I booked a hotel room early morning. An hour later my kids woke up and one of them was sick. We decided to cancel our trip to Maryville Indiana Hilton Garden Inn. After calling to cancel they told us my refund was nonrefundable. So within less than two hours. I lost $250.

I purchased a Tripadvisor Plus membership in order to get a discounted hotel rate through their site. Free cancellation was available before a certain date. A few days later, I decided to stay somewhere else and cancel my Plus membership in addition to the hotel stay. The Plus membership ($99) was refunded promptly. However, the hotel stay (about $1000) was never refunded to my credit card. The Tripadvisor cancellation confirmation email states "If you don’t see your refund in 5-7 business days, please contact your bank for more information." I call my credit card company and they said to wait another week. I did. Still no refund. I now have to open a dispute for this charge. Such unnecessary hassle for something that other hotels can do seamlessly with no problems.

This review is for the Island Tour of Martha's Vineyard, by Viator/TripAdvisor. The morning of the Trip, I came down with a bad stomach bug, weakness, headaches...Wasn't sure if I had Covid-19. Since we had Pre-booked this tour several weeks ago, our card was already charged, 48 hrs prior to the Trip. I promptly contacted Trip Advisor, thru Viator & explained my situation with being ill. I told them it's possible I may have Covid, but wasn't sure. They came back to me later & refused to work with me to refund the Trip, citing the 24 hr cancelation policy. I told them I found this to be unprofessional to not work with me on this refund (amt is $108, no small figure), especially since we're still in the Pandemic & almost every travel operator out there is willing to work with you. Not these guys. A hard "we're sorry, you're out of luck", was their final answer.

Bottom line recommendation- I would not recommend pre- booking your trip using TripAdvisor/Viator..If you need to make a change, even due to Covid illness last minute, they will NOT work with you. Wait until you get here or book directly with your operator. Never again will I Use Viator for a booking.

Purchased tickets in advance for S.E.A. World on Sentosa Island in Singapore. Once there the link to download the tickets never worked. The customer service at S.E.A World even tried to get the link to work but couldn't. Had to buy tickets again from the vendor. Once back in the states reached out to TripAdvisor and was told," Sorry about your luck but you're on your own, no refund from us." Never use this company!

I will continue to shade Trip Advisor on every review platform I can. Stop emailing me. I have unsubscribed multiple times. Every time I see an email in my inbox from this company, I will unsubscribe again and find somewhere else to put them on blast. I really don’t want to change my email address but if I keep getting harassed by Trip Advisor I might. It’s pushy, annoying, and even if I did decide to use their product, it seems that sucks too. Bunch of predatory cheese balls. Stay out of my inbox.

In Florida visiting my daughter, had an event for 5/27. My daughter got sick so had to cancel. With TripAdvisor you lose your entire payment if not canceled at least 24 hrs in advance. But if you deal with the vendor directly they will either give you a credit or a total refund. TripAdvisor is a good search engine to find out about attractions in the area, but you are now WARNED, DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THEM.

TripAdvisor works scamming in the hand of scammers and frauds. I warned them that a hotel in the Philippines is closed and they didn't poster my post. So this person can easily continue his scam activities.. I've someone warn you you better take action instead doing nothing. Stupid morons.

I have a short term rental and decided to try the new service TripAdvisor offers. I had a booking, and due to an honest mistake, both me and guest needed to cancel within hours of the reservation. Trip Advisor charged me $199 for the cancellation. Worse, they said on the phone it will be $100, but then charged me $199. Horrible, petty service.

Tripadvisor readers beware: Tripadvisor is being dishonest in misrepresenting the Downtown Inn, Wenatchee WA. Trip Advisor kept all the terrible reviews about what used to be a Rodeway Inn and then they simply changed the name to Downtown Inn so the new ownership is unfairly carrying all this negative baggage about the old business which was discontinued under the Rodeway brand. In fact this property is not only under new ownership but has all new mgmt; all new office staff; many updates...and counting, and the property was rebranded and is operating independently as the Downtown Inn. If Trip Advisor is listening please don't slander this new business with the baggage of the old business. Either change the name back to Rodeway, or update the data to reflect the start of this new business so your viewers are getting accurate info. Any please give your guests a phone number they can actually use to reach someone on your website.

I had lunch here on Saturday 16th April and the service was pathetic and they charged a surcharge of 25% for the public holiday. This is unbelievable and it is the Saturday of Easter which isn't even a public holiday. How do they get away with charging 25% surcharge!!!!

I have been using TripAdvisor for many years to book vacations and have never had an issue. It is well known and trusted. Yesterday, I went on TripAdvisor to book a hotel in Spain. I booked a room for one night thru a company I had never heard of. Traveluro. It took a reservation one year out and it was a decent price. It said it was fully refundable, something I require to book in advance. Traveluro took the payment immediately, which was weird because when they give you a certain date to cancel by they generally don’t take the payment until that date. Then I received an email that gave details of the reservation that said it was partially refundable. That was the second warning flag. I Googled Traveluro and it is all over the internet that it is a scam company. They won’t give refunds. Reservations are not honored, etc.

