There are 2 phone services used by Marion County Jail. Both are terrible!! Very confusing - globaltell.com and globaltel.inc - both (GTL) -very costly and hard to contact (even when I got a phone number and called only a recording came on no real person). Both deny existence of the other. When inmate calls the service interrupts continually trying to have added services put on account. The charge is $0.26 a minute plus the connection fee which varies up $5.95 per call. (Not many calls can be made at those prices!) Then they charge another $5.95 each time to add money to the account. It is a rack sanctioned by the government. Very misleading names and taking advantage of the families of the inmates - not everyone has an unlimited amount of money to stay in contact with their inmate.

I use Global Tel Link to stay in contact with my husband at the Indiana Department of Corrections - Pendleton. Over the last few months our calls have been getting disconnected around the fifteen minute mark, meaning he has to call me back and we have to go through the whole process again. I have called to complain to no avail. I keep getting told that I can't get credit which I did not ask for. Today I was told that no call over five minutes would be researched. If anyone else is experiencing this issue please get in contact with me. My next call is to FCC.

My husband was at jail and service constantly cut off with no warning and no way to track cost of calls. The prices of these calls are outrageous to say the least. You disagree and they are always right. Doubled cost several times. They use your love to cost their pockets. Connection with family is sometimes all that keeps people sane behind bars and families shouldn't be racked over the coals.

I used this company to talk to my son. I gave my credit card information and then my phone was lost. So I told them that this was a temporary number that I was using in order to talk to my son and that the phone number would be back to the regular number. After buying a new phone and calling back to add my funds to my old number they refuse to put my own money back on my number and I check my account and they still took money out of my account for a number that's not in service. I spoke with a negative person name Victor who was supposed to send my call to a supervisor and had me on hold for 30 minutes then hung up.
Please if anyone is suing contact me. I truly dislike this service. But I really need to keep in contact with my son. Also was given the wrong information about my refund in which I have yet to receive. This company is a scam to the inmates' family. I didn't commit a crime - why are we suffering and being taken advantage of. They don't deserve any star. I just have to in order to complete this review.

So my eldest brother is in Cañon City prison, and within the last week he's tried calling numerous times, and every time we answer, we get nothing but what sounds like an obnoxious and deafening disconnected beeping on the other end. What does this mean? And how does it get fixed?

My Daughter was arrested and calling me from the jail. Never can I imagine a longer wordier phone system in my life. After 2+ minutes of BS it asks for my credit card, then exp date, then sec code, then zip code... I mean really? And it has to repeat all this stuff. Then says more BS and by the time I get all that stuff done it tells me the caller has disconnected... I don't know if there is a time limit on how long someone on a jail phone can wait but I've received around 30 calls today from my daughter without getting through. I complained to the jail. They said, "Create a prepaid account." Ok great. I did that. It still talks for a couple minute and after it gave me this wordy thank you for using Global Tel*Link services. Thinking I'm done I say hello? Then it thanks me again and tells me my party has hung up!
This service need to get rid of the freaking ** messaging when I created an account. Believe me by the time I have created the account I've heard more than enough of their crap. Just let me click accept and talk to the caller. The service needs to tell the caller something like "We are contacting your caller and this process will take 5-10 minutes please stay on the line." I'm VERY unhappy and furious about this. My daughter has been calling since 6 am this morning no doubt completely freaked out and isn't able to get through to anyone. She probably thinks her father is mad and is tossing her out to dry.

I made a accident and put 64 dollars on my daughter's phone account. I meant to put it on her books. I called them and they said they couldn't put the money in the advance trust account because it was over 24 hrs. I'm so pissed. They need to fix this.

I purchased phone time for my wife who is locked up in Middlesex county jail. Only $25.00 credit. She only has a week left. She hasn't called yet and I'm yet to have an issue but after reading all the complaints, it seems painfully obvious that I'm doomed as well. I'm now feeling because MCI ripped us off a few years ago when I was in Valhalla Westchester county jail in NY. My wife put $50 on my phone account. After only $20 was used I could no longer call. A recording would say I must maintain $30 balance in order to continue calls. Please keep balance above $30 to avoid interruptions.
I got released the next day and was unable to get a refund for the remaining $30. Now just think of how many people they do this to every year? Most people are so happy to be free. They not even thinking about the money left on the phone account. Now that's a serious scam and I'm not sure but I believe they are no longer in business. Now GTL is scamming people. Time to take them down.

I have been having problems with receiving calls from D. Ray James in Folkston, GA. When answering the inmate call through my cell phone, the machine automatically states that my call is being rejected without giving me options to choose. After calling everyday to GTL and asked to get this problem fixed for me and other people, they refuse to give me a call and stated that I may have to change my phone number. That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Through my cell phone provider, everything is fine on their end. Till this day after calling everyday, they ignore me. Thankfully a correctional agent from the facility has told me that she will try her best to help me. Not guaranteed but gave me a peace of mind. But if anyone else knows, please guide me to report this matter up higher. Greatly appreciated.

GTL used to be useful because I have been using it for a number of years however in the last several months it has really been useless! After an inmate makes the call if there is no money on the account the automated system used to have them hold while the call is completed. Now the system tells them to call back and the inmate will hang up even though I am on the line putting my credit card in the system. By the time I do it the inmate has hung up or it has disconnected the inmate during the process but the best part is that it doesn't even let you do that on the automated system anymore! The automated system now tells you no matter what amount you enter that it is an insufficient amount to deposit whether you put in $5 or even $50!
So therefore you have to speak to a representative which is useless as well. I had one today actually that was extremely rude and ended up transferring to another center. After I asked to speak to a supervisor! I have complained about the automated system not taking the amounts at all on numerous occasions however they still have not fixed it and I am certain if I am having this issue I cannot be the only one in the country that is! I have decided that I am going to contact the BBB in my state regarding this company and to see if there is a class action suit that can be put on them as well because of the fees as well I didn't even get into that on here. My customer service experience alone was enough to show the incompetence of this company!

When using the only service offered out of our county jail I experienced nothing but trouble. The fees for the call are not listed anywhere and are not told to you through the automated system. Rates of calls changed with no notice. The rate of the call that you accept and are told that is being charged has never been the amount that's charged. It is always more. I called customer service for the 10th+x to only be told that the FCC changes rates and no one is notified. Then told they listened to my call and it specifically told me my fee. I asked to listen to the same phone call they listened to. To see what I had missed! (Although I have used this service for a little time now & there was never anything that told me my charges outside of .5cents for 30 minutes which is a $1.50 but I'm charged $1.62). This lady said "NO I'm not allowed." She told me and that's what it was!!! I can't believe this & will be doing more to stop this abuse of our human rights.

