We traveled to West Palm Beach and had a great experience renting and driving Tommy’s Corolla! No complaints with the car. Tommy was great, good communication and went above and beyond when the trip was over. We actually left our own car keys in his car and he overnighted them to us after we were home!

I was really concerned when my rental canceled on me. I had rented a truck so I could carry my son's wheelchair. Trucks can be very expensive but I found a reasonable one AND THEN THEY CANCELED. Turo stepped in and really helped me out by helping me get another rental and defraying most of the added cost. I was impressed and so happy to continue using Turo. Also I've rented from the same guy twice. Jose is great - a real asset to Turo!

I will be writing a formal complaint on Google when time permits. Context, 6PM picked up car, 7PM parked in paid parking lot with high visibility in Vancouver, 8PM returned to a car that was broken into, review is regarding customer service experience that dealt with such situation. In essence, I can understand I require to pay for the window that someone decided to break when stealing my property from the car, as I am liable for the car, and that the cost of the window was less than the $500 deductible. What I don't understand is how Turo did not acknowledge their breaking of their agreement.
I rented a car for 6 days, and in the first 2 hours, the car was broken into. Leaving me without a car as I was required to return it. There was no replacement. There was no attempt to get me another vehicle so that I could continue my vacation. I lost a full day waiting for a response (they also close their phone lines after 10 PM in BC) and called many times to ask for a car, and yet received no help. I was charged approximately $170 for that one day, when my entire 6 days was to cost approx $450. Again I had the car for less than 2 hr when it was broken in, and the car was returned within 5 hr, after filing the police report, to the original owners.
At the end of it all, I rented from Enterprise. With a $0 deductible, which is not offered with Turo. What is disappointing is now I had to pay approx $350 for the window, and $170 for one day, when I had the car in my possession for less than 5 hrs, where Turo did nada/nothing for me to make it right. Absolutely horrendous customer service and I would highly recommend people to save your money and time and go to a more reputable company like Enterprise. Thanks.

One thing I love about Turo is they are for the people. I am a power host with turo with multiple cars and have used them as a guest and have told many people about turo. It was such a pleasant experience both ways and I look forward for the future of Turo's rental fleet.

This was my 4th or 5th time using Turo, the cars have all been very reliable and clean. The process is much simpler and more affordable than traditional car rentals. The fact that I can just land in a city and not have to worry about what kind of car I'm gonna get, very relaxing.

The rental process is so easy with Turo and excellent value! It would not have been easy to rent a Tesla with a standard car rental agency. Drop off and pick up at the airport parking is so time saving.

Rented a great VW GLI for a week. Was a very enjoyable and trouble-free ride over nearly 600 miles. I use Turo because I want to select my car; not get stuck with whatever leftover is on the lot, or "upgraded" to an poorly-handling thirsty SUV by one of the big rental chains.

This host has some disclosure and consent issues that must be addressed IMO. These are the kinds of experiences are a REAL turnoff and are confidence-fatal if they are allowed to persist on the platform.
1. Upon confirmation of the booking, we were notified that the vehicle would be left in the airport long-term parking lot and we would be responsible for the fee ($20) to pick it up. This was not in the original listing -- only that the pickup would be at the airport. Often there is a pickup fee, or we must travel to the vehicle location, but these requirements are usually are in the listing, and NOT disclosed later. Unacceptable, and the fee ended up being $30, BTW. See photo "pickupfee".
2. The booking says that it is our job before returning to wash and vacuum the vehicle. But what is NOT disclosed is that on the western Big Island in Hawaii, there are only TWO car wash places with vacuums and they close at 5PM. We were staying on the eastern side of the Island, and once we figured out how awful our car wash options were, we had to cancel our vacation plans for the day and drive the two hours over in time to WASH THE DAMN CAR. This was literally all we could do in the time frame available, and then get our evening flight. See photo "wash".
We had no cleaning supplies of any kind of course, and we eventually get a harassing email that we didn't do a good enough job because we could not wipe off the mud (it rains a lot on the eastern side) and even though we tried really hard we had no way to clean more and there were no hoses or anything to spray the mats. Photo "postemail".
3. You cannot allow hosts to drop bombs like this that are not disclosed FULLY in the listing before committing to the rental and being charged. People are charged and then extorted for payments and services not disclosed all for the convenience of the HOST. This was a great way to finish off what would have otherwise been an excellent trip. I bet if you contact this host's previous customers you'll get an earful.
4. I want you to know that we have had some minor disclosure issues like this before with Turo and we deliberately booked a Hertz rental in Hawaii just in case of sudden cancellation or other issues. We SO MUCH wished we had just picked up the Hertz car -- it was the same price as the Turo listing and Hertz (especially as Gold Plus members) would have treated us like prized customers and said nothing if the car was covered in sand and dirt, rather than treating us like we were doing TURO a favor just having the vehicle, and making us run around making the host happy. Photo "Hertz".

