I felt mislead about the car I rented. The car already had damage to it that wasn't disclosed to me until the host showed up and told me about it. The car had a horrible smell to it the whole time during the rental. The car ran low on oil and I had to suspend my rental 4 to 5 hours because the car needed oil. The host was late dropping the car off he was late picking the car up. I parked the car the night before and it didn't have any issues when the car was picked up the host claimed the tire was flat and the interior was dirty and that I didn't fill the gas tank back to a half. T
he interior wasn't dirty as I had my assistant clean the interior of the car the day we left. I put gas in the car the night prior to the turn in which I have receipts to prove that. The host came out the night prior because of the ”oil situation” and reviewed the interior and exterior of the car and even paid compliments about how good the car looked in and out. Then all of sudden changes his stance when he picks the car up and I am not present. The dispute was reviewed by ”Turo” and they found I need to pay more which I am not happy about especially being that I’ve already paid him almost $700 for the rental. I called Turo support an agent almost hung up in my face until the supervisor took the phone from her. All we were doing was trying to find a reasonable resolution for the issue at hand. That's the sum of my first experience with ”Turo” thanks for the horrible time.

I am a host on Turo with 2 cars and >20 trips for the past few years. It's clear in several ways that Turo only looks to minimize their costs and risk at the expensive of their guests and hosts, particularly the hosts.___ They boast a few different insurance options for damage to the interior and exterior. I don't have experience with this. However, mechanical damage is much less secure.___
If the vehicle is a manual 'stick' transmission and a guest ruins a clutch (this happened), there are two options. All damage has to be declared within 24h of the trip. That means you have to take it to tow it to a mechanic and have them demonstrate that the last driver is at fault for the clutch failure, and then send this to Turo for them to approve the repair. They do *not* pay for the *whole* repair. They prorate their reimbursement based on miles on the clutch divided by 75 thousand miles, an arbitrary life they selected for the clutch. My car was about 35k so they would have paid half, at most, if I was lucky.___
If the clutch is > 5 years old, they don't pay *nothing*. I cannot post the link, however it's at the top when googling 'Turo clutch policy'.___ I fortunately dealt with someone that was responsible and offered to pay for the job on their own. I expect most individuals to be less decent about accepting responsibility for their damages.___ If other mechanical issues arise, there is little way to demonstrate that a guest directly caused the issue. Their insurance policies do not cover your mechanical issues. You will foot the bill.___
Their insurance policies are shady. The host can select any level of coverage, let's say a 'standard' policy, pays a 25% fee, has a $500 deductible and otherwise no out of pocket for interior / exterior collision damage. The guest also selects their level of coverage, (premium, standard, basic, or none). They may select none, which Turo suggests they have their own insurance. They do not need to demonstrate proof that they have valid car insurance, let alone one that covers damages for driving another vehicle. Additionally, the cost is much more expensive when selecting any insurance for the guest. Turo collects takes anywhere from 20-35% from the host and charges up to double to the guest for taking the highest insurance.___
I spoke with several people at Turo about this confusion in how hosts can choose one level and guests choose another, or none. They had no way of explaining the mixed liability of damages. They had no explanation for how they would hold someone responsible for damages in the event of a collision and they don't actually have car insurance, and much less the subsequent burden to the host.___ If you let your guest use your E-Zpass and submit the screenshot of your E-Zpass log as the proof to request reimbursement, they do not accept this. The proof needs to include the license plate, and not the E-Zpass tag which is what's listed on the E-Zpass log. You will get wronged out of toll reimbursements.___
Many other reviews include instances where damages were assessed based on a much lower vehicle value than KBB or other fair pricing, and thus reimbursement was a fraction of what was owed to the owner.___ There are several other reviews where drivers and hosts describe being wronged by Turo and losing significant amounts of money.___ If you are a host, you are taking on significant risk lending your vehicle. They attempt to cover most bases, but there are plenty of ways things go wrong and shirk responsibility and costs. When they know their acting according to their policy, they make no exceptions nor apologies for shifting the costs onto the owner.___

