Our sales rep, Richie, was a great guy. He was honest and straightforward. I told him our bill was between 75 to $150 a month all the time, but I have a backup Generac system that'll run the whole house. I split it in half, so the battery backup system is running half the house, and my generator system the other half. One thing I really enjoyed about their service techs, they were very professional. They did such a great job, and they were nice and neat. Also, the panels I got are made in Germany. I don’t care if they’re made in Taiwan or Vietnam. I just didn’t want China stuff. Even my batteries are made in South Korea. So, I’m happy with that. The only problem I had was it took three months to get the battery, and that was out of Sunrun's hands.
My whole experience with Sunrun was great. Everybody's been happy and very polite. They’re great people. I also get nice emails all the time. This is the first time I’ve ever had solar, and one question I forgot to ask was how to clean my panels. Three weeks ago, I got, “This is how you clean your panels.” They also offered us money if we recommended them, which we have. Friends of ours are getting the same thing we have. We live in a rural area, and when we get monsoon season, we always lose electricity, so everybody up here wants battery backups.
We're leasing the system, so we're paying a bit more than my highest electricity bill that I've ever had. I wanted it for when our electricity goes out. We live up in hunting country where everybody hunts, and we lose electricity, which happens every year, about seven times a year for 20 hours. We've got elk in our freezers and I don't want to lose all that meat. I want my freezers to keep running when we have no electricity. That’s the reason why I wanted the system. My well always runs and my air conditioner runs as well.
My cousin lives down in Peoria, Arizona. He doesn't have the battery backup, and he saves a lot of money. Having a battery backup, I'm gonna save more money because I'm producing my own electricity, and right now, it's a nice, sunny day. It’s not hot, and I can go out in my garage and my battery's charging and producing electricity for my house. I'm not charging off of aps. I’m perfectly happy with the system so far, but I haven't gotten a bill from Sunrun or aps yet. I understood, the first month or two, they have to adjust with the previously owed bill, but I haven’t received anything from Sunrun yet about a bill. I don’t have good internet service out here, so I prefer a paper bill.
You brightened our day, Carl! Our goal is to provide you with the best solar service possible, and we're delighted to hear that you had a good experience with us as you do your part to keep the earth clean. Please send us a private message so we can resolve your billing concerns. Thanks!

I liked dealing with the sales guy. He explained everything pretty well, so it was a positive experience. But when customer service emails me and I reply, I don't get anything back so I usually have to call, and that’s not convenient. That would be a very big negative for me, but everything else is positive. They installed the system and then told me that they would do the inspection. The inspection happened and then we got the approval. They said, “Okay. You can turn it on.” One switch says, “On,” and one says the configuration to be in. But I never got a reply back.
A month later, Sunrun sent me an email saying that they were going to send a technician because they were not getting good reading. It turned out that they never replied to me so the switch that was supposed to be on was never on. But I never got a confirmation on whether or not that was the switch. The lack of replies was a little disturbing to me. But once they do reply, they're really good at explaining everything.
Thanks for reaching out, Joe! We're delighted to hear you had a good experience with us, but we're sorry there was an issue with communication. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. Please send us a private message with your address so that we can look further into this. Thank you!

All started off well, seemed like a good choice but a few months in had a glitch with no production for 4 months which ended up leaving me with a true-up balance of a few thousand dollars with my electric provider. I thought it would not be a problem but the 100% performance guarantee from Sunrun only kicks to measure output at 2 years. I made the mistake of leasing vs buying and I can't buy now until the 5-year mark. Very unfortunate but this year I paid more for my electric than I did before I had solar (contract fee and electric company fees). Just be aware of details before your sign. I would never do this again knowing what I know now.

The only thing I did not like is how Sunrun promised the tax rebate. They could be a little bit better help because I was unsure and when I did my taxes this year to get that tax credit, I had such a hard time because I didn’t know what to expect, like where to go and what form. Even the accountant didn't know all the procedure. But other than that, it was good. My electric bill normally is lower in winter but I'm paying Sunrun for the installment plus, I'm paying the electric bill. So, I haven’t seen any savings yet. If you're a new homeowner who are considering going solar, you should wait one year and see how your bills go because I did it a little sooner.

The whole process took about a couple of months. But the only glitch was at the end with the authorization for Edison to Sunrun to turn the power on. It was about a week's delay. But everything seemed to be pretty simple. Everything was done virtually, either by email or text. I only talked to the Surnrun representative one time.

SunRun acquired Vivint who I originally got solar with in last 2014. I had a total roof replacement in July 2021. My panels were removed and put into a warehouse. Once the roof was completed, I schedule SunRun to place the panels back on my roof. It took until September for a team to come out to work on my roof. The first appointment was September 7th. I received over twenty email reminders and text about the appointment. No one showed up or called on September 7th. I had to call and wait on hold for over 2 hours to let me know that no one would be able to come out to the house that day. I was rescheduled for September 18th and no one showed up again. My appointment was rescheduled to September 30th.
When the team arrived they placed mounts on my brand new roof and then informed me they could not find my panels after the mounts were place. From that day until now I have not been able to get this resolved. I have a brand new roof and mounts with no panels. I am being billed monthly for no service or solar (averages $45-$100 per month) but I do not have panels nothing is hooked up to my electric as it was removed when I had my roof replaced. I have called, emailed, gone to the BBB and requested several times removal of the mounts and fixing my roof or panels and still receive no response. Vivint was wonderful. Sun Run not so much. Do your research before choosing a company.

The process took longer than I was expecting. They ran into some hiccups with the town I live in. They were having a hard time getting the permits and that was kind of a hassle. Originally, their timeframe was around three months but when all was said and done, it took about five months. But the system has been up and running now for a little while and with the daylight savings now, we are starting to see the payoff.

Right now, the problem I have is I don't have any idea how the system is working because I don't receive any production on my electricity bill. I don't know who's in charge to let me know what's going on, how the system should be working, and how I gotta pay it back. But my concern is my reduction in electricity has never gone down. I still pay the same amount of money from day one. Right in the beginning when Sunrun installed the system, it was not working and then they let me know they wanna go to my house again and look at it. They checked it in the middle of February and it’s now working. They did everything quickly. They didn't make me waste time. I’m happy with that. But I'm not happy that I don't have any idea what's going on.

I am now in contact with the State of Nevada Attorney General's Office regarding failed promises to provide completed solar energy to my property. I have tried months to resolve these problems with Sunrun, my rep. other agents, Freedom Forever (their installation contractor), etc. Most of my calls go to countries outside of the United States, mostly to the Philippines, some to countries in South America, occasionally to the state in the U.S., Texas and Colorado, none go to a local rep. As I am writing this complaint, I also tried to call their Customer Service Department. The call went to the Philippines. Nice person, but I thanked her because she cannot resolve a problem thousands of miles away. This has been somewhere between 15 and 20 calls made in the last four months to resolve issues. All say they will get someone to contact me, none have.
The worst problem happened this week. I am now receiving bills and so is my tenant (same bill) for power that is not being credited to my house. I believe this could be (legally) described as fraud. This is a warning to anyone who might want solar energy--which I totally believe in and support--please, investigate Sunrun before you sign any contracts. I hope the Attorney General can resolve my problems with Sunrun in Nevada.

In August 2021 I paid for Sunrun to move the conduits on my roof, since I moved my electric box to the side of the house. Because I'm installing a sunroom on my backside, the conduits need to be moved to where the electric box is. Each time I contact Sunrun I always get the same answer "someone will contact you within 3-5 business days", but no one contacts me! I have contacted them once per month since September, and always get the same answer. Now the sunroom is going to be install in April and this conduits needs to be moved by then. When they installed the system, it leaked when the first rain hit. But they repaired it immediately. I got off the phone with them not too long ago and it was good. But when I used their “Chat now” online, they told me they would call me within three days. I don't know what “Chat now” means if they're gonna call me in three days. Going solar saved me a little money, except for the True-Up. The solar bill would be $10 a month sometimes. But the True-Up was horrendous. It was almost like what I would have paid if I just stayed with the grid. You'd end up paying 2,500 at the end of the year sometimes.

Sunrun was good. But there was a miscommunication with the Salt River Project to get connected and all the processes between those two. The panels should have been installed on November but they didn't install it until January. Sunrun told me that there would be no more payments with the company, which is SRP right now. I have a pool and they told me, “You're going to have your pool on all day, all night. And you're going to have enough power to do that. And then the AC is going to be on all day, and you're not going to have to pay nothing to the company.” That sounded good. So I turned the pool on and then four days ago, I got a bill from SRP and it states I owe 500. Sunrun didn't tell me that on the winter, I was not gonna produce to have my pool and AC on. So for that part, I was stressed.

I am severely displeased with Sunrun and the sales people they employ. I indicated that I was interested in getting solar while taking advantage of the Costco promotion several times throughout our communications. During the months that I considered Solar my salesperson inundated me with calls and texts to follow up and sell me solar. I was shopping around looking for the best value and most affordable solar panels, to which my sales person promised as an added bonus that he would throw in an additional $1000 gift card to "sweeten the deal" in addition to other incentives promised.
Eventually after he wore me down I truly entrusted my sales person's word and that he would hold up his end of the bargain. We planned the initial installation which I received 2 separate visits of Sunrun employees assessing whether installation was doable or not. Neither communicated with with the previous employee where they left off, nor had my salesperson communicated that they would need to come into my house even though I mentioned that I work late at night and therefore sleep later into the morning.
Finally came the day of installation to which I communicated to my salesperson again that I sleep late so I couldn't have them coming into my home. I was assured that would be the case, unfortunately to my surprise he did not convey this message. They were very loud in their installation and I was not able to go back to sleep after being woken up while they worked. After installation they shut off my power, they tripped a wire and blew out my heat pump in the middle of winter leaving me without heating for my home. Again my sales person promised they would cover the cost of repairing my heater, which I have never been reimbursed for.
Fast forward to my solar system being installed and I am patiently awaiting my incentives that were promised to me. I contacted my salesperson, I receive no response to my request. I was passed onto a "project coordinator" that knew nothing of the incentives promised to me. I follow up and got passed on to another project coordinator. At this point I am beginning to get extremely frustrated and contact my sales person who at first could not stop contacting me, but when I needed him was nowhere to be found. After not hearing from him for 3 months!!! All of the incentives and tax rebate information I needed he miraculously was no longer knowledgeable about.
Furthermore, the Costco incentive I mentioned I was interested in from the beginning, I was informed i wasn't eligible for because my sales person filed the wrong paperwork for me. Whether it was out of malice (perhaps getting a bigger commission for not going through Costco) or sheer ineptitude they have noting to rectify their mistake. My sales person said that the Costco promotion was discontinued despite having spoken to a Costco representative saying that it has been ongoing, uninterrupted during the time I was seeking to get my solar installation.
Needless to say, I highly recommend you either go directly with Costco Sunrun representative to mitigate confusion or support a smaller Solar installer, as the large the company like Sunrun are less likely to enact or keep their promises. I am in conversation with journalist at the moment to make a national publication documenting the company's false claims. If nothing else arises from this I am already prepared to start taking legal action in the coming days.
We are sorry to hear this, Antoine! Please send us a private message with your service address, and we will have a representative reach out to help resolve your concerns. Thank you!

