Had a blowout on my 5th wheel on 8/25/2019, northbound on Florida's Turnpike at exit 278 (Minneola). The Good Sam app told me it couldn't determine my eligibility, and gave me an 800 number to call. The 800 number turned out to be Allstate Motor club, which is stupid. They wanted to charge me for the service since I'm not a member of theirs. I called the Good Sam 800 number and they informed my that they don't provide service on toll roads, and I would have to call the 'turnpike provider'. Well, there is no 'turnpike provider' for the Florida's turnpike, any service company can provide service for vehicles on Florida's Turnpike. Good Sam would not assist me in any way. Finally found someone to change the tire (I had a spare) 4.5 hours later. This service is absolutely worthless, I will not be renewing and will let everyone I can know it is nothing but a ripoff.

After 2 hrs a tire service called to find our location. Good Sam did not communicate with us. Luckily we had a good samaritan help us and we paid him. Don't waste your $$$$!!

We have just become members of Good Sam Roadside Assistance. While traveling, we had a blow out on our RV. We we were within 9 miles of 2 fairly large cities. We called for assistance and were told they would call us back. 20 minutes or so they did return our call and we were told someone could assist us in THREE HOURS!!! We were asked if we would like for them to find someone else that could get to us sooner and of course we said yes. THE END!!! No return call. NOTHING!!! When we tried to call again, we got nothing but recordings. This is the worst experience we have ever encountered. Supposedly, someone was to contact us regarding this matter and again, NOTHING!!!

My father had to use my debit card to issue a request for a jump. The car ended up starting without a jump, so he canceled the request, and they still charged me. I have been waiting over a month for a refund to be issued to my account. Everytime I call in, they give us the run around and say, "Yeah it will be in your account in 2-3 days" - yet it never happens. My dad has called several times, and each time they lie to us saying they have processed my refund. These people are thieves, I now have to go to my bank and file a claim on you. Terrible customer service, I'm a young college student who needs every penny. Yet you steal from me? For a service I never even received? If that isnt shady business, I dont know what is. And I'm going to make sure everybody knows about it.

Updated on 10/15/2019: This is the second review that I have given. Good Sam always responds with a nice comeback, but nothing was done about our experience that I recently left here. While traveling home from a TN vacation, our tire blew out back in August of 2019. GS could not find us after giving them our exact location. We ended up changing the tire yourself after tiring of trying to get them to locate us and we weren't in the middle of nowhere. I have reported this to them and they have given us no answer for this. I have since cancelled my membership as they need to be reported to the Better Business Bureau.

Original Review: While traveling home on August 23, 2019, we broke down in Loudon, TN on the side of the highway. We have the premium service with Good Sam and this was a tire on our truck. Our truck was covered with this device. Our tire blowed out. I called Good Sam and after being transferred multiple times, they could not locate us without having the app on our phone. I had no clue that it required the app for them to locate us. This was explained through the automated answer machine and I believe the rep as well when I called for help. When we described where we were to more than 1 person at Good Sam, they still could not locate us. This service that we paid for was useless at this point! My husband ended up changing the tire himself and we rode on a doughnut for about 8 hours home! I have since reported this and am waiting to hear back from Good Sam. This is not good business at all!

On Sept 5 2019 was traveling thru North Carolina at 1 in the morning with my 36 ft RV and trailer hauling a motorcycle and Golf cart. The wheel Bearing on the trailer blew apart sending the tire and wheel over 3 cars thru a parking lot then thru a fence. The trailer hit the ground in a shower of sparks. Well here I am stuck in a intersection with the police, call GOOD SAM only to have them ask some of the stupids questions. Mind you I got traffic blocked! They want to know who built the trailer! So 2 hrs go by they still haven't looked for a wrecker yet because she can`t find the manufacturer So the police says we have to do something.

Well we dragged the trailer of the road which caused more damage than needed. Back on the phone with Good Sam finally started calling wreckers after 5 hrs. only to find out they can`t get a flatbed to work for them! The police had given me some numbers. Got ahold of the second one. I called Not only to have the dispatcher call Me back and say I know you're having a bad night but if you find someone to help you let us know! GOOD LUCK she says. Last I heard from them that night. So now I'm stuck with a 657.00 tow bill and got left in the middle of night. They won`t answer the phone. John ** Do not use Good Sam ever. You will be very sorry you wasted your money.

Sept 9th 12 noon my wife and I broke down on I10 at mile marker 51, not in the Desert not in Nebraska but in Northwest Fl. At first we had a arrival time for assistance of 210 minutes which was changed 1 and 1/2 hours later to another tow company. The ETA on the new tow company was 1.5 additional hours. Which they did not meet. 2.5 hours later the driver assigned the call contacted me about our situation. I informed him our truck had failure with a rear axle seal. He informed me he couldn't handle our call and would have to get his company to send another driver with a roll back truck. He had planned on towing my automatic transmission truck from the front with the trailer attached. I made numerous calls to Good Sam and numerous calls to the towing company to no avail. My wife, our Dog and I set on the Interstate till 9 pm that night when another vendor showed up to assist us, I can only assume they were subcontracted to assist us.

Begging Good Sam to change vendors numerous times made no difference. These people that you talk to, don't care about you or your family. It's just a matter of time before someone dies waiting for Good Sam. We saw 5 FHP officers one 3 times checking on us plus the Road Rangers came by twice, none of these people had ever seen a worse towing experience and we are talking years of service. Don't trust the lives of your Family or your property to this company. Good Sam ain't about service, it's about getting the cheapest vendor possible no matter the cost. The 800 number service is criminal and especially if you keep calling back for assistance they start sending you into a loop based on your membership number. We arrived Home that night at 10:10 PM the worst day of our lives thanks to Good Sam. The story is worse than I can describe the God's Truth.

On July 5, 2019 we were traveling northbound in Oregon at the beginning of a long trip to Alaska. My husband noticed what looked like oil in the wheel well of the rear tire. We texted the picture to our mechanic back in California and they said it looked like a rear axle leak which is very serious and needs to be fixed immediately. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and finally reached a live voice although this person called Charley sounded very slow.

To begin with, the process for verifying your identification was beyond painful - I was literally on the phone for half an hour before we even started to talk about the actual problem! After about an hour I was still on the phone and he offered to call me back when he had found someone to help. After about another half an hour I called them back and when they were going to put me through to the same operator I requested a different one in the hope that someone new might be quicker to help but was told that once someone started dealing with an issue you couldn't be put through to anyone else even if you were dissatisfied! I asked to speak to a supervisor who gave me incorrect information! When 'Charley' finally got back to me it was to tell me that I had to agree to be taken miles out of our way and they couldn't guarantee that I would be taken care of until Monday which was three days away!!!

By this time I had made some phone calls of my own and had found a mechanic who could take a look at it a few miles up the road so of course we went to him and he was able to fix it. I told Charley that I would not accept those conditions. What a nightmare! Actually worse than no assistance because sitting in a rest area waiting for GS to get back to me took time away from finding my own solution. After that I added RV to my AAA roadside assistance and will call them next time. I called today - September 10 - to cancel my GS membership. The first time they put me through to a customer service dept that could not take the call from this area and hung up on me!!! The second time I was on hold for 16 minutes!!! If you sign up with Good Sam Roadside Assistance this is what you can expect!!!

I was horrified to discover after switching from Geico that Good Sam Roadside Assistance has a 1.4 Star average rating from 255 reviews. Most of the complaints were similar....Had to wait 6 hours for a tow truck. Tow truck did not show up. No service in that area, etc. When I reinstated my Geico policy and added another RV for full coverage I discovered I would be paying the same monthly payment as I am now with Good Sam without the additional vehicle on the policy which means I am saving $360 A YEAR. When I called Good Sam to cancel I was told that there would be a $50 cancellation fee. From my point of view, this is a ripoff from a company that provides an unacceptable level of service in relation to the customer reviews. From their side they have the processing of the application.

I personally do not have a valid service complaint since I have not used their roadside assistance. I could cancel the card but then they could turn the $50 over for collection. I could dispute it but it would probably do more harm than good since my credit rating is over 800. My advice is go with a company that will be there when you need them. Good Sam uses a second party company, National General for their insurance programs. A stand alone insurance company may have more interest in providing an acceptable level of service.

I had a blown right front tire last Saturday on I-10. A MH owner's worst nightmare. I have the Good Sam Roadside Assistance for those type emergencies. The three hour ordeal of trying to get help was exhausting. First 30 minute call let me know that help was on the way. Would receive a text from the vendor. I eventually did. Called him back and he said that he was not equipped to assist me on the interstate. That resulted in me having to call the 800 number back and of course go through the interrogation all over again. No record of the previous call. Started over and given an extension if I needed to call back. Again no results. Called back and no one at that extension. Found my own Tire company and $750 and 3 hours later I was on my way. Good Sam's Roadside Assistance is a total waste of money. Poor value and poor customer service. Very disappointed.

We were headed back home with our 35 ft. travel trailer in tow when one of the passenger side wheels flew off the trailer breaking all the lugnuts. The other tire lost 3 lugnuts because of the stress. We were able to pull over right away but in an awkward place which blocked some sight distance at an intersection. Called Good Sam and went through the phone tree. Once I actually got to talk to a real person and was put on hold for some time the call was dropped even though we were just barely outside City limits. Have Verizon cell service so I don't believe it was on our end. The representative I spoke to had my phone number but didn't bother to call back. So, I called back again and went through the same lengthy process to finally speak to someone.

After some transfers to different and wrong departments, and being put on hold several times the call was dropped again. ONCE AGAIN NO CALL BACK from Good Sam even though just as before they had my phone number. We had to call the police ourselves to direct traffic. We also had to try and contact several local companies to locate someone that could accommodate getting our trailer on a flatbed unit as it was disabled and could not be towed. I had Triple A for 44 years before transferring to Good Sam last year only because someone told me they had a little better service for RVs. DON'T DO IT! Go to Triple A. At least they stay with you and call back to check on your progress. I am in the process of cancelling my Good Sam membership now and have been on hold for 30 minutes so far. That would never happen with Triple A.

I called Good Sam roadside assistance yesterday which was very difficult as cell service was just about nonexistent. I asked for a winch out as we were stuck. They never called back nor did any tow truck arrive. After two hours I managed to call AAA whom I also subscribe to. They arrive within 1 hour and got up out in 15 minutes. I called Good Sam today to complain, had to wait on hold for 45 minutes to talk to someone. They said they would transfer me to customer service to cancel my membership. After being on hold for 45 minutes I hung up in disgust. Though they had my number, in case we were disconnected, they never called me back. These guys are incompetent to say the least. I am thinking of putting a banner on my rv telling the world not to use them. I will do my best to let everyone at every RV park know this. They are a rip off.

I needed my motorcycle towed which is covered under the Platinum Plan I purchased from Good Sam Roadside Assistance. I contacted Good Sam Roadside Assistance for what was needed. Received a call back saying they have someone on the way and will arrive in approx. 45 to 50 mins. I told the person that called I would meet the driver at pickup site. Upon arrival, tow truck driver was in process of leaving saying his dispatch had contacted him and he needed to respond to a wreck and him telling me he couldn't do the tow, sorry. I contacted Good Sam Roadside Assistance back stating what took place and was told by Good Sam Roadside Assistance rep the towing service accepted the call to perform the job. I was put on hold while rep assisting me called the towing company to see what was going on.

The rep came back on phone and told me the towing company told him that they couldn't perform the job due to equipment failure, which was a flat out lie. Told rep I talked to the tow driver and he left due to his dispatcher telling him to take the accident tow. Good Sam Roadside Assistance rep told me he would find someone else and call me back. Received call back. I was told they had a different towing service coming and would arrive in 30 to 40 mins. After 1 hour I contacted Good Sam Roadside Assistance back which you never get to talk to the same rep but was told by this rep he would check status. He came back on phone after I was put on hold stating the driver was in route but was tied up heavy traffic but would be arriving in approx 10 mins.

After another hour, I called the towing service that Good Sam Roadside rep had texted me that would be towing my bike and was told by their dispatcher that Good Sam Roadside Assistance had called them back and canceled their service. Called Good Sam Roadside Assistance asking why they canceled the service, they claimed they didn't, then it became a back and forth of Good Sam Roadside Assistance blaming towing company and towing company blaming Good Sam Roadside Assistance while I was listening in on the call between the two. It was left with the towing company telling me if I wanted to pay for the tow they would come pick up the bike. Fee was going to be $430.00 for a 10 mile tow. I finally gave up with Good Sam Roadside Assistance/towing company arguing and told them both I was done. 30AUG19, motorcycle still sitting and I'M DONE WITH GOOD SAM ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE!!

Sal the new operator said he would find a tow company to tow my bike. I was on hold, he came back at 8:45 and said he found one but I had to pay $257.00 to tow my bike. I said I'm not going pay because that's why I have Good Sam. He Said he would talk the tow company again. He put me on hold again. Called back at 10:00. Said they couldn't find anybody. I was left stranded. Called my friend who had a trailer and we towed it back to my house.

What a joke Good Sam towing is. Don't have people who are competent or know what they are doing. Waited 3 1/2 hours and never got any service. After having policy sold RV but did not cancel policy. On 8/14 had to use it for the first time. Called to have truck taken back to the Chrysler dealer who had service it for the same problem 1 week earlier. It had to go there for any previous work to be covered. I was told by customer rep they would only cover 8 miles to a small town mechanic and we would have to pay the other 24 miles costing us $92. Then a week later I called to cancel the policy because we sold the camper and the new vehicle had roadside assistance. I was told by Good Sam they would refund the unused coverage but was deducting the claims fee for service provided on 8/14 in the amount of $78.75. So can someone explain what coverage did we get?

