I rented a car from Fox just for a weekend trip to the Keys. On my way, one of the tire blew off and we were left stranded in the bridge during the middle of the night. I called their roadside assistance, but there was no response even after being on hold for 20 minutes. I then called AAA and they towed my car to the nearest repair shop. The towing company looked at the tire and mentioned that were no nails. Next morning I called Fox. They asked me to go ahead and change the new tire and bring the damaged tire along with me. They mentioned that they have to run a report against the tire and will reimburse me if they found it was not my fault.
I dropped the car along with the damaged tire and the manager told me that someone will call me to get full details. To my surprise, weeks passed by and nobody called me back. I tried reaching them and they keep on transferring from billing to roadside assistance department. I believe, they at least owe me a report on stating what happened to the tire. On side note, the car didn't have a spare tire. The customer rep. also tried to sell me the toll. When I said I don't need one, his response was "How do you go to Keys from Miami without paying tolls?" as if I was a tourist. When I responded "Just take US 1," he gave me a confused.

When traveling to Colorado, our flight was delayed. We called Fox to let them know and ensure there would be the make/type (4 wheel drive) when we arrived late. Was on hold for 38 mins. Thank goodness we had a long layover. When returning, called again to be sure where to drop off the vehicle, on hold for 40 mins, and the automated voice came on and said the party you're trying to reach is unavailable. Message capacity is full and hung up. Won't EVER rent from Fox again!!!

Arrived in LAX, waited for 82 minutes for a mini-van. Then waited for 57 minutes for customer service, and then I waited another 45 minutes for car that never came. Finally, tired and ready to go to sleep, I settled for any four wheels. A week later I find that they have charged to my credit card the full amount in advance plus $150 deposit. Again, the worse car rental experience ever.

I am WARNING all customers thinking of renting from FOX CAR RENTAL in Orlando Florida to refrain from doing so! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RECONSIDER! I rented a vehicle from there from Feb 7th 2016 - Feb 18th, 2016. It was the worst experience of my life! When we picked up the vehicle it was 8 pm in the evening, it was in a strange location and was quite dark and dingy! Little did I know that would be the least of my worries! The agents on the desk were not bad but we were told to go pick out a car. Every car was well used and had lots of wear and tear. Anyway, we checked it all over and signed off with the agents and off we went. An hour into our travels and the tire light comes on and from that moment forward our nightmare began!
We would park the car and come out it would have no air in the tire at one point. We were getting on a cruise for 4 days and when we returned back to the car the tire was near off the rim, it was so low. We tried for 10 days to contact customer service through phone and email. Nothing. We just wanted to see what the best thing for us to do was considering we were 2 hrs from where we rented it. Thank goodness we were with family that carried a portable pump. We had two children driving with us and it was quite nerve-wracking wondering if this car was safe on the roads.
Needless to say, we got no response from emails or messages left and when we returned it I simply got, "I am sorry for your inconvenience!" I lost it... you're sorry? Are you kidding me! In the end we had to catch a flight and leave and she said she would give us $50 off the rental. What a joke. NEVER EVER EVER WILL I EVER CONSIDER THIS COMPANY!! They did not care about the safety of my family or their customers. They are lucky I haven't gone any further with this!!!

I booked our rental car for a week long business trip through orbitz.com, a trusted and well known company. I picked Fox Rent A Car because it was the cheapest and for the time of year we were traveling everything was outrageous in price. We picked the insurance because it was only going to cost us an extra $63.00. When we get to the place everyone in line in front of us were complaining and getting mad and when it got to our time to go to the desk we then realized why. Fox Rent A Car does not honor the rates that third party sites or companies give. So instead of spending $280.00 like our receipt from Orbitz said, we walk out of the stupid company with a bill of $525.00 (which includes their $150.00 refund deposit) also because they charge $8.99 a day for the SunPass when each toll was only $.75 if we even went through one. And then the first car they gave us was broken! Never again!!

My wife and I chose them because their policy states there is no additional charge to add a spouse or domestic partner as an additional driver. The attendant claimed that once he entered a different last name the computer charged for an additional driver and that there was no way to change it. My wife uses her maiden name. I told him to put us down as domestic partners if that would work for him! He asked me if we had any proof that we were married! Really!!! Our driver's licences show the same address. We asked to speak to a manager. He claimed there was none on site but he would call one. He made a call and started looking after other customers. After waiting for about 20 minutes we asked when we would hear from the manager. He claimed he did not know! This is unacceptable! We left never to return! We took our business to Enterprise! Same policy but they honor theirs! I would recommend Enterprise to anyone! FOX...you suck!

Fox Rent A Car in Phoenix - Cheaters, liars and scammers! Charged me $250 in taxes and "fees" after already paid $142 online. Charged me for insurance I said I didn't want. I booked everything online and it was $354.81 minus the hold till I showed up $57.81. It said online taxes included. When I got there it was $666.81. I rented the car for 15 day. It should of been $297 plus the $150 not $666.81. They charged me for another driver. It was only me driving the car. I did buy my own toll pass so I was not charged for that. I am returning the car next day and I am demanding my money back. I am very pissed at this company.

DO NOT RENT FROM FOX RENT A CAR. I've been waiting a week for my $150 deposit. I'm a college student. I don't have much money and right now I have no money for food until I get the deposit back or I get my check from work next week. I only rented the car in Florida to drive to my father's funeral. I'm angry I was taken advantage of. The guy at the counter told me it was required to get their insurance. It's not. I have car insurance for my own car that I could use. I was also told that there's a million tolls in Florida and I had to get the $8.99 a day SunPass. I didn't go through a single toll. I even told the salesperson where I was driving to and he explain the specific roads I would drive on to get there had tolls. They didn't. He lied.
Nowhere online did it say how much these extra fees would cost. I paid for the car online for about $30 and then left the counter paying an extra $120 that I wasn't expecting. I'm pissed I was taken advantage of. I'm going to report them to the Better Business Bureau and I hope everyone else that has issues with them does the same. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM.

The Fox Car Rental website was not working on Feb. 9, 2016. On 3 separate occasions I tried to finalize my reservation and all 3 times I was told I had to log onto my account. The sad thing was I WAS already log onto my account. I tried to call customer support (was on hold for 20 minutes), and then encounter a very rude customer service rep. I request to speak with his supervisor and he informed me it was not possible. I sent an email to complain, and 4 days later I am still waiting for a response (company policy states they will respond within 48 hours).
The following day, I was able to make a reservation but I never received an email confirmation. I called this evening - was on hold for 25 minutes and was the cut off. I called back and was on hold for 35 minutes and spoke to a very nice representative. She apologized for the wait and said they were clearly understaffed. Bottom line, we get what we pay for... Low prices = HORRIBLE customer service.

Toll amount was $21.30. I think that is a total rip off that they being that the first bill they sent me showed that my toll fees were $10.75 and a outrageous admin fee of $60.00 total $70.30. I paid it thinking this was outrageous but easier to pay it and never use them again. Then I receive another bill stating that my toll charges is $21.30 plus a admin fee of $90.00. I rented from FOX at Denver International Airport a mid sized 4x4 to take into the mountains skiing. (Jeep Cherokee or similar) The price I found at economybookings.com was very reasonable and I paid in advance. My experience: 1/2 hr wait for a shuttle. Bait and switch to a cuv WITHOUT 4X4! When I questioned why I wasn't getting what I paid for they said I could spend more money for a larger suv that had 4x4. While we were in Denver it snowed 14" and in the mountains it snowed every single day. They have laws requiring either 4x4, or snow tires, or chains in the mountains when it snows like this. Besides being unsafe, the fines for a violation are hefty. The FOX agent knew these laws, knew I was heading to the mountains, and knew a major storm was predicted. The car he rented to us didn't even have an ice scraper! And the check engine light was on most of the week! STAY AWAY!!!

Warning - Understand the fine print before you sign. Upon returning from a cruise we were waylaid in Tampa due to a huge snowstorm that hit the East coast in January 2016. Our original flight home on SW was scheduled for Sunday 1/24 but they cancelled and couldn't reschedule us until Wednesday 1/27. Fox was the cheapest rental we could find, so we rented until Wednesday.
After calling SW multiple times we were able to schedule a flight into PHL on Tuesday from Orlando. I returned to Fox and explained our situation. Vejay at the counter originally said "the drop off charge in Orlando could be as high as $300 plus the early termination fee". Early termination fee? Essentially they wanted to, and did, charge us a fee (daily) for an early drop off plus the original daily rate that we agreed to. After considerable dickering we settled on a total charge that doubled our original contracted price. Vejay said, "didn't your salesperson explain the early drop off fees"? "No!" We felt as if we were being held hostage by an unreasonable practice that double dipped for the agreed daily fee plus an early drop off fee.
On top of this Fox gets the car back into their inventory for re-renting. A later internet search revealed this to be a common practice at Fox. Other renters have circumvented this practice by parking the car in their customer lot and calling them on the last day of rental. If you have their roadside assistance, place keys in car, park near Fox and call roadside assistance. Best advice, however, is to rent with a more reputable company. Lesson learned. Cheaper is not always better!

I had to wait in a line for about 45 minutes, only to go and pick up my car and find about 15 people in front of me waiting for their cars. The car was dirty. The representative tried to convince me to upgrade as my 4 cylinder Toyota Camry would never make it up the mountains to Sedona. Would love to communicate that comment to Toyota. I tried to call the customer service line to speak with a supervisor, only to be told there was no supervisor to speak to. The best they could do for me was to give me a 10% discount on my next car rental. Should have paid the 10% more on another company and forgo the hassles. I reserved the car online with Fox with total of $139 for 4 days, declined the insurance online. We picked up the car at the LAX location. Declined the car insurance and requested the prepaid fuel. The guy at the counter was helping 2 other customers at the same time when doing my paperwork. When dropping off the car, noticed being charged for the declined car insurance. Tried disputing the charges with supervisor, explained what happened, suggested to supervisor that maybe that guy had gotten our contract info mixed up with the other customers but still didn't want to reverse those charges. I'd give negative stars if it was an option. We were renting a vehicle in Colorado from out of state. I was not familiar with the process for non-cash toll states. Rental agent asked if we needed a toll pass, we discussed where I would need to be driving and she indicated it shouldn't be needed but didn't give any explanation of how to know if on a toll road or how to avoid toll ways or what I would be billed if I inadvertently incurred a toll. Then I get a bill in the mail several weeks later with a couple very small tolls due to explicitly leaving and returning to the Fox rental place plus $45 of Fox Rental "administration fees" with no option except to pay. Calling Fox Tolls and Fines did result in a one time reduction of 50% of the admin fees however I feel like they know exactly what they are doing and are using these fees to unfairly over charge people. I will not rent from them again.

