I was excited to go solar for all of the obvious reasons. It started out great as the rep seemed very knowledgeable. I was told repeatedly that Sunrun did not want my money and that they would pay for everything! My initial contract was acceptable and what I was looking for in a company. Then the deception came in. All of a sudden the rep was in a big hurry to come by real quick to get me to sign something he forgot even though I told him I was not available. He repeatedly called and said he was in my neighborhood and it would only take a minute.

Evidently, it was a revised contract he was in a hurry to get me to sign. He explained that because I had a ac unit on my roof and some other stuff up there that they could only put up so many panels. Do most homes in NV have all that on their roofs? So I believe it was just a marketing strategy to get potential customers signed up.

Next, I was told I needed a roof repair and they would pay for everything. But that was not true. I was told it did not cover my needed repair. So I'd have to come out of pocket over 3k. I asked the rep to put the job on hold until further investigation but he forgot and the job started without my knowledge. Again, when I questioned the rep I was given many untruths. He said I had over 2k square feet to cover but then I found out they only replaced the regions where the panels were being placed.

I requested a work order from the roofer and Sunrun repeatedly but never received it! I made many requests to Sunrun by phone and email but I was never responded to by anyone. I intend to contact Costco and perhaps the media to complain. So in all I had problems with the rep, the roofer not completing the job the first time, the installation of critter guards took many requests, and now my system doesn't produce the kilowatts as promised. I'm overall a dissatisfied customer!!!!

Thank you for your communication, Ramona. We are very disappointed to hear of your dissatisfaction. It sounds like the changes that were made to your agreement and the roof work needed to continue your project had not been explained as thoroughly as they should have been and that can certainly lead to expectations not being met. Sunrun reps make promises that are not honored in writing. Do not trust the reps; read the fine print - all 25 pages of your contract! It took over six months for my panels to get designed, approved and installed. I have had them for almost a year and they haven't worked twice. The first time they were down for about a week. Now my panels haven't worked in two months. I didn't get notice of them not working. I only knew they weren't working when I received a large energy bill. Apparently, Texas has one technician because when I called Sunrun I was told that the technician that was scheduled to come out didn't because he was ill. Yet I have been billed for non working panels for two months! They claim that I will get a credit if my panels don't generate the energy that is guaranteed but I have to wait another year. What kind of bull is that?

We did a lot with Sunrun on the phone and everybody was considerate, except the installation wasn't clear to me. I knew they would put a drawing in. They were gonna place the unit in front of the house and I approved it not knowing what an eyesore it would be. I didn't realize it was big since I did not visually see it. It was on paper. I complained and Sunrun quickly fixed that problem, so I appreciate that. They were responsive when we had issues.

Renting our solar maybe was the wrong thing, but at the time my husband figured out renting was okay. The price seemed better for what we got. But we didn't do it to save money. We wanted to do it because of the environment. Part of it would come out in saving, but it would be all the same because we're doing clean energy. We still have to go through PG&E. You have to pay them. It might have been less expensive if we owned it, but I'm not sure. It's fine. I'm not worried about it.

We worked with Sunrun at the Inland Empire Area and they were really great. When the ball started going, it rolled pretty quickly. They offered the battery whereas the other companies that I spoke with said, "No, they're not good enough," and "No, we don't carry them." What's the point of having solar if you don't have the battery backup. So we went with Sunrun. They also gave us less hassle and we enjoyed working with them.

With the first installation, they knocked it out within just a few hours. I was really surprised at how quickly it went. Their customer service team was also great. The neighbor boy threw rocks and broke one of our panel. So, I contacted them, because we got up there to rinse down the panel, and they sent somebody out right away. They said, "It's not interfering with your system but we're gonna have someone come check." They replaced it right away. They never gave us a problem. Everybody has been great. I always recommend Sunrun to a friend.

They did send one out and he said he was going to get it repaired. That was 2 months ago. They have never contacted me or given me an update. I have called customer service and was told. "We will call you back with an update." Never happened. My opinion of SunRun is that they are horrible. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. Even more concerning is that when the tech was out. He told me that my system was registered to someone in California. WHAT?? I have not been receiving my power credit. At this point there is legal action that I will be pursuing. Sunrun owes me an explanation and I cannot get past their Customer Service to get an answer. BUYER BEWARE!

Someone said it was Sunrun that was the biggest supplier for the free solar initiative in Massachusetts which I looked into, and I went with them. When I first enrolled, the guys did not show up on time and when they did, they didn't think they could work for the day. It was not very impressive and I went for a whole heck of a lot of bad things with them in the beginning. I signed a contract for my whole home to be done, and they did two floors of my home and not the third. I was aggravated. So now, in order to get the full use of my Sunrun equipment, I have to pay out of pocket to have my third floor put on to a single breaker panel and have an electrician who is familiar with the photovoltaic system. It's gonna cost quite a bit so that has not yet happened.

Then recently, there's a piece of my equipment that has gone down, and as far as I know, everything's under warranty because it's their equipment. I called them to have it replaced and the rep I talked to told me that they would send it along to the department that I need to talk to and they would call me back within 24 to 48 hours. But they have not called me back yet and it's been two weeks. The customer service is lackadaisical and and I'm not 100% satisfied with Sunrun's service. But other than that, my experience with solar energy has been really good.

Everything he said was misinformation, no phone app, payment staying the same, energy savings, and warranties including production guarantee was all fabricated. Once we signed the contract the sales person never returned our calls again. Steer clear of this company, and warranties including production guarantee was all fabricated. Thank you for your communication, Nathan. We are disappointed to hear that you feel misled by the sales rep you had been working with. All the things that you listed that you felt were fabricated, are all things that are included in nearly all of our Sunrun agreements. We do have a mobile app for all of our customers, many of our customers experience no increase to their monthly Sunrun bill and see savings in energy costs as a result. And equipment warranties and a performance guarantee are all standard in any of our lease/PPA customer agreements. Don't do business with Sunrun. The installation was lengthy and was done wrong, the power company had to come THREE times until they gave us the permit. Sunrun owes me $500 for fees. I had an electrician, it has been months and they have not reimbursed me. They are arrogant company with ZERO consideration. Monthly payment by credit card is assessed $7.50 penalty. You can either send a check by US post (Who does that anymore) and not get penalized OR you can do an automatic bank draft. The problem is that you have no say when they withdraw the money, they are unwilling to change the date to meet their customer's financial timing. I say, screw them, go with Tesla or anybody else. DON"T DO BUSINESS WITH SUNRUN, I WARNED YOU. I found NO redeeming qualities in my dealing with them.

The enrollment process of Sunrun is a piece of cake. The program coordinator from Phoenix was a really good guy which made the job easy. Also, I discussed the market with the customer service. I asked the rep previously to add me 14 panels, predicting the future that I will use more electricity than I was before. But he was buying time. Even though I don't use the electricity, I only get $10 or $5 APS credit. He just considered only bachelor life, but what if I fully start a full-scale living life which means day and night, children or wife or myself is there, AC, the heater is running, all the dryer, washers, 24/7 around the clock. At that point, I need more electrical consumption. I told him to do this but he still didn't take it into account. I told him I did my research on other companies and that they provide 10 kilowatts for a certain amount of money. I said told him that it's a free market and he can take it or leave it. Also, my payment used to be $74 and I'm quite not sure if Sunrun did the adjustments for the new bill. Other than that, my experience with Sunrun has been good.

I did my homework and I checked with everybody else. Then I bought my Sunrun system through Costco. Everything was A-plus from that time to the installation, until it got it up and running. It went official some time late December of last year. I put a really big system because we have a full six-bedroom home. Also, I’m retired now and I like to weld, so I wanted something big. Bottom line, I got almost 40 panels with two inverters. I got a battery, too and I spent a lot of money, almost 60,000.

But a couple months ago, I noticed that one of the inverters was really hot and was giving me an error code. Since I used to work for the power company, I’m not the type of a homeowner that just puts something and is totally oblivious. Every morning, I check my inverter and what's my power production. So, when I noticed that the inverter started getting hot, I tried calling Sunrun. Then all of a sudden, I heard a big pop. So, the technician called me back and told me to shut it down. Long story short, he came back and said that it completely blew up the inside. He also said that there were fragments of some board. But it’s all brand-new equipment. So, he said they were gonna order me a new one. So far, it's over a month already and they're still waiting on the inverter through the warranty because the system is all warrantied for 10 years.

I have a number for a claim and I’ve called them time after time. They told me that they’d be calling me but I got no call. I’m in San Diego, California and we had a heat wave here for a while, so there was a lot of humidity. It was really bad, so we ran our air conditioner and it was at the highest peak when I needed my solar working. But since the inverter went bad, I have half a system.

Finally, I called last week and said that I gotta talk to somebody way up there. Enough is enough and I need to get some resolution. At least somebody should call me, enlighten me, and tell me that’ll be fixed pretty soon. They said they'd email the senior service manager and he’d be calling me. But two weeks had gone by and still no call. So, I called him and left him a message in his cell phone, but he’s out at Colorado.

I was talking to my wife and I said that I gotta go talk to Costco. They won’t allow Sunrun to sell through them and it’s Costco’s reputation. I gotta do what I gotta do. Also, I got ahold of the technician and he said there was another guy ahead of us and his inverter was down for three months. Finally, they were able to let him grab a brand-new one from new installations, but from a warranty stuff, so he took a new one and installed it. And I was the next one in line. He also said that he was pushing to try to get me a new one, but it was not up to him. It’s up to the manager.

The worst thing about it is my square-up is gonna be in December and we’re in October already. And the highest peak was when I was using my AC. So, I tried telling Sunrun when I called them that they have to reimburse me. Somebody said that if you’re leasing, you'd get reimbursed, but I’m buying off the system. In fact, I’m almost done paying that off. As soon as they installed it, I waited a couple of months. I refinanced it and I gave 45,000. And I’ve been sitting on the remaining balance, but I was told not to pay it off because then they won't reimburse me. But I don’t even know if they're gonna reimburse me.

I have also recommended a couple of people to Sunrun. But I won't do that anymore. I’m very unhappy because a senior service rep doesn’t even take the time to call me and I left him all sorts of messages. And when I called the 1-800 number, I was told that they emailed him and this and that. They said he should be calling me but nobody called me. I’m very dissatisfied. If that guy or anyone would've called me and said that they were working on it or they will next week, it would be different. But they're not even flat-out trying and they're irresponsible.

After having solar installed by Sunrun my roof started to leak. The man came out and patched the roof. No receipt and nothing in writing was given as to what he did. I explain that it is leaking in the same exact spot and I was then told again they never repaired anything. So for 2 yrs I have not had a leak when they did no repair? I don’t think so. I believe the patch the man did has now been compromised and needs to be patched again. But if they never stated there was a problem the first time then it falls under you getting a roofer. To have another source of energy and to reduce my energy bill, I switched over to Sunrun. Having solar reduced my power bill and I'm pleased with it. Ever since I had the solar put in, I made a spreadsheet that tells me the kilowatt-hours used, the kilowatt-hours produced, and the difference. August of ‘16 is the first month I have. August 2016 versus August 2017, I used more kilowatt-hours but it produced quite a bit more.

September of 2016, I produced 961 solar kilowatt-hours. September of 2017, I only produced 732 and September 2018, 401. It went lower, but it could have been a cloudy month. September of this year has been the best September. 11 months in the past three years, I've produced more solar than I used and any extra I produce goes into the Duke Energy grid. Although Duke Energy doesn't pay me for it, they carry it over to the next month and just keep carrying it over. I eventually end up using it all, but there have been a few months when I've only paid the $9 minimum.

I believe that Sunrun should be more upfront as to the cost of solar panel removal if you should need a new roof or repairs. I have leased the panels from Sunrun for 8 years and recently realized I needed a new roof. Sunrun informed me it would cost $5000 to remove and put back the panels. I was shocked but had no choice. It took them less than one hour to remove the panels and two workers a little over a day to replace the panels. They told me I would need new frames for the panels. Unfortunately when they remove the panels they left wires hanging and didn’t seal things properly.

After the new roof was finished the roof inspector refused to approve the roof because of the sloppy job Sunrun had done in removing the panels. Took three tries before he would approve the roof. They assured me they would remove all the old forty foot frames and old hardware. Six weeks later and two emails this junk still sits in my backyard with zero response from Sunrun. One of the worst companies to deal with and if my experience is an indication I can’t see how this company can last long term.

