Went to PB Jimmy Carter for oil change, before the day's end, I could not shift gears in my 5-speed at all. So, I demanded that they tow the car back to the shop and determine if they'd drained out the transaxle fluid or punctured something "by mistake," a practice which PB has been suspected of, along with the company lying about what need in order to upcharge or bait and switch. (Online reviews are so bad that PBs is undergoing a name change.) Regardless, the 1790 mgr. Ricardo, spoke to his mgr, Jeff, and they agreed to pay to Tow the car back in. They attempted to then show me proof that they'd made no error.

Before this though, Ricardo claimed to have told me about a leak. That was my 4th conversation with the shop, after the oil change. That was ABSOLUTELY untrue. What is true, according to a mechanic I trust, is that the leak my guy found today in the slave cylinder was probably not caused by PB. My guy (Harris at Lilvurn Chevron) can't see a connection and HIM, I believe. So, since PB gave permission and paid to tow me to a transmission specialist (I chose a set of mechanics I have known forever vs. AAMCO). The fix is a $300 fix, and while I can't help wondering about such a coincidence and I will not return to PB, I believe that their mechanic, Alex, did not create the leak, especially since PB had nothing to gain as they do not do transmission repairs. I will apologize.

When I arrived for my appointment, service rep Brian stated that they do not have it. After I provided my tracking #** he located it but it was alleged canceled. I never canceled my appointment. Brian stated he could not accommodate me because they are overbooked. I complained to Pep Boys complaint department. Several days later, a regional manager contacted me by phone. All I received was excuses about their computer issues and not enough technicians. He apologized but NEVER CORRECTED the day I lost. I will never go to a Pep Boys again!!! To think I was a lifelong friend and rewards card member for decades. Shame on PEP BOYS INCORPORATED. APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED.

I ordered a tow hitch online from Pep Boys. I sold the vehicle before it arrived. It was no problem to send it back. But, getting the refund is like pulling teeth!! It has been two weeks and I still haven't been refunded for the part. I called them and they told me three business days not counting weekends. It’s been past the three business days so I called them. They said I should have it by the end of the day... two days later still no refund!! So I call them again... they said 5-7 business days. Well it’s past that and still no refund... I'm still waiting for the refund. I gave up calling them. It does no good at all... I will never buy anything from Pep Boys ever again!!

I used Pep Boys services for 3 times. Last time I went to get oil change, brakes checked and to make diagnostics for check engine light. It took 1 hour to give me the results and not even change the oil. He came with a bill of almost 1 thousand dollars to change my brakes pads and rotors, filters, fuel cap and change the oil. I refused the brake service. Changed the oil, fuel cap and filters. It took 3.5 hours to get it done despite my requests to have it done in a manner time. At the end, my car had the seat completely dirt with hand marks. I complained, they cleaned.

When I left the store I noticed the check engine light was still on. I had to go back for them to reset it. They said it was the fuel cap. I went to Brakes Plus, they said my brakes pads had 80% remaining yet. Unbelievable Pep Boys was trying to get my money. I re-changed the fuel cap to the old one, and it worked fine. Possibly it was loose after putting gas and the light went on. On Pep Boys they didn't check but recommended me to buy their fuel cap to solve the problem. Why would you lie so much to get some money? I was making all my services on Pep Boys, they were my place to go. Now I cannot trust them anymore.

Lafayette Road Location Indianapolis - Liars and Cheats. This location has a service manager - Dave who is all about jacking up your bill. I purchased a battery from them 4 years ago with a warranty. My car would not start, I called Triple A. They ran a scan - charging system fine (alternator) while battery bad. I drove straight to Pep Boys due to the fact I had a battery warranty with the old manager - who was decent. Mind you I also had my rotors and breaks replaced *500.00, in September 16. They made a noise and had to be replaced in January 2017 then AGAIN! March 2017. They just replaced them again last week (June 17th). All replacements at no cost to me.

But this last round of replacement a new manager Dave tried to make me pay for the rear ones that needed to be replaced. He stated that these ones have "hot spots" and it was how I drive. I only put 302 miles since the last annoying 3rd no charge replacement in March. They finally agreed to cover them - however my battery dies a week later. I knew I had a warranty and since (thank GOD) Triple A did a scan that DAY, I knew it was a battery issue. Dave tells me it was my alternator and would cost over $350.00 - Apparently trying to make up the loss for Pep Boys after market crap rotors and brake pads that had top be replaced 3 times at their cost! Dave had a print out of their "scan" for my electrical system, the graphs show that my charging system (Alternator) is fine - battery weak - but they had typed in at that bottom the opposite.

I found what the graphs meant when I took it to my dealer and he explained what they meant and showed. My battery was the issue. Terminal connectors has corrosion on them as well as the battery tested as weak. I can not use my warranty on my existing battery as I can't trust Pep Boys, I even told Dave when I went in that I did not want to pay for a scan - which I did not pay for - yet he did it only to try and screw me out of $400.00. I also am having to have the dealer check my rotors and breaks. I have also called a lawyer friend and will be filing a small claims suit. NEVER EVER go to this location. I wonder now if all Pep Boys are cheats now.

Upon paying the bill, I discover some charges I was unaware of: a. A $40 Lifetime Limited Warranty had been added to the alternator without my knowledge/consent, b. A $31.52 Limited Extended Labor Warranty had been added to the cost of installing the alternator without my consent/knowledge. I go back to the service center to get my money back from the warranties I didn’t want. And here’s what I was told: a. The $40 is included in the cost of the alternator but it’s just expensed out on the bill. Sounds reasonable at first, but that makes the alternator $354.63. If this is the case, why was I quoted $314.63? b. The $31.52 is included in the cost of labor… it’s not expensed that way on the bill.

I question the manager further about this and he admits that it’s not part of the labor. He tells me that he can’t take that warranty off the ticket because the ticket has already been closed… proceeds to offer me two crappy oil change vouchers. And here’s the worst part: The part number is listed on the bill so I went to pepboys.com and looked up that part. On their very own website, the EXACT same alternator is listed as $202.99 with the Lifetime Limited Warranty INCLUDED. I was quoted and charged $314.63 for the alternator plus $40 for the warranty. I question the outrageous discrepancy about the price of the alternator. I was told that he could do nothing about this and that the price on pepboys.com is the “DIY” price; apparently having the service center provide it (FROM THEIR OWN STORE) costs an upcharge of what appears to be $150.

On April 15th I was on my way to Home Depot when I notice that the ABS light was on my truck (2002 trailblazer) so I stopped at Pep Boys which was in my way to ask someone there to do a diagnostic on what might have cause this light to come on. While I waited I noticed that a gentleman in the working area was taking off the tires of my truck so I went over to ask him why is he taking off my tires as I am not here to do any work on my truck. He claim that he had to go in through the tire to see where the problem was.

After about an hour and a half this guy whom I spoke to when I first came in, which was about 10:10 am had this long list of what the truck needed. I said to him, "Sir, as I said before I'm not here to do any work of such now, just let me know about the ABS light". He said he thinks a bulb was blown and he replaced it for 135.00 along with the diagnostic which I paid. He then told me the truck was ready. This is where the nightmare started.

I took the keys, went in the truck to drive it and instead of the 1 ABS light I now see 3 lights, service engine soon and low power engine. The truck had no power to drive! I went back inside to ask if when he brought out the truck he didn't see that the truck could not drive. Those workers broke my truck, the computer and anything else that could go wrong, and had the audacity to tell me they did not do anything to the truck. I stayed home for a whole week, could not go to work as I was literally trapped at home. I stayed all day until 8:30 pm and had to beg a ride to go home as they had my truck for a whole week with every day promises.

I ended up paying almost 800.00 for a damage I did not cause and the ABS light is still on, never got fixed. As a consumer how do you as a company see the injustice that was done by people who you employ that has no clue how to diagnose a simple light! I would like to be fully compensated for every penny I spent in your business! There is something really wrong going on here, so many people with similar complaints, no good at all! That is the worst experience I've ever had in my 62 years of life! "Your mission statement is People taking care of people and their cars".

The service man told me I can not get free tire rotation with conventional oil change and can get it only with synthetic oil change. Total disaster, I was quoted one price over the phone and when I selected tires and signed form to start purchase of tires and alignment. My friend who ordered the same exact tires and service two hours after me plus 5 other patrons all were complaining at the end of the day when all the cars seem to be ready at once. We were charged almost $200 more than quoted. After arriving home one wheel cover was missing. Another came off when I lighted tug at it with no effort at all on my part.

I just purchased new wheel covers at a large cost to me. There was black smudges everywhere with no consideration to trying to customers clean up afterwards. My car didn't feel like it was aligned correctly. I am going to have to bring it to a new mechanic to correct the mess and buy new wheel covers. All the patrons were left with one employee who acted as if he didn't know what happened as he only said "I didn't write up the receipt". It was a total scam job. The Pep Boys located in N. Ordered an Accordion Sunshade for $40 online about one month ago and I love, love it. EXCEPT... the piece that connects to the window (even bought some gorilla tape for high temperatures) has since fallen off and I cannot locate it anywhere. I called the store in SLC, UT and they were not able to replace the shade unless I brought it into the store, which is a 5-hour drive one way. They refused to send me the little plastic part on its own. Completely unsatisfactory. So I am left to my own accord to fabricate something to connect the now useless shade that is stuck to the right side of my window. Yea Pep Boys.

I rented a car, he called me 2 days later and said the engine had a cracked head or possibly a cracked block. THE BILL WAS $799... He said they do not repair that problem, but, he has a buddy in Robertsdale, Alabama that can fix the problem. Not feeling good about his recommendations, I hired a tow truck to haul the car back home ($490) Chrysler/Jeep dealership. The service manager said he will address the problem ASAP. The next DAY he called me to tell me the Jeep is ready to pick up. I pick up the Jeep, with NO CHARGE to find that PEP BOYS FORGOT TO BLEED THE AIR OUT OF THE COOLING SYSTEM. I did address this with Pep Boys and have not received a call from the corporate office. STAY AWAY, YOU WILL BE SORRY.

I was referred to Pep Boys and expected to receive good service. I pulled in, told and showed the mechanic a hose that my son replaced just so I could make it to the shop. The truck was overheating (probably because the hose was busted). I received a phone call stating that I needed a thermostat $300. Within a month, my truck overheated again and was towed back to the same location. I receive a call that my hose need replacing $600+.

Well, I don't believe I needed a thermostat in the first place. I do not appreciate the mechanics ignoring my first visit, clearly they did since they did not replace the hose when I asked them to. I feel being a woman, they are taking advantage of and ignoring me. I truly believe I did not need a thermostat and if they had replaced the hose like I asked, I would not have had to return. Now, I can't get through to corporate to have them waive the cost of the thermostat, that I clearly DID NOT NEED. I am disappointed with the Pep Boys Organization. It's 4 months and they still ignore my claim. I have continuously called and texted the district mgr who blames the corporate offices for the delays. I JUST WANT MY CAR BACK THE WAY IT WAS, NO DAMAGE ON THE WHEELS! They don't care about their customers, I think it's time to go to court since this car was spotless and has been parked waiting to get the wheels refinished. Why should I pay to fix something that they did? They just want your money and won't stand behind their work.

I had the battery replaced, under warranty, on my 2000 Chevy S10 and was charged $9.99 (non-optional) for BATTERY PROTECTION SERVICE, which should have included: 1. Chemically cleaning of terminal ends. 2. Installing acid neutralizing washers. 3. Applying protective coating. Unfortunately, none of the above was done. Very disappointed! I was also charged @10.80 for ADDITIONAL ACCESS TIME (BATTERY INSTALLATION SERVICE), which should have included, in addition to removal and recycling the old battery and installation of the new battery: 1. Inspection and cleaning tray and terminals. 2. Memory saver device. 3. Complete starting and charging system evaluation.

Unfortunately, none of the above was done: the tray and terminals are still dirty, the head unit lost all memories and no any kind of evaluation of starting/charging of the systems was done. The only thing the technician did was removed the old battery and installed the new one. The entire process literally took a couple of minutes only, while I was standing a few feet away and watching. Again, I'm very dissatisfied. I have experienced very similar situation a few years ago at different Pep Boys location. The only reason came back to Pep Boys, because the battery was still under warranty for full replacement.

I also talked to an online "Chat " rep who quoted me the price of $129 for this service and also confirmed a 10 am appointment at the store for me. I drove from Alvin to Pasadena but when I got there I was advised that they had the machine but not the fittings to connect to my transmission. He explained that he had requested those from management more than once, to no avail.

Then they proceeded to call several other Houston area stores (some would have been over an hours drive for me) and he got answers that ranged between, "Can't get to him today," "We don't have the fittings either," "Our machine is broke," "We don't do transmission service," and other excuses that made it impossible to get my car serviced today. So as it is, I'm out 2 hours time, $15 in gasoline, extremely frustrated, and my car still needs servicing. What are you going to do to make this experience right for me, because anything short of getting the fittings to the Pasadena store (in a timely manner) and probably servicing my transmission now for free, is going to earn you a scathing online review. I expect a prompt response. Thank you.

He was able to see that when they changed the filter they left all the crap from the old filter fall and that clogged my vents. All they did was clean it out, they did a half-** job and I will never go there again. I called customer relations to complain. They took my information told me I would hear something from a manager within 48 hours. Guess what? It's been a week and a half. I have yet to hear anything. The worst customer service available.

On Tuesday, February 7, I ordered 4 tires (buy 3, get one free) and scheduled the install at your franchise at 3207 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE total-$246.80. When I got there Saturday morning for my online Confirmed appointment, I was told by the cashier that they don’t carry that tire anymore, haven’t for some time, and can’t get it. No one bothered to look at the order after it was confirmed to let me know this between Tuesday and Saturday? When I asked what comparable tires they had, she tried a bait and switch for tires that were close to twice the cost of my original order.

I asked if she would honor the original confirmed quote, since it was obviously their fault, she said no and that I should take it up with corporate. She was not even remotely willing to help in any way. Don't ever use this location to have work done on your car. Finally someone got it right. Offered me a $10 gift card for the frustration. Said it would be in the following Monday so I waited for my order to pick up at the store. The following Monday only half the order is and no gift card came so I called back to order the rest of the order -- rear struts and coil springs. The gift card would be sent another week later so in between all this time I'm missing my mechanic. My car is not getting repaired. This has been the worst nightmare of my life! They told me not to drive my car home because it was dangerous. The engine had major problems. However, they would need another day to figure out what was wrong. So, I took my car home anyway, bought the plugs myself for $1.50 each and ended up doing it myself. Now my engine runs fine. Does the franchise instruct the service department to say whatever to reach their monthly goals? Pep Boys is good for DYI parts and an oil change only. Beware of their service department. I had to pay $350.00 for a rental car, they refused to provide transportation to me even though their service failed! Went to pick it up and car made noise I never heard before! Didn't even get it out of parking lot. Said I have a power steering problem which they never told me about. They said they were "focused on the radiator". I never had a power steering leak or problem until driving in their parking lot! Again NOT their responsibility!! I had to go back and get the rental car I just turned in.

Only when my brother who is in the business pushed on them did they discount the labor for a discount. So another $275 out for me. Now I find a bottle of antifreeze dumped in the second seat, when I finally get my car back, that bottle was standing up when I gave them a car. I had my 2002 Chevy S10 towed to this location as suggested by my insurance company (since they were the one towing it for me) because the truck would not start. They replaced the distributor cap, rotor, and did a tune up, claiming that everything had been fixed. The next day I replace my oil. Under the hood I found a screwdriver and magnet pen resting on the distributor. As I start the truck up and look inside, a plume of smoke appears near the distributor and a loud clacking noise. I bring the truck back in a second time and they tell me now it is the distributor itself. I come in after the distributor has been replaced. Upon starting my truck, I notice the check engine light is on. This meant I had to leave the truck there a third time.

