Our roof has leaked 3 times since installing and ONLY where the solar panels are attached. We live in a drought area so we rarely experience any measurable rain, let alone heavy downpours. We just experienced heavy rains for the first time in several years about a week ago and Sunrun is refusing to repair the leaks now because it is now over 5 years. FYI, our roof is tile shingles that have an estimated lifespan of 50 -75 years and ours is only 10 years old. Solar was installed 8 years ago. We have had NO other leaks and all 3 times (this is the 3rd time) the leaks occurred ONLY where there are solar panels attached. Sunrun is clearly to blame, but is refusing to repair the leaks they caused. To make matters worse, they are telling us in order to repair the roof, our roofer is not allowed to remove Sunrun’s panels so we must now pay Sunrun to remove the panels AND a roofer.
Basically, had we not had Sunrun install their panels, we would not be having roof leaks. Unfortunately, since we live in "drought country" it takes more time to discover leaks because it takes a heavy rain for us to notice the leaks. And I'm not talking minor leaks. The first two times, water was pouring out of our light fixture and we had tons of buckets in the attic until they came out. By the way, they are telling us we have to pay them to remove the panels, but when they came out to make repairs, they didn't remove the panels, they "patched" from inside the attic. Could be why it's leaking again!
Additional reasons to avoid SUNRUN: 1. Energy costs are not necessarily cheaper under their set-up and may, in fact, increase your costs over traditional utilities. 2. There’s no way to accurately measure if you are saving money. Sunrun utilizes “their own” calculations which cannot be reconciled by anyone. It’s the fox guarding the hen-house. Power companies have no way of seeing all your electricity usage with solar so they can’t tell you what your costs would have been without solar. You can compare what you paid annually before solar to what you pay after solar, but there’s no way to determine which would be cheaperafter the first year. In our case, we paid a little less with solar in the first year. The second year, we broke even. The third year forward, we are consistently averaging $100 more per month with solar. 3. It is not uncommon for Sunrun’s representatives to mislead consumers.
In my town alone, I know of several people who have had to sue Sunrun to have their panels removed and their roofs repaired. In all cases, Sunrun’s installers damaged roofs and the systems resulted in increased costs. In one of the cases, costs increased by over $300 per month. One more thing to watch out for. The Sunrun rep told us we were leasing the system to own in 20 years. What they actually did was “sell” us energy at a predetermined rate. Under the contract, they estimated the amount of energy the panels will produce and charge for that amount each month.
Here’s the fun part... There’s an annual “reconciliation” with both Sunrun and your energy provider. If your panels produce more energy than Sunrun estimated, you owe them at the end of the year. Now, they will tell you that you will probably get money back from your power company at the end of your fiscal year... We typically OWE Edison $1,200 to $1,500 each year. Why? Because as a solar customer, you only pay the monthly taxes which amount to about $1 or $2. At the end of your annual term, you get billed for any additional energy that you used beyond what your solar panels provide.
So, it’s possible to receive hefty bills from both Sunrun and your power provider... which we have!! Now, if your panels under-produce, Sunrun will give you a refund. That doesn’t mean you’re still not going to be billed by your power provider. We have received a few small refunds... usually after hours of arguing and complaining to Sunrun, but as far as we can tell, we are still paying every bit as much if not more than we would be paying with Edison. (That’s without the roof repairs included which we wouldn’t have needed without the solar panels.). For the record, we have not changed our usage, nor added additional appliances or systems since adding solar. I'm done trying to figure out if I'm getting any savings... But I really wish this company would stand by their product and installation and fix the leaks they caused.
Thank you for the review, Julia. We certainly hear your concerns over your roof leaking. 5 years is the standard roof warranty for most solar companies, we're sorry to hear that you are now outside of that window. We also understand your savings concerns and would be more than happy to address those more personally with you. A specialist will be reaching out to you shortly!

We were thinking about looking into solar energy services and our neighbor had Sunrun installed. He was very pleased so we thought we would do the same and we decided it sounded like a good idea. It was very easy getting started with Sunrun. Also, I have had very little interaction with their customer service. There hasn't been a need. We're very happy with our decision to go solar and we're very happy with Sunrun.

Signed up with Sunrun in mid-March for a system generating 60% of my power needs. Agreed to share in the cost of some roof repairs, and waited for the permits to come in, which happened by early May. Then nothing happened for 4 months, no phone calls/emails from Sunrun - Zip. In late September a few folks show up and do the roof repair. Then another month passes. In mid-October Sunrun shows up to put on the solar panels. They get about half of them installed on the roof, and then take everything off and leave, with a short note on the front door saying a "design flaw" prevented installation.
Another month passes, and they come back and install a much smaller system (38% of power for the house). They get the ok from the power company, and today they said to turn on the system. Surprise, Surprise. Zip, nothing happens, no power, no flashing lights, nothing. Some troubleshooting from the on-line service center says parts of the system do not seem to be connected or working. The installation was never completed. If you want a company to install a thousand pound paperweight on your roof, then Sunrun is your company. Otherwise slam the door in their face and go with someone else.
Thanks for the feedback, Jerry. We certainly can understand your frustration with the many delays that you encountered. This is outside the Sunrun norm. We definitely want to get to the bottom of these system issues for you. A specialist will be reaching out to you shortly.

Going solar was cheaper so I started looking into solar energy services and ended up with Sunrun. I enrolled with them over the phone and the process was fine and very easy. Everybody was very polite and communication was wonderful. I always had emails or phone calls telling me what was gonna happen, when it was gonna happen, where I wanted it to come out of, what bank account, etc. The whole process from the time that we signed the paperwork to have the solar panels put in until it was finished, everybody communicated. Since then, I pay less for my electrical bill. I'm extremely satisfied with going solar and my experience with Sunrun has been fine. Every month, they send me a notice as to when they’re taking the money out, they take it out and everything is fine.
Thank you for the review, Linda! We are so pleased to hear that going solar was such an easy process for you. Working with Sunrun was such a frustrating experience and I still don't understand what's going on. I paid off the entire $20,000 loan but I never heard a word from the loan company. I haven't gotten a payoff notice. I'm sure I've overpaid and they haven't said a word to me. Also, I understand it's the salesperson's job to say whatever it is he can say to get a sale. But he told me that I would only need six feet of wall in my garage. He went out and measured it, and everything was fine. But when the engineer came, stood in the garage and said it was not enough. He said he needed eight feet. I asked would four feet and four feet be enough but he said he needed the whole wall. I had cabinets full of all my gardening equipment. I had to go out there, take all my stuff out of the cabinet, pull the cabinet out myself, drag the cabinet out to the curb and call to get somebody to come pick it up.
They did a good job on the roof when they installed the system. Everything matches the cement tiles on my roof. They were also very friendly. The engineer finished the installation. But I was frustrated over losing a cabinet in my garage that I really needed, not knowing about this ahead of time and being totally surprised about it. I also asked the engineer questions but I still don't understand how the thing works. All I know is that there's a battery and there are lights that go off and on. I have researched online about the equipment and the company that made the equipment to try and understand how it works.
I chose Sunrun initially because it was from Costco and I am assuming that my bills from SDG&E is gonna keep going up. But now, I've given up and figured I've been screwed. They have some girl who has called me from Colorado a couple of times. I told her everything that's been a problem but there is nothing she can do. She's some customer service person but she has no clue what's going on.

We were looking into solar energy services and found out about Sunrun from one of my husband's friends from work. We had a pretty good experience enrolling with them and it was easy. Plus, they're easy to get a hold of when we have an issue. When we had a problem with the breaker, they came over and worked on it within the next day. We've saved a lot of energy when we changed to solar.

I've been looking for solar energy services for a few years already. Another company gave me a quote and included upgrading my electrical service to 150 amps, when Sunrun didn't. So, I felt like I was rushed into it as far as that subject. But Sunrun was backed up by Costco and had a much more reasonable arrangement compared to Solar City. Sunrun's rep that came to our house explained everything nicely and I liked it. After they've nailed down the date, they went here with the crew and the equipment and installed everything within the day.
So far, I'm satisfied with it and things has been going as expected. We were putting electricity back into the grid a few months ago. We're down in the red right now because of the rain and smog in the winter time, but we expect to go back up after winter. And since going solar, I've been getting more conscious about how we could use gas or electricity and have been moving some stuff that runs in gas to an electric one. In fact, I've got my second electric car.

When approached by Sunrun representative, I was given the impression (and I think the contract talks about it) that I will be saving money as Sunrun will charge monthly a fixed amount which will increase yearly by a small amount. So I got the panels installed (cost to be adjusted against monthly billing over a period of 20 years). The monthly bill remained what I was promised but suddenly I started getting JCP & L bills - which started with $5-$6 and consistently started increasing to the extent that the latest bill is over $200.00. I was paying average $100 before I got Sunrun and now I pay Sunrun $70/Month and to JCP & L anything between $40 to $150. Average. This makes my monthly bill much higher than what I was paying without Sunrun. Can someone explain or advise course of action.
Thank you for the review, Sam! We certainly hear and understand your savings concerns. It can be really difficult to see a positive impact on those utility bills during certain parts of the year due to the seasonality of solar! My daughter came over and we found the Sunrun brochure. And then, we started the process of going through signing up. I worked with everybody that was in the name of Sunrun. Their reps came out and took some pictures of some trees that we had planted out here. Sunrun has wonderful personnel and we’re happy with them. We love Sunrun. However, one of the agencies thinks that because of my tall trees, I'm impeding the amount of energy that is going on their light ray and so, I owe them more money because of that fact.
Thank you for the review, George! We are so elated to hear of your wonderful experience you had with Sunrun. We've been thinking about solar energy services for quite a while and just hadn’t gotten around to it. We looked at some other companies and weren’t impressed with the people who were presenting. They didn’t have answers to our questions. The gentlemen from Sunrun came to the door and they were knowledgeable, super nice and awesome but mainly, energy sustainability was important to us as well as the cost. Electricity just keeps going up. Everything went beautifully during enrollment and they kept us updated on everything. We were not sitting there in the dark not knowing what was going on. The whole process was over in five weeks. It impressed us with how quickly they got it through the homeowners' association and everything else. I went to work one morning, I came home and it was done perfectly. They cleaned up and I couldn’t have asked for more from them.
Our bills are lower but we’re paying for the solar panels so it hasn’t impacted us that much. Still, sustainable energy is something that we all need to be working towards. We have grandchildren, so this is really important to us that we set an example for them and that we are looking out for the future. We're super happy with the panels and we’re glad that we did it. I'm recommending Sunrun to everyone I know as far as going solar. They were easy to deal with and everyone was nice. I wish there were more companies out there doing other things that could take the example of Sunrun because they’re phenomenal. They know what they're doing and they knew the answers to any question that we asked. If they hadn’t known the answers, somebody would have gotten back to me with something right away. They did everything that they said they were going to do and did everything above my expectations.
Thanks for the review, Cara! We are so ecstatic to hear that your journey into solar went so well! We aim to be customer obsessed, which means being with you every step of the way and making sure we get you an answer to any and all of your questions. We have had SunRun for over 4 years. The system has never produced what they promised in their contract. This year the system has barely produced half of what they promised in their contract. They were supposed to rebate the cost of the lost power, but they are still charging me. They were supposed to replace the panels which are apparently defective, but there has been no repair or replacement. The installation produced many holes in my ceiling. I have open beam ceilings, so I could see all the holes. This year some of the holes began leaking and I had to pay a roofer to seal the leaks. They are so cordial, but my frustration is significant.
ESTIMATED PRODUCTION: 232,144 kWhs. GUARANTEED PRODUCTION: 220,537 kWhs. Production to date per their website (December 2018) is 6760 kWhs."

I have an electric car and I was told that if I have an e-car, Sunrun will save me some energy, I'll use lesser energy, so it sounded like a good plan. Sunrun's sales rep was very responsive. He kept in touch in the email and he answered every question and concerns that I had. It took me one-half month to decide but he was very good. I decided to go through with Sunrun to make the payment and the other process. The second person I dealt with coordinated with the government. I made a reservation but the government people cannot find my home so I had to reschedule after two times of making an appointment. However, something else happened. The rep who coordinated called me and said he felt very sorry that I had to go through the process twice. He said he will give me $300 credit since it has caused me some troubles. The third time, they finally succeeded in installing the system.
After some time, I double-checked and I didn’t receive the promise that their rep said. I emailed back and the coordinator I talked to said he didn’t know about it. The person who made the promise didn’t specify it. I felt bad but I became fine. After that, my Sunrun started. It took some time to start my system since it needed some government stuff. But currently, it's making some electricity. If somebody would contact me about the solar system, I would refer Sunrun to them. The installation and the government approval process was painful and the guy who made a promise didn’t pay. Nonetheless, Sunrun is a good company.

It was really convenient to get enrolled with Sunrun. My roof needed to be done over and they worked to accommodate me. They helped me get a new roof in and did the panels. It was not a lengthy process. It was rather good and the customer service was on point. It was very good because they kept me abreast of each step of the way. They called to check if each step was completed within the time that they said it was gonna be completed. And even after it was completed, they still called and checked to see if I was fully satisfied with the service. So I really like their customer service. They've connected everything and I pay my bill each month. And it’s been good. It’s been saving. I’ve even been trying to get all of my friends in with Sunrun. Sunrun came out and inspected my roof and said it was good to go for solar installed. The first rain after the install my roof was leaking like a some. Sunrun sent out a tech and it was determined that the roof was bad and solar should have never went on it. I have had my insurance company and 3 different roofing companies come look at my roof and everyone has said the same thing... Nothing should of gone on the roof. Now every time it rains it pours into my house.
Sunrun told me at first that it would be 6500.00 to remove and reinstall the panels. I threw a fit and the case manager agreed the panels would come off and be put back at no charge due to the fact that they never should of been put on to begin with. I have been dealing with this since mid-September and it's now December. Every time I call I spend over an hour on hold and have gotten zero results. Every time it rains there is more damage to my home... Very disappointed, very disgusted! Free indoor pool with Sunrun solar.

