I purchased a KIA Sorento in September 2006. Last winter, I put my 4-wheel drive on to get out of snow. It would go out of 4 wheel drive so it had to be towed and I was without a car for a week. On October 12, 2010, my car stalled and the check engine light came on. I took it to a garage and was told it was the camshaft sensor. I called Kia and was told, “Too bad, your warranty was up September 30. Also, when it rain hard, I get water in the truck which I was also told, “Too bad, your warranty was up September 30.” I no longer have faith in my truck and I will never buy another Kia and I will make sure no one I know will buy Kia.
I have to pay for everything out of pocket. I broke down with a 6-week-old grandson in the truck. I have been crying for days trying to come up with the money to pay with no help from Kia.

I purchased a Kia Soul Ignition Special Edition 2. The window sticker stated that it should have the audio upgrade package (center speaker, a subwoofer, an external amplifier and the lighted speakers). The car does not have the lighted speakers or the hardware for it. When the VIN number on the car is accessed, the warranty validation screen shows that the vehicle should have AG for audio package and an Au for audio upgrade package, both installed at the factory level.
Mark states that there was an error and that a new window sticker should have been put on the vehicle. This problem is the dealer’s problem. When I contacted the dealer, they knew nothing about a "new" window sticker. Needless to say, this started in early August and I still do not have a resolution. Mark had offered to refund the amount of the audio package. The problem I have is that I purchased a vehicle with all the items on the window sticker and that is not what I received. I have questioned Kia customer care several times, read articles from Kia and car sites, and called other dealers. Everything I have read and have been told states that the Special Edition Soul is to have the lighted speakers. That is one of the gimmicks of the Special Edition. The dealer has been very co-operative.
I have had to take the vehicle to the dealer several times for pictures. I had a rental for almost a week. The rental had manual doors and windows, which would not have been a problem had I not been recovering from a shoulder surgery (left shoulder). I feel I paid for a vehicle and did not receive the vehicle I paid for.

I bought a 2010 Kia Soul in July 2010. Two and half months and less than 3,000 miles later, I get the notice about the speaker recall. The next day, my check engine light comes on. I call the dealership to set up an appointment to get both issues fixed, and I'm told that they no longer have service hours on Saturdays and that their business hours during the week are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. I told the service manager there was no possible way for me to bring the car in during those hours. I work full-time, and I cannot afford to take a day off to have my car fixed. I asked if there was any way for me to get a loaner car or have a rental paid for. I was told that I needed to "figure it out" and that this is the "real world."

Kia refuses to honor the warranty on my 2007 Kia Rondo which was less than 3 years old and had less than 46,000 miles on it when the problems occurred. On May 17, 2010, the car was dropped off at Covina Valley Kia for an oil change. Repair was also to be done to the front passenger arm rest because of a loud snapping noise it made whenever it was touched, and to have the air conditioner repaired because it had just begun blowing hot air at random intervals. The car was picked up that evening.
The oil change had been done, the replacement arm rest was in order, and we were told that the air conditioning was fixed by replacing the cabin air filter. May 18 and most of May 10 were too cool to use the air conditioning, but on the afternoon of May 19 it warmed up. I turned on the air conditioner and again it started blowing hot air after a few minutes of use. I called Covina Valley Kia on Thursday, May 20. I spoke with Jon ** and arranged to bring the car in to be repaired that evening. They had the car until the evening of Wednesday, May 26. When I picked it up, Jon ** told me that they had replaced the compressor assembly and an expansion valve. He stated the problem is fixed.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, I drove the car to Palm Springs. The air conditioning alternated between blowing cold air and extremely hot air. On Monday, June 1, I called and spoke with Jon ** again. I let him know the problem was not resolved and arranged to bring the car back for the third time on June 2. I received the car back on the evening of June 4 after Jon and his service technician informed me that it is normal behavior for the air conditioning to stop working when it is hot. I argued that this has not been the normal behavior for this vehicle in the 35 months I have owned it.
They refused to fix the problem. Immediately upon picking up the car on June 4, I called Kia Customer Care and spoke with Karen ** who opened case #**to address the issue. Since it was shortly after 5pm Pacific time, we agreed that a reasonable time for her to investigate the issue and provide a solution would be the following Tuesday, June 8. On Tuesday, June 8 at approximately 1:25pm I received a phone call from Karen. She informed me the dealership has not responded to her and that she would get an answer for me within another day. She did not call back.
Over the weekend of June 12-13, the air conditioning continued to blow hot air for several minutes at random intervals both Saturday and Sunday. I noted the engine temperature gauge was registering below the half way point each time the hot air would start to blow. I called Karen at approximately 6:15am Pacific time on Monday morning June 14 to find out the progress and to let her know I am very angry and want a resolution. She did not answer and I left a voice mail. Three hours later I have not received a return call and tried to call her again. The phone rang multiple times and then went to her voice mail. Rather than leave another voice mail, I pressed 0 and was connected to Robin.
I explained the situation and my frustration. She said she would try to reach Karen and put me on hold for several minutes. When she came back, she said Karen had been in for a couple of hours, but that she wasn't answering. I asked to have the call escalated. Robin told me that a manager would respond within 48-72 business hours. I replied that I was unwilling to wait another 48-72 business hours and demanded she connect me to her supervisor.
She connected me to Tom **, who was uncooperative and downright rude. He told me to call another dealer, take the car in and let them fix it. I asked about a loaner car since I have been without my car for over 9 days out of the past month. He said they don't do loaner cars unless the district manager, Joe **, approves it. I asked him to call Joe ** and get approval, but he refused. He told me that once I have dropped off the car to a dealership, they can call Mr. ** and he can decide then. I asked him if I understood correctly that I was to take my car to another dealership with no alternate means of transportation, leave it there and wait for hours while they try to determine whether they will provide a loaner car or not, whether they can fix the defect or not, and how long it will take them.
He said I understood correctly. I then called and spoke with the service manager at El Monte Kia to arrange to bring my car in. I said I wanted to drop it off and get a loaner or rental. He said they don't do that. I asked him to contact Joe ** and he said he would and that he would call me back. He called back at approximately 11:00AM. I was on another call so it went to voice mail. In the voice mail, he asked me to call back because he didn't want to leave the information in a voice mail.
I returned his call within 10 minutes. He stated that Joe ** wanted to know who gave him my name, that they don't give loaner cars or rental cars as a customer accommodation until they can diagnose the problem, and that I should take the car back to Covina Valley Kia and let them figure out what's wrong. I replied that since Covina Valley Kia has had my car for 9 of the past 28 days and they say we won't do anything else to it because that's the way it's supposed to behave, returning it to them is not an option. Troy at El Monte Kia agreed to make an appointment for Saturday morning of June 19 at 10:30AM. He said I will have to take him on a test drive until the behavior replicates.
I then called Kia Customer Care for the 4th time today. I spoke with Albert who refused to provide me the name of the next person above Tom ** and connected me to Tom again. I relayed to Tom what Troy at El Monte Kia had said. He finally showed some concern about the poor customer service and agreed to escalate this ticket to the district management office. He set an expectation that I should allow two business days for them to research the issue and get back to me. Kia refused to honor the warranty and check any further into the cause of the failing air conditioning.
Throughout the summer it has continued to fail 2-10 times each week for intervals ranging from 2 to 47 minutes. I took the car into Kia El Monte again on Saturday, September 25 because the car was having trouble starting in the morning. I again asked them to check on the air conditioning as well. Two hours later, they called and told me the problem with the car starting is because of the throttle body, but that it is not covered by the 5 year 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty. They also stated that they can find nothing wrong with the air conditioning.
The frustration of Kia failing to honor the warranty on this vehicle has increased my stress level and my doctor has started me on high blood pressure medication. I still have a car I cannot trust to drive for more than a local trip during warm weather because I never know when the A/C will fail and for how long. I have had to waste many hours of time taking this car back and forth to the dealerships for an issue which they should have fixed the first time.

Last year, I sent 3 people over to your dealership and they sold 3 cars that week of 9/30/09. My brother was one of the people they sold, a used dodge avenger to and that week 2 Kia models. Since my brother has owned the car, it has been in the shop 4 times for brakes and rotors. He purchased an extended warranty also. After this time going in the service manager again said it was the driver. Not true, as we sought for a second opinion. When asked to Nicole, the girl that sold the car if I could speak to her Uncle whom is the GM and other, the sales manager. Neither one came to talk to me.
I proceeded to tell Nicole about this and she said she had no idea would get her Uncle. After the 4 time I went over to pick up my brother's car because again they wanted to charge for the problem form the first week owned. I went to talk to Gm upset, asking how could it be possible that this car has been here 4 times for the same thing. Brakes and Rotors. Explaining to him this can't be and something needs to be resolved with this problem.
The SM looked at me not a hi or let's see what we can do, but instead proceeds to threaten me not to yell at his niece ever again. I said, "Excuse me?" He thae proceeded to yell at me and telling me to get out of his showroom and don't ever come back. That is no way to talk to a customer, right or wrong. I have been in retail all my life and I would have been shot by my DM. No matter what his family relationship is at work give him and the other GM to talk to me like that or threaten to tell me what to do. He was not present when this happened and did not even ask me what happened or the problem.
Accuses me of something I did not do and told me to get out and take my car with me! I have never been so appalled. Than when I came back to pick up the car, I went into service where he was laughing and talking about me to his employees. And then said, "Don't ever bring this car back here, we won't fix it or do business with you?
I am not sure what kinds of family business that is? That was no way to treat a customer no matter what! I believe that some sort of action should be taken as how to treat a customer and a discussion on family working together. How upset would you be as a customer? Needless to say, I filed a report with BBB, channel 3 news, consumer affairs and will be contacting my lawyer.

I bought a demo model, sold as new, but it took eight months to correct the paperwork that the dealer ** up, as they were sold as used. From day two until nine months later, the check engine light was on--over 14 times at the dealer for 30+ days of loss of use of vehicle to finally "resolve" the issue. In addition to emissions problems above, the car has blown 200 amp main fuse three times now. Sued under lemon law (NYS), but due to failure of delaer to properly record problems as stated by me, and actual work completed, I got ** and was only able to settle for a pittance of actual time lost. Since settlement, 200 amp fuse has blown again in addition to the dealer breaking alarm system and failing to address TPMS problem that was stated to them.
I spoke with over 15 people so far, and for over 300 years of driving total, there has only been one occurrence of another 200 amp main fuse being blown. A friend who does auto work states that the car is ** and KIA needs to address the serious problem of wiring/electronic problems causing the main fuse to blow every couple of months. The car is unreliable, impossible to have passed the so-called 127 point inspection, and I am tired of getting the run-around from KIA and dealers involved. I am currently seeking others with ongoing electrical problems for a class action suit against KIA.

My car stopped running on Labor day and it was towed to the KIA shop on Wednesday. I took it back to them thinking it was still under warranty, so they looked at it and several days later they told me I had water damage and that my motor was not covered. This is a 2003 car with 91,000. So I called my insurance company state farm and they went out to check the car and said no I didn't drive through any water they said they didn't know how or when it happen. So I called KIA back and and in their notes they said that the water damage came from the hook being lifted up and water had gotten in the car.
So then I go to get it and they tell me that I owe a bill for the tear down and it is 400 so that is when Mike and my step dad have words because their have been several lies told around this car. So then that is why they show my step father up under the hood and there is some water damage. Now after 2 weeks, I have no car and no job. I lost my job and couldn't get to my doctor's appointments. I am on 10 meds and I had to change appointments around and was under a great deal of stress from this issue. I got a phone call today and they are saying I still owe 1900 to fix the car with 10 percent off of the parts. Don't know what to do.

On 08/11/2010, I purchased a 2003 Jeep Cherokee Laredo from Cobb County KIA. The salesman Ross *** told me the price of the car was $8900. I informed the salesman on the phone before I made my visit that this was my first car purchase and I did not have a co-signer. He said it was fine.I told him I had $500 for a down payment and he wanted me to come back and pay $500 more later. He would sell me the Jeep for $8000. I agreed and informed him I was on my lunch break and would return later. He wanted to get the financing started and I did not have my checkbook with me.
He suggested that the only way they could start the process was to have some papers with signatures and money down. My father was driving me that day and lives 25 miles away and could only make one more trip. I told Ross *** I would go over the papers later and let him do an electronic withdrawal of $500. After work I came back to KIA and they said the keys were locked up for the day and they gave me a loaner to drive.
I called before returning and the car was ready. I was handed the keys and paperwork, later if I was asked by my father for a contract, and could not have one. On 08/26/2010, Scott *** called and wanted to get me to sign some reduced adjusted interest rate papers. He said he would not deposit the $500 check I sent until I came in to sign the papers. I could not leave work and he gave me Ian **** number. I asked my father to call Mr. **** to see what this was about. He told me Ian ** informed him that I needed a co-signer or bring the car back or they would send a truck to pick it up. Mr.*** also informed him I needed $4300 to keep the deal the way it is. I asked my father to talk to my mom and this is what happened.
Over the weekend, my ex-wife said she would co-sign for my son. She has excellent credit. Scott **** told me the rates and the car payment would go down. My ex-wife called from the dealership and was told me they said the payments would remain the same and they were trying to sell here add on insurance. The interest rate would be over 14%; they claim it was the same bank that financed her house. What a bunch of clowns was she dealing with? She got very upset and told them she would get her own financing. She asked for a copy of the contract and the loan amount. They told her there was never a contract. We came to a mutual conclusion. These guys are crooks and cannot be trusted.
She got the financing at around 7% in less than half an hour with my son as the primary with payments less than $300 with no money down. The only reason to buy this Jeep was too much time wasted by these crooks to start over again.
On 09/18/2010, my ex-wife and son returned to Cobb County Kia with the payoff check. Ross *** informed her that they would not sell her the car unless she would rescind her complaint to the Better Business Bureau in a letter. She formulated a generic letter because she felt threatened and my son needed the Jeep to get to work. She had the car in her possession and a signed sales agreement. She just wanted to leave. I also have a complaint against Cobb County Kia and they never called me or wrote me a letter.

