I've had this program for years, but the main thing that makes it useful - being able to download and track transactions from your bank accounts - has devolved into essentially non-functional. I have three accounts at Wells Fargo, and Quicken simply will not consistently connect to them. I constantly have to reset and sometimes deactivate to re-establish them, and all three never work at once. Recently, Quicken also lost the ability to updated my Capital One 360 account. It always asks for a password it then will not accept. It's amazing this problem has not been resolved, but I have wasted absurd amounts of time on a program that's supposed to save me time. It's time to go somewhere else. Any suggestions?

Bottom line, Quicken 2017 is a broken product. It is constantly resetting and losing data, claiming data was downloaded when it was not, changing names of accounts, LOSING INFORMATION. Avoid at all costs. Quicken was a good product but they must of hired incompetent developers and the product at this point is fundamentally flawed. I have emailed multiple times to support how I can get a refund and have yet to receive even an acknowledgment of my request.

Serious problems with functioning of the product, and even worse now that the Intuit (makers of Quickbooks) sold off this brand of products. The product does not download my business bank entries like it did before. There has also been problems with categorizing entries. Customer service is poor. When I tried to get help they talked me into a $199 service agreement that was demanded or they would not help with the problem. A couple of months later I got a call from someone who said they were with Quicken and knew about the service policy, stating they were having difficulty downloading an update to their customers. That appears to have been a scam because the phone number I asked for was not in service. Had I seen so many negative reviews on this website, I would never have continued with this company.

Look harder for alternatives to Quicken - I am. I didn't read any of the reviews on here until after I had bought 2017. I've used it for almost 20 years now and regret it more each year. As many have already said on here, you are forced to submit a lot of personal information to Intuit just to open the program. Not acceptable. There are constant hassles with downloading information, transferring information, categorizing information. It's time to break their stranglehold on finances just like with Microsoft for operating systems and office software. They are far too deep into our information which could be acceptable except that it is only making the program slower and less effective. Good luck.

Quicken 2017 Deluxe - I purchased this at Staples. When I installed it, the program said it was saving my files. I had saved a copy myself, but the Quicken program overwrote my GOOD file and the file they saved was no good--it was missing MOST of 2017. No help from Quicken, though they did try. The last update I had was in February, so it was my fault I didn't back things up sooner. I had to import that file and lose much of my data. After I updated what I could by hand, I saw a duplicate and tried to delete the transaction. It deleted the transaction that was ABOVE the one I wanted to delete. Quicken had me run an update. It had an error. They said to try again in a few days. The program is FULL of bugs and I don't DARE try using the online banking feature, let alone the mobile app.
OH ONE MORE THING. When I had to sign in, it wouldn't take my password and when I clicked "Forgot password" it asked questions like, "What was the amount of your last deposit into your checking account?" The next question was, "What was the last amount you paid on your credit card account?" WHY do they KNOW this information? Are they keeping track of your money? I DO NOT LIKE THIS NEW QUICKEN and if I find another program similar to it that does NOT have online banking, I WILL switch.

Just upgraded to Quicken H&B 2017 since we are kind of forced to if we want to continue to be able to download transactions which is essential for using Q efficiently. Have been user since 1995. With this upgrade, we are forced to log in into Intuit. Don't like that at all. Number One: Privacy Issues - I don't want Intuit to know about my finances. Number Two: Intuit log in on the blink. It is forcing me to log in with my email/PW before Automatic Update will function. Well, it's not logging in after multiple tries. Keeps saying - "It's not your fault, it's on our end." Well I have work to do so I tried manually downloading from banking site. When tried to import, the Intuit login screen comes up anyway. There's no go-around! This is very bad. This is OUR info, NOT INTUIT'S!!! BAD BUG!!! Must fix ASAP!!!

I have always tried to use Quicken in a standalone mode on my personal PC to track and manage my finances. I have never used, or wanted to use, the additional financial services provided by Quicken. However, since the 2014 update, Quicken requires you to log into Intuit for all transactions, such as downloading your transactions from a bank. Customer service says this is for verification purposes only, but it is even required if I download the web, connect file to my PC and then try to import it. There is no network security issue here, and I should be able to do it without logging into Intuit.
What bothers me is the privacy agreement which states: "The type of information we collect may depend on the Quicken features you use and may include:... payment and financial data; information that includes third party content and functionality... Quicken is a personal financial management service that can automatically download financial information, such as current account balances and transactions. To provide you with this service, we may need to access your online financial accounts. Also note where your data may be located. The data we process may be transferred to, stored, and processed in, the United States or any other country in which Quicken or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers maintain operations."
To me this means that if someone in another country comprises my data, I may not have any recourse for compensation. With Quicken, I thought I was buying a standalone product for my PC, but apparently now it is a network product that insists on moving my information out of my home and into the network. That is not what I am looking for.

Upgraded to the new 2017 version since I was having trouble updating my bank accounts and all I can say is hold off as long as possible. Having more issues than ever. Been a very long time user of Quicken but this latest upgrade is terrible. I'm having to try and reset my accounts and this only works half the time. Minor issue is the graphics are very generic, but I could live with this as long as the program works. See the attached picture, doesn't even fill in the blanks on the failed reset message. SAD, wish there was another product I could buy. Lack of true competition is making Intuit's Quicken programs sloppy and we users pay the price!

Quicken is killing me. Like many making these posts, I have been a long time user of Quicken... decades. I have kept the tool functional, as I have valued historical reporting. Unfortunately, I have now run into a situation where online updates are failing in several of my banks and accounts. It all started last Friday. If I try to deactivate an account, it will not reactivate, due to some internal quicken error. They must have fun with the message "It's not your fault", but that is not helping me. I've been on 3 very long calls with reps who have had me upload log files, still have no clear answer as to what the issue is. Something happened last week and they still have yet to fess up to their crime. Personally I think they put a "time bomb" of sorts to "force people to upgrade".

DO NOT BUY THEIR product until their issues are fixed. They do not connect with Wells Fargo or Chase or credit cards to do computers issues. This has been going on for 6 months. PLEASE. Quit making so many upgrades that your own technology cannot keep up. It is all manual uploading of files, keeping log of dates so you don't duplicated transactions. Might as well just enter them manually every month. It's easier. IT SUCKS, and I have been using it for 14 years. They should have kept it simple.

I have been using Quicken since 2001 and upgraded a few times. The last one I bought was 2014 and had it on one laptop that crashed so I downloaded it onto another laptop and transferred all my backed up files from each successive year to my current laptop. I did not really like 2014 prior to my moving my files due to the fact that the screen seemed to roll after each transaction and my sound was not working. However other than that I was satisfied. Shortly after moving the 2014 to my new laptop, I began to experience opening problems and would have to go to the actual app on the start page of Windows 8.1 to open it, and sometimes was getting an error upon trying to open using the desktop shortcut, as if the program could not be found. I knew that in April of 2017 Quicken would need to be updated again in order to be able to download the transactions from my bank and credit card companies.
It had been a few months since I attempted to open it as I don't do my balancing monthly... yet I went ahead and bought a copy of the new 2017 Quicken program when it went on sale. So today I was going to download the new program when I opened my laptop and did not see the Quicken icon on my desktop. Now that I think of it, it's not been there for a while but I did not need it so I just didn't really notice. Upon a quick search I found the icon was not on the start up page, and when I looked in all programs it was not listed in the programs. I did a search on my computer and found it was not in program files either. The only place anything concerning Quicken was at, was in my documents where my backup files are located and when I attempted to open those files my computer asked me what program I wanted to open with.
I'm about to attempt to reinstall 2014 from the disc to see if I can even access the backup files. If not... I'm in a world of hurt. At the moment it's attempting to download updates and taking too long... reminding me that I have had to do this a couple months ago just to get Quicken to open, and it did not ever finish the updates I had to just open without finishing. Just now I attempted to open a backup file and it crashed it and the error report also failed to send. I'm about to attempt to reinstall and hoping the updates will finish and I can then install 2017. After reading some of the other reviews, I'm not expecting a good outcome!!!

