    Turo is better than commercial rental car agencies because you get the car you pick, not the car in class available. They offer insurance but I've never used it because my auto insurance covers rentals and yes, that includes Turo (this I know from experience as I had to file for a fender bender). Customer service has ranged from excellent (they found a a last minute replacement while I was in flight to my destination) to no response in Chat customer service so I guess it depends on the day. I've had about half a dozen successful rentals from Turo and highly recommend.

    How was my Turo experience you ask? Please let me elaborate… We have rented with Turo prior with no issues, however this time was VERY different. There were issues with the directions the owner gave us for pick up, which put our step count in to high gear as we went from one terminal to another to find the car. When we arrived at our hotel, checked in and went back to park the car, the car wouldn’t start. We contacted the owner, who indicated there had been prior issues he thought were resolved and wasn’t sure what was wrong. He recommended we call Turo to cancel the reservation and let them know it was mechanical issues.

    We then went through 4 agents on the phone, 4 agents on the chat, 3 different departments, and 7 hours and 20 minutes later to finally get the reservation canceled. They wanted to charge me for the 30 minutes we had the car operating and the time that it sat, not working with the key locked in it mind you, until the owner came to pick up the vehicle. Are you kidding me!!! In the meantime we had to book another Turo through my partner's account so that we had a car. While the rental market is rough right now, I’m not sure the 7 hours and frustration spent with Turo when there is an issue is worth it! They quite possibly have the worst customer support process around, transferring you from place to place, repeating your case each time with frustration building. They made it impossible for their agents to resolve the problem in a timely matter. I finally got notice of a refund, have not seen it yet. No credit towards our additional Turo rental either. The worst!

    I loved Turo for the longest time. I was a host for a few years. I told all my friends about it. I rented from them every chance I could. But then today, I was late to pick up my rental by 30 minutes and they were unwilling to let me book another car and use the $459 for another rental. Charging your customers a 2 day fee on a 3 day reservation is preposterous! I am so disappointed with the way this went down. I really thought better of them as a company. I'm getting married next week and our car broke down. There's a shortage of normal traditional affordable rental cars in the US and on top of that, they take my money for being 30min late?? Turo has been reaping the benefits of inflation and automotive supply chain disruption hand over fist and this is how they reward loyal customers. Sorry, but today is the day I delete my account and move on to GetAround or ZipCar.

    I had been a happy guest for Turo for several trips, until a recent trip changed my opinion. I had no issues on car damages and always kept the host’s cars clean after use. But we met a host who made a sudden location change and lack of communication issue. After communicating with Turo customer service back and forth through emails, I summarized their host biased policy:

    1. If host listed a service that he/she could not provide and did not inform guests before the 2 days before the trip starts, and you checked in the trip, nothing will happen to the host. Turo will just kindly "remind" the host to correct her/his listings for the future.

    2. If hosts cancel the trip, they get $25 (more than 24 hours) or $50 (within 24 hours) punishment. If guest cancels the trip within 25 hours before the trip starts, guests pay 0.5 day (<2 days trip) or 1 day’s trip price + half of any delivery fee. For cleaning, disinfecting, airline interruptions, death or hospitalization of family member, natural disaster et al caused issues, you need to call customer service immediately before checking in to get full refund. Turo did not say if they will fully refund you if you cancel the booking within 24 hours because of sudden location changes made by the host.

    3. Hosts and guests will leave reviews blindly after the trip, but cannot change after reviews are published. Hosts have the privilege to response/comment on guest’s reviews, but you cannot comment back what host said about you as a guest.

    It all depends on the person whose car you're renting. For the most part, I've had good experiences with Turo. However, 1/3 of my trips (2 of 6) have been cancelled by the renter, one was cancelled the day before my scheduled rental. So things to looks for: How many times a car has been rented. If none, then be wary of potential cancellations. Also, check the fees. Some people have a lot more than others. These can significantly increase the cost of a reservation. Check if there are extra fees for airport pickup, etc. So overall, I'm pretty satisfied, but I'll always be nervous that my rental will be cancelled at the last minute. Have a backup plan ready.

    Turo makes all the $ but I did all the work. Their profit margins upward to 60%. Too much maintenance. I had a guest a day late and I never was reimbursed and no reimbursement for fuel shortage regardless of proof. This is not passive income! You will work for the $ and Turo will not back you up on anything. I had to track down my car when the guest phone # was disconnected. I'm a professional and hosted a 2022 Honda Accord but the experience wasn't worth it so I deleted it off Turo and sold it and just made a quick $4k but my goal was to make more. I made $ but if you're like me, I want quick passive income. It's better for someone with older used cars and hire someone to do all the work.

