I used Square to process a customer payment. They processed the payment but now they won't release the money to me unless I complete a 20-question exam to verify my business including the invoice, shared texts, bank account review, business license verification. I've never had my company so investigated and notice that this happened after they processed the payment so now they have it and will charge me their fee even if I refund the customer's money. Why wasn't this verification process done before they accepted the payment? This is a scam company now.

First off Square DOES NOT accept online banking platforms and they require a bank account to transfer any money through them. Which makes absolutely NO sense to me seeing as how they are partners with Cash app. My entire experience has been nothing short of a disaster, I downloaded them on a recommendation from a customer that had owed me for some time and preferred the tap-to-pay option. It's been 3 weeks since and I STILL cannot get my money transferred. I don't have a bank except Cash app and so I thought I would have the option to get a Square checking account, nope. I called and they apparently cannot open a checking account over the phone, seriously? Why not? Some of the account specialists have been helpful but few and far between.
I also don't understand how to operate their HUGE CONGLOMERATE of too many apps and each app has so many options and it's all so hard to find it doesn't make any sense and does not help with opening an online business especially if your new to it. All in all, I wouldn't recommend Square at all. As soon as I get my money transferred I'm deleting the app and never turning back.

Square does not know how to solve problems then after demanding to talk to supervisor supervisor refused to talk to me and or address the problem. I have solved the problem. I will take my business elsewhere. What a joke.

AVOID SQUARE! First and foremost - Their customer service is terrible. I NEVER LEAVE REVIEWS, BUT SQUARE CHANGED THIS. Honestly, there are cheaper and superior option. The first place I would check is with your bank. A lot of them offer a POS of their own. My experience with Square cost me thousands of potential sales and cost of replacement with a new system. After using square for 6 months they one day sent me an email that stated they are unable to process payments and deactivated my account. No reason was given and customer service will tell you nothing. You have to go through the "compliance team" via email only and their responses are short, useless, and days apart. Please save yourself a future headache and choose another company! This is just a quick summary of what happened, but take it from a struggling business. Square is not on your side.

I will never work with Square again. My new business used square for all business transactions. Estimates, invoices, payments and receipts. After receiving a $420 payment for deep clean and smoke remediation services, I was informed that my account was being deactivated and I would not receive my payment for 90 days. Square informed me that my business did not follow their guidelines and I was high risk. Not only am I licensed and insured, I am also a state vendor. All business transactions were completed using their documents and payment links. All estimates were accepted, invoices signed and contract completion forms signed by customers. Payments accepted and receipt of payment sent through square. How could I possibly be high risk.

I am attempting to make a payment to my local hospital via Square. Square has an OLD credit card on file. After about 15 minutes of trying, I FINALLY got the square site to accept an entry for my NEW credit card. Square then came back and told me they will not accept that card (a master card from my Credit Union). After additional attempts, I entered another credit card and the payment was accepted. I have attempted several time to reach ANY customer service for CONSUMERS at square and have been DENIED. I don't have a square business account. After all this, I will NEVER have a square business account. What does it say about a company who advertises that they accept payments if they will not accept my payments and provide no resource to correct their issues (yes, I have way more than 100X the amount of the payment as an available balance in my credit union account).
I will not use square unless I have to. I will not recommend square to anyone. I will relate my problems with square to anyone who will listen. Square is only about their own profit. They don't care about ANYTHING else. DON'T USE SQUARE. I will avoid purchasing from you if I see that you use square if there is any other way to get what I am attempting to purchase. SQUARE IS THE WORST.

Stole all my receipts, horrible customer service, won't help me recover properly, trying to steal my business license, and problems and bugs in their systems, won't work. Dissapoints everyone, very cheap.

Square's point of sale customer service is DREADFUL!!! It's impossible to speak with an agent even though they publicize a phone number 855-700-6000. Instead when you call that number, it gets you into a doom loop of automated messages where they're ending the call and sending you back into chat. THIS COMPANY IS AWFUL. I HAD TO PAY A COMPUTER CONSULTANT TO FIX MY PROBLEM WITH SQUARE. I wish there were good helpful alternatives. Silicon valley, please come up with an alternative to square.

Our business keeps losing money with all the glitches with square. Square does not show appointments, clients are frustrated with square, over all it has been one big disappointment. We are looking for new service.

Beware! I started using Square in 2019. On March 25, 2024, out of the blue my account is frozen stating violation of terms and conditions. I called Square, they informed me that the department that I need to speak with "does not have a phone". I requested a call back with an explanation, never received the first call nor email. On April 24, 2024, I still have heard nothing from them. In December 2023, I took out a small loan through Square. I received a notification on April 24, 2024, that my loan was in default because They closed my account and demanded payment in full! I seem to be one of the more fortunate businesses as I did not have funds tied up. However, I feel this is such a scam. The JP Morgan Gangster Banksters are still at it and nothing is being done. They even have an A+ rating on Better Business Bureau with 3,436 complaints. It is a very crooked thing!!!!

It takes up to 4 months to resolve charge backs. Yet the merchant has to submit evidence of validating the charges within hours. The client normally has about 10 days to validate the charges. So why does it take Square 4 months to resolve? You are out of both products and cash. Square’s customer service is nonexistent. I am seriously considering switching as an ant would be more helpful. I can’t pay a vendor to provide subpar service anymore.

Square is awful to deal with, zero customer service and don't care about the customer. They will try to scam you out of your money and frustrate you with a stupid chat feature that can not fix any issues. Don't trust Square. They don't deserve one star. Total scam.

Is anyone dissatisfied with the way Square handles Charge Backs? We send them all the documents and all they do is they say they passed this on to the bank or credit card company. If the charge back is accepted - and most of the time the charge back should not be allowed - Square says they cannot do anything; cannot find out why, don't even prove that they did their own due diligence; don't know if they actually passed the documents that we sent to the bank or credit card company. To summarize the way they handle charge backs are terrible! We will be changing to Wells Fargo or some other company.

This company takes the payment from your customers but will not release the funds without you paying more. It’s been 2 hours of me in the phone and being hung up on to get the so called manager who then rudely hung up on me when I said I needed to speak to someone else. Since her response was too bad! Whatever you do DO NOT use this service.

PLEASE DON'T USE THEM!!! On April 4, 2024, I opened an account with Square in order to start CC processing for my new business. On April 12, I opened a Square Checking account with them for the business as well. On April 14, we had our first 2 customers whose payments of $640 and $340 came through. Later that night Square emailed me requesting a photo of my ID and a selfie to confirm my identity, which I did at that time, no problem! On April 15, I was sent an email requesting that I answer multiple questions to further verify. They requested 3 months of statements from my business account. I called to let them know there would be no history they had a hold on the account. I was assured that I could use my "Account Ownership Letter" instead.
I attempted to open that letter from my email and the dashboard, the PDF was not available. I called back and spoke to Jeffrey. He asked me to upload screenshots of the new Square Checking account. I told him that it specifically states they will not accept screenshots and he said he would take care of it. Sure enough, I received an email stating it was unacceptable. I called again and spoke with Debra. She advised she could not open the letter either and it was a problem on their end, she would resolve it. She called back to advise they fixed the account and we were back up. She sent an email confirming.
2 hours later we had a customer who was unable to pay his invoice with CC. I called again. Margie advised that the account was deactivated and she couldn't tell me why. We went back and forth. She said I'd have to wait 90 days to get my money (to my Square Checking account that was CLOSED) and disconnected the call. She sent that deactivation email while were disconnecting. Now they continue to say that Square Checking is where they will refund the money, although it does not exist. They refuse to even let us speak to management. I don't know how I will get my money back!! (Calls were recorded, emails saved.)

I run a business and can not have my funds randomly frozen with no notice. This is not going to work. If there is any issue with my account I need to know about it and get it resolved immediately. They are telling me that it will be at least 24 hours be for they even contact me to tell me what the issue is. I am going to have to take my business elsewhere. I am very disappointed with Square and do not recommend them for small business.

Easy sign up process (RED FLAG!) received a payment of $400 from customer and they decided to hold my funds and required me to verify. I answered the verification questions only for them to continuously send more questions. If verification is that much of a process it should be done BEFORE allowing customers to make payments!

Whatever you do, don’t do business with Square. I’m a small business owner and Square closed my account for no reason and will not release my money. As I now read the other reviews I see I’m not the only person with this issue, as several other people reviewed Square about the same thing. They said there was suspicion of fraudulent behavior on my Square account. I sent them every document they requested, I have proof of my legal business and all of its transactions. No matter what we sent they still decided to close my account.
They would not release my money which was well over $5,000. After several useless calls to Square they finally told me that they can only release my money after 90 days. Now they are only releasing it in parts, which they still did not say when I’m going to receive ALL of my money back. They are only allowing me to take $1,000 at a time and every time they charge me a fee of over $30 to move that money out of the account they closed for no reason.

Absolutely the worst cart and support imaginable. We moved into Square Up in Nov 2023 and immediately had support issues. Worse yet reoccurring support issues that they kept telling us oh yes it is fixed and they were not. Spent hours each week on the tele with them. Even have some issues that they were supposed to research and get back with me on and never did. Don't walk but RUN away from this mess!

Worst of the worst. Random amounts of money being pulled from my business account. Can't ever speak to the right person. Bounces you from representative to the point you're on the phone for an hour and have explained things to several customer service representatives. Do not use them.

I own a small construction company and just recently started using Square, in the first week I’ve received over $21k in payments from clients that are currently frozen and under review for over a week now, I’ve spoken. To customer service today and they made me fill out a questionnaire that in my opinion invades mine and my client's privacy, including personal info, emails and address, I had not choice but to comply and they told me it’s now under review and I should have an answer within two business day.
I then asked if my funds would be available after review and they say upon approval it will take an additional two business days to be transferred into my account, we are approaching the weekend so that means even if they approve it I probably won’t see the money till mid next week. I have deadlines to meet, materials to buy and vendors to pay, this outrageous illegal withhold of my funds might end up cost me and my company thousands and reputation. I can’t wait to have my funds and delete square. DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS CRIMINALS!!!

Three UNWANTED Fraud Protection 48 hour WAIT WINDOW PERIODS to access my Square Point of Sale AS A CLIENT WHO PAYS FOR THIS OPERATING SYSTEM. HANDS DOWN THE WORST THING I EVER BROUGHT ON BOARD MY BUSINESS. Now it's experiencing a "bug" and once again I have lost out on thousands of dollars. I have been using Square POS for my business for 3 years. This year has been the worse year because they have been questioning every single transaction that I process. I have had to submit documentation for every single transaction. If I do not submit documentation they will put a hold on all transfers. They have now started to question my relationship to those who make a transaction using my Square POS. Duh they are clients. I will no longer be using Square because this is ridiculous and an invasion of privacy on myself. Square can go directly to Hell. They are not the only POS service around.

Terrible. Customer Service is Ridiculous. It actually is laughable it if wasn't such a serious problem. Today, customer Service Manager, Dom, told me "You shouldn't rely on the terminal to give accurate payment amounts because it can differ from the "Dashboard"....."even a day later." Instead he suggested I go through EVERY PAST DATE of record from the Terminal receipt tape and compare it the Dashboard listed payments. Seriously???? Why can't Square list accurate payment amounts everyday? Why would the Terminal balance differ from the Dashboard balance? It makes no sense and he made no sense either.
Another example of an issue with Square is that it produced a receipt of payment for a customer, but did not list the customers payment in our Dashboard. When the customer complained about receiving another bill a Square Rep eventually admitted the payment was never taken from the customer's account. So why the heck did Square produce a receipt of payment for the customer. Incredible!!!!

Not a good business model, support is horrible. They will keep your money to force you out of business. Basically they told me to take perfectly legal items off my website. I refused. Please understand, I did not sell anything illegal on my page. Because I didn’t take the products off my website they started holding my funds. They eventually closed my merchant account but never returned my money. These were MY SALES! Because they did this it forced me out of business because I couldn’t access my money to buy new product. This is a very shady practice as they take your money and draw interest off of it while your business tanks. To this day almost a year later, I still do not have my funds that are legally mine. I can’t tell you enough that if you want to keep your business running, DO NOT USE SQUARE!

I do not recommend Square, they have been my POS provider for 12 years and when I first started to use them, they were fair and priced well. Over the years, I have seen them leave their initial small business customers behind and steadily find more and more ways to take money away from my business, even though nothing has improved beyond the way it used to work 12 years ago.
OK, I spend more on the fact I use their rather basic timekeeping system and their payroll which is quite good and convenient, but I am talking about the extra charges and the latest one just pushed me over the line of making plans to find an alternative. They have now started charging for loading gift cards. Many of the gift cards I issue are used a gifts to local charities and now I have to pay extra for the privilege. If things go wrong, Square rarely compensate even when it is their fault, and if they do finally compensate they give back a few dollars that do not make up for the mistakes.

I tried to activate my account to accept payments on my website, which operates in the USA, UK and some European countries. But at the same time, I am not physically there now. I live 50/50 in two countries. SO they say that you need to BE in the right country to accept payments. That is, if your site operates in the USA, you accept payments directly on the site - you personally must be located in the USA. RAVE. (And when a person goes on vacation to another country, should he ask Square for permission?) I am attaching screenshots of the dialogue.

