I absolutely do not recommend renting from Turo. The main reason is because the person you are renting the vehicle from can just cancel everything all of a sudden, which can be a huge inconvenience! I tried to rent another vehicle and the owner declined my trip. The note said something about the vehicle needing repairs, yet it was still posted on Turo afterwards. Not everyone rent a vehicle for leisure. Some of us actually have important appointments to get to!
If you rent a vehicle from a typical rental place, yes, you will have to have a credit card, but at the same time, you will not have to worry about them cancelling your reservation!! On top of that, I texted Dan who claimed he would help me and that I could text him. I texted him asking how long it would take for a refund to be completed. After an hour, I did not hear back from him. I tried live chat. After over 50 minutes no one came. At first I was number 24. Then I saw something to click on to resume the chat. Before clicking that I was number 7. After clicking on that, I was number 18! I have never experienced anything like this before.

We tried 3 different times to use Turo and we're unuccessful every time. The first time, we reserved a car and had to wait 30 minutes before we could even try to book again. Once he did not confirm, we tried again and the exact same thing happened. Finally, we booked a car that was guaranteed. We never heard from the person and paid a taxi to go pick up the car at the address that was provided. When we arrived, it was a apartment complex and he was nowhere to be found. He did not answer his text messages and he did not answer his phone calls. Avoid this company at all costs! Very dissatisfied customer.

We rented a Hummer in Hawaii with about 31k miles on it. This was our first Turo experience and were initially excited for the Hummer experience. While driving the Hummer started to overheat. Then the check engine light came on. Shortly after a "SERV TMP" alert came on the dash. So, the car started falling apart. I alerted the host as it's generally encouraged to handle any problems with the host before contacting the service. I messaged the host, and he admitted that he didn't have time in between the last renter and us to get the car serviced. He apologized but didn't offer another car or anything else. We were not told there were problems with the car or else we would not have rented it. Anyway, we blasted the heat in the car even though we were in Hawaii in the middle of July so it's hot AF, but we got by.
I logged into Turo and I see there's a $125 charge for "cleaning fees" on the account and I'm barred from renting another car. The customer service agent said the exterior was dirty. Really, some mud on the outside warranted $100 by Turo's standards is "HEAVY CLEANING - $100 Major stains or residue on seat fabric or other hard-to-clean surfaces." This didn't exist on the car at all.
The host chose this fee to try and make more money, probably to fix all the car problems! At this point I'm mad. I tell Turo that the car was in barely usable condition, and that their terms and conditions require that this be disclosed to renters prior to the trip taking place. They couldn't care less. They just said they'll report it to management and someone will follow up with me. They also said it was up to the renter to report this, and because we "had the car the entire time" it was somehow not an issue. This is BS. God forbid the car break down when we were on one-lane roads alongside a cliff.
Turo clearly doesn't have a checks and balances to see if the fees the hosts want to charge are even warranted, and in their Terms it states the renter has to pay any fees, otherwise they will come after you with Collections. Who knows if the host will even be charged for violating the terms of providing a safe vehicle with all mechanical issues known up front. Turo doesn't care, as long as they get their admin fees as a middleman.

We rented a truck through Turo while vacationing in Oregon. The truck was very dirty inside and out, with severe damage on the passenger door (so much so, that the key could not be used on the passenger door). This was NOT revealed in any of the photos that were posted in the listing. Worse, the truck did not sound right as we drove away from the airport. Within 24 hours, it began to stall. Within 48 hours it completely broke down, leaving us stranded in a town with no other car rentals (also, there were no Uber, Lyft, taxis, etc).
We had to hitchhike to a nearby store. We continuously tried to contact Turo's customer support from the beginning. It has been over a week, and we still haven't been able to get a hold of anyone. All we want is a refund. We paid for 6 days. The 48 hours we had the vehicle were incredibly scary since we had to push it off a busy highway at one point. It's unbelievable that the company will not speak to us. (I just logged onto my Turo account before submitting this review. There were no messages from support. However, I am no longer approved to drive and my account status says that I am unable to rent a vehicle through them!)

I personally will never use Turo again because of the pain and suffering I got from dealing with Turo and the owner of the vehicle I rented from Turo. This person rented me a car that was (filthy with dirt inside and out, with a half tank of gas, and the car had accident damage on the front right fender (on top) from before my reservation. Although those things were problems, the main problems were arose when I brought the car back to him. He refused the car and told me he's pick it up later (in two hours or so... When I refused to agree to wait two hours or more, until he was ready, owner accused me of being unappreciative and ungrateful. Does Turo have an "unappreciative or ungrateful" clause in contract agreed to? If so, I didn't see it. The dirty car and the half tank of gas were problems, but, the return of the car to Adam was unbelievable.
After relaying my story (many times) to people whom I was assured would help me, I received no help... What I got instead was (sometimes).a sympathetic ear and what sounded to me like "yeah, that's right. ".but later in the day I started hearing "but our contract reads, blah, blah, blah." I assert that if Turo didn't vet this collaborator, who lied on many occasions to me, about me and tried to defraud me, it is not my fault. When I sensed something fishy going on, I told Turo about it. On or about 7/14/18 I was told owner Adam ** had filed a damage and towing claim and he didn't even have the car... Because of the fraudulent claims by the owner and lack of investigation by Turo, I didn't have a chance of a fair outcome dealing with Turo, or its collaborator ADAM **.

