Update on 12/15/2018: I appreciate Ella from Good Sam wanting me to contact her. I have responded as she requested. It remains to be seen if she is genuinely engaging to help, or doing a PR response. I'm hopeful that she will give meaningful assistance!!
Original: Up to today, would have given Good Sam 4 stars. But received a letter today from Robert **, Claims Department, Good Sam Roadside Assistance, CANCELLING YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN 10 DAYS. I'm a Good Sam Lifetime member. I've been a paid member of GS Roadside Assistance for 7 years. In Nov. 2018 we had an engine breakdown on my 31' Class A in WV and needed a 24 mile tow to closest international dealer. Estimate to fix is $13,000 CND. It appears that Good Sam will promise to be of assistance until you need the assistance. WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU, THE PROMISE IS FOR MINOR ASSISTANCE. Appreciate the tow, which GS was most reluctant to provide at the time. They had trouble getting a tow company, because of GS's reputation in the industry. I eventually had to negotiate it. I've been dumped and that's good for only ONE STAR!!

A couple years ago, I had a blow out on our right front tire. I was at milepost 39 on I-80 in Nebraska, besides having a hard time even communicating with them, they left us sitting alongside the freeway all night (14 Hours). I finally was able to find help myself. I subsequently cancelled my plan. Well after two years I decided to try them again. I have tire minders on my motorhome which as I arrived at my RV park, Thousand Trails in Palm Desert, CA my tire minder said I had a flat, it wasn't all the way flat but like 1/2 down.
I called Good Sam to help me out only to find out that unless you have an inflated spare, which how many 40 foot motorhomes carry a spare, that it would cost me a minimum of $80 service fee for labor, they never told me that the road service was only covered if I had an inflated spare. Anyway, I just cancelled again and will never have anything to do with Good Sam again and suggest that you don't either, they are a rip off.

I received a letter and offer to join a Good Sam program called Tire and Wheel Road Hazard Program for Motorhomes and Trailers which was to be if you have a tire and or a wheel damaged to where it can't be used that I would pay for it to be replaced while traveling and Good Sam Tire and Wheel Protection would reimburse me for the costs for the damaged tire or wheel. On Oct 2, 2018 I had a tire to blow on I-75 in North Georgia. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance. I paid them $390.00 which included the technician service call, new tire, new valve stem, and old tire disposal fee.
The next day Oct 3, 2018 I made my first call trying to be reimbursed. They told me they needed the DOT # on the old tire! I called the Good Year in Georgia and got it and for a month I spoke to "7" of the company's representatives and finally on Nov 8, 2018 was told that I didn't have a claim because I was to keep the blown tire as evidence. I explained, "You charged me and I paid for the tire to be disposed and besides that I'm in Florida and you're in Colorado, how am I supposed to get it there?" And I didn't have it. They charged me $12.00 disposal fee so why would I keep the tire. They said they had to verify what the tire looked like, I explained, "I'm in Florida. You're in Colorado. How are you going to look at the tire." I have spoken to "7" Good Sam representatives to be told I had no claim for $179.00 reimbursement.

I bought a new RV Road Warrior 420 by Heartland in 2016. My wife and I thought it would be a good idea to carry the extra coverage after our warranty ran out. We took it to Camping World to have repairs done. The automatic leveling system wasn’t working correctly. It would go into to error code and would not level up the RV. We had a condensation drip in the back a/c unit. The converter stopped working, and there was a plumbing leak in the storage area, there was a short in the 220 volt plug on the side of the RV for the power cord. Total repair cost was $750.
Good Sam would not pay anything on the repairs. Camping World said they have a way to get out of the repairs. I think they are together on this. They told me at first there would not be a problem with Good Sam and they would submit the claim but when I went to get my RV they said Good Sam had a clause in their coverage that didn’t cover those type of repairs. Don’t waste your money on Good Sam's coverage.

I called for a 19 mile tow to my mechanic and was told it would be an extra $79.00. When I got this it clearly stated up to 100 miles. The agent told me they only tow to the nearest repair shop. So take my vehicle to a repair shop I know nothing about instead of my mechanic shop that I know do good work. I can pay for my own tow if I have to pay an additional $79.00 for 19 miles. Had this for 2 years first time trying to use it and will not use it again or renew. I have had other roadside assistant companies that honor their 100 miles and never had a problem. Don't go for cheaper, it's not better.

Updated on 12/27/2018: It's December 26, 2018. After several months and pleasant phone calls and written apologies I received a check for what I paid for the people I got to help with my battery. If I'd been waiting alongside the road, for them it would have most unpleasant. They repeatedly told me (without saying that they were doing anything about it) that their service is better in some areas than in others! Wow! Just what I need, a roadmap that tells me where I can have a breakdown and where I can't. At any rate, it's all settled now. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.
Updated on 11/14/2018 : In a matter of hours Good Sam sent a sorrowful message about how contrite they were and that they'd work w/ me if only I'd send my membership and phone numbers. I responded quickly w/ that info. It has been days with no further response from them. Reminds me of sitting in my car in the cold and rain waiting for them to tell us they weren't going to try to help us. They NEVER called. We had to call them! It is clear that they feel that all they have to do is to seem to be helpful. "Send your money and, when you need help, we'll SEEM to be helpful." Thanks a lot.
Original Review: Our car battery went dead in a parking lot in the middle of a good sized city. Assistance was within walking distance. However, it was cold and raining hard so we opted to make use of our Good Sam Roadside Assistance membership. After a phone call we were assured that a “rescuer” was on the way and would arrive within the hour. To cut a long story short, we waited over two hours and no one showed. When we called back, Good Sam told us they were unable to provide a “rescuer” because their single source vendor was “busy! They didn't know when or if he could jump our battery.” We handled the situation on our own from that point and within twenty minutes we're back on the road. A complaint to Good Sam was met by complete disinterest. Yes, they would pay the $45 we spent, but were unwilling to make good on their broken promises. I’ll think twice before renewing my membership.

I was in northern Georgia when I notice a broke spring hanger. I called Good Sam for assistants and they were quick to send out some to repair my trailer. That's where it ends with them happy with the service. Then when the so called repair person came out it was the worst experience of my life. 7 hrs and $ 1,300.00 to repair that broke after 100 miles. After a number of calls to Good Sam regarding this all I am being told there is nothing they can do. They could at least call the repair company and help me out getting a refund. Once my membership expires that the end of me and Good Sam. Not a happy camper.

My son locked his keys in the car and needed assistance to get it open. We had GS Platinum service and all driving family members included. He called GS for assistance and they said they would dispatch someone right away. He was in Ventura at school in a densely populated area so you figure help us close by. Two hours later, his phone is dying because his charger is locked in the car too, and nobody has shown up to help. I started calling GS to get a status and was disconnected 2 times. The third time I was on hold for 25 minutes before hanging up because nobody answered. He was just about to call AAA using a friend’s card when help rolled up. No apology, nothing. They open the car and drive away. I called the next day and canceled. Never going back. Never recommending. A one-star review does not do them justice.

I read all of these reports and see the “I’m Sorry” replies which are basically meaningless because nothing changes. I won’t elaborate on our issue because they want us to sign a confidentiality agreement that states that we can’t talk about it nor disclose the amount of money we were reimbursed. Haven’t signed it yet. Is anyone on here a lawyer and knows if we have any legal rights? Would love to see a class action lawsuit for fraud or something? Consumers are traveling down the road thinking that they have great coverage until they need it and then find out they are stranded.

We had a pleasant conversation and he said the calls were recorded and that it was a teachable moment and they were going to follow up on the tow operator who hung up on me twice, but as well, the time and effort it took to understand the problems that I experienced. I get it and am appreciative of the follow up phone call. In addition he offered to refund my platinum service and offered to give my family a free GSRA year subscription. I accepted. Not because they rewarded my terrible experience, but because the associate was kind and responsive to my experience was the deciding factor. I consider this matter "resolved" and hope that the future will be brighter for anyone else who happens to use GSRA and I will be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and contact them if and when necessary. THANK YOU! consumer Affairs for making my voice heard and helping with this entire experience. It it with great gratitude, that you are here and available to help people in their daily lives.

Today is October 25, 2018. At Approximately 12:20 PM this afternoon I requested roadside assistance for my Toyota Sequoia which needed a tow to a service station 10 minutes away. After 3 HOURS I called another service and got my car towed in less than 20 minutes. During my three hour wait, I contacted SRA and they kept telling me that he would be there in 45 minutes. 45-50 MINUTES AGAIN AFTER THREE HOURS they tell me! They finally called me at 4:29 pm and said a tow driver was waiting. LOL! Not only was my car in the shop already, I was already home and calling AAA for membership. I left AAA after 27 years for that crap! Never waited more than 30 minutes with AAA. First thing I did was renew with AAA when I got home! DO NOT USE GOOD SAM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Due to poor night vision my wife needed assistance inflating a tire with low pressure. I contacted Good Sam and after an arduous process of requesting dispatch (The dispatcher asked if HHR was an acronym and asked me to wait while he over-road the computer because it did not recognize Chevy). Good Sam contacted my wife and told her that they would only tow the car to the location of their choice. When I called the customer service department to explain that my wife only need assistance inflating a tire I was told that Good Sam did not provide this service.
They would either tow the car or replace the tire. I responded by saying that when I had AAA they provided such service only to be told that Good Sam Roadside Assistance was #1 and AAA was #5 and that it was my fault for not understanding the service which I had purchased. The customer service representative then started making wisecracks about how it was not "his" company that was providing the poor service. In the end my wife was able to get her tire inflated via the help of a kind stranger, and when I called to cancel it took less time for the company cancel the service with no apologies and a pro-rated refund than it did for them to dispatch assistance.

Our Heartland RV frame started falling apart going down a state highway in Maine. We pulled into a rest area and realized this unit is no longer safe to tow. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance to have someone come and tow this safely to a repair center. The lady on the phone said, "if you can't tow it, neither can we." Really? Then what good is roadside assistance and why are we paying for it? She said she would get in touch with an RV mechanic that would contact me for pictures to see if he could help.
She put me on hold, then came back with the phone number of a mechanic and told me to text him some photos and he will see if he can help us. I texted him the photos, waited about 30 minutes then called him but he didn't answer. I left a message and he never called back. After a couple of hours waiting, we finally searched for the nearest campground and took our chances on getting there safely, which thankfully we did, no thanks to Good Sam. We never heard from them again until I let our membership expire. Now they are anxious to talk to me to find out why I didn't renew it. Unbelievable!
Thank you for contacting Good Sam. I am sorry to hear about your experience and would like to look into it. Please send a private message with your Good Sam membership number and your phone number.