My cards arrived in the mail, I called in and was told I only have the basic plan. I informed the CS agent that my cards and documentation all say Platinum. She tells me I'm wrong and the system is right. I asked how she knew that? I asked to speak with a manager to correct this and she came back on the phone to tell me her manager was busy but she could upgrade me.

I guess the point of my review is to say I'm in the customer service business and no the customer is not always right but your company and its representatives should not treat the customer like a thief or as someone trying to get over on them. I paid my money, bought a product and then was treated poorly. She acted like she was doing me a favor. I used to be with Good Sam a long time ago and thought they were great. This is my first time back with them and it was a mistake. I will be looking for other options and would advise potential customers to look elsewhere.

We have been members for 10 years never called for help until now. We went to Sekiu Washington a very tiny fishing town 146 miles from home. Just as we pulled into the RV Park we noticed transmission fluid running out of the truck. We could go no further. We talked to a local Mechanic. They told us they do not normally work on transmissions but could order us a new one for $3000.00. He also told us he is too busy to even take a look at the truck for at least 3 weeks so it would be at about 5 weeks by the time they get parts. The closest town we would be able to get our truck fixed was Port Angeles 40 miles away. We are 146 miles from home and stuck for at least 5 weeks. We called Good Sam. After a 3.5 hours on the phone with them they told us they would find a tow truck to take our truck to P.A. They would not do anything about the trailer because it was in a safe spot. They would send a text telling us when to expect the truck.

About 2 hours later a truck pulls up and the driver has orders to take our truck to the local mechanic who had already told us no he did not have the time to look at the truck. We sent the driver away (he was fine, no charge), told him we would call Good Sam but it will be hours so we would talk to him tomorrow. After 2 more hours on the phone trying to get it through to them that we talked to the mechanic and he is not a transmission man. We asked to talk to a supervisor. Joey came on the line and said, "Nope we will not send your truck to P.A. It is cheaper to take it to the local mechanic." I asked Joey for his last name and he refused to give it to me. Lost all faith at this point.

Bottom line we took care of getting the truck towed to P.A. on our own and a friend drove the 5 hours in his truck to get us and our trailer back home. P.A. Ford dealership called and said we do not need a new transmission. The truck will be ready in about 4 days. Good Sam is worthless and should be ashamed to call themselves Roadside assistance. I read several comments. NOT ONE WAS GOOD. Wake Up Good Sam.

2 months ago I had a blowout on my front RV tire. Having a good Sam Membership for many years it was time to give them our first call. Although friendly enough, it took them over an hour to call me back and let me know they still had not found any technician able to get to us with a new tire but would call again as soon as they found one. Minutes later a tire truck pulls up behind me, he happened to see us stranded and offered assistance. As this franchise tire place was 10 minutes away he said he was able to provide a new tire for $465 USD all-in. I gave him the go-ahead and as he went to get the new tire, Good Sam called back - they found a technician who could be there in 1.5hrs and including all kinds of up-charges the total came to $750USD. ???? For the exact same tire! Needless to say I cancelled them.

Bad luck but this weekend on our way home we have a flat on the rear. Good Sam called again and well over an hour later they found a technician able to come in 1.5 hours. The total including all kinds of up charges (warranty, tire disposal etc etc) again came to over $700 USD. Luck had it that we were 18miles from the Canadian border. A local tire shop was able to provide the same exact tire for $280 - delivered by a family member just on time for the technician to mount it - cost a whopping $186.56 by Transit Pro’s - no answer when asked what was actually covered by Good Sam. Technician admitted a direct call would have yielded lower cost. Seriously doubting the value of Good Sam Road side assistance is all they do is call around and upcharge/inflate the price. Victor **

We are fed up, disgusted, and disappointed in Good Sam. Having been customers since 1996, we've noticed changes over the years that have been confusing and most recently misleading. I used to get notices in the mail about our Roadside Assistance coverage, which I appreciated, as it gave me time to get the check in the mail in due time. I often paid for 2 years. Then the notices alerting me to expiration started arriving MANY MANY months before the coverage expired, as in 5 to 8 months prior, NOW no notices are received, not by mail or email. All I've received recently, during the extremely busy gardening and festival prep time, was one notice implying renewal for $69.95. I totally misunderstood that as we aren't interested in a membership, but EMERGENCY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, coverage we've had since 1996 and have NO MORE, much to our chagrin.

I just requested a refund of the $69.95 and was told I'd get a refund of $53.75 or something like that applied to my credit card but I paid by check. We no longer have any faith in Good Sam and are looking elsewhere for Emergency Roadside Assistance. We've never needed our RV towed or anything that serious, so we haven't been a drain on this plan. Over all the years we've only asked for help a scant few times and do not understand being treated so unprofessionally and shabbily. Good Sam let us down when we needed help the most.

I purchased a Travel Camper 1 month ago and was given FREE Good Sam Roadside Assistance with my membership; so I was worry-free beginning my fun travels after being injured twice last year and not having fun. While 850 miles from home in Colorado I was forced to park in a city parking lot after midnight 28 July when my electric jack got damaged until I could call for help the next morning. I found a mobile repairman with the part who could repair the camper the same day so I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance with the good news so they could assist me and I could be on the road again that day. They told me they had to go through their own preferred providers to assist me so I waited 5 hours in a HOT CAMPER IN A CITY PARKING LOT WITHOUT ELECTRICITY/WATER and no-one arrived.

I called for an update @ 4 PM and was told my request for assistance was canceled. I told them I needed the repair and a young man without a truck to haul the camper, without tools to fix the camper, and without the necessary part to fix the camper showed up after business hours to assist me with my camper repair. He was nice yet there was nothing he could do that evening to assist me with repairs because I gave him money to purchase a tool at the hardware store to remove the bent metal post on the electric jack so I could drive the camper to get repaired and he purchased a tool requiring an electrical outlet...and there was NONE in the parking lot.

So, I was stranded for a 2nd night in the city parking lot in my HOT camper when I should have been offered a hotel under the Good Sam Roadside Assistance plan. The repairman was supposed to contact me the next morning to complete the camper repair so I did not sign his phone record saying that he had completed repairs for me the night before. I did not receive a phone call from him so I contacted Good Sam Roadside Assistance after 10:30am July 30 to get the camper repaired as it was HOT staying there again and I was beginning to feel ill and over-heated and I was told they would 'NOT' assist me and that I was on my own because they had already sent a mobile repairman to assist me the night before and I did not sign his phone record at that time.

I told Good Sam that it was their fault they canceled my original request for assistance during business hours (not mine) and that the repairman was not qualified AFTER business hours to assist me as the part was not available so I needed assistance that Tuesday to get repairs done and be on the road towards home...and they refused over and over again when I repeatedly called them asking to talk to a Mgr. Camping World Company in Golden, CO had the part available that I needed for my camper repair so I drove and purchased it and they offered to repair the camper if I could get it towed to their site yet Good Sam Roadside Assistance would 'NOT' assist me with towing or any repairs.

I called Camping World in my local town where I purchased my camper to assist me and they said they tried to talk Good Sam Roadside Assistance into assisting me yet they would not so I had to find a repairman and pay for repairs myself to get home. I knew NO-ONE in the surrounding town of Golden-CO, no-one in the town assisted me yet were quick to yell at me for parking in the city lot, my phone battery was low using the internet trying to get repair assistance, and I was feeling sicker by the hour staying in HOT/STINKY camper....so I was furious how Good Sam Roadside Assistance promises to take care of their customers and yet they had deliberately let me be stranded out of state in a HOT camper for 2 days.

I finally called a Mobile RV Repairman that could drive to the lot and repair my camper since I had purchased the part yet it would cost me $200 cash just for the repair (that should have been paid for by Good Sam Roadside Assistance....NOT ME). The camper got fixed and since I was ill I began the trip home instead of doing the fun activities that I had driven so far to do in the Mountains. I had a fever and was so ill that I had to pull over and sleep in rest area for 5-6 hours on 31 July and then that evening I went to Convenient Care Clinic to get medicine so I could complete the drive home. I arrived at home late the next day after driving straight through state after state and I parked camper in street and went to bed for days...only feeling worse each day.

So, on August 5, I had to go to the Clinic again to get stronger medicines to reduce fever, cough, pain, other symptoms from illness I received from sleeping in HOT/STINKY camper in parking lot for 2 days because of the lack of assistance from Good Sam's Roadside Assistance to repair my camper or provide inexpensive hotel accommodations. The company should have assisted me as a NEW CUSTOMER right away so I would want to keep my membership with them the whole time I owned the camper; yet they chose NOT to assist me when I needed them the most out of state so Good Sam Roadside Assistance really let me down (especially when I became ill)...so now I have NOTHING GOOD to say about them and alot of bad things to say against them...so I give them a NEGATIVE 100% RATING!

I will be looking for a CAMPER ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PLAN that truly cares about their customers and how to keep them safe, protected, and traveling while on the road to have fun in their life...not leave them alone in a strange town parking lot to figure out how to get camper repairs done, parts purchased, and not get sick while away from home. I would recommend that ALL camper dealerships review customer surveys about Good Sam Roadside Assistance and take them seriously because if you are offering this service and they don't assist your customers (as they did NOT assist me)....then it reflects negatively on your dealership. There may be a much better camper roadside assistance plan available that your company should be offering your customers instead of Good Sam Roadside Assistance.

I will be doing my research to find the best Roadside Assistance Plan that truly assists it's customers instead of just taking the money from them and letting them be stranded; like me. I am so very disappointed and furious how Good Sam Roadside Assistance absolutely ruined my vacation plans after driving thousands of miles to have fun this year when I didn't get to have any last year. Shame to Good Sam Roadside Assistance; you ruined my vacation plans and my health through your no care attitude during my travel and I really hope that your general managers revamp your company policies to take care of its customers instead of leave them stranded hundreds of miles from home while ill; like me!

If you want to stay in business you have to take care of ALL your customers...or other companies will do it for you and they will take your business and you will go bankrupt! You could help to make things right with this customer by reimbursing me the $200 cash I had to pay for camper repairs out of state that should have been done by Good Sam Roadside Assistance; especially after my travel plans were ruined by Good Sam Roadside Assistance and I am still ill today (August 6) from being stranded out of state in a city parking lot for days.

We had two flats in one day on our travel trailer. We changed the first with our spare tire. Then, traveling from Indiana to Ohio we had another one. We called Roadside Assistance. Dispatch was wonderful, and would even call just to let us know their status. Our issue is with Transit Pro and what they're allowed to charge. My end of the bill was...$406.48. When I called Good Sam to question the charges I was being passed off to Dispatch who passed me off to Transit Pro. When I question who I was talking to I did not get a straight answer at first. When I asked what Good Sam paid for if my bill was $400.00 I was told he didn't have that in front of him. But, was told an average service call was 500 to 600 dollars with a two hour minimum on what they pay out.

I was also told that all prices are based on and national average, so the tire I bought from them for $200.00 I could have walked in off the street and paid $100.00. Mounting at 128.00. Would have paid $30.00. It was an after hour call, but I thought the extra price would be on the service end of it. Transit Pro made out like a bandit with a big profit. I understand it was my responsibility to pay for the tire. Just feel taken advantage of me. It also only took about 15 mins from when the driver got there for us to be back on the road. If this practice is allowed from Good Sam we will be cancelling our agreement... Buyer Beware!

We have had Good Sam Roadside assistance because of our RV. Let me tell you, don't waste your time with them. They are so incompetent and it is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. The two times we needed them in the last 6 months they left us HIGH and DRY! Our motor home blew a hose and we limped to a truck stop. After calling and waiting 1.25 hrs they called back and said it was too late in the evening to get a tow truck or repair man out to us and "since we were safe" there was nothing they could do until the next day. We had to find our own guy (only 5 miles down the road and came to fix it). Then last night our truck died on the highway and we coasted down the off ramp. Called them, they said they would have someone out to get us (it was 6:00 PM) and we were in a town so not in the boondocks by any means. Waited 1.5 hours.

Finally called them back, they had the AUDACITY to tell us they could not find anyone so "they did not know what to tell us but we were on our own"!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! That is it! I am done and requested a FULL REFUND of our "so called" assistance membership. Our daughter has 3AAA so we called them, they had a tow truck to us IN 30 MINUTES!!!! 30 MINUTES!!! I'm telling save yourself the headache and frustration with Good Sam, they are BAD SAM to us!!

We received a year free with our RV purchase and purchased the extended coverage. We were told by the finance person at Camping World that it was the best roadside assistance money can buy and we trusted them. Big mistake. The first call we make, we are told that 1) we didn't meet the definition of "disabled" and 2) we aren't roadside so it isn't covered.

Really??? Our 5th wheel hitch failed and the camper fell on the truck and crushed the tailgate/box. The rep actually suggested we hitch back up and tow it ourselves. Uh. What? I called AAA and they didn't hesitate to send someone to help us, even though we didn't have the RV coverage he allowed us to purchase it so we could use it. Their tow driver determined the hitch actually did fail, it wasn't user error, and towed our camper to the dealership for repair. I will be asking for my money back for the extended coverage and will be a AAA member for life. Good Sam is useless.

Good Sam is terrible. We had a blow out on our fifth wheel camper, on busy I-95 in Maine. We contacted Good Sam and after 1.5 hours of waiting for someone to change our tire, in 98 degree temperatures, and texts stating no one was available, we took it upon ourselves to contact a tow company. Funny the tow company said they received no call from Good Sam and they are affiliated with Good Sam. This company was a half hour from where we were located.

