One star...two more than they deserve. I had to pay WEC 300$ for another meter...never mentioned that during the pitch, and that is the smallest problem with these liars. This is a deceptive and dishonest company that only cares about how many installs and contracts they can do...not caring if it is done correctly to the home they put their panels on, and they refuse to correct their errors when confronted that the installation is wrong, creating a severe and imminent hazard to my home. One panel is 2 inches from the other roof that makes up the valley, and when the snow comes to Cabot, and it will come to my house, at 2000ft elevation, it is going to rip the roof off my home that the panels are attached to when it slides, or build up so deep that it poses the threat of collapsing.
I heat with wood, and cannot access my chimney to clean it, because the panels are in the only way up to the chimney. I have the diagram of what the installers were supposed to do, and it does not look anything like what was done. 4 panels were supposed to go on the garage, but all 12 got stuffed onto one roof on the house. I have been lied to repeatedly when trying to seek a solution to this abomination of an installation. When I pointed out to the installers that this is not right, on the day of the install, I was told they were done for the day, and would come back. Never did, and never had any intention of fixing their erroneous, incompetent job. These guys could not count their bolts or nuts twice and come up with the same number.
I have asked Nelson, the sales guy for help, over a month ago, and was told that something would be done...well "something" was done... I have been put off and ignored...that is "something"!! A tech was scheduled to come out for a communications problem. I went 4+ months not being able to see what the system was doing. I was told a time frame I HAD to be home for this visit to fix the communications problem. I waited, and waited, and when the time window was up, at 5 pm, I called the company to see what the deal was, and was told the time window was in Pacific time, not Vermont time. Really?!? 3000 miles away?!? I missed an afternoon of work for nothing. Might as well have used GMT as a reference.
He finally showed up, a couple hours later. The tech photographed the job done by the install crew, acknowledging that the job was done incorrectly, and promised he would start the process for the panels to be moved. Nope...nuthin..not a peep after. In 'fairness'.....they gave me a credit of half what income I lost. The communications problem was not rectified until a couple weeks ago. I have tried for 6 months to get this hazard corrected. I was told the legal department had to review the issue, and they would get back to me within 3 business days. That was a month and a half ago...nary a peep from anyone. The install crew did not have to contact Legal to change the agreed upon specific design that they were sent up here to install.
I've stopped paying my monthly bill until this is corrected. If you go with the lease program, you're stuck with what you get, even if it is wrong. I get several calls a day about my past due bill, but nothing about correcting the incompetence of the install crew... Lots of peeps about me being past due... Sometimes 3 or 4 calls a day from spoofed VT numbers from a call center on the other side of the country. I tell them I'll make a payment when a crew shows up to move the panels that are endangering my home.
I really wish I had never done business with this dishonest company. They represent the worst of the worst. They will tell you anything to get you signed up, and then leave you flapping on the breeze with NO support, and a product you pay for that is a hazard that they refuse to remedy, or even acknowledge. Run from Sunrun....no other company can possibly be this bad.

The fellow that sold Sunrun to us was very patient and willing to answer all our questions. He explained everything and he wrote it down. So that was good. The people that came out explained everything. They cleaned up after themselves and then they have a thing online where you can check in to see what your next step is. So it was good and easy. I only pay Sunrun now and it's much less than what my bills have been. I have a direct deposit with them to take the money out. But they still send me a bill that says paid, and I appreciate that. When I was switching to another electric company, I was told that I had to let Sunrun know. But the lady that I spoke to didn't seem to know anything about it. She said they didn't need that information. But the other times that I talked to customer service, it was very good.
The primary electric company told me that I had a certain amount of money because the electric company buys back this electric that the solar uses. They told me that I'd be getting a check and it takes about six weeks. So the time passed and I called the company, Eversource Energy, and I asked them when I was gonna get my check. They said they don't give me that money. They hold that money and I only get it if I move out of the service area or I switch electric companies. So I called Sunrun and they said that they couldn't do anything about it. That was just how it was. But I didn't know that because I thought that they buy it back. It's awful.
Thanks for your review, Lois! Our goal is to make going solar easy and enjoyable, and we're so happy to hear that you had a good experience with us. Thanks for doing your part by helping us create a planet run by the sun!

I purchased Sunrun panels via Costco about 5 years ago. While I'm extremely happy with the production of clean energy, I am incredibly dissatisfied with Sunrun's original install and follow through with customer service. During the install, they created a hole in our garage roof at least the diameter of a quarter - it was so obvious, the sun was shining through! How they could have missed that, I still do not know. We are now in need of a new roof. I asked the original representative, when I purchased the panels, about the process if/when we needed a new roof. He said it was an "easy" process. So far, it has been quite the opposite.
I called generic customer service Friday, Oct 13 and talked to “Christina”. She sent me the remove/reinstall form and said someone would contact me within 5-7 days after I submitted the form. I submitted the form that day, Friday, Oct 13. I resubmitted a form the week following because I hadn’t heard anything. I thought maybe I did something wrong? nope.
As I type this review today, Nov, 8, not one human has contacted me. I have received a ridiculous amount of “how did we do” emails. I will tell you now, Sunrun is not doing well in my opinion. I have contacted customer service again, multiple times and via multiple avenues. On Oct 31 I called TWICE - both times the auto-bot said the “wait time is less than 5 min”. First call I was on hold for 47 min. Second time I was on hold 38 min. Definitely not less than 5 min.
During the second call I began a live chat with an online “person”. They said I had some Docusign paperwork sent to my email (after I had selected phone as the best way to get ahold of me on the original form- why even ask if you’re just going to email anyway?). They gave me the number for the removal/reinstall contact - that auto-bot said it was an 81 minute wait and I could, instead, press 1 for someone to call me back. That was Oct 31 and still, to this day, not one human has contacted me.
I found the Docusign estimates in my junk folder and, with some serious hesitation, signed it - hoping that would prompt SOMEONE to contact me. That was Nov 2. I've heard nothing. So, yesterday (Nov 7), I decided to contact the live chat again. They gave me my case number a case manager, Johnatan ** and said to wait ANOTHER 3 days after saying my case is now “high priority”. I’d hate to see what low priority looks like. I have emailed and called my case manager 4 times as of today and still heard nothing. His voicemail answers every time and says he's "not in the office right now". Is he ever there?
I’m feeling a little stuck. The chasing around to get a human to simply contact me after I’ve done everything I need to do starting 3+ weeks ago is ridiculous. And not sustainable. I have a job - I can’t stay on hold for hours on end ignoring my life and I’m nervous thinking about how long it will take for someone to get a hold of me once I do get a new roof to reinstall my panels.
Now I’m looking through all the reviews and see I’m not the only one with this situation. This is something I was told was an “easy” thing to do when I signed up with your company - now I feel like it’s the exact opposite and your company is truly bringing a lot of undue stress and worry into my life. How am I supposed to know your company actually isn’t as efficient as they claimed to be? How long will I have to wait for them to reinstall - using non-sustainable electricity (which is exactly what I want to avoid) - to get a simple call-back?
Sounds like Sunrun should either step up their customer relations and/or allow us to use an outside service to remove panels so that customers can do what was promised to be an "easy" process. They state the warranty will be nullified if we do use another provider. What about any accountability on Sunrun's part if they don't do what they promised? (especially considering the promise is as mundane as a simple phone call). What can we do, as consumers, to hold them to the same standards for which they hold us?
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Dana. We'd be happy to look into this for you and we will be sending you a private message requesting additional account information so that we can assign a Specialist to assist you directly.

The process with Sunrun took a little while but it wasn't bad. It was because they needed to get my information and follow their own procedure to install the system. When they got it installed, there was some damage to my wall. They did not fix it and I had to call them over and over. But in the long run, everything was sorted out because they gave me some money for the damage, which was about $800 and some change, and the claims process didn't take long.
The solar is somehow connected side by side with the SMECO meter and everything's working good because ever since it was installed, I've not gotten any breakdown. But if I consider the money I pay for the solar and the money I keep paying for the electricity as one, I'm paying more now. I used to pay less than$200 for my electricity bill, but now that I got the solar, I pay about 100 and something dollars every month for the solar and sometimes I could get a bill of about 100 or more. So if I spend the two together and compare with my previous bills when I never had solar, I was spending less when I did not have solar than now that I have solar. Also, when I asked about the principal, it went up to about $150,000 and that's too much.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Collins! Monthly savings will vary depending on your usage, but we would be more than happy to take a closer look at this for you to ensure that you are enjoying the full benefits of going solar. I'm leasing with Sunrun and the first couple of years, the system was very on and off and I had a lot of repairmen. But after they got it fixed, I haven't had any problem. For the month that I did not have the solar at all, they gave me a discount on my monthly payment. But one thing that I'm really upset about is that, when I bought it, they said that they took care of all the repairs and that included cleaning the panels. I cannot get anybody to clean the panels. When I go into Costco and asked the salesman there, he said it was included. But Sunrun just kind of wash me off.

The first time, we put in 15 panels and it went like clockwork. The second time, it was a disaster. The project manager kept on dropping the ball and it took six months from installation to the system to it being turned on. Other than that, it was easy to enroll and the system has been saving us a lot of money. I have an electric truck and I put current in that. I don't have to pay for anything. I'm loving it.

Sunrun put on 28 panels. What I asked for was what they calculated. The installers were very professional. They cleaned up after themselves and weren't rowdy. They went right down to business and did everything that they had to do. It was the same thing with the gentleman who came out to the house to survey our roof to make sure everything was okay to move forward with the installation of the panels. So, they were very good with that piece of it. Supposedly, our neighbor already has solar panels on their house and was happy with the product. But I was very apprehensive about it. The only reason why I elected to go with the solar panels was so that I could try to shorten my electric bill, but that's not the case. If anything, Sunrun charges me $203 a month.
There have been times when I was on straight electricity where my bill would be much less. And when we first got up and running, because I wasn't familiar with the process and in the winter time, you don't always have as much fun as you do in the summertime, I was getting hit essentially with three electric bills rather than two. My house is on one meter and our garage is on its own separate meter. So when the panels kicked in back in December of ’22, I was getting hit for the house with Sunrun as well as National Grid, which greatly pissed me off. In the very beginning when I found out that I was getting hit with two bills, I filed a complaint for being hit with a monthly bill of $203 plus my National Grid.
After speaking with the two young men who came to our house to try to convince us to sign on to the product, I felt like I was taken advantage of because I didn't truly understand all that was anticipated with the product and how the process worked. I spoke with the manager but they were supposed to try to reach out to the individual to find out exactly what he went over and what the anticipation was, and what my process was like. This is so that others wouldn't fall into the same step that I fell into, a misunderstanding, and they'd be more knowledgeable if they decided they wanted to choose that particular product or stay with the standard electricity from National Grid. But they got back to me eventually and told me that they were unable to contact that gentleman who came by our house.
At this point, contractually, we're stuck with the solar panels. We signed a 25-year contractual agreement. And whatever the value is of those panels after the 25 years, we would pay the difference. What they're charging us now is the monthly fee for the generation of the electricity from those panels. In my eyes, after I talked with our neighbor across the street, he was paying a monthly fee to the company for the purchase of the panels, but he is not paying for electricity. So, I'm just the opposite, the way we're set up here.
Sunrun is gonna grab you one way or another. So, instead of telling you to buy the panels, they would say they would charge you for the electricity and then you won't have to pay for the panels until after 25 years. And then they'll flip the value. So, it's the same thing. I will sell my house before the 25 years are over just so I can get out of this contractual arrangement with Sunrun. And the only reason why I don't mind doing that is because I will be retiring soon. Sunrun has a website that allows me to sign on and look at how much electricity has been generated. They've created a decent website. Had I begun with a good experience with them, then I probably would care. But I almost never sign on to that website now because I just have no love for Sunrun. I just wait for my monthly notification. They tell me my electric bill and I go to BillPay and pay it. And when I talk to others, I tell them they don't wanna go with this company.
Thank you for taking the time to share this information, Doris. Let me start by saying we are so sorry to hear that you are not getting the answers you need, and our team would like to take a closer look into this further to see how we can help. We chose to go with SunRun because we were referred to them and the salesperson was friendly and knowledgable. He drove around the neighborhood with my wife to look at other solar installations. My wife pointed out which ones were appealing and which were not. The salesperson promised her that the tracks on our roof would NOT be aluminum color, but black. Black panels do not look good on aluminum colored rails. Makes the brackets stick out like a sore thumb. The installation crew arrived on a very rainy day and installed the panels. My wife pointed out that the tracks were NOT black, but rather the very aluminum she was promised we would NOT get. The installer told her the reason they were using these particular brackets was that they were easier to install.
We reached out to the Salesperson. Got basically crickets. We got an email from the Installation Coordinator who mentioned that he'd need to talk to the Construction Manager who was on vacation. More wait time. This issue currently remains unresolved, the panels are producing electricity and seem to work well. The App to monitor production and usage doesn't actually show production and usage in real time, only a recap of the previous day's production. Pretty weak tea. ln sum I am less than blown away by the customer service and excuses we've heard from SunRun about our installation.

