Very useful when planning trips. I’ve used TripAdvisor several times to plan vacations and it’s been really helpful overall. I like being able to read through real reviews and see traveler photos—it gives a more honest picture than ads or websites. The app itself works fine most of the time, but occasionally it lags or shows outdated info, especially for smaller businesses. Not perfect, but still one of the most useful tools I’ve found for travel planning.

Every time I need to make a choice, I get really torn. On TripAdvisor, I can read the reviews from other customers first before selecting a hotel. Moreover, it recommended several hotels to me according to my destination, which made it really easy for me to make a decision. It made my trip to London very pleasant.

We paid 800.00 extra to upgrade flight seat location for in-laws to sit on wing section. Despite paying upfront we're seated elsewhere. Despite reaching out to Trip Advisor for refund, none received. We always use Priceline because of reliability, should have stayed with them.

My husband won a $300 prize through a sweepstakes and the prize he chose was to go on a food tour in St Petersburg Florida. He made the arrangements through Trip Advisor. So, We drove down from the Chicago area for our 49th wedding anniversary to celebrate. Our tour was called Central Avenue St Pete Food Tour, reservations for 1:00 pm. We were to meet at Green Bench Brewery and nobody was there to greet us until my husband noticed a woman with a badge on so he asked her if she was the tour guide and she then asked us to go next door to a place for pizza which was ice cold and we were supposed to get unlimited drinks only to find out we each got a 3 ounce glass of cider, nothing else.
Then, I happened to walk with a cane and she was very rude and said “why did you sign up for this if you can’t walk, and I replied, ”I walk slowly”, she advised us to meet them at Bovaros for drinks, and they would be there in about 20 minutes and to just order a drink but it wouldn’t go on her tab and we would have to pay, what’s up with this whole thing we thought, so we, of course left and returned to our hotel.

I have used TripAdvisor for several years (10+) to find hotels in the area we were traveling to and possible areas of interest. Over the last several months every time I try to find a hotel at a specific site I get a "We're sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later. Plan your perfect trip »" message. I have to go through their "AI" to find anything. The "perfect trip" pops up a window that looks like you can find a hotel, it even asks for dates to check. As soon as you give it a location it bounces back to the "We're sorry" screen. This site has gone from very useful to a piece of garbage without any helpful guidance.

I had a horrible experience with Trip Advisor and the vendors provided. One of the vendors provided for Puerto Rico was not permitted to pick guest at the port and informed me last minute that I need to a taxi (which cost 100 both ways) or rent a car. The excursion was a complete lost and we had to pay $65 per person for another excursion.

I booked a tour through Trip Advisor's website for a Viator tour. It was written that I could cancel the tour for a full refund if I cancelled 24 hours beforehand. I needed to cancel the tour - unfortunately - and I cancelled it a full week ahead of time. Viator denies getting my call, and denied a refund. I contacted my credit card company- I explained the situation and they issued a refund. Then I received a threatening email from Viator demanding that I contact my credit card company and tell them to refund the money to Viator or they would report me to a credit collect agency and add interest fees to the amount of money they were demanding back.
I did NOT contact my credit card company to request this action. A month later I received a letter from my credit card company informing me that they refunded the money to Viator and that I would now have to deal with Viator directly to get my refund. I repeat-DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CORRUPT COMPANY-YOU WILL LOSE TIME AND MONEY!!!

No contact info or location for outfitter until 10 hr post appointment. When we did find outfitter 2 hours late, they had no reservation for us. Trip Advisor deleted my review. No refund $240. Scam site.

TripAdvisor own/runs Viator.com. Visa blocked my card for online purchases due to a fraudulent charge of $2206.00 (2X) by Viator. TripAdvisor Chat Rep said she could not see who attempted to apply the to our Visa. She had zero empathy towards the situation, so I think this is a re-occurring issue. I have to call all of my prepayment companies and change my credit card number!!! I hate them!

