I use Just For Men one day and was alright everything was looking good and then the next day at work, from 3:00 to 11:30 about tenish the crew and I took a break. Well when I came in the break room one of my staff members said what happen did you fall or did someone hit you? I said no and there's nothing wrong with me and she said again what wrong with your face. So I go to the mirror and look and my right side of my face was swollen and it look wet. Now I knew I have not just any water in my hair. So I took a paper towel and laid it on my head and YELLOW pus was all over the paper towel. I was itching and I was scratching and there was a lot of pain.

About ten minutes the other side of my face had started to swell up so I took off to the house. I told my wife and she said we had it looking so good yesterday what happen? I do not know but it been itching like a dog and there skin in my fingernails and lots of pain. I could not sleep at all even with pain pills. I had to sleep sitting up because the oozzz that came from my head was making my pillow case stick to my face and covers. I was off of work for a whole week and still today there is an itch that comes and goes. My hairline is uneven and if I get a number one fade you can still see the spots on my scalp.

With all the similar symptoms I've been reading here, I wish I would have researched before I used it. Lost a day of work already, heading to doctor tomorrow, it's really horrible to look at and embarrassing. Seems to be getting worse with every passing hour.

I've been using Just For Men beard dye (dark brown) for a few years and never had a problem. I bought a package in June 2014 from CVS and I've had a itching rash on my chin where I used it ever since. It's been over 3 months since I've used it and the rash is still there. This is crazy. My experience was using the JFM Beard & Mustache (Dark Brown). I had been using packages from CVS marked with a copyright year of 2013 without any issues for several months. I then ordered directly from JFM online and received a 2012 marked box. THIS is when I noticed a problem. The 2012 dye made my hair scrunchy and didn't appear to "work" as well as the CVS 2013 packages. I then bought a three pack from Amazon and received 2014 marked boxes. With this 2014 version, I am experiencing a burning sensation when I apply it and getting itching and some redness on my face. I am also losing hairs! I think the formula changed and there was a chemical reaction between the 2013-2012-2014 dyes. I have discontinued use until this itchiness goes away and when the dye wears off...

Friend of mine said he was dyeing his stubble and recommended I try Just 4 Men beard dye. I bought Jet Black. No issues, did 3 applications over 6 weeks whilst my beard was around an inch and growing. Didn't use it for 4 weeks as I ran out and the brown/ginger came through. So I bought the Dark Brown/Black color. Applied it. Same day I had a bath. I then put the usual products on at night. That night I spent all evening itching and scratching in my sleep. Over a few days I had dried skin and small rash. Saw the doctor who said it was a fungi infection and prescribed a special shampoo. I thought it was psoriasis (I can't spell it but had it on my head before).

Today, as I have a wedding to attend on Sunday, ahead of a haircut beard trim I decided to dye it. Last night I spent all night itching in my sleep. My face was on fire, literally burning. I had to get up at 3 am and apply the shampoo to cool it down. My face is red under my beard and just around it, area are scabbing over and puss is coming out of my skin. I can't believe there are no health warnings. What can I do?

I've used the product for years with no problem. Over the last few weeks I've been burned by the chemicals. It's itching horribly, redness, burning sensation. Driving me crazy. Painful. Creating scars then the itching leads to bleeding scars. Slight swelling. The burning is the worst. No cream will alleviate the pain. I thought perhaps I had just become allergic to it for some reason - but I was shocked to see everyone else on here and on other websites experiencing the same thing. The scars ooze and then after some time crusts over (disgusting, sorry). It's a yellowish crust leaving tender red skin underneath. If you wash off the crust, it starts all over again with oozing. I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow. I was holding out but I'm done. It's not getting any better.

Had to put a towel on my pillow for two days until the oozing subsided. It left small hard scabs under my beard where the oozing came from. Five days after that, the itching started and then my face started peeling and flaking. What is even MORE disturbing is that I came into contact with someone who uses this product regularly (learned this in retrospect) and after inadvertently using the same face towel, my friggin LIPS swelled up and started burning and cracking. I had been a user since it was introduced in the early 90s. When they came out with the Beard and Mustache formula, I also began using it on my mustache and goatee. However, in 2008, I began to get leaking sore on my bottom lip and blisters several days after using it. I inquired about a change in formula and they denied it 100%. There is no doubt in my mind that they did and it is what is causing these blisters and sores. When I discontinue, they go away. I had to shave all my facial hair off and keep it off. I did continue to use it on my head with the only problem being a slight itching. I recently wanted to grow the mustache again so I put some on my new mustache growth and lo and behold, 2 days later, blisters on my bottom lip.