The experience with the salesman was very positive. He answered all our questions, stayed a long time to answer our questions, and got the information he needed from our PG&E bill so that he could show us a realistic projection of what we would save and how many panels we would need. But the very bad experience was everything after that. The subcontractors through Sunrun were inexperienced. We were not able to get a hold of anyone from Sunrun because COVID was in full effect and everybody was working from home. The local office closed down in Bakersfield, so there was no real point of contact.
The project managers that we were given were not available, and they were not contacting us. One of them, I never heard from at all. We left several messages on the phone number and emails. There were a lot of problems with the project managers at Sunrun that didn’t do their job. We had a really difficult time with the installation. The installation was pretty shoddy. They had conduit cable on my visible wall. They had put ground rods in my cement in my walking area. They broke 100 tiles on my roof. They had to order the tiles, which took a while to come in. The electrician installed those tiles and when my husband came home, the tiles were really badly placed. My husband asked him why was Sunrun having an electrician do a tile job? The guy told us that they don't have any tile guys that will come out.
The electrician patched and painted the wall. But he didn't patch the wall correctly and the paint didn't match. It looked like a quilt because everywhere that Sunrun drilled a hole to secure the conduit, they have to patch and paint. So we had multiple little holes patched and painted with multiple different color paints. The electrician told us, “Well, we can't match the paint because this paint is X amount of years old, and the paint that we bought is brand new. So you're not going to be able to match an old paint with new paint.” My husband said, “That's not my problem. You're going to fix this because it doesn't look good.”
At that point, my husband already called the city of Bakersfield and he got a hold of the people that come out to approve and sign off on everything, and he complained to them. He told them, “I do not want anybody from the city coming out to my house to approve this. It's not done to my liking.” So the whoever comes out to approve everything couldn't come out until we were satisfied.
Sunrun told us, “Well, if you know a painter, you get the painter, and you have them paint and we'll pay for it.” But my husband told them, “That's not my job, that's your job. Your job is to get the painter and take care of this.” This took about six months. Sunrun ended up finding a licensed painter to come out and patch and paint. They ended up having to paint the whole back wall, which is what they should have done to begin with. Everything was fine at that point. The solar was on, the tile and the conduit were good, and the wall was painted. The next thing that took a long time was getting the switch flipped to get it turned on. It was supposed to happen sometime in November and December at the latest. It didn't happen until sometime in January, that they were able to contact PG&E, and get the authorization to flip the switch.
Right now, we’re enjoying our solar. It’s an excellent product, and it’s doing what they said it would do. We're trying to learn how to use the app, so that we could figure out what's going on with the app. So far, everything's good now. Hopefully, Sunrun improves their customer service, and people are back in the office and not at home anymore. Everything that we were promised at the beginning of how this would happen didn't come true. I'm not the only person having this problem with Sunrun. There's another person that I know that's having similar issues with Sunrun.
We're so sorry to hear this, Lisa. We certainly don't want you to feel frustrated. Please send us a private message with your service address so that we can help resolve this for you. Thanks!

I got the panels installed in the first part of December. December 6th is when I was considered to be activated, but it wasn't functioning until almost February to get it running proper and right, and online. But the installers neglected a couple spots that were, for safety reasons, could have been addressed a bit better. They were caps over the top of the hot wire lines that are underneath our main power box that were exposed so I had to have somebody come back and take care of it. And it was like pulling teeth because it took months to get somebody to come back out here. And when the guy did come back out here, he’s cool. He got on the phone and he was talking to somebody else, but he said, “Some dumb son of a ** that connected this box didn't cover up these caps.” And I'm out here doing this clear out and pausing, because it's almost two hours from where APS' base is in Phoenix.
It's a pain in the butt for a $1.50 cap that exposes live wires that could have been prevented, and APS overlooked it. They didn't notice it because it was underneath the box, which is shocking because they could have not passed it through inspection. But they overlooked it and I just wanted to make sure that it was taken care of, because our grandkids run around here and you know how they pick up stuff. They see something, they'll say, “Ooh! It’s pretty! It's got colors!” And I don't want them touching those live wires. Those main live wires are hot. It's about my waist in height. So, it could happen and somebody could touch it.
The only problem I had is when I call and talk to Sunrun, and I need to make an appointment for somebody to come out here and check this, it took multiple months to get somebody to come out here and to take care of it. And the coordinator is terrible. She's got no business doing what she's doing. Because we had to dig a ditch almost 74 feet in length to our power box to our garage, because you don't put the solar panels on a mobile home. So my husband and I did it. And it saved a contractor coming out here or even for us even to do this, almost $6,000. My husband’s a licensed contractor. He has been doing it for 22 years. And we know how to dig these ditches for people. We just did it ourselves. Otherwise, we would have never done it because that would have costed us $6,000 to do it. My husband took the day off and he did it because Sunrun's permit guy wanted this to happen. And we have no problem doing that.
The coordinator had to have the pictures. I sent the pictures. No response from her whatsoever. I kept emailing the coordinator to say, “Okay. We did it. We took pictures of it.” I had to communicate with the salesperson, and at that point, it's not the salesperson’s job to take care of those situations. It's the coordinator’s job. The salesperson was just to come out here to sell the product to us, set us up, and make us understand how much power we're going to get, and make sure we don't have to pay extra with APS. This salesperson came all the way out here to the house that morning, and we had to have a permit guy come out here and check it multiple times. So, everything got on a standstill.
It was the worst set of communication I've ever done. About 15 times in one month I had to call to try to get ahold of somebody. That's the only unprofessional aspect of the whole deal. I understand when things don't get done right away. But I thought, “They’re probably ignoring me now because I'm calling them so much.” But I wanted that covered up and I wanted to know my next step because I was doing exactly everything I was told to do. Taking the pictures and sending it to the coordinator. I had to call the salesperson to turn them into the coordinator. That took weeks for her to respond to that. So I'm pushing the salesperson constantly to help me out with this. Otherwise, I don't know when we would have been able to accomplish this situation. That's how bad it was.
Besides, I feel bad. I don't mind somebody speaking French. The last guy coming out here, it was comical. But somebody could have been offended by that. We do remodels and Sedona, all over the place. If we walked into somebody's personal home and we start cussing and swearing, that's inappropriate. People need to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. These are little quirks that I would never do at your house if we remodeled it. Or if I had to listen to vulgar language and things like that, that bothered me a bit. Everything else was good.
The only issue with it is this last month, my power bill was a lot less, because a month before that it was $50 plus the 135 that I'm paying to Sunrun. But I got down to $9.95 at APS, plus my 135, which is awesome because I don't mind paying over the 10 bucks. But I know that you have to even out because during the wintertime, you got less days and sunlight. And in the summertime, that's when we build up our credit. When winter comes next year, I'll be able to have a little extra for it. The only thing I was mainly concerned is that my salesperson did not evaluate me right as far as my not going over the 135. And that Sunrun expressed to me through an email that they would reevaluate me in a year or two, to see where I'm sitting with it.
Sunrun is great, but there are little things about it that I didn't care much for. Because I pushed my husband into this because I just wanted a more steady bill and to see if this would work out. Plus, it makes the value of our property better. The solar system works great. I'm just hoping things even keel over the summer and I get my build up with what I need to have there, and that I'm getting to where I'm paying only $135. There's only two of us here on this property, and our house, honestly, is a tiny home. It's at 400 square feet and then we've got a big 1,100 square foot garage that we don't turn really any power on. So, we’ve used the same power every year. We've been here for seven years. I know exactly my power bill and how to budget it. But my budget is getting less because of Sunrun, and I love it. But I would like to keep it that low.

We had some issues with the roof and we wanted that whoever came in, they should take care of the issue as well as put the thing. So we talked with multiple vendors and everybody wanted to do the roof and the solar thing, but didn’t want to fix it. But Sunrun's sales guy came and understood the issue. He got a check by different people and finally, they were able to fix it, as well as do the job. So Sunrun did a great job. I really liked that they were honest and they kept us updated about what was happening and not happening. Especially with the COVID situation, there were a lot of things that were getting delayed and they would keep us updated. So all over, my experience was pretty good.
The entire process was pretty much painless. There were two guys out there who took questions and answered any issues or concerns that we had. Right now, as we approach summer, the wattage that the system is generating is going up. Like last month and this month, we had a negative bill. So it's doing well as per projection.
You brightened our day, Amit! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We're so happy you chose us as your solar provider. Welcome to the Sunrun family!

I contacted Sunrun and they went through how much solar I would need and based it on the previous year. Then they checked out the house and did the measurements. A couple of weeks later, they put up the panels and installed them in one day. In the beginning, I wasn't getting the energy they said that my panel would generate. But then they told me that it was because they generate less energy in winter than in summer or spring. So I started January, checked the Sunrun app, and I saw that I'm generating more energy now. I'm happy with Sunrun.

The salesperson was good. His name is Addison and I'm very happy with the work he did. But it was afterward that I am not very happy with. Right now, the panels have been installed and it's producing electricity. I can see through my app how much kilowatt hour it is doing, but there is an issue with the electricity going into the grid with Xcel. So, Xcel is saying that they don't see anything being produced from Sunrun. I spoke with Sunrun several times but they haven't resolved the issue. I'm unhappy with the project manager. His supervisor was supposed to be helping me with Xcel to make sure that the electricity is going into the grid.

