Got my brakes serviced at this Midas shop a year ago. The total amount for the work was high around $400 ($180 front pads and labor, $20 wheel seal, $60 resurface rotors, $30 rear brake adjustment, $90 rotor hubs). Labor and parts charges were crazy but the convenience was worth it at the time.
A year later, after 13,000 miles the brakes started squeaking and the brake light came on. I think there is some major problem, because the brakes can't be worn so soon. Guess again. The brake pads needed to be replaced. I'm figuring since I have the lifetime warranty that Midas will replace the brakes and labor will be free. Wrong again. The pads are replaced for free, but I have to pay $100 labor for the 15-30 minute job. Even in Los Angeles that is outrageous for labor charges. Also, even though I got my rotors machined just a year ago they wanted me to replace one ($175) and machine the other ($45).

December 29, 2008, I brought my Mazda into Midas, for an oil change and asked to have my car checked completely for any mechanical problems it may have. The cost was $638.22.
On December 30, 2008, my car engine light went on and the motor was racing and it sounded like it was going to stall. This is the first time this happened with this vehicle. On December 31, 2008, 36 hours after leaving Midas and paying an additional $883.04 for repairs, I was extremely upset and felt I was taken advantage of. I have been a customer of this shop for two years. They did all the oil changes and every repair needed during this time. I take very good care of my car, I always do preventive maintenance since I bought the car new, and have the oil changed every 3000- 5000 miles. I contacted the Midas corporation on January 1, 2009, and informed them of my resent experience. On January 2, Daniel Krauss contacted me about my complaint. I informed Mr. Krauss in great detail about my concern in having to return to his shop the next day for more repairs and the high cost of the repairs and the parts. One example: ignition coil costs less then $90.00 Midas charged me $225.18 for the part. Mr. Krauss and I e-mailed each other and he said this happens, the vehicle had a different issue that was not found on the 29th. I did not have this issue with my car prior to the 29th it first occurred on the 30th after my repairs. Mr. Krauss said the cost of parts were fair mark up. I do not agree with this statement, I checked with Mazda and I was over charged as in my example above. I feel that this Midas shop did something to my car for it to need more repairs. I am a woman and I feel this shop took advantage of me.

The first time I took my car to Midas I could not drive it any further. The car barely made it off the freeway. I left my car there on a Sunday, after hours, and received a call on Tuesday about what needs to be done in order for it to run properly. I was quoted about $600, for new spark plugs, wires, plugs, rotators, and tune up. I said okay, and the car would be ready for me to pick up Thursday. I called ahead that morning, spoke with Scott Elam, and he said it was ready. My friend's dad drives me to get to Reno at 730am, and they tell me it is not ready once I get there, and they think I need a new distributor and mass air flow system. But they are not sure and the mechanics thinks I need to take it to a dealership to use their diagnostic system because, the mechanics said that they didn't have the proper system for my car to check it. I did not understand this problem. They didn't tell me not to come get my car that morning, so I drove there for no reason and missed an hour of work! Now they are quoting me $1,142.42 to have it fixed. Scott said, they were giving me a deal and they were actually losing money to fix my car. I said okay, and I just want it to run, meaning I don't want anything else replaced if I don't need it now. I asked, when will my car be fixed? Scott said they would call me. At this point I was worried that they didn't know what they were doing! I get another friend to drive me to Reno on 01.22.09 to get my car because, Scott said it is ready. On 01.05.09, I pay one payment on my debit card of $571.23, and the other payment of $571.24 will be charged later by Check. I signed a two payment plan agreement. I was given the keys to my car with full assurance from Scott that it is running fine. I start my car and it sounds odd, then I drive 50 meters and it dies! It was operating worse than when I brought it in. Scott tells me he does not know what the problem is and asks me if I thought about selling it. He said he thinks it's electrical, but he said that he just runs the business part at Midas, he's not a mechanic. I am very discouraged and I don't trust Scott or Midas at this point. I tell Scott not to charge me until it is fixed, whenever that will be, I was not sure. I make sure the payment is stopped and I call my bank to withhold both transactions. At this time I did not know when my car would be fixed or if it would be at all. I get a call two days later and they said they fixed it; the problem was a faulty part that they had replaced. I get an hour off work again, and my father drives me to Reno, for the third time. It is 730 am and Scott is not there, the mechanic said he is late and the mechanic was told to just give me my keys and take the car. I leave Midas with my car and it runs as it should, finally! I call Scott: to tell him that I stopped payment and I want a week to make sure my car runs, given that I did not have complete trust in them at this time. I tell Scott to call me and tell me when I should pay them after the first week. He never calls. I call the following week and he says he is looking into the payment process and will let me know. He never calls me! I get a call from my bank to pay for one payment from the check. I pay the 1st payment of $571.24, which is actually $591.24 because, the banked charged me for the stop payment process! In conclusion, after all the changes in Scott's story and 4 weeks later, I don't trust that my car needed the repairs they suggested, and I was given an original quote of $600 to have it fixed, but they change that quote two days later without telling me until I get there, thinking my car should be ready. Then on 12.24.08, Scott re-quotes me $500 dollars more! Scott's business conduct was NEGLIGENT,inconsiderate, and very questionable. I don't trust that I received honest service in a diligent or professional manner!

This January we expeeienced the most freightning episode you can imagine. NO BRAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!. My granddaughter is on life support & both my wife & I help my daughter with the 24/7 care. We both had our cars and went home around 9pm. I noticed my wife waving her arm frantically at me. She was driving home with NO BRAKES!!!!. she is lucky that the road back to our house was flat 99% of the way execpt the overpass......... Yep you guessed it NO BRAKES free wheeling to a very quick turn into the block then up the driveway slamming it into park jerking the car violenty. I looked at her and she was in tears. The ext morning I looked atthe car and started it thinking vacuum leak of great portions. No such luck, Had it flatbedded to the Dodge dealer & to all of our supprise the technician call me & the service rep over & pointed to the Master cyclinder cap. The seal looked like a flower so swollen. He & all other techs said WRONG FLUID. Why no brakes, all of the seals were destroyed by Wrong fluid into the system. They in their words, Melted and became mush rendering the system completely useless. they had to replace the ENTIRE BRAKE system anywhere the wrong fluid contacted a seal. Since then 4 days in the shop, a rental car & $2411.42 dollars later the car is fine but my wife is a pile of rags driving at night nevertheless daylight. I contacted the corporate office and they put me on hold as large ones due. Could you please contact me regarding this issue. Best Regards.

July of 2005 took my 1995 Bonneville in for service. It was around 5 pm and asked for a brake estimate. Returned to pick my car up at around 6:30 pm and was told my brakes was fine just needed rear pads, and the car could be driven fine for a while but would eventually need repair. Noticed while there one tech had come over and told the person in charge of the shop that they were having an air pressure issue from on of their compressors. Took my car to walmart to have the oil changed later that evening, and took a trip to Hays Kansas about 180 (one way) that Saturday, and returned home Sunday. While walking up to my car noticed there was a lug nut lying on the ground. Thought hum...someone is missing a lug nut. Went to lunch and returned home to notice there was 2 lug nuts missing on my car! took my hand and attempted to twist the lugs on other wheels to realize my lug nuts were all loose. Forgetting about I had took my car to Midas went to WalMart to raise hell. Manager was adimate that an oil change didn't involve removing the wheels, at which point I realized Midas had caused the problem. Called the Manager he apologized. Which is OK I guess if you figure I could have lost a rim driving to or fro hays. Two Weeks Had a clinking noise which I assumed was the muffler. Gave Midas another chance and took it in. Was told the muffler was good and all it needed was to have a bracket placed on and a part welded back to the car. I'm no mechanic however after about 10 min my car was ready. At the register the lady told me it would be $180. Was in a hurry and it didn't dawn on me that they did 10 min work required no parts and just charged me $180. Called back to talk to the manager and explained if they had charged me an hour labor it still wouldn't have come to $180. Manager again apologized. Now 4 years later I called Midas to have brake work done, surely they have gotten better, Wrong! Got an estimate for brakes was told I needed Rotors all the way around and pads for front and back, total job $700+. Took it to another shop where they allowed me to supply the parts, front rotors $38.99 each, rear $21.99 from auto zone, pads $25 front and $18.99 rear, labor cost $120. Total cost $290 including tax. Went to drive my car home and had a problem (more about this shop in another post). Took it to Midas for a diag. Midas said all the parts were fine however my rear passenger caliper was over torqued (don't know what that means) and the screw was stripped and the hole had to be re grooved, and 2 washers needed to be replaced to regain brake pressure in the system. Total bill $295. Midas didn't put one part on my car other than washers, asked why ticket was so much manager told me it took 2 hours to flush the brake system and replace the fluid. Midas have machines to do this, I dont believe they removed the brake line and let the fluid drain out using gravity. Manager said the bolt drilling on the rear caliper cost $120 to repair. Called Autozone and was told a whole new caliper would cost $48 including tax. My car was taken in at 5 pm on Friday, Midas closes at 6 pm. was called on sat at 10 am stating my car was ready. The manager said he started on my car on Friday, which isn't true as I drive past the shop on Friday around 5:30 and my car was still sitting in the lot. They opened at 8am on sat so no way they spend 2 hours draining fluid on my car given they called me at 10 am saying it was ready. So quick math $295/2, $147.50 an hour for labor (they put 2 washers on my car!). Unless those washers were platinum, their labor rate is higher than Mercedes Benz!

