Since 2005 I have utilised Avast antivirus free version and later paid, and despite being free, it has protected my computer from virus, malware and recently stopped countless of ransomware attacks that have been going haywire on the Internet line in my area. Reading countless of the negative reviews of this program I can without a doubt say these people have no idea what they are doing, it surprises me they even know how to turn a computer on.

Avast unlike many other AV software I have tested, has successfully managed to isolate viruses and malware even in archived files surprisingly. Another astonishing feature with Avast subsequently missing from vast majority of other AV programs is customisation in the installer letting you decide exactly what you want included and what you want excluded.

Avast AV also gives you good control of settings, all the annoying features can be easily turned off, Avast has always had a good interface which really helps navigating through the various advanced features. Avast not only lets you quick scan but also do complete scans, Avast also includes a boot scan option which will scan your computer before Windows boots, extremely helpful in removing very dangerous threats.

Despite this, Avast will not compromise in safety even on the free version and will constantly give you offers on the paid variant, there no reason not to accept. Avast is also one of the extremely few that STILL supports Windows XP and Vista to this day letting you safely use older computers with Internet connection. As someone who still has to rely on old systems for crucial software support, this is a Godsent gift to not having to worry about ransomware attacking old systems thanks to Avast.

All my clients really like Avast except the annoying pop-up reminding them to buy the software but people having previously had their computers attacked by virus has never had issues after I installed Avast free Antivirus on their systems afterwards. It can without a doubt be said that Avast tops all charts in review sites for best protection, features, user friendliness, and excellent customer service willing to help. It is hard to understand why Avast themselves receive such harsh critique when they are just trying to help, but in reality there is no helping the helpless.

Been a client for many years as a paid member. Yesterday when on news page I clicked a link for audio and it froze 80% of my computer. After contacting AVAST they said it was not their fault and passed me to a company that charged me for solving the issue. So I just as well use a free anti company and then be expected to pay if something goes wrong as this. The SCAM was listed as a MICROSOFT issue with a false phone number to contact. I sensed it was a SCAM and did not telephone it. It was then I contacted AVAST directly. I would like a full explanation as to the reason AVAST did not protect me at the outset.

I am currently trying to uninstall, but it installed after I completed the survey. I use Symantec, and don't want any other service. I don't understand how they tricked me into downloading it. It happened only a few days ago. It finally uninstalled without any current effect on my computer. Obviously my keyboard is working. I just don't know how it ended up on my computer. I gave it one star only because it showed up uninvited.

    Hi Scott,

We hope you'll give Avast another try. We want to reassure you that we do not trick users into installing Avast in any way. Occasionally, our software may be bundled along with other trusted applications but Avast would only install if you selected to do so. You may want to check into the software program that was installed.

If you have more information about what happened exactly, such as screenshots or the "survey" you mention, we can investigate further!

Beware of cyber scam from your antivirus software. Today, we got a call from a representative of Avast saying they owed us $229 (they said this over 7 months ago) for overcharging for product we never received. To do this, however, they needed to access our computer and then we were to get our bank access online. They said this way, they would black out our screen and theirs, while a transfer deposit was made to our bank. When they were done, they asked me to verify that the transfer to our bank account was $229. I told them it showed $2,229. They wigged out and said they needed to retrieve the $2000 and we should go to our nearest Walmart store and buy a gift card for $1800 (because now they said they would give us an extra $200 for our inconvenience). That is when a red flag went up and said no.

Again, they got all excited and said they would lose their job and fired and we needed to do it now. Told them we will check it out with our bank and the attorney general office in Nebraska to see if they were scamming us. Long story short... it is apparently a scam but when we tried calling AVAST, they did not want to hear what we had to say but try and sell us Avast all over again saying they could save us money from what we currently were paying. We are still scratching our heads over this one. If these people from India were actually scammers, wouldn't Avast want to know about this from us? Guess not. What does that tell you?

Updated on 11/19/2018: I initially posted a review on November 10, 2018 as to the effect that uninstalling the Avast! antivirus program did to my computer. Said uninstall totally crashed my computer. Due to this review I received a very solicitous response from Avast about the issue and additional information was requested by them (and provided by me). See below:

Operating system was Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. PC was 12 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD in RAID-1 configuration. Motherboard was ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) Rampage II Extreme with Intel I7. Graphics card was Nvidia 500 series GTX. Boring DVD, keyboard, and mouse. Uninstall went as follows: 1) Invoked uninstalled Avast! from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. 2) Uninstall finished. 3) Rebooted machine. 4) Misbehavior on reboot. 5) After multiple reboots, the ROG boot screen came up, but Windows 7 failed to complete its boot-up. 6) Multiple reboots, but never any ROG boot screen again, let alone Windows 7 boot-up

    7) Finally, irregardless of rebooting, ROG boot screen does not appear and keyboard is not recognized. Keyboard is a Logitech G910 backlit keyboard, but the lights don't come on anymore. 8) Keyboard and mouse do work on another computer that is being used as a fill-in until the ultimate fate of the previous computer is decided. 9) No other programs were installed/uninstalled at the same time as Avast! was uninstalled. 10) Avast! was the latest version of the Free version

Outcome of initial communication with Avast's "higher levels of support" indicated that the information provided above was not even reviewed before their initial "support" response. Secondary contact resulted with this sentence as part of their response: "If your computer will not boot up at all you are facing with a hardware issue, probably." Note the word "probably". Given that I have reviewed 10 complaints posted on this site against Avast for 2018 alone (5/15, 6/10, 6/11, 6/20, 6/28, 7/14, 7/30, 8/21, 9/13, and 10/11) that specifically implicate the presence of the Avast! antivirus in the permanent loss/or alteration of files as well as damage to the actual functionality of the computers involved.

At least 3 of these posts indicated that the reviewer had to seek paid technicians to repair the damage to their operation systems and files. I find the likelihood that my experience is not the result of hardware failure especially given that my computer had absolutely no issues with functionality prior to the uninstall.

The latest communication has the "tech" suggesting that the sudden, total lock up of my OS as a huge coincidence although the only variable in the equation between perfect functionality of my computer and it's now current status as a very expensive piece of metal statuary was my choice to uninstall their software. Now I am looking at paying out somewhere between $1,000 to $1,500 to obtain an equivalent replacement for the computer damaged by this software. I am fortunate that my husband is a computer programmer and has decades of experienced with computers so he was able to recover all of my photos and documents. Not all are so fortunate. Think long and hard about the value of your data before letting this software invade your computer.

Original review: Recently uninstalled Avast Antivirus software and now my computer does not recognize my keyboard (or any other external components) so there is no way to restore system settings. Bricked my machine! Don't jeopardize your data by using this software which seems designed to destroy your computer on uninstall.

Updated on 12/09/2018: I originally reviewed this product on November 1, 2018. Avast responded to my review with a message to contact them, that they would like to help, as they are telling others who are also giving not so stellar reviews. Well, obviously I had already contacted them and they would NOT help, hence the review. I did, however, recover the money through Paypal. I couldn't figure out how to edit the first review, only to mark it "resolved" which somehow seemed hinky to me, as they were not interested in resolving the issue.

Original Review: I used this "free" product in July 2017 in an attempt to clean a computer. It didn't help, the computer bit the dust. They charged me after the 30 day trial period and claimed I agreed to an auto-renewal. I absolutely did not. The default is agree to auto-renewal. I logged onto my account and stopped that feature two days after I downloaded the program. It was never used after that first try. This is a horrible way to do business! They refuse to refund the money. It does not show up on credit card as Avast but as Digital River.

Cancellation of files for offline installs/updates: I have used and recommended Avast products for a decade or so. Some computers that require antivirus are offline and purposefully never connected to the internet. In my experience, Avast has always made files available for download so that offline computers could use their software. They have abruptly stopped offering this, and have left us in the lurch. A call to their support verified that they no longer offered files for offline installation or update, and that they might consider opening a request for that "new" feature. I have a current three-year subscription.

There are many computers out there that require anti-virus, but never go online. Also, presently, I do not see a way to install their software on any computer without being online and unprotected while performing the installation. Poor execution and service for transition from discontinued version: We have a three-year subscription for Endpoint, which they have discontinued. I had to call in to see what product to upgrade to, and they could not tell me. Said to just upgrade one of our computers that is online and see what it upgraded to. The computers that were online would not upgrade, so I spent hours looking for what to upgrade to.

One computer accepted the upgrade, and the license key. For over 24 hours, the second computer will not register the key, giving an error message to try again later. I had functioning software with a current license, and by following their installation process, now have a system that is "unsecured", since they will not accept and process a proper and valid product key. I have quite a few computers to install this on, and after the inability of Avast to accept and process a proper license key online, I have decided that finding a way to get the offline computers online for the purpose of installing Avast would be a very poor road to travel. In summary, Avast has failed in offering acceptable service and failed by discontinuing the vital capability of offline installation and updating of virus definitions. Avast, you have lost a long time customer and advocate for life.

For sometime, I have been disappointed with Avast; most particularly when your "clean up" tool literally cleaned my computer. I had to have an IT person in to restore my pictures and other information from my external backup. I had an online support session with Microsoft this afternoon which apparently identified a virus that was undetected by your software and had literally slowed my computer to a CRAWL, a very slow crawl. Fixed. I never found Avast software updated automatically; always had to check and install updates. Pain in the rear. Just not satisfied at all; and, TO TOP ALL OFF, I still get to pay you for the remaining approximately 2.5 years of an unsatisfactory subscription.

I have been with Avast for many years. I thought they were a decent company. I recently was given a new quote which I thought was too expensive. I decided to cancel. I had problems removing their Anti Virus Premium, so I contacted them which is not easy to find. They said they are not responsible for the removal of their product. They would have to charge me $50.00 Canadian to have their Tech Support remove it. I agreed provided they could remove it and restore my computer back to proper with internet access.

They remove it but now that computer has no internet access and it took 2 days 12 hours in total, to leave my computer in this mess. It worked just fine before Avast worked on it. They were suppose to call me back and resume repairing it, I never heard from them. Makes me wonder if they install something in their Anti Virus that you can't leave, that disables your computer. Looking for a Anti Virus? You might want to avoid Avast Premium.

