I turned the car over for an oil change at Pep Boys (San Fernando, Ca.) I get a phone call telling me the oil pan is ruined and must be replaced. We had been driving the car the past 5 months without a drop of oil on the ground (it is parked over a catch pan). The "mechanic" shows me that he had broken off the top most thread when he removed the drain plug. I asked him what about the other 25 or so threads inside the pan? He said the pan must be replaced. The "mechanic" in question had a hard time with the English language and was the reason for the broken thread. I asked the service manager if the "mechanics" used a torque wrench when installing the drain plugs. He said they go a quarter turn past "tight". If I were interested I would ask that a complaint be filed. As it is, I can say buyer beware when dealing with Pep Boys.

I bought a battery Bosch 12/29/2012 for $112 dollar and had a warranty for 3 years. Around July 16th, my car would not start and took it back to them. They said it is fine. On July 21st, it would not start again and AAA came and checked - said, "your battery is in bad, needed to be replaced!" I do not know what kind of machine they are using, it is clearly a suspicious...pls investigate.

It seems that this is the only way maybe I will get better response from writing, instead of calling customer service. On July 10th I ordered a break kit from Pep Boys, SKU 20048860 Part # K1683 Power Stop Evolution Sport 1-Click Brake Kit (web order ** PO **). Parts arrived July 15th. Great, fast service. PROBLEM - kit contained two rear passenger side rotors rather than one passenger side and one driver's side.
Called customer service, talked to Stephany, got a case # **. She said I should receive a phone call or email by the next day. Guess what? No phone call or any email. Called on July 16th, no resolution, we will resend request to warehouse. July 17th still no resolution, talked to Akselwe, will resend request to warehouse. July 18th and July 19, so sorry, warehouse not open on weekends. July 20 talked to Allasa, still no resolution but we will resend request to warehouse. STILL WAITING. TOO BAD THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT AS GOOD AS SHIPPING. Slightly miffed.

Went in for a pre arranged via website synthetic oil change appointment in the morning at the time the store opens. I asked to have the brake fluid & wiper fluid in my passenger seat put in. My car was still on the lift 2 hours later. The attendant stated he needed to speak with me and proceeded to give me a laundry list of work that my car needed to the tune of $3200.00. The oil change itself was $19.53. The penzoil plat ecobox was $40.00. The oil filter another $7.23. I had a $25.00 coupon, still came out to $73.40. Wiper & brake fluid still sitting in passenger seat, no sticker telling me how many miles till next oil change, just bought new front tires last year and brakes with pads and rotors last inspection.
Are they for real? As if I'm a dumb bell and I'm driving my car which is totally unsafe!? And they had time to give my entire car a FULL BLOWN "FREE" DIAGNOSTIC FOR SOUP TO NUTS TO FIND OUT ALL OF ITS SUPPOSED NEEDS but couldn't put wiper and brake fluid or the info sticker in the car? And I a woman now want you to do $3200.00 worth of work on MY CAR? Then the store 21 attendant says, "oh well, you don't have to do it all at once". I say, you'll never see me again.

I purchased front brakes and back brakes from Pep Boys. I had to take my car to the dealership for a recall on the airbags. The Mechanic at the dealership wrote out a statement and emailed me pictures of the caliper slide bolt missing allowing caliper to contact rim. He informed me in writing the danger I could have encountered. I have my receipts, paperwork and pictures. I went on 5/15/2015 had the front brakes done $331.00. On 5/30/2015 had rear brakes done $328.00.

Took my 1995 Ford Ranger in for shocks. Tech broke off a part that would hold the shock. Now waiting and waiting for a part ordered from Ford to arrive. In the meantime, I was informed that a kit might help. After waiting all day, I had to call THEM to find out that their "best man" did not have time to get to me, due to state inspections. I feel the beginning of an odyssey. I will be picking my truck up TOMORROW if I have to tow it.

Nothing but the TRUTH. I thought very hard about how to express my feelings regarding my recent experience with Pep Boys Davie, FL location. I came to the conclusion that I would be very direct but honest mainly due the fact I would hate to see someone make the same mistake I did. And I do mean coming to Pep Boys to service my car. As a young woman I expected a company like this would have my best interest in mind and not try to scam me. I found that to be far from the truth given the multiple issues that I'm about to speak about. Let me first start by saying this is over 2 months in on a simple visit to Pep Boys for a flat tire. Over the past two months the following issues have occurred: (Not in specific order but I tried my best to not skip around)
My 20 chrome rims cracked but were replaced by Pep Boys (Simply due to their error). My rims were no longer sold so they were forced to buy a new set only through their selection NOT the same rims I had before or brand (Cheaper Brand.) Multiple issues trying to get the lug nut off my tire which lead to the cracked rim while being car-less for approximately 2 weeks or more. Inconvenience of NO car and POOR follow up from service Manager Gregg **. Received car back with new replaced parts and rim set but now I had two sensors on. (FYI there were NOT on when I gave them my car) Both the TVS and ABS were on (My car is new as of 2012 with no prior issue or parts replacement as of that date of Pep Boys touching it.)
Took car back to service manager to fix sensor issues which AGAIN they had multiple issues fixing and struggle through different mechanics. Again car-less for another week for their many failed attempts to figure out what they did to MY car. Finally I was referred to Honda my dealership to check my car by service manager Gregg ** because they couldn't figure out what they did wrong (hmmm... more of MY time and such an inconvenience.) Due to the already 3 weeks w/o my car (hello I have a life and job to keep) I was not able to take my car to the dealership until 2 weeks later (Keynote: Remember I stated I drove my car 2 weeks the way it was given to me from Pep Boys).
Upon my service review from Honda I was told my wheel bearing was put in backwards which was causing the sensors to not read. (NOTE: The service Manager tried multiple times to get sensor to read but clearly he didn't check the part that was installed in my car.) I sent the service review to Pep Boys as directed to and till this day my car is still at HONDA unfixed. I have been going back and forth to receive a check for the mistake they made.
I have NO car nor did I even get an apology until I spoke with Jody who was BTW really nice but it's not her fault and she was not the person I was dealing with. I don't even know her title. I am disgusted by the fact I requested more than 4 times for the regional manager Randy to contact me and get involved with this case. After numerous times of calling into the 1800 client relation line and being told 24-48 I will hear from him, I never did. What a shocker that he doesn't even care how his customers are treated. This shows the lack of customer service. To the Regional Manager you should take more pride in the customers you serve and step in when clearly something isn't handled appropriately. The inconvenience your store has caused me will NOT go unheard. I PROMISE you that because YOUR store has caused me a HUGE headache and car-less (And yes I am still making payments on it.).
You should be ashamed of yourselves and I hope no one treats your Mother, Daughter, or sister the way I have been treated. But then again they probably know better than to go to Pep Boys. You don't deserve the $740 dollars I originally paid because you did not service me properly. In fact, for all of my time and effort to get this issue resolves I deserves more. I deserve to be compensated for MY time and the way I had to figure out how to get around. I really would think you would expedite a claim that was only done because of YOUR Company's wrongdoing. You should read my case before you decided to ignore me again!! I will NOT go away. Store Location: Pep Boys Auto Parts & Service. Address: 2380 S University Dr, Davie, FL 33324.

Pep Boys sold a Prostart Battery Platinum edition which is marketed and advertised with a 7-year prorated warranty. The battery died at two years. There were 5 whole years left on the product warranty. I contacted the Corporate Office and sent in letters and documentation. I made several telephone contacts. For six years this company made excuses and engaged in repetitious questions without returning my money. The money is my property that the company held in their possession. They did not care to return my property or produce a solution to this longstanding issue. The batteries are not reliable. The company is dishonest and does not enact ethical principles in its treatment of its customers. Stay away and look for an honest company.

I had my vehicle serviced in Ocala Florida on January 31st 2015. The store, always a pleasure to deal with. I have no problems with the location. My problem is corporate inefficiencies. My service was well over $1000. The reason I chose Pep Boys was that they offer rewards points based on services. So, I was due at least $50 in rewards credits which expire. The problem? I never received them. Trying to get a word through customer service is like climbing the Berlin Wall. No response on the #. Had to resort to tweeting their customer service. They responded with a customer complaint number and asked me to email Pep Boys Social.
I did so on 6/25 and received a response on 6/27 that my complaint was forwarded to rewards services and that they would reach out within 48 hrs. Well it's now July 14th, nothing, nada, no response. I even sent a followup to the original email response from a week ago. Nothing. Well. If this is how they value customers who regular visit their locations, I will say that is a reason I need to visit other vendors. I guess they don't realize that the $50 gets spent towards the service they do so in a way they don't lose money but gain it through repeat visits. I'm done. They lose a loyal customer over nothing. I plan on sharing my review on social media so others will see my experience before they decide to sign up for this rewards program.

I had bought a tire on the right side of my CRV and not only could the Irving TX Pep Boys on Beltline Rd. not find my info on the tire I had bought that was under warranty... they said I would have to buy a new tire. I had no choice, so I had to buy a whole other tire (because I didn't want to drive on the rim). That isn't the end of it though. I waited 3 hrs for them to begin to even change the tire. As the group laughed, joked AND ate in between NOT doing anything that I could see. This has been a very unpleasant experience and money I didn't have to spend.

Bought a battery from Pep Boys in Patchogue, NY and had them install it. The next morning the car would barely start... as if it was a nearly dead battery. Took it immediately back and told them about it. The guy there said they'll check the battery, but first I have to pay $18. I told him I paid over $200 the night before. He said I had to sign forms and pay first or they wouldn't even look at it. I was angry and told him I'm not paying him to check the battery... At which point he said, with a big smile and goofy tone, "then have a nice day" and walked away. When I got back to my car outside the store, it was completely dead. I'm sorry I went there and never will again! I recommend the same to everyone. They flat out robbed me!

This is Pep Boys in Fayetteville, NC on Skibo Rd. Mechanic took my car for a test drive. When he came back he told me that the noise was coming from a bad wheel bearing on the right front. I affirmed that noise was coming from the left front, not the right front. He insisted that he had diagnosed correctly. He also said that two motor mounts were broken, the right CVC joint was bad and if I wanted this all fixed, the cost would be 1400.00. I am 69 years old. I have Shade Tree repaired cars most of my life. The price and the list of problems seemed absurd to me.
To give the mechanic the benefit of the doubt, I permitted the right front wheel bearing to be replaced. Before I paid, I asked and was permitted to take the car for a test drive. The noise problem that I had in the left front was still there. I was getting pissed. The associate wanted me to pay the bill, over 300 dollars. The car had been on the lift from 9:15 am 'til just past 3 pm. I refused and wanted to speak with the manager. I had met the regional manager one day prior and knew his name.
The associate wanted the mechanic to come in and talk with me to strengthen the case that the bearing was bad and needed to be replaced, regardless. I said no. I want another mechanic to drive the car and assess my problem. A second mechanic took the car for a ride. He put the car back on the rack, changed the wheel on the front left to the rear and the problem went away. He said that the radial in that tire was separating and caused the noise. He was correct.
The female in-house manager came over and I explained why I did not feel I should have to pay this bill. I asked for the old wheel bearing to look at wear. It was presented to me and I took a shop cloth, cleaned it up so that I could inspect it closely. There was some light wear but the bearing was in great shape, including the bearing race. I told the manager that I see nothing wrong with the wheel bearing and that I would be willing to take the bearing over to the Honda dealership and get a written evaluation on my dollar. If the dealer said the bearing was bad, I would gladly pay the bill.
The manager seem to get more agitated and would not agree to proposal. I then said, "Do you want to call "**" (regional manager) or should I?" She said that she could not forgive the bill at her level and would need to call someone. I just assumed that would be **. I offered to pay the cost of the new bearing if she would drop the labor. She came back about 10 minutes later and said that she had gotten approval to just charge me for the part.
Based on the above, I wouldn't even walk into Pep Boys, anywhere for repairs or buy parts. This was a very stressful event. Just don't need this kind of business in my life. I am continuing to warn everyone that I can. In this process, other folks shared with me their own private nightmare with the same Pep Boys location. Just very sad about having to go through that experience.

My daughter takes her car to Pep Boys because the belt broke along with the pulley. These guys start with a 380 dollar estimate and ended up with a 817 dollar bill. I asked if they do inspection since the car is there, and yes they can. This is where it get interesting. I was told the control arm and all the bushing on the front end were bad. Interesting, 53 thousand miles on a car and the front end is bad. Now it will cost $1700 to do that work. They were told just do the work to get the belt replaced along with the broken bolts.. Okay they get the car repaired and my daughter picks up the car. She gets one block away and she loses power steering and the battery light comes on. Now she and I are both pissed. I cannot wait to call this morning and see what happened.
I just want to get the car back so I can take it to a REAL service facility. How can they take advantage of people and feel good about what they charge. They seem to work off the fact that most people do not know much about cars so they can sell outrageous repair prices or work that does not need done. I do not think I will be going to a Pep Boys. I suppose they survive because there are lots of people to feed off of. Remember for everyone unhappy customer you lose, you lose another 10.

It was the 4th of July, surely no one would be open let alone be able to fix whatever the problem was. After searching online, I was pleasantly surprised that a Pep Boys near me (Pep Boys #146) was not only open on the holiday - but was told I could bring my car in. It was determined that my starter went out. These guys replaced it, changed my oil, rotated my tires, AND installed lift supports under my hood in a couple of hours even though I had no appointment. I discovered when I picked up my car that they were overbooked & understaffed that day. I'm beyond grateful to them for coming to my rescue on a holiday, and would recommend these guys to everyone!

Store #310 Kissimmee FL. I have been a customer of PepBoys for many years and during this time I have watch what used to be a caring, trustworthy and reputable company go to a company that sees each customer that walks through the door as a "cash cow" and try to milk it for as much as they can get from them. If you take your vehicle there for a simple problem, they go looking for other things then present you with an exorbitant bill for those things you didn't ask for. Then they make it seem like if you don't repair what they are suggesting, the vehicle would fall apart or not work properly. I have seen and experience this trend of dishonesty with their stores around the country (I travel a lot) but my experience yesterday was the worst when I went to this store in Kissimmee FL.
I purchased a battery from them about a year ago with a three-year warranty. The battery failed to crank my car so I called the company to inquire how to go about having the battery replaced because of the warranty. After speaking to two employees on the telephone and them telling me they could not locate my information in their system, I decided to go to this store and take the battery. After testing the battery and determining the battery had a bad cell the sales rep asked for my contact information. He immediately located my information in their system without any problem (two other guys said it wasn't there) but started he acting erratic as if he was confused. He started turning the battery around and around trying to find something he could use not so he wouldn't have to honor the warranty.
When he located a sticker on the battery showing the date that the battery was shipped to PepBoys he decided to use that date instead of using my information which was in front of him in their system showing the exact date the battery was purchased. He then tells me that I would have to pay $80.63 for a new battery. I asked him why when I only had the battery for just over a year and there is a three-year warranty on it. He then tells me that the battery warranty had expired and he is pro-rating the price for a new battery. When I refused to pay and asked him why he was using the ship date on the battery instead of using my information in his system, he started acting arrogant telling me he needs to see my receipt. This was being dishonest to the highest degree. If my warranty had expired (which it had not) why are you telling me about pro-rating the price?
He then goes and bring back another person and when that person started using the information in the system he speaks to him in Spanish and points to the ship date on the battery. While the discussion was going on another lady comes up and was very rude. At that point, for me it was no longer about the battery. I left the store and purchased a battery from another company. I will not go back to PepBoys. Beware!!! PepBoys is no longer about customer service and Integrity is no longer there!!!

My experience with this store over the past two months has been a nightmare!!! I had my car towed to this location back in May due to my 20 inch rims getting a flat tire and the lug nut would not come off. Before I continue, please note I had the same lug nut issue and took it to this location and they were able to replace tire, no problem!!! This time around not so much! After a few days of pep boys having my car I was told that they could NOT get the lug nut off my car and they would have to replace the wheel bearing and hub. So my price jumped from 225 to 749ish. Huge difference but what I was supposed to say... they are suppose to be the experts and advise me that they tried everything to take the lug nut off but It would not come off.
I moved forward with the replacement. A few more days passed (BTW, I am still car less) I get a call stating in the process of them trying to replace part they cracked my chrome "20" inch rim and they apologized and told me the manager will contact me the following Monday which it was a Sunday. Monday came of course, I did not receive a car. I called on Tuesday to follow up and spoke with manager and they told me they would of course replace my rim but I had to pay for the wheel bearing replacement/hub still. A few more days passed and they could not find my RIM so they offer for me to come down and choose a whole new set of rims on them of course.
Sounds like a nice deal right but I still paid 740 for labor/parts but hey I got new rims right!!! Ok, so finally I get my car and notice extra lights on the dashboard that were not on before. They told me the lights would turn off. One like eventually did the others did not. The "TVS" and "ABS" remained on. I texted manager to let him know and he told me to bring car back. I did. I left the car with them again and was told the sensor was left off. The manager told me he would replace for free. GREAT, right!!! Well, the light still not turn off and he then tried to tell me a more experience tech was coming the day and he would look at it. So again, another day passed and he then ordered different sensor after the failed attempt from the more experience mechanic..
Finally I was told from the manager that they "could not fix it and tried everything." I was then referred to my dealer and told to contact them if it's something they did wrong. The manager was very apologetic but I hope you can understand my frustration by this point. I have been moved than understanding. Longer story cut short, my dealer told me after the evaluation that they put the wheel bearing in backwards!! To my surprise the experience mechanics that told me I needed to get this part replace did not even know how to install it in properly, hence why the sensors they tried not working. I texted the manager if he could talk so I could explain what they said "no response."
I waited a day then called the Client relation line too for my second complaint. Two days later, a person who was not a manager tells me to bring in the paper from dealer to, again, the same service manager I've be dealing with. I was not happy with this!! I called the client relation back requesting a general or district manager call me. I was told they are not in on the weekends which is why they probably did not call me directly but they should call me Monday or Tuesday the latest. Today is Tuesday and I have yet to hear from ANYONE. My car is still at HONDA and I have NO car. At this point I have contacted my lawyer. So warning to anyone with a minor problem, this location will turn it to a MAJOR problem. Learn from my story!!! Sorry for all the mistakes... It's all the frustration!!!

Store 310 in Kissimmee FL, I went there today because my car was overheating. They quoted me one price and I agreed only because the normal mechanic I use was very busy and could not do the repair until Monday and I needed my car today. After telling me 7 times it would be 30 more min they final finished, I went to pay and almost had a heart attack. The $1500 bill was 3 times what they told me for a 3-hr job, I was billed $857 in labor. When I complained I was told I could pay it or have a lien put on my car, that it is what it is or if I keep complaining they would call the police on me and keep my car.
I asked for corporate office number and was given a local number that was suppose to be corporate. I left several messages and still have not heard back from anyone. The worst part of this entire experience is I asked for the used parts back and have since taken them to my normal mechanic I have used for many many years along with 2 other garages and none of the 3 can understand why they needed to be replaced in the first place. Please beware and careful. I truly believe God sees everything and He will take care of this for me and if this review saves one hard working person from getting ripped then it was worth taking the time to write it.

