The process was simple and quick, waiting room was okay. They have done other services for me in the past. This was an oil change, I have also bought tires and batteries from them. I used to go only to Kia but they have not done what I came to expect since moving to Agusta.

Full confession - I grew up in my Dad's auto shop business, and after working for 40 years as an engineer doing my own work became difficult. I had put off a long list of issues but finally took my car to the Lilburn Georgia Pep Boys. The first round of work was costly but deservedly so. Several issues were corrected plus a couple of "surprise" ones. A few miles down the road there arose such a clatter - a couple of old springs decided to give their lives to the roadway. I returned to Pep Boys and they ran all over town to find the needed parts, they fixed it and there was no charge. Incredible!

Could not get the guy to replace my 4 tires with the price I had gotten online. He tried hard to confuse me, as I also needed a battery and alignment. I should have printed out the estimate and insisted on that price or walk out. Did get some discounts when I bitched and moaned, but it was still 50 bucks or so above what is should have been. Ended up the same price as Costco, more or less. Next time I will go there, as there they are more straightforward and honest. And at least i can shop during the 2 hour plus wait.

Worthless appointment and a waste of time. If I wanted to wait in line for auto repair, I could do that anywhere.

Very Bad Experience At Pep Boys. Buyers Beware!!! Here are my problems with Pep Boys.

    POOR, SLOPPY WORK. Examples-

    1) I had tires replaced several years ago. They did not fasten the spare correctly on the bottom of the vehicle where it is stored. It was actually very dangerous as the spare was dangling. Could have fallen off and damage my vehicle/other vehicles, cause an accident, or even injure/kill someone.
    2) I had my brakes replaced and rotors resurfaced here. When braking, the car would shake from side to side. They did not resurface the rotors correctly.
    3) They left grease smudges on the inside of the vehicle, by the door handle and on the inside of the door.

    4) They stripped a lug nut during tire replacement (see photograph). I was watching them when it happened. This occurred because they were so short staffed. A salesman was putting on the tires. He was not qualified to do so and should not be working on the vehicles.

    POOR TIME ESTIMATION

    1) I have come before for oil change and tire rotation WITH an appointment. It took over 3 hours.

    2) I came for tire replacement and alignment, again WITH APPOINTMENT. Came at 12:00pm. They told me it would take 3 hours. They finished at 9:30 pm.... AND THEY DIDN'T DO ALIGNMENT. So basically it took 9.5 hours to change tires (and stripped the lug nut in the process).

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. They would have different stories or excuses of why this was occurring in their store, but depending on who you talk to in the store, they would have a different story to tell. JUST TELL THE TRUTH. Never, ever going back. I highly advise you to avoid this amateur circus at all costs!!!!

This is the worst costumer service I have ever encountered. Went for their Black Friday sale for new tires, was told it would be done in 2 hours, it took 4. My alignment was never done or my inspection! Had my husband go back the next day, because he told me the car didn’t feel right. The guy said the tire was never fully tighten!! Then the guy tried to charge me again for my inspection when I already paid for it the day before! He just stared at my husband and myself with nothing to say for himself. Absolute worse customer service, explanations, and excuses. DONT GO THERE!

Rude and unprofessional employees and managers who take over 3 hrs to complete a tire change with a scheduled appointment, then return the car, keys, and paperwork to the customer, wish them a good day, but call afterwards and threaten their customers due to the shops negligence and ignorance. I went with my girlfriend who scheduled and paid for her appointment online and after being allowed to leave, was informed she needed to come back to pay (again) even though she explained numerous times she already paid online and no one at the desk or cash register advised the invoice wasn't paid prior to allowing her to leave.

She had to drive all the way back (we made it home by the time they called) for them to charge her a second time and she was threatened by a manager (Robert **) who claimed he'd call the police and say the tires were stolen if she didn't return. Extremely unprofessional and unbelievable! What kind of manager are you? The appropriate thing to do would be to report the unpaid invoice to Collections if and only if they did not have a card on file for her for the transaction, which they did have one on file. Her credit info was already within their systems. A smart individual would've checked to see if the invoice was paid before giving her the keys and if the online appt only held an authorization on the card, then they should've submitted/captured and settled the authorization it held which would've charged the credit card without making her return since the order initially took place online.

Updated on 12/08/2019: After filing a complaint with the BBB against PEP BOYS Reno Nevada location Smithridge .89502 .on 10/15/19 Pepboys has not responded to the complaint. They have had 3 warnings to respond and I was informed by the BBB they were required to give a response. Nothing as of yet to date. Do not do business with this company. CONSUMERS BEWARE.

Original Review: Complaint Details. My rims were destroyed by Pep Boys installing tires on my 2000 Yukon. They thought I would just leave after paying. But I observed the tech hitting my passenger rear wheel with a hammer. It was finished. I paid, went out to my vehicle and looked at the wheel that was being hit with hammer. I immediately saw a bunch of wheel weights on the outside of my aluminum wheel then noticed huge gouging on lip of wheel. Looked at all 4 corners and saw same marks gouging chips etc and wheel weights also on outside of wheels. I had not washed my Yukon in over 6 months. The damage that was done is brand new and obviously were all fresh pictures taken by myself at Pep Boys.

I was told they didn’t do it and the person who write the service ticket told me he watched the installation himself. He is a liar. I watched myself, stood outside watching them finish and he was helping several other customers put air in their tires and helping others. I was given a business card for me to contact manager. I reached out to Sarah ** 2 times since then and have received no correspondence back from her or anyone from Pep Boys to date.

I want to preface this post by saying, my entire family and I have always used Pep Boys for ALL of our automotive needs. We have always had amazing service. However, today I service the worst service I have ever experienced at any establishment EVER! Two weeks ago, I had a screw in my driver's side tire and needed a new tire. I was visiting my parents in Texas, so I took my car to Pep Boys and bought a new tire. In addition to the $193 tire, I purchased the roadside hazard warranty.

Today, while in the car with my 6 year old, I rubbed my tire against exposed rebar that I couldn't see from my driving position. I pulled over to the safety location I could and proceeded to put on the doughnut. I am a rather small woman, so it was pretty difficult to remove the tire and lift it into the trunk. However, I managed. I immediately called the Pep Boys we use, located on S. Carrollton in New Orleans. I was directed to the tire department and explained to them that I had a flat on a brand new tire and needed to bring my vehicle in to fix, replace, or whatever service was needed. The guy on the phone told me that they didn't offer roadside hazard warranties of any kind.

I explain that I purchased the tire in Houston, actually Humble, and was told it would be honored at any location. He said that that Pep Boys was not a chain and there was no way to look me up in the system. He said the tire was purchased in Houston, so they wouldn't honor the warranty. I asked what his name was and he said, "I don't have to tell you that." I asked to speak to a manager and he said there was no manager in the store and one wouldn't be back until the next day. I asked for the name of the manager and he hung up on me. I called again, hoping for someone else. However, he answered and, again, hung up on me. I had to be at work in an hour so I called my father in Houston and asked if he could handle it.

My father called and asked for their email and emailed a copy of my records and receipt. I took the car in and another man assisted me with removing the tire from the car. He was very helpful and kind. I proceeded to the payment desk and the guy from the phone was there. He was worse in person than he was on the phone. He first asked, very reluctant to help at all, for my phone number to see if they had my information. When I gave it to him, another person which I have absolutely no relation to came up. I asked if he could check under my husband's phone number and he said no because my husband wasn't there. I explained that my husband was active duty military and had overnight duty and was unable to be reached.

His reply was, "so?" I gave him our second phone number and my husband's information came up. He said he couldn't accept the car because it was under my husband's name. I explained that the title was in both our names. He told me he couldn't help at all. I explain that my boss was on his way and my father would call and make arrangements to just purchase a new tire. He said he needed full payment before they would look at the car. I told him my dad would call and make the payment and that I would lose my job if I was late to work. He said there was nothing he could do, he wouldn't take payment over the phone and I couldn't pay when I returned. I just walked out, in tears with a hungry tired 6 year old following.

My dad called him back and the guy hung up on him. My dad then called the Humble location, spoke to the manager, who was extremely helpful and called the store in New Orleans and spoke to a manager there. Miraculously, they are a chain and do honor warranties purchased at other locations. My tire was covered and I only have to pay $70 for labor and $30ish to have the tire balanced, which I think is strange because I had the 90 day balance plan. But I understand it's a new tire. I am so appalled at the lack of common courtesy exhibited by this man. I would expect some amount of professionalism, but his complete disregard for my business and my circumstance was astounding. I have never been so disappointed in any service I have received, ever.

This company is no longer the company we all grew up loving. The service is so horrible at the Escondido CA store!!! I made an online appointment at 2:15pm and arrived 20 minutes before the “CONFIRMED” 7pm scheduled time for a simple leaking tire repair. Was told by service desk that “they” tried to contact me. An email with the subject “Sorry you could not make your appointment, let's reschedule”, sent at 6:16pm. I was already on the road and did not read my emails. When I arrived, 4 mechanics(?) were hanging out side of one of the bays smoking and directed me to the service counter. I was told, "Sorry but everyone is too busy... Do you want to reschedule?"

** NO. Now I need to take a day off of work because of PEP Boys incompetence and not understanding the concept of the meaning of “CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT”. Yeah I’m upset! I counted on PEP Boys to take of this and at the eleventh hour with no other recourse available to me, I’m stuck! I’m sure that they will have another story and try to shift blame, because that is what the Service manager tried to do with me… “We tried to call you…” Hello, there is TEXT, SMS, MESSAGING, etc. You are better off taking your vehicle to the dealership or a trusted repair shop, or going across the street to another auto parts store. They tried to sell her an overpriced tired replacement for $110.00. They saw a woman they thought they could take advantage of. When I call the manager to complain he backtracked. Had my car in to have tires installed. Got home and they did not replace the tire valves which I was charged for. Return the next day and went out to look at valve stems with shop manager (Paul **). Told me to bring in the next day to have it done right. After 2 hours of waiting he pointed out I needed tie rod ends/Both sides. Gave me an estimate of 900.47 + tax. Of that 900.47 parts where 523.92. Went home to review the estimate and call Pep Boys front counter or parts dept. To get prices on parts needed for repair. I was quoted 210.00 for the parts. My question is how does Pep Boys get away charging a different price from the front counter to the repair shop. This has left a very bad opinion and I think they are taking advantage of the customers besides ripping people off. This matter should be looked into as soon as possible for the public interest and not bring another car in that shop to this is resolved.

My car's water pump went out literally across the street from Pep Boys. So I took my car there for them to do it. Very expensive first off but I was in a bind so I let them fix it. The guy called me back and said maybe I should change the thermostat and hoses. I told him the radiator had just been replaced and there was nothing wrong with the hoses what's the thermostat. And I didn't let it overheat at all. The extra repairs he offered well recommended would have added another $400 to my bill so I told him no. I go to get my car and when I'm pulling out it's making a horrible noise. It was right around closing so I parked it and went back the next morning.

That's when the guy tells me that I need a fan clutch and that would cost $300 if he took half off the labor. Strange part is he told me that the service guy actually drove my car after he fixed it and he didn't hear any of that. Hard to not hear something when it starts as soon as your car gets up to 2 RPMs. Total waste of my time and money. And the guy had the personality of a napkin. I recommend everyone to stay away from Pep Boys. And after reading some of the other reviews, I feel obligated to warn people about this company. If anyone ever ask me about Auto Repair the first thing I will say is don't go to Pep Boys.

I had two separate unsatisfactory experiences with Pepboys. I was looking for a lower cost alternative for basic service on my 2008 Mercedes Benz CLK550. The first time I went for a new battery after making an appointment the previous day. After waiting two hours with my car still sitting in the parking lot, I asked how long it would be. The service writer informed me that he wasn't sure they had the right memory card to restore the settings after the battery was disconnected and would go check. He came back and said they didn't have one. Two hours wasted.

The second time I needed a third brake light replaced. I talked to the service writer and he looked it up and gave me a price. I came in that same day and waited another hour before being informed that the whole halogen light bar needed to be replaced (not just a bulb) and they couldn't do it there. Another hours wasted. They seem to be very disorganized, from the service writers to the counter staff. I won't be back.

I told the service tech that I was having a death wobble and wanted them to check all parts of the suspension but mostly the front end to see if any of them were bad. After 1.5 -2.0 hours, I was told I needed to replace every control arm including the rear ones and 4 brand new tires. No explanation, didn’t mention the ball joints, u-joints, the track bar, the steering drive rod joint, nothing. Just replace all these parts which will cost $2500-3200! My tires are all fine and my control arms are fine. Idiots think that just because I’m a woman, they can talk me into buying stuff I don’t need. He just kept telling me he could get it down to $2300.

I noticed on my bill he didn’t charge me for the suspension check because I doubt it was even done. They did an oil change but when I got home after 2 hours of sitting in park. I went to my Jeep and saw a puddle of oil underneath. Turns out the damn mechanic didn’t tighten the bolt on the oil pan! I had to tighten it myself and it was literally 3 threads undone!!!! I was so mad. I barely had any oil left in the engine! Could have blown my engine on the drive home!! I will never, ever take any vehicle to Pep Boys ever again. I called and got an estimate for brakes for a BMW 5 series. They told me it would be $665. My wife brought the car in and they told her the total was $885. My wife explained that the original estimate was $665. They told her they made a mistake but that the estimate did not include brake fluid so it will be $745. My wife called me afterwards and told me what happened. I called and spoke with Austin the Division Manager. He told me that the estimate did not include brake fluid and put the Tech on the phone. I asked the tech if he had ever completed a brake job and not changed the brake fluid. He said no, he has always changed the brake fluid and put his manager back on the phone. The manager changed his story and told me that my wife requested the brake fluid. I told him that my wife would not know what brake fluid was for and therefore did not ask for brake fluid.

He then said that he had three witnesses and that I was a woman hater by saying that she didn't know anything about brakes. I told him that was not the case and he asked me if I was calling him a liar. I told him that he was lying and that I would speak with his Regional Manager. I called his Regional Manager and he said that estimates don't include brake fluid and raised his voice when I said that it should be part of the estimate or at least explained to the customer at the time of the estimate that brake fluid would be extra. He then told me that he was going to give me a life lesson on brakes.

I interrupted him and told him that he was not going to give me a lesson about anything. He then started singing at the top of his voice LALALALA. I hung up the phone. No one needs to deal with a bunch of immature kids. I will never use them again and my suggestion is that you don't either. I asked why did they wait 3 hours to contact me to let me know and I was told the store was to busy. I went to the store and brought the key so they can work on the truck. It was late in the day so I left the truck overnight so they could work on it in the morning.

