I booked a Seattle Tour through TripAdvisor at least 6 weeks before the tour date of August 27th and the charge from "Viator Trip Advisor" appeared on my charge card immediately. I had to cancel a month before the tour and was told my card would be credited since I could cancel at least 24 hours before the tour. It is now September 23rd and no refund has been made, even after proving I deserved a refund. I'll never use them again.

TripAdvisor is a nightmare to deal with. The prices are great UNTIL you have a problem. Their "help" staff is difficult to understand, doesn't communicate with each other, and is more concerned with keeping the money you paid than helping their customers. If there is any possibility that you may have a problem (and in today's climate that is pretty much everyone) avoid using Trip Advisor at all costs.

TripAdvisor fraudulently refuses to process our refund. My wife and I booked a vacation for our five-year-old daughter at Tradewinds Resort in St. Pete, Florida for Labor Day Weekend. However, due to Hurricane Ida, we were forced to evacuate to Mississippi and were unable to make the trip on those dates. I contacted Tradewinds and they were extremely helpful. They stated that they would agree to refund our vacation or rebook our room for the following week (our preferred option) at no additional cost. However, as we made the reservation through TripAdvisor, they needed TripAdvisor to simply send an email requesting the refund or postponement of the trip.
TripAdvisor refused to take even this simple step. I spoke to TripAdvisor on numerous occasions. They were rude and they consistently lied about contacting Tradewinds. Specifically, they said they had spoken with Tradewinds management, who the claimed had not yet agreed to a refund, and they stated that they would send an email requesting that our trip be postponed. I spoke to Tradewinds who confirmed that both of these assertions were false. Later TripAdvisor stated that their internal rules prevented them from contacting the resort (a contradiction of the prior statements from TripAdvisor).
TripAdvisor then requested that I obtain written proof that Tradewinds agreed to a no-fault refund due to the effects of Hurricane Ida. Tradewinds graciously provided that to me and I sent written proof of the refund TripAdvisor. Despite that, TripAdvisor continues to fraudulently fail to process our refund. This is an incredibly minor inconvenience compared to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ida to so many people in our region. However, I wanted to share in case people are considering booking with TripAdvisor in the future. They show no empathy for people who are impacted by events such as Ida. To make matters worse, they refuse to process refunds despite the fact that they have received a refund from the resort.

TripAdvisor is an absolute nightmare to deal with. Our business has received just enough fake, false, misleading, or even misplaced (not for our business) reviews to make it difficult if not impossible to operate a small business. TA will just brush you off if you try to contest any of the bad reviews. TA SUCKS! May the people who work there and their families suffer ten-fold the stress and anxiety their company has caused me, my family, my business, and my employees and their families! There is no way to contact these people. We recently had to cancel a booking due to weather conditions and I need to contact the company about a refund which was approved by the business owner, but there is apparently no way to get ahold of them. I have emailed them a couple times to no avail and can't find any other way on their website. Terrible user interface and customer support. I recommend using a better booking site as this one isn't worth the headache.

So I booked a cabin through TripAdvisor back in April, 2 weeks before I set to leave, and 2000 dollars later, the booking is canceled. Trip Advisor is telling me that the owners are no longer booking out the property. What?? So you can't contact them. You may get your money or may not. (Haven't gotten mine yet) and in 15 days I'm going to Tennessee and have nowhere to stay.
Don't go through Trip Advisor unless you want to be extremely stressed out 2 weeks before your vacation as if a vacation with a family of 8 isn't crazy enough. Now I have to find somewhere else, without the 2k I've already spent. Then when you call, you Get no last name, no employee ID, no help, Liz who interrupts you and talks over you. Never again. Thanks for nothing.

For many years I have been what TripAdvisor refers to as a Destination Expert and have over 50,000 post offering information to travelers. Without notice or explanation they have dropped my Destination Expert status and now say I violated guidelines. And very strange charge since I'm constantly subjected to libelous forum posts and insults but forum members that don't agree with my information. When I have complained about this, either no response or very limited response from TripAdvisor. A very unreliable company.

Our family loves reviews on Tripadvisor. We use them all the time for food and stay. Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for TripAdvisorPlus. My wife booked our trip to Puerto Vallarta using them. Without going into all the details, it essentially boiled down to the hotel TripAdvisorPlus booked for us in Puerto Vallarta telling us we did not have a reservation on the day of our flight. We then informed TripAdvisor Plus of their failure to book/properly coordinate a reservation with the hotel, and then quickly made alternative reservations after asking them to cancel the reservation, so our family wouldn't be without shelter on our first night of travel.
About a week later, give or take, TripAdvisor Plus' Customer Service informed us they could not refund us. They stated they could not get the money back from the hotel, and claimed the hotel stated that they found the reservation. To be fair, Customer Service listened to our concerns and appeared to understand our issue that we shouldn't be financially responsible for paying TripAdvisor Plus when the hotel they booked told us they did not have the reservation in our name. However, they failed to refund us. Then we were informed that contacting their Legal Counsel was our only chance at getting a refund. We were told we couldn't email them, only physical mail was allowed. We mailed them and about a month went by with no response. It wasn't until we found a legal department email online that they ever responded.
In that response, Legal Counsel implied we were lying about the whole situation of the hotel not having the reservation. Legal Counsel then proceeded to write it didn't matter if we were telling the truth anyway, because in their contract they are not liable for the actions of third-parties like hotels. In other words, the hotel could have told us all day long they don't have a reservation for us, but TripAdvisorPlus would never have to refund our money, even though we paid TripAdvisor Plus to get us a working hotel reservation. I'm glad to share more about this story or provide an email for anyone who needs to get in touch with TripAdvisor Plus' Legal Counsel. Please contact me at **. Love TripAdvisor, but BEWARE of TripAdvisor Plus.

