I ordered a convertible Ford Mustang last week and pre-paid the entire rent online. However, when my friend and I came to pick the car the staff ask us to pay the upgrade fee to rent the convertible car otherwise is will be a hard cap. The upgrade fee is 200 dollars!!! My friend and I decided to rent the hard cap and not upgrade. After a few minutes, the staff said they will give 150 to rent the convertible. We insisted not pay the extra money and rent the hard cap. The staff said they will give me the convertible with 50 dollars. We don't agree. Finally, the staff said give us a free upgrade. We accept that.
However, after we return the car, the Budget still charged me 54.64 dollars without my permission! I call the Budget customer service and they said we didn't refill the tank after we return the car. Actually, we refilled it and we have full evidence to prove that! I explained to the customer service, the staff gives me another ridiculous reason that the rent rate is changed when we pick up the car. The entire company is lacking management. The staff can give the price whatever they want! They arbitrary charge money without any notice and permission!!!! I will never rent cars in this company and I will sue the company this month!

I prepaid for a rental car from Dallas ($72.48) so I would have a rental car when I landed in Phoenix. Upon arrival at Budget in Phoenix I was told I needed a credit card. I explained that I already prepaid and the guy told me that they can't use debit cards and that was just a HOLD. I used the car for 2 hours by driving from Phoenix to Flagstaff and dropped the vehicle off with a full tank of gas. The next day I checked my receipt and was charged $158.86. Interesting that the $72.48 charge remained on my debit card and the balance was put on my credit card. I inquired with Budget about the additional costs and they told me that I requested and approved all the additional charges. I disputed this and their answer was "Well you signed the contract". Read the blogs - do not use Budget Rental Cars! They are nothing more than extortionists.

We picked up our car hire from Fort Lauderdale 13th May 2017. Waited almost an hour to be served even though we were second in line. Customer service was very poor with no advice given to procedures that should be taken on refueling. We declined the refuel option by Budget as we intended to return the car the way we received it which was a half tank of fuel. The girl serving also stated this fact and as the department was very busy we did not read the small print when signing the paperwork. BIG MISTAKE! The paperwork in fact said the fuel tank was full! This we only realized when we arrived home in the U.K.!
We returned the car to Orlando airport where the Guy checked the car over and handed us a receipt without saying one word. Having quickly looked at the balance on receipt showing $00.00 we presumed all was well and headed for our flight. Since the car hire was being charged to my credit card I checked to see what transactions were pending. I was absolutely shocked to find that our estimated bill of $699.34 had risen to $972.45.
Turns out the guy at Orlando says our car was 3/8 full so $191.61 was being charged for refueling. It was then that we realized the car should have been full when we picked it up. Following many emails I have managed to have the charge reduced by $75.00. I am so angry that we were not informed that extra charges were being made as we could easily have refueled the car before our departure. We will never use Budget again and would never recommend anyone else to use them. They are very deceitful with appalling customer service.

I rented a truck for a few hours and was originally quoted a price of $86 online. When I arrived at the location in Baltimore City (1005 E 25th St) it was raining and the attendant was behind the building working on a car. No one else was there. I approached him to let him know I had reserved a truck and he just said, "Go around front". When he finally let me in the small building and out of the rain, I quickly realized that my quote had grown significantly to $180. Insurance fees, deposit, etc. I was also told that if I don't refill the gas, there's a $30 fee. But just make sure the gas hand is on "Full" when I return it.
He was rude and very unprofessional. He was also sick & coughing up mucous every 13 seconds. If I hadn't desperately needed the truck, I would have gone elsewhere. When I returned the truck, the gas hand was still on "Full" so I had no need to refill it. They ended up charging me $188 for those few hours renting the truck! That's over $100 more than original quote. I was livid. They said they had to put $11 in the tank and charged the additional $30 (Plus $11). Even though I returned it on "Full". If the attendant wasn't as rude, maybe this robbery wouldn't have felt like an actual robbery. Lack of professionalism.

They should have a class action lawsuit filed against them for the same reason Payless Car Rental is being sued. Budget uses predatory, unfair and deceptive business practices to rob working families of their money. I was told I was getting the loss damage waiver for free "because you're a nice person" I returned the car and get charged. I tried to speak to someone at the location I rented the car from but with lines out the door and a plane to catch I couldn't. So I called the location when I got home but could not get thru for the life of me!
Please try calling 702-736-1212 and ask to speak to Jay the jerk who ripped me off. You will not get thru. So I call their customer service number listed on their website. After explaining everything I'm told all I can get back is 50% so I take it thinking Jay made a mistake and I didn't want to cause an issue. Besides I also have this thing called a life... That was until I saw Payless Car Rental is being sued for the same thing. Then I realized I was duped... Twice. I called this morning to speak to someone, I want all money back, and was told they saw no reason to issue me a full refund effectively admitting the jerk I spoke to the first time could have given me a full refund and lied to me and saying, "Yea, we screw our customers and don't give a..."

I will never use Budget again - and would like to warn others. We rented a car from Lanzarote airport. We had a very long wait in the airport to collect the keys - however, the problems really began after the holiday! Budget try to make money by applying extra charges. Budget Lanzarote confirmed no hidden fuel fees - however, they attempted to make a refueling charge which is hidden in the small print you sign at the airport after they have kept you waiting for an hour. Budget also tried to charge us for an extra day's rental as we had apparently brought the car back about 2 hours late. In fact, at the time we were supposed to have returned the car we were all sitting on a plane! It has taken me 6 weeks of calling to get the incorrect charges removed and at no point was it a pleasant experience; I even had an agent hang up on me mid-call. Avoid BUDGET AND AVIS (all part of the same company).

Budget in Las Vegas on Gilespie on 5/20/2017: Terrible experience. Terrible Customer service. I had 6 people so I reserved a minivan. No Minivans available and they did not have anything that would seat 6. I was told my reservation got me a good price but not necessarily a Minivan and that it was a holiday weekend (it was not). Also I was told "first come first serve" even though I had a reservation for a Minivan and it was 6:00 AM. I was the only person there! Basically I had a reservation that was a good deal, so I feel that somehow motivated them to treat me so badly that I would eventually cancel which of course I did cancel. I rent cars often but can't imagine using Budget again.

Came in to pick up a car after a deer totaled my car. Took all the necessary documents as asked on the website. BTW, it was Budget in Joliet 3340 Mall Drive. I do not have a credit card and my credit is good. Interesting that he told the customer in front of me that they are independently owned and Budget doesn't care about them. His exact words. They still use a DOS based system that was back before the millennium. He came back and said I was denied which I should not have been. Thank you Budget for a week that you could have made better. But I will never use them ever again.

I recently went online to book a reservation for my daughter who was traveling. As completed the required information but the booking website returned the message that the card did not go through. I attempted the process again and received the same message and was instructed to contact Budget reservations by phone. When I called was given a reservation number and discovered that Budget had billed my daughter's credit card twice. I canceled all reservations only to be informed that the money would be deposited in her account in "five to seven business days". This is completely unacceptable behavior as hundreds of dollars were inappropriately removed from her account while she is traveling for school and relying on her card. I will never use Budget again, period!

I agreed to rent a Budget truck because your staff begged me to use your service at a discount rate. Little did I know that it is a custom for Budget not to have their trucks available. It is easy to disrupt someone's life and right now mine has been disrupted. I came from Florida to rent and bring my items from Maryland. Today is Thursday, May 18. My truck was supposed to be secured at 5 o'clock, little did I know that this was a custom. I was told they would find me a truck yet they failed to look at a Silver Spring Office that close to 7 o'clock where I would have been fine. Maybe. Reviewing all of the complaints I now fear that you would give me a truck with bad tires, bad transmission, bad and leaking roof to the detriment of my safety.
If my truck is not secure it on Friday May 19th with a substantial discount above what I have been quoted. I will reach out to everyone that has made a complaint against you and file a suit. Report you to Triple A and Better Business Bureau to shut your entire company down. I am tired of big companies taking advantage of the public.

BUDGET RENTAL CAR TIMELINE. 2016 Chevrolet Traverse. Charges to credit card for car rental $290.83. Charges to credit card for lost keys $400. We rented a car from Budget Car Rental on September 21, 2016. On Friday September 23, 2016 we lost the car keys. We called Budget - they arranged a tow truck to meet up with us in the parking garage where the car was parked. The tow truck promptly took it to the Budget repair lot. The tow truck driver arranged for Uber to take us back to our hotel. The tow truck driver told us that Budget would be covering the cost and that we need not worry. We left for home the next day not seeing the car again. When we arrived home we did call Budget to confirm they had the car in their possession. They said yes and that everything was taken care of; no issues.
On October 11, 2016 we had a charge on our credit card for the $400 for key replacement. On our credit card statement there was not a notation of any kind indicating that this charge was for any repair services, it only said car rental. This was unacceptable to our insurance company. There wasn't anything stating lost keys. We wanted an itemized statement for these charges so insurance could help pay.
October 11, 2016 - We did receive an EMAIL from a Budget emergency road service coordinator telling us they had charged our credit card on file the $400 for charge for replacement of lost keys. We asked Budget to send us a statement with a summary of charges as well as a copy of our original rental agreement we had with them. We never received a statement or invoice of charges. We continued to call days after this. At one point my husband spoke with a representative, I believe in December 2016 and asked again for Budget to mail us a copy of the contract and an itemized statement for the keys. She told him that we should be receiving it in about 2 weeks. We never received it.
We continued to call. I do not have a detailed timeline between December and February. My husband called at least 2 more times and then we also tried getting the information (copy of contract) from our LOCAL Budget Car Rental store. They tried to pull it up in their system, they were able to find what we thought was the right information but it was not. It had the right customer info, location of rental in D.C., correct Budget car number BUT the wrong car each time they pulled it up and printed it. Every time they printed the receipt it printed with a different car make and model. The insurance company would not accept the agreement with the wrong car on it.
April 17, 2017 customer service. Emailed me a rental agreement receipt, not the agreement. Also, the receipt has the CORRECT vehicle number but the wrong vehicle description. April 19, 2017, spoke to a customer service representative, did not write down his name. Once again I was emailed a rental agreement receipt, not the agreement. Also, the receipt has the CORRECT vehicle number but the wrong vehicle description.
April 21, 2016 I called customer service again. I explained to the representative the reason for my call, told her I had talked with 5-6 different representatives and I keep getting the same invoices with different cars. She sent me over to billing. I spoke to a person in BILLING. She found our original Rental Agreement in her system. She was going to email it to me but her computer would not download this document. She found the invoice for repairs and was able to download that document and send to me by email. I received the Invoice. Repair order invoice with an itemized list of repairs. Most of which I do not understand.
Here is what the invoice list looks like: VIN, MVA Number, Region: Northeast, Location: Springfield, Labor Type: ID, Labor OP Code: TD. EVENT/CAUSE: LOST KEYS; LINE ITEM DESCRIPTION AND AMOUNT, 9999- sublet repairs $145.00. A-antenna repair replace missing damaged parts-$7.81, labor $17.00 (We did not damage anything on this car). We did not touch the antenna! Parts: 23169266 antenna. CLK-CUSTOMER LOST KEY CUT REPROGRAM REPLACE parts-$15, labor $59.50 PARTS: B111SHCP KEY; 22951509 (s) TRANSMITTER, CPT-CUSTOMER PAY TOW $0.00. PR-PROGRAM REMOTE TRANSPONDER TRANSMITTER parts $70, labor $29.75 PARTS: 22951509 (S) TRANSMITTER, TD-TEST DRIVE DIAGNOSE COMPLIANT labor $17.00. TOTAL: parts - $92.81 labor: $123.25 sublet: $145.00 admin fee: $25.00 REPAIR ORDER, TOTAL: $386.06
They charged our credit card $400.00. I asked the representative in billing why they charged our credit card $400 when the amount is less than that, $386.06? She told me that it looks like they ROUNDED UP. Because of this discrepancy and because of charges for items we did not break (antenna) I submitted a complaint to: Federal Trade Commission in Washington D.C. and Office of the Attorney General, Washington, D.C. I am in California but was told by Sacramento I had to file the complaint in the state the car was rented.
In the meantime our credit card company, (because we finally received an itemized statement - not until April 21, 2017), has allowed us to dispute the charge. Everyone BEWARE of all charges by asking for an itemized statement. Make sure you inspect the car before and after renting, check it over with an employee of the rental company. Take photos, don't get scammed!

Budget car rental scam Tampa FL. I rented my wife a Ford Escape and pre-paid for the rental stipulating no additional optional insurance charges. They said "we have a Chevy Traverse ready" but never told her it was at additional cost. They gave her a Chevy Traverse and charged an extra $18.80 a day, then in addition they charged her for every conceivable insurance option to the tune of $237.48. She was rushed by the fast talking clerk, and she had difficulty understanding. What was supposed to be a $240.00 rental turned out to be a $532.50 rental scam! Budget's customer service agent sent me the rental agreement but it's not the original. I will never use Budget again and will tell this story to every traveler I meet unless resolved. I'm also challenging these charges on my credit card.

I almost feel like this rental company is trying to be as bad as they are. Maybe it's a joke to them? There is no way someone can run a company this bad. No employee at any location can give you an answer for any question. They say to call the 800 number... Even talking to the manager of our pickup location, I asked if I had to pay extra if I dropped the truck off before it was due. He said, "I can't tell you yes or no. Call the number." So I call and the woman says there shouldn't be an extra charge... why would there be? But that's how backwards they are.
So I tell the manager that she said no extra charge, and he says that just because the call center says that, they could still charge me when I drop it off, and then says, “That's how bad this company is.” No joke... this just touches on the day we had with them but I'm not going to write 5 pages here. It's a shame that despite all 1 star reviews on here, people are still renting their trucks. I would give 0 stars if I could.

Do NOT use Budget Rental Tomball. I have had the absolute worst experience EVER with this location. They have lied time after time and refuse to answer their phone or make things right! I had a reservation at 9 am and my car was not delivered until 9:40! The driver told me that he was not even informed about the car until 9:15... 15 mins after I was supposed to have it!! To top things off... I was told from customer service that this location did not do after hours drop off. When I was there picking my vehicle up, there are signs with drop off instructions and a drop box.
BRANDY explained that yes they do have after hours drop off and I could certainly drop it off Sunday evening. She even gave me detailed instructions on how to do this! Lo and behold, when I did as I was told to do, the gates were locked and I was not able to leave the vehicle. I tried calling customer service and was on hold over 20 minutes. I asked for a manager and he hung up on me!!!! Worst experience! DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!!!

Budget Rental in the Salt Lake City Airport is not honest. DO NOT TRUST THEM! You have no recourse once you sign any document. This location is independently owned and Budget Corporate can't and won't do anything. We rented a car there a couple of weeks ago. A specific vehicle for the purpose of test driving it, because my wife and I are thinking about buying one. When we got there, they politely told us they didn't have the specific vehicle, but could get us something close for an upcharge of $10 a day. We were in a rush and just agreed. Who isn't in a rush at the airport. They asked about the insurance and only because we were expecting snow, I said yes. I told them I have good insurance, so I only wanted the lowest coverage. The gal behind the counter smiled, basically repeated what I said and unbeknownst to me, charged me the max!
I didn't catch it and we left in a hurry. When we returned the car, I saw that the bill was staggering. I questioned it and was told that the taxes at the airport are severe. NO mention of the ripoff insurance which I didn't really even need. Once again, we were in a rush and figured we would figure it out on the plane and handle it when we got home. When we discovered that we had been overcharged for insurance by about triple, we called Budget. They said we would hear from them within a couple of weeks. They replied that because I signed the agreement, my fault, no adjustment/refund. So, in a rush or not, if you sign the document if it doesn't look right, you just bought the bill. My bust, but this place is not honest and Budget Customer Service was absolutely no help. Use another company... I will never rent from Budget again!

package as well as $7.99 a day for roadside assistance. (I was also charged $30 for gas even though I brought the car back full, but I was eventually able to get this charge removed.) My personal car insurance covers rental cars, and I have AAA. I would never agree to pay these extra charges.
My $449 car rental became a $1,036.14 charge! Yes, Budget can produce a document which has my signature agreeing to these charges. But if you read other complaints, you will see a clear pattern of this happening to many other people. This cannot be an accident or coincidence. It's happened to too many people. When I checked in for the car rental, I was asked if I wanted insurance. I told the agent no, that I had coverage through my own auto insurance and my credit card. He then printed out a form and told me to initial several areas to decline the coverage. Apparently, by following his instructions, I agreed to the insurance that I had declined.
Frankly, I don't know what I signed - anything is possible at this location. I do know I verbally declined the insurance, and certainly didn't agree to pay $7.99 for RSN, which I later was told is roadside assistance. I have AAA - why would I want this. I only discovered that I was charged $1,036 for my $149 car rental when I looked closely at the invoice while going through security after returning the car. I returned to the rental car counter expecting this mistake to be quickly corrected. Instead, I was met with immediate hostility. The agent seemed to know the complaint was coming before I even asked them about it. The agent immediately became defensive, telling me that I had signed an agreement for the extra charges. He also said that all charges were carefully explained to me.
This I know is not true because I never would have agreed to these extra charges. He then said all transactions are video recording so they have proof these charges were carefully explained and that I agreed to them. But when I asked to see the recordings, they said that customers are not allowed to see them. Of course, I have complained to Budget customer service, but they say they can only go by the signed form the Springfield office shows them.