My wife and I are getting ready to take a trip in our fifth wheel trailer, I looked online for roadside coverage and decided on Good Sam. I signed up and they charged my card and said I would get a temp GS card in my email, when I did not get it I called and the lady I talked to about it was very curt with me and then asked what exactly do I want, I said the temp card, she asked my email then just said nothing more and hung up on me.
I did not like that kind of service so I called back to cancel, I had to talk to 4 people to do that, finally they said that my $ 189.35 would be returned, I asked for a confirmation # and got one, after looking at my bank online I saw another $10.00 charge so I called again and they said, "OK that will be refunded too in 5 to 7 days." I just won't do business with a company that is curt with customers. I understand some people have bad days, but leave it at home, I was afraid that if I did have a problem on the road trip they would be hard to deal with, that is why I cancelled.

While traveling to PA, my husband and I broke down near Roanoke, VA. We were told a tow truck would be here within 90 min to take our truck to a dealership and our RV to a campground. After we waited, we got a call saying they couldn’t find anyone to tow our 5th wheel so we’d have to be responsible for the $125/hr mechanic roadside service call and it would be another 90 minute wait. Very disappointing. This is the first time we ever made a call and this is what a platinum membership is all about?

Updated on 05/16/2019: Called Roadside Assistance for engine battery jump start or battery replacement for my motor home. They sent a guy from a company called Jump Start in Tampa. I was in Bradenton, FL, about 45 miles away. They couldn’t get some one closer? The guy determined that the battery was dead. He replaced it with a battery that had no labels on it. That was a little suspicious. I later found out that he damaged one of the terminals. Here is a breakdown of what this guy charged me: Service Call- $172 Mileage- $112 Battery - $219. Subtotal - $503 Total with tax - $548.60 Unbelievable! I was speechless! And the guy was so nonchalant about it!
I wrote a review online on one of the consumer agency websites after which I was contacted by Good Sam. They did essentially nothing. I was cheated and scammed by an unscrupulous outfit. Subsequently, I replaced that battery in Maine. They fixed the broken terminal and put in a new battery for a total cost of $140. Good Sam needs to screen its service providers more carefully. I am seriously thinking about dropping Good Sam and going with AAA. The one good thing about Good Sam are the discounts you get on gas and at Camping World. But those discounts do not make up for the atrocious costs of the service calls.
Original review: After storing my motorhome in Bradenton Florida for six months in 2018 I found that my battery was dead. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and they sent a guy from Tampa to check the battery. The battery was indeed dead and he replaced it with another one that had no label and did not appear to be new. But I didn't say anything. When he handed me the bill I nearly fell backwards. It was over $500. He charged me around $259 for the battery, another $100 or so for the service and then another $100 for mileage between Tampa and Bradenton, despite the fact that he had several other service calls in Bradenton that day. He probably charged each customer for the mileage.
I felt robbed and cheated. I have been in Maine since June 2018 and I have had to replace that battery because it died. I had it replaced and the mechanics found that the guy in Florida had broken one of the terminals. The mechanics in Maine repaired everything, including putting in a new battery, for a total charge of $145. Good Sam Roadside Assistance needs to screen its service providers more carefully because the guy in Florida was a dishonest scam artist who needs to be kicked off of Good Sam's service providers list. Because of this incident, I am now reluctant to call Good Sam and will most likely not renew my membership.

I called since I was having issues with my batteries. Spent over an hour on the phone as they discussed the difference in sending a jumper versus mechanic. When asking about the cost of mechanics and who pays for what, their CS person suggested I talk to membership since I am an ELITE member and sometimes they can change things (her suggestion not mine). In all I was transferred to 6 different people and most seemed confused until I talked to a manager. He said -- "Look I will give you an ultimatum" (his word not mine). It was no different than what I had been told earlier -- they wasted my time and money. As soon as my service ends at the end of the year I will NOT be renewing -- that's my ULTIMATUM! There are more customer oriented services out there -- this happened to be free with my purchase -- but it did end up costing me!

Much like other reviews we were told multiple times that someone was on the way, then to be told they canceled. After calling around on our own for someone to tow our 42’ diesel pusher after an accident we were told that Good Sam had contacted them, but refused to pay the towing company’s rates. No one had ever been “on the way”. After 8 hours of being lied to, we started trying to contract someone on our own. We finally found someone and called Good Sam to let them know that we found someone. However, they didn’t realize it was a 42 footer and couldn’t do it, so we called Good Sam and let them know we would still need help. They called back and said they had found someone.
Then a supervisor called and said that since we said they didn’t need to come out several hours before, they were going to cancel the service and leave us stranded. They claimed they paid for service already and wouldn’t pay again. We called the people they supposedly paid and they said it never happened, that they called them 20 times trying to get them to reduce their rate to the point where the towing company hung up on Good Sam. They paid for Platinum service, we got zero service, just 11 1/2 hours of lies. They say they have recordings of all the conversations and they would review the tapes, that was 4 hours ago. We are still stranded, they have zero interest in helping us due to the cost. I feel like this is a huge scam that will need a lawyer to resolve. Based on the other reviews, it might be a class action.

After camping for a week we were packed and ready to go. At 9 am my camper would crank but the engine would not start, after checking the emergency fuel cutoff to ensure it was not activated I tried once again to start the camper. It was at this point the first call was made to Good Sam, I was given instructions to try to start which of course did not work, then I was instructed to try to start from auxiliary battery which did not work either but the person on the phone would not accept my word that the batteries were fine, instead she said they would send out someone to give USA double battery jump. An hour later a guy showed up, examined the vehicle, tried a few tricks and determined the fuel pump was probably bad.
Another call back to Good Sam and a good 10 to 15-minute hold which became the standard before we could speak to our service person. She asked for more information regarding our RV which we gave as a 34 ft class C Four Winds Chateau, at that point she said she would have to send out a wrecker as there we no local mechanics who would do an on-site repair. We were told a wrecker would be to us within an hour and a half to 2 hours, after 2 1/2 hours we called again and were told the wrecker had canceled and another was on its way. No reason given for the cancellation. Again we wait and no wrecker, yet another phone call and we’re told this wrecker canceled also and another was coming but would not be there for 2 more hours.
By this time we had waited five hours for a wrecker, finally the wrecker arrived but his hydraulic pump engine would not start, he messed around for 30-45 minutes until he finally was able to start the motor. We had contacted a shop in town to repair our vehicle that morning and they were expecting us, we gave the wrecker driver the name and we proceeded to the shop, we pulled in there at 5:15 pm 8 hours after our first call. Fortunately one mechanic was just getting ready to leave and was able to take care of the RV. The mechanic shook his head as our vehicle was being backed in and he said ”We were told this was a class A home, had they told me correctly we could have towed it this morning and probably have it fixed by now."
Of course this put us in the position of having to get a room for the night and wait until morning before the RV could be looked at, by 10:00 am we were informed the fuel pump had indeed failed and they were searching for one, if they found one it would be the middle of the afternoon and the vehicle would be ready to go. Without anywhere we could go as we had our dog with us we were forced to take the motel room for another night even though we would be headed home. We ended up paying for 2-night motel fees, lost a day and all because the service person did not listen to the information given her. Thankfully we researched the mechanic and decided on him not the one Good Sam was recommending, we might still be stranded.

Not impressed at all with our first experience. Waited 3 1/2 hours without shade in 97 degrees on the interstate. The person on the phone was not helpful at all and they did not return calls like they said they would. The fuel injection pump went out on our tow rig (F650 flat bed that had a Polaris Ranger and a Ford Ranger on it pulling a 27 1/2 ft travel trailer). We called immediately and told them we were on the busy interstate with no shade and it was very hot out. I was made to take pictures of both sides of our vehicle (which meant standing out on the interstate to get the one) and the license plate. Mind you, we tried to explain that we could see the next exit and you COULD NOT miss our rig. Well, no callback as promised.
Finally, we got a call from the tow company. Yay! They said they were on a call and would be there in about 1/2 hour. After that call, Good Sam called to tell us they found someone and told us where we were getting towed to. Even after sending the pictures to them to show how big our rig was they never told the tow company so they showed up with a flatbed. The guy was shaking his head and apologized and said he would be back with a semi wrecker and another tow truck to pull the camper. You would have at least thought Good Sam would have told them what we had or sent the pictures so the tow company could have the right information. Anyway, the tow company was great and the place we were towed to went above and beyond to get us on the road again. I honestly thought we would be cooked on the side of the road before someone would get to us through with no contact from Good Sam.
Apologies for the lack of service. I would like to investigate further and resolve on your behalf. Please call 1-800-234-3450 and ask for the Roadside team. Thanks in advance.

I recently had to call Good Sam for a tire blowout. After getting a return call from their contractor they wanted $345.00 to come out to replace tire. I have tire coverage and roadside assistance insurance through Good Sam. I ended up changing tire myself on the side of the interstate. Went to get tire replaced with insurance and could not find anyone to take it. I had to buy tires out of pocket, now that we are home tried to get reimbursed. They said since I did not get prior approval no refund.
They said tire company had to call them first, I told them they all refused to call, I told them I cannot force someone to call and we were in need of tires. They said my problem. Good Sam is a total waste of money, go with AAA and you will be better off. I will never deal with them again and I am cancelling all policies with them and requesting refunds. I am also going to file in small claims court that they make it impossible to get your refund on tire you have to buy and do not honor their roadside assistance program by wanting money upfront to respond.

Labor Day morning 2018 in Sparks, Nevada I called Roadside Assistance for the first time since enrolling. I reported a dead engine battery and requested a jump start, whereupon, I was informed they would have somebody call me back shortly for my location details. Two hours later, a family friend came to our assistance and after about an hour we got the battery charged enough to start our diesel rig. Ten days later, after our trip, I contacted Good Sam Roadside Assistance and was asked when I finally heard from the people they sent out and I informed them I was STILL WAITING! I NEVER received contact from anybody. At that point, I was told an investigation was to be opened and I would hear from someone in 3-5 days... again no communication and it has been since Sept 11, 2018 (8 days). At this point I have no faith in the company's services and am looking elsewhere for coverage. "Good Sam" turned out to be "Bad Sam".

