The enrollment took a while because the information that we were given was incorrect, so the rep kept going back and forth. There were a few hitches, but the installation went well. At the time, I signed up for 3 properties, so there was some mix-up there, but it was straightened out in the end. With Sunrun, there's certainly a lower monthly bill in the summer and so far, I don't have any issues.

Two years ago I had a $1,000 electric bill in August. It was a really hot month. I had been thinking about going solar for a long time and that was finally the last straw that broke the camel's back. I looked at a lot of different companies. I went to Costco and Sunrun was one of their vendors. We trusted Costco with a lot of things, so I thought that if I'd have any kind of issue, I could always fall back on Costco. It was pretty pleasant to deal with them. The guy came out and surveyed the house. Then about three weeks later, they came out and did the installation. They were done in one day so it was pretty painless. They put a battery in and they have this software monitoring that can be downloaded to keep an eye on the system. Also, Sunrun did the solar loan and they arranged it for me. It was so transparent.
Sunrun estimated the number of panels that they'd put up based on my usage. San Diego Gas & Electric is my utility provider and since I'm on net metering, they send me a little summary of my weekly use. I didn't get the solar system installed until October and then right away, we had a real rainy November and December. So, I didn't really get that much benefit out of it. I ended up paying about a $290 bill when I trued-up in November. Then this year, I started the same way so I just went ahead and paid the $200 bill. But right now, I am even and it looks like I'll probably actually get a little money back this year as opposed to a $1,000 electric bill in August. I've been very happy about that.

I got my Sunrun from Costco. I spoke to them and it seemed like an opportunity for me when we talked about electricity. Sunrun seemed like it was very good. Until now, it looks very good. It's working. They're wonderful too.

Sunrun's installers came and did their job. When they put the equipment up on my bedroom's roof, my sheetrock started to fall. But they told me that was not something that they caused - that the sheetrock on my bedroom was loose. I didn't know what to do about it, but they brushed me off so I wasn't very happy about that. It wasn't like that before they put the solar on there, but it's still there and it hasn't moved. It's not getting worse, but it's not very good either. So, I would have to put a piece of wood up there to push the sheetrock and hold that up, screw it back in, and then retexture and repaint it. That's a lot of work. When you're 72 years old, that's not a fun job anymore. But other than that, I'm very satisfied. Going solar has been a good thing for me. It's not as cheap or inexpensive as I thought it would be, but it's there.
Between paying TEP and paying solar, I'm almost at the same level. But I know I would be at that level for quite a while. I used to be about average with our regular TEP here. And at one time, I used to pay $85 a month. And then, every year, they redid your average. I was at the point where I paid $235 average a month. I'm now paying $154 plus the TEP, so I'm almost at $200. It's not that big a difference, but at least I know I wouldn't be hit all of a sudden with $350 or $400 payments.

Sunrun's enrollment process was really easy. The problem in the beginning was the system wasn't connected and it wasn't coordinated correctly with my electric company. So, my bill was higher than I thought it would be. We remodeled the house and bought it, and then it was under construction for a year. Sunrun did not put enough panels on initially because when we bought the house a year prior, we haven't lived in here, so they didn't have a true bill of ours to go off of. They installed panels based on prior bills. So, about 80% of my bills are covered. Now, it's much lower.

I went solar for the cost savings and Sunrun seems to be working fine. The sales rep was good and the installation was pretty painless. There was no interruption in my service. However, the price goes up a little bit more often than annual. It could reach a point where it doesn't make sense anymore but right now, it still does. Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to just buy outright.

Sunrun worked out good. They did what they were supposed to do and have done a good job of installation. I did not need to make any payments to them initially but every year, it goes up by 2%. Last year was $41. So, now, it is $43. It's a 20-year lease, so after 20 years, I can buy the system for whatever the price at the time.
However, a new panel has to be approved by them. Also, initially, they had given me a 20-year warranty on the roof and 20 years on the sun panels then they said they'd give me 20 years on the solar panels but only 10 years on the roof. Once you put this thing on top, there are holes that will be created. But I think I won't have a problem because I went up one time to see and everything looks very professional.
Their customer service is somewhat okay. Sometimes, it takes them longer to get things done and sometimes they don't do what they say. They told me that if I give them new customers, they'll give $350 to me and $350 to the new customer. I gave them couple of names. They both got Sunrun, but Sunrun did not give any money to me or them. Also, the sales staff talk a little bit more than what they can deliver and they keep on changing. They have 100 emails with me. Who has got the time to read all that? Also, the documents are so complicated. If they are somewhat easier, then it will be a lot better.
Everybody should get a solar panel so we are cutting down the carbon footprint. We use green power. That's the best way to do it. In my subdivision, there are several people who are thinking about getting it. They talked to me and asked, "Are you happy? It's a year now." I told them I'm happy. My bill has gone down substantially. Last month, it was only $7. In January when there was not much sun, it was $64. That is a difference.

I was a purchaser many years ago. I went out for at least 3 bids. They all varied with what they were gonna do, and I picked Sunrun ‘cause I was happy that the guy wasn't overselling me. He was real knowledgeable and nice. I also liked the fact that the rates were locked in. After I did that, everybody’s saying they’re gonna raise the rates of electricity again. I'm happy with everything except for the installation. I'm unhappy with the roofing guys from Nevada or California that Sunrun sent out here. I wouldn't hire them to do a dog house. These dudes apparently never walked on a tile roof before and they destroyed my roof. They tried to patch it. I took photos of that roof before they got on it and I also took photos of what they did. I called them up and said, “That's not gonna cut it. You guys didn't even put the right tile on the roof to fix it." They came back out and didn't do anything. I could tell from the photos I was taking.
I'm in Arizona and we got concrete tiles on the roof. They gotta match. There are thousands of different designs and these guys didn't even try to match it. One time, I didn't know they were coming and they not only destroyed the back roof, they walked up the front of the roof and cracked those tiles. These guys don't know what they're doing walking on this roof, or they didn't care.
When I called customer service, they wanted me to tell them what kind of tile was on the roof. I said, “You guys broke it. You go figure it out. I didn't put the roof on this house.” They sent out their expert troubleshooter guy that comes out to fix their messes. He was so overwhelmed. He said, “I'm gonna tell you the truth. I can't do this. We're gonna have to go hire a professional roofing company to come fix this mess.” They did finally do that. The guy came out and said they got the wrong tiles on the roof. He came back out with a crew. They picked everything up and put it back down again where these guys busted all these tiles up.
Other than that, I like the way it works. If I had to do it again, I’d put solar on because it does work really well. I'm at home, and I don't have the house at 72. I keep it on 77 during the day. It's comfortable while I'm sitting on the desk. I've been here since March and I continue to get a credit. So that's pretty cool. I like the readings that it gives me on the computer. I haven't had any service problems since it was installed.

Sunrun approached me at Costco. I asked them a few questions and we did an appointment for the sales rep to stop by. Sunrun is pretty good. When I was fairly new with them, I called one time because I was making a lump sum payment and their customer service was great. I'm very happy with everything. Now, I'm only paying $11 a month on my electricity bill.

I was talking to Michael ** for installing Solar Energy. After reviewing my annual electric cost, he sent me proposal in four meaningless pictures. I told him I wanted to see on paper, instead of, 'he said, she said'. He was reluctant to send the details in writing in terms of the contract. Instead of satisfying the client, he was so rude to hang up the phone abruptly, When I requested to view the contract. He wanted me to agree verbally for what the story was giving. Highly Disappointed!

I was interested in the benefits of solar and reviewed a few solar companies and chose Sunrun. They offered a package in terms of its rates and what they would do to my roof. They turned out to be a better package and opportunity than the other providers. The installation process was fine. They did things as they projected. They did it on a timely manner. The system has met my expectations in terms of its efficiencies and it seems to be working as advertised.
There was a leak on my roof that occurred during the rainy season. The company came out, inspected it, and agreed that they would repair and replace. This was about three months ago at the height of the pandemic and unfortunately, there's been a little response to resolving my outstanding issue. But it has more to do with the roofers that did the roofing job and Sunrun subcontracts that out to Independent Roofing.

I liked Sunrun because there wasn't a large out-of-pocket expense and they don't put anything against your house. They have excellent customer service. The lady that came out to introduce me to their solar company was very good at answering all questions. She was very thorough. Even afterwards, I had a question and I was able to call her and get that question answered. The folks that installed the actual product came out and installed it. There were some issues with my electrical and they helped me assess it. It was my issue so I had to fix that, which was no problem but they helped me address the problem and it was taken care of. It was pretty good. I'm seeing a difference on my bill. I have recommended someone to get Sunrun and they actually did and they loved it.

Sunrun maintains leased solar power systems. Not, my problem goes back to the end of March, my inverter has been shutting off with an Arc-fault error. Though it shows an error it if reset the system continues a brief time before it shuts down again. Sunrun sent a technician to repair system. The technician did nothing but report that the system was up and running. The technician had come at a time outside my scheduled appointment and did not announce his presence. He had come at a time that the system was running.
Later that same day the system tripped again. I called Sunrun and asked why the technician had not come for the appointment. The Sunrun operator stated that there was a technician at my house but he showed up a couple of days earlier. I told the operator that the system had tripped again, the operator stated that the inverter would probably have to be changed and an appointment would have to set to come and replace it.
After a couple of weeks I again called Sunrun in reference to my appointment, the operator stated that they were still waiting for a new inverter and they would call once one was received. After another month I called inquiring as the progress of the inverter, at that time I was told that due to covid they would not send anyone out until the lock down was lifted.
My city was entering phase 1 of reopening, and again I called Sunrun. This time they said that they were not sending anyone to repair my system because it was up and running. I told them reason the system was up and running was because I was constantly watching the inverter and resetting it after it shut off. I waited a couple of days until the inverter tripped again and called Sunrun. This time they stated that someone would get back to me to set up an appointment.
After about a week I again called Sunrun and had a appointment set for 8 days in the future. At the time of the setting of the appointment I told the operator that I wanted the technician to call me when he/she were coming and that I did not want them to just reset the system which I had been doing all along. The appointment was set for 8 days between 12PM and 5PM. The system had been down for over a week at this time with no production.
Day of the appointment 12PM - 5PM had come and gone at 5:01PM, my system was still showing the error message. I attempted to contact Sunrun but had to wait for them to call me back. When Sunrun called me back they stated that the technician was at my residence and had repaired my system. I told the operator that I had requested a call when the technician was on his way and that I had never received a call. At this time another appointment was set, this time two weeks in the future.
After the call to Sunrun I received a voice message on my cellphone from the technician that he had been at my residence. I tried calling him back but his voice mail was not setup. The next day looking at Sunrun's website the production records showed production from 9AM - 11AM, then nothing. The technician had come early and just reset the system, and after 3 hours the system went down again. Now I have wait two weeks now. Hopefully this time they'll do more than reset the system.
Hello Mr. Chin,

My roof leaked as soon as they installed panels and it was a fight getting them to fix it and it took them 6 weeks! Pigeons have nested in the panels ruining my yard & AC. My panels have even stopped working & Sunrun does nothing. The panels never produced enough to cover my use even though sunrun promised they would. Worst mistake of my life using them.

I was just not bowled away with the whole Tesla choice. It seemed overwrought to me. My daughter's a big environmentalist and was nagging me, so I thought, "Okay, why not?” Also, I like that with Costco, you got more of a warranty and the rebate, and I like Costco. The salesman that came to my house was really informative. He was pretty helpful. But I already made up my mind. He walked in and I told him I wouldn't do it unless there was battery backup, and there was. The installation was okay. I had a problem where it caused a leak in the roof and it was raining horribly when I found it. I called Sunrun and I had to get a little pissy about that, but they sent a painter out to repaint my kitchen that day and he was great. I'd use him again.
My only complaint is that when it was presented to me with the battery backup that I had to pick four circuits for it, I didn't pick the right ones because I wasn't aware of a couple things about how my house worked. For instance, I have a tankless water heater and it didn't occur to me to put that on as the backup. And now, I don't have hot water when there's a power outage. I talked to them but it can't be changed. That was pretty disappointing. Maybe I should have been given more time to think about it, or needed some more information. That's my biggest complaint. Also, at that time which was a year ago, the Tesla Powerwall wasn't an option. Now it is, and I'm also disappointed about that. But at the time when I did it, I thought that this would be enough capacity.
Also, I was asked at the time if I would ever add an electric car. At the time, I said no. And since then, I bought one, a Tesla, and I thought the system would be a little more nimble if I wanted to add more capacity, but apparently it's a bigger deal. I can't blame Sunrun for those because I didn't think it through well enough. But so far, I'm okay.

We were looking into going solar before. We've noticed that a lot of families said it's done big changes, neighbors, other places where we had lived before moving into the home. The Sunrun rep was really pushing it and saying that it would help us save a lot of money on our bills so we went with it. We didn't know how much the house would actually spend because we just moved into the house and we got the solars at the same time. We've had it for a year and a couple of months now. I was paying $98 on the solar and I was paying 150 on my light bill. So I was still paying more than what I would be saving. I also don't understand why it says that we sell $230 to APS, but I'm only saving $38 or $40 a month. That makes no sense to me.
My Realtor told me about Sunrun. He showed me bills where he wasn't paying anything in either of his houses because of the solars. He was paying around $20 and he had a credit of $100 there because of the solar. So I asked him about what was going on with the solar system and he said that it was probably because of the first year and then we would start to see the savings. But it had been a year and it didn't happen. The savings part was not where I was told it would be. I also never got the Visa cards that they said I was gonna get.

We now pay around $120 and on winter, we pay close to $200 because of the gas and we use the heater.

Sunrun had the best deal and was the most up-front. A lot of the other competitors either wanted to force us into a contract without looking at all the details or were really expensive and wouldn't be up-front with paperwork or documentation. Sunrun was really good about communication and gave us full copies of the contract and everything we needed. The changes they made were just common sense stuff. There was no bait and switch, which I've seen complaints of other companies on. So Sunrun was a really decent company. The installation was simple. Everything got done without any questions or any problems. It was about 2 days' worth of work, and they weren't even in our way.
It'd be kind of nice to have customer access to the portal that gives the live solar data but Sunrun has worked out fine. We've saved some money, but we've also increased our power usage quite a bit since it's so much cheaper now. I've enjoyed having them as service provider, though we're probably gonna buy them out in 5 years.

