I looked into solar energy services due to the national government incentive. Solar energy services are helpful with regards to the cost-effectiveness and the long-term benefits of it.
A guy from Sunrun showed up and talked about this. He did some basic measurements and some basic cost analysis. He came over with the price and it all went well. But we had a bit of an issue with Sunrun later on. The rep said that I would get the 10% back and he told me that it's only on the materials. But he told me that the materials were more expensive than they were and was actually like most the cost with the labor and engineers and people on the back end. That was a bit misleading and I was a little upset about that. Nevertheless, Sunrun got that rectified a bit and we proceeded.
The interactions with the project manager, who I dealt with, were good. I only dealt with their customer service when my roof was leaking. It turned out, they didn't put the seals over some other brawny brackets. So they came back out and that took about two weeks. By the time I talked to the first person on a Friday, and then at Monday, I got a call from the project lead and they got a hold of somebody. But then, someone dropped the ball, so I called back again, and then they backed out. Once the right people got involved, the project manager lady got in there and she got the people out there the next day. That was fine, but that was something I wouldn't expect to happen from a company like that.
My production has been outdoing my usage, so that's not really good. But we'll see how that goes. Now, it's just the power company where I'm supposed to get some credit and they don't really show what that credit is. Nevertheless, I like going solar. My power went to almost nothing and I don't have a power bill. I'd recommend Sunrun to others, but there's a better caution. Make sure that they understand what people say and ask questions out because what I thought they meant and what they really meant were two different things.

I went to Sunrun's other client and he mentioned that he was very happy with them. He called Sunrun but we didn't reach an agreement. Sunrun was charging me a highly expensive amount to redo the roof. Their rep contacted me, arranged everything and was able to meet our needs, especially our need to lower the cost and the impact to me. So, I decided to go ahead with them. We were very, very happy and extremely satisfied with their service.
Thanks for your contact, Roberto! We strive to give a one-of-a-kind customer experience! We were so happy to read your review! We appreciate your support and excited to welcome you to the Sunrun family.

I got into solar energy services as I was trying to save money. However, right now, I have paid more money. I've been paying both Sunrun and the electric company, 80 bucks for Sunrun and 200 bucks for the electric bill, for the last couple of months. The sales guy told me that I wouldn't have to pay for the electric company anymore, that I would just pay for the minimum monthly fee of $25 and that Sunrun would take care of the rest. Sunrun does a good job but I'm not saving money. But the customer service was good and the installer did a good job.

A sales guy on behalf of Sunrun showed up at my door in 2012. I fell for his lies. Lie #1. My electric bill would go up and Sunrun would lock me at a low rate (the opposite occurred, my electric went down and Sunrun price went up). Lie # 2. I would save a $50 or more a money (I save $113 for the entire year). Lie # 3 I was told I would get Black solar panel (I was installed blue).
***Now the next problem. Back when I signed my solar contract, I was never given the opportunity to get critter guard when I leased my panels. As a result this, a squirrel not only chewed my solar panels but it chewed a huge HOLE in my roof. It built the hole because it had the shelter of the solar panels. The squirrel lived only on my roof, under the panels. It chewed my panels and no one from SUNRUN ever called to tell me my panels were not effectively working. On February 2, 2018, water leaked into my nine year old daughter’s room from a storm. I was confused since she had an attic above her room. That is when I discovered I had a hole in my roof. Well, I had water damage, black MOLD, bees, and thousands of dollars of repairs, Sunrun would not cover. I never heard of a squirrel chewing a hole in a roof without panels, have you?
I had to cover the bill of all the damage. Sunrun took off my solar panels, “free of charge” so I could fix my roof. Well it has been a month, and still no panels back on... Why? Because they do not make blue panels anymore. Back in 2012, I was promised black panels, Sunrun gave me blue. I complained in 2012. Sunrun did nothing. Now nobody makes blue panels in 2018 and Sunrun is now going to give me a few black panels, so I have a black and blue panels on my roof on the front of my house. I am told have a contract, so it does not matter what my roof looks like. So now, I have this contract for 20 YEARS with a black and blue roof and I am spending more money than I am saving.
To this day, I still have not have my panels on my roof and I get charged a monthly fee of $90. I saved $113 for the year and paid out of pocket THOUSANDS of dollars. I have had to call multiple times and I have spent hours of the phone or sending emails trying to get this resolved. NOBODY cares from Sunrun to get this resolved. When you see a sales guy from this company, I would tell you to RUN!

When I figured that the electricity prices were gonna go nowhere but up, since I live in Southern California, I should take advantage of the sun. During the enrolment, I have nothing but praise for the Sunrun team. They did everything they said they were gonna do and the only hiccups were with waiting for the electric company. Sunrun didn't try to upsell me and everything was up to me. When I had some questions, everyone was real good and answered all of them. I look every day and as the sun is out more and more, I'm generating more electricity and it's everything that I had hoped it would be. We're fortunate that the electricity here has only gone twice in 17 years but if it ever goes out, I like the thought of having the Brighbox Battery backup.

I saw a Sunrun ad that says the government will be paying some off. I contacted Sunrun and the installation was okay. But right now, I don't know if I saved money or not because I've only had it for a few months. A local electrical company still charged the setup in a service. So for the first two months, I didn't see any difference, yet per month I saw a bit difference.

Due to the environment and cost of electricity here, I started looking into solar energy services. I looked at Sunrun reviews and they were good. And then Costco works with Sunrun and vetted them out well. Also, I'm on a professional networking group, and one of Sunrun's reps is in my group. I've known him for a while and I trusted him. He came and explained my options and we started the process. Enrolling with Sunrun was a smooth experience, and all Sunrun people kept in touch with me the whole time and they kept moving until it was done.
One of the other things that stuck out on them was that Sunrun use their own people. They don't subcontract out the people to do the work. So far, I'm happy going solar. And from what I know, Sunrun already generated quite a bit of energy which people are surprised to hear. One thing that has been a bummer was that I have referred a few people to Sunrun, however, they can't talk to anybody out. So, it seems like the referral program might go out the window on that. It'd be nice to be part of that referral program even if they happened to put their name in at Costco to get some info. But I still tell them my experience with Sunrun and that they could come and look at it.
Thanks for making our day, Lauren! Setting the standard in outstanding service is something we (seriously) obsess over. We also strive to make joining our effort in creating a planet run by the sun very clean and simple. Welcome to the Sunrun family!

There were a lot of promises from the sales rep that didn’t hold water and he wasn’t very informative. For instance, I didn’t change my plan before I got grandfathered in and nobody told me so I’m still paying a generation charge every month on top of my solar lease. Those two combined are higher than my straight electric bill would be. And I’m trying to fix that with the electric company.
He also didn’t get the right size for my house. The original contract said that it would be 78% and I asked why it was not 100%. He told me that I would be generating so much power that I would still gonna have an excess and then I would be doing credits back. The sales guy tweaked all the way through. I was thinking that he knew what he was talking about. I'd even called Sunrun numerous times asking if I could get more panels on my array. However, they would have to set up another array with another array and that was crazy. Sunrun is the parent company and they didn't have anything to do with it until after I had my permission to operate which began in February.
Thank you for your feedback, Gary. We are so sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your solar system. Our number one goal is to provide clean energy but also that should include some savings. We based the guaranteed production on your pre-solar usage as long you are using the same amount of energy you should not be seeing higher utility bills. We would like to look into this for you. One of the nephew's cousin used to work for a solar company here in the area but I didn't go through with it. Then, later he told me that he works for Sunrun and so I went ahead and gave it a try and they did it a couple of months ago. He was okay but I wasn't happy with how the installers installed the system. I have roof tiles and they removed them to put the system in and they left some broken tiles on the roof. If I have leaves on the ground and stuff, I go pick them up because I don't like the way it looks. So, I see my roof up there and I still can see the tile out and I can't get on the roof. I can only imagine how it really looks. And eventually, water leaked through.
Also, they were supposed to install my inverter but gentleman who was supposed to do it, didn't bring it out the day of the installation. The guy told me that they'll come back the next day in the morning to finish up because they still have another installation in my town. The next day, it rained and I waited for them until 1 PM. By then I figured that they don't work in the rain, so I went off and did other businesses around town. I came back at 6:30 PM and somewhere along the line when I drove off they came into my property, got on the roof, and did everything they did. The next day, they called me as I was coming home from work and told me that they were done. I was like, "What you mean you guys are done? You guys still have to finish the rest of that." They told me, "No, we went yesterday in the afternoon and took care of that." But they didn't even give me a call.
They put the convertibox 4 feet from where I actually wanted it. Their manager told me that they're gonna take care of it but a month later, the same installer comes out and all he was gonna do was move it down about a fourth. I was like, "No, that's not what I wanted. I want you to move it where I want it over here." And he was like, "No, I'm not gonna do that." I said, "Okay, then. If you're not gonna do that then there's no reason to move it down. Leave it where it's at and have a good day." And that's basically it. Am I happy? Not 100%. I feel like I'll have a say so of where I actually wanted my system installed. The system saves me $100 a month but if I had to do it all over again, I would've gone with another company that wasn't gonna cheat me my needs and wants. It's hard to recommend them.

I learned about Sunrun through a friend of mine and we decided to look into solar energy services because we had been having a lot of power failures in our area plus my utility bills kept going out. The enrollment process went pretty fast. Mike was the sales guy who came over and explained everything to me. He coordinated the whole thing and kept in touch with me through the whole process which was really nice. Sunrun delegated the project out to Premier, another company, to do the installation. And Premier was the ones that I had problems with. So, I talked to Sunrun about that and they got things taken care of. The overall process was easy from the time we signed to the time we finished.
I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar. There was a recent power failure in our area and I had no idea what was going on because my things were running as normal. It was just until I walked over to our local Home Depot that I found out we were having a power failure. And that was so nice because that was the reason I did it in the first place. I have been really happy that I don’t have to rely on Electric Grid. I liked the people who worked for Sunrun. They were all about customer satisfaction and they took care of their customers. They were on top of things as I was voicing my complaints. They were very attentive and they teach everything. I would recommend Sunrun. It's a good investment.

Shawn, a gentleman from Sunrun knocked on our door. We listened to his presentation and he was very good. He explained everything a lot better than the previous people that have tried to sell on us. I would hire him. We filled out paperwork. However, after they got it installed and APS put in the meter, it still took five months, August until February, before they turned it on. It seemed like an unreasonably long time. Moreover, our neighbors also experienced the same thing. But once we turned on the switch and the lights came on it was working fine and we're happy with it. We'd recommend Sunrun to friends and tell them to go see Shawn.

I was a first time home buyer and I wanted to save some money. At that time, the representative from Sunrun was in the neighborhood installing solar systems. I heard good things about them so I walked around and asked the neighbor for the representative's number. I called and made an appointment. Then someone came over, looked at the bill, and said that he could save me some money. After that, he ran my credit and the process was painless, flawless, and quick from the installation to when they had to turn on the solar panels and get permission for it. Additionally, their customer service representatives contacted me every step of the way. They also have an app where I could see my billing. And if they had problems with the system, like if it was not producing energy, they'd call me before I even find out. So far, they're doing a good job and if friends were to ask me about them, I'd tell tell them that they will save energy with Sunrun.

Out here in California, PG&E's rates are going through the roof so I got into solar energy. Sunrun was a little cheaper than other providers so I settled with them. During the enrolment process, the guy came out to the house and everything went well. I don't have an electric bill anymore which is good. However, when I ask questions, nobody can answer them. I got a battery on my system and everybody I talked to don’t know how it works and I want to know. I got the BrightBox but I think I wasted a lot of money because it doesn't do anything. The way it was described, it was supposed to discharge at night when the solar wasn't producing and that's not what's happening. Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night and I've checked and the battery's still 100% full and it's not discharging. They also told me that in the summertime when PG&E's rates go up, it'll discharge but that doesn't make any sense.

We really liked the Sunrun salesperson that came out to the house and spoke to us. He was very nice and answered all of our questions thoroughly. Enrolling was easy but our contact after we signed up was not nice and didn't communicate well. That's when we went back to the guy who signed us up. So far going solar has been wonderful, although I wish that they had a battery backup. We tried to address that several months ago and they said that they would contact us when they have it available but they never have. Recently, we were in Costco and we were informed that they didn't have it available. I'm paying just as much in the winter time with solar than I would be without solar and in the summertime, it's okay. I'd tell friends that Sunrun is adequate but to shop around.

We wanted to cut a few of the energy bill so we looked for a solar company and researched three different places. Sunrun was connected to Costco so we figured if anybody's gonna be around for a while, it would be Sunrun because Costco picks the right people. Also, when we are ready to sell the house, I want to be able to tell people that it's a good quality system up there. Sunrun's a good name so that also helps. Everybody at Sunrun was cordial, on time, very thorough and did a great job. It's also interesting to watch the solar every day and see what's going on with it before you receive some bills so I'm happy with it. It's doing what it said it was gonna do.
Also, we had a power outage here for four days last year and I thought it would be good to have a backup battery so we purchased the Brightbox battery which we can point out if we sell our place in the future. It will keep things and refrigerators going while the power is out. It's interesting telling people about going solar. Everybody's interested in it these days, so they come up and I'm happy to tell them that we've done this and get a lot of responses from people.

Sunrun is awesome and I love them. They are a national company and the only one that offered a lease program. I was beyond impressed when I enrolled with them as the process was easy and completely seamless from start to finish. They were also extremely professional. My local project manager kept me apprised of every step of the installation process, in addition to the progress updates I get from the app I downloaded. I've also had interaction with their customer service team and it's been excellent.
There's a bit of a hiccup with my panels, though. They were supposed to be installed inverted at an angle so they can capture the most amount of sun but they weren't. They were installed flat and there's currently a work order in place to resolve that issue. So now the panels are not optimum and not mitigating my electric bill like it was supposed to. But the experience was really good and once they reinstall the panels, I’ll have a better idea.

Due to the rising cost of electricity and utility, getting solar energy was something I had to do. It is a way to kill two birds with one stone. Plus, Costco is a good retailer and they take care of their customers. I figured it would be a good move for me because they serviced us well. And if there are any problems, Costco is good at handling issues like that and I could just get a hold of them. I talked with the gentleman from Sunrun there at Costco. Then he sent another representative over who explained the whole system to me and how long it was gonna take. They were proficient in doing what they do and it went really smoothly. Plus, every time someone came out, they were very professional, answered any questions that I had and would follow up again. They're customer-oriented and it has been a win-win for me.
With Sunrun, my utility bill has gone down from $100 plus a month down to $12 a month. I have a jacuzzi and a sauna, which use quite a bit of energy. Everything is good and I don't have to worry about how often I use the sauna. I can go in there daily if I wish. The other day, Edison was doing some work on our lines and they told us that our power was gonna be off. My power went off and that was when the battery kicked in. It operated the designated things that I had set up with the representative from Sunrun. He asked what I wanted the battery to run if I had a power outage. I wanted my refrigerator, our bedroom, another room and the laundry room. When the power went out, those kicked on and we were able to use them. It was a good test. Sunrun is a very professional company and the service has been very good. I would recommend them to anyone.

I know it was like more expensive than the other ones but he gave me a bigger unit.
Sunrun also had a very good installation crew. They did everything like it was up to be excellent service. I cannot really complain about them. They did excellent job. I'm satisfied with everything. Except one thing -- the salesperson. He explained to me things that I would be able to cover more and he gave me a bigger system but I have some difficulty. I ended up having a really outrageous light bill and I couldn’t keep doing that so I looked into solar energy. My brother's friend came over and he was talking about Sunrun, but it was The Grid Company that chose Sunrun, who they worked with all the time. Enrolling with Sunrun was a pleasure. It seemed like the easiest thing I've ever done. It was easy to work with them and the process was smooth. They then gave me a timeframe and they finished the project before what they had estimated. One time, they noticed that the system wasn’t working right so they called to schedule an appointment to come out and check it out. Talking to them was comfortable. Moreover, they seemed concerned about the issue.
Sunrun brought my PG&E bill down way lower than what it was. I don’t feel the pressure of having to have the high energy bill and worrying about having to pay it off and making arrangements. Plus, having Sunrun allows me to pay off the $700 I owe PG&E in the first place. I'm very satisfied with my decision to go with Sunrun. I don’t really like a lot of complicated stuff and they took all the complication out of everything. I'd tell friends that my experience with Sunrun has been the best that I've had and that on the whole, customer service was really pleasurable. I recommend them to friends.

We moved into a new house and knew that the electric bill was going to be much more expensive than the townhouse we were moving from. We did an online Google search and Sunrun's name came up along with a couple of others and we made appointments with several. We love Jay, Sunrun's salesman. With Sunrun, we liked that there wasn’t a lien going to be put on my house because we own our own business and that looks very bad for my credit. We also liked that our roof faces different directions and we were going to be eligible for plastic solar panels without a huge outlay of money upfront.
We had a wonderful experience enrolling with them. Everything has been top-notched and they handled everything for getting the project inspected. They met us here when each one of the county inspectors was coming. There were several different county people that had to come and approve it. And then, PG&E had to come and approve it. Sunrun walked us through the whole process and to carry the paperwork and had a representative here every time. It did not match some of my other friends' experience when they went with SolarCity, and we were very happy.
Overall, the process wasn’t fast but it was easy. It took a couple of months to get everything installed and up and running. They kept us updated as things were happening and their customer service called me to tell me that they wanted to come take another look at our system and take some pictures of it. Our system got installed in January which has the least amount of sun so we had an exceptionally cold winter here in Maryland with a lot of wind. The first month, my electric bill didn’t seem to change much. But the bill that I just received for March was $48 from the electric company. As the sunny days enters and we waved goodbye to the cold, it will cover everything so we're excited. I'm 100% satisfied to go solar and I'm super happy.
I'd give Jay a gold star ‘cause he has solar panels on his roof which kinda also helped us to lean towards Sunrun. Jay kept up with us through the process. He was easy to reach. He was available by text and if I thought of something, I could text him then he texts me back sometime in the next 24 hours. I've recommended Sunrun to a few friends. Sunrun gives me an accurate expectation as to how much the solar the panels that go in our roof will cover the electricity that we use in our house so that was really helpful.
Everybody on their crew from the guy in-charge like the crew chief down to the guy picking up the pieces that the installations guys might drop were polite, kind, respectful, smiled and seemed happy to work here. Everybody was lovely and we have had an awesome experience from beginning to end. Jay, our salesman is fun and passionate. Our installation team was not only efficient, but friendly too. The Sunrun team member who was meeting our final inspectors were patient. We can tell by our experience that Sunrun has worked very hard in their hiring of people to represent their company.
Thank you for contacting us, Katherine! We are ecstatic to hear you had such a great experience from the very beginning, our goal is to be customer obsessed! We are happy to have you as part of the Sunrun family!

