This the worst Midas I have ever been to. I bought my car to Midas on February 27th 2015 because my check engine light was on. I was told by **, that my car would need a tune up along with valve cover gasket and an EGR valve. In total I paid 787.00. The very next day on the 28th, my car would not start. That was on a Sunday so they were closed. The following Monday, Midas had my car towed back to their location. Midas had my car for 45 days... yes forty five days without figuring out why it would not start up. Finally on April 14th I decided to pick it up. This was after they had it towed one more time to their "Master Mechanic". When I picked it up the 14th of April it started. But the next day it wouldn't start anymore.
When I asked corporate for a refund or if they would fix it for free, I was told no because they're not sure what was done to it after. I hope and pray no one ever brings there car to this location. Run, go somewhere else and save a lot of heartache and pain. Sad part is my car still isn't working - the check engine light is still on and it still starts sometimes and sometimes it won't start and when my car does start, it sounds like crap. Thanks a lot Midas!!

Midas Mechanic backed my car out of garage excessively fast and without looking and crashed my car into another person's car who was dropping off a passenger in front of the store. Manager not only charged me for the oil change but refuses to provide insurance information. My husband spoke to the alleged owner and he too refuses to provide CGL policy information. Now waiting to hear back from corporate office.

I brought my 2006 Lexus RX330 I to have the tires changed, brakes and AC serviced. The diagnostic on my AC indicated that the evaporator core was the cause of the problem. Due to the length of the job, an appointment for another day was scheduled. After beginning service on the schedule day, I was contacted by ** of the Irving, TX Midas and told that the O rings were the source of the leaks and not the evaporator core. While driving my vehicle to work that afternoon from the Midas location, I could hear and smell the freon leaking. I brought the vehicle back in where a diagnostic was again performed and found to be the evaporator core after all. Another appointment was scheduled to replace the evaporator core.
After having the core replaced, I was told to let the AC sit for a day without being used. The next day I attempted to use the AC and it again did not work. Brought the vehicle back in again and was told I had to come back the next day so that they could reprogram the AC. Returned a 7th time and AC was reprogrammed. I returned home to Louisiana and had issues while in route with the AC. 3 trips to the Midas location on Sherwood Forest in Baton Rouge yielded no results. I finally brought the vehicle to Lexus and was told that the evaporator core was installed incorrectly and would have to be redone completely.
This is where the real frustration began. I placed several calls to the Midas corporate number and was told I would receive a callback within 24 hours. Not one return call was ever received. I was finally given a number for a different consumer department in Florida where I was spoken to like I was the problem, not the inconvenienced customer. I was again told several times I would be contacted with a resolution and to date, have received no return calls.

After researching, I found a customer reviews were somewhat positive at a time periods. Midas. I went in to Midas and they told me that they have a guarantee and a brake jobs for at least one year, a full warranty. They quoted me over 2000 dollars on a full brake job back and front. Even though the price was considerably higher, 500 more, I went with them because they were a national company. I never read the small print, I believed the salesman. I pick my car up a day later and went my way.
About 3 and a half months later my brakes begin to fall apart. My front wheels were causing burning smell insuring around the wheel covers. I went back to my desk and they said it wasn't covered but I will have to 800 more dollars to fix the front brakes, air bed. Only thing that was covered was the brake pads which 18.00 dollars a piece. Of course I was I raped after spending 2000 months ago. Took my daughter 1997 Explorer to Midas for an front brake inspection last Saturday. The manager called me into the shop and to replace the rotors, pads and hardware would be $690.00!!! I almost passed out. I said put it back together. Went to well-known local shop, got better rotors, ceramic pads, and hardware out the door for $340.00 which is right given the price of superior rotors and ceramic pads cost. Please do not go to Midas. Check your local shop and keep your money in the city you live in.

I had brand new rear brakes put on my car in 07/05/14. By April 2015, they fall off in my mechanic's hands. He replaced them. The Midas store who originally put on the brakes, Hermitage, TN is closed. I went to another Midas location, Murfreesboro Pk, Nashville, TN to get an oil change and they noted on my invoice that I had new brakes. They gave me the number for corporate. I call corporate and spoke with one person who asked for original invoice and invoice from who replaced the brakes to reimburse me. I faxed the information.
I call back the next day and she is not there and neither is the fax. My name in the system is entered incorrectly (luckily I had ref. number). The next person tells me they are only going to reimburse me for the original brakes and not the new ones I had put on. So, basically I get something told to me differently because the first person I spoke to is out. They should honor what their first rep. told me. The customer service at the corporate office is terrible!

I've sent an email to what I believe is the Midas corporate email. I've just experienced the worst customer service in my life. The gentleman that I was dealing with, his name is ** out of your Franklin Park IL location. I was refused service because the manager thought I was trying to promote my business. I work for Lizzy Lift. It's a rental company that rents contractors equipment. I don't work for your competitors. I understand the business industry very well. The manager was really disrespectful. He yelled at his mechanic, "Get that car out of here!" That's a bad way of doing business. I will never step foot into another Midas in general.
I felt embarrassed and humiliated by this manager in front of other customers. I personally think he thought I was going to overreact in a disrespectful way but I kept my composure and at the end of the day, that's wrongful business. No business owner/manager should act that way. They lost a future customer. I feel like that's discrimination. I was a paying customer that wanted everything done to my car and he just refused my service. Keep in mind I'm a disabled individual, just trying to receive good service.

I'm a certified automotive technician with over 25 years experience. I worked 2 months at Midas and saw first-hand a different model of auto repair from independent shops. The management system is very close in all the chain stores. In the first place, consumer greed causes a lot of problems. Brake pads don't last a lifetime, so why let that factor into your thinking? When you return, you'll be required to machine your rotors, for which you will be charged. After two or three cuttings, you'll need to replace them, for which you will pay. Often, the chain location will require new hardware, for which you'll pay. There is no free lunch, and watching people expect it is very frustrating.
The parts are very cheap in quality. As an auto shop owner, I try to give my customers the choice between a dealer part and aftermarket. Chain stores are supplied with primarily China-made parts. If they have to buy it out, I know the Midas stores I worked billed the part at 300% mark-up. These chain stores have high turnover. They hire young guys, which is great to give them experience, but too often there aren't enough older hands to give advice. Also, each location has monthly financial goals published a year in advance. If the manager can't make goal, they will assign extra training, demote, or fire him.
The same pressure is applied to technicians--if you aren't producing enough revenue everyday, Midas will cut your hourly pay. So then it becomes a choice between putting food on your table or billing the customer for calipers they don't need. Its a terrible business model and no one should support it. Bottom line, don't go to a chain auto store for anything other than tires. For the rest, find an independent shop that you can trust and go there faithfully.

Prior to the work I told them not to put the lift on the frame of my van. I turn my head, they put my van on the left - next thing you know they're crushing my quarter panels underneath. Then PATRICK said which is the owner - we can't be responsible for that! I couldn't believe his response! So I stopped going there. Thought I'd give them another chance. I bring them my new car which in the end it cost me an arm and a leg - they know nothing about Japanese cars. Bring it to Spinelli Honda, have a clutch job done - $2000 cost me.
I recommend anybody need something done, do not go to this location. Furthermore the owner. I called the guy. I had broken plastic panels in my 2004 Acura. I told her he was responsible to fix it. I took it back to Midas and they sprayed a dry silicone lube over the tops of both struts. A week later it still squeaks and they told me to live with. My girlfriend went into the Midas shop in San Leandro Cal, on East 14th avenue, she needed a tire repair and oil change. The manager repeatedly attempted to sell her a new tire, the tire had a nail in it, the head of the nail had worn off. The manager tried to say the tire was too old to repair, (two year old tires) the valve stem was bad so she needed a new tire, the tread was low, new tire needed. The tread is better than 60%, the tires are still under manufacturer's warranty.
The manager was overheard saying "she was a woman who didn't know what she was talking about, sell her a tire." She insisted the tire be repaired, the car was on the rack with the tire off, they tried to sell her a new tire or the car would not leave the shop. Ultimately the tire was repaired, the oil change was completed and she left. She is away from home helping a friend, I was not there. If I had been there the outcome would have included a written apology. I am filing a formal complaint with the Midas Corporation also.

Vehicle was towed in on 2/20/15, part ordered on 02/23/15. Part delayed due to weather in the north, part received and car repaired on or about 3/5/15. While in contact with the owner regarding update on vehicle he quoted the part at different prices of the part as $147.00 on one day and then again at $130.00 on another day. When I contacted the place where the part was ordered they charged Midas $80.00. Midas initially charged me $173.89 for the part. After, constant debating the owner then acted like he was doing me a favor by reducing $73.00. He overcharged for the part, refused a valid coupon and has many other unethical business practices.
I have contacted Midas's corporate office and received a ticket number. Me contacting them did no good as they only emailed me that the store owner would be in contact me regarding my ticket number. I responded to the email asking that I be contacted by someone other than the store as the problem has not been successfully resolved with the management. I have not heard back from anyone regarding this issue to date.

We did find an acceptable resolution that was "fair enough". One stipulation was that we would never return to this Midas store ever again. I love this part because it would have been a cold day in hell, if you know what I mean. Also noteworthy is the corporate interaction that seemed fairly good initially via Twitter and then just evaporated. Overall take away is that Midas will never again be a vendor for me.

We have a 120K mile Mazda Millenia. I do not remember have any oil drip issue. Had catastrophic oil leak and took to Midas. 2 days later we picked up car. Immediately noticed next morning that we had new oil stains on garage floor. Initially were told it was a gravity issue and not to worry. Car kept leaving new oil.2 inspections later they confirm that this is a completely new oil leak and that they could not have been expected to have notice it because of the severity of the first leak. New estimate was unaffordable.
Owner took strong stance of "I will not work for free", used bad language, offered a $100 discount with 5 day validity after which "I will never touch this car again". Contacted Midas through Twitter. After back and forth their response was that they would not comment any further since the owner had closed the file and that was that. My wife called customer service and found the CSR to be completely useless and user-unfriendly to the max. We do not plan to accept this and will fight!

Just had to vent and get this out of my system. Arriving in Bradenton on Feb 7, 2015, I found I had a car problem when arriving at condo. After calling AAA, I was advised Midas would be a decent place to take car and also close. After having car towed there, a mechanic checked it out. Was told alternator was shot, and needed belt also. After checking his comp to order one, he said "OUCH!" Replacement rebuilt alternator he said was $348.00. The cheapest he could find. Said with labor, best he could do was $525.00 for alternator and belt. I was stranded, and had no choice but to fix.
I did google search for alternators for my Hyundai Elantra, and ranged from $75.00 to $150.00 everywhere. I was so mad, had some very bad thoughts of what I wanted to do! I feel I was totally ripped off, and would not recommend Midas even for FREE OIL CHANGE! Since I was an out of stater, I feel I was totally scammed and ripped off. Please read this, and act on it. I do not have the order number now, since I am now home back in Pittsburgh from vacation, and paper work is in car in Florida! Thanks.

Took my CRV for an inspection at my nearest Honda dealership. Learned I needed the outer tie rod ends done, among a couple of other things. So I shopped around for cheaper prices and came across Midas in Hoover, AL. Took my 2000 CRV to have the radiator and outer tie rod ends replaced/repaired and an alignment done on January 29, 2015. A week ago or so I noticed something was off with the ride of my vehicle. It would pull and had a slipping feel when turning and braking and just driving in general. It worsened and I felt I shouldn’t be driving it.
I started thinking I needed to take it back to Midas because something wasn’t right with the steering and suspension (which they’d repaired). On February 23, 2015, I cranked the car up to leave work and the steering wheel loosened and turned far right on its own. Called AAA to have my baby towed. The AAA guy instantly diagnosed it and said the tie rod wasn’t done right. The pin wasn’t inserted in the tie rod end. We found the bolt that came off in the parking lot.
All three AAA guys diagnosed the problem and confirmed about Midas improperly installing the outer tie rod ends. One even said that could be a lawsuit and Midas would eat the cost. Had I drove home, that could have been my life on the road. My baby was towed home on a flatbed and then towed straight to Midas the next morning on February 24, 2015. I was not confident in Midas working on my CRV again. Especially since they didn’t do the job right the first time and it had to be done again. And on top of that, the same technician from the first time ended up working on my car this time around. They apologized and claimed the part was defective. I seriously doubt that. This was completely their fault. Point blank.
And to top it all off, that same technician (initials TT, according to my invoice, I believe) that worked on my car both times and drove it out afterwards, stole $20 from my ashtray compartment. He reached down and picked something up off the floor and got out of my car while putting something in his pocket. We caught it before leaving and went back to confront the guy, a short white male that looked to be in his 30s maybe; thick southern drawl. They compensated my stolen possession with the exact money he stole from my vehicle -- minutes before. We made a little scene about it.
It’s the principle of the matter. I usually take my stuff out of my car when having it worked on or having it in the care of someone else. But I failed to completely take all my significant possessions out like my freakin’ gas money left in the ashtray. Another technician informed us that that wasn’t the first time something like that happened around there and that we didn’t hear that from him.
So not only does Midas not properly repair parts on a car, they also search it and steal possessions. I’m not confident in the repairing of their wrongdoing. I’m wondering if something else might go wrong. Their credibility is shot with me. I actually feel I should be refunded the cost for labor, if not the whole amount. And since it was a "defective part," they should refund me the cost for parts since the problem had to be fixed (and hopefully it actually is this time and nothing else goes wrong from them working on it). I will be going to the home office about this. I will reach out to corporate about this. I will review the hell out of this Midas location. A situation like mine was potentially life-threatening and a definite lawsuit waiting to happen. They will not be getting my business.

At approximately 1pm on Wednesday January 28th my wife and I went to Midas Scarborough (2119 Lawrence Ave East) for a simple oil change. The estimate was $105. We kindly declined and waited outside the shop parking lot. We watched the Midas employee (tall black guy) back our vehicle into the Chrysler next to us. We were not upset, mostly shocked. No one was talking. I was thinking to myself, ok any minute now - someone is going to apologize or something. Instead, the owner Mohan approached us defensively asking why I called insurance. I said because we are not mechanics and do not know what to do. He was upset and went back in the shop.
My wife and I felt confused and upset. Wondering why we were not the ones throwing a fit. I went in the shop and demanded my keys. I was yelling and just asking for a little common courtesy. Mohan offered to wipe off the scratch but not fix the dent. We overheard him say that the Chrysler also just had a scratch and the dent was already there. (How convenient?)
We did not feel the need to contact the police as no one was injured. My insurance agent advised us that the Chrysler who was hit may claim for personal damages once he finds out what happened to his vehicle and is why it's very important to report even the smallest accident. When my insurance contacted Midas for their insurance info, Midas requested proof of the accident. This meant that the company is completely denying their stupid mistake ever happened. I was shocked. No integrity. Courtesy and an apology can go a long way.

On 02-14-2015 I went to Midas at 1309 SW Military Dr San Antonio, Tx 78221 to have my car checked for an oil leak or transmission fluid leak. I was informed by the staff that the rack and pinion steering was bad and was leaking power steering fluid which had to be replaced. I was approved for an account and being that I did not have the cash to pay for the repair I went ahead and agreed to have it fixed. My credit card was charged even before the repair was completed. I was told the car would be ready by 6:00 PM that same day. I was given a ride by my brother to pick up my car but when I got there at approximately 5:45PM they were still working on my car.
I got concerned because there were three employees working on my car with very little lighting. They were holding a flashlight in one hand and working with the other hand. Two hours later about 8:00PM I was given the keys to my car stating my car was fixed. The employees at Midas did not even test drive my car before they gave it back to me. I got in my car and started to drive home but having driven just a short distance from the shop I noticed there was something wrong with my car because it was pulling to the side when I put on the brakes. The steering wheel was turned to one side. I was very scared to drive the car that way so I turned around and went back to the Midas shop. Fortunately I caught one of the employees who was already leaving. I informed him that the car was not running right. The employee just apologized and offered to take me home leaving the car with them until 02-16-15 because they are closed on Sundays.
It is a real inconvenience for me because I have to be at work by 5:30AM on Monday and don't have my car. All he could do was apologize. He did offer to pick me up on Monday at 4:00AM which remains to be seen. I don't understand how they can charge for repairs prior to completion of the job. For the life of me I don't understand how they can release a car without first test driving it. I could have had an accident! The charge was $2180.02 dollars!! Surely they should have fixed the problem correctly. Hopefully Monday when they check the car again they will fix it. My car was running smoothly before I took it there to be checked. Now it is running horrible. I am a single woman with a limited income needing my car to get to and from work.

They charged me (overcharged me) a whopping $1200 to do only the front brakes and re-wiring! I drove off and noticed my car was shaking especially when coming to a stop. I took it back and they said nothing was wrong.
Few weeks later my car overheated. I took it back and they overcharged me once more. I was on a payment plan, for them to automatically take out the payment for 3 months. Along the way they called me 5 months later to inform me that they lost my paperwork. They threatened to repossess my vehicle for my balance of $500. I've gone back and forth with "management" and everyone is rude and ignorant.
They always put me in a bad mood in saying it's my fault even though they lost my paperwork. In September of last year 2014, I went into this Midas location and met TED, and was getting fixed a noise coming from the front end of my car which was a hole in the exhaust pipe. I was told I would need to get a flange put on it. I waited a week and a half before this simple part came in, they called back (9/8/14). I went back and they installed it, I got in my car, turned it on, and a loud pop was now being heard. I went back and they said it just needed to be tweaked. They supposedly did, and all seemed to be fine.
On the 27th of September, I was on my way to a friend's place in NJ to help with putting together furniture. On the way there, as I got onto I87, something popped and the loud noise came back. In my frustration, I got off the Newburgh exit, waited 2 and half hours outside Meineke before they opened to have them fix this ongoing problem. They showed me under the car that the flange wasn't correctly installed, the bolt was NOT on the right side to keep in place. So I had to shell out $417.33 to fix this. From a simple part to having most of the parts replaced because of Midas's fault of not installing it properly.
I went back to Midas and talked with TED, (who is a nice guy) but doesn't seem to care really for the customer, just go in and get out. I explained my frustration to him and he told me I would get reimbursed for my troubles of the 417.33. Sadly to say this never happened. I wrote to the Fair Business Bureau and still waiting a response from them. I would tell everyone to avoid at all cost to go to the Midas in New Paltz. I would head to the Meineke in Newburgh instead, great crew there.
I don't know if this will ever get resolved. I am very disappointed in Midas at the New Paltz Location. I didn't write this sooner because I was HOPING something would have been corrected. But alas, it has not. Avoid at all costs this location.

