Manager was rude. Probably 20 people waiting because there were no cars available. When I asked manager what was going on, he told me not to point my fingers at him. Don't know what he was talking about. I had my hands open the whole time and not in the least threatening matter. Very unprofessional. UNorganized. Will not use them again.

I rented a Nissan Altima and Fox rental roadside allowed someone to forge my signature and switch the Altima for a KIA Optimum. A supervisor told me their policy is not to ask for ID when switching a car. He also lied and told me, "No one signed for the vehicles to be switched." The car is still missing.

I realized this was a mistake immediately upon arriving at the office. The place is very low rent in appearance. The cashier/attendant was very short in what she was telling me, talking very fast, annoyed by questions, etc. Very rude. I have tried to call to see if I could extend one day. No one will answer the phone, all day. 30 min hold and I gave up more than once. 24/7 chat line has no one available to chat - they will get back to me via email when someone is available.

I finally got through to a person at 10:30pm and when I asked about options I was told that to extend one day would be triple the original rate, and to return early I would have to pay for all the days I originally booked plus fifteen for each day early. When I drove vehicle off lot they handed me papers to initial, I said I hadn't inspected these things and the lady told me we only worry about major damage. This was rushed and jumbled, and I do not look forward to actually turning the car in. I have read all of the nightmare reviews about fraudulent charges. I don't know why I didn't look for the reviews prior to booking. How does this still happen in today's world?

I rented a car from Fox Rental for the weekly rate of $139 and told them I had my own insurance. But after a long wait over an hour at the airport terminal in LAX waiting to be picked up. When I finally arrived at their rental place the customer service representative told to initial the contract and being in a hurry to leave I initialled on the insurance part without reading the fine line. It doesn't end there. They tagged on other hidden fees which they never disclosed including penalty adding up to $450 dollars. This type of business tactics is outrageous and shouldn't be allowed. If you need more information regarding this matter I have all the documents.

Updated 6/3/2015 - Based on my bad review I submitted earlier today I got a phone call directly from Fox Rent A Car to resolve the problem. Instead I got an incompetent person on the other line who not only didn't know how to fix the issue but became rude. I was going over the itemized overcharges one by one but instead she consistently intervened by saying I understand. These itemized charges were given by Fox to the collection agency but she couldn't see that on her screen. The collection company did not come up with these excessive charges on their own. Please be advised if you don't want to be ripped off. I paid the collection agency the overcharges to protect my credit. I would run from Fox Rent A Car. Don't take my word for look at all the reviews. Horrible stories after another.

First, we arrived late because our flight was delayed and they gave away the car that we rented, we ended up with a tiny car. We rented a car in Tampa and with it being 100 degrees, the AC barely worked. Also we got a flat tire and we called roadside. They put the donut on which is ok, but now we are stuck driving on the donut. We called Fox and they told us to go to Firestone and get it replaced. This isn't our responsibility, we are on vacation. They told us to do the spare ourselves and wouldn't bring another car. I booked to save money and I really got what I paid for. Never again.

My husband and I rented a car from Fox out of San Jose, CA. Problem #1: Our flight into CA was messed up and the airline was trying to get us to our destination but the only option they could offer that was close to getting us in on time was an airport 30 miles away. We called Fox to see if we could switch our rental location and the price went from $400 to $1200! There was ZERO customer service! The only way we could get Fox to communicate was by posting an angry post on Twitter. At that point it was too late and we had to settle for 4 flights and 22 hours of travel to get us from NY to CA (original destination).

Problem #2: When Fox finally did answer our post they promised us 10% off our bill which they never gave us. We had to fight with them for 1 month after the trip to get the refund we were promised. Problem #3: We expectantly got caught on an unmanned toll road. We were expecting to have to pay the toll plus a small fee. According to the Fox policy on their website "you will be charged a USD/2.95 per day convenience fee for each day of the rental including any days on which the service is not used up to a maximum of USD/14.75 per rental month PLUS incurred tolls at the cash rate". However, they decide to charge you an additional $40 fine. Our $7 toll to cross the bridge has now turned into $67 in fines.

When we try to contact customer service you have to sit on hold for a minimum of 30-40 for someone to answer, only to give you another phone number to call and then they hang up on you. We call the phone number and VMS is claiming that Fox authorized the charge and Fox is claiming that they didn't place the charge. Apparently we are not alone: BEWARE - **. Resolution: One month later we finally received the 10% refund (several emails and phone calls to get it). However the additional $40 fee has not been refunded or justified!

I booked through FOX's website. I've gone with FOX 3 times over a few years, but doubt I ever will again. Even if Fox has prices that best most other agencies, a customer should be able to expect quality customer service and a nice vehicle. NEVER have I received a clean car from FOX, but that's small potatoes.

I rented a Standard car, and according to the website, I was to receive a Ford Fusion or something similar. I've spent lots of time in a Ford Fusion and knew it would be great for our purposes. The man at the counter gave me my total, which included a deposit (not mentioned when I booked) of $150. He also immediately and repeatedly tried to upsell us on an SUV to the point of irritation ("Would you take it for $20/day extra? No? Oh wait, look -- it's on sale! How about $10/day extra?") then moved on to explain various insurance options -- all while we're telling him we were on a budget and in a bit of a rush (the latter was not his fault; it was due to a missing suitcase at the airport). But his chatter was a waste of our time.

Ultimately, we got the "or something similar" to the Fusion, which was a Nissan Sentra. Upon inspection, there were HUGE, hideous gouges on the driver's door frame that were clearly indicative of the car having been broken into. I questioned this at the inspection/exit gate and was told that FOX has to break into their own cars when keys get locked inside. Really, you don't have two sets of keys? I don't even think a 5-yr-old would buy that, but even if it's true, no car should be offered in compromised condition. In any case, at this point we were super late and there was no way to get inside to trade out, given the lengthy wait we'd already had in line.

At FOX, Sentra is apparently secret code for "car that demands you put the pedal to the floor to get up to the lowest of freeway speeds." Maybe they didn't calibrate the oxygen mix for Colorado (it had Arizona plates), but we were due to meet people soon after renting, and by the time we noticed the incredible lack of power on the highway & slight inclines of Denver, there was zero chance of returning it. It was the most miserable, scary rental experience of my life -- merging was treacherous due to the inability to reach appropriate speeds.

Kudos to the woman who checked our car in; I didn't catch her name, but she brought my receipt and took $20 off the price for our inconvenience. It was a very nice thing to do and she was super sweet, but it doesn't make up for the money I paid for a truly awful rental experience. In the future I'll likely pay a bit more for clean, well-serviced cars from other agencies, and will be sure to tell my friends to consider the same.

The car was rented was from 5/13 thru 5/17 and stated that I could not use my own insurance and that I had no other option but to purchase fox insurance. I bought a copy of my own personal insurance verification and I was still unable to use my own insurance and I had to purchase insurance that I was aware of this. They had three different insurance options and the only one that I could get was the one that was in the middle so therefore I still did not have an option because your representative stated that I had to get the one in the middle.

So therefore I don't understand why I was given options when I didn't have option to be given, if I had to still choose the one that your representative state that I had to get. Why even tell me that I have option when you demanded that I had to this anyway? When I received the car the front windshield was dirty and front wipers needed to be replaced... the car was not checked before renting it out to me. I will not be returning to fox rentals again.

I rented a car from Fox Rent a Car in Las Vegas 4/23-4/26/2015. Shortly after I returned the car on 4/26 (in fact on the way to the airport) I realized that I had left my camera in the console between the two front seats. Immediately after my flight home I called Fox, and called them daily for about a week, trying both the lost and found extension, and the customer rep phone numbers. I was able to reach a live person just once, but left many voice mails in increasing desperation to retrieve my phone. A customer rep tried to help, told me she should contact the local branch manager and definitely get back to me about the whereabouts of my camera. I never heard back from her, or received any phone call back from the numerous voice messages left on lost and found, and the local Las Vegas message machines.

One customer rep gave me the phone number of the local (Las Vegas) lost and found person, I called and left a message, he called back and left me a message that he would look into finding the lost item and would get back to me. He never called back. Today (after a 40 minutes "hold" on the phone while the computer voice assured me that my call was very important to them etc.) I again told a customer rep that I had left my camera in the car, that anyone cleaning out the car between rental customers would have surely found it, and wanted to find out how I could retrieve the lost item. She said she couldn't help me, would send another note to someone at the Las Vegas branch, that she couldn't give me the phone number of anyone at the Las Vegas branch, or anyone's name there.

