I brought my car into Pep Boys, complaining about the AC sounding like it was sputtering and about to die. Pep Boys told me the issue was my filters needed to be changed and the AC liquid was low. I trusted their judgment so paid (400 dollars) and moved on with my life. Several days later, my AC completely died. I brought the car back to Pep Boys and was told that they would not charge another diagnostic fee (which they did). They then said the fan had died. I don't know if they were trying to milk money out of me and that's why they didn't even start my AC the first time to hear the problem (I'd imagine a competent mechanic would've understood the fan was dying if they had just turned the AC on to listen) but this also shows that the fan was never checked the first time around and I did not need the services they told me would fix the problem.

This is either an incompetent mechanic they hired or the business tries to milk money out of its customers. I tried to reach a resolution with Pep Boys regarding this and the only thing the manager was willing to do was offer me a discount on future services. However, I don't intend to ever go back to his location due to trust issues, I was willing to go to other Pep Boys locations but corporate wouldn't even talk to me. I waited a month to write these reviews to be fair to them and give them time to talk to me, which they never did.

Bought 2 extended warranty Wheel Alignments, $300. That was the EZ part, LOL! Brought one car in and told me $2200 to repair front end before I could have it aligned. Didn't bother to ask or tell me when they took my $. Asked for a refund for both cars. They refused. NEVER USED. NEVER AGAIN will I go there.

On September 4, 2025, I brought my car to Pep Boys Store #0157 in Miami, Florida, specifically because its website advertised a “$9.99 A/C Service Evaluation with Coupon.” I presented the coupon before any service was performed and was told it would be applied at checkout. After inspecting my vehicle, I was informed that the A/C compressor was faulty and that I needed to take it to the dealership for repair. I was then given an invoice totaling $58.83!

This total charge was inconsistent with the clear representation on Pep Boys' website and the coupon I presented for a “$9.99 A/C Service Evaluation with Coupon.” When I questioned why the store was not honoring the coupon, the representative attempted to contact his manager (Steven **), but he was not available. I was thus forced to pay the invoice under protest because otherwise my car keys would not be returned. This practice is unfair and misleading to consumers. Florida law prohibits deceptive advertising and billing practices. The misrepresentation of a $9.99 coupon for an A/C Service Evaluation while charging nearly six times that amount violates Florida law.

Horrible Service. Went to Pep Boys last month in August in West Wine St., because my car show; Tools sign- meaning need maintenance and the car slowing down. Looks like Raymond and his team don't know what that means or how to fix it and charge me for something I didn't need; Battery cable terminal and brake light switch. They also damage my Master brake. My brakes always work perfectly. I left there with my brake damage and now I have to push the brake pedal three times or hard to start the car. Plus the tool sign for maintenance was still showing. The next day slowing the car down again. They charged me $140.00 to look at the car and $382.00 for messing up something that didn't need to be done. Total; $522.00.

I had to go to Tire Kingdom across the street. They fix the issue. The tool sign is showing for maintenance. The Issue was the throttle fuel induction needing cleaning. Tool signs disappear, the car was driving well again without slowing down. Tire Kingdom also charges me a great price for service and half price to look at issues.

I made an appointment for the end of the day on their website, showed up on time, and Daniel checked me in. Daniel was the most rude, unfriendly, customer service person. He seemed pissed that I showed up, like he didn’t want to be bothered. He couldn’t even smile when I asked him how he was. He was actually dismissive and outright mean. Not the best representation for someone checking in clients. The guy who actually fixed my tire was very nice, but Daniel and the other lady Trish were talking crazy to a customer that came in to enquire about service. They just kept telling him to come back tomorrow, but not giving him any information … not even offering to make him an appointment. They were both coming at him like they were annoyed he came in. And then Trish came into the waiting room and started complaining to us about that customer while he was still there.

They are extremely unprofessional, unfriendly, and unhelpful… It’s obvious they are miserable and hate their jobs and the customer that come here. This place has the worst vibe!! I will never be back and will tell everyone I know never to come here!! They have so many bad reviews after sitting in the waiting room for hours … If I would have researched prior, I would have never come here!

This is regarding Pep Boys at 94-47 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica NY. There has been a recent change in management and personnel. Following a recent air conditioning repair, ** (the new manager) at the register told me that he sealed the hose and did not put in a new hose. And he did something unusual. He emailed the billing instead of paper itemized billing. When I got home, I found out that he charged me $273 (+ tax) for the hose. When I called back, they said he left. When I called back the following day, they said he was not in and will return two days later. When I called back two days later, they said he will come the next day. When I called the next day, they said he would come in the next day. When I call the next day, they first said he would call back. When I called in the afternoon, they said he was not in. This was ridiculous. This is fraud. I demand a refund of $273 plus tax.

If I could leave no stars I would. This particular location I went to was the worse. I went to have my AC checked as it would take forever for the cold air to come out. The price jumped from $50 to $100 then to $124 because I was quoted the wrong price for the Freon for my car then finally it jumped to $247. I was in there for 3 hrs to only be told that something happened to the compressor after they put the Freon in there. I was told to come back on Sunday (this day was a Friday). I was told to come at 9 am when they opened and that I would not have to wait. I go in Sunday right at 9 only to be told there were 2 people ahead of me that had made appointments Saturday night. Then I was told that one of the technicians called out. I wasn’t waiting and so I left.

Went to another location and was told to reach out to the store manager. Called him and he seemed very nice and apologetic about the whole experience and that he would take a look and see what kind of discount they could give. He said there was no waiting if I wanted to stop by and I was 5 mins away so I stopped by. He looks in the computer and the first thing that he says is “I see you filed a complaint“ and I said, "Yes I did reach out to corporate because when I left from there I had nothing but hot air blowing." After that his whole demeanor change and so now the bill went up to $599 and that the guy that helped me gave me the wrong pricing because he was still in training. I have yet to get my AC fixed in my car because I refuse to take it somewhere else if Pep Boys messed up my compressor and then have to pay someone else to.

Pep Boys on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn NY is the worst business establishment I have ever encountered! I highly recommend going there if you want to be robbed by the company and have the management have zero cares about it after. I paid $1400 to have my brake pads replaced, when I picked up my car all of the payment terminals were having problems so I swiped my card and the payment was made and the funds were taken out of my account. I showed 2 managers that the funds had been taken out of my account but they said this had been happening quite often and they needed to contact the I.T. Department. I made it very clear that I did not have the funds in my bank account and by no means should they ring this transaction up a second time.

A few days later, sure enough I woke up and another $1400 was withdrawn from my bank account. I called the store and neither of the managers wanted to be “Hassled” with my situation. They were both EXTREMELY RUDE. I was told by the manager he was not going to argue with me and that I had to call 1.800.pep boys to get my money back. I filed a dispute with my bank but was told it can take 14 business days to resolve the issue (THREE WEEKS)!!! Pep Boys has no concern about their customers…. NEVER GO TO PEP BOYS!

I took my car in to get worked on since it randomly died on me in a parking lot. Went to check the dashboard and saw starter system light was on. Thankfully the car was a manual so bump starting it helped. I thought to take it to Pep Boys in Corpus Christi Texas since it mentioned on their website they fix what I thought was an electrical issue. As soon as it got to the shop they told me they would have a look at it and it should be a quick repair. I went over there multiple times over the next couple of weeks to check in on the repair of the car.

I took the car in on a Wednesday. By that Friday they finally got it in one of their bays as they call them. The mechanic said it would be a few fuses and that the radio, headlights, and a few other minor things were missing the fuses for including the hazards. This issue I didn't have until it was in their parking lot as my hazards and lights were working just fine earlier that day. I asked to go see the car and they showed me the car. I inquired about the fuses and went to go see my fuse box. Where the fuse puller would be they removed it and said it was somewhere around the shop. I noticed a blue fuse was placed on the cover which I had never seen on the cover before and they told me it was there when they found it. That was the first of many red flags pep boys screwed me over with.

I went in to check on the car but got discouraged so I decided to call. Every time I called they seemed to always be busy and have an excuse for why they couldn't keep on their promise. I asked them on a Saturday what was wrong with that car and they said after running the diagnosis they thought it might be some other electrical issue. I was very busy the next week so I checked in less often, but I always had to call them since they wouldn't keep me updated on the car. They told me a week later that it was more than the fuses and it was a part for the clutch relay system to start the car. I shouldn't have trusted them and gone on with the repair. I went to see how this might play out and their mechanic told me he was trying to get the sensor off when it snapped into pieces. I have the photos documented.

I was forced to now order a sensor which they broke and charged me for their mistake. On ordering the sensor they didn't tell me it comes in a pair of two and charged me for the extra one without proper notification. All while ordering the sensor it took forever for them to get the part as they told me it will be in by a few days. A few days roll by and I ask again only to hear them say it should be in by the next day. After a week I am fed up and call them again saying if y'all don't have the part in by Friday I'm not giving you a penny.

This Friday marked close to a week of waiting for a small part. All they did was lie to me and waste my time and money. I was finally told on that late Friday evening the part would be in by Saturday. I shouldn't have agreed but what can you do when your car needs a part that they messed up with and time is an issue so I was forced to wait. I go in on my lunch break to check on the car thinking ok it's a simple fix but going into the bay I ask to see my fuse box one more time since it was questionable from last time. I am horrified at what I see. Inside my fuse box is a razor blade which I have never seen ever in a fuse box and shouldn't belong with anything electrical. I immediately take a picture 'cause something serious is going on and they have taken this way too far.

The explanation they gave me was they were using the razor to pull out and replace the fuses. This is a big no no as first they lost my fuse puller and now, they put a razor blade in the fuse box to remove the fuses. They are asking for a lawsuit it anything. I was always told a great mechanic shop will have the tools to do the right job for your car but pep boys is clearly cutting corners and using whatever they deem necessary for the job. I also ask them about the clutch relay since it's on my mind. The mechanic showed me the part in pieces and said it just fell apart in his hand when he tapped a wire. This was a big lie since when I examined the plastic housing it has the indents of prying on the plastic and a giant crack down the plastic housing for the sensor.