The app never works, and when you call the customer service they never help you out. I called to add money to my phone and they answer and hung up 3 times after waiting like 15 minutes each time. Finally I was able to speak with someone and just to have them tell me that I needed to call another number or Google the information because that was not their region. Called the number and same thing waited and when I spoke to someone they just told me to call the number I had called in the first place. They are rude and never have an answer for you. They just keep saying “You reach the wrong department,” but yet the website tell you to call those numbers. On top of everything the transactions that showed up as failed in the app were actually deducted from my bank account several times. There is no rates. Either so they just charge different rates for the calls. They are a joke and just take your money.

I believe that there should be a class action lawsuit filed against Global Tel *Link. First off there is no privacy while talking to your loved one in regards to the interruptions, that takes up more of your time, and money because you obviously have to pause until the recorder stops interrupting you in the middle of your conversation, by telling you that the calls are coming from a correctional facility, something that, we are already aware of, so therefore we as customers are not really getting 15 minutes talk time, and at the end of the conversation she again interrupts the conversation by saying that "you have 60 seconds left" and a second after she announces that "you have 60 seconds left," she says that "you have 30 seconds left."
So after all of the interruptions we as customers are NOT getting a 15 minute call, a 15 minutes call should be without being interrupted, also it should be a flat monthly rate so that people will be able to afford these calls. These calls are too expensive and overpriced which is ridiculous for those individuals who are on low income status, and for those individuals who does not make a lot of money on their jobs. This is Corporate Greed! These individuals does not deserve this one star. The business sucks and the employees, the majority of the time are very rude, and act like police officers.

Global Tel Link is the only way you can receive calls if you have a friend or family member in a correctional facility. Unfortunately over the last 5 years I have had to use this service, and there has not been a problem. As a matter of fact I used it 2 days ago no problem. Today I go to use the system and after making my payment I was not connected to the person calling as usual. I called customer service and they said that they have just changed how they do service. The customer service rep could not tell me if the inmates were aware of the changes.
Also they now require you to call them back after you pay. You now have to give them your phone number again, and your address or you cannot receive any phone calls. This is the only service offered for you to have contact with someone. I firmly believe that this is a conglomerate situation much like telephone service was 40 years ago. Granted inmates are in jail for a reason, that doesn't mean the families should suffer.

May 31 2016 I deposited $25.00 for my son in BCJ. They did not explain well when depositing money. They have me as recipient not my son. I'm not in jail. There is no live person to talk to when the phone number for customer service provided is called. I sent an email to them and waiting for a reply. To those who say class action, sign me up. Or tell me who to contact to get the ball rolling.

For those with phone/call issues, try using an out-of-state phone number for your account -- either by creating or changing your cell phone # if using a cell phone to accept calls, OR (recommended) create a Google Phone number account with Google. Google Phone allows you to choose your area code (i.e. out-of-state area code & number) and then allows you to have calls to that number forwarded to any phone including multiple phones. (My Google phone account is setup to automatically forward calls to both my home & cell phones, and "generally" works without issue.)
At least in Texas, interstate calls from the inmate are then charged a lower rate (for most, just like your home phone long distance where interstate calls cost less than intrastate calls) and not subject to an "all or nothing" 15 minute call -- your prepaid GTL phone account is charged for the time you actually talk whether it be for only 1 minute or for the full 15 minute duration (whatever the maximum call length is for your area and/or as specified by contract between GTL & the incarcerating entity).
Yes, your phone account deposit is still subject to GTL's "fee" for the deposit itself -- flat $7.95 fee is what I incur. And while their system indicates a specific cost for each minute, there are still taxes, etc. added. For example, the interstate calls described above are stated to cost me $.21 per minute. But after taxes & fees (excluding the deposit fee), the cost per minutes is actually $.29 per minute. Additional recommendation: Be vigilant in reviewing your phone account balance online. Glitches for me have occurred (i.e. incorrect balance after a deposit or call) but have been temporary... to a certain extent, I make a little allowance for "computer issues". And knowing your balance before & after a call (and how long you talked on that call -- use a timer) will help in determining "actual" per minute cost.
Customer Service & Tech Support -- I stand with everyone regarding GTL's primary "customer service" group -- they are a FARCE! Ineptness is more than polite in describing them. For some of the "technical" issues I've had I've got straight to their Tech Support. No, you cannot get Customer Service to provide you with a number or e-mail. I went through GTL's corporate website (www.GTL.net) and their "Facility Support" -- "Technical Contacts" web page link to create a Tech Support Ticket myself (online form) and was also able to obtain their Tech Support phone number too. Main Tech Support email address (obtained via follow-up direct e-mails with Tech Support reps) is support@dsiiti.com.
While this site is stated to be for those at the jail facility GTL serves, I managed to get at least two technical issues resolved going this route (not giving up & going around their general customer service group) -- noting here that I never stated I was a jail employee but proceeded as if I were (sometimes referring to myself in third-person). However, my current technical issue with GTL, responded to by a "Tier 3" Tech Support rep has met with resistance.
Additional Note: While I was successful with one Tech Support ticket (inmates being dropped from GTL's database), another involving money required me to ultimately file a fraud claim with my bank. I made two trust fund (commissary) deposits via GTL's website and both processed to my bank. However, the deposits did not process to the jail -- remained in "pending" status on GTL's side. While GTL resolved the issue going forward, again I was forced to go through my bank to get reimbursed for the "pending" funds via an official fraud complaint -- GTL never refunded the monies. And my current issue (battle)... While GTL's system will accept my credit card for phone account deposits, it now declines deposits to my friend's trust fund account (same credit card, and bank has confirmed no issues on their side and in fact confirmed that the "declined" transactions are not even getting to them, the bank.)
Overall Recommendation: While contacting applicable federal agencies (as noted in other people's posts) is certainly warranted, where we likely may have the most impact is with jail facility's governing entity and/or County/State officials. These services are often by contract with the governing entity (i.e. County Sherriff's Office or County Commissioners or the like). Let your voice be heard by them... And perhaps when GTL is being contacted by the appropriate "client" official, something might actually get done.

We need to all call our State Attorney General. I doubt any individuals would recoup the overcharges if a class action lawsuit were filed as the attorneys are the ones that get rich but we could get a little back. More importantly, it would stop GTL from stealing from others. We could try filing complaints with Federal Communication Commission but doubt we get results with them.

