The rep whom I spoke with online, Leonard, answered all my questions and was very responsive to me. I had some issues getting financing because I had a lien. Getting it off was a problem, so it kept getting delayed. There was also a little bit of an issue with the permits. There was one time where they were asking me to sign off, and it wasn't really 100% fixed. But once I brought it to their attention, they took care of it right away. So overall, I was very happy with Sunrun.

The enrollment part was good. The rep was helpful. He came by the house and looked at it. However, once we got the panels installed, it was a little tricky. Somebody said that the city needed to install something. I called the city and the city said Sunrun needed to do it. There was a little bit of a miscommunication through there. Calling Sunrun's customer service, it went through an answering service. I didn’t get follow-up or a lot of answers. I wanted to talk to the guy who was in charge of the whole process but he never got back. Instead, they sent me to service line and that didn't get anywhere. Finally, the guy ended up calling back to check on the system and I told him what was going on. Also, the app just tells me how much we produce every day. What would be advantageous is knowing what our usage is and what we're selling back to, not having to wait a whole month to look at our bill.

    Reviewed Jan. 26, 2022

Updated on 02/13/2022: I have another review, “Buyer Beware” that was posted last month. You can see SunRun contacted me about the review. That’s where it stopped. Yes, I did get an email from someone there. I responded. Then nothing. I have not gotten a reply in over a week of any sort. No “Got your email and working on it.”, “Sorry we can’t help.”, nothing. So this adds to my other review that their customer service is below a one star as well. Please don’t publicly post you want to help, then don’t. I have presented them with a way to resolve my issue but they have failed to even acknowledge my response. So I continue to warn people to read their contracts in full, ask questions and don’t sign blindly. Don’t wind up like me.

Original Review: If I could provide negative stars, I would. The reason why I would like to provide this review is to make this a “buyer beware”. Eight years ago when we purchased our home, we decided to be energy efficient and purchase a solar agreement with Vivint solar. The agreement consisted of the company placing solar panels on our roof to which we would pay a “reduced rate“ for our electricity versus our traditional electric company. Fast forward those seven years and I am now paying more per kilowatt hour to the solar company for the solar than I am to my traditional electric company. Using the values in which I am paid, if I did not have the solar panels on my roof, I would actually be saving money paying the entire energy utilization cost to my traditional electric company.

In addition, it was not clearly stated unless one understands legalese in the contracts that I am now, for all intents and purposes, a prisoner in my own home. As I do not plan on selling my home, I am bound to a 20 year contract with now SunRun who purchased Vivint, regardless of my happiness. There is no way for the contract to be terminated unless we sell the property or purchase the system outright for full price based upon current market value.

The reason I am a prisoner is that if I need to make a repair to my roof, I need to schedule the roof repair around sunrun‘s requirement of a 30 day advance notification, I have to pay sunrun to remove the panels and replace it as they are the only ones per contract that can touch the system and if the roof repair result in a change of my solar panel configurations, I would need to pay them another cost to reconfigure the system. All of these requirements are being imposed by an outside company that I originally had contracted to provide a service and has no financial or personal tie to the actual structure. I’m being told by a company that has no investment what I can and cannot do to my own home and has to be done within their specifications. Beware and read your contract closely before signing on the dotted line. I didn’t.

The sales rep got us the right setup. He was able to answer the questions we had and he acted like he cared. He said it would take us about eight years for it to pay for itself and after that, it's good to have. However, we've had nothing but trouble from the billing side of things. The crew finished putting it on in August, it took until October to get PG&E to hook up, and then about every six days, we get a different bill from PG&E. We couldn't see that there was any benefit from the solar because all they did was kept charging us more money. Once the equipment was hooked up, Sunrun was done with me. When I called to find out, they didn't really want to answer anything or tell me anything.