I rented a car through Fox Rent a Car in Denver in December. They had the best rates and the car was fine. The shock came a month later when I was charged $106 for tolls. $16 was for the tolls themselves and $90 was for "Administrative fees". As the tolls are electronic and I am sure their system is automated, I have no idea what "administration" is required, but charging almost 600% more than the original toll amount is an outrage and a deceptive business practice as this charge was never highlighted in the agreement. I will never use Fox again.

Fox, up until our last trip to Florida in October, was the go-to place for a good deal on a car rental. Well, no more. They have changed their toll by plate fees to the level of thievery. You are charged $8.99 a day up to $134.85 in a 15 day period plus tolls. If you rent for over this, back to the $8.99 plus tolls again. If you have ever driven a car on the east coast of Florida or around Miami or Fort Lauderdale, you know it is almost impossible to not use a toll road. Well, Fox has now joined the rip-off car rental toll charges hall of fame along with Thrifty and Dollar.

The first negative customer service event that occurred was when I had to change my return date. I had scheduled my car return for the night of 12/25. I had to change it to the morning of 12/26 because American Airlines changed my flight. First of all, I was not able to make the change online, even though the site has a link that indicates where to go to make changes. That was a little frustrating. But, I called. The agent I spoke to told me it would cost an extra $50 or so for late charges and an extra day. That made no sense. It wasn't an extra day. I had rented the car for a week starting 12/19 at 11:00 and was returning it on 12/26 at 8:00. The agent insisted it was an extra day. And, how could there be both an extra day charge and late fees?? I decided I would deal with it at the pick-up counter, and left the reservation as it was.
Fortunately the agent at the counter was more knowledgeable and handled the transaction properly. At that point I was pleased and my confidence in your company picked up. I picked up the car on 12/19 as planned and was driving it, a Nissan Sentra, initially from San Diego to Indian Wells, CA and then on to LA a few days later. The route from San Diego to Indian Wells includes two very winding roads through the mountains, which I have never driven before. On the first, CA-79, the car died in the middle of this two lane road in the mountains. Fortunately, two very nice women stopped to help, and we pushed the car back about 100 feet onto an intersecting road, so the car was in a safe place not interfering with the flow of traffic. I told the women they could leave me, thinking I would call Fox and be rescued shortly.
Unfortunately, after they left I found out my phone did not work in that area. I flagged down a car, and another wonderful woman stopped to help. Her phone service worked, so I called your roadside assistance number. It took about 15 minutes for someone to answer, while I'm using a stranger's phone. I was told it would take 2 hours for me to get another car because the nearest Fox location was at Ontario airport. Having to wait by myself for two hours in the mountains was a little scary, but there was nothing I could do about it. That took place at about 1:00 pm. I flagged down another car so I could call my family and tell them I would be late!
By about 3:30 nobody had shown up. I had to flag down another car to call roadside assistance again. I was then told that the car was coming from LAX, 120 miles away, and the tow truck driver was in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It would be another 2 hours. The traffic had already slowed down; it was getting cold; I had no food and no more water; and in an hour or so it would be dark. And I, a 71-year-old woman, would be by myself in what had become a very desolate area. I was extremely on edge waiting for the new car to arrive, especially not having any phone service.
At around 5:30 the tow truck arrived, and I started to calm down. Then I saw that my new vehicle was a Dodge Caravan. For me that was worse than waiting almost 5 hours for it to show up. I am 5 1 and have never felt comfortable driving a regular-size sedan, much less a van. I told the tow truck driver I didn't think I could drive that vehicle. He was very rude to me. He said something like "too bad lady, that's what you got." I understand that he just drove almost 5 hours in heavy traffic and was in a bad mood, but I just spent 5 hours by myself in a cold, dark, isolated mountain area and then am confronted with one of my worst nightmares, having to drive a big vehicle! I would have felt a little better if he had said something helpful or calming, like I'll show you what to do, or it's not so hard to drive.
I reluctantly resigned myself to having to drive that vehicle since I obviously had no choice. I asked the driver to help me transfer my heavy luggage from one vehicle to the other and he said "no, it's your luggage!" I was kind of shocked. I told him I couldn't do it myself and we would have to stay where we were all night unless he helped me. He finally did. Then I got in the van, and couldn't even find the gear shift, which was on the dashboard. I had never seen that before. It had no letters. I asked him how I know what gear I'm in. He told me to stop acting like a kindergartener. At that point I shut the window and locked the door. He was making me very uncomfortable.
I spent awhile trying to adjust my mirrors (impossible in the pitch black), finding the lights, and setting my phone GPS. The tow truck driver started yelling at me that I needed to move so he could get going. He made me so uncomfortable that I left without knowing where everything was. CA-79 was a winding road, as I mentioned; but the net road, CA-74, made CA-79 look like a straight away. My brother later told me that people who drive that road all the time during daylight will not drive it at night. Here I am, never having driven the road before, uncomfortable in such a large vehicle, no side view mirrors, driving very slowly and hoping for the best. Fortunately there were not many cars on the road.
At one point my windows fogged up. I didn't know where the defroster switch was; I couldn't reach the windshield with my hand to wipe it clean and I couldn't see in front of me. I couldn't see to my right either. I was afraid to pull over. Finally I had to cross my fingers and pull over. I could have been pulling into a ditch for all I knew. But I thought that would be preferable to running into a car or an animal. After turning on the defroster, the rest of my trip was uneventful. But, when I got out of the vehicle almost two hours later my hands, neck and back really hurt from the tension.
The following morning, 12/20, I called customer service, gave them a brief accounting of what had happened and asked for a different vehicle. I was told that I would have to drive to LAX to get another car. I was actually going to be driving to LA on the 21st, which is why I wanted another car. I felt that my driving the van again for 2-1/2 hours was an accident waiting to happen! I knew once I got to LA, I could ride with others and not have to deal with the van much, except to return it. I made no headway with your agent; I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. I doubted that. The manager would most likely not have been answering the phone. I ended up driving the van to LA and only using it when I had to once I was there.
The morning I was returning home, the 26th, I left early for the airport because I do not like to have to run. I prefer a leisurely breakfast at the airport. Unfortunately, when I dropped the van off, I was charged for fuel that I had already paid for with the first vehicle. I then had to go to the pick-up counter to get it straightened out. That took about an hour and then I had to wait 20 minutes for the van to the airport, having just missed one. That mistake caused me to have to settle for a cup of coffee on the run at the airport. The agent who fixed the fuel charge error gave me a 5% discount for my trouble. That would have been appropriate if my trouble had only been my arriving at the airport much later than I had planned.

All in all I ended paying about $40 per day! It seems that the trick Fox Cancun uses is to list very low prices with Expedia to hook customers, to then force us to pay the real price through an outrageous insurance. Fox in Cancun is linked to ACE car rental, with whom I also had insurance problems in the past (in San Antonio). I rented a car, dropped it off, and my camera must have fallen out of my suitcase onto the back floor. Upon finding out my camera was missing, I tried calling Fox Miami within an hour, but only answering machines are available in Miami. If they had a line for talking, I could've saved it. It's gone, according to Fox now. I found garbage under the seats, so I know they don't clean the cars. If they had, and they were really a legit company, they would've found it and called me. So either Fox themselves stole it or the next renter stole it. Fox is blaming the next renter of course. As they don't clean the cars before they rent it again, it could've been the next renter. I was in a rush, as the woman who gave me directions to drop off the car was wrong, and I was lost for an hour in Miami looking for the rental drop-off. At the time of pickup, the CSR told us that I had two options as far as the toll system worked in the state of Florida: (1) To purchase their SunPass Plan of $8.99 per day which would cover all tools up to $150.00 for the week or (2) Purchase nothing and get charged $15.00 plus the cost of each toll that we went through. The CSR said these were our only two options because you can no longer pay cash for tolls in the state of Florida...ever...anywhere. So I took option 1. After leaving the Tampa office I drove through a toll and guess what, you can pay cash! All of the toll booths that I drove through the rest of the week you could pay cash. I would have spent a total of $12.50 had I not taken any of Fox Rent-A-Cars options.
When I went to turn the car in I spoke with the manager after waiting for over a 1/2 hour, who then said there was NOTHING he could do, or would do to make the situation better. You never told me that the tolls are billed electronically. It is a shame that a company like yours have to take advantage of unknowing travelers to fatten their coffers. You use the system to defraud drivers knowing well enough that there are no places at exits to pay the toll if/when one has inadvertently taken a tolled road. I understand that you need to have a service charge to prepare the paperwork, after all manpower is not free although everything is done by computers now a day. Yet, for a total of $3.18 total tolls, you charged me $60.00 service charge. You should know that everywhere, this is called 'Usury'.
You may hide behind the saying that "The government allows us to do it" to feel smug about my complaint. Shame on you!!! First of all we have to take two different shuttles to get to the place where you pick up the car not to mention if you have to carry baggage with you. The service is the worse than taking two shuttles in the middle of snowing weather. The worst was not yet to come. On December 14, 2015 we flew to the McCarran International airport Las Vegas, Nevada.
During the checked out, the worker at the window tried to sell an insurance to us. We knew we didn't have to buy extra insurance, but it was almost Christmas my husband thought we would made the guy's day. So we bought $19.99/day insurance for four days. And it was a very cold day and late night we decided to pay for it so we can get going. There was $150.00 deposit charged which exceeded the rental price. Moreover, the guy continued to upsell the gas price. We took it. So the total price was $ 313.50. When we received the car, it was a Toyota Prius Eco car, the seat look dirty with some leftover residue like somebody have been live out in the car. We were too tired to say anything. The second day, December 16, 2015 we had a flat tire on the right front in the middle of snow.
I called Roadside Customer service, he told me that he had to charge me for changing the spare tire service. I told him never mind I will call AAA if I had to. We have actually paid for the insurance and roadside assistance the day that we picked up the car. The Roadside customer service told us it wasn't included in our service plan. December 17, 2015 when we had to return the car. There was an accident on the South Las Vegas Blvd., police department blocked intersections for over 2 miles. We drove in circles and politely asking the police officer if we can cut through the corner of 8801 Fox Rent a Car. We didn't even finished our sentences. Police told us "I cannot help you".
While my husband was driving, I was on the phone with Roadside Service approximately thirty minutes wait time for phone support. I asked the representative on the phone if we can arrange the drop off the car somewhere else. She told me that she had to talk to her manager first. After a while, she came back with the answer and directed us to drop off at the airport parking where it wont be tow away (pay for fee). We dropped the car at the airport and almost missed our flight back home. When I got home I sent another e-mail to make sure they understand that they had to pick up a return car at the terminal 1 airport at McCarran International airport on December 17, 2015.
The customer service representative agreed that she will notify the roadside service to pick up the return car. Seven days later, Fox had continued to charge my credit card for the following. In addition, did not return my $150.00 deposit. On 12/21/2015 charged amount of $ 62.88, 12/26/2015 charged amount of $ 359.79, 12/28/2015 charged amount of $ 143.91, and on 12/30/2015 charged amount of $ 143.92. They overcharge us and they use the credit card they have on records to charge us on different fees that weren't explained before. We were charged after we dropped off the car total of $ 710.50 after fifteen days renting.
This is a crime. We decided to contact our Credit card Company to let them know about unauthorized charged, then, contact an airport supervisor if Fox had picked up the rental car yet. They didn't. What an unethical service after fifteen days. I don't mind paying for a few days for the airport parking fee, but not fifteen days. I attempted to make another call this time I spent 58.33 minutes on the phone with them to make sure they will arrange for the pick-up date and time. They had told me they will call me when they have the roadside service worker at the airport parking to let me know about the charges before taking the car back to Fox Company on January 2, 2016.
There was no sign of them for the pick-up the rental car. Up until today, while the parking fee is continue to accumulate $23.00/day the price of the airport parking fee is $ 391. Furthermore, Fox branch manager and supervisor at the airport Las Vegas are continuing on non-response to my calls and my e-mails. Total costs to rent the damn car is currently at $ 710.50+ $ 391= $ 1,101 (this is not included $ 313.50 original charged).
I don't have to say about my experiences with them. You can tell. In fact, I would like to hear from the reader if they have any better ideas. Please if you're going to throw a criticism save it for your own karma. I do not need it right now. I do not have sit in front of computer and typing to post if I don't want anyone else to fall for this trap. I appreciated everybody that shared their experiences, so we can be aware of tourist trap. FYI, we are thinking of flying back to Las Vegas just to get the damn car out of the airport ourselves. The only problem is the airfare this week costs $500-$1200 round trip.