I am extremely disappointed with Sunrun Solar. I had my solar panels installed about 2 years ago and now have a huge pigeon infestation problem. Pigeons are nesting under the solar panels and have left droppings all over my roof, back yard, cars, garage, shed, patio and front driveway! It has become a huge health hazard. After reading my contract, it does not say pigeons are excluded from the damage coverage. I was never informed prior to signing the contract that pigeons would ever or could possibly be a problem.

After reporting this to Sunrun, they sent out a field rep to inspect and he told me he would recommend that Sunrun repair it as my system was not working at all the entire month of July! I called Sunrun to follow-up and they said that he said he did not report that he would recommend Sunrun to pay and they said it was not going to be paid for by Sunrun. I am extremely disappointed at the unethical practices occurring and the lack of responsibility that Sunrun has to take care of customers knowing the solars caused this problem and I do not own them! Now I have to pay almost $2,000 out of my own pocket to clean this huge mess up. Oh and by the way, they also did not reimburse me for the months my system was not working due to the pigeons. I will see you in court Sunrun!

System was installed 8-2018. 4-2019 roof started to leak or was first noticed 5-2019. After water saturated insulation and began to leak through the ceilings, on a roof Sunrun had installed. Called customer service to get repaired. Was told someone would contact me. After several calls to Sunrun where nobody knows anything, I was finally contacted in 8-2019. Roofer came out to look and was told that some panels had to be removed for repair. Gave Sunrun info on what one to be removed. It took Sunrun 2 weeks to do that.

Roofer came back for work only to see all the right panels were not removed. He tried to contact Sunrun all day to get somebody out so they could do their job. 2 weeks later Sunrun finally came out. Roof was finally finished. Now I still have panels in my backyard and I got a text they cannot reinstall until 10-24 2019. The panels don't work on the ground. Everybody apologizes but nothing gets done until they good and ready. Paying for system that is not fully functional. But after install you are on your own. I am a lease customer of Sunrun solar panels. I was a victim of the door to door sales guy. He was very convincing and told me everything I wanted to hear. I had raised some concern about getting them before I had my roof replaced and he said that they are leased, so in order to avoid me paying some random guy to come remove them, that the company does, he said I just needed to call when I was ready and schedule it. He said there is no charge for this, as long as it was for roof repairs. He also told me that if I ever sold the house, the lease was transferable. If by chance the new owners didn't want them, the lease would terminate at closing. Both of these turned out to be a lie.

I'm looking at having to pay $5600 to get them removed temporarily, and there is a 45 day lead time needed to get someone out here. My roof is damaged. My roof needs replace. 45 days puts us in the middle of winter. I've never felt so wronged before in my life. The terms in the contract that state I have to pay for this removal and replacement, is hidden in the middle of a paragraph marked exclusions. Please, do not use this company. I originally had solar installed at my home by a company call Suncrest who went out of business shortly after they installed my system. I have been talking to Sunrun who took over my contract for over a year now. I am not generating enough energy to accommodate what we use in the home. This is causing me to have to pay a big fee to my electric company every year. I have called Sunrun on many occasions to inquire about getting more panels added to my system. I kept getting turned over to other people that couldn't help me.

Eventually, I got someone on the phone that wanted to do a savings analysis to see what electricity I use in a twelve month period. This meant paying my electric company to give me the last 12 months of my invoices. I did that and was told that a 2nd system was warranted. I said I didn't want a 2nd system. I wanted panels added to my existing system. In my contract it states that panels can be added to my system at my request at no charge to me. I was then told that someone would get back to me. Nobody ever did. I got tired of calling and asking them when someone would get back to me and gave up.

I then got another expensive bill from my electric company last month and decided to call them again. Well after going through 4 people I finally get connected to a guy that tells me that they cannot put panels on my roof because they do not have an agreement with my electric company to install panels in Modesto, Ca. where I live. I said, "Then you need to find someone that does and farm the work out to them." He then tells me that he cant do that and the only thing that can be done is for me to find a solar company in Modesto to add a 2nd system. I told him that wasn't my job and that he should be doing that. He said the only thing they were responsible for was maintaining the system that I already have. I said that is not what my contract states and he said that is what the contract he has states. He would not fax me a copy of the contract.

I finally told him that I needed to end the call because it was just upsetting me more and more every time he said, "We are only responsible for maintaining the system you already have." I pulled my contract out and re-read it. I then called the company again and told the lady on the phone about the conversation I had with the guy last week and that I have my contract in front of me. It clearly states that they will add more panels at my request at no charge to me.

Of course she said they couldnt do that. Her reasoning was that their panels were custom made and my panels are different. She said they would have to add another system and my roof would have to be able to hold at least 10 more panels. I told her that I didn't think it could hold that many more panels. I said, "Are you going to send someone out here to see if it will hold that many panels." She said no that they want to do another analysis to see if a 2nd system is warranted. That means I will have to go back to my electric company and pay for 12 more invoices for them to tell me that they cant do it because my roof wont handle that many panels. I also stated to them that I felt they were in breach of contract because they cant honor what my contract states. I said that they need to cancel my contract if that cant help me and they said they cannot do that because it is a 20 year contract.

Although my sales person was very nice, I was not able to include storage batteries as had wanted at the time of purchase (was told by my salesperson that SUNRUN did not have storage batteries the time, but could be added later). Installation of panels went well, but without storage batteries my ~ 40 panel system ends up generating excess electricity for the Electric Co. who sells it back to me for my evening usage (so my monthly bills have not gone down as much as hoped even after my substantial investment cost for the system).

Tried to get storage batteries later, but was told SUNRUN now has storage batteries, but will not install them to their existing installed system (only will install with new package installations)?! Also, that if batteries were added after initial installation, tax exemptions would not apply. Had I known all this at the time of purchase, I would have waited until SUNRUN storage batteries were available. Greatly appreciate your assistance to fixing this problem as soon as possible. It already took about a month to get the technicians visit scheduled so we are looking at ~2-3 months to fix something that Sunrun caused - not ideal.

We finally head back after numerous phone calls and emails and was told we would have to pay a $75 fee to have someone come out and take a look. It’s ridiculous. We asked about this issue before the panels were installed and we were assured it wouldn’t be an issue. I got Solar system installed by Sunrun. I met with their representative in Costco. I love Costco and assumed that they would partner with a good company but I was wrong. During the installation, they were rough and broke many tiles and did not bother to let me know. I found out about it when I asked another company to install a mesh around the panels to keep pigeons away. It took several follow ups to have them come and fix the broken tiles. Again, my bad. I assumed that they would fix all the tiles. But I was wrong again. They did not fix all the tiles. In fact one tile is missing from the roof.

I open a ticket again. The assigned person calls me and leaves a voicemail stating that Sunrun is not responsible for it because these tiles are not close to the panels. She did not even bother to speak with me before closing the ticket. If someone could explain to her that installers will need to access the roof not from the tiles under the panels but other tiles. What a silly excuse and great example of horrible customer service. I would not recommend Sunrun to anyone.

My words of advice for any homeowner wanting to sign a lease with Sunrun is to make sure you complete your home remodel before you have them install your panels! Read below: My wife and I were referred to Sunrun 2 1/2 yeas ago by a work colleague of mine. We had just purchased our home, knowing full well that we would be remodeling the house in 1-2 years. When I spoke with the Sunrun sales agent he informed us this would be no problem, and would cost us $150 to take the panels off and reinstall them. We were stunned at low cost, and were obviously thrilled. We signed a lease and 23 panels were installed without a hitch. The service technicians were great and it was easy to work with Sunrun. We enjoyed the benefits of the lease, and felt great we were helping the environment.

Fast forward 2 years and we are ready to completely remodel our home and we needed the panels taken off the roof temporarily (for 6-9 months). This is when the trouble began. It was obvious this was something Sunrun was not eager to make easy for us.

    1) It took us forever (more than a month) to get someone from Sunrun Customer Care to acknowledge our request. Keep in mind, we have a big home remodel and were approaching the point where Sunrun's delays were potentially going to delay our home remodel (which means more cost to us).
    2) When we finally were able to track someone down through a local Sunrun office we were then told it would cost us $150 PER PANEL to take them down and store them.
    3) We were told there would be a redesign and reinstallation fee. Total cost for removal, storage, redesign, and reinstallation is now going to cost us $7375! We had no choice but to agree since we are not in the position to purchase the system outright as of yet, and we needed to proceed with our home remodel.

    4) We are now at the point where we can proceed with reinstallation, but have been told we have no authority on making inputs on the redesign. Bear in mind we had 5 days to make comments on the original design of the system (our only request was no panels on the front of the house). We have now been told that we have been in "violation of our agreement" with Sunrun because of our home remodel and as a result Sunrun can breach their agreement and are within their rights to place the panels back on our home's roof wherever they want to maximize energy production. This is obviously baloney, and I will likely be contacting our estate attorney as well as the news media if this becomes a real issue.

Had we known all of this would become a major issue we would have simply waited to sign a lease until after our home remodel. We were misled by our original Sunrun sales agent. My words of advice for any homeowner wanting to sign a lease with Sunrun is to make sure you complete your home remodel before you have them install your panels!

The first year of service I received $900.00 credit from the utility company. The second year I broke even. The third year, they had to change panels and I was receiving bills from the utility company. They said panels were faulty and eventually all panels needed to be changed. The forth year I installed two Tesla batteries. The same person who sold me the Sunrun package sold me the Tesla Package.

After installation both companies agreed that the panels needed to be changed. Now 3 of the 4 inverters are completely shut off, it does not work. Sunrun is now claiming the batteries are the cause. I've told them how can that be? Your system is 75% shut down (breaker off). Now I have bills of over $300 a month. Luckily I have 2 Tesla batteries on the system. Bill was over $800 per month before the photovoltaic system. It's been close to 8 months now. Nothing is being done. I'm am now seeking legal advice. I paid $60k for a SunRun installation in 2015 after researching Solar City and two other local providers. SunRun botched the install and had to move the solar array twice before getting it right with the city permit requirements. This has caused ongoing leakage in my roof due to the extra mounting holes and foot traffic on my roof...never resolved by SunRun. They also left an entire section of the 58 panels in non working order after the install. I discovered this myself after having to install the monitoring equipment with no response or support from SunRun. This cost me several months of lower power generation and I had to 'negotiate' a make-good with SR later, after an unending process in trying to get any response.

The worst part is now (a few years later), I have logged several trouble cases online with absolutely no response. I have a non-working panel that yet again I discovered myself - The DO NOT MONITOR - at least in my case, and I'm trying to make contact to find out the process for having the panels removed so I can replace my roof (leakage above now causes me to replace my entire roof). I'm a professional C-Level executive here in Northern California, so I understand customer experience and service. I have truly never experienced anything close to this total lack of service, response, or empathy for the issues they've caused and the time they have cost me. A little over 2 years ago I purchased a new home. I had considered solar and a Sunrun rep came knocking on my door one day offering a system that would reduce my power bill by 97% with no money down and low monthly lease rates. This all sounded great but the system the salesman tried showing me first was like 4 or 5 solar panels. I voiced my concerns that it wouldn't generate enough power and he came back some time later with a 10 panel system and said that I would be set.

After the system was installed, I was paying MORE with Sunrun on my house than going with only NV Energy...I was shocked and dismayed. I got a lesson in solar and how it works from NV Energy and they informed me just two months after having Sunrun installed, is too small to offset my power bill by any significant amount. I called Sunrun right away to voice my concerns and they told me that couldn't do anything for me until I hit the 1 year mark to do a "Savings Analysis"....

It's been over a year and the system saved me $26.83 for the whole year, next year the amount of the lease goes up and I will save absolutely nothing and as the Sunrun lease goes up in price every year, I will be PAYING to have Sunrun on my home for 20 years. Keep in mind that my power bill WITH a solar rate was $1,227.11 for the year and saving 97% of that does not equal out to be $26.83. According to Sunrun's "Savings Analysis" they feel that they have fulfilled their end of the contract (a contract that I did not sign I have to mention). They "make no claims of saving customers money" and the customer has no recourse or action.

The representatives from Sunrun were deceptive from the beginning, their Customer Service is not committed to helping their customers and unless you know everything about solar before talking to them, they will take advantage of you by talking you into a system that will not have a significant impact on your power for 20+years. I would say steer clear of Sunrun, because deceptive business practices, forgery and an unwillingness to make things right.