Also, part of the problem was because our son already has a system on the property in my name. The mortgage is in my name. Yet, between Sunrun and PG&E, what held them up to connect them for so long was they couldn't figure out that there were two different homes on the property, and so I didn't understand why that was so hard. Even though PG&E was already billing me, they knew I had service, but why the two of them couldn't talk together and figure out how to connect. I didn't understand why it wasn't a smoother transition. We had to pay the bills, but Sunrun gave us a credit for it.

We live in what they call a paired house and when I found Sunrun, they were perfectly willing to be careful not to get onto the other person's side of the roof but installed the panels. Everyone was really nice. My biggest complaint was that it seemed like everybody wasn't on the same page. I kept getting conflicting information and I couldn't easily get some answers to my question. My house faces east and west and everything I had read is that the panels should either be on the south or the west. The first design came back with all the panels put on the east slope of our roof on the house. There were three or four different people that I got in a discussion about it and everybody said they would move the panels and put them on the west side. But I was never quite sure if there was a reason that they were originally put on the east side or not.

Also, there were some issues with the contract. I had questions and it was like they weren't really important to the people I was asking. It took a while to get adequate answers. Everybody in the system -- in the line between the original salesperson to the engineers to the installers -- often had different answers about what I was asking.

I am pleased with the final result, though, and the product is working very well. Based on the reports I'm getting, it seems like we are using less carbon energy and our electric bills are lower. It's snowing like crazy so we're not making a lot of electricity and I haven't seen the amount we can make in the summertime yet, but I suspect it'll be substantial.

My first experience with Sunrun in Nevada was excellent and the installation was fine. It can't be more punctual than that. For that kind of efficiency, I referred several other of my friends to do the same. But I'm having a terrible experience with the second one. They were nonresponsive, had no proposed date, and had an indefinite completion date. They also left a construction site open for nearly a month and a half. The California branch of the Sunrun is making a mess. It has been disaster right after disaster right after disaster and administrative errors and paperwork errors. For the installation, they wouldn't even call back. It's more like abandonment.

We were hoping to be able to decrease our electric cost as well as to have a backup source of energy. We live in a very rural area. So, we were hoping to have something that we weren't so dependent on the outside power sources since we tend to have a lot of power outages. My sister recommended Sunrun. She was pleased at the time that they did her home. So, we did it based on a recommendation. The process started out okay, but it got really messy in the middle. We ended up starting the process a couple of times with them because of paperwork or documents. We were due to originally get scheduled last spring, and it didn't happen until late summer. Initially, we didn't hear from anybody. So, I was doing a lot of calling back and forth.

Then we had thought that we were getting two batteries. Our house is on a septic system. Once the installation team came out and they were working on it, we realized that there was no second battery that our septic system was not going to be on a generator backup, which led to a lot of discussions with Sunrun. Still, it's kind of in limbo as to whether or not we're going to get the second battery. So right now, I'm not very happy with the process and what we're having to try and get done because now it may cost us more because we may have to look at a second option for a generator so that our septic system and water well work if we have a power outage. The whole reason for going solar was to eliminate those things.

I signed my agreement at the end of March and the installation didn't take place until six months later. I didn’t even get the final approval from Maui Electric to connect to the system until about a week ago. Installation was crappy from the subcontractor. But Sunrun came back and fixed it all up. From beginning to end, they did a good job as far as following up, answering my questions, and taking care of my needs. The solar panels are working nicely and accommodating all my needs. Also, I'm paying the minimum to the utility company. There's just one final thing that they have to do, and that is to repair the roof from the subcontractor. That's in the process right now.

The installers were very okay. But they didn't clean up behind themselves like they could have because I still had to do some cleaning up around my yard when they moved things to get up on the roof. But I just chalked it up. Everything went well. They came and worked and did what they had to do. However, when my insurance company said nothing was wrong with my roof after inspection, Sunrun wanted me to have them inspected. I had to come out of my pocket and pay $2,400 for putting the shingles up before those solar panels could be put up. Since I did that, I talked to the guy named Ian. He's the one I talked to about the little stuff and the inspection. He told me, "Since you're paying it out of your pocket, when the process is completed, I can recommend a gift card for you." Which I did get the $500 gift card after it was completed.