I would give 0 stars if I could. I try not to write reviews, but after my ongoing experience with Budget I felt I needed to warn others. In March 2017, I visited my family in MD and rented a car from BWI Budget. I got an amazing new car and was excited. Within an hour of driving (took me about 2 hours to get to destination) the low air light came on and I thought it was odd. The next day I realized the tire was flat. I contacted the roadside assistance, confirmed I had purchased the roadside assistance for $67+ dollars and then proceeded to ask for help. They said a tow truck would assist. After getting my notification that it would be an hour wait I was ok, after over 2 hours of waiting Budget called saying the tow was not coming and would set up another company. That company said it would be 2 hours until getting there.
At this point I was getting frustrated because I was with my 3-year old and 16-year old children and they were getting restless. We missed being able to eat dinner with my family due to waiting. I finally had to get the local Rescue Squad to come by and replace my tire, because being stranded and no time of being fixed. The Rescue Squad person (so thankful for him) said that I should not drive over 50 miles per hour on the spare as it was not safe. I knew this would be a problem because the closest Budget was about 2 hours away and I had my children to think about. I contacted Budget and offered to take it to a Goodyear (only thing nearby) and get tire replaced. They told me I couldn't because then I would not be reimbursed unless the exact same tire was put on and Goodyear did not have that tire.
After getting the runaround for 2 days they finally drove me a new car and picked up the old car. The guy told me everything was good, was not going to be charged and just return the new car to the place I picked up the first car at. He drove off in the old car to return to Budget. I dropped off the new car and thought that was it... I was without a car for 2 days but not going to fight about getting reimbursed because I was just done getting the runaround. You think it would end there, but nope. On 20 April, my credit card was charged $167.50 so I immediately thought it to be an error and called Budget. Budget said it was due to damage to the car and I had to pay it. There was no damage except the flat tire which was covered under roadside assistance. They will not tell me what the specific damage is and how they know it was me and not the guy who drove it back who caused the damage.
It had been almost a month since I returned the rental so why am I getting charged now, why did no one call to tell me about this so called damage, etc. I have talked to numerous agents all telling me different things. One guy (Alex) said I was reimbursed those charges and I had to send my bank statement to show it wasn't. After sending my statements another agent said I should not have been charged b/c the tire was covered. Got another email saying damage due to car, with no specifics. I am beyond frustrated. I just want my money back that they have stole from me. Not only did I pay over 300 for a weekly rental, I missed time with my family because I only see them so often since I am stationed so far away. Everyone should stay away from that company. Even if I get my money back (which I highly doubt) I will never go back to that company again.

Booked a standard SUV through Budget website online to be taken at Cleveland Airport, OH, from 26th April evening through April 28th morning. Pre-paid $181.73, in full, through my credit card. At Cleveland Airport, the female at the counter took the credit card, license and mentioned "Sir, there are 3 cars. Ford Explorer, Dodge Durango and GMC Acadia. Which one do you want?". I chose Ford Explorer. Returned on 28th at 9 am only to get a receipt with an extra charge of $35.67. Immediately called Customer Service to hear "It was an upgraded car. We can't reverse the difference". When I mentioned that the female at the counter never mentioned that these are the options for an upgrade, (which I never asked for or never booked) and also would cost more? How would I know if that is an upgraded to the next class or not - The customer service says "You signed the rental agreement. That is all".
I see a very similar experience reported by Ramiro of Coral Gables, FL on April 26, 2017. Looks like this is happening with multiple people booked cars with Budget, only to give us an idea how Budget is doing its business with malpractice and mal-intentions. Today I called the customer service again and spoke to someone called Tony. Initially he was polite, but after understanding the issue, he too started mentioning the same that I have signed the rental agreement and stopped listening to what I had to say. Eventually offered a 50% of the extra charge. My last rental with Budget and its group brands. (Avis, Budget, Apex, Zipcar, Payless, etc.). Please beware of such malpractices and take a decision appropriately. Thank you.

Budget… Never again!! We booked via Ryanair website and included the insurance from AXA insurance. When we received a confirmation email from AXA, we got to know that our excess was €1800!! When we arrived at Trapani Airport, we had to wait for over two hours in a queue of only 3 people. The woman at the desk was taking a long time with each client as she didn’t know her job well and was asking help from her colleagues all the time. When it was our turn to be given our car, we got to know that we had to pay 3 times more the insurance, to lower our excess. We were also told that they do not have any cars available at the airport so we had to wait further in the parking until they got a car from Palermo Airport.
When the car finally arrived, the guy didn’t even inspect the car and we drew his attention to do so. We couldn’t inspect the car well as it was getting dark and the car was dark grey. When we returned the car, the lady which inspected the car noticed that the front bumper was scratched. We were sure that we didn’t do it as we took great care of the car. When we searched for a photo we took of the car on our first day, we noticed that the scratches were already there and when we showed them the photo, they still insisted that we did the scratches. We were sent in the airport and the woman at the desk (who was different from the one that we talked to when we picked the car) had to call someone as she didn’t know what she had to do in such cases. A total rip off!! Budget... Never again!!

Orlando Rental. When renting a vehicle from Budget on April 22, 2017 there was a waiting line of approximately 30 people. It took 1.75 hours just to get to the desk. When arriving at the front desk the monitor for the customer was malfunctioning so the Budget employee was reaching around and just tapping the screen thus accepting things that were not wanted during the Rental Time. When I got to the hotel I called customer service and voiced my concerns and they said they would credit the rental 25%, even though the employee was told I did not want this option.
The next thing happened when returning the vehicle to the Airport and I am charged a fee for a vehicle that has a full tank of gas. This is a complete scam on Budget's part and a pure profit ordeal. The charge was $29.59 and I literally had 4 miles on the tank of gas. The final receipt that was sent to me shows that the fuel tank reading at the return was FULL. I am going to take this a step further and file a complaint with the BBB. I would definitely not recommend using Budget to anyone.

I will NEVER NEVER EVER recommend this company to ANYONE. We used one of their rental trucks back in November and when my husband went to pick up the dumb truck they got us to purchase the extra insurance and it says 0 FAULT which means the person is covered. Well he told them we were going to have someone else drive it down for us and they said that was no problem, he would be covered too. So when the person we had driving was going to park the truck he accidentally hit another parked truck at a U-haul place. Well they said that budget would probably cover it without any issues and it would be an easy claim.
Now it is May 1st. One of those IDIOTS from the claims department at BUDGET at first said they would take part of the claim with that other persons insurance at first and now they are saying because he was not the one that rented the truck they won't cover it at all. I do not see anywhere on the fricken website that said they wouldn't cover him. In fact it PISSES ME OFF A LOT THAT THE PERSON AT THE BUDGET RENTAL PLACE SAID HE WOULD BE COVERED!!! My husband had NOTHING to do with the fricken accident and now they are trying to put blame on him. We spent almost $100 for that fricken insurance and the jackasses won't even cover it. This is the worst company I have ever seen and I have already told others never ever to rent a truck from here and believe me they are saying they will not.
What is the point of the fricken insurance if they are not going to cover the truck itself. Who gives a crap who is driving the truck. If someone pays for the insurance it should be on the fricken truck not the person. Not to mention if the person who was in the accident if his insurance company is willing to help with the fricken claim then they SHOULD do part of the claim. The person who was not part of the accident should NEVER EVER have to get their insurance company involved. Our insurance shouldn't go up because this dumbass company won’t take responsibility. We paid for their services and there is nowhere on the stupid rental agreement that says they will not cover the other guy. This insurance should be on the dang truck NOT on the person.

I rented a car for one day from Budget a few months ago. This car was to be picked up and dropped off in different cities. I drove the car half of my nine-hour journey and then took a break for the night at my mother's house. The next morning as I was taking off, the car malfunctioned and was clearly not safe to drive. I called Budget's 24-hour roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck. The tow truck picked up the car that same day (within the 24-hour rental period) and took it to their garage. Budget did not bring me a new car so I borrowed a car from my mother. I drove the rest of the trip that day. I noticed a few days later that Budget charged my credit card almost $700. I called and called constantly being told it was going to be fixed. It wasn't until I contacted the executive office twice sending proof and letters that anything was done.
They charged me for a four-day rental, for not filling up the gas tank, and added late fees for a car that broke down on me. Apparently, the car was sitting at the towing company for four days after it was towed. After "fixing" the issue, they still ended up charging me for a one-day rental even though the car did not get me to my final destination. This company provided me with the worst experience I have ever had with any company in my entire life. I would avoid Budget Rent A Car like the plague. It took four months for them to refund me the amount that they did and I was about to file a lawsuit. Absolutely unacceptable that they would fraudulently charge my credit card without my permission and then not refund me the full amount for a car that malfunctioned half way through my trip of no fault of my own.

After talking to a foreign guy for a very long time, I was told that something went wrong online and that I would be getting a credit within 12 hours. Never told I was paying for upgrade. Never could contact anyone that wanted to help. Disputed with my credit card but because they had a signature on a contract that I was never even told was a contract, thought it was extra insurance I was declining. Rushed and agent didn't care. If I had known I was going to pay an extra 463.00 for upgrade I would never have accepted as I reserved early and got DISCOUNT. Haha. Upon arrival at the Budget Rent-A-Car area Orlando airport, there were over 100 customers in front of me, my husband was exhausted from the flight. I found him a wheelchair to sit in, no seats in area, he watched the luggage. So for over two hours I stood in line, other customers had loved one who were hungry, had to go to the bathroom, and restless children. I was told by foreign travelers, why do we have to wait here in this line in America, with all the technology available, I apologized for all of our inconvenience. Then as we moved in the lanes we were able to watch the three Budget staff waiting on customers and other blue Budget shirt employees standing around, looking at their phones, laughing having a good time while we in line were losing our patience.
One staff member in particular would take a customer about every 15 minutes, well now it was my turn, she was doing nothing. She did not call me up but I went over and asked if she was waiting on people, she said she was very busy and would get to me when she could. Well we waited in front of her for about ten minutes, all she did was talk to the other staff, who were not waiting on people, a new employee came out the door and I said could she wait on me, and she did, after about twenty minutes she assigned us a vehicle, we walked over to the garage, walked down to V31 and no vehicle was in the spot, I guess they had a good laugh.
My husband was ready to pass out, diabetes and no food, so I ran back to the Budget desk and yelled about the problem, they told me to wait. After taking two more customers, I was assigned another vehicle, it was in the garage. What an experience, my plane landed at 4:17 PM, I finally got to my hotel at 9:30 and then went to dinner. I was not the only person feeling disgusted at the Magic Kingdom. I have never seen such inefficiency, total lack of professionalism and untrained staff. Budget should be the last rental car agency to consider in my opinion and I will continue to warn everyone.

Rented a car in Norfolk VA in April 2017, which was pre-paid by Expedia. After getting my credit card statement I saw that I was being charged $640 CDN extra from Budget. Called them up and they claimed that I had agreed to an upgrade of $10 USD a day, which I did not, was never informed of and did not agree on the contract. Then they said I was being charged $89 USD for a fuel surcharge for not bringing it back full, which I always return full as I know how much they rip you off if you don't. The worst was when they said I was charged for having XM radio as well as roadside assistance. Again I never pay for XM radio, I always have my own music on a usb stick, and my credit card covers all damages, accidents insurance. The Budget rep said they'd give me 50 percent back on upgrade, and then said they would submit a request for refunds of the other charges.
I have a copy of my contract and nowhere does it even say anything about XM radio or roadside assistance. And I fortunately kept receipt of filling up the tank the day of return. This has been the worst experience I've had with any car rental, and I will never rent with Budget/Avis again. It appears that upgrades and extra charges without approval is becoming more and more common. Complete waste of time to have to send in the documents to prove I did not agree to all these extra charges. Budget is the worst car rental experience I've had. Never again with them.

The location said they didn't have the cash and that Budget's corporate office would mail me a check in about 6 weeks. I told them I could pick up the deposit in a couple days, but they said they wouldn't have it then either. You would think a good rental company would have $150.00. My family (two kids and my wife) and I had just got to the Budget Canada office at the airport to rent a car after a very long trip. Having been tired and in a rush to get to our destiny, we asked about our reservation: A midsize SUV (ford Escape or similar). I asked the person on the counter if he thought the size was ok for the four of us and 3 suitcases. As I remember the salesperson said, "I have this one, a Ford Explorer". To me this was a similar car since I dont know the difference about models. Ford Explorer and Ford Escape to me it was the same.
The important part here is that I did not get an explanation about the extra costs to access that SUV instead. He never mentioned the increase of price! While he asked me to sign that I declined the insurance, he kept talking to me non-stop, and I am coming to believe that this was his way of getting me to sign. Completely misleading! The end price I received was about 5 times more.
A couple of points to show why I could never have agreed to that price: I made a reservation for a car that it was going to cost approx. $267 a week. How can I go from that to almost $1700?! As my kid said, for that price you can get a Lamborghini! I did not care for a car that nice and didnt need it. I declined all the insurance. Do you think that I will take a car like that and decline all the insurance? If I have that kind of money I would not mind paying the insurance. Everything points that I was taken advantage off. I agree, I SIGNED! And that was my mistake, I was not informed about anything extra! If the paper said that I was carrying drugs I've would have signed anyway and Im not a drug dealer. This is only an example but it is to make my point.

BUDGET RENT-A-CAR IS A RIPOFF - They refuse to take debit cards or advertise that fact and HAVE THE WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have 2 agreements due to my recent move. See Agreement No ** quoted total was $331.33 for 8 day van rental with turn in at a different location not in Florida. Then see Agreement ** quoted agreement $219.84 with turn in at a different location in Florida. Because Budget refused to take my daughter's DEBIT card we used my Credit Card. 4 days after we rented the first car we went to pick up the second car and were told we had multiple rentals and again they DON'T TAKE DEBIT CARDS. Both cars were on my credit card even though we were each driving a different vehicle. Because we put the second car on my credit card my 8 day rate went from $219 to $578.10 because Budget tacked additional charges like loss damage waiver when I have USAA car insurance which covers rental cars.
Had we been at the airport we would have gone to another rental car place but we didn't have that luxury. The second car did not have a full tank of gas which meant another trip inside and another wait. The second day with car 2 the check engine light came on and stayed on so I called BUDGET ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE - DON'T BOTHER. With no help from roadside I went to Costco to fill the tank to 3/4 as dictated by Budget but it would not fill. So the man in front of my car and behind attempted to put gas in the car with no luck - Budget said we must have been trying to pump Diesel - NOT.
With the check engine light on and very little gas I drove to the nearest Budget and demanded another car at the same price BUT they took the car and said they were able to fill the tank so I owed $9 per gallon for the gas they filled (so half a tank of gas cost me $40.79). Not to mention the rude customer service at two locations in West Palm Beach, Florida AND NO MANAGER TO BE FOUND AT EITHER LOCATION. I will never rent from Budget again and pray customers get a chance to read this review.

Made a reservation online and got confirmation. At the counter we waited quite some time for them to get the VIN while others were coming and finishing before us. Finally were sent over to the space to pick up the car for just a "short" wait. More than 25 minutes later we walked over to the person in the box and she was not real happy to even slide the little talk door to listen to us. Finally a man came over and said they would swap out the car. I asked if the price would change and the response was "of course not". Prior to returning the car I filled up about 2 miles away from the return. Reviewing my credit card, they overcharged me by $14.83. Waited on the phone for someone to answer for about 10 minutes and they said they could not hear me because of a bad connection. I had no problem hearing them.
The extra charge was for refueling. She asked me what was the name of the station I filled up at and how much did I spend to fill up, but she said she was sorry for the inconvenience asking me these questions. This is more than an inconvenience. Just a total waste of time. I told her I could not remember what the name of the station was and she put me on a brief hold. Came back to say the difference would be credited. Wonder how many times this is done to customers with the gas tank at more than full when returned and how many customers choose not to correct the issue due to lack of time in their schedules.

