I am a 28 year Quicken user. I have purchased many upgrade CD's over the years - at my choosing. Quicken has determined that in order to make more money for their CEO's and stockholders that they must convert to an annual "membership". If this weren't bad enough, when the "upgrade" occurs, data since the last upgrade is deleted. As a professional, I neither am open to nor appreciative of this immense disrespect of my time and work, usually occuring at tax time when I need the information the most.
Quicken has been ZERO help in recovering my data and accused me of not using their product "as instructed". In fact I did use it as instructed, which may have lead to the loss of data. They have offered and seem to be quite proud of their position on this. Worse this year, after a year of not having close control of my finances, they are demanding another "membership fee". Time to go to Quickbooks for my personal and professional needs. They actually understand accounting, offer professional grade products, and back their service for their clients. Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me!

Used Quicken over 20 years. I tried to open Quicken and received a message that Quicken could not open. It said to try to open again, if that did not open Quicken to call the number listed. (This occurred right after a update of Quicken). I called the number. They took control of my computer and said that it was not a software issue rather corrupted files and it would require a fee to restore my data. My alternative was to eliminate 20 years of data and reload the program which I did rather than pay a fee. I wrote a letter to Quicken and received a phone call. I was told that there was no record of my phone call to Quicken. Since I eliminated my data they could provide no assistance and did not offer any resolution. I used on line Quicken only to update stocks quotes and everything else I did manually. As a result, I will never trust Quicken and would never put any sensitive information into the program.

I have used Quicken for many years purchasing the software outright. Now, Quicken is attempting to force me to switch to a subscription model, urging me to upgrade to their new system with hidden threats and now the frequent occurrence of crashes which had never happened before since I first began to use Quicken over 16 years ago. Is this a ploy to force me to upgrade?
Is time for Attorney General to stop companies from changing course and forcing consumers to continue to support their products under new conditions that were not explained at the time of the purchase of the product. If more of us write complains to the State and the Office of Consumer Affairs, it may be possible to punish these companies that are now seeking to rewrite the conditions of purchasing of goods. Is there any decent lawyer that is willing to start this reaction. Quicken is doing the same thing that Wink attempted to do with a different item.

My question: why does the download transactions flag stay on? No help. One technician wanted me to close my present account and create new ones. MUCH work for me. I SAID, "NO. Gave me phone # to call back later." I used search GOOGLE and found this: Quicken Windows - red flag but no transactions to review bug. I GOT: Spring Davidson Member February 2018 edited April 2019 in FAQ'S (Windows) I used this and fixed my problem. My big question is "WHY COULDN'T the Technician show me this."

I agree with most of the problems with the "NEW" Quicken. Although hard to find a better product given 20 years experience using the Old Quicken (non-sub), many of the issues may be SEC, GAAP, among other serious issues with "NEW" Quicken. There are plenty of software bugs including screen skewing issues (compatibility most likely with WIN/PC Platforms), refresh issues with login, verify after trying to add bank/credit card numbers, account numbers on credit card paying, flexibility on "PAY" immediate, knowing really what service is handling bill pay (??? Old Bill Pay, or New Bill Manager/Bill Pay, how to cancel old expiring Quicken BILL Pay..many, many more...QUICKEN Software development needs to address many of these issues and more or you will not have a customer base. IT SHOULD BE AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT if problems, tech support, functionality, feature(s) improvement is addressed.

The new owners have replaced QuickenBillPay with Quick Pay (direct electronic payment) and Check Pay (they will send a check). Neither of these are intuitively designed, neither work as advertised. I paid for Premier, with the included premium tech support -- after two hours in the first two weeks, I figured out how to do some things MYSELF. Tech support was useless - they don't know the product, they don't know how to make it work. AND there are monthly quotas = limits to the number of bills you can pay per month. And no apparent mechanism to increase that. As soon as I find time, I will replace the mess. After 20 years of loyalty to this product, you'd think they would have been ready for prime time before railroading people into a beta version.

I purchased Quicken to capture and report my bank and credit card transactions. The Quicken file (.qfx) export function on the website was working fine until the end of February. It was at that time that the export started showing purchases on the card as debits and payments as credits. This completely messed up my reporting. Logged an issue with their customer support on March 5th. After a number of followups both online and through their support line I received the following response on April 10th.
"I apologize in the delay in responding as we have received a larger than normal volume. I apologize about this issue of not being able to export your transactions to Quicken. I do see an agent sent a ticket to the technical team supporting the online system; however I do not have a time frame when this will be resolved. Unfortunately, just to let you know, this is not a priority or an issue for most cardholders so will likely not be looked into for some time due to nature of the times."
I appreciate the fact that they are receiving a larger than normal volume, and my issue being low priority, but over two months to resolve a simple technical issue (not an enhancement request) speaks volumes of their inability to support this customer facing service. On the occasion of the call to their support line, the representative taking my call and recording my issue clearly had no experience with computers, web browsers or the functionality of their own website. An overall frustrating experience and worries me if I run into a real financial issue with transactions or points.

I have been a Quicken user for over 20 years. Like many others, I am unhappy with the new renewal fee program. What used to cost $40 every 3 years, now costs $53.11 each year! I'm looking for an alternate program, but it seems Quicken is the best. Maybe Quicken management will start reading these reviews and offer a more reasonable fee program.

I have used Quicken and QuickBooks for many years. In every case, I purchased the software outright. I was using Quicken 2017 until now. Quicken made the decision to go to a subscription model and have been urging an upgrade. As of May 1, 2020, they disabled some features in the older versions, rendering them much more difficult to use. (Downloading bank activity, etc..). I'm sure their lawyers have figured out a way to make it legal, but, in my opinion, they took away features that I had purchased. Legal recourse is probably a waste of money and time, but I will never do business with Intuit again.

I have been a Quicken user and utilizing Bill Pay for 20 years. In November while using Quicken 2017 I lost the ability to use Bill Pay. No one at Quicken could answer why and at Bill Pay, I received a bit more explanation and that Quicken was rolling out the new subscription platform and this could be related. All Quicken could offer for repair was that I subscribe and that my Q2017 would no longer be supported beginning in April.
So, I subscribed to Quicken Premiere Q2020. Unfortunately, not disclosed before this purchase, Q2020 will not utilize Bill Pay and you must use Quicken's Bill Manager. None of this and what follows was disclosed in the offering advertisement. So, I subscribed to Bill Manager which when I got it set up I learned 1) you cannot schedule payment (you make payment the moment it is entered), 2) that you get very few uses of the payment system and have to pay to use the same number provided with the Bill Pay service, 3) that even if you did want to purchase additional bill payments - you can't as it is not yet offered, 4) none of the Payee information carries over to Bill Manager so if you have 50 accounts that you use from time to time you better have your accounts information available to set them up in Bill Manager, and so on.
In short - I canceled my Q2020 subscription and am looking for another software solution or I will just pay bills through my bank's online service. My loss was many hours of waiting online to talk to support agents (the promise in the advertisement that Premiere provides quicker support is not true unless you feel a minimum of 40 minutes for each call is faster). I do very much appreciate the sensitivity of the technical support people and their good character as they must be getting a lot of fallout from what must be a money grab scheme devised by a change in Quicken ownership. My advice, run away from Quicken 2020 until they have a working product to offer that will at least do as well as the previous product.

2 days ago I renewed my Quicken program. It used to really chafe me that they wanted renewal every 3 years. Now we are forced to renew every year which means they have tripled their revenue. In spite of that they are too cheap to hire support personnel. I wasted 2-1/2 hours today trying to get through to ask why they havent provided a download for the program I purchased. After all these years they seem to have gone out of their way screw up what should be a seamless procedure.

I used Quicken without too many hiccups for many years, although I chaffed at having to "upgrade" every three years in order to keep getting the same services I had been getting all along (ability to download transactions from my bank). More recently, the price has been going up, up, up to the point of now having to pay every year (subscription) for a product that seems worse, not better. SO... I jumped off the bandwagon last year and switched to another product and am glad I did. The part that really frosts me is that on their website, Quicken posts a "data access policy" that claims to guarantee that you can continue to access your old data files even if you don't have a current subscription. As soon as my version went out of date, I could not longer open my existing data files!
I chatted on-line with Quicken support and they said they could not help because they no longer support my version (2016 Deluxe) and would only help me (with the apparent Quicken ID/password issue) if I bought a new subscription! In other words, their "data access policy" is a huge LIE! I read that Intuit sold Quicken to a holding company a few years ago. If true... you can bet that all they're trying to do is maximize revenues (a la "subscription" pricing) in order to make more when they sell it down the road.

I use this program only to track my expenses manually. Not connected to my bank accounts. They made me renew last year because they said they were bought by a new company, and all old accounts were deleted. They said I would always have access to my data. This year, the problem is half my screen is taken up with banners telling me to renew so my data is there, but I have to navigate around their advertising to see it. Tech support cannot remove the banners. Do not buy this program. The company tries to rip off their customers at every opportunity.

I used Quicken for 20+ years and was very pleased. Until now: 2016 quit, tried latest patch (no go), and then reinstall (blocked at Intuit login and seemingly no way to bypass). On-line support unable to help. Cannot get program to run or access financial data. Used 2016 because it was a standalone program and I do not use on-line banking services. I have little use for subscription based programs when I do not use the on-line services. Additionally, I do not like the idea of my data floating around the "cloud."
My needs are pretty simple; checking and savings accounts, credit cards, and basic investment accounts. Quicken served these needs very well until the last couple of years. I could tolerate the "upgrade nag," but the program stoppage is over the top. Needless to say, I am now searching for a replacement program, standalone and non-subscription based.

Long time user. Once sold by Intuit, went to hell. Spent countless hours with totally incompetent people to get it going, then it would update and break again. I only use it once a year doing taxes. For a while, they have splashed banners asking to update and threatening the connected services would be shut off. So what, I don't use any. This year, 2020, for tax year 2019, the simple import of a file already downloaded from my credit union that they don't even connect to, demanded a $45+ update. I understand that software companies are moving to subscription services but this is a total change of policy on the software I bought when it was not subscription on their side only. That's Bait & Switch fraud.

It just turned 2020 so my Quicken 2017 is really just a bit over 2 years old. I paid full price for the product and was promised certain functions. Lo and behold, today I received an email from them stating that unless I pay them more money, in essence, they're rendering what I purchased from them useless. Hard to believe that a company, once owned by a reputable company, Intuit, does this to its client base and thinks they can do it with complete impunity. Of course, in addition to sharing my terrible experience with as many potential buyers of their product as I can, I will be moving onto Mint which offers pretty much the same functionality as Quicken but without the bait and switch.