I would like to expose the fraudulent treatment I received by TURO the car sharing company. They have defrauded me out of nearly $600 after the vehicle I rented became disabled through no fault of my own on the 3rd day of my 9 day rental which is approximately $400. I incurred an additional $180 in emergency transportation costs. I lost an entire day of my vacation to get replacement vehicle from a different company which cost about $100 more than my original booking with TURO for a much lesser vehicle. I rented a cool convertible to have my Florida vacation in with my children. Instead we spent a day walking and catching Ubers to find ANY available vehicle in the small town we were in. I have not been refunded the remainder of my trip or reimbursed for any of my additional costs. There is no price they can pay for the lost day or degraded experience of our trip that I as a single mom saved for an entire year to take.
The company claims they are entitled to keep the money as I failed to return the vehicle at my expense to the designated drop off location and that I abandoned the vehicle. The vehicle was disabled in a legal parking spot at my vacation rental and I was physically present when the tow truck that TURO called picked the vehicle up. The vehicle was disabled because the key fob had corroded and burnt out internally and there was no other way to gain entry or start the car. Turo claims that because I turned down the offer of a replacement key I am at fault.
They offered me a key the morning this happened but were unable to get it to me in time to attend the VERY expensive, non-refundable, scheduled event that we were on our way to. I told them we were going to Uber to our event and that I expected reimbursement and that I would deal with the car when we returned that evening. That evening I was never offered a replacement key. I was just told by the TURO representative that they were sending a tow truck.
The next day I was accused of being at fault for the damaged key, I was charged a cleaning fee for a car I couldn't even unlock, I was accused of bending a seat by putting my suitcase in the back seat, AND I was accused of smoking in the car. I don't smoke. TURO voided the insurance I paid extra for because they say I violated the terms by abandoning the vehicle. They seem to have decided in my favor about the key and the seat but they charged my credit card $50 for a cleaning fee that was unfair. We did not even drive the vehicle 150 miles total. They gave me the car with 1/8 of a tank of gas and got it back with 3/4 tank.
I have requested copies of all photos and transcripts of calls and have been completely ignored. TURO's final answer is that I have to pay $200 to go to arbitration!!! I have disputed the charges with my credit card company but that will take some time to resolve and does nothing to reimburse my uber costs. TURO and this particular host are very dishonest, disorganized and painful to work with. My vacation was basically ruined and $600 is a BIG DEAL to me. My poor kids got dragged all around Brevard County FL with their mom in tears trying to get us a car. I will speak out about TURO at every opportunity. Please help me!! Thanks!!

Was my first time using Turo and it was easy, I just downloaded the app and searched for a car in my price range and followed the steps and then picked my car up. I suggest that you first download the app and make sure that your email address has the correct name as I had my son use his email address and I had to have it changed. But yeah if you need a car and don't want the hassle of rental car companies, Turo is the way to go.

Although we were very pleased with our vehicle and the host, we were very displeased with our experience with the Turo staff at the Fine Airport parking facility. When we arrived they said that the car's exterior was dirty and that they'd wash it if we wanted to wait but didn't know how long it would take. We decided to take it as-was.
When I first started the car a message showed on the dashboard indicating that the key fob battery was low. I relayed this information to the Turo representative and he just shrugged his shoulders and didn't give any other response. Since the car started OK we decided not to pursue it, but regretted that later in the trip when we found that the remote lock/unlock would sometimes not function. When we attempted to leave the parking facility the gate would not open. We returned to the Turo area and they said that the car was missing something that would open the gate and that they'd open it manually when we approached. We returned to the gate and waited more than 10 minutes, but nobody opened the gate. We remained at the gate while my son ran back to the Turo area and found someone to finally open the gate.

Unreal. I should add that a friend advised against doing business with them because when he did he was rented a stolen vehicle. First my rental was cancelled because the car supposedly had a flat tire, I had to catch an expensive Uber to get to the replacement. The Uber was supposed to comped, they gave me 20 bucks off the first trip. I paid for the trip home. A pebble hit the rentals windshield during my trip, Initially I was assured I wouldn't pay a dime for the damage, that it'd be covered by insurance... They took a 500 dollar deposit for repairs without notifying me. Not only have I still not received an estimate for the damage there's nobody at Turo I can contact now that I have a claim with the company. Email/Text only. STEER CLEAR OF THESE CROOKS.