I get a cancellation letter in August when my membership was good until December of 2018. When I called regarding the cancellation I ended up asking to talk to a supervisor because the person on the phone said that he COULD NOT TELL ME why I was cancelled, it was above his paygrade. The supervisor told me that I had used them 4 times in a year and they did not want me to be able to use them ANYMORE. They said they had the right to cancel someone at anytime for no reason at all and that there was nothing I could do and it is what it is... ** SO FRUSTRATING. YOU PAY FOR A SERVICE AND ACTUALLY USE THE SERVICE YOU PAY FOR AND THEY SAY NOOO. Basically, pay for a service and don't use it will make them happy. I will NEVER recommend Good Sam Roadside Assistance to my worst enemy.

We will never recommend Good Sam Roadside to anyone ever again! In fact we will go out of our way to encourage anyone we talk to that they should look elsewhere for roadside assistance! We will tell them that Good Sam is more than happy to take your money, but when it comes to living up to the terms of the agreement and taking care of you in your time of need, they are a complete and utter failure. Here’s why we feel this way:
On a RAINY April 22, 2018 day our truck and fifth wheel (rig) became stuck in a jackknifed position in the mud at Seven Points Campground (Army Corps of Engineer Park) in Tennessee while trying to back into our assigned campsite. We contacted Good Sam Roadside (GSR) for assistance with getting pulled out (known as recovery services). We were asked several questions pertaining to the size and weight of our truck and fifth wheel so the correct equipment could be sent to perform the job.
GSR was told that our truck and tri-axle rig weigh a combined 33,000lbs and are in excess of 60’ long. An Army Corps employee who was working at the campground also spoke with GSR and emphasized that it was going to take a heavy duty truck that was capable of pulling us out as well as having the capability of lifting the rig off the ground to line it up with pavement so we could drive out safely without the possibility of getting stuck again. (This employee used to drive a wrecker and has seen many trucks and rigs in messy situations so he is very experienced as to what was going to be required.)
The tow truck company that GSR contacted called to let us know he was getting ready to head our way. During this phone call, the same Corps employee spoke directly to the tow truck operator and made sure he was aware of the size and length of our truck and rig and that he was going to have to be able to pull and lift us. In spite of all the warnings about the size and weight of our truck and rig, GSR sent a light duty tow truck that wasn’t equipped with a boom for the purpose of lifting.
This tow truck wasn’t any bigger than our own F350 Dually truck. When the Corps employee met the tow truck at the entrance gate he told the tow truck operator his “little” truck was not going to be able complete the task at hand. He was guided by the Corps employee to where we were and upon arriving at the site, the tow truck operator admitted to the Corps employee that he wasn’t equipped to successfully get us out but he was going to try anyway. All he wanted was to get paid for coming out!
The tow truck hooked on with his winch and was able to pull us backward so that the rigs tires were on the pavement however, we were still in a jackknifed position and the truck was still in the mud and unable to get traction to proceed safely. Because of trees, other rigs and site marker posts, if we tried to move forward we’d end up in the same position we were in. If we tried to move backward we would end up in a ditch on the other side of the road. We were now fully blocking the road and with the campground having only one way in and out, we could not remain in this position. At this point, the tow truck operator attempted to drag (not lift) our 23,000lb rig sideways across the asphalt. This attempt obviously failed as he was woefully underequipped for the task. The operator then told me to pull our truck forward in an effort to straighten the trucks alignment with the rig.
The operator then attempted to pull the truck and rig back while I tried to steer into a position to drive out. This back and forth action was done several times but the situation was getting worse and eventually the rig's nose got smashed down on to the bed rail of the truck and both sustained damage. At this point we were completely stuck… The operator could not pull us back at all and we were in a worse position than we were in originally. Let me repeat… The operator was an active participant in this final effort. The operator stated that we were going to need a heavy hauler to get us out… A much larger truck with boom lift capabilities. We did not sign, nor asked to sign, nor did we receive any paperwork whatsoever that acknowledged anything that had transpired. The tow truck operator then left.
We then called GSR and told them that the truck they sent was not the right kind of wrecker to have been sent and requested they send a heavy hauler. GSR said they needed to check with the tow truck to get his statement. GSR called us back and declined to send a heavy hauler stating that the tow truck driver told GSR that he had gotten us up on the road and we got ourselves stuck again. GSR stated they had fulfilled their obligation, and we were now on our own.
We then contacted a heavy hauler on our own and the next morning (after we spent the night in our truck) they were able to get us out in less than 2 hours. The heavy hauler operator pulled us back onto pavement. He then lifted the rear end of the rig with his boom so all 6 of the rig's tires were off the ground while simultaneously pulling the rig sideways so the rig and truck were more in alignment as well as being lined up with more pavement. Then the tow truck operator relocated his truck and pulled the rig and truck back even further so the truck and rig were straight and on pavement so we were then able to drive out of the campground. The heavy hauler operator was able to get us out of a worse situation and at the same time not cause any more damage to our truck and rig. This is what should have been done in the first place!
On May 4th we submitted a claim to GSR for the cost of the heavy hauler for $850.00. In addition we submitted repair estimates for our truck ($1500.00) and rig ($4050.00). The damage we incurred was directly related to GSR sending out the undersized equipment. Had the proper equipment been sent in the first place, there would not have been any damage whatsoever. To back up our claim we furnished pictures of the situation before and after the first tow truck, the damage to the truck and rig, receipt from the heavy hauler, a marked map showing the position of the truck and rig, pictures of the original tow truck as well as the heavy hauler. We also offered the names and telephone numbers of the Army Corp employee, the heavy hauler operator as well as another Army Corp employee (who was redirecting traffic while all this was going on) all of whom were witnesses what had happened.
One week later (May 11th), we were contacted by the GSR damage team contact (otherwise known as the ‘claim denial team’) with the result of the claim. He informed us the claim was being denied, yet he did not offer any explanation (reasonable or otherwise) as to why or how this decision was reached. We asked if he had spoken to any of the witnesses whose names and numbers we had furnished and he replied that he had not. He even made the statement that “it was our fault for getting stuck in the mud in the first place”. He was very rude and belligerent.
Needless to say, we were very upset with the finding on the claim, but also with the rude and belligerent behavior of the damage team contact. We spent the next several weeks trying to contact someone “up the food chain” to whom we could plead our case to. This ended up being a total waste of time. We were promised that the matter would be looked into further and calls would be returned. Nothing of the sort happened. We were just being told anything to get us off the phone.
The wording in the Good Sam Roadside Assistance Member Benefit Brochure regarding towing is as follows: “For each disablement event under this agreement, member is entitled two hours of either Towing Preparation Services or Recovery Services. Recovery Services include winch-out or extrication services to allow the vehicle to proceed safely under its own power”. Good Sam Roadside also claims (in their brochure) that their “representatives are specifically trained to answer questions about RV complexities and how to handle vehicle disablement situations. Explain the vehicle’s problem so we can send the proper equipment to assist you.”
Good Sam Roadside didn’t even come close to upholding their end of the agreement for us. They sent out an underequipped little tow truck when the situation called for a much larger truck equipped with not only a winch, but a boom for lifting based on the information they were given in the original call. If they had, we wouldn’t have over $5500 in property damage and an $850 out of pocket tow truck charge. We were at the mercy of Good Sam Roadside Assistance that they would send out the right equipment.

Updated on 12/03/2018: I have been attempting to settle this matter with Good Sam Roadside Assistance for 5 months. Good Sam contacted a company by the name of Certified Towing in Live Oak Fl. to tow the motorhome to the repair shop. My motorhome was damaged when they got the wrecker boom stuck under the motorhome and used the leveling jacks to try to get the boom out from under the motorhome. Good Sam turned the complaint over Allstate roadside assistance. Peter ** of Allstate called me a number of times and decided that the damage was not caused by the tow company, without even having coming out to look at the damage. Also a very rude person and hung up on me twice when I disagreed with him.
I called Safeco, my insurance co. They sent a person out immediately. He crawled under the motorhome and immediately spotted the damage. Safeco sent me check for the damage, minus the $500 deductible in a week. Read my previous review of Good Sam and you will see the nightmare from the beginning. Good Sam doesn't stand behind their contract if the company they choose (not your choice) damages your vehicle. I am totally dissatisfied with Good Sam and will no longer use their towing insurance. I have also canceled My Allstate car insurance And will no longer make purchases from Camping World.
Original Review: My 40 ft. motorhome broke a steering box in Live Oak Fl. I called dispatch on Friday June 22 2018 and asked them to tow my motorhome on Monday June 25 2018, so we could spend the weekend, since we were 250 miles from home. I was told if I wanted the RV towed Monday, I would have to call back on Monday. After calling back on Monday, about 3 hrs later Certified Towing showed. The driver said, he was told by Good Sam's the motorhome was a C not A 40 ft. class A. I have had Good Sam's towing for 10 years and they don't know it is a 32,000 pound class A diesel pusher. The motorhome didn't get towed until Tuesday June 26, because the owner of Certified Towing was at a baseball game and couldn't come until the next day.
After 4 hours, a $1147.00 leveling jack, bent entrance steps and a damaged chrome exhaust. My motorhome did get towed the next day. With all this Good Sam's is not taking responsibility. Also getting someone in their damage claims dept. to call back is almost impossible. Like I mentioned earlier. I have been their customer over 10 years. I hope someone with Good Sam's reads this and decides to help one of their longtime customers.

On 9-10-18 we blew a bearing on our 22ft travel trailer while traveling the Western Kentucky Parkway. Myself and my partner have been Good Sam Roadside members since 1995. Called them for a tow of my trailer since I was 15 miles from next exit knowing if I tried to limp there I could do extensive damage. 1st call just got my name, member # and phone # and said dispatcher would call back. Called them back 45 min. later and got a dispatcher. Explained my situation and all seemed to be going well until the following question. "Is your vehicle more than 5 feet from the white line on the side of the road?" I told him we were about 2-3 feet and couldn't go further because of a ditch.
He (Bob) then tells me they can't tow unless we are that 5 feet. As anyone knows that drives on an interstate, the paved shoulder is no wider than 8-10 feet. Your trailer is around 8 feet wide so there is no margin for error especially with a ditch or guardrail. He then says to call 911, get an officer, have them tow me to a parking lot, and then Good Sam will tow me from there! I think NOT. End of call. I call my own wrecker, he says he's not equipped to tow my trailer, but, calls a mobile mechanic for us.
He is there in 10 minutes and 1 hour later he changed 2 sets of bearings and we were back on the road after a total of 5 hours. I have never heard of such a policy and have never been refused help from Good Sam in the past. Obviously something has changed, and it's not for the better. Horrible! In the last day and a half I have traveled on more interstates and 2 lane roads...have only seen a couple areas wide enough...plus it's wet and muddy...horrible policy that is not written anywhere. Going to cancel my roadside assistance.

