Carvana's offer was substantially above CarMAx who offered the same as a local dealer. The process was somewhat sterile with a bot called Sebastian replying to all and any questions.

How does Carvana work?

Carvana is an online used car dealership that allows customers to buy, trade and sell used vehicles.

The vehicles Carvana sells come from several sources, including auctions, customers who trade in or sell their cars to the company and partnered dealerships. Carvana stores its cars at inspection centers across the country. When you purchase a vehicle, the company can ship it to you, or you can pick it up from one of its dozens of “Vending Machines” around the country.

Carvana conducts a 150-point inspection to ensure quality. The cars sold by the company have clean titles, no reported accidents, no frame damage and no fire or flood damage. Carvana backs each vehicle with a 100-day, 4,189-mile limited warranty.

Carvana delivery process

Carvana offers a touchless delivery process:

  1. Identity confirmation: The Carvana Advocate will ask you to send a selfie with your driver’s license to confirm your identity.
  2. Vehicle sanitation: The delivery person will unload the car; sanitize the keys, steering wheel and shifter; and leave your paperwork in the vehicle.
  3. Test-drive: The delivery person will contact you to let you know the vehicle is ready for inspection and a test-drive. They'll wait in their hauler while you confirm you want to go through with the purchase.
  4. Document signing: After your test-drive, the Advocate will call you and walk you through the paperwork.
  5. Document submission: Once the paperwork is complete, you’ll leave it in an envelope for contactless pickup by the driver. You’ll also include your check and title to the vehicle you’re selling, if applicable, in the envelope.
  6. Purchase completion: The Carvana Advocate will review your paperwork from the hauler before leaving; if everything looks good, they’ll finalize the transaction.

If you prefer, you can pick up your car at one of 30-plus Carvana Vending Machines. A Carvana employee meets you at the pickup time to verify your license and insurance via a touchless process. You will receive a custom coin to insert into the vending machine. Once the vehicle is out of the vending machine, you take it for a test-drive. If you're happy with it, you then sign the registration paperwork.

Selling a car to Carvana

Carvana has a straightforward process for selling a car. You start by providing the vehicle identification number (VIN) or license plate information and answering some questions about the vehicle. Carvana provides an offer that’s valid for seven days.

If you accept the offer, you have several options to hand over the car: Carvana can pick up your vehicle, or you can deliver the vehicle to Carvana yourself to a Vending Machine or hub.

  • Pickup: A Carvana Advocate will offer touchless pickup of your vehicle from your location. If you’re trading the vehicle for a different one from Carvana, it will be delivered to you at this time.
  • Drop-off: You can also arrange to meet an Advocate at a Carvana Car Vending Machine or logistics hub, where you can complete a touchless sales process. If you're purchasing another vehicle it'll be ready for you; otherwise Carvana offers to arrange a rideshare for customers within 50 miles of home.

Carvana prices

The amount you spend on Carvana primarily depends on the cost of the car you purchase — vehicles listed on Carvana at the time of publishing range from just over $9,0000 to above $100,000. Carvana allows you to search and filter available vehicles by total price and monthly payment.

You can get free delivery with many vehicles as long as you live within the free delivery area; others have a nonrefundable delivery fee, which ranges from $190 to $599.

Carvana offers its own financing and accepts third-party financing and cash.

My experience with Carvana began with the trade of my 2025 Nissan Frontier for a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. From the trade-in process to the pick up and delivery, the process was seamless. Then, five days later, as I attempted to leave for work, the 2026 Jeep would not start and began displaying multiple failure messages/codes. In all, there were 21 failure codes. In a panic, I called Carvana, explained the situation and let them know that I did NOT want to keep this vehicle. Since I was within the 7-day return window, they explained my options. They were most patient with me and walked me step-by-step through the exchange process. Within a few minutes, I had selected a replacement vehicle and had the delivery scheduled for the following morning. The process was again seamless. The only complaint that I have regarding my experience isn't with Carvana but with the company selected to tow the inoperable vehicle.

To make a very long story short, the tow company initially reached out at 10:15 p.m. to say they arrive within the hour to retrieve the inoperable vehicle. However, they did not arrive at my home to retrieve the inoperable vehicle until 2:40 a.m. Yep, 2:40 IN THE MORNING. Lights flashing, backup alarm sounding, chains rattling then the vehicle being drug out of a garage. I. Was. Livid. The following morning, I placed a call to Carvana to relay my experience. They were most apologetic and assured me that was not the norm.