    Host listed vehicle with incorrect trim. I searched for a hybrid vehicle upon booking and it appeared on the search.  Even prior to driving off, I mentioned to the host how excited I was to drive a HYBRID. Now I see why he had a confused look on his face. All he had to do was let me know instead of ignoring my statement. The supervisor is claiming I didn't report within an hour which is the policy for vehicle safety and conditions, not for vehicle misrepresentation. I also explained that it is not possible to know a vehicle's trim by just getting inside. Not to mention I shouldn't have to check the trim in the first place because the vehicle should match the listing, otherwise the host is violating Turo's listing policy.

    When we picked up the car at the airport, the owner did not pay for the parking. We had to pay for the parking or else we would not have been able to remove car from the airline parking space. The car interior was not clean. When we dropped off the car the owner required that we take pictures of the car's location, which we did. But because we were in a hurry to get to our plane. The owner call within 10 minutes of us dropping off the car. He demanded we send in the pictures right away or he would report the car stolen. We did send in the pictures after we made sure we were on time for our flight. We will never use Turo again.

    Just can’t say enough about such a great weekend rental experience with Matt our host! Hertz rent-a-car failed us with our reservation that they couldn’t fulfill or honor when we arrived.     I reserved a car through Turo and paid in full 2 months before my travel date. On the day of travel, I had not heard from the host about where to meet her at the airport to pick up the car, so I sent her a message through the app. I had not received a response at the time I boarded the plane. When I landed at the airport, I opened the app to see if she had responded and discovered my reservation was canceled. Neither Turo nor the host contacted me to tell me why the reservation was canceled. My money was refunded, but I had no car and the car rental companies at the airport were sold out when I got to the counter.

    This was my first time using Turo. I didn't know how the app worked until I went through a trial-and-error phase. The customer service department takes forever to get back to you for verification on your account. They will restrict your account for no reason, no warning at all. Turo adds on a lot of fees on top of your trip as well as added on processing fees if you go over mileage. You would think you'll pay the host for the added fees but Turo adds on a ** load of fees as well, so you're paying double to triple on added fees when you book. Worst app!     We like using Turo as there is a better selection of vehicles. The biggest worry with using Turo over a rental agency is the dependability. We are always worried until we actually see the car that it will be cancelled or not there. There is no guarantee for a car. Also, if the car has any mechanical issue or something doesn’t sound right, there is not an option to swap out the vehicle to continue your vacation.

    The car and the host were great, the app works great. The Turo team however was a huge pain. First an electrical error occurred on my trip and I got almost zero support. The advice of Turo was to tow the car to the owner on my own expense. Then another Turo team started aggressively harassing me to pay for “damage” (first an accusatory phone call then barrage of emails), it felt like racketeering. The owner and I agreed we split the cost of repair, since nobody could say what really happened and when, but Turo knew better and we still had to both deal with the Turo “support”. Moreover, I ended up not having the car available for 4 days and despite the fact the Host contacted Turo and offered to reimburse me, I haven’t seen a dime. Now Turo is quiet all of a sudden. Never more. Seriously.

    Your "trip fee" is a little excessive and ridiculous. I understand the rental fee because I am using the car, but to charge me double is a little much. If the rental is $100. I should pay $100 plus tax and whatever fee the car owner charges for cleaning. Not All those plus another $100. Making my $100 rental now $200 plus tax and fees. That's so ridiculous. My $250 rental is now like $575 after tax. At least at a car rental place you might pay a deposit but you get that back at the end of your trip. I paid an extra $250 with this added trip fee and that's not something that gets refunded. My trip as a whole was easy, the vehicle owner was amazing but the added trip fee you charge for the rental is something I don't know I would be ok with paying again.