I went to the Midas off Buckley and Iliff in Aurora, CO. They were nice. I asked them to do a diagnostic on my car. I specifically asked them to look at my rack and pinion, cv axle and other parts that deal with steering. I told them that when I move the steering wheel I hear loud squeaking sounds. They came back and said my struts needed to be changed out. I then asked how was my rack and pinion. They said it was a little worn but it was just fine. I asked about the cv axle and they said it looked good. I said ok. So I let them change my struts. But the sounds were still there. When I came to pick it up they told me that the sound improved but something is wrong with the rack and pinion. They need to change it out. Well, I didn't have enough money to get the job done so i just took my car. No sounds were improved because the struts were not causing any noise in the first place. It was the rack and pinion.

My folks (72 yrs. & 76 yrs. old) have been going to Midas (manager **) on 83rd Union Hills 85382 for years & trusted them. I took my 2002 KIA spectra in for a routine oil & belt change. ** called my mom & said struts were bad & needed to be replaced. She said ok. Picked up vehicle & Paul came out & said "I did you a favor & put some special conditioner in your tranny because I noticed it was slipping." I said I wasn't aware of this but ok, since I didn't think a conditioner could hurt my transmission. I WAS WRONG - KIA specifies that ONLY KIA transmission fluid should ever be used on their vehicles because the inside of the tranny pans are painted and any other product causes the paint to come off & ruins the tranny-I would assume any mechanic having had worked on numerous KIAs (since mine was 2002, so at LEAST 12 years to educate yourself as a mechanic) over years of being a mechanic, would surely know this.
All I did was google "KIA vehicle transmission fluid change" & the information came up - I take my car to Midas expecting that the mechanics are educated about such issues. My transmission is ruined - I had another mechanic who does ONLY transmissions, clean out the paint & clogged filter & he told me that it would only buy some time but the transmission would be ruined by this. I pulled out the invoice for the $1440 work one by Midas that day & realized they charged me for 3 belts/labor & my car ONLY has 3. That the mechanic who cleaned the tranny noticed my alternator tension bolt was stripped & belt left hanging caused voltage issues & more $$. Invoice stated "reseal" valve but there was no need & now it leaks. There are other issues too.
The mechanic that cleaned the tranny talked to ** & ** called my parents to "credit" the $100 it cost to clean so that's "admission" of mistake & I have invoice for mechanic that cleaned tranny but ** isn't admitting he did this because it was a "favor" & he DIDN'T LIST IT ON INVOICE -- ** at Midas KNOWS what he did. I sent a letter asking that he right his errors but he has not contacted me back. My folks have spent thousands & thousands of dollars with this Midas over the years. I cannot believe that this shop can ruin my car & not be responsible. I have contacted the BBB. I am going to do the same with the corporate Midas & parent company of them. I went to Midas for an oil change. The technician broke the center cap to my rim. They replaced the cap and gave me a free oil change. I went back to use the free oil change. BIG MISTAKE. I asked for an oil change and to have the tires checked for balancing. I was told the tires do not need to be balanced and that the vibration was due to a broken strut. I refused the repair and they put the tires back on so that I could be on my way. I left the location and traveled about 4 blocks and the rear driver side tire came right off the axle as I was driving. THEY FORGOT TO TIGHTEN THE LUG NUTS ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE.
I contacted the assistant manager (this location does not have a manager) and he had my truck towed back to the Midas location so he could attempt to repair the damage caused by his technician's negligence. We sat together in his office as he called a "regional manager" and stated that "a tire fell off on Nick again". Nick is the technician that worked on my truck and apparently Nick has done this before. They made 2 attempts to repair but were not able to fix the damage Nick caused. I have a damaged rim and damaged braking system and damaged axle. My rear suspension is shot.
In addition, they replaced the broken strut and charged me for the parts and I can't be sure that Nick didn't cause that damage too. I have now contacted the corporate office and am being told that I will hear from the shop owner within 48 hours. This gross negligence could have caused an accident and cost an innocent person or myself our lives or have been seriously injured. I took my truck to Midas at 3607 Westheimer in Houston Texas. My truck is a medium sized box truck that cannot be serviced by most mechanic shops. This particular shop was however able to service it. I was pleased because they were able to accomplish the work I needed done (a complete brake repair job) on the same day I scheduled to bring the truck in. Another shop that specializes in medium to large sized trucks wanted me to leave the truck with them & they promised to get to it as soon as they were able to, which meant several days down the line. Well, I just can't have the truck out of service for that length of time. It's my livelihood & I actually lose money when I'm not busy making it.
The job was completed on the day it was promised except for some brake sensors which I needed to pick up from a truck parts house. A couple of weeks after the initial job, I brought the sensors & truck to their shop for the final stage to be completed, & this is where the commendation comes in & is the reason I'm writing this review in the first place. The mechanic discovered during the course of the job that he had in his shop the right sensors to use & used them instead of the ones I bought & brought. When I picked up the truck at the end of the day, **, the store manager returned the sensors I'd brought to me & explained what they'd done. I felt this was honorable of them, as they could have just as well kept these rather expensive sensors for themselves for a later job with someone else. Alright, this is probably the most ridiculous service experience I have ever had. I went in and scheduled an appointment to have my brakes done. I dropped my car off and was told by a very pleasant man that they would do an inspection and call me with the results. I had had some other service done up the road about a month ago and was told I had about 20% pads left. When Scott called, he told me I was at 2% and I needed new rotors. I had never had my rotors turned before so I asked why and told them I had conflicting information.
I came in and was offered to be shown. I appreciated this, but wanted to be sure before I authorized work to be done, as I am sure anyone would with conflicting information. So I pushed my stroller and two-year-old out to the shop and the very pleasant manager (Scott **) pointed to my rotors and said they were worn. As my eyes are not calibrated to read measurements in the thousandths, I asked if he could show me the measurement. Suddenly he stated in a hostile and condescending tone, "You mean the micrometer reading?" I said, "Yes". He replied, "How about I put the wheels on your car and you take it out of my shop? You came in here questioning me from the first moment. We are a shop that prides ourselves on integrity, and you are basically calling me a liar. I don't even want your business." (As if I grew up with this guy or did any business with him in the past causing me to trust him over another expert.).
Anyone who responds in this manner to a request that would take 2 minutes and validate his claim is not a man to be trusted. So I responded by saying, "I think you are a liar." His reply: "We are experts, why did you even come here? We're the experts, right?" He then pulls out a micrometer and shows me the reading and then points to a book that says the acceptable amount (less than 2 minutes). The reading was above the amount in the book. I say, "That's more than the acceptable amount." He replies, "I have to remove .15, are you having trouble with the math? Get out, get out of my shop."
I ask for his last name and his district manager's contact and he repeats his demand for me to leave. Reluctantly, I go into the parking lot. He follows me. After that the exchange became inappropriate and obscene on both sides. Bear in mind, my 2-year-old daughter is still in the stroller while this man chastises me for my desire to verify what needs to be done. I can't say I have no blame in the exchange in the parking lot. I certainly said my share of nasty things, but it was not unprovoked. He then tells me to leave the parking lot and wait in the neighboring lot while his employees put my car together. I complied. I then left.
I went across the street to Brake Masters, they showed me everything with a smile. There was a long wait as they were quite a bit busier, but I certainly understand why. They got my business for the brakes and a few other jobs making for a decent ticket for them and my return business.
For what it's worth, Scott was not lying, at least not about the rotors. I was leaning toward believing him until he told to take my car and go. I don't trust anyone that tries to intimidate his customers into taking him at his word in the face of conflicting information. I contacted customer care and was told a district manager would get back to me within 48 hours, but that was 5 days ago and I've heard nothing. I suppose this is either a regular thing or the DM is apathetic.
A co-worker I trust was shocked and he knew Scott by name and said, "He must have been having a bad day." He said he had done a lot of business with them and had never heard anything like that. Maybe that was the case. Either way, I don't recommend you go there unless you are particularly trusting of mechanics you have never met before.

So the first time I brought my car in, it just needed a new catalyst converter cause the cat sensor was registering a bad cat. They said they couldn't tell which cat needed to be replaced and had me replace all three, in the process broke some kind of bolt for in the engine which they said happens all the time. Then when I get my car back, it overheats less than 5 miles from their shop cause the cat they put on was bigger by a little. Then the last and the radiator hose wouldn't reach and to top it off, they left my latch off so I couldn't open it and broke my grill - which they tried to say it came in with a hose leak and it would be fine. Though I told them I don't remember it ever leaking, but they replaced when I went in mad.
Then I had to bring my car yet again cause it was making a horrible noise - kinda like the noise made when a child puts a soda can in their tire while riding their bike. When I brought it in, they said the bolt was loose and I requested a different mechanic work on my car since the problems I had already and they had the same one on my car again. Now my car which when I brought it in to this place had only the cats needed to be replaced less than a month ago it was working perfectly fine besides a cat was clogged, but now less than 30 miles later I can't drive my car yet again cause now after leaving their shop this time my car is undrivable cause when I step on the brake the dash goes crazy and then my car won't start. And when I try to start it, the dash goes crazy.
This last time I called over the weekend and they have always been open on the weekends and no one was answering the phone. I left a message of what was happening and asked them to call me back and 3 days later then I finally get a day off work on a Tuesday. I call them again and they said it's not their fault cause they were under the car not in the car yet they had to take the engine out to get to the third cat so they told me. This whole time, I have driven my car less than 50 miles and in total it's been to the shop 4-5 times in less than a month due to every time I get it back, it becomes undrivable.

We went around in a big dispute out there in the shop. I had to leave. We were making a scene out there. I was asking him, "How is it that this part is hanging loose now, when it was put in last fall?" He said his guys did not do it. I had intermittent knocking noise from engine. Took my car to E. Bell Rd Midas, Phoenix AZ, in April. They stated was the flexplate, and over the phone gave a quote of $700.00. Ok'd the repair. Ten days later, was advised car was repaired, but they needed cash only (CC/debit machine down?)... Upon pick up of the car, mechanic stated to us to check the coolant when we got home. Doing oil change after leaving Midas, so would check fluids anyway. Mechanic demanded cash only and when I asked for receipt and work order, he shook his head no.
Approx 2 miles after leaving Midas, the car overheated. I immediately pulled over and let car cool down. Checked radiator and it was empty. Radiator Reservoir also empty. I had spare water and oil in back of the car, so put water in and proceeded on, one block later, car overheated again, but was short distance from house, so drove into driveway. Under the hood, water and steam coming from radiator release valve, which had been loosened (probably loosened when they removed the radiator to replace the flexplate, but never retightened). I also noticed a new noise, whining engine or tranny noise, and now the power light on dashboard kept blinking. Immediately called Midas, and was advised to bring back the next day.
Brought car back next day. Handed keys to Service Mngr and he made out a repair ticket and handed keys to the mechanic who repaired the flexplate. He drove the car and stated wasn't sure what the noise is, but the dashboard blinking light is normal. The whining noise and blinking dash light are new symptoms, never did this before I brought car in to Midas for the flexplate replacement. Mechanic stated he removed engine, dropped tranny and removed radiator to do the repair. Advised me to continue to drive car over the weekend and if problems persist, bring back the next week.
Problems persisted, so we brought the car back to Midas a few days later. After having the car for another week, the mechanic called and stated all of a sudden while he was letting the car idle, the radiator cracked, and he removed it. He demanded another $150 to replace the cracked radiator. I and my brother walked back to Midas, since I had no transportation, and spoke with the mechanic. I told him this was due to HIS error and negligence by not putting coolant in the radiator when I first picked up the car after the flexplate replacement. The mechanic stated yes, he did not put adequate coolant in and that is why he told us to check the coolant when we got home. I told him, we didn't even make it home after leaving Midas, that the car overheated TWICE on the way home! The mechanic then stated he did not have time to fill the radiator. DID NOT HAVE TIME TO FILL THE RADIATOR??!!!! Things were getting heated and the mechanic was screaming at me in the Midas bay area, we left. My car was now "stuck" at Midas, with no radiator, so my friend took him the cash to get the new radiator and get the car out of there.
Picked up the car the next day, new radiator, but still has whining engine/tranny noise, car not shifting right, dashboard power light blinking, and now when I start the car, the starter is making a loud noise upon start up. The idle was also raised while at Midas, to 1400 RPM (at idle), and when you put the car into different gears, it makes a loud clunking noise. I filed a complaint with Midas Consumer Relations and was advised I would receive a call back from their District Mngr within 24-48 hours. I never received a call back. I continued to call several times, of which I was assured I would receive a call back and my complaint would be escalated due to I stated I would be filing a complaint with the AZ Atty Generals office, BBB and local TV.
I filed a report with the AZ Atty Generals office. Three days after filing the complaint with Midas Consumer Relations, my friend who has witnessed everything from day one with Midas, received a phone call from the Midas mechanic. The mechanic stated he was fired as a result of my complaint (lie), and because of my complaint he was going to "come after me". I immediately filed a Police Report.
Almost two months later, I still did not receive a call back from Midas consumer relations or the District Mngr, so I sent certified mail, a demand letter for refund or full repair of my vehicle. Five days later, Midas Consumer Relations called me regarding the letter. They stated due to I did not have a work order, or receipt, they will not assist me in this matter. I told them this is one of my complaints, because they REFUSED to give me a receipt after cash payment was made! They then stated that they spoke with the Midas Repair where I took my car for the flexplate repair, and they deny ever working on my car, and stated I have never been a customer there. I have taken my car there several times in the past few years, so I have been a customer there, and I absolutely took my car there a few months ago for the flexplate repair, however, after paying CASH, which the mechanic demanded, and requesting a receipt and work repair order, he refused to give it to me.
This place is a scam, and commit CONSUMER FRAUD! Where is, or what happened to the repair work order ticket I saw the Service Mngr fill out, with name number and complaint of why I was bringing the car back after the car overheated, whinging engine/tranny noise and dashboard power light blinking?? It appears they are destroying evidence, work order repair, etc... Why did it take almost 2 months for Midas Consumer Relations to FINALLY call me back, only after I sent a certified letter for demand of refund or repair? They had no intentions of calling until that letter! Then they made sure to destroy or toss out any work orders or anything that pertained to my car being there! I will pursue this matter legally.

Recently I dropped my 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 car at the Midas car center from Hartford, CT, for having replaced the spark plug wires coming from the distributor cap since the engine had some very minor hesitations - one wire having short. After the wires were replaced, the Midas mechanic who performed the work told me that the car also needs a new starter since it was too old and possibly not reliable anymore. I followed his advice and agreed with such replacement. I called two days later - they did not call me to confirm the availability of the car - and I was told that the car was ready for pickup. I paid, went inside the car and tried to start the engine that finally turned.
After a short distance, the car stopped in the middle the Midas parking. Complaining about this, two Midas mechanics showed up and finally managed to turn the engine on after minutes of trying this. As soon as the engine turned on, I started to hear a loud strange noise coming from the engine - like pistons knock - and a loud grinding noise coming from under the car. Asking about what's wrong with the car, one of the two mechanics told me (citation): "I don't know what's wrong, I tested the car yesterday and the car was running beautifully".
As it is now, my car is no longer drivable, I cannot sell the car, I cannot have the car fixed by another garage unless if I will expose myself to thousands over thousands of dollars in repair expenses. Midas simply ruined my classic car that is no close to showroom condition. I am currently in the process of instituting legal action against Midas from Hartford, CT. I will never go back nor use Midas services as their mechanics are simply either incompetent, reckless, negligent, bad persons or all the above. A couple of months ago, they forgot to reattach a few hoses to the carburetor, also another time they left spark plugs covers atop of the engine as trash instead to throw them away. Midas Hartford, CT, is in my opinion one of the worst auto garages in America if not the worst. Absolutely not recommended.

I took it back and they make some adjustment and told me that my rotor has some rust and cause the noise. The noise become worst so I took it to Toyota dealer and they told me the wheel bearing was not the right one, was the wrong year model. They put the wrong one in and assume everything will be fine. Will not go to Midas again.

Early March I brought my 2012 Kia Soul to Midas in Clifton Park, NY. I received an oil change and then drove my car to Florida the next day. Apparently Midas didn't tighten the oil cap and I loss all my oil by the time I drove back resulting in a dead engine. I brought my car back to Midas and they "fixed" it. Two days later I couldn't drive my car past 45 and it sounded like scraps of metal coming out of the engine. Midas has failed to contact me for almost two weeks now after I started a claim.

Midas Metropolitan Ave Ridgewood NY - Midas failed me in my inspection after they decided that my front brakes and rotors are rusty. Reason they are rusty? Because I didn't drive the car a lot?!?!?! Then he gave me a break down of parts and labor that almost brought me a heart attack - they quoted front brake pads $90, rotors $56, and I was like... seriously... I am a cute girl, but that doesn't mean I need brake pads encrusted with diamonds, and rotors made of gold for my Toyota 2000?!?!
Advance Auto Parts has my parts respectively for $40 and $30, so Midas really tried to rip me off with $100 more only for parts (labor was additional $100). I understand they are procuring the parts, but that overhead was just hilarious. I literally told them to EF OFF and left the store without doing anything there. Part of the reason I believe is that when they see a female customer, they immediately imagine an easy rip off. They are worse than Pep Boys, since they claim they are not like Pep Boys. These two companies are the worst. Don't ever use them.