Good Sam's is taking NO responsibility to resolve this issue, stating that the damage could not have been caused by the two truck company THEY SENT OUT!!! Those I spoke with at the "claims resolution" department were extremely rude - not willing to help - the last one refused to give me a name and number to his supervisor. Have reached out to the Corporate Office to see if they can assist.

On September 1st my 30' Class C had a blow out on the rear driver side tire while en route to the Pocono Mountains in PA. The tire came apart and damaged the wheel well along with one of the storage compartments. I was able to pull on to shoulder of the busy highway, but didn't have any room to spare. There was very little space separating us from the high-speed traffic flow. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and explained the situation. The Customer Service Representative (CSR) asked if we were in a safe location (I said no), told me she would get someone onsite and text me the specifics. I immediately received a text, but it just stated that a GS CSR was working on my issue.
I called back after 60 minutes, connected with a different CSR and asked for a status as the first rep never followed up. I was told she was still trying to locate a service provider and would get back to me. The original CSR finally called back and said she was unable to locate a provider. She then suggested I call the police as they may be able to assist us. I ended up slowly driving down the shoulder until we could get off of the highway. We were able to locate an Auto Zone and I purchased a 20 ton jack, breaker bar, etc. to change the tire myself. So, Good Sam proved to me that I don't need them and the money I'm saving by canceling their service will pay for the tools I had to purchase. I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere, if you don't already have them as your provider. Otherwise, you might want to invest in some tools of your own, if they are your provider.

For some unknown reason that nobody could tell me my membership was cancelled. I talked to 3 people there including a supervisor so far and it is still a mystery. They keep telling me to call back and speak with some other department to find out why. At this point I don't care why anymore, I've already gone back to AAA where I know my limits of 5 uses per year. At the most we have used the service for 2 tows and I think 1 locksmith in the past year. They also claim to have sent a letter explaining why it was cancelled but I never received that letter, big surprise.
Instead our 3 household members including myself, wife and son drove around for months thinking we had coverage. I was stranded on Sunday and was told by dispatch that my membership was cancelled and customer service was closed so I would have to call back on Monday. So I promised the manager I was going to leave bad reviews for their useless service. I will never use nor recommend Good Sam to anyone. So anyway, called AAA the same day and they got the car towed with no problems. They are awesome!

We broke down just before 10 am. The brakes failed in our class C motorhome. We were able to pull into a gas station. I called Good Sam for a tow truck to be towed. There was no garages open due to it being Labor Day Monday. So they wanted to tow us to a campground. Now that is not helpful. The motorhome is at a campground and we would still be stuck. We were 80 miles from home in the same state and Good Sam would not cover any part of the tow. It was very difficult to find someone to tow on a holiday. I had asked to speak with a manager and never got a call back till 4:50 pm. So they left us with no help for 7 hours on 95 degree day with my elderly mother, my 8 year old daughter and two cats. The tow cost 802 dollars and they will not reimburse us any of it. Will not renew membership. Terrible customer service.

August 2018 started out on a camping trip towing are 34-foot fifth wheel to Truckee California. We arrived at the campground and set everything up. The next day we Decided to take a ride to town of Truckee California. Husband realize transmission was stuck in fourth gear and would not shift out of fourth. Called Good Sam Roadside Assistance asked them if they could tow the truck home and the fifth wheel. Was told they would tow truck 38 miles to Reno Nevada. They could also tow the fifth wheel to Reno Nevada. Asked why they could not tow the truck and trailer home. Was told they only tow to the nearest dealer. Would be our responsibility to find a place to stay or to park the fifth wheel to live in. How the truck is being repaired. If the truck could not be repaired it was our responsibility to find a way to get the fifth wheel home and for us to get home.
I explain to the rude person I was talking to when we purchased Good Sam Roadside Assistance from camping world. We were told it would tow our truck and fifth wheel Home.I was told it’s not their problem what camping world tells you. Boy did we learn our lesson. They would only tow the truck to the dealer in Reno Nevada so we had to pay to get the truck towed to the dealer in Elk Grove, Ca where we live and had to pay to have the trailer towed home. So we’re out of pocket $900 because we purchased something and it was not what we thought it was or explained to us. Please beware of what you’re purchasing through Roadside Assistance.
I understand Roadside Assistance has many calls to deal with but they still need to have compassion for the people that are calling in. We're thinking we have coverage then find out we have nothing that we thought we did so of course we’re going to be a little upset. All we want to do is get home Safe. I canceled our Roadside Assistance because it’s not what was explained to us when we purchased it. Anyone have any recommendations for a good insurance that tows your truck and fifth wheel home after a breakdown. Safe travels.

Go to a restaurant, look through the menu, order a burger, pay the waiter, go home. What is missing? You never got your burger. That is what Good Sam wants you to do; go home without the burger. Stay away if you plan to use the service when you need it.

I nearly never write a review but this one is necessary for others to make a informed decision whether or not to go with this company. I have chosen to go with good Sam because they offered a better price than Triple A nevertheless because of some unfortunate events I have had to use the roadside service. Obviously I do not sit around looking for reasons to call the roadside assistance program however, apparently I should not decide to call my roadside assistance when an emergency arises. I will say that they have no problem having anyone as a customer, nevertheless, do not bother to call them In an emergency, because they will cancel you at their discretion. I'm sure they love those people who continue to pay them the monthly fee and never called them however I am not the one and I'm sure there are other people who have been dropped by this Company.
I wish that I could upload the letter I received in the mail for the proof anyone desires to see however, you can take my word for it and if you would like to reach me please contact me at **. I'd be glad to forward you the cancelation letter I received. This is very disheartening because I have been with this company for 3 or 4 years. Nevertheless if you are looking for a company that will love you for your money and will not cancel your policy if you do not make any calls in an emergency this is a good company to give all your money to. Nevertheless if you would like a more reliable company I'm sure you can choose any other roadside assistance company out there.
I hope those reading this will understand that this company is obviously set up to take payments but are not interested in servicing you for the emergencies. Yes they will come out and they will do their part nevertheless if it cost them money then they are not interested in helping you. I understand that 1 or 2 tows will cost more than I pay for the membership however I do also understand that there are thousands of people that do not use their service and that is how this company balances everything out and continues to serve the loyal customers. However they have not chosen to balance out and help those that may have called more than once instead they choose to only keep those who do not call... Pitiful.

We were travelling in a 33 foot Beaver Patriot Motor Home when one of the radius rods that hold the back axle straight failed when the mount at the chassis failed. Fortunately we were only going about 20 MPH when it happened and we were able to drift off to the side of the road. The coach could not be moved as the back wheels were out of alignment and pressed against the wheel wells.
We called GS Roadside assistance and after a long telephone call explaining our location, the type of breakdown, that we may need a lowboy trailer for transport, and everything to them they indicated they would reach out to their vendors and let us know when we could expect assistance. We received a text which indicated they were on it. An hour later they called back and stated that there was no one available and we should call back tomorrow and they would reach out again to their vendors. I asked if they could call me back instead of me calling in again but they insisted that I call them in the morning.
So in the morning we followed their instructions and called in again. I gave the person that answered my GS number so that she could look up our need in the computer. She indicated that they don't enter stuff into the computer and that every time you call you have to start over. I could not believe that they had nothing and I had to go through the whole thing again. What service company wouldn't enter an issue so that they could follow through with it until it was resolved?? This was maddening and made no sense at all.
So I, after a long telephone call explaining our location, the type of breakdown, that we may need a lowboy trailer for transport, and everything to them they indicated they would reach out to their vendors and let us know when we could expect assistance. We received a text which indicated they were on it. An hour later they called back and stated that there was no one available, maybe because it was Sunday and we should call back tomorrow and they would reach out again to their vendors. They also said that they probably wouldn't pay for a lowboy trailer as that would be too expensive.
Now I could see why they didn't use the computer to track progress. It is because they didn't have any intention of doing any more than the same thing every day until we found some other help and went away. Which we did. I found a tow company some 150 miles away that said they would come and help us. They were very helpful and did whatever was needed (it took them over 12 hours) to get us to our repair place. I had to pay them out of pocket and the bill was $1845.00. I have a premium account with Good Sam Roadside assistance specifically because they indicated to me when I was purchasing that they would haul any RV up to 100 miles to a repair shop. AAA didn't offer that service so I switched to Good Sam.
Needless to say I have lost all faith in Good Sam and will stay away from all of their products in the future. They may come through when it is convenient for them but as far as I am concerned they cannot be depended on and the fact that they didn't track the call is just ridiculous and leaves you as the customer with no recourse and very frustrated.

I recently had a breakdown with my 2016 Thor class a motorhome. Using my Good Sam's Club Roadside assistance, I end up going to Camping World of Minnesota for repairs. Camping World of Madison Wisconsin is where I bought my motorhome and the Good Sam's Club Warranty. The Minnesota branch fixed my motorhome the next day. Camping World told me I had to pay them my bill of $1000.00 and send in the paperwork and receipt to Good Sam's Club for reimbursement. After calling Good Sam's to find out where I had to send the paperwork. I was told I did not get pre-approved for repairs and would not get reimbursed.
Even though I was told by a representative for Good Sam's Club and their product, Camping World, what I had to do. A representative of Good Sam's claims told me I could send a letter of what happened and all receipts to them. She said it will take several months before it will be reviewed and will most likely be denied, because I did not get approval before repairs were made. I think Good Sam's Club Charges a lot of money for something they do not want you to use, but you should be happy it's there for you if you need it and Camping World helps them sell it.