I was all excited about Square and even brought a reader from Walmart, got it all set up and everything! So first time I used it, I had a customer and went to swipe the card, and payment wouldn’t go through,,, I thought maybe I don’t know how it works, kept trying, and I was so embarrassed first time client, things supposed to go smoothly. So lucky for me the customer had Zelle so went with that, later come to find out my account had been CLOSED! I called and they didn’t know why, said sometimes after review it happens….but why get approved when you open the account & not approved when you try to use it…. Oh well. Will look elsewhere…

I'm a new small business and was excited to received my first payments. I had three invoices totaling about $2300. Square decided the payments were part of a credit card scam and were likely to be disputed. I provided all of the details they required and was certain they would find their initial decision incorrect. NOPE. They decided that their initial decision stood and required me to refund my customer. Now, I get to politely ask my customer - who I do have a working relationship with - if she can pay those invoice again using a different credit card processing company. This is money that I need in order to move my business forward AND pay my own bills. If I were looking for a credit card processing service, I would look at anybody else. My experience with Square has been a nightmare.

Complete trash! I received a payment from a client and they froze it for no reason. They said it was under review for fraud, to protect me!!!!, I gave my clients contract and everything needed. Mind you, this is a rental vacation business and they have to check in tomorrow. Every call they hang up on you in the middle of you talking. The manager told me “I can’t tell you how to conduct your business “ after I told her, "What am I suppose to do with my clients who are traveling abroad expecting to stay in a home." Very careless and disgusting customer service.

Let me start by saying that after four month of emails, calls and filing formal complaints with the BBB and consumerfinance.gov, I finally have my funds back from Square. I'm sharing this to help others in a situation where Square has (probably without any notice or warning) frozen your Square savings account so that you can not transfer funds received no emails advising of the freeze. I happily used Square for over a year with 1 or 2 transactions per week. Then in November my account was frozen without any notification.
After five days of emailing and calling and talking to multiple customer service reps (all of whom promised that they would send me an email advising that the account was frozen and why but never did), finally, one said it was because I didn't use my account enough. I also asked the agent to send this information in writing, he also said he would but did not. A couple of days later, I talked to another customer service agent and told him that an agent had said it was because I didn't use my account enough, he confirmed and said that my funds would be released after 90 days. I asked him to send me an email to confirm this and he actually did send an email advising that the account was frozen and funds would be released in 90 days.
I believe having this email was very important to getting the funds release later, so if you are talking to Square, use lots of sweet/kind words and beg the agent to send something in writing. Surprise, surprise the funds were not released after 90 days so I started emailing and calling square. After several more emails and calls over three days, the Square customer service rep told me that she was not allowed to help me and could no longer talk to me over the phone. I immediately went to file complaints with the BBB and ConsumerFinance.gov. My complaint was very detailed and included dates of calls and emails and a copy of the email the agent sent me stating that the funds would be released on February 21.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: After 3 days, I received an email from the BBB saying Square had responded to my complaint, immediately after that email I received a very nice email from Square agent saying she would research and respond within 5 days and asking me to respond directly to her email with any additional information or questions. My first reaction was just to respond directly to her email, which I did. Then I went ahead and read the response square filed to my BBB complaint and was glad I did. EVEN if Square emails you directly, it is still important to go into the BBB site and respond to Square's response.
Square's response to the complaint just says they will investigate and provide more information after 5 business days, but if you don't go into the BBB site and reject the Square response within 5 days of Square's response (because nothing has been determined yet) the BBB will assume it is worked out and close your complaint!! So you must reject the response that Square sent to BBB and explain that you are rejecting until Square researches and responds with substantive information. That's what worked for me, and one week later, Square actually transferred my funds to me (square also formally closed my square savings account).

Customer information tucked away in hard to find places, transaction details hidden behind thumbnails that close only by setting you back in the search process. Switching customer credit cards on a per-transaction basis is as easy as deadlifting a two ton safe. Square sucks the joy out of being a small business owner.

Very bad experience so far, went through initial security and review process, only to receive our new bank card and we started receiving customer payments onto Square all fine until they held all deposits. We are a small welding fabrication business and this hurts small businesses holding our funds. Will be looking for new processing companies. Avoid Square and their predatory practices.

Bad taste in my mouth forever! I ordered on a Saturday 12-09-23 for the all in one terminal: within 15 minutes I cancelled due to my friends all saying it was a horrible and expensive service. I immediately cancelled my order only to be told it was already SHIPPED!! Monday I see a charge on my credit card of $323.71. I decided to wait until the terminal to arrive then send it back properly. I NEVER received this terminal. I called and at first the dude told me I had NEVER been charged. So, I asked if a credit had been issued and he said again that I had never been charged.
I run a very busy business and don't have time for a 23 minute call. Later, I called again and said that no credit had been issued and yet another guy said I had never been charged. Meanwhile this terminal still hadn't ended up in my mail. Yesterday (February 29th) looked at my credit card statement and had to spend another 23 minutes calling my bank who had to pass me through to others to get this handled. I had to search through my emails and yes, still a charge but NO credit! I was disgusted and my bank handled it by issuing me a credit immediately.
I emailed Square saying they wasted more of my time and since this order was on the 9th of December and now it was the 29th of February they should say 'sorry' or at least acknowledge their lousy service. I had a dork reach out via email saying that she 'couldn't find my order number and if you could provide it...' blah blah blah. I said I wasn't going to waste another minute on them or their ridiculous questions so I told them to never contact me again. Never will I ever use to pay anyone via square even! I can't believe in this day and age they could run a business like this! I usually never have to write a negative review but I will do everything I can to help keep people away from either using this service or paying using square. Thanks for listening!

I started calling my credit card processor Square Sunday night. I did reach an agent but they couldn't help me. Basically she just answers the phone and tells you to call back Monday. Come back Monday morning. Told the agent what my problem was. The agent put me on hold, came back, said that after 20 minutes they had to transfer me to the banking or credit card department and they could solve my problem. I said thank you and instead of transferring he hung up on me and did not call me back even though he had my phone number!!

Not answering their phones and cutting people off. Their answering system keeps you going in circles and then hangs up. Their site rolled back to a closed account so the transfers are going to a closed account and the money is now in limbo with not being able to do anything. Just to watch things disappear and hope for the best.

Square has no dispute protection and as a provider that offers services, it’s very important to have this. $860 withdrawn for an extension install that the client wants to skip payment on. I have to wait 90 days

We had Square payment system on our store, they held $2,900.00 for no reason for 90 days on July of 2023 and today January 9th 2024 are still on hold and now they canceled our account, they keep saying that the money is on the way but it's not, they have blocked our number and will not talk to us to explain, this is the biggest scam company that exist. I know there are more people out there with this issue and can't do anything about it. You will lose your money if you even consider signing with them.

I have been with Square for a while. They are constantly changing things in their policies yet failing to notify their customers of said changes. They're stealing money from people when a dispute is put in place JUST to keep the money that the dispute is over! They're HOLD SALES FUNDS THAT WE HAVE TO PAY TAXES ON AND NOT GIVING OUR MONEY TO US! I have been fighting with them for WEEKS to get my money back for a dispute they keep closing because they don't want to issue the money back when the STORE cancelled the sale for me yet SQUARE KEPT THE MONEY! I have had several sales since and not an issue getting the money until today! Now they're WITHHOLDING MY MONEY REFUSING TO ADD IT TO MY BALANCE So I can transfer it immediately out of their control! They are ignorant! They treat their customers like trash! They over charge for the services that 98% of the time do not even work!
They are CONSTANTLY having issues with their website and other issues with the functioning of the Square apps, etc! Nothing works but they still take their money every month and continue to steal even more from your sales! Small businesses will never survive with garbage like this! I used to THINK Square was a decent place to go through! I NO LONGER DO! They are the worst! The POS systems crash, freeze up and don't work! They drop sales at events! Costing me more money and supplies! Yet again SQUARE refuses to do anything about it! Business website won't even update properly! Nothing can get updated for sales because it doesn't work! Save yourself the headache and money and go with someone else! I'm so done with this worthless trash company! My money is BETTER spent ELSEWHERE!

I have a business consulting business and I also provide notary and pardon services. My account constantly gets flagged for review and they're holding random transactions for months one at a time. I continually reverify everything they ask and it's always something. Customer service is no help. They just care about the fees they're getting. After reading these reviews I see businesses are suffering! Headed over to BBB for my next complaint.

I am a tattoo artist (self employed/own boss) & I thought I would be helping my clients by getting this HORRIBLE/UN-ETHICAL app “Square”. I got to finally use it with my customer that ASKED to use “Square”. *NOTE (THIS APP IS NOT USER FRIENDLY, EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO USE AND CHARGE A PAYMENT) I’ve had NO MONEY & was finally excited to have money BUT when I did “instant transfer” SQUARE IS HOLDING ALL THE MONEY because they have to “verify” my Bank! IF I CAN RATE THIS COMANY ZERØ STARS I WOULD! Now I am BROKE and have to ask someone to BORROW money so I can PROVIDE for my daughter. Square! We signed up with Square Inc to try a new ACH payments solutions protocol for my business, so my customers can make payments for invoices and billing, more easily. Square took the money from the customer and is holding it. They won't release it to my business or back to the customer. This is my customers' money, not mine! They won't give a reason or explanation as to why this happen. I have a service based business. We will seek legal action against Square. Possible Class Action? It's all over the internet about Square holding consumers' and business' money/ funds.

We sell ** for pets from reputable sources and they put a stop on MY MONEY being deposited into our bank account until forms from the ** companies were provided. They gave 5 days from the time of the email - not business days. I had broken my arm and was unable to do it until the 5th day. Once I finally collected the information needed and submitted it (on the 5th day) I got a response that they are STILL going to stop depositing money into my bank account. Money I need there to pay distributors. Once reviewed in 2-3 days, they MAY start depositing it again if they are satisfied. I don't even understand how this is legal. They did this to me in the height of COVID as well.
If they have to have this information they should give you way more time than 5 days to provide it - especially if they have the right to withhold money from our sales. We are paying them for a service - How they can do this is beyond me and is infuriating. Small businesses have enough to deal with without having companies we rely upon take our money. Other aspects of Square are good but this really burns me.

In November of 2022 we requested a corrected tax form. We provided the required documents. Square has acknowledged that we provided the documents and would expedite the upload of the corrected 1099K (in an email dated Nov 1, 2023). It took 9 months and supplying the same documents 3 separate times, waiting 90 days each time for them to upload the corrected document. It is now January 2024 and we still do not have the promised document. Meanwhile the IRS Federal Tax Court is ready to pass judgment in the amount of $32K, after 5 extensions waiting for this corrected 1099K. Why are we being treated like this by Square? Is it because we are Veterans, because we are ** or because the business owner is Disabled? We just don't understand what is happening here. Have others been treated like this, or is it just us?

Well, nothing new here. Square unreasonably holding people’s money. I think there is something illegal going on here, maybe they’re using others' money to invest/grow themselves. Which would be fine IF WE AGREED TO that. I know I never agreed for them to hold my money. I had a business pay me with a business credit card and they’re holding it for “review.” It’s a CC purchase from a business. How can that be faked…. Don’t use Square if you’re reading this.

Square is the worst customer friendly business I have ever dealt with in my 40 years of running a small business. They are all like robots and so automated that they have taken people and customer service to a new low. I was locked out of my business account as I was logging into 5 different computers to have my employees be able to accept Square payments. But because of the multiple entries, they locked my account for over 24 hours. When talking to the agent, they verified me as the owner but could not reactivate my account for over 24 hours. So, not being able to use their platform, I lost a lot of money due to their inability to be flexible and unlock my account.
It should not be so difficult to reach a representative and have the issue resolved quickly. But that would require a human touch, which square is completely incapable of doing. Would not recommend using this platform unless you don't ever have to interact with them. Otherwise, be forewarned.... Small business owner San Francisco, Ca

I wanted to use Square, to keep track of my jobs, miles, tolls for tax purposes and other. I deposited a check via mobile that was a tax rebate. I'm verified thru Square, the check is pay protected and verifiable.. and yet it's been 6 days.. and no how if seeing in my account for another week I'm told. How sick is that? I could've drove up the street and called it in 5 minutes. Whatcha what you're doing folks. If you need your money it need to call customer service for luck. It took me 5 days to reach anyone at all and got hung up on. Then I got thru and I was treated like a piece of garbage. And they still have my money! But I don't! Thanks Square.

I am in a process of changing connected bank accounts. They are so slow. They really can't let go that 1.75% instant transaction fee. I hate this company. I have to find a better service that I can use.

I set up an online payment for contracting service using Square. My customer authorized $6000 payment. I was notified that the fund was to be withheld by square for up to 90 days pending on review. My payment platform was not supported according to the online chat customer support. They did not have person support, instead of Ai or chat online only. My money was still held by square. No phone, customer support to resolve the issue.

I been with Square almost 10 years. Use them once a while for photography customers. I just got a medium size payment for $300 from one of my customers and suddenly 5 minutes later probably Ai flagged my account and just closed it for no reason. Please see below the copy of the email, what does it mean to you that they will just hold your customer money for 90 days without explaining you why? There should be a law that the have to mention what went wrong so you can defend yourself. No they just make it impossible, the lady that spoke with very broken English said she can't access the info and not allowed me to talk to a supervisor since my account just got closed! I would not trust this company anymore, seems like 90% operation is not anymore in the USA and they can do whatever they want with your money!