I purchased new tires at Midas in Florida prior to my move to Georgia. After only a couple of months, I had a slow leak in one. First it needed air about every 3 weeks, then every 2 weeks. After getting situated after move, I found the closest Midas shop in Douglasville, Ga. When I took my car there, they said they could not find a leak and told me to come back in a couple of days. I then called corporate office and spoke with someone who PROMISED he would be talking with the owner of the shop, took my telephone number and PROMISED I would hear back from him. Almost 2 weeks now, and I have not heard back. Nice way to treat a customer. And the tires were not cheap. Very expensive. So, all I can do now is warn everyone......DO NOT BUY TIRES AT MIDAS!!!!!

Here is the letter I wrote to them. I emailed it to them today. I will also be mailing a copy to the corporate office.
Midas Corporate: I went into the Midas on Dekalb Pike (King of Prussia, PA 19406) on Saturday January 17th 2009. I got there about Noon. My car was stalling and running rough. I barely got the car to the shop. I went in to the office. I was visibly upset due to being very scared trying to get my car there. The man at the front desk told me that he thought it sounded like a possible electrical issue. He wanted to run a diagnosis test on my car. Once that was complete, hed give me a call, to let me know what he found. The same man called me back about 15 minutes after I left the office. What he than tells me, leaves me shocked and crying. He tells me that I will have to replace my motor. That I have a tap and I will need to replace the engine. Now, I am a 30 year old woman that honestly, does not know much about cars. I know whats under my hood. I can jump a battery, change a tire, and even change my oil. And I just knew that was not the problem. I called my father, who does know a lot about cars. He said that it does not sound like an engine problem, that it could be a battery and/or alternator problem. He said I wouldve had a light come on, overheated, or seen smoke. Something. He advised me to get my car from the shop and have it towed to Pep Boys, a repair shop he goes to and trusts. I called AAA, to have them come to get my car. I return to Midas, where they still tell me that Ill have to pay a couple thousand dollars to have my engine repaired or replaced. And they dont even think it could be repaired. My only good sign was there is no metal in your oil?. A friend of mine was with me for the pick up and told them to not charge me for the diagnostic. Because he believed something was not right. The guy at the desk said fine. Tow truck arrives. (Even the tow truck guy said no way was it an engine problem.) We get to Pep Boys around 3pm. I explained exactly to Pep Boys what I did at Midas. They tell me that they will look at it, and call me when they find the problem. About 10 minutes later, they call me. They asked me again what Midas had said to me. The mechanic at Pep Boys than tells me that the shop was trying to rip me off. Pep Boys mechanic tells me that had your men even looked at my car, they would have seen that I had a leak from my battery. My battery had corrosion all over it. My only needed repair was a battery. It would cost me $125 for the diagnostic, the battery, and the labor. Everyone at Pep Boys was disgusted by Midass behavior that morning, but not shocked! How is it that your men did not even look at my car properly? I wasted an entire day, when your men couldve easily helped me and fixed my car in minutes. Was it that they saw a women walking in to their shop and saw dollar signs? I want an explanation. I want an apology. I want something for my troubles. I want a response to this letter. I am not only emailing this to you, I will be mailing it to the corporate office as well. I will also be sending this to Consumer Affairs. Your company can not be aloud to continue this behavior. People probably get ripped off daily by that shop. And that is a disgrace. Chrissy Muller 1306 Meadow Drive Blue Bell PA 19422 215-715-6799

On Saturday, 01/03/09, I called Midas to get a quote for a bulb replacement for my 2000 VW Beetle and an oil change. The bulb replacement for my passenger side headlight, with tax included, was 36.99; and the oil change was 19.99. I left my vehicle there while my daughter and I ran errands with my friend (Lisa had told me to come back by 5 to pick up my car). I called at 4:15 to see if the bulb had been replaced and the oil change completed and was then transferred to Corey who informed me that the headlights on a Beetle were quite tricky (something I already knew which was why I took the car to professionals instead of doing it myself as I had on my previous cars).

He then told me that the plastic case that held the headlight in had been broken during the repair and that I needed to go to the dealer on Monday to get a new part, bring it back to Midas and they would then repair it. They also stated the oil change had been done and I could come pick up my car. When I got to the shop, I informed them that I was not driving anywhere on Monday to pick up anything; and that I had brought my car in for a bulb replacement and oil change...nothing was broken until they got their hands on it.

At that time, Lisa informed me that "since it wasn't really our fault, and it wasn't really your fault, we are willing to go in half on the part with you". Not knowing how much half would be for the part (and simply not caring), I then informed her that nothing on my vehicle was broken when I brought it in...The bulb was out, that was all. Now my headlight piece is broken and there is a gaping hole where my headlight should be. From their tone and words used, I left with my vehicle under the impression that they fully expect me to pay for half of the part. Not only that, but I work Monday-Saturday and had taken the afternoon off on Saturday to get the BULB REPLACED and the OIL CHANGE ONLY...

Now I have to take time out of my schedule on Monday to take the car back to Midas. Also, my vehicle is now making a noise that it was not making on Saturday BEFORE I dropped my car off...hmmm. This particular Midas has been very problematic for several people I know and have caused me concern before, although at those times, they have been very apologetic and have made necessary repairs to fix any mishaps they have been responsible for. At any rate, when I go there on Monday, I will be picking up the headlight (that they kept), the part that they are getting, and I will be taking my car to Donio at the Midas on South Main in Salt Lake City...at least there is one employee that is there for the customers at Midas!!!

On 8-30-09 (Saturday) my muffler started to drag as I was driving to our local Mall. I pulled into a Midas Muffler shop to ask for help. They were busy so I was picked up and waited for the call on the estimate. I was called and the manager stated I needed a new muffler because of me dragging it and there was a hole. He stated that it was a stainless steel muffler which is very expensive (around $250.00) and he did not have one in stock so it was going to be a special order and it would have to be repaired the following Saturday. A few hours later I went to pick up my vehicle and he said that the muffler fell because a single bracket had broke and they hooked it back up so I could drive the vehicle until the new muffler came. He asked for a $100 deposit for the order. I was a little suspicious because usually anyplace I take my car to the attendant points out the problem, but my car was off the ramp and parked in the lot. I thought this was Midas Muffler why would they be deceitful, so I put the deposit on my credit car and off I drove. I noticed that the car was as quiet as if nothing was wrong. I then got very suspicious and had a friend check out the muffler. He stated that there was no hole in the muffler, just a shiny spot where I had dragged it the mile or two. It was now 5pm and I called to cancel the order and the place was closed. Of course it was Labor Day weekend and I was working out of town 250 miles away. So from my place at work on Tues Sept. 2 at 8:30 AM I called Midas and told him of my situation and that I had decided that it was best that I cancelled the unneeded muffler. He then refused to refund my deposit, stating a special order could not be cancelled. I was not given any policy or written statement saying this was not possible. My next step was to contact my credit card company to dispute the $100. After a short period of time Capital One did grant me the $100 credit. On December 2, 2009 I received notice from Capital One that the $100 was again in dispute from Midas. They state the charge of said amount was for the repair of the bracket and that was what I signed for. I have disputed that claim again stating the amount signed for was a deposit of an unneeded muffler and that no amount of money was asked for in the repair of the car. I assumed it was a quick fix so I could get around for a week until that $250 muffler arrived. Capital One did not believe me. They said since I could not prove my cancellation that the $100 was mine to pay. My theory is Midas was out to get my money no matter what. They have lied, cheated and stole money from me since the beginning.