On 4/11/17 I arrived in Albuquerque with a Budget reservation for a econ car. By the time I arrived they were "sold out" so I was given a large SUV. Two days later, on 4/13, I returned to exchange the SUV for a smaller car as I was quite uncomfortable in the larger vehicle. After some hemming and hawing I was issued a Dodge Dart. Aggravated and stressed by the process which took some time, I stepped away from the counter and set my wallet down in the "lounge area" about 50 feet away. I went outside to get into my new car and realized I could not find my wallet/license in order leave the premises with the vehicle. I went back inside to check with the counter; I informed them my wallet was missing; they had not found anything at that point.
After 10-15 minutes of panic outside looking I went back inside to the counter to ask again. I was informed that another Budget customer had picked it up and tried to return it to the counter, but they could not accept it because it is against their policy to accept anything outside their counter area. The customer then said he would give the wallet to the airport bus driver in case someone on the bus had lost it. I then checked with the bus driver who was currently outside; he did not have it, nor did any of his other drivers. So in a matter of minutes my wallet, which was discovered not but a few steps away from the Budget agents, walked out of the rental depot with stranger #1 who gave it to stranger #2. All this happened while I was still waiting outside and while the Budget agents knew my wallet was missing.
What ensued next was very stressful. Now I had no money, no credit card and no license/ID with which to leave the premises and board a plane in a few days. I was helpless. One Budget agent (thank you Cindy) helped me immensely by calling around to all the bus drivers, airport security and the airport lost & found (to no avail). She had airport police come take a statement so a case number could be assigned. All of this took several hours.
When I was ready to leave the depot with the Dodge, I was told by the new manager (shift change) that I could not take the car off the property without ID. He knew the story from the previous manager but gave me a really hard time, even though they had all my information and payment from two days prior when I first arrived. He took no responsibility for the situation his agents helped to create. After getting very firm with the manager about not leaving without the car, he finally got his supervisor to OK my departure.
So my complaint is really about people not doing the right thing. Yes, I take full responsibility for setting my wallet down. I appreciated the customer who picked it up and tried to return it to the Budget counter. Here's where the policy of not accepting it or even looking inside for ID to determine if it belonged to me while I was STILL THERE is completely unacceptable. I understand policies need to be in place; however, sometimes it's the right and just thing to bend the rules for someone who is so clearly distressed and helpless. I canceled my credit card and my husband had to FedEx me my passport so I could get out of NM. My wallet is still in the wind. I will not do business with Budget ever again.

We have a dispute with the RENTAL CAR (Malaga Airport / Spain) during our recent travels in Europe (April 2017). The car had over twenty thousand km and definitely used tires with all this mileage. After picking up the car, 60 km away from the airport, we noticed a flat tire when we pulled in to a supermarket garage and we called the rental car's roadside service number and they said we had to return the car to Malaga airport (nearest Avis/Budget) or they would have to send a flat bed truck and we should take a taxi. We said we would return the car next day since it was getting late.
When we traveled back to the airport next day, they replaced the vehicle with another but informed us that we would have to pay 150 Euros for the tire plus 87 Euros for the damage claim paperwork. At this point, we had spent a day from our eleven day vacation trying to accommodate the rental company and not cause unnecessary problems, we were being charged for the tire which was not great looking from the start. (I took photos at the airport of all scratches on this car before we took possession, together with their representative) The tire can be seen in the attached photo. The initial agreement for the rental car was under 200 Euros (agreement attached). The final bill they came up with was Euros 498.53 (more than double).

Today, I had the absolute worst experience with Budget Car Rental. Traveling with my sister and her husband we split expenses for everything. Two months before our trip to Vegas, she rented our convertible, paid in full with her debit card. Upon arrival, we made our way through the long budget lines to pick up our car only to be told we couldn't get the convertible with the debit card but we could get a sedan with the card. This made no sense to us and my husband even offered to add our credit card to the reservation as back up. Still they refused. The man behind the counter acted like he couldn't have cared less about our problem. Finally we insisted on speaking with a manager who told us she didn't care that the online sales allowed us to reserve and pay in full for this rental because she couldn't get us our reserved car.
Our only alternative was to cancel the original reservation and make another with our credit card since my sister and her husband have no credit cards and deal in cash. The manager gave us a 1-800 number to make the arrangements and it was Avis Car Rental, the first person we were dealing with said to just tell them to transfer us, we were then told by Avis they couldn't transfer us to Budget. So again, we insisted on a number in order to make the required changes, got it, was able to cancel without penalty, we hope since it's going to be at least 48 hours before Budget makes a refund to my sister's bank account. Then it was time to make our new reservation for the originally reserved convertible. Guess what, it was $100 more because we couldn't get the same Internet deal we got two months ago. In my book, this should be classified as an illegal bait and switch!

I had reserved a car for pickup at Charlotte Douglas Airport online through budget.com, dropping off in VA the following day. Upon arriving at Charlotte airport I found out I had made a mistake on my reservation (my fault). The gentleman at the Budget counter would not assist me and told me I had to call the 800 number to correct this and they did not have any cars available other than a very small car. Upon calling the 800 number the gentleman informed me that he could get me in the same size car I had reserved however there would be an additional charge which I was okay with.
Upon reviewing my credit card I found I was charged the original reservation of and another charge of $106 more than he had told me. When I contacted customer service to clarify the charges I was told that the difference of $106 was for an upgrade (which I did not have). In addition, upon picking up the Budget moving truck in Weyers Cave, VA we found the truck to be VERY dirty inside the cab and the check engine light was on. We were told by the agent that it had been checked out and was fine. This was not very comforting since we were traveling almost 2000 miles across country. After spending $1200 on a moving truck and having to pay almost $300 on a one day rental car I am very frustrated with my experience with Budget. This is the first time I have tried Budget and unfortunately will not being using them again, nor can I recommend it to anyone.

I am not going to go into the painful details of my experiences with Budget. First - Budget incapable of renting a car for more than 30 days without initiating a new contract. They do not explain this process. They require you to either return the car to the original location, or call them with the mileage on your car to initiate a new contract.
Second - Local Budget office - Newark, NJ International Airport is impossible to reach by telephone. General customer service will tell you they are too busy to answer their phone. You can not leave a message. Thus in relation to my situation I could not call in the mileage and general customer service would not accept the mileage account. Moreover, customer service explained they have no back line number to reach the Newark office; consequently, there was nothing they could do to assist me.
Third - Budget customer service is outsourced. Getting someone that clearly articulates English and can understand English clearly is impossible. It took me two days to finally be connected with a Supervisor. I was told one would call me back within an hour and never did. I spoke with no less than nice representative before I could resolve this ridiculous issue of having to create a new rental agreement for more that 30 days.
Fourth - Budget does not give honest quotes. When I asked for an additional day rental on my agreement I was quoted $36.80; however the representative at the counter said my additional rental was $95 because of the additional taxes. Confounding! I presented them with the representative's over the phone quote and her name and employee number. What needed to happen was waiving those fees. It didn't. When I called to complain about this matter I was continually told these are valid charges and could not be waived. Poor response - especially when I was told you need to read your agreement we need to make money on our rentals.
Fifth - Be aware that using the EZ Pass on your car incurs a $23.70 fee from Budget. Why? This is pure profit on their part. They pay a bulk fee for EZ Pass once paid on the vehicle it is a done deal. And don't use the Henry Hudson bridge which is an EZ Pass only bridge. The signage is poor. You would not know it because it appears in the bridge sign. And of course Budget charges you $23.70. You can get a one time waiver on this fee if you call EZ Pass directly. I don't mind paying the toll, but the charge from Budget is unacceptable. Fifth - I have never encountered in all my car renting experiences so many hurdles in contracts and customer service as I have with Budget. They have lost a customer for good. They acting like that is my problem. "You do not have a way home, too bad, sleep in the airport." They are the worst and I will not rent from them again!!!

We waited for over 2 hours to pick up our rental car at the Orlando Airport, which was an ordeal that started with the flight being delayed for over 6 hours. Started to drive the rental and noticed a terrible smell coming from somewhere inside the car (not sure from where). It was a mixture of vomit, BO and baby poop causing us to drive with the air at full blast and windows down the whole time. My little girl almost threw up coming back from dinner and we had to pull over just in case. Called the rental place repeatedly, but the call goes straight to the general number. Spoke with customer reps, supervisors etc. and the best they could do was: go back at the rental place, exchange the vehicle (which they don't have – I need a minivan as we are 6 people on vacation) and if they don't have a similar vehicle, wait for them to clean it and take the same one back.
I tried to explain to them that I am on vacation and is unfair to me to waste half a day on legwork for something they did. (The rental place is 45 min. from where we're staying). So, a lot of sorry's, but no solutions to make it easier on the customer. After everything they said on the phone, I could hear only one thing: "We got your money. If you want to solve the problem we created for you, go ahead, run around and solve it yourself; we too busy for you."

Please stay away from Budget Rent-A-Car at Flagstaff airport Arizona. We had a vacation package thru American Airlines. Budget was supposedly our rental car on February 7, 2017 to Feb. 11, 2017. American Airlines is the only airlines in the whole airport. Budget knew that a family of five was coming but when we get to the airport around 9:00 pm they, "Budget" were gone. They left my family high and dry in the airport after a long day of travel. We tried to call them, nobody would answer.

After being offered an upgrade by Mr. Benjie **, I rejected and explained that I was getting the cheapest deal for being on an student budget. Also, I presented the reservation paper having the value paid in advance. In addition, I mentioned that I had paid the reservation in advance to get a better deal and that nothing else should be added to my credit card. I was told that nothing else would be added. However, he added an extra charge of $70.65 without mentioning that to me and without my authorization. Beyond that, it took more than 20 minutes to get the car.
Moreover, I tried to resolve the problem when returning the car, but Chantel told me that she could not help me. She gave me Mr Benjie's contact so I could have my issue resolved. However, I sent him an email to resolve the problem, but had no answer so far. Later, he answered me saying that my signature authorized the charge. Be careful! They will add extra charge to your bill expecting you will not pay attention while signing the bill!

Also when I returned car, the woman never said anything when I commented on bill nor thank you, bite me, nothing. They just want to get your money and get you out of there. I have had the worst customer service experience in my life tonight. I made reservations for a rental like I have been doing for the past five months because I wrecked my vehicle and the new vehicle I ordered has not been shipped yet. I proceed to the counter and the customer service representative was rude from inception, and it was not what she was saying but how she was saying it… She asked for my driver’s license and credit card, then she asked for a telephone number, she then asks for an additional number and I told her that I did not have one... She tells me I can't rent to you if you do not have two contact numbers. I then respond, "You have to be kidding me." She says, "No I am not." So I tell her, "I can just give you a number", by this time she has already made up in her mind that she is not going to rent to me at all...
I tell her that I'm about to call corporate, she tells me that she does not care and also tells me to get away from her counter and call her manager because again she is not going to rent to me... while I'm at the counter trying to contact corporate. She pushed a button to signal the airport police, so they come and by this time I'm so livid, I have tears in my eyes because I cannot believe that this situation has escalated to this... I'm extremely embarrassed that people are looking at me and I'm involved in this type of confrontation.
I've experienced racism a lot throughout my life so I know it when I see if even if it's not actually stated. I feel discriminated against... I feel humiliated… I had to make another reservation with another rental company which charged a higher rate and all my plans for this evening was ruined. I felt like this lady abused the very little power she had, she denied me the ability to rent with the reservation I had previously book. I feel that I have grounds for a discrimination lawsuit so I will be contacting a lawyer in the morning but please can you HELP!

BEWARE of BUDGET rental at the airport. I rented a 12 passenger van to drive friends to DC. Here's the story. Saturday morning it was suggested that I should pick up $30 insurance on the 12 passenger van since it would not be covered under my family insurance. I agreed. Well today my card was charged $117 for 2 days of $40 insurance and 2 days of roadside service. The guy NEVER said it was $40 or PER day and I NEVER discussed or was offered roadside service. I just returned from Budget and the manager would not take off the $40 per day but said he would take off the roadside part. (I was too pissed to wait for this). He said that since I signed it was my fault, I told him (maybe yelled) that I would have signed almost anything at that point because they were 45 min. late with the van and I was VERY upset. I told him I would tell all my running friends who rent there about their ** business ethic. I plan to Yelp the hell out of them and warn everyone.

I rented a Budget car in Penticton BC to drive to Vancouver for a week. Due to tire pressure sensor issues I had to have the tires by a tire shop in Hope BC. They discovered that three out of the four tires has sidewall separation. I was allowed to continue on to Vancouver with the understanding that any change in driving characteristics would see me off the to the side immediately. An exchange was arranged for that same night, at the Vancouver Airport. The second vehicle was front wheel drive and there was so little front tire tread on either tire as to be dangerous. Another exchange was arranged for and the third vehicle has a ten-inch crack, that apparently was thought to be just fine with the Budget crew.
My suggestion to anyone renting any vehicle is don't just check the body on your walk around. Run your hand over the outside of each tire, checking for outward bumps. That is separation and look at the tread on the tires, especially the driving tires, front or rear, depending on front wheel drive or not. One thing to be aware of, .if you find and mention a fault, that makes you responsible should you have an incident as a result of that fault. You can't blame the rental outfit for poor tires if you have already pointed it out.

I was having car troubles so I needed to rent a car in the meantime while my car was getting repaired. I decided to rent a car from Budget for a week to be safe not knowing how long I would need it. I am under 25 so I paid a pretty hefty fee for renting the car, but I was in a bind and I decided to just take the hit. I prepaid online through their website roughly $450 for the 2nd cheapest option they had and selected the same return location. When I went to pick up the car, I asked just to make sure, if I returned the car early which was likely, I would be charged the daily rate for the days I used it + the fees and refunded the rest. I was assured I would. My family was able to help me out and get me a car I could use for the week, so I returned the rental car the same day less than 8 hours after I picked it up, but an hour away at a different location (pickup location Flint airport, return location Lansing airport 50 miles apart).
When I returned the car I didn't think of returning it to a different location that what I had selected and didn't know if it mattered. The customer service rep gave me the receipt and it showed I was only getting a refund for less than half of what I paid and it said I had paid with cash, which I didn't and I thought was odd. I asked why I was getting so little back, and she said it might be due to the return location discrepancy, which I didn't think would be a problem since the locations were so close, but I asked if I could just cancel the transaction and return it to the original location. I was told that wasn't allowed but that it wasn't the reason for being shorted on the refund, but there was nothing further she could do and I had to call customer service.
This was on a Sunday evening, so I had to wait till the next day to call (their customer service line was open for another half hour after I returned the vehicle but I was on hold for a 10 minutes before I just gave up). I called the next day, long wait on hold but I was driving so I had time to spare, and the customer service rep seemed helpful and gave me a case # that I could use if I had to call again and it would have the notes of what we discussed. He told me that I was indeed due an additional refund of about $100, but he said couldn't give me an exact amount, which I didn't think too much of, and that it would take 3-5 business days to get.
A week goes by and I get nothing, no e-mail confirmation, no refund, no follow up. I call back the following Monday, and once again explain my situation. The customer service rep looks at the notes on file and determines that what I was told by the first rep was right, but he never processed the refund so it would take an additional 3-5 business days to get, but it was around $100 and he also wouldn't be able to give me an exact amount. I asked for an updated receipt showing exactly what I was charged for, the adjustment, and the exact amount of the refund so that I would know exactly what I was getting and also so I would know that it was actually being processed this time and I wouldn't waste a week waiting for something that would never come.
He agreed and told me I would get an e-mail shortly after the call and gave me a different case #. Three days went by and I hadn't received the receipt, or the refund but I knew there were a couple of business days left in the timeframe. I called once again just to be sure I wasn't wasting my time. I gave the case # I had gotten from the 2nd customer service rep, and I was told that it wasn't a valid case # and he needed my rental agreement #. I thought that was weird, but I gave him the # and I explained the situation again once more. He told me I was calling too early and I should wait the remaining 2 business days and then proceed, but I was only asking for the receipt and confirmation that it had indeed been processed this time. He put me on hold while he checked, and then he told me that in full disclosure I wasn't getting any further refund than what I had initially gotten!
I was in fact charged an hourly rate of $31/hr (who in the world would agree to that) and that what I had been charged was correct. I told him that was ridiculous and while I would never agree to that, the charges didn't even match up to that amount. After a back and forth and me clearly being upset, he relented and told me that they would indeed honor the daily rate charge and that I would get the refund. I asked when it was going to come since at this point I didn't know what or who to trust, but he assured me it would come in the next 2 business days as originally promised.
Now this is where I really started to feel like I was being taken advantage of and this company was being completely shady and dishonest. If my refund had been processed when they said it was, why in the world was I suddenly being told I was charged an hourly rate and I wasn't getting a refund? Was he lying when he was saying I was being charged an hourly or was he lying by telling me I was charged the daily rate and still getting a refund? I didn't trust anything he was saying, but I just asked for a receipt so I could see for myself and hung up.
I got the receipt 10 minutes later and it was exactly the same as the original receipt I had gotten, didn't show any adjustments or additional refund. So I called back once more to see what was going on. This was now the 4th customer service rep I had dealt with, not including the 2 in person in picking up and returning the car. He now tells me that I was charged a fee for dropping off the car to a different location than what I had selected online when I reserved it and due to that I was charged correctly and I would not be getting any additional refund. Now again this is the 4th rep I talked to on the phone and the 4th different story I was told. I asked him how in the world that was possible, how the fee was that big, and why I was told a different story by everyone I talked to. He simply told me the other people weren't doing their jobs and he was correct. I then asked to speak to a manager.
The manager finally helped me resolve the situation - he apologized for the nightmare I went through and his explanation was that there was a system error because my file/receipt said I paid in cash when I didn't, I pre-paid with my card, and that a check refund would take 6-8 weeks but since I did pay with my card he would get it to me within the next 2 business days like I was promised, and he gave me an exact amount of what I would be getting. He told me I would get a receipt, but it may take until the next day because he had to send it to a different department.
I got the receipt the next day, it was still exactly the same as the original receipt, but I did get the amount I was promised refunded the following day. While I was glad to get what I deserved back, I still have zero trust in this company at all. Dishonesty, incompetence, disingenuousness all describe Budget and my experience with them. I will never rent from them again and I will tell anyone I know who is considering them to follow suit.

