My (ex) Husband has been using Just for Men for 10-15 years with zero incident. The past two or so times he used it he developed pus filled blisters and horrible scabbing along his lip. The first time he thought it was dry skin, or whatever... but the next time, his ENTIRE lip was filled with this stuff. He did see a dermatologist, who at first thought it was a cold sore outbreak... nope. Whatever they have done, they need to un-do. There is not really another product on the market for frequent dyeing of beard/mustache hair.

I have been using Just for Men beard dye dark brown on my beard for over a year and a half now. Up until the last couple months I have had zero issues. In the last couple of months I have had itching and some redness. Since I have not had issues in the past I wasn't sure it was the dye. Then today I used it in the AM and by late afternoon my face was red and blisters appeared on my chin. There is no doubt that it was caused by the beard dye. Watch out if you use this. Something has changed with this product.

UK customer here. I've purchased JFM three times to dye my beard (their moustache and beard medium brown formula). Once in early 2016, once in late 2016 and once in early 2017. The last two times I've suffered quite substantial irritation and itchiness of the skin under my beard - to the point at which I've created some sores. The itching persists for almost a week. Now looking for alternative brands.

My husband used this product for the first time like a month ago and it looked good the first two days then all of a sudden he got red and itchy rash on scalp, neck, sideburns, mustache, behind ears and on his shoulders and back. It looked like chemical burns! I have been in healthcare for 14 yrs and never seen nothing like this! The rashes cleared after several weeks of using Aloe Vera gel and coconut oil but, now he has these nasty puss filled blisters on his head that are hard and crusty and very painful! Can someone help with what's the best thing to use and should we consult a lawyer???

I've used this product for the past 5 years to cover up some gray areas on my chin. Have never had an issue in the past until now. Used the JFM medium Brown at 8 pm last night. Left it in only 4 minutes. Not 2 hours later began to itch. Woke up at 3 just wanting to rip my chin off from the burning and itching. Woke up at 6 am with oozing sores. This is very frustrating as I had a meeting to attend. Will never use this product again and should be compensated. There has to be something that changed in the chemical make up of this product. JFM needs to pull this product until they fix the issue.

I've been using this product for almost 10 years now and was mostly satisfied with it. The only issue I had up until now was that the color dye didn't last as long as I would have liked it to. Recently I bought a new box and it caused some pretty severe skin problems around my upper lip area. The skin problems are: horrible itching, heat, redness, and bumps of pus festering underneath on skin that keep oozing. So because of that I'm afraid to try this or any other hair coloring dye ever again. I feel like they changed something in the formula. Will never use this product again. I would not recommend this item to anyone.

I have been using Just For Men beard & mustache dye for several years, noticed lately some itching & bumps around lips. I thought maybe it was from the cold weather but realized this was only happening after I was coloring my goatee. Checked online to see what I could do to alleviate the pain & itching, & stumbled upon this thread. Wish I would've seen this months ago. I agree with others that have stated they must have changed the formula. This is horrible & I am done with JFM as of today. Very embarrassing with constant sores around your mouth. Dangerous chemicals - I have heard that "Just For Men" has been around since 1987. I used this product back in 2001 and had very little irritation from its use. Recently, I used the product again, in fact, just a couple days ago. I did a test area as the directions suggest. After using the product for the full use of coloring my hair and beard it did work. I had several comments on the way it enhanced my looks and helped get the gray away. Only one problem, it's only been 24 hours and I am fully broke out with blisters, bumps and redness throughout and a itchy scalp. I pray this goes away quick but the irritation is only getting worse. Already have open oozing wounds that feel and look terrible. I may need to go into ER if this persist. This product needs to be pulled from the entire market.

Used both the comb in gel as well as the tube gel mix. Left on beard and mustache for absolutely five minutes. I set cell alarm as I didn't want this product to again roast my face as in the past. Used before and suffered some redness and itchiness as it must contain an overwhelming amount of bleach. Used this last Thursday 1/26/17. M-25 Light Brown... Noticed 2 days after application itchiness and burning and worse was the chap lips. Used Blistex and Carmex extensively to give some minor relief. As for cheeks and beard, I'm suffering from incredible amount of heat and itchiness that could make a guy scratch raw! I've applied a burn gel that's used for 2nd degree burns and still hurts like hell! Afraid to shave beard and mustache to only see the bumps of pus festering underneath on skin.

This product works, but for a quick color for a week or 2 and $10.00 just not worth the Damn pain. I will discontinue this product. My face looks like it's Damn walted and burned. Thank god, it's winter here... Been telling people it's windburn from cold weather. Embarrassed to even tell my coworkers the damn truth! This product needs to be evaluated and made better for consumers period or pulled from damn shelves. I WILL tell C.V.S. and Walgreen stores and also provide my pictures for proof. Grew my goatee out again, colored it with JFM and the itching, redness, weeping sores returned 9 hours after applying JFM. There HAS to be a change in formulation that JFM is not admitting to - or there is a severe issue with their production equipment.