Christopher came to the salespersons office to get my wife and I to go to his office to sign our loan papers. He mention the amount of the total loan. He never mentioned, he had added 2395.00 worth of warranties to the loan. When we got to his office, he said we had wheel and tire coverage, dent repair and 100,000 miles of complete coverage as if the dealer was giving that to us. When we started signing the papers, he would slide each paper over to us as he reaches across each paper to cover most of it as he marks a dot where you should sign. He continues to mark the dot until you lean forward to sign. He is very careful how he words everything, so he can say he did tell you. He never calls them, extended warranties and he never ask you if you want to by them.
I bought 2395.00 dollars worth of useless warranties and never knew it untill I went over the papers when we got home. It is a shame that a person that works for the dealer can ruin the happy moment of getting a new car.

I was looking into trading my 2-year old Kia. I picked out a new Kia, they did the paperwork and ran it through the computer. They told me that everyone had gone home from Kia financing and that the computer said no to the financing. I am already financed with KMFC. I have never been late with a payment and I always pay a little extra every month, so I went to Kia of Greer, South Carolina. They told me that Best Kia lied to me and was just too lazy to wait for someone to get on the phone from KMFC.
They then told me that because the "computer" said no, it was too late to get a reversal on the decision. I do not understand this. I have been a very good customer. I love your product and wanted to upgrade my vehicle but nobody seemed interested in helping me! So, I will wait for a few months and go to another dealership for another car. Maybe Hyundai! Thank you for your time! I was not able to upgrade my vehicle and I am very confused as to why this has happened!

I bought my 2007 Kia Spectra in August of 2007. It only had 12 miles on it and I was so proud to have my first brand new car. First, let me start with the lies I was told when I bought the car that ended up hurting me. I was told I could refinance in 6 months because I had put $3500 down. I would have so much equity built up that I could trade up with no problems. Wrong.
I was told that I was only going to be paying on my car for 48 months. Wrong, I wasn't aware till I looked my credit up and had seen that it was a 60-month lease. I was told my contract would be mailed to me after my co-signer signed everything. Wrong, I never got my contract. I dealt with all of that; I had no choice and I learned to love my car even though I am paying twice the sticker price. It wasn't until last week when I had just pulled into my driveway when under my hood, it suddenly caught on fire.
I made a report with Kia headquarters right away and towed my car to Kia of Lewisville. I was told they would investigate it and if it turned out to be a manufacturer's defect they would fix it. My car doesn't even have 50,000 miles on it yet. I was told they would find something out and notify me within 24 to 48 hours. It has been a week and I have heard nothing. When I called, the only thing I have gotten back is a message stating that no one has even looked at my car. I am missing work, school, kids football practice, and doctors appointments because of this.

My son had visited from S. Carolina and was returning over a weekend. I inspected his car and found that his front tires were worn so we decided it would be prudent to rotate his tires before leaving in the interest of his safety. While tightening his tires with a 12" T-bar, a wheel stud broke. I have changed out at least a thousand tires throughout my life with larger tools and much more torque and have never broken a wheel stud. This was obviously a quality issue with the Kia parts. I was relieved at first because my son had told me that they had a 100,000 mile drive train warranty. When I spoke with the Kia service manager at Kocourek, I was told that because we rotated the tires that the warranty would not cover it. In effect this is to say that if we would experience a flat tire that it would cost $180 to just repair the defective part.
I wanted to get my son back on the road so he could return for work. I was also told that the part in question (a wheel stud $3 to $5) was not in stock and it would take a week to get it. This was towards the end of the day so I called local auto parts stores and located wheel studs from two different stores. I purchased one from Car-Quest. I made an appointment for the following day. When I arrived at Kia for the service with my part, I again pursued a warranty claim. Now I am told that they could not honor the warranty because I did not buy the part from Kia (they couldn't even get the part). My interest was to get my son home safely so I agreed to pay. After speaking with Kocourek and Kia after the service was performed each credited the other for responsibility. Kocourek doesn't represent Kia and vice versa. We left the car there and went out for lunch.
We returned in less than an hour and the car was out of the shop waiting. It was completed. The job performed was able to be done by a two week Tech student (I've done it myself in the past. ) Kocourek charged me $180.00 for one hour of work for service that is covered by a bogus warranty with Kia Motors. My son did not buy this vehicle from Kocourek but a dealership in Rockport, SC. They do represent Kia Motors, however. This is evident due to the sign at their business which indicates Kia Motors. They have price gouged me. Any other make of vehicle could be serviced at any reputable Wausau auto service provider but the Kia requires special tools.
So we were forced to do business with a crooked dealer representing a crooked auto manufacturer. I don't know of another auto service provider that takes advantage of customers as they do. The warranty states that the drive train is covered for 100,000 miles, it clearly does not. Kia Motors and Kocourek Kia are cheating their customers. The car was repaired for an unreasonable price. Kia Motors and Kocourek Kia Motors did not honor the warranty agreed upon with purchase of vehicle.

I had room to merge in and the traffic was moving smoothly when the driver behind me on Memorial Drive increased his speed and sounded his horn while coming very close to my rear bumper. I increased my speed and looked in the side rear view mirror very briefly to see what was going on, then the traffic light must have changed because when I looked ahead the traffic has stopped. On Sunday August 15, 2010, my wife was operating her 2010 KIA Soul vehicle and traveling South on South Carolina Hi-way 905 at about 9:45pm, a rural road in Horry County South Carolina. An older model faded blue Ford Ranger truck came out of right side dirt access road and after crashing into our vehicle fled the scene. My wife was operating at around 50MPH when the crash occurred. It was a full frontal crash. The air bags did not deploy! She was not seriously injured. The issues and safety for all operators of KIA Motors products leave some doubt since the company touts its 5 star crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
We have filed complaints with KIA and NHTSA. The crash was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol with the fleeing vehicles operator and owner apprehended due to the diligence by witnesses who pursued the vehicle resulting in apprehension and charges placed against him. This was a new vehicle and the resulting economic as well as the physical injury costs are unbelievable. What Power Train Warranty? My 2003 Kia Sorento is still under "power train warranty" with only 54,000 miles on it. A small leak in the coolant system went undetected and caused the engine to overheat on the freeway at 10 pm. I could have been killed, thanks to that ** car. A major design flaw in the dashboard display is that the engine thermostat is tucked away in the upper right hand corner invisible to any good driver that keeps their hands on the steering wheel. The overheated engine ceased while I was on the freeway and I was barely able to coast off to a gouge point next to the nearest exit. Cars were screaming by both sides of my car. Very scary!
Anyway, turns out that I'm the one at fault according to Kia customer care and service managers at the Kia Depot in Santa Ana, CA. Since the Kia cooling system failed and Kia water reservoir caused the problem, Kia should cover the cost of engine replacement or at least consider an extreme discount. Unfortunately, they ruled that I'm completely at fault and refuse to assist in any way. With that kind of attitude and lack of compassion for their customers, why in my right mind would a spend I dime let alone $5000 to replace the engine and catalytic converters? Never buy from Kia or Hyundai! They don't stand by their product and will worm their way out of any and all warranty issues!

I have purchased a 2011 KIA Sorrento from Central KIA of Norwood MA. on July 19 2011 and on Monday July 26 I noticed a spot of oil on my garage floor, I brought the car to Central KIA and they determined the leak was coming from inside the engine and in order to repair it they would have to remove the exhaust system, transmission and parts of the engine to determine where the leak is and what they need to do to repair it.
This car only has 600 miles on it and they are completely disassembling the engine. I expressed my anger over this and told them I did not want the car even after the repair, they told me to contact KIA and let them know my concerns. I did call KIAs customer service and told them the following, I do not want a brand new car that just has been ripped apart and reassembled. With so few miles on the car this is clearly an assembly line issue and why should I pay $20000 for a car with this type of defect. As a result of this repair I anticipate additional problems due to the fact that so many pieces of the engine have been removed and there is no guaranty that this will be reassembled without something going wrong down the road. I also anticipate many more visits to KIA for follow-up repairs; this is not why I purchased a new car.
They assured me that they will stand behind the repair but would not address the idea of replacing it. My contact at KIA is Steve, I am angered over this because I purchased a new car to avoid the constant repairs I have experienced with my previous car and now I have a new car that is in far worse shape than my old car.
It is my opinion that the simple thing to do is replacing the car and uses this defect as a means to correct this problem either at the plant or with the vendor that may have supplied them with the defective part. I am at the beginning stages of this and I am not sure if this is the time to contact you but I would appreciate some advice on handling this and what path I should take to get this resolved.

I was insulted! I knew they wouldn't take me seriously because I am a young woman. They took pictures and said they doubt they will do anything about it.
My grandpa who is my co-signer who also owns a Kia and loves it took my vehicle in again to discuss the matter. They gave him the number for the head people and talked with them and they said they would call him back. He has been waiting for three weeks now! They are trying to blame me saying it's my fault and I must be driving on gravel roads a lot. I do not drive on gravel! I was also at the mall one day and seen a red Kia soul in the parking lot. It has 13,000 miles, I bought it brand new in 2009 and had it for 3 months. When I start using the a/c a lot more because it's about 100 degrees in Riverside, and you need the a/c, that when it started having problems. Sometimes it's nice and cold, sometimes it's warm.
I called Riverside Kia, now they want to charge me $99 just to look at it, and can not do it this Saturday. Just a terrible company with no service of any kind. I call Kia depot in Santa Ana, they will not look at diagnostic for a/c unit on weekends, only Monday to Friday with appointments.
People, lets face the fact, people who worked Monday through Friday to pay for a piece of junk car like a Rio doesn't have many options when they can take time off work. I now know what a mistake I make purchasing a Kia. I am sucker, and I am stuck with it. So here is warning to everyone else, do not buy Kia. It will break down on you within months. Warranty will not cover the time you lost trying to fix their junk, or the frustrations, or the knowledge of what a mistake you make with your hard yearn money. Kia Motors America in Irvine does not have weekend hours, where most good, hard working people like me would normally have time to seek help with their car issues. No answer. No service. My sister recently bought a 2006 Kia Sorento. We paid $9,000.00 for it, and we're the 2nd owner of the vehicle. Right off the bat, there were electrical problems of which the dealer was happy to take care of. Now 4 months later in the dead of summer, the Air Conditioning is out, and will cost $1,600.00 to fix. What a load of crap! The car is practically brand new, and shouldn't have this problem.
I contacted Kia as they "boast" about their so called 10yr 100,000 mile warranty on every vehicle. They say they stand behind their product. Ha! It doesn't follow the vehicle if it is sold. Well duh, people will generally sell or try to rid themselves of a bad car after 1 or 2 major repairs. Warranty void. So I asked the guy at Kia what's the difference whether the vehicle has a new owner or not. It's still well under 10 years, as well as under 100,000 miles. The product is still the same. Of course no answer. Just a "I'm sorry sir." Don't ever buy a kia.

I own a 2004 Kia Sadona mini van. In 2008, I brought it into Mathews Kia, in Vestal, NY, because of power steering problems. They replaced a pump. Shortly after that, it began making a funny noise, so I again brought it back, and this time, they said it was a pulley. Then in 2010, the power steering started sounding real bad again, so I took it to the new Kia dealer that just opened in Ithaca, NY. They told me it was the power steering rack that is shot, and a new one will be worth $1,300.00. I explained that I had it in for a the same sounding issue back in 2008, and that a new pump had been put in, and that I shouldn't be having this issue, a year and a half later.
The service manager spoke with the district manager. Oh, and a side note, they did not call me back like they said, either time. I finally called them after 4 days of not hearing from them, and the second time, when he didn't call back, I called him back the next day. That's when he informed me that he had spoken to the district manager, and that they were not gonna cover any of the cost, as it was no longer under warranty. I again explained that it was under warranty the first time I took it in for the same sounding problem, and it is obvious the true problem was not resolved.
They replied that they were sorry, but could do nothing about it. I then called the customer service 800 number, where I was informed that the district manager has the last word, and if he said there was nothing Kia could do, then that's that. So I am attempting to find someone higher up to speak to, but have not, as of yet, but will keep trying. Thank you for your time, and for providing this service.

After putting the car on the rack, he explained the back end was out of alignment that the tires were tilting inward causing the tires to wear uneven.
However, there was no way to correct the problem and that I should contact Kia service. The following morning I called Kia of Mentor, OH and was told that they don't do alignments there but they send all their cars to Bob's Towing and Garage in Painesville. I made an appointment with Bob's Garage and found out the Sears manager was correct, there was no fix to correct the back end.
I then proceeded to write a letter to Kia's president and was referred to the Kia Regional office. After a few weeks, I was told the engineers are looking into the problem and they have found a way to correct the problem and the alignment would be free as soon as the parts come in. That was over a month ago and I am still waiting. In the meantime, I have another set of tires that are destroyed so I also requested a new set of tires. The car is out of alignment that it shakes when it goes down the street and the noise is so loud that I can't even hear the radio.