We booked 2 rooms at the Crown Plaza in Key West through Tripadvisor plus 10 weeks in advance of our trip. Then 3 weeks before our trip, TA+ said they couldn't honor our booking (although rooms are still available) and offered us a substandard alternative. When we asked for another more equitable substitution they said nothing else was available (not true) and offered a refund. Bait and switch followed up with a take it or leave it approach. Being so close to our travel date, we had to book elsewhere at greater expense. Use anyone other than Tripadvisor. The absolute worst customer service experience I have ever had.

I am furious with TripAdvisor. I used this travel platform because they advertise that they will protect our transaction. We booked a vacation rental through TripAdvisor. Travel was for June 2020, in which international travel to the Bahamas was closed so we had to postpone our dates as our flights were canceled due to COVID. We rescheduled our trip to June 2021 via message to the vacation rental host through the TripAdvisor platform. It clearly states on TripAdvisor’s website to message the host if there was no available option on TripAdvisors platform to change the dates. The host assured us that she would change the dates. December 2020 it was determined that several members of our travel party would not be able to meet the travel requirements to travel internationally in June 2021.
We contacted the vacation rental host via TripAdvisor to advise her that we would unfortunately have to cancel our trip. She advised us that because the funds were already dispersed from TripAdvisor to her in June 2020, that she was unable to refund us any of our money. She offered to give us one year to reschedule. But TripAdvisor shows this trip as already traveled because she never updated the dates in TripAdvisor’s platform which is why the money was dispersed to her in June 2020, even though we did not travel.
So TripAdvisor stated because the dates were not changed there is nothing they can do to help us. They are allowing this host to collect money on a trip that was not traveled and now we are expected to trust this person we don’t know to reschedule our trip for a year from now with no documentation through TripAdvisor or otherwise. We are not comfortable accepting her offer to rebook the trip unless we can see the trip as an upcoming trip in TripAdvisor’s platform. We were able to be fully refunded on the flights and car rentals with no issue at all. Other members that we were traveling with were all given full refunds on their rentals. This is very unethical of TripAdvisor allowing this to happen all while taking their “fee” that was paid to protect our booking. As a travel planner I will never use this platform to book clients or my own personal travel.

I booked a a lot of thing in past 10 days through TripAdvisor. However, once booked, it shows the booking was done through Viator. So far so good. Today May 4th, 21, I had a reservation for a jet skiing in Radazul, Canary Islands. I paid for that the day before. It said nonrefundable. Once I went to the address, there is another business there and the owner knew the name of the company I was looking for - "Motos de agua Tenerife", and said they were closed a year ago - out of business. I called the number for Viator and some customer service guy answers and puts me on hold for a while, after which he tells me I had to deal with the business itself and they can't refund me - A BUSINESS WHICH VIATOR ADVERTISES BUT IT DOESN'T EXIST!!!
After I raised my voice he tells me - "...this is your second warning!!!"... WAHAAAT?!?! Can you imagine that?? I gave him a piece of my mind - he heard what he needed to hear and hung up. Called back and some girl answered, after 20 mins of hassle and raising my voice again, she finally agreed to refund the money! Unbelievable!

TripAdvisor deleted my review of a hotel. My response to them: I strongly disagree with your policy. Cancellation policies are a HUGE component in assessing the OVERALL rating of a travel-related business. Airlines have adjusted cancellation policies due to COVID. Hotels and even car rental agencies are DIRECTLY linked to hospitality. COVID has allowed us, as future travelers, an ability to assess the humanity behind a business' policies.
So, if you, as a third-party entrusted to inform travelers with ANY issue directly affecting our decisions, then I will no longer use your site. I need to hear ALL reviews associated with ANYTHING that impacts my trip. Right now, COVID impacts us, so YES, cancellation policies are CRUCIAL to Controlling what a CONFIRMED hotel guest has to say about a hotel promoted on your site must unequivocally be voiced as a legitimate review topic.

I travel frequently for work. I book air tickets through different platforms. I started using TripAdvisor on recent flights and this is my experience: they use third party as many of the others but TripAdvisor’s seems more questionable on the way they charge extra for “apparently” low priced tickets. Extra for standard luggage on intercontinental flights, extra for standard coach seats. The worst part comes when booking on long flights that requires more than one stop. They manage to book you with the same itinerary two or more ticket numbers, forcing you to do a transit exit that requires a transit visa on the connecting airports just to collect your luggage and pass it through immigration again. Awful experience!! DO NOT USE TripAdvisor for booking your air ticket.

