I have had a Barclays Bank Mastercard for several years. What a litany of problems! First they lost my regular payment, and I paid overdue charges. Eventually they found my payments and refunded some of the charges by check, but then they put a stop payment on the check without informing me so I paid a bank penalty when I deposited it.

The latest problem was when the card number was hacked and obvious daily fraud perpetrated--but totally missed by their fraud scanning (Chase Visa would have found this in a flash). Then I cancelled the card with their Customer Service, except she forgot to tell the account so I continued to be dunned for the $17,000 in bogus charges, and no record of cancelling the account could be found. Eventually I got to the fraud dept again, after being given the wrong number by Barclaycard, only to find the computers were done, so call back some time in the future. In my long life I have had many credit cards, but nothing even close to being as terrible as Barclaycard.

Customer service is terrible. I had to call about fraudulent charges on my account that they had already told me were resolved and spent 37 minutes on the phone, mostly on hold, only to be told that I had to be transferred. I contacted the office of the president and finally got it resolved with the help of Jonathon **. A couple weeks later I had a charge for an order that I cancelled because the shipping date was delayed and my refund was shorted. I wasn't allowed to dispute the charge online and had to call customer service AGAIN. After 22 minutes on the phone with Casper, I was told that I had to be transferred. I was put back into a menu only to have it end with "this mailbox is unavailable right now, please call back". I again contacted the office of the president and NEVER heard back from them.

Barclays sent convenience checks to me without them being requested (I had never even heard of a convenience check before this issue). They did not make it into my mailbox and I ended up with someone writing a check to cash for $900. I called Barclays to report it as fraud. I called back a week later to check on the status and they said the case had been cancelled - I was not notified. I filed another fraud claim with customer service and once again called back weeks later to find that they had marked the charge as "valid" without notifying me of any of the details of the investigation. I finally got a hold of the fraud department and they reversed the charge and said they would open a case. I was sent a photocopy of the convenience check that was clearly not my writing or signature and had some weird writing on the back that didn't look like English.

I called back 3 weeks later when I got a notification that my account was past due and late fees were accruing. The rep had no idea what she was doing and told me the case was closed and it was valid. I asked to speak with a manager and she said no... Once this is resolved I will close my account. Not a single representative has been helpful or pleasant. One even told me "you need to calm down" in a very abrasive tone when I said "I just want to get this resolved because it's affecting my credit". Barclays is the WORST bank I've ever dealt with!

A few years ago while booking a cruise I applied for and get the Carnival Fun Points Mastercard issued by Barclays with an initial credit limit of $5000.00. I use this card almost exclusively for cruises. I have always paid the card off within the promotional period for each cruise. In August I booked a cruise starting September 26th. I've already paid 1/2 of the cruise and only have a $900 balance. I have not missed or been late on ANY credit card for 30+ years. My oldest credit card is AMEX issued in 1993. I have multiple bank cards with high limits (24K, 12K, 15K, 10K), some of these do not have balances. Yes I do have cards with balances and I recently refinance my home to cutoff 9 years of payments.

Tomorrow is the date the on-line check-in opens and I was planning on using the Carnival card for the entire trip. I received an alter from Credit Karma that my credit limit was lowered to $1100 or by 78% leaving me with only $200 to use for the upcoming cruise. I spoke to 3 different customer service "managers" who refused to re-instate the original credit limit. This is a horrible way to treat a customer that has the means and proven track record of 30+ years that has NEVER had an issue with paying any credit card, car payment or mortgage.

I have other cards to use for the trip, but I won't get the 4X points they promised when I made the reservation. I have one other card issued by Barclays - I can't wait to see how long it takes for them to lower that credit limit. One final thought: AMEX Blue just increase my limit by $3000 last month, BOA approved me for their new rewards card, initial credit limit was $11,500. Barclays should be put out of business. They are horrible.

In a world in which all big corporations deliver more or less the same mediocre, impersonal level of outsourced customer service, Barclays wins the award for ... WORST customer service EVER. I opened an account so that I could earn Wyndham Rewards points for purchases and used my credit card whenever I traveled for several years, until suddenly, I found out, on my own (without warning or notification from the company) that my account had been closed due to "inactivity."

I was never particularly fond of Barclays or its customer support, so it was easy to live without them. However, after COVID has subsided, and I began to travel again, I decided to re-apply for a new card in order to earn points. Boy, was THAT a mistake. I didn't think a company could sink from a two- to one-star rating in less than a year, but Barclays has once again exceeded my expectations.