We took our Benz to Midas in Northfiled OH to have an alignment at the discounted rate. We were told it needed inner and outer tie rods at a cost of over $700. I told the manager we had the car at the Benz dealership two weeks prior to the alignment and they said it did not need. Midas had adjusted the wheel out of alignment so that the steering wheel was at 8:00 & 10:00 position. I asked them to put it back like it was. They got belligerent and said they could not do that without replacing the tie rods! I was very upset and just left.
I filed a complaint with Midas regional office in Solon OH. They promised to call back within 48 hours. They did not. We called the regional manager, who supported their technician at first, but we insisted that it be corrected. The manager said to bring it in. We also informed him we were filing a complaint with the OHIO attorney general's office. His attitude changed when he called me back and politely asked me to bring in the car. He did align the car properly and the car did not need tie rods. He was kind enough to not charge me due to the inconvenience. It was clear we were being scammed! On another occasion prior to this event I took my other car to Midas in Broadview Hts. They fixed a muffler issue but said I needed shocks. I took it to the dealership and they said it did not need shocks! Beware of Midas. You will get taken!

Midas, Ellicott City - Hated it. To start I will be submitting a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. This is the most dishonest repair shop I have ever seen. So in late 2009, I had the entire exhaust system (front to back) replaced at this shop - $1800+ repair. And now a little over 4 yrs later, my muffler is loud. I call 10a Saturday to see if they can repair it before a snow storm coming in since this is my 4 wheel drive car and am assured it will be completed.
At 430p, I am getting concerned so I call and the Manager **, stated he was just about to call with the estimate - ESTIMATE? I was told it would be completed!! The estimate I am told is for the entire exhaust which is again completely rusted from the front to the tail pipe including the catalytic converter. Per **, "I will have to get prices but the converter will be +/-1200 alone, the front y piece, connectors to the converter, tail pipe and labor. I’m looking for these parts. The muffler of course is under warranty."
I express that I only want the muffler and tail pipe, none of the other stuff and was told by **, "It is all completely rusted. Nothing can be salvaged.” I ask when it will be completed and am told Monday. They are closed on Sunday. I asked if the car was drivable because I needed it for work on Monday and was told it was fine to drive. So I pick up the car and take it at 530pm to Monroe Mufflers on Rt 40 in Catonsville. I called and told them the same "the muffler is loud. I need it for work on Monday etc." They assure me they can repair it on Sunday.
On Sunday 10 am, I get a call from them, "The muffler and tail pipe need replacement. The pipe leading into the converter is rusted but they will try to repair it for us - estimate is $630." I also asked if they could tighten a belt that was slipping and they said sure. When I asked ** at Midas he said that they would have to remove the manifold, check pulleys. There would be at least 1hr labor charge. I asked can't you just tighten the belt and he said no. So I said forget it. Monroe finished the car by 4pm Sunday.
So now I'm angry at the complete opposite service I got from 2 muffler companies. Oh, and the estimate from Midas was emailed to me March 3rd, $4800 for a new exhaust, $1800 for custom job!!! There has to be some kind of oversight of companies like this. I cannot believe that Midas would condone this kind of blatant theft. This is the first time I have ever written a review. I don't know if it will help, but be warned. This company/site/manager are going to take advantage of you if you let them :(. Glad I wasn't a repeat fool - disappointed they got me the first time though!!

Had installed muffler and tail pipe at Midas, avenue of the cities Moline Il. Muffler and tail pipe now has hole in it. Paid $197.00 for this installed. Expecting to get full labor and warranty for the muffler and labor. I was told only the muffler was warranted no labor and tail pipe would be a charge of 87.00. In my opinion I was misinformed into paying for complete labor and parts when I bought muffler and tail pipe. The midas shop service manager would not even let me return the bad muffler for exchange and do the labor myself. When I had the muffler and tail pipe installed, Midas welded the pipe and muffler on, every weld corroded and tail pipe and muffler fell, dragging on the street. I repaired the dragging tail pipe and muffler myself from dragging on the street, but the tail pipe and muffler still have holes. The holes in muffler and tail pipe are caused by corrosion and welding, not from dragging on the street

I took my 98 Dodge 2500 ram into Midas in Kalispell, MT. They were going to turn the front rotors for me so I could do the brake job myself (about $75). Later that day they called me to come in. When I got there they had all 4 wheels off and up on the hoist. They said the front rotors needed to be replaced and my back drums were also worn too thin and were "discard"...... That I needed new ones. I asked is it normal for the front rotors to be discard (too thin to turn) before the front brake pads are even worn out, as this was to be the truck's very first brake job. I was doing this brake job as part of routine maintenance (60,000 miles on vehicle).
Both the manager and the mechanic stood by me (lying) and told me these were no good. Since it was all torn apart I told them to go ahead and fix the front brakes and put the back wheels back on the truck. To make a long story short, after 16 months the brakes needed fixing again. I took it to Les Schwab and they said Midas had used cheap Chinese rotors and light duty, cheap, ceramic brake pads. Les Schwab fixed it properly and it lasted for years. My original order from Midas was to be $75 dollars. It cost me $700. How do I know they ripped me off? Shortly after getting the truck home I took the rear drums off the vehicle to NAPA to be measured for specs. They said they were fine!
Midas wanted me to throw them away and buy new ones from them. The NAPA technician said that was the third story he's heard this week about Midas ripping people off, LYING to customers. I have put on 100,000 more miles on the back drums and they still are not worn out yet. Midas wanted me to buy new ones from them. MIDAS is very dishonest here in Kalispell, MT. I would NEVER do business with them again.

I took my 98 GMC in for a front end noise problem. I was quoted $2400 to replace a number of steering linkage and wheel bearing parts. Midas said they would not do an alignment until the parts were replaced. I bought the recommended parts at O'Reilly auto parts for $600. I flew my mechanic son in to replace the parts. He discovered none of the parts were bad but there was a bad shock which was not on the Midas parts list to replace. I then took the truck to another shop for an alignment. They did the alignment and when asked if they found any front end problems they said they found none confirming my son's assessment.
Midas sent me an email reminder for an oil change and responded, why would I bring any vehicle to them since they were so blatantly dishonest? I have shared my experience regarding Midas dishonesty with numbers of friends. Looking online at Yelp! we found the majority of reviews are negative. We were on the road, over 2000, nearly 3000 miles away from home & in Great Falls, Montana. I observed that suddenly it appeared that both of my tail pipes were dragging somewhat all of the sudden. I thought, "Oh my God, here we are on the road & I am going to have to have the muffler system replaced". My wife suggested MIDAS MUFFLER as they were a national chain & she was familiar with the name & I agreed. So there in the early morning hours of the 16th of September, 2013 there indeed was a MIDAS MUFFLER shop right there before me so I pulled in about a quarter till eight in the morning.
I spoke with the manager **, a thin man with a Fu Manchu beard & a shaved head. He had the mechanic, a big guy get the truck & put it on the lift. He looked at it & I was relieved that he indicated that only the two tail pipes had rusted at the brackets & would require replacement rather than the entire muffler system. That was really good news. He indicated they would simply cut the two tail pipes loose at the muffler & Chrome tail pieces, weld a new pipe to each original piece, & it would be as good as new. The price would be about $220 & it would take them 1.5 hours, 2 hours max. I told him let's get started. The mechanic started right away.
After nearly two hours at about 10:00 I asked ** how they were coming & if they were about finished. He said they were not. I advised him I needed to see a doctor while on the road as well & I had observed a doctor in the Yellow pages apparently nearby & I asked him if I should just wait or if I had time to walk down to the doctor & back. He stated "I would go ahead & walk to the doctor's office". I walked to the doctor's office & walked back. The truck was still not ready he indicated. That being the case I decided to go out to the workshop & see for myself what was going on. I was shocked at my observations, but did not really know for certain if what I saw was bad, but it did not look right, so I asked ** to look at it with me & I asked him what he thought about it.
I observed that the new pipes seemed smaller than what was originally there & they were slid into the remaining original pipes. He stated that "the pipes they installed were the same exact size", even though the new pipes were slid into the original pipes & they were not compressed or flanged at those connections. I asked him why instead of having one solid pipe on each side from the muffler back to the tail pieces the pipes were now cut up into 3 separate pieces of pipe & welded together. He stated "that was because they did not have a particular piece of equipment required to properly make the bends to install the pipe they way it was originally". They also apparently did not want to remove the spare tire to give them more working room.
I asked ** what he thought about the horrible welds compared to the original welds as seen at the old pipes (right next to beautiful welds done between the original tail pipes & the chrome tail pieces done by Midas in Houston, Texas). He stated "they will be okay". I had to trust him as I am not an expert on these things & just happened to observe them in addition to the fact that I need to go as they had already spent over twice the amount of time they indicated it would take to do the job. In order to get my keys & truck back & go, I had to pay & sign the acceptance document. I signed the acceptance document & paid with AMERICAN EXPRESS. The mechanic, although he knew nothing of my questions apologized to me when bringing my keys & vehicle to me.
Eventually I showed this workmanship to someone else & he indicated it did not look good at all & I probably ought to let another shop look at it. I took it to Knights Muffler. The gentleman at Knights Muffler indicated that if you slide one pipe into another pipe then the pipe that is sliding into the other pipe has to be smaller & thus a smaller diameter pipe had been installed than what I originally had. Knights indicated that the pipes should have been one piece if the work was really done right & very likely whoever did this work did not have the proper equipment to bend the pipe properly so that it could be installed properly.
Knights indicated that it looked like they were training someone regarding the welds because you could see that at different places along their work the welds were done by different people. On a side note Knights indicated they would have charged about $180 to do the work & it would have taken about 1.5 hours (Knights Muffler is the place you should visit for muffler repair in Great Falls, Mt. They are great). I immediately made a complaint to AMERICAN EXPRESS (I later found that based on documents provided me by the BBB that AMEX seemed more interested in promoting & securing some sort of business relationship with MIDAS than standing by their word to help their current long term customer, interesting. The documents also confirmed that AMEX had seriously botched the complaint & got many of the facts & statements twisted around or simply wrong from the beginning) as they advertise that their customers will not be responsible for paying for inferior products or workmanship & they automatically allow an addition year of warranty for products purchased with their card.
I advised AMERICAN EXPRESS accurately that I had discussed the problems with ** at MIDAS MUFFLER in Great Falls, Montana immediately upon my observations of the work in question, but he had LIED to me about everything other than the fact they did not apparently have the proper equipment to do the job they took on to do & promised to be completed in no more than two hours. That being the case I did not want to talk to ** at MIDAS any further since he had already LIED to me once & there was nothing to say he would not LIE to me again. Apparently AMERICAN EXPRESS contacted the shop about the complaint & asked the manager ** to contact me as he apparently LIED to AMERICAN EXPRESS & indicated he knew nothing of the issue.
He called our phone number & left a message. Once my wife picked up the message she advised me of it & I promptly & immediately returned his call & spoke with him. He stated that AMERICAN EXPRESS told him that I told them that he said he would refund my money for the job they did. I very clearly & in no uncertain terms advised him that I never said any such thing to AMERICAN EXPRESS (I later discovered via documents that were provided to me that indeed AMEX had told him this even though it was false & I had never stated it, implied it, or even mentioned it to AMEX). I told him that I advised them of the poor workmanship their shop had completed & that I had discussed it with him & that he indicated to me everything just as we had discussed. I also told him that I had indicated I no longer desired to discuss it with him because he had lied to me & I had confirmed the poor workmanship with a completely independent shop not affiliated in a any way with MIDAS MUFFLERS.
He confirmed our previous conversation & thanked me for returning his call. Later, I received a letter from AMERICAN EXPRESS indicating that they could not help me because they had advised the shop of the complaint & I had refused to cooperate by not returning the shop's call which was another obvious LIE & I am certain there is a way when checking phone records to prove that I have done everything I said I did. I then resubmitted my complaint & advised AMERICAN EXPRESS that I had returned ** call & he was clearly LYING & that again I did not desire to discuss the matter with him any further & I expected them to handle this & honor their promotions. Later I got another letter from AMERICAN EXPRESS that indicated they could not help because the shop now had submitted my receipt & the acceptance document that I had signed indicating I was completely satisfied with the work.
I called MIDAS MUFFLER back & spoke to ** & he indicated he was just doing his job & doing what MIDAS required him to do & this was an issue with MIDAS MUFFLER, not him. I called AMERICAN EXPRESS back again & complained & advised them this was ludicrous to expect that because I was forced to sign this document while nearly 3000 miles away from home in a basically emergency situation in order to get my truck & keys back & get back on the road after waiting all this time for an extremely poor job that should now not honor their promotion to take good care of their customers because of that document. I them spoke to a supervisor with AMERICAN EXPRESS. The supervisor reopened the complaint & indicated that although there may not be much that he could do because I had signed the acceptance document, he also indicated that given the circumstances it was easy to understand why I was forced to sign the document relative to the situation & he would have likely done the same exact thing. It would not be reasonable to think that so far from home I could just leave my vehicle & take a cab home while I attempted to resolve the situation with this shop. He agreed to reopen the complaint & suggested that I call MIDAS MUFFLER CORPORATE headquarters because this was a franchise operation.
I called MIDAS CORPORATE & lodged a complaint. I have still not received a response from a manager at MIDAS CORPORATE. I did receive a call from the apparent owner of the shop/franchise named **. I spoke with ** in depth as he alleged initially that he had no idea of what was going on here. He was obviously LYING & that became obvious during my conversation with him that he clearly was aware of the situation & had the same kind of disposition & attitude as **, but worse with a rather flippant attitude. He said he would not help because when I had a third party observe the workmanship it was not a MIDAS MUFFLER SHOP. I advised that I was out on the road, over 2000 miles from home & unless I just happened to come across a MIDAS MUFFLER wherever I was it would be kind of ridiculous to expect me to hunt down a MIDAS MUFFLER. He indicated there were over 200 MIDAS MUFFLER shops across America & I could have found one somewhere on the road & thus he was not going to help.
I advised AMERICAN EXPRESS immediately upon ending my conversation with ** & they indicated they were recording this in the file. I also indicated this was completely absurd to expect this. I also contacted MIDAS COPRORATE to advise them of the same & my conversation with ** at the Great Falls, Montana MIDAS MUFFLER shop. To this day I have still heard nothing whatsoever from any manager from MIDAS CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS. I have also found that other customers have had similar problems with this Great Falls, Montana MIDAS MUFFLER shop. I then received yet another letter from AMERICAN EXPRESS advising me they could do nothing because MIDAS MUFFLER indicated I had refused to have a third party shop look at the workmanship & I would have to have a written, signed, & notarized statement on company letter head showing the amount I paid to get the work repaired before they would consider reopening the complaint.
I called AMERICAN EXPRESS & spoke with a supervisor. I advised that clearly ** had LIED to them as I never refused to have a third party look at the work & that was the sole reason I lodged the complaint with them because I did have a third party look at the work when out on the road & that third party, Knight Mufflers advised just as I indicated. I reiterated to them that I had called AMERICAN EXPRESS immediately upon my conversation with ** at MIDAS MUFFLER & advised them of what he said & the audacity of him expecting me to search the country while away from home for a MIDAS MUFFLER somewhere out there. Furthermore, why should I even trust MIDAS MUFFLER as they had LIED to me time & time again, LIED to AMERICAN EXPRESS who apparently SUPPORTED MIDAS MUFFLER RATHER THAN THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMER & THE AMERICAN EXPRESS PROMISE, & it was MIDAS MUFFLER who had done the poor workmanship that caused this whole thing to start with rather than simply doing the right thing & doing what they said they would do when we took the vehicle in to start with & repairing it properly with good workmanship within reason of the time frame promised.
I asked her why they were not honoring their promotion to not hold their loyal customers to inferior workmanship & products along with the extended warranty for using their card. She indicated that although she understood what I had gone through that they could not help & their hands were tied because particular state laws, apparently Montana being one of them, indicated that once a customer signs that acceptance document which is a legal document the case is closed & there is nothing that can be done, regardless & short of the individual shop agreeing to refund the cost of the inferior repairs. I indicated to her that it was ridiculous to uphold that since many people may have not even thought to go look at the workmanship, much less questioned it if they were not sure of its inferiority, & would have thus signed the document possibly never realizing they had been swindled.
MIDAS then lied again to the BBB via a lady by the name of Annette ** indicating that I refused to let anyone look at the work & had already had the work repaired when I spoke with ** who she said was **. Like owner, like representative, like manager, amazing, & to this date I have received no response, period from MIDAS corporate through which I logged a complaint & requested a response from corporate management. Well what we have is a MIDAS MUFFLER shop in Great Falls, Montana who produces clear & obvious POOR WORKMANSHIP, then has a manager who LIES over & over again, a franchise owner who is flippant, audacious, & LIES to his customers, & a corporate franchise organization that does not care if their franchisees do POOR WORK, LIE, & CHEAT their customers & then their management does not even take the time to respond to their corporate complaints. Something must be done about this!