I wanted to try and save money on my electric bill, so I started looking into solar energy services. I saw Sunrun at a Home Depot store and because of their availability there, and being able talk to someone in the store without being obligated, I decided to enroll with Sunrun. Signing up with them was easy but it took a year and a half before we actually got serviced. There were a lot of factors why. First, we waited for the equipment to come in from Korea. Next, it went through customs. Then, we waited for the permit and the weather several times.
So far, we noticed that we didn't get a big enough system and we're only getting about 75% of the power we thought we were gonna get. So, we're still paying quite a bit for electricity. But we're stuck with Sunrun. I have a friend who has Sunrun too and they said that after one year, they may be able to re-evaluate it and add additional equipment. However, I don't know if that is what's specified in our contract. It would also be nice if Sunrun's website contained more information. It only shows us what we've produced the next day after and it could only give a daily or monthly or yearly production. It doesn't show anything about what we're consuming or what's being sent to the grid or what we should be getting credit for.

It's very expensive to run air conditioning, so my electrical bill was really high. I also wanted to get some things. Then, I started looking into how to save energy, save expenses, and be more healthy with the earth. I came up with solar panels and I decided to go with Sunrun. The process of enrolling with them was lengthy and I thought it was gonna be faster. I also had problems with the billing. Once the system was in place, my bill came out really high and I had problems with PG&E, which is the electrical company.
Then, it got fixed. But it was an odyssey and it would've been better if there was a timeline of when things were gonna happen and they made it clearer how things were gonna work. That way, the customer will not be guessing when it's gonna start, how long it will take, how many parties are involved, and who they need to talk to. Other than that, Sunrun's customer service reps were very friendly and they tried to help me with the questions that I had. But I think they were not aware of solutions, so it took quite a while. Still, I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar.

I was promised a cost not to exceed the cost per month on solar energy once I installed it based on the number of panels that they would do against the previous year's usage. I have never had it near that since it was installed. My experience with submitting with Sunrun was fine but it wasn't till after I agreed to do it and it was installed that I found the inequity that occurred with what was going on by being lied to by the salesman and not putting in enough panels to handle the load we were promised.
We were supposed to get a 10% oversize just for a safety factor which is the maximum allowable I was told, and we didn't get it. They would never do anything about it. I found that APS, our provider, is not crediting the credits to the right times of the day. They're putting most of it on optic instead of ontic to offset the high rate. That's not happening and nobody seems to wanna give me an answer to that. It's been a total disaster and I'm still in the dark as to what is going on. I asked when I am supposed to be running my high-usage items like the washer and dryer, pool filter and stuff like that. I also asked at what hour should I be running it to get the best advantage of the solar and I got two different stories. One says run it during peak time and one says run it during optic. I still don't have an answer to that. They wanna sell you the solar but nobody seems to know how it operates.
They rectified some of the things and gave me a 10% reduction in my bill to offset the lack of the 10% increase in panels that they were supposed to give me. I was told by the salesman that they could waive the automatic withdraw which supposedly, if you pay online or with a check, it would cost you $15 a month more. I told them I wouldn't sign the contract unless they got it waived and he promised to get it waived. It took months to get it waived but they finally did that.
Sunny Energy, the contractor, did a good job installation-wise and everything. They did a better job than what I've seem Sunrun do as far as installations go. None of the people from Sunrun seemed to have answers when you call and ask them questions. I've sent my APS bills to them, everything else, and they still beat around the bush and can't give you answers. I've had to file a complaint against them which was the only way I was able to get resolution with some of my problems. I went into solar since I’m retired and it was a lease program so I didn’t have to pay for it. Solar is still in its infancy and there is no return on investment that they’re putting on people. The sales department need to give people more information and knowledge about how it operates. If they give them the truth, they won't sell as many.
Thank you for the feedback, John. We certainly understand your concerns regarding system production and how that relates to your utility. We always recommend running your dishwasher or doing laundry during your utility's off peak periods of time, regardless of whether or not you have solar. We had Sunrun come out and we listened to what they had to say. It was the only company we interviewed about solar, which was a mistake. We should have contacted more to get more feedback. We have not had a really good experience with the whole thing. We signed up in May, but it was not installed until August or September. It took about three to four months to even get the system on our roof and getting anyone to let us know what was going on was a challenge. We were in constant contact with them, but the rep couldn't give us any real good answers other than, “It takes time.” Sunrun contracted with somebody else to put up the system eventually. We've had several emails from them saying our system was offline and they would send somebody out to fix it. They had somebody come out the last time and put another inverter on.
We are not even sure if the system is totally working at this point and it has cost more than we ever thought it would. They told us our electric bill from the electric company would only be $20-$30, and it has been as high as $60-$80. Plus, we are paying for the lease on the equipment, so it has not been a good experience. If I had known more, I probably would not have signed up for it. The customer service reps were not helpful. If I send an email, it might be two to three weeks before I even get a response. They acknowledge a lot of the emails I send in like a robot, but it's unacceptable to take that long to follow up. It's not good customer service. The problem now is the system is on the roof and I have no choice but to stay with Sunrun and endure all this craziness.
I would tell my friends to get more than one person's feedback on different systems. My experience with Sunrun has not been good since the beginning. The guy that came out to sell it to us looked up a picture of our house and I said that it was not our house. He said that we would have to use it and when the installers went to do it, they said that was not our house and that they could not put it on. They had to reconfigure. I told them that we tried to tell that to the sales guy but he kept telling us that we were gonna save money. I'm supposed to have solar on my roof, but I'm still spending more money than I did when I had just straight electric. I didn't gain anything.
Thank you for the feedback, Joan. We certainly hear your concerns regarding savings and your system performance. We're sorry to hear about what initial troubles you had with your sales rep, that is definitely not the customer service we aim to provide. We'd be more than happy to discuss your concerns directly. I think Arizona should be a solar state and enrolled with Sunrun. It was super easy. Everything was great with my interactions with their reps. Plus, the installation experience was wonderful. Since then, I've referred three other people and they've already got theirs up. It took six weeks to get the solar panels up and running though, which was a while. Sunrun is a good company.

We had a solar energy service at our last house and the house before that. So, we were in the market for it in our current home. When we enrolled with Sunrun, it was easy. We were supposed to be up and running in July but we ended up with having a bad battery, then we had something else that was bad in the main control unit. We didn't get up and running until by the end of October, which was kind of interesting because I had to pay the bill since supposedly it was released. It was disheartening. But being in Hawaii, it's really hard to get parts and what-not, so there's a time lapse, which we understand. Also, my interaction with Sunrun's customer service rep was good
Thank you for the review, Marci! It's always nice to hear from our customers that are no strangers to solar. Sunrun was doing the work in a couple of places in the neighborhood and a next door neighbor had them installed. They were offering an incentive and I listened to the sales guy's spiel. I was impressed by what it was, what it could save, and how it would work, but the guy who sold it to me was a butthead. He made a deal with me then he reneged on the deal like it was never mentioned or we never made it. It just pissed me off that he would do that. He agreed to it and then he turned around and said, "No, I never said, no." Then he left or went on leave for some personal reason and his boss finally took over.
I kept complaining and they finally gave me what it was they were supposed to give me. Then the sales guy called me back later for a reference and I told him that that I won't give a reference for him. While the sales sucked, the install was perfect and incredible. The guys who came out and set it up were great. They did the install in one day and it was really done well. Now, I don't have much of any electric bill. So except for the sales guy, my experience with Sunrun was great.
Thank you for the review, Gary! Wanting to decrease cost, I looked into solar energy services. Sunrun came through Costco and enrolling with Sunrun was excellent. I researched other businesses and it was hard to beat Costco's backups. From the time of ordering, they took about a month to get the solar panels up and running. The installation was first class right off the bat. They made modifications and changed engineering drawings when they found that it was going to be difficult to place the original panels on my roof owing to a big tree that I have. So, they made corrections mid-course. Then I had one panel that had an inverter which was not working properly. They came right out and replaced it.
Everybody with Sunrun was exceptionally good from the initial sales contact person to the follow-up people, to the engineering people, to the people that actually put the panels on the roof, and the technical people. Everybody showed up in a clean truck with a uniform and an ID and they introduced themselves. They also called before they arrive. They constantly checked back with me to make sure everything was going well. Everybody knew their business, knew their stuff, and was highly trained. I'm very much satisfied in my decision of going solar and I have an excellent experience with Sunrun.
Thank you for the positive review, Philip! We are delighted to hear that your experience from start to finish was so impeccable! I was looking to cut my electrical bills because I have a multi-family home. All the utilities are paid by me. I have some family members that have solar panels and they raved about solar energy and how much it saved them, so I decided to look into it. I had a few companies come in, but I wasn’t feeling the vibe of the person that came to talk to me about it. I felt like I was being pushed into going with that company.
My panels were put in in April of 2018, however, I haven’t really seen any decrease in my bills outside the summer months when it’s extremely sunny. Sunrun has sent somebody around a few times since I had it. I’ve had somebody come three times to check the system because they feel that it’s not working adequately, but when they checked it, they said that everything is running fine. They had another supervisor come out and look at the trees. He said that they should’ve taken down some of these trees and that they should’ve informed me to take down the branches that hang over my property in the back. They were supposed to get back to me, but I haven’t heard a word from them since.
I haven’t been with Sunrun for a year and I’m not very happy with it because I got solar panels to cut down on my electric bill, but my electric bill is still showing over a hundred. My last month’s bill was $131, so I don’t see Sunrun is doing me any good to have the solar panels. They should’ve not offered me because when I first bought the house in 2015, I tried to get solar, but they told me I wasn’t qualified. Some of the trees in the property behind me were taken down, but there is still not enough sunlight coming through. I don’t think they should’ve ever put the panels in and I felt I got duped.
Sunrun's customer service reps are very polite and accommodating on the phone. They’ve reached out to me a few times to see if I would be home or I would be available for someone to come and look at the system and get the new access to the box inside. The supervisor that came out said that they needed to take more tree branches down, but it is a very costly project and I don’t have the extra money. That was something that should’ve been told to me upfront before I made the decision. There was an abandoned house sitting behind us and they had been out earlier and they surveyed me and said that I had so many trees across the backyard. The house had been cleared out and redone and all the trees had been removed. They said that the space was more open then, so they came back out and they convinced me that I had enough clearance for sunlight to come true where solar panels would be beneficial for me to get.
They also sent the roof people to pre-set the roof for the panels and they were a little rude and very sloppy. After they finished, they never even said they were leaving. We just happened to look and they were gone. They also didn’t clean up, so I called the company and let them know. I didn’t appreciate them leaving their mess in my driveway. My car was in the driveway and I got nails and stuff. But Sunrun was accommodating and they gave me a $200 gift check for my inconvenience because my sons and I went out and cleaned up the mess that they left behind. I was not happy with what they did. I just got my electric bill and I was in the process of calling and having the discussion on it because this is really not saving for me. I’m still paying over $250 a month and we are paying the solar bill and my electricity provider, so I don’t see any savings there.
Thank you for your feedback, Cynthia. We are deeply disheartened that solar has not panned out for you the way that you were hoping. It sounds like those trees definitely may be causing some issues for us. When we purchased the house, we had to transfer ownership from the previous owner to myself. The process was easy and it just needs some documents. I have been using Sunrun for a year now. We needed additional panels because the previous owner of our house was just by herself, and we’re a family of six so we use more than we have. When our inverter stopped working, we were still under contract. So I had to call it in and have it replaced which took about a month.

Sunrun is a pretty big name but a coworker who used the program through Costco first talked to me about it. I also had a Costco membership then I started doing the research and comparing the cost. The electrical rates are going up as well, so that got me looking at getting solar energy services more intently. I liked the cashback benefit from Costco if I went with Sunrun and when I compared some other providers, there were additional benefits in using the Costco program. So, I decided to go with Sunrun.
Their overall process was a little bit disappointing as far as initially getting the quote and finally getting the installation completed so you can turn on the system. They have a weird setup where you get passed off several times to a half a dozen different people as you move through the process. There was a lot of red tape and different hoops you have to jump through as well as a lot of moving parts that had to be coordinated. But things happened as expected and the process was relatively painless. When I had concerns, the customer service I received from their reps was above par and they usually resolved my issues within a phone call or two. All individuals were specialized in their area of responsibility, so they knew what they were talking about. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with my decision to go solar and I have no regrets.
Thank you for the review, Timothy! We are thrilled to hear of your satisfaction in going solar with Sunrun. I was in my backyard one day and the guy from Sunrun, Zack, came up to my house. He was out in the area and I had looked into solar a year before but the company that I was trying to work with never came through, so I was already interested. I’m not a tree hugger but I hate paying big power companies money. With my bills going up and the sun’s there pretty much everyday, why not use it. So, Zack came at the right time that day and I signed up with them.
They came for the installation a week early and they called me two days before the date that they were going to come out to put the panels on the house. So, that was great with me. Their rep said that they had an opening which was on a Friday morning and he wanted to know if they could come that Friday. I told him they could and they did. They were here on time and they were here all day. When they were done, there was no mess left and they didn’t damage anything. It was a really good experience.
Right now, I’m still waiting on things to level out a little bit and I know it takes a little time for the power company bill to go down, but we’re working on it. I have seen a drop from what I was paying so far, but I’m still waiting to see it even out where the power company’s paying me. I’ve heard a lot about solar and with everything from the guy that came out and signed me up to the people that put it in, I didn’t feel like I’ve been misled in any way bu Sunrun. I was also very pleased with the installation and I’m glad I did it. Other than that, Sunrun stayed in touch with me throughout the process. If you leased equipment from them, they will inform you, otherwise you don't know the system is malfunctioning until you receive your electric bill. I opted for a 25-year lease with the costs rising 3% per year, when I was told PG&E costs would rise 6% per year. What I was not told about was the PG&E true up bill. To my surprise PG&E sent me a hefty bill after our first year of use. I was not only irritated but now Paramount was not a defunct company and no longer in the Solar industry. So went the years of not knowing who my solar company was nor was I aware of the performance of my panels.
Fast forward to 2018, I tried to sell my home. Most if not all buyers are not interested in taking over a lease. My realtor tried to market the panels as best she could however no interested buyers. The only offer we did receive rescinded as soon as he began inquiring about the lease. Finally after several weeks on the market my spouse and I made the decision to purchase the panels outright. We had panels installed (September) and have yet been able to turn them on. We have been told that they are waiting on the county before the electric company will come out to put a meter on so that we can turn the system on. Everyone has been very nice from the sales rep to the install guys but we would LOVE to be able to understand why we cannot use a service that we should have had by now. We even asked about the panels being removed and that was a no-go apparently. I'm not telling you to avoid SunRun but make sure you have every detail of who could possibly slow things down for you before you get panels installed. We are simply frustrated and the chain of emails that have gone back and forth between my husband and our representative have gotten us nowhere. Right now we are stuck with panels on our home and a high electric bill... Of which neither are okay.
Thank you for the feedback, Erica. We certainly understand your concerns over these post-install delays. There are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes to reach permission to operate from the utility company, and a lot of it is just a waiting game. We apologize that you've been caught up in this and hopefully that utility will be out to install that meter soon! We would still love the opportunity to look into this ourselves and see what can be done to move this along. A specialist will be reaching out to you shortly!

