Square has zero customer service. This company has by far the worst customer service I've dealt with in any field (this includes late night fast good customer service). I didn't use their system much but kept it for convenience. One customer had an issue with her card's zip (they're moving and husband changed zip to new address without telling wife). The payment went through but square locked the account for 2 weeks. I spent hours on the phone just to get the run around with promises of call backs that never happened.
Problem number one is you need a pass code just to be able to call in. Then you sit on hold for at least 30 minutes each call to get in touch with account security just to never get called back. I called them after they missed their promised 24-48hr deadline. I sit on hold for 40 minutes, get told that I will get a return call which never happened, but I get an email 2 hours later asking for more information which there wasn't any more to give. In square's security check they want 3 months of bank statements. I should have refunded and deleted it then.
The last straw was after 2 weeks of the calls on the final day I was told I would get called back after 3 hours of waiting. I called, wasted 45 minutes to be hung up on. I tried calling them back and I get sent to voice-mail even though they were open. I issued a refund to the customer WHILE SHE STILL HAS THE CAR SHE PURCHASED FROM ME. Then square decides to send an email saying they are deactivating my account with zero explanation. The absolute worst customer service known to man. Them deactivating my account saved me the trouble of doing this. This doesn't include them trying to take 90 dollars on the purchase. This company is horrendous.

I am a new startup small business with an online presence. I've spent thousands of dollars in getting setup. I've trusted Square for my merchant services needs, domain and web based products and not to mention with my financial information and funds. This was a big mistake on my end. After three full weeks of getting setup I received an e-mail from Square informing me that my Square account will be deactivated and ALL of my business's funds will be placed on hold for 90 DAYS. The e-mail did not include an explanation as to why Square made the decision to deactivate my account.
My domain and online platform is still registered with Square and I cannot reach Square by phone or e-mail to get a proper explanation. Not to mention Square is still collecting payments from my customers online and I have no access to my website or payments collected. Trusting Square was the worst decision I have ever made for my business. I have literally lost thousands of dollars and I am continuing to lose money with no response or resolution from Square. Please stay away from Square if you are a startup small business.

2. We do not sell CBD on their platform or using square payment gateway.
Still we submitted what they requested, which were certificates of analysis. They still held our money from spa services. After several phone calls, they then said we need to submit our bank activities for the last 3 months. No one should share business confidentiality (financial health, business partners, transactions all in your bank statements) to anyone who could use your information to develop strategies against you or getting insight into a certain industry. So who wants to join a class action lawsuit?

I want to tell everyone that is thinking about using Square DONT DO IT. These people will suspend your account for no reason and not tell you. Not one bad mark on mine but they still want keep my money. I sent in all the paperwork. They said that the CC transaction was high risk for fraud, what the clowns don't know is that the customer they called a Fraudster has more money than them. I am guessing she's my neighbor for years. I am very offended by how they handled it and put a picture on me and my neighbor. I repeat don't use them if you have any sense.

Please do your homework and research other options before enrolling with this company. It may be quick to signup for an account but they don't actually verify anything for weeks or months so you will be in for a shock when they hold your money for all those weeks and months or block your bank transfers after you've already been verified and approved. We had been with them for over a year with all the necessary documentation submitted, EIN, Articles of Incorporation, Banking History, etc. and our account was in good standing (ie sales, chargebacks, refunds, etc.) when they deactivated our bank transfers without warning or any communication. They did not respond to email, telephone or even chat messages.
When we finally did get a response weeks later, they said they made a mistake on their end and would fix everything. The next day our account was deactivated and they are still holding all of our money without a reason or a reply. Don't believe a single word they say. They don't have enough human staff to run the company or communicate and seem to rely completely on technology, which we all know isn't perfect by any means. Square will waste your time when there are other companies out there that will work with you instead of against you. Oh and they will hike your rates up arbitrarily too as well as upsell all sorts of crap services that you don't really need.

I am a new business that started during COVID. I got Square, what a mistake. My FIRST transaction they took my money. They said I needed to provide my EIN number and Articles of Incorporation. I am a Sole Proprietor. I don't need a EIN. I use my social. I don't have Articles of Incorporation because I am a sole proprietor. I DID provide my State Registration of taxation. I was told the issue is closed. I lost $850.00. This business has an unheard of amount of complaints. They have had lawsuits. And they are still in business. They operate by email, they don't respond. Do NOT use this company. Do your research first.

I purchased two square readers for $20.00 plus tax in hopes they would honor their free square reader promise, but they did not! This company tricks you into making the purchase first. Second, you must activate your account which will provide your business with the ability to accept payments from your customers by visa, mc, and Amex, but there is a catch! You must enter your business bank information and verify identity, etc. I tried to verify a number of times only to be told, they will not be able to approve an application.
This Business then tells you "but you can still use our check, and send a link service to accept payments!" Well the whole point of the reader is to process cards! I tried to cancel the account. They won't allow! I tried to deactivate the account! They won't allow! I tried to delete my bank account and information and they won't allow! I didn't purchase a subscription and I don't want your square reader that doesn't do what its supposed to do! Don't buy!