Like many others, I've used Quicken for many years. Now it crashes frequently. Most of the time I can simply re-open it and go about my business. This week, however, I have encountered what appears to be an unrecoverable error. I cannot use my saved reports without a crash. I've reinstalled, reset, and done everything I can think of and read about in the community support site. Waiting an hour on line for tech support only to have someone sing-song me through the same scripts I read online is simply unacceptable. Once I recover my data, I'm going to look for another program. Quicken 2017 is a disaster. BTW, I purchased the product directly through Quicken/Intuit.

I've been using Quicken in general for many years and I have saved all the transactions since 1997 since I like to be able to research issues in my life based on prior activity. I'm surprised that the program has been able to retain all these transactions. I have just added all the transactions in all the accounts and came up with about 40 k in transactions alone. I don't if there is complexity that varies in all the different account types that complicate that total. All I know is that it represents my personal information (and a three year duration of a small business) without ANY trimming over that time.
I haven't had many of the severe errors or problems that I see written at this site, but I have had a couple that I will relate. The most worrisome came happened several years ago when it appeared that ALL my transactions and or the entire file had been compromised in some way so that I couldn't go on until I solved the problem and integrity of the numbers (balancing of accounts).
The program Quicken couldn't download transactions from the bank and make me secure in the belief that the data is accurate. I tried several ways of moving my data from the source file to another NEW file so I could be sure that the database was simply accurate and not scrambled. There was no tools that would simply and completely export the transactions (accurately) and allow for the importing into another new fresh file.
Somehow I came across the answer, or just an attempt to try anything. I tried the VALIDATE file operation. And It worked! Believe it or no, that was the answer. All the transactions worked as they were supposed to and the processes were correct too. I had no further problem after that point. I now do a process every so often when I either reach a plateau of activity or the new data that I'm going to enter is particularly unique or even when I'm going to start changing the text in many transactions significantly and I want to protect the existing transactions from irrevocable harm. That process is to COPY the current file to a physical new file and append the name with a progressive suffix so that the naming will be obvious. Part of that action includes doing the VALIDATE action once in a while and constant backups. This process may solve some people's file problems, but I can't be sure of how many.

Have been with Quicken since 2001, recently upgraded to Quicken Deluxe 2017. Since then problems have arisen with Capital One and Discover accounts. Transactions are not downloaded. Web connect no longer works, deactivated and re activated both accounts. Reset accounts. No results. Contacted both the banks and Quicken help. No resolution. This has been going on for over two months. Not happy. Will no longer recommend Quicken.

I have used Quicken since 1994. When the ability to download accounts from banks became available this was great. Unfortunately, Quicken has to provide an "update" every year in order to make money. These updates have made Quicken completely unusable. Quicken has NO live support as I know of. Now someone could make a lot of money to provide a replacement for this terrible company. I will be your first customer.

Like everyone else, I discovered that Quicken is not what it was when Intuit owned it. Tech support is a JOKE (and it used to be so good) and may folks end up with 3rd party hustlers: "Vincent" of VA, I share your pain. I too was charge $400 for support that did not fix my problem - and made it worse. Stay clear of "Boomerang Tech Services". They are a SCAM! I also "upgraded" from Q2015 to Q2017 - HUGE MISTAKE! Fortunately I had saved copies of my last Q2015 file and I still had my Q2015 CD. I deleted Q2017 and its file and reloaded Quicken 2015 (and started a whole new file. It was a PITA but I was able to reconnect to my financial institutions and download what I needed from them. I am doing just fine with my "old" Quicken Deluxe 2015 - and a brand new clean data file.

I have been a user of Quicken for almost 20 years. Each year the usability of Quicken has significantly deteriorated making the product more difficult and time-consuming to use. After loading the 2017 version I am now 100% feed up with Quicken and looking for a replacement software so, I can immediately unload Quicken. If you never used Quicken, my recommendation to avoid a great deal of frustration, is to avoid Quicken at all cost. I have spent hours with Quicken Level 1 and Level 2 support teams and their knowledge of the banking and investment industry is at a 7th Grade level. Their knowledge of QUICKEN is even less. I cannot even imagine what quicken will be like in 2018.

I upgraded to Quicken 2016 late last year to my everlasting regret. To summarize my situation as of today: 1. I can no longer open the program on my desktop computer running Windows 7. 2. I had already lost 90% of my transactions going back at least to 2013. 3. #1 above occurred after I "upgraded" the program with the latest software revisions, hoping to recover my missing data.
I am looking for an alternative program with 2 major requirements, as I am an independent contractor and need to be able to split my monthly credit card statement into different categories, separating tax related from personal expenses. My other major requirement is to have the ability to print a tax report after each year end.

QuickenBillPay.com has become an annoyance. My password is reset and I'm locked out almost weekly as I get errors when using Quicken software after doing updates. I called Annie today in customer service; I've done this 4 times this month to reset my password. I confirmed the security questions, as it's under my husband's name. I've reset this myself many times, Annie refused to without my husband. After asking for a supervisor and threatening to cancel and getting very angry with her, she hung up and magically my password reset and I could login. It's unbelievable that I have to yell to get customer service to do what is asked. If I answer all security questions, as I have many times in the past, they should reset it immediately. Horrible customer service.

Quicken Deluxe continues to fail regularly when trying to download banking information (whether One Step Update, or individual update per account). I used the popular option to get bank info downloaded to Quicken, via Quicken configs, called Express Web Connect. Up to Quicken 2015 at some point, it worked fine 85% of the time.
Quicken 2016 was purchased last year, to try and fix the issue when it wouldn't go away at some point (had tried every workaround - including dropping accounts out of Express Web/One Step Update & putting back in, and changing bank passwords and changing Quicken account passwords, and changing Vault password, etc...all the typical Customer Support efforts). At one point I was told the database group would have to look at my uploaded configs/file so they could figure it out. Nice eh? Send strangers who sell software everything about you without already feeling to good about them! The software worked for months, then again it began the hours of failure and trying to download successfully bank information/transactions. Cannot tell you the number of endless hours over the past 8 months we've spent just trying to get simple transaction downloads to happen when requested from Quicken.
We went to Quicken 2017 recently, to see if it would fix the problem (after hours and hours of trying to fix it, two weeks in a row), and it still happens. I find myself trying workarounds (like downloading the transactions from the bank's manual download section, one at a time, or trying Once Step Update 4 or 5 times and crossing my fingers, etc.), but Quicken has exhausted me. Very tired of this, I cannot recommend this product to anybody. I use one of the largest banks around, readily recognized by Quicken, but Quicken fails waaay TOO MANY times. We've come to hate doing our billing/budgeting because of Quicken. Anybody have a better known product for a home user?

I recently purchased Quicken 2017. After installation, I was asked to sign in which I did. However, each time I opened a new account I was asked to sign in again and again. I don't want to sign in. I don't want Quicken to monitor me or to have access to my information. I certainly don't want Quicken snooping around or monitoring my activity. If I can find another program that is not so invasive, I will purchase it at any price.
I've been with Quicken since 1985 that's 32 years. As they have added more features, they have made their product more complex with features that are forced upon the user even if you buy the simplest version. I'm not saying that some people can't use these new features but many people don't need Quicken's extra features. Add to that fact that Quicken makes you sign in all the time and the annoyance factor is no longer bearable. But maybe things will change now that H.I.G. Capital purchased Quicken. We all know how important the UX (User Experience) is to capital investors!

I have been using Quicken for Windows since about 1989 and have upgraded regularly as new versions became available. Quicken 2017 upgrade has been a frustrating experience. I have 5 different Quicken files as I manage multiple investing accounts for family members. The GUI and display has changed to a poor quality pixelated image (see attached image) that is uncomfortable to use and it is not my monitor. Fonts are NOT clear...expect a headache and eye strain. The necessity to sign in to the Quicken online portal is absurd. Another password and sign in for WHAT! I got locked out twice and had to reset passwords. That is ridiculous.
Accepting downloaded transactions from my brokerage firm takes 5-10 seconds for each transaction and response to keyboard and mouse input seems to hang at times. The software code is obviously bloated and poorly constructed. I am no computer novice...I always stay updated as I buy new high end hardware every 2 years. I am actively looking for alternative software and intend to scrap Quicken...after more than 20 years of being a satisfied customer. I would scrap Windows too if a decent Apple financial management application became available. I have recommended Quicken in the past but now only can advise people to AVOID buying it. The frustration is not worth the hassle.