Hello Consumers: I would like to share my ongoing experience with SunRun solar company. I had solar installed at my residence 2 years ago. Couple of months ago I noticed that solar is not generating production and same time we kept our home on sale (April, 2020). I called Sunrun customer service to schedule an appointment. This is during COVID pandemic. 2.5 weeks later service guy visited and found that inverter needs to be replaced and I was told that in 2-3 weeks inverter will be replaced because they need to order, don't have any in stock. this happened in 2nd week of May.
As I mentioned earlier that our home is on sale, we got offer, pricing finalized, sale process started and planning to close escrow soon. unfortunate thing is I cannot close escrow because solar is not working. so I called Sunrun customer service in 1st week of June, they said they are still working, may be another 2-3 weeks. I explained them the urgency and I was bit frustrated.
On June 12th, I called customer service again and asked to escalate the issue further. one of their manager/case representative talked to me, said that he a good news, they got the inverter and someone from company called Sun Systems Technologies will call me in 2-3 days to schedule an appointment.Guess what today is 6/20, nothing happened.
I called customer service again on 6/18 to check on status as I did not received any call from Sun Systems Technologies, I was told to contact them directly instead of calling SunRun. So I did (its like we are at the mercy of Sunrun) called Sun Systems Technologies, they said they had a question for Sunrun about my service request and question was sent on 6/16 but they don't have reply yet to schedule an appointment. Again I called SunRun (same day) to find out the status, its like I am working for them. then I was told by SunRun that they talked to Sun Systems Technologies and I will receive call in 2 days. As I said before today is 6/20. nothing happened. I guess Sun Systems Technologies is closed today, I called them, no response. As expected it's been 40 mins now, I am still on call & waiting for someone to answer my call at SunRun customer service.
Now, I am worried that escrow closing will get further delayed and buyer will be frustrated as they have commitments to move from old house to new house and of course my blood pressure is high too because of this nonsense, pathetic customer service. Also I am contacting legal to get some advise to file a case, as my escrow closing is getting delayed and circumstances of delay are bad for me and for my buyer.
I never experienced such a pathetic customer service, SunRun is typical UPSELLING COMPANY. No service commitments. I am sure their management will learn more if they ever heard recorded calls. Here are the worst parts of this experience.
1. Whenever you call customer service you have to wait minimum 20-30 minutes if you're lucky you may need to wait more than 30 mins. Now we are going through COVID pandemic, its an excuse for them to say that customers needs to wait longer than waiting period.2. It's a $850 million dollar revenue company, cannot even carry sufficient inventory to service their customers. I guess they don't understand about customer service. they can only sell using tax credit technique.
3. No escalation management and of course no ownership.
4. Seriously worst customer service. Many times they don't know what they are talking about.
5. Though I explained the need of inverter replacement, no one seems to be understanding. I waited for almost 2 months and still waiting.
Here is my request(s).
1. Please don't buy solar installation from sunrun. They are purely an upselling company. If you ask for installation, within 24 hours someone will call you. If you ask for service, now you are on their mercy, you better be away from them.
2. I know that sunrun has a booth in some Costco stores. Don't fall in to sunrun trap when they explain you techniques, costco cards/discounts and tax credits (once I was victim of this trick). Tax credits, you can get from federal if you install solar from any registered solar company(nothing to do with sunrun). And for few hundreds dollars of costco cards/discounts its not worth, later you have to spend many hundreds of dollars visiting doctors because of high blood pressure and frustration.
Actually they deserve minus stars. Thanks for reading this review, hope my experience may help you to make decision to go with SunRun. I still need to wait to get inverter replaced before I close the escrow of home sale.
Good luck and best wishes.RK

Going solar was something I was contemplating. As far as energy is concerned, I was convinced it was a way for me to reduce my cost, granted it was done intelligently. And I thought that it would improve the value of my house on the market if I was selling it. But I was avoiding it because of the upfront costs that I couldn't afford. Then, when Sunrun contacted me, they convinced me to go with them because of the program that resolved the issue of the upfront money. I was very satisfied with the enrollment all the way. Communication was great and I was not pressured. And I was clearly explained what would happen, when it would happen, and what it would imply for me.
At the time it was installed, it was done well and quickly, that it corresponded to what I expected. They even fixed, free of charge, the roof on which the solar panels were going. Then, we had a trying experience that made it possible for me to appreciate their after-installation service much more. About two weeks after the installation was operational, the house got hit by a thunderstorm and it caused several damages to the house. I was lucky there was no fire, but we discovered that four out of the 14 panels had been burnt by the strike. They were the ones that noticed it because they constantly monitor my output to make sure the installation is working well which is something very unusual. They alerted me that I was not producing what was expected and they sent a crew who identified the issue, ordered new panels, and came later on to replace those panels. They were really, really beyond the call of duty.
Also, now that I have used my financial credit, I pay the connection fee to Vermont Electric, but I am not paying any kilowatts because I am manufacturing enough and I get a credit that can be used in bad months this winter. Financially speaking, it is a real benefit. And I noticed with such amusement that since I had my solar panel installed, two other houses in my neighborhood decided it was the right thing to do. It is kind of satisfying.

I got my service in 2013–before batteries were a thing. Sunrun now sells batteries, but refuses to alter my service in any way to incorporate a battery. I understand it would cost money, but they are unwilling to do absolutely anything with a leased system. The only thing they will do is charge through the end of the lease, and charge me for all my equipment. Zero flexibility. I’ve gotten quotes from several local solar companies and they are all cheaper and more flexible.

I had been looking into solar for quite a while and I had a couple guys come over and give me a demonstration. When Sunrun came and knocked on my door, I liked the presenter. He wasn’t forceful nor was he trying to act like I didn’t know what I was talking about. He listened and I listened to him. His presentation was solid and I liked their product, so I went with him. Costco was also backing it, so that confirmed it for me. I was told the process was going to be a bit longer than it actually took, so I wouldn’t be too anxious for it. I’m a salesman, so we always say, “under promise, over produce,” and when the guy came in, he was in and out. He got it done and the process didn’t take long. It was very simple and they did a very clean job as well.
All in all, everything was a smooth process and it wasn’t a pressure situation. Everything worked according to clockwork. In the long term, it’s going to be a great benefit to me as far as the savings are concerned. From where I live, my energy bill is high in the summertime and I was able to see savings on my electricity bill. Plus, the energy is green.

I have had solar panels on our house now for 1 year and 4 months and the Inverter broke down twice already within 4 months apart. We had a power surge and the system was not able to reboot itself so now SunRun has to come out, who knows when, and replace the inverter. In the meantime, living in Arizona where the temperature has been over 100 degrees every day, it means paying higher electric bill.
My husband and I are both on SS and have a restrictive budget. The reason we went solar was to save money. Sun Run is no help when it comes to paying their bill. You don't pay and they simply cut out your service. It seems that they don't keep much of an inventory of products that they know breaks down. Now depending if they have the product in stock it will be 2 weeks before they can come out to replace the inverter. If they don't have the part, then we are looking at 4 to 6 weeks before repairs.
Now tell me, how can a company stay in business with constant breakdown of the inverter and they are aware of this problem. Their license for installing and servicing customers should be revoked! We the consumers are paying twice for this so called "save money by investing in solar for your house!" I wished I had known about this before I signed on the dotted line. If the unit breaks down from a simple surge then in my opinion, it's junk. I am mad as hell!!!

Initially our system was working fine and the installation was super easy. However we noticed that our system had not been producing solar since 02/2020 which production did not catch and we did not notice it 'til May 2020. I had to call twice to find out when someone was going to come out to fix it. Well the technician came out and did not fix it. I did a Google search of the error code and found out it is a hardware issue. I do not know why they did not just send the equipment needed to fix it. I have sent several emails that have not been answered. I am paying for my solar lease and sky high electric bill because the system is still useless. So we are pushing almost 4 months without our solar system working. I would not go with SunRun again.

I went through Costco, including follow-up, and the process was fine. There were rules and regulations, which are a Costco satisfaction guarantee. It took Sunrun a long time to do the installation because of the city permit, but once they got it, they got everything done in two days. I had a couple of issues with the worker, but I complained and they came back and fixed it, so I’m really happy with it. However, they need to improve the finance company they used. Loanpal is the worst company to deal with. As far as Sunrun is concerned though, their customer service is great. Perfect. When I need them, I call them and they're there.

When the representative explained to us the pros of solar, he ignored to mention that we will be obligatory moved from from a tiered plan with SCE (which we had before) to the time of use plan. As my bill was never too high to start with (never went into the 3rd tier), that means I will now pay 1/3 more than I did before: I learned this from SCE agent over the phone. So, I ended paying Sunrun high cost to fix my roof (which I never saw, they sent me photos!) and gave my roof for 30 years for a company that will make me pay more for electricity.
When on the phone with the SCE she advised a different TOU plan than the one Sunrun put me on, which may be a little less worse (even that needed research). And she advised not to use the AC from 4-9 pm in the summer, something I never had to do before!!! In a nutshell, if you are on a tiered plan and don't pay much to begin with, don't get solar. NO ONE FROM THE SOLAR COMPANY WILL TELL YOU THAT.

My father had solar panels at his house in Bend, Oregon with Sunrun. It took a while to get started with Sunrun because I live in a three-story condo so that required a manlift. There were issues during the inspection where they had to move one panel and move it to another part of the roof. It took a few days. But then once it was up and running, it seems to work as advertised.
When I generated enough power, my bill is like $13 a month, but then it ran out in January, so my bill is a little bit bigger for three and a half months. One issue I have is I have a pigeon nesting under the panels. I am a little worried about the long-term effect of pigeon poop and pigeon nest. I contacted Sunrun but never got a response. I emailed and got the automated email back, but no one followed through, so that was a little frustrating.

I happened to go to Costco and Sunrun had a booth there. A couple of my friends got their solars put in through the company and I trusted my friends' judgment. They had done the analysis and they thought Sunrun was good so I went with them as well. The salesperson was good and he was patient. He came a couple of times and answered all the questions. But after the implementation, what he said was a lot different from what was happening. I wasn't too pleased with the team that came to look at the system. The last team came in probably four weeks ago and they fixed a problem under 45 minutes. But for the same problem, the previous teams said, “Can't be done.” I have written Sunrun's customer service about my feedback. I have no idea what they do with the feedback and whether they work with the teams, train them, and talk to them. Right now, it's okay though.
Also, I am not too happy with Sunrun's website. It does not give me the information that I want. My son has a solar system from Tesla and he can control it from his phone and from his laptop. I can't do that and it frustrates me. I do not know what the system saves. It does not give me the data the way I want it and I have no idea how much is going to the grid. They tell me PG&E will tell me that. The bill comes from PG&E and I get that. But who will send that to me? I don't have it. If Sunrun gives me the information on saying this is what I generated and this is what they sent out so, this is what I should expect, then that's fine. But Sunrun doesn't give it to me. I haven't gotten the final bill from PG&E. It was supposed to come in May. I'm still waiting to be pleasantly surprised or pleasantly shocked when I see the rollup because I have no idea. I can't say for sure if I would recommend people going with Sunrun. But I'll give them benefit of doubt.

Sunrun explained the package as buying the equipment over 20 years. Monthly payments based on solar energy production. Package was a power purchase agreement where Sunrun owns and maintains the equipment and after 20 years the contact starts over again. The price per kilowatt of solar energy produced increases each year; at the end of the contact it was over 50 cents per kilowatt produced. The contact benefits Sunrun in all ways and does little to benefit the homeowner. Sunrun receives the rebates, not the homeowner. The homeowner is charged for solar energy produced by the panels whether it is used by the homeowner or not.

In November they wanted to connect the system correctly, which I did not agree to. Because of the coming winter.
They called me in February and let me know that they would like to send me a technician to connect the system. I currently expect from Sunrun compensation for my losses related to losses caused by their unreliable approach to business (no electricity production throughout the year) and moral attitudes related to the stress they have given me because of their lack of competence. This is my first review ever, which indicates my level of dissatisfaction with this company. We explained our electrical needs to the representative, which included adding an air conditioner, EV, and increasing sq-footage of house. The representative created a design that was way undersized, and installed an electric panel for additional $2K+ cost that was 100amps - which absolutely did not fit our needs.
We requested an electric panel upgrade by same electrician to 200 amps, and cost-sharing since we would have to start from scratch otherwise. They said they will try to fix, and kept stringing us along for months till we paid off the entirety of bill. After that, they left phone message that they could not do anything. This was extremely frustrating since they had no intention to fix the problem, but kept us waiting. And now, we need to install a new panel for $3-5K additional cost, having already paid $2K+ to Sunrun contracted electrician. Even the representative who sold us the system told us he has quit the company. I have never had such a poor experience with any company before. Especially, for such an expensive project.

The salesman was very nice but promised things that his company, Sunrun, did not uphold. We had Sunrun contract to replace our roof before the solar panels were installed. Sunrun said they would ensure the roofing company, out of Burlington, would do a good job. The salesman went on to say that the company is great cleaning up, making sure there was no nails remaining.
The first rain, our roof leaked! I called Sunrun and they sent a guy out to look at our roof and told us that it was an old issue. Our roof had not leak before they installed the new roof. In fact it rained days before the new roof was replaced. Sunrun refused to take ownership in the roofing companies errors. I had to hire someone to fix our roof. He found that the roofers stepped on (or some how bent) our metal roof (not replaced) and bending the metal, cause water to leak. The pictures clearly show the step marks and the bend, broken metal. Also, the man I hired to fix the roof found handfuls of nails on the roof. I would watch him walk and bend down and scoop up handfuls of nails. The roofer also found that they did not seal most of the attachments to my roof from the solar panels.
Sunrun never returned my phone calls or email after I told they that I had proof of their neglect! On top of the roof issues, I have pavement, approx. 1' out from my house, running the outside of my house to help protect my house foundation. They broke through the pavement for the wiring of the panels, understandable. NOT understandable, they left chucks of the pavement in my yard and never replaced the pavement. I asked they to fix that as well, never heard a word from them. This is not a company to do business with as they do not uphold their part and do not stand by their word or their work! Once there is a problem, you never hear from them again.