Square, well where to start, they lie, they steal and there is no one available to speak with. Stay away from these people and this company, they have no integrity and will arbitrarily close your account and hold your funds for an undetermined amount of time. I have been dealing with this company for 4 months. 3 of which have been to get them to release $600 that they just held.
So in my opinion here is the scam, you sign up with them, they suspend your account for **, hold your money for 90+ days and there is no one to complain to because their customer service is non existent and the only recourse you have is consumer affairs, BBB and the California AG's office. So let's say they have 10,000 accounts and we know they have much more than that and they hold "Suspend" with $500 in each one that's $5,000,000 that they have access to funding them through interest rates etc. These cats are stealing your money and making money on your stolen money. DO NOT SIGN UP with these crooks. It's a proven fact what their scam is, look at the San Francisco BBB reviews and their google reviews it will tell you the same thing, this company is criminal in my opinion and should be avoided at all cost and prosecuted by law enforcement!

But I didn't get any noticeable info on their website about the fee! Also, at least for a such large amount of fee, they should pop up something about the fee before proceeding the transaction! Had Square for almost 2 years no problem until I stopped getting bank deposits. Went online and it said they need documents. I cannot submit them online, and square won't even tell me what documents they even want or how to give it to them. I can only use email support, they refuse to give me chat or phone support. The only reply I get is "please submit more documents to verify your business through your online dashboard. If you would rather not submit documents consider refunding your customers". The same customers that received their products already, and again I have been with them 2 years, and now they have to validate? Why wait so long.... Oh that's right Jack Dorsey (Yes he's involved in square) would rather steal from American companies. Only thing I can think of because they refuse to tell me what they want, or how to give it to them, seems like something an honest company would tell you. RUN AND USE A DIFFERENT COMPANY.

Some time ago Square purchased the Weebly platform. Square online store users were migrated over to the Weebly platform. What I found in my experience is a partially functional website platform with poor SEO capabilities. The Square/Weebly users have a dashboard to add in their products, description and pricing. But NO ability to add H Tags to pages. None. Their code injector, Embed Code Section has a bug that corrupts any properly written syntax code after publishing. I have spent almost half a year with Square tech support with no resolution. I am not permitted to talk to advance tech support and keep getting told that my case would be elevated countless time. There are other Square Online store users with the same complaint. Bing Webmaster confirms what I am saying as well. I don't recommend the Square/Weebly Online store. I will be changing over soon. There are other platform with better tech support with fully functioning SEO capabilities.

In September 2020 my company completed an Artful Bachelorette Party for my client. The client was sent photos for her event and wrote a 5 star review and thank you note praising my company for a great event. In October 2020 we were notified from Square that a dispute had been raised: "Customer claimed credit was owed." We called the client and she denied raising any disputes, stated she had a great experience with us and had no idea what that was about.
In November 2020 I responded to the dispute thinking it was an administration error. I explained that this client received a full two hour live figure drawing class in September. The client was very happy and left us a great review. We contacted her today and she said that this dispute is a mistake and she never ordered it. I assumed that the $1,109.12 would be credited back to me when a human took a look and would see the error and fix it. In December 2020 Square said that the dispute had gone in the client's favor. I again contact the client, she again denied the claim and also said she has not received a credit/refund and sent screenshots showing her bank statements showing that she had no disputes open in 2020.
In December, January and February I had many phone calls and emails with my Square account manager who agreed that there must be a mistake. I asked her to escalate the dispute and to get a manager and/or someone from the Disputes department to take a better look and get back to me on where the money is. To this date March 1st, I still have no answers on this. There has been no transparency. I'm down $1,109.22. The client claims that they never received the credit so where is the $1,109.22.
Square has been very secretive, unhelpful, and someone has my money and nobody is helping me find it. I have run thousands of events, what if other people started disputing their events after they have had them? It is hard enough being a small business, trying to survive during a pandemic without having to try and fight for money you have rightfully earned. It is also awful that after giving a client a 5 star experience I had to taint it by constantly asking her if she disputed me and asking her to prove that she didn't. Very embarrassing and tarnishing for my brand. I'm hoping this doesn't happen to anybody else.

The representative informed us that an account was opened almost 10 years prior with charge backs. She has an ex that is a small time thief that opened a few accounts in her name so we knew where it came from. We tried working with the representative but all they wanted us to do was verbally accept responsibility for the charges like a debt collector which we knew not to do. They refused to provide the account information even through my gf verified her identity and refused to even consider looking into the ex whom we know did it. We even provided contact information that they can trace but they were more interested in getting her to accept the debt (that is easier for them after all). That is horrible customer experience!