Used to be modestly good antivirus, stopped viruses from downloading or connecting to the web. Advertising is false - I had the idea it would include my phone and then they wanted me to purchase separate software for that. I didn't. When it used to work, it took forever to run a scan and drastically slowed my computer - which has 4 gigs of RAM. Recently they made changes in the software. It scans EVERY file that opens on my computer, and must stop unspecified system files. It takes FOREVER to open EVERY web page at EVERY place in the page. Eventually the Internet connection breaks and it won't connect. Soon after that my computer slows to a crawl and then freezes.

I uninstalled, ALL problems disappeared. I reinstalled, problems came back. I uninstalled, all problems disappeared. Don't worry about what OS or browser, if Avast is worth money it works on all of them. Avast HAS no customer support, so don't even try it with the false offering to help me you plastered all over this page. I'm not interested in any case, your software doesn't work, so no amount of helping me will work. FIX it, and if you cared it obviously wouldn't be broken, so you're not going to fix it. Push me at ALL and I'll file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for a partial refund for the time on my license since YOU broke your software. Don't even think about it. Have used Avast for years without issues. After resubscribing Jul 18, started getting requests to enter my "Master Password." Except I didn't have one. Contact them... took over an hour just to get to the first rep. Had to PAY for them to fix THEIR problem. After multiple multi-hour calls with tech support, they said it was fixed and that they had "cleaned up" my laptop. Immediately noticed that MS Office Professional was no longer functioning properly... features missing. Contacted Avast again. After more digging around their answer was... "It's a Microsoft problem so call them." Basically washed their hands of a problem they clearly created.

FOUR Microsoft sessions later (over 9 hours) with their most advanced engineering support, they still couldn't fix whatever Avast corrupted. Limping along now by working from a previous restore point. Moral of the story, Avast was just fine right up until there was (what seemed to be) a minor issue. Their support is a joke. In my opinion, DO NOT let their tech support do ANYTHING to your computer. Microsoft DEFENDER works just as well and is fully integrated/compatible. Suggest using it instead.

Avast Tech Scam. Trying to resolve an issue of getting cancelation notices on my product - you cannot speak with anyone - you get an email response and it is very vague in its explanation and the problem is NOT solved. The problem is multiplied by double billing. I have an account! A PAID UP ACCOUNT - and I am billed again (Auto Billing). I will STOP this auto billing and as good as AVAST might be - paying twice for the service - they can't be that good. BEWARE!! Horrible customer service.

My computer stopped working properly after installing the most recent Avast update (version 18.6.2349) on Aug 21. Avast forums indicated that there is a bug in this update, after three reboots my computer got completely stuck when trying to access the "repair" function so I phoned Avast tech # given on bottom of my most recent order confirmation **. This was the only phone # I could find after extensive searching.

Spoke with Stephanie in Manila & her supervisor. Told her that this is a problem with the update. She insisted on doing a "diagnostic," found extraneous problems and said I needed an advanced diagnostic. All she wanted to do was sell me this diagnostic. Her supervisor came on and said that I could have a "special" price: $49 instead of $119. There was no other solution. I have the feeling that this isn't a tech service at all - it is a point of sale for Avast products. I have paid for Internet Security and I am wondering why it is not supported by tech service, as claimed. I wasted an hour having a very frustrating phone conversation and I am no closer to resolving the problem with the faulty update.

We purchased Avast Premier even though more expensive than most other antivirus software available and almost every time we use our computers we get pop up type ads telling us we need more protection and other products. It does a scan of our system and then tells us all these problems exist and we have to upgrade and pay more money and I mean a lot more money not just a few dollars for new software. We have already purchased a premium product we thought but apparently not, it's ongoing to upgrade to something else all the time. I have used most of the big reputable antivirus programs and have never been flooded with ads to keep paying more money. I definitely would not recommend Avast nor will I use this software again, very shonky company.

The program itself is good, but the tech support is totally crooked. When I upgraded from Pro to Preferred they didn't do an upgrade, they added preferred and charged me for both. I caught it in time (within 30 days) and called them. I was also adding VPN. They told me they will credit my account back. I saw the credit on my account, but what they credited me back for was the VPN and not the pro. (it costs the same). I kept telling them something was wrong with the VPN software and they said I would have to pay for tech support to fix it. I did. Still not fixed. Well, now the VPN is canceled and I now have both pro and premier. I kept telling them this, but they say the only way they could help me is if I paid for another year tech support. So bad on me, I did. Now they say it is too late to get credit back for pro and if I want VPN I will need to pay for it. $377 of runaround.

I just got a phn call from Avast apologising for the 3rd party techs trying to get me to buy more un needed services and they are extending my Tech support another 3 months at no charge and they have prioritized my acct so this wont happen again. The young woman I spoke with in the managerial dept for tech services was extremely polite and professional and I am very happy to have this problem to my satisfaction as I DO like all the avast services I have been receiving for the past few years and now feel confident to continue all

    my subscriptions for their services.

    Original Review: Aug. 20, 2018

This is a copy of the email I sent Avast regarding an experience I had with their Tech support. Ok , several months ago I had support help thru Avast to get rid of scare ware on my laptop, I ended up paying 200.00 (179.00US) for a year's support for 3 PCs... but never got any info on how to reaccess this service. Yesterday I was having problems with my PC so I contacted the support listed under your Avast tech support link, I was told I would need to pay ANOTHER 149.00 US to renew certificates to fix my PC... I called my bank as there was a problem paying for the service and they said I should totally disconnect my PC as it sounded a scam. Now I have to get a new bank card, change all my passwords etc as I don't even know if this was legit tech help... I find it suspect they asked for MORE freaking money after I pay for ALL your services and already shelled out 200.00 for tech support a few months ago.

I'm really upset this happened and how is ANYONE to know they have a REAL Avast tech person accessing their pc with all their personal info?? I then got a person who said they would "look into it"... that was 4 days ago and since then I have had NO responses to any more of my questions. As far as I know the Avast ph # I called (1-844-340-9251) is the legit Avast Customer Support ph #. I have really liked the Avast Products... but so far my experience with customer service when needed has been dog crap... and I can't recommend Avast for this reason and won't be renewing my subscriptions for the many products of theirs I have purchased.

They have never responded. I also called tech support and talked to someone who would not help me, and I still have not had the issue resolved. I do not want this product anymore; I want to cancel the auto-renew and can't. I have tried to delete my credit card information, and they will not let it be deleted and continue to charge my card. I got the bank to refund the last time, but since I cannot cancel my subscription and Avast still has my card information, I am still trying to figure out how to stop this from happening again. I called the number associated with the charges and the company sent me to Avast. I called the number they gave me and the man said he would look into it and told me he was going to scan my computer to see what was going on. He then showed me on my computer that there was some sort of hacking going on and agreed that someone was messing around in my computer. This took over an hour.

He then tried to sell me for $199 some sort of plan to fix my computer. And I did call back several times and try to get him to help me resolve my issue or give me a phone number which all the phone numbers I have been trying to call are not working.

Then the worst thing was on the chat he said I said I had to go and he said, "Well when you want to repair your computer let me know" and wiped out the checklist said he had on my computer that told me everything that was wrong with it as well as my computer now does not work at all. I bought a £19.99 product yesterday and when I phoned and expressed dissatisfaction I was told I could have a refund if I bought a better product. I have not had the refund yet. I was talked through on the phone how to delete the first product and I then bought Premier. It has fixed almost none of the faults it found during its first scan. I was then invited to buy further products to resolve these. I phoned and said I wanted a refund as I did not want the product. I had to talk to 2 sales people who wanted me to buy their 179.00 product instead for support and I was on the phone for nearly an hour simply repeating "I want a refund". Finally I was offered a refund if someone from their office got onto my PC hard drive to delete their product. Naturally I refused that. I was promised a call from Refunds 3 hours ago. I have not had one. Why has no one phoned me or emailed me? This company has appalling customer service. I will not recommend it to anyone else.

Updated on 07/03/2018: I have recently complained here about this company and their "sabotage team" came here to say contact them and they would sort it out. I had an email promising a refund. Most of their emails asking me to reply are "Non reply" email addresses. They said they would phone me to discuss this on Saturday. They did not. There is no need to talk to me, just refund me as you promised. They waited until Monday when they phoned at 5.09 on my mobile number and 5.12 on my landline.

I live in a really rural area with poor phone signals. When I did not answer either call Ralph the supervisor wrote "we have been trying to reach you now for several days now because we would like to discuss the subscription that you had on AVAST tech support dept. but unfortunately, after several attempts, we have failed to get in touch with you over the phone. We also send emails to ask for your best time so we can proceed with the troubleshooting. However we have not received any reply. We will now be closing this case." WHAT A SHAM of a company this is. Disgusting... words fail me. They are stealing money from people and have no shame. DO NOT USE THEM.

I then had a payment for £39.99 come out of my PayPay account!! I disputed this with PayPal as I knew I hadn't authorised it. PayPal said it was part of a previous agreement with the Seller so they closed the dispute, therefore, the hold was lifted and the money went out of my account and to the Seller.

I requested a refund from Avast and sent several emails only to be told it was my free trial of CleanUp which converted after 2 months! I don't take those kinds of risks, but adverts are always popping up so it could have been done in error if they made it look like part of my anti-virus software. I have continued to complain, only to be told that once there is a dispute from PayPal, the money is removed from their account, therefore they can't refund it and they can't help me further. I am so angry at being fobbed off!! I'm not going to be using Avast anymore and will pass that on to friends, family and work colleagues to beware!

The money is with AVAST and they are happy to make money by tricking you and helping themselves to your money. I am reviewing any payments using PayPal now as my Bank would be more vigilant. I'm going to be going down the official complaint route, and verifying the payment with PayPal to confirm Avast has it. I also plan to warn people of this. I have paid £39.99 for a product I don't want, don't need and have removed from my laptop and they are quite happy with that.