At the counter the salesperson was fast talking and even though my husband is sure he told them he did not need any upgrades, he apparently received one to our surprise when we received our visa statement. My experience with Budget over our vacation in Salem Oregon, was completely dissatisfying. Our family was traveling by plane from San Diego to Portland Oregon, where we needed a rental car. We rented through Costco and got a great deal on a Minivan, which was what we needed with 7 passengers. When we arrived at Portland airport we were required to take a Budget shuttle to the rental car location. While we watched every other rental car shuttles pass us by several times, we continued to wait over 45 minutes for our shuttle from Budget to arrive. Once getting to the rental car location (and waiting another 20 minutes to be helped, with only 2 people ahead of me) we were told that they didn't have any mini-vans or any other cars to meet our needs. After reluctantly agreeing to take a 4-Runner with the promise that we could turn it in at the Salem location the next day for a mini-van at no cost (including the gas), we left.
The 4-Runner smelled horribly of cigarette smoke and was not in the greatest condition. The next morning as agreed upon, we went to return the 4-Runner for a 7-passenger mini-van and were told again, that they could not accommodate us (and we had to fill-up the tank for the 50 miles we drove). There was NO effort to give us what we needed. When we attempted to talk to a manager, one was not available. When we called to discuss with customer service on the phone, we were told, "what would you like us to do?" We can be understanding of the late shuttle, the unavailable van, the smelly car, and ANOTHER unavailable car...what we do NOT understand is terrible customer service.
This could have been helped with the person from Budget offering to give us an upgrade (she claimed the Dodge Journey we got WAS an upgrade from a van...ummmm NO it isn't...not when you have kids and luggage in tow), offering us a gas refill, getting us a van from another location, or giving us a refund and we would go to another location. Any kind of simple compensation, apology, or some type of problem-solving for our issue would have been not only appreciated but expected. We were met time and time again with no ability for anyone working at Budget to assist us in this manner. Not only will we never rent from Budget again, we will be telling anyone we know of our experiences. We now have missed time on our vacation dealing with this matter and do not have a car big enough to meet our needs.

I reserved my rental car online and pre-paid for it to save money. Upon arriving at the Budget rental place in Manassas, Virginia, the man at the counter insisted I get an upgrade. I informed him I did not want an upgrade it, I just wanted the rental car that I prepaid for because I needed to get going. He told me that it was only $5 day please take it. I said no. He said he would give it to me for half of that. I said no. He told me he would just give it to me for free. It was then that I realized it was the only kind of car he had available to release for rental. I agreed if it was for free I would take the car. He printed me a receipt and it shows that I owed $150. I asked him why. He said the rental car was $45 a day plus I was going to have it for two extra days. I told him the rental car upgrade was supposed to be free and I didn't owe for the two extra days. Only one, per my prepaid reservation.
He printed another receipt and I now owe $90. I asked what was the $90 for. He said he took off the upgrade, but that I still had two days that I had to pay on the rental. I told him one day was paid for and the other day should have been $34, per the proof that I had on the prepaid agreement. He told me not to worry about it, he would fix it. The next receipt now had a charge for only $39. I told him that was fine and I initialed it and signed it. As I was leaving, I realized that he had changed my return time to eight hours earlier. I told him that I needed to go could he please void that one and fix the time to eight hours later. He said no that it was already in the system and that he promised when I came back he'd make sure he did a dealer write off and only charge me the $39.
When I came back, he did not do the dealer write off and charged me $100. I reminded him of the story and that he lied, and he told me that he would have fixed it but I didn't tell him soon enough. I told him he already had a receipt printed and it already charged my card, how was I supposed to tell him. He told me to take it up with Budget. Upon calling Budget, which this must be a problem for them because they are well-versed in the answer, they said that while he discounted the vehicle he changed the time of return so that it would make up the difference in the money, knowing that I would not be back early enough.
I have contacted my bank to do an investigation, as I made the reservation through the bank. I have read hundreds of reviews that Budget does this regularly at all of their locations. Most people do not think to read reviews about car rental places, because it's a car rental company. You really should heed these warnings and use something like Thrifty or Dollar, as their reputation is so much better. Avoid Budget at all costs (which is also Avis).

I have been renting from Budget for over 5 years. I had never had any issues with renting and having the vehicle I reserved available until last week and this week. I had to attend my grandmother funeral. I reserved a full size car last week and I got dropped off at the airport in Jackson, MS but when I got there, the employee tells me they are out of vehicles and she don't know why they keep letting customers reserve rentals when we are out. Well, it's not my fault that I was allowed to reserve a vehicle when clearly there were no vehicles available. Instead of the employee trying to get me a vehicle to accommodate me for them not having the vehicle I reserved available, she tells me to go elsewhere or try Thrifty to see if they have a full size available. Then she tells me "all the other vehicle we have in the lobby is reserved for other members."
Well excuse me. I am a member as well who made reservation just like the other members. And she lied like they didn't have any more vehicles at all to rent out. I stayed 4 hours waiting because I didn't have a way from that location. So I contacted the customer service line and it took me well over an hour to speak to the right representative. When I finally spoke to them, they guaranteed that my rental that I had scheduled for the 17th of the month will be available and he will take $20 off my reservation. Ok so I took his word for it and he did apply the $20 discount. Now, the reservation for the rental was on the 17th and it was reserved almost a month ago and was scheduled to pick up on the 17th of this month. Well to my surprise, I went to pick the vehicle up which was suppose to be a SUV (Traverse) for 7 individuals.
Let's just say all I got was a Nissan Juke which doesn't fit nearly 7 peoples. I had to cancel going to my family reunion because I was told by the employee that there wasn't any SUV available because they had rented them all out for spring break. Out of a month and they didn't give a care that I had reserved this vehicle a month early and then I was charged the SUV price for a little compact car. This will be the last time I ever rent with Budget. Every since they merged with Avis, their customer service and company sucks. The representatives are rude, and they save rentals for their family to make sure they have vehicles available. The representative was standing around on his phone, not paying attention to people coming up and telling them they wouldn't open until 9:00 (open was supposed to be 8:30).
I got to the counter, gave my debit card and ID and was told my credit wasn't good enough to continue the rental. I was floored! Their TOS on the website say you could be subject to a credit check, but not anything about being denied the rental if your credit isn't at a certain point (545). I asked for a refund and the rep told me to go online. He was very unsympathetic.
I called the Budget toll-free number and was told they were charging me a $150 for canceling. WHAT?! I started to cry, that news was financially devastating for me, and the rep just kept repeating himself. He told me that even though I was being charged now, I would get my rental fee PLUS the cancellation fee back. I found out later through the Budget social media group that this was misinformation. So I'm charged a fee for canceling even though I was denied the rental? No one will help me. I'm frustrated, and now everyone needs to know. What shoddy practices!

I made a reservation online 24 hours prior to needing a simple economy vehicle (Hyundai Elantra) while my personal vehicle was in the shop for a few days, PREPAID for this vehicle and received a confirmation number, showed up the next day at my designated pick-up time, and was told they were all out of vehicles except for a Camaro.
Figuring they'd step up and do the right thing and honor my PREPAID reservation by upgrading me to the Camaro, I was abruptly told they couldn't and that I either had to pay an extra $40 per day for the Camaro or I could cancel my reservation and walk - just what one needs to hear after going through the hassle of planning ahead by making a reservation and PREPAYING for the rental in advance (presumably to guarantee the rental's availability). Oh, and just to make sure we're not mincing words here Budget, the Webster Dictionary defines "RESERVATION" as follows: "an arrangement to have something held for your use at a later time." By the way, have I mentioned that I PREPAID to have a rental available upon arrival?!?
After leaving and calling the 800 corporate number and getting transferred around, I spoke to a supervisor who stated I'd be getting a full-refund in three to five business days, and to allegedly disregard the email that arrived during our conversation advising that I was going to incur a $150 cancellation fee! I ended up calling the South Glendale Enterprise rental facility and got a nicer vehicle at a cheaper rate. Wasted about an hour of my time dealing with Budget, and as a result of this experience, will never use nor recommend Budget Rent-A-Car again. Use at your own risk; you have been warned.

I recently flew into Austin for a job interview. Decided to rent a car from Budget instead of doing SuperShuttle as I normally would when visiting friends in the area given that most, if not all, of my travel expenditures would be covered. I'm given a Jeep Grand Cherokee and advised that I must return the vehicle with a full tank or be charged. Two days later, just as I'm preparing to return the vehicle to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, I stop off at a gas station near the airport and refill. Arrive at the airport rental car return location (at approximately 5 AM) to discover that no agent is available to check me / my vehicle back in.
Make my 6:30 AM departure back home only to discover several hours later that I've been charged for failing to refuel the vehicle I had actually refueled just off the airport property. I place an immediate call to Budget Customer Service and am told (by a male customer service representative with somewhat of an attitude) that I need to provide documentation supporting my assertion that I refueled the vehicle in order for the charge ($58.22) to be refunded. Angrily, I locate this information on the website for my credit card company, print and scan this information (as I'm told screenshots would be considered inadequate), and e-mail to Budget Customer Service.
Several days later, I received an e-mail with assurances from the company that the funds would be returned in two-to-three business days. A check of my credit card statement later confirmed that the erroneously charged refueling fee had been refunded to my credit card. While I'm certainly happy to have caught the error, been able to provide documentation showing the error on the part of the company, and have the matter quickly resolved, I remained disturbed by the fact that this happened at all. Imagine how many others this has happened to with their rentals upon return. If you factored a similar charge ($58.22) times 100 cars per day, the company could be ripping off folks (who legitimately refueled their vehicles) to the tune of almost $6000 a day. That seems both insane and absurd to say the least.
Rent your car, enjoy your rental, but be sure to return with caution, and check your credit card statements vigilantly. While I'm certainly not in the poor house over the incident, think about how many times companies are simply allowed to get away with this sort of thing because people never actually check their statements. Be careful folks.

A reasonable car turns expensive. I booked through carrental8.com. Everything went smoothly. We got to Budget at the airport and they ask you if you want liability insurance saying it is State law so they completely scammed scared us into the insurance, $15 A day which adds up. We called our insurance company the next day and like someone else said we didn't need that insurance. Make sure you have all your facts before finishing the rental. We called Budget the next day less than 24 hrs. They would not refund the liability. Poor customer service the man argued and said he would refund $20,"haha", for the hassle. Still haven't seen the refund. I guess next time I won't use Budget. They say contact customer service for issues. That's a lie. They don't help!

I rented a van from London Waterloo branch one week ago and they charged my credit card. This morning (less than 24 hours from pickup time) they texted me and informed that the reservation was canceled due to security checks. I called them and they cannot give me any explanation even though I booked with them last year with no issue. I explained them we can change the reservation under my boyfriend's name but they tell me they are sold out before even cancel my reservation and refund my money, so it means my booked van was gone already. It sounds as overbooking.
After reading the terms and conditions nothing is clear about those checks so I guess that was just an excuse for their overbooking problem. Rebecca **, the branch manager was quite rude to me and told me she is not allowed to explain the reason/s why the check was not passed. After all, they didn't give me any solution to problem. So I am now without reservation, without moving and with a full house to move.

I then went to twitter and posted my complaint there. I got a response to email **. I emailed my story to them. Within hours, I got an email that as a courtesy they were going to refund my money and drop the charges. Not entirely pleased that I had to go through so many routes and so much back and forth to get my money back.

We rented a car from Budget through Costco. The price was decent. We went to pick up the car, and I was busy with one of my kids while my husband took care of the rental. About 15 minutes after we left I looked at the receipt and noticed that the bill was for triple what we had rented for. Looking it over, I saw that somehow we had added insurance to our rental. It was after midnight, and I tried calling Budget national Customer Service. They told me I needed to call the actual rental desk. I called the rental desk. They told me I needed to come in to remove the insurance. Already being out 20+ minutes, and being very late at night, we would not have gotten to our destination until after 2AM had we turned around to take care of this. He told me I could speak to a manager. He put me on hold. After 30 minutes on hold, I gave up and tried calling back. No one picked up the phone at all. I gave up trying to call them.
The next day, I tried calling the desk again. Again, no answer. I called Costco, and they were able to put me through to the desk. I spoke to a lady, who had a manager call me back. The manager was able to finally remove the insurance. I told him that my husband had not been told that he could pick not to have the insurance. He was just given 2 different options for insurance, and was told he needed to pick one of them.
Now, a week later, I see a charge on my credit card bill for about 1.5 times the rental price from Costco. I pulled up the bill, and I see that we were charged for roadside assistance!!! My husband said he wasn't even offered Roadside assistance as an option!!! When I called up Customer Service, all they told me was that they had on file that we had requested it!!! I am really unpleased with Budget's customer service and I am hoping to be able to get my money back somehow or another. I'm not quite sure how to fight it. We definitely did NOT request roadside assistance to be added to the rental!

I just recently rented a car from Budget Rent A Car. Really pricey considering I'm under 25 years old, it added an additional $250 for the week on to my total so I ended up paying around $500. The following day after we returned the rental car, I noticed that an additional $90 had been taken out of my account. I called and they said it was because I returned the car a day late, which was false. I returned the rental car about an hour early the day that it was due. The lady on the phone even admitted to technical difficulties that had happened all day the day that our car was due. So the lady said we still had to make a claim to get my money back and that it would take about 4 business day.
Well 4 business days later and I find out that my claim had been denied. This had been an ongoing struggle to get the money back to me that was wrongfully taken. Budget scams people. I think that one out of five stars is being too generous. I had to call back an additional time because I was not about to have them take all of this money from me. The guy ended up giving me a full refund but it took about two hours on the phone with him. I am still waiting for my refund. It's been two days, I'm hoping I don't have to call again. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.

He told me to sign here and there, and I thought it was all good to go. When I got my credit card statement I saw that they charged me extra 50 dollars for insurance. I guess it is my fault that I did not double-check the price at the counter and trusted the clerk when he told me to sign the papers. Will never rent through Budget again.

Waited to drop my car off, the following business day I was charged additional money for taxes, and an entire day extra of insurance. I reserved a car from Budget almost one year in advance of Jan. 31, 2017, for a period of one month. I rented so far in advance because I knew that this time period in Tucson, Arizona is the busiest of the year. Although I reserved a Hyundai Elantra or similar, I received a VW Jetta. I did not accept any additional insurance as I have always been told that if you have your own car insurance this was not necessary. First, when I picked up the car there was no one in the garage to even show me how to turn on the car lights! And there was no instruction manual in the glove compartment.
After driving the car one day, the Engine Light went on. I drove back to the airport and they gave me another car, this time a Toyota Prius. When I mentioned about the lack of instruction manual I was told that people take them out of the cars. Why would someone remove them from cars if they don't own that car? Again, no one to help, and no instruction manual. The next day, while driving on a freeway, I had my first ever tire blowout.
I was lucky I wasn't killed. All that was left of the tire was the rim! I called Budget Emergency Assistance and they sent a repair truck and the tire was changed to the "donut" tire. At the time I was about 25 miles from where I was staying. The repair person told me not to drive more than 50 miles on the temporary tire; the airport is more than 25 miles away. I called Budget and asked if they could send someone to exchange the car, being that it'd be more than 50 miles, plus the fact that this was already going to be my third car in four days!
They said I would have to pay for towing the car as they do not do that and I could ride with the tow company. I didn't do that and drove back to the airport again. The people at the desk were not sympathetic in the least. Next I got a Chevy something. Again no manual in the glove compartment. I asked an Alamo person who was in the garage if their cars came with manuals and he said all their cars did. Anyway, after two weeks with this car, it started chugging and hesitating. I made it back to the airport and again I exchanged the car (number four in less than four weeks). This time they upgraded to a Buick but I think because it was all that was available.
I turned in the car Feb. 28. The following day I receive an email that approximately $200 is being added to my bill to pay for the tire, the emergency road service, and a $25.00 "administrative fee." Astonished I called the phone number and was told that because I didn't take their insurance I was responsible for everything that happens to the car.
I also explained that I carry AAA Emergency Road services, but I thought I had to call Budget Emergency services and I had no idea that I would be charged. It seems that if I could have used my AAA! As far as the "administrative fee," that's it, no explanation. I would dispute these charges with my credit card company, but after reading previous complaints against Budget, I'm afraid my credit rating will go down if I don't pay. I posted on social media and I'm doing this, telling everyone not to use Budget, ever!