Now, when they put these things up on my roof, some wires were loose and coming out. When I called them, they said it wasn't coming from the panels. But, I've experienced over the last two weeks before we got the snow, the panels are not secured up there. I live in Chicago, we had a heavy gust of wind one night, and I heard a large roar and it was happening every 10 minutes before I associated it with the wind up here. My husband and I went out here to our bedroom window, because we were awakened at 2:00 in the morning. Maybe it was a car stranded. Who is this out here making all this noise at 2:00 in the morning? It wasn't a car parked on our block. We were looking and then all of a sudden the wind gust came again and we heard it. It was right over our head. It was coming from our roof.

I immediately emailed Sunrun at 2:00 in the morning and let them know. Then I called the guy who signed me up the next day, I still had his phone number. I let Anthony know what was going on. He gave me a phone number to call. So I called that number. They set me up with an appointment. And this appointment I know was last Tuesday, way before the snow came. They gave me about five or six-day wait before they gave me the Tuesday appointment.

I know the snow is up here so I'm not insensitive to know that maybe they weren't going to come out or they couldn't do their work because of the snow on the roof. But nobody called me from Sunrun to reschedule and to say, "We got your message. We will be out as soon as the weather breaks." Nobody emailed me and nobody telephoned me to find out what was going on with my roof. And I didn't like that. I'm not happy and pleased at all because of the lack of follow-through with Sunrun.

We basically traded one electric bill for a solar system payment, but at least it seems like it's a better way to go. In the next year or two, we'll be replacing our furnace. It's getting hotter here in Southern California and we're in an older house. We did have the insulation redone in the attic, but seeing that last summer, the air was running a lot and we were using a lot of power, we looked for what we can do to offset some of this. Once we started looking into Sunrun and what they had to offer, we never really took a hard look at anybody else because leasing was really the only way for us to go. Their lease seemed to be the best workable thing for us.

The installation crew was awesome. We did have one issue where we never heard from the project coordinator that was assigned to us again once we got the email from her saying, "I'm your project coordinator." I even emailed her a couple of times and never heard back. So, I emailed the sales manager and our salesperson. By the next day, we had a new project coordinator who was very reachable and communicated very well. We'll see more benefits in the coming late spring and summer but so far, we have seen a bit of benefit since switching to solar. We've gotten some days where we've generated more power than we've used, which is always good.

It was pretty smooth. They got it all up and installed within a day. It was a good experience overall. But their app leaves a lot to be desired. Sunrun can use some support on the tech side, being able to do more with the app, because I can't do much beyond seeing the prior day on it. I talked to my project coordinator when I got my first bill, and we walked through the app. So I understand the functionality of it. But it isn't user friendly.

In about the first two months of having the system, it took a little bit for our bill to drop down. But this last bill, we're seeing a little bit of a decrease now. So I'm being mindful that it's been pretty cloudy and it’s wintertime, so we're not getting peak performance right now. But I'm definitely seeing production. I could see the battery is charged and when we had a brownout, I was able to use off my battery. I was told my roof needed to be repaired. Okay. No problem. I live in an older house and was expecting that. So, this woman, Jen, emails me to tell me she will be my contact from now on. Great. No problem. Two weeks ago, their roofing contractor texts me to see if January 13th and 14th will work for me. I won't have to be home. Great again. I can work in my office. I was driving to work on the 13th and the roofer calls me to tell me that they are just going to toss my satellite dishes since he assumes they're old. Ummmm. NO! I have satellite TV and internet (even though I do have to switch to a faster service for internet soon).

I get home in the 13th and my trash cans and recycling container and other heavy things that belong to them are sitting IN my garden. I get home on the 14th and they're still not done and I find a food container with food and open sauce on the top step of my front porch, plastic water bottles EVERYWHERE in my front yard, coffee cups in my driveway, a pizza box sitting in my yard. Just a general mess. I email Jen. Her response? "Sorry for the inconvenience ".