Rented vehicle & host canceled because they said the brakes are being repaired. Turo says I will not receive my refund for 30 days!!! The car should have never been listed on the site if it was not operable, nor should Turo have taken my money if the car was not operable. The fact that the host contacted me after I had already paid for the service and it was canceled by them, Turo should have refunded my money immediately. If this isn't fraud, I do not know what is????

We rented two cars through Turo for my adult daughter and I. We were traveling with a two year old. One problem after another and the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. We were told that since my daughter made both reservations in her name one would need to transfer and we had to call Turo with hold time approaching 20 minutes. Once we got someone on the phone then they told us to cancel and rebook but suddenly the car price went up 5 times the original amount. On hold again with a Specialist for 25 minutes and still waiting.
To add to this my daughter just renewed her driver's license and has the yellow paper until she gets the new one in the mail and they won’t rent to her so she’s on hold too. They say to avoid the rental counter but that would have been a joy compared to this. Fortunately my granddaughter is being good but she is hungry and tired. Or one person tried to actually help us and instead we just keep holding. This is ridiculous.

Turo - What a great service - I have praised it to everyone I met since my recent trip with my son on his college orientation at the U of O. The Mini Cooper was reasonably priced, about half the price of traditional car rental, and the pick and drop off was super easy too. Two issues, one the app feature that allowed me to track the car on arrival was not available on my iPhone; driver speculated that because the start time was earlier than the actual pick up, I missed my window. Second not being able to change the start time and finish time without fully canceling reservation was not so convenient. Both issues could just be me being not so tech savvy. Net net will use again and tell my friends.

Turo is a great app for the modern traveler which facilities mobility in new cities. In comparison to traditional rental agencies, Turo offers several services like pick up/drop off, communication through the app and convenient exchanges of information and money if need be. The only downfall is the mileage cap so users looking to go extra the mile during vacation should pay close attention to the odometer.

I am pleased with the last Turo host, however the host before canceled on us last minute and messed up some of our plans and we spent way over budget. The Turo host that came to the rescue was awesome and totally worth paying the extra money, but I wish I wouldn't have had to pay that much. Also, the young renter fee wasn't immediately told to the renter and so that seemed very shady to add that at the end. I'm 24 years old and the reason I wanted to use Turo in the first place was because I thought they weren't trying to charge me extra for that, but apparently they don't tell you that until you are already checking out. So overall good experience with the car and host, but I don't know if I would use Turo again. At least not until I'm 25.

Will never rent car again from Turo and will inform my friends and family the same. I rented car through Turo for 1 week, Turo charged me to 7 full days Jul 3rd to Jul 10th. I picked the car at 1 Am and returned car at 8:30 PM. Turo charged me additional $100 even though I informed the host I was late and he was aligned and he in fact came to pick the car at 8:30 and not before. I even sent the text message conversation between me and the host as Turo requested. So not sure why Turo would charge me $100.
I requested waiver. I would only get email that this is the policy even though it was first experience. Initially when I booked I had so many challenges making reservation and the host would cancel my request even up to the date of travel. The cars are NOT reliable. The car I rented had oil change turned and it even wobbled during the rental period if I was on highway. Unlike traditional car companies Turo does not have concept of customer service. I left a few crumbs on the seat and floor, which, within their stated cleaning policy, is not eligible for a fee since it could have been shaken or toweled off. Their photos show no pet hair or paw prints yet they are insisting that that's what it is. The owner of the car saw the car when I dropped it off to him in person and said there was no problem. The only possible applicable fee would be $30 for light cleaning that does amount to stains or residue. They are ripping me off and charging an administrative fee as well. Do I have recourse?

I was an early adopter to AirBnB and hope to be an adopter of Turo. For this to happen it is essential drivers be honest about the cleanliness of the vehicle. The vehicle I used was a 2005, which I was 100% prepared to use an older, nicer vehicle, but I was not prepared to have it unkept (interior & exterior) and smelly. I was willing to overlook the uncleanliness, because the driver explained and apologized for not having looked at the car, after the last driver, due to the death of his dog.
The owner assumed the driver would have cleaned it, as required in the agreement (or pay a cleaning fee). Again, I was willing to overlook this, but on top of what has been explained, the car was dead. The experience took approximately 2hrs. to resolve, even before I could begin my trip. Again, the driver was apologetic and offered for me to have the car detailed, after the battery was jumped. Unfortunately, I did not have time, as I was now almost 2 hours late to my event.