I have had the Quicken Deluxe 2019 subscription for a year now and I have learned to hate it even more than I did with earlier versions. I have been using Quicken since it came out and it just continues to cause problems. I have tried replacing it with other software, free or paid for, and found most other products do not have the features I am looking for that Quicken has or they are more geared toward those with investments which I do not have. I have tried many of them only to discover they are lacking features that I am used to.
One problem I have had is the cloud service connected to the desktop app always seems to be down. The last three days I can't access it which I needed to do to delete old 2019 data that should have been deleted when I chose not to include it in my 2020 data after doing a Year End backup. It removed the 2019 from the 2020 data file, but as soon as I did an updated Cloud sync it put all that old 2019 data back into my current file. I have tried repeatedly to access that data online to manually delete it only that website has been down for several days. I even uninstalled the desktop app twice then reinstalled it using the latest copy on my account page. Nothing changed.
The only part I can access online is for my account information. While there I took great pleasure in not renewing my subscription which was already paid for with the two-year subscription. I wish I had only made it for one year only. I don't think that was an option. The only good thing about the subscription is once paid for I can continue using Quicken even if I do not resubscribe for the online/cloud services which for me are just a backup vault and that needs fixing. I found a lot of duplicates and unknown data on my Quicken Cloud account when it was working and there is no explanation telling what it is. I wanted to delete everything then do a new sync from the desktop app, but the website has been down since I tried to use it three days ago. Days ago I sent a screen capture to Quicken showing the problem, but haven't heard back yet.
Even though I still have another year of my subscription, I disconnected from their cloud and will continue to just use it locally without the interference with their screwed up cloud backup. I don't use any bank connections because I don't trust them and enter everything manually. However, I do save all my Quicken data externally to other services. Since I don't use Quicken on my phone then I really don't need the cloud sync and prefer it to be local especially when it isn't reliable. I vote they go back to offering the perpetual version for those of us who don't need or want the ability to sync online. As unsafe as the internet has become, and I have been victimized many times over the years for account compromises, who can trust your data online anymore? I sure don't and never will.

Within the past few months I have encountered a problem with my Quicken reconciliation which has me upset. I have been a Quicken customer for years and I have been very happy with the product. Now after I do my reconciliation, the starting balance is not reflective of the bank's ending balance. In the past the new starting balance always reflected the bank's ending balance but now something strange is happening and I have no idea why I am now getting huge adjustments and still starting off with an incorrect starting balance in my next month's reconciliation. In the past years I have never had a problem doing my account reconciliation. What is different with Quicken now?

Like other reviewers, I have used Quicken for more than 20 years and quicken bill pay. Never had any problems. Being forced to upgrade to Quicken 2019 Premier involves having to set up a new quicken bill pay account even though nothing has otherwise changed on my end. I am currently at 3 weeks, 5 phone calls, "tickets" issued that only result in the same response "they are very busy and behind". Thus.. I can't pay bills unless I continue the original plan (which is now supposed to be included in Quicken 2019 Premier). I am wondering if they just aren't getting new accounts activated so they can continue to collect on their monthly bill pay fees or what. They are NOT living up to their purchase agreement, and should be investigated. Do NOT purchase this product.. unless like many of us, you "have to".

Add Me To The list...of dissatisfied customers! This software is a joke. I've been using Quicken for a couple of decades. The last couple of years it's all been downhill. Constant "connection" issues with Financial Institutions (I get that policies change, but Quicken is extremely slow to update... if at all lately!!). Get the occasional duplicate transactions, constantly asked to upgrade (yeah right), when selecting "Don't remind me again", does not comply with the check mark! Why bother putting it there if you don't adhere to the decision? It really needs some major housecleaning to get it back to the once upheld standards. Out of my 10 or so accounts, when trying to update, 3 fail with 5xx errors; try again later, or tomorrow, or in a few days. CONSTANTLY!!! Bye Quicken!

I have spent a significant amount of time looking for a way to re-print an account reconciliation; after all, no software program would disallow a re-print, right? Well! Here is a program that does! I think it is abhorrent that any software program would not allow re-printing of any document at any time. In addition, I now have to spend hours researching another more suitable program, not to mention time getting up to speed on it. Thanks for that!

I have been using the 2016 version of Quicken for the past 3 years. It was NOT a subscription service as that time. I have never used the online banking, or the online bill pay options. Everything I do has been manual. Suddenly, ads are taking up at least 1/2 of my screen, and I am unable to see the complete info on my past transactions. I am told "my Membership expired" and to pay up. Then, a day or two later, I am not even allowed to manually enter a transaction. "You need to 'renew your membership'". I never had a membership. But now I am being totally bricked until they get money from me. My program has been abducted, and I have to pay the ransom to get my Quicken back. I feel like I have been robbed. Every few months I get a cc-501 error which says that it is not my fault but a problem with Quicken. However, to fix the problem I need to deactivate all my accounts (many) then reactivate. My bank account was recently hacked, and for the last 2 months, I have been trying to get the new account, opened immediately after the hack, confirmed as the funding account so I can continue to use the otherwise convenient Bill Pay service directly through Quicken. I have spent at least 8 hours on hold during this time, spoken with at least 3 supervisors, got a message from the escalation team, had my case escalated 3 times (or more), spoke with at least 15 different representatives, and despite my complaints, had at least 10 'tickets' opened that would insure that action would be taken.
If I could give 0 stars I would. I am done with QBP, and very possibly with Quicken. If I find another program that I can seamlessly transfer my info to, I would do it in a heartbeat. I have read through two years of Quicken reviews on this website. Mostly one or two stars. I would give zero stars if I could. Quicken has gone way downhill since being sold by Intuit to a private equity firm. I know how this works. Cut costs to the bone to improve profitability at the expense of users so they can put lipstick on this pig and sell it to someone else or do a stock IPO.
Quicken probably tries to do too much. The result is a convoluted menu system that is difficult to navigate as it is not intuitive. It can be difficult to figure out how to do some things and generate certain reports as the process can be rather circuitous. I have used many sophisticated software packages over a long career in finance. I consider myself to be a very competent and experienced user of financial software and online services. This is not about me being a technology neophyte.
I have been getting error messages when trying to download my Fidelity account. I called the Quicken help desk and the tech rep had no clue. I spent more than 40 minutes, mostly on hold, and then the call just dropped. Quicken made no effort to follow up with me to address the problem and there was no notification on the website that there is a problem with Fidelity. When I called Fidelity help I was immediately told that there is a problem with Quicken and given a target date for when they hope to have it resolved. If they are depending upon help from Quicken, I doubt that they will be able to hit that target as I have already been trying to address this problem for over a week.
Several accounts are not downloading correct balances and are missing transactions. Quicken shows the correct online balance but that information is not being reflected in account registers. I do not even want to attempt to troubleshoot this problem with Quicken help as I have neither the time nor the patience to deal with incompetence. I am looking for a replacement for Quicken. I have seen recommendations for other services, some of which are free. My son told me that his bank, one of the major US players, has a very good suite of personal finance software. I will check it out next week.

I have been a happy Quicken Bill Pay customer for 2 decades! I was recently, upon login, forced to upgrade from the 2016 version to the annual membership plan. There was no detailed information given that this upgrade would completely change the look of the software or require me to re-verify all of the banking information and freeze bill scheduling for the account that was previously established for years and years. I switched on May 3 with Quicken telling me it would be 7-10 business days to re-verify my banking information. On May 17th I called back since I didn't have the two micro deposits necessary to complete the activation process... again...
They then created a ticket telling me they would escalate to the enrollment team who would reach out to me through email but, get this, could not give me any time frame as to when that would happen because they were "very behind". Over a week later, I get an email asking for a utility bill to verify address. We recently moved, so of course I updated my address with Quicken BEFORE I scanned over the bill knowing mismatched addresses would create yet another red flag and delay. May 31st I get an email that my addresses do not match and they want a scanned copy of my social security card and birth certificate before allowing my accounts to be reactivated despite that fact that my 15th call to Quicken support proves the addresses DO match.
Who do they think they are? There is no way I am sending those people documents that anyone could use to steal my identity. I used Quicken for many years and was very happy with it...UNTIL they sold to another company. I tried, unsuccessfully, numerous times to get the transaction downloads to work correctly but with each update the problem became worse. Quicken has no software support that I was able to find, simply a forum where other people can offer suggestions that might help. I find this ridiculous and certainly not helpful. I tried purchasing the latest version but quickly learned that it is now a subscription service that requires my financial information to be on the 'cloud'.
I also found that it was even worse than the older version and I really dislike having my financial information on the 'cloud' as opposed to being stored on my own computer. I requested, and received, my money back and I switched to a program called Moneydance. While it doesn't do downloads to my banks (yet) it is resident on my computer and works well enough that I can track my bank accounts, financial investments, assets, liabilities, and generate the reports I need for tax purposes. I really wish that Quicken had remained with the original company as I feel it has become a completely useless program that causes more problems than it solves.

I have been an avid Quicken and Quicken Bill Pay for 20 years. My latest version Quicken 2016 was cancelled and I was forced told to upgrade and change to a subscription alternative under the claim that it would make the frequent upgrades easier. But it required discontinuing and setting up my Quicken bill pay account again - which has been a real pain. That way it will take 10+ days to complete this on the Quicken end so I am without Bill Pay services for all that time.

I have used Quicken for many years, upgrading when forced by company changes. The 2016 version is more than I need and I do not wish to upgrade. Quicken has now intentionally blocked access to downloads from my financial institutions. The file downloads into my computer but the Quicken software now prevents me from accessing it saying the institution cannot be verified! I know this is my institution, my account information and believe Quicken should have no right to prevent me from continuing to use the software. I purchased it, my institution is happy to send me my information in the correct format, Quicken now actively blocks access to it. I cannot believe this is legal. If this does not change, in the future, I will not purchase any of the many products I have been using from this company. This is borderline extortion! I've used Quicken since 1992. The new owners, HIG Capital LLC, are an unknown. Why would I "trust" them with my financial data (not to mention it will now be accessible only online)? As it is, since updating to Quicken 2016, I can no longer view daily changes to my portfolio holdings. The new option is less than this takeaway, it is no option - I refuse to be extorted into paying annually for the privilege of allowing bandits full access and control over my private financial records. As others have reported, I've generally updated the software every 3-4 years and depended on it to remain useful. Now it is nothing more than a checkbook ledger. RIP, Quicken.