I just purchased an upgrade to my drivers from Avast. I have no reason at this point to question the quality of this installation. However, getting the software installed and dealing with the aftermath was a major problem. Placing the order was simple and I got a receipt showing that the order had been accepted and paid for. However, the instructions for installation were very confusing so I called the helpline. The person answering had a thick Indian accent, but she seemed to know what she was doing.

I wish she had stopped after completing the installation, but she proceeded to deliver the hardest hard-sell I have ever experienced to get me to buy one of their three monthly support plans. "As a software engineer," she recommended the highest plan with a price tag of $199 per month. I declined to sign up, but I couldn't get her off the phone. Finally, I simply hung up only to have her ring me back immediately. She then insisted that I allow her to transfer me to one of her supervisors. Again I declined and finally hung up in disgust. If there is anything that is a major turnoff for me it is hard-sell and that's what I got from Avast.

BOTH gave me the screen error of "PAYMENT AUTHORIZATION FAILED". Since it's the first time I have ever contact Avast for such matters, I didn't expect the poor service they will give me as a long time client. I managed to give them "proofs" and yet, they still ask me for more. And guess what? It failed on the screen, but when I checked my bank account, boom! There were 2 fund transfers with the amount exactly like the Avast Premier's price. Avast is a good product, believe me. But the service? I cannot guarantee.

When Microsoft installed Avast Business Antivirus Professional Plus In February, it caused almost immediate problems with the internet. Internet could no longer be accessed. This went on for a while. The technical support suggested I remove it completely and reinstall it. It made no difference. As time went on it completely blocked internet and the email. I finally had to bring the computer in for repair. It was suggested that this program was not compatible with my computer. It was completely removed and another antivirus installed. Problem was resolved. It caused me a lot of trouble and time and money. I asked Avast several times to refund my $109. They never replied. I may have to resort to legal actions.

I wouldn't give it a 1 star but there is no minus stars. If there was I would surely give it -5. Run from this application, and good luck uninstalling it. WHAT A HEADACHE TO UNINSTALL... So, I'm in the Dominican Republic, and the only number I see listed is the 844 number. Tried googling for an AVAST international number to call but there isn't one. Biggest surprise is these non-customer service professionals have a chat room where I can contact a tech. THIS IS UNHEARD OF!!

So, in a nutshell, my computer is locking and freezing in all websites and videos due to running their boot scan for the first time, I can't contact customer service because these unprofessionals don't have an international phone number on their website??? And lastly, NO CHAT ROOM FOR TECH???!!! What the devil??? For minimal customer service, I'll need someone from Avast (preferable a tech) to contact me with their E-MAIL ADDRESS so that I can contact them and perhaps get the problem resolved completely. Also, I'm continually having to cut the VPN on, and I want it on AT ALL TIMES. I have the setting on for this, but it still keeps shutting off.

Update on 6/15/2018: I used the contact information Avast gave me in response to my complaint on this site to let them know my issues on 11 June 2018. I filled out my contact information. I was given the order number **. It's 15 June 2018 and I still haven't received an e-mail. I made it very clear that e-mail is the only way I can be contacted. I'm still waiting, as my videos won't start, and when they finally do start they immediately start freezing. This problem began after my first use of the Avast boot scan. Still waiting

I never received a credit, but did receive a letter from Avast stating I was approved for refund. I will now delete this program. Like many others, I work two jobs and have no time to dispute all of these charges. This is the reason so many online "companies" can make undeserved money. We simply do not have enough time, and end up conscientiously paying our bills without enough scrutiny, which is the BIG problem today! When I subscribed to Avast SecureLine, the license exclusively states that it is a Multi-device upgrade. Beware of the trick! once you buy one of these updates. When I subscribed to Avast SecureLine, the license exclusively states that it is a Multi-device upgrade. Beware of the trick!

When I called Avast support, the support person (Brian) tried to explain me that (surprisingly!!!) "Multi-device" means one computer!!! Similarly, I upgraded to Avast Internet Security, and the license is for "one user". But in the minds of these guys "one user" also means just one computer. These are all tricks to get money from the customers. What is a "device", what is a "computer" and what is a "user" is twisted in order to put hand into the customer's wallet. Ugly and unacceptable business practice!

I called customer service to resolve an issue regarding the malfunction of their program. Neither the scan, the cleanup, nor the vpn were working. According to them, the issue was complicated and needed to be resolved with another of their (costly) product. I downloaded another free anti-virus, found the threats (that Avast was unable to detect apparently) and deleted them. I proceeded to reboot my computer and everything worked. It took me 5 min (including rebooting my computer) to do so and no money. If a free anti-virus does a better job, why should I stay with Avast? Especially when they expect me to pay more when their product doesn't work.

Avast used to be my anti-virus software of choice years ago but it seems like they've sold out to some sketchy company. I signed up for the 'free' trial and it kept prompting me for a special price of $19.99 to get the premium version of the software. At the end of the 30-day trial my bank account was charged $42.79! I got the phone number associated with the charge from my bank because I could not locate a contact phone number on the Avast site. Upon calling I got in touch with a call center staffed by Indians.

After 20-minutes on the phone I was told that my premium account had been canceled and the $42.79 charge would be refunded to my bank account. Well, I never got a refund. In addition to that the software kept prompting me to sign-up for the premium version. If I didn't get a refund then I should still have the premium version of the software, right? After four-months without a refund I called Avast back to verify that I should be entitled to the premium version of the software since I never got a refund. Again I got an Indian man at a call center. Whenever I call they want to have remote access to my computer. I went ahead and allowed the guy to access my computer in order to activate the premium version of their software.

But that's not what the guy did. Instead he started rooting around in my browser history and telling me that I'd visited all these unsecured websites that had messed up my computer. He was going to refer me to a technician in my area to have my computer serviced. My computer is only four-months old!!! There's not a thing wrong with it. In addition to that, it turned out that I do not have the premium version of their software but have some additional software that's supposed to just clean-up unnecessary files on my computer. So for $42.79 I didn't even get their premium software but some useless side-app. The bottom line is that this is a company that has virtually no customer service and appears to be a dishonest racket. Run!

That was almost a year ago and today I was AGAIN billed for two subscriptions from AVAST - DIGITAL RIVER! I immediately contacted them and they said they would again cancel all subscriptions. I am writing you in the hopes you can help me get what is fair out of this company ‘’Avast’’ which I feel has preyed upon me for years. The reason I have waited so long to address this issue with them is that on numerous occasions when I wrote or called the company I got a complete runaround, misdirection, and stalling that I believe is intended to break the complainants resolve is seeking justice.

Initially, I received a courtesy notice that a product would be renewed on the such and such date. I proceeded to cancel my Avast product prior to that date, was shocked to find I had still been charged. When I investigated I was told that I had canceled a different Avast product. Further investigation revealed so much deceptive business practices that I feel it is intentional. Apparently, over the years when intentionally renewing my Avast product, I was I. getting sold 3 -5 duplicate or similar products, products with slight variations in the services provided and or names and many of them overlapping, and many of them duplicating free products that came with my pc.

So not only does the company sell many different Avast products, The notification of renewal email do not come with their specific names, they are intentionally misleading where it should say your ''Avast internet security program'' is up for renewal it simply says update your Avast subscription. So I canceled something without realizing I had other Avast products that were still auto-renewing.

Many of these products should cancel each other out. If you have product "A" you don't need product "B" sort of thing. Yet I was barraged with emails telling me I needed this or that to keep my computer safe, running fast, protected. If I canceled a product I received a high alert email within a month warning me why I needed to buy the product to protect my computer. I noticed no difference in how my computer functioned but that is beside the point all I wanted was one yearly subscription for Avast ant-virus I ended up with GrimeFighter, Avast Premier, Avast Antivirus, Avast Internet Security, over 500 in charges. To further confuse matters many of their products changed names and when seeking resolution for an unauthorized charge you find out you have to contact a different vendor.

When I finally got over my seething frustration and contacted the proper vendor clearly stating I would never have renewed because after May 2015 I moved and no longer had a computer and therefore I didn't need their product at all... Explaining all this I was chastised and questioned about why I waited so long— to that question my answers are, "Because customer service has made fixing these problems so difficult. I dread addressing these issues more than any issue I have ever had with any company—ever."

Then they offered me an extension of their product/service. That was a year ago. I get really angry and feel like, "No. This is wrong." I have been victimized by the unscrupulous business practices of a company that turns out to be used in Eastern Europe and seems totally uninterested in doing business along ethical lines. I am hoping that they will respect my claim if it comes from my bank and not treat me so shabbily. CANCEL THIS. REFUND MY MONEY.

All I want is a refund for ANY PRODUCTS I WAS CHARGED FOR AFTER MAY 2015--- products I was deceptively charged for after I lost my home in May 2015 and no longer had a PC with which to use their product. VERIFIED PURCHASER My bank statement would be my receipt to make it a verified review. Instead I submit two screen-shots of correspondence with Avast proving I bought their product as my bank won't let me search beyond two years ago.

Before I start my review, I want to address a common complaint in the hopes that it will help other people. When you sign up for Avast, KEEP THAT ORIGINAL CONFIRMATION EMAIL. It was the only email from which I was able to cancel my auto renewal by clicking on the "Order Portal" link. Cancelling your auto renewal in any other way is nearly impossible. The email they'll send you when it's time to renew offers an option to cancel, but when you click on the link, your information will always be "invalid".

Here's what you do: Find the original email, click on the "Order Portal" option, and input your order number and password from that order confirmation. Input it three or four times. (You'll be told the first few times that your information is invalid. Keep trying. It will eventually go through.) Then, click on Edit Membership and go through the disable auto renewal steps TWICE. The first time will purposely NOT work. After that, click out of the screen and back in to make doubly sure that you've been opted out. If not, repeat above steps until successful.

Now, in regards to the actual product... I've had Avast for a year and it has successfully stopped numerous viruses from infecting my computer, so as far as protection is concerned, I'm satisfied with it. I won't be renewing, though, because I don't like shady companies who try to force you to stay with them through unethical means.