I get home on the 14th and they're STILL not finished. I have no TV or internet and it's the weekend. The forecast was rain from Sunday through Monday. I guess I'm going back to the office Monday because they won't be working in the rain and predicted strong winds later in the day. Monday morning at 2:00am, I am awakened by what I thought was my cats getting into something. I finally realize what I hear is water dripping. I now have a shower in my living room and kitchen.

I run around to get buckets and a tarp to put over my antique desk that is now wet. I email Jen at 2:30am (because I'm not an inconsiderate jerk to call at that hour) and told her what was happening and she should expect a call from me first thing in the morning. I called her at 8:30am and left her a message. No response. I called her again at 9:30am. No response. I decide to text my sales rep. He did respond and called me as soon as he could. I sent him photos of the damage and the tarps that were just laying in my yard instead of being placed on my roof. I FINALLY get a response from Jen..."sorry for the inconvenience". Inconvenience?!? Really?!?

So, this morning, the 18th, I am walking out of the house to go to work and I see the roofers' truck pull up onto my sidewalk (my car is still in the driveway). I go to take my trash to the curb. The roofers used my trashcans for THEIR trash. Plastic sheets, food, shingles, etc. Did they bring a dumpster? Of course they didn't. They used my trash cans. My town requires trash to be bagged. So, I am standing in my driveway cursing. I walk towards the truck. It takes off and parks a block away on a side street. Coward. I text my rep again to tell him these guys had better bag up their trash properly so that I don't have to. I am paying them after all.

I get home tonight and my tv and internet are not working and there are wires from the satellite hanging in front of a window. Stuff was still sitting in my garden. So, I had to take an entire day off yesterday because I didn't want to come home to a flood in my house. I'm going to have to call AT&T to fix my satellite dish. AND I have to have a public adjuster come to my house to assess the damage their incompetent roofers caused because they didn't put a tarp over my open roof when rain had been predicted over the weekend for DAYS. Just save yourself a lot of aggravation and avoid this company like the plague.

We reached out to Sunrun and the guy that we worked with was based in Utah. They gave us the greatest information and they were very thorough. They had people come out and examine our rooftop and they even flew a drone over the house to take the dimensions of the house. They did a wonderful job of figuring out how many panels we would need and where they would be put on the roof. They also did the permits. They did all the paperwork for Edison and all we had to do was sign a few things, and we could do that right online. They were always right there to help us and answer any questions thoroughly. They did a magnificent job.

Sunrun is also doing constant surveillance on the equipment. There's an antenna that they can go in and look at our usage and system performance. If there are any problems, they know it before we do and they will send someone out. Once a month, they email us with our usage and performance so that we are always up-to-date with how we are doing month to month. It's fabulous. I absolutely love them. They have some remote control over the system to fix any quirks and that's fine with me. I love it.

The experience with Sunrun was very easy. Expectations were not set clearly but ultimately, it was done. Part of the problem was that we purchased a backup battery and when they came to install the panels, they didn't have the backup battery. The people that were installing did not let us know that they didn't have the battery until they were walking to get back in the car. They said, "Oh, by the way, we didn't have the battery. There was no battery available." We had to wait two more months for the battery. That was totally unacceptable because we can't use our system. We had it installed in mid-July and the system didn't get turned on until October because of the delay in the battery. We live in the desert where it gets very hot, and we wanted to have solar to power our HVAC system and it wasn't available until October when we really did need it.

The representative explained it, but then I get periodic emails from them that they keep me up on the technology and my own personal usage, so their follow-through on the service was very good. It just took a while for them to turn it on 'cause they have to interface it with the local energy company. Sunrun said to use a hose to get it off, but they suggested not to go up on the roof. But with no sun and snow, any little light that gets through the clouds isn't being helpful, so we gain zero kilowatt hours. Also, the people that recommended them haven't received their gift card. We recommended somebody too. They called but they never called back. I called my sales agent several times and he has not returned the calls. We had given information for somebody to look at it. We are having one hell of a time getting SunRun to live up to and abide by our contract. This is not a new problem and we thought that it had been resolved when we were with Vivint. Our mistake. To begin with, panels were removed from our patio cover to build a new structure. The job was only going to take one week. I sent a message to a specific rep with SunRun that it would only take one week. The job site supervisor for the removal confirmed that the patio would be back up in one week. It took 3 months for SunRun to reinstall the panels.