The rep. I spoke with did not know the answer and only insisted on having my personal info so she could connect to my computer, which I refused to do. I have been a user of Quicken since 2003 and have overall been extremely satisfied with how well it works to keep my business expenses clear and to be able to download and categorize transactions. I am now using Quicken 2016 and discovered a couple days ago that I was unable to do an online backup of my Quicken files. I called the Quicken support number and they looked at my computer using remote access and told me there were numerous errors in my file and that I could entirely lose all my information unless I had it fixed. This was in spite of the fact that I regularly have been doing online backups to their cloud and paying for the service.
They offered me three different tech support options, a three-year option for $400 and two other longer options. The three-year option included getting an updated version of Quicken each year for the next three years plus TurboTax. Because I am so dependent on Quicken for keeping track of business expenses, I reluctantly paid $400 for the three-year service agreement.
The service that followed to try to fix my problem has been horrible. On Friday from around 12 noon till around 7 PM they had remote access to my computer. Whenever I checked with them to find out what's going on I was usually glibly told "Everything is fine sir. We should be done in another hour." Often when I checked the computer, it seem to be locked into some scenario that wasn't moving or going anywhere such as saying that it was checking for updates and it was still doing the same checking hours later.
Finally they told me to call back on Saturday and they would fix the problem. I was working 24 hours Saturday but I left the computer on and they told me that everything was good to go all I had to do was log into my account and then I would be able to back up my information and everything was done. They told me they could not do this for me because they are not allowed to handle my username or password. They told me to call them Sunday when they are also open and I could complete the process with them then and it would not take more than 45 minutes.
Today is Sunday, and when I called them I spoke to a service technician who told me that they were updating Windows and to call back on Monday. I told them that that was not the case and my computer was not updating Windows. I could tell from looking at the screen. I told him that I was told something different the day before. He was not helpful and spoke very poor English and acted like what I was saying was wrong and I was misinformed.
I then asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor then told me something entirely different. He told me I had to call back Monday because the database team would work on my problem. None of the people there seem sympathetic to the fact that I was told a lot of contradictory information and that I haven't been able to use my computer for the last approximately 48 hours or so. Some of the people that you interact with there speak an almost unintelligible form of English. They do not seem to be on top of my problem and seem to just give me scripted speech here and there to just put me off and maybe push the problem off to somebody else. Very disappointing. Maybe I need to start looking at an alternative software program.

Fonts look like something from a cartoon and columns that were fine in the previous version are badly mis-sized. Worse, it corrupted all my Quicken bill-pay records. Finally, it showed huge negative balances in many of my accounts. After reviewing other users' experiences with this update, I did not bother to contact Quicken support. I gave up on Quicken, cancelled Quicken Bill Pay, and switched to a free web-based bill pay provider from another financial institution. If you have never used Quicken, DON'T START. As an user of Quicken for over 20 years and using various updated versions I was thoroughly disappointed in the updating process from 2014 to 2017. The experience revealed that this new private company does not have best practices in development and integration of this new release. After numerous phone to resolve the over 1000 records lost when updating to the new version and the responses I received from support staff I returned the product. Here in summary are the errors:
Asked why records with category of "transfer" were discarded from processing to new version. I was told that this category could not be used for PC-based only in the Cloud. Why? Then why not tell buyer some of these changes and have a means to address? I sensed I was an end user helping them develop the product. Then called another day to find if there was a way to get those transactions into 2017 without erroring and was told reenter them into the new version. What? Over a 1000 transactions to work back into the product. What kind of support and development talent does this company have? Requested them to see if a different file format could be use that would bypass the system and was told a file format that was unusable.
Comment: Anyone upgrading to new version do a backup of old version before entering the twilight zone of Quicken support. A company with great product and now in the hands of a grossly negligent development process to a new version is beyond my comprehension. As one who worked in this industry for 33+ years and educator in information system development this is a great example of poorly developed, testing, and integration of software, and the worst is training of support personnel to resolve technical problems of clients. The nice courteous chat crap does nothing but further irritate one when sitting at a screen with a list of larger than one wants to consider with a response go change them as a solution. Why buy the software? Alternatives are available. They need more than a new CTO.

I have been a Quicken user for many many years and have loved the program. I upgraded to the 2017 version and it has been a total nightmare. When I merged the two programs, I got accounts that don't exist, lost information, and lost accounts. I live chatted with a person whose English was so bad I was totally confused. After some time of not being able to make sense what he was trying to tell me due to his English and grammar being so terrible, I apologized and asked if I could please speak to a person whose English was better than his. Eventually I got a supervisor (supposedly) and the same thing happened. He couldn't put a proper sentence together. After hours, he told me it was my bank's fault and I needed to call them.
In the time I was with him, I followed his directions, which in turn made me lose a lot of my backed up data. A few days later I called and this time I got someone who could speak my language, but due to the damage done by the previous chatter, he was unable to bring all of the data back. I was on the phone with him for well over 2 hours. I'm furious and now it's time to do my taxes and I can't find all of my data. Plus I've lost my years' past data. Who's going to get this fixed. GIVE IT A WIDE BERTH! I have been a Quicken user for many years, and many might be wondering why, since I'm posting this. Many of my earlier versions, while lacking all the present day features, worked flawlessly. Now it seems with all the added whistles & bells the beta testers have taken far too many lunch breaks! I made what I consider to be the last mistake with Quicken in 2015 to upgrade to the 2016 version after having been told that their banking connectivity issues had been resolved. Not so! For the last year I've struggled through every banking download session and web connect. The software constantly gives me error messages and I find the only way to download banking transactions is to edit & delete the individual accounts one at a time. Re-initialize each one & hope for the best. This is a royal pain when you have many accounts at one institution.
Now for the support side. Where is it? While the folks on the other end can certainly read a word track well, the sincerity just isn't there when you have to repeatedly call in to get a problem resolved. Frustrating to say the least when you're told your issue will be escalated only to find out they are just playing a big shell game in hopes of wearing you down. And you'll simply go away. I'll struggle on with this version until it's no longer supported. But in the meantime will keep an eye out for something more user-friendly & reliable!

