I wish I got more panels but Sunrun couldn't put them up on the roof because I'm joined with somebody else. So, there are rules and regulations, and where they can put them. But I notice the difference. I get this thing every month from Comm Ed. It shows, “Well, here are all of your neighbors, and here's the good neighbors, and you're just great!” So, I know I'm using less electricity from them.

Sunrun started the process during COVID, so we were on start, stop, start, stop. Then the system got activated early to late fall. But now, our electric use has just skyrocketed, so we're paying several hundred dollars more by the time we pay Sunrun and Green Mountain Power. Sunrun came and said they're good. The electric company also came and said they're good. But they all looked at our bills and said they don't understand what's going on. So, we have called an electrician to try and see if he could figure out what's going on. We have been paying a lot since last November and the bill started skyrocketing in December, so we were thinking it was because of the Christmas lights and trees. But it has continued.
Other than that, Sunrun's reps have been reasonably responsive, but not super responsive. They'd go online and look at the production then they'd say we're in line with others that are in our community, so they just don't think there's anything on their end. At one point, there was something wrong originally and they corrected that. But the system really hasn't made any difference in terms of our light bill being reduced and it's so much higher than it ever was. Everybody feels bad and nobody knows why, but we're just paying and paying.
We're frustrated and we have spoken to both Sunrun and Green Mountain Power at least half a dozen times a piece. We've also had a meeting on-site with both of them together and that amounted to everyone feeling like everything that was going on was okay on their end. They feel like they've done everything they could, but it hasn't solved any of the situation that we're dealing with. So, it’s very different than what they're feeling and we're hoping to get answers. Prior to solar, we were always under 300 for power and now, we're pushing 600 by the time we pay Sunrun and Green Mountain Power. And I know now that it's not winter so, we can look forward to generating more. But it still hasn't reversed the trend that we've been having since we started. At this point, I'm wondering if we need to have the system removed. Our experience has been very challenging and it has consumed a lot of our personal time.

Enrolling with Sunrun was a good thing. But it hasn't been good lately. I had a damaged roof that had to be repaired in February. Sunrun refused to come out and repair it so I had to pay for it. I am not paying Sunrun another dime until they talk to me. They were supposed to contact me over two months ago and they haven't done it yet. And every time I call, I get the runaround.

My sales guy from Sunrun was knowledgeable and confident. He knew what he was talking about and he answered all my questions. Also, it never felt like he was pushing it. It just felt like he was trying to help and it was a worthwhile endeavor. Then, the installation was great. The guys that were at my house were fantastic and they were tidy. I appreciated talking to them.
The experience with the system has been good. But I started in July so I didn't bank a lot of credits for solar. Then it resets in April and I ended up having to pay significantly more than I would have before, simply because of starting in July. I'm assuming that that's just a one-time occurrence. Other than that, I haven't noticed any issues with power and it's been pretty seamless, except I have a squirrel that wants to build a nest under it and that's been a bit of a challenge.

I have four houses in California that have solar systems installed by Sunrun. The people that worked on those were very professional. We never called them back for a problem so it’s very good. I'm very satisfied. The only thing was I was told that if I referred somebody, I could get a referral fee. I didn't get that referral fee for the one in Las Vegas.

Sunrun's reps were all excellent. They couldn't have been nicer. They're very patient. They explained everything very clearly. They worked as they came, put up everything quickly, and they were very efficient. I really like them. We got another property after that that they put the panels on. These are both in the same community. The way they work with Green Mountain Power is very efficient.
I don't see any downsides at all in going solar. You’re always saving money. You’re paying a certain amount. They give you this amount that you’re paying every month, and it doesn’t change. My electric bill has gone down considerably even with these two accounts I’ve got on in Lincoln. The savings was great. I'm buying another property that I'm definitely gonna put the solar panels on.

A sales rep came out and went over things with me. He was good and I liked what he was saying. The installers let me know they're gonna be out there and they went ahead and did what they had to do. The first design that they had was better than what I got now. What I thought they were going to put up there was not what went up because they said the city would not allow it. Right now, I would like for it to be a little bit different because the appearance of my house from outside doesn't look too good. The panels are mostly to one side of the house.
They could at least put six more panels to the front to even it out and give my house a better appearance. Right now, I have a pipe running straight across over my living room and it's so visible from the street. I tried to get Sunrun to put a few more panels to the side that I didn't like but they didn't respond. If they could only do that for me, I'd be very happy. Other than that, I like Sunrun's service. In the wintertime, my bill is high but in the summertime, it goes down. I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar.

Searching for solar panel companies, I did a lot of research and a few different lists mentioned Sunrun. I thought, “Okay. They've got a good reputation on three different lists.” I contacted them and let them know what I needed. They sent their representative out to give me an estimate on the solar panels on the roof then we talked about financing. I chose Sunrun over other companies and initially, the process went very well. The project manager came out to look at the house and go over my monthly electrical costs so she could put together an estimate for me. She was friendly and easy to work with. I thought she would be my project manager for the entire project, but that turned out not to be the case.
Sunrun gave me a different project manager after the project started. I wasn't aware that they made that change, so I initially kept sending emails to her rather than the new project manager. Disclosing the new project manager would have gone over better. Another concern was Sunrun did not inform me about one aspect of the battery backup system, and clearly, that caused some extra expenses on my part. So, I told Sunrun, “I want the battery backup system for the house. And I want it set up so that if there's a power outage, the battery backup system automatically kicks in so I never lose power to certain parts of the house.” They set up the battery backup, but they didn’t connect it to the circuitry of the house, or they had not planned to do so
They changed my request and when I found out later, they said, “Oh, we did tell you. It was on the documents.” I went back to the document, and lo and behold, it said "outlet for battery backup system". I realized they were just gonna put an outlet on the outside of the house, and so to power my home, I would need to run an electrical extension cable out to the battery and then bring that into the house and plug things in. That was not what I wanted. I wanted to be able to turn on the lights and do a lot more. I wouldn’t be able to plug that stuff into an outlet. I wish they had made that clear upfront, like, “Oh, you had asked for the battery backup to just kick on automatically during a power outage, and that we changed to be an outlet-based power supply system.”
That was something I did not like. I asked, “What do I need to change this?” They said, “Oh, you'll need to hire an electrician to take the four parts of the house that you want powered and put them on the main panel outside rather than a separate electrical panel, which is in one of the bedrooms.” I was like, “Oh, okay.” I had to hire an electrician to do this for a few hundred dollars. I had to complete that and that was separate as well, so that was on my own expense. I wish they told me that upfront. They also said they had to do it because those circuits through the house were on the subpanel in the bedroom rather than on the main panel outside. I was like, “Okay. If you had disclosed that to me upfront, I would have known to ask about that upfront.”
Another thing is I originally thought they would do the installation that November or December of 2019. However, they had some of their installation crew busy at the time, so they couldn't work on that. They rescheduled to March/April of 2020. That was when the shutdown started because of the pandemic. The electrical crew couldn’t come out. It got rescheduled yet again. Finally, the electrical crew came out in June to do the work. They did a thorough job. They were professional as well as easy to interact and work with. They knew their stuff and I could talk to them, like as one engineer to another. It was like, “Okay. This guy understands stuff.” I liked the electrical crew that came out. They also used high-quality materials from the equipment to the battery and to the solar panels.
I recommend the materials that they used. I also liked working with guy who came out and did the roof survey, where to put panels and did the electrical analysis of the house. On the other hand, project management could’ve been handled better. Overall, I still recommend Sunrun, but just know that you might have to be on top of things. You have to look at the details and some of the documents to be fully aware of what's going on ‘cause they may not disclose it. “Oh, we changed this on one of the documents or changed this thing on the electrical diagram.” You also need to know what that means.

The sales rep with Sunrun was cool but I haven't seen him anymore. I needed to know more information about the solar service. Customer service sucked. When I need to know some information, it’s very hard to get. Sunrun ain’t gonna tell you anything. I got a Sunrun bill and still ComEd would hit me sometime. I need someone to talk to about what I've been saving since I started. I'm still a little in the dark.
When they were installing the solar panels, a police officer came to my house and he was asking me about somebody that had lost a cellphone. I said I didn't know anything about it. Then the guy whose cellphone was lost came to the house and said that his phone was beeping from my house. One of the guys that were putting the solar panels on my roof had stolen the guy’s phone from his restaurant. We went up on my roof and found the cell phone hidden in the corner, on one of my tracks on my roof. I was told the guy was fired the next day but I had to go through all that, the policeman coming, looking like I stole the phone.

I have recently purchased my home in Jan 2021. I took over the contract from the previous owners. Since buying my home I have not received any energy from Sunrun's solar panels and have to still pay them, along with ConEd. It has been 5 months and I am calling every week, no one calls me back although every time I call they say someone will call me back within 2 weeks. It's so ridiculous and unbelievable, being a new and first-time homeowner my number one issue has been with SunRUN. I do not recommend them to ANYONE.
On top of this, their system has an issue with setting up autopay although I have called multiple times and confirmed that it is set up. They charge me $15 extra every payment cycle for not having autopay even though it is an issue on their side. I have to call every billing cycle to have someone manual put in my payment, and them telling me the $15 is waived, when IT actually is NOT! Please believe all the bad reviews. They are true. Sunrun sucks.

Enrollment was okay, but I was not too happy with the results. I never saw the benefit of the consumption. I was overpaying for a couple of months and I still don't see the savings because they promised that my regular City bill would be around $15 a month. It's never been $15. I'm still paying the same amount with the City bill and I still have to pay Sunrun's fee. I escalated to a supervisor from the sales team that came to my house and all he did was ignore me. I have all proof in an email that I sent to customer service and to himself. He never replied to me.
The salesman that helped me out, Stuart, was the only one apologizing, but it didn't help the business aspect that I came across larger amounts of bills than I was anticipating. Other friends of the family got solar with other companies and their bill was what they were told it was gonna be, $15 for the City, and then around 115 for the regular Sunrun lease. My overall experience is zero out of 10. First, they took a long time to come out. Second, they had to reschedule two times then, the guy that came to do the panel made a hole in the wall and never fixed it. It's still there inside of the house. Little stuff like that. By the way, I did two homes, expecting the best, but I got the worst.

There was a little hiccup during the installation of our solar system. I have a metal roof and they weren't hitting the purlins underneath. They were denting up the roof. They had to go back and reengineer things and got them trimmed out. Also, we're doing the lights in their warehouse in the office. They hadn't paid for them yet and we're just trying to see where that is.

I called Sunrun and spoke with Christopher, a sales rep. I told him the size of my house and he pulled it up on satellite. He saw what it looked like and where it was. I also called the other local solar companies and told them what I wanted but they never called me back. Christopher, however, did and he gave me a proposal within a few days. He also told me what to expect. The system installation was done in the summertime while I was in my summer home. Christopher told me that I would probably now only get one bill a year from my old power company but I haven't yet.
This past year, it was recorded on my Sunrun app that I wasn't generating any electricity. I called for support to see what had gone wrong and was told that Sunrun had heard of this same thing from several other customers and that they were doing their best to get the issue taken care of. In three days, they did and my system started producing again. That was the only problem I've had to date. Other than that, I'm completely satisfied. But if I ever see a problem, I need a phone number that will get me right to somebody who would get contractors out there to see what is going on or could look on the computer and fix it. I don't have that number now.

Going solar seems to be good since we're not having to pay anything and we hope it's going to continue. It's been a year and when we got the solar panels from Sunrun, it was hot weather and it took a while for it to get to where it is now. We were happy with all the people. The man who came out and sold this to us was very honest. He sold us extra panels but the right amount, so we don’t have to pay any taxes or fees. I'm waiting on the electric bill to see if it's gonna continue to be like that.
The only thing that I’m unhappy with is that we decided, because it's so hot here, that we wanted to get a patio cover on our patio. I called because we need to have the front row of panels moved since they put them right down to the edge and that's going to cost us over $1,000. I can't afford that and I was very unhappy because we just had it done and they didn’t say anything about what it’s going to cost us if we put a roof on there. But all the people who came out to install everything were very nice and I give them all a 10 plus.

I asked the salesman, he answered. And he had proof that still holds true to this day. I don't feel like I'm cheated. I get my questions answered and not left in the cold. I have follow-up and follow through, and that's what a solar company needs. It's not like, “Well, I'm gonna sell you a car and then I'm out of there.” That's not what happens Sunrun. That's what is important with solar. It's not the equipment that sits on your roof, it's the questions that get answered. And it's the people that hold my hand afterwards, when I get scared, and my neighbors say I made a big mistake. When they say, “Hey, you got your bill, let me help you understand it. Put a heater out there, so you don't waste the gas because the gas isn't solar.” It's the things they tell me. To this day, I can still call the salesman when I get my true up and say, “What's going on?” And he answers me, so I don't feel like an idiot. I've since referred all of my friends to the salesperson.

It's now OVER 6 YEARS LATER and we pay over $1,500 yearly in trueup bills in addition to our SunRun monthly bill. SunRun has Tesla batteries but THEY WON'T WORK ON OUR "OLD" SYSTEM!!! SunRun refuses to retrofit our system to work with a battery or replace our system to one that is compatible with their battery AND they will not remove our system saying they are within their contracted agreement. EVERY TIME we ask for something in writing regarding all of the continued battery promises initially and over the six years, they won't put it in writing.
With our current system, if we go into higher tiers with the electric company, as we can't store our own generated electricity, they charge us a lot but if our solar system doesn't generate their contracted amount, SunRun pays us pennies on the dollar which is why we need the battery backup that WE WERE PROMISED! Not to mention the hours and hours that we've wasted on hold on the phone and countless e-mails trying to resolve this problem just to get what they promised us. After we were with the Sunrun sales lady, within a month, there was a guy who came out here, looked over the roof and made sure that it would work for their solar stuff. The next month, they were out here installing it. They took the longest time. When they installed it, I was waiting for the electric company to put in their meters and verify everything. It had to go through the state, had to verify that it was okay. And then the power company had to verify that it would work on the grid without causing interruptions. And then they had to eventually change the meter out. We started in February, and it was on by the first week of July. Overall, it was a good experience. My electric bill is only $25 a month. That’s the greatest part. We were paying 190 to 200 a month. The lowest amount that they can do was 26.50. So just the service and recovery fee that they charge. Costco generally provides good services and products. So, any partner of Costco must be good too. The installers were an excellent and very fun crew. They had no problem in explaining what was going on. And they were super quick. They cleaned up any messes that were created in the process. Our rep, Melissa, whenever we were discussing the build-out, she looked through information. And I specifically designed a system that would provide a bit of overage. In the summertime, I got an $85.51 bill from Sunrun and a $15 bill from Gas and Electric that came up to $100. I was paying about $110 a month. I don't understand the billing. In one month, it would be 51 and 41 the next. Then, it’d be back up to 51. And not a cloud in the sky and it’s 93 degrees outside.