I started the trip but I never realized that I had to start/begin the trip in the app. I only thought about it the next day and called Turo to confirm if it's okay to do that then and the customer care representative helped me with it. I would give a 0 Star if it's possible, or even negative stars. Experience here was super horrible. $500 was immediately taken from my card as deposit once the owner reported damages within 24 hrs. Even if part of the damages were not done by me. Turo said they will get an Appraisal to investigate the pictures to see if it was a pre-existing damage. And subsequently, without informing me, they deducted additional costs to damages they suppose I did, based on market price. Replied them through their email to request for another attachment about how it was charged, and what was charged, (because I deleted my email and I could not access the pictures, since I have to LOG IN to see the jpg and pdf files) but no replies from them.
Called the hotline that I found from Google, and the person on the phone with me, could not do anything. They claim that their reports processing completes within 2-5 days/1 week. Do you know why? Because renter's money are already being deducted, and they would not do anything to check again, thus renters have to just accept the tragedy. NEVER EVER RENT FROM TURO. Go to a proper renting store, research on them, buy all your insurance.

You know WHAT time it is picked up & I returned it early - stressed from travel & my extremely short trip. I should have done research first before even working with this Uber like rental company. I was approved to drive and rent on their app, then I proceed and booked a 6 day rentals on a vehicle, now Luso, the host, asked for a driver license, I lost my license so I gave them a paper copy from DMV, the host says can't accept the temp license but didn't told me anything how to proceed. Chatting with the host to get info takes a lot of delays. I asked for refunds, and was told, "Not all of your money will be refunded. You only have One hour from the time you booked the vehicle to cancel to get a full refund." So if you have questions with the host and he answers your questions a day after, you will ends up with the hefty fees, if you need to cancel. Lesson learned. Overall I had a great experience with Turo. The only hiccups were that when my flight landed late at night and 20 minutes behind schedule, the driver had left her car in the short term parking lot with the keys in it, but I didn't see her message (through the Turo app) right away and she of course didn't answer the phone or respond to texts that late at night. So it took a phone call to Turo and about 15 minutes for them to direct me to the Turo app where I then saw the message about where the car was. It ended up being a very convenient way to get the car and go, but perhaps the Turo app could encourage users to turn on notifications so I would have seen this message from the driver sooner to start. Of course most people would think to check the app right away but I was sleepy. :)
On my return I was originally going to have to pick up the driver on my way to the airport and that would have added about 45 minutes of driving for me. That was a bummer, but then the driver let me know a few hours before that I could just meet someone at the airport to pick the car up. So the drop off ended up being extremely convenient also - met the driver right at my door to departures and after about a 1 minute exchange I was on my way. AWESOME and so much better than a classic rental car return. I'm not sure how often Turo users have to go out of their way to drop off or pick up the driver at the beginning and end of the trip but if it were organized the way my trip ended up it would be amazing! To go out of your way more than 10-15 minutes to drop off and pick up drivers is less ideal, but probably still worth it for the savings. Looking forward to trying Turo again!

Overall experience was clear and concise with expectations and fees. The entire trip was as planned except the $25 fee for a 1 hour extension. Perhaps I missed the statement of fees incurred in the contract, but for a $27 car A DAY, $25 to extend an hour that was approved by the owner seemed excessive. I ended up lolly gagging around waiting on that hour (I didn't end up needing it). Owner wasn't able to get the car from the parking garage until MUCH later, so it's not like he was renting it straight from my trip. Otherwise, i have recommended you to colleagues and they are on a trip right now with your company. Awesome idea, saved a ton of $. Thanks.

The disadvantage is the possibility of financial penalties if one can't pick up the car as planned. First the driver was supposed the drop the car off at airport for me and didn’t! So I had to catch a shuttle bus to get the car! I was sent the wrong address by the car owner! It took me 36 mins to get my rental car and me and my boyfriend was waiting in the heat for that long while we waited for our car to be bring to us + we had our luggage which made it worse!
Then when it was time to return, our return time for the car was 11am! I called the car owner at 9:30 and said can I return the car by 12! "I will fill your tank all the way up" because he only required us to fill it up half way, he said, "Yes. That’s fine!" So I said great, the app says to drop the car off at the airport, I called him back to see where and he said, "Drop the car off at the same location you picked it up from!" So long story short I wasted a lot of time and money with this app, because the app ended up charging me +75 more dollars for returning the car an hour late after the car owner said it’s fine! I hate this app, and will never use this app again.