Well, after all that the air conditioning still wasn't working and my car broke down because it turns out they sold me a compressor. This is 2 months of trouble with these people. I ended up having to buy a rental car because the compressor they sold caused other issues. I'm out of pocket $700. You guys suck!!!

Just got back from Pep Boys where they tried every way to overcharge me for an oil change that I had a $19.99 online coupon. First, they tried to charge me for 6 quarts of oil... my car does not need 6 quarts of oil. When that didn't work, they tried to charge me $19 for an oil filter when only $3.25 extra was allowed with the coupon. The total was going to be $36 and change... almost double the $19.99 coupon. It had already been 10 minutes of typing in numbers and going outside to get my VIN # to make sure I didn't need 6 quarts of oil, etc. Thank goodness I asked for an estimate before agreeing to the oil change. This was a blatant attempt to jack up the price of the oil change. SO DON'T THINK YOU'RE GOING TO GET A BARGAIN BY PRINTING OFF THE ONLINE COUPON!

Since I have gone to different mechanic, coolant/anti freeze was added and I have not had any heating issues with the car in like 3 weeks. So Pep Boys just lost my business. Spoke to a complete stranger yesterday that had the same problem.

I attempted to report this that evening but their site was not working. I did report the incident the following morning (case **). Although I received a call from the store manager after my complaint, I am still waiting for the claim form the manager promised to send. An attorney claiming to represent Pep Boys left me a voice mail to call her back on June 2. I did but have heard nothing from either the manager or the lawyer. Their ad asks customers to "let the Boys move you". Over a 20 year period, my adverse experiences with this store (and now its attorney) would beg people to take their business elsewhere. They're unreliable at all levels. They don't even deserve a star.

If you think this place is fair to their customer, 100% WRONG. I received new tires for my car and 5 months later my tires were worn. I brought my car in and asked them to take a look why the tire was so worn. They stated my car needed 2 new tire rods. I told them I was going to get a second opinion. The second opinion came back - no problems with the 2 tire rods. My tires were leaking because when they put on the tires the tech didn't clean the beads. That is something the tech should have done. The tech just slapped the tires on and called it a day.
I brought my car back and requested new tires and front end alignment. They came back and told me my tire rods were ok but the bearing on my left front tire were bad. I did receive new tires but they wouldn't do the alignment until the left bearing was fixed. Do you think I am going to trust this place again? I went back to my trusting repair shop. One of the guys said that he would look into it and when he came back he told me that no service had been done. Basically my car was in the parking lot in the same spot where I had parked it in the morning. When my brother in law and I went in, we heard the associate say "these aren't the right parts" then typed something into the computer and said "okay this is fine, you're all set" and we went on our way. I figured maybe he thought the parts were wrong then after checking the computer thought it was okay. Upon working on the brakes a few days later my brother in law said they indeed gave us some wrong parts. He went into the store and they didn't have them in stock so he ordered the correct ones.
When they came into the store he brought back the incorrect parts and the receipt to show it was an exchange. The man said "well I have to charge you for these" even though he had receipt and untouched incorrect parts. Then he my brother in law pointed it out and the man said "okay well it was my fault anyway so I'll let it slide." This is insane as he knew from day one the parts were wrong yet gave it to us knowingly which delayed my front brakes from being done over a week longer and then tried to charge us even though I prepaid for the parts. I took my car into Pep Boys of Athens, Alabama last December (2014) to get a timing belt job done on my 1997 Honda Civic. Everything seemed well until this last week. I was driving home from a trip about an hour and a half away on 5/15/2015 when my check engine light came on. When I got home I looked in my engine bay and the crank position sensor wire was rubbing on my timing belt. I felt of the wire and the timing belt had rubbed through the wire leaving two bare wires shorting out against each other. I got up the next morning 5/16/2015 to take my car back to Pep Boys and had a strange noise coming from the engine. I figured it was a problem with the sensor and the guys at Pep Boys said that it was covered under warranty.
I went back to pick my car up 5/18/2015 and it was still making the noise but the sensor had been replaced. I took it right back and they worked on it for another day. When I went back to the shop on 5/19/2015 they said that the A/C compressor bearing had gone bad and that it was causing the noise. They quoted me $1200 to fix the A/C issues. I told them that I believed it was due to the sensor issue initially and the Assistant Manager, **, shrugged it off. He said that it was purely coincidence that those two issues happened at the same time. I told them to leave the A/C belt off as to not damage the engine further. The manager, **, was not there so I took the car home to deal with it later.
I got up this morning 5/20/2015 to drive the car to work. On the way home from work I was going about 70 mph and heard something come loose in the engine bay. When this happened my engine began making bad noises. I made it home and looked in the engine bay. What I saw was the A/C idler pulley lodged against my drive belt and drive pulley. The mechanic had left this pulley loose in the engine bay and it was grinding against the belt and pulley in the car. This could have been a lot worse and myself or my wife could have been involved in a breakdown or accident due to this mistake.
I would like this situation to be made right and I plan to speak with ** when I am off work and he is in the shop. I do not believe that the A/C issue is a coincidence and I am disappointed in the shoddy work that has been done on my car. If there is anything that the corporate or local office could do, it would be greatly appreciated.

I called in to make an appointment (I must add that I was expecting/willing to give them my business to fix the problem once they diagnosed it), but upon explaining the situation this is what the salesman said to me "Yeah I've been getting a lot of calls about the free A/C inspection, all we do is reach our hand in your car and see what temperature the air is that's coming out. The real inspection costs $60." What a joke. An auto shop bases its business off reputation and honesty, and Pep Boys is far from honest. I wouldn't trust them.

You should add another 4-5 mpg to the tank." I'm told the flush should last about 45 mins to an hour. 2 hours later, the job is FINALLY done. I pay the 145.00 for the flush, hop in the truck. Press the accelerator and lo and behold, engine light pops on and the truck starts jerking wildly. I'm like, "WTH!" I've had this truck a little over 5 years and put over 100,000+ miles on it and NEVER, I mean NEVER has the engine light ever come on. I whip back in the parking lot to ask the manager why the light came on and his response was "I knew it would." WTH! He puts the little OCD reader to it and resets the P0068 code. Engine light goes out and I'm on my way.
Less than 3 weeks later the engine light pops back on and the wife has to get truck towed from her job because it won't start and this is at 1130 at night, 35 minutes away. On my way to work the light comes on AGAIN. This time it's jerking when it change gears. WTH and WTF I say to myself. Enough is enough. On my way I go to the Dodge dealership, herking and jerking. They put the diagnostic to the truck and it runs the same freaking codes, P0068 as Pep Boys. I'm there for at least 4 hours. The mech recommends a fuel flush and replacing the TSP. I say "No, that's why I'm here now because of a freaking flush, that's ok." The weekend comes and I buy and replace the TSP sensor, IAC valve, MAP sensor, replace ALL this and still the same as it was after I left Pep Boys the very first time and there after, herking and jerking. Pep Boys ** my Durango up and I'm preparing to contact my attorney. All I want done is for my Durango to run as it did before I went to Pep Boys. They should be shut down. Well 10 minutes later after driving it close to home it stalled out and wouldn't restart then when it did start the starter in which I had Pep Boys put on caught fire. I then had to have it towed along with calling the fire dept and police to redirect traffic. I talked with the manager and he said they weren't responsible for parts brought in. I've dealt with the same auto parts store and the parts are warranted as long as they are installed properly. If something catches fire that you just had installed and wasn't test driven before allowing the customer to deal with mistakes made on the mechanic's part and management's for not double checking work. I had a new key switch put in and while the car was in accessory mode it started on its own. But when it did start the starter kept clicking. I only had liability and this was a real eye opener for me.
To top things off Pep Boys said the vehicle was ready in which I spent a lot of time getting the parts needed to correct the issue. Well they never put 3 of the parts on that I brought nor did return them - they gave me empty boxes in which I then had to go back and get them. I had a brand new factory purchased battery cable that I can't return cuz it was special ordered that looks better than the homemade they rigged up wrapped with electrical tape. Makes absolutely no sense after charging $115 an hour labor.
I bought a battery in which the one I had was until warranty from Wal-Mart but was drained due to either the starter or key switch but they never installed the ignition switch. I spoke with numerous mechanics about the situation and they all said the same thing. Installed with a wire touching metal. This is a SERIOUS matter and if I don't hear from upper management with a solution I will handle it maybe by calling a TV station or lawyer if need be.

My car was just fine until I brought my car to Pep Boys. From there on out everything just kept falling apart that they did service for. They scratched up my car on the driver side glass with their tools. I guess while fixing the motor on the window which they stated they had to replace twice because of a defect motor (RIGHT). The technician ** parked my car next to a truck so that the passenger hit my car with their door and scratched off paint on the driver’s side. I had my radiator flushed and I live ten minutes from the Pep Boys. When I got home all the fluids were just coming out of my car.
The car ran hot. All the antifreeze had came straight out of the radiator. So when they worked on my car they damaged my radiator. There was a crack at the top of the radiator next to where you seal the cap. That was another issue. They broke the cap on the radiator. Replaced it but the car still overheated because of the damage they did on the radiator. So now I'm stuck with a car that has to be towed to be serviced. I could just keep adding antifreeze in my car just to get to the shop to have the car fixed. I did have to do that once to go to the parts store to have them look at my car. I had two technicians state they never properly flushed the radiator. They caused damage to the radiator so they just left it like it was. I have to have it serviced after being serviced.
I would be scared to death to send it to Pep Boys again in Dacula because of all the lies and mistakes. The mechanic ** does not know what his doing. He kept talking back to me in a rude manner. They just keep making excuses for each other. ** the manager runs and hides. Whenever I call he just passes the problem onto his Assistant Manager and the front service clerk. He is supposed to check behind his workers. When I was in there another girl was complaining about her car shaking after getting new tires. They forgot to do something that caused her car to shake when she drove it.
I paid 100's of dollars and my car has been nothing but trouble. I never had any issue with this car before. I only needed the window fixed and an oil change. So I thought okay while I was in I will have them look at my car. BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE... I tried my best to be nice but please don't take your car to this Pep Boys in Dacula. Read the reviews on Yelp and with Consumer Affairs. When you do you won't do service there.
I had an oil change while I was in the shop. I asked them to look at the car and they stated it would cost me $50.00. It states in the shop with an oil change you will receive a rotation etc plus a free service check on your car. Then why did I have to pay them $50.00? Everything they did was a complete failure. They lie about everything. They talked me into driving me home so they could keep the car. Well little did I know they were damaging my car and also not finishing their work. I have spent over a week with all this craziness and like I said I have a car that is not driveable unless I continue to pour antifreeze down it or get it fixed.
After ** tried to con me about helping me with my car and I told him I will not be jerked around. They offered to refund me. They were the coldest most unfriendly people when I went to get my refund. But they still owe me part of the money for the service rendered. I went to two different parts store around the corner from this shop and they both stated they have a lot of people complaining that they do poor service. They get a lot of complaints about them not putting the oil filters on right. I also oil all under my car. And I have several oil spots on my driveway. I want the remainder of my refund and I want them to repair give me services for the radiator. But I want to be sent to another shop. Not one time did corporate office ever apologize or did anything about one of their stores causing so much frustration to a customer. I really don't think they care about anyone's complaints. Shows you what type of company they are.

After demanding they fix the rattle they created, they held my suv a week telling me every day a different story as to why there's a new rattling. After being carless for a week and calling daily, they told me it was being towed to the dealership it came from and that they would pay to fix the damage they caused.

The police was called only then was the G.M attempting to help us. The service manager agreed to assist us but upon getting the cost of the damage partially backed out.
We spoke to higher management whom appeared very helpful at the time and then I felt like I begin getting the run around only for a claims agent to call and DENY our claim. I have never had a bad experience with the Pep Boys near my home in Broadview, IL but this particular store here due to emergency car stall we ended up here and I regret every minute of it. RUN RUN RUN. Do not ever take your car here because they don't give a ** about your business.

First they told me over the phone that the diagnostic test would be an hour. So I came in for my appointment and they said it's not an hour. I have to leave it all day which I couldn't do and wasn't prepared for and they didn't apologize at all. My husband still wanted to bring our car to them so we did drop it off on another day. It was running perfectly, it felt good.
Our only concern was that after we parked the car white bad smelling smoke would pour out from under the hood. When we came back to pick it up it would not start! They said they would look at it, they forgot to put something back. Then we tried to leave again this time it was shaking terribly and would just die. We got it back to shop. They looked at it and said they could do this or that for a price but they wouldn't help us for free for whatever they broke and messed up on the car! They never apologized or offered us a discount or anything. Horrible mechanics and horrible service at the desk so rude. Everyone working at the pep boys on west lane in stockton is a total low life.

Recently, I needed O2 sensor replaced. Pep Boys on 9 Mile Rd. said that did just that and charged me $285. The short story is 3 visits later to Pep Boys, and another $285 the problem was not fixed. Took the car to a real mechanic and found out that they not replace the O2 sensor they charged me for. When I called the shop and spoke to the manager. He repeatedly apologized but told me he couldn't help me unless he could see the receipt, see the part the other mechanic took off the car, and INSPECTED the car. LMAO.
He has a copy of the computer generated receipt and I offered to give him the invoice #. He says he could not credit the card unless I was in front of him. LMAO. I wasn't in front of them when they ran that same number on the same card to charge the amount due for services NOT rendered. I was considering writing corporate, but after reading all of these complaints. I think I'll dispute the charge with the credit card company and if they choose to side with thieves and frauds nobody gets any more money out of me. They can work it out among themselves.
It's been a month of back and forth to a mechanic, forking out money, and stress. I wish I had seen all this before I took the recommendation to go there. Notice on the receipt it says old parts returned? They write no... I have uploaded a picture of the part that PB say they replaced, but the mechanic who REALLY fixed the car gave me to show me the rust. He also showed me pics of where it was located on back part of the engine and how it was rusted. This meant that is was factory not newly installed.
It if wasn't so financially crushing, it would be funny ~ got money to throw away?! Enjoy fraud?! Well Pep Boys is the place for you... Go sit in a waiting room for FOUR hours while they do nothing and charge you! Evidently I paid about $90/hr to sit in their shop. I sure hope others do better research than I did. I trusted a friend's recommendation. NEVER AGAIN! I will tell everyone I know to stay away from Pep Boys. They are thieves and frauds and liars. I say this because after lying and stealing the $285 for services NOT rendered, would you believe they wanted to "FIX" my brakes??! I would hope someone would contact me from corporate, but I suspect they've gotten all they can from me, so they no longer have a need to communicate.

The manager attempted to swindle me after spending $2200. He told me I needed a switch I did not need after loosening my battery cable. He had to give me a jump so he knew the cable was extremely loose. Instead of tightening it he sent me on my way disappointed that I didn't fall for his scheme. This is the second time this happened. The repair costing $2200 has almost doubled in rental cost because the problem is still not fixed. I spent an additional $800 min insurance because of the insurance on the rental vehicle. They over promise and under deliver. I was promised rental vehicle and had to call around to Pepboys finance dept just to get it approved. Something the manager should have done. This happened twice! I'm always promised a call back and never receive one from area manager or corporate.
At this point I just want a refund. It is obvious the company cannot fix my vehicle seeing it keeps breaking within weeks of getting it back. The staff is always friendly but lying is still highly upsetting and unprofessional. I will be forwarding this matter to my attorney in due time and will have him contact the company seeing as though I cannot get a proficient solution to this matter.

Pep Boys offered a free brake inspection, so I brought my car in to have them inspected while getting my wheels balanced. After they were done they told me that my brake systems were fine except for the recommendation of having my rotors serviced with their laser. However, when I was driving back home, my brakes felt very soft. So I opened up my hood and checked my brake fluid. It was completely empty. So I thought one of the technicians must have bled some of them out. So I refilled it by going back to Pep Boys and added with what it said on my car manual. After a week passes, my brakes felt weird again and I check my hood again, and see that my brake fluid is empty again. So I add the brake fluids in again so I can drive it around until I can bring it into the shop so that they can have a look at it.
When I do bring it, the person who was in front of the area was very rude, and kept contradicting himself when I asked questions. So I asked for the manager, and told him of my situation and this employee that I talked to in the beginning said with a rude tone "You waited a week to bring your car in after your brake fluid was low?" So of course the manager had to tell the employee to go away, while apologizing to me, and now all they are saying is bring the car in again tomorrow because apparently the brake technicians already went home. Now I spent almost 30 dollars on brake fluids to keep them constantly at full, and I am very mad the poor customer service, and I don't think I can ever bring my car or my families' car into Pep Boys ever again after this incident.