I have been a faithful user of Quicken since the mid-1990s, and have upgraded every three or four years. I have always found the constant pop-ups trying to push me into an upgrade an annoyance, especially since I paid for the program. One doesn't expect a paid version to continuously bombard you with ads for product upgrades or enhancements. This has led me to continue to look for an alternate program, which I would gladly purchase if there was one that was viable. It seems the only program that would do what Quicken does is MS Money, and it was discontinued.
What really makes me irritated, however, and the reason for my low rating of the product, is that now, three years after voluntarily paying full price for the 2016 version of the program, it has stopped allowing me to update my accounts and is forcing me into a subscription model. While this might make perfect sense for the new investment group that owns Quicken, I do not expect a product that I paid for to just stop working because the mother company wants more money from its users.
I have no problem with subscription-based products, but whether to buy into a subscription is part of the decision when one chooses a product and forcing a user into a subscription after paying for the full product is nothing short of extortion. Imagine if you purchased a new car and three years in it simply stopped running because General Motors decided they were only going to do monthly rental programs or annual leases -- how would that fly with you? It leaves me with a pretty bitter taste in my mouth. If I can find an alternative product I will certainly do so.

Updated on 11/18/2019: First, I understand that Billpay is owned and run by a third party. I evaluated whether or not it was worthwhile to upgrade to the now forced subscription version of Quicken 2019 or not. Since I always buy Quicken Premier, it made sense to upgrade, saving me $9.95 per month for Billpay. However, now that I've upgraded in October, knowing that my functionality for 2017 would go away soon, they require you to re-enroll in the "new" Billpay system and cancel the old one. I'm using the same financial institution I've been using for years so this should be no big deal! Ha!! After a month, they still have not authorized my bank under the "new" Billpay system. I haven't cancelled the old one yet, so I'm still paying the monthly fees!!
Their customer support center is professional, courteous, and responsive with what they can do, but support falls apart after that! 4 phone calls in the last 3 weeks and still no resolution. I have to manually log into the old Billpay system to pay my bills now and as the "new" system still is not completely set up!! The functionality support for Quicken 2017 ends after this year and these companies should have known there would be a surge at year end to convert over to the new system, yet they appear to be totally unprepared and overwhelmed. Someone should be fired for lack of preparation!!
I for one, am NOT HAPPY with their unresponsiveness. How long does it take to send 2 trivial transactions to the bank to verify that it works properly??? I have 3 open tickets now, one for the activation of the "new" Billpay not complete, one for the refund of money that I should not have had to spend to keep the "old" Billpay active, and one to escalate to a higher authority due to their unresponsiveness, GRRRR!!!
Original review: I've been using Quicken since the 1990s. I would upgrade between every 2 years to 4 years depending on new features added. I have had the 2017 version of Quicken since late 2016. It has served me well until about a year ago when I started having problems doing the automated "Update Accounts" with my bank. The new company's Support tried to help me but it has never worked right since. There are simple things that once worked and now do not, like in Bills, when selecting a bill with the options to show me the average for the last x number of payments, it is not even close to the average.
Maybe it's fixed now in a newer release, however, it now appears that if I upgrade they want to lock me into a subscription where I must pay for one or two years or lose functionality after the subscription runs out. This, of course, would force an upgrade or enter all your data manually!! That, to me is totally unethical!! After nearly 30 years of loyal use of Quicken, I will be looking elsewhere for a product I can install on my computer and still download transactions from all of my financial institutions WITHOUT a subscription!! If none exist, I will revert to the old manual method!! I really despise these strong arm tactics of subscribe and update or else!!

Quicken said had I purchased it from Quicken, I'd be able to reinstall no problem but since I purchased from Intuit, they can't help me unless I buy a supported product. I'm asking for the product I purchased, not for support. I found this unacceptable so I tried all kinds of ways to get through (chat, phone, Facebook) but they won't budge. I was told I had to start from scratch and could not carry my past transactions with me. It created chaos with my financial records.
I limped along for another year when I was told I had to buy the 2019 software. It worked for a couple of months and then stopped downloading transactions again. The original accounts all had double transactions in them and all the totals were off. I phoned the helpline and was told my file was corrupt and was asked to subscribe to their data protection plan for $199. for 3 years or $299 for 5 years or $349 for lifetime. Seriously? I asked if he was going to fix the current situation or was he telling me I have to pay to have it fixed? He then told me he may be able to get me a discount since I was a long standing customer.
Not acceptable I say! He then proceeded to "help" me. He told me I had corrupted the file and that my online searches have resulted in me giving access to an unknown source that caused the file corruption. Not acceptable! No this did not happen. I have very good protection on my pc and I do not use the mobile app nor do I sync it with any other source. I only use the program on my home computer. He tried to tell me that if I log in from other locations it can leave it open to the corruption. This hasn't happen either. He tried everything possible to blame me and my actions for the corrupted software. I told him I know others are having the same issues. We cannot all be doing the same thing wrong.
Even if by some odd chance we were it would still fall back on Quicken for having software that would allow such a thing. I am not a newbie. I knew what my Quicken is about. I've been using it for years and have never, until this latest update, had any such issues. It should be criminal what they have done and are continuing to do. They blame the consumer and ask you to pay hundreds so keep it from happening again. Smells like a scam to me. Now I have years of my financials tied up in software I cannot use. His final answer to me was to purchase a new computer and call them back to make sure it's done right this time and to not use the software until I do. Not acceptable! I feel it's time for a class action lawsuit and some government intervention here.

My wife and both were both using Quicken 2016 Deluxe. Both of us have desktop computers with separate portfolios. Quicken notified me in February, 2019 that I had to upgrade to the 2019 version because they would no longer support such and such. So I did. Installation was quick and easy. And then we both had problems with the accuracy of the data downloads from investment firms, banks, credit card companies, etc. My wife spent hours with Quicken support and the only answer she got with the accuracy of her investment downloads was to delete the accounts and reestablish them.
Of course all her previous records were lost. I took the easy way out and made balance adjustments on all my accounts to bring them in line with my real balances. Now, they brag about all the new features, which, in my opinion, amount to nothing. Why these problems? They have been in business for 25 years or so and by now their programmers should just be tweaking things, not starting all over. Every time I've "upgraded" to Quicken new releases I have had issues. Quicken is easy to use and there are a number of things you can do with it. BUT if things do not work as they are supposed to, is it really easy to use? It is eventually forcing me to find another software program to manage my money. I give Quicken a very low rating and advise others who are purchasing this new version to be wary of problems.

I have been using Quicken since its inception. The product was usable until it Intuit sold it. I was using Quicken 2017 and Bill Pay for $9.95 per month. Was notified that I needed to upgrade to Quicken 2018 annual subscription of $64/year. Appeared to be a good deal and I rely on it to pay all my bill and track financial assets. I signed up in November 2018. After not seeing the promised micro deposits for 30 days I called support and the nightmare began. They told me I never responded to the encrypted email that was to used to validate my identity and now I needed to email copies of my driver's license, proof of social security eligibility and a copy of my electric bill for proof of residence.
After a couple of weeks I called and found there was a problem with my routing number which I corrected. Waited again then receiving notification that my account had be deactivated due to lack of activity. It’s now January and I had to apply again for and resend all the identity verification documents. I call in early February for a status and was told I needed to wait another 7-10 days for processing. I call after the 10 day processing window and was told they have a large backlog of requests to process and they would open a ticket to escalate activation of my account.
So today is February 23, it’s been almost 3 months trying to get my 2018 bill pay activated. I can still send out bills and am still being charged $9.95 per month but am wondering how much longer this will go on. Have used Quicken for MANY years. Upon notice from them that 2018 version will no longer be functional in a couple of months, I completed the required "upgrade" to the 2019/subscription version. Quicken is functional for tracking funds with following exceptions: On two occasions download of bank transactions has missed deposits, requiring manual correction. Bigger issue is that BillPay is non-functional so cannot pay bills through Quicken (and sadly, my USAA bank does not integrate with Quicken for bill payment via DirectConnect).
Per instructions from Quicken I created a new BillPay account on 1/6/19 and laboriously re-entered payee data from my old BillPay account. As of 2/9/19, the 2 "microdeposits" they require for account activation have not been received. I was first told this would take about 3 business days. In subsequent calls to support I was told by techs and supervisors that it would now take 10 business days, then was told a "ticket" was created and should be resolved within a couple of hours, then was told they were still trying to resolve tickets from December, then was told they did not know how long it would take, then was told they would credit my Quicken subscription for one month due to delayed activation, then was told to go online to my old BillPay account where I can still pay bills for the additional fee of $9.95 per month till they get the new BillPay working with the 2019/subscription version of Quicken.
Overall, it's been over one month since I upgraded Quicken and created the new BillPay account and still cannot used Quicken to pay bills. I'm still hopeful they get issues resolved as I prefer Quicken to the alternatives. But at this point, if you plan to use Quicken BillPay for online bill payment, DO NOT purchase or upgrade to the subscription version. Updated on 01/31/2019: One week after cancelling, Quicken Bill Pay withdrew money from my account for a bill but never paid it. It was my phone bill, so now I've paid my phone bill twice but the quicken payment was not received. Another forty minutes on the phone with Quicken Bill Pay Support (in the Philippines) and I was told "yes, that money came out and didn't go to a bill, but we'll put it back in six days."
I would not recommend ANYONE do business with Quicken. Their product is not worth the time, money, or stress. I thought that by paying a company a subscription that I would at least be paying for customer service, but that was not the case. I have received better and faster support from companies that don't charge anything. In my opinion, quicken should stay in the 1990's when it was a worthwhile product.
Original Review: Decided to subscribe to Quicken and their online bill pay. In three weeks, I had a late payment and two bills process early resulting in two overdraft fees from my bank. I called Quicken support, and they said their software isn't smart enough to avoid giving my bank account a negative balance. While my company's payroll was a day late, I feel like financial software in charge of managing my accounts and paying my bills should be able to avoid negative account balances as a result of their automation. Customer support did not care, and cancelled my account rather than work with me and my issues.
Quicken Bill Pay was not so easy to delete. They had me on the phone for 30 minutes telling me I would be charged for their bill pay service regardless of how it was functioning or whether I would use it. I was speaking to bill pay support as I drove down to my bank to close my account to prevent them from charging me when they finally admitted that I was in a trial period anyway. Turns out 30 minutes of bluster and I was correct after all (after demanding to speak to a supervisor 3 times and being told no). I will never use their shoddy service and will loudly share my experience with anyone who will listen.

