Always liked and trusted Microsoft - until now... You have got to be kidding!!! My admin rights were changed without my knowledge, thereby making it impossible for me to access my own account! That's very troubling!!! Additionally, your ridiculously obscure and fragmented support protocol has made it impossible to resolve this. I have been unable to effectively connect with your Data Protection Team... weeks of back and forth phone calls... messages left by reps canot be returned... the misspelling my email address has your attempts to reach me go unanswered.
On the few occasions we did speak, I was put through a series of repetitive questions and re-telling of my story - each tech claiming to be "the one" to resolve my issue...Guess what - it is still unresolved. The original issue alone is very troubling - but your impossible communication platform prohibits bringing this to an end. What can I say? Not expecting such an inferior level of service from Microsoft. It's obvious you don't care... Seriously disappointing!

Windows 11 is the worst OS! In my opinion, it's Vista's little sister. Yesterday, a very important document in my personal vault disappeared, and I know I didn't delete that document. Today, an important accounting folder in my personal drive disappeared, and I know I didn't delete that folder. Microsoft, your OS is sloppy and destructive! Your company doesn't even deserve a rating of 1.

I've been using Microsoft since DOS and all has gone well - except lately. Microsoft always delivered products that were useful. They worked to constantly improve them and the improvements made sense - until now. Now Microsoft is shoving things down our throes, things that will generate money for them. They don't give us the ability to deny what they are forcing on us. I don't want to have to pay to back up all my data on their cloud. I already have a clod backup that I can control and am very happy with. And as for AI - I have no interest in climbing on the band wagon. Then there's all the problems they've caused with their upgrades. Microsoft is starting to act like Boeing - money first, quality later. Where is Gates when you need him?

On September 29th, my Microsoft account was hacked, and fraudulent charges totaling $155 were made. The hacker purchased Xbox and Microsoft gift cards ($60, $45, and $50 respectively). I promptly reported this incident to my bank, and they initially refunded me and disputed the charges. However, I was shocked to find that Microsoft apparently provided "proof" that led to my bank reversing the credits. It's obvious the gift cards were cashed because someone stole money from my account. Yet, Microsoft clearly failed to investigate who actually redeemed these gift cards or check the IP addresses involved—none of which were linked to me. Despite this, I am now being forced to pay for fraudulent transactions I did not authorize.
After this reversal, I attempted to reach out to Microsoft for a resolution, but the support system has been a nightmare. Your support menus loop endlessly, and when I finally managed to connect to a live agent, I was directed to submit a claim form—only to find the form submission button permanently grayed out. I tried every suggestion provided by the live agent, yet nothing worked. Eventually, the agent offered to escalate the matter directly, but their response did absolutely nothing to help. I am incredibly disappointed in Microsoft's lack of support for customers facing security breaches. I need an immediate resolution to this issue. I am not responsible for these charges, and I expect Microsoft to address this case properly, investigate the transactions thoroughly, and refund the stolen funds. Here is the email “Help” I received:
"Dear Gamer, I hope this email finds you well. This is Imane E from Microsoft Xbox Support. Thank you for contacting us and giving us the opportunity to help you fix your concern. I hope I met your expectations on this interaction. It has been a pleasure. As per the chat conversation we had about the refund request, this is a formal follow-up to your case. I have received an update from the designated team.
Upon further review, it appears that the unauthorized purchases were made on September 29th, which falls outside the 14-day window for eligible refunds. Additionally, we are unable to process your request as the Gift card purchases have already been redeemed, and our policy does not support refunds for redeemed tokens. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that you have experienced, and I appreciate your understanding and patience while this problem was investigated. If any other issues arise, you may contact Xbox Customer Support and one of our support representatives will be happy to provide further assistance. Note: - You may receive an email saying that your case has been closed. But don't worry, this is just an automated email sent at the end of the chat - I would like to thank you once again for your time and cooperation. Sincerely yours. Imane E. Microsoft Xbox Support."
THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!! Is there another email address to reach out to?? A phone number?? Something??

For two years in a row, I was charged $99.99 for a Microsoft subscription that I neither understood nor wanted. When I realized the charge, I struggled with the cumbersome cancellation process, which required signing into an account whose email I had long forgotten. Microsoft offers no direct way to dispute charges by email, and their automated phone system repeatedly disconnected me, telling me to go online. Only when I selected the option to make a new purchase did I finally reach a representative, after an hour on hold, who informed me a refund was impossible since it was past their 30-day limit. Even after requesting a supervisor and being told the issue would be escalated, I am still waiting for a response. Microsoft’s support system is incredibly frustrating, and they seem more focused on taking payments than providing adequate service or support.

Absolute trash. Why would I pay 99 dollars for a decades old program that has been paid for with almost every computer purchased in the decades previous. Someone needs to come out with a quality program that is purchasable for life. Period. This is absolute ignorance to buy a program every year or even more than once. This is manufactured by the people that require the constant updates. That is a manufacturer issue and should not fall on the shoulders of the consumer. done with MS. This company surely should have gone under long ago. Clearly people don't care about their money or this crap would NOT fly.

"**Mixed Feelings About Microsoft Products and Customer Experience** As someone who's passionate about reviewing products across various industries—from software to restaurants and sports—I've always admired the innovative features that Microsoft products bring to the table. Their software undoubtedly makes productivity easier, and I love how they continue to push the boundaries of technology. However, my recent experiences with Microsoft have left me feeling frustrated. Despite the potential of their products, I’ve faced recurring issues with accessing them. My product key has inexplicably become invalid more than once, disrupting my ability to use the software I've paid for. This has happened with three separate computers, and each time, I found myself locked out because I no longer had the key code.
As a loyal customer who genuinely enjoys Microsoft’s products, it's disheartening to invest in features I can’t fully use due to technical setbacks. I strongly urge Microsoft to improve its user experience to better serve customers like myself, who rely on their software for everyday tasks. My goal as a product reviewer is to highlight not just the strengths of a product but also areas where improvements are needed. I believe companies can do better, and I look forward to seeing Microsoft take that step forward."