Sunrun contacted us and we had to get a new roof. They came out and installed the panels. That was great. I got a real bill after a month it got turned on and we got a bill from Sunrun. I did not expect a bill from Sunrun. My husband called our project manager named Mary and she tried to get ahold of us. We ended up calling back on a Saturday and we didn't get ahold of her. We got ahold of some customer service person who was awesome on the phone. He explained to us that because we got turned on in December, we were having a production underrun. That was not surprising because it was winter. We were basically making up the difference. If there's a surplus at the end of the year, that gets sorted out.
The customer service person said that if got a regular bill, we were to send them the bill. I sent a copy of the bill and sent the complaint. I then got the automated response thing and somebody would get back to me in two days. The house is in my name. But my husband's retired so he has more time to deal with the whole project. I was expecting someone to say, "It's all been taken care of," then something would happen with the bill and the next bill would be normal. Apparently, Sunrun called back on the 15th but did not leave a message. My husband missed the call. They then sent an email saying, "We didn't get ahold of you, so we're closing the case."
I didn't follow up because I'm busy. I had a vacation last week and we got the normal bill from ComEd and not the adjusted bill. Our system was supposed to have been turned on December 21st. We've been having sunny days but we're not showing that on the ComEd side even though according to the Sunrun app, we should be producing savings. Right now, we're not very happy with Sunrun. Where's our savings?
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Monthly savings will vary depending on your usage, but we would be more than happy to take a closer look at this for you to ensure that you are enjoying the full benefits of going solar. Please send us a private message with your service address. Thanks!

The thing that made me go ahead and take the appointment with Sunrun was that it was online. The rep could show me graphs and answer all my questions. He was very educated in solar. There was no downpayment too. My system was installed in a day. The only thing was it took so long from the time they completed the installation to the time that the system got started. It takes a long time to approve it and the city has to come out. Other than that, it's been a couple of months now that I've been using the system and it's overly good. But I need to have a talk with PG&E so I could understand their side of the billing.

When I spoke with the first rep, he gave me the estimate as to how much it was going to be, and how long the process was going to take. Once we went through financing and signed off on the contracts, he then passed me on to the person that was going to take care of the actual installation and oversee. Then they closed out with us. So I had positive experiences with both of them. Sunrun took care of all the permits. It took a few weeks to get to the install part after we signed off on the contracts because they had to go through the city. Then Sunrun called us up and set up a date with us when that would be all available to do. The actual install portion took about a day. I am grateful that I now have an electric bill of $15 and as we enter summer here, I'm going to be more appreciative. I'm looking forward to not having another $700 bill.

So everything was done very quickly and they were very organized. I would definitely recommend them.

The reason why I used Sunrun over their competitors was because one, it's backed up by Costco. If Costco were not been part of it, I would not have made the move with any company right now. If I have a legal issue, I'm gonna go out to Costco. I know Costco has the best of the best attorneys. And they don't play around regarding, "You're not liking it, any product, bring it back. We'll give you a full refund. No worries." I'm sure the attorneys have seen Sunrun's programs because they don't want to take Sunrun also to court, at the end of the day, for a lawsuit.
Also, because I'm a real estate agent and I'm against solar. I'm in a business of selling homes. Homeowners sometimes abuse the use. But for solar, for some people, if they take that kind of abuse, then it's okay, but they have to pay the price. But when it comes down to selling your home, but the next person does not want solar, then we have a problem trying to sell the property. But Southern California now, and pretty much in the near future, everybody's going to go solar with the rising prices of electricity and everything else. I have a two-story house. I have a pool. So it just makes more sense because I got to keep running my home.
The sales rep answered my calls. He doesn't disappear like some of these other companies, and there's nobody I could get ahold of. I've been in the industry where customer service is important. Somebody wants to get ahold of somebody. They don't want to talk to a machine. What's the machine gonna do? However, Sunrun needs to have more priority under installation.
I don't mind people coming to my house and working, doing their thing, but they should not smoke a cigarette on my roof. Second, don't throw cigarette butts in my flowers. I didn't complain because I didn't want to go through this process. Because one guy was good and the other guy just didn't care or that's how they are at home anyway. Because he threw a cigarette butt, that tells me a lot about him and how he is living. So, every time I have to go out there and clean, and I inspect my surroundings, I find cigarette butts. I don't smoke myself, so why should I have cigarette butts from a clown coming over here working in my property? And he's just gonna throw it anywhere, especially when he's on top of my roof. I come from an industry where I gotta be professional and respect somebody's property.
Sunrun needs to be aware and they need to do classes regarding you go to somebody's house, you respect. You don't drink or smoke or anything on top of the roof. If you're going to do that, then you need to do it on your break or lunch and away from the house. Because what if the house burned down? And if you broke something, don't stay quiet about it. I had other couple more tiles broken and they didn't say anything. I have a tile roof. So if it rains, I'm going to have an issue. They didn't even report it even to who their supervisor was. But it took me to go up there and check and inspect. If I never saw that, we just have some horrible rains, I would have had a leaking roof, when I've been in this property for a year and never had a roof leak when it rains. But of a sudden, there's a roof leak. So obviously, who has been working on my roof? Sunrun.
I called a representative and he took care of it right away. But all I got was, "I'm sorry. Let's take care of it." But this solar thing didn't cost me $5,000. It cost 30,000 some bucks that if I would have never purchased it, Sunrun doesn't have a job and referrals. Buyers and clients beware. Look at this, so that it doesn't happen to you. There are good employees and bad employees. Sunrun is gonna get a 25, 25, 25 all the way around, out of 100. Because that one 25 is gonna be the good, but they got 75, they drop in the sea level.

The interview process went very well and we selected SUNRUN through COSTCO. There were delays from day one. Excuses about COVID delaying supplies, then requiring us the resign our contract 4 times over several months. There was several mix ups with obtaining the permit with the city to begin installation (each taking 6 weeks to fix). Our process started in Jun 2021 and finally had the solar and battery installed in Mar 2022, the final inspection from the city took place and the inspector said that the plans were nothing like what work was completed and that the breaker box needed to be a minimum of a 200 amp and SUNRUN installed a 175 amp. We have written SUNRUN but no one will return our emails. We have been paying on the loan but don't have any solar to offset our electric bill. All we want to to have the work completed correctly and get past this. I hope that corporate reads this and helps us. I am out of options besides going to court.

The representatives of SunRun, up until recently, were very good. The follow-through fell apart. Number one, they still haven't finished everything. They said, “You got permitted.” I said, “Yeah. But you hadn’t finished painting the wall outside." That still hasn't happened and that's been four months now. For about a month, I heard from nobody. Eventually, I got back and they said, “One of us was sick.” and "sorry. I was busy on vacation.” I said, “Usually, good companies will have people backing that other person up if they're not there for whatever reason.”
But the rep, Daniel went through a very unusual situation with me. I own my own home, free and clear, so there was no mortgage. So, I couldn't take advantage of the federal rebate. We went through a different process. I decided I wanted to lease the solar panels because of the fact that they warranty it for the length of 25 years during a lease. At the same time, I prepaid it because it was the best deal. He was very polite, respectful and clear. He walked me through as many things as he could at the time. The system has been working properly. I did notice that I'm still getting Edison bills, and Nathan is helping me and is looking into that. He did request me to send over the latest two bills that I’ve been receiving from Edison. He did mention we would be at a point that we would be getting, if anything, credits from Edison. It just sucks because we're in Twentynine Palms and they had to come out from Yucca. But the rep came out and had a conversation with us. Then, we got everything set up and it was really fast.
When they installed the panels, they forgot important pieces and they had to drive an hour and a half away to get the pieces and then come back. They ended up cutting the power off early. It delayed everything. The two techs, besides the fact that they left important pieces, went together to go get it in a van, which seemed unnecessary. Also, one of them dropped a potato wedge in our front yard and our dog who has stomach issues got it but luckily, we stopped her from eating it. And somebody knocked over their Red Bull and left it there. I told them to clean it up and the electrician was the one who did. The electrician was awesome all around. They didn't get done till it was almost dark and once they got the panels up, there were a few that looks high or low or weird so they jumped back on the roof and fixed them all. The quality of work was good and they cleaned up after themselves. I just didn't like that they forgot parts for a job that was scheduled in advance.

But I was thinking why they didn’t have better communications and connections. Because as the customer, I don't care where the problem is. You need to fix it. So, I was not pleased that they could not deliver their service until six months from the time they installed it. Another thing is that the app they have doesn't give you all the information that's nice to have. So, it would be nice to see the app saying how much is being produced on a monthly basis and tell you how much it is for a day. But there's no way for you to get aggregate data on a period or range like the last seven days or 30 days. They give you daily data. So, that needs to be changed. The process of enrolling started off pretty good. I sat on the phone with a sales rep for three hours discussing plans and it was a good experience. Then, within a couple of weeks, I had my initial survey. But there were some modifications that needed to be done to my roof or a vent, which they subcontracted out. When I talked to them, they said that it would take a few weeks but it wound up taking months for the subcontractor to come out and perform the work.
I kept on getting different excuses and I didn't hear anything for a month. Every time I would try to call, I would get some runaround. It turned out that my original sales rep had accepted a different position and stopped working on my case. I got a new project manager and the communication improved. But I didn't get the roofing contractor out here until October, the panels installed until November, and the system activated until December. When I made the initial call in the middle of June, it should have been installed somewhere in July and activated in August.
Then, I was supposed to get $1,000 since I'm leasing the solar panels and I've yet to see that money. I used to have good communication with my sales rep but I failed to maintain that communication once her job was done. I would text her asking where that money was and if there was anything I needed to do. She would respond that it should be coming but it hasn't. I texted her and she didn't respond for like two weeks. The $1,000 gift card is the only reason why I stayed with Sunrun because I had already invested the time into getting the solar panels. The panels and cells are doing their job, but as far as the customer service, it's been awful. It's been the worst experience I've ever had as far as dealing with a corporate company to come out and install stuff and provide a service.

The installation was a little lengthy and the contractors rushed it through and left paint drops on the concrete. But other than that, everything went pretty good. When we spoke with the representative to install the panels, we made sure to get enough panels to cover future installations I was gonna have of appliances. But I don't see the coverage of panels being able to keep up with that. So I still see myself paying on top of my monthly with Sunrun.
Right now, I have an open case for a problem regarding my referral rewards. We were referred by another individual and Sunrun department made a mistake. The next day, I get a call from their collections department, wanting to know why I was behind on my payment. I wish I would have never paid it.
Now, I call them to come out because the system isn't working. But they won't come out. Nobody ever shows up. I just got off the phone with the rep about 10 minutes ago and again, I was promised that someone would get ahold of me today about the issues here. They told me that about four times already and nothing ever happened. It's a shame because I researched Sunrun and I thought they were a good company. I had been pretty positive with people, some of the neighbors coming over, asking about it when they see we had it put in. But the office people have screwed it up. They won't take care of it. It's no way to run a business.
I called Sunrun yesterday and told them the battery didn't work and it wasn't producing any solar. The technician I got ahold of told me, “Oh, no. You're over-producing.” But I was not over-producing. I could see the meter and it was going forward all the time. I got on the Sunrun app, and it showed that it was shut off from 11:30 till 5:00 at night. Then it looked like somebody threw a switch and turned it back on. But by that time, it didn't produce very much, but at least it showed that the battery charged a little bit.