I did some research, and Sunrun looked like it is the best place to get solar panels, so we selected them and that went well. Then the Sunrun team came out on schedule and installed all the panels, and that was excellent. Enrolling with them was a little more difficult though. After the installation, we kept getting three emails every three or four days from Sunrun, yet it wasn't clear to us what they wanted us to do. I would call them up and they would tell me to ignore those so I did. Three days later, I'd get three more emails again saying I needed to do something and I'd call them up again and they'd tell me that I didn't owe them any money or anything. Their app was a mess. Their system allows me to read something and then send it somewhere, and there was nothing that really gave me any details like, "You gotta go to page five and do this. And page 10, do this."
It was only after two months of receiving twenty emails from Sunrun that we actually figured out what we needed to do, and we did it yesterday or a day before. They just wanted us to go through a certain set of steps online to accept whatever the PG&E statement was. Sunrun has this thing called DocuSign and that was where the confusion was. But eight hours after we sent in what we needed to send, it came back and said that everything is okay. We finally got the go-signal. Still, the net of it was that part of the transaction, where we kept getting those emails, was horrible and unacceptable. Nevertheless, the panels have been working fine for about three months now and we're very pleased with the solar system. We like Sunrun and I would not do any other solar energy system than theirs. Still, they need to kinda clean up their act on what's really required.
Thanks so much for your feedback, Mike. We certainly understand your frustrations with those multiple confusing emails you received. We are sorry for the miscommunication and back and forth you had to go through. There are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes when going solar, and this can cause some confusion. We're happy to hear that you made it through the hiccups though and that things have been going well since. We will definitely take your feedback and use that to improve ourselves for future projects. Thanks so much for choosing Sunrun, and thanks for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

I am happy with the panels because I wanted solar and the crew was very polite and friendly. However, I have had roof leaks associated with the panels, at the same place and am concerned about the damage to my roof and ceiling. I have called again, this year and a crew will be sent, but I am very worried about this ongoing problem.

I had a problem with the the shrubbery and they sent me a new check right away. They took care of everything. I would tell others to try Sunrun.

For about a year I’ve been having issues with a roof leak. They came twice to do some repairs and still leaking. Now they claim it wasn’t the instructions. After calling the company they told me to hire a third party contractor to make the necessary repairs and they would reimburse the cost. Unfortunately, the contractor can’t remove the panels for the repair. So now Sunrun came back again and after opening a wall in upstairs room they found the leak right under the panels. They don’t return my calls, no repairs yet and I’m out $1200. Got to love this company???

My daughter had had a good experience with Sunrun. Plus, they were endorsed by Costco, which was important. Their reps were nice and everybody answered the questions. Everything went smoothly with the enrollment. The guy recommended that we get twice as many panels, but my husband did some research and found out we didn't need that many. It has worked fine without twice as many. Our roof is probably about 2,000 feet from one side to the other and the panels go the length of our roof.
It took eight weeks to get the panels up and running. The installation was fine though. They did it really quickly and took one day. And they were very good about everything. The system cost us $16,000. It's nice not to have to pay any electric bill though. We can turn up the heat or the air conditioner without guilt. Plus, we feel like we're contributing to society by not using energy that's made by coal.
Thank you for the review, Irene! We appreciate you sharing your experience. It sounds like everything went swimmingly for you. I’m always looking into something to save me money and to save on energy costs. I was checking out solar and the Sunrun rep whom I spoke with was friendly. He was able to explain well on how everything goes and what they will do. However, the overall waiting for when we can turn it on was a little discouraging because it was between PG&E and Sunrun. When we talked to PG&E, they were telling us that we gotta talk to Sunrun, so there was a bit of miscommunication going on. As of now however, I’m not seeing much difference, cost-wise. Still, for us, everything is good right now.

When I was spending too much with the electric company, I did a research on the internet, found several different solar energy companies that I could talk to and Sunrun had the most knowledge about what I needed. Their reps were prompt, did everything that I expected and asked me a couple of things that I didn't expect. Also, I was happy with the installation team. They did a nice job, cleaned up everything when they were done, and they did a couple of repairs on my roof for free.
However, I called the reps one time to find out how I can get some more information about my usage and they didn't give me an answer. I wanted to be able to evaluate my energy usage and when I'm making money and not making money. I'm an engineer, so I wanna calculate all the stuff mathematically but I couldn't get the right data. I know there is data out there, but I don't have any access to it. Despite that, I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar. My bills from the SDG&E have gone way down, and with this hot summer that we had, I used the air-conditioning every day and it pretty much covered the cost. I haven't reached the payback period because it has only been a year, but it seems like the cost is going to come out the way I expected it to be. Somebody asked me about Sunrun and I recommended it.
Thank you for the review, Keith! We are thrilled to hear that you had a positive experience from sales, through install and beyond! This is exactly what we aim for. We searched on the web about solar providers and contacted multiple vendors. We also looked at the customer reviews online about some of the providers. There were some that had good names, but when we looked at their customer service, it was not so great. From the moment we put the down payment with Sunrun for the solar to the moment it was installed, the experience was seamless. We had trust in the process. We knew at any time what was expected to happen and what were the timeframes of what would happen.
We were also impressed with the Spanish representative, who was very helpful at any time in the process. When we had any question, we contacted him and he would reply or call us back to let us know what was going on. The setup of the installation until the moment the system was connected was very easy. We were also very pleased with all the documentation, which was why we left the guidance regarding the installation process with the different steps.
A couple of weeks after the installation, there was a power outage from PG&E so we contacted our account manager at Sunrun. He helped us get someone on site very quickly and guided us about what to do with PG&E in order to get the solar side fixed because the PG&E meter was down. We had gotten that fixed and everything was back online very quickly. We were very happy with the experience overall. The key has been the customer service. You may find something that's less expensive, but if you ever have an outage, it may be challenging to get it fixed.

I have had solar put up on 5 houses. On one house the roof leaked water after the solar panels were installed. I was told, after the people came back out and inspected the roof, it was not their fault (of course), but the installation crew broke many ceramic tiles while installing. We had them replace the ceramic tiles and they did so without argument. I had a roofer look at it and the roofer says he can fix it but it is not cheap. The experienced roofer believes it may have been caused by the installation crew. Keep in mind, the roof did not leak before. The bills on this same house constantly cost more than the bills my renter had before so I have to compensate her on her electric payments. She went from 341.00 per month to 185.00 for the solar and an average of about 226.00 from Arizona Public Service.
The house I live in is great. My A.P.S. bills average about 37.00 a month and my solar is 227.00 a month, which is quite a bit below what I used to pay. The 3rd house is 204.00 a month and the A.P.S. bills are running close to 200.00 a month which is way more than the average A.P.S. bill was before, for my renters. The 4th house is also a rented house where the monthly is 278.00 but the A.P.S. bill is running in the 200.00 range monthly. The 5th and final house is 187.00 per month and the A.P.S. bills run on average 26.00 monthly which is great.
The end result is 2 houses that are great and I have no regrets. 1 house with a leaky roof and HIGHER electric bills, and 2 with Higher bills and no leaky roof. I should also add, that on 2 of the houses the breaker trips in the kitchen when multiple appliances are on (coffee, toaster, microwave, stove). In the end I would not do this again because it simply does not work out for all involved and SunRun gets the Arizona tax credit because of my leasing the panels. If someone is thinking of doing this be very careful and if you can pay 15,000.00 outright you may qualify for a tax credit in your state.
Thank you for the feedback, Doyle. We certainly can understand your concerns with your multiple properties. As delighted as we are to hear that 2 of your system's are doing great, it is disheartening to hear of your other 3 systems. I was given her direct number. Called her 5 times in the 3 weeks, left msgs, no call back! Called Sunrun, was told there was an update, Danielle had the info. I was transferred to Danielle who told me that she was extremely busy, and that was why she had not returned my calls??? Her update was that they had contacted ABB and were waiting for a response? A guy came over and did an estimate of how many panels we could put on our roof, then did an analysis of our bill to see if we could save money with it. From there, we signed the paperwork. I had someone overseeing my project, but parts of the project were farmed outside of people, so it wasn't always clear who I was supposed to be talking to. But they were responsive. We have been live since July. We still have an SDGE bill and we're just to that point where we're not really running the AC anymore, so we’re probably gonna realize the bigger benefit soon. I had Sunrun install a solar system on a previous home I owned. So, when I was looking at here, I sampled around and bought them in again. They explained things very well and the main guy that I contacted helped me work through the enrollment. They did have a little hiccup and they offered me a proposal. Then I said I wanted a proposal with a battery on it. And they offered the backup battery that the other guys didn’t talk about. They worked with me really well in terms of getting things and fixing the hiccups that had occurred.
When we got started, Sunrun put the wrong proposal but they quickly fixed that up. They've also come out here when we had some issues with the installation, and they brought a supervisor out. It would have been nice to not have had those issues, but that happens. We went live last March. And I don’t pay a lot of money for electricity from the credits that I get. Also, the backup battery kicks in late in the day to help provide electricity when the sun is going down. But it doesn’t deplete itself completely. It keeps a reserve, so it can be used as an emergency.

I used Sunrun about nine years ago at my last house. For my new home, I interviewed three companies and Sunrun seemed to be the best choice. They offered the best deal. I was designing a system custom for my house and there was a lot of back and forth so enrollment was not easy. Nevertheless, Sunrun explained that and I was happy with it. They did what they said they were gonna do. Plus, they did one thing that they did not need to do -- the guy looked at my roof and told me that I needed a new roof before they could install their equipment. They put it on for free, too. That was pretty nice.
I still got a big electric bill but I had to weigh that against if I sell the house, having too big of a system for the next buyer of the house. So, even if it is a wash in terms of price, going solar is environmentally the right thing to do and electric companies’ rates just keep going up in the future. There were a couple of times where Sunrun’s reps didn’t get back to me for a while, but, other than that, my experience in dealing with their reps was good. Overall, they are a well-run company.

It has been pain in the butt with Sunrun Orange county group!!! Worst part is I don't think they don’t even communicate within OC Sunrun division and within their sub-contractor! HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW INSPECTION FAILED ON ROOF AND CALLING TO SCHEDULE FOR PANEL INSTALLATION!!! Finally they took care of the roof and now I have to bag for next step and what needs be done. I called text, and emailed for update and NO ONE IS GETTING BACK!!! I don't know what I have to do get their butts in gear? Or should I cancel the contract???
Thank you for the feedback, Tyler. It is very disheartening to hear of the lack of response you have received in trying to reach a resolution. Since the installation of my Sunrun system and going solar, my bill has been less. SCE&G changed the rates and it's going down a bit. However, my Sunrun bill went up around 1% or 2%, from 85 to 87 before they said it would. Their reps said there is a built-in 1% or 2% per year. Still, I feel great with my decision to go solar.

I had Sunrun install solar panels a little over 2 years ago. I have just realized that I am in need of a new roof. I have had 3 different roofing contractors look at my roof and all have said there is no way the panels should have been installed. My roof never should have passed Sunrun’s inspection but they said it did just so they could install the panels. To make matters worse they now want $5,000 to remove and then reinstall the panels so I can get a new roof installed. Before getting solar I looked into three companies Sunrun, Vivint, and Solar City. The Sunrun salesman sat at my dining room table and told me that they just like the other two companies would charge $500 if we ever needed a new roof to have the panels removed and reinstalled. He even specifically said how they take them down store them in a warehouse then come back a day or two after the roof is done and put them back on.
There was a specific question that my wife and I asked all three companies before making a decision. It is absolutely crazy that Sunrun would expect someone to pay $5,000 to have panels removed and reinstalled especially after they were put in a roof that should not have passed inspection. My case was supposedly elevated to a caseworker at Sunrun but it has now been three days and have heard nothing from them. If you are looking at getting solar DO NOT USE SUNRUN. Go with one of the other companies.
Thank you for the feedback, Michael. We are saddened to hear that the correct expectations were not set at the point of sale, this does not make for a good customer experience. It is deeply disheartening hearing of your roof troubles and lack of help you have received for them. We'd be more than happy to look into this for you. Sunrun put a solar panel on my rooftop about three months ago, so I can save energy. Their team was excellent. They came one day and worked from 7:30 in the morning and by 5:30, they were done. The process was an effective one and I was communicating with a lady by the name of Lisa who was a very good communicator. The system that Sunrun put up for me is too powerful and very good. I used to pay about 119 and now my bill is about 19. Everything just dropped. Also, I introduce a lot of people to them. I show them my bill and they get surprised because the bill speaks for itself. If I'm paying 190 and now it dropped to 37, you can't beat that.