As I've traveled around the world I've tried all the various peer-to-peer car sharing platforms and Turo has consistently ranked at the top of that list. All car sharing companies are fairly new, still growing, and still learning, so there will be some ups and downs with any of them. Join Turo and you can read through each individual host's reviews and choose a host with multiple excellent five star reviews and in return you should have an excellent experience renting a car from that hosts.
Turo will take care of both the guest and the host and make sure both parties are treated fair. Normally the people that have bad experiences renting a car on Turo are the same people who return the car damaged, driven way over the allowed miles, return the car dirty inside and out, don't refill the gas, and return it several hours late.
Then when Turo charges them fees they retaliate by writing a vindictive one-star review, which is unfair to the host and Turo itself. I used TURO as a car owner using a BMW 740li 2012. Costly car. I chose the best insurance, and after damage had been done to my vehicle they refused to cover all of it. They said they would only cover SOME of the damage due to pictures being turned in after the 24hr period. Even though wear and tear on the vehicle was covered as I purchased the most expensive insurance (60/40 PREMIUM).
The damage was not seen until later as it was underneath the car bumper. Keep in mind I have had a perfect rental history all 5 star reviews. 7 in total. When I went to escalate the file to an executive account rep since it had been going on 10 months that our file was in dispute and we accidentally called one of the representatives cell personal phone which was PUBLICLY ONLINE and they said we violated terms and shut down our account. Completely. Also they if we disagree with what they say we can go to a third party representative which they choose, and pay for... I'm sure that third party is really unbiased... We refuse to settle on the limited damage that was done and therefore have been stuck. TURO is the WORST. DO NOT USE These scam artists. REPRESENTATIVES INVOLVED: Brendan, Todd, Kenneth, LUKE.

After six days of diligent research, I was able to contact the mother of the woman who did not return my vehicle. I found it abandoned 40 miles out of town. Turo then REFUSED to acknowledge or pay for any damage when I provided all the required proof. They also implemented NO FEES for my stolen vehicle. They did not reimburse me for the six days my vehicle was missing. I have requested to speak with a higher up several times and they've refused to acknowledge my requests. I used Turo in Ireland just recently May/June 2018 and overall had a flawless, better than promised experience. The app on my phone was a godsend and kept me in touch directly with the host who was renting the car to me. We had some minor confusion with pickup location (my fault) but he was very understanding and patient. We had agreed on a specific car which happened to be already rented but he replaced it (as agreed ahead of time) with an even better one at the same price. He was honest, fair and a pleasure to work with.
I used the Turo in app facility (at Turo’s request) to photograph the car inside and out before and after renting and felt this was a great idea as I have fallen prey to the nonaccident accident that several of the large car rental companies have tried to pull on me. I absolutely loved the simplicity of this entire experience, though I had no problems (thankfully). I cannot comment on any further experience with Turo but the first class one I just had. Great job.

I had an account that was breached and I received a notification that my credit card and personal information has been hacked so when I called them to find out what was going on, I was told to contact via e-mail. They made me submit pictures of my license, credit card, insurance, pay stubs, bank account and a selfie of me holding my license only to tell me that they cannot give me any information regarding my account and deactivated me without any reason. I am so disgusted by the inhumane way that they handle business. I really hope no one else falls for this scam. This isn't a free market to rent cars, rather it is just a way to collect your data so they can sell your identity and information to third parties. BEWARE! THEY WILL SELL YOUR INFORMATION!!! First of all the vehicle did not look like the one I first reserved on on the app. So I planned a small trip with a budget up to San Jose, Ca with my family. I made reservations at hotel as well. We decided to use Turo again. We found a mini van within our budget that allowed 800 miles for 4 days at a total price of $248.97. That’s including the discount for referring someone and insurance added to the vehicles well. Wow what a great deal so I thought. I requested Uber to take me to pick up the vehicle. Upon arrival I was shocked the mini van had campaign ads "Elect for Bob ** LA County Sheriff June 5" over the windows. I could believe it. I really thought it was some kind of prank. The owner ask me if that was a problem. I responded, "What do you think."
Now remember I’m going on vacation, My family is at the house getting ready waiting on me. This happened on Friday, it’s Memorial Day weekend. Monday is a holiday. The owner said, "Well if you don’t like it go ahead and cancel." Now can someone tell me where am I gonna find a deal at the last minute? I know the answer. Nowhere. I swallowed my pride and nodded my head. I said, "Yeah I’ll take it." I got home. My wife was speechless. Embarrassed. I finally convinced her. But it was hard. Keep in mind I drove almost 800 miles round trip. If you ever travel on the 5 fwy you know there is tire debris every where.
Upon returning the vehicle just how the owner requested cleaned, wash and full of gas he discovered a small scuff mark on the lower driver side bumper near the fog light. He asked me what happened. I said, "I didn’t even know that was there." He responded by saying, "Don’t worry. I’ll use the insurance and pay me." That was it.
A day or two later Turo requested $500 dollars from to start the insurance claim. I was not happy at all. I called Turo. They give the run around how someone is handling your case and they’ll get in touch with you. Finally someone did but it was a lost cause. I explained everything about the ads on the vehicle, the scuff mark and of course the insurance I had purchased. The Turo rep was not really trying to listen to what I had to say or hear any complaints. She looked at the pictures and agreed that is not really a big deal and and the damage should be way less than five hundred dollars.
3 days later they withdrew $500 from my credit card. The next day I get that email about that payment. A second email a minute later how they took another $120.94 to cover the amount owed. Plus this statement. "Please note, if a supplement is filed (in plain language, if additional damage is found), we will notify you once complete to determine any impact on your financial responsibility." This vehicle, insurance, gas and damages cost us $1009.91. I should have just bought plane tickets round trip for $500. Beware. Turo is not here to help you if you have a real accident. I think they will clean your bank account.