A rep called and I told him I was interested in solar. He told me all about it and he emailed a whole bunch of stuff to me. I decided to do it so we continued the process. The installation went effortlessly. The whole process took quite a while because it took them a long time to get the permit from Cook County. On the whole, everything went fine. I had anticipated a bigger difference in my electricity bill than there is. I see very little difference in my electric bill because it's winter. Hopefully, when spring and summer comes, I will see a difference.

Enrolling with Sunrun was super easy. Somebody briefed me on what they're about and everything they said were so spot on as far as what I'd like. So then they had a representative contact me and he was super easy to deal with. He completed virtually 90% of the paperwork that had to be done. Then, they sent somebody over who did the inspection and made sure that it was right for the house. After they did that, they said it would work good for me and again went over all kinds of information where I didn't have to do mega research. They provided so much for me. They also took care of the hookups, dealing the county, and getting the permits.
As for the installation, it went super quickly. They did a great job on cleaning up with everything and I had some special requests. There's an electrical line that has to come off the roof down to the main power panels and I wanted it to match the house. They took care of all of that and it was great. We’ve got a little cabin we just purchased and I’ve got the process again going right now to get solar eneger over there.
Other than that, I wanted to give my salesperson a shout out because he was awesome. His name was David and if you don’t have solar on your house, call David up. You will not regret it. We're saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars a month right now and considering when I put my panels in last year on our main house, the amount that we've saved has been incredible. And electrical rates are going up too. We're paying 12.2 cents per kilowatt hour and now it's up to 16. So you're talking about a huge jump. Our electric bill was running us typically at 550 a month at 12 cents per kilowatt hour and our last bill was 170 some dollars.

Sunrun was a lease instead of an owned and it sounded like a good deal at the time. The installers put the panels around the first part of December or so. Then there was an issue saying it was United Power’s problem. United Power came out and even though there was nothing wrong with the box, they went ahead and replaced it. Two or three weeks later, I called customer service saying it was still not working and I still don't see anything on my app. They said they would send somebody out. Two weeks later, no one came out. Another week later, no one came out.
I contacted the rep. The rep contacted somebody higher up in the installation area. They sent somebody out and he said that it was United Power’s problem again. They didn't have anything to do with it. That was around mid to late January. Then I contacted my rep again. He said he would escalate this. February 5th, the guy came out and said, “Oh, our installers just dead-ended something in the panel. That's why it would never work.” We got it running in February 5th. But then I got a bill for January in February. I was asking them for a refund and they said something about a guarantee and I would get a refund in two years. They said it was in the contract. I have no clue. I didn't read the whole contract. But I guess I should because I feel like I'm getting screwed now.
In the meantime, I've been paying my full United Power bill which was 120, 130. I figured, with my 50 something dollars a month, I'd be saving money. Well, not yet. I'm still in the very early process and I don't know if I'm gonna see a return. I've tried to do my homework and see what's going on. But obviously, I didn't do it well enough because I don't know if I would have chosen Sunrun if I would’ve known there was so much trouble upfront. But we'll see how it pans out.

The solar panels work by itself and you have to do nothing. It's a little expensive but once it's paid off, that's when you're gonna start to see the benefits of having solar panels. But they are supposed to bring down your electric bill and it technically hasn't ever since they've been installed. From what I was explained, it could be because it was installed during the winter month and there's not a lot of sun. Ever since I've had it installed, my electric bill has tripled and sometimes quadrupled. I was paying 170 and ever since that, the bill went up to 500.
I'm trying to still give the solar panels a shot. I've heard people who pay low. So, I'm trying to see if it's during winter. Also, I'm a first-time homeowner and I'm trying to do different things in my own house in regards to my heating because it's also electric. So, I'm trying out new things to see if it could be that it's my fault before I make a final decision. I've always wanted to get solar panels because at the end of the day, if it's my doing as to why the bill is coming high, then I can fix that. If it's not, then I go back to before I had the solar panels.
The customer service was great. They helped me out and explained everything. They were very nice and cleaned up, even after they installed everything. They even updated some stuff for me to bring it up to code. When I was driving myself crazy trying to figure things out, I called Sunrun and they explained to me what could be the cause for my bill being so high. They try to take care of you and help you out in any way that they can. I would definitely recommend Sunrun. My daughter's godfather has been asking me and I've told him what's been going on. I explained to him that it could be because of winter. Plus, I have electric heating that can be so high. I've been upfront. My wife called me 30 minutes ago and she told me that our bill lowered this month. It's still 500 and something, but it's not 626 like it was for last month. Hopefully, with what I'm doing at home with the heater and everything else, it turns out that the solar panels work out.

It took me a year to get my solar turned on, which is ridiculous. I called my representative and told her that if I didn't have my solar turned on by March 31st, I want her to come over and take her stuff off my roof. And if she does any damage to my roof, I'm going to get an attorney and sue her for damages. So, I'm going to get an inspector to check it out. Within three days, Sunrun had my solar turned on. They kept blaming it on PNM.
I have a lot of health issues and I need my electricity. I'm paying 150 a month for PNM and I'm paying $50 a month for Vivint. But now, Sunrun took it over. They finally claimed it had been turned on. I had my wife go out and flip the switch and there's a green light on the box, which is an indication that it's on. But I won't know until I get my next bill. I'm supposed to be paying $32 plus tax a month and then it’d go up 2.5% a year. But I'm paying $200 a month. I'm 79 years old on Social Security and it's terrible. So, I had to use a threat to get them to do something about it and it's not right. I would not recommend anybody to get Sunrun, not through my experience.

We had a little bit of hiccups initially because of the way that the conversation was going, we were thinking of getting the solar batteries as well. The first representative we spoke with was saying that if we didn't get the battery right now, then there won't be an opportunity to put that on later on. But then, trying to figure out where exactly to put the batteries in the house was a problem. We didn't want it to be right at the entrance of the house because that's where we have all of our power and electrical. So we didn't want the side of the house to be too tampered by installing all these things. We eventually spoke with Sunrun and they said that they can do a plan where we don't have the battery right now, but if we want it in the future, we could add it on. So we went with that option. In making that decision, the process took much longer than it should have because there was a lot of back and forth and the communication wasn't so smooth.
The installation was pretty good. The first time the installers came in, we hadn't decided where exactly we wanted to put it. So they showed up and they told us where exactly things would go and told us to cut off the plants that were in the area. So we did that and then they showed up, and within a few hours, they were done. Sunrun has been very honest and transparent with the whole process. The installation looks clean and tidy. We got the installation done in the middle of the winter. On the days when it's sunny, I see that in the app we are getting more power. But the offset hasn't been big enough to where it actually makes a dent into our electrical bills yet. I'm hoping that in the summer, it will start to happen.

We've had a ton of issues with Sunrun over the past few months. The process of installation was a complete mess and it kept on getting delayed because somebody dropped the ball along the way. We started this process in June and we didn't get the installation done until October. Then, when they had the system installed, they couldn't turn it on. I don't think they turned on the system until November. It was such a frustrating process and a lot lengthier than they anticipated. A lot of things didn't go as smoothly as we expected.
Also, we had a billing issue from the very beginning. There was a promotion that the sales representative gave us, which was six months for $1 a month, and she put all the paperwork in. But for some reason, they were still billing me the $99 a month. There's only one number I could call the customer service and I was on hold forever. Nobody could help me. They said they had handled it but it had been ongoing since December. But the sales rep we work with has been great and she reaches out as much as she could. She has no obligation to help after everything got installed but she was texting and calling me. She did the best she could.
The issue only got resolved recently and then, I got an email saying that I'm $7.50 past due, which makes no sense because I have a $23 credit on my account. I'm so tired of it. They finally fixed the billing issue after three months and it's not even fixed because I'm still getting emails that we're past due with something. I don't know that I would recommend Sunrun to anybody else because I wouldn't want to put forth the kind of experience that we had.

We already had one with another company and I wasn't very happy with the performance of the unit. But because I had purchased that, I had to stay with it. Talking to Sunrun at Home Depot, they convinced me into trying them. They came over and checked it all out, gave me a quote, which I was very happy with, they put 12 more panels in there, and I was able to lease instead of buying, which was a better incentive for me. Although, my payments are still up there just like my power bill was, I figured, in time, I can get that taken care of. But as far as that goes, for right now, I'm very happy with the way things are running.
The people were very upfront with what was going on. If I had any questions, they'd answer me and whatnot, so I wasn't left out and left in a cold field then figure out what was going on. When they got done, I drug my feet after, everybody came over, did everything. Then I got messages to turn the power on and they would send somebody to do that. I went there in February and threw the switches.
When I got my first bill, I was kind of shocked because it was $177. Like, "Wow. Okay." It was because we were offline and I drug my feet, so that was on me. The next bill we got was $13, which was just a meter reading from Nevada Power so I was contented with that. We'll see what goes on. The summer is not here yet and we haven't changed anything from what we normally do. All-in-all, I am very happy with the situation with the way things are going right now with Sunrun.