I just had solar panels installed and the first time it rained my roof leaked. Sunrun sent 2 employees to my home to seal again all the mounts. The bad news is that these employees observed the damage I had inside my home and took pictures. My roof only leaked where the solar panels were installed. I have a roof that is only 3 years old. My roof was inspected by 2 solar companies that determined it was in good shape.
After Sunrun employees were at my home for several hours making repairs, they are now saying that the roof leak was not caused by the penetration of their panels into my roof. Therefore they are not responsible for the extensive damage I have inside my home. I dread doing business for the next 20 years with this company. If you have leaks do not allow Sunrun to repair anything on the roof before you have the roof inspected by a roofer to determine the cause of the leaks. They will try to blame leaves in drains or anything else they can find as the cause of the leaks. I had all my drains tested and they are all working fine. A few leaves in the drains did not cause the multiple leaks in my home. If I had not installed solar panels I would not have the water damage inside my home.
Thank you for the feedback, Kenneth. We definitely understand your concerns regarding the roof leak. We were able to review your account and I see that we reached out to address your concerns previously via email. At this time, the best thing for you to do is engage with your point of contact at Sunrun for further action. We want to try and reach a resolution together.

There was a time I had outrageous electric bills and so I decided to look into solar energy services. Enrolling with Sunrun was a long drawn out process. It took 10 months to do it. It started in August and it was April when it finally was finalized. Sunrun had a myriad of different reasons. They had problems with the people that were doing the roof. They also said that the homeowners' association here was restrictive on what they wanted. They had an internal problem with regards to one of the managerial positions and in-charge of directing people as well. Still, all the people that I dealt with there were all pretty good people and since I decided to go solar, I cut down on my electric bill by half.
Thank you for your review, Doug! We are sorry to hear of the delays you encountered on your journey to go solar. We know there are so many moving parts when getting up and running, and that leaves room for delays to happen. There was a time when our bills every month have been pretty high. I wanted to take advantage of using solar to offset some of that cost. Sunrun's representatives were really nice to work with but their process needs a lot of improvement. For example, we talked and took care of certain things earlier on with their site inspectors. But then when their installer came, they came up with a different kind of scenario, so we had to scramble to sort out certain things at the last minute. On the other hand, the installer was very thorough and I'm pretty happy with the way he set the system up.
I kind of felt that if a big chain like Costco is promoting Sunrun, then, it's probably a company of repute. However, I am finding out that once the equipment is ordered, Costco doesn't seem to be very much in the picture and it's very difficult to talk to anybody at Costco about Sunrun. For that matter, it's very difficult to talk to somebody in Sunrun management about Sunrun, either. I am also finding out that Sunrun did not disclose everything about their system to me and I'm getting surprises as we go along. An example would be how the battery is used by their system. Sunrun sold me the battery and then I'm finding out that the actual way the battery works is not the way it was described. When I went back to Sunrun, they really didn't have any answers for me either. I spent hours with their rep and the way it was explained to me was not correct and they don't have a solution for the problem.
Furthermore, the process of dealing with Sunrun hasn't been very smooth. I find that when I call in sometimes through their customer care center, their rep really doesn't know how the system works. They'll give me answers, which I know are wrong so I'll just hang up and call back again till I get a rep who knows what I'm talking about and give me the proper answers. They just wash their hands off, if anybody reports anything and they don't have a solution. They'll close the case and not try to follow up.
A lot of times, I'm finding it used to be much easier to get hold of the service reps. Now, as I call in, the wait is usually so long that I have to hang up and wait for them to call me back, which I don't think is a good idea. I should be able to talk to a rep after a five-minute wait. But overall, I'm very satisfied and I am pretty happy that I went with solar. The cost savings materialize as the system gets paid off over the years. We are already seeing some savings and going green is something that I'm already in favor of.
Thank you for the constructive feedback, Paramdeep. It is much appreciated. We definitely recognize that we have some areas of opportunity and we are working on bettering ourselves everyday! Somebody came to our house and encouraged us to sign in with Sunrun. He mentioned a lot of good words, such as benefiting a lot using Sunrun. There was also no money down, so we decided to go with them. However, our house is located by a golf course and we didn't know that the panels will be on where the golf course is directly going to, so when they installed them, it was a problem. We asked if they can install it on the other side of the roof, but they said they cannot because it was already approved and that they gotta go through reapproval. We were not informed that the placement of the panels cannot be on the roof. If it is installed on the other side of the roof, some can be avoided, but now, where the panels are located, that is where the golf course is going through and hitting directly. We had around four panels broken already. They have been fixed, but I know it's not gonna stop there.
Still, if there is a problem, we call the customer service. We are also able to use a lot of electric from natural resources. I have two handicapped kids that need a comfortable building, so we are not worried about using a lot of electric or that it would gonna cost us a lot. The rooms are AC’d and they have comfortable rooms. Wherever they stay inside the house, it’s comfortable, so health-wise, Sunrun has helped out a lot.
Thank you for the review, Elizabeth! Sorry to hear about the unfortunate placement of your panels. There are a number of things that go into panel placement, and we want to make sure we put them in a place for optimal production - even if that means putting them in view of a golf course. Thank you for sharing the benefits you've experienced since going solar. We are so delighted to hear that your family can now live comfortably with peace of mind! Updated on 07/18/2019: So my experience with Sunrun has been a bit of a roller coaster. My system was installed by last summer, 2018, by Sunrun contractors who did such a bad job that Sunrun had to send out their own people to make it right. With that my install started June 2018, system couldn't be activated until January 2019! So then I got to pay my Sunrun lease and full electric bill all winter, not a great start. Once things got going this spring I was very happy. Then in May there was an issue and they discovered that one group of solar panels wasn't connected, so there was significant lost production. After that was fixed one of the converters had to be replaced, costing me more production time. Now the converter has died again. It went down on Friday 7/12, I discovered it in 7/13 and called customer service who told me someone from technical support would call me back within 2 business days.
I finally got a callback today, 7/18 from some to schedule my appointment. First available is 7/31, when I complained I was told that she had called earlier, which was true but I couldn't answer being at work. Tried to explain that I'd been waiting all week for a call and that I was supposed to have been called by 7/17. She offered to put in a note that if something opens up earlier that I could be contacted. So now my appointment to diagnose the problem is 2 weeks away, I hope that the repair visit includes an actual repair and not just a diagnostic and then another wait for parts and the actual repair. So now after having my system on and producing for only a few months, it's down again during the most sunny part of the year. Oh and I keep paying my monthly lease to Sunrun uninterrupted. If this is year 1, the next 19 are going to be long! I'll update this if Sunrun makes an attempt to make this right.
Original Review: Started exploring solar options in the summer 2018. Sunrun rep came out and we liked what we heard so we decided to proceed. After installation I noticed that they hadn't followed the agreed plan for the placement of the solar panels. Tried repeatedly to get answers as to why this occurred and expressed concern because Sunrun says they configure the panels for the best possible electricity production. Tried for a month to get answers from my project coordinator, Alex, without luck.
I was finally told that I should contact my sales rep and Alex had no further info for me. I contacted my sales rep and he was apologetic bit told me the configuration that had been installed was going to produce even more electricity than the original plan. There's no documentation to back this up but how much time can I spend chasing this down. Now I had to wait for the inspection with the town to be scheduled, this took almost 6 weeks. The inspection happens and the system failed. There were several issues that needed to be addressed and I was told by Sunrun that they would coordinate getting this done.
So after waiting a couple weeks I was contacted by someone from the installation who said that an electrician would be sent out. That was supposed to be this morning at 9am, so I had to take time from work again. No one showed up and when I called I was told that something came up and someone should have called. So this project started in July, it's November and I have a system installed in a pattern and plan that I didn't agree to that couldn't pass inspection and isn't operational yet, 4 months later. We've now passed daylight savings and have entered into the time of year where we get the least sun, so thanks Sunrun! To say that the experience has been miserable would be a huge understatement. Reached out to every contact I have at Sunrun today before writing this post with no luck.
Thank you for the feedback, Kurt. It is very disheartening to hear of the poor communication you have encountered. Due to unforeseen circumstances, design plans change last minute all the time. We apologize that the reasoning was not thoroughly explained to you. We also apologize for that electrician being a no-show, that is unacceptable. We'd be more than happy to look into your situation a little further to see if we can remedy the situation for you. A specialist will be reaching out to you shortly.

My husband and I had been looking at getting solar energy services for a while and when I saw the Sunrun kiosk at Costco, it just tipped me over. I've seen the representative there several times since and he was a very awesome person. He's knowledgeable, not pushy, and very professional. There were absolutely no problems enrolling with them. The interactions I had with the customer service at Sunrun were wonderful. The very first day that it was installed, the technician was 10 minutes away and we had a power outage. I didn't know what to do, so I called him and he came back and said that our system tested out fine and that we just had a power outage.
A technician came out last week because we weren't producing enough for the grid. He took a lot of pictures and he said that it was the angle of the sun at this time of year. We have a lot of trees around us, so the sun catches shadows. The tech was wonderful. He said the panels were dusty because of the hot, dry summer, so he washed off the panels and he said that it helped. He also said that there was nothing that mattered with our system. From the very beginning, I felt that the company is very well run. The men that came were professional. They gave me cards and their equipment was clean. They told me exactly what was happening and what to expect. Sunrun is the best.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, Carol! We are delighted to hear that you were able to take advantage of our partnership with Costco, it is one we are very proud of! We bought a house with panels already in place. Turned out the original install was faulty causing our roof to fail well before it's time. After almost a year, we came to an agreement for removing and reinstalling. The contractor who removed the panels showed us how bad shape the panels were in, all cracked every last panel. His opinion which was written in his report back to Sunrun was those panels should not be reinstalled. The company is insisting on putting them back on the roof damaged as they are. I have been trying to contact customer service for the past 3 days waiting over an hour each time with no one actually answering the call. This is by far the worst service I have ever come across.

I have solar service at another property and I was looking at adding it to another property. It has a Spanish tile roof and Sunrun was one of the vendors who would be able to service that type of a roof. Enrolling with them was okay but I had little challenges with communication. Some of the people were transitioning, so they left the company. As soon as everything was set up from the sales guy, they handed it over to Sunrun to install and implement some other communication stuff which was less consistent.
I still have an unresolved issue and the challenge with them was the lack of follow-ups. When my service was turned on, it wasn't fully operational for about six weeks. I've got two inverters and only one of them was working but I was charged for the full flat amount of solar usage even though it was only producing half the amount. This is an apology. I need to correct what I said. I said the original proposal was 8 panels. I read the "Contract" paperwork yesterday. I feel real bad for making Sunrun look bad. It was not a "Bait and Switch" as I claimed. 18 panels is correct number that what we signed for. Both portions of my roof to be used as written.
Original Review: Oct. 31, 2018
My name is Jeff **. I live at **. Use Google Earth to view. My experience with GEN110, Hero and Sunrun is not good. I am 69 and retired. The prospects of a lower electric bill looked very good. The original Hero/GEN110 program proposal in Feb. 2014 was a complete 8 panel system installed over a shed garage roof. Using Google Earth, their expert engineers determined that a system could be installed with minimal intrusion to our property and neighbors view. They were correct in the location and view.
“The Bait.” I was on vacation/business and out of the country. My wife was contacted about a small mistake in the calculation made on the proposal/contract. We would not meet the savings that was promised using the original quoted 8 panels over the garage roof. “The Switch” We would need 10 additional panels to meet the original projected savings. Could the prospect of free real estate on my residence to generate electricity be passed up by HERO, GEN110 or Sunrun.
My wife has no knowledge of construction nor the ability to asses lifespan of a product. She asked to have the roof inspected before installing the extra 10 panels. The roof was deemed by their professional inspector to be in "GOOD" condition. The asphalt shingles were installed in 1991. My wife went by the inspector's opinion. Now it is 3 years later and I need a new roof installed on a very old roof. I can't have a new roof until I have the solar removed. I am being charge $3,200.00 by Sunrun to remove and replace all 18 panels.
I cannot believe that government was 225% wrong in estimating savings I would see in the future. The shed roof was installed in 1998 (20 years old) and was used to establish the quote with 8 solar panels. The shed roof could be easily be resurfaced in 1 day and considered as a simple repair to the city of Costa Mesa. HERO, GEN110 and Sunrun said they would give us 1 week notice before they would start the work. That leaves plenty of time for me to have the roof fixed.
The main roof was installed in 1991 (28 years old) on which the additional 10 panels are located. I have an asphalt shingle roof. I have been lucky to have had only small leaks over the years. I was going to have the roof replaced before installing the solar. HERO, GEN110 and Sunrun pushed to install and falsely reported the poor condition of my roof to my wife. They said it would be OK to install the solar system. Today, replacing the roof is not the question I have. It is a necessity I am willing to pay for. My question is who is ultimately responsible for installing new equipment onto an obviously old roof.
GEN110 falsely presented their product as to the size and location needed. They said we could pay off the lease at any time. Now they say we can only pay on the principal to lower monthly payments only. They did not mention about the lien on the property lasting for another 17 years. I can't sell my home with a lien on my property. I can't freely retire in the area of the USA I wanted live in. Sunrun installed and maintains the equipment. They don't feel responsible for installing their equipment on a bad roof (20 and 28 years old) and be “REQUIRED” to pay to remove.
Sunrun does not feel responsible for the partnered with in business who installed the equipment. They are only responsible billing. They have no clue what customer service is! Timeline. 02/14/2014 signed contract. 13 months year later 03/05/2015 date of install. 2 months later 05/07/2015 called 2 months after install to ask why the system was in the "Off" position. 05/07/2015 I was told “Turned it "ON". 3 years later Need new skylights and roof. 09/25/2018 received contract to sign for $3,200.00 for a Removal & Re-Installation. 10/31/18 after many calls and emails they have lowered the price to $1,500.00.
They obviously are admitting to guilt in this “Bait and Switch” scheme. It will rain soon. I have a hole 2 x 4 foot in my kitchen where I started removing the skylights. Sunrun told me not to touch their system. They lien your home for 20 years. They install on a bad roof. They charge you extra when you need to repair your roof. They will not let you buy the system. They bully with denials of who is at fault.
Thank you for the feedback, Jeff. It is disheartening to hear of the experiences you have encountered in order to get your roof work done. We aim to be as cooperative as possible in these situations, and never want to hinder your plans with your home. We would love to discuss your concerns in depth with you. As a customer who has been dealing with them since day one I can tell you my experience. My house has trees all around it especially in the yard. Sunrun came out and installed panels on my roof. 6 months after installation they weren't working properly. The trees shade my panels, they never did a proper shade report so the panels only work half the year. I was strung along for 2 years as they told me they were working on it. My panels save me a whopping 60 cents a day. You are reading correctly 60 cents a day.
Mike the manager of customer service said solar panels are made to generate a modest savings. 60 cents? As the trees grow the savings will go down. FACTS you're locked into an agreement for 20 years. FACT regardless of your electric bill the payment for the panels will be there for the next 20 years. FACT if you plan on selling your house the person buying it has to agree to take over the solar panel lease. Fact their production guarantee works for then not you. The great presentation is smoke and mirrors. I strongly suggest looking into another solar company. I would give zero stars but it doesn't let me.
Thank you for your feedback, Mario. We understand it can be frustrating when we encounter performance modeling errors such as this one. Tree shading can be a large factor that occasionally gets overlooked. We do our best to correct these mistakes after the fact, by lowering the rate you pay Sunrun and matching the bill to be more in line with the actual production you receive. I know that .60 cents a day does not seem like much, but that adds up to over $200 in savings a year, and we know how much every penny counts! All the facts you have listed, are all things that are listed in the agreement that you signed. However your performance guarantee is in place to benefit you the customer, not Sunrun. We do not gain anything by refunding you for under-performance. We'd be more than happy to look into your concerns a little further for you, a specialist will be reaching out to you shortly!