He advised me to dispute the charges with my credit card company and get my money back. He also stated he stopped using Square because they were difficult to work with. Meanwhile, I made the dispute and was initially credited the funds. Apparently Square's policy is go dispute any disputes brought against them immediately and automatically no matter what and based off nothing. They advised my credit card company I did receive the furniture, which is completely false.
Also, my friend explained he did not dispute anything and I should have been refunded. BUT because Square it has been 2 months of torture trying to get refunded. Do not trust them, they are lying criminals. I don't know how they can automatically lie and say an item was delivered when it wasn't and dispute a dispute when their client didn't want them to dispute anything. So, I invested into my brand and expanding market share. They recently just cancelled my account. No warning and reason why. The crazy thing is my brand is a marketplace for other brands. 90%+ of them are Square customers, so did they shut them down? No, just me. How does that make sense? It doesn't. Don't fall for their rhetoric that they are here to help small businesses. They are here to rob you blind and keep you small. Since May 8th Square took the money out of my bank account and after that emailed me that they can't provide payroll services for sole proprietorship business without EIN number. They refused to send the money back to my bank account immediately. Square told me it will take 60 days for refund. The 60 days passed long time ago and I have not received refund yet. Their phone lines are all closed and they do not respond to any email. I'm currently 8 months pregnant and this is causing me a great deal of emotional stress and frustration. This money was supposed to help me in the time of need. Also I asked my bank, Chase, to help me with this matter. Square hasn't responded to my claim from chase neither. Please don't trust them with your money.

I Received another email from Square. This one stating that my Square account has not been verified and that the funds will be held. Your bank Verification failed because we were unable to communicate with your bank account. Your funds will remain in Square until your new bank account is verified. For any aspiring CBD businesses out there, or CBD businesses considering switching to Square, please let me save you some time: don't. When you first begin the on-boarding process for Square's CBD merchant site, it seems like it's going to be a quick and easy process. On April 15th I applied with Square to sell my ** farm's CBD products and received this message: We have received a substantial amount of interest, and we are working hard to review applications. At this time, we expect to get in touch with you regarding availability in approximately 2 weeks. We appreciate your patience as we strive to provide all sellers with a great experience.
Then by May 20th, I hadn't heard anything, so after sending several emails with no response, I had to call which was an experience. The person I spoke to on the phone was very nice, but knew nothing of their CBD department, and told me there was no way to access the department by phone, only email. (Which wasn't getting me anywhere). I corresponded with someone from Square named Isiah who assured me at the beginning of the process that it could take up to 20 days to be approved but they would get right on it.
Fast forward to June 26th, where I still haven't been approved, I am getting short, curt almost one word answers from Isiah, as if I have pissed him off with all these emails I'm sending, since you know, we are WELL past 20 days at this point, so I decide to see if there is anyone else in the CBD department who can help me. I get in touch with someone named Brian from that department, who was informative, helpful, and who realized I didn't have all the necessary forms submitted to be approved to sell CBD through Square.
Which is just mind blowing considering I had been calling and emailing since April 15th when I started this process. I get all the requirements needed to Brian...but when I follow up with him, I get an email back saying that he received a redundancy notice and no longer works with Square, and recommends me to...guess who...ISIAH. I go back to corresponding with him, still short curt messages with my questions ignored and nothing more than a sentence of response to live off of. I felt awful for Brian who was let go, because he was actually so helpful. Seems to me like they let go of a useful employee.
It is July 28th....and after submitting all the paperwork.... I still have not received any kind of message about approval from Square. So anyone needing a processor for CBD...I highly recommend eMerchant Broker processing. The customer service is amazing, so responsive, and if you have everything you need and all your paperwork in order, it should be a very speedy process.

