I made the mistake of leasing a vehicle from a GM dealership, and the additional mistake of letting them con me into opening this Barclays card - which of course was to benefit them more than it did me... Part of the con was that I'd get all these points that could be applied to the lease payments - almost $500 worth at this point. All was well until I saw yet another lease payment charged to the card instead of the points being applied, AFTER I'd redeemed all those points, on two separate occasions. Took 3 different at least 30 minute phone calls and a transfer to a "supervisor" for anyone on their end to finally find all these rewards that show clearly on my account page on their website (I was asked a half dozen times at what website I was looking...). Apparently now the rewards are linked to some stupid damn thing or another - why they weren't linked initially no one knows...
We'll see, at this point I'll be more surprised if it works out than if it doesn't. Customer Service - PATHETIC - certainly by design. It's a maze of giving you as a customer the opportunity to just give up and let them rip you off. There's no way to send them a screenshot of their OWN WEBSITE, the "supervisor" told me they had to put me on hold to contact another department, so now it's supposedly taken care of, again - we'll see...

Never do business with them. They pass blame to everyone else but themselves. They took over gm credit card from Marcus. Barclays has done nothing but giving me the runaround. Somewhere my account got lost. Marcus tells me the sent it over. Barclays says they never received it. Then barclays told me it was sent to Resurgent and collection agency. It had a 0 balance. Barclays is now saying Marcus did it. Resurgent is saying Barclays sent it. They are worthless to work with and blame everyone else but themselves.

Updated on 12/23/2025: In addition, just tried again to solve problem with Old Navy credit card regarding rewards just kept being sent back and forward between Barclay and Old Navy. Even Barclay lousy female customer service mentioned that I redeemed all points without knowing when and where was redeemed. It was confusing since I never use any. Actually, when checking back to Old Navy was said the points are remained unused. How did she make such a statement to customer without any back up. Ridiculous!
Original Review: Barclays credit card is the worst one. How this company is allowed to be existed. Having to deal with Priceline and Old Navy which are backed up by this crooked company, simply giving a total nightmare. When they send the link to my credit card in order to solve the problem, always end up to the wrong one, either the old inactive account or spouse's account. I ask the link for Old Navy, they give Priceline. Never able to get my own account to check, pay, dispute or anything. Seems the only way just cutting their credit cards. Done!

After 6 months of repeatedly contacting Barclays many many times. Nothing has been done. They continue to say they sent a letter to BOA and that is all we can do. They are horrible to their customers. Never get a credit card from them. They will screw you over and act like it's your fault and you need to fix it. This is the worst kind of company, a scam, and it's definitely dangerous to sign a contract with them. I had a serious injury in May and had to undergo surgery, which made it difficult to make payments. However, they said they would adjust and discount the remaining balance if I paid $1,260 in three installments, so I paid it anyway. However, they sold the remaining $2,860 to another debt collection agency, and now I'm receiving a bill from them. I want to get rid of this company as soon as possible.

This has been the worst bank to deal with! My father in law is 87 with Alzheimer's and decline in health rapidly. He doesn't realize he hasn't paid his bills. I have called 4 times to try to get help and each time, the representative tells me something different, but NONE of them are willing to help, get me to a supervisor or they tell me to call a different number. I did call that second number I was given and that rep told me that they couldn't talk to me.
So we are getting nowhere and they are not helping. I am sure they are going to send him to collections but he has nothing left. He hasn't used the card in 4 years and have been just making minimum payments just to not go into default. Now that he is ill, he can't pay anymore. I wish they would work with me, but Barclays has refused to work with me. I am really upset with Barclays' services.

Sent a payoff check for a large amount. It cleared October 29th. It STILL has not been allocated to account properly and the account remains unpaid. They opened a file to search for the money and claim it can take two billing cycles to resolve despite being provided cleared check copy. Accumulating more interest? Extremely unacceptable response. Check is cleared so we cannot cancel. They just aren’t paying off the account. It should not take so long to resolve this issue with evidence provided.

Worst customer service ever. I've had a GM card for years and never had an issue. Recently I applied for another card through Barclays and was approved. Now the problems began. After being approved I am now locked out of my account including the GM card. After a week and countless calls to different people I have been told to send them copies of my DL and SS card. I told them I was not going to send that information through mail and just cancel my cards. They now say I can't cancel until I send the docs and get my account unlocked.

No issues, no returned payments, no late payments, no chargebacks, and now they require us to send a copy of our ID, SS card, and utility bill through the mail. Any other company we’ve dealt with sends a secure link for personal information and have never required us to send our social security card. Absolutely trash company and I hope they fail sooner than later.

Barclay credit cards are the worst!! They will cut your credit limit regardless of payment history and destroy your credit utilization across the board. As an example if you have 30 available credit, they take 15k and leave you 200 with your card at max. These people, in my opinion, are on some type of mission to destroy the American economy or are on some kind of socioeconomic plan to disadvantage a group of people. I had the account set up to pay the balance each month and I have used the card and paid balance off in full. I will never do business with you again and hope that people wise up and go to Citi or Chase.

No one likes to read those long rambling reviews. I will not do that, but merely state the facts related to my account at Barclays online savings. 1. My account was being hacked for several months for almost a total of almost 6 figures. 2. They do not notify or intervene when this kind of suspicious activity takes place, 3. It took over a month and many many customer service calls to get the funds reinstated to a new account. 4. Now I am unable to withdraw funds from that account - computer system won't let me. On-line reps can't assist. 5. Customer service exists at only one toll free number. There is no vehicle for making a complaint, talking to a supervisor, etc.
- The agents did not know how to address my problem.
- The people who can assist are only available M-F 8a-8p.
- Their assistance is limited to putting your issue in their computer system for others to address.
- After filing my customer service issue I am only told "it's under investigation" with absolutely no ability to update on progress.
- Even after all of require paperwork is submitted they are unable to reveal progress of their work on your account.
- Most of the customer service reps cannot assist. Estimate one in 20 service calls are connected to someone who can actually do something - which is enter your info into their system.
- Hold times are very long. Longest was 75 minutes.
- Clearly the reps want to get you off the line as soon as possible. "Call back on Monday when that department is open", "Call tomorrow in the morning when your external bank opens".
- I have no issue with off-shore representatives in general. However, these folks speak rapidly and with strong accents such that they have to be asked to stop and repeat many times.
- The customer service reps are talking through a speaker phone which does not mute backgroung noises. Therefore, during your call there is the constant loud din and audible speech from what appears to be other service calls occurring in the same un-muted space.