I was having some problems with my car on the highways because it would shake extremely hard when I went over 50 mph. I contacted my caseworker from the Department of Human Services and she informed me that I could take my car in for an estimate on exactly what was wrong with my car and how much would it cost. Being that I am a female who doesn't know much about cars, I decided to take my car to Midas for the labor to be done because I heard of many people taking their car there and receiving satisfactory labor. Once they checked out my car, not only did I need struts, they stated that I needed a water pump also. They told me that it would affect my heat and I told them that my car's heat was working just fine. The worker stated that I needed to get it fixed now because it's almost winter and more things could be messed up. I agreed to have the water pump and struts fixed which totalled over $900. I went to pick my car up the next week and noticed that it was driving harder than when I brought the car in and it was making a noise that I've never heard before. I called back up to midas and they stated that it may be because of the new parts and that I should give it some time to allow the parts to "brake" in. Knowing nothing, I listen and paid for it later that week. My car stop and the reason being is that when they put on my water pump, they messed up my tension belt which they admitted to but stated that I would have to pay $400 to replace it. I was angry and we got into a bit of a discussion and the supervisor stated that they would fix it for $100 only when the state paid them the labor for my water and struts. I decided to contact an attorney because I felt that I should not have to pay for something they messed up.I didnt contact an attorney. I decided to give them another shot at fixing my car. Finally the state paid what they owed and stupidly I took my car back to them to fix my belt for $100 that I couldn't afford and had to borrow the $100. Midas told me that my car should be ready in 3-4 hrs. I called to see if my car was ready and they said that they messed up my motor and that they would replace it free of charge to me. The only thing I would have to pay is for the belt. I was red hot and just prayed and waited a week and a half for my car to be fixed right. During that time I spent too much on cabs and paying people to take me to work and my child to school. Long story short, I got my car back last week and noticed a leak but could not discover where it was coming from. Two days ago I tried to drive it and my steering wheel was extremely hard to turn. I couldn't get out of the driveway because I couldn't turn. A neighbor saw I was having problems and came to assist me. He checked my steering fluid and saw that I didnt have any. I got a ride to the store to buy some fluid, got home to put it in and it all within 15 mins was on the ground. My container is cracked and wont hold any steering fluid that is why I cant drive it. Well it starts, but it is extremely hard to even turn a corner. I called Midas this morning and they wanted me to bring it in after I told them I cant even drive my car. They sent two workers to come out and pick my car up at my home and supposely checked it out. I had to work 2nd/3rd shift and wont know until i call them this morning. My neighbor told me that the water pump in my car is old and that when they put the motor in my car (used) they kept that old water pump on it and basically received free money from the state! I am going to contact our attorney general because from now on, I feel I will always have problems with my "99" Pontiac Grand Am. I had it for almost a year and had no problems with it but the struts. I have lost money and time and I make it my personal agenda to inform others about my situation at hand and to not take their cars to Midas.

Here is the deal. I have gone to Midas twice for new brakes since 2002 and both times to replace all pads and resurface rotors: once at 42K miles in 2002, and once 62K miles in 2007. In 2007, a metal-on-metal noise (reason for the visit) did not go away after the work was complete. After one year and 12K miles, I grew tired of the noise and decided to have a look for myself. I found that the pads were well worn into the indicator with almost no pad left... but only on the right back side and the left front side. The other two were fine. So, I am clearly left to believe (after only 12K miles) that they only replaced two of the four sets and left the old pads on the non-replaced sets... but charged me for a full four. Needless to say, I am pretty upset about this, as there is no way that two alternate sides can wear so drastically different in 12K miles -- especially since 10K miles are highway miles.

First of all let me state that the owner of this Midas shop told me to do this; to go right ahead when I promised to put a grievance online wherever I could, contact their corporate offices (who probably really do not care about bad 'p.r.' as long as a franchise is in the black) and put a sign in my back window reading: Midas = Rip-Off, Ask Me Why.
Once springtime hits, I intend to picket in front of their operation, as well. I brought my car to this establishment find out why my car's service engine soon light was on intermittently. Other shops had been honest with me, and told me that they could not get any reading off of the vehicle, because either the computer was bad or the connection to the plug-in for the analyzer was inoperable. Neither could this Midas shop, but they were crafty enough to lie about it, and told me they could, but unlike other repair shops, did not willingly show me the reading their machine was producing. They had charged me three quarters of an hour's labor to remove two easily accesible screws holding the sensor to the firewall of the car, hook up the vacuum line and one connector, and screw it back on

On 10/31/08 my husband took our car to this shop, for an oil change. When they looked the car over they also told us we needed a new battery. So we got one. My husband always tells them please check the brakes plus the rotery. The said they did. When we got it home we noticed the next day that they had spilled battery fluid over the front of the car. Went back with it and showed them. The insurance agent came by said we could get it fixed. However today my husband looked at the brakes and rotery and they are completely worn down. We find it very strange that nobody said anything to us about this. My husband went over to the shop to talk to them but they got into an argument and he left. I can't believe how after one month we have to replace the brakes and cups now and if they would have done their job we would only have to replace the brakes.

Well I took the car into Midas to get the estimate and after keeping the car all afternoon and overnight, they got back to me and the estimate was for 375.00. He also informed me that the rear calipers and pads needed to be replace and it would be in the neighborhood of $700.00 Anyway, I declined and was charged $30.00 for the estimate. Oh, well, a waste of $30 but a good lesson learned: Don't ever go to Midas.

Once there I was asked to pay $20 for an inspection and then they told me that my Air suspension in the rear was damaged, if I fixed that, my problem would be solved. $701 later, 4 drive arounds later, 1 more adjustment another day, another shop, another adjustment, I still have the same problem. I believe that they misled me and told me to fix something that did not need to be fixed. The last adjustment they made left my rear end looking like a roadster, I have pictures.

I've taken my 1988 Mazda B2200 pick-up to Midas to get my brakes done because I am no longer able to do my own brakes due to illness. It was Jan.25,2001,Midas gave me an estimate for 1029.44,that was for complete brake system and 150.41 for to send rear end to machine shop to compress bearings to rear end and that it needed to be done, because the rear end was leaking fluids. So I agreed to do it because of the lifetime warranty. I was told then, that the only thing that it would cost me is 40.00 dollars plus tax to change the pads and shoes under lifetime warranty for labor and parts. That all other parts are not warranty so I agreed because they were putting all new parts. Two weeks after having all this done I take it back because I was hearing a noise from the right front wheel.they check it out and told me that one of the shims must have fallen out,so the replaced it and also told me that the rear end was leaking again that I need to get new bearings pressed on again.I said what! I just had this done two weeks ago.So they told me that they were sorry, and that I had to pay another 150.41 to get it done, because they don't warranty any outside work. I was shocked and told them don't worry about it because no way I was going to pay for this again, and left.About 3 months later I bring it back to get them to check break system and they told me it was fine I said ok, and left. About 4 months later my motor went out so my truck sat in driveway for about 4 years until I could afford to get a new motor that cost me 4,697.90 installed. That was done on 12-01-2005 and another 400.00 for a new carburetor, so I said I just about got a new truck with all this done including new gas tank and lines. So in June 2006 I've taken my truck back to Midas to check breaks they told me they were fine,to check back in 6 months I said alright. So in Jan.2007 went back to Midas to get breaks check again I was told they were ok.This time I could not understand why they would not change breaks,I thought maybe they were special break pads and shoes.Again I taken my truck back on Nov.14,2008 for them to check breaks this time I over heard them talking about my truck and one of them saying that if that was told to me there would have to honor that and by the expressions on there faces and hearing a little bit of there conversation I knew there were trying to charge me for something. And they came to me and said they have good news and bad news, told me the good news is that the back breaks were good they just need a little adjusting, but the front pads need to be changed, but they cannot because the front rotors needed to be changed because due to specks if they turn them they would not have enough medal on rotors for new pads and could not warrant the pads.I told them that they were trying to screw me on this .they said no, but I,m not that stupid.I use to do my own breaks and know that the rotors were not chewed up they can be turned at least two times before replacing them, and if they did put on new rotors they didn't have enough metal to began with. Also they were telling me that I have 70 something thousand breaking miles on this breaking system and that's why the rotors are bad. Well if that's the case please explain to me why they did not change the shoes in rear, what they are waiting for the shoes to tear up the drums in the rear of my truck so I would have to buy new drums too.If I were to change all this it would have cost me no more than 250.00 for parts only.Invoice no:109162 and of course they don't have any paper work on me at all that I even brought my truck back to them to check.

