We are a Tiny House Community in Mount Laguna, CA. We have used Amerigas for several years and have had issues getting them to refill our tanks and it has required us to spend way too many hours on the phone with their customer resolutions team. A few months ago Amerigas decided to cancel our account without telling us, they then took several tanks off the property that still had 50-70% of the propane left in them. They billed us for an extra tank that was not removed and wouldn't credit us for the propane that we already purchased several months ago. They Charged us $299 per tank for a pickup fee and $119 per tank for a dispatch fee even though all the tanks were picked up on the same trip. We were not told that because Amerigas is no longer servicing RVs that they can't fill our tanks and the account has been closed.

I purchased my home in summer 2021 and have consistently smelled gas since moving in. The first technician to inspect the system told me the tank needed to be replaced and that he would consult his supervisor and call me back due to the tank’s inaccessible location (no truck access for tank swap). I never received a follow-up call. Since then, I’ve made multiple calls reporting the gas smell. On June 23, 2025, I again reported the ongoing issue. Although I requested no technician be sent, one was dispatched. I understand the safety concern, but I had reported the same issue earlier this year without any response. The phone tech on June 23 said he would follow up with his support team about selling me the tank and ending the contract, promising an email within 3–5 days, but I never heard back.
The technician also said on video that I would not be charged for the visit, but I was charged anyway. He also promised a call from his supervisor, which never came. I have visual evidence the tank is leaking and the gas smell continues. No repairs or replacements have been done. Earlier this year, I ordered 100 gallons of propane, but the tank was filled completely at $4.20 per gallon, which I believe is price gouging. I requested a pump-out to reflect only the 100 gallons I ordered, but that request—made in March 2025—has still not been honored. This has been an ongoing safety and service issue with no resolution, poor communication, and unexpected charges.

I had been a customer of AmeriGas for over 30 years. I recently changed to another provider for better service and cheaper rates. It was very difficult to contact Amerigas to cancel my service. When I did, they were very defensive. Then they told me they were going to charge me almost $450 to come and pick up "their" tank, as I had been renting it. That was a "perfect" ending to a very poor relationship. I implore everyone to find another provider for your propane.

Gave them 1 star because I was forced to, they are the worst and deserve none. They are a total black box, no local support or ability to speak to someone outside of India. I have had some bad customer experiences in the past, Amerigas is as bad as it gets. Go with anyone else, anyone.

I would have never chosen Amerigas for my gas supplier if I hadn't bought a foreclosed house and inherited the tank/gas set up originally. They own the tank so it is very hard and expensive to switch suppliers. I am going to have to take the hit and do it just because I am so dissatisfied with them. Call center situation (not in US), they hide the tank rental fee each year in the bill so that you owe a balance which is sneaky. Then getting them there to fix THEIR tank is a nightmare and has led to me running out many times. (Broken gauge) I would stay far away from them and compare to other smaller companies which have better price per gallon and service is in America.

Amerigas billing department overcharged me by over $200 on my 1000 gallon propane tank fill. I’ve been attempting to contact someone in their billing department since March. I’ve call their hard to understand overseas customer service phone multiple times and explained the overcharges. Their overseas Customer service department tells me someone will get back to me but no one ever does.
I’ve also attempted to explain in detail the overcharges on Amerigas’s online chat system and I also emailed their billing dispute department and neither have contacted me back. I just keep receiving monthly $30 late fees and threats of Collection and threats of service interruptions which is a joke because I own my 1000 gallon propane tank so I can buy propane from any company I choose to buy it from. Amerigas has a nonexistent customer service department. What a Horrible customer service experience!! Do not buy propane from amerigas!

Over a month ago I paid IN FULL for a propane tank to be filled at my mom’s house. Amerigas GOT their money! My mom on the other hasn’t gotten service and still hasn’t had service to use her gas stove! My mom has patiently waited a month to use her stove but can’t. 6/13/25 was her first appointment to connnect the tank so my mom could use her stove but nope, they cancelled. Took the time to call customer service AGAIN to make the next appointment which was for 6/24/25. CANCELLED!!!
I called them AGAIN and so did my mom, which has been a customer with them for more than 20 years!! The appointment was made AGAIN for 6/25/25…NO SHOW!! We called AGAIN another appointment for 6/26/25, NO SHOW!!!! At this point this company enjoys taking/stealing their customers money because one doesn’t get what they pay for! The customer service is horrible, why they have people from other countries to take these calls is beyond me. My mom is an elderly woman, a customer for over 20 years, paid her bill IN FULL ON TIME and the situation is causing my mom to have her blood pressure high. I need this to be addressed NOW!! How would you like it if you couldn’t use your stove to make food for yourself to eat?? This MUST get resolved!!

Amerigas purchased my local propane company a couple years ago. As of last year they have updated their terms and conditions, and have started charging me tank rent. Just now, they said that I will have to pay a $140 fee for a "leak test" when I get my tank filled, on top of their "fuel recovery fee" and "hazmat fees" (plus the propane at over $1/gallon over market rate). It took 2 emails before I called to get an explanation, which was that I had no received LP in 2 years. I called back after looking at my invoices online, which showed a delivery 8 months ago. The customer service person checked the records and cancelled the leak test. It costs at least $300 to extract yourself from Amerigas (tank collection fee). They notified me to expect delivery in about a week, then notified me it was coming the next day (when I could not be home to supervise). They try to charge you for everything, and not just a little. Stay away if you can.