I received a 30% off any oil change coupon in an email and decided to use it. On August 6th, 2019 I called and spoke to the manager at the Pep Boys store at 10124 N. Florida Ave. in Tampa, Florida. I asked the price of a conventional oil change and if it was necessary to make an appointment. He said I could just come in, no appointment needed. I asked if there was a long wait and he said there was none. I drove about 20 minutes to the shop. When I went inside to the desk and said I was there for an oil change, the manager says there will be an hour and a half to 2 hour wait. I said, “I thought you said I didn't need an appointment.” He replied 'You don't. But it'll be about a 2 hour wait. Now if he would have told me that on the phone, I wouldn't have drove the 20 minutes there. Or, I could have made an appointment to come in later and get some other things done I needed to do.

I didn't have time to wait that long as I had another appointment to be at. So I told him I can't wait that long, and he says in a cocky way 'Okay!' with a sideways grin on his face. Obviously letting me know he couldn't care less. I tried again on August 10th, 2019. This time at a different location in Tampa. I called the Pep Boys at 7655 W. Hillsborough Ave. in Tampa. I asked the price of a conventional oil change. He says $28.68. I said I have a 30% off coupon. Then he changes the price and says well it's $38.68 before the coupon. I said, “You just told me it was $10 less.” He tells me, “Well that was before I applied $10 off.” So I said, “Why didn't you tell me that? I asked the price of a conventional oil change. Not the price of a conventional oil change with $10 off.” So not trusting the deceiving price change suddenly, I said never mind and hung up. Next I called a third Pep Boys location. This one at 6022 GUNN HIGHWAY in Tampa.

I asked the manager, “How much is a conventional oil change?” He tells me yet another price. He says $24.95. I let him know that I had a 30% off coupon. He says ok no problem. (Nothing about a price change like the last shop.) I then asked if I needed an appointment or if there was a long wait. He says, “No you can come in now.” So I get in my vehicle again and drive about 15 minutes to this shop. As I pull in the parking lot, I drove past the shop bays and saw no cars in the shop at all. Just mechanics walking around the shop. So I park, go in and give the information on my vehicle to the manager. He says the price will be $27 and some change AFTER my 30% off coupon. Which is actually more than what he told me it would cost on the phone BEFORE the 30% off. He said it was because that price was only for up to 5 quarts of oil, and my vehicle takes 6. So I just let that go.

Even tho it seemed like coupon or no coupon I was gonna pay the same price. I hand him my keys, and he asks 'Are you gonna wait or come back?' I said I'll wait, it shouldn't take that long to change oil. Usually 15-20 minutes. He says no, it's gonna be about an hour and a half. I said, “What!? To change oil??” Then like the other cocky manager at the previous Pep Boys I wasted my time and he says "We're not Quick Lube, we're Pep Boys." in a punk rude tone. I was absolutely furious. I said, “Give me my keys back.” And left. I went straight home and called the Pep Boys customer relations line. For anyone who may want to call, here's the number (800-737-2692).

This call was on a Saturday morning. I explained how I was told deceiving information 3 separate times by 3 separate Pep Boys locations, 2 of which I'm positive were so called 'managers'. And how I wasted time and gas driving to and from 2 separate locations for absolutely nothing. The customer relations guy gives me a case number and says I will be getting a call from GENE within 24 hours...25 hours later, still no call. So, I call back again. Explaining I was to receive a call within 24 hrs from 'Gene' that I never received. This time I'm told that it hasn't been 24 'BUSINESS' hours. I said, “Are you kidding me!? That's NOT what I was told. Nothing was said about 'Business' hours.” Then he goes on to tell me that they have up to 3 to 4 business days to call me back regarding the case! I said, “Wait a minute! How did we go from 24 hrs, to 24 BUSINESS HOURS, to 3 to 4 business days!??”

No wonder the management and employees in the shops are deceiving! Their corporate leaders are the exact same way!! I am STILL WAITING for a phone call to resolve this issue. I'll be sure to update the end result on here for everyone to see. In the meantime, I have unsubscribed from all Pep Boys emails, and I will never, ever bring them my business again. Nor will the company I run that has numerous vehicles that need regular maintenance. I will also inform all my friends, family, and acquaintances of the unprofessionalism and deceiving practice that is considered acceptable at Pep Boys shops and by their upper management offices. Regardless of the fact that I will never go to Pep Boys for anything ever again, I will be sure to do everything in my power to take this all the way to the top and see that my experiences (PLURAL) are heard. I will not stop here.

And I will tell this story on every individual Pep Boys locations web page that I encountered these issues so that everyone has a chance to see what kind of so called business you really run. I would much rather pay more money to go somewhere that is honest, and polite than deal with people who don't care and take no pride in their job or customer relations. To all potential customers, YOU ARE WARNED!!

It’s obvious to me that Pep Boys’ only concern is the bottom line (how much money they bring in). I had an appointment to put a leak detection pump in my Chrysler 200 after having diagnostic testing done at another one of their locations. When I came in for my appointment, they refused to put the pump in because I didn’t get the diagnostic testing done at their location in Glenolden, PA. And they didn’t call me before my appointment to let me know that they couldn’t put the leak detection pump put in because of their frankly outrageous policy. I then understandably got mad at the 2 employees there, and stormed out of their store.

I had ignition coils replaced on my Nissan Altima at the Pep Boys in Lombard IL. The bill was $740. The diagnostic charge was $89 which took 1/2 hour. For the remaining "hour" I was there, I was charged $375 labor ($125 billed 3 times on the receipt). The work order and receipt show time in at 10:42 am and time out 12:12. When I checked the parts installed I saw that they they used ignition coils from Auto Zone - Duralast C1696-4 (Labeled Outside purchase). The coils were itemized as costing $396, but when I checked the part number with AutoZone they sold for $189 for entire the set. The installation cost was ridiculous given how easy and fast the parts are to change and $375 is 3 times their hourly shop rate. I am furious because I used to be a regular customer. Maybe they thought I wouldn't check the new parts and the time in and out!

I had brake rotors and brake pads installed all the way around as well as shocks all the way around. Also had a new master cylinder installed and I wanted them to flush the power steering fluid and perform an oil change. They left some of the hard and heavy old hardware to the old shocks in the engine compartment. They put the wrong oil in the car. The oil cap clearly states 5w-30. They put 10w-30 in it, and now the oil is leaking from the oil plug. The new master cylinder they installed is leaking. The power steering won't hold any fluid at all now. It just all leaks out overnight. My informed guess is they didn't install the O-rings back on the hoses. This car didn't leak a single drop of anything before taking it to these people. That said, I certainly don't trust the brake pads and brake rotors they installed. I paid over a thousand dollars for them to tear it up basically.

I called the headquarters line and they had a regional rep call me, but he basically said tough cookies, no refund given. Real jerk about it, too. Very obtuse. He claimed the mechanic had 30 years experience. Pffft. Please. I imagine my car is just another notch on that record of broken vehicles that left there. So, no refund at all, no sorry, no nothing. My Corvette is no longer drivable now and I'm left with a very, very bad experience with this company. Particularly this regional guy. I'm going to have to take it to a small family owned mechanic to undo the damage Pep Boys did to my car and get it fixed right. That'll be a couple more thousand dollars.

Back in the eighties Pep Boys was reliable. Nowadays all they want to do is upsell you needless work and you're lucky to get out of there unscathed. Looking at the invoice, they had over four thousand dollars more work they thought they were gonna create for themselves but I got it out of there once I realized they were taking two days to do a half day worth of work. I wasn't going to take a chance on them tearing more things apart and then being stuck. Reading other reviews, it seems to be a trend, at least in the Mid-Atlantic region where I live. Never again. I won't stop there for anything, not even for Windex.

I arrived at my appointment and the clerk said all he seen was that I had an appointment scheduled. They didn't know for what and didn't see a coupon. Told me it would be $78 for an oil change, when I ask why he said that every car is different and that $50 was just an estimated price not a set price.

Later he came out and changed his story saying $50 is the set price but I had to pay extra because I had a special filter that cost more and wasn't standard for most cars (I drive a 2011 Chevy Cruze) saying it was a cartridge and not a screw type so it cost a lot more almost 15 dollars. After about 40 minutes they came out and said that 2 of my tires need to be replaced because 1 was "dry rotted" but had no signs of cracks or wear and the other had 2 screws in it IN THE SIDEWALL... Said also there was no coupons or deals on just 2 tires and I had to buy full price for over $140 each.

The trip ended up costing me $300 for a simple oil change where my tires had no issues before I visited their store... Oh and by the way everyone that came there at the same time as me was there for something minor as well but had "bad tires" too. When they lowered the vehicle, I walked out to the garage and politely said "you know I wanted an oil change" and the manager turned to the mechanic and asked him and they insisted that it was done. I was upset knowing they did not but they insisted.

Now, six months later I took my car in for a oil change and tire rotation. I marked all 4 tires. I waited on the service and continuously looked into the garage to see what they were doing. Same thing, the vehicle is lowered and driven to the front. I waited for the mechanic to walk in and hand the keys to the manager. With the manager there, I said I wanted a tire rotation. He hesitated and then said "based on the tire depth it didn't warrant changing, didn't need it". I said I want it anyway. The manager then said, "It is Pep Boys' policy to put the best tires in the back." I told them my previous experience and they insisted on the policy.

I asked to see the written policy; I said I would sign a waiver; they just continued to insist it was policy. I told them my policy was not to pay for service I don't receive and the manager said "OK I'll note that on your account". If that is a true policy it doesn't make sense. If you have all 4 new tires the back tires will always be better and they will never get rotated. I should note this was two different Pep Boy stores both in Pensacola Fl.

I exchanges the core at The same time I got the first new 13957 which was wrong. So the gift card credit only was 88.00 but should have been 40.00 for core for 128 even 30 core is 118 but I never got receipt that shows I ever had a core credit? I had the original receipt. Then San Leandro has the 11088 for 124.00 so my receipt has Wilson alternator 84.99. Then it had Wilson alternator 124.99 -40.00 that’s where the 84.99 then she puts 40. Back on as a core item? So after she recharges me it from 84.99 then to 124.99 then with my credit she said I OWED 48.07? This can’t be right? Plus on the original receipt it state core item 0.0?

Here is my driveway after an oil change at Pepboys on March Lane in Stockton. There is no oil in the car because it is all on my driveway. My son got an oil change and went to work to deliver pizzas. He called me and told me his oil light came on so I had to bring him my car to finish his deliveries. He got the oil changed so he did not have problems and this terrible job Pepboys did hopefully has not caused any serious problems to my son's engine.

Updated on 08/16/2019: They pretend to care about these reviews and some intern reached out to me saying he wanted to help resolve the aforementioned review of mine and when I emailed him back (no phone # of course) I never heard from him from February-August. SCAMMERS of the utmost.

Original review: The level of discrimination against a single female at a Pep Boys is disgusting and criminal. Sharing this story so others are informed. I went in for a diagnostic appointment at 1437 Sunrise Plaza Dr, Clermont, FL 34714. The manager ** along with ** never provided an authorization form for work performed (pursuant to Florida Statute 559.905 Written motor vehicle repair estimate and disclosure statement required). The entire team at this store proceeded to take my car apart and tell me they were unable to reassemble my car and come back later. (They wouldn't lower it from the lift or put my tires back on.) They held my car for 3 days hostage and charged me over $1800 to get it back. (My car KBB value is $400).

When I brought up the statute and the price versus the value of my car ** berated me verbally in front of other customers and bullied me into literally buying my car back from them. The only way to get my car back was to sign for the over $1800 of which I signed electronically not my name but merely, "under duress, with extreme prejudice." After taking my car to another verified mechanic, he found all my OEM parts were replaced with aftermarket parts and work charged on Pep Boys receipt (5 pages long) was not even done to the vehicle. ** the manager is a thief and has no shame in stealing from customers by unethical means.

I ended up hiring an attorney to litigate the unsafe measures and stealing this establishment performed as I now have an unsafe vehicle with improper parts per two separate inspections by dealership and other mechanic. My attorney litigated with Pep Boys corporate office who was also verbally abusive. However, after 4 months, Pep Boys corporate attorney agreed upon a $1000 refund with my attorney. Upon rendering my address of where to send payment, no payment was ever received. (Years later). This company never planned to follow through because the fish rots from the head down and this thievery exists from a store in Florida all the way up to corporate offices. Buyer beware.

They ordered a new motor from up north which got snowed in. I NEVER got a call or update about my car. I had to call. Scott the manager avoided my calls all the while, they had to hire a SUBLET mechanic to do the work. After a week I got a quote 464.00 after warranty pay out. Another week passes still no updates, turns out they needed more parts, 23 days later I get the call the car is ready. Total ticket payout 741.00 for "taxes". I waited and waited for over 15 minutes and they never looked my way. I was standing by my car waiting for assistance. I figured they were not interested in my business so I left. I actually should thank them. I went right down the street to Discount Tires. They were courteous, punctual and even took the time to find a nail in my tire. I wasn’t going to review this shop but it finally got the better of me. I feel I have the “right”. Three years ago, I had a $600 brake job done on my 2005 Dodge Ram. It was “time” and I got tired of the hard braking. I have always had good luck at Pep Boys in the past, with the exception of someone putting on a wrong brake line that got severed one day while braking.

In less than a year, the rotors were warped and the truck shimmied again braking down through 40mph and then again at 20mph. I took the truck back in, wasted another day waiting on them to fix it and down the road I went. In less than another year the shimmy was back. I took it back again...the mechanic took it for for a drive and admittedly, never took the truck over 40mph. Upon his return, he said it was just a little shimmy and looked at me like I was whining about some very small thing. I’m sorry...but should there by ANY shimmy in braking? So they “fixed” it again and when I drove out, the shimmy wasn’t any less than when I took it in. I thought about wasting another day of mine for them to explore their incompetence but just vowed to never go to Pep Boys again...and I won’t. I’ll eat the $600 and take it somewhere else. Can you feel that Pep Boys...we're done!

Friday February 8th at 4 pm I dropped off my 2016 Jeep Cherokee for a simple wheel alignment and rotation. I wanted this because I had spent $800 a year ago on new tires for this car from Pep Boys and just wanted the suggested maintenance done to them. They said the car would be ready by Saturday but I was going out of town so I told them I’d be picking it up Sunday morning. Sunday February 10th I walked into the Pep Boys to get my car after nobody returned my call on the phone asking about my car. When I got there they said they forgot to do the service on my car and that it would be done in 30 minutes and it was 1:30 pm at the time. I was pretty mad at this point considering having to wait when I left it for 2 days ago so I decided to watch them do everything just to make sure nothing weird was going on.