Either they sold my information or they have a breach on their credit card servers. The reason I know this is I NEVER use that information online. For this purchase I used my mobile number instead of my home as I usually do. It now has gotten several calls and I am getting new spam to my HOME email of which I also never use for online purchases. Too much going on since I made this avast purchase to be a coincidence. One of them was a mortgage company from out of state trying to validate my address.

I thought it was a lesser valued free set up, it's not. So I figure they will slow down my system in a random style. And it's slow that's why I'm downloading it. So I am going to buy a system, I already plan to right, but it would be cool to get a couple months free with their 2 month trial. NO. They still ask for a credit card... I really hate that, they also data mine you. So, I think I really hate that, but I'm stuck with this spy antivirus already so I figure I give my cc info, they will give me the FULL program for a couple months then automatically charge me after 2 months... NO. These idiots don't even give me anything more than it already. Didn't do for me even after they have my cc and agreement for 2 month trial. As if I want more than one system slowing antivirus on my pc - "free" or not.

Go with a real brand, this marketing makes me sick. 1 star is too much. Avast - remember that we need real antivirus every month and if you idiots would've just charged even for 12 months but get 2 free for a total of 14 - then I wouldn't be upset about you wasting my time. Now I regret taking other people's advice and wish I didn't have your backdoor spy software on my system. You are crap and I look forward to buying a new pc to clean my hard drive of you. I hope you never make another marketing ad ever and get bought out by a transparent real company that's just upfront with me and not your stupid antics. Couldn't be more disappointed, and I'm a person that expects to pay for software. Good software and protection without games. Get it together. I hope to find better options.

I have used the Avast free antivirus for years and it seemed adequate. I must have upgraded at some time, because Avast turned out to have my credit card ON FILE. I have never used the upgraded Avast. My wife just discovered a charge of $69 from Avast in December 2017 and notified our bank. The bank also discovered there had been charges in 2015 and 2016 that were never authorized. The bank refused the charges for 2017, thus saving me $65, which was $5 more than the original statement. Avast refused to refund my other 2 years and thus scammed me for over a $100.

I asked that my credit card information be purged from their system but all I get is the following response. "We received and processed your request in accordance with our Privacy Policy (please refer to our Privacy Policy at **)." Avast will not acknowledge that my credit card information has been purged from their files, in spite of repeated requests. Always the same response noted above. I suggest always asking if your credit card information will be retained when ordering from anyone.

I have had the same issues everyone else is having, it's, (mainly), not with the quality of the product protecting me. Problems are with "if there is an issue that requires Avast to be contacted"! I was having to disable Avast because it would not allow me to open a program. That was the only way I could open it. Could I have found the fix, likely, but the mistake was contacting Avast. I pretty much had my computer held hostage. The first so-called technical guy I talk to turned salesman. Afterwards, I was forward to a real tech. I was sold something that just created more issues. Just like everyone else, getting them to understand and correct their wrong is fruitless. I still have to disable Avast to open or configure certain programs. I was a free user because I liked the service. I added some upgrades and went to the auto-renew. I paid my hostage fee and it wasn't repaired, so I'm making a change.

Maybe I'm missing something because I believe I have a solution to all these re-billings and added charges I'm reading about. Likely most paid by credit card. I contacted my credit card company, disputed my hostage fee asking it be credited, (of course with an explanation why), and told them to block any further charges from Avast. Seems to be a done deal, I don't have to contact Avast for anything else now.

For a couple of years I used free Avast AV with no problem and Eset online scanner as backup. First Mistake: used 'free trial' version for 30 days. [NOTE: DO NOT BE FOOLISH AND 'BITE' ON THEIR "EXTEND FREE TRIAL" BY ENTERING PAYMENT INFO. Fortunately, I didn't. It appears they charge you even if you decline to buy]. When paid version trial expired, red ink warning said “You are unprotected!" ‘Danger!' And it locked me out of firewall settings. -- Sleazy scare tactics. Gave no instruction of how to uninstall paid version, but I figured it out. Just click 'subscription' on settings page, I think it was bottom left side of screen, and click to remove. It eventually*** reverts to free version after rebooting a few times but is not a smooth process.

I then ran Eset online scanner (free, just download small installer, which I already had installed. It's an excellent stand-alone backup for all AV's). There were thirty-nine viruses/malwares on my system that was clean before starting to uninstall Avast Internet Security paid version. Yes...39, after running boot scan AND Eset online prior to uninstall of paid version said system was free of all malware. Also, when still considering buying it before all this, I had called Avast tech support (allegedly in Philippines) to ask about the System cleanup module: it would not execute properly...just spun its wheels. Only ONCE did it complete. It listed the alleged 'problems' and then...simply closed instead of actually doing anything.

The tech told me to uninstall module, reinstall, etc, and when I told him I had tried that already, he said I had 'done it wrong' then. I asked if there was some sort of bug in the program and he proceeded to state that I was the ONLY person who had EVER had a problem with it, out of their millions of users. I just laughed and said aloha. THAT was when I decided to revert to the free version. It has functioned with no problem. I wonder if the paid version has been sold to another company, or somehow 'outsourced'? That is a shame. Avast used to be a trusted name in security. I will never BUY. That division is full of scam artists.

In 2015, after using the free antivirus service for quite a long time, I decided to upgrade. I was billed either $39 or $32 (can't remember right now), for the paid subscription from 2015-2016. Somehow, an extra service was added and I was charged $59 for that. I complained to the Avast people and was told that I ordered these products and that I had also opted for the auto-renew option. I told them to cancel the $59 product and to cancel the auto-renew.

I didn't hear from them, and then discovered in 2017 that they had auto-renewed the programs again. Worse still, they told me that my original order in 2015 had been a 2-year contract so I had been charged for both programs (close to $100 per year) for two years. I was livid and spent hours on the phone trying to explain to people with accents difficult to understand what the problems were. I finally got the message through that I wanted them to cancel everything and to refund the 2nd year (2016-2017) which had not been ordered or authorized, and to return me to the free anti-virus which I had originally been using.

They cancel the two programs and refunded the charges for 2017-2018, and confirmed that the auto-renew had also been cancelled. I'm hoping this is true, but I won't know for sure until later this year. Even when the two paid subscriptions were in effect, there was no difference in the protection; however, I did notice a significant increase in junk mail in both of my email boxes. One in particular, my business email, would receive close to 100 junk emails every day which was very overwhelming. I also kept getting pop-ups from Avast wanting me to upgrade yet again to a 3rd program.

This increase in junk mail coincided with MSN changing their interface at the same time I upgraded the Avast programs. I assumed that MSN was to blame for the increase in junk mail. However, when I returned to the Avast free protection, all those junk emails stopped. I don't believe this is a coincidence. I firmly believe that Avast was responsible for all those additional junk emails getting through in order to try to coerce me into yet another paid subscription. I am still using the Avast free anti-virus program, but I am so disappointed with them and am considering purchasing either Norton or MacAfee service, or going back to AVG free service which had worked for me very well in the past. Be very careful when dealing with Avast, specifically regarding their paid services.

One thing I really don't like about the latest Avast software is that it will occasionally present information on a pop-up page that says 14 or 15 or 20 programs are behaving poorly and your machine is running badly and some other things need to be fixed. It doesn't ever say what those things are nor does it present an opportunity for me to review the list of suspect programs or processes that they say are behaving badly, or... what exactly they are doing and what exactly is this bad behavior. They just offer a button claiming to "fix it". I've had programs like that in the past that say, "We will fix your PC for you..." They fixed it alright, I ended up having to reinstall everything.

I contacted Avast through their help page (in the antivirus software) several times and I have yet to receive a response. This unwelcome behavior persists with no apparent remedy. If it continues I'm considering going back to Avira which I used for many years and considered to be the best, especially among the free versions of the antivirus software available to the public. Avast works well, I just don't like this particular behavior. They won't explain it or provide details, so I don't trust it and I find it highly suspect. Hope that helps.

About a month after purchasing my Asus laptop I had a problem and a helpful Best Buy tech recommended that I download Avast for free and use it as my antivirus. So I did and I left it on for about year but never used it because it wanted me to update to a premium subscription for it to do anything and I didn’t want to so I always clicked decline. But after beginning to use my laptop for school more and being on public servers more I thought I would look into a good security system and I selected Norton which recommended uninstalling avast so I complied.

Two days later I was charged for a year subscription that I never selected. In all honesty I don’t even remember giving them my credit info or selecting auto renew (shocker they say it’s binding when auto renew is selected). So the next day I called their customer service and started to get my refund. All went ok until I heard him (barely audible with an accent and very very quiet voice) say something about a cancellation fee which I natural asked how much it was. He said 79.99 to cancel. The subscription charge was 53 with tax.

So they literally wanted to refund my money then recharge me more than the original amount. And after fighting with him for over a half hour on the phone and listening to him tell me it was my fault that I filled everything out and agreed to the terms and there was no possible way that I could get out of it I decided to just call my bank and have them go after avast to get my money back. So bottom line Avast seems to be a giant scam that leads you in circles when you have a problem. Would never. Ever. Ever recommend this. Not even to my worst enemy.

I have not paid any more $ into this and don't believe anyone should! For the extra $ I paid, most of these add-ons should have been included in my last license fee. To have to purchase all the additional options they want you to buy after they scare you into thinking you need them, one could easily have over $200/year into this!

And I believe they'd still try to sell you the same add-ons! Right now it seems one gets about the same protection as is offered in their Free download. It appears Avast has degraded itself to little more than a greedy extortionist company that cheats its customers! And of course you cannot talk to anyone there. Is Avast messing with my drivers? After checking my task manager I saw Avast Driver updater was hogging up space. Went to Avast settings and disabled driver updater and things settled down. Restarted computer and all is well. I believe these extra services that Avast wants money for is actually harming our computers.

Driver Updater is designed to work seamlessly with over 100 major brands of devices. Another computer on the same network is still getting 30, the Avast infected laptop is barely reaching 2.3 now and then. I have canceled my subscription and requested a refund. I have been a subscriber of Avast for a number of years. In the beginning, the service was great, but in recent times their service has gone from customer service to promoting upgrades and $$. It seems that Avast is now finding "issues" all the time and when you want to resolve it, you must upgrade to another program. I was totally out of service almost of all of 2017 because they had applied my account to another computer. Now I have been informed that my Premier and Cleanup will be automatically renewed by December 5th. I tried to open my account to update my credit card information and I could not access my account. I called the telephone support number and got a woman who could barely speak English and could not seem to understand what it was I wanted.