Square has no right nor authority to hold our assets that we and other businesses earned with our hard work. The corona shut down hurt us real bad, the first two transactions we ran one for 3500 and one for 2500.00 they kept a third of it in reserve for I dont know how long. We run on a very small profit margin, so on both of these jobs I had to borrow money in order to finish them because of this.
They never told us they were going to do it, or why. I did read on the site they can do it if your sales suddenly change, which they did thanks to the shutdown. I have tried to contact Square but cannot find one single way to contact them. I tried calling and just left on hold. We finally got to open back up and do some work, and thanks go them, instead of getting back on track, I have had to lay off an employee. Square will have you submit all personal informations... Driver License with photo, IRS documents, Social security number, address, phone numbers, bank accounts etc... and then request that you send in invoices and company information of companies you are doing business with. Reluctantly I did, cause I needed to collect payment from my customers via credit cards.
I performed my first (and Only) transactions and Lord and behold, they deactivated my account and would not transfer the money into my bank account. They gave me no reason as to why? I made numerous attempts to contact customer support department, but they would not take my call over the phone. I continued to try. I sent emails from my customer to explain they were doing business with me, and nothing worked. Finally, after weeks and failed attempts to find out why, I gave up and had to refund the money back to my customer. I am now using PayPal business and they have been perfect. PayPal requested important minimum information, verified my company and I was up in business in no time. Used them already for 4 transactions and some of those funds were already transferred into my bank account. PayPal customer Service was excellent.
I gave Square so much personal and private information, and now I'm worried how they will use that information. They never gave me a chance. It was dishonest that they continued to process my customers’ payments while my account was locked. Because of this, every order had to be cancelled and refunded which takes an additional 7 days to get back to the buyer. I only seen this as their sneaky way of collecting people’s funds and having a reason to hold them. I then tried contacting them both by phone and web chat and much to my surprise their systems are set up to ignore any communication with them (except by 48 hour email reply). I was speechless. I lost all 7 sales and customers because of this but couldn't even get a response.
Most non-professional business I have ever done business with. Instead of initiating refunds to my customers, they attempted to "hold" funds for 3 months, I'm almost certain in an effort to rip off customers in hopes they would not come forward for a charge-back. The only reason I can figure they would not want to do business with me is because my business is start-up and I am not processing 10k a week in sales.
My business actually works with multiple payment gateways and this was hands down the most disturbing and disgusting business practice I have ever seen. It isn't bad enough small businesses are struggling today with the COVID-19 crisis crippling business, but you have payment processing companies like PayPal and Square that just find ways to only do business with "big players", making hundreds of thousands in fees. They are not in it for your business. They are in it for theirs! My advice? Get yourself a real merchant account and payment processing company. This place is by far the sneakiest and dishonest company. I will never do business with them again and I would recommend staying away, unless you process a million a year in sales of course!

AVOID THEM... I used Square without any issues or problems for a number of years.. Processed payments from $20 - $4500 with no issues. When my business picked up, I started getting consulting fees for $10K - $12.5K... When I processed my first payment with them for $10K, they suspended my account. I answered ALL their questions to validate my account. Sent them my driver's license, passport, 3 months of bank statements, Invoices, link to my website - BASICALLY everything to prove my identity. On my bank statements they could easily verify prior deposits. After all this, they deactivated my account with $10,500 held there that I cannot collect. I am extremely frustrated. AVOID THEM. I am a cab driver and being able to take credit cards is very beneficial for me. I signed up with Square. Did a total of 2 transactions and they put my funds on hold for my account to be under review. They requested me to answer questions and upload documents which I did and the next business day my account was reopened and I was able to transfer my funds into my bank account. Then the following day, the day after my account was reopened, I did two more transactions and again my account was put under review. Only this time my account was deactivated. No reason was given they're holding my funds and I had to refund my customers totaling close to $200 because Square claims that they are going to hold my funds for 90 days. As a cab driver if I do not get paid immediately after I run affair then I am out the money. So I refunded my customers and I'm out almost $200 because Square decided for some reason to deactivate my account.
This company is terrible. I gave them all the information that they needed. I answered all the questions they wanted answered. I did everything they wanted me to do. Spent over two hours on the phone talking to these people. Even got my request escalated by a manager and still Square deactivated my account for absolutely no reason at all nor was I given an explanation. All I can do is hope that I can recover some of this money from my customers.
Being a single mother every penny matters. I feel completely robbed by these people. I did the work. I should be paid for it and I find it very unfair that these people think that they can just hold our money or deactivate account for no given reason at all. Please please please read and believe these reviews because every single bad review that I am right on here is true. I'm going through the same thing that these other people are going through. The only difference is my transactions were all very small. Under $100. Find a different company because that little 2.6% just isn't worth it in the end. Using Square trying to save money on credit card transactions isn't helpful because in the end you're going to be out the total amount of transactions just like I am. Hope this helps.