So a friend of mine recently used JFM (he's used before) and everything seemed normal, but the following morning he noticed blistering along his jawline, where he applied the dye the heaviest. During that same day, the blisters started leaking a yellowish pus, not just something you'd wipe, but to the extent that it actually 'ran down his face'. Along with this, he was feeling severe burning and an intense itching. This has progressed daily and his face is producing what appears to be very dry, red open scaling that forms yellow crusting around its edges.

The itch at times is so intense that his unintentional scratching is causing bleeding. We are 2 weeks out now and it's not over yet. He is now experiencing breakouts down his neck, on his ears, and even what appears to be similar blistering on his hands. (??) We are reading that others too have experienced random spreading. So far he has chosen to tough this out... but if it continues to progress we will be heading to the Dr. Anyone here have a time frame of when this actually begins healing??? No one yet, have I read says anything about a time of relief. Seeking counsel!!

I am so irate about the JFM beard colour. It has caused me discomfort and embarrassment of the last 3 weeks! I had previously used the product 4 times, with success. Some minor itching, but I considered this a "side effect" and it faded over a couple of days. This latest application was something that I have never witnessed before. Within 4 hours of applying the product (and yes I had/have always followed the instructions to the letter) my skin was itching and burning, the more you scratched the stronger the itch got. There was no relief.

Then the burn spread, my lips became "chapped" and there was no clear line where my lips ended and my face began. The burn culminated in hundreds of little bumps that when swole up burst emitting something that I can only describe as sticky raw egg yolk. This pus had to be dabbed with a tissue to try and dry it, as if left would run down your face. If I was lucky enough for it to dry, anytime I went near a shower, the spots would open again begin to ooze. This continued for 3 days. Totally unacceptable in my line of work, a face to face salesperson by day, and a "lookalike" for a well known goateed Marvel character by night. The condition caused me to cancel work, cancel appearances at events prior to Christmas and loss of earnings and PR.

Then the scabs began, dark red and pretty much covering my whole top lip and beard area, I didn't dare shave as I knew what lay beneath. I have spent the last 3 weeks trying to allow my skin to heal. Trying not to itch, (which is still very apparent in the Goatee) and still have scabs on my upper lip. Surely the numbers of complaints with exactly the same symptoms requires a product recall and some action. As a result of using this product my facial hair has become sparse and brittle, this may well affect my career. JFM, sort this out. I for one will be making my feelings very well known via social media outlets.

I have used JFM for the past 12 years and I have had the occasional and temporary itching but nothing of significance. Within the last year, I started to develop severe itching, rashes, and oozing pimples in and around where I applied the JFM. I assumed that I was leaving it on too long but two weeks ago, the itching, oozing pimples, and rashes spread to all parts of my body. The left side of my face and the right side next to my chin were swollen with hard-textured bumps (about 2 inches in diameter each) that I could move around under my skin. I also developed a rash next to my left eye where I definitely had not applied any of the JFM.

My biggest ongoing concern however is the itching all over my body that will not go away, even with antihistamines and dermatologist-prescribed topical ointments. I wake up at 3 am and cannot stop scratching. The ointments are almost useless because the itching occurs in different places...my legs, arms, back, butt, scalp. My scalps itches almost constantly and I have rashes on my back, arms, and legs. My arms, legs, and back are filled with pimples which easily bust when I scratch them but the itch never seem to go away. I was contemplating seeing an allergist until I read these reviews about this dangerous product. Do not use this dangerous product!!!

I don't have much grey hair in my beard so the box I bought has lasted me for a few years. I often go a long time with my grey. Well I have gotten the burn several times lately. At first I thought I had gotten an ingrown hair that got infected. It happened yet again and I thought the same thing. The third time it happened I shaved off my beard. My chin was massive and oozing pus from several locations. I took massive amounts of turmeric to help my body fight whatever was going on. That was maybe 2 months ago.

I tried the JFM yesterday evening. I woke up at 1:30 am with the itching and puss coming out. I took some antibiotic cream and soaked my beard with it. BTW it was only where I used the JFM that had this issue. I then realized that he JFM was causing this. I am not sure if the chemicals have a shelf life because it worked fine for me for years. I am now taking turmeric yet again and trying not to itch. Anyone found a way to make it heal faster?

I have used this product in the past and at one time thought I had an ingrown hair and discounted it, but recently when I developed the rash it got so bad that I had to shave my whole beard off. After I shaved, you could see how badly swollen I was and the blisters that were oozing fluid. The itching and burning was so intense that I had to use Benadryl and then Prednisone to get any relief. It is scary to think of how bad it could have gotten if I hadn't caught it in time. The swelling had already spread over my cheeks with the blisters. Now that the Prednisone has taken effect, the swelling is starting to subside and the blisters are turning into more of a rash, but for a while I did not want to leave the house. My wife suggested that I needed to make people aware of what this could do and how bad it could have gotten.