As a past customer of almost twenty years of Guilford Gas/Amerigas, my disappointment continues to worsen. We have been paying yearly rental over this time for a propane tank that was thirty years old this year. The serviceman that came to return the tank saw the bubbling and rust on the underside of the tank. It had not been inspected in over 5 years. He told me this tank would certainly be scrapped. I was told that since the tank returned was uninspected and to be scrapped, that a full credit would be issued and we would be paid for the quarter of propane remaining in the tank.
After 4 months of calls speaking to customer service and supervisor, we keep getting the runaround. A promise that a specific individual will call me to correct this situation, but no return call. Now we receive bills for additional $36.00 late fees added onto a situation where we are owed money instead of being billed. Customer Service is broken and the runaround seems to be the only response with empty promises.

I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration with the service I received from your company. Our propane tank required repair, but we were not notified, resulting in a canceled delivery and a disruption to our gas supply. Our kitchen and outdoor grill are entirely reliant on gas, and the lack of notification has caused significant inconvenience.
When I contacted your team, I was told that the earliest available appointment was five days later. This delay is unacceptable, as it means I am currently unable to boil water or use my kitchen appliances, and my groceries are at risk of spoilage. I have spoken to four supervisors, each of whom assured me that they would promptly address the issue, but I have yet to receive a resolution. The lack of emergency response is particularly concerning, as your website advertises this service. I would appreciate it if you could provide a more detailed explanation for the delay and a plan for how you will prevent such incidents in the future.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME! After being Amerigas customers since 2008 we finally had enough. The last straw was with our last delivery. We called and scheduled our tank refill, got our delivery window. They contacted us and said they were coming the next day and to keep the gate open. The next day we got a notice that they were unable to fill the tank because the “gate was closed”. Our gate was locked open, so we got on our video surveillance and not only was the gate open all day long, a propane truck NEVER drove by.
We called them and they said they’d expedite the services and have the delivery the next day, left the gate open and nothing. Called again, then they said that they don’t expedite and it would be during our “window”. Well the last day, we finally had enough. We called them and cancelled our services (they stated that they would have it filled the next day and we said no). Gate was closed.
A week later we came home to find the tank was gone. We went on our video surveillance to see 2 men park the truck at the gate, walk around it and down the driveway, disconnect the tank and roll it back to the truck where it was loaded and carried away. At first we were like, okay, good riddance. Then we got the $362.87 bill, they charge us $299.99 pick up charge, and a $119.99 dispatch fee, which ate up the left of tank rental and remaining propane we were due a refund for.
After multiple responded emails we called to dispute the bill. They stated that they have the fee descriptions listed on the back of our invoices and because you can go on the website and look up the fee prices that it was appropriate. They said that because they had our gate code and location of the tank (from prior delivery attempts) that they were not trespassing, even though they did not use the gate code to enter our property. This was our last straw, we have had many more issues with them, like having them come swap out our tank for new rental for no reason after the technician was complimenting our galvanized steal tank. The company is NOT local anymore; there is no way for you to return the tank on your own and you will pay RIDICULOUS fees when you are ready to finish services with them. Find someone else!

Don't be fooled by their fancy website. Had the opportunity to compare AmeriGas with my local propane supplier. Couldn't believe how bad AmeriGas was ripping off my neighbor. They paid $1.50 more per gallon for propane, tank rental costs were seven (7) times higher, they charge tax on service, and they charge other hidden fees. In addition, their customer service sounds outsourced (not in the US), where they do everything in their power NOT to help you. They are still fighting with AmeriGas over extra inappropriate hidden fees charged to them after they terminated their contract. Run away from this company as fast as you can. There are better local provider options available.

After Amerigas finally corrected a leaking gauge I detected a gas smell. As they requested I called and told them. It was after hours and the customer service man said he would send out a serviceman. He then said I will incur the cost. I said he could wait till working hours because it's been a couple days and the smell after removing the cover has disseminated. He said he had to anyway and the cost would be high after hours. I said not to send anyone but he insisted. The repairman came, checked the valve/gauge and said it seemed ok and probably just released the pressure which could have been the smell. He was sympathetic and said they may want to charge me and to call and explain you did what they requested and the cost should be dismissed.
I called and the customer service man said that if I pay the on call cost of 199.50 he'll dismiss the other charges otherwise they wouldn't fill the tank again. Sounded like coercion but I did since I needed gas in the near future. Even after paying I've been harassed for the additional cost and late fees. Apparently the customer service guy didn't clear my costs. I've called a few time to correct it and told not to worry about it and it would be taken care of. I've sold my house since then and am again getting more billings with more late fees. After numerous attempts to correct they just want additional funds even though I did what customer service requested. This is appalling business practice, unjust if not illegal.

Would give zero stars, but that’s not an option. Tried to schedule a purge to our tank but they won’t schedule these. Since this is our Summer cabin and we are three hours away I was forced to cancel AmeriGas and go with another company that was willing to work with our schedule. I called AmeriGas to pick up their rental tank and a couple of days later received a bill for $420 for the pick up. Now mind you, when I called to schedule the pick up they never mentioned the fee. Apparently it’s buried somewhere in their documents that we all read… I feel $420 is an extremely excessive pick up fee, basically gouging. They were coming from 20 miles away. I called customer service to complain about the large fee and they are unwilling to discuss any kind of adjustment. Please be aware that if you cancel your AmeriGas contract, don’t call them to pick up your tank or you’ll be charged $420.

This company is the worst propane provider for arrogance and safety stupidity requirements. I have my own 1000 gallon buried tank and new house. My tank was installed by a certified State of Texas Railroad Commission plumber. The tank was filled by the tank supplier. Since I own my own tank I shop around for the best price and Amerigas had a great price but they have strings attached. They said they needed to do a safety check which normally cost $360, but they would not charge me.
They sent out an inept person who did not know what he was doing to the point he had to read the instructions for the meter he was using to perform a test on the tank. Then he inspected the connect at house which he said was not correct. Then he wanted to go inside the house and check all the connections to the appliances to include my wife's commercial range/oven. He wanted me to pull out this 600 pound range/oven so he could see that it had a valve connected to the pipe coming out of the wall. After this so called safety inspection I called AmeriGas about this so called safety inspection and every time they said I would get a call from a supervisor. Never happened. STAY AWAY FROM COMPANY. LOOK FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS YOUR BUSINESS AND DOES NOT WANT TO CONTROL YOUR BUSINESS.