The said they would take the 'Welcome Letter' from the bank. My bank does not send a Welcome Letter. I have spoken to someone, give completely wrong information. No one will tell me why this decision was made...say the customer is not disputing the charge. Just that they 'are committed to protecting my account security.'
Stupid part is my other location's transfers are going into the same checking account! I'm actively looking for a new platform. Be very wary of Square. It doesn't have the slightest chance to work in a real restaurant. I'll keep it brief and only describe two issues that make this program literally worthless to a table service operation. 1. Bartenders cannot dip cards to hold tabs, they literally have to hold the card in their possession. In and of itself a deal breaker for any real operation. 2. This is a simple criticism. Square took approximately 2000 dollars of my money for an order that I now can't ship and is holding it IF and UNTIL I prove a negative. What are they asking me to prove? They want me to demonstrate that the person ordering the goods is not some sort of fraudster in collusion with me, by way of a whole slew of redundant, useless information—coming from me, backed up by nothing other than my word. So they're both accusing me of being complicit in fraud and then asking me to prove that I'm not.
The credit card used was not reported as stolen. The transaction and correspondence is standard, rational and backed up by anything but suspicious activity. The person ordering the goods lives at a verifiable address in a former British colony that is one of the wealthiest on earth where fraud using credit cards is almost impossible (even more so than the USA).
What did they consider strange? Oh well the amount of the order was higher than normal even though the products are listed on my website. Do they have a number that you can call to get a customer service rep on the phone? No. Unless you source a special page with a code that you might be able to use to try and get a live person. So now my customer expects delivery of the goods and I can't ship them unless I want to do so for free and risk never being paid. In 12 years with eBay / PayPal / Stripe—I NEVER had an issue like this. Of course, I will never work with Square again but in the meantime, they have my money and won't release it even though I jumped through all their hoops like a good little monkey. Disgusting. I immediately phoned them and was advised they had never heard of Cash App. I tried to get a refund through Cash App - That's a joke. I finally went to my financial institution, who wanted to file a fraudalent action complaint and cancel my credit card - which would mess me up for several weeks while waiting for a new card and then the pin number under separate mailing.
I tried calling the company only to find out it is owned by Square Inc in California and could only get a recording directly me to a website. I finally found where I could get "support" from Cash App who sent me an email saying they would investigate. Investigate what? All they would let me put in was my email! I immediately responded to that email to tell them it was never authorized and who it was supposed to go to doesn't even have an account. In other words, Cash App took my money and had it in their hands.
Today, I finally got a refund of the money - but guess what? To actually get my money back in to my bank account, I have to pay a fee. Remember, I never authorized this money to be taken out of my account but I have to pay to put it back in! What a scam! I have only used this app two times legitimately to loan money to my daughter. You can not for example look up items by vendor or create/see any useful reports to help you with your purchasing of inventory. They have a few reports available but it's clear by these that Square don't understand retail at all. When issues arise such as your credit card reader won't work due to issues on their end, it may take hours for them to fix and you are stuck with only accepting cash and therefore lose sales during those times.

We did not comply so 30 days later Square sent an email saying account was closed and our funds would be released another 90 days later on 12/31/2019. Never happened after holding my funds for four months. We only did two transactions for a total of 774.81 dollars.
Tried to call and Square requires a code to talk to them. Square won't give a code if they closed your account. So I searched and found out how to text Square. The reply referred to rules in contract about how Square can close an account anytime. No answer from Square as to when my funds would be released. I sent a second text and got same answer which confirms they have an automatic response so they do not read your text. The rules say you agree to not be able to sue them but that rule would only apply if their actions were legal. They stole my funds and that is felony theft. Paypal is a better option. I have a dental office and due to Elavon’s confiscation of funds for not taking an online PCI compliance course was fined$25 per month for 9 months. This was done without my knowledge and I only became aware of it due to Elavon calling me to try and sell me another terminal. Decided to switch to Square. Had been with Square for about 5 years and was very pleased, especially with their 2.5% transaction fee. Since then it has gone up to 2.6 +.
A problem arose recently when Square sent me an email stating that a patient who had been rendered treatment with his wife was disputing a charge 3 months later. The reason was “no knowledge of charge”. Square proceeded to ask me to provide any detailed information which would prove that the treatment had been rendered and that the charge was valid. This information was to be forwarded to the cardholder's bank which would make the final ruling. The first thing that made things difficult was that they would not allow me to know the identity of the disputer. The second thing was that I only had a few days to provide the information, in other words it was being rushed. The only thing I was given was the amount of the dispute and the time and day the transaction took place.
I therefore went to my appointment book and looked at the time. I found that there was a man and his wife who came in and was charged the amount of the dispute. As I began to provide the necessary information ie. address, phone number, an itemized list of services rendered and fees for each procedure, realized that this information and the providing of it to third party was a violation of the cardholder's HIPAA privacy. I therefore was only able to provide to the cardholder's bank, the generalized information that we were a dental office and that dental services were rendered. I also provided the address minus the numbers and apt. #. I also stated that under HIPAA I could not give more detailed information.
Now Square claims that they also provided a copy of the signature screen which clearly shows the patient’s name and signature. So, one might ask, how is it that the patient is able to claim “no knowledge of charge”? The bank should also have a copy of the cardholder's signature with which to compare. Despite this the bank ruled in favor of the cardholder and Square proceeded to attempt to remove from my bank acccout the amount of the dispute. I called my bank and blocked the withdrawal because I felt the whole process was biased and rushed. Square then withdrew the funds from my next day's receipts without my knowledge or notification. Square acts like your bank account and the funds you send them to be processed are an “open wallet” for them to take money whenever they please. As a result of this experience I am looking for someone else to process my credit card transactions. BEWARE of Square.