We signed up with Sunrun to purchase (not lease) a solar energy system. After going through the process of passing the engineering inspections, getting approvals, financing, etc., the contract was signed in July 2019 with install scheduled for October 2019. Then Sunrun bailed with no (initial) explanation. On installation day the crew arrived, but promptly left after two hours, claiming they were "missing parts." After waiting for word from Sunrun, we contacted them via phone and email, but never received word for weeks...until we received a generic CANCELLATION notice from Costco Services Dept., NOT Sunrun.
Our contract was signed, and we had paid in advance. Calls and emails went unanswered. Finally, a month later, we received a short email from our project coordinator stating that the complexity of our roof was the reason for disqualification. Evidently the install team failed to inform us (as well as the rest of Sunrun's corporate team, when our inquiries went unanswered.) Their company's concept and website initially seemed great, but the employees that were assigned to guide us were clueless and noncommunicative. We were shocked that Costco would use such an unprofessional company and we informed their corporate office of our very unfortunate exerience. Buyer beware.

I’m an Ambit consultant and we work hand in hand with Sunrun. It's a marriage of convenience. Ambit and Sunrun work together in a lot of states. Enrollment was very easy. Permits were handled by Sunrun so I had no necessity to go to any supplier or utility to ask for permits. I didn’t even have to go to the Village and ask for permits. But after I signed up, I actually put them off because the weather in January of last year was so horrendous. We had a couple of days that were minus 20. I called up and told the girl in the office not to send anyone to work on our roof in that weather. She said she was glad I was aware of that. I had worked outside for a lot of years. I know what it is to work in weather like that and if you’re on up high, you’re exposed to a lot of wind – not only the temperature. You have a lot of wind chill. I understood the people were not making any money but in the long run, they're better off.
My panels were installed on the 22nd of February last year and the system was actually activated the 26th of March. So it took approximately a month for Commonwealth Edison to get off their butt and approve the connection. From then on, it has worked great. I'm extremely satisfied. I go out and check how much I generate every couple days and just say, “Whoa, wow. Look at this.” Then I check my electric bill and see. There was actually a screw-up on my April bill last year but ComEd overcharged. They disregarded the fact that I had solar panels. They just charged me an electric bill but I got that back.
In my first year, summer was absolutely great. In December, I paid one and a half month’s electric bill. January was a two-month electric bill because we had a lot of cloudy weather and I have the Sunrun cost plus ComEd. So even though I have a lot of panels, they didn’t generate sufficiently through the cloud cover. But I expected that and my summer electric bills more than made up for it. I was between $16 and $18 a month, which is a connectivity fee with Commonwealth Edison. I can’t get away from that.
I was also there during the entire installation and I took pictures. There was a four-man crew and they were extremely efficient. They wasted no effort. There was a first crew that came in and sistered the joist inside the roof because Sunrun demanded that. Their engineering team wanted the additional support. But the four people that were on the roof were installing the plates that go between the shingles. They installed the standoffs to hold the panels up. One did the wiring and one did all the piping. It was a total one-day installation and they installed 26 panels on my roof plus the inverter. They also connected it to the box inside, through the meter standard. Everything was all very professionally done. They were quality people.
They did an extremely good and efficient installation, and it worked immediately. The Village had somebody come out and inspect it. He was going to fail it and I asked why. I happened to work for an electrical contractor at one time and I told him to look at it again. It was connected properly. The Sunrun rep was there too. The person from the Village asked me what I knew about it so I told him. Then he said I was right. Everything was connected exactly the way it was supposed to be.

Later, I was told I did not need the second contract. This, because now the trees were blocking too much sun. I was at the point of waiting for the permits...and today I am informed that they can no longer due the job. "You should try another company". THIS IS COMPLETE DISREGARD FROM MY TIME AS A BUSY PHYSICIAN. CONCLUSION: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

When we moved, our new electricity costs were ridiculously high although we hadn’t changed anything that should have made an impact. We literally moved from two minutes away so it wasn’t even like we had lived somewhere far away. So, when that happened, we started looking for other ways to save on our electricity. We did a couple of little short stints with third-party electric providers but trying to get them cancelled on time and everything was a hassle. We started thinking about solar and I saw that my friend had gone solar and she was saving money, so we decided to look into it. At that time, our sales rep was working with a different company and I just got a hold of the person that she recommended who happened to be working with Sunrun.
You're supposed to have one survey of your house, your roof and property, and the first person who came out looked at our house. We were having the panels put on the garage but they didn’t check it so they had to come back out. Then, the second person they sent was new and he messed up at every appointment he had been to that day and he didn’t do everything he was supposed to do. So, they had to send a third person out. I was a little disgruntled about having to have people constantly come back out because we have dogs and it was a hassle. But they gave us a gift card to make up for it, so that was helpful and it made me feel better. So, enrolling wit them wasn’t really hard. It was just the fact that it was only supposed to happen once and it happened three times. Finally, the third person that they sent out did a good job, checked everything and was thorough.
We had a couple of things in our yard that we kinda had built in, like a playground for our kids and things, and where Sunrun wanted to run the lines, the second person who clearly didn’t know what he was talking about, told me that they would have to run it through there. I said that we couldn't tear that up and he said that he didn't know what I could do. So some of that was a little bit upsetting. We've already signed everything. It all worked out but if they were a little more careful of making sure people were either trained, that would be good. But other than that, it wasn’t bad.
We met with Sunrun mid-August and they installed them the first week of December. As of December 26th, the electric company had signed off on us turning them on and we started making electricity right away. This time last year, I would not have been sure if I had made the right choice. I recommend not to start the process where they're gonna turn on in winter because we were paying Sunrun and then we were also paying probably $100 to the electric company. Also, on January and February, it was gloomy and the sun was not really out. So, that caused me to panic a little because it was more than what we were paying with just electric. But now that we've had them through spring, summer and everything, we pay our fee of 117 for the equipment to Sunrun and then, we pay $16 a month to the electric company, which is actually a fee that they add on your bill. So, we're not paying them anything for actual electricity.
At first, when the installers came on installation day, they were gonna have to run it in some really cockeyed way that it was gonna look terrible on the side of our farmhouse. I ended up talking with the installation manager who was overseeing it that day and I told him that I didn’t want that run like that. He said he would think about it and he would see if he could work something else out. It took him 15 minutes and he figured out a way so it’s kinda hidden in the metal pipe through the attic that's not even in my way and it comes out the other side. It’s not ugly on my house. I ended up having to handle the situation and if I would have been a person who would do it however they want, I would have been unsatisfied with how it was installed on my house.
After they left, there was a spot where they put the box in the side of your house or garage. The wire comes down the side of the building and then they put almost like a cap over it, so it's protected and they put it in and then they moved it over a couple of inches. Where they had taken it off, there were little, tiny screw holes in the siding and you couldn’t really see them but then, throughout winter, they got brittle and it busted out a little part of our siding on our garage. I contacted them, and it took a month or so in order to get someone out here. But they made that right too.
You should make sure that going solar works for you. People should ask questions, specifically how they’re gonna run things through because our sales rep was nice and answered a lot of our questions but there were some things that he was kind of quick on. He said he would be here on installation day but then, he never was there on any of the surveys or the installation day because of some personal things going on, which I could understand. But on the other hand, I didn’t know what I was doing. So, it would have been nice if he would have been there.

We have an electric car and the main thing about what Sunrun was offering was all the electricity would be provided by our solar. It’s a little complicated process, but they explained it nicely. During daytime, we produce more and we put it back into the grid. In the evening, we take from the grid. When we’re at the time of usage, it’s gonna be a little bit less money. That’s how we have net positive. However, when they signed me up for the loan, they should have told me it was gonna be 8% initial charge. I found that out after I signed all the paperwork, and at that time, it was too late to back out. Also, if I have researched it, I probably wouldn’t go with the Sunrun because after that, a couple of my co-workers installed solar too. Looking at their facilities, their app is very accurate while Sunrun's app is not that accurate.

I've had the system for 5 years and not had an issue with Sunrun until a few months ago. My system indicators have not shown any power generation for the past four months. I called customer service to report the problem. After several weeks and no response I called again. They directed me to call their service supervisor directly. I called several times leaving a message as the service manager was never at his/her desk, no replies. Finally I called the first number back and expressed my total disgust with their quality of service. About a week later a service technician showed up. Replaced the meter and told me the system would be rebooted in two days. It has been over a week and still no power generation. Now I'm told it will be next week before someone is able to man the computer at their service center to reboot the system. Had I know this was their quality of service I never would have chosen a different provider.

Our bill was $400 in June and July, which was the average for California. It was expensive so we decided to go solar and I am completely satisfied with my decision. It has been great so far. I found Sunrun on the internet. They took care of everything during the enrollment process. It took a total of three months because of all the permits that needed to be pulled but they communicated and the app let me know what stage I was in. The installers took care of the colored pipes and cleaned up, and everything was really nice.

We were in a new place and going solar seemed worth looking into. A sales guy came and visited twice but he didn’t give us all the information we wanted. We decided to look around and we looked at a better economic deal in general and places that enabled us to buy the equipment ourselves with the low-cost loans from the state. It would’ve been a better deal if I was younger but in our situation, doing the lease made a lot of sense, which was what we did. Early on, I had a question or two that I needed to get an answer to. I didn’t understand what was going on but I had no serious problems. There was a lot of hold up during the installation because the rules changed just about the time we were about to set up. It didn’t affect us as much as it affected Sunrun and it was a lot of paperwork for them so it took longer than we expected but it was not their fault.

I’m an electronic engineer and I know the value of solar energy services. Primarily, the issue has to do with higher utility bills, which was why I started getting into it. I ended up looking over the contracts between Sunrun and two other companies to see how they structured it and what they promised. Sunrun came out on top and enrolling with them was straightforward. Since the installation of the equipment, the utility costs for me have gone significantly down. I have neighbors that I’ve talked with and they’ve talked with Sunrun. Their experience is different than mine because things have changed since we had ours put in. So, the landscape has shifted a little bit. People should check them out and do their due diligence and pick what's best for them.

There was a person walking around the neighborhood when we were sitting out in our deck one day. I've always been wanting solar but I never pursued it. I was relaxed and had a few moments so I talked to the guy, which I usually wouldn't do. We ended up enrolling in the program and the solar panels were installed. The installation was a piece of cake and the guys who did it were great. Customer service was top-notch too. Sunrun has given us what we want. One thing I dislike though is the stinking bill we get every month. But other than that, it does what it says and it works great. It would also be nice if we could convert it to have battery backup at some point and to know we have that in case of a power loss, rather than having a generator. I'd like to make sure what's available to us if we wanted to and what that cost would be. All in all, Sunrun got the system going on and they're good.

I've been procrastinating for years about having solar panels installed. I waited for the programs to get better. Then I saw the incentive package with a couple of thousand dollars worth of gift cards. It seemed to fit me and it was time. I ended up with a free roof. But if f I were younger, I would recommend buying as opposed to leasing. One would be far better off in the long run but seeing that I'm 67, it didn't make any sense to spend that kind of money so I didn't lease. Apart from that, Sunrun has been great. Anytime I had any questions or issues, I made one phone call and it would be either taken care of or the questions were answered. The installers did a great job too.

I read the reviews and ended up picking out Sunrun. The installers were very professional and efficient. They did well. Then initially, it looked like there will be a credit. Right now, it's become making payment again. The usage is very similar as before but they're not charging too much. They charge 10 to $20 range per month. Overall, everything went smoothly and I don't have any negative feelings about the service. In fact, I will get a second home and I'm thinking of installing Sunrun.

Everything was great with the installation and the communication. The young lady that we first talked made it sound too good to be true, and she took a topographical photo and she said we were good for the 23-panel installation with 99% efficiency. About a month and a half later, they sent a gentleman out for a site survey. He came out and he saw the trees. He said these trees are 30 feet taller than what the aerial photo had. When we started the process and signed the contract, he did not say anything about that there needed to be any kind of a modification to the 23 panels that we were promised that we signed the contract for. When we got the first bill from Met-Ed, we noticed that it was exceeding with the Sunrun bill that we originally paid Met-Ed before Sunrun ever came into existence.
At first, we were promised that the solar panels would provide 99% of our electricity. But in reality, they are only producing 60%. We went back and forth with phone calls and emails, and it turned out that they said the trees were too tall. They first took the aerial photos that they did have and then they sent somebody out here. They saw the trees. They claimed that nothing needed to be cut down. They would not pose a problem at all. And then they came back and they said something else. Meanwhile, the contract had been signed. They told us that in order to get 99%, they would have to install additional 10 panels. We told them we were okay with that and asked them if it can be done. They said it can be done, but then we have to go through the whole process all over again. There would be two boxes on the side of the house. Met-Ed is the company that we use for the remainder of our electricity so there would then be two bills from them and then two separate bills from Sunrun. We basically came to a stalemate.
We went back and forth and somebody said there was a modification done, which we knew nothing about. But doing the DocuSign, someone signed my wife's name to do a modification. So instead of 23 panels, it became 13 panels. No one called me about it. No one stopped by. When the four gentlemen put the panels on the roof, we asked where were the other panels and they told me that this was all they were told to bring. We said that was not right, and then they told us that they would have someone contact us.
When they brought 13 panels out instead of 23 panels, we tried to call the installation coordinator almost a dozen times, but we got nothing. There was no response via email or phone. She's a useless entity. We would love it for them to correct the whole problem. We had been telling people all about how wonderful they were to deal with. A couple of friends were amazed and interested but we went back and told every single one of them to not call them because they will screw them over.

I've been hearing about solar for a while and we got solar panels on our building at my job. I got Sunrun off the internet and the rep was nice. Enrolling with them was smooth and there was no headache. I didn’t have to go out of my way. The installers came and put it up. They explained and did everything. Right now, the bill is $110. It used to be about $80 so maybe we didn’t have enough sun for the panels to work properly. But I’ve been producing solar energy for a year now and it's nice to have to save you energy and money plus, it's maintenance-free, which is what I like about it. I don't have to worry about it so I don't have to babysit it and everything's good. I got a lot of friends who would like to have the solar panel too so Sunrun gotta learn how to do it on flat roofs. I got a lot of business for them.