They then charged me double for that part after they broke it. They are criminals for what they have done to my car. Anyhow after they finally showed me all that I was hoping they might have the car all put back together that day, but it took them a few days. I was so mad I just went ahead and paid which I should not have done. Upon paying I asked for the parts they took out. They never gave me my fuse puller back. The did give me the second clutch relay they ordered in a bag which was their mistake for ordering two instead of trying to do the right thing and only buy the necessary parts for the car and not overcharge the customer.

I asked them to give me my old clutch relay back and they said it should be in the bag. After checking it I had to pull up a photo with the picture I has taken from the last time. After arguing with them they got the part back to me, but it was clearly abused on the housing. A little earlier on Saturday they finally gave me a call. They told me I would need a new steering column assembly which would fix the problem but would cost me a total of around 5 thousand to fix or they recommended I trade in the car. I told them I would have a decision when I came in, but after seeing the condition of the car I knew they once again were only trying to screw me over. I reluctantly paid and left really angry.

That next week I was busy, so I asked them to keep my car in their lot and make sure to lock it. I walked in there a week later since school had started a week earlier and got a tow truck to get it the hell out of pep boys. When I went in there I asked for my keys. They told me some guy ** had them so I said I'll wait. This was another lie. The keys were literally under their desk in a bag which they opened after a few minutes to get my keys. I went to look at my car one last time and found a few pieces of small plastic on the floor mat in pieces from some part of the car. I went in and asked about it only for them to say get lost and never come back again.

They only take your money, screw you over, and expect you to be in the wrong for their mistakes. The place is PEP BOYS in CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS the address is 5106 SOUTH PADRE ISLAND DRIVE. I repeat do not take your car here. The staff doesn't care and will screw you over. Who in their right mind as a mechanic shop thinks to screw over their customers is alright, my answer points to the people at pep boys who will screw you over, overcharge you, keep you waiting, and do careless work to an innocent person like me. I'm a college student and it's hard to balance both work and school but pep boys could care less about your personal life or anything for that matter.

This review is specifically for the 4670 E Tropicana Ave, Las Vegas NV location. They tried to scam me on needing new rotors. They initially said, "Your car needs new brake pads and rotors." When I told them I just had the brake pads and rotors inspected by Honda a few months ago, they said "that was a few months ago. If you've been driving Lyft or Uber..." That's when I cut them off. I hadn't been driving for Lyft or Uber during that time. It was only commuting to and from work. They then changed what they were saying to "You need new brake pads and to have your rotors turned".

I told them I wanted my car back right away. I paid for the inspection and went outside. They had the hood of my car open... There is nothing on the inspection checklist that shows they need to check under the hood for anything. Next thing I know, I get to my shop and my motorized tailgate will go up, but not back down. They must have tampered with or damaged a sensor, but would not admit to it over the phone. I maybe needed new pads (debatable) and definitely needed new tires, but there is no excuse to try and upsell the replacement of rotors onto your customers. Do not use Pep Boys for anything unless you really need to use the toilet and they are the only place that's open.

I was quoted a little over $1000 on the phone for both but when I got there, they told me that price was only for the tires. I should not have ignored this red flag, but I did and I allowed them to take the car to put tires on it and they told me it would be done in about an hour. After an hour and a half I received a phone call saying that they just started working on my car and that four of the lug nuts were cross threaded, and they wanted hundreds of dollars to fix the studs. The last people that serviced my car was the Subaru dealership and I’ve never had any issues there before, so I was fairly confident that Subaru had not crossed threaded.

I went back to Pep Boys and to stop the service on my car and I told them I was no longer interested in the new tires. I’ve had family members have issues with services at Pep Boys, but never tires. I was worried that they were now doing the same thing they had done to my Family member. My family member previously took a vehicle to Pep Boys for service and was told their turbo was cracked and it would be thousands of dollars to fix, but when they took it to another mechanic, there was nothing wrong with the turbo. I also had another family member that took the car there for service and Pep Boys said there was several things wrong with it and my family member ended up paying hundreds of dollars and later found out that the parts Pep Boys replaced were not the parts that needed repair. But like I said, I’ve never had any issues getting tires, but I realize now that Pep Boys scams people.

After the technician put the wheels back on my car I asked him to confirm exactly how many lug nuts were cross threaded, and on which wheel. He said there were two cross threaded on the driver's front and one cross threaded on each rear. I took my car to Buttons today, they’re great by the way, and he was found that I now have seven cross threaded lug nuts. I believe Pep Boys cross threaded the first four lug nuts to get additional hundreds of dollars on my service. However, I do have proof that they cross threaded at least three additional. I have the technician from Pep Boys on camera saying only four were cross threaded so he crossed right at minimum and additional three.

Pep Boys is the definition of shady mechanics. They quoted us $1,200, then reduced it to $500 to get a teen to take the car. Two minutes later, the car stopped running, and they wanted more money to fix a made-up issue! They deliberately break your car and squeeze you for cash. This place is a nightmare—avoid them if you value your time, money, or sanity.

When I dropped it off at 11:15, they said they were about 2 hours behind at 11:15 AM. Turned out to be about 5 hours behind. There was a lady that had a 4 PM appointment with the same service 4 new tires and she was finished before my car. The cashier even stated that the tech is in sloth mode today, and didn't have a logical reason why the 4 PM appointment was finished before a 11:15 AM appointment for the same service. I complained and he gave me a $6 discount, woot... not even $1 off for every hour I waited. The cashier was even on a personal call on his phone via Bluetooth earbuds while finishing the transaction. I find that extremely rude. Save yourself some time and go elsewhere!!

I asked him did he even drive it. He told me yes which was a lie. My car never went inside for them to inspect it. Very very bad experience and he act like he did not even care. They even admitted to me that they didn't get a chance to fix my motor mount because I rushed them. Within the past 3 weeks I've had 4 blowouts and I've almost been in accidents or ran off the road due to a lot of problems going on with my alignment.

Well today Nov 14, 2024 I took my truck to Firestone to have an alignment done and just found out that Pep Boys didn't do anything or put new parts on the vehicle like they said. Firestone currently has my vehicle and now I'm having to stay off work again and catch uber. I'm emotionally upset because I've been driving this vehicle for 5 months and risking my life. Now I have to come up with more money to have my vehicle fixed and I'm also pursuing a lawsuit against Pep Boys.

Kia advised that ground control in pcm when at emp is not grounding causing fan issue. It was never the fan.

They also found thing going on with my water pump and thermostat all I which PEP Boys didn't asset when diagnosing my car. I started my tire replacement journey my Shelby Raptor (6 tires) by shopping several of the local tire stores (including Costco). When I spoke with Devin D at the Winchester, VA Pep Boys, he provided options for several hundred dollars less than other dealers. Devin was able to get them within a day and scheduled my appointment for install the following day. I cannot say enough about the outstanding service, friendly staff, and his knowledge of the strengths/weaknesses of each brand and style. I had previously spent several hours researching on Dr. Google and YouTube, and he narrowed down my best options. I arrived for my appointment and within a few minutes they had my truck in the shop. The installer, Edward G, kept me appraised of his progress throughout the install and noticed my two extra tires mounted in the bed did not have a TPMS. Thankfully they had them in stock for install; making future 6 tire rotation more efficient.

The entire staff at Pep Boys was professional and as I left with Devin's business card, I noticed he was the service manager. In closing, I have bought several sets of tires (7 or 8) from another local dealer who also treated my well and had good prices, however, Pep Boys Winchester will now be my new tire store! We done to the entire staff at the Winchester Pep Boys!

Updated on 08/01/2024: Hello, this is an update. A higher up manager Scott ** contacted me on Tuesday and wanted to know what was going on. I explained the situation to him and he wanted to have the store manager from the Frederick location contact me to discuss having my car checked out. Darwin the manager from the Frederick office called me and was very nice and wanted to have the vehicle towed to him and he would personally check it to see what happened and that towing would be comp. I agreed and someone towed the car to Pep Boys in Frederick on Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday I called twice to check the status.. The first time I was told that they finished checking it and they needed to talk to the manager and I would get a call back in a few minutes. Three hours later there was no call back, so I called back. I was told that Darwin was off and that he told them that no one was supposed to touch the car. That was strange since someone had definitely touched the car already because I received a vehicle inspection report.

Today I called back to check and after being on hold Darwin came on and seemed to be annoyed by me calling in. He was saying that he cannot explain anything more than what was in the vehicle inspection report and that he needs to speak with his manager to see if parts are to be ordered and if they will be fixing it. He started getting hostile and talking over me. Saying I cannot get my car back until he talks to his field manager. However the field manager is not available because of meetings. He went into talking about how he has no idea what was done at Germantown and does not know what they fixed, even though I explained to him on Tuesday what happened. Saying very little information was given to him by his manager Darwin was very unprofessional; he was yelling and telling me I cannot get my car back.

I called calmly asking about my car and for a manager to be talking to a customer like that is unacceptable. I did nothing to him but allowed him to check the vehicle to see what happened. This is so ridiculous I did nothing to these people but brought my car in to be fixed. I will be filing a complaint with the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Office of Attorney General, as well as calling the authorities if I cannot get my vehicle back. I will also be contacting a lawyer to review this information.

I have attached the vehicle inspection report received from the Frederick office. All I was trying to do was get some clarity on that since what is listed in the report is not what was originally fixed at Germantown. Also I please tell the manager Frank not to call and leave voicemails at 7:19am from his personal cellphone to discuss anything with me.

Original Review: Pepboys should be ashamed of themselves. I brought my car in for rattling noise and shaking while accelerating. Was told I needed solenoids and a tune-up. Spent $2500 and car was worst than before. Brought it back the next day and was told my car was rejecting the aftermarket parts. So they ordered directly from dealer. Took them another few days to put it in because the manager Frank giving sob stories about his workers not showing up and they were scared of the heat. Also tried to reassure me that he drove it and it is fine. I was like, "No it is not." It started shaking before I made it out of the parking lot.

Also during all of this, I am the one calling them and going up there to check on the status of my car. Now they finally put in the original part and 1 week later my car stalls while driving. Brought it to a mechanic and whole time my car had low oil pressure so no my engine needs to be repaired. How could you not check for this with all the symptoms I was telling them. Do not bring your car to Pep Boys, they do not know what they are doing. Now I have no car and out $2500 after 2 weeks. You all are terrible people.