I rented a Tesla and prepaid $25 for the host to charge the car after I return it. During my time with the car, the host messaged me that if I return the car with over 50% battery, he would only charge me $10. Based on that message, I returned the car with over 60% charge. Thus, with that message, the host saved himself having to charge an empty battery up to full, plus he kept the $25 that he would have used to charge the battery. Turo was ok with this type of shady behavior by a host.

My original booking was cancelled less than 18 hours before my flight. It's pretty stupid and unfair I cannot leave a NEGATIVE review for the host that did that. Others should be allowed to know the details of why a host cancelled a trip with no warning so close to the date. This host in particular stated "the car needs maintenance". Excuse me, you had 2 ** weeks to figure that out, why are you waiting til my flight to decide to cancel my trip? Luckily the next host was extremely helpful and flexible and priced better for the same level of vehicle. But we as users of the service should be allowed to provide accurate feedback when the situation arises. If this continues to happen I won't be using Turo anymore.

I finally reached the right person and the issue was resolved. I will now use Turo again because the only complaint got fixed. The car was great, the picking up and delivery was easy and was cheaper than the rental companies. No standing in line to rent a car.
Original Review: Jan. 25, 2022
Somehow, either computer or human error, the start time was written as 3 Am instead of 3Pm. The host caught the mistake beforehand so we had no problem with getting on car at the right time. Turo then charged $81 for changing the times (took away the early registration payment). Still used the car - 12 hours less time, picked it up on the same day and had no problem with the host. Turo is the problem. I chatted with 4 different Turo employees. If I got paid for everyone of their typos during the chat, I would have over $1,000 in my pocket. I won't use the company again because they don't have any integrity. I don't trust them. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!

I rented a few cars multiple days with Turo. I was surprised as amount it's listed to rent times double Turo fee plus insurance and taxes you paying well over triple expected price. It states you save 35% than from regular rental co. False. After return of last trip my card has been charged multiple charges over 200 dollars now that are for "incidentals" on top of their extremely high pricing. No explanation. I've contacted Customer Service with no help but they pass it on. To no avail. So they can scam you after rental by tacking on very high priced reasons but with no reason. When you enquire about issue they do not get back with you. This Co is scamming consumers as well as some that are renting cars, not all as I did have good experience with first one. You do not know who renting to you. Beware go to reg car rental places. This is a big scam.

Pick-up was a breeze, I just texted the owner when I arrived and he remotely unlocked it for me! I was able to get a full-size truck for less than the cost of a sub-compact at a commercial rental agency right now. We had never used Turo before. We took an Uber from our hotel in Anchorage to meet Kyle ** who was supposed to have a 2016 Ford Taurus ready for us for $1100 for 7 days. Cars were hard to come by and people were charging premium prices. We were to meet at 10:00 a.m. By 10:20 we were worried and had no idea what to do. None of the rental companies had any cars. We called Turo and they could not reach the owner. Turo could not help us and said there were no other cars available. Turo said he gets fined about $25. Thankfully, my daughter was able to find a car on her own. Meantime, Kyle called and said he had overslept! He apologized but we told him we found another car. We asked if he would reimburse us for the two Uber trips we had to make back and forth to our hotel and he refused to respond and did not reimburse us ($50). Be careful with this guy and maybe have a backup with this company.

I rented a vehicle from them, on my trip I turned on the windshield defrost and it caused a crack on the Windshield, I immediately reported the issue and their claims department said they would open an investigation to see if they will cover it. They later went on and took $500 from my account without my authorization and when I called to dispute the agents claimed that I told them a rock had hit the windshield. They have refused to issue a refund even after I submitted more pictures as evidence that there was no external impact. The agents rudely emailed back asking what the pictures are for that the claim has been concluded. This is after I had paid $129 for protected and low deductible in case of an accident. They charged me over $600 for coverage. The owner was good but the company is a fraud. It is not worth it I promise and very rude agents who twist your statement to rip you off. They have lost me as their customer, I wouldn't recommend.

Booked car that was available on company website for my dates. Reservation was canceled by the host, and I tried to rebook. Went through this process 3x and wasted about a week of time. At that point I couldn’t wait any longer for a car and wanted to go through a different service, but Turo refused to return the money even after they cancelled and said they were “holding it for 24hrs to allow me to rebook”. They said their cars are not guaranteed, so there’s nothing they can do to help. At the same time, they continued holding my money and advertising all these cars as though they’re available. With the rising costs of car rentals from corporations like Enterprise, the cost to rent a luxury car on Turo was comparative to the the price of a standard car through a big chain rental corporation. I went ahead and pulled the trigger and rented a car for my trip to Houston - a flashy little Mercedes. Booking was easy. Couple taps of my finger and the car was mine. Communication between the car owner and myself also super easy and fast. Not once was I left without a response, waiting for answers or felt like I was alone in this process. I have the best insurance package that Turo offered and was told that Liberty Mutual would be handling my claim. I received a phone today from my personal insurance company stating they are handling my claim and that was NEVER supposed to have happened. I contacted Liberty Mutual to find out if they had any information regarding my claim and they stated they have no record of a claim or accident on said date. You see a nice car for rent for around the same cost as your local car rental agency. You think to yourself 'wow, this is great! I can pay the same amount and deal with a private individual and not have to wait in line for two hours only to be given a completely different car than what I paid for'. Don't fall for it. Your 30 dollar car just doubled in price with a 'trip fee' for actually driving the car. Now you have to pay twelve percent sales tax and Turo fees. Not to mention over mileage fees if you drive more than 300 miles. If you're unfortunate enough to be under 21 and have a perfect driving record, you'll be hit with a 50 dollar young driver fee while older drivers with DUIs and scores of tickets pay nothing. Just go to your local car rental agency. You'll save yourself scams and headaches and even save a fortune - the one thing you went to this useless excuse of an online rental agency for in the first place.

