Sherpa is an auto transporter broker with a focus on transparent pricing and helpful, friendly customer service. It carefully investigates carriers to ensure maximum safety for your vehicle while providing more reliable transportation times. Sherpa specializes in late-model vehicles, relocations, snowbird routes and multi-car shipments. It also ships cars, SUVs, vans, trucks, classic automobiles and even inoperable vehicles within the contiguous 48 U.S. states. As an added bonus, Sherpa’s Price Lock Promise means you won’t pay more than the initial quote.
Sherpa Auto Transport cost
The pricing Sherpa offers is based on real-time market data that provides accurate quotes. Pricing is a function of trailer type, capacity, distance, time frame, and vehicle size, weight and operability. When you place an order, the company will charge $1 to validate your card, and the initial payment will be due when Sherpa secures a carrier for your vehicle. If you decide to cancel before a carrier is assigned to you, you will only have to pay a $50 dispatch fee; however, if you cancel after a carrier is assigned to you, Sherpa will keep your initial payment.
One of Sherpa’s best features is the Price Lock Promise, where Sherpa contributes up to $300 in order to stick to the price it originally quotes. The promise is a response to consumer desire in the auto transport industry for a more straightforward, clear and honest quote process. Some reviews mention that Sherpa doesn’t necessarily offer the lowest quotes. However, there are several things you can do to keep costs down, such as planning your auto transport well in advance.
Sherpa offers discounts for multi-vehicle shipments, active-duty military, first responders, students, snowbirds, and repeat customers.
Sherpa Auto Transport shipping options
Sherpa offers both local and long-distance transport and is able to ship a wide array of vehicles, including sedans, vans, SUVs and classic cars. Inoperable cars are also accepted. Discounts are available for snowbird routes, seniors, multi-car transports, repeat customers, students and members of the military. Open and enclosed transport are both options.
Door-to-door shipping is the most commonly offered type of transport with Sherpa, as it tends to be the most convenient option for consumers. Sherpa’s Clean Car Guarantee reimburses customers up to $20 for a car wash after vehicle drop-off. Sherpa features include:
- Local and long-distance transport
- Ships more than just cars
- Inoperable and operable cars shipped
- Discounts available
- Open and enclosed transport
- Clean Car Guarantee
Sherpa Auto Transport shipping process
Call Sherpa customer service or fill out an online form to receive a free quote backed by Sherpa’s Price Lock Promise. After your shipment is locked in, Sherpa's experts go to work thoroughly vetting potential carriers for transport. Once a carrier is secured, Sherpa provides estimates for both pickup and delivery, and the carrier will call to confirm 24 hours before pickup and delivery.
Once the vehicle has been picked up, you can call customer service at any time to see the vehicle’s location and estimated time of arrival. Depending on the length of the route and the centrality or remoteness of the pickup and drop-off locations, it can take a day or two all the way up to a few weeks for the vehicle to be delivered. Once the car has been dropped off and checked for damages, make sure to take advantage of the Clean Car Guarantee to make sure your car looks like new.
Do we recommend Sherpa Auto Transport?
We recommend Sherpa for its transparent pricing, highly reviewed customer service and other benefits, like the Clean Car Guarantee and variety of discounts. Sherpa’s commitment to clear communication and straightforward pricing are notable features. We think it is a good choice for auto transport.

I bought a car out on the East Coast and I needed to get back here to Kansas. I read a review on Sherpa and that convinced me to go with them over everybody else. Customer service did good. They answered all my questions and were super concerned about getting it right and getting somebody. Sherpa is nothing more than a load broker. I'm a little bit on the inside of it. My business is not that much different than what they do. I understand most of these load brokers. I really have a high degree of skepticism against these load brokers because I deal with them in my own business and they're just a bunch of snakes. Once they have your freight, you're a hostage and you can't do anything about it.
I was trying to really do my due diligence. Sherpa's representative really gave me a good hype and comfort level that they were gonna do their part. But they have no control over who they line up to pick up my load. All they're doing is brokering it and they make 300 bucks in the middle, which is fine. I'm sure they have some sort of a vetting process that they try and do when they're dealing with their carriers. But as far as Sherpa's end of the deal, they went above and beyond.
The transport company's communication was good. But there were some issues. When the car showed up, there was some damage on it that wasn't noted on the bill of lading. Sherpa was super thorough about making sure pictures were taken. The bill of lading is extraordinarily detailed. They noted things that I couldn't even see. Some of the damagers, however, that I could see were not noted. I pointed that out to the driver and he wanted to fight me over the whole thing. He was not even open to a conversation that perhaps that damage could have occurred in transit. He wouldn't listen and accused me of not wanting to pay him. I ended up paying him. I was like, "Well, what are we gonna do, a fistfight in the parking lot?" I was trying to take the high road.
One other thing that I discovered was the seller of the car put the license plate, the registration, and the proof of insurance inside the car when he sent it. He laid it inside the cabin of the car. When I got the car, none of that stuff was present. The seller could have somehow overlooked, But I 100% trust this guy as I know him and we've done business for 30 years. They have no motivation to do anything other than what he said. But it was there and then it wasn't. In order to get a new license plate it, I had to go to my police station. My guess is somebody between here and New Hampshire is driving around with my license plate on a different car. I can't prove that though.
Given this and the issue with the damage, these kind of things add up to maybe this driver needs a little more scrutiny. I made Sherpa aware of the driver issue and I followed up and told them about the missing license plate, a registration, and a proof of insurance that was in the car. They never responded to that one. Other than that, Sherpa did everything they were supposed to.