The level of customer (non)service is horrible. I have never been treated so poorly. No one has ever told me that they found, or didn't find, the camera. If the camera was not found, it was surely appropriated by the person who cleaned the car out between customers, because there is absolutely no doubt that the camera was left in that console. I am hopeful that the camera can be found, or that I can be reimbursed for its loss. It is a Sony RX-100, a high-end point-and-shoot camera that was the retirement gift I received from my company after my 30 years of working there.

You would not expect to rent a car and have your credit ruined. Alas, that was the case for me. Fox rental car company is the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. A couple of days ago, on May the 11th of 2015, I was coerced into letting Fox rental car company perform a credit check on me. Prior to allowing this abomination of a company review my credit, I asked if this would reflect as a hard or soft inquiry. Both reps on duty assured me it would be a soft, despite my second question into whether or not they were sure, to which the female employee rudely told me "Yes, I've already told you yes. I don't know what your definition of soft or hard is, but it would not reflect on your credit." However, I have checked my credit score today and these monsters have performed a hard inquiry. Why you may ask? Because I did not have my credit card or flight itinerary with me.

In short, to wrap up my first consumer affairs review, I would highly recommend to everyone, "Avoid this company as though they were the plague." The customer reps are rude, misinformed and will do anything so long as you rent a car and get out. I will forever look back on this day as a period in my life when I wasted 2 hours in line, only to have my life halted. It will take 2 years to have this inquiry removed, but I would be fighting to have it done sooner.

Was using Fox Rental for the first time. It will be the last time. Had a reservation for a convertible from the Phoenix airport. This reservation was made several months ahead of my schedule visit. When I arrived at the counter, each counter attendant (4 - attendants) had customers. There was only one couple ahead of me in line. 3 of the 4 counter attendants had to ask the 4th attendant for their customers' cars. The 4th attendant was calling down stairs for every customer's car. I stood in line of 15 to 20 minutes before I was able to get to the counter. When I got to the counter, handed my confirmation information to the attendant. They couldn't find my reservation. They finally found my reservation, but now couldn't find a car for me. My attendant and the other attendants told the manager that things were not going well. The wait times was were too long. But nothing happened. Only apologies were given.

My attendant finally had to go down stairs herself and find out what was going on. "Walk customers" were getting their cars before me. My attendant returned to tell me that she had gotten me a car. By the time I finished with the paperwork, I had stood at the counter for over 30 minutes. My attendant asked that I wait 5 minutes before going down to the garage to get my car. After 5 minutes, I went to the garage, handed my paperwork to the garage attendant and was told that my car would be right up. 25 minutes later, my car shows up. This was the worst experience I've ever had renting a car. I sent them an e-mail explaining my experience, but never got a reply. I don't believe their website allows your e-mails to go through. After 5 days of waiting for response, I finally called their corporate office. Once again, they apologized and offered me $75 off my bill. Really?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. When I returned the vehicle. No attendant came to check me out. I waited until someone from FOX said that we could just leave the car and car keys and they would send me a bill via e-mail. Had to catch a flight, so I did as told. But I still hadn't received a bill statement after over a week. Don't believe the estimated car cost given to you. I was shocked.

We rented a vehicle in Phoenix for Spring Break. The gentleman at the counter never offered insurance, so I didn't ask. Before leaving an employee checked the exterior of the car with me very quickly and stated, "No damage." I had upgraded to a Dodge Charger (that's another story) which sits low and has the air effects on the front of the car. When I returned the car the employee immediately goes to the front of the car and gets down on his hands and knees, finds a scrape under the car and says I've damaged his vehicle and makes me write an incident report.

Several weeks later I receive a letter telling me I owe them $689.77. The estimated damage is less than $500 (how convenient), and they are charging for loss of use and an administration fee. Now I have a damage recovery agent telling me that if I don't pay this they are going to turn me over to a collections agency. The kicker is the letter says that they reserve the right not to repair the car. Don't rent from these people. They do not care about customer service, only money.

Needless to say I was in tears by this time. I would have taken anything just to get out of the line! We are finally given a 'contract' and told to go pick out any minivan in the line which meant 3 different colors of the same minivan... I don't CARE... it started and drove! The Ontario airport location in Ontario CA has friendly staff. They explain any and all charges upfront and the car was clean. For those of you who say that the bill was more because of the deposit, all rental companies charge a deposit, and when you return the car the deposit gets refunded, the card issuer can take 5-7 business days to return the refund, so it's not the car rental company's fault.

LAX location. Extremely slow transportation to and from terminal, then 30 - 45 minute wait times for a car. And again, did not get the class of car I reserved. On April 15, 2015 it was an hour and 50 minutes from terminal curbside to exit from the agency. I'd reserved a smaller car for a very specific reason (parking situation at my destination) but was put into a Dodge Charger. The car was not particularly clean - dust on the dash and water spotted all over exterior. The return to the terminal after drop off was worse than the pick up. I waited an hour and forty minutes just to get on their bus, which was actually their second bus as the first one just rolled by about half full. I made my flight by about 5 minutes and under a lot of undue stress.

Attracted by their prices, I've rented from Fox a half dozen times. Most of the time my experience is very similar to my April 15/20 experience. I will NOT be using them again! Fox is extremely poorly managed. The facilities are shabby and the agents give you line after line. Although given with what the line employees have to work with, it's probably the best they can do. I'm sure it's just as hard on them dealing with poor transportation and poor car availability. It struck me this time around that there were no suits waiting in line. That has to tell you something if the place has no business travelers. I've been living on the east coast since 1987, have family in the San Joaquin Valley, and have rented a lot of cars out of LAX over the years. Fox Rent A Car gets the prize for over-all worst car rental company at LAX, hands down. Spend and extra $30 and save yourself a lot of grief. I know I will.

They sneak in insurance charges, roadside assistance and other fees into their bill. Thankfully I did not sign anything requesting these additional charges. However I have spent hours upon hours upon hours trying to reach someone from customer service, no luck... My review echoes many of the other reviews seen here. This is just a terrible terrible company! DO NOT USE THEM!

Rented from Fox. Driving in California we accidentally turned onto a toll road and did not have any opportunity to pay. About 2 weeks later we received a $3.26 toll to pay in the mail. Then Fox sent us a letter from a company that they use to process tolls (VMS) that charged us an additional $40. I don't mind paying a reasonable processing fee but this was out of line. I will never rent from Fox again.

Fox saved me when I was stranded by Dollar-Thrifty. I had processed a prepaid reservation for a Thrifty rental car in March 2015, via their contracted 'third party' CarTrawler data service. I arrived at the Thrifty rental counter in Orlando in April. After running a 'soft' credit check, Thrifty refused to provide me with a vehicle, even though I presented my CarTrawler prepaid reservation, a valid driver's license and a VISA debit card with access to sufficient funds. After inquiring with several other car rental companies about their rental requirements, I visited the 'off site' car rental company FOX. The counter agent was professional and courteous. Even though I did not have a reservation they provided me with a Toyota Corolla with the same VISA debit card and driver's license. I was even able to drop the car in Tampa, as my original itinerary required. If it wasn't for Fox, I would have been left stranded in the Orlando airport by Thrifty.

My husband and I visited FL from 2/10 to 2/17 (one week) this year. We landed in Miami and picked up our rental car and drove to Key Largo. I was told that with a rent a car, the tolls would show up on my credit card. Now, our visit was in Feb. and I am still receiving toll charges as of today 4/7, so far adding up to $53.80. I became concerned about these charges and called FOX many times. Tried to get someone in their billing dept. and kept being transferred and listened to the phone ringing, sometimes for as long as 30 minutes and no one answered. I was never able to reach billing.

I then, called the toll company listed on my credit card and still was unable to connect with a human. I resorted to calling my credit card company and they were able to put me in contact with the toll company and I received my receipts. So, our trip cost us over $50.00 in tolls for one week in the "Florida Keys". Apparently besides the tolls, there is a toll convenience fee of $2.95/day, which added up to $18.40 for us. We had no idea about that at all!!!! The service was just terrible. The first car we received, had a starter problem and they had to come out with a tow truck and give us another car. Also trying to speak to someone was a nightmare. We will never rent from this company again.

Never ever rent from Fox Rental Car! I rented a 9-passenger van at Fox Rental Car through Expedia in Antalya, Turkey. When we arrived, the Fox Rental Car counter was not at the airport, however the Expedia confirmation clearly states the counter is located at the airport. We had to call the local Fox Rental Car office and someone finally showed up 30 minutes later. Not only did they not have the van, the guy had an attitude and told me I needed to confirm the reservation, even though the Expedia confirmation states "No need to call us to reconfirm this reservation".