All in all, my truck was being worked on for 6 days. Wed-Fri 1st time, Sat-Mon 2nd time, Mon-Tues 3rd time. Now I know my vehicle is old and diagnosing problems can be difficult. I am not upset that I paid over $1000 for the work they did. What I am upset about is that they did not make sure my truck was working properly both times. You figure black smoke and a loud noise from the engine would indicate that everything is not okay. You would also think not to leave your tools inside a person's vehicle. You might assume that a person would see the check engine light on and think to further investigate the problem.

I guess this is how they do business because they honestly did not see any of the issues I brought up as being anything to apologize for. There's a difference between doing Good work and doing fast work. They apparently choose the latter. I would rather have my vehicle be somewhere longer as opposed to have to dick around with going back and forth over a week time.

I took my Nissan 350Z to have an oil change at Pep Boys. The technician tells me that I should replace the valve cover gaskets because they are leaking. I authorize them to replace both valve cover gaskets on that 3.5 liter engine. I left my car with them for 2 days. They called me up and said it's ready for pickup. I went to pick it up and paid close to $800 for this repair. I got in my car, started it and began to leave the parking lot and the engine feels like it's running on 2 cylinders. So I turn around because I only got 50 feet from the shop and talk to the manager explaining the problem. He agreed that it was not running like this when I brought it in and they were going to have their top Tech work on it for me.

7 days passed and they call me to come get it. Needless to say it was doing the same issue. So I left it with them again. 6 days later they say it's ready. So I have the manager get in my car and started and take a test drive with me. Didn't even get the seat belt on and it felt like it was still running on 2 cylinders. After several hours of debating they refunded my entire amount that I paid. I asked "who's going to fix my car now? It was not like this before they performed the repair!" I said. They proceeded to tell me "sorry we can't help you. Just be happy we gave your money back".

So I found a guy that specializes in these vehicles and had it towed to his shop. Upon inspection he called me and told me that there were four snapped bolts in the valve cover and missing about 8 bolts that hold all the vacuum lines and accessories and wire routing. He then discovered that Pep Boys missed plugged two of the coils in the wrong place! And the valve covers are leaking worse than before!

So long story short I end up paying $500 to fix Pep Boys mistakes! I will never set foot in another Pep Boys and I will never recommend to anybody to go there not even my worst enemy because he doesn't deserve it either! I was just beside myself on how the manager handled it and it became my problem because of their poor work quality and lack of knowledge and experience! Don't even let them put air in your tires! They will mess that up too! I believe their policy is to hire as many Down syndrome mechanics they can find. I apologize to the people with Down Syndrome. The repair was made but all kinds of further issues cropped up (tie rods. Wheel bearings. etc. etc.) as a result of the back bar not being screwed tight and then snapping altogether. An independent mechanic stated the car is unsafe to drive after this type of incident causing car to swerve left & right while driving instead of straight. Pep Boys refused to remedy the situation by paying for further repairs and/or paying for value of vehicle and subsequent damages. The driver or any other car on the road could have been killed as this was a serious negligence and safety issue. The car has been undrivable & parked for 2 + years awaiting Pep Boys to pay for all negligence and damages to date. Pep Boys employees do not communicate with its customers. Pep Boys has replaced several items on my car including front and back brakes that included new rear wheel cylinders... only six months ago. One of the rear cylinders locked up just two days ago and Pep Boys did not want to take responsibility. I was told they needed you reevaluate the work Pep Boys performed on my rear brakes. IF they were responsible I had to pay for the part as well as the re-evaluation. And pay for towing.

My latest experience was losing antifreeze. I was told by their "mechanic" I needed a new fan relay switch, a new thermostat, radiator flush and hoses... $500 My radiator is 6 months old and the radiator fan is still working. I refused the fan relay switch, radiator flush, and hoses. I allowed the new thermostat and of course the fresh antifreeze. They performed the radiator flush anyway and charged me. I did get a refund. So, for the thermostat, antifreeze, wrong "evaluation", and labor they charged me $198. PLUS, THEY LEFT A RADIATOR HOSE LOOSE. I personally will NOT use Pep Boys again... I broke down in a parking lot. My temperature gauge was halfway but my car started smoking. I turned it off, looked under hood and found coolant everywhere but there was still coolant in my tank. Went to get my phone from car. When I returned coolant tank was empty and coolant was on the ground. I contacted Pep Boys in Waterbury to get towed there. Waited an hour and a half to be told that I needed a thermostat & coolant fan, plus a coolant flush. Left car Friday picked up Sunday.

Monday morning when I started my car it shook like an earthquake. I went to check my oil and noticed there was no coolant in my tank. I filled the tank with coolant. I then noticed a keychain that held sentimental value to me was missing off my keys. While driving my car my thermostat would go halfway and once on highway or when heat was on it would stay in the cold position. No notification that my car was overheating. If I was in a standstill position the temp. gauge would go halfway. Temp. gauge never went to hot. I contacted the headquarters and made a complaint about the service I received, not being offered a rewards card with the amount of times I made purchases there and had a battery replaced and about my keychain being taken. While waiting for a callback about my complaint I kept an eye on my temp. gauge not indication that my car was overheating. The farthest the gauge went was halfway.

I went to get food with my son and while in a standstill I started to notice smoke coming out from under my hood by where the coolant tank was. I could not drive off the line so I threw the heat on when I was finally able to pull into a spot. I checked under the hood and noticed nothing wrong. The smoking had stopped once the heat went on. I finally got in touch with the district manager and explained about the service, stolen keychain and told him about the issues I was still having with my car. He told me he was going to have the service manager call me to set up a day to bring my car back in to re-diagnose it because it seems my car was misdiagnosed. That was on a Wednesday. Thursday I did not hear from anyone.

I called early Friday morning and was told the manager was suppose to be in an hour earlier, so I left a message and waited for a call. I called the next day at 10 am and was told that the manager took an early lunch and would be back in an hour. I called back an hour and 15 minutes later and was told that he tried calling me and left me a message. I had no missed call or any message. I brought my car in today and 2 1/2 hours later I had to be the one to call to find out what was going on with my car. I was told that I had a blown head gasket. I went in to talk to them and was told "yes you have a blown head gasket. Would you like to know how much it would cost to repair it." I immediately told them no because it was not going to cost me a damn thing because they misdiagnosed my car didn't fix the problem which lead to my head gasket blowing. I was told that they will talk to the manager tomorrow and get back to me.

I called the district manager and told him what was going on and was told that he will call the manager tomorrow to see if they were at fault. They are the ones at fault. They replaced a fan and thermostat, flushed the coolant and never filled up the tank. My car never shook like an earthquake before I took it in to get repaired. I am disgusted with Pep Boys and will never bring my cars or business there ever again. They need to fix the problem they caused.

When I called the store they stated that the part was not available where it was inventoried so it had to come from a different store which would incur an additional two days of delivery time. I was never advised of the inventory discrepancy and the order was not re-routed until I called and inquired about it. Time wasted.

Fast forward two days later and I receive a call from the store letting me know my order is ready. When I arrive at the store the following day, no one can find my order. It seems my part was sold to someone else requiring the same item and the store is offering no solution to my predicament. No apology, no resolution, no satisfaction. The Pep Boys employee I dealt with even went so far as to say to me "what do you want me to do about it". Case in point for additional training needed.

Pep Boys does not seem to hold their employees accountable for their representation of the company and it is apparent in their satisfaction ratings. All this has added up to much consternation and much wasted time which the Pep Boys employees could not care about in the least. My next course of action is to mail a certified letter of complaint as far up the corporate chain as possible after I present a copy to the store manager in person. If everyone did this, this corporation would be much more inclined to handle mishandlings at their individual stores.

I brought my vehicle into the shop today (2 Dec 16) for state inspection. Everything passed excepted the windshield wiper blades since the driver side blade left a "streak" on the windshield on the first wipe. I asked the manager to check the blades and he couldn't find a thing wrong with it but he stuck by his co-worker said. I then went to the AutoZone to purchase a new pair of blades. I returned to Pep Boys and the inspector failed me again even with the new set of blades due to the wipers leaving a "streak". Again I left for AutoZone to get a more expensive blades and the inspection passed the inspection on the third try.

I felt that Pep Boys was trying to push me to buy its products and that the inspector was looking for perfection. My eight-month, like-new windshield wipers and the brand new windshield wipers didn't pass. If you want to pass the state inspection, I suggest you take it elsewhere besides Pep Boys. I had a feeling about its mechanics trying to push their products before I entered the store. That gut feeling turned out to be right. I was working so my mom who is 70 went to have the tires mounted on the car with an appoint mentioned mind you... 4 hours later she finally came to pick me up at work. By this time it's dark. Next day I wake and I see the blue and white letters are still on the tires, the rim was filthy, and the mechanic's dirty fingerprints are all over my clean car, and my stem covers gone. At almost closing time, I called again and they said no one got to it and that it would be looked at in the morning. I won't hold my breath... sending a tow truck in the AM. Never again!!!

I bought a five years alignment and the same year on my second alignment they don't want to do it. The reason I want to get an alignment is that I swapped from summer tire to winter tire and raised my car about 1 1/2 inches higher off the ground. When I turned my car don't feel right and it pulled slightly to the right. So I brought my car in and Waited almost 3 hours because they were too busy. After roughly 3 hrs of waiting they told me my car don't need alignment. Great! Then started to explained about alignment just because they did an alignment a few months back on my car. I left Pep Boys when nothing done on my car. Never deal with Pep Boys again!

I have 3 different vehicles all of which have been serviced by the same Pep Boys location at West pike street in Lawrenceville Georgia. For the most part their service has been up to par in regards of servicing my vehicles. Hence the fact I've brought them back. However, the last time I've brought my Mercedes to this location for a replacement of a serpentine belt. They replaced it. Within a month it popped off. Weird because it didn't pop off the first time. It was just time to replace it. Nonetheless I called and they replaced it under the 3 year warranty. 2 months later it popped off again. I called yet again, had it towed up there yet again and four days later it was replaced and I picked it up.

On the drive home the vehicle ran hot, check engine light came on, multiple indicators popped up on the dashboard. I had to return back to work as MOST of us do, so I had my father call to get the vehicle looked at (a senior citizen and a war veteran). My father immediately called me back and told me the individual named Tyler with no last name began to tell him "bring it back. We won't drop you off. We will get it looked at. We don't have any techs available for at least an hour and a half and we don't know the price." in what my father felt was an absurdly disrespectful manner.

So when he arrived I asked to speak to Tyler. Which I then was reluctant to tell me more or less the same. "We can't get to it now. I already told you that and if you have a problem with that you're more than welcome to come see me etc." Whoa wait! Tyler just disrespected my father over the phone and in person and I feel as though he just threatened me over the phone. Over a car? Not to mention Tyler hung up with no resolve. My father never asked for a ride home (my father and I both live within 3 miles of this location. Not to mention have an additional 5 OTHER vehicles to drive.

I'm writing this because at this moment my vehicle that only needed a serpentine has caused me to miss 3 days of work, multiple headaches and now put my elderly father in a very uncomfortable situation. I regret to inform you that after this whole debacle I've yet to been able to reach a supervisor or any form of management. So to my last attempt I will write this to the corporate office, fix the vehicle at another service location and write as many letters it takes to tell everyone I know my experience.

I explained I didn't need the synthetic change (price difference of $40.00 more) that I needed the 5/30w and that is what I always have used in the last 3 years and explained that even when I got my oil changed from Nissan they used the 5/30W (showed her the paperwork from Nissan). She said "my computer won't let me put in the 5/30?

She then called her manager (Mario who was at home) and Mario said that I could go into the Pep Boys store and buy all of my own oil and filters and bring it to them and they would change the oil for another $25.00. What, you advertise oil changes don't you and I had an appointment and I had a coupon? So I said "you won't change my oil" and she said "I am sorry but the computer won't let me put in that type of oil for your make of car"!!! The Pep Boys in Coral Springs is worse than the DMV. The Pep Boys in Coral Springs is worse than Hell. The Pep Boys in Coral Springs is worse than the DMV in Hell. If I never had to return to this Pep Boys again, I wouldn't. But when I paid to have new parts put into my vehicle, and then they break after four months, I have to go back. In April I got a brand new alternator. Two days ago, the alternator broke. Okay, that's frustrating, I just got one from Pep Boys. I call out of my Tuesday shift at work to go to Pep Boys on Wednesday at 11 (I was early for my noon appointment), they said they would call me after they evaluated the car. I receive a call around 12:45 and they inform me that my battery won't hold a charge and they will call me when they switch it out. THREE hours later, I call THEM. "Oh, let me go check on that". Um, excuse me? A battery takes FIVE minutes to switch out.

They now are telling me that it was the alternator and it's covered under warranty and will be ready by six. Okay, frustrating, again. So, I sit at Pep Boys until 8:30 AT NIGHT, when they tell me that Victor doesn't know how to change my alternator. They tell me that it will be the first car that Victor sees the next day when he arrives at noon! WHAT? Victor does not know how to do it, let alone my car should be the FIRST car seen the next day, no? Yes, you read that right. Victor the "Mechanic" was not able to figure out how to change my alternator in the 8 hours it was in his bay. So here I am, in the middle of a dark Florida city, and I have to walk home. On the walk I call my boss and tell him that, yet again, I cannot come into work. Did my boss believe me when I said a mechanic could not figure out a way to fix an alternator? Probably not.

So I make my way to Pep Boys at 8 am the next day and the morning manager Juan ** was not aware of the situation at all even though my car was left suspended in the first bay overnight. Juan tells me it will be ready by 10 am. I arrive at 10 am and finally! A “mechanic” knew how to change the alternator! But, there was another part which I needed. Or did I? As a young girl, I am not always aware of the severity of auto problems. Juan probably screwed me over in that sense as well. I could be understanding if one of these bumps in the road occurred during a visit. But all of this? I missed two whole days of work for a job that should have taken less than half of what it did. Because of the Pep Boys incompetent managers, unskilled mechanics, and under-stocked store, I had to drop a class this semester. Thank you, Pep Boys, for altering my academic career.

Maybe I should become a manager at Pep Boys because obviously that doesn't require an education. (P.S. Pay people like Benjamin more. Seriously. He deals with the ** that the “Mechanics” cause. I WISH I remembered the name of the night manager, it was something like Asif, or Atif, or Afis. Not the most helpful man, but he had a slightly better personality than Juan).

We purchased a set of tires in Nov 2013 that were rated for 60K miles. We had the tires on my truck for just under 3 years and they had less than 30K miles on them. My truck started riding rough, then rougher and rougher. My husband looked at the tires and you could clearly feel a couple large bulges. He took the truck up to Pep Boys and advised him the truck was riding rough to please inspect all of the tires and check the tie rod ends. In 1 hour, they said there was nothing wrong with the tires that is where they were put together by the manufacturer.

My husband told him there was no way, the truck rides rough like you are riding horse down the road. They insisted the tires were good and sent us on our way. They never checked the tie rod ends. He went back home, pulled the tires, checked the wheel bearings and the tie rod ends. The tie rod ends had very little play but he replaced them anyway. Then we went and had an alignment at Firestone and asked them to check the one tire we knew was problematic. The guy said he thought a separation issue was occurring (which is what we thought).

So we went back to Pep Boys and were told the exact same thing. That is where the tire is put together. "I've been doing this for 37 years and I know that is where they were put together." I told him that I've driven the truck for 16 years and it's always been a smooth ride until the last 2 weeks and it just keeps getting rougher and rougher. I told the guy I have the kids in the car all the time and it's important to me to have good tires on the car. Unsatisfied the way this was handled, we took the car to the next closest Pep Boys and we were told we have 3 tires separating. I've always rotated my tires and keep proper air in them. I think the tires had a manufacture defect. I've never had 1 tire separate much less 3 of 4 brand new tire with less than 30K miles on them. Pep Boys only solution was to buy a new set of tires.

We called corporate - that was a joke. My husband asked the guy at corporate if everything was documented just in case he had to call back. The guy on the phone at corporate said yes. However, he never asked my husbands name, phone number, which Pep Boys location, etc. The guy referred us back to the manager at the store. Anyway, there was no way around it and ended up spending $500 on another set of tires which was the best price we could work the numbers down at the store.