Never told that in Colorado tolls are billed electronically. Fox doesn't tell you then charges you $15 administrative fee PER TOLL. What a scam. Will never rent from them again due to their dishonesty. Also, took 1 hour from time of pulling in lot to return car to being dropped off at airport. Ridiculous.

I made my reservation through rentalcars.com for my reservation to be picked up at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. I had never heard of Fox Rental Cars before and was a bit skeptical but I decided to go with them anyway because I wanted a sports car. HUGE MISTAKE. Apparently you do not have to be professional, nor know how to speak in full sentences which was displayed by the illiterate representative behind the counter.
For all intents and purposes his name was **. He was more worried about "following company policies" than being professional and retaining a customer. He tried to upsell me on insurance, a full tank of overpriced gas, more insurance and he also tried to cheat me out of a price change in the daily rate. His excuse for everything was it's in the fine print, I am just following my companies policies. After he knew I was thoroughly upset, he smugly says, "I can hold your reservation and you can go to another company." It was 2 days before Christmas, he knew and I knew, all of the other companies were out of cars, this is why I ended up at BOOTLEG Fox in the first place.
I made a reservation for a Dodge Challenger or something similar but when I got to the counter, I couldn't get a sports car because I didn't have a major credit card. So he tells me he can "accommodate" with a full size for the same price but they will have to run my credit. EVEN ENTERPRISE DOESN'T RUN CREDIT. If you are going to run my credit, why wouldn't you just give me the sports car. I ended up with a standard car, a credit check, my driver's license copied and who knows what will happen to it and a "deposit" on my account. But it gets better as the upselling begins.
Then he tells me I "better" get coverage through fox because "you made a mistake going through a third party company". I had already paid for 6 days of full coverage online I didn't need additional insurance whether it was third party or not. After a minute insurance debate, he asks if I want to prepay for gas. At this point I felt like he was finding any and every reason to make a sale like they are commission based.
Finally we get through all of the hoops and it comes down to the paperwork. Apparently if you keep one of these bootleg cars a minute passed your reservation, your rate per day goes up almost $16 per day. If you turn your car in early, you are still charged your daily rate plus almost $16 for each last day of your reservation but "not to exceed" your reservation amount. So after I sign my life away, I go downstairs to get my car. The woman at the desk was very patient and didn't deserve my attitude but good ol' Walter messed it up for EVERYONE at Fox that I had to come in contact with. Initially they gave me a Toyota Camry. The seats were absolutely filthy and I felt like if I would have sat on one I would have needed a Tetanus shot so I asked for another car. She then gave me a gently used Kia Optima which was sufficient.
Because I am anal and I wanted to see my reservation plus the "discount" for the downgrade she let me see the screen. I honestly don't believe she even knew what the comments meant, but good ol' Walter, who couldn't even spell made it seem like I was livid for no reason. I mean this man couldn't even spell could. In his world Cud=Could. But I guess you don't have to know how to spell or be professional at Fox. All in all this was the WORST experience for a rental car. I am willing to pay the extra for Enterprise, there is nothing hidden and I get professionalism with a smile.

During checking, their sales guy went hard on me telling me that there was a special insurance to take on this island. I said politely that I was covered and would pass on it. He wanted me to call my insurance in the US and told me that otherwise I would have to pay for the loss of the rental time if something happened to the car and that in some cases it could take months to repair a car. He also told me it was mandatory on this island. The sale was so hard, had my kids and wife waiting. I said I will take it but was unsatisfied and will report it.
Suddenly Mr. TY **, the so called General manager (they are only 3 in this shop) instructed his "insurance sales" guy-Carlitos, to cancel my reservation. Fantastic welcome for my first trip to Kauai - standing there with no more car, family and kids. So unprofessional, forcing sales on insurance, lying on telling you that they are mandatory what a bad first taste for such a beautiful island. Wish the tourist department could check what the General Manager Mr. Ty ** is doing . This is how bad reputation for tourists' destination do start. Unfortunately, discovered on yelp as well that there are many complaints about those individuals and their borderline approach. The only positive part of this experience was the lady driving their shuttle. Trying to help and being nice.

I was charged $8.00 for tolls in Denver plus a $45 administrative fee to pay for a 3rd party collection agency. Even though the rental agreement states that I am liable for these charges I was not informed adequately on the toll roads in Denver that I would encounter and the fact that the toll roads only perform electronic billing (i.e. no toll booths for cash payments). The administrative charges are excessive as are charges that would cover tolls on the rental agreement. I will avoid Fox Rental Cars in the future. Not worth the hassle and hidden charge potential.

Fox Rent a Car at Kauai in Hawaii is a tourist trap! They are a bunch of crooks. Don't rent from them! Long story short, they set up the car to lock you out on purpose. I left the key in the car with the engine running, and stepped outside for a couple of seconds. All four doors automatically locked. When I called them, they would charge $150 to come and unlock the car. Kauai is a small island, they didn't have to drive far.
When I returned the car, they claimed that there was some damage to the rim of a window. For that, they were going to call the cop and file a police report. They refused to take me back to the airport unless I pay them a hefty sum. I refused to be had by them and walked away from their lot with my large suitcases. They are 10 minutes away from the airport in the middle of nowhere. No taxi driving by. No cell phone coverage even. Fortunately, there were two tourists in a store behind me and they were kind enough to give me a ride to the airport.
The way they operate is this: They charge the lowest weekly rate $140 vs the second lowest $160. They make $150 if you get locked out. I am sure a good percentage of their customers get locked out. Then they hit you with minor damages and hold you hostage until you agree to a large sum of money. If you don't pay, they won't take you back to the airport and you are almost certain to miss your flight.

The car we rented was fine, other than the service soon light kept coming on. We notified the company upon return of the vehicle & they thanked us. The problem was mainly with the shuttle drivers, they were so unfriendly and rude, one in particular, his name was Odny, in Orlando, Florida. He arrived to leave people at the rental location, and was supposed to be taking us back to airport. Well after leaving people off, he just closed the door to the shuttle. I was standing there, with my luggage ready to board. I yelled out to him, he opened the door, reached for my luggage, grabbing it out of my hand, and threw it on the luggage rack. I couldn't contain my anger at that point, and we had a yelling match. He never apologized for anything, horrible customer service attitude!