Don't ignore burning and itching or something that you think is just a bunch of infected hairs, especially if you are using this stuff. It could definitely be more, as mine was. I just wish I had taken picture when it first happen, but didn't think about doing it until today. As you can tell the left side seemed to blister worse and I hope this doesn't leave me with scars. It could definitely be more, as mine was. Thank you.

JFM contacted me via e-mail late winter/early spring asking if I would be willing to test their new formula which was created to produce a "thicker beard & more even color result" (or something close to that). They sent me the new product, same box, no obvious changes. I had to provide feedback every 2 weeks or so which I did for about 2 months. I told them I didn't really notice any changes other than it irritated the skin under and around my beard and goatee big time and also my neck and there was a very noticeable burning sensation. At the end of the test and survey, I wrapped it up by advising them they definitely needed to check on the burning and itching issue and they sent me a free box of JFM for participating.

I've used the product maybe 3 times since then assuming it was just an initial reaction and that my skin would get used to it. It hasn't. Last used about a week ago and I'm still feeling a burning sensation with itching and rough, oozing patches of skin on my chin and lip. I've been using a cortisone cream that seems to be helping but it's taking a while. And I do not have sensitive skin BTW.

I was curious if there were other guys experiencing the same thing or maybe I was just applying it wrong or too heavily so I checked around the web and came across all these posts. I have been using JFM Mustache & Beard for at least 7 years and never an issue until this "new & improved" formula came out a few months back. I'm done with it and I'm going to go clean shaven until my skin clears up. Anyone reading these posts that is having similar issues needs to stop using it. Just For Men is selling a faulty and potentially dangerous product. Perhaps a Class Action Lawsuit will get them to pay attention.

It says right on the box, "Itch Stopping Cream" and it worked. Buy it, and NEVER use Just For Men again. That's my best recommendation. Take about one inch of the cream and lightly rub on face. Let sit for 10 minutes and then take another one inch of cream and apply, presto! It worked for me. I posted this cause I lived with 2 days non-stop of horrible itching and wanted to help the other victims of a product that should be banned from stores.

For over nearly 2 years I have used Mustache & Beard Just For Me M-30 Light-Medium-Brown. I applied it once a week, and per instruction left it on for just over 5 mins, then showered it off. It worked perfectly with no adverse reactions. For me one box lasted about 2-3 applications i.e. 2-3 weeks. It worked well and I was pleased with the results.

Two weeks ago I bought several new boxes. As before, I applied. I noticed a slight burning sensation after about 4 minutes, which I never had before. But I waited the 5 mins, and then I showered if off. But this time, my skin felt as though it was on fire. I washed my skin thoroughly with soap. But there was no relief from the burning and itching. I tried rubbing in some cream, but nothing stopped the burning & itching. And it seemed to be getting worse. In desperation I decided I would shave off my beard. Painful as it was I shaved off all my beard. My skin was on fire.

Over the next week the condition continued to worsen. I got weeping sores, redness, itchiness, swelling. It was so bad that I couldn't sleep. I could not shave because of the weeping sores. Now just over a week later and multiple applications of hydro-cortisone cream, mountains of lost sleep, appointments cancelled, lost work, lost income, my skin still burns, is painful to touch. The weeping sores are becoming less, being replaced by painful dried scabs. My skin looks terrible, red, weeping sores, scabs, unshaven. Very slowly, it seems to be calming down, but I'm not yet back to normal.

I then came across this site after searching for "Mustache & Beard Just For Me adverse reaction". I note that in the introduction it says they have not changed the formula. I had no change in my general health, diet or begun taking medications. I am the same as when I first used the product and had no adverse reactions. But suddenly the products burns my skin up and weeping sores... Well, something has changed! Either they have changed the formula or something has gone wrong in production. I am very unhappy.

Beard was on fire for days; had to douse it with lotion and take a lot of Ibuprofen. Switched back to a lighter color; cut the duration down to under 5 minutes, made sure I rinsed very well. Head seems to be under control (just minor itching for a day or so) but still having problems with my beard. It is a cream which is good since we guys need something that sticks to the hair and doesn't run down or melt our faces off. I used it twice so far and am very impressed by the coverage, and ease of use. The only drawback is that it takes 20 minutes, but on the other hand, it won't melt your face off. Having dyed my hair for decades, I am very aware of the proper timing and application of hair dye, but being the first time with this product, I made sure to set my egg timer and follow the instructions to the letter. After just a couple of minutes after application, my scalp felt like it was on fire! I checked the timer, and decided to go ahead and rinse it out. During the rinse process, some of the dye ran down into my right eye. I flushed it with water, finished rinsing my hair and towel dried.

After this, I continued to flush my eye with sterile saline solution, due to the intense burning in my eye. Long story short, I was out of work for two weeks due to severe chemical burns to my eye. My doctor visits included the emergency room, and daily visits to the eye doctor so they could monitor the progression of the burn. While not intended obviously for the delicate eye membrane, something is seriously wrong with this product! I have never felt a scalp burn like this, and generally accidental exposure to the eye by hair dye will not cause something so extremely severe that they were worried about permanent loss of sight in that eye.

