I ordered per Fingerhut guidelines in order to receive before Christmas. It took more than three days for them to process and send the order to their shipper. I was frantic that it would not arrive in time. To my delight and surprise the shipment showed up at my door on Dec 23, 2103. To my disappointment when I opened the box I received and incorrect item. I was suppose to receive a Crossman Air Rifle and Pistol. I received a Paper Shredder. Even the Shredder box has the correct Crossman Sticker on the box. Now I have no gift to give to my 16 year old. Imagine the disappointment I have and what I have to explain to my son. I immediately called Fingerhut customer service. I got run around after run around. The item I ordered is out of stock till January 27, 2014. They would not exchange the item for equal or greater value (Guaranteed Shipping delivery by Christmas). They wanted to charge my account, then credit it after they got back the incorrect item, thus taking me over my credit limit. Incompetence by their customer service department and not taking care of the customer to their full potential is undeniably counter productive to good business practice. I will never order anything from Fingerhut again. I hope no one else will either.

I carried the insurance with Fingerhut and when I was paralyzed they initially covered my claim. Then they changed credit card companies and quit paying. They said they never received the paperwork but they had to have received it to pay any claim. Never buy from this company and expect quality customer experiences.

I ordered for the time through this company and when products were delivered it took me a few days to open and I was missing an item. I called 2 times and got hung up on which this took 2.5 hours. On 3rd call and a wait time of 35 minutes, I got Nicole who assured me she would help me with my situation. After 25 minutes on the phone with her, she was going to replace item and proceeded to put me on hold. After being on hold for just under 5 minutes, call was disconnected. I called back and was on hold for about 50 minutes when I decided to email company. My response from company was that it was delivered and I should check the surrounding areas, talk to landlord and check with neighbors. Nothing on the call with Nicole.
The 12 foot Blow up Santa I ordered worked for 2 days and when I called was on hold just under an hour so I emailed for help on a return. as I only had for a week. I sent an email as I cannot get through on phone on 12/13/2013, got standard reply ""Thank you for your question! Your question number is # **. Your question is important! We'll work hard to answer it within 24 hours. Thanks for your patience and being a Fingerhut customer." Still no response. I will keep trying as that is all I can do.

On 11.29.2013 I ordered an LG Neon II Unlocked GSM Cell Phone in Orange/Gray, I received a Red/Silver on 11.28.13, this was to be a birthday present for Dec. 7th. When I got the incorrect phone, I IMMEDIATELY reordered the Orange and Gray on 11.29.13, as to assure a timely delivery of the second phone. I then returned the incorrect phone the following day, for credit. As stated earlier, This was to be a birthday present for my Mom on Dec. 7th. I got the replacement phone in a timely manner, yet when I opened it, IT WAS THE INCORRECT COLOR PHONE for the SECOND TIME, and getting the incorrect phone 2 days before a 70th Birthday, the return option, WAS NOT AN OPTION.
I had called customer service line the day the 2nd phone was received, and was on hold for ONE HOUR and FIFTY SEVEN Min., then disconnected at 9pm EST. At the same time I was on the site waiting for a chat to appear, which it did TWICE, I stated that I had an order problem, and when I started to put in the order #, and relevant information, the agent(s) disconnected me, basically not enabling me to make an inquiry as to what I could do to get a replacement phone in an expedited manner, or just to give me some options to problem (I personally think this item was nothing more than a bait and switch). At the same time I had ordered a pair of Rocawear Mens Cargo Pant, Green, Size 36, and received BLACK SIZE 38.
I shop quite frequently with Fingerhut and am VERY disappointed at the service that was not provided to rectify something that should never have happened. I will be paying my balance by the end of January 2014, and will no longer be patronizing Fingerhut. As I have a number of friends, acquaintances, and family members that also shop this site, I have let it be known, the complete lack of customer service as well as lack of integrity that your company has displayed.

I decided I would try to open an account with Fingerhut because I have horrible credit and wanted shoes and a Monster High 2 pack of dolls. Well, they said I needed to place a $30 down payment and when I did, it kept saying error try again, I tried a few more times (mind you, I did this at 5:04 pm). Well, they charged my bank account the $30 three times! Then when I tried to call customer service, I was on hold being transferred around for almost 2 hours and then when I did finally talk to the right person (who was nice), they said it couldn't be reversed because it was after 5pm. lol. I didn't even place the order till after 5 pm! They said I had to dispute it with my bank (which my bank is awesome so that part was easy).
It took almost a month for them to finally reverse it on my account after my claim with the bank. also, the Monster High pack hasn't been in stock (was back ordered) and now that I have tried to cancel that part of the order, they said they cant! I am like, how, it hasn't been sent!? So I will be paying for something that hasn't been sent! Live and learn. I owe these people $300 on my husband's account and always pay that account on time, I hope they don't screw that up.

I purchased order from Fingerhut the middle of November. Still I'm yet to see them. Call to check my order status, they tell me to log in to my account. I see nothing when I do. Does anyone know after a few days do they take your orders off of the online support? Do they to be shipped before you can see the status of order? I email Fingerhut numerous times. I'm still yet to hear back from them. I'm so fed up with them. I know it's Christmas but come on, man.

Fingerhut is a horrible company. Even though I paid my account off (and yes I was delinquent by a few months) I still have 2 charge-offs on my credit report. YES, 2 and I can't seem to get Equifax to help me and the reps at Fingerhut won't help either. I can log in to my account and it says I have a credit limit of $0. Why, when it's supposed to be closed. Once I paid my account off (and I have bank statements to prove it - I made 2 payments which paid it in full) shouldn't the charge-offs be taken off my credit report?? I paid my debt but it's still listed on my report as 2 negative accounts.

I used FH years ago and do remember how they were really pushy about when they do not receive their payments on time. So I go to the point that I could not deal with these ppl harassing me over phone regarding payments. I did not pay them at all, but now I am getting catalogs from him saying I got a $600 credit limit. My credit is not that good and these people keep sending me catalogs, when in fact I owe them from years ago. They need to leave me alone.

I've closed the account years ago and keep on getting credit reports on what they are allowed to give out to other companies and keep on showing up as an open account on my credit report. The latest was receiving a computer generated letter stating, "Your outstanding record has earned you a credit line increase of $200.00," which is funny seeing my credit limit was zero which brought my credit limit to $200.00. Called 800 233-3588 and waited over ten minutes then being told I had to call Customer Service - 800 208-2500 with the only option of going to a live person by stating I wanted to cancel my order. Her answer was she would mark the account I don't want any other correspondence.

Please be aware of this company!!!! I purchased what I thought was a bathroom collection which would have cost me $60 when all payments were made, but when it was delivered, it was only a shower curtain. I then called them and stated I wanted to return it. The associate on the phone admitted that the wording was deceiving. I returned the shower curtain, which cost me $10, so far spent $40. I then requested a refund and only received $16.00 back because all the money I paid went towards shipping and handling. So now I spent $24 to be left with nothing. All the customer service rep did was apologize which I know they were trained to do. DO NOT ORDER FROM THE SITE!!!!

I have NEVER been treated so rudely as I have today with Fingerhut's CustomerService Line. Firstly I was on the phone over 2 hours before never getting anything accomplished due to the fact that they DO NOT speak English and when trying to explain a situation if you ask for someone who can understand you they hit this button that automatically hangs up on you. It is the rudest and most unthinkable way to do business I have ever experienced. I will NEVER do business with these people or their affiliates again.

I've had an account with Fingerhut for a while now. Been good standing with them. Had the credit increases and all. One payment is so far 2 days last. Mind you, there is a holiday during this time. In one day, I get 4 phone calls about my payment. 2 times I got hung up on and I had to call them back. I told them I had sent out the payment, how much it was, on what date and check #. And they still had to call me a 4th time harassing me about the payment. My first and only payment that was late and only 2 days late. I told the last agent as soon as I pay it off, I'm done. If this is how they treat their customer, I don't need it. On a scale from 1 to 10, I give Fingerhut a low 2. They also need better agents that know how to use a phone without hanging up on a person.

Sure it’s nice to buy stuff you don’t have to pay for now. But what a scam FH has going. I don’t mind paying 20-40 percent more for this service. But over 50? No way. Plastered all over the site today they said shipping was free, for today only. So 11:30 pm I put an order in. They say if it’s your first order that you cannot use the code for free shipping. ** you FH. For anyone wanting to buy stuff from them. It’s not worth it. Some things have a small mark up. But others are well over 100%. Just check Amazon first. You might pay $1200 for night vision that’s $400 on Amazon. Then factor in the shipping and the finance charges.

Then on 11/11, I contacted them with a phone call and email telling then to cancel my order and return my deposit. I was told that the order was cancelled. Almost two weeks later, I emailed them again regarding my refund that was paid with my debit card. Then I was told that it would be an additional 10 to 14 more days before I will receive my refund check. So it has taken them minutes to take my money and almost 30 days to get the refund... that is if I get it??? This has been a horrible experience.

I had made an order in July 2 years ago. I paid their $30.00 initial fee, they didn't send me the products I ordered. They swear up and down they did, but I know for a fact they did not. I called them, they sent me the information packet about lost or non-received Items, I filled it out and sent it in. I had to call them several times after this for Months because I hadn't heard back from them. One representative told me I was a liar and thief, and I called the main office and talked to a lady and she said no one should be talked to like that and she would personally remove the account and return the $30.00 fee to me. NOTHING...Then in February, I found that they had sold my account to a collections agent that wants me to pay over $300.00 when all I would have owed was $58.00 had they sent what I ordered... They are a sorry ** company.