    Savings

    Reviewed Aug. 16, 2019

We had our panels installed back in 2012. For the first two years the savings were obvious due to the tax breaks and rebates. But since then I've not been convinced that we have been saving money by having solar panels. Finally, I decided to do a savings analysis (a little leg work collecting a year's worth of power bills and sending them to Sunrun to analyze). It turned out we were paying MORE per kilowatt hour with Sunrun than we would just be paying the utility for the same power. Sunrun will not do this analysis for you, you MUST request it and do the legwork. You'll never know unless you have it analyzed. It turns out that while if the panels underperform (which ours have underperformed every year) Sunrun will pay you back the difference due to a performance guarantee, however they do not have a SAVINGS guarantee.

As a courtesy, they did refund me that money I overpaid, but would not let me check to see how much I may have overpaid the last few years, and also told me they wouldn't be able to rebate me any overpayment from previous years. So each year going forward, I'll have the project of having Sunrun analyze my savings and hope that I'll get an overpayment rebate again. But this is NOT guaranteed. I'm worried that any future owner of our home will not want to deal with all this, and do we need to disclose to a new potential owner that the panels have underperformed and not saved any money over time? Not sure if this was our smartest decision, it's a headache.

First issue I had with Sunrun was that my roof tiles were damaged during the install. The Installation team did not inform me of this and when I went around to look at the installation, I noticed broken tiles. It took me constant follow up, escalation and emails to have the roof repaired in about 10 weeks. The second issue with that my System is "supposedly operational since last 8 weeks" however the production data is not yet available on my Sunrun Portal. Sunrun could not provide me with any clear answers as to when this issue will be resolved. As a company, Sunrun seems to be very bad at following up customer issues and there is no communications email or phone that follows when an issue is reported. I thought I would save some money with solar energy but that is not that true. There is very little savings. The difference is hardly $15 on an average each month and that's it. Enrolling with Sunrun was very easy except I have one concern. I have a sunroom in the back side so when it snows, the snow would slide. They did put the snow guard type thing so it would kind of hold the snow, but what happened was they installed it only on one side which is the longer side. I didn't realize that until last winter when the snow was gliding. It glided so hard on the sunroom roof. On other side where the panels are, they attempted to do that but they didn't finish the job. They installed one hook and but they didn't install the other hook. It's a very easy thing to do and I don't know why they didn't do that.

I would appreciate if Sunrun can manage to get it done because here in Jersey, sometimes it snows a lot and if a lot of snow falls on the top of this sunroom roof which is a glass roof, it can break. That something is still my concern and that needs to be fixed by Sunrun. That was my initial condition. I even had an email conversation that they have to put something for snow before they run the panels, before Sunrun and I signed the contract. They gave me the email and said that yes, that will be done. They did it, but they didn't finish the whole thing. After I complained, Sunrun said they will inform the person who installed and they will arrange when the weather improved. That time was wintertime. The weather has improved and summer is almost gonna be over now, and still nothing is done. Nobody even called me.

The other concern is they could have put some more panels and created some more coverage. If they had put some more panels and covered a little bit more energy, then it could have been better. The third one is was told that Sunrun was gonna come up with a battery where I can store the energy for a week or two and I believed in that. They also told me that they would use my house as a test so the cost for me would be very, very minimal. But now, nothing happened. They don't call me to put the battery. It's like it was just talk.

Was a smooth fast talking salesman and lied about a service which we are NOT Getting for one. Also to the fact when we first signed up there was for the year SUNRUN did a usage evaluation ONLY ONE PERSON LIVING HERE FULL TIME as I worked away all week 400 miles away coming home ONLY 1 1/2 DAYS A WEEK. So to say Electric usage that year they used for a usage assessment was VERY LOW compared to the next year when there is and was 3 people home 24 - 7 and 4 at times....

I asked many times to have a proper usage adjustment made and has never been done. 2nd, the Company Sunrun had to install the solar system Horizon, did faulty wiring and not to color code as to be and was in fact verified by one of Sunrun's techs that have come one time also to notice and which I have pictures of burnt the wires in a Control Box and could have burnt our home very easy. 3rd, just to get by a county inspection the Installers placed 2ea Ground rods in the ground, but having trouble doing so, cut both rods less than 2 foot long to stick in ground taking pictures to send County Inspector to get the Permits they needed.

4th, have made multi complaints on record to the fact That everyday between 2:30 and 3PM in full sunlight over our Home and Solar producing OVER 6000 + Kwh and yet not using any additional items than have been using all day the Solar goes off grid, back to paying EDISON and this has been a daily happening from day one and have complained many many times. Always getting a runaround from people at Sunrun talked to and said is an Edison thing... BS, I have a Edison manager, lives 4 houses from me, installed his own Solar system and he has told me He Produces Solar from Daylight to dark and only, uses a little of Edison power during the night hours which is very minimal.

Last year and end of year having a year's solar power which to say had a 100% Solar System installed 28 panels I had to pay Edison just under $1000.00 year end over and above the high monthly payments to Sunrun for a 100% System.... This year a few months ago the year end to Edison was just over $200 so was not complaining but if the light of full all day sun now past few months the Edison year end keeps going up and up. Just under $500 now aside from a small monthly bill on top and we do not, use anything other than what we have always used period.

But if I paid 6,200 or 6,300, I can claim that so financially, it was the right decision to go solar.

Enrolling with Sunrun was good. However, when they installed some online connection so I don’t have to take a reading and I can see on my computer, that didn’t work well. It was giving wrong information so now, I take manual reading and report. Once I reported it to the 2 companies that were involved, the company who own those panels and the company who runs it, they never responded. Other than that, I'm happy with Sunrun. And so, that was a concern, that I knew I was gonna have a higher electric bill. And since I work from the home, my electric bill is higher than it would've been had I not worked out of the home. The enrollment experience that I had with Sunrun was excellent. I went with them because of the leasing arrangement and the fact that I don't own the equipment, which means at the end of the lease, which is 20 years, I don't have it anymore, and I don't have to insure it on my home. So if there are any repairs to that kind of thing, that was a critical factor to me. But customer service was very good. I always had my questions answered correctly and as fast as they could be. I was very pleased.

I also get a bill every now and then, 7 bucks. But before, it was steadily climbing. I also knew that SDG&E was gonna be raising their rates and the tax consequences were very appealing. So that's what kept the least amount there. But as far as installing it on another property, I would hesitate because the lease payment might be a detraction if you were selling a property.

I have been looking for a solar energy service for many years because I never saved money on electricity. Since the rates have gone down, we decided to try it. A friend of mine had Sunrun installed at her house and she was happy with them so I signed up. Sunrun's customer service has always been good. I have a couple of things that I didn't quite understand as I signed up (which I knew was gonna happen) so I was a little bit disappointed about that, but it’s been okay. It was easy to sign up. However, the monthly charge is too expensive. Now that I really understand how it all works, it’s a little bit more than what it should be and I don't like that part. My bill is not discounted in the winter and I don't like that, either. I paid the same price as I always paid. It’s much higher. I have talked to Sunrun and have been evaluated, and it sounds like that’s just the way it is. If Sunrun's rates were lower, it wouldn’t be so bad.

The Sunrun guy gave us a better deal compared to Tesla so we went with him because he was in Phoenix, we were in Tucson. And they also seem more secure with their company.

Enrolling with them was very easy. We did it that same day. The rep was polite, accommodating, and he made us feel like we were not purchasing something that we did not need. The installation was good. Everything happened while we were at work and they didn’t put us out in any kind of way. Everything happened really quickly. The only thing that took the longest amount of time was for the city of Tucson to do their inspection, which is not the fault of the company. It was Tucson taking its sweet time. Other than that, everything went smooth. And at the moment, everything seems very good. I would definitely recommend Sunrun.

I purchased a home with a Sunrun system in place. The previous owner paid the lease off so I get a huge discount on my electric bill for 17 years! That's great! The bad news now. I knew going in that the roof will need to be replaced. I am not a roofer but before the purchase I had a few roofers come out and look at the roof. They all agreed that the Sunrun panels should have never been installed on a 50 year old roof. Sunrun guarantees the roof be weather tight for 5 years. The panels have been on for less than 4 years, the roof leaks under the panels.

I am not seeking a free roof as I knew when we purchased the house that a new roof will need to be installed. I would like Sunrun to honor their guarantee signed in the contract. I would like Sunrun to remove the panels and replace after I have had the new roof installed. Their customer service in the worst I have ever dealt with. I cannot get a straight answer, I have to deal with an inexperienced service rep who every 2 minutes puts me on hold while they ask their supervisor whom I ask to speak directly. I am then put on hold indefinitely. I have emailed, no replies. I have opened a service call via their website, no replies.

I was interested in solar energy because electricity fees had been rising and I wanted to check into solar energy services as well. I saw Sunrun while walking through Costco. They sent their representative, and we decided to go for it. We went with them because of the Costco rebates and just being a Costco member and knowing that they would not have them at their store unless they really believed in them. It was a confidence thing.

The enrollment was very easy and very simple. And we had decent credit, so on the spot, they knew that we could qualify. The customer service always kept us informed, so we knew how we were progressing on the build and we knew what was going on. Right now, I’m very satisfied. The only qualifier is I have a home that has two AC units in it and we only use mostly one unless we have guests in our home. And right now, we’re gonna have guests long-term, so we’ll see how it works out, whether I end up paying Edison or not. But my wife and I usually live here by ourselves and I haven't had to pay an electric bill since it was installed. Sunrun is a good company. I got what I expected or what I was hoping for.

I’ve been a member of Costco for many years. Their quality is good, and normally, when they recommend someone, they stand behind that company. They also give incentives, so when I went with Sunrun, Costco gave me a cash card for $1,346. But that wasn’t the only reason I get it. I liked the program that Sunrun presented.

The salesperson was excellent, and he even came back after everything was installed and made sure because I sent an e-mail and said I was not sure I know if this was running correctly. So, he came out on his own time and took a look at that. I had to get a new roof and Sunrun paid for part of that. They paid $2,000 on it, but I was prepared. I knew I was just gonna have to do it. I had an option of just doing the portion where the panels where gonna go or do the whole roof. Our whole roof was bad, so I got all of that done. They were very good about that. And then I had to get a new electric panel and they paid for that entirely and it was an excellent company. And the roofer was excellent as well.

Everything went well for me. I understand how things work with contracting, and you have workers that come out. There was a brief delay in getting the last little piece done. But then, when I said something about it, they were right on it. That was like a supervisor thing and I don’t think that person is even with them anymore, but that’s how business works. They have people that work for them and they have to stay on top of it. I don’t sweat the small stuff. If there was a little delay because of a part, that kind of thing doesn’t bother me. The end result is what I’m interested in. And I actually financed, which I’m gonna get paid off very quickly. And Costco and Sunrun together arranged all of that, so for me, it was very painless. Everything went smoothly.

It did take a while to get everything done but that’s understandable because I had to get a new roof, and the inspector had to come out from the city for the electrical panel and he also had to come out for the solar. I bought the battery system to go with it. All that had to be inspected and you just have to be patient. It took like three months from the very start when I signed the papers until everything was in place. And then you gotta wait for the power company to okay it.

Overall, my personal experience was very good. I would recommend Sunrun to a friend. They have different programs. I am fortunate enough that my credit history is excellent so I was able to finance. Some people I know, they take an equity out on their home, which I could have done, but I didn’t want to do that. And I have a good income, so I can pay off the loan many years before the end of the loan.

I also liked the fact that we didn’t have to pay any rental fees. We’re just paying the delivery fee. Enrolling with Sunrun has been very easy. The installation was easy, too. There has been no upkeep or interruptions or anything. It just happens every month and we actually got a little refund check this year ‘cause we over-produced. The customer service representatives at Sunrun have been very good too. If I had questions, there was always somebody I could call to ask. We had a paperwork issue in the beginning, but I was able to get through to someone at corporate and they cleared it up for me.

It’s really important for our country and for our kids and future generation that everybody do what they can for the environment. This has been a significant piece of what our family does to try and make the future cleaner, and healthier, and better for everyone. Going solar actually inspired us to get a plug-in electric vehicle so it kind of helped us do even more in our little way. In the two years that we’ve had the car, we filled it up with gas 10 times. I broke pretty close to even receiving a small credit this year, at settle up I had to pay Edison an additional $600. I was told when they sold me the system that once a year they would send someone out to clean and service the panels at no cost.

So I call them because now I'm paying what I was paying Edison and they of course never heard of that and if they come out and check out my system and don't find a problem it will cost me $95. Sunrun came up with a good proposal when I called them, and their salesman, Jeremy, did a good job explaining things to me. Since the system was put in our experience has been good, except that we keep getting people here taking photos of the installation. There had been about three or four times that they came over and said that they lost the photographs, then they take pictures again. Last time, somebody came over and it happened that the electricity was cut off by the supplier, so they cannot turn it on.