The person on the phone at Good Sam couldn’t locate us after multiple attempts at trying to explain where we were. We told her any tow company from the area would know where we were if she just told them where on the highway we were. As it turns out Maine DOT offers a service helping vehicles broken down. They happened upon us and changed our tire free of charge. We are done with Good Sam. This is the second time and instance like this has occurred with them. We will be getting another roadside service.

So their rep, a Mr. Rudolph ** II totally lied to me to get me to buy their overpriced tire through Transit Pros. So not only does Good Sam NOT pay their claims, they force you to pay for overpriced items to get back on the road as well. They prey on RV owners and are NOT to be trusted.

Please listen to the reviews, I didn't! And oh my gosh! Don't do it! I got their best "Platinum Complete" because I am handicapped and can't do it myself. Hit road debris and my inside rear tire passenger side went flat. Call roadside assistance at 11:50 AM on Saturday, 3:30 PM no one had come," called back "oops sorry will get some out their in 1/2 hour" they said. Small tow truck showed up in 30 minutes, with only a 2 ton jack, could not lift my 30' C Class. Called back, 2 hours later they said "oops we had it setup for a medium weight vehicle." Really! They have all the information on my RV. They should know it weighs over 20 tons! They redid the order for a heavyweight tow truck, called back, "Sorry we cannot negotiate a price with any tow company, you will have to wait till Monday." Really!

Monday 11am tow truck arrived. Took the spare and replaced the flat tire, Tuesday I drove the RV to the Tire Factory and replaced both tires since the other tire had damage too but did not go flat. Wednesday call Good Sam to see if my tire was covered. They said yes and gave me a number to a totally different company "Soncio". Rep at Soncio said "said do you still have the bad tire?" I said, "NO. It's at the Tire Factory. Do you really expect me to keep and carry it around an old heavy dirty blown up tire?" He replied "sorry you need the bad tire in order for us to reimbursed you". I said, "Well no one told me that. No one at Good Sam roadside assistance gave me any instructions. Who goes to a tire shop and keeps the bad tires? Isn't the receipt good enough?" He said "Sorry. No bad tire I can't help you."

So before you sign up Good Sam will tell you that if you're not happy with the service you can cancel anytime and get reimburse at a prorated rate. LIES! I then called Good Sam and explain the terrible service and said I was not happy that I wanted to cancel it and get reimburse at the prorated rate. Good SAM said "NOPE, since you use the service we will deducted the service call plus prorate your two weeks with us...." Well I am disputing it with my credit card. But save the headache. It is a SCAM like all insurance programs. Go with AAA, much more reputable company. I'm out the $195 for the program, out the $175 for the tire, and I had to wait almost 2 days to get them to replace a tire. I am handicap so I could not replace the tire myself. Reason I got the program. DON'T DO IT!

Said they’d be fine, they died one mile later and Good Sam said they would tow them back to the SAME tech. You mean the one that took their $100 and did nothing? When she demanded to be towed to a reputable place, Good Sam refused and said “That’s all we’ll do, Ma’am”. Hundreds of dollars a year for 6 years and this is what we get? She’s still waiting for a tow for which we’ll pay over $700.

Updated on 07/04/2019: This is a follow up to a post I made on July 1, which detailed the failure of GOOD SAM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE to provide a jump start to my family and I, within three hours of calling them on a Saturday afternoon. I missed a call from their "investigator" Ella calling from ** yesterday after 4 PM EST. I made several return calls and was disconnected once, then another call I was told I could cancel my membership but there was no way I was getting a refund then hung up on. I then finally spoke to someone named "David" after being on hold for fifteen minutes, who assured me a partial refund of my membership dues would be refunded. This was after far too many phone calls and being put on hold for far to long. They did their best to try and make me feel like I was making this up.

I am not holding my breath on the partial refund of dues, as I have yet to see the credit. Bottom line, I will never use GOOD SAM, CAMPERS WORLD, OR ANY AFFILIATED BUSINESS again. More so, I will attempt to steer everyone I can from your poorly run business. It's one thing to fail in service, but your treatment after the fact is awful. What a shame Good Sam, what a shame!

Original Review: After numerous years with AAA, showing up when requested (even in rural areas), I have never waited over an hour. In an urban area, always close to 30 minutes... jump, lockout, or tow, whatever. Decided to go with Good Sam last year because of the reasonable cost to cover RV trailers, which ended up being a very bad decision.

My wife, two children, and I pulled over along a 4 lane highway less than 5 miles from the city limits of a north GA town with a population of nearly 30k. After shutting the car off, then trying to restart, realized the battery was too weak. I immediately called Good Sam and after a 10 minute conversation was told I would receive a "confirmation" text within a few minutes that my wrecker was responding. This was on a Saturday afternoon and soon realized after 15 minutes with no text, I needed to call them. That's when I learned the original operator made some mistake(s) and no wrecker was being ordered. After 32 more minutes on the phone with the second operator, I was told they could not find anyone and would call me back when they did. Yup, that's it, "we can't find anyone to respond." I actually paid money for this service. Keep in mind this is about 45 minutes after my first call.

Ten minutes later I was finally notified (just about 1 hour after original call) they finally found someone, coming from a smaller town nearly 2 hours away. Yes, looking at 3 hours for a jump start now. I made some calls myself and quickly found a wrecker who was available (2nd one I called), less than 5 miles away, but wanted $125. I called Good Sam back and received conflicting information about paying out of pocket and being reimbursed. I did end up taking care of getting a jump start on my own and were finally on our way after nearly 2.5 hours. At just about the 3 hour mark from my original call, I received a call from the Good Sam dispatched wrecker driver letting me know he was "almost there." He also informed me he was going to get his $125 from Good Sam either way... how ironic, the same price the local wrecker drivers charge. What a shame.

So now I asked for a refund of my annual dues and to cancel my membership. Since they failed and have never used them before. I was told it needed to be "investigated" by listening to all the calls made, because they "record" all calls. Amazing, it was insulting that there is a reference to me making this whole situation up to get a refund. Another shame. Their "investigation" would take "something" like a week. Another shame. Good Sam.

I contemplated about waiting to start posting reviews but it is a shame you claim you do not have enough information in front of you to give me a refund now. I called for a jump and you failed, failed miserably. Good Sam, the right thing would be to refund me immediately due to your failure. Based on my personal experience, I have no confidence in your organization and hopefully I can dissuade someone from risking their family's safety by choosing Good Sam for roadside assistance.

This is the second time we have used this "service". The first time my wife waited in 100 degree weather while they sent various tow trucks that could not tow a Subaru. In the episode yesterday with a Prius that quit on the Highway 99 they said to ask the gas station if I could leave the car there. The gas station said it would be towed away. Then they said they would tow to somewhere close. There is no service with this company. They are the worst. Expect to be on your own.

The car started after a while and I figured out that it would run a while and then quit. I managed to make it the 60 miles home after many episodes of stopping and starting on my own. I cancelled the Good Sam "help". Stay away from this company. They are no good and you will be on your own. The money you pay is for nothing.

Twice now over two years I have had tire issues with a small, one axle travel trailer. Could not be towed because the tire was blown out and they didn't have that size tires to replace. Once in Delaware and now in New York. Couldn't find tow truck or tires, told us to disconnect camper from tow vehicle. Leave on side of highway and go to Walmart. Really. I pay for this service. You should get a tire and bring it or not accept my membership fee when I told you what type of camper I had. All tow trucks for what we needed in NY were put off their network. I'm guessing their network is only 50 miles from their headquarters. Don't waste your time or money with them. They lead you on thinking they can help then hours later call and say that you have to search for a provider. Helpful when broken down on the side of the highway with 2 small kids. Never again. Canceling membership tomorrow.

Our (almost new) RV got hit by lightning damaging numerous sensors, computer modules, etc. Delicate, sophisticated electronic stuff. They would only cover a 20 mile tow to Premier Boat and RV, a boat dealer that peddles some used RVs. I had extremely qualified mobile techs decline the work because it needed a top level shop. Pathetic. The supervisor I elevated it to was argumentative and knew less about the subject than the kid who took the call initially. DON’T waste your money, absolutely worthless! We were towing our fifth wheel RV and had a spring hanger break on one of the axles. After 20 minutes of trying to educate the young woman on our issue, she still could not relay the information to the technical support person. She could not understand that a tow truck was not what I needed. After wasting 2 hours of our time, on a Saturday afternoon, she called a tow truck. I called the tow truck gentlemen and explained that I needed a mobile welder and he said he could not help me.

I again called Good Sam and got another agent who was more familiar with what we needed but after an hour she called back to offer a tow truck. I did the research myself and in about 20 minutes found 2 mobile service companies that provided roadside welding and were within 20 miles of my location on I-80, Grand Island, NE. The welder showed up in 30 min, got us fixed and back on the road. It is now Monday & I am still waiting for the Good Sam agent to call me back with a solution. Bottom line - my 6 hour roadside breakdown could have been 2 hours if I would not have wasted my time with Good Sam! Never making that mistake again!

Because my membership will soon relapse I called to renew. I was told it would take up to a month to send me a new card. I am leaving in three weeks. I was told a membership number could be given me, I could print a paper card and that it would be recognized by campgrounds, Camping World Stores and certain gas stations offering a discount. Having been told that two years ago, I knew from experience that the paper card and membership number would not be accepted at gas stations and most campgrounds. Pat, the Sam's Club representative I talked with, said that expedited card delivery could not be arranged.

My experience over three years suggests that Sam's Club's focus is on selling services for which they are often not able to provide - discounts, towing, free assistance in sales, etc. I believe Sam's Club exists more to make money for the owners than to help travelers. That they call themselves "good Samaritans" is an insult to those who truly are.

They commit to the first company that accept. Last night I spend 4 hours waiting. First company cancel after a three hour wait. Second company I cancel because I got tire of waiting. Good Sam says unlimited towing but is not unlimited. If you tow a car to a place and you need to tow it to another place you have to pay for the second towing.

Same type of customer experience I got with Camping World. Never got my item fixed because the Warranty company - Good Sam would not approve repairs. You pay for a warranty, they don’t deliver. The have catchy titles VIP service by like I said if is own by Marcus Lemonis. They don’t fixed or the customer experience is the worst. We negative stars for reviews. We should have a way to provide negative stars.

Secondly, after reading the reviews, it appears that GS Roadside Assistance has gone down the toilet, in terms of customer service. We've had Good Sam for 2 years, finally needed to use it yesterday for a blow out tire on our RV. All we needed was someone to come change it to our spare tire or replace the tire (we were flexible). We waited 5 hour in 100 degree heat (with 2 small children) to get the run around from everyone from Good Sam. It was Memorial Day, so I understand it being difficult to find a technician, but no one ever called us back, we had to continue calling for them to tell us various excuses for why no one was coming, or why no one called us back. Finally had to get a hotel room, but would have been nice to do that earlier in the day instead of waiting 6 hours. This morning we called Progressive and they got someone out in 20 minutes, and we're kicking ourselves in the butt for not calling them yesterday, and having paid for Good Sam for 2 years. Very displeased with their lack of organization and communication in a situation where it counts.

My elderly parents purchased the roadside assistance thinking the coverage would apply in any collision. There is a technicality stated in the fine print that you must be in a collision with another vehicle for assistance to apply... Single vehicle accidents are not covered. They hit a guard rail in bad weather and were stranded. Good Sam Customer Service was 0% help and rather rude. UGH. I am happy my parents were not injured but sad that they wasted their money on this insurance. Read the fine print before you purchase and understand exactly what you are getting... Most likely you won't want this product. I would never recommend it.

After an hour we called back and were told it would be another 2 hours. Finally 2 1/2 hours later he came. No problem. We knew we would pay labor and parts. There were no parts as all he did was disassemble the step. Again no problem. He was there about 1/2 hour. At some point he told us he has a minimum 2 hours labor charge of 100.00 per hour. We were stuck in this situation. So all in all for 1/2 hours work it cost us 207.26. 7.26 for using a credit card. Plus according to the invoice Good Sam's paid 150.00. So if you use this service be sure to get costs up front. We have used this service in the past with no problem but we will not be renewing after this.

I have had a Good Sam Platinum membership for five years and as I recall, I have used the roadside assistance program four times. Today I unexpectedly received a Notice of Cancellation. The notice is dated six days ago, and my membership is to be cancelled ten days from the date of the notice, which means four days from now. Good Sam is cancelling my Platinum membership because they say my membership costs have significantly exceeded their average.

My first call to Good Sam was during the first year of my membership, when I was on a cross country trip and needed help finding someone who could repair my faulty trailer hitch wiring, which was a matter of one phone call from me to Good Sam and one phone call that Good Sam promptly returned. No roadside assistance was requested or required.

The second was a year ago, when my alternator failed far from home and I needed a tow to a garage that was within five miles of the breakdown. The third was a simple tire change last summer. Most recently (two weeks ago) my trailer became hung up on a large rock at the fringe of a parking lot and a tow truck was called to lift the back of the trailer and winch out the rock.

I have no complaints about how Good Sam has answered or handled my emergency calls. In each instance, the person at Good Sam that I reached on the phone was knowledgeable and courteous and promptly dispatched excellent help when I needed it as well as kept me informed about the status of my requests. Whenever I call Good Sam to request help, I try to be very clear and detailed about the circumstance that prompts me to call. I assume (perhaps wrongly?) that the person I talk to is familiar with the coverage my membership includes and will only authorize and dispatch help that is covered by my membership.

But now I find that this is probably not the case and instead, if I am not covered by Good Sam for a particular emergency but still Good Sam dispatches help that solves my problem, Good Sam will, without offering me any chance to discuss the situation or any options or alternatives or ways to retain my membership, simply notify me that I am costing them too much money and cancel my membership. The letter I received today is signed by Robert **, Claims Department, Good Sam Roadside Assistance. Mr. ** did not include a phone number or even a physical address for himself or for anyone at Good Sam who might be available to help me resolve this very disappointing situation.