Quicken 2017 software is confused. It did not let me start off where I left off. It showed all my transactions that had already cleared going back to 2015 or whenever I started. I had to fake it out by marking all past cleared items as cleared and then accept adjustment of over $2,000 to my account. I don't get it. Why didn't it start with my last reconciliation that was done on January 6, 2017? What is going on? I should have kept my old version and not paid for this 2017 junk. Surely, you have software engineers that can figure this nonsense out. And, you can't post complaints directly to Quicken. What a joke. They get your money and you can't get help or complain. When using Windows I could not wait to give them the money when a new version came out... that changed dramatically when I switched to the Mac version. In a word... just an awful representation of what used to be a terrific software. Uninformed technical support, program has limited functionality, bank downloads an absolute nightmare. I have logged countless hours on the phone with technical support trying to discover why my downloaded material never matches the bank website. Quicken points the finger at the bank and the bank points the finger at Quicken.
Level one technical support at Quicken is a complete conspiracy to take away time from your life you will never get back. Reports... entries do not show up in reports for without reason (and I am a weathered Quicken user with 27 years of experience). Once again Quicken blames it on the bank and the bank on Quicken. I agree with the reviewer that says Quicken is holding me hostage to the program. I have had it! He intentionally had messed up my computer and had left me with such a mess in my bookkeeping. I was charged approximately $460 for the upgrade. Right after that upgrade, I was told that and my computer has multiple tech issues. Of course the salesman had set it up by himself. He had left "many tech issues" including copy machine as well. My fax is not working since then. According to them as they had said. But actually my Quicken had worked fine until the upgrading attempt.
That upgrading must had taken at least 4-5 hours or even 6 hours for a few days, I remember. I had the three year warranty but actually that was a flawed services. Even today the company never fixed the issue. I had been left with flawed balance sheet page. Today I have decided to test if the Intuit - Quicken has corrected their flawed messy balance sheet. Guess what happened. To begin a new account, For instance depositing $10 should end up with $10. Correct? But the Intuit - Quicken has different math system. So the balance ends up with $10,862.25. Why? Because Intuit - Quicken has set up the troublesome tech mines in my balance sheet.
They are hoping me to call them back. So that I may get desperate, so that if or when I step back into my Intuit- Quicken balance sheet, I would have to call them for asking SOS rescue team. This is most likely one of the worst investments I have made not only of my money, but my time. I have Quicken 2014. It has had multiple problems with downloading accounts as well as importing transactions. The online chat customer support experience has been absolutely time consuming and unhelpful. The customer support rep I used just an hour ago asked me to download a particular browser so he could allegedly view my screen to help me. After almost an hour with this rep on chat trying to get all the necessary downloads for him to "help" me, the problem with Quicken was still not solved. In the process, my computer picked up a virus from his required downloads, that I then had to spend another hour or so on another chat getting the virus problem resolved with Geek Squad (who, by the way did their job superbly).
Prior to this experience I had spent 2.5 hours on a chat line with another agent trying to get my issues resolved. I did not pick up a virus on that chat session, but so far I am 3.5 hours into it with support and the problem is still not solved! I have not been able to use quicken effectively and am still stymied. I have tried unsuccessfully to set up an additional account. Each time I do, I get prompted to login to Intuit. Each time I try to log into the Intuit interface, I am with a message told that they are unable to process my request at this time. The message asks for me to try at another time as there are issues on their end. I have been trying for the past three days. I wonder how long it would take them to fix "their" issue! I suppose if I had the time and/or mindset to read the Quicken books, to scan through the endless online archives of user experiences I could get some good use out of the program. But who has that time?
I find it also ironic that the company calls itself Intuit. There is nothing intuitive about the current version of the program. I think the company is a scam and I would warn anyone away from this company and this program. You sell a person a software program, and then don't really provide support for it? If it were a free or near free download, I'd see the sense of that, but for a program costing in the hundred + range. I have spent so much time trying (and not succeeding) to get this program to work, that I have not been able to get to the work of actually taking care of my books, which I very much need to do! Is it back to old fashioned spread sheets for me? Quite possibly if I cannot get the endless loops of problems ironed out.

Well, then we proceeded to address the original problem, and the uploaded who knows what of my private or personal information to their computers (scary), but I have not a lot to hide.
So anyway, that is concerning to me but to go on, they wouldn't help us with the other problem, either without money, then they called us about 5 times and my husband finally answered and they addressed him regarding Microsoft issues then corrected themselves, back to Quicken. We suspect they also work with Microsoft. Then they said there was NOTHING that they could do even though we had just spent a lot of money to upgrade Quicken. And because we didn't want to pay anything that our conversation was pointless, and that THERE WAS NO HOPE OF US RESOLVING OUR PROBLEMS. I've used Quicken for 22 years - dating back to the days of diskettes. I enjoyed the product immensely and even credit Intuit with helping me understand personal finance. I had the original product installed for over six years before Intuit released transaction downloads. So I bought the 2001 version. By 2004 users received word from Intuit that we had to upgrade to continue using Quicken and the reason for the upgrade was because of change in file name and a change in how file types are handled. I made the upgrade with no hassle or concern, noting that the file extensions had indeed changed.
When 2007 rolled around, Intuit told us users the exact same thing - we have to upgrade. This time they left out the reasons, so I asked about it. Crickets... No explanation whatsoever. After looking into it a bit further, I found no material change between the 2004 version I had and the new 2007 version Intuit demands I upgrade to. When I called Intuit on this fact - again no answer. That's when I realized something was up, and if you're still reading this you probably know what came next...
In 2010, users on 2007 or earlier versions were required to upgrade. Intuit turned off the best of their online features to ensure that you comply. In 2013, users on 2010 or earlier versions were required to upgrade. Intuit turned off the best of their online features to ensure that you comply. Now in 2016, users on 2013 or earlier versions are required to upgrade. Intuit turned off my bank transaction downloads and a few other features to prod me just enough, so I capitulated. Wish I hadn't, but glad I didn't pay full retail.
Intuit realized a couple of things. 1) They, like most other software companies, cannot continue to support obsolete products. Generally there are 4 versions of Quicken, so if they were to commit themselves to supporting all previous products since 2000 they would have 64 different versions to provide troubleshooting and security patches. That's way too much. 2) Quicken dominates the market - particularly after Microsoft Money collapsed. So they have a customer base willing to pay for their wares. So they made a wise (for them) decision to only support 3 generations of products. If you want to continue using their product you have to pay up every 3 years. This is called a subscription. What makes this a different kind of subscription is that Intuit doesn't TELL you it is a subscription. It doesn't auto-renew either. But eventually, Intuit will move to an annual subscription I suspect.
As for Quicken 2016 - the finished product is not worth the price. Intuit as a rule does incremental improvements - nothing revolutionary. In this case, Quicken 2016 is actually a step BACKWARDS from Quicken 2013 or even 2015. This is because for some inexplicable reason, the features Intuit worked so hard on in previous releases either stop working in 2016, do not work well, or non-existent.
The much-talked-about sign-in feature is wholly unnecessary and in fact can be a bit scary for some of us who are security conscious about our financial data. Intuit seems to assume that because its users are technically-inclined that we trust them with full access to our records (where did they get that nonsense from?). From what I gather the sign-in is required to make Quicken Mobile work, which would be fine if A) it were optional and B) Quicken Mobile worked well. While I use Quicken Mobile, it isn't my go-to source. I really do not need access to all of my attachments and receipts while cruising at 30,000 feet.
What gets my goat the most about Quicken 2016 is that I had everything set up the way I liked in 2013. Not only did Quicken 2016 move those things around - upsetting my routine, but Intuit gave no option to move them back. Specifically - I have my attachments and notes on the left column under the date (2-line register) and next to the date on 1-line registers. Intuit moves the attachment next to the Payment amount on 1-line registers. There's no way to move it back or move around any columns for that matter.
Attachments themselves are no longer straightforward. Now if I want to add an attachment, I always get a tutorial/advertisement screen - which is pointless after the first time anyway and I have to manipulate it just to use my scanner. With the number of transactions I do, this makes for a colossal waste of time. Would I recommend Quicken 2016? For the first time user, yes - perhaps someone getting started in life. However, I would also recommend to try others before you try Quicken - you may find Quicken is too robust for your needs. For the seasoned Quicken user, don't upgrade to 2016 unless you absolutely have to. If you do not use bank downloads or Quicken Mobile, do not waste your time on this.

I had a problem with the software and contacted their support. They said I had been hacked and I needed to pay hundreds of dollars for them to fix the problem. I had not been hacked and solved the problem myself. Tonight after an upgrade I found my password locked and have been waiting for hours to reset it. Each time I get a message that I need to try back in 15 minutes. Doing so many times got no results. Now I am waiting on a chat session that says "Waiting for agent." I have been waiting for an hour. It is time to consider a class action suit against Quicken.

I just moved from Quicken Deluxe 2013 to Quicken Deluxe 2016, because on a few of my financial accounts, I like the convenience of downloading the transactions. Luckily I only do that on a very few, stock funds and online savings institutions, not on all my regular bank accounts and credit cards. A few issues that REALLY HAVE ME PISSED. I'd like to go to their HQ and personally impact myself upon their senior management!!!
How come they are always changing the format of the data files? It is bad enough having to keep upgrading to use certain features, but this is ridiculous. Microsoft, as bad as they are, kept the same file format for Word, Excel, Powerpoint starting with Office 97 and did not change that until Office 2007. That format is still good today, 9 years later.
This new requirement to enter an Intuit ID when setting up Quicken, apparently this is required for the Downloading Transactions, but it won't even let you open an existing Quicken data file in this new version if you don't have that, even if you do not plan to download. Then I was worried it might keep me from using Quicken when we are offline, but I just tested and luckily that is not the case. We often update our transactions manually when on trips, on our laptop, in either the car or RV, when we are not connected to the internet. If I found I had to be connected to even open Quicken, I would have rolled back to QD 2013 and lived with entering everything manually. It seems with each new version of Quicken, they make more and more STUPID decisions that alienate more and more people. QUICKEN/INTUIT, WAKE THE ** UP ALREADY!!!