Here's something I found on Wikipedia: One of the active ingredients is PPD, p-Phenylenediamine, which was voted Allergen of the Year in 2006 by the American Contact Dermatitis Society. Some users switch to henna-based products, such as Wolfshead Beardye as a result. I'm going to file a complaint with the FDA and also refrain from using this product. Does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative?

I used this product three times - the last time I developed severe scalp irritation and weeping/bleeding scalp sores that persisted for well over one month. During this period my life was agony. The worst was to follow hair loss. Now some four months after my last Just for Men application my hair seems to be returning to normal i.e. not falling out by the handful!

I have since switched to regular hair dyes (marketed for women) with excellent color results and without the suffering or apparent risk of baldness. If you still feel you want to give this product a chance take the allergy test very seriously and do it for every application. In my case the allergy test was negative so consider testing the product on your scalp behind the ear as recommended with other hair care products.

I started using JFM about a year ago at the request of my wife. Around October I developed neck pain/discomfort and headaches. Lived with it for a couple of months until decided to see a doctor. MRI and X-rays of my head were OK and showed natural signs of aging but nothing else. Sent to a pain doctor who injected the back of my head a couple of times and diagnosed the problem as tension headaches.

I am 54 and a business owner for 17 years. I understand what stress does but I had never reacted to stress like this, ever. Anyway, my wife applied JFM on my hair again a couple of days ago and a bit spreads over below the left side burn. The very next day I developed contact dermatitis and a bleeding sore below the side burn. Scare to death thinking this is skin cancer I go into a Google search like most people and find these very helpful forum. Now I wonder if everything is connected. Only one way to find out, will stop using immediately.

Just purchased my second box of JFM beard and mustache. Identical symptoms as described by others... Itching, weeping lesions. I have attempted to remove product, and have applied Benadryl and an antibiotic. I have taken pictures to document. Either their formula has changed, or there are 363 people whose body chemistry suddenly changed (I'm sure countless others are unreported). This product is dangerous and should be removed.

Tomorrow, I will begin taking steps to help pass the warning, as I suggest we all do. I will contact the company and begin researching steps to provide better consumer protection. Please, take a moment to share your experience with this site, and the sites that sell it. JFM must acknowledge and deal with this dangerous product change/alteration.

I even bought another box because I thought it was a bad batch. This time is even worse. I have been home bound for a week now because I look so bad. I emailed the company and gave them all the information on the boxes and their only response was to stop using it. Something clearly needs to be done about a class action suit. I first tried this product about 6 months ago when I tried growing a goatee for the first time. I kept getting scabbed up pus blisters on my chin. At first I didn't associate it with JFM. I just assumed that because I've never grown a goatee before it was a reaction to growing hair on my chin after close to 30 years of shaving. I finally gave up on the goatee, and decided to use the remaining product on the sides of my head that starts to grey. Well SAME reaction as my chin, so now I KNOW the product is responsible for the bumps, blisters, pus and scabs. Along with that, I accidentally got some of the product on the top of my ear, and that spot too got the blister/scab, etc. I'd love to know of any lawsuits. I would be happy to join. But more importantly.... Is there a SAFE product to use?

Approximately five weeks ago I decided to grow a beard, which was coming in a little gray, and figured since I did not have any "test" skin reactions to the product that I would use it on my beard. HUGE MISTAKE! I developed chemical burns, red welts and severe itching. There were nights when I could not sleep because I was too busy scratching my face off. It was only until I did some searching on the internet did I discover that "Just for Men" was the problem.

I immediately discontinued use and within two days was relieved of the itching. The burns and welts are still there but I am sure within time they should heal. If not then I am looking at permanent scarring. I contacted the company and never heard a word from them. Apparently they do not care about the concerns, general safety or health of the customers that purchase their product, only in the profits. It is safe to say I will NEVER purchase their product again and am considering a lawsuit. It would be wise for everyone to avoid their product and seek an all natural dye.

The itching would start the next day after using the beard mix, and continue with itching until the coloring would fade and require a reapplication. Eventually, after researching whether it was my own body developing something strange, I started researching Just For Men and saw the many complaints all centering on the same issues.