Customer service is non existent. Needed a tank replacement in June 2023, but still had some propane in the tank. By December 2023 the issue had become critical but still couldn't get a new tank or propane. Finally ran out of propane and cancelled my account. New company (Suburban) promptly set up new service and on Dec 30, 2023 requested AmeriGas remove their tank from my property. It took until Feb 2025 to get the tank removed, even after multiple requests and threats. In the meantime I continue to get bills for tank rental, the latest in March of 2025 - more than 2 months after they finally removed their tank. AmeriGas has acknowledged multiple time that the account is closed, but they are now reporting that a payment for the 2025 tank rental is more than 60 days overdue. Beware the day you need to move, switch companies, or get a tank of your own…they charged us almost $400 just to terminate service/pick up tank. And you can never payoff the tank you rent…that alone is $120/year for a lifetime. Even the worker who came to pick up the tank implied they’re greedy. In 2021 the electronic gauge was deliberately removed from my tank & delivery became unreliable. You call for a fill & its was weeks before a delivery happened. During an ice storm my beginning tank % was at 14. 8hours of hold time, disconnections and being transferred at least 10 times, Amerigas requested an emergency delivery since my house was then in the low 40s. At 3 am, a man from Amerigas requested to enter my dark home & I declined for personal safety reasons. Corporate comped my bill & put me on a 3 month auto refill schedule even if I didn’t need gas, they had to come check my tank. Remember they removed the meter.
Last winter Amerigas changed my fill to once a year without notification. I called & waited on hold again to find out why I didn’t have gas. They told me it would be to days before I could get an early delivery. I canceled their service. 4 months later I received a text saying my gas would be delivered. Had to call again & hold again. The CS person, outsourced of course, said she saw the cancellation request but didn’t see the work order for tank removal. I was told Amerigas would call to schedule pick up & there was usually a fee for pick up. She was told the tank was empty & had already been disconnected from the gas line. Weeks later, my tank is missing. I received bill today for $419 for an empty tank! Amerigas failed to notify me they were picking up the tank, failed to disclose the cost associated from that removal. I guess I will see them in court!

You cannot get past the non-English speaking people in the call centers. I spoke with people in Chicago, New Jersey, and overseas - in the SAME DAY! There is no way to reach the Local Blairsville GA office. I even went by the old office which is mostly closed and a big sign on door, saying "Not Open to Public, Call the 800 number" which leads to an hour of wasted time. I even mailed 2 hardcopy letters disputing my charges and both were completely ignored. I finally paid the bill and late fees today to avoid more late fees. At first they would recalculate the bill, then they went to a call center out of the country to handle all calls. The call center attendants are sometimes difficult to understand and provide absolutely no assistance. They only knew what the invoice said and there was no deviation. This is, without a doubt, the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I had a gas leak, and my propane tank was red-tagged—a clear safety hazard. Despite this, the gas was left on. When I called, an employee finally came out to turn it off and casually mentioned they only have two technicians for the entire Bay Area. That alone is unacceptable. I’ve since spoken with at least 10 different customer service reps trying to schedule a repair. Some claimed a technician was on the way, so I canceled all my plans and waited—only to find out there was no record of the appointment. I still don’t know if I have an upcoming appointment or not. One operator said it was canceled, another said it’s still scheduled. No one seems to know.
As of now, I’ve had no heat, no gas, and no hot water for days—and no idea when that will change. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was placed on hold for over 30 minutes before realizing I’d been put on infinite hold. The next operator was equally unhelpful. This company reportedly has over 5,000 complaints with the Better Business Bureau in the past 3 years—and my experience makes it clear why. Avoid this company at all costs. The disorganization, lack of communication, and utter disregard for customer safety and time is astounding.

On Dec. 31, it still had 20% and we bought another 100 gallons. In 5 weeks, it had all leaked out. That amount of propane usually lasts us 8-10 months. We scheduled an emergency delivery only to find out that it would cost us $300 and $200 for emergency response, mandatory tank leak check and $1600 for a mandatory fill of a 500 gallon tank @ over $4 a gallon and a 7 day lead time... so, there was no emergency on their side, but we were still required to pay for emergency service.
We called a local family-owned business and they said that they could help us. They showed up later that day and were dumbfounded at the state of our tank. They sprayed a water solution on the fittings and with only 5% propane registering on the tank, the bubbles were blowing like crazy, in more than one place. So we canceled our order. Closed our account and set up a new one and a new tank was delivered and filled in 2 days.
AmeriGas is refusing to refund our lost gas because we didn't pay them to leak check it, they billed us $460 for a dispatch fee and tank pickup. And they are charging me a city tax fee and I have repeatedly told them that I don't live in the city. On my last call with them, they told me to prove that I didn't live in the city limits. This has been going on for 2 months. They are all overseas customer service. You can't reach any local office. They won't give me a name or number of the district boss to call and talk to. But they have charged me a late fee for not paying the latest bill. They have only returned 1 phone call and that was a waste of time. Stay Far, Far Away from this company.