In the meantime our solar system was completely offline. We were told that there was something wrong with our system, that it was not producing power as expected. That was 6 weeks ago and no one has been out to service them. All the while our true-up is climbing through the roof. In our first year of operations the true-up was $900. We have almost 5 months to go and it's at $2400. If you're thinking about a SunRun system---DON'T. They'll install, but don't expect service or for them to live up to their contract.

I had a very good time with the person who sold me the system and with the people who installed it. I had a new roof put on as well as the solar equipment because my old roof was too old for it. It's been a few months now that the system has been operating and it seems to be functioning correctly. The only thing was my power line to the house from the power pole cut across an area with my roof and the installers couldn't put the panels under that power line so I lost some area of my roof that otherwise would have given me a layout that would have given me about 1,000 more units. Other than that, my system seems to be doing well and has radically reduced my electricity costs as one would hope it would since it sent me back about 18,000. I looked at my first electric bill that went from $110 to $8. So far, I'm totally satisfied with my system and with the people that worked with me from Sunrun.

The permitting with the city and even the switch by the electric utility were fairly quick. There's one tiny thing that complicates transactions and that's because the tenant is involved. The tenant is paying the actual monthly fee and there's access for only one person to the performance data. So it should be accessible for both the landlord and the tenant. Another concern that I have is the long-term contract that may be affecting the sale of the property in the future.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING SUNRUN. I was introduced to SunRun through Costco while in Home Depot. I have always trusted vendors that operate through these two companies as being thoroughly vetted. The salesman we met with told my family, "We may not be the cheapest, but we will make up for it with superior customer service." My experience with SunRun has been a nightmare. I built a brand-new home and hired SunRun. The initial install was quoted for half a day. The crew was here for three, and when they left, they had only completed a partial install.

The team blamed Sun Run for not supplying them with the necessary parts to complete the installation. An installation crew member explained that he was instructed to "make it work" with what they have. This resulted in the crew cutting untreated 2X4 slats in my driveway to secure solar panels. When the team left, I inspected what I could see from a neighboring lot. It is evident that some of the panels were diagonal and not in line with the others. I climbed a ladder to gain a closer look and found that three panels were not installed at all and were, in fact, just sitting on my roof. I retrieved one without getting on the roof but contacted SunRun about the other two.

It took two days before someone came out to inspect my complaint. These unsecured panels could have blown off at any time and injured someone. I submitted my findings to SunRun, and they attempted damage control by sending a crew out unannounced. I only knew of their existence because I heard someone on my roof. By the time I confronted the crew, they had removed the two unsecured panels and filled the bed of a truck half full of broken tiles retrieved from the roof. The crew asked permission to enter my attic space to inspect the work of the previous crew. I allowed on the condition that they did not take any tools to cover up mistakes made by the last crew. While they were up there, they unplugged my security system. I can only guess they were hoping this would disable recording; however, this only disabled me from accessing the recordings remotely. Locally everything was still being stored.

After seeing the wood and unsecured panels, I decided to hire a third-party home inspection company. What they found was beyond incompetence on SunRun's behalf. After I submitted my finding, SunRun sent another crew out. The gentleman who came out told me that he has been with Sun Run for 14 years, and mine was the worst install he has ever seen. We worked out an agreement that SunRun would hire a nonaffiliated roofer to do any repairs before we continued the solar panel installation. Some days later, it started raining. My roof was full of missing tiles and numerous holes where the original crew attempted to tie into the trusses, missed and left the holes unfilled. My brand-new roof was leaking!