Pep Boys is a dishonest company that sells and install parts that are a lesser quality than original parts in the vehicle. They repaired my car front brakes in 2015 and in 2016 I needed new front brakes and pads. The rear brakes needed pads and rotors; we had them repair it in March 2016 and two months later, the brakes were squeaking and needed replacement.

They are dishonest with the consumer and their mechanics are careless. I had them replace the sway bar and bushing and bearings; the next day I heard some knocking noise when I went over bumps. Took the car back to them and of course they found the source, apparently the bushing that is around the differential is loose; now I never had this issue before they replaced the sway bar, bushings and bearings and all they could say is "we don't have a mechanic with transmission experience" and we can refer you to AAMCO Transmission and offer me a free oil change after I spent $759.19 for them to fix the sway bar; bushing and bearings.

I am a very dissatisfied consumer and will do everything I can do so the next person is not robbed hundreds of dollars for repair work that will not last one (1) year. I'm going to their corporate office; they should refund me at least 1/2 of the money I spent because the car did not have a knocking noise when I brought it to them. I used them because I could not get my car to the dealer and it needed repair work immediately. Signed, A Very Dissatisfied Consumer.

After the car was dropped off, an hour or so later I received a phone call from Jim, the assistant manager at your Dacula, GA location, suggesting to me that some suspension work was needed to correct some “play” in the steering wheel. I agreed with Jim and gave him the o.k. to complete the suspension work. Because they had to order parts on 8/29, we were told the car would not be ready until Tuesday, 8/30. We were fine with Pep Boys keeping our car overnight on Monday so the work could be completed on Tuesday.

We contacted Pep Boys throughout the day on Tuesday, 8/30 and we were told the car was still be “worked on”. The Dacula Pep Boys location closes around 7:00pm, so we called around 6:00 pm on 8/30 to see if the car was ready, but we were told the car would have to be test-driven to make sure the suspension work was fixed and working properly. At 6:45pm, we contacted them again only to find out that the mechanic at your location took the car out for a test drive, but the car “died” on the middle of a busy road. We have never had any issues with our Jeep “dying” and especially while in drive. Jim told me they would have to keep the car overnight once again to determine why the Jeep died. Of course, my wife and I were starting to get nervous being that it was day #2 and something was wrong with our vehicle.

Yesterday, 8/31, Jim contacted me around 9:00 am letting me know that he had bad news. When the mechanic took our Jeep out for the test drive the night before, they did something wrong that caused all of the oil to fall out of the engine while the car was in drive. Because of this, the engine was destroyed! He told me that he would have to replace the engine and he authorized me to pick up a rental car from Enterprise Rental in Lawrenceville, GA. Before I picked up the rental car around 5:00 pm yesterday, I called Jim from my cell phone to get a status on my Jeep. He told me that the old motor was almost out of the Jeep and a new motor was coming from your plant in Indianapolis and would be delivered today.

I recently visited the Pep Boys store on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg, Pa 17050, between 4-5pm. I went to this store on August 14th, 2016 to inquire about a part I needed for my car. Upon walking in, I headed for the Service/Tire area, as I was unsure of where to ask about this part. Three computers, three different clerks, one person in front of me. The man in front of me was helped fast enough... and then I just stood there and waited anxiously for my turn. As more time passed by and more associates came and went, I began to ask myself why I was still standing there, unassisted. More associates came out from the service area, noticed me, and continued on without acknowledging me.

Another ten minutes went by before, finally, someone spoke to me. I asked the very simple question I had now waiting 15 minutes to ask, "who do I speak to about finding a car part?" I was told to go straight back to 'Parts.' It felt great knowing I had been ignored for so long, in the wrong place. Brushing this off, I walked to the back of the store where the parts section was. Three computers, zero clerks. Perhaps they were all busy ignoring others in the Service section, who am I to say. So, again, I stood and waited.

After yet another ten minutes, I began to pace back and forth like a caged tiger, looking down the long rows of high shelved parts I might never get the chance to inquire about; waiting, waiting for anyone to come help me. I began to reminisce about all the other car part stores I had passed on my way to the renowned Pep Boys. After another ten minutes of the staff's complete absence, I gave up. After waiting in various places for twenty-five minutes, for the help that was never to come, I walked out of the store.

While this email is obviously filled with light hearted ribbing, I am actually quite displeased with my experience in this store. I've worked in customer service for years and it's really sad to go to a store and receive no service at all. And honestly, I'll probably never go back to this store. I don't do a ton of car work, but when I do, I'll be taking my service elsewhere.

On the date of August 6th, 2016, I received a ride from a Pep Boys towing truck at about 12:34 PM. I arrived at the San Pedro location in San Antonio, TX shortly after. I was having problems with my turning signal and shortage of headlights. My battery had went dead the night before so I was trying to handle it as best as I could. First off, the clerk told me a false time. He said that it would only be an hour wait. I ended up waiting until almost 6:00 PM until the service was done. Mind you, I took a half day of work off just to get this process taken care of. No one bothered to check and see if my car was being tended to or anything of the sort.

Finally, the workers tried to jumpstart my car in order to get a good enough boost to get a new battery from the initial shop that I received it from, Goodyear. The charge would not stay, so I payed for a battery from Pep Boy's shop, as well as the installation charges. When that was done, one of the workers noticed that my driver's side tires were low. He asked did I want to change them out. I asked how bad were they, and he claimed that they were fine for now, but recommended to change them in a few months at the latest. I complied and said that air was fine for now because I had already spent a lot for brake pad installation a few weeks back as well at the same location. The air for the tires was free of charge. After the air was input into the tires, I headed home to visit my kids before taking off to a get together at a coworker's house. I stayed until about a little past midnight and decided to head back to my house.

While on the road, I felt a strange pull on my side of the car. Shortly afterwards, my back tire exploded and popped off. After that my front tire exploded as well which turned my car around 360 degrees in three spins. I pulled over to the side afterwards. I highly recommend that no one considers Pep Boy's for any service issues pertaining to their vehicles. My life was in danger, and anyone else's could have been as well. I'm traumatized by this whole experience and I hope no one will have to go through the same thing that I have. Please heed my warning. This is not a good business. They do not care about anything but profit. Lives are not of the highest priority at all.

First, let me explain our current situation. I am moving from NYC to LA. With me are my sister, a friend, and an English bulldog. In case you did not know, English Bulldogs do not do well in the heat and can collapse and die from exhausted if exposed to heat for a prolong time. Here is the issue: AC broke down right as we got to Nashville. Pep Boys in Nashville said we needed to replace the AC compressor. They first said they had the part, then said they don't have the part, then said they ordered the part and we had to wait a day. The following day I arrived and they informed me that the part was not placed and that I'd have to wait 5 hours for the part to arrive. When we finally got the AC compressor, I was informed that there was a part in the compressor that does not match my car and would have to wait another 45 minutes to have it rushed over.

After two days, the compressor was installed and we left Nashville. (It took two days to resolve to issue and $1100!) After 30 minutes of driving leaving from Nashville the AC stopped working. We called up Pep Boys in Nashville and we were told to go to Little Rock AR to fix issue free of charge. We got to Little Rock late at night because the fix in Nashville took forever and we were forced to stay in a motel and wait for Pep Boys in Little Rock to open. Went to Pep Boys in the morning. We were told that they do not have anyone available to fix the car and that we should drive to Oklahoma City (5 hr drive with no AC) and that they are going to fix the issue once we arrive. We arrived in Pep Boys in OK city and were told we are not scheduled and that their mechanic is gone until Tuesday.

After explaining our situation, they attempted to fix the issue on the spot. The issue was due to the compressor PSI being too high causing a valve to be closed. They set the correct PSI and the AC in the car worked... for 12 hours. The next day the AC stopped working. We drove through 3 states in the month of August with no AC. We still have to drive through NM, Arizona, and Nevada. Driving in the heat with no AC with a dog is unacceptable. I would advise anyone to avoid getting your car fixed at any of the locations at all cost. Their mechanics do not seem capable or knowledgeable. If parts are needed they are incredibly slow to get and the labor hours are incredibly expensive. There is obviously no communications between stores.

I attempted to call customer relation at their 1800 number. No one picked up, even during business hours. When I attempted to leave a message, the mailbox was full (Shows you how many people called to complain). I will be going to the Pep Boys in Albuquerque to demand a refund or for them to pay for an outside mechanic to fix my AC. I will update this soon.

I guess I should have learned... I've had issues before with Pep Boys service/mechanics. Today was no different. I brought my daughter's car [2007 mini cooper] in for a simple oil change. After paying for it they gave me the key. I go to parking lot and drive away. About 2 minutes into my drive home, I smell burning oil. No real big surprise. I've changed oil on many cars over the yrs... sometimes oil spills on the motor or exhaust. So I thought it was natural and would burn off. The smell got worse as I kept driving. By the time I got home, about 10 minutes later and stopped my car smoke was coming from under the hood and the smell was unbearable bad burnt oil. I opened the hood... a good amount of light smoke which eventually cleared away... I then noticed and was just freaking crazy pissed. Within about 2 minutes or so I had about 1/4 quart of oil under the nose of the car. The motor around the oil filter was completely soaked.

I then was appalled when I looked up the street a semi-solid line of oil going all the way up the street. I followed it to my corner. My house is approx. 800' from the corner the trail of oil then turned my corner and continued all the way from the direction I came from Pep Boys. I went home and got in my car. I backtracked it about a mile. Before I got so disgusted I went back home. Checked the oil on the dipstick - none to be found and bad burnt smell. I got back into my car... went back to Pep Boys. I went first to where my car was parked 30 minutes prior. Lo and behold there was a pool of oil there too - about 1/4 quart or more and there was this oil trail starting at this pool of oil leading out of the parking lot going the way I just went home.

I was fuming. I went inside, told the manager what his stupid mechanics had done and to go outside and look. I then showed him photos I took at home of all the oil on the ground at my house. He told me I should just bring the car back. I demanded it be flat bedded at their expense. I'm not driving it. There is no oil left in the motor. I will call Pep Boys corporate come Monday morning. I've tried to give them a couple of chances with past screw ups by their mechanics but this is the last straw. I'm done with their kiddie mechanics who don't give a ** about my car or anyone else's. I am also going to call Dept of Consumer Affairs. I have many photos now... pictures don't lie.

I came into the store (71 S. Semoran Blvd) because I had a battery issue and they told me my battery was completely dead while accusing me of having my battery sit in my car for long periods of time which in fact is completely false cause as a full-time college student and working full time, I only have one car. Then they told me it would take a little over an hour for them to charge the battery for them to be able to test the battery. So I dropped off the battery appx 6:15 pm, came back at 7:20 and my battery test still wasn't ready. Finally they told me my battery needed to be replaced but they were telling me I had to drive all the way to the location on Powers Dr to do a warranty exchange cause I didn't have my receipt.

I requested them to call the store and after minutes of hesitation they finally called and got my receipt information. The manager then continued to ask me who installed the battery in the first place and I responded by saying Pep Boys installed it cause I don't know how to. So he responded by saying, "Oh well I install my own batteries." I have never felt so belittled in my life. Being at this location made me feel extremely comfortable and I would never go back here again. I finally received my battery at 8:01 pm after all the drama. While the manager continued to give me attitude up until the point of me exiting the building.

Went to Pep Boys in East Norriton for state inspection of a one year old vehicle. When completed, the stickers were placed on my windshield in front of my steering wheel. I complained to the store manager that it impairs my vision, and just put them in the same place they were before. The manager refused (his name is Mark), and started to aggressively argue with me and parents and wife that this was against the law and he started to use foul language in front of us. We don't told him his professionalism and conduct was inappropriate, and we told him we are not going back here anymore. He stated that we were now threatening him. But, then decided to take in the car, and move the sticker so it was not in the way. Well, he put it back in the same exact place over the steering wheel, and still charged us.

What is worse, is that he made us wait for 1.5 hours for the vehicle, and he kept the engine on the whole time deliberately wasting my gas. I had a full tank when I took it in, and only 3/4 tank when I picked it up. This guy is a psycho, and I will never go back to this place. I also lodged a complaint with Pep Boys customer service, but they are also refusing to do anything for me as they are only listening to whatever the store manager says. I will never go back to Pep Boys, and nobody else should either. If they are smart, they will fire this animal as soon as possible because he will make them lose business over the long run. If they don't, I hope their service shop goes out of business as they don't have anything but a bunch of amateurs and wise guys running their business and working in their shop.

Anyway, a different mechanic moved the stickers to the appropriate place, and now I can see while I drive now. It took the new mechanic 10 minutes to give me new stickers and went over the placement of stickers with me very carefully using good customer service skills. I will go back to that mechanic. Customer service seems like such an easy thing, except for Pep Boys.

Dear Robert did come out and told me they had broken the handle on the driver's side door. They would order it and replace it free of charge tomorrow. Great. Another day wasted at Pep Boys. I went to Pep Boys to have a new sensor put in my tire and to have an NYS inspection performed on my car. About 1 hour later I received a call that I failed inspection and that it would be about $950.00 to fix. This included my rear brakes, front coil springs, windshield wipers, and the sensory. Due to my lack of knowledge on cars I get worried I am getting screwed. So before agreeing to these repairs I called a few friends. A friend said that it is difficult to break the coil springs and that seemed a little weird. Pep Boys had to call the dealership to get the coil springs to be replaced. In doing so the make and model of my car needed to be said. Turns out there is a recall on my car for this exact problem. I was told by the dealership they would have disclosed this information to Pep Boys, but Pep Boys tried to charge me anyway.

Fortunately, I declined the services except for the sensor because my tire could only hold air for about a day, and I needed it. I scheduled my appt with Nissan to get the recall fixed. But what do you think happened when I went out to my car the next day? My tire was flat. After calling multiple Pep Boys and being hung up on by the first I found out that the person working on my car put the sensor in the wrong tire and replaced a full functioning one. So now with me being late to my appt with the dealership because I now have to put air in my tire, I'm livid. When I get to the dealership they saw that I had a receipt from Pep Boys with the reasons for my failed inspection. So they called and asked if I wanted them to double check because there didn't appear to be a problem with my brakes.

The result of this was that I was told, and I quote, "There is no way you should have failed an inspection for your brakes, they are fully functioning." So not only did Pep Boys try to screw me out of a recall repair, they claimed there was a major problem that actually didn't exist, and they messed up the one task I asked of them. So now instead of one day of dealing with car stuff I'm on 3, and Pep Boys is refusing to refund me for putting the sensor in the wrong tire. Basically this one location is awful. I have never received such horrid customer service in my life. But I do want to acknowledge the other Pep Boys near me. I called them and they were nothing but helpful with the whole situation. They called the manager on his cell phone for me when the other location just hung up on me.

Engine was getting gas flooded, lot of black smoke coming from the exhaust, backfiring, etc, etc. My XJ need a tune-up so I decided to buy new spark-plugs, spark wires, ignition coil, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator.

After installing everything the jeep started but with the same symptoms. A friend of mine told that he has a spare CPS, an original one. I installed it and all the symptoms were eliminated, jeep running better than ever. All this was 3.5 weeks after installing the Pep Boys sensor. I went back to Pep Boys with the faulty sensor and they started with, "We dont refund electronic components... Wait! This purchase was one month ago... Absolutely no money back". I asked, "Even the ones that are faulty?" They replied, "We dont have a way to test them, but we can exchange the part with a new one".

And I asked, "What if that part is not really faulty but is not working under the specs of my car? All the sensors will fail. I have to remind you that your system says that this sensor is compatible with my car but it is really not. It is sending a bad/weak signal. But if you want put your best mechanic to test all the sensors on my car, if one of the sensors works I will go happy to home. If none works I want my money back..." They shrugged their shoulders and offered the refund in a gift card. I took it and got back to home... Thanks to my insistence I got a gift card... YAY!!! NOT! I wanted my money back. It is not my fault that Pep Boys sells out of specs/faulty items. After using the gift card I will plan to not get back there ever.