I immediately called TripAdvisor and they told me it was my problem. That it didn’t involve them. I'M SORRY BUT IT DOES INVOLVE TRIPADVISOR!!! I was on their platform and they have a responsibility to do due diligence on the companies they are recommending!! I won’t use TripAdvisor again and I will do what I can to make sure everyone knows!

I purchased TripAdvisor plus when I booked a trip through TripAdvisor. I did not use the service again and forgot all about it. I don’t even know what it did for me to begin with. I forgot all about it until one year later when the subscription renewed. I received notification that my card was charged the 99$ fee. I immediately (less than 24 hours) called to cancel as I do not use, need, or want this service. I was shocked when they would not cancel and credit my account. They were quite rude about it and said, “You read it when you signed the terms and conditions” and that they’d sent me a 30-day “notification email”.

After hearing about this email - I searched for and saw that they did send had gone unopened because the subject line makes no mention of subscription fees and looks like JUNK mail. I thought I was just more junk mail from them—Who reads junk mail? They were again - quite rude about it and said that sending the email was enough - they did their bit - if I saw it or not. They did not care. They sent it. They then basically told me - good luck getting your money back when I told them that I was going to have my bank reverse the charges. I was truly gobsmacked by this policy. I think it is VERY shady.

I read one of their earnings calls where the Founder and, now ex, CEO said (paraphrasing)…that they have 1 million TripAdvisor plus subscribers… and that at 100$ each that adds up! I would ask —is that how you have to run your business for your shareholders…grifting money from subscribers? It’s like a dirty, almost illegal/ should be illegal direct-marketing scheme. That is what it feels like to be on the other end of your business model.

I subscribed last April 2021. Used it once. They send emails daily and I don't read them all as it's promoting deals. They said they send reminders but again you get so many emails from them who reads them all? I received notice they charged my credit card so I went to cancel and you can't! They won't prorate and it's only 2 days after billing?

Do not even consider doing any type of business with this company. They are thieves. They will auto renew your Tripadvisor Plus membership. I called the same day it was renewed and explained that I had the service for the first year and didn’t use it once so it made no sense to renew it. They were incapable of refunding the renewed $100 membership. Absolute thieves. Don’t be a victim like me. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES.

Purchased 4 admissions to the Burj Kalifa, on vaca in Dubai, Was charged for them and sent a QR code to get in. Did not did not did not work. 3 Burj Khalifa staff took One Hour one hour of our time and still couldn't figure out how Tripadvisor messed up. I called Tripadvisor, no real person answered. Had to buy 4 more tickets. Of 1000 bookings a few will go wrong. Do you want your vacation smacked down because of events like this? Stay away and book your events elsewhere.

Member since years ago and my reviews never had a problem to be published. Suddenly, every time I write a review, TripAdvisor does not publish it and does not provide any reason. I feel that they are bias and only publish what they want — making all published reviews unreliable.

I’ve always used TripAdvisor and found the site dependable. Then I joined the TripAdvisor Plus. When my subscription renewed I realized I was no longer interested, but even though I tried to cancel on the day it renewed, I was told I could not renew nor get a refund. No reason was given and I even had a customer service person hang up on me. This is the kind of experience that sours people on a company. I will no longer use this service.

The website directed my reservation to the wrong hotel. I did not catch this until I saw the confirmation page. I called immediately to fix the error, but was told that customer service could not do that from their end. They advised me to cancel the first reservation through my bankcard. After I did that, TripAdvisor refused to provide the refund.

Talk about anxiety. Trying to find a place for 7 people one day before our trip. They offered me two options (one was too small) and the other was 3x the cost. They collected the fee from the canceling party and provided me not additional assistance. I would not trust Trip Advisor to treat you right. This could have happened when I was in route to Hawaii and I would have been without lodging. Thankfully I found something with VRBO.

Hi TripAdvisor,

I am one of your owners. Your site just kept loading for 2 days now. I can't and don't know how to reach out to your team to ask what is going on? Fix your site please, it is interrupting our business.

Trip Advisor is the most reliable and trustworthy website to go to. They publish positive and negative reviews without bias. Most reviewers go into great detail and give useful tips about things to be sure to do or not do, in's and outs that only a previous visitor would have found out about. Good tips on which rooms are better.

You can tell the reviews are fake! I have re-written my review of Ibis Hotel London 4 times to fit their guidelines exactly. The hotel keeps flagging my review and the TripAdvisor keeps deleting it for no reason. Just a claim "I didn't follow their guidelines". I can't trust any review on their site, if they will just delete anything a company doesn't like to hear. They are only out to please the businesses they promote. They have no integrity or values. They will delete any real reviews from real people. I wouldn't trust a thing said on their site!!