When I asked for clarification by email, someone named Roland replied: "Our decision to deactivate your account is final. Our Merchant User Agreement outlines specific account types and processing patterns that we are unable to support, and your account matches one or more of these conditions. I’m unable to address this with you any further, as I’ve shared all the information I can provide."
When I tried again, the same person said the same thing. When I tried calling, and gave them my unique code that the website provided me for phone support, I got an automated message stating that we violated their terms in some way but nothing specific again. We run about $50,000 of credit cards/debit cards per month, and this left us really stranded and we ended up losing about 3 weeks of merchant services to this. It only hurt our clients. We are now back up and running but for what?
Square simply decided unilaterally that we can no longer use their services. We do not fit any one of those 30 illegal or unauthorized business types and had been using Square since 2014 with no issues. Also, we had just updated to their new terminal device spending almost $400 and now have to find someone to buy it. My 1st transaction resulted in a hold being put on my account. They wanted copies of my id, business license, 3 months of bank statements, invoices (which my company doesnt use), proof of an online presence, and the nature of my business. Other than my id and business license none of this is their concern. They refused to lift the hold on my account without this information and I was even told to fabricate invoices. The whole ordeal was stressful and unnecessary and the steps you need to take to even contact customer service are lengthy and unclear.

On three occasions I have received receipts for purchases made by my mother. We do not share accounts or cards of any kind. After confirming what had happened and sorting out how this occurred, I was only able to come up with one possibility. My mother does not have email (and for that reason has never had my email address) and her cell phone is only for emergencies. It did not occur to her that receipts could be sent to her phone, and actually I don't think that they can. It would seem that Square attached her to me solely based on last name. There are not a lot of us and we are probably all related but we do not all know each other and we don't want our data shared without our consent, even with family.
I have disconnected my email from the square system. I'm guessing this means I can't get my own receipts either. This is fine as I do not want to have my business run through a system that may send data to someone I don't know. I tried to reach Square about this (four different phone numbers and customer support. Apparently only vendors are considered customers. Beware of letting anyone run your card through square. Who knows who will get your receipts. Heaven forbid your name is common, could be anyone.

I just recently received an email from Square congratulating me on one year of doing business with them. Lo and behold, just today they suspended my account for suspicious activity. I attempted to enter all of the required information to unlock my account as they requested. Unfortunately for whatever reason they are not accepting my uploads. There is no option on the site to request help in uploading the required documents. I do not take it lightly that they have essentially shut down my business despite having no problems for a year now. I am currently shopping for another payment processing site as this is unacceptable. Buyer beware when you use Square.

This crew of shysters ought to be ashamed of themselves. They closed my account with zero forewarning. No explanation. I’ve tried repeatedly by phone, email, FB Messenger, and evening posted in their community, to no avail. The last thing I did was send money to my two younger sisters who are in need of some help. $80 went to my PayPal to send to one sister, so she could buy an electric blanket. The other went to PayPal so I could send $50 to my youngest sister, so she could buy food for herself and two kids because her abusive live-in partner won’t give her money for groceries. So I try to help my family and end up losing everything because of it. I guess it’s true what they say, No good deed goes unpunished.
5 years ago I was told I had 3-5 years to live because Duke University couldn’t figure out what was causing my health issues. We finally figured it out to me Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic issue. Because of that I also have heart failure and a vascular brain mass, not to mention Dysautonomia and MCAD. So I had to find something I could still do. I decided to give up our family bakery and go back to my artwork. I’ve been working to set it up so I can help my husband make up for my lost income and to cover my medical bills because I cannot get insurance that will cover this mess. So we pay all my bills and medications out-of-pocket. I’m over here trying to set up my business and they decide to screw everything up on me. Not. Helpful.