After two hours on the Skype phone with Expedia, the bottom line was Fox advertised the van as available on the Expedia website, and the reservation was received but knowingly rented the van to someone else. While talking to Expedia, I want to be sure my recollection was correct so I went to the Expedia website and the same van was available for rental for the next two days, even though Expedia confirm the van was not available after speaking to the Antalya Fox Rental Car office. This is blatant false advertisement (I have the confirmation and a snapshot of the Expedia website Fox Rental Car offer). I advised Expedia to take this off their website, otherwise they are just as guilty. My conclusion is to never rent from Fox Rental Car again, and would advise anyone reading this to do the same. Nobody should face this kind of bad business during his or her vacation.

She told me the upgrade would be $25.00 a day, not $25.00 additional per day. We ended up paying $48 a day for Kia economy car. Additionally, she told me I would be refunded for the unused portion of the prepaid fuel. Additionally, she do not tell you that refusing the insurance is an option and charged me for an additional driver when your spouse driving is suppose to be free. When I noticed the discrepancies the next day, I called customer service and was told I would have to drive back to the Orlando office.

I returned to the office two days after the original transaction and the supervisor at the facility corrected the contact from that day forward but refused to correct any charges for the two days that had already transpired. The people I dealt with at this location were rude and did not provide anything resembling customer service. The supervisor that we worked with during our complaint resorted to calling my husband names and then lied about having a business card so we could not report his bad behavior to the corporate office. When I returned home, I spent over 4 hours and spoke to 7 different people in the corporate office. The issue was still not resolved to my satisfaction but they basically wore me down, I could not spend any more time on it.

This group may be lowest rate on the booking sites, but they will upcharge you when you pick up the car which will bring their rate in line with other agencies. That combined with the frustration if you need to complain about anything in your transaction makes it worth paying the Avis or Hertz rental price instead of gambling on this company. If you do decide to book with Fox, read the contract! Do not trust one word the desk clerk says. If you have a problem, the first thing they will say is you signed the contract and it is clearly stated. Horrible experience in Panama. No airport counter. Had to take a hotel shuttle to get to office in nearby hotel. Office at hotel was closed. Had concierge make numerous calls and finally got someone who said that in spite of our reservation there were no cars for rental. Eventually, a car was found and brought over to hotel. I had rented a mid-size SUV through Expedia but only car available was a Chevy Aveo (a compact car). My rental rate was not modified in spite of the difference in car category. Furthermore, I was told that I needed to purchase not only SLI insurance but also CDW. I showed the agent my StateFarm insurance card, but the rude manager told me that that was insufficient and that I needed to have brought my full car insurance documentation.

Nothing but trouble. I made arrangements to rent a mid-size car (Corolla or similar). Seemed like a decent price and they had a shuttle from the airport to the rental site. Fox caught me at a weak moment because one of the passengers just found out their step-mom passed away, so I was convinced to buy the insurance.

Don't need to buy the insurance. If something happens take care of it then. Usually, if you have full coverage on your own car you should be good. Was also told to buy the prepaid fuel to save money at $2 a gallon. Well, it was actually $2.09 a gallon. Only saves you cents if you return the car on empty. Found it is somewhat hard to actually return a car on empty. Knowing that we would have to return at least a day early for the funeral, I asked about changing the reservation to one day less (this is before paying). The Fox representative said early return was no problem and never mentioned anything about a fee. Finding out now that there is a $15 per day fee for early return and that it wouldn't have been considered an early return if he would have changed it on the contract before I paid. Thanks Christopher.

Walked outside to the number 6 lot where we were to select a car. Fox was trying to be sneaky and put compact cars in this section because they were out of mid-size. Instead of being truthful and offering us a compact car at a discount, they hoped we wouldn't notice. Luckily, there was one truthful employee that help us out on this issue. When choosing a car they all had dirty interiors, so we just avoided the ones that smelled like weed.

When making flight arrangements, I found a better flight time out of Orlando vs Fort Lauderdale, which we originally flew into. We contacted Fox to find out about the possibility of dropping the car off in Orlando. Was told "yes, but there is a $17 drop off fee". That was fine with us, but I called a second time just to check and received the same information. We finalized our flight and drop off arrangements. Drove through the night (3hrs) to the Fox Orlando rental center only to find out that it actually was a $75 drop off fee and the shuttle only went to the Orlando International airport, not the Orlando Sanford airport which we were going to. At 5am we got a $90 cab ride to the airport in time for our early flight out. We made it to the funeral Thursday morning, just in time, but no help from Fox.

Somewhat positives: received the rental full on gasoline (unlike experience with Enterprise). Fox would be a reasonable price if very smart about avoiding the extra fees, and when I called customer service I did get a refund for part of the drop off fee (but not enough to make me want to rent from Fox again). I hate being so negative, but I hope this helps future renters. Wished I would have read all these poor reviews before renting.

Had terrible experience with Fox rental this January 2015. Car broke down and roadside assistance number had me on hold for 35 minutes, then someone answered asking my problem, then put me on hold for another 25 minutes. Tow truck showed up two hours later, returned car for a swap and complained. Manager begrudgingly gave me a $5.00 rebate! Are you kidding??? I spent half my day on the phone for $5.00? Be aware that they are impossible to reach by phone, the office OR roadside assistance. Manager had lousy attitude saying that he wasn't responsible for towing company or roadside assistance number. Well then, who is??? STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the many dissatisfied customers addressing the inoperative communication system that Fox Rent A Car provides as a faux response team. Be aware, any problems from minuscule to PERILOUS cannot be resolved via their phone lines. I don't know if its design is in to favor them in house insurance policies they badger you into buying which they technically will not honor their claims. Or a system undermanned so as to not be effective. Or maybe a computer glitch they refuse to address. One thing for certain any company that directly ignores such a PROBLEM SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED!

Too many people complaining about this same issue is not a trivial accident! Please report complaints of this NATURE to D.O.T. Department of Transportation. This is the government agency responsible for regulating illegal business practices within the confines of transportation industries. I mention this because I was a victim of this company's inadequate communications system. Where I was caught in a flash flood, and in trying to connect with a representative to assist me with my damaged car.

Within 20 calls to be placed on hold. Then to be dropped over and over again, just to advise of my given situation. They now are denying the claim for damages after I was bullied into buying their worthless insurance. Please be very careful when agent for company of Fox Rent Car tells you, "Buy the insurance, if anything happens to the car don't worry. Just drop off the keys and go your merry way it's covered." It's not true.

Be sure you read all the fine print in back of contract. Lots of technical points you must be aware of. Which can leave you liable for cost of car. I hope this will help some of you as I had the misfortune of enduring AN ACT OF GOD PERIL. But to no avail was not helped in the matter by the deceit of this company's operation inadequacies. Or lack of cooperation in resolving this tragedy accordingly. Best of luck to you all!

We made all arrangements through Expedia. When arriving in Puerto Vallarta, Fox Car Rental was nowhere to be found among the other more reputable car rental agencies while exiting the airport. Upon making an inquiry was told to wait at the end of the drive and a shuttle would pick us up in 5 minutes. More than 30 minutes later a van came and brought us to the office located less than a 5 minute walk away. We were told we had to pay an additional $400 insurance for the two weeks. After reading many reviews others have experienced the same from $200-400 +.

There was a man sitting at the side and offered us $200 off the rental price (+ whale watching and breakfast, transportation to and from the location) if we partook in a presentation....Timeshare RIP OFF! I wanted my money back and so agreed, knowing full well I wouldn't fall for the scam (at an undisclosed location, the whole felt like a bad movie). Lost 1/2 a day of our trip, did not pay for our transportation and hoped throughout the 2 weeks we would get the $200 back. Not sure what kind of company allows these things to happen, inside scams, everyone getting their cut. The customer service reps were not friendly, very defensive, not very communicative and crude.

When returning the car completely unscathed (terrified the entire 2 weeks of what any damage would cost me with this company) they charged a ridiculous amount for the gas which was just shy of what we took it out with (going out to a gas station and back wasn't worth the stress, maze around the airport), said there was damage to the bottom of the car which I did not do and was not included in the initial inspection before taking the car out, the windshield inspected with a fine tooth comb (learning they look for the slightest mark and charge you for an entire windshield). I was terrified to see my credit card bill when arriving home.

I called their customer service...useless. Don't waste your time. Tell everyone you know not to rent from this company. Yes, they may be cheap (their claim to fame) but you get what you pay for.