In 2006, I bought a 2006 Kia Sorento from Ricart Ford in Columbus, Ohio. This SUV is a piece of junk or lemon. I brought this car because of the warranty that was offered by Kia's dealership. The manufacturer vehicle warranty is 5 years/60000 miles; the engine is covered.
In March 2010, my engine had failed with approx 46,666 miles. I took it to Ricart Ford and was told the engine need to be replaced with a quote of $5,000 to $6,000 to fix it with a used engine. A Kia Representative came out and looked at the engine and rejected the claim while the vehicle warranty was still in effect, knowing the Kia new car warranty covers were crucial to me and I thought it would help me to save money. The basic warranty covers everything except items that are subject to wear and tear or replacement in the ordinary course of vehicle ownership, such as oil and air filters, wiper blades and brake pads. Tires and batteries are often excluded, but usually have their own warranty provided by the manufacturers of those items. Emissions equipment is required by Federal law to be covered for five years or 50,000 miles. I also have roadside assistance. Many manufacturers provide a service that will rescue you if your car leaves you stranded, even if it's your fault. Lock yourself out of your car? Run out of gas? Got a flat tire? A call to the manufacturer's toll-free number will result in somebody showing up who can help you out.
I have been keeping up with the oil changes every 3,000 miles, head and tail lights every two month. The air conditioner stopped working, windshield motor stopped working and the timing belt broke and the engine failed. I've shown proof of the oil changes receipts from Jiffy lube and others receipts from my brother who had also changed my oils and filters. I was told by the Kia representative that the engine would not be covered because of the oil changes that was not properly done. He also said go back to Jiffy Lube and your brother to ask them to pay for your engine. What was happening to my warranty with Kia? This is a joke.
The air conditioner, and windshield motor are covered but I need to pay for the engine before KIA can replace my air conditioner, windshield motor and other misc on my car.
My car is under warranty and I don't think Kia is playing fair game by sticking me with a bill of $5,000 to replace with a used engine. I paid car notes and cannot afford to replace my engine. I need help to fight Kia to replace my engine, air conditioner, windshield motor and head and tail lights that are covered under my warranty.

I have a 2002 Kia Sadona that was bought in the end of 2001. Within the first month, the engine light came on. We are from Florida and had to go to Indiana. We called corporate to find a dealership to take it to. Since the vehicle was so new, they couldn't get a replacement part- it was some type of fuse. They wouldn't take it off a new one they just got in. So they pulled it from my rear defroster and told us to take it in when we got home to get it fixed.
About four months later, it left me stranded at my daughter's school when picking her up. I had to have the alternator replaced. That was due to wrong size installed to begin with. Not long after that I would notice the weird jerking when it shifted so I took it in. Of course they said that that was normal. So I ignored it after complaining several times. Not much later, I also started noticing the brakes weren't working right. It was like it didn't want to stop. I almost ran some stop signs at low speeds. Scary! Of course they are fine nothing wrong with it. So I ignored it and I am scared to death that one of these days, it will kill us or others.
I don't know what year I am at but it is now stalling on me or not wanting to start still under warranty, they can't find anything wrong with it and the engine light didn't even come on. Now it's worse that they even looked at it. I almost crash into my neighbor's yard, the engine just died in the middle of a sharp curve. I called my husband then I called the dealership. I am hot! I took it in, they can't find anything wrong again. It's running erratically, now RPMs are up and down all over the place. Finally it won't start in my driveway. My husband is now mad as ever. We called them up and they told us to bring it in. Thank god we got it to start. The coils were rusted out and so were the spark plugs.
I want to get rid of this vehicle but we were still paying on it. Another year went buy with more of the same, it likes to stall out still, but they won't even look at it until we pay for the $30,000 maintenance that needs to be done. A thousand dollars later and they don't know what's wrong with it. Okay! It's running fine, not a problem. Thank goodness. Uh-oh! Year 2009, now that the warranty doesn't cover crap. I hate this van. In the past year we have had to totally replace the windshield wiper system, fix the transmission, replace the brakes even though they looked fine, front end alignment, replace struts. Now at about 90,000 miles, the engine sounds like it is going to blow. Oh yes, my air bag light is now on. I haven't taken it in yet.
I don't know if I have forgotten anything but I am sure that I have. LOL! We found a flashlight in the engine, and bolts missing. The firewall, I think that is what it is called, is falling down. Such good service. Every time they touch, it something else breaks. Don't take it to the dealers. Go to somebody else. It doesn't brake (as) fast. And it won't cost as much. If we go a long distance, we take our old truck, I believe it is an 1988- much more dependable.

I financed a 2007 Kia Rio with only 146 miles on it in October of 2007 from Z Frank Chevy which later closed down. In November of the next year, I was forced to pay almost $400 for a new wheel bearing because the only service center available to me claims the broken lug nut studs were my husband's fault for putting too much pressure on the lug nuts during a tire change. After calling Kia customer service inquiring about a refund or acknowledgement of faulty parts,my issues were not resolved as customer service sided with the service center and did not help me at all. Since then, I had to replace all of the tires before necessary. The rubber weather stripping on the driver side passenger door of the car began coming loose and is completely hanging off now, making it difficult to close the door.
The most recent issue (of which I'm afraid to go to the service center for) is the broken driver's door which means either someone must open the door for me or I must open the window to let myself out. My issues with the Kia Service center date back to the problem with the wheel bearing, a tire rotation that I paid for and my husband could tell did not take place, but we could not prove, and the most recent issue with the weather stripping in the door. I went to the service center to find out about getting my stripping repaired and the rep told me that I could have it repaired at no cost as long as my car had less than 60,000 miles on it. So I made an appointment to come back. When I came back, I was told that I had to order a new strip which would cost me $60 plus installation and the rep claimed my car looked like someone tried to break in through the passenger door, but the dents were from having to slam the door because of the issue with the stripping not in place. Additionally, when I went for an oil change after receiving my new plates, I asked if they could install them for me, but I was told that because I had not purchased my car through Evergreen Kia, they could not do that service for me. I'm highly frustrated with everything Kia and cannot wait until I can afford a different car.

I bought a Kia Amanti in mid 2004. In December 2006, I had to have it towed into the dealership for what turned out to be a dangerous situation with the fuel. The charcoal fuel recovery system was overfilled with gas. The gas somehow had been diverted from the fuel tank into a fume recovery system. I ended up taking the car back several times in the next few weeks to get it "fixed". The same problem occurred over and over again. Since December 2006, I have had to take the car back at least ten times for the same problem. This is not covered on my extended warranty, so it has cost me thousands in repairs as of date. At this moment the car is in the shop again with repairs that will probably exceed $1000.00. I am retired and not able to afford a new vehicle. I bought this car thinking I was buying a vehicle where the manufacturer stood behind their product. I attempted to talk to a representative again this morning but was told your warranty is up, too bad. I told him the problem started long before the warranty was up but the Kia rep Steve basically said too bad the warranty is up and did not want to hear about my problem.
This is a very dangerous problem. Had the driver of the vehicle been a smoker and opened the trunk or had the windows closed without ventilation, the mechanic said the car could have been involved in an explosive situation. But since December 2006, KIA has not corrected this or made an attempt to repair this problem correctly. Be careful in your choice of vehicles. I have never had a problem with an auto/truck like this nor have I ever experienced a lack of assistance by a manufacturer as I have with KIA. I guess KIA stands for "Kick in **" if you have a problem.

Two incidents it wouldn't start at all, with that I had to call roadside assistance. I was embarrassed to know that I had a new Sorento and it doesn't want to start. When I got to the dealership to speak to the big man, he questioned me like I was special; asking me if I had it in park. I mean, are you serious?
Finally, he took it on a two-minute test drive, came back and said he didn't find anything wrong with it and since the engine light wasn't on, there was nothing they could do about it. I politely took my keys saying to myself I will never buy a Kia again. One when I asked for the car-fax, I was told there was not one available.Went online last night and purchased a car fax and found out the car was in an accident and damage was done to the under carriage. The reason why I am concerned is that the car accelerates very very quickly and I don not like how the brakes feel.
I discussed this with the service person last week and he informed me this is how the new cars are. I know different. Also the paint is peeling off the car front bumper. There are many scratches on the hood of the car which they told me I could buff out so the weather got better and my nephew told me he would not try to buff the car because the scratches look to deep.
Also the battery had to be changed at 21,500 miles, so I drove it for approximately 1,000 miles before I needed a new battery. Also when I purchased the car, they informed me all four tires where new. When they gave me the detail report only 3 tires where new. When I questioned the manager he stated the salesman made a mistake.
Also the seat belt needed a piece, they did order that. I have been driving for 44 years and never had a car where the paint peels off or the brakes do not feel okay or the car accelerates so fast. My niece has a new car and it dose not accelerate like this car and I just turned in a Saturn leased car 2006, no problems. They are telling me I may need to pay for the painting of the car. I will write a new complaint after Saturday if they think I am going to pay.

I have had this 2003 Kia Sorrento since 2004. It has 25,000 miles on it and I bought the extended 100,000 mile warranty (Bumper to bumper warranty). I have had over 4,000.00 in repairs since then. The car is in the shop now with a crane pulley that has stripped the bolts out. It was recalled in 2007 for this same problem and it was supposed to have been fixed? Now, that it has done it again, they say to fix they will have to remove the radiator and that will cause the radiator to crack because of a defect in the radiator. (300.00) for the radiator plus whatever they can find wrong. My wife bought the car and was happy with it until all the problems with it.
It now has 100,040 miles (out of warranty). I don't know how they can sell the Kia autos and steal you blind at the service department. Nothing is ever under warranty (nothing is considered the drive train). Even though it is bumper to bumper warranty, they find a way around it. The list goes on and on. Radiator overflow tank replaced. Drive shaft replaced. Water Pump replaced. You get it out of shop for one thing and then it leads to another problem that they say is not related. Although they had to take that part off to replace the bad part. They damage more than they repair. Unhappy Foreign auto customer going back to the Good Old American auto. One time foreign auto buyer.

I bought a used 2005 Kia Sorento in 2006. It had maybe 23,000 miles on it. I've had all different kinds of problems, however I've also had an ongoing problem that still exists today. There are wiring issues with this SUV. My clock fades in and out, the dome light no longer works and I change my head-lights out once every two months. It was under warranty until I reached 60,000 miles.
Now I pay to swap out my own head-lights. I also asked a dealer (non-Kia dealer) to look at a few issues I had with it, and they couldn't because, his words, it took special parts he didn't' have. I had to take it to a Kia dealer. So I did. That dealer never did fix my dome light. They got it to turn on again, with the advice of..."Don't touch it or it will shut off again." Needless to say, with a 5-year-old, it was touched and shut off and when I went back, it was out of warranty.
I recently did a car fax for the first time on my 2005 Kia Sorento, and learned that the SUV didn't even have 2,000 miles on it before it was taken in for electrical problems. It was taken in 4 or 5 times before the first owner sold it. I was the second owner. I bought the car from the same dealer that got the car brand new. They checked the electrical wiring every time the fist owner brought it in. I was shocked to see how many times my car was looked at, by two different dealers and the problem still exist.
It's now obvious that this car was made with this electrical problem, if it was first checked out after only 2,000 miles. I get the preventative maintenance on the car. It has its normal wear and tear, however this ongoing issue of no dome light, flickering clock and replacing head-light is getting old. Can I do anything to get these things fixed without taking it out of my pocket? It was a problem, before it was my problem. SUV currently has 130,000 miles on it.

I purchased new 2010 car on Dec. 21, 2009. I called the dealership and asked about the audio package it had. They said the upgraded one was not included. On March 4th, I took my car to Kia with the window sticker showing the upgrade audio package listed and the price. Kia looked at my limited edition car and checked the other one on the sales floor to verify that neither had the audio package included in the purchase price. I was given the phone number to Kia Corp office. I called Kia Corp., was given a case number.
They called back the 6th and said they would get back to me on the 8th. Today is March 17 and no one has returned my calls or answered any of my questions about my car. I would like my car equipped as I purchased it. I have the next 5 years to pay for upgrades that were never built in at the factory, yet myself and the other 1500 limited edition purchasers have assumed the car is equipped as listed. I have a limited edition car, that is missing some of its limited edition factory installed equipment. Resale will be lower if not fixed, plus I already paid for the package when I bought the car.

I bought a new 2005 Kia Rio in January of 2006. I took it to the dealership several times for excessive wind noise coming in through the windows and for the radio that kept shorting out. They replaced the channels around the windows, but that didn't help at all. I took it back several more times, but the problem was never fixed. The problem with the radio started right after I took it in the first time for the window. The speakers started popping and cracking, but very intermittently so I couldn't pin down the cause and it wouldn't happen when I took it into the dealership.
By the time I figured out the problem, I was out of the bumper to bumper warranty. Water was leaking into the door panels and caused the wires to short. At this time, the speakers crackle horribly all the time. So listening to the radio or CD's is impossible. I had regular oil changes done, but I didn't take it to the dealership for that. I never received any information from Kia or the dealership in regards to scheduled maintenance. I commute for work so in October of 2009, I had 83,000 miles on my car. Now when I took it in for oil changes, the mechanics checked my belts and they never saw any problems. I was driving home on Halloween night when I heard a clunk and all the warning lights on the dash came on. The car died right there on the side of the road.
After it was towed to the dealership, I was told that the timing belt had broken and now the whole engine needed to be replaced. Even though I was still under the power train warranty, I was informed that the timing belt is not covered under the warranty since it's a maintenance item and therefore replacing the engine would not be covered. I towed it home and had a friend look at it. When he opened the hood, he noticed that the engine cover hadn't even been removed and the timing belt was still in place. When I called the dealership back, they said it had stripped.
Looking online I found out that it was a known issue with Kia vehicles. That a lot of Kia and Hyundai models were having the same problem with the timing belt stripping out at 65,000 to 80,000 miles. However, at no time did Kia call or write to let its customers know that if they didn't replace the timing belt right on time that when it went, it would cause so much damage to the pistons and head that the whole engine would have to be replaced.
I called Kia customer service and was told in no uncertain terms that they would not help at all with the repairs or in any way help with what was still owed on the vehicle. I was quoted $4500 to $4800 to replace the engine. I found out that the book value for my vehicle is only $4500 in good running condition. I still owe $7400 on it. I am not able to afford the repairs so at this time I have a vehicle that is completely undrivable and no way to buy another car because I still owe too much on the Kia. So now I'm having to beg and borrow rides to get back and forth to work just so I can pay my other bills.