After looking at the initial design and being concerned their design didn't take into account a very large tree on my property, I was assured by the sales team that it wasn't a problem and shouldn't affect system performance, and would be fixable. After 2 years, the system is severely underperforming (about 50% of the guaranteed output). Besides the hundreds of dollars they'll owe me in underage, there is apparently little incentive for Sunrun to fix the poorly designed system. Their system, at current performance that they won't fix, effectively charges me $0.22/kWh, when power supplier is closer to $0.04/kWh.
Underperformance had resulted in substantial electricity bills from supplier, in addition to the lease payment (that increases annually and will be almost $160/month at year 25, with system output decline will amount to paying $2.00/kWh). If you're considering signing a lease, please do the math on the total cost of lease over 25 year term and make sure you comfortable with design (takes into account all shade). Finally, I'm fearful that the (underperforming and costly) system will make my home more difficult to sell...there really isn't a cost-free remedy for a home sale that doesn't include a transfer of lease...and that feels predatory.
I have been in almost monthly contact with Sunrun to fix the issue and their Customer Service is lackluster. They've never once offered a solution to the problem (that was completely unforeseeable to me as a customer, but could have been prevented from their end with just a better shade study). I don't feel like this company cares about customers.

Sunrun was doing a partnership with Costco as far as advertising and products there and at the time, I talked to their rep. I also ended up talking to several other companies and I went with Sunrun because I trust Costco. The enrollment process was not too complicated and I found it easy to understand, to follow along, and to know what steps were next. Every single person that handled each step always explained what was coming next and what to expect when they handed me off to the next one. Then from there, I also had a very smooth communication with the next rep. Since the panels were installed, I'm not worried about my electrical bill and I know what it's going to be every month. We can plan on it and budget for it, so that's a big help.

My energy usage has jumped nearly 3 times normal after the system was installed. I have tried to contact Sunrun numerous times and received responses from their customer service ranging from obstinance to apathy. There is absolutely no oversight agency that enforces regulations or punishment if they don't honor their end of the agreement. Do not be sold one of the these systems by a slick salesman. Avoid Sunrun at all costs.

I'll try to be brief, but anyone reading this should avoid Sunrun at all costs. They're garbage. My family installed these panels a few years ago. They worked for a couple of years, and then stopped. For 2+ years these panels have produced Z-E-R-O electricity. The Sunrun person has literally just strung my family along for 2+ years, claiming replacement panels are on the way. Clearly, they are not. Nothing scheduled. No desire to do anything.
At this point, I intend to get a lawyer, and will be looking into filing a lawsuit against Sunrun. Because we cannot sell the house, change the roof, do any work on the house with their non-functional solar panels there. Honestly, the idea this company gets any new customers is laughable -- all that is left are us rubes, who wanted to make the world a little cleaner by investing in solar. We chose Sunrun, and we chose poorly. Shame on this garbage scam of a company for giving clean energy such a dirty name.

When I requested a quote from SunRun I laid out very specifically that I wanted a 10KWH Solar System with 2 Tesla Batteries. What I got was 2 Tesla Batteries, 10KW in Panels and 7.6KW in Inverters. Of Course I did not know that Sunrun was going to claim this as a 10KWH system, which it is not. It is an efficient 7.6KWH system.
Here is the problem, I am losing approximately 30% of production at the peak hours of the day because Sunrun felt it was prudent to install Inverters that do not match the 315W panels and clip at peak production of the panels. This equates to $500+ dollars lost in energy costs over the year. Had Sunrun spent the extra $900 on the correct inverters I would not be having this issue. You see they installed the IQ7 inverters which are 240W max continuous, when they should have installed the IQ7+ inverters at 290W max continuous output. Over 32 inverters, this is a huge loss of production.
SunRun Refuses to update the inverters because their production guarantee (which is calculated on a mysterious formula they don't release) is being met at what they claim is 120%. The problem is it is calculated on a 7.6KWH system not a 10KWH system. Bottom line is that I required a 10KWH and pre-paid the lease for that understanding, but did not receive that.
Don't get me wrong the system they installed works and the installers were attentive and did a decent job, but on the back end, customer service has done nothing to address the misleading contract and the fact that they are not meeting the details of the system I thought I was getting. My Advice to others is to ask for the engineering documents up front and make sure your AC and DC outputs match and research the inverters they are planning to put in and do your own Math BEFORE they install as this looks to be an ROI issue for SUNRUN and they will spend less to save themselves on the cost of the upgraded inverters and then mislead you about your actual system size by using a production Guarantee number that favors poor production.

SHORT VERSION: Locked me into 20-year lease before I even had somebody measure my roof. It was described as a form to authorize further work to get a more detailed system design (send out a measurer to my house), but in it was the 20-year lease contract. I started asking detailed questions anyone doing a long-term contract should ask, didn't get answers, looked further, and saw what I had unknowingly agreed to.
LONG VERSION: I was interested in seeing how a lease setup would work and if it would be feasible for me. The phone consultation was thorough and seemed great. In order to move from computer-based estimate to a measurement of my rooftops, I had to sign some form. It was presented in a way that did not allow for reading and absorbing the form. First red flag. Next step was a measurement to determine a layout that may work. The following day I emailed my contact a question regarding my billing and didn't get a response.
Measurement tech came the following week and was excellent. He rescheduled due to me being sick, and arrived on-schedule. He was great. Two days after that I got a call from my contact saying that the survey went well and we're set up for a May 22nd install. I didn't give the go-ahead as far as I knew, so I assumed that was the date we'd get if I said 'yes'. I asked him the question that I hadn't gotten an email response from, but the call came when I was in the middle of something else and couldn't really absorb his answer.
The next day, I asked my contact 10 questions via email. Shortly thereafter I received an email and call from a project coordinator assigned to my project, introducing herself. This is when I really got concerned. It felt like the project was moving forward as if I had agreed to it, but I wasn't getting the kind of information I needed to make a decision. I emailed the project coordinator to let her know that I wasn't ready to continue and requested a reply. I didn't get a response.
I happened to check the form that I had signed in order to authorize the measurement and discovered to my great horror that it was a contract for a 20-year lease on the system. I had 10 days from the contract date to cancel without a 4-digit fee ($1200 I think). In about 3 hours was going to be the deadline of that cancellation. I was panicking.
I called my contact late in the day (after 9 PM) and he was on a conference call. He said we'll talk tomorrow (Day 11) and he'll answer my questions. I printed the cancellation form, signed it, photographed it, and emailed it to the email address listed. At this point, I don't trust SunRun, so the following day I mailed the physical letter to SunRun with a delivery confirmation.
I went in to a call with SunRun looking to see if a solar panel lease would work for me and ended up unwillingly agreeing to a 20-year lease on a system that I couldn't get detailed answers about and was minutes away from being locked into a decades-long contract I didn't want. I feel like a fool for believing in the company. Once you're locked-in it seems like your support vanishes. TREAD VERY CAREFULLY or look elsewhere.

1. Original salesman first told us it made no sense to buy instead of leasing. When we crunched the numbers and decided to buy, he said he agreed buying makes the most sense. Nice, but definitely a snake oil salesman vibe.
2. People frequently showed up to our house without warning. The homeowner needs to be informed if people are coming to your property!
3. The installation team left trash on our roof and ground, leaving my property dirtier than it was when they arrived. They did not use drop cloths to protect our colored/stamped concrete, they spilled tar on the concrete that I had to point out, and they did not sweep up our property when they finished.
4. The project coordinator didn’t know we could get more cash back from Costco by upgrading our membership like our salesman told us, and even after telling him about it, the paperwork he prepared still did not reflect the proper dollar amount and had to be redone. He also took up to 2 weeks to reply or wouldn’t reply at all. He was HORRIBLE at communication. When I complained to someone else, I was told, “He’s just really busy.”
5. Nobody knew my city does not issue "permission to operate" notices. My account was "utility active" for 4-6 weeks, ready to be activated, but Sunrun REPEATEDLY told me I had to keep waiting to receive a “PTO” from the city. This cost me an extra month’s worth of energy costs with my utility company (connected to grid March 12, finally activated on April 17). What’s worse is I regularly asked for updates from Sunrun about the “PTO” and they always just told me to keep waiting. The way they discovered my city doesn’t issue “PTO’s” is because I was the one that contacted the city and I’m the one that educated Sunrun about it! When I asked for them to own up to their mistake, my email went unanswered.
6. A technician from the utilities company installed our digital meter BEFORE the final inspection, which is apparently out of order and Sunrun didn’t know why. He also reprimanded ME because our system was turned on and set to standby mode so it could be activated remotely by Sunrun afterwards. Then he turned my system off and put a lock on the switch. When I told Sunrun it, they said, "In my entire career, I've never heard of or seen a utility technician do that." (Also known as the “play dumb” tactic.)
7. Communication between the company employees/reps was poor and I received conflicting information from different employees.
8. Not a single Sunrun employee owned up to any of these issues when I brought them up. I did get one or two half-assed generic apologies for delays and whatnot, but nobody actually ever admitted any fault for these things.
9. Four months to get up and running is too long in my opinion. For spending $42K, the process needs to take a new approach to speed things up.
Despite all these issues, the equipment quality is nice and I'm finally producing solar energy, but I am SO glad to be done with Sunrun and SO happy I'm not locked into a lease!

In December of 2019 a Horizon/Sunrun sales rep met with my wife and I at our home (**) and reviewed each one of our Edison Bills. The rep stated 10 panels would be more than enough to generate the needed power for our home and stated we would be in a surplus. We signed that night as we had to in order to "lock in a lower rate" and to receive their $500.00 check incentive for new customer. We cancelled the next day after further review because their rate would increase 3% each year while the value of the panels would decrease.
We were then offered a new deal with an even lower at $0.13 per Kilowatt to which we would only pay $51.00 a month for the 25 years. We were told we would get 24/7 monitoring so that if there were any issues with the panel or if we were to ever use more power than we generated we would be notified immediately so we could add additional panels as needed. We also negotiated for an Electric Car Charger to be installed at our home. Since we signed we have had one issue after another.
Our initial install was not completed in full. Our inspection was cancelled by Sunrun because the install was not completed correctly in which we would have failed the inspection. We have had to take several days off of work to be available for Sunrun and inspections. Not only have we missed work we have also spent countless hours reaching out to Sunrun trying to get the many issues we have experienced resolved. Had it not been for us reaching out we may very well still have Solar Panels sitting on our roof that were never turned on because Sunruns follow through is simply non existent. We have asked Sunrun to add the additional panels and honor our contracted rate at $0.13 per Kilowatt as it is not of our fault that our system was inadequately built. If they are unwilling to do that then to release us from our contract and take their equipment. Sunrun is unwilling to do either. Instead they want to act as if the fault lies on us.
We recently received our bill from Edison which shows we now owe them over $1,000.00 because our Solar Panels did not generate enough power for our home. Never were we notified (as promised) that we were using more energy than we were generating. Knowing we have a contracted rate I reached out to Sunrun. On March 19th 2021 I spoke with Amy ** and explained what has been going on. She told me that 10 panels never would have been enough for the size of our home. She stated 10 panels is more for a home in the 900 Square Feet range.
We scheduled another meeting for March 21st 2021 so she could review our contract and see our energy usage per the Edison bill I sent her. On our call Amy advised we would need to add an additional 12 panels to our home in order to generate the needed electricity. She advised our contracted rate of $0.13 per kilowatt is too low and if we want to add the additional panels we would need to pay $0.18 per Kilowatt and that our monthly invoice would go from $51.00 a month to $160.00+ a month. Three times the amount we are currently paying to correct a mistake on their side.
I feel it is not only unethical but criminal to lie to consumers in order to lock them into a 25 year contract knowing full well that the service they were sold will underperform and not meet their needs. This feels like a scam to force consumers to spend more out of pocket later on. If Sunrun had any integrity they would honor our contracted rate for the additional 12 panels as we are not getting the service we expected when we signed up. Again, if they will not do that I would like them to release us from our contract and take back their equipment. We are not asking anything outrageous. Sunrun has gone so far to block me on Twitter as I have commented negatively about them several times now. They obviously do not care about their customers and they should be investigated.

Inherited our system and contract when we purchased our current home in 2013. Had not dealt with solar prior to moving to here, and were required to assume the contract in order to purchase the home. Solar bills have been extremely high and do not cover our normal electric usage. The Kwh rates on the contract are much higher than the current Kwh rates from the utility, and are escalating at 2.9% annually. We pay upwards of $400/month during the summer to Sunrun and still have a true-up bill exceeding $700 per year.
Our electrical usage is not obscene. Most lighting in the house is LED, thermostat set at 80 deg in the summer. We have contacted Sunrun to see if there is anything that can be done to modify the contract, and the response has been poor at best. We did receive some communication initially. They requested true up bills in order to perform an analysis, and said they would see if they can adjust the contract. This was in September 2020, and we have yet to receive anything back. Have called and emailed the person assigned to our case, and she has not responded at all.
Contacted the general customer service line, and they directed us to the case worker. We stated that she has not responded to repeated calls/emails. They stated to try her again. Now we have received an email from general customer service that she has not contacted us because the case is closed. I do not understand how the case can be closed when nothing was done! I would not recommend Sunrun to anyone at this point. They know they have us locked into a bad contract and they do not need to respond.