Updated on 04/28/2019: I wrote a review of Good Sam Club. I stated I signed up for three years of membership with Good Sam Club (not road service) at Gander Outdoors. They replied that they were sorry I had a bad experience with Good Sam Road Service (true) and Gander Outdoors (False). Gander Outdoors were the people who offered the Good Sam Club membership - They did n o t h i n g wrong - so for Good Sam to say I had a bad experience with them is total wrong.

Everyone should know it is only Good Sam I had problems with. They want me to do a private message with my address. They already know my address. I'm not replying via private message. I will say the last time I called, I finally got someone who knew what was going on and, hopefully, she is right about my $50 rebate coming any day now. I am writing another review for Gander Outdoors because they are tops in knowledge, helpfulness, etc. etc. etc.

Original Review: I used Good Sam for years and felt safe knowing they were there when I needed help. But in 2014, I needed a tow. They couldn’t “find help”. I called a company that towed me once before and found they didn’t deal with Good Sam, anymore, due to payment disputes. I wrote Good Sam, emailed them, called them - I never got an apology and worse, I begged for assurance this would never happen again. Nothing. No reply at all.

I severed ties and told them after that Horrible experience with them. It was like losing a family member I liked them so much. It used to be a good company - Not Anymore!! Now for the current problem. Now Camping World came close to me, calling themselves Gander Outdoors because they handle ALL outdoor needs, including Archery, guns and fishing needs. So I joined only the membership that gives me a 10% discount at Camping World. That was April 8.

I was supposed to get $50 refund in the form of a merchandise certificate as well as $25 for winning a bean toss. I received an offer for some type insurance from Good Sam very soon after joining. On April 26, 19 days after joining (email was required when signing up), the lady said my email address was not showing up. I had to give it to her again. She couldn’t tell me the membership card and my merchandise credit was on the way, but said they would send it right out and it would be 2-3 weeks. No expediting - but I did get a “sorry” from her. NOW I have to wait 2-3 weeks MORE before I get my merchandise credit and membership cars. Nothing has changed.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing today to complain of the poor service and rude service. On April 11th - we had a blowout on our camper - called for service, waited, waited, and waited - called them back still working on dispatching someone to assist us. Meanwhile after waiting a few hours, around 8:30 an TDOT assisted my husband on changing the tire. Then I called back and CANCELLED service for that evening.

The next morning, getting back on the road about 25 miles or so we had another blowout (which was caused from the previous blowout - we found out later, the rubber from previous blowout had wrapped around the axle etc and caused everything to get hot). I called for roadside assistance again - they started arguing with me about having service the night before which I kept trying to explain that the service call was cancelled!!! After being transferred several times and then hung up on - called back (by this time we have been sitting on the side of the road for couple of hours), a lady called back requesting size of tire - my husband kept trying to explain to her the size, ply etc. and she just kept getting rude with him. WELL after another couple of hours, not only no callback - still no service. Stating that I had service the night before - I CANCELLED that service call the night before - finally they sent someone out and put on a new tire, which we paid for $441.00...

I am so disappointed in this roadside service - I fully understand that there are others to be serviced but please stay in contact with the customer that is stranded on the side of an expressway AND not be so rude to customers that are already in a discomfort of the situation. I will be cancelling this service - and I will spread the word about this roadside assistance being horrible. By reading the previous reviews we are not the only ones disappointed in this service.

How ignorant does that sound and how would that be feasibly possible when we were stranded and didn't have any knowledge of anything in a city foreign to us.

I tried to tell the agent, I think her name was LaWanda or LaShanda (in dispatch), that she was not being compassionate at all considering. It's frustrating to break down and need roadside assistance to begin with and secondly for her to now accuse us of giving the tow driver the wrong address to take our RV. She remained condescending with her tone and she continued to talk over me. Instead of listening to her accusations and continued disrespect, I disconnected the phone call. This childish agent proceeds to call my number back, wait for me to answer, and then hang up on me.

Sounds pretty petty if you ask me and confirms a level of incompetence that you would so rudely treat your customers this way. I am very disappointed with the customer service I received during a time when everything was upside down. My time is valuable and I don't feel my concerns were met with the appropriate responses. Instead, I received unprofessionalism and was falsely accused of giving alternate directions to the tow driver... which doesn't make sense... because if the driver is directly dispatched from the company, wouldn't you think he would listen to the dispatcher (who is paying him for the job) and not the stranded client???? HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!!

I was getting ready to leave on our trip, everything loaded and the RV was running. I shut and locked the rv while getting ready to leave, went back to the rv and the lock would not open top nor bottom. My husband called for assistance at 7:00 pm on a Saturday, Sunday came around and still no callback. So I went out to see if it would unlock would not, so I kept working with the lock and finally got it open. I locked it back again still did not open, waited a while went back and I finally opened it back up. I decided I would leave for my trip and lock the deadbolt and bungee cord the door till we got to our destination in Georgia.

Called. Spoke with someone again, no help still, called back again and spoke with a lady and she told us to take it to a rv service place and was accused of hitting the door that it was my fault that I broke the lock, I did not appreciate it at all. I will never take out a roadside assistance again, and I will inform the camping world that I got the rv just how I was treated and what we were told.

She told me that she would text me with the provider and eta. After 1 1/2 hours had passed, she called me from this number (817-355-3405) and asked me what size tire. Never received a text from her. After another 2 1/2 hours had passed, I called the 800 number again and he placed the order again. It took four hours to get help. I am very agitated about this event. This coverage is fantastic!... if you don't need it! They are very good at charging your credit card, not so good at covering you! While on vacation, my credit card was charged for renewal, when I contacted them by phone to ask a question, I was informed that my coverage had been cancelled! It's a good thing I didn't need roadside assistance as they mail the notification (which I still have not received, today is April 2nd, 2019, they say they mailed it February, 2nd, 2019) instead of notifying by telephone or e-mail, so I never would have known had I not called for an unrelated query.

When I called their membership question number, I found that the person(s) answering these calls can't help in any way. I have been a member for several years and until this past year, I have rarely used this service (once in 5 years) for anything. This past year, my husband and I purchased a classic vehicle, had a number of problems while on vacation in Florida. This vehicle required 4 tow services in 18 months. So, to bring you up to speed, that's 5 tow services in 6.5 years, but, because there was an increase in usage in a relatively short period of time, cancellation was the route they chose to take.
    .

So, beware, if you need to use the service you pay for, they will cancel it WITHOUT any real notice. If you are on vacation, they will send it to your home address, fair enough, but, if you are like me, I have this coverage BECAUSE I am on the road. At the very least, they should e-mail you so that you are not stranded in the middle of nowhere. Deplorable service, I cannot wait to find a service that is reliable. I'm not sure if the company is aware that we now live in the age of social media, I will sure be sharing my experience!!

Every time I needed a tow, I had to wait more than two hours, even though there were many towing companies within 5 miles.

I called Good Sam and they told me my account had expired but if I paid the fee to renew it would renew automatically. I paid the fee and then called for assistance just to be rudely told that it takes 48 hours for the account to renew but I could pay $190.00 for them to come out and fix it, but that fee could go up depending on parts. We asked to talk to someone in extended warranty because we knew we had bought an extended warranty when purchasing the RV at Camping World. The guy told us that he was the only one working that day, which was a lie because earlier we had spoken to yet another rude customer service rep. He then transferred us to just get disconnected. We will be cancelling this horrible joke of a service.

I made a Good Sam Roadside Assistance purchase due to a popular camping store recommending them, however I have found that after just 1 try their service is well below par in contrast to AAA or insurance roadside assistance programs that I've used before. I called the 1-800 number provided by them to report my vehicle had broken down at a convenience store, and it took 3 tries just to get properly connected to them. After connection, I had to repeat everything I said 3-4 times. I requested the vehicle be towed to the company that did all my repairs which was 8.5 miles away, and the person said it would be a $30 service charge because there was another repair service just 1 mile away.

Since the vehicle was under warranty from the repair shop 8.5 miles away the closer one wasn't an option. I explained that, but the assistant said, "sorry, that's our policy". I gave them my credit card information and paid the $30. When the tow truck did finally arrive 1 hour after the incident, I found that it had not come from a 5 mile radius where 3-4 tow truck companies reside, but over 30 miles away from a neighboring town. The whole experience was far less than acceptable, and I will be calling my insurance carrier this a.m. to get proper roadside assistance when I need it. I will just chalk up the fee I paid Good Sam as a valuable lesson learned, and cut my losses early.

They called me and said they could not get approval to send another person. I informed the lady that no one came. No tow truck drove by and that this is all nuts. But she said Good Sam would not approve sending someone else. I would never recommend this company and I am going back to AAA.

We’ve had a Good Sam Roadside Membership for several years. I think we’ve used the roadside assistance two or three times...flat tire once or twice and another time for a tow...and each time we had a good experience. Surprisingly, we received a letter in the mail today saying it is costing Good Sam too much to provide roadside assistance to us and they are canceling our membership. The letter was dated for THE DAY AFTER we renewed our platinum membership. It says the expiration of our membership is ten days after the date of the letter, which is today.

So now we are without roadside assistance for our family, including our two daughters who are away at college. Interestingly, I just contacted Good Sam a few days ago to be sure they send us cards for our children. They didn’t mention a word about our membership being canceled. This is really disappointing. I completely trusted Good Sam to take care of my family. I have recommended them to many people. Now, I will be warning everyone about Good Sam instead.

My wife and I have been members with Good Sam Platinum Roadside Assistance for nearly eight years. Our current membership was due to expire in May 2019. Unfortunately for us, we had to use their service four times in the last one and a half years. This included flat tire change on our 5th wheel, motorcycle breakdown, fuel delivery and pick up truck towing. Currently spending a few months in Arizona we were informed by our son at home that our program had been canceled. After contact with agents we were informed that because we had used their service above the national average they were cancelling our plan as it was costing them money to keep us on board. I escalated my displeasure to a regional manager and was informed that it was their pleasure to serve us but it is their discretion to cancel our policy due to what they felt was overuse.

So as long as you pay your dues and ONLY use their service to their liking you will be fine. Otherwise you are cancelled. The worst part was that our membership was not due to expire for another year. They sent a letter but as stated we were away and would have had no knowledge of this had our son not opened the letter. So buyer beware.

We had to pay the $55.00 for the first tow because it was 2 miles past the 10 mile limit. I thought it was unlimited mileage but I guess not. And now we just received a cancellation letter because we used it too much. We are so sorry we had trouble with three different problems with our car. we had to wait a minimum of 3.5 hours for the truck to get to us, that is the longest I have ever had to wait for a car to be picked up. We will be receiving a pro-rated refund but that's not enough for me to continue any affiliation with this company. Please be aware they are not there to help. Only to collect your money. Good Luck.

I’ll first start by saying I have had Good Sam for a very long time. I was traveling from Michigan to Boca Raton Florida 10/2018. My rig is 51 feet longer, which includes a Ford E3 50 super duty and a 26 foot toy hauler/camper. I was in Southern Ohio and had the driver side inter-Dooley tire blowout. The service provider driver that came to help from roadside assistance did not put my rear tires back on tight enough. Coming down a mountain my tires came off of my vehicle on a 6% incline around the corner. Sheared off studs and lug nuts, only being held on by hub assembly. Had I not handled this properly and downshifted until I was able to get off the side of the shoulder-this would have been a catastrophic event making national news.

I submitted a claim to Good Sam which is handled by Allstate. After much back-and-forth, and the agent was willing to pay my claim of it repairing my axle and rims which had worn when he thought the repair was only $159. Sarcasm and lack of professionalisms were unbelievable. When he found out it was more than $1200, he denied the claim and said that he has no further anything to say to me. I have no choice but taking it a step further by contacting consumer affairs and the attorney general for the proper information because of the lack of cooperation of the register of agent to file small claims or other.

Extremely Dissatisfied, many written work orders and invoices, videos of the actual original mechanic saying I needed to do nothing further. I can go to California and back. Several work orders from different mechanics including second roadside and invoices stating that the tire was not put on tight enough directly causing this near fatal collision. This has cost me a tremendous amount and they are willing to do absolutely nothing about it. So it seems litigation is my only recourse. The 26’ trailer jackknifed, hitting guardrail, causing physical damage to occupants and body of vehicles as well bouncing around in the cab myself, a 72 year old passenger and my dog.

I informed them I was just interested in recouping physical costs of the axle that was damages at the time and would sign off of further litigation. This is the very worst I’ve ever been treated when it’s all in black and white with extensive dash cam, video and written reports from repairing auto shops. I have now driven 7,000 miles since this has happened with no further problems. A+ job to Rock Solid north of Chattanooga for the expertise and amazingly fixing what your other contracted roadside assistance failed to exercise caution and professionalism.

Let me start by saying that we have been Good Sam Members for over 22 years and barely use their service. Less than two weeks ago, we had a blow out in our motorhome on I5. We were on major highway intersections, Hwy 41 and I5 and were told (by customer service from Texas) that we were mistaken, we couldn't be there because there was no such intersection. Then when he finally figured out that we were correct in our directions, told us that it would be at least 2 hours or longer before they could get someone to call us back. We could see across the highway several gas stations and tire repair shops.

So, in order to safely get off the highway, we called the tire repair shop ourselves and within 25 minutes we were back on the road. I cannot tell you, unless you experience yourself, how scary it is to be stranded and without the assistance you pay for. But, it gets better. I have been following up with supervisors to no avail. I called today and was told that a message was left for us (which I have cell records indicating otherwise) and am waiting for someone to say something - own it Good Sam. Tired of paying for nothing.