I enrolled with Sunrun to save on electricity and for the environment, and I'm satisfied so far. We had an issue a couple of months ago when the system was down and one of their technicians came out. They had to order a part and it took a couple of weeks to get it, but the system is up and running again.

We wanted to get a solar so that our bills would be lower and because we went to a workshop for Habitat for Humanity. We had also spoken to different people, like at Costco, before and I thought it was a great alternative. The people at Costco are connected with Sunrun and that helped us get in. Enrolling was easy and we definitely recommend Sunrun. In fact, we got our whole community to get solar so it was good.
The customer service with Sunrun is really great too, even better than going with the grid. We contacted them because the process seemed to be taking a bit longer than it should and we wanted to check up on things. I also called Sunrun when I was trying to start up my unit and the lady that I got was so helpful and knowledgeable. Once she figured out what system I had and what I needed to do, she took me through the instructions very smoothly and very well. When I was turning the panels on, I felt very confident that I knew what I was doing. The panels have been up and running for about three months now and we've saved on our bills. They would usually be about $55 to $60, which is pretty good but now, the highest would be like $15. The system is really good and we love it. We're very happy.

We bought a house that had a Sunrun system from the previous owners, but we still had to enroll for it, which was a fairly easy process. There’s been a lot of turnover on sales reps in the last five years, which is foolish and making our interactions with them, vary. We started off with someone who seems quite responsive. However, it’s very frustrating to me that the company doesn’t do some proactive responsibility for telling me when the system is underperforming.
Once we did conclude that the system was shut down by something or that the transponder wasn’t working, they’d send somebody out to fix the transponder, but very often, the system underperforms the projections. It is just ridiculous that the under-generation is paid for at the base payment rate while there’s a marginal payment rate at which people are really paying for, whatever the system charge for all this. But, it was in the contract, I hadn’t been aware of it. It’s a fraud to not advertise it openly, easily, and just hide behind the weasel words that are in contracts.
They should be proactive by saying, “You’re underperforming. We or you need to do something. We just made bad projection with the company. Just made bad projections and that’s life. You get degraded with time and it’s degrading faster than we have projected or you need to clean the system." or "We/you need to install a new modern-day inverter.” That would inherently be more efficient. On the lease, we can’t install a new inverter, nor can we latch on a supplemental system. Also, there is not enough proactive feedback or guide on how to optimally maintain the system in order to have it run according to the projections that were given.
Thank you for the feedback, Larry. We aim to proactively monitor all our Sunrun owned systems, and reach out if further service is needed. We are sorry to hear that you feel this is not the case for your system. We would love the chance to review your system and follow up with you regarding your concerns. We had been researching solar for a little while and we had GenRenew out prior to Sunrun and got to talk to them and got their pricing. But we had decided that we wanted to purchase Sunrun because it would behoove us to purchase our system. GenRenew is like a third party, so they don't really allow you to purchase the system. They do a lease. Also Sunrun was in the top seven for the country and has moved up since then to top five.
We've had good experiences with Sunrun with the exception of one portion of it, and that would be the billing. The person that would charge the company that we got the loan with quit and didn't tell anybody that they didn't charge over our account. So we haven't been billed for our solar yet. I've been inquiring since July and even worked with GreenSky, which is the loan company, and Sunrun has not answered them, either. Recently, I got an email saying that they haven't been able to charge our system over to GreenSky because the loan has expired. They copied our sales agent on it and she said she would be handling it.
The sales agent and also the installation coordinator are great and I love them. Our installation team that came out was also great. Everybody was really nice and knowledgeable. The customer service team goes above and beyond to try and get answers. Our project coordinator was also knowledgeable to an extent, but there were some things that he was not knowledgeable on that caused some frustration and that deals with the monitoring system that we were supposed to have access to. But he got it taken care of.
We had a leak on our roof and there was the possibility that Sunrun would ingest part of that cost to replace the roof. They kind of sped the process up a little bit to see if our roof would qualify for them to ingest part of it. Unfortunately, due to the cause of the leak, we weren't eligible for Sunrun to assist with any of those costs. But everything else was great. We got our roof replaced and then the following week, Sunrun was out in starting the installation. Everything was a smooth process. We have recommended Sunrun to our friends and family.
Thanks for sharing your story, Brittney! We are so happy you chose to go with Sunrun! It sounds like your experience has been everything we could have hoped for aside from the billing portion you mentioned. I have faith that Sunrun will remedy the situation and get your loan payments squared away. Congrats on going solar! And thank you for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

Between the presentation of the Sunrun people who came to my door and me discussing how my neighbor felt about the solar panels he had installed, I decided to proceed with Sunrun. Enrolling was fairly easy. After all, Sunrun was handling most of the paperwork and all the permits. They would also call me and let me know what the next step would be, who would be coming to the house and why they would have to get in. We started in September and I had solar in March, and it was very smooth. The process took about five months and some of the hitches were us being home.
There was a little bit of a mix-up about the billing though. I wanted to get a mailed bill as opposed to an email. But it was nothing major and the mix-up could have been on my part. I got through the summer with minus $2 showing up on my electric bill. Then there could be another buy-back at the end of March and maybe, I would see the same credit. I saw that there would be an annual analyzation. Sunrun would look at whether there is excess solar power that they would sell back to the electric companies because they're obligated to buy back some solar. I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar and I would recommend Sunrun to a friend without a doubt. In fact, I've contacted a couple of people and not just because of the incentive. I'm not even quite sure if there is any incentive or bonus for recommending others.

I had been at the Home Depot several months earlier, and SolarCity had a stand at Home Depot, and they were touting on solar energy. So, they had a representative come to my home, and he showed me everything. In fact, he brought his own gas and electric bill, and he was showing me the savings that he had gotten. He brought me about four or five of them, before and after he had gotten solar energy. The savings that I was looking at turned me on.
Enrolling with Sunrun was very easy. At the time, I was gonna go with SolarCity, but they were too pushy. They were trying to force me into signing the contract before they had even done any work or anything. With Sunrun, they were very upfront and honest. I felt a lot more comfortable with them than I did with SolarCity. I'm also very satisfied with the installation. I've no qualms whatsoever. Since having Sunrun, I've had some savings. Also, there was a short in the light in my bathroom. I called them, and they came right out and fixed it. I'd also want to thank them for the check. I was very happy with that. I had one referral to them and they gave me a check.
I've told others about some of the savings that I was getting from Sunrun. Plus, I showed them the letter where I was getting a $5,000 tax credit by the year 2023. They said it was just so backed up that that’s what happened in Baltimore County because of the people that were taken out of the solar energy. Still, I got a letter from the county government, and they said that I would be getting $5,000 tax credit in 2021 or 2022.

Updated on 11/07/2018: On October 19, 2018 I filed my complaint regarding SunRun Billing and Production. I was contacted via email the next business day. Here is their reply: "At this time, hourly production is not something that we have available. Our internal monitoring doesn't even have access to hour by hour production, we look at production day by day at a cumulative level, similar to what you have access to in your mySunrun account.
"But I hear your savings concerns, and I see that your father has just recently passed his anniversary with us. This means that we now would have enough information to do a full cost analysis to help determine whether or not this solar system has been any real benefit to him. It would require you to provide the last 12 months of utility bills. If this is something you are interested in, please forward me those bills over and I can get started on this analysis. Depending on the results of the analysis, there may be a few things on our end we can do to increase those savings for him."
November 7, 2018 Update: My disappointment is profound. I just cannot believe they have NO WAY of producing proof of what their services are providing in exchange for our $6,000.00. As I have to get copies of my electric bills to send to them to be given a "full cost analysis", as can only assume they are going to recommend that we have MORE panels installed at our cost. So, in the end, yes we need to just believe their website's daily production reports. We are still paying our electric bills at the same or more charges than before SunRun started this mess as well as a $200.00 A month loan for the $6,000.00 we paid upfront! What a debacle.
Original Review: Aloha, my 86 yr old father, after hours of discussions and presentations, chose to pay $6,000.00 up front to "buy" this solar system although we would not receive any storage batteries. The option of paying $0 upfront but approx. $200.00 a month for 20-25 years was very unattractive even though we would have batteries. After taking out a loan to pay the $6,000.00, which we have yet to pay off due to not seeing any savings on our electric bill, he went through some folderol of signing the contract online electronically and the system was installed within 3 months. We sat back, having to pay $200.00 a month on the loan, and waited for the savings to start showing. It NEVER did go down, just UP!
When I contacted SunRun thinking the system was just not working even though the website dashboard stated we were producing, I was informed we had NOT purchased the system but paid $6,000.00 in rental fees in advance for 20 or 25 years and SunRun owned the system! Also they sent out a nice man who said the system was producing just fine. When I requested a printout of the hourly production I was informed they "can't" do that.
So in the end, after multiple emails, I have to trust them that the system is producing, that it's our AC that is causing the electric bill to NEVER go down though we are using it much the same as always, and that they have verified the system is producing as expected when compared to our neighbors. My father says he feels like he was sold Shanks Mare and his $6,000.00 is gone for good. I am incensed, I feel like Dad is being taken advantage of, and I am pondering contacting a lawyer. So, I have only one major thing to say. DO NOT USE SUNRUN! Incensed and disappointed

I had been kicking around the idea of getting solar energy services for a while, then I decided that it was as good a time as any to do that and I had the opportunity to invest in it. I was hoping to get a reduction in utilities cost and I figured that going solar was a good investment. Also, having a solar energy system was gonna help if I ever wanted a solar house and it would be a definite selling point. In doing an internet search for solar energy companies, Sunrun's name popped up. I did some research and I found out that, with everybody considered and based on the industry reviews, they’re one of the best solar companies in this area.
All in all, the enrollment process was very easy from start to finish. The woman that helped us did a great job and presented the service very well. Since the installation, I've been very satisfied with my decision to go solar with Sunrun. The solar energy system is working great. I was thinking about having somebody come out to take a look at it and make sure that everything is working correctly. Otherwise, everything seems fine and there was also a follow-up from customer service afterwards.
When the system got put on my garage, it shaded my garage which is south-facing and it keeps both the garage and the house cooler. Even on the very first day that I had the system put on in the middle of summer, I saw that the garage temperature was vastly different from when the system wasn’t on the garage. So, that was a definite bonus that I hadn’t even thought of.
Everybody that I dealt with there was super nice and very professional and courteous. Any time I had any questions, they answered them. But most of the time, I didn’t have any because they did a good job of presentation and answered most of my questions even before I asked them. I’d tell people to definitely go with Sunrun. In fact, I’ve talked to some of my co-workers about them. I told them to definitely go solar with Sunrun if they have an opportunity and if they wanted to, I would hook them up with the lady there that I talked to initially.