Soon after my car was driven onto a lift and then was left there to sit for 10 mins. My car was then taken off the lift after not being raised up or anything done to it at all. Knowing that it's not uncommon to get scammed at car places I checked the tread on the tires prior to leaving the car. The service was awful and a little shady so I checked my tires to see if they had been rotated and they hadn’t been. I told the guy as he was trying to ring me up and he then froze up and told me they had forgot. Knowing that he was lying I started to question if they had aligned the tires. Even so I told the guy I thought they were lying because they never lifted the car off the ground or even put the alignment panels on the wheels at all. They claimed they did it but told me they would redo everything and credit me for everything.

Keep in mind they were straight up lying to my face because I watched them do everything in the waiting room which has a viewing window. This was an obvious scam being run. They are acting like they are doing rotations and alignments but aren’t doing anything at all. I spend at total of 3 hours today at Pep Boys when I was only supposed to be there for 2 mins. This cost me time making money and who knows how many people have been scammed because I just got lucky and caught it. This is very unlawful and if needed I will get an attorney involved. Hopefully you decide to fire these employees for their lying to customers and scamming them. The ratings for this place online are already awful enough. Just go investigate yourself. Just try and bring your car to this place and you’ll see what I mean.

I take of my car well. Never had a problem. I go in for new wheels. They have to realign the wheels. They use a rubber hammer. 1 week later my compressor for my ac dies. The spinning wheel on it is wobbly. It's located on the bottom of the engine. I didn't hit nothing for it to become wobbly. Went back. I need a new one. Costs and labor over 1k. Not long after. I went in for new brakes. "You need new rotors." "Just brakes for now." "You need them now." "It's for your safety or we can't do it." So 'cause of finances they did the back rotors and brakes 'cause some life left in the front. They also did an inspection WHICH TURNED OUT FINE? Not long after I'm going in reverse and there's this crunching sound. 'Cause I just paying off a sum I had to hold off so in 2 weeks' time. The sound was from crunching to squeaking to the sound of a tire rubbing.

Mostly only when I pull out. Or after the long drive. When I park. So I started looking up all possibilities. Couldn't be the transmission fluid. I did need new fluid. So on my own I changed it. The car seemed better. But it turned out the sound was just taking some time off so again I kept looking it up and it showed it could come from after new brakes and rotors. So now I have to go back. I use their Synchrony card. Which a day after I let them know about it but it was a busy day and said I'll come back on the weekend. Shockingly my limit was raised. So I bring it in and tell them the noise coming from the back. Remember I passed inspection. I also needed brake fluid. Coolant. Oil change. Fan belt change after giving ok. They bring me into the garage. "It's not the back. You need new brakes and rotors in the front." So I spend all day there.

I see the guy talking low to the manager. Sound like something not working. I said, "Hi. That's my car. What's not working." "All is fine." I need another bottle of oil. It takes 7 bottles. I'm like, "What." My car always and only takes 6. Before he gets upset. "You're the chef." Meaning just like a chef you don't want someone mess with your food. So I go with him and say, "There it goes." None points to something else. I'm like. "What's that." REGULAR OIL. "What. My car takes synthetic." "Your car told me it takes regular." Huh I have no option I ever seen. My manual and etc. Of all times was always synthetic. So. They had to drain the wrong oil which you know leftovers are still on the walls inside. It gets worse hold on. Well all is down. They pull it out. And it's crunching more than before the sound. He drives it around. Can't figure where it's from.

Now it sounds like by the front tire. They put it on the lift. And the guy starts grabbing parts and shaking them. Forgot the name. The long pole in the middle that turns when you drive. Well grabbing and shaking on that. After a while. He says it's this box. Or the pole right where it enters. It's the transfer case. And it's making even more noise. "Oh we don't know about that here. You need to go somewhere else." Now I have a long ride home and it's crunching the whole time. That I'm praying I'll make it home. They charged me $903. Which filled up my card again. I'm screwed. I go to Ford which is my car and had to ask about their card. The people who do that ain't there on Saturday. Called my bank to increase my credit. It worked. They had to changed the case for a new one. If you catch the problem early. Sometimes you just need new fluid.

But after Pep Boys touched it. Was done. $1800. Also Pep Boys didn't notice there was a leak in my front wheel suspension. So I emailed the head office and they made a case which I didn't know much. I was like, "I'm not going to sue." 'Cause it's hard to win against garages. That's more money. Well they said the shop has 48 hrs to contact me which he did. "How can we help you. Come to the shop. See what we can do." I'm like, "I'm not bringing my car there again." They didn't know what the problem was and how to fix it. He suppose to look into it further of the cameras. "But what can we do for you." I said, "Lower my card." "I'll see what I can do." Never hear from him in a week. I texted him 'cause he called in the morning and I knew less which now is their insurance suppose to pay for what they did wrong.

So the text is in detail and common sense 'cause the cams are above the cars while they're under. Just as you read this whole thing. Common sense will tell you. No response so I did the email again. Their heads will look into it. And now it's been a week again. Look the workers take orders so they're all doing what the boss wants. Again. No problems till I went there. I left Ford with car almost like new again. Have to go back for suspension 'cause of money. Avoid them at least that store at all cost. ** I'm happy then upset again I backed up to this when it asked to show a receipt. Was happy 'cause when you wait. They give you papers what they're doing and what you ask for.

Then they give you a new receipt. There's says I mention a noise coming from the transfer case when mine said a noise from the back wheels. I was ecstatic I had even more proof. Stupid me said if they need it. He took a page. The one where I mention the noise from the wheels which was the whole reason. I'm not the mechanic. Not only they took that paper. From me looking for it I see even more bs. It says congratulations. I have made a smart decision to protect myself from future labor costs. It says I purchased a labor extended warranty it's on the back page. But it's not on the receipt. Oh it's on. It's like they're use to this. So prepared. Omg!!!

After getting it on the lift to repair the alternator, they said the struts just fell out due to corrosion- non drivable- Now the fix, $1500. Just 3 years ago the front suspension was fixed when we had recall work done at the Hyundai dealership.

Unbeknownst to Pep Boys, My husband, who is a top fuel dragster mechanic and , drove 200 miles to look at the car. The struts were fine- although they looked us in the eye saying it couldn't be driven. We drove the car off the lot and took it to a mechanic friend with a lift -we needed one to look at the struts and we needed the machine to check the alternator and battery. The battery was fine, the alternator was fine and the struts were still intact. It is almost like they were preying upon an out of town student. Thank heavens we drove there before we authorized the repairs on things that didn't even need repaired! Thank heavens my husband is a mechanic- And we had the time to drive the miles to check it out! We would have been out $1500 in repairs that weren't needed!!!

When I arrived at the location, I was asked by the counter clerk if I was called that my tires were in. I said no, and was told that it would take 3 days and that I was allowed to make an installation appointment for that time. He just shrugged and said “We don’t get shipments in until Friday, so you have to wait until we call you.” I explained that I wasted a vacation day at work and he obviously didn’t care.

I reached out to Pep Boys' customer service, and was promised “Senior Management” would reach out to me by phone within 48 hours. That of course didn’t happen. This morning, I received an email that my order was canceled because I did not show up for my appointment. I reached back to customer service, and was told that the regional manager logged in the system that he tried to call me yesterday at 3:00. I received no call or message. I was told I would receive a call today. Still waiting. I went to Pep Boys in Santa Fe, NM to have my driver's side low-beam light bulb replaced. I knew I could have probably fixed the blown out bulb myself, but it was on my driver's side and I would have to remove my car's battery to get to it. I am well aware of Pep Boys' bad reputation, but I stupidly thought "it's just a little light bulb, a quick fix, they can't mess that up, can they?". My mistake! They definitely can!

When I took my car in, the only problem was the blown out driver's side low beam, both my high-beams/DRLs worked and my passenger side low-beam still worked. I dropped my car off and waited, after about 45 minutes the mechanic (I really hate calling him this, because he really isn't one) brought my key back and said it was done. He also told me that he "had trouble getting it in because whoever had installed the bulb last had forced it in and 'broken' the connector the bulb goes into, but not to worry because he got it in". I thanked him, paid and went to my car to leave. I tested my lights and my driver's side low beam was still out.

I went back inside and got him, he came out and tried forcing the bulb in and told me "see this is what I'm talking about, the bulb is supposed to click into place, but whoever installed it last broke the connector, but don't worry it's actually a quick fix." I asked him if he could replace the connector for me and he said he couldn't do it at the shop for me because "Pep Boys' mechanics are licensed to do electricals (what the heck are lightbulbs btw??) but that he can do it for me under the table on his day off". I stupidly agree, thinking I don't have much of a choice and that this part needs to be replaced.

I drive off and notice that my DRL indicator is lit up on my dashboard. I get out and see that both my daylight running lights are now out, once it gets dark I notice that both my brights are now out as well. I am now driving with literally only one light, just my passenger-side low-beam, all other lights (that had all worked fine before the visit) are now out.

I take my car to a real mechanic thinking it might be a blown fuse or something, but no, fuses are fine. Actually the connector is fine too. The only real problem is that the guy at Pep Boys is a big, shady idiot! He had removed the bulb from the driver's side bright/DRL (which was fine when I took it there and did not need to be replaced) and was trying to force the bulb that belonged in the low-beam socket into the high-beam socket and saying that the socket/connector was broken when it didn't fit (and that I needed to pay him under the table to fix it). He hadn't actually even touched the low-beam light which was the original one that needed to be fixed and he had removed a bulb from the high-beam which actually didn't need it!

Pep Boys is shady AF! I have no clue if he did it on purpose so I'd spend more money with him under the table or genuinely is a complete idiot and had no idea what he was doing. But the bottom line is, they didn't fix the original problem I had, they created a new one, and most importantly they put me in a REALLY dangerous position by sending me away with almost NO headlights. I need to go back in to get a refund, but am preparing myself, because I am expecting poor customer service and a fight when I do :(

They don't have part but can get it. I ask if it's possibly the fuse. They say no. I decline the service and will find/fix the part myself. No local car parts place seems to stock it so I order from Amazon for $26. It arrives that Monday and I install it after I get home from work. But... the new light doesn't work. So after about an hour troubleshooting in 24 degree cold at night, reviewing shop manuals and online forums, I go look at the fuse box.

Fuses are located in the engine department in a covered closed black box. To my shock, the fuse operating the 3rd brake light is MISSING!!! Someone at Pep Boys removed the fuse and tried to defraud me into paying $150+ to re-insert the fuse... WTF!!! I complain the next day to the Store Manager. He agrees that the fuse operates the brake light and that fuses can't come loose and fall out on their own. He apologizes and offers me a free oil change. I complain to Pep Boys corporate and they direct me to the Store Manager. I went there for years and advocated their services. Buyer beware, don't go to Pep Boys in Hicksville, NY. Pep Boys = fraud. They discovered they did not have the parts in stock only after the original lugs and stems were already broken. They could not put the tires on without the lug nuts to secure them but they did just that anyway and did not inform me when I drove off that three lug nuts were missing on the rear tires. Brought car in at 12:30; car not ready until after 5 pm because mechanic did not tell front desk that vehicle was "ready" 30 minutes earlier. Installation cost increased from $58 to $148. So this has to be broken down into parts so that I can be as clear as possible in warning other people who might find themselves in a similar situation that I was in. To set things up, my check engine light came on and my vehicle started a slight shudder which got progressively worse as I searched for a mechanic to run a diagnostic under the hood. This was on a Saturday at about 3 o’clock. Pep Boys was the only place who still had techs on hand to do what I needed; this is about the only good thing I can say from this entire experience. It was all downhill from there.

They stated it could take anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours to figure out the problem so they told me I could wait or they would call me a lift. I opted for the ride as I stated earlier this visit was born out of desperation not any sense of trust or faith. I saw what they did to my dad when he got his inspection done two years back and $2,000 later. And that says nothing compared to the poor woman who had been in the waiting area at the same time as us back then, crying on her phone to someone who had to pick her up…

I got back to my house and it was at this point my wife and I started playing the waiting game. Waiting for some kind of news as to how the coming week would play out with our commute to our jobs. Many of you will probably be able to relate to that sense of dread as you have only one car between you. Even if you have two it is still a drastic upset to the routine as you now have to alter your time to carpool. Well our news came about three hours later to the tune of $1,200. One ignition coil and gasket, plus all six spark plugs needed to be replaced they told me. When asked for a breakdown they informed me that the single coil would be upwards of $145 plus another $29 for the gasket alone. Lord knows what they thought 6 spark plugs should cost.

Now that I knew what they thought the problem was, I can say I made these exact repairs not two years previous. It’s an easy to moderate job even for a DIY’er like me. And the parts can be found online (all six coils and plugs) for less than a hundred. So of course my question is where did they get the other $1,100 from? Nice try Pep Boys. Think about how many people they do this to and you start to get the idea how they became a billion dollar company as of the late 90’s.

I have since ordered the parts myself and paid those crooks their $95 for just a heap of bad news, in every sense of the word. Might take me three or four hours but it will be so much more worth it than being unable to feed my family. “The work needs to be done,” was all they kept saying without an ounce of a conscience, as if I was holding out on them with their ‘protection money’. How do they expect people to pay this when they simply do not have it? Why apply for their credit card of course so they can charge you even more in interest. I have a better idea now what that poor woman must have been going through. Now even if the parts I ordered don’t last quite as long as their solid gold spark plugs there is no way it’s worth 12x what I picked them up for.

Now if your vehicle is under warranty, great! But otherwise save yourselves the trouble and find a small outfit where you can actually get to know the owner and the mechanic’s. Use the routine oil change/tire rotations as the opportunities to find one. It will allow you to make the most educated decisions when it comes to the care of your vehicle. They offer guarantees just like the big guys but they have to look you in the eye when they deal with you. You don’t know how many people are taking advantage of you when it comes to a large outfit like Pep Boys. And we never will. Don’t be a piece of their profits, enough said.

In addition one of the tires installed correct side out was not installed properly at valve stem location. I contacted Pep Boys by phone and email. A Mr. Jason ** assured me it would be looked into on November 7. Three weeks later no one contacted me so I took the car back and spent another 3 hours of my time having the tires reinstalled correctly. I contacted Mr. ** several times over the next month and a half and all he ever did was tell me he talked to the store. Would not say anything else or DO ANYTHING to amend for the lost of my time.

My son visited the Pep Boys located at 6333 Marlboro Pike Forestville, MD 20747, on Saturday, November 17, 2018 to obtain some mechanical work/repair to his vehicle. He took his vehicle in at 8:30am in the morning for an alternator replacement. The vehicle was not available for pickup until 6:30pm. The average Nissan Altima, alternator replacement is 2 hours. They kept my son's car for 9 hours, absorbed! My son drove to work with was only about 16 miles from the Pep Boys where he received service for his vehicle.