I used to advocate for the convenience, flexibility and comfort of using Turo for car rental. I've taken two great trips around CO before a bad experience on my most recent one in CA, which has effectively ended my trust with this company in its ability to equitably serve renters of vehicles on their platform. **What (Also TLDR)**
I was blindsided with a $870 charge to my credit card for minor cosmetic damage to a rented vehicle.
- I had little notification, involvement or visibility throughout the process.- Despite a reasonable and diplomatic dispute regarding the degree of my liability based on their terms of service/definitions provided on their site, Turo did not try to take my position into consideration and even tried to lie and avoid a real discussion over my issue.
- Turo will try and dodge statements and gray areas in their policies, and absolve themselves of responsibility.
- A traditional rental company would've been simpler, cheaper and financially smarter.
**How** My latest trip was on January 15th where I traveled around SF and the coast in the region. Hours after I returned the vehicle I notified by my host of some minor cosmetic scratches on the hood of the car. I had no knowledge of the damage until the host notified me. Nonetheless I apologized and he said he would follow up with Turo damage claims.
Fast forward February 18th, I was blindsided with a $870 charge to my credit card without warning, regarding the aforementioned damage. Why was I not notified, involved or given visibility into the process earlier? After talking with support turns out all 3 of the emails from claims, dated the 4th, 16th and 19th, had all gone to the spam folder*. I was not able to engage in a discussion or dispute of the pending charges, and it looks like I'm not the only one who had this issue (see Allen of NY, Feb. 5th 2020).
Turns out it didn't matter. The content in the first email assumed I was solely liable due to before and after photos, and the following emails basically slapped me with the cost, the bill of work and a warning that I'd be charged in 24 hours. The last email said the claim was resolved after they had charged my card - even though they hadn't actually been in contact me with me at all. The best part is that the claims associate tried to blame me for not reacting earlier and lie by saying, "The Turo app also notifies you of any unpaid balances on your account as well as the several emails sent." This didn't happen: I've had no problems receiving push notifications from the app and did not receive any updates on this process, and the second email said I would be charged within 24 hours (see above) - so there was no unpaid balances to be notified on. There's also not a clear path to this page from the web app.
**Why** Why $870? Not sure. The damage could be described as a loose collection of minor scratches in different directions that are generally not visible (only if you stare hard enough, as I didn't notice even after I took the car to the car wash). Perhaps someone sat on my car while it was parked? Perhaps debris and hail from my drive during a stormy day in Big Sur contributed as well? I wish I could put photos on this site, but I've shown some of my friends and they were shocked by the repair cost figure. One said it was the kind of damage that "as a car owner you wouldn't even bother to get fixed". I took a look at the Wear & Tear section, and found that by Turo's definition the minor scratches were probably beyond the 3 in. diameter rule imposed. However their page also states:
"Guests are responsible for and Turo doesn’t offer coverage for:
- damage related to “misuse” or prohibited uses of the vehicle- serious damage to the inside of the car, including gouges, tears, and punctures
- mechanical damage resulting from guest negligence, intentional acts, or improper driving
Guests are not responsible for:
- wear and tear or mechanical failure from normal vehicle use"
The cosmetic damage on the hood was not related to forbidden uses with the vehicle, was not serious interior damage to the car, nor was it mechanical or functional damage that would hinder or incapacitate the vehicle itself. The fact that none of these apply to my situation suggests the damage in question is fairly negligible. Furthermore, the wear & tear policy starts with the phrase, "Normal “wear and tear” that results from ordinary vehicle use is a part of using or sharing a car."
If we were to forego Turo's formal definition of wear & tear for a moment - the car was returned completely mechanically sound, and also clean/shiny due to my voluntary effort to be a good renter. A traditional rental company would take care of this for you - I paid out of pocket to be nice. Anyone in the market to rent a mid-range sedan would've been happy to drive this car, and could've immediately without issue after I dropped it off. Despite all this the insurance claim bill of work stated it was a collision (later was informed this is because Turo only offers one type of coverage) and the detail of materials / labor sounds like they basically replaced and refinished the hood. I hope it's not hyperbole to think this is overkill.
When I explained my position to the claims associate and asked to be escalated, I received a response saying that the scratches were more than 3 in., and therefore "rather severe". They then reminded me that they weren't a insurance company and that "...any damages that occur to the vehicle during your trip you are fully financially responsible for.", which is not true based on [https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990650-Wear-and-tear] https://support.turo.com/hc/en-us/articles/203990650-Wear-and-tear). They also told me to deal with it, with my personal auto-insurance (I don't own a car, and so I don't have auto-insurance). More dodging, and lying and absolving of responsibility.
I get it, I get it. A platform-provider company needs to make hosts happy while keeping costs low. So why not just offload it onto the end-end-users? And lie and try to convince them that it's wholly justified. I can understand if I had actually gotten into a collision or totaled the car that this would happen. But this is a farce. You'll have an easier time with a traditional rental company, trust me. I no longer will be a user of Turo knowing that I might be robbed every few rides over at best gray area decisions. I'm not the only one this has happened to either.
'*' Turo signs messages from their claims department with their root domain, which was going to spam probably because it's used for marketing emails that are often reported as spam. Meanwhile mail signed by 'mail.turo.com' e.g. reminder for an upcoming trip, when a host messages you, have arrived perfectly to my mailbox. Why Turo would choose an unproven domain to send such important mail - I'm not sure.

I had heard about Turo by watching Doug ** review cars he'd rented with your service. I found myself on vacation in Florida, and in need of a car last minute. The car rental agency near me only had expensive cars left, so I turned to Turo. I was able to rent a Tesla for the same price as the agency would have been (and had a great time!). The process was easy, the renter was outstanding, and the experience great overall. If I had to nitpick the app (as a UX designer), there are a few areas of improvements. 1- The chat doesn't refresh when a new message comes in unless I kill the app. 2- The signup process is a little lengthy. Maybe consider simplifying it, or at least break it into smaller logical steps. -3 The "end rental" part is confusing.

After returning the vehicle to its owner a day early and giving him a positive review I received a request for reimbursement of $316. My 2 day rental ended up costing me nearly $500. Somehow I managed to misunderstand the mileage allotted for my trip, not being daily, but I suppose for the entire days rented. Ultimately I think I would have been better off using a car rental company. $500 for a 2 day rental of a Prius is a bit on the steep side for me. The $.55 a mile (smaller/lighter print) info could have been better presented. Maybe in the same size and bold print would have been more clear. Never did hear back from customer service.

Would have ended up being about $150 cheaper if I had opted out of that, but I guess that's how they make their money. My host exceptional in terms of communication, punctuality, and veracity.