PEP BOYS at 9704 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Vehicle: 2012 Camry SE 4-cylinder. On Friday April 10th I called a few automotive places to see what would be my best price point for tires. When I searched your inventory I found a tire that I was interested in which was the Cooper 215/55R17 Ultra Touring. I was interested in this tire because it had awesome reviews. When I called to make the appointment the first time I was hung up on twice and then the third time I finally got a man named ** who was helpful and pushy at the same time. ** quoted me the price for the Cooper tires and informed me that there were 4 in stock. My total would come to 602.00 after an alignment and the tire package before tax. This was a great price considering all the other places that I called and I decided to make the appointment. I made my appointment for 8:30 am on Saturday April 10th 2015.
After hanging up the phone and sitting for a bit - I decided to look up the reviews for this location considering I had never used this place before. To my surprise the reviews were horrible. Total of 3 stars out of 5 with 28 reviews - not a good sign. I decided to call back because some of the comments made me very uneasy. When I called I spoke to a young lady by the name of **. I expressed my concern and she assured me that I would have a good experience and that they took good care of their customers.
I also asked if once I made the appointment did they take the tires out of inventory and her response was NO. My next question was - what's the point of making an appointment if I was not guaranteed the tires considering there were only 4 left in stock? I was disconnected and of course I called back. This time I get ** and I ask the same question. He tells me that if I made the appointment then the tires do reserve for me. I thanked him for the info and asked if he could check the system one more time just to make sure so that I would have peace of mind. ** became irritated with me on the phone and made it seem like I was bothering him. He asked me in a condescending tone "Well what do you mean check?" I repeated my concern for me showing up in the morning and not getting the tires. He then rushed me off the phone and assured me the tires were in stock.
Okay this point I normally would take my business elsewhere but the tire package deal was so tempting. I just thought maybe these guys were super busy and just had a bad day. April 10, 2015. I show up to my appointment 10 minutes early. I was greeted by **. My check-in process was rocky. These guys were clearly busy and were struggling to get people checked in for their appointments. ** checked me in and seemed to have trouble with my information. She only had me down for a tire change - when I asked if I was reserved for the Cooper Ultra Touring Tires she seemed a bit confused and went to the back. When she came back she said yes and said that she needed me to have a seat while she pulled the tires out. I literally sat for 35 minutes while ** searched the store. I could see her going back and forth in a panicked state considering the conversation we had the day before.
I finally decided to get up and talk to her because I assumed that she could not find the tires. When I approached her she fessed up that indeed she could only find 3 tires instead of all 4. I said "No problem **, let's find the next comparable tire and let's go with that one." ** went back over to the computer and found a Hankook Ventus s1 noble2. The only problem was that this tire was 8.00 more than the Cooper Tire. I asked if she could please have her manager come over so I could ask if they could take the difference off each tire considering the situation. She talked with ** and he OK'd the price override.
Before I left I told ** that I would wait for her to pull the tires so that I could make sure they were in stock. She said "Oh no problem - we have 11 in stock." I said I understand, but I would like to make sure. She left and went to pull the tires. This process took 20 minutes until finally I walked to the back and asked if she was having trouble. Guess what. She can only find 3 tires again. At this point I am still telling myself to run out of this store. ** then has an associate named ** come over and helps her find the 4th tire. I leave the store and go on about my day until the shop calls.
At 11:14 am I receive a phone call from ** telling my car is ready. I am like wow. That was quick considering I just left at 9:45 and ** told me it would take 45 minutes to do the alignment alone - and they still needed to mount and balance tires. You do the math. So I get my friend to bring me over to the shop and we pull next to my car. I check the outside of my car just to look at the tires and they look good so I am really excited to get in and drive. I get to the counter and they are even busier than when I arrived for my appointment. I get to the counter and I tell them I am here to pick up my car. The cashier begins to ring me up and proceeds to check me out but my total is wrong.
** comes over and he clunks around on the computer for at least another 15 minutes until he finally tells me that he cannot bring the total to the total he promised me before. However, he did give me an oil change with a value of 45.00 in which I knew I would not be redeeming because of the experience I had up to this point. My total came to a whopping 704.00. I just accepted the total because I was so frustrated at the experience I was having.
I get to my car start it and proceed to exit right onto airline highway. As I am turning I hear something slide across under my hood and fall below my car onto airline highway. Can you guess what that was? I saw it in my rear view mirror as I was pulling forward. It was a tool they left under my hood. Why was my hood open? After all, I just came in for a tire change!?!?!?! Immediately I notice that my car is still pulling to the right and the alignment that they claim they performed was not done right. After all the drama that I had experienced previous to this has left me with no faith that this Pep Boys will be able to fix the problem and I want my 84.99 back for a bad job done.
I call the manager ** and speak with him about the issue and he informs me he wants me to bring the car back so they can look at it. I told him absolutely not and I wanted my money back - I would have the alignment done somewhere else. He OK's the refund and tells me that I can bring my receipt in on Sunday to receive my refund. I go to the store on Sunday and the manager on duty was very nice and listened to all of my concerns. She apologized and completed the refund.
Now at this point I had not been on the interstate. Today (April 14, 2015) I get on the interstate to come to work and I now have a vibration at 65-70 MPH. Ahhhhhhhh what next?? My guess is that they did a rush job on the mount and balance and that's why the vibration is happening and the alignment was either not executed correctly or not done at all as to why my car is still pulling to the right. Two instances in which give me every right not to trust this shop to correct the work done. And the kicker is that I have to come back to this place because my tires are warrantied here. Not to mention the complimentary oil change ** offered me. Who knows what might happen next, maybe they will forget to add the oil?!?!
My question to you is would you feel comfortable bringing your vehicle back to a place where the customer service and the actual services were so bad? If you were truly honest with yourself your answer would be no. This seems to be a company-wide issue where YOUR customers are receiving horrible customer service and even worse actual service to their vehicles. How do you stay in business with such a bad track record?

I took it to a closer reputable shop and they discovered that my power steering fluid was gone dry. So, what did I pay all that money to Pep Boys for? Either way, they either neglected to put power steering fluid (Duh, how much of a failure is that?) or they did not do the proper maintenance that I was over charged for. On 4/8/2015 at 12:20pm, I stopped at the Pep Boys Willow Grove location. I asked for a flat tire repair on the rear of my vehicle. The man behind the service counter seemed annoyed and put out by this request. After asking for my vehicle information in a very rude, annoyed and condescending way, he agreed to have my vehicle repaired, and that it wouldn't take more than 20 minutes. More than an hour passed, and my vehicle still hadn't been looked at, or even brought into a service bay. After 1 hour and 40 minutes approximately, my car was finally brought into the bay and put on a lift.
About 15 minutes later, the rude service desk guy asked me to follow him into the service bay. He pointed out that my front tires were wearing out and that they needed to be replaced. I explained that those tires were already ordered, that I was already aware of the problem, and that my rear tire was my current concern. He again insisted on trying to sell me front tires, focusing only on my front tires, and then stated that he wouldn't be able to fix the flat on my rear tire if I wouldn't buy new front tires. I then said, "Let me get this straight, you're telling me that after almost two hours of waiting, that you won't fix my rear flat tire, because my front tires are in need of replacement?" He said yes. He refused to fix the flat on my rear tire, which was perfectly fine tread wise, because my front tires were worn. And it took him nearly two hours to make this determination.
So basically, I waited two hours for some rude, condescending man, to not fix my flat because I wouldn't buy front tires. And frankly, I've been to Pep Boys on numerous occasions and not once did I ever have a helpful or pleasant experience. It's like the people there are annoyed at you because you need help with your car. Pep Boys is just not helpful at all and they cost me a lot of time and money yesterday.

Pep Boys, 232 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 0197. On January 31st, my wife and I took our car for the first oil change to my recently purchased used vehicle (purchased in November 2014), scheduled for an appointment at that time. Our vehicle was in excellent conditions prior to entering for services. After an hour and a half we received our vehicle, which at that time we drove back home. On our way home the car acted unusual, but didn’t pay much attention at first.
We got home and drove to downtown Boston (1 hour drive). During the ride, we started noticing that the car was acting weird, specifically the engine, a light knocking sound started, loss of power from what it was used to (276hp, V6 engine). The whole ride to Boston the car engine made uncommon noises and we called Pep Boys Shop and ** advised us to take it back; which we did later that afternoon.
Driving the car was acting even worst, engine sounded rough and forced, hard knocking noise and the engine light came on after a couple minutes the oil warning light as well. We finally arrived. It turns out that the car leaked all the oil during the day and it was left with less than 2 quarts when we got it to the shop. We agreed to leave the car overnight and that the following day they will look and inspect more in depth. After 1 week and no calls of any updates, they needed me to return the rental I demanded and to go pick up my car. Their only answer was that they did an oil change to the vehicle, AGAIN. Well, the next day of course, oil leaked and engine gave up. Diagnostic: Burnt engine due to lack of oil (Agency Dealer).
Pep Boys Service Warranty states: Automotive service and installed parts are warranted for 90 days or 4,000 miles, whichever comes first, unless different warranty terms are specified on the invoice too. I took time off from work to carry the car in on thursday night march 12 so they would be able to have time to do the job. Pep boys kept my car from March 12 to March 20th - a total of 8 days and charged me 1600 instead of 1100 despite the fact that i had provided my own parts, and only purchased a water pump as they said the one in the kit for my car I provided was wrong despite having been made for my model and year. Please note I need my car to do my job. I rented a car for 5 of those days when I realized I could get no answer as to when the job would be done.
On march 20 i received my car and went home. On march 22, the sunday, when I again took my car out to get gas etc for the week my car started stalling. I carried my car back to pep boys today, monday the 23rd of march losing yet another day of pay. I let him know it had engine code P2096 which was a fuel moisture error and that when I researched this code fault it was explained that my gas line had not been put back on properly. The manager ** took it for a spin. He returned saying my PCV valve was sticking (despite the fact that this contradicted the OBD code) and that it was now ok as he had unstuck it and I should think of replacing it eventually.
I am at home at 12.55 and my car has shut down. My OBD says I have a overly rich fuel mixture and my check engine light is again on. This manager basically jimmied the car enough to get it out of the pep boys lot and me home before it broke down again. There are no words to describe the level of disgust and anger I have towards pep boys right now. There is a lack of integrity, of conscience, of any level of customer service, and just basic human decency that I experienced in my visit. I will never use one of their outlets again. I am so upset and still without a car and likely to lose the job I am still on probation for as a result of this experience.
Update. I changed my PCV valve on the 21st of march just to remove the excuse Pep boys was using. The codes returned. I took the car back to Pep Boys today march 27 after leaving work early to get there. I was told I had a 9 am appointment which is ** as I told them I could not miss work yet again for them to go look on my car. I was told that the new fault errors were there previous to me taking the car to pep boys --- lie.
I spoke to the Regional manager I think who claims it is not their issue as the problem is my catalytic converter as per the code. I reminded him that there was no code error when I carried it in so unless he is saying replacing my head gaskets threw something out the issue developed while they were replacing my head gaskets. I reminded him that I sought advice and was told that when the head gaskets were replaced if the gas line was not reconnected properly it would cause this issue. His response, yes that's possible but it is a catalyst code and as such it should be fixed by the person who put it in despite it being pep boys labor that caused the freaking code. The resolution they offer - they will pay for the person who did my cat. to diagnose it as it is not their issue. If I were to vent my spleen I would probably get so upset Id be at risk of miscarrying my baby. Pep boys sickens me.
As a woman never go there alone! And never trust them to charge what they say, or do it well, or take responsibility for the shoddy labor and any effects it may have on your car. Im done. For my own health I am done with them. I will take my car somewhere else to get it fixed. I hope the 1600 in labor they stole from me was worth it to them. Take my advice and never go there ever!

We had spoken with a friend of ours at a pawn shop and said we can get a free diagnostic test done at Auto Zone and that the Pep boys was trying to rip us off. So we headed over to Auto zone, we know the manager there, it took them one minute and was free for them to the diagnostic test. I will never go back to Pep boys again. They were dishonest and were taking advantage of us.

I set up an appointment for a diagnostic on the car. I asked to go to the back and see what was going on but the agent at the front said they will only call me if necessary. Next thing I know -- a man comes out with my breaks in his hand telling me to examine them because they must be replaced. I said ok but then asked he was sure. He responded "yes." I asked the agent at the front counter what the cost was to replace them -- which he said would run about $450. I paid and went to my car.
As I got into the car I noticed that the different warning lights were coming on -- so I went back to talk to someone about it. He refused to come out and told me it was normal. I turned the car on again and showed him that my break lights were coming on and he insisted that everything was fine with the car. However now I notice that my car doesn't have the same performance as before in the snow. When it is snowing, the car doesn't break after I step on the breaks. I have to practically slam on the breaks for the car to stop which wasn't the case before. I regret letting them change my breaks at all.
I feel mislead and deceived because I noticed that they allowed certain customers to go to the backs and check on their cars while the mechanic was working on it. When I asked, they said I'd be called if I were needed. Secondly, they took my breaks off car before explaining to me what the true problem was. It seems like they knew all along what they were going to do so they didn't want to consult with me at all. Just to make money.

This is a review of an experience I had at the Pep Boys on Summit Ave. in Elgin, IL. One of the worst and most misleading experiences ever. I went to this store to get an estimate on new tires because I had $100 in Pep Boys gift cards. I was quoted a price of $534 for four tires installed, balanced, etc. I asked for a written estimate and the manager wrote it on a scratch piece of paper and handed it to me. Trusting him I made an appointment for 9 a.m. today. When I arrived at the store this morning the manager told me he didn't have the tires in stock but could get them by 1 p.m. I couldn't leave my car there all day so I told him to call me when the tires arrived.
Having not heard anything by 1:30 I went to the store. The tires had still not arrived. I asked again for a written estimate for an out the door price and suddenly the $534 I was quoted had now become $712 and that was with ONE TIRE FREE. Additionally, I was told the work had to be performed prior to March 1 to get that price. I told the assistant manager I would do business elsewhere. I was lied to by Pep Boys. The store did not have the product I ordered at the time of my appointment. I had to go to work and I work tomorrow. They did not want to accept payment today and schedule the work for Monday. The assistant manager tried to sell me a different tire that was of much cheaper quality so they could do the job today.
This is the second time in the past two months this Pep Boys has deceived me, the first time being when I asked for a simple estimate on a brake job and a new battery and they came back with $750 worth of work they said I needed that I do not need. I had an independent mechanic check my car and none of the things they said needed repairing actually need to be repaired. They also tried that day to pressure me into doing the work immediately. I will never set foot in a Pep Boys again unless I see some attention to this matter. I specifically asked for Pep Boys gift cards for Christmas because of what I thought was a good reputation. Now these gift cards are useless to me because I have no intention of ever doing business with a Pep Boys again. This statement will now be sent to the Better Business Bureau and posted on any website I can find with reviews of Pep Boys. I have no idea how this store stays in business.

Pep Boys in West Chester has got to be one of the worst stores ever for management and customer service. As a frequent shopper at the store I've had several disappointing trips but I'm going to tell about our last 2 experiences. My wives battery died and left her stranded at work. Understandable. Batteries die. Things happen. The battery was less than 1 year old. Having bought a new battery where she was stranded a replacement was unnecessary. I brought the battery in to Pep Boys, they put it on the charger for 30 minutes or so, and said the battery is holding. If the battery didn't hold the charge I would be refunded. I told them the battery failed my wife once. I do not want the battery.
I asked the employee if they would put this battery back into their wives car? Nope. They told me too bad, I am going to have to eat it. So I went to get the core money back and was told I can't have the money for a reason I am still not certain of. While trying to clearly understand the reasoning the BOSS, as referred to by another employee, told me to "take the battery and leave. " Seriously that's how it's handled?
So the previous experience went like this. My wife had a flat tire so I changed it and put the donut on. She went into Pep Boys to have the tire repaired/changed earlier the next morning. The manager was at the service desk, she told them she needed a tire changed. She was told they do not do that here. Pep Boys doesn't change tires? She left and went to Pep Boys in Exton where they did it free of charge. Do we really have to drive an extra 10 minutes to go to the same store? So in conclusion I will not be a frequent shopper at Pep Boys in West Chester no longer. I would advise anyone who reads this the same.

Went to the cashier to complain, he comes to the from and joke with other cashier. I had gotten a flat tire on my car, and my friend took the tire to Hess to fill it up, put it back on and drive it to Pep Boys. The next day I received a call from a fast talking guy named Guy. He said the tire had been plugged, and I needed a new rim, because my rim was excessively rusted, and was causing the tire to leak at the bead. I was skeptical of course, however, he stated the tire had DEFINITELY become fat from the rusted rim. Against my better judgment, I agreed to order the new rim, which I was required to pay for before ordering. I was told the rim would be in on Wednesday. Three business days after, and that the car would be safe to drive until then. After four calls I had made to Pep Boys on Wednesday, they finally said it was there at 6 pm, and that it had come in at 4 pm.
Meanwhile, I had placed my third call at 3 pm, and was last told that a call would be placed to find out why the rim hadn't been delivered yet, and I would get a call back. After they asked me a myriad of irrelevant questions, I said, "Are you going to tell me when I can come in?" And he said, "5:00 pm tomorrow." So Wednesday turned into Thursday. I arrived Thursday at 4 pm. An hour later, they replaced the 'new' rim, which had cost me 96.00. After I had gotten into the parking lot, I looked at the 'new' rim, only to be confused by the fact that it was 75% rusted. I thought it was strange, that they would replace a rusted rim, with a new rusted rim. I called immediately after, to which in was told the guy, 'Guy' was on lunch. I was told he would call me back, to which I did not receive a call. I will follow up with them tomorrow.
All I can say is, I work 50 to 60 hours a week, and I need my car because I am a traveling nurse. My work involves a lot of concentrating, so when I'm being called by Pep Boys when I thought I would just need a new tire, with not just a demand that I need a new rim, but a long list of over 500.00 worth of work, I have to seriously question their integrity. Someone told me they have sales quota they have to meet every so often. By the way I was treated, that would fit.

While it took longer than expected, our clutch was fixed to our satisfaction and the store covered the cost, whether they felt wrong or not. I still am not planning on going back due to not being told about a problem they say they noticed the first time around, but this particular matter is resolved.

I brought my car into the Pep Boys location in Wheat Ridge on a Saturday night to have the brakes done, knowing I would have to leave it overnight. That was fine. Can't complain. On Sunday, my husband got a call around noon saying our car was done, to come pick it up. He went and they informed him upon arrival that the car was not ready. We were in a bit of a time crunch, trying to get to a funeral out of town. He waited until they had bled (and re-bled) the brakes, about 3 times, until they said it was safe to drive. We were also informed that the CV joint needed to be fixed. We were going to bring it in yesterday to have that done. We leave for the funeral around 4:30 Sunday afternoon, heading into blizzard conditions (that we were scheduled to miss by a few hours, had our brakes been done correctly on time). About 10 miles outside of town, the cabin of our car smells like clutch and burning brake fluid.
We lose power going 70 MPH on the highway, have to pull over on to the shoulder. I put the car in first gear, it won't go forward. A sheriff pulls up behind us and tells us that he once had a mechanic get clutch and brake fluid mixed up and the systems contaminated each other and both were shot. We waited an hour and a half in a blizzard with our kids in the car for a tow truck, and we were towed back to Pep Boys. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a couple of the technicians that had worked on our brakes. One tells us that he felt the clutch slipping when he test drove it. I guess it wasn't important enough to mention. They tell us they will look at it the next day, they are done working that night.
On Monday, I call and talk to the store representative, who was very nice, accommodating, and understanding. He informs us that our clutch is gone, it's $1300 to replace. He says they will take care of it, even though he does not believe they are responsible for it, just to make it right. He assures me that it will be done today (Tuesday). I go in today around 5 PM. They say the car will be done by noon tomorrow. My husband then goes in, they swear up and down it will be done tonight. Then they call him back a half hour later and say they need a special part from Indianapolis. If it gets in by 10:30 tomorrow morning, they might fix our car. If not, it will be "a couple days." If you don't need a car for a week and want it to cost literally 5 times as much, go to Pep Boys! If not, do the work yourself. Way cheaper and less frustrating.

Towed in a van into Pep Boys on Saturday. Nobody called to give an estimate till Tuesday, but I kept calling and driving in. They claimed, "we're working on it." They gave a flimsy excuse of having to fix a transmission hose that was broken during towing. Now that they've got time for me, they will need a new fuel pump to read my check engine light. All to cost a bogus sum of $855. They won't be able to read the code guarantee, what else needs repair afterwards. Well it's 7pm Tuesday, get the part and get started.
No calls again till Wednesday at 2pm saying, unfortunately, after bringing down the old fuel pump they discovered the ordered one won't fit. Needed an additional $200 to get another one from the dealership. With this, I was frustrated and requested my car be coupled back. When I arrived with a tow truck, they had a $464 bill waiting with $299 labor for ignorantly removing and ordering a misfit. So I am supposed to pay the cost of Pep Boys' oversight, that my car was flex fuel pump. I insisted I wasn't going to pay a $299 for 3 hour fuel pump replacement if none was replaced, but the service guy who falsified himself as store manager hesitated releasing my keys. They impounded my car while the tow guy waited an hour.