Square are holding thousands of $$$ of our transactions. They will not refund, or process our money, for up to 90 days. Once they do, the transactions will be reversed, sending back the money to our customers, for which we have provided goods and services. Avoid these con artists. Terrible customer service experiences on phone and online. As many other customers have said on here, they randomly hold your money and DO NOT release your funds the next business day by 4pm. As a small business, I used PayPal processing for the past 6 years in USA, and they gave me my money instantly, no problem. With Square, they will not give me instant access to MY money. They state on their website that money I take in on a business day will be in my account on the next business day by 4pm.
I emailed Square to clarify that after my first sale was made, and they replied back "Yes, your funds will be in your account by 4pm tomorrow." And I phoned to make certain this was true, as I had not received my funds yet on the next business day. The team member told me that I would have the funds by 4 or 4.30pm today after she looked up my account. Well you can guess. The funds never showed up, so I called help line and was given some excuse that there had been a delay and no one knew why. Hmmm. Lots of other square reviews have said the same thing
This company seem to be fraudsters and liars. They publish their policy as funds being in your bank account on the next business day, but it is not true and they will not do anything to remedy the situation. I spoke with Laura, and Ben who was supposedly the head of customer service in Dublin. Poor choice if he is. Both of them could not have been more disinterested and rude. Ben refused to let me talk to a higher level supervisor and said no one knew why this happened but would not accept responsibility, nor advance me the money anyway as he said the money cleared my bank that morning. Well if the money cleared my bank why didn't I see it?? I told him it was fraud to advertise the next day funds protocol and then wash his hands of it when it didn't happen, and he just said sometimes these things happen. No explanation whatsoever.
Even after I told him I had phone call and email from 2 of his employees that day and night before saying my funds would be in my account, and available to me, today by 4pm, he still just felt sorry for himself and told me he wasn't enjoying the phone call and was going to hang up. I again asked for his supervisor and he told me I could cancel my service with Square if I was not happy with their service. And then he said it's probably the fault of my online booking service, Acuity scheduling. So I told him it's Squares interface with Acuity, if there is a problem Square should sort it out and give me my money now. He was not interested and hung up!
It's amateur hour over there, and unprofessional does not even begin to describe them. Don't believe what you read on their site and be prepared for sub-par customer service. I think there are better options out there. Small business owner has it hard enough without having a supposed support service working against them. It's 2019. This company is a dinosaur. Obese and inflexible and stuck in 1990's. Customers have choices now Square.

I have been using Square for my company since January of 2019. In the beginning, everything seemed great. THEN, MAJOR ISSUES started coming forth. Deposits not able to go through because of THEIR "technical issues." I would try messaging and calling for support with ZERO help, but the standard, "there is nothing with can do at this point, our systems should be up and running accordingly soon." This is NOT an appropriate response when you provide a company one of your most valuable assets that you wake up every morning to grow and provide superior customer service (if you care) to your customers.
In return, when you have worked an incredibly long week and would like a deposit into your bank account, the company you trust your deposits with should be able to step up and handle those transitions. MULTIPLE Times Square has not been able to come through, nor has the ability or care and concern with poor customer service to follow up and provide a solution. I write this post to hopefully help others avoid these unfortunate issues that will ultimately deflate you overtime. Go seek a reputable merchant that truly CARES and will make every effort to make sure you are taken care of with a positive outcome. ZERO STARS GIVEN.

I’ve used Square for about 2 years. Chose them after being charged fraudulent fees by the MERCURY Co., who eventually was sued by CHAMPS sporting goods and we joined class action suit (*got $64 back...of our over $680 losses...). So, having used Intuit Quickbooks charge processing and tired of monthly fees when we barely processed cards, Square seemed like a great alternative, no monthly fee. That is until after purchasing the POS tablets, readers etc. we discovered that some “charges” didn’t fund and showed up instead as “cash” sales (*which should have been impossible since we were only using the Square POS for electronic charge card processing sales, and another old cash register system for cash and checks). Pretty cut and dry, right? Nope.
Firstly, getting ahold of Square to discuss with a human being was nearly impossible; but once done they said it was due to “human error”. ? So, let me get this straight - a charge card is inserted in a chip reader, and processes as a cash sale, and this is my human error? Why? How? Apparently, if the charge card (blue) sales button is touched before the reader this occurs. So we’ve been diligent, yet over $650 of charge sales this year still read as “cash” (no recourse for us, no funding by Square), or processed as “other” (I don’t even know what that term means..).
Let’s say we did use the SQ as a POS and accepted cash or gift cards (* which we don’t have), how would I know if a so-called cash sale was or was not an actual cash sale? (* I wouldn’t). But, since we use an old fashioned cash register for cash and checks, and only use SQ for electronic charge card processing, I can tell. And, unless we are all retarded here the SQ charge card processing steps are flawed and errors occur where charge cards look like they are read but later do not fund and show up as cash. In the past 19 months nearly $700 of “charge cards placed in the SQ chip reader” that have later appeared as “cash sales” or “other” in the SQ report and obviously as such are not funded. Square places blame on the retailer (users error they’ve called it). Is it a scam? I can’t tell, to be honest. Not yet. We now have a camera on our SQ reader....news at 11....

I've used Square for several years, and I've noticed a real drop-off in customer service and responsible management in the last year or so. Basically, my advice for using Square is to limit the charges to smaller amounts ($500 or less), use the instant deposit feature (it's worth the extra 1%), and then move most of the money out of your account ASAP. They used to stand behind their merchants, but that's all gone now. Having been in business for over 30 years, my advice would be, that if you have a business that regularly processes larger payments, just use your own bank to process the charges - at least you know how to get in touch with them!