I saw Sunrun on Facebook and at first, I though that it was the county-wide program. It was a little bit deceptive. Then Patrick dazzled me with his cell phone. He gave me all these facts and figures that I wasn't ready for. But I had to it anyway because I really don't like Edison. Edison was murdering off people and does it for thousands of years. I finally did it but there was a consequence. Edison sent me nasty letters, almost monthly, telling me that my electric usage was 125% more than all of my neighbors. I was the only one that was here year-round though. My electric was gonna be higher because I used it.
The installation with Sunrun was great though. Two guys came out here at about 7:30 in the morning and they quit at about 2:00 in the afternoon. They were up above my head on the roof for about six hours and they only broke for lunch. And they weren't noisy. As a matter of fact, I got worried about them because I didn't hear any noise. I went out to see if they had fallen off the roof and broken their neck. But nothing like that happened. They were okay. It was a really good experience.
Right now though, I wish I would have gotten with the Renova down in the Coachella Valley. I've been waiting since last month to get my solar fixed and it took me a long time to get somebody to come out here and take care of it. Some renters were involved with some kind of a project with Edison and that delayed the repair process. Plus the Sunrun people are coming all the way from Temecula. I didn't take that to account when I signed up with them. It's at least an hour's drive and it's not a really easy drive.
A guy came out here last week and went through the process of trying to restart it but he couldn't. He said to me that I had a bad inverter. They told me that the inverter basically blew up. Right now, it's completely shut down. They didn't explain it to me but I haven't had solar since. The guy said some folks have gone through some solar panels and they had no problems for three or four years. But then, some people were like me. I signed up in April and in September, I had no solar. I have been told that as soon as they get the inverter, if they have one in stock, they could come right up and put it in. But since that was last week and the guy hasn't come out here, I presume that they haven't got any stock and I’m gonna have to wait for it to be built. Then, they're gonna have to come out here to send somebody out from Temecula again.
I'm at the mercy of Edison. I don't think it's as good as using solar power but they do have a guarantee to have money taken off at the end of a year-period to compensate me. That's good and I appreciate that. So far, Sunrun has also been keeping up with me. They're good about returning calls. Sometimes, they don't return it until the next day but they do return it. A lady even called me twice from San Francisco and told me that they have no progress but that they were working on it. And I have to appreciate that.

To cut down on my energy bill, I thought getting solar energy was a good idea for the house. I looked at a couple of places and thought Sunrun was the best for me. Enrolling was very easy and everything went very smoothly. The guy who came out was very nice, helpful and answered all the questions I had. The installation was quick and easy too. The installers started on the day they came out and they were done in four hours. I noticed a lot of savings from my energy bill, which is almost cut down by half. Everything worked out great and I was happy with what I decided to go with. I would recommend Sunrun to anyone.

The people at Sunrun were friendly and weren’t really pushy like others were. I've called customer service for some basic questions and it's been okay. For the enrollment, they explained everything and it was straightforward. It was really just a lot of waiting. Then they told me ahead of time when they were coming to install. It was loud though. They had to replace the roof because it wasn’t up to code but they were really quick about it. The only thing that bothered me was after the workers came to set everything, they didn’t flick a switch so there was no power in a couple of the rooms. I’m always at work and that lasted about a good week. But that was taken care of and everything is good now. In fact, it's awesome. I’m not paying 300 bucks a month for electricity anymore.

I got Sunrun for the $600 gift-card. Everything's been going smoothly. A guy came to my house, laid everything out, told me all about solar and what the project would entail. Afterwards, the crew came out to lay out the panels and did installation, and then we set it up and turned it on. That was pretty easy. The installation took two days and the guys were professional and courteous. They knew what they're doing. I'm an electrician, so I can tell what they're doing. They were very good workers and everything came out with good quality. Going with Sunrun has its benefits to the environment and although the electric bills has been the same no matter what, there hasn’t been any interruption in services.

When they give a number for service and you put it on the website, they got a thing on there that you could contact them for any kind of service or questions, but it might be five days later before you get any kind of a phone call.

The agreement was made but it was several months before it was accomplished and it ended up not being accomplished too after the beginning of the next year. So I got the deductible a year later and the time span was several months from signing the agreement to actually anybody doing anything. Nonetheless, everybody was wonderful and I’m enjoying the system.

The enrollment process with Sunrun was fairly simple but it took 9 months to finally get the system completely turned on. The city accounting had changed some regulations so they had Sunrun go back and get all that stuff changed before it would get turned on. In spite of that, I’m very satisfied when I look at my bill now versus what it was. I definitely see energy savings on the power bill.

I knew that the person that I was dealing with at Sunrun was new at that position and I could deal with that. He was very thorough about it and that was what I liked. And any concerns that he wouldn’t know, he would find out for me, so that was good. But there was one part of the installation that I wasn’t very happy with. Initially, I was able to leave the installers here to do their job but when I returned, I found that they routed the ground wire without consulting me about it. And it wasn’t routed or installed tacky, but it was a visual thing for the front of the house, so I told them that the thing has got to go.
They took care of it, but when I asked them I wanted that ground wire re-routed underneath the house all the way from the front to the back, the person that they had who climbed underneath the house couldn't understand what I wanted him to do. Maybe he was the smallest one they had so he went underneath there, but I couldn’t communicate to him on where to drill this hole from the outside. I showed the other lead installer where I wanted that hole to be popped into the wall and since I didn’t want any mistakes, I had to climb under the house and communicate outside with the person they sent underneath on the measurements where to pop the hole and that when the wire would get directly routed to back of the house, it needed to be tie wrapped to the pipe.
But the guy that was underneath the house helping me went outside and left. I had to communicate with the lead and he ended up climbing underneath the house and finishing the back part of the house where I did the front. With a house like mine, what they did was not the easiest thing to do. It was not impossible, but you got to climb under the house and the back part of the hose is a little more shallow than the front because there's an addition. I can barely fit there myself but they got it done. In the end, it was no big deal and I didn’t wanna risk anybody getting fired over it, but that part was unacceptable.
The lead understood though and said he'd address that. Other than that, I'm happy with their work, with the quote they gave me, and with my decision to go solar. When people ask me about it, I tell them that the system is working. I also tell them that my main reason for going with Sunrun was because they were backed by Costco and not like any shop that would open up, do some work for you, then they'd be out of business in two years,.
Thank you for sharing your story, Richard! We are so pleased to hear that you are satisfied with your decision to go solar. We have, almost a month now, a leak in our family room and after two weeks of calls and emails, which were NEVER responded to, a tech came out said it was an issue from our installation where they never plugged a test hole in our roof. He said he fixed it and someone would be contacting us about the repairs in our ceiling. We have not heard from anyone about fixing our ceiling and have made several calls and the leak was not repaired. I called Sunrun and they had somebody out here the same or next day.
We started at the beginning of the summer, so we haven’t been able to build up any off peak power to actually reduce our bill but we’re saving about $100 compared to my neighbor’s bills based on the solar payment and the additional energy usage payment. We were assuming that we would be saving a lot more, but after speaking to the power consultant guy that we went through, he said it was gonna take months for us to build up credits, which we didn’t completely understand. It was the solar consultant’s fault and the miscommunication between him and us irked us a little bit that but he explained it to us in a more in-depth manner and by next summer, we should start seeing the credits that we built up to reduce our bill. I’m completely 100% happy with Sunrun and I would recommend them.

At the time, my husband and I asked specifically if we were to sell our home could the panels be removed. We were told yes. Now, the fine print is being put in my face, that was only after the first year of having the system. We have dealt with 2 service transfer technicians. Getting a hold of information is very, very, very frustrating. We have had buyers turned off because they can't get the info they need and an escrow canceled because of SunRun. As I write this review I've been on hold for 20 minutes waiting to speak to a representative. Getting involved with SunRun was the worst thing we have ever done. I am leasing Sunrun Solar. Love the solar system as it cut approx $800 of my electric bill the first year. However, the contract is less than truthful. It states that I will receive the solar credits (rebates) from the state but not the federal credits. I was fine with that. Now I am told that it applies to only 3 states (HA, NY and 1 other state). I live in AZ and do not live in one of the 3 states that this contract applies to, therefore, I do not get the $1000 AZ rebate because they will not supply me the certificate. Why use a contract in AZ that is not valid in AZ?

My brother and I looked at solar energy years ago but it was too expensive and it didn’t seem like the people really knew what they were talking about. When I was in New Jersey, there was a fella who had solar on his house. He told me what he had going on. I contacted the company and they told me that they don’t do anything in Texas and to call somebody in California. I called a couple of different states and then one of the Sunrun people called me back first. I like their program so I did it.
Getting started was easy. They had to put the solar panels up the next two weeks later and I assumed that they got it off the boat and contacted my energy source. It should have been all over the last of April but it took them five months to do the installation and to get the solar panels up and running. Still, I would recommend Sunrun. Sunrun was the first one that I saw that could do a ground mount. The sales guy came up. We sat for a couple of hours and walked through all the things. The interaction was great. They were responsive and took care of everything. However, they didn't explain that for my electrical service provider, I would need to pay the taxes on whatever service was provided to the house. So when I received my final monthly bill, it was about $20 short because I didn’t understand that particular aspect of it.
Their guys were quick and phenomenal when the installation took place. They knew what they were doing and how they were gonna do it. They had a really good plan. They had to run the underground utility over to the opposite side of my house to be able to tie into my existing panel, to tie in for the basement and get all the work done. Also, they dug hand holes right. They had a video guided ability to go below the ground and run the electricity from hand hole to hand hole. They shot eight of those all the way across the property and tied it in all in one day. They then backfilled all the holes and receded them. It was absolutely perfect.
Solar panels can either compromise or enhance your resell value and Sunrun's guy enhanced my resell value by saying we have a fixed cost for electricity. I give him got a lot of credit. He knew how to orient the panels and where to put them on the property. I have almost five acres and he found a really nice spot out of major public view to put them in. I can't say enough good things about the way Sunrun handled it. They reduced my overall cost for electricity by about 25%, so far. The experience was perfect from construction all the way through to being able to use the system. I would recommend them all day.

They also kept me informed of everything that was going on. TEP put their meter in and we put ours in, so everything's ready to go. All it's gotta be is just turned on and we can have somebody come out and do it. Sunrun talked me through the process and started the same day.
The day of the installation, I was at work but when I came back home, it was all done. My neighbor across the street watched the installers and he was surprised they got it done. Now, everything works really well and I am completely satisfied. I try telling others that Sunrun is the greatest thing in the world. I also tell them that they will not put down money and that they will get 20 years from it. I was looking into getting solar because it was supposed to save me money and I heard about Sunrun through a friend. The enrollment was easy but I started with it in February and it didn’t get installed until the late part of June, so it took some time. But they did great during the installation. However, I just called to find out if my stuff was working properly because I got a $200 electric bill. I’m a little confused because the sales guy told me that I would be paying APS $25 a month for being on the grid, and paying Sunrun a 120 for the lease. I guess that’s not true because I’ve been told a couple of times that it’s not true.
There’s no reason why he should’ve told me that because there’s no set price for being on the grid. It’s all on what you use and what you’re accumulating at and I was not aware that I would still be on the same program as I was when I was with APS alone, the 3:00 to 8:00 at night. I thought I would be able to use it whenever. Also since I’ve gotten the solar, my power goes out more often than it ever has.
I’m just a little disappointed because I was expecting different, and I’m not getting that. But I was told that I came into it late, and it should get better by this next year. It’s just sad that I'm having to pay all of this extra. Like my electric bill that I got this month was a $100 so now I’m paying over 220 a month and it's just crazy. At this point in time, I'm very dissatisfied. But they did tell me I need to give it time so maybe another year from now, I’ll be more satisfied than I ever was.

So far, we're still paying the solar off but we know, eventually in time, that it's towards our benefit. But we've noticed a big difference on our electric bill. Right now, our bill is way much cheaper than it has been since we got the house. Putting the solar in our house helps us with our energy costs and at the same token, it brings value to the house. If someone were to ask me about Sunrun, I would give them Kevin's phone number because I figured he's the guy that they need to talk to. Sunrun reps were very professional and everything went really good. No headaches, no stress. All our questions were answered and everything was done in a timely manner. I was really, really impressed.
Thank you so much for the review, John! We were ecstatic to hear what a great experience you had. We aim to make sure our customers are informed every step of the way and it sounds like our team made sure of that! Congrats on going solar, and thank you for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

We live in the hottest place in the US and we thought it’d be smart to get solar. I got Sunrun with one home and enrolling was difficult at first but it was not because of just Sunrun. We also had that PUC. There was a lot of law stuff going on with NV Energy which made it a bit hard to get it done. From beginning to end to get my solar panels up and running took about a year but the installation was great. We had a little hiccup when the electrical panel went out but Sunrun quickly fixed it and since then, it has been good.
Then I attempted to get Sunrun with the second home and it was not a good one. We were doing it through Costco and the options were to pay the whole lump sum with a credit card because we wanted to pay the whole thing or get Costco cash cards. But that would require over 30 Costco cash cards, which Costco said they had no idea of and they didn’t wanna run my debit card as a credit card like it was run for the first house. So, we ended up not getting solar for that home.
Thank you for your feedback, Maria. We are pleased to hear that everything went well with your first home getting solar. But it is disheartening to hear of your experience the second time around. I was open to the idea of using solar energy and then a Sunrun sales rep stopped by the house. I had a very pleasant experience with him to start with but I found out that a lot of what he told me was not true. He told us that if we gave a referral and the people signed up with Sunrun, we would get a $500 bonus for each referral. We had trouble with those references being reported to Sunrun and I had to talk to them about that. I had several references that I had given that were not showing on my account. The first one that was processed went through fine, but I still have one pending that I haven’t received my referral bonus from.
And then, we found out that the bonus was not $500 but only 350. The rep doubled up with another lie that the other 150 would come from Duke Power, our local carrier, which they didn’t know anything about. There was a lot of misrepresentation, and there has been three or more customers that I know of whom he told the same thing. He even said it on a conference call to one which would have to be the chief of police. Another thing that happened to some of the customers, though it didn’t happen to me, was that the rep agreed to pay them so much to have some trees removed. So the people paid to have the trees removed, but then they never have been reimbursed.
This rep is no longer in South Carolina, he’s in Chicago now. He wouldn’t return calls and answer emails. So it has been a very bad experience there. Sunrun gave us the $350 through the credit card but the misinformation was never dealt with. At one point, they said that the rep didn’t work for them and he was with a sub-company. Outside of that, everything seems to be working fine. Although with what I’m paying between Sunrun and Duke Power, my bill is about the same as it was before I even messed with it. Still, I would recommend Sunrun, but I would caution people to make sure that they got their stuff in writing and confirmed. Don’t rely just on what the sales rep is telling you. Talk with your project manager or whoever it is that is contacting you from Sunrun.
Thank you for the review, Johnny! We are happy to hear that your experience with Sunrun has been fairly pleasant, although we are disheartened to hear of the misinformation given to you. We would love to look into those referral bonuses for you to make sure your experience is that much better. A specialist will be reaching out to you shortly to get a little bit more information.