The enrollment was all right. There were some gray areas that I am now noticing. Sunrun came out and surveyed the area. They installed the panels. My panels don't make power when they're covered in snow. So, a little heads up as to, “Hey, maybe you should keep your panels clean because of the pitch of your roof” would have been fine. If I had a steeper pitch, the snow probably would slide off on its own. But because of a low pitch on my roof, the snow tends to stick. So, every winter, I'm used to going up on my roof, shoveling snow off. That's fine. But it's when my entire roof is covered in solar panels and I have to be gingerly pulling it off, then it becomes kind of an issue. And it's more time-consuming.
And as far as with the breakdown of the pricing, the number the rep kept giving me which interested me was, “With everything, it's gonna be 140 bucks a month for your electric bill.” I don't know if he meant that that was an average over the year. So, if my panels aren't making power and they're covered in snow, I'm not saving any on my electric bill.
In December, my bill was 92 bucks. In the wintertime, it's normally 150. The big thing for me is in the summer. When I'm running my air conditioners or I'm running my pool pump, my bill is normally 350. So, in the summer, if it's only gonna be 100 bucks, that's fine. But the thing is the rep just kept telling me that my bill would be $140 a month. Maybe I didn't read the print fully where it said, “Hey, if your panels are covered, you're not making power. You're not deducting energy from your electric bill.”
My last electric bill was 450 bucks for the month, because I was under the impression that I can go ahead and plug in my electric heater so I can heat my woodshop. I was doing a bunch of work. And my panels were covered in snow. Now, my bill is outrageous. It's double what it normally is. So, I was pissed about that.
The rep made some promises to me and he hasn't followed through with that, so I tried to contact them yesterday. And to their understanding and on my account, the promises he made to me have yet to be documented. So, that didn't go over too well with me either. And when I called him yesterday, he told me he was in a meeting and he would call me right back. But he never did. His voicemail is full, so I can't leave him a voicemail. And he only seems to respond to me when he wants to.
I use Sunrun's app to see when I'm making power. One of the other issues I had is that my internet went down and I had to switch out routers. And when I did, it disconnected my panels. So, my panels weren't communicating with Sunrun. And I had no idea about it. Sunrun figured it out and called me 30 days later. So, there was another hiccup in the system because they had to come out and reconnect my Wi-Fi to the system.
I've had a good experience with Sunrun. The guys who came and installed those stuff were great. They did it in a timely manner. They were clean and were respectful. They did a great job. I referred Sunrun to a couple of people. One of my friends is going through with an install in the spring. So, I was, “Oh, that was nice to see.” The other thing is that my contact who essentially pitched me the whole thing said, “Being that you’re gonna get $1,500 incentive for going through with all this stuff.” The way he made it out to be is I would receive two prepaid credit cards for the amount of $1,500. I have yet to see those. And there's nothing on my account that even says that that's going to happen. That is what annoys me about the whole situation. I was after just the aspect of saving money on my electric bill. And I like the fact that I didn't have to shell out 30 grand for all these panels. That was the big thing for me.

The whole process with Sunrun was horrible. The guy that came told us stuff that doesn't exist, then he dropped the ball and didn't tell us the rest of the stuff that was supposed to happen. When they did the installation, they damaged my roof because they put holes in areas where there were no panels. Then, they were supposed to go out and repair it. I had the company do an estimate because the house is brand-new, but they never came back and repaired everything. They also never followed back up to give me a call. The whole process took from the end of August all the way to three weeks ago. We had no idea what the next step was and we wound up not paying the electric bill because I thought it was going over to solar. But it wound up going over to solar four months later.
I had to threaten Sunrun to have the reps come take the solar panels off of my roof in order for them to even communicate with me about anything. I still don't know if my roof has been completed and repaired because I asked them to send me pictures of the repairs but I have not gotten a call back from anybody and nobody knows what anybody is doing. Everybody drops the ball. I asked for a manager to call me back four times, but I never got a call from a manager. Then, they tried to fix it after I asked them to remove the solar panels. Aside from that, the information that I got from the electric company, my NV Energy, is completely different than what Sunrun explained to me. So, I wouldn't advise them to be with anybody. I'm going to give them until the end of the month to try to contact me back. If they do not contact me back about what's being done, I'm going to just sue them because my whole roof was destroyed.

I also asked about the state rebate, which I didn't know about initially. I had to fill out some paperwork and and the Sunrun's construction guy in-charge took forever to get it back to me. I was concerned because I was thinking I needed it by the end of the year. Then, I had to call the salesperson and ask for it because the construction guy never sent it to me.
After that, he sent it to me but with the way that he filled out the form, I couldn't submit it electronically. So, I had to print it out, sign it, and I took it to Santa Fe, which is about 50 miles from my house. Luckily, the lady who collects those was there. She was working from home, but that day, she happened to be there. So, she checked it out and everything was fine. Other than that, the installation was smooth and since going solar, I've noticed a lower bill. And in my area right now, we haven't got a lot of sun. So that's been pretty good. I'm just waiting for the summertime now when there's more daylight to see what my bill's going to be.

My wife and I had been talking about solar for years. One day, I got on my phone and I started looking up and Sunrun popped up. I started talking to a gentleman named Patrick that made everything sound perfect. He made me believe that I'd get 1,000 and I'd get another 700 for anybody I'd recommend. I wasn't interested in that part of it. I was more interested in the solar part, getting all hooked up, and he was great. One day, he called me up about the time they were gonna put the solar on the roof saying I couldn't talk to him anymore. For some reason, I didn't know what. I tried to call him back a few times and he won't answer. I had all kinds of questions and was left in the dark. Then the installers came and put the solar on the roof.
Now, I'm getting no information or bills. I talked to my daughter-in-law about it and she checked my email on my phone and she found that we were in collections. There were no phone numbers on all of the emails I've been sent to. My wife found one, and it hooked us up to some dude in a foreign country, who told me that I have to prove to him that I was offered $1,000. That pissed me off. The only reason I brought that up to him is that I'm in collections. I asked him repeatedly to just connect me with the bill to pay the bill. 45 minutes, we were on the phone and I said, "Forget it," and just hung up.
My credit is perfect, and now, I got all this mess, and it's somewhat our fault. My wife and I are not really computer whizzes. We wanted everything to come in the mail instead. If I'm behind in the payment, I need to get everything caught up, and that's no problem. It's just that I don't know where to do it. I was never concerned about the $1,000, but now I'm in collections and if this affects my credit, I will get ahold of that Patrick and I will demand that amount that he promised me. I tried calling him yesterday and his phone went to voicemail and, at the time, I didn't want to leave a message. Also, I have no idea if having this is saving or costing me money. I get no feedback. I still expect this to all be worth it. But it's getting a hell of a start going here.

They did what they said that they were going to do and when they said they were going to do it. So, that was nice. The fact that they gave me realistic timeframes is key. Our true-up was projected to be the same as the previous year of 1,600, but that was cut in half to 800. That's wonderful, considering that was only in the last four months of the year to make up all that energy. We've only had a brownout or sometimes the clock was reset, but you could still have lights and refrigeration. So, that’s good.

It went well with Sunrun and the panels are working great. However, the deal with the government incentives wasn't explained thoroughly enough. I bought a big system worth over $70,000, and the government rebate was supposed to be something like 18,000 that's broken up between three years. You don't get that incentive right away and I don't know how it works. The sales guy, Jermaine, was great. I just wish he would have had been more knowledgeable on the incentive part.

But they did everything themselves. I didn't have to follow up. I just sat back and relaxed. The installation went back and forth because of the engineering. After the engineering was done, they installed the system smoothly. Once they installed it, they found something that doesn't show as precise as what it did with the satellite. I did the calculation with the low interest rate going with Sunrun and even though I pay a lot, at a low interest rate of 1.49, it got me sold. Working with Sunrun was very pleasant. The lady called me quite a few times and updated me. The lead guy came over to smooth out things with the HOA and with the power companies. There was always very prompt response, email or phone call.
The installation took about five months but it could have been handled about three months. I was waiting and they were waiting. I kind of forgot about it in the middle and I should have reached back a little bit more. But once we got everything in motion, everything went pretty smooth. The follow up, the workmanship, the work ethic were very good. Sunrun's finance is fantastic too. There's not a whole lot of out-of-pocket to pay. From $120, I’m paying probably $15 for collection fee which is not a bad deal. Everybody who has a solar system has a battery. But in my own case, Sunrun's telling me, "The house cannot carry a battery." Then later, they came back to say, after six months, they will see if they can give me one. I don't know why they couldn't install the battery for me and why they said that latter one. It was quite confusing, but it is what it is. Then my bill went from 100-something dollars to 300, and this month it's 400-something. I called and they said that it's connected to the grid and it's the amount of power I'm using, so I'm trying to cut down on a lot of things because, with the solar panels, it should be lesser, but it's not, although probably because the sun energy is not enough. I'm still observing it. This might be working for some people. But I haven't seen any positive thing because my bill is higher. I was thinking I will pay a lower energy cost in terms to pay for the solar panels that were installed.

We had to call back because Sunrun said that they sent it before, and then they said it's gonna be an additional three weeks. They just got through installing the panels on January 5th. They told me I could visually see what the work was. But unfortunately, they forgot to do that. They had to come back out and we had to do that together. They actually show a monitoring device as to what it is that we're saving and what our energy storage is. We were then told that the price of our electricity would go down and that it would be at an average of $132.24. What they did was they composited the data of how much the bill was, and then they averaged it out on what would be savings and what the kind of bill would be monthly. We just haven't had one yet.

Calling Sunrun's customer service, it went through an answering service. I didn’t get follow-up or a lot of answers. I wanted to talk to the guy who was in charge of the whole process but he never got back. Instead, they sent me to service line and that didn't get anywhere. Updated on 02/13/2022: I have another review, “Buyer Beware” that was posted last month. You can see SunRun contacted me about the review. That’s where it stopped. Yes, I did get an email from someone there. I responded. Then nothing. I have not gotten a reply in over a week of any sort. No “Got your email and working on it.”, “Sorry we can’t help.”, nothing. So this adds to my other review that their customer service is below a one star as well. Please don’t publicly post you want to help, then don’t. I have presented them with a way to resolve my issue but they have failed to even acknowledge my response. So I continue to warn people to read their contracts in full, ask questions and don’t sign blindly. Don’t wind up like me.
Original Review: If I could provide negative stars, I would. The reason why I would like to provide this review is to make this a “buyer beware”. Eight years ago when we purchased our home, we decided to be energy efficient and purchase a solar agreement with Vivint solar. The agreement consisted of the company placing solar panels on our roof to which we would pay a “reduced rate“ for our electricity versus our traditional electric company. Fast forward those seven years and I am now paying more per kilowatt hour to the solar company for the solar than I am to my traditional electric company. Using the values in which I am paid, if I did not have the solar panels on my roof, I would actually be saving money paying the entire energy utilization cost to my traditional electric company.
In addition, it was not clearly stated unless one understands legalese in the contracts that I am now, for all intents and purposes, a prisoner in my own home. As I do not plan on selling my home, I am bound to a 20 year contract with now SunRun who purchased Vivint, regardless of my happiness. There is no way for the contract to be terminated unless we sell the property or purchase the system outright for full price based upon current market value.
The reason I am a prisoner is that if I need to make a repair to my roof, I need to schedule the roof repair around sunrun‘s requirement of a 30 day advance notification, I have to pay sunrun to remove the panels and replace it as they are the only ones per contract that can touch the system and if the roof repair result in a change of my solar panel configurations, I would need to pay them another cost to reconfigure the system. All of these requirements are being imposed by an outside company that I originally had contracted to provide a service and has no financial or personal tie to the actual structure. I’m being told by a company that has no investment what I can and cannot do to my own home and has to be done within their specifications. Beware and read your contract closely before signing on the dotted line. I didn’t.