Where do I begin? The owner of the car offered free airport pickup in Maui but it cost me $13 to get it out of parking and the owner just blew me off about a refund for this. The car hesitated the entire week and had clunking noises the entire week especially backing up. The radio was out but the owner provided a Bluetooth device to play from our phone. An engine warning light came on as we approached the airport as we were returning the car. I think I'll rent from a real company next time in Hawaii. This is our second bad experience, at least we did not have to get towed like our Turo car in Kauai. The bright side is that we were able to get where we wanted and we saved $10 for the week when compared to Priceline...not worth the risk by any way shape or form. Turo needs better quality control.

I booked a rental vehicle through Turo from Denver airport. Everything regarding the pick up, customer service, Turo reps/supervisor communication was subpar. I wanted to cancel because I couldn’t locate the car and I was gonna be late for my appointment but that wasn’t going to happen without a charge fee. Two hours to locate the vehicle, I couldn’t add a driver nor I was able to modify the trip drop off time on my own. Now it says the support email was changed and I can’t even send them an email. TURO is WRETCHED. They STOLE car that we rented and I would rate them LESS than 1 STAR but this site will not let me. Full Story: We rented a car through TURO in December, 2019. When we landed at the airport, we contacted the car owner on the phone and let her know that we were at the airport. We followed her directions. Got in the car and drove away. Fast forward several days. My husband and I came out a shopping mall in Scottsdale and the Mustang is GONE. It had cell phone, wallet, work computer and other item in the trunk.
A man approached us in the parking lot and the security guards we were talking to and asked if we were looking for a Mustang. We said yes. He said he had the Mustang, and we were to follow him to the other side of the parking lot. The trunk was open and my phone, wallet and other personal items were in plain sight. They had looked through my wallet. The woman identified herself as the car owner and said that she thought we had "stolen" her Mustang, so she and the two men had "stolen it back." We showed her our reservation on our phone, and she said that they had made a mistake and they were giving us the car back.
We asked how this could have possibly happened. She said that she owned two Mustangs and they were both parked at the airport and we had "taken the wrong one." We said, if that was true, why didn't she just call us (she had our cell phone number and had never tried to contact us) instead of taking the car with my wallet and my phone in it? What was her plan - just leaving us standing in the parking lot in a city where we didn't live, me with no phone and no wallet and no ID? She gave us no explanation that made any sense, and got in her car and drove away with the two men, leaving us standing there with the Mustang. We returned the Mustang to the airport the next day, per our original agreement.
When we got home the beginning of January, we contacted TURO's customer service number to complain. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with two different representatives. The second man said he would have his supervisor contact me, maybe the same day, but if not definitely the next day. The following week, when I received no phone call, I called the same number and got the same customer representative. I clearly told him that I wanted my money back. That was about two weeks ago. I never even received a return phone call, and never got any explanation about what really happened. I finally called my credit card company and disputed the charge, because no one at TURO will return my phone call. I have never been treated so awfully in any rental situation I have ever had. You can't make this stuff up.

My account was flagged for review for some reason which was a joke. I sent them a picture of myself, a picture of myself holding my id, a copy of my credit card, and a copy of current insurance. Even after all of this information they did not immediately unlock my account and allow me to rent vehicles. I have a near perfect credit score, no accidents, work for a large aerospace company, and jumped through all of their hoops. It was a complete waste of my time and I cannot urge you enough to not use their service. Their customer service agent was rude, did not offer any type of real assistance, refused to escalate my case to a manager, and in general it was a bad enough experience to make me write this review. Stay away from this company. Just to clarify this even more, I travel 80% of the time for work so I rent cars 2-3 times per week from major rental agencies. I have never had an experience like this.
I understand the need to verify individuals, but if they provide the correct documentation immediately (I did so via attachments in live chat), they should be able to unlock your account immediately. They also requested that I get a copy of my DMV record for the last 7 years - at my expense (what a joke). Just to be very clear I have zero accidents, zero tickets, zero insurance claims. I own my own home, multiple cars, and I make a fair salary. Totally not necessary in my opinion to flag my account for a review, unless they do this for everyone - which they don't. There is nothing about my situation that should have flagged my account first off, and second I jumped through all the hoops and they still did not allow me to rent a car on their platform.
As a consumer I feel like they wasted my time, got me to send them all sorts of personal information that was not necessary or normal to rent a car, and even after doing all this still did not immediately unlock my account. Poor business practice and consumers should choose another way to rent a vehicle if possible. I was stuck somewhere and this was the only car available in the area - the only reason I was using them in the first place. I am sure the individual who had their car listed would have been fine with me taking their car.