I had been researching and comparing car rental companies for my vacation with my daughter. Online reviews gave a decent score for BUDGET Rent A Car and their prices were lower than most, so I thought it was a safe choice. I placed my reservation online and instantly my account was charged the entire price, but the reservation didn't take and the online form said that they were having problems with my card information, so try again. I called the banking institution for my card and that charge had most certainly been applied. So, I did not want to put my information in again.
I called the customer service number listed on the Budget website and spoke to someone who mentioned that the reservation had been cancelled because there was a "system update" when I made my reservation. He said I would see my money back in 4-5 days. I asked how I would be compensated for this mix-up and he said that whoever else I talked to would tell me the same thing. At no point did he offer to make me a new reservation. I asked to speak with his supervisor. He said his supervisor would tell me the same thing.
After a 5 minute hold, I spoke with the supervisor and the supervisor did tell me the same thing. I asked him how he planned to compensate me for my trouble. He said that he is "reservations" and did not have the ability to do that, but would transfer me to customer service if I wanted. At no point did the supervisor of "reservations" offer to make me a new reservation.
After another few minutes on hold, I spoke to customer service. She told me that I had a "ghost reservation," that it basically put a hold on my money but kicked out the reservation. She said she could get my money to me within 24-48 hours (a little better than 4-5 days). I asked her how she planned to compensate me for all of this frustration. She said she could get me a $20 coupon if I had a profile with them. I told her I did not and she said that she couldn't help me unless I signed up with them, then called back to have my $20 coupon applied.
I mentioned to her that I did not feel confident in using their company now and that if my reservation did not take, why would creating a profile be any different? She said "Well thank you for calling Avis Budget, this is (her name). Have a nice day." (I did not understand why they needed a profile when they already got my mailing address and information from my "ghost reservation.) At no point did customer service offer to make me a new reservation. Three different people, a company holding my money hostage, yet at no point did any of them offer to make me a new reservation.

I rented a car from LAX on Sunday Feb. 26 and I am still in possession of this car but here is my complaint. 1, the computers were down when I rented the car and waited in line for almost 2 hours. The representatives were great, very friendly. They had to hand write everything, things happen but my representative breezed right through. Now, I get my keys, go out to check the car, there were multiple dents, dings and scratches on the car, when I got in, it literally smelt like someone just smoked a whole pack of cigarettes in the car with the windows ups. There were ashes on the dashboard and didn't look like it had been cleaned. I was already running 2 hours late for my check in with my unit but luckily they understood. The car is also hard to turn, like it needs power steering fluid or the fluid line was busted.
4 days after renting the car, I dropped my keys by the car, went to pick them up and saw that the front tire is almost bawled. I am in Oxnard, California and I had to drive to San Bernardino this weekend. I did not want to drive all that way on bald tires and didn't have time to drive down to LA. So, I called Oxnard airport, Ventura, Camarillo and Thousand Oaks, told every single person my problem and NONE of them had a car to exchange with me. I had them put my name on a waiting list so when they had a car available, they'd call me.
Well, 4 days later, no one has called. I ended up having to rent a SECOND car from Enterprise because I wasn't going to drive 3 hours on two bawled front tires. This is the worst experience I have ever had with renting a car. It's ridiculous. It's a 2 weeks rental, they're making money, at least give me a decent car. I don't care about luxuries of a car but I shouldn't have to be scared that I'm not going to make it from point A to point B because the tires are worn down or the steering is going to go out. This needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt.

So I said to him, I have $4,000 cash on me and $3,000 available on the debit and you still won't rent to me...not a chance. We were left stranded without a car and had to walk 2 miles in very harsh winter weather before we could find a warm place to get out of the cold and had call for a ride. However, the garage folks told me (and Budget office staff) that the leak was from a previous "mushroom" plug patch and that the tire was defective and couldn't be repaired.
The local Budget staff apologized for renting me a car with a defective tire, asked me to sign an incident form and issued a replacement car. Dealing with Budget Car Rental for the 1st & last time! Initially I rented a car from them for 24hrs which is about $100. I will take fault for oversleeping and missing my return time by 15-20 mins, which of course we would expect a late charge so I'll accept that $60, but I called the office and told the representative I will be extending the rental; figure the extra $100/day would have me at $200 which would be a waste for 2 days when Budget offers the same vehicle at $335.99 for the week, so I told them I will keep the car instead, her replied no problem.
1 week later (today 2/17/17), I'm on time with the return and get hit with a total bill of $640.13 after taxes!!! Of course I pay it, go home and immediately start playing the pass the buck game with customer service as I try to find an explanation. After literally the 4th c/s number I got passed around to, the rep Robert wasn't able to help at all so I was transferred to Regina the "floor Manager". I explain the situation to her and asked for a breakdown. She told me $10 was an extension fee, $60 late fee, $60 misc fee which turned out to be for a letter that they claim they sent me requesting for me to return the vehicle, oh and the sneaky $52.38 airport fee for picking up the vehicle from the airport instead of driving literally 20 mins to the retail location.
My question was if I was charged an extension fee then how am I being charged the additional $60 misc fee for a letter that should have never went out because I called and received a extension. Regina stated my credit card didn't go through when they tried to charge it. My response was If it never went through why was I told yes for the extension and charged for it?? She's stumped then offers to go half with me on 1 late fee and return $30 plus tax. After being robbed for about $200 that's not an acceptable solution to this problem when clearly I called and was charged for an extension. When we finally got to the car rental counter we were advised that Budget could no longer honor our reservation because we were no longer meeting the three-day minimum for our rate. They wanted to charge $100 more than our original reservation, think about that. Because we were keeping the car two hours less they wanted to charge us more than $100 more. When we insisted it was a flight delay we were advised to take it up with the airline. What a ridiculous answer. We asked the agent to assist us in finding a different rate. We could use a AAA, military, AARP or outlet discount. We were told all he could offer us was the walk-up rate which was much more expensive.
We walked away from the counter, pulled out an iPad and found the exact same rental on Priceline for a total of $99 including taxes and fees. That was $75 less than our original reservation and $175 less than they wanted to charge us because of the delay. We went back to the counter to the same agent and showed him the new reservation. He then spent 20 minutes trying to upsell us and trying to convince us to pay their ridiculous damage fees, gas prepay, etc. We could have a BMW SUV for the discounted rate of $50. Fortunately we asked the right questions because it was really $50 a day, not $50 for the rental period. He was relentless. We held firm on our new reservation. He then directed us to the wrong location to pick up the car and gave us the car furthest away. FYI, the agent told us that if you make a three-day reservation and return it in less than three days, they would charge you more for the rental. We will never rent from Budget again.

Flew into Honolulu airport for a family vacation on 1/26/1977 decided to rent a minivan from Budget. While out doing some site seeing my kids were going through the overhead compartments and found a ** pipe with drugs. Called Budget right away and was informed that if we wanted to we could bring the car back to swap it out or if we preferred the vehicle and we would be compensated upon return of the vehicle. Being more than an hour away from the rental location we decided to dispose of the pipe and drugs rather than risk getting a felony offense for possession while driving with it in the car.
On return of the car we showed Budget the photos. They failed to give us any type of compensation for their neglect of cleaning out the car. I was told that we should of brought the vehicle back with the methamphetamine pipe so they could document it or filed a report with the police. We were never told this by the agent on the phone. This whole situation is very upsetting. I feel that Budget has not tried to make it right. I had extended my rental for another 26 hrs (before we found the pipe with drugs). I was also charged for a third day for two hrs! They were neglectful! They did not clean out this vehicle which put my family and I at risk!

When we picked up the car it was dirty inside, there was no fuel in the tank (and no fuelling facility at the pickup point) and the odometer reading did not match the paperwork. We pointed this out to the manager who signed our rental agreement to confirm this was true. Budget still insisted on charging us for fuel and a refueling charge. We challenged this through our credit card company who refunded the charge to us and took up the issue with Budget. At this point Budget refused to investigate the matter and did not respond to communication from the credit card company. Instead they chased us for the debt (which wasn't owed) and refused to conduct the internal investigation because we had referred the matter to the credit card company. When I ran to discuss this all they would say was "it is company policy not to complete the investigation once the matter was referred to the credit card company".
Despite the fact that they have not investigated the matter they insist the debt is owed and they are not interested in evidence or the truth. I pay or they pass the matter on to a debt collector. This will trash my credit rating in the UK and the US but they don't care about customers or whether the debt is really owed or not. I could pay the money to avoid the hassle and the inevitable severe consequences of having my credit rating trashed but there is a principle here. They wouldn't deal with my credit card company and they won't complete an internal investigation now or deal with me. I'll fight this in the courts.
I complied with the rental agreement, they didn't. They provide a lousy service and expect me to pay extra. They are refusing to deal with this because of some internal policy that I couldn't possibly have been aware of. Their stance appears to be avoid discussion/conflict with the credit card companies (the big guys). Beat up on the customer (the little guy). Lousy customer service from first to last and I'll see them in court before I pay for something they didn't provide.

When renting a car from Budget be aware of what you are signing. I rented a car recently and turned down all insurance options verbally. So I assumed I could initial the rest of the forms agreeing to the contract. When we retuned our car we were slapped with a "supplemental liability insurance." Oh well, I guess verbally turning down all insurance for a rental car does you no good. They will always get you in the end. I will never rent a car from them again.

I rented from a local dealer at a service station. The selection was limited to one car for each category. I reserved online which was easy to navigate and complete. When I picked up the car it took all of about 8 minutes to sign the agreement and get the keys. The reserved car was not available so they upgraded me to the next category. Customer service was professional and business like. The price was fair and the office was convenient.

Budget, Dollar, etc in Orlando International Airport are all the same. Seems a majority of them have lawsuits pending against them for falsely charging running tolls and activating transponders. They tell you transponders are there "for your convenience," which is true for some, but it also lets them charge you since it's apparently automatic and they can claim it activated when you didn't activate.
We have our own SunPass and managed to pay all tolls, but then we get a home and it's over a month later and we see a charge on our credit card bill for $21.25 under "fees and adjustments." Call up Budget and they say we ran toll that was $1.50 and activated transponder that is hooked up to all their windshields. We told them we have our own SunPass and used it for the whole week we were there so how did this $1.50 show up? The SunPass still had money on it so we know it wasn't empty, either both SunPass and Budget are double-charging customers or one is at fault and blaming the other. You call one up and they tell you the other ones charges fees not them. Go through your credit card company and dispute.
The price and car selection might be good at Budget, but whenever you're in a heavy tourist area like Orlando you can expect to be nickel and dimed by the rental car companies from time to time. Actually had this same problem with Dollar Orlando years ago, asked them to send proof and they sent nothing except a bill for $50. Budget didn't send a bill either, we had to call them to find out what the $21.25 was for.

Not only the worst company for car rental, but an horrible customer service. Charged TWICE at Budget - Toronto - Ontario. In October of 2016, I returned a car on date and time of my contract. Went to the Budget counter to pay the total amount of my rental in cash. After paying, I asked the gentleman from Budget if the amount would be waived from my credit card, and he said "YES", and gave me a receipt. After a few days, I noticed the charge on my credit card were not waived and I called customer service and for my surprise, the answer for this terrible mistake was: "You need to wait for 14 BUSINESS days for their analysis."
After almost TWO MONTHS, no answer from Budget, I tried again and used a different type of channel, social media. The answer again was: "You have an opened case with us and allow us 14 more BUSINESS DAYS to check what happened." I lost my mind. Even trying the ombudsman channel, I am still waiting for Mr. James ** to respond me with a solution, the Budget's Executive Resolution Coordinator! I am not talking about some tens of dollars, I am talking about 1900 dollars! One Thousand and Nine hundred Canadian dollars! I have nowhere else to go, so I am starting with social media and looking for a lawsuit. Thanks for the space, ConsumerAffairs.com.

Our arrival by shuttle to the rental centre went (relatively) smoothly. When we got to the Budget center, things went from bad to worse. The lineup was over 30 people long and they only had 4 stations (out of 10) helping customers. It was mid-afternoon, so it wasn't likely they were all out to lunch, but it took almost an hour before it was our turn. Suggestion for improvement: When there is a huge lineup of people waiting to begin their holiday, put a few more people on to serve them.
However, they would upgrade us into a different car. Since it was their error that I didn't get what was promised. I assumed the upgrade would be complimentary. Bad mistake. I found out only later that the upgrade (the favour they were doing for screwing up my reservation in the first place) was at an extra cost of 21 dollars (US) tax per day. Suggestion for improvement: Don't make suggestions that sound like you are doing them a favour when you AREN'T.
The fellow at the counter was in a hurry. With a long line of people waiting for cars he took no time to allow any kind of understanding of what was happening at the rapid rate he demanded. "Press Here, Press Here, Initial Here, Sign here" was most of our conversation. I felt stampeded, coerced and railroaded. I was extremely disappointed with our treatment and with the financial shafting we took.
At first I felt I was overreacting but a couple who we casually met on the trip down and subsequently saw again on the return flight said they had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE with Budget. The car they ordered wasn't available, but they would upgrade them, the rushed experience, the lack of explanation, and all the surprises that came after. They felt they'd been processed like cattle. Both of us found the cost of the car (and we didn't even take the added insurance) was the largest bill we had on our 10-day trip to Arizona. The flights, the food expenses and the cost of 10-nights' accommodation at good hotels were all smaller.I, and I'm sure the other couple will never consider using Budget again if this is their strategy and the way they conduct business.

I rented a car for 7 days. Because of my USAA membership, the young driver fee was waived. I paid it online and the car was pretty cheap then - only around $33 a day. At the counter, the man told me, I have to sign "here" and "here" and have to tell him the reservation number, my name and my USAA membership number. Sounds like a normal process. Then he asked me for my credit card that they can put a hold on it until I return the car. I said "fine" and gave him my credit card. On the day that I returned the car, no one was there. Doesn't make sense for me because I selected the return time. So I filled in the paper work and throw them together with the keys into the mailbox. The tank was fully filled up.
Two weeks later, they charged my $27 bucks for some "smaller" fees - no one told me that after I already paid, I will get those afterwards. Also they charged $300 for an insurance. The funny thing is, at the counter I declined everything. Which means, instead of paying $30 a day, it was more like $70. An offer that I definitely would never sign. I mean, seriously, I rented a car because I was looking for a way to get to SEA from PDX and back. We were 3 people, the $180 was as cheap as the bolt bus (3 people * 2 times a ticket * $30 a ticket). So we thought, okay, if we have to pay for fuel, it's still a good deal because it's way more comfortable and we have a way to get around in SEA. But to pay more than the doubled price, is definitely insane.
After long disputes with the customer service, we still haven't our money back. It was more like, that they were very unfriendly to me, used some rude words as well and said that I signed for that - and that it's legal. It's not! If you let people sign with withholding further costs and under false pretenses - it's still cheating and it's illegal. That man at the counter hasn't told me anything about insurances. Yes, I signed and yes, I haven't checked that form - but he only said I have to sign here, everything else was already set up because I ordered online. By the way, the customer service sounded more like that they knew exactly we I wrote to them. Seems like a default business practice of Budget! I definitely will never use Budget again! Guys, be careful!