The first several months were very rocky and there were a lot of hiccups. But once it started to go and work, it’s been great. We’ve been producing a lot of energy. We got our true-up bill and it was $400 from Edison. They didn't count the first few months because we weren’t producing anything for several months. That was when we had to go on Edison for a while and that was what was reflecting in those true-up bills.
I called Sunrun and they said they would look into it. Considering the circumstances of our rocky start and that we produced well below the guaranteed amount that we were supposed to be getting for that first year, they were going to somehow fix it so they would give me a credit. And that way, it would offset the $400 that I owe Edison. The rep said she would look in and by next Tuesday, they will know more about if the people that reviewed this would say it’s okay that they’re gonna take care of it this year or if I have to wait till next year. It would be really nice if they could somehow reimburse us.
Everything was officially turned on about February 19th last year, so we missed all those months of production, but we still had to pay our contractual monthly PPA agreement. So we were kind of in a poor spot at that point. Things were finally ironed out and it was through patience and consideration and really nice help from Sunrun. They were very nice. Every step of the way, they go, “Oh, so sorry. We’ll try to fix that.” But it was through no fault of anyone. It was something about the way that things were set up.
I picked Sunrun because I did the homework and I found out that they were one of the leading proponents of renewable energy and they had a pretty good record. We talked to Matthew and he was very nice. We sort of talked it over and came to an agreement that we would do the PPA. We are glad we did that despite all the problems along the way. But even from the get-go, the workers came out and said they were gonna put in 21 panels. But I told them that I was supposed to have 19 and a battery. So they had to go away and they didn't come back out again until weeks later. And then they finally got it all set up. I’m glad we are solar because it’s nice to know that we’re saving $75 a month.

I did a lot of research looking for what might be the best deal for us and my friends next door put solar in for themselves. I went over and looked at it to see what was going on and I liked what they had. I checked with a couple of other companies but I liked the program that Sunrun had. There was no money upfront, which was the reason I decided to go with them. They worked with my HOA and all I had to do was sign the contract and start paying monthly. The installers were very professional, friendly and there was no mess. They did it in a day just as they promised.
I would have Sunrun for one year in March and by then, I’ll see what the SDG&E says about what I owe them. Hopefully, it’s nothing. The last couple of bills have been all credit on my side. It was not much but some and I don’t care if it’s nothing that I have to pay them because having this on here has cut my electric bill by $70 a month. We had been looking at getting solar energy service on and off for a couple of years and we finally decided to do it. We got Sunrun solar through Costco. Their sales guy was wonderful and very informative. He really knows a lot of information and was upfront and honest about a lot of things. He really stepped in and got me what was promised. Then the installation went really well when it finally got agreed upon.
The design of the system is perfect. It suits our home and it gives us the energy we need. But I did have a problem and I did my due diligence. We had no electricity over half the house. The washer, dryer, water heater, air conditioning, heater, and Wi-Fi were all out. Sunrun told me that I had to call an electrician to diagnose the problem to verify that it wasn’t the electrical in my house. He didn’t touch any of their equipment but he went through everything. The person on the phone couldn't understand the scope of the problem and how big it was. It couldn’t wait until they could get it checked out here 13 days. We have four adults in this house and two big dogs, and waiting two weeks for them wasn't gonna work.
The electrician talked to Sunrun on the phone. He went through the process that they were telling him to shut it off and turn it back on. Shutting the entire system down and going back on the grid didn’t fix the problem. I had already done that twice. He kept telling them that the problem was in their equipment. It was a long day on the phone with them. There are people that pick up the phone and they’re just going by a book. They’re not really listening to the scope of what is going on in your home. As the homeowner, I did my due diligence to identify the problem with the licensed electrician. If I didn’t know how to get ahold of the tech that came and helped me with my system when it was first set up directly, I would still be sitting here without electricity in my house. Basically, the solution was just locating the inverter switch where the only person that was supposed to go in was a certified technician to flip that switch back on. It was a matter of flipping a switch.
Sunrun is a good company, but they have some internal process things they need to work out and they need to train their internal employees better. In order to get a problem solved, you have to be the squeaky wheel and I’m not one to just sit back and wait for things. Plus, my situation was pretty big. I can’t run on a house without hot water or heat or air conditioning or a lot of things for two weeks because they can’t get a tech to me.
Sunrun is selling these big systems that cost a ton of money and they need to back it up with support. When you have a problem and you have to go through their customer service to get a tech to your house, that’s the downfall. They're supposed to get the right person to you. But they don’t know what they’re doing and they’re not listening to the problem. Their customer service people are not trained and not knowledgeable. If it wasn’t for the sales guy and the tech guy, I probably wouldn’t have been with Sunrun. Also, the equipment, the setup, and how it serves up in our home are wonderful.

My wife is a paralegal and she had me verify a lot of information with the sales side of it. We feel that there was a lot of misrepresentation that went on, and I have this documented from the emails that were sent to me. In trying to clear that up with the customer support, all I could get was, “Well, you should’ve read your contract. We’re not responsible.” To this point, my initial contact there did get back in touch with me and she said to give it a year and see how it goes. She added that sometimes you have some up and down months. She said that they constantly monitor the system to make sure that it’s producing what it should be producing. I told her that it was not. It was producing half of what it should be producing.
I recently got a call from them and they’re gonna come out and take a look at a battery problem. My last conversation with them, they told me that they are monitoring us all the time. But with my phone call to them yesterday, the last time my system produced was the 1st of the month, and it hasn’t produced since. In their frequently asked questions, it says that a lot of times, it appears that it’s not producing if we haven’t been updated yet. So their online app isn’t showing accurately. It hasn’t been updated. This is the second battery that’s having a problem. It’s gonna be a month out of service, but they feel that they’re not responsible.
We tried to be patient and we tried to understand the whole thing. We’re trying to learn. They keep saying that we have to change the way we use electricity. I told them that I was not talking about usage. I was talking about production. I asked them what was their system trying to produce? They kept telling me that they were not responsible for what it produced. We don’t understand that part.
A friend of mine recommended Sunrun to me because he had them do it. He was quite satisfied with it during that year. He was very satisfied with the installation, although American Electric did it instead of Sunrun because they got too busy. They sub it out and that’s not a problem. But during the second year, he showed lack of production. He called Sunrun about it and he got this big fat check to compensate for his lack of production. But the people that I’m talking to are telling me that they don’t do that. At the time that I was referred to them, they were the largest. So you would think they’re credible, but apparently, not credible enough. I’m quite upset over the whole thing.

We met a Sunrun sales representative in March of 2019. We were pleased with all the benefits of going solar. As both me and my wife are retired, we looked at this as a means to save on our limited income. During the process, the rep, Hunter ** promised that if we install a new system we would receive a thousand dollar sign up bonus. We went online in July 2019, and though I'm pleased so far with our solar system, we're very disappointed with the fact that no bonus ever was delivered. We have tried numerous times to contact service center as well as making calls to Infinity, which I was told from SunRun that they have to release approval of the bonus first.
What's upsetting is that we made a referral to our neighbors who are long time friends of ours to listen to what Hunter ** had to say about solar. In their case, they were required to put a new roof before they could receive the new panels. They were promised that SunRun would be paying half the cost of the roof, which until today they have not. All we're looking for is someone who will answer the phone when we call. Both us and our neighbors have text records of our agreement with Hunter **.

In early 2019, we contracted with Sunrun to have one of their arrays mounted on our roof, with the usual contractual agreement. Their salesman pretty much stated that, in addition to monthly power savings, we would get a refund from the power company after the annual "true up", when the additional power created by the system, over our usage, would be paid for (to us).
In point of fact, the system grossly under-performed, from the start. Sunrun knew it, we knew it. After a year, we owe the power company (San Diego Gas and Electric) an additional $516. To understand Sunrun's mistake, you need to know that our home has a two-story, western addition, which shades the lower roof for much of each day. We pointed this out to the company--before seeing the design for the array, after seeing the design, and when asked to fill out online surveys (on maybe two occasions).
Any of their staff that was involved in the installation could see this over-shadowing part of the house. After noon, they could see the large shadow it cast. But, as they explained to us, the array design team is located in Colorado. They use a satellite image to come up with a design. As depicted on the proposal they showed us, it is a direct satellite view, which doesn't reveal the height of the second story. It was copied early in the day, it appears, because the shadow had not yet formed.
As I say, despite our warnings about the array being in shadow, they assured us that things were fine. In fact, as stated above, we owe over $500 for just the first year. Sunrun's contract protects them pretty well. When I called them seeking remedy, they explained they weren't even constrained to worry about it until the two-year anniversary of the panel installation. That would be February of 2021. At that point, they would reimburse us for the "under-performance" of the array. By my calculation, they will be liable for only about half the money that we will have paid by that time, which will be over a thousand dollars.
The company could have done several things to avoid this outcome. Someone "on site" could have emphasized, in their report to the design team, the over-shadowing western extension of the roof. The team, itself, could have used one of any common apps to view our roofline from an angle, rather than from completely vertical. Anyone could have noted the concerns that we both voiced and wrote down on several occasions. This is not competent company performance. It reflects a desire to keep up a mad pace of installing arrays, without much attention to the particularities of each location.

Generally I had a good experience with Sunrun sales rep. Nothing bad to say. However strongly consider any LEASE before you sign. In my humble opinion leasing solar equipment places the company at a great advantage over the homeowner. The relationship is far from equitable. Basically the company is using YOUR property to their advantage. The company gains all the Federal, State, and Local tax credits. Zero to the homeowner. If for some unforeseeable event happens and one must sell one's house, the homeowner must pay off the lease. If the future owner does not want to assume the solar lease. The rep did not make clear what happens to the equipment if the new owner does not want to assume the lease. Worst case scenario the panels are removed by Sunrun and homeowner may very well be stuck putting a new roof on house before any potential buyer will buy. IT IS NOT FREE ENERGY!
Despite what the rep shows you, you will ALWAYS have a utility bill, it will be approximately 20%less dependent upon energy produced by the panels. BUT YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE A BILL! Essentially your property is being used to make a solar company rich. Don't fall for the "argument" that it is the Moral thing to do! After-all in the case of Sunrun the CEO gave herself a six million dollar bonus!

We are senior citizens and new to Sun City West AZ. We saw their promotion on a local Phoenix TV station and noticed several of my neighbors had solar panels so I gave them a call. Several days later, Eric, the fast talking salesman who was on TV showed up at our home. Eric immediately began spewing BS to my wife and I promising us things that we suspected were impossible such as now more electric bills, a new roof and countless rebates due to government subsidies that were soon to run out and we needed to act fast. Eric promised the Sunrun panels were so effective that we would have no electric bill and would receive an check/monthly rebate from APS.
Eric stated that Sunrun’s panels would produce electricity at a cost of $.12 KW/hr. He asked what we were paying from APS and asked to see our latest bill. Like most electric companies, APS has a confusing bill which doesn’t list the KW/hr separately and rolls the taxes and charges into a difficult to understand total monthly bill. Eric pulled his calculator, looked at our bill and told us we’re were paying $.18 /KHR and therefore we would be making money every month from their system. Eric then started the high pressure sales pitch wanting us to sign various screens on his IPad. I told him I wanted to do some research before we proceeded and Eric became belligerent and we asked him to leave. I called APS and asked them for a breakdown on our bill and APS told me we were paying $.12 /KHR.
The balance of the charges on the bill were state and federal taxes, monthly hook up charges and other mandatory charges. Eric obviously knew this this and used the total bill, divided by the kilowatts used and came up with his inflated figures, to his favor. Once I received the true cost /KHR from APS, it was apparent Eric was lying just to make a sale. I also researched his claim that I could get a new roof and Gould he lied on that too. The only possible reimbursement a homeowner would be for the footprint of the solar panels on the roof, not the entire roof the Eric stated.
I’m a retired engineer and my questions would be; 1) If these roof top panels were truly an efficient method to produce electricity, why wouldn’t APS and the hundreds of power generation companies in the world be installing the panels rather than some fly by night company like Sunrun? 2) Why mount the panels on the roof in the first place where their weight will stress the roof and the mounting system will cause leaks? Why not mount them in the back yard on a rack where they would be accessible for maintenance? 3) If the entire solar panel idea actually works, why wouldn’t the power company themselves buy cheap land out in the desert and build huge panel farms to produce cheap electricity? The obvious answer is the panels do not produce electricity at a cheaper rate than other sources such as hydroelectric power. The bottom line is stay away from these liars.

I don’t advise any, I mean anyone to get solar. It’s a racket. The salesman will Lie. I added up 12 months of Edison and then I added up 12 months of Sunrun and I pay $500 more than I did with no solar! That's no savings at all. That’s $500 in the hole. And they won’t take it off my roof. Don’t buy any solar. It’s a 20 year mistake.

I was excited when we put in our system. The Rep came to our home and we reviewed everything. Leasing sounded like a good deal for us. Sunrun was going to maintain the equipment. We have had 1 visit since we put this in a few years ago and that was to replace a meter. Originally we added a couple of extra panels as we were going to get Spa. We haven’t added anything but a few small appliances to our home. It doesn’t produce enough electricity and we are now having to pay almost $500 to Edison because of it. Our savings for adding Solar is in the red. Our bills were less without it. Calling them gets you someone telling you everything is great. It must be you! My advice to you is look at local companies and ask for references before you sign. Very Disappointed!!!!

I heard about Sunrun through a friend and family. Enrollment and the process of putting the solar panels up went very easily and relatively quickly. We feel very positive with my decision to go solar. With it, I have the ability to run more electronics and still have lower electric bills. There had been a few mechanical problems, but they took care of them right away. I’ve been very happy with it, and I would recommend it highly.