Since I can't afford to independently sue them for the product lost from having to discontinue its use, the physical irritations and resulting sores and scabs from the severe, and I mean severe itching, I believe my next step is to forward my complaint to the proper authorities responsible for overseeing what type of products are allowed to be sold to the general public, while obviously failing to be accountable for the substandard materials used in their reformation of formulas in their interest of making higher profits at the expense and health of the consumer. I've since shaved my beard and the scabbing, scarring has healed and the itching has disappeared.

USDA? BBB? Whatever it takes, however I can within my limited means, my goal is to bring Just For Men a similar discomfort and irritation they brought me. 343 consumers with basically the same issue can't be in error. Make that 344. Time to take whatever possible of a big legal swing at a company that makes other corporate business all fall under the umbrella of greed. I'll research the non-chemical hair colorings, since I like wearing a trimmed beard, and am willing to try non-chemical brands in the hope of not having the irritation physically and mentally that Just For Men is allowed to get away with.

I've been using JFM for a number of years. This last time, with my most recent purchase of the product 03/2014, I noticed a difference in the makeup and consistency of the two solutions that mix together as the color is prepared for application. A day after applying the hair color, I am experiencing blisters, that are persistent and do not go away, on my forward scalp. I've had them for 2 days now and the condition is not getting better at all. I thought I had poison Ivy or similar. So I can tell you, something is drastically different in the chemical make-up of the product.

If JFM wants to stay in business, they need to stop messing with the successful ingredients and go back to the original formula. "If it isn't broke, please don't fix it". In my opinion, JFM obviously Did Not Test this latest formula, or, did not test the ingredients if they are now obtained elsewhere. And why would they not do that if they sell something folks apply to themselves?! They know they have customers that have been using their product for years. To change "anything" about it and not test it is very bad policy. Just for Men needs to man up and fix the issue.

As with several of the other entries, I have noticed a very loud ringing in my ears since I began using this product (and even now as I write this). I have not experienced any burning or blistering so far, but will stop using this product immediately, and will recommend that my friends do the same. I have been using JFM dark brown for beards and mustaches for 6 years now with usage averaging around twice a week. It's been a good product with no side effects for me until recently when I started getting itching and a rash after each use. Just did a Google search and found all these other instances of same. I must assume they have recently changed their formula and this is the result of that change. For treatment right after application I did rinse it out thoroughly and use conditioner to neutralize the acid. Then I applied Neosporin cream as an antibiotic and it also has an analgesic. This combination works well if you apply the cream several times a day until symptoms or cleared up. Perhaps there is some sort of class action we can get started that will encourage the manufacturer to go back to the older formula. In the meantime I've got to find another product to take its place.

Clear discharge if I rub too much, and rub I must because it itches like crazy. I've also noticed with the hair product I get crusty skin and clear discharge behind my ears, plus scalp itch, which was always a minor issue, has become more so. After a couple weeks of the same symptoms, I went to my dermatologist who couldn't identify what the cause of the sore was. It was not herpetic. I haven't heard of this happening to other people to my knowledge but here is what happened to me. I used the dark brown beard dye on my chest several times over the course of say 5 years. The last 2 years I had complications but didn't connect the dots until the third time it happened. Sure I got a rash but it went away but 10 hours later I would get ringing in my right ear then it would clog so I couldn't hear and I got vertigo. The first time I woke up and I couldn't lift my head, I thought I was dying. I eventually was able to lift my head with my hands and stand up to stabilize myself. Crazy, I went to Kaiser, they gave me a hearing test and I had lost hearing. This happened two more times then I realized it was from the beard dye. I can't hear certain pitches, concerts can be painful, etc... I looked at the packaging and the dye was made in Mexico. I think I am severely allergic to some chemical.