The sales rep got us the right setup. He was able to answer the questions we had and he acted like he cared. He said it would take us about eight years for it to pay for itself and after that, it's good to have. However, we've had nothing but trouble from the billing side of things. The crew finished putting it on in August, it took until October to get PG&E to hook up, and then about every six days, we get a different bill from PG&E. We couldn't see that there was any benefit from the solar because all they did was kept charging us more money. Once the equipment was hooked up, Sunrun was done with me. When I called to find out, they didn't really want to answer anything or tell me anything.
Also, part of the problem was because our son already has a system on the property in my name. The mortgage is in my name. Yet, between Sunrun and PG&E, what held them up to connect them for so long was they couldn't figure out that there were two different homes on the property, and so I didn't understand why that was so hard. Even though PG&E was already billing me, they knew I had service, but why the two of them couldn't talk together and figure out how to connect. I didn't understand why it wasn't a smoother transition. We had to pay the bills, but Sunrun gave us a credit for it.

We live in what they call a paired house and when I found Sunrun, they were perfectly willing to be careful not to get onto the other person's side of the roof but installed the panels. Everyone was really nice. My biggest complaint was that it seemed like everybody wasn't on the same page. I kept getting conflicting information and I couldn't easily get some answers to my question. My house faces east and west and everything I had read is that the panels should either be on the south or the west. The first design came back with all the panels put on the east slope of our roof on the house. There were three or four different people that I got in a discussion about it and everybody said they would move the panels and put them on the west side. But I was never quite sure if there was a reason that they were originally put on the east side or not.
Also, there were some issues with the contract. I had questions and it was like they weren't really important to the people I was asking. It took a while to get adequate answers. Everybody in the system -- in the line between the original salesperson to the engineers to the installers -- often had different answers about what I was asking.
I am pleased with the final result, though, and the product is working very well. Based on the reports I'm getting, it seems like we are using less carbon energy and our electric bills are lower. It's snowing like crazy so we're not making a lot of electricity and I haven't seen the amount we can make in the summertime yet, but I suspect it'll be substantial.
We appreciate you being patient with us as we worked to install your system. We can see there were a few bumps in the way, yet it was a successful install. Thank you for helping us to create a planet run by the sun!

We were hoping to be able to decrease our electric cost as well as to have a backup source of energy. We live in a very rural area. So, we were hoping to have something that we weren't so dependent on the outside power sources since we tend to have a lot of power outages. My sister recommended Sunrun. She was pleased at the time that they did her home. So, we did it based on a recommendation. The process started out okay, but it got really messy in the middle. We ended up starting the process a couple of times with them because of paperwork or documents. We were due to originally get scheduled last spring, and it didn't happen until late summer. Initially, we didn't hear from anybody. So, I was doing a lot of calling back and forth.
Then we had thought that we were getting two batteries. Our house is on a septic system. Once the installation team came out and they were working on it, we realized that there was no second battery that our septic system was not going to be on a generator backup, which led to a lot of discussions with Sunrun. Still, it's kind of in limbo as to whether or not we're going to get the second battery. So right now, I'm not very happy with the process and what we're having to try and get done because now it may cost us more because we may have to look at a second option for a generator so that our septic system and water well work if we have a power outage. The whole reason for going solar was to eliminate those things.

The installers were very okay. But they didn't clean up behind themselves like they could have because I still had to do some cleaning up around my yard when they moved things to get up on the roof. But I just chalked it up. Everything went well. They came and worked and did what they had to do. However, when my insurance company said nothing was wrong with my roof after inspection, Sunrun wanted me to have them inspected. I had to come out of my pocket and pay $2,400 for putting the shingles up before those solar panels could be put up. Since I did that, I talked to the guy named Ian. He's the one I talked to about the little stuff and the inspection. He told me, "Since you're paying it out of your pocket, when the process is completed, I can recommend a gift card for you." Which I did get the $500 gift card after it was completed.
Now, when they put these things up on my roof, some wires were loose and coming out. When I called them, they said it wasn't coming from the panels. But, I've experienced over the last two weeks before we got the snow, the panels are not secured up there. I live in Chicago, we had a heavy gust of wind one night, and I heard a large roar and it was happening every 10 minutes before I associated it with the wind up here. My husband and I went out here to our bedroom window, because we were awakened at 2:00 in the morning. Maybe it was a car stranded. Who is this out here making all this noise at 2:00 in the morning? It wasn't a car parked on our block. We were looking and then all of a sudden the wind gust came again and we heard it. It was right over our head. It was coming from our roof.
I immediately emailed Sunrun at 2:00 in the morning and let them know. Then I called the guy who signed me up the next day, I still had his phone number. I let Anthony know what was going on. He gave me a phone number to call. So I called that number. They set me up with an appointment. And this appointment I know was last Tuesday, way before the snow came. They gave me about five or six-day wait before they gave me the Tuesday appointment.
I know the snow is up here so I'm not insensitive to know that maybe they weren't going to come out or they couldn't do their work because of the snow on the roof. But nobody called me from Sunrun to reschedule and to say, "We got your message. We will be out as soon as the weather breaks." Nobody emailed me and nobody telephoned me to find out what was going on with my roof. And I didn't like that. I'm not happy and pleased at all because of the lack of follow-through with Sunrun.
Thank you so much for letting us know. We are sorry this was your experience; we would be frustrated too! We will have a representative private message you. It’s important to us that we turn this experience around!

Everything with Sunrun went very well, and I didn't have any complaint about all the processes to the last points. So far, so good but we’re confused because we can use the hot water heater with it, which we didn't know that we're not using the solar. So, our a bill for PG&E went up so much. So we're like, “Okay. Tyler was awesome. He was very informative. The installation was awesome too. I got to meet the installers and I talked to the electrician. He spent quite a bit of time out here. It was pretty smooth. They got it all up and installed within a day. It was a good experience overall. But their app leaves a lot to be desired. Sunrun can use some support on the tech side, being able to do more with the app, because I can't do much beyond seeing the prior day on it. I talked to my project coordinator when I got my first bill, and we walked through the app. So I understand the functionality of it. But it isn't user friendly.
In about the first two months of having the system, it took a little bit for our bill to drop down. But this last bill, we're seeing a little bit of a decrease now. So I'm being mindful that it's been pretty cloudy and it’s wintertime, so we're not getting peak performance right now. But I'm definitely seeing production. I could see the battery is charged and when we had a brownout, I was able to use off my battery. It was cool to be the only house in the neighborhood that had power on even if it was just for an hour.
Thank you for helping us to create a planet run by the sun! Thank you for your feedback on the app, we are always looking to improve and make the customer experience better.

It's getting hotter here in Southern California and we're in an older house. We did have the insulation redone in the attic, but seeing that last summer, the air was running a lot and we were using a lot of power, we looked for what we can do to offset some of this. Once we started looking into Sunrun and what they had to offer, we never really took a hard look at anybody else because leasing was really the only way for us to go. Their lease seemed to be the best workable thing for us.
The installation crew was awesome. We did have one issue where we never heard from the project coordinator that was assigned to us again once we got the email from her saying, "I'm your project coordinator." I even emailed her a couple of times and never heard back. So, I emailed the sales manager and our salesperson. By the next day, we had a new project coordinator who was very reachable and communicated very well. We'll see more benefits in the coming late spring and summer but so far, we have seen a bit of benefit since switching to solar. We've gotten some days where we've generated more power than we've used, which is always good.

I was told my roof needed to be repaired. Okay. No problem. I live in an older house and was expecting that. So, this woman, Jen, emails me to tell me she will be my contact from now on. Great. No problem. Two weeks ago, their roofing contractor texts me to see if January 13th and 14th will work for me. I won't have to be home. Great again. I can work in my office. I was driving to work on the 13th and the roofer calls me to tell me that they are just going to toss my satellite dishes since he assumes they're old. Ummmm. NO! I have satellite TV and internet (even though I do have to switch to a faster service for internet soon).
I get home in the 13th and my trash cans and recycling container and other heavy things that belong to them are sitting IN my garden. I get home on the 14th and they're still not done and I find a food container with food and open sauce on the top step of my front porch, plastic water bottles EVERYWHERE in my front yard, coffee cups in my driveway, a pizza box sitting in my yard. Just a general mess. I email Jen. Her response? "Sorry for the inconvenience ".
I get home on the 14th and they're STILL not finished. I have no TV or internet and it's the weekend. The forecast was rain from Sunday through Monday. I guess I'm going back to the office Monday because they won't be working in the rain and predicted strong winds later in the day. Monday morning at 2:00am, I am awakened by what I thought was my cats getting into something. I finally realize what I hear is water dripping. I now have a shower in my living room and kitchen.
I run around to get buckets and a tarp to put over my antique desk that is now wet. I email Jen at 2:30am (because I'm not an inconsiderate jerk to call at that hour) and told her what was happening and she should expect a call from me first thing in the morning. I called her at 8:30am and left her a message. No response. I called her again at 9:30am. No response. I decide to text my sales rep. He did respond and called me as soon as he could. I sent him photos of the damage and the tarps that were just laying in my yard instead of being placed on my roof. I FINALLY get a response from Jen..."sorry for the inconvenience". Inconvenience?!? Really?!?
So, this morning, the 18th, I am walking out of the house to go to work and I see the roofers' truck pull up onto my sidewalk (my car is still in the driveway). I go to take my trash to the curb. The roofers used my trashcans for THEIR trash. Plastic sheets, food, shingles, etc. Did they bring a dumpster? Of course they didn't. They used my trash cans. My town requires trash to be bagged. So, I am standing in my driveway cursing. I walk towards the truck. It takes off and parks a block away on a side street. Coward. I text my rep again to tell him these guys had better bag up their trash properly so that I don't have to. I am paying them after all.
I get home tonight and my tv and internet are not working and there are wires from the satellite hanging in front of a window. Stuff was still sitting in my garden. So, I had to take an entire day off yesterday because I didn't want to come home to a flood in my house. I'm going to have to call AT&T to fix my satellite dish. AND I have to have a public adjuster come to my house to assess the damage their incompetent roofers caused because they didn't put a tarp over my open roof when rain had been predicted over the weekend for DAYS. Just save yourself a lot of aggravation and avoid this company like the plague.

We reached out to Sunrun and the guy that we worked with was based in Utah. They gave us the greatest information and they were very thorough. They had people come out and examine our rooftop and they even flew a drone over the house to take the dimensions of the house. They did a wonderful job of figuring out how many panels we would need and where they would be put on the roof. They also did the permits. They did all the paperwork for Edison and all we had to do was sign a few things, and we could do that right online. They were always right there to help us and answer any questions thoroughly. They did a magnificent job.
Sunrun is also doing constant surveillance on the equipment. There's an antenna that they can go in and look at our usage and system performance. If there are any problems, they know it before we do and they will send someone out. Once a month, they email us with our usage and performance so that we are always up-to-date with how we are doing month to month. It's fabulous. I absolutely love them. They have some remote control over the system to fix any quirks and that's fine with me. I love it.