The only reason I gave two stars is because the rep did his best at helping me and he is not to blame. The massive issue lies in Microsoft's failure to fix the problem on a programming level. I worked on my email draft for almost a week, as a lot of research was involved. All I had to do is attach a few images from my phone. So I used my iphone app and instead of attaching an image, I accidentally clicked on event attachment. So I closed it. Instead of just removing the event, the whole email draft was deleted! Without any warning. Zero logic involved. So, I thought ok, it's probably in my drafts. Nope, it wasn't. Checked the deleted folder, not there either. Checked the junk, sent, recoverable, NOT ANYWHERE!!!!
The fact that closing an event deletes the whole email FROM EVERY SINGLE PLACE is an actual thing, is UNFATHOMABLE! I can delete picture attachments, but clearly event attachments come with EGREGIOUS, IRREVERSIBLE consequences without any information, logic or warning. Are you guys ok??? This is unacceptable! I spent ONE HOUR on 3 phone calls and almost TWO hours on live text trying to understand how to possibly undo this crazy situation, IF I AM LUCKY after doing that 3-4 times within a 24 hrs period. Not to mention that you clearly outsource your customer service to India and there is a language barrier which complicates the process even more.
I googled this issue and seems like endless other people have had the same problem forever now, yet NOTHING has been done to fix such a huge failure. It's like closing a car window and your whole car shuts off mid driving, just because you closed one window. And then the dealership makes you run diagnostics 3-4 times within a day to MAYBE fix the issue. It's YOUR JOB TO ELIMINATE THE ISSUE FROM HAPPENING, NOT THE USER'S JOB TO DEAL WITH WAYS TO FIX YOUR FAILURES through torture and wasted time. It's 2024. Get it together, Microsoft. Erasing an event attachment should have nothing to do with erasing the whole email from EVERY FILE IMAGINABLE FOREVER. It's insanity and complete inadequacy on your part! Switching to gmail from now when it comes to anything important, until there is a public announcement about this issue being fixed. You have failed us.

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and frustration with Microsoft's handling of a recent data loss incident involving my OneNote account. After years of relying on OneNote as a trusted platform for storing and organizing critical information, I was devastated to discover that five years of my data had been corrupted and lost due to a server failure. Despite the severity of the situation, I was disheartened by the lack of urgency and concern exhibited by Microsoft. It felt as though my individual loss was merely a minor inconvenience, and there was little empathy or understanding for the significant impact this has had on my productivity and personal life.
I believe that Microsoft should take greater responsibility for ensuring the security and reliability of its cloud-based services. The loss of five years of data is not a minor issue, and it is imperative that they implement more robust measures to prevent such catastrophic failures from occurring in the future. I urge Microsoft to reevaluate its approach to customer support and data recovery. Customers who have invested time and trust in their products deserve a higher level of service and accountability.

Similar issue to those I've seen others report on here--the customer service is horrendous. I got locked out of my account for the stated reason that there had been "too many failed log in attempts" and even after I've tried to reset my password, it still happens again and again. Contacting customer service for account recovery apparently has to be done online but you're unable to successfully do it, because you can't enter enough "information" to satisfy that you own the account. Trying to call them gets an automated service and saying "representative" will not get you one; eventually the automated service says "I can't help you, have a good day" and hangs up. I tried calling back and it must have recognized the number because it said the same thing and hung up.
Finally tried on a 3rd number and was able to find a sales support number by searching online--was able to finally talk to a human who said she'd transfer me to a representative for my account--was on hold for 10 mins, she came back on, thanked me for my patience, said they're trying to secure a representative. Went on hold again--20 mins later finally supposedly got one--she supposedly transferred me and no one picked up, the line was silent--after 5 mins it hung up. Total garbage with their customer service. Have been using them for 20 years and will find another email provider.

My experience is still happening. I just lived through the first night of not being able to work from home due to Microsoft mishaps and it is frustrating to have no control because I can’t remember age old password that I never really had to use because I do not use my outlook accounts unless it has to do with Microsoft. So of course I filled in enough information several times and have received several codes via email. Should be end of story but after you get the code the system still does not let you reset the password.
I called one of the many numbers. Sounded like I called another country. Guy with thick accent told me to answer when IT calls. There was no such call. I have never experienced anything like this when needing to reset my password to get access to my own computer that I bought and paid for because Microsoft made unauthorized changes to my security and I got exactly no notification at all for this change. Google always send notifications especially in regards to security with instructions for if I did not make this change. It’s now day 2. I’m on pins and needles waiting for 9:00 to call headquarters. That 24/7 support is a lie!