I am very satisfied with my recent rental at Fox. I was able to secure a Camaro for a total of $388 for 11 days in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The shuttle arrives at the airport every 10 minutes at a designated stop. They did not have a Mustang, but tried to get me to pay a little extra and settle for a Camaro. I knew right away that they did not have a Mustang and requested to be placed in a Camaro for the same price. They honoured the agreement. I did have to return the car twice for minor mechanical issues but was promptly placed in another car. The company issued a $60 credit for the inconvenience. The $150 deposit appeared back on my credit card within a few days. I will definitely consider Fox Car Rental for my next vacation.

Worst car rental experience of my life and it hasn't even ended yet! I reserved a minivan for our 8 day trip from to California for the holidays after having read several articles mentioning Fox and their lower prices. Everything said to reserve early to get the best price, so I reserved at the beginning of June for our trip in December. It was an amazing price - $456 for 8 days was a huge savings over the other companies. I was so excited about getting a great deal.

When we got to the desk in San Francisco, we were informed that they did not have a van available, but we were offered a luxury sedan for the same price. Since we needed to be able to transport 6 people (4 adults and 2 adolescents) a sedan was not going to work. We were then told that we could try to see if the other rental companies had a van available and if they did, we would be reimbursed for the difference within 2 weeks. All we had to do was give them the off sell letter that we were given along with the invoice from the other company. Great customer service right? As long as we were getting the price that we got online in the end then we were ok with the "slight" inconvenience of paying over $2000 extra because we could only get the walk up price for the rental at Hertz. The gentleman at the desk at Fox acted as though it was a common practice and things always went smoothly with getting the refund.

After returning the van to the other company, we were going to bring the paperwork directly to the SFO location but the line would have taken at least 2 hours to wait and we had a plane to catch home so we decided to email the information as instructed in the letter. We got home late on the 28th of December and I emailed the off sell letter plus a copy of our invoice from Hertz in the morning on the 29th. Most companies that I email have some sort of system to notify you that your submission had been received, but I didn't receive anything so I was a bit concerned and thought that maybe I should fax the information as well. I tried faxing the information and the number never picked up. At this point I became extremely concerned. Contacting the online help people, I was told that the number I had on the letter was the same fax number that they had for the off sell department.

I tried calling the customer service phone number, but all it would do is ring. I then decided to write about my encounter on the company Facebook page and was contacted very quickly by Thanh **, the North Regional Manager, who said that the fax number on the form I was given was incorrect and said that he would forward my documentation and they would expedite my refund as soon as possible. That was on December 31st. It is now over a month later and I still do not have my refund.

After having to shame them on Facebook again on the 23rd of January to get them to respond, I was told by both Mr. ** and by Mike **, the Director of Contact Center Operations, that my check had been sent out the day before. Even given the weather here in the Eastern part of the country it should not take over a week for a piece of mail to arrive from California. I've actually gotten mail from other people in California that was sent after the check was supposedly mailed and received it in 3 days. Which leads me to the conclusion that I have been lied to and that the check was never mailed.

Please do yourself a favor and do NOT rent from these thieves and absolutely DO NOT put yourself through their horrible off sell procedure. You won't be able to get in touch with anyone to ask about the status of your money and if you do, they will only lie and say whatever they need to so that you leave them alone. This company should not be allowed to operate in the shady manner that they do. I had to learn the hard way that if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Save yourself the headache down the road and pay the extra money to deal with companies that actually have some integrity.

On December 28, 2014 I booked a Toyota Camry for my trip to Phoenix, January 9th - January 17, 2015 from Fox Rent A Car in Phoenix. The total was $168.08 which I thought was fairly reasonable. I booked through Economy Bookings.Com and prepaid the full amount. Economy told me I would have to pay the local taxes and fees. After waiting a half hour or so in line, Michael, the Fox Rent A Car representative told me he did not have a Toyota Camry and would I be happy with a Chevrolet Malibu instead. I agreed.

However, he said they did not have a Malibu either and would I like to be upgraded. I replied I was not interested in upgrading. Michael said he would have to put us in a Chrysler 300 for no additional charge. I said; if that was all they had I would take it for the same price as the Camry-Malibu. He proceeded to write up the agreement. The total came to $454.94, but he said, and the invoice reflects also, that this amount was a deposit and I would be refunded upon returning the vehicle.

So, for nine days I enjoyed the car, but upon return, the gentleman who checked the car over said I would be entitled a full refund of $150.00 not $454.94, which he said would be applied to my credit card. To date I have not seen that amount credited either. So, what my credit card statement tells me; I paid Economy Bookings $168.08 and Fox 454.94 = $623.02 for a nine-day rental that I prepaid in full December 28, 2014. I called Fox and asked about this exorbitant charge and was told to take it up with Economy Booking because Fox feels this was fair. He also said that what the agent says is one thing, what is in writing is something else. I will never book through Economy Bookings or Fox again. I have rented cars for 20+ years and have never been cheated or treated like this before.

Once we paid for our car and had all paper work in hand, we were directed towards the pick up area. At this point we found a crowd over 50 people waiting for their vehicles. The tow truck arrived. He picked up the car and drove to the Fox Rent A Car location. When we got there and I explained the situation the manager told me he could not replace the car unless my girlfriend was there. I explained him that the guy on customer service is the one who directed us to do it in the first place... He told me that we were "in violation of the contract". I said, “Your customer service guy told us to do this and now she has to leave the kids unattended so you can give us the vehicle...” I said to the guy, “Imagine us, 2 adults and 2 children on the middle of the run and all your company sent was a tow truck with no room to put 2 car seats...” This company is not family friendly at all, nor they solve the broken car issues to satisfaction.

When I finally got through to a customer service rep (their support center must have one person manning the phones, be prepared to call for hours and to be put on hold and to be hung up on). So instead of charging me 392 minus the 150 deposit, they charged my card 542 and said they would refund my deposit in 3-7 business days. They're making interest on the float and in the meantime I'm paying for that $150. It should be classed as a scam - won't be renting from there again.

Indeed, I had to stand in a big line to get my car, but the line wasn't much bigger than the ones you see in other companies, and the price I was paying was great. The staff that dealt with me was friendly and polite and I was very satisfied with the car. The USD 150 deposit took almost one week to be refunded and I was concerned as reviews on the internet had been very critical with charging and refunds, but I received the refund after a week. The only point that could be improved is the customer service phone, as it's not that easy to get someone on the phone to talk to you.

We get to LAX and I have to call them because they are not in the airport - you have to catch their shuttle. So we do and it's an old run down shuttle bus with a man who can't speak English. He takes us miles away from the airport it seems to this place and I guess a few us like the price. We go to the counter and I had put the card in my husband's name but I didn't bring his credit card just mine. He said he would have to run his credit and I said “No, use mine.” And so I then was the primary driver.

We were told there would not be an extra charge but there was. Told us that their gas was cheaper and it was but then they charged us extra taxes and fees than a gas station would have charged and then of course he scared us into insurance which you don't need if you have insurance. Anyway I just checked my credit card account and see where they charged us double of what I agreed to. Be careful of all their hidden costs. Don't add anything and get your own gas!!! It was a compact and they charged us $60.

I'm writing to warn anyone about using the "services" of this company. They may put your life in danger and run from the responsibility! We got a car with a technical error which led to a tire that exploded in the middle of the highway. We were lucky to guide the car to the side of the road, but it could easily have been a fatal accident. There was no spare tire in the trunk even though they're not allowed to rent out a car without it.

We called Fox-rent-a-car road service immediately after the accident, but it took them 4 hours to get to us even though our car was in a dangerous spot in a curve of the highway, which meant that the police had to be there to warn the other cars. Because of the delay, we were unable to get to our plane home in time and had to stay in the US for two more days. Afterwards we contacted their customer service and after several weeks, they wrote back that they were willing to cover the plane ticket and motel bill. We reluctantly accepted even though the accident was very expensive in phone bills and loss of earnings. We waited with patience for the check, but it never came. I wrote to the customer coordinator several times, but got no reply. So I called customer services again after several months and got in touch with the same coordinator who assured us that the money were coming and that she was sorry for not replying.

Since then I have been writing to the coordinator over and over again, but I never get any replies. Just now I called customer services again 4 months(!!!) after the first email. I got in touch with the most rude guy in customer service telling me that there is nothing in the system about a refund and nothing he will do about it. This is just a short version of the story and I could write many more details about how horrible this company is. I have never in my life been treated this badly before and I can only warn all you people out there from using this fraud company. Terrible experience. Booked through Priceline and it turned out to be Fox Rent a Car which Is operated at Heathrow by Easirent. Firstly, Hotel Hoppa shuttle bus driver denied me a free trip despite having the rental confirmation and I had to pay 5 pounds to get to the Sheraton Skyline Hotel for the rental location. Renal office is unsigned and pretty gritty and dirty, a bit smelly, generally unfriendly. Big problem with my pre-booked CDW and all damage waiver, which was booked through Priceline at the time the rental was booked.