My biggest problem, however, is that we lose the energy from the sun on a good sunny day because the provider of electricity is cutting it off every now and then. On a very nice day when the sun is out, the system is supposed to be producing about 60 kilowatt hours in the eight hours, but when they cut it off, it goes down to about 15-20 kilowatt hours during the day. In the beginning, when the salesman was talking to me about recovery of cost, I was sold on the idea of about six to seven years recovery. But with the decreased solar output, according to my data, it's now coming out that I will be able to recover the cost in about 13 to 14 years. So, that was my disappointment. It's a good investment and I'm happy, but I just never knew about the curtailment of things. And now, I'm looking at buying an electric car, so I hope I will be able to utilize more of the solar power to charge my electric car.

There was some type of tax benefit that we were looking into so we decided to go into solar energy services. We’ve had the solar panels since December last year and the installation went fine. They had to put a new roof on and then put the panels on, but it was completed relatively quickly.

We were told that the first time we get the bill, as the panels begin to work, our actual electricity bill would go from a bill to nothing. That did happen but we had a bill of $14 and then, we just had one for $33. So, we’re still evaluating whether or not what they said was true, because they assured us that on summer months, we would over produce to make up for the winter months when we don’t have as much daylight. Being in Texas, we have a little longer summer. I’m hoping that we don’t have too much of a bill but so far, the bill hasn’t exceeded 50 bucks. We were very surprised to have a bill because we thought we have produced enough to not have one. Still, we would recommend Sunrun.

Thank you for your review, Candice! We are thrilled to hear that you were able to take advantage of our partnership with Costco! It sounds like getting you up and running had moved quickly and smoothly. Post-solar utility billing does typically leave people with some questions. One thing to keep in mind is that when the sun is shining, you may get all of your energy from solar, but due to things like weather, winter, and nighttime, you will still have to buy some electricity from your utility. In addition, most utilities have unavoidable connection fees that solar is not able to affect. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at 855-478-6786. We wanted solar energy for the environment and we thought that it would help with the expenses. We had Sunrun put up the system in the summer of last year, and the installation went very smoothly. They also took care of everything for the enrollment. Since then, our monthly bills have been less, even though I’ve been running my air conditioner quite a bit lately. The system is working and we’re very happy.

I had been thinking about solar energy services for a while. Sunrun was coming through the neighborhood and knocked on our doors. The timing was just great and it sounded like a good deal. Some of my neighbors did it too. The enrollment process was fine and our experience with their reps was okay. Our questions were well-addressed until the very end. And I wanted to have a couple more panels put on. They were addressed okay, and it worked out fine. I'm very satisfied. My APS bill is way, way down. And our bill is just very steady. It's doing exactly what they said it would do.

A friend of mine was driving a Sunrun car and I thought he would give me a clean deal. But I don't think it was that clean of a deal because of the lack of the information. Sunrun didn't fully explained to me all of the financial ins and outs when I signed up to have solar on my house. It was kinda rushed and I wish I coulda just paid it all off and not have it leased. And then, they didn't put a new breaker box in, so my dryer stopped working. I called them my American Home Shield home repair people and they said that my dryer works, but there's no juice coming out of my little outlet. But the rest of my house had electricity. It was just the dryer because it consumes a lot of electricity. So I had to have Sunrun come out and readjust something, and it is working fine. It was hard to get to customer service. I had to leave a message and then they returned the call. But they were kind and gentle.

The enrollment process was smooth because it was just click here and then sign here. It was paperless. When Sunrun did the installation, they scraped the blue paint off of my wall. I have this antenna on my roof and the wire kinda got messed up, so they had to re-fix the wire. It's hanging, and my cats could get hung. I had to call my rain gutter people for that because they messed up the wire too. I'm saving money on my PG&E bill but the true-up bill is a little confusing. I wouldn't recommend Sunrun to a friend.

I've contacted them seven times and then I finally gave up. I don’t appreciate the way that their front office has handled this. It took long but it was still easier overall. The project coordinator did very well. They kept me informed. The email alerts were helpful as well. Everything was explained and done quickly. And the only delay had to do with just waiting for the county of Hawaii permit and also for Hawaiian Electric Light Company to approve the project. But on Sunrun's side, everything was fine.

Now, we are seeing the benefits of it. It took a while for the system to kind of adjust. So, we were paying more to HELCO than we were hoping, but that was consistently dropped. I've had my Sunrun panels for about 3 years now and up to this point it's been good. I financed the panels and two inverters because the whole leasing thing was very unclear. A few months ago though I realized my inverters were not working. I called and the customer service line and the lady pretty was nice and helpful, letting me know that my Sunrun had not received any system feedback from my system since November of 2018. So she sent out a tech to check out my system. They came out pretty quick, about a week and a half later. It turned out one of my inverters was bad and the other had failed when the one went down. The tech was able to reset the one that wasn't bad, great.

Almost a month went by and I had not heard anything regarding the failed parts replacement, this was an entire inverter that had to be replaced under warranty mind you. I had a hunch I was due to get a pretty big big from the power company, the true-up bill, I think they call it. Within a few days I had a bill notification form the power company for $1230. WOW! I called immediately to follow up on my failed inverted because basically I'm running on ONE inverter and at this point I realize the power company is charging me a premium for power and Sunrun finds no urgency to replace this thing fast enough. I called customer service again to request help with the $1230 bill and they said I didn't qualify for a "Performance Guarantee Credit" because I owned the system.

I also asked the Customer service people if the system goes down again how will I know, what trigger will I get to get this looked at immediately and not run on costly premium power? The customer service lady tells me that monitoring service is only done if you lease the system owned by Sunrun, not when you buy it. So I called the field service coordinator Jay ** and he returned my call but after playing phone tag for a while. He simply just setup another appointment by the tech to come out and hopefully replace the failed Inverter.

Here's the catch when financing the system yourself:
    - If your system goes down, NOBODY will monitor it for you.
    - You do not qualify for "Performance Guarantee Credit", WATCH OUT!

    - Since it's not Sunrun's system and they won't have to pay the guarantee, so they find NO URGENCY to help quickly.

CAVEAT EMPTOR! Shop around and read the fine print for these little things that will cost you BIG TIME! I thought that since I had gone through COSTCO I would have to deal with less of this junk. All the Best, Disappointed Buyer.

    Customer ServiceInstallation & Setup

    Reviewed June 19, 2019

Updated on 12/12/2019: In June of this year (so six months ago) I wrote a review about this issue. Basically, we had been with SunRun for over a year at that point, and last winter snow had built up on our panels and slid off into our gutters. The added weight of the snow tore the gutters away from the roof, so they needed to be repaired and re-hung (at our own expense).

After writing a previous review here about this experience (June 28), I was contacted by a SunRun customer service rep a few days later (Jul 2). They promised to put me in touch with a company that would give me a quote for installing snow guards. A week went by and I sent a follow-up email to the customer service rep (Jul 9) asking if there had been any progress. I never heard back from the third-party company or from the SunRun rep.

On Dec 5 the weather in my area turned wintry again and reminded me of this issue. I reached out to SunRun, who apparently didn't have any record of our previous conversation, and had to start from square one again. Finally, I received a quote via email from the snow guard installer for over $4,000 to do that work. This was quite the shock, to say the least, and would have certainly been valuable information to have when we were first considering having solar panels installed. Overall, I feel very mislead by this company and deeply disappointed in their customer service.

Original Review:We have been with Sunrun for a little more than one year. Not impressed at all by their customer service. First of all, the sales person never replied to email after we signed up. The first big issue we encountered was our tree in the backyard. Sunrun sales person had promised that we don’t need to do anything to the tree and they will honor their promised solar production. However, last fall they called us saying our real production has dropped due to our growing tree and said they won’t pay us back for the loss of production. We argued with what the sales person told us, but customer service never got anywhere. Eventually, we are so unhappy and decide to cut our tree down ($2000 out of our own pocket).

Second biggest thing is that snow sliding off the solar panels has destroyed our gutters - time them away from the house. Now we have water getting into our basement whenever it rains, and several other problems besides. Called customer service, they say they are not responsible for it. We are leasing the panel, so it is their property damaged our property but they refused to pay for it. I am very upset for being with Sunrun due to these issues. Unfortunately, we believed what their sale person said that Sunrun has 5 star customer service. Businesses nowadays live on customer reviews, but if we had it all to do over again we would go with another company. But now we are stuck in a 20 year lease.

My cable provider had this promotional thing going around with Sunrun. They said I was in a good spot to get solar panels and we were willing to speak to someone about it. So I took a shot and the Sunrun rep was very informative. She explained everything and answered every question. If If I had any problems with the panels, they will repair them because they are notified if something’s wrong. I had pre-paid it because I was gonna be out of town that time. And they took the payment out, which seems like a double payment. It threw my account totally off, but it’s all right. It’s better now.

I’ve seen a decrease in my electric bill since going solar. It is maintenance-free, and I get a lot of compliments from customers in the area. Other neighbors in the area are asking me how is my experience, and do I see a change in bills, and I tell them, "Absolutely." With the weather change in the number of sunny days that we’re having, we definitely see a difference in my electric bill, as opposed to when I first got it in December, it wasn’t producing that much energy. But now, it’s really kicking up. I'm extremely satisfied. I appreciate Sunrun coming to work with me and explaining everything to me. I would recommend anyone that is in a good area to switch over to solar.

The guy that's a contracted representative of Sunrun was going door-to-door. He had a computer with him and we were talking about how much my husband and I could save and how it works on a flat fee with PG&E and when we true-up at the end of the year. We started looking at rooflines and where the solar panels could go and then he started designing them while he was sitting right here talking to me and figured out how many panels we could put where and stuff like that. Before I agreed, I looked up their ratings on the internet and Sunrun was the second highest rated company out of all of them. I called him back and he stopped back in another day or so after I talked to my husband and that's when we chose to go with them because from the get-go, they were professional, helpful, informative and gave me all the information I needed to make an informed decision on whether I wanted to do this or not.

The guys that they sent out took three days to set up the panels. We had a backyard that we never used. We also have people that live behind us and there's always a privacy issue with us so we put the solar panels up in a south direction to get full sun from 8:00 in the morning until the sun goes down about 7:30 to 8:00 at night. We couldn't put that many on the roof because I have a new part of the house which would only take four panels and the in the old part of the house, the roof isn't solid enough to carry that weight so we did the solar panels in the back. They came in, they dug the holes, they poured the concrete. got the panels set up. They ran the electrical under the house right into the PG&E box and we were up and running and generating power. And they were all nice and knowledgeable. They showed my husband how to read the meter outside. Everything just worked perfectly.

The way this is set up is Sunrun owns the solar panels. They're responsible for the insurance. We do have to do the maintenance of keeping the panels clean and stuff, but if anything goes wrong with the solar panels, they will send somebody out to fix them. All we're paying is a monthly fee which is a hell of a lot less than we would have paid if we stayed with PG&E and it took all of that off our shoulders about having to get a loan and all of that stuff in order to be able to do it.

I'm very satisfied going solar. In the winter months, we were able to run our heaters more than we normally would have because PG&E is so expensive here, it's just outrageous. When March, April, and May came, it started getting nicer and we had everything off. My true-up went from $480 something down to 200. I figure, by the time we get to October for our true-up, we're gonna be even so I'm getting enough solar to offset at a cheaper kilowatt rate that even on the flat fee, we're gonna save probably about $6,000 over the year. It's awesome.

The rep got our last two or three years of kilowatt consumption and billing costs from PG&E downloaded into a spreadsheet and then they base their monthly rate on an average for us, but it was an average that was cheaper than what PG&E would have cost us. We went through all the figures and the kilowatt usage, 'cause I'm always trying to be careful with PG&E anyway. We stuffed as much insulation in the walls as we could. We had already replaced with thermo-insulated windows all through the house and we redid all the sheetrock on the inside of the house and insulated the attic, the walls, and the flooring, installed an attic fan and were trying to make the best ‘cause there's one room that gets really hot and that happens to be the living 'cause it gets full sun all day.

So, our PG&E bills were running $200, $300, and $400 a month in the winter, depending on how cold it got. In the summer, because the walls are so thin, this one room gets really hot, so we were running an air conditioning unit a lot. I never had a bill lower than $170 to $200 a month even in the summer. But now, I'm getting zero from PG&E and my true-up has gone down to $200 and something. By the end of the summer, we're gonna be even and it's already saved me a bunch of money. Sunrun was really great. I've already recommended them to my neighbor. I gave him a copy of this business card for the contract rep because he was interested in solar too. And if anybody asks me, these are the people I'll recommend.