I have read so many bad reviews for Fingerhut on here and other sites so I figured it was time for me to chime in. Fingerhut has always been good to me and my family. Yes, the prices on most items are higher than other sites and stores but you have to expect that when dealing with a company that allows you to buy an item on credit with payments. Yes the shipping costs are outrageous but once again, that is to be expected when dealing with a company that allows you to buy an item on credit with payments.. I applied for Fingerhut credit 2 years ago with a starting credit limit of $200. Over those 2 years, I have been able to purchase many quality items and never had an issue. My credit limit has gradually increased over those 2 years. My only complaint is that you cannot 'request' a credit increase, just have to wait for Fingerhut to increase your credit limit whenever they decide to do it. So, I am giving 4 stars for Fingerhut, lacking the 5th star simply because there is no way to 'request' a credit line increase..

As far as I understand when I talked with Fingerhut they let me know that I had around $11 balance. I'd signed up previously for automatic payments to be taken out so I didn't understand at first but since she said I'd owed it I paid it. So a few weeks later I tried to order I was told I had no credit. That's unfair. How come they took away my credit after I paid the bill? Why not contact me through mail, tell me something. It was a injustice unto me and my family.

I made a payment online to my Fingerhut account. I have 2 methods to make payments from on my account (2 bank accounts). I checked to make a payment from my account ending in **. When the payment was processed, it switched the payment to be made from my other account ending in **. I immediately called customer service to fix this problem. They assured me that they could cancel the payment and fix it to come out of the right account. I waited a few days noticing the payment never came out of the account it should have. I checked my other account and the payment had still come out of the wrong account... the one with no money in it.
My bank charged me a NSF fee due to this Fingerhut mistake... When I tried to get Fingerhut to refund my NSF fee because they took the money from an account I did not authorize this payment to be made from, they told me they would not refund the fee charged to me because it was a NSF fee (that was only charged to me because of their negligence and inability to charge the account I wanted to make a payment from, the one with money in it). I have faxed both of my bank statements into Fingerhut for their review and was told I would receive a call within 24-48 hours...
This was 4 days ago and nobody has bothered to call me back. If I had made the payment from the account with no money in it then, I could understand paying a NSF fee, but I told them to take the money from the account ending in** and this should be in their recorded phone conversations, I sent proof the payment was taken from the wrong account, and I feel that I should be refunded the amount I was charged by my bank for their mistake. $34.00 is what I am owed by Fingerhut... I will continue to dispute this until Fingerhut makes right what they messed up!

The Sprint phone I had dropped calls constantly, so I ordered this Samsung phone from Fingerhut hoping it would be more reliable. I had it for 3 days before I got to the Sprint center - to everyone's surprise, that phone absolutely would not interface with Sprint's program, no sync. Was the phone ever actually turned on? As I remember, no. One thing is certain, it was only out of the box for about an hour total while in my possession.
I returned it the following day, insured and via USPS, per their instructions. I've waited for 2 weeks for the letter I received today stating I would not be issued credit because: "WE HAVE CONCLUDED THAT IT HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO UNREASONABLE USE AND/OR EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR." What? So I listened to elevator music for 38 minutes while I waited for Lisa, who first advised me I would get no credit because I had the item over 30 days. No, Lisa, wrong. Try again. On hold forever while she actually reads a copy of the letter I received and began quoting it to me verbatim.
My options are: (1) having the phone returned to me within a month; or (2) they will destroy the phone for me. They are forcing me to take possession of this phone which I cannot use. Fingerhut's behavior is beyond cheesy. I am going to follow every possible path to get the $260 credited back to me. This seems to be an arbitrary decision on their part to get money; I am just livid.

I received a promo code from Fingerhut, for 50% off already clearanced items. Well I spent quite a bit of time, looking at their items. Everything I put into my cart was clearanced. When I tried to add the promo code they sent me, it kept erroring, saying my order did not qualify for this promo code. So I contacted Fingerhut, they told me it was only good for Fresh start customers, which is what I am. So then once they figured that out, they emailed me and said that promo code is only for customers that are not in the Fresh start program.
There is nowhere on the promo code site that it says it is not good for Fresh start customers. It makes me angry when a company send you a promo code, then will not honor it. I have seen many complaints regarding the same problem. The promo code ends tomorrow. Their prices are much higher than the items would normally sell for. I thought I would give their site a try. But with the misleading emails and promo codes, I think I will just take my business elsewhere.

In my experience, Fingerhut has never sent a statement. They also never have the payment due date on my account page or my minimum payment. I had to figure this out myself. You also have to be careful. The amount they have listed as the balance I owe is actually $38 less than what the actual amount owed and it always stays $38 less even if I buy something else. I keep track of everything I buy to the penny and I just couldn't believe how much it was off. If I would have just gone with the amount they had listed for the amount I owe, my minimum payment would have been wrong and I would have acquired a late fee. I always pay more than the minimum but it's just the point. Are they doing this to other people too?

When I finally got an answer, I paid the balance in full which was the first and only time of being late. I tried to have the account reinstated. They will not because they charged it off even though it was paid in full. I was told I could never ever apply again in life. It has been 2 years. The credit department representative was nasty and not willing to even listen to me. Needless to say, I got very angry and called her a name that wasn't' very nice. I was also supposed to receive a free gift for the order. I am still waiting for the free gift. Now I received my first month statement, this month, of $13.99. On the 2nd of June I tried to make a payment with my debit card and the lady said, "It didn't go through," and I know the money was on my card. She said, "Call back in five or six hours," and I grew kind of concerned about this. So I tried to make a payment on the website and a person from Fingerhut told me I couldn't do this either, so I told her I would send a money order that day and I did.
Today, they called me and told me they had not received payment and wanted me to make a debit card payment over the phone. I believe this is their gimmick because my account has jumped up more than the $13.99 and they say they have not received my payment. I called them and told them I thought the payment had already got there because it doesn't take that long to get mail in the US. I think they make big money with late charges. I placed an order online on a Friday after hours for Fingerhut. It turned right around and I sent an email to customer service to request an address change (as this was how I was instructed before) the same evening. Email reply was received on Monday, Memorial Day. I was told Tuesday. I spoke with customer service about changing address and after lengthy discussion, Fingerhut agent told me in order to change address, she would first have to cancel the order and my money would be returned. Also, she told me she would have another agent from another department call me and I would then place my order over the phone, I suppose. I never did get that call. Next, I spoke with Pam and it was no help, no refund and here's why.
Even though I cancelled my order immediately, they SHIPPED part of it to the address I was trying to change. My question is, why did they cancel only part of my order? Now I cannot get my money refunded because they shipped part of the order I cancelled. Next there was Beth who was no help. Then I received a lovely email from Tracey telling me HOW STUPID I AM. I need help getting my $30 back. I am not a rich person and I don't think I should be penalized for simply trying to change the delivery address. I could understand if I had procrastinated with the change of address request but I jumped right on that as soon as I made the order.

I ordered a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and cover (separate item order) from Fingerhut. The tracking numbers provided information regarding both items, indicating when they would be delivered by the USPS. Although the tracking numbers were FedEx, they explained that for some items they put them through the USPS. I was surprised when the cover was delivered earlier than the projected delivery date. Good news! Inside the box, besides the tablet cover, was an 8GB memory card. I wasn't sure what this was in there for but felt that once I received the tablet, it would be explained.
I then went online to check the status of the tablet and found that it said delivered. I contacted Fingerhut's customer service line (which I had to do an internet search to find) and once I called, I realized that it appeared to be routed through another country (sounder Indian). I explained that the tracking said the package was delivered, but only the cover was, not the tablet. I was told to look around my bushes, check with my neighbors, etc. When I explained I was home when it was delivered, I was told they would send me a form to complete, stating my claim and they would get back with me.
Looking closer at the tracking numbers (something I did not do previously), I noticed they were the same. I contacted FedEx naively explaining the error of the duplicate tracking number and they said it was impossible, to check with the company's shipping dept. What shipping dept.? So I called customer service back and said it was all supposed to be in one box, but the tablet was not. I was told that they would send me the form.
The form arrived; I completed it immediately indicating that the tablet was not in the box. About 5 days later, I received a reply in the form of a letter. Their records show the box was delivered, that they concluded their investigation and would continue to bill me. If I disputed it, I should complete a police report and send them a copy. Seriously? I never said I did not get the box. The tablet was not in it. I am beyond frustrated - after having called back and demanded reconsideration, as I am neither a liar nor a thief, but rather a 62-year old woman who wanted a tablet. I am not sure what to do at this point, but I feel that the company should be held accountable. They either have sloppy shipping standards or someone is helping themselves to merchandise. Thank you.

I ordered a mini fridge from Fingerhut. Then I was called away for an emergency so I called to let them know I wouldn't be home for delivery. They said no problem. It has to be signed for so it will be returned. I called FedEx to make sure. They told me to leave a note on my door to return package to sender, so I did. A huge note. I came home a week later, no package. Great that's what I wanted. I called Fingerhut and they said they needed to wait to hear back from the company shipper and then could credit my 213 bucks back.
Well, I've called every single week and no one can tell me where it was returned to and it's been two full months since I called to confirm that it was returned. I just kept getting these people telling me that they requested the shipper info and haven't heard back. And so I'm still paying for a mini fridge I never received. I asked them when they receive it, will I be refunded my money and payments? I got transferred then hung up on. I still continue to call weekly and I've gotten nowhere at all. I'm beyond frustrated!

I hate dealing with this company but I needed a vacuum cleaner quickly. I am disabled and cannot go out to buy one. I ordered the item, paid an extra ten bucks for faster delivery. I learned from UPS that despite this, they sent it by ground, the usual way they deliver items and it will arrive a day later than I really need it. It is impossible to contact these creeps. Their telephone number is well-hidden and no one answers, nor can you send them an email. I want to file a formal complaint. I hate being screwed over, which is exactly what I told UPS. They confirmed they did not ask for expedited delivery. This is an awful company.

I called Fingerhut for a return label. They sent me one for the item to be returned - USPS label. I took the item to the post office and would not accept because they said it was too large. They suggested I take it to UPS. I had to pay to send it back, ask to be reimbursed and was told I would be just mailed a receipt. I did. I called to check on the status and was told that they sent me a FedEx label the next day, and I should have used that. I never received a FedEx label and it would not have done me any good since I had already sent back. I was told to send my receipt and I would be reimbursed. I did what I was told to do.