I had my system installed in 2012, so I have tons of data to support what I am saying. Unfortunately, I feel like I was an early adopter to this technology for residential use. I pay for what my panels produce. My rate goes up annually through the term of a 20 year contract. They maintain the system and what I don't use is 'sold back to the grid'. Salesman sold hard on the 'savings' that the system would create by not paying the ridiculous Tier 3 rates from SCE. I now pay more than SCE Tier 3 rates for every KwH that my system produces, but I sell the energy I don't use back at Tier 1 or less. I really only noticed this after an extensive deep dive into my costs.
I had another rep. from Sunrun come to my house and 'offer' to make my system right by having a second expanded system added to my roof. They would not combine the systems, so it meant another inverter, meter and wiring running on the side of my home, not the greatest. Meanwhile, the 'new' system would be a fixed rate that is MUCH lower than my current rate (lower than SCE Tier 1). I understand that I have signed a contract and that the terms (no matter how shady and hidden they were) were in there somewhere. I was completely willing to add to my system, sign a new contract, and be a life long Sunrun customer....all I asked is for them to fix the current systems per KwH rate. I spoke to salespeople, customer service both on phone and in email.
They completed a cost savings analysis that ultimately showed a breakeven at the current rate (though there is still 10 more years of increases to come). I thought any company in their right mind would be willing to make the whole system right for maintaining good customer rapport. They were not. I got an extremely curt email from Angel **, basically saying 'you signed it, so deal with it' so I did. Here's where it gets tricky, my system all of a sudden 'went down' for the past 2 months. When I analyze my usage of all power directly coming from SCE versus the same time last year over these two months. I find that somehow the amount I am consuming from SCE has hardly changed. I'm not selling anything back, because I have no system production.
Because I have no production, I am not paying anything to Sunrun and my overall electrical cost has been cut in half! There is literally no way any rep. or anyone else could explain this away. Basically, it seems like I pay Sunrun for all my production and yet still pay SCE for all my consumption. I have crunched these numbers 50 different ways and tried to look at them to come to another conclusion, but there is no way to do that. If anyone from Sunrun would like to sit down with me and work on a solution that truly represents exceeding customer expectation, I would be more than happy to. If not, I just have a sneaky suspicion that my system will never work right again.

I currently am waiting to see how honest, and accurate their promised credits will be for months of underproduction, and inconvenience. If I had time to see if, and how they live up to supplying us with a decent credit I may have considered 3 stars. The panels work well, when they are working. However the amount of time it has taken for the issue to get fixed, and the amount of people that have promised to do so, I would not go over 3 stars.

During the summer of 2020, one of my solar panels shorted out and tried the breaker. It took Sunrun several months and several trips to repair the issue. I was told they would reimburse my lost power production at the anniversary date of my agreement. In November 2020, something (likely a falling bullet) broke one of the panels on the front roofline of my house. I reported it to Sunrun, who advised via email nearly 3 months later that they aren't going to replace the panel. Interestingly enough, 3 days after telling me they aren't replacing my shattered panel, I received an email that they won't review my refund for the lost power until next year. I left messages to talk to someone, no response. No customer service, slow repairs, refund delays (I'm expecting to be denied), and no coverage for broken panels (they'll leave a shattered panel on your roof that's visible from the ground); that's Sunrun!

I am very disappointed with the newer billing format because it doesn't show any of this information, and it should! Please revise the billing format to the way it was, previous to December. Purchased my home in 2017. The house already had Sunrun solar so I was forced to take over the lease. Payments were a bit high but I figured it would just offset my electric bill. Hahahaha, yeah right. My electric bill is higher now than ever before. I get a yearly bill around $1800 every Oct for my yearly usage. That avgs $150 a month. So with the solar lease at $185/mo plus my electric bill, my total electric bill avgs $335 a month (my house is 2200 sq ft). Never paid that much on any house I've owned EVER!! Jan 2020, I call customer service, they say they will review my account and ask for my last 12 electric bills. I send them, 4 months go by, nothing. I call them, they say they are still working on it.
Month nine I call back, they apologize and say someone will get back to me. A few weeks later I get an email basically saying they reviewed my account and I'm using more energy than I'm producing. That's it. Company is a joke. The panels do not put out anything near what the contract says I should expect. I called back again to get another review of my account in 2021. They see the previous notes in the call and this time they assure me a manager will be in contact within 48 hours. It's been a month, still nothing. Save yourself money and aggravation. Their panels are mediocre on a good day, service is atrocious. Once you sign on the dotted line, they own you. I would absolutely never use them again or recommend them to anyone.

Sunrun installed a PPA on my mother's shake roof. The roof was in need of repair and replacement at the time of install. The sales rep told my mother not to worry that when she had the financing for replacing the roof they would do so for $500. There is nothing in the contract that they had her sign that shows this and we have been trying to get this issue resolved for over 4 months.
We sent a demand letter indicating we needed to remove the panels and install a new roof as the current roof is a health hazard and leaking. My mother is elderly and should not have been taken advantage in this manner. She told the rep she needed a new roof prior to install but they preyed upon her age and installed anyway and now they will not respond to her demand letter to remove the panels to install the needed new roof. STAY AWAY FROM ANY PPA from SUNRUN. They are a predatory company that will not respond to your requests after install. We have been assigned a case manager tier escalator that is non responsive.

I signed up for solar back in late October 2019. I had it installed in early March. So far so good. They told me after that it would take 2 weeks for inspection by the village and another 2 weeks for approval from ComEd. Then covid hit the world and seems like Sunrun's systems must of went down since no one was answering or following up with me. If not for David the sales rep, I would never get thru to anyone. When I finally got thru to someone, they tried using covid as an excuse as to the hold up on the city inspection. They tried to say the city was not doing inspections due to covid. I work for a roofing company, so I believed them. After a few months of waiting and seeing my newly installed panels not take advantage of the summer sun, I called the city to see if I as a homeowner could get them to do an inspection.
To my surprise when they told me they have never stopped doing inspections for solar installs. So I set the inspection. I was not there for the first inspection and was expecting to get an approval from ComEd within 3 weeks. After not hearing anything I called Sunrun and that is when they told me that it had failed the inspection and they would fix the problem and reschedule the reinspection. But were not able to explain why nothing has been done about it until I called them. Apparently the tech that came out never put notes in the system. A few weeks go by again and nothing until I call them up and they tell me the city is asking them to reapply for the permit again and is being difficult. So I called the inspector up again and he tells me what Sunrun is telling me makes no sense and again I scheduled the re inspection. This time I was there with the inspector, and again it failed and Sunrun had to come out again to fix couple more things.
After the third inspection finally passed I was hoping to finally get this done. And again nothing until late November. After calling the project coordinator and getting nothing I talked to my sales rep that if we don't get this resolved by Christmas, then they can come and get their panels and cancel the contract. After a month, nothing, I called David to start the cancelation process and in couple days by miracle I get the approval to connect. Almost 14 months after signing with them and it's finally on. Too little too late. I lost the whole summer of sun that according to them would have covered me for summer and most of winter. I had a bunch of friends and neighbors waiting for this process so they can sign up and be my referrals, but I lost that also.
Why would I refer anyone to a company as unprofessional as Sunrun. They can't even get the contract straight. It clearly states in multiple sections what my final bill would be as 2 different amounts. Completely misleading without explanation as to why the difference. It's only under $400 in difference. Not sure how they can claim to be the largest solar provider. Sunrun's reply for me losing all the sun credit and referrals was only $500 credit. David ** you were great and the only thing positive about Sunrun, but it's a shame you have managers who don't value their customers.

Updated on 06/20/2021: I complained the last time and they fixed it. It was a bunch of naive customer service who didn't know what they were saying and I had to wait for a supervisor to call within two days. Even with that there was no assurance the supervisor will call. I called the last time and the customer service was great and provided me with me a lot of information. I must commend them for that, they listen to customer complaints and fix them.
Folks and new sign-ups, federal and States give credit for using solar, Sunrun takes all credit and apply none to your cost. I complained the last time and the customer service was so dumb to tell me the federal government might come up with a new legislation about credit, so I shouldn't worry about what they stole from me. Such a dumb answer!. Folks the credit is for you and not for Sunrun, don't let them take them. Sunrun be smart on that and give me the credit. Looking for other platforms to complain if this is not fixed. Grazie!!!
Original Review: I've had a terrible experience from Sunrun. I'll never recommend it to anyone. Half of the time, customer service reps do not know what they are saying. When you ask for a supervisor, they tell you supervisors will call you 2-3 days (WOW)! If you are lucky to hear from the so called supervisor, it will be through an email, saying in the email your issue is resolved.
I bought a house last year 2020 from someone who already had a contract with Sunrun so I had no option but to go with Sunrun. Before signing the contract, they wouldn't answer any questions because they said I don't own it. After the contract, it got worst. The government solar credits goes to them not you. I still have a ton of questions to ask them, but I guess they don't care. I will keep on sending reviews on all media platforms until they change. UNTIL THEN, SUNRUN FIX YOURSELF!!!. SCAM!!!

I honestly regret choosing Sunrun as a solar provider. In February 2020, I met with a Sunrun sales rep. and immediately signed a contract. In March 2020, my panels was installed. Sunrun turned my system on in early July 2020 and I’ve been experiencing system failure ever since. I contacted Sunrun in mid July and a technician came out a few weeks later. The tech specified that my system is under performing, not syncing, and automatically shutting down.
Now December 2020, I’ve paid Sunrun 4 months of solar bill even though the system is not performing and I have to reply mainly on my electric service provider (PPL Electric) Sunrun don’t care much to fix this issue because they’re still getting paid. Sunrun customer service told me I have to pay regardless of if the service is working or not. I’ve contacted Sunrun numerous times about this issue and promised a call back but never got any call back. I’ve sent multiple emails and get the same auto response every time without a call or email.
Now, January 2021. Someone finally came out and fixed the problem. I’ve been receiving calls from Sunrun almost everyday because I failed to pay them for a system that was not generating energy. I filed a claim to get my money back that I already paid them. It’s February and I still haven’t received a call or email about my claim. I honestly would not recommend them to anyone because the customer service is poor, communication is poor and the production service is poor. I definitely recommend going with another company.

I "leased" solar panels from SunRun about 2 years ago. Nothing but problems since. Installers showed up without permits and with the wrong supplies. Our rep was supposed to help with everything, he disappeared. Crews show up without notice. You can never reach anyone to ask a question. Appointments are made automatically, without consulting the customer. The most recent experience made me realize I made the wrong decision by using this company. We found metal clips in the gutter this fall. Called SunRun. Was told to send a photo. Did that the same day. OVER A MONTH goes by, no word. I send the guy another email. Only then does he create a case. An appointment was made without my input. No one showed up.
Got another email that afternoon that the appointment had been changed. No call. No text. Called customer service, were told we'd be first on the list the next morning. No one showed up until 11:45. He was here for 5 minutes. Said the clips weren't a big deal and then sat in his car in front of the house for another 10 minutes. SunRun does email you a report of what was done. Apparently, he went on the roof and checked everything. The guy never got the ladder off his vehicle. I wrote a letter to both Lynn Jurich (CEO) and Chris Dawson (Chief Operations Officer). I got a random call from not the CEO or COO, but someone in customer service. She had no answers, and I don't think that she even read the letter. I got an email later in the week saying the clip issue was resolved. That wasn't the issue. Horrible customer service and lack of any regard for their customers. They are only after your money.

I had a Sunrun Solar System installed in my previous home that I sold and decided to install a Sunrun Solar System in my new home. I contacted the Sunrun Rep that provided me with a quote with a price that was acceptable so I signed the Sunrun agreement. Sunrun came out inspected my home and roof and indicated that everything looked good, they just were waiting for permits to start. However, about 6 weeks after I signed the Sunrun agreement, the Sunrun Rep called me and said that the roof estimate they received from their subcontractor was $1,900 more than they had anticipated, so I was going to have to come with an additional $1,900.
I informed the Sun Rep that I shouldn't have to pay the additional $1,900 for Sunrun's mistake. If Sunrun under estimated the cost for the roof it was their fault. Sunrun refused to pay the difference for their own mistake, so I cancelled the Sunrun Solar System. I refused to do business with a company that does not stand behind their own written agreement.

The goal was to install the solar panel before the end of the year for tax credit. They took the entire payment. The electricians came a few times each time fixing certain things but never said the project is not possible. Now four days before the New Year we have not heard from them, we called Sunrun. We were told the project was not possible and he (the person who took the call) did not know when they are going to return our payment, and there is no further information. I cannot believe the project gets cancelled without notifying the consuming, even with a contract in hand. What is the culture of Sunrun???

My Sunrun Acct # **. My Solar Panel stopped working in 1st week of July 2020. After trying several times on the phone and long wait time, I finally spoke to a representative to get an appointment to speak to someone who can schedule an appointment for a technician. So, basically I couldn't even speak to someone who could help me with my appointment. No one called me back to schedule an appointment for days. I called back again and same thing. Finally I spoke to someone and the earliest appointment I got was October 13, 2020. Someone came on October 13, 2020 and checked the equipment and said they will come back to fix the equipment. For days, I didn't get any update when they will come to fix it.
Finally, after reaching out to multiple people, I got a response that someone will come and fix the equipment on December 16, 2020. Meanwhile, Sunrun doesn't want to take responsibility of any of the bills I have been paying until they fix the system. They keep going back to the contract which states that they don't guarantee performance. However, they do have warranty but they can take as long as they want to fix the equipment, in my case it is almost 6 months (if they fix it on Dec 16, 2020). I don't understand how it is fair on homeowners who have taken a loan to pay for these solar panels. Now I am paying the loans and the electric bill and stuck with a bogus company for 10- 15 years of this kind of service. I am sure that I am not the only victim of this company. I hope one day someone will bring justice against this company.