Not sure how they can even be in business. After realizing I was paying double for their propane I switched to another company. Asked them to cancel my account and pick up tank. Other company disconnected there tank and regulator so all they had to do was pick up tank. Tank had 5% or less fuel. Said 1% so was empty when they picked up. They wanted to charge a $119 charge on top of the 299.99 pick up fee. Which I was able to dispute after a painfully long phone call with they where able to cover by adding a rental fee. Took them 4 months to to pick up there tank. OK I will stop for this is getting to long. I'm happy I don't have to deal with them anymore. 🙂 One more thing is couldn't talk to anyone local.

I was on auto fill and they let my tanks run out multiple times then try and charge me extra for an emergency fill. I have been fighting with this company for 5 months after I change companies to close out the account and pick up there tanks. They are trying to charge me for tank rental and late fee on there after I closed the account. There email and phones service are junk the only way I can get ahold of the of someone is calling billing department and being but on hold for 20 mins.

I consider AmeriGas as fraudulent company. This assessment only partially reflects on the customer service agent. AmeriGas by mistake delivered 30 gallons of propane. I am on pre-buy plan and was due for renewal in May. In March working with an agent, I ensured all the remainder money is used for the delivery so that I can start clean in May. Without explaining that they wrongly delivered propane I did not order for, they charged for it at a very high rate (higher than what was agreed upon in pre-buy agreement and kept sending reminders that I pay). I should not be paying anything for their mistake. It is a multibillion-dollar company that can afford to lose 30 gallons of propane. Additionally, even when I have 70% of tank they scheduled delivery, that is unnecessary.

I give this company a -0. The delivery driver was horrible. I was delivered a 100 gallons in my 500 gallon tank when I we requested to fill. Then I smelt gas when I was working in the yard. Then I go into my house and my gas is no longer working. No hot water, no stove etc.. So on my third call to them (the customer service ladies were very respectful) but they can’t tell me when the tech's coming out. So I’m still waiting for a call and they skimped on my gas. Horrible company.

Over 5 months later in March 2025, I get a final bill. $589.27. $327.74 for tank pickup. $131.09 for dispatch and $130.44 for tank rental fee 12/10/2014 - 11/30/25. I did not have their tank after 09/09/2024. And I was paid up on rental through 11/30/2024. I filled out the online form to complain about the rental fee which was wrong. The form says they will get back in 3 business days. Never heard back, I called, forever on hold. Finally got customer service. I explained about the mistake. I could hardly understand the person on the other end. She said pay 1/2 the bill till it gets straightened out. I paid $350.00. I never heard back. 7 days later, a $36.00 late fee was added. This company needs to be avoided by everyone. Scammers.

I don't want to bad mouth a company but I recently terminated my contract with AmeriGas and had the pleasure of working with their customer support (overseas) to address pickup and reimbursement of funds associated with my account. Four weeks after canceling my contact they have yet to pick up the tank and credit my account.
For what ever set of reasons it is impossible to make a call locally to talk with a state-side representative. It is an automated phone answering system that ships your call over-seas. I have difficulty understanding heavy accents and it is frustrating as their service advocates work off scripts and your situation doesn't line up with their script you are wasting your time. You would be wise to do your research prior to signing on with this company. For my area of propane delivery I have found Amerigas propane prices to be exorbitant almost double what I am paying for new propane service now.

AmeriGas has incompetent technicians and I believe unethical business practices. We became new customers, when the first technician came to do a check he put down that he was unable to perform the check because he could not find my home. He was sitting in my driveway and didn’t get out of his truck yet we were charged $199. When I went outside he said the line failed and had to be re-inspected. I said, "You didn’t get out your truck and haven’t checked the line." Then he put a lock on the propane tank. We had to have another inspection days later, another $199 and he said it passed and propane would be delivered the next day.
The next day there is no propane delivery. We call and they say we need another line check. We said it’s been checked and passed. After he leaves we get a bill for 200 gallons of propane. We told the technician to give us a receipt and it said 0.00 No propane delivered. We call AmeriGas and they say we were charged and propane delivered, but the tank is on zero! The representative said she would schedule a delivery but could not because the system shows it’s been delivered. So she sets up a technician appointment and I say no! We are at $740 no propane at all and we will be fighting the charges.

I lived in an apartment serviced by Amerigas from July 2020 to August 2022, when I moved. At the time of my move in 2022, I called Amerigas and told them about my move, as well as my new address, and they assured me that they would set up my new address for service. When I got my first bill in the new apartment later in 2022, I called to ask about my old address still showing on my account. They assured me that the address just hadn't been updated on my account and that they would be sure to update it with my correct, current address.
Now, as I prepare to move from that new apartment in 2025, my landlord has communicated to me that this new address does not and has never received Amerigas service, as this address doesn't have propane service. I called Amerigas, since I had just received a bill of over $800 as I got this information from my landlord, to ask where propane had been being delivered, since I had been dutifully paying regular bills since moving to this apartment in 2022 to the tune of more than $4,000nin total.
I was sent the "correct" address to which the propane had been delivered, which was a mix of my old and current addresses. I told them this was in error and asked again, where had this propane been delivered? The address they had on file does not exist, my landlord says this address does not receive propane... Where has it been going? What have I been paying for? Would I be getting that money back?
I have called them at least four times in the three weeks since I realized this situation existed. Each time, I am told that they will/have opened an investigation and someone will be in touch with me. Sometimes they say within 72 hours, sometimes they say within a day. In all cases, I am have not been contacted by anyone to explain what has gone wrong here and what will be done about it. Though I did get a reminder about that $800+ bill being due. And this service feedback form. I will be calling, again, today to let Amerigas know that my next contact will be with the utilities commission so someone can figure out if this is an honest mistake for which I will be reimbursed or whether I was outright stolen from.