Eventually close your account without any notification but later tell you that they sent letters and willing to provide copies of letters from previous months but they never actually mailed them previously. Do not do business with them. Picking one star only because this site won’t let me post a review, consider it a negative 1 star.

I have always had issues with this card, from it not registering what it should for rewards to not staying connected to my account to simply trying to talk to a person. Tonight, I tried to use my Athleta brand Barclays credit card to make a purchase on the Gap site (a mix of Gap and Old Navy items). There is no expiration date on the card. I checked my statement, and there's no date there, either. However, the website was demanding an expiration date. Then I called and had to wade through several menus, none of which correctly connected with what I said.
(For example, when I got to the customer representative menu, I said "expiration date". That somehow translated into "balance".) I spoke with the representative who was perfectly pleasant, and she said to try rebooting the whole thing, which I did. Then it kept asking for the code on the back, which I kept putting in correctly. There is a fundamental error with a brand credit card if it 1) asks for information which does not exist and 2) does not register the correct information which does exist.

The customer service for this bank is extremely poor. Our ridiculous adventure included a frozen account (for no reason), three phone calls, and an hour and a half wasted. The bank, without notifying us, froze our account because we had added a separate bank from which we planned to transfer funds into our Barclays account.
We could not access the account, though we opened it two weeks ago. They asked for a hard copy of my driver's license (??) and a printed copy of the second bank's monthly statement. There was no reason to ask for those things. They then said they needed to call the bank we had added, and they called the incorrect number for the second bank's customer service. That number was eventually transferred to a third number. We were on the phone with them for an hour and 21 minutes. A ridiculous waste of time for something that should never have happened. Now, today, we have an email saying we need to "verify our information" on our account "so you can continue to access your account information." Hello?? Didn't we just do all that?

I have had my Barclays credit card for many years, Today, I noticed 3 charges from the same company that I did not recognize. The woman I spoke with about these charges was short with me. We cleared up the problem, but when I said one sentence that was not necessary, she said something along the lines of "Are we done now?" and I said. "Are we in a huge hurry," and she said yes, she had other people to assist. It really rubbed me the wrong way. But I had to tolerate what she said, without saying anything else, unless I wanted to escalate it into an argument, which I didn't do. I have other credit cards with other companies, and Barclays has the worst customer service of all of them.

I have a credit card through them for Old Navy. I do not recommend getting a credit card through them no matter how much you save by doing so at Old Navy. I have a savings account with Barclays Delaware. In the app my account number and routing number are displayed. NOWHERE does it say that Barclays Bank Delaware does not accept wire transfers. I noted and I double checked the routing number posted on the app online and sent a large wire transfer to my account. 48 hours passed and my account was not credited. I checked with the remitting bank and received a Fed Wire Confirmation that Barclays had in fact received my funds. Several very frustrating calls were conducted with Barclays clients service (in India). The first representative insisted that Barclays steamer even have an ABA number and that apparently Chase bank was “lying” to me. On the third call I got someone slightly sensible who understood that Barclays did indeed accept wire transfers (but apparently not on behalf of its US customers).
This lady then spoke to someone and came back to assure me that my funds (1.3MM) would be returned to the remitting bank (Chase). I then asked WHEN the funds took be returned. The answer? “We cannot provide a time frame”. I pointed out the idiocy of such a response. I asked - "Would it be this week?, This month?, The year?" I demanded some kind of time frame - the response - "We cannot provide a timeframe." I re-iterated that I wasn’t asking when the funds would be back in my account at Chase but only WHEN Barclays would return the funds to chase. The response was the same. I made the costly mistake of getting a Gap credit card through Barclays Bank US. Worse credit card experience ever! First off and an immediate red flag, you can only pay your bill by handing over your bank’s routing and account numbers. Secondly, I got a postcard in the mail from Gap congratulating me on my new credit card and that if I used my card in the first month of receiving it at another retail store besides Gap (that takes Mastercard) they would “reward” me with $35 in my account. It’s been 4 months and there still is no reward posted and when I call or chat with Barclay’s customer service, they act if they never heard of such an offer. One agent did say that it would “takes a while” to show up in my account. So no help there.
The Gap store won’t take your credit card payment, and being adverse to giving them my bank info, I had to cave to pay my bill. By the time I relented I was 2 days late on paying, still no “reward” posted, and immediately I receive a notice from Barclays that my account was now delinquent and that effective immediately my credit limit of $6300 is reduced to $350 and dinged my excellent credit rating. After having a card for 13 years without 1 late or missed payment, I built a limit of $20160. Barclays with no warning lowered my limit to $5160 because they said I hadn’t used it enough over the last year, which lowered my credit score from 830 to 816. As long as I had a big balance and making monthly payments everything was great, but as soon as I got the card paid off, and wasn’t having to use it so much, I was no longer a valued customer. Although the lowered my limit, they never hesitated to take their annual fee.

Extremely Disappointed with This Bank. This has been the worst banking experience I’ve ever had. I’ve reported multiple suspicious charges on my account, and instead of investigating properly or crediting me back, the bank claimed that I made the purchases myself. This is despite the fact that I canceled my cards and spoke to five different fraud specialists—none of whom were helpful or took meaningful action. I’m now being told I still have to pay for charges I did not authorize. The level of incompetence and lack of accountability is astounding. Dealing with this bank has been a nightmare, and I genuinely don’t understand how they’re in business.