I have turned down several people trying to put solar panels on my roof in but I finally decided to do it with Sunrun. There was an installation glitch and they came out and fixed it. My control box is on the side of the house. It doesn’t have a sidewalk to it and I’m handicapped. They sent someone out to turn it on and when they found the glitch that I pointed my neighbor found, they delayed turning it on and repaired it, and came out and turned it on without talking to me again.
I’ve only been on Sunrun for two months. It’s evidently working because I got a lower bill from APS. I didn’t realize how much it put APS out of the loop in terms of funding. The purchasing of the loan for the installation was done through APS. I thought they were making a thing on that one. That was one that I never got a discussion about, what the financing cost on that was as opposed to anything else like paying cash. That was information I wanted because sometimes I’ve gotten money to cover a couple of outlays like that. It saves me money.

I saw military discount for solar panels on the internet and I just put my name and address. And then Sunrun called me up. They provided a questionnaire. I filled out where I live and all that. And then Bryan called me up when he was in California and then in Oklahoma. But Hawaii is a little slow sometimes. I didn't get the discount. They said I wasn't qualified for that, which is fine. They explained it all to me and that I'd be making money off it.
As soon as I put the Sunrun unit in, we probably got more rain than Hawaii's got in probably 20 years. But we'll still end up selling back a lot of electricity because there's nobody here to use it. But even on a cloudy day and it's overcast it's still generating powers. The guy from Sunrun explained everything, showed me how everything works. And in case we have a hurricane or lava flow or something and the power goes out completely like the commercial power we could just flip the switch and just go straight solar. And it will run for a couple of hours anyway or more.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Bob! It's wonderful to hear things went so well for you, this is our goal! We appreciate you joining us in our mission to create a planet run by the sun.

I had been looking into solar energy as soon as I bought my house two years ago. I was trying to find the best thing and I found Sunrun at Costco. They said that I would get a rebate, but I said I wouldn't because I'd lease the system instead to finance them. Alex and Christopher were outstanding. Everything they said that was going to happen happened exactly the way it did. The installation people were awesome as well. They installed everything and they were quicker than they said they were going to be.
However, my experience with going solar has been hell. It died six days after they started it up. They didn’t call me and let me know it died. I had just assumed I was on solar the whole time. They didn’t even know it died. I went out there and looked and said, "Wait a minute. Why is my electric bill $300 when I’m supposed to be using solar?” When I called them, the lady on the other line said, “And you didn’t notice? What do you want me to do about it?” Then they sent someone out and said he fixed it. However, it didn't work. He replaced a single part on the system and then that blew up, so then they had to come out with a new system. So the machine was not working and a rep told me that there’s nothing she can do for me and that I have to pay my bill and wait. I love the salespeople but I didn't care for the call center.
I just paid $149 for two months and then I paid another $400 to my regular electric bill. So now I’m out $700 and I never received service from them. I told them I want my money back and they told me that they would give it back on my anniversary. But I would definitely recommend them. We just got a dumb deal on our machine. There's not much we can do about that.

Solar energy services provide safe clean energy and since I was introduced to Sunrun’s Brightbox battery, I thought that was the best way to do it. Sunrun's also got more support than a smaller provider and enrolling with them was a very good experience. They did all the work so I didn't really have to do so much paperwork. It was one-stop shopping to me. I'm really satisfied with what they’re doing and so far the cost has been cut down quite a bit so it’s really good.

I have the perfect roof. The back roof of my house faces south, there’s lots of room on it for solar panels, and I had been considering getting them for the purpose of going green and cutting down on my cost each month. I had a Sunrun salesman come over and we talked about it. Then I made my decision which I hope is the right one. I went with a 20-year paid upfront lease, so, I’m hoping they are still in business in 20 years. There was a contract to sign then I had to put $500 upfront to get the program started. Then I had to put money up and pay the rest of it after it was installed. They had to get all the approvals from APS here before they could turn the system on and everything went fine until one little glitch later on.
When I turned it on in about February about five months later, my inverter went out and would not produce power anymore. After a couple of days that it was not producing anything, I notified Sunrun about it. It was their equipment and they were the ones that were supposed to be monitoring this. They said they usually let it go three days before they check it out. I told them I needed to get somebody out here to find out what was going on and it was about a week later that somebody came and checked it out, and verified that it was the inverter that was bad. So I figured they’d get one right on there and that it wouldn’t take very long. But it was a month between the time it went out and when they finally got another inverter on there. I was a bit upset about that because I lost all my credits and my bill was higher.
The system got working again but at the end of the year it did not produce as much power that they said it would. Sunrun cut me a check for the difference, so that made me a little happier. Other than that, everything seemed to go pretty smooth. I was happy with the salesman. I called him several times to ask him various questions about what was going on and he got things moving even though it took a long time. The installer and the ones who did the repair was Titan Solar Power and I tried to be understanding because I knew they had a lot of business and they were busy trying to beat APS and their regulations. But it seemed to me that it was an excessive amount of time to get another inverter put on. Surely they had extra inverters if they were putting solar panels on houses.
There was also a design change at the last minute. I had a picture of how they were going to put the panels which covered the entire roof. But when they started putting the panels on, it was not the design that was approved. So I called my salesperson and he found out they didn’t take into account that I had a fireplace exhaust that was causing a little bit of shade. So they had to change the design a little bit which didn’t bother me that much. I have 34 panels up there and I’m overall satisfied with what they did. We haven’t had much rain here to find out whether or not I’ve got any leakage but they’re supposed to fix those if there is any.
My start date was January 24th and the solar panel unit has produced 101% of my estimated electricity usage. So, I’m not dissatisfied with the company. I’m understanding of things that go wrong and so as long as they keep it working, and I have the contract here and they take care of what’s supposed to be taken care of, I’ll be happy.

I was to enjoy the solar right away but there was trouble in the connection with the system. They've put the battery and the installation is complete but due to the problem with the connection, they asked me to turn it off for now for the battery. I shopped around quite a bit for solar panels and I first heard about Sunrun through Costco. Our electricity bill at our home was pretty high so I thought that solar energy services might do something to help us out. However, I'm not happy with Sunrun at all because I purchased an 80%-20% offset and $23,000 in solar panels and my electricity bill has probably only gone down 50%. The 80% was not accurate and I have a lot of issues with Sunrun at the beginning too. With the installation, they ran a grounding cable across the front of my house and attached it to the spigot. It was absolutely awful. The guy came out and he gave me a credit and apologized, which I accepted. It was fine, but it hasn’t met my expectations whatsoever.
One of the things the sales people told me was that they were going to get all the tax credits when we file our taxes, but that was false too and I didn’t get any of that. I only got a small portion of it. Not the labor and everything else that they told me and got on the email. So, I had my friend write an email to Sunrun and ask about the tax credit and the same guy responded that he would get 30% tax credit across the board. He responded to him the message that he gave me which was wrong and false. I was lied to and it didn’t meet the expectations that they spoke of. I would never recommend solar to anybody.
I'm making payments on this stuff to purchase it but it doesn’t do what it's expected to do. Also, I refinanced my house and when the appraiser came over, I said that I got solar panels on the house too, but he said that solar panels don’t increase the value of the home. That hit me hard too because I expected that to be a home improvement which would increase the value of my home. So, there's been a lot of negatives that have come my way. I should have spoken with my dad more about it because he knows so much about the industry and he would never get solar panels either. The technology is just not there yet. I'm not satisfied with solar at all. Don't get solar panels.

I've been looking for solar panels from other places and it's like the ones through Costco were the best value for the money. I saw Sunrun there and they answered my questions and it seemed like it was a pretty good deal so I decided to go with them. Everything went very well and they had it installed in the time frame that was promised. However, there was a problem later on. A couple of solar panels were loose but Sunrun came over within a day and took care of it.
There's a console outside and a few things that I can access from the menu and it would be nice if Sunrun would send a PDF file on how to access and read the panel that generates electricity. It would be very helpful to have something that shows me what its capabilities are and how to go through the menu. And now, the days are a little bit longer so we generate more solar. And our energy bill is less than what it was before so it's nice. And since we paid cash for the solar panels, we had no outstanding bill, so it's savings for us. Our experience with Sunrun was very good and I'm very pleased.

Do not buy a Sunrun LG battery. It makes no financial sense. MAYBE it will when SDG&E moves my peak time of use from 11 AM-6 PM to 4 PM-9 PM in the future. My LG battery is never discharged on weekends, even on hot summer days. It is not discharged at all from October through April. Here is the Sunrun response to battery usage:
"Thank you for contacting Sunrun Customer Care in regards to the battery discharge. During winter rates, the battery does not discharge. BrightBox - SDG&E: DR-SES (NEM 1.0). Summer = May 1 - September. Summer weekdays we cycle: Charge from solar production before 11 am. Discharge 11 am - 6 pm. Weekends are all OFF PEAK. So I paid $4,000 for the LG battery to be used May through September, 5 days a week. So 5 months times 5 days per week equals about 110 days of battery usage out of 365 day year."
This limitation is not in my Sunrun contract, nor was this limitation mentioned or documented in the sales and installation discussion. The Sunrun web page states only (my emphasis): "Depending on your neighborhood’s electricity rate structure, Brightbox can offset energy costs when electricity rates are at their peak. And in a blackout, your Brightbox offers a sustainable source of energy so you don’t have to spend on unruly and expensive generators. Maximum savings? We’ll take that any day."
Brightbox is the Sunrun term for solar panels with the LG battery attached. Note Sunrun does not state any details about the actual usage of the battery. The irony is that the SolarEdge Inverter is programmable through a simple user interface to allow any time any day battery usage. Of course Sunrun controls the battery usage and will not change the scheduled usage. Why? I believe it is to extend the life of the LG battery to 20 years. So, if you are considering a Sunrun solar system, skip the battery and save yourself a few thousand dollars.
Updated on 07/14/2018: Now 2018 is the second year of operation and Sunrun, without notification, limits the battery usage even more. In 2017 the LG battery was allowed to discharge to 20%. Now in 2018, they limit the discharge to 35%, effectively reducing its usefulness and making the $4,000 cost payback period even longer. Sunrun technical response to my complaint is as follows:
"Thank you for contacting Sunrun Customer Care in regard to your BrightBox battery. The state of California is a state where they have frequent power outages. The battery is built to not go below 30-35%. That way if the power goes out you will have four hours of use from the battery. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need anything else."
Two points. I have lived in current home 14 years and have had one power outage (before Sunrun installation), so preserving battery at 35% seems like an unlikely need. (At 35% level there is so little energy left in the battery, it will not help power my home through a multiple hour power outage.) Second, nowhere in the Sunrun contract nor on the website do they mention any limit to battery usage. I have not found any LG RESU 10 documentation that limits its discharge to 35%.
Why is Sunrun doing this? To preserve the LG RESU 10 for the length of the 20 year lease so they do not have to pay for a replacement battery. I suspect next year Sunrun will lower battery discharge to 50% and so on until it is not used at all and can for sure last the 20 years. If you get a Sunrun system, do not pay for the battery (regardless if LG or Tesla or whatever).

If you don’t understand the verbiage of a lease, don’t trust them to disclose everything. I was lied to when asked about certain things, the salesperson convinced me it was a good deal, lied about everything, offered to help me with my pool solar on his own time, talked about church, gained my trust so I would sign the deal with the devil. I’ve been unhappy since day 1, but I own up to signing the lease. The kicker though is their panels caused a leak, warranty was for only 5 years, I didn’t know this or else I wouldn’t have signed. How am I liable for their panels causing a leak, regardless if it’s 5, 10, or 15 years, damage is damage, it should be covered through the lease life. There are so many other issues besides that, I’m paying actually more per month than I used to prior to panels.
The salesperson visited me 2 years prior and I told them it doesn’t make sense to me to install solar. The second time around I asked why does it make sense now? Well, he lied his way through, oh, said salesperson was fired shortly after my deal. I’m only now complaining because I was just going to deal with the crap, but now that my roof leaks and I have to pay, that’s just wrong and I was stupid, lesson learned. We are now stuck with this for 11 more years, it has changed our lives financially while they rip us off. I asked for them to take them down, $39,000, what a joke.

I signed up Sunrun a few months ago. The individual who explained the process to my family and I, along with their inspectors provided falsified impressions regarding snow related questions. The solar panels were installed and it snowed a few times resulting in heavy dumping of the snow onto the second part of the roof which results in the house and windows shaking. We specifically asked if there are any complaints with customers and the snow running off, we were told, "No, there are no issues with the snow, it does not even weigh down on the panels." We trusted the employees’ statements. This was a total disaster - I cannot sleep in my room or cook in the kitchen because of the heavy dumping when it snows. And not the mention, the potential damage to vehicles in the yard.
When I emailed my representative, she said they cannot do anything about this and that we can pay up to $3000 to get snow guards installed; they even recommended a company who they use for this issue because it’s common. WHY DID THEY lie to us when all the SNOW RELATED QUESTIONS WERE ASKED - instead, we were told there are no issues! I replied to the email, every week for 3 weeks I sent the same email and NO ONE to date has replied to my email. I called my representative and she was unbelievably rude on the phone and even hung up; I was told to avoid those areas in the house when it snows! I called the individual who introduced us to the system and to date he is avoiding all our calls/texts and emails. This company just wants your money. If you have any issues at all, they will ignore you and not take your complaints serious.
The stress we have gone through with this company is not worth anyone’s time; their employees are not reliable and trustworthy. Please at all costs, please avoid them. I wish I read reviews before signing up with them. If the company falsified reports of their sales and was investigated by The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and has lawsuits against false marketing - IT IS NOT a COMPANY to GO WITH. Now I am stuck with the panels and no one from the company to returns calls or reply to emails. AVOID! Another issue - my contract on the app still says I will be paying $80, when I got a new contract that says I will be paying $72 due to adjustments needed upon further review by the inspectors prior to installation; so far the system is not turned on by Sunrun so let’s see what other issues I face.
Thank you for your communication, Sherry. We understand your frustration regarding your panels when it snows. Our management team is working on resolving this matter for you. Someone will be in touch shortly.

Energy keeps going up and up and we had a $400 electric bill last summer, so it was just time to research another avenue to explore. I was researching solar for the house that I bought in June of last year and Sunrun was one of the companies that came up, together with Horizon and some other ones. I contacted them along with the other companies. Sunrun came out and gave me a presentation and I decided to go with them. Enrolling with Sunrun was really easy. The guy, Chris, came and gave his presentation and we talked about it. They set up an account for me so that I can go online and check my progress. They also sent update emails which keeps me informed, which I found really great so I don’t always have to call and say, “Hey, what are we doing?” They keep me updated unless something comes up until the last minute. But for the most part, what they said was going to happen, happened.
I liked the fact that Sunrun has been in business and that they have their warranties on your roof. They were very personable and very accommodating. They answered all my questions and there wasn’t a hesitation like thinking about an answer to come up with for a question. They knew their stuff and that made me feel comfortable with them.
Genevieve has been my contact at Sunrun and we’ve spoken a couple times. We had to change a couple of inspection dates because of my days off and she was very accommodating. She had to contact Edison and the City to get the inspectors come out on a different date. The days that they didn’t need access to the house weren’t a problem. But the days that they did, we had to change twice. It was well within a reasonable time limit. It was only around seven to ten days difference, so it worked out really well.
We just got to turn on our system at the end of March, so we really haven’t had a bill yet. But from what they told me and the fact that they gave me the figures, I’m sure the bill is going to be a lot less than the hundred-dollar bills that we’ve been getting. Being a single person with my youngest son living with me still, we needed to find something that we could count on every month that this would be the bill so we could manage our systems and our budget. There are no surprises, so that helps as well. We know exactly what we’re going to be paying.
My son has friends that have purchased solar systems and have regretted not getting the Brightbox Battery simply because we experience quite a few power outages during the summertime. So, with having that as a backup, we feel more confident that the freezer won’t go out and all the food get spoiled on that. However, the one thing that I don’t really like is the fact that Sunrun wants me to sign up for autopay so they don’t charge me a service charge. I hate being forced into doing that to save money. That should just be an option and it bothered me a little. In the grand scheme of things, it’s got to get paid anyway. They let me choose my payment date and they offer me that option. It’s not a big deal but I don’t like having that as part of saving money. They should offer that to their client as a matter of convenience. Other than that, I’m hoping that when we get our bill, we’ll still be happy.

We had been thinking about solar energy services for a while and we just happened to be at Costco one day, then we decided to have Sunrun come out and give us an estimate. I researched a little bit before deciding to go through it and they have very high ratings. They came out last summer and we hadn’t been in our house long enough to get a good, accurate estimate on how many panels we were allowed to buy, so we decided to wait until we had been in the house for a year. We told them to come out in October and that was great. Their rep was awesome, so we decided to go ahead with it.
For the most part up until the installation, everything went great. Then the installation came and it didn’t pass inspection. The inspector came back and said there was a bunch of stuff that they had to do, so they came back and did that. Then another inspector came and wanted to do different stuff. It was a nightmare. They finished the installation initially in the first part of November and didn’t actually turn on the system until February. They said that it was because the City changed the regulations.
After they turned it on, we got a call that it’s not communicating with Sunrun, so they sent somebody out to take a look at it. My daughter was there and they told her something. Apparently, the box thing inside of the house wasn’t working so they took it, turned it off and didn’t tell us. I didn’t even know they had been there until I noticed when I checked the outlet that there was no generation. I called them and they told me I needed a new box because mine was not working properly. They said it would take two weeks. Fortunately, it took about eight days until they came back and put the new box on and it’s been fine since.
The system started working properly in the middle of February. We just paid our very first bill for the whole month and it was $13. Before it was a $100 to $200. At this point, though, I’m a little concerned because we don’t have the build up. The way it works in Nevada is, in the winter time we build up the credits because in the summer time, it’s so hot here that sometimes our air conditioning bill in the summer reaches $600. I hope that they’re never that high again but I think we’re going to still end up paying some bills in the summertime. But other than that and the guy turning it off and not telling me, I would recommend Sunrun because everything went smooth. They were also always very nice and very courteous.