I contacted SunRun through their customer service number because they were ignoring my Emails. SunRun sent a crew out to replace the missing tiles and stop any leaks. At this time, the crew leader informed me that the install job was unsalvageable. They took down everything the original crew had installed and replaced the broken tiles. They assured me that they would do what they were within the scope of their profession. Then the aforementioned unaffiliated roofer would come and make the repairs. The next day the roofer arrived and spent about an hour before leaving. I contacted SunRun and asked for the report from the roofer. To this day, they have not given me the report.

The solar panels have been stored in my garage for months now. SunRun started my install in September, and it’s now mid-January. My driveway is permanently stained from the "make it work" crew, and now I'm having to deal with their legal department because I want to cancel with them. They won't let my family out of the contract because they claim they already installed the same panels stored in my garage. I have filed with the R.O.C, and now I'm trying to warn everyone I can about my experience with SunRun.

Since going with Sunrun, the electricity bill is lower. The only thing that I dislike is they want to be paid monthly by taking it from my checking account, which I'm not thrilled about. I don't like people going into my checking account and taking money out. The guy told me that my next payment would due on February 7 and to call them and they'll take my credit card and pay with it. I just don't want to do that every month because in the summertime, we're busy. If I miss a payment, it's not cool. So, they’re gonna have to work something out.

Sunrun allowed me to go solar without out-of-pocket expense. When I signed up, their salesperson, Mitchell, was walking around through the different houses here in this brand-new development, and he was a very informative guy and very personable. If he didn't have the answers to the questions, he could get them for me and the process with him went smoothly. Since going solar, if I look at APS, who was my electrical company, and the solar, all in all, there has been some savings although not tremendously. Besides that, not too long ago, I found a piece of plastic down on my patio that I think came off of the panels. I said something to Mitchell and I haven't heard anything back. But other than that, I'm pretty happy with Sunrun.

After hundreds of hours on the phone and many different excuses (lies) from their staff, (especially upper management), I've discovered that the new ploy for stealing the contractual money is to manipulate the performance data and change the rules of the previous contracts so they won't have to payback your over payment. But other than that, I had no problems. They're very knowledgeable about what they're doing and they're very helpful when they came out to install it. I'm paying more right now than I would be if I was paying my electric and gas by paying the extra $51 a month. I wish the sales rep explained things a little better. I wish he told me, “Here's what you can save, or here's what you won't save.” He showed me a graph but it didn't mean much to me. Maybe he should have offered more information. But some of it was my own fault too because I jumped in without really asking enough questions. The installation went fine and the crew was nice. They left a little bit of trash on the roof but it wasn't much so my son took that off. As far as the product, it's probably good. If you're installing solar simply to help the environment, that's fine. But if you’re installing them to save money for yourself, I don't recommend that.

Working with SunRun was good. There were a lot of parts because my father's place needed to get reroofed and it was great because they were able to help us do that part. With the removal of the old system, the putting in of the new system and the timing of everything, they were very patient as well. I appreciate the time they took to go through the motions because it took longer than normal time. Once they installed, then we had to wait for the local electric company to turn it on. So once it was finally turned on, we were like, “Yay!”

The old set up that my father had is still connected to the electric company. This new setup is going through the battery. It is wintertime so we are not getting as much sun as normal. My dad was expecting a dramatic decrease in the bill and hoping that the batteries were sucking up enough juice in addition to providing juice during the day so they wouldn't be tapping into the regular electric company. SunRun said there's a way to monitor but because I have my own system, I can't log into theirs and it's weird not to be able to see what they're producing.

When people are like, "Why are you leasing SunRun's panels" I'm like it's because then they are responsible for the maintenance and that's one less headache on my shoulders. Our system was not generating as much power and it was great for them to call and say, “Hey, we want to check out your system.” And they found out one of the transmitter things wasn't working, so that's why particular panels weren't generating any electricity. I'm like, “Well, I wouldn't have thought to think about that or be checking, ‘Oh! Hey! How come it's going down?’” I just thought, “Hey, we're using more electricity because the kids are home because of COVID.”