I contacted Quicken and went through their chat program. The person on the chat line said the new update would resolve the problem and hung up on me. Forced Upgrade is the right word in referring to Intuit's Quicken program. I should NOT be required to upgrade at all in order to import a downloaded QFX file from my institution. I don't like to be FORCED to do anything. I paid for this software originally, upgraded when 2013 came out and since I still use Windows 7, I don't feel ANY NEED to upgrade. (I don't even like Windows trying to FORCE me into v. 10). I used to use Money until that was discontinued, and only added Quicken since I already used TurboTax. My first call I waited 45 minutes and was told they would send a link to reset my password and assured me that the problem would be resolved. Password was reset. Still not working, so my 2nd call another 45 minute wait, I was told they would send me a link for a upload to correct the problem. I downloaded it but still not accepting password or able to link to my bank account. This time I was given a work order case number in case there was a problem.
You guessed it not accepting my password, so I called back now a 1 hour and 45 minute wait, gave the customer service my case number and he immediately hung up on me. My 2015 Quicken was stuck on Release 4 instead of the current Release 11. I thought I would try Quicken support one more time to get this resolved. As a consequence, I have no Quicken. To keep the story short, they asked me to purchase the new Quicken with support for $200. After objecting, they lowered the price to $160. My instincts told me not to do this but I went ahead. They said they would not take my credit card until they got me fully up and running with Quicken 2016. They said it would take 15 to 20 minutes. I said yes. Three hours later my Quicken 2015 was gone and 2016 installed but not working.
The sign in with your Intuit ID and password would not work despite all their efforts. My guy said he would call me back the next day with a solution. Of course, he did not. Here's the part that is really interesting. I called and talked to a new person the next day. He told me I would have to pay $500 for support for three years. The $200 support for one year was only for Quicken help not PC help. The $500 would include PC and Quicken support. Of course, I told him he was wrong and this was not the arrangement that was made yesterday. After further discussions, we said good-bye with nothing resolved. He did tell me to call back and try and reach the guy that I talked to yesterday. Wow!

I wish I could speak to you directly and would take my concerns seriously. Time is the most important factor in business. Since I switched from QuickBooks Desktop to QBO, my work time to get jobs done, as a bookkeeper, has more than doubled. I wish I could get back to Desktop, but your reps are trained to say "We're working on a way to make that possible." They are saying this for 2 years now or more. That's frustrating to say the least. In regard to Quicken Canada: I don't know what it is, the security or malfunction of the program. The program is extremely slow. The program at times does not retain the bank passwords for the web downloading.
In both QBO and Quicken, at random, I could get a pop-up to enter a code you sent to my email. All this plus much much more is wasting my time. I wish you would revert back to the good old ways when things went smoothly, more than less. Otherwise it would be a sad thing to have to tell you goodbye, and find some good software elsewhere. Like most of the reviewers you see here I am a long time user of Quicken. The fact that in the past installs of new versions of Quicken were painless unlike 2016 has prompted me to write this review. I purchased the product on a disc and there were problems from square one. I won't bore you with all the grizzly details. There are two points I want to make with this review. 1.) This build was not ready for the marketplace. 2.) The support staff is overwhelmed and you as a customer will suffer the consequences.
Wait times for phone support are ridiculously long. When you finally get a person to talk to they may know little about the product. Evidently they are putting people into the Quicken support team with no experience using the product. This was evident to me after my next call. Hold off if you can before updating if you want to stay with the product at all. It will probably take a few months before things are straightened out. Intuit should be ashamed of themselves.

I have been getting reminders from Quicken/Intuit the past few weeks that I needed to upgrade from Version 2013 to Version 2016 in order to continue many of the features in Quicken. I finally bought a copy and installed it. However before the conversion was complete an ERROR message popped up, "Unexpected Error," and the whole process stopped. I tried it again... same result. When I tried to contact the Quicken Support it said there was at least a 70 minute wait for phone support or a 20 minute wait for chat support.
Finally I got a chat support going. Spent the next 4 hours with support trying to fix the problem -- reinstall, download from their website, etc. Finally they said best thing is just to start "fresh" with Quicken, meaning I would lose 20 years worth of data and history for my finances. I said that was not acceptable. I am very disappointed in the new version. I am hoping they will come out with some patches and fixes for this new version, as I have liked using Quicken. For now I will go back to Version 2013 on another computer without all the support they said I would lose. Fortunately I had a back-up.
I wish Intuit had done a better job of getting the bugs out of this product before they released it. No wonder their website said they are experiencing a high volume of calls for support. If I had read the many reviews on this site first, I would have thought twice about installing the new version. But I had no problems in the past with this product.

I have been using Quicken for over 10 years. The worst decision I made was to upgrade to 2016. Over the last 3 months I have had nothing but issues and honestly getting ready to find another product. Once you upgrade to 2016, it make you associate your account to an Intuit ID. It did not let me use my new email address to create a new ID (with my current information) because it said I already had an account on file. So I am forced to find my old user ID (that I created 10 years ago) and sign on, and it completes the upgrade to 2016. Then the genius developers at Intuit do not allow me to update my profile because I have to verify my identity and it wants to send an email to an address that no longer exists. So I was able to initially use quicken without having to use the Intuit ID.
Last month after an update, I was no longer able to automatically download bank transactions but it did let me download credit card transactions. So I found a workaround where I can create a quicken file from my online banking software, then import it manually into quicken. Now this morning, I received yet another Quicken update where I can no longer download or import any transactions without signing on with my Intuit ID.
Once I sign on, then it wants me to verify my identity using my old email that no longer exists. No options are given to verify identity other than calling their useless support where you have to wait 2 hours on hold only to be told that I will be emailed an online form within 48 hours. So now I am locked out for at least 48 hours before I can utilize this useless product that I bought. Sadly, they did not hesitate taking my money when I signed on using my "new" email address when I purchased the 2016 upgrade in the first place. Intuit has no understanding of customer service. Very disappointed.

I'm glad I never used the bank account downloads--especially now with all the problems people are reporting. The program installed without any problems but the problems started after that. Manual transactions (keyboard entries) were very slow to take effect. Even slower when you try to manually reconcile accounts. Regular crashes too. No attachment previews for transactions you entered. Just shows a pdf icon. Thank goodness I backed up all my data before trying this version.
Even did a clean install on an SSD drive with 16 GB ram and 3.4 GHZ machine--same results. This is truly a piece of garbage. From this software engineer to the software engineers at Intuit--you need to either rewrite the code or remove the years of old code you left in this product. It's time for you to find some serious programmers and customer service reps--and not from South Asia.

I have been using Quicken for many years. As result, I have a very nice trove of data to mine from for comparative reporting. And, after all, isn't that one of the benefits to managing your data with a computer? In the fall of 2015, I was having issues with my Quicken Essentials and contacted customer support. I don't even remember the issue; but, they informed me that they no longer support this product; and, to get support at all I would need to upgrade - so I did, now to Quicken for Mac 2015.
As I am preparing for taxes I've noticed three very big problems. First, one of my reports reflected a category total that just seemed off. I looked at the transactions in the category, and all the expected transactions were there but the total just looked off. I copied and pasted the data to Excel; and, sure enough, it didn't add correctly. I spent many hours with customer service. In the end, they had me re-enter each transaction in a newly created test category; and, they added up fine. Her recommended solution was to delete the previous transactions and use the new ones - she confirmed that we have not identified the problem and that it could be happening elsewhere. Problem #1: Quicken is now known to not add correctly.
This was so huge, I put it aside while working on cleaning up my year end reporting. I then found there were transactions missing; and, when I looked further, they were entered correctly; but, for some reason, they just didn't show up on the report. I assigned the same item to a different category, and it showed up fine. Problem #2: Quicken can inexplicably exclude correctly entered items from reporting.
Hoping a solution presents itself yet wanting to have all my problems solved in one call, I continued my work. Next, I found a very important deposit just wasn't showing up. After a bunch of checking, I realized it shows up on a reconciled bank statement. How, then, could it not be in my Quicken register? On a hunch, I checked my old Quicken Essentials; and, sure enough, it's there. Somehow, it simply dropped out in translation to Quicken 2015. Problem #3: Quicken arbitrarily excluded some data in the translation from the older unsupported version to the new version I just paid for, and I have no idea what data has been lost.
I should add, the original problem that had me call Quicken support in the fall was that bank data being uploaded has been subject to duplication or indiscriminate elimination, causing me to have to reconcile each month's statements line-by-line to make sure my Quicken data was correct. Problem #4: Quicken is not correctly handshaking with the bank.
As I sit here bemoaning the scope of my alternatives and the incredible amount of time it will take to recreate this work, I thought I'd check the internet to see if it's just me. Apparently, it's not. Quicken cannot reliably upload data from the bank, data entered may or may not be available in the future, reporting does not reliably recognize transactions, and it can't add. It is inconceivable that Intuit would be unaware of these issues before release, and unforgivable that they would knowingly impact customers in this manner.