I went to Pep Boys after reading online that they were one of the top ten car repair places in Vallejo. I needed my heater fixed. I dropped the car off on a Thursday evening with the understanding that Chris (the guy that did all my initial paperwork) would call me the next day to give me a ballpark figure and an idea of when I could get the car back. He called me Friday morning and let me know that during the inspection an oil leak was found. I told him that I was aware of the oil leak and that I had taken it to several places and no one could tell me what it was. Chris replied that the reason no one had told me what it was, was because it was a pain in the butt job and time consuming. He told me what the leak was, gave me an estimate on the heater repair, as well as fixing the leak.

I told him to go ahead with the repair and he told me I could expect the car around the beginning of the following week. He told me that the heater repair was also difficult, but assured me that they would be able to do the job. I let him know at the time that my car sometimes unlocks itself and asked that he keep it close to the garage and in the lot at night. On Monday I had to go and get some materials for my classroom out of the car. I went up to Pep Boys, and a young man came out with the key and went with me to get the stuff from my car. I found the car parked across the street in a different parking lot, unlocked and obviously away from anyone at Pep Boys supervision. I got my materials, locked the car and told the young man that my car needed to be moved closer to the shop.

I went home and received a call from Chris about 45 minutes after I had been home. He said to me, "My guys don't want to fix your car. They are afraid that they might break something when they go into the dash to fix the heater." I was shocked and asked him why someone didn't tell me that when I was there less than an hour ago, and why had they kept my car for five days when they had no intention of working on it. He muttered some other lame reason which I didn't understand and hung up. I went to pick my car up. It took 20 minutes to find the key, and Chris never even came out to talk to me himself. Another person came out, and when I told him what had happened he expressed shock and agreed that Pep Boys actions with regard to my vehicle were very unprofessional and was by no means a way of doing business. I will never go there again, and I suggest that anyone looking for car repair also go somewhere else.

Today (May 12, 2016) when I picked my car up, my remote control didn't work, I couldn't open my car, so I went back to the office, and a couple of workers tried to help me to open the car, but they couldn't either. They said "probably the battery went dead". So I have ran to the store where my alarm was installed, it was just across the street, and they changed the battery. But it still didn't work. I was told probably one of the Pep Boy's worker dropped the remote because it's broken. They have locked the car, and I couldn't open it. I told them they locked the car with the remote and I couldn't open it. They lied into my face: "We never locked the car." Then how come I couldn't get into the car? Also they don't know, I have a very expensive alarm system and I getting messages onto my phone every time when the alarms goes off, and the Pep Boys workers tried to open the car with me at 9:25 AM and 9:30 AM and finally the workers across the street from the car electrical shop came over to the Pep Boys parking lot and stopped the alarm at 10:05AM. So I lost $80, and I was called a liar and a scam to try to rip them off.

Looks like an additive in the basic coolant flush package provided by Pep Boys may have ruined my radiator and engine. Pep Boys is not taking admitting fault as the manufacturer stands behind the product. My understanding is the additive over time created a substance that ruined the radiator and then restricted the water jackets and as a result the engine was ruined. This has been substantiated by the dealer. Not only should Pep Boys not have recommended and performed 2 coolant flushes within months of each other but, the additive they used should not be used in Hondas, according to the manual. And, coolant flush should last 10 years - it has only been 2.

I took my car into Pep Boys located in Austell, GA in December 2015 for an alignment and oil change. When I returned to pick it up, the manager, Joe, told me they tried to align it but couldn't and he thinks it may be the machine they use to do alignments, but he wasn't sure so he just had the mechanic take it off the machine instead of continuing to mess with it. I was kind of speechless at his lack of concern or explanation, but I did ask him what I should do next (I thought he would suggest me bringing it back the following morning, but oh no) and he replied that I should definitely get it aligned somewhere quick because the steering wheel was now way off center. That was an understatement, to say the least. My steering wheel was almost turned upside down. He told me that the service manager was Chris and I could call him and work something out with him if I wanted and then comped the cost of my oil change.

After calling at least 5 times the next week, I spoke with Chris and he told me to bring my car back up there the following week and he would see that it gets fixed right because their alignment machine was repaired now. I did as he instructed and took it in on a day he said he would be there and not only was he not there, when they called him to confirm what I was saying, he claimed he didn't know anything about my situation. I grabbed the phone and after about 30 seconds of reminders, he suddenly recalled who I was. They took my car in and then called me to tell me they couldn't do an alignment now because I needed new tie rod ends. I took it to another Pep Boys location and they did my alignment, no problem.

My second experience with the Austell Pep Boys happened yesterday. I took my car in for another oil change and told them I wanted the high mileage oil change and had a coupon for $15 off. The manager was once again Joe. I dropped the car off and went back 4 hours later to pick it up and they couldn't find my paperwork or my service ticket in their system.

After looking through every ticket in their service department, they found my service ticket stapled to a receipt with someone else's name, address and phone number on it. Then, when I gave them my coupon they said the system wouldn't take it because I had gotten the manager special oil change and it was already discounted. Then he told me the price was $69! I about died. After looking at my receipt, I saw that I was charged $20 for wiper blades that I didn't request and there was no discount taken at all and they left all of the other customer's info on the receipt! Talk about not giving a what! I will never use the Austell Pep Boys again!

Service manager Bill tried to avoided even acknowledging their error even with our invoice at hand. They sent a letter two weeks later refusing claim, arguing they do not check nuts on car inspections and do not check nuts on tires to do a car alignment.

After exhausting all diplomacy, we are now hiring attorneys to force them to respond for their negligence. We are opening a case with FHP for possible culpable negligence and sending formal complaint with FTC for criminal and dishonest practices. Pep Boys are total criminals and they will get you killed with their careless services. Service manager William, area manager Frank ** total scumbag rude and disrespectful, claims manager Steve ** does not even responds calls. Avoid doing business with Pep Boys. They are so bad that their store manager name is hidden from customers. They refuse to say the name. No one is accountable for anything there...

I left my Honda Accord with the Panama City store for brake repair on the front brakes. I was promised that it would be ready in 2 1/2 hours. Did not get the vehicle back until over 6 hours had passed. The repaired brakes were a mess. They constantly grabbed and acted like the anti-lock system was on all of the time. I took it back two days later. They completed the job but to extort additional money for some damage to rotors caused by their own mechanic. I refused to pay a penny more. The work they had to redo took 4 or 5 hours. During first session I wondered outside the bay area. Several different mechanics were working at different times with none of them seeming to know what they were doing. Most of the time the car was just sitting there. When got the car back there no apology but only a curt "have a good day".

OK, I'm not one who usually posts reviews but this time I had to... Went to Pep Boys in Audubon, NJ, Store #0262 on 3/5/2016 to get new tires for my 2014 Dodge Charger SXT Beats Audio edition. Tires are 245/45/R20 which were hard to find on short notice but this store had 4 of that size in stock and advertises as such, so off I went... Things seemed to go ok at first, I was told due to the 20 inch rim size, mounting and balancing was going to take a while, which was no problem to me 2-2.5 hrs. I decided to wait, I don't trust leaving that car with anyone (bad experiences in past, other cars) which is why I generally do all my own auto care at home. Tires I just can't do, no tire machine. So back to it...

All was going well until it came time for them to ask me about an alignment. I didn't think the car needed one cause it was done by Dodge not too long ago but with the new tires I figured it's always better to at least check. So they persuaded me with a 30.00 discount if I needed it so I said "Go ahead and check after installing tires." Few hours go by, Mike comes to me and say "Let's go into shop to see align check results..." Lo and behold the alignment is off, just slightly, more so in rear, nevertheless seeing the red values on the screen and spending 900.00 on tires I said go ahead with the alignment. I asked to print the alignment screen for me so I have the before and then after values for comparison and I was told the printer is broken (how convenient, after reading other reviews about Pep Boys) no foul I said, I have my trusted phone, I'll just take a picture or two and confirmed it was OK and I also wanted after alignment pics too. Mike said no problem, took my before pic and was told they would set alignment right now. Time for me to go back in waiting area, no prob.

I went right outside from shop, lit a cigarette, had two puffs and Mike was behind me already saying "OK, all done." I was like WOW, really, that fast. I know bit about cars, no way it was done that quick. His response to me was, "Well, I have my best guy on it." Back to shop we went, all values on screen were in green (mostly) close enough, I guess but values kept moving as I was standing there. No tech in sight, of course no printer but I was allowed to take the after picture with my phone and told Mike this car is hard to get steering wheel straight. Dodge had prob and if it wasn't I'd turn right around and be back, he said OK. Was also told "You can't align rear of a rear wheel car" which I know isn't exactly true, also noticed a little grease on my new tires and wheels (20" custom wheels). Said nothing, figured any good shop is going to clean that up. Off to register to pay my 884.33 and off I went.

Now, on highway drive home I immediately noticed wheel wasn't straight (was when I took it in) and car drifted to right if I held wheel straight. It was so slight the average person probably wouldn't have noticed it, but as I said, I know my cars. Called Mike right away and made appointment to bring back first thing in morning next day, to correct... No big deal. On to next morning 9 am... car got in shop right away. I expressly asked 4 times that when car got on alignment MACHINE I WANTED PIC OF VALUES AGAIN TO COMPARE TO LAST NIGHT'S PIC WHEN I LEFT. Once again Mike said "No problem." I said once more... "I know printer doesn't work and I want to see those numbers before the alignment is 'fixed.'" No problem he said.

Some time passes by and I look in shop and car is up on lift way longer than the 5 min yesterday on alignment so I found Mike and said "What happened, I want pic of those before values" and I told him I was upset that they would do alignments and offer printouts with a broken printer, he says oops, the tech (his best guy) forgot to save the before values, (how convenient) and the view I was seeing was totally different than yesterday. I pushed the issue, wanted to talk to tech for myself but of course he was nowhere to be found. Mike just told me he already asked him and he didn't save the before values. I did get Mike to get back to screen I saw yesterday and compared to pic I had from so called alignment day before. Numbers were totally different, in middle of this Mike also said, "Oh no printer's not broken" (cause I mentioned how he could charge people on a broken machine, he said printer is out of ink).

"REALLY" I said. "There is a Staples literately next door, do you want me to go for you," of course it was laughed off. I also showed him the white grease that was spewed all over my new 800 tires and custom 20 inch rims. It was everywhere, a total mess. Couldn't believe after paying that amount they gave me the car like that, so I was told they would clean it up. So after another 25 min on alignment machine, once again way longer then the 5 min day before I was told tech would take for a test drive and let me know how steering was. I said "Hell no, I'll take the car for a test drive and I'll let YOU know and if it's not fixed I want my money back," was told no problem. I said "If it's fixed, no harm no foul about the 'printer problem'." Went out on drive and steering wheel seemed straight and tight, way better than they let me leave with yesterday so I went back and figured all well.

Not so fast, 6 days later, today... I noticed the white grease got embedded into the rubber and now there is a weird yellow partial ring around my custom black wheels, didn't wash off, looks like crap and I found damage to one of my wheels (will do better inspection in daylight tomorrow). I honestly believe tech left grease on wheel hoping I wouldn't see damage. It's small gouge and yes I do have some curb rash but this gouge wasn't there before I brought car here, so now my 800 new black tires have white grease stain and new gouge. I believe the grease is used to stretch the tire on to 20 inch rim and think there is a special machine for the larger tires/custom wheels which they don't have so grease the ** outta them and STRETCH I guess.

How can you advertise having the larger tires in stock for install but not have the proper equipment to install them. Total BS. The kid GOUGED my custom wheel trying to stretch tire on, no doubt. My dumbass fault for going to a Pep Boys. I am going back tomorrow to complain about the permanent white grease stain and if allowed on this site, I'll update.

Moral of story so far... DON'T SPEND 884.33 ON TIRES AT PEP BOYS AND EXPECT A PROFESSIONAL CUSTOM JOB. Find a custom speed shop. One more thing, they didn't want to give me any paperwork showing the car was brought back next day to realign from previous day or clean grease off wheels. I got a copy of a receipt just saying computerizes alignment, no mention of it had to be done again. Steering wheel is straight again but tires look like crap with white grease stains, so do my wheels.

Check engine light came on again, took it back and they said coil. I told them I just had them replace it and they said they didn't. I asked what I spend 625 dollars on and he said the tune up. I told the manager I was lied to because I was told the coil was suppose to be replaced. I also told him I would never spend 625 just for a tune up if I knew that's all that was being done. Their products are good, just as good as if you'd get anywhere else. Best price? Definitely not. They cost THE SAME. Offers or big deals and discounts? That's all a scheme. You get a 4th tire for "free" alright, just as long as you purchase their stupid road hazard warranty for 80% of the price of that 4th tire. Great! At least you are still around 40 or 50 bucks ahead right? Wrong! They are the only place that will change all your 4 tires and not give you free alignment. But hey, for those 40 or 50 bucks they will. So in the end you get regular price, lazy late service (there was also that, an appointment won't get you started any sooner) and an extra feeling like you are an idiot that fell for their marketing trap. Good for them! Not for you. Never using them again.

I took my car to Pep Boys to see how much it would be to get my brakes fixed. The first day I drop my car off for 6 hours expecting them to be working on it like they promised, only to arrive with a slight apology saying how busy they were. The day after I drop it off for another 6 hours for them to do nothing to my car, and then finally the third day in a row I sit and wait for 4 hours while they perform a 2.5-hour job. I paid around 300 dollars to get my brakes "fixed" only to find out that what they thought was wrong wasn't the problem. My car needed a new master cylinder, and was unsafe to drive so I let them fix it for another 300 dollars. 2 weeks after both repairs I notice my brake fluid is leaking (never leaked before Pep Boys). So I took it back up to have them check it, and apparently they once again "fixed" it by tightening the master cylinder.

Now 2 months have past and my brakes are still leaking, so I take it back up to Pep Boys to see why my brakes are still leaking. Well it turns out that Pep Boys put a faulty part on my car without even thinking about the consequences, and if it had me get into an accident. So I let them replace the faulty part they put on because the part was still under warranty. So I drop my car off for a full day and a half to finally receive a call to say it was ready and good to go at around 2pm. I am able to go into Pep Boys around 4:20pm thinking that it will be quick. I stand in line for 5 mins and then I hear "I'll take the next person in line" only to wait another 5 minutes while the woman finishes cashing out the customer in front of me. (Now it's 4:30 I have to be at work at 5.)

The woman starts to look up my information then ask for me to pay my 6 dollars that I owe for the repair. The part is under warranty so I decline and ask them why am I paying that. She had no idea nor the man standing next to her. Another 10 minutes goes by and they finally get my bill settled. So they hand me my service packet, and just before I walk out the door I didn't see my key. I asked them to please give me my key. (It's now 4:45 and I'm running late for work.) Now during this whole time not a single person actually seemed to care that I was in a rush, and also the fact that they were doing their jobs to the least of their abilities.

PEP BOYS LOST MY KEY, and after 45 minutes of checking to see if they locked it in my car, looking in the trash, under the stapler, and even the general manager came to look for my key never saying a single word to me about the inconvenience that they are causing me. (It's now 5:30 I am late for work.) I will never go to Pep Boys ever again to have my time wasted and my patience tested. It is truly a dysfunctional corporation with terrible customer service. I ADVISE EVERYONE TO STEER CLEAR OF PEP BOYS.

I was contacted by a Senior Corporate Officer about my experience. She was very attentive to my concerns and was very sincere on her apology. She offered me options to take my vehicle to another store within my city to be serviced properly. I politely declined as it was relatively far and I already made an appointment to have my car re-serviced at my local regular car dealership. I received a refund on the charge from the store and to me. The callback and the refund is a demonstration of sincerity towards customer service commitment.