Wow five other people have waited more than two hours and they're all ahead of him so they stop what their doing on my car and help him with no with appointment.
So see this I get mad and tell them just to give me me car. The manager Gil ask why I tell him I not stand here for two hour for my health and that guy just walk up and get the same work while I am waiting there two hours for the same service. Gilda manager replies, "he doesn't have a car to Manitu so it's easier so we took him before you". I reply that's not how it works. First come first served. He replies, "this is the way things go." Later I complained on the complaint line took three days. They did not get back to me then the manager gillies to his own management team saying the man had an appointment.
The man had no appointment because I was at the counter when he came up and asked about the two tires and they said they could get them out really quick. So on top of the bad service and Pep Boys not caring enough to call me back. The manager has the Odessa to lie on something that can be checked on like an appointment. I recommend never going there unless you want to wait for five hours to get your car done because the point is I give a **. One has a hole, the others don't but seem to lose air after a week and a half but they claim, like with other things, there is nothing wrong and can't do nothing about it even with warranty. They rather just give you a patch or just leave it alone even if the tires might be bad tires. Warranty only matter if tires are completely destroyed, that's when they have no choice but to replace them. Pep boys isn't worth the trouble. I rather recommend Delta Tires.

Then brought his knife back out, proceeded to take the bolt nail out with the knife struggle for a couple minutes, couldn't remove the bolt nail so got some vice grips, pulled it out. I thought why did he use a knife. Then graved windex sprayed my tire, said "You're good to go." I was so flabbergasted appalled, distraught. I told them it's the battery because lately it sounded sort of weak when I started the car. I told them to test it on the car. They still wouldn't budge. I went to Sam's and got another one and car started right up.

Visited a Pep Boys Store, had a service performed on my vehicle in a store. Giving general feedback about an experience with Pep Boys Store 862, 4805 REDWOOD DR ROHNERT PARK, CA 94928 (707) 588-0799. I bought tires in this store about a year and a half ago. The tires only have 20,000 on them, almost. They were supposed to last 45,000 miles, but the manager said I didn't get the tires rotated enough times, or had a wheel alignment done enough, and now I need new bushings too.
The manager voided the warranty on my tires and said I needed 3 new ones and he would have to charge me full price for them. He doesn't care how much business I have done in the store. He says he will make sure I am given good customer service with a smile. He used something I had said against me, and said it is my own fault for not listening to the dealership who told me earlier that I needed new bushings. I didn't trust the dealership, and really thought I had gone into Pep boys at a later date and one of their guys told me I didn't need the bushings, so I didn't get them. I have no record of this though, so instead of giving me the benefit of doubt, the manager said he sympathized with me, but there was nothing he could do. Basically, I was screwed, but he was going to make sure he had a smile on his face, giving me good customer service while he did it.
All I know for sure is that I have a problem with my memory after a brain injury. I drive a bmw, so I try to keep it up as best that I can, and get anything fixed that is suggested to me, such as, today I got my back brakes fixed, because I was told when I had the front brakes fixed that the back brakes would need to be done in 6 months or so. The store manager told me he would always suggest as much as he could be done to my car, but only if it needed to be done. I had trusted Pep boys, because a friend of mine in Canada swore by them. So since no one at Pep boys told me I needed new bushings until now, I figured the guy at the dealership had been lying to me about needing bushings before.
Now the manager of Pep boys said having 3 bald tires after 20,000 is all my own fault, because I didn't keep the maintenance up on my car. Not once in those 20,000 miles did anyone from Pep boys suggest that my tires were overdue for a rotation. I bought the tires from Pep boys. They have all the records of anything I have had done there. The manager seems to contradict himself. And he is not willing to give me, a good customer, any kind of a break for a mistake I supposedly caused myself. He said he didn't care if I spent $2,000 or $2 in his store, he would make sure that both people would be given good customer service. I say that's a bunch of crap. Yes. He is smiling while he is telling me I am screwed and he sympathizes with me, but there is nothing he can do. So, good for him.
He has just lost Pep boys my business, and believe me, I will let the world know how unhappy I am with the treatment I was given today. I will be going somewhere else where someone really does care about good customer service. We all make mistakes. I don't have the money to waste on warranties that are going to be voided due to my memory loss. Believe me, I will keep better records now in the book I have to keep in front of me every day just so I can remember what day it is, but someone else get my business from now on. And the world will know how dissatisfied I am with the treatment I received today. It is sad, because there were a lot of nice people who worked at Pep boys, but your manager isn't one of them. His name is **.

I tried to contact the corporate office to raise a complaint with no luck. I will not recommend for anyone to give their business to such a big chain when only they keep charging for unnecessary car fixes. In addition, I received a bill including a late fee of $35.00 when I had made a full payment indicated on the bill over 2 months ago plus the bill was sent to my old address when I had corrected the address directly at their store. I went to Vo-Tech for auto mechanics but chose a different career path. However, I never stopped working on cars. Mine, family, friends, to save money for us all. In 40 years I have never seen such despicable tactics to drum up business. I needed tires. I don't have a tire changing machine. I purchased them online from Pep Boys and made an "appointment" to have them mounted. When I got to the store, after confirming twice during the week, I learned that the tires I chose were not there and were not available for several weeks. I should have left but I wanted the tire thing over with. I agreed to their house brand, Definity was the name.
After 2 hours and several inquiries about progress, I was finally free to leave. Good thing I had an appointment!? I rotate my tires every 5 to 8,000 miles. After one of the rotations I noticed a great deal of vibration. I took the car back to Pep Boys to get them rebalanced. I was told that the rear tires were "cupped" because it was a "light weight" car. (Seriously?!?!) Their solution was to put the tires back to before the rotation, AND an estimate for $850 to replace two rear bearings and a front bearing (I put new rear bearings in 9 months earlier). I left and went to Wal-Mart where they balanced the tires perfectly AND rotated them.
I drive 2000 miles a month, and after 18 months, after noticing the car pulling to the left and vibrations returning, I could finally justify getting rid of these worthless tires. I went to Discount Tire, got an EXCELLENT deal on tires! It took 1/3 the amount of time, and I got NO estimates for additional repairs. I will not buy a screwdriver from Pep Boys. Best of luck to you if you choose their service and parts.

On November 13, 2014 I took my 2003 Chevy Suburban in for an oil change that was done. Took it home, parked it. The next day my wife and kids took it to see her father 150 miles away. She got about 100 miles away when she called me and said that the truck stopped along the interstate. I called a wrecker and went and picked her and the kids up off the road. When I arrived the tow truck had shown up and was loading up my truck onto the bed. I gave the driver my info on where to deliver the truck and left. He called me once he got into his truck to inform me that the reason my truck stopped was because the drain plug came out and it was all over the undercarriage of the truck.
So I immediately called Pep Boys where the service was done at and was told the service manager was gone and they couldn't do anything about it. So I towed it home and paid the 385.00 for the service. So the following day I called Pep Boys again and got in contact with Mike the service manager who told me to tow it back to him and which I told him he was crazy. They had just done a service and it wasn't done properly - that I can't trust them. So then he proceeds to tell me that he is going to contact his regional manager and that a Pep Boys tech from where I live was supposed to come look at it, and that he's going to review the tape.
I let it go a few days. My wife calls him to see what's going on and he told her that he reviewed the tape and that in the tape, it didn't show the tech either putting the plug on or tighten it down and that he was still waiting to hear from them. He finally calls me - tells me to take it to a shop, have oil put in it and go from there. So I called the shop that initially put the engine in my truck and had them come over pick it up and tow it and do what the manager said. They came back and said that the engine had suffered internal damage caused by no oil in the shop - made a report and took pictures of the undercarriage.
I called Mike to inform him of it and he said that he's going to turn it over to his claim department and that someone is going to contact me. So I let it go after Thanksgiving. I called to let him know that no one had called me and I needed a claim number and phone number to see what was going on, which he said he didn't have. So I got irritated and went to the one where I live at and spoke with the store manager and gave him all the information I had. He stated that he would look into it and not to worry about it. I hadn't been home a few minutes when Mike called me and gave me the information and was mad that I had gone to the store in my town to complain. So I started calling Ronda ** the claim person and was unsuccessful in contacting her. So December 1st 2014, I called my shop and gave him a deposit to order the engine for my truck.
The following day I get a call from Craig ** the claim adjuster to set up a time to come take some pictures of my truck and collect the report from the shop. He shows up on the day - took pictures of the truck, and I also gave him the information and then he tells me that due to the age of my truck and mileage that my truck would probably be totaled out. I explain to him and showed him the paperwork on my engine that had less than 10,000 miles on it. All the extras I had on it LEDs, all the way around brand new tires, 20 inch rims, upgraded brakes - Very nice condition. I also informed him that I had been unsuccessful in reaching the claims adjuster at which he got on the phone and she answered him quick. He told her the information on the truck and how he heard it, and it ran very bad and had pictures that I had given him, plus he also took some more and once again he tells me that Pep Boys might total out my truck. Then he tells me my mechanic's rate is outrageous because his labor rate is high - So he leaves.
I talk to Ronda and she gives me a rental car for 5 days until Craig sends her the report. He calls the shop owner S&S Santos. The owner talks to him. He talks him down on the price of the engine and labor because he says it’s a lot of money. The shop owner agrees to his request. He calls me the following day and says that Pep Boys is going to approve the repairs and to let the shop know. So called the shop who said that he won't until the weekend of Dec 13th or Monday the 15th at the latest which the rental car went back before my truck was repaired which I didn't care because the work has been approved.
So Craig the adjuster calls me on Thursday Dec 11th and says he received a check and a release from Pep Boys for reimbursement and that Pep Boys wanted some pictures of the old engine coming out and the new one going in. He also said that he wanted Santos from the shop to call him so he can come photograph the engine on Saturday - December 13th. Santos comes to pick up the truck to repair it. My wife informed him that he needed to call Craig which he did in front of her and left a message that he was taking the truck to repair. So he needed to call him to come over and do what he needs - never gets a call from Craig. So he takes the engine pics of before and after, plus the new engine in it and the old one outside.
On Monday December 15th Santos calls me that the truck was ready and that he took some pictures of the engines. So I go pick up my truck and I paid the remaining balance owed to him. I drove my truck - it runs excellent. I took it to the car wash and washed the undercarriage that was oily and was smelling like burnt oil. I get home and called Craig about meeting him to sign the release give him the pictures and get the check from him in which he then gets all mad and says that he was the one to take - needed to take the pictures and that he wasn't going to give me the check.
My wife gets angry with him. He hangs up the phone and she calls Ronda and tells her what’s going with their adjuster, who in the beginning said he was a mutual person for both sides. And now he says Pep Boys is his client and demands that he wants the old engine so he can take a picture of it for himself, in which I called Santos and asked him for it and says it went back because he wasn't paying 750.00 for a core in which the new engine had been in his shop for the last 13 days.
If the adjuster wanted to see it he should have done it by calling him or expressing it to him when they talked on different occasions. I have lost my patience with him and Tuesday I'm going into Phoenix to the BBB who wants to see all the information and I will have to go and file a claim in court because their adjuster couldn't make up their mind on what he wanted.

I wanted to make everyone aware of the issues I had with the Pep Boys located on Powers in Orlando. I have been a customer of Pep for over 10 years. I have never had any of my cars service anywhere else but at Pep. I recently got an oil change at this location. To my surprise about 19 days later I noticed my car was leaking oil. When I went to the Pep to see what was going on, the manager Judy told me that the tech that did my oil change didn't tighten the screw and that's why my car was leaking. She also told me that my valve was leaking. I went on to ask her “Why wasn't I notified about the leak when I came for an oil change?” Judy then stated that, “The tech was just being lazy and didn't tell me nor did he do his job correctly.”
At this time I asked the manager, “Could the valve have been affected from the car leaking oil over the last 19 days?” She said, “No. That leaking oil couldn't cause any damages.” (Really that doesn't sound right. Then why do we need oil)? I explain to her I didn't believe that. Judy then says that, “The valve had to have been leaking for many months and that as soon as she opened the hood you could tell.” Mmmm. That's weird because the tech didn't tell me that the valve was leaking oil. At this time I told manager “I believe that the valve was affected from my car having lack of oil and that I would take my car somewhere to see if that was the case.”
Needless to say I went to another Pep Boys and they said it could have been caused by the oil leaking. It could have made the car work hard, which makes the engine hot and the rubber valve melt. I have gone back and forth with the manager at the store, the GM of the store and every time I call customer service they say someone will call me back within 48 hrs. Then they said within 24 hrs. Needless to say that was Friday December 05, 2014. Today is 12/10/2014 still no call and no resolution.
I am very disappointed in the customer service and in the laziness of my tech. I put my life and faith in Pep Boys every time I take my car to be serviced. If my valve was leaking before the oil change then my tech would have told me that. Because of his failure to do so I have no choice but to believe that the car was not leaking when I bought my car to get an oil change and that is was caused from the tech not tightening the screw and my car leaking oil for 19 days. I could go on and on with all the issues like the manager lying saying that she called me and said she was sorry for the error. I never received a call from her. I just want this issue taken care of. I thought Pep Boys believed in customer service.

I had my car repair on November 23, 2014. These are for my service engine, door lock actuator, main switch for the side mirror. They only fixed my service engine on for six hour of waiting and they said that I have to come back for the main switch and the door lock actuator as they have to order the parts, so I told them to order it. They said that they will, so I phone again on Tuesday that was November 25. The person was not there, they didn't know what I was talking about. So had to go on Wednesday to the the store again and took my receipt with me to tell them that I want these parts order w/c were the lock actuator and the main switch for my side mirror and they asked me for deposit. And they told me that it will take three days to arrive and they will phone me.
After three days they phone me so I came back and said to them that John told me to come here as my parts already arrive and they denied it, "who's John? There are a lot of John here." So I have to set an appointment on Saturday that was December 6, at 9 am just to put my door lock actuator put installed and my main switched side view mirror. They phone me at about 1 pm. They said it is fixed and ready to be pick up. So I paid it and then when I checked on my truck outside the rear door that they fixed, the door lock actuator, the mirror switch was cracked and the bottom too. I showed it to them and they looked like that they were innocent they could not explained.
I would expect them to say sorry or tell the consequences. The person just told me to call again Monday as he had to phone the store what happen. I did phone again Monday but the guy didn't talked to me, it was the Manager. Told me that he was aware of the problem, they will replace it but he doesn't know when. He will phone me when he already finds out the replacement as he has to look in the internet. I am not satisfied with the answer because if they wanted to fix it, they should give me guarantee not just a word or write it on the piece of paper or whatever to make the customer satisfied.

They said anyone could write in the book and because one tire wore faster that the tires were not rotated. The fact remains the tires wore prematurely and they were rotated. They were Futura Scrambler A/P which is a cheap brand I believe is only sold by Pep Boys. I'm writing this to warn others to stay away from these tires and Pep Boys!!

My experience at Pep Boys Germantown is horrible. I am very disappointed. I bought 4 new tires and warranty for my Honda Accord in 2011. After one year, one tire started to leak very slowly. I have to fill it about every two weeks. I went back for repair. However, the problem persisted and the tire continue to leak after repair. I went back three times for the same issue. But, problem never solved.
I was very frustrated and tired about having to fill it every one or two weeks. I finally decided to replace it with new tires. I ordered 4 tires online and scheduled for an appointment at 4:00 pm in the afternoon on Nov 23 to get the new tires installed. When I got to the store, I asked if I can get refund for the residue value for the old tire because the tires were still under the 6000 miles warranty and the leaking problem couldn't be solved. I was told that I cannot get refund for residual value because I used a buy 4 tires get one free deal for the new tires. But, it seems that they did not have any technician to work on my car although I scheduled my appointment.
I went to Starbucks for 2 hours and when I went back to the store my car was still parked outside the shop. I waited for 3 hours and finally a technician started to work on my car. The store is already closed after it is done. Surprisingly, I found that the tires installed are not the ones that I ordered to buy. I ordered Copper cs4 with 6000 mile warranty. The tires installed are Cooper RS3 with 4000 warranty.. The store manager told me to come back 5:00 pm next day to get the right tires installed. I spent one hour in rush hour traffic to drive there the next day at 5:00pm after work, although I normally have to pick up my son from a swimming pool. (I asked my wife to pick him up.) Again, I was told that the technician who installed my tires the day before already went home and nobody can work on my car and I have to make another appointment to make the change.
Later, I saw the technician in the shop. The manager told me the technician is working on other cars and cannot work on my car. I have to make another appointment to replace the wrong tires. At this point, I was so fed up by all the crap and decided that I do not want to deal with these people any more. I told the manager that I will just keep the tires that installed. Amazingly, they cannot change the paper work to reflect the new tires and told me that I just use the old paper work. I asked the manager to sign the receipt to states that they are wrong tires on the car. The people there are not only rude, but also they cannot do anything right. At this place, the customers are treated like a piece of crap. There is no respect for my effort and time spent because of their mistake!!

I purchased 4 tires from Evansville, IN PEP BOYS in February 2014, mainly because of the buy 3 get 1 free. Starting in April I started noticing the tires were low, and stopped at a local oil change shop and had them check and add air. This was becoming a regular thing I was having to do every 2 weeks or so. I finally was so frustrated, I mean, these are new tires! So I started going to Pep Boys to have them check and air up. This went on for months! In August they checked them and the rear driver tire had a screw in it, they plugged it, no charge. But all tires continued to lose air at times (especially the 2 front tires) are between 4-9 pounds low!
On November 18, 2014 I demanded they check all tires because this is ridiculous! They checked all 4 tires and claimed there were no leaks! I asked "then why am I having to have air added every other week, sometime more?!" They couldn't answer that question. Said they checked rims, stems, whole surface of tires, no leaks. I asked for documentation of this visit, oh! Unfortunately the guy deleted it because "nothing was done" except the checking.
Today is Nov. 25th, one week after being told "no leaks" I stopped at "Best One Tire", the guy checked my tires, the front passenger tire was 4 pads low! I told him this story, he said "No, whoever told you that isn't being truthful. If you're having to add air this often there is definitely a leak somewhere." Before this set of tires I had a set from Sears on my car for 6 years and maybe had to add air "once, maybe twice a year occasionally." And with these, every week to 10 days? I am going to look into taking them to court! This is NOT the "NORM"! And I have stressed myself for months worrying about whether I will have a flat tire or maybe a blowout because of a hidden defect in the tires that is being kept secret by Pep Boys Manager, assistant manager and all the mechanics etc. that are employed at this store in Evansville, Indiana.