I love that Sunrun was started by a bright young woman and she's still the head of things. She has some great ideas and she tries to run a tight ship. The people that work for her seem to really respect her too. Enrolling in Sunrun was bumpy. I needed to be up in the summer and I would really be doing my duty to Mother Earth, which is one of the reasons that I wanted to use the sun. I started talking to them last spring and it was just starts and stops. I wouldn't hear from the salesperson and he was not reliable. He would miss appointments or he screwed up constantly. The job didn't get finished until the third week of November and they're still tweaking it. Those were discouraging.

However, Sunrun means well. It's not the best company in the world but they're trying. Overall, I'm okay with it. But there are things that they don't tell you in the initial discussions that would be very helpful. One of them is the day that they installed the panels, it was excruciatingly noisy and it was terrible. If you have pets, you should plan to put your pets someplace else for the day. Also, they should tell you that when you have snow, it covers the panels and they don't want you to get up there dusting them off. They tell you that a couple of good rains in December will wash them off. But you're losing the sun when the panels are covered with snow. I would still recommend Sunrun to a friend because they try, but I would say, “These are the things you need to look out for.”

I'm still gonna pay rent with Sunrun for their panels. You can buy them if you want to if you want the expense of maintaining them. In my case, I want Sunrun to take charge of all that. There's a technician coming out next week, on the 21st, because something isn't quite right. He keeps tweaking something. Sunrun does want to make it right. The rent is $1 or $2. After that, you start paying rent every month then you're also paying the utility company. For the first couple of years, you might not save much money. But you'll start to build up credits. There's another thing that I really like about Sunrun. I rent their generator and it works. A couple of weeks ago, we lost power two days in a row and the generator came on instantly. That was really nice.

But the installation took a little while. The biggest hang-up wasn't the company but the getting the city permits and things that you need, because the government runs at its own pace. But the gentleman that came out first checked my roof to see if I would need additional new roofing and he did a very thorough job. He okayed my roof as is because it is in good shape, then after that, the gal contacted me again and we talked about a date that they could install. Sunrun gave me a good deal. The boy I worked with was great. The people who put the whole thing together were fast and efficient. It was just the path between Xcel Energy and the whole situation. With the power company, it was always on their time schedule and backed out like two months. Whenever they get to it, they get to it. When I was in the middle and not knowing what was going on, I didn't get a whole lot of help. I got like, "We'll come out and take a look at it." But then, that was not what happened. They were still a little bit lost at that point.

When considering solar, people should not to be in a hurry. Just figure that if you start in the spring, you're going to be lucky if you can start getting money off in the fall/winter. It's not anything that you can rush. So if you're gonna sell your house, you might as well not do it because you're gonna be in the middle of it while you're selling your house.

From the time that I decided to go forward with Sunrun to the time that they came out and did the install was three weeks to a month because it had to get approved from my village and from the electric company. They were out there three days, and it took another couple weeks until the system was up and running. There was some confusion on the backend about the serial number of my panel, and it was not giving me the right data.

Ultimately, it ended up working and it did great for two months. Once winter hit, my electric bill got higher again, but that's because we have a swim spa that runs all day in the winter and uses up a lot of electricity. My electric bill is still lower, but it's not saving too much money now. When I get into the March, April months is where I expect to really see a difference and try to gain some credits with the electrical. That's been my experience so far.

A lot of people don't want something permanently on their house, and the advice that I would give is that everything's turning green. Everyone's always looking for ways to save the planet. Especially if you are in the market for a new roof or recently got a new roof, then this would be the perfect time to do it. I have no regrets for going solar. I did a lot of research and talked to other customers, Realtors and my insurance company. Everybody said it was a good decision to make.