When I tried to call customer service to talk with a representative that automated system kept hanging up on me. Since then they have been randomly been taking money from my checking account in the amounts of $4.99, $9.99 and even $69.99. When I finally got a customer service number, it instructed me to open my Microsoft account, which I have never had one. I called the bank and was issued a new card, new number and this morning these thieves have got me for another $16.99. I have deactivated my Facebook after seeing too many friends get hacked. But, I have temporarily activated it in hopes to post and get some traction about a Microsoft issue that has been ongoing for many months. I purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro 8 PC about a year ago and have loved it, except for a camera issue. After a fresh reboot, the camera works fine. But after a day or two, it starts to lock up and cannot be used for unlocking the device anymore (aka Windows Hello), and instead I have to enter my pin to unlock it.
After a few more days, it ends up completely freezing the PC and shows @BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), with an error code of "iacamera64.sys". Obviously, a non-functioning camera is not acceptable if video conferencing is a required feature, in addition to the inconvenience of not being able to unlock with a feature they promote. But what's worse is when you're working on something and your PC completely locks up w/ the BSOD. I have contacted and interacted with Microsoft over 20 times, and fortunately started to keep a log of our interactions after the 3rd or so, after having followed the troubleshooting directions they supplied.
In contacting Microsoft, they have been friendly, but still have not resolved the issue, and thus have wasted a TON of my time. At one point, they "warrantied" the device, but ended up sending me an inferior device with lower specs. I just so happened to be looking at the About page and noticed the specs, then looked back at my receipt from when I purchased and realized it. Clearly they didn't tell me I would be getting a device with lower specs. All of these details are in the log (specs timestamped for 1/7/24). Hopefully Microsoft will do the right thing and actually provide a resolution, rather than just empty promises.

After receiving her death certificate, the associate told me he could not reverse the charges imposed several months after her death because she did not cancel the renewal. I advised him that she could not cancel the renewal because she had been deceased for several months. He refused to credit her bank account even after consulting with the same supervisor who demanded to see the death certificate. Absolutely disgusting behavior. I will never use another Microsoft product.

Updated on 11/04/2023: 3 times, I've contacted Microsoft about a withdraw from my account from May thru Sept,. The first time you said you couldn't find it. The second time, Microsoft looked up all possible emails. They claimed they couldn't see it. Before the 3rd time, I submitted a federal investigation. The 3rd call to Microsoft, I was told what it was, belittled, they acted as if it wasn't their fault and couldn't cancel it. Then, in the same investigation Microsoft called me back and I had to raise my voice and shun the representative for them to comply with the answer of closing the account.
Now, you've caused me to lose my bank account, and you are partially responsible for it and my time recovering from the issue. Currently, the violation is leading to court for Discrimination with Microsoft as a 2nd Defendant, liable for the issue. Although, the funds have been returned by the Financial institution, you've wasted hours of my time. The bigger issue is that you are conditioning me to believe that I need to become belligerent for understanding.
Original Review: This is not my first run-in with Microsoft being a fraud. First it was regarding offering an understanding for this Onedrive and asking for compensation due to breach of security. This time, someone has opened an account and used a "microsoft" email. I'm not sure who uses that. And, supposedly as Hotmail account... NO ONE USES HOTMAIL.
I've had two recent problems with accounts. One, was a possible accident, the other, a full account was opened and has been taking funds out of my bank since May. My financial institution Aspiration finally gave me the information I was seeking to try to find it. When I called, after not using the account and reporting to the FINRA the 3rd Party bank sent me the information. It's extremely troubling to see that such a large organization is losing so bad that they're starting to utilize fraudulent accounts to make money. All it takes is a small amount and for you to miss the transaction. Seems that the bank is willing to pay for it as well. I'm sickened by this issue!

I went on a cruise for a week, when I returned, my xbox account had been modified, my gamer tag was changed. It was **. Now it's **. I contacted Microsoft about this after verifying no email was received about the change to my account, also verifying no successful access was made to log into my account. The 1st person I spoke with told me to contact my bank to verify no pending charges were made for a gamer tag change. I immediately looked on my banking app to verify there was none and she urged me to call the bank to verify. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she immediately hung up on me.
I then called my bank, yep, no pending charges. I called Microsoft back, which is a hassle to begin with to get ahold of anybody, and they verified they didn't change the tag, doesn't appear anyone changed my tag from my console, can't tell me more than that and refused to allow me to have it reversed. I've had that tag since 2015 but 3 years ago, Microsoft changed the system so you can't exceed 12 characters in a name and claim they are helpless in retrieving my tag for me. Even that 2nd person's supervisor said there's absolutely nothing they can do and there's no other dept or other individuals that are capable of reversing this for me. Only thing they offered to do was reverse the $9.99 charge so I could create a new name. After being a loyal Xbox customer since 2015, this is the best Xbox could do. Not acceptable in my book!

Microsoft keeps updating without my permission despite having automatic updates turned off. Windows 11 Randomly disconnects from Bluetooth with no fix in sight and it still does this today with Microsoft continuing to ignore problems such as Windows Updates Destroying PCs that are less than 5 years old, calling computers that are 3 years old obsolete or outdated, and giving newer PCs a random Blue screen of Death because you played games on it like Minecraft which updates way too frequently. Then when they have briefings, they would lie to the customers and then go back to ruining more PCs. Back in October of 2021, I did not want to Upgrade to Windows 11 right away because there were complaints about the taskbar being messed up. Then the Windows update nagged and nagged at me until I installed it in April of 2022, It Began to destroy my PC about six months later.
In January of this year, My PC began to freak out and I decided to go buy a new one in which I shouldn't've done but I thought it was totally ruined. I Got a New PC a month later and that one began freaking out a month later due to cooling issues in which I got the cooler replaced and it worked fine. Then more updates came and slowly started to degrade the gaming performance of the PC and made Minecraft unplayable with any type of addon that is installed in the game. You go to load the world and there's a error that sounds like they are happy that it didn't work. It would say this "at least one of your resource or behavior packs failed to load". Seriously, I know that it failed because of updating the game way too frequently but also giving me a random blue screen of death when I'm about to close the game.
They should be out of business because they continue to mess with customers and the products that they buy. Look at Minecraft for Example, They took Notch's Game and turned it into a nightmare of bugs and crashes just because an addon was installed and it even crashes without them installed. They took Windows 11 and turned it into a Chrome OS ripoff which was designed by some arrogant young programmer that would then ignore bugs in the OS because they make millions of dollars every year. I wish that Mac OS would take over as the main operating system in schools, colleges, and offices because although there is a learning curve with this OS, it becomes easier to use once you understand its concepts.