    I rented a Kia Soul for $42.00 a day and by the time Turo finished with their fees and insurance charges (which I denied because I am already insured), the rental was over 400 dollars per week.     During the last week of March, I rented a 2016 Jeep Compass from Abe in Nashville TN. When I picked the Jeep up from the apartment complex everything went great, and he seemed genuinely nice. During my trip, I went over the allocated 1600 miles by 200 miles or so. After I returned the Jeep, I got an invoice stating that I owed 85 dollars and I had 24 hours to either dispute or pay, of course, I paid because it was my fault. The next morning I checked my credit card statement. Turo/Abe had charged me an extra 283 dollars. I did not understand why so I tried to check my Turo app, but I was locked out of my account. Soon after I received an email from customer service saying that I violated Turo's terms by smoking in the Jeep, and I nor anyone that went with me smoke.

    They said there were ashes smeared on the floor mat, floor, and the driver side seat. I know that was a lie because I spent two hours vacuuming and shampooing every piece of carpet in that Jeep, including the floor mats. Then I used cleaners made especially for the leather seats and vinyl dashboard. By the time I was finished, that Jeep looked better than when I picked it up. Turo's terms of use states that you will be notified of any damage incurred on your trip, and you will have 24 hours, but they did not even tell me about these charges.

    I called my credit card company and they put a hold on the payment while they investigated, well Turo did not like that because a few hours later they added another charge that was 600 dollars. I tried to get back in contact with Turo's customer service but could not reach them but once, then they told me there was nothing that could be done.

    The worst part is when I started looking into this and reading reviews from different websites, I found out I am not the only person this has happened to. I found at the very least ten other reviews where someone got charged extra for violating the no-smoking rule and those people did not smoke either. If anyone reads this and has had that happen to them, please leave a review on here and I will keep a check on it. This is not fair, and I am sure if we all get together something can be done about it.

    We rented a car through Turo in Hawaii. We were rear ended by another driver on our last day. Police were called, tickets issued to other driver, proper paperwork filed. After 30 days Turo charged me for the repairs to the rented car. I contacted Honolulu PD to see why a copy of the report was not sent to Turo. Turo did not request one. Basically Turo did not pursue the at fault driver at all. Instead just charged me for the repairs after 30 days have passed. My only recourse is to pay and then pursue the other driver on my own or through my insurance. I spoke with multiple customer service reps in an attempt to get Turo to go to pursue the other driver. I was told by each that after 30 days it was my problem, not theirs. If you decide to rent through Turo, don't have an accident, even if it is not your fault you will be paying for it if the other driver delays past 30 days.

    My experience was very sub par. Not with Turo but with the host. I picked up at a shop and was never greeted by the host. I actually dealt with one of his co workers who was very helpful. I never knew who the host was until I asked. The car was not washed nor was it full with gas, was slightly under full though I returned it full because I couldn’t gauge how much was in it prior to using it. Those weren’t major problems. My major problem was the inside of the car was not fully clean. I’ve rented with turo before and the car is usually always clean so I never second-guessed it. I got a notification a week after I would be assessed a smoking fee of $277 when I never smoked in one of the cars but they were going back and forth on which car it was.     Expect problems if you are a new user. I needed a car on my vacation for three weeks. But my attempt to open a TURO account failed when they sent me a verification number by e-mail: I entered the number on the TURO site but got a message “code did not match”. I requested a new code, entered that one, and got “code did not match”. Then the site locked up and gave me the message “contact Customer Service.” There is no customer service. I finally found a “HELP” number that sent me back into the FAQs loop for the eighth time. TURO is one of those sites that will do anything not to talk to you. It works.     This is my second attempt at using this company, the 1st time I had to cancel but this time I was right on. The total 179.00 for 2 days (48 hrs), drove the car for 1 day and came home. Parked the car and did not drive it for the 2nd day. Started getting call Friday morning, based on the information shared it was not for 2 days it was for 36 hrs. Based on information I input it was my belief that I would turn the car in at 5pm on friday. So I started answering the calls from Turo and the owner, they both kept asking me when I was going to return the car.

    So I told both of them that if that is how this company works I was not going to return the car, they could come pick it up and since they owe for 12 hours they can get the gas money from 12 hr overcharge. Because the cost was 43 per day and as we all know 1 day equals 24 hrs and I don't answer city, state or country where 1 day = 12 hrs. So if you are carsharing with TURO, make sure you read the contract carefully and of see that "HUGE" problem, get your vehicle from a RENT A CAR COMPANY!!!! Don't get shortchanged because you could be out of town and have to cut your trip short or be charged for extra day, when 24 hrs is 24 hrs no matter what world you live in!!!!