My youngest was in college in Michigan and a family that had befriended him had fallen on hard times. Their daughter was his roommate and she needed a car for her summer work program because she had to drive to get this internship. I just bought a new car and I had my old one that was still in very good shape. I didn't need it and I don't really need the money for it. I said that I'd give it to her but I couldn't drive it up there. I was already going to fly it there to help him move.
I found Sherpa and they had a really nice arrangement where we paid an upfront cost for them to find a driver and she just had to pay the driver. It was a really good thing for me because I wanted her commitment to pay something for the vehicle. It was a reasonable amount. That worked out really well for me. Sherpa was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The driver was very polite, courteous, and prompt. He got here on time and called me. He dropped off the vehicle and it was fine. I was very happy with the service.
It was my first-time experience transporting a vehicle. I did it online and Sherpa came back promptly with a good price. I had contacted four other companies and some of them didn't even respond. The ones that did were very, "Well, we'll let you know," that kind of thing. Sherpa was very good at getting me a price, "This is what it's gonna cost." It was getting closer to the deadline and they'd given me a window and they were still within the window. It was just so much was going on so I was a little nervous.
I called Sherpa and at the time, you get an answering service thing because they get a lot of calls. I didn't have time to wait. They called me right back and said, "We still haven't found a driver for you, but we'll get you something right now." They didn't realize I was anxious. They had a lot of information on their website. They were very prompt and they allayed my fears and said, "We haven't found anyone yet, but if you need a name right now, we'll get you one." It worked out really well. In the payment way, the driver that they got wanted a little more cash so they reduced their fee that they would take from my card. But the problem was the young lady that was receiving the car only had so much cash and she's a student.
I said, "Well, look, can I just pay that difference to the driver upfront?" They said that was fine. When the driver came, I said, "I'll give you the cash and then you can just email that you got the money." He sent me a text that this was received so I had a record. That made me feel comfortable that he received that cash. When he arrived, he just took the additional cash from the young lady I was sending the car to. They were flexible and honest about the transaction.
I would encourage people to use Sherpa. To drive the car would have cost me just as much money with hotel stays and gas. The stress would have been so much more too. You have to drive it 1,800 miles for three days and it would have been terrible. Sherpa delivered the car right when they said they were going to deliver it.

We were moving from Chicago land area to LA so I needed to ship my car. I reached out to an open site, which gave me a million people. I started reading and they were just relentless. I was not moving for a while. I had no idea if it was gonna cost $1,000 to ship my car or $5,000. I was just trying to get estimates. My move was never an exact date to pick up the car. I was waiting on selling our house and a bunch of other things. I started to find someone again and Sherpa came up highly recommended. It had great reviews and a very competitive price. They didn't inundate me. It was like, "When I figure it out, I'll let you know."
Another issue was when we were moving and getting ourselves out here, we didn't have an address because we didn't find a house yet. Sherpa picked up the car and we didn't even 100% know where we were looking to move to yet. That was pretty interesting. I had to update them. We were dealing with two people and they were fine. They understood and were very easy to talk to.
Someone then called and said they were with Sherpa and were picking up the car. They were great. It took four days from start to finish. They even came in a day early than they said. The driver would text me every time like where he was gonna be, where he's at now, and when he was gonna get there. He texted me the day before saying he was going to be in the vicinity at around X amount of time. It was perfect.
The driver knew where we are going and dropping off my car was super easy. He was at the mall and it was great because he said he might be running late. I was having dinner with friends. I told the driver to let me know when he got there and I would run out and give him my keys. He kept me in the loop the entire time. We had snow so that was an issue. It was the same thing going in. We had to go a little further but it was not a big deal. He was right on like what time to pick up so that was fine.
My husband said the car was gonna come washed but it didn't. The car arrived really dirty but that didn't bother me. I just did that drive so I understood. I was driving from Chicago to here. I went through a windstorm or tornadoes through Oklahoma, snow and fall staff, and a sandstorm somewhere in Texas. It definitely was a lot of debris. On the whole, call direct and book Sherpa. It was a no-brainer. You put your stuff in and they come.