We have spent thousands at the Ridge Avenue location over the years. We felt they were fair and trustworthy. However, we have a very old car on the verge of the scrap heap and took it in to see if they could get it going one last time. When they came back after running the diagnostic test with a vague issue, they couldn't quite explain, and that it would cost almost $1000 to repair. We politely declined and decided it's time to move on--that we have hit the limit of what we are willing to put into the car.
When my husband picked up the car--which was running okay when we dropped it off--it was running MUCH worse and stalled out multiple times in the short drive home. What changed in between noon and 4pm? We called and they plead ignorance of course. I believe they sabotaged the car in some small way because they were ticked we didn't pay their ransom to change a spark plug.
Then we realized that EVERY TIME we go there, no matter what, we put out at least $400. I think this is the threshold they require for anyone coming in. Even if we were just getting an oil change, somehow there was some "issue" that came up that required us to pay--you guessed it--about $400-$700 just for walking in the door. Well we were suckers for years. Avoid. Now we have to find another place to take our cars, and I don't look forward to the process of finding someone who is slightly less interested in laying us over a barrel. I'm taking the money and paying for a auto mechanic course at the local community college!Avoid, avoid, avoid.

My experience with PEP BOYS has not been good. I am sorry but I must complain because I feel that the administration is not doing a single thing to rectify these issue. I have heard from four (4) mechanic shops that PEP BOYS sells inferior products. I had never believed it before but after I had to change my car battery for the fourth time in less than two years, I believe it now. PEP BOYS does honor their warranty true enough, but they will make you bleed before they exchange any product.
This whole incident began in 2012. My factory battery died. In hindsight, I should have gone to the dealer and purchased a new battery there, but PEP BOYS (a little ways across the street from the dealer) had a big battery sale sign so I took the bait. I paid $ 126.99 for a new battery. How was I supposed to know that four months later that same battery would die. When I drove up to the PEP BOYS store # 153 the assistant manager told me that all it needed was a charge, but I was not going to get a new battery. After an hour of back and forth with her the service man began to charge it. When it reached 70% the General Manager noticed that the battery was leaking acid through a hairline crack and instructed the services person stop charging and give me a new battery.
The assistant manager was very upset and blamed me for the crack. Luckily, a mechanic was passing by and told her that there was no way I could have caused that as it was a factory defect. So with some reluctance she gave me a new battery and I left. Five (5) months later I returned because the battery just died. Taking my alternator with it, the alternator repair was $ 433.00. PEP BOYS tried to charge the battery but it would not hold the charge. I was issued a new battery and four (4) months ago I returned. This time the mechanic told me the battery had a dead cell and he pointed to a huge bump on the side. PEP BOYS did not even ask, they just gave me a new battery.
Today 10/16/2014 PEP BOYS tested the battery and it was dead and not holding its charge. I was given a new one, however this time the gentlemen who helped me told me that all this time I had been given the wrong battery for my car - this is why all this was happening. I explained to him that the assistant manager had given me the second battery and then all other battery were view on screen to make sure they were up to specs with my car. But he said, “Well someone made a mistake along the line and gave you the wrong battery." So, I am now "supposedly" using the right battery with a higher amp for my car. Let’s see what happens. By the way PEP BOYS will not refund my $126.99. So I am stuck with them unless I just want to throw that money away and buy a real battery for a change.

While having an oil change at Pep Boys in Greenville, SC, Pep Boys did almost a thousand dollars worth of damage to my car (oh, and they still charged me for the oil change). Apparently the mechanic slammed the hood closed without first laying down the lever that holds the hood up; so the lever created on the hood an upwards bulge that broke through the paint, a gouge running behind that dent, broke off the lever completely, and also bent the casing holds that lever under the hood. The service manager on duty refused to provide me with the name of Pep Boys' insurance agent, or even the name of the store manager. He did admit they damaged it and said they would pay for the damage. He referred to a dent repair place and said "maybe" bring an estimate.
Almost the whole of the next day had to be spent on on this matter: the dent place took one look and said the service knew better than to send me there, that the damage required a body shop, and they referred me to one. The body shop gave me a written estimate of over $700.00 which I took to Pep Boys, and of course the day service manager was not at all happy, demanding to see the car and saying the damage was inconsequential and he knock it out the dent in 30 minutes; then he said I needed another estimate, which I promptly returned to him. This one was over $800.00 (the second body shop said the first must have missed something). I was told they needed to send this "corporate"; I wanted the number of this corporate number, but it was not forthcoming either.
After a week with no response, I finally found a customer care number online; I had to wait on hold for nearly 30 minutes before someone came on the line, and she did speak the best english. So I described the incident to her, and she said it would be reviewed, and someone would be in touch with me. After reading other reviews about Pep Boys, I suspect I'll have to take them to court to get a resolution.

We took our 2002 Ford Explorer into our local Pep boys in Escondido Ca. for problems with the AC. The fan was not switching speeds from 1-4. AC was still very cold just fan wasn't blowing. The service rep. stated it would take a couple of hours to diagnose problem. We took it in at 9:00am. At 3:00pm no word from Pep Boys so I called to find out what was the status. The service rep said, "Sorry we have been busy and have not completed the AC check" and would have someone call me when completed. I told him I was a little upset because my wife needed to use the car for the kids school pick up and that a couple of hr. service check had turned into me calling back to find out information at 3pm. If I would have known about the need for a longer time for the service check I could have made arrangements for me to pick them up instead of my wife. He apologized and said they would be done soon.
At 4:45pm they called me back and apologized for the delay but stated he had good and bad news. They checked the AC but found a problem with the FAN and wanted their master mechanic to diagnose for repair. He said sorry about the delay and said I could pick up my car if needed for errands and such and bring it back tomorrow to complete diagnosis or I could leave it and they would look at it 1st thing in the morning. Since it was after school pick up I agreed for them to keep the Car.
Day 2. I did not get any phone calls from Pep Boys. I was busy at work and was unable to call Pep Boys until 3:00pm. I called and talk to the service rep I talk to yesterday. I asked what was the status of my Explorer. He said, "You already picked your car up, didn't you?" "No I did not," I replied. Well let me check I'll call you back in a few moments. I asked, "Why is the same thing happening just like yesterday?" That I have to call to check on my car that they have had for 2 days. He said he was sorry and would call me when he checked on my car. I was called back at 5:00pm by another service rep. He said they had completed the usual AC check and found that the AC is functioning properly but their is a problem with the FAN (Surprise! Surprise!) and that they needed to still perform a diagnosis to determine the problem. I said, "Really, you have had the car for 2 days to check the FAN because that is the original problem and after 2 days you still need it to check the FAN. I do not understand."
SO I went down to Pep Boys and said I just want my truck back and that I was upset with this whole process. I would have it checked and fixed elsewhere. They apologized and gave me my car back. I drove away to my home which is less than 5 min away. 1/2 way home my car engine light went on and started to overheat with the temperature gauge in the red. I immediately stopped and parked the car and called Pep Boys and asked what was going on with my car. Their service rep. said they didn't touch the cooling system and didn't know why it was overheating. I said, "You have had my car for 2 days investigating AC problems which make cars overheat. Are you kidding me?" I never had any overheating problems with my car ever until now. I asked him to make thing right by having my car towed back to Pep Boys for diagnosis. He said he cannot but I could call their automated towing system through the Pep Boys Store.
Very angrily I called the sore and went through the automated call system until I was connected to a towing rep. After 1 hr. a tow truck showed up and took my truck back to Pep Boys. After another 1 hr. The Pep Boy service rep called me back and said my water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. They could do the work for $405 parts and labor. I am just flabbergasted (for a kinder word). Now I need to Pay $405 for something I believe Pep Boys caused. There was no water under my car at anytime prior to going to Pep Boys or when it overheated. They checked and fiddle with my AC system for 2 days doing who knows what. But the problem is a Water Pump? I asked how can that be? The service rep said it could have went bad in their bay during diagnosis and asked what I wanted to do?
WTF I need my car and cannot be without it or I need to rent a car for my wife to use. If I take my car elsewhere it will take more days as I picked up my car on Friday at 5:15pm and most repair shops aren't open until Monday. So tow it elsewhere wait and have it fixed. Pep Boys has given me the worst customer service ever and I am highly disappointed in this situation.

I took my car to this Pep Boys in Jamaica, NY just to have an oil change. This man told me my front router driver's side was bad and needed to be changed or I wasn't going to pass the registration. Well I knew something wasn't right about that, so I took it to a different Pep Boys and no one said anything about any wheels routers or anything and it passed. So now if he's doing that to me think how many people he's done it to already and still doing. I won't be taking it there anymore. I'll take some place else.

My husband & I had our car towed to the Pep Boys on Military Hwy in Norfolk, VA on 8/31/14. It had broken down on Hwy 58 in Suffolk, VA. We were told that a basic diagnostic test was needed. We agreed. Two days later we were told that the test determined that the car would turn over but would not start, which we already knew. They advised that a more extensive diagnostic test was needed. We agreed. The next day they advised that the car's computer was destroyed & needed replacement. They also advised that the battery was destroyed and also needed replacement. They advised that it would take approx. 10 days to get the computer & have it programmed. My husband advised them that he could get the computer through Auto Zone & have it programmed within 2 days. We paid Auto Zone for the computer ($309). My husband then delivered the programmed computer to Pep Boys on 9/5.
Pep Boys installed the computer & a new battery. We received a call from them on 9/6 to then say that there was electrical damage & they could not perform that work. They advised that we would need to have the car towed elsewhere but that we owed them $381. If Pep Boys had been straight up from the beginning & advised that there were limitations to the work that they would be able to perform, we would have taken it elsewhere & not padded their pockets with the $381. Pep Boys should have informed us before they started the work of any limitations prior to misleading us & leaving us a few hundred dollars lighter. Here we are a week later & have come out of pocket almost $700 & have a vehicle that still is not operational. This will certainly be the LAST time we ever do business with Pep Boys and will NEVER recommend them to anyone.

I took my car to Pep Boys to have my brakes and alignment checked out because of vibrations I felt in the brake pedal. They told me, among other problems, that my axle's boot was broken and that the whole axle should be replaced. I decided to not do any repairs with them since it was all easy fixes and took the car home. Instead of changing the whole axle I bought the boot to replace it because the problem hadn't damaged the axle yet, according to pep boys. When I take off the wheel and look at the axle, everything was in perfect condition, so we checked the other side. The axle was fine, but that's when we noticed the boot of the shocks was slightly ripped. If I would have gotten the repairs done at Pep Boys, they would have fixes something that didn't need fixing and ignored the actual problem. Now, two weeks later, I noticed when I press the brake pedal it would go down normally but if stuck in a red light, the brake would start slowly lowering. A problem I didn't have before taking it to Pep Boys. Needless to say, I'm never taking my car back there.

I walked around the store while they mounted the tires and saw several things I needed and wanted. When the job was complete I was told the cost was $299.00. I went in for a wheel alignment on my 2005 VW Passat TDI and came back with more problems. The mechanic claimed my car's tires were at 54 degrees and that my body was bent, so he was unable to do my wheel alignment. Anything like this would render my car inoperable which it wasn't. My car was pulling slightly from dealing with the hard winter we had on the east coast and I never had an accident which would create a problem with my frame. This all sounded ridiculous to me so I set up an appointment with another shop for a second opinion a few weeks later. During the few weeks my isolated shield that is attached to the underbelly of my car went missing. Now this piece should never have been removed in the first place and I know it was there before stepping into Pep Boys and was secure.
This is a piece that one should never have to replace. In my case this would be the 2nd time I've had to and the piece that went missing was just about 2 years old. The Pep Boys mechanic failed to either put this piece back on or never attached it back securely. Now, I'm not some stupid girl. Pep Boys is not getting my money for this piece if that was a part of their scam to get me to return and buy the piece from them. But I still had to shell $300 out of my own pocket to place this piece once again as my fuel tank is jeopardized by it being missing. Indirectly, PepBoys cost me $300 and I should have not had to pay anything to replace this piece! This is Pep Boys fault that this is missing and not my own.
Now, you know what the real issue was with my car? The control bushings needed replacing as did the tire rods, which makes sense as my car has about 158,000 miles on it. If a so called mechanic didn't realize that, then they should not be working in this field. And Pep Boys isn't getting a dime out of me for this... They could've but they missed that opportunity. But I'm still out a good chunk of change, thanks to Pep Boys.

The last thing I had done was my truck was making noises and was hard to turn left. Pep Boys did $1500 worth of work on the front end. Got the truck back and it was still doing the same thing it was doing before I took it up there. I have never used Pep Boys Repair Services but one time, my truck broke down in Sterling VA and because repairs were of urgent nature, I had to tow it to the nearest shop that was open after 6 pm. Pep Boys was near and they worked late and that was great. They have diagnosed the issue as broken heater hose and ordered the parts, my husband who was the driver stayed overnight and they were fixing the car till 1pm next day. Because we own car hauling business and truck performance is crucial, I had conversation with store mechanic and asked him to do thorough check of the vehicle to make sure my husband can be safe on the road. He told me that they checked everything possible in our truck and found only one other problem, that was dirty fuel filter.
Our truck was in service just month ago so I felt confident that Pep Boys did good inspection and addressed all issues. Repairs totaled little less then $800 and we were back on the road. But not only 30 minutes into the trip, my husband noticed that coolant is dripping under the truck, same issue we had when we towed the truck to their shop. I called Pep Boys immediately and they told me that they are 100% sure they inspected the truck and addressed all the issues. Because we were behind schedule, we decided to go back to Philadelphia and let local Pep Boys check out the issue.
Local Pep Boys on Germantown Pike in Norristown inspected the truck and advised that Pep Boys store in VA crisscrossed the cap on the degas bottle and that is why we saw the coolant leakage. The mechanic at that shop took the truck in and told us that this was Pep Boys' mistake and we will only have to pay for new tank (degas bottle), no extra charge for flushing the system. I felt that the other shop ruined our tank in the first place so why we have to pay but when he told me it is only $50, I was so happy that I just paid. We took the truck back and I was pretty happy with service although we lost 3 days on repairs but good enough.
Less than a week later, we saw that tank was showing the signs of melting and because it was not Ford tank but cheaper aftermarket version, we went back to Pep Boys again to see why it melts. This time, I was met by manager ** (I believe it was his name) who was very aggressive about whole thing. He practically accused me of getting free service because he saw that we just paid for tank alone. He was very irritated and when I told him that this was repair of issue that happened in VA store, he didn't listen.
The young mechanic who serviced us initially with the tank was no longer at that store. I live nearby and ever since that repair, I never saw him, not sure is he left or was let go and if we were the reason he is no longer there. Pep Boys replaced the tank again stating that tank was defective. I have faxed all the paperwork from VA to ** so he has proof of the initial repair. He said he will call me and he never did although I put my cell number on the fax. Later on, he stated that he never received any faxes from me, although I have a sent report to prove it.
The new tank started to show melting signs again. I went back to the store but this time, manager was very dismissive and I felt like I am begging for service. I felt so upset and uncomfortable and dismissed that I decided to go to other store on Ridge Pike that is close, too. I paid for the tank and it was again replaced. This time it lasted 2 weeks. When I called Pep Boys, I was dismissed and told that our truck has major issues that is not their fault and by the way, they have no lift to work on it (how did they work on it before, I have no clue but they did).
Our truck is 2006 Diesel, we have put in new cylinder heads, new head gaskets and pretty much rebuilt the whole engine and it was performing perfectly till that day when we broke down in VA. Pep Boys told me that I have head gasket problems and my pressure was too high and that is why tank melts. Not true. Head gasket was 2 weeks old and pressure test was done 2 times after repair and it was within the range, but when I told them that, I received same answer, our truck is basically defective. I felt frustrated and upset dealing with Pep Boys so I bought another tank and went to different mechanic to put it in. I paid $70 and this tank is in our truck till today and it looks like new.
I have another car that is mine and usually I did my maintenance at Tires Plus because it is 2012 and only needs basic oil change, breaks etc. This time I decided to go to Pep Boys to see if the service is better this time. I went in and they told me it takes 30 minutes and they do oil change, pressure check and tire rotation. I marked my tires and also I checked my pressure. One wheel had borderline pressure that every time I went on the highway, my lights came on but in the city light was off.
I waited in the waiting room and for 20 minutes, my car was at the parking lot and no one came to take it to the service bay. Only after 30 minutes went by, mechanic took my SUV. They gave it back to me in 10-15 minutes, I paid and left. I went on the highway in 20 minutes and as soon as I entered, my pressure light went on. I stopped and checked my pressure and it was EXACTLY the same as before. I checked my marks on tires and tires were the same as before. I called Pep Boys and told them that. They said, "OOPS, come back and we will put the air in for you, but we're 100% sure we rotated your tires". This was such a boldface lie that I never went back.
All this happen within 1 month of our initial truck repair, and our truck started loosing coolant again severely and stopped in Ohio this time. We towed it to the shop in Ohio and they told us we have cracked heater hose that we replaced at Pep Boys. This was the last straw with me. I called corporate office and filed complain with Pep Boys. I filed complain over 2 months ago, all I get is false promises and no result. I stay on hold for 40 minutes at a time and same answer, "We'll escalate it to higher level of management", but I only received two calls from VA Pep Boys. One call from mechanic (not manager) who said that they did very good repair and they were nice to me to get us on the road and the other issues we had is not their problem. When I said to him that his heater hose had cracked in one month, he said he will escalate to manager of the store who will call me back. NO ONE called me.
So finally almost 2 weeks ago after I complained to corporate again, Virginia store manager called me and gave me sob story that they are sorry and how much of the refund I want to get. I felt sorry for him and said that at least I want to get refund for all the tanks I bought plus labor to put it in. I was in the car driving and gave him estimated amount of $250 (but actually is was $350 when I checked), but I was so tired of this never-ending crusade that I wanted to move on. He offered credit card refund, I said sure and he said to hold till he gets into his system.
He kept me on hold for 5 to 10 minutes at a time coming back on the line asking me: "Are you there?" After I said that I am here, he said please hold again. I was waiting forever and then finally he told me that his system is down and he can't issue refund today. He offered to call next morning to complete the refund. I agreed. Next day, he didn't call. I waited another day, he didn't call. I called myself and they told me that he was off starting the day he told me he will call me. So now I saw the whole situation in the new light kept me on hold, hoping I give up and then he lied to me promising to call me when he knew perfectly well he is off for three days!!!
I talked to other manager, he said he can't help me and to wait till ** comes back. I called again the day he was supposed to be in but couldn't reach him. I waited two more days when he was already at work and he never called. I called corporate again and I got another 24 hour call promise. 24 hours went by, no one called. Now I called 4 days after deadline and I got another false promise that someone will call me soon. They gave me name Mark, Regional Manager who was to call me 2 months ago when I filed my initial complaint. I am yet to hear from him.
I am tired, angry and frustrated over Pep Boys customer service. If they had called me when I filed my complain and treated me like valued customer who spent close to $1,000 within few weeks, I would just understand and move on and hope that this bad service was an exception not the rule. But now I feel like Pep Boys treats customers like they are disposable and can be always replaced by someone else and I think this is the BIG problem of every large corporation when people do not matter. Customers can be replaced, same for the people who work for them. The only nice person I dealt with in Pep Boys in Norristown disappeared from the shop very quickly as soon as he gave great customer service.
I complained about manager ** at Norristown location 4 times to corporate but NO ACTION was taken. He never called or apologized. Few times I went back to the store to buy some parts and I saw his face, he doesn't say hello. He talks down to customers but corporate rather keep him. I stopped going to that store, I am only one person and Pep Boys will never care but for me, it makes a difference. I do not want to condone their poor personnel choice. I rather overpay to local family-owned auto shop than pay few dollars less to large corporation who doesn't respect its customers. Their commercials about friendly staff, reasonable process and great service is a BS if you ask me!!!
P.S. I finally received the call back and supposedly, they took my credit card number and issued refund but I will not know for sure till I see this refund in my account. They told me it takes from 24 to 48 hours but after everything I went through, I am not holding my breath. Maybe this is not over but I will not give up because this is question of principle and people out there who were mistreated by them, my advice is to keep fighting. One person will not make a difference but if everyone starts holding them accountable, maybe they will change. Stores # 0162 and #0019