In what should have been a relatively straightforward process, my application has been subjected to a familiar series of delays, oversights, and missteps that I have come to expect from Barclays. There was no communication whatsoever by email, phone, or U.S. mail as to the status of my application, and as my departure date drew near, I finally ended up calling customer service and spending the next two hours being shuttled back and forth between customer service and the fraud department (for some reason) before a series of hapless associates managed to put the broken pieces back together again.

After I had received and registered my card, I discovered, to my utter delight, that several websites denied my new card as a form of payment and in one case, cancelled an order I had placed after the fact. Nevertheless, I have managed to make about a half dozen purchases with it, but upon logging in for the first time to view my activity, I was greeted with a friendly WARNING banner and a request for me to call customer service to resolve a "discrepancy." NOTE: I started writing this lengthy review over 20 minutes ago, while on hold for the second time today, waiting to speak with a Barclays "relationship manager," but all I have received so far is a dangerous dose of bad elevator music and frequent interruptions from a helpful computer voice, assuring me to PLEASE HOLD.

My automobile service company accidentally charged my Barclay Credit Card for its yearly membership fee; normally they send me an invoice. About a month later Barclay sent me a bill. I was surprised because my Barclay account was supposed to be closed and not usable. I didn't expect Barclay to send me a bill. Nevertheless, Barclay received the charged and I immediately disputed it because the account was closed. I paid my automobile service company with bank funds, and asked them to remove the charge from Barclay...They removed the charge from Barclay. Barclay, however, did not remove the charge. I called them multiple times and had them speak with my automobile service company that the charge was already paid.

Barclay refused to remove the charge. Barclay then damaged my credit score because they didn't receive payment within 60 days. I ended up paying Barclay the charge, so my credit score would not be damaged further. Barclay gladly accepted payment. In Essence, I paid twice for my automobile membership. One to my automobile club, and the other payment to Barclay for absolutely nothing! I'm upset about the situation, but there is little I can do against a giant financial institution like Barclay; except write this review. It's just like stealing. Barclay stole that transaction! My only hope is someone else will be warned, and not have to live through this very frustrating experience!

I unluckily agreed to their marketing material for Easy Pay Enrolled Transactions. I found out after I signed up, there isn't an Easy Way to pay off those transactions early. There are only 2 options: 1. Cancel the card; 2. Stop using the card. Even if you pay your statement balance, that will not pay off the Easy Pay Enrolled Transactions.

I have had a Barclays card since March 2016. My credit limit was $3600. Within the past three months I paid my credit card down to a $200 balance. Today, I noticed my credit limit was reduced to $700. I contacted customer service and was informed a letter was mailed. I should allow 10-15 business days and the letter would explain why my credit limit was lowered. I will pay the remaining of my balance ($200) and close my account with Barclay. They are horrible!

I was a Priceline rewards cardholder. During the pandemic period, they closed the account/loot rewards points without any proper communication or consent. I lost many hundred dollars worth of points. I connect to the customer service, even worst experience. Please no one go for this company again.

I have had this card for over 5 years. In the last several months they put on an interest charge even though it is paid in full on time. I call them and they remove the charge. I will stop using this card since this is terrible overcharging.

This is truly the worst credit card I've ever had even through hard times made my payments still drop credit limit several times hurting my credit score. This company doesn't care about you. Please do yourself a favor. Don't get this card or anything from Barclay. And besides that customer service is really hard to get in contact with.

Less than a month after receiving the card, I experienced nothing but problems! After half hour on the phone with its customer service in the Philippines, they say they were having "systems problems" and could not put a charge I was questioning "in dispute", I asked they call me back when their system was back online; they never did! I contacted the executive office who calls me back and promised to follow up; they never did! To prevent further aggravation and having experienced their lack of follow up, I have asked the bank to close my account. AVOID THIS BANK!!

Updated on 11/09/2021: Called the customer service number and was hung up on several times. When I did get someone to talk to, they said they took care of everything on their end, but turns out NOTHING was ever done. They just gave me lip service. I started writing letters to the customer service department because I did not know how else to communicate with them when they kept hanging up on me. I wrote over 8 letters and never got one response. I will NEVER do business with them again. I have had bad customer service before, but they take the title as worse ever in my book. I will never go any kind of business with them, or anyone they are affiliated with. Consumer beware of this company.

