A 130% increase in price was auto charged to me without notification. I tried to cancel and was put in an endless loop what would never allow me to actually cancel. The loop always eventually sent me to a chat (no other choice) and then the chat person would sent me a cancellation link that would send me back to the beginning of the loop, where I would again land in a chat and over and over.

They re-renewed my subscription which I had canceled without my knowledge causing a charge to an old bank account I don't use anymore and an overdraft. I tried to request a refund and their system won't let you without speaking to a customer service agent. You get sent through their customer support chat which never actually connects you with an agent and therefore never lets you request a refund. This is predatory business practice.

I purchased Avast Premium Security for 10 devises on my Mac computers. My first installation for up to 10 devices didn't work, so I called Avast and asked to speak to technical support. After waiting for 20 minutes, I got someone to take my call. That person couldn't help me so I was transferred to someone else who would only allow me to communicate by text messaging only. I assume he didn't speak English. After another 30 minutes, he installed Avast.

Next day noticed my email wouldn't load content. I called tech support again. After waiting another 20 minutes on hold, I asked to speak to someone in tech support and was connected after a 10 minute wait. That person said I had to be transferred to someone else who could only communicate by text messaging. That took another 10 minutes. That person tried for 60 minutes to correct the problem of emails not loading content. He gave up and told me someone higher up would email me in 3 to 5 days! Maybe Avast is a great malware prevention software, but they sure suck at installation and customer support. Suggest you try a better user friendly software. Can't wait to install Avast on several more computers!

I purchased the $59.88 Avast Software annual package back in January. I had been using AVG Free up till that point. The AVG popups became too frequent so I switched. Within a few weeks of using Avast I noticed my computer randomly going into a Blue screen of death (BSOD). It would happen whenever I was accessing my Spare internal hard drives. I thought at the time that one of the drives was bad. So I replaced each 8TB drive one at a time thinking I would find the culprit as no Disk scan tools found any issues. I had 4 drives. That did not work...still got intermittent BSOD.

So I proceeded to replace my 750W Power supply with a 1000w supply and still no change. My local computer store said it was possibly the RAM so I replaced that. No change. Finally I thought Let me reload Windows 11 and hopefully that would help. It was running perfectly. The day After I wiped the drive and Installed Windows fresh I reinstalled Avast. Within 1 hr I got the BSOD. I was furious. I uninstalled Avast and have had no issues since. What do I do besides tuck my tail and walk away.

I would give it a 0 if it was possible. It all sounds very good but beware. You will automatically be signed up for a year long auto renewal subscription. Then I have no idea what the initial program does except scan for problems, but for every identified problem you have to purchase another Avast product for another year long auto renewal subscription. Then there are the several, incredibly annoying pop ups that keep interrupting every time I go on my computer. I HATE Avast!! And I have no idea whether it’s actually doing anything or not. When will this year finally be over and I can get this evil octopus off my computer?

Be very leary of this software company. They will take your payment and set it up as an autopsy through PayPal. I tried to cancel it 2 days after I noticed the transaction in my PayPal account. They never responded to the request. I had not used it for two years as I had another security software. A customer should get value from any purchase. They must be desperate to take $200 without a customer even using the security software without using it. Horrible.

I used Avast for a few months and decided that I wanted to removed them from my computer when I saw a $87 attempted charge on my credit card that I did not authorized. I uninstalled the program and it removed information from my computer that had nothing to do with their systems. My printer will not work properly and I getting several pop ups that I was not getting prior to installing their program. In my opinion, this is down to persuade you to reinstall. That I will never do.

The Avast Antivirus is a spammy popup that pops up on screen when booting up with a big red warning! The way to solve the danger is to pay! The popups do not have an unsubscribe like most other spam. I could go on and post screen shots and waste more time, but I am so tired of "Free" Antivirus Avast! For God's sake stop the pop ups and danger warnings, I had a tech look at my system and I do not have any thing dangerous. Yes, someone could hack into my computer, they can hack into any computer! Right now I feel that Avast has hacked into my computer!