I unfortunately had to cancel...over 48 hours in advance, which is perfectly acceptable to the hotel, which they did for me, but I was told to still call tripadvisor to confirm so my credit card would not be charged the FULL amount and the hotel would approve the cancellation, no issues...I have literally been on hold a total of 3 1/2 hours (still am as I am writing this) and no end in sight. When TripAdvisor started reviews had little editorial control currently they decide what is and what isn’t to be included. They give a list of generalizations for not publishing a review which could applied to any review. If for instance you have had a particularly bad experience with a vendor and your review is therefore strongly-worded saying for instance “The Manager was a uncomprehending cretin“ this although true would be grounds for not publishing.
TripAdvisor are the sole arbiters of what can be said under the guise of filtering out unacceptable comment. This is a catch 22 situation. As an IRCA qualified Lead Auditor who has conducted thousands of audits on companies in all sectors large and small I have had “findings” challenged but never a refusal to publish my report. Only TripAdvisor managed this when I made negative comments about a local restaurant/ public house. Within an audit situation the auditee must agree and sign for the nonconformance at the time. With TripAdvisor, the reviews are purely subjective with no proof required. When you appreciate the commercial aspects of Tripadvisor's operation it becomes obvious why they need to control what is said about what and whom. My personal opinion is that fundamentally you should be aware of bias on Tripadvisor's statements about merchants' quality.

We canceled our booking two months in advance solely due to force majeure, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the owner does not believe that the virus exists (or at least is not as much a threat as it truly is), we are aware of the reality of the situation. Several members of our family are at risk for the virus, including my husband, who has a compromised immune system. For the safety of our family, we had to cancel this trip. Not only do we have major concerns regarding the owner's general denial of the virus, but we also have concerns that, if he is not taking the pandemic seriously, how could we possibly be assured that the house is thoroughly sanitized for our stay?
I understand the owner's monetary needs regarding his rentals. And I am also saddened to hear of the loss in his family. However, it is completely inappropriate and unprofessional of him to use his personal loss in order to guilt us into an unfair situation. Although we appreciate TripAdvisor's offer to move the booking date to next year (something the owner never offered initially), we have had such a negative experience with both the owner and TripAdvisor, that we do not want to contract with either of them for another year.
We booked through TripAdvisor but the owner of the vacation rental property only gave a 24-hr money back cancellation. We reserved the property 8 months in advance and got the trip advisor insurance. Who would cancel that far in advance? We gave a substantial deposit over $1,900 and they refuse to give us a penny back. Condos and Village are two completely separate businesses run by two separate boards of directors and do not share any guest rooms.
I made multiple requests to TripAdvisor to remove the mistaken review from the Village account. I supplied both company's Missouri Secretary of State business registration filings, which listed the two separate boards of directors, and conclusively prove the two businesses are completely separate entities. I explained that the Village does not have a unit 142 but the Condos do have a unit 142. I supplied the name of the Condo property manager for verification of my complaint/request and offered a letter from the Condo board of directors to validate my report. All requests to remove the mistaken complaint were denied by Tripadvisor.
I ask Tripadvisor to explain the logic of their refusal to correct what was obviously a similar name confusion mistake. The decision about whether a review will remain posted is exclusively that of TripAdvisor and is final. We cannot offer any further comment on this decision."
Our Village reputation has been damaged unfairly and damage to business reputation always results in long-term loss of income when potential travelers smartly chose not to stay in a property reporting bedbugs. Although TripAdvisor was clear that this particular booking was NO REFUNDS, they were NOT clear about changing the date (they imply with the same booking that you can MAKE A CHANGE or CANCEL, until you check out the fine print, of course). I just called them about a week in advance to ask if I could simply change the date of the booking. Not a refund request; just an unavoidable change in the date itself. Nope! So I'm out $100 for no reason, but it's the principle of the thing. They just lost me as a customer for life. With other travel and entertainment sites around, I recommend you check someone else out. I know I will.

Really awful. I have used that site for a while thinking it was a good platform to express my opinion on places, restaurants, hotels etc. Well it turned out I was wrong. I happened to be to a so called restaurant in Sicily and was treated really badly. I was unhappy with the food, service and treatment and I left a 100% honest review on what happened explaining everything. I got threads and insults from the owners in my personal email inbox. I let the site know about it. And even though my review was initially published and stayed on the site for 2 weeks it got removed!! I tried leaving a new one, but now all of those got rejected. James from support repeats same thing over and over, that they will not tell me why it was removed and can't publish it. I made a conclusion, TripAdvisor gets paid for this. I prefer to give no stars to both TripAdvisor and their counterpart Tringo! I would not recommend doing business with either of these companies, for they do not support their customers in any way. First they took the side of the hotel and failed to even talk to me about the issue. When I brought the lies to their attention then they decided to escalate the case, but not until I provide my evidence. So they failed to hear my side of the situation from the beginning. When they did take another look at the issues at hand they 100% sided with the lies from the hotel management, who at one point would not answer any requests from the beginning of this case, and continued to lie to them.
I would not recommend using either of these two companies for any business. They have no problem taking the customer's money, and they CHOOSE to side with the hotel to ensure they would make a profit! Unreliable and undependable. They are only about making money and they proved that by failing to discuss the issues with me from the beginning. I would recommend using Kayak first!! Save yourself any headaches and go elsewhere!!

NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE WITH TRIPADVISOR: BAD POLICIES THAT ENABLE HOMEOWNERS TO CANCEL LAST MINUTE. TERRIBLE TRAINING OF Customer service. No financial compensation for cancellation during peak time. Five months ago, I booked a holiday rental villa for 18 people through TripAdvisor in Seminyak, Bali for December 26 - January 1. My extended family was coming to Bali during this height of travel season from Europe and North America and we had fully paid the $5,000 rental.
Three weeks before we were all to go to Bali, we received an email from TripAdvisor that the booking had been canceled by the owner, due to the owner having listed the villa with another agency and rented it out to someone else (likely for more money)! TripAdvisor customer service was very difficult to get hold of, emails from TripAdvisor's customer services were often confusing and written in poor English, the alternative suggested rentals they sent us were actually all NOT available, and they made little effort to compensate us for a nightmare experience. Luckily we ended up finding another rental villa through AirBnB, though we had to pay more money.
I will never book a holiday rental through TripAdvisor again. They are just a listing agency and since owners know this, they apparently list their homes on several sites. If TripAdvisor had a clearly policy to prevent owners from double listing, this kind of situation would not happen. Moreover, despite the cost and difficulties we went through trying to find an alternative villa in Bali over New Year for 18 people due to their last-minute cancellation, TripAdvisor gave us NO financial compensation to rectify the situation. One is much better off booking directly on AirBnB or other such sites to prevent such a nightmare experience!

Avoid TripAdvisor. They have very little skill when it comes to helping with issues. I waiting on a return phone call after a small issue mentioned required a cancellation. Getting my money back proved very difficult. I was disgusted that after booking, they put every obstacle in the way preventing you talking to the owner, so you can find out detailed information about his/her property. I tried to cancel, but due to their policy I was to be charged €400 for nothing. This was after finally finding a way to communicate with the owner directly and finding his place wasn't quite suitable for our special trip. Now my issue was, if I had been able to discuss properly with the owner. This would never have got to this awful situation. I enjoy eventually found a way to contact customer service to be told, my cancellation was fine and I would receive a phone call back the next day. I waited. No phone call!!
So after receiving a message from owner agreeing my cancellation, I again contacted customer service after no phone call Al the following day. I was told they hadn't managed to speak with the owner yet, even though I had a message through the TripAdvisor site at 07.20 am that morning advising me he was happy to accept cancellation. So again I was told I would receive a phone call. Well guess what? You've got it. NO PHONE CALL. So I contacted the owner to find he also had been promised a call and like me was still waiting, not only that he was told his rating would go down and would be charged a £100. Let's see now for £100 what have they done. Well to be frank NOTHING AT ALL, NOT EVEN A SIMPLE COURTESY PHONE CALL. After still no phone call and no refund I called again to TripAdvisor.
I managed at least I thought, to speak to a supervisor within TripAdvisor customer service call Sana, who also told me they hadn't contacted the owner yet. So after a few angry words, I told them I was disgusted with their customer service and to be charging anyone was out of order after doing NOTHING NOT EVEN A RETURN PHONE CALL even to the extent of putting the blame on the owner. So I asked them kindly to contact the owner and hopefully sort this situation out and get my refund actioned, Sana promised this would happen and she would contact the owner herself. You guessed it NO CALL to EITHER OF US. My refund has now taken over a week and I'm still awaiting my money.
The owner is £100 DISGUSTINGLY OUT of pocket as they have already taken his money. Yet still no phone call after a number of promises. Absolutely disgraceful service and taking money for doing nothing is worse than stealing. Just so you are all aware the time scale for me canceling was around 1 day. Not weeks or months. 1 single day and wanting to charge me €400 is a scam and taking the poor owner's money and making threats to him is totally unacceptable. One angry disgusted customer. In thinking about it, I realize many companies regularly respond with apologies, noting that your next stay will be better. It is an easy way to look good without actually doing anything. This is a game that TripAdvisor is helping to perpetuate by not pushing the supplier of the goods or service to prove or show that it has done something. Both my friend and I have written multiple negative reviews, from our separate accounts, and TripAdvisor never publishes them. We write our reviews at least once a month, changing the wordings but still giving the terrible review Wild Child Gallery deserves.
Our treatment by the staff at Wild Child Gallery was so terrible we cannot we over it and want to tell others, especially in a town packed with great and friendly people. In TripAdvisor the business has 33 excellent reviews!!! In other sites like Yelp, for example, the same Wild Child Gallery, in Matlacha, Florida has multiple terrible reviews with many people that experienced the same rude treatment we received. TripAdvisor is not a reliable source. The same business with poor to terrible reviews everywhere else is excellent there? Why? Does TripAdvisor accept payments from bad businesses like Wild Child Gallery to delete negative reviews? It is definitely biased.

TripAdvisor allows non-vetted booking companies take your money for hotel and resort stays without making sure that money gets paid to the resort. We prepaid for our stay at a resort in the Dominican Republic through TA booking consolidator who sent us a bogus prepaid voucher. The hotel did not accept it, said they never received payment and forced us to repay the entire hotel stay again or they wouldn’t allow us to leave the property!! We spent over two hours at the front desk being treated like criminals at the resort (Excellence Punta Cana), missed our flight and are now stuck in the Dominican Republic with no way to get home. I made a hotel booking for three nights in Budapest in June 2018 through TripAdvisor. The hotel was selected based on its proximity to the train station. The booking went through and came back with a confirmation number. Obviously the full amount was charged. Everything looked fine at this point. After a long train ride and late in the evening, I arrived at the hotel to check in and was told that I needed to go another hotel nearby at my expenses. After a few minutes of discussion they decided to call a taxi for me but the nearby hotel was far away (30 minutes by taxi) and the hotel quality was awful though they claimed of the same level. Now I am back home and reported this to TripAdvisor and they replied saying this is a common practice: a confirmed booking doesn't mean actually confirmed (my interpretation). To my fellow travelers, just be careful when making bookings online.