I have a 2005 Kia Spectra, which I bought at the end of 2005/beginning of 2006. The car has very little mileage. The brakes have always been a problem. I almost got into an accident the other day, because the car wouldn't stop. Even the emergency brake failed. The car has had the entire brake system redone, both the front brakes and rear brakes. It is a continuous problem. Unfortunately, there are no after-market brakes to replace them, or I would upgrade them in a nanosecond.
It is a continuous problem, and as soon as I have enough money, I am going to replace the car. It is very disappointing, because the car does not have a lot of mileage, and the brakes should not have failed so soon! I hit the front right of a column when parking, because the car wouldn't stop. I was crawling (maybe 1-2 mph). The damage is slight, but it should not have happened. There have been a couple of other near misses, because the car wouldn't stop. Fortunately, I am a very careful driver.

According to the dealership, the gas tank was overfilled causing the canister easy to be damaged. The regional manager determined this was not covered under the warranty since I was at fault for overfilling the tank. None of the salespeople I talked to know the vehicle could be damaged by overfilling the tank nor is there any mention of this fact in the manual. This seems to me to be a design flaw in the spectra. The total bill for the repairs was $437.62 all of which I believe should have been covered by the warranty.

At 50k miles, the timing belt striped the teeth. After taking it to a shop, they told me the timing belt broke and I needed the head pulled off and rebuilt to fix the bent valves. After I heard that, I called the Kia dealership to find out what could be done. I was told that due to the fact that I was not the original buyer, and I didn't have the car serviced at the Kia dealership, the 10-year 100,000 mile drive train warranty was not going to be honored.
The owner's hand book said to have the timing belt inspected at 60k/90k miles and replaced at 110k miles. So now, I am making payments on a car that blew itself up by design. I bought '08 KIA Rondo in Jan/09 - brand new, with approximately 10 miles and plastic covered seats. The salesman understood the need for safety since I work 2nd shift and drive approximately 100 miles per day and the car would be my family's main transport. I left the dealership feeling good about such a "great" deal for a car/wagon with so many "excellent safety features". Two-lane country roads are my main course and I was really stubborn about safety factors when speaking with the salesman. "If you have a wreck in this car, it's going to be like landing on a great big pillow with all the airbags in this thing," the salesman said. "And the Electronic Stability control device will help keep you on the road," he continued.
On Dec 19th 2009, on my way to work, my KIA Rondo, on a 2-lane country road, wet pavement, light sprinkles and cold, quickly lost control when I swayed a little too far on the right side shoulder. The vehicle swerved a little before going into the next lane heading straight to the steep cliff. I jerked the wheel to the right and that's when the rollover started. I rolled over twice and not one air-bag deployed. If it wasn't for my seat-belt, I wouldn't be here. My car is a total loss and looked as if it had been smashed in every direction. The front was smashed as if I had a head on collision and the left side of the car was crinkled like aluminum foil. No side curtains, no front, no side doors and rear passenger airbags deployed. I'm grateful my two children and my husband weren't in the car because they probably wouldn't had made it. Just about all windows were broken and shattered and everything was flung out of the car.
I suffered a severe head injury, 6" laceration with skull exposed on left side of head, horrible whiplash and concussion. I haven't been able to go back to work yet and it's been 6 weeks. I am a nurse and unfortunately, no disability insurance. I believe this "false sense of security" sold to me by the KIA Store has damaged me for life.

The dealer charges $100 just to tell me it's going to cost at least $800 to fix it every time I take it to them. For such a cheap piece of junk, the repairs are astronomical. First, within the first 10- 20K miles, I noticed that my transmission/FWD did not work properly. I complained that the wheels would lock or it would not go into four-wheel drive, especially in reverse! I took the car to Parsons Kia, Winchester, where I purchased the car. They kept the car a day, and told me they could not find anything wrong with the car. I believe I took it back again, when I had them do an oil change. Again, they said they could not find anything wrong with the car. I remember our conversation. "So, what happens when I get to 100K miles and then all of a sudden you find something wrong?!" Well, they told me that I documented it so it would show I had an issue with the transmission.
I took the car in for a 60K mile warranty work (not cheap by the way). I again complained to Parsons Kia that the transmission did not seem right, and told them it would clunk - again, they said there was nothing wrong. About a week or two after I had my car in for the warranty work, that I paid for, the car would not start. I took the car back to Kia and again told them that there was something wrong with the transmission. I had a friend drive it and he noticed it too. So, it went back to Kia for 1) not starting, and 2) the transmission or something as I said was most wrong!
Well, after 3 plus weeks, Kia put on and off my front axle, replaced my transfer case. I got the car back. Within a day, I called back Parsons Kia. I told them the car shimmied and did not shift right. I took back the car. I was told again that there was nothing wrong. It was my tires. I had my tires balanced and rotated at Costco. I had purchased very good tires and my tires are good and have several miles on them, 30K at least according to Costco.
Well, here we are ... My car went to Kia again. My latest trip was on August 7, 2009. Still, they could not find anything wrong with my transmission. I told them the clutch was tight, it still shimmied, and I could not shift into third and the car clunked at low speeds. Kia said there was nothing they could find. If they drove it, like I suggested, they would have noticed it, it's very noticeable!
I took my car to Hyundai , a related company to Kia. Guess what? My transmission is shot, third gear is nearly gone! The gears were replaced with a new transfer case. According to Hyundai, my estimate to get it fixed is $4,700. This car is still under warranty. I have 74K miles. My feeling is Kia wants me to go over the 100K so they won't have to pay for the transmission.

We bought our 2005 Kia Rio brand new at the end of 2005. We were looking for a reliable car that was affordable and would have a great warranty. Famous last words. The salespeople really talked up the 100,000/10 year warranty so we got suckered in and bought it. At 38,000, the timing belt went out and seized up the engine, which meant the whole thing had to be replaced. It was $4,400 to replace. We had to moan, complain, fight and finally have our attorney friend threaten to sue them to have them cover it under warranty. They had the car for 10 days, under which they provided a rental car, only for us to get the rental bill of $350 later, after our car was fixed and returned. We never paid it since they had said it was on them.
Now we have had the Kia in the shop 3 times in the last month and half for the clutch. The first time they told us it was the cable out on it and we replaced it for $250. Two weeks later, it was acting up again. They replaced the shift mount and luckily didn't charge us as they said it was covered under the original work order. 10 days after that, the car can't be shifted at all and we had it towed back to Kia. Now they are saying it must be our problem because they "fixed" it the first two times. They said that they have to take the entire engine apart and the transmission out to determine the real problem causing this. They wanted us to authorize them to do this at $85/hour in labor, not knowing how long it was going to take.
I told them that this was a warranty issue and they said that they can't determine that until the car is taken apart and they determined the problem. So I am supposed to just authorize them to take it apart, pay the labor and just hope they cover it? Yeah right! Played this game before with them! So now they are going to take it apart, with us telling them we are not paying for any of it. They are not providing a car. They are trying to explain that the transmission and the engine (which was replaced at 38,000) shouldn't be covered because of high mileage. It is at 60,000, which still falls within their 10 year/100,000 miles, so what is the problem? We are gearing up for another full throttle fight to get them to pay for it. After all, it is the third time in 7 weeks it has been in the shop for the same problem.
Moral of the story: If you are reading this and considering a Kia, run, run, run. They are crap cars made by a crap company that knows nothing of backing up their cars or customer service.

My husband bought a 2003 Kia Sorento in January of 2007 from the Asheville Dodge dealership, which has now closed down. Since then, we have had the overflow tank cracked and had to be replaced. When it overheated, it cracked 2 hoses that had to be replaced as well. The dome light inside the car does not work, we have had to replace the headlight bulbs at least 5 times, the paint is chipping off the front bumper and the headlight bracket that holds the headlights on are cracked and do not hold the headlights in place well.
This month, the harmonic balancer bolt broke off, causing the car to stall, loss of power steering and very difficult to get off the road. After all the above problems and then this happening, we decided to call Kia to see if there was a recall on this particular problem. I come to find out there was. So great, we had the car towed to a Kia dealership to be repaired. Within the next 2 days, they called us back and told us that they will not pay to fix this problem because the recall is several years old and we did not get it in to them in a timely matter, and that it is our responsibility to call Kia anytime you buy a used car to see if there are any recalls.
The recall was before we bought the car and we were not told about it during purchase. We had no idea about it and never received any type of notice after the fact, letting us know that there was a recall. Not only that, they are telling us it will cost $2,900 to fix something that is Kia's problem. It's a recall that we knew nothing about so we should not have to pay for it. They assigned us a case worker named Michael, who was supposed to do what he could to get Kia to pay for this and came back and said there was nothing else he could do, we would just have to pay for it.
I have 2 children that I need this vehicle for daily transportation. This is a very big safety issue. What if I have been going down the interstate at 65 when this bolt decided to brake, for a problem that I should have known about in the beginning? I'm not asking for a new Kia or monetary offset, all I want is for Kia to pay to fix a Kia recall.

I was mailed a contest form by Kia automobile with a scratch off to see if I won a TV, vacation, or car. I went in to scan my contest form to see if I won anything. The salesperson told me I won a vacation and I asked him if I had to do anything, or was it a timeshare, or if there was a catch and he replied no. I was so excited to win a vacation. I came home to immediately log onto my computer to look up the hotel in which city I was going to choose for my free trip. I entered Ramada Resort Plaza and realized that there were many posts by consumers who said this was a scam. I am so angry. I thought since it was Kia and Ramada it was a legitimate trip because of the reputation of these businesses. This is fraud in its truest form. I want to sue Kia for sending out a scam contest and promising one thing and it is definitely what it represents.
This scam company now has my name, address, and telephone number since I had to provide my driver's license to the automobile Kia. I am disabled with fibromyalgia and any stress causes my disease to flare up and makes me extremely ill. I also feel violated and embarrassed to be scammed. My faith in legitimate business dealings is destroyed. Kia and Ramada are supposedly very reputable companies. I will never do business with Kia. I am absolutely devastated mentally and physically. I am terrified my personal information has been compromised. I do not feel safe. I am a single woman who lives by myself. This type of fraud must be stopped.

On September 7, 2009, our 2004 Kia Sorento (90,000 miles) started making a noise from the engine. It sounded like something had come loose inside the engine. We immediately had the vehicle towed to the dealer. After some investigation, the service department found that the induction relief valve had dislodged and was sucked into the engine through the intake. Apparently, this was an active recall item that Kia had issued in June 2009. This recall notice was never received. Only one recall notice (crankshaft pulley bolt) had been received since purchasing the Sorento new in 2004.
Kia agreed to repair the engine which included removing the heads and sending out to be machined. After the engine was rebuilt and started up, it still made a noise similar to the noise when taken to the dealer. After removing the heads again, it was discovered that the pistons were flaking apart. In order for Kia to perform any further repairs, they asked that I provide service and maintenance records for the past 5-1/2 years, so they could decide whether to rebuild the engine again or just replace it with a new short block. I provided very detailed records, and then was informed that Kia will not replace the engine and wants me to pay for further repairs (24 hours labor). So now we're at day 16 since the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and we're at an impasse.
I'm perplexed in that Kia was willing to repair the vehicle in the first place at no cost, but since it was discovered that the repair was not successful or was not performed correctly, or possible engine damage was missed during the initial diagnosis, they are now insisting that I pick up the tab. This seems wrong in so many ways that I can't even think about it without getting frustrated.

My story sounds the same as a few of the above. I bought my car brand-new in 2004 (normal 2004 Rio, not the Cinco) with 74000 miles. Later, my clutch broke, which is normal. Now at $78000, my timing belt broke, even though I inspected it and had the paperwork. I submitted it, and the KIA local parts rep named Audrey in San Jose, CA inspected it and refused to service it because of the paperwork. I told them (the auto shop that did the tuneup and checked my timing belt) that I requested my timing belt be inspected and since the paperwork had the word timing on it. I had been led to believe that it was.
Well, when I found out that Audry denied it, I called Bonnie (my 800 333 4 KIA rep who opened my case) to complain and investigate why they wouldn't accept my proof of inspection. A week passed by, and I called Bonnie again. The second time I spoke with her, she said that she couldn't reach them. That's why it was taking so long. So the next day, I called the dealership (Karl KIA). They said that they were on the phone with her coincidentally while I'm calling. 10 minutes later, Bonnie called me back and said two things: She said that my paperwork has nothing to do with the timing belt and that my timing belt was only covered for the 5-year warranty and that since it was an expired part that broke, it voided the powertrain warranty. I just bought this car in December 2004 brand-new and had followed the maintenance table as I was supposed to. For this vehicle's motor to break down at 80,000 miles is ridiculous.
So I called today to pay for the $130 diagnostic fee, since repairing the engine is not an option. But out of curiosity, I asked the service person on the phone (from the Karl Chevrolet dealership) if they had knowledge about KIA warranties since I had also checked the warranty info on the KIA Motors of America website. As it turned out, my representative from KIA had lied to me and the timing belt is included under the powertrain warranty according to the person.