I talk to the car owner, and he told me Turo will handle everything and I don’t need to pay for it. And here is what happened. Turo partners with third-party insurance companies to inflate claims. After all, if you partner with Turo, WHAT INCENTIVE THEY HAVE TO GIVE A FAIR ESTIMATE? And surely, Turo will refuse to allow you to use a third party to verify if the bill is reasonable.
Turo intentionally does not offer full-coverage insurance. SO THEY CAN ALWAYS FIND REASON TO CHARGE YOU AT LEAST $500. Turo WILL TRY TO FORCE THE CLAIM INTO COLLECTION. This may sound crazy, but over the months after my trip, I still kept receiving Turo’s promotional email. But only when I checked my spam mailbox month later did I see all the claim email. And when they send you the claim email, they don’t give you any time to take reasonable actions. If you don’t pay the check, they will send you to collection agencies. They call it “STANDARD PROCEDURE”… See, this is how they treat their customers. Use your own judgment when you rent from them in the future.

As a new host to Turo, however an experienced investor, the Turo platform is very supportive of guests who are destructive of the vehicles. I am slightly appalled by the this and the process and haggle Turo takes its host (owners) through. After recently experiencing damage to our vehicle, Turo asks for US to provide credit card information, I presuming in case it is a false claim. As a property owner, and after using other hosting platforms, I never felt scrutinized about something that I OWN. In addition, after the mechanic assessed the damage, Turo suggested that we continue to allow the renter to use/destruct the vehicle! Why is this an acceptable practice?...Sure several check engine lights are now on, the vehicle now needs repair, and has several paint scratches that weren't there before but yes allow them to continue use of the vehicle and hopefully it will come back in one piece.
In addition after 6 days of usage, Turo refunded the party the ENTIRE payment! Not only are we now out of pocket for the damages, but the guests had our vehicle for an entire week free of charge...never heard of at any other car rental company! Astonishingly, I have read several other posts that testify similar hardships when dealing with Turo.

Turo is seemingly a great service. Once you peel back the layers of the onion though, you find a company that has not put its investments into customer service, renter protection, or a quality product. Story: We arrived at our destination airport after a long flight, bright eyed and ready to begin our adventure from the airport. We had four adults, two young kids. My partner opens the Turo app to contact the Turo rental car owner and there is no reservation showing. None...
We restarts the app thinking it MUST be a mistake... but unfortunately the app still shows no reservation. Please know we had made the reservation weeks prior, and everything was confirmed. Turo had not sent us any notification that the rental was cancelled or there was any issue. So we called Turo, they basically said they can't find any cars for us, but would be able to offer us a big luxury car for another $600 in addition to the amount we paid (which was about $700). Really Turo? Really? We're not Bill Gates here... we are just an average family trying to travel.
Long story short, we rented a car from Expedia as we were told by Turo they would offer us a $60 reimbursement to cover our losses. Here we are, stranded hours in the airport, and they offer $60 bucks... sad company. So we rent the car, then send them the receipt for reimbursement. This was early October. They said it would take 6 weeks to mail out a reimbursement check, yes 6 whole weeks. It's amazing how they took our money and credit card payment in 6 seconds, but sending us money somehow takes 6 weeks right? Here we are, February 1st, 2020, nearly 5 months later, no check, no communication, just terrible customer service promises that never get fulfilled.

When the police found it a couple weeks later, they were arrested for drugs and auto theft. They had done a ton of damage to the truck but Turo denied almost all of the damages accept one small item and they only paid for a portion of that because there was already ‘prior damage’ to the taillight. They sent me a closeup of my taillight before it was stolen to show a small scratch on it and used that to say it was already damaged and to only cover a few bucks of it. I have been fighting this for weeks. They aren’t going to approve the damages. This is infuriating!!! Why bother purchasing insurance!?!? If you care about your vehicle - DO NOT rent it out on Turo. Updated on 02/05/2020: After requesting the claims department review what was being called damage (a simple paint transfer) I have received an update that there is more found by the repair shop that needs to be fixed. I attempted to reach out to the repair facility, of course this information can not be released to me, it's not my car (it is my money). I'm unable to protect myself or validate what they are claiming. I'm just being billed for whatever they decide. We never hit anything! We can't even say those scrapes under the car happened when we had it, the rural area we were visiting didn't have parking stops, most parking was parallel. That is why I was understanding of the hub cap. Although I didn't feel a new hub cap was warranted and then a clear coat applied? I just warn any renter to take many, many, many pictures if you decide to use this company. My suggestion is Do Not Rent from them!
Original: Car rental with Turo, 6 days almost $1500.00! Owner could have got the car detailed to get paint transfers from the undercarriage! NO I Paid to have the bumper removed, sanded, painted and replaced. As the renter I never thought to look under the car to see if a stop bumper may have left paint under the car, well I should have, will not really, because the claim department doesn't take into consideration what the damage really was/is. The vehicle was not physically damaged, no dents or scratches to the paint or body. The owner took it to a shop who wanted $1018.63 to remove, paint and replace. Plus appraisal fees $75.00, Processing fees $75.00, Cleaning fees $51.50, rental $310.00. Oh included it this repair is a new hub cap. Got a paint transfer from a curb. Returned vehicle on 12/17 5:00 am. 12/19/19 received notice of a $500.00 retainer fee being processed against my credit card until case is decided.
01/06/20 was informed I owe another 668.63 which they took directly out of my credit card. I tried to explain it was a paint transfer since I own and operate an auto repair shop on Maui, they didn't care to entertain the idea. I would have been more than happy to pay for the repair if they had just tried to clean the vehicle first. I was taken for a ride. I fear to encourage anyone to rent from TURO since you won't know what kind of owner you are dealing with until it's too late. Claims doesn't support the renter so get all the insurance offered and then some if you choose to rent from them. BTW the car had a chipped windshield and a rear hub cap with a paint transfer on it. I'm sure that was being processed, but it shouldn't have been rented with the chip in the windshield.