We installed a leased Sunrun System on our home in approximately 2010. The initial experience was outstanding and the system produced as agreed with no issues. Issues began when we decided to sell our home. The transfer process was a nightmare at best, having to make numerous calls, be placed on hold for hours on end, and no response to emails or other correspondence. After we finally got the transfer approved and escrow closed, Sunrun continued to take funds out of my bank for the monthly lease. Again this was after the transfer was finalized and I canceled the auto payments.
The nightmare continued as I spent hours on the phone attempting to get the money back they stole from my checking account. The process became so difficult that my bank had to conduct a fraud investigation. In the meantime I'm still waiting on Sunrun to return my money and answer my questions on how this occurred. I have been in the real estate industry for over 20 years and a question that comes up frequently is the installation of residential solar. Based on my personal experience I tell them all that it is not worth it. This is not based on my experience, but that of other I have spoken to. I had Sunrun installed in Vista in 2018, they told me I would pay about 15-17 cents per KWH; with 15 panels, my monthly automatic withdraw from my account was $105.00. This means the system should generated roughly 700 KWH/month. Last year my system was down for TWO months of August and September, no power was generated and yet they still collect my money for 2 months without monitoring their system. I called multiple times, I got the bogus excuse that they were too busy. A few weeks later, someone came and fixed it, I was not notified, I just found a small cable on the ground. They didn't even pick up their trash.
When I started seeing high charge from SDG&E, I called Sunrun asking why my system is not producing as guaranteed, there we go again, more bogus excuses and I was passed from one person to another. A week later 2 guys showed up at my house and said I needed more panels and the monthly fees would therefore be higher. I said "HELL NO, until you fix your system or get it off my roof". They left promising that Sunrun will contact me about my complaint. NOTHING, NOBODY CALLED. MORE BROKEN PROMISES.
I called Sunrun again multiple times, I finally met a decent representative who asked me to send a copy of all my SDG&E bills for them to re-evaluate my system. I sent them in the next day, waited for 2 weeks then called the rep, she told me that she had passed (again) my email to another "SUNRUN GHOST" to re-evaluate them and would get back to me. UNTIL TODAY, NO RESPONSE. How long does it really take a person to do the evaluation.
Today folks, based on Sunrun record, my system generate roughly 5000KWH in 2019 and I pay $1308.00/year that is $.26/KWH instead of $17.00 in addition to a total of ~ $500.00 from SDG&E. I used to pay an average of $100.00/month with SDG&E alone. This is totally absurd and ridiculous. I am beyond an unsatisfied customer, I am a mad customer who want Sunrun to remove its worthless system and stop lying to its customer. I seriously not recommend Sunrun to anybody. In fact, my neighbor who knows about Sunrun business conduct has refused to talk to Sunrun rep. Message to Sunrun.. DELIVER YOUR PROMISE OR REMOVE YOUR LOUSY SYSTEM OFF MY ROOF. It is at the very least an ethical act to do.

I purchased a home in 2018 with a newer leased solar system. (The lease buyout option presented at the time I purchased my home was over 47k for 2 year old panels, so I continued with the lease option with monthly lease payments of over $115 & climbing.) I live in a district with very reasonable utilities (SMUD) so I knew solar wasn't going to be a huge cost saving option but I was hoping to break even, or save something. The 2 true-ups I've had with my electric company (SMUD), I have owed over $1k each year. I actually pay more in utilities, per month, for solar than I would had it never been installed. Mind you, the lease payments climb considerably over the duration of the lease and production is guaranteed to go down. So within the first 5 years, being in a low to no savings zone really doesn't bode well for the future.
(Fun fact: the previous home owners were 89&90 years old and had a family member sell them solar. THE 89&90 YO HOMEOWNERS DIDN'T EVEN SIGN THEIR OWN CONTRACT- the family member selling them the system signed their name. I have a copy of their original Sun Run contract and have their signatures all over our house sale docs so this can be easily proven.) Fast forward I buy the house anyway and now, I have been trying to get a cost savings analysis completed for 13 months. I have 13 months worth of documented communication attempts, dating back to September 2019. After escalation, a report was finally promised to me on October 9th but yet, here I am on October 30 (13 months) without anything. I know my solar system does not save me money. In fact, it has stopped working in the middle of summer twice the past 2 summers, which dispatches a customer service tech.
The techs have been kind & respectful while on the property but scheduled appointments are always weeks out so the system sits idle for 7 days to 2 weeks in the middle of summer when it should be producing the most. (2 weeks to a month of no production because it happens twice.) And let me mention, we actually replaced the circuit breaker ourselves when a tech couldn't figure it out after his second visit. The customer service team is absolutely horrendous. I don't think there is one. I am very reasonable. I have waited 13 months without complaint but this is outrageous and I am now considering legal options since this has to violate terms of service on their end. One of the perks of a lease, versus outright ownership, is that Sun Run agrees to maintain the system. Well, being able to get a hold of the company is an integral part of maintaining the system. TERRIBLE SERVICE.

I started shopping around for solar, and after a visit to Costco learned of SunRun. Though I preferred a local company, I decided to go with SunRun since the perks with Costco seemed quite good. Long story short, after I went through all of the motions with SunRun, they decided to cancel the contract after weeks working with them, and after they had me apply for a solar loan. Their reasoning was that my home is at 'too high of an altitude', which they knew from the get-go.
The irony is, my solar gain is quite nice due to the elevation. Anyway, the reason I'm writing this review is because those weeks I spent working with them ended up pushing me past the deadline to get everything installed this year with any other local company. SunRun's failure to be up-front with me from the beginning is now costing me money in a lessened Federal Tax Credit. Furthermore, they were dishonest and said they had other customers in my area, which is untrue if they can't install at my elevation. Lastly, I had a transaction appear on my account from the solar loan, even though they cancelled the contract. Bottom line is, I cannot recommend this company.

Since having the panels installed, it's been a nightmare. It was almost 4 months before the installation even began. Had to have technicians come out a couple of times, and each time they blew out power strips, circuit panel on our oven, our house phone, and the box that attached to our dish for cable. Went out to see what they were doing the second visit, and the inverter box was smoking. I kicked them off my property before I lost my house. Had to hire an electrician to check the wiring, and I have the report of everything Sunrun's technicians did wrong.
The electrician went into my attic to check things, and the panels were improperly installed for the type of roof I have, and went on to tell me in a high wind they possibly could blow off the roof, and they were too close together. It is a fire hazard. Sunrun had reimbursed us for what we had to replace but they also said they would send out a technician and supervisor to see why we are not sending to the grid. Today, Oct 25th 2020 I was told we are 100 percent producing and it would cost us 95.00 an hour to have our system checked. According to our electric company they aren't receiving anything from our panels, and we aren't benefiting from our panels either. I wish this company would take their garbage off our roof and close shop and disappear.

However, the system stopped reporting productivity in early June, after about 14 months, and in July I had a bill from the local power company that was equal to what I had paid before going solar. I monitor production, and sometimes, in bright sun, it works, sometimes not. A guy came out after a few months, confirmed that the system was malfunctioning, did nothing else. I have phoned and emailed Sunrun several times, to no avail. Once they told me I would hear from the technicians in Denver within five days, but they never contacted me. SunRun, when I call, acknowledges a problem and tries to connect me with maintenance, but the transfer never goes through. They tell me to try early in the morning, but how can that work when even internally they cannot connect?
Their website makes it impossible for you to contact the service department directly. Meanwhile, they are getting more threatening about my non-payments. So, let's say they finally fix the problem. I will have lost all the production from the Summer months, when the system over-produces, and will now be faced with paying SunRun and the local power company through the Winter, since I haven't banked any kw-hrs. I wish there was someone at SunRun I could talk to to reach a solution, but I see others posts on this forum that indicate that even a contact with the CEO doesn't yield any results. I am at my wits end, and have reconciled myself to the fact that SunRun will likely just ruin my credit rating due to their poor service. Environmentally, I feel I did the right thing but am now paying dearly for that. I would advise anyone to stay away from this company.

We have been having issues with our inherited solar panels since we moved in just over a year ago. We initially got a call from Sunrun last October (2019) to check on our solar panels. They told us we were producing less electricity than expected. They visited us in November, and the technician informed us that since the system was an older model, we would have to be serviced by a company called Trinity Solar. Trinity got in contact with us in December and scheduled a repair appointment for the end of the month. They were a no call no show. We called and left a message reporting this and received a call back at the end of January. As we were not available on weekdays at that point, the representative stated she would get us a weekend appointment and call us back. There was no call back.
We emailed Sunrun in February and let them know of the issues with Trinity. We finally managed to get an appointment for April for the repairs, but then COVID-19 happened, and the appointment got cancelled. In July, we got an appointment with Sunrun to replace our meter, which was malfunctioning, and so I brought up our previous issue with a technician that came out. He took a quick look at our system, verified our previous issue (we are producing approximately 1/4-1/2 the electricity we should be), and called his supervisor. Apparently our case had been closed, even though the issue had never been resolved. The supervisor re-opened the case, and told us to expect a follow up soon. After waiting two weeks with no contact, we called Sunrun at the beginning of August to check on the update. The representative said that our parts were in shipment, and that we should expect a email to create an appointment in two weeks or so.
It has now been eight weeks since that last call/contact, and 12 months since we were first alerted to the problem. I understand that coronavirus caused a great delay, but even without counting those seven months, that means that our problem still has not been fixed for at least five months of regular operating hours. Although every contact I’ve had with Sunrun has been polite and professional, there is no follow up with this company, promises are broken, and any issue will take forever to fix. I would not recommend Sunrun.

We are trying to contact Sunrun so that we can have our panels removed for reroofing. First call, hour plus hold time then got hung up on. Second call hour plus hold time, and they sent forms authorizing them to remove panels within 45 days for $4100. We’ve found another solar contractor to do the work sooner but need to get a liability release form from Sunrun. Have requested it in several emails, was on hold with a guaranteed callback but the only number they provided in a message was their one hour on hold number. Called their Investor Relations Department and Kelly called back and said she’d send a request to their escalation department. Haven’t heard back yet. Left my number for a callback again but received no callback. To say their customer service is terrible and they deserve even one star is not descriptive enough about how unresponsive they are.

Solar panels were put in partial shade areas and therefore I'm getting low production. Want the problem solved with production or end lease and have system removed. They have offered lower lease payments but will not take care of high APS bills. Customer Service takes you around in circles and says it your problem. Not true.

I ended paying MORE. When this person was going over the contract it clearly stated I would be paying $250. Now I'm stuck with solar panels that save me -200 dollars each month.

After the solar is installed service is terrible. They will not send you a bill so you can see exactly how much you are paying for per unit. I’ve requested this many times. If you do not give them access you your bank so that they can directly debit your account they will penalize you $7.50 a month. They will claim this is a discount but it’s not attached to any pay rate and is a way for them to collect free money for doing nothing. Blackmail for not using direct Debit. One should never give them free access. You just may get a big surprise!

A star is too high of a rating!!!! I have had Sunrun solar on our roof since 2016. When everything is working, it's great. However, if something malfunctions, expect no resolution and to continue to pay for service you are not getting. The system has actually underperformed making Sunrun give us a credit which didn't equate to the money we lost.
Our system malfunctioned in November of 2019 and it's now on the brink of Oct 2020 and we cannot seem to get the system resolved. I have called, been on hold for countless hours, spoken to just a handful of reps that can't help me, submitted tickets through their website - all to be ignored. After I notified them I would stop paying their bill, they finally had an outsourced team come out and that was in August 2020. It's still not fixed as the team that does the work is also waiting to hear from Sunrun. So basically do your research and find a solar company that has good reviews because I would never recommend this nightmare to anyone. I would love for Sunrun to see this and have someone contact me who can actually get something done. The hours I've spent on this is ridiculous and they should be ashamed of their lack of customer service.

We have paid over $20000 to avoid such bills and we were very surprised when we received the power bill for the Aug, 2020. I called Sunrun to inform them about the power bill but unfortunately calling Sunrun is a nightmare. They kept in waiting line for over 2 hours and then a customer care expert told us that this is not related to them but to their sales agent in Los Angeles. I called the sales regional manager in Los Angeles office and after 5 days and many time talking and sending them text, he wanted us to call sunrun headquarter again!! I believe in that these guys in sunrun are wasting time and money of customers. Please do not buy sunrun solar system, you will waste your money if you do. Thanks.

Therefore, pay $250 waiver fee or 2 month invoice upfront. We called Experian who verified the account was in good standing with no hold. 2) transferring the title from sellers to us, buyers - Two weeks past the scheduled escrow closing date, Sunrun has yet provided the notarized release, despite numerous attempt by sellers and title company. We are still waiting for somebody at Sunrun HQ in SF to provide us this document. 3) judging from other reviewers, these issues seem part of their standard operating procedures. So let me tell you about Sunrun. They are great when they're trying to get your money, but once you have a problem they pretty much disappear and neglect you. I signed up through Costco. The guy that came was great. He was very knowledgeable. I was sold. One of the things he sold me was a battery which they call a BrightBox. This BrightBox cost me $5,000 and some dollars. For a year and a half I was happy with the equipment and I was telling my friends and family about Sunrun.
Well that was before any problems started. Now, back in June, My BrightBox went out. I contacted the company. They said they would schedule someone to come out and take a look. OK. So a few weeks later a guy comes out and explains that LG makes the BrightBox and the fuse is blown but LG does not allow them to change a fuse. Instead he'll have to order a new BrightBox and install it in a couple of weeks. A couple of weeks turned into a month. Now, on August 25th a new guy comes out and since I am working from home I told him to go into the garage and do his thing.
I come out on my break to see the new battery, but there is no new battery. Same old battery. I call the guy to see what's going and you know what he tells me???? He says, "Oh, your fuse is blown. I have to order you a new battery." I say, "No! We know the fuse is blown. You're supposed to install a new battery." He says, "I'll check the work order." Does he ever call back? NO!
I call Sunrun, and an hour later an agent takes my info and says someone will call me back within two days. I send customer service an email. To be honest a very upset email. Did anyone ever call me back? NO!!! Did anyone ever email me? NO!!! In short I have a piece of worthless aluminum hanging on my garage wall which I paid $5,000 and some dollars for. Sunrun doesn't care that I've been without it for TWO MONTHS now. If you're interested in solar that's great, but I would not recommend Sunrun as your company.