5/21/2014: I had taken my Volvo to get the struts replaced at another Pep Boys prior to finding the one in Westminster on Beach & didn't get the problem solved, but Gene took my car in & looked at the struts & they did what they could with Volvo's design flaw. Volvo changed some things on this year of vehicle. I had some other work done there also & it was just fine & the Service Manager, Gene, & his Team fixed my vehicle. Gene really is a Customer Service Manager & all of the employees/staff there are all very friendly. Some cars are harder to work on than other cars, especially when the manufacturer is to blame. These guys do all they can to get your car back on the road & make sure that you are happy when you leave here. At least that is the experience that my wife & I had here. We will be returning customers of this store!
When my wife who uses a cane to get around got out there, we explained that the work done on my AC system (loose wire) was not soldered & had come undone (AC quit) & the 'AC tech' Phan said that the soldered wire that I did was his work & blatantly LIED. It wasn't even my best soldering, but it worked, but the AC system still failed to work... They refused any type of 'warranty' on their work & then told me that "it was going to be an insurance claim". Never did explain that One...
I asked about fixing my driver's side strut that they put on & they told me that they did NOT have the part, amount for that strut, even though I'd made the appointment a week ago or more, so then they just bring my vehicle out of the bay & hand me the keys. I'd asked them to at least 'charge my battery' as the AC loose wire 'work' had caused other problems & my battery wouldn't hold a charge from the loose wire shorting out my voltage regulator. My car stalled on the way home & we had to pay for a tow.
They may seem 'friendly' at first, but if you have any 'problems' with their shoddy work, they get angry & try to disown anything that they have done. The tow truck driver said that he'd heard nothing but complaints about ANY Pep Boys' work & recommended another service garage. They also refused to give me or my wife a copy of the 'work-order' that my wife signed. A little bit 'illegal' on that one Pep Boys...
Gene ** had also stated that our parts would be in the shop in a couple of days, but he'd also stated that it was going to an 'insurance claim', but refused to say exactly what that meant. I don't think they want to see me or my vehicle again, the way we were rushed out of there... I WILL NEVER GO TO ANY PEP BOYS EVER AGAIN & RECOMMEND THAT ANYBODY TAKE THEIR VEHICLE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!
Chapter 3: Talked to Gene ** & he said that Pep Boys was NOT going to do anything on my car & that we were 'done', even though the other tech/phone jockey stated that my struts parts were in. Gene ** refused to give me any of 'the insurance claim #' or reference or insurance company/claim information. Now they just hang up on us over the phone.
Chapter 4: Get a call from Pep Boys corporate & now Pep Boys wants to redo the struts that they removed & put back on wrong & this is after telling us that "They were done with my car & us"!?! Then they tell us that they are not going to warranty the AC system work they done & now I am having the motor 'act up' after they had supposedly done an injector cleaning, spark plugs & tune up. The 'insurance claim' that Gene ** stated it would be turned over to never surfaced. Never heard a word from any insurance company & we assume that Pep Boys just wanted/hoping that us & our vehicle would just go away... When a person brings their vehicle in to be repaired, that is all that they are expecting - a repair done right & not a bunch of drama. STAY AWAY FROM PEP BOYS!!!
Chapter 5: Pep Boys called us & said that now they wanted to 'finish' our struts after they'd damn near ran us off & said that they were done with our car and kept stating that it would be an insurance claim!?! They still did not get it right & refused to warranty the electrical work & the tune up/fuel injection service, even though we paid for the 'extended warranty'! They also broke a wire on one of my fuel injectors & just twisted it back together with no solder or heat shrink tape... WTF?!? & refused to even examine anything but the struts & still screwed them up. Guess Chapter 6 will be after small claims court...
Chapter 6: Pep Boys store # 0653 had also done a tune up package & a fuel injection service & then unknowingly charged me for an extended warranty service agreement & now they refuse to even look at my vehicle & I am getting 5 codes on the check engine light, all related to tune up/fuel injection. I called & they always state that they'll return my call in a few minutes. 30 minutes later, no return call. I call again & get the same 'song & dance'...

I bought new tires and was told my rim was bent...but I should not have a problem. Prior to getting new tires, the tire with the bent rim kept needing air. They said because the tire was worn out. New tires didn't solve problem so they ordered a new rim.
When I took the car in for breaks to be repaired again at Pep Boys in same town but different location, they all asked "Who put that rim on? It doesn't fit." When I told them the other Pep Boys did it, they changed their story to it doesn't match...but it fits. Once I got the new rim, my car has this loud race car sound. Took it back to Pep Boys that put the rim on after yet another Pep Boys said it is wheel noise only for them to blame it on something else... That would cost 600 to fix. I said no. I attempted to contact customer service, had to wait on hold 30+ min for a rep who apologized and told me the site was having problems and the label would be emailed as a PDF in 2 business days. It wasn't. So I call again after a few days and endure another 30 min of hold music before I can request the label, which I received the next day.
I sent in the core return and a month later still don't see the core charge credited to my credit card although FedEx tracking shows the part was received. Another 30 min of hold music before I am told that, yes, the part was received but for some reason the core charge wasn't refunded. No phone call. No email. So I call again on Saturday. Only have to endure 5 min of horrible hold music this time. Lucky me. Am told by the rep he will check with his supervisor and call me back. The saga continues.

They put it on the scope and told me what had to be done. They repaired one thing after another with no success of repairing the engine light. It was still on when I got the car back after I had paid them at 3 different occasions over $1650.00. After I contacted them again, I was told they had to run more test. I needed the car registered so I could use it and was told to bring it in to get an exemption since I could prove that I had paid more than was required but that it is only good for 1 time which is 2 years. What can be done for me by Nissan or Pep Boys? I'm on disability and don't have the money to buy another car and this one is still running good.

Had 4 new tires installed. No problem. Mechanic stated my brakes are metal to metal and I should replace it right away. It made me worried but I have no time to leave the bar to have it replaced right away. I ordered the brakes anyway. Weekend came and I checked the brakes. None of them are metal to metal. Back is 90 percent. Front is 35 percent. Mechanic used the fear technique on me. That was a dishonest action. I regret giving them my tire business. So please beware of their advise. I attached the new and old brake pads. You be the judge.

Took my car in on Thursday, 7/31/14, for service to Pep Boys in Hunting Park Ave., Philadelphia, PA because my car was having starting problems. After a test, they told me it was the alternator that need to be change. I give them the green light to proceed with the job and change the alternator. After they charge me $448.75 for the work done in my car, 2 days after, the car start having starting problems again. I took my vehicle to Pep Boys for the second time the same week and after a quick test they told me that this time was probably the starter but they was not even sure if that was the problem. Then they told me that if I want, they can change the starter but that was under my responsibility because they was not sure if the problem was the starter and they need it to charge me again because that was a different part on my car that need to be change. I ask them why I have to paid again for the same problem that I took my car to Pep Boys the first time? They keep insisting that it was a different part that need to be change and that's why they need to charge more after they told me 2 days before my car was fix. They are a rip off but I did contact their corporate head and reported them.

Went to Coon Rapids store for oil change & tire rotation. They said they couldn't rotate them because I needed new tires. The service writer gave me a quote for a set of tires that were on clearance, and I told them to go ahead and put them on. After waiting 45 minutes, she came out and told me that she had looked up the wrong size and that the tire was no longer available for my car. By then I needed to leave, so she suggested I look up tires on their website. I wasted a fair amount of my weekend dealing with repeated crashes on their website until I finally got through today.
Since the site said the nearest store had an acceptable set of tires in stock I ordered them, made an online appointment, and brought them my car. It took an inordinate amount of time to check in because they kept taking phone calls instead of taking care of people in line. When it was my turn it took even more time because, according to the service writer, they need to re-enter all the online info in order for the mechanic to get credit. When he was finally done, he said the car would be ready in 1 hour.
Just before the hour was up, he called to say that they "didn't have those tires in stock", but had a different set for $57.00 more. I told him no, and that I'd be right over to get my car. I had to wait my turn again, just to get my car back. The guy said he was sorry, but this happens all the time and it was my fault for not verifying that the tires were actually in stock!!

On July 28, 2014 I had my truck towed to Pep Boys. Located at 10200 Broad Channel Rd, Miami, Fl 33157, 305-252-7311. My truck is a 2000 GMC 2500 4x4. The reason the truck was taken to Pep Boys was to replace 2 pressurized hoses that attach the power winch to the Power steering pump. I was told that they would call me with an estimate. The following day, **, the service advisor, called with an estimate of $1,134.66. After discussing the issue further with service advisor, I requested they give me a quote to bypass the lines to the winch, in other words cap off the line. For this I received a quote of $719.50. I instructed the service advisor not to do any work on my truck and that I would come in the following day. On Wednesday July 30, 2014 I went to Pep Boys to pay for the tow and the estimate. While I was discussing the issue with **, another service advisor I let him know that I was very disappointed with the quote for the repair.
I explained my position and asked for the manager. The manager was called, his name is **. I spoke with ** and explained the 2 different quotes that I got for the repair. I asked for him to look at the truck and the hoses that needed to be replaced. After looking at the truck he asked me to leave the truck overnight so that he could have another mechanic look at the repair and call me with another quote. On Thursday July 31, 2014, I received a call from ** yet another service advisor with the new quote of $346.38. I told ** that I would come in later in the day and discuss what we were going to do. I arrived at Pep Boys and asked for the manager I dealt with to discuss the new estimate. Unfortunately he was not working so I asked ** when he would be in. ** told me that he would be in Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
I arrive Saturday at noon and asked for **. We went over the quote and this did not even include replacing the pump so I told him that I would not be doing the work with Pep Boys. This is where the situation got escalated. Apparently the gentleman ** (which is the Service Manager), his name is ** did not like the fact that I would not be doing the work and became condescending. I asked if he thought something was funny because he was using a condescending smirk and saying that they were not charging me the tow or estimate because the big ordeal. The only reason they did not charge was because I let them know I was writing an email to their corporate offices. Apparently at this shop it is encouraged to upsell unnecessary repairs. I have the 3 different estimates. They even have a board indicating who sells what like some sort of contest. At the time on the board ** was in the lead.

As a previous Pep Boys customer, I have become extremely upset with Pep Boys in Augusta, GA. Recently they have changed their store hours to where a working man cannot reach them after work. It is not reasonable for Pep Boys to require someone to lose income in order to do business with you. Also today, 7/17/14, I called (706) 736-9971 at 6:36pm and a recording said the store was closed. However I dialed 0 and a young man answered and I asked to speak to the repair shop and was transferred. Upon waiting for 5 minutes, someone mishandled the phone and then hung up on me. I could not get through after that, and at that point I became one star angry. Please contact me regarding this matter.

It wasn't busy, in fact I was the only person in the waiting area. They forgot about me. Apologized and said they would install my tires immediately. When I got the receipt I noticed they had charged me for the oil change. Asked why I was charged. Dales rep told me he was sorry he could not give me the free oil change. Two weeks ago, I took my car in to be inspected. It failed because all three tires had dry rot. Yesterday the front driver tire broke open then shredded. These tires are clearly defective yet Pep Boys refuses to give me new tires or a refund.

I took my vehicle into Pep Boys on the morning of 07/16/2014 for a flat tire repair. All of my Rims on my car were in perfect condition when I took my vehicle in. I drove home and looked at the repair done to the passenger back tire and noticed that my rim now has been scratched up. I called the store back and the manager Pete advised me to bring it in. When I get there, he looks at it and tells me that I hit a curb and that his machine couldn't have done this. After advising that this is not my doing, he tells me it could have been someone else. I tell him I am the only driver of my car. I advised him that I just got the vehicle. His reply was it could have been the previous owner of the vehicle that his machine is not capable of doing this. He continues to tell me it was curb damage. Then he gets the general manager who comes out and tells me the same thing - I hit a curb that his machine is not capable of doing this. He takes a picture of my damage and then he walks around and looks at the other rims and walks away.
I was just left standing there. Then I asked the manager Pete what was the general manger doing. He paged him and the general manager came out. I asked, "What is going on with the situation?" His reply: "I thought Pete was taking care of you." I said no, he tells me that he will need to do an investigation, watch video tapes and forward information over to his manager and he tells me he will call the car dealer where I purchased the vehicle to get a report from them and he doesn't know how long all this will take. My vehicle had no damage to it before taking it to Pep Boys, until after the repair was done. Now I have a scratched-up rim.

I took my 2000 Jeep Cherokee in for a small leak in my brake line so that I could sell it to my sister. I thought I could trust Pep Boys because they were a well known company and I don't take my chances when it comes to brake work. Once I took my Jeep in on 07/11/14, they told me they would call me that night giving me the status of the Jeep after the initial brake inspection. No call that night, or the next day 07/12/14, finally I decide I have to call. The jeep still had not been looked at! About an hour after I called, I got a call back confirming that there was a small leak in the brake line and that the master cylinder "will probably need fixed as well".
Once I started asking questions about where the brake leak was and why they didn't know for sure whether the master cylinder needed fixed or not, I was spoken to harshly like I was an idiot. Once I asked about the total price of everything I was quoted $576. This blew me away considering that they told me brake line repairs only cost at most $200. Once I asked questions about that I was spoken to the same way! I felt like they were jerking me around because I am a young woman with little knowledge about cars. They told me in almost all cases the master cylinder needed replaced. When I told them I was coming to pick the Jeep up for a second opinion I got the responds of "Good Luck, we already 'cracked' the brake lines on all four sides so the Jeep is unable to brake at all". I had my dad call and talk to the service manager.
Sam, the service manager was the only thing pleasant about this experience. He gave me the accurate price of $281 total, that price was including the cost of the master cylinder, and labor. He also contradicted the other guy and said in only about 10% of cases the master cylinder needs replaced as well. How is there a price difference of almost $300 and the work that "most likely needs done" change only when my dad calls and talks to a manager?! I will NEVER return and am extremely disappointed.

10 months ago, this store replaced the AC compressor and some other AC parts, covered under our extended warranty for our 2007 Ford Freestyle. The experience was chaotic and unpleasant. When the AC broke down again a few weeks ago, we took the car to a quality mechanic, but our warranty company said the parts were covered by Pep Boys and we MUST take the car there.
This second experience was horrific and today we learned had a life threatening consequence (I will get to that soon). First of all, the vehicle was ready a full day before anyone called to tell us. In addition, no one ever called to tell us if the side issue of the washer fluid motor was covered, they just fixed it and tried to charge us for the repair. Long story - shorter, after some loud complaining, there was no charge.
After a few days, the radiator light came on and when I opened the hood, I found that the "mechanic" never put the cap on and he also left the caps off the AC fill nipples. I have a photo of how they left it. This issue was not enough to bring me back to the shop to complain, but things are different now. Shortly after getting the car back, we began experiencing a phantom acceleration when the AC was on and also a sudden pull to the right upon acceleration. These two problems steadily grew worse until we felt the car was unsafe to drive. In fact, in one instance the pull was so sudden and hard it threw the car towards another car in the lane next to us and caused that car's driver to swerve into another car, causing an accident.
Today, we took the car to the shop where Andy, our ASE certified friend works. This quality of service is not acceptable and put my family and others at serious risk of loss and injury. You need to work a lot harder to just achieve "acceptable" status in both mechanic service and customer service.

You should know a few things about Pep Boys right off the bat. First, they charge about the same as many dealer mechanics. So, you should basically just take the car to the dealer or an upmarket independent who has more reason to care about your car. In addition, you will wait an awful lot for service with such a mark-up. Again, if one pays a premium, one expects a certain amount of service. The last thing you should know is that they seem to lack an enforced policy with regard to their work. If you walk in, you are just dealing with Mike, and if Mike does not feel like giving you a refund, that is that.
My story is that I took my Buick in to have it checked out since I was going to drive it across country. They charged me $485 for a belt and two radiator hoses. This is somewhat of a premium price and I will discuss that is just a minute. I got my car and drove it for a few days (it was repaired on 6/5/2014). The radiator then blew out in Jackson Hole, Wyoming (on 6/13/2014). This is pretty far from where I live and it really created a lot of problems for me. The fluid it leaked was green. It turns out that they put regular pro-line coolant and not Dex-Cool as the manufacturer recommends. This is documented in the receipt and I saw it with my own eyes. Did this cause my blow out? It’s hard to say, but if a surgeon leaves a surgical sponge in the patient and they get sepsis, it’s likely they will blame the surgeon.
When I brought my receipts and material to Mike ** the service manager, his opinion was that I needed to prove it was their fault. The funny thing was I was extremely polite and was trying not to point any fingers. Even a simple apology would have been nice. Now I’m out $485 for the repairs which had absolutely no effect in preventing what they were intended to do. I brought the car in to prevent a radiator blow out, and they did the job wrong and it blew out… in the middle of nowhere. The extra repair cost me $471 (plus $200 to have the part driven in from Idaho Falls).
So I’m out over a thousand dollars now with nothing to show for it. The interesting thing to note is that a whole new radiator at a standard mechanic costs the same as two hoses and a belt from Pep Boys. This gives you an idea of the mark-up they charge on work. In the future, I will not bring any business to Pep Boys. I hope that the 20% margin they made was worth it. That’s the last they will see of me and the last dollar I will spend with their store.