First of all GTL phone menu system is antiquated and frustrating to use. I set up an account through my phone one day so my family member that is incarcerated could call me. The next time he called a day or so later I was able to talk to him. Since then every single call was failed to connect. I have over 20 dollars on the account and nothing is going through. The call either says immediately after accepting the call "call not accepted" or it looks like it's going to go through, starts all the disclaimers and then disconnects. I have created an online account with them setting up all of our phone numbers and all have money on them. I have called them twice and and still cannot connect. They keep saying they are "resetting" the account. I truly believe they are doing nothing. Because nothing changes. This company is a sham. After reading all the complaints on here, I am realizing I am not the only one. There should be a class action filed.

I have a loved one that is an inmate in the NC Doc system. I called and set up my account so they would be able to call home. They made several attempts to call and none of the calls would go through to a landline phone. I called GTL and the reset my account and sent the info over to the tech dept. It came back that the reason my calls were not coming thru was due to the landline was being forwarded to a cell phone. Ok, I took off my call forwarding for over a week. Still no calls coming thru.
Called GTL again, sending ticket to tech dept. I asked to speak to someone in the tech dept, "No we have no way to contact our tech dept except my email (this is what I was told)." I asked for a supervisor, told them the problem, there is money on the account but my calls are not coming thru. Was told it was not their fault, it was a block on my landline. Told him that it was their job to override the collect block since I had money on the account. Again it had to go to tech dept. Asked for the phone number to tech dept. There is no phone number for them.
Got transferred to escalation dept. Phone line was so unclear that you could not hear the person on the other end. I have been battling with this company for over a month and have yet got to talk to my love one. GTL does not care about their customers. As long as they have your money and credit card, that is all they care about. It is hard enough to have someone incarcerated, but not being able to talk to them is even harder.

I used this service 2 times. The first time I didn't stay on the phone long enough to know what would happen. But I was very unsatisfied with the amount I was charged for a 15 minute call but I understand companies have to make money whether it's dirty or not. The second time I used them I went through the whole spiel, paid 13 and some change and 1 and some change for the actual phone call. Well in the beginning of the call after it takes your card info it says of "the call is never connected. Your card won't be charged." Well mine was.
I called the customer service line. The first guy lied to me and said he didn't see where my charge was and couldn't help me. I hung up and called back 5 seconds later and the next person told me he saw it and was going to put in a request for a refund and it could take 3-5 business days. I said "ok. Whatever. It's only $15. I can wait." I call back 2 weeks later to give them some time and he said he didn't understand why it hadn't been answer but he would put an "urgent" post on it.
At that point I didn't care to waste my time. I make more than $15 at work in the time that 30 minute phone call took up. It's not the money it's the point. Don't tell me you won't charge me for something then do it. I could probably take you to small claims just because the guy admitted that it showed it had never been connected but like I said takes too much of my time. Lord bless the people who wake up and have no problem working for this scummy company and the people who thought of this "amazing idea" to steal from people and no one be able to do anything. Hopefully you will be taught a lesson one day.

I put $30.00 in my account since these scammers were going to save me so much money... How about after ONE CALL, I no longer had any money in my account! I call them and my phone call was $19.95 plus $7.95 deposit fee, etc. I closed the account immediately. EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW!!! THESE PEOPLE ARE GOVERNED UNDER THE FCC! The FCC place a cap on what they can charge per minute on inmate calls, so they make up all these ** fees, etc. And steal your money that way. One person contacting the FCC to file a complaint will NOT do anything.
EVERYONE THAT HAS WRITTEN A REVIEW SHOULD CONTACT THE FCC AND FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT! One supervisor told me that this info (charges) are in their terms and agreement. No they are not!! Everyone please contact the FCC please! These people should be the ones in prison/jail talking on their phones, at their rates! Stand up for your rights! FCC 1-888-225-5322. But this is not why I'm writing this. The account balance I setup with was $20.00, global transaction fee of $9.75, which I had $10.25 to get the information I needed from my son. Now it took only two calls so I had about a $4.00 credit coming back. Now it doesn't work that way. They want to charge $5.00 to refund your money. That is highway robbery and I can't believe they are getting away with charging these fees. Also, I believe that as consumers we should have the right to select better options than go through one company. Old schools work better. Someone calling you collect, you accept the call.

When I called the GTE* Customer Service number on my bank statement, I had to listen to ad after ad. After 11 ads I pressed "0" for an operator/live person and got hung up on. "0" wasn't an option that was offered, but neither was an option to do anything except listen to ads or to buy from them.

My son is in jail in Lebanon TN Wilson County jail for a month. Collect calls from the facility cost $1.80 for 15 minutes with a #13.75 or $19.75 transaction fees depending on time of day or transaction fee goes up with each call. I researched and discovered that the FCC have put a cap or 11 cents per minute on call from inmates. Obviously Global Tel get around this cap by charging these ridiculous transaction fees. I understand people have to have consequences for their behavior. But these charges are gouging families already in financial distress. Global Tel executives should be the ones locked up. Why are they allowed circumvent the FCC rules?

My son is incarcerated at TGK Correctional Facility. He attempted to call me for the first time. The automated system instructed me to pay $1 and press the number 5. After pressing number 5 the system tells you the charge is $5 with a complete charge of $7.95. This happened twice. The calls did not connect to me. The recording says this inmate cannot accept collect calls. My son called again and the same thing happened again. I called Global Tel Link and explained what happened to one of the representatives and asked him not to charged my credit card because I did not talk to my son. He insisted on trying to charge me anyway. I told him that was not right and I was just giving away money for nothing. He just kept asking me is, "there was anything else I can do for you ma'am?" with a very snobbish attitude. He still didn't tell me whether or not he removed the charges from my credit card.
He said the reason the card didn't go through is because I didn't pay $50. That's a total rip off. I decided to call back later to see if the charges was removed from my card. I spoke to Mario and tried to ask him had the charges been removed. He asked me what was the telephone number I was calling from. I told him the number. He asked me was the telephone number in somebody else's name. I told him it was in my daughter name. He asked where were she? I told him she wasn't at home. This is the same number we all live at. He said he couldn't give me any information unless my daughter authorize them to do so. I said what the telephone has to do with it and we both live at the same address. Not only that I could have used any phone to set up an account. I told him I was using my credit card not hers and I wanted to know if the charges was removed from my card.
These people has a very crooked problem going on and you can tell by the way that they talk. They are some stone crooks and I hope that someone can help me resolve the problem that I have with them. I asked to speak with a supervisor. It took her the longest to answer the phone because he had explained to her what to say to make his story stick. I asked her, she said her name was Amy ID#**. What did the phone have to do with me asking did they removed the charges from my account. She couldn't explain. I knew she couldn't because he and she had already plotted on what to say. Naturally, they are going to cover for one another and I know all about this. Try calling them and you can detect for yourself that these people are playing a crooked game and they got their automated system playing a crooked game for them. $50 for an inmate to make a local call to his family?
We all know better than that. They want to see how much money they can trick out of people. They need to try something else. Because this is not working right. To be honest I don't believe people know the meaning of right anymore. They need help. They try to cover their dirt by being snobbish with people. I noticed all of them are the same way. The supervisor said to me "wait until your daughter gets home and then give us a call. We will be open until 7:00 pm." It has become a real big problem trying to deal with people and their wrong doings. And their attitudes are getting stronger and stronger. This is the reason why I turned to you for help. Because just me alone will not get the job done. Thank you and I really appreciate your support. My best regard reaches out to you.