First, please note that it is very hard to leave negative feedback for the general public to read. One needs to consult “ConsumerAffairs”, “Trustpilot” or know about the “Google listing” for TURO Inc. in San Francisco (111 Sutter Str # 1300), CA, USA. The TURO website only lists positive reviews and masks all other comments. You will always end up with the short end of the stick regardless if you are a guest (renting customer) or a host (car rental supplier). I have experience with both.
As long as there is nothing to declare, the system works fine BUT if there is a dispute, their customer service always patronize with the other side. So, if you are a paying guest, they will favor the host. If you are a host, then they will favor the renting party. Just be aware they always look into extracting the money where it is the easiest to get and they will cite company policies you have never heard about. I can only advise to look somewhere else and to disregard the press articles that depict a rosy picture as long as the sun shines. When the clouds come in…YOU WILL BE THE LOSING PARTY.

A big thanks to the host for his great hospitality for having a clean and nice vehicle, everything went smoothly, I love the car, I wish I can afford to buy one, one day, but I don't make much money, if Turo can buy me a car I would be overwhelmed, again thanks very much for excellent service.

I rented Elliot L's Chrysler town and country mini van on August 24th 2021 with TURO. On December 19, 2021 he messaged me he had to cancel. This is less than 2 weeks before our trip to Hawaii where rental cars are very hard to get. Especially on the island of Kauai. His reason was "I need to raise the price." He was also combative over a Turo messaging app and very rude. This is not his first cancellation. In fact it's 3 in the last 4 months. TURO also communicated with me and asked if we could rebook for the higher price. Really??? Once an agreement is made it should be honored. I would not recommend Elliot L or Turo to anyone. My first rental with Turo was great, with a smooth rental and great communication (host was "Vadim"). I rented again and it was terrible, and the car owner ("Jackson") and Turo switched cars, lied and stopped communicating after I was promised a partial refund (which I never received) for the switched car and terrible experience.
I reserved a Lexus SUV and Jackson asked me to switch to an Audi, which was fine. What they delivered later was a dirty Toyota SUV that smelled, wasn't filled with gas and which had the check engine/"maintenance required" lights on the whole time. Jackson apologized at first and promised a significant partial refund, which I accepted. Then Turo delayed, but said the refund was in process. Then they denied the refund, said I had no proof of the issues (wrong--it was all documented in messages and photos) and stopped responding, as did Jackson. DO NOT RENT FROM JACKSON OR TURO. Too bad, the first time was great and I hoped to make use of the service again, but won't now.