We had a terrible experience with Budget. I am so annoyed and unhappy about Budget that I can only mention how bad Budget is when someone asks me about my trip. So we reserved an intermediate vehicle. We have an intermediate vehicle at home and it fits our luggages and the 4 four us comfortably. And I called Budget customer service to inquire what kind of tires are provided on the vehicle. The people in the call center said that the tires would be whatever it needs to be for the weather in the city we rent. So we go to pick up our rentals. There were 4 of us. Two adults and two kids. We have one regular size luggage. One medium size and a hand luggage. The lady tries to up sell us to an SUV for $600 more. Are you kidding me? That's 4 times the price of what we paid. But that's not the problem.
So she processes the rental and takes us out to the vehicle and gives us the smallest intermediate vehicle. Honestly, you saw that there were 4 of us and luggages and there are a lot of other intermediate size vehicles on the lot. We don't get a choice. We told her no to that vehicle and asked for the one next to it as we didn't get a chance to see all our options. This is the only one we noticed as it was right next.
She said, "Sure," and gave us the vehicle. But when we put our things in, it was very tight. It scratched up our luggages and very tight in the front for seating as well. It was snowing and very cold so we didn't want to ask for another vehicle. But I am so pissed about the way we were treated. Then the vehicle had all season tires. I asked for winter tires and I was told the only option was to pay $600 more for an SUV. The day we were in Calgary, the streets were packed with snow and it was snowing and they gave us a vehicle with all season tires.
We then required a booster seat however that location did not have any. So they check the other stores and gave us an address to another location. The address given to us was incorrect. It took us to the middle of nowhere. I then had to google where the location was using my roaming charges. Then we got there. Getting from one Budget to the other Budget location, we had a hard time maneuvering the vehicle. The car was swerving and we were going really slow with the crappy tires we had. At one point, we had to run a red light cause the vehicle would not stop!!!
So we get to this location and we ask them if there is anything we can do about the vehicle. The lady tells me that we can get cars with winter tires for $15/day. I told her that I will take it. She then said then she had none on the lot. No other effort is made to help us. I told her that we can't even drive this vehicle in Calgary. The plan was to go to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. As for the booster seat, the price is just unbelievable at $13/day. We can get a booster seat at Walmart for $20 (regular price) any day and that's what we did. She said they can't do anything. Due to your unreliable vehicle, we had to cancel hotels and plans last minute. We planned this trip for 6 months and all because of your unreliable service and lack of service, we had to change our plans. We were looking forward to this trip. This was our first time in Alberta. It was huge disappointment and costly.
Then another thing we noticed was that the gas tank was not full when we got the vehicle. The screen showed that we had a bit less than 500 km. When we ran out. We then filled the tank and this time, the vehicle showed that we can drive 655 km with the full tank. So I think we got ripped off there. We have to return the vehicle with a full tank but you don't give us a full tank.
At one point, our car was having problems so we went into another Budget and they said "Sorry we can't help you. We are different franchise, please call the location you rented from." We were in Edmonton. The rental location was Calgary. So if I had an issue, I'd have to drive back to Calgary??? This is the first and last time I rent from Budget. We will stick with Avis as we usually do!!! I will also make sure, I spread the word about your service to my friends, family, co-workers and online reviews! I don't think anyone else needs to go through the same issues as us or even more! I normally do not take the time to provide such feedback but this was the crappiest service ever!

We rented a car through Budget for our recent Christmas trip to the Island of Hawaii (Kona Int'l Airport). We booked in June which I highly recommend -- as you approach the holidays, prices skyrocket. Upon picking up our jeep, we were greeted and cared for via a great representative. It was rather quick and out we went. But not for long, unfortunately. At our first right turn, we realized the blinker light was out. Nothing major, so we turned around and they swapped our car out with another Jeep and off we were. Both Jeeps were rather dirty, inside and out. We take exceptional care of our own cars so this was a slight disappointment, fortunately the car wash wasn't too far away. Less than 24 hours later, we soon realized that our replacement Jeep was infested with ants. Hundreds of them. I took the Jeep back and explained that it was infested. The agent this time wasn't quite as friendly.
Apparently they did not properly check-in this Jeep as he claimed we drove 400 miles in the mere 18 or so hours that we had that car. While possible, it was definitely not from our driving as we only went to the grocery story and Costco that day. Aside from that, he swapped us Jeeps once again, this time we were reunited with our first Jeep (blinker fixed) and we were happy. Drop off was quick and painless. Although we had a few glitches, I would certainly rent through Budget in Kona again.

I rented a car for a road trip from 12/26-1/2. When I arrived in Denver to pick up the car at the airport, the representative insisted that I upgrade to an AWD/4WD vehicle since Colorado had traction laws that go into effect during the winter that require either chains which they do not allow on their cars, or an AWD/4WD vehicle. I had prepaid, but I agreed to upgrade for an additional $220 since the representative essentially told me I needed to if I were to be driving through the mountains.
I was given the car and realized a couple of days later that the car was not an AWD/4WD vehicle. I called Budget to see if they could swap out for a new car in Las Vegas and they refused. One customer service rep told me I needed to call Avis and that they could transfer their contract to Budget. This was wildly inaccurate and Avis shut me down. Budget also told me that I would be charged $200 for dropping off this car in Las Vegas instead of Denver. I argued that the only reason I had upgraded in the first place was because their rep told me I needed an AWD/4WD vehicle and then they gave me a car that was not either of those things. No one was willing to help me because apparently "They can not guarantee anything and as long as you sign their contract, you agree to whatever they want to throw in there". This is ridiculous.
Budget lied to me, screwed me over by charging me for an upgrade that wasn't given to me and then offered absolutely no help in getting me an AWD/4WD vehicle that was promised to me. Also when I finally got the receipt, it was the wrong car listed, wrong mileage, wrong rental dates, and wrong everything. Brownsville, TX. 12/25/16. Reserved an economy car on 11/14/16 online through USAA Explore service. Arrived at Brownsville airport to discover the business was closed for the holiday. Left us stranded until a family member could leave the rest of our family in Texas to come pick us up. Every other rental agency was open, mind you, but without any available rentals. We spoke with the national Budget customer service line and, although sympathetic, they could offer us no solution because of the holiday. We asked if they could contact any manager or employee of the local office to find a solution and they would not. We weren't getting the car that day, period.
In any case, we needed the car for the rest of our trip, so we then made a new reservation for the following day with another agent at Budget's call center (I cancelled our Dec. 25th reservation out of frustration after being shut down by the first service agent) and the next morning, I called the local office. She practically anticipated my call and within seconds accused me of ignoring their previous voicemails earlier in the month to request that we make alternative arrangements. I asked her for the dates and times of the supposed calls and told her I'd call back after checking my phone records and voicemails. When I called back explaining I had no record of any calls or voicemails from that number or any unknown numbers from that area code, she then claimed she wasn't able to get through to the number they had on file whatsoever, which we then confirmed to be correct.
So the story had changed dramatically and I understood I was being lied to. After that, I decided I couldn't win this one and made arrangements to pick up our car later that afternoon. When I arrived, everything went smoothly, though I certainly wasn't in good spirits and the attendant expressed no sympathy. Car was fine, exactly as expected. Honestly have never experienced worse service but did appreciate the great gas mileage. I will never use Budget again and will tell anyone who will listen about my experience, starting here.

I recently reserved a minivan from this Budget location on 11/24/16 for pickup on 12/9/15 at 8 a.m. Me, my mom, daughter, sister and my grandkids were making the drive to Nashville for my niece's wedding that my granddaughters were in. When I arrived at the location at 8 a.m. on 12/9/16 to pick up the mini van, I was told that they did not have one. I asked the gentleman at the counter why they didn't have it and he responded with a shrug. He asked me if I just reserved it the night before?? I said, "No, I reserved at least 10 days ago, on 11/24." I then said, "What am I supposed to do? I have to get my family to Nashville by 3:00 p.m." Mar, the attendant, proceeds to tell me, "Don't be getting no attitude. An attitude will get you nowhere here!" I ended up having to take a 15-passenger van because I HAD to have my family in Nashville by 3 p.m.; which I have NEVER driven one.
The attendant then, with attitude takes me out to do the "walk around" on the bus/van that I would be driving. He told me to start it up, which I did, and I mentioned that the tire pressure light was on and without even checking he said, "It is supposed to be that way due to the cold weather." Halfway through the trip I stopped at a truck stop and a total stranger checked the tires and said they had far less than HALF the air they should have in them and aired up the tires for me. Having to drive this van/bus made for an awful and stressful trip. It was very hard for my mother to enter and exit the van, which we had to do a lot. The seats were extremely uncomfortable for everyone and I was a nervous wreck every time I had to park the van or back up, and basically stressed every time I had to drive it. When We finally got to Nashville I called the Budget district manager and all he said was, "I'm sorry we were not able to locate a minivan for you."
Really??? I reserved it 2 weeks earlier. Someone just DID NOT do their job. I asked if they were going to do anything to make up for their screw up and said they would make the difference in gas, and they did, HA HA! They credited me a big whopping $0.48!!! I honestly think that for all the stress and hassle they put me and my family through, AND for the rudeness of the counter attendant at Sears Budget/AVIS counter, they should have refunded my rental altogether or gave me a free week's rental or something. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT RENT FROM THIS BUDGET LOCATION! I was treated very wrong by the person there.

Policy, policy, policy to the absurd! I prepaid for a car rental from Budget from Christmas Day until January 2 at Ohare in Chicago. I drove the car to Traverse City, MI on Christmas Day. I then wanted to return the car on 12/26 in TC as my son decided he could take us back to Chicago. Since I had prepaid a contract, there would be no refund for an early drop off. Oh, and there would be a $300 charge to drop the car off in Traverse City. Gotta love the car rental business!

The tellers where I rented were rude and tried to provide me with a car with an indicator light for low tire pressure on. When I let them know about this issue they told me they were sure it was fine and that it was likely an indicator issue not a low tire pressure issue. After determining that they were just guessing at that, I asked for a car without any indicator lights on since I am paying to rent a functioning car. After much attitude I was provided with one. A few weeks later I get my second toll charge on my credit card so I call to confirm the charges and figure out how much more there will be as this was a work rental and I had already submitted my forms for reimbursement.
The first gentleman at customer service told me I had not been charged for tolls though I have charges from Budget Rent a Car on my credit card. He then hung up on me. The second gentleman again told me there were not charges on my card from Budget though I very clearly have charges from Budget on my credit card. I insisted on speaking with a manager who was able to look up and confirm the toll charges. Why other representatives were not able to do so is beyond me. Apparently the original rental tellers entered my first name as my last name and my last name as my first name, flummoxing the customer service folks until the manager.
Again, yet another problem with Budget services. Then the manager I was speaking with kept telling me everyone would be 'severely reprimanded'. I was so thrown off by her repeated use of that phrase, issues should be addressed but not necessarily through severely reprimanding employees. I am unclear on whether or not this was lip service for what they had deemed an 'angry customer' or whether this is how Budget treats company issues and employees. Either way I've seen enough to never use budget again and to recommend strongly against them for anyone asking. Horrible, horrible experience from beginning to end in so many ways. Stay away from Budget.

We found this out in NY when a meter maid point it out and wanted to give us a ticket. The wiper blades are worn to the metal. It rained on the way back to Florida we had to parked the car because we could not see out the wind screen. We expected to rent a car that is road worthy and this was not. We arrived in Orlando on November 4th after more than 12 hours flying with a baby. My husband went to pick up the car and the attendant asked if he wanted insurance. My husband said that he didn't want any other expense and the attendant told him that he should get. So, my husband asked a simple one and the man showed him that it was just 34 dollars. So my husband signed, but when we returned the car, on November 10th, it was 34 dollars PER DAY, which means that we spent MORE in insurance than in the rental price! The attendant was speaking in Spanish and maybe he got mistaken.
I called Budget to complain about it, but they didn't care. They said that once my husband signed the paper, there was nothing to do. But before signing the paper my husband and the attendant had a VERBAL AGREEMENT, and the attendant didn't write what he said! My husband was really tired and didn't understand that on the paper was not written what the attendant said. I am REALLY disappointed because I always use AVIS that is the owner of Budget, but now I cannot trust both of them anymore! I would really appreciate to get my money back! The total amount was USD 294,90.

As frustrating as it is to pay for Budget's error. I have the added problem of them not taking the time to listen and understand what I'm saying... All I get (9 responses) is, "we apologise and we are sorry for your misunderstanding" followed by a "it's a matter for you to take up with your bank... or the exchange rate is the same regardless if you use your credit card or cash"..."or you chose to use your credit card therefore it has nothing to do with Budget..."

We recently rented a car at the airport in Bloomington-Normal IL. We picked the car up at 6:55 p.m. When we went out to the lot and transferred some stuff to the Volkswagen Passat, we noticed the low tire light was on. We immediately found a parking place and returned to the desk to find the representative had already left. I had forgotten my cell phone but we called the number on the contract when we got to where our phone was. I explained the situation to the lady and she said she would have to send out roadside service. Since technically the car was not service ready when we picked it up, I never expected to be charged for someone fixing their lack of service. When the guy showed up, he measured the air in the tires. Two of them were over 35 pounds of air, the other two were over 45 pounds, and the spare had over 55 pounds. With all the tires over-inflated, this car was a hazard on the highway.
The guy from the road service asked who we rented it from and I told him Budget. His comment was "You get what you pay for." He let the air out of 4 of the tires and the spare. We spent the week on vacation wondering if the tires were low. When we returned the car to the Avis/Budget counter at the airport, I explained how unhappy we were with the car and rental experience. He was very apologetic. Imagine my surprise when we got the bill for the entire service call. When I called Budget, the individual was rude and very caustic. He said that because we had decline road service, we would have to pay for it. I told him we expected the car to be in top service when we rented it. Guess that is not an expectation Budget lives up to.

When I got there, they did not have the car available, but did not tell me they were switching the car OR charging me for an upgrade. In addition, they added collision insurance. They did not have the first two cars they assigned to me, and finally found me a car. No mention was made to me of the additional charges, and the service agent even told me I was personally liable for any damage to the car as I was leaving. When I received my credit card statement a month later, I found an additional charge for the upgrades and the insurance.
After three complaints to Budget Rental's consumer service department, they credited the upgrade charge and half of the insurance charge. Their rationale was that I benefited from the insurance. That has nothing to do with the point - my reservation online stated no insurance, and a specific car rate. Saying I benefited has nothing to do with the authorization of the charges. I have now sent a complaint to the Consumer Protection Agency of the Washington Attorney General's Office. How many people have to go through this before someone acts?

I finally took notice when the gas gauge moved to 3/4 after driving 24.9 miles. During my rental period I filled up the tank and I drove 89.1 miles before the Gauge moved to 3/4. A car which is rated 27/36 MPG was far from having a full tank of gas when I drove off. I don't think it was an oversight on the part of Budget Car Rental. None of the negative experiences on this page even compare to what I have been through and am still going through with Budget Rent a Car. 4 days ago I went outside to get into my rental car and it was dead. I could not get into the car. Since I am a corporate member who has used Budget nearly every week for the past 2 years I was not concerned. Surely they would take care of me. WRONG. The nightmare began; and I am not exaggerating. I have never been treated so badly in my life. After calling Budget probably 30 times, transferred around, hung up on, two auto service people showing up who could not take care of the car for one reason another, the car was finally retrieved by Budget on Friday night. I called again today (Sunday) because I have not received an email that the rental had been closed out.
After again being on hold, speaking to customer service people who barely speak English in India and Mexico, transferred twice and hung up on; I finally learned that Budget holds the rental open (yes as if I still have the car) until they decide if I am responsible. Which I clearly am not. I called my credit card and cancelled the card to prevent any future charges by Budget. I will dispute whatever they have charged me so far. There is no such thing as Customer Service people at Budget. I was told by the last person I spoke to on the phone that the rental counter where they took the car, 60 miles away from where I rented the car, needs to "close out" contract. But that they (Customer Service) could not talk to the counter.
When I call the counter, no one answers. I am still without a car. The snotty customer service manager used that against me saying "well you said you didn't want a car". YES I said that because to get the replacement car I was told that I would have to go to Savannah where they were towing the old car; again 60 miles away, at 9 PM on Friday night. Plus, being that I was in the middle of a nightmare, my main focus was on getting them to get the car; thinking that I would deal with getting another car once this problem was resolved. But instead the rudeness and snottiness continues and the problem goes on. No one at Budget cares to take care of anything. They don't care about anything. When I arrived to pick up my car (in November 2016) I was told that there were none available, at all, of the type I'd reserved and paid for. I felt put on the spot to upgrade to another, more expensive, larger car or...nothing. I needed to get to my destination and so chose the larger car. I resent being put on the spot to pay for a more expensive car that cost me more to drive than the more economical car that I'd paid for initially several months in advance. (What is the purpose of paying for a rental car and having my credit card debited months in advance and then not get what I've paid for?) So far I have received minimal satisfaction in talking to Customer Service about this (oh, they dropped $104 USD from my additional bill of over $500 but, in my mind, I was given a choice of no car or take an Overcharge to a rental I didn't want and had not reserved).
I'd seen the car I was given on their website and didn't want it as it was too expensive to rent and cost more in gas mileage. This 'upgrade' cost me at least $300 USD in excess gas! This to me is a classic Bait and Switch to get more money out of me. The Customer Service Representative in Corporate told me on the phone that when she looked up the type of car I wanted to rent the LA Airport office (where I was picking up my rental) had over 200 of them available that day! I needed to rent a rental car for Thanksgiving trip home to see elderly parents in GA and was told when I called Budget's 1-800 number, that as long as I prepaid for the rental online with my debit card there would only be an additional $100 debit card hold at time of rental pickup. Additionally I was told when I picked up the rental a credit check would be run but the outcome of the credit check would not affect my ability to rent the car.
The answers to these questions were important and I was asking them in advance knowing that after having recently gotten divorce my credit is not so good and I have no credit cards in my name at the moment. We could not return the vehicle since we were on our way across the island and it was after 5 PM. The rear door rattled so much that I stopped & checked twice to make sure it would not open. Budget representatives have stated the following: "When you rent a vehicle outside of the US & Canada, you can EXPECT to rent an OLDER vehicle and that more than likely has been REPAIRED! As long as it got you from point A to B, you're good!" Now that's a statement worthy of a company motto! They have compensated to the tune of $30 USD! OH BOY!!!