An error on my part caused my travel trailer to become lodged at an angle under the corner eave of my home. I could not move forward or backwards without causing further damage. I called Good Sam towing assistance and explained the situation. I was placed on hold while the call center operator checked with her supervisor. When she returned, she told me they could not help. Since my RV was in my driveway, it was considered a "convenience", not a disablement. I called later to cancel my membership.
The operator was extremely kind, said they handled calls like this before and he did not understand why it was not covered. We spoke for over 18 minutes while he attempted to clarify whether this was covered. After being on hold for a few minutes, he returned to my call and said he would need to speak to the dispatch supervisor, who had left for the day. He promised he would follow up with me, either by phone or email, the following day when the dispatch supervisor returned. Three days later I still have not heard back from anyone at Good Sam, nor have I received confirmation of my cancellation. In the meantime, I upgraded my AAA auto insurance to add RV coverage.
The additional cost for add-on was $20.00. After waiting the required 48 hours for the change to take effect, I placed a call to AAA for assistance. A tow truck arrived 20 minutes later. They attached a winch cable to my trailer and straightened it out. I would not recommend Good Sam Roadside Assistance to anyone. The plus side to all of this is that I will be saving over $80.00 a year by switching to AAA. Anyone thinking of purchasing an RV, or those who currently own one, I suggest doing a comparison of benefits between Good Sam and AAA (or your current auto insurance company). I wish I had done so years ago.

While traveling home in our RV, had a flat tire in San Dimas, Calif. Called Good Sam and gave them all the information. Was put on hold for excessive amount of time, then told they couldn’t find my location. Repeated info and put on hold for another long period, they finally told me they found someone, but it would be about 1 1/2 hours and I’d have to pay $220 since they only would pay $100 and something. Told the person that was crazy and I’d do it myself. A friend was with me and called AAA and they were there in 30 minutes!!! And no extra charge, so I’ll be switching to them after 7 years as a member of Good Sam Roadside Assistance!!!

We have been contacted, and GSs response has been extremely good. It's hard to get, train and keep good employees and sometimes bad things happen. All of our complaints have been addressed to our satisfaction and more. Also, GS seems to be highly interested in not letting our experience happen to anyone else.

On July 18, 2018 while covered by Good Sam Roadside Assistance, we had a towing vehicle breakdown on I-80 5 miles West of Winnemucca, NV. We also weren't getting cell phone connection. Standing on the shoulder just wide enough to get our vehicle and trailer onto, with traffic passing at 80MPH and up, temps in the low 100s at mid afternoon we were in danger. Finally, a fellow RVer stopped and offered his cell phone for us to use. Then the fun began. GS first denied that our vehicle was covered. Then wanted a lot of extraneous info. They wanted our specific address. Mile marker on I-80 in Nevada wasn't good enough.
About 45 minutes of this, and a Deputy Sheriff arrived. After listening to us talking to the GS rep, with her stating she couldn't locate us and get us any help, the Sheriff got on the phone and gave her the name and location of a tow/repair facility in Winnemucca. She argued again, but finally gave it and called them. They we going to leave my camper on the shoulder unless I paid the additional cost to tow it in, but that was minor. Whole thing took over 2 hours to get the tow truck on the way. The rest of the day went well, thanks to the Sheriff and Andreas, the tow truck driver. GS continues to pester me with renewal notices months before the end of my current policy. I think some other business might be getting my call.

Been a member for 8 years. First use was in 2015. Car broke down and took 3 hours (this was in a city with lots of tow companies) because the one guy they were contracted with was in another town. Then, I was told they could tow my brand new VW Diesel to a small, unqualified service shop 2 miles away. My VW dealer was 6 miles away. They charged me for the two extra miles. Since then we haven't used it until this year and we had an extraordinary summer. A flat, then a dead battery on one car, then two separate tow jobs on another car for a ECU problem. Now, their service was very good on all four these occasions. But, three weeks later I get a letter stating they are canceling my policy because we used it too much. We've used it 5 or 6 times in 8 years. That is unbelievable. I will never do business with this company again.

Then I wait for another 45 mins now in this crazy heat and can’t rely on Good Sam to get me off the road. They can’t be trusted. Then they tell me it’s going to cost $22.90 to take my car 4 miles to an America’s Tire center. I guess my tire company is not an approved vendor for them because they want me to use Firestone because they get a kickback or commission to go there. This is ridiculous. Don’t use this company. We had an unusual year with our cars. Each needing to use the service twice (flats, dead batteries, etc), all typical roadside assistance issues. In 40 yrs of driving we have rarely used roadside assistance. When I called to inquire about the cancellation I was told we are costing them too much - no discussion just tough luck. They gave us 10 days to get new coverage from the time the cancellation letter was dated, we were already past the date by the time the letter arrived. The last time we used the service we called at 7:30 am, they arrive at 10:43.

I am a disable veteran on a very limited budget, I bought the Platinum RV service to assist when things go wrong with our RV because it seems to cover a lot and seems worth it on paper. That is until you need to use it. So I had my rv parked in front of my home when it wouldn't start. I called Good Sam and asked for a tow to a garage. They said they can only send a mechanic first. So I agreed. He showed up. Tried to jump start it which it wouldn't do. The only thing it did was smoke from the battery and he proceeds to tell me both of my batteries where dead anyway and I need two new ones to start my rv. So I bought two new batteries. As I put them in the wrench hit the pos and negative and shorted out the computer and possibly more. I call again and explain what is happening and request a tow and they again said the same thing that they would have send out a mechanic.
I explained no that it needs to be towed to a shop because it needs a computer and will need to be programmed. They again refused and insisted on sending out a mechanic. He arrives at 615 pm. I watched him do all the things that we have already tried for two hours before he says he can't fix it and then proceeds to give me a 900 bill. I ask how could it possibly be that much. He explains that he drove two and half hours from Tucson and it's two and a half hours back so 5 hours at $120 for travel and 3 hours of trying to fix it.
As I stated before I'm a disable vet and can't afford to be taken advantage of like that. I was told that it was a two hour min at 120 so I was prepared to pay the 240 even a little more if he was able to fix it. I tell them I'm not going to pay that outrageous bill. They say, "Ok we will lower it to 750. That's the best we can do." I again ask, "For what? You didn't do anything. The most I will pay is the 120 per hour for the 2 hours that he tried to fix it." They said, "Pay the $750 or we will come back and tow your rv to our yard in Tucson and if you don't pay we will sale it."
Now I'm really upset. They try and rip me off and now they want to strong arm me. Granted this is not Good Sam direct but the thugs that they sent to me so I call my local police department to see if they have the right to tow my RV and the police tell me, "No that's a civil matter. Unless they are repossessing it with papers they can't just take your RV," but they proceed to say parking on the street where I live is illegal and if I don't get it towed they will so I call Good Sam back once again to get a tow to a shop like I requested all along and they say they won't send a tow until I pay the $750 to the thugs they sent out! This is a horrible company.
Hello yancy - I apologize for the confusion, and would like to assist. Please contact us directly at 303-728-7375 at your convenience so we may investigate further on your behalf.

This is in addition to the review I left last night. After many phone calls to Good Sam to rectify the bad situation we were in, I escalated it by sending an email to management. This was the best thing to do. Within an hour we had received a message back followed by phone calls. It seems a few employees did not have full understanding of their policies and instead of asking for clarification, they were adamant. The manager just called me again today to check on our progress and was apologetic. I fully believe this will be a learning experience for all and training will be given to make the process smoother. It has been a difficult 24 hours but Mary was absolutely wonderful and I do have faith that this will make them all better. I won't give five stars as I am rating last night's chaos and today's resolution together. Let's hope this makes a change.

Today, my husband called for Roadside Assistance as the motorhome covered by Platinum coverage overheated, and was told only one service call per day. He called me while waiting for someone to come help. Someone was dispatched and they brought oil and coolant. In the meantime, I called Customer Service and asked about this policy, which I was unaware of, and was reassured that if the RV was not able to go after the visit, a tow would be covered. I asked about the "one call per day" policy and was reassured that this was not true. The RV started and the person left.
The RV made it only part way through the parking lot and the rad completely blew. He called back and was told the tow would not be covered, in complete opposition to what I was reassured about. He was not offered a tow during his initial call but they are insisting that it was offered and he denied it. Their word against us. Now, at this moment, he is stuck at a rest area at the side of the highway, at 5:30 pm on a Sunday, where shops will be closed. He now has to find his own tow and accommodation for himself and his senior citizen parents who were travelling with him. What kind of shoddy coverage is this?

Not as advertised, BEWARE of the Towing policy. Their system said they could only tow my Prius on a Saturday for free to was a RV and body shop. If I wanted it to go to my Toyota Dealer it was going to cost me $4 a mile (over $150). I asked if they were to pull it to their approved garage and he does not work on Hybrids if I could then get it towed again and was told no. I have been a customer for 13 years and have only used them for jumps, flats and lockouts that I could count on one hand. What good does the service do me for Towing it to a glorified body shop.
I need to work on Monday, my dealership has rentals and loaners to accommodate my needs. BEWARE of their tactics. I found a business on my own that was less than their roadside assistance could offer me. If I could give them a half star I would. The kid they sent to my workplace when a needed a jump over a year ago did not know how to jump a Hybrid, I had to find a video on YouTube for him to watch. Sub Standard Customer Care.

Basically, just as others have said, the service is a scam. When you sign up you’re led to believe Service anytime day or night. After my first breakdown when the only option offered was towing, I began to realize this is not roadside assistance, rather this is roadside towing. We were never offered any real assistance only that they could tell us to the nearest O’Reilly or Firestone or some other fly by night repair Center. My most recent experience was with an agent when my truck broke down and I escalated to a “supervisor” named Rodney. This person was absolutely unprofessional in a very assuming way and extremely cocky knowing that when people are in trouble and desperate they most likely take Whatever they are given.
In my case I have the means so really wasn’t about a Frito. It was about the principle. The principle being that we as members, subscribers, people who pay for the service expect to be able to be towed to a location where there are reputable mechanics or staff. However be aware that they use a “list.” Where is the list comes from or how does generated or maintain has not made known to us. In my case the nearest facility which was an O’Reilly was 2 miles away. The facility I needed to reach for the warranty work on my vehicle was 20 miles away, they said they charge four dollars per mile and that I would be expected to pay the 18 mile difference between the two. That is about $72 when I paid roughly $69 for the membership to begin with.
So that is a total of 140+ dollars for a tow that I could’ve paid for myself. In short I’ve had to use the service twice now and both times they have failed. I am canceling my membership today and I highly recommend this service be avoided at all cost. I have yet to receive a call back from Rodney supervisor, whose name I was given as Jessica. I get the feeling they use aliases due to the way that they treat customers with no regard to the consequences for their absolutely unprofessional and offensive language and behavior on the phone.
As it stands I will pay out-of-pocket for any towing, fortunately we have the means but I do feel for those families who are actually relying on this service for help when the time comes. Do yourself a favor if you have this membership find something else, at a very minimum review what you thought you were getting on the phone with a representative and ask very specific questions about what would happen if you actually need their service and where they would take you and what real assistance they would offer. Avoid this Good Sam Roadside Assistance at all costs.