I recently booked 40 acre Rustic Luxury Private Hideaway - Newly renovated. Listed Nov 2017 at Yosemite National Park from TripAdvisor. They offer a Payment Protection Plan if you book and pay through their website. The protection is stated to kick in if you cannot access the property. We could not go to this rental because of the Ferguson Fire. The retreat was in an evacuation advisory zone, roads were closed, and air quality alerts were issued. We asked for a refund, as we were already across the country, and would need to book and pay for hotel rooms to accommodate my family for the three days we couldn’t access the retreat. TripAdvisor was powerless to help us negotiate even a partial refund. According to them, it was all up to the owner. I fail to see what the Payment Protection Plan means if it couldn’t help us in this situation.

I researched for a couple of weeks and finally figure out that it was handled by a 3rd or 4th party, and truly had nothing to do with Trip Advisor! I was charged the full amount (for the entire vacation that is 7 months away) on my credit card, the name on the statement was nothing recognizable.
I panicked, made a bunch of phone calls and was finally able to find the actual company that booked the vacation. I called 3 companies (that I was directed to) before I found the one that actually was involved. They told me they'd refund me everything but $170. After much arguing, I got them to refund the entire amount. I will never again use TripAdvisor website for anything. I don't think it's a good way to do business. The woman at the desk told me, "Sometimes you have to jiggle the handle and lift it up." I refused. She gave us another room, no air conditioning. No linens. No pillows. I had 3 rooms reserved for 2 nights. We had a total of 15 people with reservations. The rooms were filthy, candy wrappers were behind a curtain, the bed skirt had some unidentifiable crud on it. There were mouse traps in one of the rooms. The soap in the bathroom was used, there was hair all over the bathroom, in the tub and on the floor. We had no shower curtain. I offered to hang it myself, but they didn't have one.
We had no linens/blankets. All 3 rooms had a pull out bed, no linens provided. Our room had 1 pillow. We had 7 pillows for 15 people. I asked for more pillows. Was told they didn't have any. The woman offered to let me go in another room and take pillows from there. My nephew rolled up a hoodie and slept on that. The air conditioning only worked in 1 room. 2 rooms did not have coffee makers. The one room with a coffee maker had a bug in the pot, no coffee filters. We had no towels. We asked for more and we were told they didn't have any. Breakfast buffet empty at 9:00. No plates and no coffee. The woman working breakfast was just sitting at a table.
Front desk staff rude, hung up on us when we called them. Would not escalate our issues to manager. Pool was closed because 'it might rain.' Pool was supposed to be heated, it was not. Kitchen area empty. Few if any dishes, no dish soap. Wi-fi awful. Couldn't keep a signal. The grounds are overgrown with far a few everywhere. We went to the office Saturday to resolve some issues, we were told everything would be fixed while we were out. We would have left, But they said they would fix everything. When we came back, nothing was changed. It was too late to go anywhere else. I filed a complaint with the BBB, manager said everything was exaggerated.

I have never been the one who relied heavily on reviews and review sites like TripAdvisor. Still, I created an account and used it for a two whole reviews. One of them was for my workplace at the time and the other one was for a friend's business. I meant what I published and wanted to support these places. Yet, technically these were biased reviews, yet they were published.
A few days ago I went to a Mexican diner that was around the corner from my flat. I haven’t been there for a while as even though the food was actually decent I always questioned their hygiene and the service was slow. Never bothered to review or leave any negative comments. Yet I fancied a burrito and it was the closest place so I compromised. To my surprise it was under new management. The place was squeaky clean, extremely friendly and pleasant service was provided. Hell, I even got some complimentary tequilas. Not as a bribe just as a friendly gesture.
As I wanted to show support for the team I decided to share my thoughts and write my first genuine review. So I did, only to receive an email from the TripAdvisor team, notifying me that the review won’t be published as it does not meet their guidelines and standards. They wrote the standard reasons i.e. I can’t have any relation/ownership etc to the place nor there should be any blackmailing attempts.
I am just mesmerized by the fact of how many people rely on this site for pre-judging places and making their decisions on whether to book/eat/stay etc at places. There are many people who make their money from creating false accusations and leaving made up reviews. We frequently received comments and grades at my old workplace (which I reviewed) that had nothing to do with the food, service quality or anything we should have been graded upon. PLEASE STOP THESE FREAKING NONSENSE OF WEBSITES AND GO AND EXPERIENCE PLACES THEN MAKE UP YOUR MIND ABOUT IT!!! Pick places that suits your budget, don’t expect more than you bargained for, have some common sense and enjoy the country you’re visiting. Stay safe and wear a condom.

So I tried to ask, what does one do or get with all these points, after over 205 reviews, maybe something. Well, you try and contact them, impossible, all I want to know was this simple question, what are the points for!
I began to realise that they had no interest in having any contact with me, in the end I found a forum and asked the question, whoever replied told me that I was wasting my time, they are not interested in dealing with people and those points are just a sort of bump up to keep people happy. They told me I was wasting my time, since then TripAdvisor has never again sent me an e-mail asking or telling me to write more, was just cut off, never a thank you for all those reviews. So today I ignore any adverts I see relating to them and do now realise we are all just USED.