At the rental location Fox would not allow me to proceed with the rental until I purchased their own CDW as they required written proof of the alternative. I had emails from Priceline with my name and the policy purchased and separately the actual policy document, however this was not sufficient as they were requiring this all to be in one document with my name and address on it. Called the ins company and they were unable to send the requested document as they don't issue personalized policy docs. This was still not good enough for Fox. They wouldn't accept the MasterCard CDW either that is provided by the card when you purchase the rental with the card (for the same reason). So I ended up paying 17 pounds (GBP) per day additional for the CDW and damage waiver. So the whole thing took over an hour.

After the rental I called Fox customer services and they couldn't give me a straight answer. In fact the representative didn't know the difference between third party liability and CDW was and eventually cut me off. Have filed a complaint and refund request for the additional charges through Priceline. Have also subsequently cancelled another future Fox booking. Upon return of the car they identified a tiny nick in one of the tires and spent 10 mins debating whether they would charge me for a new tire, which I'm pleased to say eventually they didn't. I don't know who writes their customer satisfaction manual, but they should take a good look at it and make some serious changes. Will never recommend, will never use again.

This was, flat out, the worst car rental experience I have ever had. The airport shuttle was supposed to come every 10 minutes. We waited for more than 20. The shuttle was packed with luggage blocking the only door. We were sitting in the front so I told my wife to rush to the counter when the door opens and I would handle the luggage. She managed to be third in line. There were about 15 people in line in back of us.

There were only two service people at the counter and they were S-L-O-W. It took another 20 minutes for us to get to the counter. As we were being processed, the computer went down. The counter person told us it happens it lot. We were supposed to get a Corolla or similar. All we could get was a smaller Chevy Sonic.

Two nights later, we were on our way to a wedding when the GPS we had brought with us ran out of charge. Why? It turns out the cigarette lighter electrical outlet wasn't working and wasn't keeping the GPS charged. So we got lost and missed the beginning of the ceremony.

The next day we returned the car for a trade and saw an even longer line in the rental office. The rental office was chaotic but we managed to get a replacement without waiting in line. They gave us another small car instead of the size car we reserved. This one had a loose trunk rubber gasket. Fox is cheap. And there's a good reason. I will never use Fox again.

The office manager stated that she'd be over in "five minutes" to pick us up at the airport.

After waiting 45 minutes, it was evident that no one was coming to pick us up. My wife walked to the Fox office. Arriving at the Fox office, she found the staff sitting around chatting. A reminder that our group, including an 18-month old, were waiting for pick-up at the airport was met with blank stares. The agent stated that they did not have a van and did not know when they would have a van. And, no, they would not pay our taxi fare to destination while they secured a van. And, no, they would not find a van from another car rental agency and secure it on our behalf.

An assistant was sent over to fetch the other six members of our group from the airport - in a FIAT 500! Comical if it weren't so frustrating at that point. A Jeep was subsequently sent. An hour later, the Fox office produced a small SUV and said that was all they could do. We took it. During the two weeks we were in PV, we never heard from the Fox office, never saw the van we rented, and were never again contacted. On the plus side, they did pro-rate the SUV charges, based on January 2014 rental rates. As many on this site have vowed, never again with this incompetent car rental company!

Never ever rent a car from Fox! Before renting a car from Fox beware of the following: You may get a faulty car that may break on you. If the car breaks down, you will be referred to a local repair shop [since they have very few locations mostly in airports and cannot offer you replacements] and may ruin your trip. You will be asked to drop the car off-the airport, take a shuttle that would not drop you - NOT at your terminal, but at a place, where you can take the "airport shuttle" to reach your terminal in Las Vegas. Fox will only reimburse you of the day that the car spent at the airport, and will not offer you any compensation for ruining your holiday.

Here goes the story as I've shared with their customer service: I had picked up one of your cars from SFO on Dec 24th and returned it in Las Vegas on January 1st. In the middle of my trip, I had a brake problem [the car trembled and started to lose control when I pressed the brakes], and had to leave the car at the repair shop in Santa Barbara that you've referred to, from 10am to 5pm on 29th. The shop found multiple faults [like corrosion on the positive cable end, front tire rip and warped front rotors] on the car, and had to replace "2 front rotors, 1 brake pad".

This almost full-day problem has ruined a day of my trip and I've expressed my complaint as I returned it in Las Vegas and asked for compensation. The person who dealt with my case, said he was sorry and told me that he would take "two-days off" of my bill. I said, "that's fine," and rushed to catch the shuttle to the airport where my kids were waiting me for. Only after I've left, I realized that it was not "two-days off" in the real sense, since the $50 reduction is merely the one day worth of car+liability for the day that it spent at the repair shop. I've immediately called the customer service, but they referred me to the Billing department, and suggest to call on Jan 2nd. I've tried calling Billing dept on Friday with no luck and finally reached them today. The person at the billing department told me that it was 1 day compensation, and that was it, before hanging up on me.

Documents clearly show that you've handed me a faulty car, which not only put my family at risk, but also ruined a whole day of my trip. Deducting the one-day cost of the car merely takes to the repair time off my bill, and has no compensation for the trouble that you've caused. Renting, not properly maintained cars, to customers and letting them handle the repairs on their own times, may sound like good way to cut costs at the expense of your customers' time, without bothering to at least provide some sort of a compensation to acknowledge your fault. I would like you to know that I will never be using your service in the future but will also make every effort to publicize this incident with the public in every way and warn them against similar experiences.

We reserved an SUV in Oct 2014 for Dec 28 2014. Upon arriving we were told that they were overbooked by 700 cars due to 3rd-party reservations. We were told that the only car available was a Toyota Corolla!!! They still had cars in the lot but would not budge on the Corolla. We ended up going into a Chrysler 300 for a huge up charge. We were told we would receive the $250.00 deposit back when returning the car. We returned the car 3 days early and were due a credit for that. Our credit was $260.31. We were ripped off in every sense of the word. Also, they were nearly impossible to be reached by telephone. If we had not pre-paid we would have gotten on to a bus and taken to several different car rental places until a car was available. Many people were inconvenienced. TOTALLY SHYSTER OPERATION.

We rented a car on X-mas eve in Miami. When we got to the car rental office a few minutes before midnight, it was packed with one person working the counter. It was late, our kids were tired but we had to stand in line for an hour and a half. It was disappointing, I called the main office only to be told that "we know, we tried to reach all the supervisors 3 times but no one picks up." This is coming from a national company! But that was only the beginning of the horror. We finally get to the desk to rent. I reserved a standard car as we have 2 kids and luggage. We were advised that all cars from that class were already rented and all they had were the Chevy Camaro. The reservation agent readily conceded that there is no way we will fit in the car but we have to take it as there is nothing else left. We were further explained that reservation is NOT a guarantee of anything and either we take the car or else... It's first come first serve.

Meanwhile, while waiting in line I walked around and I knew that there was at least one car in the back that was the size we needed. When requested that car we were told that we did NOT RESERVE THAT CAR and it was slated for someone else WHO RESERVED IT. At that point both I and my wife felt totally insulted... "FIRST COME FIRST SERVE" in one breath and "YOU DID NOT RESERVE IT" in the next. It was after 1:30am on Christmas day, we were angry and made it clear we are not budging. Finally after 20 minutes of bickering, miraculously another car appeared that would fit us. It is painful to think that had we not caused a scene we would have been screwed!!!!

In a few days we tried to call the main office and talk to a supervisor. Never got thru. Supervisor is an answering machine and never a live person.. We didn't feel like leaving a message and tried a number of times to get through. No such luck. Do they think we will come back to Fox to rent again? NOT A CHANCE. Luckily the car we got was totally adequate.

When you rent a car and it's dark and rainy and the car looks black to you and the next day it's green and you still point out 4 obvious imperfections that were not included on the contract, does that company still have any credibility on their self-inspections of their cars. Fox rental company rented me a car. I pointed out that the car had 2 broken hub caps and a key mark down 2 doors and a quarter panel dent that they had to add to my contract. These were so obvious that I saw them at night in the rain. But then I return the car during the day and they say I owe the $275 for repairs to the paint for swirl marks that are obviously from them cleaning their car. This was in Florida where there is bugs and sand everywhere. They neglect to admit it could of been them cleaning the car and their poor inspections that could of caused this whole problem. Instead the manager would rather lie to me and insult my intelligence by telling me they don't wash or buff their cars. That they only rinse them with water and let them air dry. Here take a look. What do you think?