To add insult to injury, they added a $7.50 ACH Non-Compliance fee to my bill because I don't have it auto-debited from my bank account!! What in the world?!!
I have attempted to call 3 times about this and was on hold for more than 30 minutes each time before I had to hang up get back to life. I sent a message and received not a single acknowledgment. THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE HAS LEFT A REALLY BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH. You guys need to train your salespeople on transparency so that we know exactly what we're signing up for. I wanted to see how much energy we generate daily. It was roughly about 15 kilowatt hours per day so it was equally good at the beginning because we started with Sunrun in July, so the sun was pretty strong at that time. My friend recommended Sunrun to me. It was good because they offered everything free. My friend helped me set up everything and Sunrun's staff came to install it. Everything was smooth and fast. The reps were nice and told us how to use it. Sunrun has been good and we saved energy.

After several attempts, I was finally able to "talk" with a person online. My system went down mid-September. A tech was sent out to look at the system... and announced that the inverter is bad and will have to replace. That is the last time I had an update... Third time was the charm by finally talking with somebody via chat... where I learned that the repair part was ordered--today (yesterday) and would be out in three weeks. My system has been down for nearly three weeks already. I'm required to continue to make payments whilst the system is down. It's all about the power delivered, not the status of your system.
Discussion revealed that my appendix A was revised, but never put in my file online--the estimated KW hours production was reduced from the original document. If production does not exceed that yearly estimate--then Sunrun will reimburse. In my case is roughly $.20/kW hour. Several instances of very poor communications. My impression is that SUNRUN is not doing well.

Fortunately, that time, I have a very nice credit score which worked out as far as the financing side is concerned. We were approved. Before, we were paying almost $200 a month for electricity. Right now, I’m paying a monthly of $130 for the lease which is like paying $130 a month for our electric bill because we have appliances, pool machine and once in a while, the aircon. So, it’s just break even. We are not that afraid to use our electricity anymore because we know we’re on the safe side. Penny is a wonderful guy. He worked hard, did the mess and helped me. I would recommend Sunrun and I would refer to him anybody who would be interested.

We’ve looked into solar energy services before, but we had a big tree out front and without the tree, the sun could do its thing. A Sunrun rep came out and the enrollment process was not difficult at all, but it took about six months to a year to get our solar panels up and running. The installation experience was good, but our interactions with the customer service were horrible. I am really not happy with this company. Sunrun cut our bill down to half, but our friends don’t have any bill at all, so we were wondering why ours just went down to half instead of going down to nothing like everybody else’s that we know.
In addition, they only signed up my husband and everything went through him, so I had no idea what was going on. They should involve us both. They also did everything on the computer, but I am not a total computer person. I am a visual person and I would like paper. They dealt with my husband through his email, but I don’t get on his email.
Every time we tried to get a hold of somebody, it was somebody else and we never got to talk to or see the same people. I was trying to ask a question and was trying to call a phone number, but they just gave me the runaround and different phone numbers. After we found out that we could possibly pay cash, I was trying to get a cash discount. However, they had to turn us over and we had to pay $350 because they did it through the bank. I asked several people how we can get a cash discount and if they will even give a cash discount, but I couldn’t get a clear answer out of anybody and I was just passed on to somebody else. Somebody said they would come back and get their meter, but I haven't seen hide nor hair from them. I wish they would send somebody out here or to have them call me.
They also said that we can only get the top benefit out of the system. In other words, between 3:00 and 8:00, if we use it, then APS charges us 25 cents a kilowatt, whereas before that, before 3:00 or after 8:00, we got less kilowatt and we were charged less. Our system also costs a lot more because we got the backup battery, but I haven't seen a lot of good out of that yet either. We paid Sunrun a whole bunch of money, but we are not getting the benefits that our friends that paid half and went with different companies got. It’s a little embarrassing telling our friends that we got this and it has a backup battery and we paid this much.

Knowing that the cost of electricity was gonna continuously go up, I wanted to get something different. I wanted to be able to generate the electricity myself if I could. I’m a Costco member and Sunrun was offering the discount at Costco. I said that now was the time to take a look at Sunrun because of all the incentives. That was what I did and outright bought my system. I wanted to go with one of the larger companies, one due to warranties. Two, to be sure that if there were any issues at all with the system or with the installation, the company would be around.
Enrolling with Sunrun was very easy and the team that did my installation were great people. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. I had also done a battery backup, which was fairly new. I wanted to be able to generate electricity and then use it at night. I'm also able to drain the battery and recharge it first thing the next morning off of the panels. It is also nice to have if you have a power outage. We had a power outage recently and everything that I had hooked up to the system- the refrigerator, freezer, and computers- was fine.
I had a couple of issues though, but they were right here and fixed the issues. I dealt with a gal name Wanisha who did an excellent job. Their customer service was good and I was very happy. Sunrun also asked me if I would talk to a couple of other people about my system for them and I did. The price is worth it. The system has had a good impact and I'm very happy with my decision to go solar. Wanisha said that the credits are the best way to go. I felt that way with PG&E. If the rates continue to go up, use credits if you have them. I'd tell friends to get a quote from Sunrun. They are an experienced and knowledgeable company within the field and they do an excellent job. I’d highly recommend Sunrun.
Thank you for the review, Bob! We LOVED reading about your experience. I've had the Sunrun solar panels and I’ve had nothing but bad experience from them. The guy that came over here talked well and I believed everything he said. He asked me how much I pay for my electricity and I told him about $95 and up a month. He talked about paying $30 a month for electricity from Sunrun solar panels. I told him it sounded good and asked him to tell me more so he went on saying it would be $30 for the first pay off. I told him $30 a month is a lot better than $95 a month and we’ll be saving money.
PG&E was still hooked up and I told them I was going to pay as soon as I start seeing a difference in my PG&E bill. They didn’t like the idea but said it was okay. Finally, when I saw a drop in my PG&E bill about two or three months ago, I called them up and said I wanted to make a payment. They told me my bill was $207. I asked where the $200 a month came from and they said it was the late charge. I paid them anyway and then last week, I went to pick up the bill. It was $145 for that one month. I said, “What happened to the $30 a month? I’m caught up on you guys.” The way it was explained to me, it said $30 a month and not $145 a month which was more than my PG&E bill. If I knew it was gonna be that much, I would have never gotten their solar panel.
I had somebody come over to hook up the Sunrun solar panel ‘cause PG&E went off. But for some reason, we were only getting minimum power and only the light and the refrigerator were working in the whole place. I got no power on my stove. I was also supposed to get power in the living room but that didn’t happen so I couldn’t watch the TV. The reps came in and readjusted the solar panels. I called Sunrun and said they’re a bunch of liars. I also told them I wanted the thing off my roof but they said they couldn’t do that and I had to pay for the solar panel until it’s paid off. I was cussing them out and after that, I hung up. Now, I’m paying $147 a month for this solar panel and I don’t understand it. I am one sorry individual that I got this thing. Now, I'm stuck with it and I wouldn’t recommend them to anybody, not even to my dead parents.

The Sunrun rep knew his product and he gave us an idea of what we would be saving, the rental on the lease on the equipment for 20 years and approximately what we have to pay APS or SRP every month. That would always be a guestimation because we would never know how much power we're gonna use until we use it, but with the possibility of having lower power bills, we decided on signing up with them. So, they came out and put everything on the house. It went really quick and they were very thorough. They showed me everything that was going on. The guy explained to me what he was doing and how much noise he was gonna make drilling through the tile. Having gone solar, I was told that I'd have to pay APS from $20 to $30 a month, but it's an average, and over the summer I was paying a lot more than that. Even with that, I already referred several people and told them that I like Sunrun and it does good.

The people from Sunrun came and bothered me when I was moving in my new home. They said I would save money, but it was BS. I'm paying the same as if I were still with the electric company. The only difference is, my bill is split up into two now - what I pay the electric company and what I pay Sunrun. When I signed up for Sunrun for a lease agreement the deal was that I was only gonna pay the electric company 40 bucks, but that was a lie.
They said it was because it was summer and we would see how it works out. But I gotta try to minimize what I pay the electric company. That's how they came up with the $30, $40. But it don't work that way when I spoke with the electric company. I still gotta use some of their electricity. I was under the assumption that I was just gonna be paying $23 a month, not $200, $300 and then I'm paying Sunrun $150, so I don't see me saving any money. When I told Sunrun about it, it was too late. I already signed a 20-year contract. If the rep would have told me that when he came out to my property, more than likely, I wouldn't have did it because I did it to save money. If I'm not gonna save any money, it didn't benefit me. It feels like I've been bamboozled.
The payment for the lease isn't gonna change, it's what I pay the electric company. They were basing that with what I would use in the summer and the wintertime. I'm not happy about it. But I would see how it plays out because I've only had it since May, so maybe it will improve. The only way it will benefit me is if I bought the panels outright. But who's got $30,000 just to do it? I'm not one that typically complains. I guess it's my fault for not reading the fine print.

The installers and everybody who was involved were well-mannered as well. I've had a good experience with Sunrun and I have recommended them.

The personalities of the people that came and gave me the briefing made me go with Sunrun. The enrollment was very easy. They came over and just filled out the questionnaire that I've had for the app and it went smooth. I'm very pleased with the installation. They also came to follow-up and see how things were doing. They also wanted to explain the new app that they had that goes with it, so you could check everything online. I was very happy with the rep. It was the same person that I bought from. I'm very happy with the company and my decision to go for solar. As a matter of fact I was saying the other day to somebody that I haven't moved my thermostat since I turned it on. I would definitely recommend them.

I’m a Sunrun customer for 3 years, on 7/14/2018 I notice that I’m only getting about 1/2 of solar production compare to previous day or week and it’s sunny all the time. I waited for 2 weeks then I called Sunrun several time and waited another 3 day, finally they call. First ring I pick up the phone they hanged up on me. So I call back and waited again and told them I had problem with my solar for the past 3 weeks and since they are monitoring why no one call me before I reach out to them. They respond that they “was gonna call”. Anyway they told me a technician will come out within 5 day, but no. I had to call again and speak to the manager to have the technician came another 2 days later.
Technician came and told me that he need to replace an part in one of the converter box (I got 44 panel and 2 box). So he make the call in front of me and told the part is coming but need 2 week to arrive at the warehouse, then he will come and replace it. (By the way he also turn off all solar equipment, which means I received no solar energy right after he came.) 2 week past, 3 week past, 1 month past (from 8/14 day that technician came) I call again. They seem to have no clue then told me the part has not arrive yet!! So I call again on the week of 9/17 (didn’t remember what date) and they said got the part and the technician will be there on 9/24 8-12:00 which is another no show.
During all this time they still charging me the monthly fee and I’m getting nothing from solar. Also got to pay both Edison and Sunrun for not servicing my system.Advertising as the "LARGEST SOLAR COMPANY IN THE U.S. DOES NOT GOT A PARTS FOR THE CUSTOMER. And does not notify customer that something is wrong with the system."

I'd always thought about solar energy, and when I saw Sunrun at Costco, I figured they were pretty reputable and not some fly-by-night company. Their whole process was streamlined and everything they did was super easy. If I had a question or problem, I'd call them and they would get back to me right then and there or they would get back to me later that day. So far, I’m pretty happy. I have bad AC so it’s constantly running, but my electric bill has been pretty normal.

I’ve been wanting to look into solar energy services for a long time but I never owned a house where it was very practical. When the Sunrun salesman came out here, we got most of things done with him right there. The math seemed to work out for me, so it wasn’t a hard decision. Enrolling with Sunrun was fine and well explained. There was a paperwork that I needed to do but it was straightforward.
I had some things with customer service and I didn’t get it resolved. When the system was installed, they put in a password and set up a few things but our controller wouldn’t take the password and it never has taken it. Now, it functions and I don’t know if there’s any settings that I have to change. Nonetheless, I’m very satisfied with Sunrun. I’ve been watching the numbers. It started in April and I’m still ahead of the game. So with most of the air conditioning season passed, I’m delighted. I will not have to buy any electricity, with any luck, at all. Even if it was near break-even or a little less than break-even, I’d be happy to get Sunrun because the solar idea is good especially in this climate.