We purchased a Kia Rio Cinco in 2004 with just 13 miles on it. We were confident that this would be a great commuter car for me because it is backed by such a powerful warranty, 10 years/100,000 mile powertrain; not to mention, we purchased an additional warranty from extra care as another just in case. My car has 78,000 miles on it and the engine blew due to a timing belt issue. I had my car service religiously and also had the belt changed, as per the owner's manual to validate the warranty.
Now that my car is at the dealership, they have denied the claim stating that the belt was never changed, when indeed the belt was changed in '08 with receipts to prove. This all started on Sunday and now it's Friday. I purchased my 2008 Kia Rio5 in August of 2008.The car has been nothing but a nightmare since that time. I first started noticing a significant drop in my fuel mileage and loss of power after about a month of having the vehicle. I mentioned it to the dealer but I was informed that unless it throws fault codes or has a more pronounced problem, chances of being able to diagnose a complaint like that were slim. One month later, I went to start my car & it wouldn't fire up. After numerous attempts of cranking it, it finally started. I contacted Kia and they said not to worry about it unless it happens again.
Another month goes by and one morning, the check engine light comes up. I bring it in to the dealership and they tell me it requires a reprogramming update. All right, so that's all done & I leave. To make the story a bit shorter, it basically happens 3 more times after that. They keep blaming it on the reprogramming but advise me that my fault codes are for misfire. At this point, 7.5 months have gone by so we have a total of 4 incidents of the light coming on & reprogramming. The 5th time, this light came on flashing, derating the engine & I couldn't drive faster than 40 km. I shut the car off & restarted it.The light didn't flash and operated normally so I dropped it off at the dealership.
Flash forward almost 2 months, I finally got my car back from the dealership. During this time, I was given a courtesy car (I do have to give them that at least) and they resealed the cylinder head & block. I have my car back for not even 12 hours and the check engine light comes on again & derates. They take my car for almost another 2 weeks again (visit # 6), this time replacing the ECM. I was at the point where I was discussing a replacement vehicle with them, but the only solution they were giving me was owing them an additional $10,000 to get a new car.
Since they finally did do an actual replacement of a main component (the ECM) of the vehicle, I decided to give the vehicle one more chance. Two days later, I started my car & I'm guessing you know the outcome. I will be contacting Kia Canada today to place my complaint & depending on the outcome when I visit the dealership today (visit #7), I will be taking appropriate measures to get this dealt with, not only for myself but also for the satisfaction of other Kia consumers. I hope the management at Kia had a wonderful long weekend. It looks like they are going to have a terrible start to their week.

At no time during all the years of the car being serviced at the dealership did anyone mention the timing belt needed to be replaced to keep the warranty.
Kia Corporate offices tell us the information about this timing belt requiring a change is in the owner's manual and (this is the kicker), the dealerships are not required to mention this to the owner. We have had at least 6 cars within the last 10 years, and none of them has shown this type of "wear and tear" at such an early stage. At this stage of the life of a car, you would expect to incur in the basic periodical maintenance expenses of a new car (oil changes, filter changes, various basic issues). The extended warranty did not cover all and it cost me over $800. Then the wheel bearing and whatever else with the tires, then the radio doesn't work which I didn't complain but then I mentioned that the clock flashed when I would put my signals on. The only reason we bought the car was because our old car was having problems and we expected that after 15 years. But we did not expect to have a car that cannot be repaired after only 2,000 miles.
No damage has resulted yet. But it will cause damage to the transmission due to early shifts and increase in the mileage of the car prematurely, as we also run the risk of getting speeding tickets. We purchased a 2009 Borrego ls 4x4. After signing the contracts we were told they would have it for us later that day. The one we wanted was having to be brought in from another dealership. Later that afternoon we received a call from Eli saying it would be the next morning before it would be ready. We agreed to wait until the next morning to get the vehicle.
When we got the call the following morning from Gurpep, the sales manager, he said they found a vehicle for us but it had gray leather interior and that it would cost us an additional $1200. We refused to pay for the upgrade and Gurpep said he'd call us back if he was able to work it out. A short while later he did in fact call us back and said he was able to get on shipped to us and it would be at the port on Monday and we would have it Monday afternoon. Then on Sunday afternoon, Eli called to tell us that the vehicle was being shipped to the port and that it would be 2 weeks before we'd get the vehicle.
I explained to Eli that they have already delayed in getting us a vehicle and that I would not wait for another 2 weeks. Not when I know for a fact the vehicle we want is sitting on another Kia dealership lot a few hours away. I know this because I called around myself to locate the vehicle. Which is what Gurpep said was one of my options. Eli then told me that "it is what it is".
So basically I was being told that what I wanted as a paying customer isn't important. I felt the promises made to me about being able to deliver my vehicle were all lies just to get me to buy the vehicle. Because as soon as I gave them a check for the $31,000, the excuses started. This isn't the first time I've bought from Kia, but it will be the last. The way this dealer represents the company is totally unprofessional.
After making the deal and while waiting on the contracts to be prepared, our salesman Eli started talking about car audio with me. After learning that I was once an installer, he began to ask questions about the problem he was having with his car and wanted my advice on how to fix it, he even went as far as to pull up the schematic for his vehicle (a 1998 Honda Civic I believe) and asked me to explain it to him. I offered him my advice, but when he called later that night to inform us that it would be the next morning before the car would be ready for delivery he once again asked about his car.
Eli even went as far as to ask if I would look at it for him the next morning when we came to get the new car. That, as a professional, should not have happened. It is unethical to ask clients for favors during the process of making a deal on a new car, which leads me to question the reasoning behind the dealership not being able to deliver the vehicle I paid for as promised.

On March 27, 2009, I had my 2001 KIA Rio towed into KIA, because after not being driven every day and sitting for a few months, everything locked up. Absolutely nothing worked. Before I had it towed, a friend of mine came over to look at it and determined that the 80amp fuse had blown (which is odd) and that definitely, the shifter going into the transmission was locked. At that point, he didn't want to get involved further because of the warranty that is still on the vehicle. I told KIA the 2 issues but also told them I wanted the car back up and running.
So after a week of having my car, they replaced the transmission (under warranty), replaced rear breaks & shoes, wheel cylinders and machined rear drums (not under warranty); replaced both inner and outer wheel bearings, clips and seals (under warranty), and machined front brake rotors (not under warranty); replaced all spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, and fuel filter; cleaned throttle body, oil change and filter; performed a complete fuel injection system cleanup; rotated and balanced tires; and changed all belts as the timing belt, ac belt, alternator belt (not under warranty) with a bill of $1500.00.
After all that, I picked up the car and my radio and AC still didn't work. I questioned them about that, and they said they could take it back in and rehook it up to diagnostic (for a fee) and see what the problem is. Yeah, I don't think so. A week later, I took my car to Best Buy to have them look at the radio (which they did fix). But they advised me that my 80amp fuse was blown. I then called KIA to let them know that they did not replace it as I asked them to with all the work they did. They then had to order the part, which they don't even know what that does.
in the mean time of waiting for the part to come in, my car started to make a clunking noise from the right front tire. I took it in to them, and they drove it and took it apart and said they couldn't come up with anything wrong. Everything was tight and there. But, the 80amp fuse had come in, so they did put that in for me.
On 4/20/09, the noise was still going strong, so I took it back to KIA, demanding they go with me for a test drive to hear the noise I keep hearing. After that, they determined it was the wheel bearing, so they replaced it. They had replaced it just on 3/27/09. I drove away, and all was fine until 4 days later when the noise started back. I then took it back to KIA, and then, they determined it was a warped front rotor, so they re-machined it again. They also did that back on 3/27/09.
I drove away again, and all was fine until 5/3/09 when the noise started back. At that point, I was fed up with KIA, so I took my car to another local mechanic. He took a look at it, not knowing any previous problems and determined it was the front rotor. He machined it, and I have not had a problem with it since. I just recently took my car back to my local mechanic to have the AC checked out, since after KIA, it didn't work; and he said it's electrical.
I also thought I was a having a muffler problem, and it turned out the humming was actually a wheel bearing. I called KIA this morning, 6/11/09, so that I could talk with someone about this issue because they said they don't have a corporate number. And after being disconnected and calling back, i was informed the general manager was in a meeting and he would call me back about this issue. It is not 5 1/2 hours later, and I still haven't heard a word. I want my car fixed and fixed right. I do not want to go back to the dealership that can't seem to fix my car.

I have had to replace the O2 sensors in my car 3 times because they keep malfunctioning in a car that is only 2 years old and bought brand new. As if that wasn't enough, last time they replaced the sensor, since I was there, I also changed my oil. One month later, I went to a different place to change my oil out of convenience and boy, am I glad I did. They found that Precision Kia had left the knob loose on my oil tank so I had been leaking oil for a month, but more astonishingly they left a foot-long LED work light next to my exhaust pipe. It was literally melting onto the pipe! When I called Precision Kia, the head manager of the service department didn't even return my calls. I called for three days straight before I was able to reach him and he told me "these things happen" and proceeded to be very rude and condescending. I still have a rubbery smell going through my car and I have missed a lot of work having to keep going to the dealer to get these O2 sensors replaced. I will never buy a Kia again!

We purchased a new KIA Sorento in 2005, and it currently has 51,000 miles. In October 2008 I had to replace the driver's side rear brake caliper and pads. In June 2009, I had to do the same with the passenger's side rear brakes. The caliper locks up and wears the pads. I have owned many vehicles and have never had to replace calipers and brakes after such a short period. I have a 32-year-old Ford pickup and have replaced one caliper during its life. I have made these repairs myself to save money plus the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from is no longer in business. Each repair has cost me about $150.
Another problem with this vehicle occurred almost from the beginning. For no apparent reason the battery will be completely dead after setting overnight. Our first thought was that we had left the lights on but that was not the problem. We even remove the keys from the ignition when parked. It will only do this a couple of time a year and has caused me to carry a spare battery in the rear to cover an emergency. The dealer could find nothing wrong. We love our KIA and we were ready to purchase another, but now I have my concerns. Does my 10year/100,000 miles warranty cover these costs?

I have a 2000 Kia Spectra and it has been one thing after another. It started out as the check engine light--which they told me I had been pumping gas with the engine running. So they reset the light, but after a while, it went back on. So now, it is my fuel cap. I bought a new cap and reset the light, which, again, came back on. Now, it needs plug wires. When I replaced the wires and reset the light, guess what? It came back on. We replaced the wires several times until we decided to check it ourselves. We found oil on top of the plug (bad valve cover gasket). Kia replaced that three times. I had to pay for plugs and coil packs. Now, the transmission has gone out and the horn doesn't work. The gears are stuck, the air bags don't deploy after being repaired (by Kia) and the axles have been replaced.

I took my son's 2004 KIA Spectra (purchased in 2005) to check a transmission problem (trying to lock between 0-32mph – a clunk sound). This just started. I checked the transmission fluid and everything looks okay, but the transmission is not good. I discussed the facts with Douglas, KIA employee (very kind person), and he said the dealer cannot honor the warranty because the car's transmission has never been serviced (36,000 miles according to manual).
The car has a little over 44,000 miles (half in freeway miles) in 4 years of ownership and I do the maintenance – checking all fluids and doing oil change every 3,000 miles (Mobil 1 - fully synthetic oil). The car has never been in an accident and is very well maintained. I admitted that I wasn't aware of the 36,000 miles service because I assumed it would be around 60,000 miles, as with American cars.
I don't believe the flushing would have prevented this malfunction. Otherwise, it would have given some skipping or other less abrupt signals, but not trying to lock itself. After 35 mph, the transmission does not give you any indication of malfunction. This condition is a defect and not improper maintenance. They are supposedly replacing the transmission and I will be charge for $1,900.

Late Oct. 2002, the wife and I bought a new 2003 Sorento. You have to admit it's a very good looking vehicle but 3 months later, every time I'd depress the brakes, the SUV would shake and bounce all over the road. I brought it to the KIA dealer. They said it was the rotors (to which they rotated) and it was fine for another 3 months. I went back and forth 3 times like that until I got furious and told them to change the rotors on the brakes, and they finally did. You have to get totally belligerent with them for any action to be taken. (Their mechanics are KIA-certified but would rather work on American cars as I noticed a while back.)
It takes forever to get anything done as they are all gathered around American cars instead on working on the products that they've sold. Another thing for the past 2 years, I have went through 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (thank God, they had a recall on it a while back) and the car has been at the dealer for three days now and they will not give you a loner or rent a car. The 10-year warranty on KIA is false advertisement as it ends after 5 years when it becomes powertrain only. The weekend is here and that leaves me stranded for 6 days, or let's hope that they have the problem fixed on Monday.

The dealership has been okay to work with. My complaint is that I have had my car into the shop 5 times for the lights. 4 out of the 5 times, I have had to pay for the light bulbs that were put into my car, only to find out at a later date there was a grounding problem and then the wiring harness under the headlight that was making the lights go out. This last time I took it in, I had it in on a Friday, parked it in my drive way and did not drive it until Tuesday morning and the fog light still did not work. They told me it was unplugged and they fixed it. I returned it the next morning and then I was told that the light socket was bad and it is just normal for when the car bounces around.
I have been very frustrated with my car and the lights on it. I bought the car less than three years ago and did not expect to have such problems with the car. I want the money refunded to me for any bulbs that I have paid for or I will be taking this to the next step. Please make note that I have filed this complaint about the car and not the new car sales manager at Bob Sight Kia. I just wanted to be treated fair and receive the services that I paid for when purchasing the car. I paid for an extended warranty and it doesn't seem to cover the little items that I was told it would cover. These light bulbs have not been normal wear and tear on my car. Five times in the shop for the same thing is unacceptable.
The other sad thing is there are four other people in my family that have purchased Kias and we are very disappointed in the quality that I have had with my car. I do not want an attorney to contact me about my complaint. I have my own. I just want this on my record of my car that Kia is aware of what is gong on. I have not had any work done on my car at any other shop since I bought it. I had the Kia dealership do all of the work on my car just for this reason. Thank you!