She kept me on the phone for nearly half an hour while she "checked" my account, and then suddenly kicked me off the phone altogether. I still cannot access my account. It seems that Avast is now looking for issues in order to get you to upgrade. As I write this, a pop up has appeared half a dozen times that they have detected a potential virus and recommend that I run a scan. I have run the scan 3 times and each time it says there is no virus detected. Then the pop up appears again to tell me I need to scan for the virus they have detected. I am totally frustrated with Avast. If I can find a better substitute, I will probably opt out.

I look at my C drive and sure enough, it is 100% full with no space remaining. So I delve into some research to see what is taking up all the space on my hard drive and there should be 100 gig of free space on my 250 gig hard drive but somehow it is all used up.

I only can find 126 gig of files on my hard drive, so what is using up the remaining space? Has Avast really hijacked my hard drive and then wants to sell me cleanup software to get my hard drive space back. This is a scam and I can't believe that I have made a purchase from this underhanded company. I will be asking for my money back and telling everyone I know that this company scams its customers. It seems for my entire System, Passwords and Web, "No Shields are Activated." Who turned them off? It certainly was me. They show zero files infected but zero files were scanned. Is this a Scam? Do you have to pay a sizable upgrade fee to get any protection? When trying to login to my account with Avast via my Google Account, "Avast would like to: View your e-mail address" and "View your basic profile info." Shouldn't they have this information? After the Kaspersky scare earlier this year, I switched to Avast when our IT specialist recommended them. At first, I liked (and still do) the intuitive interface. I did the trial and it worked well, so I decided to buy the premier protection package for a year. That's when the trouble happened. When my trial ran out, I should have been switched automatically to the paid subscription for protection, but got a flashing red message that says "Your License Has Expired." It looked scary so I called technical support.

They said protection was still running in the background so I was protected (good!) but the message said the protection was expired (bad!). Turns out, it was just way to get me to call so they could sell me another package ($80) to "remove conflicting antivirus programs." What?! Best buy will do it as part of their annual laptop maintenance program, which is about $30 per year. A much better deal. Either way, $80 to get the warning message cleared is immoral. For the subscription rate, you shouldn't have to wonder whether your subscription is working because of a purposefully misleading warning.

Oh, and I also bought the Avast VPN SecureLine VPN program. But it regularly gets disconnected in hotels and other public wi-fi systems when I need it most. Pretty unreliable. My thought is, if Avast is trying to upsell you like this, how else might they be cutting corners with your protection or otherwise trying to maximize profit from us instead of protecting us?

Upon the recommendation of friends and a reasonably strong Consumer Reports Score, I got rid of AGI when I realized I had been the victim of one of the companies claiming to clear your computer of trojans and phishing software and downloaded Avast Internet Security. Avast started out with a "free" download that eventually cost me $300.00 once they convinced me that they had to clean my "root directory." The cleaning process took them four hours and when they finished this preliminary sweep and cleaning, several applications that were working before they took control of my computer were no longer operating. I had to argue with them and demand to speak to a supervisor before they restored my computer to where I could once again save documents in Microsoft Word and access my email account on Yahoo, which were not malfunctioning before they supposedly removed the malware.

I still can't use Firefox because of something they did that I can't explain. They claim nothing they did could have been the cause of the Firefox problem, yet I can't access Firefox without an Avast password. The computer thinks I have paid for an Avast password keeping system, which I do not have and have no record of paying for, yet without this password, I can't use Firefox.

Today I lost my internet connection and an Avast popup advised me to call Avast Total Care about the problem. It took 45 minutes for them to verify that I had an account, though I gave them my account number. Then they said there was nothing they could do and denied the Avast system prompted me to contact them. Avast has been obnoxious and condescending throughout our brief relationship. I only signed up for the service on Aug. 31, 2017, and I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau.

I admit I don't know much about how computers work or why they are so easily hijacked. I am accustomed to reading books and understanding concepts. I'm lousy at dodging technology hype. Is there a book that sets out the baseline of information a person needs to know to use technology these days? By baseline, I mean the basics upon which to continue to update and build knowledge as things change. I thought Avast was the company to trust, but I was wrong. Every week they offer something else I "need," and at this point I no longer believe them about anything.

First thing I did after installation was download and install Avast Internet Security. It would not accept my license. I logging into my avast account from their website and made sure I only had one computer on it, deleting the old one, and still no luck. I restarted, repaired, and reinstalled Avast and it would not recognize the license Avast gave to me from their support page to be valid even though it showed I had 218 days left for it on my account. I don't everything but I know quite a bit. I halfway through a cybersecurity degree and about to take my Security+ cert too. We have delved into ethical hacking, VPNs, Network Security, and Firewalls to name a few classes.

I have learned more than your average pc user to say the least. So I called their customer support, they remote connected to my pc and I watched them fumble around dumbfounded as to why things were not working. They started going through folders and in AppData found a folder labeled CEF and asked if I knew what it was. I said I was not familiar with it so they said they would look it up. They pulled up a website on my computer and scrolled down, past explanations for this CEF folder which stated it was normal, it wasn't cause for concern, it was sometimes used with this and that, and went to the part where it could sometimes be used for viruses. They insisted this was preventing Avast from installing properly and that my computer had a virus.

They directed me to their total care packages and said they could fix the issue themselves if I paid either $119 or $199 for their package. To recap, I paid money already for their product to prevent myself, fix if infected, and use other services that could help in the situation they suggested I was suffering from, and their solution was to spend more money. When I explained the very unlikelihood of their suggested thoughts on why Avast would not install and why, they insisted that this was the only way they could help get their product to work which I already paid for. I told them basically my problem was not with my computer but with their software so I was better off just going to a competitor and saving $50-$150. They then said that in that case they would be willing to give me a $40 discount...

I uninstalled their program, downloaded Malwarebytes premium, surprise surprise no infection was found. Popped in a thumb drive and booted up Vipre Rescue just in case I was dealing with a tricky ** and again, no virus. I ran a SFC/Scannow which verified all system files were sound and updated all my drivers and I came to the simple conclusion that I had before, it wasn't my computer, it was their program. No issues with anything else and clearly these people are just looking to screw over customers and get their money. They had no interest in fixing a problem for a paying customer and simply wanted me to cough up more money.

I feel truly sorry for those less knowledgeable who would not be able to see through their misdiagnosis at best and straight up scam at worst and have been swindled out of hundreds of dollars. This is not a good company with your best interest at heart. Stay away from them. Over 200 days left on my license I have decided to move onto a competitor.

I kept getting emails about re-newing Avast CleanUp. I did not respond by to one and that was to cancel my renewal. Today I get an email and they have already charged my MC $41.99. I went to go their site to cancel yet again called avast.com/find-order and could not sign in using my ID & PW or the alternate Email & Last 4 of my SS. The site kept saying "Invalid Info" and the site just kept returning me to the Look Up Your Order page. When I called the support person kept me online for many minutes and then because he could not help me I got his supervisor. The supervisor wanted to charge me $80 bucks to cancel a $41.99 order I didn't place or re-new.

I re-installed my O.S. last week and have a bare bones setup with minimal apps/drivers installed. I woke up today to a pop-up on my desktop from Avast (which is another problem unto itself) telling me I have "performance" issues. I thought, "Oh yeah, this should be funny". So I clicked on the "fix my pc" button to investigate the log of "errors" they found and boy did I have a hard time getting up from the floor after laughing so hard. I'm running Windows 7, client, and Avast tells me I need to "tweak to allow multiple TS Sessions".

That's a server function! Why in the hell is Avast asking me to tweak my TS settings when it's relating to Terminal Services? As for their list of "user tweaks": foreground lockout timeout, menu show delay, extended sounds... Really Avast? Really? Are you so pathetic that you grab for money from unsuspecting people by virtue of telling them the equivalent to "You have a bug on your windshield, and you're now using too much fuel. Let us rebuild your engine with parts you don't need."

I used to support Avast as their software was okay for a free package, but with the desktop popups happening a lot more now (a virus in itself) and now these flaky reasons to send them money to "tune" my PC! I studied computer systems engineering in the 90s, and have been using computers since the TRS-80 was a thing, and it's with this background that these tactics are seen as a complete insult to the PC community. You want my money Avast? I have lots of it, you just need to EARN it, and not by lying.

    Hi there,

The new cleanup tools from both Avast and AVG do not recommend this in any way -- can you verify if you have the latest version? If not, once you perform an update you will not be recommended this action as a tune up.

Also, in regards to notifications and popups, we do have these in Avast Free (it's how we can support Free) but they can easily be disabled in any upgraded product. You can also use Game Mode/Silent Mode!

We hope this helps and thank you for your review.

I noticed a charge on my Visa card from Avast. When I called to ask why they had charged my card, the recording sent me to the website. Once there, it asked for my account, then told me I didn't have one. When I tried to create an account, it told me I already had one. When I FINALLY got to a human being, he took me through the same steps, with the same results. To be fair, this charge initially was made by my husband, knowing we had an account with Avast and assuming it was a charge I would agree to. When I learned of it, I tried to cancel it. When I received notices, I tried to cancel them. Apparently that didn't work. I have disputed the charge with Visa.

Updated on 10/25/2018: They asked me to contact them. I didn't see it then because it was done here at CA. I spent hours digging up the info, and receipt for them. They wanted to investigate it. Here is what became of it. "Thank you for the response. I'm going to escalate this to our consumer escalations team so they can handle this directly for you. Do you have a preferred email address they can contact you at?" -Avast Team.

This is what they e-mailed me. "I am very sorry about this situation, but unfortunately, we can't refund an order that was purchased last 12/31/14. It's almost 4 years ago. Reviewing our internal records, I can see this order has been disputed by you or someone on your behalf. I would also like to inform you we don't work with that company anymore, I am not able to escalate this case to their supervisor. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me again. Thank you very much in advance for your cooperation and patience."