On the morning of Wednesday, November 17th, at 8:20 am, I arrived at an address in Seattle to pick up a 2009 Chevrolet Express passenger/cargo van from a Turo verified host offering the vehicle for rent. I found the host vacuuming out the van prior to my taking possession and he pointed out at the time that the driver's side seat belt appeared not to be working (the red latch cover that operated the lock/release mechanism was loose but still present on the driver's side) but, if the tongue of the buckle were pushed in to a certain point, it would effectively latch. With this understanding, I took possession of the vehicle, allowed the host to photograph my driver's license and insurance cards, agreed to return the van with a full tank of fuel, and then began my trip. I was also notified that there was a 200 mile trip limit on his van and that any mileage over that would result in a .$40 cent per mile fee. I told the host that I understood that condition.
During several points on the way, I found that the red latch cover was not securely in place on the driver's side seat belt, and noticed that a small lever on the left side of the mechanism would allow me to release the tongue and buckle. I was able to use this feature to successfully undo the seatbelt but, on arriving at the Humptulips Grocery, a distance of 131 miles from my starting point, the latch would not secure at all, and the mechanism (ie, the lever which operated the locking feature of the tongue and buckle assembly) disappeared into the latch entirely, rendering the seatbelt inoperable. I was able to lodge the tongue of the seatbelt in the mechanism in such a way that the belt stayed in place and created an external appearance of a working seat belt. However, sudden body movements (turning, etc) immediately dislodged the belt and nothing I could do would make the mechanism operable.
I drove to my final destination (the Graves Creek campground in the Quinalt), remained there from 12:15 pm to 3:30 pm to perform a character role in a short film, and then left on my return journey to Seattle. The seat belt was still non-functional in direct violation of **, the section of the Revised Code of Washington that relates specifically to seatbelts, as noted below:
(1) It is a traffic infraction for any person to drive or move, or for a vehicle owner to cause or knowingly permit to be driven or moved, on any highway any vehicle or combination of vehicles that:(a) Is in such unsafe condition as to endanger any person;
(b) Is not at all times equipped with such lamps and other equipment in proper working condition and adjustment as required by this chapter or by rules issued by the Washington state patrol;
(c) Contains any parts in violation of this chapter or rules issued by the Washington state patrol.
This was a total distance of 167 miles and, when combined with the 36 miles from Humptulips to my final destination in the Quinalt, resulted in a grand total of 197 miles driven in a vehicle in direct violation of applicable state and federal law relating to motor vehicle safety. At the Starbucks in Elma, WA I began a customer service chat with Hector of Turo customer support and explained my situation to him after asking him for further information, and Hector offered to contact the host regarding a full refund of the rental costs ($131.78).
On arrival in Seattle, I stopped at an AM/PM in Seattle to refuel. I then made a three-minute video for evidentiary purposes (shared with the director of the film I acted in and on whose behalf I rented the van, and with Turo support) which documented the condition of the seat belt at the time as well as its condition when I received the van.
On finishing refueling, I returned the van to the host and explained to him how I had spent the day with his van and the failure of his front seat belt. The host was apologetic but refused to consider a full refund. He instead showed me on his phone the dashboard of his Turo account, which displayed the total amount he stood to earn from the rental of the van, some $71.00. He did this to show that Turo was taking nearly half of the rental fee off the bat and that, if he were to issue a full refund as I asked (after I reminded him of his legal responsibility to maintain a car in correct working order with functioning safety equipment), then he would have to charge me the mileage fee (I'd driven roughly 140 miles over the 200 mile limit, resulting in a potential charge of $52).
He pointed out that the renter before me had mentioned that the driver's side seatbelt was "a little sticky" but had made no further complaints, and that this vehicle had been rented 95 times before with no problems, and he had not had such issues with the other nine cars in his Turo account. He further attempted to shift responsibility to me, saying that I had chosen to continue driving the van with a non-functional seatbelt. While technically true, I reminded the host that I had no choice in the matter, as the seatbelt failed as my initial trip to the Quinalt filming location was nearly complete, and the van was my only transportation back to Seattle and to my personal car, parked at the host's home for the duration of the day.
The host instead offered to waive the mileage fee and, on consideration, I accepted this offer as being the most effective resolution at the time. I was told by the host that he had an appointment with his mechanic the next day to have the seat belt seen to, so I took him at his word and there were no further discussions of the issue. I received subsequent e-mails from both Hector and Manuel of Turo support, promising stricter vetting of prospective rentals prior to letting them go out, and informing me that my initial request for a full refund had been denied. Turo's Terms and Conditions put equal responsibility for vehicle safety checks on both the host and the guest, it was explained to me and, as I had driven the car for over 200 miles with a non-working seat belt, I assumed some liability for the safety issues even though I was told at the outset that the seat belt would work.
The director of the film and I made several calls and chats to Turo customer support (nearly impossible to reach and speak to a live human being, as it turns out) but I was able to connect with someone in the cancellation department who referred my complaint to their executive management team, who (finally) agreed to refund the full rental cost.
Although Turo is meant to be a low-cost alternative to services such as Enterprise, Budget Rent-a-Car, Hertz, or other agencies, the higher cost of using any of those services supports their maintenance staff, who will be held responsible if a car goes out in an unsafe condition. Turo's shifting of this responsibility onto both hosts and guests is another way of privatizing profit and socializing losses and liability. I will never be using this service again.

When I picked up the car, it was parked so close to the vehicles next to it, I could barely open the door to get in the car or put anything in back seat. The trunk of the car was really dirty. There was dirt in other parts of the car to the point I hate even touching the steering wheel to drive it. The steering wheel was sticky and the car smell like it was owned by a smoker. The cupholder and other areas had cob webs in them as well so I definitely dreaded buying food and storing it in the car. The windshield was cracked and there was tape on the brake light. The car ran fine the first 2 days of my three day rental.
The morning of the third day, I went outside to get in the car, but the key fob wouldn't open the car. I tried for several minutes and finally got the car opened using the lock since the key fob never worked. I proceeded to start the car with the key and it wouldn't even click. I tried everything to start the car and it never started. I then called the host but he didn't answer. He did respond quickly via chat so that is how I ended up communicating with him. He asked me what was the issue and I explained what was going on. He advised he could give me a jump but he would be available to for another 90 mins because he was in class. I then called Turo for road assistance but while I was on the phone with them, the host let me know that Turo would charge me for the road service call even though it was his vehicle that was broken down.
When my host got out of class 90 mins later he said he would come jump the vehicle but he was 50 mins away. In the meantime, I called Turo back trying to get resolution because at this point, I've been broken for a few hours and I had somewhere I needed to be. I explained I didn't feel comfortable keeping the same car because I was concerned it would die again and I'd be broken down late at night. Had the host offered to replace the battery, I probably would have kept the vehicle since I was 25-35 mins away from the places I needed to go in Texas. Eventually, I was given the option to cancel the trip and told I could request a full refund with the approval of my host. I have a pending refund for the 'partial' day I didn't use even though I never got a chance to use the car the entire 3rd day of the rental.
No replacement car could be found and by the time I got off the phone with Turo, all nearby rental places were closed. I had to Uber the rest of my trip. I spent more money Ubering to and from my destinations (including the airport) than what they refunded me. This was my first time using Turo and as you can see it wasn't a great experience. The host didn't seem too remorseful either. Did I mention I was visiting the area for a bowling tournament and now that I didn't have transportation, I basically I had to take my bowling balls with me wherever I go so I wouldn't have so much back and forth. This was a horrible experience. There's no phone number to talk to anyone so I spent an hour or more chatting my issues. I sent an email saying I was not satisfied with their solution and no one has replied to me yet.