Horrible Experience with Sunrun Solar. I am deeply disappointed and disgusted with the service provided by Sunrun Solar. Despite contacting numerous representatives and supervisors, my issues with non-functioning solar panels persist. We spoke to Anda M on 6/16, Moria C on 7/12, Boris S on 9/25, Deja R on 10/4, Natalia P on 10/9, Ebony T on 10/9, Daniela P on 10/9, Akeia P on 10/16, Carl B on 10/17, Ivan H on 10/19, Maria A on 10/20, Marissa on 10/20, Ivan H on 10/26, and Daniela R on 10/27. We were assured a refund of well over $2,000 but Sunrun has failed to rectify the situation despite numerous attempts.
Attempts to address the inefficiency of the solar panels have been futile, and the company has refused to investigate or provide the promised refund. This blatant disregard for customer concerns and the apparent lack of effort to resolve the issue is unacceptable. It seems like they are knowingly charging us for non-producing solar panels, which they have acknowledged. Our solar panels have not been producing since April 2022, 0 kilowatts from then to now. They have even told us we have out of date inefficient equipment, yet they refuse to fix our current system.
The refusal to pull phone calls and the overall lack of due diligence further highlight Sunrun's negligence. This experience has left me frustrated, dissatisfied, and feeling as though I've been taken advantage of since I have been a customer since November 2017. I strongly advise others to reconsider choosing Sunrun for their solar needs, given the company's apparent disregard for customer satisfaction and commitment to resolving issues.

It was a very easy process to get the contract. Also, the price and package they had was very attractive. The installation took a week and there was a little disruption with our daily activities. But we survived it and it worked fine. The production varies depending on whether it's cloudy or summer. I'm getting used to what the system can produce every month. The system is very good and we save money with it through summertime. Most of the months from January through May in Phoenix, our electric bill was negative and we made more electricity than we used. During the summer, we pay the summertime, we pay some additional over what we pay to Sunrun. But that is expected because without solar, we would pay a lot more. We recommend Sunrun. The salesman came by about two years ago. He gave me his card and it was no pressure. Then I called them back and he was very, very helpful. We figured everything out. I was a little slow to learn the process of solar, so he took the time to explain it to me. They were installed in December of last year. We had an installation crew come out and they got everything installed in one day.
Sunrun had to send someone else back to do the grounding of the units. It had to be grounded in two places and that was where we had a little bit of a problem because when checked by the city of San Jose, apparently there were supposed to be two of them, and the guy put one, and it was too close to the PG&E gas meter. So he had to change that. It got resolved and we've been using the system, so it's been very beneficial. We started using the system in early January of this year. Last summer, we had a PG&E and our bill was $660. But this summer in the same house, we had an electric bill of about $20.

Getting the city and Sunrun up and running was a little bit slow but once it finally did, I was totally happy with it. There was an issue with the engineering side of it, but I let Sunrun know and they were responsive to my concerns. They gave me some credit for the work because they had to do a little bit of structural work. Sunrun has been great. We got an upsized panel, which is nice. It seems good. Especially at the time I got it, the whole supply chain stuff was going on and so they shuffled stuff around to make sure that we could get it installed with good panels. The app is not gonna blow your socks off but the company has been responsive too every time that the app has led me to reach out and they’ve been present enough.

It shows my usage, but not just that day, for the week, month, and year. The only thing I regret is not getting a solar battery. I got no proper information from anyone as to when the techs are coming to remove the solar panels. At 11:30 AM I got a call stating that they can't remove the panels today due to sick crew which was a lie as when I spoke to the team lead I got to know that they have taken extra work which they are unable to fulfil.
This completely spoiled my festive season and also I am unsure that my insurance company is going to continue to give me insurance as they want me to replace my roof ASAP. The roofers have taken advance and they are asking me for more money as they had booked their days to work on my roof. It is a complete disaster monetarily and psychologically for me and my family as we can't decorate our roof with lights. Sunrun on top it is charging humongous amount of money. DO NOT USE SUNRUN.

Sunrun is reliable and has good value. Jim was the representative that I worked with. He was on top of things, kept me informed. Any questions, he answered instantly. Or text messages, he responded within minutes, not days. Also, their rep answered my question, got somebody out, and addressed my issue in a very timely manner. My utility bills in the summer used to run $600 running the AC. And since going solar, I have a monthly credit rather than having to pay the utility company. Only once in the last year and a half have I had any payment due, and it was $15. So, the only thing I'm paying for my utilities is what I pay Sunrun for the solar panels. I also got a very nice partial credit back from the utility company for the excess energy that I produce. So, that's good. I save money but also contribute to the grid. Also, I don't worry about losing power when I work from home.

It's nice to be able to have some electricity that we don't have to pay for, other than the system we paid for. The price is good, and I monitor things on the app, which is good as well.
In terms of customer service, I have had some issues with calling the normal 800 number and trying to get things done, so I reached back out to our salesperson. We liked going solar so much, we had a second system installed on our house about a year and a half after our first system to upgrade it even more. We dealt with Merrick who was the sales guy and he was able to make things work. When I talked to the other people at Sunrun, they couldn't make it work. Sunrun gave us a good price and a good contract so we picked it up. The system didn't make the house look bad and it didn't change anything in the house, so I'm satisfied. I saved a little bit of money once I learned how to use it. Because we have a little bit more people, we use more energy. But before that, we were saving at least $35 a month. All in all, we're good and we're happy. We've had no breakdowns.
Sunrun has good people to me and I personally don't have any problems. But I recommended the neighbor to get it and Sunrun was trying to sell them 23 panels and my neighbor was asking why she needed 23. I don't know why it jumped up so high and where they need it. If Sunrun wants that customer, they need to figure out a way to get it. Also, I recommended Sunrun to a couple of people and they got the panels. But I haven't gotten my compensation for that.

It was easy to set up to get the solar installed. But we've had a lot of problems since then. They gave us a date for setup. We were planning on moving our car out of the garage while they did it just in case there were any problems with anything falling through from the top side of the roof. They came a day early, and they didn't tell me they were coming. So, they came when I wasn't even home and did it and left. The only reason I knew they had been here was because I found Gatorade empty bottles on the ground in the backyard. I couldn't figure out where they came from so I investigated around the property, and ended up finding out that the solar panels were up in the roof. Our solar broke down recently and it was down for two months. That made me very mad that it took that long for them to come and get it back up and running again. So, I was not happy.
When I referred four people to Sunrun, it was such a battle to get my referral bonus. They didn't just automatically give it to me once they hooked up. I had to keep bothering them and contacting them to get it. I still have one I haven't ever received yet. Sunrun told me, “Oh, you gotta get ahold of that person.” But I told them, “Well, that person lives in San Diego. You guys have all their information I gave you when I referred her.” It showed that she was in the process of it. I won't refer anybody ever again because that was not right.

Before Sunrun came in and put the panels, the tech left his phone number with me and said, "If you could think of anything else that you like to ask." So I called him a couple of times with questions that I had before they did the setup. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't getting into something that I was gonna be sorry down the line. So I wanted to make sure that this was for me and it was right for us. He answered all of my questions and explained everything to the best he could. I was happy with his service and what he explained and the way he explained it.
Last year, I had a big bill and I wasn't happy with that because the reason that I put the solar panels is so I don't have these huge bills. I called Edison and they said that maybe my system wasn't working because I was using their electricity. But I shouldn't be using their electricity because I have panels. He told me, "Well, then you need to take it to the company that set up the panels for you. I don't know what to tell you. I'm just telling you what I see here." So I called Sunrun and I told them what was going on. They checked the system and said that something was not working properly and that was the reason that I had a huge bill. I told them, "Well, I mean, I don't wanna be doing that because now I have a really big bill. I have to pay the bill from Edison and then I have to pay you guys. That wasn't the deal. That wasn't the reason I put the panels." So they said, "Okay. Well, we'll try helping you out, whatever."
They checked it out and found one of the panels was damaged. So they changed it with another one and told me to keep an eye on it. The light has to be green always. So I go out there and check and make sure that the light is green. Since then, it went back to being normal and I'm only getting my bill from Sunrun. When I used the app to look at my bill and they sent me messages, it was pretty good.

Our solar panels have been installed and they've been on the house and been working for almost two years. The bill's been great. We haven't really had other than the delivery charges. Going solar was a little bit pricey. I could have gotten a system for quite a bit less. I would recommend Sunrun though. The only issue we had was the installation. I know some of that was out of their hands. When we were waiting to get permission from PG&E to turn on, it was quite lengthy. They put the system in on the 1st of September and we didn't go online until January 1st. I did complain a little bit that it took so long. They did give us a $200 check to help to pay for when it wasn't operating.
The crew that installed the system was fantastic. They were in and out in less than half a day. The sales rep was great, too. They were very informative. She answered all my questions. The app has been great. As far as maintenance, you just have to clean the panels. Otherwise, you lose efficiency. You lose about 15% efficiency if you don't wash them. As long as you're getting a lot of rain, you're fine.

The experience with Sunrun was great until the last three months when the inverter broke down. It took them almost two and a half months to fix it and that made me not very happy because we lost the peak of the generation. And in a couple of months when it was bloody hot and you use more electricity. So I was not impressed by the service. We started with them close to three years ago. Everything was fine and I'm very happy with the system. It is good. But when there is a problem, you expect that it doesn't take three months to fix something.
Switching to solar was beneficial for us. It penciled out very well until it doesn't work anymore. From day one, Sunrun said they had it in stock but they didn't have anyone available to do the work. So, it's a human resource issue. You can keep on fighting them, but it's not my style. I can understand when something goes bad. That's how life is. I have a lease contract for 25 years. So it doesn't cost me anything. The only thing that cost me is I don't generate any solar into the system. So, I pay for electricity now. I use Sunrun’s app, which is how I figured out that I'm not producing. It surprised me because they claim they monitor stuff. So, they should have been ahead of the game. But I like the app a lot.

It's no big deal for me to pay for it, and I'm getting a little cut back.

Sunrun installed the system when they said they would. They had multiple vehicles come to my house throughout the day and the last guy to come shoved my electric gate open rather than get somebody to open it for him. He damaged the settings on the gate and I was without the use of the electronic function of opening and closing the gate until I was able to find somebody to fix mine. It was for about five months and Sunrun was of no help in this. It was their guy who did it and I've even got emails to prove it. They didn't tell me that if I found somebody to fix it, they might pay for it.
Sunrun sold me 20 panels that each have the ability to produce 400 watts of power and that's 8 kilowatts. However, the inverter that they installed can only handle 6. The sun could be exploding above my house and it'll never go above that. So, it is unbalanced. But that almost never hurts me. The only time it does is when I'm trying to charge my electric car. The system wants to draw 9 kilowatts and it's only producing 6. So, it starts sucking power out of the battery. It's a wonderful Tesla Powerwall 2 battery and it does what it should. It's just I shouldn't have to rely on that battery for some of that power because I've got the panels for it.
Sunrun charged me extra money. Every panel was $8 in my monthly bill and I've got three extra panels, which the inverter can't take the power from them. But other than that, the system is working flawlessly. It comes on when it should. It's costing me the amount of money it's supposed to except it can't produce all the power that Sunrun sold me panels for. I love the app on my phone. It tells me how much power is being produced, how much my house is using, how much is going into the Powerwall battery and it shows me history back for a year. It's good.
Jonie, the rep, was very good and I enjoyed working with her. She took over the order and prevented me from buying more panels but she might have known that the inverter was undersized. She said she would talk with her boss and get back to me. And nothing really came from that. That's happened three times. She's who I went to with the gate. She told me that she had talked with her boss and if I found somebody to fix it, they might pay for it. Hawaii is a strange place and I could not find anybody to repair the gate. I went back to the original people who installed it and they told me the system was badly damaged and I would need to replace the whole thing. And it's gonna cost $1,500. It was simply a setting for where close and open are with the controller. Eventually, when I got my neighbor's guy to come over. It cost me 50 bucks for him to take it apart, click it a few times and get it to go back and forth and get to just the right spot.