When he got off work (12: 30 am November 18, 2018) he drove back home which is about 1 mile from Pep Boys. He never made it home. His vehicle started to operate the same as when he bought the vehicle to Pep Boys for service/repair. For safety reasons he pulled his vehicle over into Forestville Mall, which is 1 mile from Pep Boys, his vehicle shut off. He looked under the hood and notice that both his battery cables were loose on their post, both caps (low and high) for the air conditioning was removed. He called for a tow truck. He had to get a jump start in order to get his vehicle on the tow truck and he had to get a jump start to get his vehicle off the tow truck. He towed the vehicle to Pep Boys, where the repairs were done.

Please note it was 1:00am Sunday, November 18, 2018 when he had the vehicle towed. He was the second person in line once Pep Boys doors opened on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 9:00am. The person in front of him only needed a battery changed. 3:00pm came around and he has not heard back from Pep Boys, so called them. He was told that they have not had a chance to look at his vehicle and they may not be able to get to his vehicle until Monday, November 19, 2018. This was because they had other Service Tickets that was before him (Shouldn't a returned vehicle that just had repairs performed on the vehicle take precedent over those who came in after him. Or even if they were left over from the prior day, my son has already waited 15 hours to get an alternator replacement).

I thought that was very unprofessional, bad busy practice and total absurd. It has now taken 15 hours to replace an alternator in a 2002 Nissan Altima. I went up to the Pep Boys, when I arrived my son’s car was being test driven by an employee of Pep Boys. I walked into the Pep Boys Service/Repair side and no one was at the Service Counter. I walked around back and saw 5 mechanics standing around one vehicle with their hands in their pockets. I said, WOW it takes 5 mechanics to work on one car where there is other vehicles that need service work. So I asked where is the Manager? One of the mechanics walked off the other 4 stayed. One of the mechanics told me he didn't know who the manager was (this employee name is ** (spelling could be incorrect)).

The ** mechanic told me he is over there pointing towards where my son's mother was standing in the parking lot, where the unknown employee was just returning with test driving my son’s vehicle. The unknown employee that was test driving my son’s vehicle identified himself as being the Manager. I asked him NUMEROUS of times what was his name. He refused to answer me. He told me in his own words and I quote, "This is District Heights, MD and I don't feel comfortable with giving you my name, in fear of my life that you might come back and do something to me". I was appalled and shocked out of my mind when he told me that. For him accusing me, a customer of coming back later to do some type of bodily harm to him based on the City and State he works in.

So I then asked him will my son's car be fixed today and why is he being told that the car can’t get fixed until Monday, November 18, 2018. He said that it was fixed and then got upset I was questioning him about why my son was told that his car was not going to be looked at, repaired until Monday, November 19, 2018. He went on telling me that he was the only one at the service desk and none of the other mechanics conveyed to him that the car was fixed.

At this point he was yelling and screaming at me as he walked away and at the same time **, who identified herself as the manager on duty. So she gave me this unidentified employees name, **! ** started to get so irate, acting unprofessional by yelling and screaming at me and my son's mother, to the point he got all the other mechanics riled up and they started yelling and screaming at me and my son's mother.

So I become threatened by all of them as they were walking towards me and my son’s mother. When mentioned to ** that, that is very unprofessional and uncalled for. She totaled agreed. She also gave me the employee name that didn't now the managers name, which this employee name was **. ** started to justify that ** is stress out because he is the only one at the service desk, he has to handle all of the customers that's coming in. OK isn't that his job working the service desk. There is an abundance of training that needs to take place.

Updated on 01/06/2019: I took my aging Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo to the Pep Boys on North Military Highway, in Norfolk Virginia, to get some work done, and my oil changed... I am not confident that they even changed my oil at all because a few days later, I needed to let some oil out of the engine to make room for an additive, and the oil that came out was pitch black, as if it was old oil. I did not put the additive in because I want them to complete the work they charged me for first, but I am somewhat disgusted by this, and have a vision of a bunch of so called 'mechanics' sitting around in a garage clapping their hands while charging for work that was never actually done at all.

I have a receipt that shows the change, and lists Quaker State oil, and new filter, but what they seem to have done is recycled old oil into my vehicle instead of clean new oil. It is now Sunday, and there is no way to reach out to anybody from Pep Boys for answers, so I will have to wait until tomorrow to get a response about this, but I have to warn anybody who is thinking of Pep Boys as an honest garage to get their cars fixed, to think again, and be very cautious as to whether or not they even bothered to do the work they charged you for!

Original Review: I have an older Jeep, a 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, and I have been doing mostly my own service to the vehicle for years now, but for a recent issue that I could not figure out I made the mistake of taking the car to Pep Boys in Norfolk, and they came back with a unabridged novel of things that needed to be repaired/replaced, as well as an OUTRAGEOUS cost to do these things... This cost included parts and labor, but both were extreme. The parts had an average 'slight' markup of somewhere around 400%, and the labor per hour was what you might expect to pay a Lawyer/Surgeon, in the neighborhood of $175 - $250 per hour labor. On top of this, they consistently over-estimate the labor needed by a couple of hours.

I say this because I went there before to have my water-pump replaced, and they came back with an estimate that was around a thousand dollars. I was dumbfounded by this, and asked for an itemized breakdown, which was provided. This breakdown showed that they were charging $480 for the pump, and $38 for the thermostat, and had the labor at 5 hours. For the life of me, I could not find a water pump that was anywhere near $480, and every thermostat I found was closer to $10 - $20, at most.

So, I went right down the street to AutoZone, and bought a pump for closer to $70 with tax, and a $13 thermostat, and did it myself, in under an hour. SO, I was confused by their ridiculous estimate, but figured it was done with so whatever. Now I took my vehicle into Pep Boys again to replace the Serpentine Belt, something I could easily do myself, but I am getting lazier as I age, and they came back with $478, because apparently they decided the tensioner needed to be replaced as well. They also started trying to up-sale me to get new tires for the vehicle, which was not what I brought the car there. I informed them that I was not looking for tires, just the belt replacement, and so I am now stuck paying almost 5 hundred dollars for a job that is normally closer to $150, because Pep Boys is constantly trying to find new things to repair, even if they are not needed... BE CAREFUL PEOPLE, they are ruthless!!

This isn't about a specific Pep Boys location but about Pep Boys business practices! Through my experiences over the last couple of weeks, I’ve learned a lot about how Pep Boys price their service. By all accounts, service pricing is a whore’s business and just maybe, Pep Boys is at the top of the list. I’ve read a lot about the current industry practices regarding pricing and none of it is good. Once upon a time, pricing was based on REAL numbers like the number of hours it really takes to do a job not some inflated number, just because! Oh, and yes, there was a reasonable markup on parts not more inflation.

Worst of all, I had work done, and labor costs incurred because the job was quoted to me from a list of things that should be or could be done to resolve the issue without regard for what was wrong. This was done, and an expensive part replaced that wasn’t necessary. Simply stated, this is just another way to do unnecessary work at the customer's expense. I was lucky, the Manager of the location where I had this service done, made everything right. If it wasn’t for him and my ability to identify what was happening, this old guy would have been taken advantage of in a big way.

Upon leaving my vehicle for a day, I was informed that it needed around $800.00 in repairs. I wasn't sure if this was correct but since I've had zero issues with my vehicle I approved them for the work. Upon picking up my vehicle I paid them and proceeded to leave the facility, after I got one block away I called to inform them that something was wrong. I was hearing a loud ticking noise, and seeing my Engine Oil Pressure gauge go up and down.

I proceeded to return my vehicle to the facility in which they stated it was in need of an Oil change. I approved this also but once again after leaving the facility I called again and informed them that now my vehicle was leaking oil on the driveway. They proceeded to make excuses as I showed them video evidence that my vehicle never leaked oil at all. This goes from bad to worse, as now I just placed my vehicle with another repair facility and was informed on 12/29/18 that my vehicle needs a new engine. I'm looking to sue Pep Boys as they informed me they didn't think their technicians were qualified to work on my vehicle. Please advise if anyone knows a good Attorney.

Now Rick’s boss Jay, I cannot stress to you he was horrible to deal with, when I asked him to give to me all of the service and warranty for free he laughed and hung up on me to threatening me and my service work. When I asked to speak with his boss he told me no matter how much I complained it would come back to him and he would make sure the complaint died with him and not his boss.

NAMES AND DETAILS ARE INCLUDED. My Volkswagen CC 2012 is still taken by them at this very moment. Lost every dollar value right now of the car ~$8000 for their wrongdoing. To start with, Pep Boys deserve NEGATIVE stars. Because the STORE MANAGER CHRIS tow my car WITHOUT my permission to an IMPOUND car lot when I’m JUST A CUSTOMER to the store while I was making a decision to spend ~$7800 for them to fix my car engine. Plus, they ask me to pay South Main Auto Storage $230 fee from MY OWN POCKET to get my car back. When MANAGER CHRIS IS the one who take away my car my property from their store.

I’m extremely angry, disappointed and frustrated after my recent experience with the Southwest Fwy store. First of all, I’m a regular customer since 9/2017, visiting the store every few months for my car repair/tire, including 2 tires: ~$500, fuel pump + 1 tire: ~$1800, 1 tire: ~$200, diagnosis of the car: total ~ 300. I was a happy customer because of JB, Diego and Erick the mechanic. They provide the best customer service. Until recently my Volkswagen CC 2012 Lux ‘s engine acting weird, I pay the diagnostic to check my car. It's the fuel pump.

Then I still drive the car for a week or 2 till one night I decide to drop my car in the store because my car engine failed. I pay the diagnostic to check the car again to see what issue. They give me the bad news. It turns out I need to replace the engine (a lot of money). But they don't know the price yet. I was devastated and tell them I will need to find out my options. 2 weeks later, I decide to ask Pep Boys to check how much is the engine price total. The person say that they can provide the price the next day. I heard nothing from them, I waited until the end of the week. They left me a voicemail about the price (7800). I came in that Saturday talk to the people in the store, I told them I need to come up with a plan of $7800 to fix something.

Less than a week later, I discover this crooked Manager CHRIS send someone to TOW MY CAR MY PROPERTY TO IMPOUND LOT. A car shop you expect them to take care of your car for the money you going to pay them. That’s how they treat the customer. That’s **! What’s more **? They expect you to waste your own time and $230 to get the car out of there. It’s a long review, I lost my car to learn that PEP BOYS is the worst car repair shop.

According to Mavis Tire with 100% Better reviews it is the only way you could possibly break this part. I checked my tire pressure there on 9/6/18. All 5 tires (Spare) were at 35 PSI. All tires. On 10/25/18 Unaware of the above damage and planning on an interstate 200-mile road trip. I checked my oil myself with the help of my engine hood latch rod. I took the car to the same 4th Ave Brooklyn shop. I asked them to check the tire pressure. The repair guy said that he had checked all of them. When I got the car back the malfunction gas cap light was on. After driving the car back home I checked the oil to make sure they put in 5 quarts. I realized then that they had broken my hood latch.

Yesterday at Mavis tire they ran 2 diagnostic and told me that they (Pep Boys) had broken my speed sensor valve repairing my now squeaky and grabbing brakes. I asked them to please check my tire pressure all 4 tires had 55 lbs in them except for the spare that had 35lbs. I was told I would have made great gas mileage, but the tires would have blown out on the 90+ degree heat on the FL interstate. Just got off the phone with their district Mgr. That was an awful decision. When I got there they did treat me with good customer service and explained “everything” clearly. They told me the control arms were worn out, the tie rods needed replacing, and the bushings on the front right driver's side needed replacing also. Pep Boys had the best price at $186.19. Prior to going to pick it up, I searched for the alternator in my vehicle and discovered that it was BURIED deep, so I call Pep Boys and asked how much labor was... $187.00. Since I have roadside and could get it towed, $187.00 was not worth the hassle of me doing it myself.

Upon arriving at Pep Boys in Hollywood, Florida, they informed me that it would be over $700.00 for parts and labor after I was expecting to pay about $370.00 plus tax. I was like, "WHAT!?!?" They wanted over $400 for the part ($186.19 online), the "labor" line item was $187.00), but they tried sneaking in an extended warranty for $31.00 and a shop supply fee for $35.00 (you maybe use a rag for this job). Totally baloney!!!

I got them to honor the online part price, told them I didn't want the extended warranty, and that their shop fee was way out of line. They reduced it to $15.00. After not receiving a call that it was ready by 5:00, they said that they were still working on it. OK, no problem, I made other transportation arrangements for the night.

At 6:00 pm, I got a call saying the car was ready, but I advised them, AGAIN, that I would not be able to pick it up until the next morning when the open. Oh heck no... you promised 4:30, knew I wasn't available after 5:00, called at 6:00, and now tried to charge $50 because they were past their promise time and I couldn't get it. Got that waived too... In all, the job that was initially represented to cost $370.00, then tried to charge over $750.00 w/overnight fee, would up costing just under $400 with tax and reduced nonsense shop fee. The next day the sound returned louder and a vibration felt in the car when brakes was applied. Took the vehicle to another Pep Boys location who immediately spotted that bolt joints were damaged and cause the wheel to be very shaky. They highlighted that this placed the car at a high risk and it was unsafe to drive.

I had the vehicle towed to the original Pep Boys location. It seemed to me the manager's main concern was that the other location pointed out the poor job of alignment done and of their incompetence in noticing the very noticeable fact of the bolts and that even if missed on inspection, should’ve been noticed when the caliper was tightened. They then wanted to charge me approx $400 to fix the bolt joint and said they would realign for free (bear in mind I already paid for the poorly done alignment). They didn’t apologize for putting my life in danger.

Also I was told that bolt joints don't go bad overnight and my concern and suspension keep elevating. They also charged me road hazard warranty quantity times 4 on the receipt cunningly, the manager said they would look into in that charge. They weren’t able to do works immediately and had me leave the vehicle overnight stating that he it would be done by 11 am the next day. At 11 am he said they had been working on it but they came about problems because it is an old car (2001 Ford Focus). They said they would call me when it's done. I would not recommend them as a result because my sleep was cut short with worries that instead of fixing they will break my car. This all stemming from me just preparing for the winter by buying tires for my vehicle.

This time he tells me I need a resonator and muffler to be fixed. I ask him why they both need to get fixed. He said the resonator has a crack in it and the muffler is where it rusted out. I say, "Can't we just weld or clamp the muffler on to the old pipe assembly? Do I really need a whole new muffler just because of a little rust that is not on the muffler, but the pipe before it?" He said he will check.