I found out that Sunrun would do everything for free. It was an easy and pleasant experience enrolling with them and the crew kept me up to date during installation. It's been pretty good, so far. It took me almost three months before it got rid of my Duke Power electric bill, but now my power bill has gone from 200 to 66. It did more than cut my electric bill in half.

I have an issue with the breaker box that was put in. It blows all the lights when I plug things in. That never happened before. I have contacted the company many times with nothing but a runaround. They refuse to take care of the problem. In fact they ignore when you email them. When you call them you get someone will get back to you within 7 days! 7 days for an electrical issue which could burn down your house. This has been going on since Aug of 2017. You upgrade a breaker box and keep 100 amps when the electric company has a 200 amp meter outside. Then they finally send an electrician here with one of their guys who did nothing. And sent a report to the company a report on what you touched nothing so how can you know what's wrong?
I have asked for that report and have not received a reply. Then they tried to tell me in an email that the warranty is void because I put a hot tub in that was not there before. They lie. I have the paperwork that my hot tub has been in since 2008 and shows on the panel I sent them the bill of sales and the copy of the electrical hook up back from 2008. You guessed it. No response. I have a claim which they are failing to pay now using every excuse in the book. I would not recommend them to anyone. Plus I have the paperwork that they never told the building inspector that they upgraded the breaker box. It is not on the permit or the COC which is against the law. The letter I received and answered without a response once again $1000.00 for $6500 worth of damage and repair. I think not.

We went to Home Depot and there was a clerk in the store who said that if we had Sunrun, our bills are going to be cheaper. She was a real character and she kept us going for almost 20 minutes. She had us so excited we wanted to buy it right then. Then she sent guys to the house to talk to us. They were so polite and so helpful talking about Sunrun that we went along with it. It took over six months from when we met with them to anybody came around, and we waited.
Everything about enrolling with Sunrun was super. They were really on it and I've been trying to get it moved. I got my neighbor and he has finally got hooks on it. He's been coming over to my house and he asked me to tell him about Sunrun because he wanted it before but didn’t know what he did wrong and nobody ever came back. They come, they zero in on you and then they leave you alone too long. I kept it up because I was fascinated with the men and they were really cordial and super fun people.
We love going solar and it has somewhat changed our life because our local light company got some approval so that we all have to pay more now. That was when we jumped for it but other than that, it's fine. When my light bill went from 300 to 200, I was a little happy. And then it jumped to one and a half and it was even better. We got more people in our house and there are 13 of us now. I just wish that Sunrun had come earlier. I was so excited but we just hung in there. And because they didn’t come for quite a while, we thought that it was like Vivint. Vivint was a really bad experience. I wish that Sunrun would put Undercover Boss in because they will get many more people.

My experience with Sunrun was nothing but good. It was an excellent experience especially with the project manager, Ryan. I looked into solar energy services for the summer with having an air conditioner. Enrolling with Sunrun was made easy because Ryan was very accommodating and he made sure that the appointment with him didn’t interfere with my work and other schedules that I had. He said that he’ll be there whatever was available for me. And in my situation, I was able to sit down and talk to him about the project after hours. He was more upfront with me about the good and the bad of doing this and was able to give me the answers that I was looking for and being honest about that.
The other company told me to not worry and that they were going to give me a $1,000,000.00 insurance for my roof. That was impractical and it was overselling. And there were things that Ryan was able to explain to me that the other company did not. For example, I have a mid-century house and the other company did not point out to me about upgrading my electrical panel. They did all the measuring and all the initial assessment but they never mentioned anything about my electrical panel not being within the standard and needed to be replaced. That was the big expense which Sunrun covered and I'm grateful for it. And whatever things that they did on the wall and on the siding, they fixed it, so I'm happy with that.
I'm also happy knowing that my bills in my gas and electric have to be separated now because I'm on that metering system, but when I checked my bill for the electricity, even though it's been winter here in California or it snowed up where the sun doesn’t sun as much, my bill is $9 for electric for the last two months. I still have to pay for the panel but it's just like what I used to pay for my gas or for my electric. It's a good thing considering that my house is a mid-century home, so the insulation is not as good as the current homes right now. If I have to turn on my A/C this summer, I will enjoy it and I'm not going to be a tightwad.
I'm going to have that peace of mind. Now I could sleep with the A/C on. Or as soon as I come home, I could schedule my A/C to come on an hour before I get home so that it's nice and cool by the time I get home and not to worry about a big electricity payment that I have to endure. And that was one of the reasons why I went to do solar. If the A/C is going, even though I don’t have a good insulation because I have solar, it balances out
I didn’t have to be there during the installation. By the time I got home, I cannot really tell that they were at home at all. And then everything was up and all we had to do was wait for the city to get their approval. Once they were approved, all we had to do was turn it on and Ryan was always there. I had a problem opening the panel, but he came and opened it for me and turned it on. It could let you enjoy your summer and not be stingy about electricity. You could leave the lights on and don’t have to turn off the light to save on electricity. I could also leave the TV on for my dogs.

A few years ago I worked for my friend and when it was done, I looked on to see what's happening and then I decided to get Sunrun. That was around 2012 when I heard about the solar. Then I saw my neighbor took them. Then two of my friends, one relative and one friend, took it as well. I get the results on their views and I decided to take the solar myself. I'd save some money and lessen the stress on the environment. Everything was done promptly, on time and very professionally. Everyone was on their toes and everything was just rolling.
My wife was telling me something about the issues with the billing. One month, instead of 83, it came back as 140 something. So I told her to pick up the phone and call up. Also, I'm going to call Matt, the field guy from this area, if they can give me more panels because I'm only getting 45% of my electricity from the solar. If you're using less than 6,000 kilowatts per year, you will get 100% solar energy from Sunrun. I'm using 9,000 and over and I only could get 50%. I was standing in front of my house the other day and I was pressing Matt to give me more panels. I need more than 50. I wanted 100 because my house uses too much electricity when the year is up.
Matt said according to the guys who are in charge of that, they install this only on one side of my roof. I said okay. They haven't done a survey. So, I was standing in front my yard, I went to pick up the kids two o'clock in the afternoon, the sun was so bright and the sun was beating down on the other half of the roof that had no solar. My house is crowded and people are home all day. Electricity is being used 24/7. The heat is on, everything is on. But I recommend Sunrun based on the service. Hands down to anybody.

I decided to look into going solar to save money mostly and decided to go with Sunrun. The only other company that was doing a lease the way Sunrun is doing has a pricing that was five cents per-kilowatt-hour higher than them. Sunrun's enrolment process had been effortless and painless. Their customer service reps are always friendly and helpful. Since installing solar, I love getting my energy bill from Eversource now. He just let the whole thing drop like it wasn't going to happen. He also said that Sunrun doesn't work with the 1% financing anymore. I called them back and told them that I'd pay cash for this thing and that I wanted them by the end of the year. Then it worked and it kicked in. Also, the guys in Harford were great. They stayed right on it. Once it got out of the sales' hands and the thing went into go, it was fabulous. The installation guys were fabulous as well. Everything went smoothly. I looked into solar energy services to lower our bill and chose Sunrun because the salesman went out of his way to explain everything in detail to us. We had a good experience enrolling with them. The total interaction was very positive for us especially since we had no idea about solar. Everything ran smoothly but we had a little issue with our solar panels. They put a little shield-like type towards the edge of it and we have high winds where we live so it blew them off. Sunrun came out and corrected it right away by adding extra anchors so that they would stay down. We are extremely satisfied with our decision. We're charged a lot less for our electricity since going solar and that's what we wanted.

My husband was completely opposed to using solar energy and then he got an electric car and our electric bill doubled. And then all of a sudden he was more open to the idea and since it's something I always wanted to do, we went to Costco specifically to see who they chose. Costco has a partnership with Sunrun and we've had really good luck with whoever they select. We narrowed down three companies for estimates because we heard good things from friends and then we ended up choosing Sunrun.
We were very impressed with their sales representative, Chase. He answered our questions really thoroughly and honestly. Even when we were at Costco and we wanted to set up the estimate, they were okay. They did it all right there. They didn't send us home with information then we had to call and wait for a callback. And when we gave the representative at Costco our address, he could see our roof through Google Earth and he showed it to us and also said it is perfect that it faces south. He knew what he was talking about.
The installation was incredible and everything about the company has gone really well. They've really kept us informed on everything. The only thing that was slow was PG&E and Sunrun couldn't really do much about that. We finally got approval from SDG&E online on March 31st and that was a Saturday. Chase kept saying we could call or text him anytime even on weekends. So I texted him on that Saturday because he told us to let him know when we would get the approval and he'd come over and we can turn it on together. And so I did that and I didn't hear back which seems not like him.
I then emailed Tiffany, another rep at the company, and said, "Is he not with the company anymore 'cause he's been so responsive." And she said he's no longer with the company. I wrote back and told them it would have been nice to know that because I gave his name and phone number to friends as a recommendation. So, somebody kind of dropped the ball there. They should have let us know and should have given us a substitute name that we could contact. The only other thing is that Sunrun has a backlog. We bought the battery as well and they installed that and on the 31st when I found out that Chase was no longer with the company, we called the 800 number for the helpdesk and somebody named Grant helped my husband on the phone to turn everything on and make sure it is all working. Grant was terrific and he knew what he was talking about.
The system has been working since then but we don't have access to the app that shows us how many kilowatt hours we are taking in. We know what we're spending because we can see it on our electric meter, but before I even let my husband plug the car in, I want to see how it is working. Grant had said it would take a couple days and then I had contacted Tiffany to find out why we didn't have it yet after a couple days. And she said it would be a couple more days but it had been a week and a half and we still have no access to that and that was really frustrating to both of us. And then I called on the weekend and asked why we still don't have it and the person who answered at the helpdesk had no idea and she had to go ask people. She got back on the phone and said it takes a minimum of five business days which seemed bizarre to me because it has been more than five business days then.
We are in Southern California, and there's not a whole lot of extreme weather near San Diego but there are power outages every so often. We got the battery for that reason and also I don't have any desire to make money off of our electricity but I don't want to pay SDG&E anything. My husband and I both wanted to make sure that we were more in control of our energy use and that we could really monitor it. I would recommend Sunrun overwhelmingly. They really walked us through the whole process. Our representative was extremely responsive. And the way that Tiffany has the automated thing that lets us know that we were at step one, two, and so forth is nice and really effective rather than having a company where you sign everything and then you have to keep calling and asking about this and that. The installers were extremely professional and they really knew what they were doing. So we're happy with everything.

I was quoted a price that I was willing to go with but when I got my bill, it was a completely other price. The initial guy said my bill was going to be $33 a month and it was not going to change. But I came to find out that my bill is $83 and it goes up by $100 every year. If I would've known all that, I wouldn't have done it. I had to keep getting a hold of Sunrun to find out what was going on and it took several months to get it all in place. But once they set up an appointment, they came out and got it taken care of quickly. However, all the equipment that was set up on the side of the house was rough patch. It was sloppy where they did the stucco and they didn't put a pattern. I went out and put some house paint on it to match the house's paint color and it didn't stand out as bad.
Still, my interactions with their customer service were always good. They were very polite and asked if I needed any other questions answered. It had been up and running for two months and so far, it's what they told me it would be. They said my bill would be around $20 but my electric bill is down at about $45. It might be about $20 off on what they said my payments would be for solar. With going solar, I'm not worried about the electric bill all the time. I can run my appliances any time of the day instead of just during the night. It's a lot less stress.

For people who live in the NE... Don't get ripped off by Sunrun's "savings". We took over a lease agreement because the house we bought we fell in love with. The solar panels seemed like a cool idea until we realized they don't save you any money. Here is some real math for you. Our bill from Eversource without solar would be $121.04. Our bill from Eversource with solar is $79.74. Here is where we would be happy with the savings. Our bill from Sunrun currently is $122.45. $79.74 plus $122.45 is $202.19. This is our new electric bill. Doesn't sound like it's saving us anything. Does it? So the previous owner signs up, we take over and get stuck with the scam. You don't get any tax credits unless you buy the panels outright so you miss out on that. Sunrun collects the tax credits on top of your monthly fee which by the way goes up 3% each year.
Now the absolute minimum we can pay Eversource is $19.00. So again even if we received the max credits we still need to pay $19 plus the solar lease which is $122.45. Again that comes out to $141.45. This is still higher than what our electric bill would be without them. By the way this is at year 3 so this minimum payment will just go up each year. How does this save a consumer any money?
Thank you for your feedback, Brian. We are so sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your solar system. Our number one goal is to provide clean energy but also that should include some savings. We were sold a system in 2011 that only handles 58% of my usage. The Sunrun salesman who of course is no longer with the company promised me a package of goods that doesn’t deliver. We were told our system would be more than adequate. I have never earned any energy credit. I have a SCE yearly bill of 1067.00. Dividing that up for 12 months and figure in my monthly $130-170 Sunrun bill and I’m still paying $200-300 a month! I’ve inquired, asked and argued with Sunrun to expand my system. All I got from a senior Sunrun manager was “we’ve never done that before” and I was told I would have to have a second system. That’s just ridiculous! I’m trapped in a contract with no avenues for solution. Clearly in my opinion they’re putting the $ before customer satisfaction.
If I had the money, I’d hire an attorney. SUNRUN IS THE WORST! I remember old Ed Asner promoting Sunrun. And I took him for his word. My big mistake! You don’t hear from him anymore! Hmmm! All I would like is to expand the existing system. Not a whole lot, just to allow me to earn energy credits as I was told I would. There’s nothing new added to my house. No room additions. No pools. It’s like I was promised a Cadillac but when they delivered, it had a VW motor in it. So am I forced to buy another one to make it right? Steer clear of Sunrun-there’s plenty of other solar competition. Oh and Sunrun won’t make it right. They never answered my customer survey. They won’t do anything to satisfy unless they make money. Come to think of it, I still have the news channel consumer advocates phone number.

Unfortunately, I signed a transfer agreement to take over the lease for Sunrun panels that were installed by the previous owners of the home I recently purchased. Little did I know, and nowhere does it say, that a dangerous amount of snow can avalanche off the panels and damage whatever is below. These are leased panels, not owned, but somehow I have to pay for some Snow Guard product that purportedly will protect my property and anyone walking below my roof in the snowy winter months. The snow recently, violently fell off the panels and ripped my side door awning off the house, which had been securely attached. At least it wasn't a person under it when it happened. Sunrun says they are not responsible, will not fix the problem but will send a quote so I can pay for "Snow Guards" that could cost in the 2K range or more. I wonder if they might be affiliated with this company that want to refer me to.
My homeowner's insurance would cover the awning repair, but not the Snow Guard fix, and since the lease is in force I cannot get rid of these dangerous panels for something like 20 years. Do not get this product if you live in region that has snow unless you want to invest an additional several thousand on these Snow Guards, which, who knows, may not even work. This information should be disclosed within the lease and/or transfer of lease agreements.
Additionally, it took three phones calls and at least several hours of my time to get the automatic billing to go through correctly, which based on the other reviews here, has not been resolved. They kept telling me the routing number was wrong or I had input something wrong, which was not the case. There is/was something wrong on their end as far as setting up automatic payments from bank accounts. But of course, you the consumer has to deal with the problem, calling over and over again. It was finally fixed after several months of billing, but anyone thinking of getting these, esp. in the Northeast, should think again and again and try to find a product that doesn't leave your person and property vulnerable or a company that will at least take responsibility for fixing what I would describe as a design flaw.

Sunrun installed our solar panels and we pay them per kilowatt. We are paying much more than we would have paid had we stayed with PG & E. They installed too many panels and so we generate too much power. We must pay for the power generated whether we use it or not. When I complained to Sunrun, they told me to “use more electricity.” The point of solar is to help our environment, not use more power just to use it up. If I run the air conditioner more just to use up excess power, that is bad for the environment. We had no way of knowing that the number of panels they installed was too many. How would an average homeowner know that. I would never recommend this company. What you don’t know will hurt you when dealing with Sunrun!

I tried to pay my latest bill with a credit card. I went through all the steps but it said there was a problem (not with my card, since it's used elsewhere and I pay it in full each month). Then I tried to pay with my checking account as an ACH transaction - the other alternative. I put in my routing number, account number - can't do it, their system says. Seems like they have a 20th century product with a website designed in 1960. So apparently I can only pay if I call them each month, manage to reach anybody, and then give that person my personal financial info. If I'd known this before, I never would have dealt with Sunrun in any capacity.

I was looking for solar energy services for the battery back up and then I decided to enroll with Sunrun. They let me lease the system with the batteries while the other guys wouldn't let me do that. Also, my lease payment is almost the same as what I was paying for my electrical but I got solar and the batteries included. I have two Brightbox batteries for off-grid usage. I've got a couple of issues with the system but the Sunrun reps came out quickly both times and resolved them. I'm very satisfied and I've recommended Sunrun to people.

APS was going to have an 8% rate increase and that brought me over the edge. I was paying so much so I decided to go solar. I talked to Sunrun one day and then had them send a rep. The woman that I spoke with was very informative, very nice and professional. The enrollment process went smooth and it was a good experience. The installation team didn’t seem to know how much the output would be from their product, but they were good guys. They went up on the roof, tied themselves off, did all the safety measures, and put it up in record time. They stayed with it until they were done.
Right now, going solar knocked my bill down by $80 a month. I was paying $300 a month, and last month, I paid Sunrun $101. And that is only three months into their system. The days are longer here in Arizona and our earth is changing positions in its orbit and we’ll get more direct sunlight. So, I hope my output becomes higher. My expectations was that it was going to bring the cost down. I have recommended Sunrun to others. I still got their sign in the yard and I got a neighbor across the street that’s interested, but he is waiting to see what it does for me this summer. So far, everything has been great with Sunrun. Everybody has been nice and cordial, and their system seems to be working as prescribed.