I found out about Sunrun because one of my neighbors ended up being one of their customers. It was about the second or third time I considered it, and then my life had changed a little bit and I decided I was going to go ahead and talk to your representative because he was here in the neighborhood. After speaking with him, my wife and I decided to go ahead and go with them rather than another company. I felt he was giving me a good explanation of things.
The installation was good. The only problem that we had was once some things were set up and the first people were supposed to come and take a look at the roof, somehow the scheduling got mixed up between them and the Sunrun representative about the day they were supposed to come. Then, the gentlemen who were supposed to show up didn't show up because of a problem they dealt with getting the permit from the city from Sunrun's part. But once that got straightened out, everything went smoothly. We've been producing solar energy for about a year and a couple of months now, and our electric bill has been slightly lower.

I'm a single father, I'm disabled, I'm collecting off my pension, and my bills were astronomical, especially in the summertime. The installation team was great. They were clean and they had nice personalities. I just had my roof redone, and I asked about where the bolts go, and they answered all my questions about it. I'm happy I went solar. I'm ecstatic.

Sunrun's price was smaller, especially during the summertime. It was a better choice for me 'cause they've been easier to work with. Everything went great with the installation. I just wish they had some more follow-ups from them afterwards. I get a bill from SDG&E every now and then and I was trying to see exactly how much I was putting back to the grid, and I didn't get the right answer. I wanted something more as far as the usage. But overall, everything has been more than fine for me. I can see a big difference.

My experience with Sunrun has been atrocious. They requested payment upfront. Once we paid them it took almost 2 months to install. After the installation there was no follow up. They never requested final inspection from our village and never called the electric company to turn them on. It has been 3 months since we paid them and 2 months since they installed and the panels are still not activated. We are paying our loan but not getting any electricity from the panels. They have made no effort to return numerous calls to everyone that we've called including Costco where we purchased the panels.

I was hopeful that Sunrun would save a few dollars that was why I gave it a shot. Also, it wouldn't hurt to try to do a little bit to help in being environmentally-friendly. It was easy to enroll and they did everything. We had them for three years now, but I honestly haven't necessarily seen a huge difference in the benefit on the cost side of things -- it is probably a few dollars a month overall, like when you span it out over the whole year. It is on the back of the house, so it is not an eyesore. Expedient would have to take the panels off and store them and then come back out and put them back on. Those are things that I have to think about potentially in the next few years. But, as a whole, I don't think about it. I know this comes out of my account every month. It obviously is strong, putting some of the power back onto the grid, so it saves me a little bit of money there. It is not like I'm seeing a huge difference, but I'm not complaining about it either.

We started right after the 1st of the year. And then they called us and said we were only getting half of what we should be getting. Something was wrong. They said, "Go check and see if it's turned on," and it wasn't. There are two boxes and something wasn't turned on in it. And with them on the telephone with me, we figured it out. Since going with Sunrun, our bill is around $4. So, I don't have any problems with it. I called them once to ask some questions about getting a rebate on your taxes. And finally, our accountant told us this year we're gonna get it.

I work with a couple of guys that have Sunrun. I thought they were the better company to go solar with, so we went with them. They said we were supposed to be up and running in three months, and it took over six months. The guys that did the installation were phenomenal. But talking to the people at the company was a waste of time. Nobody was communicating with us in any way, shape or form. We literally had to do 99% of the legwork to get things moving. Otherwise, it would've taken longer than six months. When they got it up and running in November, we fell right into the time period where it was no solar usage and we were still getting our electric bill. And on top of it, we're getting whacked the $173 a month for the bill. We wish we could return the solar panels. They promised us a 99% offset and we're nowhere even close to it. We're supposed to be able to carry at least a decent portion in the winter, but we've already used up all our time.

My solar was moved to Sunrun. The transfer wasn't bad. I pay Sunrun the fixed amount of $29, but I still pay my local electric carrier almost $40-something which is a lot than what my neighbors are paying. The other people that don't have Sunrun is paying $18-$20. One time, I complained that the solar panels they gave me were not intensive. It's not generating more and I have 40 or 42 on top of my roof, and I'm still paying all that. Some of my neighbors have 20, 25, but they don't pay much. And Sunrun isn't doing anything. They just take the money at the end of the month. They said maybe the local electric company's making some mistakes. I tried to correct that with them, but I just left it like that instead of arguing with them because I have committed myself. I'm dissatisfied with the amount I paid. Apart from that, the service is okay.

There was a minor problem with the installation, but the installers were extremely courteous and very helpful in every way explaining a lot of things. The salesperson seemed like he was extremely experienced and knowledgeable and helped me out tremendously. A small glitch that happened was compensated for and they made everything good. The experience having it was wonderful. I had my air conditioning going on last summer and I had lights on the outside all night. I ran a lot of things in the house. So far, everything is working good with Sunrun. We don't have any problem with anything except over the billing department. When we first got it, they promised that I was gonna have a certain amount due of $15 to APS and the rest was due to them. It ended up, they split it but they didn't bother to tell us they split it, so I wasn't paying the APS bill because it was supposed to be $15. I called APS and they said, "No." So, in other words, what we were told that most of it would go to Sunrun wasn't true, but it came out to the same amount once they got it straightened out.
The other thing is they want me to let them automatically deduct it. I don't do business that way. I put it in my computer and it goes out the same day every month. And that wasn't good enough for them. So, they changed my due date and didn't bother to tell me that it was due on the 10th. I have it set up with my bank which pays on the 10th, when it's due. So, they moved it to the 8th. They said, "We don't get it." I said, "That's not my problem. If it says it's due on the 10th and I pay it on the 10th, I've met my obligation. With how your end works, I don't know and I don't care." So they moved it up to the 8th so that it would get to them by the 10th.
They were nasty at the beginning. Now, I don't have anything to do with either one of them. And I would not recommend Sunrun because of the fact that we were told one thing and it was billed another way. As long as I don't pay any more, I don't really care. But at the beginning, it was quite a bit more than I was paying before. So, it didn't really benefit me. Right now in the winter, I haven't gotten a bill yet since the sun isn't really bright. It's been so cold and rainy, I don't know what I'm gonna owe APS this month. But it won't be anywhere near what it was before.
I'm okay with that, but the part I had problems with was that we were told one thing and they said, "No." That part of the obligation went out a month ago. And they were still selling the policy on what they had a month ago. So it really wasn't accurate when we first got it. The guy that sold it to us was very, very nice and very helpful. I don't know if he didn't know that that had gone away, but he should've if he was still selling the policy. Now that we finally got it leveled out, I don't want them changing it again. I want them to leave me alone because I finally got it set up so I can pay who I need to pay when I need to pay them.

I am beyond appalled at how terrible my experience with Sunrun has been, I would never recommend this company to anyone. My bad experience started with the deception from my salesman, Fred **. Fred advised that my electrical panel was old and would possibly need replaced to work with the system. If replacement was needed Fred stated that with a system as large as mine Sunrun would cover the cost of the new panel. Fred also said that because I was an Xfinity customer I would receive $1000 gift card about 3-4 weeks after installation.
The first site surveyor advised my electrical panel would need replaced for "safety reasons" and that Sunrun would cover the cost to replace it. A second site survey had to be completed to address an issue with the first survey. Two surveyors came out this time, both advised that it was very likely Sunrun would replace my electrical panel due to safety concerns.
Final design came through and the electrical panel was not going to be replaced. I contacted Fred ** and Project Coordinator Frederico ** regarding my concerns that I had now been told several times that my electrical panel was a safety issue, and it wasn't being replaced. Fred told me he would look into this and didn't get back to me in a timely manner. Frederico told me that Sunrun could install one and charge me $3000, but they would not cover the costs as Fred told me. Fred spoke to his boss, Eric **, who agreed to provide an additional promotion due to the "incorrect" information that I was given and to avoid losing my sale. In addition to the $1000, Eric and Fred agreed to provide an additional promotion of $250 promotion to keep the sale.
Fred advised that I would receive $1250 of the promotion three weeks after the install. My solar install was November 1st, 5 weeks later I still had yet to receive the promised promotions. I emailed Fred about this with no response, I called him many times without an answer or a call back. Fred finally answered the phone one day, told me he was in the grocery store and that he would have Eric look into why I haven't received the promotions yet and have to call me back. Fred never called back. A week later, still not hearing from Fred I called him many more times without an answer. Finally he answered, he called Eric on a conference call and asked what was going on with the promotions. Eric stated he didn't see any promotions on my account and none had been set up.
Eric sent me an email showing he just added the promised promotions, 5 weeks after install on December 3rd. He advised they could take 4-6 weeks to arrive. I responded with a complaint about my entire experience with Sunrun. I asked Eric to please look into another way to get my promotion to me before Christmas. My response went to Eric, Fred and Frederico and was sent on Wednesday. I never received a response from any of them. I followed up the next Monday asking if any of them planned on responding to my email. Late Monday night Frederico responded that he would look into it but the promotion typically takes 6 weeks to arrive. Fred and Eric never responded to my emails.
I have since emailed who I was told is Eric's boss, Patrick **, who never emailed me back. Fred used lies, deception and lacks integrity, all to make a sale.. Eric and Fred have horrible customer service skills and are extremely hard to get a response from, they don't return emails or calls appropriately. We're now almost 7 weeks after install. I have still not received any of the promised promotions. Today I just learned Sunrun should have reached out to me November 18th to have me sign a meter agreement to get my solar turned on, which they never did, so now we're behind on having the meter installed as well. Fred has called me saying he would see if the promotions could be expedited and never got back to me. This is by far the worst purchase experience I have ever had, and I strongly encourage everyone to PLEASE NEVER consider Sunrun.

A few years ago I became diagnosed with a chronic and incurable illness. I notified Sun run because I was told I could a medical discount. I filled out the paperwork and I was approved for a discount with Sun run. Everything was fine for a few years, and till this year, 2019. In the past, sun run had been very good with their correspondence. But this year, 2019, that was not done. I missed the deadline and when I realized I was being charged the full amount for my lease, I called Sun run to try to get this matter rectified. They never returned my calls my countless calls! Finally after a few months go by I'm told they cannot reconsider my discount until I provide 12 months worth of electric bills. They were very cordial, very professional, very informative and made things seem simple. The installation team did an efficient job. There was no mess afterwards and we’ve never had a problem since.
I only have one complaint. They put a battery in along with the solar. I just made that decision on my own because I thought, "How great. Solar during the day and then the battery at night.” But the battery is only to be used if there’s a power outage. The battery is just a backup. It’s charged by the solar during the day but it only is activated if there’s a power loss in the house. Since we've had the panels installed, it eliminated our electrical bill, except for something that PG&E forces on us.

The salesman named Joseph reassured me multiple times not to worry about going over on solar panels as down the road if these purchases were made I could always have them come out to add more panels to the system. In the process of looking into getting an electric car and called in to get a quote and now the system can not be upgraded without purchasing a full new system to add on. Other than signing a contract with them and knowing what the contract entailed, they did it all. All I did was get notified when it was time for something to occur. So, I was very happy with them.
Sunrun does the managing of the system and deals with it at this point. They're the ones I have an app that I look at to see the wattage I’m producing. Every day, I can see exactly what I’m producing and I wish it didn't rain as much. Every time it rains, you don’t produce as much wattage. You're dependent on what the weather is outside as far as production. Every year, there’s a 2-point-something percent increase in my monthly bill and I just had the first increase. But for the money that I save compared to all the electric bills, it’s well worth it. I’m very satisfied with the decision to go solar. The system is a year old and I haven’t had any issues with it at all. It’s exactly like it’s supposed to be.

There was a function of going online, but I talked to them directly. I filled out my information, and the guys came out and did a check on my house. And then they came over and made two or three different offers -- different versions of what you want to pay and when you want to pay for it.
The local utility here is SDG&E, and what I have done is that I am buying power at a cheaper rate. So, we fenced ourselves against SDG&E rate increases, and we are getting our SDG&E rebates. We have had a full year with Sunrun and I like it. I run the air conditioner when I want and it is inexpensive. We are very happy with going solar.
The year before, Elon Musk's company came in and did a check on my house and roof. A couple of weeks before my installation date, they called and said that I got to re-line my roof. It was a $23,000 bill to redo my roof, after they had already checked it. It has been a sound roof, and so Sunrun did not push me on that. During the installation, the measurements, however, were incorrect. Because we bought a battery with it, the battery would not fit in the place that they wanted to, so they called their engineers up. They claim they offer "proactive monitoring" but I accidentally found out about my 3 to 4 weeks of non production without a word from them. Who knows how when they would have told me I was buying from SDGE at full top tier retail rates, and paying Sunrun for NOTHING, only to be told it would be adjusted ("Trued Up") in TWO YEARS!! I was also told there was no way I could get out of my contract, because they had the obligation to "true up" every two years, regardless of the actual amount of production I received. The salesperson from Sun Run came to my home in July and was terrific. I was promised a quick installation and a few weeks turn around on the incentive rebate that was offered. When the company said I would need a full roof repair in order to get the solar panels, I hesitated, especially since the person who came to my house to measure the roof was extremely aggressive and rude to me.
I should have followed my gut, but the same salesperson had his manager call me and they assured me that the company had better customer service than that and I was offered a rebate on the roof repair. So I moved forward and paid thousands of dollars to repair my roof. I got confirmation that the permits for installation were being requested on 8/31. I had my roof replaced over labor day and then heard NOTHING from Sun Run. Despite reaching out many times, the permits were never pulled and I got an email from the company on 9/24 asking me when my roof would be repaired.
I was shocked as I had clearly communicated that my roof was repaired. I again let them know that day that the roof had been replaced on 9/2, and the company responded that they were waiting for permits and would set a date for installation shortly. On 10/27, I reached out again and found out the permits were never pulled. At that time I requested that my rebates be sent to me as I had followed through with my part and it was the company's mishaps that caused the installation delay. I got the run-around and no one with the authority to send me my rebates ever called me back despite being copied on several emails.
The solar panel installation did not begin until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (11/27) and I needed to make arrangements to be home on four different occasions with very short notice in order to make this happen. It is now December 10th and I still do not have the $3000 in rebates promised me and I still have no idea if the solar panels are even hooked up because there was an issue during the electrical inspection. It took a lot of emailing and calling to get the project to this incomplete point. So, if a quick turn around is what you want, don't go with Sun Run. Despite a significant effort to get my rebates, all I have is lots of finger-pointing within the company and no manager willing to do what it takes to get me the rebates.
I am a single mother on a teacher salary and I was counting on the rebates to replace my savings. It is now 15 days before Christmas and my hard-earned savings that I was promised would be rebated within a few weeks has not been received after months of waiting. No one at Sun Run can confirm when I will receive the money and my solar panels have yet to save me a penny on my electric bill. There are other companies out there, take my advice and go elsewhere!

