    I'm Rosemary **'s daughter. Was in town for the holidays & extremely frustrated trying to resolve a power issue with my mom's current unit at **. Called & was fortunate that Kihana answered my call. She was patient as she led me through the required testing which appeared to not lead to the cause let alone the resolution of the problem. At that point she asked if I could hold which I did. She returned shortly with the resolution -- a new unit was required.

    As I was leaving town before the unit would arrive she put a priority on it (which I gladly paid for) & made sure it was shipped the same day. I was pleasantly surprised that the unit arrived at my mother's house shortly after noon today despite the heavy holiday mail. This I attribute to Kihana's follow through to ensure the package shipped the day I called. Kihana a jewel of an employee & certainly hope you are treating her as such! She resolved a stressful & potentially hazardous situation for my 92 year old mother & for that I will forever be grateful.

    Jessica was very professional and received my complaint calmly and with appropriate concern when I called. Quite upset by BAM's failure to call me or any other emergency contact after my elderly father activated his medical alert device this morning. She is highly competent even if others in the company are not. Although I provided a written list of emergency contacts to BAM when I signed up my dad for the service, BAM failed to list them in his account file. I call that culpable negligence and a deplorable failure to follow through with the essentials of the service my father has been paying for. Jessica was terrific but I would not recommend BAM to anyone based on my experience today.

    Billed for services not rendered. I told them we would not be renewing. They tried to bill us for an extra year when we had already paid for 5 months that mom could not use the service. They violated Illinois Auto Renewal Law, which requires written notice before renewing an auto renewal contract. They not give me any notice. Illinois requires a minimum of 30 days notice and not more than 60. Mother had moved to nursing home. We were late in mailing the equipment back as I thought another relative had done so. We cancelled in April, auto renewal attempt was in August. Thankfully, our credit card had changed at that point so the charge did not go through. This company was totally unresponsive and unreasonable. When told about the legal issue, they lied to BBB.

    Beware of this company's billing practices. Not only are they illegal, they are cold and uncaring about the seniors they are supposed to be helping. No one even asked what happened to my mother. The contract states that they have the right to auto renew until they receive their property, cancellation not in effect until you mail the box back. Illinois law protects consumers from these types of unethical contracts by requiring written notice. We have located and returned the equipment, and would have done so earlier if only they had notified us by mail as required by law (I live in a different state from mother). Beware any company that uses auto renewal.

But I'd like to add that with the payments my daughter makes every month, and the required yearly commitment, I think if the lanyards you provide are faulty, you should replace them any number of times with no charge.     My siblings and I purchased an alarm from (and set up service with) Bay Alarm Medical for our mother in May 2016. I was immediately charged for the alarm pendant. Thinking we were taking advantage of a discount, we set up our account to pay for the service semi-annually. After several days, I noticed that I had not been charged for the upcoming six months of service and that the equipment (receiver) had not shipped. I called and was informed that there had been an error and had to request that they put through the charge again. Nobody had notified me! Further, at no time did anyone point out that, should my mother pass away and we cancel the service during this six-month period, no refund would be given for the portion of the six-month period occurring after her death (i.e., Bay Alarm does not prorate their service).

    My mother passed away in mid-August (2 months into the six-month period), and within days I called Bay Alarm to cancel the service. I encountered the rudest, most unfeeling customer service representative of my entire life, and she left me in tears. When I expressed surprise that no refund would be forthcoming, she repeatedly told me that I had agreed to it (in the fine print) when I set up the service. She was also very rude in informing me (multiple times) that I would be charged for another six months if I didn't return the equipment before the end of the six-month period we had prepaid. Never once was there any expression of condolence for our loss, or in fact any kind word at all.

    After receiving an email confirmation that the service had been cancelled, we unplugged the receiver (as the representative had directed). Immediately, my deceased mother's cell phone rang, startling all of us. Then my cell phone rang and each of my sibling's phones rang. Clearly the representative failed to properly cancel the service. We called Bay Alarm back and spoke to another representative, who was also rude and argued with us, not once apologizing for Bay Alarms error or their lack of kindness. Eventually we spoke to a manager, who assured us that the account was properly canceled and apologized.

    Since then, my siblings and I have received additional auto-generated phone calls from Bay Alarm. I eventually blocked the number from my cell phone. My husband called Bay Alarm last week (mid-October) to confirm the details on returning the equipment. Unbelievably, he was informed that a copy of my mother's death certificate was required to close the account (even though we are not getting a refund!). He was treated as if this were the first time anyone had notified Bay Alarm of the cancellation! That, in turn, generated an email expressing condolence and explaining how to return the equipment. However, I am still receiving reminders about an upcoming billing payment that is scheduled, even after Bay Alarm confirmed that they received the equipment!

    All I can do is shake my head. You sort of assume that the loved one for whom you are purchasing this service will pass away at some point during the contract with Bay Alarm. Customer service representatives should be trained on dealing with grieving loved ones. Bay Alarm should discontinue their greedy practice of failing to refund a prorated amount of the service fees. At the very least, this greedy policy of not prorating service fees should be prominently disclosed to new customers. Bay Alarms internal computer systems need to be updated to communicate with one another, and people need to be more respectful. I can't believe this company has such good reviews. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone!

    I was asked by my in-laws to both research and determine the best in-home medical alert system for their purchase. My father-in-law recently suffered a stroke and this necessitated such an investment for them. I will tell you that I did a great deal of research comparisons and opted with your company as my choice in large part because of your employee Rachelle **.

    Rachelle was open to both my initial lengthy vetting with efficiency in succinct answers to my questions but more importantly at the time of actually completing the purchase over the phone in a family conference call from my in-laws home. A new machine was sent to me and when I unplugged the old unit, I could not get it to stop saying, "it was unplugged etc.", so the person on the phone said to take a sharp object and poke the white button. I said "but I will be charged if I break it." She said no, she will make note that she told me to poke that area with a sharp object. Well you guessed it. They now want $200.00 from me for breaking the white button.

    Today we tried to turn on the alarm system and the box would not power up at all. Although we had signed up with Bay alarm company a long time ago we never actually used the system because my grandmother was being difficult. We had turned the system on when we first got it to see how it worked. However we never actually use the system.

    The box was put in a drawer and left there till today when I tried to turn it on because my grandmother finally gave in. When I called Bay Alarm the customer service tech who was very polite and patient, tried to help in every which way but the unit just would not turn on. The technician recommended we send the unit back to see if it can be fixed and purchase a new unit in the interim. If there is a material defect in the original unit we will receive a refund for the new unit. She also recommended the warranty in case something should happen again.

    The weakest link in your service has been the faulty design of the wristband for your wristwatch style device. The one size fits all band is so long that it flaps on an ordinary size female wrist and tends to catch on things enough to pull the clasp up so the device falls off. Fortunately, I saw it on the rug the two times it slipped off because I was not aware of its coming off. The band needs holes to secure it. Since I had my daughter shorten the now fraying band with scissors and began securing it with a paperclip it stays but it on but looks tacky - a poor advertisement for Bay Alarm when I wear it at social events in my apartment building for seniors. Your consumer service person advised me to buy a new band at my jeweler's.