SunRun and Solar Energy World Review. Terry **, Earleville MD. Please read this all the way thru before you decide to go with SunRun / Solar Energy World. I do not recommend them! I am very dissatisfied with the service I received from SunRun and Solar Energy World. My solar panels went down on 7/29/2023 and were down for 43 days before they replaced the bad part and got me back up and operating. Listed below are the chain of events.
7/29/23 - system went down. 7/31/23 - I called SunRun and was told Solar Energy World would get back to me in 7-8 business days. 8/9/23 - I called Sunrun again due to no call from Solar Energy World and was told 3 business days. 8/9/23 - called Solar Energy World and had to leave a message. No response back. 8/15/23 - finally got thru and they scheduled a service call for 8/18/23. 8/18/23 - Service tech found the problem and ordered the new part and was told 7-8 business days for the part to come in. 8/22/23 - called Solar Energy World for update on part, No response. 8/23/23 - called again, will keep me updated.
8/28/23 - called Sunrun, they will contact Solar Energy World, no response back. 8/29/23 - called Solar Energy World again for update on part, no response. 8/30/23 - emailed CEO, I was told they are working on it. 9/8/23 - I put a bad review on the Sunrun web site! 9/8/23 - Got a call from Sunrun, repair scheduled for 9/12/23. 9/12/23 - System up and running after 43 days. 9/14/23 - went back and forth with emails to Sunrun CEO till 9/19/23 trying to make me whole for the downtime and lost kwh produced.
My contract reads they are not responsible for lost down time. I would agree with that if it only took a few days to get my system back up and running, but 43 days? I was credited two months of my monthly payments but nothing for the kwh that I lost in 43 days which came to $216 when I averaged the prior two years. First page of my agreement with Sunrun reads. I have been with Sunrun for almost 4 years and never been late on any payment. Recently, Colorado been hit by a storm of hail and my roofing was damaged and been issued by my insurance company to fix it, everything was good until the point of removing the panels and reinstalling them which Sunrun was not hopeful and want to charge me $3800 for both removing my solar and reinstalling them even though it is a natural disaster and I have ten years warranty. Firstly, I'm not saving any bills on my electricity and even the charges increased and now I can't fix my roofing because Sunrun are unable to remove them and reinstall them secondly, I can't even breach the contract or cancel the services. 100% theft, 100% you won't save anything but giving extra cash for those criminals who uses the contract on their full benefit, so be safe and do not sign anything with those thief.

Sunrun removed my system while a new tile roof was put on. They will not come out to reinstall it. I am paying about $100 per month extra for electricity b/c Sunrun has me stuck. If I use a 3rd party, Sunrun voids my warranty. Sunrun sent a cost invoice that included $2500 for "engineering." Their field tech told me that only the type of holding clips, made for concrete tiles, will be different for remounting on a flat cement tile roof. Sunrun renegotiated the "engineering" price down to half, or $1250. That is worth maybe 8 engineering hours, but Sunrun doesn't use real engineers for this. In fact, the engineering should be zero because it's not needed to re-install, especially since I already paid an independent structural engineer $900 to confirm that my home attic framing is sufficient to support concrete tile load.
I called and emailed to have my panels put back up and to say I don't believe they do ANY engineering. They have not returned calls or emails. Not coincidentally, Sunrun stopped partnering with Costco as a preferred provider, nationwide, as of late Summer 2023. I lost leverage with Costco, where I contracted with Sunrun 5 years ago, to entice Sunrun to take care of problems.
Thank you for reaching out and letting us know, David. Our team would be more than happy to look into the engineering charge to see how we can help resolve your concerns. It would not let me give it zero stars but that’s what SunRun deserves. We signed up for panel upgrades in January 2023. We are in September and my panels are not activated. This company has extremely poor communication. Never scheduled appointments, random people would show up at my house expecting to have access of my property. We called multiple times and sent endless emails for status and never got straight answers. The last time SunRun was at my house was June. I assumed they were done as we didn’t hear from them. Then I got my SCE bill and it tripled. I called them immediately, and the rep informed me that my service was not on. They disabled my old panels and never completed activating the additional panels they installed.
They scheduled an appointment two to three weeks from the day I called. They were “busy” and couldn’t send a tech sooner. We were now in August. My husband took that Monday off and no one showed up. He called and hours later they sent a tech. The tech changed an antenna on my old system, from 2G to 3G, and said my new system is on standby mode and he is not authorized to touch it so we are still offline. We have continued to call and no one has any answers. In the meantime my SCE bill is up to $1600. I live in the desert and it has been extremely hot. I hope this review gets someone’s attention at SunRun and they finish the job asap.
We are so sorry to hear this, Erika! My name is Frances, and I am part of Sunrun's Social Media Team. We would love to review your system's performance and ensure the panels are activated! When the Sunrun rep came and talked to my dad, it made my dad think that going solar was gonna be a better deal than paying the light company. When I researched solar panels, I thought it was gonna work itself out because it's generating from the sun, but that's not the way it's working. The rep told my dad that it was gonna be only one bill. So my dad thought it was gonna be all combined together and pay one bill. But we still have to pay the light bill plus pay for the system and he didn't realize that until after the fact. We did all the paperwork and then the installers came. They put the roof up first and they said that was gonna be free. After the roof was put up, they cut the trees down to clear the view for the sun. Then we waited months after that because Sunrun said the home association wasn't responding to them. So the solar panels were up there for a while.
After the home association gave Sunrun the okay to activate the system, it took a little less than a month to activate it. But we're paying the light bill and it was still at $400. My dad is trying to figure it out now, but the bill is already going up. It's 1,300 now. My dad is on a fixed income. So, he's not gonna be able to afford that. So he's thinking about letting them come back and take it down.
Someone else called me from Sunrun and I was trying to explain that to them, but they kept saying that they needed to talk to my dad and that we had to pay it. I called the light company and they have a buyback plan. The bill is still around $200 right now since I got on that buyback plan. But that's still $500 coming from my dad because he's still paying the light company.
When I look at the contract, it's more like the bill is gonna go up each year. But I talked to a lady across the street from me and they're with a different company. She said that her brother is not really paying anything on his, and that you have to do it a certain way in order for you not to be paying that high bill. I tried that, but I still can't figure it out.
Overall, the product is good. But when the power went out over here, I thought that since we have solar, we don't have to worry about it. But our power went out too and came back on the same time everybody else's came back on. So I told my dad that he's gonna have to get a generator either way it goes. But everyone I've talked to at Sunrun has been nice so far. They've been explaining everything and how it really works. I love their website. It's catchy.
Thank you for sharing your story, Doretha. Your feedback helps us continue to improve your solar experience. We certainly don't want you or your father to feel frustrated. We will send you a private message requesting additional account information to get an Expert assigned to your case. Thanks!

I was contacted by SunRun & agreed to a presentation. The rep entered my information & told me that my bill with Duke Energy would be in the $65 range & I would pay SunRun $178 monthly so I signed up. It took many months to acquire the installation & then the service was faulty & my billing was the full amount from Duke Energy plus the SunRun Bill. After a service call SunRun credited my account for the overcharge due to technical problems. Unfortunately their system is still not operating as promised & my billing from Duke Energy is nearly $200 plus their bill so, my cost is substantially more than promised. When I contacted Sun Run Customer Service they said I could not get an offset on the overcharge because my equipment was now functioning properly. Be very careful when considering this option & company!

Once they got the system on, there was a problem with the electric company because they were changing equipment. But once everything matched, everything was okay. It took about six months for everything to get settled. That was longer than we thought but it wasn't Sunrun's fault. On the whole, my experience was great and Sunrun has saved me a lot of money.

I made the terrible decision to take over a Sunrun solar system lease while purchasing a home back in 2015. Since then it has been non-stop headaches. Just to name a few of the issues:
- I am paying more for electricity WITH solar than I would be without it. They agreed to compensate for this, but have only done so once.
- The solar system has failed or ran into problems multiple times, and Sunrun is NOT monitoring the system as promised, so sometimes I will find the system has been down for months! With no monthly discount or compensation.
- Every single time we reach out to have a technician come out, it is a total headache. They either don't answer, don't show up, show up unannounced, or cancel last minute. This has caused some serious conflicts with our tenants, and has caused a tenant to not renew their lease; literally costing me months worth of income! This is unacceptable.
I would love nothing more than to get out of this one sided, unfair, and unfulfilled contract!!

Do not pay early when using AutoPay: I have been on AutoPay since I got solar panels installed with Vivint in 2016. Sunrun apparently brought them out. This is the second time this has happened; I did not complain the 1st time it happened. I do not know the actual date from month to month when they will deduct payment from my account. I looked at my recent payment history and they were all over the place: (the dates were not consistent). This month August 2023, I paid them with my Credit Card on the 21st and on the 22nd they also withdrew from my checking account. This is what happened the 1st time also. I called the customer service number, and the customer service person was nice, she apologized for the inconvenience due to the overdraft on my checking account. She stated she could issue a refund check. But it's not her fault.
What type of computer system are they using if it can't tell that a payment has been made and the balance is zero. (Seems like they are cost cutting on important things, to save a little money). This may seem like nothing to some people but, I consider this to be poor customer service. I know, I have a negative balance for next month. But that's not the point.

Currently working with a lawyer that could facilitate the removal of the panels from my building. Another company is ready to install solar panels at a lower cost. I regret doing business with them. The solar has not been working for 3 months now (which happened the first time) In the mean time I am incurring 3 months of a true-up bill. The last time I had to pay $900 in a true-up. You have to call repeatedly and fight and complain to get them to do anything, and the wait times for the service are atrocious. And when they do service the system, 50% of the time, in my experience, the technician has either NOT fixed the problem, or actually made it worse. They have wasted my time and money, and now I am currently paying them for the system, and SDG&E because their system isn't working. We have 33 panels and we went with the Power Purchase Agreement so we don't own the panels. The vendor was through a subcontractor, not Sunrun themselves, though. So there was a little confusion there but once I understood exactly what I was buying, it was a great deal. We own the power over the next 25 years. We prepaid at a certain rate and if demand exceeds what's produced by the panels, we just pay the power company. But regardless of that, the panels have a guarantee to provide a certain amount of power over their life cycle. Sunrun is responsible for maintaining, fixing and monitoring the panels over the next 25 years. And at the end of that term, if we want to renew a maintenance contract with them, we can do that at that time or we can have them remove the system or we can pay fair market value for the panels and keep the system as it is.
The installation itself went smoothly but the people who did it found out later that they didn't properly seal all the fittings. So I had a few leaks. Two were inside the house so they went into the attic and there was a little bit of water damage to the roof in my living room. Sunrun took care of that on the next day of reporting. The other two were in the garage, so there was no any significant damage there but it took Sunrun a couple of days to get out. I’m very satisfied with going solar. Before, my electricity bill was $600 a month. And this was in winter. But now, if I pay anything, it’s 20 bucks. And I'm running the AC all the time. We're an all-electric house so going solar has made a huge impact. I'm happy with Sunrun's product.