I upgraded to 2019 since Quicken Bill Pay is included with Quicken Premier saving me $120 and offsetting the now annual subscription required for Quicken. There were no substantial changes with Quicken 2019, except they changed some of the formatting. They increased the width of the entry lines with a relatively small font. Hence you see less on the page and it's harder to read, quite effective if they're trying to drop their older users. User experience aside I could live with it. The most disappointing issue is with Quicken Bill Pay. To get the 'free' Quicken Bill Pay, you need to establish a new account through Metavante Payment Services. They warned me up front not to transfer from the old services since it may take awhile to setup the new one. I'm glad I did... I started the process Oct 10, 2018 to setup the account which includes verifying your funding accounts.
However, they never verified the account with 2 small deposits as they stated. I called customer service and they informed me that they were not able to read all the documentation I originally sent since they could not clearly read the fax (this was the only way they would receive the docs, and yeah, I know, I'm older and I still had one). Regardless, I insisted they should be able to receive an email with pdf files and they eventually agreed. After another few weeks, no reply. I called again, and there was another issue with their account setup and they now required more documentation. But like the first issue, they do not send you any notice there is an issue, you only find out after you call them back.
I complied, and I re-sent them all the information and the customer rep entered the account information again. This was early December 2018. It's now Jan 16, 2019. Account still not setup and no response. I will not be making any further attempts to resolve. The new owners have made some changes and since they have taken over my software has crashed repeatedly and I've lost entries in the process. However, they seem to be focusing on marketing the product rather than maintaining the software. I would no longer recommend it to anyone.

I have been a Quicken user for 20+ years. My laptop is having problems, I need to take it apart and replace some hardware and clean it. Before doing that I need to have another computer up and running in case something happens. I use my computer all day, every day so being without one is not an option. I installed Quicken onto a backup laptop that I have kicking around. I backed up the Quicken data file on the old and copied it to the new. When I try to open Quicken on the new computer, it demands that I log in. When I try to log in, it doesn't recognize my email address ID even though I receive email (spam) from Quicken at that address almost daily.
On the old computer, I went to the Quicken support site to try and get some help. It too wanted me to log in, which I did with no problem, or so I thought. After I log in, I am taken to what appears to be a home page. I click on the Support link and am brought to a new page...but I am no longer logged in! Of course, it won't let me post a question without being logged in! So, I log in again and the same thing happens. Seems to me QUICKEN REALLY DOESN'T REALLY WANT ANYONE USING THEIR SUPPORT SITE!
So OK, I'll call support even though I will have to pay long distance charges. I am connected with a woman I can barely understand because her accent is so thick. She asks for my email address, when she repeats it back to me it isn't even slightly close to what I had said. But it doesn't matter, she won't/can't help me anyway. To make the rest of the story short, my only option is to pay them for an upgrade! It will cost $45 that I do not have to upgrade to a new version on which will never, ever use the "new & improved" bells & whistles! I suppose they think they have a captive customer base. Surprise Quicken! After 20 years, I am in the market for new software. You have lost a long-time, formerly loyal customer. This should be a simple thing: install the software that I bought a couple of years ago, copy the data file over and I'm good to go. But no, QUICKEN HAS TO MAKE IT AS EXPENSIVE AND DIFFICULT AS POSSIBLE.

Upgraded to Quicken 2019 after many years of using Quicken. The new version forced a new signup for Quicken Bill pay. It is now over three weeks without getting the bank authorization completed. Four calls to support. I've now been put on the high priority waiting list but told to call back in another week. Quicken is not taking responsibility. The support staff just says they are having problem with the vendor so not Quicken's problem. There is another serious aggravation that the upgrade deleted all of my online vendor so that everything now has to be entered again...if I ever get the bank authorized. I recommend that no one upgrade to Quicken 2019. Wait until 2020, maybe they will have it solved by then.

I must agree with the majority of reviews on this forum. I have been a Quicken user since early 2000 when I bought my first house. I use it for Bill Pay and account register tracking only. The former versions made my household budgeting so much easier. Now setting up bills takes TWICE the amount of time with a ton of bugs. Every time I try to schedule a bill in advance and select a future date - it reverts to the existing date which if not careful will drain your bank account. The recurring bill feature with the so called pdf bill view is useless and doesn't work the majority of the time.
Forget about trying to transfers from bank account to another in this interface. Also forget trying to track schedule deposits. I don't know what the management of this product was thinking when they decided to redesign it. It is so much worse. I've decided to leave using the product and I'm still trying to find a replacement that will handle my bill pay the way Quicken use to do so.

I have been a Quicken user since 1986, (32 years now) and it was originally a pretty good, pretty well-supported product. I have used various versions from that very early one up to and including QW2014. I will not upgrade further and will not pay them continuously for a failing product. First, I'm a retired 'techie' with 42 years of IT experience from beginning programmer to Database Administrator maintaining hundreds of databases on about 50 virtual server instances. Over the years I have dealt with numerous financial institutions, and have all my financial records, including years of investment account transactions housed in this product. As I have aged, my investment savings records have become far more important than cash and credit accounts records.
Granted over the years I made a few mistakes with Quicken in the area of retaining data in my current file. This is because I have experienced performance problems as the file grew, to the point it would take ten seconds or more for the update of a row of data in the register of all accounts. With my decades of experience in handling data, I know this has to be a structural problem. So the logical thing was to leave behind accounts I no longer used. HOWEVER, I made the mistake of leaving behind some of my retirement savings and investment accounts. Now I would like to have my complete investment history in a single complete file. This involves nearly 100 thousand transactions housed in about 15 different accounts from over the years, including various employer's 401k plans.
Intuit has apparently made some very poor design decisions in their 'secret' file formats, resulting in the lack of ability to export/import investment transactions between files. They blame this on their claim that investment accounts 'do not have a real transaction register'. All of my 32 years of Quicken data files have faithfully been upgraded and will all work with QW2014, so are 'version compatible'. However, they will no longer support the movement of my investment transactions between their own files. I have never used downloads from financial institutions, so that is not an issue. Now think about the situation. Quicken can visually present my investment transactions in a 'register' format. I can enter my investment transactions in that register. If they can 'build' the register, and I can manually create the data, why can't they export/import the same data to a different file?
They must have done something really, really stupid to create this problem and they should get it fixed. After having spent months of researching this situation, I've found no good method of fixing my data other than printing transactions lists from old files and manually re-keying my historical data into my current file. I know there are supposed to be ways you can 'hack' the investment transaction exports by editing the files that will supposedly allow this, but I shouldn't have to hack the vendor's own data to move it. With my 42 years of IT experience, I'm sure I could do this, but less technically inclined folks are going to be lost.
What with their oldest, most reliable long-term users aging and their retirement savings becoming far more valuable that cash accounts, it would make sense to fix this shortcoming so they retain long time users and create new ones. If I were not at an advanced age, I would be looking for and inviting other software developers and data architects to get involved and we would create a competing program with proper design details that would fix these problems. And we would use an open documented file structure that would provide performance and import/export capability.

I’ve been a Quicken user since 1994. Over the years the app has changed here and there but for the most part, you knew where things were and things made sense. I upgraded from 2007 version to take advantage of the $29.99/year Cyber Monday promo to try it out. I'm forecasting that the 2007 version of Quicken will probably not work once we go to Mojave which will drop 32-bit support. To note, I've read that you can cancel the auto-renew subscription, which I did, and the Quicken 2019 app is "supposed" to continue working even after the expiration date. We'll see.
Quicken is not an app to radically change the user interface, thinking changes will make it better. It’s been made much worse in this 2019 rendition of Quicken. GONE is the empty field at the bottom of your various registers, waiting for you to fill in the next transaction. Nope, now you have to hit a "+" icon and fumble through a clunky entry interface. GONE is the blue/white striped lines you’re used to. GONE is the Title, Payment, Debit on the top line, with Category Memo, and Open Split on the lower line. GONE is the accounts window you are used to. It’s now in sidebar and feels odd. Want to have two account windows open at once, one atop the other, checking and a CC for example, nope, not anymore. You can only be working in one account at a time. Pretty much everything you're used to has been erased from this application, and replaced with something… else.
It's tiring, companies reinventing the wheel thinking "Ah yes, this will be better. People will like doing things this different way." We don't like it. It worked just fine the way it was. It made sense and its unchanging nature over the decades was a good thing. It was reliable. You could upgrade and use it straight away. It didn't need to be overhauled to the point where long time users will need to re-learn how to use it.
To the meeting rooms that thought up this overhaul tactic for the age old, tried and true, Quicken that we all knew and liked, you didn't jump the shark here. You completely blew it. 100% failure. You should've just polished up the existing one. Instead you lost all the good familiar elements and replaced it with a bunch of useless tat and an awful, unintuitive, cluttered and clumsy user interface. This is bookkeeping software, not rocket science. Keep is simple. Less is more. Look to the past for design inspiration.

This company thinks we should go through the process of setting the whole damn thing up again. The same MORONS did not realize that some people have ten bank accounts and hundreds of PAYEES.

I started using this platform when it was Andrew Tobia's Managing Your Money, that's probably a 20-year run. There were always updates that you could pay for, but there were very few times that an update was necessary to continue functioning. The latest update is also a transition from Intuit software to yet another owner. New user IDs needed to be set up, new security, and now Quicken is a subscription service. Despite promises of improvements, the new software is abysmal. Every second or third time I start the software there's an update or patch, and they have degraded rather than improved the software.
Last week I was on the phone for over 4 hours, until 7 PM on a Friday night, with tech support, trying to figure out why the balance in the register did not match the balances in the Account Bar for my primary credit card. After hours of file validation, super validation, restoring back up files, ad nauseum the tech decided that the data file must be corrupted.
More time was invested in setting up new accounts and copying old transactions into them to maintain the history, only to discover that all of the budget category assignments are lost on 3 months of newly downloaded transactions that were not copied (since they were available online). Then, when I went to use the program today the problem resurfaced in my primary checking account. I'M DONE! They were very quick to refund my annual subscription. But now I probably have no access to syncing accounts or paying bills. This appears to be a company that is doing everything possible to go out of business.