I figured it's winter, time to see if my beard can actually take! So I used this product. At first, no grey... Young girls at the office were saying 'I like your beard.' After the 2nd month and my 2nd box of the med brown, things changed. It was so itchy, I would wake up scratching the beard. I gotta patch on my right side that looks like I have rug burn. Then this is gross... I picked it off my beard. It looked like a giant booger... then my side of my face starting producing water. Another post, said it was puss. It's water, I think. I followed the directions, used it 5 or so times... No problemo. Now I am hoping to get my face back. I just shampooed that ** out and am using moisturizer on my chin that looks like rug burn. Thanks Just For Men who want to burn their faces off!

I had used Just For Men products for some time and was working ok. Then applied same dose as per directions. And toward the end of the treatment I noticed a burning on my face from the dye. I washed off the dye right away and noticed redness. Within a day or two I noticed a discoloration and burn on the right side of my face, also itching pustules arose under the beard. The pustules still full and I have to drain same. I haven't used their products again and these has been a couple years back. I really believe that Just For Men did not do this on purpose and probably obtained chemicals from a foreign country for economical reasons and got a bad batch of chemicals thru no fault of their own. Hi everyone. I used Just For Men for a while now but in the last year or so I started to feel tingling in my head and sometimes it's really severe to a point of feeling like something is wrong with me. Then I noticed right after use maybe the next day or so, sores like pimples appearing on my scalp but the weirdest thing that I would feel is a line moving on the side of my eyes that distorted my vision but usually goes away in 10 minutes or so, so I went to my eye doctor and she said that I am developing a migraine type of headache but without the usual headache and I really forgot what she called it.

Anyway she said "this could be because you may be using or applying something that touches your scalp and goes into your head with bad results." Anyway I am really upset with this company and how they are ignoring all these complaints. I believe that a lawsuit may fix this problem soon. Today is 01/30/2016 and I used the product this morning and felt like crappy all day and that's when it dawned on me that this is my problem.

The first time I used the product I noticed slight tingling and my hair texture became very brittle. The second time I used it a couple days later to touch up some more grey as instructed. This time there was tingling unbearable burning and after the process my hair was falling out when I brushed it. The product was like a powder stuck to the fallen hair. One week later I felt dry patches on my scalp and small bumps that hurt when touched. My scalp is ruined. It has now been over 8 months and has not changed. After purchasing a box of lighter color, I used it and the color looked better. However, the next afternoon my beard got very itchy. As I touched the itchy area, my fingers became wet. I went to look in the mirror and my face under my beard had broken out into the same red sore, chemical burn looking spotting as described by others on this board. The wetness was water seeping from the sores. By the end of the afternoon I was bleeding as well. These sores lasted a couple of weeks. I am afraid to shave off my beard because I fear I will see permanent scarring. This stuff is indeed toxic. If anyone is reading this or any of the other complaints on this board, I implore you... Suddenly in October I got a new package and when I applied it to my beard everything was fine. The next day I felt so itchy, but I thought it was dry skin from the product. As the itching continued so did the irritation to my skin and then weeping. I was in denial. I had used the product regularly and never had a problem. I even did the patch allergy test and no reaction.

Like everybody else said something in the product changed and it is dangerous. I was lucky my reaction wasn't severe. I immediately discontinued use of the product. I do not recommend this product to anyone. It's tempting because it's easy and fast. I was even tempted to try it again but after finding this blog and after what I have read, no way will I try it again. The product should be banned. It's dangerous. Now, I'm left to wonder if any long-term damage has been done.

The manufacturer of this product claims that their product is safe, yet the instructions strongly recommend testing it on another, less visible part of your body. Hmm... if a company sells facial cream you shouldn't have to "test" it first on your elbow or little toe. When's the last time you had to test toothpaste on your ear lobe before using it. I am not, and never will be, a person that is "sue happy" but this is a case of a manufacturer putting profit above consumer safety... and this one guy who is going to put considerable resources towards bringing them to justice. I used this product, black hair, for 2 years and never had a bad skin reaction to it. All of a sudden a few days ago, after less than 5 hours of application, the skin around my mouth flared up. I was red, inflamed, itchy, and had weeping blisters. I'm black and Asian and the redness was as obvious as can be, I looked diseased. The bad reaction started Sat night. Sun-Tues morning, I used neosporin and cortizone-10 which did not help. Tues afternoon I made an emergency visit to my dermatologist. He knew exactly what happened because it's way too common, which is a red flag! Phenylenediamine (PPD) is now one of my allergies due to over exposure. The same can happen with any hair dye that contains PPD, especially henna tattoos. The body basically cannot handle the chemical any longer, so it fires back with a vengeance. Any dye that oxidizes, mixing of two different chemicals (the two tubes in just for men) can potentially harm your skin.