In 2023, my father passed away after being a loyal AmeriGas customer for over 20 years. Following his passing, I requested that the account be closed and the billing address on his account be changed to mine to ensure I wouldn't miss any future correspondence. In October 2024, we sold his property. At the recommendation of our realtor, we had his 120-gallon propane tank partially filled in February 2024. We received 92 gallons, which were fully paid for at that time.
We didn’t receive any invoices until late February 2025, when we were billed for a tank rental covering February 2025 through February 2026. I immediately called to request the tank rental charge be removed, as the new owner was not using AmeriGas. That’s when I was told there would be a $419 tank removal fee, which I found to be excessive. However, I was also told I’d receive a credit for the unused propane at about $3.55 per gallon, so I assumed the net cost would be around $150 to close out the account. When I received the final bill, however, I was shocked. While the tank rental charge was credited, I was now charged $399 for tank removal and an additional $150 Early Termination Fee, totaling nearly $600.
I called AmeriGas customer service, but was connected to representatives in overseas call centers who were unable to resolve the issue. When I was transferred to their “resolution center,” I received the same lack of assistance. I was told the Early Termination Fee was because I hadn’t had the account for three years. I explained that my father had been a customer for over two decades, but was then told that when the billing address was changed to mine, AmeriGas created a new account in my name, effectively resetting the clock and triggering the early termination fee.
To make matters worse, I was also told the tank had 0% propane remaining, which seems highly unlikely given the partial fill just 8 months prior and the fact that the new owner of the house was not using propane. After a frustrating 30-minute call with no resolution, I bit the proverbial bullet and paid the nearly $600 just to be done with AmeriGas.

This past winter, they changed their monitoring system on our tank, which was the most pathetic installation you can even imagine (literally TAPED on the tank), so it didn't work. In the middle of winter, when it was 19 degrees and below, we ran out of gas (although we were on auto refill). We had to wait THREE DAYS for them to come refill it. Our house got down to 40 degrees inside!!! My wife then spent THREE MORE DAYS on the phone with them trying to get them to cover at least part of the gas it took over the next 3 days just to get our house back up to normal temp. Luckily, our heat system wasn't broken from running dry.
Fast forward to NOW, (a few months later) they just came to fill our tank a couple days ago, left a $1k bill, and our tank shows 13% full!!!! Either they never filled it and left a bill (criminal), or the monitoring equipment is broken AGAIN. I'm sure we will spend another 2 or 3 days just trying to reach someone. We get a bill for 2500 dollars and being told we were off the monthly payments and I'm getting an email about collections.
We never even missed a payment. We made two separate payments both prior to due date but SOMEHOW we were late and removed from the payment plan and sent to collections. And suddenly we have another 960 bill added with no explanation, another call and they suddenly are sending an unrequested leak check and charged us another 400 plus dollars. Ironically, there's no leak. We also have no leak inside or any issue with the furnace. So explain to me why our usage would go to triple its use in one winter? After AmeriGas allowed my propane to run out (was on automatic delivery), they delivered propane at a rate 35% higher than other companies in my area. I looked at my bills and realized they kept raising the price each delivery regardless of the market. I then switched companies and had their tanks put on the side of my driveway. I thought I was done and would have to pay the $149 pickup charge. But NO! After calling them to close my account which took literally hours to get to the right person, they charged me close to $500 for the pickup! This even after I verbally verified my charge should be $149!
Later they claimed they had upped their pickup charge. I told them I was never informed. Also they claimed they sent a technician out even so I had told them no technician was needed because the tank were already disconnected. Read the other reviews to understand how bad the customer service is. Supposedly the company denied all my claims even when I sent them my signed agreement that was about 2 years old. After two phone calls of over 40 min each, countless emails and chat conversations just to send them THEIR OWN EMAILED QUOTE, they finally credit me the overcharge. In November 2024 I smelled gas so I called AmeriGas. I was connected to someone about 50 miles away. He said it would take him an hour to get to my house. This is fine and when he arrived, thankfully he did not find any gas leak. My complaint is that Amerigas charged me $430.34 for this episode. I have called to complain about this charge three times. Each time I am told that my request for a credit has been "elevated". But they do not know who this has been elevated to, how long it will take for me to hear back. It is now 2 months and I still do not have any response from Amerigas. Worse yet, there is no way to contact Amerigas or to complain other than to call customer service. This seems very unfair and I feel like I have been disregarded. I would like a credit to my account. Isn't there supposed to be accountability from a utility company?

I have been a customer for 15 years and have given them over $20,000 worth of business. I could NOT believe how I was treated as a long-term customer. UNACCEPTABLE!! AmeriGas is by far the worst propane company I have ever had to deal with. The tank rental fees started out not too bad but then they kept upping the fees to the point that they are way higher than anyone in our area and their propane is more expensive too! When it comes to getting rid of their service it's going to cost you a fat chunk of change and a good amount of time. Every number you call plan on being on hold for at least an hour (that's the longest we waited and still no one answered). We were finally able to get a human response via online chat with Vijaypal & the other one was Mascafara. Good thing it was via text and not a phone cal. This is the response to our request to cancel their terrible service:
"I understand your request and can certainly schedule a time for tank pickup. Before proceeding, I’d like to inform you of the applicable fees for closing your account and tank removal:
Tank pick-up charge: $299.99Service dispatch fee: $119.99
Early termination fee: $149.99 (only if the tenure is below 3 years)
These fees are outlined in our terms and conditions and will be charged to your account once the tank is picked up. If you notice any discrepancies once the invoice is added to your account, please feel free to reach out for further discussion."
Read the fine print, they don't actually list the fee amounts, I'm guessing those change. "Would you like me to proceed with scheduling the pickup?" Hell yes! Get your stuff out of here! "The charges will be applied once the tank is picked up. If you’d like, once you receive the invoice, you can reach out to us for further discussion or a possible resolution." Yeah, doubtful they'll answer that call either.