I have used Quicken software and Quicken Bill Pay for 15+ years and upgraded to the annual premium Quicken with free Bill Pay. Beware, they don't transfer the old Quicken Bill pay account and you are forced to set up a new user ID and password and have to go through the verification process to get the account approved. Setting up bank accounts is not as easy as it was before when you entered the bank account information, routing number, waited two or three business days for micro deposits to the account, and the account was approved. That is not the case with the new version. You have to set up the account, then wait a couple weeks for them to send you a secure email which requires you to have to set up another password to view.
They require you to send in copies of voided check, driver's license, current utility bill, and your Social Security card or something to verify your Social Security number. The whole process is very confusing and time consuming. You would think they could use the old bill pay information and just transfer over my bank accounts. After almost a month, I think I am almost there with the conversion, but beware it will be time consuming so don't close the old bill pay account until the new one is up and running. You also have to go into the Quicken software and add Bill Payment with new user ID password to connect the software, so you don't get charged the monthly $9.95 fee. My conversion process to Quicken 2018, now 2019 software itself was simple and everything seems to be working.

Eventually I called the Quicken telephone support line (per Quicken instructions). Call was answered quickly and when I explained the problem he immediately wanted online access to my system. It being Quicken I allowed it. He ran several utilities on my system and one after another he found a problem that he had a solution for - the first being my anti-virus software which he said was ineffective and suggested another which was not free. Secondly he found that this particular account's file was "corrupted" on my computer and as a solution I could buy an 8 (I think) or a 10 year subscription to Quicken for $199 or $299 that he would be happy to install.
I declined and he ended the call. I will not darken their telephone support line again and hope that I can find software that will not subject me to this kind of blatant hustle. If I could be done with Quicken I would be! The answer I found today. After right clicking on the file's name and bringing up the edit/delete window, going to the online tab and clicking on reset and then waiting a couple of minutes while Quicken contacts the system from where the data is downloaded, the problem was solved. All done in less than 2 minutes -not the 30 minutes I spent with this fellow while he was doing nothing but putting on a show while trying to sell me something. Note this is NOT Intuit. Quicken 2018 is definitely a downgrade from what Quicken used to be under Intuit. Unfortunately there isn't much choice in this software arena anymore. I'm guessing there will be soon given the number of 1 star reviews on this site. Arithmetic is easy, and should be a given for a finance software tool. And yet I find incorrect totals frequently that do not correct themselves until I log out and log back in. It means I can't trust the numbers I see, which is the most basic function of a home finance software platform.
But far worse than the bugs is the third-party Quicken Bill Pay partner (Metavante Payment Services). Not only is the service and user interface horrible, but they are blatant thieves. I decided to give them a try, but after a month I couldn't use the service anymore. It was just awful, and I almost missed a bill because I didn't get the notification. I never had those types of problems using my online banking, so I went back to their bill pay service. I canceled my Quicken Bill Pay, and thought that was the end. Two months later they took money out of my account. I never authorized it, and I had done nothing that would have warranted additional charges according to the terms & conditions I agreed to. I called and pointed out the mistake. They tried to show me where I was wrong, but the terms they showed me actually proved I was right. They opened a ticket for a refund. Keep in mind this is only $5. The claim was denied with no explanation.
The thought of them doing this to their thousands of customers and profiting from it irked me to no end, so I decided to follow up again. Once again I was directed to terms and conditions that backed up my position. I was told a supervisor would call me back. That never happened. I called again and they told me they would open another request for a refund. I told them that wasn't good enough, I needed to talk to supervisor. I've still not gotten a call back, and never got a refund.
The fact that a company would go to these lengths to keep $5 that they clearly do not have a right to tells you all you need to know about them. And based on the justification they gave me for not refunding the money, my hunch is that they are overcharging all of their Quicken customers. They get away with it because the dollar amounts are low enough that people don't notice or don't bother to go after them. It seems like this would be a great opportunity for a class action lawsuit. I'm volunteering to be a plaintiff if anyone wants to take the case just because they annoy me so much. And I hate to think of all the people they are stealing from because they aren't savvy enough to know they can usually pay their bills online for free through their bank.

I signed up for Quicken Premier 2018 because of the "FREE" Bill Pay feature. At the first month, they charged me 9.95, which I assumed was an error, but it turns out that I never finished the 4th step of the setup, which activates the service, so they charged me the full pay. The first customer service agent helped me get the service activated and then offered to reverse that charge, but 5 days later I got an email saying they would not reverse that charge.
2 weeks later, I received a charge for $5 for exceeding the 15 transaction limit per month. I don't have that many transactions, so I had to have the customer service rep walk me through the transactions. Turns out they count receiving a bill and paying the SAME BILL as TWO separate transactions. I have automated rules set up for everything, so they only handle each bill once.
Well, they got me for $15 and they refuse to give it up. I would stick with them, but I can't stand the nickel and dime attitude and the deceptive practices. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't delete everything from my bank bill payment system (FREE), because I'm going back to that. tl;dr I do NOT recommend Quicken Billpay. Maybe they'll get their act together one day, but this is not that day. I will likely also report this to the consumer protection bureau because I think it was very deceptive.

Ok, I finally was on-board with the need to update every three years. $50 every three years to be able to auto-download from my credit card companies was palatable. Now I see a message on my Quicken 2015 that my auto-download is ending and I must update. I go to their site and find that they have increased my cost by 300% or a total of $150 every three years instead of $50.
No way, no how will I pay an annual subscription fee. Quicken had a protocol where you would need to update about every 36 months (maybe a bit more). If you didn’t upgrade you lost the ability to automatically download from your credit cards. So it was about $50 every three years to upgrade. Now if I wanted to be frugal I would have just downloaded the files from each site and imported them. During a three year cycle, the annual subscription fee is equivalent to a 300% increase. Nope – I won’t do it. Quicken will not get a dime from me for any future upgrades and I will go back to the manual downgrade / import of the files. I have used Quicken (for Mac) since its inception and have upgraded regularly. Since upgrading to 2018 I have had nothing but problems. I have lost transactions, been unable to download from institutions and the last time I ran it the program was "saving to Quicken 2016," which I didn't think was even on my computer. I've spent hours with tech support but each time there is a partial fix and I manually update my registers something else goes haywire and I am back to lost info and am unable to reconcile through online. We have been satisfied, loyal Quicken customers since the early 90's. No more. Quicken-TurboTax-Intuit has exploded & gone separate ways. The purchasers of Quicken have decided to gouge the existing customer base. With little warning, Quicken disables all account downloads from existing financial accounts. The software will not link directly to financial institutions & will not import downloaded transaction files. This is Quicken's way of forcing customers to pay $60-$100 per year for their new subscription service... Which is buggy & doesn't work as advertised. We have worked with Quicken through many changes over decades. This heavy handed approach not only gives the finger to long standing customers. IT MOTIVATES US TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE... ANY ALTERNATIVE... And spread negative word of mouth forever! Congratulations, Quicken. You have destroyed your customer base in one fell swoop.

I bought the premier Quicken with free bill pay (found out later it's only free for a limited time). Per their instructions I needed to setup a new bill pay account, I did. Spent an entire month back and forth with customer service. I had to call them every few days to get updates. I was denied 2 days after my 30 day guarantee ran out to return my new quicken. No explanation, just, it's been denied. I have an excellent credit rating, go figure their denying me. After an hour I did get my money back. I'm done with Quicken.

I responded to a Quicken community comment and was censored. Quicken doesn't want the word to get out about how crappy their subscription service is, how their bill pay feature doesn't work, and how long time Quicken users are appalled about the subscription service, the cost, and the reviews are horrendously bad on service, product, features (that don't work), etc.. I replied to two posts (one in response by Quicken Harold that Mac users had a "slimmed down version") (and I noted that we didn't have a slimmed down price, which did not go over so well, apparently) and both were censored:
This reply has been removed by Quicken: Funny how we MAC users don't have a SLIMMED DOWN PRICE for the slimmed down version of Quicken. Just bought the 2017 Quicken for Mac today which should tide me over to 2020. Really pissed off about the subscription service, particularly since MAC users get such a slimmed down (read poor) product to begin with. Shame on Quicken/Intuit or whoever you are now. Not happy with this new "model" of ripoff.

To all my friends and family who may be using Quicken for their finances. WARNING!!! We have been using Quicken for years but things have changed since. They are no longer owned by INTUIT. We upgraded to Quicken 2017 last year and have had security problems ever since. Calling the support line today they said that our security settings were corrupted DUE TO THE FACT WE DID NOT UPGRADE to Quicken 2018. They offered that if we paid a $250 ransom ($200 for support and $50 for Quicken 2018) they would restore our files. Again they said if we had purchased the latest version EVERY year when it came out it would not have happened. We will be getting off Quicken and I would highly suggest you do the same, they are no longer a reputable company and your financial data is at risk.

I have been using Quicken's versions since 1999. In the last few years every new version is buggier. Every couple of months I suddenly have issues downloading financial transactions from banking sites that were working just fine. Last Saturday, Quicken would not launch at all and just offered an error message that said "There is a problem with the Quicken installation. Uninstall and reinstall Quicken." Which is bad enough but to do that I need to access the installation program since I have the 2018 subscription. So I go to Quicken.com to log in to my account and on every browser I try I get this error messages: "This site can’t provide a secure connection. Signin.quicken.com uses an unsupported protocol. ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH. Unsupported protocol. The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite."
Three hours of phone calls later (four days have now elapsed) I still can't run Quicken and can't access my account to redownload the software to even try and fix this. Every technical support person has a different explanation for what's going on but none can help me. I asked to talk to a supervisor and been told there are none available. I asked for escalation and was told they have no way to contact them. This company is horrible and if I can ever access my financial information again, I will do everything I can to find an alternative to Quicken. This company should be out of business.