    Car rentals everywhere have been outrageously expensive of late, especially in Hawaii, so I was glad to find a car on Turo for less than I would have paid for a rental car. The car was in good working order and was delivered to us perfectly clean and ready to go. We had absolutely no issues and the best part was that the car was ready to go in the parking lot at Lihue airport when we arrived which saved a ton of time compared to taking a shuttle and standing in line at the rental car counter, especially since we got in late at night.     I used Turo last month in the Orlando area. The car I chose (Davi's Toyota Corolla) was listed as Free Delivery to the Orlando airport, which was why I chose it (I was travelling with my 89 year old mother). Davi messaged to say the car would be waiting in the airport parking garage and should be returned to the same garage upon completion of our trip. Everything went reasonably well and I left a good review through the Turo app. I was surprised then when I got an invoice a few weeks later saying I was being charged $40 for airport parking. I disputed this charge with Turo and complained to Davi that it was sneaky to advertise a car as free delivery but then charge for it.

    When I complained to customer service about the issue, I got an email saying, "Your dispute regarding tolls was denied." I clarified that I was NOT disputing the tolls, only the parking fee at the airport garage on a car that advertised FREE delivery. I also said, "If Turo won't consider this a valid dispute, I would like at least to edit my review so that I may alert others that free delivery on this car is not actually free." I then got this response from Turo: "We're sorry that you disagree with our outcome regarding your host's tolls." and "In the future please disclose any concerns as soon as they arise."

    It's frustrating enough to be dealt with unfairly (just be upfront about delivery costs, don't say free!) but then to deal with a customer support rep who is clearly not even bothering to read my emails, is doubly frustrating. I was never given a chance to edit my review and my concerns were answered with "we now consider this matter resolved". I have no faith in this organization and won't take the chance of renting from them again. BEWARE.

    Went to Las Vegas to attend a wedding. We arrived a few days early to do a road trip to the Grand Canyon, Bryce and Zion. Car rental rates were pretty high being the long weekend (President's Day) and Las Vegas... Turo offered the lowest rates and looked legit. We arrived at 9PM PST on 2/18/2022. Our host, Christopher **, was only available until 10:00PM. So I rushed to the pickup address in a cab. 2 MINUTES BEFORE I GOT THERE, I get a text from Christopher that MY RENTAL WAS CANCELLED WITH NO EXPLANATION IN THE TEXT. After I got that message, I could not reach Christopher at the number he provided earlier (not that he had been responsive before this.

    During this whole experience, he had not been very responsive). Later I found out that Christopher had sent an email explaining that the car we were renting had issues. However, in the heat of the moment, I did not think of looking at email. I only saw his message after our situation was resolved. I looked for Christopher at the address provided hoping he'd have an alternate vehicle but we could not find the place and all the units in the building were closed and dark. For safety reasons, I decided to abandon that avenue and look for a new rental. Trying to get help from the Turo app, it led me to alternative rentals. But it looked like these were alternatives from the same host. NOT SO! It was for a rental across town. Mind you, by this time, it was 9:50PM PST and the alternate host was available, AGAIN!, only until 10:00PM PST.

    The cab driver said it was near impossible to get there by that time. So I decided to return to LAS and my traveling companions. On the way back to LAS, I immediately called the new host to cancel but he advised me to call Turo directly so as not to get penalized. Don't know if that's true because Turo policies clearly stated that if a rental is cancelled within the hour it was made, there would be no penalty. So why should it make a difference whether it was cancelled by the host or by Turo? When I called Turo customer service, I was placed ON HOLD FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR. When I finally reached someone, I was told that I would be penalized $200 because it had been over an hour since I made the reservation. At this point, I HAD HAD ENOUGH. I told her that I had been on hold for over an hour and that I SHOULD NOT BE PENALIZED FOR TURO'S SHORTCOMING (THE INABILITY TO HANDLE CALL VOLUME).

    Finally, after being put on hold for 20-30 more minutes, they agreed to waive all charges. LESSONS I LEARNED: Although it may be possible to have a positive rental experience with a Turo host, I would not do it if time was a consideration. Pickup times were quite limited (8AM-10PM usually). While the rates were considerably lower than big car rental companies, there was little room for error/issues. In my case, had I rented from a Avis or Hertz, there probably would have been alternatives if my car of choice was not available. Also, I would not have been pressured to make the cutoff because, at the airport, car rental companies were usually available 24x7. We ended up renting a very nice GM Terrain from PAYLESS at LAS. We had to pay a bit more but it was worth the peace of mind. WOULD I ATTEMPT TO RENT FROM A TURO HOST AGAIN? Maybe, but so many stars would have to be aligned before I do so again.