I had a terrible experience with Viator TripAdvisor, FlipKey, and Holiday Lettings recently. I made a reservation for one of their homes listed on their site months in advance, only to become a victim of fraud. Just a month before our travel date, the supposed "owner" contacted me and asked for money through Zelle payment, which raised suspicions. I immediately reached out to the TripAdvisor fraud department, who investigated and confirmed that the listing was fake. This left our group without accommodation for a trip that was just around the corner.
Unfortunately, the area we were visiting was in high demand, and prices had skyrocketed since our original booking. Despite the inconvenience caused, TripAdvisor offered no compensation to offset the price difference and seemed to make little effort in finding a suitable alternative accommodation that was similar to our original choice. This experience has made me realize that TripAdvisor and its affiliated companies do very little to vet and verify the listings on their site. The lack of oversight allows criminals to take advantage of unsuspecting customers, and it appears that TripAdvisor is unconcerned about this issue. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend seeking other travel booking services that are more trustworthy and reputable when planning future trips in order to avoid similar situations. I cannot recommend TripAdvisor's services, given the lack of accountability and oversight I encountered.

I booked two tours with the Tripadvisor app. I went back in a week later to book something else, and noticed the two previously booked were gone. I even received email confirmation. I also have the Kayak app and noticed these two trips are in it. I asked support what is happening, and they said they do have a problem and I’d have to contact some company called Viator. What is Viator? Support told me Viator bought Tripadvisor about 6.5 years ago. What has that got to do with trips I booked via Tripadvisor just a couple months ago. Still waiting on an update. I can’t even access the trips to initiate a refund! Tripadvisor is.

My wife and I bought tickets for the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum Guided Tour Skip the Line and then she fell ill and had to stay at the hotel for a couple of days under medical supervision. We called Viator.com and Tripadvisor and they wouldn't reschedule our tour. We had paid well over $120 for the tour. We own a small business in San Diego, California and never profited from our clients mistakes or misfortunes. That is not a good business policy!

I had booked timed tickets to the Arc de Triomphe through Trip Advisor (Yo Tours) several weeks before I left for Paris. I did this with all activities so I could print tickets as I was not going to purchase an international data plan. I was told repeatedly by TripAdvisor customer service that the tickets would be provided the day before. They said there was no way to get the ticket ahead of time. Why not, if they had my money and were a reputable company. And they had a no refund policy. So I had to purchase an international data plan so I could get my ticket the day before my visit.
The day before, nothing. That morning, nothing. Finally, as I was leaving the hotel (8:30 am) I bought another ticket directly from the Arc de Triomphe as I was not sure if I would have cell service. Just before 10 am the ticket was sent, an "upgraded" flex ticket. My complaints to the tour company were met with the rudest, most unprofessional behavior I have ever experienced. And worse, Tripadvisor backed them. They continue to do business with this company despite multiple reviews citing similar problems and snarky responses to reviews from the company.
The tour company said that providing tickets hours before the event is "how all tour companies operate." I beg to differ as other companies providing the guided tours to sites and museum tickets with audio guides all provided tickets prior to my leaving the US. I realize that Tripadvisor contracts with many different tour companies. But for them to continue to partner with this rude, unresponsive company has made me vow to never use them again.

Copy of Message to TripAdvisor --- The Pictures of the Schoolhouse B&B in NOTL Ontario show a different name on the building for this property. There are pictures of horse drawn carriages. But it seems as if the ownership has changed and the old name is not in use, nor are there horse drawn carriages ...or the old breakfasts which previous guests enjoyed. The pictures are "off" in a way that resembles other places with the "same situation" --- There is no room name assigned to the pictures so one must look through all the pictures to discover which room does not have stairs... There is only one review with remorse for the change... This reminds us of another property where the owners sold but no mention of new ownership is posted.
We were shocked to see years later than nothing has changed at all from when we got our own shock and surprise thinking we were going to stay at our favorite place only to endure hardships and safety issues never dreamed of... Who puts candles out in the hallways on a carpeted floor during a power outage and says nothing to the guests? And it was the same scenario with the breakfast - used to be great, now like a motel. Perhaps some additional information on the current owners would be helpful for travelers and let them choose, to try the new ones and ask some questions before they get shocked, or tricked some would say. And you at Trip Advisor are a part of this and we note that lack of responsibility and think less of you for it, and... We lay that now publicly at your feet.
Would you please offer the world less pain with a little kindness and customer service and honesty? Thank you. I found out at https://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/tripadvisor.html that you apparently do not care about such things. So we will proceed with other options for travel from this moment on. AND if we use your site at all, it will be with extreme caution! We are so disappointed!