I had somebody come to me for another solar program and when I read their documents, I opposed the guy about it and he lied to me. I didn't feel comfortable with that. When I spoke with someone from Sunrun, I told the guy not to lie to me and he was nice about it. He was also right about everything. Everything was legit and I liked that. They offered me a good deal and enrolling with them was very fast. I used to pay a lot of money for a month but now, I pay very little. I'm saving about $40 a month so it has been really good. I'm very satisfied going with solar. I already spoke to my brother-in-law about it and he might be contacting Sunrun.

I've moved here 12 years ago and it was a surprise there wasn't solar energy out here. So, when the area started having solar companies set up, I was interested installing up on here. Sunrun's representative was the first one that had made direct contact with me. The representative from Sunrun, Isaac, came to the house one day, he found me in the yard and started talking to me. He made an appointment with me and then he came back with all the materials and spent a couple of hours going over it with me. It sounded like it would work out economically for me. Eventually, we ended up setting up an appointment so they could check out the roof and see what kind of pattern of the solar panels that they were going to install.
Sunrun had come up with a design and they went over that with me. The installation was set up and their crew came and did it. The only bit of a delay was that they had to work with the city to make sure that the wiring was set up correctly. But they got that sorted out. Then they got it transferred it over from Southern California Edison. It took a couple of months to get that all worked out.
We had set the system up and my monthly bill would be about the same as what I've been paying already. As the representative explained, Southern California Edison rates would be continuing to climb where I would be locked in for a 20-year period so that made some sense. We still have the small monthly payment from Edison but that wasn't a big problem and it was nice to be locked in. The solar panel was a lease rental agreement and I paid that off. As it turned out I was refinancing my main home mortgage last Fall. And part of the process was paying off other loans that I had so now I own the panels.
Sunrun sent me a check after the first year and explained that they had discovered that they hadn't quite installed enough panels to cover all of my energy needs. So, they sent me a check to cover the difference in `what the projected electric costs were going to be. And sure enough, a few weeks ago, I got a bill from Edison for almost $150 saying that I owe them because the Sunrun's system didn't produce enough energy and Sunrun covered that cost.
I've talked to a couple of neighbors about Sunrun and one of them had some concerns because they have one of those flat foam roofs and they weren't sure that the solar panels would work well on that sort of situation. I have a tile roof so having the solar panels wasn't a problem. Going solar with Sunrun was of nice, especially now that they're paid off. But they have a monthly bill and even when I did have the monthly bill it was what I've been paying anyway. The idea that I was being more ecologically responsible and cutting my carbon imprint was good. I'd tell my friends that Sunrun certainly worth checking into.
We are so grateful for your feedback, Kyle! We certainly focus on your experience by maintaining competency, and professionalism all throughout. So glad you're a part of our Sunrun family! Thanks for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

We have been a solar customer for years now. I had a high utility bill and I got a lot of people living in my house and I was looking for some responsible, cost-effective alternatives. Sunrun came to the house and had a proposal and walked me through and we went from there. Initially, I had a gruesome experience because of PG&E's net metering process. So I had to come see them how they interpret the net metering and how to pay ahead if I didn't want to have a big bill at the end of the true lock period.
It was a bit of a learning curb but solar has an impact as far as cost-efficiency. In addition, they're monitoring and they are very good at getting in touch immediately if there's an issue. Like when I accidentally shut the system down they called. Overall, going solar is good if you have a lot of people living in your house. But if you're a single person and you're not home a lot I wouldn't recommend it, unless you can buy the equipment outright or lease it. There's an additional charge per month. Since I spread that cost over with two retired people who live with me, and who are a constantly running TVs and doing laundry and microwave and the whole get-go it becomes more affordable.

However, no one told me anything about maintenance, whether or not the panels need to be cleaned after almost five years of being on the roof. Nevertheless, going solar has saved me money.

We did some research at Sunrun New York Stock Exchange company. That was publicly traded and they have a significant investment in the long-term. We also looked into another company, Renovo, and I compared the two. I like Sunrun’s programs and their longevity profile better so we went with Sunrun. We bought the solar energy services and invested last year. We’re spending more time in Rancho Mirage, California because my wife’s parents are in their 90s and they need a help. Our electric bill is running $600 a month or more. After a while, we became familiar with the pattern that the utilities are going through periodically about every two years. They have to make infrastructure improvements or maintenance so we’ve made a $25K investment in one home and that’s breakeven about 7-7.5 years. After that, the remaining 20 years at least is so-called free and clear.
All the way through, from the sales installation to the site survey guys, they did a fine job. The whole process was talked through and thought-out very well, easy to follow, and systematic, but nobody knew the system and what the expectations will be, except that they had the parameters about our entire savings is going to fall between X and X. It was a good learning experience after it was installed.
However, nobody explained that to us how to find out how many kilowatts it’s pulling by looking at the equipment. Also, the Sunrun salesman did a fine job but lacked technical knowledge. He knew how it works but there was a lack of specifics relative to how we’re going to get information from it, details on timing, and details on the process going forward. He was not the technical guy and we had to get somebody else. I can do it online and I get the information from the Sunrun website, but I can’t go out in the garage and look at the panel and understand how to press the button to find out how it was operating. The other thing that they didn’t do was the installation. We had to put a new panel in and nobody labeled it. So now, if I want to know which breaker the refrigerator is out, I got to go out and try to get that. They did some labeling but it’s still unclear.
Other than that, it was a very pleasant experience. The whole thing was very well-orchestrated and done. They got different coordinators’ labels. In terms of the guy handling the installation, somebody else coordinates the start-up and going through all the premise and they move you from individual to individual. It’s fine and I know how it works.
The bill of the electricity has gone down because we used to pay $600 a month, and now we’re paying $30. Our breakeven is about 7 to 7.5 years on our investment and the next 13 years would be free. We leased the solar panel. We have two homes that we have Sunrun on and we put the Brightbox battery on one because we have a disabled brother-in-law and he has to have his room temperatures at a certain degree of coolness. If there’s a power outage, then we could not have a benefit of a battery if we didn’t have that.
We’re living in their Palm Spring California and it gets hot out here. We bought a portable generator to keep the thing running but it broke down. Last month, they notified they’re going to have infrastructure repair or improvements in the area so then, we lost power for 6-7-8 hours. We were able to hook up his air conditioning unit system in his area to the Sunrun battery and we did out of medical necessity. It’s a big help. It was a good experience with Sunrun and it was a good worthwhile idea.

Our house was remodeled and we’re up to 2600 square feet, single-story. Last year our highest electric bill was $556 per month. So we decided to possibly go with solar. From everything that I could find out, Sunrun has been in business for 17 years and that goes back to almost the beginning of everything. If they have made it for 17 years, they must be pretty well established. I contacted them and they came out. Travis was our coordinator and salesman, and if it hadn’t been for him, I wouldn’t be with Sunrun. He and I were on very good speaking terms. He knew when I was unhappy and he apologized time and time again that the process took so long. I don’t think he’ll forget me for a while because although I didn’t get nasty with him, I had stuck to my guns came hell or high water.
In the beginning, my circuit breaker panel had to be moved. The Arizona room had been enclosed and the circuit breaker panel was on the west side. Both areas could still be enclosed and if that was done then the meter would be put inside the house which is a no-no. Sunrun said we were going to have to move the panel but I said no. They were selling the product and if that was to be an upgrade, they would be the ones to do it. Also, they sent a building plan, coming across my next door neighbor’s backyard to where the panels would be and I told them they couldn't do that. They said they would get my neighbor’s permission but I said no. I told them to go 15 feet to the east, make a 90-degree and come straight into where the panels were going to be. I told them that that was the way they were going to do it or I was going someplace else. I won and there was no argument whatsoever.
But aside from that, I also wasn’t happy with the way the trench was open for eight weeks. I told Sunrun that if somebody fell in that trench they would get sued. I was going to sue them too for that open trench. It was four feet deep and they should have had at least a ribbon marking it. It was never done but fortunately for them, nothing happened. And in the end, I was happy with the construction. When they came out to put the new panel on, everything worked and the guys that changed the electrical over were sharp.
I also didn’t know whether to rent or purchase. But in the end, I put 38 panels and elected to buy everything outright. I’m 80 years old and my wife is 70-something. The house is paid for and if something happens to me, which will likely be before her, she wouldn’t have $20 a month electric fees. 20 years from now, she's not going to care and I know I won't either. The process started in April and finally in October, they turned the inverters on. My first bill was $22 and it was great, going from $556 to $22. But the next bill was $66 and the latest one was $88.
I have checked the inverters and all of my panels. My house faces north and south. There is one set of panels on the east end, on the west end and on the south side. Everything is exposed, other than when the sun goes down, and the inverters have been putting out almost identical kilowatts no matter what time of the day I look at it. They’re close within reason so that tells me that all the panels are working.
I also talked to Eddie, my next-door neighbor who was on four months before I was. I asked him what he thought of his solar output and he wasn’t happy either. His is the same way and he had a lot less panels and a lot smaller house. I called Sunrun and I told them I was not happy with the system. But the rep said we’ve only been on for three months and we didn’t have any extra built up. She said we’ve used all that we had in the bank and until it gets more daylight, we won’t build it back up and the bill won’t drop. Knowing only a little about it, I had to buy her explanation.

I’d been looking at solar for a long time now and Sunrun was one of the outfits that answered my inquiries. The rep who came was excellent. He was better than anybody who had come before because everybody else just wanted my money. The three installers they sent all the way from Fresno were excellent. In one day, they had the stuff up on the roof. They cleaned up after everything that they did and it was a very neat installation. Also, anybody that I called could give me an answer that day, what they were going to do, how they were going to do it and when they were going to do it. They came back a week later because the county said, "These old roofs don’t have enough in them, so go up and put some stuff on the rafters.” They crawled in the attic and did their stuff.
The only thing that stalled them was getting PG&E to say “Turn it on.” They had to take their time to see that everything was set up as it should, and I had to wait for three weeks. I kept calling PG&E and asking them “How is it coming? What are they doing?" They had to send a guy out here to show me how to operate it, but I already knew how. I had already looked at the system and saw what had to be turned on, what had to be turned off and how to do it because I’m no dummy at this stuff. The county was also a bit slow in getting the permits.
Right now, the system is producing. I could use another three panels, but that would overproduce what’s coming up because I have a metering deal of about $457 if I paid it off now. We haven’t had that good weather and before, at this time of the year, my electricity bill was sitting somewhere around $600 a month. That’s why solar is up here. Now, I have to pay Sunrun $167.95 a month, plus $10 to PG&E for the service and that's it. Then, what I don’t produce, PG&E has to produce. They’re having to produce a little bit more than I’m giving back to them right now but when spring and summer come and we get more sunlight, I’m sure to go the other direction.
I also found out that if I got ready to sell this house, people would have three options. One, they can assume the deal that I have with Sunrun and keep $167.95 a month plus the 3.5 percent increase each year for the length of the 20 years that I have a contract with them. Two, they can pay me the difference and that’s about $30,000 right now to buy the whole thing and then own it outright. Three, they can say “No, I don’t want it” and Sunrun will come and take it off.

A person came and talked to me about the program and what it offered and the benefits from that. She set up an appointment. And when all the equipment came in, they sent somebody out and had all the inspections on the roof. After that, they put the panels in. The only problem was that they had me turn the system on after PG&E approved that. I did but I didn’t know whether I did it properly or not because it didn’t seem like it was right. I called a couple of times because they kept saying, “You have to do this. You have to do that.” I did all that but there was a glitch in the service box.
It was only a three-step process, but it would be better served if they came out and made sure that it was up and running and if they would’ve known that the job was complete and the system was okay and functioning, instead of leaving it for the consumer to do. Nonetheless, I really like the experience of going solar. I was telling my secretary that my bill last month was $9 and my bill for PG&E was $4 this month, and the rest was all generated through solar. All I do is pay the monthly bill for Sunrun and overall, it’s great savings for me. Now, I have a little more money in my pocket. I would recommend somebody to Sunrun. We signed up with Sunrun and the enrollment process was easy, and their guy had all the paperwork, too. They were way behind on their billing and then they were going to send us a bill for $900 which didn’t sound right. It was supposed to be $142 a month, and so my wife called and talked to somebody out there. They had made a mistake on their part, so they rectified everything with no problem. Sunrun really cut our electric bill way down because it used to be $200 to $300 and it’s now down to $120. And that’s having the heaters and our water tank running, so it has been very good. We looked into solar energy for the concept of providing a better source of electricity and Sunrun’s enrollment process was easy. They were easy to talk to and they provided clear information. However, our interaction with their customer service was terrible. We had initial solar put on the house and everything went fine. We came back a couple of years later and they said there was another better program that we could add to our system. It was a great deal. But during the installation, the installers damaged one of our vehicles and getting through the process of having that taken care of was a nightmare.
They didn’t want to write us a check for our deductible. They insisted that we take Visa cards as if we were a referral. Then when our taxes were due, they sent us a 1099 for the cards and I saw no reason for me to have to pay taxes on money that I spent out of my pocket. There were several unkind emails, back and forth about whose responsibility it really was and the fact that whoever we complained to initially didn’t take it to their supervisor and didn’t solve the problem. They just swept it under the carpet and that was disturbing.
Plus now, we have two accounts and one is automatic pay which is okay because it’s the same number every month. But the other account varies and we wanted to look at our invoice every month to make sure we are paying what we’re invoiced for. But for about six months, they couldn’t straighten out the two accounts and so I couldn’t log on to see my invoices.
I complained last month with them because they stopped sending the PDF of the invoice. That would have been fine but it was not available on my login account either. That made it frustrating when I was trying to communicate with my wife which bills and how much she was supposed to pay. Generally, I would print the invoice and give it to her. Right now though, everything has been resolved and we’re back on track.
We had gone from all PG&E to having one system on solar which reduced our PG&E bill. At summertime, the bill was less than it would have been and in the wintertime, it was about equal. Throughout the year there was about $30 savings. Now with the second system, we’re about at net zero with PG&E. With the constant $117 a month from the second system, about $80 in the wintertime and $200 in the summertime, we’re seeing that the bill in totality over the year is less than what it would’ve been with PG&E so we have seen savings too.

All the houses in our neighborhood are electric so our bill was high and didn't seem to be going down. We tracked it for a while and it kept going up every year. With newer PG&E, which is more expensive, instead of SMUD, we needed a resident solar for a while. I'd like to turn the heater up a notch or two and if it's summertime, I'd like to run the air conditioner a little bit longer. So I'd like to do a few things but we're trying to conserve on electricity. But if we go solar, I don't have to be thrifty. So, we went that way.
When we were at Costco, Sunrun had a vendor who was trying to find people up for appraisals and estimates for their solar. We interviewed a few other companies and after comparing people back and forth, we went with Sunrun. Costco is selective about the vendors that they put in there and Sunrun has to apply every year. For four years in a row, Sunrun has been a vendor at Costco and that said something right there. Also, Sunrun has a good warranty program, which is 20 years on the product and 10 years on the penetration of our pads or the racks going to our roof stuff.
Enrolling with Sunrun was very good and their customer service has been great. We had one set of people come out to do a site survey to check out the area and see if it was applicable. Then, we had another group come up on the roof, in the attic, to see if it would hold the support in bringing the panels. Later, another group came out and did the installation. One group came out and did the racks to put the panels on. The next day, another group came out to put the panels on, and another guy did electrical. Sunrun is big enough so they can have enough people to spread the workaround, which is good.
We have the Sunrun LG battery. The salesman said that we had options out there and the battery would cost more if we bought it outright but in the long run, it's more valuable instead of getting 27 panels to supply the energy to my house. We would get away with 23 panels since the panels produce energy and they would store in the battery. We could use that battery to supplement power through the evening when the sun goes down without relying on PG&E's power. Also, Sunrun dedicates four of our circuits to back up. We have electricity supplied on our circuits, which we have in the kitchen to run the refrigerator, one in the garage to run our freezer, one in the front room, and one in the bedroom. Those four circuits would be supplied with power in the event of a blackout for extended period of time.
Naturally, we're not producing electricity at night time when the sun's not out. But if we produce 100 percent of power during the day and we only use 60 percent of it, we have 40 percent as a backup that PG&E has. We loan it to them, and when we need it, we get it back at a low cost or almost free since we gave them the surplus. Just like putting it in the bank. We don't use energy as much as the solar panels produce, so we're able to get a kickback on the power. On the other hand, people who don't have a battery will have a True-Up, which means at the end of the day they didn't produce enough electricity and would owe PG&E money for the energy they used, which their solar did not produce.
But during the winter time when it's cloudy and rainy, we're not producing nearly as much energy as we would be on a bright, sunny day. It also depends on how our house sits in relationship to the sun to get the optimum resources. If we have a North exposure, we're not going to produce as much power. But if we're producing more than we're using, we get that back later. It's clean energy and we're not relying on fossil fuels so that has impacted us quite a bit and I'm excited about that. Going with Sunrun is a financial thing, too. It takes six to seven years to pay the panels off, but in the long run, we won't have a bill after that. The due would be a minimal amount.
Thanks for sharing your story, Dave. Our drive is to make solar hassle-free by being attentive and focusing on each individual customer's experience! I paid my bill of $122.69 on Feb. 1, 2018 to Sunrun. I received my bill for March the other day and it said I owed them for Feb. and March, I then looked at my bank statement for Feb. and on Feb. 1, 2018 Sunrun took $122.69 out of my bank account. Called Sunrun to explain this to them and was told they didn't have anything to show that I paid Feb. bill and that I had to fax a copy of my bank statement to them to prove they took the money out and that they would call me back to let me know they received my fax. I got off the phone and immediately sent them a copy of my bank statement to prove they took my Feb. payment out of my account in fact I fax it twice. Never received a call back from Sunrun and it hasn't been fixed yet. They also tried to explain to me that they sent out two bills to a lot of their customers in January for Feb. bills but that doesn't explain where the $122.69 went that they took from my bank.