When the replacement vehicle arrived a short time later, the driver asked me to again tell my experience with the tow company, which I did. He was appalled, most apologetic, and assured me that was not how Carvana conducted business. Other than the fact that I had to return a brand new 2026 Jeep due to 21 failure codes then was jolted from bed at 2:40 a.m. by a tow truck in my driveway, my experience with Carvana themselves was great. The Jeep failure and unacceptable time of the tow company's arrival were no fault of Carvana. I have recommended them to several people and will use them again in the future.

I had a really good experience overall with Carvana. The website is very informative and easy to navigate and pick out a car. It was really great not having to go to a dealer at all and having it delivered was a very smooth process. Bought a 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid and im very happy with it. Because its a newer Honda it still has a lot of the Honda warranty left on it so I felt safe buying it. Not sure how I'd feel buying an older car from Carvana but I can only talk about my experience. The one small complaint I have is the car hadnt been thoroughly cleaned. There were a few spots on the seats and interior that just needed a quick detail cleaning, nothing major. It does say on the website that Carvana saves you money by selling you the car with some "imperfections" that were already there. My only other small complaint was I felt a lil rushed by the people dropping off the car.

They did let me inspect the car and test drive it and ask me if I had any questions. By the time I got back from my test drive they were in the truck waiting to leave. Just felt like they were in a hurry. I really didnt have many questions anyway because everything you need to know is on the website, very clear and detailed. The whole process only took like 20 mins which is great compared to sitting in a dealership for hours waiting on salesmen. You sign most of the papers online quick and easy, only a few things to sign at delivery.

I also appreciate having 7 days to decide if I wanted to keep the car. I knew on day 2 I was in love with my car. The Honda warranty was all the assurance I needed. Not sure how smooth the process would have been if I wasn't happy, or wanted a return. Overall I am extremely happy with my car from Carvana and the experience was fast and easy, will probably never go to a dealer again. I would just recommend anyone using Carvana do a lot of research on the car youre buying ahead of time, the Carvana website was very detailed and helpful in this process.

I was very pleased with the vehicle I purchased, a 2018 Toyota Corolla LE. However, the Advocate (Vincente "Vinny" **) who delivered my car was not very knowledgeable or helpful, especially at the end when I really needed his help. First, he says I can take the car for a spin. I'm in the car getting ready, and Vinny is standing by the window. He's not doing anything for a while until he tells me I need to get out of the car. I need to sign the agreement, or everything is null and void. If that was the case, why did he say I can take the car for a spin in the first place?

Why did he not address me, signing the documents first and foremost? Then he sent those documents to my smartphone (which took a while to show up on my phone). It was hard to read where I needed to sign. Why did he not have it on his tablet? A couple of years ago, I sold my car to Carvana, and the Advocate I had was exceptional. I signed all the documents on his tablet. Then, as I was taking the car for a drive, I had these stickers on the driver's side window, and they were very distracting while driving. Vinny removed them, but one left a huge amount of residue on my windshield. I am still trying to get it off.

Lastly, I was trying to open the trunk with the key fob. I tried opening the door with it, too. It would not work, I figured it out. It was likely the battery. Vinny suggested I get a certain battery, a CR2032, or something like that. Later on, I purchased one on Amazon and had it delivered the same day. Guess what...Vinny gave me the completely wrong battery model number. Now I have to go to the UPS Store to get a refund. In the meantime, I later found out it is another battery model number for my exact key fob. Vinny was in his delivery truck when I tried to flag him down to come help me open the trunk manually with the key. He simply sat in his truck, ignoring me. I was in full view, and I know he saw me. That was literally the dealbreaker for me dealing with this inept Advocate of Carvana. Overall, it was highly frustrating with the delivery, but the car is a dream. Thank you.

I recently sold my car to Carvana at the Spring, Texas location, and the experience was impressive from start to finish. I’m a firm believer in giving credit where it’s due—especially when a company nails the "user experience."

The Process & Communication. Getting a fair offer online was incredibly fast. Once I accepted, the communication was top-tier; I received consistent, helpful updates via email and text that kept the momentum going right up until my appointment. Even the post-sale follow-up has been appropriate and professional.