Wow... PepBoys REALLY HATES their customers. I mean, I am not exaggerating. I also reported to their corporate customer service but wanted to let the world know as well. I feel like I have been brutally mistreated recently (today). They have an online system that allows customers to make an appointment for a specific time. This means that they let their customers plan the day accordingly because they have an appointment system. I made an appointment for today July 13, 2024, at 8:30 AM.

I came in much earlier than 8:30 but the person at the front desk rudely told me (in a scolding manner, as if I did something wrong), without even greeting me as a customer, that there were people ahead of me that made an appointment days before me and that the appointment system doesn’t matter to them and I have to wait as long as it will take them to fix other cars. So as you can see, I was completely unappreciated and discouraged. In fact, yesterday evening, I stopped by Pep Boys to confirm that my appointment is all set and I should be able to be here today at 8:30 to get it done. And the person at the front desk told me and promised me that yes sure, 100%! Said I was all set and there should be no problems. So now, I feel like I have been lied to. I feel like I have been mistreated and I feel like PepBoys are not standing by their word.

I had other appointments and critical things to get done today and now my day is ruined because I don’t know when my car will be returned back to me. My life has been drastically impacted because of this. This is not right and PepBoys as a company needs to fix this problem. Because we as customers are the ones that make their business run. If they do not have customers, they will not have business. And, if this will not get taken care of, I will have to take it further through some legal actions. The store that this happened at is at the following address: 3700 Edgmont Ave, Brookhaven, PA 19015.

It needed to be ordered and of course paid for in full. Had an appt at 1pm the next day…Showed up at 12:30 only to ask about progress at 220 pm. Was told they were going to handle it then. Since waiting just shy of 2 hours. They wouldn’t refund tire so I could go anywhere else and made me take the tire with me…DON'T DO BUSINESS! here!!

In August 2023 I got an Alternator and a Water Pump fixed at Pep Boys. I was told the price would be about $152. Then they told me it was ready for pick up and the new cost was around $756 because they had to fix other stuff. However, they didn't notify me of this. As a result of cost discrepancies at the Pep Boys shop I wasn't charged the new amount. When I picked up my car I didn't even make it 1 mile away and my car horn started blowing and wouldn't stop. I took it back to the shop and they said that it was nothing that they did. However, this never happened before I took it to Pep Boys.

Since day one I informed them that something was wrong with my alternator because a licensed mechanic (AAA) told me that something didn't sound right with the alternator. They also fixed the water pump which is now leaking. Not only this the mechanic said that I now have a major oil leak and water pump leak. I noticed the leak after picking my vehicle up from Pep Boys, but I didn't know what it was. A mechanic said he thinks that Pep Boys sabotaged my car after, the situation we had about the price of their work. Now Pep Boys wants to replace the alternator but they said that because of the oil leak and oil getting on the alternator, the warranty is canceled, and it will cost me about $375 to repair it. But there was something wrong with the alternator BEFORE oil got on it.

I definitely do not recommend Pep Boys to anyone (not even my worst enemy) looking for a repair shop! I brought my 2011 Honda Accord in (dropped off Tues. Night, May 14) and was worked on Wednesday, May 15. Needed both cv axles replaced (vibration between 30-35 mph- smoothed out at 40 mph) and when I drove it off their lot to take it home, no issues at all. Thursday (May 16) I backed from my driveway, no problems turning left onto next road, kept straight until the end of the road. When I tried to make a right turn, all of a sudden the car wouldn't move!! In any gear, the car wouldn't budge at all. I put my 4 ways on, stuck in the middle of the lane (obviously embarrassed!!) And heard a loud crackling noise from the front of my car, thinking it was on fire!!!!

I opened the hood and the noise was coming from either the bottom of the car, or another location, which I have no idea. My son in law had to push the back of car home and I steered- on a steep road!!! Took about 1/2 hour or more to get home! Towing Co. Picked up today, so we'll see- definitely NOT my fault! It would never act this way on its own- was too reliable- ran/drove like a dream!! :'( I Need lots of luck and prayer!!

I do not recommend Pep boys for ANY type of repair. They claim to have changed my fuel pump. But when the work was completed my gas gauge wasn't working. There was no issue with the gas gauge when I dropped my car off and the fuel pump and gas gauge is one part. So, either they disconnected my gauge on purpose so I would need to come back for additional repairs or they never changed the pump in the first place. I never saw the old fuel pump and didn't take my car in for that issue. When I contacted the technician, Edgar, in Hialeah FL, he told me I would have to pay $112 for a diagnostic test and the repair. They broke the gas gauge, I'm telling you what the problem is but you still want me to pay for a diagnostic? For what?? They're crooks. They probably do this sort of thing often.

Corporate is no better than the lying technicians at the individual stores. I made 3 separate calls for assistance and each representative lied and said they would escalate the issue and someone would contact me within 48 hrs. No one ever contacted me. After looking up online, Pep Boys is supposed to be open until 7pm. I understand he wants to leave, but here is an ** female kindly asking him for his help, a minute of his time and he wanted NOTHING to do with me. Rattling Engine after Oil Change (with an admission that too much oil was placed in the vehicle). I recently took my vehicle in for a scheduled oil change, tire rotation, and an alignment if needed. I say if needed because I informed Mr. M the gentleman servicing me, that the car was pulling to the left. After dropping my vehicle off I proceeded with the day. I received a call a few hours later stating that the vehicle was ready to be picked up. When I went to pick up the vehicle I was told by Mr. M that I did need an alignment, he went on to say that he tried to call me but was unable to make contact so he went ahead and did the alignment. He was thanked, the service was paid and I left.

However, 30 minutes after leaving I was back because my check engine light was on, the vehicle was running ruff and still pulling to the left. My thought process was no way my vehicle is worse than before I took it in. To be fair I had a friend drive the vehicle before returning it and they stated that the vehicle pulled to the left and the right with them. Everything but ride a straight and narrow. Pep Boys then received a call Mr. M answered and my concerns were explained to him. He rebutted by saying "Yeah, well an alignment was done." I then asked, "Did you test-drive it before doing the alignment." I was told No, I asked, "Well how did you know that it needed an alignment then?" He stated because the machine said so.

He proceeded to say, "I only test drive a vehicle before repairs if a customer states that they hear a noise or feel something." My reply was when I brought it in I asked for an oil change, rotation, and if it needs an alignment because it is pulling to the left for you all to do it. He told to me bring it back because it was driving ruff for him when he test-drove it after the alignment, he said I think it's the transmission because I had a hard time getting it to accelerate, and when I did it gave that winding noise. He was told that the transmission and engine had both been replaced and he stated yeah, I would just take it back to them. He stated the reason he didn't document this was because he ain't think no more about it after explaining it over the phone.

The vehicle was dropped back off at Pep Boys within a 30 minute window from picking it up. Mr. M stated that the alignment was done properly and that he would check it again after I asked that it be rechecked. When I went to pick the vehicle up the second time Mr. M stated that the vehicle needed a laser alignment because it was showing that it was straight on the machine although it was still pulling when he test drove it. He even went on to state that he re-rotated the tires his words (the tires were placed back in the same position they were in before having the rotation) meaning the tires have not been properly rotated.

I was then told that it was nothing more that they could do, he recommended several body shops to take the vehicle to stating that they are the only people that he knows that performs laser alignments. However that they will not do anything outside of the laser alignment other than tell me what I will need to have repaired because there has to be vehicle damage causing it not to line up properly. When asked about the check engine light being on I was told that is a diagnostic and that I would be charged a fee, although the check engine light was not on before bringing my vehicle to them. My response was seriously I can take my car to Auto Zone or Anywhere and they will read the code for free.

Be aware that he never attempted to read the code. What he did offer was to bring the vehicle back into the bay to give me a requested printout that was never offered or provided to me. What he was not expecting was that I was walking around the bay area. What I witnessed was them redoing the alignment yet again and him showing me the numbers on the screen which I took a picture of because he said that the printer was offline that's probably why I never received a copy because the technician was like the work has been done let me move on to the next vehicle. He then told me that my vehicle would be ready shortly. Having to leave town for work the following day left me unable to address my vehicle concerns the way that I wanted to.

However, upon my return and driving my vehicle I noticed that my vehicle although driving straighter had this ticking rattling noise coming from the engine. I immediately took my vehicle back to Pep Boys where I stood at the desk for 6 minutes before Mr. M acknowledged me. I explained to him again that the vehicle was still running ruff and about the noise coming from the engine. Mr. M immediately went to deflecting passionately saying, "Yeah, I know it was running hard when I test- drove it," like it didn't want to accelerate. I told the guy on the phone that it was the transmission and he said that it had been replaced both the engine and transmission so I would just take it back to them.

After listening to him go on and on for a few; I interrupted and asked will you check my car to make sure you at least put enough oil in it? He replied yes drive it around to the side. In my mind, I am like this has to be a joke. He's not going to at least test drive it to see what I am talking about or into the bay. I took the vehicle to the first bay, and when the technician pulled the dipstick out, I instantly knew that something was wrong via his facial expression. He waved for Mr. M to come over. They began to whisper. Mr. M walked away, came back and tested the oil himself. When he took the dipstick out I could tell that something was wrong by his facial expression and hasty movement and they began to whisper even more.

Mr. M then walked to the driver's window and said, "He's going to take care of you." The technician asked me to get out of the vehicle because he needed to drive it into the bay and on the lift because my vehicle had too much oil in it and he needed to drain it out. While my vehicle was on the lift, I witnessed them drain almost two quarts of oil or more out of my vehicle. Mr. M then repeatedly said the name of the person who was responsible for overfilling my vehicle. The technician said to me, "It wasn't me, I would have remembered the headlights. I like them." I thanked him and was given the keys to the vehicle.

In conclusion before leaving I asked Mr. M if I was good. He stated yes, it just had to much oil in it. I then said, "So the noise I'm hearing is the transmission?" He replied, "Yes. I would just take it back to whoever replaced it. I am sure that's what it is." Not once did he or a technician test drive or do a diagnostic on the vehicle nor did they provide any documentation to show that the vehicle had even been brought back either time. Luckily for me I do have my ducks in a row.