I made a payment on my account over the phone to pay off my balance and was told that I qualified for the revolving account. I went to go check my bank account and noticed that there were two charges pending for the same amount. I called my bank and asked them what was going on and they said they must have run it through twice. They said one would more than likely go through and one would drop off after 3 to 5 business days. I then called Fingerhut asking why they ran it twice. They said it must have been an accident but everything is fine. I checked my account a couple of times and the pending transaction was still just sitting there so I figured I would wait to see what happened.
I received a call from Fingerhut stating that I was late on my payment and the phone got disconnected, so I called them to see what was going on. I told the lady I made the payment and explained how there were two payments pending on my bank account the last time I looked. The lady straight up told me I was lying. She says according to the notes, I hung up before the guy could process my payment. I let her know that he did process it and he also told me I qualify for the revolving account and she stated I was lying again. She stated there is no way anyone would tell me that.
I then asked for a supervisor. The supervisor stated the third party that they used could have seen it as fraud due to the double payment being put through and declined it so that Fingerhut was not able to collect payment. I said, "Okay, so can we waive the late fee?" He said no because it wasn't Fingerhut's fault, it was mine. Really? How is it my fault that their agent put my CC through twice? Then the supervisor went to tell me that the guy rep I talked to last time couldn't have said that I qualify for the revolving account because I was late one day as I mailed the payment in February. I stated he did tell me that. I then stated that I would like him to listen to the recording because this whole situation is not good. Something happened that was out of my control. I got called a liar multiple times and then they refuse to help me with the late fee.
Then I asked him about the payment that I was one day late on and I said I thought they went by the postmark date and not the day they received it. Then he starts freaking out saying I ruined my credibility. Really? Who talks to customers this way? Who runs a business this way? I'm absolutely floored. So not only are they not going to listen to the recording, the first guy who helped me is going to get away with putting false information on my file and telling me false information. And the lady rep that helped me is going to get away with treating customers like crap and calling them names that they should not have. It is pretty sad that a customer did nothing wrong and yet this is how they treat them. I will never use them. I know a lot of people who have and do use them and I will make sure everyone knows how they run their business. That was uncalled for and very unprofessional.

Don't even think about it. 2 days later, I sent them an email asking, "What's going on? Am I approved or not?" They replied 2 days later saying that they tried to call, but was no call in reality, and I should call back. So I called back. A girl who barely spoke English said that my application didn't get through and I should do it again by phone. I found it a bit wackier, but I said let's do it again.
Finally, after all details, address, social security, bank, etc., they asked me to send them a copy of the social security card. "Are you crazy?" I asked. I am not going to do that. I said, "What for?" Listen here... to verify my identity. Can you believe it? They really asked, twice, to send them a fax or a scan of my social security card. I am so happy I didn't do it, especially after seeing the reviews here. Stay away as much as you can. It's not worth it.

I mailed a payment by money order last Wednesday on March 27 for a payment that was due on April 1st. I mailed it by priority mail so it should have gotten there by Saturday. At the latest, it would have been on time if they would put our account number on the bill as that is why I was unable to pay in person at the Walmart because they changed the way they take their payments. They used to use the customer service number. Now they say they don't which makes our payment late. I have a terrible time dealing with their customer service as they are all outside of the United States and tell us to call back. This is ridiculous. The law reads if you ask for someone in the US, they are to transfer you back; one should not have to call back. Again, I am reporting them to Consumer Complaints for this company.

I kept getting catalogs from Fingerhut promising me that I was already approved with a $400 credit limit and all I had to do was order. My credit is not at the bottom of the barrel, but nowhere close to the top, either. It was close to Christmas, and with a pending divorce and 3 kids, I decided to order. The advertisements in the catalog all promised me that if I placed an order by a certain date, it was "guaranteed" to arrive by December 24th. I filled out the order form and submitted it, and was immediately told that I didn't qualify for their so-called pre-approved credit limit, but that they would start me out with a FreshStart account. All I had to do was give them $30 and then make monthly payments.
I asked why was I told I was pre-approved if I really wasn't? All I got was some crazy runaround that made no sense, but I wanted the items for my kids, and needed the payment plan, so I set up a payment immediately and waited for a response to my order telling me when it would be shipped. It never came. I kept calling and asking about it, explaining that these were Christmas presents, and that I needed them ASAP just like their catalog and website promised; all the websites told me was that the order was pending.
I kept getting the runaround and different stories from everyone I talked to. I told them to cancel the order, but was told that once you place an order with them, there is no way to cancel it, as it immediately starts processing once you hit the button. One gentleman I could barely understand assured me that the order had been processed and shipped, contrary to what the website said, and that I would indeed have it by December 24th. Not quite convinced, I checked the website again the next day, where it said the same thing, that the order was still pending.
I called again, and after a ridiculously long wait time, I was connected with a girl who couldn't care less who informed me that my order was not shipped, and that they had to wait 10 days for my payment to clear before they could ship it out! Are you kidding? In this day and age of electronic everything, I have to wait 10 days for my payment to clear? I kept telling her that it had cleared my bank that very evening, but she didn't care. She told me to call back after Christmas and check on it again. I told her that it was a Christmas present and to just give me my money back.
She said fine, and then told me that it would be 10-15 business days before I got a refund, and that the check would be mailed to me. That was, 10-15 days after the 10 days they were waiting for my funds to clear the bank, which had done so days before. I was fuming. I finally asked the girl, "So, what you're telling me is that I will be lucky to get my $30 back sometime in January, correct?" She hemmed and hawed, and finally said, "Yes, probably." I kept asking for a supervisor and was told none were available. When I called back and insisted, the supervisor told me the same thing, didn't seem to care, and told me that they would be closed all the next week due to the holiday, and to call back after Christmas. I told her to cancel the order.
I was told again that it was too late to cancel, but that I could refuse the order when it was received, and have it sent back to them. It would then be close to February before I got my $30. At this point, I was livid. I sent onto HSN, where I have been ordering from for years, and got my order within 48 hours, no hassles, right before Christmas, on time. I should have ordered from them to begin with, but was intrigued by all the false promises Fingerhut made to me. So, the order finally shipped out, on December 26, the day after Christmas and I got it right after the first of the year. My son kept the camera I ordered because he liked it and I figured what the heck, right? I have now made two payments; my third was due yesterday. I was so busy at work that I didn't get it in until today. They have been harassing me all day with phone calls, bombarding me about my "late" payment.
Are you kidding? It's less than 24 hours and it's now a "late" payment. I checked on the website and it now tells me that once I pay off the account, I can "try again" for another FreshStart account and see if next time I can get approved for a "real" account with Fingerhut. Underneath that, it claims that they are trying to collect a debt. Now I'm in collections for $120 and less than 24 hours? These people are unreal and should be shut down immediately. I used them 25 years ago, which was why I used them again, but they are nothing compared to what they once were. Their customer service, or lack of it, lies and rude, rude, uncaring people have destroyed them. They need to be shut down, fined and never allowed to scam anyone ever again. These people are scammers, folks! Don't order from them ever! I will be paying them off in full next month and I'm never ordering from them again!

My Fingerhut order consisted of only a queen size set of sheets and 2 Platinum Plated Sterling Silver Message Bands. I ordered both for size 7. I realized when I placed the order that I needed to change one size to an 8. The next day, I emailed Fingerhut and asked them if they could just change one size to an 8, since just the night before, I placed the order. They told me that I would have to contact Customer Service to cancel out the order completely and reorder it since they can't just simply change the size. It's never that easy, right? This was where the fun began... I called Customer Service to only have the worst customer service I have ever experienced, which is sad for me to say, since I have actually worked at plenty of call centers, which I will never complain about again compared to them.
The representatives can barely speak English, let alone understand it. It was a big, big language barrier. I had a male rep come on the line with me. He did not seem to know what he was doing whatsoever let alone pay attention to what I was saying. I specifically told him the only thing I wanted to do was to change one of my ring orders to a size 8. It sounds so simple, right? Well, you are wrong! He kept saying he would cancel out both of my orders when I told him not to. I let him know yet again to only change one of the orders. I called back the next day since I saw, of course, both of my ring orders were canceled out. I got a female rep and spoke with the supervisor. They both were very rude to me and said that I told the gentleman that I wanted to cancel out both orders which of course was not true. He just wasn't paying attention like everyone else who works for Fingerhut. She said that normally when it's canceled like that, it can still ship somehow.
Since it was canceled out, that credit amount went back on my account. So I went ahead and reordered the 2 Platinum Plated Sterling Silver Message Bands with the correct sizes. Of course, within the next few days, the 2 rings I didn't want came in the mail. Also I noticed it charged me for the rings I didn't want as well. I called the call center back and they said that I could return the rings without paying shipping. I also let them know that I got the correct-sized rings and the rings themselves were such poor quality. In the picture online, they looked thicker and sturdier. When I took one out of the package, it was very, very thin and seems like it could break at any second. Plus they were extremely cheesy looking. I refuse to pay $80 per ring for something like this. The representative didn't even apologize. Go figure! She said that for the return, they just need to send out a return shipping label to me; then they would credit me back.
As of today, which has now been about a week, I am still waiting for those return shipping labels for all 3 rings. The only good thing that has kind of come out of this, is that the sheets that I ordered are good quality although they are very overpriced. I found the exact same sheets for about $60 less at Walmart. Overall, this was poor customer service, poor quality of items, and no one knows their right hand from their left. Will I order from Fingerhut in the future? No, Walmart has better quality items and customer service than these people do.