As of May 22, 2008, I bought my Kia Spectra. And two weeks later, I started to have problems with it. The check engine light came on, but they found nothing wrong with it. Then 5 months after I bought it, it stalled on me in traffic. Then in November of 08, I noticed the brakes were very weak. And I took it to Kia but they found nothing wrong again. Well, in December of '08, I had 250 yards in front of me and the guy slammed on his brakes so I did the same. I had the brake pedal all the way down to the floor and it was not slowing down at all. So I pulled up on the e-brake and with the two pulled up and, in all that distance, I only slowed down to 30.
I hit him and I could not believe it did not slow down. Never has that ever happened to me. On top of that, the air bags did not deploy; not one of my six air bags deployed. As well as my seat belt, it did not lock up. I was tossed into the wheel as well as my wipers do not work right. They will stop in the middle of the window. It is not safe to have to worry about being able to see the road. This and everything else I am going to list has happened after I bought the car.
My AC stopped working in April of 09. This black mat that was to be on the upper inside of the hood was laying on my eng. My tranny shifts very rough but the dealer just was like whatever. My brakes don't always work right; sometimes they are firm and other times, more often than not, I might as well not even have brakes. My car has stalled on me from the second week. I had it till just last week. The check engine light comes on often and, when it does, the car is very rough and does not want to run smooth at all. But then, it goes off just like it came on without a warning. And then the other day, my car stalled in traffic and I almost had another crash from this car going south on me. It is only 12 months old. And I had to replace a bolt in my seat; it came out of the floor.

I bought my 2003 Kia Sorento in Halifax in 2006. It only had 60,000 km. It worked fine for about a year until we moved back to NFLD. When I got off the boat May 24 weekend, it broke down. I had 3 kids, 3 cats and a dog with me. First, I couldn't get any help from roadside assistance because it was May 24 weekend, so when I did get help, they towed it to Corner Brook. I had to find my way to a hotel, pay for it and then find a way to get to my Sorento, which is hours away. It was the pulley gone. When that was fixed, it worked fine for about a year besides the headlights. We go through way too many of them. So now, a year is up. We are having all kinds of trouble with its engine, light comes and goes, and to turn on the wipers, you have to turn on the heated set button. It says that a door is open, the dash lights blink off and on and much, much more wrong with it.
I never bought it here in Newfoundland. They put me on the back burner. Well, it picked a bad time to breakdown. They even told me to bring it back to where I bought it in Halifax. I asked them if they were going to pay for my way up there. So now with all this trouble, I have 100,000 now and they are saying that it was sunk in the water. Come off it, I still have extended warranty on it but they won't look at it. They told me to bring it home, park it in the yard and let it rot. And if I got a backyard mechanic to look at the warranty is void. Well, somebody has to fix it for me. I have nothing else to drive, nowhere to turn.

We took the car in for check engine light to our only local dealer. He said it was frost and turned it off. Light came back on within 15 minutes. We called the dealer who said not to worry. As a result of this, our timing belt went and the engine is now toast. We live an hour out of town in the middle of the Yukon wilderness. There is very little traffic and lots of bears. In the spring, we walked. We called and made a complaint and we were told that warranty expired, too bad. We called a second time to the head office in Canada and were told they spoke to dealer, warranty expired, too bad. This is not good enough.
We have 1 dealer and have to rely on them for service. I have purchased over $100,000 in Kia vehicles over the past 8 years and none of this was taken into consideration. There was just the answer, "We're sorry, it's past warranty; too bad." We took the car in like we were supposed to do for all warranty work, for all problems encountered, no matter how small, and always paid the bill, never collecting on warranty. Now, to be told too bad, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. They are not servicing properly, allowing warranty to expire and then forcing people to deal with the consequences themselves.
I would love to hear from others who have had similar timing belt experiences or other similar experiences, period, and get an open forum discussion going concerning a class action suit.

Within a few miles, he noticed a severe rattling from the engine and a loss of oil pressure. He immediately ceased driving it. Note that he had the engine maintained before the oil change and it was in perfect running order and the oil pump was working perfectly. My brother was involved in an accident with his 2001 Kia Spectra about 2 weeks ago. He was stopped at a red light when a Chevy Cobalt hit him in the rear traveling somewhere between 30 and 40 mph. His car was forced into a Chevy Silverado that was in front of him totaling the car from the front and rear. The impact was so severe that the front bumper broke in half and pushed through the radiator all the way into the engine past the wheel wells along with the hood, fenders, and everything else that was attached to the car. The rear trunk lid, rear side panels, were pushed in all the way to the rear wheel wells. The impact caused the exhaust (muffler and tailpipe), brake lights and rear bumper to fall off the car. It broke the driver's seat in the backward position, never to be moved up again. The air bags never went off. He was lucky to escape with his life. Injuries are still yet to be determined.
Kia said that the car's front end was hit too low for the airbags to go off. There isn't a front end on the car anymore. Why are there all these complaints about this car and KIA and nothing is being done? I personally think that someone needs to arrange a class action lawsuit before someone gets killed. Why does Kia even put the airbags in their cars? Just to say that they have them? They don't work!

At about 30,000 km, my new 2007 Kia Rio had problems with the transmission, resulting back to April of 2008. The car had problems changing gears, and the check engine light came on repeatedly. After several visits to the dealership, they said the problem had been fixed. Within a week, the problem was back again. This happened for the period of one year - going to various Kia dealerships in Newfoundland and Labrador, and then to the one in Grande Prairie. I have paid money out because they said there was "no problem found" with the car. Finally, in April of 2009, the trouble with the transmission was diagnosed. They said they would order a whole new one in, but they were on back order for the time being. The client was advised that it was okay to drive the car.
On the 25th of April, the check engine began blinking. As a technician advised, I did not drive the car after this problem. They will not do anything for me, as the car is not able to be used, and I am still making payments on this vehicle which will be 2 years old on April 30. I have had numerous problems with my 2004 Kia Sorento. The first issue was the four-wheel-drive engaging at 58k miles. I took it in; the dealership blamed it on the rims and said they were rubbing. I took it elsewhere and they said it was the 4-wheel-drive. I took it back to the dealership, they said rims. I took it to Tire Place, had them switch out the rims, etc. back to stock and it still was engaging. By then, the dealership said my warranty was up because I was just over 60k. I told them that it wasn't when I brought it in originally and they misdiagnosed it. They claimed that they did not misdiagnose and it was the rims. I called Kia; they did nothing to help and although I thought I had a 100k warranty and all outstanding evidence, they would not honor it.
Now at 68k, I have a head gasket out, straight exhaust gas coming in, cooling system, etc. and still the 4-wheel-drive engaging problem and they won't adjust the warranty or do anything. They are horrible; they don't care about people. Now, I have a car I owe $10K on and can't afford the $3k to fix it. What to do now? Someone would have warned me about Kia. The auto service center said the warranty should be adjusted because it is not supposed to happen on a car with that low of miles and, of course, Kia once again won't honor anything nor do they care; they don't have to right it.

The car is now being repaired, but how much damage has been done to other areas of the car since the tank had holes in it? I am sure debris and other things like water have gotten into the lines of the car and affected it in a bad way. So it is a matter of time before something else goes bad. Let me begin by saying, DO NOT BUY ANY KIA PRODUCTS! I have a Kia Rio 2003 that I bought in early 2004 with 21 miles on it. I bought the vehicle because of the 100,000/10 yrs warranty it had. I thought WOW! This is a good deal. Boy was I mistaken. It turn out that I had been driving my Kia for about a year and the clutch went out on it - I could not drive it at all. I towed the vehicle to the dealership, and said they should fix it - after all it has a "bumper to bumper" warranty still. The service dept. told me that the clutch was not covered under the "bumper to bumper" warranty. I said, it's called "bumper to bumper" so obviously it's covered sir. “Well no, technically the clutch is considered normal wear and tear and is not covered just like the tires”, he said. I was so mad. I spoke to the manager. He said the very same thing I ended up leaving and fixing my car at another place.
My car now has 69,000 miles. I was driving it to the local supermarket when it stops in the middle of a busy intersection. It would not turn on at all. I was almost hit by several cars, after pushing the car an agonizing 1/4 of a mile to the nearest parking lot. I called the roadside assistance to get my car towed to the dealership. As soon as I got there I told them what had happened and one of the mechanics of the service dept. told me that it sounded like it was the engine had stalled. I said good - it is covered by the 100,000 miles/10yrs warranty. He said yes and no. Yes the engine is covered under that warranty, but if the timing belt caused the engine to stall then it is not, because the timing belt is not considered powertrain; it is considered regular wear and tear. You can imagine how I must have felt.
I kept arguing with the man for about an hour, and I said “Well how do you know it was the timing belt? Do you have x-ray vision or something?” He said that he could check the car for me but it was going to cost me $95, but he was more than sure that it was the timing belt that had slipped causing the engine to stall. I was very mad at this point and I towed my car back home, because he said it would cost me about $2000 to fix a car for which I still owe money, and it’s not even worth the metal they used to build it. So now I have a 2003 Kia Rio with 69,000 miles on it under a tree rotting away and still paying for it. GOOD LUCK if you plan on buying one. 100,000 miles/10 yrs warranty my **. I looked into what Kia considers powertrain and this is what I found in their website under warranties. This is straight from the website.
The items covered by the Power Train Limited Warranty include: In the Engine: Cylinder block, cylinder head and all internal parts, timing gear, seals and gaskets, valve cover, flywheel, oil pump, water pump. In the Transaxle: Transmission case and all internal parts, torque converter, drive shafts, universal joints, front hubs, bearings, seals and gaskets. In the Axles: Axle shafts and C-V joints (couplings), seals, hub and wheel bearings. In the Transmission: Transmission case, transfer case, torque converter and all internal parts, seals, and gaskets. In the Differentials: Front and rear differential assemblies, cases, all internal parts, seals and gaskets. In the Propeller Shafts: Drive shafts, universal joints... So then I ask, why wasn't my car fixed if it fell under the specifications of their stupid warranty? The answer is THEY'RE CHEAP! CHEATING, LYING, DECEIVING, MISLEADING, CONNIVING PEOPLE. I'll say this one last time. DO NOT BUY ANY KIA PRODUCTS!!!!

The dealership took the car and called us the next day to say it was fixed that there was a hole in hose. Within an hour of again leaving the dealership the car died again while driving. They again took the car in and returned it 2 days later stated it was repaired. One day later the car again dies will at a red light and again while driving. The dealership again took the vehicle in and sent it to a Kia dealership to be fixed. They replaced the throttle sensor and said it was fixed. 2 days later the Kia dies again while turning into oncoming traffic. The Kia goes back to the Kia dealership. This time they replace the fuel pump and fuel tank sensor and give back to me as repaired.
The car drives okay for approx 40 days then again dies while sitting idol. The Kia dealership checks everything. States not much they can do since the check engine light does not come on and everything checks out. They do state the fuel pump relay is not sealing properly and reseal and return as repaired. On the way home from picking up the vehicle it dies while driving 3 times (approx 15 mile drive). As of today the 16th the unit is back at the Kia dealership and we are again waiting for the call that it has been repaired. I purchased used but what are my rights?

My husband bought me a brand new 2005 Kia Sedona mini van, fully loaded. I say this because the more you have on a Kia, the more there is to go wrong. My van has just been picked up and taken to the dealership on a roll back tow truck. This will be trip number 16 since we have bought this van that only has 33,000 miles on it. The problems started 3 weeks after we bought it. I have had 6 DVD players, a new ac compressor, new speedometer, in 6 times for the front brakes that still are not fixed, malfunctioning alarm system, malfunctioning remote start, battery discharging problem, door locks sticking, transmission slipping and now a whistling then a pop and the smell of something burning with my 4 kids in the van on the way to school.
The only good thing I can say is that the road side assistance got a tow truck to me in about 20 min. But guess what, I have 4 kids, 1 mini van and the dealer does not pay for a rental. So now I have to figure out how to get my kids to school again because my fully loaded hunk of junk can't do what it was bought for: carry my children safely where they need to go. So much for trying to the best for your family because Kia doesn't care that I carry 4 kids around in that vehicle and I can't afford to keep paying for a rental and we did all we could to pay off our van in a year. If I knew it was going to keep breaking down, we should have let them repo it. We would have been better off.
Don't count on the Lemon Law because it is not set up for the consumer at all, it is just a false sense of security that until you try to use it, we think is there to protect us. Huh, what a joke. And the people they call master techs, what a joke. I wouldn't want some of those guys cleaning my yard, let alone fixing a car that I put my children in. I have been lied to, deceived, told things were fixed when they were not and let's not forget my time and frustration from having to deal with people who don't care about the safety and well being of me and my children. The only funny thing about my Kia is the joke that my tow truck driver told me that Kia stood for killed in action. These issues has caused me stress, rental vehicles inconvenience.

I have a 05 KIA Rio. The headlight burnt out few weeks ago, I purchased a new bulb from the local auto parts store and attempted to replace it. The plastic headlight has a spring to hold the bulb in place. When I tried to reset the spring, the plastic holding the pivot side of the spring broke. I brought it to the attention of the service manager Heidi. She told me that even if it was a manufacturer's defect, it broke while I was doing my own repairs so I have to pay the outrageous price of 200+ for a new headlight assembly. It is unreasonable to expect someone to bring their vehicle to a dealer to replace a 10 dollar part. Let's say for example, if the police had stopped me and I had only 24 hrs to replace my burnt out light or pay a hefty fine, how would I have time to bring it to the dealer since it takes a week to get an appointment? All I want is for them to acknowledge the part was defective and replace it.