We recently registered our business with Tripadvisor with a number of agreements to include Tripadvisor wiping reviews from another similar business at our location (different business name). A new account should have been set up instead of adding our business to an old businesses account. We requested that reviews of the previous business be wiped, as well as requested that dated pictures of the property and pictures that were not of the property be deleted. Tripadvisor didn't follow through on any of the agreed terms and went silent after our account was set up and billing was established. The account manager stopped answering his phone and there is no phone number for a general customer service for property members.
In 6 years (we didn't actually have a membership for the first 5 years) we have had a total of 12 reviews through Tripadvisor and have had hundreds of review through Google, Booking.com, & Expedia. Half of the reviews are from bad customers that we had to kick out and they went on Tripadvisor to burn us. We have high ratings everywhere else. This indicates that the service is outdated and simply not used. We bought a membership this year (our 6th year in business), hoping that we would be able to clean up our account. We are cancelling our membership and stopping payment. Google is a more reliable source of review information.

Several times now I try to book a hotel with a "special price" for Tripadvisor Plus members. I keep getting error messages about my credit card info not entered correctly - I have meticulously entered credit card info for 3 different cards, all of them in very good standing. I sign out and sign back in and, of course, then the "special price" is gone. It's impossible that this is just coincidence that it has happened at least 3 times.

DO NOT prepay ANY hotel through Tripadvisor. They do not visit hotels before they upload the hotel. When you arrive at hotel it's not as the pictures & then you are out of luck for getting a refund. Tripadvisor does not get hold of the manager for the approval of a refund and they just deny it saying they couldn't get hold of the manager. Always check the hotel and room before you actually pay the hotel.
Gordon by The Beach in Tel Aviv had beautiful pictures online but misrepresented itself and it was a flea bitten, mold infested hotel with no locked front door, elevator, phone or safe in room. There is never a manager on site. The sitting area in the Deluxe suite had a ragged sofa and a sheet covering the cushions to cover the filth a holes. No elevator which they specifically omit in their write up. The exterior stucco is crumbling. A greasy front desk receptionist. No restaurant as posted. The Bathroom was mold infested health hazard and no working light. The bedroom had mold and damage from water leaking. DO NOT STAY at any hotel under the Olive brand anywhere.

They reject reviews without any solid reason. As such, the reviews on their site cannot be trusted. Customer reviews are all important, even when they are negative. Customers deserve to read all reviews.

The whole thing is fake. Tripadvisor ONLY promotes restaurants or hotels that will book though Viator and pay a 30% fee. All the other legit companies will not be rated. That all started about 5 year ago when Viator bought Tripadvisor. I'm in the top 3 in my area but you cannot find me there as I refuse to pay that 30% booking fee.

I wish to inform all businesses that are thinking of signing up with Tripadvisor, that you read and understand their policies. They are very strict about not removing any reviews from their website even if they are detrimental to your business. They won't even let me close my account to remove my listing. I can only say that my business is closed. All the reviews will remain online forever. As long as the reviewer seems to be within their so-called guidelines, they will let it be posted. Please look elsewhere for review companies that allow some sort review management. I have over 36 reviews on Tripadvisor. Two of them are negative and over 5 years old. If you do I search for my business on Google, the most negative review always, I mean always shows up first in a search. No rotation of reviews whatsoever. Here is the canned response I received from the so-called support team:
"We have completed our investigation into your concern and have also evaluated all other aspects of the review in question. The review complies with our submission guidelines. Tripadvisor does not remove reviews after a certain date. However, older reviews are weighted less when factored into our Popularity Index, which determines a property's ranking relative to other properties in the area. Therefore, as time goes on, past reviews will count less and less toward your rating and popularity. Since the review in question complies with our submission guidelines, it will remain published on Tripadvisor."
I hope this helps someone with their decision if they are thinking of signing up with Tripadvisor. I would definitely reconsider. This has been a horrible experience for me and a blow to my business.