I know for a fact I didn't drop the call nor did the originator of the call drop the call, maybe a poor GTL telephone system dropped the call.
If you attempt to add credit card information while accepting a call, the call goes silent and no other communication is provided. Numerous phone system problems, into the customer call center attempting to escalate either refund concerns, poor customer service concerns, poor management concerns, unresolved ed technical issues, talking to customer service agents (?) in other countries (outsourced). They told me there was nothing they could do since the calls are more than 5 mins, which they don't credit back. My calls are only dropping in this instance and it's consistent. I've filed a ripoff report and saw that I was not the only one having this 8 min problem, yet they can not find any issues on their end. That just doesn't make sense to me.
I know it's not my phone service (T-Mobile) because my calls never drop when I'm talking with anyone else. I live in Maricopa county in AZ and each of my calls are $2.65 + tax $0.30. More than half of my calls get dropped at 8 mins and a full call should be 15 mins. It's hard to not assume that my calls are being dropped purposefully so that he's forced to call back and continue our conversation. This is the only phone service Maricopa county jails use, which is bull. I need to be able to stay in contact with my loved one to discuss his cases and what actions to take next. Then when he calls back they deducted monies for a 20-minute call when we spoke for 30 seconds.
It seems every Saturday he tries to call home. My house phone & cell never ring & the recording from GTL says the call was denied. WTF if the call isn't going through why say it's denied. I tried the web address first. I set up the account info only to have it say there's an error & I cannot set this up at this time. I then made the unfortunate choice to call the 800 #. Press 1 to set up a new account or to add funds to existing account ok 1 it is. Recorded voice plays back my phone number--ok so far--please enter your credit card #--ummm I don't have an account set up yet why do you need my credit card already? I hit the * button finally was transferred to a "customer service" rep who I could hardly understand. Explained to her I was trying to set up an account but their website has an error & when I called it just asked for my card info.
"Oh ok I can get an account set up for you now" (I think that's pretty much what she said but again very hard to understand her between just bored mush mouth talk & poor phone line quality). She asked for all my info-ok great we're getting somewhere now. Then comes mumble mumble $5.00 mumble mumble. What is the card number & how much. Whoa what's that about $5? In order to refund any leftover balance there is a $5 "processing fee" WTH? That sounds a bit scammy but ok they kinda have you stuck right now so ok whatever.
Then she comes up with the $9+ to even put $ on the account. Whoa-I asked her what the call rate is. Her response was just to reread her script on paying in $25 increments. No no stop reading the script listen to my question. Final answer was they won't know until a call goes thru. Well there was a call, oh our system doesn't update for 24hrs. Which leads me to ask how long does it take for my payment to post.
Evidentially I asked one too many questions. I got a "are you going to make a payment?" Sorry I have questions & trying to figure out best options. Now she has become extremely rude so I asked if there is someone else to talk to. Sure hang up & call back. Really? Sadly that's exactly what I did. Same situation only this time a guy answered & said his name was Chad mumble mumble--I'm sorry Chad? No Adam??? Very staticky & just a bad call so I asked him if this is their usual quality? His answer--what is the name on the account? WTH? No excuse me I asked a question. What do you want me to say we're communicating now are you going to make a payment or what? Really that's your customer service? Especially for a new account? No thanks have no interest in dealing with your company.
After reading the other reviews I'm so glad I didn't give them my card info. I guess it will be just snail mail for us right now. Instead of complaining to the FCC & whatnot, why not the jails/county boards that approved the low bid companies. Why are they not supporting a United States company? Just because a family member/friend made a poor choice doesn't mean we're less important or worthy of decent rates/phone calls. The website for the jail says they encourage contact with family/friends during their incarceration--not by using this company. How very sad.

I have been reading all the negative reviews for GTL and I am completely surprised at all the negative reviews it has gotten throughout the year. The first time I used GTL was about 5 years ago when a friend of mine was incarcerated in Corcoran Prison in California. I used the service that allowed me to accept calls on my cellular phone, but the fees were added to my Service Provider billing statement. It was only for a few calls though, but I did not have any problems setting the service up, nor problems with dropped calls. This time though, I have been using GTL's Prepaid Phone services since October 2014 and have not experienced any problems when I used it for my son's calls from the county jail. Zero unfortunate dropped calls, no billing issues, and no difficulty funding the account with my debit bank card. I have, also, used GTL to fund my son's Trust Account, now that he is prison and still no issues.
Although, the prison my son went to uses a different company, I am still using GTL's Prepaid Phone services for my boyfriend who is in the county jail. The only issues we have encountered were static in the phone lines. Because he had a hard time hearing me, I simply yelled and repeated for him to push the handset cord into the handset, then our calls would be fine. Again as before, no billing issues and zero difficulty funding the account. As far as the topic of transferring funds from one phone number to another, I called customer service to have them transfer funds from my old number to my new phone number (both were cellular phones) and the funds were transferred within 24 hours without hassle.
I live in Mesa, AZ and the county jail is in Phoenix so my calls are $2.95 total each call and each time I fund the account, $7.95 is deducted from my balance for the service fee. My parents also used GTL and did not have any issues either. I made sure I read all of the 'HELP' information that is provided on the website prior to creating an account, so I would know what I was getting myself into and when a call comes through, I was given the option to find out the cost of the call prior to accepting it. But as a mother of a 15-year-old son who was facing several years adult prison time, I was eager to set the account up so I could speak to him.
Since I did not have any issues with billing, funding, or dropped calls, I continued to use GTL's services. It makes no sense whatsoever to continue to use something if I was having many issues continually and/or if my money was disappearing when I funded my account. I am pretty sure my loved ones would not want me wasting so much money on something that was not working at all or ripping me off. And during the times that my finances did not allow for the phone calls, I would let my loved ones know during the call that would exhaust the remaining funds.
The ONLY con to using GTL's Prepaid Phone services is that I cannot fund the account less than $25.00 each time. Again, if my finances do not allow for me to use $25.00, I let my loved ones know and wait until I have the extra money. I included a Print Screen of my account to shows I actually use GTL's services (please excuse the blotched out phone number, but safety first!).