I bought a 2004 Kia Spectra brand new with 4.8 miles on it. 10 months after the purchase, (on Dec. 16, 2004), I was in a minor accident where I rearended a small car. The damage to my car did not look that bad. The hood was dented in and the Kia logo on my grill was pushed into my radiator, but nothing serious. I took the car to the dealership where I bought it, (Bradenton, Fla.) They fixed it, and I got it back a month later. The job they did was mediocre at best. Within a week I noticed that the airr conditioning wasn't working correctly. When turned on, it made a loud, almost screaming sound and wou7ld blow hot air. The car was back in the dealership 4 times in about 2 months. They kept saying that they couldn't find any problems. On the fifth time the car was brought in, I told them that I had notified the better business bureau about this problem and suddenly the car was fixed. Since then, I have moved to Delaware and havebeen experiencing transmission problems. I have had the car in the kia dealership in New Castle County 4 times (they only remeber 3) and they can't seem to find any problems. My transmission is sticking badly and each time it's worse. I'm scared that I'm going to be killed in this car. This morning on my way to work was the worst incident yet. I was on the highway and with no warning the car would not change gears. I was doing 50-55 mph and the rpm's were stuck at 5.5. The car was roaring and my speed was dropping but the rpm's were staying sky high. I was scared to death. Please help me because I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm stuck in a death trap.

We have a 07 Rondo that is still under warranty. We had a sudden engine problem with the car. My husband checked the fluids etc... On the car before calling the dealership. The dealership picked up the car checked it out? and called us back in two days. They told us that the car was out of oil. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt but that was a flat out lie. The oil was checked before the tow truck took it. The car was full of oil and there were not oil spots in the drive way.
The person at the dealership had said that whoever changed the oil last did not tighten the oil plug on the bottom of the car. My husband changed the oil last and as I had said there was no oil on the drive way. We were told it would be about $6200 for an engine and $2000 for labor. We bought the Rondo because we have children and needed an ECONOMICAL car. Needless to say that amount of money is absurd! The problem should be fixed under warranty.
After towing the car back to our home at our expense and paying for the diagnostic fee at the dealer ship, we now have a car that we cannot drive and surprisingly the day after we brought the car home there is an oil spot in our driveway. Someone had loosened the oil screw. Kia does not seem to be customer friendly to me. Good Luck if you buy a Kia I have reports of others that have had similar problems.
We are a family of 5 that has a brand new Kia Rondo sitting in our drive way that we are making car payments and insurance payments on that we cannot drive because we cannot afford to get it fixed. Kia customer service (Richard) told us that they have to take the word of the dealership. We bought the new Rondo because we needed reliable transportation. HA. I Will NEVER buy another Kia and nor will anyone in our families. You can decide for yourself.

My wife and I recently bought a brand new Kia Rondo with 18 miles on it. We paid cash for the vehicle in order to avoid expensive interest payments. While driving the car home for the first time my wife noticed that the windows make a whistling noise like the window is cracked open. Any time the vehicle is driven over 30 mph the noise can be heard. The very next day my wife made an appointment to have it looked at. The dealership couldn't tell what was wrong with it so they opened a case with Kia.
After 3 months of going back and forth with the dealership and Kia they told us that the noise wasn't a defect but part a characteristic of the model and that it is not a substantial impairment to the value, safety, or use. The brochure on the Rondo claims that the Rondo is equipped with a range of structural and technological refinements that reduce cabin noise and road vibration to deliver a quiet ride. I can hear the wind noise over the radio.
Needless to say my wife and I are very upset. My wife hates the car that we bought for her to drive. We are concerned because they can't determine what is causing the noise. We also have two children under two and the recent link between Autism and white noise makes us fearful of placing them in the car.
I feel that this seriously effects the resale value of the car. It also could have long lasting effects on our childerens development and hearing due to the high pitch and decible level.

We bought a 2004 kia sorento at a local ford dealership in 2006 we bought an extended warranty from ford along with the remainder of the bumper to bumper it allready had. We had dorve the vehicle for about a month and then the interior lights and dash lights kept going on and off and the shifting was not right it was not shifting in to first gear when it was first started. Took it to laurel ford kia and they said they found nothing wrong it they suggested I need to learn how to shift a manual. Thats quiet funny since the first car I learned to drive was a shift.
I asked if they had switched on the head lights they said no what for and I said how are you going to be able to see the dash and interior lights go off if you dont have them on? Then they turned them on and saw what I was talking about. They would have to order a relay switch then after they had not called 2 weeks later I called them and they said they had the part set up a time bring it in and I brought it in and then they had the wrong part ( I had been sitting in a waiting room for around 3 hours with 3 kids). They would call me when the new part came in. After another 2 weeks I called them they had ordered the wrong part again.
I decided they were very incompent so I took it to another kia dealer. They told me that did not think kia would cover it since I was now past my bumper to bumper warranty but kia did and they said they fixed it at this same time I had informed them that it was hard to shift so they checked that said my clutch cable was bad and when test driving the vehicle they noticed a roar in the rear end. They contacted my extended warranty and approved the repairs it was there in the shop for a month. Then when I finally got it back. We decided to stop to eat and noticed that steam was pouring out from under the hood. They had left something off and we had to go right back.
Then my check engine light came on they reset it and before I got next door the light had came back on. I did not have time to take it back right then but called the next week and took it back in I also told them the shifting was even worse than before and they checked that and said now my clutch plate was worn out. I got it back this time and got home noticed the check engine light was back on then a piece broke off the radiator and now we had to have a new radiator and resivor, not to mention the windshild washer fluid would not come out.In all it spent around two and a half months and check engine light never was fixed they said nothing was wrong with it lol, and close to 6 thousand dollars in repairs.
On top of that the vehicle was wrecked (hydro planed and fliped several times) the air bags never off the kia ended up upside down and hit a very big tree and the side air bags never opened and the passanger door came open the occupants were very lucky they had deep cuts on arms and head hit the windows breaking both of them out. Physical damages were head injuries, cuts, and bruises. Economic was insurance deductables, out of pocket cost, along with time lost.

DO NOT BUY KIA! If you own a Kia and are having problems with it, PLEASE take the time to report it to the following websites: and to the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov and to www.autosafety.org. This the only way we can get Kia to be accountable. I have had nothing but problem after problem since purchasing my 2004 Kia Sorento EX new. Most recently my transfer case failed. A new one would have been $4,000.00! A used one would be $1500.00 to $2500.00. I had my nephew take the transfer case out for me and his father replaced the chain. The only place to get the chain from was directly from a Kia Dealership. It costed $309.00! According to a tranny tech this is a mark-up of $270.00!
Other problems I have experienced with this vehicle consist of rust on the tailgate and rear doors just a few months after purchasing, all kinds of electrical problems from headlights and tail lights burning out numerous times, the digital dash for radio and heater going black, the heater not work, a relay swith for fan failed, foam between windshield and frame coming out tapping on the window, a problem with the coolant reservoir, the rear driveshaft failed, the transmission had to be replaced and most recently the transfer case. Safety issues and concerns would be with tail lights and headlights burning out prematurely and frequently and the crankshaft bolt broke causing to loose all ability to steer the vehicle.
I have dealt with the dealership, with Kia Motors, Inc., the Attorney General's Office, taken them to Concilliation Court, written to senators and representatives, etc. All has failed for me. Today I made complaints on the websites I listed above. Hopefully, SOMEONE will help all the Kia owners that are stressed, frustrated, endured financial losses, lost work time, and possibly had safety concerns/issues due to Kia selling defective vehicles. Any suggestions?

Im sure of this, i am being violated by KIA not complying with their warranty. I towed the vehicle in on Thursday because of internal engine problems. Well Brit Hirting of the BIG BELL ROAD KIA, has the nerve to tell me that he doesn't want to waste his time looking at it because there is no oil in the engine and that its my fault. Then gets stern with me demanding a two history report. Well i faxed it to him. He is well aware that the engine has failed back in FEB 2007 less then 13K miles ago, but still demands a two year history report. Ok then so i faxed it while i was on the phone with him. This is what i don't understand, he is assuming things just looking at the car himself. He has technicians that are paid to diagnose problems so they can fix it. He is taking initiative on himself to look at it with no credentials. On top of that, then has the nerve to tell me he gave me an hours worht of labor time looking at it, but all he did was pull the car in, drain the oil, and pull the car out. Wait a minute, BRIT, you told me there was no oil in the engine, no you are telling me there is a 1 1/2qt of oil?
They don't offer a loaner vehicle program at all, nor do they compensate expenses used on my part for further transportation. My intention of buying this car was the patented warranty, that has been disclosed to me the first time my engine failed that you have to be the orignal owner. I bought a vehicle so i can independently transport myself for personal reasons, work, and just maintenance services. Now i live in Cave Creek, and they know that. There is no city transit in my area. The closest one to me is on Tatum & Deer Valley, right next to the DESERT RIDGE MALL. SO that means, i need a cab to get down there to just take a bus. Well my job is around the valley, i don't take the bus, thus far me buying this vehicle because of the circumstances. No i have to shell out more money for transportation, meanwhile still making payments on the car that they don't want to waste their time.
Unfortunately, if you would to contact them, its like putting a fire under their butts. I want more than just the satisfaction of my warranty. They are putting a damper, real stress on me. Not only its affecting me, but family and friends to rely on rides, putting a damper on the relationshi because i have to rely on them. My work, because my boss lives down in Queen Creek and once and awhile we get jobs up here in my area, but most of them are down by Gilbert. He is worried to make appointments and not follow through with because i don't know i can get a ride or borrow someones car to get down there.
How can i take care of my life when i have something i took for granted because i was covered under a 'WARRANTY' and in the mist of an actual problem that they try to pin it on the consumer. So if i was a female in this position with knowledge, they would of taken advatage of that. You see where i am getting at? Is there consumer laws against this, especially a dealership that doesn't back up their own warranty from defect, like internal damge to an engine to actually give me a loaner car? The first time they did the rebuild of the small block, i still didn't get a car and to rely on people then, just like i am presently. Please contact me, because i might have to make decisions, that might not be best judgement on my behalf.
My car has about $8K on the lien with my bank, and its just sitting at the dealership as a paper wieght still under amnufacturers warranty. Its a 2004 and it has about 53K on the odemeter, but 13K on the rebuit small block. Im in a position that KIA put me in and how can i get out of that and still make affordable payments to survivie in this crap economy? Its shows its getting better, but both you and i know that looks are deceiving and never know what the honest truth. I don't know if it is a reflective of our economy, but i would have known to have repeat business and a reputation that they would be taking care of me. Its like they sold me the car well knowing it was a rental at first, but still gave the warranty, well knowingly it was rental and now a problem is persistent because the engine failed a second time and they don't want to claim responsibility for there negligance. If they would of told me it was rental, or because of it being a rental there is no warranty and i would of continue walking on. Im stressing out about this and if you really say what you guys really are, then what can you truly help me out with?
Yeah i need a new car, but i just got screwed even trying to get rid of the one i have now. Anyway, my point of that is the position to actually move on from this crap. Its a bad emotional damage in my head, because of the circumstances and how nothing is being done to actually resolve the situation. For example, wouldn't you think i would be getting phone calls from the KIA delaership my car is at because the engine is failed and they would try to be selling me into another car?? Not even a single phone call, but rest assured, i will get a marekting phone call, e-mails, mailers from my original purchase. Its about a good 40-45 minute drive down by you.
By all means i want to get out of this ASAP, but its kind of hard when i have someone pulling on a rope that is tied around my waste. Now they tied a huge rock at the end of the rope and threw it into the deep blue sea, so now i am surviving for air. In other words im getting really tired. I have a lot more information, facts, evidence, etc. they are allowed to get away practicing selling fraud vehicles.

My wife and I own a 2004 Kia rio that currently has 114K miles. The car has been a good car up until the last year. In Feb. 08, I developed a very nasty misfire after changing sparkplugs after 30K miles. Normally this has improved the perfomance of the car, but this time made things very much worse! After several days, five sets of plugs($100+), a new spark coil ($170) and many hours of frustration; it was discovered by a trusted mechanic that the issue was a electrical harness that had "worn thru"! Repairs to this harness cost $170.
The car ran weel up until a week ago when while waiting to make a left hand turn, the car sudenly stalled out. I attempted to restart the car, which failed and siezed the motor completely! I have checked the starter, alternator, battery; all tested fine. On the advice of my mechanic, I also check to see if the timing belt had broke ( a common thing in Kias as I have learned), it also was fine. I attempted to roll the timing belt by placing a wrench on one of the cam gears and to my surprise, it would not budge!
After doing some reserch, I leared that many of the 04 models had issues including recalls for crankshft bolt sheering causing engine seisure. This was a know issue, yet no recall was issued for the Rio line, no service bullitens issued, nada! So we are currently driving a loaner form the local Kia dealership (2008 Spectra, 200 actual miles) and it appears to have issues as well as the check engine light has come on for no reason! This does not boade well in my confidence in Kia. We currently owe aprox. $3500 on our current note for the 04 Rio, and facing a repair bill of $2500 for the repairs.