Because of this, we are sorry to inform you that your Square account is now deactivated. What does this mean? You still have access to view your Square Dashboard, but you will not be able to process new transactions using Square. Any funds currently in your account balance will be held for a period of 90 days, and are due to be released to you within two business days after March 16, 2024.
Do your research there are way better companies out there and more honest. Square also had hidden fees and charge you without informing you. I use the print Check service and without any warnings they charged me 3% for a check written to myself! No way to cancel that check. You had to pay the fee!

I set up an account with Square to process payments specifically for Spa Finder Gift Cards. The account processes them seamlessly. I began in May 2023 and the funds never transferred to my account. I kept thinking I had something set up wrong and kept trying different settings and re-entering my account info. When I finally gave up and called them to ask for help setting up, they said they would have to refer me to another department higher up for review and they would email me. I instantly received an email stating my account has been deactivated. They stated that my funds will be released in February of 2024. (This was November 8, 2023).
No explanation...nothing. Every time I call they say "the decision is final." They will not forward me to a supervisor or anyone else... Always..."the decision is final". I even had my banker call them and tell them the code and laws stating this is illegal to hold the funds for 10 months. I cannot speak with anyone and they only send generic email saying "account is deactivated". They are holding over $5K of my money and I am a small, local business...this is literally my payroll. I do not know what else to do. How are they legally allowed to do this?

If I could rate it zero stars, I would! My business is barely 1 month old. I signed up to use Square per a family recommendation. I am primarily an online business, but also plan on doing local vendor events, so I needed a type of POS I could use on the go. I set up my website right away through Square so I could start accepting orders. I processed a total of 3 transactions within the first week, all fairly small amounts as my items range from $10-$25. My first 2 transactions go great, money is transferred into my account the following morning.
The 3rd however, I am still trying to retrieve from Square after having my account deactivated for unknown reasons on November 19th. Their system has unlinked my banking information from transfers and the system does not allow for it to be reconnected. The e-mail I received from Square on Nov. 19th was extremely vague and directs you to contact custom support if you feel this deactivation was done in error.
As I have done nothing to go against any of their terms and conditions, I attempted to contact them via the phone number provided in the e-mail. When I call, since my number is associated with my account, I am met with an automated recording stating my account has been deactivated and any money in my account will be released within the time frame noted in the e-mail. Nothing in the e-mail I received states anything about transfer time. I have replied to the e-mail several times, I have also e-mailed a separate e-mail address I found on their website.
The only other option they give is to do a chat within their website. The first person I spoke to through chat was extremely rude and told me my account was under review and that could last 3-5 days. When I told her it had been close to 2 weeks, she basically told me oh well, keep waiting. The 2nd time I spoke with chat, she assured me she would escalate my complaint to someone who could help me and I would hear back via e-mail very soon. That was the beginning of last week. I have done that several times as well and keep getting told they have no information and I need to e-mail customer support.
When asked about a time frame of when they typically respond, I'm told just to wait. As of right now it has been 1 week since I last spoken with chat and sent an e-mail. Still, nothing. Their customer service is appalling and I would NEVER recommend anyone using their services. But don't worry, I do still continue to receive all types of Square marking e-mails on a daily basis!

Most of November 2023 Square Up have had technical / security issues that cause the system to be unusable. I had to pay $20.35 to transfer my money to my regular bank to be able to withdraw today due to another outage. On top of the $20.35 cents it cost me $30 for 5 gallons of diesel to make the 100 mile round trip to my bank. They had offered refunds for transfer fees earlier this month when they had other outages and I did not take them up on the refunds but this time it was just to much money in fees to tolerate, so I called customer support and the rep put me on hold while they asked a supervisor if they could refund me my fee and they declined. I have been using them for years but I think I might switch to another company/processor after this.

I had a Square account for over a year for processing customer CC payments. We have NEVER received a single chargeback. We changed the name of the firm and opened a new account. Within 24 hours Square asked me to verify the account. I did... We uploaded our customer contracts, all of the paperwork for the company registration with the secretary of state, a copy of my valid BAR Card, and my driver's license. In the morning I received an email informing me that my account was suspended and that this decision was final.
Square held $8,000.00 of my money and stated in the email that the funds would be refunded on Nov. 12. Today is Nov 16. I do not have the funds, they were NOT returned to my customers and Square has zero customer assistance to tell me when I will get my money back and where it is being held. This is the WORST Company. DO NOT USE THEM. If you are currently using them find a different solution. They will close your account for no reason, hold your money and there is no person in the company who you can speak to for an update. BEWARE!

I have been a loyal Weebly (now Square) customer since 2009. It has come to my attention that Square has decided to cancel the service I had been faithfully paying for many years and forcing me onto a price plan that is at least double the cost. I get that prices increase but what is irritating is that there was no notification.
I contacting Square to find out what's going on only to be spoken to by a stone cold employee who would only read the pre-printed nonsense Square leadership concocted telling me that I received an email. I scanned every (EVERY) email account I have and found NOTHING. Of course, this Square employee can somehow magically see my emails, right? After 14 years of being a loyal customer, I'm out! If I'm going to pay more, those funds will definitely not be going to Square.

I have used Square for a non-profit for years with my Mardi Gras Krewe. Over the years the board of directors change annually so I haven't been the treasurer for some time. The problem is accessing the account I set up. I called customer service located God knows where that's located with ZERO results. Although I know the login as well as password, give the email address the deposit update, also the log in for the account, the account cannot be found. Customer service is ZERO help no matter how many times you give them the account information, set up, etc. Today I have to find another credit card processor. Square won't help nor do they care about retaining customers. Don't waste your time with Square!

In 5 years I had 2 disputes from crazy customers as a hairstylist. Square just gives them their money back. They do not honor your refund policy which I had listed. When you have a dispute they ask to see where it says no refund and I have provided that and twice they have refunded the money back to people that did not deserve a refund. I even showed photo proof of services rendered and everything and they do not care about you. They side with them every time. Other business owners I know have had the same experience.

I don't understand why they have 5 star reviews in a lot of platforms, I have been with Square for the past 5 years, they used to be good, lately they are getting worse and worse. My terminal all over the sudden is not accepting charges, I have small business, my customers can't wait 30 + minutes I call them to figure out why my terminal is not accepting their payments, customer service make me restart, sign again, factory reset, blah blah blah. Nothing works, they sent me a new terminal and it's worse than the other.
They blamed my Internet. I have the fastest Internet in Florida. Everything else in my office works. Now they want me to send photos of videos of the performance of my terminal and since that doesn't work. They make me load the app on my phone that only takes manual payments. Of course they charged me more fees with manual payments. I'm just small business, be aware the 5 star reviews everywhere else are not real. I have wasted a lot of time and money trying to figure out what's wrong on my end but it's their end what's wrong.

I got my square and set up my account. First time opening the app I got a notice that Square is having server issues. That went on for two days. When the app finally opened another error message stating that the reader failed to connect. I had bluetooth and location up, I had all permissions in place, I it lugged all the way in. 3rd day it finally recognized the square but still had error message "Reader unavailable: Secure session denial". So I called customer service. I chose the receive text message to open chat with customer service but I never received the text so I called back. I was on hokd for 2 HOURS!!! (See pics on all of these) 2 HOURS. I then decided to select call back option that the recording said over and over and over again.
After selecting this option it said "Sorry but we do not have enough information to call you back." What the hell info. do they need besides my phone number? This company has service and customer service issues. Can you imagine being out at a festival and have a connection I problem then not being able to reach customer service in a 2 HOUR PERIOD?!! I haven't even used this piece of junk yet and I'm looking at other companies to see if they care about their customers because SQUARE DOES NOT.

Worst POS I've ever worked with. Hardware regularly shuts down, orders randomly disappear and best of all they have internal/external glitches that won't allow you to access the website, customer service contact number, take credit card or online payments during a lunch hour.

I am utterly disappointed with the Square Payment App and their deceptive practices! One major issue that everyone needs to be aware of is their ability to hold your hard-earned money in your account for a whopping 90 days for absolutely any reason they choose. It’s astonishing how they can hide behind their convoluted terms of service to justify this unjustifiable behavior.
I cannot stress enough how crucial it is for everyone to tread with caution when using this app. You might find yourself in a situation where your funds are frozen without any reasonable explanation, leaving you struggling and frustrated. And even worse, don’t be fooled into thinking that they will promptly release your money right after the 90-day period. Their actual timing is far from predictable or reliable. To make matters worse, the customer service of Square Payment App is an absolute nightmare. Trying to reach a real person who can address your concerns is like searching for a needle in a haystack. They seem to have mastered the art of avoiding accountability, leaving you feeling helpless and cheated.
In conclusion, steer clear of the Square Payment App if you value your financial security and sanity. The risk of having your money held hostage for three months without a valid reason is just not worth it. I am writing to file a formal complaint against Cash App. I have been a customer for years and have always been satisfied with their services until recently. My accounts were closed without any further explanation. On July 5th, 2023, and August 5th 2023 I transferred Bitcoin from an external wallet into an old Cash App account that I no longer have access to. I know for a fact that the transactions all totalling over $364 were sent to the correct Square/Cash App Bitcoin wallet. However, I have not been able to access these funds for over a month. I have contacted Cash App customer support multiple times and have been given the runaround. However, it has been over a month and my funds have not been returned. I have also been told that I need to provide more information about my old Cash App account, but I no longer have access to that account. And I'm unsure which account it was.
I am extremely frustrated with Cash App's customer service and their unwillingness to help me. I have provided them with all of the information that they have asked for, but they still have not been able to help me. I am now out over $300 and I do not know what to do. I am requesting that Cash App immediately release my funds to me. I have been a loyal customer for years and I have never had any problems until now. I contacted Square with some questions about how the numbers on their reports are calculated. In particular, I wanted to know about the Total Collected number. The definition of this number from Square is: - Total Collected: Total amount collected from the customer. The total collected includes net product sales in a given period, tax, tip, Gift Card sales and other cash rounding adjustments collected from the customer. However the numbers do not add up when I do these calculations. Eventually they said that partial payments are included in Total Collected but not Net Sales. I asked where I could find partial payments and they said I didn't have any. So the numbers are out $352.68 and Square has no answers. They eventually told me the conversation had become unproductive and they wouldn't help me. Beware of trusting them with your money because they don't account for it properly.

Opened Square account to accept payment from my clients 1 month ago. Suddenly, they sent an email, saying urgent matter has come up at midnight. I logged into the account and saw they asked for fee agreement to be uploaded to recent invoice issued that night. I don't have access to the agreement at the moment because it is in my computer at my office so I thought I was going to complete this in the morning. 3 hours later, Square deactivated my account and said it was a "FINAL" decision. Seriously, you sent the email in the middle of the night and expect us to response right away? Plus, it is beyond ridiculous.
I called the support team and they said this is final and we need to create a new account. There is no reactivation option. When I said the clients will see us as incompetent and unprofessional because of this, they said so sorry there's nothing they could do. When I ask what can I do to prevent this from happening again, they said they couldn't disclose the reason they terminated the account. SERIOUSLY? I would give 0 star if I could.

After trying to get gas Square froze my bank account due to fraudulent activity. I was stranded at the gas station with no support from Square. I had to use personal funds to fill my gas tank. They refused to release my funds and said my account was under review. The card is only used at gas stations and hardware stores. Square is not even a real bank but a 3rd party between you and real bank. If you value your business use a brick and mortar bank.

Only had them since last fall, receiving payments with NO trouble. So far so good until we had a dispute with a customer about services rendered. We WON the mediation but still offered half of the disputed amount to the client to get it settled. This was 5/27 and it's now 7/31. He fulfilled their request for confirmation and we both agreed to the terms, Square put us through multiple agents, yes per other reviews NOT in the U.S. and reading from a script. Could not expedite his refund DESPITE both parties, us and him, being in agreement. A multiple week runaround, look elsewhere before signing up, Paypal was no better.... Just issued his refund, processed in two days OUTSIDE of Square. The other reviews are right, pay Americans on our soil, we'll pay higher fees, to those who are fluent in English and understand finances. PR Southern NH 27 year business owner.

I know that's too much to ask. I can't tell how many times a simple phone call for support turned into a headache of repetitive times saying one's email name phone and so on. Not even getting to the problem or less likely getting an solution. Ridiculous Square. Stop using and outsourcing out of country to people who barely speak and understand the language let alone can hear us speaking. So frustrating to use a company that is riddled with software challenges and service people who don’t understand English well enough—as a business owner I've about had it!

Our business had a Square account for over two years. We are a physician office that does online visits. We collected payments thru Square with no issues. Then without notice, Square set our account to pending and would not send us our money. Could not get anyone in customer service to explain why our account was pending and what was the issue after two years of using their services. After months of waiting for them to resolve "the issue" we were notified that our account was deactivated. When we asked what was the reason, the reply was that they couldn't give us that information. Square used to be great. Don't know what happened, but they have lost this customer forever! I guess they won't miss the hundreds of dollars in fees they made off of us for the two years they did let us take payments using their system. Clearly, they need to be trained in what good customer relations looks like. Good Riddance!!!!