As a car owner, my experience with Turo has been horrendous. One of the drivers that rented my car was in an accident that caused significant damage to the front of my car. I chose the insurance plan in the middle, which provides for essentially total coverage in the event of an accident. The accident occurred on May 8, 2018. Turo assessed the damage using the pictures submitted by both myself and the renter. Because of the extent of the damage, they referred my claim to a third party called David Morse and Associates. The claim agent at David Morse and Associates has been absolutely terrible, non-communicative, took several days to get back to me, and then altogether stopped returning my calls.
Turo customer service was polite but essentially didn't lift a finger when I told them that the claim agent at their third party was completely unresponsive. Eventually, the claim agent arranged for an appraiser to evaluate the damage to my car. That took several days to occur. The appraiser took a few days to return the estimate, at which point the claim agent was supposed to arrange a tow for the car to a repair shop of my choice. That also took several days. The car was finally towed to a repair shop this Tuesday, but it has now been 23 days since the accident occurred and the car has still not been repaired. Their process for handling major accidents is completely inefficient and essentially leaves the owner without any means of transportation.
With the middle insurance plan, they're supposed to cover Uber/Lyft rides, but there is a limit of $30 a day, so if you need to travel somewhere far, you're out of luck. Please, please heed my advice and never use this service as a car owner. From what I have now read online after my experience, they're equally awful to renters. This company is not going to survive the way it treats its customers.

After reporting that guy I chose a different host for my second trip. I got an email on the second day saying suspicious activity reported. All I did was go to work. Seriously. I'm a security guard. How suspicious can that be? I called customer service and attempted to argue this out with the person who answered who by the way had the same name as the one on the email. She continually insisted I take a photo of my license and send it to her.
First of no way... I don't know her. And secondly... I'M AT WORK. Company policy is no photography or video of any kind. Period. But she still kept insisting that just one photo would be ok. I asked for her supervisor and was told her supervisor was in a meeting. It's 3 a.m.? So I said have your supervisor call me. I waited two hours. No phone call. I called them back. Got someone completely different. This guy said she never even put it in the notes that I asked for a supervisor. Sounds sketchy. Like she's a list and a scammer. I asked about the time. She said it's 3 pm where they are. It was 3 am here. So they aren't even truly in the U.S. So pissed. I feel like it's retaliation because I threatened to sue them over the recording problems.

I have experienced the WORST customer experience I've ever known these last 2 months from Turo. I signed up on the recommendation of a friend, and I really wish I had done my research because I would have found this website and seen all of the negative reviews. The rental process was fine, until I received a claim from Turo staff that the owner has "reported smoking in the car" and issued me an automatic $200 USD fine. I explained my side, I absolutely wasn't smoking in the car (I've never smoked in my life!), and that it smelled when I received the car from her.
My credit card was automatically deducted before we were even able to come to a resolution, and after 2 months of emails going back and forth with Turo customer service, their only argument was that the owner had reported "evidence" that it had been me. This evidence was a photo of some remnants of tobacco on the back seat of the car. The time stamp was 14 hours after I dropped off the car. It's still a mystery to me how this is compelling "evidence" and outweighs the customer's side in a classic her word versus mine. My guess is the dodgy owner (ANDRAS, Nissan Versa 2012) planted it there herself to earn a quick $200. It seems very convenient, and is also quite a large fee for something that isn't permanent damage to the car!
After pushing my case for 2 months, and experiencing very frustrating email responses from their customer service, such as this "If the owner of the vehicle agrees to waive the smoking fee, we can easily waive it for you. We cannot process any refund or waiving any fee because the owner requested it. I can see that you already reach out to the owner about the smoking fee. Please feel free to reply to this email if you have additional concerns. It is my pleasure to make sure that you receive the best support that you deserve." Well yes of course I have additional concerns, this email answers nothing!
I also referenced their legal terms and conditions - The relevant section on the Turo website states: "At the end of your trip, replace the gas you used and meet the owner to drop off the car. Walk around the car again, hand over the keys, give them a high five, and start planning your next adventure." And finally asking for my case to be escalated to senior customer service they came back and offered me a refund of $25 (of the $200 fine). This is not a reasonable resolution, and I am still perplexed as to how weighted the support is for car owners vs an innocent customer. I cannot believe Turo is still running as a company, DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE. It is an absolute SCAM.