My thermostat went out (the check engine light told us so), so my husband changed it and everything was working fine (check engine light went off on its own). However, there is an oblong seal that also needs replaced when you replace the tstat. Since my husband didn't want to crawl back under the car to replace that seal, we took it to Midas. I told the manager to flush the coolant and replace the tstat AND THE SEAL as we hadn't changed the seal and coolant was starting to drip in my driveway. When I brought my car in, everything was fine except for a small leak. I take the car in Thursday afternoon. Friday late afternoon, they call to say they can't find the leak. I didn't ask them to find a leak! If they had replaced the seal like I told them the leak would have stopped! Then on Saturday morning, they call and are trying to sell me a new water pump with 4 hours of labor and insist that my husband caused a leak when he changed the original tstat.
By this time, I just want my car back as they've had it for 48 hours and obviously don't know what they're talking about. That night, I go to run errands and get less than 2 miles down the road and realize my heater isn't working (possibly from cooling system not being bled). Then a couple minutes later, I hear a loud knocking noise under hood on passenger side. It was the coolant bubbling and boiling in the coolant reservoir tank! So Monday when they opened I call and tell them my car isn't drivable (I'm sure I sounded thoroughly pissed but I was mad!). They tell me to take it to a dealership! I said no and then they said they'd get my car in on Tuesday when the original mechanic returned to work. I get flustered and take it in that Monday night after work and tell them to burp the air out of cooling system. 45 minutes go by and then they're telling me my fan isn't working.
Then the mechanic says "it doesn't have a bleeder valve". 2.2 ecotec engines have to be burped a different way and they wouldn't let me show them as by this time it's closing time. So I get mad and drive my car back home (I live about a quarter mile from this shop, entire reason I tried them in the first place). I lost my cool on the manager that Tuesday and he won't look at my car (I don't want them to anyway!). So my husband burped it and we realized that the boiling coolant and non-working heater are not related to air in the system but something much worse! So now I'm hoping that my In-Drive from State Farm that plugs into my ODB port can give me some information (and proof) about what all went on with my car while Midas had it. The X-Ray system on In-Drive says my check engine light is on, but it's not on on my dashboard in my car, so I highly suspect those shady mechanics turned it off.
I am praying that I haven't blown a head gasket and now my husband and I will be spending all our weekend replacing the thermostat again with the proper seals. I think those idiots put the Tstat in upside down or broke something. I have disputed the charge with my credit card company, contacted BBB, and am waiting for a GM to contact me (I called Midas' 800 customer service number twice). I am hoping I get all the proof I need to take these guys to small claims court. If I see the manager out in public, I will kick his ass so hard he won't ** right for years. If I do go to court, I'm going to try to get something for the fact that I haven't had a car to drive for 8 days now and have been losing sleep over this. Major inconvenience, headache, and ripoff do not trust these people. They are crooked and stupid.

The person who wrote up the final repair order then wrote that the lining was 3/32nds on the rear brakes. The actual lining measurement is over 3/32nds. She was also told that her tires (all four) were out of balance and ended up being charged an additional $30.00 for tire balance. I stopped by to question the manager as to the difference in brake lining measurement and he said that the woman was lying about being told that her brakes would probably become noisy in a day or two.

I stop by at one of stores. I tell them what I like to have done. And they try to sell me something I didn't need. All I wanted is the front tire put on the back. And the back tire put the front. I had my reasons. I told them that. He was trying to sell me something I didn't need. Told him forget it. I went to a different place. They did it for nothing. But I did give ten dollars for doing this for me. I have done business with your shops. They try ti sell something that isn't needed to be replaced right away. I feel your people should not pressure a person. I know one thing. I'll never do business with your shops again. Also if anybody ask about Midas, I just tell them they suck.

I went to Midas about 6 weeks ago for the first time. I decided to go because I just moved to this area and needed a mechanic I could trust. I went for an issue with my belt and wheel bearing and see if there were any additional issues. I was told what I originally came in for was the problems. Paid over 600 dollars to get fixed which I thought was pricey. I was told my car was ready. I still heard the same noise and was told it would go away. It didn't. I went back, was told the belt needed to be replaced (this was free), took the car and in few days the noise was back. I also told the guy the car still felt the car is driving bad still and the same rocky feeling. I was told it was fixed and I am just feeling things.
They looked at it again, meanwhile I had to beg to get it looked at again and now they say it's my rear bearing after I paid to get other issues looked at. My car is still squeaking and I paid for nothing and wasted time. I am very disappointed and out of my money.

First I took my truck in to get the front brakes worked on before a trip. $860.00 later and 2 1/2 days later I was able to pick up my vehicle. I was told when I dropped it off they would get it in that day, didn't get in the shop for almost 2 days. I left on my trip and on the way back notice the brakes were not working very good. As I pulled back in to town the brake light came on. I took it back to Midas to find out they never put the brake line all the way back on. Me being a forgiving guy I figured it was just a mistake. A couple months later I took my truck back to Midas to have the 4 wheel drive and front end worked on. When I was called and told they found the right hub was bad they replaced it and told me I was good to go. At that time I asked if they had checked everything on the front end and I was told they had checked the entire front end and there were no other issues. After picking up my truck going to Denver a couple days later the truck was almost impossible to keep on the road. I call Midas and let them know what was happening and let them know I was going to drop it back off, the truck had never drove like this before.

Truck went in on Friday morning and was told we could pick up that evening - gasket needed replacing. On Friday evening, it would be Saturday. On Saturday, it was "Maybe Sunday, for sure Monday." We thought it was being fixed. The charge was $700. It turns out this was just "diagnostic". It took them 4 days to figure out what was wrong. They wanted to replace a fuel pump that cost $1200. Reeling from the cost, I priced the part at the dealer. It was only $600. I stopped the "work" and took the truck to the dealer. For the $700 charge, absolutely nothing was done except they tore the engine apart to try to find out what was wrong with it. The pump did not need replacing. For $100, they diagnosed the problem within 2 hours and gave me a solid quote, fixed the truck in 2 days and never touched the fuel pump as that did not have a problem.
Midas does not know what they are doing. Do not trust them with any kind of engine work (My guess is they do not have the diagnostic equipment and are using the old fashioned trial and error method).

I "was" a customer of Midas in 2 different PA locations for over a decade. My 2008 Infiniti G37 was in for oil/filter change. They asked if they could inspect it. I agreed. However, they said both front rotors and the wipers failed inspection. Of course they "gladly" would fix these problems for $600! I said, "No, thanks," and took the car to 2 other mechanics. The first told me the rotors were fine and safe. The 2nd did the inspection for me and when the mechanic was finished (I had not told him about the Midas fiasco) simply asked, "How do the brakes and rotors look?" His immediate response was, "Fine, everything looks perfect."
When we contacted Midas, the manager referred us to his supervisor. He said that there is nothing they would do. We wanted a refund of the $21.99 inspection fee. He said he would "help" us with next year's inspection. I told him, "There will be no next time!" So we have filed a complaint with the Western PA BBB for a refund of $127 for all services performed!

On 4/3/13 I stopped in the Midas located at 102 W 25th St, Kearney, NE 68847 to have my tires rotated and balanced while driving cross-country from Chicago, IL to Los Angeles, CA. The store was getting ready to close. The manager went out to my car to get the miles off the car, and when removing the key from my ignition, he locked it up. He later went out to move the car into the service bay, when we learned he wasn't able to start the car. We called a locksmith, as there were no parts in town to replace it. The locksmith came out and took a look at it and informed me in front of the manager that he had snatched the key out, with “force” while the car wasn't fully in the off position, resulting in bending the pins in the ignition. I was stuck with a $65.00 bill for the locksmith and told I would need to replace the ignition, as the Midas employee damaged it. The employee who damaged the ignition admitted fault as well, and said he was very sorry. He told me to come back the next day and they would do my rotation on my tires for free.
On 4/4/13 I returned as I had stayed the night at a local hotel. I was charged for the service as well $60.80. On 4/24/13 I called Lexus as requested to do by ** to get the price of the repair and was told he would pay me to have the car fixed, as well as the $60.80 I paid of the service and the $35.00 I paid for the hotel. When he found out the bill for the car repair was $737.80, he refused to pay it and told me the age and miles on the car was the reason my ignition broke and proceeded to tell me I'm in Los Angeles now and he is in Nebraska and there wasn't anything I could do about it.
I have threatened to contact my attorney and sue Midas and he refuses to pay me for the damages. I have a written statement from the locksmith even stating the Midas employee was the one that damaged my car, and if Midas still refuses to make payment to me for this damage, I do have full right and intent to sue Midas to the fullest of the law. I will seek damages for car, hotel, repair bill at Midas, attorney fees, court cost and interest if allowed by the court. This $900.00 problem will turn into a $5000 or more problem.

I needed new tires, so I went to Midas on Mountain Rd. Moncton, NB, Canada. The reason I chose Midas was because every other garage (tire shops too) was booked solid with full parking lots. Midas was empty (judging from my experience, I can see why) and it was almost winter, so I brought my 2005 Toyota in that never had any problems ever. I had the tires changed/aligned and safety inspection too. Grand total was $600+. 2 days after leaving the garage, my car starts running louder and louder. Thinking it's the muffler, I waited until I had the money to replace it which I did (elsewhere at a cost of $230). Although the muffler noise was now gone, it became apparent that the car's transmission was having an issue. Once up to speed, on the highway let's say, the car wouldn't get out of passing gear and go into lower RPMs.
I have had the tranny checked and flushed with nothing obviously wrong. Again, I spent another $100+ and not at Midas. When I contacted Midas, they told me to bring the car in and that they wanted to help me (they wanted to help themselves once more to my wallet). I told them I would not bring my car back to them because everything started 2 days after leaving their garage (I'm saving the best part for a little later. Keep reading). The shop owner, Mr. Assels, never once tried to contact me regarding this as I had asked the cashier/mechanic to have him do so. So I contacted the BBB and filed a complaint formally. When they replied, they stated my car was old (2005 Toyota with 166,000kms and driven like I was an old lady. Anything wrong with it, I have it checked ASAP) and that they had no responsibility for the way my car was.
The mechanic who worked on my car has over 40+ years of experience (I saw his certificates in their BBB reply) is the one who sabotaged my car because whatever has been done to the car is something only an experienced crooked mechanic would do because no one can find a problem. There are no error codes to help with the mystery. Perfect way to sabotage a car. If you can't find what's wrong, then you can't say for certainty that they did this or that to my car. It's the typical garage scam when they think you are clueless about cars. If this garage is representing Midas, then Midas is as crooked as they come!
Here's the best part! My mother brought her car in for an inspection the same day as me. Her muffler went bad a few weeks after mine, but they left the rest alone as far as we can tell! Avoid Midas on Mountain Rd. Moncton, NB. They sabotage their customers' cars to get repeat business. When someone like me complains, they use the old story that the car is old and they are innocent of all accusations (the old garage scam). Crooked, crooked, crooked. If anything can be learned from this, it would be to stay away from garages with empty parking lots. They are empty for a reason and it's not a coincidence.

After getting passed that, they claimed they couldn't/wouldn't change the oil in our new car because it was unsafe to drive and needed repairs before it could even be considered for an oil change. Needless to say, we didn't buy the ** and left. The next day, we took the truck in (should've known better to go back). They took the truck back and claimed my truck only took synthetic oil, which again is ** from them. I've never put synthetic in my truck and didn't want the synthetic. They said it was the only choice and put it in anyway.
They charged us $42 for the 7 quarts of synthetic that I didn't even want. They charged for the filter that on the punch card clearly stated the filter was included. The only thing we expected to walk out paying was taxes and disposal fees. Instead, with our free oil change coupon, we walked out paying $40, just for oil and a filter! I disputed the charges and the guy behind the counter didn't care about a thing I said. In fact, he was messing around on the computer while I was trying to get answers from him. He obviously didn't care and probably was happy that they got away with scamming yet another customer. I was pretty livid walking out.
No care for the customer, just bringing in money and ripping people off. We will never return and hope to gosh living social refunds our punch card vouchers. They're completely worthless. Midas lied about too many things to detail here. While their insurer may cover the loss of the vehicle, there is no compensation for time lost uncovering the truth. My niece had the belt replaced on her car at Midas located in Turlock, CA. It had a loud squealing noise when it started and she took it back and they said it was because it was a new belt; she believed them. So she and her husband took a trip to Missouri and when they were getting ready to start home, the belt broke and then the engine overheated quickly and blew the head gasket. They had the car towed to a shop where they were told that the head gasket would not have blown if the belt would not have broken and the shop mechanic believed that Midas was at fault. Here comes the waiting and calling game.
They called Midas in Turlock and were told the guy in charge would call them back. This was on a Saturday. Well, he never called them so they had to wait until Monday. They called again and were told the guy was aware of the problem, but he was off for the day. So they called Corporate and kept getting transferred back to the Turlock store. It has been over a week and they finally sent an insurance adjuster out to where the car is and now the insurance adjuster is saying that it was not Midas' fault that there was a leak in one of the water hoses that caused the head gasket to blow and Midas was not responsible.
In short, "Don't Trust the Midas Touch." They do not stand behind their work and will try to pass the blame. Midas is the worst place anyone could possibly take a car for any reason. I would not even let them put air in my tires. They would probably mess that up. My niece is now stuck in Missouri with no car, 5 kids and no money. Thanks for the troubles, Midas. On April 4, 2012, I took my vehicle to Midas 385 W 12 Mile in Madison Heights, MI to have new brakes put on. In August 2012, I took my vehicle back to Midas and informed Midas that when I press on my brakes, the car pulls forward and the car grabs. The manager ** had one of his mechanics test drive the car and he told me that the brakes were fine and if I think I still have trouble, he told me to bring it back. Still having problems, I took my car back up there 2 more times and he told me sometimes the rain will make new brakes feel strange and just give it some time.
In January, my brakes started grabbing again. On Wednesday, January 23, 2013, my husband and I took my vehicle back to Midas the fourth time and told the manager ** what was wrong with my car. He test-drove and agreed that yes, there was something wrong. He told us to bring the car back on Thursday or Friday when his top mechanic was there and he’ll get to the bottom as to what’s going on. I dropped my vehicle off on Monday, the 28th. I picked it up and he told me he found that the cap off my brake fluid hose was torn up and cracked, which was why my brakes were acting up. I was told, “Everything should be okay. The next time you get your oil changed, come back and I’ll give you an oil change on me."
I took my car on Monday, February 4th to get the oil change. To my surprise, he went back on his word and charged me for the oil change, but with a discount. When he finished the oil change, he told me something was leaking from my transmission, bring it back one day so he can take a look at it. Friday, February 8th driving home, I pressed on my brakes and my car would not stop. I almost hit the back of a car. I called Midas immediately when I got home, informed ** that my car would not stop when I hit the brakes. He told me not to bring my car, that he will send a tow truck out to my home to tow my vehicle to Midas. He called and told me that they wouldn’t be finished with it until the next day. I called and he said probably Monday, because he was going to strip the car, take everything off to find what was going on. Unfortunately, he kept my car a whole week.
On Monday, the 18th, he called and ask if my husband can stop by Midas as he needed to talk to him face to face. There was a problem and he has found what was wrong with my car. I told him I’ll call and let him know. On my way home, I stopped by Midas to see what was going on and ** told me that my car had been sabotaged. Some liquid was poured into my brake fluid system. I was shocked. Also, while up there, he said that he towed my car to Matthews Hargreaves without my permission and without me knowing of it. I was upset to learn that he would do that without informing me first. He called me later that day and informed me that I can open a Midas credit card to pay for the work. He told me that no charges will be done until everything was finished. Midas kept finding different things wrong with it and again I was upset that every time either my husband or I would talk with **, it was always something different with the car. So I called corporate and complained.
On Tuesday the 19th, I did not know that my car was towed back to Midas until I called Matthews Hargreaves to check on my vehicle and that’s when Dan (at Matthews Hargreaves) told me that my car was back at Midas. I called Midas and ** told me that he had the car towed back because of a complaint. I told him I complained because they had not done anything but find problem after problem with my vehicle. The inspector form State Farm confirmed that the brake system was the only problem found, not the transmission, etc. I was charged with parts without my permission nor did Midas tell me that they were going to purchase any parts. He said he would let me know before charging anything to the account. But again, I wasn’t told my car was at another dealership to have the repairs done which will amount to over $3,000.
State Farm Insurance Company has concluded that Midas should not have charged me $720 since they didn’t do anything to repair the problem. I was very dissatisfied with everything during the process. Midas has caused me nothing but inconvenience and unnecessary monies that could have been avoided and also charges that I was not aware of. I want the charges reversed off the account. I took my vehicle up to Midas seven times to complain and to this day, my car is still not fixed. I could have had an accident or been killed because of some synthetic fluid instead of brake fluid! I will never do business with Midas again! I won’t even let them put windshield wiper in!