Amerigas does not care about their customers and does not care if you have been on time with payment for almost 20 years. They make ridiculous excuses for why they are unable to deliver and their customer service is abysmal at best. Any calls to the company are routed to an overseas call center.
There are no means to reach the local office and the call center is either unable or unwilling to assist with any type of intervention. The only reason we even use this company at this point is that they own the tank and it costs thousands of dollars to have it removed and replaced by a more reputable business. You can never reach the local office—they are completely unresponsive. The Indian call center is at least polite and answers the phone, but they lack any real authority to help with anything. Even they were unable to reach the local office and told me it would take 24-72 hours just to hear back.
I’m canceling my service, and they are demanding nearly $500 just to pick up the tanks I’ve been renting from them—tanks that I cannot return myself because they refuse to allow it. This fee is supposedly justified by the “inspection” they claim to perform on every fill-up, but that’s a complete joke. I had two separate fill-ups where the bottom stand rings were completely rusted out and at serious risk of failure. Did their techs mention anything? No. They just filled the tanks and left, leaving a dangerous situation unnoticed. The only reason I caught it was sheer luck, as these tanks are on a part of my property I rarely check.
So what exactly is my rental fee paying for? Certainly not safety or proper maintenance. This company is happy to take your money but does nothing to ensure their own equipment is in proper condition. And when you finally decide to leave, they gouge you for more money on the way out. This is the definition of a predatory company—they don’t care about safety, customer service, or fairness, just squeezing every last dollar out of their customers. Do yourself a favor and find another provider before you get trapped in their web of fees and negligence.

This tank is/was installed by AmeriGas over 3 years ago. Now there's an issue. I pay rent on this tank and Amerigas does not maintain it properly. What is up with this? The customer service agent (out of country) set up a delivery date in 3 days. 2 weeks later on a scheduled appointment a tech showed up in the rain only to tell me he found the issue (the tank too close to the house) and could not do anything due to the weather and heavy truck messing up my yard. Again had to wait another two weeks for another tech to perform the service. On the scheduled day, I get home from work only to find out the work was not performed due to me not being there. I found attempted phone calls around 4 PM in the evening of missed calls and the service was not performed. Be advised that I told the call center that I was not able to take calls while at work and have dogs. I had the dogs put up and still no service. Contacted Customer service again and no action can be taken but wait another 2 weeks.
Please note that when this started I had 20% gas in the tank and now have been at 0% for over a week. Amerigas just doesn't get it. The customer service people cannot speak English clearly and difficult to talk with and do not try to escalate the issue. The only recourse for the supervisors is to send an email to the dispatch team, so really no escalation at all. The fact that I have had no heat or hot water for the past 4 days and it's been 30 degrees here doesn't mean anything. I just got off the phone with them again and was assured that an email was sent and my request is urgent. Waiting to see if I will get propane on day 5...

I have made multiple phone calls to their customer service department, which is not in the US, and can not get any results. They scheduled an appointment through email and then did not show up but sent an email saying the service call was done. I just got off the phone again and am told it will be another 11 days before the would be able to come to the house. They have the worse customer service/repair that I have ever seen. Over that number of years contract amendments were sent to me. No one ever reads that stuff. For the last three years, my gauge has been broken on my tank (underground tank). They keep sending me a bill for tank rental that I’m not going to pay for a faulty tank that I can’t see how much gas is in there. They won’t fix the gauge when there is gas in the tank so for the third time in three years, I have run out of gas empty called them a week ago elevated from standard representative to supervisor he promised he would take care of me that was seven days ago. Can’t cook and can’t dry any clothes. Terrible customer service they could care less about you run from them.

Then they decided to come on 2/13 the only day it snowed this week. Now on 2/14 no delivery and they are saying 7-10 days. I have spent over 2 hrs this week calling for clarity on this matter. I'd take the star away, but it won't let me post this without it. I was an AmeriGas Propane customer for 11 years. Their prices seemed reasonable and the service was always acceptable. When they started monitoring tank levels I was thrilled and signed up for Keep Full immediately. Yesterday my heater started acting up. I ask Alexa to set the temp to 74 on My Ecobee and she came back and ask did I want to reverse the last command. Sounded a little strange but I replied no.
Shortly after my heater came on and then went off again right away. I waited a little while and repeated the command. The heater came on and ran normally. I thought it was just me. Later when it felt cool I ask Alexa to turn the heat up. Once again, the heater started and shut down rapidly. Wondering what Alexa was wanting me to reverse, I went to the thermostat and checked everything. Looked okay to me, but the technicians who installed my heater set everything up and I thought I had done something wrong.
I contacted support for My Ecobee and tried to work through the problem with them. Their Tech had me pull the unit off the wall and cross a couple of wires. He said that would make the heater start if something was wrong with the thermostat. Nothing happened and he said I should contact an HVAC tech. When the tech came, he checked everything and said there was nothing wrong with my unit. He asked me to try my stove and it didn't work either. We then checked the propane tank and the gage read -0-. By then it was almost 9:00 pm & I ran for the store hoping to get a portable heater. The store closed right before I arrived. I spent the night snuggled in my waterbed.
The 1st thing I did this morning was call the local number for AmeriGas. The man who answered was very snooty and said I had switched to “Will Call”. I explained that I had done nothing with my account except pay the bills. He insisted. He informed me that they could deliver gas today but there would be an additional charge of $300 for an “Urgent Fill”. But I'm on “Keep Full”.
Asking to speak with his supervisor he left me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back on the line saying he was transferring me to the supervisor now. That was what he said before he placed me on hold??? The longer I waited the madder I got. Sitting in front of my computer while holding for well over 30 minutes I started looking for other suppliers in the area. Still waiting for the supervisor, I dialed my cell phone and spoke with a different company. The lady emailed me an application to fill out and assured me I would have propane today.
I completed the application while I was holding. When the supervisor finally answered the phone, I explained what happened. He started with the "Urgent Call Fee" and I stopped him. I no longer want any service from your company. You were under contract to keep my tank full and your company blew it. I emailed the application back to the new supplier.
I had a tank full of gas and a working heater by 2:00 PM. When my new supplier delivered the gas, he saw the AmeriGas transmitter on the tank and his office called me before he would fill the tank. He suggested I call them and have them pick the unit up or they would continue to "monitor" my tank and charge me $200 a month for the unit. I made that call as soon as I came back in the house. I also told them I would be writing this review. I'd recommend skipping the agony and calling anyone else. AmeriGas is determined to gouge customers to their fullest extent.