They immediately charge your account 500$ even if the damage will cost nowhere near that amount. And then after the claim has been paid and closed they’ll randomly decide to open it back up and change you for “additional damages” without any explanation of what those are!
They also give you an option to not pay the amount in full right away but don’t even give you a chance to respond before charging your account for the payment in full 30 seconds after the email was sent! Also if you try calling no one in their office can help you because the claims department doesn’t even have a phone number so you’re stuck emailing back and forth with who even know if it’s a real person or an automatic response from a computer. I booked a car for 2 days and upon pickup it appeared visibly to be in good condition, however on the second day I noticed a loud and highly unnerving flapping sound while driving on the highway. Upon inspection, I noticed that part of the wheel guard and undercarriage had come loose and was literally hanging off the vehicle. There was no accident, incident, off-roading or otherwise discernible cause for the damage that occurred during my rental period, part of the car just started falling off for no reason, after only 2.5 hours of normal, totally uneventful highway driving.
Quite aside from the fact that Turo should not be renting vehicles that need any maintenance whatsoever, driving this car actually felt dangerous. Had the wheel guard or undercarriage become detached while driving at high speeds on the highway it could have gone flying through someone’s windshield and seriously injured or killed them. Or if it had become jammed in the wheels it could have caused an accident in which I could have been hurt. At one point I actually considered calling a friend to come and pick me up because I was not sure that it was safe to drive home.
To the host's credit, she apologised when I dropped the car off, which indicated that she took responsibility for the problem, however that did not stop her from filing a damage claim. Turo, however, has for some inexplicable reason determined that I am responsible for parts of her car falling off for no clear reason in spite of this acknowledgement and attempted to charge my card for repair costs without my permission or approval. Their justification is that because I did not notice the damage at pick up (and did not take photos, which is a very strange requirement that is not publicized or made clear upfront), it must obviously be my fault.
Regardless of the absurdity of the photo requirement, this is faulty logic because a) a vehicle can visibly appear to be OK but still have problems that make it not roadworthy (engine problems would not be visible, your average renter would not inspect the undercarriage etc.), and b) short of being in an accident (which they agreed I wasn’t), I can’t think what I could possibly have done in 2.5 hours of normal driving that would cause large parts of the car to fall off. Maria’s car was clearly in need of serious maintenance and this would no doubt have happened to whoever drove it next. Unfortunately I was in the driver’s seat when the problem came to ahead and am now stuck dealing with a dispute and charges for repairs to someone else’s faulty vehicle.
In short, this company is a scam that rents cars that do not have regular safety checks and you would be well-advised not to rent from them. They clearly do not care about the safety of the people they are renting to and will charge you for issues that are not your fault, most likely to keep their hosts happy and avoid shouldering the costs themselves. I am actually in two minds as to whether to take them to small claims court or sue and will under no circumstances rent from them again. You should stay away.

But he says all I have to do is follow the email that he'd send to me that would request me to send a picture of my driver's license front and back and selfie holding my license. I did so and the response from some Filipino foreigner is my account has been rejected because my driver's license is not me. How'd they let me open an account 2 years ago with a fake name? I give up. Stupid company. Dumbass techs. Killing brains. Greedy **.

I rented a car via Turo for a whole month for $625. As the month was almost over I contacted the car's owner and said I'd like to rent for another month. He happily agreed. Only thing was the car needed an oil change - the indicator was on about this. The owner told me to go do it and he'd pay me back so I did it on the last day of the rental which was then meant to continue for another month. When I signed up to go for another month the monthly rental came up at $850 instead of the prior month's $625. I told the owner this wasn't fair and he said he'd fix it try again in half an hour. I did again and this time it was even more, $910.
I told the owner and he said, "No problem. Try again in half an hour." I did a third time and now it was $950. So the price was up 150% from $625 to $950, didn't seem fair. I told the owner I didn't want it at these prices. Also the allowed miles per month went from 2625 to 1500. A bad deal all around. The owner joyfully told me that I was now late in returning the car and owed him $50 extra per hour and he would not pay for the oil change I did for his car and was promised paid back. By now it was 10 or 11pm at night and I went to sleep tired of this nonsense and this dishonest car owner. Next day I awoke to threatening messages from Turo about the overdue car and from the car owner that he is reporting the car stolen to the police and coming to my residence to ** teach me a lesson, have me arrested, etc.
I worked for hours with Turo customer service and they helped me to resolve this ultimately, to their credit, but of course the car owner could do no wrong and is still active on their site ripping off others. I am unable to write him a bad review. I also tried to get a different car but my account is suspended apparently. So it's all my fault for dealing with a dishonest car owner trying to rip me off and me refusing to be ripped off. The car owner wanted me to return the car at some random parking lot near our local airport. No thanks for people talking about hurting me. I parked the car on my street and told Turo to have him send someone to get it - he promised them it would be his helper and not him to avoid confrontation.
Instead he showed up personally banging on my front door, kicking in the glass of one of my windows, with 4 thug friends of his and when I didn't answer the door, he called 911 and had 3 police cars do the full drama of the "stolen car" for my neighbors to witness and enjoy. Turo is pretty inept and clueless about human relations and how to cope with being mediators on both sides of a transaction like this. As I've said, my account is gone but this dishonest creep is good to go to repeat such nonsense with the next victim via the helpful people at Turo. Long term this is not a business strategy.