Stay away! Just For Men needs to make their dye with a whole new list of ingredients. I was given Topicort 0.25% SPRAY (Generic: Desoximetasone) and was instructed to use CeraVe products, face wash and lotion. Apparently, the cortizone-10 wasn't going to be strong enough or work fast enough. Hesitations: My blisters were still weeping/oozing and CeraVe is unnecessarily expensive. I was told not to worry about the blisters weeping and that it would clear up quickly. I asked if I should be ok by Saturday because I had an event and my doctor said that I would be fine. I carefully sprayed my face at noon, before leaving his office. I bought CeraVe wash and lotion that evening and used it that night (and this morning).

I also sprayed the 2nd dose of Topicort before bed. I wanted to get the full two doses in on the first day and didn't care that only 9 hours had passed since my first dose. It is now Wednesday afternoon, a complete 24 hrs since the first dose of Topicort and my blisters are scabbing over (they stopped weeping Tues night), the inflammation has gone down dramatically, and the itch is barely noticeable. I used Topicort this morning (Wednesday) and will keep my doses 12 hrs apart from this point.

I did not have faith at first because my face didn't initially like the Topicort, but I was going to at least give it 2 days - unless I had an even worse reaction to it than from the dye. If the skin around my mouth feels too dry, I've been applying the moisturizer and all is well. If you don't want to buy CeraVe, I was told Cetaphil and Eucerin (respectively) are the next best choices. Just to note: I received the samples of Topicort from his office, 2 sample bottles of the brand name - not the generic, so ask for those! I imagine that the potency and effectiveness of this medication is going to come with a hefty price tag.

For a Halloween costume on October 30, 2015, I decided I needed a black beard. I purchased Just For Men and used it for my skin test on my arm on the Friday afternoon. I have used JFM once before, a couple years ago, and had no problems. On the Saturday morning, my arm was clear so I proceeded to use it on my full beard. After 5 mins, I washed it all off and began to shave my beard in a way for a period piece circa 1888. My chin was shaven clean with my moustache and cheek hair remaining. Within approx 6hrs, I noticed my face where the dye had been was becoming very itchy. I ignored it because usually, facial hair makes me itchy. My skin was also becoming warm in that area.

By Saturday afternoon, my face was very itchy and the warm sensation had turned to burning. However, I could see no redness under the beard. I also notice by Saturday evening, my jaw line had seemed to drop. I didn't realize what was happening because the beard was covering everything. As soon as Halloween was over, I couldn't get home fast enough to shave. What a mess! My face, from my ears to my chin and down my throat, was heavily swollen and sore. Again, didn't think was the JFM. The burning sensation got worse within hrs and my skin around my mouth started to blister and leak fluid. Even the area of my chin where it was only on for 5 mins before I washed and shaved was blistered as well. My skin and throat were sore to touch. I went to bed that night and tossed and turned because my face was so bothersome.

I woke up in the morning to a face that was stuck to my pillow from all the seepage and just overall, tremendously sore. My face was throbbing, burning, swollen, and still weeping. I, as well, now had a massive headache. I decided to look online and, sure enough, found all these other similar problems. I immediately went to the pharmacy and got Benadryl and anti-inflammatories, and allergy medicine. It has now been 24hrs and the burning is under control. The weeping is minimal and the itching is under control. The swelling is still present and bothersome and I am watching it closely around my throat area. I don't know what it is for sure that had caused this. I'm not a specialist but I do know that everywhere this product touched my face, is affected. My arm is still clear. Never again will I use this product and I will tell everyone I know not to use it too. It's not worth the pain.

Knowing I never had problems with the product before I wasn't quite sure the product was the cause. I did make the decision to not use it until my unusual breakout subsided. The dry bumps in and around my beard went away after a week but my lips continued to break out, split, bleed, and secrete a sticky wet substance for about 4 weeks. Again, because of how long this went on, I assumed it was just a major cold sore breakout, which I have NEVER had prior in 43 years of life.

About a month and a half ago, like an idiot, I tried Just For Men mustache & beard again. The blistering, wet secretions, cracking, and bleeding followed less than 4 hours later. I've used this product for approximately two years. I always used the product as directed in the directions. After I used it I would notice my scalp and skin itched more than normal. However I thought this was just a normal side effect. Four weeks ago I used the product on Saturday of that week. By Saturday night my scalp and chin were extremely irritated. They felt as if they were on fire. I washed my hair more than normal that night in an attempt to alleviate the pain but it did not work. By Sunday night I and others observed the swelling in my head around my temple and forehead areas. All the while my scalp was still irritated and felt like fire. Monday morning as I prepared for work I noticed the swelling had gone down a little but was still noticeable from Sunday. I went to work thinking I was going to be OK. However, while at work the swelling got progressively worse.