Global Tel Link is prepaid phone minutes for inmate calls. For every $25 dollars you add to your account the company deducts $6.95 which leaves you with a balance of $18.05 and the area you call from will determine the amount of phone time you get. My phone number is out of the area so for $18.05 I get 2 phone calls. When you go to the website there are no price breakdowns. So you don't really know how much you're being charged per minute. I had a balance left on an old phone number that I wanted transferred to my new number. For the transfer GTL wanted to charge me an additional $5.00 on top of all the $6.95 charges they've already charged me. The balance I wanted transferred was $3.61 which means after the transfer fee I end up owing them!
How is this company allowed to charge all these fees without letting the consumer know what they are paying for. They also tell you they'll send you a text when funds in your account are low. I got the text 2 days after my balance was at 0. A PRICE CHART or something that lets you know how much you're paying per call would be nice.

I have read so many complaints on the internet (this site and others) about this company and their underhanded business practices. I fought them for a long time and they finally released the block on my phone after I spent a couple of weeks fighting with them and screaming to whomever would listen. I filed a complaint with the FCC, I filed a complaint with the State Telecommunications authorities. I filed a complaint or two with the Better Business Bureau. I e-mailed congressmen/women and senators. I posted unhappy reviews of this company. And, when that didn't work, I started all over again making the rounds. I think the only reason they released the block on my phone was because they saw I was NOT going away, and I even told them I was NOT going away. I told them I would keep screaming until something was done or SOMEONE listened to me.
Even though I was able to get the block off of my home telephone (which they have absolutely NO right to interfere with; I had collect call service billed to my home phone for more than 14 years with no problem until they just decided to take it away and block access from my home phone); even though I got my access back I am still HOPPING MAD at how they treat people (families who find themselves in unfortunate situations). And I am still HOPPING MAD about how they GET AWAY scot-free with it. I agree wholeheartedly with what some of you have said about until people/family members band together and fight this, complaining loud enough and hard enough to their local politicians and the FCC and their state utility commission these crooks are going to get away with what they are doing. They count on it being TOO MUCH TROUBLE for the family members.
Pick up your phones, contact your congressmen/women and senators, file complaints, BAND TOGETHER and get on your computer and fight them!! There is strength in numbers. I recently was contacted and told that there were over 2200 viewings of my initial complaint posting here on this site. Of that 2200, 51 of you took the time to say you found my review helpful. If enough of you stand together (and I would be willing to stand with you), we could fight this company and maybe bring some media attention to the fray. Fifty-one might not sound like a lot, but it sure is better than ONE or TWO.
Even if we are spread far apart, our voices can be heard. That's 51 people all screaming about GTL. Wherever there are some of us together in an area, maybe we could boycott GTL and get a media attention spotlight on this issue, or band together and start a "Go Fund Me" to legally fight GTL. There's lots and lots of connections on Facebook and other social media. There is also power to be found on the internet... power to fight unscrupulous companies. We will NEVER get anywhere by just posting one or two complaints and then giving up. That's what they are counting on.

No matter what you enter including the numerals instructed to enter the response is that is an invalid entry and the call is ended. Numerous requests send via email to request help and refund also remain unanswered. Each call is six dollars regardless of call length. On more than one occasion I have been disconnected 3 times...on fourth call finally able to talk the full fifteen minutes. Call ultimately cost 24 dollars by then.

I wish I could give this company 0 stars. They are such a rip off. I have been charged fees for opening the account, adding money in the account, everything you can think of they charged you. I would put $50 in and after everything they took out I would only have enough for 1 call. Finally my uncle's facility changed companies for phone services, so I called GTL and asked them for a refund of what the funds I had left over. Mind you, I called back in February and I talked with a very rude customer service rep. After about 30 minutes of going back and forth she said she would issue me a refund, send to my new address and it could take 5-7 weeks for me to receive a check. Fine I said, I'll wait.
Well time went by and I forgot all about the check until today, 12 weeks later. I still have not received anything, so I call and spoke with another customer service rep who said "oh you have to mail in your request and it can take up to 3 months for you to get your money. On top of that we are charging you $5 to ask for your money back." WHAT!!!! This is absurd! I was like you are penalizing me for wanting my money back and I yelled, not upset at him but upset that they have the audacity to charge me fees left and right and then charge me for wanting my money back.
I filed a better business bureau complaint, because I refuse to pay them anymore. I checked their website and in the section where it talks about how to close your account it never says there is a fee. If I was told this information 12 weeks ago I would have taken the necessary actions then instead of now fighting to get my refund and having to go through other channels to get the money I am owed.