Amerigas does not care about their customers. We pay timely every month and are on auto delivery. They never deliver when they say and repeatedly tell you it's coming and it doesn't. I have received responses from them telling you what you want to hear and not delivering. They let us run out last month. It was freezing out and we cook with propane too. They give you an earliest and latest date and never stand by it. We were now supposed to receive our delivery on Feb 11th at the latest and no delivery.
We are at 17% and now they changed the status to Feb 16 to the 19. They call that urgent. We have made 4 calls to them and are having to keep driveway salted and free of snow. This is getting costly and our anxiety is at an all time high. We are told we will receive a call but no call back. We are told we will get emails but just empty promises. I am again worried we will run out for the second time in a row. Completely stressed out. When we call they cannot tell us if we are on the route for that day or they tell us we are and still have to wonder if we will actually get a delivery. This is completely unacceptable.

I have called customer service 8x over 3 days, spent hours on the phone all while trying to work, they first told me my account was closed 3 years ago and they would have to reactivate it, it’s not closed, if they can’t figure it out, they just hang up on you after you have been on hold, finally this morning they transferred me to someone local.
She said there was no documentation that my tank was locked- I have the paperwork and no gas, I offered to pay the 150$ ridiculous fee upfront if they could come out, she was going to call me back- it’s 330 and no call back- at this point not expecting one. So in conclusion- I have a full tank of gas that I cannot use, it’s freezing, and I can’t even use the stove to cook. I would give it negative 5 reviews if I could. They do not care about you as a customer and WILL NOT OFFER ANY SOLUTION! But they will take your money with a smile!

I have been with this company for six years and in good standing. Gas delivery was always on time and the drivers were super nice. Recently however I was having problems with my heater and requested a line check to make sure it was all good. The serviceman was awesome and left me a bill (which I signed) for $199.50. When I went in line to pay it the bill was over $400, so I contacted via chat and was told to email customer service to dispute the charge. I have now emailed three times, always got an automated response that someone would contact me, but that has never happened. They then charged a late fee on my bill, so I sent them a check for the $199.50 plus $36 for late fee along with a letter explaining how I've tried to reach them to no avail. I included a copy of the bill I signed at time of service.
My check has never been cashed and I've had no contact. I recently sent a letter with the paper bill explaining that I have all the receipts for everything I've done and to date still no contact. I got a new bill which now includes a phantom charge for another $269, with no explanation. I now am on the hook for over $700 which I will not pay. I have contacted Better Business Bureau, but am not sure what to expect there. I sent them copies of my original bill, all emails and letters. Subject: Urgent Issues with AmeriGas Account and Credit Checks. AmeriGas, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I have received from AmeriGas over the past few days. I have been a loyal customer for over 18 years and have never encountered issues regarding my gas supply until now. On January 16, I contacted AmeriGas for a routine inquiry, during which my credit was checked, and I was assured that everything was in order. However, I later received a call indicating that I needed to undergo another credit check. Initially, I spoke with Samuel, and today, I spoke with Joyce, who acknowledged that the previous email sent to me was an error on AmeriGas's part. Despite this, she insisted that I complete another credit check.
To my surprise, Joyce claimed that my credit score was below AmeriGas's requirements, even though I have an excellent credit score 840. I was subsequently transferred to Nakia, whose call was unexpectedly disconnected. I then spoke with Dorcas, who attempted to run my credit again but informed me that it was not going through properly. Finally, I was connected with Sheba, who quoted a demand for $1,592.00 and stated that she would schedule a gas delivery for Monday.
This entire experience has been both frustrating and confusing. I expect clarity and professionalism from my service provider, especially after such a long-standing relationship. I request an immediate review of my account and the processes involved in this matter. Please provide a clear explanation regarding the credit check requirements and the charges mentioned.
We are currently out of gas, and with the cold temperatures, our home lacks heat. We were initially informed that we would receive gas by Monday, February 3, 2025. However, we've now received an email stating our estimated delivery window is between February 10 and February 13, 2025, with the promise of an email notification prior to delivery. This situation is unacceptable and needs to be addressed immediately. Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue. I look forward to your swift response.