I only wanted to change my password to my Email account and now for the past week I cannot get into my Email account. I called Bell my computer supplier and after about about 15 minutes he hung up on me. My whole computer format has changed since this lady changed my regular computer layout.
I am truly upset with Microsoft. I am an 80 year old man who is computer friendly and not computer literate. My experience with Microsoft services has been anything but pleasant. It's extremely tedious to attempt to make any changes to your account, because they need so many different kinds of verification for one simple thing. I've attempted to add a phone number to my Microsoft account many times, to redeem a reward on Microsoft Rewards, and it's never so easy as just adding a phone number.
The phone number you add has to be never used by any other Microsoft account in the past, which I find to be ridiculous. Even if you delete the phone number that is in use on another Microsoft account, you still cannot add the same number to a different account, meaning that you would have to add a completely separate phone number to even have a number registered on that account, that wasn't previously registered on any account in the past. Because of this, I cannot currently redeem anything on Microsoft Rewards. I guess I'm expected to get a completely, brand-new phone number, that has never been used on any Microsoft account in the past, to add it to my account.
The seemingly only way to verify the reward I'm attempting to redeem is through texting or calling a phone number. Microsoft gives you no other options, making it extremely frustrating. I had to dig to even figure out why I couldn't add a phone number. Microsoft is extremely not user friendly, as they make it incredibly difficult to find the information you may need and makes it so you are unable to perform verification on your account, that should be easy. I am extremely disappointed in Microsoft's services. Thank you.

I am sure most people will agree with me that we do not want to be connected to Bombay India or vicinity every time we call Microsoft with a problem, in need of help and have to struggle understanding your customer service personnel's unbelievably thick accents?! Please realize that When we call customer service, we are already frustrated either with your products or services to begin with so don't escalate our frustration by hiring hard to understand people?!
We call your damn customer service line, patiently wait for an hour or so to receive some technical help and then Boom! We don't understand a freaking word coming out of the customer service personnel's mouth! Out of frustration we hang up and redial, hoping the next person will not have as thick of an accent and "Boom"! Another hard to understand person that I'll end up hanging up on for raising my blood pressure struggling to understand what the heck they are saying!!! Time for all the companies out there to Stop being cheap and hiring outside help possessing extremely thick, Hard to understand accents which we don't understand and start hiring American just like you expect us to buy American!!!
Can't expect us to buy American then get help from India or Africa or Asia or somewhere where they possess really thick accents majority of the time just because labor is cheaper there! When you interview them for a phone job make sure you understand them first!!! This is not by any means prejudiced, I am merely stating the facts that a customer service particularly one with a phone job must have a Pleasant, Clear Tone of voice at least a reasonable, understandable accent that's easy to understand For All. I have tried multiple times to contact Microsoft Company. I have even tried to chat with very much difficulty. When using their chat line, it could never answer my question. It would only send me to an AskTech Software page. The page then requests that I give my Visa information and a $46 service fee.
Microsoft must be out of their minds if they think I am going to pay them for a yearly subscription and then pay them to answer a question about my account. I wrote them and said, that if no one is willing to contact me by phone, so I could discuss my problem with them. Then I would no longer want to be dealing with their company. I do not want to chat with anyone online. I want to speak to a live agent and if that is not possible, I would like to cancel my subscription. I don’t believe that anyone should be charged for a question, nor do I believe that anyone should not be able to speak to a live person about their account. When I started using Windows operating system back when Windows 3.11 came out. I mostly saw incremental improvements that benefitted Windows as an operating system. Then as Windows 8 came out and subsequently Windows 10 and 11, I saw a change in what Microsoft considered an operating system. It became much more involved in pushing an ecosystem built on purely Microsoft software and services. Even making it more difficult to change to a third-party web browser. But also collecting a lot more data on its users. The once basic platform to run software has now become its own intrusive and bloated install filled with stuff many users do not even want. Some of it you cannot even uninstall, and also mostly forcing you to use a Microsoft account whether you want to or not. It's even worse than the old days of Internet Explorer where it mostly was the only browser usable.
Today Edge cannot be easily uninstalled much like Internet Explorer. In fact, it's worse because there are plenty of good browsers out there that are not given the same respect of the OS (Windows) as Edge is. At this point, after decades of using Windows I do not do so as a choice but as a reluctant user with little choice but to endure the whims of Microsoft. But I am close to saying enough is enough with Microsoft's unwillingness to respect an equal place on its operating system for third-party apps that directly compete against Microsoft apps. Windows as a OS should be neutral in how it handles any and all applications.