    I heard recently about Turo and was excited to try it as car rental prices have gotten so high. All seemed to go well for my friend and I until 1 week after our car rental was over and I received an email from Turo. It stated that the owner of the car had filed a claim against us due to “cigarette ashes” in the car. The email further explained that I was being charged $250 and that they had deactivated my account. They next stated that because I was removed from Turo (by their doing) I could not provide payment to them. So they automatically sent it to collections!! I was never contacted by either the host or Turo prior to this asking for payment. They never even gave me the opportunity to pay. But even worse, we never smoked in the car! I’ve never smoked in my life.

    The pictures provided show a powdery residue left where my shoes had been in contact with the floor of the car. It was sand from Orange Beach, which is white and very fine!! I attempted to reach out to Turo, but after many hours of exhausting effort, they only tell me their decision is final. I’m so extremely frustrated by the injustice of this whole process and intend to continue to fight it. Another interesting note: I was shut down from the account before I could leave a review…Isn’t that handy for Turo?

    Just had a car cancelled at literally the last minute, had to be on the phone with four different customer service people (one with a terrible connection and a literal rooster crowing in the background) for forty five minutes to get money back.     We needed a backup car or a week as one of our cars broke down. I rented from Turo a 2012 Toyota Prius, with about 120K miles. Car, pick up and drop off were easy enough, I drove the car only about 30 miles (including drop off and return) with no passengers, pets etc. When returned, the car was in the same condition as when picked up, with the exception of one-less bar on the fuel tank (I had no time to add-in gas). To my complete surprise, I got charged $150 cleanup fees. The owner send pictures of a hair on the dash-board, and the floor etc. As I spent no more than 45 min in the car, hair could hardly be mine. Nor Turo or the owner could not provide *before* pictures, because as far as I can tell, there were trumped-up charged. When challenged, Turo's position was that these charges were within policy.     Thought Turo sounded great for the savings and being able to get the exact car you are renting. Here is what I had not thought about as I stood in economy parking at SLC looking at a wrecked dirty vehicle. (4 areas on car had body damage). None of which was mentioned in communication before pick up or pictures online. What do you do if car is unacceptable? What do you do if car has damage when you pick it up. What if car is not there? What if you can't get into car or need to contact host for that 4 am drop-off or pick-up?

    What if car has mechanical problems? What if host cancels because previous renter wrecks car? Rental companies usually have backups. At my pick up traditional rental car companies were out so had to take vehicle and it turned out to be mechanically fine we just had to wipe down interior of car and documented with lots of pictures while my family waited at terminal for me to figure out what to do. My first and last Turo rental. Everything worked out but for the unknowns, 35 percent savings not worth it.

    I rented a vehicle from this platform. Super convenient. I dropped the vehicle off. We did a walkthrough. Everything was fine. 12 hrs later they claimed that I had damaged the vehicle. I called Turo and they said that the host has 24 hrs to take pictures of the damage. I explained that anything can happen in 24 hrs. He could have went to get gas and damaged the vehicle. He could have rented it out and it got damaged. So now I’m at the mercy of the renter and Turo. Don’t fall into their scams.

Jerome ** was the insurance claim guy, he lost my vehicle for a month (they did not know which facility it was transferred to). After 3 months of calls and hours of conversation TURO claims adjuster filed a fraudulent report and told me they were not responsible for fixing my car after paying over $1000 in insurance coverage. My car was damaged by a customer and TURO refuses to pay. I would use companies like Getaround, Lyft Rentals, and Uber Rent if you want to rent your vehicle. TURO is a scam company.

    My husband and I took a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate him being chosen as 'Teacher of the Year' at his high school. While there, we decided we wanted to get out of the city for a day. We were looking for rental cars and came across an ad for Turo. My husband created an account on their app and we quickly found a Jeep to rent from a host named Nathan **. Nathan seemed to be a reputable host as he owns a Farmer's Insurance agency in the Las Vegas area. The only thing Nathan asked of us to do was to take the jeep through a car wash before returning, which we did. When we got to his Farmer's Insurance office to pick up the jeep, a guy was there in an SUV and "helped" us in locating the keys in the lock box - stating he worked for Nathan.