Due to snow in Denver, my 5:35 PM departure did not leave until 7. So I arrived at Dulles at midnight rather than 11 PM eastern. When I got to the Budget counter the woman said "you were supposed to pick up your car yesterday." I replied "if you mean 30 minutes ago", I said "you are correct." I explained my flight ran late - full stop for a rhetorical question - how often does that happen?
She told me that because I was "a day late" that my $52 rate for the day could not be honored but that I could rent the same car for $400. Really? She was nice and sympathetic about it, but she said she could not over-ride the system. Because I needed a car and where else could I go at that point, I called the Budget customer service line and 90 minutes later, they agreed to honor the $52 rate.
How is that for some great system. I spoke with the Budget President's office and they too apologized, but acknowledged that what happened was how their system is programmed. Even if it produced unfair results like this. I suggested that since algorithms now exist whereby cars can drive themselves, that this type of situation could probably be programmed around. Not sure he understood that. Much better companies to rent from. Stay away!

Very disappointed. I placed a hold on a Ford Taurus for Thanksgiving week, six weeks in advance. Budget sold all the Ford Tauruses without contacting me - even though it says "contact customer if anything changes." I contacted them one week before I was supposed to pick up the car and they told me they sold all of them. It was very stressful, it put me and my family in such a horrible situation.
We were counting on that car to drive us half way across the country and they didn't think it was important to let us know that we could no longer have the car. I WILL NEVER use this company again. I have used it previously for many rentals but I'm so dissatisfied, I will tell anyone and everyone I know of this experience. It put us in such a bind. Very bad communication, very bad customer service.

Had to take my complaint a lot higher. Just to get a $182 refund on a car I never touched! This place is a joke. More than 24 hours later I happened to look at my email to find that they sent an email informing me that the truck was not available. I checked online again and was saw there were still trucks showing on lots in Raleigh. After several phone calls and waiting for the inventory manager to call, we were told there were no trucks. I could still go online and order trucks. The manager did not seem concerned that this was a breach of a contract and that the company was falsifying information online by showing there were still trucks available. Apparently they have no trucks for rent so just don't even try.

I was about to have a wonderful vacation with my family when I came upon a huge line at the Budget Car rental in Orlando Florida. I was waiting patiently with my kids who were tired and wanted to go to bed. I was waiting for about an hour before I got to the counter for what I taught would have been get your keys and go deal. I was surprised at how fast everything changed. Apparently they had no car for the rate that we had booked and tried to sell us an upgrade with insurance which we declined. After waiting for almost 2 hours in total we finally go to get the car. We were given wrong directions and went up and down the elevator three times. I headed out to the car and was on our dream vacation when 24 hours later we had a flat tire and we changed it to the spare and went to the hotel. We proceeded to call the Budget at the airport and was told to call the roadside assistance which we did.
The roadside assistance told us to call the airport for another car. We were going back on forth for about 2 hours when finally late at night they ask that we return the car back to the airport. Before calling the airport we took it to a mechanic who said that the tire was defective at the side wall yet when we took it to back they said since we did not pay for the additional insurance we would have to pay for brand new tire. The other car I must admit was good and was equip with a EZ pass but we had no knowledge of it until we went thru the first terminal to pay with cash as we always do and she told us we had already paid because we had the pass. We never intended to have Budget pay for our toll expenses. There is a saying "If it's good to be true, it probably is". Don't be fooled. This was a horrible experience all the way around. If you got time and money to waste go rent a car from the Budget in Orlando, Florida.

I will never rent a car from Budget again. My family and I went on vacation to Orlando Florida. I booked and prepaid the rental car a month in advance ($229 for 6 days). From the moment we arrived at the counter to get the car there were problems. First we waited at least 45 minutes to be waited on. Granted, there were other customers, but with at least 8-9 windows open, it should not have taken that long to be taken care of. When we FINALLY get to the desk we are greeted by a woman who could barely speak or understand English well. Everything she said needed to be repeated numerous times, and vice versa. I gave her all my paperwork from the booking site I had used. I advised her I wanted BARE MINIMUM insurance. Liability was $15/day, and personal injury was I believe $9/day.
OK, so after going back and forth 100xs trying to understand each other, she told us to go across the street to garage to get car. Mind you, our flight got in at 5 pm, and it's after 7 pm at this point. We go across the street to find the parking spot assigned to us. There is no car in the spot. We go to the counter in the garage to inquire what to do now. The woman looks confused as to why there is no car in the spot. She speaks to a couple people, calls us to the desk and tells us to have a seat, they need to "find" us a car. Isn't that what a reservation is for? So the car is there, waiting for us? 1/2 an hour later they finally "find" a car for us. We leave. It is now around 8 pm. The next morning I wake up, realize they had taken another $377 from my account. I freak out and call Budget. I can't get a human being. First I'm given to the front desk and get the answering machine. I leave a message. Then I call back again and try the manager's extension.
I get another machine and leave a message. I call my bank, explain the issue. They replace the money in my acct and tell me to call back if it happens again. I never hear from Budget. No one returns my calls. So now we are back from vacation. They take the $377 out again, over drafting my checking acct. I call my bank, file a formal dispute, then call Budget AGAIN. I actually am able to get a human. They tell me the $377 is for insurance. Insurance I specifically said I wanted the bare minimum of. After arguing with him for a couple minutes and realizing I was going to get absolutely nowhere, I gave up. Almost $400 in insurance??! All toll, I spent over $600 on a compact car for 6 days. Unacceptable. Filing a formal complaint and NEVER using Budget again. From beginning to end it was a nightmare.

After having problems with the Budget rental app I went to the counter to do the rental. The counter person offered me a walking "special" that included free road assistance and a cheaper insurance fee for the time of rental and that I could return the car earlier if I needed to. When all was set and done I notice that all those fees were added to the bill. (The bill was way high of I was expecting). I went back to questions her about it and she said that it was free but clearly it wasn't. When I decided to cancel she called the manager and said that I chose the road assistance (clearly a lie).
I was told that if I cancel they'll put a note on my file and I'll never be able to rent from them again so I went home. Next day I decided that I wasn't going to keep the car. The lady was so rude. She never explained to me that if I cancel the fee will double the price of what paid to a whopping $360.00. She made the cancellation and told me "Here, now call customer service. At this point I don't care what you do." I left furious. Clearly nowhere in the contract or the website says how much of the cancellation fee. Please don't rent from them.

I have rented one way rental Midway (Chicago) to Little Rock Airport (LIT) on 29 Oct. Pickup at 7.15 PM and return on Oct 30, 7.15PM. I opted prepay during the rental and paid 161$ prior to renting the vehicle pickup. On Oct 29th I went to the counter at Midway airport around 7PM. Customer care handed out the paperwork and told to take the elevator and car location. I waited for 15 - 20 minutes for wife as she went to rest room and went to the car to pick up the vehicle. I was travelling with 4 bags (50 lbs) and 4 carry-on bags. Around 8PM I picked up the vehicle.
On Oct 30th around 7.30PM I went to Little Rock (LIT) Airport to return the vehicle. I returned the vehicle and received the bill. I released that they charged me 158$ extra. I went to rental counter to get clarification of the bill received. Alina (customer care) said the extra 158$ for extra 40 min time. I told her that I picked the car around 8PM on Oct 29th at Midway. She said I can waive the extra day charges (138$) but cannot waive the extra day liability insurance. She asked me to write a note about the incident along with my phone number so that her manager (Keith) would call you and address the issue. I have rented one more vehicle from Enterprise from Oct 30, 9PM to Oct 31 9PM.
On Oct 31st I don’t receive any call from manager(Keith). I called the several times. Nobody picked the phone and went to airport to return the vehicle I rented at Enterprise. After returning I went to Budget and met customer care (Donald). I explained my situation to him and said that I was expecting call from manager (Keith) today but nobody called me. He said manager (Keith) is off today. Customer care (Donald) asked to write note about incident along with phone number said “Manager (Keith) will call you.”
On Nov 1st, I was expecting call from manager (Keith). I waited until afternoon and call them several times. Finally I got chance to speak with manager (Keith). I tried to explain my situation and he did not have patience to hear what I am saying. Finally, he said “I cannot help. You need to contact the Midway Airport.” place where I rented and given me the phone number. I called the phone number provide by manager (Keith). It was corporate phone number. I tried to explain my situation to them. They said to contact back the place where I returned the vehicle and said that it is past rental, “We cannot help you.”
On Nov 2, I tried to reach the customer care at Budget. No response from them. I emailed to manager (Keith) about the incident. He responded "I also spoke with Alana and she said she gave you the information to speak with the location in Chicago. She is ambivalent about any other conversation. I am so sorry but at this time I cannot take anything off of your rental." and responded to him to provide phone number at contact manager at Midway Airport. No response back from manager (Keith).
From Nov 2 - Nov 6, I tried to contact the manager at Chicago Airport but no luck. On Nov 7th, I went to Budget at LIT Airport. Finally I met manager (Keith) along with customer care (Alina). They finally said “We cannot help in this incident.” I tried hard to convenience them. They are not ready to listen what I speak. The extra charges of 158$ for 40 min late. (Actually I thought of returning 1 hour before but on the way to airport there was row car accident - 5 cars involved - I was struck in that traffic jam). Total they charged me 319.13$ for 1 day 40 min. I might have kept the vehicle one more extra day instead of returning vehicle to Budget renting another vehicle from Enterprise for the same period I was billed twice. I did not have any other words to speak to Budget customer care after this worst experience.

I rented a car in Milan, Galleria delle Carrozze, for a time period of 4 days. When arrived to take the car, this latter has been given to me in a very ruined body situation (many signs of previous accidents) and it was parked (with hazard lights on) in the middle of a 3-lanes road in front of the railway station, during the very peak on Fridays after work traffic in Milan. Despite such situation, the agent forced me in making the car check in the very position where the car was, without light and with cars driving fast close to me, endangering even my personal safety.
Due to such situation, during the car check I could not identify, among the many others, a small dent, visible only backlight (light that was absent in the check-in place), which I could identify only upon my return home few minutes later. Point to remark, I had not subscribed additional insurances given the very safe trip I was undertaking.
When checking-out on the same agency where I rented the car, they questioned me about aforementioned dent (clearly related to pre-rental damages), charging EUR 288,74 (VAT excluded) for the damage and EUR 65,00 (VAT excluded) for the administrative service, all accompanied by the very rude behavior of the attending personnel. Strongly not recommended car rental company, to avoid.

VERY SHADY! When renting a car, I expect the agents to try and upsell me but not lie. Wish I would have checked these reviews before picking up my car. I ended up getting additional charges on my bill just like others. Verbally I advised the agent that I didn't want additional coverage. We then moved to an electronic agreement that she provided little detail on and started advising me on how to answer the questions. There was a long line of people waiting so I went along not wanting to delay other travelers & assuming the agent was moving forward with what we discussed. There were 2 screens for what I now know where the optional additional coverages she stated one was optional so decline and one was required so accept. Conveniently the “required” coverage included 2 items both adding around $10/day.
When she provided me my total at the end it was more than I anticipated but didn’t calculate how much over until I was at my final destination. I called the local branch and no one was available so I was transferred to corporate customer service who said they noted my file with the issues but the local office would need to address it. He continued to assure me my file was noted and I should consult the local office. I called the local office a few more times but was unable to reach anyone and continued to be transferred to corporate. At that time I was done wasting my vacation on the phone.
I then addressed the issue when I returned the rental and they stated they were unable to find the notes from the corporate customer service rep. My original counter representative was working again and assured me she had worked there for 12 years and would never make a statement like I claim she did (after reading reviews I’m more confident than ever that she did make the statement). After discussing a few minutes longer, I gave up and let them know I would provide others with reviews of the service. When renting your car please be aware of what the total should be and if there are any unexpected charges address ASAP regardless of the line waiting behind you. I will never rent with Budget again and I hope this will help someone not make the mistake I did.

I never do reviews but my family had a bad experience with Budget. We went with Budget because we got a really great deal. We flew into Orlando, Florida and went to the car rental desk. We arrived late, at 11:30 pm and were extremely tired. We were grateful that Budget had promised our car to be at the correct terminal when we arrived. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes to get up to the counter and we were the next in line. When we got up to the counter, we encountered an extremely rude woman. She told us that they didn't have our van at this terminal but we would have to walk to the other terminal. The woman was asking questions, and I was answering the questions because I usually get these things all taken care of. (The reservations were in my husband's name).
The woman put her hand up to me and got really rude and said, "You can't answer these questions. The reservation is NOT in your name!!" To which she would ask, my husband would look at me and repeat the answers I gave him. She gave us several threats about what would happen if we did not pay for their insurance and if we did not do their gas plan. We finally got through with this, only to have to walk all the way to the other terminal. When we arrived at the other terminal, there was no Budget slot for the location the woman gave us. We spent maybe 15 minutes wandering around the parking lot before a man, from Budget, came up to us asking if we need any help. We told him where our van was supposed to be and he shook his head and said, "Budget doesn't even have that car space. They do this all the time."
He stopped in front of a random van and told us we could take that. We weren't sure if this would cause any problems but we just wanted to get out of there, so we got in. We had to stop past a last checkpoint where the man updated our new van rental and he again said, "Oh Man, they do this all the time." We were finally on our way. However, the cheaper rate was not worth all the hassle we had to go through. I'm sure this is an issue with this particular location but I will not take that chance again.

We rented a stick shift from Budget. They didn't have an automatic available. We had the car for an hour and then scuffed the tire so brought it back thinking us driving over there was not safe. They charged us for the next day's rental and repair for the tire.
Then they charged us $300 for breach of contract! I was the only one on the contract so my husband should not have been driving so having a breach of contract fine is reasonable but $300! Then we requested a lowered fee but all we got back was "oh no they breached the contract so we must charge a fee." Well duh! We were asking for a little good customer service here and maybe lowering the fee instead of only applying any fee that you could possibly think of. Really poor service here. But a recent "deal" that my company secured with Budget enticed me to use them on this trip. I prepaid to save a few $$$ and was given a confirmation. Thanks to United Airlines I did not arrive in Pierre until 24 hours later. I called the budget location in Pierre to confirm that the car would still be available and at the same price. I was assured that was case.
Lo and behold, on arrival it took 45 minutes for the representative to even check out my car. Because of the prepayment it would not allow the local agent to check out the car, and when she finally finagled the system, I owed another $81.49. That's right, one day less and the daily cost of the car went up $25.00/day. Had I known this I would have cancelled my reservation with Budget and confirmed with another company. Things have happened on occasion that I never took into consideration but it's too much now. In the past, there have been times that they've "claimed" I didn't fill the car back up when returning so they charged my card... again. I KNOW for a fact I filled the car up each and every time because there's a gas station right across the street that I stop at in order to do so. Even if there was a time that they felt it was COMPLETELY full (past F), it still doesn't take $30 to fill up a tank from F to over F. I ALWAYS make a reservation, ALWAYS. But I've gone to pick up cars and they tell me they don't have any. They say that that budget.com overbooks them. But I don't understand this because don't they know their own inventory???!!!
This last time, this past weekend, I went to pick up a rental, and again, the reservation of my rental was unavailable. I would've had to go to the airport in order to switch out the cars but that wasn't possible since I was on a time restraint. But I was told I'd be given a discount since it wasn't what I reserved. So, I drop the car off, they give me a receipt with a sorry $7.00 discount for my inconvenience. But I wake up this morning to a totally different receipt in my email to see that they removed the discount... after I left the store. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN AND I ADVISE EVERYONE ELSE TO GO SOMEONE ELSE AS WELL!!!

Being that I was in need but this was a surprise to me I decided not to get the rental. Bipin then instructed customer service since I did it online. I was highly irritated but did just that. When I called customer service and explained the first girl I talked to put me on hold and I assume transferred me to another rep. The new rep got on the phone and asked me how can he help me. At this point I am irate I have to give all my information and repeat myself to someone else.
I asked to speak to a manager he refused to let me speak to a manager before verifying who I was, I hung up and tried it again after taking a second to breath. I then spoke with a manager who cancelled the reservation and submitted my refund request. You will have a new review if my refund doesn't arrive as soon as possible because it took them seconds to remove it from my card.

Our flight into Orlando was changed to Tampa due to Hurricane Matthew. I needed to adjust the car rental reservation. Originally it was $240 for 7 days. We couldn't fly out of Tampa and dropped the car off in Orlando. We were charged $1353.21 for 4 days. Terrible customer service. State of emergency conditions in Florida!

My grandmother has spent five months calling Budget over and over again to get them to put her last payment on her credit card. She also did this the day we returned the mini van we rented. Needless to say, they kept telling her that they would bill her credit card, and yet she received a COLLECTION NOTICE in the mail from them!! Her credit card company had no record of them ever even attempting to bill it on her card and it took a nasty phone call from her for them to FINALLY do their job. This was our major issue, but the employees each gave us different info upon renting our car even different amounts we were supposed to pay!! Enterprise ONLY for us from now on!! I have never had such horrible service in my life. DO NOT USE BUDGET ALCOA TN!!!