I needed a new muffler for my 1999 Mercury Sable. After being quoted the price for the lifetime warranty muffler, I asked if there was a muffler for the vehicle that wasn't top-of-the-line, as my car was already 14 years old. Initially, the manager behind the counter said yes. But after looking it up on the Midas computer, he said, "No, those mufflers are no longer being made because of the age of your vehicle." I ended up paying $151.19 for the muffler. That's not including the labor charge of $84.17. After waiting just about 3 hours, my car was done. The reason I had to wait so long was that Midas was waiting for my muffler to be delivered from the local auto parts house.
When I pulled out of the Midas parking lot, I realized that the manager could have easily asked the parts house for the cheaper muffler - just because the part number wasn't in the Midas computer, it doesn't mean it wasn't available. When I returned to work, I called both Firestone & Meineke. Imagine my surprise when both places were able to quote me on 2 different grades of mufflers. My son and I took his car to the Midas Muffler in Robinson Township, PA for an estimate for brake repairs due to a dashboard warning light that came on the same day. After inspecting our vehicle, the manager informed us that the car needed both back and front brakes, along with four new rotors and an oil change. We asked for the price for these repairs which came to over $700. The manager also recommended several other repairs which we declined as they seemed unnecessary. While doing the repairs, the manager came out to tell us that the tech needed to replace two lug nuts that were damaged during the repair.
After discussing the matter, he did not charge us for the replacement of the two lug nuts but included them at no charge. A week or two later, my son ran over a nail and needed to replace a front tire. When I took the vehicle to a local tire shop for tire replacement, the owner asked if my car was recently worked on. Before even starting the tire replacement, he noted that the front passenger tire was put on crooked, studs and lug nuts were stripped and would need to be repaired before the tires could be replaced.
When I explained the recent repairs Midas made, the owner said I needed to immediately take my vehicle back to Midas for them to correct the serious damages they did to my car. I immediately called the manager, Michael, at Midas and told him I was bringing my vehicle out and explained why. I was kept waiting for almost an hour, even though I was told they would take my car in immediately for assessment. As they pulled my car into the garage area, I watched very closely as the technician who made the repairs the first time was in serious discussion with the manager. They walked around my car, and you could tell they could clearly see the damages that I was there for.
They didn't even put the car up on the racks to look at it. There was no need; the damages were clearly obvious. They then pulled my car out and asked me to see them in the parking lot away from the other customers in the Waiting area. The manager informed me that someone else had worked on my car because I came from a tire place so they were denying my claim of faulty repairs and damages. When I became visibly upset, he told me that he would not discuss this further with me and I needed to contact his district manager. He told me also that it was recommended after the repairs they did that I needed to bring the car back after 50 miles for the lug nuts to be re-tightened.
I explained to him that even if I came in to have the lug nuts re-tightened, that wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome of the damages they did to my car. The damages were done to several tires due to stripped lugs/studs that needed to be repaired and their work needed to be redone, as per the Tire Company and an independent mechanic that assessed my car's damages caused by Midas. The manager then told me I was becoming confrontational even though I hadn't even raised my voice. I asked if he would please explain to the tire place why he was denying my claim of faulty repairs and damages they caused. He vehemently refused that request and told me to leave the premises.
I left the premises and immediately called the district manager as I was instructed to do at the number provided by Michael. There was no answer, and I proceeded to leave a lengthy message as to what had transpired. It is now two days later, and I have yet to receive a return phone call. I told both Michael, the manager, and the district manager that I would be following up with every avenue available to me to have my money refunded for the faulty repairs and subsequent damages they have caused to my vehicle. I told them I would be contacting my credit card company for their assistance. The vehicle is undrivable, is in need of serious repair by another mechanic, and the tires cannot even be replaced until that is done due to the extensive damages they caused by their negligence and ineptitude at Midas.
Any assistance you could provide to me would be sincerely appreciated. I have recently posted a warning of these happenings to my Facebook and other social media outlets. I have had many responses of others who were ripped off and damaged by this repair facility. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank you!

He still refused to release the truck saying that I had to sign another form. I offered to sign it and place it in the drop box - he refused. I offered a fax number at my job to return the form immediately - he refused. I asked that he please wait until 6:15 - 6:20 and I would sign upon arrival - he refused. I was not at fault that he didn't give me the form at 8:00 a.m. and never informed me about the form until 8 hours had passed. It is unreasonable for my daughter to be without her walker. It is also unreasonable for me to be without my truck for 2 extra days and miss work without pay because of a subpar employee named **.

In October 2008, I had the exhaust replaced on my 1998 Grand Marquis by a Midas dealer to the tune of almost $600. 2 years later (Sept 2010), I had to take it back because the exhaust system had rusted out so I paid another $600 to have the same parts replaced and believe it or not, here in October of 2012 my daughter has the car away at college and the Midas dealer in her college town wants another $600 to replace the same parts for a third time. This is crazy for them to use inferior material that will not last more than 2 years on car that is garage kept and well maintained.
I sent an email to Midas from their website requesting a review of my issue, and they forwarded my info back to the Midas shop that did the previous two exhaust systems. The manager from that facility called me, stating that he was told that I wanted information regarding the warranty on the parts. Not true. I have the warranty info and fully understand the lifetime on the mufflers only and and 1 year on the rest (parts only). I am now trying to get some resolution from the district manager in my area and seems that when I first heard from the original shop on Oct. 30, 2012, he was to have the district manager call me.
That did not happen so I called back today, Nov. 12, 2012 and was told that the district manager would call me right back. I waited for a couple of hours then went out, at which time I received a call from the district manager but could not take the call. I tried calling back but had to leave a message. Now the game of phone tag begins.

I went to Midas for an oil change. About four miles later, my car started making a really bad noise. The engine overheats and then dies. I took the car back to their shop and they said that it was an old car and the cylinder gasket was burned. I took the car back home. When I took the oil out, it was black like they never changed the oil. They said that the oil burned just like that. I had my brother, who is a mechanic, fix my car because I needed to work. This cost me $1,200. Midas insurance said it's not their fault this happened. They think people are dumb. There is no explanation about the break down which they said is not their fault. I almost got killed with my son and they don't give a rat's **. They just want your money. That's what I think.

My bad experience with Midas in Lake Jackson. My experience started with me buying new tires for my 1994 Nisan Sentra at Discount Tire in Lake Jackson. The gentleman I purchased the tires from gave me a coupon for $20.00 of an alignment at Midas. I informed him that I normally have my alignments done at Brazosport Tire, but they are not open on Saturday. Also, the $20.00 off helped me to go to Midas. So I went against my better judgment and went to Midas. With the $20.00 coupon, it was $69.00 plus tax. I thought If I can get this done for less than $75.00 and they don't mess up something else, I'll get everything done that was needed for my vehicles on this Saturday.
Brazosport Tire put the four tires on the car and I took it next door to Midas. I told them that I only wanted an alignment because I know how they operate. I went home and an hour later, Tim called me to inform me that my air filter was very dirty and that they had that filter in stock. I told him that I would take care of it, just finish the alignment. About 30 minutes later, Midas called to tell me to pick up my car. My wife drove me to Midas and my car was parked in the back. The first thing I noticed was that the clock in the dash was blank. I turned the key and no lights came on. I started the car and although it started fine, nothing in the dash worked, including the wipers, turn signals, lights, etc. The AC only worked on high. I immediately turned the car off and went inside to get someone.
I showed them what the car was doing, which they had to have seen when they test drove the car after the alignment was done. The manager came out and opened the hood and wiggled a wire coming from the battery. This told me they knew this problem existed before they called me to pick up my car. The wire that he was wiggling was directly above the air filter. I think when they pulled the cap off the air filter, they pulled something loose. I told them I was going back home and that I would come back when my car was repaired. He insisted on telling me that the problem was there when I brought the car in because the battery was not tied down. I showed them that there was no way the battery could have moved enough to pull against that wire that much.
After a little going back and forth, they agreed to repair the problem. I went back home. They called me later and said the car was ready to pick up. I went up there and the car was not fixed. They had put a tie wrap on the wire to try to keep it from moving. I told them I was not satisfied with that and spoke to another manager who said he would take care of it. I went back home and later I was called to come pick up my car again. This time they had used some red tie wraps to tie down the battery. I started the car and the battery and brake light remained on. I immediately turned the vehicle off. I told them once again that the car was not repaired. They informed me that they could fix it, but I would have to pay for it. I just took the car home the way it was. I tried to drive it and now nothing on the dash is working, including the turn signals and speedometer. I will take it to my mechanic.

I had a 2000 Ford Explorer towed to Midas on Madison, TN 37115, at midnight on Thursday, October 11, 2012, by Dad's Towing. The mechanic ordered all the parts he needed, but the parts house sent the wrong parts. When we came to get the auto at 3:30, he let us sit there for an hour while he got other customers' autos out the door. Then, he came and told me the mistake that occurred. I did not decline the other repairs; I have already accepted them early that morning when he called and told me what he needed to do, but he lied and stated on the invoice that the reason why he did not make all the repairs was because I declined service. I made a request to get back all my parts that he took off, but I did not get all of them back. Why? Were they hiding something?
This auto sounded and appeared worse off than it did originally. The ABS light was on now; I asked him to check everything, so what was wrong now? Why did he not mention this 2 days ago? He asked me if I could bring the auto back in the next 2 weeks to do the remainder of the week. I said sure ** no - I did not decline anything!

I brought my truck in for brake work. I explained that I was told it could be my brake booster. The rep said he would do a diagnostic test to see exactly what it was. My brakes were hard to press and made a noise like a balloon letting out air, but still worked. I received a call from the rep with a charge of $689.00 + an additional $56.00 for master cylinder. I said, "No, don't do the work. I cannot afford that." So after work, I came to pick up my truck. It was parked in their lot and I was given the keys. As I got in the truck and began to pull off, I had no brakes. My brakes completely hit the floor. I could not leave. As a result, I asked what they did because now I had no brakes. The service rep mentioned that they had to break the suction between the booster and the master and because of that, the suction is no longer there. Then, they "bleed" my brakes and still I had no brakes.
The service manager was very rude. He didn't care one bit. In fact, he argued with me and was completely out of line. In any case, I asked for his full name and his manager's name. He refused to give it to me and said If I didn't leave, he was going to call the cops and did. I was glad the cops came and explained that I couldn't leave. My vehicle had no brakes. It is the saddest situation I have ever experienced. The first, the feeling of being ripped off and deceived and second, the rudeness was totally unacceptable.

Very poor service. Three years ago in 2009, Midas ASC-certified mechanics looked at my breaks and told me I needed drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, along with rotors pads. He estimated $734. I said wow, I’ll need to wait or do it myself. I went back on the 16th, and said let’s just do the rear end ($415.78). Shop desk said Midas needed to order the drums, stop back Saturday, the 18th at 8am. Okay, the front desk says hold on. It’s not the wheel cylinders, it’s the axle seal. After closer look, they said they need to order that, which cost $465.50 (another quote) so they told me to stop back on Mon, the 20th at 8am. They said they should be able to get it done by 12noon, 1 at the latest. I got a call about 9:30 asking I should replace the bearings and inner seal as well. They said we need to order that. So I am now upset, asking what time now and how much more is it going to cost, $525.50 (3rd quote).
At 12 noon, Tuesday, the 21st. Okay, so I called at 12:01 and asked is my truck was ready. Front desk said not yet. The parts got there late and they were still waiting on the outside labor to press off, press on the new bearing and now I’m at $543 (4th quote). **? So what time now? 2:30pm. I got busy and got the VM at 3:45. I heard, "It’s outside labor, new mechanics, poor communication," and my favorite, “Well, we don’t work on 20-year old Mazda b2200 that often." Really? For all the misdiagnosis and no real clue how to do the job. Nothing the front desk said was accurate? Final bill was $493.81 for three different visits, four different quotes. I had no car for 8am Monday to 3pm Tuesday. Nothing about this visit inspires me to ever spend another cent at Midas, nor will I inspire others too.

I brought in my car for front brakes. I was informed I need new pads and rotors. I authorized the work. Less than 6 weeks later, there was a wicked loud squealing of front brakes. I brought it back and the tech took it in and brought it back out 10 minutes later with the claim that they merely "forgot" to grease something. I haven't driven my car much over the next month but about 5-6 weeks after this forgotten grease job, the brakes were squealing just as loud as before! I brought the car back in (3rd time now for this brake issue) and this time I'm told that the pads are defective and I need new rotors! I just paid over $450 less than 4 months ago for both of those things to be fixed.
The assistant manager said that he defected out the pads and that I was beyond the 90-day labor warranty so I had to pay over $120 in labor to get things corrected. Of course, I flipped out and told them that when I brought the car in the second time, they should have diagnosed this issue then. At that time I was within the 90-day warranty on labor. I told him just don't even bother touching my brakes and to have all of my service records for the past year printed out waiting for me when I came in at lunch. I informed him I'd get another place to do a total evaluation of my brakes and I’d just see him in small claims court to recoup my money. Then I hung up.
I went back to work and someone at Midas called and left a message stating that someone higher up at the general manager level told the assistant manager to go ahead and fix everything correctly with no charge to me. Whew, good thing because I was angrier than a hornet! But the whole experience was so bad that I will never bring my vehicle to a Midas again, ever!

We took our 1999 Saab 9.5 to a Licensed Auto Technician Company to find out why the breaks were making a grinding sound. The diagnostics was that, we needed rotors and pads on the front & back. Everything else on the brake system checked out good. They wanted $565.00 to do the work. So we called around to see if we could get a better price. After talking to Midas in Shelbyville, Russell, the store manager stated that he would do it at $240.24 for labor cost, since we bought the parts. So we took it to him at Midas on 7/21/12. On 8/7/12 at 15:30, our son was driving home from work, went to stop and the brakes didn’t stop the car. The brake paddle was rock hard then turned soft and hard again, which resulted accident.
After having the car towed home, the next morning I called Midas, and talked to Russell. He talked to me like a piece of ** and told me that it was nothing that they did. I said, “How could you know if you’re not willing to look at it?" Then he got real nasty with me. After that, I took the car to another licensed technician. Deceptive business practices/outlaw shop - My daughter this week took her 2008 Chevy Equinox into Midas Auto Expert, 13645 Monfort Drive, Dallas, Texas. The reason was to purchase and install a new set of 4 Bridgestone tires (Midas Shop invoice #**). At the time of arrival in the shop, there was no vibration in the auto, she just returned from a 1,000 mile trip to KY, where she had visited me and I had driven the car while she was here and there were no apparent vibrations. The technician called her into the bay to show here a wobbly wheel on the balance machine and informed her that she had two badly bent rims, and that she needed to replace the rims. She had him put the new tires back on the car on the old rims and when the car left it was shaking very badly.
Of course they did not write the bent rims on the invoice, and any reputable dealer would have written the bent rims up, for future liability issues, and this would have also voided the tire warranty. She went to a second shop to have the rims reevaluated and all 4 rims where fine. All 4 new Bridgestone tires had been purposely over weighted to cause tire bounce. The tires were re-balanced and excess weights removed, taking the vibrations out of the car. I have the invoice showing this correction, from a reputable shop, detailing what they found. This is a scam operation preying on those who they think they can get over on. But I give them credit for trying to sell the scam, with the excess weights, what a bunch of low life POS.

I went to Midas to do oil change and tire rotation as regular maintenance. When the shop manager called me to take a look at my car, he said one of the studs got worn out and needed to be replaced. Also, he said that the engine and transmission pan was leaking, the timing belt (which my car does not have; it should be called serpentine belt and the belt I changed it only a couple of years ago) has a crack and etc. He estimated to charge $72 to replace the stud and lug nut and a few hundreds for other repairs. I was surprised to hear the stud was worn out that quickly because it's been only 3-4 months since the last tire rotation (another Midas shop did it) and no one mentioned the stud was worn at that time. I looked at the car and it has three others intact, so I did not agree to replace it (I want to do some research on stud issue back home). When the technician pulled my car in front of the shop, I noticed that the lug nut was not on the wheel. So, I asked to put it on since I need some time to think about replacing it.
However, the manager told me it is missing when I took my car in. I was angry right there. I did look at all of my wheels before going to Midas, so I told him that and suddenly I found the "missing" lug nut on the floor where my car was serviced. I pointed it to the manager. He said something to the technician and said, “Yeah, the stud was broken when rotating the tire.” However, he did not offer to replace it. He finally said the technician broke it. I was and am very angry about the way Midas handled my car. He should not lie to his customer. Everyone makes mistakes, but if you admit, it can be forgiven. However, Midas just tells the lie right in front of its customer's face. I will never go to any Midas to do any repair. This store destroyed the reputation of the whole chain. If you are interested to know what happened to my broken stud, I had to take my car to another repair shop to replace the stud and lug nut since it will be dangerous to drive it on highway. Why did he not ask me to use my donut tire or spare until I get 10 miles away to the Southside? He insisted that I would probably not make it and he would not if it was him. Of course, being a woman I got the new tire at $130.00. He even led me to believe he could not put me the same time back on because of violation codes, etc. I have several cars in my household that have used the Midas Touch people. Given the economy, that experience taught me that the Midas Touch is not cheap. So all women: be careful. Midas’ techs do not care about the client that day. About 3 months or so I took my car into Midas. The initial problem was that my car would rev higher than it should and when you come to a complete stop, it would "kick" from behind. They looked at it and said that it was the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and that it needed to be replaced. I told them I just had that replaced and if they could re-check. They in turn said they already had and that's what was needed. I had it replaced by Midas at $409. About a week after, the check engine came on again and had the same symptoms as when I brought it in. They re-checked it and said it was yet another sensor, and that it needed to be replaced at around $288. I asked them if they could verify and recheck, and again they replied that they did.
They ordered the new sensor and when the part came in, it was the “wrong part.” They said that in the meantime they rechecked the sensor and it checked out okay. They suggested that it was the transmission and gave me a reference to go to. I went to the transmission place and they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission. Not feeling comfortable going back to Midas, I went to another place and they said that Midas did not adjust the TPS correctly, they fixed the problem at a cost of $300 (new place not Midas fixed the problem). I informed the manager at Midas of this and he said to bring the receipt to them, which I did and have not heard from them in well over a week.
Also, a couple of months ago, I went to get my A/C checked and Midas said that I needed a new compressor and hoses at $1,300. They claimed that I needed the hoses because they had a "leak" and they couldn't just replace the compressor. I took my car to Firestone and after they tested the A/C system, via dye, they said I just needed the compressor at $900, they said I did not need the hoses replaced because they found no leaks. What actions can I take against Midas if any?