Please Advise I am seeking to hear from Corporate with a resolution with this matter and my previous issue several months ago where I spent over $1300 in repairs to still have the same issue. May I also add that Mr. M has poor customer service skills (my opinion). He comes across as apathetic like he is annoyed and could care less what the customer is talking about. At one point when he thought I was not listening he said to another customer quote "ION care nun about it, people get mad all the time, I could care less" end quote.

I scheduled an appt and showed up to start work on my car. I needed an oil change, left front tire replaced (I had the correct tire purchased already, in my car trunk) and the left rear shocks/struts looked at because hydraulic fluid was leaking. I told the guy at the Service Desk all of that information while he was behind the computer at the front desk and while we were both walking out to my car to get the exact mileage from the odometer. I assumed he would hear what I told him and enter in the information into the computer for the work order or write it down. I had signed up for email texts to track the progress of my car work prior to this day.

The next day I received a phone call from Pep Boys (caller ID on cell phone) and when I asked "how much was the damage". The lady acted surprised and said the cost was paid for already with the prepaid maintenance plan I had bought at the time of purchasing the car. She said only the oil change had been done. I asked her why the front left tire had not been replaced with the tire I bought (in my car trunk) and why the shocks/struts were not fixed either? She said she had not been there yesterday, so she didn't know. By the way, the text with the status of the car work had been cancelled a little while after my scheduled appointment for 3 pm on the first day I showed up. I wasn't able to see the progress of what was being done in real-time for the repair work, before that phone call.

At this point the lady helping me on the phone said she'd create a new ticket for work to start on the tire and the shocks/struts. I asked for a total price on parts/labor and she did provide that. Ended the call shortly thereafter. Wednesday and Thursday went by. No phone call from the Pep Boys store or change in status on link that Pep Boys can provide via text, to see work progress. Still on "Work In Progress". By Friday I finally called the store and asked the status. The same lady I talked to on Tuesday answered the phone. She said the left side front tire replacement was done, but the wrong part was ordered for the left side rear shock/struts assembly. She said that the part would arrive by the next day and car repair would be completed then. Someone would call me.

Saturday goes by. No phone call. Status of work on the text from Pep Boys said "In Progress" still. It had been in that status since Tuesday. 2 different times, there was an "estimated pickup time of 7 pm". Wednesday and Saturday. Those both dropped off the status update the next day. Confusing. The following day I called Pep Boys again to ask on the status of my car work and a different employee answered the phone. He said he had been on vacation for 4 days and he really didn't know anything about my car work. He said the shocks/strut part still had not been delivered. He would call the dealer to ask on the status and then would call me back.

I waited 4 hours and called back a 2nd time. The first attempted call I made was answered. Dead silence. Then the phone call ended suddenly like someone picked up and hung up. I got a call back within 30 seconds from the Pep Boys store (Caller ID on my cell phone) and it was the employee I had talked to earlier in the day saying someone had called their store? This is where it got extremely awkward and very unprofessional. I told him that I did not want the shocks/struts to be replaced and for them to get the car ready for me to pick up tomorrow after I finished work. He asked, "You mean put the car back together??" So, it sounds like my car may have sat on the lift for days with that rear left and right tire assembly taken apart. That would not be good for Pep Boys business with 1 lift being out of commission for days.

I told him I was frustrated and felt it was time for me to pay my bill and get my car back so we could all move on. I should not have to pay for the shocks/struts part itself, considering how things were going with this service experience. He accused me of threatening him and said he would have the manager call me tomorrow. No manager onsite for Sundays? He said he wouldn't talk to me anymore and hung up the phone on me. Manager called me the next day. 1 of the shock/strut assembly was delivered. Other one was ordered from out of state and would arrive the next day. 1 week now and repair still not done.

Next day, manager called back and said repair was finally done. I said I would be by in a few hours to pick it up. I get a phone call 20 minutes later. I let it ring so they would leave a VM. No VM. I realized I could pay for the car repair online. I called the store back. Manager apologizes for calling me earlier stating he got confused and dialed wrong number. I did get a link to Pep Boys portal. When I paid the amount, it was more than the paper invoice total by almost $300. I emailed customer care dept. and still have not heard back from anyone. No phone call. Was given a case #. Hopefully I will get refunded. Not expecting to, seeing how this whole experience has gone.

Pep Boys has the worst service and is the most disorganized place ever. I would never ever recommend them to anyone. My car did not pass inspection (not at Pep Boys) due to needing tires. I called and ordered tires on October 7th and scheduled an appointment for October 11th. I arranged for rides to and from work due to this appointment so I dropped my car off in the morning before I went into work. I was called a few hours later telling me that they didn't have my tires which at this point I'm unsure why they didn't call me the night before instead of letting me bring my car there for nothing.

At this time the service manager I spoke with was going to order them and schedule an appointment but due to them supposedly ordering them and them not coming in it was decided that he would order them and call me when they came into the store, then schedule an appointment to have them installed. Due to this inconvenience he did offer to not charge me for the alignment. On October 18th (a week later) I still had not heard anything so called in the morning but no one answered and it kept ringing. I again called later and spoke with someone who stated they were from a different store and would be taking over this store. He put me on hold to go look/find where my tires were but at some point I was disconnected so called back.

He told me that they did not have my tires which I expressed frustration with this and explained the prior issue. He stated that he would call another store and supposedly go get them personally himself. On October 19th I had tried calling the store several times throughout the day to check in but every time I called there was no answer and the phone kept ringing. I also called customer service/support whatever they want to call themselves (although they do nothing) who only told me they would let people know. On October 20th I again called the store in the morning to avail. It kept ringing with no one answering.

I again called customer service/support who again said the same thing. They would let someone know. By this time I am beyond angry because now I only have 10 days to get/find tires, have them installed and take it back/make an appointment at the place where I failed for a re-inspection. I demanded that someone called today as it is Friday and I know they won't be working on the weekend and then there goes by more time. Of course no one called so I called several times throughout the day only for them to tell me they would let someone know which who knows if they did just like they probably never ordered my tires.

So now I had to go elsewhere to find tires and as you can imagine couldn't not get tires ordered, in and an appointment until October 31st which then means I will be driving around without my car inspected because I will then have to make an appointment which means I can't make one until November 1st or depending if I can get in the same day I get my tires done. Pep Boys has severely inconvenienced me to the point where I could be pulled over and get a ticket due to not having my car inspected. I will never use them again. They don't know how to call and communicate, they are disorganized and clearly don't answer phones/call back meaning they don't want your service.

When the service was done they call me to pick up my truck, when I got there the oil change was done but they didn’t rotated the tires because there was a nail on the side of the tire, I check and the nail wasn’t on the side so I ask to rotate the tires but they didn’t wanted, the manager started to talk louder so I decided to leave and I spent $40 in other place to rotate tires. Is not fair just because they didn’t want it do it without a reason. I hope somebody call me from Pep Boys to give me an explanation and to pay me back for that rotation that I have to pay out of my pocket.

There were a series of miscommunications but what upset us most was the ill-mannered interactions with us. We hope Pep Boys understand the importance of customer services. We do not need Pep Boys employees giving griefs on top of our car problems. Let alone Pep Boys employees lacking empathy, but also they demonstrated rude customer services by disrespectfully answering our questions from the very first conversation to finally hanging up the phone abruptly in mid-conversation when I asked for his name for the negative attitudes throughout the encounter.

Poorly trained or uninformed representatives miscommunicated with us frequently during our brief encounter (store was closed before the advertized business hours, told to pick up the vehicle, but when I got there I was told too soon to pick up, etc, miscommunication between the employees about my request on specifics of inspection and also about the exact inspection results, in addition, they couldn't find my key upon completion of service). Sadly lack of resolution on my end as to what's wrong with the vehicle after all the work and money I spent. I highly question their professionalism and integrity. I would not recommend them for your car issues.

I came in to have tires that I purchased from TireRack put on the vehicle. The online quote was $78 and I needed to save some money. Appointment was 11am. After additional charges it became $103. Sure. Time quoted was "about" an hour but we know the about adds time. So I walked to get lunch. I get called at 1:28pm. I need brakes on the back. $350. Okay - but also they haven't checked the rotors. They'll call me back in 20.

I walk back in. Yes I need rotors. $599. I can't afford that so decide to take it to a friend instead. They say okay they are halfway done. 3 hours in to mount 4 tires. Then the manager Kris hits me with "We cannot let you take it. It's unsafe". After arguing and crying - and her telling me to call the police and they will show the officers the car - I agree. It should be ready about 4. I decided to ask to see it in writing where they need to keep my car unless I pay to have it towed. When they can't produce it. I let Kris know if it was untrue I would come back with a lawyer.

Now I am allowed to take the car of course with threats about not driving it. Also. The technician working on my car is at lunch. Got the keys after three and took it directly to a friend. Plus I asked them to put my spare back underneath. After all the **, they put it in my back seat. They cannot by law keep your car UNLESS they tell the police you refused to pay. Which is why they'll tell you they cannot let you pay before they are done. I Just wanted to advise anyone who goes to this shop what kind of tactics they use. Completely dishonest and lie. Also most shops do alignments free with install. They attempt to charge me $129. Kris was absolutely out of line and dishonest. Walked out at 3:20. $103. But now another task, to call the Better Business Bureau.

I accessed Pep Boys online it allowed me to select services that I felt I needed and after selecting an alignment and an oil change (free filter was supposed to be included) and set the appointment for 8am to my surprise also happens to be the time that PEP BOYS opens as I arrived at 7:50 am. Another person that was there before me got out of his car before I did so that is when I realized that multiple people are assigned an appointment in the same time slot.

Okay so it's my turn. I approach the counter and let the clerk know that I have a 8am appointment. She looks me up. So I thinking when she asks what was I there for? I said I filled out my request online but in my head I wondering, "Why are you asking" because I made the selections. To me she should have been just confirming what I took time out to complete online. She asks me how do I know I need an alignment. Actually I knew it because my car was pulling to the left not to mention it was already on my to do list. I was under the impression that there would be an inspection regardless free of charge. After all that she tells me that there is only 1 mechanic right now and the other will not be in until 10am which is unacceptable because when I filled out the appointment request I selected will stay and wait.