I had ordered a bed in a box and mattress from Fingerhut. About thirty minutes later, my husband informed me not to order it because it would be cheaply made. I called back requesting a cancellation, was on hold 30 plus minutes, and was finally told it would be cancelled. Yet two days later sitting on my porch was the mattress, which they had told me wouldn’t ship out for 3 weeks when I ordered it! So I called telling I had cancelled. And then they tell me you can’t cancel once you place an order, but the lady on the phone said it was cancelled!
So I scheduled a pickup for UPS to come take it back like Fingerhut told me to do, and when the bed came in, I refused it. I’m told it will take 30 days to credit the money back on account, but they never do! Then, I start being harassed that I never paid for the items I sent back, and they claim I have them! I have been harassed for 2 plus years now for things I never brought in my house! Now, they’re threatening legal action! I will not pay for things I don’t have! I followed all their requests at getting the packages back to them and have done nothing wrong! I am extremely livid!

Third was a roughly 2-year-old Acer laptop with less than 60 hours run time. I only used it for about once every few months. I find it hard to believe that that many products go bad in less than 2 years. Fingerhut sells obsolete products at premium prices, has absolutely no way to cancel an order in the event that you change your mind or make an error, keeps you on hold for an unacceptable time frame and tries to rip you off at every corner.
The Order - I placed an order for a cell phone, an HTC HD7 Windows Phone. I mistakenly thought this was the newly released windows phone (which I soon realized is the HTC HD8, not HD7). I went ahead and ordered. Then as I viewed a review of the phone on YouTube, I realized that I'd purchased the HD7 from them, not the HD8. The HD7 was released in 2010 and is obsolete as far as smart phones go. It is available at all other outlets for between $149 and $199 because it is an older model.
When I realized the mistake (about 2 hours later), I sent an email requesting to cancel. This was when my problems began. Unlike most all other vendors, Fingerhut does not cancel your order. They claim that they begin fulfilling it as you check out and therefore can't guarantee a cancellation. Almost every vendor I know begins filling orders upon checkout but as long as the order hasn't shipped, they can cancel and Fingerhut can too, but they refuse to. I received an email saying that they attempted to cancel my order. I called to confirm. I was on hold 45 minutes. A representative answered the phone and told me that it was indeed cancelled and that it would take 24 hours to process and receive my cancellation number and that I wouldn't be charged.
Surprise, surprise! After 24 hours, I did not receive a confirmation of the cancellation so I sent another email. No one ever responded. After another 24 hours, I sent another email. Again, no response. Then I received an email saying that my package shipped. This was 2 days after I requested cancellation. I called again and told the representative that this order was supposed to be canceled 2 days ago. The item shipped 48 hours after I'd requested cancellation and you're telling me that's not enough time to cancel an order? The representative kept telling me to try the 30-day-in-home-trial. No, this item was requested to be canceled and then you shipped it 48 hours later? The representative told me he would send me a return shipping label. So now I'm supposed to pay to ship it back just because you refused to cancel? I cannot be the first or last person to place an order in error. I told him, "Forget the return shipping label. I will track the package, stay home and refuse your garbage shipment."
Refused Shipment - I stayed home all day waiting on the UPS man. They were not going to stick me with a package that I didn't want, trying to sell me an obsolete phone for $379? If that's not a rip off, then what is? The new version was released December 3rd and it is $369, so why would I pay $379 for a version from nearly 3 years ago (it's almost 2013 and the phone Fingerhut is trying to pawn off is from 2010)? The tracking label showed that I refused the shipment because I cancelled the order and it was sent in error. The phone was delivered to the vendor on December 7th as confirmed on the tracking information
Back To The Phone - I called back to find out what the next step was after refusing shipment. I was on hold for 45 minutes. That's completely and utterly unacceptable. We're talking about a 1.6 billion dollar company and they don't have enough agents to answer calls in a timely manner? What a joke! This company is despicable and I'd say pass on them no matter how desperate you are for credit. The agent told me to wait 7 business days for the item to return and then I would be credited. It has been 12 days since the item arrived at the vendor and still no credit. I demanded that my account be closed immediately; however, they are still charging me interest on a phone I don't have and still showing my outstanding balance as $379.99 instead of $0.00? On top of that, when you close your account, they keep all your details active; they never delete your account!
Their Loss - I was a good customer. I never paid late. I never took out more credit than I needed. I only ordered one item at a time and paid it off. They even raised my limit from $200 to $500. The fact that you cannot cancel any orders made in error is ridiculous. They just want to stick you with their sub par obsolete premium-priced crap so that you will either give in and keep it or they will charge you an outrageous re-stocking fee and shipping and handling fee. Never in my life have I ordered something from a merchant and they refused to cancel it. Meanwhile, you are expected to pay on an item they refuse to cancel and that you don't have in your possession while they take you through the ringer. They are trying to profit no matter what, whether it's on re-stocking fees, interest on an item they refused to cancel or whatever. Their goal is to make it easy to order but difficult to receive any real service or assistance thereafter.
Demographics - Fingerhut banks on the fact that their demographics are mostly consumers with damaged credit that are looking to rebuild. They trick you into thinking they are a good option and as long as you're ordering and paying on time they will play nice. The moment there's an issue with your order, forget it. You're on your own and it's their opportunity to take advantage of any mistakes or errors you make. They are banking on you being incompetent and uneducated. I'm college-educated and my credit score is 620, not perfect, but not terrible either. You've fugged (purposeful spelling) with the wrong person, Fingerhut.
Take Them Down - Wait until the shenanigans are over and cancel your accounts, people. Hit them where it hurts, which is their bottom line. Don't give them your good business. They will no longer get mine. I will file complaints with the Consumer Affairs Department of California. I am also a journalist for the Los Angeles Times and plan to do an article on the poor service and illegal tactics that Fingerhut uses to get your money and keep it, meanwhile keeping you on hold close to an hour and refusing to cancel your order, or acting like they "attempted" to cancel and couldn't. I'm going to interview other consumers. The Los Angeles Times has circulation of just over 1 million.
Take that, Fingerhut. I'm going to make sure you don't get more potential customers to torture from any time soon. I am also filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and filing complaints on every single consumer website in existence. I will spread word-of-mouth to all of my friends and family. I also run a very popular consumer blog and I will inform my readers of this. I get over 68,000 page hits per month from all over the United States so this will help spread the word further since my Los Angeles Times article will be local. I will also file complaints with the FTC and every consumer protection agency.

I placed an order for some personalized Tinkerbell Car Mats for my niece for Christmas. Fingerhut sent a catalog and it was plastered all over their website that if you order by December 18, you'll have your items before Christmas. I ordered the mats on December 3rd. I received the mats on December 15. Lo and behold, the mats didn't have Tinkerbell anywhere on them. So, of course, I had to wait until Monday to talk to Customer Service. I sat on hold for about an hour and a half the first time only for an agent to get on the phone and put me on hold and "accidentally" disconnect the call.
So I exhaled and called back the second time and I sat on hold for 2 hours before an agent came on. He assured me he wouldn't disconnect the call. However, to resolve my issue, they will send a label for me to ship the mats back but the whole process will take 15 business days (3 weeks) and then the manufacturer will ship out some more mats, so that's about another month. Smh, I am so angry and overwhelmed because they expect their money on time so why would it be so hard to reship a product that they messed up on? I am so, so over Fingerhut because almost the same thing happened last year. The only difference is the item wasn't personalized. This was supposed to be a Christmas gift.

So I had someone all day to wait on my package until I've gotten home only to realize no package was ever delivered.
I immediately called Fingerhut customer service corporate office and I was on hold for an hour. I spoke with Kelly who doesn't seem to care and rushed me off the phone due to their closing at 8 while I was trying to advise her of my situation. I told her that there are over 60 units or more in that apartment complex and they can't just leave deliveries on my front door. I don't know what's going on! I have not received my package. Rep Kelly advised me to contact FedEx. I told her that they should do the investigation with FedEx themselves because they have charged me for an order worth $130 and $30 in shipping and I have not gotten my order! I informed rep Kelly to please reship my order, signature required so that way I can get my order or they would have to carry it back for pick up or delivery.
She refused and said that she will have to mail an affidavit for me to fill out and send back. So I am already upset due to not receiving my order, being put on hold for an hour and this girl doesn't want to help me. I advised her that if they can't help me now that they should just credit my account in full and cancel the order. She immediately replied as if she didn't care about customers or their issues, "Okay, I will process your cancellation." So that made me even upset so I informed this so-called rep to get me a supervisor and I will be contacting the BBB and her director! You think she cared? She placed me on hold and in less than 7 seconds came back, and told me that the supervisor lines are closed and I will have to call back Monday. I couldn't believe what was going on. I inquired if there was a supervisor on the floor to help me and she stated no and that the only way to get a supervisor is to call a number and their lines are closed!
This problem has upset and stressed me out that I went to bed and woke up at midnight still stressed. I can't sleep so I contacted Consumer Affairs. Somebody, please help me. I don't know whether to cry or scream. That's how upset I am. I feel taken advantage of by this company. This company keeps sending me letters advising me I'm an A+ customer to their company but I can't get A+ customer service! This is terrible and bad business!

I applied for a Fingerhut account in April because I needed a steam cleaner. They started me on the fresh start program with a limit of $170. I made all of my payments early every month. My very last month, I checked my account and it showed that they rejected my payment and told me it was because of my bank returning the payment. I checked with my bank and my bank had not even had any payments gone through for Fingerhut in November. I tried calling customer service and kept getting the runaround and was told my payment was returned for NSF. Finally, I emailed and got a call back on it. It was supposed to be taken care of but now I am told it was returned because the account number was one number off. I find that very convenient being that it was my last payment and I am sure my account number was entered correctly because I always check. Fingerhut can forget about me continuing to order from them.

