Not sure why they're even still in business! They can’t be trusted ever so why bother. Just bought a 2024 edge 30k which hidden damage under hood, behind grill, and bumper. Came from Carvana and originally was a Hertz rental. So either way a large dealer is bypassing Carfax intentionally resulting in financial loss for a lot of Americans. And that’s just those two companies. There are many more probably engaging in same actions.!

Both the salesperson, and the finance manager insisted that I had to buy theft insurance. Don't want it. Don't need it once I discovered that they were ripping me off. They don't wanna speak to me about a refund.

Went to trade my 2 year old 1 owner truck in. Dealer said CARFAX report shows minor damage. Truck has never had damage. Filed a complaint with CARFAX. After a week they told me to send documents to support my complaint. How do you send documents to prove something that never happened. After back and forth CARFAX said the report is correct and that is how it is.

I purchased a vehicle from the Carfax website. The vehicle was at a private lot VD Auto Sales. My husband and I were deceived. We asked several times if the car had any damage and we were always told no. There were several pictures and a video. The only damage you could see was on the roof. Upon receipt of the vehicle there was scratches down the passenger side some were deep. Also the back bumper had been hit or backed into something and had damage as well. The vehicle also had tires that were from 3 different manufacturers. They are being replaced on 12/15. The dealer said he will pay $700 for buffing. The estimate we got was over $4000. Other dealers through carfax were completely honest about any damage and the condition of the tires. I have emailed carfax for help and have yet to receive a response. This needs to be resolved.

Went to trade in my car, dealership pulled a Carfax report that said it was totaled. It was in a fender bender but never totaled. Contacted carfax but they said my car was turned in by an insurance company. Asked which company but person said they can't release that information so I'm stuck with a false report and no way to correct it.

I've got a collector sports car that's over 30 years old and I've owned it for more than 20 years now. I have a clean title and was considering selling it, so I pulled a Carfax report to have on hand. They show that approximately 1 year after the vehicle was first sold that a duplicate title was issued and labeled it "Salvage/rebuilt". There are no accidents reported on the Carfax, no total loss, no theft, no flood, nothing to support that claim. I pulled NMVTIS and NICB reports that both show no salvage brand. I began talking to one of their "resolution specialists"- I provided the information I had gathered and requested information about the salvage entry. He refused to acknowledge my request for more information and said that he would need a letter from the state (where the car was titled when the "salvage" label was issued) before they would update anything.
I provided the letter from the state which said they had no such label on that title and no other records for the vehicle. The resolution specialist then just gave his opinion that despite the fact that the state said there is no title brand, they may not have records because of the age of the vehicle. I told him not to include his opinion and that it could just as easily be that there was NO event and hence no records. Due to the entry occurring in the early 90's I suspect this was a clerical issue, but Carfax stopped responding to my emails.
I filed with the BBB nearly a month ago and Carfax still hasn't responded. I have documents from OFFICIAL sources (which Carfax is not) that support my case but Carfax refuses to acknowledge it. Their own report contradicts their claim- they show no accidents, no theft, no flood, no total loss, no odometer issues but somehow when a duplicate title was issued it became "salvage". Other vehicle history reports do not show this brand either. Carfax has no defense so they just ignore me. The company is just about scraping data from the internet and doesn't care about the accuracy of that data. They just want to sell reports.

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Sacramento Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. I bought a new truck from them a few months ago, and at the time, they promised me a free oil change at 3,000 miles if I completed a survey. I did my part and filled out the survey right away. However, when I tried to follow up about this oil change, I got zero response. I specifically contacted a representative named Jonathan, who just didn’t reply at all. When I finally called today, I was told something completely different: that the “free” oil change was actually just a partial discount coupon and that I would have to pay a quarter of the cost. That’s not what I was told at the time of purchase. When I mentioned that I’d post about this online, suddenly he just said “okay, bye” and ended the call. It felt like they didn’t care at all about keeping their word or about good customer service. I wouldn’t recommend this dealership if you expect them to honor their promises.

I recently purchased 4 vehicle history reports from CarFax. I was only able to use 2 reports before I was suddenly restricted from accessing the 3rd one. To make things worse, the history from the first 2 reports I already pulled disappeared from my account. I reached out to customer support multiple times, but after weeks of waiting, I never received any meaningful help or resolution.
This has been an extremely disappointing experience. I paid $109 expecting reliable service, but instead I lost access to reports I rightfully purchased. CarFax needs to improve both their system reliability and their customer support. I would not recommend this service to others based on my experience. The first CarFax report was for my personal vehicle that I own since brand new. My personal vehicle, CarFax, was bloated with major service records, which in fact were just regular oil changes, nothing major, but on the report was noted as a “major service.“ Another consideration of mine was that the ownership was noted as 3 owners and I am the only original owner since brand new. The charges are overwhelming, considering the major inconsistency that you can find. They selling you a data that is incorrect and incomplete and they don’t guarantee it! Speechless.

Old Saybrook Auto Barn. They have a lot of good reviews, but that has not been my experience, though it was short. I was ready to buy there with cash, but the car was out for a repair for several days. Asked to know when it would be there, but the sales rep (Sue) did not follow up. I had to chase her down all the time. When she finally did, get back to me, she informed me that she had left town until the following week (without even letting me know the car was back at the lot) and didn't even acknowledge that we had been waiting for two days to hear from her. I made her a cash offer of about 95% of the asking price. Her response was there were lots of others who wanted the car. I asked for her best offer. She never replied at all. The car has been on their lot (and Car Gurus) for almost 90 days and they've had to cut the price because it's too high. You'd think they'd want to be courteous and prompt if someone was willing to negotiate to buy the car.