I was researching getting solar for a couple of years because my light bill was expensive during summer. I wanted something cheaper and more efficient. Sunrun was recommended to us by a friend and when I spoke to Andrew, the rep who helped me, he totally convinced me. He gave me all the information I needed and made me feel reassured. Then I signed up and the enrollment went smoothly. Now I have a flat rate of $140 a month which is better than $400 or $500 in the summertime each month.
Other people waited for months before they got their systems but I got mine real quick. From when I signed up, the installation was not even a month away and they did a good job which didn't take too long as well. They were efficient and they informed me of everything they were going to do. I've been recommending Sunrun a lot to other people and Andrew tried to contact them or they contacted Sunrun. One of my friends bought a brand new house so they were not ready yet. They haven't lived in it long enough to find out that it's going to cost them an arm and a leg living in a two-story house without solar but they'll find out. And there are people who were still waiting and wondering what they are going to do.

A rep told me about Sunrun and I felt that he had experience, he had been around long and I trusted him so we enrolled with Sunrun and it was easy. I’ve only had it a couple of months and so far I feel positive about it. It’s hard to judge my electric bill in the winter because it’s lower but it has been much lower so it’s a good thing that I did it. They seemed very professional. I have also recommended them before.

Sunrun has very friendly, truthful and knowledgeable staff and when I enrolled, the process was easy. The salesperson I dealt with was very honest and down to earth. He was acting more like your next door neighbour instead of a pushy salesperson. And it made all the difference to me. I had somebody come to my house from SolarCity, the Tesla-owned company, and they were a lot more your typical salesperson. I backed off at the last minute with them just because I felt that way. They called me several times after I told them not to contact me until my wife got back in three months, from going out of the country. I had already signed up with Sunrun by then.
Since the installation, my bill has dropped. And I’m optimistic that it’s going to be really good when summer gets here. It’s going to outperform what I was promised. I would highly recommend Sunrun. They're much easier to deal with, and their sales rep was very knowledgeable and honest about the service. He wasn’t trying to push one leasing over selling and he went over the pros and the cons of each.

I have solar about 6 years. The cost goes up every year. I am now paying about 3 to 4 cents per KWH more than I am paying utility. I complained 2 years ago and they had me send in a year's worth of bills. They then MATCHED the utility rate (not beat). I complained again recently and they told me again to send in a year's worth of bills. I asked what the solution would be since all the ads indicate that I could save a fortune. They would not give me an answer. Their solution seems to be to send in my bills every year and they MIGHT MATCH the utility rate. That is NOT what I signed up for, and at this rate I expect to be paying Sunrun 3 to 4 times the rate I will be paying utility by the end of the contract.
Thank you for your feedback, Stuart. We are so sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your solar system. I had high energy bills. When I first enrolled with Sunrun, they wanted me to take a loan from GreenSky financing. First I was told to go ahead and sign up so they could get the ball rolling. I decided I didn't want to take it and I figured out another way to do it. We went back and forth for a while and they always seemed to be a little behind schedule on something. But other than that, they came out and they finally installed the panels and they made the complete installation with the first of the year. But they wanted to give me paperwork that stated that it started after the next year. I refused and told them I needed it for my taxes for last year. I brought in documents to prove that I was online and started before the next coming year. We got that straightened out.
After everything got on the roof, there was a large humming noise on my roof and it's still there to this day. I recently called and complained about it again. The first couple of times, they were sorry but told me that they didn't guarantee excessive noise. I finally ran into somebody that was pretty decent and he went out of his way to fix our SolarEdge, the wireless monitor that's in the house. I had a panel on the roof that was broken and I didn't know it and he troubleshot that. He went on the roof, he tightened that down again and it lowered the noise down. But I still notice that when the sun starts to rise in the morning, a large buzzing noise starts. I'm hoping they didn't give me lower grade inverters. They said the panels and everything were good for 25 years. In the middle of the project, their rep said that he had to re-order parts so I hope he didn't go get second-class parts and throw them out there.
Last month, their guy went up there and inspected the panels for me. He was very nice and went out of his way to deliver and install the new wireless monitor for me. I wasn't even home. My wife opened the door, he came in the house and hooked it up. I'm in hopes that this thing will last 25 years or more. I might have been wiser to lease it because if anything breaks, they would come right out. The reason I went with Sunrun is that I work for Costco and they sponsor Sunrun. I also know that Costco is not going to allow any vendor into their store that isn't going to be answerable to them and would damage their reputation. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in the warehouse because people pay to shop there and they pay $120 for a one-year membership. Costco's got a lot of credibility there.
I got back a $700 rebate from Costco for using Sunrun and I got back a good tax rebate so it pretty much cut the total cost of the installation and everything else in half. As far as my money's worth, I couldn't be better. And I retired last year so my bill went from a couple of hundred to $250 during the winter down to $10 a month. Now I get gas bills during the winter and $70 is the highest one I've gotten so far. I'm on very limited income now and all my cash flow didn't work like I thought in retirement, but it helps not to have a PG&E bill that isn't palatable. Going with Sunrun has impacted me financially and it's the environmentally correct thing to do.
I got some other members who came in to Costco and they asked me why I went with Sunrun because they had a very low rating. But I couldn't see it. The only problem was I had to call up and talk to them several times to get them to quit dragging their feet to get the installation done and to return my calls. And they got it done in a timeframe they said they would. It's been two years now. I would recommend Sunrun. I'm sending people to Costco and introducing them to buying bulk. The discounts are over there, plus the benefits of it is all win-win. Can't make an enemy doing that.
We are so grateful for your feedback, Steve! We certainly focus on your experience by maintaining competency, and professionalism all throughout. So glad you're a part of our Sunrun family! Thanks for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

My husband set us up for a representative from Sunrun to come to our home and explain how solar panels work and purely to gain information. This salesman worked so fast and within an hour he had my husband signing paperwork locking him into a 20-year contract. Of course, I was skeptical about the whole thing so I did some research and read some reviews (Thank God!) and took some of my concerns to our salesperson, David. I was concerned with the fact that they were only offering us 50% solar energy and the other 50% would be through the electric company that they partner with (Think Energy; which was charging us almost double per k/w as what we are currently paying). Once I brought this particular concern to David he got extremely flustered, started spewing and repeating all the bull he had already told me and then offered to take us to 80% after I wouldn't budge (which is the highest he said they are allowed to offer).
Why wouldn't he have offered that from the beginning?? Because the whole thing is a scam for them to make money. We decided to stick with it anyways but we changed our minds and wanted to purchase the panels... He literally told us he WOULD NOT sell them to us because they wouldn't be able to claim the panels on their taxes and tried yet again to set us up with a lease. He also told us that nothing was finalized for 10 days after signing, yet Think Energy was contacting us literally the next day trying to switch our utilities over and telling us to cancel our current electric coverage and that was a completely different struggle trying to get that canceled once we backed out. We were lied to and manipulated multiple times by this salesperson, I'm so thankful we backed out in time. All the backhanded responses that Sunrun representatives are writing on these reviews is complete **.
They always blame the customer saying "You must be using more electricity than before the panels" when most of these people can prove that isn't the case, which is probably why there are hundreds of people working with their lawyers to sue and void their contracts. Their equipment is faulty, stops working, and it takes months to get them to do anything about repairs or problems. I had multiple calls, voicemails, and questions go unanswered through this process and I will make sure that none of my family or friends is pulled into this scam, there are plenty of other legit solar companies who offer better rates for better service. Sunrun, don't bother to respond to this or to "send me a message from a specialist to further address my concerns". I'm simply not interested in any more lies or excuses. It will go unread and unanswered.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Stacie. We are sorry to hear about your experience. We can certainly sympathize with your situation. A specialist has reached out to you in a direct message regarding your concerns.

Sunrun has been used in the past by a lot of people in my neighborhood. Also, air conditioning is very expensive here in Arizona that's why I looked into solar energy services. I made a phone call to Sunrun and then I was contacted by them. Everything was through email except for a couple of phone calls with the salesperson who went over a quote at Sunrun and has put together some different options. The process was very easy and painless. I got two other bids from other companies but Sunrun had a better cost and I like the salesperson and the different options that he was able to present.
After the installation, I called the customer service to ask some questions about the website, and I got my questions answered. There was never a service problem, and I am very much satisfied with the solar. The system now is producing more than it did in the past. It would take a few weeks to make that all happen. Also, I got our first bill from APS and tried to compare it. It's a little tough in the winter because of the least payment through Sunrun and then what APS charges for the connection fee. I paid a little more for my first winter month and I was expecting that but I’m hoping that throughout the year, especially when summer gets here, then that’s where I’ll start to see my savings.
Since having a solar with Sunrun, I feel like I'm doing good for the environment and I like being my own energy company. I have already recommended Sunrun to a couple of people, and I told them how easy it was, and that the pricing is better than the other companies that I have looked into through the customer service. I went to work and when I came home, everything was finished already. They were friendly, honest, and open. They were really good people who had no hidden agenda.
Their reps called me several times to welcome me and to let me know that they were there for me. The calculation was to pay what I’m paying right now but with no increase over the next 20 years, which is what I was looking for. It’s working out and so far, so good. I’m still paying almost the same amount as I was paying before and there won’t be any increase. I'm 100% satisfied with my decision of going solar. I've recommended Sunrun to several friends already. I was talking to my neighbors who had solar systems on top of their houses and they assured me that they were doing very well with it, they were really happy with the service they got, and they were saving some money. So when the representative from Sunrun came, I signed up. Their sales side was very legit and the rep was very explicit and good at it. And the guys that installed the panels on the roof did a very nice and quick job.
Then, Sunrun made a terrible mistake when they contacted the local authorities to have the inspection done. I'm in the city limits of Manchester and they contacted the county, which has no say in it. So when everything was set, I couldn't get the power company to get the inspection done because it was placed with the wrong authority. That took two weeks to get straightened out and it was already mid-November when I had all the inspectors come around and tell me that I could go on and get the system turned on.
Other than that, I am extremely unhappy with my experience with Sunrun because my power bill is considerably higher than what it used to be and I don't know why since there's nobody else living in the house. If anything, it should be less. I talked to one of their representatives and he claimed I had some terrible rainy weather and there was no sunshine, so, therefore, the system didn't work that well. If that was the case, it's a very poor design because I didn't have it put up there in order to pay more. I put up the system to save money. Also, I had a huge oak tree in the backyard. It was about 80 feet tall which gave me a considerable amount of shade during the summer months and saved on my air conditioning. It cost me almost $2,000 to have that tree removed and now that I'm out of a lot of money, I'm saving absolutely nothing. In fact, I'll be paying more come summer time with a lot of sun and a lot of heat and a lot more air conditioner running.

SunLux did all the paperwork so everything went smoothly. The process was exceptionally easy. The only difficulty we’ve had was when we were trying to sign up for automatic payments and we had trouble with Sunrun’s website. It just wasn’t working. Initially, we signed up for the automatic payments through SunLux when we did the contract for Sunrun and, evidently, it never got initiated. I went online several times trying to do it without success. I called Sunrun and talked to someone a couple of times trying to set it up. This last week, I was a little upset. I had paid three months in advance and I got charged because we weren’t enrolled. We finally got it straightened out but whoever did their website as far as the billing and accounts, it is not very good.
Since the installation, all I do was get their hookup thing and it was at $10 a month so I don’t know what the usage has been compared to before. As far as putting in the panels, the paperwork, permits and going through the HOA, that all went very smoothly. To me, it was all done top-notch. I’ve talked to some neighbors who appeared to be interested and gave them information to show us as a referral.

My son in San Diego was having Sunrun installed at his house and referred them to me. I always had a desire to do solar but I always thought my energy bills weren't that high that I didn't think it was cost-effective so I just barely looked into the solar services years ago. Since then, the prices have gone down. Sunrun had a good reputation and they matched the price that I was already paying for Edison so I figured it was good to go solar.
The guy that came out and took all the information and got it started was fantastic and always kept in the loop even though there was a handoff to the head office. He still cut in whenever I needed him. The engineers came out with the little different locations for the electrical component and they were really easy to work with. One of them moved it around and we even found a better spot in the garage at the last minute when the installers were there. They were willing to make the switch and do everything. They were customer friendly and they worked fast. I got all the permits that I required and everything was great.
The system got installed quickly and the installers were very professional. I was concerned about where they put the cable as I didn't want it showing too much. They went the extra effort to run it through the attic and have it minimized and they even painted it on the outside, I provided the paint. That was a great experience.
We also got a Brightbox battery, a backup battery. They gave us four circuits that we could utilize. My wife is on a machine for sleep apnea at night and it's critical. We wanted the ability to keep that running. On top of that, it's also nice to not worry about stuff in the freezer and the refrigerator. The week after the system was installed it, we had a 12-hour outage and that was before we were paying anything on it. Edison allows it to be turned on ahead of the switchover so even though we were still considered on Edison, we were utilizing the panels. We weren't officially getting to have our certification from Edison yet but the battery kicked in and had the circuits protected.
The power went off for a split second then it kicked right on so my refrigerator was never turned off. The outage was during the night and my wife slept fine with the CPAP machine going. Later, I ran an extension cord to the outlets that were live and could run the TV and everything else. We were not affected at all yet our whole neighborhood was down. The Brightbox is costing me $200 a year extra to have it but it's worth it especially for my wife.

I like the idea of solar energy services. In general going slightly green is important and we know that is the way we are going. Before I even started looking at solar products for my house I invested in a few solar companies through E-Trade. So one of them was Sunrun. And then once I made the connection through this referral that it was indeed the same company it was a no-brainer. I’m also an investor, so why not? Bring it to the table. It also seemed like a viable option to do it without any upfront cost the way I set it up with Sunrun.
They met with me and they looked at my house. They were friendly and knew what they were talking about. The whole process, even from once we were initially approved based on roof size, was seamless especially the HOA piece. We needed HOA approval and Sunrun handled the entire process that I didn't really have to do the whole thing. So for me, it was a couple of signatures and sit-downs to understand the model, how it works and kind of the Xcel rollbacks that I’ll receive. It was really good. I just got it installed in October or November so it’s not the peak of the time period of the year to be really seeing the benefits a lot but I am seeing lower Xcel bills so I know it’s working. I’m still paying the 50 bucks a month to Sunrun so I’ll see more of a benefit when I start actually seeing the credits applied.

A number of people showed up at the door and were certain they could lower our bills but they couldn’t. It took a lot of convincing but Paul from Sunrun was the first one who showed up and said, “You don’t have to pay anything.” Starting the enrollment process wasn’t the smoothest but it eventually got done. The installation was fine. It was more on getting everything done and signed, which happened over some holidays. I called someone and she was out, and her voicemail directed me to someone else and so on. I kept calling Paul and he was very patient and he got everything sorted out for us. He was the one who coordinated everything.
The bills are what we expected. We have circuits that are backed up on the power wall to the battery which, when it was put in, was a new thing but nobody told us there was another breaker box so we lost power in very odd ways. The upper half of the kitchen lost power. We could cook on the stove but couldn’t use the overhead light, and it was right before Thanksgiving. We thought that there was just something going wrong with PG&E, and the PG&E guy came out, spotted the second breaker box, flipped the switch and turned everything back on. Now we know there’s a second breaker box so if we have this problem again, we can find it. But it would have been nice to know that. We could have been without power over Thanksgiving because the Sunrun tech couldn’t get here until the following Tuesday.
The bright box was included and it was probably the tipping factor to get my husband to agree to going solar because I’d wanted it since 1972 but he wasn’t convinced. Having the battery means that if the neighbors are out of power, we’re not. It happened once since installation that the neighborhood lost power and we still had it. However, I got an email a couple of weeks ago about my first True-Up bill and that meant that the next PG&E bill would be nothing because it would be Truing-Up. But the PG&E bill looks like it always does and I’ve never seen anything to explain what Truing-Up is.
Overall, getting the paperwork done over the course of the holiday with everybody going on vacation and the round robin voicemail could have been done better. I’m also hoping the True-Up situation will go more smoothly. Nonetheless, I certainly would recommend Sunrun. I’d tell others to go solar with Sunrun and it doesn’t cost anything.

I got Sunrun over 2 years ago after THEY convinced me about how much I would save. What a scam! I saved about $200 in 2 years. Not only am I paying 2 bills now, but the system malfunctions all the time. It malfunctioned in August 2017 (one of the best months to produce energy) and took them a month to fix it. I was promised a performance guarantee every year and this year they just did not do it. It's been about 2 weeks and they are still looking into it. To top it off my system is not working again and again. It will take a month to fix. So not only do I have to pay them but I have to pay my normal electric bill. For all the frustrations the measly savings is not worth it.
Thank you for reaching out, Rajeev. We are sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your Sunrun system. Our goal is to provide clean energy but that should also include some savings. Typically, this is provided by offering a lower price per kilowatt rate than the utility company. The system is sized based on your pre-solar usage as long as you are within that usage you should not be seeing a higher bill. A Specialist has sent you a direct message in regards to your concerns.

I would highly recommend them.

When we decided to use Sunrun's solar energy services, we didn't have to pay for the solar panels and take a loan out. Our experience has been good so far, even though it took about three months to put the panels on. And when they emailed us to turn it on, our box had a red light. The guy said it was normal, but when it didn't do anything and the red light stayed, they sent somebody out a week later. He was awesome. Right now, even though we haven't received our first bill yet, we can already tell the difference on our weekly from the local power company because it's already negative in wattage.