I had my car serviced at a local PEP BOYS service center. I needed a ton of work on my 1995 Nissan Quest GXE mini van. I already had a list of things to fix, and repair from another auto repair shop. In fact I took my van to 2 other places before I came to PEP BOYS. The other repair shops both said I should get a new car, and not bother getting my van fixed. Well I didn't have enough money to get a new car, so I thought I would try PEP BOYS. Well, I brought my van by early in the day, and I gave them my van, keys, and all the paperwork I got from the other auto repair shop. I also had my own list of things to do which I also gave to them. I had to rent a car also because the work would take awhile. Well, the work took much longer than they said. I called at least a couple of times a day to see if they were finished yet, as I was renting a car I was anxious to get things done. Well they finally got done after a week or more. When I went to pick up my van they did keep the work under budget, but it took many phone calls to bug them to get things done.
Well when I looked at the paperwork that they gave me some of the things that I wanted them to fix were NOT DONE! So I had to take my van back to fix the things they didn't do the first time. Again I had to rent a car and wait a LONG time for them to fix everything. Finally I got my van back and it made a LOUD squealing noise every time I made a turn. I took my van back a third time and asked someone to take a look at my van. I waited a LONG time and someone named "Freddie" came and did look at my van and said he thought it was the power steering pump. I thought I needed a new pump but Freddie said all I might need is a copper washer for the pump. He put it on a rack and put in the new washer and test drove it to see if it did the job, thank God it did. But Freddie said I had an oil "leak" and I should have it fixed. Well I have a PEP BOYS reward card, and I had a $100.00 reward card coming in the mail, and a $85.00 reward card also coming in the mail. So I had PEP BOYS give me a "Written" estimate for the oil leak to be fixed. They gave me a written estimate of $185.00, and I planned to get the work done as soon as I got the 2 reward cards.
Well after several months, I finally got both reward cards, one for $100.00 and one for $85.00. After a while I made an appointment to take in my van. I got there early in the day and my Wife was with me. I asked how long it would take, they said 2 hours, so my Wife said we would stay till they were done and go home (so we would not have to rent a car). Well after an hour and a half one of the guys said there was a problem, it would take a lot longer to fix, and be over $300.00 to fix not $185.00 per the "written" estimate. That was a RED FLAG!. WE had an estimate I expected them to keep the budget. Well I had to rent a car again, and when they were finally done I went back and I asked them to keep the bill to the written estimate. Gus said he would give me $50.00 off. That was not much! And now the real pain starts. I gave Gus my two reward cards one for $100.00 and one for $85.00, and he said he didn't think he could use both, but would try anyway. Well he scanned the cards and said he could not take both. So I asked him to use the $100.00 card. He scanned it twice and seemed to stare at the screen a long time and then he smiled O.K., like it worked!
But when I got home I looked at the bill and I noticed the $100.00 reward card was NOT! taken off. I was very angry. I called 1800 PEP BOYS, many times to get my $100.00 credit but to no avail. I talked to "Navim", he said that they would put $100.00 back on my debit card in 3 to 4 days. Weeks later still no money. I called Navim and asked about my money he said they put it on a "Chase" account and from there it would go to my "BU" account. I knew he was lying, so I called many times to the 800 PEP BOYS number and I talked to "Hanyili" and she said on the 6th of June I would get a new card in 7-10 days, well on the 20th I called and got Hanyili and she said she didn't know why I didn't get my card but she would send one in 7-10 days. I told her that would be no good as my reward card expires at the end of June. She said that I should wait and get the expired card and wait another 14 days then I could call and get a "New" card. I give UP! PEP BOYS are liars, and will tell you anything to get rid of you. Don't go to PEP BOYS, they are con men. I have AAA road service, and I will go for now on to a AAA certified auto repair shop, NO MORE PEP BOYS!

Words can't express how disgusted I am with my experience at the Norristown site. I had brake work done on two separate occasions, after which the brake lines broke 3 days later. Now, one would think that being it was on a lift, not once but twice, someone would catch that a brake line was leaking, which is something I knew, and should proceed to have the brakes replaced due to noise. So after but yet a third time, they informed that it would now $700.00 to fix the repairs. While questioning the work to begin done with, I part-paid with a voucher that help to parent back to work. When this voucher and the work were questioned by assistance office, the bill now became $1500.00. So I am working to get my own life back on track and had put my saving into the car. I called on Friday, 6/13/14, to have the $1500.00 worth of work done to car, where I was refused service and told basically that they were waiting for a tow truck to remove it from their lot.
All the while, I have spoken with Chris, the service manager, then Patrick, Marcia, and Mark, who was extremely rude and pretty much told me that they would not put my car back on a lift and that my car was not worth me fixing, because it cost more than the car. I explained to Mark that is the car I own and I make the decision if it is fixable or not. And that whom did the work on my car was liar because one, think that you would look to check the brakes, if your doing entire brake job. As the point, I drove the car home with the emergency brake on, since refused service and left with no options. Now, I have no real idea as to whether this car is repairable or not because the quote that I received states "brakes line, shocks, and muffler problems." Nowhere does it say problems: frame, suspension, ball joints, lifts arms...etc. You get the point. In my 28 years of driving, I never encounter this type of service.
I trained by Sears that everyone person knows 10 people. Guess how many people I can email, Facebook, Twitter, or media service to spread how Pep Boys treats people. Thanks for store 0019, service order **, **, ** I will not be going back to Pep Boys a time soon.

I took my car to be serviced at the Pep Boys located at 6511 Foothill Blvd Tujunga, CA 91042 earlier this week to change the spark plugs and get the coolant flushed, which was recommended. I did not have any problems with my car prior to bringing it in. Today as I was driving to work, I saw steam coming out of my hood and I immediately looked at the dashboard and saw that the temperature gauge was already in the H area, red. I exited the freeway right away and parked and opened the hood and there was coolant everywhere. I called Pep Boys and spoke with ** (the original person who helped me, and store manager) who told me to bring the car in and suggested I call AAA. I called the roadside assistance that I had but I was only covered for $75 so I would have to pay the rest.
When the car arrived at the shop, ** was there and told me that they would inspect the car and if it turned out to be Pep Boys fault, they would take care of everything. He ended telling me that the hose was cracked and would need to be replaced and that that wasn't the fault of Pep Boys. How could that not have been their fault if my car's cooling system was fine before all of this? Plus they told me they supposedly inspected my car, so wouldn't they have found that hose in the beginning and we would have prevented this? I got my car taken there to prevent this from happening in the beginning. He offered to fix the upper hose for free but told me that I would need to fix for the lower hose out of pocket, which I couldn't do since I lost $300 of wages from missing work that day and had to pay a tow truck an extra $70.
Comes to find out that Pep Boys has their own towing company which would have only cost me $30. This was never even mentioned to me by ** and that was another thing that upset me as well. When me and my husband were speaking with **, he mentioned how it was important to change the hoses when servicing a car for 100k miles. Well then why didn't he tell us when we did go there to service our car with the 100K package service? If we had known the hose should have been changed when they flushed the cooling system, then we would have changed it.

On a Thursday we took it in to the PepBoys in Bay Shore, NY but they claimed it was too busy, so we made an appointment for the following Saturday at 10AM. We showed up 20 minutes early and the same guy was at the counter and again claimed they were too busy. I told him we had an appointment and the job needed done right then and we were not going to let them get out of it.. and I was very polite but was getting angry because he actually turned and started talking to another worker... completely ignoring me.. talking about something completely unrelated to work.
There was 5 men behind the counter but no one wanted to do the job, but they finally got someone but he was clearly disappointed that he had to do some actual work. I'll try to keep this short but want to be complete. The job was an alignment and tire rotation. Nothing big, but I was hoping the thump was caused by misalignment or that they could find the problem. After 2 hours, he came back and said it was finished and the thump was PROBABLY a driver side tie rod. We paid them and left. The car drove worse than before.. The steering wheel was now swinging back and forth and the car served to the right even more than before we took it in. I knew we needed tires and was hoping Costco also did alignment, which they do not.
The guy at Costco's tire dept was very professional and said he would try to find the problem while installing 2 new tires. They found the problem very fast. One of the tires had a ripped belt. He showed it to me and it was so obvious that there is no way the guy at PepBoys could have missed this if he rotated the tires. PepBoys lost a customer. I will never take any of my vehicles to a PepBoys again. They are very lucky that we went to Costco and they found the problem because if we hadn't, my wife could have been in an accident and I would take that very personally.

The battery was loose dancing around in the battery tray sparking all over the place. I went and got a battery hold down, put it in for her, problem solved, wrong... Couple months go by, I lift the car up to give it a quick check and oil change! Now I see the caliper slide pin on the driver's side wheel was never put back when the brakes were done at Pep Boys last time. The end links on the stabilizer bar weren't even there. The caliper is now worn out from all the banging around! Now it needs new calipers in the front (because both should be replaced in pairs). And it also needs the stabilizer bar links...

Car was making a sound like it wouldn't start. I thought maybe Starter or Fuel Pump (or whatever, since it's Fuel Injected). Pep Boys "scoped it" and said my battery was only cranking at 70%. This battery, a Die Hard from Sears/ K-Mart, was less than 2 years old (probably closer to a year). I'm not rich, I'm on Social Security. I spent $137 for new battery at Pep Boys. No paperwork, only a receipt, which I've put in my wallet for protection. Car does same thing it did when I took it there. What next?

I had my service "A" done at Pep Boys on Friday, May 23rd. On May 26th, my car suddenly started showing that engine needs to be checked. It wasn't showing that before I brought it to Pep Boys. The message showed up on my display 3 days after the service. Thus, I telephoned them to see if they could help me and explain why suddenly I needed my engine checked. A person on the phone told me to bring my car next morning, which I did, but apparently I had to wait 3-4 hours, so I made an appointment for another available day as I couldn't wait that long on that day.
My Appointment was for Friday, 30 at 10 am. I came exactly 10 am, left my car and went off. For 6 hours, I wasn't receiving any phone calls, so I came back to the car shop at 4 pm and how surprised I was to find out that my car wasn't even looked at. How come you make an appointment and then 6 hours after your car stays at the same spot you left it, untouched? Moreover, I'm still puzzled why suddenly my car needs an engine check when it hadn't needed it before I brought it to the Pep Boys? I'm very disappointed at their service, won't trust these people ever again and will make sure to let all my friends know what a poor experience I had with this company, so nobody makes the same mistake that I made.

My 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport wouldn't start. I towed it to Pep Boys (Buford Mall of GA) 5/18 that night. The next morning when they opened, I described the problem and authorized them to make the diagnosis ($89). Pep Boys mechanic came back and said it was the A/C compressor locking the belt causing the car to not start - $800+ to replace it. I authorized the repair and left the store. I asked them to call me when it's ready to pick up. They never called so I called them asking for an update. They say "It wasn't the A/C compressor but my compressor was bad so they replaced it", and "that they will continue to work on the problem until they find it."
Well... days later, they still hadn't found the problem. I asked for my car to be released to take it to the dealer so a "factory mechanic" can try and figure it out. They said I have to pay $945 to pick the car up. I said, "I don't want their compressor. I want my car to start" which is what I asked them for initially. Essentially, I have the same problem I had when I had the car towed there - just $945 lighter in the pocket. I called their corporate office on Tuesday 5/20 who said "The manager has 48 to resolve this issue." 48 hrs came and went. I hadn't heard from anyone.
5/23 I went back to the store to pick my car up and have it towed. I called the police. They showed up (3 deep) but couldn't do anything b/c they say it's not a police related issue. I paid the $945 b/c I had no choice and had the vehicle towed to the Jeep Dealer to start all over again. No compensation or even an apology was offered by Pep Boys.

I bought a new set of tires for my Chevy Silverado at Pep Boys in Cranberry Township, PA. On the drive home, I noticed heavy shaking and rumbling. I returned to the store with my complaint that the truck vibrated excessively, especially at 75MPH. The manager stated that their balancer only went up to 65 MPH and therefore they couldn't guarantee the balance of the wheels at any speeds above 65MPH. I have never heard such a BS excuse in all of my life. After stern protest, he agreed to re-balance the wheels. It seems they ARE able to balance tires for speeds about 65MPH after all, if they really try. I drove home without incident, after driving an additional 25 miles and wasting 2 hours out of my life.

I went to a PepBoys tire center in Forest Park, IL on Harlem and Lake to buy some new tires. Once I purchased the tires they proceeded with taking my old tires off and putting the new tires back on my rims. The tire machine scratched all 4 rims and when I confronted them about it, they aren't willing to help now. The moron manager keeps telling me that it's curb rash, or that the rims were already damaged or that he wants to look at the camera footage first, but keeps putting it off for 2 weeks now. I called corporate. I filed complaints. I keep calling them at the store. I am getting no good answers. The damage clearly came from their stupid machine because it wasn't there when I pulled my car in. The previous tires came with the car from the factory, and had an extended wall to protect rims from curb rash in the first place although I never ran into any freaking curbs. I'm fed up with this. I want my rims replaced....
I hate PepBoys, and it's not the first time they screwed me. In the past I had them replace a starter and I wouldn't be surprised if they just cleaned the old one and put it back in because it died months after again. My friend replaced it again in my garage and the car hasn't had problems still... How can my friend replace it with 2 tools and make it work but PepBoys couldn't with all their ** technicians and a world of tools??? Anyway I posted an image, all 4 rims are like that.

We took our Toyota Tundra 2005 truck in for big repair twice within the past 3 months. We should have visited the location in the med center but since this location is near home we decided to go with them. The first repair was good. However, the second one was a mess. Since I will have a lot to say, I will break it down.
1. Their online appointment scheduler is pointless. For one of the follow up visits, I made the appointment online for 9am. When I got there, they didn't get the truck in immediately (9am firm). When I asked them why, they said that they were very busy and I had to wait for 30 minutes or so. They did say the truck will be ready by 10am. Guess what, it didn't happen. I went to Kroger next door, came back at 10am and the truck was still in the parking lot! This is so freaking dumb! If you wouldn't care to honor appointments, why bothered to have the system? They got too busy and out of hand weren't my problem. Right? Obviously, they thought that I had all day to wait there. I was as busy as them as I have my 1 year old to take care of. No compensation, nothing for wasting my time. Smart move, you big fat idiots!
2. Part of the repair was involved with replacing the ABS sensor. ABS sensor was ordered during the initial visit. Here is the interesting part: We hadn't been told that it was going to be a generic part. The part didn't work and was told a Toyota part needed to be ordered. The part was supposedly ordered in 2 weeks. They promised that they would call when the part arrived, but nope, they didn't! We had to call to follow up. What kind of customer service was that? Liars. We called but they said it wasn't there. Okay. Alright we waited another week and they called us that the part was finally there. Morons told us in person that it will only take 5 minutes to pop the ABS sensor in and we are ready to go! We made the appointment on the phone and as usual, we got there on time. Guess what, they made us wait again! This time we waited for an hour and haha... you wouldn't believe what happened. They said it didn't work again and we must leave our truck there for another day in order to them to figure why.
3. Incompetent losers. So since they couldn't figure why, and it was our job to take the truck back and forth 3 times to make it right???? Note that we had to take another car to go home with. They had no loaner car or shuttle to provide. It was a big waste of time and gas. They should have double checked/diagnosed everything in the first place as the first time they had the truck for 1 day as well. For the third attempt, they finally figured out why: it was the loose/old wires connected to the ABS sensor that failed. Again, we deserved to be compensated, but nothing! Absolutely nothing to make it right!
If you need car repair of any sort, please think twice before visiting this location. Personally, we wouldn't recommend them and will we return? We don't think so. We will find another place for sure.

On December 28, 2013, I purchased four tires with road hazard warranty from Pep Boys on Military Highway in Norfolk, VA. I also was charged $13.88 for an amber left turn signal bulb that was never installed. I returned to Pep Boys and "Moe" only refunded the $5.39 charge for the bulb and refused to refund the $8.49 for labor. At that point, I realized that I was dealing with deception and decided not to return for any services.
On April 7, 2014, I had to return because I had one visible nail in my tire and wanted it repaired under my road hazard warranty. I had driven approximately 2,000 miles and the tire was still practically brand new. Moe did an invoice for over $40.00 and when I questioned the charge since I had road hazard warranty, she pretended not to realize I had the warranty even though she had a copy of my tire invoice in her hand. About three hours later (I was a walk in), Moe informed me that the mechanic had found three nails in my tire and according to their policy the tire had to be replaced. I requested to see the three nails and she summons the mechanic who told me he had already plugged the nails before he realized that a new tire had to be purchased, and thus could not show me the extra two nails. I knew my tire only had one nail in it.
I am a female senior citizen and Pep Boys decided to take advantage of me. At that point I should have left since I had been there practically the entire day. I decided to leave the customer service lounge and go outside. I found my car in the same space where I originally parked it. My car had never been driven in the shop for repair. I questioned Moe and she said they had moved it, but returned it to that space because they had to discuss the three nails with me. Why had the mechanic removed the nails prior to allowing me to view them? It was nothing but a lie and pure deception.
I returned to the lounge near all of the new tires. I never saw any mechanic come for a new tire. I realized that I was not going to receive a new tire, only the plugged tire that I initially brought to Pep Boys. I walked around the back of the shop and watched the young man remove my tire. When he noticed me watching, he walked inside and returned with a brand new tire. Had I not been watching, I truly believe he was going to plug that tire which only had one nail.
I was charged $72.67 which included a steering suspension evaluation which was never done. My invoice is as follows: wheel balance $12.99; road hazard warranty $11.73; rubber valve stem $3.74; steering suspension evaluation $19.99; scrambler (road hazard) $20.24; VA tire recycling fee $ .50; and shop fee $1.59 and tax of $1.89. At no time did Moe discuss any of those charges with me. This was my charge to repair a nail in a $79.99 original price tire.
I contacted customer service and they have not even responded to my concerns. I only wish I had read some of these concerns prior to ever going to Pep Boys. After reading other reviews and complaints, I now realize this may be a common practice at all Pep Boys. I feel so stupid for allowing this to happen to me. This has been a costly experience for me but I truly hope I can prevent someone else from being taken by Pep Boys' unethical practices. I will never return to Pep Boys - not even for the free services (tire rotation) associated with purchasing four new tires. I had always purchased my tires from Merchants with no problems whatsoever. I went with Pep Boys this time because of the online sale price of four tires. I will return to Merchants and pay for the tire rotations and any other problems rather than utilize the $41.96 road hazard warranty I paid Pep Boys for the four tires.