The Vending Machine Experience. I chose the Spring vending machine location for the hand-off, and I’m glad I did. Watching the machine in action is genuinely cool—it’s a sophisticated piece of tech that turns a mundane chore into an event. The facility was spotless and the staff was prepared and professional, making the actual hand-off remarkably smooth.

Addressing the Negative Reviews. Before my appointment, I did some due diligence and read through the negative feedback online. I noticed a recurring theme: many of the complaints were "nit-pick" issues that most traditional dealerships would simply ignore. I also noticed that many of these negative reviewers seemed to have fake names or a history of *only* posting negative content.

Despite those reviews, Carvana seemed to reply to every single one offering to make things right. My actual experience was the complete opposite of the "internet noise." The digital workflow was intuitive, the staff was knowledgeable, and the transaction was handled with a level of efficiency you rarely see in the automotive industry.

The Bottom Line: If you value your time and want a hassle-free, modern way to sell a vehicle, Carvana has this down to a science. I’d recommend the Spring location to anyone looking for a stress-free experience.

The buying process was overall pretty good. I would say that having to get insurance within less than 24 hours of the order seemed a bit much and forced me to go with an option I may not have chosen otherwise. I will say that the extensions on the loan going forward (the bank was holding it up doing their paperwork) was much appreciated. Vehicle delivery was great. Done in about 20 minutes. The woman who delivered it was very nice and answered all the questions I had. I was able to find some damage and issues that weren't included in the photos. The tailgate has a dent in it with paint missing. There are also some decent scratches on the tailgate.

Additionally the top of the passenger side door jamb and going all across the top of the interior of the door where the weather strip meets the body was clearly repaired at one point. The repair was never completely finished and you could see bare metal. I found this out after ordering running boards and taking them to the shop my dad runs to use the lift to put them on. He was able to prime/paint it, but unfortunately it isn't the exact factory paint.

Also I would seriously suggest getting pictures of the underbody. Especially for trucks. Living in the north east US all the truck frames in this area are rusted out junk. While on the aforementioned lift it was nice to see the frame and most of the underbody are in fantastic shape. Strangely the exhaust is almost rusted out and will require replacement soon. All in all most things were very good. I would suggest getting the underbody pictures and being more detailed with the damage photos. I try not to be nit picky about things and will keep the vehicle. I enjoy the truck, but it would have been nice to have better details.

I purchased a 2025 Hyundai Kona from Carvana with full factory warranty and it was disclosed that the vehicle had been in a minor accident. What was not disclosed is that none of the repairs that should have been done to make the vehicle whole again was done. I took the vehicle to the local dealer for what I thought would be warranty work only to find that the faulty air flap would not be covered under warranty due to all the missing and broken parts from said accident. I reached out to Carvana and was assured they would make things right. Every employee I had contact with agreed after seeing the pictures that the vehicle should not have been sold and at $24k at that.

After sending many documents and pictures carvana made the decision that they would do nothing. I was going to trade the vehicle in with them and was originally offered $20k on a vehicle i purchased 90 days previous for $24k however after the decision was made the trade value went to $12800... Big scam and instead of doing what is right they decided to wash there hands of the situation. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM THESE SCAM ARTISTS. You are safer going to the local buy here pay here as they will ensure the vehicle operates so you continue to pay... To be told a vehicle I purchased from them 3 months previous for $24k is now worth $12800 tells you they are scam artist. Take it for what it is worth and by from your local dealer.. Do get wrapped up in the fact that they will make it convenient and drop off a lemon of a vehicle...

I wanted to sell an old car and I accepted Carvana’s online offer. It was more than 20 years old, and my state will not issue a title for a car that old. The DMV told me I could sell it with just my registration. So I called customer service to explain that and I was told it was fine, they would buy my car. I went to my appointment the following morning and after waiting some time, a salesperson approached me. I smiled at her but she did not smile back, she just said, "Give me your title." So I explained I had none but my registration would suffice, and I said I was told so by Carvana customer service on the phone. She said, "No, they told you the wrong thing," and I said, "I think you are mistaken." She then turned and walked away, saying nothing.

I called the 800 number to ask for help and she did, too, but I hung up with mine to make it less confusing. I explained my situation on the phone and the person there put me on hold to check with leadership, she said. After a long wait, the salesperson walked near me with her phone in her hand and I could hear the woman on the phone saying, "Sorry, we cannot buy your car."