I called on the day of maturity to see if they could give me a Tracking number for my check being sent out to me. They told me that they sent it out to me by regular mail. That was hard for me to believe being I invest in CD's with a number of banks. Those that send me checks at Maturity usually send them to me 2nd day with signature required. Barclays told me it should reach me in 7-10 days. That means I could lose interested in that time on that money and I am not happy about it yet alone who in their right mind would send a jumbo CD check in regular mail these days?
The other thing is they locked me out of my account online. As of today I have no idea what the check amount will be for being I can't access my account online. When I tried all it says is that I don't have a account with that bank. Unreal. When I called about it I mentioned to them that I didn't even receive a email telling me that my CD Matured and that they sent a check out to me and how so I told them to send me a email to confirm they did this.
They sent me a email saying just that my account was closed. Here it is: "Dear **, Your Barclays Online Certificate of Deposit account ending in 6639 has been closed. This bank is the worst I have dealt with in my life. I made a modification on the automatic payment in the month of February 2025 to increase the monthly payment. However, Barclay decided to call it a cancellation of payment rather than a modification. When doing so, it caused us to have a late payment. The sad part is that I have been enrolled in automatic payment since Aug. of 2023. When I called the bank to inform them of the glitch in the system in which asked why the payment wasn't taken out their replied was that it was a cancellation. This was not accurate and I pointed out that all I did was increase the amount funds as their payment. I decided to pay them more money and it caused a problem.
After the incident report, the bank reversed the late fee charge and informed me that I could go ahead and make the payment for the month of February. I paid them for the month of February and I was ready for the month of March to come around. In the month of March, my minimum payment tripled because they wanted a payment for February, March, and the late fee. It doesn't make sense when I was no longer past due in my account. My account was current and no longer late. They should not have the right to take so much money out of my account. They are what I call thieves. However, the questions they were asking when we telephoned to update are the kind that don't need to be asked to be in compliance. In fact, according to the "Federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act" they are not to discriminate based on age or whether "all or part of the applicant's income derives from any public assistance program." I wonder whether they are violating the FECOA, because to update the info per Patriot Act requirement, they said that online banking is not required, but that a telephone update would suffice.
Spent well over 25 minutes on the phone only to find out that the account was still blocked and that without going online to establish an online account, then documents would have to be mailed or faxed? How does that make any sense??? So answering some dumb-cluck questions online is now supposed to be more secure than talking with an agent--just to confirm that personal information hasn't changed in the previous year??? So why do they insist that customers now have online accounts? Who in their warped minds thinks its a good idea to use a system vulnerable to hacking??? Not only did they come back and garnish my husband's wages, they hired a collection agency and they just stole $2000.00 out of my bank account again. They have been paid by the bankruptcy or written off. Paid for by my husband's check for 2 years and then we paid them again. What a bunch of thieves. I would NOT recommend this company at all. I cannot get a representative in the US to help me, I have even written to the "office of the President" as I was advised to, only to get another denial letter with the exact verbiage as the first. I upgraded my Barclays Jet Blue credit card last April. Each month since then they have credited my payment (always paid in full) to the old card. Then they began to harass me with emails, phone calls, and text messages. Each month I have spent about 45 minutes on the phone with them to reverse late fees and interest, and to have the payment credited to the new account. I went through the same lengthy process four days ago, again spending 45 minutes on the phone, and was assured this would never happen again. Starting yesterday, I began receiving notices telling me that my account is past due. They never credited the proper account. And over 140,000 Jet Blue points have disappeared from my account! I will have to close the account to end this endless frustration and possible fraud with the disappearance of my Jet Blue points. I would not recommend doing business with this Bank under any circumstances.

Then approximately 16 months ago BR/Gap Inc. turned over all their credit card processing/billing/account management to Barclays. I called Barclays and updated my new address.
I also requested a replacement card for my lost card. I received the card in the mail. I called the number on the back of the card/Followed the prompts/ answered the security questions and got auto verbal conf my card was activated. And was ready to use anywhere it’s accepted… 100% of every time I’ve tried to use it since then it is declined. Every time I’ve called Barclays explaining it was declined.
Their answer is exactly the same. Because of address change, we will need proof you are the cardholder….now get this!! “To protect my identity, Barclays has only one option/procedure for cardholders to use to prove their/my identity… Now Get This…! Their policy procedure for protecting my identity is to force me to Mail make copy of the front and back of my Social Security card and driver's license and mail it to a P.O. Box!!! If someone literally had stolen my wallet, Barclays has given them a step-by-step guide on how to fraudulently use my Banana Republic credit card… My driver's license photo is meaningless W/O my face to match to photo!!!! Which makes My SS card meaningless! Mailing those two most important ID-sensitive forms puts my identity completely at risk/ vulnerable to being intercepted by and person, honest or not.
And even if Barclays received the information from me, actually got it to the right people, it not only doesn’t prove anything, they should assume it was sent by whoever they are convinced stole my wallet and card… Even though I never reported my wallet or card stolen, not once! I have had a Barclays Mastercard for about 6 years now. For the last year, I have been fortunate enough to pay off my card charges (an average of $500-$900) each month, negating any interest charges. My FICO is 824. I just received a letter from Barclays stating that because I do not use my credit limit of around $20K, they are lowering it to $5K. Ridiculous and unacceptable. I am penalized (a lower limit could negatively impact my credit rating) for being responsible. I contacted them, and they want me to reapply to reinstate the higher limit. I had a credit card with this nefarious company for over 6.5 years; they suddenly reduced my credit limit, OVERNIGHT! I had been on their site the day before paying my bill. I only found out by going to Barclays online today to verify payment that they had pulled this stunt. I never received email/phone/mail notice. When I called to inquire, they said that due to my lack of use, I could only get my credit line back to its original limit if I applied. I was immediately declined. No legitimate reason given; the declination stated that "there has been a recent credit line change on this account".
Needless to say, I immediately closed the account. By lowering my credit limit, they have also lowered my credit score, which I have worked so hard to maintain in the 800's. No one should be penalized for paying their bills on time or be told how and at what volume to use their credit. Very poor customer service. I will never recommend this lender or its dubious practices. They should be ashamed. I would score them a ZERO if I could....Reported to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Why not use an interest free $9,000, 12 month transfer from my $25,000 with no current balance....Barclays Credit card to be smart. WRONG MOVE! Why...after using the "convenient" check provided directly from Barclays, I got a call from the Roofer 2 weeks later. The Check was denied! The roofer was NOT happy and neither was I. Called Barclays and after penetrating the "convenient" automated system taking 35 minutes, I got a rep on the line..spent 10 minutes trying to understand the dialect and then found out I needed another department, was transferred there. After another 10 minutes, same securing info for clearance, was told I needed to speak to SECURITY. Another Transfer. 10 ,more minutes for security clearance and finally told there was NO REASON for that check to not have cleared.
Received a confirmation number and told they would TRY to resolve the issue within a week to 10 days! This did NOT happen! So REPEATED the 3 stage process again after the 2 weeks but This time, asked for a manager to see if I could get a reason and resolution. After a 15 minute hold....RAH came on the line. Same 10 minute discussion, no reason given for failed clearance of the Check and NO total assurance that the issue would be 100% resolved by the manager and a refusal to send a note I could offer to explain the situation to the ROOFER!
I was told to keep checking with my Credit Union to see if the transfer was made over the next week or 10 days. I called Wells Fargo, transferred funds from there to my credit union within ONE HOUR! Oh...Yes..the funds did FINALLY transfer from Barclays that following week. Well we rent and only our electric is in our names and it's only in my name so at first I sent that. Well two weeks go by and I don't hear anything so I call them. This is actually what I hate the most because every time I tried to send them what they asked for I would wait and hear nothing! They should be communicating with you a lot better. You have to call every time just to find out something was wrong and you have been wasting your time waiting.
Back on track, they said that wouldn't work they needed something in his name as well so I sent the at&t bill since that is in his name. Nope! That won't work either. So they tell me I need a bank statement well our address was not our current address with our bank since we rent and move frequently. It was my parents' so it would take a whole month after I change it to get a statement back. So they told me I could ask for a bank verification letter so I said okay. I went to the bank, got the letter and sent it in. Only to call bank and find out now they are saying that won't work! They need a bank statement so I indeed have to wait even longer..