He calls me back and said, "You're right. We don't need a muffler, we can weld it on." I said, "Let's proceed with the resonator then." He told me, "You would not be able to get a resonator for a whole week!!!" I said, "Definitely not, I need my car as soon as possible. I called AutoZone, they overnighted the part to me for cheaper than you were going to sell it to me. Saturday morning, I bring the resonator into your Pep Boys. They tell me it will get done by the end of the night."

Sunday I call back because no one told me the status of my car, and surprise, it is not done. I am told that I also need a muffler, they can't weld it on. But no one called to tell me this? They say they can get me a muffler in two days. So I agree. I spoke to Danny that day and he quoted the muffler at $99.99. Two days pass. No one calls so I call and ask for status. Now the muffler won't get there until Wednesday. On Wednesday night the car is completed. Besides never getting any updates on my vehicle and not getting it for a whole week anyway, this next part is the most frustrating.

I was quoted around $300. Muffler is $99.99, labor is approx $100 and welding is approx $100. I get in the store to pick up my car and they tell me it will be $650. How... I asked them how they got this number. Someone tried upcharging me $100 on a muffler. They also tried making me pay for a resonator, even though it was a customer supplied item. A bunch of other random things were added on that I had not told them I wanted or were not needed. They gave it to me for $350 after I told them all this. But I just could not believe the ridiculous way they were trying to take advantage and upcharge the entire time I was in contact with them.

THEN. To top it off - I look under my car myself the next day to make sure everything is okay and I notice they did not even put the resonator on. So where is the resonator I bought and gave to them??? I call and I am told the mechanic thought I just wanted to get by, so he didn't install it. What??? Then why did I bring you the part? That makes absolutely no sense. Looking at the resonator under my car, I am not convinced it even needed to be replaced!!! Now I have to drive back to Pep Boys and get my resonator assembly that they didn't give back to me or tell me they didn't install. Unbelievable. They would have just pocketed my brand new part.

I hope someone can rectify this situation. I used to really enjoy this Pep Boys, but this was probably my worst experience with an auto shop. Overall, Brian was very nice and I think the issue was when Danny and Sherry stepped in halfway through. They didn't know what was going on and it caused a ridiculous amount of confusion for them and me.

10 minutes before 8 p.m. closing time I drove my vehicle up to Pep Boys brightly lighted garage with an unexpected flat tire. I was totally in distress. I actually have an account with Tires Plus and went to the location on Dunn Avenue first and was turned away by the Manager who made it very clear that they were closed and he could not help me and advised me to take my car which had a visible flat tire up to Pep Boys who was still open. I had never patronized Pep Boys before, but I was desperate for help so I proceeded to the location with a sense of urgency.

My God I was greeted with such a warm welcome by Service Manager Devron ** and Jacob (the Friendly Mechanic). Even though I was arriving right before closing time they were so friendly, helpful and understanding. Unbeknownst to them they was assisting an U.S. Air Force Veteran who was visiting from Las Vegas, Nevada. My spouse and I was so moved by their generosity, we decided to close our Tires Plus Accounts and from this point on will take all car service needs to Pep Boys from Florida to Nevada. I had an issue with my 2012 Camry parking pedal not locking in, took it to the store on Eastern Ave in Las Vegas. They quoted me over $350 to fix it, said the teeth were stripped. I am a person that rarely uses my parking brake. I park on flat (not inclined surfaces) mainly. I found it odd that the parking brake teeth could be stripped. They quoted me a price on the part. I ordered it myself for exactly 1/2 the price from a Toyota dealership. Had a friend go to replace it for me and found a plastic nut had come loose and fallen down in there causing the brake to not be able to grab. Took literally 5 minutes! Teeth were not stripped, absolutely nothing wrong, other than replacing the plastic nut.

This is what happened. On Sep 13 2018 I took my car (2007 Chrysler 300) to Pep Boys in Perrine to put a new fan because mine died. The fan was installed after about 2 hrs. On October 1st I went to Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) and in Dolphin Expressway (Rt 836) the car started burning oil and the smoke was all over. I had to stop and at this point I called the towing service to get to the JMH because my wife and I needed the medications. In the hospital after getting the medication I call another towing service to my house (from JMH to Homestead.)

At the next day I started checking what the problem was. It was the transmission fluid coming to/from the radiator “I think’. In any case the important is this. When Pep Boys installed the new fan, first it was not fixed properly s because the fan was moving easily, but also the hose were the fluid was coming out was damaged, why? Because when they put everything back they forgot to keep these hoses static and not loose in an area packed with everything including one of the pulleys in which this hose started rubbing and rubbing until the hose start leaking this transmission fluid.

I tried stopping the leak but then the transmission stop working and now Pep Boys has a mess to fix. I know that they are going to try to get away with a lot of smart excuses, but this time I am going to dedicate my retirement time in order that they make this right. I use to take my car in NJ to Pep Boys where I use to live, and after when I moved to Miami-Dade county was happy to see that I had another Pep Boys. I was not aware of the huge amount of complaints in record, and now I understand why? It’s a pity I found out too late. A towing service took my car to the shop where I went today but the new manager Adonis was not there so they said to me to come tomorrow Thursday when he is in. I’ll keep you posted.

I tried these guys out for the first time and my experience will not allow me to EVER go there again. They attempted to turn a minor job into a major Labor cost. As a retired Engineer, I was totally aware of their attempt. They actually claimed to not know what the problem with my vehicle was and that it would cost me as much as $700.00 that they could analyze the vehicle to find out. After going into the service area to question the "mechanic" that worked on my vehicle, my theory of what was really happening came clearer. A simple leak in a hose as they claimed they had to do a $500.00 to $700.00 diagnostic was ridiculous. As I am an impatient writer, I hope I made my point clear to this reader. Bottom Line is I plan to NEVER visit these stores again as this was a waste of almost $50.00 as I left there no better than I came. Bullard in New Orleans East.

Updated on 09/28/2018: I brought the vehicle back to the initial repair guy and had him to examine the area that the mechanic at Pep Boys mentioned. Note that the Pep Boys counter attendant had no idea that I had spoken to the mechanic that gave accurate information after she gave me the INFLATED COST. As I mentioned earlier, when they noted that I had been told two stories between each of them they became rude and insulting. As it turns out the initial mechanic had left out a small o ring and the problem was simply solved. Why could Pep Boys not do the same as they claim to be mechanics and just charge a fee? Why did they choose to inflate a small job into a costly repair? I watched the same attendant (lady) doctor my receipt in an attempt to make it appear credible. This behavior, in my opinion is, PREDATORY, DISHONEST AND DISRESPECTFUL AND IS UNWELCOME IN THIS COMMUNITY.

I went by to do routine maintenance for my Lyft car. Lyft just said, "Your car is fine. You are ready to go." I happened to ask, "Do I not need an oil change since I have done the 28 days renewal?" Then Lyft said, "Oh yes right. Please go down the road to Pep Boys. They will square you." I went to Pep Boys and had the ugliest customer service experience. I am so disappointed. The manager named ** at store 1741 was the one who helped me but from the point I greeted him politely and told him I was new, and did not know how things worked and that I was pressed for time but was willing to possibly come back. He was so rude, he cut me off when I greeted him. I have never felt so undermined and treated so badly. He did not say hello, he started with complaining about how they had so many customers. I said, "Okay sir. Would it be better if I came later?" He barked, "I have so many customers. I am busy."

I returned the following day and he shouted at me and said, "The way it works is you call." I said I was sorry and not aware of how they do things and reminded him that I was new. He said, "I have to work. I am busy, it’s customers like you who just show up that make me have more unnecessary work to do." I stood there thinking, "Sir you are the manager and it’s your job. You have no business shouting at a customer. And I don’t know that I needed to call. Lyft just told me to come by." He then said, "I am busy." I asked if he wanted me to come back and that I was willing to wait. And he said, "Keys. I need the keys, keys, keys," and rolled his eyes and took my keys without saying anything or answering what I had asked.

Honestly I felt like I was treated like garbage, and fact that I did state I was new did not know how process worked should have communicated to him that he needed to be patient and make sure I understand. I have never had a more uglier customer service experience. I definitely will be letting everyone I know not to get their car maintained by this Pep Location at 3217 Harwood Rd Bedford T76021. I don’t think I will return to this location again. What a horrible manager and terrible experience. The sad thing is that when you have an issue like this it’s that manager who should be available to help and not yell at you and make you feel like you have done something wrong for coming to get maintenance work done.

I stay here for more than 3 hours, ended up calling into work because a simple oil change took more than 3 hours to do. I watched the way the manager of store # 1741 ** was treating other customers, he treated them just as badly. He needs to do Pep Boys a favor a quit his job. He is the worst manager I have ever met. Very very disappointing.

Updated on 09/25/2018: After collecting my car something else happened. I took a Lyft car into Pep Boys for maintenance. They were supposed to just do an oil change. For some reason they changed two of my tires without telling me and without saying why there was a need to change any tires. The tires were brand new. I had only been driving the car for 28 days. It took 3 hours, I got back on the road and as soon as I got on the highway, the car which is supposed to be a brand new car straight off the lot was shaking. I tried to drive. It only got worse by the time I was almost 40 mins away. Then the tire problem light came on.

I was supposed to be at work 3 hours ago, but all this affected my work schedule. I went back to Lyft and they said it would take another hour to fix. They asked me to walk over to the Pep Boys. I refused and told them about how badly I had been treated in the morning. They suggested I go to the other Pep Boys. I did and they were very defensive about the tire change issue. I told them I have never had a problem with a tire change, I have even had my tires changed by Discount Tires, Firestone and even in the low-end places in Harry Hines area where Mexican Tire shops put used ones and I had no alignment issues EVER after a tire change.

I honestly think they did a shoddy job and instead of apologizing and taking responsibility for their mistake they were being defensive. A sure sign of their incredibly poor service. I am so disappointed with Pep Boys. This is the worst auto company experience I have had so far. I had to cancel all my scheduled appointments and cancel work for the entire day and nobody even tried to apologize for the inconvenience they caused. To make matters worse, Lyft wanted me to walk over and resolve issue by myself.

This is second time in my life I ever write the type of review you about to read... This time I just could not wait to share my opinion about the Pep Boys service center in Woodland Hills. I brought my 1999 Corolla there at 9AM to replace the thermostat. Only to find out around 2PM (because I called them) that they can't do it because one of the bolts is stripped. They told me they tried to get ahold of me but I was not answering... because they called my son's phone number instead. Anyway they told me they did not touch anything else because of the bolt (mechanic was present when I was picking up the car "with hand on the Bible". He said nothing else was touched).

I went to Autozone in Canoga Park to buy some tools to do the job myself. On the way back my car overheated with steam coming out from under the hood. Long story short they did touch other things and broke the radiator right on the top. On my way home after adding water I was passing by Pep Boys again and stopped there to discuss this... They said it was fragile and they did break it, but said it is not their fault. And I agreed again that maybe it was fragile. BUT they knowingly have let me drive off their lot with the car they broke which was not driveable. Manager of this shop Richard ** was very rude and he clearly did not appreciate me making those problems. Well I don't like him as well... He refused to help with anything at all even with adding more water to the radiator so I can get home. Instead he told me if I think I can get a new radiator from this it is not happening.

Next day I purchased a new radiator and thermostat from Autozone and replaced both parts myself within 2 hours. Total parts cost was $135. (New radiator and thermostat.) Pep Boys wanted to charge me $160 at discounted rate for the radiator (part only) as an "I am sorry deal". Which I definitely refused. My problem is the big cover-up and "we can't do anything wrong" attitude at this location. When I mentioned to them that 4 years ago same location was doing tire rotation on my son's Acura and 1 day later they towed his car from 101 Freeway because on the way to college, his front wheels almost came off due to them not tightening the wheel nuts (this could have be a tragedy). Yes they fixed everything back then.

Anyway when I brought it up, this time they told me they have completely new team including managers so nothing like this can happen and this is completely different shop nooo... HAHAHA. I never had issues with Pep Boys as a parts store but they are definitely not suppose to be a repair shop. With incident they lost me not only as a customer for the auto repairs but also as the customer for their parts. It was a bit long but I hope informative enough for you to know what you are signing for when deciding to take your car for service there. BUT yes they are conveniently located...

I even asked if this may be the reason the car was slowly accelerating and eventually killed the battery and the guy said this was possible. I was naturally happy to pay the $150 plus the $140 battery price to fix what I thought was the problem as confirmed by the incompetent mechanics at Pep Boys. Plus, the guy told me I will get a fifty percent discount which will take down my bill to $169?! If I became a member.

I said it was fixed by Pep Boys in West Sunrise near Sawgrass Mills for $835.00. They said that they cut and bypass something on my car that could kill me. I call corporate. Then they have me tow the car to Pep Boys in Sunrise near Sawgrass Mills in Fl. Then they told me nothing wrong with the car. Now on 08/14/2018 my car is in front of the Pep Boys parking lot located at 2100 North University Drive, Coral Springs, Fl. They told me mechanics from Pep Boys mess up my car. They can't fix it after they have me pay $630.00 from this location. (2100 N University Drive.)

On July 7th, 2018 I dropped my car off at Pep Boys (Druid Hills Location) for them to run a test on my car to figure out what was wrong with my air conditioning. They called me back July 8th, and told me I needed a new compressor (they said it would be about $200), a power steering flush, a radiator flush, and a brake flush. They said all together, it was going to be $1,300. I asked them if there was any way they could go down on the price because I said that seemed high, and Marcus said they would be happy to give me a 20% discount. They said they had the parts they needed in the shop, and that my car would be ready tomorrow (July 10th).

I called the next day, and they said the compressor was not in yet, and were waiting on it to be delivered, and that should have my car ready by the end of the day. I called at the end of the day, my car was not yet ready. I called the next day, and the next day, for six more days, and they continued to tell me the same thing. They finally called me on 7-13-18 and let me know my car was ready. I went to get my car, and the manager (Raul **) said it was going to be $1,900. I was floored by the price, and told him this was not the price I was quoted. I told him that Marcus ** had quoted me, with the 20% off, at $1,090. He said he could not get it down that low, but if I wanted to pull up a 20% coupon ONLINE, that he could use that on the entire bill.

I felt played and lied to by Marcus that the coupon I was getting was an online deal that any customer can google and find. I thought that because I was bringing almost $2,000 worth of business to Pep Boys, that they were going to give me a discount because I am a student and do not make very much money. The price I ended up paying, after not wanting to deal with dishonest Pep Boys employees anymore, was $1,441.71. When, I had initially been quoted $1,300. Marcus also told me that there would be no tax - which did not sound right, but when I went to pay, there was tax added to the bill. Overall, the communication and lies were difficult to deal with, and made me very upset that I had chosen Pep Boys to fix my air.