    We got the keys and ventured out for the day. We had a blast exploring the Valley of Fire and Mt. Charleston. As we were turning the jeep in - we contacted an UBER to take us back to the city. The UBER arrived very quickly as we turned in the keys, locked up the jeep and ran out to the front of the building so he wouldn't think we weren't there. As my husband was posting in the app that the vehicle had been returned, it asked for pictures to be uploaded of the condition of the vehicle.

    This was the first we had seen of this - that we should upload pictures. He texted Nathan on his personal cell phone and let him know that we hadn't taken any pictures of the inside of the jeep - but that we may have gone over the mileage by a few miles so please let us know how much we might owe him for going over. He even left the crook a 5 star review on the app! What a mistake!! Nathan never responded to his texts. We returned home from our trip and a few days later - we receive an email from Turo stating that my husband's account has been deactivated and Nathan had uploaded photo "evidence" that we had smoked in his vehicle - posting pictures of ** and a pipe that were supposedly left inside the console.

    The center console was locked!! We could not get into it on the trip and we just figured it’s like an “owner’s closet” in a vacation rental. Also - my husband and I do not smoke! In fact, my husband has asthma and takes daily inhalers/medications to help with his asthma. When my husband called Nathan to discuss thinking it must have been a mistake - he stated that his "driver" found it and that they had uploaded the pictures. When my husband called him back, Nathan had blocked his number. When we called him from a different number, Nathan stated, "I have pictures and you don't!" and hung up on him. Because Turo deactivated the account - we couldn't see the pictures. We also aren't able to leave a review about Nathan for other Turo users.

    Through endless attempts to contact Turo via email, chat, and phone - no one would let us speak to anyone who could help us - and they ultimately emailed us and declined our dispute stating we violated their "No Smoking" policy. My husband and I are both educators in GA. Drug use is strictly prohibited and could result in us losing our teaching certificates! To be accused of drug use and not be given the chance to dispute it because we don't have photographic evidence is an awful feeling. They fined us $287.50 and said we would be contacted by a Collection's agency to collect the money. Come to find out - they charged our credit card anyway and Nathan just got some extra cash in his pocket. What was such a wonderful day filled with beautiful memories - has quickly become a nightmare!

    Days ago I called Turo's phone number because I wanted to rent a Car. I realized that the customer service person had a Latin accent and name, so as a US citizen with Latino roots I found it nice to speak Spanish with her. To my surprise, this lady replied in English that although she spoke Spanish, Turo´s internal policy did not allow her to speak Spanish with clients which I found not only discriminatory but also disrespectful to taxpayers like me. Needless to say I decided not to rent any vehicle and on the contrary I am going to find out if this Turo´s policy violates any law on discrimination based on their place of origin. When one travels to Europe, it is surprising to see that most Europeans speak at least two languages. The last time I visited the city of Munich in a Shopping Center the valet parking spoke 6 languages.

    I needed to make sure the car I booked had the appropriate car seats for my children. Unfortunately, the only way to communicate with a vendor on Turo is to make a booking, which then is supposedly free to cancel. I had to make many bookings and cancellations because the vendors never had the right car seats I needed. Despite my cancellations, I my credit card was charge multiple times, to amounts that did not apply to the booking charges. I only noticed a few months later that this had happened, and I was never refunded, even though I never actually rented a car.

    I spent many hours on the phone with Turo, and exchanged many messages. They refunded all of the amount except about 50 euros, which I am still trying to get. They have left it to me to make a reclamation with my bank, claiming the difference in the refund is "exchange fees". My bank claims that there should be no such exchange fees. I would not recommend this company, depsite the convenience it pretends to offer.

    My partner and I organised a trip to Hawaii & Canada — and I can safely say both sets of bookings were disastrous. Turo might be one of the cheapest options for renting cars, if not the cheapest, but save yourself heartache, headaches and lighter wallets by renting from an actual car rental company which has actual compensation policies in place in the event of unforeseen circumstances (read: extremely expensive inconveniences).

    USA: This wasn’t Turo’s issue but just to highlight the kind of issues that can occur with the platform. We rented a car for 3 weeks for Hawaii and arranged for self pick-up at a designated time and date. Instructions were given to us to pick up the car ourselves from a specific location. Not only was the car not there after we searched for a good half hour, but the car owner/renter also wasn’t around to inform us that the car wasn’t actually there OR available anymore, OR even have the decency to just pick up the phone, call us and let us know.