Do not rent your car through Turo. Or you will be responsible for every damage that renters do to it. Just facts:
1. A guest returned the car with an engine light on. Claimed it happened after the car wash. I took the car to the shop few days later (the first available time) - apparently the guest list a gas cup (all guests always bring the car back with the full tank so we never even thought to check that). The guest admits in the messages that the engine light when on during his trip. I have a check for the repair. Turo investigates it for 10 freaking days and then send me a quote from their claim policy - you have to claim the damage within 24 hours. I mean I get the idea, but do you have robots there or humans who can analyze the situation?
2. This one even funnier. Apparently Turo does some kind of insurance frauds. Another guest scratched the bumper (Mercedes 2016), in to places, one scratch is about 10 in long and kinda deep. Turo appraises the damages and sends me $93! 93 dollars to fix the damage on Mercedes bumper! Are we in 1980 or something??? But here is the best part: Turo charges that guest $3,000!!!! The guests freaks out and send me screen shots, requesting why I'm charging him $3k. And I don't know why, because all I receive is $93. Now you tell me if this is a scam or not scam?
Please stay away from this company.

Easy to use the app and get the car. Polite and helpful host that I never met. Flaw was the car's condition. It made a clunking sound when first taking off from a stand still. The tires were worn. Slight smell of old smoke. I just don't think any of that is acceptable for a rental car. Leads me to believe there isn't a systematic way for Turo to check the condition and maintenance of the cars and thus I really can't recommend using it and I'll go back to normal rental services. The insurance portion of this service is a little concerning. I realize now that my credit card's coverage from a normal rental service would actually be a better deal for a better car. Just isn't a value here unless I go for limited coverage. Also, what happens if I get a flat or get in an accident? It isn't clear to me how to use the insurance. It's a cool concept but seems like a slapdash operation that's completely unregulated.

I like the idea of this app and I think it's a great workaround to renting a car instead of having to go through something like Hertz. My only complaint is that for my first experience, although the host was very accommodating, I had received the car at half a tank full of gas. It wasn't a major deal breaker, but it sucked knowing I had to return the car at a full tank of gas even though I received it at half.

The car was great, although there was considerable cosmetic damage not outlined in the Turo description by the owner. However, the worst part was the exchange - I would rank this 0 out of 5 stars. The owner was late to meet me, which forced me to wait at the airport for two hours. Dropping-off was a hassle too... I will not chose an airport pick-up ever again so long as Turo does not have a designated area for this. I called Turo support and got no help. The car owner was awful, and was the result of great stress for renting a car. I would take careful consideration before renting through Turo again.

Right away.... 8 hours later they tell me that they can't accept my documents because they are scanned... they need photos.... so I re sent them everything as a photo. To make a long story short.... it's 6 days now and nothing is resolved, and every-time I ask if there is any update, I get request for my document all over again!! We had heard good things about Turo. Unfortunately our experience was terrible. After returning the car, the owner claimed we had mildly scratched the car in four places. We disagreed. Turo only sided with the owner and we were charged with thousands of dollars for repair - basically to get the car detailed for the owner. Apparently the fine print reads that the owner has 24 hours within the drop off time to report any scratches. Because the drop-off point was a public street, the owner (or any other bystander) could have scratched the car after the drop off... and with no question we would be stuck with the charges. As far as we know, this is what happened. Turo was not helpful at all, and would not discuss the issue with us. Instead, they tried to charge our credit card right away before the case was settled. We will NEVER be using Turo again. This was the most expensive car rental experience of our lives.

They have high untraditional hidden fees for a car rental business. I gave them my estimated time of pick up and drop off as I always do with car rental companies. They texted me last minute while in NYC with the rental and told me I to get the car back or "there may be late fees" then told me the next day owe $44.52 extra for an old minivan with a 150K miles on it. Had the Van from 9:30 a.m. to 7:40 p.m. Local car rental agency would have given me 24 hours for far less. I only had the Van from 9:30 a.m. to 7:40 p.m. period my local and fries would give me 24 hours for a brand new Durango for less money. After complaining to the BBB they admitted to the mistake and lowered it to $20. I asked if they could waive that as a first-time customer and they sent me to collections after the BBB complaint was closed. They now want $74.55 or they will hurt my credit.