I live in Austin, TX and rented from Fox in Seattle, WA. The only reason they seem cheap is because they nickel and dime you for everything. If you expect to get even basic roadside assistance in case the car breaks down, you have to pay extra. If I could give them negative stars, I would. On February 25, 2015, my family and I were visiting the Seattle area and needed to rent a car and, on the surface, Fox seemed the cheapest, so we chose them.
We drove the car down to Portland, OR that evening and spent the night. The next morning while visiting the falls at a State Park, the passengers-side window was broken into and some personal belonging were stolen. In trying to contact Customer Service around 1:30 in the afternoon, initially, no one would answer the phone and, when the automated system finally picked up, I was on hold for almost 45 minutes before actually getting to speak with someone. Then, when speaking with the man who finally did answer, I was simply trying to make sure another car would be available when we got back to Seattle, but the guy was rude and unwilling to even listen to what I was trying to ask. He said that he couldn't/wouldn't do anything for me until I had a claim number from my insurance company and, basically, hung up on me.
I then spent the next 4 hours on the phone with the sheriff's office, insurance companies, credit card companies, banks, and even the U.S. State Department trying to arrange for my wife's passport replacement. When I finally received a claim number from my auto insurance company, I again spent 45 to 50 minutes on hold trying to contact the Fox Customer Service office. Strike number 4. Number 5 happened when I got the same rude individual on the phone and he reluctantly confirmed that another car would be available when we returned to the SEA-TAC airport. The only shining moment I could find for Fox was the older manager on duty at Fox in Seattle that evening around 7:30 or 8. I really wish I could remember her name. She met us in the garage and was very helpful and kind in getting us another car. She actually seemed concerned about the hell of a day we had already been through.
Fast forward 6 1/2 months later. On September 9th, I received an email from a customer service rep saying I owed $308.90 for the damage to the window. As it turns out, I had a $500 deductible on my insurance policy that I wasn't aware of. I thought that for theft and related matters I was covered more fully. I tried contacting the rep by phone, but she would never return any of my calls. On September 15th, I was finally contacted by another rep. She suggested I contact my Visa card company and turn the claim into them. However, even on appeal, Visa has rejected the claim due to not filing within a timely manner.
The fact that it had been 6 1/2 month since the break-in and theft and the email on September 9th was the first word on the matter I had heard from anyone! The invoice from the window company shows that the glass was replaced on February 27th. Why would it take 6 1/2 months before Fox bothered to contact me? Not only did I pay for the rental with my Visa card, but I had also taken out a travel insurance policy for the trip. Both of these entities would have covered the claim if they had been notified within 45 days.
I certainly understand that I chose not to pay for the roadside assistance or the extra CDW. I thought, however, that I was covered by any number of the options available to me and would have been if I had only known in a timely manner. I believe that Fox Rent a Car bears at least some of the burden for failing to at least keep me in the loop on the claim during the preceding 6 1/2 months. That on top of the horrid and disrespectful treatment I received from Fox with the exception of the one individual, makes it a pretty hard pill to swallow.
I've since tried to contact Fox Rent a Car's upper management via email: Sean Busking - Chief Operating Officer, Mike Jabouri - Co-founder, Operations and Business Development, Mark Mirtorabi - Co-founder, Fleet Administration, and Allen Rezapour, Co-founder, Accounting and Finance. All I asked is that someone review the situation and that I felt that Fox should have been at least be partially on the hook for failing to keep me in the loop regarding the matter. None of them have bothered to respond in any form which further lowers my opinion of Fox. Now, "customer service" is threatening to turn the matter over to a collection agency if I don't pay the full $308.90. Never use FOX Rent a Car!

We rented a car for our latest trip to Barbados (November 19 for 2 weeks). Before we left I sent an email to CarRentals.com to reconfirm our quoted price because I had a feeling something was going to go wrong. We arrived in Barbados and couldn't find a rep from Fox anywhere. We asked another rep from another car rental place where we would find the rep and we were informed that someone would eventually show up. Fox does not have an office at the airport. The reps just hang around the benches outside the arrivals area. The rep from the other place actually called the Fox rep for us and someone came approx an hour later. We got our car and were very disappointed.
We did the paperwork in the parking lot and I told the rep that we were quoted in Canadian funds and the total he was putting on the paperwork in Barbados funds didn't look right. But we were tired from the flight and having to wait for him (and he really didn't seem to care) and I didn't want to get in argument so we took the car and went on our way. I also didn't know we were renting a wreck. The car was in very bad condition. Every bump we thought a tire or the bumper was going to fly off. Upon our return home our visa bill came in and sure enough the amount charged was more than the agreement. I immediately sent car rentals.com an email about this but of course have not heard back from anyone. We just want to be sure that others who use this company are aware of this. I was told to be careful with Fox as they have had negative reviews but I didn't take heed.

The car was fine, pickup and drop off was fine, however 6 weeks later when I received a notice slamming me with a $45 administrative fee for driving on an automated toll road (toll was $8) I am much less impressed. At no point renting the car was it made clear to me that I was likely to encounter toll roads that would automatically generate these fees with seemingly no option to self pay the tolls. In talking to "customer service" and the collection agency they told me that I had opted into this, but again at no time while renting the car was this made clear. Really hard to see this as anything other than a SCAM. Also, am getting the complete runaround trying to talk to the company about this.
The notice I received directed me to foxtollsandfines.com who tell me they can't help and to call Fox customer service, who tell me they can't help and to call foxtollsandfines etc etc. I was also told to file a dispute online through the foxtollsandfines website and after filling in all the information and hitting submit, whaddayaknow my dispute could not me processed at this time, try again later. They don't respect Expedia prices or contracts. We made the reservation on Expedia for 66 dollars for the car rental for the full week including insurance. When we arrived at Fox Rental they confirmed we had a reservation made through Expedia for 66 dollars for the week as part of a package. The representative told us that the only options were: 29 dollars per day + a 30,000 mxn hold on the card + an open voucher + tax or 37 dollars per day + a 5,000 mxn hold on the card + an open voucher + tax or 45 dollars per day + a 1,500 mxn hold on the card + open voucher + tax. We did not plan on bringing a card that could have the 30,000 hold on it, so we would have to go with the most expensive one.
I showed my Expedia reservation and charges to the rep, and he did acknowledge he saw the reservation in his system, but his exact words were "you and I both know there is no such thing as a one dollar reservation." We had also planned this trip considering a car... So we had to pay for one of the prices above to get a car since the company Fox Rental did not acknowledge the contract with Expedia. We had to wait 40 minutes to pick up the car, even though they did charge us for the reservation. When we returned the car we had to wait another 30 minutes for the bus. When we told them we would miss our plane they did give us a ride to the airport in one of the rental cars. We've since filed a complaint with Expedia... But we are definitely never using this company again.

The customer service was abysmal. Not to mention being quoted one weekly price of 257$ and being charged 615$ at the end. The lady who wrote our contract made it seem easy and streamlined. We asked to drop the insurance and not pay for roadside assistance. We also asked if we could extend the car at the EXACT same rate and she said "yes".
Later, we called in and extended for 6 days. When we turned in the car they informed us about all types of hidden fees. All of a sudden there was a 20$ daily extension fee. Then We found out that we actually paid for the insurance and roadside assistance when she plainly and specifically told us it wasn't included in our service plan. When we asked to speak to a manager, a disgruntled, overworked and extremely unprofessional man came and told us that it was too late to change anything. To reiterate - the Fox representative who wrote our contract promised all types of cheap rates and waived fees. Then when we turned in the car, the price ballooned to an unbelievable rate. We actually had to pay an exorbitant amount.
I am a travel blogger with a nice following, and the second we rode off of the lot I started singing Fox Rental's praises. It was easy and quick. I wrote a long supportive review of the company, to publish when I left California, encouraging my followers to use their service. Good thing I never published it. Now I will let everyone know about their shady business practices, and their average 30 minute wait time for phone support. 100% disappointed with this service. Will never use again.

After 2 hours of discussing and calling argus.com they said they would let him drive but he would have to leave a deposit of 250 cash. We agreed and then the counter woman tells us about the additional insurance and while we were discussing whether to take it or not (in Spanish) the woman prints the contract with the insurance included. We say, "No we don't want it." She says she can't do anything - the contract is ready. I booked a car a couple of months in advance - picked up in Miami and dropped off in Orlando 7 days later. I took a cab to the scummy location in Miami near the airport and should have ran to another rental company. It was rundown and filthy. The car was parked inside which was nice in terms of it not being too hot, but it meant that I didn't see what I was getting. I ended up with an OLD Ford Fusion with 46,000 miles on it, bald tires, squeaky brakes, no air filtering, and a burned out headlight. Did I mention how FILTHY it was on the inside? Disgusting. Unidentified slime on the inside of the windows, no evidence of any cleaning on the dash or steering wheel or console.
I had to stop at a Target and buy some wipes to clean it up. It took almost an entire container and 35 minutes before I would get back inside. They should have paid ME for doing their job and I shudder to think of how dirty those wipes were. I was on a tight timeline so I felt like I had no other choice but to take the car and deal with it later. I knew that they aren't a huge company but I didn't expect that there were so few locations - so it would have been a huge ordeal to take it back mid-trip and exchange it for something remotely worth renting.
The dropoff in Orlando was also suspect - their location is about 10 minutes away from the airport by shuttle and I honestly feared for my safety as I dropped off the car at night and hustled my way across broken pavement in an understaffed parking lot to the shuttle. It's in the middle of nowhere and it is NOT secure by any means.
I regret that my rushed itinerary made me feel like I had few other options. I should have left myself some more time to deal with this at the beginning and not have to accept a garbage car from a terrible company. I'm guessing they take old rentals from other companies who actually pride themselves on offering decent cars to people and then keep renting them out to idiots like me.
I called to complain and got mysteriously disconnected. Of course, my email has been ignored. The charges that were explained to me have been accurate on my card so far - I'm going to be monitoring them to make sure they don't hit me with charges after. Spend a LITTLE extra and rent from a real company. Learn from me and all of the others on here who didn't take that advice.

Hi everybody, just sharing my horrible experience with Fox Rent A Car in Baja California in November. First of all we arrived in La Paz with our reservation for a car in the medium category. We had already paid 1300 pesos on the website and thought that was almost all we will had to pay because nothing was detailed on the website (except the young driver additional price 1600 pesos). But when we arrived in the "office" of Fox they started telling us that we will have an economic car (very small) because according to them it was the same category as medium. Thanks to a lot of discussion we finally ended to get the car we wanted (and paid for) but the women told us that she was making us a favor... Then she started to talk to us about the insurance.
At final we ended up to pay 8000 pesos more between the insurance and apparently the car as well (because according to them the thing we paid was like the commission... So when we left the office with our car we had paid almost 9000 pesos, so basically 560$ :( And then we had during the trip, we had an accident but fortunately we were obliged to pay the insurance so we didn't had to buy a new car. However we still had to pay the truck that help us join the city again (5800 pesos). In total we paid 14151 pesos for 10 days and the service. Help and everything from Fox was crap!!! I rented a car through Rentalcars.com from FOX RENT A CAR Las Vegas last month. The drop off time I selected was 4 PM but the printout comes without AM or PM. Fox car rental pick up paper works shows 4 AM which I didn't notice. I returned the car by 3:50 PM. They charged me one day extra with penalty (52per day, the normal charge was 17.85 per day). The unfriendly customer service took a long time in the line to finish the paper works and that caused us to miss our returned flight from Las Vegas to Seattle. These unpleasant circumstances made a tremendous amount of stress, frustration and financial loss to our family including two little kids.