This software forces me to enter an identity validation code every single time I use it. It has to send it via e-mail or text to my phone. I don't mind an occasional validation - that makes good sense, but every single time? I already have to use a password to initiate the process within Quicken, plus enter a password to even use Quicken. So I have to do that twice. How can this be a level of security? Wouldn't the person who is stealing my identity from my PC also have my email account on the same machine? If this is such an issue, don't store your bank online password within Quicken. If Quicken is that unsecure, perhaps it's time to change to another company.
Intuit won't allow you to send an email to complain. You have to call during west coast hours. And if you want to use their online chat, it ALWAYS says it is experiencing high volumes of support issues. Gee, I wonder why. I won't be doing their next forced upgrade purchase in 2018. Some banks will not download to Quicken 2016. The bank tells you it is a Quicken problem and Quicken doesn't say otherwise. Quicken makes it difficult to find customer support. You can get to a chat session with the least inconvenience but you will still be chatting with someone offshore who writes the same way they speak. If you search you will find support groups that write about a CC-5?? (I have forgotten the other numbers) that Intuit continually has issues with. From what I gather there may be another solution but Intuit doesn’t make it available.
When Quicken works well it is very nice to use. But if you have an issue you are on your own. They do not make it clear or easy to get in contact with their support people. If you can figure that one out it makes no difference if are lucky enough speak with someone, or enter into a chat session. It is near impossible to communicate with them and resolve your problem. I am going to be looking for other options to Quicken. While it is a good product when it works Intuit leaves you high and dry when it comes to support.

Quicken / Intuit is terrible. They force you into upgrading their product and then it does not work. Eventually they'll fix it but there is tremendous pain until it's done and not much benefit at all in terms of upgrade to the new product other than giving them additional fees. My Quicken 2013 worked fine after a year or so of 'bugs' but they said it wouldn't work after April '16 so I upgraded. Now I am in their upgrade hell until they can fix their system. NEVER EVER UPGRADE THEIR SYSTEM UNLESS FORCED TO and even then consider your other options (changing providers, moving to a new system, etc). Intuit has done this crap to me too many times.

I originally purchased Quicken when MS Money became too out of date and was no longer available. Aside from learning a new program, the software itself has not been too bad. However, the tech service is atrocious. In the fall of 2015, I was getting an error when opening the program. I called tech support and they had me reinstall the software but didn't tell me when I did it, I would lose all my data. Unfortunately, I had been saving backups to the same folder as the original Quicken data was located so when the tech told me to remove the old program, it removed my data as well.
At that time, I also had noticed my Intuit account was associated with an e-mail address that no longer existed. I requested my e-mail be updated which it was for about two months until two weeks ago when I went to do my weekly update and I could not access my account because it had reverted back to the old e-mail that does not exist. I spent several hours attempting to resolve this issue including 40 minutes online chat with tech support who simply had me go through everything I had already done that did not work. I finally have some time to contact them again and as I type this, I am on hold with both online chat and phone help desk. Currently, it's only been 10 minutes. This is so unacceptable. I hope I find another program that is better and will convert my data so I don't have to spend half my life trying to input the data all over again.

I'm very disappointed with Intuit and their continued hobbling of earlier versions of Quicken, specifically the disabling of downloading transactions from my financial institutions. This doesn't fall into the category of discontinued support because to leave the download functionality enabled means leaving the software alone. However disabling the functionality represents a deliberate effort to force customers to pay Intuit a ransom to upgrade. This is just plain disgusting. Last year Intuit degraded Turbo Tax and deleted forms that were available in past years, with the option to pay more to upgrade and get the forms back. Goodbye Intuit, It's time to move on.

Quicken has the nasty habit of forcing users to upgrade to a new release by removing feature/functionality in existing programs rendering the original program essentially useless for the intended purchase. This is different than announcing end-of-life support or support of an older release. Who cares if you don't support an older release when your support is the worst ever anyway.
Intuit recently advised that the 2013 version of Quicken could no longer be used to download financial info from financial institutions - a key feature for which this software is often purchased. I began using Quicken for the company that I worked for to easily track our income and expenses, and also used it for our own home/personal income and expenses. I upgraded Quicken, both at work and at home, about every two to three years. My employer passed away, but I continued using Quicken for our personal accounting. I had been running Quicken 2012 with great success, was able to download from our bank accounts, credit card account etc and have everything load into the correct categories that I had set up. Near the end of 2014, my bank notified me that I could no longer download into Q12 but just upgrade to Q15. I did. Since that date, not one downloaded transaction from my bank or credit card is logged into the correct categories that I have had set up for years.
Examples: We have a grocery store called Lowes Foods. We also have the big box store called Lowe's Home Improvement. In the Q12 I had these two accounts labeled as Lowes (grocery) and Lowes Home (improvement). Lowes (groceries) downloaded as groceries. Lowes Home downloaded as home improvement. Now, both of them download into Q15 as "dining"??? A Quicken upgrade should keep the settings that you have such as categories for downloads. Upgrading to Q15 required me to back up my accounts, which I did, then required me to delete Q12. Q15 loaded but it did not keep my prior settings. I am now being offered 40% off on an upgrade to Q16. I don't know what I'm going to do, but I am spending hours having to, after downloading manually correcting every category for the downloads.

I will NEVER buy another Quicken product again. To be fair I didn't upgrade Quicken from 2008 until October 2015. In my mind if a product is serviceable, why trade it in? At first I was frustrated because Quicken 2015 Starter Edition required a patch called the Mondo patch that needed to be installed in order to download. (Wouldn't it have been better for Intuit to have applied the patch before continuing to sell the product?) Subsequently, I have been chatted with tech support twice.
The last time was for an hour and a half about the fact that the backup account I pay for annually isn't working. The problem was not resolved. Yesterday I had to update my checking acct. password, which Quicken now won't recognize. Being reluctant to spend another hour and a half on a tech support chat, I've reached the conclusion that I'm better off to track my spending on an Excel spreadsheet. Intuit Merchant Center has refused to release funds to our business, even though our clients have paid on a timely basis. Right now, Intuit has held over $30,000 in client invoicing because there is some internal (non-legal) basis for withholding funds. The company asked to contact my clients, even though providing them with the information would be running afoul of every single attorney-client privilege ethical obligation that attorneys have. I've been on the phone for about 15 hours, without being able to talk to a single "live" person.
Intuit operates as a lender because although a client is charged by the credit card merchant company, VISA, Mastercard, etc. Intuit does not release the money to the firm doing the invoicing. They're collecting/making money off of interest without paying interest to the cardholder (client) or end user (firm using Merchant Center). Not only does this violate multiple federal and state regulations, but this means that the only recourse I have is to sue Intuit in federal court, which is a time-intensive and expensive process. I've filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and I sincerely hope that this post at least warns people of the company's deceptive trade practices.