Any who, They said with everything pads machining rotors and adjusting drums was $360.00. This was not the issue. They went on to tell me the noise I heard while driving was due to a loose wheel barring which he asked did i want fixed I said no I have a great warrenty and I'll let the dealership deal with it since it should be covered under my warrenty. Ok so I take my car to the dealership yesterday (I've been busy) and they said there was no issue with the wheel barring and charged me $98.88. As a matter of fact he said my car was in great condidtion other than desperatly needing new brakes. This is another complaint. When I went to midas to get brakes I had over 40 thousand miles on my car over the course of dang near three years I get them changed and all of a sudden 7-8 months later I have 1 mm worth of pad left and my rotors are beyond turning specifications? What? Did they even change the brakes or what. Had the wheel barring actually been loose I would not have been charged anything but because they gave me a very wrong diagnosis I'm out a hundred bucks. I don't think this is very fair and I believe they were just trying to suck more money out of me because i had taken my car for a service that they themselves said was not actually needed.

Something awful happened to me and I think our community should be warned. I took my car to the Hanover Avenue location of Midas for inspection. The manager came in and told me that I needed in excess of $900.00 worth of work on my car. He also explained that there was a screw in one tire and staples in the other. I told him that I would replace the tires immediately if they could not be patched because I would be leaving there with my 7 month old daughter and husband for a 98 mile trip to NJ. No sooner than I left I heard an AWFUL noise coming from the front left of my car. Upon returning to the state a day later, I brought the car back. The manager told me that I would need an entire new axle which would cost an additional $200.00 for the part plus $85.00/hr for the work. I asked him if it was unsafe and looking at my infant told me I could drive on it as long as I needed to; the noise was just unattractive not unsafe. Yesterday on Rt 22 my car started shaking, the steering wheel started jerking back and forth and the noise became unbearable. I pulled off and drove to the nearest auto place, Jack Williams Tire and Auto. The man working, Rob Petrozza, took the cap of the rim of my front left tire and the lug nuts were almost completely unscrewed- he removed one with his fingers. His exact words, you could have been killed. He pulled my car in and torqued all the tires. His mechanic told me that three of the tires were unsafely loose, the noise was my tire almost coming off and that the other tire was so tight it was wearing my rotors. Not only was Kevin Vehovic, manager of Midas, lying about the axle, but he knowingly placed my family and me in immediate danger. Please let our community know this happened, if he was willing to scam a young woman with an infant, who knows who else has been or will be victimized by him. Call me for details, I've even got a written statement from Jack Williams stating what he found.

My truck had very low mileage of 30k+, I can not find a price online being sold for that high amount I was charged for the part.

This was in October 2004 and after reading the news report about Midas it could be more stores as I was told it is the same owner. I did call them afterwards and spoke to a woman who worked there, she also seemed surprised about my situation and cost.

Midas is dishonest and wanted to replace a part that wasnt broken. My truck was making a terrible knocking noise when I tried to brake, so I took it to midas, my first mistake. Well, they take it out to drive and assess the problem. They bring it up on the lift, and show me the problem, Im missing some bushings in the suspension.

They continue to tell me that I need a whole new front end, and quote me for shocks and struts. $1400 later, I say no, take it off, I just need the car to work, I dont care about a bumpy ride, just need to be safe. They take it off, $698.45, I need new ball joints, new bushings, and they slipped an alignment in there. Turns out they forgot to add in their generous 2 hour labor charge - another $186. Total $897.47

Thats completely unacceptable for me, so I decided to take it to a local mechanic down the street. Not only does he quote me for almost 1/3 LESS than what Midas wanted, he also saw that I needed new rotors and brakes, and replaced those too. Total paid $500.76

Now, my problem here aside from the obvious expensiveness of Midas, but they didnt even tell me my brakes needed to be done, so it was $897 to fix only half of what was wrong. Now, when I got it back from the local mechanic, he explains what he did, how he fixed it, and that what midas wanted to replace - The lower ball joint - wasnt broken, it was in great condition, just needed to be tightened Never use midas, they are dishonest and prey on people who dont know any better. Youre better off with the local guy who will do an honest job.

No damage done, except to my state of mind.

On 08/02/08 I took my 2001 VW Jetta to Midas because I had the check engine light on and the engine would shake when idle. I was greeted by Michael Jaskowiak, he said they were gonna run some tests, I left the car and went to work. Later I called several times and I spoke with Michael and he kept telling me he'll call me back in 5 minutes, hours later I would call back. This is not the issue, when he finally told me what was wrong with the vehicle, he gave me several reasons why and recommended about $1200 worth of repairs.

I told him that by no means I could afford that and asked him what would be extremelly important to get the car on the road safelly, otherwise I wouldn't repair it, he told me a tune up and install a new Oxygen sensor, this would take care of the problem(check engine light would go away and car would run ok), and later on I could come back to get the rest of the work done. So I agreed on $731.22 of repairs, $345.80 (highly inflated prize tag) for an Oxygen sensor, and $139.28 for sparkplugs (also highly inflated prize), $68.02 of Engine diagnosis plus $205.88 in labor costs.

When I picked up the car, it seemed fine (the problem was on and off, so this didn't mean the car was fixed), so I drove it home and the next day when I started it, it had the same problem, check engine light on and the engine shaking a bit while idle, SO i took the car back to Midas, this time I was greeted by Chris, and he told me he'd check the car and call me, when he called me later he said he had to replace the oxygen sensor they installed and that now I also need a different sensor it it would cost me around $400, on top of the $731 I already paid!

So, basically, I paid $731 for sparkplugs and an oxygen sensor, and now they want more money to fix it. I want my money back or the car fixed, and they won't do either unless I pay more. He told me I can call corporate if I'd like, which I will, good luck with that right? I lost $731.22 and my car just like before. Plus the stress to have to deal with this.

First visit: Was to have my brakes checked as they had been making a 'squeaking' sound when braking. Car was left with them from 10am-12pm. I was told that I would need new brake pads and that my disc needed to be machined. This was going to cost me approx, $500. I was okay with that and booked the car in 15 April 08 which was a Tuesday.

My family and I went through to Hamilton for the weekend and on our way back the brakes were vibrating when braking and the squeak had come back. I phone Midas and took the car back to them to re-checked. I told them that the 'squeak' had come back and that the brakes vibrated when braking. They informed me that they could not find anything wrong. So I thought okay we will see how things go. The next day I took my car to work and the noise was getting quite bad. When I got to work I was told by one of my work mates to take the car to the machanic he uses which is situated at the back of my work place.

He diagnoised that rattle from front suspension on braking. Found that front brake pad sticking to brake calipers, so he serviced both sides. This cost me $113.62 to get done. When I phoned Midas and told them what had happend. Sean said that I should have given them the opportunity to fix the problem. I told him I did. Then he said I did not explain the problem properly to his leading hand.

I also mentioned to him that my son who was working on a construction site along Alfriston Road, so my car speeding at some rediculious speed and it looked like he was really 'thrashing' the car. He said that he was testing the brakes. I told him that it is only fair that he should refund me the money $113.62 that I had to pay out to the other garage to get my fixed and safe. I told him I was going to complain and he said that this was fine. Then starting quoting me some rubbish about consumer rights or something.

Then to top things off, the car started to make a 'whinning sound' and the brakes were vibrating upon braking even worse. I took the car back to the new machanic and he found that the shudder from the front wheels was from the rotors which were worbed and right front wheel bearing worn. So he had to skim both disc rotors again. This had been put on the invoice from Madis as one of the jobs they did on my car. This repair cost me $408.31. I should have heeded the warnings from people that told me not to take my car to Midas, But I thought I would give them a benefit of a doubt.

I did everything they told me I needed and waited there for three hours for them to fix the brakes. $550 later, I drove off under the impression that my car was done for a while. Within a couple of days, my car started squealing when I broke, so I took it back in again. They said that sometimes new rotors have to be resurfaced and that after they were resurfaced, the squealing would stop. I got the car back five hours later; however, within a couple of days, my car was back to squealing.