We had a breakdown on I5 south with a travel trailer here in Oregon. Breakdowns happen and we hope that when we have a service by Good Sam Roadside Assistance we would be taking care of. After talking to the initial dispatcher they determine that we need to be towed, no kidding. But they want to do tourist to some fly by night repair shop, I said no. I would call him back with a better selection. Once I called back it took the dispatcher over 30 minutes to find our location. We finally settled on one location, get the repairs done and back on the road. Guess what broken down again. This time we set up a time to be picked up in the morning as we need to find a place to stay for the night in the morn, get the repairs done and back on the road.
In the morning at the prearranged time I’m told that they couldn’t pick us up at the pre-arrange time as I was not with the vehicle. I explain to them that I would be with a vehicle at the pre-arrange time to hand over the keys. Finally with the help of a supervisor after being on the phone for 30 minutes I get them to locate the pick up. Now we get a new pick up time an hour and 45 minutes past the original time. I don’t believe the dispatchers have a feeling what it’s like to be on the road with a broken down vehicle and trying to get it picked up. I might as well just call it local tow truck company myself and get a faster response than going through Good Sam Roadside Assistance. I would not recommend this service to anyone.

About a year ago, we had a breakdown at the GA/SC border on I-95. The closest tow truck was approx 80 miles away so we had to pay 1 way of that. Our truck was never towed (they went to get coolant for the radiator) and it still cost us over $400.00. TODAY, I am waiting for a two truck for my 4-Runner and ask to be taken to my mechanic approx 5 miles away. Their answer is they take to closest place (1 mile) so again I am paying $60 for a simple tow. Called over an hour ago - no one could tell me how long it would take and only that she was, "Sorry I was having a bad day." Will never renew this membership; it's worthless.

After reading the other reviews I consider myself lucky because I was placing my service call from home not the side of the highway! Their agents are disagreeable and seem to be working from their trailers by the noise in the background. Very unprofessional demeanors. I called for a jumpstart on my conversion schoolie and was immediately questioned about bathroom and kitchen. They said they would decide what service was appropriate and if it was unsuccessful then too bad, the incident only got one response even if it doesn’t work. When they could not get out of service that way they said it had been sitting too long (parked over the winter like many motorhomes).
I used this company on the early 2000s for my Airstream and they were always helpful and responsive. I don’t know what happened but now they are only interested in the membership fee and refusing service on any grounds they can come up with. In fairness, I did manage to get my dues refunded after a long discussion with membership services, however it is now very inconvenient as I must wait 6 days for AAA to cover me and I was planning a trip for day after tomorrow thinking I had roadside assistance. It appears that long standing members will be treated better than new ones which is probably illegal also.

The person on the phone gave me phone number for help on the turnpike. Number ended up be a useless unattended number with no voicemail. I was told to call 911 if I was in a dangerous situation for help. The money I spent was a waste. Left to fend for myself. Cancelled my AAA account when I got Good Sam. I purchased a Good Sam Membership in 5-17 paid through 5-19. I received a letter in the mail on 5-8-18 stating that my membership has been canceled. The letter stated "We make assumptions pertaining to the average costs associated with individual memberships and from time to time memberships are canceled where individual membership costs significantly exceed those averages. Unfortunately, your membership utilization falls outside our normal guidelines and as such we have reluctantly canceled your membership." I would not recommend getting Good Sam if there is a chance you might use them. It is fine for them to take your money but not fine for you to use their services. Pay a little more and get AAA. They are much more reliable.

I purchased my plan 3 months ago. This week my campervan broke down 1200 miles from home, in Marion Illinois. I called for assistance and my call was answered promptly by a delightful lady named Tracy. She was friendly, sympathetic and professional. Since it was late Friday afternoon, I asked if I could just be towed to a nearby campground. She called and made a reservation for me at Marion RV Park. She called a mechanic and got me an appointment there for Monday morning. As it turned out, I needed a new engine on my 1984 van. The campground manager, Julie, was wonderful, and the local mechanic shop that she recommended was the same one that Tracy had already gotten me an appointment with. My first experience with Good Sam Roadside Assistance was 100% positive!

Purchased a brand new Outdoors RV 20RD with 1 year Good Sam Roadside Assistance. One week old, first trip out and the wheel bearing disintegrated and destroyed the axle. Good SAM could not find anyone within 150 miles of us that could tow a travel trailer because it was "too long" (24 feet). We were 80 miles from the Denver metro area. Spent two days stranded and finally had to start calling tow companies on our own. Had the trailer towed home to Denver. Spend the next three days trying to get Good Sam to tow it from our house to the dealer (5 miles). Now they refused to tow it as it was new and should be "covered under warranty". Had to again get our own towing company. Good Sam is worthless.

We have been Good Sam members for six years. Roadside assistance, regular membership, even extended warranty coverage on our RV. Recently had a dead battery and called them for a jump start. They sent a kid out with one of those pre-charged battery jump devices. It would not turn the motor over, I am assuming due to being undercharged. I asked him more than once if he was sure it had been charged up before coming out to which he said it had been. Called up the lady in dispatch, explained situation to her, she said, "Sorry you have used your one occurrence call for the day," and hung up.
Called supervisor in dispatch. He had the ultimate I don't care attitude. Called roadside assist through my Insurance who sent out someone with a properly charged device, car started right up. I feel like I saw Good Sam for what it really was that day, completely phony and far from their touted reputation they like to convey. Steer clear and go with another company.

I think this company should be shut down and have action taken against them for treating consumers so poorly. They want their money but they don't want to serve you. Any amount is too much for them. I will not accept them doing this. Other's should file to have them shut down. They are very disreputable company and have very poor business tactics. I'm not the only who had complained.

I got bounced around between dispatchers/membership/membership supervisor. Supervisor says they send out the cards at renewal time with the bill. Apparently my wife saw the cards but didn’t read the bill and we thought we were covered. It was obvious that I was not the first to do this. So I said, "No problem, I’ll pay my premium." She told me it would take 48 hours to make me active and I would have to pay for the service call.
My wife and I had been sitting on the side of the highway for 45 minutes at this point, so I said ok. They charged me $330 to have someone change the tire with my spare. Today, I realized I didn't get a receipt so I called in to request one. I was told that they don’t normally give receipts and she would have to request one to be sent to me via email. It will take 7-10 business days. I intend to drop my membership on Good Sam Roadside Assistance, Good Sam Extended Service, Good Sam Club and Camping World President's Club. My assessment of GSRA. Incompetent, but 1 star for honesty. On call for information, they couldn't point me to brochures, but I did find after 7 more clicks. Honesty star earned because they told me they continually review members and cancel them based on their own evaluation. With GSRA there is no set # of service calls. With AAA you get a specified number of service calls (depends on your membership level), and they may not renew you, but they don't cancel at any time based on criteria that isn't published and totally at their discretion. I can understand how expensive their reimbursement costs are, and when you weigh against the low fee, you are money ahead if you get one useful tow from them on a motorhome or RV. So, not bad, if they could only be relied on to provide even one tow.
For my autos, I have both AAA and road service from insurance company. Each has limitations and each can serve a purpose. As with any "service contract" you have to evaluate the cost/benefit. For my new (to me) motorhome, I will have more than one roadside assistance policy. I will also have jumper cables, TPMS/Tire Minder system, a spare tire ready, a can of liquid wrench and a 4 way lug wrench tested to fit my lug nuts, extra key hidden and will fill up with fuel long before needed. There's enough I can't control, so I am not going to ignore the low hanging fruit. I may not be changing my own tire, but if a good samaritan, roadside service or highway helper stops, I will be ready for their assistance. Finally, I am also compiling a list of lists of independent and mobile service people, to be ready when/if needed. My advice, be prepared for disappointment and have a good Plan B, C and D.

The advertising would have you believe that they will eliminate the risk of a big repair bill ruining your trip. Two experiences showed me otherwise. Two years ago my 2008 Ford F350 diesel developed an ominous knock in Austin, TX. Ford diagnosed it as piston slap and said I needed a new engine. The risk of driving was a catastrophic failure like a broken piston rod. Good Sam balked at the $20,000 estimated cost, delayed the work for weeks requiring an oil analysis, my service records, and an inspection by an independent adjuster.
In the end, they insisted on supplying a rebuilt engine. The costs of the delay, were substantial since it extended my stay in Austin four weeks. My wife had to fly home to PA. And I paid for a friend to fly and share the drive home with me. Good Sam also declined to pay for some of the repair costs as not covered under my policy. However, I was assured that so long as I paid my premium, the rebuilt engine would be covered. I was out thousands, but my truck was running great.
Fast forward a year and a half, 12,000 miles of travel. My rebuilt engine blew the head gaskets descending a 6% grade in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. The pressure and heat cracked the Exhaust Gas Recycle Cooler and caused the loss of about 2 gallons of coolant. The engine went into limp mode (reduced power) and we took it in to a nearby Ford Dealer. Good Sam declined coverage on the ground that the cracked EGR Cooler had caused the problem, and that it was an attachment to the engine, and not covered. The repair is estimated at 12,000, and once the repair is completed I’ve arranged to sell the truck. Then I’ll terminate the policy. The coverage is a poor value, and they become your adversary when you have a claim. Contrary to their ads, your worries increase if you have a breakdown.

A few days I get this message on my email… Saying, “Ugh... Ugh... Sir... I listened to the recording and our people did a fine job.”