Because I didn't know my password and was unable to recover my account, I have been unable to contact any form of customer support (web chat, email, phone, etc.), because for all of those you need to have access to your account, or else Microsoft just doesn't offer that form of support anymore.
I've now been trying to get a refund for two hours. I've called in a number I got off GetHuman.com (Microsoft hides all their support numbers online so no one can find them) and I talked to a rep that was unable to recover my account or request my refund. She told me she'd transfer me to a supervisor. She's had me on hold for 30 minutes while she periodically checks back in to tell me she will transfer me to a different supervisor because the previous was unavailable.
What is clear is that this entire system is designed to make it impossible for those who have lost access to their accounts to request a refund. I am certain that Microsoft must make a lot of money from this anti-human policy. For this reason, I have decided to open a lawsuit in small claims court and to file a consumer complaint with my attorney general.
Still, no matter what I do, Microsoft refuses to allow me to request a refund because I don't have access to my account and provides no legitimate way for me to recover my account. I thought that was ok until they said it would be a used "reconditioned" unit that would function perfectly. Having had "reconditioned" units in the past I knew that I was just acquiring someone else's issues. Plus, I had only had the unit for just over two months! So, I said that I would rather upgrade to a different model and pay the difference. Because this had gone on so long the 60-day period for return/exchange had passed. I was told by one agent that Microsoft had a trade-in program, so I checked it out. The amount that Microsoft wanted to give me for two-and-a-half-month-old Surface was $180!!! I paid over $2000 for it. My issue and request was sent to a "team" and they said because my Surface was bought 90 days ago, I would only receive a used unit and no return and upgrade.

Two follow-up chat conversations and a very long phone call to sales support and each time was told "we can't do anything, but we've put a note in for the chat rep and they will contact you tomorrow to fix this". All **. No one ever follows up. Asking for a manager gets you hung up on. Which means another 30 minutes on hold or waiting for a chat rep to respond. I will never buy another Microsoft device again.

As a news source, really bad. Content stays on for days and becomes irrelevant - not helpful if news is what they want to provide. Also, have to sort through so many ads to get to actual information, again, if you are trying to be a news source, make me sort through the news to find the ads, not the other way around. Also, many of the stories are related to controversial issues and the most inflammatory take on them rather than just reporting the facts - amusing some people think MSN is liberal - most links are to Fox News. Not saying Fox is bad, I choose a variety of sources to get balanced coverage on issues, but liberal, MSN is not.

I wish I could rate lower than a 1/5. I ordered a Surface Pro 7+ bundle back in March 2022 with the type cover keyboard being shipped in mid-May 2022. While FedEx lost the type cover package, I have contacted Microsoft customer support five separate times to handle the issue. They kept blaming FedEx, however, they did not offer a solution to resolve my problem. I did everything that they told me including filing a claim with FedEx on June 2 which FedEx sent to Microsoft to approve and no response so the file was closed 3 weeks later. I had to reopen the file with FedEx and try calling back Microsoft to approve it. I have asked Microsoft several times if they could resend the type cover and they said that they could not each time. I asked to speak with a supervisor and they said someone would call me back within 10 minutes and then another 3 weeks went by with no phone call.
Then they told me they would give me a reference number for a credit towards the type cover which is not in stock and they do not know when it will be back in stock. They said that I need to keep checking back and call when it is available to reorder. I asked them if they could just send one to me once it is back in stock, however, they said that they would not do that. I have wasted so much time and it has been over two months since the package was lost and dealing with Microsoft. They are not helpful and this is a very upsetting experience. I am going to return my surface and go buy an Apple instead. I have always been an Android person, but at this point, I want to get rid of all Microsoft products.

I received an email from the actual legit Microsoft support saying there was a sign-in activity from Ukraine, and it gave the IP address and other information. Sent from account-security-noreply at accountprotection.microsoft dot com. But when I manually checked my "recent activity" in my Microsoft account, no such sign in was listed, either successful or otherwise. I contacted support about it, and after over an hour of trying to convey the issue, they finally just stated "it's fine, don't worry about it. You are secure." At which point I asked them why this happens, to which they replied "it is the random emails. Don't worry about it."
So of course I asked "Random emails?" But they continued to just say "Your account is secure. There is no sign in from Ukraine, is there anything else I can help you with?" After having gone AFK for a long time as if to check for the activity... It was very suspicious and I asked for a transcript of the entire chat. They insisted there would be one. When I asked for reasons why I would receive an email from them about unusual activity that isn't showing up in my recent activity, they said they'd 'forward' it to a tech team." So I requested they email the transcript AND give me the case number for this 'forwarded' case. They insisted it would be emailed after I stopped talking with them on the chat.
I insisted they email it beforehand. He gave me the current case number. I requested the case number of the FORWARDED case, and he said it's the same number... After being promised an email of the transcript of course I hang up and no such email was ever sent. So I ask you, would you feel safe knowing you received a legitimate email from Microsoft saying unusual sign in activity has been reported from another country, only to be told "nah don't worry about it. It's totally fine. That didn't happen. That email was just random." So what is Microsoft actually doing with my account info? Are they picking and choosing what actually gets reported to me?

All my sources of income, bank accounts, and tax records are available only by electronic communications in that Hotmail account. I spent countless hours filling out Microsoft online forms, only to be denied access to my Hotmail account every time. Much research revealed I cannot contact Microsoft by phone, chat, or text to explain my situation and prove my identity conclusively with voluminous evidence. In the decade or two that may remain to me, I could lose over a million dollars due to Microsoft's actions. Many people serve long prison terms for doing far less harm than that. We don't need to rebrand them as "apps"; they should only require the web if they require the web; "programs" was fine. "Apps" doesn't exactly sex it up, dial it down. I want to manage my drives and devices. I have a computer; I know where the internet is. If I want to shop, I will write "for sale" or something to that effect in the search bar on a search engine. Or click on the "shopping" tab.
I am using the computer in English because that is my native language. I am fluent. Please stop pushing your trash products on me and let me try to manage the files I am using. Please for the love of God why is this happening? Why does my Device Manager simply list my devices? Fascinating. Now let me manage them. I miss Windows 95, and that's saying something. Please God, make it stop--the endless updates, mostly. Every update makes the computer, system, functions, "apps", etc. WORSE. If I wanted "apps" I would be using a phone. I purchased credit for my 11 year old daughter on her Microsoft account. However we were unable to use the credit on her account. I contacted Microsoft and spent over 1 ½ hours on the chat… Eventually spoke to the manager…. but was informed that Microsoft will not refund the money. There is no honesty in this company… No caring for their customers… No sense of ‘doing the right thing’. Even the support person knew and agreed that what I was requesting was a very reasonable request for a refund under the circumstances. The money was sitting in my daughter’s Microsoft account… not being used. But they said that Microsoft policy was not to refund the money.
Please listen to the overwhelming number of reviews. Go to Apple where you will be treated with care and respect. Where if a user makes a mistake… and changes their mind about an order… the money is promptly refunded. Microsoft just point blank refuse to refund the money… which is a very short termed and close minded way of dealing with customers.