I took it in again, only to find out that the wait would be a couple of hours before I could get in. I asked if I could make an appointment for the following week, they said they could fit me in. I returned a week later only to find that there was no record of my appointment. I waited another three hours to get my car back...can you guess? the squealing continued even after the third time.

I contacted the regional manager and told them I wanted my money back. He swore up and down that he would oversee the job himself and get me in and out in an hour. I agreed and took it in. Before he gave me my car, he said "you need to get new tires because there is a wobble on the front wheels that is caused by bad tires. Here is my card if you want a good deal..." He handed me a business card for a tire dealer in a nearby city.

I asked him what he was talking about because my tires were under a year old and there was no wobble before I brought it in. He said that it couldn't have been them because he had overseen everything. I drove off to an awful wobble that got horrendous as I drove down the freeway. I decided to go back, but at the last second drove to my mechanic across the street. He looked at the tread in the tires and said he didn't see a problem. He drove the car and noticed the wobble so he put it up and decided to take the tires off. He took them off by hand!

It turns out that not only had Midas not tightened the lug nuts, but they had also not surfaced the rust under the rotors, so they were sitting awkwardly on the wheel. I was told, immediately after contacting midas for my money back, that I would get a full refund...that was two months ago. driving on the freeway with lug nuts not tightened. fifteen plus hours of visits. $550 on four bad brake jobs

He said it was rare that a compressor would go out with mileage under 60,000. He said he thought it had too much Freon in it. David said he could flush out the system and recharge to see if it would hold. I then asked, if that didn't work, would he be willing to work with me for the recharge and then a new compressor and he said he would.

$131.05 later, I left the business with cold running air and I didn't have to have a new compressor. I was told earlier this morning (at another business), my compressor was running weak and that it needed to be replaced. I got one of those gut feelings I might be being had, so I called around and even went online to see what a new compressor would cost. A friend of mine told me I should call Midas to see what they had to say and I am glad I did.

David is an asset to this company. Besides being friendly, he was most helpful in answering questions. I can only hope the compressor holds out and that the recharge was truly all that was needed. I left Midas a happy customer and would like to say at this writing, I'd return again in the future. Thank you David.

There were fumes coming of the engine and the car didn't start after and needs to be towed to my house.

The Next day i took my car to a mechanic near my house. The mechanic said the water pump broke and caused the engine to overheat and in the process damaged the engine and has become unusable. The water pump broke as it was defective. After inspecting the wheels myself, I've come to realize that the rotors were never replaced as they had deep grooves all over them and the new pads were already scratched up badly. The cost of the rotors alone was $180.

I had it towed there, and I received a call saying the cables were all (3) frozen and needed replacement. They gave me an estimate of $436.00. I told them to go ahead; they said it would be done in the afternoon. At 7pm I got the car: total, $466.84. I e-mailed Midas and said I was not pleased with the price, and they called (mgr) and said it was standard rate for what they did. I told them I didn't think it was working properly, and they made an appt. for 9 am the next day. I arrived, there was no appt., and they said come back in a half hour and they'd get me in. I came back, and they said it will be another 20 mins. I left!

While not important to some, I missed my son's recital because the car wasn't ready as scheduled. I had to go back twice for an appt. that obviously wasn't scheduled like I was told. I feel $244.00 in labor is a bit much for replacing 3 parking brake cables.

Brought my '93 Mercury Villager in for replacement warranted muffler (purchased in '98). Was told by tech that I needed a pipe replaced that goes from the manifold to the catalytic converter. Problem is, he was pretty sure that he would damage the air intake line (cost unknown) and the catalytic converter (according to him, it was kinda rusty)--again at a cost unknown. The estimated cost? $508.92! I have a brother-in-law who is a mechanic, and could weld a small piece over the small hole, so I declined the 'additional part' and asked to just replace the forward muffler system--which was covered under the warranty. He refused and got the assistant manager, Leo.

Leo was irritated that I was not 'buying' the repair, and said that if I did not get the pipe replaced, that they only had to honor the warranty by giving me the replacement parts, and I'd have to have them installed elsewhere. I told him that all I wanted was the front muffler system and would be willing to completely pay for that portion out of pocket--no warranty needed. He absolutely refused! They insisted that I take the car elsewhere. I stayed in the bay with my car until they had taken it down off the lift and backed it out and parked it. I removed my paperwork from their clipboard, asked for the Assistant Manager;s name, and he said that all I needed was his first name, Leo. I then asked for the replacement parts, and now he refused that also! By the way, I have ALL the original paperwork.

I still need the muffler components replaced--and have arranged to have the front pipe repaired.

No big deal. Well, three weeks later, after daily phone calls to the shop to check the status of my car, I finally get it out of the shop. AT A RIDICULOUS PRICE OF $1500 I had to bring it back the next day because the lower seal was not properly installed. No charge for that. For the first three to four weeks, no problems. All of a sudden: no forward gears whatsoever. Mind you, I was still under their 90-Day Warranty. The vehicle had to be towed back to the shop. They tell me that they are not responsible for the car, that I would have to contact their regional office. I asked for the number and was told they don't have a regional office. So I asked for corporate's number, and they replied: "We don't have a corporate office."

I called up a buddy of mine to get the number online from his home computer. I called and the corporate office told me that in order for them to repair/replace the transmission I would have to come up with half of the cost. I tried contacting the BBB but to no luck. They said it would take them too long to get to it. I was overcharged, my warranty was basically ignored.

Brought my car back on the next business day. (Monday) because the car did not work on the following day. (Sunday). Manager states car doesn't work because of all the oil on the engine. His shop did the oil change which leaked out onto the engine & he blamed it on the previous mechanic stating he did not plug the seal which caused all the oil to leak. This is abviously his shop's fault but states it is not. He states it was another mechanic. If I had an oil leak then why didn't he notice when he changed my oil. If an oil leak was present from b4? Then it would leave oil patches all over my garage & property. And my previous mechanic did the job over a year ago. It doesn't take that long b4 someone notices there's a problem.

Two hours later, the manager called and told me that my car is ready and the price is about $200 less. I was very happy. When I picked up the car, the manager told me every thing necessary has been done and the car is ready for the winter. After I got the invoice I realized that the reason for the less charge was that they had calculated the cost based on Maxima but my car is Altima! The total cost is less but the muffler for my Altima is 75$ more than the one for Maxima!

It is the muffler that I have issues with. On Saturday 9/15/2007 I brought my car to the Midas mentioned above. Daniel gave me an estimate for the work that needed to be done. This was the end of day one. This midas is closed on Sunday so day two did not start until Monday 9/17. At the end of monday I checked on the status of my car and Daniel told me that they had trouble with their lift and it would be another 30 minutes. I had to be someplace so I asked if I could pick it up on Tuesday 9/18 to which Daniel said yes. I came in at 9am a full two hours after they opened and they were just hanging the muffler and Daniel again said it would be a few minutes. The inspection had not been done so I went to work because I did not have the time to wait. On tuesday evening I checked on my car again and it was not done. On wednesday morning 9/19 Orlando an employee at midas said the car was done. I paid the bill and picked up my car. As I drove off I noticed that the car was louder than it was with the bad muffler. I also felt vibritations comming up through the seat and the check engine light was on. I returned the car to Midas and told the technsions the problems I found. The took the car and started to work on it. When the car was finished for the second time the vibrations were gone and the check engin line was off. but the car was still louder thatn it was with the old muffler. I returned the car again and told the technicion of the problem. They kept the car for the rest of the day. On thursday 9/20 at 2pm I got the call from Daniel that the car was done at the cost of an additional $300 dollars. I test drove the car and the noise problem is still there. I finally got tired of this and paid my bill and left. The car is still not done but I cannot keep going on like this.

First I spent close to 1,500 dollars and 4 and 1/2 days trying to get the repair work done and it is still not right. They kept trying to do somethiing but for all of their efforts the car is still not right. I am very frustrated and very tired not to mention the inconvenience that this shop put me through and my family through. I wound up missing work on Wednesday because of this issue and then there are the lame excuses like the trouble that they had with a couple of stripped nuts and their need to use penetrating oil on a couple of bolts because of corrosion. I have lived in the NY NJ area most of my life and I have never once heard a mechanic complain of stripped nuts and corroded bolts. They are professionals and they have the tools to effectivly deal with these issues. To their credit they did pay for a overnight rental car on Tuesday because my wife was not going to be home and I had no transportation. I am not a mechanic but when I look at the new muffler it just does not look right. What can I do?