After booking a car with Fox Rent A Car, I read many negative reviews about the company. Because the price was so reasonable, I decided to take a chance and keep the booking. We booked a rental car with Fox Car Rental online before leaving Canada. We booked the car to be picked up at San Jose Airport in California and to be dropped off at San Diego Airport 9 days later.
The Fox Rental location is right beside the San Jose airport. From the time we arrived at the rental place until we were driving away in the type of car we had requested was LESS THAN 20 MINUTES!!! The Fox Rental location in San Diego is a 5-minute drive from the San Diego airport. They provide FREE shuttle service to the airport. When we returned the car (9 days later in San Diego), by the time we got our luggage from the trunk of the car the receipt for the EXACT amount we were expecting was handed to us and we were on our way on the shuttle to the airport!
The main complaint we read about the company was the charge for going through tolls which people did not account for before renting the vehicle. We decided to opt for the "plate pass" for $11.49/day to cover any tolls we may have encountered. That way we did not need to worry about the number of tolls we went through as they would be totally covered. Just like getting a speeding ticket while driving a rental car, the renter must pay for that ticket. The same goes for tolls.
I don't understand why renters are upset when they are told they need to pay for these things. If you don't opt to take the "plate pass" coverage and you go through a toll, you will be charged $16.49/day. It's simply a matter of knowing this upfront and/or ASKING at the desk when renting. We were TOTALLY SATISFIED with FOX RENT A CAR and will not hesitate to rent from this company again the next time we're travelling in the U.S.

The woman that greeted us at the car rental counter was less than nice/friendly. She was downright rude. She pressured us to get the car insurance and when we declined her response was bordering on nasty. There was an $8.99 per day charge for a second driver. I don't think we've ever paid that with Avis or Hertz. The car we were given was (I'm sure) a lower class of car than we had paid for. It was 1 1/2 years old, had 40,000 miles on it and sounded like it was not going to last our trip. The inside was dirty, there was a burn mark on the driver seat and the floor rug (no mat) was shredded. Never will rent from Fox again. They don't end up being cheaper and the quality of the car was very poor.

I finally went to get my car to find they gave me a much smaller car than reserved. Went back to counter again to finally be given a bigger car. By then I was exhausted, signed three contracts and was just ready to leave. I had requested to bring car back empty and prepay them to fill up.
I returned car, was late for my flight and was charged over $100 for gas. I tried to tell them what happened with rental and signing three contracts, but went on deaf ears. When I came home I tried for three days to call their Cust. Service with NO RESPONSE. Finally I got ahold of someone who said, "dispute it with your CC Company." Of course I did but... they had a signed contract and it was not checked about the Gas, so I lost. It is not about the extra money for gas, it was the way they conduct business. Will never rent again and will let everyone in my company know the service or lack of I received.

On return we were shuttled back to the airport after an examination of the car to ensure it was not damaged. The staff was cordial, polite and helpful. This awful experience started with having to wait approx. 35-40 minutes to have the paperwork created. There were only 2 people ahead of me... Why didn't you have the paperwork already for me to pick up... The other rental companies verify who you are and bam, its printed... Lets get on to the meat of my complaint. I returned the car, which was the only thing good about them (price too). I had dropped off the car at 9 am on Saturday 10/17... Unloaded back of car and proceeded to drive to Universal Studios to spend the day with my family.
After leaving Universal Studios and arriving at our hotel room I realized I left my new Blue Blazer in the back seat... We immediately called 7 pm Saturday night and left a message with the "Lost and Found" dept. They were closed for the weekend and would call back within 24-48 hrs... Or so they say. Well to be on the safe side I called again on the following Monday and actually spoke with a reservation specialist who verified receiving my message and said they would call back within 24 hrs...
I waited several days... No call. Nothing... I called several times that week. And the following week... And now it is October 29th... NO ONE. NOT ONE LOUSY PERSON FOR THAT COMPANY HAS RETURNED MY CALLS... So that person (whose name is on my receipt) probably saw the nice Blue Blazer (birthday present to me--expensive Blazer) found it and put that in his nice storage bin which I bet they do quite often and said, "see ya sucker!"... It said I owed $155 plus taxes. The gentlemen asked if I wanted to prepay the gas. I said yes. But I thought it was if I used half a tank they would charge me to fill the half a tank up @ 1.91 gallon. No, was charged $35.53 (my mistake). The gentlemen should have said bring it back as close to empty at all. Nothing was said. But still my fault. Should have asked questions.
Car was great, a Ford Explorer. Drop car off and get an email with the bill for the car, $319.38. The difference of $164.38 was the taxes. Really, almost double what the rental of the car was. I think that is absolutely crazy. Then say that when booking the car. I would never have rented from Fox. It was almost a bait and switch. Be upfront with the prices. Would not recommend unless you know exactly what you are paying for the car (total including taxes). I booked a minivan at Los Angeles, CA on September 26, 2015 and will drop off at Sacramento, CA on October 5, 2015 through the internet. This was a one way rental. On the day I arrived at the rental site, I turned in my reservation printout to the counter agent. He verbally agreed to the reservation. He rented the minivan to me in a different way. In the rent contract, it was supposed to return to Los Angeles on the 5th of October, 2015. I drove the minivan for several days in Orange County and went up to Sacramento to catch my flight home on Monday morning. I found out at the Sacramento Airport that Fox Car Rental does not have any associate whatsoever to take the minivan back. I called Fox Car Rental customer service numbers several times, but no one answered. I got computer operators talking answering me only.
I called their roadside service number. Finally a man answered my call. That was about 6:45AM. He asked me where I parked the minivan at. I told him that the minivan was parked in front of the car rental return building where the bus shuttle comes and picked the passengers to the departing terminal. He said, "That should be fine. Someone from Fox Car Rental will pick it up from there. They should be able to monitor where the minivan is." So I got onto the bus shuttle and went to catch my flight home.
On October 22, 2015, I received a letter from Fox Car Rental that I have should return the minivan back to them at the Los Angeles site where I originally rent it from on October 05, 2015. They need the minivan back. So I called their Road Service number and got a hold of a lady operator. I told her exactly what I did back on the morning of October 5, 2015. She said she'll call Sacramento Airport car rental return building and start from there.
Later that day, she emailed me that the minivan got impounded and Fox Car Rental will recover it take the minivan to the closest site, either Oakland or San Francisco. In my case here, I believe that I will be charged by Fox Car Rental for recovering the minivan for an unknown amount. I do not recommend any consumers out there to do business with Fox Car Rental because of their dishonest and unethical business practice. They should be honest and tell me that they do not have a business site available in Sacramento Airport when I approached them at the Los Angeles site. Now that I will be charged with additional costs. Let me be their last customer and their last victim only.

Although the counter staff at Fox Car Rental are friendly and helpful, the employees who care for the cars are either totally incompetent or poorly trained. I have rented from Fox at many locations, but the Orlando site does not maintain their cars. The policy is to pick a car from the car level reserved, so I had the opportunity to see the inside of many cars. One is worse than the other. Most are either damaged and dirty inside or on the outside. After locating the best from the selection, the car then had a broken passenger seat. But the worse was how it drove. Once on the highway the whole front end vibrated because it was so out of alignment. We returned this car only to experience the same with the next car.
Why? I asked after retiring the second car. Well, I was told the cars have high mileage with some over 54,000. But my own cars never drove like this over 50,000 I told the employee in charge of the vehicles. He then indicated they only change oil and check tires. How ridiculous is this to rent cars that are dirty, broken, and in poor mechanical condition? I happen to mention this experience at a dinner party and was surprised to hear the same from others with one story that included a total car breakdown on the highway. This couple called Fox and was told they had to pay the tow back to the rental Lincoln location because they did not take the roadside assistance.
After a $109.00 bill, the next car battery died at Universal and fortunately another visitor had jumping cables. At this point they just returned the car and scraped the remaining rental days at Fox. The car they rented at Avis was clean, smelled good and in excellent mechanical condition. What angered this couple were the hours of their vacation wasted over the Fox car rental. I felt the same way.

We have rented from Fox several times before - they seem to be the low price leader - but each time the experience got worse. This last trip, we made our reservations online, arrived at the counter with our confirmation, etc. There is a total interrogation that takes place before you are assigned a car - not particularly pleasant, even if you have all of the correct documents. We went to vehicle pickup place and the workers seemed totally disinterested in helping. After they pointed to the row where the car was parked, we hauled our bags over and stood beside a car that looked like the traditional 'beater.' It was dented and scraped all the way around, very dirty, and when the trunk wouldn't open, one of the workers came over and said -- it won't open unless you slam it shut first!
We needed to be on our way, so we drove out, but when we reached 60 mph on the freeway, the front end started to shake. It looked like one of the crashes in its life had taken out the front end as well. Since we were not going to be doing a huge amount of driving, however, we just powered on. At the end of the trip, we turned in the car and thought our ordeal with Fox was over. Unfortunately, it was not.
About a month later, we received a notice that we had not paid the toll of $7 crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. They no longer take cash, and rental car companies (including Fox) always just charged the cost of the toll on your credit card and noted it on your bill. This time, they had just changed their policy, but didn't let us know. Their new rules called for us to contact the state of California and to give them our credit card number to have the toll charged.
What Fox has done is to figure out a way to make money -- don't tell the guest, and then send a penalty demand letter to them for almost $100 to pay for a $7 toll! The phone number they left was for a collection agency, and they refused to reconsider the charge, saying it was in the gray matter on the contract (and they also get paid for collecting!). So, PLEASE do not EVER rent from Fox at SFO or anywhere you might encounter tolls. Also, make sure you check the car out and realize why Fox is not anywhere near the top of the rental car ratings!