I had a bad experience with Turo. I needed a car in the U.S for a one-day trip. I was running one hour late on my way back to the destination. I tried to inform the owner in advance but I used a temporary number for the U.S and had a phone issue so unfortunately I went through communication issue. I arrived one hour later and give the car back to the owner. I totally understand that late return and communication issue are not tolerated and are subject to fees, but I wish I could have had an exchange with the Customer Service about it. However, when I contacted Turo to apologize and explain the issues I faced, the Customer service never answered me back and blocked my account to prevent me to rent a car in the future.
However, they were really effective to send me an expensive bill fees for my one hour late arrival that cost me more than the whole day renting the car. I was really disappointed by the lack of consideration from the Customer Service that treated me like a thief or something. I am a foreigner and I assume that most people who rent a car on Turo are not from the area as well so they should be more understanding with this kind of issue.

I reach out to their customer service team to unlock my account. I go through their "procedures" to verify my identity. That is to send pictures of my credit card, my driver's license and my photo. I do all that, next they ask me to verify my phone number and email address, which I also do. Here's the kicker after, they wanted to know who I "allegedly" shared my account with. And while I'm reasonable enough to comply with that first two requests, the third is where I draw the line. I've never encountered a company to imply that I shared my information with someone else. Their methods are certainly quite invasive and borderline violates my privacy. Even my bank doesn't do that when I get my account locked from time to time. All this hassle to unlock an account, if this any other professional company, my account would have already been unlocked.

I booked a reservation on Turo App for 6 days and for some reason the App change the dates and put 2 days more and I didn't noticed until they called me the next day after the booking and said the car was waiting for me at the airport. I was on the app a Tuesday to get the car on Friday and the system put the reservation for Wednesday... They charge me the cancellation fee and I was agree since it was my fault not noticing the day the system put on the checkout (confirmation) besides that if I want the car for Friday which is the original day, I have to pay more than if I took the car on Wednesday...
So I think is an strategy to charge clients more. How is possible you are going to pay more for less days of rental and put the extra charge of the cancellation fee. At the end I have to pay them almost $200.00 for a car I didn't use and the car cost was $125.00 per day and a cancellation that I didn't expected because I rented for the correct days and the app is very tricky for their convenience.

As part of the application process you are required to take a selfie holding your driver's license & also one of you holding the credit card you will be using. I was turned down because of no TransUnion Car Insurance report. I prefer not to own & utilize public transportation because I choose to assist the environment & make a minimal carbon imprint. There is no indication that a TransUnion report will be pulled. The denial should have come BEFORE taking personal information & photos of DL & CC. I regretted that I may have opened the door wide for identity theft. It was an urgent personal matter & I only had a debit card at the time. I since have a CC & used Enterprise Rental instead.

I had an issue with a car owner and when I cancelled Turo asked if I was uncomfortable. Yes, was the answer. Over time, the owner of the car was unresponsive and was incurring negative reviews in the process from other people. As a person with mobility issues, this was postnatally going to not be a successful solo trip for me. The first customer service rep said they would give me a full refund but then a second rep, P ** spent the two days of emails telling me that I was wrong and wouldn't get a refund. I was tired of dealing with this Turo rep and had to ask her to stop bothering me. Highly unprofessional of Turo to allow this kind of treatment. I did find another owner and feel like I will have a successful trip, but double minded as to if I use them again. I filled out a complaint report, but have heard from no one.

We had a bad experience when using Turo. We rented a car in Hawaii and the car itself had pre-existing damages. We took a video of the car before our trip so that all evidence was recorded and we could drive with peace of mind. We did the same when dropped off the car. Once we dropped off the car, the owner filled a dispute for damages totalling $800+. We had video evidence to support this was pre-existing.
PROBLEM 1: Turo demanded we send them all evidence within 24 hours. If we wait any longer, they will take the money from our card. So if you're travelling... better find Wi-Fi FAST!! because the phone app won't work for this. Visiting an ill family member? Better ditch them to find Wi-Fi... Apparently, Turo think 24 hours is fine because quote: "You either have the evidence or you don't." PROBLEM 2: Turo offer only EMAIL support. You CANNOT call them. You try calling Turo, you will be passed around a bunch of menu options and none of them lead to a physical person. They take OVER 24 hours to reply to you... So if you have problems, tough luck, because you better send all that evidence over within 24 hours because you will not be able to talk to Turo in that time.
PROBLEM 3: We followed the guide we received via email and submitted some picture evidence. Get this... The website DOES NOT SUPPORT VIDEO EVIDENCE. I took the initiate and renamed the video to .txt and left a description. I also uploaded the video to YouTube and put in the link in. They debited my credit card for $800 and stated that I did not provide any evidence. What!? PROBLEM 4: After emailing back and forth, a day wait in between each communication because they are as slow as hell replying when it really matters, I opened a case with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). This lit a fire under them because I soon received some preferential treatment. Money was finally refunded, despite it being taken from my account illegally.
PROBLEM 5: Turo users can charge up to $250 for a cleaning fee. So if you're renting a nice shiny white car, you're **. Better clean that baby nice and clean and take photos, or you'll be $250 up the spout. PROBLEM 6: The owner of our car was able to charge if the gas level was not full when dropped off. Turo allows car owners to do this. We picked the car up and the gas was just below full. After driving around, we totaled that 80-100 miles were missing from full. In the paperwork for our agreement, it states the car was full when collected. To avoid the fee, we filled the car up, but we knew we were being had. I submitted the evidence to Turo and they ignored the question 4 times. Finally, they addressed it and stated quote: "You took that from a different angle, the car is full".
Do yourself a favor, spend a little extra and rent from somebody like Hertz and not these bunch of pirates. Trust me, you'll be happy you did!! At no point did Turo apologize, not once. At no point did they penalize or ban this car owner. We were finally refunded by Turo because TURO made this mistake. The car owner still kept the $800 despite trying to charge us for pre-existing damage. This car owner is free to carry on and rip people off. I assume that Turo gets a nice cut from rentals because they are clearly doing nothing about it. This has been the most terrible car rental experience I have ever had.