Since I had lifetime warranty on my brakes, I called Midas on Monday, April 30, 2012 complaining that my brakes were going to the floor and I think they are scrubbing. Midas told me to bring it in so they could check them. Well, upon taking my tires off, they messed the lock on my custom rims. The manager said, "It is not the lock, just the bolt; so it will not affect your rims." Dumb me to believe him. Upon inspecting the brakes, they told me the manager said they were metal to metal and that the rotors had to be replaced. I asked him if they could resurface them or turn them.
The manager said that they were too bad for that and it had to be replaced and the total will be $489 for replacing rotors because this is the reason why it will not stop. I thought that was high but I paid it because I needed my car to get to work and go to the hospital to see my dad. Well, after 6 long hours, Midas told me that my car was fixed and ready.
When I got to the stop sign, I stopped fine. When I got to the red light on the road, the pedal went to the floor but it stopped. I thought maybe it was air in the brakes and if I drive it a little longer, it would stop. Well, it did not. That night, going home, I tried to stop at a red light and slid through it because my brakes would not work. That morning my friend and I took the car back and explained to them the car was not fixed. Midas checked it and came back to tell me the master cylinder was gone and it would be $257 to fix it with $30 off. I said, "Sir, you should have seen this before I drove off yesterday and if I would have killed myself or ran into the back of someone, $30 would not have helped and I am not paying for something that your mechanics did not fix when I told you what the problem was yesterday."
So we left and I got the number of the owner and called and explained to him what was going on. I also told him about my sliding through the red light and almost killing myself. Then he said, "Well, I just talked with the manager at the store and that's not what he told me." Then he started explaining all these things about brakes. I said, "Sir, I do not understand so can you tell my boyfriend this because he will understand better than I can." He said very harshly, "I do not want to talk to him and let me ask you this, did you hit anybody in the back or get hurt?" I said, "No, but I could have." The owner then said, "Well, if you did not, what is the problem? You either pay for services or go somewhere else," and I was so shocked that he said that. I told him I was going to call corporate.
He said, "Go ahead. They will call me and I will explain everything to them. Better yet, get a lawyer. Tell him to call me or give me his number. I will call him for you." I just hung up. Then he called back twice; I did not answer the phone. I had to find another mechanic and when this mechanic opened my hood, the latch to hold the stick was broken and I know Midas did it also. This mechanic checked my car and said, "It is not the master cylinder. It is the left rear caliper that is gone. This is the reason why the car slides when it stops."
He had to fix my car and I had to pay more money to this mechanic for something Midas did not check. But on the paperwork Midas gave me, it states they checked and that was a bunch of **. Also this mechanic showed me how Midas messed the locks up on my custom rims by breaking the lock and putting a screw to keep the tire on. I am wondering, do I have a case? What should I do? It's some consolation for him almost tripling the quoted labor to 4.4 hours and charging a 141% increase in the parts. It's a lesson learned. Look at the business rating before committing to the repair (Midas is rated beyond poor!) and get the quote in writing! Midas charged me $430.15 in labor and $368.44 in parts. Also, they charged a shop supply fee of $23.96. What's that? Also, your taxed on ridiculously high parts costs.

I have a 2008 Honda CRV. All previous scheduled maintenance has been performed by our licensed Honda dealership, including all oil changes. Four weeks ago, my son, in an effort to do us a favor, took the CRV to the Midas shop on Tunnel Road in Asheville, NC, to have an oil change when the oil change light came on.
Two weeks later he noticed the oil was leaking under the car where he parked it. He added oil and kept an eye on it. Four weeks later, the oil light came on and the oil tank was almost empty. He took it back over to Midas and they told him the oil pan was cracked. They did not offer to fix it. He called me with the report and I told him to please take it to the Honda dealership in Asheville. They told us that the bolt had been over torqued when the oil was changed which caused a stress fracture in the pan.
The entire oil pan would now have to be replaced. The cost is going to be $563.49. I contacted the Midas people to ask them to take responsibility for their mistake. I was told that they never have mistakes like that, and that they would not accept any responsibility whatsoever. I asked to speak to the manager and was told he wasn't in but that his answer was no. I asked that they please have him give me a call. He has not. The young man I spoke to told me he wished we had come to them and they would have fixed it. I reminded him that my son did come back to them but no such offer was made.
I have lodged a formal complaint with Midas customer service and I am prepared to take further action. This has caused an unbelievable amount of anxiety and financial stress in our family. My son, a senior at UNCA, is so upset that "he" caused this problem when money is so tight. He went to Midas in the first place to save us a few bucks, as he knows how hard his Dad and I are working to get him through college. In essence his spending $19.99 has cost us $563.49.
I would caution anyone who is even considering a trip to Midas to go elsewhere. Their work was faulty and they not only didn't stand by their work, they denied any responsibility for it at all. Don't even think of going there! I will never go anywhere but my Honda dealership ever again.

Lady friend had two disks replaced, since they were warped and caused pedal pulsation. I was shocked when I saw the bill. Midas charged $150 each for the disks, whereas the identical brand and part number disks are available new on eBay for about $35 each plus shipping. They also charged $50 for a $20 disk hardware kit. The prices charged were for parts only, labor was extra. The area manager for this ten store franchise said that the charges were in line with Firestone, NTB, and Goodyear. That is the basis for defense, not what is reasonable, but what they can get away with from trusting customers.
However, I checked with those other stores and found Midas to be considerably higher than each of them. I checked with PEP Boys and found them to be about half of the Midas parts cost. That is because they sell parts over the counter, so they can't get away with jacking up the price by 328%, like Midas did for the disks. They hide their profit and overhead in the parts charges, since they can't hide it in labor. You also pay extra sales tax on these overcharges.

I went to have my vehicle serviced at Midas on 01/10/12. The manager on duty, Ken **, told me it would cost $50, but cash only. I had to run and get cash and came back. He met me in the parking lot and told me to give him the cash before his supervisor sees him, and put the cash into his shirt pocket. I then left, thinking wow… that was strange. When I arrived home, I noticed my GPS Device was missing from the glove box, which is always kept there and never taken out. I use it daily for work purposes. I immediately returned and confronted the same manager about my GPS. He proceeded to call the police for me. While the officer checked the building for the GPS, the manager rushed outside to return the $50 to me. I told him I wasn't here for that, that I just wanted my property back. He insisted I take it back, and so I did.
The officer did a walk-through of the shop, but found nothing. I filled out a police report and have not heard anything about anything until today, which was my 6th time calling along with 3 separate emails. I was told by a female that "They are not taking responsibility". Why not? I have all the documents from the get-go. I put on the report that I was not pressing charges. Was that a mistake? I didn't think it would go this far. I am being treated like the criminal, not the victim. No one from the company ever called me to inform me of anything. They called me after the supposedly ran the test and told me what was wrong and I agreed to the repairs after being assured my car would be in tip top condition by Jody in Hattiesburg Ms on Broadway Drive. I left a payment of $1329.83 in the form of a check that was to be held for 30 days. Before it was taken to Midas it was running but once they completed the work it stopped all together. I called several times about the car before they agreed to come get the car. Once the car was back at Midas they found several other things that should have been addressed in the initial diagnostic test. The final results of the second visit to Midas I was informed that the motor had been damaged which is going to cost much more than I was prepared to pay for. I took my 2007 Chrysler Town & Country van to the Midas Muffler shop at 2111 Pine Ridge Rd. in Naples for an oil change on 11/23/11. After a few minutes of waiting for the work to be completed, I was told by the man behind the desk that I had a right front wheel that was about to fall off the car and that I should not even drive it around the block. He invited me to come out and see the problem. I went with him to the hoist and he showed me a right outer tie rod end that was worn and could be jostled around to produce a clunking sound.
I have experienced similar suspension problems on other cars and knew it was reasonable that the part should be replaced and I asked him to give me a quote. He came up with $99 for the labor and $95.66 for the part plus $81.00 for the alignment and $17 for shop supplies. When I asked him how much time was used to compute the labor charge he said that it didn't matter as he was quoting based on his experience with these types of jobs. I then remarked to him that it seemed to be very expensive for such a simple part. I also questioned his alignment charge. He said he does hundreds of alignments every month and it was like I was getting it free and that I should shop around and then I would see that he was right. But he stressed I should not drive the car because the wheel could fall off at any moment.
Frankly, I felt as though he was trying to frighten me, since I am 73 years old. However, in my youth I worked on cars and have a very good working knowledge of how they operate. Among other things, I am certain that a tie rod end does not keep the wheel from falling off! I left without committing to any further work on their part.
I checked online with Rock Auto and found the tie rod end available in two models which are priced at $18.06 and $28.79. Then, I checked Auto Zone and saw that there are three units in their stock with the cheapest being $21.99 and the most expensive at $34.99, while the other one is at $29.99. Next, I visited a local auto repair shop in my neighborhood run by a Cuban immigrant and talked to him about replacing the part. He quoted $26.75 for the part and $75 to put it on. He also informed me that he would be very careful in counting the number of thread turns he made to get the old part off and turn the new part the same number of turns to install it but I might want to consider an alignment if I had not had one in a while. His charge for a computerized four wheel alignment was $60. I gave him the approval and got the work done, including the alignment for almost half of the outrageous quote from Midas.
My experience tells me that there are plenty of autos on the road that need some type of service at any given time and that by having a great oil change special or tire rotation special, etc. you can end up with a lot of cars in your shop that can lead to all the mechanical work you need to be a prosperous auto repair shop. In fact, if you are any good you will get repeat business and referrals, neither of which the Naples Midas shop will get from me. Furthermore, the local shop did not charge me for shop supplies and his shop and offices were clean and neat as a pin.

I took my car into Midas for a routine brake check. The brakes had been making a sound which suggested to me that the pads needed replacement and since I had received an inviting coupon from Midas, I decided to give the business a shot. That was, to say the least, a serious error of judgment. Upon receiving an assessment from Mark ** which was difficult to understand over the phone, in so far as he gave me quote for $226 (for what I am still not sure), which I asked him to itemize. After struggling for a bit to get him to itemize it, he broke it down into two prices of $79 and $158; what these were for I, again, could not get him to state clearly. It seemed, however, that this was the price for the changing of the pads, plus some accessorial work to brake area, such as flushing the system. I told him that I would call him back to consult the price with someone who knows how much these things should cost and, after they agreed that that was a fair price, I called him back intending to approve the job.
Before I approved the job (which he prompted me to do several times eliciting as it would in anybody a certain amount of suspicion), I asked him for a total of the cost (I had to ask twice) and suddenly it had been raised to $507. I became frustrated with what seemed to me a willful act of miscommunication and told him to stop working on the car, even though he had suggested that I would not be able to drive it off. Following the earlier confusion, I of course did not believe this and promptly went to pick up my car. But when billed I saw that, on top of the brake check, I had been charged for the removal of wheel locks from three wheels, totaling at $99.35. Not only had this price not been explained to me, he then suggested that I had a problem understanding, comparing me to his children.
Now, when I came in, he oddly asked me if I was a student, perhaps believing that a student would be more susceptible to bullying from a supposed specialist, and indeed although I am a student, I am a graduate student and teacher at Yale University in English Language and Literature. In other words, I feel that my skills for expressing myself and understanding others are quite strong. Furthermore, I have never had this sort of problem with my regular mechanic (whom in retrospect I should have gone to in the first place but, like I said, I was giving Midas a chance).
When basically telling him that his assessment of my ability to understand was **, he told me to go ** myself, and gave me a complaint number along with what seemed to be a threat if I contacted them, see what happens. Obviously, Midas has my address and personal information on file so I have particular cause to be nervous in filing this complaint (even though, I should add, my name was misspelled even though I had spelled it aloud begging the question of who was having the problem understanding) but it is necessary that I do so because, when calling the customer hotline, I hit another brick wall. Rob, whom I spoke with there, acted surprised to hear a complaint from the Hamden location, even though after looking online I see every consumer awareness site (City Search, Yelp, Google Reviews, Yahoo Reviews, Consumer Affairs) has complaints for this particular Midas shop.
But, since I was not only complaining about the willful miscommunication and the caustic and threatening environment of service, my car was also now making a strange squeak on the front right tire which was not there before, plus was swerving to that right side as if the alignment had been messed up, I was offered to take it for another brake inspection to a nearby Midas shop. Not, I should emphasize, to fix the problem which Midas service had created, but simply to do what I had already done all over again. Reading the reviews for other Midas shops in the area, there is no way that I am going to take my car to another shop (as the kinds of problems that I am complaining about here are evidently systemic to the entire company). I asked Rob if I could have my money back and he flatly refused, saying I had work done on my car and that was that. The notion of a (dis) satisfied customer was not at all at play in our conversation.
Moreover, I was not even given the discount from the coupon which brought me to try Midas out in the first place. That coupon was kept by the store and I was left with a $99.35 bill for leaving my car with more problems than when I brought it in. The least Midas could do would be to refund what money I paid to be poorly serviced. Trying Midas out was, I reiterate, a serious error of judgment. I will be taking the car to its regular (reliable) mechanic this week and will recommend them to anybody that asks. Their garage is quite full (I will happily wait the few days to bring the car in) while Midas looked pretty empty. Can Midas really afford to be losing customers like this?

My husband agreed as well.
I took the car to a Midas Shop near my home to have it looked at. They said that the back brakes needed to be adjusted and that the front brakes were gone. It took them over 40 minutes to remove the front wheels so the Brookline shop had not even looked at the front brakes. This made me mad. They had put me and those around me at risk. I had the second shop repair the brakes and has not been an issue since.

Now recently, the front driver strut is doing what the passenger front passenger strut, which was really replaced. Maybe initially, I never needed new struts and there is a front suspension problem. I don't want to be paying anymore out for labor in replacing the front driver strut as I feel it strange the 2 struts failed. First visit cost me a total of $693 and 2nd visit $142 for labor. Fifteen days after this horrible incident, I am still waiting for my rim to be placed on my tire. Instead of offering to expedite the shipping of the rim, the manager informs me that it will take another week to receive the rim. This is clearly not an example of excellent customer service nor is it a way to treat a customer who has been extremely patient, giving Midas more than enough time to fix this issue. The customer gets nothing in return, except for delayed service to provide her with the parts that she lost due to an employee of this location failing to correctly complete a tire rotation.
I would feel totally different if the manager/owner of this shop would've compensated me for my troubles and for the inconvenience. Because of this issue, I had to get a towing company to temporarily fix my car; I missed a full day of work (monetary loss) because I had to travel to Midas in Baltimore, MD to get my car fixed; and I had to drive back and forth to the Manassas, VA location to try to fix this issue.
This is not excellent, good, or okay customer service at all.

On September 6, 2011, I took my car to Midas at 1769 SW Loop, 410 in San Antonio, Texas to get my reservoir replaced. I left the car there and then the mechanics called me and told me I also needed a tune-up. I said okay and go ahead and do it. I went back for my car a few hours later and the bill was $718. I thought it was high but I was assured that the car was fixed professionally.
On September 9, 2011, I went to drop off my son and got off my car to walk him to the classroom. As I was inside the classroom they came to tell me my car was burning and I needed to move it away from the school. I was petrified and panic-stricken to think what if my son had been in the car with me when this was happening. My son is five years old and is a special child (autistic child). The firefighters and police arrived and made a police report on the incident. I had never had any problems with the car before I took it to Midas. I went to talk to the manager and told him what had happened and his response was, "How do you know it was something we did?". My response was, "Just send your insurance to check what the problem was". He said, "I am not going to do that. I will send my mechanic when I have time".
They finally send a mechanic on September 16, 2011. The mechanic said they couldn't see anything because it was utterly burned. I spoke to the owner and he said there was nothing they can do for me because it was completely burned. All I want is for them to take responsibility for the damage. I am a single dad raising a special son who requires special attention. It is the only form of transportation I have and I don't have the money to buy a new car. Please help me find a solution.

I am writing this letter because on September 12, 2011, around 2:20 pm, on my way home from work, my front exhaust pipe separated from the catalytic converter and drop to the ground. I was blessed to have been block from my home when this happened and able to pull to the curb. I then called AAA for a tow to the nearest repair shop, Midas Muffler & Brakes located at ** for repair.
The mechanic looked at the damage and determined that it needed a front pipe and new catalytic converter. Mr. Bob **, the store manager informed me that the total cost would be $798.86 (Catalytic Converter $359.95, Front Pipe $239.95, Labor, $134.00, Stock Fee $5.99 and Taxes $59.07). Mr. ** said that the parts are new. I then stepped outside and called Murrays Auto Parts and they gave me a quote for the same parts, half the cost of what he was charging. I shared that with Mr. ** and he insisted that the quote of $165.00 for the catalytic converter was not the original part for my car, but a universal part and that they do not install catalytic converter universal parts.
Fine, I okayed the work and when the parts arrived at the shop I inspected them and became very angry and upset. Both the catalytic converter and front pipe were obviously not new and I told him that, he insisted that they were. Both parts showed obvious signs of wear with rust particles in the pipe and scratches and discoloration. Mr. ** explained that away by staying that this occurs when they hang in the store for a long period of time. I didn't buy it and took pictures with my cell phone.
Further, I asked Mr. ** to let me see his order receipt for my parts to prove that they were in fact new, and not remanufactured and brought from a junkyard and to verify the cost of each. He refused and I suspect the reason why because I would see where the parts came from and the true amount paid.
In closing, Midas Service pledge is "We will always do what's right by you and your car." Well, I've had work done at several different Midas Shops over the years, and all most of my experiences have been horrible ones, in which deception and overcharging for work seems to be the common practice. That said, I will never go back to Midas again.
Moreover, any assistance you can afford me and the thousands of other consumers who have been taken by Midas would be so very appreciative. The majority of consumers feel that they can't do anything about it, but I will stand and speak out for the many who have been lied to and cheated by Midas service shops. Midas shops and their practices should be investigated, as I know that there are many others who have been sold parts under false pretense. Thank you and I look for a favorable response.