I would say the bad experience I had with this one store is not a representation of the entire chain. I'd like to remember Pep Boys as still that familiar 3 men with a bubble head icon I came to know associated with good service. Like all companies, there are good employees and a few bad ones. Pep Boys has stepped up to the occasion and heard my concerns. Most importantly, they made it right! That is a hallmark of any good company.

As Pep Boys made a great service recovery from a service issue, my trust in them is re-enforced.

    Original Review: Jan. 28, 2016

STAY AWAY!!! Unless if you enjoyed being lied to, taken for a fool and ripped off up front. On Jan 26, 2016 around 10am, I brought in my Infiniti FX35 for brake pad change and a suspected seized rear driver's side caliper to Pep Boys in S. Fry Road, Katy, TX (store# 1484). I've used Pep Boys in the past dating back to my NY days and they always did a great job on brakes for me, even better than the brake job done by some dealership in my experience. This shop also did the rear brake pads change on my Nissan Pathfinder Platinum a few months ago without any hitch.

I was told by the manager that besides my pads my rear driver's side caliper needs replaced due to a seized upper caliper bolt. No surprise there as I already suspected it due to presence of excessive brake dust and gradual pull to the left when driving in a straight line. I was also told my driver's side CV joint boot is torn and needs replaced soon. I told them not to change it (CV joint) yet as I want to canvass for best prices.

After picking up my vehicle in the afternoon, on the drive home I noticed my brake pedal travel was longer than normal and I had to floor the pedal for the brake to completely bite. This is common indication of presence of air pockets in brake lines that can happen if the brake lines are not bled after a brake job. This is dangerous and not conducive to stop and go street traffic driving. On arriving home, I checked my brake reservoir and was livid to see blue color brake fluid. They charged me for brake fluid change yet my ATE super blue fluid is still in the reservoir. I called the manager and ask what type of brake fluid was used on my vehicle and was told it was DOT3. He told me it is clear color when I further asked. I confronted him that my brake fluid was not changed and my system not bled or bled properly at the very least. He told me to come back the following day and he will be waiting around 7am.

Not wanting to miss work, I came around 7:30am. Manager Jose was not around and I was told by the counter person Jose usually arrives around past 9am. The counter person suggested for me to have breakfast and come back at 9am. I insisted to wait and asked him to call his manager from home and get the mechanic to work on the car ASAP. He then told me the mechanic said he just top off my brake fluid. I said but I was charged for a brake flush and asked him if it was normal for them to mix fluids of different grades or at least of different colors? There's a reason why fluids are color coded. ATE Super blue though does not conform with standard color code. More so, ATE Super Blue full synthetic is DOT4 and the brake fluid they allegedly used on my vehicle was DOT3. He replied "no". Thank you very much! And why my pedals feels spongy? Shoulder shrug.

After they bled my brake lines (supposedly the second time), a mechanic came out and asked me to see the freshly dripped blue fluid on the floor. I pointed dark circle dirt on the spilled fluid on the floor. An indication my brake lines were never bled as claimed. Bleeding the brake fluid properly should have removed those dirt. I left my business card to the counter person and asked him to have the manager call me once he gets in.

So the manager called after I've left and offered for me to provide to purchase for me the performance ATE super blue brake fluid and suggested they do a complete flush using my preferred brake fluid. I said you are not touching any of my cars again. You only got one shot at integrity and you flunked miserably. And about that torn CV joint boot, I pointed out that I just had my ball joint on the driver's side replaced at the dealership and had the car thoroughly inspected for suspension noise very recently. There's no way the dealership could missed that. Coincidentally while waiting this morning I overheard the counter guy on the phone with 2 customers talking about replacing their CV joints. Some bad roads in Katy area to have such a big issue of busted CV joints in just one local shop - a nice coincidence, bad luck for the owners, good business for the shop.

The manager apologized profusely, said he addressed the mechanic wanted to have another shot of making it right and offered for me to purchase the CV axle joint and he would install it free of charge while I watch. I told him I was still so mad and not wanting them to touch my car. I told him I was in no capacity to make the decision being very upset at the moment. This was theft of service. I paid for a service that was never performed and had I not been handy with cars, I would have been duped. I can't speak for others who had their service in this place but God knows what sort of stuff they did for others. I reminded him that he did not deliver his commitment to meet me at 7am as he promised, so how would he expect his team to do the same? Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.

I have been a long-time customer of Pep Boys, despite their many shortcomings. I felt that if they were not fast, they were at least fairly reliable. I went in last Thursday to store 0453 in Ridgewood, Queens for a simple oil change on a fleet vehicle. I was told it would be a "couple of hours," which was what I had set aside for the job. 4 and a half hours later, I told the cashier, Rebecca, that I couldn't wait any longer, and needed my car back. It was on the lift at the time. She asked if I was sure if I wanted it back, even though they hadn't done any work on the car. She explained that they had not received approval from the fleet manager, which was why they hadn't done any work. I asked for my card back, in order to call the 800 number to get approval. She hemmed and hawed for about 15 minutes, then finally got my car and card back to me. She walked back into the garage, and loudly announced "This is **, these people are **"

Upon leaving, I noticed that they had charged the fleet for an oil change, tire rotation, oil filter, 6 qts. of oil, etc., although they clearly said no work had been done on my car. I immediately called the fleet and told them not to pay the bill. I called Pep Boys "customer care" to complain, and was told I would be contacted within 48 hours. To date, no one has called, although the person I just spoke with said they should have said 2 business days, not 48 hours... Either way, I took myself off their mailing list, cancelled my Pep Boys rewards card, and will never set foot in any of their establishments again.

I couldn't help but notice the earlier reviews in which people observed the mechanics sitting around, playing on their phones, and basically avoiding anything that looked like work. That pretty much sums up the atmosphere in store 0453. Another guy said he had been there since 8:30 in the morning. The clincher? Fleet management said they didn't even require authorization for an oil change. Rebecca straight-up lied about the reason I was kept waiting. Bad service is one thing... insulting customers and lying is another. Charging for work that was never done is theft, pure and simple. Never again, Pep Boys! You lost a great customer.

NEVER trust a Pep Boys if you don't know much about cars! Several months ago my passenger side power window stopped working on my 2000 Hyundai Elantra. Since it was stuck down I took it in to Pep Boys and left it there so they could find out what was wrong. Turns out the window motor had "shattered" and the replacement part would cost over $400. This was the only option they gave me. Even when I directly asked them if they could just get the window to stay up I was told it was impossible. I took it to a local mechanic and he got the window to stay up and disconnected the button all for $50 total.

I take the car in yesterday after I blow a tire, the appointment being only for replacing 4 tires with new ones. About a half hour in one of the guys comes out and tells me both my front axles are bad. I have noticed the creaking he claims his mechanic heard 'loud and clear' pulling it into the shop, but only extremely rarely. Knowing nothing about cars, I ask him if this is something that could be dangerous. He says it should be fixed soon if not immediately, but he's not sure of the severity and he'll be back to tell me in better detail.

At the end of the appointment they ended up recommending over $1,200 in repairs for things I have never experienced problems with (the axles, brake rotors, brake pads, headlights) or even mentioned wanting looked at. Yet, when I took my car in last month to an independent shop for an oil change, the mechanics there didn't mention anything despite getting as good a view of the underside of the car as Pep Boys did. All I got out of that was new oil and a replaced radiator cap for around $50. And at the end of ALL THAT Pep Boys put the wrong sized tires on my car only to call and tell me 2 full days later. Be VERY cautious if you go into a Pep Boys with no knowledge of cars, especially if you're a woman and go in alone! All they see is the chance to try and convince you to buy things you probably don't need.

Thanksgiving last year I took a vacation to Los Angeles, CA. I did an oil change on my truck with no issues. A week later before I return to Texas I did a transmission service. Three days later when I was in TX my transmission stop working properly so I took it to a local Pep Boys and spent all morning there. They couldn't figure it out what's wrong with it so they sent me to the dealership. So they did a check up and they told that they will have to drop the oil pan to check it, so that means transmission flush again. At the end a simple 200 dollar job it cost me 1100. I went back to the Pep Boys that sent me to the dealer and they said to make a claim. It's Jan and never heard from them.

Would not recommend this company to anyone who likes time management!!! Even the employee inside was also rude by saying "WHAT?" instead of "How can I help you?" I will take my business elsewhere!

Had I been informed upfront I would've purchased my tires somewhere else. Each tire was $119. I bought two tires and ended up with a total bill for $302.98 .202.

Went back and saw the manager, some guy named Jay. Jay stated he didn't know why his coworker told us all three would be fixed. Started blowing smoke up my ass about how he could change the transmission fluid which might help. He stated he called his transmission buddy, who said that was not a good idea (total bs). Then he stated he was going to look into the ECU module of my car, never heard from him again. Will never go back to any Pep Boys again, total ripoff.

No call from them so I call them at 2 pm and they are only half-way through the inspection so they obviously let my car sit all morning evening though I made an appt. They call me back and tell me it needs close to $900.00 of work (2 tie rods, a ball joint, and alignment) to pass inspection. I asked them if they could get the work done that day by 6 pm at the latest. If not I was coming to pick up my car because I needed it by 6 pm that night. They said YES.

I arrive at the Portsmouth location and they tell me it will not be done until closer to 8 pm. He tells me he didn't understand why they told me it would be done by 6 when the work order called for a 5 hour job. Now I am stuck and needed my wife to leave her work to pick me up and take me back the next day. I think they lied to me the minute I walked in the door and misled me all day to get my business. Like I said if they simply were honest and told me they couldn't get the work done by 6 pm I would have no issue. To top it off they charged me $600 in labor. I think these guys are lying thieves willing to do and say anything to get your business. Don't waste your time!

I visited the Century III Pep Boys in Pgh PA a few days ago to buy a small tool (around 5.99 is what I normally pay for these), a can of fix-a-flat, and a couple of bolts. First thing I noticed is the store is FILTHY - dirt on the doors as well as the door handles, bits of garbage on the floors, etc. (This was observed over a period of 3 days where I visited the store on 3 consecutive days by the way.)

I was in a hurry, so I didn't really notice the prices on these items until they rang up to 22.00!!! I am a mechanic and I know what these should cost. The small pliers should cost 5.99 for the generic ones I purchased, but at Pep Boys they were 11.99! (I get the real Vise Grip brand for less than that.) The fix-a-flat should cost around 4.99, but they were at 6.99 and the bolts I bought are 1.95 at Advance Auto, but theirs was 2.95. I can't say I was a regular Pep Boys customer, but when I found out what they had done to the prices and the condition of their store, I realized they will be closing soon (why else would they let the store go like that??)

I visit dead relative 20 miles away and then on way back after 3 PM, my Honda CRV 2002 just stopped. I was able to get into Shell gas station in Deerfield Beach, FL about 6 miles from Quality Suites thinking I just need maybe fuel pump, alter or something quick. This CRV is in excellent shape and now they say I need new engine after charging me now under $1000.00 so not sure what to do. I am scared and just wanted what was making car not starting. It just won't start but it's not battery. You can start the car but it just does not stay start and it is just the fact that everything else is fine in the CRV.

I had to take a taxi home Thursday night, cost $20.00, and been stuck at this Quality Suites since Thursday. And had planned to do some other things but now I am not able to do anything and I am just hoping they would understand I have no money and I am on a tight budget. I am so upset and afraid and just want to say my father-in-law loves Pep Boys. He may be the only person on this planet that actually goes there thinking he is getting best deal. And he does not understand I used them before and the only reason why this time was they offer free tow truck and it came before the other companies did. He had deliberately padded my bill for $60 by adding a road hazard and service contract, add-ons that were never ever mentioned, discussed or agreed to. After I left there, and was researching Pep Boys online, I learned by purchasing 2 Falken tires I was entitled to a free oil change, which they deliberately concealed from me, to rip me off.

Finally, they charged me $30 to rotate two tires, and when I was able to check my tires in the daylight, no tire rotation was done. When I called their consumer line to make a complaint, I was given a case number and told Scott ** had to call me within 24 hours. He never called. I took my car in to be serviced at the Pep Boys on 11/27/15 specifically for the roaring noise on my vehicle. They did an evaluation check on my car and told me that I needed a sway bar which was worn and new tires, etc. I mentioned that I specifically wanted to fix what was contributing to the noise and the associate told me the sway bar needed to be replaced so I said go ahead and replace that then and I would wait on the tires. Now that I know...word to the wise women sway bars don't make the noise I described it was keeping. When I got my car back it was still making the same noise and I took it back and then they said it was maybe the wheel barring but test drove it supposedly the second time and said it's the tires making the noise.

After I paid them to do the work over $250 for a sway bar that could've been replaced later but they told me that was the problem. Needing new tires was obvious but didn't tell me that the tires was the main problem for the noise; otherwise I would have got tires in the first place. They changed the words around and paperwork after I called corporate then expected me to turn around and pay for tires. Oh and all of a sudden I need shocks, struts put on too and not to mention wheel alignment totaling almost $2,000. Pep Boys love getting over on women.

I took the car home and put the brakes on myself and noticed the rotors look perfectly fine. I took my car to Sears automotive for a second opinion which cost me 25$ and they agreed with me after measuring the rotors with a micrometer. Sears told me they should last about 2 more break pad changes without any problem. Well my car needed brakes for the first time since I purchased it in 2012 at 85k miles so I guess I should get another 6+ years before they need replacing.

How many more times did they lie to me before I caught this lie. I felt cheated in the past and caught them in this lies to make money at my expense. I have another issue with my other car after they replaced the shocks to pass inspection. The rear now make a squeaking noise which Pep boys tells me will cost 1,400 to fix. I will have Sears verify the shock work as well. P.S. because I didn't have Pep boys do the fake repairs I had to pay them to reinspect the car for $38.00. RE: Complaint of “Up-Selling” by Pep Boys. This morning, Nov. 21, I showed up for a scheduled appointment to have my front brakes on my 2012 Subaru replaced at the East 96th store in Fishers, Indiana. After some research, I was attracted to the $139.99 quote in the internet ad (and with the $40 mail-in coupon!), and confirmed this with the store several days ago, making the appointment. An earlier mechanical inspection of tires (following an oil change) at my downtown mechanic disclosed the wear on the front brake pads, with the mechanic and I personally inspecting the pads and the rotors. The rotors were fine…just pads were needed. I had no pulsing when driving, no grooves and the thickness was OK on the original OEM pads.

Upon my arrival, the Service Tech “Rich” was polite and courteous, but he entered my brake job as $214 with OEM pads. I explained that this wasn’t what I expected, and that nothing was discussed when I made the appointment. The Service Manager waded in loudly, and with cuss words, that the “cheapo” pads would cause squeaking and throw off residue into the brake cavity… In other words, don’t accept the “standard” pads, but use the OEM or ceramic versions. He mentioned the upgrade in service warranty of 6 months, although that wasn’t a big deal in my eyes to justify a $70 increase. Somewhat reluctantly, I authorized the $214 and left for breakfast and some errands with my wife expecting to pick up the car around noon.

At around 10:30 am, Rich called to say that new rotors were needed (apparently they couldn’t even be turned) with additional charges of $125 or more. I instructed Rich to have the car re-assembled, and I just drove the vehicle home. We have relied on Pep Boys (and this store, in particular) for many years and purchased plenty of automotive after-market items. Perhaps this was an isolated incident, but service personnel should realize how long-time customers dislike the feeling of “up-selling” in a rude manner.

Realistically, I doubt if Pep Boys would knowingly put “crappy pads” (per the Service Manager) or other inferior products on my car. I expect common courtesy in the automotive servicing business, and I have cherished the expertise of many service techs in explaining options in the past. I recognize the highly competitive automotive repair market driving aggressive pricing strategies, but in this case, Pep Boys was out of line. This is not classic bait-and-switch advertising, but it comes close.

He finally went and asked the actual guy that did the oil change and he admitted he only used 7 quarts. The second problem is that I submitted for the rebate and after a few weeks I checked the status of the rebate and I was told that the Mobil 1 oil doesn't qualify for the rebate and I would not receive the $20. I've had other issues with Pep boys overcharging in the past but this one is the straw that broke the camels back. I will NEVER go back again.