To the best of my recollection, I called within the 5 allowed service calls for the service that I signed up and paid for. To make matter worse, the notice was date-stamped almost 20 days before it arrived in my mailbox, leaving me with less than 6 days to find new service. Problem came when I returned home and applied for my refund of expenses under the road hazard program. I found the response from some people rude, dismissive, and lied to. They kept ignoring my request to speak to a Manager and told me several times they weren’t there. I followed the instructions given at the time of the blowout and then told I did it wrong and since I did not save the tire for inspection the claim was denied. I did get $900 of the $1261 refunded but only after many phone calls and hours of being handed off and lied to. They have more than one program and with the names being close I was sold something that was close but not what I thought I bought. Result was $300 loss and way too much grief. 90% of the people I dealt with are not interested in customer service.

Motor home broke down at campground, called Good Sam, they sent out mechanic in about 2 hrs. He determined it was my fuel pump, called them back the next day and they sent out tow truck (who had to come from 2 1/2 hrs away and towed us to mechanic. They did an excellent job at getting us out of a big bind, they did all the footwork getting someone out in a timely manner. Thank you Good Sam.

Last night we experienced every RVer's worst nightmare. A front tire blowout in the dark, pouring down rain on a busy CA freeway. Our call to Good Sam can only be described as a total joke! We clearly needed a tow, but no. The only recourse they would offer was to transfer us to their tire department whose plan was to send out a service person with a tire (after they could track one down) and change it. We were incredulous. This was at 8:00 pm. Who knows how long it would have taken for them to locate the right tire, a service person and have them dispatched? Not to mention the fact that we had serious concerns about our rim since the tire had been shredded. The representative said the extent of damage would be assessed when service person arrived. And if there was damage to the rim, THEN a determination would be made. Pretty sure we would have been on the side of that freeway until the wee hours of the morning.

We asked repeatedly for a tow. We knew there was a reputable tire store within 5 miles of our location but they refused. Said this is their protocol. Guess what? We called AAA RV+, they sent tow truck no problem and dropped us at the tire store. No questions, no argument, just the kind of service you expect from a roadside assistance program, particularly when you are in a precarious situation. I will be canceling this membership and write reviews everywhere I can about this bogus "roadside assistance" service. We were shocked and amazed as we had always believed Good Sam's reputation for RVer's was one of the best. We will definitely be keeping our AAA RV+ and also look into FMCA.

Refund given back on a 3 year membership. Valid thru 8/16/2019. After several calls on requesting why we were canceled finally a customer service agent told me the truth. We made a call over the allotment and it was determine my account was not profitable. Shame on Good Sam Road Assistance on false advertisement. Telling customers there are no limit on the calls you can make for assistance. Well back to being a loyal member to AAA. Worthy of my business that I should have never left.

Although this company is known primarily for RV roadside service & we don't have an RV, we switched from AAA several years ago after reading online reviews and appreciating the fact that all my household members, such as adult children, while still living at home/under 25 years of age, could be members. This is perfect for a family with multiple college students. From the first phone call to any renewal calls or questions, I had never spoken to a single customer service rep that I could say was friendly. Still though, the perks of having my entire family safeguarded kept me with them. We also have always toyed with getting an RV, so it made sense.

Personally, I have only used their service once in the several years we had them when we had a dead battery while on vacation. They did take double the time estimated to reach us, (2 hours instead of 1), but we were so thankful for the help we didn't dwell on that. That was about 2 years ago. My daughter used their service herself once after a bad car accident about 6 months ago. Other than that, one of my sons used them for key lockout a couple times and that's what I know.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I get a check in the mail from them with only a note of "Cancelled" on the check stub. Odd since we were still about a month away from our renewal, so I logged into my account online and saw my membership was inactive and canceled. I immediately called in to see what was going on. The rude customer service rep, rather than being helpful or understanding, told me we were canceled for "excessive use" and he did not have access to explain more specifics. True story. If he didn't have access to the records explaining how we were excessive, who would? I tried asking, but he was too busy interrupting me. I asked why, instead of finding out from a $23 check stub, someone didn't call to alert me? We had no idea, therefore had obviously not retained another roadside assistance provider.

What if we'd have had an accident and found out that way? That would have been quite a kick while we were down. They were never friendly then that treatment was even worse once they spoke to us when we were canceled. To say it's unprofessional not to notify someone by mail, phone, or email is an understatement. Frankly, I believe it was cruel, unusual, and amoral. I don't know what their definition for excessive use is since even their own customer service reps couldn't tell me, but it would appear minimal use with no warning of revoking their service. I was shell-shocked and keep asking myself if we should have seen something like this coming since everyone we spoke with at this company seemed miserable.

I was in my second year of the roadside assistance plan which advertises that it covers all family vehicles. My wife and daughter had a string of bad luck and we had four service calls in a couple months - 1 accident towing, two stuck in the mud pullouts and one flat tire. We asked the associate if there was a limit to the number of calls we can make. She said no it was unlimited but shortly after the last call I received a cancellation letter on my policy saying I had made too many calls. I understand that companies have to make a profit but they should either State the maximum number of calls you could make or not cancel your policy for making too many calls. This is just a bad business. I would not recommend this roadside assistance plan to anyone and I am also canceling my Good Sam's membership and not doing business with any Good Sam associated companies.

We live in Texas. Traveled to Tennessee for vacation on Thanksgiving. Came out of the Christmas Store in Piegon Forge and had a flat tire. Called Good Sam Roadside Assistance. Was on hold before could talk to agent. Once I talked to agent was told help was on its way. Help never showed, as promised. Called back and was told help would call me to make arrangements for towing to closest service station but tire could not be fixed until next morning. WHAT??? Miles away from home, cabin 2 hours away, pets at cabin and no vehicle??? AGAIN, WHAT??? Sleep in the car overnight with 6 month old baby, daughter and both of us???

I used cell phone and found a local company that responded within 30 minutes, fixed tire and had us on our way. Help finally called us after we had company I called on their way. Cancelled the roadside assistance service call. And, when I turned in my claim for a refund of my $85, I had to argue with Good Sam to get my reimbursement. Reimbursement was finally approved.

Today, 01/02/2019, called to see why I still haven’t received my refund and I was again put on hold for long period of time. Finally, someone answered and told me check was in the mail. LOL. As I was trying to get info, I was connected to an agent that ask me a bunch of questions only to find out that they didn’t even have my correct info on file. They said that was my fault that I should have called and gave them my new info!!! WHAT???

Again, when I bought membership, over the phone, within the year, I had given them all my info. I hadn’t owned a motorhome in over 5 years. But, that is what they had listed; but, I had just applied and bought membership several months ago. Needless to say, I’ve cancelled my service. Also, I get so much junk mail from them stating what a top rate company they are. REALLY??? And, please don’t bother with the standard reply that you would like my info and that you will look into it because you pride yourself in quality service. Don’t waste everyone’s time!!!

My car experienced mechanical failure and we called to have a tow after it would not start at a gas station. We were informed that it would take 2 hours before a tow truck could come to our location. After waiting two hours and the tow truck not arriving, I called Good Sam to inquire as to the whereabouts of the tow truck and was greeted by the rudest customer service agent one could ever ask for during a car crisis. After asking to speak with a supervisor, I was told that none was available and that they could request a new tow service; however, not guarantee the time being less than the original two hours that has already expired.

The towing service stated that a truck was on the way after waiting for 4 hours only to have that tow truck be diverted by an accident and being requested by a state highway patrol. After 5 hours I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and call for and pay for a towing service on my own as my 5 year old son and wife were cold, hungry and tired of this experience. I am looking for a different roadside assistance for my family because if this is what we are to expect from Good Sam... I would not trust it for my wife and son should they ever require to have need for this service.

He removed the wire, and ordered new parts for the next day. However, after he installed the new parts issue was not resolved. He continued to troubleshoot with no resolution. Eventually, my husband had him stop due to the hourly charge. Good Sam you are sending out incompetent servicemen costing consumers additional money. Our total bill totaled $895 and our issue is still an issue. Also, we had a flat tire in September, customer service gave my husband a piss poor excuse on limited services and he ended up changing the tire solo. Thank goodness for options.

Update on 12/15/2018: I appreciate Ella from Good Sam wanting me to contact her. I have responded as she requested. It remains to be seen if she is genuinely engaging to help, or doing a PR response. I'm hopeful that she will give meaningful assistance!!

Original: Up to today, would have given Good Sam 4 stars. But received a letter today from Robert **, Claims Department, Good Sam Roadside Assistance, CANCELLING YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN 10 DAYS. I'm a Good Sam Lifetime member. I've been a paid member of GS Roadside Assistance for 7 years. In Nov. 2018 we had an engine breakdown on my 31' Class A in WV and needed a 24 mile tow to closest international dealer. Estimate to fix is $13,000 CND. It appears that Good Sam will promise to be of assistance until you need the assistance. WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU, THE PROMISE IS FOR MINOR ASSISTANCE. Appreciate the tow, which GS was most reluctant to provide at the time. They had trouble getting a tow company, because of GS's reputation in the industry. I eventually had to negotiate it. I've been dumped and that's good for only ONE STAR!!

I finally was able to find help myself. I subsequently cancelled my plan. Well after two years I decided to try them again. I have tire minders on my motorhome which as I arrived at my RV park, Thousand Trails in Palm Desert, CA my tire minder said I had a flat, it wasn't all the way flat but like 1/2 down.

I called Good Sam to help me out only to find out that unless you have an inflated spare, which how many 40 foot motorhomes carry a spare, that it would cost me a minimum of $80 service fee for labor, they never told me that the road service was only covered if I had an inflated spare. Anyway, I just cancelled again and will never have anything to do with Good Sam again and suggest that you don't either, they are a rip off.

On Oct 2, 2018 I had a tire to blow on I-75 in North Georgia. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance. I paid them $390.00 which included the technician service call, new tire, new valve stem, and old tire disposal fee.

The next day Oct 3, 2018 I made my first call trying to be reimbursed. They told me they needed the DOT # on the old tire! I called the Good Year in Georgia and got it and for a month I spoke to "7" of the company's representatives and finally on Nov 8, 2018 was told that I didn't have a claim because I was to keep the blown tire as evidence. I explained, "You charged me and I paid for the tire to be disposed and besides that I'm in Florida and you're in Colorado, how am I supposed to get it there?" And I didn't have it. They charged me $12.00 disposal fee so why would I keep the tire. They said they had to verify what the tire looked like, I explained, "I'm in Florida. You're in Colorado. How are you going to look at the tire." I have spoken to "7" Good Sam representatives to be told I had no claim for $179.00 reimbursement.

I bought a new RV Road Warrior 420 by Heartland in 2016. My wife and I thought it would be a good idea to carry the extra coverage after our warranty ran out. We took it to Camping World to have repairs done. The automatic leveling system wasn’t working correctly. It would go into to error code and would not level up the RV. We had a condensation drip in the back a/c unit. The converter stopped working, and there was a plumbing leak in the storage area, there was a short in the 220 volt plug on the side of the RV for the power cord. Total repair cost was $750.

Good Sam would not pay anything on the repairs. Camping World said they have a way to get out of the repairs. I think they are together on this. They told me at first there would not be a problem with Good Sam and they would submit the claim but when I went to get my RV they said Good Sam had a clause in their coverage that didn’t cover those type of repairs. Don’t waste your money on Good Sam's coverage.

Updated on 12/27/2018: It's December 26, 2018. After several months and pleasant phone calls and written apologies I received a check for what I paid for the people I got to help with my battery. If I'd been waiting alongside the road, for them it would have most unpleasant. They repeatedly told me (without saying that they were doing anything about it) that their service is better in some areas than in others! Wow! Just what I need, a roadmap that tells me where I can have a breakdown and where I can't. At any rate, it's all settled now. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.

Updated on 11/14/2018 : In a matter of hours Good Sam sent a sorrowful message about how contrite they were and that they'd work w/ me if only I'd send my membership and phone numbers. I responded quickly w/ that info. It has been days with no further response from them. Reminds me of sitting in my car in the cold and rain waiting for them to tell us they weren't going to try to help us. They NEVER called. We had to call them! It is clear that they feel that all they have to do is to seem to be helpful. "Send your money and, when you need help, we'll SEEM to be helpful." Thanks a lot.

Original Review: Our car battery went dead in a parking lot in the middle of a good sized city. Assistance was within walking distance. However, it was cold and raining hard so we opted to make use of our Good Sam Roadside Assistance membership. After a phone call we were assured that a “rescuer” was on the way and would arrive within the hour. To cut a long story short, we waited over two hours and no one showed. When we called back, Good Sam told us they were unable to provide a “rescuer” because their single source vendor was “busy! They didn't know when or if he could jump our battery.” We handled the situation on our own from that point and within twenty minutes we're back on the road. A complaint to Good Sam was met by complete disinterest. Yes, they would pay the $45 we spent, but were unwilling to make good on their broken promises. I’ll think twice before renewing my membership.

He called GS for assistance and they said they would dispatch someone right away. He was in Ventura at school in a densely populated area so you figure help us close by. Two hours later, his phone is dying because his charger is locked in the car too, and nobody has shown up to help. I started calling GS to get a status and was disconnected 2 times. The third time I was on hold for 25 minutes before hanging up because nobody answered. He was just about to call AAA using a friend’s card when help rolled up. No apology, nothing. They open the car and drive away. I called the next day and canceled. Never going back. Never recommending. A one-star review does not do them justice.