11/20/2021 - We have friends that use Turo when traveling. We decided to try it. My wife went on their website and reserved a Chevy SUV from Michael M in Tampa Florida. We live in San Diego. Got up at 3am to catch our flight, had a layover in Houston, got to Tampa at 6pm. My wife had been in contact with Michael a couple of times letting him know when we were going to be picking it up. The day we flew in, we could not get a hold of him. He did not answer our texts nor return our phone calls. It costs us $35 ($30 Lyft ride + $5 tip) to get from the airport to his place. He was nowhere to be found, it was now 7pm and it was not the safest neighborhood. If my wife were by herself, it would not have been a good situation. We called Turo, they couldn't get a hold of him and now we were at the mercy of the "Legit" car rental companies to hopefully get a rental.
My wife called Lyft and back to the airport (another $35) we went. Was able to get a rental from Thrifty (BIG THANK YOU to THRIFTY) and headed to our hotel in Clearwater. Turo said they will reimburse us for the rental (really, I'd hope so, they were talking about giving us a credit for future rides, HAHAHAHA) and $50 more toward the Lyft charges. We wanted to leave a review about Michael M on their website so the next person would know, but there is NO place on the Turo website to do that. We even called Turo the next day inquiring how to warn others; we were told there is no way.
Bottom Line: If you use Turo, you have no idea who you are actually renting from or what area you are going to be picking it up from or even if they are going to show. If it weren't for Thrifty we would have been in a real crisis, so renting from Turo costs us two extra hours of an already long day and (as long as they follow through with reimbursements) $20 in Lyft that we would not have used.

When we discovered on the last day of our trip that the insides of the two front tires on the car we had rented via Turo.com were bald with the steel belt showing, we felt thankful to still be here and couldn't believe we were in this situation. The host of the car had been on the Turo site for a long time and had rented his car out many times...maybe too many times. We drove over 1,000 miles on steep grade highways with limited shoulders to pull off onto and few guardrails for safety throughout the state of Colorado. We also took scenic byways with sheer drop-offs, such as the Million Dollar Highway. Our trip ended by rerouting to a larger highway in order to locate a tire store.
Finally, 5 tire stores and half the day later, we spoke with the assistant manager of a Discount Tire store. He advised us that the two front tires could blow out at any time and that the two rear tires were in the red danger zone, according to Colorado state law. We were able to get in touch with the host who paid for 4 new tires to be installed right then. The host offered to give us a discount on our rental for our trouble, but did not. We contacted Turo, but their only offer was to give us a $50. credit toward our next rental on Turo.com, which we have no desire to do. It is clear to us that policy and regulations need a good makeover. Please be aware that each host on the Turo.com site operates independently and may or may not take the full responsibility of renting out their car to the public with the best safety precautions. Be smart, stay safe.

The host cancelled my rental four hours prior to start time. Because the rental never occurred, Turo does not allow us to write a review and warn others of the cancellation behavior. Then to add to the fact that I now don’t have a car, Turo customer support just says, go ahead and rebook. But I have no assurance that booking will work, and I have to spend another hour with support while I am trying to get to my flight. All of that stress and inconvenience would normally mean a company would apologize and offer something to keep their customer happy. Not in this case, no discount, credit, apology, nothing. I have gone from referring everyone I know to rent through Turo to telling everyone NOT to rent from Turo. It’s just too risky and not worth the hassle.

This whole experience was terrible. We got to Florida to pickup the car. The car was extremely difficult to find and the host did not speak any English to help us out. The first day driving it sounded like the car was falling apart and then the ABS light came on. We let her know and she came to trade us cars but we could only have it for 2 days because it already had a reservation. So after having it for 2 days she brings it back exactly the same, light still on and translates to us that it's all fine and the light will go off. On the way to our next destination the car begins to breakdown in a sketchy neighborhood. As we check the car, and old reviews we see that it's missing MULTIPLE lugnuts on each tire, the horn does not work at all, the brakes barely do, and the ABS light is on.
After sitting on hold with all different people trying to get help for 3 HOURS, we were finally told that we had to call the tow truck and we could call our Uber (which I told them was $150) and we would be reimbursed. Thank God we left because the tow truck didn't come to pickup us or the car until 11pm that night. This happened at 2pm. Then I reached out to get reimbursed for the Uber and was just told "You spent too much. We can't help you". Their customer service was absolutely useless and we were stranded at a sketchy gas station literally being harassed. The car was 100 percent unsafe to drive and she lied about it. They have chosen to do nothing to make it better or change it. Will never use Turo again and will never recommend it to anyone else.