Tried to rent a movie on my Xbox and got an error message stating that the transaction didn't complete and to try again later, so I rented it from Amazon Prime. A bit later, I got an email from my bank stating that the Microsoft charge actually did process. I sent a refund request to Microsoft with a detailed message about what happened, but they refused, citing that their Terms of Service does not allow refunds for movie rentals. But if their system told me that there was an error and that I wasn't charged, but Microsoft actually takes the money and refuses to give it back, constitutes theft IMHO. I called my bank to dispute the charge and they didn't even need to investigate it. They gave me my money back immediately.
The thing that sucks about that is that Microsoft gets to keep the money anyway, because when you win a dispute through a bank, the bank actually eats the cost because they don't actually take the money back from the merchant. I'm still going to pursue other remedies (like this review) to make sure people are made aware that this happens, because until we start holding corporations accountable for their theft of our money, they'll keep getting away with it! So do not be satisfied with just a charge back from your bank! EVER! This is going to be a long post. I have a Microsoft Surface Book which cost about 3k when purchased. So as you can see it's not the cheapest you can get. It is an I7 and the best at the time. There was an update in April 2020 that ruined my experience with Microsoft. When that update occurred, I realized my network adapter was nowhere to be found. Now when that update happened it was 2 months after my warranty expired (of course) and when I called tech support I was told that. They did try to fix my computer using many techniques.
The last one being a usb update which didn't help either. I went online and read multiple users experiencing the same issue as myself. If you see soooooo many people complaining about the same thing that is no longer a user error but a manufacturing issue along with the update. I have not found one person say that calling Microsoft has solved their issue. In order for me to fix the network adapter they said I would need to pay $599 plus tax to get a new computer as there isn't a way to just fix the adapter. How convenient is that for them? Needless to say that laptop sat for over a year as a "paperweight".
Fast forward a year and a half and I was able to use my laptop by buying a usb adapter for the wifi. It wasn't the most ideal fix since when I detached the top I lost all wifi but it was a fix nonetheless. This was working for the most part until a couple of months ago when I decided to call Microsoft technical support again hoping they found a fix now. I spoke to someone in another country as I always do for them, and the rep went through all the same steps I did two years ago with no fix.
The only thing this time that was done different was she logged in to my computer remotely and worked on it that way. So as you can see my computer was still operational since she was able to log on, but what happened after destroyed what little I had of it. There was an update she did and once that happened I was unable to turn on my computer at all. I called customer support, talked to manager and everyone said it was my fault because letting someone from their tech support work on my computer was at my discretion and even if they broke it, there was nothing they could do. WOW! Simply WOW MICROSOFT. A multibillion-dollar corporation treating me as a piece of... Telling me to go buy a new one or pay the 600 to get a replacement.
Since I received no help I decided to go to my lawyer who drafted a nice email explaining the situation and to help with something that their own tech support in who knows what country broke. I then get an email in response to this saying they can't help. I asked why they aren't communicating with my lawyer, but never get an answer to that. Just the same answer saying, "WE WILL NOT HELP YOU!" When I spoke to my lawyer about this, he said the reason I am getting this is because they sent it to a normal customer service rep that follows the same guidelines and answers everyone else has.
Microsoft, you have lost me as a customer and everyone I speak to will hear what I have to say, I have the proof in all the emails you sent me and my damaged 3K laptop that I never got to use! I feel unappreciated and definitely taken advantage of. I will also post this on every forum and every social media so no one goes through what a lot of people have gone through by reading reviews!
Here is a snippet of the last email they sent me. **
Basically, this says it could have been an update (which how is that my fault?), a piece of software installed (which there wasn't, it was the same way it came from factory) and that I have to use this at my own risk. It also says sometimes extensions are given but not for years..... Well I called 2 months after my warranty expired but somehow they have no record of that lol. How convenient! BEWARE EVERYONE!

When I tried to exchange the broken product for a fixed one, I was told to simply place a new order and receive a refund on the first order to get the replacement product in 2-3 days. I did this, and was then told (AFTER I paid ANOTHER $3000+) that my replacement wouldn't deliver for another four weeks--even though the broken one delivered in 2 days, and I was expressly told that the replacement would deliver in 2-3 days.
When I called customer service, they told me that their warehouse is only full of broken, already-returned devices, and that they don't have any functioning devices to ship. Note that this product was only released less than 2 weeks ago, so I assume my experience is not unique. When I said that answer was unsatisfactory given what I had been told by the previous customer service representative, I was told that the person I was speaking with *didn't have a supervisor* and that *no one else* worked in the customer service department of the entire Microsoft Corporation.
I've canceled both orders now to have my entire ~$7000 refunded. I will update this review if I'm given any more trouble on getting my money back. I won't be purchasing a Microsoft product ever again. While I've been a lifelong customer so far, resisting the allure of the (much cheaper) Apple products, I will now be making a total switch. The nightmare I began went on for 2 hours. Receiving passcodes, signing in for authentication, getting another passcode, being told I was already signed in, to being told my password was wrong. And we went around and around and around. So I went to get help. OH MY GOD!! You would have thought I was trying to get through to the president. Once I get to them, they immediately want to climb aboard. NO, I have too many Social security numbers and private information from my clients. I have not a clue where who and what would be signing on, and you know you never know if they remain. Then they want me to reset my password. WHY?? it works every day? In fact, I was signed into my Microsoft account.
Then finally the rep disconnected from the chat after I waited 25 minutes for him to arrive. I have been a PC girl since the 1980s, but I hate all of the Microsoft products. I wanted to like them but today proved my point. Horrible customer service, if you can get them! Products that don't work as promised, still to this day, but they beg me every day to make them my default. My mistake, I should have known better. But I will remember today for a very very long time. Google is Superior!!!