After that, Turo sent me a power attorney to the wrong address ( I have the emails between me and the agent) and it took another extra week to sent the power attorney to my home.
Later on, Turo sent the amount of debt via paper check, and bank never received it. TURO sent it to the wrong address again. After one month of wait in case bank received the check, Turo sent a second check. In this case, bank received it and process. During those two months, bank continued charge me 3 dollars per day as interest for the car loan. Because Turo negligence, the original amount was different than the final amount however Turo just sent the original amount and a debt of 160 dollars was originated. Turo refused to pay the difference even with proof of his negligence. I ended this story paying those 160 dollars. By the way, I paid for a replacement vehicle plan during "repairs" however, Turo just paid 30 per day for 10 days, I have to cover the extra 1 month and half with my money. As hosts, Turo takes complete advantage of the car owners. They will never side with the car owner. Requesting reimbursement is a miserable process. If the customer disputes reimbursement, you are screwed. They allow them to get away with unpaid tolls by making the process unbearable to complete. If you request reimbursement for cleaning, Turo will pretend to not see any dirt in the pictures and rule it as "light dirt" that can easily be cleaned. The car can be covered in mud and bugs and they pretend that it's not dirty. Sadly this is not an exaggeration.
Hoping to bring awareness to all social networks so that people interested in hosting their vehicles don't get exploited. Customer service for hosts is non-existent. Not kidding, go ahead and call the only number they have and request host services and they refer you to online chat that replies with generic short sentences every 5-8 minutes (about 45 minutes for a simple question). It should be illegal for companies to operate like this. No way to escalate matters or speak to a manager. The names of the representatives are fake and no way to verify.

As a first time user and AFTER I went thru the entire booking search & information input online, I was declined. It was very time consuming to find a customer service phone number and once I spoke with someone they stated I had to go thru a "Verification Process", that it was often part of a first time user occurrence. They stated that I was not able to speak to someone by phone (Flag), that it could only be handled via online chat (Flag). Accessing the chat link was not straight forward and the format was severely time consuming and not user friendly as I was disconnected twice after already providing my information and narratives for at least 15 min per chat Rep. They requested photos of my driver's license and credit card which I had already provided online.
They claimed that I was denied booking due to "Flags" on my information; however, they would not define what those supposed "Flags" were (that was a serious Flag for me). When I requested their rationale and justification for their need to have photos of my personal documents, I suddenly "lost the connection". During the 2nd Chat attempt I provided all of my acct info again, and also asked the Rep to confirm if the company was registered with the U.S. BBB, to which I again "lost connection". The 3RD Chat attempt, I immediately opened with requesting verification that TURO was registered with the BBB and was completely ignored and probed for my information instead. ANY company that operates under a veil, entirely online, especially in matters of customer support and service, with ZERO transparency to their customers, should be met with extreme caution and skepticism. I rented a 2007 Toyota Yaris from Fahad in Tempe, Az. It was ok in Tempe. But once I got to Flagstaff I realized the defroster was not working. The whole vent switch was not working, and driving in the car was like driving in a cloud (It was Dec 2019 - they had gotten a lot of snow. I had a 9 year old in the car. The roads were icy… The car was simply unsafe to drive as it was). I texted Fahad about this, to which he said that he had had problems like this with another vehicle, and that it was easily repaired, and he sent a link to a YouTube video explaining how to remove the inside paneling of the car to fix said problem. I removed the paneling - I could see where the panel clips were removed, and where a wire was used to try and "fix" the electronics. I called him and said "Yeah, it looks like someone’s already been in here", and he said "oh yeah, that was me" - so by another car having this issue he meant THIS car having this issue!
He walked me through the process of trying to rig the car as he had rigged it with the wire before, but it did not work. At this point, 5 hours after being marooned I was done. I called Turo and they essentially said that if the car was rolling they were not responsible for helping it get back to the owner or helping in anyway transfer it out (I had to drive it back or I’d be charged with the towing fee). I ended up having to rent another car (tip-top shape from a major car rental) and leave Fahad’s car in their parking lot to continue my trip, and then drive Fahad’s car back down to Tempe. Never again! One of the worst transactions ever. I felt like I was dealing with scammers – I feel like both Turo and the owner of the vehicle were con artists.

I rented a car from Turo now over two months ago. I rented the car for several days and after being at the location I realized I didn’t need to car as long as I had planned. I contacted the host and he agreed to pick up the car early for additional charges. I agreed and everything went as planned. Tonight I received a notification that my American Express had been charged $48 from Turo. I contacted American Express because it was over two months ago that I had rented a car from that company and they are now disputing the charge. However they recommended that I reach out to Turo.
I looked for a way to contact Turo and they have a text response in which I used to discuss my concerns. Turo acknowledged the charges and said that the host had submitted payment for a parking ticket that were received supposedly when I rented the car. Turo however does not have any proof that this is a valid bill and so without any proof Turo has chosen to withdraw $48 from my account.
First off while renting the car I didn’t receive any parking tickets. Secondly it’s been over two months in which Turo said they give the host up to 90 days to submit bills. Again had they received proof of this I can understand. However no proof was given to Turo from their host and they withdrew $48 out of my account unannounced. If I had not received the alert from my credit card company I might have not known they withdrew the money. This seems like a scam. They now are requesting that the host provide proof within 24 hours or they were removed the charge. However if I had not contacted them they would have just taken the money out of my account without notification. I would recommend renting from other trusted companies after experiencing this type of fraudulent activity months after renting from their service.