Enrolling with Sunrun was fairly easy. We liked that it was through Costco ‘cause there were added benefits to doing it that way. We also felt that the representative gave us the information that we wanted and options available to us. We chose Sunrun partly because of the sales technique ‘cause they were not high-pressure. Some of the other people tell you stuff, but then when you start investigating, they are not giving you the whole picture. We felt like Sunrun was very clear and upfront with us about everything. They also offered a battery. We wanted to get a battery and when we were looking into some of the others, they told us we did not need a battery. We live in an area where they shut out the power if there are high winds and heat. Everybody else on our street lost the food in their refrigerators and because of our battery, we ended up not having to throw everything out. I’m glad we have the battery.

Our interactions with the customer service were a little scary at first because we had an issue where our battery’s circuits tripped. We had power to everything in the house except the important circuits that were backed up to the solar battery. That became a concern because those are the refrigerator, internet, and all the important things that were supposed to be backed up. They were not working. We knew it had to do with the solar and not SDG&E ‘cause everything else had power.

When I called Sunrun’s customer service, I was told they would not be able to send someone out for 4 to 5 business days. This happened on a Friday so it wouldn’t be until later the next week. I asked if there was any way they could put it as urgent and they said 3 to 4 business days. But it still ended up being well over a week before they sent someone out. Thankfully, I did call the salesperson and he got the installer to come out. He was able to reset the circuits. It’s located in a box that we are not able to access, and it will void our warranty if we try. It worked but we didn’t know that when it had gone out, it fried out our microwave. As soon as the power came back on and they tried to use the microwave, it tripped it again.

Once again, we were jury rigging extension cords all over the house, trying to power the refrigerator, the TV, and the internet. I still ended up having to wait. It went out on the 22nd of February and they didn’t really get it up and running until March 7th. I wasn’t thrilled about that, but in the end, they did right by us. They bought us a new microwave because it had been working fine before all that happened. The amount included enough to get it installed, too.

It would be nice if customer service-wise, there is somebody locally. It took too long for them to get someone out here. The fact that Sunrun does not have a sooner response time is not cool. I was thankful that our salesperson was willing to call on a weekend and that the installer was willing to come out and reset that for us. Those guys went above and beyond. Overall, it all went really smoothly. We’re satisfied with our decision to go solar which we did because of the rising energy costs and we like the idea of being green. It hasn’t been a year yet but so far, we like it.

I wanted to be more independent of the utility companies. First, I got solar water heater and then, when I was approached by Sunrun about solar panels, I thought that was a good idea. Also, the rep told me that they come and take care of everything. So, I decided to go with solar panels and had that installed. The enrollment was good. I was in touch with a couple of different people. They came, checked it out, and installed 12 panels. Now, I get the bill and I have it automatically deducted. I split it between my son and the other guy that stays here and it's fairly reasonable. I'm pretty pleased about going solar. I recommended my sister and my Realtor to Sunrun.

I am buying a home that has solar panels leased through SunRun. They are only 3 years into the 20 year contract. The transfer paperwork was sent to me a week ago (last Tuesday) and stated that my $66/monthly bill has a 2.9% escalator annually. I have been trying to get in touch with the agent or ANYONE who can speak with me about this EVERY DAY SINCE with then no luck. I have called and emailed my agent (from Sunrun) with no response.

Finally on Friday morning (3 days later) I called the main customer service line and was told that my agent is on vacation until Wednesday. So he forgot to set an automated email response, fine. We are all human and all make mistakes, I get it. This agent told me that they could not help me, but would notify my agent's manager and have them get in contact with me to help me. This has yet to happen and it has been 2 plus business days.

Yesterday (Monday) I called the main line again and was FINALLY put in contact with someone who could "help." She listened to my concerns and said that she would crunch numbers and see what she could do to get rid of the escalator. I got an email that afternoon saying that she could remove the escalator, but that I would have to pay $2,512.47 upfront to "buy it down." I then called her AGAIN to discuss and emailed her with a few questions and have not heard back.

I have no idea how great, wonderful, or money saving these panels are but I can tell you that the customer service is EXTREMELY difficult to get ahold of and unresponsive when you need things to be moving due to closing on a home shortly. This has been extremely frustrating and it is concerning to read so many reviews with similar situations. I am very hesitant to lock myself into a 17 year contract with a company that is so unresponsive. So far, not so good.

The Sunrun rep came answered questions and he was helpful. He seemed to understand the process. He said the installation was free, and that they were gonna be doing a lot of things, and that my cost would be a little bit lower. Even with the leasing, it would still be a little bit lower than what I had my monthly fee down to with APS. I was very happy. So I went ahead and signed up with them.

The whole process went pretty well. They went ahead with the installation of the solar panels, and that was taken care of. The people that came out and did the installation were very professional. And then the turning on was pretty easy, step-by-step. It was really good because Sunrun sent me information and emails along the way, describing everything that would be taking place. They were talking me through the whole process, which was good. And then I’ve been getting my bills down, so at this point, it looks like I’m doing pretty good as far as producing solar energy and selling it back. Sunrun lists everything out for me in my APS bill. Everything has been going so well so far.

There was another company that we contracted with to have our solar panels put up. And then we started getting bills and we had to pay Sunrun. I have always thought that solar power is a good thing and then my daughter had it put in her house and they really liked it. They had some panels put on their house and they really liked it. And I have another daughter who actually lives off the grid and has solar, which only supplements the amount of electricity they have. It’s a good supplement, even though the panels we have, for the most part, generate the amount of electricity we need. It falls a little short lately.

I'm also upset now because I contacted Sunrun about adding panels. They said they couldn't do that and if they did, they would have to put in a whole new separate system, to go with the new panels, which I think is ridiculous. And I’m upset about the fact that I'm stuck in a contract, because I have zero flexibility. First of all, the one thing, I thought I was buying out the contract seeing what it would cost to buy it out. We couldn’t take any action like that until after five years because we have a 20-year contract. So, at the end of five years, I contacted Sunrun and said, “Okay, I'm interested. What’s it gonna cost me?” The cost, in my recollection, was more than the original cost was, which I found after paying for five years into the lease and now I would have to pay more than I would have had to pay originally, was kinda shocking. So, obviously, I dropped that.

I wasn’t very happy with any of the answers I got. Right now, I feel as though I'm stuck in a 20-year contract. I got it 14 years ago. And I’m 73 years old, so I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Maybe the panels are probably gonna outlast me as far as the contract goes right now. I would not recommend them to lease at all. I would definitely recommend purchasing without any question at all. For instance, my daughter bought hers and she’s all paid for already. I can but the cost is ridiculous. And my feeling is Sunrun wants to keep me in this lease. They don’t have any intention of letting me out of it in any way, shape or form, unless I come up with a lot of money. They gotta be a little flexible, and work with the customer a little bit. Times change, things change with the people, with the industry. But basically, they’re telling me “Too bad, buddy, you’re stuck.”

I had wanted solar, but me and my husband are in our late 60s right now. So, when I priced it, I wouldn’t have lived long enough to pay off solar before the advantage of having it would take place, because I’d still be making payments for the solar but take the place of the payments I was making to PG&E. So I kept putting it off. So when this program came up through GRID, I'm getting my solar for free.

GRID was sponsoring a Sunrun system for seniors and low-income people. So then, there was a meeting down at our civic center downtown, and me and my husband went down there and we signed up. They lost our paperwork and out of the whole group, by the time she found the paperwork down in Oakland, we were the last ones to get it. My neighbors were getting theirs put up and I hadn’t heard back from them. And finally, I talked to the lady and I said, “Well, I mailed the whole packet the first day we got home.” So then, they went down, they looked in the Oakland office, and found the packet. So then, they finally came in and installed ours.

The paperwork was easy. All I needed was income tax statements and a PG&E bill. They brought a whole crew out and they had done the installation in one day. Our PG&E bills were almost $500 a month. I just got a PG&E bill last week and the amount of electricity was only $4 and something, but the delivery fee or whatever it’s called was $43. I said, “That don’t even makes sense when the electricity you’re using is $4 and they’re charging me $40 to deliver it to your house.” But it’s better than $500.

Sunrun has been great. I'm very pleased. Now, we had a power outage and sometimes, if there’s a power outage, we have to go out along the side of the house over here and flip the switch back on. I'm wondering if that was what they noticed was wrong for this email that I just got saying our system is not working right and to wait a week, and if I hadn’t heard from them to call a certain number and report it. We flipped the switch and now, the lights are back green on there. So, that just might be the deal. So I’ll just tell them we had like a six-hour power outage. I recommended Sunrun to my next-door neighbor and to people down the street. We all ended up with Sunrun.

Our leased solar panels: LG255S1C-G2. Panels have been discontinued, no longer in production. This company clearly indicated to us that by using their system we would enjoy a life virtually free of electricity costs from the public utility. While our cost did reduce we still pay more that $2,000 annually to the utility. In addition we pay Sunrun $2,240 annually for the use of the system! That works out to more that $4,200 for electricity!

Sunrun has not lived up to their claims and cares almost nothing about us, unless we are late with the bill! The panels on our home are rated at 230W, a new LG panel is rated at 375W and retails at $310 each. A cost of $6,820 uninstalled, BRAND NEW! In our contract it clearly states that we can buy the system outright for $25k and be done with them. However, when we contacted Sunrun they indicated that the “Fair Market Value” of the system is over $40k! The system is eight years old and the new technology is a lot better! How can this system be MORE VALUABLE after eight years of service? Not a company I ever want to do business with again!

I got interested in solar energy services to save on my cooling bill. A friend of mine worked at Sunrun. Everything, so far, has been okay. However, it has the app and it can monitor, showing how well your energy you’re producing. The first year, it produced quite a bit daily. It was like 67 to 72 a day. The second year, not very many days got up past like 62. And then I haven’t really checked it this year, but it seems like the amount of power it’s been putting out has lowered. And then when I called, they said the computer showed everything was running 100%. I asked if they could send someone out just to verify it. They said they could but they were gonna charge me for a service tech.

I got a little upset with that and got mad at the person. I said, “So since I am not seeing the quality of energy that I saw the first year, you’re gonna charge me to send someone out to come look at it? You’re gonna charge me to have someone service your system?" They said, “‘cause the computer shows there’s nothing wrong with the system.” That if I request someone out, I have to pay and it was like $90-something an hour for somebody to come out. I refused to pay. I’m not gonna pay for someone to come service their own equipment. Because I already pay them a monthly fee for the equipment. I shouldn’t have to pay the service. That was the whole point of leasing it and not buying it. If I wanted to pay to have someone service it, I would have bought the equipment. It was horrible. I’ve never called back.

I‘ve recommended my friends to buy them from now on. Because from what I’m paying, I could own them and get the same treatment whenever something goes wrong. But the whole reason I did it was because I was told it’s maintenance-free for me, that Sunrun takes care of 100% of all maintenance. To me, if the system’s not producing like it was in the prior year, then I think something needs to be checked on.

Installation was fine though. I didn’t have any trouble with the installation. But I don’t know how many of the bricks they broke because they left them all up on top of the roof. They didn’t bring any down so that I can store them anywhere. They also left a lot of trash behind - screws, small metal stuff, little clippings of wires. And I have young kids so I had to go around and pick up a lot of stuff that fell off the roof and onto the ground. I won’t recommend Sunrun nor any other solar company.

I live out here in the desert in Arizona and we have lots of sunlight. I’m a retired electronic engineer and I know all about the solar panels. I had people walking down the street knocking on my door all the time trying to sell me solar panels. I’m 85 years old. I was 84 when I got the panels from Sunrun. But getting your money back at my age is not likely. For $20,000 out, it takes a long time. I pay enough income tax. I sold some stocks and it’s gonna raise my income tax quite a bit. So, I thought I’ll take advantage of the 30% federal tax credit. I got $6,000 from federal and $1,000 from Arizona. It also makes the house more valuable. I’m gonna leave it to my heirs and they can sell it.

Everything went fine with my experience with Sunrun, other than me asking technical questions and saying they were gonna get back to me. And they didn’t get back to me, and I had to make follow-up calls. I own the panels. There’s a continuous monitoring of the panels down to the individual panel. There’s a port I could plug a computer in and monitor it myself. The people that make the panels are monitoring on their end. I was trying to find out what computer language or what I needed to do to monitor it. But I can’t find out anything current that’s happening right now other than press buttons. The company that makes the equipment says that Sunrun doesn’t allow them to deal with the owners of the panels. I could go to the Sunrun site, but all I can find is what happened yesterday and not in detail. I could find daily or weekly stuff, but I can do that from the electric company, and that’s also a day late. I can’t find out what’s going on now.