This is my response. "If you read everything you would see I did get my refund. I was telling people how to get theirs in my original complaint. I was telling them what kind of lies to watch for. You guys wasted a lot of my time back then and put me under enormous stress. So I don't know why you don't work with those people anymore and I didn't ask for this to be escalated. You may have hired more of the same type of people. You guys responding to my complaint to again waste my time is frustrating. At $30 an hour plus benefits and you have cost me 12 hours. You owe me $360 for the portion of my life at least just for the time. A lot more for the anguish.

There was no one else given to contact. So my stand is I still DO NOT recommend you. Can't be trusted, act concerned and when it's all over it's "we need more info", "very sorry" and "we don't work with them anymore", "unable to do anything", "If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me again." Thanks and leave me alone. Oh I have stopped at least 11 people from using your service just by telling them my testimony. I don't know how many from my Consumer Affairs complaint. That is without making any real effort to do so. You haven't made things better. JUST WASTING A FEW MORE HOURS OF THE ONLY LIFE I'M GIVEN HERE ON THIS EARTH. Yes I was upset with them. That has been my experience with them for years."

Original Review: Lied up front for everyone. I my credit card got my $179.99 back! I had to provide estimates from 2 computer repairs services that stated that replacing a hard drive would get rid of any virus because they told me that still wasn't good enough! This was a couple a years ago (10/15-1/16) but people are still having trouble with them. Here's the story: Had problems after an update with Avast Antivirus and downloading VLC media player that "required it's browser". Later VLC said that wasn't their home site. They were at the top of the search page. Started getting blue screens later. Called Avast and they looked and found “conduit” a browser hijacker. The agent played it up as a high risk to my computer and online account transactions. Some other issues were also found and overly exaggerated. I know now. I asked him “If it is so bad then why didn't your software catch it”.

He Found a folder from Norton AntiVirus and said they were conflicting and stopped them from catching it. I have never had Norton loaded in my computer. I did a free virus search and then removed it. May have been left from that. He found a Comodo file and said that has to be removed. I said it's empty. He said it had to come out. (Later I pointed it out to the tech and he just deleted it. No big deal.) He said it would cost $179.99 for a one year plan to clear it up. I could use every week if needed. I needed the tools and licenses to remove it and the other issues. Well I said I would just get a new hard drive and upgrade my windows since I still have XP. He said “That won't work. It's in your computer!”. I said, "You mean that it is somewhere other than software?" He said, "You have to do this first before you do that." He pulled up an article about conduit on Wikipedia. I couldn't read it while he was talking and there was a dialog window over it.

He had access to my computer with quick connect. So I had no choice according to him. First tech fumbled around and lost connection. The second did a lot and my computer did run faster. Still got blue screens with the same error messages “YOUR SYSTEM HAS RECOVERED FROM A SERIOUS ERROR” and researched conduit and there are sites that tell you how to get rid of it. It is a nuisance not the risk he pointed out. The main point is my idea would have worked! So I called back and explained and pointed out the fraud (lies, misinformation, fear tactics, and high pressure sales tactics). They reviewed my account and said I had service done and have a one year plan so they could make an appointment with a more skilled tech. I said I had service done because your salesman told me all of those lies! He said maybe he was confused over the many viruses out there was all. I said then he was wrong.

I want my money back. I said “So you have no problem with one of your sales reps getting my contract by lying or using false information?”. He was quiet and then says, "Your computer was infected." I said I know it and he said getting a new HD and Windows upgrade wouldn't fix it. That is wrong. When I researched it, it said that removing a hard drive to get rid of a virus is like moving to a new home to get rid of a mouse and he agreed. At least he said, "Uh huh." He never denied that. So my idea would have not only worked. It would have updated my computer for about the same amount of money!

So I asked for someone else to talk to and he said he was the supervisor. I asked for someone higher up. He said there was no one higher up. So according to him I called and got the top man in the whole company for complaints first try! Does anyone believe that? I said, "Right now I'm going to finish the work myself because I don't trust you anymore and I'm going to file a complaint with the FCC." So for now I called my credit card and contested the charges as fraudulent and they have credited my account and are going to be the go between for now to settle this. I wonder if they are going to be honest with this or be like some other people I have met in the past. You back them in a corner and they come out lying. Wish it was recorded and I could have put up a link for you hear it. I did get refunded 2016.

Yet when I went and did the research myself it was just a DNS server error and a USB drive reset. Had to spend 2-4 hours doing my own research to get Avast to work again. Why did I pay such a stupid company to protect and clean up my PC, only to have them tell me the wrong info and waste so many hours of my busy day? Avast anti-virus for Mac did not protect my Mac. In fact Apple said it had bloatware that destroyed it's interface so it crashed and my back up had failed so I have to start with a clean mac. I had premium service for Mac as well as their private VPN (paid). I called Avast and they charged me $150 for full professional help. It did not work. The tech people disconnected and nothing was resolved until I took it to the Apple Store. It was temporarily resolved. The VPN did not stop anything. Also these tech guys told me to go to the post office and ship very close by and they would still be working on it but they were not. It's a joke. I am going to do a charge back on it. Because there was nothing premium about it.

In the end the whole Mac had to be reinstalled but luckily pics were saved in icloud as well as docs and google photos as well as other online storage services for doc but apps are gone and have to reinstall. On my mac free Comcast Xfinity bitdefender found malware but I could only uninstall three out of 5 and Avast found it to be clean.

My tech people that I go to locally on my Lenovo installed free Avira because it also crashed. They say all anti-virus software is a joke. But the free avira had so many ads and pop-ups to buy it that I decided that the devil I knew is better than the devil I didn't know. The premium paid for service is laughable. So I put in the Avast free now and it also has pop-ups. I mainly use the Mac so it's not a big deal but I use windows for other things like Office not too often.

I am very disappointed in Avast and think it sucks now. Their VPN is not an always on VPN so you have to reconnect it. It didn't intercept antivirus on my mac or my windows 10 (paid versions of both antivirus and private vpn on both). I now use NORDVPN on my mac and their tech team is USA based so they can understand me and I can understand them. I am not averse to dealing with tech people outside the country but these days things are a little weird so probably better to deal with people in the USA and Nord can travel with you world wide. It's an always on VPN.

It's just not Avast or Avira, it's all the anti-virus software. They now have free access to our accounts that's to our government not caring about privacy anymore so they know what we like and bombard us with pop-ups. However Avast did not work on either the mac version or the windows 10 paid version when I paid for both and the VPN. They didn't even discount me or bundle the deal but it wouldn't have worked anyway!

The one thing they were good at is finding malware in MacMail my gmail on that but my gmail on chrome never had viruses or malware so the whole thing is weird since I never read macmail but I can't remove it because Apple doesnt let me so that is where some of it came from. Even though I did not access it I did try to remove it. Apple seems to think that it's impossible for a mac to have a virus because of their firewall which I used instead of Avast's and Avast recommended it as well. All of this stuff should be supplied by the government anyway due to all that is going on with hacking and collusion somewhere with foreign governments. In government and business, transparency is the key and not spying on what we click on like in the old days. Times are worse for consumers than ever.

Wish I would have looked on here before dealing with this company. I'm writing this from my phone because I can't use my computer after running their cleanup software. I noticed a charge on my PayPal account from a company I didn't recognize or authorize. Looked into it and found out it was Avast. I have their free antivirus software but have never purchased anything from them. Called tech support because the number for customer service directs you to their website.

When I went to their website there was no account with my email. So anyway I thought I would call tech support and get someone to direct me where to go. After 30 minutes of a heated discussion with a tech and supervisor I stupidly allowed them to remotely access my computer thinking I would prove to them I didn't order anything. Big mistake. They pulled up the software and showed that there was an order. Again, stupidly, I thought maybe I or one of my kids accidentally clicked something and since they refused to refund the money I may as well get some use out of the cleanup software.

REALLY BIG MISTAKE!!! After running the cleanup, I can't do ANYTHING on my computer. That's when I googled them and found all the complaints on here. Another phone call to Avast tech support. I tried to remain calm but after getting nowhere with tech support or a supervisor I was furious. Told them I read several complaints similar to mine and I wanted a full refund. They refused. Again. They even told me it was because my computer is so old and out of date. It's a year old. How would they even know that anyway?? According to them the only thing they did when they remotely accessed my computer was look at their software. Unless they were looking at other things on my computer they would have no idea how old it is.

Anyway, I refused to let them access my computer again. Told them I was filing a complaint with the BBB and my local police department for fraudulent business practices. Told them I would file for a full refund and reimbursement of charges to get my computer fixed. They kept telling me it must be a problem with my operating system. I asked for the name of their parent company and the supervisor refused to answer. Just said "thank you for calling" and hung up. I'll be taking my computer to a local repair place in the morning and praying I didn't lose anything important. And will make sure NOTHING from Avast is on my phone.

I haven't been this aggravated in a long time! I experienced some problems in my computer after I lost all programs and local folders (minus my files) to a virus which Avast failed to intercept before it caused my losses. I had an Internet Security from them and it should've caught that bug. So I didn't complain about not catching that bug when I called but instead more important to me was to fix those problems. First of all I had a very hard time to understand their accent on the phone and it became a torture to try to understand them. I did my best and stayed on the phone with them for as long as they said they needed.

I explained in detail what the problems were but they insisted on a "free" diagnostic and as a result they recommended I buy their $150 yearly service where they'd be doing all kinds of improvements even though I told them I do all of that myself and only want them to fix my problems. But after so much persistence and offering to fix it for only one time $50, I thought well let me pay them. It'll be worth IF they solve the problems... Well, after spending so many hours on the phone and using their remote for diagnosing, etc. and more and more time on the phone... I was too tired to try it so decided to let my poor computer and myself rest until tomorrow.