I had to wait two weeks for it to clear off and in the meantime was having to drive 15 miles one way to put cash on the phone so he could call. Numerous times it has never rang on my end though he called over and over again. One would think that if they charge you $4.95 per deposit that they could get it right. On top of that some credit cards work and others don't at all. Hell even cash doesn't work sometimes.
Plenty of times my husband had called from someone else phone card pissed off because he thought I was rejecting his calls when in reality it was this ** ass company for allowing them to go through. My husband is housed in Monroe, WA. WA is a money hungry state. The state of Washington acts as though they don't have millions of people paying taxes to service this state. Instead of acting like human beings they go right to prison and rip the clothes right off inmates who want to talk to their loved ones! Some of these guys are hard up for a phone call and they can't make one. To add money to a inmate phone account it cost $5.95 every time you put money on! Calls are $3.21 per 20 minute call. Let's do the math here! Average household rent in Washington State is $1500 for a two bedroom! Most say the average wage is $50,000, but we are going to take that lower for the ones who take jobs because frankly we need to feed our children! So let's say $25,000 a year for the average low income family! So $1500 a month for rent for 12 months is $18,000 a year, okay that's not so bad I still got some money left after each pay check to put money on my loved ones phone.
Now most people are in prison for horrific crimes, but the others are in for petty crimes, cause they were either trying to feed their families or themselves! Every week you want to put $100 on the phone so after the $5.95 charge you have $94.05 let on the phone. With the rate being $3.21 for 20 whole glorious minutes you get, that's about 29 phone calls. That sounds like a lot... Think again! About 40% of those calls will be dropped cause they think there is a three way call when you're really just standing in a bus stop in the rain and your cell is picking up the back ground noise. You want to talk to each other so of course he calls back. You are his only touch with the outside. Yeah he made a mistake and got himself in there, but he was just trying to feed his family, now he is having his basic human rights to make a simple phone call to his family stripped away.
For a week you average about 20 calls so that's 2 to 3 calls a day. That doesn't sound so bad, but what if something happens and you need to talk more on one day. I don't have the extra money to put money on the phone. I got bills, my kids need clothes, I am trying to save up for a car cause the bus makes me late for work every morning.... I just want to talk to my husband and I can't cause I don't have the money. He can't talk to me cause he can't provide for us behind bars. What am I to do now? So you think let's be smart let's just add money to my personal phone yeah it cost a dollar more to add money but calls are just $2.80 for yet another 20 minute! We think we are getting over. Wrong they charge you $0.43 tax per call you make... LOL are you kidding me that makes the $3.23 per call OMG that's the dumbest thing I ever seen in my life and I have seen some pretty dumb stuff.
I can't afford these prices I can't afford to make a way for my children and talk to my loving husband. Why should I have to make a choice? Why is the state pretty much using these guys for everything they think they are worth... Why must those who just want to survive suffer at the hands of the money hungry? You crush us and make us weak so we will leave them there to rot don't you? So they have no one they will continue to offend and violate and end up right back in your system. So you can starve them with food not even fit for rodents and throw them in the hole for voicing their opinions about treatment. These men and women need to feel some kind of human interaction. You want to release some of these people back into society and most of them have never had any outside contact. There is violence inside the prison. Prisoners get into fights cause they are stressed they can't talk to their loved ones.
Imagine if your child was in the hospital and you were in prison, you would want to call every 5 minutes to make sure your child is alright and when you can't you become scared, and you can't think straight, and any little thing could set you off. It's like being buried... even though they committed the crime to have themselves locked away they are still humans who have feelings. They are not dogs you can lock in a cage and hope they will become tame. They are people like you or me, they just want to know they can have something they can always depend on, and most of the time it's just a friendly voice! Thank you and please make a change!

GTL will not allow me to use this access number, as it is much cheaper to connect via this number. In trying to access my account they have repeatedly block this number, and have tried to prompt me to provide my personal information (credit/debit card) to their customer service representative.
In my opinion this is not a fair business practice as GTL should not have a monopoly on this market, but should allow clients to make a better choice with regard to providers. If on the other hand this action or business practice is approved in New York State and they are recognized as the sole provider, then it should be clarified in their advertisements/brochures.

After reading a surmountable number of complaints regarding the same issue, I have to wonder if Consumer Affairs or any other governmental agency has the power or cares to investigate and bring this matter to a halt. The penal system appears to be established to also punish (financially) those family members, friends, and others that have not committed any crimes and are merely attempting to encourage and/or support inmates.
I have paid well over $300 to this institution in order to obtain information about my son's court appearances and any information that he can provide in a small amount of time. The fees charged and the issues regarding dropped calls, fees for refunds, if rendered, should be unlawful. If I have to write my Congressman and/or the President of the United States, please advise. Or better yet, this appears to be an excellent storyline for 60 Minutes and the local media to cover. I'm trusting the citizens reporting the plethora of complaints I've read and continue to read will be addressed in a manner that is positive and creating resolution. The funds I have paid attempting to speak with my son as well as place money on his commissary account could pay for college tuition for a semester. Obviously the citizens complaining do not have the financial means to loose finance this company's behavior... fraud, waste and abuse.
I just set up an online account for what I thought would be $29.95 for one month, with $9.95 in fees. Since it is urgent that I speak with my son immediately regarding an illness, I placed another $25 through my bank card via the phone... my son and I still cannot connect. This is fraudulent. Therefore, I, too, will be writing numerous parties to bring this issue to light on behalf of those who don't have a voice or go unheard. And to add, I'm still unable to connect with my son.

Well I'm on temporary assignment here in Tucson, Arizona from San Diego, California. I called the number on pamphlet and when I gave them my SD phone number was giving a rate of .22c a minute versus a flat price of $2.25 if I had a local number. I asked about other, or miscellaneous associated fees, peek on or off hours for a discount. I was specifically told those are the only two numbers I would be working with.
Several hours after making a 25.00 deposit I check my balance and had a slim balance of 15.05. I contacted the company and was told that is what it cost to 'deposit money'. The story is the same as the rest of you. I will follow up with progress. To my advantage is several years in the Federal system for counterfeit and passport fraud. I understand the phone systems' leverage on both the inmate and receiver of their calls. 12/25/14 Merry Christmas to me. I was able to speak to my incarcerated loved one for 27 min when all funds were depleted from my landline account set up with Global Tel Link. The minimum amount of money you can place on the account to speak to the person incarcerated is $25-GTL takes $6 for admin. Fees. Still that leaves $19 to talk. One phone call placed to me should not cost $19 when the prison is 45 min from my house within the same state (NJ). I used to be able to get at least 4 calls from the $25 I put on the acct. but all of a sudden when I put $25 in the acct. we only spoke once and the funds are depleted. This happened twice. I paid $50 for those 2 calls. When I called GTL they said I am not the acct holder and the name on acct. is someone else so they will not help me. Funny b/c that telephone # has been mine for 17 years. GTL runs the show for the prison phones, there is nothing that they will do to correct their mistakes. They can scam us b/c there is no one to compete with them or threaten their business.

The representative said that it's nothing we can do for you because it's not a landline. So I said that is ludicrous and is this one of your legal scams not to reimburse people after you guys disconnect my calls and plus there are other inmate families complaining too. It's sad that they want to make people keep spending their money faster so they disconnect your call and interrupt and say no three way call when there's no three way call happening.