Arrived in Fort Lauderdale to a filthy, run-down hovel. HUGE line of people picking up cars for the holiday week, only three slots behind the counter. No eye contact, no desire to move things along. Agent seemed angry with us for declining their exorbitant insurance fee. Finally our paperwork was done and we were sent out to the lot - no one there to tell us where to find our car. Brought us out a Ford Fusion after an hour and a half wait. Loaded up our luggage and proceeded to the long line of cars waiting to exit their lot... yes, another line for a scary-looking dude in the checkout booth to check the paperwork and let us out - at least 10 minutes per car if not 20. Finally it's our turn. They won't release our car b/c apparently it's overdue for an oil change.

They don't tell us anything... we wait about 20 minutes and finally lose our cool..."Will someone PLEASE tell us what's going on!?" We are given another car and off we go. No apologies, no explanation, no eye contact. A total "don't give a damn" attitude which was infuriating. Returning the car at 3 am a week later, we go to the gate that the sign directed us to and no one was there to open it. An employee walked across the parking lot, looked right at us, and walked away. Luckily the shuttle bus driver was arriving and opened it b/c he had to get in himself. With a shred of hope, we were pleased there was only one person in line. It was an angry father trying to extend their rental for one more day in person (he'd been told he needed to do it in person).

Guess what? The "in person" person told him "no walkups" and that the price was double what he'd been quoted. He asked to call customer service - got an answering machine. No manager, nothing. He was screwed. I'm sure I'm forgetting numerous other delightful things - but every customer in line that we saw hated this place. Never again. Oh, did I mention they charged us double the online reservation quote?

Fox Rent-a-Car would not be worth the trouble even if the rate was a dollar a day. First of all, at Las Vegas, you have to catch a SECOND shuttle to get to the rental counter so it is inconvenient if you're arriving late at night. I was quoted a certain rate from a third party booking site. I expect to pay that rate, unless informed otherwise. Secondly, the workers are painfully slow compared to any of the other major car rental companies. Be prepared to wait a LONG time. Thirdly, Fox tacked on a LORLC charge on top of my daily rate (a late OR early charge) when returning the car because I rented the car longer than the original contract, even though I paid the daily rate for the correct number the days. This LORLC charge was never mentioned nor printed under the "Estimated Total Time & Mileage" section of the Rental Agreement. Then fourth, it took me almost two weeks to talk to a live person in the billing department. You can use the "contact us" button on their website, but no one will contact you. If you're successful in getting a live person on the phone, they'll take down your name and number and tell you that someone will call, but no one will return your call.

Today, I was shocked when someone actually picked up the phone on my first try of the day. This person explained that if your pick up or return date differs from the original reservation in any way, you will be charged a LORLC charge PER DAY. This will be IN ADDITION to the normal daily rate that you're already paying. And they won't mention this to you when you pick up the car. I picked up my car 3 days early. They had inventory available. My Rental Agreement clearly stated the daily rate for all the days I had the car. But when I returned the car I was charged the LORLC (think "change fee") in addition. Fox Car Rental is nickel-and-diming customers just like the airlines. I do not recommend Fox Car Rental at all. Stick with the national brands. The national brands may be slow, but Fox is even slower, more inconvenient, not customer service accessible, and sneakier in the way they do business.

Horrible experience and bad customer service. First of all rude person at the counter wouldn't even look up to talk to me. Tells me he won't accept my card because it says debit on it. Of course I called ahead of time to see if that would be the case and they told me all I had to have was a return flight ticket and a deposit. The point is he wouldn't even run the card. When I called the 800 number to inquire I was told that it was up to the agent at the counter. Keep in mind I was fresh off a 6 hour flight from half way around the globe. When I asked to speak to the manager I was told "my manager won't talk to you." I usually use Enterprise so I called them and explained and was able to get a car with a better deal, no problem. Overall Fox Rent a Car has bad customer service. I guess they could care less about the customer. I would never recommend them to anyone.

I made an online reservation with Fox Rent A Car for a full-size car for seven days. It was my first experience with Fox. I received a confirmation that listed a total charge of $255.91. When at the pick-up counter, I was asked which vehicle I would like. The two options that I was given were: a Toyota Camry or a Dodge Charger. Since I had never driven a Charger and thought that it would be fun to try a different car, I selected that vehicle. When she reviewed the contract with me prior to signing, it reflected a higher total. She pointed this out to me and said that it was higher because of a $150.00 deposit that would be refunded when the vehicle was returned. Accepting her explanation for the difference, I initialed and signed the agreement.

When I returned the vehicle and received the final receipt, I calculated that total minus the $150.00 deposit and saw that the balance was higher than the agreed-upon amount. The attendant then informed me that the Charger was a "Premium" Full-size that carried an additional charge of $12.25 per day. When I argued with the attendant that I was never told about the price difference, she told me that, since I initialed and signed the agreement, there was nothing that she could do about it. I then asked her, "Is this really that way that Fox does business?" And her reply was, "Is this really the way that you do business?" referring to the fact that I had initialed and signed the contract. I have been a business traveler for 45 years and this was, from beginning to end, the most unpleasant and deliberately misleading transaction that I have ever experienced.

When we called the Fox Car with the situation the rental indifferently said they were charging anyway because it was a prepaid, the charge will apply no matter the hurricane. No big deal. We rent car at least 5 or 6 time a year, with better companies, Thrifty and Hertz, so don't go to this low end rental: not worth it. We paid the price for a bad choice.

When I arrived, I was asked if I wanted to upgrade for an additional fee. After leaving with the car, we realized something was broken and returned it. We were then lied to and told another convertible would be waiting for us. We were still charged an additional fee for the car. When we walked out to pick up the car, it was a hard top. I recently rented a car from them during June 18 to the 29, 2014. Instead of returning my $150 deposit, they proceeded to charged me an additional $169. I disputed the two charges through my credit card. During the investigation, Fox claimed the charge was for additional insurance. I called BS on that and showed my credit card company the original itinerary of how much the total is INCLUDING insurance. After several weeks, my credit card called me up and said Fox now claimed the charges is due to to returning the car five days late on July 4.

My credit card asked me to provide any proofs that showed I did not returned the car on July 4. I unfortunately deleted my airfare itinerary in my email, but instead I went through my browser history and provided them a screenshot of June 29 of me going to AA.com for early check in. I waited several weeks and my credit card now said Visa is siding with Fox, because they have the paperwork of my signature when I "returned the car on July 4".

This was is a serious WTF. Not only did they lie, but now they're forging documentation with my signature. I proceeded to tell my credit card company to please take a look at all my transactions after June 29, how can I return the car on July 4 from Los Angeles, when all my transactions are in MD, VA, and DC. Along with the transactions, I have an email from American Airline stating my itinerary leaving on the 29th. At the moment, this charge is still in pending dispute territory. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

My husband and I and younger son arrived on that Saturday and the rest of the party were coming in that Sunday. First of all we were waiting in the designated area outside baggage claim. We saw the driver approaching the area and he doesn't stop. My husband had to run after the van waving his arms to get him to stop. When we got to the location it took over an hour to get processed. All these people that came after us were getting their cars and my husband is still inside dealing with this person named VJ that was going on and on about surfing and what not.

Secondly they would not allow us to prepay for the other car that was to be picked up the following day by our son… Told we would have to take both cars which was not what we wanted as we were staying 45 minutes away. So when we decided not to do that, we were assured that everything would be in place for pickup Sunday and all they would need was that persons credit card. So when our family arrived at the house on Sunday. Oh they got the car alright... with an additional charge of over 200.00 dollars. This VJ person talked him into the additional insurance. My son took it only because he thought it was what his father arranged. When we called the toll free nbr they told us we would have to come back to the location to get it removed - that would of taken us over 90 mins. When we returned the cars the following Sat, we addressed the complaint and were advised they could do nothing. I will never use your company again or recommend it.

In fact it explicitly states that CDW is optional if my Credit Card will cover. My CC does cover for the additional insurance, but Easirent would not accept that even when I told them that I travel/rent many times a year & have always had my CC cover additional insurance. I then refused to take the car & cancelled reservation. However this ended up in at least 2 hours wasted - very disconcerting after you have done an overnight flight from US & just want to get to your destination.

Also their rental agreement stated that Airport/Car Rental location transit was free with a bus service. It was only free to the Rental location. I had to pay pounds 5 to get back to the airport. I put in a customer complaint at their website on Aug 26 & got no response. Then I called their customer service yesterday Sept 2nd and spoke with Bianca. She told me that I had to call a number in UK. I did not agree that I should have to call UK, since my rental booking was with them. I asked to speak with a manager and was told none is available.