So I just gave up, then in June of 2012, Fingerhut started sending a statement with charges at $20 for what, I don't know. I called Fingerhut. They were unable to tell me what the charges were for. I sent Fingerhut (Bluestem Brands) a payment for $264.33 they first deposited in on September 9th, 2012. It was presented to my account on the 11th of September. My bank sent it back to them the same day and charged me a $29.00 NSF fee. They redeposited the check on the 11th and cleared my bank account on the 13th of September. I started getting calls from Fingerhut saying I need to pay $96.00 and something cents to bring my account current. I said to them I just sent them a payment, and they said it was declined. I said no and that it cleared my account. The Collections Rep and Collections Floor Supervisor became very rude and started calling me a liar. She requested I provide proof of the payment clearing, and I said I didn't have to. She said fine and that they will just continue calling and what not.
So on October 12th, I scanned a copy of my statement and voided check to email Fingerhut. I did this on the 12th of October. On October 15th, I called them for a follow-up on my email. The Customer Service Rep (Yolanda) at 800-208-2500 stated that my email from the 12th of October was sent to a specialist for review. I stated, "Please have the specialist contact me for an update." I still haven't heard from them. So, I went ahead and filed a complaint with the BBB. They said that I had enough for them to investigate. If you want to file a complaint against Fingerhut, go to www.minnesota.bbb.org and click on "file a complaint." Type in Bluestem Brands (Fingerhut) with telephone 800-208-2500. I was approved for a Fingerhut credit line of $170. I was told that I could buy anything that I wanted up to $170, but I would have to make a down payment of $30 and I then will be billed a minimum monthly payment of $25 until my balance was paid in full. I thought that this was a "sweet idea", so I paid the $30. Never once did the rep tell me what the $30 was for. The $30 was subtracted from my $170 credit, so I would have to pay back $140. I had no problem with this. I ordered my items and when they finally arrived, my purse was big as a suitcase, my dress was as big as a car cover, and my shoes were as small as dimes. I was very upset with this, so I sent them back! To make matters worse, Fingerhut has no return slip, so I had to spend $15 to return my items and that included insurance and delivery confirmation, which is what Fingerhut recommends when returning items.
After not hearing from Fingerhut for weeks, I finally called them to ask them what the status was on my return. They said, "Oh, we don't have these items in stock, so you can just get a store credit or you can get a refund." I didn't want to go through the same thing all over again, so I just asked for a refund of my $30 down payment plus the $15 return fee. They said that they couldn't refund my return fee because that is not their problem, but they would return my down payment fee. I said, “Whatever, I will be waiting.” They said it would take two weeks for my refund to come in the mail and I said whatever. So, I thought that I was going to get a check for $30 - wrong! Fingerhut had the nerve to send me a damn check for $2.66, claiming that it was an overpayment on my account! Ha-ha: are they serious?
I called to find out what the hell they were doing and they claimed that the $2.66 was the remainder after they deducted $25 from my $30 down payment to cover their shipping and handling fees! I could not believe this! I am so upset with this fraudulent company! I trusted this company because my uncle used to order from it when I was a little girl. I am 29 years old now and it’s a damn shame that I was scammed out of $30! I hope their broke ** needed it because they have all my money plus their items - and me, I am ** out! I ordered a set of goose down pillows from Fingerhut. I received the pillows and two months later, the feathers were coming through the pillow cases which made them unusable. I tried to call customer service using the phone number posted on their website. The website is designed so that an individual cannot actually speak with a live customer rep. After 45 minutes of wasted time, I finally selected "place an order." It was remarkable how fast a live individual was on the phone to take my order and charge me.
I was pretty hard on the individual and after some choice words and litigation threats, she informed me that when you dial the 1 800 208 2873 customer service number, you must say "agent" several times interrupting the computer generated voice and it will prompt you to a live representative after roughly 10 minutes of hold time. Nowhere in the system does it say this nor is it on the webpage. This is the "only" way of getting a live rep.

I very happily placed my first order with Fingerhut in the middle of March for a sterling silver couples ring. The picture of the ring on the website was beautiful! I fell in love with the style. When I received my ring in the mail a couple of days ago, it looked nothing like the picture on the website. It looked cheap. It cost me $159 before shipping charges and the ring I received you would only think would have cost me $20. The sad thing is that this was supposed to be an anniversary present from my husband and I couldn't wait to show it off. But now, I'm embarrassed to even let anyone see it because it looks so cheap.
I called Fingerhut and explained my dissatisfaction and all they told me was that since it was a personalized item that there was nothing they could do, that it states on the website that they do not accept returns on personalized items. I explained to her that if the item that I received looked like the picture that they had available on the website, that I would have been highly satisfied, but it didn't.
After speaking to a rude representative who basically mocked me, and then speaking to a supervisor, the only solution that they could give me was to refund my shipping charges. After reading some of the other complaints about this company, and how they handle their credit card, I don't think that this will go smoothly either.
I think that it is false advertising to present a product on a website and then have the final product come out looking nothing like the picture. Just because it is personalized should not mean that I should have to pay for something that doesn't look like what I thought I was ordering. I will be closing my brand new Fingerhut account as soon as possible and I would not recommend anyone become a customer of this company.

It was delivered two states away. I called and was told that they would investigate. I heard nothing so I called back two weeks later. They never did anything. So they started the process over and said they were sending me paperwork to sign. What I got was a letter stating that since it got delivered, I had to pay even though it was delivered to the wrong state and left at a random address. They even admit that my address was the shipping address and then insisted that it was the warehouse's fault and refused to take any responsibility. This made me very angry. It has all been downhill since. They began calling me 5 to 7 times a day and when I answer, there is no one there. I have 23 blank voicemails over the last four days.

My name is Sam **, fiancé of Rhiannon **. Last month (beginning of Feb 2012), I received several calls, almost back to back, from Fingerhut's customer service department eventually finding out that they were calling about a payment that was due the day before they called. Keep in mind, I received these multiple, harassing calls during the morning time while I was at work so the payment wasn't even a full day late, just a few hours and they were calling as if we were 2 weeks or a month late, and I couldn’t pick up the phone because I was in a meeting with the other executives of my company.
However, there's more! When I finally answered, the phone, which I had to excuse myself from the meeting to do so (how embarrassing is that), the lady asked for my fiancé and I explained to her that this is my phone, that I am at work, and that I am her fiancé and pay all the bills so I can take care of it. The rep then said that she can only speak to my fiancé, so I informed her that she was calling my phone, not hers, and asked how they got my number and explained that they have been calling back to back while I was in a meeting. She became very rude with attitude all over here, tone of voice repeating that she can only talk to Rhiannon and never once, apologized for the multiple harassing calls, no common customer service courtesy what so ever from this rep! I then told her that if she is calling about the bill, that I will pay it now online.
The rep hung up on me so I went online to pay the bill, everything processed just fine and was debited from my bank account yet they continued to call day after day after day until finally, they called while I was sitting beside my fiancé so I answered and handed the phone to her. They were still calling about the same bill that was now fully paid and once again, the rep (totally different rep than the first time) was extremely rude and being very pushy about the bill! Not only do they obviously not update their payment records with customer service department, but I have to say that their customer service is the most horrible I have ever experienced!
I have worked in the customer service environment for several years now and if I had heard any of my employees talking to a customer like the way that both reps talked to me and my fiancé, I would have fired them immediately.
I think it's a little strange that not only the first rep was extremely rude but also the second, which tells me that they are tolerant towards their reps being harassing and rude to customer. If I was a fly on the wall inside their customer service department, I would not be surprised at all to find out that their reps probably mute the customers / place customers on hold and begin talking trash about them. If anyone reading this message works for the customer service departments... tell me that I’m right!
Today, (2-29-12), I tried calling the customer service number (800)208-2500 in efforts to ask one simple question about paying my next payment early and even seeing if I could pay $150 of my remaining total to eliminate billing occurring for the next 5 months. The first time I called, after having to go through a series of different menu options, the system disconnected the phone call so I called again and once again, after having to go through different menu options, an automated voice stated that an error occurred, giving some sort of error code, and then hung up on me. So I tried to call back once again and also, once again, went through the same multiple menu options, all to find out that there is no option to speak with a live representative and I tried everything I could think of to get to one. Overall, I just wanted to have one question answered. I just submitted a question form on their website requesting customer service and it says that someone will be in touch with me within 1-3 business days. Let’s see how long it really takes and if they will even talk to me about this account. I would like to end this complaint by saying that after reading the vast amount of complaints from other people here who what it seems have experienced very similar types of bad customer service.
I am very regretful that we became Fingerhut customers. They have increased the credit limit on the card so we can buy more stuff from them but for any representatives from Fingerhut that might be reading. I can assure you that this increased credit line will not be used. I can't wait to have what we have paid off. Maybe if they get back to me within a respectable time frame to resolve my question and maybe attempt some sort of customer service appreciation for what we have experience so far, maybe my opinion will change but I have little to no faith that this will happen. I have been added onto the account by my fiancé during the last rude phone call from your customer service department so let’s see if they did their job and added me. If your company calls my phone and then tells me that they can't talk to me about this account, I will move forward with every possible complaint procedure, starting with the BBB. If you don't take me seriously, take note that I took the time out to write this lengthy complaint on a simple online link so I would definitely take this very seriously if you even care about the reputation of how you treat your existing customers.

You are being asked for your social security number when you want to make a cash purchase. They are also advertising promotions for discounts by direct mail and on the website, however if you attempt to place an order, and have an open account with them, they do not want to honor the promo discounts codes. They state the Freshstart accounts do not allow promo codes, but I am not trying to use the Freshstart account for the purchase. Something is definitely wrong with this business strategy. Customers are being scammed by not being allowed to receive merchandise at reduced cost.