Tomorrow arrived and the same problems were still there. So I called them, spoke with the supervisor and of course he denied everything until I told him I'm writing to the CEO, Mr. Vince Steckler. Then he said "Ok I'll ask the refund dept. and you'll hear from them." All of which was SO UNNECESSARY!!! For a lousy $50 they went out of their way to make my life miserable and convince me to buy that thing. The funny thing is I was thinking to get AVG instead but... I read that Avast is buying it!!! Okay! Angry beyond belief and a little paranoid. I had been a Avast customer for over 10 years. Upgraded my computer. Bought new from Best Buy. I called the Avast help number to properly install my product prior to doing anything on the computer before plugging it in and connecting it to the internet. Avast does a scan. Says that they can't install Avast because it has a Windows problem. I would need to upgrade my support to have the Windows repaired first!!! ** After a long discussion about how it is possible this happened to a computer. They said it had a Windows error that would cause Avast not to work properly. **!!!

So (THEY) give me a number of a certified Microsoft troubleshooting business that then does a scan and confirms that it has a Microsoft issue... So I admittedly stupidly, buy into it thinking that somehow I caused the snafu. In short after much deliberation I Buy support for them. Go 1 year 250 bucks. I get them to put the computer back to factory out of the box condition. And bring it back to Best Buy with some words of disgust. Wait it gets better!!! I'm then immediately plagued buy phone calls asking me about my experience with this second party company. They seem way too concerned as to why I haven't used their company to reinstall their access program on my new computer... I then go to my friendly Microsoft store. I purchase a laptop from them. Have them install all the software and assure me that everything is perfect... Call Avast BeFORe doing anything. Now they go online. I plug the computer into the internet exact steps here.

They do their magic, scan, take over my computer, show me some files on the Windows computer that are Windows files and won't allow Avast to work properly??? Sound familiar? I admit I flipped out!!! But really? Really??? Then I researched Avast. WTF. Their headquarters are in some sub province of a Russian satellite country. OMG. So now I put my tinfoil hat on and ** pray my bank info isn't being ** out to every dirtbag in cyberland. I reAlize that this text is a futile attempt. Being the company exists outside of our jurisdiction at all.

I refuse to install Avast at all on anything and if you, as others, have been manipulated by this company which seems to be the new trend of theirs. Complain at very least! I still haven't gotten my money back from Avast. I canceled my auto renew. They owe me a hell of a lot more than a year. Really people. Research this company then don your tinfoil hat and revolt against these cybercommies. All kidding aside it was an awful experience and caused by unscrupulous business practices. Had a problem three weeks ago with Smart Scan sticking on 71%. Eventually phoned after trying several times to resolve the problem. I was told there was something running in the background on my computer causing the problem. The response was, "It will cost you £90 to solve." My reply, "I'll take it to my repairer." How much will he charge? £40. Ok we'll do it for that. Speaking with them by phone, the standard of English was poor. I think the Philippines was mentioned. Took three hours to remedy. My renewal is due shortly. I've tried twice on the site to cancel, without success. Firstly they were trying to charge £59.99 and then I had a pop up for £19.99. Fortunately I paid by card. I've cancelled this card to stop any payment. Generally, a poor experience. Not to be repeated.

1st off anyone wishing to contact me via facebook I am the only ** in Stratford, Ontario. There are so many people's nightmare stories that I can relate to, one being Peter from Kingston Ontario and many others. Hope you able to contact me... It all started with my laptop running slowly and already had the free version of AVAST, anyways I run a dog sitting business from my home and do a ton of business on my laptop and could not afford to be down and my other tech people were not able to look into for me so contacted AVAST and at she talked me into the AVAST security, then that is when it all went wrong... My laptop started crashing all together wiping everything out doc's, pictures, files everything gone.

So needless to say she talks me into tech support another $159... Where she says they will fix. What is going on??? Umm yeah right, so then they get in there and tell me I need cleanup now. Well if that isn't even a worse joke, everytime the cleanup would run, it would totally wreak havoc on my system and slow everything down and upon completely shutting down my system for the night after a clean up I would wake up to a completely wiped out system again! Then the idiot tech support people who you can barely understand, constantly when you phone up do not keep records of umpteen calls and some different person gets in there and wreaks more havoc, kept telling them that it was cleanup and one guy took it out and then another day when I said, "Why am paying for this if it not even in my system" and he said, "It's not clean up" and reinstalls it again, grrrr...

Sure enough next morning completely wiped out again... Have been telling these people I want all of my money back and now am getting the run around on that. Have placed what they call a ticket into customer support with no reply as of 4 days, so now I am going to phone them tonight and dispute it on my credit card! In total ripped me off close $300. Total ripoff! Anyone wanting to compare notes feel free to contact me, think something should be done about these scam artists!

I called our internet server (after many calls where they tried to fix it via phone by resetting, which did not work!). So I told them what Avast told me. They came out and they fixed my connection. I don't even want to leave that 1 star!! Let me start out by saying how much I used to LOVE Avast!! I've been a loyal customer for... I don't know, maybe 10 years? Whatever - a very long time! Way back when their WHOLE package was built into 1 amazing product. It REALLY WORKED!! Then the company got greedy and broke up the product into separate parts... I was not happy, but stayed on anyway. Now, years later, I have found the cleanup program doesn't work as well as it used, to year by year. This year, I bought it for the last time. I did the free scan for my new laptop, it had a list of gunk to remove by their product, so bought it to find that the WHOLE LIST DIDN'T CHANGE AT ALL. It kept giving me an "error" message. When I called their hotline they said it wasn't their fault, but a Windows problem, I had to call Microsoft.

Ok... no more cleaner product. Months later (yesterday) I was using their "safe zone browser" (you know thinking it's all "safe" - right?) I get a nasty popup, using a form of ransomware from computer pirates. So before I touched anything, I called AVAST'S 24/7 hotline for help. You know what they did? They held their HELP FOR RANSOM!!! It was going to cost me about $100 for them to fix the problem!!! I said, "but I was using YOUR 'SAFE ZONE' they shouldn't have been able to get through. That should be covered by you guys!! That's what I paid for!!" They disagreed. They said it was probably already in my system. I said, "how? I have never used anything but Avast since I bought this laptop 2 years ago!!" (I even refused to use the anti-virus program my computer came with because I trusted Avast more!!)

So that was yesterday... I refused to pay. So I still have computer hackers looking through my computer as I type this right now. I will NEVER BUY from AVAST AGAIN!! And I had convinced all of my Facebook friends, family members, co-workers to use Avast as well. NEVER AGAIN. I'M TELLING THEM ALL TO STAY FAR AWAY!!!

It doesn't matter how many times you try to cancel this auto-renewal on their website or which instructions you follow. It's just impossible. And what made me very upset is why they just upgraded the product I had without my permission. If it's auto-renewal it should be for the same product you had previously. Very unhappy with Avast.

It first started when I received my notice that my yearly subscription was due a couple of weeks, so I paid it. And they said I had to download the new updates in my premiere package. Hey, I have been with Avast for a few years so I did. Almost immediately I had a new "internet access" called "RealTek PCIe GBE" and it wouldn't allow me access for a few minutes. I thought I'd been hacked. Couldn't find what it was or what to do. So I had my guru come over. He said it looks like something in Avast and changed the name to "Internet Connection". But it still does this "I got control of your internet access Not you" stuff. When I first click on my browser it comes up server not found. No internet access. So I try again... and again it would not let me onto the net. But after about 2-3 minutes I get this message from Avast "YOU ARE PROTECTED!" and then I go to my browser and yippee I'm on the net, surfing and researching.

Now Tell me. What the heck is going on with AVAST with physically not allowing me to get on the net until they say, "OK we'll let you get on"... MY internet access is thru AT&T not AVAST. It was so bad that I had AT&T come out and check my lines and internet hookup and everything on the physical lines...! So I pay for a full year of service and now I am still controlled? Get me a broom. I need to do some serious cleaning... and Avast will be the first. GEEZ.

I purchased Avast Antivirus after reading overall positive reviews from different sources on the internet. I must say I had no problem with it at all and believe it done it's job well. However I was 'upsold' a 'clean up' product when my computer was running slowly and told it would DEFINITELY resolve the issues I was having at the time. Furthermore, I would have cover for a further year and in the event of any other related issues, could contact them again without having to pay anything. In total I paid around $100, although I'm in the UK and obviously paid in pound sterling using a bank card. Anyway I was transferred to a rep in the U.S who was pleasant and seemed knowledgeable enough, again advising me that my issue would DEFINITELY be resolved. I gave him permission to remotely access my computer to clean it up and at the end of the process - NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER!

When I called back to complain, I was not able to speak to the same guy, despite having his name written down, they simply told me they wouldn't be able to put me back in touch with him. I asked for my money back and was politely told that they had worked on the 'clean up' and as such the cover had been used and was now non-refundable! Even though it didn't do what I was told it would! I actually felt cheated! And I couldn't believe that a company with such a reputable name would behave in this way. I raised a complaint and it went absolutely nowhere! Bogus! That such a big company would resort to such barefaced lying to sell a product that didn't do as they guaranteed it would, is disgusting. Despite the fact that their Antivirus was decent in so far as I could tell, for me I don't want to give another penny to these thieves. I now use the free version of Avira.

My elderly father received an email from Avast that the credit card on his account was expiring and that he needed to update his info. The email included his account number and a password he would have to enter to update his account. We tried several times and received a generic error message each time. So we called the support number on the website and followed the prompts for help with billing...which is just a recorded loop telling you to go back to the broken website form. So, we called again asking for tech support. I explained our issue to the person who finally answered the phone, but she couldn't help, so we asked to speak to her supervisor, "Kadrine".

Kadrine spoke English well (better than the first person we were on the phone with) and tried to upsell us on a Premier account for $99 - offering us a "special price" not listed on the website. I told her we did not want to upgrade, just update our billing info (the credit card expiration date). She claimed they were unable to do this. I asked how she could have taken our money for the new upgrade, but not help us update our info. She had no answer for that. This is extremely frustrating and I feel they try to take advantage of people. I do not recommend this company to anyone, especially the elderly. I'm setting my dad up with something else.