I've had to pay 51$ cleaning fee when I brought back the car way cleaner than when he gave it to me. I rented 2 cars that was filthy dirty. I cleaned both of them and they want to charge me 51.00 and 41.00. It's B's all because I had ** in my pocket. Now it says no smoking. It doesn't say you can't have ** on your personal belongings. I shouldn't have to pay **. They should be paying me for cleaning their nasty filthy cars. Not sure if I'll use this Turo again.

I rented a car via Turo. Everything went as expected and I had a great trip. However, three days after the trip I noticed $820 was missing from my bank account. I saw that the charge was from Turo. I have since reached out to Turo and received no response. I was not emailed, messaged, or called by Turo in regards to this $820 charge. It has been one week since I first reached out to figure out what was going on, and I have still not heard back.

This is just one of many other “bad customer service” reviews that Turo already has (I was not aware they had so many prior to writing this). They seem to be unwilling to help you out in certain scenarios and they can be outright disrespectful in others. I’m not gonna go into details as to what happened to me, but I gave every chance for Turo to make up for a sneaky host that I unfortunately chose a car from, and they were just as bad as the host, so I urge you to stay clear of Turo for your own sake.

We've used Turo 3 times now, and each experience has been worse than the last. We have been planning a Christmas trip to Banff, Canada for months now and knew we would have to organize a car early on as it is a busy time of year during the holidays and there would be limited options closer to Christmas. So we booked a car with Turo a few months out to ensure we had something. It is now December 23rd, and we just received word from Turo that our booking (for tomorrow, the 24th) has been cancelled, leaving us stranded when we arrive at the airport with no way to get to our accommodation in Banff (2 hours drive from the airport).
We understood that sometimes things like these happen, so we tried our luck finding another car on Turo as quickly as possible using the refunded money and $25 credit they gave us. Luckily enough we found a car that was slightly more expensive, so we'd just pay the difference. We got to the checkout, with everything looking like it was going to work, when all of a sudden the price changed and we were told we had to pay the full amount; our refund (and $25 credit) had magically disappeared. We called their customer service team who after about an hour of trying to explain to them what happened, told us we would have to pay the full amount, as our refund wouldn't arrive for another 3 days. The customer service was not only unhelpful, but extremely rude about the entire situation as well. We would not recommend Turo based on our experience with them.

Using Turo was much easier and cheaper than using a traditional car rental service. First of all, it was easy to pickup and return the car. When I got to DFW airport, I took the shuttle to the Rental Car Center and the Turo driver was waiting for me there with the keys. As a matter of fact, I got a message from the driver right after my plane landed. So they were promptly ready to issue me the car.
Return was easy as well. I returned the car to an easy-to-get-to Holiday Inn where the Turo driver then drove me to the airport to catch my flight. I like the fact that there are no hidden or additional fees like car rental agencies like to add on. I like the fact that you get to choose your car ahead of time. The Turo website/app is easy to use with plenty of filters to narrow down the selection. Overall, I will always use Turo to rent cars.

Turo takes 30% of your pay if you select standard insurance, which only covers damages 3 inches or larger as I found out. Turo takes 40% of your pay for premium insurance, which covers a lot. Turo also charges you a fee if you file a claim that does not meet their coverage requirements, which they consider fraudulent claims. My car got damage in a $81 600 mile trip and Turo didn't pay to fix it. Estimated cost was $500. It cost me $80 for synthetic oil change and more for other maintenance. I had 3 trips that made me $398, 3 trips and about 2100 miles. Just one damage that Turo refuses to cover wiped it all out. So, I basically paid someone to drive my car.
Even if there's no damage, $398 for 2100 miles is like $.19 cents per mile and risking damage to your car that Turo will not pay for if under 3 inches. I don't know if you know but 3 inches is HUGE, it could render your vehicle useless. If I had chosen the premium insurance, my income would had been $341 for 2100 miles. And that $81 trip for 4 days would had been $69.

Turo is a very easy app to use. You swipe through cars, find one you like at a better price than any other rental company.... Only you DONT see what else they charge you until checkout.
•if you get a luxury car/sport car you get a fee for that
•fee to have the car dropped off to you
And a few other fees that are understandable like insurance etc but my 45/day car rental for 4 days turned out to be over $300 and last I checked 45X4=180.... Now on to the car I rented. I land in LA, get my uber ($50) to drive an hour away from LAX to pick up an Audi tt (amazing car for the weekend) except when I get to it it looks like the last renter drove it through the sahara desert. I mean this thing was covered in dust and the seat had trim falling off of it etc. Car was filthy in a nutshell (but at this point I have already signed before I even left Nebraska that I would return the car clean or I get another fee) so I now have to clean this car out. Overall It's a great way to get a better car than your basic airport car rental place but you are going to have some bumps along the way.