Zero stars if I could. The first month I started renting my car my second guest that ever that booked my vehicle got in an accident during their trip. This person decided they were going to try and fix my vehicle themselves as they did not add insurance coverage to their trip. The guest extended their trip, not notifying me of the accident I approved the extension. I would have never extended had it been directly reported to me as is stated in Turo's operating procedure. The guest told me that there were no issues with the vehicle when I reached out to him.
Upon return, I noticed the botched autobody job immediately. Thankfully I took hundreds of photos and uploaded them (Hosts!! Be sure to always do this!!!). Customer service started off fast and responsive but once my claim reached the adjuster, which I learned you'll never hear from during the process, It was downhill from there. The communication was extremely vague and not comprehensive for Hosts. I had to ask what the process was to get reimbursed for a rental vehicle. I have coverage through Turo for a 10-day rental but it was not presented to me upon/day after dropping my vehicle at the autobody shop. Even then, it took 2-3 days for an emailed response on how to get a vehicle.
When I was finally reimbursed for the rental it was sent to an account where I had to claim the funds - same account in which to provide the funds for your car repair and of course, there was no notification on whether it was the funds for repair or for the rental so I didn't touch it. I technically have been without a car for 3 months. It didn't take them long to fix it my vehicle. It was moreso the slow or non-responsiveness of the claims department.
My vehicle was finished being repaired a week and a half ago. Turo claim has yet to provide all documentation for me to pick up my vehicle so I'm still waiting. The response from Turo was "everything is settled you can pick up your vehicle." However, the autobody shop stated they told the adjuster what was needed but have yet to receive a response. Turo's platform is based on Host being able to share their vehicles. I don't understand why the process is not made Host friendly. It's easy to list your car but if anything happens in the meantime you are subjected to the most difficult/costly processes that could span 3months or more. Not sure if it's worth the hassle.

As a host, renting out on Turo is profitable ONLY if you know the ropes - only rent out an old low value car. There are many hidden costs to renting out, especially the fact that Turo insurance comes with fine print - all plans except the '60' plan are only good as catastrophic insurance. They don't reimburse you if the guest dents your car or causes scratches smaller than 3 inches. A renter returned my car with 10-20 scratches (each about 0.5 inches), and Turo refused to compensate me for the significant cost to repair ($3000?) because each gash was less than 3 inches! Not worth the $100 I earned for the trip, not to mention the time spent cleaning the car, and inspecting it, etc. So it's only worth listing an old $4,000 value car.

My most-recent experience was similarly lucky with host Michael in Atlanta with his Chevy Malibu, which was late-model and beautiful and had just been detailed so it looked great when I picked it up. Little things like personal preferences as to vehicle customization specifically tinted windows aside, the overall experience was excellent and much cheaper than renting through Enterprise or Hertz or a big corporation. I still had questions of Turo as to insurance coverage, specifically liability-, collission-, comprehensive-, medpay-, and other coverage but insurance companies thrive off being complicated as to coverage so perhaps not Turo's fault.

Ever since I stumbled upon Turo back in 2017, I haven't used any other rental company since. Turo is so convenient, the cars are WAY better, and it's just a seamless process. If Turo could implement some sort of incentive program that would be amazing. I use Turo A LOT and it wasn't until recently (this summer) I received a $100 offer off of my next rental. The random I've spent well over 5K in renting vehicles with a top rating of 5.0 but I don't necessarily feel like I am a valued customer. I also feel like host should be penalized for last minute cancellations. This summer during my August rental, the host cancelled last minute and it was such an inconvenience trying to book another vehicle that could accommodate myself and family. Working with the customer service rep wasn't the greatest and I tried to escalate this to a manager and it just very frustrating. Nonetheless, it hasn't deterred me from using Turo.