I've used Quicken Bill Pay for 15 years with various versions of pre-2018 Quicken. I upgraded to the subscription-based Quicken 2018 in part because Quicken Bill Pay is included at no charge. Previously, I paid $12.95 per month for the service. I upgraded to Quicken 2018 in January and saw that I was charged $12.95 in February for the bill pay service. Then once again, I was charged $12.95 in March. I assumed that somebody in accounting made a mistake, so I called Quicken Bill Pay to ask them to stop charging me the monthly fee.
I was horrified to learn that I had to create an entirely new account and submit numerous documents to "prove my identity" - even though I provided all of these documents before. I sent an email to their support, and over 24 hours later, have STILL not received a response. Nowhere in the fine print for Quicken 2018 did it say I had to start from scratch with Quicken Bill Pay. When one updates to the new Quicken (2018), one hopes for the followings to happen: 1. The old historic transactions of older versions would be transferred smoothly to the new program as it happened with older versions. 2. Support online and by phone will be improved. 3. Transactions will be smoothly and correctly downloaded.
But the above are illusions and reality check shows the followings: Old files from previous versions are practically butchered. To make certain that Quicken takes unfairly control over the past data, the older version is uninstalled and old data becomes unusable in the new version. Furthermore, as problem occur - transactions are not downloaded, accounts (mostly with Citibank) are not recognized, the only offered solution is starting with such accounts from scratch - but only 3 months back from the day. Should one be so naive to trust Quicken in preparing the IRS return data, the surprise is unpleasant. Only 3 months banking and credit cards data is available.
Support is based in Guatemala - good and clear English but quite lost in resolving Quicken new problems of transfer to 2018 Quicken. Soon the transactions download becomes a major issue. Regular support agents would waste few hours of the user's time without finding a solution. The supervisors are equally unable and offer two unreasonable solutions: Make a manual adjustment to reconcile online balance (correct) with Quicken incorrect/imaginary balance, or, Go back line by line and verify where Quicken didn't do it correctly. Reviewing manually hundreds of transactions to enter many corrections is not very practical.
Why should one buy and pay for a program that requires more work rather than performing what the program advertised to perform? It is sad that rather than finding solutions, Quicken, now under a new management, succeeds to get by with false claims and excuses. Managing banking and credit cards on Excel and manually downloading data proves to be 100% accurate and less stressful than Quicken as everything is manageable and easily controllable.

They will not transfer over anything from the old account to the new account, and I'm still waiting for them to complete their end of the account setup and approval. In addition, the new account now shows a second monthly premium even though it’s supposed to be free with the 2018 version. They have also moved their technical support to Guyana (worst ever). I asked a number of times for USA support, but they couldn’t reach them so they submitted a ticket. No one from USA technical support ever called back.
Finally, after 3 days I got through to a USA technical support guy just to have him write a service ticket to some other department. Horrible Quicken Billpay and Technical Support service since Quicken separated from Intuit. One further note, I received an encrypted e-mail from Quicken Billpay using an unknown third-party website. That website wanted me to register with personal information before displaying the Quicken message (I didn’t register). The USA technical service guy said that the Quicken Billpay online messaging system was broken and that the Quicken software people couldn’t fix it, so they started using that third-party mail service (wow). Randomly delivers faulty calculations for the simplest algorithms (share price x share quantity = total value). One major frustration: Manually entering security quotes seems to randomly corrupt price history. The user is left with a blank field that cannot be populated. The error requires one to completely delete all transaction info about the stock, nix the security entirely, and manually re-enter the data. Operations that were once automated and transparent now require hours of repair work. Quicken is at the heart of my complex financial life, but I've given up hope. Please... The program takes an inordinately long time to process transactions and therefore cannot be kept current with any reasonable amount of data entry time.
I've contacted Quicken multiple times and have been told various things including my file code is corrupt, my file is too large, my computer is not sufficient to run the program... SO, I downloaded Quicken again to a completely new computer which is dedicated for only running this accounting program. I didn't use my old file, I reinput every account, bill and service as a new file and the results were the same, slow, crashing, inability to update data because it links incorrectly with online accounts. I honestly believed that Quicken would have by now been on top of the user and business friendly features that I have been waiting to see for at least five years. Nope, THEY DON'T LISTEN. Because of this, I have dumped them in the trash and will never use them again.
Here are a list of my complaints: Tool bar no longer has business items available making it time consuming and inconvenient to get where I need to go. Ridiculous.
Cannot remove the "PDF" or "linked to Biller" columns from Reminder Views. I will never link to a biller or download anything online except investments and would appreciate the choice to see these worthless columns to save space while I multitask. When creating an invoice, the customer address does not appear on the invoice, WTH??? To access Customer List, must "add new Customer" then escape. More waste of my time. I use Intuit Turbo Tax and have done so for many years - great product! This is not about Intuit, Inc., this is about the off-shoot company called Quicken 2018 (I believe). Quicken has several companies such as Quicken Loans which is not Intuit either. Quicken 2018 will continue to sell Quicken as a continuously upgraded service as a subscription. So you will not purchase a version of Quicken any longer - just the currently available software that the subscription service is using, which they will continuously update.
I have used the Quicken Personal Finance software since Quicken 1, I believe. It has always been sort of 'half-baked', but a usable program, and I successfully maintained my checkbook and other accounts for years ranging all the way up to the Premiere version while I did intensive stock market trading for about 10 years. The product was always just about at the line between useful and worthless, but I could always make it do what I needed - and the results were reproducible. I always created printed reports of the information to make sure of it - that is how confident I was of it.
In later years I used the download features to get info from the financial institutions a few years after it became available. Until after a couple of years later, when I had a lot of trades, the downloads suddenly began to make multiple entries - granted this might well have been my fault, but the result was that I had to spend a huge amount of time to undo what it did to my registers, even when taking into account the ability to back up to the latest 'good' register. (I found it faster to determine which ones were bad and delete them rather than regress even one day!) All that to say I never used the download feature again. It was faster to input the amounts manually into the only really reliably functional part of their software - the register.
I intensively used Quicken 4, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14 and just this January 1, 2018 switched from Quicken 2014 to Quicken 2018. (I found that Quicken 4, 7 and 14 were pretty reliable.) The transfer from 2014 data into Quicken 2018 was flawless. I had only one minor issue with passwords when I first started Quicken 2018 which was quickly cleared up by an explanation on the site when I was forced to log in.
They explained that they were changing from Intuit - Quicken to their own so - OK, no problem, another password. (Later I found out that it was not so easy a problem for a myriad of others who kept getting the password intercept - but more on that later). I had entered about six months of the years' data on Jan 1 and went on to add the subsequent six months in the next few days. It takes about one day all day (10 hours) to enter, confirm, reconcile and print the reconciliation reports for the accounts I use covering each month's data. This is a considerable amount of work.
When I completed the entry, I began the process of consolidating the data for tax purposes by making the reports for which I have already produced report templates which only have to be updated (Quicken has always done a decent job of allowing past reports to be used as templates for the new reports and warning you of changes, etc). I was part way through the reports when I noticed that things were not right any longer. Information that I knew I had entered was no longer there. (In one case I printed a report and the report was now suddenly different.) - New data was coming out of nowhere! They appeared to be random. I shut down and reloaded the program and things seemed right again.
I went to the help pages and after finding nothing about it, I decided to query the web. I came up with all kinds of complaints! Not difficult stuff, but simple stuff that an experienced company should not be having trouble with - such as, log on failures, data missing, features that used to work no longer working, inability to install? What?
So I went to the website to see what was going on and was referred to the 'Quicken Community', where I was assured that I would find the answers to all my questions and the help of many knowledgeable people. I found instead complaint after complaint of people who were trying to get logged onto the product and were unable to. The help desk people were completely inept according to the writers and they were being put on backlog for days at a time.
At this point I was still wanting the company to make this product go - I began to answer some of the questions on the Community - in a few days I was up to almost 600 points on entries alone. Some of them were pretty difficult and took me several hours to research and suggest a solution. Some I just informed them of my experience with the issue and how I addressed it. In all I spent the next four or five days answering questions that took much of my time and effort. Then I answered one question - apparently incorrectly - and the whole situation came into great clarity for me - the problem is that the new 'business' has no clue as to what they are doing - they are inept at best. They think that they ARE the answer - not the customers. The customers are 'things' that they in their infinite wisdom must put up with. In other words, they have an 'attitude' problem - one of intense arrogance - one that I am fairly certain that they will not recover.
I quickly went looking for a replacement program, looking at MINT (what a joke) and YNAB (not bad, but way too expensive) and others - I ran across Moneyspire 2018. About $30. It does everything that Quicken does at about the Deluxe level (near as I can tell). Some things are done differently and will take some getting used to, but I was able to transfer all of the data from Quicken 2018 by exporting from Quicken with the QIF export (nevermind that BS about not supporting certain accounts) select and let it export.
After a few minutes, The file will be complete. Open the newly installed Moneyspire 2018 program, give your new file a name, select the date format and at the next window where it asks about 'new accounts or input QIF'. Select the import, point it at your Quicken QIF file and tell it to import. It might take 20 minutes to half hour or more depending on how much data was in the QIF file (my QFD was a 34M data file in Quicken - I didn't check the size of the QIF). When it was done, there was all of my data - 99% intact. But I wanted to be able to go back to Quicken 2014 in case the Moneyspire didn't work (or even if it does, so that I can look at past data on Quicken 2014 if I wanted to without having to import it into Moneyspire) so I wanted to transfer the last six months of data from the Quicken 2018 to Quicken 2014.
So I opened Quicken 2014 on another computer and used it to install Quicken 2014 without a QCURR file, then attempted to import the QIF that the new Moneyspire accepted without a problem, but Quicken 2014 could not do it - it said that the data was from a newer level of the program - I would like to know how it could tell!! I looked at the QIF files in Notepad. I could not determine anything that should have given it a hint so I decided to go ahead with the old version of the QCURR that I had backed up from the conversion to 2018. Then I created separate QIF files for each of the accounts that had data changes. I went into each of these files and removed superfluous information and imported these files one at a time into 2014 with only minor hiccups, but figuring it out was almost a toss-up between copying the data by typing from one to the other.
(I forgot to mention that I also tried exporting to a spreadsheet assuming that I could import from the spreadsheet - nope, won't do it - unbelievable! I have a hunch that Quicken had already determined that the only reason that they were still in business was that people had so much invested in them already. Why else would they go to so much trouble to disable the QIF that their competitors were using while not allowing QXF, their new transfer format, to operate reverse while at the same time not accepting QIF for but accepting QIF for one at a time - I didn't try to put the files together and run them all at once, but I think that would have worked. The thing that told them that it was an file was in the front of the file, but I didn't know what to look for. I could have put the individual QIF files back to back in a single QIF and it would have loaded each account appropriately. Just my guess - didn't try it.)
My decision is looking pretty good right now. Moneyspire reports are not as robust as Quicken's, but they are adequate, simpler, not variable so you have to set things up differently. These differences are keeping me from considering making the conversions to Moneyspire on the old stuff. Now I am back in business. I think that I am being very generous to Quicken regarding the 1-star. I would rank it lower if I could. It is a real shame because the Quicken 2014 was getting to the point where it was a really good low level entry product for maintaining account registers.
they finally had that working quite flawlessly after 25 - 30 years only to louse it up with poor programming in 2018 - no doubt some ** know-it-all changed some programming because he couldn't understand why anybody would want it that way and threw away 25 years worth of experience - probably because he thought that experience is merely another form of conspiracy theory.
So long Quicken - you will NOT be missed - but I sure as heck could have gotten along for years without your final pile of BS. I hope you enjoyed my response to it. I must admit that I probably would not have told another soul about this whole business had it not been for someone who thinks he runs your 'Quicken Community' - what a joke! I will take a lot from a lot of people, but he severed my relationship with your company in a hurry and I wonder how many others feel the same way. It was enough to tip me over the edge from 'they are trying really hard', to 'they know they are failing and won't admit it, so they lie to their users to cover it up - blame the user when all else fails'.
One of the Super users even touted to a business owner how the superior nature of the Quicken software was hard for many people (without their superior knowledge) to understand so the user's approach was tedious and odd - I hope that guy dumps them also. How arrogant is that? This is a community - this super-user is no more super user than I am and he was telling this guy that his approach was lacking - like he actually had some way to know that? I use the method described myself on occasion and find it superior for some instances. It would have been one thing to suggest an alternative, but he told him in so many words that his method was not in keeping with the model of their superior product - good grief! Who needs that kind of help?