Everybody was kind and courteous. They listened. So I had no issue whatsoever. Sherpa was perfect. The company that got the run was picking up the vehicle on a Monday. On Tuesday, I received an email from the dealership stating that my LoJack was now up and running and to sign on and get my password and how to download the app. After I had done all of this, I thought of checking to see where my Cadillac Escalade was but it hadn't moved. It was over 24 hours since they picked it up, and it will be delivered to me by Wednesday as told by the carrier that picked up the run.
I called the number of the company that has it and the gentleman said it was in transit. I asked him, "Are you sure about that?" He said, "Yeah, yeah. It's in transit." I said, "Okay. Well, I know that's not true." Then he said, "Oh, no, no, no, we've got it on the truck. It's already in transit." So I said, "Okay, I'm going to come clean, so I'm going to tell you to stop lying right now because I gave you the opportunity to tell me the truth. You didn't. My vehicle has LoJack and I know exactly where it is, what street it's on. And I can tell you because I can see it on my app."
Then he told me that they had an issue with another vehicle. I said, "Let me stop you there. First of all, I don't give a flying rat's ass about another vehicle. What I cared about was the communication you should have given to me and said, 'Hey, we ran into a problem. We're not going to deliver on Wednesday. Is it okay to deliver on Thursday?' and then proceed to tell me the issue you ran into."
I came to find out that a vehicle on the transport had a dead battery and mine was in front of it. So they had to take it back two and a half hours to where it belonged, tow it off the carrier, and then proceed to bring mine. I told the rep, "The least you could have done was been honest with me. Listen, I get it. This is your driving from Illinois all the way to Connecticut. And I see you have a 203 number, so, obviously, you're from Connecticut or have been from Connecticut at some point 'cause that's our area code." He said, "Yes, ma'am. I'm from Bridgeport." I said, "Well, great. Then expect my ** vehicle soon." The next day, it wasn't the actual driver that brought the vehicle. But it wasn't his fault. He's just a carrier. It didn't arrive until 8:00 Thursday night.
When the driver came, it was dark and raining. I couldn't inspect my vehicle. I was a little disappointed. But nobody has any control over the weather. The driver asked me, "Is everything okay?" He stood there in the rain with me and as I was taking pictures, he was taking photos too. He was doing his diligence as well as I did. But all I asked was that the company that picked the run communicate better. I poked and prodded and caught the rep in a big bold-faced lie. The least he could have done was been honest and just communicated. But overall, Sherpa did exactly what they said they were going to do. They got the vehicle here in one piece. Sherpa did everything, including email, communication, and the price lock.

I called Sherpa Auto Transport and I got somebody. It was a person who spoke English. That made me happy because I felt we were communicating. And we had a discussion. He told me how it all worked and how much it would cost. We talked about dates. And somehow they got back to me. They set it up. It was very smooth. They told me there would be a driver. Somebody said he would call. I got anxious about the whole thing. Because I'm in the middle of Manhattan. My car is in a garage. I can drive it where they need to. But how would I do it in the middle of Manhattan? The driver called me up and said, "I'll be there in the blah, blah, minutes". And I went over to the garage and got the car. And I thought, "What am I going to do? I'm going to have to park it somewhere. And then I'm gonna find a parking space.”
It ended up being nothing at all. So, I waited on 55th Street. Second Avenue goes from one end of Manhattan all the way down to the other end. It goes from north to south. And he said, "I'll meet you at 54th in a second. I'll have my transport there." I drove over there. And there he was with the transport. He got out. And we looked at the car. We had a chit-chat about it. And he said, "All right. See you later." He got in the car. Drove it on the transport. I turned around, took a picture of it and left. The driver was a sweetheart. He picked the car up on a Friday. And it was delivered on a Tuesday.
Whoever did it in Texas was a different person than I talked to, who was the ultimate driver. He called her a half an hour. He said he was 10 miles out. But she didn't answer the phone. So, the driver called me. And I called her. And he called her. She lives in Austin, Texas. She lives more out in the suburbs. And she said, he didn't want to bring it on her street because there were too many trees. She said, "I just jogged over to the, you know. It wasn't very far." She sent me a thing and said, "There's this little ding here." I said, "Oh, that's an old one." There was nothing. And he gave her the keys. She signed it, she gave him the check, and that was that. It was very smooth. They had their stuff together. The car got there in no time. Sherpa was great. Everybody was professional. I would recommend them.

Unlike our previous experience with Sherpa Auto Transport, this time, we blew through the pickup window without an assigned driver. Sherpa staff was very kind and worked hard trying to get me a driver. Eventually, we got a driver after we added in more money for the driver. Throughout this setback, Sherpa staff was patient and professional.

I lived in a rural area and it wasn't easy for Sherpa to find a carrier for me, but they did! PIck up was easy and went as planned and car was delivered in good condition. I forgot to ask for the bill of lading upon pick up. When I called the driver he said he could email a copy to me but it really wasn't necessary. Everything turned out fine but I would have felt a little more comfortable with a piece of paper in my hands. We did get the bill of lading upon delivery.

They have the cheapest option and they're best reviewed. There were no issues in my experience with them. The only minor issue was the timing of the delivery was a little inaccurate. The driver was three hours late.