I read all of these reports and see the “I’m Sorry” replies which are basically meaningless because nothing changes. I won’t elaborate on our issue because they want us to sign a confidentiality agreement that states that we can’t talk about it nor disclose the amount of money we were reimbursed. Haven’t signed it yet. Is anyone on here a lawyer and knows if we have any legal rights? Would love to see a class action lawsuit for fraud or something? Consumers are traveling down the road thinking that they have great coverage until they need it and then find out they are stranded.

    Updated review: Oct. 31, 2018

Yesterday, a representative from the Good Sam roadside Assistance contacted me from the state of Colorado. He wanted to see what he could do in response to my review based on my experience last week with what I considered a "terrible" experience with getting my disabled vehicle towed not only in a timely manner, but at all!

We had a pleasant conversation and he said the calls were recorded and that it was a teachable moment and they were going to follow up on the tow operator who hung up on me twice, but as well, the time and effort it took to understand the problems that I experienced. I get it and am appreciative of the follow up phone call. In addition he offered to refund my platinum service and offered to give my family a free GSRA year subscription. I accepted. Not because they rewarded my terrible experience, but because the associate was kind and responsive to my experience was the deciding factor. I consider this matter "resolved" and hope that the future will be brighter for anyone else who happens to use GSRA and I will be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and contact them if and when necessary. THANK YOU! consumer Affairs for making my voice heard and helping with this entire experience. It it with great gratitude, that you are here and available to help people in their daily lives.

Today is October 25, 2018. At Approximately 12:20 PM this afternoon I requested roadside assistance for my Toyota Sequoia which needed a tow to a service station 10 minutes away. After 3 HOURS I called another service and got my car towed in less than 20 minutes. During my three hour wait, I contacted SRA and they kept telling me that he would be there in 45 minutes. 45-50 MINUTES AGAIN AFTER THREE HOURS they tell me! They finally called me at 4:29 pm and said a tow driver was waiting. LOL! Not only was my car in the shop already, I was already home and calling AAA for membership. I left AAA after 27 years for that crap! Never waited more than 30 minutes with AAA. First thing I did was renew with AAA when I got home! DO NOT USE GOOD SAM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Due to poor night vision my wife needed assistance inflating a tire with low pressure. I contacted Good Sam and after an arduous process of requesting dispatch (The dispatcher asked if HHR was an acronym and asked me to wait while he over-road the computer because it did not recognize Chevy). Good Sam contacted my wife and told her that they would only tow the car to the location of their choice. When I called the customer service department to explain that my wife only need assistance inflating a tire I was told that Good Sam did not provide this service.

They would either tow the car or replace the tire. I responded by saying that when I had AAA they provided such service only to be told that Good Sam Roadside Assistance was #1 and AAA was #5 and that it was my fault for not understanding the service which I had purchased. The customer service representative then started making wisecracks about how it was not "his" company that was providing the poor service. In the end my wife was able to get her tire inflated via the help of a kind stranger, and when I called to cancel it took less time for the company cancel the service with no apologies and a pro-rated refund than it did for them to dispatch assistance.

Our Heartland RV frame started falling apart going down a state highway in Maine. We pulled into a rest area and realized this unit is no longer safe to tow. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance to have someone come and tow this safely to a repair center. The lady on the phone said, "if you can't tow it, neither can we." Really? Then what good is roadside assistance and why are we paying for it? She said she would get in touch with an RV mechanic that would contact me for pictures to see if he could help.

She put me on hold, then came back with the phone number of a mechanic and told me to text him some photos and he will see if he can help us. I texted him the photos, waited about 30 minutes then called him but he didn't answer. I left a message and he never called back. After a couple of hours waiting, we finally searched for the nearest campground and took our chances on getting there safely, which thankfully we did, no thanks to Good Sam. We never heard from them again until I let our membership expire. Now they are anxious to talk to me to find out why I didn't renew it. Unbelievable!

I signed up and they charged my card and said I would get a temp GS card in my email, when I did not get it I called and the lady I talked to about it was very curt with me and then asked what exactly do I want, I said the temp card, she asked my email then just said nothing more and hung up on me.

I did not like that kind of service so I called back to cancel, I had to talk to 4 people to do that, finally they said that my $ 189.35 would be returned, I asked for a confirmation # and got one, after looking at my bank online I saw another $10.00 charge so I called again and they said, "OK that will be refunded too in 5 to 7 days." I just won't do business with a company that is curt with customers. I understand some people have bad days, but leave it at home, I was afraid that if I did have a problem on the road trip they would be hard to deal with, that is why I cancelled.

After we waited, we got a call saying they couldn’t find anyone to tow our 5th wheel so we’d have to be responsible for the $125/hr mechanic roadside service call and it would be another 90 minute wait. Very disappointing. This is the first time we ever made a call and this is what a platinum membership is all about?

Updated on 05/16/2019: Called Roadside Assistance for engine battery jump start or battery replacement for my motor home. They sent a guy from a company called Jump Start in Tampa. I was in Bradenton, FL, about 45 miles away. They couldn’t get some one closer? The guy determined that the battery was dead. He replaced it with a battery that had no labels on it. That was a little suspicious. I later found out that he damaged one of the terminals. Here is a breakdown of what this guy charged me: Service Call- $172 Mileage- $112 Battery - $219. Subtotal - $503 Total with tax - $548.60 Unbelievable! I was speechless! And the guy was so nonchalant about it!

I wrote a review online on one of the consumer agency websites after which I was contacted by Good Sam. They did essentially nothing. I was cheated and scammed by an unscrupulous outfit. Subsequently, I replaced that battery in Maine. They fixed the broken terminal and put in a new battery for a total cost of $140. Good Sam needs to screen its service providers more carefully. I am seriously thinking about dropping Good Sam and going with AAA. The one good thing about Good Sam are the discounts you get on gas and at Camping World. But those discounts do not make up for the atrocious costs of the service calls.

Original review: After storing my motorhome in Bradenton Florida for six months in 2018 I found that my battery was dead. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and they sent a guy from Tampa to check the battery. The battery was indeed dead and he replaced it with another one that had no label and did not appear to be new. But I didn't say anything. When he handed me the bill I nearly fell backwards. It was over $500. He charged me around $259 for the battery, another $100 or so for the service and then another $100 for mileage between Tampa and Bradenton, despite the fact that he had several other service calls in Bradenton that day. He probably charged each customer for the mileage.

I felt robbed and cheated. I have been in Maine since June 2018 and I have had to replace that battery because it died. I had it replaced and the mechanics found that the guy in Florida had broken one of the terminals. The mechanics in Maine repaired everything, including putting in a new battery, for a total charge of $145. Good Sam Roadside Assistance needs to screen its service providers more carefully because the guy in Florida was a dishonest scam artist who needs to be kicked off of Good Sam's service providers list. Because of this incident, I am now reluctant to call Good Sam and will most likely not renew my membership.

When asking about the cost of mechanics and who pays for what, their CS person suggested I talk to membership since I am an ELITE member and sometimes they can change things (her suggestion not mine). In all I was transferred to 6 different people and most seemed confused until I talked to a manager. He said -- "Look I will give you an ultimatum" (his word not mine). It was no different than what I had been told earlier -- they wasted my time and money. As soon as my service ends at the end of the year I will NOT be renewing -- that's my ULTIMATUM! There are more customer oriented services out there -- this happened to be free with my purchase -- but it did end up costing me!

Much like other reviews we were told multiple times that someone was on the way, then to be told they canceled. After calling around on our own for someone to tow our 42’ diesel pusher after an accident we were told that Good Sam had contacted them, but refused to pay the towing company’s rates. No one had ever been “on the way”. After 8 hours of being lied to, we started trying to contract someone on our own. We finally found someone and called Good Sam to let them know that we found someone. However, they didn’t realize it was a 42 footer and couldn’t do it, so we called Good Sam and let them know we would still need help. They called back and said they had found someone.

Then a supervisor called and said that since we said they didn’t need to come out several hours before, they were going to cancel the service and leave us stranded. They claimed they paid for service already and wouldn’t pay again. We called the people they supposedly paid and they said it never happened, that they called them 20 times trying to get them to reduce their rate to the point where the towing company hung up on Good Sam. They paid for Platinum service, we got zero service, just 11 1/2 hours of lies. They say they have recordings of all the conversations and they would review the tapes, that was 4 hours ago. We are still stranded, they have zero interest in helping us due to the cost. I feel like this is a huge scam that will need a lawyer to resolve. Based on the other reviews, it might be a class action.

After camping for a week we were packed and ready to go. At 9 am my camper would crank but the engine would not start, after checking the emergency fuel cutoff to ensure it was not activated I tried once again to start the camper. It was at this point the first call was made to Good Sam, I was given instructions to try to start which of course did not work, then I was instructed to try to start from auxiliary battery which did not work either but the person on the phone would not accept my word that the batteries were fine, instead she said they would send out someone to give USA double battery jump. An hour later a guy showed up, examined the vehicle, tried a few tricks and determined the fuel pump was probably bad.

Another call back to Good Sam and a good 10 to 15-minute hold which became the standard before we could speak to our service person. She asked for more information regarding our RV which we gave as a 34 ft class C Four Winds Chateau, at that point she said she would have to send out a wrecker as there we no local mechanics who would do an on-site repair. We were told a wrecker would be to us within an hour and a half to 2 hours, after 2 1/2 hours we called again and were told the wrecker had canceled and another was on its way. No reason given for the cancellation. Again we wait and no wrecker, yet another phone call and we’re told this wrecker canceled also and another was coming but would not be there for 2 more hours.

By this time we had waited five hours for a wrecker, finally the wrecker arrived but his hydraulic pump engine would not start, he messed around for 30-45 minutes until he finally was able to start the motor. We had contacted a shop in town to repair our vehicle that morning and they were expecting us, we gave the wrecker driver the name and we proceeded to the shop, we pulled in there at 5:15 pm 8 hours after our first call. Fortunately one mechanic was just getting ready to leave and was able to take care of the RV. The mechanic shook his head as our vehicle was being backed in and he said ”We were told this was a class A home, had they told me correctly we could have towed it this morning and probably have it fixed by now."

Of course this put us in the position of having to get a room for the night and wait until morning before the RV could be looked at, by 10:00 am we were informed the fuel pump had indeed failed and they were searching for one, if they found one it would be the middle of the afternoon and the vehicle would be ready to go. Without anywhere we could go as we had our dog with us we were forced to take the motel room for another night even though we would be headed home. We ended up paying for 2-night motel fees, lost a day and all because the service person did not listen to the information given her. Thankfully we researched the mechanic and decided on him not the one Good Sam was recommending, we might still be stranded.

Not impressed at all with our first experience. Waited 3 1/2 hours without shade in 97 degrees on the interstate. The person on the phone was not helpful at all and they did not return calls like they said they would. The fuel injection pump went out on our tow rig (F650 flat bed that had a Polaris Ranger and a Ford Ranger on it pulling a 27 1/2 ft travel trailer). We called immediately and told them we were on the busy interstate with no shade and it was very hot out. I was made to take pictures of both sides of our vehicle (which meant standing out on the interstate to get the one) and the license plate. Mind you, we tried to explain that we could see the next exit and you COULD NOT miss our rig. Well, no callback as promised.

Finally, we got a call from the tow company. Yay! They said they were on a call and would be there in about 1/2 hour. After that call, Good Sam called to tell us they found someone and told us where we were getting towed to. Even after sending the pictures to them to show how big our rig was they never told the tow company so they showed up with a flatbed. The guy was shaking his head and apologized and said he would be back with a semi wrecker and another tow truck to pull the camper. You would have at least thought Good Sam would have told them what we had or sent the pictures so the tow company could have the right information. Anyway, the tow company was great and the place we were towed to went above and beyond to get us on the road again. I honestly thought we would be cooked on the side of the road before someone would get to us through with no contact from Good Sam.

I have tire coverage and roadside assistance insurance through Good Sam. I ended up changing tire myself on the side of the interstate. Went to get tire replaced with insurance and could not find anyone to take it. I had to buy tires out of pocket, now that we are home tried to get reimbursed. They said since I did not get prior approval no refund.

They said tire company had to call them first, I told them they all refused to call, I told them I cannot force someone to call and we were in need of tires. They said my problem. Good Sam is a total waste of money, go with AAA and you will be better off. I will never deal with them again and I am cancelling all policies with them and requesting refunds. I am also going to file in small claims court that they make it impossible to get your refund on tire you have to buy and do not honor their roadside assistance program by wanting money upfront to respond.

We will never recommend Good Sam Roadside to anyone ever again! In fact we will go out of our way to encourage anyone we talk to that they should look elsewhere for roadside assistance! We will tell them that Good Sam is more than happy to take your money, but when it comes to living up to the terms of the agreement and taking care of you in your time of need, they are a complete and utter failure. Here’s why we feel this way:

On a RAINY April 22, 2018 day our truck and fifth wheel (rig) became stuck in a jackknifed position in the mud at Seven Points Campground (Army Corps of Engineer Park) in Tennessee while trying to back into our assigned campsite. We contacted Good Sam Roadside (GSR) for assistance with getting pulled out (known as recovery services). We were asked several questions pertaining to the size and weight of our truck and fifth wheel so the correct equipment could be sent to perform the job.

GSR was told that our truck and tri-axle rig weigh a combined 33,000lbs and are in excess of 60’ long. An Army Corps employee who was working at the campground also spoke with GSR and emphasized that it was going to take a heavy duty truck that was capable of pulling us out as well as having the capability of lifting the rig off the ground to line it up with pavement so we could drive out safely without the possibility of getting stuck again. (This employee used to drive a wrecker and has seen many trucks and rigs in messy situations so he is very experienced as to what was going to be required.)