If you knew that there would only be 1 mechanic at 8am I should have been notified before 7pm the prior day. That to me is poor customer service. Also I never got to speak directly to the mechanic. It should be a requirement. On my receipt there were 8 items that stated the customer declined. That is untrue. I was never informed of them until all service was completed. 2 items are very important. The drive belt Idler Pulley (Serpentine belt) and the Alternator drive belt pkg. Again that is poor customer service and to avoid conflict with her superiors she covered herself by saying that I declined which was a lie because it was never brought to my attention.

Her general customer service skills are poor. If you are not feeling well you should stay at home if you cannot be pleasant. Just because of her attitude I refuse to return to that Pep Boys. I was there 4 hours and my car did not feel the same as when I brought it. Note the mechanic did what he was supposed to as far as repair. But again he needed to speak with me directly.

THIS PLACE WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! I previously made an early morning APPOINTMENT. So I left work and planned to go back. My engine light was on, I knew I needed a tune-up and asked for a tune-up. The guy at the front desk kept telling me they have to charge an $100.00 fee to check why my engine light was on. I agreed to just get the process started. I sat there for almost 3 hours and watched other mechanics take other cars back and other individuals leave out with their cars. I went up to the front desk and asked the guy when would someone start on my car he states, “Yours is going back now.” I wait for about 30 more minutes until I was the last one left waiting.

I look to see my car still sitting in the same place as before. I asked the guy at the front desk again when would someone start on my car. Once again he says, “Yours is going back now”. Until I see him attempt to take my car back on his own. At that point, I explained to him I had an appointment and asked for my key back. He had absolutely no excuse. The very next day, I went to a reputable shop for a TUNE UP and I’m so glad I did. I was not overcharged for anything I didn’t need, they were honest and I was in and out at a reasonable time.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Pep Boys, and I must say it was an absolute nightmare. From start to finish, everything about my visit to this auto service center was a disaster. I strongly advise against choosing Pep Boys for any of your automotive needs. First and foremost, the customer service at Pep Boys was abysmal. The employees seemed disinterested and lacked basic knowledge about the products and services they offered. When I asked for assistance, they were dismissive and seemed more focused on their personal conversations than helping customers. It was clear that providing satisfactory service was not a priority for them.

To make matters worse, the quality of workmanship was appalling. I brought my car in for a routine oil change, and they managed to botch it up completely. Not only did they take an excessively long time to complete the job, but they also failed to tighten the oil filter properly, leading to a leak. This negligence resulted in extensive damage to my engine and required costly repairs. It was a clear display of incompetence and lack of attention to detail.

Moreover, the pricing at Pep Boys was exorbitant. They charged significantly more for their products and services compared to other reputable auto service centers in the area. It felt like they were trying to take advantage of customers by inflating prices without providing any additional value. It was a blatant rip-off and a clear example of their greed.

Lastly, the overall organization and cleanliness of the facility were subpar. The waiting area was dirty and disorganized, with outdated magazines and uncomfortable seating. The lack of cleanliness and order gave the impression that Pep Boys did not prioritize maintaining a professional environment for their customers.

In conclusion, my experience with Pep Boys was nothing short of a nightmare. The combination of terrible customer service, shoddy workmanship, inflated prices, and a disorganized facility makes me strongly advise against ever using their services. Save yourself the headache and choose a reputable auto service center that values its customers and delivers quality work. Pep Boys should be avoided at all costs.

I took my car to Pep Boys in Brockton Nov of 2022 to fix leaking transmission lines. After 2 weeks there Jake the manager called me to let me know they fixed the car but with inferior lines that the car came from the manufacturer originally they installed rubber lines which it was like putting a bandage on the lines. I picked my car up. I noticed that the info on my paperwork was all wrong. They had the wrong year, wrong name, wrong miles. I told them to fix this. The manager Jake, kept telling me he had to call headquarters to fix it, it never got done, so I took my car home but beginning of March 23, my car die again with the same issue as before due to them installing rubber lines instead of metal tread transmission lines which are heavy duty lines to withstand high pressure on a Mustang GT.

I called PB and I was told, "Bring the car. We will fix it since is under guarantee for work we did," then is when my ordeal came about, my car sat in their parking lot days after days. I kept calling Jake the manager that I deal with the first time. Left message after message. Never got a call back until I went in person just to find out Jake got fired so did other staff members, then I spoke with Tyson another manager that was sent to the Brockton store, he claimed he didn’t know much of my situation with my car but that he will take care of it as soon as he will hire a master mechanic to work on my car because they were working on getting new mechanics, again, my car just sat there for weeks and weeks. I kept going there and talking to Tyson just to finally tell me my car was going to be towed to Pet Boys in Raynham, "They will call you next week," he said.. Never got a call back…

I finally talk to manager Tim. He asked, "What’s the story with your car?" I said seriously?? I found out from him that the Brockton shop closed down, so I had to start all over again. My car is sitting there again for weeks. I told them NOT to put the same rubber lines again because I was gonna end up with the same failure again, Tim the manager said they could not find the original part but they told me ,"If you can find the parts yourself order them and bring them to us. We will install them," which I ended up doing. After calling different places I ordered them online and I brought them to them. They said, "we will have the car Saturday."

I got a call Saturday thinking finally my car is ready… Nope. It was Louie to tell me that Tim went on vacation for 2 weeks… I am so frustrated about this. I am a stage III lung cancer patient and need to go twice a week for doctors appointments and treatments and have no car. So I am relying on Uber and family members to take me. This is not good for my health. PLEASE PLEASE help me resolving this issue. I will really appreciate it. After my car being there since March it is ridiculous unacceptable. To whoever is reading this PLEASE DO NOT DEAL with Pet Boys. They are useless unprofessional and don’t communícate with their customers at all. Such horrible experience.

We called to ask why it had not been adjusted and were told that it was not possible to adjust camber on that model and that we would need after market parts to do so. We went and got a second and third opinion of other mechanics and were told that it was absolutely possible to adjust camber and we wouldn't need any parts at all for it. Upon learning this, my partner called again and asked them to fix the problem given it was quite literally what they were paid to do. To whom it may concern, I have had the worst experience ever with Pep Boys. I am going to write a Google review and Four Square review to warn others of the poor service and deceptive business practices. As you can see I paid almost $175 for an oil change and air filter that was to include other services under the Manager's special. We brought my wife's car in at 10am Saturday 9/24/22 and waited for 2 customers ahead of us which is fine. I was asked if I will wait or drop the car off. I advised I will drop it off and was told it will be ready in the afternoon in a few hours. I was told I would receive a call. I sat in my home until 3pm checking your app on my phone to see if the work had even started and nothing. I waited another 2 hours and the app still showed nothing.

By 6:30 I told my wife, "Let's go and pick it up and take it someplace else on Sunday because this place appears to be unreliable and has already deceived us." We arrived at 7pm and saw that they had just placed the car on the hydraulic and since they were closing at 8pm I decided to watch them through the window from within the store. I watched them change the oil, and add a gasoline additive to the car, I saw the air filter changed but the tires were never touched and the car was not sanitized as advertised either. I did not really care about sanitizing the car but a tire rotation, brake inspection was all part of the deal and no tires were removed. I was already angry from being lied to about the time but kept my cool and told the cashier/service person that the tires were never removed and rotated.

What makes me even angrier is that you can see that figures were entered on the sheet as if the tires were removed, rotated and brakes inspected. What if there was a problem with my wife's brakes? If her brakes would fail after this you know I would do the same thing you would do; I would call my family attorney and sue for punitive treble damages. I was told I could come back to have the tires rotated; because of our schedules and patient loads we have no time during the week so I returned yesterday after lunch. I was only looking for a tire rotation because the last time I took her car to Honda and all was well. Since I was deceived and caught them in the act I assumed they could do a quick tire rotation and I would have been happy and done with this. That did not happen. I was told it will be several hours. I asked what time they open on Sunday and was advised 8am.

We returned for a 3rd time today, Sunday and arrived at 8:08am. I waited 2 customers and was told the same thing that it will take several hours, I was livid at this point but did not display outwardly how angry I was. I told the salesperson forget it and I started to take back my paperwork from the salesperson and he held the paperwork more tightly and I finally just pulled it from his hands and told my wife I know what to do next and we left. Now you know why I am going to put a copy of this email to you as well as on your review board, Google reviews and any other reviews.

If I treated my patients the way you treat your customers I would probably have many deceased patients. I will never return to Pep Boys because of your poor customer service and deceptive business practices. How many people have been to Pep Boys and dropped off their vehicles and assumed their tires were rotated, brakes inspected or even oil checked. Is this how you make a profit?

About a month later the car broke down on 120 hwy and you can see smoke. At that point I was frustrated with Pep Boys and decided to call a mobile mechanic. The mobile mechanic informed me it was the coil that burnt and cracked the black thing that sits on top of the coil. He said because of the bad coil this can have electrical short and damage to the engine. He told me to take a lot of pictures before taking it back to Pep Boys. Stated that if they don't take care of it he would take them to small claims. I took it back to Pep Boys. Told them what the mobile mechanic said. It was a bad coil that started the crack the black piece that sits inside the coil that caused it to burn and smoke and may have a short or worse. They called and stated that it was the negative battery cable and the battery and it would be about $400.00 for both parts. I told them I wanted someone who knows what they are doing to check the car. They called me back and said it was the engine that is bad. What the!!!!

I asked for details what they meant by that. The Following day I called and talked to the Office Manager who was on vacation. Stated that she would find out. The next day she told me Dave the District Manager sent his Super technician to inspect the car and he told her the cause of engine failure was because of a tune up that caused the engine to fail. I had an inspection 3 times and they missed all three times. Sara (sp) the office Manager stated that wasn't the issue 5 months ago. This is recent? Again what the!!!! 3 Inspections still bad coils and still under warranty and stated they replaced oils and spark plugs because it was still under warranty but now have a bad engine.

Pep Boys use to be good, Not anymore. If I could give a negative number I would. Do not use them. I am planning to take them to small claims. I am not knowledgeable or mechanically inclined when it comes to cars but this is not fair. I will not ever use them again. Date of experience: August 31, 2022.