Setting up my solar took too long. From start to finish, it was about a year. I think getting permits and moving through the government procedure could’ve been a lot faster. But Sunrun was good at keeping me apprised of what was going on. I had nothing but high praise for their follow ups and their commitment to us as consumers. I’m very happy with the solar.

Purchased and installed 40 panel solar 6 years ago. One inverter failed, needs to be replaced. Customer service has been unresponsive. Been waiting for 2 months. This is a very common (SMA) inverter, there is no excuse for this. Meanwhile, our electric bill is escalating. Beware: you will suffer financially because of their bad customer service. Per SUNRUN website https://www.sunrun.com/why-sunrun/lifetime-support: "What if I need help? Don’t worry. We don’t have overseas call centers with prewritten scripts. Instead, we have a world-class Customer Care team based in the US ready to help resolve any issues that may arise." Really, Sunrun? This has NOT been our experience.

I've had Sunrun since February of last year. Everything seemed to go fine with the installation. The solar panels are all on the main roof and I like the layout. I'm satisfied with going solar but I’m still getting an almost $200 electric bill. The billing period from Sunrun doesn’t match up with National Grid, so it’s hard to match everything up. I can see how much I produce with the app. But it would be nice to be able to see on one screen how much I produced for this month and how much I've used. A bank account would also be nice on there if there are kilowatts that I haven't used 'cause in the summer months, the days are longer and I can earn more kilowatts. Sunrun also needs to have my house reevaluated because since then, I have installed a patio with a hot tub. My usage is about 800 kilowatts a month and I’m probably using more than that for the tub. Other than that, I’m happy with Sunrun.

During a sales visit, Sunrun's rep told me about their plan and I was blown away. We had the system installed and it went flawless. And once it was up and running, I was 100% satisfied. It’s everything that I wanted from solar. Not only does it keep my bill steady and reliable, but across the board, I love the fact that I’m able to power my house usually entirely with solar. And I really appreciate that they updated their app. I didn’t use the older app because I didn’t like it as much. But now that’s being updated, I like it much better. They changed its overall look and I’m able to get to my pages really quickly and look at what the output is.

I had expensive electric bills so I got interested in solar energy services. The Sunrun lady that came over explained the service, offered a good package and the enrollment went well. It was opportunity that came up at the time and it worked out good. The team at Sunrun was good. There was an issues with the contractor with the roof part of it, but that got solved real quick. My wife called me at work and said, "They've taken the roof off." I said, "What? Tell them to stop. When I get there, let's discuss it." I didn't think I needed to get the whole thing changed out.
It had bad stuff on it and I agreed to four sheets of stuff being changed out. But they took it upon themselves that it had to be done. They notified me and said, "Okay. The whole roof's gotta be changed." I said, "Stop right there. I'll be there and look." They didn't stop. By the time I got there, the roof was off and I had to get a new roof then. Going solar is good. My electric bill went down, we reduced some energy with it, and it's been working real good. At first, it was a little difficult getting used to the billing part of it and figuring out the electric bill and the Sunrun bill, but it worked out good. I have no problem with it now.

I was looking into options for solar, and Sunrun was one of the ones that came out and gave me a quote. The sales rep was great and enrolling went real easy. Installation went really well as the techs were very professional. The only one thing I was not sure of was that I thought it was resistant. I live on a golf course and I was up on the roof the other day, and I saw a lot them has a big golf ball shatter on it. I thought they wouldn’t have that problem, but now I realize they would and I have no idea who to report that to. Still, I’m very happy. It lowered my electricity bill quite a bit, though it wasn’t quite as much savings as we anticipated.

We got the solar panels from Sunrun, they installed it and we pay for the energy it makes. The cost is okay, it's cheaper than PG&E, but it goes up every year. So far, my decision to go solar has been fine. Any time I had a problem, I’ve called them and they came out and took care of it. We had one problem when they first installed the system. The installers didn't look at the engineer's drawings because they put the panel and everything in the wrong place. When the engineer came out and saw what they've done, he was upset. In the drawing, it was supposed to be set right next to the main electrical panel on the left side of our house, and they put it on the backside of the house. So, they ran electricals through our attic to get over to the PG&E panel. So far, I've recommended Sunrun to a couple of our friends that ask about them.

I was on Facebook and there was a posting about solar, and I started doing a little research and looking around. I found 4 different companies that had ratings, and I contacted all 4 and had them come to the house and do a presentation. One of the 4 never cancelled but never showed, and among the 3, Sunrun was the most impressive. The sales rep that they sent out was very personable and very knowledgeable and I was about 75% sold. Then one little time in about a week, he followed up and I said, “Yeah, let’s do this.” So, we got started and away we went.
The enrollment was a simple process of getting things signed up. They did as much for me and I had to do very little. I’m sort of retarded when it comes to that kind of stuff if it gets technical, but they took me through it pretty much. The gentleman that was coordinating always sent me an email or phone call saying, “We’ll do this,” and then, “Here’s what's next. Here’s what they're gonna do.” And even down to the city inspection, even back to the guys who’ll be there in such and such a date that worked on the roof, they always knew where I was. So, I was truly impressed with the communication. I’ve been a customer service rep or salesperson my whole life, and I know what it’s like to have a good PR with the public, and they had it. They're just good and I made a good choice.
The first bill I got sorta surprised me. It was higher than I thought it would be. It was like $100 and I wasn’t sure why. 125 to 150 was my normal bill. But even if I had the rental of like 79 bucks and then I got a $100 bill, the next month was 50, and then the next five was free. It apparently caught up and I was getting ahead on the energy. And the first bill I got was 17 cents. So, you pretty much had to get it too before and beat the smile off my face. We’re in a season now to where I’m starting to see some bills, even with the contract with Sunrun, but 30, 40, 50 bucks is still below what I was paying so I’m really happy. And anyone I can talk into it, I’ll do. And the nice thing about going solar was getting a credit card with a $350 bonus on it for referring. They haven't turned it on as they haven't got the final inspection, but it’s all done and the lady is quite thrilled. I recommended them to about 20 people and even posted it on Facebook.

I wasn’t too pleased with my service from Sunrun. I’m a first time home buyer and I just purchased a house. A little after I purchased the house, I got the panels. I still receive an electrical bill so I’m making two payments - the payments for the solar panels and the bill for the electric company. On top of that, my agreement was that I would have a certain amount of panels and I have a little less than that because the electric company shut them down. They assumed what my bill would be because I wasn’t in there for a year and I’m paying more.
I complained and I kept calling customer service at Sunrun. I asked why I am still paying a bill and why I am paying the electric company. Why am I paying for the panels? It defeats the purpose that I have panels because I’m still paying over a $100 in bills sometimes with the electric company. They told me that because of the square footage of my house, they assumed what the current would be. Meanwhile, when I moved in here, I showed them my bills. They gave me a detailed list of all the electrical devices and how many people live in the house.
With my whole experience with Sunrun, it was only the installation team that was actually helpful, honest, and professional. Other than that, I got lied to by the sales rep. The sales rep told me that the bill will be a fixed amount for a number of years but it wasn’t. When I got my bill from the credit card company, the person I financed the panels through, they said that at first, I was paying a certain amount then after that, it goes up for the payment because I purchased my panel. I didn’t like that. Right now, they’re not charging me interest but the amount that he had told me I was gonna pay, I’m actually paying that now. But my bill will go up for the finance of the panels. I wouldn’t recommend Sunsun and would tell people to definitely shop around. I jumped into it and I’m not saving any money. I wasn’t happy with the service.

I've got 12 panels from SunPower over on the east side of the roof when the house was built. Then a representative from Sunrun came over to the house and gave us the pitch on it. I didn’t wanna buy any more of them, but I decided that we would lease the 10 that he proposed to install so we got 22 panels. We had problems initially with the installation. The Sunrun people disconnected the wrong line for SunPower ‘cause there were two different systems hanging side-by-side.
Then the production is not what we thought what it would be. I tried just for giggles and kicks at 3 o’clock in the morning. I opened up the computer and looked at what generated the day before and I had 3 kilowatts. Now, we’re just starting into the winter and I’m very disappointed at the production level. So, we pay $33 a month and we’re getting 100 kilowatts. We have 10 panels and we’re getting up around 12. From SolarEdge Documentation: “Low Bandwidth (BW)- This mode utilizes a data plan for low-cost monitoring. We’ve been wanting to be greener and went solar. I liked that with Sunrun, there was no upfront cost. Moreover, the bill is about 40 bucks a month less than our average electric bill was. The enrollment process was easy. It took about a week to get a survey scheduled, then it took a couple of months to finally get permits in place and engineer a solution. By the time the whole thing was done, it had been about three months.
Recently, I had an incident that made me very unhappy. The system failed. Apparently, one of the system boards got fried and they had to replace it. Sunrun was pretty efficient. I worked with a gentleman named Scott, who was the coordinator. From the get-go, he laid everything out and everything happened the way it was supposed to be laid out. All the prep work and planning was done, and when they came in, they finished in a few hours. So, I was pretty impressed. I waited for the final okay to go and switch over from PG&E, and it was seamless. I pay a monthly fee to Sunrun and PG&E, and it’s pretty minimal. I get a bill for whatever the service contract fee of $10 or so is, plus my gas, then I pay Sunrun monthly. So, it has worked out nice.
I’d looked at doing this 15 years ago, and that was a little bit early and it didn’t make much sense at the time. The solar panels made sense, so it worked out fine. The only thing I was debating was whether to have battery backup. The question is to buy it out and be completely off the grid, but I live in California and we have some power outages from PG&E to control wildfires. Fortunately, we skimmed-through without getting power outages, but if that were to happen, the batter backup would’ve come in handy or to be completely off the grid. Other than that, it’s seamless. I designed and made sure that the capacity was not 100% but 80%. I intentionally did that to force ourselves to be a little more conservative in the amount of energy that we use. We’re not going over too much, and it is generating enough power especially on sunny days. Overall, I’m pretty happy with it.

There were a few hiccups though. Being a first-time solar owner, I had no idea about the birds which was never brought up. When I tried talking about it, they said that they don't deal with pest problems.
Sunrun does not install any bird screens like a lot of the other solar companies do. We ended up with huge pigeon and pigeon poop problems all over our backyard, not to mention what's underneath the panels that they supposedly warranty. While they were installing it, I would have paid a bit extra for bird screens to be an option. Pigeon poop is very caustic and Sunrun is warrantying a roof that is now being littered with caustic material, which is gonna degrade. In the long run, it would be in Sunrun's best interest to provide that to help better their warranty. Sunrun also does a referral program, but they didn't honor my referral. We’re new homeowners and we’ve always wanted solar. So, the moment we were getting ready to move in, we got the solar in. We wanted to do it on principle, like it’s good for the environment. And from what we hear from others, it looks like the bills are better. We also have an electric HVAC system, where the heating and AC is all-electric, so we installed a very efficient HVAC system and even so, the electric bill seems to be quite affordable. But there has been some issues with Sunrun. The inverter was emitting a noise and we had it replaced. The noise hasn’t quite gone away and we have gotten used to it but it is a bit of a problem. Also, the battery only works as a back-up and my understanding from other friends who had different installations is that the battery gets charged while it’s sunny outside and then, at night, it starts kicking up back into the house.
I asked about it from a rep from Sunrun and they blamed PG&E but then, I talked to other friends who also had solar installations, not from Sunrun, and they said that they could do it, even with PG&E. So, the next step I was going to take when I have a little bit of time was to call PG&E and try to figure it out. Also, granted I haven’t looked at it in the last few weeks, I can’t always tell what’s happening in real time such as how much energy is coming in now that the battery is charging. So, the reporting is a little sparse on the website in terms of system status.
Since we have solar wheels, I have electric cars that run on batteries. I know batteries can charge and discharge on a daily basis and they’re just fine. I even had the Prius and the battery has been charged and discharged literally thousands of times, and it’s still running strong. Relative to that LG Chem that Sunrun is using, that Prius technology is old. It’s almost 10 years old, which is older than Sunrun technology.
Sunrun has good marketing at Costco but it took awhile to have it installed and it took a lot of project management on my part. Also, I heard from other friends that the price is okay but it’s not the lowest. So, if I did this today, I would probably shop around a little bit more. I’m presently happy with having installed solar and I still think it was the right thing to do but the customer relationships management of Sunrun left a bit to be desired such as follow-ups on time, everything being scheduled within a reasonable time from the first call and having to deal with five people before anything got done.

After two weeks the tech came out to our home and told me the inverter was fried and he would have order the part and to speed up the process he would have sent to my home that 3 week and the following week he was back to install the box 4 weeks (we were without the system for 80 days). Myself as a customer telling what I saw when the email from the contractor was first sent, I expected that the tech would have the parts on the truck, and being the second time I had problem with the follow through of the sub-contractor in ten months of have the system. The new inverter box does not have a display window so that you could that system is working properly, when asked I was told the box was new version. Just give me another reason not to trust them.

When I first signed up for SunRun, my goal was to have a little more power than what I needed 'cause I'm by myself now and planning for the future. Instead, I ended up getting just what they recommended was right. I had a question for them in that if I wanted to add more panels later on in life, would it be possible. But then, I never got like an actual reply from them. Still, their system met all my criteria and any other questions I had at the time, the rep answered pretty well. Since then, I've been able to use more energy than what I normally use and I don't have to worry about high bills.

We had been looking into solar energy services before and electricity is expensive, so it seemed like a good idea. Somebody from Sunrun came to my door and he was a nice, friendly guy. It has been over a year since we’ve had it installed and I’m happy with what we’re paying.