I am being harassed by this company for payment before payment is even due. They call my home through 1-800-service everyday 2-3 times a day if I don't answer. When I did get home and answer the call, they said it was a courtesy call and that it would continue to call me until payment was made. Mind you, my payment isn't due for 4 days and I'm not late. When I called in, I explained to the first woman what I was calling for and she was rude right off the bat, refusing to give me her name and employee number. I asked for a supervisor, and was told there wasn't one available but someone would call me back within 48 hours.
Within 1 hour, a supervisor called me back. He also refused to give me his employee number and refused to repeat his name. I said that I wanted to be removed from the 1800 service courtesy call list because I already receive emails and monthly bills that I did not need this service calling my home everyday until 9:00 pm to remind me a due date was coming. He said he would remove my name and number if he felt like it, then yelled at me saying that I was a ** and hung up. I called back and found out his name was Greg within the payment department and asked to speak to a different supervisor and Linda with employee number ** said that I was out of luck and the best she could do is transfer me to customer service and if I didn't like that, I could go to the website and figure it out from there.
When i asked for the CEO's name, I was refused the information, so I googled it. I am currently searching for his email address within the company to log my complaint about the poor service offered to the customers. This company does nothing but harass its costumers, lie, and mess up payments then refuse to fix the issue or accept responsibility for their actions. I would like assistance in fixing this matter as I am a frustrated customer. Thank you.

I am a new customer with Fingerhut and I am very disappointed in their business practices. I received my first e-mail statement with a payment due date within a couple of weeks. I tried to contact the company to discuss changing my due date and discovered there is no actual contact number. The phone number given is a menu that offers no actual live representative. Online, the same thing exists. There is no way to talk to an actual representative and their 'customer forum' isn't a forum at all, only information and FAQs. I am a bit nervous about dealing with this company and plan on cancelling my account after it is paid off.

On 1110/27/2011, I made my monthly payment on the due date for $100. My actual payment was only $77.32 but I always pay $100. When checking my email for a confirmation, I found four confirmations. I immediately went back into the payment screen and deleted 3 of the 4 payments. Checked my account on 10/29 and found that $100 had been credited to my account and that my balance was $1555.71 with available credit of $694.
On 10/31, a check of my bank account showed that all 4 payments had been deducted, for a total of $400. I immediately contacted Fingerhut and requested a return of the $300 they had taken erroneously. Mind you, they had still only credited one payment to my account. The representative informed me I would have to file a form with my bank to get the money returned. I did this on 11/1 and my bank had me sign 3 forms, one for each $100 payment. I asked the bank if I would be charged anything for this request and was told there would be no charges to me. The $300 was returned to my account immediately and I noted that on 11/3 it showed on my statement Fingerhut, $100.
Two days later, I began getting phone calls from Fingerhut about my payment. What the heck. So I checked my account, the balance was now $1879, from $1555.71 to $1879. So I started checking around the site and found that they had charged the $300 to my account. What? I contacted the finance department and was told by the operator that he would have to send it to the research department and to wait 48hours for resolution. He also said that he had never seen that happen before.
A check of my account two days later showed that they had reversed the $300 charge but now my account balance was $1579. Again, it should have been $1555.71 and I no longer have any available credit. I received an email on 11/8 saying my payment had been received. Again, all I can say is what. I made the payment on 10/27, on time, showing it made on 11/8, makes my payment late which has fees and interest consequences.
Despite contacting them several times for this matter, they have yet to show good faith and make it right. I cautioned anyone thinking of using Fingerhut to run the other way. I made this months payment on 11/25/11 which they readily accepted but refused an order attempted on 11/26/11. I find their business practices deplorable at best.

I had my son start building credit by using Fingerhut. His only purchase was an MP3 player which cost around $70.00. He's been making his payments regularly and sending in on time as soon as the bill arrives.
A few months down the road, he noticed his bill was much higher than the last. Apparently, an order was placed for an item from a second party called "Just For Me" for some man’s cologne, which cost an additional $65.00 and made his bill over $100. So we contacted Fingerhut. They then told us we needed to contact the company "Just For Me," which the product came from. So we did. They were kind to my son and gave him a cancellation number as well as a confirmation number, which we sent off to Fingerhut.
We received the bill, which showed $35.00 was credited to my son’s account. But it still shows a balance of $60 even though his balance should only be $25. We pulled out all my son’s statements, which I've been having my son do to keep account for everything he purchases. We typed up our own statement, showing Fingerhut in detail the amount of his purchase. We explained to them that the mistaken purchase was actually charged at $65.00, not the $35 which was refunded. They said it wasn't their problem. My son now should be owing $18 on his Fingerhut bill, but it's still showing a balance of $65.
I can tell you right now, in my opinion, Fingerhut is a rip-off for everyone. My son is just starting out building his credit. Fingerhut is the type of company who ruins the credit for those who are trying to make good. So in my opinion, don't buy Fingerhut because it will put you in a finger-rut.

I ordered a table and stools from your company about 8 months ago. I placed $280.00 on the Fingerhut credit card and paid $56.00 cash. It took 7 months for Fingerhut to make the necessary arrangements for me to return the table. I called customer service approximately 2 weeks after receiving the table to inform Fingerhut that the table was damaged. The customer service representative made arrangements for the table to be exchanged. He informed me that I will receive paper work in the mail so I could return the table once they receive the table the replacement table would be sent. After a few weeks of not receiving the paper work I contacted customer service again. The representative told me that paperwork was sent and wait a few more days. I waited a few weeks for the paperwork.
Since I did not receive it, I called again and they requested the paperwork to be sent again. This time I informed the customer service rep. I no longer want the table to change the request to a return only. After a few months from the initial contact to return the table, I finally received the paperwork required to mail the table. Once I got the label I contacted customer service to inform them that I received the paperwork and to make arrangements to have the box picked up. The customer service rep. informed me that FedEx would not pick up the box that I needed to drop off the box at the post office.
I had informed the customer service rep that my car was not big enough to transport the box. I was new to the area and did not know anyone that would be able to take the box to the post office. Several weeks later a co-worker’s son agreed to help me drop off the box when he returned home. I contacted customer service to inform them of what was going on. During this time I had been also receiving collection calls which I was giving them the same information. My co-worker's son and I went to the post office to return the box which I was informed that the post office could not accept the box because it weighted too much, the box came home with me. The same day I contacted customer service again to inform them that the post office would not accept the box.
The customer service rep now instructed me to drop of the box at FedEx. I live in the country, the nearest FedEx location is over 50 miles away. I would need to make arrangements again for someone to take the box and that I would not know how long it would take. The customer service rep made the arrangements to have the box picked up at me house and stopped all reporting. Prior to this all the other customer service rep had informed me that this was not an option—I would need to drop it off. From this point it took another few months to receive the label then make the arrangements with FedEx and to request a day off, so I was here when they picked up the box. I received a call from the collection department to inform me I owed $180.00 for late fees and interest for the last 8 months. At this time I was also informed that I owed for the initial shipping.
The initial amount I paid in cash was kept for the shipping of the table but I still owe for all the late fees on the account and the interest on the account. Why would I make payments for something I was not going to keep and contacted Fingerhut prior to the 1st payment being due? During all of this Fingerhut was reporting derogatory on my credit report. I applied to refinance my home to lower the interest rate and my payments to find out I was denied because of the derogatory reported by Fingerhut. I want all the derogatory reported on my credit report immediately, all of the late fees and interest reversed off my account immediately. At this point if I receive any more collection calls, I will consider this harassment. Please feel free to contact me at any time concerning this matter.

Problem was my account did have far more than sufficient funds Fingerhut never submitted, presented or processed my payments to the bank. This was confirmed by Metabank. I'm ready to sue Fingerhut into the stoneage!

We have been customers of Fingerhut for quite a few years. On around June of this year, we started having a minor dispute over payments for merchandise, since that time money orders sent from our household to the company have not been received by them, so they claim. Which is odd since we never had this problem in all the years prior to this incident, and all other money orders sent out to other company which is about a dozen others a month. All arrive at their destinations without a problem. Fingerhut claims that they didn't receive one from me a couple of months ago, and I had to pay late fees. Now strangely enough, they are claiming that they didn't receive one from Geraldine ** who also resides in this household, and they never even contacted her until the next billing period so late fees are added on again. I don't know if this is a way to get revenge on customers who they are not pleased with, and a way to build up extra late fees or what.

I sent a payment last month and they sent me a letter with my bill this month saying that they did not receive my payment. I know that I sent them a payment because I have a receipt to prove it! Fingerhut could have called me or sent me an email to let me know that they did not get my payment, but they did not. And then, they put late fees and other fees on my bill without even letting me know that they were going to do it! I have been a good customer with them for years. I was sending my payments in on time, never having any late fees until now, and always sending in more than what my minimum payment was. Fingerhut has lost a good customer because after I get them paid off, I will never order from them again!

Fingerhut promotes themselves in marketing as they will rebuild your credit. In February 2010, they changed from Fingerhut to Fingerhut/MetaBank. They closed all accounts and reported on everyone’s credit report as a closed account. They opened new accounts for each person at the same time. I inquired and they stated, "It was a company decision to change backend processors." However, this is lowering people's credit scores, not inline with their let’s-help-your-credit-score. I am turning this over to the police, and please send me a list of everything Fingerhut says I bought and the address where it was delivered to as it never came here. About 10 years ago, I opened an account at Fingerhut, in which we purchased a number of items the first year. I tried to close it out and pay off the account in full. I paid the balance they claimed was owed to them. About two years later, when I was trying to buy a home, it showed up on my credit report as paid. I sent that. They said I owed them again and was told it was finally over. Two years later, it showed on my credit report as unpaid and charged off. I contacted the collection company involved. They researched it and told us the account had been settled.
I just received a notice from another collection company for another bill of $379.95 which they say would be reduced to $189.96 if I pay this month. I closed this account out at least 8 years ago. This is the most fraudulent company I have ever been involved with! Do not buy from them. I am suing them at the present for what they have put on my credit report.