The experience with Sunrun was very easy. Expectations were not set clearly but ultimately, it was done. Part of the problem was that we purchased a backup battery and when they came to install the panels, they didn't have the backup battery. The people that were installing did not let us know that they didn't have the battery until they were walking to get back in the car. They said, "Oh, by the way, we didn't have the battery. There was no battery available." We had to wait two more months for the battery. That was totally unacceptable because we can't use our system. We had it installed in mid-July and the system didn't get turned on until October because of the delay in the battery. We live in the desert where it gets very hot, and we wanted to have solar to power our HVAC system and it wasn't available until October when we really did need it.

The representative explained it, but then I get periodic emails from them that they keep me up on the technology and my own personal usage, so their follow-through on the service was very good. We are having one hell of a time getting SunRun to live up to and abide by our contract. This is not a new problem and we thought that it had been resolved when we were with Vivint. Our mistake. To begin with, panels were removed from our patio cover to build a new structure. The job was only going to take one week. I sent a message to a specific rep with SunRun that it would only take one week. The job site supervisor for the removal confirmed that the patio would be back up in one week. It took 3 months for SunRun to reinstall the panels.
In the meantime our solar system was completely offline. We were told that there was something wrong with our system, that it was not producing power as expected. That was 6 weeks ago and no one has been out to service them. All the while our true-up is climbing through the roof. In our first year of operations the true-up was $900. We have almost 5 months to go and it's at $2400. If you're thinking about a SunRun system---DON'T. They'll install, but don't expect service or for them to live up to their contract.

I had a very good time with the person who sold me the system and with the people who installed it. I had a new roof put on as well as the solar equipment because my old roof was too old for it. It's been a few months now that the system has been operating and it seems to be functioning correctly. The only thing was my power line to the house from the power pole cut across an area with my roof and the installers couldn't put the panels under that power line so I lost some area of my roof that otherwise would have given me a layout that would have given me about 1,000 more units. Other than that, my system seems to be doing well and has radically reduced my electricity costs as one would hope it would since it sent me back about 18,000. I looked at my first electric bill that went from $110 to $8. So far, I'm totally satisfied with my system and with the people that worked with me from Sunrun.

Sunrun was altogether very well-organized, and responsive. The people installing knew mostly what they were doing. The system is working fine. So I'm altogether satisfied. There was no long wait. The permitting with the city and even the switch by the electric utility were fairly quick. There's one tiny thing that complicates transactions and that's because the tenant is involved. The tenant is paying the actual monthly fee and there's access for only one person to the performance data. So it should be accessible for both the landlord and the tenant. Another concern that I have is the long-term contract that may be affecting the sale of the property in the future.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING SUNRUN. I was introduced to SunRun through Costco while in Home Depot. I have always trusted vendors that operate through these two companies as being thoroughly vetted. The salesman we met with told my family, "We may not be the cheapest, but we will make up for it with superior customer service." My experience with SunRun has been a nightmare. I built a brand-new home and hired SunRun. The initial install was quoted for half a day. The crew was here for three, and when they left, they had only completed a partial install.
The team blamed Sun Run for not supplying them with the necessary parts to complete the installation. An installation crew member explained that he was instructed to "make it work" with what they have. This resulted in the crew cutting untreated 2X4 slats in my driveway to secure solar panels. When the team left, I inspected what I could see from a neighboring lot. It is evident that some of the panels were diagonal and not in line with the others. I climbed a ladder to gain a closer look and found that three panels were not installed at all and were, in fact, just sitting on my roof. I retrieved one without getting on the roof but contacted SunRun about the other two.
It took two days before someone came out to inspect my complaint. These unsecured panels could have blown off at any time and injured someone. I submitted my findings to SunRun, and they attempted damage control by sending a crew out unannounced. I only knew of their existence because I heard someone on my roof. By the time I confronted the crew, they had removed the two unsecured panels and filled the bed of a truck half full of broken tiles retrieved from the roof. The crew asked permission to enter my attic space to inspect the work of the previous crew. I allowed on the condition that they did not take any tools to cover up mistakes made by the last crew. While they were up there, they unplugged my security system. I can only guess they were hoping this would disable recording; however, this only disabled me from accessing the recordings remotely. Locally everything was still being stored.
After seeing the wood and unsecured panels, I decided to hire a third-party home inspection company. What they found was beyond incompetence on SunRun's behalf. After I submitted my finding, SunRun sent another crew out. The gentleman who came out told me that he has been with Sun Run for 14 years, and mine was the worst install he has ever seen. We worked out an agreement that SunRun would hire a nonaffiliated roofer to do any repairs before we continued the solar panel installation. Some days later, it started raining. My roof was full of missing tiles and numerous holes where the original crew attempted to tie into the trusses, missed and left the holes unfilled. My brand-new roof was leaking!
I contacted SunRun through their customer service number because they were ignoring my Emails. SunRun sent a crew out to replace the missing tiles and stop any leaks. At this time, the crew leader informed me that the install job was unsalvageable. They took down everything the original crew had installed and replaced the broken tiles. They assured me that they would do what they were within the scope of their profession. Then the aforementioned unaffiliated roofer would come and make the repairs. The next day the roofer arrived and spent about an hour before leaving. I contacted SunRun and asked for the report from the roofer. To this day, they have not given me the report.
The solar panels have been stored in my garage for months now. SunRun started my install in September, and it’s now mid-January. My driveway is permanently stained from the "make it work" crew, and now I'm having to deal with their legal department because I want to cancel with them. They won't let my family out of the contract because they claim they already installed the same panels stored in my garage. I have filed with the R.O.C, and now I'm trying to warn everyone I can about my experience with SunRun.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, James. We are sorry this was your experience; we would be frustrated too! Please send us a private message with your service address so that we can help you out. Thank you!

After a year and a half of trying to get the panels put back on our roof they gave us every excuse and have still not put them back on. Sunrun/Vivint’s response was that someone will call us back and no one ever did. Yet, still they kept charging our account. After stopping payment, sunrun illegally and without my permission went into our account and turned on auto pay and charged my credit card over $1000. Their reaction was not to worry about it and they would fix it in the long run.
After speaking to over 5 different people and repeating our situation numerous times they are not willing to reimburse us or put our panels back on. I’m not sure how a company can charge a customer, let alone know what to charge the customer when the product is not even on the house. Sunrun/Vivint is horrible and the worst company to do business with.

Sunrun was pretty competitive and they were also endorsed by Costco. So I trusted Sunrun a little more. The sales service was pretty good. Signing up was easy. But then getting Sunrun to install it took a while. They gave me a timeline of all the steps that were gonna happen. It took about a month for them to install the solar panels and then it took another month or so for them to activate it, which I was very frustrated about. Also, it was frustrating that I was never able to have a conversation with my project manager. I kept calling and they always directed me to somebody else. Whenever I emailed her, she would just give me very vague answers.

From the sales to installation to waiting for them to power up with consumable energy, everything with Sunrun was fairly quickly. Everything's running great. Cliff and another person are the ones that I’ve been in contact with and everything, to me, was smooth. When they said, “You’ll hear back in a month or two,” it was a month or two. If they said two weeks, it was within that time. We weren’t in a rush either. Cliff did a great job. Overall, I have seen some cost improvement even though we're in the colder months right now. Here in Illinois, it’s gloomier. I check my bill all the time. I’m paying 35 something with Sunrun, and I was paying ComEd 114. Now, my ComEd bill is in the 60s. So, I'm saving a couple of dollars, and that's what we wanted. Hopefully, in the near future, ComEd goes lower.

Sunrun allowed me to go solar without out-of-pocket expense. When I signed up, their salesperson, Mitchell, was walking around through the different houses here in this brand-new development, and he was a very informative guy and very personable. If he didn't have the answers to the questions, he could get them for me and the process with him went smoothly. Since going solar, if I look at APS, who was my electrical company, and the solar, all in all, there has been some savings although not tremendously. Besides that, not too long ago, I found a piece of plastic down on my patio that I think came off of the panels. I said something to Mitchell and I haven't heard anything back. But other than that, I'm pretty happy with Sunrun.

I don't like people going into my checking account and taking money out. The guy told me that my next payment would due on February 7 and to call them and they'll take my credit card and pay with it. I just don't want to do that every month because in the summertime, we're busy. If I miss a payment, it's not cool. So, they’re gonna have to work something out.

After hundreds of hours on the phone and many different excuses (lies) from their staff, (especially upper management), I've discovered that the new ploy for stealing the contractual money is to manipulate the performance data and change the rules of the previous contracts so they won't have to payback your over payment. I'm paying more right now than I would be if I was paying my electric and gas by paying the extra $51 a month. I wish the sales rep explained things a little better. I wish he told me, “Here's what you can save, or here's what you won't save.” He showed me a graph but it didn't mean much to me. Maybe he should have offered more information. But some of it was my own fault too because I jumped in without really asking enough questions. The installation went fine and the crew was nice. They left a little bit of trash on the roof but it wasn't much so my son took that off. As far as the product, it's probably good. If you're installing solar simply to help the environment, that's fine. But if you’re installing them to save money for yourself, I don't recommend that.

Working with SunRun was good. There were a lot of parts because my father's place needed to get reroofed and it was great because they were able to help us do that part. With the removal of the old system, the putting in of the new system and the timing of everything, they were very patient as well. I appreciate the time they took to go through the motions because it took longer than normal time. Once they installed, then we had to wait for the local electric company to turn it on. So once it was finally turned on, we were like, “Yay!”
The old set up that my father had is still connected to the electric company. This new setup is going through the battery. It is wintertime so we are not getting as much sun as normal. My dad was expecting a dramatic decrease in the bill and hoping that the batteries were sucking up enough juice in addition to providing juice during the day so they wouldn't be tapping into the regular electric company. SunRun said there's a way to monitor but because I have my own system, I can't log into theirs and it's weird not to be able to see what they're producing.
When people are like, "Why are you leasing SunRun's panels" I'm like it's because then they are responsible for the maintenance and that's one less headache on my shoulders. Our system was not generating as much power and it was great for them to call and say, “Hey, we want to check out your system.” And they found out one of the transmitter things wasn't working, so that's why particular panels weren't generating any electricity. I'm like, “Well, I wouldn't have thought to think about that or be checking, ‘Oh! Hey! How come it's going down?’” I just thought, “Hey, we're using more electricity because the kids are home because of COVID.”