Oscar at Pep Boys in Albuquerque is not only their top mechanic, he is someone who actually cares. Traveling from TN to AZ my daughter and I pulled in to have our battery checked here. The mechanic on duty was helpful and kind. He determined our alternator was probably bad. The manager informed us though, he would not be able to look at our vehicle the following day as they were totally booked. He did however tell us we could keep our car in the garage there until we could get someone to get it, as it would not start since they asked us to shut it off.

We were in an unfamiliar area and had our suitcases at hand standing outside pep boys with my two granddaughters. We had to call around to find a hotel and an Uber to get to it. We tried several shops and no one was available to get our car serviced. Knowing we had to get it out of their garage, we called a towing company. The next morning we went to meet the tow truck, not knowing where in the world we were going to get it towed too. We stepped into pep boys to tell them we were having a tow truck come. That’s when Oscar stepped out with a big friendly smile and asked us if we wanted him to fix it.

He asked us a few questions about the car, said he could have it done in 2 to 3 hours and stated he had the time on his schedule and would be happy to help. He recognized our situation and said it was no problem. We were so happy and relieved. Thank goodness for people like Oscar! He took time to take notice and step in and help where help was needed, rather than turn people away not giving a crap about the circumstances They may be in. A lot of the time, titles mean nothing. You can be a manager, a boss, the list goes on and on, but being a decent human being and being kind to others like Pete and Oscar did for us, that is what leaves a lasting impression with customers. Pep boys in Albuquerque needs to give recognition to Oscar, he was like an angel for us that day. We are forever grateful for his expertise and most of all his kind manner.

In May of this year, I purchased a new battery for my 2014 Buick encore, In July I went out of town so the car sat for 5 days and would not start when I returned. I jumped it and took it back to Pep Boys at 6900 Highway 6 north in Houston where I purchased it. They checked the battery and told me it was good and maybe I had left a light which I am sure that was not the case but fine. Again, in August I went out of town so the car sat for 5 days and when I returned it would not start, I took it to Pep Boys and again they said the battery was good. I took it back the next day to have a diagnostic service done per their suggestion to see what is draining the battery, after the diagnostic service was done, they said nothing was wrong with the car and the battery was good. If there is nothing wrong with the car then it must be that the battery will not hold a charge. Any car should be able to sit at least a month and still start if it has a good battery.

The manager said he cannot replace the battery because the computer says it is good and if he replaces it that would be warranty fraud, which is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. The fraud is on the part of Pep Boys because when they sold me the battery, they said it has a warranty which I feel they will not honor. Their own mechanic checked the car and said nothing is wrong with it. I think it is obvious the battery has a defect and will not hold a charge if it sits.

This place is a scamming place. This is my third time here and the first time I was very happy. They gave me a very good price on an oil change and gave me a rundown on what I needed to get done on my car in the future (I knew these things needed to be done, but it was nice to hear their prices). And we were done for this visit. Then a few months later, I hit a pothole getting on the 118 on ramp from the 210 and I needed a tie rod, a steering sensor, a steering torque position sensor and angle sensor. They told me that the evaluation was free if they did the work but now I realized that they changed me for it. When I picked up my car, they explained that my steering wheel was really easy to turn to the left and difficult turning to the right and if it didn't work itself out to bring it back. Even though it sounded like it was an alignment problem, they assure me that they did a complimentary alignment already ( another thing that I paid for).

Please note that each time I picked up my car they handed it over in the garage area. This time we dropped off my car for an oil change and the guy told me that I had a nail in my tire side wall and needed a new tire and he sent me pictures to show me (the nail was on the bottom of the tire, not the sidewall). He tried to tell me that even though it looked like it was on the bottom, it punctured the side of the tube inside. Seriously!!!!

Then my husband's truck was in the night before to get it back early on Sunday. We couldn't get ahold of the shop for hours but when we did, a lady named Gabby said that the oil pan screw was stripped and we needed a whole new oil pan. But if we wanted they could put oil back in the truck so that he could use it until an oil pan came in. Then she told my husband that they could put oil in it but it would have metal shavings in the oil and she would not drive it if it were her. When we came in she said that she would show us the problem but when I tried to follow her into the shop (where I have always picked up my car) she turned around and got in my face (I almost punched her) and tells me that I can't go into the garage area. Now she tells my husband that she can not put oil in the car because the screw didn't fit anymore.... So now, either I buy a new oil pan from them or I have my car towed. Con artist, scammers, thrives. Do not go here!!!!

They called me after, they had completed the list, but engine light was still on, I was told to replace the catalytic converter. I said my budget is not suited for this extra job. They told me my car won't drive if I don't change it. I said I do not approve the work, and asked them prepare the car to pick up.

They told me to apply to the pep boys credit card, I refused. I told them if the car won't move, I would tow the car to my home. They said, "Ok let me talk to technician to bring the car outside from the shop." I told him, "I already saw my car parked outside." He said, "Ok let me talk to the technician." He left, while my cousin was with me, he went outside and I stayed inside. My cousin went to next to the car, the guy who was talking to me inside, his name is Harry, he went to my car, opened the hood, and installed the sensor, my cousin was watching him. We were told, they already replaced the sensors!!!

I think their plan was to start the engine, but the engine wouldn't start, and forced us to replace the catalytic converter. Harry said he would just talk to the technician, but instead he went outside with the oxygen sensor, and installed it. I started the engine, and drove home! I was told that the engine wouldn't start and my car wouldn't move. I will never take my cars to pep boys again. Ever. I don't even know if they did what I was charged for. More than she wanted to spend but if it fixes the problem and gives us AC then it is worth it. Friday April 15, driving to NJ the AC works. Saturday April 16, driving home from NJ there is NO AC. She took it back to Pep Boys Monday morning (the 18th) where they proceed to tell her that it will be $1500 to ACTUALLY fix the AC. That the $300 was just the first step in the process. That they did the "free AC" check and had no way of knowing there were leaks in the lines.

She explained she needed to be refunded, that she will not pay $300 for one day of AC - that they were to have figured out the issue before refilling (why else was she there for hours after my scheduled appointment if they weren't actually diagnosing?!). They say they can refund the charge for the diagnosis (note that they had JUST said that it was a free AC check minutes earlier). They say that this $300 is always explained to be the first step. That the dye test they did, etc. that is not definitive. That they are SURE she was told this. She reiterates everything that she was actually told - and they argue that she is wrong. That they ALWAYS say this. Implying that either she is dumb or lying. She left a message for their district manager - since this manager on site was nothing but disrespectful and dodgy. I moved to FL one year ago. I’ve used Pep Boys for my oil changes because it was convenient, not because it was recommended. Neighbors and friends in the area recommended elsewhere because of their poor experiences. They did admit that it had been a while, so maybe things were different. Again, I gave it a try because of convenience. I had no issues until this situation, which is the most bizarre experience I’ve had in my 23 years of owning cars.

On August 28th, I walked into Pep Boys and explained to Jesus, who I understand is the manager, that I was driving from FL to NJ for an extended visit, and wanted a set of new Pirelli PZero tires. I also made an appointment at this time to drop the car off during a business trip a week later, so that I didn’t go without my car while I was in back in FL.

I picked up my car on September 8th and took it home. On the 24th, I made my drive up to NJ. When I arrived on the 26th, after a car wash, my father immediately pointed out that he didn’t think I had gotten new tires. My father has been collecting cars for his entire life, and I told him I was not sure what new tires would look like, but that I would call and make sure Pep Boys actually changed them for me and didn’t just rotate the same ones. He assured me they weren’t new and to call.

I called and spoke with a manager named Steve who asked me to send photos of the tires. I took them and emailed them over, saying in my opinion, maybe the two back ones were new, but what do I know? They were clean so I’m not sure if I could tell. I didn’t hear back from Steve so I called back on October 1st to see what he thought. He said that he wanted me to go to a Pep Boys nearby and have them take a look and have them call him back. I could not do it that night, so I went the next day. I went to Pep Boys store 711 in NJ.

I walked in and asked the man behind the counter to look at my tires, and told him my situation. He came out and measured the tread in the tires and told me the tires weren’t new. I called Steve immediately and asked Peter if he would speak to him. He did. Peter told Steve he looked at the tires and they were not new. He also called another gentleman out of the garage (I did not get his name) and after looking at the tires, he said they were not new tires. Steve was very apologetic, and said he would be in touch after they looked at the cameras to see what happened. I told him I was making the drive again in November, and I just wanted new tires before then. It wasn’t a rush. I wasn’t being a jerk. Mistakes happen.

But then I went another week not hearing from anyone, so I called Steve to see what was going on this past Saturday, October 9th. Steve said they checked the cameras and the guys did change my tires. I told him I am really not concerned anymore with what his camera shows, since clearly, they are not new tires. I get that my father’s expertise doesn’t count, but the manager I went to in the Pep boys in Pompton plains, as well as another gentleman in the garage, told them they measured and they weren’t new tires. THIS IS WHAT THEY TOLD ME TO DO. I told him I was frustrated and this is getting ridiculous. Steve said that Jesus the manager would be calling me first thing Monday morning to discuss it. (Oct 11th.)

On October 12th. I had not heard back from anyone. I was ready to put this everywhere online to save people the trouble I had, but then thought maybe instead of writing a scathing review I should contact corporate. I spoke with someone who said they would get the area director involved. That was 1 month ago. I was told the area director in Central Florida was handling it, and I would get a call back soon. IT'S NOVEMBER 21st- I NEVER HEARD BACK. I got new tires at another company before my drive down again to Florida, and they actually showed me the difference between my supposedly "new" tires which only had 2500 miles on them, and actual new tires. They were disgusted when I told them the story, and how Pep Boys across the board from FL to Corporate are liars who CLEARLY do not care about their customers or making any mistake right.

This is wrong, and it shouldn’t have taken this long to figure this out. I’ve done everything they’ve asked and I’ve just been treated like… yea no big deal whatever. They could've just refunded me the money for the tires and done what’s right. I’m not asking for pain and suffering, just what I’ve paid for and didn’t get. And how about ANYONE at this company be responsive. I'm sharing this story everywhere to warn people - STAY AWAY FROM PEP BOYS NO MATTER WHAT LOCATION!