I think this is VERY SHODDY business practice. PayPal say they can't do anything about it as I "made an agreement" a year ago (when the fee was 19.99 for the year which I was happy to pay). Ok if they have to jack the fees up x 3 that's bad enough but NOT to inform their customers of their intention, a reminder perhaps? I have used Avast for the past 4 years and have been a paid AVAST Premium user for one PC and 2 Laptops. I had no problems until two days ago, when I attempted to do a weekly scan of my PC, when I tried to start I got a message telling my the AV wasn't working. In my situation my Avast just quit working. I called support. The representative I spoke to took control of my computer to see if he could resolve the issue. About fifteen min into the call he informed me there were many conflicts on my computer so he turned me over to tech support but before anyone could do anything I was asked to pay up front for the service I thought I had paid for in 2016. I paid over $179 for 2 Laptops and one PC which I was led to believe included tech support.

At first she wanted over $140 for a subscription to the service since I didn't have that kind of money she continued to drop it down and eventually informed me the lowest she could go was $50 or I would have to live with the situation and not get it resolved. So I paid and was turned over to a technician who went through my computer and after 2 days (about 12 hrs) of total time, he eventually informed me that he could not resolve the issue because I was still using the Windows XP OS. He did clean up my computer, however he DID NOT resolve the issue.

I said all that just to make you understand the first person I spoke to and the Tech should have known the AVAST Software wasn't going to work on my system so now I am out $50 more and still cannot use the AVAST on my computer. If they told me upfront I would have told the first rep just to remove the AVAST from my computer. To me, this service is designed to get a customer's money no matter what! Since the original problem was not resolved I asked if there was a chance to get my $50 back. The tech informed me the payment was to clean up my computer not to resolve the issue. If the issue was resolved during this process all the better.

If I could get that refunded because it had risen so much and also you have to actually add the license to your program so I wasn't actually using the product that I paid for. But have had no response it has been 5 days. My bet would be they are going to wait another like 12 days or something and then be like "oh we are sorry you have had the chance to use it for 20 days. I've been a long-time loyal and paid Avast customer for over six years. I installed Avast on my new computer and within a year got a bug. I was unaware that McAfee was preloaded on my computer and had never paid for it or used it. Avast said that their software doesn't work with McAffee, and it was my fault, even though they never brought this to my attention. Shouldn't their software still work? Even though I paid about $200 last year to protect my computer, they wanted to charge me an additional $200 to fix it. Terrible and rude customer service. The supervisor was insulting and I will be cancelling my subscription. Disappointing.

I have used Avast on my desktop for several years and was happy with it. Recently my computer crashed. My tech restored everything except the Avast because (she said) I needed to do that one myself. (I was using the paid version, not the free download.) It wasn't due to expire for several months. Also, I had another version of it (also paid for) on my Android phone.

I called Avast and asked them to reinstall my paid-for Avast. The Avast representative found my purchase records, and suggested I should take my computer to a technical company every two months (or at the minimum, every six months) for a complete virtual cleaning. I knew that was ridiculous, so I just went back to my original request. Then he very kindly and patiently asked me if I was a top-level expert in working with computers. I said no, but that I'm pretty good. He recommended that I purchase their $300/2 yrs maintenance program. I said "No thank you", and restated my request. He said he would charge me $100. To give me the link to what I've already paid for? Yes.

I said I would just download the free Avast software then, and he said "No, that wouldn't work". He implied that there would be some sort of preventive on my computer. I doubted that, unless he put it there, but by this time I don't want to work with them anymore and said goodbye. I've now downloaded another antivirus program. THERE'S SOMETHING FISHY GOING ON WITH AVAST!

We believe you may not have been speaking with genuine Avast support as all that was needed was for you to download the free version of the software and then insert your activation code or license file within the settings menu in order to access your upgraded feature set. Please contact us privately with the number you dialed and any information you may still have connected to this experience so we can investigate further and resolve this issue for you.

The sign up process is extremely confusing. The Avast online ads led me to believe I needed to upgrade various types of coverage. I purchased several kinds of coverage and was given a subscription ID. Then I received an Avast message saying I needed a license. So, I'm out of pocket for coverage but do not have a license to use the coverage. Very deceptive advertising.

In January of 2016 I purchased Avast Cleanup. However, I did not recall the purchase, never received a download and could never use the product. Did I try to? Yes, because a box popped up suggesting I optimize my computer so I tapped the button to "Cleanup" the computer. All I got was another box suggesting I purchase the product. I discovered this issue when in December of 2016 I was charged $39.99 for a renewal of the Cleanup product. I contested that charge and received a refund - I went through PayPal. After emailing and calling the company I discovered that due to Avast's policies no refund is possible. I suggested a complimentary product for the coming year to compensate for not receiving the earlier product. The answer was no. Avast's Antivirus seems to work. Maybe Cleanup does also. But customer service is lacking and buyers must be vigilant.

I've used Avast Free Antivirus before and it was as good as AVG. I've tried to install it on the PCs of my previous work and it worked fine. It's fast to open and scan. Now their new version is quite heavy on PC -- the size is big and it's slower to open compared to their old one. I have Win7 and the new version should have gone fast with my OS. So I just used another antivirus software to run on my PC. I'm still satisfied though; it's a good software.

I've gone through several antivirus softwares, from AVG to Norton to Avira. Avast is my personal favorite because it's probably the most effective and comprehensive virus scanner out there. Just a few minutes ago as I was typing this, it blocked a potential virus for me, which is phenomenal. I can't imagine how many times my Avast has blocked so many potential viruses on my laptop, and for that I am thankful. I've thought a lot about possibly getting the Pro version, but I figured the free version's enough to keep my laptop virus-free and I don't have Pentagon-level classified files on me anyway, so there. Thank you Avast for keeping millions of computers and laptops around the world virus-free. I will continue to be an avid fan and supporter!

I got the Avast Antivirus since November 2015 and I haven't had any major issues with it. It provides basic antivirus scan but requires me to upgrade to be able to use other features. I had a minor glitch once when I needed to update then the software will not get activated every time I open my computer - I had to manually activate it before using my PC. Another update fixed this issue, and I never had any succeeding problems whatsoever. Maybe the usual pop-up window reminding me to upgrade gets a bit irritating at times, but nonetheless, everything has been okay.

I purchased and installed Internet Security and the SecureLine VPN before beginning a vacation to Hawaii and the Philippines. My Lenovo Twist laptop was working fine when l left home. I had recently installed Avast Internet Security and SecureLine VPN, so when I was on hotel WiFi or any other internet source outside the main 48 states, I would not be infected or hijacked. Hawaii presented no issues. The first 5 days in the Philippines went fine. I connected the Secureline VPN each time I went online.

The 6th day I was there, my PC was no longer able to make a internet connection. Furthermore it began overheating with about 15 minutes of use, and would blue-screen. It seems infected with some type of malware. I have run scans, but have been unable to find or remove the issue. The Avast software was purchased to prevent this situation. I feel let down by your company and your product.

Since filing this complaint as a service request with Avast 2 months ago, there has been several back and forth emails. None of the suggested tactics by Avast support recovered Windows 8.1. I asked for a refund, but all they responded with "we're sorry, now try this." I finally sent in the laptop in for warranty work and had them format it and put in a fresh new OS. Whatever malware my device picked up in Manila left it useless. Avast was not able to identify it.

The reason for two stars instead of one, comes from all of the years I have used the free product. It's worked fine, I don't remember ever needing to format and start over. So the free simple version may be fine for use inside the USA, but when traveling abroad, I will be using a different anti-virus. It's not worth paying $85 to be disappointed.

I try not to put anything important on here, because I am not at all assured it will prevent a virus. I don't recall any information on what is covered, therefore I do not really know what it does!

Avast runs a forum style customer support, with lots of helpers in the forums who are very responsive. Avast is one of the most feature rich free A/V out there. You can personalize it pretty well. Avast comes with both free and paid versions of their product, and both are well above average. Avast is very reliable at catching and removing malware and viruses. If you're looking for a free A/V or a less expensive internet security tool that runs light in the background, Avast is a good one to consider.

Pop-up blockers, malware detection, suspicious sites, questionable "certificates", and all that I would expect from higher-priced software. I use the "Free" version and it's absolutely wonderful! Always up and running in the past 4 years since I've been using it, it "crashed" only once and even then, the customer support got me back up and running. Highly recommended and the "Free" version is this good, the paid must be extraordinary!

No real need to contact them. Never had a problem with AVAST. The basic version has all of the features I need and a fun one: Pirate Talk. The optional features are good, but not essential for most users. One of the best features is it is one of the most efficient AntiVirus software products on the market taking the least number of CPU cycles. You can't beat perfect record and free. It does not always detect Malware however, so you need a separate program like MalWare Bytes to run occasionally.

Avoid programs like SpyBot that install routines that run on their own. No danger to your computer, but can cause slowing or freezing of your PC when you try to use it. It's been rock-solid on every PC I've used it on. The only exception has been users that override it and download viruses and virus-like Malware. Using common sense, this Antivirus works perfectly, with one exception: the FireFox browser. It has on occasion, blocked certain programs from executing on FireFox.

Features included with Avast free version are awesome - real time scanning, reports etc. The paid version is even better but too full featured for most users I imagine. I love the Silent Mode and the outdated software updater/scanner. Free version is great. Paid version comes with multiple licenses for the whole family to use and is quite affordable. Never had any issues with viruses or malware in 5+ years of using Avast! It is very reliable in catching and identifying issues. Great interface, easy to use. Unobtrusive. Lovely product. I've had no problems with function of antivirus as far as I know. My major preference to have my security software working quietly in the background - for the most part Avast does that.

We have very little if any control over our accounts. If we need to make a change, we have to contact CS to have the change made: i.e. method of payment, change of cc, or canceling account. The basic features worked good. The big problem is the deceptive way the company tries to trick you into purchasing more features that you really do not need. They do this when it is time to renewed the account and sometimes every time you turn on your computer. I have also caught many false positives.

The last time, I got hounded into trying new features, I said that is enough and had my account canceled. It was good at letting me know about updates needed. If they would stop pushing features that turn out to be untested and sometimes turn out to be bad, I probably would still have Avast in my computer. I do have the free version in my second computer, but will not put the pro version in like I had on my work computer.