After I became a customer and I was ready to vinyl side my house, I called Sunrun and they said they charge $500 dollars to remove their components. Had they told me that up front I would have been prepared, but Sunrun should never lie to their customers, but they will if they can make a buck. I hate liars. I absolutely regret signing a contract with Sunrun. My rooftop solar system shuts itself off every time it rains or snows, requiring a restart process each time. Sunrun never notifies me that my system is down, so if I don't check it in person or visit the website to monitor my output, I would never know. Or, better yet, it just completely turns itself off, which requires a technician to service it, which generally takes more than a month to schedule. Seriously.
Sunrun can get away with this because of the language in your contract, which capitalizes on high generating summer months. But you end up paying your entire electric bill most of the year, on top of Sunrun's bill. If you thought you would save money while reducing your carbon footprint, like I did, you're in for an unpleasant surprise. So, to sum up, I pay almost double and rarely contribute energy to the grid, and have the pleasure of dealing with a company that doesn't care because they get their money either way. I don't know if other solar companies are better, but steer clear of this one.

SUNRUN SOLAR PANELS is the most disrespectful, distrustful, unprofessional, and sneaky business I have ever dealt with. They are unethical schemers. On December 2018 I got the panels install at my house, on April 2019 I got so many pigeons that it was raining poop on my back yard. The kids were getting sick, even the dog got sick. I called SUNRUN to see what could be done they said the have an independent contractor that do the fencing around the panels. I called them to have an estimate they said that they could past by the house and then email me and estimate but that never happened. I called a couple more times LVM nobody got back to me.
Finally a different company did the work on May 2019. January 2020 a heard a very loud beeping on the side of the house when I check a yellow light was blinking and only 16 panels were working, the inverter was making the sound. I called SUNRUN an informed them of what was going on, they send a technician a month later that look at the inverter and said the problem were the panels and that someone else need to come.
On March 2020 a team of workers came a said the problem was on the solar panels connectors on one side, they replace the connector and when been tested the other side gave up so they decided to replace the entire branch with includes 15 solar panels. I asked them to check the other side that has 16 panels they said everything was fine on the other side. I also asked them why this happens and they said it could have been a faulty part. I also ask them if the fencing around the panels was still good and they said they accommodated as much as they could.
A month later April 2020 the panels stopped working again, same thing on May 2020 a technician came and said one of the panels has a hot spot and need it to be replace. I thought another month because everything with them is on intervals of 1 month but they came back 2 hours later with a panel and replace it. That panel lasted a week. I reported again someone came on June 2020 and said that there was a hold on the panel and that it need it to be replace.
I called SUNRUN every Monday of every week for the past two months and it’s like talking to a bad insurance company, they are rude, they are it isn’t their fault is the person that installed the fencing. I already explained them it has been more than a year that it was installed and SUNRUN people’s TITAN SOLAR PEOPLE have been the ones moving the fencing around for the past 6-7 months. They said it doesn’t matter that it’s a violation of the warranty so now we are responsible for the cost and so on so on. When I sign the contract my first question was if it breaks what happens and they warranty me that they were responsible for repairs. SURPRISE it’s just on the even of natural disaster apparently. Customer service doesn’t exists with them they are rude, careless, hung up on you are said they can’t heard you and hung up but don’t call back. My ADVICE don’t do business with them, save yourself a headache.

Some of the Maximizers would fail almost every year, Prompt service was very good. But the system has a weak link, either connections would fail or the Maximizers would not talk to the network. Last year half of the system failed and I didn't know about it except when I got the true up bill, almost $1600.00. Called the power company, no help, Called Sunrun, they sent out a tech to analyze the system. Found some connectivity problems again, found some of the Maximizers were not working, Sunrun ordered parts. Finally 2 weeks later the system was repaired, I have 1 year left on my warranty, can hardly wait to pay for service calls, Would like a more reliable system on my roof. 2 1/2 stars rating.

Experian decreased my FICO score as a result of the credit check the salesman ran. (Turns out I wasn't the first person to experience this.) When I told him about it he said it wasn't supposed to happen. The best he could do was ask the credit dept to address the problem. They told him I'd have to wait 6-8 weeks. I emailed the credit dept, demanding the problem be corrected immediately; "Kaliesha" replied asking me for a screenshot of Experian's report. Even though I'd never done a screenshot before & had no desire to, I learned how & sent the image Experian provided me. Credit dept then told me it wasn't enough info. Experian hadn't given me any details beyond what I already sent, so I asked Kaliesha to have the sales rep get it--by that point I'd worked much harder than I should've had to.
Almost 2 weeks went by with no contact from anyone, so I asked Kaliesha for an update. She then told me I had to be one to provide the detailed report from Experian. I couldn't for the life of me believe my eyes--here I was reading a key piece of information I could've been given 2 weeks before, and the only reason I was reading it now was because I reached out for an update. Naturally I asked Kaliesha why I never heard back from her. Now ANOTHER 2 weeks has gone by with no response from her.

We had been shopping around and we liked the deal that we were able to arrange with Sunrun. We like that we produce our own energy. I just wish that we have the opportunity to install the battery system so that if the power goes down, we won't have our power go down. Since we're generating power, it's tied to the grid, but it doesn't go through a battery first and I regret that. At the time that we signed up, it was not an option. I didn't know if they actually discouraged it, but I knew since then, the pricing on those types of systems had become much more affordable, so I wish that they offered a retrofit to that. Overall, we've been pretty satisfied.

Two years ago I had a $1,000 electric bill in August. It was a really hot month. I had been thinking about going solar for a long time and that was finally the last straw that broke the camel's back. I looked at a lot of different companies. I went to Costco and Sunrun was one of their vendors. We trusted Costco with a lot of things, so I thought that if I'd have any kind of issue, I could always fall back on Costco. It was pretty pleasant to deal with them. The guy came out and surveyed the house. Then about three weeks later, they came out and did the installation. They were done in one day so it was pretty painless. They put a battery in and they have this software monitoring that can be downloaded to keep an eye on the system. Also, Sunrun did the solar loan and they arranged it for me. It was so transparent.
Sunrun estimated the number of panels that they'd put up based on my usage. San Diego Gas & Electric is my utility provider and since I'm on net metering, they send me a little summary of my weekly use. I didn't get the solar system installed until October and then right away, we had a real rainy November and December. So, I didn't really get that much benefit out of it. I ended up paying about a $290 bill when I trued-up in November. Then this year, I started the same way so I just went ahead and paid the $200 bill. But right now, I am even and it looks like I'll probably actually get a little money back this year as opposed to a $1,000 electric bill in August. I've been very happy about that.

Sunrun's installers came and did their job. When they put the equipment up on my bedroom's roof, my sheetrock started to fall. But they told me that was not something that they caused - that the sheetrock on my bedroom was loose. I didn't know what to do about it, but they brushed me off so I wasn't very happy about that. It wasn't like that before they put the solar on there, but it's still there and it hasn't moved. It's not getting worse, but it's not very good either. So, I would have to put a piece of wood up there to push the sheetrock and hold that up, screw it back in, and then retexture and repaint it. That's a lot of work. When you're 72 years old, that's not a fun job anymore. But other than that, I'm very satisfied. Going solar has been a good thing for me. It's not as cheap or inexpensive as I thought it would be, but it's there.
Between paying TEP and paying solar, I'm almost at the same level. But I know I would be at that level for quite a while. I used to be about average with our regular TEP here. And at one time, I used to pay $85 a month. And then, every year, they redid your average. I was at the point where I paid $235 average a month. I'm now paying $154 plus the TEP, so I'm almost at $200. It's not that big a difference, but at least I know I wouldn't be hit all of a sudden with $350 or $400 payments.

Sunrun's enrollment process was really easy. The problem in the beginning was the system wasn't connected and it wasn't coordinated correctly with my electric company. So, my bill was higher than I thought it would be. We remodeled the house and bought it, and then it was under construction for a year. Sunrun did not put enough panels on initially because when we bought the house a year prior, we haven't lived in here, so they didn't have a true bill of ours to go off of. They installed panels based on prior bills. So, about 80% of my bills are covered. Now, it's much lower.

I went solar for the cost savings and Sunrun seems to be working fine. The sales rep was good and the installation was pretty painless. There was no interruption in my service. However, the price goes up a little bit more often than annual. It could reach a point where it doesn't make sense anymore but right now, it still does. Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to just buy outright.

Sunrun worked out good. They did what they were supposed to do and have done a good job of installation. I did not need to make any payments to them initially but every year, it goes up by 2%. Last year was $41. So, now, it is $43. It's a 20-year lease, so after 20 years, I can buy the system for whatever the price at the time.
However, a new panel has to be approved by them. Also, initially, they had given me a 20-year warranty on the roof and 20 years on the sun panels then they said they'd give me 20 years on the solar panels but only 10 years on the roof. Once you put this thing on top, there are holes that will be created. But I think I won't have a problem because I went up one time to see and everything looks very professional.
Their customer service is somewhat okay. Sometimes, it takes them longer to get things done and sometimes they don't do what they say. They told me that if I give them new customers, they'll give $350 to me and $350 to the new customer. I gave them couple of names. They both got Sunrun, but Sunrun did not give any money to me or them. Also, the sales staff talk a little bit more than what they can deliver and they keep on changing. They have 100 emails with me. Who has got the time to read all that? Also, the documents are so complicated. If they are somewhat easier, then it will be a lot better.
Everybody should get a solar panel so we are cutting down the carbon footprint. We use green power. That's the best way to do it. In my subdivision, there are several people who are thinking about getting it. They talked to me and asked, "Are you happy? It's a year now." I told them I'm happy. My bill has gone down substantially. Last month, it was only $7. In January when there was not much sun, it was $64. That is a difference.

I was a purchaser many years ago. I went out for at least 3 bids. They all varied with what they were gonna do, and I picked Sunrun ‘cause I was happy that the guy wasn't overselling me. He was real knowledgeable and nice. I also liked the fact that the rates were locked in. After I did that, everybody’s saying they’re gonna raise the rates of electricity again. I'm happy with everything except for the installation. I'm unhappy with the roofing guys from Nevada or California that Sunrun sent out here. I wouldn't hire them to do a dog house. These dudes apparently never walked on a tile roof before and they destroyed my roof. They tried to patch it. I took photos of that roof before they got on it and I also took photos of what they did. I called them up and said, “That's not gonna cut it. You guys didn't even put the right tile on the roof to fix it." They came back out and didn't do anything. I could tell from the photos I was taking.
I'm in Arizona and we got concrete tiles on the roof. They gotta match. There are thousands of different designs and these guys didn't even try to match it. One time, I didn't know they were coming and they not only destroyed the back roof, they walked up the front of the roof and cracked those tiles. These guys don't know what they're doing walking on this roof, or they didn't care.
When I called customer service, they wanted me to tell them what kind of tile was on the roof. I said, “You guys broke it. You go figure it out. I didn't put the roof on this house.” They sent out their expert troubleshooter guy that comes out to fix their messes. He was so overwhelmed. He said, “I'm gonna tell you the truth. I can't do this. We're gonna have to go hire a professional roofing company to come fix this mess.” They did finally do that. The guy came out and said they got the wrong tiles on the roof. He came back out with a crew. They picked everything up and put it back down again where these guys busted all these tiles up.
Other than that, I like the way it works. If I had to do it again, I’d put solar on because it does work really well. I'm at home, and I don't have the house at 72. I keep it on 77 during the day. It's comfortable while I'm sitting on the desk. I've been here since March and I continue to get a credit. So that's pretty cool. I like the readings that it gives me on the computer. I haven't had any service problems since it was installed.

Sunrun approached me at Costco. I asked them a few questions and we did an appointment for the sales rep to stop by. Sunrun is pretty good. When I was fairly new with them, I called one time because I was making a lump sum payment and their customer service was great. I'm very happy with everything. Now, I'm only paying $11 a month on my electricity bill.

I told him I wanted to see on paper, instead of, 'he said, she said'. He was reluctant to send the details in writing in terms of the contract. Instead of satisfying the client, he was so rude to hang up the phone abruptly, When I requested to view the contract. He wanted me to agree verbally for what the story was giving. I was interested in the benefits of solar and reviewed a few solar companies and chose Sunrun. They offered a package in terms of its rates and what they would do to my roof. They turned out to be a better package and opportunity than the other providers. The installation process was fine. They did things as they projected. They did it on a timely manner. The system has met my expectations in terms of its efficiencies and it seems to be working as advertised.
There was a leak on my roof that occurred during the rainy season. The company came out, inspected it, and agreed that they would repair and replace. This was about three months ago at the height of the pandemic and unfortunately, there's been a little response to resolving my outstanding issue. But it has more to do with the roofers that did the roofing job and Sunrun subcontracts that out to Independent Roofing.

I liked Sunrun because there wasn't a large out-of-pocket expense and they don't put anything against your house. They have excellent customer service. The lady that came out to introduce me to their solar company was very good at answering all questions. She was very thorough. Even afterwards, I had a question and I was able to call her and get that question answered. The folks that installed the actual product came out and installed it. There were some issues with my electrical and they helped me assess it. It was my issue so I had to fix that, which was no problem but they helped me address the problem and it was taken care of. It was pretty good. I'm seeing a difference on my bill. I have recommended someone to get Sunrun and they actually did and they loved it.