The actual roof and damages could exceed 20K easily. I am having so many delays, and trouble with the company to send out someone. I spoke with 10 persons so far and no fix. The work they did was great, but I didn't like the horseplay when they got up on the roof. In the beginning, they had to come back a couple of times to add grounding rods that the city wanted. They did that timely. They called me up when they were coming out and gave me a time frame within an hour or two which I appreciated because there are a lot of companies that say, "We'll be there between 9:00 and 5:00." We love our solar energy system. I pay almost nothing. We paid off half of the solar panels. My goal is to pay it off within five years, and I'll get it paid off within three years. I live on the island of Molokai in Hawaii, and they were doing a push to get solar. Sunrun came in and canvassed, and we all wanted to get on board. I had to call the guy and say, “Hey, I want it. Put me on the list.” You had to be on a waiting list for them to come out and interview you and talk to you and see what your needs were. I finally got my solar. The Sunrun guys that came from Maui were awesome. They were so pleasant. Everything about the experience was wonderful. My electric bill is non-existent compared to what it was. I was looking at $170 electric bills every month before, and now at Christmas time, it goes up to 100 because I have a lot of lights that I shouldn’t have. Other than that, it ranges from $25 to $35 a month. When I signed up, they said it would never go over $20 a month. That didn't last very long, but it's a sign of the times. It's not their fault.
Sunrun's customer support has been excellent. One time, I had a battery problem. They called me and said, “Hey, did you know your solar is not working? We're gonna send somebody over." They're on Maui. I'm on Molokai, so they had to come from another island and bring the battery. Another reason why I wanted the lease is because I don't have to worry about anything like that. They tell me because I'm monitored on their computer system.
I tried to call Sunrun regarding a battery backup, but they said, “Well, you can't because you selected what you selected, and there are no options for changes.” So, that is disappointing. Also, the electric company over here wants to come change my meter from a net energy meter. It's going to change my system, and I don't want my system changed. I want people to be aware of that, too. If they get solar now, they may have to go into a new system and not the old system where it was a net energy metering.

Sunrun is pretty good about getting back to me. But a lot of times, it's not that good of an explanation I get. I've been confused about a few things and I never seemed to get a straight answer. They don't explain it very well, so that gets me more confused. Last year I was having my whole house power washed. I wanted to have the roof power washed, so I thought that it would be a good time to have the panels washed. But I know that there are certain restrictions on how they have to be done.
I called Sunrun about it. If I want to have my panels cleaned, I have to have them done by someone who works through them. I told Sunrun that I had a person who was gonna do everything else on my house and he said he could do the panels, and I wanted to check with them. They said, “No. Don't have him do that. We'll have someone come out and assess everything and let you know how much it would cost to have them done.” So I told the fellow that I was working with to do everything else but not the panels. This was at the beginning of last summer in May and it took the whole summer to get them to come out and figure out and tell me anything.
I ended up telling Sunrun that I would just have part of it done. I told them to clean the panels that were under the trees. They said that they would check on that. Then they called and said they had a guy that would come up and do it. I'm in Massachusetts and he was in Connecticut. Someone called me that the fellow was gonna come up that day to do the work. I asked how much it was gonna be and it was a lot more expensive than I was thinking it was gonna be.
The guy told me that it was more expensive because he was gonna do all the panels. But I told him that I didn't need all of them done. He said, “If I wanna come all the way out there and have all my equipment and go up to do it, I'm gonna do all of them.” So I canceled that. After that, I didn't have anyone to clean them. Now it's getting to the end of the summer and going into fall. So I called Sunrun again and I told them what happened. They said that they'll check into it and get back to me. Then they called me back and said that if it was too expensive and I just wanna have a few done, I can hire my own person to do it. So I waited all summer to have them tell me to have my own person do it who I had here already three months ago and now to have him come back, it would cost me more than it would have originally. I never got it done but it's not a big deal.

It took a long time for them to get the panels up and for TEP to come. We had a hole in our front yard for three months. It was for the wiring for the solar. They had to have TEP come and check it. Also, their customer service isn't that great when you call. But my electric bill is now a lot cheaper and it's good that I can pay online.

Sunrun itself did good. The original installers were on schedule and very good, and took care of everything they were supposed to. But after that, it got bad a couple of times. Some of Sunrun's contractors stink. One guy came out, was supposed to hook it up. And it was cold and wet. Where he would was dry but he didn't wanna do it. So he said, "I have to get on the roof." And I said, "Why? No one else has ever done it. Any time we've had problems, they would pull the meter out." "No, you can't do that now, either get on the pole or on the roof." We cancelled and had to wait another several weeks to get another appointment. But when he left, he didn't stay on the driveway. He ran over my sprinkler heads and I complained.
Sunrun sent out a couple of guys who supposedly knew something about sprinklers. They got out here and had never seen the impact sprinkler heads. I said, "I have an extra couple we can use." They said, "Oh, you have some. Do you have pipe too?" They were not prepared to do anything. And they were supposed to turn in a bill to somebody there, so they would send me payment for the sprinkler heads. But they never did. I'm not happy about that.
The program that we got, there was no money out of our pockets. And we have a guaranteed rate for 16 months. It's all financed. And after 16 months, it would go up. But it would still be cheaper than our electric bill. The only recent problem was last week. The app wouldn't work. It kept saying, "No data is available for yesterday." And the next day, it would say the same thing. That went on for almost a week. And I called and complained. Sunrun said, "There's a million people out there that their app isn't working, and we're trying to locate why it's not getting the data." Soon, it started working.
One month, we had a zero electric bill. This month, it's $2 and something. So, we're okay. A lot of days, it would say so much percent overcast or cloudy. I would sit here most days looking out and say, "There's not a cloud in the sky." So, the system must find something that it thinks is a cloud up there. The one month, it put in the bank. And the next month, it used most of it to pay all the availability charge. And the next month, we had a bit banked left. But that left us with $2.45 short. So, I'm happy with that. And it's because our air conditioners have to run a ton because of this weather.

Sunrun seems to have a decent deal and it wasn't breaking my bank. It seemed like it was a good investment. Everything with the installation seemed to be fine. There was an issue, but it was not Sunrun's fault, but someone turned the power off for the solar, so that would definitely affect me. What was cool was that I got an email that said, "Something looks wrong. We'll have somebody call you to reach out and support you, because we're not recognizing solar connection." Something was off with the connection that Sunrun recognized on their end. I would have went months without ever knowing that. So that was a huge thing unrelated to the install, but the follow-up on their end was a pretty big deal. That was probably my biggest win right now. It was a simple fix that they talked with me on the phone about, and everything worked out.

Switching to solar was something that we thought about for a few years before we did it and we didn't know exactly how to go about it. Then we found out there was a program where you lease the panels. You put out nothing upfront. The company that we use came out and our lease is through Sunrun. It's been a win-win for us. Our bills are $5 or $6 a month and there have been months where we had credits, so we had no bills. Usually, one month in the winter, we will have what I consider a normal bill and that's when the panels aren't generating any electricity.

I'm very happy with the way our solar panels are working to keep our air conditioning running 24/7 during this hot summer weather. We had a good understanding with Sunrun from the beginning. We first met up in December of 2021, and that was when I signed the contracts with them. They were here within about two weeks after that in the beginning of January and did the installation of the panels. We were told that we'd hear from them in a few months once they got the final permits approved in the county and the final inspection, and coordinated through PG&E before they turned on the panels.
In May, I hadn't really received much information of what was going on. I kept calling and writing to them to find out when it was going to happen because the summer months were coming. I really wanted some relief from the high bills, but it didn't happen. They kept saying that there was a hold up in the permits. They were waiting on the California permit to get approved, and there was some kind of problem with the title on my home. I live in Woods Creek Mobile Home Park, and it's in Jamestown. I own the home but not the land I sit on. So, I have to pay property taxes on the house and a monthly space rental fee. I owned a home previously and I had it in a family trust so that I was sole owner and trustee of the property. When the other house was sold and this one I acquired, I had them put it in the family trust name, which was under my father's name.
I think that caused some confusion in determining that I was the rightful owner of the house. Somehow, that got straightened up along the way and we waited on through the end of 2021. The agreement with Sunrun was that once the panels are turned on, they would pay the first six months. That was the perk to get you to sign up for it. So, we wouldn't have any PG&E bills for the first six months. I was still calling around in 2022. They finally said we are getting the approval. They worked with another company, which is called Bright Planet. Bright Planet is located in Contra Costa County. The technician lives in Pittsburgh, and then he had to drive to Livermore to get the company truck, and then from Livermore, up here. So, it was a long journey for all of this to get finalized, but he was very sweet, and talking with Bright Planet, they were always trying to answer my questions.
There is another company circulating Tuolumne County area called V3. They were installing some solar on the mobile home park next to us called Mill Villa. One of their installers was canvassing over this area to see if any of our homes here would adequate rooms to be able to have solar installations, and he noticed that our solar panels were on our house, but that the inverter was off. So, he tapped on our door and he talked to us for a while. I gave him information and he said, "Well, our company could remove those panels. We could install ours, and we could have you up and running right away, being that it's been over a year and you still have no power. That's ridiculous."
He wrote something to Sunrun that day, indicating that we were unhappy and that he was going to make a bid on our house and that. Then their legal department got involved and started writing back to me and talking about how they were going to sue us for $30,000 if we did anything like that, but they were sort of polite about it. They requested that we just hang on a little bit longer to let them get the permit straightened out, so that they could go ahead and turn the installation on. I got back in touch with V3 and I said, "Look, let's just back off. We're gonna stick with Sunrun. And if it doesn't happen, I can always call you again."
Bright Planet got it taken care of some time toward the end of March. Since March, I have been paying Sunrun a dollar a month. I've been getting billed by PG&E for their office accounting, establishing the net meter and their readings. So, that's about $6 a month to pay to PG&E and if I'm counting back, if they said that they covered April, May, June, July, August maybe, and then September, then by October, we'll be paying our agreed upon $82 monthly throughout the end of the contract with them. 82 is a whole lot better than seeing a summer bill of 175 and crawling upwards of what it was like last summer. It was awful last summer and it was very hard to make those payments on our income.
We did not have the battery offered to us at the time. In the extended year of wait period, they were finally able to become competitive and begin a new package like that for newer customers. When I saw that, I called them and I asked them about it. I wrote to them as well asking that I'd be put on the list for when they could begin a retro fit and a backup battery. The last I heard was they didn't think they were going to be able to offer that to us because at that point, PG&E was not going to approve that. Evidently, they're losing out too much on their income from the off peak-hours that we're getting charged. So if they can work that out, I do want to get the backup battery. As the way things worked along with us, it's been a fine plan. We've gotten what we needed when we needed it and we're happy.
We're thrilled you had a good experience, Rebecca! We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Thank you for playing such an important role in our solar community and for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

The benefits of using solar panels are not so obvious. Most contracts benefit solar companies first and users are left with a small margin for an error to collect gains if they decide to sign with them. Therefore the best option is to buy solar panels up front. But here is another problem: our houses can't last longer than 20 years without a major repair. In this case this is a roof that needs to be replaced. And if you have solar panels on it , it will cost you all the benefits gained from sighing with solar company (depending on the contract - from my experience Sunrun has the worse terms) to remove them. Also, how effective are solar panels if you decided to buy them so that you can re-use them on the new roof?