Original Review: I had fraudulent charges on my credit card. So I followed instructions on the back of my card statement and reported the fraudulent charges in writing in January 2021. I then got a new card statement with late fees and interest charges in February. I would call to get a status on the fraud and the call representative did not speak English well. She did not understand me, I did not understand her, so she just hung up on me. I called back and was put on hold and then the call hung up. I kept writing to the Investigations Department because I could not get ahold of anyone via the phone. I called again and was told it was being taken care. Then another statement would arrive with more late fees and charges. So basically I was lied to as well. I don't recommend this bank to ANYONE. It has been almost 6 months of HELL dealing with them.

I have had this card for 6 years. I pay more than is due monthly. Today I received a letter that because the balance was too high they lowered my credit limit by OVER $1,000. They said my credit score was too low. Well DUH!!! I just bought a $30,000 car!!! These people don't care about the customer at all. A good paying customer is now gone. STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!!!!

I am an inveterate global traveler and a no-foreign-transaction-fee credit card provides great advantage. Barclays Uber card is additionally no-fee and gives cash back I can use for Uber trips, which comes in handy now that I am in Ecuador. I had a Capital One card before which has similar features except that I had an issue with a merchant which to-date remains unresolved.

Once again the banks are the real enemies of the people. We all are distracted, but they keep doing what they want. I have one late payment in the middle of the pandemic's chaos (05/2020) and have tried to remove it, with no luck. I even paid my card in full. It seems that the people who work there, are computers. It's amazing how they keep getting away with it, even with the Cares Act! Thank in the new world of cryptocurrencies they have no place!!

So we signed up to get hotel credits and everything was fine until we needed to do a chargeback on a unauthorized charge. Barclays Bank (who barely speak English) first refused stating it was a signed for charge which it was not, then refused stating that the company was not a recognized company??? We went ahead and just paid it.

Then some months later out of the blue with no charges a charge appeared and when we called in they stated "interest charge" but how do you have interest on a account that was paid in full with no charges? After fighting with them and the fact they kept doctoring documents we cancelled the card. Now they have hit our credit report with derogatory remarks, checking out credit etc. and has lowered our credit score by 85 points!! How are they able to get away with fraud and lies like this!

This is the worst bank to have a credit card account. In this difficult times they lower your credit line and increase your interests and when you call customer service they tell you there is nothing to do. I have never had a late payment and I always paid more than the minimum payment. I don't recommend this credit card to anyone!!! Be careful!!! As soon as I pay it I will cancel it and straight to trash.

I received a letter from Barclays that they were going to cancel my card due to non usage. Due to COVID I have chosen to no longer use any of my credit cards. I’m just trying to keep my bills down. After 30 days of no usage they automatically closed my account. Keep in mind I have had this card for years. Always made my payments on time and paid off my card when my funds were available. Shouldn’t there be a law that credit cards can’t bully you into spending money that you don’t have OR is this what they bank on. I am truly disappointed in this company as again had been with them for years. Someone should investigate this company’s practices. I have a few more credit cards and have never had this issue with any other creditors try to bully me into spending money I don’t have.

Used the Barclays card to put a down payment on a pole barn, the business called Behrs buildings would not give me the barn prints so I could get the permit from my county. I asked for a refund after 3 days of nothing but a run around, discovered 27 BBB complaints and multiple complaints with several District attorney's offices and 17 people on Facebook marketplace I had connected with about them never receiving their orders. They wrote in on the bottom of the docu sign, "No refunds on deposits" which by law is forgery. I would have never given this company 2683 dollars had I thought at minute one I would lose that money by canceling an order that was never put in progress. I immediately contacted Barclay to do a charge back which they did, then a month later the charge was back on there. Contacted them again and they said the merchant met the criteria for the charge, I said, "What criteria and why wasn't I involved in that discussion?"

Of course they never sent me the letter then made the decision on. I spent a day gathering all the scamming information about that company including stories from 12 of the 17 people who were scammed on Facebook marketplace, copy of the 27 complaints on the BBB and copies of the Michigan and Ohio District attorney's office Complaints along with a CD where I taped every conversation with Zach Pryers the owner of Behrs buildings and his constant lies. None of any of that changed their minds.

I simply told them "you are in violation of the Consumer protection laws and I'm going to pay the balance of my card with exception of the 2683.50, close the card then send a copy of the information I sent you to all 3 credit bureaus so when you try and ruin my spectacular credit others will see what a fraud you are as a credit card company." So far I have not heard anything back, Behrs buildings ads were taken down on Facebook marketplace as a scam and Barclays can kiss me as a 6 year perfect paying customer GOODBYE.