Sunrun maintains leased solar power systems. Not, my problem goes back to the end of March, my inverter has been shutting off with an Arc-fault error. Though it shows an error it if reset the system continues a brief time before it shuts down again. Sunrun sent a technician to repair system. The technician did nothing but report that the system was up and running. The technician had come at a time outside my scheduled appointment and did not announce his presence. He had come at a time that the system was running.
Later that same day the system tripped again. I called Sunrun and asked why the technician had not come for the appointment. The Sunrun operator stated that there was a technician at my house but he showed up a couple of days earlier. I told the operator that the system had tripped again, the operator stated that the inverter would probably have to be changed and an appointment would have to set to come and replace it.
After a couple of weeks I again called Sunrun in reference to my appointment, the operator stated that they were still waiting for a new inverter and they would call once one was received. After another month I called inquiring as the progress of the inverter, at that time I was told that due to covid they would not send anyone out until the lock down was lifted.
My city was entering phase 1 of reopening, and again I called Sunrun. This time they said that they were not sending anyone to repair my system because it was up and running. I told them reason the system was up and running was because I was constantly watching the inverter and resetting it after it shut off. I waited a couple of days until the inverter tripped again and called Sunrun. This time they stated that someone would get back to me to set up an appointment.
After about a week I again called Sunrun and had a appointment set for 8 days in the future. At the time of the setting of the appointment I told the operator that I wanted the technician to call me when he/she were coming and that I did not want them to just reset the system which I had been doing all along. The appointment was set for 8 days between 12PM and 5PM. The system had been down for over a week at this time with no production.
Day of the appointment 12PM - 5PM had come and gone at 5:01PM, my system was still showing the error message. I attempted to contact Sunrun but had to wait for them to call me back. When Sunrun called me back they stated that the technician was at my residence and had repaired my system. I told the operator that I had requested a call when the technician was on his way and that I had never received a call. At this time another appointment was set, this time two weeks in the future.
After the call to Sunrun I received a voice message on my cellphone from the technician that he had been at my residence. I tried calling him back but his voice mail was not setup. The next day looking at Sunrun's website the production records showed production from 9AM - 11AM, then nothing. The technician had come early and just reset the system, and after 3 hours the system went down again. Now I have wait two weeks now. Hopefully this time they'll do more than reset the system.

I was just not bowled away with the whole Tesla choice. It seemed overwrought to me. My daughter's a big environmentalist and was nagging me, so I thought, "Okay, why not?” Also, I like that with Costco, you got more of a warranty and the rebate, and I like Costco. The salesman that came to my house was really informative. He was pretty helpful. But I already made up my mind. He walked in and I told him I wouldn't do it unless there was battery backup, and there was. The installation was okay. I had a problem where it caused a leak in the roof and it was raining horribly when I found it. I called Sunrun and I had to get a little pissy about that, but they sent a painter out to repaint my kitchen that day and he was great. I'd use him again.
My only complaint is that when it was presented to me with the battery backup that I had to pick four circuits for it, I didn't pick the right ones because I wasn't aware of a couple things about how my house worked. For instance, I have a tankless water heater and it didn't occur to me to put that on as the backup. And now, I don't have hot water when there's a power outage. I talked to them but it can't be changed. That was pretty disappointing. Maybe I should have been given more time to think about it, or needed some more information. That's my biggest complaint. Also, at that time which was a year ago, the Tesla Powerwall wasn't an option. Now it is, and I'm also disappointed about that. But at the time when I did it, I thought that this would be enough capacity.
Also, I was asked at the time if I would ever add an electric car. At the time, I said no. And since then, I bought one, a Tesla, and I thought the system would be a little more nimble if I wanted to add more capacity, but apparently it's a bigger deal. I can't blame Sunrun for those because I didn't think it through well enough. But so far, I'm okay.

We were looking into going solar before. We've noticed that a lot of families said it's done big changes, neighbors, other places where we had lived before moving into the home. The Sunrun rep was really pushing it and saying that it would help us save a lot of money on our bills so we went with it. We didn't know how much the house would actually spend because we just moved into the house and we got the solars at the same time. We've had it for a year and a couple of months now. I was paying $98 on the solar and I was paying 150 on my light bill. So I was still paying more than what I would be saving. I also don't understand why it says that we sell $230 to APS, but I'm only saving $38 or $40 a month. That makes no sense to me.
My Realtor told me about Sunrun. He showed me bills where he wasn't paying anything in either of his houses because of the solars. He was paying around $20 and he had a credit of $100 there because of the solar. So I asked him about what was going on with the solar system and he said that it was probably because of the first year and then we would start to see the savings. But it had been a year and it didn't happen. The savings part was not where I was told it would be. I also never got the Visa cards that they said I was gonna get.

Sunrun had the best deal and was the most up-front. A lot of the other competitors either wanted to force us into a contract without looking at all the details or were really expensive and wouldn't be up-front with paperwork or documentation. Sunrun was really good about communication and gave us full copies of the contract and everything we needed. The changes they made were just common sense stuff. There was no bait and switch, which I've seen complaints of other companies on. So Sunrun was a really decent company. The installation was simple. Everything got done without any questions or any problems. It was about 2 days' worth of work, and they weren't even in our way.
It'd be kind of nice to have customer access to the portal that gives the live solar data but Sunrun has worked out fine. We've saved some money, but we've also increased our power usage quite a bit since it's so much cheaper now. I've enjoyed having them as service provider, though we're probably gonna buy them out in 5 years.

Hello Consumers: I would like to share my ongoing experience with SunRun solar company. I had solar installed at my residence 2 years ago. Couple of months ago I noticed that solar is not generating production and same time we kept our home on sale (April, 2020). I called Sunrun customer service to schedule an appointment. This is during COVID pandemic. 2.5 weeks later service guy visited and found that inverter needs to be replaced and I was told that in 2-3 weeks inverter will be replaced because they need to order, don't have any in stock. this happened in 2nd week of May.
As I mentioned earlier that our home is on sale, we got offer, pricing finalized, sale process started and planning to close escrow soon. unfortunate thing is I cannot close escrow because solar is not working. so I called Sunrun customer service in 1st week of June, they said they are still working, may be another 2-3 weeks. I explained them the urgency and I was bit frustrated.
On June 12th, I called customer service again and asked to escalate the issue further. one of their manager/case representative talked to me, said that he a good news, they got the inverter and someone from company called Sun Systems Technologies will call me in 2-3 days to schedule an appointment.Guess what today is 6/20, nothing happened.
I called customer service again on 6/18 to check on status as I did not received any call from Sun Systems Technologies, I was told to contact them directly instead of calling SunRun. So I did (its like we are at the mercy of Sunrun) called Sun Systems Technologies, they said they had a question for Sunrun about my service request and question was sent on 6/16 but they don't have reply yet to schedule an appointment. Again I called SunRun (same day) to find out the status, its like I am working for them. then I was told by SunRun that they talked to Sun Systems Technologies and I will receive call in 2 days. As I said before today is 6/20. nothing happened. I guess Sun Systems Technologies is closed today, I called them, no response. As expected it's been 40 mins now, I am still on call & waiting for someone to answer my call at SunRun customer service.
Now, I am worried that escrow closing will get further delayed and buyer will be frustrated as they have commitments to move from old house to new house and of course my blood pressure is high too because of this nonsense, pathetic customer service. Also I am contacting legal to get some advise to file a case, as my escrow closing is getting delayed and circumstances of delay are bad for me and for my buyer.
I never experienced such a pathetic customer service, SunRun is typical UPSELLING COMPANY. No service commitments. I am sure their management will learn more if they ever heard recorded calls. Here are the worst parts of this experience.
1. Whenever you call customer service you have to wait minimum 20-30 minutes if you're lucky you may need to wait more than 30 mins. Now we are going through COVID pandemic, its an excuse for them to say that customers needs to wait longer than waiting period.2. It's a $850 million dollar revenue company, cannot even carry sufficient inventory to service their customers. I guess they don't understand about customer service. they can only sell using tax credit technique.
3. No escalation management and of course no ownership.
4. Seriously worst customer service. Many times they don't know what they are talking about.
5. Though I explained the need of inverter replacement, no one seems to be understanding. I waited for almost 2 months and still waiting.
Here is my request(s).
1. Please don't buy solar installation from sunrun. They are purely an upselling company. If you ask for installation, within 24 hours someone will call you. If you ask for service, now you are on their mercy, you better be away from them.
2. I know that sunrun has a booth in some Costco stores. Don't fall in to sunrun trap when they explain you techniques, costco cards/discounts and tax credits (once I was victim of this trick). Tax credits, you can get from federal if you install solar from any registered solar company(nothing to do with sunrun). And for few hundreds dollars of costco cards/discounts its not worth, later you have to spend many hundreds of dollars visiting doctors because of high blood pressure and frustration.
Actually they deserve minus stars. Thanks for reading this review, hope my experience may help you to make decision to go with SunRun. I still need to wait to get inverter replaced before I close the escrow of home sale.
Good luck and best wishes.RK

Going solar was something I was contemplating. As far as energy is concerned, I was convinced it was a way for me to reduce my cost, granted it was done intelligently. And I thought that it would improve the value of my house on the market if I was selling it. But I was avoiding it because of the upfront costs that I couldn't afford. Then, when Sunrun contacted me, they convinced me to go with them because of the program that resolved the issue of the upfront money. I was very satisfied with the enrollment all the way. Communication was great and I was not pressured. And I was clearly explained what would happen, when it would happen, and what it would imply for me.
At the time it was installed, it was done well and quickly, that it corresponded to what I expected. They even fixed, free of charge, the roof on which the solar panels were going. Then, we had a trying experience that made it possible for me to appreciate their after-installation service much more. About two weeks after the installation was operational, the house got hit by a thunderstorm and it caused several damages to the house. I was lucky there was no fire, but we discovered that four out of the 14 panels had been burnt by the strike. They were the ones that noticed it because they constantly monitor my output to make sure the installation is working well which is something very unusual. They alerted me that I was not producing what was expected and they sent a crew who identified the issue, ordered new panels, and came later on to replace those panels. They were really, really beyond the call of duty.
Also, now that I have used my financial credit, I pay the connection fee to Vermont Electric, but I am not paying any kilowatts because I am manufacturing enough and I get a credit that can be used in bad months this winter. Financially speaking, it is a real benefit. And I noticed with such amusement that since I had my solar panel installed, two other houses in my neighborhood decided it was the right thing to do. It is kind of satisfying.

I understand it would cost money, but they are unwilling to do absolutely anything with a leased system. The only thing they will do is charge through the end of the lease, and charge me for all my equipment. Zero flexibility. I’ve gotten quotes from several local solar companies and they are all cheaper and more flexible.

I had been looking into solar for quite a while and I had a couple guys come over and give me a demonstration. When Sunrun came and knocked on my door, I liked the presenter. He wasn’t forceful nor was he trying to act like I didn’t know what I was talking about. He listened and I listened to him. His presentation was solid and I liked their product, so I went with him. Costco was also backing it, so that confirmed it for me. I was told the process was going to be a bit longer than it actually took, so I wouldn’t be too anxious for it. I’m a salesman, so we always say, “under promise, over produce,” and when the guy came in, he was in and out. He got it done and the process didn’t take long. It was very simple and they did a very clean job as well.
All in all, everything was a smooth process and it wasn’t a pressure situation. Everything worked according to clockwork. In the long term, it’s going to be a great benefit to me as far as the savings are concerned. From where I live, my energy bill is high in the summertime and I was able to see savings on my electricity bill. Plus, the energy is green.

I have had solar panels on our house now for 1 year and 4 months and the Inverter broke down twice already within 4 months apart. We had a power surge and the system was not able to reboot itself so now SunRun has to come out, who knows when, and replace the inverter. In the meantime, living in Arizona where the temperature has been over 100 degrees every day, it means paying higher electric bill.
My husband and I are both on SS and have a restrictive budget. The reason we went solar was to save money. Sun Run is no help when it comes to paying their bill. You don't pay and they simply cut out your service. It seems that they don't keep much of an inventory of products that they know breaks down. Now depending if they have the product in stock it will be 2 weeks before they can come out to replace the inverter. If they don't have the part, then we are looking at 4 to 6 weeks before repairs.
Now tell me, how can a company stay in business with constant breakdown of the inverter and they are aware of this problem. Their license for installing and servicing customers should be revoked! We the consumers are paying twice for this so called "save money by investing in solar for your house!" I wished I had known about this before I signed on the dotted line. If the unit breaks down from a simple surge then in my opinion, it's junk. I am mad as hell!!!

I had to call twice to find out when someone was going to come out to fix it. Well the technician came out and did not fix it. I did a Google search of the error code and found out it is a hardware issue. I do not know why they did not just send the equipment needed to fix it. When the representative explained to us the pros of solar, he ignored to mention that we will be obligatory moved from from a tiered plan with SCE (which we had before) to the time of use plan. As my bill was never too high to start with (never went into the 3rd tier), that means I will now pay 1/3 more than I did before: I learned this from SCE agent over the phone. So, I ended paying Sunrun high cost to fix my roof (which I never saw, they sent me photos!) and gave my roof for 30 years for a company that will make me pay more for electricity.
When on the phone with the SCE she advised a different TOU plan than the one Sunrun put me on, which may be a little less worse (even that needed research). And she advised not to use the AC from 4-9 pm in the summer, something I never had to do before!!! In a nutshell, if you are on a tiered plan and don't pay much to begin with, don't get solar. NO ONE FROM THE SOLAR COMPANY WILL TELL YOU THAT.

But then once it was up and running, it seems to work as advertised.
When I generated enough power, my bill is like $13 a month, but then it ran out in January, so my bill is a little bit bigger for three and a half months. I happened to go to Costco and Sunrun had a booth there. A couple of my friends got their solars put in through the company and I trusted my friends' judgment. They had done the analysis and they thought Sunrun was good so I went with them as well. The salesperson was good and he was patient. He came a couple of times and answered all the questions. But after the implementation, what he said was a lot different from what was happening. I wasn't too pleased with the team that came to look at the system. The last team came in probably four weeks ago and they fixed a problem under 45 minutes. But for the same problem, the previous teams said, “Can't be done.” I have written Sunrun's customer service about my feedback. I have no idea what they do with the feedback and whether they work with the teams, train them, and talk to them. Right now, it's okay though.
Also, I am not too happy with Sunrun's website. It does not give me the information that I want. My son has a solar system from Tesla and he can control it from his phone and from his laptop. I can't do that and it frustrates me. I do not know what the system saves. It does not give me the data the way I want it and I have no idea how much is going to the grid. They tell me PG&E will tell me that. The bill comes from PG&E and I get that. But who will send that to me? I don't have it. If Sunrun gives me the information on saying this is what I generated and this is what they sent out so, this is what I should expect, then that's fine. But Sunrun doesn't give it to me. I haven't gotten the final bill from PG&E. It was supposed to come in May. I'm still waiting to be pleasantly surprised or pleasantly shocked when I see the rollup because I have no idea. I can't say for sure if I would recommend people going with Sunrun. But I'll give them benefit of doubt.