Sometime last year I took my car back to Pep Boys for the manager's special oil change. Now I'd been bringing my car to Pep Boys on and off all last year. So, two weeks after my oil change, my car springs a leak and now the oil and the antifreeze are now mixing in my car making this liquid coming out of it looking like milk chocolate. When I call up there, they're like, "Yeah you've blown your transmission now, it's be cheaper just to get another car." I'm like, "2 ago my car was fine, I hadn't drive anywhere but to work which was like 10 minutes up the street from my house." I'm convinced they did something to it, because I hadn't had any trouble up until then. So I ended up having to trash the entire car, and get another one. That one was already paid for, so now I'm with a car note for the first time in like 20 years.

Not too long after that, my mom had to take her car up there, she thought it might be a problem with her alternator. And since she'd bought it from there, she had a warranty. So we went up there and Craig, the manager, tells her that yes, there's a problem with her alternator and he'll order her one for replacement and it should take 2 days. Now, before this, he's telling her how much it's going to cost her to get the alternator replaced, that her warranty doesn't cover labor. My mom is not happy and tells him that she feels like she's getting railroaded. He just walks away from her while she's talking. WHILE SHE'S TALKING. We go over to the counter and she hadn't raised her voice. She just feels like since she hasn't even had the part a year, she shouldn't have to be out of pocket.

So I ask him to show me the warranty since he's just ignoring her. He hands it me and doesn't even look up while she's still trying to talk to him. I'm looking over the warranty and I'm like, "wait a minute, this warranty says this part PLUS labor is covered for a a year OR a certain amount of miles." He looks at her mileage and says that yes, since she's under the number of miles that parts AND labor are free. I'm like, "Really? So if I hadn't said anything you were prepared to charge her $250 for labor on a part that's under warranty? Right." 2 days comes and goes, he never calls. I'm calling up there on the regular trying to find out where the regulator is, I get no response.

I finally get told the part is there, so I take the car up there. The guys up there know me by now, and want to know why I think the car needs the alternator replaced. I said, "Craig tested it and said it needed to be replaced." Dubious looks at this, they take the car back and test it and it turns out NOTHING IS WRONG WITH HER CAR. How do you have a manager running a mechanics shop that appears to not know anything about cars?! Never again will I or anybody else I know go to this Pep Boys. My entire experience had turned me off the franchise. Pep Boys did get in contact with me via email to copy them on my complaint on yelp, and I haven't heard from them since.

When we first came to Pep Boys, it was on behalf of our car stopping in augusta. Once we got there, Mr. ** the manager played deaf and would make black people constantly repeat themselves. Soon after that a man named Jake said he would take a look at our car and after some time, Jake returned to tell us that the tensioner for the timing belt was stuck and caused the belt to break. He showed us the tensioner but he did not show us the alleged broken belt. He told us that it would be 316 to order the parts but 932 in total to repair the problem because he would order a timing belt that came along with a water pump and he tried to dress it up by stating that it would be a wise decision to replace what was already a brand new water pump along with the timing belt, saying that it tends to go bad after replacing the timing belt. My mother agreed and he told us that he was leaving and would finish the job tomorrow.

We came back the next day, mind you he didn't call us like he told us he would and when we arrive, he has a friends car behind ours, outside of the shop working on it and the brand new parts from our car engine are scattered across a counter and mixed in with some old parts belonging to the car he was working on behind us, mind you this is against the law. Following that, we felt an instant bad feeling and he told us that he hadn't done any work and wouldn't unless we gave him the approval even though he had just told us the day prior to that day that he would be working on it and then he said if we approved it, he would open the "head" and see if valves are bent but that would cost us 2080 bucks.

My heart dropped because we were from out of town and that was the only transportation we had. And on top of that we knew the jig was up. So he basically ripped our car apart and used our parts on his friend's car, leaving us without a car and then thought we were really gonna pay 2080 for a diagnostics.. Well I'll tell you I'm writing this as I am on the Grey Hound back to Michigan. You thought **, you thought. That place is beyond shady and I would attempt to fix my own car before I bring it there because they will steal your parts and they will issue you the worst of worst problems with your car and then make you pay top dollar just so it can break down again and you can go back because the first time we went to the pep boys in Ohio, the car broke down a week later in augusta.

Pep Boys charged me 310.00 for the crank sensor that I'm not sure they even replaced. I think they broke my belt because I am a black woman and because I was from Michigan. I am going to file legal action asap!!!

Pep Boys are racist and crooks scam artists and they need to reimburse everyone including myself for destroying and tampering with vehicles. This will not be the last of me they hear from. I swear to God on this! They need to be shut down immediately! The manager acted like he was deaf and is racist as all hell! I'm sick of this **! My car was fine until they got a hold of it. They couldn't tear the body up because it was good and new parts so they went for the engine. Dirty scam racist **!

Not so long ago I went into Pep Boys for a routine oil change. Everything seemed fine. I paid and then drove off when they told me they were done. About a week or so later my oil pressure light came on and flashing. I went to check my fluids, and found that my oil was not there. It was bone dry. I paid 59 dollars for nothing but for them to empty my oil tank. I thought I was mistaken and assumed ok well maybe it's a little but nothing was in there. Not a drop. This happened while I was on the road. Could have blown my engines gaskets or worst costing thousands. My advice. If you get work done ask for your parts back so it's proof they changed it out and if you get an oil change here make sure you check your oil before you drive off. That will save you time and money. Perhaps this was a mistake. I don't know.

Was at New Jersey, Jersey City Pep Boys near 440. Already knew what the problem was for my car but they still wanted to inspect it and see if it was really that, so I let them. They did a suspension test at first which made no sense because there was nothing wrong with that and they told me the same thing. So they did a front-end check and after checking it out, they pulled out a bunch of BS and in total they tried to charge me $1300 for a $100 job.

All the car needed was the front right wheel bearing replaced, which the bearing itself cost 50 and another 50 for the job. They wanted to do both sides of the wheel bearing, the calipers, the brake pads, the rotors, and all the hoses and a power steering flush which I did a week before; and which all in all was 700 in parts and 600 in labor. So I ended up buying the front wheel bearing online for 50 and had someone else do the job for another 50 and it fixed the noise the car made while turning. These guys are out to scam you. Good to have some common knowledge of your car and the internet to see what's really going on. Don't let these people fool you.

Had to return car several times for grease on the carpets and upholstery, loose oil plug, etc. Recently, wife went in for an oil change and she was informed that she needed to have her power steering oil changed and that it was required every 30k miles. This is BS! In addition she asked them to "check" the alignment. They did a complete alignment without consulting her ($85.00). Taking advantage of a lady that trusted the "professionals"?!

Later on they found out that they only needed to change the Dipstick tube and they called me in just 30 minutes that the car was ready. I contested that I should pay for 1 hour labor charge. The guy on the counter replied, "Well we could have told you to pick the car 4 hours later and would have charged you for that much time". And he also added that initial estimation is industry standard and I will have to pay for 2 hours of labor charge. I paid that reluctantly but not sure if I should have.

Four days later they replaced the two bolt part & charged me $520.00. I reluctantly paid it then went to the next Pep Boys by LAX & asked them how much to R&R the fuel pressure regulator. They said $163 out the door. I contacted Gus, the manager of Santa Monica location and advised him I was overcharged $367 for the repair. He offered to credit me "but to keep it between us". A huge red flag, but I didn't make issue at the time... A few months later I went to redeem my credit and was told he no longer worked at Pep Boys. So I took it up with new manager. I'll continue this review shortly...

My daughter has my car towed to local pep boys after calling pep boys 800 number and being offer a 19.99 fee for towing as long as car was being delivered to pep boys for service. I called them to confirm they had call and status. The manager said i needed to buy a battery because the cars battery was dead before he could do diagnostic on car which would cost $89.50 I told him the battery in car was brand new, but could have it replaced as defective which I did and had battery delivered to shop by my son-in-law the next day a Sunday.

When I met manager at store on Monday he said the new battery they put in was drained down to 4% and could not do diagnostic but a mobile unit he could call had the equipment needed to do it at a cost of 135.00 per hour. I told I would think about it and call back maybe better to just take to the dealership for service after making arrangements. Of course the battery thing was a lie to just make a sale i have been told by every service shop i spoke to. I later called and said I would come tomorrow to settle my bill so car could be moved to dealer. When I came in manager was not there and nothing was in the computer but a charge for tolling 49.99, which I stated was not the rate we were given over the phone by pep boy, and a charge for 89.50 for diagnostic that was never done. But they could do nothing until manager came in after 12 noon, and the mechanic was off.

So I had to come back later to see manager. The manager insist nothing here can do about toll charge already on his computer and that they did some work but cannot tell me what it was or their finding except he thinks I need a new computer. I told him to write down what they did and their finding on computer receipt to show what I was paying for. He refused and said the dealer will then take his finding as true and do that work instead of diagnostic. I have high blood pressure and did not want to get upset so I paid and left never to return again. Ever one i spoke to has had a negative experience with pep boy service. I think they need new management as their days are numbered.

Service department at store #730. My family was traveling across California to Utah when our battery started having trouble. We stopped at this store where it was advertised to have free battery checks all over the walls (why advertise it if it is such an inconvenience). We asked to have someone to come out and check the battery and was told they were too busy to help. I work at a service center and I understand being too busy. I get it but, we were willing to wait until someone had a second to check it. I was very concerned driving across the desert with my young child. I needed a little bit of help to feel more secure. I have checked batteries at our service center and it takes just a few minutes of their time to help someone traveling through.

My husband went ahead and purchased a battery from your store and installed in your parking lot before leaving. Thankfully there were no issues with our alternator. Bottom line is you should have better customer service and understanding of individual customer needs. I wasn't asking much, just a little reassurance would have been nice. If we had gone to an AutoZone they would have checked it and if bad would have installed on the spot for us. No questions asked. I will not be using Pep Boys for any other auto needs at this point and will be telling others of how helpful your service department was.

I had to go to Atlanta because my son was admitted to the hospital. On the way the rim of one of my tires became displaced. I took the vehicle in, had to order another rim, which only took a day to get. The next day I asked if they could also replace the rotors and brake pads, for which I already had purchased prior (new ones in the back seat of the truck). I figured not to hassle with it on my next day off work and just let them install them. I was charged $126 for them to replace the front brake pads and $178.50 to replace the back. Keep in mind, that is $304.50 for all four sets of pads, just labor, not including the price of the pads or installation of the rotors.

Now, I'm not a professional mechanic but it only takes me an hour to replace all four sets of pads on my truck. Why did I get charged $304.50 for something that takes an hour to do? Other charges that I thought were fair, $110.00 labor to install all four rotors, $134.99 for new rim, $74.47 for extended warranty, $35 for shop fee and a few other misc. fees. Is this right? I want to say that my faith has been restored. They came through to reimburse me for the work done. I just felt I had to make sure this was known. I was satisfied with the end result.

    Original Review: Oct. 6, 2015

I went to the Pep Boys, 2399 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, GA on June 2, 2015. They said I needed an ignition control module for $156.96, ignition coil: 138.00, remove and repair spark plug wire, diagnostic: 89.99, wire set: 59.99... The total was $755.71. I had spark plugs installed by ** on 3/13/2013. The car ran OK until 9/20/15... Had to have it towed, and the closest place was AAA. They had to install a starter assembly $17621, core charge: 35.00, starter assembly: $105.30, ignition control module: $199.95, ignition coil: $88.75, ignition coil r & r: $105.30, total: $780.43.

As you see, I had to have the same work done that was done at Pep Boys on June 2, 2015. This is totally unacceptable. To make things worse, I had a new starter installed at the Pep Boys, 4105 Buford Hwy, Chamblee, GA. On May 11, 2011, and now 3 years later, another starter had to be installed. I have used Pep Boys for years, but somewhere it's broken down big time. I won't ever, ever use Pep Boys again. I even wrote the CEO, and apparently, he wasn't interested either since I've hear nothing from him either. I would suggest if you have further work done at Pep Boys, be sure it's installed correctly so it doesn't have be done over again, and charged again for the same service.

I have been a loyal customers for over 30 years, in California. When I moved to Las Vegas, I was ripped off. Approximately 2 months ago, I brought my classic car 66 Dodge Dart GT to Pep Boys on 4670 E Tropicana Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89121 to adjust the points on my car manually. The car was running great, to the point where ** (General Manager) offered to adjust the timing for free. Then came along an old hillbilly named **, who's supposedly was the big kahuna for classic cars. Said that I should go to SoCal, a high-performance parts store, and purchase an electronic ignition and a new coil for $250. After I purchased the parts I came back to the store and found out that ** was sent home for arguing with management. I made an appointment for another day and ** was not was not there for my appointment that day.

So I came back yet again another time and he was finally there. ** installs the electronic ignition after screaming and yelling at ** (Service Manager), with profanity laced with insults at each other, but more importantly the car would not run properly. Now I was told to buy a new carburetor for $400 and was to pay an additional $275 for the labor, which now I have paid at total of over $1,200. After installing the new carburetor the car still wouldn't run properly so ** and ** were fed up trying to fix my car and just told me to leave, with a car that is more broken. I called the corporate office and talked to Gayle **, which she did not want to help me. Then I called the Pep Boys Supervisor of Nevada, Shan, in which he directed me to the 4155 S Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89103 location. They tried to fix the car, but couldn't, without realizing that the carburetor was defective.

Now I have a blown engine with two bad cylinders and they had the car for 30 days trying to fix it. My car hasn't run for two months, I have lost time from work and I am currently suing them to rebuild the engine and damages up to $7,500 at the small claims court in Las Vegas. My first experience with Pep Boys on 637 E Sahara Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89104 with manager ** was another disaster, affecting the steering wheel due to shotty mechanical work, which I was able to resolve the issue out of court. I advise anyone who wants reliable car mechanical work to never trust Pep Boys as my experience with them proves it.

I went to PepBoys @ 506 S. Decatur Blvd. in Las Vegas Nevada. They sold me a power steering pump for 86.00 for my car (I had to buy it because they did not have time to do the work and I needed my car). So I paid 200.00 to a mobile mechanic to come to my house to replace the part. It worked great for a week or so then my son noticed he had to keep putting fluid in it. So he took it back to Pep Boys to find out what was wrong. They told him to come back the next day for a diagnosis. He went back and paid 25.00 for a diagnosis. They said the power steering cap needed to be replaced - the seal was bad so he went to Friendly Ford and purchased a new cap for 30.00.

Well now Pep Boys has the car once again. It was towed over last night for 24.99 and they ran a test that tells them the part is "FAULTY." They will honor the limited lifetime warranty but it will cost another 315.00 for the labor to put it in. I feel if they would have sold me a good part and not a faulty part I would not have to spend more money I don't have on this car. Plus 20.00 for power steering fluid so I have paid over 360.00 so far. I just don't have another 315.00 to do this again and I never have received a call regarding this from the store. I did call the corporate office at 1-800-PEP-BOYS about this. They said someone should call me within 48 hours.

First off, let me say I have not only had a horrible experience with one Pep Boys, but with upwards of a half dozen stores all the way from the Midwest to the west coast. Every single location was an awful experience, only to be exceeded every time by the next experience at Pep Boys at a different location. Let me begin with my experience in Indiana, where a simple break job turned into 4 visits, with damaged rims, lugs and shotty brake work, which eventually failed driving through California, causing them to fail driving up and down steep mountains.

Upon my visit to the California location, they informed me that they found various parts of the brakes were never hooked up properly and those loose parts got lodged between the breaks themselves, locking them up. I was also told, that there were parts, that I had previously paid for, that were never even installed. The California location allegedly "fixed" the problem only for the brakes to go out AGAIN as I drove through the Cascade Mountains, coming into Washington State.