On August 18th 2011, I brought my vehicle, Volkswagen Passat, to Midas Auto Service expert and informed Peter, the proprietor, that my car was over-heating. Shortly thereafter, the proprietor informed me that I had a leaking head gasket and was leaking into the coolant system and turning into sludge. He proceeded to explain the nature of the repair and quoted a price of $1,500.00 to me.
To my surprise, I did not get my vehicle back until August 31st 2011 with grease all over the body of the car. In addition to the long repair period, I was informed that my bill was $2,254.44 for items like multiple oil changes because of his poor workmanship, $50.00 for gas so that he could test drive my car for over 100 miles to see if it was running properly and a few others extras, all of which I never authorized. I was uneasy about the extra charges and after some protest, I paid $2000.00 and exited the establishment.
The next morning, I noticed fresh oil in my driveway and became alarmed. So the next evening, I placed a clean piece of cardboard under my car to confirm the leak and promptly called the next day to express my outrage at the time and expense of the repair without a remedy. The proprietor invited me to bring the car back in and I agreed to that and made a date for September 8th due to my heavy schedule, however before that date arrived, the car stalled on me in traffic. I called the proprietor immediately to express my outrage and informed him that AAA would be bringing the car back to him for a resolution.
My car was returned to him on September 7th. I called on the 7th and 8th without anyone at the business answering the phone. So I came to the business on the 12th to find the proprietor and two of his employees looking over the engine with a schematic drawing trying to figure out what to do. It was clear that they were not familiar with the engine and should not have attempted the repair.
When I questioned about when he might have the car ready, he could not give an answer and stated that he was seeking guidance from local Volkswagen dealership. At this point, I explained that I did not have confidence in his ability to complete the work and would be having the car towed to the VW dealer in Linden NJ.

After paying them, I called five other Midas shops and was told that the price was $250-$300 and that it was a 15-20 minute job. I own a 1995 Chevy Van. My brakes went out on 8/27/11, and I had my van towed to Midas on 8/28/11. On 8/29/1, the following Monday, Midas looked at my van later on that day, and Midas called my boyfriend Darius with an outrageous quote of $880 dollars. Danny, the supervisor at Midas, said that I needed back brake shoes, rear wheel cylinders, and also rear brake drums, so my boyfriend said, "That sounds very high for those parts." I understand the markup because Midas is a car care center. "That price sounds very high," my boyfriend told Danny. I would have to think about it because that was a very high price.
So, on Tuesday 8/30/11, Danny started to lower the price. Later that evening, Danny gave my boyfriend Darius a final price of $600, so my boyfriend said tell him to do the work on 8/31/11 which was on a Wednesday. My boyfriend went up to Midas to get the van. My boyfriend had a coupon so it took $50 more dollars off the price which now came to $550. Upon leaving the Midas parking lot, turning on to the very busy route 355 N, Frederick Ave in Germantown, my boyfriend noticed that the brake pedal was going all the way to the floor. The van was having a hard time stopping so my boyfriend immediately called Richard at the time.
Richard was the manager on duty but Danny was also there. Richard then stated to my boyfriend Darius to come back in an hour. Darius stated to Richard that he was less than a block away and the brake pedal was going to the floor and the van was having a hard time stopping. Darius turned around and waited the hour for an open bay.
After an hour, Richard took the van into the open bay and stated that the Master Cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. Richard told Darius that he would have to get a price on the Master Cylinder so he had to wait a second. Darius asked Richard if the van was test driven and why this problem was not discovered before both managers Richard and Danny called multiple times to come and pick the van up. Richard came back and stated that a new Master Cylinder parts and labor would be an additional $400. I felt like the mechanic never test drove the van because if they did they would have known that the van didn't have any breaks before returning it to me.

Experience with Midas: Very bad service and irresponsible behavior.
On 8/25/2011 at 9.30 AM, I went to Midas Auto Service PA 19406 for oil change and brake checking. It took around 30-35 minutes and they gave me the courtesy inspection paper. The technician noted 3 things to be taken care of in car like transmission flush, needs front brakes and needs new lugs. Later on, I noticed that the technician forgot to sign on the paper. A day after, the car started tapping and stopped on the road while my husband was driving the car. The car smelled burning with white smoke. Somehow, he managed to pull the car. He opened the car and was surprised because the oil filter cap was opened and sitting down, oil spills all around engine.
He waited there for 2 hours to tow the car back home as Midas was closed at that time. On Monday (08/29/2011), I talked to the manager. He was rude and did not even apologize. He offered me towing service to bring the car to Midas. I refused to trust them and decided to go there with the car to know the damage and problem with the car because of their mistake. On Tuesday (08/30/2011), I went there at 9.15 AM. Being told that the manager was off today, but the assistant manager Brian will take care of the situation.
I waited there for 1 hour in front of the car to see what's going on now and what they were examining. I sense some serious internal damage to the car, as everybody was looking tense. After 1 hour, the manager told me that the oil filter blew off. When I asked the reason, he replied he doesn't know. The assistant manager arranged a rental car. He told me that he will take care of the car, the situation and will call me in the next morning. On the next day, I waited for a call but nobody called me. So I called in the afternoon. The manager told me that the car engine failed. He said that Midas will repair the car and bare all expenses for the same damage.

Since I live two doors down from this site and drive by it every day, it is a real eyesore. And it brings unsavory people into our neighborhood. Some of them are loitering there during the day and sleeping overnight. Alcohol and drug use are a common occurrence there. I've contacted the police about this. They have, occasionally, made efforts to stop people from sleeping there. But they can't do anything about the trash and the graffiti. And I still see people sleeping there at times. I don't think I should have to call the police every night. I urge you to take care of this matter as quickly as possible. And I urge you to take appropriate action to see that this problem doesn't re-occur in the future.

I was vacationing in Missouri, visiting family, and noticed some shaking and rattling in the front end. I took it to Midas, where I spoke with Jesse (service manager), and he told me that after someone looked at it, I would be called. A few hours went by and I received a call from Jesse. He told me that the rotors and the control bar needed to be replaced, as those 2 things control the steering on my vehicle. The price quoted to me was $1,300. I agreed. I was then told that it would be about 4 hours and that I would be called when my car was ready.
About 2.5 hours later, Jesse calls me again to say that when they were taking the front end apart, the ball bearings fell and needed to be replaced. Because of the size of that piece on my car, it would need to be sent out to a machine shop. I asked if that would be done that same day (Thursday) or if it would go to the shop on Friday. I was told that my car would go on Friday morning and that I would be notified before it left. I said ok.
On Friday morning I wait until about 12 noon to call them since I had not received a call. I spoke to a young lady named Lauren who told me that my car is already gone and that it had been at the shop since Thursday night. I informed her that I was told by Jesse that I would be called before my car left. She tells me she is not sure about that. I then ask her about the price. She tells me that she is not able to give me a price until it comes back from the machine shop. With an attitude, I tell her fine and hung up.
She calls me back 2 hours later and tells me that the total price, including the machine shop, is $2,085.37. I asked her how the price almost doubled in less than 24 hours. She replied that she does not know what I am talking about. I asked her to break down the price for me. She told me $1,865.37 for the repair work and $220.00 for the machine shop. I ask her what the $1,865.37 for since the original price that I agreed to when I spoke with the service manager was $1,300. She told me that all she sees is that Jesse put down that I agreed to $1,865.37. I told her that is incorrect and that I need to speak with her manager. She informed me that he is off today (Friday), so I asked for his manager. She laughed and gave me the name Brian ** and his contact number. I hung up and called him.
There was no response so I left a message. He called back and I described the situation to him. He asked me if I was aware that when I was told that my car had to go to a different place that I knew there was going to be a cost. I said yes and that was not what I was disputing. I was disputing the fact of the matter that the original estimate that I was given was $1,300 and then the staff was told to charge me an additional $585.37. He says that Jesse is off today and that he will need to speak with him before anything can be done. I continued to tell him that price gouging is wrong and that if I agreed to $1300, why am I being charged and additional $585.37? He is beginning to talk over me on the phone and tell me that I knew that there would be additional costs and that all he can do is credit the amount of the machine shop which was $220. I agreed to that.
It's pouring down rain when my mother and I go to pick up my car. She tells me that she wants to drive it to make sure that they fixed the items that were broken. We returned to her home. The car sat in the driveway until Saturday afternoon when I packed it so that my 3 children and I could make the drive back to Maryland. We, my 3 children & I, left the state of Missouri at 10:00 PM Saturday night.
As I get on the highway, I noticed a slight shaking in the steering wheel. I assumed it may be a wheel alignment and continued to drive home. The more I drive on the highway, the more violent the shaking becomes and a loud knocking noise begins. I crossed the border into Indiana and once in Terre Haute, the shaking in my vehicle was so bad that I cannot drive any faster than 45 mph. It was already 2:00 AM and I called my mother and explained the situation to her. She told me to call my cousin, who knows about cars. I called him and explained to him what has happened. He told me that I am going to have to try my best to get back to Missouri because Midas either broke something or did not fix something correctly.
I bought gas and got back on the highway. I make it maybe 1 mile from the gas station on the highway, driving 45 mph, when something broke. The back end of my vehicle started fishtailing and I was trying to get control of my car. After 1 minute or so, I was able to get control and pull onto the shoulder of Highway 70. I called my mother again and let her know what has transpired. She told me that she is on her way to meet us and to try and find a tow service to tow the vehicle back to Arnold, Missouri. I then called the police department as there were no lights on the highway and we were in a dangerous spot on the shoulder. The dispatcher gets all of my information and sent an officer out to help me.
About 35 minutes later, an officer arrived and asked what the problem was. I explained to him about getting my car fixed at Midas in Missouri and that now something has just broken and that the car makes a loud grinding noise and shakes violently when driven. He asks me to start the car and drive forward a few feet so that he can hear the noise. I complied. He then yells for me to stop the car. Once stopped and the engine is off, he walks up to the passenger window and says "Well, I see what the problem is. Your back wheel is about to fall off." I get out and he showed me.
The back passenger wheel is tilting out. The bottom half is in and the top half is leaning out. He asks me if there is a jack in the car so that we can lift the vehicle and put a lug nut on from another wheel. I looked frantically in the back for the jack and after about 10 minutes, I found it. The officer asks if I have money on me because he will see if he can get another officer to go to the local Walmart and buy a set of lug nuts to put on. At the same time he is lifting the car, the other officer pulls up. He looks at the other wheels and takes a lug nut off the back driver side and places it on the back passenger wheel.
Once they are finished, the officer hands me the broken lug nut that is partially attached to the front part of the stud that broke off and almost caused a fatal accident. I ask him if he can write up something so that when I contact the shop, I can let them know which officer came out to help me. He gives me a business card. His final piece of advice to me is not to drive any faster than 50 mph. Because the remaining 2 lug nut/studs have been weakened by the vibration and shaking and could potentially fall off down the road if I drive any faster.
I placed a call to Brian ** before I got home to let him know that there was a problem and that I will be returning my vehicle to his Arnold store for them to fix. It takes me 5 hours to get back to Missouri, at which point I have to sit around because Midas is not open on Sundays. I take my car back to Midas at 8:00 AM Monday morning. I asked for the regional manager's name and number and I am told that if I have a problem, I have to speak with Brian. I said ok. I describe what the problem is and that my car needs to be repaired. Jesse tells me that they will fix it but he is unsure why the problem occurred because they only fixed the front end. I tell him that they charged me for 4 rotors so that would be why they were working on my back end. I also tell him that I need a ride back to my mother's residence.
Once I returned to my mother's home, I called Brian again and explained that my car is at the Arnold location and what happened. He tells me that he is on his way to the Arnold location and that after he gets there he will look at it call me back. I asked him since all this occurred, what is Midas prepared to do for me since their lack of attention almost got my children & I killed. Brian informs me that he will have to discuss things with his bosses and he will get back to me.
About 4 hours go by when I get a call from Jesse and he tells me that my car is ready. He tells me that he test drove it and that all the issues have been resolved. He also tells me that he sent out an email and the response that he received was to give me a refund of $250. I asked him if I heard him correctly and repeated back everything that he said to me about all the issues being fixed and that he was only authorized to offer me a refund of $250. His response was yes. I told him that was not good enough. He informs me that he can only do what he is authorized to do and nothing more and that if I have a problem, I will need to call Brian again. So I did.
When I call Brian, he is already on the defensive with me. I tell him that I spoke with Jesse and that he was only authorized to refund me $250. He says that is correct and the reason why is because when they pulled my car into the shop, it came in with the emergency brake on. I told him then one of his employees drove it into the shop that way. Yes, I did put it on when I parked, but I parked on the side of the building. So that means that someone working there was not paying attention and drove with the emergency brake on when they drove it into the bay to be looked at. He tells me that they would not do that. I tell inform him that $250 is not good enough because my life and the lives of my children were placed at risk because my car was not put back together correctly. If I had been driving any faster, we could have been killed. Secondly I have missed 2 days of work, my children have missed 2 days of school and my time and money have been wasted by this whole ordeal. He told me that’s the best he can do. I hung up on him and call the regional manager Darrell **.
Once on the phone with Mr. **, I explained who I am and why I am calling and asked him for his help. He informs me that all he can do is listen and offer me advice since most Midas locations are franchises and that Brian ** is the owner of that particular location. I explain the situation to him beginning with the almost double the price in the beginning to the ending of my car not be put together correctly and almost resulting in a catastrophic event. He apologizes for the events that took place and informs me that I will have to work it out with the local manager because that location is a franchise. He also instructs me to contact Midas' customer relation department and explain to them what happened and what I want and maybe they will be able to help me.
This entire experience was a nightmare and I will never trust another Midas location. I and my 3 children were almost killed and all Midas offered me was a $250 refund.

The mechanic said that it was only diagnosed and he asked, “Do you still want us to do the job?” I told him that the price wasn't right. It’s only a 1993 Toyota Corolla. He said, “That’s the price.” So, I told him, “Please, put the car back in the parking lot”, and that I would have the car towed to somewhere else.
After I got off the phone with Midas, I called RS Strauss located in Toms River. I was quoted $400.00 for the same job—parts, labor and period. Five minutes later, I got a call from the owner of Bayville Midas, and I was told that there was a mistake on the quote. The $700.00 price was for an overhaul price, and that it would cost me $399. So, I said, “Do the job. My wife and I would pick the car later in the afternoon. Thank you Ed.” Well, when my wife went to pay for the work performed on the vehicle, she was charged $608.12. That's not $399.00. This is not the only time this garage has pulled a stunt on us in the past, shame on them. I had called Ed and spoken to him. OK… This is for all you single women out there, who are responsible for the care of your cars…
Be careful about where you take your car for oil change/tire rotation. I usually take mine to a Toyota dealership, but had a coupon for $25 for oil/tires at Midas, and it was closer. So, I decided to chance it to save gas on traveling plus cost of the service.
I gave them the coupon first (mistake). They changed the oil, then came in and said they couldn't do the rotation because the tires were too badly worn. I told the guy (an older guy), "That's funny, Toyota didn't warn me that they were getting worn when I had the oil changed 3,000 miles ago! I'll have to get them to look at them." Rather than make a scene (because I paid for both), I left. (Looking back, I shouldn't have produced the coupon until they'd done the work.)
Yesterday, I went out with a penny and a camera to take pictures of all 4 tires. I was going to send them to my son, who wants to take a trip with me. I wanted his opinion on the condition of my tires. While I was doing this, my neighbors Larry and Sue, who were out on their patio, were observing the contortions I was in to take the pictures and measure the tread. Larry asked what I was doing. Then he got his gauge and measured the tread on each tire. Turns out, they are all about 1/2 of the original wear and are about 3 mm! (New tires typically have 6mm of tread. Guess what tool is going to be added to my glove box?)
There was no legitimate reason for the guy at Midas to refuse to rotate my tires!
So, today I took my car back to Midas along with my receipt that I paid for both services, but only got the oil change. I wasn't angry, just firm. I told the lady (she and her husband own the franchise) that I paid for the oil change and tire rotation, but was told the tires were too worn to be rotated. Then I told her that I had the tread measured, and they are all at or above 3 mm of tread. I then asked that they switch out only the driver's side tires (another friend noticed that even though they are all marked as though they are the same tires, 2 of them have 4 ply tread, and 2 have 3 ply tread). The 3 ply tread were on opposite corners of the car – L Rear and R Front. So, I moved the L Rear to the L Front and it is now the same as the R Front (I have FWD so also another reason to have the wider tread on the front).
The lady behind the desk wrote up the work order. I signed it (no charge) and I took a seat while she took the order on her trusty little clipboard out to the garage. (I noticed as I was taking a seat that none of the seats are positioned so that you can watch what is going on in the shop. I turned my chair to face the window out to the garage and sat down.) What did they do next? They pulled my car into the farthest garage bay and put it up on the lift, so it was virtually impossible for me to see what they were doing from the waiting area! At this point (it is over 90 degrees outside today), they were banking that I would stay in the waiting area where it is air-conditioned. But I thought, no! I got up and went outside, walked down to that bay and stood in the doorway to watch. They'd given the work order to the same mechanic who'd refused to do the rotation on my first visit (he was pissed). I watched as he switched the 2 tires and I thanked him when he finished. But, he then proceeded to put my car down, without checking the tire pressures! So, I politely called him by name and said, "Tom, would you mind please checking the air pressure in all 4 tires?" He said "Ok. What do you want them set at?" I said, "35 psi, please". He went through the motions of checking them, but didn't add air to any of them. So, I'm suspicious of that. I don't know if I've ever checked the air pressure and had all 4 tires exactly the same!
So, ladies, if you are the one solely responsible for the care/maintenance of your car, I urge you to be assertive and not let them get away with anything fishy. From my own one experience, I do not recommend Midas! I plan on writing corporate with my story. We'll see what happens (if anything).

I went in for $19.99 oil change which was advertised. I spoke with a fat boy who said "oh no, that's a range rover, it will be $79.00," I said that it does take the same amount of oil and he said that it takes about 7-8 quarts of oil. I said that I had the oil changed in November at STS and it wasn't that much. I left and went somewhere else and it was changed for $29.99 and 6 quarts of oil was put in my range rover.

A simple oil change was screw up! I went in and was told my car needed extra oil, I paid the extra too. This was on Saturday, by Monday by car was jerking and smoking. Turns out oil was spilled all over the engine, etc causing it to smoke. The jerking was caused by too little oil in my car, less than 1 pint. My car needs at least 3 pints. Then they gave me an estimate totaling 1991.11 and when I got another opinion the issue was not even a problem. My engine could have locked up over a simple oil change!