Support staff was excellent. Almost every agent I spoke with was excellent. However I find it ridiculous that the Turo policy for a cancel/rebooking does not fully cover the expenses associated with switching to a different vehicle/an upgrade. To have to fight for that was needless. Time is what is really important to most people on vacation, and to have to spend hours and $$ traveling back to the airport to pick up the new vehicle (so I could drop it off and go right to my flight as planned) was unbelievably frustrating. Here's what took me a long time to learn:
The procedure is cancel and refund cash (which leaves you on your own, and in the case of unsafe/illegal vehicle I strongly believe should award *Turo travel credit* for wasted time for customer retention and satisfaction), even if done at vehicle pickup. Or cancel, end trip (by vehicle either being picked up by roadside assistance or returned to original location), and rebook. I believe if the customer wishes to rebook with Turo instead of switching to a more established/reputable/traditional company, they should be offered travel credit by the App - this is normal business practice to retain customers.
If a customer accepts a tow/roadside assistance, Turo should arrange for the new car to be delivered to the customer or reimburse the customer *fully* for a ride to the new car. It should not be on the customer to figure out how to solve the previous hosts' mistakes. Turo should also permit the car to be dropped off at/near the original vehicle pickup location, or arrange for a ride for the customer to their original pickup location. This is not Turo practice currently, but it should be. If I rent a car in New York and it breaks down in D.C., or worse is illegally unsafe, I should not have to get back to New York on my own dime. If customer returns the vehicle themselves, depending on the reason, Turo should arrange for the new car to be delivered to the customer or reimburse the customer *fully* for a ride to the new car. Not halfway as was offered by Turo.
My second Turo host actually offered to fully reimburse us for a ride to their car, which was excellent and I hope Turo helps the host pay for that, since Turo did offer to reimburse us halfway JustInTimeJeeps should get the half reimbursement at the very least. (I texted the host a Lyft receipt and the host Chase Quickpayed me, it was 16$.) Also, allowing the customer to rebook on their own through the app and then helping communicate with the new host (this was done well by Santiago on Monday morning) would be a good standard practice. Offering cars did not work too well, since they all had difficult pickup locations. Thanks to the staff who helped me, my complaint is with Turo policy not with any customer service agents! Turo policy should offer the partial refund/refund plus a significant travel credit for issues like this. The customer service line, however, was well-staffed, receptive, and worked with me to solve my issue.

As my title said, don't trust this company. I booked a car 6 months in advance of when I'd need it. I got an email less than 36 hours before I was supposed to pick up the vehicle, they canceled it and magically said they could get me a car for more than 60% more than the price I paid. This company is a scam. Do not book with them and do not believe them. Pay the extra money and book with reputable car rental location.

Zero star rating. Our first & LAST Turo rental. There's a good reason this company has an F rating on the BBB site. I wish I would have looked at reviews online before trying out this company. If considering renting a stone grey SR CVT Nissan Kicks 2021 from an owner whose name starts with a "B" in Oahu, I STRONGLY advise against it. Reviews show 5 star ratings but in reality, we were asked by the host to leave a positive review & star rating and after doing so, we were thanked and a few minutes later sent a notification of a damage claim. It only takes one online search to see how many of these "hosts" are willing to make false claims & wait to see how much they can rake in from you and/or your insurance company.
We rented this particular car without any issues other than the owners stating that picking us up at the airport was actually illegal per their state yet deciding to show up with keys in hand and car at curbside at the airport despite our request to be taken to the car off site. After our rental period ended, we returned the car & gave the host cash to apologize for showing up a few minutes late (even though within our legal window of rental time & finding out later that accepting cash voids the host's ability to file a claim). We personally spent 45 minutes of our own time hand detailing the car & making sure that it was returned in the same condition it was given to us.
After returning the car in person & the host having no issues with the return of the car, the next day, after leaving a positive review per their request, we received notification of a damage claim to the car & immediately were billed $500 to our credit card. We noted that the photos were uploaded at 2 am, after dropping off the car 6 hours earlier. When inquiring what damage the host claimed, we were told "Please do not worry, it was our mistake for reporting this late - in the morning" & also "You will not be charged. We will just file with Turo & see how insurance will pay for it". How is it legal for a host to accept the car & then hours later, after having possession of the car, claim that WE damaged it? Did we take "after" pictures when returning the car? No. Because unless you read the fine print, one does not realize they must literally take a picture of EVERY SQUARE INCH of a Turo rental in order to cover oneselves.
After reading other renter reviews post-trip, claims can be made against you if there is damage to the glove box, in the console, latches, switches, under the seats & under the car, inside the tire well, on the roof of the car - literally ANY place on the car can be claimed damaged by a dishonest host. Who has the time or energy to take pictures of every square inch of the car to protect themselves? If renting from Enterprise, Avis or any other reputable company, it is understood that when the car is returned & inspected, the renter will not be liable for whatever damage that occurs after the fact. One would think the same would be the case for Turo but they allow hosts to file up to 24 hrs AFTER drop off!
From extensive online research, you will find that they will side with the party whom they will gain most monetarily from. The claim can be absolutely bogus, as was ours, & they will give you the run around. We returned our car without any damage whatsoever. We were told that we caused an abrasion to the window button control arm rest (which from the pictures looked like something that could be wiped off with leather cleaner spray) in addition to a scratch on the dashboard.
After reviewing the pictures sent to us from Turo, taken by the hosts HOURS after we returned the car to them, we noted that the abrasion on the window control area is, according to Turo policy, not actually a valid claim because it did not meet length requirements. We pointed this out to Turo who appeared to have cared less & didn't address the issue. We strongly believe the dashboard scratch was a fraudulent claim. There wasn't damage at the time of drop off & the only thing ever on the dash was our parking pass for the hotel. Total estimate for said damage? An exorbitant almost $3,000!!!
Renters beware - Customer service will send you the same response they send everyone & you will, in fact, be billed & charged & stalked for more money until you either pay or are threatened with collections. With so many reputable rental car options out there, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to rent from this company. No cost savings is worth the heartache that you will inevitably receive if you rent from Turo. It should also be noted that when we demanded that our positive review be removed from the host's website, we were told that it was against policy to do so but if granted, we would not be able to retract the stars given to the host. That being said, one should realize that the positive reviews/stars you are seeing on Turo's website are inaccurate.