Long story short my son's Xbox Account was hacked and the person used my credit card on file to purchase a GTA shark card and gifted it to themselves on their account. When I contacted Microsoft about getting my $100 refunded the representative on live chat assured me it could be resolved and I had to submit a claim. Ok, great! No problem. Submitted the claim and got an automatic email back saying because of the type of item purchased, it's non refundable. Ok, NOT ACCEPTABLE. I replied to the email asking for a supervisor to contact me... no reply. I chatted with another online agent who told me to try again, so I filed a claim and same thing happened. I responded to the email 3 or 4 times just to get back another automatic response that said the case was closed.
I have emailed no less than 14 times with no results. I took to Twitter and was messaging with a customer service team who basically said it's another department that handles it and they can't help that I need to reply to the email and ask for it to be reviewed again. It's been over a week with no results. I filed a dispute with my credit card company but there is no guarantee that I can get my money back that way either. I feel defeated. I don't have an extra $100 laying around to just throw away like that, especially when we did not make the purchase or authorize the purchase. Cards have been removed from the account and passwords have been changed. I know the account name of the hacker since they gifted it to themselves and it showed up in my email, but yet Microsoft is unwilling to do anything for me.

For a company charging the consumers $400 + a gaming system you should have a live person available in your CS departments. The recovery process should not be so difficult and the forms should be reviewed by a person not by an automated service.

Today I was notified that my Hotmail account was compromised and hacked along with someone tried to log into my Yahoo, Facebook, and Gmail accounts. I was successfully able to change the passwords to all accounts except my Hotmail account in which I have not used in over 5 years which of course means I have forgotten all answers to security questions and passwords. I reached out to customer service today via chat and was connected unfortunately with a chat representative by the name of Lois **.
At first she was nice and professional but continued to repeat herself as to telling me the same thing over again of how to log in. I explained that I had tried the different options already but did not mind trying again for her. She proceeded to tell me that there was nothing else that she could do since the account WAS NOT COMPROMISED and that I was the only one to make changes to the account that there was nothing more that she could do.
At this point... RED FLAGS went up because I'm like wait what CHANGES... because I have not made any changes and I have no way of accessing this account. I proceeded to tell her this and she she tells me that since there was nothing else that she could do then would I consider saying that she had addressed the issue and end the chat. I told her no because she did not help me and that I felt that she had no idea what she was doing. Lois Evans then states that "This wouldn't have happened if I had set security questions." At this point I'm infuriated. What customer service chat representative tells a customer this? She then sends that message for me to create a new account and this time create security questions.
I asked for this issue to be escalated and she tells me that there is no way for this to be escalated and that there is no one in the microsoft company that can help me at this point. BULL CRAP!! If this is what customer service is like at MICROSOFT then they definitely do not need to be in business. To treat a customer who is a victim of potential identity theft in such a distasteful and ugly manner is unacceptable and should not be tolerated at all! I am highly upset and will no longer be a microsoft customer going forward. I will bring awareness every day to this issue until something is done about it!

Don’t ever buy or purchase Microsoft products, stay as far away as possible. Microsoft locked my email account, then told me I could access the account after 30 days. I waited 30 days and then it didn’t work still!! Spoke to microsoft for almost 6 weeks straight and all they did was continue to make me fill out forms and then ignore me, or send me in circles and never solved the problem. They're favorite thing to do was "transfer me to a different department" but then nobody would ever connect with me. Now they told me to fill out a account reinstatement form and the lady told me I would be able to access my account after two days. Now two days later I’m here on the chat again and microsoft won’t even answer me about the lies they told me about accessing my account after waiting so many days.
Microsoft didn't help me one bit, and then just ended our chat without actually helping me because again they're pushing me aside to avoid the problem they caused here! I purchased a Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 in March 2020, as soon as the pandemic shutdowns were announced in NYC and I knew I would need to work from home every day. I ordered directly from the Microsoft store online and paid $1250. As soon as I received the computer, I wasn't able to use it when it wasn't plugged in. It would only last max 3 minutes unplugged. A quick google search and you'll see this is a known issue with Surface Laptops. Microsoft just doesn't care and sells expensive laptops with that issue! Cool. I would have gotten a desktop if it had to always be plugged in...
When I called in the beginning, everyone was useless on the phone. In the summer though, I started having much worse issues. My laptop started going into a crazy blue screen all the time. I would be in the middle of important work meetings and my computer would just randomly crash. Sometimes it would come back in 10 minutes and sometimes it would take the whole day. I called and called and called. Troubleshooting was a joke and no one fixed anything. I also had to wait on hold for multiple hours each time. I got someone on the chat feature who told me that they would honor a return for me when their stores reopened. I even took a screenshot of that.
Months later in the fall, clear that their stores are not reopening anytime soon (even though Apple is opened). So I started calling again. The blue screen craziness started getting worse and more frequent too. They told me that they would not honor that and could care less that I had a screenshot of someone telling me they would. They would only do an exchange (because I have so much faith in Microsoft computers at this point...). I lost a call with the person who was processing this for me. He had all my contact information and just never called me back! I had been on the phone with them literally all day and the hold times were multiple hours. Just no call back.
Now it's December and my computer has completely hit the bed. The blue screen happened and wouldn't come back for days (luckily it was a weekend!). It finally turned back on but all my stuff was gone! My computer must have reset. I had some seriously important documents that are not lost forever because Microsoft. So now here I am calling them again demanding they send me a new functioning computer (although I should be getting a return). Again, I lost a call with someone who I had been on with forever and he just never called me back. I even told him about my prior experiences with that.
I am on now with some lady who sounds like she is 14 years old. Very nice but clearly has no idea what she is doing but reading off certain prompts. I asked to speak to a manager and waited forever before I just let that go. I have been on with them since am and it's 10:30am. They will process an exchange but now I have to add my credit card information to my Microsoft account for them to process the exchange. If the broken computer that they sold to me at full price gets back to them OK, then the hold on the credit card gets removed (supposedly). This is the worst experience I have ever had and I will never recommend anyone get a Microsoft computer. I already talked to my IT team at work who was considered them for a company purchase (they're getting Dells now!). DO NOT PURCHASE FROM MICROSOFT. Their computers are terrible quality & overpriced and their customer service & troubleshooting is atrocious.