On the way home from Pep Boys, my air worked for about 15 minutes, and it quit again. I had to travel out of town and drive four hours to Tennessee the very next day, and had no time, money, or energy, to take my car back to Pep Boys. I called them and told them that my air was not working, AGAIN, and that I paid almost $1500, and my air still did not work. He said I could bring it back in and they would take a look at it for me. I took my car back in into Pep Boys on August 8th after returning from being out of town, and Raul went outside to look at my car, and he walked back in and said I needed a new compressor. My jaw dropped and I was floored. I had just left my car at Pep Boys for a week a few weeks before, and spent $1,441 on a new compressor and labor of putting in that new compressor, and now they are telling me the exact same thing is wrong with my car.

I voiced this and how confused I was that the new compressor they supposedly put into my car already did not work, and Raul said they do not get new parts sent to them, and that sometimes the parts they get are faulty. I was floored by this comment as well. Why am I paying almost $500 for a part that is NOT NEW and does not work when it is installed into my car? I left my car there that night, and he said it would be ready the next day.

I called an Uber to pick me up from Pep Boys, and spent $18 on a ride home because the air in my car was still not working. As the Uber driver pulled out of Pep Boys, I called them immediately and asked whoever answered the phone to please roll up my SUNROOF window, because it looked like it was going to storm. I had been riding with my windows and sunroof down because it was 90 + degrees in Atlanta during the summer and I have black leather interior. In order not to have a heat stroke, I was riding with all my windows down. Had Pep Boys fixed my air correctly the first time, I would not had to have driven everywhere with all my windows down. The employee who answered the phone said that was no problem and that he would roll my sunroof up.

I called the next day, and Raul said it was not ready, and that they were waiting for my new compressor to come in from Arizona. This was confusing to me, because he had once again said they had the part in the store, and that it would be ready the next day. Three more days go by, and they continue to tell me that my car is not ready.

On Saturday, the 11th, I called that morning and Lia said my car was ready. I had my ride drive me to Pep Boys, I walked inside, and she handed me my keys and told me I didn't have to sign anything and that I was good to go. I was confused why all my windows were down, but I figured they had cleaned the inside of my car or something and they were letting it air out.

As soon I opened my door, a strong musty smell covered up by a sickening air freshener smell hit me in the face, and I noticed that my two front seats were grayed, cracked, and ruined from water from a huge rain and thunderstorm that had hit Atlanta over the past couple days (August 8th-11th). The entire front half of my car on the inside was wet, musty, damp, and books that I had in my front seat were damaged from water. I was immediately upset, and realize that the man on the phone the few days before did not roll up my sunroof window like he said he was going to do. The interior of my car is ruined. I walked back inside and told Lia what was going on, and a mechanic who was sitting up front in the waiting room, started yelling and cussing at me, and told me that my car was a “piece of ** and that my “sunroof must be leaking”. My sunroof is COMPLETELY intact, and I have NEVER ONCE had any sort of leak in my car.

I told them I would be contacting corporate and that I was extremely upset by the service that I have received at this Pep Boys. As I was driving home, my car was extremely bouncy, and every tiny bump I hit, my car seemed to bounce up and down in an extremely unsafe way. It is also clear that the suspension on my car has been messed with. My car drove perfectly smooth on the way to Pep Boys on the 8th. Unless they intentionally messed with my suspension, or drove my car off of the lot and hit a bunch of potholes in a reckless manner, my car should still drive smooth when I pick my car up. My car was perfectly fine other than the air not working when I brought it into Pep Boys. Now my air is working, $1,500 later, but the interior of my car is completely ruined, which will cost thousands of dollars to have fixed, and my suspension in my car is completely off, which costs about $1,500 to have fixed.

I am LIVID and so so sad that this is the way I was treated by these employees and this company. I am filing a claim with my insurance that Pep Boys has ruined the inside of my car and made my car unsafe to drive. I will make sure I am paid what I need to be paid to have all of this fixed in my car, and Pep Boys is going to pay, because Pep Boys was careless with this customer, and took advantage of my wallet and my patience.

Finally they find the problem, I ask how long to fix it, Harry said an hour, I was there 7 hours waiting and then they lost my keys. Finally they find my keys and the only word that came out of the manager was, "It wasn't my fault." No sorry, no compassion, Really bad customer service, my car still has the same problem.

I took it to the nearest location to have them fix it properly which took two days. Got the vehicle home only to find they left the engine cover off as well as the oil cap. Complete incompetence... service is garbage, techs are garbage, stores I went are garbage. Do not take your vehicle there if you care about it at all. Run... run fast, run hard and never look back. Monday night just before closing, I'm told on the phone that they couldn't find the leak off. Told them again which fluid was leaking, and from where. They promised it would be the first car worked on Tuesday morning. Repeat this same process Tuesday night. Wednesday at 2 pm I went there, to be told that they would pull my car in next. Sunday night. 07 Nissan Titan was leaking fluid near back tire. Pulled over at hotel as I was traveling thru town- arrived Monday at Pep Boys in Irondale, AL (ONLY REPAIR SHOP). Was told need new rear wheel bearing so agreed to do work and told them was traveling. After several hours mechanic opened up rear end and drained fluid, at this point he told us we probably needed a new rear end. He said he would change the bearing and "hope it would get us home." After test driving the vehicle he heard a noise still and "changed the brake pads at no cost to us."

After test drive he still heard the noise but again said it should make it home to get repairs (AFTER WE JUST PAID $456.00). 30 minutes away the vehicle broke down again and we had to have the truck towed from Hattiesburg, MS to Madisonville, LA. Apparently the seal on bearing was not put on correctly and now the rear end has burnt up because all the fluid leaked out. I will be seeking legal counsel!

I am in the middle of an awful experience with Pep Boys. I went to Pep Boys to get my brakes checked. Yes, I knew I needed the rear brakes done. They diagnosed the problem and came back with both front and back brakes. The front brakes could wait a couple of months, but the back were metal to metal. The vehicle was there at the service center for 5 hours. They broke the parking cable and was honest about it! Said I needed to come back to repair the parking cable. Before I could drive the vehicle home, the battery was dead. They played dumb about the situation and charged the vehicle. Apparently the tech left the key in the on position and ran the battery down after 5 hours. They did a quick charge only to get the vehicle out of the servicing garage. Once out, they could care less if the vehicle started or not.

I made an appointment to be the brake cable done at 12 noon the next day, but they were hesitant in making the appointment. I wanted to come in earlier but they said they needed to get the part from the dealer and the service person does not come in until 11. So now, I am inconveniencing their time for them breaking my parking cable. I showed up earlier the next day than my appointment time. The back breaks was making a thumping sound. They said they would check into the problem. I had not here back from them after 3 hours, so I stopped by to check the status. They said they got the wrong part and it would take a couple of hours. The part was on the way! I received a call 3 hours later and said the vehicle was ready. I went to pick up the vehicle and drove off.

After about 30 minutes of driving, the thumping sound came back. I called and returned to the store only to leave for another 3 hours. Apparently, the shoes were not fitted properly. I received a called and said the vehicle was ready. I test drove the vehicle with the assistant manager and there was no thumping noise at the time. There was squeaking, but he assured me that this would go away after a few days since the brakes were new!

I drove around for a while on my own and the thumping noise came back. The store was closed so I waited to call them back the next day. I called and complained about the thumping noise and they said to bring in. It was Fathers Day and I had plans. I did complain and said that it does not take almost 24 hours to fix back brakes. I am not happy about the services and do not have peace of mind they are even done right or have a qualified person to work on brakes. I was told that if I should get them done somewhere else, bring back the parts and they will credit me 100%.

I chose to get them done elsewhere and did show back up with their parts. They refused to credit my account because they needed a copy of the receipt from the other place. (He could not explain the reason.) I said you did not tell me this and all I needed to do was bring back Pep Boys parts! I did not have the receipt on me at the time and could not return the same day as I was leaving on a trip.

Today is the day, I will show up with the parts and receipt. I hope I don't get anymore attitude from the workers at Pep Boys. They are happy to take your money, do a poor job in their service and then make you feel as you're the problem. Managers and assistant managers were never around to address the issue until I complained to corporate as I was sitting waiting for my vehicle to get serviced on the 3 try. I will never return to Pep Boys and will never recommend to anyone. I believe they are scammers and tried to get away with not putting in new parts that were paid for.

Came in for an advertised oil change Mobil 1 synthetic @ $59. Curious I asked what kind of oil filter they use. I learned it is the cheapest filter they sell - NOT the proper Mobil 1 filter. Not happy about that I purchased a Mobile 1 filter in the store. While in the store I see Mobil 1 on sale. If I buy the oil and filter in the store ($43.00) I pay them for labor $22 and get a superior (proper Mobil 1) oil filter. Back at the service department I tell the service writer Mobil 1 is on sale... He says, "We got the same oil right here." The service writer, writes it up gives me the estimate to sign and I notice he is charging me regular price for the oil (even though it is on sale), a labor charge plus I just paid $15 for a filter. Total $85. When I called it to his attention - he never looked at me. He just walked away - too busy and not interested in hearing that I just busted his little con.

People you need to keep your eyes on these slick Pep Boys con men. If I insist on buying the oil and filter inside the store, carry it out to service and insist they use what I just bought the total cost is $65 including their labor charge of $22. Instead of creating a pleasant customer experience with the potential to do the brakes (the vehicle has 60,000 miles), and other necessary services, these ankle biters would rather beat you for $20 and lose any future business. Pep Boys needs to rethink their commission and bonus structure to include long-term profit from repeat business - NOT hit and run.

June 12, 2018 Approx 10PM - Clutch goes out. June 13, 2018 - At 8:00AM I made a few in-town calls to get prices for replacing the clutch with taxes included and service advisor Kendall ** from Pep Boys store #191 for North Little Rock, AR told me around $800 with tax included. He replied that they will want to ensure that's what the problem is and I informed him that I'm mechanically inclined and quite sure that's what the problem will be.

He stated that he will "comp" the inspection fee (note that he never told me there was an inspection fee). (This is when I made the decision to bring my car there due to the price was the lowest and only shop capable of getting me home in time on the 17th.) I also informed him that I was from out of town and I needed my car before June 17th. He replied that wouldn't be a problem. I have the car towed there before 11:00AM and meet with Kendall face to face handing him my keys to the vehicle that's in need of repair at his shop to get it done. He assures me this won't be a problem again and they will order the clutch right now so it will be in on the 14th.

June 14, 2018 - I call at 10:00AM in order to get a status update on my car and was told by a different individual that Kendall will have to talk to me about it when he comes in at noon and to call back. I ask if they've gotten the clutch in they ordered. I'm told they didn't order anything and haven't even looked at my vehicle yet. But they will try and start on it today. (At this point I've never gotten any calls about any prices for a clutch or that they've started work on my car.) I call again at 12:00AM and ask for Kendall ** again. Once more, I'm told that he isn't here yet but should be arriving in 15 - 20 minutes. So I thank him and call back at 1:00PM.

This time Deandre ** answers and says that they're working on my car now. He also mentions that they have to send my flywheel out to be resurfaced (No mention of any extra charges on my part). I thanked him and asked how long it would be and was told that it should be all ready by Saturday. I ask if I can get a price on my vehicle yet and am told that It cannot be given yet. June 15, 2018 - I let him work on the vehicle and never received a call figuring they were working swiftly.

June 16, 2018 - I call to check on my vehicle and speak to Norman again and get told that Kendall won't be in until noon again. I ask for a status report anyway and he asks whether or not I've gotten a call from anyone. I tell him nobody has called or left a voicemail. I hear him ask around if anyone tried calling or leaving a voicemail but nobody answers. He proceeds to ask me if I've ever had work done on my car before and if I bought it new or used. I tell him I bought it used and no work has been done. He tells me that they had gotten the wrong clutch yesterday in and spend all day looking around town for the proper one because the clutch that was in the car was made for a transmission from a motor with a turbo. I reply that the ONLY 2007 Mazda 3s that came with a turbo were the 2.3L motors and mine was a 2.0.

He states he had to search all over town to get this "special clutch" and that halted work on my car for awhile. He informs me the battery is dead and that it came with the car. I replied to him I knew the battery had some corrosion prior and that I've cleaned it up multiple times but I've never once has a single No-start problem with my car. After asking what the price of a battery is just in case I get an estimate about $120 when asking for the cheapest. I say no thank you since I know where I can get one brand new in town for less than $100. I ask if it's possible to get a price on my vehicle yet so I can get some money together. I'm told $1,216.19. I just sink into the phone completely stunned by this and tell him I will call him back.

I catch a ride to the Pep Boys to speak with them directly and ask for a printout on this so I can see why I was quoted $800 and the price jumped up to over $1,200 with NO information ever at my price going up for any additional costs being completely out of the loop and uninformed. Norman prints a work order showing that Steering evaluation was $20 extra as he underlines it. $20.97 for 3 qts of gear oil as he underlines it (I can understand this charge). I see the "complimentary vehicle inspection" charge showing $0 (not sure why that's there if I still got charged for the evaluation. Under the Steering evaluation it says "customer says feels like clutch is going out" which is also a lie. I told him verbatim "My clutch IS out and NEEDS to be replaced". The next charge Norman underlines it "resurface" for $94 as he explains that's for the flywheel.

Continuing on he circles "new clutch" stating that's because it was a SPECIAL clutch for transmissions for turbo cars and circles the $280.37 price which shocks me because I looked up local clutches myself and found them to be $180 minimum and a performance clutch to be at $280. Once again a price I wasn't informed on before they installed this part. If I had a choice I'd have brought them the correct clutch myself ESPECIALLY if they told me they got the wrong one to begin with. Under that item on my work order I see a "shop fee" of $35 which he doesn't mention anything about. I'm in shock about the audacity of the way they handled this so much I tell him I need a few minutes to sit on this and he says okay.

So in the space of these 4 days they've had my vehicle: I was mislead about the $800 cost (including tax) it was cost me to get my car fixed. I was never asked to approve any prices for anything as they continued work. Lied to about needing a special clutch because the K70397-01 Sachs clutch is the one that BELONGS inside of my 07' Mazda 3 2.0L transmission. Meaning someone got the wrong part on fault of their own. Never informed they had trouble with my battery (which I'm sure they left my key on in the ignition because I drove back over 7 hours to get home and turned my car off and on with NO issues whatsoever and didn't change my battery). This type of behavior towards customers is completely unacceptable and SHOULDN'T be tolerated. By the time I knew the price would be over $1,200 it was too late and I had to give them the money or lose my car to them.