We purchased our system just over a year ago. It is financed with Goodleap, who already paid Sunrun. Sunrun used deceptive sales tactics by presenting the all popular 30% rebate check from the government as a guarantee. $26k that are salesman GUARANTEED we will get, at least three times as it is why we made the purchase. Over and over he promised we had nothing to worry about, we will get the check and then just pass it on to goodleap. If we kept the money, our payment will see a substantial increase.
The salesman had our incomes. He knew we owed no taxes. He most definitely knew that the “rebate” is not a guarantee as it’s a tax credit. It will only reduce or eliminate taxes owed. There is not, nor has there ever been a guaranteed check. Of course SunRun's response was to inquire if I had witnesses, because the likely first rule in customer service, BLAME THE CUSTOMER. KICK THE CUSTOMER WHILE THEY ARE DOWN. DISCOURAGE THE CUSTOMER FROM CONTINUING WITH THE COMPLAINT. AND LASTLY, we already have the customer's money.
Calling customer service is about worthless. Complaints must be made via email. We were told we could control which rooms and/or appliances have power during an outage, to reduce energy waste. Nope. The breaker box was moved to outdoors, behind our house along with the two Tesla power walls. During a recent inspection we were told we have no surge protection or filtration. This will cost me about $1400 more. $76000 spent with sunrun. They move and upgrade our breaker box and leave off a vital component.
The salesman also said that the electricians will inspect ALL of our home's electrical wiring to ensure safety as our house was built in 1978. This was all outlets, wiring, checking for any energy leaks. NOPE, just the breaker box filled with oddities. Our home has ZERO gfci outlets. It’s the first thing the recent inspector be out to our attention. Any respectable service would inform their customers of a safety matter that could cause a potential fatality, maybe even work with the customer in a proactive manner and devise a plan to bring things up to code. Again, this is what our salesman promised. Customer service after the fact has been nothing. Every time I attempt to communicate, I’m told I’m not authorized (I am) followed by a “how did we do” email TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS, the one that is not authorized.
Lastly we recently noticed my dad's name on the contract. The contract I believe was done in 2021, about 5 months later and after a lot of complaining, sunrun realized they never completed the inspection process. Of course, nobody made contact with us for this inspection and no concerns were brought to our attention. A professional would see potential problems and inform the homeowners. But safety does not seem to be a priority.
We now are paying about 6 cent more per kWh than before. We don’t get the full benefit of net metering because they didn’t want to overproduce power and put free energy on the grid. That should be our choice. Now because of this, I now have two energy bills, and I get ZERO benefit of SELLING OUR EXCESS POWER. We are lucky to get our power walls recharged. We have panels that seem to bend like a bats wing tip. We are about to see a $90 increase in our monthly payment because of the misrepresentation/deception on SunRun's part regarding the nonexistent rebate. We get made to feel stupid for not recording their salesman lie to us.
This salesman knew exactly what he was doing. He was SunRun's representative doing thing assumably the sunrun way. We are out $26k of promised money, $1400 for surge protection and power filtration, about another $1500 for gfci, and out who knows how many thousands of dollars for lost credits/sales back to the grids. Oh yeah, they promise of 25 years full protection of our system “comes with it”. Another lie, we were charged about $5400 more for that. The zero maintenance and worry free ownership was also a deceptive sales tactic. I mentioned to customer service about a week ago that I have not heard from sunrun since they monitor our system and maintain it, and we had a recent hail storm. I was wondering when we could expect to see someone. CRICKETS. I’m told at that point I’m not authorized.
If I’m not authorized, that would seem to invalidate all of the signatures on the contract in my opinion, you know, since I am not authorized. We want to be treated fairly and we want sunrun to provide us what the salesman sold us. Nothing more. Nothing less. I recently did a web search for sunrun complaints, and they are numerous and they are similar. Deception is a common theme.
Sunrun, the salesman is your agent making promises on your behalf. The right thing to do would be at a minimum to send a supervisor to our house, inspect our system, be honest and explain to me how I am wrong, or apologize for the shady salesperson and help make things right. We are all accountable for our actions. We did nothing to deserve being misled into spending so much money. We didn’t make up any stories, and we did not lie…but your salesman did. The salesman’s email no longer works or he is ignoring them. Customer service however does not show his as being with sunrun any longer. I wonder if the separation of employment has to do with his actions. I will likely never know. But sunrun still needs to honor his promises. We believed

So definitely go with a company that offers a power bank first. Second and most importantly, their customer service is HORRENDOUS! I've honestly had better luck getting airline customer service to work with me. The worst part about it is, Sunrun CS might work with you, might not, I wouldn't know because they don't return calls, emails, I had to get my case escalated through Twitter and the escalated case manager still ghosted me.
All I'm trying to do, is get my solar panels reinstalled, which let me not forget, they delayed my roof being replaced by 3 months because they couldn't get me on the schedule to remove. Then when I tried to setup the reinstall at the same time. they said "you must wait until the roof work is done" then turned around and told me to wait another SIX WEEKS when I told them the job would take 3 days so let's schedule the reinstall for a week out from the removal. They wouldn't work with me for that and now I'm in this predicament and no matter how many properties I own in the future, I'LL NEVER USE SUNRUN AGAIN! After me speaking with seven different customer service representatives and then finally a supervisor I got an answer saying that it was an internal error by Sunrun.
I spend hours on the telephone. And the supervisor told me she would look into and get back to me within seven days which she did not! After her saying to me “stop your dialogue!” And then her calling my elderly husband’s telephone leaving messages after. Then another Case manager taking the case over writing two emails to me. Updated on 10/09/2023: I recently had my roof replaced due to some hail damage. The solar panels needed to be removed and reinstalled for the repairs to be completed. When the installers came out to put the panels back on my roof, they were unable to complete the job that day. It took around a month before another crew made it out to finish the installation. I missed valuable time of solar generation. The crew that finished the installation left several items on the roof: a water bottle, roll of tape, cut of pieces of conduit and other debris. I have been patient and trying to work with Sunrun for months to get someone to come out and clean up. I would have happily picked up small items that fell on the ground and were missed by the crew, but I'm not climbing up on my roof to clean up after their crew. They have refused to come out and eventually told me that I needed to hire a third part to perform the cleanup. I'm extremely frustrated and cannot believe that a company would allow such sloppy workmanship.
Original Review: I had panels installed in the fall of 2021, in the first year of service they were out for several months and I had to have 3 different service calls to replace inverters that kept going out. The summer of 2022 I had a roofing company come out to investigate some hail damage on the roof and I agreed to have the roof fully replaced. I was unable to proceed with the work at the time because the solar system wasn't working so Sunrun was unable to remove the panels.
By the time the system was fixed it was too late in the season for the roofing company to do any work. We scheduled all the work to be done this spring which was fine. This past spring, the panels were removed and my roof was replaced. When it came time to have the panels reinstalled, I was told they were booked a month out! I would have expected that with the work being scheduled literally the previous year they would have provided a better timeline. I was stuck with the panels in my garage for over a month and a half.
I finally had a crew out to reinstall the panels the other day and they were unable to complete the job. I've yet to be contacted to schedule the rest of the reinstallation and I have no confidence that it will be done anytime soon. On top of that Sunrun is trying to bill me for time in which the solar panels were not on my roof. I have not had the panels long enough to really say there has been any major cost savings on my utilities. Between the system not working and all the other hassle, I regret ever agreeing to a contract.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Christopher. Let me start by saying we are so sorry to hear that the crew was unable to complete the job and we'd be more than happy to look into this further to ensure we can reschedule an appointment. Hello. I signed a contract with Sunrun in July 2022 and the solar panels were installed in November 2022. I still do not have solar power. I've tried repeatedly to contact Sunrun and always get an excuse for their delay. They will not coordinate with me about when I will start my service nor will they allow me to contact a manager or supervisor. I have given up and do not know where to go to get help. I am starting with ConsumerAffairs and will next contact the BBB and a local news station. Please help if you can. Thanks.

We got four estimates for solar panels, including Sunrun, and decided to go with another company. The Sunrun sales pitch was high-pressured, complicated, and condescending. We went with another company who explained the process more clearly, answered our questions more thoroughly and fit our budget better. Since then, I've had a call from Sunrun "to schedule a contract", a salesman come to the door to bad mouth the company we chose and five phone calls to my husband. We can't get rid of them!
We are so sorry to hear about your experience during your sales pitch, Sarah. Here at Sunrun, we always strive to give the best customer service to anyone who is interested in our product. The sales representative from Sunrun promised things and they are included in the contract but then Titan Solar who was the installer said they wouldn’t do what was in the contract (the sub electric panel) until we actually add the room onto our house. It took several weeks before they were installed and then didn’t pass inspection because of the wiring not according to the plan. Then had to be reinspected by county and then APS wouldn’t pass it because they didn’t install the sub panel in the plans they had given APS.
We called the company and no one there did anything but pass the buck to the sales representative who promised to call back and of course didn’t. The solar finally gets working and then we are now told that we have to pay $7.50 more each month because we don’t want to pay automatic payments (never told that in the sales process) after them not being very reliable so far with anything we have been told. We highly suggest that you steer clear of this company.

The company will promise you the world and back to get a sale. The promise warranties on the roof, installation, etc, etc. Late last year we finally got the panels turned on after months of back and forth with inspectors and the city, etc, etc. 2023 in Los Angeles has seen record rainfall but even so, the panels were supposedly installed by code and the roof was fully inspected beforehand to make sure it was done correctly.
The year prior in 2022 and year before that we had no issues with roof leaks, it was only after getting the panels installed that we had roof leaks! So we call them and the give use the roundabout of roundabouts, sending us to phone number 1 and 2, setting days to call back, etc, etc. And the do get a guy over, one of theirs to inspect the installation and as expected: no issues. OF COURSE THEIR lackey is gonna say that! Why wouldn't they!
So now after much back and forth they want to charge us 4000$ to remove the panels so WE can pay to get the roof fixed. Like what!? How do these companies get away with this! Promises of this and that beforehand, guarantees on your roof, etc, and then as soon as you actually have a problem, it's YOUR problem to fix THEIR mistake! Garbage company, honestly companies like this are why people will lose faith in green technologies. If you get a salesman at your door, slam it in their face immediately! They will promise you the moon and the stars to get a sale and if there are problems you are footing the bill and more!

Signed up at Costco for free estimate. They were on time and polite. It was a good presentation. They were by far the most expensive out of my several estimates and not the best production guarantee. Of course every supplier says they have the best panels but who really knows. One issue that stuck was that according the kiosk man at the warehouse the Costco cash card was supposed to be 10% of the system cost, so in our case it should’ve been between $4k-$6k depending on which size system and how many panels.
Even with the bigger system the cash card was only going to be $1800 and the salesman did not know anything about the 10%. I had to ask my wife if I was crazy and she indeed confirmed that’s what the rep at Costco told us. I didn’t push it because once I saw their cost and production guarantee I had already decided I was not going to choose Sunrun as the other companies had more to offer at the higher the price points in way of panels and production. Just something to be aware of.

When I say worst decision ever; the absolute worst decision. First it took them a year to finally get the system up and going. During that time there was hardly any communication. When they turn on the system there was no communication. I just started to receive a bill. The system was turned on August of last year. To this very day the system is underperforming and have required someone to come out to the home almost every month. I am now paying more for electricity than I was before I had Sunrun. I have to pay both the electric company and Sunrun for electricity.
I'm being told I have to pay the bill because I signed a contract. I was told that if I don't pay my account may be taken to debt collection. I have also been told that my account could not be credited until they fix the problem and the system is fully producing. It has been almost 9 months and they still have not been able to get it fixed. My question is how long do they intend to have me paying for a service that I am not benefiting from.

The contractor licensed to sell solar to me for Sunrun made untrue promises, as a result, I have a system that only produces 1/3 of my actual usage. This equates to the system only saving me enough money to pay for the lease. When I reached out to Sunrun in regards to the under generation, I initially received what equated to a brush off. An email informing me that my system was generating what it was supposed to generate, and that it was similar to other homes in my area.
When I pushed a little more firmly on the subject, I had two different company specialists inform me that Sunrun, supposedly, no longer services my area. However, other salespeople in my area still go through Sunrun for new lease agreements. They've made it quite clear that they don't care how their salespeople acquire new leases for them, or how misleading the sales were, so long as they get their money.

WOW, I cannot say enough GOOD things about SunRun. When we signed our lease with Vivint, they said that there would be no cost to remove and reinstall our panels. However, we didn't get that in writing, we simply trusted their word. We were naive consumers, and I'd like to think I learned my lesson. However, when I explained the situation here on this platform, I had an immediate response from Kimberly **, a member of SunRun's Escalation Department. She and I both did additional research, and though the evidence against my case was damning, she wanted to ensure my confidence in SunRun and agreed to waive the 5K fee for removal and reinstall of the panels. I could not be happier to be a SunRun customer now. She was responsive, helpful and pleasant to work with throughout the process. I'm happy to report that good faith, reputable business practices and customer service are NOT dead, at least at SunRun.

We originally signed a lease agreement with Vivint a few years ago. Everything went fine and as expected. Then Sunrun bought Vivint. We now need to replace our roof. Vivint said that they would remove and reinstall the panels at no cost. They followed through with several of our neighbors on this promise before they were bought out. Now, with Sunrun, have the panels removed for a roof install costs $170 per panel, which is over 5K. There was absolutely no warning of this change to the policy. We are furious. Do not buy or lease solar panels from Sunrun.

Sunrun's installer in my area is Freedom Forever. They were my first point of contact. They never told me to contact Sunrun, in fact they tried to fix the leaks 4 times and then told me the leaks were not from the solar install. They removed the solar panels so I could have the roof inspected (at no charge). The leaks were definitely caused by how the mounts were installed. They never notified Sunrun that I had roof leaks and that the panels were removed to inspect the roof. Once the right person at Sunrun got involved the situation was resolved within 3 weeks. This is after Freedom Forever jerked me around for 4 months.