    Only after we had wandered around for 30-40 minutes trying to find the car and re-reading our text exchanges, did we call them to find out that the car was no longer available. Instead, we had to wait another half hour for him to turn up and bring us to another car which was running on empty and wasn’t in the cleanest condition. Again, this wasn’t on Turo but because it essentially operates like an Airbnb, your experience largely depends on the host you’re renting from and you’d be hard pressed to be recompensed.

    CANADA: My partner and I rented a car for 2.5 weeks for our Canada leg of the trip, supposedly from 8-23 Mar. On 6 Mar, we were told that our ride got cancelled (with no explanation provided), just with a token $150/160 sum credited into our Turo account. While the Customer Service Officer also found an alternative car rental host and offered to secure it for us on our behalf, the total cost was over $200 more than what we had paid, even after taking the credits into consideration. And why should we pay that when we were the ones being inconvenienced? We responded to the email within 2 hours requesting for more help but he went incommunicado despite the urgent timeline.

    Fast forward to today and we were grasping at straws as THAT car he suggested was now unavailable (which meant he did not even soft-book it for us which made his solution moot since he also basically went missing in action after delivering bad news and “offering assistance”). And the next available car was basically almost an additional 100% on top of what we had previously paid for our original car — that is, we had paid $660 previously and the new car was over $1100!! That still amounts to about an additional $400+ out of our own pockets!

    Aghast, we called Turo and after 2.5 hours of back and forth, they maintained that they have no control over the car rental hosts and could only “reimburse” us with a maximum of $190 credits thereabouts which we HAVE to still use on Turo, where the same unpleasant scenarios can absolutely happen once more. They also stated they weren’t able to issue a promo code to help offset the additional costs (because why is the onus on us to source for, rebook and still pay MORE for a situation that wasn’t caused by us).

    The entire experience was just ridiculous, inconvenient and stressful and because they don’t own the fleet, they claim they don’t have control over hosts or compensation and until they fix the latter, you’re really better off and will have greater peace of mind if you just book with an actual site than this. You get what you pay for.

    Booking was easy and host was great. Got into a little accident which was not a big deal. Host was great and we were ready to take care of the rest. It has been FOUR MONTHS of going back and forth with Turo because they refuse to listen to us or communicate. We have literally given them $3000 out of pocket and they still have not closed this case. They refuse to reach out to the correct insurance. We have 10 different people going back and forth with us repeating themselves. I have never tried more than an insurance place to close out a claim and just be done with it. They need some serious training. I would not book again just for this reason.

The second host Justin B from Honolulu HI did not respond to us until after the rental was to have started and then we wasted 3 hours to secure another rental. The host stated he was gone on a plane & did not have internet. It was poor planning on his part and caused us to waste 3 hours, missed our reservation to Pearl Harbor. When we called Turo support we were cut off once & had to start all over, Turo support could not reach the host either. We were not able to leave a review on that host as the Host then canceled the reservation so the host keeps his 5 star rating so reviews are biased.

    Our vehicle was not delivered fully charged, blaming the charging stations for the discrepancy. Host was rude and mislead us towards the end, had a $20 parking fee on top of $50 fee for delivery. Host was to return us but hasn’t yet. Host also said that he will reimbursed the charging credit (not sure). No communication on that. Host was rude to us at the end, though during the trip he was responsive. I would not recommend this host. I used to be a host, and blaming Turo rules to charge us more is not needed. Just say it!     The first time giving Turo a try my rental car broke down 3 hours from my original start location. Any reputable company would understand and arrange for a way to get back to your started destination or agreed return location. However after hours of text, chat, and calls with customer service, the best they were able to do was provide a $50 Uber credit. I had to arrange my own way home and it ruined my trip and was left $400 out of pocket by getting a one-way rental with another company to get back home.

    I was under the impression this cost would be reimbursed because I was not at fault for the mechanical issues from the car after talking with a service rep. However, they decided they will only reimburse if I used LYFT or Uber even though there were none available where the car broke down. If you plan to leave anywhere more than 15 miles from the pickup with no LYFT or Uber and have problems, expect to pay out of pocket for any expenses. I was left extremely frustrated and will continue to leave my review everywhere. Horrible customer service. I could go on but these were my biggest problems.