This time around they are forcing you to create a new account. You lose all your payee's, and it takes up to two weeks to get your new account working again. Their instructions are limited and not very clear. As a web developer myself, I find it very hard to believe that they did not come up with an automatic conversion process so you do not have to go thru this process. In my opinion I have been harassed by Quicken to update. This has been an ongoing problem for years, which I have ignored until I eventually updated on multiple occasions. On two occasions I have experienced what appeared to be a virus attack on this software and proceeded online with Quicken support to resolve the problem.
On the first occasion I paid a fee for onetime service to correct the problem of my data corruption. On the second occasion I refused their service and decided to abandon Quicken. It is my belief that this is a deliberate attack orchestrated by Quicken itself to sell support and to push users to pay for new software. I will no longer play this game with them. I am the type of user that upgrades every 3 years and like it because it is the cheapest way to go. Now, the new owners are switching to a recurring revenue model so every user needs to pay an annual subscription fee, which I hate.
I purchased a downloaded version of Quicken Deluxe 2017 that will carry me through 2020, at which time I expect some competitor will offer a desktop version that will not require annual fees. All that Quicken is looking for is a recurring revenue stream and don't care about the quality of their product. With Quicken, you are constantly being nagged to log in to quicken - about every ten times or so, so as to reduce the pirating of their software. Have been using this since it was on a floppy, now here it is years and years later and the program and support is for the birds. USELESS folks putting out a botched and seriously flawed program! Have never trashed them before but now. Quicken 2016 Home & Business (upgraded from 2013 because of being forced to by greedy marketers who disconnect your version at 3 years). That should have been enough but yet I kept using and now, NOW! It is a joke. With the latest greedy update (I think 14.1) they have inserted a line of code in my QDATA file that now makes me wait for 30 seconds before even showing me my login for my QDATA file!! AND the delays instilled in institution downloads is ridiculous. The program is now more of an annoyance and irritation than a help.
Their "get satisfaction" website is a joke too. They censor and edit your posts until the root meaning of your post is lost! AND now they want to do a subscription service??? Are you kidding? The last thing I want is some stinkin' cloud server accessing my data file! It's bad enough that there is a proxy server that every single bit of financial information of yours goes through! I guess with all this technology it has come full circle back to the use of Excel or just a regular old bank register!
Forget about service and support! USELESS! This is now owned by a financial management group hellbent on PROFITS and profits only! No care whatsoever for you and your purchase and your issues...ONLY PROFIT. That is the downfall of this program. Perhaps the "millennials" like it because they don't know any better. Your financial information should live on your machine and your machine only! It won't with Quicken anymore. AND what info are they gleaning from everyone's financial information? I wish they had left it as a standalone program that lives on my machine only.
For all those with slow start issues... It is in your QDATA file, not the program files on your machine but YOUR PRIVATE FINANCIAL DATA FILE which apparently some igit at Quicken has access to!!! Otherwise there would be no delay in opening the file AND...if you disconnect from the internet and open your file it is almost instantaneous. NO DELAY. YOU do the math!!!

I've used Quicken since early 1990's. Over the last several years, the program has gotten worse and worse, but especially so starting with the 2016 version. Now in the 2017, it's virtually unusable. Crashes constantly, even though I've done the "mondo patch", validated my data files, etc. It's not me... it's Quicken. The program is also painfully slow. It takes several seconds between every single field entry. Not just an entire register entry... every single field in a check register entry. Tab between entries. Wait... wait... oh there it is.
Finally, I also recently found out that Quicken actually stores my personal banking information on their cloud servers for at six months even when doing a manual bank transaction download. There's no reason for them to do that. I've now had to resort to exporting transactions from each bank account, then manually importing them into each Quicken register. Because of the prevalence of hacking into the most "protected" of cloud services... think credit bureaus, medical records, etc. etc., there's no way I want any of my personal data online. But Quicken does that and doesn't tell you how long they're keeping the data.
This program is absolutely the worst I've experienced recently. Oh yes... and don't think you can go backwards to a well-running Quicken. After three years previously the software is disabled. I understand that starting with Quicken 2018, that'll be shortened to two years, forcing yet another "update" to possibly an even bigger mess. There must be a desktop software somewhere that acts similarly to the old Quicken.

Quicken Deluxe 2017 - One of the basis of Quicken's existence is in the managing of a Checking type account, which is a mirror of a paper checkbook register that you and I used to deal with before using Quicken. Other types of accounts in Quicken use the same methodology and therefore the logic that drives the maintenance of the account that is the same or similar. The specific function that I'm having some trouble with is the RECONCILE function. It starts with a small window that requests important information. That being: 1) The Ending date of a period of time (like a Month); 2) The Starting Balance of money for the period of time, and 3) The Ending Balance of money in the period of time on that date.
Once this is accepted, the next window in the sequence is the two sided window showing all the additions and subtractions from the account in question. Most of the operational action takes place in this window. BUT - in order to make any progress in the second window and subsequently in the overall balancing of the period of time in question, that small window mentioned at the beginning of the sequence is absolutely required.
The problem at this time is that the small window is NOT BEING SHOWN and therefore the account can not be properly balanced!!! Where is that window in the sequence? I have been able to determine that this problem is showing up in only 2 of the 15 accounts that I have in place at this time. The other accounts in my file process as they should just fine. This problem has only started in the past week or two, about. And I know that it started after the update to Rel 10 (a bad word I have found out) on or about Aug 22, 2017. I have been attempting to research this bug, but can't find any information or work around for it. After all the years of operation using Quicken (of many versions), I have been able to find work-arounds for problems that I find. But I haven't been able to determine a course of action for this one.

After being a loyal customer since graduation from college (1990), it's finally time for me to ditch Quicken. I've upgraded each time the version I was using was losing its support. Then perhaps about 2010, I started upgrading regularly when a newer version became available. Well, I really regret upgrading to 2016. I've had nothing but one downloading issue after another. Always getting a message that the account was updated when it wasn't. Or that I had to "reactivate" the same accounts to avoid seeing the error messages. Which turned out to be not true at all. Currently, I have 4 accounts that can't be updated in Quicken without having to go through the process of "fixing" it and the account still will not update. Now the errors I'm getting tells me that my password/ username info is incorrect. Again... Not true!! Now I have to decide if I just keep manually updating the accounts or switch to a new product!

Every release of Quicken is worse than the previous release. The latest Windows update of Quicken 2017, called R10, is a success, in that it's so bad, it's generating thousands of complaints on the company-moderated forum, and Quicken have taken to deleting the most researched and eloquent posts and replies. If they could fire Mueller, they would.
They have sunk so low, they are openly mocking customers. Every day there are many new posts about R10 failing on automatic updates, with a bug that cannot be overcome, and often those posts are greeted with the reply that this is the first the bug has been reported. This bug has been outstanding for several weeks, and some customers report they have reverted to using Excel or switched to other personal finance products. Customer support hangs up if you call and say "R10". Literally. On both chat and the phone. Which is fine, as they clearly don't use the product. And their proficiency in English is modest and limited, so don't use nuance or idiomatic expressions.
The CEO, Eric Dunn, is oblivious to the poor quality of the product. His latest communication with customers (and communication with Mr. Dunn is a one-way street) is a promise to add many new features to Quicken, and no acknowledgement of the poor quality of the current product and no commitment to improvement. Donald Trump is not the only chief executive who is in way over his head and out of his league. In his defense, no one has presented evidence that Mr. Dunn has direct ties to Vladimir Putin.

I have been using Quicken since inception, we were forced to purchase Quicken 2015 which offered little to no benefit, but now a major problem is unable to connect 2015 to Wells Fargo. Honestly, I believe they are trying to push 2017 or 2018 onto their customers. In looking at the Intuit site and the complaints "The conversation is now closed" after three complaints about the issue. (problem started 3 day's ago) Instead of patch, now we have to remove Quicken from the computer entirely, start over again with the original disc and add the patches. I have now opted to download and add, since WFC charges $3 per month, and the updates have a lag of 2-3 days with Quicken so I will add manually.

Quicken 2015 failure - I've used Quicken for at least 15 years, maybe more. The experiences over the years with their support has been marginal at best, requiring forking over small amounts, $35 or so for sometimes bad solutions after a version's warranty had expired, but nothing like the one I just had, with Quicken's "advanced" (read, stick it to you hard for $$$) support when, out of the blue, I began getting error code OL **, unable to "update."
After checking with my bank, who said the problem is with Quicken, I spent an hour with someone with a strong Indian accent, who said he couldn't fix it and was transferring me to "advanced" support. After an hour of razzle dazzle mumbo jumbo BS, he give me the price to solve the problem, starting with the least expensive at $499 for one year's "advanced" support.
I finally had to stop him and tell him how ridiculous he was. He finally went into a huff. My cynical nature suggests the situation has changed radically since Intuit sold Quicken to some hedge fund group, who are perhaps bent on wringing every possible dollar out of their old customer base. Maybe not. But this was the last straw. I'm done with Quicken. Fork tender. Now going with Mint (still owned by Intuit) and my own bank's online payment system. Bye bye Quicken, it was nice knowing you those first few years after I switched from "Managing Your Money", but these last few have been a huge headache.

