Does Sherpa Auto Transport offer insurance for transported vehicles?

Still have questions?

Is Sherpa Auto Transport legit?

Yes, Sherpa Auto Transport is a legitimate auto transport broker. It’s registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT #4085166) and has Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) authority (MC #1555035). The company works with a network of vetted carriers across all 50 states.

Sherpa requires its carriers to have at least $1 million in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance, and it verifies coverage before transport. The company also offers a Price Lock Promise to help protect you from unexpected price increases after booking.

Customers frequently highlight Sherpa’s clear communication, fair pricing and reliable delivery, with many noting their vehicles arrived on time and in good condition. There are a handful of complaints about delays and communication issues, but the majority of customers praise the company’s professionalism and overall service quality.

I would recommend Sherpa Auto Transport. I set up the transport online. It was easy and on point. Also, they're very professional. Before they picked up, I wanted to make sure that it was still on for that day. They got back to me quickly via email and they gave me other information and confirmed it would be picked up, and if for some reason they could not, to give them a call or to call the carrier's number, which was good. Everything worked out well.

The driver picked up the car and dropped it off at another location where they would be transport it on a bigger truck for that other guy to take it cross-country. The car left a week before I did. I traveled for a week and the car got to the destination before I did. It came on time. My sister picked it up. They had to meet them on a turnpike, a thruway, which I understand. It came in after 11:00 at night which I understand as well. When I came back, I looked at the car and it was fine.

It was a flat fee. I scheduled it in late December and they picked the car up in April. I did research on that. If I did it earlier, I would get more of a discount. It wasn't as in peak season as May would be. So, it was a good price. When I went did some other research a month or two after this, to see how much others have been charging, they have been charging a lot more. I got a good deal. I paid it all at once.

I had a good experience with Sherpa. I had looked up reviews of different auto companies and spoken to a few and they weren't always honest about what the process was, especially knowing that the price could change once the car was actually shipped, knowing that there was differences between carriers and brokers. Some of the other ones I spoke to were implying everyone was a broker. When I spoke to someone at Sherpa, she was very honest that they were carriers. I know that there's a good guarantee that they will reimburse a certain amount if it ends up being more expensive. Sherpa just seemed to be transparent and informative compared to some of the other competitors.

The driver was fine. I had to go to a different location, which I didn't expect. I thought they would come much closer, but that wasn't too bad and he was very nice. I liked that he took a lot of photos of the car before and after. I did the same. That eased some concerns about anything that might happen to the car in transport. I also had to change my day. Originally, it was supposed to come on Sunday as the earliest day and I said that I wouldn't be in Colorado then. So, the point of contact I spoke to coordinated with the driver that I'd come on Monday. I was really happy overall. I didn't have any negative surprises. My car was in good condition. I had good communication with everyone I spoke with. I'd recommend Sherpa.

I would highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport. They did a great job and I intend to use them again. They were my second pick. The first pick people did not do what they promised they would do. They kept stalling. I called Sherpa and they had me a driver the next day. The move was super easy, very smooth and fast. Sherpa had a tracking type thing where I could see at all times where the car was. Also, once the car left my possession and went into the hands of the person that would receive it, they kept in contact as well. The carrier that they chose did a great job. They were on top of things. English wasn't the first language. But we were fine with it. It's a possibility that somebody might be apprehensive about that. But we communicated great and there was no language barrier between us.

This is the first time I've done it. I understand the process now. Sherpa is the intermediary between an actual company that does the transportation and they have a national board. They list the job on there. Somebody with a higher price is going to get a faster bite on it. Sherpa was more expensive than the first place I went with, but the first place was on day six with no bites. I was more than happy to pay a bit more because I needed to get it done as soon as possible. The woman that set up the transport saved the day.

I was in Boston, and I was going to ship my car back to Los Angeles. I had driven my car out, and it was going to be the middle of winter, in January, when I wanted to ship my car back. I looked into several different options online, and Sherpa got very good ratings. The main thing that attracted me was the fact that they have this price guarantee and no hidden costs. The reviews confirmed that that was the case. I decided to go with Sherpa. Then, just a few days before the pick-up date for my car, our house in Los Angeles was involved in the fires that we had here in Los Angeles a year ago, in January. The house didn't burn down. We didn't even know, at the time, if the house was still there, but I immediately got in touch with Sherpa because I knew that we had no place to even deliver the car. I knew the whole area was under an evacuation order.