TripAdvisor has gone downhill in recent years. The major issue is that since having entered the competitive market of booking hotels, how can they at-the-same-time also rate/compare hotels? This is a clear conflict of interest. There are other serious issues: It is not possible to contact them - if it was I would send them a copy of this. For example, how can incorrect information be rectified? Or if they somehow decide (in error) that you are an owner or have an interest of an establishment (which I experienced), there is nothing one can do.
Reviews for a certain location accumulate for too long a period of time so the “currency” of the review becomes meaningless. Even if a restaurant changes hands, for example, like from an independent owner to a chain - the review stats keep accumulating. That makes no sense. I appreciate the dilemma of fake reviews “for hire”, but I have had too many honest reviews rejected so that I’ve almost given up sending reviews. There must be a better way to screen reviews, but it appears they don’t care.
There is no reasonable attempt at categorization. For example, all inclusive resorts are included with hotels which may not even have a restaurant. It seems to me that various “screens” would be more helpful. I could go on, but why bother when TripAdvisor seems to have become more interested in being a booking agent. I guess I will join the ranks of those who “use” TripAdvisor less and less with the passage of time, as they have lost their way in doing what was their primary purpose and excelled in - it’s too sad!!

We arrived at Villa Lion 1 in Broward County in Fort Lauderdale on the 7th April 2018, late afternoon, and due to stay until the 13th April. The owner sent us a code to enter the property, we never had the pleasure of meeting Taylor. The issues, firstly the accomadation quite clearly hadn't been maintained and wasn't clean, the stair banister was broken and parts missing, electrical plug socket broken, the blinds in the bedroom were broken, the air conditioning upstairs didn't work and taped up and the owner forgot to mention that it's directly over a flight path, so the house literally shook every 10 minutes. It was getting late and decided to tackle the owner and the agent in the morning.
We ate at the accommodation and put all the soiled plates into the dishwasher and switched it on, after 5 minutes water was leaking all over the floor, so we had to switch it off, we went to bed, our daughters bed linen were stained and smelled and quite clearly hadn't been washed. The airplane take offs went on until 23:30 and started again at 6:30 AM. This wasn't how we wanted to spend our vacation.
We contacted Taylor by email to air our grievances and contacted TripAdvisor who we booked the accommodation with. The TripAdvisor agent said we would have to take it up with the owner. When Taylor finally responded, he blamed the last occupants who must have caused the damage, and would get the linen changed, but in his reply also said it had been cleaned. We did take pictures to say otherwise and a video of the airplane noise from the bedroom. And looking at some of the recent reviews, people complaining about bed bugs and dirty linen, we asked for a partial refund as this accommodation wasn't as advertised. In our opinion there were safety issues and the noise from the airplanes passing overhead was unbearable. We also asked the TripAdvisor agent for advice, we heard nothing from either. We decided to look for alternative accomadation.
We sent an email advising that we weren't staying to Taylor and TripAdvisor, we have not had a response from Taylor, but he's got the cheek to charge us $145 for cleaning and all the taxes and the full rental, but we did received an apology from TripAdvisor but they are unable to help or do anything, and to contact the owner regarding any refund. In December 2017, I booked a vacation rental on TripAdvisor for a property in Davao City, Philippines for May 23 through June 6, 2018. My booking number is **. I contacted the owner of the property via TA messenger on April 7, 2018 and asked if it would be possible to change. The owner said that to go ahead and make those changes because she didn't know how to change them on her end. TripAdvisor has nothing on their website about changing dates on your booking. The only thing that is said is that I will lose my deposit if I cancel. No guidance from the owner nor TripAdvisor.
After a couple of hours of searching for info, we had decided that it was not worth the risk of losing our deposit so we decided to keep the booking. It was then that the owner sent me a message that she booked the property for some of the nights that we booked. The owner seemed apologetic and wanted me to keep the booking for the whole 14 days and she said that she would reimburse me out of her own pocket for some days of the trip. My wife and I did not feel confident with the owner. We didn't want to give her more money and cause further damages, so we appealed to TA to allow us to cancel the whole trip and book with another TA property listed. They would not allow us. They said that it was up to the owner and the owner would not agree to allow us to cancel (what TA said), TripAdvisor nor the owner were any help at all. The response from TA that they would move the call up the ladder.
Every time I would call back (at least 10 calls in the past 8 days) I had to repeat my entire story to them every time I called instead of TA looking at their notes. I concluded that this was a business strategy because wanted you to say something inconsistent with the notes, so they may dispute our story. I got this from at least 10 calls to them.
In a nutshell, BUYER BEWARE, because it appears by my communication with TA and that they demonstrated that the owners are a more valued customer than renters because obviously the value of the owners to their business plan is larger than that the value of a single customer. I booked the rest of my vacation with AirBNB and I would recommend that others do the same, unless you have money to burn. After all that was said and done, I had to book with this owner or lose my deposit so I booked for only 4 days (we will probably book another accommodations for those dates) and my CC was overcharged and now I have to fight with TA some more. It has been a nightmare.