I work in the music industry and own a major commercial recording studio in New York. Any customer can claim that they do not consent or were not aware of any charge long after it happens and there is nothing Square will do about it. My business has lost many thousands to faulty chargebacks despite providing square with:
- Photo ID's of the client, as well as their personal contact info and bank card information
- Transcripts in email and text that clearly illustrate all the terms and rates, as well as the client's consent prior to the charge being made
There is nothing that square will do to defend a small business from fraudulent chargebacks no matter how much clear evidence they provide them and how little the fraudster provides. They will simply refund them their money in full and allow the bad clients to do this to another small business.

One I did not dispute because a customer unknowingly wanted to cancel his service. He didn't call us or take the proper steps to cancel. He just called his card company without warning. Square deactivated my account and put me on a the MATCH list so I am unable to acquire new merchant processing for my business.
There are NO live people to talk to at all, and to make matters worse they gave me a capital loan because of how great my business was doing which has now gone into default because they are no longer taking payments from my actual processing. On the surface Square has a very easy system to use. But they have Zero customer service. There is never anyone to talk to and if we are not able to find a new processor we may be forced to close our doors. Stay far away from this company if you want to be in business longer than a year.

This service must have been thought up by a bunch of computer programmers who are trying to maximize profits at the expense of service and support. They charge top dollar for a bottom tier product, although the website is very pretty. It may work well for lemonade stands and such, but if you have large transactions and deadlines to meet, steer clear.
SUPPORT. You have one option for support: email them. Then, after an hour or so, they will send you an automated/ templated response that does nothing for you. Be Prepared for basically no support if something goes wrong. Simply unacceptable for a business that only does things virtually. PROCESSING TIME. They promise 1-2 business day processing, or same day processing for and additional 1% fee. In my experience with them, there is absolutely no adherence to this promise (1-2 days). There is no refund or anything for their failure to deliver. Again, all you can do is email a robot.

Square is a corporate machine that does not add human element to their algorithm. I have processed 500,000 dollars over the last 3 years. Last night they denied a payment from a customer. The payment was approved they just said under review. Told me they needed a profile done. Had to answer several questions. Had to send an invoice. Had to send my i.d. Surprised I did not have to take a drug test.
Well they wanted the customers home address. I did a rental property for this customer. They dont understand that some customers are private. They dont want to give out their home address to someone. They are just doing business within an online world. Well the customer said, "I will do this but I'm not happy." I send them everything they want. Still no deposit. Biggest factor my customer fired me this morning. We have over 70 grand a year of business with them. I AM OVERWHELMED. Funny part the payment they suspended, 2500 dollars. Still no deposit. A lost account for 70 grand. I just sold all if my Square stock. Had 5000 shares. Invested it in PayPal. Disappointed and looking for work. That is the problem with taking human element out of the process. ** Square.

Don't use this App. Get Vemo anything else. @cashapp they are owned by Square. I tried to purchase through Zebit twice with two declines so I added more money from my bank account. The third time the purchase went through $59 completed. But on Zebit end they didn't accept it because they don't take cash app payments. I see why. So instead of Cash App putting my money $59 back on card they kept it.
When I emailed them they said, "Oh we are putting money back." When I went into Cash App...the money was not back on my account then when I complained the guy who emailed me said, "Oh the money went back 2 days ago" which was a lie because I was watching my balance. It never returned. My history or purchases didn't even reflect the return of $59 then they went in. Removed the completed transaction $59. Left the ones from declined there but luckily I had already taken screenshots of completed transaction history and I have email.
Whenever there is a return cash app lets you know. I sent 9 emails after they never answered. You see them on Instagram giving money away. Don't dare trust them nor get Cash App by Square... We are reporting them to federal and BBB. Getting this on News so people don't get ripped off and we are coming with lawyer they can bet. You can't talk to nobody but email. Don't trust that ever. I used Square to send some money from my credit card to my bank account. I did the same day deposit. The full $30 was deposited from my credit card into my normal bank account. I then logged on to my credit card account so that I can pay the statement, and I notice and extra charge of $15 on there, that was sent to the square company itself. I went back and checked my normal bank account to see if I had accidentally sent myself $45 or something, but nothing. When I looked at the $15 charge on my credit card closer, it has Square's address and everything. So they stole money off of my credit card. That money isn't going into MY bank account, they took that extra $15 for themselves.
I can only imagine how terrible this would be if I were an actual customer, and I bought something from someone and then noticed they were charging me these fraudulent charges. I wouldn't ever buy from that company again, even though it's not even the company's fault. But how would I know Square was stealing my money? I would just assume if it's from the same website, it must be the company I bought the item from that was crooked. So, 0/10 would not recommend, they'll probably ruin your company's name.