I do not recommend using this institution for your credit card. I specifically and only signed up for it because I fly Breeze Airways frequently for business. To simplify, I put all travel expenses on the same card. I recently had a poor experience with Dollar Car Rentals where I incurred a predatory charge and did a dispute - the only dispute I have done in 2 years.
Barclays claimed I would have to have the random clerk who checked me out at the car rental sign a letter saying they did not do their job in explaining Dollar's toll policies to me, which they completely neglected to do. This was in PA and I am from FL. Clearly, this is an impossible task, and I've now see that Barclays does not protect the interests of its clients. After spending significant sums using their card and planning on getting an authorized user, I've basically banned using it. If they aren't going to look out for predatory practices of other businesses and protect their clients, I have no use for them.

The policy wasn’t supposed to go into effect later in the next month. So, if effect there was no policy. Progressive refused to refund the money. So, I called Barclay card services and filed a dispute charge.
The agent at Barclay credit card dispute services said that they should not have charged the card the day after I cancelled the insurance policy. So a dispute was entered. This happened at the first of July and I did not see a temporary credit added to the account. I called them and they said they do not offer temporary credits. WHAT? Also, your rewards are never accessible... They make it really hard for you to earn $1 after spending $3k. Just stick to other banks with greater cash back. I don't recommend this bank at all. They make you pay and hold you responsible for charges you didn't even authorize when someone steals your card. If I were you, I'd stay away from this private bank; it's not worth your time or money.
I'm on my way to report this to the Better Business Bureau. It is a waste of time dealing with them since they don't even credit your account when bad things happen to you. They make you responsible for fraud and suspicious activity and want you to deal with the merchant yourself when it's supposed to be their job. Useless customer service. I have never had a problem with other banks and I have a perfect 800 credit score. Even to cancel your account, they make it really hard. This is my first time ever complaining about a bank, and it is because this card and bank don't do what they promise. No rewards allowed and no help with a stolen card. May 18, 2024. DO NOT TRUST BARCLAYS CREDIT CARDS. I can see now that 10 years ago before I started doing business with BarclayCardbank.us I should have read Trustpilot reviews. When their rating is a 1 you don’t want to trust them!! I have been doing business with them 10 years now and I want to state that up until today I have NEVER: been late, over my credit line (or even close), asked for a cash advance, or done even a balance transfer!! I pay my bills on time. I had major surgery on my spine/neck in November and was off work for almost 3 months. Between my loss of income after 1 month, large medical bills, and my wife having to care for me, we had financial difficulties. We ended up having to use some of our credit cards just to get by. NOT ONCE did we fail to pay our payments but our balances did go up. We went from 21% debt ratio to almost 30%.
When Barclays saw that, and my score declining, they reacted by dropping my credit line down to within a few hundred dollars of my balances. Within 2 weeks 2 of the bureaus dropped our score even further, showing we were using 90% of our credit lines - DUE TO THEIR ACTIONS! It’s good t know that you can have a stellar record of payment for years and they don’t care. I have proof of the thousands of doctor bills we incurred, and my credit report proves we never missed a single payment to Barclays Card or anyone else furling the last 6 months, or for the last 10 years!!!
However, Barclays could care less! They took action that made our situation even worse and they know it. I tried talking to the people at the Bank but it was useless. Their only reply “we will review your accounts in 6 to 12 months to see if your situation improves." In talking with a Credit Attorney he told us it could take up to TWO YEARS to get all of this corrected not just a few months. He was surprised that we had the payment record we have across ALL our creditors, and Barclays ignored our records. Never trust a Bank - especially Barclays!! Date of experience: May 01, 2024. I used the card today and I went online to schedule a payment on the amount to keep it at zero. Barclays dropped my limit by 4,000. No notice, no letter, nothing. I even double checked my statement. When I called I was told they decided to drop it last week due to an increase in my credit usage (my husband added me as a user in a card he has a balance on to get airline lounge access…I told them that is why it went up). I literally didn’t owe them any money…. For months I have used it and paid it off. I also said I didn’t receive any notice. They said, "Oh we just did it…. 8 days ago." Huh? Never in my life.
I have had a Citi and a Chase card for over 20 years. I never have had a company just arbitrarily drop the credit line. My credit score dropped by 10 points when my husband added me. 10 points. My score is north of 700 even with the drop. I should add I made a 2k payment in March and they put a hold on it for 3 weeks. Well over the time to clear the bank. I had to call after 2 weeks and then it still took 5 additional days to release. For no reason. No NSF payments, nothing. I should have known then it was fishy but I let it go. I was on vacation and was not even home to retrieve the items. Additionally, I was in a remote location where service was interrupted. When I noticed that my account was hacked through various text messages from Walmart, I immediately called Jetblue and claimed the orders as fraud. They took the charges off my credit card and said they would be opening an investigation. Two billing cycles later, one of the charges appeared back onto my credit card for $380. It took a week of calling Jetblue and calling Walmart to have the matter investigated.
Each time I spoke with a customer rep from Barclay's, they told me something different each time - "You can't call the fraud department", "You can call the fraud department", "You can't have it reinvestigated", "We're opening a reinvestigation". It was back and forth and you can tell that the reps were reading off scripts. I had better customer service from Walmart when I opened an investigation on their end as well. Finally, after 5 separate calls to different departments, I was pushed through to a senior account representative named Richard.
Richard was the first person I had spoken to who seemed genuine in helping me. He looked into the matter and verified the information I was able to provide based on the fraudulent transaction. He resolved my issue within an hour. I have now set up alerts for every transaction and a limit for the card as I do not feel Barclay's protects their customers when it comes to fraudulent use. I contacted their "Customer No Service" department, got a very nice and polite reps each time who listened and understood the issue BUT WERE UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. They wanted me to mail a letter with all the details and receipts to a PO Box in Delaware so it could be reviewed. I did. I got a temporary relief on the disputed amounts.
Three weeks later I get a form letter asking me to send them WHAT I SENT THEM previously! A short time later they denied my credit, siding with the merchant. They have ZERO Customer Service Support that are authorised to DO ANYTHING! My total "loss" was LESS THAN $4 plus another dollar+ in postage. IT IS NOT THE DOLLARS. It's the principle of the act which shows ZERO respect for their cardholders. They are completely MERCHANT focused. If you insist on keeping this card I would recommended NEVER putting any big purchase on it because the chances are "slim or none" that you will ever win a dispute. I have now cut down my use of this Jet Blue Master Card from Barclay's from $1-2,000 per month to zero. It will be discarded. STAY AWAY FROM THESE FRAUDS!