The tow truck company that GSR contacted called to let us know he was getting ready to head our way. During this phone call, the same Corps employee spoke directly to the tow truck operator and made sure he was aware of the size and length of our truck and rig and that he was going to have to be able to pull and lift us. In spite of all the warnings about the size and weight of our truck and rig, GSR sent a light duty tow truck that wasn’t equipped with a boom for the purpose of lifting.

This tow truck wasn’t any bigger than our own F350 Dually truck. When the Corps employee met the tow truck at the entrance gate he told the tow truck operator his “little” truck was not going to be able complete the task at hand. He was guided by the Corps employee to where we were and upon arriving at the site, the tow truck operator admitted to the Corps employee that he wasn’t equipped to successfully get us out but he was going to try anyway. All he wanted was to get paid for coming out!

The tow truck hooked on with his winch and was able to pull us backward so that the rigs tires were on the pavement however, we were still in a jackknifed position and the truck was still in the mud and unable to get traction to proceed safely. Because of trees, other rigs and site marker posts, if we tried to move forward we’d end up in the same position we were in. If we tried to move backward we would end up in a ditch on the other side of the road. We were now fully blocking the road and with the campground having only one way in and out, we could not remain in this position. At this point, the tow truck operator attempted to drag (not lift) our 23,000lb rig sideways across the asphalt. This attempt obviously failed as he was woefully underequipped for the task. The operator then told me to pull our truck forward in an effort to straighten the trucks alignment with the rig.

The operator then attempted to pull the truck and rig back while I tried to steer into a position to drive out. This back and forth action was done several times but the situation was getting worse and eventually the rig's nose got smashed down on to the bed rail of the truck and both sustained damage. At this point we were completely stuck… The operator could not pull us back at all and we were in a worse position than we were in originally. Let me repeat… The operator was an active participant in this final effort. The operator stated that we were going to need a heavy hauler to get us out… A much larger truck with boom lift capabilities. We did not sign, nor asked to sign, nor did we receive any paperwork whatsoever that acknowledged anything that had transpired. The tow truck operator then left.

We then called GSR and told them that the truck they sent was not the right kind of wrecker to have been sent and requested they send a heavy hauler. GSR said they needed to check with the tow truck to get his statement. GSR called us back and declined to send a heavy hauler stating that the tow truck driver told GSR that he had gotten us up on the road and we got ourselves stuck again. GSR stated they had fulfilled their obligation, and we were now on our own.

We then contacted a heavy hauler on our own and the next morning (after we spent the night in our truck) they were able to get us out in less than 2 hours. The heavy hauler operator pulled us back onto pavement. He then lifted the rear end of the rig with his boom so all 6 of the rig's tires were off the ground while simultaneously pulling the rig sideways so the rig and truck were more in alignment as well as being lined up with more pavement. Then the tow truck operator relocated his truck and pulled the rig and truck back even further so the truck and rig were straight and on pavement so we were then able to drive out of the campground. The heavy hauler operator was able to get us out of a worse situation and at the same time not cause any more damage to our truck and rig. This is what should have been done in the first place!

On May 4th we submitted a claim to GSR for the cost of the heavy hauler for $850.00. In addition we submitted repair estimates for our truck ($1500.00) and rig ($4050.00). The damage we incurred was directly related to GSR sending out the undersized equipment. Had the proper equipment been sent in the first place, there would not have been any damage whatsoever. To back up our claim we furnished pictures of the situation before and after the first tow truck, the damage to the truck and rig, receipt from the heavy hauler, a marked map showing the position of the truck and rig, pictures of the original tow truck as well as the heavy hauler. We also offered the names and telephone numbers of the Army Corp employee, the heavy hauler operator as well as another Army Corp employee (who was redirecting traffic while all this was going on) all of whom were witnesses what had happened.

One week later (May 11th), we were contacted by the GSR damage team contact (otherwise known as the ‘claim denial team’) with the result of the claim. He informed us the claim was being denied, yet he did not offer any explanation (reasonable or otherwise) as to why or how this decision was reached. We asked if he had spoken to any of the witnesses whose names and numbers we had furnished and he replied that he had not. He even made the statement that “it was our fault for getting stuck in the mud in the first place”. He was very rude and belligerent.

Needless to say, we were very upset with the finding on the claim, but also with the rude and belligerent behavior of the damage team contact. We spent the next several weeks trying to contact someone “up the food chain” to whom we could plead our case to. This ended up being a total waste of time. We were promised that the matter would be looked into further and calls would be returned. Nothing of the sort happened. We were just being told anything to get us off the phone.

The wording in the Good Sam Roadside Assistance Member Benefit Brochure regarding towing is as follows: “For each disablement event under this agreement, member is entitled two hours of either Towing Preparation Services or Recovery Services. Recovery Services include winch-out or extrication services to allow the vehicle to proceed safely under its own power”. Good Sam Roadside also claims (in their brochure) that their “representatives are specifically trained to answer questions about RV complexities and how to handle vehicle disablement situations. Explain the vehicle’s problem so we can send the proper equipment to assist you.”

Good Sam Roadside didn’t even come close to upholding their end of the agreement for us. They sent out an underequipped little tow truck when the situation called for a much larger truck equipped with not only a winch, but a boom for lifting based on the information they were given in the original call. If they had, we wouldn’t have over $5500 in property damage and an $850 out of pocket tow truck charge. We were at the mercy of Good Sam Roadside Assistance that they would send out the right equipment.

Updated on 12/03/2018: I have been attempting to settle this matter with Good Sam Roadside Assistance for 5 months. Good Sam contacted a company by the name of Certified Towing in Live Oak Fl. to tow the motorhome to the repair shop. My motorhome was damaged when they got the wrecker boom stuck under the motorhome and used the leveling jacks to try to get the boom out from under the motorhome. Good Sam turned the complaint over Allstate roadside assistance. Peter ** of Allstate called me a number of times and decided that the damage was not caused by the tow company, without even having coming out to look at the damage. Also a very rude person and hung up on me twice when I disagreed with him.

I called Safeco, my insurance co. They sent a person out immediately. He crawled under the motorhome and immediately spotted the damage. Safeco sent me check for the damage, minus the $500 deductible in a week. Read my previous review of Good Sam and you will see the nightmare from the beginning. Good Sam doesn't stand behind their contract if the company they choose (not your choice) damages your vehicle. I am totally dissatisfied with Good Sam and will no longer use their towing insurance. I have also canceled My Allstate car insurance And will no longer make purchases from Camping World.

Original Review: My 40 ft. motorhome broke a steering box in Live Oak Fl. I called dispatch on Friday June 22 2018 and asked them to tow my motorhome on Monday June 25 2018, so we could spend the weekend, since we were 250 miles from home. I was told if I wanted the RV towed Monday, I would have to call back on Monday. After calling back on Monday, about 3 hrs later Certified Towing showed. The driver said, he was told by Good Sam's the motorhome was a C not A 40 ft. class A. I have had Good Sam's towing for 10 years and they don't know it is a 32,000 pound class A diesel pusher. The motorhome didn't get towed until Tuesday June 26, because the owner of Certified Towing was at a baseball game and couldn't come until the next day.

After 4 hours, a $1147.00 leveling jack, bent entrance steps and a damaged chrome exhaust. My motorhome did get towed the next day. With all this Good Sam's is not taking responsibility. Also getting someone in their damage claims dept. to call back is almost impossible. Like I mentioned earlier. I have been their customer over 10 years. I hope someone with Good Sam's reads this and decides to help one of their longtime customers.

On 9-10-18 we blew a bearing on our 22ft travel trailer while traveling the Western Kentucky Parkway. Myself and my partner have been Good Sam Roadside members since 1995. Called them for a tow of my trailer since I was 15 miles from next exit knowing if I tried to limp there I could do extensive damage. 1st call just got my name, member # and phone # and said dispatcher would call back. Called them back 45 min. later and got a dispatcher. Explained my situation and all seemed to be going well until the following question. "Is your vehicle more than 5 feet from the white line on the side of the road?" I told him we were about 2-3 feet and couldn't go further because of a ditch.

He (Bob) then tells me they can't tow unless we are that 5 feet. As anyone knows that drives on an interstate, the paved shoulder is no wider than 8-10 feet. Your trailer is around 8 feet wide so there is no margin for error especially with a ditch or guardrail. He then says to call 911, get an officer, have them tow me to a parking lot, and then Good Sam will tow me from there! I think NOT. End of call. I call my own wrecker, he says he's not equipped to tow my trailer, but, calls a mobile mechanic for us.

He is there in 10 minutes and 1 hour later he changed 2 sets of bearings and we were back on the road after a total of 5 hours. I have never heard of such a policy and have never been refused help from Good Sam in the past. Obviously something has changed, and it's not for the better. Horrible! In the last day and a half I have traveled on more interstates and 2 lane roads...have only seen a couple areas wide enough...plus it's wet and muddy...horrible policy that is not written anywhere. Going to cancel my roadside assistance.

Those I spoke with at the "claims resolution" department were extremely rude - not willing to help - the last one refused to give me a name and number to his supervisor. On September 1st my 30' Class C had a blow out on the rear driver side tire while en route to the Pocono Mountains in PA. The tire came apart and damaged the wheel well along with one of the storage compartments. I was able to pull on to shoulder of the busy highway, but didn't have any room to spare. There was very little space separating us from the high-speed traffic flow. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and explained the situation. The Customer Service Representative (CSR) asked if we were in a safe location (I said no), told me she would get someone onsite and text me the specifics. I immediately received a text, but it just stated that a GS CSR was working on my issue.

I called back after 60 minutes, connected with a different CSR and asked for a status as the first rep never followed up. I was told she was still trying to locate a service provider and would get back to me. The original CSR finally called back and said she was unable to locate a provider. She then suggested I call the police as they may be able to assist us. I ended up slowly driving down the shoulder until we could get off of the highway. We were able to locate an Auto Zone and I purchased a 20 ton jack, breaker bar, etc. to change the tire myself. So, Good Sam proved to me that I don't need them and the money I'm saving by canceling their service will pay for the tools I had to purchase. I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere, if you don't already have them as your provider. Otherwise, you might want to invest in some tools of your own, if they are your provider.

For some unknown reason that nobody could tell me my membership was cancelled. I talked to 3 people there including a supervisor so far and it is still a mystery. They keep telling me to call back and speak with some other department to find out why. At this point I don't care why anymore, I've already gone back to AAA where I know my limits of 5 uses per year. At the most we have used the service for 2 tows and I think 1 locksmith in the past year. They also claim to have sent a letter explaining why it was cancelled but I never received that letter, big surprise.

Instead our 3 household members including myself, wife and son drove around for months thinking we had coverage. I was stranded on Sunday and was told by dispatch that my membership was cancelled and customer service was closed so I would have to call back on Monday. So I promised the manager I was going to leave bad reviews for their useless service. I will never use nor recommend Good Sam to anyone. So anyway, called AAA the same day and they got the car towed with no problems. They are awesome!

We were 80 miles from home in the same state and Good Sam would not cover any part of the tow. It was very difficult to find someone to tow on a holiday. I had asked to speak with a manager and never got a call back till 4:50 pm. So they left us with no help for 7 hours on 95 degree day with my elderly mother, my 8 year old daughter and two cats. The tow cost 802 dollars and they will not reimburse us any of it. Will not renew membership. Terrible customer service.

August 2018 started out on a camping trip towing are 34-foot fifth wheel to Truckee California. We arrived at the campground and set everything up. The next day we Decided to take a ride to town of Truckee California. Husband realize transmission was stuck in fourth gear and would not shift out of fourth. Called Good Sam Roadside Assistance asked them if they could tow the truck home and the fifth wheel. Was told they would tow truck 38 miles to Reno Nevada. They could also tow the fifth wheel to Reno Nevada. Asked why they could not tow the truck and trailer home. Was told they only tow to the nearest dealer. Would be our responsibility to find a place to stay or to park the fifth wheel to live in. How the truck is being repaired. If the truck could not be repaired it was our responsibility to find a way to get the fifth wheel home and for us to get home.

I explain to the rude person I was talking to when we purchased Good Sam Roadside Assistance from camping world. We were told it would tow our truck and fifth wheel Home.I was told it’s not their problem what camping world tells you. Boy did we learn our lesson. They would only tow the truck to the dealer in Reno Nevada so we had to pay to get the truck towed to the dealer in Elk Grove, Ca where we live and had to pay to have the trailer towed home. So we’re out of pocket $900 because we purchased something and it was not what we thought it was or explained to us. Please beware of what you’re purchasing through Roadside Assistance.

I understand Roadside Assistance has many calls to deal with but they still need to have compassion for the people that are calling in. We're thinking we have coverage then find out we have nothing that we thought we did so of course we’re going to be a little upset. All we want to do is get home Safe. I canceled our Roadside Assistance because it’s not what was explained to us when we purchased it. Anyone have any recommendations for a good insurance that tows your truck and fifth wheel home after a breakdown. Safe travels.

I nearly never write a review but this one is necessary for others to make a informed decision whether or not to go with this company. I have chosen to go with good Sam because they offered a better price than Triple A nevertheless because of some unfortunate events I have had to use the roadside service. Obviously I do not sit around looking for reasons to call the roadside assistance program however, apparently I should not decide to call my roadside assistance when an emergency arises. I will say that they have no problem having anyone as a customer, nevertheless, do not bother to call them In an emergency, because they will cancel you at their discretion. I'm sure they love those people who continue to pay them the monthly fee and never called them however I am not the one and I'm sure there are other people who have been dropped by this Company.

I wish that I could upload the letter I received in the mail for the proof anyone desires to see however, you can take my word for it and if you would like to reach me please contact me at **. I'd be glad to forward you the cancelation letter I received. This is very disheartening because I have been with this company for 3 or 4 years. Nevertheless if you are looking for a company that will love you for your money and will not cancel your policy if you do not make any calls in an emergency this is a good company to give all your money to. Nevertheless if you would like a more reliable company I'm sure you can choose any other roadside assistance company out there.