I took my car to Pep Boys for a brake inspection and was told I needed all new brake pads due to 2mm thickness and were cracking. Also my brake fluid is leaking along with leaking front struts. Rotors needed resurfacing repair or replace front shocks, brake fluid exchanged. All for approx. $1000.00!!!! I declined service and asked to have my car back. Then the technician neglected to put back on my "caliper slide bolt" on driver's side... So I drove around for almost two weeks hearing this "clanging" noise under my car. I was concerned so had a 25-year veteran mechanic take a look at my car and stated nothing was wrong with my car and I did not need new brake pads! I have pasted his email to me here for everyone to read:
"Okay, first thing to remember is that everything on the Pep boys print out was just a 'recommendation' probably based on the mileage of the vehicle....which was practically nothing. Here's the break out:
Front brake pads were not 2mm thick; they were more like 6mm....possibly 8mm. Practically brand new and still had the bevel on the outside of the pads. Rear pads were the same....still had the bevel on the outside of the pads. Front and rear pads didn't even show the slightest sign of cracking. Driver side front lower brake caliper slide bolt was not re-installed after brake inspection, and held by one slide bolt only. Rotors have no indication of cracking or bluing from overheating. Pulsating at the brake pedal, nor shimmy at the steering wheel is felt when brakes are applied. The requirement to turn rotors may not exist (recommendation).
Brake fluid in reservoir appeared to have the same color and consistency as fresh fluid from the bottle. The requirement to evacuate and replenish brake fluid may not exist (recommendation). Front right strut showed no sign of leakage. Front left strut had minor accumulation of dirt on lower section but accumulation did not appear to be caused by oil leaking from strut. At best, the only thing that might have been needed was a spray down of each brake unit with brake cleaner.... which was done. Even that may not have needed to be done as the presence of brake dust and such was so minimal. Hope this helps."
I HAVE ASKED CORPORATE TO PAY FOR MY NEW FACTORY BOLT ($20.00) BUT I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT DUE TO THEIR NEGLIGENCE!!!

He told me it was a easy fix and it will take a few hours. Hours went by, I called them. They said it will be ready the next day. Okay fine. Next morning come, "Yes sir, we have your car ready this afternoon."
I get no phone call. I decide to call them about 1 pm. Yes, the car will be ready in a couple hours. Call back at 7:30 pm. They close at 8pm. "Um, what it is that we need a special tool and the only mechanic That has the tool Is not here today. We will have your car ready tomorrow." Monday afternoon comes around. So I tell the manager when I brought my car in that it was explained to me that it was an easy fix.
That manager stated that the person that was assigned to my car was not even knowledgeable of my car engine and how difficult it is to work on. So I come back the next day to get my car. Couple week later, I had to keep filling my power steering fluid up. Come to found out it was never my valve Cover gasket. My power steering line had a leak. I take it back. I went there with both of my cars a few times. Good service, but always underestimated how long it would take for the service. Not a big problem though, without an appointment. I complained one day that it was taking a long time and the manager gave me a free wheel alignment and took money off the bill, but also said he was going to take the mechanic’s commission for being too slow. This concerned me since my car was still in there being cared for by the mechanic? It would be like sending your food back to the kitchen after complaining and telling the chef he was not going to get paid, but hurry up.
When I picked my car up and went to use the windshield wipers, wires were hanging out of the engine. They said it was the old wires and they replaced them? I went in for my tires? The next problem is that I kept hearing a metallic scraping sound and pulled over and found that my transmission fluid spout used to add fluid or check fluid had been deliberately cut, yes cut off and that was dragging under my car?
Of course Pep Boys denied any liability for it and I had to file a police report with the Coral Springs police department, call Pep Boys corporate and will file a civil suit. Get your car checked if you had service at Pep Boys. When was the last time you actually checked your transmission fluid level? I would not have noticed this if it wasn't making noise? What would be the benefit of this for Pep Boys or the mechanic?
About $2500 for a new transmission... One of the highest end things they do? Just think every puddle you hit splashes a little water up in to the engine and drop after drop floods your transmission fluid with water and ruins the transmission over time. Then when it fails, you go back not even thinking they did this to your car? Seriously, just take a look at your car to see? Hopefully it was just a rogue angry mechanic and not a business practice at PEP Boys.

On a Friday afternoon, I took my 2006 VW Jetta GLI in for an oil change, get a check engine light diagnosed and get the tires rotated and balanced. During the oil change, the service guy noticed that the CV boot on my right front axle was torn open and that the "sway bars" had gone bad and were messing with the shocks. So the shocks, "sway bars" and the CV boot needed to be replaced. Also, I had a tail light that was acting up and the check engine light was due to a faulty coolant system sensor. And my front tires needed to be replaced.
Now, I knew about the tail light and I remembered months ago that the dealership told me that the CV boot had developed a crack and that I would need to get it replaced. So my bad for forgetting and getting to the point where it tore open. Knowing that this was a lot more money on maintenance than I had hoped to spend, I had to prioritize. So they finished the oil change and charged me for that. The service guy told me that he had to order the CV boot and the sway bars and told me how much it would all cost with labor. So I say to order the parts and I'll come back the next Friday afternoon to get them installed. He says sure.
I look up prices for the parts, knowing that I'd get a better deal if I bought them online. But I don't know enough about the specifics of the parts for my car to really do that, so I decided to bite the bullet and just let pep boys fix that stuff, despite the fact that I could get the parts for 30% less online.
The following Friday, I had to work late so didn't take my car in. The next morning, Saturday, I go to Pep Boys and the same service guy, Eddie, says he never said he was going to order the parts and that I never said I was coming back. I'm pissed, but maybe there was a miscommunication, so I let it go. He says he will order the parts and have them for me the following Friday.
During the week, I call a local VW service place and ask them about this stuff and the owner tells me he has never replaced "sway bars" on a VW less than 20 years old and doesn't think I should need to do that. That makes me suspicious, so I call Pep Boys and ask about my parts. Eddie says he's having trouble finding sway bars (something I found in about 10 mins online), but the CV boot would be there on Friday.
I go that Friday, 2 weeks after my oil change, to get the CV boot installed. This is when I find out that they aren't replacing the CV boot, they're replacing the ENTIRE axle. That was never explained to me. But anyway, they take my car back and about 30 mins later, they tell me that they have the wrong axle. Apparently, they bought the right one but the warehouse sent them the wrong one. I'm even more suspicious now, but he tells me that there's another store in the area that he can buy the axle from and have it the next day, for about $40 less (why that wasn't the part I got in the first place is a damn good question), but because it's not one of their affiliated stores I'd have to pay for it up front before he could order it. So I pay for it.
I come back 2 days later, on Sunday morning. Eddie isn't there but the axle is and another service guy (whose name escapes me) takes my car back. They fix the axle finally and I pay the amount I was quoted. Then the new service guy explains all the things they found wrong with the car. This is why I put "sway bars" in quotes earlier. The new guy explains that it's not the sway bars, but the strut and control rods on the front of the car that need to be replaced and it's the failing control rods that are wearing out my front tires.
Knowing what I do now, there is no way I'm taking it back to Pep Boys because the person I dealt with until the last minute was forgetful, inaccurate and not informed. And to put the cherry on top, I noticed a few days later that they didn't completely re-attach the skid plate on the front of the car, so the inside corners are hanging down, catching on the inside of the wheels when I turn sharply. All in all, never going to Pep Boys again.

Take my vehicle in to repair/replace belts and alternator. They started out with one price for labor $94.00. Mike became irate due to the various questions I was asking him about my vehicle. He then tells me, now you will pay $94.00 labor of putting alternator belt and another $120.00 to put alternator on. I live in Chicago, stuck in Lafayette, Indiana at Pep Boys. Total $452.00 and a whole lot of attitude.

DO NOT EVER let Pep Boys touch your vehicle for any reason! They will do whatever it takes to swindle you out of money... I went to get an oil change and tires rotated to then be told that I need new brake pads, rotors, and rear calipers. It was going to cost nearly $700 for parts and labor/warranty... I saved myself some money by just ordering the parts. While changing my brakes and calipers myself, I found that absolutely NOTHING was wrong with my pads or rotors... They were practically brand new; no wear and tear on them at all. The ONLY correct information Pep Boys told me was that my caliper(s) were leaking... also a lie. Only one caliper was leaking. You can see my frustration.
I proceeded to change both calipers just to be safe but after I bled the lines and tested everything, the caliper was STILL leaking just as much, if not more than it previously had been AND my brakes completely went out on me with that caliper leaking so much. I did the reasonable thing at that point and took my car to a TRUE and TRUSTWORTHY mechanic to find that the caliper was defective out of the box. Understanding that this is not entirely Pep Boys' fault as they had no idea that it would be defective, I called to order a replacement to only be told that I would have to make several trips up there so that they could verify that it was defective before even replacing the caliper which they would have to ORDER and might not get in for 3-5 business days!
As a full-time student and employee, being out a vehicle for a week isn't exactly an option for me. Not only did Pep Boys swindle me out of over $200 for parts, they have the WORST customer service skills I've ever witnessed and are NOT very knowledgeable about the parts in the first place. Do NOT trust anything the "mechanics" at Pep Boys tell you about your vehicle AT ALL!

Do Not Ever Let Pep Boys Work On Your Car! Consumers be aware! Pep Boys Are Not Honest. The air Filter you see that was just replace before this car was taken for a oil change. Pep Boys put in writing and told the customer that it had to be replaced as you can see it isn't dirty at all. The Oil drain plug was cross threaded and Pep Boys blamed it on the previous mechanic who did the last oil change I don't think so!! The reason when this happens the drain plug will not seal and the car will drip oil this was not the case. Look at the Hex on the bolt and see they used the wrong socket which was not like that before this car was brought to them. This will now cost this customer approx $500.00 To have the Oil Pan replaced. She was smart enough to get the car towed out of there last Sunday, 2/9/14.

I and my car was picked up on the 15 Freeway in Las Vegas and dropped off at the Pep Boy's at 7399 W Lake Mead Blvd, LV 89128 store at 17:32, 12/30/2013. The manager signed me up for Cooling System Eval for a charge of $38.49. Since it was 5:32 pm and they close at 8pm, they had time to check out the system. Shortly before closing, they told me I had major cooling system problems including defective hoses, radiator cap and radiator. I asked if they had checked the thermostat and they said no, so they had really had done nothing except fill the cooling system with water and coolant and said they would not check the thermostat, because that was only a "partial fix" and "they don't do partial fix work".
I was very upset they had not checked the thermostat and told them so. With a 22 mi ride back home, my only option was to buy some water at the market and limp back home on the surface roads, careful to stop when the temperature gauge neared the top limit and let it cool down. I could only drive 2 miles at a time with this caution. I didn't want to blow my cooling system on this small engine, so I arrived home at 3am using this stop and go method. Fortunately it worked and the repair were made the next day by simply replacing the Thermostat for $14. The hoses were good and the radiator & cap fine. I've been driving this car hard since as a Pizza Delivery Driver without over heating problems.
These Pet Boys guys, the workman and the managers don't know what they are doing. They are sorely uninformed about automobile repair. This was quite simple to check out and their charge was excessive and they solved nothing and were okay to send me on my way on a very difficult drive home. I will not use their service again, because they know very little about auto repair.

First off let start by saying everything was finally resolved. I purchased a battery yesterday, I was using a coupon that I printed from my PC. I am just learning about ordering online. I was receiving help from a rep. I thought the coupon was good only if you ordered online. I was informed that it was only good on in store purchased, which I was going to the store to get it. Then when I got there, I of course wanted it installed. I was told that the coupon was not able to be used in the service dept. I was quite upset. I did raise my voice, and he did bring my paperwork to the store cash register to be rung up. I feel that you really don't want us yo use your coupons. Why can't you make it easier for the consumer?

Pep Boys Clementon, NJ - They are thieves... I got 4 new tires, 4 brakes and front rotors.. spent a lot of money. Manager tells come in and he'll get me right in.. I was willing 2 make appt. So I go 5 hours later I'm still waiting. He didn't give me a choice on pads, puts the most expensive ones on my car.. which is 10 yrs old. HE says I have an oil leak and they need 2 put some dye in it.. I told him no because I have limited funds... He did it anyway, a charge of 35 bucks. Then tries to justify by saying he gave me 10 off with a coupon.. I didn't want it!!! I go to work and less than 10 hrs later one of the tires is flat... probably sealed wrong I was told. I CALL and the same manager tells me tomorrow he can fix it.. After I spent 1100 hundred dollars he couldn't talk 10 min to fix my tire. I will never never ever go to any Pep Boys again!!!!!

Sometime last year I took my 1990 Lexus LS400 to Pep Boys San Jose California for tire change and two of my rims were not the same after the service. I noticed this several months later while washing the car and when I complained to Pep Boys, they refused to listen. I just want car owners to be on their guard, as rims theft is on the rise.

I recently purchased two of Pep Boys' tires from their own brand called Definity. I got two Definity HP 800s and they are extremely horrible, they are very pathetic. It doesn't matter what road condition it is whether it is snow or dry pavement these tires are very unsafe and very dangerous! I've actually almost crashed multiple times directly as a result of these tires!!!!!!! I have tried to turn at safe speeds and the car started to skid straight towards the guardrail multiple times. Today I was getting on a on-ramp trying to get onto a highway and went to turn and the car wouldn't turn and started skidding straight towards the guardrail and it was Dry pavement!!!!!!!!
I'm writing this review to warn everybody Never to go to Pep Boys. Their brand of products are horrible and they are highly incompetent and very unprofessional. They take advantage of you!!!!!! A service job on your car that should take an hour will take 2 or 3 hours because they put your car on a lift and leave it there purposely because the longer its up there the more money they can charge you for labor. They also try to find every little thing possible that's wrong with your car so they can get more money out of you and usually the problems don't really need to be fixed.
I use to work at Pep Boys and working for them was great and I have no hard feelings but I needed to move on with my life and my career path but I know all the secrets and tricks they do to take advantage of you and what they do to get the most money out of you. I also know from the inside that everyday they had multiple customers come back saying they had the same problem as they did that Pep Boys was suppose to fix when they had it serviced for that problem and Pep Boys replaced unnecessary parts that didn't need to be, etc. but didn't actually fix the problem!

I took my wife's car to Pep Boys to repair a serious acceleration problem. She drives a 2005 Ford Taurus. She may be driving along at 20 miles per hour and the car may accelerate to 50 miles per hour. Sitting at a red light, the engine starts to rev. Pep Boys first worked on the car Nov 1, 2013 and today is Jan 24, 2014 and we took the vehicle back 4 times with the same results. They kept insisting that the problem was fixed. I finally called customer service and got a positive response. The service center was told to repair the vehicle or give me the full refund. This time the vehicle was in the shop for 14 days. On the drive home after being given assurance that the vehicle was fixed, the same problems surfaced. I kept my cool and patience as the service manager and I decided that our vehicle would be sent to a Ford dealership to be fixed. The next day I was told by Pep Boys that the vehicle had a diagnostic check at the Ford house with no problems found. On the way home, the same problems surfaced again. I have been calling Pep Boys all this week but the service manager is at lunch or with a customer and will call me in an hour or so which didn't happen. Most likely I will call a TV station here in Dallas to ask their consumer investigator to take a look at this Pep Boys.

I carried my car into pep boys for struts and my car has not been the same. When I first took it there, they put the struts in and forgot to put the mounts in so I had to come back at the following week and they put them on and after a test drive I heard a noise in the back. I explain that to Ricky who test drive the car, he said "bring the car back and we will fix that noise," after spending 6 hours the first visit and spending 5 hours the second time I couldn't take anymore agony there. Now I'm still driving with knocking in the front and already complain to Better business bureau about my issue, they could not help. The pep boys on tremont is horrible, stay away from there. I would like a refund for the work they did which is nothing. Angry consumer.

On November 29, 2013, I woke up to 2 flat tires on the driver's side of my 2011 Subaru Outback. Pep Boys is a carwash away from my house so it was suggested that I go there by a friend and that he would meet me there. The staff was given very clear instructions from the very beginning: (1) Replace the flat tires with the same kind that was on the car. (2) Balance the tires to which they said that they already do for free. No mention of a $12.00 fee. (3) Put the new tires on the back. And how much would all of this cost. The answer was $288.36. There was no mention of a cost to dispose of my old tires or a cost to balance 4 tires. They suspected and suggested that foul play was the reason for the flat tires so I said that I would make a Police report once they finished. Seem like everything went wrong that day. I didn't get my car until around 5:00 pm
When asked what was wrong with the 2 tires they couldn't tell me. I asked if they put the lock back in the car, I was told no it was in the back so the guy went and got it. I paid the bill and left. My wheel was shaking so bad I was scared to drive. It was too late to go back and I had had as much as I could take for one day. So after the Police report I went home. On December 2, 2013, I went back complaining about the shaking wheel. This is when I was informed that they only balanced the 2 new tires and that it would cost $12.00 if I wanted the other 2 balanced. I informed them that I had just paid Subaru $700.00 to get my car ready for the winter and that it was nothing wrong with it when I brought it to them but, 2 flat tires and if I had to take it back to Subaru I would ask them to pay the bill.
At this point I asked to speak to the manager ** who said they would balance them for free after hearing me go on about them saying they were going to balance the tires on November 29th. I came back the next morning for them to balance the tires. When I left the Pep Boys, my wheel was still shaking so I pulled in a shopping center and got out to look at the tires. That's when I noticed that I no longer had Bridgestones but some other brand of tire on my car. I really got upset then. My car was not fixed and I am missing 4 Bridgestone tires.
I made an appointment at Subaru and had to wait half the day to get the car looked at but Subaru said that they don't carry the brand of tire on my Outback. So I went back to Pep Boys. I called the complaint line and made a complaint and went back to Pep Boys at 4500 St Baranabas Rd., Marlow Heights, MD 20748. Immediately Mr. ** got on the defensive, before I could finish telling him that they took my Bridgestone tires. He said that I was hostile and all they could do was give me my $288.36 back.
A District manager called named James or Thomas ** but didn't leave a phone number, said he would call me back but didn't so I called him. He claims and the real District manager claims they looked at the cameras and saw nothing they shouldn't have but, my question is what happened to my Bridgestone tires. I called the complaints line again and stated even if they gave me back $288.36, they still get away with 2 Bridgestone tires because they are not on my car. I want 4 Bridgestone tires on my car. I have since filed with BBB and Pep Boys denied my claim but, I have a letter from Subaru stating that they don't carry the brand that is on my Outback and my brother and another friend who is willing to go to court and testify that I had 4 Bridgestones on my car. It's sad that with these many complaints (248) being filed against them, a business like Pep Boys is allowed to stay open and continue making money without being held accountable for their actions.

I went to Pep Boys in Orem, UT to purchase 4 brand new tires for my SUV. I went with Pep Boys due to their selling me with this rebate of Buy 3 tires & get one free with mail in rebate. The person who sold me, told me to enter my info online & it will take less than 1 week and they will process the rebate & mail it to me instantly FALSELY telling me that it takes up to 8 weeks. On the website, when you enter the rebate, it states it can take that long. So, I purchase the tires on 11/4/13, then go home to enter the rebate, and it won't allow me to until PEPBOYS enters the info, which can take 24 hrs or more.
FINALLY I DO so on 11/8, it allows me to. Then, here it is 12/18....NO REBATE??? WTH? So, I call the rebate center, the person tells me I will have it by the end of December....NO REBATE on 12/31. SO I CALL AGAIN!!!!!! The person tells me it will be up to another 8 WEEKS!!!!!!! I told him this is FALSE ADVERTISING! I feel that they ripped me off $118. The rebate was approved on 11/18. Has a card # listed, not showing sent. They said due to HIGH DEMAND that they are backed-up! DO NOT OFFER SOMETHING YOU CANT GIVE! I will never go to PEP BOYS again.