In Washington, I took it to the Everett location, where they allegedly "fixed" the problem, telling me that a couple springs came loose, so they "replaced" the entire hardware kit, which ended up going out a month later. AGAIN. Now, having been at the stores over a half dozen times, I went to the Pep Boys location in Marysville, WA, hoping to start fresh and rid myself of any future terrible experiences, and to save you (as the reader) time, let me just say that this issue has reoccurred 6 plus additional times, making my visits to Pep Boys add up to something in the mid-teens.

I have spoken with the general and regional managers. I have also called the corporate office several times, being promised a call from the Vice President of the company, who has yet to speak with me about resolving the issue. Everything to do with my experience at Pep Boys has been a sickening expense to me and I'm writing this now after waiting more than a week for someone to resolve this problem, which only reflects the poor quality of their customer service and their lack of empathy, urgency or even practical sense of resolution at my request for a refund at this point is disgusting.

So, according to the customer relations line, I must wait ANOTHER 24-48 hours, at which point, they may or may not contact me, because it's been 5 days since I was promised a call the first time. I would highly recommend that no one comes here, regardless of age or experience. Nor would I consider this company anything more than another cold-natured franchise that just wants your money and doesn't care about the customer. Considering my experiences throughout the country, at each location, I would think this is enough validation for you to consider never coming or sending anyone here.

I have a 2012 vehicle with about 60000 miles on it. Early in 2015 I had an issue with brake pads that were worn down. I had my oil changed and tires rotated and Pep Boys performed a vehicle inspection without charge. They came to me in the waiting area and told me that my brakes were unsafe and that I needed to replace two front rotors and all the pads. Also a wiper blade was bad (that was true).

I went back to the service area to see what they were talking about and they showed me that the pads were worn thin and claimed that the rotors were burned and cracked. One rotor had a dark mark on it like someone had splashed oil on it and they said it was scorched. I asked about the possibility of turning the rotors and they said that never works and that there are problems with balancing and alignment and warping of the rotors so they said it was not safe and everything needed to be new.

Upon my own inspection the rotors were worn but nothing out of the ordinary. Some light wear bands which would be expected with 60000 miles. I needed pads in front, that was true but the rest was exaggeration. I took my vehicle from them and headed to another local shop that changed my pads all around and inspected the rotors to make sure they were OK. They charged me less than 200.00 where Pep Boys wanted six or seven hundred dollars.

Fast forward. Seven months and 8000 miles later with no brake issues I return for an inspection at Pep Boys. They are busy because it is the end of the month. I am told that it would be two hours. I come back in two hours and the vehicle had not been looked at. A mechanic starts to come back and forth from the back and he covers his mouth with the work order so I cannot see what he is saying to the service manager. The manager then tells me that the vehicle fails safety inspection. They had obviously checked the computer and saw where my brakes and a windshield wiper blade was bad from months before and tell me that I failed inspection because of that and now want eight hundred dollars to replace the brake rotors all around and pads and wiper blade to pass the inspection. Meanwhile I had changed both the pads and wiper blade a few months before and neither one was worn to the point of failing the inspection.

I take the vehicle to another inspection station and it passes with no issues. Of course I had to pay the inspection fee twice but I will not go back to those people ever. I have been going to Pep Boys for fifteen years. I had tires, brakes, rotations, tune ups, alignments and batteries done over the years with two different cars. The cheap tires were terrible, never getting more than 25000 on them and the tire protection plan is overpriced in my opinion but they have to make money somehow. That is fine, I was happy with them for a long time.

What they are doing here is immoral and probably illegal. Goodyear tire and rubber was fined for this and I think Firestone was also. They use a "free" inspection or state inspection to try to find things that can be blown out of proportion to scare people into paying more and doing work that may not be needed right away. People are struggling out there. They are trying to keep old cars on the road. To be overcharged and scared into paying money they do not have can be devastating to a family. They should be ashamed of themselves. Manny and Moe would not be happy.

On Friday morning at 8:50 September 25 the car was brought in for brake service. Several hours later we were told that it needed other items to make it drivable. The whole job would cost $2473.52. We were told they were going to order the parts and have them delivered on Saturday. The delivery did not happen. Pep Boys probably did not want to pay the extra fee for FedEx Saturday Delivery. They said the parts would be here on Monday. They arrived. Later that day as I called to check on the progress I was told that they shipped one wrong part and the supplier in Indiana was going to overnight it for delivery on Tuesday.

It arrived on Tuesday morning. I called at 12:30 to check on the status and was told that the car was completed except the brake light was still on. I asked what he meant the brake light was still on. I was told that was one of the complaints that we had when we brought the car in. I told him that is not true. The brake light was never on before but it did come on the day before we brought the car in to let us know we needed to get the brakes done. Other than that the brake light was never on.

The technician told us that there would be a charge of $44 to do a diagnostic to find out the issue why the light was still on. I told him in no way are we going to pay $44 for a problem that they caused. He told me I would have to take it up with Salvatore ** the Service Manager who was out at meetings and would return in an hour.

At 1:10 I received a call from Sal and he said he would run the diagnostic to find out why the light was on and get back to me. At 3:14 I called to check on the status and was told they have not gotten to the car yet. Remember this is a car that had been there since Friday and because of a comedy of errors it was still there on Tuesday. At 4:24 I called again - they still had not gotten to the car. I told them I want the car back today with the brake light off. I don't care if they had to stay till midnight - I just want it fixed. It was almost 4 hours and nothing had been done.

At 4:50 I was told the car was being looked at that very moment. At 5:21 I received a call and was told the car was done and the problem was they did not hit the reset. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? - That is 101 in the mechanics handbook. I have to say I am very very disappointed with the level follow thru at this shop. I don't know what the quality of the work is since at the time of writing this letter we have not picked up the car, but the customer treatment leaves a lot to be desired. This car should have been put at the top of the list not sit around while other customers cars were taken care of. The car was there for 5 days. I think the priorities of this service department leaves a lot to be desired.

He knocked money off and when I took our car in today 10/8/2015, we had another issue with our tire bearings, but they worked with us and gave us a good deal. Very happy. Recommend to everyone.

    Original Review: Sept. 28, 2015

We had our front brakes replaced on 9/12/2015 at Pep Boys in Lawrenceville Georgia. Everything was fine before except our front brakes after they fixed our front brakes we started to hear a knocking noise. We thought it was the brakes breaking in. The sound got worse, we took it back on 9/26/2015. Finally after sitting there for almost 2 hours they said they didn't hear the noise. My husband took the employee out in the car and it started making the knocking noise. He tells us it's our front wheel tire bearings and it will cost 350.00 plus tax. I wrote a email to Pep Boys saying this noise didn't start until after they put the brakes on. They called and talk to my husband and the manager Bill who was rude from the beginning of everything tells my husband unfortunately stuff like this happens.

Our car is 3 yrs old. I find it hard to believe it just happens in a 2012 car. My husband asked if he could knock anything off the price and was told no, nothing was wrong with our car except the front brakes and after they touched our car we're having more problems because of them. I find their answer and response unacceptable. It's a shame. We thought they were stand up people who would of done the right thing and take responsibility. We have only the one car and we're a one income family and I use the car a lot and have my 3 yr old son in the car with me but they don't care about that!! Very rude and terrible service!!

My daughter lives in Tallahassee and recently had a need to get her battery replaced in her Jeep Grand Cherokee. I knew these batteries are usually more than your normal car battery, but she called me from the Pep Boys store and told me they were going to charge her $244.00 + tax. Since I had told my recent FSU graduate that I would pay for the cost to have the battery replaced, I asked to speak with the manager as I felt this was inflated and that I was expecting somewhere around $175.00. The manager, Clinton **, explained the best he could do was a 10% discount.

I immediately told my daughter to have them jump her and to go to Advanced Auto Parts! My daughter was now obviously upset but made her way to the nearest Advanced Auto Parts. I called ahead and spoke with Bruce who assured me they would check it out and change the battery for free. My daughter called me 20 minutes later with a new battery at a total cost of $160.00 and said they gave her a soda and a free bag of chips. A father's biggest concern is taking care of their children and making sure they are not being taken advantage of. For all those parents with students at FSU or FAMU, advise your student to steer clear of Pep Boys in Tallahassee unless they don't mind being taken advantage of.

Why do you have to wait 3 to 4 hours for state inspection? Pep boys needs to hire more mechanics. Shouldn't have to wait this long. Sorry, but I feel this is a fair statement. Would not come back.

After my bad experience with the manager at Pep Boys in Rohnert Park, CA over my tires, I expressed my feelings here and a couple of other places. I wanted to make sure other people went somewhere else for their car service needs. After a couple of days, I unexpectedly got a call from Pep Boys' general manager. She asked if I would give her a chance to rectify the injustice of the way I had been treated. I agreed to come in. She told me that I, had, indeed, gotten my tires rotated when I was supposed to, so my warranty shouldn't have been voided.

To make things right, she offered me the 3 new tires I needed, plus she included a tire that had just been replaced in a separate incident, at a total cost of $161. The price of each tire would have cost me $123. She told me to only ask for her the next time I needed any service. I cannot say enough good things about the way the general manager handled this situation. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to hear that the guy who caused me so much grief had been fired. I would also like to thank Joe at Big O Tires in Petaluma. He is the person who suggested that I contact Consumer Affairs to state my feelings about the way I had been treated. Someone from Pep Boys got the message and cared enough to do something about my dissatisfaction.

I have taken my car back to Pep Boys a couple of times for service, but I not sure that I will go back again. The time I was there I specifically asked that my car not to be parked over a bumper stop, because I had just had the bumper fixed and my front end gets caught on the bumper stops and will pull my bumper off. When I went to pick up my car, it was parked over the bumper stop, even though I had watched the manager write in bold letters and circle the notation as I made my request. When I saw my car was parked in the wrong way, I didn't think to get down and look underneath the car to see if any damage had been done. I just wanted to go home, so I got in my car and went home.

It wasn't until a few days later, that I noticed my bumper was pulled away from its place a little bit like it had been before I got it fixed. "I said, oh no not again!" I realized that I remember the car being parked the wrong way over a bumper stop, but it was too late. There was no way I could prove they had done the damage. I looked on the right side and some rubber underneath had been torn also. I had paid over $1500 to get that bumper fixed. I am so disappointed that they cannot follow directions and disappointed in myself with my memory problems that I did not look underneath the car right away that day before pulling away from the curb.

One more thing about Pep Boys' new policies. They used to check out a problem for a certain amount of money. If they found something wrong with your car, they took that amount off the fees for fixing the car. Now they charge you $90 to look at your car no matter what. If they do find something wrong you have to pay for the fix, plus the $90. They used to get a lot of customers, because of their previous policy, but now they tell you it came from corporate offices that they had to make a change. I think they need to talk to corporate offices and let them know they're losing customers because of their new greed.

I came into Pep Boys to get my tires changed. I was told by another company that they did very bad things. I was always scared to go to companies like this because I am a woman and I've heard horror stories. But upon my arrival I met Bryon the assistant manager and he was AMAZING! He helped me out so much and was so honest, trustworthy, and professional. Because of the way he handled everything my family and I will ALWAYS use Pep Boys and I will also tell everyone I know. Thank you Pep Boys for having a gentleman like this to represent your company. He definitely deserves to be recognized for his efforts. Not to mention how busy the store was and I watched him handle every customer with sincerity and care. I could go on and on. I will definitely be back soon. Thanks again!!!

I got my truck in December of 2014 as a present. As it was old and needed some basic maintenance I took it to Pep Boys right next to my apartment. How are you going to say that an oil change is $31.99 and then charge me around $40. I said whatever and already had my truck there. They said it will take 45/mins to an hour. It took more like 1 hr and 15 mins. After the oil change was done my gear shift would not go out of park. I had to push my hazards in and then shift out of park. I was dealing with that for a while, took it back to Pep Boys. I took it in and explained that I was at Pep Boys getting my oil changed and after my oil change that I have problems. The guy assisting me automatically got defensive and was looking at me with a smirk, and asked. "Do you assume we did something to your truck from a simple oil change?"

I was thinking that yeah maybe they did but I decided to keep it to myself. They charged me $107 dollars to tell me that my brake switch went out. Something that could have been found out by a simple Google search. After paying the $107 I asked how much for the part and how much for installing it. (Thank God they didn't have the part because I know they would have charged me a fortune. I went to go leave to AutoZone and they unplugged my damn brake switch so I couldn't leave. They tried to keep me there and order the part and have my truck sit there. I complained right then and there. They hooked it back up and I drove to the nearest part store, bought the piece and installed it in 10 mins.

Now I took my truck in for an oil change yesterday (9/22/15) I set up an appointment and told them I may be a little late due to me coming from college class. They said no problem. I walked in around 2:05 (class got out early) and I filled out my paperwork. And I knew the service will cost around $40 bucks. They said it should be 30-45 mins. Nope. Once again they get done around closer to an hour. Once they were done I drove it home (right around the corner) then got ready for work. No problems. I get down at work and I go to start my truck. Nothing. It doesn't even wanna make noise. I automatically assume that Pep Boys has once again screwed up my truck to get more money out of me. I try to turn it again. Nothing. Still no sound. They remember being told that my truck can start from neutral or park. I go from park to neutral and try to start my car and boom it starts - no prob. I gotta figure out what they did to my truck.

I going to be leaving for class soon. If it doesn't start under park I'm def calling Pep Boys and telling them that this is an issue after you guys get got done with an oil change. And the second time. I have never had an issue with my truck starting until last minute right after Pep Boys did a "simple oil change". I wonder if they even did do an oil change on my truck.

I dropped my car off at Pep Boys on 9/18 to have a nail removed from my tire. It was a simple task and was completed rather quickly. By the time I drove my car home, the tire was completely flat. I parked the car furious. A little later I drove the car to the gas station to refill with air. I was able to get it to a friend's place where I was able to get the car in the air. To my shock, the plug they just completed was leaking.

The next morning I drove to the gas station, filled the tire with air and took it back to Pep Boys. I stepped up to the counter and explained my situation to the service writer. He indicated it would be some time before they were able to pull my car in. I stated "give me an idea of how long because I shouldn't have had to bring the car back for such a basic repair." He then became argumentative and stated he wasn't giving me a time because I would hold him to that. He then stated I'm holding him up from writing the ticket and it's wasting time. I said I'm asking because I could walk home if it takes some time. After he disputed again, he finally said two hours. At this point it was clear he had no desire to either be at work or care about my issue.

I asked if there was a manager. To my surprise, he was the manager. I asked if he was the highest manager and he stated yes. Again he said "we are wasting time because you keep arguing with me." I told him his service was just terrible. I indicated I wasn't yelling or attacking him, I didn't understand why he was antagonizing the situation. I finally said "I'm not holding you up from anything, you're choosing to arguing with me as we stand in front of your computer. There's nothing preventing you from processing the repair ticket."

Finally I asked for his business card. Then I asked if there was a store manager. He replied yes but stated he doesn't report to him so there's nothing he can do. At which point he added, "would you like my cell phone number too?" It was very clear this individual had no desire for me or service. I finally stated "I'm not sure why you continue to reply with nasty comments when I'm asking for simple things." He stopped what he was doing and said he would not work on my car. I repeatedly asked if he was refusing to fix the repair they didn't compete properly and he just ignored me and continued saying I need to be quiet. At which point I left the store where I sat for an hour with a flat tire before finding someone to put air in it. I've since contacted Pep Boys Customer Service but they said someone may not respond for 48 hours. At this point I still have a tire that hasn't been repaired and I'm left to figure out what to do from here.

I went to them faithfully when I purchased my first car, but after a few visits they revealed their true colors. 1st visit was just a check up on my car (they said it ran great, no mechanical problems). 2nd visit was to get an oil change (thought the price was a little steep for a simple oil change $80, but it's my first car and it has a lot of mileage on it so I was at ease). 3rd visit was to patch up my tire because it had a leak in it. They patched it up for $20 but didn't align my tires.

When I came back to them about a week later because my car was wobbling out of control they told I would have to pay $80 for a wheel alignment; that's something they should have done in the first place. No reason why I should have to pay for a service that comes after every tire change. Honestly I just needed them to patch up my tire, I don't understand how my car started wobbling like that in the first place but it's whatever. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE. I ended up paying for two new tires after my front tire popped. After that I haven't had any issues with my tires.