I stopped using dyes on my beard for a while about a month which for me was a long time. I had a wedding to go to on the 22nd of February so on the 21st of February I had to dye my beard (I was just way too grey to go to the wedding like that). I am now scratching like crazy, my hairline has again become irritated by these crusty pimple like things and my beard is itchy like crazy. It begin to burn so I thought maybe I had it on 3 minutes not much more, so I rinsed it off with shampoo. 3 times. The pain went away. I went to work and bought an Amp energy drink and drink it. It was only 5 hours after the application my chin was very large & rectangular shaped, swollen and sweating clear fluids that dry up as it leaks like sperm stains. I then became irritated and very itchy. I stop by the store on my way home, chin dripping like a sprinkler on low. I bought some whole milk and when I got home put it in a little bowl large enough for me to submerge my chin in. This greatly eased the itching. I guess the milk neutralized the effects of the lye or whatever is in the formula. I am still leaking badly. I then added some hydrogen peroxide in the milk and soaked my chin for about an hour total. Did this to try and deter any further infection. I am not experiencing much itching and discomfort 16 hours later, but still am swollen. I am not swollen as badly but still swollen beyond public open appearance. If the milk and peroxide works better than the luck our fellow brothers of this experience have had, I will post it as a relief completely!

I found this site a few months back when I was wondering what could cause my weeping, pussing open sores. Like everyone else, I used both JFM hair as well as beard dye for the previous 3 or 4 years with no issues. I purchased a new box of each just prior to Christmas, and started with my goatee and side burns. What I experienced next was similar to most everyone else, an indescribable itch and burn. I have never had an itch so bad; the actual act of scratching (even though I was ripping my face open) was almost orgasmic. It was awful.

The good news is after shaving I healed in 2 weeks with no permanent damage. Yesterday, at 4pm eastern standard time I finally got the gonads up to run an experiment - I opened the new hair dye, mixed a little in a cup and touched up my graying roots with a toothbrush. Good news - the gray is gone. Bad news - as expected, 16 hours later my scalp is pussing with the little open sores. I have to believe that everyone who uses this product experiences the same thing. I see now that data is being mined for a potential class action lawsuit. I urge everyone to join and make them feel pain. If anyone else has better info on a suit, please post here.

I have been using JFM beard dye for 10 years and for most of that time, I thought it served me well. Unfortunately over the last 3 years or so I began to notice a very small patch of skin tone discoloration. At first this was imperceptible and I thought nothing of it. However over a course of time the skin patch in and around my goatee beard slowly became more noticeable and at odds with the rest of my natural skin color. As the the problem became worse I also noticed that the JFM dye was starting to become very problematic causing me to itch uncontrollably. The skin area around my goatee beard became so inflamed as to produce a burning sensation which is undescribable, unless like most of the guys here, you have had the misfortune of experiencing. Nothing would abate the onslaught of torture I endured whilst the itching drove me to claw my face in such an excrutiating and uncontrollable manner.

After many years of using JFM, I finally had to stop using it as the allergic reaction far outweighed my vanity needs. If my affair with JFM ended here it would not be so bad. However the discoloring in and around my beard, mouth, chin, and neck continued to get worse. Not only that, the patches then started to spread to the back of my hands and also my genital area. I soon found out I had Vitiligo. Now it could be one big coincidence but after 2 years of constant research, I am now discovering that a build up of hydrogen peroxide in the human epidermis can cause oxidative stress leading to Vitiligo. As in my case this is not hereditary, fingers crossed, the process will be reversible. I will of course be seeking highly professional medical consultation to establish if there is a connection between my Vitiligo and the prolonged use of JFM over a 10-year period. I hope all of you who have had a bad experience with JFM will post your problems here so we can see the full scope of what may be the tip of the iceberg!

December 23 2013, I purchased the Just For Men N55 black to color my beard. Within two minutes, I was washing it off because of the severe burning and stinging. The next few days I broke out in a severe rash under my beard and neckline and now my chest, back, under arms, down my sides and my genitals. It burns and itches. Nothing is working? Benadryl, creams, etc., the only comfort I have is coconut oil. This is horrible? It is getting worse and I could lose an opportunity to go to training school if this continues. It's embarrassing and painful! How long will this last? Somebody needs to do something about this!

I have used this product for over 6 years and never had a problem. But 3 weeks ago, I used it and my lips were on fire! I thought I had just gotten chapped lips, but it got worse with bumps and cracking and bleeding. I tried every kind of lip balm, Vaseline, aquafor, even a nipple cream (heard it was good for chapped lips). Finally went to the Urgent Care at the end of 2 weeks and the doctor said just try using oil-based petroleum jelly. He didn't have a clue. At the end of 3 weeks, I felt it easing up a bit but it was time for more Mustache color (JFM). Again with the burning lips! I started right back over - intense itching and pain. I googled JFM just to see if anyone else had this reaction. I really believe there should be a lawsuit!