We have been customers for 10 years and always had the automated refill, so we were surprised when our gas ran out 2 days ago. When we called to find out why, we were told our account was an "on call" account, however, we were never notified of any changes to our service. The rep we spoke with first was extremely nice, but was not able to provide any real information about why we were now an on-call account, when that change was made, and most importantly, when our tank would be refilled. It's taken me 4 calls to them to get them to finally agree to apply the prepaid account to the postpaid account which is now past due because of their incompetence.
Additionally, this corrupt company tells me that I have to pay an additional $137 to fully pay off my account. My account had a Zero balance prior to all of this. I had always paid the account off promptly. I'm going to pay their extorsion to get my account settled and be done with them. He then transferred us to another department that could help us. We waited on HOLD FOR AN HOUR, then we were hung up on. My husband and I are LIVID! We have locked our animals up in the house for 2 days waiting for a delivery that evidently will NEVER COME. Our animals are stuck at the house basically ALONE for the past 3.5 days while we have to vacate somewhere else because there is NO HEAT TO OUR HOUSE.
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!! This is not even our first issue with them, and anytime you need to call to speak to someone, they are NOT in this country. There is nobody who can or will help us, and after reading these reviews I am surprised they have any positive reviews or business. This is ABSOLUTELY asinine. My family has been WITHOUT heat for the past 4 days. They say they're going to deliver and then we aren't even on their routes!!!! But they're more than happy to charge EXTRA to deliver IMMEDIATELY when my delivery is past due!!!!

They said we would have it by. We asked if we could get a discount because it is number one out of the time frame and number two horrible communication and we were told no. We are completely out of propane, running space heaters all around the house so we at least have some sort of heat. I definitely DO NOT recommend AmeriGas. Extremely unprofessional!!!

If I could leave zero stars I would. This company has terrible customer service. Multiple times I have waited on hold and was redirected to other departments to be hung up on while on hold. Upon my first delivery they canceled on the day it was due, then I had to take off another day or work to be there for the initial start of service for them to do an “inspection”. The delivery driver called me complaining that I was out of her way and she wanted to come another day, when I said no she came and was in a hurry, I’m not sure an inspection was ever really done and have concerns there’s an issue with my gas line as my tank ran empty in less than a month, they are now requiring that I have another inspection done for $140 three months after initial start of service but no one will answer questions about the inspection. I have written a complaint to the company and never heard back.

Since AmeriGas took over Pardee Gas, the service has drastically declined. Customer service is terrible, with significant communication issues due to a language barrier, and there is no way to escalate concerns to a supervisor. On top of that, the cost of gas is excessively inflated. My breaking point came when I placed a gas order during the third week of December 2024 and waited until January 17, 2025, with no delivery. We had to use a number of space heaters to keep us warm. I had to seek emergency services from another company, as AmeriGas kept telling me they are en route and never showed up! Worst customer service ever. I have automatic delivery setup and this is the second time in a row that I've completely run out of gas. The first time, they scheduled a delivery and never showed 3x, it took more than 3 weeks to get a delivery (was supposed to be within 48 hours), and the only reason I was finally able to get resolution is because I messaged the CFO, VP customer service, and several other senior executives on LinkedIn - the only one who ever got back to me was the CFO. Fast-forward the months, and I'm in the exact same position again - automatic delivery failed, completely out of propane in the dead of winter in the suburbs of Boston, I can't cook for my family, not use my fireplaces. I had to call for an urgent delivery, the chat agent I connected with (no love customer service agent EVER answers the phone) assured me I would receive my driver's Friday or Saturday at the latest. It is now Sunday afternoon - still no propane. This is absolutely MADDENING.

This company is highly unprofessional. If you need customer assistance, you will receive a bare minimum response after holding on the phone for sometimes more than an hour. You will be lied to with regard to pricing and help will come from someone other than an individual located in the United States. When I called for a tank fill I was given one price. When Amerigas finally got around to filling my tank, it was higher price than quoted. Additionally, my tank was not filled to the standard 80% required but rather to 70%. According to Amerigas, this was due to the fact that their delivery truck ran out of propane. What this means to the consumer is additional fees in the way of a delivery, rifled with surcharges, fuel fees, delivery fees etc., more often AND the risk of paying a higher amount for the propane. One might suspect this is done purposefully for the above mentioned reasons.
Thankfully, we own our propane tank. What that means for us is we have the choice who provides our fill services. I sincerely hope Amerigas is put out of business due to these never ending issues, because there is always issues. I don’t have to do business with them moving forward and for that I celebrate. This company is not located in the USA, you will never speak to anyone who speaks fluent English. They mislead you and lock you in by adding absurd tank fees, only to force you into paying double the going rate for propane. I was told I would have to pay more than $2 more per gallon than any other company so I switched. Well, switching comes with a $280 tank rental fee, if you have them come get your tank they charge you for cancelling your "contract" and try to force you to pay $299 for an early termination fee, $149 for a dispatch fee, and $119 for a pick up fee. Now I could understand charging to pick up the tank, but to force you to pay $569 just to cancel is insane. Since I use 1100 gallons of propane per year the fees to remove the tank are far less than what I would have to pay if I kept using them which would be $2200 on top of what I am already paying. Worst company ever, maybe the election can change something with these people.

They gave me a date of 3 weeks! After MULTIPLE "supervisors" I finally got one installed in about 3 days--no call that they were coming, no knock on the door before or after they finished, only a text. Now I am at 10% of fuel--it going to be 7 degrees tomorrow. I was told they would deliver on Dec 11th--no show. I was then told December 16th--again no show. We have a dual fuel heating unit so if we run out and THEN they fill it we still will not have heat until the heat and air company comes to fix it because there will be no gas in the line. I have NEVER dealt with a company like this.
Maybe if English was not the second language of those we speak to it would be different--I have to REPEATEDLY say the same thing over and over for them to understand. I'm so done with this company!!! Our 250 gal is considered full at 200 gal (80%), at 15% the level gauge is the red zone a good guess would be 30 gal, we made our first of four calls at 12% which was at 6% on delivery leaving 14.5 gal and given the upcoming weather event we would have been out of propane in 1 1/2 days, that’s three short of the projected delivery date. IMHO, their algorithm fails to include upcoming weather events and the short sidedness of this customer dissatisfaction and creates unsafe working conditions for their delivery drivers due to forced emergency deliveries.