My personal experience involved the representative looking up my reservation, confirming that I made it and asking if I wanted to upgrade. When I declined, he told me my reservation had been canceled (which I looked online and saw otherwise), then proceeded to blame rentalcar.com and tell me the only thing he could do is give me a more expensive rental option. Having no other choice due to time constraints, we took the higher price and got our road trip underway.
When we called to get details on extra (late) charges for the return, we were told a completely different amount than what was charged upon our actual return. Then upon returning the car I was charged all these fees that were not disclosed at the time of rental. They are the worst. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Just returned from Los Angeles on short business and used Fox to rent a car. I pretty much had same robbery in charges as you can read here. My prepaid $54 changes to $155 for 2 days and hope $150 deposit on top is returned to me. So credit card has been charged $305 started at $54 prepaid. You get what you pay for. They get you in the door and close the deal. Top it off when I brought back the car, I am disabled and walk barely with a cane short distances. Shuttle bus was waiting 4:30 a.m. and I have a 500-foot walk from drop off cones to bus.
I try to be friendly with driver and he grunts and points where to put luggage, smoking his cigarette. I know nothing about LAX and its remodeling stuff, but I do now. Unknown to me but terminal 1 is where I need to be and it's under construction. He should see I am handicapped and drop me off close to terminal. Oh no, I get dumped out between Terminal 1 & 2, but closer to 2. Mind you, Terminal 1 is now 2/10 mile behind me.
We go to TERMINAL 2 thinking it must be where we are going. I barely hobble to 2 to security shaking head and pointing at Terminal 1 the other way. Full of frustration and angry another human being seeing me struggle would leave a handicapped individual in this situation, I slowly, through pain and tears, struggled back 2/10 mile as all wheelchairs and any help are secured. I was told they issue tickets to drivers who stop at terminal doors but there is exceptions to drop handicapped people.

Never rent a car from Fox Rent a Car. I chased a cheap deal and made a big mistake. The deal ended up not being cheap at all. Just read reviews - all negative, all of them. It took me a good hour to spend in their office even that I made online reservation. First of all, their office is FAR from the airport (in Lihue, at least). It is a 10-minute ride. Now, they want to see your auto insurance card, which I coincidentally had with me. They call your credit card bank and insurance company to verify whether you have required coverage. It takes about half an hour. I have never seen anything like that before, even back in 20th century, where you also had to wait for a while for paperwork to be ready. Then they give you a few sheets of paper where you put dozens of initials and signatures that you decline their coverage, which is, like, 44 bucks a day (in addition to rent).
It was like closing home escrow. Then she started printing another batch of papers where I also had to put a few initials and signatures. Then we went to inspect a car. It's a crummy old Chevy with 54000 miles and a few dents on back bumper and fenders. Having all this experience, I photographed them all, of course. Then I had to find a way back to the airport to pick up my wife with the luggage - which also wasn't trivial. Now I am worrying about an ordeal I will have to go through returning the car.
Oh, BTW, penalty for late return (later than 30 minutes of designated time) is 100 bucks. And gas tank has to be completely full (16/16) - you should fill it up within 10 miles of rent return place and show them a receipt! I read some folks were complaining about follow-up charges after the car was returned. Now I am worried how will I find the place (it's away from the airport), where will I fill it up, making sure that I will get a receipt and get there on time. And who knows, what new dents will they find? This is SO much different from basically all other car rentals where you just come in and they tell you lot number where your car is waiting for you.

I had a prepaid reservation made thru Expedia. When I arrived to Puerto Vallarta I was transferred by shuttle to their office as they don't have a counter/office in the airport. This was inconvenient having to haul your luggage to/from the shuttle van when traveling with a kid and someone in a wheel chair. Fox's office is just across the airport! Once at the counter I was told I would have to purchase car insurance as my prepaid purchased insurance was not accepted. Their insurance was $200 USD AND I was told they'd put an $800 USD deposit for any damages. Not wanting to take any risk being hit I accepted the insurance. This is a total scam that they do NOT honor prepaid reservations. My next step is to call Expedia and make sure no one else uses this company.

BEWARE - TOURIST TRAP!!! Do not use no matter how cheap you think they are. They are cheap for a reason. I would give them a "0" star if I could. AC did not work properly on the vehicle number one, but more importantly were the TOLLS: When checking in I was asked if I needed the highway toll pass at $13.99 a day. I asked if I could pay the tolls in person and the receptionist said yes, so I declined respectfully. What she did not inform me about was that there are no toll collectors and you need exact change (no bills or credit card) or you need the sun pass - your only options.
Oh and there are no turn-around points - once you are on the toll road you cannot go back. I had no other choice but to run one toll. I immediately called the Central Florida Expressway Authority to pay my toll where they informed me that I cannot since it was paid for by Fox Rental Car. I called Fox Rental to see if I could pay. lmfao - rude and arrogant and not willing to help or care. Needless to say I am here writing this review and Fox Rental had no problem bilking me for another $69.95 in fees. That equates to $13.99 a day for a single toll that was $1.00 that I tried to pay, lol. My total rental for 5 days was $127 with a $69.95 penalty fee. TOURIST TRAP!

I rented my car at the Phoenix airport and had the car for less than 9 hours, but I know that I had to suck it up and pay for 2 days. When I booked, it was only going to be $70, that turned into $220 when I picked up the car, even though I prepaid for the insurance. I was told it would be refunded when I returned the car, so I let it go. I then had to go to a second location and wait another 30 minutes to get the car. Thankfully I was very thorough in checking the car for all of the scratches and dings, since that saved my butt on extra charges. When I got into the car, it smelled like a mixture of weed and febreze, so that was lovely.
A few hours later, I went to return the car. When I asked about the $150, I was told it would be a few days before it would hit my account but I would only be getting $80 of it back because of the gas charge. When I got the car, it was only 3/4 full and used 1/4, but they insisted they never let cars go with 3/4 of a tank. They had also never informed me of a gas charge, because I would have stopped to fuel up if that were the case. These people are thieves and will take you for whatever they can. Save yourself the headache and just book with a real rental company. The initial price might be more, but it's cheaper in the long run.

We booked our car rental through an online Travel site. We ended up booking with Fox, assuming that a named travel site wouldn't use scamming companies to associate with. Wrong. We arrived in Mexico City and thought we were set when we left the Fox airport office. We had to wait 30 minutes or so for a shuttle, which took us to the other side of the airport and a second Fox airport office. I thought we were there to get the car. Nope, had to check in a second time with different people, though I have no idea why. I'm assuming these were the high end scammers, as the other guy let us slide without troubling us.
Here I was informed that we did not have the insurance I was led to believe I purchased at the time of booking my flight online. Now it suddenly jumped to over $400.00 to insure the car. I have to admit, I didn't know what to do. Having driven in Mexico City before, I was terrified not to have insurance. So we agreed to it. I was quite surprised to find out the car didn't have a GPS. How naive on my part, as it just so happened they had one I could rent! I wavered at the cost, but then they told me it could also be used as a WiFi connection, as well as allowing us to connect up to 5 other phones for calling and texting! Well, having two teenage sons with phones and a great need for GPS, we took it. Our trip to the mountains was finally beginning after a 2 hour ordeal.
You know what? Phones, WiFi, GPS... They don't seem to function worth a crap in the remote parts of Mexico, especially the mountains. We were constantly lost, had no phone or GPS service. Our week passed, the stress of Fox had subsided. But then there was the return trip. We returned the car, were told we scratched it, which we didn't. Then we brought up the fairly worthless phone/GPS and the guy said we'd have to take the shuttle to the airport to get a credit.
We returned to the airport where they proceeded to tell us, "The phone worked just fine, here, try it." We said we know it works in the city, but not when we needed it most. They asked why we didn't call the 24-hour complaint line, we said it was because you cannot call to complain about a phone that won't make calls. At this point I was quite annoyed and was getting heated. When I tried to debate with the guy, he told me if I didn't stop insulting him he would have me arrested by the Mexican police. Obviously there's little else I can add other than to say, please, please, PLEASE stay away from this company! It really ruined the true meaning of vacation.

It was nice to get a ride from the airport to the Fox Car Rental pickup. When we got there we waited in line for over 30 minutes in a warehouse with no ac. Once we got to the counter the lady who was assisting us was not very informative. I inquired about tolls and she said they had some kind of toll program for $11.95 a day. Which I signed up for. She never asked or told us the type of car we had or if we wanted to upgrade or anything. She had me sign paperwork and told me where the car was. We found the car. It was a brand new 2015 Camry. It was so dirty inside. It smelled like smelly shoes. Very dusty on the dashboard. I was wondering how the toll pass thing worked, she never told us anything. So we looked for someone outside that could explain it to us.
After 15 minutes we found a man who told us we just drive through the tolls and they take a picture of our plates. This is something the lady should have told us. Then when we were leaving they make you get in a line and get out to inspect the car from front to back. We were in the car rental place for over an hour in all. Again, it would have been nice for the lady to tell us once we get the car we needed to pull around and go over the shape of the car. The car ran nicely though.

My family and I went to Jamaica in July and rented a car from Fox Rent a Car in Montego Bay. The facility was dirty and so was our car! We asked if they had a GPS because we didn't realize that the one we brought with us didn't work in Jamaica. They had NONE. The other major rental agencies do. They gave us a map, which didn't do us any good. We even bought a map, and that didn't work well for us either as in Negril (where we were staying) there aren't many, if any, street signs, and a lot of places are out of the way.
On the second day of our trip, we tried to find an attraction and couldn't. We wound up having to go back to the airport to see if we could get a GPS from SOMEONE. We spent half the day doing this. At the airport I even spoke to a rep from Fox Rent a Car, who called the office. I asked if we could even bring the car back so we could rent with someone else. After only one day of having the car, they told us they would only give us back the deposit. A person from another rental agency, who took pity on me and was very nice, told the lady that they should give me all the money back minus the charge for the one day we had it. No way for Fox!
I was in tears over this, and Fox Rent a Car single-handedly made me want to dislike Jamaica. My husband wound up going to Digicell inside the airport who were able to provide us with a "phone" that had Google Map/GPS on it. After that, we were okay and were able to find places. DO NOT RENT FROM FOX! They are cheap in price, and you definitely get what you pay for!