Why would I do business if I don’t even feel that I have some value upfront. Your sales person pushed me away.

Sunrun explained the package as buying the equipment over 20 years. Monthly payments based on solar energy production. Package was a power purchase agreement where Sunrun owns and maintains the equipment and after 20 years the contact starts over again. The price per kilowatt of solar energy produced increases each year; at the end of the contact it was over 50 cents per kilowatt produced. The contact benefits Sunrun in all ways and does little to benefit the homeowner. Sunrun receives the rebates, not the homeowner. The homeowner is charged for solar energy produced by the panels whether it is used by the homeowner or not.

They do not credit your account until YOU send them the paperwork for selling your house. They don't prorate it to the new owners like any other utility, they do it when they receive the paperwork. Also, they continued to charge me 14 days after I sent my paperwork. Sold my house 12 March. Charged for the month of March on 28 March. Sent my paperwork for the transfer 30 March. Charged me again for 1 month + 2 days on 14 April. Even though they charge in arrears, they still charged me and my transfer coordinator and even the e-mail I sent to the CEO is ignored. My solar system has been installed a year ago, due to technical errors made by installers, the system has not produced electricity for a year. From May last year to the end of November, I was ignored by Sunrun, despite the calls no one responded to the situation. In November they wanted to connect the system correctly, which I did not agree to. Because of the coming winter.
They called me in February and let me know that they would like to send me a technician to connect the system. I currently expect from Sunrun compensation for my losses related to losses caused by their unreliable approach to business (no electricity production throughout the year) and moral attitudes related to the stress they have given me because of their lack of competence. Three weeks ago, I sent an email in response to their suggestions on how to solve this problem. I haven't received an answer yet. I advise potential clients to think twice before entering into business with Sunrun.

This is my first review ever, which indicates my level of dissatisfaction with this company. We explained our electrical needs to the representative, which included adding an air conditioner, EV, and increasing sq-footage of house. The representative created a design that was way undersized, and installed an electric panel for additional $2K+ cost that was 100amps - which absolutely did not fit our needs.
We requested an electric panel upgrade by same electrician to 200 amps, and cost-sharing since we would have to start from scratch otherwise. They said they will try to fix, and kept stringing us along for months till we paid off the entirety of bill. After that, they left phone message that they could not do anything. This was extremely frustrating since they had no intention to fix the problem, but kept us waiting. And now, we need to install a new panel for $3-5K additional cost, having already paid $2K+ to Sunrun contracted electrician. Even the representative who sold us the system told us he has quit the company. I have never had such a poor experience with any company before. Especially, for such an expensive project.

The salesman was very nice but promised things that his company, Sunrun, did not uphold. We had Sunrun contract to replace our roof before the solar panels were installed. Sunrun said they would ensure the roofing company, out of Burlington, would do a good job. The salesman went on to say that the company is great cleaning up, making sure there was no nails remaining.
The first rain, our roof leaked! I called Sunrun and they sent a guy out to look at our roof and told us that it was an old issue. Our roof had not leak before they installed the new roof. In fact it rained days before the new roof was replaced. Sunrun refused to take ownership in the roofing companies errors. I had to hire someone to fix our roof. He found that the roofers stepped on (or some how bent) our metal roof (not replaced) and bending the metal, cause water to leak. The pictures clearly show the step marks and the bend, broken metal. Also, the man I hired to fix the roof found handfuls of nails on the roof. I would watch him walk and bend down and scoop up handfuls of nails. The roofer also found that they did not seal most of the attachments to my roof from the solar panels.
Sunrun never returned my phone calls or email after I told they that I had proof of their neglect! On top of the roof issues, I have pavement, approx. 1' out from my house, running the outside of my house to help protect my house foundation. They broke through the pavement for the wiring of the panels, understandable. NOT understandable, they left chucks of the pavement in my yard and never replaced the pavement. I asked they to fix that as well, never heard a word from them. This is not a company to do business with as they do not uphold their part and do not stand by their word or their work! Once there is a problem, you never hear from them again.

We signed up with Sunrun to purchase (not lease) a solar energy system. After going through the process of passing the engineering inspections, getting approvals, financing, etc., the contract was signed in July 2019 with install scheduled for October 2019. Then Sunrun bailed with no (initial) explanation. On installation day the crew arrived, but promptly left after two hours, claiming they were "missing parts." After waiting for word from Sunrun, we contacted them via phone and email, but never received word for weeks...until we received a generic CANCELLATION notice from Costco Services Dept., NOT Sunrun.
Our contract was signed, and we had paid in advance. Calls and emails went unanswered. Finally, a month later, we received a short email from our project coordinator stating that the complexity of our roof was the reason for disqualification. Evidently the install team failed to inform us (as well as the rest of Sunrun's corporate team, when our inquiries went unanswered.) Their company's concept and website initially seemed great, but the employees that were assigned to guide us were clueless and noncommunicative. We were shocked that Costco would use such an unprofessional company and we informed their corporate office of our very unfortunate exerience. Buyer beware.

I’m an Ambit consultant and we work hand in hand with Sunrun. It's a marriage of convenience. Ambit and Sunrun work together in a lot of states. Enrollment was very easy. Permits were handled by Sunrun so I had no necessity to go to any supplier or utility to ask for permits. I didn’t even have to go to the Village and ask for permits. But after I signed up, I actually put them off because the weather in January of last year was so horrendous. We had a couple of days that were minus 20. I called up and told the girl in the office not to send anyone to work on our roof in that weather. She said she was glad I was aware of that. I had worked outside for a lot of years. I know what it is to work in weather like that and if you’re on up high, you’re exposed to a lot of wind – not only the temperature. You have a lot of wind chill. I understood the people were not making any money but in the long run, they're better off.
My panels were installed on the 22nd of February last year and the system was actually activated the 26th of March. So it took approximately a month for Commonwealth Edison to get off their butt and approve the connection. From then on, it has worked great. I'm extremely satisfied. I go out and check how much I generate every couple days and just say, “Whoa, wow. Look at this.” Then I check my electric bill and see. There was actually a screw-up on my April bill last year but ComEd overcharged. They disregarded the fact that I had solar panels. They just charged me an electric bill but I got that back.
In my first year, summer was absolutely great. In December, I paid one and a half month’s electric bill. January was a two-month electric bill because we had a lot of cloudy weather and I have the Sunrun cost plus ComEd. So even though I have a lot of panels, they didn’t generate sufficiently through the cloud cover. But I expected that and my summer electric bills more than made up for it. I was between $16 and $18 a month, which is a connectivity fee with Commonwealth Edison. I can’t get away from that.
I was also there during the entire installation and I took pictures. There was a four-man crew and they were extremely efficient. They wasted no effort. There was a first crew that came in and sistered the joist inside the roof because Sunrun demanded that. Their engineering team wanted the additional support. But the four people that were on the roof were installing the plates that go between the shingles. They installed the standoffs to hold the panels up. One did the wiring and one did all the piping. It was a total one-day installation and they installed 26 panels on my roof plus the inverter. They also connected it to the box inside, through the meter standard. Everything was all very professionally done. They were quality people.
They did an extremely good and efficient installation, and it worked immediately. The Village had somebody come out and inspect it. He was going to fail it and I asked why. I happened to work for an electrical contractor at one time and I told him to look at it again. It was connected properly. The Sunrun rep was there too. The person from the Village asked me what I knew about it so I told him. Then he said I was right. Everything was connected exactly the way it was supposed to be.

I started the process with the company through COSTCO. Initial evaluation went well. Shortly after, I was told I was only partially approved for some panels and would have to pay $15,000 out of packet (to which I reluctantly agreed). Later, I was told I did not need the second contract. This, because now the trees were blocking too much sun. I was at the point of waiting for the permits...and today I am informed that they can no longer due the job. "You should try another company". THIS IS COMPLETE DISREGARD FROM MY TIME AS A BUSY PHYSICIAN. CONCLUSION: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

Their representative was very responsive all along and very patient with us because we took a while to decide. The installers were amazing. We have a super-high roof and I was a little bit nervous and shocked but they managed it easily. We’ve been producing solar energy for close to two years and I feel good about it. It has all been super easy and it's nice to know it's solar. The money I’ve been putting out is $20 less per month. I'm just leasing them but at the end, I could renew. I’ve told a lot of people about going solar. It was a no-brainer especially because of saving money and then, there were some promotions available as well. When we moved, our new electricity costs were ridiculously high although we hadn’t changed anything that should have made an impact. We literally moved from two minutes away so it wasn’t even like we had lived somewhere far away. So, when that happened, we started looking for other ways to save on our electricity. We did a couple of little short stints with third-party electric providers but trying to get them cancelled on time and everything was a hassle. We started thinking about solar and I saw that my friend had gone solar and she was saving money, so we decided to look into it. At that time, our sales rep was working with a different company and I just got a hold of the person that she recommended who happened to be working with Sunrun.
You're supposed to have one survey of your house, your roof and property, and the first person who came out looked at our house. We were having the panels put on the garage but they didn’t check it so they had to come back out. Then, the second person they sent was new and he messed up at every appointment he had been to that day and he didn’t do everything he was supposed to do. So, they had to send a third person out. I was a little disgruntled about having to have people constantly come back out because we have dogs and it was a hassle. But they gave us a gift card to make up for it, so that was helpful and it made me feel better. So, enrolling wit them wasn’t really hard. It was just the fact that it was only supposed to happen once and it happened three times. Finally, the third person that they sent out did a good job, checked everything and was thorough.
We had a couple of things in our yard that we kinda had built in, like a playground for our kids and things, and where Sunrun wanted to run the lines, the second person who clearly didn’t know what he was talking about, told me that they would have to run it through there. I said that we couldn't tear that up and he said that he didn't know what I could do. So some of that was a little bit upsetting. We've already signed everything. It all worked out but if they were a little more careful of making sure people were either trained, that would be good. But other than that, it wasn’t bad.
We met with Sunrun mid-August and they installed them the first week of December. As of December 26th, the electric company had signed off on us turning them on and we started making electricity right away. This time last year, I would not have been sure if I had made the right choice. I recommend not to start the process where they're gonna turn on in winter because we were paying Sunrun and then we were also paying probably $100 to the electric company. Also, on January and February, it was gloomy and the sun was not really out. So, that caused me to panic a little because it was more than what we were paying with just electric. But now that we've had them through spring, summer and everything, we pay our fee of 117 for the equipment to Sunrun and then, we pay $16 a month to the electric company, which is actually a fee that they add on your bill. So, we're not paying them anything for actual electricity.
At first, when the installers came on installation day, they were gonna have to run it in some really cockeyed way that it was gonna look terrible on the side of our farmhouse. I ended up talking with the installation manager who was overseeing it that day and I told him that I didn’t want that run like that. He said he would think about it and he would see if he could work something else out. It took him 15 minutes and he figured out a way so it’s kinda hidden in the metal pipe through the attic that's not even in my way and it comes out the other side. It’s not ugly on my house. I ended up having to handle the situation and if I would have been a person who would do it however they want, I would have been unsatisfied with how it was installed on my house.
After they left, there was a spot where they put the box in the side of your house or garage. The wire comes down the side of the building and then they put almost like a cap over it, so it's protected and they put it in and then they moved it over a couple of inches. Where they had taken it off, there were little, tiny screw holes in the siding and you couldn’t really see them but then, throughout winter, they got brittle and it busted out a little part of our siding on our garage. I contacted them, and it took a month or so in order to get someone out here. But they made that right too.
You should make sure that going solar works for you. People should ask questions, specifically how they’re gonna run things through because our sales rep was nice and answered a lot of our questions but there were some things that he was kind of quick on. He said he would be here on installation day but then, he never was there on any of the surveys or the installation day because of some personal things going on, which I could understand. But on the other hand, I didn’t know what I was doing. So, it would have been nice if he would have been there.

We have an electric car and the main thing about what Sunrun was offering was all the electricity would be provided by our solar. It’s a little complicated process, but they explained it nicely. During daytime, we produce more and we put it back into the grid. In the evening, we take from the grid. When we’re at the time of usage, it’s gonna be a little bit less money. That’s how we have net positive. However, when they signed me up for the loan, they should have told me it was gonna be 8% initial charge. I found that out after I signed all the paperwork, and at that time, it was too late to back out. Also, if I have researched it, I probably wouldn’t go with the Sunrun because after that, a couple of my co-workers installed solar too. Looking at their facilities, their app is very accurate while Sunrun's app is not that accurate.

We decided to look around and we looked at a better economic deal in general and places that enabled us to buy the equipment ourselves with the low-cost loans from the state. It would’ve been a better deal if I was younger but in our situation, doing the lease made a lot of sense, which was what we did. Early on, I had a question or two that I needed to get an answer to. I didn’t understand what was going on but I had no serious problems. There was a lot of hold up during the installation because the rules changed just about the time we were about to set up. It didn’t affect us as much as it affected Sunrun and it was a lot of paperwork for them so it took longer than we expected but it was not their fault.

Since the installation of the equipment, the utility costs for me have gone significantly down. I have neighbors that I’ve talked with and they’ve talked with Sunrun. It would also be nice if we could convert it to have battery backup at some point and to know we have that in case of a power loss, rather than having a generator. I'd like to make sure what's available to us if we wanted to and what that cost would be. All in all, Sunrun got the system going on and they're good.