He then very angrily stated again that Midas does not do business with people with children and to take my business else where and then hung up on me. My husband who is deployed heard this and took his time to call long distance to Midas to confirm the lack of service for women with children. The man hung up on him as well. About 6 weeks ago I took my 1997 Honda Civic EX into Midas because the Check Engine Light? was on and my car had been having a problem picking up after stopping and getting into the correct gear.

Midas told me the transmission sensor needed replaced and the transmission fluid needed flushed. I asked Midas to make the necessary repairs and paid almost $500.00. It seemed to be running okay, but later that week the same problem started to occur and soon the check engine light came on again. I took the car back to Midas to get it checked again. After two days and my repeated calling, I was told that they could not find the problem and everything with the transmission sensor was fine. They finally said to take it to the Honda dealer as Midass machines could not locate the issue.

I went to Roush Honda and was told that the Transmission sensor? was bad, which was the very part that Midas had told me they had replaced and was running okay. I called Chris Bazell, the manager at Midas, and he told me, very impolitely, that Honda had not done enough testing. He asked me to come back in and he will show the Ohms rating on the transmission sensor. Im not a mechanic, so seeing the Ohms rating would mean nothing to me. As far as I was concerned, I paid $500 to Midas to have my car fixed, and they did not fix the problem, so I have to pay Honda to get it fixed again. I asked them to pay for my repair work at Honda or reimburse me for the work they did and he very rudely said they cannot. I asked if there was anyone else who I could contact, to which he said he was it.

Midas neither fixed my car, nor reimbursed the money I spent to get it properly fixed at Honda. I truly had a horrible customer experience and will never go to Midas again nor will recommend Midas to another person.

We spent almost $500, hours and hours of our time calling, dropping off, picking up our car...and still had to go to the Honda dealer to get the same part replaced, and had to pay for it all over again.

This was the second time I went to Midas for brake service. The first time I purchased the lifetime brakes and had no problem. When it came time to replace my brakes, I went back to Midas. They did the work and Charged me $200 and told me to drive easily for awhile. Which I did, however, from that time on, my brakes have been grinding and grabbing. I returned two weeks later and complained. They found the rotor had formed a groove in it since the installation, and they had to grind it down and replace the bads. They then told me, give it 200 miles for them to settle in. I had never had any brake mechanic tell me to wait 200 miles. I went to another Midas dealer (in Clinton Twp., MI) and got the same run around. I'm sorry I told him about the other dealer, before he looked at the brakes! He also told me to wait another 100-200 miles to let them settle down.

Now, its past the 90 day warranty and the brakes are still grinding and grabbing. I'm wondering what other damage is being done? I've contact the Midas and am waiting for a reponse. I am going to take it to a reputable service center and have them check everything out to make sure the car is safe to drive.

I went in to Midas becasue my brakes were squealing. Why Midas? Although they were more expensive, I assumed a Nationally known company with a reputation would be more beneficial in the safety of my family. After a "free" inspection, I was informed I needed new front pads, and my rotors re-worked. I expected this, but the surprise was; my reaer brakes didn't need to be replaced, and the price for the fronts pads was almost $400. I was surprised about the rear brakes, because I knew from my own inspection that they were very worn. Midas only used the parking brake cable measurement method to determine the condition of the rear brakes, which are drum brakes.

After exactly one week, my front brakes were squealing worse than when I brought the vehicle in. I took it back to Midas, and they re-worked the rotore (really, this time) and sent me on my way. I suspect they only used "stop-squeal" on the brakes, because a few days later, they began squealing again. After exactly two more weeks, I took the vehicle back, and was told my front pads would be replaced free of charge, and I would get "a break" on the labor for the back pads which were now squealing as well. So far...not impressed with Midas.

They called me with an estimate for all sorts of repairs that I really didnt think I needed, but I agreed. The bill came to $800.00. Three days later, while driving on a major highway with my daughter and a friend, my car felt like it had a flat tire. When we checked the tires the one on the passenger side rear was wobbling.

A nice passerby stopped, jacked my truck up and the whole wheel fell right off. All of the lug nuts were sheared. Apparently, the Midas mechanic did not tighten my lugs nuts when he put my tire back on after the brake job. The police came and said if I had gone one more mile the tire would have come off and my truck would have rolled over. He said he might have been coming to a different kind of emergency. After a $100.00 tow (Sunday night), I went to Midas on Monday and they put my tire back on. I filled out a form to get my $100 back for the tow and I still have not heard anything.

I told them to go ahead and change what they thought was rattling.

When I was ready to leave I said it will be nice to drive a quiet car ... and the response was, "Oh no the car is still rattling!" Feeling rather discourged I paid a LARGE bill of $100.93 and left. The car was shaking terribly. My heart was in my throat as I tried to turn around to get back to Midas. I cannot describe the shaking of my car and how bad it was. I had brought in a driveable car and now I could not drive it at all!

I said "What did you do to my car?" To which he said, "Nothing." They put the car back in the parking lot, the doors closed behind me and there I was STUCK. I had to phone a tow truck to get me to the dealership.

The next day the dealership discovered that the vacuum line to the transmission had been disconnected. At another cost of $89.70 it was replaced. I brought in a car for a vibration which was running great and ended up with an undriveable car needing a tow and another repair due to poor workmanship and an uncaring staff that closed the doors and left me there with no way of transportation.

The tow truck driver told me that oil was all over the bottom of my car, that Midas either didn't replace the oil filter or didn't put the cap back on, but most likely "blew a line," as the car had gone more than 60 miles before losing enought oil to prompt the warning.

I went in to Midas Muffler first thing MOnday morning. I was told that my oil had been very dirty, and that what had come out the bottom of the car had been that residue. The dip stick looked fine - he said that the new oil and "additive" had cleaned it. I watched them drain the remaining oil out of the engine and it was dark brown and the service person said it felt sticky. The oil had just been changed, and I commented that the oil looked very dirty.

The manager absolutely refused my request to take the filter with me "just in case" there was a problem. I took the car immediately to Transatlantic Motors where it is being looked at today. The owner tells it's a little problem, probably $50. We get it in on the rack where (out of my view) their ace mechanic checks it out. Now it's a BIG PROBLEM, estimate is $750 for parts/labor on my 4-year-old low-mileage pickup!

We look things over. Besides front brakes, which I did need, they tell me my rear brake drums are worn out and that BOTH rear brake cylinders were leaking. I show the mechanic how to use his inside caliper to measure the rear drums and we decide the rear brakes are OK. I feel they had probably given the rear wheel cylinders a squirt of brake fluid to generate the leaks.

Anyway, they do fix the brakes for over $400 and I get out of the place. Now the grand finale -- 6 months later I am selling the pickup and the buyer has it checked out by a competent garage. I took my car to Midas because of a squealing noise. Midas diagnosis was the front brakes needing replacing. They replaced the front brakes that I had done on 02/02/02, which had a lifetime warranty on the pads not the labor, or resurfing rotors. After the repairs my car was still making the squealing noise.

I took it back on 04/16/03 for the same problem. Now, the first time they did a complete brake inspection to find out the problem. I call the store ahead of time to inform them that I was bringing my vehicle back in. When I arrived I talk with Fred and informed him that my problem still existed. He stated that new brakes will make that sound until about 500 miles or until the brakes sets; I guess that is Midas lingo. After a brief discussion with Fred, his final words to me were, "What would you like for me to do?" I replied, "Look at my car and see where this noise is coming from." With an attitude he said, "Fine."

My car went for a test drive and the technician drove it into the bay and started inspecting the vehicle to see where the noise was coming from. Chi Chi was the tech's name. He shows me where the rear brakes were making the squealing noise. The wear indicator was grinding into the rotor and the left rear axle of the car. I got real upset first because I brought my car for the problem the first time and they said, it was fine except the front needed new brake pads and it was the rear brakes the whole time. Now, I'm wondering if my front brakes ever needed replacing. Second, I had to drive 45 miles to get it looked at since Louisville is the closest place to Fort Knox that had a Midas shop.