But, I’ve been happy with the output and I’m very satisfied. I haven’t paid the electric company a penny since my bill that I paid them October 6th of last fall. And I have a $200 credit with the electric company right now. I like that I can save. They provided that. And I know in different states, different electric companies have different regulations. Right now, they can’t supply me with batteries that I could use as a back-up or anything when the electrical power goes out. But the crew did a very good job. I’m satisfied with the equipment and everything took place on schedule.

We spent from May 19th to June 2nd just trying to get someone to believe us and help us. Sunrun kept closing our support tickets as though they had repaired the issues.

You did not schedule Alex, my husband and I did.... He will be coming next Wednesday. We (the customer) told you that Alex the tech was coming. Wow, amazing how you try to make all of this the customer's fault. You stated "There is a Field Service Coordinator assigned to your case who is handling the scheduling, her name is Crystal ** and you can reach her directly at ** and her email is **." It doesn't do us any good to have this person. We have sent her 2 emails and left her one VM last week. She has not responded. We have rec'd emails from Specialist Kimberly **, Manager Michael **, sales rep Torrey **, customer service rep Eric **, customer service rep Stephanie **, and a few others. Now you Victoria want us to contact you as well? WHY? How many people do we need to contact at Sunrun before they fix this broken system? This is so unprofessional.

After the tech visited again on June 6th, this is what he determined: Verified facts: Tech arrived and performed troubleshooting of the Sunrun Solar system on 6/6/19 @ 8:30 a.m. at the home of Steve ** & ** SR-Customer # **. Tech confirmed that homeowner's inverter was set to California settings but customer is an Arizona location, however mentioned that it had nothing to do with the dangerous ARC FAULT code. Tech confirmed that a new inverter is necessary and he would order. Tech requested installation for the inverter on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 sometime in the A.M. Note: Inverter Failed again 2 hours after Alex left the home.

In addition to a new inverter box, Tech also suggests a 3 man crew to check all 33 panels on the roof of the home due to concerns with ARC FAULT Code (dangerous fire hazard). Tech feels that most likely there is a problem with wiring connections on actual solar panels which are causing the short. Tech reported there were over 52 ARC FAULT codes recorded in Inverter. (Which explains why customers solar production details reflect low production as well as low credits with Arizona Public (APS) since February 2019, yet very low electric consumption according to APS.)

System has not performed correctly since installation Jan. 16, 2019, rather system has substantially underperformed. Tech's Suggestions: Tech proposed that homeowners observe new inverter after installation and entire systems panels after crew has checked for installation issues as mentioned above. (This will be an ongoing for some months). Tech's professional observation & opinion is that if solar production problems and ARC FAULT Code remain persistent AFTER all has been inspected & repaired then the final possible remedy would be installation of a new system. Tech aimed to solve all of the issues mentioned above .

    Customer: SR-Customer # **.

And to address MONEY. Customer has never asked for MONEY, although money was offered to the customer from SUNRUN. (And it should be, we have a broken system that is only 4 months old.) No customer should have to continue making payments on a product that doesn't work, especially when it is brand new. We only asked for our system to perform the way it is intended and built to perform. Is that too much to ask of Sunrun? I guess so, read all the complaints. We have even asked for removal of this system because the emotional cost of doing business with Sunrun has truly been a nightmare! It's like having a full time job dealing with them. And Sunrun's failures are not a secret!

Original Review: Tried to leave a detailed review, but this site wouldn't allow us to post it. We had a system installed in January 16, 2019 and system has had nothing but problems. We are now producing ZERO solar for the fourth time, but SunRun says everything is fine when we call customer service. We downloaded the My Sunrun excel records to PROVE that our system has days of zero production in sunny Arizona. We have an amber ALARM code (ARC CODE) and system will not reboot, and SUNRUN thinks this is okay? In 35 days we have had ZERO solar production. By the way, you have to keep paying them while you have no solar production.

There was a Sunrun vehicle down the street from my house in my neighborhood and they were installing the solar panel. I decided to call them and I liked what they had to offer other than the other competitors that I have heard before. After they installed the panels, I went up to the roof and there were cracked and missing tiles, so I reached out to customer service and the coordinator. And they got technicians out here right away and took care of those issues. And every other time when I’ve reached out for customer service, they’ve been good so far.

I’m on my first year with Sunrun. I got the system in the wintertime and it wasn’t producing as much but in the fifth month. I was paying over $450 a month in the summer season before. Now it's only $200 a month, so that's awesome. I like having credit with my electric company rather than owing them much. Also, my home is cooler ‘cause of the panels and the roof doesn’t take all the heat.

We’re really happy with our Sunrun. We love it except for the middle section of the process. It wasn’t smooth, painless, and great. We ran into some real serious glitches in the installation process and it took months to get it turned on finally. We got passed around a lot and somebody dropped the ball big time with the city. They didn’t apply for the permit when they were supposed to, and then they didn’t tell the city that they had actually installed it. So, the city never came and did their inspection because they didn’t know that it was done yet and it was like six weeks of me emailing and calling and driving people crazy, trying to find out where we were in the process. Sunrun kept saying Commerce City hasn’t given them the permit yet. I finally called Commerce City and the permit hadn’t been applied for yet.

We were really frustrated at that point of the installation process. Also, we were burning prime summertime hours. So, I feel like we really missed out on our credit for last winter because of it. It was installed in March and didn’t turn on until almost August. It was a long time. But my understanding is that Sunrun had a fairly major turnover in employees. Other than that, the salespeople and the installation guys were great and as soon as everything was up and running, we’ve been nothing but ecstatic. And the results have been spot on with what we were told to expect. In fact, our panels have exceeded our expectation. We’re using power less than we were expecting to. The only issues I have is in the wintertime when the snow piles up on it and I can’t get it to clear. We end up with quite a few days that we don’t get to generate anything. I wish you could turn on something that would help melt the snow off of them.

John from Sunrun came and did a presentation. We had turned down going solar seven different times, but he answered a lot of the questions and concerns that I had in his presentation. Also, we went with them because they warranty their own stuff and their cost seems to be a little bit better than what had gotten presented to me before. Then, he made the enrollment very easy and he made my mom feel real comfortable with all of us participating and everything. And he was real honest about what we were signing up for and how that was gonna affect things.

The installers were amazing. They found something wrong with my roof and they took care of it. They also gave me some suggestions as to what to ask roofers to look at when they come and do the rest of the roof. So, I was really, really pleased. They didn't make a mess and didn't get in the way of anybody. And they did their work very quickly and did well. It was the transitioning part with the office that was more difficult. They told us we weren’t gonna have to deal with the electric company at all and that ended up being a lie. It has been a real pain in the butt with the electric company. But a lot of the concerns I had had about who owned what and what our responsibility was gonna be and Sunrun seemed to cover that a little bit better than other companies.

Once I got somebody from customer service, it was pretty good. We had a lot of trouble figuring out who was our representative, and who was this, and who was that. And whatever it is with the parent company and the other, it gets really confusing and difficult because we’re trying to talk to whoever’s gonna solve this problem. But we can never get anybody to take responsibility for it being their problem. Like if there’s a problem, it always takes me a week just to get somebody to admit that that’s who I’m supposed to be talking to. So, that makes it a little bit difficult. Also, I’m still paying the electric company because I have to pay for them to manage the electricity that I’m sending them. I don't understand that part and that’s really frustrating. Other than that, going solar has been okay so far and we’re pretty satisfied.

I see some negative reviews, one being from someone who stated they got a 750 dollar bill at the end of the year from your electric company. What happens is people think because they have Solar they can just run their air conditioning and other appliances as much as they want any time you want. I have a pool and dual AC system in my house and even I know that since I have a big house I will utilize lots of energy around 35-40 KW/Hour a day. You need to know what your peak hours and non peak hours are with your electric company.

During the summer SCE charges around 47 cents per KW/Hour during Peak hours (2-8PM) more than double off peak hours. Between 2-8PM I don't run my AC system at all or run any running appliances such as my dryer. I run my pool from 3AM to 11AM ensuring it gets sunlight but also avoid running the motor during peak hours. I average 67-70KWZ/Hour per day on a sunny day in June/July/August with my panels. I use about about 60KWZ/Hour a day in the summer offsetting the pricing. If I didn't have solar I would be spending 500-700 dollars per month. Instead I pay 200. At the end of the year I ended up 400 dollars in the positive. Know how to use your solar and understand how it works before you purchase. Your mindset should not change just because you have solar. If you do then you're going to overuse your capacity and get a big bill at the end of the year.

I purchased a paid in full lease last fall. Everything worked well up until the installation. Sunrun was happy to take $16,000 of my money and the system was installed. The problem is that at installation they told us there was a broken box which a couple of weeks later they replaced. On December 18th I was told my system was up and running. In December the system made 139 KW. In January it made 168, On January 16th I wrote to the Project Coordinator because the system was flashing ERROR. Megan politely told me to go to Customer Care and I forwarded them the message on January 17th.

I received no response and sent another inquiry on January 23rd. Customer care told me they look at other production in the area and mine was consistent so I wrote back again explaining that I was not complaining about lack of performance but that I was getting a big flashing error on my system, which was likely not a good sign. On 01/28 I was asked what time of day, I confirmed that I looked in the evening and then waited and then confirmed that I was also getting this error in the day time. Then I was asked if I had snow on my roof. Now it was Feb 4th, I confirmed there was some snow but not on the whole roof and asked if I was to except that whenever there was snow. No Reply to that email at all.

On 2/6 I was notified my system may need some attention and they were sending a technician. A technician came out and one of the boxes was shattered. The first week in March it was repaired. They told me it was online and I noticed it was still not making power. This went back and forth several times. On March 26th the technician told me there were two boxes on the roof that have been processed for RMA - these have never come. I have followed us many, many times both email and phone. Sunrun does NOT answer any of my emails - I just get the acknowledgment. My tech told me earlier this month he was leaving the company. Now I have no one to help me since customer care does not respond. I initially wanted my system repaired and now I am considering having it removed. I would like to know how to get a response from Sunrun and some action to take place. This is very disappointing.

Sunrun installed 27 solar panels on our house in 2014. The process went very well. However, we have never achieved the solar production we were promised. We repeatedly were told the system was working properly. It was just underperforming. We had our electric company come out several times to check the metering thinking that was the problem. We then encountered a communication problem with our inverter. Sunrun sent a Technician to our house to remedy the communication problem. This was in early January 2019. While at our house the technician went on the roof to inspect our solar panels. He immediately noticed that the peak of our neighbor's house was casting a shadow on 3 solar panels located on the lower row of our solar panels.

We discussed the shadowing and quickly realized that the underperformance of our solar system was a result of the shadowing that has been occurring during the winter months when the sun is at its lowest in the sky. He said he would inform Sunrun management and would request that our panels be repositioned on the roof so the panels no longer are located where the shadowing exists. Problem solved... correct!! NOT! I have now had dozens of phone calls and emails with Sunrun and they will not move the panels which should be covered in my "10 year workmanship warranty"!!! I am now extremely frustrated with Sunrun's complete lack of post installation customer service and warranty support. All I want is for the panels to be repositioned on my roof so that they no longer are in shadows during the winter months... which should have been identified by Sunrun during the site inspection and azimuth readings (workmanship).

Sunrun replied and a representative gave me her phone number and email so she could assist me. At this point I want to hire a third party contractor to remove and replace the panels. He charges less than half of what Sunrun demands. But they have to approve him first and they won't tell me what they need to approve him. It is now 2 months later. She has not responded to phone calls or email. My roof leaks. What am I supposed to do?

Original review: I had a Rec Solar install a Sunrun system on my home 10 years ago. The sales person informed me that in the event I needed roof work, they would come and take down and replace the panels at no cost to me. Sunrun subsequently bought Rec Solar residential. I am now being told by Sunrun that it will cost me $500 plus $150 per panel (we have 48 panels) for them to remove and replace the panels. This will wipe out all my savings from putting the panels in in the first place.

Further, it will also take up to 45 days for them to do the removal. How am I supposed to coordinate with my roofer for my project? Am I supposed to wait 45 days with a leaking roof damaging my interior for them to get their people out to my house? This is unacceptable. I now regret this system. This company doesn't stand by its promises. The people are condescending. DO NOT USE THEM, EVER.