The agent said to sign and initial at the highlighted sections. One section of which was to initial to ACCEPT LDW. PLEASE read your contract carefully. Lesson learnt: Do not initial or sign without carefully reading the contract.
Plus they deducted $500 from our credit card at the time of rental. As far as I know most regular rental car companies charge the card at the time of return. Sadly, so as to not incur higher rates with my own insurance, I bit the bait. My rental experience from Fox almost got two stars because it was not a disaster. But it was a complete mess. I rented from Las Vegas. The first thing, I had to (didn't really HAVE to) make two separate reservations for an extended rental. Why? Because returning it and signing a separate contract, for the same car, was $50 cheaper. So instead of having prices that make sense, they pay you to waste your time and theirs.
So I get there with a pre-paid rental. A standard deposit is $150. The guy doesn't really understand what a pre-paid reservation is, and attempts to charge me about $400 and some odd amount, which he claims is a deposit. I explain that is not correct, and there would be a chance I would only get $150 back and would have to go to court to get the rest. So we politely argue about that for 15 minutes. Then I take a bathroom break and come back. He realizes he screwed up. He charges me some lower, but still odd amount as a deposit. Which ultimately resulted in me getting paid $30 to rent the car (less anger, almost 2 stars remember).
On my second reservation, much like the first, there is no damage form given to me. It is given to you by the gate attendant. And I am going to put on there the same exact things I put on the first one. As I am filling out, the gate attendant tells me I am doing it wrong. Only scratches longer than a pencil and dents deeper than a quarter belong on the sheet. Not that she had gotten out of the booth to examine any part of the car to inspect the car in the least. I tell her "I don't care how big the scratches are... if I can notice them in the dark, I am putting them on the damage sheet. It's my credit card on the line not yours." Her response: "Oh my God, I've been doing this for 20 years... this is unbelievable!" I couldn't believe how idiotic and rude a customer service agent was. I realize a gate agent is no genius and likely has no experience renting a car, but to be openly hostile to customers? This made me extremely upset.
So I return my car at the end of my vacation and get on the shuttle, which if you look at the billing details -- you paid about $10 for two shuttle rides that are 1 mile apiece. The shuttle driver hurries me on to the shuttle, even though no one else is on it or waiting for to board. Rather than offer to take my bags, he simply grabs one. I exit the bus, and one of my bags has a broken handle, which I didn't really initially blame on him. After I was not forthcoming with a tip, he said "Thanks a lot" in the most hostile and insolent tone you could imagine. So yeah. It was by far the cheapest rental at the time I booked. Is it worth the savings? It's hard to say. But someone needs to crack down on them.

Fox car rental is a joke. They lie to you to get you to purchase gas, insurance, upsale. They are so limited to cars compared to the other rental companies that, 90 percent of the time they try to upsale you. They don't have the car you reserved anyway. And when they tell you that you're getting a discount believe me you're not getting a discount at all. When they tell you a price and that's for every extra they boot the price up 3 times what the original price is and they start telling you they are going to give you all of these discounts and they start clicking buttons on the computer, they are not clicking nothing. They are just hitting the mouse on an empty spot on the screen to make you think you're getting a discount but you're not getting anything. About time you get the extras you are paying the original price any way which is outrageous. So all of this hype about you getting a good deal and discount you are not getting nothing.
Like I said after you upgrade and thought you were getting a good deal you were getting screwed, you could gotten that upgrade for fee. There is no such thing as a medical field discount, education discount, law enforcement discount, believe me none of these discount exist. You have been lied to and they will continue to lie to you. They have a law suit against them now, so from one consumer to another do not pay for any of that mess because you are being lied to. Did you know that the gas you prepay, they say it's cheaper but believe me about time they add taxes - you are paying more than you would on the streets. I know I worked there and I'm just giving you the facts.
So I told you what's going on with those crooks at Fox and you have the real truth first hand so if you continue to rent from Fox and and their lying and deceiving ways, when you turn the car and get home look in the mirror and say "I'm stupid." I'm not someone that's just mad at Fox - I'm just tired of them ripping people off. (YOU ARE NOT GETTING ANY DISCOUNTS, THEY ARE NOT CLICKING ON ANYTHING. THEY JUST MAKE YOU THINK THEY ARE.)
The next time they tell you you're getting a discount ask them to let you see the discount and you will catch them in the act. You can get an upgrade for $10 on any car, and like I said 90 percent of the time you can get it for free. (I guess they seen you coming.) That's part of their training process to lie and deceive you. If your insurance is $120 they are going to tell you it cost $350 then they will tell you "I'm going to give you all of these discount," and when they are done you will end up paying the original price for it $120 and you got no discount whatsoever. They are a lie and a cheat, you're hearing it first hand, I worked there. Cars are old and very nasty.

I book a Camry-sized vehicle from the Orlando office. We waited around 20 mins. for the shuttle to arrive (pretty slow compared to the other companies). We arrive at the rental agency and went back and forth on the selection of vehicles that they had on site. Salima stated that she had the jeep out front for only a $3.00/day upgrade. My wife and I both asked if she was sure that it was only $3.00/day and she replied that it was correct. We completed the paperwork (I never looked at the receipt at this time, my fault on that one) and received the keys and were told the person outside would help us. We went and loaded our luggage into the vehicle and the guy outside just stayed on his phone, never looking at us.
We started the vehicle and Salima that checked us out came to smoke a cigarette with the outside guy, again both never looking at us. We drove off to the hotel. The next day I received a call from a out-of-state # with a voice mail instruction us to call them that they needed info on our vehicle. I called the # multiple times throughout the day but no answer. The next day I missed a call from Wanda with a voicemail to call them. After multiple calls and left voice mails, Wanda finally contacted me. THEY WANT TO KNOW WHAT VEHICLE I HAD!!! I told Wanda about the issue with the upgrade charges. She stated that she would have a manager contact me by 0900 the next day. I never did receive a call from anyone for the next 4 days of my stay.
The number on the rental agreement only goes to voicemail and the toll-free # goes to Oklahoma. It takes forever for someone to answer. I did speak with Fred who gave me the # to the billing dept. When I dropped it off Sunday, the lady that checks the cars back in asked me for the walk-around paperwork that we did when we rented. I stated to her that no one did a walk-around when we picked it up so I have no paperwork. We went inside and spoke to the lady about the upcharge. She stated that there is no $3.00 upcharge, that it is $18.00. We explained what we were told upon renting and that it was a $90.00 difference (again I did not check my receipt when I rented. That will NEVER happen again). She went and talked to a manager. She came back down and said that he refunded 60% ($63.26) of the upcharge.
I stated that was not good enough and we wanted the full $90.00 base on what we were quoted. He stated that he could not refund the whole $90.00. I told him that I would contact my credit card company to stop the payment of this charge until I was refunded the complete difference ($ 26.74). He stated that he did not have Selma there to ask about this and that he would talk to her.
As I write this, I called the billing dept. It took 20 mins for someone to answer. She stated that she could not override the manager at the location. I asked to speak to her manager and was told that he could not override the manager either. I then asked to speak to her manager's manager. She put me on hold and then came back a little while later and told me that she spoke with the lot manager and he would refund the $26.74. We will see if they hold true to their word. I am not holding my breath!! Looks like they are not on the same page and you will have a hard time getting someone on the phone to resolve any problems you have. Please go with a reputable company!!

My friend and I drove down Highway 1 last summer (July 2014), and we were initially impressed with the low prices for car rentals through Fox. However, the terrible service throughout the entire company has diminished any positive attributes Fox may have had. We picked up our Ford Mustang convertible at the San Jose Airport location and returned at the LAX location. We paid in full. A credit card was on file. This should be the end of the story. Yet, almost a year later, an individual (Jonny **) from the LAX location contacted my friend saying that they didn't charge her card correctly, and claimed she had an outstanding invoice. They then sent this to a collections agency without even contacting her. She double checked with her credit card company, Chase, and they confirmed that Fox already charged her for the full $456.66 last July. Fox needs to stop harassing her for a bill that she already paid in full!

I arrived in Orlando, FL on 7/10/15. The rep @ the desk seemed annoyed I was not purchasing additional insurance and didn't bother to warn me about the toll system in FL. Needless to say, moments after I leave the rental office, I hit the first toll of $1.00 and didn't have ANY cash on me, and of course, no cards are accepted. So, I get cash to make sure I'm prepared for the remainder of the trip. Later that night, I pull off on an exit following GPS directions and I hit a "cashless" toll - by that time, it was too late to turn around. The following day, I hit another toll but this one is unattended and accepts COINS ONLY.
A warning from the rental office to out of state travelers would be nice. I haven't yet been charged by Fox for the unpaid tolls (it's only been a little over a week. I did try to call the FL state toll system per a toll booth rep but they would not accept the payment on a rental car and said it'd go to the rental company.) I read the rental contract and it states that unpaid tolls are subject to a surcharge of up to $40.00 per. Considering each toll was $1.00-$1.50 - totaling maybe $3.50, if I'm charged $40 toll per I'll never do business with Fox again.

I have rented from Fox car rental at least 2 times in the past and chose them for my recent trip. The ease of renting at the counter and the agent who helped me was not the issue. When I arrived at LAX on a Tuesday about 4:30 pm, LAX was noticeably busy. However, several shuttles from other car rental agencies past by as I waited for the Fox Shuttle to bring me to my car. All tolled, it took me 2 hours from baggage claim to be transported from the LAX terminal to the Fox counter to my final destination which was a 15 minute ride from the airport. It was a one hour and 45 minute ordeal to rent a car from Fox car rental!
My return of the car was no better! Thus the reason for my complaint - I arrived at the Fox return at 9:15 am and was quickly processed for the car return. Again this was a shuttle issue! As I approached the rental lot, 2 Fox shuttles were already en route toward the airport I assume. A standing room only crowd waited over 25 minutes for the next shuttle (9:50 AM) to bring us to the terminal which made me and others on board late for our flights. I was refused passage on my JetBlue flight because I arrived at the ticket counter 2 minutes past the 30 minute cut off for baggage and had to take the next flight out of LAX. During high travel season, Fox is cutting corners with their shuttles by carrying full and standing room only shuttles to and from the airport. If you rent from them, which I would not do again, be prepared to spend at least 2 hours once you land to get and return a car!!!