The owner of the car seemed like a great guy and the car itself was perfect. Clean and safe. No complaints there. However when returning the car we got nailed with unexpected traffic in a horrible way. Our expected commute of 30 minutes turned into 2 hours to get the car back. I had contacted the owner of the car before it was due back to let him know we'd be late. He replied through the Turo app that it was no problem at all. It's documented and the Turo folks saw it as well. Still, because I was 20 minutes late, Turo charged me a $75 fee and "suspended" my account? I've been talking to the Turo customer service people and they say despite my communication and telling the owner I'd be late (and him saying it was OK) they have to charge me the fee and suspend me. This was my first time using Turo, and my last.

I explained that we were grandparents coming to Disney World. We drove RV and wanted to car for local driving for beach and Disney World. We had car three days (had to take $44 Uber to pick up car that was actually over hour away). We had 400 mile limit and put half on it. We had to have car back at 8 am which meant leaving condo early...dropped off. Car had no trash but did have beach sand... My surprise that my credit card had been charged extra $75 because "cleaning violation." I'm done. I will use regular rental car. Beware that this charge was not allowed to be contested. But Turo won't talk to you about it. They'll greedily wiggle their fingers and take your money without any warning. It's very sad your power to make these decisions would affect people with impeccable credit and driving history. I'm fully insured and have not had a driving infraction since 1983." Turo response, "I understand how you feel and I know this can be really frustrating. However, all decisions on membership made by the Turo Verification team are final. This company is pathetic. They have requirements and don't even state what the requirements are. They state I don't meet "auto insurance score" requirements, but do not tell me what my score is, what reason I don't meet those requirements, and what their own requirements are. I have never had an accident, never been charged with a DUI, reckless driving and had any insurance claims in 14+ years of driving. Other than speeding tickets (that have never costed me demerit points), my record is clean. I rent cars through other companies on a monthly basis, this is by far one of the most pathetic services I've come by.

Signing up for Turo is easy, just provide your name, email address, phone number, and that's it. They do not collect any other information from you. Seemed easy enough, right? I booked a Tesla S for a few days, for a total cost of about $1,000, and during that process, I had to provide my DL # and some other information, paid for the rental, and hit submit. The owner of the car approved the trip, and I thought I was good to go. That's when the nightmare started...
I woke up the next morning to an email from Turo stating my account had been closed by a boilerplate email. No reason as to why, though it did say that I needed 100/300/100 insurance, along with comprehensive and collision. I own my car outright, and carry minimal coverage... a quick call to my insurance company told me that to carry that coverage would QUADRUPLE my premiums. Not the point though. In addition to saying that, the email also told me that if I wanted to have my account re-evaluated, I could submit: 2 utility bills, a copy of a pay stub (why do you need my salary info?), insurance card, proof of travel (whatever that means).
I called, I emailed, and got nothing. No replies, and no one could tell me why my account was cancelled. I had a client engagement where they were expecting this specific car, so I was completely stuck, and completely screwed over by Turo with no explanation. Not once did they call me to discuss my account and give me a chance to fix whatever was wrong (I have no idea what was wrong), just BAM, cancelled out of nowhere. To top it all off, they still haven't refunded the thousand bucks they took from me, so I'm going to dispute the charges.
I have zero points on my license, great credit, and no criminal background (all things they state they can check if they decide to). They also claim they'll use an insurance score but I have no idea what that is. I'm sure mine is stellar b/c my premiums with decent coverage on a car that's worth about 10k is $266 for SIX MONTHS of coverage. Worst experience ever, horrible company, no customer support. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. They might not screw you the first time, or even the 100th time, but they will eventually screw you, period.