    Original Review: Jan. 10, 2024

I purchased 2 programs - 1 in June 2023 ($49.99) and 1 in Nov 2023 ($99.99) from Avast Antivirus. I began receiving daily notices from Avast they no longer support Windows 8 which I have. My computer began to freeze up and I received messages I was unable to connect to the Internet. I contacted my cable CO and they sent out a tech who advised it was not their problem. I contacted a local Computer Tech Repair CO. He made a house call and advised me he needed to delete all the Avast programs. I agreed. They were uninstalled and now my computer works perfectly. I contacted Avast for a refund and was denied based upon their rules I have passed their 30 days for refunds. I now have to pay for services I can't use until NOV 2024. That is so unfair. I am 85 years old and on Social Security so I cannot afford to lose all that money.

Terrible and unprofessional customer support. I had to politely beg for a refund for a charge that was automatically renewed without my authorization. The entire request lasted 30 minutes while the customer support agent named Kennedy, attempted to exhaust me with alternatives and delayed responding for nearly 5 minutes. The agent tried to exhaust me by asking several times why I wanted a refund and tried to only offer a 75% partial refund.. It was quite obvious their intentions were to frustrate me and delay the entire process.

This agent also made underlying taunting & mocking comments of my Asian heritage last name -- which was quite obvious and extremely unprofessional. It was difficult to maintain my composure but I continued to say thank you and please to my requests despite the constant disrespect that I had received. I was really happy with Avast programs and features but I will never ever do business with Avast ever again because of this. I have never written a ConsumerAffairs review either or a 1-star review. Ever. So I hope this can speak volumes to my experience.

Avast makes a good product with lots of extras. The anti-virus program works very well, slows your computer very little (assuming that the computer is fairly new). I love the product and it has a lot of add-on tools - too many! Avast Premium Internet Security is just fine for most people. Avast is broken down into too many components, each of which you have have to pay for. To get the total package is very expensive. Watch your install as Avast often includes bloatware that, if you're not careful, is easy to miss.

Avast, like many companies today, always puts auto-renew on every purchase. Auto-renew CAN be turned off but it's tricky to find. Just one ploy of modern sales, turn on auto-renew and hope people don't notice or don't complain. For myself, if the company does not allow you to turn off auto-renew, watch out! I've run into this with a number of software programs and, if they don't allow it to be turned off, I cancel my subscription and take it off my computer but I usually do tell them why they're losing customers.

But my computer would not boot up and a white screen kept flashing. I was on the phone with customer support for 2 hours and finally at the end they told me I needed to pay for additional support to resolve the problem. After I complained and demanded that they fix what they broke they fixed the issue in 2 minutes. Beware the upsell. I'm past the 30 day period since my last renewal so I cannot get refunded I will not be renewing again.

They billed me anyway after I thought it was canceled and when I checked out again they said I had not turned auto-renewal off, which I thought would have been done when they told me I was unsubscribed and canceled. I could not even find my account to turn that off and had to start the cancellation process all over again. For an antivirus company they seem very shady as far as their billing, unsubscribing and cancellation process goes.

DO NOT buy from Avast. Their website says try free for 60 days and also, 30 money back guarantee. I tried it for 3 days and it did not work as expected. Found out they charged my charge card for 1 year subscription. Went online and hit the cancel tab. Went straight to India troubleshooting. The guy wanted to reconfigure my computer to see if it will work correctly. I would not allow him to do that. He gave me the sales dept number that I needed to call to cancel and get a refund. Once again back to India to a salesperson I could hardly understand. She wanted to send me back to tech support. I said I wanted a refund. She said, "We do not do refunds." I reminded her that the website said 60 day free trial and 30 day money back guarantee. She left and came back to the phone 5 minutes later.

She tried to read off a list of all kinds of software that she wanted to give me instead of a refund. I again told her no. She then said she could not find my confirmation number or email that was used to purchase. I got very upset and loud. She then said, "Ok I found it and I will issue a refund." And, that she will email a cancellation refund confirmation. 8 hours later I received an email they cannot find my order and wanted more information. I contacted PayPal and put the order into dispute and will be contacting my bank tomorrow that paypal is linked to. This company is a scam. Stay far away from them.