To FOX Rent a Car, reservation is a piece of **. In my case, FOX acted like a team of half educated gangsters, who picked up a signboard with letters "Promise is Promise" and held it high but actually didn't understand what it means in business world. I have been working in San Jose since 2011. On 7/21/2014, I made a reservation (through RentalCars.com) with FOX Rent a Car for renting a Convertible for two days for a planned vacation. I thought I found a great deal, better than the best one offered by Costco Travel (in price wise), which was recommended by a friend who had bad experience with FOX. My friend warned me: never do business with FOX. I ignored the warning and now I am regretted for not listening.

When I went to FOX to pick up my reserved convertible at San Jose International Airport, I was told that all convertibles are gone (I found out later that the two young college girls who queued just in front of me have taken the last convertible, might be upgraded to due to their charm). The representative threw back my reservation without any remedy or apology. I could clear sense that he was saying: "This is not my problem. Just go to hell with no convertible. I don't care where you get this reservation."

This is the first time for me to experience in America that a reservation can be just a piece of **. I didn't argue as I usually did in business transactions, because it happened that the representatives are not white. Luckily when I was very anxious and frustrated, one representative was willing to help and went around checking with other companies. Luckily enough, there was one convertible left in Enterprise, but the price would be 200% more. I had no choice but took it. However, if I reserved the convertible from Enterprise through Costco Travel, the price would be much cheaper. For current management of (or the particular one representative at) FOX, reservation can be a piece of **. Folks, watch out for your wallet!

We rented a car (via Travelocity) with Fox at SEA-TAC for our vacation on the San Juan islands on August 7. Immediately upon approaching the representative to give our reservation confirmation number, she tried to upsell us to a convertible. Not exactly a friendly greeting. When we declined, she then tried to convince us that we wanted a Ford Mustang instead of the economy/compact class we had selected online. When we said we wanted a more fuel-efficient car, she lied to us, alleging that the Mustang would have the same gas mileage. She then continued to lie, saying that if we wanted a economy/compact car we would have to wait because there weren't any ready. When we insisted, suddenly there was a Chevy Spark available. No explanations of the contract or added fees/insurance was given, aside from trying to sell us some kind of additional collision/liability insurance, which we declined. We were then rushed through the rest of the rental process and sent down to get our car. End of episode 1.

Episode 2: After that bit of unprofessional customer "service", we went to get our car. The attendant vaguely pointed out which car was ours, without bothering to get out of her chair, and we walked past a half-dozen of their other Chevy Sparks (which, presumably, weren't "ready" - see above) to ours. So far, so good. Entering the car for the first time was quite a shock - the interior smelled so bad we had to roll all the windows down to keep from getting sick, and even that did not quite do the trick. But we figured the smell would go away soon, and we were on a fairly tight schedule, so we sat with it. Wrong assessment.

This noxious smell persisted throughout our trip (lasting over a week), and needless to say, was a rather unwelcome contrast to the natural outdoor experience we were hoping to have. Obviously some kind of industrial-strength desiccant cleaning chemicals had been used in it, and were still painfully present. The air in the car, thick with these obvious toxins, dried our throats quite painfully and gave us headaches whenever we drove. I can't possibly exaggerate the stench of this car. It was like a slap in the face every time we opened the door to get in, and really made every minute of the driving awful - and I'm pretty accustomed to smelly cars. We left the windows rolled down every chance we could, including overnight at our cabin, to try to dissipate it, but it remained impossible to ignore.

Also, about 75 miles into our journey, the tire pressure warning light comes on - one of the rear tires was almost twenty pounds low, as we discovered at the service station. Guess this car hadn't been "ready" after all. Maybe the fact that half of the lug-nut covers were missing and the front license plate was held on with zip-ties should have tipped us off.

Episode 3: Upon returning the car, I was stuck with a lot of fees and charges that had not been mentioned before signing the contract (as the representative seemed to be much more focused on renting us a car that we did not want, than discussing the particulars of the rental) - INCLUDING the insurance that we had explicitly declined. At this point, I am anticipating filing a formal complaint with the company regarding this, along with the rest of the issues.

Total amount for the week was as follows: Rental rate charges $90.07, Mia priv fee 4.5% $14.72, Fltax 7.0% $24.50, Surcharge $14.00, Approx. estimated total $143.92. When I got there, I ask the Customer Services representative that was taking care of my reservation if it was possible for me to use my car insurance policy, which was full coverage insurance, and he reply, "No, we do not accept other Insurance except the one that we provided."

To make the story short, he applies the lost damages waiver insurance to my rental and the total went up to $393.75. He said that I needed that Insurance because if something happened and I didn't have that coverage I will be responsible for any incident that occurs with the car and that the company will go after me, my house my bank account and any other assets to recover their loss. When I got home I call my Insurance company and they said that yes, my insurance covered my rental and in case of any emergency and the only money that I needed to pay was my deductible, which was only $500.00 because I had full covered Insurance.

I was so angry due to the fact that they deceived, lie, misinformed, took advantage of my persona (maybe because they saw that I was an old lady and it was easy for them to trick me), and I went back to return the car. When I got there, I confronted the same representative that attended my reservation and he said keep the car until tomorrow because anyways they are going to charge you for a full day and I said, that I did not want the car and that you have a grace period of 3 hours. He called the Store Manager, named Alex (I asked him for his last name and he said that they do not give their last name to anyone a very rude personality to be a Manager), and charged me $72.43. The total amount that they charged my Debit card was $543.00, including the $150.00 that they retain until the rental return.

If you read the portion of their rules, in reference to the GRACE PERIOD, it reads: "Grace Period - A rental day is each 24-hour time period commencing with the date/time indicated on the rental agreement (contract) at the time of rental. There is a 59 minutes grace period for return. Hourly charges may apply after this grace period. After three hours, full-day charge may apply." Therefore, I need them to return my money immediately and charge me only for the portion of the time I took the car from their premises, which was from 07:58 Pm to 9:38 PM (and 9:30PM because they had me on hold sending me from one place to the other looking for Alex The Manager). Also, the money that they charged me will not be returned into my account until the end of August. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, DECEIVING AND WRONG! THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS. I AM A 65-YEAR-OLD LADY AND THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ME!!!

He then says, "Okay, now I need you to sign here, here, here and here." I'm not gonna read all the fine print and plus, he already won my trust by coming across as a nice guy. When asking what the "LDW" part of the form is, he told me, "It waives liability. The $19.99 is what it'd cost if you purchase it." Ok! Sounds good, so I initialed. Little did I know, he conned me into thinking I'd be waiving the liability, when in fact he just made commission off of me, because it was the total opposite! I actually signed acknowledging that I'd take it!

Few days pass and I return the car, get my receipt from the return station person. Who is completely ignoring me, because he's talking to his friend about USA playing in the World Cup the day before. He hands me the receipt and says, "You should see the $150.00 returned to you in a couple of days." I preceded to the shuttle pick up. While waiting, I look over my receipt. Not only did I get charged $305.63 ($150 being returned though) but I also got charged for car insurance that I had DECLINED! I went in the store to ask the female salesperson about it and she directed me to speak with her manager.

Store manager comes over to the counter without greeting me or asking how can he help. He flat out blatantly says, "Look, you initialed saying you'd take the car insurance. You can just walk up in here the day you're returning the car and say you don't want it no more." Implying that I was a liar as he held the rental agreement in my face smirking. I explained that I had declined it THAT DAY because my credit card company was assuming responsibility for the insurance. He shakes his head at me gesturing as though I'm wrong and says, "$19.99 was you acknowledging. Maybe next time you should read it before you sign." Realizing that I was basically speaking to a wall and that I had already missed 2 shuttles to the OTHER car rental location. I decided to call when I get home, otherwise, I probably miss my flight.

When I got home, I called the customer service number. Spoke with a woman named "Peggy". She was very helpful and clearly exceeded her customer service. Unfortunately due to the 4th of July holiday, most of their offices were closed until Monday. She then suggested for me to call and ask for Peter.