As of Oct. 24, '23 Barclays has 928 reviews and 1,149 ratings and gets 1 1/2 stars on Consumeraffairs.com. My experience is similar to many other reviews here. Offers Barclays doesn't honor, deception, lies and stalling is the norm. I do not understand how this company remains in business and avoids legal prosecution. I have tons of detail but here are the highlights. My wife and I each have our own Barclays card to accumulate airline miles. She received Barclays offer to spend a certain amount on the card over a three month period and receive additional points/miles for doing so. They did not make that offer to me. Is that legal or even important? I'll show why in a bit.
We started using only her card to reach the monthly award spending amount when her card started to be rejected. It took a while but discovered the limit on her card was lower than the amount needed to be reached. We called and they raised the limit on her card but this took 14 days during which no purchases could be made causing us not to be able to meet the requirements in month one of the three month offer. After 6 calls with agents/mgrs, I was told it was their mistake and they would reset the system to resolve the matter and we should continue to use the card to satisfy the requirements for the next 2 months. I was an idiot to fall for that.
We continued to spend over the next 2 months to double and triple what was required and expected the points/miles to be posted to the account. To get to the point, I have spoken 15 times to 15 different agents/managers about when and where are the points and today they finally tell me what I should have known. They claim we did not qualify since we did not meet the requirement for the first month. This is in spite of the fact I documented 2 conversations when I was told we would get the award.
It's obvious their aim was to get us to spend money using their card with no intent of fulfilling the offer. Why would they make an offer to spend a certain amount to a cardholder whose card could not reach the amount and not make the offer to someone (me) who had a card that could satisfy the requirement? Why would they say they had fixed the problem and tell us to continue to spend on the card when they had no intention of fulfilling their offer?
The amount of times Barclays moved the goal posts (changed their story or reasoning) is staggering and would take up much more space than I sure anyone wants to read. They even had the audacity to say we would be put on a list and they would contact us about future offers of this type!!!! Folks, these guys really think we're stupid. Considering the number of people who still give Barclays business, I'm sure they feel like they can get away with anything.

Who would’ve thought they would outsource customer call center. Anyway, I wasn’t able to get my credit card number over the phone and because of that I was still locked out of my account. Instead of Barclay's sending me statements in the mail or contacting me via phone to pay off the little amount I had, they sent it over to a debt collection. Do not, I mean do NOT sign up for this credit card. It has been nothing but hassle and **.

I had opened my Old Navy Credit Card in like I believe 1/2018 - they were with Synchrony Bank at the time. Then Old Navy/Gap Family of Stores - switched banks to Barclays I believe starting in May of 2022 - do not think my particular card transitioned until a few months after that like Aug/Sept of 2022 a little over a year ago? The transition was "Fairly" seamless. Nothing different from any of the other 6 credit cards I had, nothing different other than "a little angry" that Old Navy opted to switch their credit card from "Visa" to "MasterCard" with Barclays and I could no longer use it at Costco?
Then the "Nightmare" began a few months ago? I made several online purchases - within a short span - different retailers/vendors - nothing out of the ordinary behavior-wise for me. Charges kept "getting denied" and Not going THROUGH which I had to switch to another form of payment? Called their customer service line - ONE EXCUSE/LIE of a story after another - one of my personal faves was my "address" was not reported correctly by Synchrony and my "apartment number" needed to come before the street number and actual address because that is how Barclays in the UK expects it to be? Things died down, I was able to make online purchases again for about a month or two.
Then bam - same thing all over again - with multiple "denials" of authorizations - then will I log into card - come to see that multiple charges had in fact gone through? As in 6 - 8 auths from the same merchant? I have STELLAR credit and have for SEVERAL years - as in score WAY above 800, a "so-so" limit on this card (one of my lowest limit cards I have?)- have always paid balance on time, in full - but have NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH HORRIFIC PROBLEMS TRYING TO MAKE PURCHASES WITH ANY OF MY OTHER CARDS?
I was attempting to take advantage of a "rewards" promo I had received for the Month of OCT - but it was becoming so insanely difficult - I called and said - after this month - I will NEVER use this card for ONLINE purchases ever again?! I found this site, then became HORRIFIED at some people's stories and PRAYED that my situation WILL NOT GET WORSE?

My first (and thankfully last) experience with Barclays Delaware Bank was in relation to an application for an American Airlines "Aviator" card. Due to all my credit reports being locked (my bad, I forgot), the online application immediately failed. Contacting Barclays to see what could be done, I ultimately talked with eight so-called "customer service" individuals. The incompetence of all but one of those resulted in receiving totally incorrect information, receiving several "Huh?'s" and finally a reasonably intelligent staff member. It seems (I think) that the Barclay "policy" regarding a failed (declined) application requires a waiting period of 90 days before submitting an application again. Hard to understand such an incongruous policy...since the decline had nothing to do with my credit status or history (800+ scores). And they offered (have) no means of simply resubmitting the application once the credit reports are unlocked.
In dealing with multiple credit-card companies (and issuing banks), including American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Bank of America, Chase Bank, Citi Bank, Goldman-Sachs, I have absolutely never experienced such total incompetence and illogical "policies" before. Avoid Barclays at all cost! There are way better options out there!