Upon using the vacuum, dirt came out of the cloth bag that holds the micro filter bag. Upon examination, I found that the piece that holds the inside bag on had just fallen off and filled the cloth bag with dirt. Upon contacting Fingerhut, the associate told me there was nothing he could do. I asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for 20 minutes. A man, Robert, finally answered and stated he was the manager.
He also stated there was nothing he could do. I asked for his last name and the name and e-mail of the CEO of the company. He refused saying he could not give out this info. I told him to repeat himself while I recorded the conversation. only then did he give his last name. I had to ask three more times for the name of the CEO. He finally said Brian *** but would give me no way to contact him. I was a faithful customer for 20 years, always paid my merchandise off early and have spent thousands with them. Robert *** was rude and uncaring as well as evasive about company contact info. I will never order from them again and will tell all I know to beware. You would think that in this economy, a company would respect those still spending and replace poor product. So I called customer service and was told that I was making the payments too soon. I get paid every 3rd of the month from Social Security and that is when I pay all of my bills. The due date is the 6th of every month. I started laughing because I have never heard of such a thing. You would think that a company would appreciate early payment.
So, the payments have never been late; they have over charged on late fees balance subject to interest rate is $226.94, a great reason to pay early. So I told them to immediately close the account and return the late fees. She said they couldn't. I am astonished. In today's economy, making payments early should be a welcome; however, I am being punished with the outrageous late fees. I have no idea as to what to do. They won't close my account, nor return the late fees, all because I make payments too early. Please help!

In February, 2010, I ordered an iPod from Fingerhut. I checked the tracking number provided and it stated that the item had been delivered. I was concerned though, because it also stated that the item did not require a signature. The apartment complex I live in is notorious for losing, misplacing and outright stealing packages. My own receipt of packages have been spotty, so I checked delivery status daily. Usually, packages are left in care of the rental office and when I spoke with them on multiple occasions, they stated that they did not have a package for me. Further, that no packages was delivered at the time stated on the tracking receipt. Phone calls were then made to the post office that serves my area. I had to wait a day or two. After that time, I received a phone call stating the carrier did in fact deliver the package to the rental office.
I contacted Fingerhut multiple times for resolution. Customer service reps were indifferent. Response times via the contact form on their website and email were slow, if any response was received at all. I was sent a claim form to fill out, which I filled and returned in the allotted time frame. No response. I contacted them again via email, to ask what had happened, was sent another copy of the same form I had already previously sent.
Today (June 16, 2010), I received a written response of their "investigation", which from the looks of things, appears to be punching in the tracking number and sending me a print out, stating that because the item was listed as being delivered to my address, their job was done and that the charges would remain on my account. To date, I have not received any package from Fingerhut and I am being expected to pay $333 for an item that I never received and they have pretty much refused to take any sort of responsibility on their end. The letter says that I have to provide a police report (Is this necessary? This is a postal matter, shouldn't it go through them?) if I want to dispute this claim. Because they have in essence, rejected my claim, I still have a charge of $333 and some change. So, I will be paying for this item twice now, since after not receiving the item, I purchased it at the local Apple store. So all in all, I will be out of pocket for close to $800.

About 4 years ago, I had to file for bankruptcy. I was doing okay paying my bills on time. But just like a lot of other people, when the recession hit, so did hard times. The last thing I wanted to do was to file for bankruptcy, but realized that I had no choice. I contacted a law firm who took my case and I did as I was instructed; include every creditor that I owed money to in the filing. Starting with a chapter 13, things seemed to start looking up.
But then I got hit with another issue in which money was going to be tight again, tighter than before. I contacted the bankruptcy attorney and advised them of my situation, in which they promptly gave me another choice, that being filing under chapter 7 for the remaining months (not years) that I had. Paying the attorney was not going to be easy, but by God's grace, we just made it and the courts (Fingerhut), not me, granted the petition.
My case was closed as of mid last year and I was advised to be careful for the sharks that would be looking for people that are trying to rebuild their credit. I did not think about trying to apply for another card. I have this funny thing about running up credit again, not to mention using the other taxpayers' money to be bailed out. My mistake was helping out people who really needed it without any regards to myself and as a result, put myself in debt. That will never happen again. But anyway, Fingerhut sent my husband a catalog and gave him a line of credit. I remembered that I wanted to make sure that all of my accounts were closed completely before some identify theft nutcase would try to get into my business and use that as a tool to try to steal my identity.
Well sure enough, my account was still open and surprise, surprise. There was a balance due that the reps at Fingerhut said that I owed. I'm talking about the department that handles the late payments and collection, the ones where the bank officials actually call you up. Well during the time of my bankruptcy, not one bank from Fingerhut called me. But now, they are saying that they cannot close down my account because I still have a large balance remaining and until I pay it, they were going to keep my case open. They told me that since they are not allowed to send me a bill (con game here), I would have to send them a money order via snail mail. I cannot, under no circumstances, pay online or else they (Fingerhut) would get in trouble nor can they ask me to make the payment. I have to do it voluntarily (scam here).
Until I pay this hefty sum, I can forget about even trying to start fresh for this will always be on my record until I pay up. Well, I contacted the bankruptcy law firm and presented to them this situation. Their records show, same as all three credit bureaus, that Fingerhut was in fact, included in the bankruptcy and according to their records (as well as my receipts, copies of my credit report from last year which I got in Sept., and of course, the three credit bureaus), I owe Fingerhut nothing. Therefore (I'm sure that there are employees at Fingerhut who are scanning these complaints), I have started the process of doing whatever I can and need to do to get Fingerhut to close down my account, whatever it takes. Even if it means contacting the News Channels to let them know what a sneaky game that Fingerhut is trying to play with me.
I will not put up with being played just because the powers that be in Fingerhut doesn't like losing money to a bankruptcy filing and the powers that they will be hearing from me and attorneys if they continue to be unwilling to cooperate with the courts who told me and showed me that my case was wiped completely clean. Nice try Fingerhut, but I am so onto your little game.

As someone who knows Fingerhut first hand as an ex-employee you probably spoke with before, the saying there are always two sides to every story defiantly applies to this company. I'm not going to deny anyone's stories or allegations previously posted about Fingerhut, but people exaggerate their problems out of anger, and frustration, towards the company for their faults, just by reading through the first few pages of the complaints. I can assure most people that most of these issues are self inflicted, as far as it goes for billing and policy terms and agreements. On the other hand, some items sold have issues, because of manufacturer's recalls or defectiveness, which Fingerhut finds out later, after they already sold the product out of the catalogs and further discontinue items. Opt yourself out from all mailing list, not just Fingerhut. They have other shared list. They sell your information. The only person who can remove you from it, is you, the customer. You specifically have to say every list there is. Make it clear that you don't want any information shared.
Do not respond to any promotions or offerings from companies affiliated with Fingerhut. They will bill your account, because they offered you something for free, and you filled it out, but ignored the fact in plain writing. It states you have 30 days to cancel, otherwise, you're in a service program, which will bill your account . People usually fill about 3 to 4 of these forms out, and return them, and get raped on their bills for a small significant free offering, without reading the small print on the back.
That's your fault (they claim they never agreed, but legally, they cannot bill you unless the whole form is complete)! If you don't receive your statement, call. They will note it, and have a record. They have no way of knowing if the mail they send you actually gets there, nor should they blame the post office for that one. If you don't, people always call about missing statements, after they get the late charge, and account is already past due (sorry not their fault either, you neglected to contact and notify them about the issue).
Open your box as soon as you get your package. It may be broken or damaged. Take a look to see if everything is in good shape (FedEx is a little rough on the shipping). Don't wait too long. Like other businesses, time is limited on the return policy. Fingerhut actually gives you 30 days to use and try it first, and anywhere from 90-180 to return for damages and defects (better than any other company), and send it back. You are responsible for the shipping. It cost them money to send it to you doesn't it? Ask customer service your questions. People will call saying Ali Bujumbura Mohamed Abdul told them their problem is resolved, for whatever reasons, people on order line like to help, but don't know how to. Call their customer service line there in America. Some do speak with accents. Oh well, it is the year 2010.
When debt collectors call, work with them. At least make arrangements for something. You're financially responsible. Remember, that there's no other way for them, because it is on credit. I know it's easy to have a $1,000 credit limit, and want to go all out on shopping, because it's tempting to do. Be careful. Order less, and pay more. In the long run, you're saving yourself, even if you can only afford one thing at a time. If you can't make your payments, the last thing you want is late fees and high interest charges on a big balance. On top of all the other problems that occur in your life, don't make it harder on yourself, because it went to collections.
Don't bother or threaten them with lawyers. They have them too. Your best bet is Better Business Bureau. They can help you if you have legitimate claims. Buy warranties when offered. If the item is over $200, or electronics, or something you may think that if it breaks, who cares, don't get a warranty! Things will, and do break. Extended warranties are not much, and will pay for itself, when that new item breaks, and they replace it for you. Remember, Fingerhut sells items, they do not make them.
Track your items when shipped, no signatures required. Packages can be left at your door. If you're in a bad location, put two and two together, when stuff goes missing. Also, think before you buy (will this shoe fit? Is that the color you want? Will this fit the measurements? What's included in the package, and what comes separately). Yes, they have a 30 day trial period, but you have to pay to send something back, unless it's broken. It saves you from shipping and handling!
Preapprovals mean you must be approved for the credit first. Just because you have the money, it does not mean you are automatically approved. A word to the wise, don't get mad of you can't be approved. Would you give your money to someone who you suspect will not pay (like your drunk mother-in-law)? For those of you who have been dumped on, you have every right to be mad at Fingerhut rightfully as a customer, because you might have gotten the short end of the stick. They're not the only company who can ** you.
Many companies are worse than they are (cellphones, Microsoft, cable, etc). They will help you if you're in good standing with them, and go out of their way (they can only do so much, until at which point, they cannot help if it's not their fault. When they know it's their fault, they will fix it), and are better than some other companies, no questions asked. They offer good products, as well at the convenient options of payments. Just be wise. Ask probing questions, and read the catalog policy and terms, before signing up, to better prepare yourself with doing business with them. People who do not bother even looking at that, should not even be able to buy. The rules are the rules in the policy terms.
It's as simple as this; if you don't know what you're getting yourself into, it's best that you keep yourself out of it! People always agree to the terms, without even knowing the effects it may have. If you are not able to make payments, Fingerhut will help you, but people neglect to pay their bills, because of the issues they have with the company, and they get in trouble with their credit.