My friend is incarcerated and I add money to my account once a month to speak to him. We speak at least twice a day and it used to be ok-affordable but it's still pricey. I understand that there are other people who pay a bigger ridiculous bill just for a 20 minute call, but this is why I am here and upset. I am upset for those unfortunate people and people like me who don't have a steady job, living in NYC, going to college and just want to speak to a close friend daily.
GTL of course is never hesitant to instantly rob the $8 fee from you. Every time I put in $50, it turns into $42 for calls. Because my friend was in the box for a very long time, we weren't able to speak for some months and when we did, I realize that money was draining from my account. I recall clearly paying $1.12 per call mid-2014 and now it has jumped to $1.69 without any notice (based on my knowledge). If people do not think that 57 cents is a lot, think about how much you pay now compared to before. Now you pay almost $3.40 for two calls, compared to $2.24 before.
I have never met a company this much of a rip-off EVER. And it's sad because it's my only option and of course they take advantage of us people who just want to speak to close friends and family. Okay yeah, I get it, if our loved ones and friends weren't in prison, we wouldn't have to pay. But that's a thought for an alternative universe.. NOT HERE. To speak to your loved one once a day (30 minute) for an entire month, you'd have to pay $60 (NYC to Mid-State). At the same time, they also tell you that you cannot and should not use a cellphone. Who the heck is home all day or use a landline? I have a landline but I am not always home. I go to work sometimes, I go to college, I run errands constantly. If it were up to the landline, my friend and I would probably talk only once a week (during the weekends). Someone really needs to rally up against this service.

My son has been calling my mom since his incarceration which was over 2 years ago. She has a landline, so he just calls collect. Yesterday my son tried to call and upon my mom answering, there was an immediate message that she would need to open an account to be able to accept the call. Fuming I called Global's idiotic half-breed, incompetent customer service and the gal explained that they have always done things the same, that regardless of a landline or not, my mom would have to set up an account and prepay for minutes in order to speak with my son. When I stated that we've NEVER had to do this before, she said, "Well she's lucky then, after a short time, they, (Global), does require an account if your son has called her, even for landline." WTF????
I told her that I wasn't angry with her, but that she works for a really horrible company and that if I were her, I'd look for a different job. I also told her, "You know that the majority of us are not wealthy folks and that the phone calls mean everything to both the inmate and the family members." Her reply back was, "Oh you don't have to worry, I work just fine here"! I couldn't handle it and knew that if I stayed on the line, I would have a few expletives and of course that never solves anything! Instead, I hung up and then proceeded to scream! I HATE THESE PEOPLE! I cannot believe this, my mom called her phone service and they said my son should be able to call collect without any issues, so the problem is with Global Tel*link.
I do have a cell, so unfortunately I have to deal with these people from time to time. It's pretty difficult because their customer service is no where to be found, their competency, well what can we say, I really have a strong suspicion that they make things up as they go along. I don't trust any of the people I have spoken to and have called much more lately as it does seem like I am paying twice as much a month then even last year. When I ask if they've increased their fees, they always say the same exact number, $2.49 per minute and they still state that their transaction and taxes are the same..... I DO NOT TRUST ANY OF THESE PEOPLE. I will be placing a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, but I ask that everyone who reads, this will also consider making their own complaints known as this is the only way we can get results. Why, in this technologically advanced time, is it so horribly difficult to have a solid and clear connection... FROM A LANDLINE. A landline is the most basic type of phone connection and yet this company cannot seem to simply provide a solid and clear connection. Generally when a company charges premium rates, the service reflects the obnoxiously high fees. Global Tel*Link has to be one of the biggest jokes that ever considered themselves an actual business. Either have the service reflect the fees or have the fees reflect the service. This is not a hard concept to grasp.

Added $30 to my phone number 18 days ago. The $7.95 fee (! ) was taken out right away. But when the inmate tried to make a call, no funds were available. I called the number that is listed on their website for the website support, but was told that the phone support does not have any means to communicate with the website support. The only way to contact the website support is through email. I had tried that a long time ago (6+ months), but never got a response. Tried it again about 2 weeks ago and didn't get a response either. When asking the people on the phone about this I was told, "Sorry, but that's the way it is", meaning that I was out of luck.
After a third attempt to contact the web support, I finally got a reply telling me that the funds were posted incorrectly and that they would fix it within 3-5 business days. Today is day 4 and I got a message from support saying that everything is fixed, but on my account, it still says "Funds available for calls: $0.00." I also tried to reset my password, but my email address apparently is in their system, but I do not remember the user name nor the password. So the only way to get help with this is - you guessed it - the web support via email (which, btw, will happily reply "within 3 business days"). I have very much had it with this company. But I guess that's just par for the course. Why try to provide a good service when you have a monopoly?

Too often while talking on the call that has come through on Global Tel Link the phone will just disconnect, leaving the person to have to call back and start over paying the initial connect fee of over 21/2 dollars. The other day our phone call was disconnected for what I heard the was supposedly a 3 way call which was totally false. And our phone call was disconnected. And what's worse if I'm not mistaking, you cannot receive another phone call for about 24 hours. It's utterly ridiculous!!!! I realize that the people who are in these facilities have broken the law to some degree some way worse than others. However their family including children, parents, spouses and friends, mentors and alike are not the law breakers. Yet it is these individuals that are being sapped of their money by these greedy opportunist who are allowed to do it because the jails and the Government has no empathy, or respect for anyone. It's as if they blame the family members and friends for having a person who has broken the law related to them.
Everyone in this world, I don't care who you are, has broken the law at some point and time and if not man's law then definitely God's law without a doubt which is much worst. But good isn't going to take advantage of innocent individuals because he feels as if they are not worthy of proper treatment because of who they know and are related to. Just remember EVERY DOG WILL HAVE HIS DAY SOMEHOW. So for those who have no conscience when it comes to robbing people (which the last time I checked was against the law), just remember what goes around comes around and you might be robbed of something too like your health, your job, your family, money and etc. However I don't expect my complaint to all of a sudden create a conscience in anyone, but it would be nice if it gets someone to think twice about abusing what is obviously a needed service. Thank you.

I have read all the complaints on GTL. There is one simple resolution. Instead of using prepaid account, simply send the inmate the money and they can put the money on the phone from their end. It also eliminates the service fee GTL charges. This can be done anywhere in the country. I receive calls from a facility in NJ. The charge is 15 cents per minute for a 15-minute call, which with tax comes to 2.59 per call. I had 2.21 left on account and when someone called it said insufficient funds. The 2.21 I had should have at least been sufficient for a 10-minute call plus tax. GTL claims I needed a balance of 2.59 in order to receive a call. They are a ripoff!!! SEND THE INMATE THE MONEY!!