Was finally told by a call back from them at 1:00 AM that no one could be located to send a tow truck for our utility trailer till about 10:00 Am. I told them that was not an option. We were only 3 miles from the next exit, an off-duty State Police officer stopped to assist us while waiting. Was very kind, gave us some water for our dog, and offered to take one of us to get some food at a local carryout.
Ended up unloading the trailer, cramming everything in the back of the truck, leaving the trailer in the grass on the side of the road since it needed a new wheel and axle. Which we could have replaced had "Good Sam" sent a flatbed Tow vehicle. Went back later that evening (110 miles) Trailer was GONE. Canceled our membership on the side of the road on the spot. We had stopped in Jean Nevada for lunch and when we came back we noticed that the plug from the tow dolly to the coach was laying on the ground and the right side prong was destroyed. So we had no brake lights or turn signals from the coach to the dolly. Called GSRA after over 2 hours on the phone we were told a technician would be dispatched within 2 hours to help fix our problem. The cost was 175.00 for the tech to come out labor was 175.00 the parts would be extra once he determined what was needed and we would have to pay an additional 175.00 for the techs return fee. We were 10 miles from Las Vegas. Why would we have to pay 175.00 for the tech to drive home ridiculous. I felt like we were being gouged for the most money they could get. 175 for this 175 for that "Really".
We decided to drive to Vegas without the lights. Camping World had the part we needed it cost 12.50 and one of the associates from Camping World came out and helped us replace the part. Tipped this wonderful man 20 bucks and we were on our way. Skip forward to a few days later we heard a loud sound and it felt like we were dragging something. Made it to a safe area and went out to see what it was. The mud flap and protector plate had been damaged. We did not have the right tools to remove or fix the 2 pieces and could not drive with them hanging. Called GSRA, told them our problem and was told they don't cover that. I told the dispatcher we were unable to drive anywhere and she rudely said that she didn't feel we were disabled so no dispatch. Omg.
So my husband climbed under the RV and tried to remove the pieces with the tools at hand no luck. We then took cable ties and duct tape to hang the pieces so they wouldn't drag while driving. We linked the cable ties I climbed under to loop them since my hands are smaller and then once looped we reinforced the loop with duct tape. We got back on the road and GSRA calls and wants to "talk" really basically I told them what they could do with their so-called "Assistance". Do not sign up for this. I called my Good Sam Roadside Assistance hotline, where I was explained that my car will only be towed for 1 mile to the nearest service station any additional mileage would be charged extra at a high price. I explained to the dispatch, one, that there is no service station open at that time and my car would be left out in the open subject to vandalism or theft, and two, even if a service station would be open they could not fix my car since it is an exotic custom version and needed be towed to a custom shop of my choosing or to my residence for safekeeping.
The dispatcher completely ignored my reasoning and told me that's all they can do for me. Luckily I had a friend with me in another car, he had AAA, and was able to help me getting my car flat bedded 18 miles to my residence for free. Today I called Good Sam customer service to complain and to cancel my membership with them, their only response was “Well you should have read your 10 page policy statement including small print”.

Your three ring circus did not impress me. A flat tire on a trailer should not be a 17 hour overnight wait on a dangerously busy 2 lane Hwy. Also, after speaking with 9 or 10 of your people I was given erroneous information and was told a "20.5 x 8 -10 trailer tire was not a size" repeatedly for what seemed like 10 - 15 minutes each. At minimum I spoke with 3 persons, each one giving me that same misinformation! Even your expert tire person said "There is no such size, can you go to the tire and read the big numbers and letters written on it." This was said in a rather pompous manner. He did apologize after he checked a reference and discovered that it was, indeed, a size. He then put us on hold for quite some time and returned to state that he could not find anyone with that tire. Alternatively, he arranged to get it towed on a flat deck to my home. He also told us that the towing company would be calling shortly and that they had all the details.
This started at 7:30 pm. I spoke with 5 or 6 people between 7:30 and 9:38 pm when we were told a tow was arranged and GS dispatch would be calling within 5 minutes. At ten p.m., feeling thoroughly frustrated, I removed the tire myself, unhitched the trailer and drove home leaving my boat on the Hwy, hoping it wasn't stripped by morning (which happens on that Hwy). After returning home at midnight, I received confirmation that the tow truck company had been called about 11:35 pm and confirmed a 10 am pick-up. When I spoke to the same tow truck company, they assured me that, had they been called between 7:30 and 9:30, they definitely would have arrived within the hour. This leaves me to surmise that they had never been contacted during that time (in spite of the assurances I was given by your company). Again, this is completely unacceptable service!

We had a blown tire, a bad spare, and possibly faulty breaks on the side of the highway in Valdosta, Georgia on the Saturday of July 4th. We also had poor cell reception. Rather than sending a service person out to help us since we were in a danger location, I had to call back three times and was argued with each time over what services we actually needed. Then we were put on hold multiple times for over a half hour each time. It took over 2 hours to even get a call back for a quote on two new tires and then the quote was DOUBLE what the actual service should have cost. Tires that were listed at $95 each, cost us $160 each plus they added a $250 emergency charge.
The first call was placed at 1:30 pm and we were not on the road again until 8:30 pm. That was our only option since we were told that they would not tow us on a holiday weekend. Thankfully a good samaritan who was also a mechanic stopped to offer us service with the brakes. We will be canceling our Good Sam's membership and warning everyone we can away from this bogus company. I had to have our 40FT motorhome towed by Good Sam when the fuel pump failed on I-95 in FL. They had a huge tow truck there within 20 minutes and towed us to the Cummins Dealer 40 miles away, not a nearby diesel shop. I do not write reviews, but saw so many bad reviews of Good Sam that I felt it necessary to say my experience. I also had to get pulled out off soft sand when we sank at a camping spot. Good Sam sent another giant tow truck and pulled us 20 Ft to hard ground. The tow truck operator told me without Good Sam, I was looking at a $800 tow bill! The tow bills are high since the tow truck cost $640,000. Good Sam has been perfect with us, they come quick and fix our problem. I will never be without Good Sam!

We have been Good Sam customers for more than two years. Today, we received a letter in the mail informing us that we had been removed as customers due to the fact that we have used their services too many times. We had to have two separate trucks towed a total four times in the last year due to major transmission issues while camping. Never at any point did a representative of Good Sam alert us to the fact that we were about to reach any kind of service limit, including the one that we spoke to on May 20th to schedule our last tow, who at that time encouraged us to renew our membership! We were stunned when we received the letter today, and are concerned and anxious because we have a camping trip scheduled for Friday and now we are without roadside assistance.
When I called to ask for an explanation I was given absolutely no reason as to why Good Sam makes it their practice to keep their customers in the dark about these service limits. No one carries a roadside assistance membership contract around with them to review on the side of the road during an emergency. We should have been told when we scheduled our last tow that it would cause us to exceed the service limit, but we were not. Not a word was said to us about this issue until it was too late. I will be going with a different company, and good riddance to these thieves, who gladly took our money, but didn't actually want to provide us with a service.

Broke down in our 40" Dutch Star motorhome with loss of power made the last 50 miles doing 20 MPH on the Overseas Hwy to Marathon. We were lucky enough to be able to pull into an RV Park and get a spot. We called GSRA to try to get a tow, we already had a diagnostic service done, and was told it was a fuel injector pump problem. GSRA would only tow us to the closest diesel mechanic which was 7 miles away, if we wanted to go to a certified place we would have to pay the difference at the rate of $10.00 a mile. As it turns out the mechanic they wanted me to use was a boat mechanic working out of his truck and had no place to put our rig, he generally worked out of his truck on boats! He wanted $4000.00 upfront to fix it with no guarantee, ("You bought it" was his exact words) referring to the injector pump.
Fortunately, although we "road assistance " coverage with our Insurance Company Progressive, they did all the "legwork" and found a tow company able to tow the rig to Fort Myers from Marathon for $1500.00 and then covered $250.00 of the bill. When I got home I called GSRA to make a complaint and try to submit a copy of bill for a settlement considering I am a "Platinum Member", the next guy to call me hung up after telling me "clearly I don't understand their contract". On the letter headed it is time to pay your annual dues, it clearly states; unlimited distance towing; free towing to the nearest network service facility, even if it is hundreds of miles away. I didn't know that meant boat mechanic working out of his truck!!

Traveling Sunday 5/28 and our truck (towing 5th wheel) broke down just outside of Austin, TX. Not too worried as we had GSRA. When we called the only thing they would do for us is tow our truck only to a "safe area" such as a Rest area or a Truck stop. It was 92 degrees out, traveling with 2 dogs and a cat. Without the ability to have air condition, electric, or water sitting in a rest area or truck stop. Didn't offer to put us in a hotel or pay for meals... NOTHING!! How is that considered SAFE???
Fortunately we contacted a friend that was approximately 60 miles from us. They also tow a 5th wheel and were kind enough to come get us. We were able to leave our truck in parking lot until Tuesday. When we called GSRA on Tuesday they wanted to tow the truck to Firestone. This is a diesel truck. How could Firestone help us?? We finally convinced them to tow to a repair shop within 2 miles of the park we are staying in, but at our expense. At this point we didn't care. Just wanted the truck near us. We were advised that the tow truck would arrive at 1:48 pm, didn't show up until 3:30 pm. We use to have AAA RV Plus service and guess what? We are going back to AAA and canceling GSRA. WORSE SERVICE EVER!!! All they are concerned about is the money. They (GSRA) SUCK big time.

We were traveling behind camping friends and saw that they had a blowout damaging their RV. Notified them to pull over. They were pulling a 2016 35 ft travel trailer. Tread shredded from tire throwing rubber and parts all over interstate. After pulling over to access that we could continue to next exit they notified GSRA. After my friend held for over 45 minutes she was told they could not find anyone to help us but would keep trying. In the meantime my friend's husband who has had two back surgeries and is 65 years old and my husband who has a heart condition (the reason we carry GSRA) and is 68 years old had to struggle to change the tire. This area is in the hub of truck stops and trucking companies where service is essential.
After an hour and a half they called back and said they might have found someone. In the meantime I had contacted a service myself who even though was closed and out of time was trying to find someone to help us so it could not have been that hard. All in all if you need Good Sam Roadside Assistance travel between 8-5 Monday through Friday and you stand a chance of getting help. I have carried this roadside assistance for years but will begin searching for more reliable service. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM AGAIN.

I recently bought a 2017 Keystone Cougar Camper and they really pushed on the Good Sam Roadside Assistance, they told me it's great to have and that if something happens they'll tow my truck and trailer, take care of my pets and get us home. Well I called today because I needed to take my trailer to the dealership for a warranty issue and my transmission went out on my truck. Because the trailer was in a safe location all they would do is tow the truck to get repaired. Not tow the trailer, not give me a ride home or take care of my animals. So I was stranded with no hot water in my trailer, no truck, 2 cats, a dog and a very upset girlfriend. Good thing I have AAA gold because they were happy to help. Yeah AAA is $100 a year but I would not tow my rig without it, they have brought me gas, towed my truck 80 miles home and have always been quick with no questions asked.