We installed a system that was supposed to meet the energy draw and even added more panels just to make sure that we were covered. Imagine our surprise when we got a $750 bill from PG&E for 'true-up'. I called Sunrun to come to check on the system and, while the customer rep was very polite and scheduled for a field person to come out, that person never came. Never called. No follow-up contact whatsoever. When I realized no one was going to call, I called again and got a supervisor. At first she tried to blame me that I hadn't sent the pictures they had asked for...I hate those kinds of tactics! When I told her that I had proof that they had been sent (I gave her the time and date they were emailed), she finally acknowledged that she 'found' them.

When I asked what happened to the technician who was supposed to come she identified that he had apparently just canceled the order. Poof! He just cancelled the order...for no reason, with no contact with me...nothing! When I suggested that it would be good for them to identify who did that, there was no interest in doing so. So, I guess that employee gets away with such irresponsibility and, surely, it will be done to someone else. Anyway, this supervisor said that she would make sure this got taken care of and someone would give me a call to schedule a time. Nothing. No one called. There was no follow through---AGAIN.

Now more weeks go by and I have another $700 bill from PG&E. This amount of money is absurd when you know how little is actually on the system. PG&E came out and, with their equipment, could show me how little of the solar was coming through. I relayed this to Sunrun. Even after all their lack of accountability, there was no effort from Sunrun to make this a priority as the next appointment they could give was still a week away...and that's even if they show up. Next we hear drilling into our roof for it seemed like a half hour or so. Then it was quiet for at least 35-40 min thought it was break time. Then the one of the installation men comes to the door and says after being on the roof one of the men feels the shingles are too brittle. Well why would you start drilling into my roof attaching your solar boxes to my siding losing some of my flashing and my electrical wire on the side of the home. From a ladder a person can tell if shingles are brittle also from the inspection and survey it should have been pointed out.

So now I have holes in my roof but no solar panels I have solar boxes attached to my house but no solar. Looking for a clearer explanation about the $81 I'm contacted to pay Sunrun per month. Since there is supposedly no out of pocket cost for the panels and their installation. Then what exactly is this payment covering; and Is this a lifetime payment? How's that work if I'm on vacation for 2/3 weeks or a month and there's no too very minimal kilowatt usage in my home during that time; am I still on the hook for the $81, or does that number come down as well? Just need a clearer understanding!

Financing Sunrun Solar product through Costco, a trusted brand, an expected a superior product. Just received a $1,700 PG&E bill because the system stopped working after just two months of installation. So now I’m paying a $140 a month to finance the Sunrun product and have to pay the $1.700 energy bill because the product I purchased did not work properly shortly after installation. Sunrun offered a $200 refund, which is an insult. I should not have to pay an electric bill due to a faulty product. This of course means if the system goes down at any point over the next several years I’m on the hook for these expenses as well. Please Sunrun come and remove the system from my roof now!!! I no longer want to be in this one-sided partnership. I pay you whether your product works or not. This is the honeymoon phase and the relationship is already sour.

A friend of ours is a Sunrun representative and she presented it to us, and it made good sense. We have had the system installed for about a year now and the experience with Sunrun has been seamless. It took a couple of months for it to really start building up the energy, but it worked. It took three months to build up the energy so that it would lower our anticipated debt and we would start seeing some savings. Everything was told to us upfront what would happen, so it wasn't a big surprise either. The only problem we had is that their office got the wrong address in there somehow and our representative worked her tail off to get it changed. It was like everything she did didn't happen and it made it sticky for a while. It caused a bit of hesitation on being able to get things started, but once it got corrected, it went very smoothly and it was convenient.

The person that we worked with was wonderful and really followed through on everything she said she would follow through on, and it made it very easy to do. The installation went really well. They were there when they said they were gonna be there. There were no surprises and they got everything done well the first time. They also fixed a couple of tiles that broke during installation.

We debated whether or not to get solar; and finally went with Sunrun. Their sales team is persistent and on-top of things. I was told there would be no out of pocket costs by the sales team and Sunrun would take care of any roof modifications. The installation process was actually pretty good. PM was on top of things; and everything was installed with little attention required from me. The system was installed at activated for Feb 1, 2019.

By Feb 28, 2019 - smoke was coming out of the inverter and a strong burning/electrical smell; and quickly turned off the system - thank God this was caught in the knick of time. After over 3 weeks, someone from Sunrun comes to look at what was wrong and the tech says "looks like they used the wrong fuse. It was too small. Good thing this was shut off because it could have caused a fire." Glad to know my new solar power system could have caused a fire with kids in the house - great job guys (not!).

So finally, they come to fix the system in April. Basically, the system was down for over 1 month. I asked for a credit for the month that the system did not work. Customer service said it needed additional approval to grant me credit for the system not working..I'm still waiting for 1 month credit. So Sunrun repaired the system; and within a week, fault messages were coming. Called customer service, and crickets as to when someone will come back to fix it - AGAIN. After 4 months since installation, my system has only worked for less than 4 weeks!

And back to my earlier comment of when Sunrun told me there would be no out of pocket cost to install. I get a random collections notice from ARM Solutions to pay Sunrun $355 for roof repairs. Called up customer service and they said we never sent you a bill and sorry it went to collections. So now, I have to pay $355 after being told my out of pocket would be $0 and insult to injury, they send me to collections without ever telling me there was cost involved on a system that does not work. Of course, I paid it off..I have almost perfect credit - so not going to let an irresponsible company like Sunrun ruin it. Moral of the story - run away from Sunrun!! The next 20 years of life with them looks to be fun. What a joke of a place.

I met one of Sunrun's salespeople before we bought our home and when we decided to go solar, we asked her because she and my wife had become friends. We went online in September of last year and our experience with Sunrun has been hit and miss. We had problems when we turned the system on. They put in the electric and they were ready to put the solar up, but they hadn't done the electric yet because the company they used to do the electric had rescheduled. The right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. They finally got the electric done then they came and put the panels in, but one of the guys miswired something so the system didn't go online. They came out and fixed that. We also have an existing problem that they haven't been able to figure out yet. It keeps flipping the circuit breaker.

The last time I called, the rep was very pleasant on the phone, although it took about three weeks for them to show up. It was like, "We got the system in so we really don't care whether we service you or not." As far as the cost or energy consumption, it costs me 12 bucks a month no matter what we use. I am not thrilled with Sunrun and if I were to do it again, I would research more and I am not sure I would use them.

I wish my family NEVER got involved with SunRun! The sales rep told us and so does their automated answering machine that you can move and take your panels with you to your new home. LIE. We are from the east coast. Raccoons is a big problem there. Turns out the west coast has a pigeon problem. Lo and behold we had dozens of babies and their nest under our panels.

When I explained to customer service the havoc pigeon feces can do to a persons lungs. They laughed and said we should of gotten critter guard. I had no idea what critter guard was. She explained it and my argue was if I was selling you a car in Montana wouldn’t you want me as a sales rep to mention all weather floormats? Why didn’t your sales rep have information on critter guards? That would of been helpful because now we have eggs all over our yard. We have to walk our dogs on a leash in our own fenced in back yard because of all the pigeon feces and eggs.

Not to mention, the inverter is broken every other month! It is now 100 degrees in Nevada and guess what? The inverter is broken again. We also are buying a new house and SunRun said, "No we cannot take your panels off and can not bring them to your new home." I don’t know why a sales rep or their automated message would say we could... So this sucks! We financed them because we were under the impression that they were OURS to keep but now we have to pay them off at closing and give them to someone else. What a waste of $17,000. A neighbor had Sunrun and I looked into it. I had a good experience with the salesperson. However, he purposely did not give me the right information and the company didn’t accommodate in the same manner that I was told. That was in the contract and I had to challenge them on it. It took a long time to get established and they ended up taking an extra payment. I’ve emailed several times to get them to give me back the overcharge but to no avail, and I just chalked it up. There was a point in the contract where you could pay off the full balance early without any payment penalty, therefore not having to pay a finance fee. So, that’s what I did and yet when I paid it off, they kept showing as if I still had a monthly payment due and they had still drafted it from my account, even though I have given them a check for around $28,000.

I paid off a 20-year plan in full, which was always my intent because if I paid it off over 20 years, it would’ve been $40,000. The only way that it would be a benefit to me was if I paid it off early. I got free installation and it was what the salesperson said was a viable option. It was in the contract worded that way. They never had somebody do that, so the company challenged me on it. I had to jump through a lot of hoops and they eventually said I was right. So, they did one bill and automatically drafted me, then they showed me another that I still owed the next month of around $140. I do not owe them $140 and they owe me $140 because they took it after I paid them off.

They had a representative contact me and say sorry that they made my account balances zero. I contacted them back and I said that they made my account balances zero as if I didn’t owe them any money, but they never gave me back my $140. I went through that for the longest time. They literally never returned my call and it was a supervisor. I would leave a detailed message but I never heard anything. After a while, I thought that I was just done with it. I hate for that to ruin the experience because Sunrun was saving me a ton of money. Going solar was the biggest, no-brainer decision ever.

You can only legally get enough for 20,000 kilowatts per year and I utilize 50,000 kilowatts per year, so it was cutting my electric bill for a time. My monthly bill would’ve been around $140 if I hadn’t paid it off monthly. Then, I would have to pay Duke Energy my regular utility bill. Before Sunrun, I was paying roughly $600 a month, but now, after paying off Sunrun, I have bills between 50 and around 120, so it is literally hundreds of dollars difference every month. However, they still should have given back the $140 to me. It was a lack of their customer service department. Once you have the product up, they just don’t know what they are doing. They had poor follow-through to realize what they had done and to rectify it. Nonetheless, I recommend Sunrun.

I looked into getting a solar energy service to get a reduction in my utility bill. I ran the numbers and saw that there was a possibility for a payout in eight years. Sunrun had installed a system at my work and when I was still working, Sunrun was vetted by the agency, and they were one of the companies that was recommended by them. Enrolling was simple and painless. I had leased the system from them and I did a one-time payout on the lease so I don’t have monthly lease payments.

The installation of the system was professional and its operation was pretty seamless. However, I am somewhat limited in the reduction of my utility bill because of the direction of the sun and I live in an area that has numerous large trees. I have a large home, but it happens to be three stories. My roof line is quite limited and they couldn’t put too many panels up. I would’ve loved to have had more panels and possibly more sun energy than our utility energy. I contacted Sunrun a few years ago about cleaning the panels because I saw that the efficiency of my unit went down. I had a little trouble contacting them, but they got back to me and said that there was no need to do that.

Luckily this time has not been as hot so our bills did not jump up. However, I do think 2 failures in 2 years is too many AND I would have liked to have someone come out and tell me if we had any other options like more panels or some sort of storage system. I've always been interested on solar and wind. When it was new, it has been out on the West Coast forever but here in Texas, they really didn't wanna do it, or it was cutting into the big oil companies and their profits and everything else that they screwed the economy on. When I first moved in my house, the solar panels and a water heater were already on. I was the second owner. The big 80-gallon tank water heater is in my garage but every time I went to try to fix it, I could never get the pump to work. I found out that calcium has built up in the solar panels and nobody worked on it.

I got a friend in Denver, Colorado and when I went there, it was all solar panels and that sparked my interest. Tony was the one who reached out to me. I made him talk and he gave me the whole Sunrun deal but all I needed to know were how many panels, where they were gonna put them and when I was going to get a battery pack. We have our storms and that was my main concern because my house is all electric. So, with all of the home improvements, AC, insulation, windows and all of that, solar was my only option because nobody's doing wind yet. If I can have a wind turbine, I'd put that on here too but I can't do a generator because we don't have gas in the neighborhood. So, I would have to store gasoline in my garage and hope it doesn't blow up.

I’m trying to save energy and for my peace of mind, I’m trying to make my house as environmental-friendly as I can. I even have a water filtering system. So, with the hurricanes and storms we get in Texas, I never know when we're gonna have to boil water. I'm good with water but I'm trying to get electricity. I'm trying to get off the grid in the city. I asked Tony to get me a great package deal on some battery packs. When we have hurricanes here in Houston, I wanna have electricity. Here, we would be without lights for almost a week. It depends on where you at and how bad it is, so I need some off the grid power. I’m waiting right now on Brightbox because I’ve got the solar. I need the battery packs or a good cost on the them. When our lights go out, I need energy because of my wife's health. Generators would have been good but no gas. So, solar is my next option.

Enrolling with Sunrun was very easy and I understood some of it as far as the billing but I was trying to understand again as far as me having a bill from Sunrun and then me having a bill from Think Energy. It depends on how much energy I produce to save and at the time when it was installed, it was more during the winter months where days are shorter and more clouds. So, I'm looking forward now being the summertime to where it's hotter. I know the solar panels absorb heat in the sun, so I should be producing good for the next winter.