I used to be able to have long distance charges billed by ILD Teleservices (on behalf of Global Tel Link). But now, without my permission or my request for a change, they have CHANGED my home phone service so that I can no longer receive collect phone calls from my cousin and have them billed to my home phone. AT&T has verified to me there is NO BLOCK on their end, I should be able to receive collect phone calls. The BLOCK is being put on the other end at the prison facility.
GTL Global Tel Link wants me and other family members to PREPAY all of the time in increments of at least $25 or $50 and the money just VANISHES into thin air with them having NO ACCOUNTABILITY as to where the money is going and what is being provided for that money. And they have made themselves the ONLY game in town. They have a monopoly on the prison phone service. If I want to talk to my family member, I MUST go through Global Tel Link. But it wasn't always that way.
For about 14 years prior to them PUTTING A STOP to me being able to receive collect phone calls from my cousin on my own home phone I was able to get collect phone calls and would have the charges on my home phone bill, which I would promptly pay. They are ripping off family members of people in prison, and neither party, the family or the prisoner, can do ANYTHING about it. They are all at the MERCY of Global Tel Link who has NO MERCY. They are GREEDY! They just take my money and run. Global Tel Link has never provided me a statement outlining charges for any of the pre-paid phone services.
I went online and purchased $50.00 worth of minutes for my cousin to use (he is in prison). He made two to three phone calls and the $50 was GONE!! And, when I complained to Global Tel Link they said I had to REQUEST an invoice. I will go and request an invoice from them (but I should NOT have to do that - they should automatically provide some kind of invoice showing the charges). I just do NOT see HOW they can get away with this practice of taking money from consumers and having absolutely NO accountability for their actions and preventing the consumers from going elsewhere for service. That would be like having an attorney represent you and he takes your whole retainer but does NOT have to explain where it's going or provide an invoice - nothing written. They just say they are providing a service to you. Oh, and they stipulate that you can NOT get that service from anyone else but them.

I have gone back reading many of your complaints and have had many of the bad experiences that many of you have had with GTL. First, since the ruling last fall that prison phone companies have to keep their rates within reason; GTL has wised up and not been so abusive with their practices. If you do have a problem with them; however, my advice is to file an FCC complaint to start. Also, in addition I recommend following up with the Office of Consumer of Government Affairs in Washington, and your states attorney generals' office. Sometimes it may take a few weeks; but GTL's corporate offices will respond to it. Second, one thing that has greatly changed is now they can't block if you have a local number to the facility and they no longer require you to send them proof of residency. Someone on this page had said about GTL accounts in the the state of Maryland. I, too have experienced this because I talk to someone at MCTC in Hagerstown and think it is ridiculous that they want 15 dollars of your hard earned money upfront, but I do like that the calls are only 51 cents a piece once you get past establishing an account. So bottom line is that GTL is like any of the other companies; they have their good point and their bad points.

He tried to call me today, and I realized there was a block placed on the phone. I called Cox, and was informed that it was nothing on their end. I called GTL, and they informed me that I had to set up a prepay account on the land line!!!
It didn't take me long to realize why, it's about cutting out the phone companies and dictating where the bulk of the money goes. This company doesn't give the customer the opportunity to make an informed decision, by giving us a heads up, by way of transparency. Why keep it hidden that there is no distinction between cell phone and landline. So now, I have paid to have a land line installed, will be responsible for paying a monthly bill, but other than that it is utterly useless. To purposely give the consumer too little information is just as bad as giving the consumer untrue or inaccurate information, as it is misleading and lacks integrity. The customer rep I spoke to informed me that GTL services over 1000 facilities, so was her way of telling me that they have a monopoly, and are at liberty to do what they want to do? If that is true, it's sad indeed.

Calls are constantly dropped and when you call to get a refund they say that they are not responsible if a mobile phone is what's used to accept calls but not to mention the next call you can talk the whole 15 min. Then inmates not are able to purchase their own time with state issued card and when the call is dropped on their end they can't get the money back. It's businesses like this that rip off loved ones of those incarcerated.

Global Tel Link is the communications provider for inmate payphone calls from multiple institutions including the Pinellas County Jail. Evidently this company has been awarded the contract to gouge citizens. They charge exorbitant fees for local phone calls from inmates to their loved ones, which are prepaid by the innocent recipients of the calls who simply want to keep in touch. The charge for prepaying any amount on the account is 19.67% per deposit, whatever the amount. Personally I have been dealing with them for 2 months and have deposited over $200 in the account for calls from the Pinellas County Jail to my home in Pinellas Park, a distance of less than 6 miles. So in essence, I am paying more per month for less than a daily 10-15 minute phone call from an analogue pay phone than I would pay for a single line monthly smart phone with a data plan.
Multiple times the call won't go through, even with plenty of funds in the account, frustrating both the caller and the receiver. A call to any of the Customer Service Numbers will get you nowhere other than a pre-scripted response from someone who couldn't care less, possibly in and out of country, outsourced call center. A simple web search of Global Tel Link complaints will tell the same story of the misery imposed by this company on people just trying to provide a word of hope and direction to some incarcerated loved one, over and over again. So who exactly is benefiting from this lucrative service contract??

After several months of trying to get service straightened out, what with their demands of providing them with proof that I own my own phone line, and having to verify my phone numbers, as well as problems documented by others here, our relative said it was easier for him to deposit the funds from his commissary account. I'm not sure how he figured this out, but we stopped having difficulty. We transfer his funds to his commissary account and then he funds the phone calls from there. He can then call us on numbers that don't need prior approval. Secondarily, if there is a way to get yourself a number local to the facility, you will save a wad of money. We have Ooma VOIP service, and Ooma allows you to have more than one phone number, which you can choose from any area code in the country. So of course, we obtained a number with an area code local to him. This has saved us a lot of grief from this grifting company! Tom from Deep Thoughtlessness, CA, your comment was uncalled for and nasty.

The company GTL owns DSI and other companies. They change the name so there's no monopoly. People, you just need to stop using the services. There's a fee when adding money to your account and there's a refund fee (??) to get your money back. YOU just need to stop using the service. Tell your family member to stop getting into trouble? Don't use the service. It's that simple....

This company SUCKS!! They already deduct a $8 fee EACH time you add money to your account then when you finally do talk to your loved one the calls are dropped OR the recording says you've attempted to make a 3 way call and terminate your call!! When asked to speak with a supervisor, you get a non professional lady who has no remorse or sympathy and basically says it's because you're calling from a cell phone. It's 2014, who really conducts their everyday business on a land line these days?? Does anyone know how to report them Or contact the BBB because this is straight FRAUD!!! And clearly, by all the reviews they are getting away with it on a daily basis!! This is the only way I can speak to my fiance and feel that this is a rip off!! They're robbing ME with no gun!!! Heeelp??