I am very dissatisfied with Barclays of Delaware credit card. As a consumer and journalist take my advice and do not open any account with them since if your card or other authorized user’s card gets lost, stolen or cloned card while traveling which is the purpose of the card, you probably will never see a penny back from fraudulent charges, even if reported on time. The company does not care if it violates the federal Fair Credit Billing Act! I only opened a credit card account with them several years ago since they used to fly from Fort Lauderdale to Mexico City and I would use JetBlue on a regular basis so at first it was a good deal.
As time passed, they no longer flew that route but I maintained the account since there was no foreign transaction fee and I could help my daughter as an authorized user get an extra card when she was going to be in Mexico. As the major account holder of their credit card, a Barclays JetBlue World MasterCard, my daughter had an additional card which was either lost, stolen, or cloned, in Mexico City almost two years ago and Barclays never investigated my complaint properly as per my claims. The additional card I gave my daughter was reported as lost, stolen or cloned as soon as I was alarmed by my computer of fraudulent activity the morning of Sept 3, 2021, the same day I saw on my account online huge “temporary transactions” on my daughter’s additional card.
During my initial call, Barclays agreed to cancel her card and not charge for the unauthorized charges, however several months later, Barclays reinstated them which were very many that totaled over US $3000. I launched an official complaint to the CFPB in May, 2023, understanding that they expect companies to provide complete, and accurate responses to consumer complaints, and responses tailored to the issues described in each consumer’s complaint, yet in this original complaint against Barclays JetBlue World MasterCard being either lost, stolen, or cloned, Barclays response for their investigation they allegedly made, was in itself fraudulent, proven by and totally invented by their second CFPB response dated June 2, 2023, which is now a whole new invented and contradictory story.
Throughout Barclays FRAUD DEPARTMENT investigation, the company failed to properly manage, respond correctly nor in a timely fashion, to my credit card dispute and fraud claim, as per federal law, and continued to post their debt collection on my online credit card account. In their new letter dated June 2, 2023, they state that on Feb 7, 2023, I was advised to provide a “full police report to continue the fraud claim.” Let it be known that my daughter does not live in Mexico City, where the fraud took place and at first when she attempted to make a police report, the police said they were extremely backlogged due to Covid-19 and that the report would take a very long time. Over a year later the police informed her that she had to return to Mexico City to ratify the report in order to get a full copy, which in order for us to complete, would have cost more in time and money than the amount of the unauthorized fraudulent activity.
Early on the morning of Sept 3, 2021, I reported to Barclays by phone that these charges could NOT have been made by my daughter and also stated that the last time she said she used her card was at a restaurant called KYU, where they hang up women’s purses. It was not until later that same day she noticed her card was missing from her purse, and so she spoke to the manager of KYU who apologized profusely, including returning the money charged for her dinner there late the night before.
When I reported the fraudulent activity on Sept. 3 to Barclays Fraud Department, I immediately had her card cancelled, thus I told her not to worry. Since I reported the unauthorized activity in a timely fashion the same day from the US while the transactions were still marked “temporary”” and cancelled her card, I was told by Barclays that the charges would be taken off. I understand that according to the Fair Credit Billing Act, at most I would be liable for is US $50. Upon receiving Barclays' latest response to the alleged fraud they made of their Fraud investigation, it states for questions to call Nevin, the Office of the President of Barclays, who I have been reaching out to by phone over a dozen times, however they never respond to my phone calls.
In the meanwhile we sent Barclays our own investigation which showed the largest fraudulent charges were from a company that receives small merchant charges called Sr. Pago, who finally emailed her the invoices, that clearly demonstrate that her signature was obviously falsified in many different fashions at many different places. I asked Barclays to even investigate if these are legitimate places and saw myself that many were closed the hours that Barclays and the invoices state her card was used. After having faxed Barclays all the paperwork of over 40 pages, we included copies of those invoices with her fake signature along with a copy of her US passport to show her real signature. At a later date when her passport expired, Barclays continued on insisting that we send them a copy of her new passport which we did for proof of her same real signature. Barclays just kept leading us on about their alleged continual investigation.
Apart from this Barclays sent numerous correspondences to my daughter using my card’s number which should have been addressed to me, the principal account holder. Some letters dated the same day were contradictory saying I or she was responsible for paying the debt and others that I or she was not responsible! I never open my daughter’s mail because it is against the US postal law and she was not back at our address in the US for some months to even read her postal mail. It is also totally unlawful that Barclays would provide the principal card holder’s last card digits in official letters addressed to my daughter, instead of to me the principal card holder.
Barclay has consistently made many errors of this sort since I reported the fraudulent activity on my daughter’s card including the sum of money being posted as temporary transactions and then when I reported the fraud they took them off and two months later returned an erroneous sum of the fraudulent purchases on my next statement. The total amount which I claimed fraudulent was $3,391.47 of which I continue to pay the minimum amount plus interest so as to not affect my very good credit rating. I expect Barclays to return this sum plus the interest accrued, as I understand that according to law, I phoned them immediately upon noticing the unauthorized transactions in a timely fashion.
I have since reported Barclays to the FDIC and the BBB and would like to end this nightmare so I do not have to proceed with a legal case nor another complaint with the State of Delaware Office of the State Bank Commissioner. So once again I phoned the Fraud Department last week to ask if they would please reopen the case and consider studying the falsified signatures. All they responded now is that my complaint was noted and they may answer me in another 30 days.
With all this it’s hard to fathom that Barclays keeps raising my credit limit due to my high credit scores and keeps sending me promotional materials non-stop. Finally avoid all nightmares and do not get a Barclays Credit Card as they are the worst bank should you have any claims. I still hope the CFPB or the State of Delaware Office of the State Bank Commissioner. Can take whatever action necessary to implement the federal Fair Credit Billing Act on my behalf. Sincerely, principal card holder.

Called customer service (1st time), and I was informed I needed to send a copy of my bank statement to confirm my funding account. OK. Sent. I waited another 6 business days for the account verification, only to get another email saying my account was suspended (again). Called customer service (2nd time) to figure out what is going on, and she said and I quote, "they have decided to end their financial relationship with you". I was shocked. What does that even mean? How do you end a financial relationship that hasn't even started? I immediately asked why I have not received a formal letter and what is to happen to all my personal information that I submitted. This is not good service, Amex much better so is Chase as limit is 8 times what this barclays has it at. This is a credit card with poor service, very difficult even to make a payment especially since I have automated pay in full monthly. Had to cancel auto pay to make payment then reinitialize. Don't use them, their customer service is not much better.