As a hotel and restaurant business owner, we know you're unable to please every customer every time, and on the odd occasion we may get a below average review posted on that most awful site TRIPADVISOR. We do not subscribe or deal with TA in anyway apart from customer reviews, and like a lot of posts on here TA is a law to themselves, one 500 word reply to put your point across to TA in the management centre and if they don't remove the review it's then blocked out and their decision is final? One review was that far out of their own guidelines they removed it, customer then re-posted it word for word, they removed again, it was re-posted word for word a 3rd time, and now TA refuse to remove it? Nice constancy TA!!
There is no contact email or number unless you sign up at a cost of over £600 per year? apart from this one UK number (+44 0203 885 0007) Customer service is? Well there is none? An automated email telling you their decision is final? Worst company I have ever had to deal within 25 years of running a business, I'm totally at a loss trying to deal with this company and unfortunately the sooner they close the doors the better as the platform seems to be more for venting rage rather than unbiased review. REMEMBER TRIPADVISOR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY THEIR DECISION IS FINAL!!! WOULD BE A MINUS 5 STAR RATING IF POSSIBLE.

Basically their travel insurance (Expedia Travel Insurance/Waiver) is bogus. Do not pay for it. You can only make one change to your trip. They will not refund money based upon your original reservation. They make you cancel your original reservation and reserve again at a higher rate. Their insurance will not cover any increase in hotel rate based on the change, even if you are deleting one night of your reservation. Insurance? Not!!!

I was not able to leave the review under the home because the owner removed it. Through the TripAdvisor website, my family rented a property from 3/24/18 thru 4/2/18. TripAdvisor and the property owner both greatly MIS-REPRESENTED the home, as well as the property grounds itself. The property was listed to be in Rosarito, Mexico and it was actually located in Popotla, Mexico. The house was disgustingly filthy upon our arrival. There were feces running down the side of the toilet (gross!!), the bed linens nor the towels were clean. The entire house was filthy dirty: floors, counters, tables, etc. I had to clean the entire house myself before we could even settle in, which I was NOT happy about, to say the least!
I did contact TripAdvisor right away to inform them of the problem and they stated they were going to attempt to contact the owner and resolve the problem for me. Besides the house being dirty, all the cabinets were locked except one, which had someone’s clothes and shoes inside of it, and the refrigerator was full of food. My family had to live for an entire week out of our suitcases and bags, as there was nowhere to put our clothes due to everything being locked up. From the locked cabinets and the refrigerator full of food, it appears that someone lives there. The listing advertised Tennis Court and a Pool also. The pool was also filthy dirty, nothing I would ever allow my children to swim in! I had to pay extra money to take my family to another pool because everyone was looking forward to swimming at the house we rented! The Tennis Court did not have an entrance, only a hole in the gate to be able to access it thru!
The only reason we stayed the entire week was because we met with family from Mexico and no one could afford to just up and leave and rent another place to stay. When you are traveling from far and meeting up with people, it is not just that easy to go find another place at such short notice. TripAdvisor was all for helping me rectify the situation and get some of my money back. However, once we checked out, the property owner LIED about several things just so we would not be able to receive any kind of refund. The owner claimed that we had extra people there than the 10 we were allowed, which was NOT true. Once he saw the pictures I took, the owner also claimed that he was not satisfied with how the house looked upon our arrival, stated that the cleaning company was different from the one he normally uses, and he CLAIMS that he offered to send out a different cleaning company the following day, which was a complete LIE.
Not to mention, the house had to be cleaned immediately or my family and I would not have been able to even sleep there, as it was a disgusting mess! Now that the owner has said his lies and claims that he can’t refund me because we stayed the entire time (which we really had no choice), TripAdvisor all of a sudden has told me there is nothing they can do for me and is now ignoring any communication from me. TripAdvisor obviously cares more about their fraudulent property owners more than it does their consumers. I will NEVER use TripAdvisor again and I suggest anyone who is using their services to think twice or to at least research the actual property on their own before going through with the rental agreement.
In the event of a problem with your rental, TripAdvisor will ACT like they are going to help you, but from my experience that was all just a show. They CLAIMED they would work things out with the owner and get me some kind of refund on the money I paid for the house, but they did not hold up to their word. I am THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED with this experience with TripAdvisor. This was my first and LAST time I book with TripAdvisor.

I must admit I have never booked any hotels or trips on TA, but always relied on them for the reviews. The first time I cancelled my account being level 6 was when refused to publish my review of a certain hotel in Panama that was the end of the world. I tried 3 times to publish what I thought, but those guidelines of them nobody really understands prevented me from doing so. It was about 5 years ago. About 2 years later I reconsidered and recreated an account and got to level 7, until my last trip to Uruguay staying in a hotel that was the most complete disaster. My review at first was published but after some weeks just vanished. Then again I cancelled my account and even sorry for all the good reviews I had published, the situation with that hotel in Montevideo was more than annoying. Detail... My first problem with TA in Panama I had had over 20 nights in that hotel and this time in Montevideo I booked a superior suite for 25 nights.
It comes to the fact anyone can publish anything, but it looks like the hotels can have those reviews removed and it’s my a game I want to play. If I stayed one or two nights in a place, I would refrain from reviewing because there is no time to feel the place. But as I usually stay always over three weeks, I guess what I have to say should be heard. Like I said, I tried TA twice but there won’t be a third time and on both occasions I told them if they want to side with the hotels... they can just do it, but I just want to be out! For me things must be serious and I don’t think TA is, because between choosing a paying customer who did not book with them and a hotel they directly sell to... They will pick the hotel, as bad as it can be. That’s my opinion!