I am so very sorry that I did not read these reviews! We rented the car through CarRentals.com. I do not know yet if they will provide any assistance in remedying our bad experience with Fox. My husband was extremely pressured to get their insurance. He called me and even had me speak to the agent. I told them both that we did not want or need additional insurance. I did advise my husband to buy a full tank of gas given how long he will be in CA. However, the agent clearly lied about the price of area gasoline saying that it ran up to $5.00/gallon. My online check shows that prices are less than $4.00/gallon and less than the per gallon price Fox charged for the full tank. At most, a full tank should have been no more than $60.00 additional charge. Checking online, however, I see that Fox has charged an additional $233 to my card.
Based on my husband's experience and what I read here, it is clear to me that this company only stays in business because people are directed to them via companies such as CarRentals.com and Priceline, and their customers are picking up cars out of town and after a tiring travel day. Like others, I will NEVER rent from Fox and I will be posting to Facebook to warn all my friends away from them as well.

My experience with the Fox Car Rental in L.A. was very frustrating and disappointing. To begin with I had to wait about 30 minutes to see the counter person. She then attempted to pressure me into purchasing insurance which I did not want or need. I finally had to tell her to back off. Along with about 20 other customers I had to wait at least an hour to get a car. When I returned the car I learned that I had been driving a rental with some other customers paperwork. This took at least another 30 minutes to clear up.
We waited for the shuttle for about 40 minutes and finally had to take a taxi back to the airport in order to not miss my flight. I was supposed to be credited with a $150.00 dollar security refund which I am still waiting for. I have called the manager there 3 times and he has not yet returned my calls. I finally reached a very nice women by the name Destiny at the corporate office who apologized to me and asked me to check on Monday about my refund. Today is Saturday. She is the only positive component of this company that I have experienced. I don't expect that I will ever be using Fox rental again.

After we flew into Miami airport we knew we had to take a shuttle to the car rental port. After not finding Fox there, we learned we had to go outside and get on a bus that takes 10 more minutes to the Fox office. Finally get there only to open the door to find that a long line extended right to the door with only 1 or 2 agents working verryyy slooowllly. It took us over an hour and a half to get to the front of the line in the office with no air conditioning on a 95-degree day. There were also people coming in complaining of broken down cars and no one answering the phones to help. It took about 20 minutes for the agent to write us up.
My "cheap" $316 rental price now shows up as $647. Why? Because they tack on a required $23.99 per day for insurance. They explained that I cannot use my normal State Farm Insurance because they don't allow for transfers. When I balked he said, "Well if you want to take the chance of driving around Miami with absolutely no insurance I can take it off." Well I took it. I probably should have called my insurance company (or the cops since I felt like I was getting robbed in the middle of nowhere). The car was dirty, apparently not having been cleaned since the previous renter. The 4WD engine light was on the entire time, too. We drove to Key West and back without problems and they did credit back $150 deposit. But I will never use them again and hope no one else does either.

Arrived at the Oakland airport 15 minutes early to pick up a car I had reserved online. When I stepped to the counter, I was told that they were currently out of cars and I could put my name on the waiting list, there was just one customer ahead of me, however there were 3 names on the list. The customer service rep was polite and apologetic, but that did not help my situation. I was furious and extremely upset. I had made the reservation for the rental car in order to attend the funeral of a dear friend.
The instructions online were very clear, be sure to present the credit card used for the reservation with your license when you pick up the car. The name on the credit card and license must be the name of the driver. Print your confirmation e-mails and bring them with you. Nowhere on the site did it say even though you have reserved a car for a specific date and time, it is first come first served and you may not get a car at all.
Fortunately I was at the airport where I had my choice of car rental companies. I walked to the next window and rented a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, was out the door and on the road in a clean quality car in less then 5 minutes. This experience just drove home the old adage "you get what you pay for". I was trying to get the best deal I could and what I got was frustration and anger. I will never rent a car from Fox car rental.

If the word "unethical" is a negative rating for Fox Rent a Car - then STAY AWAY from this car rental company. As a frequent traveler, I am no stranger to the procedures of renting an automobile, be it in the USA or foreign country. Unfortunately for me, I booked a rental car through Priceline for such usage, while visiting Scotland for a 3-day trip. I will repeat.. I am not a virgin traveler!
Even though my Priceline receipt at the time of booking clearly stated the final price - including TAXES and FEES, I know there are often added costs by an agency to drain more funds once you pick up the vehicle. We are absolutely obsessive about making sure to refill the gas tank upon return to avoid this surcharge and do everything we can to stay within the original quoted price.
HOWEVER, needless to say, it was more than an unhappy surprise to get our final billed statement for DOUBLE the original amount!!! This is clearly a bait and switch operation between Priceline and Fox Travel. When I questioned this with Priceline..."Thanks for your concerns, we have made a note to find out how to avoid this mishap in the future." Basically "sorry, someone must have 'mis-communicated' between our companies. We'll work on it for next time." This was my interpretation of the resolution. So, the customer pays for THEIR learning experiences!!!
It's always great to pay for someone else's learning experience. I will repeat, stay away from Fox Rent A Car. Rethink Priceline even with receipt in hand, AND question everything, an additional gasoline charge automatically charged (whether you refill your tank or not), a DAILY registration fee(???), and the notorious "Premium Location fee," which I might add was not even in the airport. Keep in mind, Fox also adds their "per day commission fee" as a final kick in your wallet. So, unless this business tactic is acceptable practice to you, find a rental company that treats their customers with honesty and commitment to problem resolution!

Those two issues I can understand, but being promised (at pickup of rental car) that we could get a ride back to the resort (1 mile away), and then being told to walk down the street in 108 degree weather to the nearest 7-11 to call a cab to get back to the resort was just stupid. I also paid an extra $200 to get a V8 which I didn't get. (jet lagged so I didn't realize that until a few hour later). We went back the next day, when we learned that they don't have a single car with a V8 engine. (which you think the sales person should know!!!) When I rented their car at the LAX on Tue. 23rd of June, I told them it was for 2 months and that I would be driving to the East Coast (Maine, Rhode Island). The agent consulted with his supervisor and I was told it was ok. Only later I realized that their contract is limited only to Western states and does not cover any in the East or Center! After less than 2000 miles my car started getting blinking message "Oil change is required". I could not reach anybody from their hotlines for 3 days. Since 2 days, there has been problem with one of the tire's pressure. On the first day, I simply went to a gas station and added more air. Yesterday morning, the tire was flat again. I spent all morning trying to reach someone from Fox car rental road assistance. When I reached someone, she told me to go to a Firestone shop. I was happy too early, there was no Firestone shop in the area (Northern Idaho).
I had to call again, this time after about 30 min I was able to get hold someone, who directed me to another workshop and gave me their physical address. I drove over to the provided address to find out that the workshop had no idea about Fox car rental. I begged them to fix my car since I had plans to leave the town the next day. The workshop people were very kind and helped me to fix the tire and look at the oil and said that they would send the bill to the rental car company. I am very disappointed that I have to drop my initial holiday plan to drive to Rhode Island and Maine and return the car. The customer support agent after not so pleasant "support" advised me to drive to Denver to speak to a manager in person and pay there another $400 for the differed return location. I paid over $3,200 for the 2 months, and of course did not expect such a service.
Forget about the cleanliness of the car. When renting the car, it was after a long flight - I just wanted to leave LAX area quickly, I ignored that. I did not expect that there would be more trouble. I did not plan spending my holiday searching for a Firestone shop or another workshop and then beg them to fix my car with a contract of a car rental company they never heard about. The Bluetooth in the car audio does not work, I have to stop to make calls. The AC is not working properly. I still have the car, I need to drive back to LAX and return it hoping that they will not overcharge for the miserable service. I am extremely upset, because of them, I might lose a large contract ($500,000) because I won't be able to implement the project as it had been initially planned.

Checking all the insurance boxes was unreal!! No one would insure insurance and that is about what it amounted to. We could NEVER get the customer service line to answer us. After showing a low-ball price on their website, when I got to the counter to pick up the car in Kauai, HI, I was coerced/threatened into buying "loss of use insurance" for $10/day, because I would have to pay $70/day while the car was out of service if it was damaged, and since it takes 10 days to get parts shipped into HI - this would save me lots of money! I've never had this experience at any other rental car company.
After driving away, the warning came up "Low Washer Fluid" - it was completely empty! Then I wanted to turn the car in early, and found I would have had to pay a huge "cancellation fee" - what a rip-off. Plus, the car was several years old and all dinged up - I expected they would try to get me to pay for some of the old dings, but they didn't. A week later is when I received a fee of $200. At the time I did not know what I was being charged for. When I called customer service they told me I returned my rental to the wrong location. I called the office four times to ask where the shuttle driver was, and I was told he was stuck in traffic. Really, shouldn't they have all been stuck in traffic?
Watched all the other shuttles whiz by at least 5-6 times while I was waiting. It appears that Fox has only one shuttle driver. I booked a car rental 3 months in advance through Expedia for Fox Rent A Car, scheduled for June 15th 2015 out of London Heathrow airport. The following problems occurred: They have no desk, telephone number, or presence at all at the airport. We had to ask information how to get to them. They claim to have a shuttle from the airport. They do not. You have to take a city bus to the Sheraton hotel. There are two Sheratons on the route and the bus driver let us off at the first one. That was wrong. It should not be up to a city bus driver to get us to a rental agency. There are no markings on the hotel for the car rental so you have to walk in and ask the front desk.
We arrived and there were only 2 people in ahead of us and 2 agents yet it took 30 minutes to get to us. The price was more than agreed on through Expedia. They hold you hostage with their insurance and hidden fees. They are not a good value. They aren't cheaper than the bigger companies. They nickel and dime everything. The man in line ahead of us was upset that he'd rented a car, had a blown tire which he paid for at his own expense, and the repairman had told him that all of the other tires had illegal tread on them. They kept saying that he could call corporate. After all the paperwork was done our car hadn't arrived. We waited 30 mins more. It appeared there were only 3 employees.
End result: after 2.5 hours from airport exit to still no car arrival we canceled the car and scrapped our trip to Stonehenge because we didn't have enough time. We were also afraid of how long it would take to return the car and any possible problems that could arise because their customer service was terrible. The lady said we'd have to call corporate for a refund but my husband insisted that the transaction be voided and she did it.