I was using Stream Energy which was one of the cheaper ones on the market and on the average, in the summertime, my bill would be somewhere in the ballpark of $190. In the wintertime, it would be somewhere in the ballpark of 160. With Sunrun, it would be 132. The first few months I had with Think Energy, the highest I paid was $76 so, I was still kinda within that range. However, just last month, I got my bill from Think Energy and it was $7. So, I'm on my way.

Very deceptive company. We inherited the solar lease from the previous owners when we purchased our home in 2016. Big mistake. No cost savings whatsoever. Do not get involved with a solar lease. First true-up bill was more than $1200. We cut down usage A LOT by freezing in the winter (keeping our home at 57 degrees) and sweating in the summer (keeping our home at 80 degrees and using fans more than AC). Second year our true-up bill was less than $300. Now, the true up bill is more than $800 and we haven't done anything different than last year.

I complained to Sunrun and they requested I make copies of my SCE bills for the last 12 months and mail them to the company so they can conduct a cost analysis. I sent them the downloaded usage every day for the past year in an Excel file and they said they still needed copies of my bills. I mailed the copies with a tracking number which they received on 22-MAR-2019. As of this writing (21-APR-2019), I have not received a response from this company after multiple emails and phone calls. I called and left a voicemail on 25-FEB-2019.

No response. I followed up in an email on 05-MAR-2019. No response. I followed-up again on 09-APR-2019. No response. In addition, we've been in our home for almost 3 years and the panels have NEVER been serviced or cleaned since we've lived here and SunRun is in breach of their contract. I would not recommend Sunrun to anyone. There are no cost savings. We are a two-person household that tries to be very energy efficient and our Sunrun solar lease + yearly true-up bills from the electric company average more than 3k/year and we live in SoCal. This is an outrage. Where are the cost savings? We are totally getting scammed and are seeking legal action to have these panels removed.

We find it very unsettling that we have yet to hear back from SunRun on the many issues we have experienced with them. The lack of good customer service or even a response is extremely questionable. Their continued lack of correspondence will lead me to seek counsel with my local state assembly member and other necessary actions. This is outright fraud.

Sunrun was willing to work with us leaving the trees though. The other companies just wanted to cut them all down, and we didn't want to cut our trees down. Enrolling at Sunrun was easy. The guy came out and went through the contract. He explained everything the best he could so we could understand it.

I've been with Sunrun for about four years now and my experience has been good overall. I am set up where I lease the system from Sunrun for 20 years. I gave them 20 grand and I got the S-racks and the tax credits. So I don’t have a cost from Sunrun for electric. My setup is supposed to do 8.8 kilowatts but I haven't hit that yet. But I also have an agreement in my contract that whenever I don’t make the 8.8 kilowatts, they send me a check for the difference.

I had a problem a year or two ago though. I was generating electricity and they were supposed to monitor it. But something went wrong with my monitoring device and I wasn’t recording any generation. I don’t check that every day either and by the time I checked to see how I was doing on my generation, I had missed product for about five months. Then the problem I had with customer service was that every time I called, I would get a new person and I would have to go through the same rigmarole to say what had happened or what was going on. I never had one individual customer service rep that I could call to see how things were going. That aside, their customer service is good. It took me a long time to get that straightened out. But overall, I was pleased with it.

I do very few reviews like this but I want to share my experience with Sunrun. The process was long and tenuous but the panels were finally installed. The last step in the process was for Xcel Energy to approve the install of the panels which provides me with 96% coverage of electricity for my home. Xcel came back (after all the panels were installed) and told Sunrun they would need to remove a portion of the panels which would bring my electrical coverage guarantee down from 96% to 76%. This was NOT part of my original contract. The reason Xcel Energy gave was that this many panels could overload the outdated transformer. Sunrun offered me the 76% solution and this was not acceptable for me. Now that they will need to remove the panels, they have sent me documents to sign that release them from liability issues that may arrives from unseen damage to my roof.

Since we've had it, we've had to pay a little bit extra to the local HELCO but I'm hoping we can get that under control and just pay Sunrun basically.

The representatives have been good as well. When I reached out to the group in Colorado, they were receptive. But the local group in Hawaii is a little different story. When I opened a ticket, the group in Colorado told me I would get a call within five business days. But I never got a response back from the local support, not even a callback this last time. Even if they were too busy to come out, they should have at least done a callback to let me know what was going on. That's a major part of maintaining your customers – at least let them know what's going on. For five days, our system wasn't storing anything. I went and looked at the system and they had an alarm light on. So I thought that was the problem. What I ended up doing was shutting the system down, turning it back on and simply getting it to work.

I've wanted to go solar but I wasn’t sure about it until Sunrun came over. They explained it to me more and told me about programs that were available to me. And then everything was quite simple for me after that. They had me look over the paperwork, which was exactly what the rep explained to me, and if I had questions, he would answer via text or a phone call. The rep answered all my questions. He was really good at his job.

The installation then took about a whole day and it went really well. They started around 9 o’clock in the morning and they were done before 4:00. When the installer was done, he explained to me what the system is and how I would check if my panels were producing the normal amount. They gave me one panel more than what was estimated just to be on the safe side - with no charge. The only thing is, they didn’t go by the initial plan. They were gonna place the panels on one side of the house, but they ended up scattering a couple of panels here and there. But all in all, I’m satisfied with the service. I have referred two of my friends and they had their solar installed around five months ago.

I’m really satisfied about going solar because it gets pretty hot in California right now, especially Southern California, and if you’re not running your air conditioning, you’re gonna die. My highest energy bill was $400, and having a bill around that every month for electricity is a lot. And even in wintertime, my wife gets cold a lot easily, so I never even turned off the heater.

Our electric bill was high and Costco recommended Sunrun, however, the enrollment process with Sunrun was quite badly. They had a salesman that came out and assessed the number of solar panels we needed to get 100% replacement. I wanted to get off the grid and they came up with what they recommended for us to buy, which was fine, but they registered wrong with HICO. Instead of getting a 10k and above type system, they mistakenly registered for a seven-kilowatt-hour type of system. The salesman dropped the ball that they could not get the thing redone and they wanted me to accept a seven-kilowatt type of system instead of the 10 that was needed. The reason for the 10-kilowatt is the high mole content in this area and what we wanted to do was to have total air conditioning, so I would not accept the seven even though they discounted it.

We went with another guy and he was good at getting things moving. The 10 was applied for, but because of the delays with the initial salesman and managers at that time, we lost the net metering or selling electricity back to the grid. I argued with Sunrun and told them that they cost me all the electricity I was supposed to be sending back to the grid. We made a compromise where they provided two battery packs in addition to whatever I needed. The battery boxes were not part of the original deal, which was fine, but I settled with them, and they put the product in. I was supposed to have 100% or close to 100% of the needed electrical requirement for the house, so I could put in that air conditioning and I was supposed to zero out or just pay the minimum cost for HICO hookup. However, I am still paying about 150 a month, which is not 100% coverage ever.

I am waiting until the summer to make an assessment of whether they calculated the right kilowatt-hours for the house because I am clueless about how many panels I need to get proper electricity from the system, and that is where we are today. The guy who got this thing reorganized. He did a good job. What had happened initially was people had incorrectly calculated things wrong, which wasn't his fault. The only problem I am having right now is I am paying 150 bucks a month when I am supposed to just have the hookup charge for HICO.

Sunrun is quite disconnected. The field guys and the guys in admin are not really talking to each other. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. There is a lot of, "Rah, rah, rah, great. Everything's great," but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of getting stuff done, it is not there. You gotta track them down, you gotta call them, and you gotta pester them. There are some people that are very efficient, though, like a guy named Lance. He was exceptional and was on top of things.

I’ve been waiting five weeks for an inverter to be replaced. No one at Sunrun seems to be the least bit interested in getting this inverter installed. Since Sunrun sells systems every day, there must be an inverter around somewhere. What do I have to do to solve this issue?

Great savings. We have a metal roof guaranteed for 50 yrs. SunRun was the only company that would install on our roof — others wanted to replace some or all of the roof with vinyl. We live in San Diego and our bill is from zero to 3 dollars a month from.

It was my understanding that my panels would produce 100% of my energy needs. This last year has been the rainiest, overcast year on record for Maryland. The contract says something about us getting a refund check if our panels fail to produce. We started using the panels in December 2017. I called the company in February, 2019 and they said they would be giving us a refund. I asked if they were sending a statement showing how much energy was produced and a breakdown of how much money they owed us. They said no. However, if I send them all of my energy statements from Pepco for the last year, they will investigate for me. They still haven't sent me a check. I don't know why I have to send them all of my energy statements! Where is my refund?

My brother referred me to Sunrun and after talking to him, I thought that going solar was a good idea. Enrolling with Sunrun was very easy and the reps were very good. We had an issue with data in the beginning but since the installation, the service has been great. We had our start until the last month and when I was trying to read the electrical bill period, the numbers were off a bit. But other than that, I would recommend Sunrun to others.

Thank you for your review, Daniel! We are so pleased to hear that enrollment was easy and that everyone you worked with was so helpful! It sounds like things have been smooth since activation. When looking at your utility bill, it's important to keep in mind that the utility company cannot see the total amount of energy produced, only the energy that gets pushed back to them that did not get used - so it is normal for things to not align the way you would expect. But if you ever notice something that does not look right on the bill, please reach out to us and we are more than happy to investigate! Congrats on going green, and thank you for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

Somebody in my community was looking at getting solar and we heard about Sunrun through them. We heard that it was cheaper, although there were some restrictions. You could not be a Blue Ridge customer, you had to be a Duke customer to be able to get it. We were with Duke, so we were able to get it. The salesman was great and he walked us through the process really well. It was easy to sign up for it. The only complaint I have with it was how long it took to approve and install it. It was several months in the process, but they did a good job installing the system. There were a lot of hoops. They had to get things approved through the county and the city, and all those took a while. They had to get permits and there were a lot of regulations and non-sense that held up the process.

Other than that, we are enjoying our solar and we just got a small refund check back from Duke Energy because we saved enough power that they were able to use it to provide power to other customers. I called Sunrun's customer service once to get my website set up so that I could do payment online and it went well. We use power just like we did before and we don't notice any difference in our power. We don't notice flickering or going off. It is just continuous just like it was before, but our bills are a lot less. We were paying a good $50 more a month through Duke Energy than what we are paying now with the solar, and maybe even more in the summer time when we are running air. Going solar with Sunrun saved us a significant amount of money monthly.

They are totally responsible for the panels and they told us that they insured the panels until we totally own them ourselves, so if anything happens, like if we get hail damage, they totally cover all of that. They usually send out an email with contact information if there is ever a storm to let us know and if we notice any damage to our panels and how to contact and get in touch with them if we need them. They are good about doing that. It has been a positive experience for us. The only thing I wanna see is that South Carolina would get with the game and let us use the batteries and use storage methods. A lot of other states are able to use a battery and have a way of storing and using their own energy from the solar so that in case they lose power, they can go back to using the solar and not lose power when there is an outage.

Thank you so much for the review, Christy! We are so pleased to hear that your experience going solar went so well! It definitely can take some time between signing the agreement and actually activating the system, but we are constantly working to cut down that timeline. It sounds like since you've been up and running that you're seeing a benefit! That is fantastic news! One of the many benefits of solar is being able to #savewiththesun! Hopefully soon, South Carolina and many other states will jump on the battery option and we can get you set up with a storage option. As always, we will keep you updated! Congrats on going solar, and thank you so much for helping us create a planet run by the sun!

I was shopping around for solar and I compared prices and customer service reps. Sunrun's rates were really good and the customer service was good too. I also checked out SolarCity, which turned to Tesla, but they seemed to suck after they changed ownership. Tesla was also gonna install at a much later time than Sunrun and my calendar was open. Sunrun asked if they could install the next week and I told them to go ahead. So they did that. My wife had solar installed in a different house and it took much longer. So compared to that, Sunrun was very good.

Enrolling was also relatively easy and although I had some issues communicating and coordinating some stuff with the installers, overall, it was a really excellent customer service experience. The lady I was working with, the installation coordinator, went above and beyond and that was really awesome for pretty much any company, let alone just solar. So I'm really happy with it. They accommodated some of my requests and the installation was good. You don’t really see a change in the bill but I guess that's because I’m leasing these panels so I get this fixed monthly bill. I’ve also yet to get my end-of-the-year true-up to find out how much I really owe on top of my monthly bill. But once I do, I’ll get a better understanding of how much I’m really saving.