Yes we all know that Quicken has been going downhill for years and the 2017 version seems to have put them just below the Marianas trench. Basically the only thing it does well is use up hard drive space. It's slow to load, does not connect to financial institutions, and when and if it does it will not update properly. Way too many problems to list here. It would be nice if we could start a class action suit and get our money back. But we all know they'll buy their way out of it. Save your hard earned money from the thieves at Intuit and just make yourself a nice Excel spreadsheet like I did. Problem solved.

I've been using Quicken since Quicken98 so been with them for awhile. I'm ok with paying them for use of a functional product and have been upgrading every 3 years since they started forcing this issue by terminating bank downloads as they did with Quicken2014 on 4/30/2017. I've been trying to clean up my QData file and get all the downloaded bank transactions accepted into the registers before upgrading. However, have so many I decided to see how the upgrade would go while keeping some of the entries unmatched, which was not recommended on the quick community.
That turned out to be a non-issue as Quicken 2016 has worked horrendously out-of-the-box (I went with Quicken 2016 rather than 2017 as I read that in Canada, users were being forced to pay annual subscription fee which I was not keen on and wary of even though I am in the U.S. Did a test install of Quicken2016 on a separate Windows 7 PC before putting it on my main machine. This has turned out to be a nightmare. First, after installing Quicken, converting my QData file from 2014 and then trying to open the file, Quicken started repeatedly prompting me for my Intuit userID and password. No matter how many times I reset the password on Intuit.com, I would get an error that an unexpected error had occurred and to please try again later.
When I searched to see whether others had encountered this, I discovered that others had and that there was a "Mondo" patch to install to address this. (Patch seems to be a virtual re-install of the whole product and also blows away your existing qdata file, it seems, or at least it needs to be re-converted). After applying this patch, now Quicken 2016 crashes after I enter the QData password before displaying the file. I finally decided to create a new QData file and discovered that that crashes as well so basically the program is useless. Am trying to re-install from scratch now again, though after reading all the other horrendous reviews of Quicken 2016 and 2017 on here and how people have given up on Quicken, I am sorely disappointed. I'm wondering if I will need to just continue using Quicken 2014 without the convenience of downloaded bank transactions, just to have a usable version of the program.

I have used Quicken, of and on since the mid-90's. I did switch to MS-Money because the interface (GUI) was more informative, better organized, for my needs, but MS apparently wasn't making enough money from Money, to keep that in production. Quicken has seemed to be changing its orientation to supporting mobile subscribers for at least the last three years and this has led them to do several things. 1) Is that they want a one size fits all package and 2) the average mobile device does not have the power, esp. data capacity to keep data local. So it seems that whether or not users have authorized Intuit to have their data online, having Quicken constantly check for an intuit password can give them access to all data regardless of the customer's consent. (That is just my suspicion, but it seems logical). I do not like that at all.
I track accounts in at least a dozen institutions with Quicken, since 2016 Quicken has had repeated problems with my primary bank, to the extent that I have quit trying to fix it. I just download the files direct from the bank and then import them. Now that was a pain in the rear, time consuming, but recently they have added a new kink, or perhaps I didn't notice, because I wasn't always on the road. I can no longer download and import later, unless I am on-line at the later time when I try to import. Totally unsatisfactory and it seems to verify my theory that basically they just want access to my financial data.
Last year Intuit sold Quicken to H.I.G. Capital, a financial management company. Now why would such a company find purchasing Quicken an attractive deal. I'm thinking it isn't the cash flow software sales is providing. There is no adequate replacement that I have found, so it seems I will be downsizing my financial footprint, and use one of my banks capabilities to track everything else. I don't like that, I'd prefer more control, but Intuit already ruined that.

I decided to upgrade to 2017 thinking it would solve the problems. Bad? I saved my work, only to find reconciled items were no longer reconciled. Items I entered in my check register disappeared. I had to re-enter a month or more several times. Just yesterday, prior to a reconcile, I input a new item. While in reconcile, added two more. Neither of these items showed up on the reconcile screen.
Impossible to balance accounts using Quicken. Even previous balances and dates changed! Finally, today, I made the time to get this taken care of once and for all. If you don't have unlimited minutes, don't even think of phoning due to wait times. Oh, Chat? Nothing like getting bumped off three times. Found them on Facebook and sent a detailed message. Oh, sorry... you can't save to flash drives, not even the Cloud. It has a tendency to corrupt files. I don't want personal stuff sitting on my hard drive -- not in this day and age. Like many people, I have been using Quicken for over 10 years and the earlier versions were pretty user friendly. Seems like lately they are making changes and not finding out any negative effects from the updates. It is July 14 2017 today, and I finally gave up trying to use this monstrosity. I get lots of double entries and this could be since I want to download my information from my Credit Union manually and not have Quicken really be in the mix. After the last download, my frustration for this program finally hit its peak. Right now it is not worth trying to clean up to keep it working. I have entries from probably 2005 or earlier, and most of the early years are OK, but in the past couple of months it is getting far worse.
I have the very latest updates installed on this program, and they only create more problems that they solve. You can see from most of the posts on this site that current versions of Quicken are almost unusable. Right now, I am looking for the best program that will resolve the type of problems that Quicken have come up with. I would be will to pay up to $50 for a good program that does not have such a complicated interface that it makes it almost impossible to use. Right now my copy of Quicken 2016 is so screwed up that it is probably unrepairable.
It seems almost impossible that they could so screw up a program in just the past few years. I had Quicken 2010, 2013, and now 2016, and it seems that each new version brings on unresolvable problems. It is time for me to move on from Quicken and am going to be seriously looking in 2107. Seems like all the ratings that you see for Quicken must be by people that don't actually use it. If you own and use any of the recent versions of Quicken, you quickly learn what all of the problems are.

I have been using this software for about a year now. The screens don't size to the window - when you open a window it is off the screen and you have to close it, scroll down and open the window again to select what you need. That is Computer Science 101. The budgeting software doesn't work at all. It will not find items from within the database itself. The options that were in 2012 are not in 2016. The bill pay and reconciliation features - which I would assume are the crux of this piece of software (and I use the term software oh so lightly) are quirky at best - not consistent at all. Total disappointment and unbelievable how a company could put this garbage on the open market. I am looking for a new piece of personal finance software to use. Lost all faith in Intuit as a company.

QuickBooks JUST KILLS ME! How can they just roll out a completely new look for the GUI and NOT TELL ANYBODY THAT IT IS COMING! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! In my opinion, the new format SUCKS and looks like an amateur webpage with more text and fewer app-like features. How can they possibly step backwards and implement a GUI that looks like this??? It is un-intuitive (no pun intended), no settings to change display size or amount of info that can be displayed on one screen! Have to scroll up and down to see the many different projects I have to enter time for. Why can Intuit just leave things alone, or AT LEAST tell users that this kind of dramatic change is going to be rolled out instead of just slapping the user up in the side of the head with it???
Now on to my Quicken 2017 iOS program. Got it up and running 6 months ago. All of sudden, two weeks ago it can no longer download Visa transactions from my Wells Fargo account. I've tried everything. This is due to the Quicken software update that they recently performed. Broke it. They did not test the update, not do they care it is broken. The only way I can fix it is to establish a new Visa account from within Quicken, connect to the back again, and then download 90 days worth of transactions from the bank, then MANUALLY copy older transactions over to the new account, reconcile, adjust balance, on and on! Lastly, it is impossible to email Intuit with any issue you have. You can call them and spend hours on the phone waiting for a service rep but they DO NOT WANT your email correspondence! It is that simple! Totally dissatisfied with Intuit on all levels and for all of their crappy products!

I have resisted Quicken in recent years, and now, I know why. I downloaded the deluxe version as I have some retirement accounts and a mortgage to track and started connecting to my accounts. This part was off to a good start as I saw the transactions had been entered, so I went off to the budget area to start sorting out. This is where things started to go bad and quickly.
First, when simply changing a value for a budget area: crash and report dialogue box shows up. Ugh. Restart the program and start tinkering with categorizing a budget. Quicken randomly just closes. Really? This is not good as I have no patience for this because unsaved work and whatnot. Reopen Quicken and within just a few minutes, 3 more random closes. That's it. That's all I needed to experience to see this was going to be a waste of $60+ dollars if I continued to use and fight the bugs. So, off to their website to find the terms for the full refund. We'll see how that goes. In the mean time, I will be quite happy entering data the old-ish fashion way into my spreadsheet.

Thank you Charles of Metairie, LA for the tip about GnuCash, I'm going to look at it as soon as I finish this complaint. As far as Tax software is concerned, I too used TurboTax for years until I started getting concerned about Intuit's control of my records - plus the price is ridiculous. It is FREE to file with CreditKarma. I used it this year - its first year - and it was great! My complaint: Quicken is trying to FORCE me to upgrade, but I PAID for the software that I have been using for the past 3 years and they should not be allowed to prevent me from using it! Their upgrades come at a significant cost of at least $100 and I should not be prevented from using the software I paid for unless I spend more money! I have been using Quicken for at least 20 years. About 10 years ago they started making it inconvenient if you didn't upgrade.
However this year they started with the inconvenient message asking you to upgrade - a message that you can't turn off. Then they turned off the downloading feature. Like Charles of Metairie, LA, my bank still allows downloading and it was working fine until April 30 - Quicken's deadline - when Quicken prevented the importing function into the software. I was mad, but I just started reconciling manually because I cannot afford to upgrade it - AND I'm angry that they are holding my money hostage unless I give them some of it!
Yesterday I started getting "unexpected error". If I click to deal with the error it shuts the program down. If I ignore the error I can continue working in the program. This morning when I tried to sign in I got the message asking me to upgrade, TWO "unexpected error" windows AND a fatal "COM error" that immediately shut the program down. After it shutdown I immediately opened it back up, got the upgrade and unexpected error windows but not the com error. I was able to do my business in the program and go on. This should NOT be allowed! There really needs to be a NO star option on this website.