I have 2 systems installed by SUNRUN on my house. This past November I found water leaks from one of the systems. Systems are less than 1 year and 2 years old. Supposed to be a 10-year warranty against leaks. Their subcontractor tried to fix the leaks 4 times over 2 months. After the last time I received an email that said the leaks were not from the solar installation. In February we had a snowstorm. With snow on the roof there were leaks where both systems are attached to the roof. The solar panels were removed so we could get the roof inspected. Four roofers inspected the roof and showed me how shingles were cut at the mount points and the flashing was improperly done allowing water to get between the shingles and the roof decking.
We now have interior ceiling water damage. The manager of the Subcontractor's office came and inspected the roof in March and agreed with the roofers. He also stated that one row of the mounts was installed too close to the lower edge of the roof. This causes the roof to leak when snow starts to slide off the solar panels. It is now mid-April and I have no resolution to the situation, and they do not answer messages. No plan from SUNRUN or the subcontractor to remedy the situation. VERY poor customer service.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR SUNRUN. I was given wrong information by my salesperson and if I had the information I have now, I would never have signed up. I filed a Misinformation By Sales Representative form A MONTH AGO and was told I would have a response in 5-7 business days. On the 8th day I reached out to the case manager just to find out my case was given to a new case manager which again was 5-7 business day response. Guess what, no response yet!
I own a 3 family with 4 meters and my salesperson said the solar would cover the entire property and it absolutely does not, so I'm paying more money than I was before having solar installed. Better yet, and this is my favorite, Sunrun sent a document for one of my tenants to sign when they're not the property owner or account owner, and if I was given the document I would have stopped pursuing Sunrun as a whole as it proved the solar would not be applied to the whole property. How could a "reputable" company 1 give false information, 2 send a document to someone that's not the property owner, 3 follow through with the installation, and 4 take over a month to get in contact with me? I want these panels OFF my property immediately.

We have had Sunrun solar panels for several years. Our HOA redid our roofs, requiring the removal of the solar panels, which Sunrun did within several weeks of our request. The roof work has been completed. We requested they reinstall the panels. They gave us a date of March 16 which was one month away. We were not happy with that much delay but accepted it. On March 16, nobody showed up to do the job (even though I called them on March 15 and was told they would come in the morning). We waited, and when they did not arrive, we called & were told they could not come that day & could not come until April 12.
On April 12 we waited for the installers. Again, no one showed up. We called and were told they could not come, & could not schedule us until May 18, another month. For each unkept appointment, we have cleared our calendar and waited for them to show up. They have not had the courtesy to call and tell us they were not coming. Not having our solar panels is costing us about $400 a month. We appreciate they may have some staffing issues, but waiting 4 months (we hope not longer) for the reinstallation is not very buyer friendly.

Late 2022 with heavy rains, experienced another leak in bedroom directly under solar install. Sunrun sent team, was told leak was repaired. Sadly with next large rainstorm, leak began again except worse pouring onto hardwood floor and causing damage. We had leak inspected by private company. Damages more extensive than initially told by Sunrun. Now dealing with mold. Inspection reports/photos/images of damage all provided to Sunrun. Despite knowing we have mold and health issues involved with living with mold, over past 4 weeks, no one has called to follow up. Now forced to get an attorney to deal with issue. This company has been a complete joke since day one. My biggest mistake was falling for the sales pitch of the rep that came to my door. He then disappeared and I was unable to get a hold of him as soon as he got his commission check. If I can rate negative stars I would. First off they took 6 months just to install the solar panels. They kept calling to reschedule. I had to take time off of work every time. Whichever crew they subcontracted to install damaged our home in multiple areas and when I called to have them come and fix it they stated the damage is a liability from install and there was nothing they could do. Next nightmare is the usage wasn't even covering what they told me they would cover so I was paying a leasing payment to SunRun AND I paid OVER $1500.00 to my Electric Provider. What is the point of having solar when I am now paying double what I would pay normally. Without the Solar I paid less than that for the WHOLE YEAR!
Now we sold the house and have been out of the house for over 3 months and have been charged 3 PAYMENTS WHEN WE AREN'T EVEN IN THE HOUSE!!! Every single time I call customer service they state it was my last bill and yet the very next month I get charged again. Once I mentioned seeking legal actions I was hung up on. I call back and 4 times in 30 min I get hung up on. Both myself and my escrow company has escalated this issue to a manager and have gotten no calls, no emails, NOTHING. I am at my wit's end with this company and you bet your sweet behind I will be seeking Legal Action against SunRun.

This is the most mentally and expensive mistake I have made. Should have done my research better. Instead of having a cheaper electric bill, I now have a regular gas bill, united power bill, not a $20 bill like they tell you. It's $106 around that range and now a mosaic bill that you purchase your panels through, I had my service connected in October. We are now in April. Service still does not work. The panels trips your breakers so electricity goes out in different parts of your house all the time, and all customer service says is, "We will have someone out to pacify you," and NO one ever shows up. They have called to reschedule appt because they cannot get a tech out and then say they will give you a credit that they never do as well, it's all lies. They tell you what sounds good to get you off the phone. I promise you'll be sorry. I've considered selling my house to get rid of the nightmare.

My wife and I had solar installed on our roof last Summer and our system went live in August of 2022. We opted for the lease approach instead of a purchase. So, we did not have to put any money upfront at all. Zero. I work in Finance/Accounting and generally feel that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. But in this case, it truly has turned out even better than we could have hoped for. We went with Sunrun, because they had a kiosk in Costco and we have used Costco's other services in the past, like for our car insurance and have been very happy with it.
Our salesperson, Ethan was great. He was very knowledgeable and I challenged him many times with lots of questions and he impressed me. I sent him lots of questions after and each time he was very responsive and helpful. They came out and inspected our roof, which was over 20 years old, to first confirm that it had at least 10 years of life remaining. We really didn't want to re-roof to do this, so we were very happy when they told us the roof looked fine. So, within a few weeks, the solar panels were installed, which took less than a day. What takes longer is to get the city out to do an inspection and get permits, and then for PG&E to connect the system to their grid and go live. They told us from start to finish it would be roughly 6 months, but in the end, when we went live in August of last year, it had only been about 3 months. And when it went live, we still hadn't spent a penny and they gave us a $750 debit card just for signing up.
Once it goes live, you pay Sunrun directly for the energy that your system generates at a set rate. For us it was about .24 per kilowatt hour/kwh. By contract, PG&E was charging us between .35 to .40 per kwh and their rates were increasing by 15-25% a year, which is outrageous. So, on day 1, our electric rates were almost 50% less than PG&E and the contract limits annual increases to those rates by Sunrun to no more than 2.9%, as opposed to the 15-25% increases we've been seeing from PG&E. Yes, it doesn't impact natural gas rates, as that still comes from PG&E, but we've just replaced using our whole home gas furnace with electric space heaters (also bought at Costco), except when we have our kids home (who are all adults now).
For my wife and I, we weren't even doing this to save money, we just felt we should use clean energy to do our part in combatting climate change. We also own an electric car, so it feels great to be charging it using the sun. Oh yeah, and these crazy storms we've just had and all that heavy heavy wind? No leaks to our roof and the solar panels are continuing to work great. We were a bit worried about that, watching all those trees come down and things flying everywhere, but so far so good.

One of the best things Sunrun does well is a detailed explanation of the Solar installation process from start to finish. And you can all have it on paper sent to your email where you can review it to your heart's satisfaction. A good roof condition is a plus. Their financing is very attractive. Sunrun is very active where I live. I have seen five homes with completed solar installations within two blocks around me. They are very busy here in Southern California & one has to be patient. I have been a Costco member for nearly 20 years. Getting Costco's additional warranty is a plus. And if you are a member, you get quite a bit of reward from Costco. Many of the employees of Sunrun I came across were professionals. One in particular, Ms. Nichole is exceptional. She kept me up to date even when I was out of the country, on the far side of Africa.

When asked, he confirmed that all the steps were cost free and I had the right to decide if I would hire SUNRUN only after the assessment was completed and the final cost of the services were presented for my approval. In spite of that he tried to collect a $500 deposit, that I did not agree to pay. With his assurance that there was no commitment, I consented to have my roof inspected to get an accurate estimate for the service costs. To check if I qualified for the financing, I informed the consultant the last four digits of my SSN.
Without disclosing any terms, without my consent, and my knowledge SUNRUN consultant, from his computer, signed a service contract of $43,114.86 as well as applied for bank loan on my behalf. I am pretty sure that this completely illegal. I refused to sign the bank loan I received by email and he did not insist further. The next day, I received a copy of the contract with SUNRUN, unlawfully signed by SUNRUN consultant, without my knowledge. When I saw the contract, I immediately requested its cancellation, which I had, according to its terms, the right to do within ten days. The consultant contacted me assuring that the contract was terminated.
Suspicious of his word, a couple of hours after talking to the consultant, I called SUNRUN Customer service. This was on April 07, 2023, at 12:45 pm ET. Then, I learned that the contract had not been cancelled as I was told. Again, I requested the customer representative to cancel it immediately and email a confirmation of the cancellation. He said he cancelled the contract and emailed me a confirmation. Two hours later, I had not received the confirmation. I called SUNRUN customer service again, around 2:45 pm. This time, the customer representative said it would take 24-48 hours to process my cancellation request.
On April 10, I called SUNRUN again, and the contract had not been cancelled yet. This time, the customer representative agreed to send me an email that stated that SUBRUN was still working in the cancellation, provided me a case number (**,) and said it would take several days to complete the process. Besides multiples calls, I have contacted Costco, wrote a letter to SUNRUN president Mary Powell, had the case escalated to the superiors of the SUNRUN’s consultant who frauded me, and I simply cannot get the requested proof of cancellation of a contract with SUNRUN, that I have never signed. No one seems to care. So, the only thing I have left is to share my dreadful experience with SUNRUN in social networks, file complaints about the company, and seek legal advice. If you are considering changing for SOLAR ENERGY, read SUNRUN’s reviews on ** and YELP.

What a waste of a year. That's how long it took to get the ball rolling. I had numerous representatives that never kept in touch. Come to find out 2 days before my installation that they changed my system without telling me and that my loan had expired and I would have to apply again for the loan and it would cost more money. Disappointed to say the least. I’m unclear how these people are still in business. Horrible and I do mean horrible customer service. I was told that their job was demanding and stressful why their turnover rate was so high. I had 5 reps that were useless. I had to take care of permitting myself cause they didn’t do it. Again horrible. Needless to say I didn’t get my system and I’ll be looking elsewhere.

Sunrun needs to tighten up their act a little bit when it comes to their people in customer service. After their rep did the presentation over the phone, there were a couple of things that I wasn't clear on, but it was explained in the fine print. I didn't read the whole fine print though, so I'm unclear on some financing programs. Other than that, the installation went smoothly and there were no problems. They did the panels in one day then they had to come back and tie up some loose ends with the box.

The sales rep was excellent. The only thing is -- and I understand that it's taken almost a year to get everything approved through Xcel Energy because there's so much demand -- we were a little frustrated with the six months it took for Xcel to finally put the meter in and get everything pushed. But Sunrun was right on top of it when I talked about it to them. We were always kept up to speed. Any time we had any question, we got a call almost immediately. It has been an incredible experience. I've already noticed quite a bit of difference in February versus December and January. I'm sure spring, summer, and fall will be gangbusters. We're very happy with Sunrun.

Enrolling with Sunrun was super easy. I gave my information to the guy at Costco. Then another guy called me, set an appointment, came to my home, and talked about how things might work. We decided to go ahead. Periodically, I would get a phone call or an email updating me with what was the latest. One day a crew was here, and they set it all up. They gave me a video for what to do when APS finishes their stuff to switch it on.
Initially, I thought the sytem was being more productive than it was because we've been in the home for one year and I got a refund of my deposit. I thought that was because I was creating so much power with my solar. But I realized it's not covering my full amount of electricity. It's not as productive as I was hoping. The salesperson deterred me from getting a battery system because he said it would be too expensive. I've got this app, and it's saving me money because I saved about $40 off my electricity bill. But my payment each month is gonna be about 120. So it’s increased my monthly bill electricity by about 80. I don't know if the reason it doesn't produce enough is because we underestimated how many panels I would need. I feel they undersold me, that they didn't give me enough panels and didn't sell me the battery system to do what I was hoping it would do.