After only being at work for less than three hours and being observed by my supervisors as well as others I had to be taken to the EMERGENCY ROOM! By this time the swelling on my face had spread and I no longer looked like myself. I normally have a slender face. However now thanks to the swelling my face was round. I had swelling from my cheeks, my eyes, forehead, chin, and scalp areas. They were concerned about my throat and eyes closing. Also, the puss that had begun draining from my scalp area since Sunday night had gotten progressively worse. At the emergency room they gave me a steroid and some other stuff through an I.V. to stop the swelling. I spent about 6 - 8 hours in the emergency room. Once I was dismissed I had to take a steroid, benadryl, and something else for a week. Using JFM caused me to miss a full week of work. The swelling, itching, and puss did not completely go away until Friday of that week.

The doctor at the emergency room ruled out anything I had eaten. He stated I had an allergic reaction to the JFM product I used in my head. He showed me on my CAT scan the different regions of my head that had swollen as a result. In my opinion this product is not safe. After 24 hours, rash of reddish spots on my chin, very very itchy skin (at night worse), the spots or pimples turned into watery, itchy blisters, and afterwards even the cheeks were affected/infected. I had my beard cut and the tragedy came out clearly. I paid 2 dermatologists, something Just for Men should refund! I wouldn't recommend this gel even to my worst enemy! I have only just started using Just For Men beard for about 3 weeks. I have never had any problems with my skin or being sensitive until I used this product. I followed the instructions as necessary. From the day I started using it I was really impressed with the results but I could notice that my skin was quite red under the beard and very itchy, but when I applied it last Friday my face felt like it was on fire. The following morning I was extremely worried, my face had swollen up and I had raw patches everywhere where I had applied it, and even the gland under my chin has swollen. Apparently this happens if you have bad burns on your face and infections. 5 days have gone now and not any better. I really hope this product has not scarred me for life. This product is like acid and is very dangerous. I am keeping the rest of this product to have it tested.

Updated on 08/17/2015: Since I've used it, I have noticed splash marks from the product on the paintwork in the bathroom. It has even burnt through the paint work. I'm now on antibiotics for 2 weeks, swelling has gone down but I'm not sure if my skin will fully heal. I have phoned JFM helpline and they don't want to know. I have used Just For Men beard color for the past several years, applying approximately every 3 days. I faithfully followed the package directions on every application. The results were acceptable up until November 2014. The morning of November 9, 2014, I applied JFM as I had always done, shampooing and rinsing it thoroughly. Later that day, the skin under my beard began to itch. As the day progressed, I also began to notice small blisters that began weeping a clear liquid. By evening, I had developed small to medium blisters on the skin beneath my beard, oozing a yellowish pus and developing crusty scabs. The blisters continued for several days which prompted me to seek medical attention with a dermatologist who treated me with topical hydrocortisone cream and oral antihistamines.

Not connecting the use of JFM with the skin ailment, I used it again when the lesions were healed, yet the reaction immediately occurred again. Suspecting an allergy, I consulted an allergist who administered a battery of test and concluded that I had no known allergies. When I disclosed the use of JFM during the assessment, the allergist stated that what I experienced was a chemical burn due to the ingredients contained in the JFM product -- I had not suffered an allergy. Since that time, I have allowed my beard to go natural gray much to my dismay. But having healthy skin, free of great discomfort is well worth the gray beard. I am exploring alternative beard coloring products at the present time, but am very cautious regarding the use of any chemical dyes. In hindsight, I suspect that JFM changed their chemical formula in later 2014 -- especially since I have confirmed that other guys have had the same, if not similar reaction to its use.

Recently, when I've used the product my skin turns red underneath the area where it is applied - and around the area - even though I try to rinse off more thoroughly than ever before. Bumps appear and the itchiness is constant and causes you to scratch until the area is redder than ever. I've used it several times because I didn't like the white/gray color appearing in my facial hair - but it's just not worth the discomfort - I'm checking into safer alternatives and found at least one "organic" chemical-free product out there. When I googled the product to see if others had had problems - there were hundreds, if not thousands of complaints just like mine. Just for Men is harsh and possibly dangerous and should be pulled off shelves until it is redesigned to be safer.

The following experience is from a "new" package and contents. I had been using the old version with no concerns for approx. 6 years. I read the instructions thoroughly, assembled the necessary items - timer, towels, etc. before starting. And it got bad right away. The little plastic mixing tray? Useless! I should have glued it to a brick so I'd have 1 hand free to try and correct the purposeful deficiencies in product design. The plastic mixing device/applicator brush? Same! It's a 2-handed task and a time-waster (it's a time-sensitive reaction, right?). I used my finger instead. The applicator? I would have had more success using a pastry brush!

Again, my fingers substituted for the supplied tools (funny, the instructions specifically stated that this should not be done...). I have a beard. It's thick and bushy, and not like the 4 days of growth on the face of the 20-year old on the box. If I had used the supplied applicator, well, it simply could not be done. The whole process was entirely improvised. Combining that with the meagre, stingy amounts of dye, the crappy tools - maliciously designed to waste the actual ingredients brings me to the conclusion that it was never tested on people with beards. The real tests were done by people with very sharp pencils squeezing the last possible dime from the last possible purchaser before losing market share. You got me. Fooled me real good. Shame on you folks! Oh yeah, my face turned red as well, but for a different reason.