So I waited 3 days and called back to speak with Peter. ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES, later I finally got ahold of Peter, because FOX RENT A CAR WILL LET THE PHONE RING AND RING FOR ABOUT 8 MINUTES STRAIGHT AND PROCEED TO HANG UP ON YOU SHORTLY AFTER! Peter went off a report the store manager "had wrote up" and basically said I was lying as well and the most he could do was offer me a 20% discount off my next purchase! HELL NO! BECAUSE I'M NEVER COMING BACK!!!! I told him why would I need 20% off when it's clear I'm not coming back. He then says that the store manager "stated that he'd offer me a 20% discount off at that time but I refused it." I WAS NEVER OFFERED ANYTHING! Peter then sides again with the manager and says that's all he can do. Was the 20% what "Roger" made off of me in his commission sale? Bottom line, I had taken the car insurance THIS would not have been a big deal, BUT because I had TOLD "Roger" NO, MORE THAN ONCE and he still CHARGED ME, this is unacceptable! It's deceiving, and flat out WRONG! THIS WHOLE STORE NEEDS A LESSON ON HOW TO TREAT A CUSTOMER, HONESTY, AND TRUE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I reserved a mini-van from Fox Rental Car in January for a family trip in July. My husband's sister and her family were coming in from Ireland. We were going to drive up the California coast with them. In June, my husband rented a car from them to take our daughter to a dance competition in Disneyland. When we went to pick up the car in June, we asked if what it would cost to pick up the van that we had reserved for July's trip earlier than what we had stated on the reservation. We initially had a pick-up time of 7:00 PM and asked what it would cost to pick it up at 1:00 PM. We were told that it would cost an extra day's rental fee of about $60.00. Based on that information, we booked a hotel in Las Vegas and I took an extra day of work so that we could start our trip a day earlier than planned.

About a week before our July trip, my husband received a toll citation stating that the rental car he had been driving in California in June was illegally driving in a toll lane. He knew that he was not the driver of the car on the citation because the license the plates on the citation were Utah plates and the plates on the car he rented were from Arizona. Also, he had never driven in the area that the citation was issued in. He called the number on the citation and was told that they would investigate and he would hear from someone a few days later. In the meantime, the toll fees were escalating. Since we needed to get this issue resolved before our family trip - I called the customer service line to see where they were at on the issue. I was told that he was, that the car he had rented, a white Buick Regal, was swapped out 2 hours later for a blue Toyota Camry. This was the car that was on the citation.

I told her that he did not swap out the car - he was always driving the white Buick. She said she would have someone call me later. I never received a call. In the meantime, my husband received and email from Fox Rental Car stating that the car was in fact not swapped out. The next day we went up to pick up the van at the Salt Lake City location - the one that they said would could pick up early for an additional day's rental fee or $64.00. We were told that there would be an additional day's fee plus an additional fee of $15 per day of the rental. We were renting the car for 14 days, which would be an additional $210.00 on top of the extra day's rental fee. We told them that we were told it would only be an extra day's rent and they basically said too bad. Either pay the fee or come back 5 HOURS later.

(By the way, I couldn't find anything in the contract that we received stating that there would be an additional fee of $15 per day). Because we still had the issue of the citation, I mentioned this because we needed to know what if we needed to do anything, so we would not receive any warrants. All he said was, "Didn't you get the email?" I was furious! No apology for the citation error - no apology for the error in rental fees. When I asked to speak to the general manager they said, "He's not in". I left a message on his voicemail - have not heard back from him. I did not want to rent the van from them, but there were no other cars available at other rental places, but I will NEVER NEVER NEVER rent from them again!!!!! Their consumer service line is HORRIBLE. The customer service at the SALT LAKE location is HORRIBLE. I will never rent a car from them again. I am also very concerned that the citation issue will never be resolved.

I rented a car from John Wayne airport, which by the way is a 15 minute ride from the airport. My flight was changed and I needed to find a flight back home. I worked with the airline and found a flight but it was leaving from LAX a red eye. I called Fox, no problem they said. My total rental for the 3 days I spent here was $100.23. I needed to change to LAX and my charge for doing this was $109. So my cheap rental turned into a very expensive 3 day rental. Anything they could add to the bill they did. Nice to see they take care of their customers.

Fox Rental Car at Fort Myers was nothing but trouble. The person helping me tried to get me to upgrade my car. No problem, I rent all the time, I can deal with it. I politely declined. She then went through the speech about insurance, which I also declined. Then she told me insurance is REQUIRED in Florida. I asked her why, and she said, "Things are different than where you're from." It sounded fishy to me, but I went along with it, knowing I could research and fix the issue.

So I took the car. Later that day, I found out it indeed was a lie, and called. It was a Saturday, and customer service is only open on weekdays, so I waited. I was on vacation, so I simply forgot to call on Monday. I called Tuesday, and spoke with someone who told me, yes, I could get a refund, but I needed to go back to the rental store. I was in Key West and the closest rental place was 5 hours away. I told her that I would be back that Saturday and could they take care of me then. She said yes.

I asked to talk to the manager at the Fort Myers location to file a complaint against the individual. Apparently, that's not possible. So I returned the car the next week and was told that this manager would email the other manager and try to get him to call me. I had to catch a flight, so okay, I had to go along with it. When I didn't hear from the manager in a week, I called Fox corporate again. They told me, "Sorry, since your contract is closed, we can't issue the refund, but we'll email the manager at Fort Myers." I told them that had already been done and he wouldn't call me. "Well, we'll send another email. Nothing else we can do." Apparently calling managers is now no longer allowed. I don't judge a company by 1 or 2 rogue employees, but when the entire company refuses to call or email me back after 3 weeks, I say it's just bad business.

Fox Rent A Car located in San Jose airport has horrible customer service. The girl at the counter was texting on her personal phone and chewing gum in front of me while she was talking. Never said thank you or please, didn't smile, and gave me dirty looks. Couldn't answer none of my questions & to top it off, I paid late fees. I got an extension on the car I rented from them and ended up paying $10 per day on top of the car rate per day.

I call corporate and their 1-800 customer service number. I was told even though you get an extension, they will always charge those $10 extra. It doesn't matter if you call or not to get an extension, you will get charged. On the website says to avoid late fees, extend your reservation. Will never rent from them again horrible service and they're a ripoff.

Apparently nothing because their customer service is non-existent. BEWARE! Minus 5 stars for this location and minus 1 star for Fox overall! As many have already stated before me their customer service is awful and they lie to try and up sell you on another car. They rarely honor their own web prices and the cars are poorly maintained. Also, every associate does not show empathy or try to make the customer feel needed, especially at this location. I work for a very large employer in SJ and was asked to test a few car rental providers so we could set everyone up with a rewards and consistent customer service team. We have decided to go back and stick to Hertz. You get what you pay for.

As for all those who have mentioned the up sell and price gouging, I feel if a few of us got together we could probably discover some sort of class action suit that could easily be brought against Fox. This past rental I did they said the car that was reserved wasn't available. Upon heading to pick up the replacement car we saw the car class we requested in the garage. We asked if it was available and they said yes. Due to time though we had to take the car we had. This time I wasn't up charged but it made me wonder about past experiences and if they tell you the 20-30 minutes speech only to get you to spend more. Might be a good false advertising move or a bad PR campaign that could be launched based on this. San Jose has a ton of smart internet savvy individuals. Let's do this!

I recently rented from Fox in Phoenix and they pulled a fast one on me. After I told the customer service agent that I did not want insurance coverage, he added it to my order form after I signed it. When I returned the vehicle, naturally I noticed that I was being charged for insurance. I complained immediately and was told they could not help me at the airport and I would need to call their service number. I called the number the next day and was told they are only open during the week. When I finally spoke with a representative she said that it was too late and that since I signed the form, I was responsible. It didn't matter that I had told them I did not want the insurance or that I had signed off on getting a car without insurance. She said there was no way to prove my case and since the car was returned there was nothing she could do.

I will never rent from this company again and suggest that you do the same.

This review is for my experience at ONT. Customer service on pickup was slow (two people at the counter dealing with one phone call) while all customers waited. The supervisor was abrupt and condescending to the employee who was the one actually on the phone and never even looked up to try to help the waiting customers. When the seemingly endless back and forth between the two and the client who was apparently trying to arrange for a return and pick up of another vehicle actually terminated, the junior employee assumed a similar tone as his supervisor with me, the customer. Then he kept pushing their insurance which I never get, having full coverage from two sources myself. His final words as I went out the door were, "If anything happens, even a blown tire, it is out of your pocket".

They are off site, not something that I was made aware of in booking. One has to take the airport shuttle service from the arrival terminal to another site where most rental car agencies are located and there wait for the Fox shuttle (20-25 minutes in my case) for a shuttle to the off-site Fox location. Procedure is reversed on return. One has to find his way through all this in that none of it is explained in advance or even on-site (through adequate signage). Finally, the car was not in great condition; it occasionally made a loud screeching noise that sounded electronic but I could never find it. At first I thought it was out of the radio, but when I turned the radio off, the screeching continued. Sound eventually went away but returned periodically and unpredictably. I did not tell them about the problem on return for fear that "it would have been out of (my) pocket".