As I continue to pay down my card, they continue to LOWER my credit limit. I am paying the card down to reduce the outstanding balance AGAINST the credit limit. I had over $1000 of credit availability and now I have LESS THAN $200, effective immediately. What if I had an ER and relied on THIS card for relief? I would have been STUCK. This reduction is the SECOND inside of 6 months. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? I don't okay late. I pay more than the minimum. I'm confused. If someone is actually REVIEWING my credit report they will see that I am PAYING DOWN MY CARDS. There was a "dip" in my score was because I PAID OFF my car note, the ONLY installment account I had. The PAYOFF actually INCREASES the amount of CASH ON HAND of about $400. This makes no sense to me. I asked them to please NOT respond with a canned message but to actually LOOK AT MY INFORMATION. We'll see. Mm.

This is the worst bank. The customer service is absolutely terrible. I was kept on hold for an hour when chasing a complaint I had made only for them to refuse to uphold the complaint and when I told them I was on hold for so long costing a lot of money for the call they just said sorry. It's just one problem after another with Barclays and as soon as I'm able to open an account elsewhere I will be closing this one permanently.

Do not use them. Made a payment and my next payment was in March and they charge me a late fee in Feb even though I just made a bigger payment to knock it down. This is why people don't pay off their credit cards cuz shady companies like this keep putting on their ** fees to keep you paying their interests. Never use this bank or their credit cards. You will get screwed over by their lies.

I have been good standing consumer for many years. I am very unhappy with my APR I recently requested a lower rate and was flat out denied! They keep increasing my credit line without me asking. I called today spoke with Janet a manager, and she informed me that they do not honor consumer request for lower APR. They do not care about the consumers!!

Since I stay in Hotels multiple times per month I applied for Barclays Wyndham Rewards Card. They approved me and I requested to have the card send to me ASAP which was a charge of $15.00. The card was send to me very quickly. Needless to say after receiving the card I Activated it, set up online account and sign up for paperless billing. Within few days I received a letter from Barclay requesting various pieces of personal documents in order to verify my identity. I refuse to send this kind of documents over any kind of mail or fax since this can be easily used by anyone to steal my identity. The bottom line I requested Barclays to close the account and wanted to pay $15.00 for the shipping fee, which they refuse to accept since my account have been locked.

Next thing I get is email notifying me that I owe $30.50. I called again. They said they cant take a payment over the phone because my account is locked. The only way I can make a payment is through mail. So I wrote a check for the amount of $30.50, send it to the address listed for mail in payments on their website. The check was never cashed. Next I received email now I owe $61.59. Called Barclays again was told there is nothing they can do since my account is locked. I was advised to keep making payments until this clears. I hope they wont ruin my credit because of all of this. I never used the card and I cant even make a payment. By the way I did received a letter from Barclay that my account was closed. All I want to do is make the payment and get them out of my life. This is by far the worst credit company I have ever dealt with. In the last 12 years I have never made a late payment on any of my financial obligations.

The credit card purchase protection for the Barclay card is the worst I have ever dealt with. I was scammed by an online merchant in France. I filed a transaction dispute with Barclays. They are very uncommunicative with the cardholder during this process. They don't ask for any details or information about the dispute from the cardholder until the initial review is already decided. Then 10 days later I got a letter that they were declining my dispute and I could finally respond with more evidence. I submitted the details of the communication and confirmed that the service had not been provided. Over a month later I got a letter again declining the dispute with a simple reason "The merchant has not violated the terms and conditions of the contract", which is untrue. They clearly don't care about actually providing purchase protection to their cardholders, it's just a front to make them look like they care.

If you are looking for a Safe option for online or International purchases I recommend strongly against any of the Barclays Credit Cards. The Alaska Airlines Visa Card has been very honest and good in resolving purchase protection issues for me in the past and also offers No Foreign Transactions Fees on International Purchases.

I received a notice in the mail from Barclays credit card, that if I did not use my credit card it would be closed, and I would lose my points. Since I have about 91,000 points that I did not want to lose. I used the card. Well I was in dispute with a vendor who charged me an excess of $42. I provided proof that I made the payment to Barclays and was charged an excess of $42.00. This occurred in Oct 2020.

I was informed that my case was assigned to an agent on Dec 22. Since then I have been charged a late fee of $40 plus interest of $1.00 by Barclays while the case is still open and in dispute. But what is egregious is that Barclays have reported me as being delinquent in my payment. So instead of my outstanding balance being $42 the disputed amount, the outstanding balance reflected in my account is now $83.00. The original $42 plus Barclays late fee of $40 and interest of $1.00. My credit score has decreased by 38 points. I have emailed Barclays to right the wrong.