I have an 03' Kia Rio Sedan that I purchased at the end of 02'. I have had nothing but problems with this car. Over the last year I have had some major problems where I would be driving and I would come to a stop sign and the car would hesitate and stall and I would push on the gas and the car would just sit there. Then if I were coming to a turn at a intersection the car would hesitate and I would push on the gas and it would sit there and then all the sudden the car would take off kind of fast. At this point I had already almost been rear-ended and side swiped more than once because my car does not go when it is suppose to. It didn't do it all of the time but quit often.
So I took it to the Kia Dealership and they would keep the car for a few days and tell me nothing was wrong with it. Then it would do it again the next day and I would take it back and I took it to them numerous times and I would just get the run around either nothing was wrong or they changed a fuel pump or they had to re-wire something. Every time I took it back it was a different story. Finally the check engine light came on and I took it to them right away and they said it had something to do with the fuel injection. So they replaced it. Then it happened again a few days later and I took it back so at this point I have been car less for so long depending on someone else to drive me to work. Finally I got mad and had my dad go with me and we talked to the manager and told him that we were going to TOM MARTINO if my car didn't get fixed. Right away he was quick to help get this car fixed.
They put me in a rental car for about 10 days (they even paid for it). They said they did everything possible to figure it out and they said it was the transmission and they replaced it. (not to mention every time I took my car to them they said they had the #1 & 3rd best Kia mechanic in the world working on my car...liars) So about 2 or 3 months (July 08') later it starts up again. I'm in the middle of an intersection trying to cross through it and my car stalls I almost get rear ended (again) and then I almost get side swiped (again) because my car took off and stalled in the middle of the intersection. I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant and I don't need this. This car is paid off my first car that I have ever bought. I have taken it to all its maintenance things and it still don't run correctly. My car has a little over 50,000. miles. It is in the shop as we speak and has been there since Wednesday. Bryan the service guy I deal with barely called me 7/16 to tell me they haven't figured out anything and that the Kia Manufacturer from where ever is consulting with them.
Then I called him back today 7/16 and asked him if I could get a rental car and he said I can get you one for a day or two. I said so because you guys can't find out what's wrong with my car I have to suffer. He then said oh I'm sorry your warranty doesn't cover that. I'm like you know what you guys are jerking me around I want my car fixed or you need to get me a replacement vehicle. He said he's waiting for an e-mail from the Manufacturer to e-mail him about something and he would get back with me. Well he got back with me and told me all the sudden my car was ready. I pick it up and notice it still didn't feel right but wanted to see if it was going to be ok. The next morning I was driving it and I slowed down to read a sign and it died out on me, I put it in park and re-started it and it died again. It took me four tries for the car to start back up.
When I got home I called the dealership again and talked to the lead Service guy because I'm sick of dealing woth Bryan who gets nothing done. This guy Steve basically just listened to me complain about my car not working yet again and told me I could bring it in AGAIN on Monday (7/21/08). I don't know if it's because I'm a female they think they can treat me this way, but I'm not going to stand for it. With as much time their mechanics waist, cost for parts and labor all these things they are doing they could have just given me another car. I cannot believe I have went through so much crap to get a car fixed and it never gets fixed. My warranties were all still active through out all of this except now I have finally hit 5 years or 60K miles. I really need your help on what to do? I cannot afford to be with out a vehicle.
What am I going to do when I go into labor at work and need to go to the hospital, I don't have money to pay for an ambulance ride, my employees are not considerate enough to drive me to the hospital. I need my car. I love this car but I rather get rid of this car already because I have had so many problems with it, but I cannot afford another car payment. PLEASE HELP ME! I don't know where else to turn. I will never willingly do business with a Kia Dealership again!

recall on faulty heat shield and gas tank. heat shield corroded and split. rusted apart and slit my tire. had to have shield cut off. gas tank ruptured when i was in new jersey. had to chance drivin with my daughter and grandchildren in car. returned home 7-8-08. called dealer 7-9-08 and was told to bring my car over to sunbury 7-16-08. could not chance gas leaking all over street. dropped car off 7-10-08. garage called 7-12-08 and said they miraculosly had a opening and was replacing the tank.
they said i had to pay $140some dollars for the heat shield. i feel the heat shield should be covered by the recall since the heat shields are defective enough to allow the salt to form between the shield and tank. especiall since all the danger and aggravation me and my family were put through, and what it cost me for a ruined vacation and gas to move the car. i was getting about 15 miles for $17 dollars worth of gas.
that took a lot of money to return back from jersey and to drive the car to sunbury, let alone the tension i endured from the gas leaking. extreme cash payout for gas. not because of price per gallon, but because of loss. also, i am 56 years old and it has my nerves a wreck. i had a expensive ruined vacation. and had to suffer nervousness because of the danger of leaking gas. thank you.

To make a long story short, they refused to repair the vehicle because we could not produce the records that they asked for. When I persued them they only treated me rudely. This is the worst car that I have ever owned, the worst dealership that I have ever dealt with and their unwillingness to honor their warranty's, should be investigated and prosecuted as consumer fraud. They have perpetrated this consumer abuse on many, many customers. Just ask anyone who owns one of these vehicles. Final out of pocket cost to repair this was over $2,500.00 dollars.

Kia Rio 2003 broke down after 2 days of purchase. Since then 4 sensors have broken on the vehicle and I have not even owned the vehicle for more than a year. After getting it back the same problem seems to exist (high idle, stalling problems) After getting it back the forth time the car came back with the engine light and accesseration problems. There is not customer service and the sales people lie. The warranty I bought I found out after trying to use it does not cover everything and has a 200 dollar deductible everytime it is used. Which is really worthless.

I recently had an accident. A vehicle ran a stop sign and hit me in the rear by the drivers side rear tire. The impact of the hit caused my vehicle to roll twice before stopping on the side with the passenger side on the ground. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt did not hold me in the seat. I ended up on the passenger side with a lot of cuts and bruises and it knocked me out. I feel that if the air bags would have deployed, I would not have had the bruises on my head that cause me to have dizziness.

I bought a new Kia Spectra off the showroom floor in May of 2007. A week later the car was rear ended causing minor damage to the rear fender. In September I started having trouble with the car. 1st it was the rear defogger would only clear 1/2 the window. I took it to the dealership and was told that it worked fine. When I went to leave for work the next morning it again did not clear the entire window. Took it back to them and they replaced the rear window. Next there was rust forming inside the gas door and on the trunk lid. They deemed the rust inside the gas door "dirt" and repainted my trunk lid.
The next problem was that the car would get stuck and not shift into the next gear intermittenly. They reset the computer and I have not had that problem again. Then I noticed a noise coming from the engine that sounded like a loose belt. They said they heard no such noise. I also had them look at the gas door as it would not unlatch sometimes. They said nothing was wrong and it opened every time for them. The heater then started to turn cold while driving then back to warm. It was especially bad on a hill. They said that there was a bubble in the antifreeze. I also had then again look at the gas door because it was getting harder to get it to unlatch. The manager told me he still did not see a problem but would replace it for me.
Then in December the trunk started to leak. It smelled like mildew and was rusting inside the trunk. I took it in and they said they could not find a leak but they deodorized the car. I got a call that the gas door did not need replaces it just needed adjusted. When I picked the car up I could not get the door to unlatch and showed it to the sales manager. He replied that I needed to make another appointment with the service department which was closed at this point. It rained a few days later and again the trunk was soaked. They did nothing about the rust the 1st time. This time they said that the light needed resealed and they scrubbed off the surface rust. The trunk started leaking again.
When I took it in this time the manager came out to the vehicle and popped the gas door and it opened the 1st try. He said that it was not an issue until he could see it happen. I left the car there for him to deal with the leak. After I left he called me and was very irate that I did not inform him the car was in an accident. I explained that it was december and the accident happened in May. He said come get your car and don't be surprised if you get a bill for the repairs that we have done. If anything else goes wrong you need to go through the body shop that fixed your car. I then filed a lemon law case. They will not give me anything because they are blaming everything on the accident.

I am complaining about my warranty on my Kia Sorento not being honored because I had my work done at an auto repair shop after my car broke down. On Sunday 6-15-08 I was driving and my car just stopped. I was in the middle of the street on Arrow Hwy. in Rancho Cucamonga. I was by myself and scared. My car finally started after about five minutes, so I drove it home. My house is about 5-miles from where I broke down. The next morning I called Don Lee Auto service and told them my situation. Upon getting into my car to take it there, it started then shut off again. Again I waited and it wouldn't start until about 10 minutes later. I drove my car to the auto shop. My car was diagnosed with the cam and crank sensor going out. I was told that I should not be driving my car due to it would stop at any time and that would put me in a lot of danger. My car was in the shop from 6-16 through 6-17. My repairs came to $918.20, but all I am asking for is $570.80. That is what it would cost just for that repair. I had a tune up too but I am not asking for that to be reimbursed. Never having a problem with my car, I didn't remember I had a 100,000 mile warranty. That was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to get home safe and not get into an accident. After I paid the bill and got home, that is when I remembered about the warranty. I called Kia so I could send my statement to them so I can be reimbursed. I was told I would not be able to be reimbursed because I didn't use their roadside assistance and take my car to a Kia dealership to be diagnosed, and so Kia can put in Kia parts. I explained to Kia that Kia parts were installed in my car. I was told it didn't matter because I didn't utilize the roadside assistance. When my car broke down I was scared and by myself, that was the last thing I thought about. I just wanted to get out of the middle of the street and get my car repaired. All I am asking is to be reimbursed for repairs done. I have a warranty and I think they should honor that due to how my car broke down.

This is in regards to my Kia Sorrento 2003. I have an ongoing issue with my vehicle. My vehicle keeps stalling and no one can seem to figure out why. When driving the car the car will just shut down even attempting to push down on the gas peddle. I have taken it to different Kia dealers and no one can assist me. When we took our car to the shop back in 2007 KIA customer service gave us a case number which did not help us solve our issue. We have tried writing calling taking our car to the shop several times. My Kia Sorrento is still under warrenty and for months no one has really attempted to find out the cause of the vehicle stalling.

Monday June 9, 2008 Van did not start called to have it towed to dealership, its under warranty Tuesday June 10, 2008 called to see if they had done anything was told the van needed a battery and they needed my authorization. My husband James gave them the ok. Wednesday , June 11, 2008, I had to call again. I was told the car had very little oil and that they could put oil in and I could take it or they need my authorization to do diagnostic test on the car and I gave my authorization. Thursday, June 12, 2008 I again did not hear from them. I called them at 4:30 , they claimed they still didn't know what was wrong with the van. Friday, June 13, 2008 I did not hear from them .I called again at 5:00 and was told the engine had seized and it could cost between 4 and 6 thousand. At that point I said how could that be? The van did not show any engine lights coming on or any other lights for that matter. Shouldn't a light come on to say something was wrong or to check engine? I was told by the service man it should have. Here is my question, there are 39000 miles on the van. The last oil change I made on the van was at 32000 miles . Do you have a logical explanation for a car driving 7000 miles with no oil and then it ceased?

We Own a 2005 Kia Sorrento. Upon buying the car we were told that as long as we kept with the scheduled maintenance Kia would homour the 100,000 mile warranty. We took the car in for the 60,000 mile service work to be completed. While dropping the car off I also informed the service worker that my check engine light was on and if they could check that out. Needless to say the work was completed and I was told that everything was alright with the car. Within one week the engine light was back on. I called to make another appointment but before I could take it back in my engine started acting as if it wanted to shut off everytime I got to a stop light. All this happend on a friday. I did not drive it for the weekend and took it back to the shop that following Monday morning. That evening I was told I needed some new spark plugs and some replacement belts along with a recall that had been ordered. At approximately 4:30 that evening I was called and told they needed to keep my car over night because it was not starting after all the work had been completed. The following day at about noon I was called and told I needed a new engine and they were deciding if it would be covered under the warranty. Within the hour I was called and told that I had not followed my maintenance schedule and they would not cover the work under the warranty. I informed them that I had followed the schedule and had not ignored the maintenance schedule, I just did not bring it in to Kia. I was then told to find all my reciepts in order for them to honor to warranty. After calling around trying to locate all the services done I had them faxed over to the service department. I was then told that I did not have enough proof. I then called the corporation headquaters to see if I could get any assistance. After speaking to several representative. The Manager of Consumer Affairs, Consumer Affairs Representative, I got No Assistance. The Federal Government and Department of Consumer Affairs really need to investigate this company. If this many consumers are having problems with this Company and its products

I own a 2005 Kia Sorento. This car has around 57,000 miles on it and, the transfer case has gone bad. We have gone rounds and rounds with the dealer and KIA for 2 weeks now that this should be fixed under the manufacture warranty, let alone we bought an extended warranty. Transfer case service is not due till 60,000 miles. According to them, the oil is black and it has not been maintained. We have provided maintanance records and they still are deniying the coverage. The part alone is $5,000.00, not including labor. The car isn't even worth much more than the part. KIA stands by their 100,000 mile warranty...NOT. I am so disgusted with KIA I will never own one and will discourage others who want one. They make JUNK!!!

In December 2007 I purchased a new 2008 Spectra 5 with 17 miles on it. In March 2008, I noticed the paint was bubbling and chipping off. I went to the dealer, they took pictures and said the distrcit manager will have to see the vehicle in person as the pictures were not clear enough. I had to wait unitl May 2008, when the district manager would be on-island. The district manager told me that it was bird droppings causing the paint to come off and that the 36,000 mile paint warranty would not cover that. I told him that it was not bird droppings and I refused to let that be the end of the discussion. He then said I could go and get independent auto body qoutes/estimates saying that the paint was defective and not caused by bird droppings and they would paint the car. I did this and was then told that the description on the quotes was not descriptive enough to relay defective paint. I called the Kia head office and was told that they would first go to the district manager 9which I had already done) and then go to the regional manager. I was guaranteed an answer within 75 hours so I will wait until then. If I hear nothing I will try to go through the Hawaii Lemon Law, but have heard people having nothing but difficulty with that avenue too. If anything happens I will let everyone know, all I want is my car painted!