Over the course of time, they agreed to replace my S-Book with another one. It was a refurbished one. Now a quote from a MS Support tech is this "refurbished it means that has been repaired due to a malfunction". So while I was not thrilled, I agreed to it. I took it to the Nashville MS Store and they swapped it out. When I received the Refurb, I asked the person if the overheating was corrected. He stated "We think so". That is a literal quote.
Now today, here I am with the refurb overheating, the case is distended and I do not feel safe with the unit. From the support tech I spoke with today "I understand that you may be very concerned about this situation. We take this incidents very serious and I want to let you know there is no inherent risk or safety concern associated with these expanded batteries, the lithium ion batteries used in surface devices contain material that can injure skin, eyes, and lungs only if the battery is punctured. However, we recommend to our customers not continue using a device with an expanded battery". Can it explode? Cause a fire? I use this for work and I cannot stop using it. I will be shutting it down every time I am away from my desk now because I do not need a fire in the house.
I spent $2481.36 on this in Feb 2016. Only 4.5 years later I need a new machine. MS solution? Sell me a used Surface Book from their lab for only $599 plus taxes. Unbelievable. I expect a laptop to last a lot longer than this and in reality, this is the second laptop so they averaged 2.25 years of life. That is pathetic. I had used DELL for years prior to the MS book and never had an issue like this. I also found that when there was an issue Dell stood behind their products. (We used them at work with over 500 employees so there were a few times I had to call support though we have now switched to Lenovo, who also stands behind their product). With all this, I do not recommend purchasing a Surface Book. I understand that products fail, but if you do not stand behind a $2500 purchase, I will look elsewhere.

This is my second review if you read my first review on how I am unable to access my office subscription. It's day 4 and I am unable to work because I still cannot access my subscription to Office. A supervisor tried to call me back 4 times and every time she was disconnected from my call and the connection was so bad that I could barely hear her.
After I called the Customer Service Team back they told me that the reason the connection was so bad is because they are all calling from their homes and they try to conference in a supervisor from their home and the connection is not that strong in India. At one point prior to that I asked a customer service agent where they were located because the connection was so bad and they got angry and said they were in Arizona. I wondered if that was really true because of the connection was so bad and I realized that they all had an Indian accent...and I say that because whenever I call a customer service in another country I love talking to them about their country.
It's not that I'm being disrespectful, I truly wonder about their transparency and why they would lie to me, it was obvious that microsoft customer service agents were told to lie to me... WOW all this trouble just because I renewed my subscription!!! In reading all other reviews, I noticed that they are very happy with Microsoft's antivirus and that's great but this is not what I purchased. And microsoft is the only company that has the market on Office so every household in the world that has a computer has to use it...Shame on Gates!!
Original Review: The worst experience ever! I had renewed my subscription to Microsoft Office and when I went to access it, I had major issues. It asked me for a two step verification and it sent me the code via text but when it asked me for the email verification code I could not get it because I could not receive the email, it wasn't sending me an email....
So, I called support and even the support team after getting control of my laptop tried several times to send me the email and finally it said I tried verification too many times and I would have to wait until the next day to access it. So, I tried the day after and the same thing happened and not one support team member could hep me. Right now I'm waiting on the phone for a supervisor and the connection is bad, I can't hear the Supervisor.
I have not been able to work for three days because I can't access word on my laptop. It's very frustrating..And THEY have an attitude!! So after explaining my situation to a supervisor they disconnected me..They called back and the connection was so bad they tried calling me back 4 times and every time the connection was so bad I couldn't understand them. By the time he finished the process there were no console. I have been calling them, email them and no refund. They are holding my money hostage and I ended up by the console from Amazon. Never again. The worse company ever.

I sent my Surface Pro 6 in to get a hinge fixed. This isnt the first time I've sent a Surface Pro in the first time being a shattered screen which the computer was replaced. I was understanding of that due to how bad the screen was but for the hinge only a tiny thing needed to be fixed but the computer was replaced without even the consideration of transferring the data. The computer was working just fine and if I had known that they would be lazy and just replace the computer without even transferring the data I would have kept the computer and not bothered. This company cares more about the money than the actual customers and unless you like constantly transferring data yourself don't go with this company when it comes with repairs. If the computer works fine don't bring it in because it will just be replaced.