Where do I start! A year and a half to finally get the system installed on 9/20. Run around in circles, getting electrical permits passed by calling all the time, no one knows what the other person is doing. 10 visits to the house with 0 knowledge of prior engagement. Approves 2 batteries and finally installs one that I was told city won’t allow. Lies… I know how an active system.
Damaged battery was installed on 9/20/22 with a promise to replace the following week. It’s 2-23-2023. No one answers. I have a lvl 2 charger sitting in my living room, no one calls to install. My sales rep pretends she lost her phone, both her phones and starts communication once a month from social media apps with last communication in November. It was 2019 when we decided to go with Sunrun. We had to add a second system last year because with the first system. we weren't getting enough coverage to cover all the electricity needs. I went back with Sunrun again. And I'm less than pleased with how that second experience turned out. The first system is 18 panels and the second system is 8 panels. And the way we decided on that was based on the electricity bills and what we thought our roof could accommodate. We took a large tree down, which is why we were able to put additional panels on this past summer. It took months of me contacting them to get them to come out and figure out whether or not I could put additional panels on the house. I kept telling people, "Look, there's trees down. We have a new roof that we can access to put the panels on." I've had different people contact me. I hardly was ever able to speak to the same person twice.
Wen we finally agreed on the panel installation, we were very eager for me to get it paid for and get it installed. So that installation got delayed a bit. They finally got it installed in July. I don't exactly understand what the problem was, but we never got a permission to operate until December. And it was not all on the City of San Diego side. The City of San Diego came out and had to come out three times to inspect what Sunrun had done, because they didn't have it right.
They didn't have the system connected properly. They didn't have the labels done properly, the way that the county or the city requires it. So, they had to come out multiple times. There were multiple delays. I kept getting repeated email notices saying that, "Your system is ready. Go out and turn it on." I was unable to do that, in spite of the fact that I am a smart person, contacted them, had a horrible interaction with the customer service person who treated me like I was an idiot. It took three times to get people to come out here before they figured out how to turn the system on.
When I finally got someone who was reasonable, which was in early December to come out and turn the system on, he said, "I've got it on. But there's something wrong with one of your panels." One of the panels. It took from December until two days ago when finally Sunrun called me. They sent someone out two weeks ago and were, "Your roof is too steeply and it's a two-person job."
Ten more days went by, they sent people out the end of this past week. They called me back and said, "We figured out what was wrong with the panel that wasn't working. It wasn't plugged in. We're really sorry. It's just when they installed it, they must have not plugged the panel in." I was, "Are you kidding?" I've been paying for electricity from SDG&E with panels sitting on my roof since July not working until a couple days ago. It's the worst customer service I've had in any experience that I've had in dealing with multiple homes.
Hi Linda. Thank you for reaching out. We're sorry to hear your second experience with us was frustrating. If there is anything we can do to help and make sure you have a better experience, please don't hesitate to reach out! Have a wonderful day!

I had an appointment with Sunrun and the rep didn't show. That was kind of disappointing because I had arranged my calendar to talk with her. She said she was doing a wellness check, and I said, "Great, I love that." But then, she didn't show. The installation was great. There was one flaw, and they came right back and fixed it. The guys on the ground seemed great, but I wanted to have a conversation about the bill. I got the bill from PG&E, and it covered electricity and gas, and I haven't straightened that out. So, I knew there was a conversation to be had.
I recommended Sunrun to my good friends, and they have paid off their house and their car. They even opened up a brand-new credit card to establish some credit, but Sunrun was awful with my friends. So, I don't recommend them to anybody else in my neighborhood. Also, I ran into the fellow who was selling Sunrun at Costco again, and I told him I was upset, and he took my name and number. He put it in his phone, and he said he would follow up, and he did not. Other than those, the equipment itself seems fine.

Enrolling with Sunrun was very smooth. The time frame of installing and getting the system up and running took two to three times as long as they promised. It was always scheduling. The blame was it was ComEd. Then, when I called ComEd, they said that it wasn't scheduled. There was he said, she said and it was very frustrating. Once I pushed the issue, everything got scheduled quickly and was taken care of within two weeks in getting the system on. Then, it took another month and a half for ComEd to flip the switch.
So, my biggest gripe is you have to get approval from the utility company that you can get solar in your area. Once they gave their condolences and they approved the specs and the city approved it, ComEd should flip the switch right away. We shouldn't have to wait three to six weeks for them to flip the switch once it was already pre-approved and it was inspected from the building department or electrical department of the city of Chicago. So, I feel that ComEd and Sunrun work together, but ComEd wanted one or two more billing cycles.
I had the system set up on my roof and I couldn't use it for two months at the end of the summer and fall until winter came, and then they flipped the switch. That was frustrating on my end. To be fair, Sunrun gave me a courtesy credit for that, but they gave it to me an average of what the solar panels generated. The frustrating part is the solar panels didn't generate them at what it could have if they started two months ago. So, they took the average from my slower time of the year to base the compensation. If I did it the peak season, I would've got about three times the amount of money to offset it and that wasn't the case.

Enrolling with Sunrun was easy, and from start to end, they said installation would take up to six months, which it did. They had to go through the village and get inspections and permits. That took some time, and I realized the village I live in is a pain to deal with. Overall, it was good. With ComEd, their prices keep going up, and this compensates for it. On my account, I can track what I'm producing every day through the 12 months. As long as there's sun out, you can produce solar power, but if it's cloudy, you're not producing any. If you don't produce enough, they re-evaluate it for six months, then you put more panels on, which means you'll produce more solar power. Definitely look into Sunrun. If you're looking to lower your cost, this is one way to do it.

Sunrun's reps were super professional, especially the sales rep that we worked with. Once we got to our other person, they put us in charge of our account, fell off some with communication. Other than that, Sunrun was very professional about all of it. They looked at what our annual usage was and tried to at least somewhat match that annual usage. And they allowed us to push back and say we don't need that much or we would like more. It was a six-hour install in total. They came in, knocked it out, and left. We put the panels on one side of the house where you don't see them. That was of one hope, that we didn’t have anything that was visible. The app's downfall is that it doesn't have what you have consumed, so it means a guessing game. But the app shows you the last day and the last week of what you've produced.

Also, we have the product at our home but I'm not sure if we're saving anything because we still have to pay for it each month. When we started it up, there was a problem with our battery discharging, and it took about a week. After that, everything started working fine. The installers came out on time and did a pretty decent job, but there was a mix-up in the panels because they couldn't get the original panels that I contracted for because of shipping delays. They gave me better panels, but the permit was based on the old panels, so it was probably a month and a half delay before we could get it activated. The sales guy that we had was awesome throughout the whole process. He answered all our questions promptly. Whenever we send emails or give him a call, he was readily available to answer our questions. If he didn't have an answer, he went and got it and brought it back to us. The only thing I didn't like was, I have a flower bed on the side of the garage and they didn't take any precautions to protect that during the installation. They destroyed a lot of my flowers.
Also, they changed the route of how the lines were supposed to go. They had to dig a hole straight across the yard so it left a really ugly look. We had to fill that in. The other thing was we had a car in the garage and when they tore the roof off, debris fell all over the car in the garage. We weren't thinking that the debris was gonna fall through or else we would have moved the car. But once we discovered it, they put a tarp over it. Cost-saving-wise, I feel like we shouldn't have got Sunrun because I feel like it would have been cheaper without it. I had panels put on two times. The first experience was great but my experience last year to put on the second batch on a different part of the roof was not good at all. I called the original guy and he said they would love to help me again. He sent me somebody else and they gave the estimate. We said, go, and we had a timeline. It didn't start promptly. We didn't pass inspection three times.
Also, nobody asked for payment in the very beginning, probably because I was already a customer and I paid the first ones. I did not pay at the beginning. Then, it was summer and I was not producing. They were costing me money. They said I hadn't paid yet. Finally, collections called and said I was supposed to pay at the time that they were installed. I said I'm not paying until I'm producing. The panels were sitting up there and we couldn't pass inspection. The rep called a second time and I told her again I was not paying and that if they send me to collection for this, I have lawyers in line ready to go. She never sent me to collections for that. I told them the minute I'm producing, I will pay in full and that's how it went down. It was just incompetence, the whole way around, and it was a very painful experience. But now, I have gone online several times to check and I am producing. It took a while but we're there so I'm happy now.

I had Sunrun in my previous home 13 years ago. I sold that home. When I moved, I didn't have solar here, so I called them again. The first experience on my previous home was great. The experience with this one, they scheduled installation and then they failed to show up twice. I was very unhappy about that. They showed up on the third visit, but it was at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and there was no way in the world they could get the job done in three hours. They worked a little bit that day. Then they came back the next day and they worked till they got the job completed. I contacted someone at Sunrun. He promised me a $500 Visa card for my troubles, which I never received. I emailed them several times and never got a response.

I was told by the sales rep I was supposed to get something, but he quit. I talked to another sales rep but he never called me back. The person on my job who referred me received his referral fee, but I never received anything. I was having problems with getting the system hooked up, but Sunrun eventually took care of it. The person that was doing the calls to set up the appointment was very rude to me. She was telling me when they'd be at my house. I told her, "I don't just let anyone in my house when I'm not there 'cause you hold the sole responsibility, and you may want to ask me what works for me and not tell me when someone's gonna be there."
They were too unprofessional. I've been in sales most of my life and I've never approached people in that manner. I brought that up to the sales representative and he may have brought it to her 'cause she didn't do it again. But the technician would say, "We can just come in your house. You can give us the code." That was rude. I don't give out codes to my house. I have another house that my separated wife lives in. I told her I wanted to put solar panels on that one. I saw her the other day. She said, "I've been trying to get the sales rep to come out, but he only wants to do a phone call." He was rude to her. She's getting frustrated.

Sunrun fulfilled what they promised me. The first part of the enrolment was really good. I had a salesperson that came out, gave me the whole illustration, told me all the bells and whistles, and he explained everything great. He was very informative. He made me feel real comfortable. He answered all my questions. Initially, we were told that we were gonna get our solar done by a certain date, which we did. They did it a week prior, which was great. I had a great experience with that, but it took close to three months before they fired it up. During those three months, I had to incur my regular electric bill. On top of that, I was paying Sunrun a monthly fee of 278 every month. They didn't tell me that I was gonna have to be paying double on everything. So, I wasn't expecting that. That was a hardship on me.
I thought for sure I was gonna be done with SCE and here I was getting bills every month because my solar system was on the roof but it wasn't online yet because of some paperwork that they had to send with the city. The planogram didn't coincide with the plan, and that part was a headache because I had to pay for electricity and solar. I check what's being produced energy-wise on my app, which is on my phone. I like the site a lot. It’s self-explanatory. Overall, my experience has been really good. Everything's online. Everything’s producing solar. I'm very satisfied with the product. I would encourage others to go through Sunrun.

The Sunrun representative I worked with was very responsive. They were very attentive to getting my job signed off. They got the stuff installed. They had it inspected. There were some issues on it with the DOB billing department. But they came back and addressed the issue. However, I had to put an electric outlet for my car as part of my construction. It eats up some of the power that I'm getting from the solar panels. What they did was they took the past usage and said, “Okay. Here is what we can give you.”
Then going forward, the city required me to have solar panels on my roof and it also had me to put an electrical station for a car charger. Now that I have an electric car, it bumps it up another 20% on power usage. It was not taken into consideration. Now when I would look at the bill, I'd say, “Why aren't I getting the savings I thought I'd be getting?” It's because of my car usage and that needs to be explained a little better. But otherwise, it's been very good.

My daughter-in-law just said people were walking on the roof. We didn't go crazy about it. But it would have been nice if they said something to somebody. They also sent me the directions on how to turn the system on. I'm 72 years old. I would have liked it better had they come over and shown me what to do or just told me what not to do.
We also said that we would do the automatic deduction. They would take it out of my checking account every month. But that wasn't even set up. So, it cost me 750 for the three months that I didn't do that. There was also no place to call somebody. I called this number and they would say, "I'll get back to your representative and I'll let her know," which they never did. Then when I would go online, it would always be, "You can check our question and answer section." But, I don't wanna do that. I want to talk to somebody.

I had solar panels installed years ago on a partial house. They couldn't use the back of the house at that time because of the way the solar panels were made. The system doesn't do the job. I called Sunrun up and they came out. They did a full survey again and they said they can put panels on the back of my house. I asked why couldn't they do that 10 years ago and they explained. The guys that came up that did the install were a great group. I was one of the lucky ones that got to have a good group of guys that work well with each other. They knew what they were doing. The installation plan was not correct so it took them a couple of hours to get that squared away. Once they got the plan in place, they went up in a day and a half.
You can go online and they show you a daily information. My issue was, from the time they installed it to the time my local township approved it, I lost the whole summer when I would have got the most benefit out of it. My electricity bill is way down. The system's working but it's not producing enough to overcome what the house uses because it's wintertime and there's no sun.