I hope those reading this will understand that this company is obviously set up to take payments but are not interested in servicing you for the emergencies. Yes they will come out and they will do their part nevertheless if it cost them money then they are not interested in helping you. I understand that 1 or 2 tows will cost more than I pay for the membership however I do also understand that there are thousands of people that do not use their service and that is how this company balances everything out and continues to serve the loyal customers. However they have not chosen to balance out and help those that may have called more than once instead they choose to only keep those who do not call... Pitiful.

We were travelling in a 33 foot Beaver Patriot Motor Home when one of the radius rods that hold the back axle straight failed when the mount at the chassis failed. Fortunately we were only going about 20 MPH when it happened and we were able to drift off to the side of the road. The coach could not be moved as the back wheels were out of alignment and pressed against the wheel wells.

We called GS Roadside assistance and after a long telephone call explaining our location, the type of breakdown, that we may need a lowboy trailer for transport, and everything to them they indicated they would reach out to their vendors and let us know when we could expect assistance. We received a text which indicated they were on it. An hour later they called back and stated that there was no one available and we should call back tomorrow and they would reach out again to their vendors. I asked if they could call me back instead of me calling in again but they insisted that I call them in the morning.

So in the morning we followed their instructions and called in again. I gave the person that answered my GS number so that she could look up our need in the computer. She indicated that they don't enter stuff into the computer and that every time you call you have to start over. I could not believe that they had nothing and I had to go through the whole thing again. What service company wouldn't enter an issue so that they could follow through with it until it was resolved?? This was maddening and made no sense at all.

So I, after a long telephone call explaining our location, the type of breakdown, that we may need a lowboy trailer for transport, and everything to them they indicated they would reach out to their vendors and let us know when we could expect assistance. We received a text which indicated they were on it. An hour later they called back and stated that there was no one available, maybe because it was Sunday and we should call back tomorrow and they would reach out again to their vendors. They also said that they probably wouldn't pay for a lowboy trailer as that would be too expensive.

Now I could see why they didn't use the computer to track progress. It is because they didn't have any intention of doing any more than the same thing every day until we found some other help and went away. Which we did. I found a tow company some 150 miles away that said they would come and help us. They were very helpful and did whatever was needed (it took them over 12 hours) to get us to our repair place. I had to pay them out of pocket and the bill was $1845.00. I have a premium account with Good Sam Roadside assistance specifically because they indicated to me when I was purchasing that they would haul any RV up to 100 miles to a repair shop. AAA didn't offer that service so I switched to Good Sam.

Needless to say I have lost all faith in Good Sam and will stay away from all of their products in the future. They may come through when it is convenient for them but as far as I am concerned they cannot be depended on and the fact that they didn't track the call is just ridiculous and leaves you as the customer with no recourse and very frustrated.

I recently had a breakdown with my 2016 Thor class a motorhome. Using my Good Sam's Club Roadside assistance, I end up going to Camping World of Minnesota for repairs. Camping World of Madison Wisconsin is where I bought my motorhome and the Good Sam's Club Warranty. The Minnesota branch fixed my motorhome the next day. Camping World told me I had to pay them my bill of $1000.00 and send in the paperwork and receipt to Good Sam's Club for reimbursement. After calling Good Sam's to find out where I had to send the paperwork. I was told I did not get pre-approved for repairs and would not get reimbursed.

Even though I was told by a representative for Good Sam's Club and their product, Camping World, what I had to do. A representative of Good Sam's claims told me I could send a letter of what happened and all receipts to them. She said it will take several months before it will be reviewed and will most likely be denied, because I did not get approval before repairs were made. I think Good Sam's Club Charges a lot of money for something they do not want you to use, but you should be happy it's there for you if you need it and Camping World helps them sell it.

I called Good Sam towing assistance and explained the situation. I was placed on hold while the call center operator checked with her supervisor. When she returned, she told me they could not help. Since my RV was in my driveway, it was considered a "convenience", not a disablement. I called later to cancel my membership.

The operator was extremely kind, said they handled calls like this before and he did not understand why it was not covered. We spoke for over 18 minutes while he attempted to clarify whether this was covered. After being on hold for a few minutes, he returned to my call and said he would need to speak to the dispatch supervisor, who had left for the day. He promised he would follow up with me, either by phone or email, the following day when the dispatch supervisor returned. Three days later I still have not heard back from anyone at Good Sam, nor have I received confirmation of my cancellation. In the meantime, I upgraded my AAA auto insurance to add RV coverage.

The additional cost for add-on was $20.00. After waiting the required 48 hours for the change to take effect, I placed a call to AAA for assistance. A tow truck arrived 20 minutes later. They attached a winch cable to my trailer and straightened it out. I would not recommend Good Sam Roadside Assistance to anyone. The plus side to all of this is that I will be saving over $80.00 a year by switching to AAA. Anyone thinking of purchasing an RV, or those who currently own one, I suggest doing a comparison of benefits between Good Sam and AAA (or your current auto insurance company). I wish I had done so years ago.

While traveling home in our RV, had a flat tire in San Dimas, Calif. Called Good Sam and gave them all the information. Was put on hold for excessive amount of time, then told they couldn’t find my location. Repeated info and put on hold for another long period, they finally told me they found someone, but it would be about 1 1/2 hours and I’d have to pay $220 since they only would pay $100 and something. Told the person that was crazy and I’d do it myself. A friend was with me and called AAA and they were there in 30 minutes!!! And no extra charge, so I’ll be switching to them after 7 years as a member of Good Sam Roadside Assistance!!!

We have been contacted, and GSs response has been extremely good. It's hard to get, train and keep good employees and sometimes bad things happen. All of our complaints have been addressed to our satisfaction and more. Also, GS seems to be highly interested in not letting our experience happen to anyone else.

    Original Review: Aug. 12, 2018

On July 18, 2018 while covered by Good Sam Roadside Assistance, we had a towing vehicle breakdown on I-80 5 miles West of Winnemucca, NV. We also weren't getting cell phone connection. Standing on the shoulder just wide enough to get our vehicle and trailer onto, with traffic passing at 80MPH and up, temps in the low 100s at mid afternoon we were in danger. Finally, a fellow RVer stopped and offered his cell phone for us to use. Then the fun began. GS first denied that our vehicle was covered. Then wanted a lot of extraneous info. They wanted our specific address. Mile marker on I-80 in Nevada wasn't good enough.

About 45 minutes of this, and a Deputy Sheriff arrived. After listening to us talking to the GS rep, with her stating she couldn't locate us and get us any help, the Sheriff got on the phone and gave her the name and location of a tow/repair facility in Winnemucca. She argued again, but finally gave it and called them. They we going to leave my camper on the shoulder unless I paid the additional cost to tow it in, but that was minor. Whole thing took over 2 hours to get the tow truck on the way. The rest of the day went well, thanks to the Sheriff and Andreas, the tow truck driver. GS continues to pester me with renewal notices months before the end of my current policy. I think some other business might be getting my call.

Been a member for 8 years. First use was in 2015. Car broke down and took 3 hours (this was in a city with lots of tow companies) because the one guy they were contracted with was in another town. Then, I was told they could tow my brand new VW Diesel to a small, unqualified service shop 2 miles away. My VW dealer was 6 miles away. They charged me for the two extra miles. Since then we haven't used it until this year and we had an extraordinary summer. A flat, then a dead battery on one car, then two separate tow jobs on another car for a ECU problem. Now, their service was very good on all four these occasions. But, three weeks later I get a letter stating they are canceling my policy because we used it too much. We've used it 5 or 6 times in 8 years. That is unbelievable. I will never do business with this company again.

I’ve been a platinum member for 9 years and today I got a flat tire. When I called them, they dispatched me a tow truck, 45 mins go by, no one comes. I call them and they tell me the tow truck cancelled on them and will have to find another tow truck company. Then I wait for another 45 mins now in this crazy heat and can’t rely on Good Sam to get me off the road. They can’t be trusted. Then they tell me it’s going to cost $22.90 to take my car 4 miles to an America’s Tire center. I guess my tire company is not an approved vendor for them because they want me to use Firestone because they get a kickback or commission to go there. This is ridiculous. Don’t use this company. Go with Triple AAA. I used to be with them and never had these issues.

We are a family of three drivers and bought a 3 yr Platinum roadside assistance membership. We just had our membership cancelled due to what they consider overuse. We had an unusual year with our cars. Each needing to use the service twice (flats, dead batteries, etc), all typical roadside assistance issues. In 40 yrs of driving we have rarely used roadside assistance. When I called to inquire about the cancellation I was told we are costing them too much - no discussion just tough luck. They gave us 10 days to get new coverage from the time the cancellation letter was dated, we were already past the date by the time the letter arrived. The last time we used the service we called at 7:30 am, they arrive at 10:43.

I am a disable veteran on a very limited budget, I bought the Platinum RV service to assist when things go wrong with our RV because it seems to cover a lot and seems worth it on paper. That is until you need to use it. So I had my rv parked in front of my home when it wouldn't start. I called Good Sam and asked for a tow to a garage. They said they can only send a mechanic first. So I agreed. He showed up. Tried to jump start it which it wouldn't do. The only thing it did was smoke from the battery and he proceeds to tell me both of my batteries where dead anyway and I need two new ones to start my rv. So I bought two new batteries. As I put them in the wrench hit the pos and negative and shorted out the computer and possibly more. I call again and explain what is happening and request a tow and they again said the same thing that they would have send out a mechanic.

I explained no that it needs to be towed to a shop because it needs a computer and will need to be programmed. They again refused and insisted on sending out a mechanic. He arrives at 615 pm. I watched him do all the things that we have already tried for two hours before he says he can't fix it and then proceeds to give me a 900 bill. I ask how could it possibly be that much. He explains that he drove two and half hours from Tucson and it's two and a half hours back so 5 hours at $120 for travel and 3 hours of trying to fix it.

As I stated before I'm a disable vet and can't afford to be taken advantage of like that. I was told that it was a two hour min at 120 so I was prepared to pay the 240 even a little more if he was able to fix it. I tell them I'm not going to pay that outrageous bill. They say, "Ok we will lower it to 750. That's the best we can do." I again ask, "For what? You didn't do anything. The most I will pay is the 120 per hour for the 2 hours that he tried to fix it." They said, "Pay the $750 or we will come back and tow your rv to our yard in Tucson and if you don't pay we will sale it."

Now I'm really upset. They try and rip me off and now they want to strong arm me. Granted this is not Good Sam direct but the thugs that they sent to me so I call my local police department to see if they have the right to tow my RV and the police tell me, "No that's a civil matter. Unless they are repossessing it with papers they can't just take your RV," but they proceed to say parking on the street where I live is illegal and if I don't get it towed they will so I call Good Sam back once again to get a tow to a shop like I requested all along and they say they won't send a tow until I pay the $750 to the thugs they sent out! This is a horrible company.

This is in addition to the review I left last night. After many phone calls to Good Sam to rectify the bad situation we were in, I escalated it by sending an email to management. This was the best thing to do. Within an hour we had received a message back followed by phone calls. It seems a few employees did not have full understanding of their policies and instead of asking for clarification, they were adamant. The manager just called me again today to check on our progress and was apologetic. I fully believe this will be a learning experience for all and training will be given to make the process smoother. It has been a difficult 24 hours but Mary was absolutely wonderful and I do have faith that this will make them all better. I won't give five stars as I am rating last night's chaos and today's resolution together. Let's hope this makes a change.

    Original Review: July 29, 2018

Today, my husband called for Roadside Assistance as the motorhome covered by Platinum coverage overheated, and was told only one service call per day. He called me while waiting for someone to come help. Someone was dispatched and they brought oil and coolant. In the meantime, I called Customer Service and asked about this policy, which I was unaware of, and was reassured that if the RV was not able to go after the visit, a tow would be covered. I asked about the "one call per day" policy and was reassured that this was not true. The RV started and the person left.

The RV made it only part way through the parking lot and the rad completely blew. He called back and was told the tow would not be covered, in complete opposition to what I was reassured about. He was not offered a tow during his initial call but they are insisting that it was offered and he denied it. Their word against us. Now, at this moment, he is stuck at a rest area at the side of the highway, at 5:30 pm on a Sunday, where shops will be closed. He now has to find his own tow and accommodation for himself and his senior citizen parents who were travelling with him. What kind of shoddy coverage is this?

Not as advertised, BEWARE of the Towing policy. Their system said they could only tow my Prius on a Saturday for free to was a RV and body shop. If I wanted it to go to my Toyota Dealer it was going to cost me $4 a mile (over $150). I asked if they were to pull it to their approved garage and he does not work on Hybrids if I could then get it towed again and was told no. I have been a customer for 13 years and have only used them for jumps, flats and lockouts that I could count on one hand. What good does the service do me for Towing it to a glorified body shop.

I need to work on Monday, my dealership has rentals and loaners to accommodate my needs. BEWARE of their tactics. I found a business on my own that was less than their roadside assistance could offer me. If I could give them a half star I would. The kid they sent to my workplace when a needed a jump over a year ago did not know how to jump a Hybrid, I had to find a video on YouTube for him to watch. Sub Standard Customer Care.

I attempted to contact roadside assistance the call would drop off. I was able to talk with KJ emp# **. She put me on hold for 17 minutes no one came back on the line. But when I called Snyder Tire they stated they didn’t receive the call to come and change my tire until 12:45. It is now 1349 and I’m still waiting for service. This is very poor customer service. I can’t imagine if we were broke down on the side of the freeway and had to wait 2 hours for service day or night.