I am never returning and wish I could provide 0 or negative number of stars for the review. I went to the PepBoys near me regularly because it is so close to my house. However, I keep having multiple bad experiences and will never return. They first took out my cabin air filter and later realized they didn’t have a new one compatible with my car (which is a standard Nissan Versa). They threw out the old one so didn’t replace it and never told me so I drove around with no filter at all for months before realizing.

Then, I went again and set up an appointment for the first morning slot so I wouldn’t have to wait. The mechanic was an hour and a half late. Then, they claimed I needed new wiper blades but I had just changed them three days before. When I told them, they said, “oh yeah, you’re right.” The next day after the oil change, my car began and is still (now months later) making weird noises when I drive between 30-60mph. Lastly, I made an appointment for an oil change today at 9. They told me they were busy and wouldn’t be able to start service for about 2 hours. I pretty much returned today to ask what they had done to my car last time. I left and went to Mr. Tire and they are awesome and honest and helped me right away.

Took my vehicle in for an oil change at Pep Boys in Bartlett, Tn. Was told that it would be about an hour. At the 2-hour Mark I asked for my keys so I can leave and get to work. I was then told that it wouldn't be too much longer so I stayed. 20 minutes later I asked for the keys again and was told the oil pan screw had been stripped and I would have to get another which was on the way from the parts store. At this point it's pretty clear they're trying to keep me here for whatever reason. I watch the truck pull up with the part and 30 to 40 minutes later I was out.

Fast forward 2 weeks and my oil gauge is on empty. This is odd since I just got the oil changed. I don't see any oil stains in the driveway but I know previously oil was being burned quickly but not lost. So I take it back to pep boys and ask them to check it out because they were the last ones to touch it. they said it will be $45 to do a different kind of test involving oil pressure and things like that so I just left it with them to look at.

When I picked it up I was told that the pressure sensor and a couple other parts needed to be replaced to solve the issue of the low gauge and burning of oil. I declined the service to shop around a bit. Fast forward about a week and a half. I'm noticing oil stains in the driveway now which weren't there before. In addition to that, there's also a coolant leak from somewhere that wasn't there before.

Instead of taking it back to them I took it to a Jiffy Lube and had them look at it. The technician literally yelled "whoa!" From under my car. She explained to me that in addition to the oil filter being extremely loose, the oil pan gasket was loose as well as something else. They couldn't find where the coolant was coming from though. I called the store and spoke to Jimmy (Manager) and let him know what was going on and he actually tried to get me to bring it in. Told him I would not be coming back.

Sorry for the book but just had to be as detailed as possible to let people know to not take your car here! Either they are grossly incompetent or they're creating problems as they go to get more money. Either way you don't want this headache. Go somewhere else.

I bought four tires from Everett, MA store. The clerk, Andrew, said he couldn't find my tires, so he started to a marketing pitch for a more expensive one. When I said I am going to buy from somewhere else, he miraculously found the tires. In fact they were just in front of us all this time. :-) I said fine, the usual stuff. They started to work on my car. Then, Andrew said one of my pressure sensors was not working and they needed to replace it for $90. There was absolutely no problem with it before I came to the store. I said just put the old one. He said he can't, if I didn't want to buy a new sensor, then I needed to call a tow truck and get my car from the store. I said, "WTH, ok put a new sensor."

They finished the work but my pressure sensor was on. Andrew said it will turn off by itself by the time I go home. It didn't. Next day I took the car back to the store for the light issue. They did some stuff and it turned off. But the day after that it turned on by itself again. By the way, the tire pressures were fine. That happened three more times and each time I took the car back to the store, waited a couple of hours, they "fixed" it, and the next day the light was on again. No explanation why it was happening neither. Now I have 4 new tires and a car with a pressure light always on. I could have gotten the same tires from another store with the same price. Pep Boys has at some point decided to change their business model and stop selling parts and only have service centers. That in itself doesn't warrant a poor review, who knows why they did this but probably something about not making enough money at parts. At any rate I have been buying parts elsewhere lately, lots of options, but I am sad to see that happen since they were often the best deal. What makes me mad is I had a failed hub bearing that was lifetime warrantied, that I had purchased from Pep boys a few years ago. Tried to get that replaced and after half an hour of getting transferred around, finally ended up on a customer service line that was barely understandable due to their person barely speaking English and the connection being so poor.

They explained the process to get the part warrantied is to reply to an email they sent providing details (including they want the original SKU on the box not just the receipt) and then I can mail it in, they will evaluate it and some time in the next month, if they deem it bad they will send me a new one. Provided everything is done correctly, meanwhile my vehicle can sit and wait for the part. Clearly this is an effort to make it so difficult that no one goes through the effort. I think I would prefer they at least had just started with telling me they have no intention of honoring their commitments. At any rate I will never use them again for anything and if this is how they run their business I strongly suggest you move on to use O’Reilly or Autozone or someone else who at least backs up what they sell.

As a tire and repair shop each mechanic should know these values and not to mention Pep Boys is a well known name, your job as a mechanic represents both, my front should have been set at 36 and rear at 33. My front was set at 30. Rear no issues. The last thing a person wants to do is drive to a gas station after paying $88.40 to adjust tire pressure, this never happened to me in my home town!

    Hello friends,

I did not get anywhere with Pep Boys Corporation regarding my complaints of the local store so I wanted to make you all aware. I been going to this location ever since I starting purchasing a vehicle. Buyer beware! Re: 1000 Columbus Blvd Philadelphia Pa 19148. I thought you should be aware of your corporate store's poor performance! I brought my vehicle twice to Pep Boys for a rear driver side suspension clanking noise when hitting bumps. I had an early appointment. I was told the vehicle would be needed all day. Never have I had to wait all day (until 5 pm) especially with an appointment early in the morning at opening. Both times head mechanics could not diagnosis a problem with the suspension. Even after taking a test drive with one mechanic and hearing the noise.

I had no choice but to take the vehicle to the dealership and within one hour diagnosed the problem, had me a look at the current alignment, which was 3 degrees off, gave me a cost to repair and a repair time. I was given a loaner by the dealership because my vehicle was unsafe to drive. The parts needed to be ordered. Upper control arm, left lateral arm and a new dampener/shock. Not only that but the first time they parked my vehicle in a handicap parking spot. Ticket tow area? The second time I also ordered a new tire and during the install my rim was scratched, and left with plenty of tire lube and never wiped off. Unacceptable!

Last year, I had an oil change service and they did not tighten the nut, the next day I drove my car to my job in King of Prussia and while I was at work the oil leaked out and I had to have my car towed back to Philly for them to service the vehicle. I was reimbursed however these issues are mounting up at this location and definitely needs to be overseen by someone in the corporation. I recently traded in my vehicle, and the Carfax indicated the last time my vehicle was serviced they recorded my mileage 30,000 miles less than what it was supposed to be. Be warned, this location is bad news. Sorry if you work there. But, I tried to make Corporate aware of these things directly and got nowhere.

Let me start off by saying my daughter's car is currently sitting at the Pep Boys location in Clayton since it was towed there 5 weeks ago with no resolution to the problem. In October of 2019 we had my daughter's car towed to Pep Boys in Clayton. We were current customers and entrusted them with repairing my issues. I was it was the radiator and agreed to the $1,690 repair. While working on the radiator they damaged the engine. Due to their error the store paid for an engine. It took them over a month to fix while leaving the burden on me to figure out transportation.

Since 11/2019 we have returned to Pep Boys at least 8 times with issues related to the engine. I even took it to other mechanics who always referred me back to Pep Boys since it was their error with the engine. In May of 2021 the car just died and I had it towed to another mechanic since I had little faith in the Pep Boys in Clayton. The owner of the automotive place stated the engine was dead and there was not one drop of oil. We just had the oil changed the end of January and NC inspection the end of April (which they were supposed to do an oil change with inspection which they didn't). Maybe the oil was due to be changed but it shouldn’t have had no oil in there. There is no oil on my driveway.

I contacted corporate office after the other mechanic advised about the engine and opened a case. I called 5 different times over no one returning my calls and finally Eric at the local Pep Boys called me. He seemed to be nice but cannot stick to his word with calling back or giving me an estimate on a replacement engine. His boss agreed to pay half for a replacement engine and Eric advised over 10 days ago he would call me with numbers. Still no call, 5 weeks later since towed and no estimates as my daughter's car sits at the store.

I am amazed how I went in for a radiator and had a bad engine put in and somehow this has become my issue mentally and financially to deal with when I had good faith they would replace my radiator and not create a year and half worth of issues for me. Keep in mind every time we dropped it off over the last year and half the car would be there on a average of 3 days to repair. Of course that manager is no longer there and he never charged us for those issues or log into your system.

Either way the engine was bad that was put in, I didn’t ask for an engine and now no one is ethical or understanding to call me back to even resolve the issue. I have already made a complaint to Better Business about this and next will be the NC Consumer Affairs. I feel as a female and consumer they are taking advantage of me and I will not tolerate this. Emotionally this has worn me down but I will not allow this treatment to happen to others. It’s a shame how fast reputation can be affected over one issue that could have been resolved with returning calls and showing me some respect.

It's running perfectly. We even drove it with all the lug nuts off and it didn't shake." My wife started to tell him she drove it, she felt it and I did too as I was in the car with her. He cut her off mid sentence and said, "Take your car and leave or I will physically remove you from the premises." That is a threat of assault. I contacted 2 levels of management above Roy, Jermaine ** area manager and Thom ** and they claimed to be upset by his conduct yet did nothing to correct it. After a week of being totally ignored I contacted human resources.

I got the same reaction "oh I'm so sorry we don't allow that behavior and I'll see that it's addressed." Wait another week and call back for an update and they said "send Jermain ** the direct supervisor of Roy the invoice from getting the gas cap fixed and we will pay it." I asked what action would be taken considering they told me to take the invoice to the area manager that should have at the very least been suspended. Their response was, "We taken all the action we are going to." So I asked point blank "is it your company policy to allow your store managers to threaten customers?" To that they said the same thing, I pressed and they said that is the answer.