UPDATED: I paid $800 towards my balance within the last 30 days. Sunrun will not apply payments to past due invoices. I'm not even 30 days late on February's payment. I think really owe around $250 perhaps. Well, they deactivated my account yesterday. What a nightmare. Solar City put me on a payment plan to catch up! I had Covid twice and couldnt work. Sunrun cant help with this? I guess not.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I became a Sunrun customer years ago with no issues. I got behind on bills having COVID twice this year. I owed Sunrun just over a $1000. I paid $600 towards my balance this month to prevent deactivation. I asked for a payment plan since Tesla gave me one due to my illness. A supervisor called me today and said that Sunrun doesn’t offer payment plans and that regardless of my payment that my system will be scheduled to be deactivated after Jan 30 if I didn’t pay around $750. His position was absolute with no empathy. The cost of living isn’t easy especially being ill with COVID! I lowered my balance within the 120-day allowance before disconnection. The billing clerk told me by paying today that it would give me two weeks before deactivation. However, the supervisor said that isn’t true. This is very stressful.

When the fellow came out and installed the meter on August 25th of last year was when there was the ability to record the difference. And when the Sunrun app became operational the day after, so it would give you your daily generation. Because August and September were still peak production months, I was surprised about how it offset the electrical bill for that first couple months. I was impressed.
Sunrun's communication was good. But it could have been better. I sat down with the sales rep back in March of 2022. She probably didn't know all the specifics. But I was under the impression at the end of March of 2022 that the installation process would have occurred a bit more rapidly. And there was a lack of communication on as to far as when all this would happen. From signing the contract in the early part of March of 2022 to having a fully functional system at the end of August of 2022, it took longer than what I expected.
The crews that came out to install the system were good. We didn't get the initial installation until July. They came out, put the panels on and put everything that they could together. The inverter was not available until a month later. Another crew came out and finished the installation. And that was at the first part of August. And it kind sat there for three weeks until Xcel decided to make an appearance.
I understand that there are delays with permitting and with supply chain issues etc. But a bit more detailed communication and say, "Hey, we got your contract. We got this. Don't expect anything for three months. We're not gonna be scheduling things out for three months." The next week, one of their planning guys showed up to do a house inspection to make sure that the roof was capable of carrying the load, that the electrical service was would be adequate. So I figured, "That was pretty quick." The guy was out here the next week. But after that, things dropped off and I didn't hear anything until the project manager called me in June and said, "Will July 8th work?" And I said, "Well, I guess so."
The system was designed to produce so much power and that Sunrun guarantees that their system will produce that. That's not gonna happen until August of this year to see in fact if their production estimate is gonna actually be accurate. But they sent out these little maintenance tips. It says, “When your panels get dirty, spray them off with water from the ground. We really don't want you going up on the roof and endangering yourself and everything,” which is good advice. But they did not mention snow removal. We'll get more snow than typical in Denver. Also, it has been sticking around longer than it usually does.
I purchased a Poly snow rake basically because I'm not gonna get up on the roof with snow on it. It snowed in December 28th and it snowed here about a foot. And for 10 days there, there was no production for me because there's no sunlight to get through the snow. I'm now able to clean those panels off from the ground, so I'm not endangering myself. But that works well. Maybe mentioning that in their maintenance brochure may be helpful. As soon as I cleared the snow off the panels, they started producing again. So, we're still good.
I've recommended Sunrun to several people. I have two daughters and I showed them my electric bill after the installation was complete. They were shocked. I also recommended it to the neighbor across the street. She came over and asked how it was working. Also, my stepson was in from Florida, and he asked if Sunrun operated in Florida. And I found out that they did. So, I sent him the contact information.

We didn't do enough homework on it ourselves.
I have a $5,000 Edison bill and I am still paying for my solar panels because they refused to help. Their reason being that we should have checked the equipment. We had so many people come and go. One of the guys came on Saturday morning. He was a trainee. I overheard them telling him what to do. The process with Sunrun took a long time. They couldn't connect the system with ComEd and my HOA went through it before they activated my system. There were a lot of moving pieces and looking back, it was expected that it took that long, it just felt like it took longer than it should have. Other than that, my experience with Sunrun was great. The guys who came in went up top to the roof and installed the panels. Everything was seamless and went exactly according to plan. They cleaned up after themselves and they were pretty much done within a few hours which was the amount of time they wanted it to take.
I have also noticed a lower monthly bill and so far, I'm saving a good amount of money. But I didn't realize that I'd be getting a separate bill from Sunrun for the rental of the equipment. That was something that I misunderstood as I thought the rental equipment was also included in the ComEd bill. But that's not a big deal. They could also improve their communication on when you'd start seeing x amount of dollar decrease based on the amount of panels they put in. A little articulation on how much you're expected to save would be better. Apparently, you're going to save 50 bucks a month from your electric bill, but the rental of the panels was 20 bucks a month. So, the savings is really going to be $30 overall.

Albuquerque, New Mexico. $26,000 regret. AVOID. My system was installed on April 25, 2022. The installers did their work and left. No discussion. I was working in the home the entire time. I went out and noticed there were two issues.
1. They installed equipment in an unapproved location. The site plan that they gave to me did not show installation of electrical equipment on my patio where my kids play. They installed one of the pieces there despite there being sufficient room per electrical code on the other side of the house around the corner where they installed the other components.
2. They accidentally knocked my irrigation control box off of my house. Instead of saying anything, they just balanced it back up on the holes, not installing it, so essentially hiding their damage and did not say a thing.
Since then. So 9 months, I've had multiple representatives from Sunrun come out to review this issue. I've also have supervisors review this issue virtually. All of them have claimed fault and have promised to move my one random component. It is now January of 2023 and there is no movement. In fact, multiple cases have been open with Sunrun. The cases will show open for months and then randomly be closed without resolution. No one can tell why. Instead they will open a new case and the circle begins again.
Note that to fix this issue, it would take Sunrun less than one hour. It is literally 10 screws maximum. I would do it myself however the Sunrun warranty explains that all work must be completed by Sunrun, so naturally I want to protect my 26-thousand-dollar investment, not that I have confidence in their warranty or service. Aside from this. They advertise being able to capitalize on the state tax credit however they refuse to provide the necessary documentation required by the state in order to claim the credit. Avoid.

But I know that our roofline has some weirdness. It's not a straight roofline. So it may not be ideal. But this was one of those things where they collect the energy, then they use and sell the energy, and then they give us a discount on the energy that we're using. But that was not what I was looking for. I was looking for an arrangement where I get to use the energy I recoup, and then I sell back whatever I don't use at a significantly discounted price. I wasn't looking for something where I was going to save six cents a kilowatt.
I did the math and I was gonna save about $600 a year. It was an estimate and it wasn't based on reality. But that's not enough for me to go through this whole process of doing it. Then either next year or the year after that, we're gonna have to redo the roof, which means I gotta pay to take the stuff down, put a new roof on, and then put it back. The math didn't seem to work out. Now, I have other friends in town that have done solar installations. But they're using the energy themselves. Candidly, I'm looking for that type of situation.
Sunrun was responsive, helpful and informative. It was all good with the people that I met with and spoke to. But they were trying to rush me through. They wanted to run a credit report. They needed me to sign on the dotted line for things and they would say, “Oh, no, no. This is just so we can kind of have somebody come out there, but we don't send somebody out there to do the formal measurements and the formal calculations until we run a credit report and we do X, Y, and Z and we have you sign this sign that.” I wasn't comfortable but they kept pushing that. Then they even called after that. So it started off very good but then it quickly shifted once they sensed that I wasn't all in.
We are so sorry to hear about your experience, Marc. Here at Sunrun, we always strive to give the best customer service to anyone who is interested in our product. This company should not be in business. They did a great job selling us the product, however once installed, the panels were not working correctly. Their customer service has been despicable. We called them numerous times to come and look at the panels. Finally, they came 3 different times. The first 2 times, the technicians were completely clueless and could not conclude the issue. During their third visit, they determined their converter was fried.
The installation happened in April 2022. It is now January 2023. Even though we are not technically receiving service, we continue to be charged $111 per month. Customer service says "there is nothing we can do." They say this is because there is no inventory. YET, they somehow have enough inventory to continue installing for new customers. The contract is set to run for 35 years and we are locked in with no way out.
This is a completely BACKWARDS policy and should be ILLEGAL. They cannot even pause the payment. They say that once they gain inventory and replace the panels, they will reimburse the money that was taken for the time service was not being provided. This is hard believe based on what we have seen so far. DO NOT sign up with Sun Run. It is a complete scam. Something we have never encountered before.

When I submitted to get a quote from Sunrun, a consultant instantly called me and set up a meeting. Her name is SHALIMAR **, the solar consultant from sunrun. She did explain a lot of things and when I asked her what's the difference if I get it from Costco or from them online, she said there are just different "credits" that they offer and she can definitely offer me some $$$ credit afterwards. All these conversation was recorded I believe. Here comes 3 months later, all the installation and all are in place, I kept on following up on her, text and email -- nothing, and she does not response anymore. Be aware of this lady, she's so talkative and all to get you but when they get you, they disappear into thin air.

Updated on 01/11/2023: I had written a "not so very rosy" review of Sunrun on the 01/03/2023. On the 01/04/2023 Krystin from Sunrun responded by apologizing, and they have a "ton of apologies" in their store but no meaningful action comes out from them. I sent her a private message and that was it, No phone calls, no emails. No response at all from Sunrun. You just cannot shame them enough to make them tick. I had started the process of getting a technician on the 12/03/2022. It is 38 days already. My house is leaking like a sieve and Sunrun doesn't care two hoots about you or your property as the only care they have is to make a sale. After a sale,... crickets. I would not install their panels even if they were the only solar company left on this planet and even if they were totally free. And I still await a technician to show up.
I knew our warranty was for 10 years. The lady insisted it was for 5 years. I asked them for a copy of my contract. If the warranty was for ten years Sunrun would be responsible to repair the leak. Surprisingly the contract could not be found for 7 to 9 days. When it was finally sent to me it was differed with what I had paid for. I insisted the warranty was 10 years but the lady said otherwise. I reminded her I got a quote in September 2022 from Sunrun to add more panels and the warranty is 10 years but she would not agree.
I must have contacted Sunrun almost 7 times between 12/07/2022 to 12/27 20222 before I finally got an appointment on the Thursday 12/29/2022 for a technician to come remove my five panels so that my roofer can come check my leak. I was promised a technician for 17 January 2023. If you do the math that is 40 days to get a technician from Sunrun. With the heavy rains, we are experiencing for the last three weeks all my ceilings, carpets, bedding, documents, etc. are damaged just because Sunrun could not provide a technician for 40 Days. Getting Sunrun was my biggest mistake in my lifetime.

We have had Sunrun solar system for little more than a year. Everything ran great until last night. Multiple Bedrooms that connected to the Sunrun Solar System lost power. I contacted Customer Support, and they said they would not do anything until we could get electricians to verify the problems in the Sunrun Solar systems, including power breaker panels. If you look at their warranty or website, they say "worry-free" warranty, which covers equipment repairs and replacement, including parts and labor. I am so disappointed, I wish I had known this ahead before jumped both feet in.

On May 16, 2022, Sunrun removed my solar panels for new roofing and were scheduled to reinstall the panels on June 28, 2022. The unexperienced install team was a complete disaster-after installing and uninstalling several times over a period of three months, they completely destroyed my brand-new roof. I was informed the entire team was fired and Sunrun paid for another new roof. After the new roof was completed in November, I reached out to Sunrun to request new panels to be reinstalled as the old ones have a lot of wear and tear due to the unexperienced team throwing them around and scratching them through our concrete driveway.
As of today's date, I have yet to speak to a manager who can assist me in resolving this issue. The solar panels are still sitting in my yard and now Sunrun is billing me when there is no energy generating from the panels. I have spoken to over 5 different people and now a new case manager name John who assured me his manager will contact me and of course she has not. This has been the most stressful situation ever! I just want someone at Sunrun who has the authority to resolve my issue or let me out of this contract so I can go with someone else. I’ve never had such horrible customer experience under Vivint Solar-wished they never sold the company to Sunrun.