I have started looking into solar in IL and SunRun came about. I wasn't interested in leasing because that is the stupidest thing ever but still wanted to purchase a system. We went over options and prices and incentives. Their price was on par with other companies until you realize they are stealing the Illinois SREC's which equate to another 30% or so discount in the form of an actual check cut back to you. So they wanted to use inferior products, garbage warranties, and then steal your money. I decided to go with an honest company had have been very happy.
Please do some research and get a few quotes. Salespeople are not always there to hurt you. I think you should be honest with salespeople and have your existing quotes ready for them to look at... so they can explain the differences. 1. DONT LEASE solar, lease a car! 2. Someone came knocking on the door and told us about their solar program through Sunrun. Enrolling with them went pretty good. We didn’t really have any hiccups. We kept getting email announcements telling us when the next steps were happening. When they came out to put the panels on, it only took one day. The longest part was probably for the city checking it.
They do have an app on the phone that I can use to check my stuff, but I was trying to see where my actual paperwork was. They told me, for that part, I couldn’t use the app. I had to go to their website, and they have a copy of my agreement on the website itself. So, after that, there was no problem. I wasn’t there during the installation. My wife was there and there was one time where they had some noise maybe closer to one of the bedrooms when they were installing, but they didn’t bug my wife except to let her know that they were gonna be up on the roof and that they were done.
It's a good thing going solar because we can already see where the solar covers for a good chunk of my cost, especially this summer. I know that once I’ve had a year’s worth of time. We got it installed just before summer, so we’re really running off it. But even then, the cost of the solar plus the extra that we went over from the electric company was still cheaper than what my base electric bill would have cost me. And Anne, the lady who was very helpful came two other times just to make sure that the installation, everything was up to snuff for us, and kinda doing about the rundown. So, I like the fact that they kept on top of us. I don’t have any complaints about hopping over to solar.

I sent a cancellation e-mail to both the salesperson & the cancellation department and received a reply from both. The salesperson tried to push me to reconsider & the cancellation department said they received my request. I e-mailed the cancellation department again and they assured me the cancellation would be processed in 30 days & I didn't have to do anything else. I e-mailed again and said I wanted to make sure the cancellation went through within the 10 days. Then I started receiving phone calls and messages on my home phone. I e-mailed the cancellation department again and was given a different answer that the cancellation would take 45 days to process.
I've worked in an office. It's not that difficult to cancel a customers order and it usually only takes a couple of minutes. I didn't leave any money down. So, I don't understand why they are harassing me with phone calls & delaying to process the cancellation. Smells like a scam to me. I'd stay away from this company. I had been thinking about solar quite a bit and I had five companies come and talk to me about their plan. I primarily went with Sunrun because of the gentleman that spoke to me about the company and what he was doing. His name is Jimmy and he had a very personable and likable way of presenting his material. He monitored the project as we went through it and he kept coming back. He went off and on while the crew was there. He kept me informed. There were a few problems at one point where they were having trouble getting some of their equipment to work, but that got all settled and solved. And, Jimmy stayed in touch with me throughout. The installation went well. The crew knew what they were doing and they did it efficiently and as quickly as could be expected. The whole thing took about two weeks altogether as we had to get the Xcel Energy part of the job done.
Jimmy showed me how to read the machine or read the meters, so I know what’s going in terms of our production and what we’re doing with Xcel. And I worked out some things with Xcel to have them send the stuff to me by email, so I’d get it right on my phone. And so, I’m very positive about going solar. Since going with Sunrun, I feel better in terms of our energy production and the fact that some of what we’re doing now doesn’t require using. It’s a renewable energy source, and we’re not using as much oil or coal or petroleum to use our energy. That was always one of the things I was interested in, and I feel good about that. I’m glad I went with Sunrun and I’d be willing to recommend them to anybody.
Thank you for sharing your story, Robert! We are delighted to hear that your rep Jimmy was with you every step of the way! Congrats on going solar, we know it's a decision to feel good about! Thank you for helping us in our mission to create a planet run by the sun!

Have been calling customer service for 22 months telling them to send out a tech to check our panels as our electric bill has increased. We are now paying $160.00 to electric company and $1644.00 to Sunrun. That is more than we were paying for electric before we got the panels. A storm caused the electric to go off and on for about 4 times and the solar kicked off and on also, since that storm they haven't been working right. We started calling and they said someone would come out on a certain day. They never showed the customer service is terrible and would never recommend them to anyone. The last call we made told them to take them out was told someone would get back to us. Sad part is we haven't even had the panels for a year. None of what was told to us at the time of the sale is true. They care less about the customer just give you a runaround.

Different companies came over and tried to sell me the solar energy system but it didn’t seem like it was gonna benefit me. A friend of mine was telling me how much they can save and I understood it more clearly than when I first got introduced to it. When my friend explained it to me and then she got the guy who was a salesperson in our area to come to our house and explain everything, we decided to go with it. The enrollment process was very fast and everything went on schedule. The installer did everything and he made sure to come before I went out of town. I called him and he came over to the house with the breakdown of everything when my bill was kinda high. He explained everything in detail and he had somebody come and check. I'm very satisfied.
When my first bill came, I was shocked. It was $200 and I thought it was gonna be much less than that. I thought 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm was the time I really need to use solar because the sun is out, but it was not a good time. The electricity rate is tripled during that time, so we should minimize it. I did and I’m saving more than what I thought I would be saving, so it's good and I’m happy. When you live in Arizona, you use so much electricity so, the best way to go is solar. It has saved us a lot of money and I’ve been telling everybody about how good Sunrun’s service is.

I’ve been a Sunrun customer since 2011 and for most of that time I was very satisfied. In 2015 there was a leak under the panels and they were very responsive. They came out and fixed the leak, replaced insulation in the attic, and painted the ceiling which was stained due to the leak. This past May I again noticed a leak, contacted them and they responded quickly again, reporting they fixed the leak. However, when I checked the roof it was still leaking in several places. When I called (after several tries) they finally responded saying that my “five-year roof intrusion warranty” had expired, and they should not have come out to fix the roof in the first place.
Customer Care Rep. then stated I needed to have the roof replaced and I should contact my insurance company to see if they’d cover the cost. They also told me it would cost $100 per panel ($2800) for Sunrun to remove and replace the panels. When I pushed back on this they eventually stated they would remove and replace the panels at no cost, but I would still need to replace the roof. I stated I was still incredulous that they expected me to pay for this repair as it was so clearly due to faulty installation. I also told them that I would need some time to get bids and find a contractor to do this work. I told them I would be back in touch when I was able to coordinate that work. At no time did they tell me that this was a time-limited offer.
In August, I contacted Sunrun stating that I had a contractor ready to go and needed to coordinate having the panels removed. I talked to the same customer service representative who informed me that the company would no longer honor the agreement to remove and replace the panels for no charge and the fee had gone up to $150 per panel ($4200). I of course was quite disturbed by them going back on their word. I spoke with a supervisor who simply reiterated the same position, stating that it was not something he could control or decide and when I asked to speak with the people who do decide he replied that those people don’t talk to customers. I also have no knowledge of and can find no stipulation about a five-year roof intrusion warranty. I cannot find any such stipulation in the contract and have asked them to provide me with written proof of this agreement. I have not heard back.
I’ve had three roofing companies bid on replacing the roof. The roof has a 30-year architectural shingle installed in 2003. They all voiced surprise that I was being told the roof needs to be replaced stating that it had a good 10+ years left in it. The only place the roof leaks is in 6 spots where the lag screws that attach the system to the roof are located. I’ve had to go up in the attic and install a large tarp to inhibit further damage to the house.
I also have concerns about Sunrun removing and replacing the system as it seems clear to me the system was either installed incompetently or their technology is faulty. They came out to inspect the roof in 2011 and then agreed to a 20-year contract. Four years later the roof was leaking and 7 years in the roof is allegedly non-repairable. What’s to say if I comply I’m not in the same situation 5-7 years from now? It is my hope that this issue can be resolved but having been in effect stonewalled by Sunrun, I’ve contacted a lawyer and fear this is the direction I’ll have to go. I’m quite disillusioned by the company at this point.

We were going to build a casita and it was gonna use a lot of electricity. I talked to the people who had lived here three years ago and they said their utility bill in the summer was around $500 and that it kept increasing. They suggested to look into solar to get that cost down somewhat. One of the other houses we looked at had Sunrun's product and was happy with them. So I called them and they really were great to work with.
I had talked to people who had solar and they forewarned me that the Arizona Power Service Company takes months sometimes to get everything inspected. But I was rather fortunate because Sunrun did their thing when they said they were going to do it and it was actually quicker than they said. I had it up and running after they completed what they had to do in about a two-week timeframe. They were also excellent on the installation.
But I realized that since they came out and did the initial survey, I've built the almost 600-foot casita guest house behind my house. And I'm using a little bit more power than what they had estimated I would use. I have 32 panels and I'll probably increase that. We'll see how the winter goes and how I build up credits for next year. Other than that, I would also like some way to back-up a system and have some storage in case the power would go out for some unexpected reason. We have high wind sometimes and it knocks the power out in Arizona. People who purchased their equipment can store power but not those who lease it and I'm leasing mine. I've talked to the people at Sunrun and they said they were working on that. Next year, they may have a program where you can do that, not that you would have that much. But if you cab buy for a 72-hour period, that would be good. Nonetheless, going solar has helped somewhat.
Thank you for your review, Gary! We are so happy to hear that you are satisfied with your Sunrun system, and seeing the benefits of solar. We are hoping to get some type of storage program for our existing customers here in the next year, so be on the lookout! We wanted to lower our bill and we looked into getting solar energy services. Our next door neighbor told us about Sunrun and that he had done it. Sunrun contacted us about putting solar on the roof and lowering our electrical bills. Everybody that has come out has been really nice people. A guy came and told us that the system would cost us absolutely nothing. He said that there was an option to rent, to buy, and to do nothing and just have the system. We didn’t know how it worked, but that’s what he said, so we did it. We signed up.
However, when another guy came out to assess the situation, he told us that it was not gonna work and that we didn't have enough space at the back. But then he saw that our garage roof was flat and he said that that might work. So he climbed up there and he said that it would be great. So the crew came out to put the system up. They were only able to put three of the 22 panels on that flat roof because it has obstructions. They ended up putting 19 in the back.
We are not totally satisfied with Sunrun. We didn't understand that we would be renting the panels and it’s now costing us $129 a month. If we would have known that, we wouldn’t have done it because we didn’t save that much. Our Edison bill is $10, which is great, but now that we’re leasing the equipment from Sunrun, our bill is $139. That was what we paid for electricity to begin with, so we didn’t really save much.
They came out a week ago because we noticed that our bill was higher than we thought it would be. We were told that maybe our system was not running very efficiently. We are working on the advice they gave us, such as running the appliances after the thing loads up all day and running them at night to keep the bill a little lower.

I wanted to have possible savings on the power bill, so I looked into solar energy services. In the beginning, my experience with Sunrun was really good and everything was, “We’ll get right on it. We'll take care of that.” However, during installation, when I would ask questions, it took longer to get back a response. I even called a salesperson that's local here that I emailed and left messages for. I was trying to improve things and ask questions, but no one has returned my email. I've sent at least three emails over a month ago now that nobody ever responded to anything.
I just had some questions such as if I could do something or if I could add-on because I wanted to put more things on the back of the house. It catches 50% of the sun in the afternoons and they didn’t put it on the back and the front at the same time. The engineer said it didn’t need to since it would work on the back. It was just a question that we were asking to improve it and we were not complaining because it's not working.
When they were putting the panels up, they drilled holes on the side of the house and there was a little hole on the side that was left. They also got a big hole that I can stick my finger through it. Nobody has come back and nobody ever noticed it, but that was something they could have done too. They could have said sorry that it happened and that is all they can do to fix it, but they never answered to anything. If ever I have problems, I hope I get better results than someone saying what they did. Nevertheless, the solar energy service is up and running. It is working and has given me some savings. What bothers me is what happens if I have a problem and if they would act on the problem the same way they responded to my questions. I would still recommend them. I got a lot of my neighbors to get it right after I got it. They talked to me and I gave them some good references.

The enrollment process with Sunrun took about six months and there was no problem at all. I've had it for the last three years with my bills being $14 a month. Nothing has changed but all of a sudden, there are two consecutive bills now that over 150 bucks. Last year, I had one bill over 150 bucks but it went back down to $15 the next month. So when the second one came now, I was like, “Um, there's something going on.” I'm wondering why the solar is not covering my bills anymore. When I talked to the customer service representatives, they were straight to the point. They said there was nothing they could do until they could see my bills. So I'm sending them copies of my bills. I initially looked into solar energy services for the savings and I was told that American Solar would cover 97% of my bills. I was one of the first customers to lease Solar System from Sunrun. The sales rep assured me that it is fixed rate for the next 20 years and won’t pay any extra penny over the agreed monthly rate. After one year I got shocked when I saw the charges for the yearly reconciliation. On the top of it, they charge me 2.75 cents per kilowatt where they sell it now for about 16 or 17 cents. I called them and I tried very hard to have them remove the reconciliation charges or to drop the rate to match today’s rate or even to purchase the system, they wouldn’t even negotiate or try to resolve the issue.
Don’t trust any of their sales because they keep them for short period and then get different people to blame their mistakes on the previous sales rep. Also, don’t trust their contracts because they scam you in case you need to go with them but I don’t advise you to do so. There are a lot of companies today with better reputation and lower prices.

We just had a Sunrun solar system installed in June. Before we signed the paperwork we specifically asked what happens if the system breaks. We were told that Sunrun would take care of everything. We were also told that are only other out of pocket expense would be $6.00 a month to PNM, unless we drew more than what our solar system was producing then the excess would come from PNM. That is fine. No problem.
Our system broke down August 17th, we were never notified, it was not fixed until August 31. We were then told we would have to pay the full Sunrun bill and the full PNM bill and maybe if we had some performance credit in two years we would get a refund. And that if happened again we would be expected to pay both PNM and Sunrun again. This was not ever covered in the sales pitch, we asked multi time what would happen if it broke down and were told everything was covered. Spoke with a Supervisor's supervisor who offered to credit us for this occasion but we would be responsible for paying double bills if it happened again in the future.