And the last part. They flat out said every employee of Pep Boys will be directed never to service your vehicles again. I utilized Pep Boys for an oil change in response to email coupon of 30% off, free tire rotation and tire pressure, free wheel alignment check/inspection and free vehicle inspection. I was told that the reservation was for a different store but he could take me here. I asked if he would contact the store or should I and let me know that I was dropping car off at store #376 instead and was told, “Don’t worry about it.” Turns out he never contacted the store and they are sending me communication about missed appointment and rescheduling.

He then told me I would be called when the car was ready but I didn’t receive any document/receipt, etc., showing services that would be rendered, typical of car repair/maintenance shops. I reiterated the above and he gave me back the coupon with all the services in the coupon and said, “Yes, yes, everything will be done.”

When I received the call that the car was ready (by the same person who took my keys), I asked if everything was done and was told yes. I asked if anything was amiss or noted and he said, “I’ll ask.” This raised a red flag because why would he have to ask when he should be able to look at the check list document and see what fluids were refilled, what the wheel alignment measurements were (and whether they were within specs) and the list of checked off inspections done (battery, brakes, etc.) with any issues stated.

He came back on the phone and said everything was fine. I inquired as to why he had to ask instead of looking at the sheet? I asked about the vehicle alignment? He said that if anything was wrong, they would have told him. I reiterated that there should be a checklist proving what was checked, that there should be measurements for wheel alignment check as this is not eyeballed as okay. I said I wanted that checklist so I know what was checked.

He said, they check the brakes. I said, “Is that all?” He replied, no, they check other things. I said I wanted the list of things checked. I said if I brought the car in without the oil change and paid for the vehicle inspection, what would I be paying for? And how did the wheel alignment get checked? He then rudely asked if I was having any problems with the car? I said that had nothing to do with the list of items checked or my current concerns. A vehicle inspection should be as thorough whether there are issues or not. He said, “YOUR CAR IS READY, COME GET IT.” And HUNG UP ON ME!

I contacted PepBoys corporate who informed me that there is a checklist and documentation should have been provided for everything. They contacted the store and wanted to speak to the store manager but he was unavailable. I was told that a priority message was sent that documentation be provided when I pick up the car and that the store manager would get back to me shortly.

I picked up the car. No documentation of vehicle inspection or wheel alignment check provided which is the reason I went to Pep Boys instead of Tires Plus a block away. The receipt contains the info required for the rebate form, so I was told! Only 2 of the 4 requirements, are on the receipt given! Which they are aware of. The intent on not paying a rebate created by the former company is obvious. I guess purchasing auto parts and supplies from PepBoys for over 30 years, does not mean a whole lot, in this day and age of no accountability!

Had the Pep Boys in Tulsa, OK. (6714 S. Memorial) them replace the rear brakes and rotors on my Chevy pickup truck end of October 2020. Spent approx $340.00. Brought back a couple weeks later advised them that brakes don't feel right. They inspected and said all OK. Shortly thereafter brakes began to go metal against metal. Brought back in and advised that a caliper froze and that I would have to spend another $800 to replace brakes, rotors and calipers. Had only put 700 miles on prior new brakes. He said caliper pin froze, I would argue that they were installed incorrectly. Have never had this type of issue when replacing brakes in past. When I inquired to manager of who to call to address he advised that they will most likely tell me the same thing he was telling me ("nothing I can do").

Sent note to Customer service via their website but have received no response. Wife sent letter to CEO and response was one sentence; "Did you contact the location?". Shocking! Now forced to send review to let others know to avoid this business. The few $ they would save to fix my problem will most likely cost them tenfold plus in future business. For example, while we have been dealing with this, my daughter's car needed two tires replaced. Rather than go to Pep Boys as I have done in past I spent my money elsewhere.

Not a very good business decision. "Save a penny, lose a dollar'. Efforts to resolve and/or even talk with someone in Customer Service included completing request to contact on their website, contacting via phone and even filing a Google review. All to no avail. Shocking lack of customer service. Please stay away from this company.

Found my receipt but Pepboys' ink on their receipts fades after a few months- tried to locate it in store "via their system" which was "down"... Since I had purchased the "labor guarantee" I returned the car to Pep Boys. They had the car for two entire days, only to tell me that they had been "messing around with the car all day" to try and determine the issue. Then they gave me another estimate of $1,240 for more work that would "fix the problems." I had just done that four days and 15 miles ago. I feel totally ripped off and robbed of $800.00. As a senior on a tight budget, Pep Boys has managed to hold my car hostage, bleed me for money, and leave me with no transportation.

I set out to buy 2 new tires for my Nissan Altima. The price of the tires themselves was comparable to other places. That is the one good thing I can say about my experience at Pep Boys, the rest was disappointing at best. I brought my vehicle to get two new tires, as the ones on the rear had been replaced two months ago. I wanted the front tires replaced then rotated to the rear. 20 minutes into my vehicle being in the garage, an attendant comes out and informs me that 2 bolts were stuck, and if they broke it would be $100 plus tax (parts and labour) each to replace the broken studs.

I have replaced studs on a car before, and those bolts are only $5-$10 apiece, so I was looking at up to $180 for labor. I asked where the offending bolts were located, thinking that if the stuck bolts were just on the back then I would just skip the rotation and simply replace the front tires as planned. I was told no, there was one bolt on the front tire, and one on the back. Which essentially ensured that I would be on the hook for at least $100 extra. When I stated that I could do the repair on my own, they told me no, that it was a liability issue and the only way I could leave the premises with even one broken stud would be via tow truck.

While I understand the liability thing I still didn't have potentially $200 dollars extra to risk. I told them never mind about installing them, just place the 2 new tires in the trunk and I will go to the place that installed the tires last time to check and see if there was indeed an issue. It then took 20 additional minutes for me to get my car back, which seemed like a long time to place two tires into a trunk and drive it out of the garage, especially since there was only one other customer ahead of me at the time.

When I arrived at my usual tire place, I explained to them the situation the associates at Pep Boys said my tires were in. They allowed me to watch from the window as they attempted to remove the bolts. All of the bolts, repeat ALL OF THE BOLTS, came off with no issues whatsoever. I can't help but feel this was a tactic they use to bilk extra money out of people. Given their customer base, they should be ashamed of themselves. As I'm concerned, they tried to rip me off over double what my original bill was to be.

Oh and also, they were going to charge me double for mounting and balancing that my place did. Also, when I attempted to post this review on their website, I received an email saying that I was not to mention customer service in my review. So I have decided to post this review wherever they don't try to obscure an honest review. In conclusion if you want to be lied to and ripped off, by all means please go to Pep Boys. I also requested that they do a suspension inspection and grease the chassis. Approximately between 30-45 minutes later, I was told by ** and the mechanic who inspected my car (**.) that no problems were found and everything looked good. However, ** added, “We recommend you get a more in-depth inspection of the Cooling System. He said this would cost $87.

I told ** I did not need the extra service. ** then chimed in saying, "The Front Ball Joints were bad, and your tires are dry and rotting". I informed him that the Ball Joints were just replaced 5 months ago at a North Side Midas. The tires are less than 4 years old. I added, "After washing my car twice a week, I spray the tires with Armor All Tire Foam. This keeps the tires clean, hydrated, and shiny". ** then told me he would “ring me up” and my car would be ready in a few minutes.

As I walked towards my car, I noticed two Pep Boys Mechanics standing at the Service Garage Opening watching me. I opened the trunk to get a spray disinfect and a rag to thoroughly wipe down all the interior areas that the mechanic may have touched. As I turned the car on and began to back out of the parking space, the brake peddle went all the way to the floor. I got out of my car, and I noticed a puddle of fresh brake fluid on the ground right where my car was parked. I also noticed a tiny trail of brake fluid leading all the way back into the Pep Boys Service Garage. I HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES PRIOR TO MY VISIT!!

** (manager) told me that he thinks the brake line burst came as I attempted to leave out the parking lot. I asked, “How do you explain the trail of Brake Fluid from my car leading back into the Garage?” Charles said nothing. I purchased a battery for my 2016 Mazda3 (68k miles) from PepBoys (1685 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta, GA) and it was replaced there. Before changing battery, they said they need to do a test to make sure the problem is caused by the old battery, which they charged $15.99 for that. The consensus was that the battery was bad and they replaced it for around $139.69. Also, my old battery was 4 years old and never need a replacement until that day, which is expected for 4 years old battery.

After PepBoys put their battery, I frequently (everyday) used my car for 20-25 days. After that I had to park my car for 6 days since I didn't need the car. After this 6 day period when I needed my car, the battery hardly started the car. However, I was able to drive once it is started. Also, the next day (since the battery was charged from alternator) I was able to drive again without any problem. Then, I didn't use my car for 7 days due to COVID19 problem. After 7 days of rest, the battery was fully empty this time. Even my car's key was not working. I had to do jump-start. After jump-start I drove my car a bit to charge the battery and I was able to bring the car to PepBoys the next day. I was expecting them to change the faulty battery since it has warranty and it hasn't been even 50 days after the purchase.

When I brought it in, they again did a test to see if it is the battery (as before). This time they came up with a problem not related to battery in order not to change their faulty battery! They said the alternator needs to be changed and it will cost me $600-700! I didn't want them to change the alternator and went to another mechanic. That guy tested my alternator and said there is no problem. He even showed me the tool (I believe voltmeter) showing that it is in the green (OK) part. He said it should be the battery itself and replaced my battery. The new battery solved my problem. Initially, I wanted PepBoys to change my battery with a new one from warranty, but they tried to put it on me to not change it! Be careful when you buy stuff under warranty from PepBoys. They will try to trick you in order not to lose their money! Very unreliable service! I wanted people to know the status before going to PepBoys.

Excellent job, on-time, and did the job for what they quoted. And on top of that, they removed a dead rat from the engine. Above and beyond! Will be going back for the excellent service. Listened to my requests.

I had great service. It took longer than expected but everyone was nice and didnt try and pressure me into getting unnecessary things fixed. The staff was friendly and answered all my questions. The price was reasonable as well.

Made an appointment online and took my car in for State Inspection, oil change and brake pad replacement. They took the car in on time and it was serviced in a reasonably quick time. The waiting room was clean and comfortable, nothing fancy and had coffee or tea available. The work performed was quite good and I should say, I am a happy repeat customer here.