Using the Just For Men Beard & Mustache coloring as directed in the included instructions also resulted in uncomfortable skin irritation for me as many here have described. This became increasingly uncomfortable as time progressed, and I decided to apply an over the counter topical cortical steroid anti-itch creme from the local drug store to achieve some relief, which over the course of several hours did improve the discomfort, so I repeated the application several times until I achieved complete relief over a couple day period.

I was hesitant to use the Just For Men product again, but also did not like the grey in my beard as it slowly returned over the next week or so. I decided to try it once more, but this time instead of waiting for the burning and itching of my skin to start, I applied the cortisone creme to the affected area of my face as soon as I had dried off from the shower that I took to rinse the Just For Men coloring out of my beard.

Applying the creme preemptively proved to be much more effective. By preventing the skin reaction to the chemicals in the dyeing product from ever getting started, I didn't have to try to reverse the skin irritation reaction that so many have experienced. This resulted in using much less cortisone creme, because the initial application immediately after using the Just For Men is often all that is needed, instead of the multiple applications required to get your already burning, itching skin back to normal once the skin reaction has started.

I have been using the method of preventing the skin reaction for a couple years now with consistent results. Occasionally if I didn't get the creme evenly covering all affected areas I may need to reapply some later to address some discomfort, but usually this hasn't been necessary if I've been careful to get it applied well the first time.

Using the cortisone creme preemptively will add to the cost of using the Just For Men coloring, but may allow many people who are having reactions to the product to continue to use it if desired. I hadn't seen anybody else provide any treatment ideas other than expensive visits to dermatologists, or emergency rooms, so hopefully this will give someone another option to try before going that route. Now for the disclaimer, this post is not intended to be medical advice, and your mileage may vary, so if you decide to try this, do it at your own risk. I can only say it worked for me, and I have no idea if it will work for anyone else.

And I'm afraid of further irritating the skin. I'm not sure what to do. The burning, itchiness and pain is very uncomfortable, and I don't want to give up on growing my beard. I won't ever use this product again.

Just For Men. Real Black M-55. I tried this product. I did the 48 hour test and then used it. The afternoon after I used it my face became irritated. The next morning I had blisters all around my mouth. I immediately went to my doctor and took the prescribed medication. It's been 2 weeks and my mouth still has blisters and they're seeping a yellow puss all day and it hurts. I'm now looking online to see if there is anything else I can do. I'm going back to my doctor again tomorrow. I don't know what else to try or do. I've been in pain and I can't go to work because I look like a freak. Any answers would really help. Why would they let this product be sold on shelves? I've been taking pictures of my face and it's bad.

I have been using this product for several years, actually 15 years. However, I noticed back in August of 2014 a slight change in the product. After that time I began to get what I thought was at first an irritation when applying Just for Men's Mustache & Beard coloring. When in fact it was causing what appeared to be second-degree type burns to my face areas, where I applied their application and so, I stop using their product for several months thinking that maybe I had gotten a bad production batch. Nevertheless, after not dying my beard for about 5 months I tried it again to sadly receive the same outcome.

I have been using JFM Medium Brown beard dye for over 6 months now without issue. Just two days ago, I opened a new box and applied as usual. After waiting the recommended 5 minutes, I washed it out. Less than 30 minutes later, it felt like my face was burning a little and started to itch. I decided to go to bed (because I usually shave and dye in the evening). Around 1 am, I woke up because my face was itching and burning like crazy. I jumped in the shower, washed my face and applied massive amounts of moisturizing lotion to my beard when I got out. The next morning I saw my skin under my beard was red and patchy. I applied some Redness Relief moisturizing lotion which helped for about an hour but the itching and burning returned.

I noticed when I scratched my beard, little yellow scab would come off and my beard felt wet. I had to apply ice packs to my face because the itching and burning got real bad. The second night, I could barely sleep due to being uncomfortable with itching and burning. I kept applying massive amounts of moisturizing lotion to my face and applying ice packs to help ease my discomfort. I have been drinking massive amounts of water to help my skin hydrate and apply lotion almost every couple of hours. It's now day 4 and the itching and burning are not as bad but I still feel it a bit. I've been tempted to shave my beard off but I've been growing it for 6 months already. I will keep applying lotion until the redness and scabbing from the blisters goes away. I just wish the area around my mouth wasn't so sore since I have hardly eaten for 3 days now. I will look for another product in future. This should be pulled from the market.

After much experience, I've found that at least 45 min. to an hour is needed to get partial color absorption. Although I still have brown hair, my beard will not color dark enough without using black. This gives me a dark gray beard. Recoloring three days in a row doesn't improve anything. I don't suffer any irritation or skin problems. I would gladly risk skin problems if I got sufficient results.

Up until recently, the only allergic reaction I had was lactose intolerance. Two weeks ago, my left hand swelled up with redness and hives. This occurred about 16 hours after a Just For Men application on my sideburns, mustache, and goatee. I went to urgent care and was prescribed Methyl Prednisolone and Benadryl. It cleared up.