I opened an account with Square last year, anticipating credit sales with the current economy. We are a 3 man crew, small business. When I tried to charge last week, my account had been suspended, because I did not use it within 90 days. Had to start all over again. Register, etc. Did my first charge on last Monday, and got screwed big time. They got my money, $3,500.-, for us a lot of money, our salaries and expenses. They have been telling me for 5 days, I am under review, we will send it tonight. NADA NADA!!! Their call center is in México, and their workers are trained to tell you it is coming.
In 1 to 2 days you have it, after they first tell you there is information still missing. After you persist that everything is done, please check, they apologize and tell you they will activate the payment immediately, you will have it in 1 to 2 days. Everyday the same story, no managers or supervisor available at your request, when you get mad, they hang up the phone. Unbelievable this is happening in the USA. STAY AWAY FROM SQUARE, THEY ARE SCAMMERS. BIG TIME SCAMMERS. I am sorry I did not look at the reviews first, I am really sorry, am in big trouble now, overdrawn account, not able to pay obligations, etc. I am really sorry I made this mistake. Amado.

I had a break in at my place of business. As a result, I had to cancel my checking account and get a new one. I immediately put in my new banking information to the Square POS and separately to the Payroll Banking info. The original processed payroll was returned by my bank due to the account being closed. I cannot process the old payroll because SQUARE STILL hasn't deposited my funds for the past 9 days. They have now shortened the time I have to process payroll in the future from 2 days to 4 days prior, and are threatening me to close my Square Payroll account if I don't reimburse them for the payroll they couldn't pull from the old account.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to speak to someone on the phone who you can understand or who understands the issues at hand. This is after going through the phone tree and speaking to 3 different people about the situation. DON'T use this system unless you are prepared for frustration when handling unexpected situations. I am still waiting for the deposits to be made into the new account, which means I've had to do without cash flow for 9 days in a business doing over $20k per week in credit card sales. It's crushing me and my business. Never SQUARE again.

After putting a good deal of time into setting up an eCommerce site, Square terminated my account after the very first sale, with no explanation as to why. My site did not violate any of their published terms and conditions (I was selling Christmas-themed handmade wood craft items). When I called their support number, the automated system merely restated that my account had been terminated and there was no option to get through to an actual person to find out why.

I am a small business owner and decided to use Square as the credit card processor for my business. I took my first credit card sale on July 11, 2023 and Square held my funds with no reason except to keep saying my account under review? They asked me to submit my driver's license 3 times, link my bank acct 3 times, asked for the sales agreement and credit card authorization 3 times, asked me to take a selfie, the list goes on and on. I submitted everything they asked for plus the customer called in twice and asked them, "Why have you not paid this company?" I ended up after 2 weeks of issuing a refund to customer who is now paying cash. We had completed 90% of the customers' job too. I would tell any small business owner, "Stay away from Square, they will bankrupt your business." They should be investigated for fraud, criminal practices and held accountable. I am for a class action lawsuit.

For nearly a year, we have tried to get Square to fix a problem with the on-line menu for the restaurants system. When we change the availability for menu items, frequently the system will undo the changes, repeatedly! We have communicated this problem to numerous contacts at Square and the problem is still not resolved. (We get bounced around to various people at Square who are supposed to help.) Instead of allocating resources to fix the problem, Square is putting out new features. Unless you want to be constantly checking the on-line menu to ensure that your menu changes are still live, find another vendor. That's what we'll be doing.

I don't know why my account was deactivated. Other tech vendors use this platform yet you guys deny it and are now holding funds that I used with my business card. If you guys decided to cancel it why let the invoice go through just to hold my funds? This is unprofessional and I want reasons why it was canceled. After the payment goes thru a day later they send an email saying they don't support my business and now want to hold my funds for 90 days. Who's going to pay for the parts I already ordered? I used my Square debit card at a atm two weeks ago. I let atm time out and monies returned to machine on a Saturday. Contact atm service. They told me what Square needed to do to return my cash l lost!! Square has yet to help me achieve my money mishap, very upsetting considering when I charge a client 100.00 for service I get 79.98 deposit into Square account and immediately Square gets its % for the service. ** I’m better off using a cash app and once I acquire my loss $, I will definitely be considering such! Be careful what you invest in. I'm at a low economic point and my lost funds again. Atm company said getting back simply required contacting bank, giving the case number and a code to file to reverse the transaction. Has went now two weeks of email following email yet no credit sucks!!!

I was selling on the app and I refunded my customer due to their app having issues. The customer had a pending refund that then disappeared. I contacted Square customer service 7 different times and was told 7 different things. Disconnected twice and told verbatim in chat "We will no longer be discussing this with you." The customer had a printout from the bank showing that there is nothing pending, only a posted amount.
The customer did a three way call with me and their bank where they confirmed that Square sent a refund and then withdrew it and no deposits were coming in and that the original deposit had been sent back. When I told Square this, they refused to help. So the money has been stolen by Square. I have documentation of everything and screen recorded all conversations. I am hoping to find someone to help me expose this company for the frauds they are. 7 different people and none of them helped.

They are the absolute worse company to trust when it comes to credit card information. In brief, they have allowed a fraudulent company to create an account with my company info and charge random credit cards. THEN denied the transactions ever happened, even though we had the receipts from the people that were scammed. PS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!

First they are holding my funds for 90 days because I offered a non-alcoholic tasting event - apparently, they don’t think events are a safe bet for sales and anything named such will send up an alarm within their service and no one in CS will be able to explain why they are holding your money. Cannot get an answer. Absolutely unsavory business practices.
The other is a bug in their system that happened when I changed my address. Now my site is not accepting payments and I’ve sat on the phone for hours with CS with no results! They tell me they’re “working hard” on a resolution but it’s been a week already! I can fix bugs in my stripe WordPress site in less than a few hours so apparently they don’t have enough people with this issue or the staffing to support it. I have over 100 products in their system so changing is not what I want to do, because all my customers, over 6000, are in there too. My livelihood and survival is based on their service. This company needs to be reprimanded for their unjust business practices and interfering with the laws of interstate commerce.

I am launching my brand new startup this weekend and as part of that I was attempting to order online advertising. I have read other bad reviews of Square, so I cautiously transferred $100 into the Square checking account. I then attempted to pay for Google Ads using my Square debit card. They declined to payment and locked my account for fraudulent activity. Customer service says they need 2-3 business days to review and I simply have to wait for them to contact me. It's the weekend, so I'm stuck waiting. Way to go Square! You just lost a new customer on their first transaction for a very small amount of money. Thank god I was smart enough not to transfer my operating funds to Square or I would be unable to launch on time.

This company is run by fraudsters, got invite to open account with them, used Stripe in the past so said let's compare it. First setup process was impossible. Reader didn't work. Had multiple businesses to bring over. Tried to create account as corporation and solo proprietorship and it was impossible to add multiple entities under same profile. Also reader doesn't work, spent 3 hours with, tried to disable developer mode on the phone but it didn't work. Anyways did test transaction and got email that account wasn't approved with no option to reply. Tried to use support but can't reach anyone which is very unprofessional for size of company like theirs and money is now locked in the account with no way to contact them. Support says, "Try to reply to accounts team" but email says no reply!!!!

They claim we do not meet their guidelines for acceptable businesses all-of-a-sudden, yet there are minimum of 4 other, exact businesses using Square in Austin, TX and over 80 in the State of Texas. We believe the discrimination is due to our support of certain human rights. DO NOT do business with discriminatory lenders like Square.

First they opened my account, validated bank, submitted docs, allowed me to create invoice and customer made payment, payment was successful, Square charged hefty fees and within few hrs they described my account, holder fund by saying will transfer after 90 days, when called answered was, "We will not give your money." And that was more than $2000, I have never seen such a fraud company, why it was allowed me to create invoice, allowed customer to make payment and when money came they blocked. Such a cheater fraud company. Don’t do business with them. And we are small business owned by women.

I thought this was going to be a great option for my business. Especially considering the high fees compared to some other companies offering the same services. However after I’ve taken my first 2 payments I’ve realized now just how terrible the experience is. Not only is it somewhat confusing to get my money out. But the customer support team does not make helping someone a priority at all. After having issues connecting my bank, I reached out to customer support only to be ignored after about 3 replies.
Then I decided to take it upon myself to open an account with Square to be able to finally access my money, oh wait… their virtual card service is down. I’m not sure who, if anyone will see this. But it will be copied and pasted everywhere I can and I also plan to find out more on the owner of Square as a company and do my very best to make sure this is seen by them. This is pretty annoying as I was paid almost 4 days ago and STILL cannot access my funds. The one thing this company boasts about being able to do, they can’t even do properly.

It seems like every three purchases people make on my Square account for home remodeling is always delayed by square putting a hold on the deposit. 100% would never recommend Square to use for any camp business. Any kind of anything they are terrible. If you need the money or if your company's money for payroll or something, they will not give it to you. They put on hold so they do not have to give you the money. I think it is a scam. Please go to Clover. I heard nothing but good things about clover and I’m transferring over there. I’m not gonna deal with Square anymore. It’s just a runaround and the ** they give you did you have to answer a bunch of questions and they hold your money. They won’t refund the people their money. I have been using Square for about 2 years, I had a client who I had to manually enter her debit card information and the transaction was approved, however, Square decided to hold the transaction. So they wanted all this information so I decided let me refund the funds and maybe she could pay another way, well in order to refund the money I still had to answer those same questions, so I did and provided proof.
They eventually released the funds back to the client's account, well come to find out that was the only way the client could pay so since they said my account was verified and good to take purchases I tried it again about 2 days later and I gave my client $40 off for the trouble and of course Square decides to hold my transaction now because they need to verify my transfer to my bank account even though I NEVER requested a transfer because they NEVER even released the funds to me! I'm so done with them, I will NEVER EVER use them again after I'm finished with this stupid verification again. They will make you lose clients.

Worst customer service ever. in 30 min, they transfer me over 5 departments. None of them speak good English or are trained to ask the right questions. Well to say the least I have had after 5 years in business a new base of customers that wanted to pay by credit card. I had used Square in the past but shame on me for not looking up reviews about this company. I have only had 2 charges so far. I am a contractor and will never have a chargeback. Square decided that my monthly limit would be $4,000/month and the rest they would hold 20% for 120 days. Are you kidding me. I am not even sure that is legal.
I had tried calling and every customer rep I got in touch with spoke terrible English. They just spin in circles and I never gave my name or account even once and then I got an email that I was no longer privy to calls any longer! This makes no sense. I never even said who I was and they are telling me I was no longer able to call. So then why if they knew who I was did I have to tel them. I was only asking for a US rep or a supervisor and they kept going in circles. Please do not ever use this company. I am pretty sure they are pure evil and from the reviews I have been reading they better be thankful they didn’t try to mess with my money. What a bunch of clowns.

Square chose to deactivate my account on short notice. Once deactivated it was not possible to talk to a live person anymore. Only via email. It took 4 month to get my money back. Process was not straightforward at all and very difficult.

You cannot rely on Square to release balances on time. They say the reviews are random but HALF my transactions have triggered entire weekend long + 2 day reviews. Can't pay vendors if I tried! Support is entirely unhelpful and will simply tell you, in great detail, how useless they truly are. For any small business that requires paying vendors, buying materials per job, or frankly, ANYONE AT ALL, should steer 100% AWAY from square. There are better competitors out there.

I have worked with many Merchant Services vendors. Never have I had a company randomly hold a large transaction and request highly invasive additional verifications. As a small business owner, the funds collected are used to purchase the equipment and pay the crew for installations. Square seriously hampered my ability to perform the work needed and made me look very unprofessional with my client. I was forced to refund the payment to my customer and wait for them to receive it and then take payment via check instead.
Square has terrible customer service and I was given 3 different answers each time I called. Taking 1-3 days to conduct the verification process is ridiculous for an ecommerce company. My customers bank would/could have notified them and confirmed the transaction if there was a question about it. After reading all of the others who have had similar experiences I will no longer be using Square.

We are a small family business that specializes in the cultivation and sale of gourmet mushrooms. We thought Square would meet our needs for handling card payments at farmer’s markets. Started an account and was able to process payments without any issues. Issue started when we attempted to link our Square account to our business bank account. First attempt failed. Thinking we may have provided wrong info, we tried again. While the second attempt was in process of being validated, we noticed that the Square app. stopped accepting card payments and required account activation. We also noticed the funds we had in our account had disappeared. Customer support was emailed, explaining the issues.
We got a response back the next day saying after review, our account has been deactivated and the decision is final. Square refused to even let us know why or even offer a recourse. They simply referred us to sections 12 and 13 of their service policy which basically states they had a right to deactivate accounts for any reason. We called Square support and they refused to explain the reason for the deactivation. We are extremely upset that we would be treated this way and to have a company withhold funds that we earned.
Very strongly do not recommend this company. They will deactivate your account without hesitation and will not even let you know why. It would have been nice if Square reached out to us if there was an issue and we would have been more than happy to validate our business, etc. Square actually suggested that we start a new account with them. We asked them if they could tell us what we can do differently to prevent the deactivation of the new account, they again refused and told us to either create a new account or find a different company. We found a different company.

After using Square for 10 years, out of nowhere, they froze two of my accounts asking for more business information. I provided all information they requested. The next day they disabled my accounts and said all money was frozen for 150 days. I'm dumbfounded that they can "steal" my money that they also charged a fee to take. Frankly I can use any credit card processor and bank so cancel it but keeping my money - wth! Poor business practice and by all the recent negative reviews, something else is going on with them.