They don't monitor your system. They promise you can say goodbye to your electric co. No you cannot. You still have to pay a monthly amount to use the line. I got a salesperson told one story then Infinity to installed the system with another story & the Sunrun story. Sunrun will not honor what I was told by the salesperson & infinity & they will reminded real quick, "You signed a contract." Which I told the salesperson I did not want sign a contract till I could read the whole contract & have my brother go over it to make sure it was what he signed up for his home & then we could explain it to my Dad. Well he tricked me & signed online which I had no idea this could be done.
I cannot tell you how many times I said to him I don't want to sign a contract till we go over it. & even after it was signed & would talk to him on the phone or email he never said, "You signed one already" & I would repeat I don't want to sign a contract till we read it. I told Sunrun to all this made no difference. Took them forever to put the system. I was told it would face south. No it faces west. Now that want to chop down trees & when that won't work they will want to chop down our house because it blocks the sun to which Sunrun knew from the start the trees were in the way but didn't address that at the time. I could go on & on but I don't have the space. How they can treat the elderly disable living on fixed income like this. I don't know. The contract should be null & void for all the untruths that was told to me & how the contract was done.
Please don't use this Sunrun. I'm paying them $109 & the electric co all so I had no idea I would have to pay this much money for electricity. With Solar panels my electric bill would only be about $75 This month but instead I'm 109 to Sunrun & $50 to my electric co. This is a nightmare. That Sunrun will not fix. Only want to cut good trees. One is a nut tree & then I guess the home will be next because it blocks the sun too. I'm sorry if this don't make a lot of sense but I'm so upset I cry just thinking how cruel Sunrun is to do this no way to treat a customer. PLEASE TAKE MY WARNING. STAY CLEAR.

We went to Costco, talked to a guy, and he hooked us up with the Sunrun representative. We chose to go with them because we like Costco and the warranties that they had. Their rep called and came to us then we talked about solar energy services. She went over our PG&E bill and we saw how big of a system we needed. The enrollment process was very easy and they did everything.
We got the Brightbox Battery since PG&E was going to change their pay and they're going to go based on the time I used energy. So, if the peak time is in the night, it's going to be more expensive. But if we had the box we could use our energy instead of PG&E's. So Sunrun will make it cheaper overall. But they sent a letter today saying that hooking us up is going to be a little while. Other than that, everything went smoothly with Sunrun. We got the things to sign and I kept getting emails from them letting us know what was going on on every step.

Verengo installed the panels on the roof and then my account was given over to Sunrun for maintenance and billing. Now, they’re the ones I pay and talk to. Their reps are nice, professional, courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. However, there weren’t enough panels up there and I’m still paying a significant amount to Southern California Edison. They tell me that my average production is 600 and something but month after month, I see that the actual production was down to 400 and something kilowatt hours.
Once in a while, it’ll get up to about 600-kilowatt when it should’ve been hitting 900 with the solar panels to make it work out. I’m in my fifth year paying 174 to Sunrun every month plus I’m paying 200 or more in the winter months to SCE. I have told Sunrun and asked Verengo but they just say that it’s not their problem or their fault. They said they have re-evaluated it and that there were sufficient panels up there.
Sunrun needs to come out here, solve and re-evaluate what I pay them if they have to. They should get it to where I’m not paying them almost 200 a month. I’m in the desert and I don’t have any trees blocking the panels so it should be making at least 600 consistently every month. But even if they figured out that they computed it wrong and that all I needed was enough panels to make 600-kilowatt hours a month, that’s still not enough for my house. There should’ve been more panels spilt up. I feel I got suckered into this a little bit.

It works the same for me.
Right now, I’m talking to them about a situation that came up. We bought the house a year and a half ago and we had the solar put on. But since we’re having a pigeon problem, they put strings around it and that stopped that. Then, we had an inspection for an insurance company and they said that our roof needed to be attended before we can proceed with our insurance. I called Sunrun and that’s what they’re looking into right now. Other than that, they were prompt on the pigeon problem and the people they sent did an excellent job. The people at Sunrun were very professional. They came out here and sat us down and talked to us. And we put our faith and our $50,000 retirement money into this roof, these panels, a window put in, and a door put in, thinking that they were all on the up and up. And I believe that they are. We’re happy as far as them putting the roof on but we're not happy to find out that it was not connected correctly. The panels were not generating any power because they were disconnected. And while they were putting the panels up, the wiring was spliced by one of the panels. I had to call the maintenance of Sunrun. They came in and diagnosed what the problem was. And in the meantime, my electric bill went sky high, and I had to pay over $500 for the gas and electric bill.
I went with solar energy services to save some money on my electric bill. But so far, it cost me money. I’m not satisfied with my bill now. Sunrun came out with courtesy. They were punctual, and they did a very nice job on my roof and the panels that stood on the roof. I’m just so disappointed that I put out almost $900 in two months for my gas and electric bill. And I thought I was saving money, but it seemed as though at that particular point I was not. I’m a senior citizen, I’m on a fixed income, and I had to stretch my money to pay that bill.
They need to compensate us on our electric bill, simply because it wasn’t our fault. I reached out to Sunrun and the resolution was that they did some math, and they were going to credit me about $80, which was very disappointing. They should’ve given me more than that because I have autopay with them, and they take out x amount of dollars. And they are not missing any payments from me, so I should’ve been reimbursed about three times.

My wife and I were leaving on a vacation to see our kids and we had to take my brother, but we didn’t get to leave until July 18th because of their delays. So, we had to cancel some reservations and there were many processed. Also, we only got approved to turn on the service on August the 5th. So overall, Sunrun says one thing and they don't back up the words they say.
Afterwards, when they missed wired circuits and had to come out to fix it, they came in a timely manner and were quick to deal with. I am really disappointed to be spending my time and energy writing this review. We purchased a home that already had SunRun solar installed with promises of great savings and service. However, now being the owners we have had quite the opposite experience. The latest issue began with us receiving a high usage alert from our electric company, SDGE letting us know we were getting a penalty for extra high usage. It was surprising since for the last year we have paid around $5-$15 to SDGE.
We assumed it must be a mistake so we followed up with them. We then discovered that our solar had been failing for the last 2 months and not reporting any energy at all. We were shocked that no one contacted us to let us know until we received a $1200 bill! We then contacted SunRun and had to leave a message. The next day we received a notification from SunRun that there is a meter problem and that someone will schedule to come out. I began calling SunRun multiple times sitting on hold and waiting for over 40 minutes each time - even up to over an hour without getting in touch with anyone.
I never got through to anyone to help me - the only person I was in contact with was the contractor who came to look at my system. He was not only an hour late but he could not provide me with any information. He said he was simply a contractor and couldn't help with anything. I began sending emails to try and reach someone - even researching to find employee email addresses to get help. I opened a support ticket over a week ago and haven't received a response or an update. Sunrun has yet to reply or reach out and contact me.
The contractor was supposed to fix the issue but today after checking it has still not been resolved. We are now facing over $1200 in fees and penalties as well as electric we should not be charged for due to having solar. Furthermore this company's ethics and integrity is grossly underwhelming since the only way we have heard we can get a reply is by making a bad review letting the world know about their issues. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS!

We started looking for contractors at Costco to replace some defective solar tiles that the manufacturer of our home put in about 10 years ago. One of them failed and caused the series to go down. We got three bids and one of them came from Sunrun. Their Costco connection made all the difference so we went with them. Amir was our sales rep and he was very good and helpful. He was very responsive, very smart, and easy to talk to. Initially, Sunrun thought they had something that looked right to replace our original roof tiles. But it wasn't and that delayed things a little bit. I was the one who located the correct tiles for them. With my earlier leg work in trying to track down the manufacturer of the original stuff, I located the sites where they had those roof tiles and put the contact down. Then Sunrun got a hold of those and proceeded with the main work.
They were organized and had a work flow management system of sorts. There were a lot of things going on and most of that went pretty good. I also appreciated the level of transparency and follow up that they had. The existing solar tiles that were up there was hit by a homerun that came into the roof. In the original survey of the thing, it was indicated that the cables were not like the new stuff and the hooks were up on the roof. Sunrun's reps couldn't get out with that so they put a separate way over the roof and down the side at the back to the garage area. There was another hiccup but it was simply an error on one of the installers while he was drilling into our router from the local telecom in the wall in the garage. Fortunately, the telecom had a guy out there within an hour or so to swap that.
Also, when we surveyed the area, we knew where we were going to place the step but it turned out we couldn’t do it there, so we had to move it someplace else. We could have done that on the outside of the house but we had it in the garage. It was more awkward there and when I went inside, I realized it was a mistake. So, I had to watch out for that thing over my shoulder while getting out the Prius there.
Other than that, the installation went well and the install team was great while removing the solar tiles from the original manufacturer. They particularly looked to see if there was any damage because something failed and they located the faulty tile. It had an area where wire had burnt completely through on a little collector box underneath the solar tile. It was melted pretty much so, it could have been a fire hazard. Those tiles were being recalled and I will be filing against that manufacturer to see if I could get some compensation and hopefully prevent any real fires from occurring. Sunrun's guys kept about three of those tiles as the evidence for me.
Another hiccup had to do with the invoice. There were two separate payment things for the activities. One was the main thing for the contract and it was about $11,000 which we paid early on. The other contract had to do with removing and replacing the original solar tiles, and replacing my roof tiles, which was for $1,200. That invoice was very mysteriously written. I had no idea what it was for then I got a bunch of emails back and forth to get some clarification from folks. It held up the payment for about five days as they couldn’t get it together. But I never got the other clear invoice and receipt for what the $1,200 was for even though I paid it. Apparently, their systems weren't permitting genuine paperwork to track it to it’s actual warranty and installation. But the stuff and the work they put in my home were warrantied so, it was not an issue.
We are so grateful for your feedback, Richard! We certainly focus on your experience by maintaining competency, and professionalism all throughout. So glad you're a part of our Sunrun family! Thanks for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

I was looking a little bit to get off the grid and then also to save some money on the electrical bill. I filled something out with Sunrun and because the door-to-door sales guy was new, they brought in the regional sales guy as well. It went good. After they were gone, my wife kept pounding them with questions through text over the next couple of weeks and they answered all the questions. Afterwards, they called and asked if they could schedule the installation on a Thursday for the next week but we pushed back. Then the next time they called back, they didn’t have any materials. So they had to push it back a couple of weeks further.
By then, we were coming towards the end of the fall. We're not really producing power now. We've had snow in the first part of January and quite a few rain days here lately. But our system would probably be better once it starts getting more sunny this Spring and we're looking to see what is going to happen then. Even though we had a few hiccups with Sunrun, they corrected everything, got everything taken care of and have been spot-on. I even had to call the hotline one afternoon and asked questions. They answered them and walked me through things. It was good.

I had an original contact person in Sunrun but she quit the next day. When I called for information, I kept on going to a multitude of people and I never really got a contact to call somebody until the very end. It was terrible. I live in a large house about 4,000 square feet. It's a single family with a basement. When Sunrun made their proposal, they came out with some x number of panels and I looked at it and they quoted about 27% off the bill. But when the installation guys were up on the roof, I didn't have enough panels. The panels were smaller than I thought they were. Sunrun quoted me $70 a month if we automatic pay and then it went to $78. But then I wanted more panels, so I told them to not turn it on until I'm satisfied with the system.
A Sunrun rep sent me diagrams for more panels and the price would've gone up to $120 a month. So it started to defeat Sunrun's purpose at this point. I finally got fed up and told them to just put it up, which they did but I still couldn't contact anybody. And then Sunrun had to send EPS out here, which is our electric company. The EPS guy gave the go signal to turn it on, so we did. Then Sunrun called me back and I told them that we turned it on because the EPS guy said we could, and they were fine with that. I've had it up and running for about three months now. My experience sucked and I wished that I looked into another company and had two or three people come out.

I see Sunrun when I shop at Costco, and I asked them one time how much it costs, and they came and did an assessment. And because the cost of electricity is increasing, I enrolled with Sunrun. Everything was smooth and I was happy with the process. I have had a good conversation with their representative. And during the installation, I was kept me informed of its stages. The communication was good and easy, and then I was told how to turn the system on. We have connected through email, too.
They changed the contract because they said the roof couldn’t handle the number of panels. So, they reduced the panels and for one year only, I'd pay for the interest only. And after one year, I’ll pay the remaining $222 payment. I’m satisfied to have gone solar. I like that the payments are pretty much nothing and considering the monthly payment I was paying and then what I pay right now, it's not bad. I have recommended Sunrun to my family, and I have told them how much my electric bill is.

After getting a $600 summer air-conditioning bill, I looked for solar energy services. And Sunrun came around that time. Their customer service team has been helpful, and the guy I initially talked to seemed to know what he was talking about. Going solar with Sunrun saves me a little money. And I'm satisfied, but I would be happier if I could figure out how much I'm saving for a year. They were good at communicating at first, but now I don’t hear much from them at all. Their website doesn’t provide much information anymore. It used to tell how much you generated and how much you saved with that, but now, it just tells you how many kilowatts are generated and how many trees you didn’t kill. Sunrun said when I get my True app, I can calculate the savings for the year. And when I tried to do it, it didn’t work on the website.
Thank you for your feedback, Jim. As long as you have had your system for one full year, we can provide you with a Savings Analysis to see how much you are saving with going solar. Please contact our customer care department at 855-478-6786 to get this started for you.

I had done my research and wanted to go green, and lose dependence on the current energy source so I looked into solar energy. Home Depot actually sent one of the companies that worked with Sunrun and that company sized what we needed for our house and once they installed the system, it got turned over to Sunrun. I wanted to go through somebody I knew and trusted. I know Home Depot for a long time now since I do purchase things there and I’m happy with the experience. So that’s one of the thing that made me go with Sunrun because it was sponsored by Home Depot.
Initially when they sized the number of panels that was needed for my house they could’ve done a better job. The solution they implemented for my house is undersized because I got a lot more space on the roof top as well as in the back of my house. I got a two acre property, so there’s a lot more energy that could’ve been produced and that wasn’t done. If they had put more panels it would have produced more energy that could’ve gone back to the grid plus 600 dollars savings. At the end it’s a win for Sunrun more than me. So, I approached Sunrun through three calls and I wasn’t too pleased with that aspect of them, they were not responsive. That’s the only beef I have with Sunrun, other than that they do a good job in monitoring.
It's a fairly new system. It's only four plus years. I don’t have any issues, nothing has failed and everything runs smooth. Their remote monitoring works great. There was one electronic failure and they took care of it immediately. I don’t have a problem recommending Sunrun to friends and family, which I have already done.
Thank you for your feedback Nagesh! We are happy to hear that you are satisfied with your system. Providing a great customer experience is what we want our customer’s to have. In regards to your system, the amount of panels on your roof is determined based on your current usage, not by the size of your roof or home. We want to always make sure we are educating our customers on their solar system. Please feel free to contact our customer care department at 855-478-6786 to discuss further.

I looked into solar energy to save on my energy bill and for the purpose of clean energy. I enrolled at Sunrun and it was pretty easy. I was satisfied with what they offered. Everything went pretty smoothly for me, all the representatives from sales all the way through installation went pretty smoothly. Someone came out to do an evaluation of my property to see whether or not I could actually qualify for a system and from there to installation. Since my system has been turned on I don’t see any difference in what I've received as far as my bill from the local electric company. It spiked but it didn’t spike electrical, it spiked gas which I didn’t understand. Nonetheless, I am very satisfied with my decision to go solar and I would recommend Sunrun. My experience was really good and I was pleased with the steps in the installation, and they did a great job for me.

Arizona had a program to grandfather us into solar energy services and our daughter referred us to Sunrun. Also, they had a better plan when I compared them to Solar City. Premiere did the installation and they were good. Sunrun then took over the billing but it was initially difficult to find their contact information and get a hold of anybody. But I do most of my billing now online and it's very easy to use that platform. I’m very satisfied and I would definitely recommend them.

Our electricity bill has always been super high so it was a financial decision and also an effort also to be environmentally friendly that we got Sunrun. We have central AC and my husband has a home office that uses quite a bit of electricity as well just because he has servers that he runs, monitors and tons of computers. My husband’s work wasn’t going to be changing and I knew we weren’t going to get rid of the pool and I had no interest of getting rid of the electric vehicle so it just kind of seemed like we can either continue paying tons and tons and tons of money to the power companies or we can adjust by getting solar energy service. My husband and I talked about it a couple of times and then when we were at Costco together we agreed to have a home visit with Sunrun.
Getting enrolled was very easy. There was a woman who came to the house and explained the whole process and was talking about, “What do you want? What are your needs?” And she was really lovely. She was probably my favorite person in the whole process. And she kind of showed us samples. She's like, “I got either samples but these are what customers in your neighborhood, in your ZIP Code have experienced after switching to Sunrun.” And our neighbor right across the street has Sunrun solar panels too which helps.
But there were a couple of things that I was disappointed, that didn’t wind up working out for us. We wanted to have that $5,000 battery that stores up energy and we were really excited about having that placed. That way if the power surges we would never have to lose or if there was ever like some sort of big emergency we would have all the power sort out but they weren’t able to put our panel with our refrigerator on it and that’s one of the most important things I want to be kept.
And we got so much misinformation like one person was like, “No, no, no. That panel is going to go on your battery,” and another guy would say, “No, it's not,” and then the other person was like, “Yes, it is,” and then, “No, it's not.” And that was a four or five-week process. That was really frustrating for my husband and I because it really delayed the whole thing. But other than that glitch we've been very happy with Sunrun, the service and we were happy with all the people that came to our home that were provided from Sunrun.
Southern California Edison used to send us these letters, “Compared to the people in your neighborhood you are at basically like the 98 percentile or the 96 percentile.” We were always the top energy users in our neighborhood. But I got a letter in the mail yesterday and it says now we're at the 68 percentile instead of the 98 percentile. So I was happy that we've cut back quite a bit on our electricity. And aside from the solar, nothing has changed. So my experience with Sunrun was great. Start to finish I felt like they run a tight shift. I've been shopping at Costco for 15 years and the fact that Costco put their name on it and their stamp of approval it's almost like a trusted friend telling you, “This product is the best.”

I was hoping to get a stand-alone system that I could rely upon for power regardless of the status of the Southern California Edison. Currently as it stands, you have to be connected to them and drawing power from them in order to use solar energy. The neighbors and their satisfaction made us choose Sunrun, and my power bill is greatly reduced. Enrolling with Sunrun was complicated, though. They wanted to get it done quickly and I wanted to pay for it before the end of the year so I could get a tax credit, which I didn't accomplish. Also, Sunrun doesn't do what they could do better. They're obsessed with their own engineering process and they were not interested at all in customers’ requirements.