Just received new cards and offer to purchase Roadside Assistance at a $ 38.00 discount. Whoopie! Information on brochure, I Quote "It happens every 4 minutes. Every day of every year, Good Sam Club Members are out on the road, often far from help of any kind, and they break down. Then what? We rescue them! When we get the call, we swing into action to get there fast...and get our RV owners back on the road."
Sorry not our experience! Paid for GSRA for 10 years and in that time tried to use service twice. Once in Ontario Canada, Flat tire needed Spare installed. In Walmart Yard in town with only one Walmart but because I could not give Street corner at which I was located they could not send someone to install my spare. Not sure person taking my call knew where Ontario was???
Next time towing boat from Florida had blowout in South Carolina on I-95. Called GSRA at 6:00PM to install spare. Finally at 8:00 PM after number of calls back and forth we were told they would have someone there at 9:30 the next morning. Did not seem to care we were sitting on shoulder of I-95 two feet from edge of payment being rocked back and forth every minute by semi's. Both occasions I installed spare myself. So long story short we paid out over $ 700 over the years and received no service hence one star is high rating in my opinion.

This is the third time they cannot perform. 1st was getting a flat tire fixed on my motor home. I got it done a lot faster myself. They called me the next morning to set it up while I had it all set up the evening before and they were on their way when Good Sam Road Assistance called. 2nd was a battery issue. They could not support my problem. Got it taken care of myself. They could not help. Now towing my Corvette. They gave me repair shop about 120 miles away. It's about 150 to the house. I told them to tow it a facility near my house and I will pay the difference. They wanted around $650. The person I was talking to was confused, did not really appear to know how to handle the situation and could not answer some of my questions. Called AAA. They towed it for a lot less. I had 100 free miles of towing and they were on the spot in less than 15 minutes. The Good Sam roadside service is really questionable.

I had a flat tire on my fifth wheel trailer, and called Good Sam Roadside Assistance to have it changed and repaired. If I'd just had them swap out the spare tire, it would have been a free service call. But I was busy, and figured I'd get a reasonable deal if they just took care of it. NOT!! I was billed almost $700 for the service call and one new tire. I checked with the company they sent out, and had I called them direct, my costs would have been $368. Good Sam contracted out the service call, and the sub-contractor nearly doubled the cost to me. Some insurance! Just be very aware that the basics are all you want to use, lest it cost you way more than it should.

For $112 a year you get VERY LITTLE. They don't give you a document that clearly indicates all they pay is the initial fee for whatever company comes out to you. We had a flat tire on our RV in storage. They paid ONLY for the repair company to come out. We had to pay $87 UPFRONT for estimated labor cost to fix the flat tire! This is not what is expected. And there is very little material provided so you can understand what is paid. I'm not sure what they actually pay if you have to be towed. I am guessing the actual towing cost is yours too.
They probably pay for somebody to arrive on site -- and then you get stuck with cost to tow. Don't think of this as anything like AAA road service - it's not. All is it is them calling somebody and paying a very small portion of the cost - just enough to get somebody there. Then you're on your own. If they properly disclosed this it wouldn't be such a big deal, but they don't. They advertise it like you are going to get tire repair, towing, etc. And you don't. Plus, they are very rude. When my husband called back (in shock) and asked them to explain why we were paying $87 the employee very nastily said "the labor, the labor " -- "the labor". Very rude.

Over a year ago I bought the (Platinum) service for my daughter who was traveling across the US in a camper. Platinum is unlimited towing! While driving through Odessa, Texas. She heard a strange noise, did a responsible thing and pulled over, and called GS. They sent out a tow truck not a flat bed. The driver towed her front up! Her back tire came off and totally wrecked the back fender and back of her camper and bent the wheel. She was held up in a hotel in the middle of nowhere because of it and had to come out of pocket for this expense. She had to go through her insurance company to get relief! Because of their towing company she had to pay a $500 deductible and hotel costs! Good Sam virtually left her homeless. THEN THEY CANCELLED her. I called and complained when they cancelled and you could not speak to any kind of manager or owner or president and were only given an address to write.
They people were not helpful at all. She had called twice before for a flat tire. Then they sent a letter giving her 10 days notice of cancellation, and the letter was received AFTER the ten day period! She literally had no roadside service (unbeknownst to us and her). This company is not credible and not worth paying for. They are not inexpensive and don't ever call them because they will cancel you or send out a joke of a company to help you! They are very wrong to cancel at random when you use them! They do not use reputable towing companies either. Go elsewhere! Buyer beware! WRONG! Good Sam is NOT A GOOD SAM!

We have been Good Sam members since 2001 and have used Roadside Services for at least 12 years. We have never been dissatisfied with them until yesterday (1/16/2016). The U-joint on our Jeep came off and we were stranded on I-17 19 miles from our house heading to Phoenix in AZ. We called Good Sam to send a tow truck. We waited an hour and a half before Arizona Recovery and Towing got to us. While on the phone with GS, the operator informed us AR&T would be taking our vehicle to a garage in Mayer, AZ. We live in Camp Verde and since I am a mechanic, we wanted them to tow us to our home. The operator said it would cost us another $66.00 and wanted a credit card #. We have never been charged extra to tow our vehicle home, and we have used GS many times.
On top of that, the tow driver informed us we owed an additional $5.00 for extra mileage. GS has usually used Alpha Towing and we have never been charged out of pocket. We are very disappointed with how GS handled this call. I asked GS to call Alpha Towing and for some reason they wouldn't. Although we are basically happy with GS, we would like to know why they charged extra. (We previously had our motor home towed about 40 miles in Yuma, AZ and there was no additional charges to us.)

We just became Good Sam member earlier this year. Sunday 11/20/16 after church our car stalled on I-20 in MS. We called Good Sam for a tow to the only mechanic that was open. GS said it would be a 90-minute wait. We alerted the mechanic that a tow truck would come after 90. He said he had to close soon, but he'd wait. 90 mins later, no one came. We called GS. They gave us the phone # to contact Wolfs towing (WT). We called WT. They said it would be another 20. We told the mechanic of the delay. He was not happy but would wait. 20 later no one came. We called WT again. They let our call go to voice mail. After 2.5 hrs, WT called us and said he had another pickup in Byram, another city, and did not know when he could come to tow ours. We told the mechanic. He said he had to close the shop. We called GS to cancel and told them that WT said they had another pickup in another city before they could come.
GS put us on hold and contacted WT. They lied to GS and said they'd come in another 20. We explained to GS that was NOT what they told us. The mechanic was closed. Where could we tow the car to on Sunday evening? Monday morning we called GS to reschedule a tow. Georges towing (GT) was fast. They came, but we found out the car had been VANDALIZED overnight. We felt violated. The driver told us to call police. We did so. He said he couldn't wait. We asked him to tow our car to a parking lot nearby and we'd pay him cash. He drove off leaving us and the vandalized car on I-20. We called SG back. They said the car is now vandalized. We had to pay them $130.25 for them to schedule another tow. Give them our credit card number first. We asked to speak to a supervisor. She told us the same thing: WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE TOW. We called a local towing company ourselves and had it towed to the mechanic.
Who in the world would want to pay GS $130.25 to have it towed after all the nightmares they put us through??? If WT came as they said in 90, or even after the full 2.5 hours they made us wait, our car would have been towed to the mechanic. It would have been locked up safely for the night. IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN VANDALIZED. We now had to pay for the tow, to repair the smashed window, to clean up the total mess in the car, to repair our car, and the thieves took the $100 emergency cash we had in the car. We will cancel GOOD SAM on 12/3/16 and tell everyone about our terrible experience with them. We WILL NEVER do business with GS again.

We used to have AAA but it seemed expensive, especially to all our college aged kids and my wife. Good Sam was much less expensive and seemed to have better coverage. Plus, you are paying for just the Roadside assistance (who really needs "Trip-tix" anymore?). In the four or so years we have had it, we have used it several times. The time it takes someone to arrive pretty much depends on where you are and the time of day, but in each case we were able to get our vehicle moved to a decent service facility and never had to pay an additional dime.
Just this morning I was pulling my car out of my driveway and all of a sudden it transitioned into neutral but it was supposedly still in drive. In fact, EVERY gear was neutral. I was stuck. I called Good Sam and in less than an hour my vehicle was on a flatbed headed to my repair shop. I have the app on my phone and those of my wife and kids, and all of them have used it at least once. A small price to pay for the peace of mind of knowing someone will come if you need help.

Here is my review: I have Good Sam Roadside assistance for RV and travel trailers. My trailer had a problem on the campground, the leveling system would not work, so I could not hook it up to my truck again to tow it by myself to a repair station. I called Good Sam. My call took 45 minutes - I was waiting in the line at least for 30 minutes alone, while the guy was trying to find a service that can help me. They said they wont tow me, they will only find a service that comes, makes my trailer level and then I tow it to the repair. Ok.
I had to call them back 2 times, because he did not find such a service. In the end, after 1:30 hours I got a call back from Good Sam: They will only pay for a service driving to the campsite. Then it will cost $150 an hour, and take around 2 hours, for leveling my trailer. So it would cost $300, just to hook the trailer to my own truck and tow it into town (by myself). I gave up on them, may too expensive. I drove back and extended the leveling jacks by hand (took me one hour with a wrench and 5 blisters on my hand - with the right tools from a service mechanic it would be a job of 10 minutes). I am not going to sign up for good sam ever again. They are useless. The only service you can get from them is a jump start or tire change.

When he did, he was very proficient in changing the tires. The RV had sustained some damage to the outside and he helped us to fix that also until we could get it professionally looked at. When we were stranded with tire trouble, we called Good Sam and found out our policy had lapsed. However, as soon as we got reinstated, they helped us. Although it took some time, our tires were finally fixed and we were on our way.
Good Sam offers varying types of coverage depending on what you need for your RV. You can get a basic coverage or a premium coverage that pretty much covers anything that could go wrong when you're traveling. We've only used Good Sam services once while traveling. Since we were so far away from a metropolitan area, it took quite a while to get service. I feel confident that if we had been in a more populated area, the service would have been faster.