Constantly getting inaccurate reminders for service due, service overdue, etc. Repeatedly tried to correct on website. Besides not having correct choices to pick from, keep requesting "required response" for all the personal information they already have of me on file. Seriously!?!? Can't even send a generic concern or complaint, without filling out bunch of irrelevant information they don't need!

I took my car into the shop for a warranty issue. When the dealership looked up the car on Carfax it showed that the car had a Branded Title because it was considered a total loss. Thus, I was unable to get my car serviced. The dealership did provide me a copy of the CarFax which I had to get a letter from the previous owner which was my employer stating that the car had never been totaled out or been in a major accident. CarFax ASSUMED that when the car was titled in AZ by an insurance company it was a total loss. It was not. It was a company car. It took me 3 weeks to get this resolved and get the CarFax corrected. CarFax was unapologetic and this could have cost me THOUSANDS if I were going to sell my car or needed additional repairs. I will never trust them!!!!

My car is for sale. Carfax reported an accident I was involved in. The "accident" was not even close to a fender bender. There was no damage to the car except a scratch on the plastic over the wheel well. Carfax is misrepresenting by not including the details. This is an injustice to the seller. I don't know where Carfax gets its information, but I have the police report and her insurance report that says minimal damage and also from my insurance adjuster.

Called a week ago and I had a great experience great customer service! I got covered on my car at a low rate and even got extra things added to my package! Very pleasant and informative answered all of my questions. I’m extremely happy I signed up. The best part is they work with you as well it fits into your budget and also will adjust your payments to fit with your pay date. I'm very pleased with the outcome and will most definitely be referring my family and friends to the company. I left a high end insurance company with a big name that did not care about their customers. I'm glad I found you guys!! Car insurance and coverage is very important especially if you have a car over 10000 miles. Thank you for everything. Pleased customer here!! Will be letting everybody know about this definitely!! Thanks again!!

To Whom It May Concern, A minor accident was incorrectly reported on one of our customer’s vehicles. This vehicle was not involved in an accident. The issue stemmed from minor clear coat defects from the factory, which were addressed under warranty. The total repair was $1,200 — again, this was not accident-related. We submitted all requested documentation to Carfax on 7/13/25, and were told both yesterday and today that someone would follow up. However, we have yet to receive any response.
This matter is urgent. Please prioritize Case #** and remove the inaccurate accident report from the vehicle’s history. We are extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and delay in resolution. You can see in the attached photos the clearcoat that was incorrectly applied at the factory, Cadillac paid for the repairs under warranty, again no accident ever reported. Thank you for your immediate attention.

Carfax listed Pep Boys service for my car that was never performed and added over 30,000 miles to the odometer reading. This made making new maintenance records impossible. Contacting them about the issue did not result in much. They demanded written statement from Pep Boys to correct this. I have thrown a towel at this, as I am not planning selling my car. Received a reminder lately from Carfax about my car maintenance. Checked the record and now my car has 360,000 miles per CarFax, while in reality it is 72,000. Carfax used to be a convenient tool to manage car maintenance schedule. For the past year it turned itself into a complete garbage.

I believed Carfax reports had to be accurate. After purchasing a car on their website, I was incredibly disappointed. They in no way stand behind their cars. As a single mother, having gone through a divorce, my credit was low and decided to put every penny I had on a car. The car was a complete lemon. I was talked into purchasing a warranty, only to find it doesn’t cover the repairs. I’m out $7000.

I bought a car from Mccluskey Chevrolet. The car fax said no wrecks but after I got the car home I noticed fresh paint on door and fender and a missing bolt and the doors didn't line up. You think while they were doing their 100 and something point inspection they would notice it. The dealer said they would fix it but so far I've called them twice and even went there for them to look at it and nothing. The car was suppose to be a RS but it's not. They sold me something else. And it don't drive very good in the rain. The front end is messed up. Some times I wish I would of never got this car.

This website/company should be shut down by the Government for provided falsified reports and information to consumers in the US. They provide zero customer support with no way to call them for assistance. The only way to reach them is by email to which no one responds too. They post incorrect information with no proof and then put the burden of proof on the owner of the vehicle. How is this legal?! And they make people pay for the false reports!!

I went into a dealership last week to try and get a new car. Apparently, a negative Carfax came back from a false report that had to be transcribed inaccurately. My truck has never had damage to it, since I'm the only one who has owned it...I should know. CarFax reported that my truck was damaged and had to be towed. I sent in an email as requested to the website and no one has check it, responded or even called. I've called them numerous times, and no one is even there. If you're going to screw with people's lives at least have the cajones to receive calls because of your inability to fix false reports, when they are reported.
This company should not be in business if they aren't going to fix problems as soon as they are noticed....and if it takes them 20, 30 or even 40 days to fix something then they need to add more employees who can read a police report correctly, so they can fix problems as soon as notified. How many negative customer reviews do they need before they are forced to fix problems.

DO NOT base your next used car purchase on Carfax reports. They are inaccurate, not verified, and should not be used to purchase a car. Get your car to a good mechanic or use Firestone ($30-40) or other national shops to complete a multipoint inspection and drive it before you buy. If the dealer won’t let you take the vehicle then walk away. Could be hiding something. They also may not have completed work listed on a Carfax report so verify before you buy. Not worth the money for an inaccurate report. Carfax has not made an effort to correct the inaccuracies. My report stated “new front shock(s) replaced” by dealer. See pics of old Ford OEM shocks in place, not new ones.