I went in to Midas on 5/30/11 because my check engine light was on. I spoke with Vincent (well that is the name he wrote on the paper that he gave me). I told him what the problem was and he told me that he had to do a diagnostic test to find out what was wrong with the car and it will cost me $89.00. But if I have the service done, $89.00 will be taken off the price. So I agreed. He then told me that I need a tune up and it was going to be a 2 hour job because of the engine in the Mitsubishi Diamant has to be removed to get to the spark plugs.
So I ask him was that all that was wrong with the car (my reason was I has just brought the car from Beach Cars and if it was any things serious, I was going to take it back). His answer to my question was no, I had got a good deal after he ask me what I paid for the car and I told him (still with the paper tag on the car). He could not do the work that day because it was late. So I told him that I could bring it in on 6/7/11 at 3:00 after work, he agreed. The service was done on that day, (so I thought) after he finished I had a few stops to make and on my way back home, the check engine light came back on again. I called the store but it was closed.
I called the next morning and spoke with someone else. I told him what my problem was and he told me, that Vincent said that he would start off with a tune up and work until they find out what the real problem was. I told him he was not there when I spoke with Vincent and that it is not what was said. Also, I had a diagnostic done. So he said, “Oh, he misunderstood me for me to bring it back in and they will look at it.” I did and again I set for 2 more hours. He came out to give me a class on what could be wrong. This time, I am not feeling what he is saying so I took it to Pep Boys on 800 N Military Trail Golfview, Fl 33415, phone 561-686-3004.
I had to pay another diagnostic test $89.00 and they said I need a tune up and my spark plugs need to be change. I told them I just had it done by Midas. He took out 3 and said no, it could not have been. They are too old. I was going to have Pep Boys do the work. But I call Midas and they told me that they wanted to see the car and paperwork because they could not find me in the computer and they were not going to give me any money back until then. I went and got in a shouting match with the manager, which I was asked to leave the store, so I did.

My mom advised me to have a guy at Midas work on the car. It was probably the next day when I was told that a lot of electrical wires would have to be replaced. Since March 27th I have been told just about every week that the car would be ready or that it is up and running. Then when it comes to me actually having the car in my possession there is always something else that needs to be dealt with. I have been told over and over that the electrical work still needs work. This has been the most stressful period in my life. I’m a hard working single mother and I work full time. Everyday is a struggle to get back and forth to work. I work at LAX airport and I get off at 11 pm. Most of the time I’m forced to take public transportation, which is an inconvenience and a big risk. It’s not safe at all. I’ve been a witness to that numerous of times. I’m on my own and don’t have people to depend on to get me and my two year-old daughter to the places we need to go. I’ve had to cancel appointments, important job interviews all because I don’t have a working vehicle. I feel like I’m being taken advantage of because the truth is I don’t know what’s going on with my car. And not to mention I can hardly get in contact with the guy working on it. He barely returns call or answers the phone.
If he couldn’t fix the car, he should have never taken on the responsibility. Most of all, I feel Midas is putting my car in worse shape than when it started. It’s bad business to tell someone every week that their car is going to be ready, then it’s a slap in the face when it’s really not. Like I said before, no job should take almost three months. I just want my car released with out charge. I just want to get rid of this big burden that has taken over my life. Once again March 27th to now.

On May 28, 2010, I stopped by Midas due to an ad with a deal on an oil change for $19.00 which included a free brake inspection. I left my car for the service and I received a call stating that my front brakes needed to be replaced and some other stuff about brakes. The service personnel, Richard, asked me if I wanted to get the work done. I said yes and I authorized the brake service with my last 4 digits of my Social Security Number.
I picked my car up after work. All seem fine but before the weekend was over, I started to hear a loud squeaking noise. So, approximately on June 1, 2010, I went back to the shop and talked to the manager at the time, Rick ** and he told me that he would have a mechanic take them apart and see if he could determine what was the problem. I went back after work to pick-up my car and I was told that they cleaned dirt from the brakes and everything should be fine. I took the car and I drove for about another couple of days and brought it back stating the same problem.
They said that they would look at it again so I sat and waited for the work to be completed. I was told that they didn't see anything wrong but they would change the brakes with a new set. I brought the car back a couple of times with the same complaint. Then, I asked if they could take it out with me inside so that they could hear what the car was doing. On that day, the mechanic drove the car and we couldn't hear the noise so the mechanic asked me to leave it and he would take a look again.
When I got it back, he said that he couldn't find anything wrong but he cleaned off some dirt. I left and before I could get home, it started doing it again. So, I took it back a week or so later and told the now new manager that it was still making that noise. I needed my car to be fixed because it was not making this noise prior to the initial replacement of the brakes in May, 2010.
So, I asked if they would send a mechanic with me again to try and hear the noise, but this time, I drove. We were able to hear the noise very loud and clear. I asked the mechanic what the noise was and he said that he didn't know what it was but bring it back the next day as it was late in the afternoon. On 2/18/11, I brought the car in and when I picked it up, they said that they could not find anything but they greased something that has to do with the brakes.
I left and I didn't even make it home before I heard that noise again. That was the last straw. I can't keep going back there without anything being resolved. I feel that my brakes were not making that noise prior to 5/28/10. So what happened? No one has a clue about what the noise is. I feel that if they don't have the right technicians to do the work, they shouldn't offer the service.

I took my vehicle in for brake pads, asked for an estimate first. They had me write my first name and phone number on a sticky note. I was called that evening at closing and told it would be $479.00. I inquired as to why it would be so much, as it should cost no more than $185.00. They said they have to replace the rotors, drums and pads. My brother-in-law, a mechanic, had already looked at it and said it just needed front pads. I told them I was a single mother and didn't have that kind of money, but would see what I could do. I was informed it was no problem. They would be glad to keep it safe until I could get the money.
I called them the next day to inform them I was still working on trying to get the money and I would just have to pick up the car until I could get the money. I was told it was no problem for them to keep it there and they would lock it inside the bay at night, so it would be safe. I contacted them every few days to update and was told every time that it was no problem and the car was safe. I went to get the car after about 10 days, because I had not been able to get the money together, yet. They kept my car locked inside day and night, so I couldn't go get it. I live down the street, so drove by there every day. I was then told that I owed them $350.00 for storage fees, plus $478.00 for repairs. I never authorized any repairs and was never told I would be charged for storage.
I had been very ill, so I was sent to the Mayo clinic. I was then told that they sold my car for the storage fees and repairs. I had several very important things in my car, as well. First, I was told they had them stored upstairs, then I was told they threw them in the trash. Those items included, passports for my entire family of 7, birth certificates for all 7, social security cards for all 7, immunization cards for all 7, as well as 3 boxes of legal documents, some clothes and a hand-made family wedding gown. The fact is, they never sold my car, they kept it for themselves. It is still sitting at their shop today! They have since, tagged it and transferred the title. I asked many times to speak to the owner and was told he would call me, but never did. I also had an attorney call them several times and the owner would never return his calls either.
This is a very unethical way to conduct business and is against the law. I am preparing to file a law suit, but don't have the money to do so. This type of business needs to be stopped. I am a single mother, who is sick, and they have taken full advantage of that.

I went in for a routine emissions and safety inspection. I left the car there, and went to work for the day. The auto mechanic called me and told me I needed $600 worth of work done on my brakes, and that my rotors needed to be replaced. I was confused, because during my inspection the year before (at another Midas location in the area), they did work on my brakes. It seemed odd that I needed brake work done in one calendar year. When I told that to the auto mechanic he said "oh, we don't share systems, so I'll log on to our server to see the work you had done last year".
All of a sudden he sounded nervous, and said he needed to look at the car again, and call me back. At that point, I told him not to touch the brakes. Only do the inspection, and that I'd have another mechanic give me a second opinion, since I didn't have that much money to pay for brakes. I picked the car up after work, and before I got to the first traffic light, I heard a grinding sound. Metal on metal every time I hit the brakes. Angered and confused, I called the Midas back, and asked to speak to the person who worked on my car. I asked the auto mechanic why my car was making that grinding noise. When I dropped it off earlier it wasn't making any sounds.
Yes, I may have needed brake work done, but it seemed a bit suspicious. The auto mechanic refused to talk to me, and said that my brakes were low, and that I should have gotten them repaired there. I immediately took the car to a mechanic about one mile away. ,They looked at the car two days later, and said my brakes weren't that bad, and that they could re-purpose my rotors, and get me going for $200! In addition, they told me I had a huge oil leak with only 0.5 quart in my engine, and that they didn't put the O-ring back on with the new filter. I contacted the manager about my complaints, and was brushed off, and told to call the owner.
There is some serious fraud going on at this Midas location. My entire engine would have been damaged, if I didn't have someone else check everything. It is not fair for businesses to take advantage of customers, so we get caught up in a web of auto "repairs". I would have gone back to them with engine issues, and they would have quoted me more for their mistake. Please beware of this Midas location.

I questioned the difference in cost between 2003 and 2010, and was given some excuse about non-incidental things. I understand this is a franchise, but come on, 300%? Labor went up over 400%! I immediately went to Sears a few miles away and got a quote for the same work (a brand new muffler and tail pipe, no warranty work involved) and it was $127.00. I think I will quit supporting Midas and will consider shopping around. I always felt Midas was doing right by the customer, but somewhere along the line, they've lost the edge of recognizing the value of a loyal/return customer and traded it for the big buck (or our AG's complaint against them have them rushing to make up the money lost in lawsuit/legal wrangling).
Maybe they're losing money on the warranty work? Well, they can keep their product and gouging the customer. I'm shopping around from now on because we have 4 other vehicles in the family. I'm not wasting my time with Midas. It's apparent they are no longer in the business of building a repeat customer base. I no longer feel loyal to their product. Obviously, it doesn’t matter to them whether I purchase their product, or they'd try harder to keep the business, which at this rate is doomed to fail.

My complaint is mostly because I know Midas stiffed me. I went in to get my car checked because it was acting funny. They checked the car and informed me that it would be a $20 fee to check what was wrong with the car. After getting back with me, I was told that my alternator was bad and would need to be replaced. They gave me a high and ridiculous price in order to replace my alternator. Midas said it would be $429.37 to replace an alternator into a 1998 Ford Contour. Plus another $115.81 for labor.
I could not believe what I heard so I called a close friend who is also a mechanic (but lives about an hour away from me). When I told him what they were charging for the alternator, he was very surprised. So I paid my $20 fee, and when ended up having to get my car towed back to my house. When I came home, I did research on how much an alternator would be for a 1998 Ford Contour with a 4-121 2.0L Engine, and the highest price I found was $135.
I feel as if I wasted my time getting my car checked. I wasted $20 just to be told that my alternator was bad and not to mention the trouble of having my car towed back home.I am completely dissatisfied with Midas and do not recommend this place to anyone who wants to get a fair deal on getting their car fixed.

The manager of Midas, Blvd 26, N. Richland Hills, TX, charged me about $400.00 for EVAP detection pump and labor. The labor was $98.00 to install. Installation time was about 20 minutes. I actually timed him. The difference was for the part which was about $245.00, taxes, and some in-house fee. In addition, I paid $68.00 for diagnosis, which should have been applied as credit if he did the job.
Well, I called around and found out that the dealer that’s a walking distance from his location sold the part for $149.00. Concerned, I contacted the manager why was he charging so much more for the part. He became very upset and was rude and hung up on me. He called in 5 minutes and apologized for his bad and rude behavior. I accepted his apology and decided to work with him. He told me to buy the part and he was going to install, but he did not want to give me my credit of $68.00 nor half of it.
He put in writing that he was going to give me my credit if he works on the car. I contacted his supervisor, believed to be the owner, and we both agreed that it was reasonable for me to have at least half of my credit back. If the engine light came back on, he was going to continue to work on it as he said because he was very confident of the diagnosis. When it was time for me to leave, he became very upset and asked me never to return. He was upset because I did not let him make all that profit from doing a small job on my car. He said he was going to call the police if I return to have my car fixed even if the engine light came back on. This was the worst auto customer service I have ever had. The public needs to be made aware of Midas' rip-off policies.

I took my VW golf in for an exhaust check up (and most likely a new exhaust system), as my check engine light was coming on and the car was experiencing rough idling. I thought just running it up to Midas would be quick and easy. It was far from either. $2000 later, three times of hearing, "You're all ready to go sir! ", and now contemplating returning my car yet again as the check engine light is on, for the fourth time! (this will be the fourth time returning my car to them)...I'm at my wits end.
I will never recommend Midas to anyone. My friends and family are still wondering why I'm continuing to return the car. Simple. I want Midas accountable for fixing what they've promised me has been fixed three times already. I've already exceeded the cost of what bluebook of the car is. I am taking today to write reviews for this Midas location via my Blog, Facebook, Twitter, BBB, various automotive forums, and both Google and yahoo reviews. I truly expected a simple, hassle free process, this was not by far. I also recommend if a service location doesn't know how to work on German autos, they tell their customers they don't know how to work on German autos.

September of 2010, my girlfriend had her recently purchased 1994 Toyota Tercel brought into Midas for a full inspection, meaning everything. Her words to Midas were "Check everything." They changed her catalytic converter, flex pipe, and did an oil change. (Now keep in mind the oil change, because the oil filter is directly next to the radiator in this car.) A week later, she is driving down the highway and the car dies out. We had the car towed back to my house where I diagnosed it had a blown radiator due to the looks of it, plus coolant was leaking. I called Midas and talked to the manager whose name is Carlos. I asked how they did not catch this defect.
His response was, "My mechanics are only human." My jaw dropped. I asked him, "So why did she pay you if you didn’t do what was asked? The only thing your mechanic said he could not check were the brakes because you didn’t have a locking lug nut key. So how did you miss the radiator? You guys did an oil change, the oil filter is only 4 inches from the radiator, how did you miss it? Who is the mechanic, Hellen Keller?" He responded back with, "Maybe if people took better care of their cars, this wouldn’t happen." He offered absolutely no help whatsoever. I called the customer service department three times to figure out what was going on, and still have not heard back. It has been about 3 weeks, and I was originally informed I would receive a phone call back within a week.
I highly recommend not going to any Midas location. If they hire people that speak to customers the way Carlos did to me, I can only imagine who they have working in other locations.

I went to Midas to get my brake replaced and was given an estimate. I was told to come back after a couple of hours to pick to up the car. I went back a couple of hours and next thing I know, the manager told us that there's a ton of repairs needed on the car. The guy took me back to the garage where they do the repair and I saw my car taken apart in the front area. I didn't like what I saw. I got scared that if I didn't okay the things that they told me needed done, that my car won't work.
I know nothing about fixing cars, I trusted Midas that when I went there to get the brakes done, that would be it. The total charge ended up at $4,585.61. Please, if anyone can help me get reimbursed, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

He told me it would be $120 for them to install my own break parts and then he said he could not install the parts due to my right break caliper needs to be replaced. I ordered the caliper and I bought my car in but before I bought it in to be serviced he said it will cost $220 to add fix my rotors, pads, calipers and break pin sensors. I asked that he put all my old parts back in the boxes and I told him before he started to make sure that they put the right break fluid in my Mercedes MLK 430.
I should not have to educate them to tell them what needs to be done and lied to. Also come to find out, he need to change the sensor on both sides. So my break lights are still on. I asked him was everything okay and was it set to go. He said if they park the car then every thing is okay. My lights are still on. Prior to this incident, they repaired my back breaks and did not tighten the lugs. This is not good customer service and they did not give my old break pads so I could inspect them. I would like if you would respond back via email please.

On August 19, 2010, I rented a truck from my employer and went to Midas in Jackson Michigan for an oil change and was advised that the rear end should have new fluid and seal. I took their advice because we were traveling cross country to California from Michigan. At approximate 40 miles from Las Vegas, the rear end gears made a loud squealing noise and locked up. We were stranded on the interstate in 118 degree heat while I called the Midas office in Jackson who informed me that until the truck is evaluated by Midas in Las Vegas, he is not sure it is their responsibility.
I called tow truck and was charged $600.00 to tow truck into Midas Las Vegas on Tropicana Ave. After inspection of the truck and rear end, the chief mechanic (Randy) and the Operations Corporate person Mr. ** both concluded that it was their responsibility and that Midas was liable for the repair and that they would take care of the problem.
We delayed our trip two (2) days waiting for the truck repair. On the second day of waiting, a person by the name of Robert ** from Michigan Midas called and stated that he was going to make sure that we can continue with our trip and rented us a U-Haul truck, and he stated that for anything else, I should call their insurance company Harleyville and speak with Mr. Bruce **. We were also, informed from the Randy, Mr. ** and Mr. Robert that the replacement part would take one week to obtain.
We continued on our trip with the assurance and belief that what we were told by Mr. Robert, and Mr. ** would be true. While returning back on Monday in Nebraska, I received a call from Mr. ** stating that they had repaired the truck and it was ready for me to pick up. Upon arrival back home, I called the Harleyville insurance company and spoke with Mr. Bruce **. After answering multiple questions, he stated that when he spoke with the Jackson Michigan Midas, they told him that there was no leak when I drove off with the truck and that he is denying my claim for the reimbursement of money spent, vacation interruption, missed work, etc.

On Saturday of 9/18/10, I took my Chevy to this place to fix a stalling problem. They did a diagnostic test and they came up with some needed repairs. I contacted Midas and took the car on Monday. They said they needed some time so I left the car for one day and a second until Friday (5 days) and still they were not able to fix it. In the afternoon of 9/24/10, Jesse called me and said they might have found the problem, but it is an 80% chance that they could fix it and going to cost me around $500. I said, "No. I gave you enough time and you were not able to fix it and I do not want to spend more money". I asked them if they could return my money because they could not fix it from the beginning, Jesse said it's not going to happen. I went back and took my car. I have paid $317 and $106 for renting a car while my car was in the shop and I did not get any job done. I had to take my car to another shop and pay another amount to fix the same problem that Midas failed to perform. I need my total amount back and the amount of $106 renting a car.