I paid $80 for the front brakes which I may not have needed, $116.38 for the rear brakes. Now, peep this; while putting back on the left side of the rear brakes Chi informed that I may need a new caliper. During the road test it noted that the caliper was bad, fine no problem. They put a new one on, the only problem is they ordered a loaded caliper from their parts vendor which took an hour plus to get there. The loaded caliper comes with everything including include brake pads; I already paid for brake pad anyway because my warranty is free replacement of brake pads. Thus, during the same day I was charged $174.33 this time for the bad caliper. I was there in that shop from 11:45 to 16:00 hrs. And you can see the money I spent for the problem.

Unknown how much of that expense could have been avoided if my problem was fixed the first time. I feel Midas owes me dearly.

As I was checking out the gentleman told me that it would be 21.00 for the "brake inspection". He then proceeded to tell me that it would have cost me $140.00 at the very least to turn my rotors and replace the pads. I then asked him what happened to the $89-$99 he quoted me over the phone and he denied it.

I have been a Midas customer since 1964. I took my 1987 Nissan 300ZX to the Midas shop for a routine muffler replacement (under "lifetime" warranty). I was told that a complete inspection would have to be performed, and an estimate of required repairs would be provided. In about fifteen minutes, the vehicle was put on the lift and I asked to see the underside. I was allowed to walk beneath the vehicle and while there, the technician advised that there was a crack in the exhaust manifold after which, he tapped on the pipe between the catalytic converter and the muffler with a flashlight, and advised that it would have to be replaced. The estimate was approximately $250.00.

I waited for the manager to discuss the tech's evaluation and was advised of the same analysis and told that they would not replace the muffler unless I had the pipe replaced as well. The technician advised that the car was just "old", and some noted oil on the underside of the motor was from "old age" and that the pipe had to be replaced even though there was no rust through, appeared perfectly sound, and the assessment was made with the end of a tapping flashlight. I felt as if there was an attempt to have me replace unnecessary parts for a significant cost before a "lifetime" warranty was honored.

The shop owner called me on the telephone to advise that my complaint to Midas had been referred to him, and he advised that policy prohibited honoring the warranty if other components were deemed necessary. He offered to "give" me the muffler with no continued warranty. I plan to take the vehicle to a dealership and have the exhaust system inspected and ask them to provide a written report which I intend to use in a possible lawsuit against Midas and this franchise.

Over the next 2 days I kept hearing a small sound in the left front (where the repair was done). Fortunately for me and for my life I decided to go back and let them look at it. I got about as far as Midas' fron door when I heard a huge grinding and tearing sound. I stopped in their parking lot and their mechanic looked at it. He said that the bolt that holds the transmission to the wheel was not there and that, quote, either their mechanic had failed to put it in or that it was put in so loose that it fell out or that it was put in so tight that it broke. I thought I was just going to let this go, but the whole story has just haunted me. I went on my trip (in the Rocky Mountains) and I was terrified the whole time. I have never been fearful of driving but that trip gave me anxiety attacks. I have reconsidered contacting Midas because I may be doing in injustice to any other of their customers who may have either a fatal accident or very serious injuries stemming from (a similar occurrence).

This store told me I needed $1500.00 worth of repairs on my vehicle -- 4 new struts, rear wheel bearings and two new tires. In addition to this, they informed me that they could not do an alignment of my vehicle after putting the struts and bearings on, because their machine was broken. What kind of quality repair is this? I took my vehicle to a dealership, who just informed me that my struts were good for another 30-40 thousand miles. The wheel bearings do need to be replaced. I will buy tires at an NTB.

    Damages:

This caused me emotional damage, since I am a woman, and feel they were trying to rob me because of that fact. In addition, how can someone not do a quality strut/bearing replacement without an alignment? They told me it was standard, but they couldn't do it. So they do things that aren't necessary, and don't do things that are required to test and validate the repair.

I took my car in for soft brakes. I told Jeff that sometimes I would be at a stop light and my brakes would go soft and I would have to pump them back up. I told him that I thought it might be hydraulic, maybe the master cylinder. After a few hours and much trouble removing my lug nuts (I have a 1968 Plymouth, apparently these "auto experts" weren't aware that old cars have reverse lug nuts) Jeff told me that all four of my drums were oversize, worn. I would need four new drums at approx $250.00 each equalling about $1000.00.

I asked again about the master cylinder, and he said "yeah we checked it out, it's fine." I picked up my car that day since I couldn't afford $1000.00 repair work at this point. When I picked it up I talked to him again about the problem, the costs, and the master cylinder. A week later I brought my car in to the Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep Dealer. Guess what! I needed a new master cylinder $180.00. I had asked Jeff specifically about the master cylinder three times.

    Damages:

Well, four a week (before I could get a second opinion) I thought I was totally screwed and didn't know where I would get $1000.00 to put into a $5000.00 vehicle. I even went through the for sale ads one day looking at buying a new car.

Our Isuzu Rodeo was making a raspy sound. We took it to the dealer to diagnose the problem. They confirmed that it was the muffler, but said we could save money by taking it to a muffler shop. We took the car to Midas, explained the noise and asked that they install a new muffler, which they quoted at $129. They called us hours later and said that the problem wasn't a muffler, but the manifold. Hesitantly, we ok'd the work, which they quoted at about $400.

When picking up the car, we were told that there was more labor than expected, so the total charges were $500, $50 parts and $450 labor. Not happy about the charges, but glad to have the problem fixed and done with. We picked up the car after hours to find that the car makes the same exact noise. It runs no better and now we doubt if the manifold even needed to be "fixed." We now have a vehicle in the same condition, charged for work that didn't fix our specific problem.

Midas refuses to honor their warranty on a muffler I bought in January 1999. The muffler has damaged baffles on the inside causing rattles. The warranty states, "You will not be charged for the new muffler, its clamps or the labor required to install them."

Midas supplied me with a written estimate charging for a tailpipe and labor. They are claiming the tail pipe needs replacing so therefore I should have to pay labor. However in the replacement of a muffler the tail pipe must be removed weather or not the tail pipe is replaced. In other words, there is no additional labor from replacing a tail pipe when replacing the muffler. The muffler is cut out and the old tail pipe is disgarded. I informed Midas I would pay for the tail pipe but no labor. This is after Midas attempted to charge me not only for the muffler, the clamps and labor.

They discarded the original estimate of $180.00. I said the muffler is covered so they changed it to $133. Then after much discussion they agreed to remove the clamps from the estimate along with some of the labor. However, I was still being charged $40 for labor. I then took the vehicle to another Midas franchise and they gave me an estimate of $132. This estimate included $75 in labor, $37 for tail pipe, and $18 in supplies. I inquired about the supplies and they said that included clamps and gas to cut the old one out. I then instructed them to return the vehicle to me and I left after receiving the estimate.

I plan on taking the car into the dealership and then entering a small claims court case against Midas. I feel I should only have to pay for the tail pipe and the gasket for the muffler. I disagree that the tailpip needs replaced. The muffler is damaged internally. It is common to replace a tail pipe when it can not be separated from the muffler due to corrosion. However, the muffler does not have large amounts of corrosion at the tail pipe muffler interface. The tail pipe in this case is probably salvageable.

In replacing my exhaust system on my 97 Jetta, first Midas put a muffler on that had insufficient baffles and was louder than a Camarro. When I protested Jeff insisted that the second muffler was the correct one. It in fact was a health hazard as it rested just under the front seat. Finally jeff said that he would meet me at the Volkswagon dealer (after threatening him with court because he refused to refund my money) to see what the problem was and that Midas would pay for the correct system.

Volkswagon said that it was the most ridiculous thing they had ever seen. Jeff was embarrassed and again said to order the correct system and that Midas would pay for it. By then i had lost 3 days work. By the time the parts came in Jeff no longer worked at Midas. The new manager was very nasty and only refunded the $191 for the original Midas system and gave me a very difficult time stating that that was the correct system. I told him that I wasn't a mechanic but I did know that my exhaust does not exit the side of my car. He finally gave me my money and the money for the pipe that they had ruined trying to cob something together.

I went into Midas to have my brakes replaced at the end of April, beginning of May of 2000. The mechanic replaced the brakes, the rotors and pads. About two weeks later I drove my car to Milwaukee. On the way back, the car started shaking and making noises. When I reached the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, my front left wheel detached from my car at highway speed and bounced across the lanes into incoming traffic.

I veered my car off to the side, trying to control the car that now did not have a front wheel. My car stopped inches from a metal guardrail. As I tried to fix the tire, a good samaritian stopped to help me. It was determined the lugnuts were missing and I would need a flat bed tow truck, which I ended up waiting two hours for on the side of the highway, alone, a female and at night.