This company is a scam. I received a payment 8 months ago and still haven't gotten my money. They wanted personal information I would not share and it was unreasonable they ask for it. They closed my account and said they would transfer my funds to my account in 3 months. That never happened and I never received an explanation either. I talked to them on the phone and now they tell me to call back in 1 to 2 business days while the "team" reviews it. As far as I can tell they do this to countless people and the reason I think why is so they can accrue interest on your money. There's nothing you can do about it either so steer clear of this company if you want to get ripped off.

After receiving a payment from my dad to help buy my daughter's graduation gift they immediately suspended my account and ask for proof. I know this person and messages between us. I provided all info needed as well as proof. They then told me I can no longer use Square for my business and to refund my Dad.. This is discrimination and just completely uncalled for.. My dad has already put a check in the mail but for Square to do this after proof is uncalled for. I understand making sure there is no fraudulent activity but once proof is sent along with phone numbers, text messages and so on it should have been resolved! We are a small ecommerce store. Square does not provide secure payment method for online payment. As soon as I connected Square payment method to our ecommerce store, we started getting lot of transactions than before. After 1 month, all of them reported payment dispute as those are done by scam people through Square online payment. Square did not provide any help on solving payment dispute. Their customer service did not respond at all and ignore our cases. Totally unprofessional people work on the customer service team. We ended up losing lot of money from those disputes. We immediately disconnected their payment method. We will never use it again nor will recommend it to anyone. Square is a very illegitimated and unprofessional business.

Terrible customer service and fraud protection investigation team. We are a small apparel manufacturer operating **. We tried Square for merchant credit card processing after using PayPal for the past 20 years. Started out easy and painless. Then we began processing transactions. Immediately they started flagging our reputable and repeat customers payments as fraud. It seems as if they wanted to just hold the money our customers paid for our product.
They suggested that the transaction was fraud and after three days of asking for additional supporting information, they recommended that we refund our customer. The refund would take another 7-10 days. This order was for an honest customer. We provided documents showing that they were a repeat buyer and reputable school. No effort was made on Square's part to assist. The call center sounded like an overseas scam. Do not waste your time or effort with this company. An investigation needs to be done on the mishandling and hold of our funds.

While Square is good for processing payments received for any CC or Debit card sale... DO NOT use Square when making check deposits! They will hold it LONGER than a banking institution would. I made a small check (mobile) deposit of $50 just to test the length of time it would take them to clear it. The check had already cleared our company acct. 3 days ago. Called Square and they could not even release it due to "different variables". When asked what these would be... agent noted "clarity of picture" (?), "endorsement", etc. etc. etc. Seriously?? So imagine if the deposit was of a bigger amount (which in that case I would understand... but this is $50 dollars!)... you'll be without the funds for longer than usual. I'll select another banking/payment processing entity to run my small business with.

Square is fast to welcome businesses aboard, to start holding onto your money and process your payments. But they're famous for deciding on a whim that you're actually not the right kind of business to use their platform, so they lock away your funds for 90 days and shut down your incoming payments. And will they tell you why? No. Will they explain anything? No. Is there anything you can do about it? No. There is no recourse. They'll just tell you that the user agreement says they have a right to do this to you. We have no idea why they've locked a significant amount of our revenue away until June, but they won't listen or reason with us on it. Disaster.

If you can afford to have your funds held in captivity for months and months and your account deactivated because they decided that the very personal information you uploaded isn't sufficient indentity verification, then go for it, sign right up. If you want to process cards and have access to your money that you earned, go somewhere else and don't look back. Run, don't walk away from these crooks. This is the second review I've left in my life, so you know I'm furious. They make it brainless to sign up, you breeze right through setting up, well, basically your whole business on their dashboard, invoicing, card processing, you name. It's a great platform. The people running it are the problem.
These other reviews, sure with I'd have researched and read these before signing up, processed a couple of cards, then the big sale and card entry, ooops, flagged, under review, then deactivated and all funds held for at least 90 days. How nice! I love that for me. If you see me and my big rump on only fans, stay in your lane, I need money because Square screwed me out of my earnings.

Whatever you do, do not use Square for your credit card needs! My company has been with Square for years with zero problems no charge backs never had any issues until two weeks ago. A couple of weeks ago my company did some work for a home owner and the bill was just a little under $5k. We took the credit card over the phone like we always have then a few days later I noticed that the money was never deposited into my account. I then called the homeowner to make sure he was charged and he told me his card was charged for the full amount. That same day I get an email from Square saying the transaction looks fraudulent and requested more information. So I did everything they asked for but the website would not allow me to upload the invoice. I tried to call them but everything is done through an online chat session.
It took over 30mins for them to finally come into the chat room which by then I was doing other things and never saw their comments so they left the chat. The next day I did the same thing and got a response a little faster but then I had a call come in and when I didn't answer them fast enough they left the chatroom again. Finally the 3rd day I was finally able to give the hours they needed and that person was able to get me into their system so I could call in. When I called in I was able to email the girl the invoice and she told she got it the email and would call me back after the review. Literally two mins later I get an email saying my account was closed and I would have to wait 120 days for me to get the money.
I called the customer to let them know what was going on and to see if he could get his money back but square refused to release his money back to him. I look square up on the BBB and I saw over 5000 reviews saying they did the exact same thing to me to other businesses. So I left a review on BBB and of course they wrote me back within hours. They are still saying they won't release me the money and telling me that I can refund the customer but I haven't got any money to refund, they still have all the funds. I never write bad reviews but after this experience I don't want any small business to have to deal with this. DO NOT USE square to run your credit cards!

These big companies are taking advantage of smb owners and keeping the money for an extended period (I had zero fraud/chargebacks on my account). Be careful because if you do good volume they will keep this money and use an "excuse" to keep it for 90 days - Don't bother with this SQUARE - and to top it off, a US based manager is harder to get in touch than the white house itself! They don't take calls, or handle cases - Square is going to go down at this rate!

I have a small website, and for a short time sold some CBD. Apparently Square does not allow this. So I have taken all cbd off my website. However, Square suspended my acct ability to transfer money. It has been months now of calling and being told my problem is being "escalated". Nothing happens. They don't contact me afterwards and I can never speak to anyone with the ability to solve the problem.

As a small business owner I decided to utilize the Square debit/checking account so everything was all in one. Wishful thinking on my part. Randomly yesterday, my debit card declined. No notice was given of my card being frozen via email, text or call. I call customer care and I am told that my account state is “under review” and that is why my transactions are declining. I am told I cannot expedite the call by 5 different CSRs. I have to wait 1-2 business days for someone to review my account and then it could possibly be frozen for longer. So, Square can lock my debit card, which I use as my main debit, but not allow a service that would allow me to verify my previous transactions to “unfreeze” my account. This action is criminal. Money in MY own account that I do not have access to at all. For people thinking about using Square, run for the hills. Square, do not offer banking features if you cannot give support where and when needed.

I have been a loyal customer to Square business for a few months, paying my fees, upgrading my invoicing and estimates, and never have I had a chargeback on any cards, never had any issues with payments, and have a 5-star company. Square randomly deactivated my account and is holding money for deposits made by my customers for services and materials and my own money and will not release my money to me until at least 90 days. I had to close my whole business down because I've changed everything to Square as far as paying my employees and part money all through them. I have lost so much money by not having my online store open and they still will not give me any explanation of why they are holding my money in the thousands of dollar range. I'm beyond outraged!!
Be very careful with the crookedness of this company, I cannot even get ahold of anyone that has an answer for me. I literally had to call them from a different phone number that they didn't have on file for me because they blocked my number so I couldn't get a live person and not to mention they kept all the credit card fees for the money they are holding. I've looked online and found that I'm not the only person this had happened to and this is a trend for this company using your money for them to make their stocks go up gaining interest until they release your money. I've also found that many of these people still have not received their money after months later. I will be getting an attorney and I will blast this company on every online site that I can to make small business owners like myself aware of this crooked company. Yes, it was super easy to sign up. I made my first sale and then was sent to review. They are asking for personal information about my clients. WHICH IS A HIPAA VIOLATION BY THE WAY! They were not given authorization from my clients to have their information released to Square. It seems they are doing fraudulent activity behind those of us who are using Square. Asking for personal and sensitive information is very suspicious. I had to purchase the magnet stripe ready for my iPad to run those credit cards that don't have a chip and they sent me an email that they are refunding me the money for violation of services and high-risk activity. Serious about ordering hardware! I think we need to do a class action lawsuit against square because after reading these comments they have caused a lot of businesses to be put in jeopardy and something needs to be done about it.

I am a physician specializing in obesity medicine/weight loss. My health coach collects payments directly from patients. A few weeks ago I decided to use Square to process credit card payments. Things were going fine, with funds being deposited into my bank account in a reasonable manner. Recently Square notified me that my funds (over $2300) were being held until 11 questions were answered. I reviewed these required questions and found them entirely unreasonable. Square was requiring access to my bank account to review activity and balances; they wanted patient invoices uploaded; they wanted patient information like emails, etc. I told Square this was inappropriate, none of their business, and would not provide them this information. I was told my funds would consequently not be released.
Yesterday, a kind customer service rep Willy suggested that I just "refund my customers". Seriously? How is that in any way a reasonable solution? My "customers" are patients, and I'm in a SERVICE business (weight loss). Refunds are not an option. He then told me it could take 90 days to receive my money. Also not acceptable. This morning I received an email confirming that the only way to receive my funds is to answer their questions and upload the required information. I am firing them. I will not be subject to the accessing of my funds contingent on answering unreasonable and inappropriate questions. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. Utilizing Square services was a mistake. Square notified me of suspicious charges, all of which from one day, and all of which were fraudulent. They took 4.5 months to put the money back in my account temporarily. 6 months later they took it back. Some of these were known to be fraudulent from doing a simple Google search. Every time I contacted them I got the same result, they were escalating it to their disputes team and I would hear back 1-2 days. I never once heard back from them. It was only by checking my account that I found I lost the disputes. Apparently there is no appeals process other than engaging an attorney. The high fees along with this terrible customer service and their inability to know what is actually fraudulent make them a poor resource for handling your money.

INSTALL SQUARE AT YOUR OWN PERIL!!! If you are an honest small business that is dependent on getting paid in a timely manner THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A GOOD BUSINESS FOR YOU. GS GIGS LLC is my business. I am a handyman that does all my work up front even buying materials first before charging the client including Air conditioners and or appliances then I install them. Only then do I charge the client. I have a total of 5 credit card paying clients which I have had for over 3 years. With a total of 22 clients. In 3 years I have had 0 yes that is a 0 complaints! 5 of those clients approached me about taking credit cards so I signed up to square and at first for about a month it was fine. Then out of the blue with no explanation they started holding 100% of my customers payments to me for approximately 1 week.
After I would call and talk to their horrible customer service, I would get an email with a bunch of question resulting in the same response we have to investigate to make sure it is not fraud. Every time for the same 5 clients. Of course they would not call the client to confirm they would just randomly deposit the money into my account about a week later with no explanation. This would happen multiple times with the same 5 clients. No new clients no new or out of the ordinary charges.
I finally was working at a clients house who worked for Square and I complained to him so they said they would compromise and only take 20% and hold it as a reserve for 60 days chargebacks or complaints were filed, they would release it. They informed me that it would be temporary FOR 6 MONTHS (THEN) after six months if there were no complaints then it would be reviewed and removed. (Since they said the reason they were doing this was I was a new client and they wanted to make sure there was no fraud. I didn't like it but at least it was a logical reason and a def time period that I could look forward to.
So for six months they have taken 20% out for 60 days. I only have 5 clients I had no complaints, no chargebacks and nothing out of the ordinary so when I called last week they said it would be 3 to 5 days and it would be removed. Afterwards still nothing. So I called again yesterday they said it would be 24 hours so then I called again today and after hearing the same it’ll be another 3 to 5 business days I got frustrated and then the next email I received was they aren’t changing anything and they will continue to remove 20%.

I don’t take payment upfront, I don’t have any complaints, I only have 5 credit card clients, I don’t have any chargebacks and I’m not new (according to square) SO LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE AND DON'T SIGN UP FOR SQUARE.

My wife and I run a business which has a trust account connected to Square. We signed up and had one of our client made our first transaction. Square put money on hold in March 2022 and still keeps it. We have called Square for a resolution and they keep telling us that their technology malfunctioned and they are looking into it. The amount our client paid was almost $20,000, which was supposed to be used to rent their home. Imagine the frustration when that rent wasn’t happening and Square keeps the money for almost a year!!
Then Square representative said the money was finally available and will be deposited to our bank. But instead, Square tech tried taking another almost $20,000 from our bank! Thanks to Bank of America who blocked the transaction as fraud. Square is a fraud indeed!! Now our Square account shows zero balance and we still did not get the money to refund to our client. What a sham! They say they are in technology business….

Square cut my customer phone support when I suspected them to be a phishing inquiry. I found out someone had changed my phone number on their site. I never log into it. The entry had to be on their server. I have both emailed and snail mailed request to reinstate phone support. They refuse! I am now looking for another credit card processing company. DO NOT EXPECT HELP FROM THIS COMPANY! I own a computer repair company so I help several clients each week who have been hacked. Square did not understand my concerns at the questions they were asking to verify my account, they appeared to be phishing questions.