I work as a civil service employee for the state of Louisiana at a Hospital. As an engineer who is on call every other week for 24 hours a day a vehicle is necessary and when it breaks down out of town you have no choice but to put it into an affordable shop. You're supposed to trust and pray you can get back into work in time. At least I can give them credit for having my back on the road at almost 2PM on the 16th of June which put me back at home at 10pm and one day off before going back to work. This was unacceptable.

I am horrible with names, but I am talking about the whole stuff. Prices are very good, how do I know? I went to Meineke and guess what they charge DOUBLE compare to Pep Boys. Not ONLY that Pep Boys guaranty and stay behind their Guaranty no questions asked.

At least they do not blaming on you, that you did something to the car. If they change anything with Guaranty they do not charge you for labor UNLIKE Meineke or most of the shops that charge you for coming thru their door... I came in with an Air Conditioner recharge and my compressor was broken (I did not know that), Manager Assistant (again my apologies I am bad with names) manager showed me what exactly was broken and did not charged me for a recharge, not to mention the fact that Pep Boys is almost half price from most of the shops ($70 to recharge 2005 Honda 6 Cylinder car). I love the fact that they are not pushing anything on you and talk to you as a Human being starting from the Manager to a front desk personnel. Everyone very polite and they listen without interrupting you or cutting you off...

After my air compressor got fixed, my alternator melted and I know exactly why and who have done that, but unfortunately, I can not prove that (Meineke down the road), but Pep Boys staff was very understanding and solved the problem like I am a part of their family... I am humbled and touched by my experience. I hope that this review will help to give this shop a chance to prove that they are the BEST AROUND HERE (Thornton). You will not be disappointed. They looked at the vehicle and determined that it was a rear engine oil leak and quoted me $1,200+ to repair. I was advised it would take around 3 days. On 6/2/2018, I talked to Pep Boys (Southaven) and was advised the best time to bring it in would be Tuesday. On Tuesday, 6/5/2018, we dropped the car off and was advised they did not have the manpower to make the repairs, they would ship the car over to their Park Avenue (Memphis) location and we may have to pick the car up from there. I consented. On today, 6/9/2018 I called the store on Park Avenue to check on the status of the repair and I was advised the car was ready for pick up. I arrived, paid the $1,200+ for the repair.

We got less than a mile away and realized the car was pinging and would not accelerate above 40 MPH. We also noticed a 'burning' smell from the vehicle. Prior to this "repair" my son drove the car every day to work and to church. After talking to the technician, I was told the left side of the catalytic converter was clogged and it "will be Monday before he can give me a price". He agreed that it was about "timing" but my argument and complaint is simple: If this was a pre-existing situation, obviously we would have had difficulty driving the car PRIOR to the "repair" and would not have paid $1,200 not addressing the problem.

If the car was drivable, but leaked oil...and I pick it up from Pep Boys and now it is not even DRIVABLE with a "new" condition, it should be the responsibility of Pep Boys 100% to fix my car! They claimed to have not test driven the car. You fix a car and don't test drive it? Had this happened two weeks later, I get it...but NOT as soon as we pick up the car after THEY have had it for a week.

Store 1518 at 10306 E Colonial Dr Orlando Fl. I went to my local Pep Boys rather than the Ford dealership because Pep Boys was much closer. The power steering fluid was leaking and I didn't want to go any further than needed. The high pressure switch was leaking and I was quoted $230 for the repair. When I picked the car up I had a $25 coupon from my Ford dealer which they said they would honor, and the price increased to $257.07... go figure. While they had the car on the lift I had asked for an estimate for the rear brakes. Was quoted $749. They said it needed pads, rotors, calipers and a fluid flush. I told them that the fluid had already been done 6k miles earlier. They said it was contaminated. I took the car to the Ford dealership the next day and had the brakes done for $351. There was nothing wrong with either the brake fluid or the calipers. I was a returning customer at Pep Boys, but never again... TOTAL RIP OFF.

Brought my car in to have a service diagnostics done and an oil change. Told them my car was making a noise when turning and when you pressed on the gas it was making a noise. Left my car there and 45 mins later I get a call saying my power steering went, my hose was leaking, my rack was cracked and spark plugs were gone and recommended a tune-up since I'm almost at 118k miles. Ok fine, they give me a quote of 2900.00 and change. I told them that the spark plugs were just done. They told me that they could take off 400.00. I freaked out because I can't afford a new car, I agreed to have it done without thinking since they have serviced my car in the past. I had to go there and retrieve some things out of my car and on my way my husband called and I told him what was going on.

My husband and father in law flipped and said to take it to another mechanic because it didn't sound right. I get there and tell them my husband wants a second opinion, the guy Larry was very nice about it and said he understood and whatever quote I got, he will take 10% off that price. I'm like okay that nice. I take it to this other mechanic and tell them my issue. Well my car stayed with this other mechanic over the weekend (and thank God it did ) and they just called and told me my car was FINE and it just needs steering wheel fluid and a couple of other fluids... Oh and a new windshield wiper... Are you kidding me, I almost paid all that money for nothing that was wrong. Yes when it comes to mechanics I am a little naive. But that was seriously not okay at all. I will never go back, not even for an oil change ever again.

When you try to get precise answers to your question he acts as if you are annoying him. When it was past time for the work to be done I called to see if they were done, 9 hours later I was told that they would call me and let me know.

So my husband and I decided to go to the shop and wait, well they never called. It was 5:15 and they close at 6, and not a phone call. Nothing, they then started to let the bay doors down to close so we went in to the store to find out what was going on with our car, and the Manager said, "Oh it's not ready..." My response was, "You guys wasn't even going to call to say anything." By this time we were pissed. He gave a lot of unacceptable reason why it wasn't going to be ready at the last min. of course. So we stated to him that we need our car today so he said, "You can wait if you like." Oh and we did. I have taken cars to this location many times but this time was the worst.

There is not any form of courtesy when it comes to common sense. He was upset I believe because he had another young lady to check us out (Amy). She was very nice and apologetic but as I told her it was not her fault. It was the Manager's fault for not calling to let us know how the process was going. I feel that he is a very rude dry s.o.b who seems as if he hates what he does and if there is anyone that shouldn't be working with the public it is him. He is nasty to customers and not helpful nor does he take into consideration anything. Yes we did get our car and it is running great thus far, but he needs to take training in customer service ethics or find another profession like maybe working with animals in the wilderness.

This time, we decided to compare the parts costs as they seemed really high. We not only found the parts much cheaper directly from GM (OEM parts) but even cheaper on the Pep Boys own parts sales website! They were trying to justify the 40% mark up on their own price by saying that the parts and labor are warrantied, like it's some great gift they are giving us! We are paying for future repairs we shouldn't even need if they do their job right! Looking back over the past receipts, we see a disturbing pattern where they jack up the prices and then give "discounts" in the guise of "helping their customers". This is a classic shill and drop technique usually reserved for used car sales and other unscrupulous sales scenarios. Go anywhere else!

They used too much force taking it off. Plain and simple. I collected the broken pieces from the hose and top of engine area.

The manager ** claims that it must have had a crack in it already or that it was already busted into pieces. BS, no way. Two certified mechanics that I have used for years worked on my car doing a major tuneup and lower suspension work the day before. Everything was fine with the radiator - I never had any leaks or overheating problems ever. My car always has ice cold air in summer and fast heat in winter. I want Pep Boys to do the right thing - replace and install a new radiator and flush the system. The manager only offered to buy a new radiator but I would have to pay to have it installed. Seriously??? I hope we can work this out. If not, I will file in reconciliation (small claims) court.

This place needs to be investigated. In my life, I have not seen a business so deceiving and dishonest. This place will go to great lengths to make you think that your vehicle needs repairs. It sounds kinda crazy, but, like the other reviews on here, I do not know how they get any business. The game they play is simple. Come in for a "free" estimate, and we will diagnose your car with multiple problems, and you can die on the way home. Seriously, they had all of their employees acting in a way in hopes to convince the customers to think their vehicle is not safe.

The "free estimate" is not free at all. It is a free opportunity for them to come back and tell you that your vehicle won't make it home or needs repaired immediately. They will not come tell you that your vehicle is good, come back and see us in a few months. Last time they tried to hustle me, I had asked them to look at my caliper because I heard a clunk noise when I tried to stop. It wasn't anything crazy and the car would stop, it just made a funny noise. They came back to say I need 800 dollars worth of brake repairs and a repaired or new rear differential. That was over 6 months ago. After the free inspection, my car is running great, and the brakes are great too. They were so rude after I told them I was not going to get any work done on my car. It was night and day in regards to their attitude.

The staff at Pep Boys in Reno is not very intelligent. They do not understand that smart people will see the BS not come back. They tried to lie to me about my warranty and that would have cost me over 2 grand. It is like their whole shtick is to see if they can convince you that you need car repairs, and take you to the cleaners. Maybe they will change their name again and try to hit the reset button, but don't take your vehicle to Pep Boys in Reno, they are horrible.

At the original point of sale I told them I didn't want the tires to put my old ones back on and I would go somewhere else but they told me they couldn't do that what I thought was supposed to be no more than $350 is turned out at first to be more than 500. I told them all I had was 450 so they discount of the price to 446 and I left very dissatisfied only because I had my daughter with me and had somewhere to be. Two months went by I had a problem with one of the tires.

I originally purchased the hazard roadside warranty which they told me I didn't have to worry about anything if anything happened to my tire that they would replace it. Turns out I took my tire in which needed a simple plug that they said they couldn't fix and charge me another $20 after I got upset, then I drove away, after getting both receipts I found several discrepancies in their itemized detailed receipts. Since then I found out that they gave me a different tire from which they sold me and I'm in the process of trying to still sort all this out

After getting $126 back I'm still not satisfied. I want all of my money back. At least do not go to Pep Boys. I would not recommend it. They upsell and overcharged on top of all this they tried to sell me an alignment and which I did not need and also scratched my rim on the tire that I had to replace that should have been under warranty. I really hope something gets resolved. I wonder how many other people have gone through the same similar situation. I can't imagine that I'm the only one. I'm sure they owe a lot of people a lot of money. I'm not going to stop until I get mine back. This is very shady and not very good business. It's not what they advertise. I even asked what is the final price going to be they would not give me a final price. They sold me a tire and which is not what they said it was supposed to be. Now that I have proof that Identifix shows .4 now the store is saying they use their own labor guide. When I asked for a store Mgr I kept being transferred right back to the same guy I busted lying even though I was told the Mgr was in by the lady that answered the phone. When their hourly rate is $140 that time adds up to a lot money out of the customer's pocket that they are essentially stealing. Oh and by the way the hourly rate per online says it's 129 but I was charged 140.

The part they fixed they charged me $51.78 but the price for the part in their store and online is $26.99. Why did they mark it up? It's not like they had to get it elsewhere like a small repair shop has to. They made a profit on the same part on 2 separate occasions once going on the shelf and then when they upped it on the service side. Shop fees are outrageously high also. I will never take another vehicle to Pep Boys nor will I be able to give a good review. It does not cost $330 to R/R a coolant reservoir and there is no way they can honestly justify charging this amount. Received a phone call. “We sold your tires to someone else but we can order them from one of our stores in Maryland for you. We will call you when the tires arrive." Well ok mistakes happen not a problem. In a couple of days my tires should be in. Today marks my two week anniversary of being lied to. I have received no communication at all except a "how was the service you received" email.

Now if I were in the retail and sales business again and had a customer ready to drop over $500 on merchandise that I didn’t have in stock, it would make sense to me to have it in two days three days at the max. Also to call said customer to at least update them if it was to be longer than when I told them it would be. Unfortunately this store doesn’t believe in good customer service for everyone. Now the sad thing is for them is I have two more vehicles that take much larger and more expensive tires then my previous order. Now Walmart will be getting all my business. Because even though they had to order my tires as well they received them in two days and called me the minute they arrived.

My suggestion to Pep Boys of Greensburg. Next time you get a customer's tires shipped from one of your other stores in Maryland. Maybe use a delivery method that involves a truck. I say this because the only explanation I can think of for these tires being two weeks late is that there are four Pep Boys employees physically rolling these tires up the side of the road as I write this. That or someone thinks good customer service involves using metaphorical nuts and bolts for their customers. Why nuts and bolts you ask. Because not only did I get The screws by this employee so did Pep Boys. Me for not getting tires when I needed them and Pep Boys for losing potentially $1700 of my money for more tires and services this month to Walmart.

Brandon stated that since they misdiagnose my car he saved me $1200 hundred dollars and they are going to fix my car. But, in the meantime, I am asking, "So why do I have to pay for something that was broke and you repaired it". Brandon stated well eventually it would have went out.

I stated, "You're leaving a bad taste in mouth". Brandon came back out saying all junkyards are closed on Saturday and he will have to keep me car, because he has it torn apart. Lord behold, I called every junk in the area, and they stated that they are opened on Saturday and Sundays. I call PEP boys back on Monday stating, "Is my car ready", Brandon stated that he was in the shop by himself, but it's coming along. I called back at 4 pm letting him no that I was getting off from work in 30 minutes and what about my. Brandon stated it's ready. Until this day, I haven't heard from Pep Boys on this matter. Inspection? $575 for a right front motor mount. Sweet baby corn... I can do that in 20 minutes with a $21 part. I guess I need to accompany my daughter EACH AND EVERY time she goes there. They literally see a "sucker" and especially at Christmas time. I don't blame the technicians. They're just trying to make a buck. Shame on you, Pep Boys. Get your ** together. Worst Experience Ever and I have yet to hear back from anyone in Senior Management after 5 days of filing my complaint thru PepSocial@PepBoys.com!

I rarely post any reviews but this has gone beyond what I would consider an acceptable time frame to reach out and do what's right. I was at the Pine Brook NJ Service Center on a Sunday morning to replace 4 tires. I patiently waited an hour before the tech was able to get to my car. The employee that drove the car into the bay, didn't know how to drive my car so I had to step out and guide him on how to get the car into 1st gear and get it to move. Once the car was inside, they removed all 4 wheels and I observed the tech remove the first tire.

I noticed that the tech was having a hard time getting the new tire on so he asked another employee for help. That employee went to grab a pry bar that is not meant to be used on wheels. The tech was already using the correct bar designed to be used with the tire mount machine. I even YouTubed how to mount a tire while I watched them carry on this fiasco. While that was going on, I couldn't help but notice that the tech was not only slipping on the wheel as it turned on the machine, but he was also popping, damaging, scraping and scratching the inside and outside of the wheel at the same time with the pry bar! !