Yesterday I performed another application of this product and within 5 hours, my chin and right eye swelled. I also had hives breakout on my right arm. I went to the Emergency room, and was prescribed Prednisone and Benadryl. I traced back my activities and discovered that these severe allergic reactions coincided with the applications! I did an internet search this morning and ended up here finding several other complaints! There is something different about the chemistry of this product! I never had problems before. I dyed my beard again this morning and it is driving me crazy... So much so that I looked the problem up online.

To my dismay, many men are having negative reactions, from itching and burning, to swelling to dizziness to hospitalization, and the company says that a 24 hr patch test should be done to insure we have no reactions to the chemicals. The company hasn't come out with a gentler formula or anything. They point out their disclaimer 24 hr patch test. I'm not sure what chemicals have changed in this product, but they've changed something! I will never buy Just for Men again. Sorry, but my love for this product is over.

Then, on the eve of a very important photo shoot "it happened". I applied JFM to my beard and mustache area and within 25 minutes my facial skin became tight and irritated. I thought, it must be my fault, maybe I applied it wrong? (this one time after 20 plus applications)? And despite me being meticulous and methodical about the process?

Needless to say, I had done everything as I normally do so, I went to sleep in a significant amount of discomfort but figured I'd be fine in the morning but when I woke up, IT HAPPENED. Oh man, my pillows and bed sheets were covered in yellow pus, blood and JFM dye, my face was burning, and I could barely open my mouth! I was due on my photo shoot in 3 hours, and could not miss it!

I show up to my job and the make up girl goes "Bobby I can't do your face, you have a severe chemical burn on you face!" and explains it can happen from poor quality hair dyes that make contact with your scalp. Needless to say I could not do my job and was fired. What's worse, I have yet to find a product to cover my grey on my face since. Clearly JFM changed the formula at some point.

I found that the only thing to give me relief was aloe sun burn lotion, put on my chin after using another antibiotic lotion I had, and taking huge doses of Benadryl. The old ones were like a toothpaste tube with a small comb. Didn't think much of it at the time. Mixed the two together while using the plastic gloves...let it stay on my head for 5 minutes and washed out. Next day, Saturday, went to work...no problems. Got home around 5 pm. Took a shower and about 10 minutes after I dried off and dress, noticed my hair was still wet?? Took a towel and start dabbing it, thinking it was still wet, til i noticed a YELLOW PUS liquid on the towel??? Then all hell broke loose -- it was so bad, it was like my head was on fire...I had blisters on top of blisters. I couldn't leave the house for two days.

Went to see the doctor on that Monday. He gave me some Steroids and a special soap. After a few days the Scalp was still sore but stopped blistering. I had to call in sick that Tuesday from work. It was the FIRST TIME IN 25 YEARS since i had done that. Then by that Wednesday I noticed my left arm and chest started to break out. Thought maybe the Steroids may had a effect. But after a week of it getting worst, All Red and itchy and started to scab up, went to the Urgent care last night. They said it was bad and put me on Steroids again. Now for 14 days -- total of 40 Pills. The nurse also told me that another man was there the night before with the same problems. Think Just For Men should be accountable for their product and take it off the market NOW. I heard there was a class action suit against them. Consumers considering Just For Men mustache and beard coloring should be very aware for the risk of reaction. After using the product for 2 months without a problem, I purchased a new container of the product. Since I had used the product with no problems, I didn't take the instructions regarding testing it before each use would be necessary. I was wrong because this time, within an hour of using the product on my mustache, I began to swell at the corners of my mouth, next came itching and more swelling of my lips. Each time I washed my face with a gentle face wash, my lips would sting and itch. This continued for over a week with me trying to find something that help the itching and swelling. The corners of my mouth began to look infected.

After taking Benadryl for a week, I tried Blistex medicated ointment and it has finally started to improve. At first I didn't know for sure if the Just For Men has caused the reaction so I tested a spot on my arm as recommended and within a few hours, swelling and redness began - by the next day the spot is red, swollen and itches like crazy. I am at this site today because my recent experiences--which includes having awakened this morning to a swelling of my face along the jawline--led to me to knowing I had to research what might be the cause. (I have used JFM for years and never had a problem, so JFM's being the culprit wasn't my immediate conclusion.) But I am extremely surprised how so many of us have been experiencing similar problems. It truly has been odd. The serous fluid ooze is something that I have never experienced from any product ever. I had worried, to be candid, that it was skin cancer. And I also had itching, terrible itching, but--again--I didn't automatically suspect JFM because I have been using it for a very long time.

Something needs to be done. This product needs to be recalled. (I just purchased a few boxes and I would, of course, like to be able to send those back for a refund, not much more importantly, there needs to be a halt to sales of this.) Is it a change to the formula? Is it employee sabotage? What is it? Thank you to all of you have posted here before me. I am grateful to know that I am not alone. If anyone can suggest an alternative product, I would appreciate it. And I hope that someone steps in for us--a government body and/or a law practice.