Two days later they tried to pull out 3k from my account for some debt a comp has with a similar name as ours with different tax numbers but they took the money from us. We are disputing this with our bank.

Buyer beware. They will allow you to sign up in a breeze and run cards so easily. The next day, they will ask for an exorbitant amount of information. Then, they will cancel your account while you have numerous transactions pending in limbo for up to 90 days. You will lose trust and confidence from your customers and they keep growing. This company is a sham.

I tried to get a login issue resolved with Square and their response was completely inadequate. They asked me to send in a video of myself logging in and still failed to acknowledge there was a problem. So I decided I wanted nothing more to do with them. It is impossible to call them and to speak to a human being. I tried to return my POS equipment, admittedly 2 days over their 30 day return deadline, but the chatbot could only tell me their policy was 30 days. Period. I could not get a referral to a supervisor or an agent on the phone. Their equipment is sleek and their sales pitch seductive, but their customer support is among the worst I've ever encountered and the experience has driven me to toss their POS in the lake and go with a competitor. DO NOT BE SEDUCED BY SQUARE'S SLICK ADVERTISING. DEALING WITH THEM IS A NIGHTMARE.

When I first set up my company with Square everything worked smoothly and fine. But at some point they stopped depositing my customer's payments into my account. I’ve called several time and keep getting the run around. I’m being told my account is “Under Review”. I’m not sure what. That means but it’s been three months and they have over $100,000 of my money that they will not release to me. What am I supposed to do?

I believe Square's refusal to complete my sales transaction may have been racial profiling, and discriminatory against me. The customer was my father, who chose to give me a Christmas gift and support my business as an artist. The transaction was verified by his bank, Lloyd's Bank of UK. This was done before we did the sales transaction using Square. Lloyd's, one of the most reputable banks in England approved the transfer of funds, yet Square put me through 3 weeks of review, no opportunity to speak to anyone involved in the actual review, only to refuse me after seeing my passport photo and social media account.
I am totally appalled at the review process, with absolutely no way to speak to someone in the accounts department or someone involved in the decision making process. Only customer service representatives giving false information about approval dates..."2 business days and the money will transfer to my bank account" on multiple occasions, raising my expectations and in the end my disappointment. No way to appeal, just a loss of income that was much needed and honestly earned at a most crucial time, the Christmas holidays. After seeing my passport photo and social media accounts, they refused the transaction, insisting I issue a refund and responded that it was a "credit card scam", via email from a nonreply account.

I use the Square app for booking my clients and processing their cc. Over the years they keep finding new ways to nickel and dime my account for everything. Their customer service department is rude and hard to understand. It is a hassle to use them these days. Looking for a better way.

Our Square account was deactivated for no reason (all questions and information was provided). They deactivated it right after a sizeable invoice was paid on our account and are holding our funds for 90 days for no reason. I have called and called and begged them to at a minimum refund the payment to our client which would be no risk for them. They refuse to do anything for 90 days. They have taken our funds as an interest free loan. We are a small business and this is a significant amount of money. Trying to get ANY information from them is borderline impossible. They refuse to let me speak with a manager and they keep repeating a script. Do not do business with Square unless you are ok with them stealing your money for 90 days for no reason.

Square accepted payment from my customer, and let me make the original invoice without letting me know that they suspended deposits. So they accepted the deposit and then locked it up. So dissatisfied. What a terrible service. Will not use again, and will warn others about this.

I have been with they have changed for the worse. I've been with them for years but now suddenly they do not transfer my money into my bank. This is the third and last time I use them for they give the following claims each time I call:
2. We need your legal name and date of birth and bank account number.
3. Sorry, someone will call you or we cannot verify who you are.
4. They don't know why I'm not getting my money.
5. They want a copy of my driver's license.

We've been using Square for our store's online presence and payment handling since September of 2022. Today, without any explanation, they simply deactivated our account and are now holding whatever remains in our balance for 90 days. I've called and have been on the phone with their customer support who told me to reply to the email. That email is noreply@help-messaging.squareup.com... They've already charged us our subscriptions for the month of December which they are now making very difficult to be refunded. This has been a very big blow to our small business. This has essentially put us down for at least the entire month of December. I would recommend going literally anywhere else.

I have tried them 2 times both times as soon as I processed a charge. They refused to release the money, this time closed my account promising my funds would be released Nov 13, 2022. After multiple attempts to contact them, they have since blocked my number from getting a person. They said 3 days ago it was deposited to my account on file, still not there, nowhere to be found, no one to talk to.

This is hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with. My company has been having a serious ongoing financial mistake that happened with Square. Nobody will do anything about it. Every time we speak with a Rep, it's a different story, a different answer, or nobody knows what is going on. Their lack of communication is by far the worst part about them. It's been 4 months and we still do not have a resolution to our issue. No matter how many times we ask to speak with a supervisor, we get told that "They don't have supervisors" and there is no real person to transfer us to.
We get assured we will get an email within 3-5 business days and that never comes. We get assured we will get a phone call and they never call. It's at the point that we now have to file legal action against Square. How does a big credit card processing company not have any Manager to speak with??? Our issue would be resolved in one phone call but apparently that is too much to ask for. 0 stars.

I use Square for my small business. Currently I have money in my Square account but it is not being transferred to my bank account. I have been calling them for months about this. I was told in September that my bank account has been verified; I have an email confirming this and telling me money would be deposited to my account. No such luck. Today when I called, I was told that my bank account is being verified and they will "reach out to me" in 24 hours. I cannot tell you how many times I have been told that but no one reaches out. Further, income from earlier in November has not been added to my Square account balance. I have tried to speak with a supervisor, but only get a general message with no option to leave a voice mail. Be careful using Square!

They collected my client's money from their credit cards and then refused to allow me to transfer it! I delivered sensitive info to them like my driver's license and bank statements all for them to come back and tell me they would transfer the funds in 90 days??? Then I refunded the money to my client to reinvoice through another service and Square deactivated my account. Stay Away!!! PayPal business costs more for transactions, but they're so much better to work with.

Square keeps putting my money on hold every time I take a payment daily. I have a auto repair shop and customer pays deposit so I can order their parts then money gets put on hold and I can't order parts. Their customer support sucks!!! Your money is basically stolen and you can't do anything about it!!!

I made a mistake of choosing Square from my travel agency. When I opened the account they opened without any problem. As my business grew, customers started rolling in, my demand to use square for payment solution for travelers paying with credit card grew. In the middle of the transaction, Square deactivated my account flagging it high risk. Now keep in mind I collect credit card copies, ID's and travelers sign credit card authorization forms, but still SQ decided to cancel my account. I lost customers as the fares change because I had to refund the money to their card and requested them to pay me by other means. anyone would get upset and it is Squares' fault and I swear this is the worst company to ever deal with. STAY AWAY.

After years of being a Square Customer in both our companies, we received notice that our square account had been suspended due "suspicious activity." We suspect it was due to our hosting our HUGE annual fundraising gala the weekend prior (which we host EVERY year) and having processed many additional donations due to the success of our event. Regardless, this shut our business down!
Upon calling SQUARE customer service immediately, we were told that our concern would be transferred to another department and someone would be in touch. Until then, we would remain out of business! They said there was NO-ONE they could escalate our call to. That was over two weeks ago and after two more attempts to reach a Square representative, we continued to receive the exact same response and we've still never heard from anyone. They simply left us closed down with customer service telling us there was NOTHING they could do!!! We have since switched to a POS company that our local bank recommended with a bank representative we can go to with any problems! They actually BEAT Square's percentage. We've since learned of countless companies suffering the same stress and losses due to Square's non-US based and non-existent customer service!

I wanted to let others know the awful experience I am having with Square. I am a small business and want to take credit card payments. I have been trying to set up the Square account since August and it is now November. I have verified all of my information, including my bank and it will take payments but still will not transfer the funds. I have had multiple phone calls and have been treated as if I don't have two brain cells to rub together, very condescending. Am looking into other alternatives. Not worth the time or energy.

DO NOT USE SQUARE. I have had nothing but trouble with this company. First they deactivated my account for no reason, then held my money and would not pay it out for 90 days. It is well passed the 90 days and still have not received my funds. Also when you try to call the customer service line to find out why your account was deactivated or why your funds are withheld they do not take your calls. I had to block my number in order to get someone from customer support on the line who STILL would not pay my funds, and could not give me an ETA. I had to issue a refund for a customer 90 days after their payment, and the customer has not received the refund and it has been 3 weeks. This is horrible please do yourself a favor and do not use square.

I processed a customer's credit card payment on Tuesday 9/20/2022. The payment immediately from AMEX. After hours on the phone with Square, I have yet to be able to have the funds transferred. It is not 9/27/2022 and the payment still is not able to be transferred. I called Square to verify the payment on 9/20/2022 and went through the verification process and I was assured it would clear in 2 days. Then I called back on 9/26/2022 and had a very long conversation and was assured an email and call back and funds would be transferred in 12 hours, I got nothing!
Called again today, 9/27/2022 (a full week after the fact) and was assured it would be transferred in 3 days. I am a small business owner with subcontractors fixing to book other jobs because I can't pay them for this job. Square would not agree to transfer me to a higher manager, speak to a legal team member and ended my call. They have held $42,295.78 for 7 days now and I still have not gotten a call back from them or an email or any resolution. I may have to seek legal help, this is ridiculous and fraudulent.

I got hacked. Zero customer service. Never got a phone call back once. Called at least 9 times after I finally found a number. They would only refund part of my money because they don't refund anything stolen older than 30 days. I'm out over $500! Hacker changed my email, added their phone number to my acct and opened a Square card and used the bank acct info to spend all my $. I found all this out myself and closed the square card myself. Square literally did nothing to help me!

I have been a customer of Weebly when I first built my business website, and then sadly they were bought out by Square. I don't have a lot of transactions, but my funds are always available after a transaction, and I sometimes get large amount transactions. This morning I had a payment from a customer that I had to manually key in their transaction and a couple of times their bank declined the transaction because of protecting them. Understandable, and after the third time the transaction went through.
Now this damn merchant Square is holding my funds pending some stupid automated review. This has never happened in all the years I was forced into using them for a merchant. This is unacceptable and just another way for banks today holding onto our money illegally when it rightfully belongs to us, not them. I am so sick and tired of this brown stuff and no one wants to hold these banks accountable for their behavior. So, hopefully someone reading this complaint will never use this banking institution for their merchant transactions. I wish I had another one, but PayPal is the only other one, and they are just as bad.

I’ve been using Square for my small business for a couple of years now with no issues… until my account was hacked. The hacker not only changed my email, phone number, and bank information.. but they charged $200 to themselves and are now trying to “dispute” that I stole this money from them. They even changed the bank account info back to mine so that the money was taken from them originally and now will come from ME in the dispute. I have tried and tried to get Square to help me and challenge this dispute but when I call Customer Support I am told by a robot that “Square can no longer help or support my business due to fraudulent activity.” THAT IS WHY I NEED HELP! Emailing them is no better, as a robot responds telling you to just change your password. Extremely frustrated by the support system behind innocent victims of fraud. This is going to ruin my business if I don’t have the ability to speak to a real human.

Now Square does have the money that my customer paid and they are holding it for 90 days. This is completely unfair and very disappointed. I run a family business and we had 4 purchases that were all fraudulent for a total of almost $1800. Square notified us on 3 of the disputed weeks later after our camera footage had expired and we couldn't do anything about it. The card was present and signed for 3 times by the same person but square did nothing to help and the bank (which square won't tell us what bank or any customer info) sided with the thief. As a small business owner, this was a ridiculous process. Are we supposed to card every person now? We have used square for years processing tons of sales. You would think they would be a better company. I do not recommend using square. There are better companies with lower rates out there. Thanks for nothing!

For them to freeze a business acct and not offer a way to immediately rectify the situation to the owner is beyond me. They in fact completely disable a company to be able to do business, but they call it protecting the business. How is it protecting the business If you are completely taking away their ability to conduct business?

First sale on my website & they halted all my brick and mortar business transfers to "verify" my account. Asked me to perform tasks that are literally impossible. Online customer service useless. They only tell you to call in & wait for hours. Haven't fixed it days later. Data glitches, expensive equipment. And never link your Etsy. Etsy will take a cut of EVERY transaction on Square, no matter if it's an Etsy sale or not. GO WITH YOUR BANK, no matter how much more it costs! Square is not worth the hassle. I deeply regret this choice.

We use Square before Covid and had no problems. Then we had a check bounce. We found out square hadn't deposited since May. It's now July. We called they said because we hadn't used it. Well we didn't have business, we provide Corporate event services. Well of course we didn't. It was Covid. So we had to change passwords, verify identity, told us it should be 1 to 2 days. Now we had never received any notice prior. Then 7 days passed. We called and they said it was still under review. Waited another week, called them and we had to change our password again and verify everything again. So now it's mid August and still no money. They have over 8000 dollars of my money.. This is the worst company. We have late fees and check fees.