After a repeating glitch that was occurring on the Barclays Bank website, we shared our experience via the secure email system. Our messages were totally clean without any unacceptable language. We merely expressed that the error was repeating and their claim to have their corporate office resolve the issue was never supported with any further communication to us. The result: they blocked our account from sending any emails. Sending email correspondence to the only address available on the website resulted in no responses. Do NOT entrust your funds with this bank. Those reviews stating that this bank has the "worst customer service" are entirely valid.

Recently I paid the monthly full balance on my M&M card with Barclays Bank. The same day I also intended to pay Chase, both thru my Delta Community Credit Card BillPay service. But I made the mistake and paid the amount due Chase to Barclays. At that point not only did I have a zero balance with Barclays (having paid the full balance), but the money I accidentally paid to Barclays instead of Chase gave me a credit balance of about $900. When I realized what I did, I paid Chase separately, and called Barclays and asked them to return the credit balance I accidentally paid them. They said I would have to call my bank (Delta Community Credit Union). I did, and they initiated reversing the payment. Within 24 hours I had the funds back.
Tonight when reviewing all of my banking transactions, I noticed a $29 returned payment fee from Barclays. They charged me to return a credit balance thru the ACH process they wanted me to use thru my bank. I called, explained what happened, and asked them to refund the $29. The agent - located overseas because I could barely understand her - refused to return it. I was clear - either refund the money or close the account. They accepted closing my account and did so right away. Unbelievable. I spent roughly $25K each year, never carried a balance, never was late, and referred them to friends who travel. Wow... They don't give a darn about customers, and the idiots they hire overseas have zero authority to fix a foolish policy on their part. My experience over the years is that when a company becomes arrogant like this, they are on the decline and eventually lose market share, operate at a loss, and are either sold or closed down.

By far the worse experience I have ever had with a credit card company. So many issues and no customer service. No help whatsoever. I ordered two gift cards and only received one. This is not even a big amount. It was only $25. I ordered them in October. It is now March and still nothing. I emailed. No answer. I called in December and they said they will open an investigation. Now it is March and still haven't heard anything. I call and first he had they issued the points back and then he said the gift card was redeemed. I asked for the manager and she said they issued the points back but they are not in my account. She tells him to call Carnival and see if they can fix it. Carnival has nothing to do with this issue, I spent 40 minutes on this one call just for you to pass me over to carnival. I closed my account and you can keep the damn points. I RATHER USE A CREDIT CARD COMPANY THAT VALUES THEIR COMPANIES.

I had a credit card from Barclays for 3 years. When I opened the card it was a Visa, but shortly after it became a MasterCard. Every month I get a written statement and on the last page it tells me how many points I’m going to get if I use it at restaurants, or grocery store, etc. I have through all my papers and wanted to know many points I have accrued as during the time I had the card I have paid at least 20k. My account is in good standing and actually paid off. I have wanted to call them for a long time just when you call the back of the customer number in the back of the card it ask to call regular business hours which is M-F limited hours. For a credit card, you have to be kidding me.
So today is Monday and I happen to have the day off due to vacation. Therefore, I was able to call within the limited hours. The customer service is the worst. I had a hard time understanding the agent. Customer service is outsource obviously to another country. I was literally 1 1/2 hours due to agent lacking even basic knowledge and having to put me on long hold for every question. According to the agent, I didn’t accrued any regards or points because my card does not do so, even if I get a monthly statement from them stating different. They offer no explanation or solution.
After spending 20k under false pretense, it’s so frustrating. I explained that they were falsely advertising and using unethical practices. However, they really don’t care. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and again I get a statement informing of what points I should be getting. Based in their advertisement I should have over 40,000 points and yet they tell me none. I have always paid on time and have an excellent credit score and history. Barclays is the worst bank I have ever encountered. There is much better choices out there. Learn from what happened to me and take your business to a credit card that actually has customer service and provides their points as advertised.

I received a letter in the mail reporting if I did not use my credit card, the account will be closed. I called immediately upon receiving the letter. I shared with the lady that I have been traveling and just received the letter. She shared there will be no problem with the card as long as I use it that day on something. Took my wife and friends to Pappadeux that day and had a wonderful meal. Paid with that card. No problem. Card was good. The next day I go to use the card and have been informed it has been closed due to inactivity. Unbelievable/horrible credit service (right hand no clue to the left hand). More hassle and now have to wait until Monday to talk to the credit team. Account is not closed for missed payment. Account is closed for inactivity... Seriously? Credit Team ---either make better notes on your computer for the next agent...or get training on how not to lie to a card holder. Joe M.

When I went over my limit, they sent me a letter requesting that I pay the account down below my limit within 10 days (before my due date). When I didn’t, they raised my interest rate from 8% to 30%. Talked to someone, who lowered it back down. However, their systems kept automatically raising it back up. Called again, where they lowered the interest rate again. However, I was told that their systems were automatically going to keep raising my rate back up. Consequently, to not have to deal with that I paid my account down through a debt management program to get my interest rate back down. Now, even 11 years later, they’re still holding it against me. Will not give me a card even though I paid off the full amount. Be warned that if you do something like this, your credit is ruined forever with this bank.

First, the customer service is outsourced to India (2 calls, 2 different customer service people, both heavy Indian accents and nearly impossible to understand). First they told me to call Old Navy regarding a missing reward gift card (issued by Barclay). I called and Old Navy thought I was nuts. Then called back, different person said they would open a claim but to call back in 10 business days to find out the status of my claim. Seriously? I have to call back regarding my claim? You can't email or call me? Horrible customer service. Especially after the first person sent me on a wild goose chase and the second one told me I have to call back.
How about you call me or email me regarding the results of the claim. Why do I have to keep calling your email chain and sitting on hold for extended time. Doesn't offer great rates so no need to keep using this card; I have plenty others. I liked the rewards but if this is the grief I get when they ** up...no thanks. Back to USAA it is. I get cash rewards with them, better rate and WAY better customer service (including someone I can actually understand on the phone).