The reason for this review is my mother is being harassed daily by Sunrun, Inc. They went door to door in her retirement community and they kept returning back to her house 3 days in a row. Finally she was pressured to get the solar installed after she was told that it would be free. My mother has sustained brain damage and had brain surgery and is not very well with making decisions. She never received a phone call or any mail for 1 year until now. She recently found out they have been sending her email to another persons email address. She is getting harassed on a daily basis that she owes $2000.00 in back payments and late charges.
I have to hear this from her every day and now I am disgusted with how Sunrun, Inc. treats the elderly. Because of the stress of being harassed she has acquired shingles and had to be hospitalized. My Mother is not in the best health. She has heart issues and the stress is making it worse. My mother is on a fixed income. I don't understand how an owner of a company could sleep at night taking advantage of the senior citizens. She has requested repeatedly with every conversation she's had with them to come and take them down. How could this be happening? I just don't understand.

But the customer service reps were professional. I appreciated having the access to those people that we needed. We had Sunrun solar system installed in 2010 and are paying more for electricity than before installation. We even had several large trees that were originally shading the panels removed since the panels were installed. When I tried to lease additional panels, I was very abruptly told that would require an entirely new 20 yr lease and absolutely no willingness to negotiate an addendum to the existing lease. I would a) not recommend leasing a solar system and b) not likely to recommend this company.

When I received a $135 bill from Sunrun AND a 236.00 bill from Eversource in the same month--I contacted them to find out why I was receiving 2 bills and in fact was paying DOUBLE for my electricity! They said because it was winter, I wouldn't see the savings yet. Wait, what??? So now I am getting 2 bills? When I questioned it, I was told to refer to page 10 of our agreement--sure enough, the fine print is that you will receive 2 bills. No explanation of this by the sales rep--and really---Page TEN??? So I am seeing no savings (in fact I see an INCREASE), I feel completely ripped off, and I see no benefit--and I am feeling pretty stupid.
I thought I was doing a good thing--reducing my footprint and saving money. I am not even sure I am reducing my footprint, given the electric bill. I even made a referral--she completed her installation, and now I am afraid to talk with her. Never saw the promised referral commission check either. I am embarrassed and now understand why people were wary to go solar. I am an older adult and should have known better--I will likely be stuck with this for the rest of my life. Very angry.

Everything has been very good. I'm very satisfied with my decision but I'm a little unhappy about the fact that my electrical bill is going up again and I can't add panels to it without doing a whole new system. And that's too expensive. So that's the frustration for me. I'm sure Sunrun is bound by regulations so they can't just do that. The technology is there. I have had a couple of little problems with the Sunrun meters and they’ve taken care of it. They’ve responded in the best way possible. There was a lady that I spoke with in California named Megan when there were a couple of glitches, but she took care of it immediately.
However, when I was given the Sunrun quote of $377.42 a month, it was supposed to reduce my electric bill down to a $25 or $30 deposit for the Helco meter. My electric bill runs about $150 a month over Sunrun which puts it right back up to where it was before I got the solar. Electricity was about 48 cents a kilowatt when we all got our systems and now it’s 53 and a half cents a kilowatt. But it has nothing to do with Sunrun's product. I either don’t have enough panels or it’s because our electric company is outrageous. And then, when I called them back the gentleman I spoke to wasn’t the one for the appointment, so he didn’t have any of the information. He had to go in and do everything, so it took much longer than anticipated. Nonetheless, the installation went smoothly. The guys were really nice. So far, I'm very happy with the decision to go solar. My bills have been very minimal, just the connect fee. However, I'm not happy with Sunrun's app. Every time I try to log in, it says, "Welcome. Would you like to go solar?" even though I've been solar for some time now. It has never worked properly for me. But that's okay, I can go out and look at my panel if I want information.
Because I had so many troubles with the app and their communication, I had to contact them four or five different times to get my phone number on everything. My dad technically owns the house and they have his number, which I understand. Legally they have to have the contract in his name, but they keep calling him for appointments even though I had asked multiple times to have my name put in there and my phone number. So, my father would have to call me and the whole thing would be delayed by a day or so by the time I could get back to them because they weren't contacting the right person. I had to send multiple emails asking for that to be fixed. Sunrun is definitely worth checking out. Sunrun went in our community and they had reached out to me. I explained to them that the solar panels and lowering my electric bill sounded good. But, I couldn't afford another expense because I'm retired and the Social Security in retirement is not going up. And I spoke with Brandon and he told me that it would be at no cost to me. And then, later on, after the guy came and checked, they told me that I needed to get my roof repaired. They were here earlier and they checked my roof after a storm. And they said I didn't qualify to have the roof repaired. I told them I couldn't afford to do it. And I was told that only half of the roof would be repaired. I told them it didn't sound feasible.
And then, a young man who was working in the neighborhood came by and told me that I have hail damage. He also told me to call my insurance company and he'd go up there with them when they would inspect the roof. So, he did and they replaced my roof. I called Sunrun back and told them I've gotten a new roof and asked them what will happen. The person I spoke with said they would have to get their guy back out there to look at the roof again and then, they could do another estimate.
And then, someone else had taken over and I told him that I was told that it would be at no cost to me. And he knew there was no cost. They put the solar panels up and the only papers I signed was for something for doing the box on the side of the house. Then, I got an email stating that my bill for Sunrun was past due. So, I called and I wanted to know what was due for Sunrun and I found out that it was for the lease on the panels. I told them nobody ever discussed leasing the panel and I was told that there would be no charge. And they just said that my bill was past due. I didn't want anything past due as far as my credit goes like for so long. I told them that I'd pay the $45 and I needed to see the papers after that.
I saw the papers and my initials are not on them and it doesn't have my signature. And I didn't see any papers dealing with finances prior to them sending me supposedly my copy in the mail. I don't appreciate the idea of my name being signed on something that I was told would be at no charge. Also, I paid $45 last month and I just got a bill yesterday that says I owed $90 now. I wouldn't recommend Sunrun to a friend because if they try to slip in papers like that to me, they may try it with a friend.

Our electrical bill would vary between $70 and $400 over the course of the year and we wanted something that would normalize or offset that as well as help pay for it so we looked into getting solar energy. Within a year of having Sunrun installed the system went down and was out of commission for three months while we were waiting for a service tech to come out and fix it. And then they came out, couldn’t find anything wrong with it and reset it.
And I said, “Well, that’s going to work for me. If you’re going to make me wait three months, you’re going to have to replace something.” And they did. They replaced some power inverter and it’s been working fine since then. We’re now on our third year. It’s a little annoying what APS does with them. APS changed Sunrun's rates because they have solar, and are not buying that much electricity from them but yet they're providing electricity at APS. And one annoyance I also have is that between Sunrun and APS it’s extremely difficult to decipher my usage and what they sold back. The values don’t match between what APS reports and what Sunrun reports. They’re reporting different things. They don’t really make it easy for you to figure out what’s actually happening. But Sunrun definitely normalized our electric bill throughout the course of the year to a degree. We don’t have this slight variations in electricity usage and we’re quite pleased with it.

I moved to a new home and my bill came in at $545. I got to go solar and I enrolled with Sunrun. The rep came to my house and educated me on the panels and what to expect. He was amazing. And I felt very informed in forming my decision. I tracked my bills for a few more months to make sure that I’m getting the right size system.
Sunrun's customer service team checks on me more than I need, and they’ve been keeping in contact with me throughout the process. I got the panels installed in November. And it was the worst month since the daylight is not as long as normal. But everything was projected that my system will do and it looks like I got exactly what I was supposed to get. My system is not producing its maximum capacity right now because we’re in the winter. But the days when it was sunny, it did what it’s supposed to do in the summer so I know I got exactly the size that I wanted to get. I'm satisfied, and so far, my experience has been amazing.

I wanted something cheaper and a friend told me about Sunrun and I went with it. Their enrollment process was very good. They were fast and they did a clean job. The customer service team was very good too. They were very punctual and they kept their promise. They did very well all around. However, I didn’t expect to have two bills. I cannot tell if my real goal was met because my goal is to reduce the bill but I’m getting 150 from here and 180 from there so I am about 300. It may be a little bit bent on the bill in terms of cost but I was expecting that it would be a very big difference but I don’t see that. When you combine both bills you know that where I was before is close to where it is now but it’s a little bit on the lower side. I’m still watching the number though. It’s really too small so I don’t have much to really compare it.
Furthermore, it is difficult to refer somebody. I called customer service one day to get a reference and they told me to go to the website to do this and do that. But I had to postpone it because I don’t have too much time in a day. The process to refer somebody up has to be easier. Nonetheless, I would recommend them for now.

Solar is the way to go. My stepson installs solar hut in California and he told us that it would probably be our best bang for the buck here in Arizona. With the rising price of electricity, we were trying to find a cheaper means to live our lives. The enrolment with Sunrun was okay but it was the office kept making screw-ups.They didn’t get the layout right and then the permitting wasn’t right. They messed it up. They had arranged to put the unit inside. And when they came, their drawing was all for the outside. And so then, they had to go back and redo that. And then, they messed up the permitting so it took more time but eventually when the guys finally came to do the job, they did great. We've only had one bill and so far it was good.

My daughter told me about Sunrun. I've thought about it for years. I like the idea that it's got to do with energy conservation and helping the earth. However, it was out of reach financially, and we talked to one that had incentives for installation, zero consumer cost. Enrollment was easy but there was a lot of back and forth, but I think it was necessary because the crews had to be involved. Nonetheless, it was worth it. The customer service has been spot on when I talked to them. The installation took three months from the time the panels got put in, to the time they got turned on because it went as far as country inspection, inspection from the power, inspection from a lot of stuff. I assumed it's the usual red tape if there's any type of switchover on your electrical to a different source.
I have not regretted going solar. The only thing is it has broken my gutters because of the snow. We've had an unusual two periods of snow, which put about five or six inches of snow laying on the grids and then it got my gutters and one of my gutters had a dent and it's at the very top of the house, which needs an extension ladder to be repaired. Unfortunately, that didn’t fall under the category of their responsibility. So, they told me it's up to me to get my gutter repaired. I'm a little disappointed with that. But I now have a gutter that's turned sideways instead of turned up and I had a different carpentry company hired to fix it.
Furthermore, I found that their engineers who had met with me and showed me the aerial diagrams went over with how much percentage of solar power given the angle of my house as well as all the stuff I was eligible for. When they did come out, I took the day off so I could be here to see what was going on. And as things changed with the tab, they accommodated me on the placement of tab doors and the wiring, how it led from the panels to the house to where it would aesthetically look good. And I was very, very pleased with that aspect. They did their very best to conceal as much of the tab doors as possible and that's really a big deal. The visual of my house is not ugly. It looks really nice and I found the crew that came out to be very professional and very nice.
Our first three bills were $25, and then this last month's bill was $190 something. So, I don't know what happened. I haven't been able to check inside. I took the day off and I thought I should call them and ask if their meters are running properly because they probably also have snow. My solar panels are covered in snow. And then, we've also had winter with its different angle of the sun. So, I figured that would cause the big jump in my energy cost, but it's also gotten cold too.
Thank you for your communication, Donna! We are happy to know you are satisfied with your solar system. In the winters you do produce the least amount whereas the Spring and Summer months give you your production at your highest. That could be the leap in your bill. My father was 85 years old when a SunRun salesperson leased a solar system to him. They told him the system would be totally free. All he needed to do is provide his roof in Yuma Az. That was a lie. They then wrote a lease with him listing his middle name first and his first name second. Had he saw that he would have corrected his name. They then set up his billing to be sent by an old email address. He hasn’t opened an email in 5 years. So he never saw or paid one bill. He died about 6 months later. That’s when the family found an unopened bill from SunRun informing him that his account was delinquent and his system was going to be deactivated. We paid the bill unknowingly what had happened.
Nothing happened until January of 2018 when we get another demand letter. I was at his home in Yuma at that time and contacted SunRun to find out what was going on. I discovered the solar system was producing less than 40 percent of the production guarantee. I explained we had never gotten a bill because they were being sent by email that was never opened. 3 days later I get another demand letter threatening deactivation if payment isn’t made. Because of the loss of production SunRun owes him about double of what he owes them. If this isn’t resolved fairly I plan on suing them for bad faith.

There's a person working for the city of Norwalk that doesn't like how we have our stuff in the backyard. They'd tell us to pick the stuff up and do it their way. The city is in the way for the residents to install solar panels, and that's why people don't want to put them up. I hired Sunrun because they promised me they were going to take care of these people in the city, and they did.
However, I found out that I have a bill with Edison for $40 every month, which was hidden and they didn’t tell me. I called Sunrun yesterday and I talked to Brad, and he told me the opposite of what Edison was telling me. Sunrun told me that I dealt kilowatts, and I gave them so many kilowatts during the day so whatever I used at night, it shouldn't count because I produce so much energy. But Edison told me that even though I produce so much energy, I still have a deal with them. But I only pay $20 to Edison every month. I was paying $300 for electricity in the summer, but now I only pay $150. I am very satisfied with Sunrun.

I’ve been doing everything possible to my home over the years without going solar and we were very efficient compared to all our neighbors. But then, Arizona Corporation Commission was messing with rates on the value of solar so I decided to try solar energy. We were running out of time and because of Sunrun's financial price benefit, I went with them.
I was really pleased with the project management process with the sales rep I had. Everything they said was on time, on plan and fairly accurate. The system got hooked up and all went well. My rep was technical and was able to explain things but maybe not quite enough. I probably would’ve upsized the system a bit more. I told her that I was not experiencing the full benefit of the full output yet. I was already with a load controller and it’s providing almost 100% usage which is a little hard to do in the winter because we don’t have sun after 5:30. But I’ve seen some neighborhood blog stuff with people complaining about Sunrun. They seemed to rebuild their sales reps and the whole solar model in Arizona’s just really fractured now. Other than that, I’m pleased with my decision to go solar. In fact, I got a neighbor who booked with Sunrun because of me.

So far, everything has been working perfectly. It generates a good amount of electricity, like what I was anticipating it would do, and it has been problem free. It’s nice to know that that I’m spending a set amount for electricity over the next x-number of years and then my basic electrical needs will be basically free after that. The only problem we had was that when they came to install the system, they just hooked it up and left. They could have explained a few things but they didn't say anything and we didn’t know if the system was already going or if we still had to do something, and we also had no idea that there were going to be several things added to the front of the house. We have enjoyed the panels on the roof and the lower energy costs, but the customer service lately has been terrible. Sunrun's meter stopped working and rather than replace it with a new wireless meter that would work in our area, they told me that they needed to drill into through my wall and hardwire the meter into my internet router. That is nonsense and not required under my agreement. Despite that, rather than fix their equipment, they have continued to threaten to terminate my performance credits (in breach of their own agreement). I have requested to speak with their legal department, but they refused and indicated that their legal department is not "customer facing." A Sunrun system was installed in the home when we purchased it. It's the first solar system that I have been involved with. So, I called their customer service team once and spoke to a gentleman. He explained to me how the system worked. The system works and it has been fine. I'm in the Palms Springs area. And it's very popular here for lease system and although it has nothing to do with the system per se, I wouldn't have leased it because it's a big burden and they get the ride off. But, it was the way the original homeowner had it installed. And so, I rent it and pay Sunrun for all the energy that's generated. And then we pay Southern California Edison for what we need beyond it.
I pay 19 cents per Kilowatt hour instead of 22 to Southern California Edison so it's a little bit better. But, if I were about two miles from where I am now, I would be on a different power grid from a different provider. And it would be 13 cents an hour I'd be paying for the energy generated. So, I'd be paying more to have solar. So, where I am now is a slight advantage.

I looked at about five different companies and created a spreadsheet on them all and Sunrun beat everyone else’s program by far. Most of the companies didn’t have a lease program so that was one of the big deciding factors. I love the company but I am still trying to get a rebate back from them on a referral that I gave them. And I’ve contacted them a couple of times about this referral and they still haven’t responded and taken care of it.
The installation was done through Solar Energy World. I’m in the middle of the winter and after doing some research of my own I had to find out that that’s the worst time in the world to really see the meter move backwards. And so recently they sent out an email that described that basically in the wintertime, most customers do not see the true benefit as far as their bill is concerned because they have a Sunrun bill as well as their normal utility bill. And because of the amount of sunlight they may not see a difference as far as cost is concerned once you add two bills together. I wish they had told me that earlier. It would’ve saved me a lot of research.
I was getting frustrated because here I am expecting my meter to run backwards in the middle of the winter and it’s rare that that happens. But when I called them because I was not getting any readings whatsoever once the installers finished they responded very quickly. They sent someone out here from Solar Energy World. They found out that the system wasn’t programed properly and they got that fixed quickly. So my only frustration right now is this rebate issue. And so I sent them two clients -- one I’ve received the rebate on. And the biggest one was 84 panels versus my system being 35 panels and I’m still waiting on that rebate so I’ll reach out to them again. This will be about the fourth time I’ve reached out to them.

My wife and I were searching for a solar company because it was starting to be allowed in our residential area in Staten Island. We had a meeting with a company named Level Solar and when my wife was at Costco, she saw the representative for Sunrun. She took a pamphlet on the information and I decided to give them a call. I liked the meeting we had. When I had a meeting with Level Solar, they weren't compromising. Sunrun had a lot of benefits and they addressed rebates. Plus, Costco was giving a 10% rebate on the purchase of the panels, which is an additional $600 gift card.
Throughout the whole procedure, they were very informative and hands-on. They kept on checking up on me, and every time they would do something or send any paperwork, they would call and follow up on it. If I didn't respond to an email within a day or two, they would call and remind me about it. That was a big plus. Sunrun told us that the whole process was going to be about two months. And it took about three months from the time we started to the day it was finally done. But that was because we had delays. We had a scheduled vacation and we were out for a while. But I wasn't in a rush. They also had to get approval from the city. Overall, it was a great decision to go solar. Our electrical bill recently was around $13 and I've recommended Sunrun to a lot of people.