It's a good travel site, we have used them quite a bit over the last few years. Unfortunately, we have noticed they tend to lean towards large name brand restaurants. When we look around small towns, we have noticed that many excellent restaurants, bars or hotels aren't even mentioned! TA needs to do a better job at reflecting small bus as well.

Me and my wife were taking a vacation, we haven't been on one together for 21 years of our own planning due to special needs pets. So we booked a vacation to New Orleans. We decided to go on Christmas Day. We seen a Paddle Wheel Dinner Cruise on the Mississippi River, we thought, "Wow. What nice way to have our Christmas dinner." So I booked the cruise through TripAdvisor back in July.

Christmas day came. We get on our flight. Have just enough time to get there at 7:00 pm to get on the boat and have a nice Christmas dinner. We get to the boat and it is deserted. Nobody and I mean nobody was around. Contacted the Paddle Wheel boat people and they informed us there was never any Christmas dinner cruise. So we walked 12 blocks to our hotel stopping at any restaurant to have dinner, all closed or 2 to 3 hour wait times or most have reservations. We finally find of all places a Dave & Buster's that was open. Thanks for ruining our first vacation in 21 years and our Christmas of 2021 as if the last couple of years have been so spectacular for everyone.

This was my first experience using TripAdvisor, booked the vacation rental, payment was pending, the manager called us and answered our questions, and even said the reservation was going to be approved. But after 24 hours TRIPADVISOR rejected the payment. We booked directly with the management company and save almost $300.00. TRIP ADVISOR's messaging system is inefficient, and act as a virtual system. I communicated as instructed and provided all relevant details they asked for. Now I cannot even access my account. It has been disabled. Not worth it. Try and find properties that list the management company and work with them.

TripAdvisor's comments policy is completely inexplicable. A traveler lost a necklace on a Galapagos cruise and claims it was stolen, but he is not sure about it. TA left the comment online after I submitted proof that he is not sure about it. Indeed, he mentions another "stolen watch" when this item was actually found by its owner! The company does not really care whether comments are accurate or not. They only want to increase the number of comments on their platform to say that lots of travelers use it! This makes the platform unreliable as anybody can post a negative comment about anything! Do not trust Trip Advisor for your trips. Diego.

I’m looking for an all inclusive vacation for my 40th wedding anniversary but wanted to talk to customer service. I call the 800 number and immediately get the computerized run around:

Listen to listing pick one number that sounds closest
Listen to 2nd listing pick next one that sounds closest
Listen to 3rd listing pick one that sounds closest
Get to final listing and get hung up on

Repeat with different choices

Finally get through to a human after waiting an additional 5 minutes. GET A REP WITH A SW ASIAN ACCENT SO THICK IT'S ALMOST INCOMPREHENSIBLE. I hang up on him. I’m going to try Travelocity, Trip Advisor you just lost out on a about a $5000 deal.

I showed up at my hotel, and the hotel didn't have the booking I made on TripAdvisor, so I made a new booking through the hotel, and the next day tried to cancel my booking with Tripadvisor. I was told My booking was made for March of the next year. It was their word vs. my memory of booking it. Even though the booking wasn't for months they told me it was non-refundable and wouldn't work with me at all. It feels like this should be illegal. Even if I made the mistake, they are taking money from me for a service that they have spent zero dollars on. Use Hotels.com or any other service. Tripadvisor is criminal.

We booked a room with owner David ** via Trip Advisor. We fully paid on October 3rd and received a confirmed booking for a 2 night stay at Harrah's Casino in Las Vegas. When we arrived to check in the hotel had no information of our booking and instructed us to immediately contact Trip Advisor and the owner (David). We requested the owner contact us via phone immediately to resolve. He refused to contact us via phone and only sent a message that stated "we apologize with this inconvenience but my colleague made a mistake on our inventory." David wasn't even considerate enough to let us know in advance. David ** is a total fraud and scam owner who needs to be prosecuted. Avoid doing any business with this individual - if you have a pending booking, I would advise canceling immediately.

We booked a 8 day trip to St.Croix and a day trip to Buck Island from there. Instead the trip was booked with us leaving St. Thomas. We didn’t receive the tickets for the Buck Island until October 23 by eMail. Didn’t read until Sunday the 24 the trip. We called the vendor direct at 7:00am on the 24th and left a message about cancelling the reservation (no one answered). Went online to their website at 7:15am. Request a refund. No one responded. I was charged the full $560.00 and the money went to TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor said they never received either cancellation request and I need to deal with the vendor direct which we did. We have used TripAdvisor in the past with mixed results would not recommend them or use them in the future.