I've been procrastinating for years about having solar panels installed. I waited for the programs to get better. Then I saw the incentive package with a couple of thousand dollars worth of gift cards. It seemed to fit me and it was time. I ended up with a free roof. But if f I were younger, I would recommend buying as opposed to leasing. One would be far better off in the long run but seeing that I'm 67, it didn't make any sense to spend that kind of money so I didn't lease. Apart from that, Sunrun has been great. Anytime I had any questions or issues, I made one phone call and it would be either taken care of or the questions were answered. The installers did a great job too.

I read the reviews and ended up picking out Sunrun. The installers were very professional and efficient. They did well. Then initially, it looked like there will be a credit. Right now, it's become making payment again. The usage is very similar as before but they're not charging too much. They charge 10 to $20 range per month. Overall, everything went smoothly and I don't have any negative feelings about the service. In fact, I will get a second home and I'm thinking of installing Sunrun.

Everything was great with the installation and the communication. The young lady that we first talked made it sound too good to be true, and she took a topographical photo and she said we were good for the 23-panel installation with 99% efficiency. About a month and a half later, they sent a gentleman out for a site survey. He came out and he saw the trees. He said these trees are 30 feet taller than what the aerial photo had. When we started the process and signed the contract, he did not say anything about that there needed to be any kind of a modification to the 23 panels that we were promised that we signed the contract for. When we got the first bill from Met-Ed, we noticed that it was exceeding with the Sunrun bill that we originally paid Met-Ed before Sunrun ever came into existence.
At first, we were promised that the solar panels would provide 99% of our electricity. But in reality, they are only producing 60%. We went back and forth with phone calls and emails, and it turned out that they said the trees were too tall. They first took the aerial photos that they did have and then they sent somebody out here. They saw the trees. They claimed that nothing needed to be cut down. They would not pose a problem at all. And then they came back and they said something else. Meanwhile, the contract had been signed. They told us that in order to get 99%, they would have to install additional 10 panels. We told them we were okay with that and asked them if it can be done. They said it can be done, but then we have to go through the whole process all over again. There would be two boxes on the side of the house. Met-Ed is the company that we use for the remainder of our electricity so there would then be two bills from them and then two separate bills from Sunrun. We basically came to a stalemate.
We went back and forth and somebody said there was a modification done, which we knew nothing about. But doing the DocuSign, someone signed my wife's name to do a modification. So instead of 23 panels, it became 13 panels. No one called me about it. No one stopped by. When the four gentlemen put the panels on the roof, we asked where were the other panels and they told me that this was all they were told to bring. We said that was not right, and then they told us that they would have someone contact us.
When they brought 13 panels out instead of 23 panels, we tried to call the installation coordinator almost a dozen times, but we got nothing. There was no response via email or phone. She's a useless entity. We would love it for them to correct the whole problem. We had been telling people all about how wonderful they were to deal with. A couple of friends were amazed and interested but we went back and told every single one of them to not call them because they will screw them over.

I've been hearing about solar for a while and we got solar panels on our building at my job. I got Sunrun off the internet and the rep was nice. Enrolling with them was smooth and there was no headache. I didn’t have to go out of my way. The installers came and put it up. They explained and did everything. Right now, the bill is $110. It used to be about $80 so maybe we didn’t have enough sun for the panels to work properly. But I’ve been producing solar energy for a year now and it's nice to have to save you energy and money plus, it's maintenance-free, which is what I like about it. I don't have to worry about it so I don't have to babysit it and everything's good. I got a lot of friends who would like to have the solar panel too so Sunrun gotta learn how to do it on flat roofs. I got a lot of business for them.

The first several months were very rocky and there were a lot of hiccups. But once it started to go and work, it’s been great. We’ve been producing a lot of energy. We got our true-up bill and it was $400 from Edison. They didn't count the first few months because we weren’t producing anything for several months. That was when we had to go on Edison for a while and that was what was reflecting in those true-up bills.
I called Sunrun and they said they would look into it. Considering the circumstances of our rocky start and that we produced well below the guaranteed amount that we were supposed to be getting for that first year, they were going to somehow fix it so they would give me a credit. And that way, it would offset the $400 that I owe Edison. The rep said she would look in and by next Tuesday, they will know more about if the people that reviewed this would say it’s okay that they’re gonna take care of it this year or if I have to wait till next year. It would be really nice if they could somehow reimburse us.
Everything was officially turned on about February 19th last year, so we missed all those months of production, but we still had to pay our contractual monthly PPA agreement. So we were kind of in a poor spot at that point. Things were finally ironed out and it was through patience and consideration and really nice help from Sunrun. They were very nice. Every step of the way, they go, “Oh, so sorry. We’ll try to fix that.” But it was through no fault of anyone. It was something about the way that things were set up.
I picked Sunrun because I did the homework and I found out that they were one of the leading proponents of renewable energy and they had a pretty good record. We talked to Matthew and he was very nice. We sort of talked it over and came to an agreement that we would do the PPA. We are glad we did that despite all the problems along the way. But even from the get-go, the workers came out and said they were gonna put in 21 panels. But I told them that I was supposed to have 19 and a battery. So they had to go away and they didn't come back out again until weeks later. And then they finally got it all set up. I’m glad we are solar because it’s nice to know that we’re saving $75 a month.

I was trying to save some on electrical bill and looked into solar energy services. Sunrun was advertising in Costco so we thought Costco probably won't have someone that is not reliable to be part of their program. Enrolling with Sunrun was straightforward and the reps were helpful. The savings isn’t big but we do save some money. It’s gonna be a few years before we cover what we put in so we have to get our money back first.

I did a lot of research looking for what might be the best deal for us and my friends next door put solar in for themselves. I went over and looked at it to see what was going on and I liked what they had. I checked with a couple of other companies but I liked the program that Sunrun had. There was no money upfront, which was the reason I decided to go with them. They worked with my HOA and all I had to do was sign the contract and start paying monthly. The installers were very professional, friendly and there was no mess. They did it in a day just as they promised.
I would have Sunrun for one year in March and by then, I’ll see what the SDG&E says about what I owe them. Hopefully, it’s nothing. The last couple of bills have been all credit on my side. It was not much but some and I don’t care if it’s nothing that I have to pay them because having this on here has cut my electric bill by $70 a month. Sunrun has been working very well and I appreciate what they have done for us.

Based on looking on the web for the service, I thought Sunrun was a good fit. The installation was fine but their customer service is beyond terrible. As part of the solar panel installation, they had to create the electric panel as well, but they did not upgrade the panel to the right specification. As a result of it, the AC in the house is not working. I kept following up with Sunrun for a long, long time and they still did not upgrade the panel. So now, I’m looking at another delay on that because it is still not being done.

We liked the fact that with their program, you can lease the system and you didn't have to buy it. They sold different things for it. We seem very happy with it, but now, we’re having problems. We still cannot get online. Their new log in tells me to get a code but it takes forever for the code to get to me. When I get the code, it tells me that the code is not good. So it’s a vicious circle. I would do anything to be able to get online. I wanna see how we’re doing as far as amount of usage and it’s not happening.

We had been looking at getting solar energy service on and off for a couple of years and we finally decided to do it. We got Sunrun solar through Costco. Their sales guy was wonderful and very informative. He really knows a lot of information and was upfront and honest about a lot of things. He really stepped in and got me what was promised. Then the installation went really well when it finally got agreed upon.
The design of the system is perfect. It suits our home and it gives us the energy we need. But I did have a problem and I did my due diligence. We had no electricity over half the house. The washer, dryer, water heater, air conditioning, heater, and Wi-Fi were all out. Sunrun told me that I had to call an electrician to diagnose the problem to verify that it wasn’t the electrical in my house. He didn’t touch any of their equipment but he went through everything. The person on the phone couldn't understand the scope of the problem and how big it was. It couldn’t wait until they could get it checked out here 13 days. We have four adults in this house and two big dogs, and waiting two weeks for them wasn't gonna work.
The electrician talked to Sunrun on the phone. He went through the process that they were telling him to shut it off and turn it back on. Shutting the entire system down and going back on the grid didn’t fix the problem. I had already done that twice. He kept telling them that the problem was in their equipment. It was a long day on the phone with them. There are people that pick up the phone and they’re just going by a book. They’re not really listening to the scope of what is going on in your home. As the homeowner, I did my due diligence to identify the problem with the licensed electrician. If I didn’t know how to get ahold of the tech that came and helped me with my system when it was first set up directly, I would still be sitting here without electricity in my house. Basically, the solution was just locating the inverter switch where the only person that was supposed to go in was a certified technician to flip that switch back on. It was a matter of flipping a switch.
Sunrun is a good company, but they have some internal process things they need to work out and they need to train their internal employees better. In order to get a problem solved, you have to be the squeaky wheel and I’m not one to just sit back and wait for things. Plus, my situation was pretty big. I can’t run on a house without hot water or heat or air conditioning or a lot of things for two weeks because they can’t get a tech to me.
Sunrun is selling these big systems that cost a ton of money and they need to back it up with support. When you have a problem and you have to go through their customer service to get a tech to your house, that’s the downfall. They're supposed to get the right person to you. But they don’t know what they’re doing and they’re not listening to the problem. Their customer service people are not trained and not knowledgeable. If it wasn’t for the sales guy and the tech guy, I probably wouldn’t have been with Sunrun. Also, the equipment, the setup, and how it serves up in our home are wonderful.

My wife is a paralegal and she had me verify a lot of information with the sales side of it. We feel that there was a lot of misrepresentation that went on, and I have this documented from the emails that were sent to me. In trying to clear that up with the customer support, all I could get was, “Well, you should’ve read your contract. We’re not responsible.” To this point, my initial contact there did get back in touch with me and she said to give it a year and see how it goes. She added that sometimes you have some up and down months. She said that they constantly monitor the system to make sure that it’s producing what it should be producing. I told her that it was not. It was producing half of what it should be producing.
I recently got a call from them and they’re gonna come out and take a look at a battery problem. My last conversation with them, they told me that they are monitoring us all the time. But with my phone call to them yesterday, the last time my system produced was the 1st of the month, and it hasn’t produced since. In their frequently asked questions, it says that a lot of times, it appears that it’s not producing if we haven’t been updated yet. So their online app isn’t showing accurately. It hasn’t been updated. This is the second battery that’s having a problem. It’s gonna be a month out of service, but they feel that they’re not responsible.
We tried to be patient and we tried to understand the whole thing. We’re trying to learn. They keep saying that we have to change the way we use electricity. I told them that I was not talking about usage. I was talking about production. I asked them what was their system trying to produce? They kept telling me that they were not responsible for what it produced. We don’t understand that part.
A friend of mine recommended Sunrun to me because he had them do it. He was quite satisfied with it during that year. He was very satisfied with the installation, although American Electric did it instead of Sunrun because they got too busy. They sub it out and that’s not a problem. But during the second year, he showed lack of production. He called Sunrun about it and he got this big fat check to compensate for his lack of production. But the people that I’m talking to are telling me that they don’t do that. At the time that I was referred to them, they were the largest. So you would think they’re credible, but apparently, not credible enough. I’m quite upset over the whole thing.

We met a Sunrun sales representative in March of 2019. We were pleased with all the benefits of going solar. As both me and my wife are retired, we looked at this as a means to save on our limited income. During the process, the rep, Hunter ** promised that if we install a new system we would receive a thousand dollar sign up bonus. We went online in July 2019, and though I'm pleased so far with our solar system, we're very disappointed with the fact that no bonus ever was delivered. We have tried numerous times to contact service center as well as making calls to Infinity, which I was told from SunRun that they have to release approval of the bonus first.
What's upsetting is that we made a referral to our neighbors who are long time friends of ours to listen to what Hunter ** had to say about solar. In their case, they were required to put a new roof before they could receive the new panels. They were promised that SunRun would be paying half the cost of the roof, which until today they have not. All we're looking for is someone who will answer the phone when we call. Both us and our neighbors have text records of our agreement with Hunter **.

In early 2019, we contracted with Sunrun to have one of their arrays mounted on our roof, with the usual contractual agreement. Their salesman pretty much stated that, in addition to monthly power savings, we would get a refund from the power company after the annual "true up", when the additional power created by the system, over our usage, would be paid for (to us).
In point of fact, the system grossly under-performed, from the start. Sunrun knew it, we knew it. After a year, we owe the power company (San Diego Gas and Electric) an additional $516. To understand Sunrun's mistake, you need to know that our home has a two-story, western addition, which shades the lower roof for much of each day. We pointed this out to the company--before seeing the design for the array, after seeing the design, and when asked to fill out online surveys (on maybe two occasions).
Any of their staff that was involved in the installation could see this over-shadowing part of the house. After noon, they could see the large shadow it cast. But, as they explained to us, the array design team is located in Colorado. They use a satellite image to come up with a design. As depicted on the proposal they showed us, it is a direct satellite view, which doesn't reveal the height of the second story. It was copied early in the day, it appears, because the shadow had not yet formed.
As I say, despite our warnings about the array being in shadow, they assured us that things were fine. In fact, as stated above, we owe over $500 for just the first year. Sunrun's contract protects them pretty well. When I called them seeking remedy, they explained they weren't even constrained to worry about it until the two-year anniversary of the panel installation. That would be February of 2021. At that point, they would reimburse us for the "under-performance" of the array. By my calculation, they will be liable for only about half the money that we will have paid by that time, which will be over a thousand dollars.
The company could have done several things to avoid this outcome. Someone "on site" could have emphasized, in their report to the design team, the over-shadowing western extension of the roof. The team, itself, could have used one of any common apps to view our roofline from an angle, rather than from completely vertical. Anyone could have noted the concerns that we both voiced and wrote down on several occasions. This is not competent company performance. It reflects a desire to keep up a mad pace of installing arrays, without much attention to the particularities of each location.

Yes, they say they monitor "complete" output but as long as the system is within their parameters they never say anything. My point is, am I wrong for expecting all of the panels I paid for to work properly? Last time this happened I lost production on 1 panel for almost 18 months before I caught it and have no idea at this point how long this 2nd panel has been out but I do know that it is costing me money in lack of production. Last time, it was a challenge to get a repairman out here, expect the same again.