While she was still explaining it to me, the salesperson turned and walked away from me, went through a door and closed it - without speaking to me. Her behavior was weirdly peevish and unmistakably rude. She never said a kind or a professional word to me, she just glared at me and retreated. I spoke to another employee about her unkind behavior, but he said almost nothing to me. I was calm and respectful the whole time while my time was being wasted, and she had no good reason to treat me so poorly. After leaving, I called customer service again and reported the rudeness. The people on the phone seemed nicer. Carvana needs to better train their sales staff, instructing them to be courteous and kind.

Here's a more polished and impactful version of your review while keeping your frustration clear: **Carvana is by far the worst company I have ever had to deal with.** The entire experience felt incredibly frustrating. They collected all of my personal information, only to tell me they needed to verify a previous address from my credit report. I provided the exact address, and they still insisted it was incorrect.

I've lived at that address for over **seven years**. During that time, I've opened multiple credit cards, financed vehicles, and have never had an issue verifying my identity anywhere else. Yet somehow Carvana couldn't verify information that every other lender and financial institution has had no problem confirming. The process felt disorganized, time-consuming, and completely unreasonable. If you're going to collect someone's personal information, you should have a reliable verification process in place instead of sending customers in circles. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Carvana to anyone. It was an absolute waste of time.

After going through all the steps, the final delivery date was moved to the 21st. There should have been a cancel button available right here. They also provide no way of using your own insurance (at least not electronically), so you find out at the end that you have to sign up for their insurance. I have platinum rating for my insurance, I am not using someone else. And now, I have to wait 10-15 days for my money to be back in my account, despite the fact that they were able to pull it in minutes! STAY AWAY!!

You didn’t just drop the ball — you launched it off a cliff. I’ve spent $50–60k on vehicles with you, including a 2019 GMC Yukon SLT literally two weeks ago, and the chaos I’ve dealt with since is unbelievable. Four cars, constant delays, excuses stacked on excuses, and outright gaslighting. Your own staff admitted things were messed up, yet nothing was fixed. Your “zero stress, easy process” core value is a joke. After what I just went through, traditional dealerships are easier, more honest, and more reliable than Carvana. That alone should embarrass you.

One employee tried to help, but even he didn’t care enough to actually resolve the problem. All I asked for was a real solution today — for your company to make this deal right — and you still failed. You didn’t just drop the ball; you spilled every marble across the floor and walked away. You’ve lost my trust, my business, and any future revenue you could have earned from me. I guarantee this experience cost you at least a million dollars in future acquisitions. Customer service, reliability, and accountability are dead at Carvana, and you proved it. I’m beyond disappointed. You’ve lost a customer for life, and my testimony will be shared everywhere it can be heard. I’ve already contacted counsel. You had your opportunity to do good business.

Had been contemplating giving Carvana a try and found it pretty straight forward. Either you buy it, or you don’t. 150 point pre-sale inspection, oil change, etc. before it's listed. 2 finance options of either through them, or your own financing or cash payment. I did down payment + my own financing with a trade-in of my older car. Advice is get pre-approved and shop accordingly. Once decided all documentation is done online via virtual signatures. You set an appointment for pickup at a local venue/kiosk OR for X bucks have it delivered. I chose drive my trade-in and pickup then back home.

Allow couple days for processing. If you don’t the dealership pressures and inflated pricing. Carvana amongst a couple other online options, makes a great alternative. So far I’m totally satisfied with the experience, and my vehicle. The only irritant were the numerous reminder calls each by a different person.

Pros: I enjoyed the ability to sort through 1000s of vehicles online, and was able to find a vehicle that fit my needs in terms of make/model/mileage/ features/pricing without having to haggle with a dealer.

Cons: 1) Delivery was pushed back a day last minute and I had to change my work schedule which caused some stress. This was the more minor issue.

      2) I did an independent inspection to verify the vehicle condition, and the mechanic said it likely would not have passed due to significant rust underneath with a small hole in the frame. I decided to NOT return the car within the 7-day window because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of returning and still needing to find another vehicle. My purchased vehicle was in good condition other than the rust, and I plan on doing the repairs (estimated $2,500) to extend the life of the vehicle.

I wish Carvana would show pictures of the undercarriage to be fully transparent. Even though I have the limited 100 day warranty, rust is not covered under the warranty. I feel this is a little bit misleading because Carvana indicates the vehicle passed their inspection, but the rust was definitely present before I received it, and now I will have to pay out of pocket for the vehicle to be in safe driving condition.