Got a payment for almost 12000 and then they said they were going to put my account in review and hold the deposits to it, they sent me a questionnaire I did responded and sent all the documents they asked. Also linked my account to them so they can look at it and as an extra sent 3 months of bank statements, they said 2 days will be ready, it's been week and a half and nothing, they keep asking for the same questionnaire over and over, they said they escalated the problem. 2 times they said they haven't received the documents, I sent them to an email to 2 to the people who call me and they keep saying it'll be ready this afternoon and nothing happens, I don't know what to believe or what to do, meanwhile I need to pay for my customer's materials with my money because they have their money on hold. I never had this problems with Clover.

I did a back to back job for a customer. Everything went smoothly until it was time to use the Square app. Square is holding on to my money and refuse to release it. Me and my son worked hard for it and they are refusing to release funds. I wish I never used them.

I found out my account was deactivated during the busiest day of my business, Friday. No warning, no email, no customer service availability. Sent emails, messages and made phone calls without being able to reach anyone. Customer service is only available Monday through Friday 6am-6pm pacific time so If you are running a business during the weekend and need any support you are on your own. This practice is well known by many affected by it yet they are not held accountable for the loss of business and revenue. Someone has to stop this and protect the customers. There was no illegal activity on my account other than opening a savings with the 2 days before. If their system was not functioning properly deactivating an account without an explanation or warning is a very unconsidered practice affecting thousands of their customers.

I am a salon owner. I was excited to sign up with Square after bad experience with Booker. I read reviews here and can not relate to everyone who said that funds have been withheld. All our funds are transferred daily without delay, no problem. The issue I am having is that the customer service agents are not trained and are useless. I ended up hanging up on my last call because the agent had absolutely no clue what I was talking about… After 35 mins! Square system randomly books appointments which disrupts the business and we miss sales and the register randomly shuts down, the user interface is not intuitive. I am tired and I don’t have any more time to waste. Don’t sign up with them.

I've been a long time user of Square on my business and never call but when I've needed support they make it impossible to reach someone. Don't even bother the chat it's just as poorly set up. There are many alternatives like PayPal so If they don't step up their quality of support I can see why people would leave this poorly run business. Very frustrated, a business is only as good as their support when needed and this one on the few occasions has been very poor. I've waited till now to write this because I feel everyone deserves a chance but at this time I feel that is their regular way to function and in my opinion it's very poor.

Imagine having your business account locked because some random person tries logging into your account. Square doesn't notice or let you know, but you have 2-factor authentication and are secure from these hacking attempts. You call and then they decide to lock your account even though it is secured and remove all access to your invoices, funds, and ability to pay expenses for a week. That's what I'm dealing with.

Square is not good for small business. Or minorities. They took my money and won’t give it to me, after I sent in all the required documents. The smallest transaction gets put on a 90 day review so imagine having 10 transaction all being kept for 90 day review! I’m trying to make a living not be deceived by a company that’s supposed to be simple to use. I do not recommend to no one. They have a bunch of none English speaking people answering the phone that just read rebuttals. I learned that Venmo is safe and you will get your money.

Square has the ability to take the simplest transactions and make them so complicated that it becomes a nightmare. The customer service support team has no cross-functional training - they transfer you 4-5 times every call. I want to pay payroll through my bank account. Well then I have to go to payroll, then speak with business banking, then speak with the verification department, then speak to payroll again, then get transferred to the general queue and then get disconnected and start again. The user interface is average, there are lots of areas where it's not intuitive. They only have 3rd party verification, which means no one knows why verification works or doesn't work. Holds get put on your account randomly, restricting your ability to transfer money in and out. Several times I've had to explain to my employees why they haven't been paid yet. Square's payroll system is pretty bad.

Today, I've had one of my very worst customer service experiences. Square placed a hold on my checking account without warning or communication. All of my money is currently in this account, and I cannot access any of it. I thought the Square checking account would be a secure place to move funds from my direct deposit. Now, I cannot buy gas. If I had a life-threatening emergency, I would not have access to funds. I do not know how or when this will be resolved. I'm disappointed in the thoughtlessness of this company. I've never had a worse banking experience, and cannot recommend Square to anyone.

I have had horrible experience with Square. I need a copy of my sales report for 2021 and 2022. Someone finally emailed me from the Compliance Dept. and next thing I know they have deactivated my account. Why? Because I asked for a sales report. Who can you contact about these people? I contacted the BBB but haven’t heard back from them. Has anyone contacted a government agency or had any luck contacting anyone for help? I can not find anyone to Help….

I started a new company like 2 weeks ago. I purchase the Square to take payments. They said I could just use a Square debit card and that it would be mailed to me. I seriously did my FIRST transaction and then the took the payment and won't release it to me. Said they want 3 months of bank statements and all kinds of other personal information. I told them that's why I just wanted the debit card because I JUST STARTED the business, I don't even have 3 months of records! They stopped my debit card from working, won't let me add my personal bank account to transfer funds!
I called and they said they can literally KEEP MY MONEY! They also email me 2000 times a week minimum AND overcharged me! I was told opening my account would be free and so would my card reader, LIES! They charged me for them and now won't release MY MONEY! Called 2 times now and no resolutions, was told they can keep my mney and to send bank statements for 3 months! Guess I have to wait 3 months to get statements to get my money! Needless to say I am CANCELLING IF I ever get MY money! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Scammers the lot of them. Total criminal to take down all of my personal information including passport, bank account, Medicare card and drivers license and abn and then reject my identity verification. When emailing customer service THERE IS NO SOLUTION FOR THIS. They have all of my information but I can’t use the terminal because the third party verification that they use they DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER L. Which makes my unfortunate one thousand times more likely to be shared in a data leak. I messaged customer service just to receive the same auto reply not only blaming me for typing errors but offering me no solution to my problem and the worst part is I have spent 3 days figuring that out. It’s cheap becuse it is a POS (not point of sale but piece of **)! Do not buy, total scam company.

I do personal training and Square holds your money randomly for no reason. Then out of nowhere they closed my account with 2,000 in it and said they will hold for 120 days to be safe when I never had issues with charge backs or anything. They scam you. Please do not use. They take your money and screw you over.

I want to file a complaint against Square. I have a small travel company located in Los Angeles. We have been using Square for over 6 years. When the pandemic hit, we had lots of consumer refund requests and we didn't have enough staff to process everything on time. There were some clients who decided to file a credit card dispute with their credit card company. I totally understand their decisions. Because the disputes went to Square, they decided to put a reserve on our account, which is 40% of all sales volume. I actually understood their decision as well because of the credit card disputes we had.
However, as of June this year, we issued more than 1.3 million refunds to clients and the credit card disputes have almost disappeared. We hired new staff and tried to take care of every refund request. But Square still keeps the reserve on our account. This is becoming more and more concerning to us. For example, we only receive 60% of the clients' payment when they make a booking with us, and when they come back in 4 month and decide to cancel the trip, we are supposed to refund 100% of the payment minus a little cancellation fee, but Square hasn't even transferred us their payment. We still only have 60% of the total payment but now we need to refund almost 100% of what they paid! These similar transactions are draining our bank account!
I believe our business is just one of hundreds of thousands facing the same problem, I demand Square to take the correct action and refund our reserve right now. I will share my experience with all regulatory bodies until they do. If anyone has a similar experience, please feel free to contact me, and we can together form a stronger force against this unfair treatment.

I would recommend if you're an online retail store do not use Square. They will hold 30% of your money without letting you know. I had this happened to me with my customer's order where they decided to keep 30% of the full order on reserved. I call them to ask them why did they do that and they had no reason why. They have poor customer service and I would not recommend them to any online store. I ask them to for my money back and I wanted to cancel my account with them and they refuse to give my money. They said to wait 120 days. So here we are, their only resolution is to refund my custom and charge him with another merchant. You know how ridiculous that sounds. Stay Away.

I have signed up for Square business banking everything is great as always when you start doing business, fast forward to 05/28 my family and I heading out of town stopped by to get cash out available balance is 5k a poor guy with a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old, I promised to take them out of town and buy my daughter a bicycle, the funds is available but I can't transfer the money, withdraw the money, first reason it's a server error, second reason they are looking into it, third it might take a day it's Saturday and it's a Holliday for the only obviously with our money, taking to someone forget about it, all you get is a robot, logged in again the funds are available and ready for use, try to use the card, the same cycle starts over and have been for 5 hours and my kids looking so much forward to it looking at their Dad and he is literally sitting duck helpless in a car 91 degree heat and I can't turn it off because of the kids,
Finally Mr Robot came with a genius idea, why can't I use another card?? All I can tell you is that it's my turn today and maybe yours GOD'S FORBID tomorrow it could be 5k, 50k or more or less, find yourself a decent bank actually cares or park right next to me waiting for another genius idea, or just use another card. I was locked out of my account on Friday. I went to my online portal to resolve the matter. It gave me an error message through the entire portal reset. I chatted online with support. They keep giving me the run-a-round, giving me misleading information. I finally spoke with someone today on Monday. We went through the entire verification process all over again. Then I was told that I would be back in good standing within two hours. It has been nine hours now and they are giving me the same sob story all over again. Horrible Support, Horrible Customer Service.

I have small business and I’ve been using Square for a while now. I started doing small loans through Square but the loan amounts and the amount deposited never add up… I’ve always been finding that small amounts are missing sometimes $.14-$2 dollars but there’s always money that doesn’t add up. I called for an amount that was deposited and they transferred me to the loans department. The woman I spoke with was rude and still couldn’t explain why there’s micro amounts missing from every deposit. Stay away. I’m done using this scam of a company.

Square processed my small business transactions as it does so for so many of us. Multiple accounts were found "associated" to my business, with incorrect spellings and obviously scamworthy info included. Square lets them charge their own cards and then I get left with the bill. They won't give you ANY information about the associated accounts except the name and email address used. It is open to fraudulent activity and then honest businesses suffer. I've filed internet complaints, FTC complaint and more. They still refuse to give me my money.

Square, Stripe, Paypal and WePay are not real credit card processors. These are money transfer companies claiming to be credit companies. Please, please do business with a real credit company. These companies actually steal your money and with no oversight agency they will continue to do so. You need to go with companies like Englobe WorldPay, (**) Capital Bankcard, Elite Bankcard Solution (**) etc. These are real credit card companies and have to abide by the credit card association rules. Square is own by Jack Dorsey, the owner of Twitter. These guys don’t care about Square’s customers.
When you file a suit against Square, it never makes it to the top unless you are asking for five million or more. They treat customers like animals and just continue to take their money. The percentage rate will tell you these companies steal from honest hard working people. 30 cents plus 2.70% this is actually 3.00 per hundred dollars they take. A regular credit card company charges about 15 cents plus 1.30% normally that is about $ 1.45 cent per every hundred dollars you make. Please, please these companies are only robbing merchants every day. They come with slick equipment and flashy websites to lower merchants in. Do not fall for the **, regular credit card companies offer the same or much better.

I think this company should only be entertained as a last resort. We signed up for Square for our website, we filled out the application and questionnaire and were accepted. We sell CBD products and apparently Square said they allowed it. After passing the review they allowed us to receive payments. Then once money came in, they never let us withdraw a single dollar. It felt like some strange trap. We were perfectly fine with being denied by them, but to accept us and then lock the money up once it came in was just absurd and infuriating.
Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with especially considering the size and visibility of this company. You can not actually talk to the compliance people. They apparently "do not have phones". Therefore they train the customer service people to get you off the phone and "wait for an email." Often these emails never come, and you need to call again and again. One time one of the customer service reps actually hang up on me. When you ask to speak to a manager, they lie and tell you they do not have any managers. When the emails do come, you can not reply to the emails because they send it from an account that either doesn't receive emails or that no one checks.
So they take your money, then tell you "oops we shouldn't have taken your money, but you can't have it either." Then you can't actually talk to anyone who you can work with or who can actually make a decision or give you any relevant advice. You just get stuck along with your cash. Best choice we made with Square was stopping after just over $200 in payments when we realized we were never going to be able to withdraw. If we hadn't have been vigilant and disconnected Square from our website promptly, they would've damaged our business terribly.

This company has the most unprofessional support you can ever find. Their team does not know how to use their own platform. They removed a whole section from the interface of the Square admin along with the custom code. Now no one, including their own engineers, is able to access this code and as a result, our analytics data is broken and we are unable to run any campaigns in our store. The issue is going on for 8 months now and I get Zero support on this. Their advertising is false! Square does not support many of the futures they advertise. They claim integration with Pinterest, but Pinterest integration just does not work and they do nothing about it. I'm extremely frustrated with this company.

I have been messed around by this company for days. They won't verify my account because I don't have a previous credit history. They failed to advise me of this at the beginning and continued to take me on a wild goose chase making me go through Equifax (the third party they use to check credit history). I shouldn't have to have a credit history to use their product. I'm upset at their poor customer service, their lack of clear information and their poor system. I had no trouble with Paypal or Stripe. This is ridiculous. From other reviews and from what the poor customer service lady told me this is a really frequent issue. Do better Square - your system is broken.

This company believes it can withhold funds from my business that were paid by legitimate credit/debit cards without explanation. The employees are located in various parts of the world, but not in the USA. They seem to know absolutely nothing about what is happening with the funds from my transactions, and waste unconscionable amounts of time asking, then re-asking, unnecessary questions about me. I had a client pay $5700 on a credit card run through Square. Weeks later when the funds never showed up in my bank account, I called square to inquire I got nothing but runarounds from the poorly trained employees I could speak to.
They have now held my funds for almost 3 weeks--they acknowledge that they have them but simply pass me around to different employees, all of whom ask me the same questions, but none of whom answer my questions or do anything to help. It would be comical if they did not continue to hold my funds with no explanation yet to be heard. This is the worst company I have dealt with in 47 years of running a business.