I waited until the 17th to see if the remainder of my order would arrive. It didn't and I called customer service. They showed all items as having been shipped in one box and wanted me to double check that I didn't overlook the missing items in the box; that being a giant stand for a keyboard and a bench seat as well as two seven-piece harmonica sets and two music stands. They said they'd reship those three items immediately and would also be sending out an affidavit for me to sign, swearing that I only received three of the six items. I then received another box containing two music stands and the harmonica sets; still no keyboard stand or bench seat.

I don't want it and it's too late. And I asked how they could mess up my order so badly. And what about that licked up Butter Finger wrapper? Do they hire drunks off the street to do their packing? Do they think we're drunk or stupid to not notice there's a scam going on here?
I wasn't quite as alarmed until I stumbled upon this site with similar complaints of orders arriving in undisturbed packaging, only to receive things they didn't order or items were missing. I can't wait to see the bill and whatever else is coming down the pike. I did ask why they'd bill my account for the total when it didn't all ship, and she said they showed it did all ship out. Who's on first base? Who. Yeah, who's on first base? Who.

Then they had the nerve to send me an email of the order I placed with them for me to view it. That's what upsets me. That's a reminder that I'm not good enough for them.

I had an account with Fingerhut for a few years and I tried to order Christmas gifts and was told I do not have an account. My daughter was sent a book about 2 months ago and told she was preapproved. She made an order for $170.96, a vacuum cleaner and hair clippers. They were sent to her. She was told that she was preapproved. In speaking to the person over the phone, I realized that they gave my account to my daughter. My bill was changed to her name without my consent. Now today I get a bill with late fees and her order was added to my account. I will pay my bill but not hers and I will not collect from her. I need Fingerhut to correct their mistake and remove the now $178.65 plus $24.90 late fee from my bill. I tried to pay and was told I did not have an account and they were unable to speak to me.

They have cancelled my order and told me that it will take 60 days to return my money. I am already overdrawn on my account. I can't wait 60 days to receive my money back.

The credit collection guy, Gary, is telling me I have to take care of it or make payment by phone or he will put it down as payment refusal. I told him, "It's not my bill; it's in my wife's name and I have nothing to do with it." He kept insisting and I said, "You had better quit harassing me or I will call a lawyer and we will see if you're right about harassing me when it's not my bill." He kept on and on, so I called a lawyer who I haven't heard from yet and then I found this complaint form. It's not my bill and I told him I will not pay it and to contact my wife. If my wife pays or doesn't pay, I have no control over that. Then I said, "Contact her and quit harassing me," and I hung up.

After a few days, they contacted me again about payment due and again, I told them I don't have the ring and I will not make any payments on something I don't have. They put me on hold. When they came back, they told me that the ring was sent back to the manufacturer. Why? I don't know. I didn't hear from until tonight. They called and mentioned about payments and again, I told them no ring, no payment. I also told them I'm cancelling my order and they lost me as a customer. I purchased a Norton virus protection for my desktop computer. Once I received it, my computer had already had a virus, so I unhooked everything. I was preparing to send the virus protection back. I found the return slip and saw that the 30 days was almost up. So I called on Tuesday 7/7/2009, to inform the representative that I was just making sure that the time hadn't expired to send it back. The representative explained to me that if the product was opened, that I couldn't return it. I told him that it was not opened because my computer already had a virus so it was unplugged. He explained to me that I could still put the virus protection on the computer and that I didn't need to log on to the internet. I told him okay then I will try it.
While trying to install the program, it would only let me get to a certain point because I have to log onto the computer. I kept trying for a long period of time and would not let me go any farther without internet access. I called Fingerhut back and tried to explain to them the problem that I was having and of course, since the box is now opened, there is nothing that they can do. I asked if I could please speak to a supervisor. Because after 15 days, I won't be able to install the program at all and I don't have anything to install it on. The representative told me that the supervisors were off and that they would give me a call tomorrow which was Wednesday 7/9/2009.
I never received such a call. I called this morning and of course, there is nothing that they can do for me. So, I am out of about $75.00 because the program is opened, because I believed what one of their representatives told me and after the 15 days, the program will no longer be able to be downloaded on anything. I don't have an extra computer and if I did, I am not sure if it would work since I have already put in the numbers on my computer at home. I don't care if I don't get anything out of this. I just don't like the fact of how it was done.
The supervisor also said that they are not technicians. Well, that is something she should be telling her employees because I had felt like the employee knew what he was talking about or else I wouldn't have tried it. They kept trying to explain about the program being opened. I am fully aware that you are not allowed to open a software and then return it. Initially, the software wasn't opened until I fell for one of the representative’s tall tales. I am stuck with a software that I can't do anything with. At least, if it didn't expire after 15 days of trying, I could have it later to install on my computer once I have the money to put it in the shop. Since I am the sole bread winner in the family right now and since my husband has not been working, putting the computer in the shop is not a priority right now.

Well, this lovely company is a total joke. I ordered a fondue set and a pond from them in August of 2008 never received my products. So in September, I emailed them asking where my items were because I was getting billed already and still had no products. They said I received them! I was like no, I did not so I emailed them back and they sent a email to contact customer service. As I was getting ready to contact them, they called me. Go figure. So I had to deal with a complete moron who was rude. I explained I never got anything. He then tells me they were delivered so I said where were they delivered because I do not have any of my items so please explain where they are at. He tells me to check my back door because if they are not at the front door, they must have been left in the back. I started laughing and said, "Yeah, I would love to see the UPS guy jump my fence with three large dogs in the backyard. Are you kidding me?" He got rude with me and said he will not be talking me to like that and he hung up on me!
So the calls have been non-stop all day long, all night long, so early in the morning and on the weekends. It is insane. I explained and get nowhere. So back in the middle of October, I come home from work and saw an open package on my front lawn. It's the fondue set, broken! So of course, they called me looking for payment. I said, "I finally received my broken fondue set. What are you going to do about it?" They stated, "Nothing but you need to make a payment." I said, "I have to pay for that and you won't do anything about it?" They said, "No because it has been three months and no payment." I was ** to put it nicely. Then they proceeded to let me know that once I give my credit card number to them, they will charge for the other item per month until paid for. I said, "Hell, no. I will not pay anything until I get an answer on where my pond is at!" So I emailed and emailed and kept on emailing plus talking to these people only to repeat myself numerous times about this situation. I even asked the neighbors if they saw or had my packages and of course, no they didn't.
Now, I get a call from the collection department to settle so I explained the situation yet again only for her to tell me they have no record of them talking to me! I am just livid. I said, "Are you kidding me? You people call everyday all day and there is no record of it? Come on!" So she tells me she can settle with me. I said, "Are you kidding me? I am paying for something I never received and you guys screwed up and didn't write anything in your stupid little computers?" The lady from the collection Dept said she will work with me and I said, "Oh how sweet that is, considering I have been battling this since September of 2008." I said it isn't working with me that is the problem. I can pay for the items. The problem is I never got them! Well I got the fondue set finally three months later broken. So I said, "I will never shop with Fingerhut ever again." She chuckles and says, "Well, I am sorry but you will not be able to shop with us again." All I can say is this company is a joke. Their customer service reps are a joke. They are just plain rude and stupid. Beware shopping with this place and yes, I just got stuck paying for a broken fondue set and no pond! First of all, their customer service voicemail system is designed so that you cannot reach someone without a lot of effort and prompts. The best way is not punch in anything when asked for information. Once getting connected, you are likely to receive an arrogant or rude response. I contacted Fingerhut twice in the past and again today to ask them to remove my name from their phone call solicitation list. I made the mistake of opening an account with them last year. Since then, their phone calls are coming several times a week; they send multiple emails weekly, and my mailbox is filled with catalogs. I had two catalogs delivered in one day, seven in a 10-day period in November.
I have called their customer service department on three separate occasions, each time politely asking them to drop my name from their phone call lists. I am first asked why someone from their business called me. They must be trained to ask this and know that most of the time, the customer is so annoyed at the phone call that they have either hung up or not allowed the person calling to state why they were calling. Next when you don't supply this information, they claim say, "Are you sure it was Fingerhut?" Then you are forced to verify it while they question your sanity.
This morning, I asked who was calling when someone asked to speak to me by name and they said it was Fingerhut. The phone number on my caller ID is 1-866-466-6330. The caller said that they were Credit Watchman and were a service of Fingerhut. They attempted to sell me credit card protection services in the past. I have no idea what they are selling in the most recent calls because I politely tell them I am not interested in speaking with them further. I have always been polite but it is getting difficult. By the way, their customer service department refuses to provide a supervisor and instead says that they will have someone call me back in 24-48 hours.
Although not part of this complaint, consumers should also know that Fingerhut charges extremely high rates of interest on balances on their credit card - in my case, I read that it was almost 30%. Luckily, the one purchase I made with them was paid for in full the same day that the bill arrived for it, but consumers should read their credit application carefully. Most of their items can be found cheaper elsewhere. They also mislead people in their ads by placing the lowest minimum payment a month under the descriptions in their catalog while the actual cost of the item is in small print. You can look at a toaster, for example, and it will say in big letter, only $6.99; yet underneath that in small print is the actual cost of $29.99 (it is a $6.99 minimum payment that catches your eye first).
Is there anyone I can complain to? Obviously since I have a business relationship with them, the Do Not Call List does not apply. They are seriously affecting my health. I am often up all night due to the pain of my disability, and they wake me up every morning. I do not want to have to take my phone off the hook since I may need it quickly in an emergency, and I have several elderly relatives that may need to call for an emergency. Today, I am so aggravated that I cannot get back to sleep and will drag myself along all day long. A person should not have their privacy invaded this way when they have asked a company not to call.