I spent hours trying to be patient, read other customer's suggestions, online help, trial & error. Bottom line I stopped trying and moved onto a program called iBank. It's not perfect, I don't like it as much as the old Quicken 2007. I tried for months to get a refund from Intuit and NEVER received a refund. I will miss the ease of use of the old platform & continue my search for a suitable replacement. Intuit has lost a 20+ year customer that would have paid them monthly if they had a platform that works.

I've used Quicken of more than 30 years. This PC version is unusable. I'm knowledgeable and technical. The product is unreliable, and the service is very poor. They've obviously outsourced the development and service to low quality suppliers, and it's no wonder Intuit is spinning it out. I've carefully detailed failures of their PC software to connect to the same banks and accounts when trying to update data to push to the mobile devices as that same PC software successfully links to update its own account information. This means there are two different bits of code to do the same thing, and the latter has failed for months in various ways.
Regrettably, you have 3 choices: (1) use the Macintosh version, which for now is vastly better though increasingly buggy; (2) use Mint, the free web app, which Intuit purchased and might well ruin if they don't handle it better than Quicken; or (3) consolidate into a bank such as BofA or Chase, whose own web software can provide many of the same functions. End of an era! I give up!

I have solved my own issue with the download by myself once, and when the issue reoccurred, I attempted to solve with the same steps. Error continues. Contacted live chat and there were minutes between each response. We spent 15 minutes in a chat and had only gotten to the "what version are you using?" question and I was told it will be another hour to get it solved. Wow. Done with it.

I have been using Quicken for over 20 years, and up to 2015. Loved it, advocated others to use it, used it everyday to monitor finances, credit card purchases, etc. But 2015 is the worst ever. I have been so disappointed in this product. The account updates are never accurate. I have to go confirm all my accounts online every time, and find our Quicken is not downloading the transactions. I have to constantly reset accounts with Quicken, most of the time, deactivating and reactivating the accounts. Almost every time, Quicken just locks up and churns with no progress, so I have to kill the process and restart the program EVERY TIME!!
It used to take me less than 30 minutes to manage my finances a week, but with 2015 it is taking me hours each week because of how poor this product is. I have never written a review like this, but this product is so bad. I work in software quality test, and this product should have never been released. There are so many errors, and it wastes so much of user's time. I would recommend this product to no one. I am disappointed in a product I loved for 20 years. Intuit needs to fix this product or it just lost a lifetime user. Stay away, or waste your valuable time trying to use the supposed benefits of this product.

I've been using Quicken since they acquired its predecessor, CheckFree, which I began using back in the 90's. It was always simple, functional, and quality software for paying bills, tracking finances, and keeping budget and tax information organized. That was until they began "improving" it. I find it objectionable to buy financial software, get myself all set up and dependent upon it, and then being forced to purchase an upgraded version lest I be shut out from the functionality of the originally purchased version. I could accept that if the improvements were actually existent. The latest version Quicken 2015 is so ridden with bugs and malfunctions that every customer should be given a refund. I would love to return to when the product actually worked. Excruciatingly slow loading, screen freezes, crashes, failure to retrieve data properly as it once did, lack of interface with financial institutions that once existed but no longer does... the list is endless.
Customer support is relegated to online forums whereby users help one another instead of the company supporting its product. Trying to reach someone at Quicken is nearly impossible and if you do, it will likely be someone in Pakistan or India with a language barrier. IT'S TIME FOR A CLASS ACTION SUIT by all the stakeholders who are forced to buy a product because they are hostage to a software that houses their data and then that upgrade does not work satisfactorily. This company is so ripe for a competitor that can allow an easy transition of data from Quicken to a new platform.

I have used this product since early 2014 and up until recently it filled my needs satisfactorily. It was easy to learn for a non-accountant person like me. I have used it for my business and currently have 4 accounts, all at the same bank. In the past 2 or 3 months the program arbitrarily changes data, removing payee name, category and memo information and sometimes removing a transaction completely. It creates temporary accounts. Over Labor Day weekend I spent approximately 20 hours reconciling the data back to Jan. 1, 2015 including an hour and a half with Customer Support who was in the Philippines and not proficient in English.
My problem was not resolved. It was left at "programming is aware of this and is working on it". Since my total reconciliation and corrections the program has continued to change things. This has caused a great delay in obtaining a mortgage, as the lender asked for a P&L for my business and the data was a complete mess. My accountant has encouraged me to switch to Quick Books but after this experience I think I will be staying far away from any products from this company.

I have been using Quicken since the mid-1990's and never had a real lot of problems out of it. Do not download transactions however so I may be unawares of something. Only thing I download is the online update on stock quotes for my portfolio. It has not always worked right, truncated some stock values, glitches apparently in that format. Recently, with the latest version of Quicken 2015 Home and Business, I find I have a lousy and dysfunctional software. Calling and communicating with their tech support rendered the program and data totally useless.
Installed on another computer and truncated a good portion of the transaction base which Intuit suggested was the problem. Not so however, danged software started crashing again without apparent rhyme or reason. I am seriously looking for alternate financial software to run my affairs with after a nearly 20-year relationship with Quicken/Intuit software. This is scary to say the least as I have in the past relied very heavily on their data to formulate business strategies, prepare tax information and do budget and forecasting. Totally unreliable software now, sorry as hell I upgraded from Quicken 2010 now.

My dog would have been more knowledgeable! Waste of time! I am sure that if I look online, I will find a fix. The fact that it took the tech almost an hour to do NOTHING is a bad joke.
I am so eagerly awaiting the day in which another accounting software company comes along. Then in May I began having problems with connectivity. Quicken kept telling me my password was wrong and then it finally locked up on a help page and I couldn't shake it loose. I spent hours and hours on chat and the phone with Quicken and they were unable to resolve the issues, even after installing the patch. About two weeks ago I opened it just to see if it would and was surprised when I was able to access it and even download all the missed info from the previous two months, although the balances did not match my bank's.
But I was able to enter all the transactions and print out reports. Two days ago I tried to update and the program locked on the help page again. Yesterday it seemed to have righted itself, but the balances were still wrong. Today I spent two hours on chat with Quicken when I couldn't connect to my bank again and my passwords were not recognized. The tech had me deactivate the accounts but now I cannot re-enter any passwords.
I have spent so many hours trying to get this program working again, and again, that I am going to abandon it. I am looking for new financial software because it is not worth the frustration of trying to keep it working. My simple use is/was as a checkbook database for several different organizations and for myself. Previously, I was able to keep them separate. Now they all show up and are totaled together. Useless information and not wanted nor desired.
But what really gets me is when I have a check, say for a credit card company, where there are split payments, the stupid program automatically changes the entered amount on the first category while I am entering the data for a different category. I hate having to upgrade every few years to the latest version or risk losing my ability to directly download my transactions (one of the raisons d'être for using Quicken). It's blackmail, and I hope someday there will be a consumer fraud class action brought. Worse, over the years, I have seen Intuit actually remove existing functionality in the newer version, only to bring it back with fanfare a few years later. Example: I used to be able to attach my trade confirmations to the stock transactions to which they pertained, but not anymore.
I finally upgraded from Q2012 to Q2014 to keep my download ability, and the conversion lost each and every transaction attachment (receipts, checks, statements, the lot). Tech support was unable to fix the problem, so they gave me Q2013, which actually did work. I worry about the day Intuit force-obsoletes Q2013 and what will happen to my data then. But right now, my biggest problem is that Q2013 hangs up for minutes at a time for no apparent reason, on a 64-bit Windows 7 desktop that otherwise maxes out the Windows Experience Rating for speed. Eventually the problem with each of my 3 financial institutions self-corrects only to quit working again - obviously a problem at Quicken or with financial institutions having problems with the upgrade. It started back in April 2015 - apparently Quicken decided to quit supporting older versions of their software. They never notified me of what was happening. Up to that point all was working well. I have used Quicken for 15 years with few incidents. I have about 8 accounts including 3 business accounts that i download transactions and categorize expenses. Aprox. 150 transactions per month. I update about every two days. When I ran a manual update one day.. All of a sudden every one of my transactions that had been auto downloaded and categorized disappeared since Jan 2015. All that remained were transactions that I had manually entered.
I immediately called Quicken support and after several attempts of super long wait times I decided to search online and discovered I was not alone and read how Quicken had arbitrarily decided to quit supporting my version of the product and MANY others had the same problem (explains the long wait times for support). This is when I first learned about Quickens decision to quit supporting my version and saw how many others were experiencing the same problem. Intuits only advice for those like me was to update my version for almost $100. This was unacceptable. I needed my vista back first.
After biting the bullet and waiting for over an hour I finally got through to support. I soon discovered my call had been transferred overseas and I was speaking to a woman who could barely speak English and her pronunciation was so bad I had to ask her to repeat herself more than once with every sentence she spoke. After painfully describing my situation, the broken record response of "You need to upgrade to 2015," started playing over and over again. Finally in frustration, I decided to try it, thinking my data would be restored. Note - due to the high volume of transactions and splits in my records, recreating this data was not acceptable.
After purchasing the software - and yes I was forced to pay the normal rate - and trying to restore a backup, the exact same thing happened and my data disappeared. At this point I was beside myself with anger at Intuit and Quicken. To shorten this, after multiple attempts to restore my data, I was forced to pull all of my statements and recreate a large portion of my missing data manually, taking me 4 weeks off and on spending time on this as my schedule permitted. This whole time not being able to use the software to monitor my account activity. After finally getting my accounts balanced and able to download new transactions, I was finally relieved that I could get back to my life without spending every possible free moment working to restore this crappy software.
So 4 weeks later, Quicken notifies me of a critical update to 2015 and urges me to download. After installing this release my problems escalated. A random password was assigned to my data and it was not my password. I cannot even access my data. Several file restores from backups later and countless interactions with support, I am no better off 3 weeks in. They even asked me to send them a copy of the file so that their programming experts could disable the password and release the data, which made me think, finally someone is doing the right thing.
48 hours later, I get an email from support saying they were unable to clear the password and could I send a different data file and also telling me I may want to consider creating a brand new data file as an option, huh? This is 15 years worth of data and you are suggesting I create a new data file??? I am about at the end of my rope. After 15 years of being a loyal Quicken client, I am ready for a divorce. If anyone has had a similar problem and has discovered a solution I am all ears. In the meantime, I am in search for an alternate software. Thank you.