I made them aware that they were not using the right technique to mounting the tires based on previous experience and observations on top of the YouTube video which I tried to share with the crew! Soon after that, the manager asked if I wanted to go to another pep boys to get the job done because the tech wasn't qualified to do the work!!! Are you kidding me?!? I waited an hour before they attended to me, when they did start, they spent an hour working on 1 wheel... then, they damaged the wheel they started to work on and all of a sudden... the tech isn't qualified to do the work?!? Why wasn't I told before he started to work on the car that the tech wasn't qualified?

I was told by manager/sales rep who was there that morning to call the next day to resolve the issue with the scratches on my wheel and even gifted me a free oil change! Add injury to insult, I would never go back for anything to this facility, let alone an oil change!! I proceeded to file my complaint thru pepsocial@pepboys.com and 5+ days later, I have yet to hear from Senior Management or anyone else for that matter. I am simply irritated and disgusted by the level of professionalism and knowledge this crew had and now even PepSocial in addition to Senior Management!

I had an online appointment at 8 am 12/14/2017 - Store 127 Gainesville FL. I arrived 10 minutes early and the person of the counter Christina ** told me that 2 other customers are ahead of me. I objected since I had my first app of 8 am and no other app were possible to be scheduled earlier than 8 am. She said that I should wait as she waited when she was at the doctor office? Rude and unrelated with present issue. Only ONE mechanic was available for all shop for 10 garage doors/work stations? Waste of resources. Meanwhile 3 receptionists were killing time - playing loud music, dancing, playing computer games and having private conversations across the store. I witnessed a number of customers coming and leaving after they were informed of insufficient mechanics. Lost business due to mismanagement.

The waiting room was dirty on the floor/chairs/tables/windows - Trash on the floor - food wraps/empty water bottles, several days old customer invoices/receipts with private information discarded. The TV was on displaying static- even a cable box was attached to it. The water fountain in the store not working. I had to wait 2 HOURS until the mechanic finally took my car. I explained him the problem I have with one of the upper front strut mounting seats - A round rubber part that was broken. Both struts and spring were ok. I know for sure that since 2 other independent garages identify the problem. The reason I choose Pep Boys was the strut installation promotion 50% = $45-- That was not honored on the invoice - labor charged $289? He ignored me and wrote by hand? An estimate for replacement of both front/rear struts/springs.

Receptionist Christina ** struggled to read the mechanic handwriting for many minutes and made several mistakes on the invoice. I pointed to double charges of 2 different struts she tried to charge me and extra warranty that she did not disclosed to be optional. Over $1300 overcharged!! The numbers on the invoice shows $515 for package subtotal but parts total $563? After my objections she reduced the bill to $979. All other stores estimate was under $150 with no labor/installation discount! I am amazed how this store can survive with such incompetence, bad customer service, scamming customers?

Well after 1 1/2 hours seeing 3 cars coming off the racks and cars being put in them before mine, even though they came in after me. I was told it may be another couple of hours!!! It was obvious they were working on cars first that had more profit in the repairs than my simple oil change with a coupon. As I didn't want to drive back to Canada with bad brakes I told them to go ahead. When I picked it up I noticed that the brakes had not improved. When I returned to Canada I took the vehicle to my regular mechanic and he told me the master cylinder wasn't the problem, it was a rear caliper that needed replacing which he did. He said he didn't think the wheels had even been taken off by PEP Boys. The brakes are now working fine but I am out of pocket by $500 (US). A day trip to celebrate my daughter's birthday ended with our being stranded 1.5 hours away from home. My alternator died on the freeway ramp curbside off South Blvd. Roadside assistance towed us to Pep Boys store #132 on South Blvd. The store was soon to close and didn't have the needed part at their store. Thank God Tony (service manager) was there to make a decision - he gained consent from his awesome mechanics as well as he promised lunch to a mechanic who went to pick up the part (not his job).

That kindness alone was enough to cheer my heart. But, Tony went above and beyond the call, knowing that we were stranded in Charlotte, needed to get home as others needed to get into the house, and we had limited funds. Tony give us excellent repair service in addition to discounts to the very amount of our ability to pay. I'm sure this isn't an everyday practice, but that night, he made my daughter's birthday a blessing above what we could have imagined.

All of Tony employees were wonderful. The store was clean and well organized, and my car runs like new! That was the best car service experience I've ever had. We're certain to visit Tony as often as we are in Charlotte again. Thanks, Pep Boys management for hiring Tony ** and placing him in the South Blvd. store 132. Pep Boys is the best!

At the counter, a new worker replied they would do it and to pull my car in front of the garage door. Another employee met me there and said they couldn't put air in because it was too cold to open and close the garage door. I went inside and the worker behind the counter said they don't open the garage door to put air in tires if it was below 20 degrees. It was 45 degrees!! He said that I could wait, but it would take 30 minutes.

I watched as 6 cars drove inside the garage door and the door opened and closed within 30 seconds each time. There was no reason to wait 30 minutes to get air in a tire. The employees were totally unprofessional and arrogant. The manager called me after I had contacted the headquarters to file a report. He said he was sorry. I asked him what corrective action would occur. He said it is an internal manner. In other words, absolutely nothing was going to be done. Date of appointment July 2, 2017. Patchogue # **. I went to Pep Boys for an oil change, filter and spark plugs. I also requested that they check and replenish all fluids. I wanted them to be sure to check the coolant levels since the engine temperature warning light was flashing. Customer service was very disinterested. I had the first appointment of the day. My car was not looked at for an hour. When I received my bill it was not even the correct one. They were very disorganized. They made me wait for four hours. When I questioned them on the time, they seemed to have forgotten my car. When I left, my car was not running any better. There was no difference. The engine temp light was still flashing. It did not seem right. After this, my car performance was no better. I could not drive it much.

One month later I went for an inspection in my neighborhood. I updated him on the recent servicing and that the temp light was still flashing. Well, he told me that the car was down 3 quarts of oil. Impossible if I had just had an oil change. No leaks. Short infrequent trips. To my surprise, I was also short 2 gallons of coolant. No evidence that any of the work that I requested from Pep Boys was ever done. In fact, I left Pep Boys with less oil than I had before the appointment. My appointment for service at Pep Boys was a waste of my time and money. Pep Boys purposely scammed me or are egregiously incompetent. Pep Boys stole my money and put me and my car at risk.

At this point I don't know what harm has been done by them because of their malpractice and negligence. Immediately, I tried to call Pep Boys. The Patchogue store, Corporate number and social media. I could not get through. Same day, I put a dispute of charges with my credit card, Macy's/American Express. Now a few weeks later they closed the case, only getting the price of the oil back for me- 10.95. No other explanation. What about the spark plugs and oil filter, and labor charges? Should have used my Visa. They are more thorough. What can I do now?

If I could give them zero stars I would. I took my son's Envoy XL to them to have the ac repaired on 5/22/2017. I told them it was working, but blowing hot air and I thought it must have a freon leak. They asked if I had a diagnostic run on it to determine what was wrong with it. I told them no. So, they recommended that I have one done. I agreed. They called me and told me that it wasn't the ac. It was the clutch fan motor that needed to be replaced. They quoted me $260 for the parts & $300 for the labor. When I picked it up the bill was nearly $800!

They charged me $330 for the labor and $264 for the parts, plus they included a $35 shop fee that was never disclosed to me. They also automatically included the extended warranty (rip off). I had them remove that. My bill was $713.79. I paid and figured, well at least his ac is working. He pulled out of the driveway and called me immediately to tell me his ac was still blowing hot air. I called them back and their reply, "Well, it was working when we test drove it!" "Well, it's not now" I said. So, they told me to bring it back tomorrow.

Round 2: I took it back and was told it needed assorted other hoses and such replaced. I inquired why this was not discovered with their DIAGNOSTIC! Their reply, "I don't know ma'am. I wasn't the manager working then. He is no longer with us. I'll have to check into that." I guess when they discovered the clutch fan motor wasn't working they figured that would fix it and didn't look any further. "Ok," I said, "go ahead and fix it". Went to pick it up, $281.36. Again, I was charged the $35 shop fee for shop towels and degreasers, etc. I asked them since it was their fault I had to come back a 2nd time in 2 days could they waive that fee as a courtesy. Their reply, "No ma'am, we have to charge that fee every time!" Needless to say I was mad, but agreed and left.

Round 3: 4 days later, "Mom, my ac is blowing hot air!" I called them back. "Well, it was working when we test drove it. I guess you need to bring it back in and we'll look at it." REALLY??? I take it back. This time they call me and tell me there is a hole in the condenser and it will be over $900 to fix it! Again, I asked them, "How did you not catch this on the previous two visits?" Their reply, "Ma'am, I don't know. I wasn't the manager that worked on it. I'll have to look into that!" That's a canned response. Oh, they also had the nerve to suggest that maybe a rock hit the condenser the 4 days he drove it and knocked a hole in it!" They're ridiculous! Obviously, I told them, "Absolutely not!!! I will come pick it up and take it somewhere it can be fixed. If I agreed, you will just tell me next time that it's something else."

Bottom line, I took it to LeeRoy Thomason at Professional Automotive @ 4401 W Jackson St. 850-458-9322. He immediately diagnosed the hole in the condenser. He also discovered that the ac was not working to the back part of the truck and ordered a part for that and replaced that for the part cost only. His total charge for everything, including the extra work to get the back ac working was $700+. I don't remember the exact amount, but it was less than $800. Their quote to just replace the condenser was over $900, and of course that didn't include the SHOP FEE OF $35, their warranty (Ha! Ha!), and taxes and such. It would have been well over $1k on top of the $1k I already paid them.

Sorry for the essay, but people need to know to avoid this place like the plague. There is a reason they have 1 star. I was going to contact corporate, but they have low ratings as well. I'm guessing it's because they don't stand behind their work. By the way, I disputed the charges with my credit card company and Pep Boys has the nerve to say that because I signed for the work that meant I accepted it and it was working. NO, they make you sign when you pay in order to give you your keys. Sorry! That doesn't prove anything. Then, they say if you aren't happy you can bring it back and we'll check it again for free. REALLY? I took mine back twice after the initial visit. They may check it for free, but they won't repair it for free! It will cost you dearly.

Take note Pep Boys! This is not over. If this cannot be resolved with my credit card company I will see you in small claims court over this. You need to stop ripping people off. This is one person that will not stop until I receive restitution!!! I have never disputed a claim for services rendered in my life. But this is such a blatant rip off that I could not take it! I gave you two opportunities to fix an ac. If you don't have the skills to fix things then just say it! Stop selling parts in an attempt to find the solution!

I asked the guy if he had any good deals on tires and he told me several promotions had just finished and new ones would start soon. Check back in a couple of weeks. This was a local tire company, not Pep Boys. But, it was very close and I didn't want to drive far because I knew the alignment was way off from all the parts I had replaced.

Last night I checked a few websites looking for tire deals. Pep Boys had a Cooper Adventurer H/T buy 3 get the 4th free. The subtotal listed on the website came to $519.28 including the $85 installation charge. I knew there would be added fees for, at least, old tire disposal, + tax. I was expecting to get out the door for less than $600. So, I go there this morning. The manager said, "Sure, we can get you in after this tire repair." He went out and got the info he needed from my truck. I told him which tires I wanted and he had them in stock. Things are looking good.

He starts off saying the total is well over $900!!! But, that includes an alignment. I said, "I don't need that, it was aligned yesterday." He asked, "where?" Huh? I told him and he said, "we will check it anyway and show you the readout." I said, "fine, but I don't want an alignment." So, then he quotes a lower price, without an alignment. Then he takes off the price of the 4th tire but were still in the $700 range. He said that includes Road Hazard. I said, "I don't want road hazard, I want the tires and installation, that's all I want." He tells me how wonderful Road Hazard is and I still say I don't want it. Then he tells me that buying Road Hazard is often the "kicker" for the sales prices, if you don't buy it, you don't get the sale price.

I asked if that was the case here. He said he couldn't tell me, he was off for 2 weeks and just returned to work. There was another employee standing behind the counter also but he never said a word. The manager said "the way this works" is after the work is done and they ring up the transaction then the system decides what sale prices you may get depending on what you bought and what was done. I said, "do you can't give me a total price ahead of time?" He said, "I can give you a "ballpark amount!"" I told him no thanks and left.

I went several miles down the road to an AutoZone to return the ball joint press I had borrowed from them. The manager there asked me how it had worked and what all I had done on my truck. I told him, and told him I had an alignment done and how the truck now drove like brand new. Then I told him I had been to Pep Boys to try and buy tires for it. His eyes got real big and he said I never deal with them anymore. Then he proceeded to tell me about his daughter taking in a '93 Geo Metro (3 cyl) for a tune-up and ended up paying over $600!!!

Finally, I went to Walmart, about 1 mile from the Pep Boys for tires. The guy there told me exactly what the cost would be, didn't try to push extra sales, had the tires I wanted in stock (different brand than Pep Boys) and he could get to it in about 15 minutes. Walked around the store a bit, they called my name over the intercom and I went and paid exactly what was quoted. Easy, and no hassles.

The point I am trying to make about Pep Boys, from my experience, and from several other folks I talked to today, is that they try to make you feel like you "need" additional parts or services; that you just don't understand what you really need, but they do! In 44 years of driving, I have never destroyed a tire that had to be replaced. I have gotten flats, which I repair myself. I have no desire, or need, to purchase Road Hazard insurance on a set of tires. If I do, somehow destroy a tire, I will buy a replacement. However, it is my choice and I base my decision on experience, not sales talk. If I don't want my front end aligned, that is my decision, whether it was aligned yesterday or 12 years ago.

The employees at Pep Boys must work on commission. That is the only reason I can fathom as to why they push so hard to sell you things you don't really want, or need... So, that's my story. I got out of there while the getting was good and I will not go back to Pep Boys again. I strongly recommend you do some research before ever walking through their doors to buy tires or have repair work done.

    Installation & SetupPrice

I would like to know why it costs more money to for a service that I am giving Pep Boys than it would if I bought the product on my own. I recently had a new compressor installed in my vehicle which cost $400.00 dollars when they installed it but it would only cost $250.00 if I purchased it in the store. This has to be illegal. I am paying them to do a service for me. This should be less expensive than if I were to fix the problem on my own. Something needs to be done about this.

Brought to an online-scheduled oil change appointment, a flyer and a coupon for $49 Mobile One Synthetic Oil change. Confirmed the $49 price with the service dept. guy, gave him the flyer and the coupon. When the work was finished (and the coupon applied), I was presented with a $74 bill, plus tax. I requested to talk to manager, but was denied. Instead, I was given a ridiculous offer to drain the filled oil and uninstall the filter, to receive a partial refund. Never was I in a situation like this before at any auto service place. Unacceptable is too soft a word for this.