I am extremely upset with Sunrun not taking responsibility for the leased solar panels on our roof. We have had them for 7 1/2 years now. We have had 5 different instances of roof leaks. Our leasing agreement clearly states quote "SunRun will insure, maintain and repair the Solar Facility at no cost to you, including inverter replacement". Every year we get new leaks. Our roof was 4 years old and never had a leak before their panels were installed. The installers have flashing that they now use to prevent the leaks. Sunrun will not authorize these flashings to be put on the roof I have to just wait to get another leak and have someone come to fix it. Unsightly water stains, painting, ceiling etc is not pretty, not fun to fix and not my fault and I certainly don't want more or to do it again.
We still have 13 years on the lease!!! I have talked to a customer service rep, a manager, in the past 7 days and I now have to wait 3-5 business days for it to escalate to the next level to get a callback, send my complaint in writing to their headquarters etc. The whole experience is a nightmare, time-consuming and not customer friendly. MOST OF ALL THE CONTRACT I SIGNED STATES THEY "WILL INSURE, MAINTAIN, AND REPAIR THE SOLAR FACILITY AT NO COST" to me. What part of maintain am I missing here???

I didn't know anything about solar panels and I wish I had done my homework prior to signing any agreement with this company. I contacted Sunrun to find out about their company and was misinformed about a lot of things.
Had I known at the time what the salesperson was saying was False (A lot of it was not all of it) I would not have decided on solar. My original PG&E bill was around $129 a month. Sunrun said I would only have my $84 a month bill and that PG&E would actually owe me money at the end of the year. All of this was completely false. I ended up having an $84 a month Sunrun Bill Plus a PG&E bill running between 40 and $80 per month, and at the end of this year I had to pay PG&E $500 additional dollars?
I was going to sell my house and originally I was told that if I sell my contract is void with Sunrun. Now they are telling me that it's only void if the person that buys the house wants to take over the contract. If not I am stuck in a 20 year contract even if the house is no longer mine. I can go on and on about things that were told to me that were incorrect, more than unhappy with this whole entire experience and I am going to get out of this contract. One more thing. I've been looking at solar energy services for a long time and I didn't quite know how to get it. So, when a man from Sunrun came around the neighborhood, I enrolled in their services. Their enrollment process was easy. However, the details should've been explained to me more such as what it was and how long it was going to be, etc. I was under the impression that once we bought it, that's it and that's the price.
There's an environmental impact but I do not know if it saves money. Once I went to solar, I was still on a two-tier graphic with PG&E, our electrical company. They then brought us to a three-tier program where they drop the cost per kilowatt at seven at nighttime and it started later instead of going early in the morning. It was a different tier of charging therefore, I don't know how much it saved. After being here for so many years, I think they should offer me the opportunity to buy the system and then they provide the service. It sounds all right. I got a used system now and I should be able to buy.
There was no cost-effectiveness if your electrical company changes your system where you have high and a low buy, when you buy the electricity, say from seven in the morning till seven at night and then it drops price between seven at night and seven in the morning. When you go through a solar system, instead of having levels of cost, the electrical company, the PG&E in my case, breaks it down into three levels instead of two. So, they shorten the low cost and lengthen the more expensive cost.

Updated on 02/28/2019: This is my second review of the company. If you are considering this company, BEWARE! They do not honor what they tell you. READ YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING IT! I have had several problems with our system since day one and it has taken me several days and months to resolve the issues with Sunrun. The latest one is the issue above where two out of 21 of our panels were not working. I had raised this issue with Michael ** and while he (Sunrun) admitted that there was a problem with the inverter, it was fixed (so I was told). Still, I was not satisfied with the result because our electric bill is still high and while I am constantly monitoring the solar edge dashboard it seems like the production is low.
I brought this up several times with their customer care and with Mike **. On many, many occasions I was told by their customer care that there is a performance guarantee and Sunrun would pay us if the system does not produce the energy we needed to power our house. Then, I was told that there was no performance guarantee. In fact this is what Dierdre ** of Sunrun wrote to me on March 16, 2017:
"You are signed up with Sunrun for a Prepaid Lease agreement. This means that Sunrun owns the equipment and you are purchasing the power, not the equipment. Since you do not own the equipment, it's our job to fulfill your lease with whatever equipment delivers on your contract. Your Sunrun agreement is for a system that produces 7,357 kWh a year and 2 batteries, each with a 6.4 kWh capacity (12.8 kWh total). This is exactly what we have finalized your system designs with, as we are not yet designing our Hawaiian customers with the LG Chem without the supply. We have been promised all the remaining Powerwall 1.0s from Tesla and they are almost to the island, ready for install in Spring."
When my husband called Sunrun two weeks ago that the battery backup was not working, a technician came four days later. I then asked him why I thought the system production seems low. He then checked and found that there were 2 panels were not working. So I wrote to Mike ** and he responded that he was sorry that I received information that contradicts my agreement.
This does not make sense. If half of the panels were not working, does that mean that we just take it in stride and accept the fact that the agreement with Sunrun does not cover performance guarantee? We are leasing the equipment and therefore, Sunrun needs to make sure that the panels are working properly to deliver the energy we need to power our house. We never bought new appliances, use our appliances mid-day to obtain maximum energy and report to Sunrun when there are anomalies. DON'T GO WITH THIS COMPANY. Check BBB and reviews before you make a big mistake.
Original Review: I am writing this review to warn prospective customers to look for other companies for their solar system and NOT with Sunrun. Their team does not know what they are doing, they are not familiar with self-supply (battery operated) system, they tell you different excuses, there is no follow up, they do not fulfill their promise like the referral fee (it took almost six months before the person received it and yet they keep saying it is being processed.), and their technicians lack the training even their Customer Care representatives.
I have had several problems/issues with Sunrun. I have a self supply system installed in June 2017 and the first 3 or 4 months, my system has been supplying Hawaiian Electric (HECO) excess production, which is not supposed to be the case. I have been paying HECO so much money like before. I called HECO and they were the one who told me that my system should not be sending HECO excess energy from my system. I called Sunrun, they sent a technician and only then I saw my utility bills lower. They told me they would monitor my system but I ended up monitoring it through my computer dashboard. After a long and several conversations with Sunrun they finally sent me a refund on my utility bills. That is because I have to include their CEO, Lynn Jurich, in my email.
In December, a Sunrun technician came to change something. Then I noticed that our system was not producing anything again. Was Sunrun monitoring it? Of course not! I have to call them again and told them that whenever a technician comes, they make matters worse. The technician came and fixed the inverter. I received my utility bill and it was higher by $35 from the prior month and yet we were not home for two weeks. I called again and asked that they should refund me. Melissa ** from Customer Care said that they will look into it (her supervisor said they would issue me a credit for the difference but I argued that they should refund me for the whole thing like what they did before.)
I have had several conversations with Sunrun about my system production and have been told on many occasions that Sunrun would guarantee generating ** kwh of energy every year and it falls below the ** kwh, I would get a refund. Melissa was surprised that my contract did not state what the production would be every year for 20 years. She said this was the first time she saw such a contract without itemization. While she was checking with her supervisor about my request for a full refund, she then told me that because I have the BrightBox that there was no guarantee how much energy production my system will make and am not entitled to a refund. I asked her so if my system is not producing energy for ** number of days, I don't get anything and she said yes but they will make sure that my system is operating. How can she say that when I am the one monitoring their system and not them.
This would mean I will end up paying more in utility bills. I received this email from Dierdre ** of Sunrun on March 16, 2017: "You are signed up with Sunrun for a Prepaid Lease agreement.
We have been promised all the remaining Powerwall 1.0s from Tesla and they are almost to the island, ready for install in Spring." Notice what she said that my system would produce 7,357 kwh a year! The same information was given to me over and over when I call Sunrun. Today, was different. I am not done with my issues with Sunrun and will continue this battle with them.
Thank you for your feedback, Tessie. We can certainly understand your frustration, especially if you feel you are not seeing the benefits of going solar. We would like to better research this. Our Management Team has reached out for further information regarding this matter.

I've been with Sunrun around 16 months now, and I can honestly say I wish I never went solar. Originally sold as a 94% energy offset, they revised the system and stated a 70ish% energy offset. After over a year with them, they just don't generate a lot of electricity at all, and even the electric company asks me if there's an issue because they aren't getting much electricity from my system. Top that with the fact that the first year fell short of their guarantee (and I'm 100% positive it will be worse this year) and the cost per KW is higher than the electric company... I'm just wasting my money to be part of the "renewable" lease fad. And now I'm stuck with this for another 18+ years. Worst decision I could have made.
Thanks for reaching out to us, Jeff! I understand savings concerns can be frustrating! A Specialist has sent you a direct message, please respond so we can resolve this together!
Jeff updated their star rating from a 2 stars to a 1 stars after speaking with the company outside of the ConsumerAffairs platform.
Not resolved, the company deliberately sent an email stating a technician completed a full inspection of our system. Problem is, my wife is a homemaker who is always home and no technician has been to our home. Upon discussing this with a customer service rep at Sunrun, they openly admitted that no technician actually came to inspect the system and that it was not true. He suggested the problem "self-resolved".
At this point, I'm confident Sunrun should not be in business, and that them (and others like them) are a new variation of predatory lending, setting up 20 year leasing contracts that do not produce anywhere near what they claim. All this, while charging more than the electric company for usage that I suspect isn't even accurate (or truthful based on my discussions with them). If you're considering them as a new customer, I sincerely suggest avoiding them at all costs and tell their salespeople that you read reviews on legitimate sources like this suggesting you tell them to take a hike with their sales pitch.

I am very disappointed in the lack of actual customer service from this company. They are all smiles and friendly until they get their system on your roof; then "poof", you can't get any help. We chose not to sign on for the auto-debit payments because we were concerned about giving access to our account. We were assured by our SALESman that we would receive an invoice and we could pay online. No invoice received, called SALESman, he referred us to customer service. No response from customer service. No invoice. Repeat call to customer service. They'll "look into it". Surprise! No callback. Guess what we get? A COLLECTIONS NOTICE. Thank you very much, SunRun.
Now we are dealing with a Collections Guy. No problem, we've been trying to pay FOR FIVE MONTHS. Ask the guy nicely if we can get the late payment charges waived, he says "no problem!". We go ahead and pay the back charges AND set up auto-debit. So, in October, an extra $96 gets taken out of our checking account. Okay, guess The Collections Guy was wrong about it being "no problem!". Nice to be notified. November comes, and in addition to my regularly scheduled payment ANOTHER $96 goes out to Sunrun. Why? That's what we asked. Nobody knows. Nobody can connect us with billing. Nobody can call us back. Ah, then we have December. In December, Sunrun helped themselves to an additional $192 out of our checking account.
So now, despite DAILY phone calls to "Customer Service" and The Collections Guy, requests to speak to some sort of Supervisor, and an email to the SALESman (had told him we would NEVER refer anyone to Sunrun; he offered to "help". Lol. Referred us to "Customer Service"...guess we were too stupid to have tried that!) Sunrun is still holding our money hostage and no one can seem to come up with an explanation. So, auto-debit is cancelled. I will not allow these people to steal from us any longer. I would not recommend this company to anyone. And I was so excited to get Solar...
Thanks for your feedback, Kathi. One of our goals for Sunrun is to be customer obsessed and clearly it sounds like this has not been your experience. A Specialist has sent you a private message. We would like to investigate this further and see what we can do to fix it. We have sent you a private message.

Sunrun's salesman was very good. He was very expressive about what the solar does, what Sunrun does, and was able to answer all the questions I had. I went with them because it doesn’t cost me anything. I switched to solar to get lower monthly costs and enrolling with Sunrun was not difficult at all. They did all the work. Everything was up and running after two months. I haven’t really had a full month’s premium yet but I think it's going to work well.

A Sunrun salesman came by and told me about solar panels and what the benefits were. We decided we’d go with it, although I originally didn’t want to, and we've been online since October 11th. Right now, we’re having an issue where the panels are producing and working according to the way they’re supposed to and I look at it from time to time, but my energy company, Duke Energy, is not getting the data or the net meter. So, we’re still getting our full bill from Duke Energy, which is about the amount I’m paying Sunrun.
We had the same situation last year and I told Sunrun that I got to pay Duke Energy because they’d turn me off if I didn’t. I was getting tired of paying both. I paid for them for my power bill to be reduced and it would be a great thing if it worked as it's supposed to. I wouldn’t purchase something that I really didn’t want or need, and if I’m not getting any benefit from the panels then it’s paying Sunrun for nothing. I’ve talked to the salesman about that and was also on the phone with someone from Duke Energy today to try to get it straightened out. The salesman tried to help me out so it’ll be a good thing if we ever get it straightened out. But right now, it’s a little frustrating.
Overall, the customer service all respond. My account manager has been out for a while and I had to call him every time I sent an email. He said he’s on leave till late January but other than that, everything was great. There was a young lady that filled in for him and she emailed me back and responded toward my concerns when I sent the email. But for what I’m getting the concerns, it’s not only on Sunrun. And the communication between Sunrun and Duke Energy is not that well right now.
Thank you for your communication, Walter. We understand how communication is key part in providing a wonderful customer care experience. A specialist has reached out regarding your account.

We already had solar in the past so, we were looking to replace our older panel. I'm a broker and I knew about Sunrun through ACN. They were great and very professional. They were also courteous and patient with us. The enrollment was a long process but their reps were very helpful. We were working through the details needed in a very busy time frame, so it took a while. Our installation team were fabulous, too. Before we initially set the date to install it, they told me that I had to clear out my attic. I have eight kids, no closets, and there was 20 years worth of stuff out there. But it was a project that I needed to get done and I completely cleared it out, which they weren't expecting. So, the install went really fast.
I'm curious to see how it all looks after a year and I want to know when my utility company would do my true-up based on the date that I started solar. I thought it was going to cover more of my bill because it was unclear. But I know that Sunrun would true-up and we'd cover 84%. In fact, I just talked to them yesterday about understanding payment and what does it actually cover. They were very good.

This company has been impossible to deal with. We had solar panels installed on our roof 2 years ago. Our system never produced even nearly what was promised by the fast talking salesperson. We pay $100/month and get absolutely NO benefit. The customer care department promises to fix the problem and in 2 years time, our electric bills have continued to rise. We did this to save money, not spend extra. I'm at the point where we are ready to take legal action against this company. Calls go unreturned. Emails go unreturned. Promises are made. Someone - not us, that's for sure - is gaining something from the panels. I want them off of my roof!!!

I’ve been doing solar energy for the last 20 years. When we moved to Colorado from Illinois, that was foremost on my mind as this would be a better place for it. A neighbor told us about Sunrun and we had Namaste as the installer. They sold the system and Sunrun did the leasing. The process was pretty easy and we got quite a better deal than if we would have started it at a later date.
But we were very poorly treated by their customer service. We had an inverter that failed and it took almost a month for it to get repaired. Sunrun, although they have an installation group and they have an office in Westminster, they said they couldn't service it and we had to have one vendor do it. He said that should I expect to hear from them in three to five days. I told them everything about the problem. They came out and inspected it and said they'd have to order a converter.
I was dumbfounded as I could not understand why that was not something that would be in stock. It took another three weeks for them to get the inverter. They said they couldn't give me an idea when it would come because it could be two weeks or two months. I was very disappointed with that. That was a year ago. But after it was installed, it’s been working fine. I would have liked to have added some more panels and that would be a whole new contract with a second inverter. We should have probably have ordered more panels when we did it to begin with, but I didn’t understand at that time that I couldn't enlarge the system without a separate inverter and going through the whole thing again.
The other thing I didn’t know that could be done with the panels was each panel to be isolated from all the others so they wouldn't give that shade. It wouldn't degrade the production from the rest of them. That was something I didn’t understand. Perhaps in 2011, that wasn’t even an option. But for 16 panels, it's doing about as good as it can for the panels that we got back in 2011. Our system performs as advertised. It's about half of our usage. The Sunrun generation has been about 4,100 to 4,200 kilowatts hours per year. Our usage is just about double that. I'd recommend Sunrun but with the exception of the service department. I was not pleased at all with how we were treated there.
Thank you for contacting us, Paul. We want to make sure that our customers are always receiving great customer service. You feedback is greatly appreciated. A specialist has reached out to you regarding your concerns.

We were new in our area and had Trinity Solar come up at our door. They told us about solar panels and had them all put up. Things have been great since the installation and I feel like we make more solar than we actually use. Last month, our electric bill was $11. Sunrun administered the program. It was easy enrolling with them but the entire process took about five months which was a little bit long.
Then, I had to call their customer service. They administered the bill but never got it delivered. Then we got a second bill saying, “Past due!” I told them the situation and how we had already been enrolled in automatic draft. I even called them to say that I didn’t have a bill yet. They told me it was being processed but apparently, it just wasn't delivered. They took my bank account information again and drafted the payment that I needed. The lady understood where I was coming from and why I was angry and annoyed. But still, they’re a good company. They just have to stay on top of their billing process and make their website a little more user-friendly.
We are so grateful for your feedback, Lane. We certainly focus on your experience by maintaining competency, and professionalism all throughout. Thank you for helping us create a planet run by the sun. Power Forward!

Sunrun offered a program that would lower my bills for 50 bucks a month. Also, I didn’t have to put anything out of my pocket and I am on a 20-year program which I can renew at the end of 20th. The enrolment went well but I was trying to get them to paint the existing stuff to match the house for HOA purposes and I wound up having to do it myself. They said one thing and turned around and didn’t do it then.
Primera Solar, one of Sunrun's sub-contracting companies, did the installation. At that time, Sunrun said they’ve had so many installations and they had to use other companies to help get the job done. Even though it was all Sunrun product that was being used, I asked the guy who did the installation of the meter boxes. HOA requires that they match the house and not stick out like a sore thumb and he said I can paint them but not until after I’ve been inspected and the main meter has been installed. So after I had the main meter installed, I checked with my local Sunrun person and he said they would get it accomplished. But after a couple of weeks, there was no accomplishment and so, I kept checking on it and finally the rep said, it was out of her hands.
I had to go to the main Sunrun company and in doing so, I was told that the painting should’ve been done at the time of the installation. I told them that the installation wasn’t done by Sunrun. And the rep said the paint had to be supplied and had to be done at the time of the installation. My neighbor who was a referral from me wound up with Sunrun installing his and they painted all of his stuff, which was what sort of got me. I got tired of messing with it. They keep saying that it was policy. They should have somebody at the other end not say they would do it, and they would call and have it taken care of, and nothing happens.
Thank you for your feedback, Joe. A specialist has sent you a message regarding your request to get your meter painted. Please respond so that we can get this resolved for you.