    I planned my trip to Florida for over a year in advance and "tried" to use Turo for a car rental. I paid three months ahead of time for a convertible for my daughter. Once we arrived the car would not unlock. The "owner" couldn't get it to unlock either. Turo on a help line said it was unlocked and there was nothing that could be done. I should call roadside assistance. Really? It's not even my car!! The "owner" couldn't respond to unlock it. I was now stuck without a car or a backup. Nice. Thanks.

    Then the owner immediately refunded my car and cancelled the trip so I could not give him a negative review. That should not be allowed because anyone using the service should know! It's only fair to make sure everyone is aware of what can happen. My advice to anyone using this application. There is no backup. Nobody is there with another car! Make sure the car is either keyless entry or has a hidden key for starters. If you break down make sure there is a backup in writing. Again there is no backup. None. Be wary folks because I got burned.

    I thoroughly enjoyed the Turo community. I am a huge lover of all cars. So it is nice to be able test drive cars that I normally could not rent through other markets. I will forever use Turo. I hate electric cars, the limitations on range and the time spent charging aren’t worth the hassle. So I will never use Turo for anything other than petrol engine vehicles. And the fees are quite hidden at the end of the booking. Please add that to the total cost when viewing all cars available for the time slot you’re searching In. We need more visibility of the cost. And why aren’t the market prices making sense? Older cars can cost just as much to rent as a newer car? Why are you letting some require deposits but not all. Let us filter that out.

    I rented a car through Turo last night for the dates 7-3-22 to 7-10-22. I received a confirmation number and paid in full with my credit card. I received an email later that night that the host claims they didn't mean to post the car on the site. I spent over 4 hours once I finally got ahold of a supervisor at Turo on the phone. Even though it wasn't my fault I was forced to cancel my contract and pick a more expensive car. The problem with this company is even though you have a binding contract they can cancel any time. You can't talk to anyone incorporate, no one gives out their number. Very poor customer stratification. I am very disappointed it sounded like a good company. I checked with the Better Business Bureau. They have an F rating and over 990 complaints to date.

    I had a great first experience with Turo, but the second time that I rented, there was some confusion around my license being valid (it is valid and the DMV site shows that, but the physical copy is old). After having zero issues registering on Turo or getting my first car, I thought everything was fine. This time, the host spent 30min trying to get an answer from Turo (they were vague with him) and then I had to spend 30min with them on the phone, followed by a text chat (that team isn't available via phone for some reason). That text chat stopped responding after 30min of tapping my phone to make sure it didn't go to sleep.

    I initiated a second text chat, making it my 3rd attempt of the day, and that person denied the DMV proof that I provided. I later received an email saying that they are only refunding me less than half of the cost, which I think is completely ridiculous based on their app allowing me to both register and rent a car just a week ago under the same circumstances. I am not one to write negative reviews, but I am infuriated.

    Turo is very greedy that have slot of hidden fees. I spent over 20k on a rental. Had it for months. My Host Brandon is AMAZING. THIS has nothing to do with my host. I was paying 100 a day. If I booked 3 hours late bc of my host not picking up to rebook Turo charge me $150 for 3 hour late fee. After host said it was ok no problem but turo still charged me. I’m paying 100 each day for car with turo. If I get the car for 2 days they charge me 150 every 2 days in tax so for 2 day rental instead of 200 it’s 350 with turo high taxes and fees. It’s not worth it. Then when I call turo they don’t want to tell you their fees. Just charge you. I will never use Turo again. I would go elsewhere. They're very greedy how they make more money than my host and it's his car. My host make 75 a day and a 100 rental take 25 from host and 150 every two days from customer. They're making a killing. They're very greedy. Please read turo guide before you book. RUN!!!!

    The host arrived late for the delivery and failed to update the actual pick-up time. This was a three day rental. The car was older and more run down than the photo. The wiper blades failed immediately during the rain. The blades needed to be replaced. The service light came on the second day. The eco light wouldn't work so I couldn't get good gas mileage. When I returned the vehicle I was verbally attacked by the host and his spouse. They said they tracked my movements and wanted to know what I was doing. The company failed to refund my money. I am waiting on a refund.

    I appreciate Turo. I used it since Hertz screwed me over and told me incorrect information. The only issue I have with Turo is that I was trying to rent on 2/2. I was 25/yo. On 2/3 I turned 26 (very next day) Turo was trying to charge me a $90 fee for 6 hours as a young driver fee. That’s ridiculous but luckily my birthday was the next day.