I called Sherpa up. I explained the situation, and they said, "We've already taken that into account. We're aware of it. We have a policy that we've adopted that we will give you a full refund. We won't charge you." Even though they'd already charged my credit card, as they were supposed to. I just said, "This is amazing. Thank you."

This year, when we were going back, I didn't even bother to look at anybody else. I just went straight to Sherpa. It was, again, a great arrangement. They were on time, even faster than we had originally talked about. We got the car on the day after we arrived back, which was the first day we were able to get to the drop-off site. It was perfect.

Their service was amazing. And the price was great. It was competitive. It wasn't the cheapest, but there were no hidden charges. The driver was friendly when I met him. They drove the car right up to our front door 'cause they couldn't get it down our street. They were on time, too. Everything went great. I would use them again without hesitation.

I gave one of my vehicles to my grandson, so I had to ship it to Tennessee and I'm in California. Aside from Sherpa, I looked at two other companies and I had a better feeling with Sherpa. In speaking to the associates, I felt it was a better fit. The other ones were pushy, to say the least, and even though they were cheaper, I wasn't comfortable. On the other hand, the associate at Sherpa was great. He was very informative, professional and kind, and the quote I was provided was very fair. It was a little high, but I didn't mind that because I had a good feeling. Sometimes people get what they pay for, and I got my money's worth with Sherpa. I would definitely recommend Sherpa to anybody who ever asked me. It was a wonderful experience. I can't say enough about it.

The transport was so quick that I couldn't believe it. There was a weekend in there, and they don't work on weekends but the transport took three days. I'm in a rural place in Tennessee, so that was quite impressive. When the driver came to pick up the vehicle, he was very communicative where to meet him. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac, so it would have been difficult for him to turn around. I said I would meet him up at the corner because it would be easy for him to maneuver and get the vehicle on the truck, and he was very informative about that. It worked out really well. The people receiving the car met the driver at a Walmart parking lot and it was a very smooth transition. The vehicle was in great condition too.

I was really nervous about finding the right company to get my truck moved across the country. This was the easiest process ever. The driver was a great guy and I enjoyed getting to talk with him while it was loaded up. I filled out a form online, paid the money that was very reasonable, and it was picked up and moved. End of story. Not a scratch on it despite being super tight in the truck. And, I’m not a bot. I typically don’t over trust 5 star reviews.

I had a very bad experience with Sherpa. I signed up with them on April 1st to transport our two cars from Florida to Ohio. I started enquiring Monday (May 4th) about when would they pick up our cars as we were flying home on in 6 days. They had created a 6 day window to ship. i also enquired two more times this week and was told that they had interest from a carrier, and the last time yesterday was told not to worry they would get a carrier.

Today I talked to the customer service manager and he told me realistically they probably would not be able to find a carrier before tomorrow (May 9th), which is the day before we were to fly home. This required us to completely change our plans and drive one of the cars about 1200 miles home. My wife and I are 77 & 80. I appreciate the fact that it may have been difficult to find a carrier but to keep stringing me along instead of being honest about the chances to find a carrier, we could possibly had made alternate plans with another broker. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND USING THEM!!!

I shipped a vehicle that needed repair through Sherpa. It was handled in a professional manner. I didn't have any questions, so they came and picked it up when they said they would. We made arrangements to meet and have it picked up. They put it on a trailer and shipped it. The driver was courteous and professional.

Sherpa Auto Transport is a legit company and they don't change their prices. I couldn't drive a vehicle back from Colorado on my own, so we needed someone to transport it. I researched two companies and Sherpa Auto Transport was recommended by a friend who works in the car industry. Setting up the transport was easy. The rep really helped me out and helped me be able to hide the key for the people who took it and it was fine. The original pickup point was in Denver, Colorado. The drop-off was in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and it only took 12 hours. Everything was good.