When I originally talked to the people at Sunrun I was told the panel was supposed to be producing the same amount that I was using in the house. So I'm a little bit disappointed that the roof isn’t making as much as my house is using. I'm paying about 120 per month, more than what they're making, and I was supposed be breaking even, if not, salting some away as it were. If I had known how to shop more, I might have gotten a better deal.
Looking at what I could look up online, it doesn’t tell me anything, as far as were they making what they're supposed to be producing or not. But there's not been anything wrong with it that I know of other than the fact that I feel like I'm not getting as much electricity as I was supposed to get, and having to pay for electricity from Edison, which I wasn’t supposed to.

I got referred to Sunrun by a co-worker. I had no difficulties signing up with the service. It was very easy. Everybody I spoke to was super nice. I had a problem during the installation, and it was just human error. We all make mistakes. Somebody made a change to the order. So when the first group came to do installation, they said, “Okay, we see you don’t have a battery.” And I told them I did want a battery and I was not having any installation done until I make sure everything is correct. So we had to reschedule. But everybody was very understanding, very apologetic, and it was fine. And when the installers came over, they did everything quickly. All of the workers were very nice.
I’m so happy we went solar. I work at home. I have a home-office, and that’s why it was so important for me to get a battery. I have a lot of co-workers who were worried. Some of them had to turn around and drive for two hours to get into the office. And I didn’t have any stress or worry at all because I knew I was still gonna have power with my battery. It gave me a feeling of comfort. The feeling of not having to worry and not having stress was really nice.
Everything that Sunrun has done was really great. They explained everything to me. And I asked a million and one question, and they didn’t make me feel like I was dumb. They answered everything. And any time I send an email, I got a really quick response back. I would highly recommend them to anybody. It was a great experience, and I’m glad we went with Sunrun.

And so, when solar got to a point where it was relatively affordable and relatively efficient I decided to check into it. The crew was great and everything happened as planned. The only thing that's disappointing is the production is not what it's supposed to be but at the same time, you guys are sending me a check every year for the difference. But other than that everything's fine. I was really happy with the service for the most part.

The roof was about 20 years old at the time so they should have inspected it, but that was not the case. I trusted the person, but got bit for it. We are currently having a new roof installed and Sunrun wants $1850 for R&Ring it. We are currently VERY unhappy with this situation and don't understand why we are being charged for this at all. Had they mentioned the possibility of replacing the roof we would have had it done if the salesperson not poo-pooed the idea.

Everything went as scheduled until it was time to start producing energy. I received my PTO (Permission to Operate) from Centerpoint on October 7, 2019. The system has not worked since inception. It has been in constant stand-by mode (blinking green light) since day one. I was told from the beginning that Sunrun has constant monitoring of the system and representatives from the company would be there to repair or replace any system issues free of charge before I even knew there was an issue. Day one I explained to Kyle that the system is not producing energy and I want someone out to inspect the system and get it online and working. I was told that they probably have not received the PTO and as soon as the office has it they could bring the system up online. Total crap. November 1, 2019 is the earliest someone can come out and fix the issue if there is one.
November 1, 2019, yesterday, received a call from a non call back number telling me they were in route to my residence to take care of the issue. My wife and son were at home and all day and told me they did not see anyone come to the house. It's November 2, 2019 and my system still does not work. Oh, the best part is that you are made to do business with MP2 Energy as an energy provider, who is owned by Shell Oil. My electricity bill for the month of October 2019, was almost twice the amount as I was paying with Reliant Energy. Reconsider Sunrun!!!! I would not have given any stars as a rating for this company but you have to give it something or your voice won't be heard.

He didn’t always tell me the truth. But as far as the company and the solar system, I’m happy with those. I went to a trade show here in Denver, and there was a representative there. When I talked to him, he was the only one that gave me a choice of different solar panels. Sunrun sent a representative over and I like what the rep offered me. I had the system installed and I’ve been happy ever since. I got one of the better installers, electrically-wise. I’ve got two. They were Sunny Boys converters, and my original thought was to get completely off the grid. But at the time, Xcel would not allow that. In fact, they still don’t. I was thinking about just getting that Tesla in-home battery so I could get completely off the grid. But I had no problems. I’ve got 48 panels. I’ve got a 9.5 kilowatt system. And everything works great, and it has ever since I had it installed. Two other people in the neighborhood also have used Sunrun because of the effects that I had from them.
I've been producing solar energy for about 11 years. The system provides me with enough electricity. I got a pool in my backyard and a big air conditioner. So during the summertime, May through September, my electric bill would run anywhere from $300 to $400 a month. Now, it’s down to $40 a month. I’m paying actually even less in the winter, ‘cause I use less electricity. I know that you have to buy electricity from some of the other solar companies, which really doesn’t pay off.
The cost of the system was $100 a month for the first year, and then it went up to 103, and now it’s only up to 133. Plus in the next 10 years, I will own my solar system and I like that. It will help me sell my house, if I ever want to. Furthermore, there was not just one plan. They had four different plans that you could work with. We’ve had several hail storms and I chose the Kyocera panels because of the thickness, and the coatings that they have as versus to the Sanyos and to another one. I did a little research and the Kyocera panels came out about three to five points over the Sanyos. The Sanyos would have been cheaper. But mine did not cost me one red cent. The only thing was the 6% per year that your bill could go up with Sunrun to pay for the unit. With all the rebates and stuff that we had back then, I think that was a little high. But it was a non-negotiable back then. I don’t know about now.

My wife and I did a fair amount of research on solar arrays and liked what we were reading. The salesman came out and made his pitch. He said that based on the size of our house and our appliances we would need ?? kWh size array. He assured us that the array he was recommending would cover 90+% of our electricity needs. The array was split between the East and South facing roofs, I deferred to his "expertise" in the placement of the array. The system was up and running mid June this year. Around the end of July we called him out because we felt the system wasn't performing as advertised, he said we should give it more time to even out. Then in September I called Sunrun told the rep what our concerns were, that the system wasn't producing as advertised and we felt that the east facing part of the array should be facing west, based on the opinion of a solar installer we spoke with. She to said give it more time.
It is now the end of October the system is not even close to producing what he claimed it would produce. In our area the most expensive part of the day for power is between 3PM and 8PM, why during that part of the day would you place a third of the array on the opposite side of the house from the most intense sun? Not satisfied at all, feels like I was sold a bill of goods.

My wife had had a lot of interaction with one Sunrun salesperson, and we went with them. However, they lacked a single contact person when we enrolled. We were told that our project manager was somebody and that somebody then wasn't reachable. He was ill or out of the country, and different people were standing in to fill that role. It was very elusive. In a period where nothing happened for a couple of months, we were trying to figure out what was going on. It was really hard to find somebody who knew what our situation was and reassure us where we stood.
Then, installation took several months and the process was shoddy. There were a lot of different parties involved within Sunrun and their subcontractor, Premier Solar. They all did not always seem to communicate very well with each other as well. Premier Solar also had a lot of people coming and going, and a good number of them had less electrical knowledge than I have. I even wound up challenging them on certain things to make sure it got done right. They are only marginally trained and they did something to our panels and the connection of the panels to our electrical system that caused us to lose a lot of appliances in the house. So, there were some problems, but they eventually got the thing constructed correctly.
Once the system was finally constructed, there haven't been too many glitches. We've been up and running and we've been able to produce power from the panels. It was great in the summer and so I'm waiting how well we would do in winter. It will be our first going through complete winter so it would be interesting to see how the kilowatt and dollar balance make the outgoing through the winter.

For the most part, Sunrun's customer service was great and everything was very easy with enrolling. Our house has two electric panels and we get two electric bills. One panel has just the house on it and the other one has the air conditioner on it. When we first met with Sunrun, they told us they could do both, but after revisiting and looking at the consumption on one panel after a month, it turned out they weren't able to do the second one, which was very frustrating. Part of it was on them for not realizing that our consumption wasn't enough. You have to have a certain amount of consumption in order to get solar panels. But part if it was the rules and Atlantic City Electric saying no. Sunrun was able to do the other panel though and that process was very easy.
You can see that there are solar panels on the house and people think it's gonna make their house ugly, but it doesn't. Also, going solar makes me feel less guilty when I run the air conditioner in the summertime. We got it in July last year and at that point, because of the up-ramp and the air conditioning we used right away, we didn't really see a drop in the electric bills. But this summer, the bill from Atlantic City Electric, although still a bit of a bill, was significantly lower than it ever was. Even when you add in what we're paying for the solar panel, it's less than what we were previously paying for electricity.

The enrollment process with Sunrun was pretty easy, and their customer service representatives were very good. But when the guys came out to install the panels, the experience was not perfect. It was a residential neighborhood, and they got there at 6 o’clock in the morning and started making a ton of noise backing up. They had those back-up beepers, and the neighbors all came out, and everybody was really upset. They were very unprofessional. There’s kind of an unwritten rule everywhere that you’re not allowed to make noise out of respect for neighbors until 8 o’clock. Before 8 o’clock, there should be no motorized noise coming off of your property. So, that was not good.
Also, we’ve had solar at our other place and they really facilitated getting the rebates from the government. With Sunrun, we got some but a lot of our kickback was because we bought our panels through Costco. I ended up just getting a Costco credit, so I had to spend the money at Costco. It wasn’t a cashback thing. And so, that wasn’t attractive. You get a gift card for Costco rather than a bunch of cash rebate from the government.
Since having the panels installed, we get a bill every month for the use of the grid, and we don’t see a monthly bill. So, it’s hard to really monitor what the benefit is. To me, the benefit is that we don’t have to use coal or nuclear. We don’t have to be responsible for fracking and all the other forms of energy that are not good for the environment. So, in that respect, every day is wonderful.
I'd tell others to check Sunrun out. It might work better for some people. The representative from Sunrun whose brother got married at our place was such a nice guy that when I found out he worked for a solar company, and we just gotten a house off of the farm that we were living on, I went with him. It was fun working with him. He was a very good representative. So, that was a pleasant experience. But had it not been that situation, I would’ve gone with the same company that I had been going with before.

I was talking with the salesperson from Momentum and he was the person who brought in Sunrun. The enrollment process was done through Momentum. The few times I’ve spoken with their customer service team, they’ve been very nice and pleasant. It’s the letters that kept saying things that are not as nice. I’ve been so angry with these people now because Sunrun turned out to be the financial end of it. I kept telling the salesperson that I do not want to lease my roof and he kept assuring me that it’s not gonna happen. And that was a big lie.
First of all, Sunrun has no office here. Going solar is a state program and the Momentum salesperson brought them in. He went into my credit report four times. By the fourth time, he brought down my credit rating, that makes it better for Sunrun to say, “Yes, we’ll come in with you guys.” And Sunrun is charging double for the lease as opposed to any New Jersey State company. The basic point was for New Jersey State companies to be able to get the advantage of their own state people. And companies like Momentum were bringing in Sunrun because they were making money, and they've become the financer, because that’s what they did. All I know is that things just weren’t right and I’m trying to see how I could get out of this horrible lease because it should not have gone through if it was not a company that was in the State of New Jersey.
I’m still trying to get help from the state on this matter because I have spoken to other companies and they’re only charging their customers anywhere between $30 to $40 a month, if it’s the lease on the roof, while I’m being charged 95 or 97 and the increase of 2.8 is there. That’s the first year. But then it goes up even more. I did not get the breakdown of what it would be if I wanted to try and finance it to buy it outright because the way they made it sound, you would have to pay $40,000. Where are we gonna get $40,000? I’m a senior citizen and we’re primed because they get you all the good talk and then the next thing you know, you’re behind the eighth ball, and that’s where I am. I now owe them $1,000 because when I found out that it wasn’t being paid through my utility company Momentum, which is what I thought and I was incorrect, once they put the panels up on my roof, they were nowhere to be seen.

In 2016, I was looking on how to go solar. I went through BG&E’s website and there was some sort of relationship between Sunrun and BG&E Home. I just went with Sunrun at that point and did everything over the phone, and the process was really easy. They sent somebody out to take measurements and check on the age of the roof, etc. It’s a 20-year lease and we have a pre-determined guaranteed rate that we pay. We have a monthly or an annual guaranteed rate of energy production. Our monthly price is based on that amount of energy divided by the 12 months. And they don’t charge us extra for more power that we produce. But if we don’t get the guaranteed minimum, they give us credit for that amount. So, there’s really no risk.
Starting out, our monthly amount is less than what we would pay the utility company for energy. So, it remains to be seen over time. If utility rates stay low like they are right now, eventually we’ll end up paying more for the solar power that we’re getting through the system. But I can’t see that happening. At some point, everything is gonna go up in price. At least we know what our rates are gonna be for the next 20 years.
We have two separate solar systems on our property. We started our Sunrun process in 2016 and it got installed in 2017 because we started late in the year and it overlapped. But I was real happy with the way that turned out. I have 32 panels on the roof of our garage. And after having that for two years, I thought we could double our capacity and save more money. So, we had 35 panels installed on our house last Christmas and they showed up the day after Christmas.
We did all the preliminary stuff and they came out and did the inspection. They happened to be the same people. When they came out, they did the inspection and all the measurements. They sent the into the head office and they made a determination that the roof on the house wasn’t good enough for them to put the solar system on it. They said, “The bad news is your roof needs to be replaced. The good news is we’re gonna replace it for you.” So, we got a free roof with our solar system that we’re basically paying for that’s less than our utility bills. So, it’s amazing.
So far, we’ve not had any leaks although we had a shingle blow off in the wind last winter. I had to try and figure out how to get back to the roofing company since it was a subcontractor. But once I did get a hold of them, they came right out, literally got up on the roof in the snow, blew it off with a leaf blower, and fixed the shingles that had blown off. They made a determination that since it was on the ridge vent, they said that probably what happened was when they were installing the solar system, somebody stepped there. Because it was in a tight area, they probably had to sit there and it tore the shingle off the nail, which I can understand that by looking at it. Other than that, everything has been great.