This morning, I received a notice that Turo denied my claim because I did not submit pictures PRIOR to the rental. I sent before and after pics of the odometer but neglected to take before pics of the interior. (I didn’t think the interior pics were needed since the van was new. Besides, no one would have accepted the van in the condition it was when it was returned.)
Nevertheless, Turo denied the claim for a second time. So, I’m out the $53 cleaning fee but I thought I would get reimbursed for the mileage portion- NOPE! Spent hours of our trip waiting for the car to be fixed and told the battery was fine even though we're pretty sure they never actually checked and spent the entire trip on edge worried the car wasn’t going to start as it had done previously. We felt we should’ve at least been entitled to a partial refund due to the fact that these issues were 100% preventable and it made our trip a lot more stressful than it needed to be.
Customer service told us they would contact the host and let us know about a refund by email but we never heard anything. Being new to Turo I was apprehensive. Needless to say my worries were put to ease once I communicated with my host, Thomas. He quickly responded to all my questions. His excellent customer service exceeded any expectations. The vehicle, Honda Pilot, ran like a champ and we fell in love with it. I will be recommending Turo to all my family and friends.

I'm rating TURO now, not any of the cars I've rented. The cars have been great. Turo is a different story. Turo doesn't give a ** about listing accuracy. I usually search for cars with manual transmissions. When I do, 75-90% of the cars do NOT have manual transmissions. The search feature simply doesn't work. I have notified Turo that these cars are listed incorrectly. I might even be satisfied by blocking certain cars--even though they're not manuals it might be enough to block them so I never see them when I search.
More disturbingly, I have actually seen people say, in their listings, "the car is an automatic, but Turo thinks it's a manual and won't let me change it." And then there are cases when people don't bother to put up enough pictures to tell for sure if the car is a manual. Turo needs to better enforce listing accuracy, and allow people to change if they have listed incorrectly. Until then Turo will remain a difficult to use, second rate service. -Tom

I rented a car from Michael ** and I was charged $150 for a smoking fee. I never smoked in the car. I placed my pack of cigarettes in the cup holder and some tobacco fell in. Doesn’t smell like smoke or ashes in the car. So I told them if by mistake someone steps on a cigarette and didn’t notice it and it falls in the carpet they're going to charge you for smoking. I rented the car so I step out the car to smoke a cigarette and placed the pack in the cup holder. So that’s considered smoking.
I was treated unfairly and on top of it all Michael ** didn’t meet me on time to pick his car up on time when I was charged $120 to get it delivered to me so he told me to park it in the airport parking lot and they also charged me for the parking. Real bad customer service and very bad business. To make it worse they kicked me off of Turo for smoking when I never did. I will let all my family and friends know not to rent any car from Turo. They're rip off artist especially Michael **.

Turo, is a total racket. Do NOT get involved with this company. You will get burned time and time again. You will pay too much or not get paid enough. If something the guest brings a car back damaged (which is against their terms of service) if you don't have your own coverage you have to pay for the damages. The amount of trauma guests and hosts experience aren't worth it. RUN RUN RUN from this company. It's a scam. It's a scam. They don't care about you. They don't honor commitments. They say one thing and it turns out to not be true. They don't compensate you for THEIR ERRORS. I cannot express to you enough to USE A RENTAL CAR COMPANY. USE A RENTAL CAR COMPANY. FYI. If you do choose to use ** your credit card or personal insurance doesn't work with them. Get FULL COVERAGE. COVER YOUR BUTT because ** will not help you.

I’m a over the road truck driver. I stay out on the road 26/30 days. Owning a car is pointless. With Turo I’m able to rent a car for as long as I need. The app is pretty straightforward and very convenient. Unlike the traditional car rental places that require you to use a credit card. I highly recommend this app!

Very upset. Booked the car. Came to pick up. After waiting over one hour been told that verification failed. I did a nose surgery. I send them pictures from and after surgery pictures. Agent Miguel said, "Yes I believe it’s you. But I am sorry your account is block. We will send you full refund and will ask other departments to unblock your account quickly." Guys make sure you don’t do any type of surgery otherwise you will end up in the street without car. Very upset and rude for providing such low quality service.

The last time that I used Turo was before the pandemic when I traveled to Colorado. That experience was really easy. The communication with the driver was awesome and he was able to meet me at the airport no problem. This time however, setting up the location to meet and pick up was inconvenient due to the app. Getting picked up from the airport or even to just change the location of pickup was going to be an additional $120. Luckily the driver made it very easy and he was able to work with me as far as the pickup and drop off locations but to be honest with you, I won't use Turo again because of that. If I was required to pay the $120 it would have been cheaper for me to just rent a car. It would have also taken up a lot less time because I wouldn't have had to keep going through the app and calling the person to work out the details. It definitely was not worth using again.