I was reserving 3 airline tickets through TripAdvisor with total ($470), while booking their web page showed a message "Free Cancellation within 24 hours". I paid the amount but then realized that there is a mistake on my return flights. Since TripAdvisor referred me to their "partners" (First Travel), I called them ten minutes after my payment and asked to cancel my booking; surprisingly, they replied that there is a charge of $75 per ticket ($225) and they will refund the balance through several settlements within 2 weeks.
I emailed TripAdvisor to complain the case, they told me this is not from us this is from our partner "kindly communicate with the partner". I told them their partner is a third party for me and that their web page showed the 24 hours free cancellation and they have to take responsibility. They emailed me back saying that they can't do anything and if I have any proves that their web page says 24 hour cancellation to email back to them. I checked their web page again to print screen the 24 free cancellation to find that they have removed this message. I am kindly seeking any type of support in this matter.

We would give them no stars if possible! We had our condo in Mexico listed on TripAdvisor and for a measly 2 week rental they wanted to charge the prospective client almost $700 US in fees! And they don't say what you get for those ridiculous fees. And if you try to even hint to the client you can be found on lower or "no fee" sites they block any communication. We have pulled our property from their site. We get plenty of referrals from other sites. Don't List Your Property on TripAdvisor!

Booked a trip (condo) in February 2018 in Chestertown, NY through TripAdvisor website. The quote for the trip was shown as TOTAL PRICE (NO BREAK IN PRICE -- tax fee, cleaning fee or security deposit). E-mailed the owner of condo and asked if the security deposit was already included in price or not. Owner replied "yes, it is already in the quote, and TripAdvisor handles the security deposit and it will be return during 10 days after the trip". I booked the property.
At the end of March I e-mailed the owner because I did not see the refund of the security deposit. First time he e-mailed me and wrote that security deposit was returned. I wrote back "I don't see refund on my credit card statement". Few days later he e-mailed me again and said that he talked to the TripAdvisor representative who told him that THE QUOTE DID NOT INCLUDE SECURITY DEPOSIT. TOO MUCH CONFUSION. I travel a lot, but first time used TripAdvisor and it was my last time.

Impossible to reach by phone as they do not publish a number on their site or in return emails. Commissions are 15%!!! The customer service are from a foreign country. Totally difficult to deal with. They immediately blocked me when I refused to pay 150.00. Good riddance. I am rated 5 stars for my Highland Cottage rental and commissions through Airbnb and HomeAway are much less with way better customer care.

I Booked a placed through them and the owner of the house denied my request due to too many people, he agreed to refund all my money even though his policy said no so he was great. He stated it wasn't an actual booking due to him denying it to too many people. His house did not accommodate that. TripAdvisor refused to give me all my money. Said they would prorate if I booked through them. They kept 188 dollars of mine and refuse to give it back as a so called booking fee.
How did I book anything if it was denied? I have asked this question probably 100 times. No one will call me back nor email me anymore. I have called several time. Promised a call back by a supervisor and never called back as well as emailed them. And yet nothing. I will never ever look at their site nor will I recommend anyone using their site. They also charged me to transfer my money from American US dollars to British pounds. How rude!!! Please don't book through them. They are nothing but money stealing people.

Booked two tours for Barcelona Spain - did not receive email confirmation - credit card was charged $400 for both tours. Did not know where to pickup point was for first tour. TripAdvisor site said 24/7 support - only contact was phone number to call from US - did have friend call - was on hold 45 minutes. Finally read reviews of tour which gave name of third party tour company who ran tour - contacted them - Explore Catalina - they were great - responded in 7 hours - confirmed our reservation and provided directions where to meet. TripAdvisor does not do enough for customer - they could provide FAQ for customers if they do not want to provide customer service - they said in one online post "how can we be expected to provide customer service with so many customers booking”. Well they won’t need to provide any customer service to me - because I will not book via them in the future.

I own a vacation rental at The Sand Dollar resort in Indian Shores Florida. This is the worst place to advertise and to make any reservation. I pay a very high advertisement fee a year. Of that they charge the HIGHEST SERVICE FEE, on top. To secure a reservation the traveler is charged an average of $200 per week (for no additional services) which I normally provide, inflating the weekly rental fee.
In addition they block personal contact information (phone numbers and email address) from the guests and the owner. Even after the reservation is secure this information is withheld until about 90 days prior to their arrival, limiting communications between parties. Threatening to block your listing. This practice should be illegal, I'm shock that they are allow to continue this practice. I will not subject my guests to this, As a Vacation Rental Owner for the last 14 years I will stop advertising in this site as soon as my listing expires, and I hope action is taken against this company.

TripAdvisor is a free site onto which customers post comments. Essentially, it is the "YELP" of places and hospitality. Some reviews are helpful, others are simply brown-nosing or outright complaints. However, the overall picture made by those reviews is relatively accurate. I've traveled coast to coast in the US and around the world, and TripAdvisor is useful, if for nothing else to get fairly accurate photos and blunt comments about places, hotels, and restaurants.