It was just a projection and I understood that. But the actual installation didn't happen until September. So that was the only bad thing. I would have liked to have started using my solar panels in the summer when it was sunny every day. I love that Sunrun was started by a bright young woman and she's still the head of things. She has some great ideas and she tries to run a tight ship. The people that work for her seem to really respect her too. Enrolling in Sunrun was bumpy. I needed to be up in the summer and I would really be doing my duty to Mother Earth, which is one of the reasons that I wanted to use the sun. I started talking to them last spring and it was just starts and stops. I wouldn't hear from the salesperson and he was not reliable. He would miss appointments or he screwed up constantly. The job didn't get finished until the third week of November and they're still tweaking it. Those were discouraging.
However, Sunrun means well. It's not the best company in the world but they're trying. Overall, I'm okay with it. But there are things that they don't tell you in the initial discussions that would be very helpful. One of them is the day that they installed the panels, it was excruciatingly noisy and it was terrible. If you have pets, you should plan to put your pets someplace else for the day. Also, they should tell you that when you have snow, it covers the panels and they don't want you to get up there dusting them off. They tell you that a couple of good rains in December will wash them off. But you're losing the sun when the panels are covered with snow. I would still recommend Sunrun to a friend because they try, but I would say, “These are the things you need to look out for.”
I'm still gonna pay rent with Sunrun for their panels. You can buy them if you want to if you want the expense of maintaining them. In my case, I want Sunrun to take charge of all that. There's a technician coming out next week, on the 21st, because something isn't quite right. He keeps tweaking something. Sunrun does want to make it right. The rent is $1 or $2. After that, you start paying rent every month then you're also paying the utility company. For the first couple of years, you might not save much money. But you'll start to build up credits. There's another thing that I really like about Sunrun. I rent their generator and it works. A couple of weeks ago, we lost power two days in a row and the generator came on instantly. That was really nice.

Because I didn't make up my mind the first time I talked to her, I made another appointment to talk to her some more because I had some additional questions and she was very obliging and very professional.
But the installation took a little while. The biggest hang-up wasn't the company but the getting the city permits and things that you need, because the government runs at its own pace. But the gentleman that came out first checked my roof to see if I would need additional new roofing and he did a very thorough job. He okayed my roof as is because it is in good shape, then after that, the gal contacted me again and we talked about a date that they could install. Then, the gentlemen that came out to do the actual job were very efficient. They didn't make any messes and didn't hurt anything on my roof. They were very polite and businesslike.

From the time that I decided to go forward with Sunrun to the time that they came out and did the install was three weeks to a month because it had to get approved from my village and from the electric company. They were out there three days, and it took another couple weeks until the system was up and running. There was some confusion on the backend about the serial number of my panel, and it was not giving me the right data.
Ultimately, it ended up working and it did great for two months. Once winter hit, my electric bill got higher again, but that's because we have a swim spa that runs all day in the winter and uses up a lot of electricity. My electric bill is still lower, but it's not saving too much money now. When I get into the March, April months is where I expect to really see a difference and try to gain some credits with the electrical. That's been my experience so far.
A lot of people don't want something permanently on their house, and the advice that I would give is that everything's turning green. Everyone's always looking for ways to save the planet. Especially if you are in the market for a new roof or recently got a new roof, then this would be the perfect time to do it. I have no regrets for going solar. I did a lot of research and talked to other customers, Realtors and my insurance company. Everybody said it was a good decision to make.

Sunrun gave me a good deal. The boy I worked with was great. The people who put the whole thing together were fast and efficient. It was just the path between Xcel Energy and the whole situation. With the power company, it was always on their time schedule and backed out like two months. Whenever they get to it, they get to it. When I was in the middle and not knowing what was going on, I didn't get a whole lot of help. I got like, "We'll come out and take a look at it." But then, that was not what happened. They were still a little bit lost at that point.
When considering solar, people should not to be in a hurry. Just figure that if you start in the spring, you're going to be lucky if you can start getting money off in the fall/winter. It's not anything that you can rush. So if you're gonna sell your house, you might as well not do it because you're gonna be in the middle of it while you're selling your house.

Once the city inspector came out, everything pretty much moved pretty fast after that. I got my PTO to turn my solar on at beginning of November. But the process started in May and it took a good six months because you have to go through the steps.
I signed up to get the payment automatically debited from my account every single month because it saves you a small portion. The only other difference was I was told my dollar amount was gonna be X amount. But it was about $7 more that came out of my account, which I'm not gonna cry about. Since November, my PG&E bill has still been over $200 every single month, when I was told that it would only be about $10 to $20 just to keep me on the grid because all of my energy would be coming from solar.

But if the battery's big enough to run the whole house, I'd rather have the battery. Plus, they say if you have the battery, you're off the grid. You don't have to have the electric company unless the sun doesn't come out for a whole month or so. A guy was supposed to come by to talk about the battery but I don't know what happened to him. Hopefully, that guy will come tomorrow.
You brightened our day, Ralph! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We're so happy you chose us as your solar provider. We are working on a retrofit solution for existing customers and expanding our home battery solution to more states. As soon as a retrofit is available, we will let our customers know. Welcome to the Sunrun family!

Enrolling was simple and the rep was good. But, customer service absolutely sucks. I have a problem and nobody will get back to me. Nobody has any answers. It's almost like they don't even know their product and they just put it on. It's good, but that's where it ends. “They're on. They're good. You're on the grid. See you.” They need to get ahold of me.

The crew was fantastic. The only problem we had was the first inspector. They usually send out an inspector to check a roof and the first inspector that came by said the roof was okay, and then waited two months. On the first installation attempt, the crew came and the roof was bad. I had to replace my roof and then they came back again a month later to get it done. That was the only hiccup in the whole process. Other than that, everything was smooth. It was a good process.
Thank you for sharing your story, Victor. We're delighted to hear you had a good experience with us, but we're sorry there was an issue with your install. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. Working with the salesman from Sunrun, Dario, was A plus. He was fantastic. After that, everything went downhill. A lot of it was my fault, but there was no follow up. They were asking me to sign forms. I don’t sign forms on the computer. I didn’t even know how. I wish everything would have been done through the mail, and it would have been easier for me. I'm not a computer person. Once my youngest son helped me with it, then it went much smoother. I just wish someone would have called me. I want people contact. I don't want this stuff through the computer. I started it last June, and I’ve only had it two months running. So, Joe came here to work on something that needed to be done. He was outstanding, but the process was F minus.
My youngest son who recommended Sunrun has had a wonderful experience, but so far, I’m not impressed. I saw a reduction in the first billing, and then last month, our PG&E bill was 357. I’ve never had a bill in the winter for that high. In the summer, we like our air conditioning. We get some outrageous bills, and that was why I went into solar. I’m hoping with the next billing cycle, that it would show a difference. I just want a lower electricity bill. My mind is not run like that. We're paying all this money, and I can't see any results. Leaving out Dario and Joe, I wouldn’t recommend Sunrun. The rumor is that they have gotten so big that there's some greed involved, and I agree with that. My experience was terrible.
We're sorry to hear this, Lynnetta. Savings will vary widely based on your usage, location, etc., but we definitely want to make sure you're getting the most out of your solar system. Please send us a private message with your service address so that we can look into this for you. Thanks!

My Sunrun system is producing almost the same as it used to, but Edison changed their rules for what they charge and what they pay for your production. I’d have to put on a bigger system and make it work. But I just had Sunrun's reps out because I wasn't getting any readout on my system and they fixed my readout. Other than that, their salesman lied to me. Getting things up and running took almost a month longer than it should have because they couldn't get the right paperwork out. I had to go to the house every time they had to come out and do an inspection and it was an absolute pain. So I was paying for the system before I even was producing anything.
All in all, the system works fine and everyone who came out was nice. I would also love to recommend them because I could make $1,000 every time, but I wouldn't recommend them because the salesman said different things which never happened and I didn't like the amount of time it took for them to get anything approved.
We are so sorry to hear this! We would love to review your system's performance and any other specific concerns you have. Please send us a private message with your service address, and we will have a representative reach out. Thank you!

Snow guards have been installed, and we appreciate it and hope they help when the snow comes. It would have been helpful to know prior to signing the contract that this is a problem with snow, and that we would be responsible to pay for the solution. Also, if after contacting customer service, if indeed a solution had been in the works for 8-10 months, it would have been helpful for that to have been communicated to us. Instead we had to reach out, even to our sales representative, numerous times. Hopefully this is a great product for us, but better customer service would definitely have increased our confidence in this company.

We had our Sunrun solar panels installed the beginning of 2021. Faulty design issues allow our entire roof full of snow to slide onto our porch roof and sidewalk with tremendous force that causes the entire house to shake, which may cause damage to a historic home and injury to pedestrians. (We have lived here for almost 25 years and never had this problem.) After continued reaching out, customer service has taken about 9-10 months to respond with a solution, and said they would provide a solution that will only help, but not solve the problem and it will be at our expense of $300-400.
We are still waiting for that and are now into the snowy season. Due to the possible injury to those who walk by, we need to put up caution tape, which blocks the walkway, whenever we have snow. We are the first home on our street to go solar, and our neighbors are concerned with the situation. I would never recommend this company due to their lack of concern for possible damage to our home and the safety of individuals.

I signed up at Home Depot and they did their presentation. It was good and they told us about the different numbers and everything that was like cost savings and what was going to be produced. Also, they had some good incentives. Sunrun's process was really easy. It went really well. I'm very satisfied.

Being with Sunrun has been great. They installed my system the day after Labor Day and the guys were so polite and professional. They were in and out by the time they said they were gonna be. My solar power has supplemented my energy and lowered my bill, not only by half. I'm completely satisfied.

The installation was good. But Sunrun hasn't given the documents to the power grid, which delayed at least two months for me. And they said they will pay for my first month installment, that 823, because the delay is from their side. But I have not received the check. We have hooked up to Green Mountain. They don't have a buyback if we are taking nights free. That's okay. One month, it has come to 73. And the other month, it has gone up to 125. When I checked, they said the solar panels are not generating as much as it was expected. The capacity might have been miscalculated. Otherwise, everything is fine. Sunrun has given a good service. The people are good.

The sales guys were excellent. When the technician came in, he did the inspection but didn’t turn off my batteries. When we had a power outage, we had a problem. Sunrun's customer service is slow. When I call in, somehow, they don’t talk to each other. But Sunrun has come by and took care of the issue. They did it quickly. I’m happy after the fix.