My son took his Jeep Grand Cherokee into Pep Boys in Pelham AL in Dec of 2014 because the Jeep was stalling out with less than a full tank of gas. They charged $54 to diagnose it. They told me there were acorns in the gas tank and asked if I had squirrels in my yard!!! As if a squirrel climbed a ladder, opened the gas flap and the gas cover and shoved their acorns in, climbed down a ladder & put it away. They charged me $918 to replace the fuel pump, fuel relay, clean out the gas tank and I purchased the extended warranty. They charged me for almost 7 hrs of labor even though they spent 3 hrs actually working on the vehicle.

When we got the car back & travelled to VA I noticed the Jeep took $75 to fill and did not shut off or come out of the tank. It was pouring rain. We filled it again when it was sunny and as soon as it went over $20 of gas it started POURING out of the undercarriage of the vehicle. If someone had thrown a cigarette butt near the Jeep it would have blown up and killed me and my whole family. We could only put in $15 of gas at a time. When we got back I took it back to Pep Boys and told them about all the gas I had lost. They supposedly fixed it but I had to have my sons car towed (it had a full tank of gas) and the towing co told me that when they put it on the tow bed the entire tank of gas leaked out from under the car. My son had been complaining of poor gas mileage.

I took the car to Pep Boys in FL while visiting my mother and they said in writing that the fuel pump was not sealed properly after install and was causing the fuel to POUR out of the opening. Went to Pep Boys and complained. The manager was extremely rude to me. Shortly thereafter the car failed to turn over the first time. Took 2 cranks. Took the car somewhere else and they charged me $40 to diagnose it as a bad fuel pump. Took it back to Pep Boys and they supposedly installed a new fuel pump (said the one they installed was leaking).

Got the vehicle back in worse shape than ever, took four times to start. I called them immediately and they said "bring it in Sat." The man who was rude to me before told me he didn't want to deal with me etc. I told him to deal with my son. They never called him (threatened that if I called him he wouldn't fix it). We went to get it back the next day b/c my son had to go to work the next day & needed his vehicle. They had it on the lift with hood open and told my son that they were "working on it". They had the Jeep for four days (my son missed work b/c his ride bailed and we didn't have an extra vehicle and we all had to be at the same place at the same time). They gave us the Jeep back and said it was fixed. It was worse than ever! It took 4 to 5 times to turn over.

The next weekend we took it somewhere else to be fixed and it was a bad fuel pump. I paid almost $600 to have a fuel pump installed. They also told me they had to change the oil b/c there was no sticker in the window and the oil was dirty. My son paid $36 to have the oil changed 2 weeks before and barely had the car since that time b/c it was in the shop. They never changed. The same thing happened to my daughter's vehicle twice. They claimed to have changed the oil and never did (almost lost the vehicle due to lack of oil short after having it changed at Pep Boys). Took her car to Walmart to have the oil change a couple of months after Pep Boys supposedly changed the oil. They told me that no one could have possibly changed the oil b/c a bolt had been put on the oil pan that could only be removed by a mechanic.

I went to Pep Boys and confronted the same rude man. He claimed that the Pep Boys guy who changed the oil put the bolt on. I told him that was a lie. The bolt was put on in Naples FL (in front of 5 witnesses) b/c the time before they changed the oil they over tightened the bolt & stripped it. He put the bolt on. When I confronted them again the guy bawled me out. Said he would not charge me. He told me my car was leaking oil all over. I told him I had it at Walmart 4 days before and there was no oil leak. (Walmart is honest & tells you everything). No oil spots in my driveway or on the streets. That was a lie.

I tried contacting the corporate office many times and was always told they would call me back in 2 days and never have. My son ended up losing a lot of time from work and is about to be let go b/c they said he doesn't have reliable transportation. I have all kinds of bills and statements to back up my claim. I am now suing Pep Boys. I called to ask for the manager's name at the Pep Boys in Pelham AL and he told me ** and hung up on me. Please whatever you do if you want to save yourselves tons of money and grief DO NOT patronize Pep Boys. Go anywhere else!!!

I got a flat tire caused by a nail. I had put my spare tire on and went to Pep Boys because I have a lifetime warranty. I had told the female in the tire and service department I needed a new tire. I had a flat in my tire that I have a warranty in. She told me it would be a 3 hour wait. This is at 8 am. Now going on 12 they are finally working on my van. First she tells my husband who is a retired certified mechanic that my tires were not purchased from them. We had the receipt and had her look at the computer. She then says she was looking at are other van. So we waited for them to replace the tire. So I assumed they were just going to replace it.

When we go to our van we notice it is the same tire. I asked, "Why is that not a new tire?" The mechanic states the supervisor told him to plug my tire. I asked him, "Why would I want you to plug my tire when I'm supposed to get a replaced tire?" Then he tells me my tire is dry rotted when I purchased it 9 months ago. So now we had enough. Why would you plug a dry rotted tire when it's not even safe to drive on so they are saying. And when I got there I had a functioning tire. So we said "just give me a new tire I will pay for it."

Here is the best part, they don't have the tire. So the whole time I was waiting for a new tire they never had it to begin with. So she don't look like she is at fault for me waiting there for 4 hours for no reason, tells me I don't qualify for a replaced tire because it is rotted and plugs a as they say rotted tire. The man who put on the tire looked scared. When I asked him why is that tire on there he automatically blame her, "She told me to plug it." Why she said it's dry rotted? I asked him "does it look dry rotted to you?" He says, "Yes." But I can tell he was told to say this. I'm so mad right now. We are on our way to another pep boys who has the tire keys, see if they say it is dry rotted.

It took 10 days for the tire to come in from Hesperia, CA. I live in Las Vegas, NV (3 hours away). When the tire got in, they put the tire on and when I drove off, I noticed my car was not riding smoothly. I took it to another tire company to have it looked at and PEP BOYS had NOT balanced my tire before putting it on. They had broke the cap to my rim, therefore my rim is now ruined.

I called them back and of course THEY DENIED EVERYTHING. Prior to this, I had another issue with them with a car battery. Same thing. They said battery was working and they would not warranty the life on it. I went and bought a battery at O'Reilly's and they confirmed that the PEP BOYS' battery was no good. Of course. My car started up right away when I installed the new battery. I have been a customer at that store for the past 15 years. I will NEVER use them again.

I was finally called up by Louis. He was wearing a light blue shirt. I explain to Louis that I was recently here on June 2, 2015. I towed my car in (I used Pep Boys tow service) cause it would not start. (Service work order **.) A guy (in a dark blue shirt Richard **), was the person who help me on June 2, 2015. He said that I need to get a engine diagnostic, I replied by saying "why my check engine light is not on." He replied by saying "it's electrical", so I would have to get that service (89.99). I said "ok." I was called later and said my battery was no good and I will have to buy a new one, I did (131.99).

On August 13, 2015 I used Pep tow again, my car would not start. Louis in the light blue shirt said he is going to talk to the person who wrote up the ticket (Richard **). Louis walked up to Richard ** and began to speak in Spanish while at times looking at me. At this time the store picked up a lil. I felt really embarrassed. Another gentleman was looking at Richard and Louis talk and then he started looking at me as well. I do not what was said about me are towards me but I think it rude and not fair. If I am talking in English I expect the same thing (it's respectful and common courtesy). Minutes later Richard ask was the check engine light on. We said no, he also replied by saying "the last time you was here if the light was not on they should have not did the diagnostic check." I don't think he realize he was the one that helped me out. So I left my car with Richard, the closing person was Louis **.

Since I had to leave my car overnight I asked would they put my car in the garage. They said yes. I had my son go by the shop after he got off work and my car was still outside - park in the dark away from the main building, driver door unlocked. They assured me that it will be in the garage, it was not. I went to Pep Boys the next morning (8-14-2015 at 7:30pm). I waited until the store opened and walked in. Went to Pep Boys for car inspection. Was told I needed to change the rear tires because the inside of the left rear tire showed unusual wear due to poor rear suspension which also needed to be replaced among a long list of items including front and rear brakes with new rotors. The estimated cost - $ 1,300.00. I went out to speak to the mechanic in question and pointed out to him the reason for the rubbing mark on the inside of the left rear tire (a rusted part which the manufacturer had recalled a year ago that had nothing to do with the rear shocks).

He maintained that these repairs were needed for the car to pass the inspection. I paid the $37 and took my car home. I found upon inspection that the rear brakes were low and I changed both of them including the rotors and calipers, took the car to another mechanic, and passed the inspection. In the process I saved a bundle off of the repairs that were suggested by PEP Boys. I will never set foot in their store again. Either they are deliberately lying to the public to make more money for the company or are totally incompetent mechanics.

Pep Boys decided to refund my money for the failed alternator.

    Original Review: Aug. 13, 2015

On June 24, 2015 my battery light came on. I have a 2008 Honda Pilot. It was a Wednesday afternoon and they told me it was the alternator and they could get it replaced before closing. I took it to the 2114 Gunbarrel Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421. They said it would take a little while to get the alternator replaced and I could go have dinner and come back, they would have it ready. I did just that. I sat around until just a few minutes before closing. Finally, the desk person came over to let me know it was hard to get to and could have it for me the following day. The next day, I was informed that they had broken a piece and had to get the part from the Hixson store and it would be the morning before they could get it. I got a ride and was at the store at 9 am the following morning and they did get it put together and I was on my way.

However, On Friday afternoon the 7th of August the little battery light came on again. I had purchased the battery in February 2015 and felt sure that was not the problem. However, I went back to Pep Boys and they checked the alternator and said it was fine, that it was the battery. I took it back to where I had purchased the battery in February. They check the battery and said it was fine. However they replaced it. The light was still on. I decided that I would make an appointment with the dealer to learn for sure what was going on.

I was on my way to drop off a lady here at the office that was also having car trouble. She had taken her car to the dealer. On the way my car was jerking, like it was the transmission. I was a block from the Honda dealer and pulled in. I was afraid to drive my car. I then rented a car and went back to Pep Boys. I spoke with the manager and explained what was going on, he said no problem. I understood they were going to give me a refund when I brought back the failed alternator. However, when I took the alternator back to Pep Boys they said they could only give me another alternator. That was stupid as the dealer had put in the new alternator. So what, now I have one to carry around with me. I sure don't need another one.

We have only used Pep Boys for oil changes for the past 5 years. The other day my wife took her car in for an oil change and they told her that we were responsible for stripping the plug in the oil pan. They "supposedly" told us that SOMEONE put in oversized plug in the pan back in December. Again, they're the only ones who touch our oil pan. Well two days ago they tell us that we have an oil leak because the oversized plug that they "supposedly" told us about is stripped and they want $700 to replace the entire oil pan. I called them and although the guy was nice that I talked to, they weren't willing to do anything about it (besides price match a cheaper oil pan). The oil pan for my wife's car is about $250. So $450 for labor?? No way. Never will I use this company again. Stay away.

I went in 4 weeks ago and got a set of tires (4). The price was pretty good. I was told it would be 2 hours for tires and alignment. Close to the 2-hr mark, the service manager had to go out in the garage and get the guy back on my truck for the alignment. Over 3 hrs later, my truck was done. I went out and opened my door and there was pen on my seat, and grease all over my console. Also my truck had been scratched. I filed a complaint. They cleaned the grease out of the inside, took pictures of the scratch and I was told it would be taken care of within a few days. It has been now 4 weeks and I'm still waiting for resolution. This is unreasonable and I should not have to keep calling them to get this resolved.

I took my car in the other day. I spoke with manager over the phone. He told me I would need to replace the accelerator pedal position sensor. They were not available at any dealer for under $200. So it was going to be very expensive. The price seemed outrageous. I went online to research the part and found it on the Pep boys website for well under $200. I spoke with the manager about this and told him I would purchase the part myself and have them fix it. The labor price was still outrageous. I ended up picking up my car and taking it somewhere else. I paid less than half the price there than I would've paid at Pep Boys, even if I purchased the part myself. Service was good, just very overpriced.

I purchased a tire for my leased Mercedes and it took a long time for them to get the tire on the rim. It was clear they were not qualified and when they brought the car around they had scratched the rim and didn't put the Mercedes cap back on. They promised to replace the rim and almost 4 months later they have done nothing but jerk me round. The manager, Dan has since relocated and no longer returns calls, I have his cell. I will never do business with them again!

On August 7, 2015, I brought my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo to the Pep Boys facility at 523 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell, NJ for a standard oil change, which I had scheduled earlier that day. I also brought a Pep Boys coupon for a $19.99 oil change. Shortly after my arrival the Service Representative asked me to sign a blank work order that contained nothing but an amount of $53.65. Mind you, this was for a standard oil change. There was absolutely nothing on the work order indicating what service was going to be performed. (I never have and never will sign a blank form of any kind.) When I informed him that I had a valid coupon for a $19.99 oil change, he promptly informed me that he couldn't do an oil change for $19.99. So much for coupons.

I then asked him how he had arrived at the $53.65 figure. He replied that my Jeep takes 6 quarts of oil and a special oil filter; facts that I already knew. He then said that the coupon would give me about a $7.00 discount. Either an attempt was being made by the Service Representative to bamboozle me, or I was being price-gouged; or perhaps both. I told the Service Representative to keep the coupon and I left the store. Furthermore, on a prior oil change at that same Pep Boys facility, the mechanics failed to do a tire rotation that was part of the work order, and that was part of the advertised coupon service. I discovered that failure because I had marked one of the wheels. There are probably a dozen or more facilities within a few miles of my home that offer oil changes for far less than $53.65. My recommendation is to avoid using Pep Boys.

My visit to Pep Boys on Monday July 20, 2015 had to do with a side wall bulge in one of the two tires I purchased on September 30, 2014. Upon inspection I was told the tire shows 40 to 50 wear and should be replaced. I was quoted $79 plus change, $9 less than the original cost. After some complaining the cost was lowered to $49. Mind you I had paid Road Hazard Insurance on these tires, guess that was a waste, did nothing to help. This was very upsetting as the tires were only 10 months old with only 3,319 miles on them. Also told they could not replace the tire with the same brand because it has been discontinued, and reason why? So, tell me HOW can a tire be 40-50 percent worn in 10 months with 3,319 miles on them? I don't take my 25 year old car to the race track. Well I'll tell you, I was sold JUNK and Pep Boys have no interest in working with a customer like me. So, goodbye Pep Boys and hello Firestone.

Went in for a tire rotation and front end alignment at the Pep Boys located on Gunbarrell Rd in Chattanooga Tn. One of the service advisors comes to me and tells me that they won't do my tire rotation because all my lug nuts are bad... Hmmm ok 20 lug nuts all bad. Don't think so. I asked how much were they. He said "give me a minute, will let you know." OK so still sitting there 20 minutes later. I call my husband tell him what's going on and he's says "there isn't anything wrong with them. They are trying to take advantage of you." I walked to the counter and the guy could hear my husband on the phone. They were trying to charge me 210 + 99 labor for lug nuts. I don't think so!!! My husband just changed rotors and tie rod ends on my car. There was nothing wrong with them at all. Pep Boys needs to quit taking advantage of people and trying to come up with things wrong just to overcharge people. I will not be going back there at all!!!

I turned the car over for an oil change at Pep Boys (San Fernando, Ca.) I get a phone call telling me the oil pan is ruined and must be replaced. We had been driving the car the past 5 months without a drop of oil on the ground (it is parked over a catch pan). The "mechanic" shows me that he had broken off the top most thread when he removed the drain plug. I asked him what about the other 25 or so threads inside the pan? He said the pan must be replaced. The "mechanic" in question had a hard time with the English language and was the reason for the broken thread. I asked the service manager if the "mechanics" used a torque wrench when installing the drain plugs. He said they go a quarter turn past "tight". If I were interested I would ask that a complaint be filed. As it is, I can say buyer beware when dealing with Pep Boys.