HAD a credit card with Barclays. Closed it at the end of December due to fraud and totally unable to get Barclays to do anything about it. I paid the card off. My online log in shows the card as "Account Closed". So imagine my surprise to log in today, just to double check, and, you guessed it, a charge has been placed on my account from February 5th. TWO MONTHS after Barclays told me in an email the account was closed, NO MORE CHARGES WOULD BE ALLOWED, and MY webpage shows "Account Closed". How does a charge get placed on a credit card that has been closed for TWO MONTHS!!??? Thinking about opening an account with these people!!!! Don't...

Worst customer service in the world! I lost my card and put it on hold on 8/6/22, it's 12/16/22 and I'm still dealing with the charges made to my account after I reported the card stolen. I've sent numerous messages detailing the credits needed, and spent hours on the phone. I was even told that the balance on the account was zero and then I got an email the next month saying my account was overdue. In addition I paid for some of the fraudulent charges when my automatic payment was made in August and I'm not getting the money back for those. Since it's a small amount I'm now giving up. I've been told today that they're crediting my account for the balance due in the next few days. We'll see if that actually happens.....

I just recently made a transfer to another bank that is paying a higher interest rate. Since things have gotten so expensive my partner and I are attempting to maximize our earnings safely (FDIC insured). Barclays put a block on my accounts two days ago and will not allow me to transfer funds to this new bank until they get a bank statement from this new bank. Oddly enough my partner just a week prior transferred a majority of his life savings to this new bank (which he banked with 8 years ago so it's legit). My partner is co-owner of the account that is being blocked, so why did he not need to provide a bank statement to move his funds.
Barclays knows exactly what is going on and they are losing deposits, so they are fraudulently putting a hold on my funds. Now they are telling me I have to wait up to 48 hours to speak to a manager so they can release funds. Wow, really....how did we get here? Where are the so called politicians that are looking out for our interests.

Probably one of the absolute worst credit card experiences I've encountered (and I worked for one of the top card issuers in the country for 15 years!). I applied for the Barclay's American AAdvantage Business Card online. I was told I'd hear something back in 10 business days. After 10 days, I called to inquire, and after being on hold for nearly 2 HOURS just to speak with someone, I was told they were "backed up" and advised to just wait.
I waited another week and the website status still said "processing", so I called again. I finally reached someone in the credit department who told me their department approved the credit and it was sent to Card Services to finalize. I was even advised the credit limit that they suggested I be approved for. I was then transferred to Card Services to speak with someone to try and expedite getting my new card, and again was on hold for over 90 minutes with no one answering. Today, almost 30 days after I applied, I log on to the site and see that I was rejected. No call. No email, and so far, no letter.
I have very strong credit (830s), low debt to income, and no adverse credit history for myself or my business. In retrospect, I feel like I dodged a bullet. If reaching someone takes hours, what would it be like if I had an issue later. 30 days to review an application is ridiculous. Barclays clearly is understaffed and out of touch with the needs of today's consumers. I simply wanted to get a new card for my business with airline perks. The hoops I needed to jump through to even talk to someone was ridiculous, and I'll be flying to another issuer who knows how to better take care of their customers. Stay far away is my advice, no matter how good the promotion seems to be.

Someone or an organization needs to do something about this UK bank mistreatment of its USA customers, horrible customer service, and overall poor mishandling of funds. I was trying to do a balance transfer. It took 3 tries as they had inaccuracies within their departments. I had to call to find out what was holding up the balance transfer, even though I'd spoken to their security team and confirmed the transfer within a 24hr period to be posted, it still wasn't posted. I've decided to not go ahead as I don't use the Gap/Barclay card, they seem very disorganized with extreme rudeness, I will not be using this card after reading everyone's reviews here, and look forward Barclay cancelling my card, this is really poor service, and I take this as a sign from the universe to not move forward with the balance transfer, as this bank cannot be trusted. Thank you God - Just a disgrace to the banking industry.

I've used Barclay card to finance a few Apple products over the last several years. The zero interest financing was appealing and I paid it off each time, long before the due date. I didn't encounter trouble until 2021 when Apple started auto charging random small purchases to my card, monthly, which, unbeknownst to me, added compounding interest. Eventually this showed up as a late payment. While I thought my account had been paid off for over one year, these $3/mo charges ended up reducing my credit score by 100 points! I appealed to Barclay in writing and they refused to correct the credit bureau report. They are NOT to be trusted.

We never asked for the Barclays AARP Credit Card. It has been nothing but trouble. Started out by sending us emails about not being late with our payment; which has never happened. We then get an email stating our payment was late when all along it was in their office. The worst event was their taking two payments for one month from our bank and when we notified them of their mistake they charged us a $29.00 fee for the transaction! We still get emails about not being late with our payment. We have excellent credit and have never been late with any payment whatsoever. We had enough of this nonsense and closed out this card. One advice- do not use this card!

This company are crooks. I made a 0% balance transfer in which they charged me a 3% fee. I didn’t notice they were charging me interest on my balance transfer until a couple months later. When I questioned it they told me the offer I took was for the same interest rate as my everyday purchased. I said really?! Then why did you charge me a 3% fee??? They would not credit back the fee or interest charges until I showed proof of the offer. Well how was I going to do that when they are the ones who get the cancelled checks?!? Very convenient. They are crooks. So I paid off the card and closed my account. Total crooks this company is. I don’t recommend Barclay or any of its officiates.

“I have had a Barclays Mastercard for many years and have spent $10’s of thousands of dollars on it and I was always- always a good paying client. I have never made a dispute once about a payment until recently. I dealt with a very dishonest, manipulative website company to help me with a website for an e-commerce business I was opening. Long story short, the web company was very dishonest with me and forcefully persuaded me into buying in unnecessary add ons. I was well within the time frame to ask for a return as the warranty clearly reads before website is finished I can get full refund. My website was never completed! Well the web company keeps lying to Barclays and as much I have communicated and show evidence, Barclaycard sides with the web company.
I will be closing my Barclays credit card soon as they do not have the best interest of their credit card holder. It’s very sad that a company a Barclays can’t see through the dishonest side that lied and manipulated me and I explained this to Barclays. I also filed a separate complaint with AMX for a different refund and they are excellent customer service to their card members and stand behind their card members.”

In the last communication they said it would be 30 days before I received a response (via snail mail) (!) I had a Barclays card a couple of decades ago and had issues then as well. I guess their lack of customer focus has not changed. ** Avoid **