It was an eye-opening experience to find that I was not the only one to experience agony after using this product. I, like the majority of guys on this site, had used this product for years with no problems. What a shock when I started to experience the same side effects everyone has described. What the hell did they do to this product? Did they find a cheaper way to produce it in some third world country? This company really does need to be sued. God forbid they are testing this on innocent animals.

I work in a high profile customer service position and was told to find a way to cover up the mess on my face or take sick time until it cleared up. How humiliating! JFM needs to be taken off the shelves immediately. I had a case of poison oak on my face from hiking in the past. It didn't itch or burn nearly as much as JFM. I hope there won't be any permanent scarring from the sores. UNBELIEVABLE!

I have used this product for several years, with no issues. I just used it again last week. The next day I had a burning rash on my face where the product was applied. It is the worst itching I have had in my life. Just For Men should be banned from store shelves. This is so painful.

I have been using JFM Mustache, and Beard, brush-in gel, medium brown # M 35, for the past few years. I have always had good success with the product, UNTIL NOW. About three months back, in October 2013, I purchased a new box of JFM, M 35, and noticed it did not look the same... like the formula had been changed. Well... I did my normal application of the product, like I always do, making sure I just get the hair, and absolutely nothing else. Suddenly, my skin began to sting, and burn, and act like it was on fire. After 5 minutes, I washed the product from my mustache and goatee, and the stinging got a little better.

The very next morning when I woke up, my lips, were on fire, and I had blisters all over the tops of my lips, and around my goatee hair line... Then, I knew there was something wrong, or different, about the product. I began using lip salve, Carmex, and anything that would relieve the burning, and heal my lip blisters. It took about a month for my lips to completely heal. I told my hair dresser about it, and she said, "Quit using the product".

About another month passed, and I needed more color on my mustache, and goatee. So, on December 1st, I completed another application on my mustache, and goatee, and the exact same burning, and stinging began to happen, and so I washed the product off after the 5-minute time limit. It is now Sunday, December the 15th. 2013, TWO WEEKS AFTER THE LAST APPLICATION, and my lips still have small blisters that are fluid filled, and I am using tons of lip balm, because my lips burn so bad. I WILL NEVER USE THIS PRODUCT... EVER AGAIN!!!!! ACTIONS NEED TO BE TAKEN AGAINST THIS COMPANY... "COMBE INC" 1101 Westchester Avenue, White Plains, N.Y. 10604 1-800-431-2610, Justformen.com. I agree with many on the subject of something changed with the product Just For Men. Had used it also for years. Got a box two weeks ago... I am still suffering with burn-like sore on my throat and very, very itchy rash around it. This product has to get off the shelves period.

Like everyone else here. After using JFM on my beard I am experiencing a terrible chemical burn on my face, blisters, swelling of my face and a nasty constant fluid discharge from the area I applied JFM. I was surprised that so many persons are having these problems with the product. I truly think that action should be taken to remove this product from the market. It is extremely harmful.

I started using JFM about 18 months ago to dye my beard and mustache. For about 15 months, things were fine and I was satisfied. Then, suddenly, about 3 months ago, I started getting red splotches in the beard area that started itching and then burning. I continued using JFM, but less frequently, to see if the itching and splotching would stop. It got worse and began to turn into welts. Partly because of my scratching constantly to alleviate the itching, my face started to bleed. I discontinued using JFM weeks ago. The open lesions have healed but I still have red splotchy, itchy skin. I have found that skin lotions for eczema relief help with the itching and pain. I searched online and found at least one beard dye that uses henna and mostly natural ingredients which I will be switching to when my face heals. I will never use JFM again.

I have used this product before without any issue. I had shaved off my beard last about 5 months ago and decided to grow it back. Purchased the same color as before. Applied it and noticed the mixed ingredients looked lighter than before. I was good for a few hours and then a slight itch began. The next day, it was much worse and began to burn a bit. After a while I couldn't stand it and shaved my beard off and took Benadryl and applied lotion to the affected area. It calmed down and I went to sleep for a couple hours. After I awoke the itching started slowly again and I still have a nasty rash. Going on my third day of this crap and my skin is still broken out in an itchy mess! I recommend everyone contact JFM on their web site or call in. This is total BS!!!! JFM will be lucky if they don't start receiving lawsuits.