I called Square to possibly join and was welcomed to a sales agent that set me up with an account. I told him where I was at with starting a new company and this given everything I was told set it up accordingly for me. As I begin to invoice my clients billing gets flagged and square can’t help and after speaking with their customer service they don’t know how to view what gets sent and ask me to cancel my invoice and send again making my client repay a new invoice. I then lost that client. I then invoice another client twice in a week and my account gets flagged. I provide all documentation and am told if I don’t have enough info or if something is wrong they will reach out with reason to support it. A day later I receive an email stating my entire account and service has been forcefully deactivated. No reason to a termination was provided in any way shape or form.
I call customer service to speak to a supervisor and they then say, "You can’t speak to anyone as your account has been deactivated." Given I have invoiced clients there are funds being withheld from me without the ability to pull hard earned money nor ask my client to decline and pay with another service. To do anything I will now have to wait 3 months if not more to even begin the decline and refund process from which I have to tell my client to decline a charge made months ago. I will most likely lose this client.
So I signup with this company. Tell them exactly where I am at with my startup, they say it’s perfect. No problem, and a few weeks later I have had funds withheld from which I can’t get back, provided all documentation when flagged, they deactivated my account effective immediately (without the capabilities to speak to anyone to do anything, wasn’t given a reason, and now lost clients because of it. They will take my withheld invoices funds to use throughout their company. This is the scam of all scams and completely unjust. They have breached their own contract with customers and pushed them out and stolen from them with no reason whatsoever. If you want your startup to be robbed, ridiculed and to lose anything you have going for you, this is the company for you.

Square allowed us to re-open our school cafeteria for cashless payments quickly and easily! We had been looking for an affordable system and had no luck until Square. The backroom reporting is clear and easy to understand. The POS system in the cafeteria is quick and user friendly. Reloadable gift cards have been a big seller for us here at the school. The cards are easy to track and clear balances if cards are lost or stolen. Ordering customized cards is quick and easy. Love the flexibility of the system and the online Dashboard for the back end reports, etc. Is easy to navigate and print all the required information for our auditors! Keep up the great work. :)

If you are small business I suggest you stay away from Square! any chargeback they will favor the customer even the customer is wrong. I've had many issues with them!! Even as a business owner I want to give money back and get my product back it is not possible with square! They will have the client hold the merchandise and refund the money.. They work for the crook buyers!! I've had a buyer who was not happy with their purchase. My return policy is clear. We offer exchange only and they get that policy notice verbally and on their receipt. Square had the customer hold on to the jewelry and gave their money back and withdrew the funds from our account! They want us to hire a lawyer. For the small business this is not possible as some purchases are small and lawyers charge a lot of money.

Square comes in handy for each of my unique customer transactions. Whether it be setting up an order or charging a customer it's a great way to constantly stay engaged with each of my current or potential new clients. Customers can pay online through my connected website or text me by phone. It's simple to use and I highly recommend it for its ease of use for not only myself but clients as well.

So bought terminal from Best Buy, then signed up with a account, jumped through hoops, then started using the service as I sell laptops. Well first payment was $2900.00. Check the account your fund on hold till you provided every detail of you life including kitchen sink! So I do give them photos of id, customer address phone contact number, 3 months of bank statements, even copy of my car business account and info. copy of the invoice as well!! Everything they asked. I open chat reply, "Oh you will be notified if we need anything more!!" I was like **. Found their support number, called, told them get this resolved! By 6 pm to the fund now say available. All good it a weekend 2 biz days to withdrawal plus Sat and Sunday. Or click here to instant withdrawal for a extra 1.5%. What a scam. Second the money clears into my bank I'm closing my account and return terminal to Best Buy and going back to PayPal ugh!

We recently lost money because we charged on the magnetic strip of a card and that card had a chip. I inquired to Square and said that the consumer took our product, but was informed that any time that you use the magnetic strip when the card has a chip, the retailer is at risk. The consumer can take your product and deny payment to the card company because you did not use the chip. As a retailer, there is nothing you can do. I thought Square should have informed their customers. We have now switched to SumUp; they charge less per transaction and offer a chip reader for $20.

"Thousands of payments processed by home and repair service businesses using Square." As a home repair business owner I can confirm Square's statement above is the biggest lie I've ever read, after my first transaction I waited a week for the ACH transfer to post. When it finally went through the money never showed up. I contacted support to be told it should be available in 24hours and this is a normal process, less than a hour passes and now my account is deactivated and the $3500 payment is now being held for 90 days so now I'm sitting on $1200 in materials I have to float as well as the pay for my apprentice!
When I tried to reach out I was told they have nothing to say to me as I'm a deactivated account even refused to let me speak to a manager but don't worry the account team will email me in 24-48 hours which they did, to repeat the same no reason deactivation email I had already been given and no aren't replying to my emails. DO NOT USE SQUARE.

Please do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from this company. Being a merchant for over 35 years, I have never seen a dispute process like this. American Express clearly and wrongfully ruled in the customer's favor. Square admits that the decision was wrong, yet they REFUSE to challenge American Express's wrong decision. I have called dozens of times and spoken to many representatives who you can barely understand what they are saying with their accents.
Representatives, do not give their ID number or last name for the record. The last representative had to give me his ID because he was a manager. Adam (ID:**) basically said, "You are on your own and you need to get an attorney." I had no choice but to call American Express directly and do THEIR job to straighten things out. American Express told me I have 30 days to challenge their decision, however Square lied stating that American Express's decision is final, when it is NOT! SHAME ON YOU SQUARE on you treat your clients and merchants.

On Jan 13th I processed a payment with no apparent issue. After a long period the funds were not in account. Contacted Square, no easy thing as they prefer robots. I asked why funds not deposited. Advised the card was from out of state?. I travel the globe and use cards everywhere. So what is their point? It is now almost end of Feb and they still procrastinate. There is no fraud. I know the client and still they hold my money. This is completely unacceptable.

They froze my funds for no reason and wouldn’t give them back. But gave me the green light to continue accepting payments from customers. After multiple attempts of trying to get my money back with no success I filed a complaint with the BBB Better Business Bureau. The very next day my account was unfroze and my money returned. I should of started at the BBB from the beginning of all this mess. I’d stay away from stripe too if you can. We just started using Costco 3rd party payment processing. Customer service has been 5 star and processing rates are 1% cheaper. Thank god for the BBB Better Business Bureau. Without them our money would of been gone forever.

Please stay away from this company. They play with money that is rightfully yours. I am a small business and they held $2000 claiming for review. They blocked me and could not reach customer service. My customer with a different phone were able to reach them and they were very rude. I ended up having to issue refund to customer. If you are small business please do not use this company. I rarely had that bad of an experience with a company. There is zero support and if something goes wrong, expect that you loose your money. You won't be able to reach anyone, escalate your case or get anything else than canned answers. Your only way to deal with this shady company is legal action. Here is what happened: I paid for lunch in a larger group where I didn't know everyone but I got paid via Square Cash and received the email with the right amount, as expected.
However, the mail contained the message: "Further action is required to deposit this amount to your account [LINK]. This link expires in 2 weeks". But nothing ever happened when I clicked on the link. In other words, it was broken. Without an option to reach out to the person who paid me, I contacted Square. After many unsuccessful and painful attempts of receiving canned answers, unhelpful default lines the message was clear: "We cannot help you". Even though I could provide every single detail (including the email source, screenshot, transaction ID). Companies like this should be held accountable and shut down.

First off, to get any support they are TERRIBLE. With most payment processors when things are working it is seamless however. Then, Square terminated our medical office for no real reason. Later found out they decided we broke their terms (which we surely did not) with zero ability to make a case. No recourse for their overpriced useless equipment, nothing at all. No ability to even contact higher support once their misguided incorrect decision was made. The good news is, we found a new processor that is much cheaper and phenomenally better customer service. Square is in the top 5 worse companies I ever dealt with over 23 years in business.

This company is the WORST. I signed up with them and had nothing but problems. I processed my first credit card with no issues. I set up a check account so my balance was supposed to be available and I could access my money using their debit card. Then I proceeded my second payment and they put a hold on my account so even though they took my customer's money, they wouldn't let me have it. I called and was told if I issued my customer a refund they would get their money back immediately. That's a lie. They don't even refund the money because they actually just put a hold on it but they won't remove the hold instead they just wait for it to fall off.
Once my customer got their money back and after I jumped through hoops providing documents, copies of invoices, etc. I got an email telling me my account was all good to go. So, I processed another payment and of course, my money wasn't available and they put a hold on my account again. Then I get an email saying that they are closing my account but they still have my customer's money. This was all the first week I began to use them. I'm better off sticking with my bank's merchant services. In addition, their customer service hours are limited which is frustrating.

Our small live entertainment business relied on Square for over four years, processing tens of thousands in sales. Then, one day, they decided to hold over $4,000 in payments being processed. They then proceeded to deactivate our account for absolutely no reason, citing that, per their General Terms of Service, they can drop us at any time for any or no reason. I called several times, had a couple of ongoing email threads... NOTHING. No real reason given, zero support provided. This company does NOT have their customer's best interests at heart and openly preys on small businesses who can't fight back. Save yourself the pain and frustration. Go with a better company. This one is a scam and a sham, with absolutely zero care for you as a small business.

We are a small, startup business which provide extraction services for botanicals - including hemp/CBD. My business also sells several CBD products. As the General Counsel for the company, I work to ensure that our products are compliant with FDA requirements - as well as standard regulatory requirements. Square is - soon was - our company for credit card processing.
After working with them for several months, Square began withholding money from our transactions and claimed that we were non-compliant with regulatory requirements in statements made on our product website; I responded to their assertions and requests for information - but with every response, I received a proforma response asserting the same information. I was promised specific examples of the noncompliant parts of the website, along with screenshots, and a response within 24 hours - none of which I received. This has been repeating form now for over a week without any advancement, any accountability, and any evidence is support.
If Square is going to have antipathy to CBD products, which are fully legal under Federal and State laws, it should advertise that it is not a Hemp/CBD-friendly business; instead it has caused our business to rely upon its assertions of speedy and responsive service while it has not provided the same. In doing so, it creates a risk to our business and to our employees who rely on our business. This is absolutely wrong.

I purchased a retail store, and, foolishly, thought Square was the way to go. "It's so easy". "So Simple". "Cost Effective". "Easily add and edit inventory". Nope. Nope. Real nope. Major nope. I changed my mind within the 30 day guarantee returns window...it's now been 45 days..and I'm still waiting to get my money back! They're real quick to take it! And slower than a dead sloth to give it back. I'm a small business. $1,763 is a LOT of money to me. Then to call their help desk.... I have yet to speak to someone I can clearly understand or can understand me, "Bob from Kansas", or "Marie from Ohio"....which sounds not so much like Midwest as it does Mideast. Don't do it. Talk to fellow retailers...Go with a TYSY system....Fraction of the cost, fraction of the stress to get it up and running. Save yourself! It's too late for me! But save yourself!

USE A DIFFERENT SERVICE. Chat support is absolutely useless. Phone support regularly hangs up on you.. Managers do nothing but take notes... Features are lack luster even if you are paying for all their extras. Even when there are clear issues caused by their software, they refuse to adequately look into the issues that are clear to find..

This organization allowed over $5000.00 dollars from my small clinic to be taken through verified fraud out of Italy. I am in Nevada. They allowed this to happen and effectively closed my clinic from taking any credit cards until I find a new POS system. Also they refused to do anything to help "for 90 days". There is nobody in the agency that can help you, their "customer service agents". They also froze me out of my account and I have no access to any client record or accounts paid for my business or accountant. The lady says "don't worry we will send the forms to the IRS". I said that I needed that information for my own accountant and books, and she acted like that didn't make sense. The cherry on all of this is that I caught the fraudulent charges as they were happening and in a "pending" state, and they still allowed the charges to go through, even after the lady at customer service said that would not. OUTRAGEOUS! Small businesses beware...

In October of 2021, Square notified me, but they were discontinuing transfers to my bank account due to suspicious activity on my square account. I have never had a dispute or a chargeback, ever, and my activity levels were unchanged. I am a primary care physician. When I attempted to call them, they had suspended phone service along with the suspension of transfers to my bank account. In the notification, they claimed that I was a hemp/marijuana seller. I emailed them and informed them that they were in error and provided them with the information they requested via a form they provided with the notification of suspension of transfers.
It has now been close to two months, and I have NEVER had a single response to a single email I have sent, and they are still holding over $7000.00 of my money. My attorney sent a demand letter to which they have not responded. This company steals from small businesses, so beware. They are a criminal entity. My next step is to find an attorney and proceed with a court case. This is a sad state of affairs when a company is so large that they cease to take care of their customer base.

We used Square POS in our business and lost countless hours due to the dashboard portal timeout that would kick users off the system with no warning. If in the middle of large product update processes, inventory activities, or other things that take time you'd lose all your work. If you stepped away to help a customer and came back it would all be gone. They have ignored pleas from users for years and many have left as we did to find a better solution.