Every month since I was forced to upgrade "if I wanted to continue to download transactions", I have had to do a "MONDO" update to the software. That was because I called for support after I had let my computer sit for 8 hours trying to download updates from my financial institutions. What gives? Quicken 2012 worked fine. Quicken 2009 worked fine. Quicken 5.... (you get the idea). I have been an Intuit fan for 20+ years. They have finally broken their product and if this continues I am going to have to find another product that can download transactions.
And they seem to know they have problems. If you look at their download side you realize that they have had to do an update every month since March. I really believe this product was released a year too early. They did suggest that they were having a data center (server) problem. I never wanted them in the middle of my getting data from my bank to start with. What was wrong with the old process? If you haven't purchased, DON'T. Save your sanity. Buy something else. Anything else. At this point this product could be replaced with a spreadsheet.

On hold for 14 minutes after being told wait was 4 minutes. Could not sign into my account, said it did not exist, even though information was correct. Tried online chat. It was obvious that the CS person (CSP) was handling multiple chats at the same time. Kept asking for information already given, buried from multiple & delayed responses of "I am sorry for that", "I can help you with that". After a lengthy discourse, I was given a link and told to sign in to my account. When I clicked on that link, it was the same sign in page that I couldn't and still could not get to work. When I went back to chat, the chat was no longer connected. Now I cannot printout the chat and I will have to start all over.
Very Very frustrating and a waste of my time. This incident occurred on 6-26-15 and is not related to the wonderful service I received on May 14, 2015 with a live rep. I am putting my account ID in where it says order number. I have absolutely no idea how to add a receipt, but you have all my information, contact me so I can verify the purchase.

I have been using Quicken for over 20 years and have generally been satisfied. When I switched to using a Mac 5 years ago, I began using Quicken Essentials, that was not nearly as good as the versions I had used with Windows. This year, I began having trouble downloading my transactions. I kept getting a message that they could not connect with my bank. After spending several hours on the phone with service representatives from Intuit, and following their instruction to delete all of my current accounts and then set up new accounts, I was able to connect with my bank and update the accounts on line.
3 weeks ago, the problem began again. Intuit said it was a problem with the bank. I have spoken with the support team at my bank and they said that as of April 30, Intuit no longer supports Quicken Essentials and I would need to upgrade to Quicken 2015 for Mac. I refuse to spend another penny on Quicken software, that is guaranteed to be obsolete in just a few years, forcing another upgrade. I have purchased Money Dance.

As a software engineer, I struggle to understand how a company like Intuit ever allowed a product so widely used to ever make it out the door. Did they completely bypass every form of quality assurance? I sure hope somebody loses a job over this screw up. Poor software quality.

I have used Quicken for at least 15 years. Mac Essentials wasn't great, but it was functional. Recently, I switched back to a PC and was looking forward to using Quicken 2015. HUGE MISTAKE! This is a horrible product. I have spent countless hours on chat-support and phone support over the last two weeks because the software locks me out of my own data. Support teams assured me that if we just upgraded to R8, the problems would be gone. Indeed, Quicken worked perfectly (and I spend lots more time updating all my financial information) until I closed the app... I tried to open Quicken this morning, and was locked out AGAIN. I cannot and will not spend another 10 hours on the phone with Intuit. I give up. A product I once loved is completely defunct. Don't buy it.

Great experience for 4 years, now I have tremendous difficulty to download info from my bank. I have been locked out for weeks at a time. I am now 1 hour 23 minutes into online chat with customer support. ** has me repeating the exact same not working steps over and over again to no avail.

I upgraded to Quicken 2015 - and was dismayed with how unreliable the software is. I've had files corrupted twice and had to recover from backups. One time I lost a weeks of work, another time just a day. I'm a certified system administrator and this is not a disk or virus - it's buggy software. The software will crash - a report error to Quicken dialog comes up, then the file is corrupted. This problem is not limited to me based on internet research. I have used Quicken almost 15 years and I'm now looking to change to a more reliable company that tests its software. I have used Quicken since the early 2000's - but am now looking for alternatives.

I have been a user for over 25 years of Quicken and this is the worst upgrade ever. Any updates to my system take FOREVER. A simple transaction takes up to 30 seconds. I keep finding more errors or functions that do not work. I have called the help desk at least (3) three times. Usually very difficult to understand. My Quicken currently states I have NOT updated for 16 days when I just updated my balances. I have accomplished all task they requested and still have issues. HORRIBLE. Enough to make me change to another application. Now having issues with VALIDATING my file and backing up. FRUSTRATING!!

Have used Quicken for a decade or more. Quicken 2012 was not going to be serviced anymore and required to buy the 2015 version. I now have no access to my files or accounts. Hours with their tech people, uploading and downloading and still unable to get access to my files. Support not helpful.

I have been using Quicken since the its inception in the early 90s. This version has more bugs than I have ever encountered in its history. A major one that caused me a great deal of time and work was the program demanding a password for a data file in which one was never set up. After trying many approaches and exchanging with your group, it was never solved for weeks and I had to keep validating and using previous backup files to access my info. You finally acknowledged the problem and created a V8 which was supposed to solve it. It sorta does; but if you update from outside the program, it then asks for a data password where there was none.
Quicken 2015 also seems to randomly delete categories and not allow you to recreate the same category that was deleted. Validating the file works for a while. There are also security transactions that keep coming up as mistakes in downloads. Either accepting or deleting them does not change that they come up again in the next download. And so on... Not a trustworthy product at this point!

I purchased Quicken 2015 five months ago and had been using it successfully. I was sent an update and then everything went haywire. It lost 3 months of my financial data. It responds as if I have not installed Quicken 2015. It keeps asking to install and then for the data from past Quicken software -- which no longer exists as it had been converted to the 2015 version. Trying to work with customer support was useless -- 1.5 hours and she just kept saying "I see, I see" when the data could not be located then she hung up on me. Now I can't use it at all because it can't find any of my financial data.