After reading reviews of Budget Avis customers I have the impression that it is this company's practice to take advantage of the pre-authorization on credit cards to serve themselves as they please from customers accounts. My husband and I had rented a car for two weeks at the Bilbao Spain airport through an online travel agency, and were charged 50% more than the initial price for those two weeks when we returned the car one day early!
While it is specified in the Terms of Sale that extra days are charged at Pay-at-Location prices, which is reasonable, there is no mention of any penalty for returning a car before the term of the rental period. A clause stating that there can be no refund for days not used is twisted by Budget Avis in order to justify an exorbitant charge for one day not used. In this way Budget Avis can make money from two different customers on the same car. Because of the credit card preauthorization and the fact that this car rental agency has no principles, the customer is trapped.

We were in Vegas from Oct 4th to Oct 7th and got a good deal via Expedia on a 2016 Hyundai Elantra from Budget Rent a Car at the Airport. At first, we were pressed by the Budget Counter to get the extra insurance even though we have already bought it via Expedia. All our luggage was stolen on the day of departure (Oct 7th between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM) from a locked trunk with no external damage whatsoever.
After further review of this case, we came to the conclusion that a new possible suspect could be part of the Budget Rental Team from the Airport for the following reasons: 1. When we returned the car and found no luggage there was no comment or any sense of compassion from the staff. We did not hear a word from them. It was the Southwest Rep that advised as to contact the police.
2. They had an extra key for the car and all their rentals are tracked via GPS. Since this happened around lunch time and they knew where the car was at any time, it was a no brainer. 3. We did not see any signs of a forced entry or damage done to the car. 4. They knew our schedule when the return date/time was and they did see our luggage when we checked in. Should a pattern of this kind of event been reported before it surely should raise a red flag.

I picked up my reserved vehicle at the Budget Rent-A-Car counter at the Phoenix, AZ airport. As can be expected, the attendant at the counter inquired if I needed any of the various "add ons" that Budget had to offer. These included insurance policies. I said no to all. I had to assume he knew that I did not want or need any additional policies or add ons when I said "no". As paperwork is put in front of me, I am assuming that it is what I have agreed to. In other words, I did not need any of the additional money making items he was offering me. I get back home and see that I have been tagged with an additional $163.69 charge AFTER I returned the vehicle. Discussing my objections with the Budget Customer dis-Service, they are saying I signed a document requesting additional insurance.
Did that attendant that I worked with at the Phoenix Airport counter get commission for any add-ons he generates? I find this very deceptive and under handed. All this happening after I had already filled out a customer questionnaire online from Budget that I was extremely pleased with their service. I was up until this point. I am a realtor and a member of the National Association of Realtors. I used Budget as this is a recommended company by the NAR. I will be contacting the NAR and tell them of my dissatisfaction as well, and recommend they discontinue their association with Budget. In the future, I will use any other rental company other than Budget.

1st time renting with Budget and will be the last time. The roadside assistance people told me to unlock the door was free. Budget went into my bank account without notice for this charge and took $60.00 out my account without notifying me. The only way I found out is because my bank said "well they also went into your account on another day after I called about another charge they accessed." Budget also charged me $87.00 for a fix a flat plug in the tire. You can buy a new tire for about that amount. I could have bought fix a flat for $10.00. Putting fix a flat in the tire would make the warranty non and void since there are sensors in the tire. I wonder if they let the warranty people know that they are doing these types of repairs to their cars. I think I will keep renting my car from ENTERPRISE.

I rented a car for 2 days. The car was smelly, full of flies, dirty, and out of washer fluid. I had to drive the car both days in the rain with the windows down because there were so many flies in the car. I called customer service while I had the car to complain. I got told to take the car back. But the time I was free to take the car back was later than the close time. So I was not able to get another car. I was also in a hurry when I picked the car up. After several calls to customer service I gave up. When I dropped the car back off I was asked how it was and I told them that there was flies in the car, it was dirty, smelled, and out of washer fluid. I was told "thanks, if you don't need a receipt you are all set". Again I call customer service and get NOWHERE.
I should NOT have to pay for this rental car. A refund of 35% is NOT enough to cover all the issues I faced this the car. I am so angry that a company conducted business with a rental car so poorly. I have called and called over and over. No one plans to help me. So this is a huge issue. I will be contacting a lawyer to fix this matter as it should not have happened in the first place.

If possible I would give Budget Rental Car a negative star rating. I contacted Car Rental 8 online weeks prior to the rental date - Labor Day Weekend. Car Rental 8 indicated that the rental would go through Budget and provided me with a booking and reservation number. My credit card was charged and I was then provided a voucher to bring to the Budget Rental Counter upon arrival. I called to confirm the reservation for the convertible the day prior to picking up the car. I live in the southern part of Ohio and was traveling in a group of four other vehicles to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky was on our way to Tennessee and was a scheduled stop for our group so dropping me off to get the vehicle was not an inconvenience to the group as a whole. I arrived at the Budget counter at 8:40 a.m. I told the remainder of the group that I would meet them at the exit near the airport as they didn't need to go into the rental car lot and wait. A rep from Budget took the reservation voucher and after about 15 minutes told me that they did not have a convertible to rent to me.
I told him that I had a reservation that was made weeks ago and that I called yesterday morning to confirm. He again stated he didn't have a convertible to rent but that I could have a hard top mustang. This was not acceptable. The whole purpose of me renting a car was to have a convertible. He said that the convertible that they were going to rent to me was conveniently totaled that morning but that another one was due back at 2:00 p.m. I told him I could not wait that long as I had others waiting for me. He said there was nothing that he could do.
I then asked him if he could call other Budget rental car location to find a convertible. He said he would email them and that I would have to wait for them to respond via email. I waited an HOUR and then asked if he could call not email. The Budget rep disappeared for approximately 45 minutes. In fact, another Budget employee came in asking where the rep was. Needless to say I told my travel group to go ahead without me. The Budget Rep finally reappeared and said he found a convertible but that it was in Louisville.
I thought he was having someone drive the car to Cincinnati but then he told me I had to go pick it up 93 miles one way out of my way! The rep stated he would give me a rental car free of charge and free gas to go to Louisville. How generous of him to do that when I have already waited an hour and a half at this point and didn't get to travel with my group!
The Budget rep failed to tell me that there were 3 Budget locations in Louisville. I called the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Budget desk to obtain directions to the correct location that I was to pick up the convertible. I called and the phone rang for about 20 times and no answer. Finally the second attempt someone picked up the phone and informed me that the car was at the Louisville airport location. Upon arriving at Louisville airport to pick up the convertible, I had to wait in a line that took approximately 45 minutes. I did get the convertible that I reserved and was on my way FINALLY almost 3 hours later.
During my stay in Gatlinburg there was heavy traffic and the brakes on the vehicle squeaked very loud. I was stopped at a stop light and a Pigeon Forge police car was behind me. When the light turned green, I proceeded to my route and the police car behind me turned on his lights. I pulled over and the police officer told me that the vehicle had expired tags!!! I was totally humiliated and told the officer that the car was a rental.
I provided him with the rental car contract and paperwork and thankfully he gave me a warning and NOT a ticket! I have never experienced such incompetence with a rental car company ever. I rental convertibles every Labor Day and have never had issues like I have with Budget. I had to drive back to Cincinnati the next day hoping that I didn't get pulled over for driving with expired tags!
Upon returning the vehicle in Cincinnati, I informed a different Budget Car rep of my ordeal. She apologized and said she could offer a partial refund for my inconvenience. She started to look up the reservation to credit my credit card account and said she couldn't do so because I booked with a third party Car Rental 8. Couldn't she see that prior to offering the credit???
I finally reached someone from Budget who said that I would receive a full refund for the mishap. I was happy to know that Budget took responsibility for their mistakes and offered me the refund. It took over a month but I just received a credit on my credit card but not for the full amount as promised. They shorted me $63. I called Budget to inform them that I was not credited the full amount as promised. They are stating that the refund has been processed and that I will not receive the additional amount for the full refund. I will NEVER use Budget Rental Car again.

I called the reservation center on September 21, 2016 and rented a van for September 29, 2016 through October 3, 2016. I am a Fastbreak customer so I received a 5% discount. I also received a 10% discount as I gave your agent my AARP number. I was advised I would receive an additional driver free of charge. When I went to pick up the van at the Capital Commons Shopping Center on Louisburg Road, Raleigh, NC I was advised they did not have any vans. I was given a Nissan Pathfinder. The Pathfinder is very high and the back seat is a joke. You cannot sit facing the front. I had two senior citizens with me. They had problems getting in and out of the vehicle. There were six of us traveling and we could not get 6 suitcases in the storage space. My sister had to drive my personal vehicle so we could take all our luggage which was an extra expense for gas for two vehicles.
Prior to departing I called the reservation center and advised the issues I was having. Your agent would not give me the additional driver free as I was promised. Stated I had to make reservation through AARP to get the driver free. I have always made my reservations through the center and always received an additional driver. I have used Budget the past 5 years only the past two have I encountered problems. In 2015 I was to pick up my van at 8 am. It did not arrive until 8:30 am. Budget should honor statement given by your agent and try to accommodate the customer. The agent at Capital Common was not helpful at all.

I would give this pathetic franchise location a ZERO if that were an option or even a negative quadrillion. THE ABSOLUTE WORST!! I'll get into the details: I'm in town acting as best man in my best friends wedding, and we are picking up the van we rented to shuttle our guests to and fro. We arrived at the time of the reservation - the van was to be ready at one or after - however, the business was just closing and they would not assist us to obtain the rental; for which, I might add, we had already paid in full. We could literally see the van we rented sitting on the lot.
While standing in their parking lot, after knocking on the door and speaking to the service technician, all of the employees schlunked out of the building without acknowledging us, nor making any eye contact. We stopped the owner and begged him to provide us the prepaid vehicle. He told us flippantly to go to the Nashville airport - 45 mins away, 3 hours before the wedding. He then sped off without a shred of caring nor empathy.
Keep in mind, we were only there to pick up the vehicle - a specialty van we had reserved months in advance and could not source elsewhere on a weekend. There were no negative pre-conversations, no incidents of any kind, and nothing that would have put off these people from our end - simply attempting to be a customer to these folks. For whatever reason, they simply would not assist us. These are the worst kind of people. This Avis/Budget franchise should be closed. I will be following up with the corporate offices to make every effort to effect this change. I am directing this toward the most loathsome owner of this sham of a business: YOU ARE THE WORST KIND OF HUMAN BEING. I am being kind to even classify you as such. PATHETIC, HORRIBLE, UNACCEPTABLE.

The silver lining in having a vacation cut short by a hurricane is that you learn what companies you should and should not do business with in the future. We picked up our vehicle at BWI and intended to drop it at MYR 8 days later, as per our rental agreement. However due to an evacuation of coastal South Carolina... While I understand the explanation given to me about why One-Way Fees are assessed, and the Myrtle Beach location "needing cars" this situation was beyond our control and should be factored in by Budget as a cost of doing business. We had to change our flight twice and were assessed 0 fees by the airline. The hotel which we had a non-refundable rate reserved for the last 3 days of our vacation assessed us 0 fees.
The time spent on multiple phone calls, transfers, and one very unpleasant customer service agent who 'accidentally' disconnected me when I asked to speak with a supervisor, was an added bonus. So lesson learned; we will not use Budget ever again, and will highly encourage friends, family and business associates to avoid as well.

After making reservations over a week prior to the date, the vehicle we reserved was unavailable & the male without an apology or smile, gave us a quote for another & went even further by saying it's a brand new jeep, which turned out to be very dirty. We were going on our vacation, whatever price was quote initially was what we budget in for a car. We end up paying more than twice for the price we initially received at time of reservation because we got this (supposedly) brand new (dirty) suv (Ford escape), insurance. We've had experiences with car rental places before where, if the vehicle we reserved wasn't available we were given a similar vehicle at the same rate or a discounted rate & the insurance was included. Budget was a big disappointment. I pray I don't have to use them again.

I politely ask to speak to the manager. She says that he is busy with another customer and puts me on hold for 20 mins. When someone picks up it is their collision support team. I recently travelled with my wife to Phoenix and rented via Budget. We made reservations at least one month in advance. Upon arrival we noticed a fairly lengthy line. We got to the counter and I started my stopwatch on my cell phone and politely set it on the counter. You see, my only other experience with Budget was over a year ago in Florida where we waited two hours for a reserved car. In Phoenix it was explained to me that they had to locate my car... they didn't have it. The person behind the counter was short, we had to wait 45 minutes, the car was dirty... I had a sinking feeling when we walked up to the Budget counter and noticed they had a very nice waiting area. Why does a rental car company have a nice waiting area? None of the others do! I rent from Avis (Who owns Budget) for my regular business travel and NEVER wait. I guess we know what happens if they don't try harder, you get Budget Rental.
From what I have learned with my two experiences is that Budget doesn't have any cars ready. They have to get them from Avis. It doesn't matter if you have a reservation. After a long flight, when you are eager to get on your business trip or start your family vacation, you shouldn't have to wait to get a car you reserved. I will absolutely NEVER use Budget again and I strongly urge all to do the same, unless you have lots of time to kill in an airport.

We booked our rental 2 days before our arrival to the Orlando Airport, but chose to pay at the counter when we picked up the car... the total at this time was $168.24. On September 3, 2016, there was a HUGE line we stood in for over 40 minutes until we got to the counter. Once at the counter (where there were only 2 representatives helping customers), the young lady was texting as we walked up to the counter. We actually stood at the counter until she finished her text and said "how may I help you". We proceed with rental agreement, as she told us about booking a trip to Jamaica with her husband, but then found out she was pregnant and now can't go and how upset and bummed out she was.
As she read through all the rental procedures with us, and asked about additional coverages, we declined ALL additional coverage on the vehicle. She even made a comment that most people don't add those additional coverage. We signed our agreement, found the car and went on with our vacation. We had no issues returning the rental on September 10, 2016. Our final bill was emailed to us a few days later, showing an ending balance total of $279.77 charged to our credit card! There was $111.53 in additional charges billed showing Liability Insurance coverage... of which we DECLINED at the time of pick-up on 9/3/16.
I made a phone call to customer service, which was like talking to a wet washcloth, they were ZERO help! So we started making phone calls to the Orlando Airport terminal. There was an option to speak to the terminal manager. Once it rang a few times a message would come on saying the voicemail was full and could not record any messages. It automatically transferred to another extension, where no one answered. I was able to leave a message, but have still not heard back from anyone!!! They obviously don't care about their customers or purposely rip people off adding additional items to their bills, then not return calls. I am very, very disappointed in the service I received from them and do not recommend using Budget at the Orlando Airport!!!

I reserved a 12 passenger Ford Transit Van a month BEFORE my trip. The night before my trip, I got a phone call from Muhammad at the rental car place saying they wouldn't have my van at 8 am (the scheduled time) but they would have it at 3 pm. **The van was reserved for a four day cross country trip from North Bergen, NJ to Oregon. We had a very tight schedule--depart NJ with van at 8 am on Thursday and arrive in OR at 12 pm on Sunday. **
Muhammad called 30 minutes before the office closed so he directed me to call customer service to see if we could secure a van. My husband and I collectively spent THREE HOURS on the phone with a variety of people including Chantal, Albert, Josh, Nadia, Mark, Monique, Lee, and Mariah. This wasn't even everyone we talked to, we just got tired of writing down names. No one helped at all, some even hung up on us, most just kept transferring us to other agents, and putting us on hold.
It was absolutely the worst customer service experience in my life. From talking to all of these agents, we found out that there were additional 12 passenger vans in other cities very nearby, but for some reason (and no one knew why), the locations would not lend the van without charging US an extra $200. Thanks a lot, Budget, it sure makes sense to charge your customer an extra $200 to get the car they reserved even though they will have to go to another location just because the location it was originally reserved from didn't have it in the first place. Who makes these decisions? ?
On the day of the trip, we were told to call Carl (who seemed to be the only possible person to help us). Once we talked to him, he agreed to give us a small discount ($100 off of the $1300 total). While that was appreciated, he was rather rude to us and told us "not to scream at him." (A terse tone of voice is not the same as screaming.)
Overall, the main reason this experience was so upsetting was because we reserved the van a month ahead of time, simply to ensure that it would be there--at the location and time we reserved it for. The customer service by both the people in the office and on the phone was just awful since they all said nobody could get us a van. Someone in this company needs to get their fleet managers to actually manage the fleet of cars so they will be in the proper place for the people who paid for it.
We did finally get the van we reserved at 4 pm--8 hours after our scheduled time. This delay caused us to have to drive through the night without sleeping in order to stay on schedule. We still returned the car on time (because no one offered to give us extra time even though they took away most of the first day). I will never use Budget again and I will discourage anyone I know to use them. For a company whose main mission is to serve the customers, they are not doing a very good job at it.