I made a booking for a Hilton hotel 6 months before my reservation. 5 days before my reservation they sent me an email that said I can cancel or go to a different hotel that was outside of the city. I called 3x getting different stories, but the email was true. I’m TripAdvisor plus. I pay $99/yr for good deals. This is not acceptable. I can’t trust them now so I will never use them again. They were no help when I called. Take the hotel or cancel basically is what they said. I cancelled. What if I had been going on my dream vacation. Think about this before you book with them. Will you be ok if you get this email 5 days before your trip. I have always liked Tripadvisor, but now I know what happens when things go wrong.

They want to only hear positive. But that helps no one traveling to warn them about potential problems and rip-offs and dangers. People need the raw unfiltered truth, not some namby-pamby review that does nothing to aid them in their choices.

As a service business our reviews are very important to us. We strive to offer the highest level of customer service and respond to any unsatisfied customers immediately. Posts that are "blatantly" mistaken identity or obviously non verified customers do not get removed when you report them to TripAdvisor. We took valuable time to investigate the authenticity to a few negative posts and TripAdvisor still refused to take them down. Their platform is not fair like Google and Yelp reporting. They actually "read" your report and "see" the issues. Honest posts regardless of the review are not disputed and we attempt "every remedy" available to ensure the customers are satisfied with our actions when dissatisfied. Their platform needs better monitoring and oversight with more in depth rational considerations when businesses dispute a review.

Update. Honestly, my experience with TripAdvisor started out poorly. My wife was frustrated. As a result, I became upset when I realized why she was frazzled. Anger kicked in, and I posted an unflattering review of the company. Next, I wrote an admittedly nasty note to the CEO, Matt Goldberg who has been there less than six months. My guess on his reading what I sent? Zero chance! Shocked - about five hours after my tirade, and on a Monday night around 8 pm, my wife got a call - from Matt Goldberg. Not an assistant. Not an imposter. The CEO!
1) Apology... agreed situation was not acceptable
2) Empathy... acknowledged her frustration was legitimate.
3) Asked Questions... assuring he understood - cared - and demonstrated respect.
4) Restated His Understanding... which enhanced trust; really listening.
5) Personal Promise... will be resolved within a day
6) Request... if not resolved - call him personally!
The next night, I shared with the MBA's I teach (my retirement job) about our experience with Matt Goldberg. Rarely do I have an example of world class leadership. What I shared - lesson to consider:
1) Personally Engaged... checking "customer touchpoints" - not just relying on what the executive team is sharing.
2) Demonstrate Care And Respect... invest the time and effort in a manner that is desired for the entire company culture.
3) Action Oriented... rolled up sleeves - and get things done. Set an example for the team. "This is what service is!"
Lesson Reinforced. All companies - and people - will make mistakes. It is how mistakes are handled that demonstrate their character and values. Surprisingly, some of the most loyal customers are actually the result of bad experiences - handled in a world class way. My guess? The future of TripAdvisor has never been brighter. Hoping his approach is contagious, and strengthens the culture of TripAdvisor even more. Afterall, culture is most often the key ingredient in the recipe that results in world class teams.

I booked a hotel room early morning. An hour later my kids woke up and one of them was sick. We decided to cancel our trip to Maryville Indiana Hilton Garden Inn. After calling to cancel they told us my refund was nonrefundable. So within less than two hours. I lost $250.

I purchased a Tripadvisor Plus membership in order to get a discounted hotel rate through their site. Free cancellation was available before a certain date. A few days later, I decided to stay somewhere else and cancel my Plus membership in addition to the hotel stay. The Plus membership ($99) was refunded promptly. However, the hotel stay (about $1000) was never refunded to my credit card. The Tripadvisor cancellation confirmation email states "If you don’t see your refund in 5-7 business days, please contact your bank for more information." I call my credit card company and they said to wait another week. I did. Still no refund. I now have to open a dispute for this charge. Such unnecessary hassle for something that other hotels can do seamlessly with no problems.