Sunrun's customer service was accurate, great, and good with scheduling. The whole process took 3-4 weeks and they followed up numerous times afterward and made sure there were no problems. Our decision of getting a solar energy system was to have a lower bill. It was also the fact that the provider manages to take care of everything if it breaks, which was important. After installation, we later found that where they put our box shouldn't have been because the first thing it said was, "Don't have it in the direct sun." So, in the design, instead of putting it on the opposite end of the house, where it would be shaded, they actually put it on a full sun area. It was after researching and finding out about the design that they should've never put the box where they did.
Our neighbors have Sunrun too and how they designed theirs is they have it on the other side of the house in a shaded area. Because Sunrun was contracting all of this out to different companies, and I don't know if they still do that but that's the way it was, I feel like we were the guinea pig of this in our neighborhood that's why it was a poor layout design of where they put the box. Also, our neighbors' company actually came out and put wire or mesh around their panels because the birds are going under there. We're also getting a lot of birds going under ours and we get all kinds of birds making their nests under them and going to the bathroom on top of them.
Another thing more was that in our first year or two, we were really worried that the system's box would catch our house on fire to the point my husband even called the manufacturer to really try to talk to them and understand. I had also made several calls to them and it felt like I got the runaround. Nobody ever really resolved anything because what we wanted was for them to put some kind of a little awning just over the box to keep the sun from pounding on it. So, we had to take a table with a big umbrella and put it in front of our gate to try to cover it 'cause it was so hot that if one touches it lightly, they would burnt their finger.
Still, there's nothing more that can be done at this point. So far, everything is working out. Every once in a while, periodically, we would get on our little meter that one of the 35 panels does not seem to be registering. We don't know what that is, but we find that that happens when they get dusty. So, my husband climbs up there and take the hose to them and clean. Other than that, they seem to be doing fine. All in all, we're satisfied with Sunrun.

I was looking into solar energy and Sunrun popped up on most of the ads I saw. Everywhere I look, I was directed to Sunrun again. Going solar seemed like the way of the future and it can reduce our energy bills, I was looking to save some money. Enrolling with Sunrun was all positive. They did exactly what they said they were gonna do, and I kept looking for the hook in the deal and didn't find it. So, they were very professional. They were very straightforward in what they provided and what it cost you. I was very comfortable with that.
The team at Sunrun came out to fix things and didn't have a problem at all. They're very courteous and very good to deal with. Going solar is pretty seamless. Once they installed the equipment, I didn't notice a thing except I just didn't get the bills anymore from SMUD. I've got a fixed bill now instead of a varying bill, and it's been exactly what they said it was gonna be. Sunrun seems to have a real upfront deal and I would promote it to anybody and I've been recommending it to a lot of my friends. I'm happy with them.

Sunrun was the only one doing leasing. We weren’t looking to purchase the system outright, so we did the lease with them. For the most part, they’ve been pretty good. They dropped the ball on the second system we have installed. It was down for like four months before they got it up and running, but now it seems to be doing everything right.
The customer service at Sunrun is okay. They came out and they said there was a problem with the system and they weren’t able to get to to it because I have dogs, and the system’s behind the fence. And then, I didn't hear anything for a couple months until I’d seen it go one day and realized we’re not producing what we’re supposed to. That’s when I started making phone calls and rattling cages. And then they got somebody out here to fix it. Overall, it’s a good decision to go solar. I just wish Sunrun would stay on top of their equipment more.

Another company installed my solar system and then they transferred everything over to Sunrun. I get emails from them all the time and they offered like $5 off if I did the auto-pay. I’m satisfied with going solar. It’s still cheaper, even with the lease, than if I had to pay out-of-pocket. And my electric bill runs like $1 a month.
Thank you for your review, Mark! Even though Sunrun may not have been your original installer we are so pleased to hear that you're enjoying your service and saving with the sun! Congrats on going green, thanks for being apart of the Sunrun family!

I wasted 30 minutes setting up a consultation at Costco (Sugarland, TX). I got e-mails and texts confirming my appointment. I got a text to remind me. I rushed home to make it on time for my appointment. NOTHING. "Ryan" who had contacted me to "congratulate" me for making the decision and to introduce himself, did not show up. I waited for an hour. NOTHING. No one called to try to reschedule, to apologize, to laugh at me...NOTHING! I tried to go with them because of Costco, but after reading so many negative reviews...I dodged a bullet!
Thank you for your communication, Alex. We are disappointed to hear that your appointment did not take place. We'd love the chance to look into what happened! A specialist will be reaching out to you shortly.

Our inverter is down, again. 3rd time, lost over a year of production. The sales pitch to lease with Sunrun's #1 benefit was supposedly 24/7 monitoring. I have found the inverter down every time, SunRun does not monitor. Nor will they provide credit for the year plus the sys was down. Bottomline, do not deal with SunRun, not worth the $$$.
Thank you for your feedback. James. We are disappointed to hear that you're experiencing issues with your system. We'd be more than happy to look into your account and ensure that everything is done to get you back up and running and we can discuss any compensation that may be warranted. The installation team from Sunrun was awesome and the service technicians that have come out have been great. I wish I had looked into other solar energy services though. My battery that cost me five to $7,000 went out. I got the battery backup for my system through them, and then I had a battery that went out in June. They knew about it since then, and I finally noticed that something was wrong with it and called them at the end of September. They finally came out to replace it after giving me the runaround of, “Our guy is no longer with us. We don’t have anyone to come out there. I’m sorry you’ve already taken time off work, but we can’t do it."
Their service techs came out, hooked everything up, and got everything in. They came out a week after I called them about the issue. Sunrun knew about it for three months. And then it took a week for them to come out and look at it, and to say, “Yes, the battery is faulty. It needs to be replaced under warranty, blah, blah, blah.” I had to wait for them to order one, which was two weeks. Then their service tech quit and couldn’t come out, so they can’t reschedule another one. I had to wait another week after that. We had three power outages, and my kids were terrified in the dark. I have a two-year old and a 10-year old. So, there are no light for baths, and candles just weren’t cutting it for the kids. We had loss of food because all my stuff runs off the battery backup. Also, they haven’t setup on the Wi-Fi to where they know when something goes wrong.

Jeff, Sunrun's regional sales rep out of Sacramento came to my residence, did a site review and everything just took off from there. Our decision of going with Sunrun was predicated upon the referral of friends who were very, very happy with the process and with the productivity. My wife and I purchased the system outright. The day it went online, it was paid for in full. Almost since date of activation, I've had problem with panels, the inverter, the ZigBee, the optimizers, and I’m still having problems with it. The gateway was replaced and I’m still having problems with it. And I can’t get a straight answer from anybody. And now, SolarEdge wants me to fill out a “SolarEdge Site Monitoring Administration Rights Transfer Form.”
The form basically asks for information pertaining to my system, name of previous administrator or owner, name of new owner, name of the new owner address, the system ID number. In essence, it wants a paper trail for who the owner is. When the problems began, I had absolutely no problem contacting anybody in the Sacramento office. But now, when you call any of their numbers, you get nothing. Nobody answers the phone. Sometimes, you get a, “The number you have dialed is no longer in service.” Every time I call Sunrun, I get shipped off to Colorado. And each and every god forsaken time I call somebody in Sunrun, I gotta reinvent the wheel by telling them everything all over again, and I am fed up.
It seems as if from the moment Sunrun accepted the check for payment in full, we became a plague. I do not have any good things to say about Sunrun. Neither do the friends of ours who recommended them, or other friends who have Sunrun. I cannot, in all good conscience, recommend Sunrun to anybody. My system was installed July of 2015. When we experienced the first rain, it took an act of congress to get Sunrun out here to fix it and said, “We’re awfully sorry.” Well, sorry doesn't cut it when the primary location of leaking was directly above my whole house fan in the hallway. And now, the grate for the whole house fan is beginning to rust. I ran an activity report today. I have a 21-panel system. Guess how many panels are operating, pursuant to the SolarEdge monitoring program.
It’s been that way since September 24. And they said, “It sounds like an optimizer issue.” Each panel has an optimizer and the system was designed such that the domino theory would not kick in. If there was a problem with an optimizer on panel 1, then panel 1 may be low productivity or no productivity. But that would not affect the productivity of panels 2 through 21. It would hopscotch. It wouldn’t knock down that first domino and the whole system goes out. My activity report shows the optimizers are not working, the panels are not producing, the inverter is not producing, there’s not ZigBee, etc. And then, when you try to call SolarEdge, you're gonna be on the phone on hold for the rest of the day. And you better pray that you don’t have to go to the bathroom because if you do, you may miss the call when somebody picks up.
I’ve been dealing with this since the day the system went online. And the other things is, I was sitting around twiddling my thumbs for a month, waiting for it to activate. I never got a notice or phone call from PG&E. So, I called them and said, “What the hell’s going on here? We haven’t received anything from Sunrun indicating that your system installation is complete, and that the city inspectors have signed off on your system installation.” Sunrun is responsible for notifying PG&E, but they did not. And PG&E said, “We’re sorry, but it seems as though your system is producing now.” And then, you compare the production programs, Sunrun has a program where you can monitor your system productivity, and SolarEdge.
When I purchased the system, it was a system. At no time did Jeff or anybody else representing Sunrun say, “Here are the panels that we offer. You choose what type of panel you want. Here are all the optimizers. You choose to manufacture what type of optimizer you want. Here are all the inverters that you have available. You choose what type of manufacture inverter that you want.” Nothing of that nature. It was sold as a package to us, my wife and I, by Sunrun. Now, Sunrun wants to tell me, “We’re awfully sorry, but the warranty is expired on that. You’ll have to deal with SolarEdge.” The only positive thing about this experience is, with my career, I’m retired, so I got all day and night to deal with this. But what I learned in my career as a criminal investigator for the Department Of Justice for the dysfunctional country of California, it has served me well.
The other problem is that every time I call Sunrun, I get somebody else. And then, they respond on behalf of themselves when they tell me, “I’m gonna have to process this up to my supervisor, or my manager, or a senior tech, and they’ll get in touch with you within two to three business days. And then, I get an email from the person that I spoke with, who is a customer service rep. And they say, “We’re sorry, but there’s nothing we can do. I suggest you contact SolarEdge as your system is out of warranty.” I contacted SolarEdge, and SolarEdge told me I’m warrantied until 2040. So, what am I supposed to believe?
This whole experience has been like I bought a brand-new car from, let’s say a Ford dealership, drove it off the lot, and didn't even get all the way home when the car broke down. And I call them and tell them, “Hey, you need to send a tow out here to take your car back.” And they'd say, “Sorry, but you signed a paperwork. It’s your problem now.” And the fight is on. That’s the way it’s been with Sunrun.

I’ve been with Sunrun for about five years, but in the last two years, I’ve had some equipment problems and it takes them over a month to fix it. Sometimes, my system would be down for about two months at a time and not generating power. I need to generate power because I’m only there for six months a year and the power I’ve generated pays for my electricity bill when I’m there. To save money, I put solar on the place and as soon as I did, I eliminated my electricity bill. My net bill, when it’s running properly, should be just the tax, which is $14 a month. I bought the lease upfront though, which was $13000.
In the last two years, I’ve been short-changed for two months of each year and it’s costing me money. They say they have a guarantee, but it's a joke because my system would have to be down for four months straight before it would kick in. The guarantee is so low that my system produces enough when it is running for 10 months a year and the guarantee doesn't kick in.
They use contractors, like Harmon Electric, to come out and fix the system, but they never have the parts in stock. I can’t imagine that there’d be that many parts that they wouldn’t have it in stock somewhere. It always seems to take them a month to get the part and then another month to come out and fix the system. If it doesn't work, then they gotta start the whole process over again. The maintenance part of it hasn’t been that great, but overall, I’m still about 90% happy with the system.
I haven’t had that big of a problem with talking to the customer service or getting them to respond back to me. However, A lot of times, I already know that my system is down and that Harmon is going out there. Then a month later, Sunrun would let me know that my system was down. And I'd go, "Is this a new problem or is this the old problem?" They're the ones that are supposed to be monitoring the system because it’s leased, but they are a bit slow in identifying the problem. Overall, Sunrun has saved me money. I’ve still got 25 years left on my lease and I’m concerned about what’s gonna happen in the future.

We bought a house about a year ago with solar panels already installed, so the lease just transferred over. For almost a year, I have been paying a ACH non-compliance fee (an extra $15/month). The only reason I found out was because I created an account online, and paid through the website one time. I had no idea what an ACH fee was, so I called the company. They said it was because I did not sign up for automatic payments. The representative who transferred the account never told us about this ACH during the process, so we had no clue we were literally paying for not being convenient to Sunrun.
On top of paying Sunrun about $60/month, our electricity bill is always more than $100. What is the point of Solar Panels? I called the company when we first got the house because I noticed that there wasn't a big difference from our electricity bills in our last home, and they said they don't know why our electricity bill is so high and to call the electricity company. I called the electricity company, and they said that the solar panels should be taking a large chunk out of our electricity bill. I'm just tired of paying so much money for something that should be saving us money. We are seriously considering getting rid of the solar panels.
Thank you for your communication, Laura. We certainly are disappointed to hear that proper expectations regarding billing and savings were not set at the time the agreement was transferred into your name. Higher than expected utility bills can definitely make for a poor experience for anyone! We'd like the chance to look into your situation and see if we are able to provide some clarity on why your bills might be the price that they are currently. I asked at Costco about solar energy systems and then I called Sunrun. Their rep was very articulate, conscientious, polite, and compassionate. He's so good that I would trust him with just about any decision. I was a purchasing agent, so I'm used to people trying to sell me something. He was so thorough and he made it sound easy, which did turn out to be easy. He first came out in April then we went online in August so the first month of usage was August 'til September. It was an excellent installation experience. Going solar was seamless and so I'm quite content. Everything's going wonderful and I'm a very happy customer. I've also spoken to numerous friends about it and referred them to contact him if they need it.

What I'm waiting for is for Sunrun's brain guys to come up with a smaller, miniature sized panels that give the same amount of power and still do the job, so it don’t take up so much room in the roof. And that would look better. Other than that, I've been treated really well. I'm very pleased with them. They did a great job. They even came back and did a little repair work because one of the volts or nails came through the ceiling and it started to rain and it was leaking. They were able to fix it all up.
Thank you for your review, Martin! We definitely can agree that more efficient panels in a smaller size would certainly be a benefit for a lot of people. We're sure the technology will get there in the not-too-distant future! So happy to hear that Sunrun has been able to address any concerns that have come up in an efficient and friendly manner. Sounds like you've had an overall great experience! Congrats on going green, and thanks for helping us create a planet run by the sun!