I had the car towed to the first Midas I knew of in Evanston (my previous home) and left a note for the managers to call me. They in turn had the vehicle towed back to the Western location. I was called by the manager who apologized profusely saying they would handle all costs related to the damage because it was the mechanic's fault for not putting the tires back on correctly. So, they promised to put the tire back on and have the body work done (damage had occured to the fender when the wheel flew off).

I went to pick up my car and they didn't help me back it out of a tight spot wedged between two cars and a guardrail. And guess what happened. They all stood there and watched when they should have backed the car out for me. Consquently, the guardrail caught on my bumper and the bumper fell off. I had to get that fixed now too. After I picked up my car, weeks went by and the insurance company they promised to have call me, didn't. I kept calling the manager at least twice a week.

Not until I got my father involved and he called a regional manager, did something happen. I was told that I was supposed to have an estimate done (was not originally told this). I had the estimate done and as I dropped it off one of the employees told me that, "I didn't have to make so much trouble about this all and I shouldn't have involved my father." Basically threatening me and trying to intimidate me. I did receive the check in the amount of the estimate and have had the work done.

Everyone I spoke to said I should have sued them for endangering my life. If anything this mechanic should have been reprimended for his careless work. The fear I had waiting on the side of the road, yelled at by the towman for having kept my motor on ( in case someone came up to my car, I didn't want it to appear I wasn't paying attention) and paying out of my own pocket for the AAA towing charges.

I didn't charge Midas, because, yes, they did intimidate me and I don't want to ever deal with them again. I am a young, independent woman and I guess for the emotional impact I would have to say it upset me that I was someone seen as a non-threat to this company and picked on through intimidation. All I wanted was my car fixed for something that was THEIR fault and they acted like I inconvienced them and had already filed some sort of suit, which I probably should have.

Wrong-sized tires were installed on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. That destroyed my transmission. They paid for the damages and replaced the tires with "correct" size tires (this is what they told me). I had no way to tell otherwise. I just had a flat tire and when I went to put in my spare tire, it looked bigger than the rest of the tires. Also the flat tire happens to be a defective tire. Now the General Manager of Midas at Peabody MA refuses to look at my Jeep.

I took my car in for a replacement muffler, which is under lifetime warranty by Midas Muffler. I also asked them to check my brakes as the car had been sitting for a while. Their total on the estimate was $1,407.51. I told them no thanks but please replace the muffler that was under warranty.

I was told my car was unsafe and they would not install my replacement muffler. Just because I didn't choose to have them do the repairs with their exorbitant prices, they were not going to honor my warranty. I'm not allowed to get my brakes fixed somewhere else? Just what does a lifetime warranty mean to them?

I told the mechanic that evidently this "lifetime warranty" means absolutely nothing if they can dictate to me who will do the repairs and that I have to have my brakes fixed before I can get a muffler installed. It took 3 hours to get an estimate and I missed a half a day of work to accomplish absolutely nothing.

I took my car in to have a new muffler installed. I ordered the one-year warranted muffler as I had a 88 model car. The price quoted me was $29.95 which was o.k. I was called at work later and the manager told me that the exhust pipe in front of the muffler was in such bad shape that he was afraid to install a muffler onto it and also that the muffler had "two or three patches on it'.

I have owned this car for several years and it is a two-owner car and I know the person who owned before me. It had 50,000 miles on it when I bought it from him, who had purchased it brand new. There were no "patches' on the muffler ever and the exhust pipe had caked mud on it from the dirt road I live on. The rear exhust pipe was all right as it had been replaced by Midas at this same address about three years before.

I was told by the manager thathe could replace the pipe and muffler for $119.99. After I told him not to do anything that I would come and pick it up he then told me that, well he could do it for $89.99. Since the only thing that had ever been done to the exhust system on this car was the back exhust I feel like I was being ripped off. If he had not mentioned "patches on the muffler" I might have believed him.

They can flush out the old fluid and replace it with new and change the filter. I gave Greg permission to do the trans sinse the vehicle was already there.

When I returned to pick up my vehicle the manager, Greg, asked me how was the truck was shifting when I brought it in. I stated the vehicle was shifting excellent and the truck was brought there for exhaust work not transmission problems, the trans work was preventive mantanice.

Greg stated that after they did the transmission work the truck was not shifting right so I drove it and it was slipping very badly. When I returned to Midas Greg stated he would like to keep the vehicle another day, he wanted to make sure the service tech did not put the wrong filter in. Greg stated he would not want to put a new transmission in my truck.

I went ahead and left it overnight so they could correct the problem. I called Greg the next day and he told me the service tech placed the gasket on wrong and the vehicle was working fine. I returned to pick up my truck. I took it for a test drive and found the shifting problem was not corrected. When I spoke to John in Greg's absence he informed me the could not figure out what the problem was he also stated that nobody test-drove the vehicle before the transmission work was done.

He told me that they would need the vehicle one more day the problem needed to be resolved. So I left it for another day. I called Greg the next day he told me the problem was fixed and the truck was shifting good. I returned to pick up my vehicle. Greg told me it slipped a little but the last time they drove it, it was fine.

After three days of no answers I paid the bill and asked for a discount he gave me $45.00 off. The vehicle started slipping two days later. I have had two transmission houses look at my vehicle and have been quoted between $1800.00 to $2300.00 dollers to fix the problem. Both places stated the procedure that Midas uses is detrimental to transmissions.

Robert should sue Midas in Small Claims Court, assuming he can get a couple of mechanics from the other garages to testify as expert witnesses on his behalf.

Big O tires really messed my brakes up. They broke the rotors. After going back several times they replaced the rotors but the brakes still didn't seem quite right. I took my car, a 1991 Ford Festiva to Midas. The machanic took a look at the brakes and told me the rotors were put on backwards. I explained what a hard time I was having with my brakes. He advised me to get lifetime brake shoes. He told me that whenever they needed to be changed there would be no charge for the shoes. Having very little money I decided it would be worth it, even though I would have to sacrifice a lot of other things.

So Midas fixed the brakes and life was wonderful. About a year and a half after that the brakes were giving me trouble again. No problem -- into Midas I went and they brought my name up on the computer and fixed my brakes. This April I went to Midas and told them I needed my brakes looked at. I told them I had a lifetime warranty. The man said I would have to produce the paper that stated that. I told him that it should be in the computer.

He told me that they dump all the files after two years so if I didn't have the paper I was out of luck. Now I can't afford to buy new brake shoes and here's a company that turned on their own word.

I can't afford to get my car inspected because I know theres something wrong with the brakes. I'm scared to death that the brakes will fail and I have no other form of transportation.

I went to Midas in Ft. Wayne to have my 1990 blue Toyota 4-Runner worked on. I had front brake pads put on and the rotors turned and the brakes were cleaned inspected and adjusted. They are supposed to be the break experts. They had to send my rotors to a machine shop to have them turned. I told them I had a rear anti-lock brake light that was on. They supposedly fixed everything and all brake parts had been inspected.

The only thing that was not fixed was the anti-lock brake light. They told me I had to take it to a Toyota dealership to get it fixed. So I did. Evans Toyota Dealership fixed the anti-lock brake part and they inspected the work done on the front brakes. Their mechanic found "front caliper pins were wired in with mechanic's wire" So I had the dealership fix it because if these pins were to fall out my brake pads would fall off. So I did not want to take it back to Midas to have it fixed because on the way over my brake pads could have fallen off if that wire came out. The dealership charged me $53.64 to fix the problem.

I went to Midas today to get a refund for the work the dealership did ($53.64) and any charge of inspection done on the pads because they were paid to inspect everything and fix it. The manager at Midas told me that there is a law that prevents customers from going to another place and having work done to a vehicle and trying to get a refund. He said that I should have brought it to them to fix it. I did not want to bring it to them to fix if this is the kind of work that they do. Plus if my front brakes failed because of that then I could have been in an accident. I even showed them the billing of the work that Evans Toyota did and they would no believe me they said they don't even have mechanics wire. How do I know this?

Fortunately the tech at Midas put the old part back on incorrectly which caused the car to break down and that led to the discovery of several old parts that were listed as new on the bill.

This is a matter that will require more than myself going to Midas and asking to be refunded for the total cost of the Major Tune-up, the total cost of all of my towing fees, as well as the total cost for the repair to the vehicle. There was also another mechanic who also determined the same problem.