It was a good experience with Sunrun. I'm enjoying the benefits of it right now with the lower bills. My first bill after having Sunrun was only $7 and 40-something cents and my last bill was $21.41. The installers were safe. They put their own barriers around the house so nobody would walk on it. They said if I get the battery, the battery's even better. I was gonna get the battery when they first installed what they got up on the roof now. But I have a big old generator, so I was gonna use that. But if the battery's big enough to run the whole house, I'd rather have the battery. Plus, they say if you have the battery, you're off the grid. You don't have to have the electric company unless the sun doesn't come out for a whole month or so. A guy was supposed to come by to talk about the battery but I don't know what happened to him. Hopefully, that guy will come tomorrow.

Donald was the guy that I dealt with and he was very informational and hands-on. The guys who came and installed the system did a great job. They did it within a day. They were very professional and nice. The only thing was that it took a while. But I understood it was going through. Once the city inspector came out, everything pretty much moved pretty fast after that. I got my PTO to turn my solar on at beginning of November. But the process started in May and it took a good six months because you have to go through the steps.

I signed up to get the payment automatically debited from my account every single month because it saves you a small portion. The only other difference was I was told my dollar amount was gonna be X amount. But it was about $7 more that came out of my account, which I'm not gonna cry about. Since November, my PG&E bill has still been over $200 every single month, when I was told that it would only be about $10 to $20 just to keep me on the grid because all of my energy would be coming from solar.

My Sunrun system is producing almost the same as it used to, but Edison changed their rules for what they charge and what they pay for your production. I’d have to put on a bigger system and make it work. But I just had Sunrun's reps out because I wasn't getting any readout on my system and they fixed my readout. Other than that, their salesman lied to me. Getting things up and running took almost a month longer than it should have because they couldn't get the right paperwork out. I had to go to the house every time they had to come out and do an inspection and it was an absolute pain. So I was paying for the system before I even was producing anything.

All in all, the system works fine and everyone who came out was nice. I would also love to recommend them because I could make $1,000 every time, but I wouldn't recommend them because the salesman said different things which never happened and I didn't like the amount of time it took for them to get anything approved.

Working with the salesman from Sunrun, Dario, was A plus. He was fantastic. After that, everything went downhill. A lot of it was my fault, but there was no follow up. They were asking me to sign forms. I don’t sign forms on the computer. I didn’t even know how. I wish everything would have been done through the mail, and it would have been easier for me. I'm not a computer person. Once my youngest son helped me with it, then it went much smoother. I just wish someone would have called me. I want people contact. I don't want this stuff through the computer. I started it last June, and I’ve only had it two months running. So, Joe came here to work on something that needed to be done. He was outstanding, but the process was F minus.

My youngest son who recommended Sunrun has had a wonderful experience, but so far, I’m not impressed. I saw a reduction in the first billing, and then last month, our PG&E bill was 357. I’ve never had a bill in the winter for that high. In the summer, we like our air conditioning. We get some outrageous bills, and that was why I went into solar. I’m hoping with the next billing cycle, that it would show a difference. I just want a lower electricity bill. My mind is not run like that. We're paying all this money, and I can't see any results. Leaving out Dario and Joe, I wouldn’t recommend Sunrun. The rumor is that they have gotten so big that there's some greed involved, and I agree with that. My experience was terrible.

On the first installation attempt, the crew came and the roof was bad. I had to replace my roof and then they came back again a month later to get it done. That was the only hiccup in the whole process. Other than that, everything was smooth. It was a good process.

Snow guards have been installed, and we appreciate it and hope they help when the snow comes. It would have been helpful to know prior to signing the contract that this is a problem with snow, and that we would be responsible to pay for the solution. Also, if after contacting customer service, if indeed a solution had been in the works for 8-10 months, it would have been helpful for that to have been communicated to us. Instead we had to reach out, even to our sales representative, numerous times. Hopefully this is a great product for us, but better customer service would definitely have increased our confidence in this company.

    Original Review: Dec. 28, 2021

We had our Sunrun solar panels installed the beginning of 2021. Faulty design issues allow our entire roof full of snow to slide onto our porch roof and sidewalk with tremendous force that causes the entire house to shake, which may cause damage to a historic home and injury to pedestrians. (We have lived here for almost 25 years and never had this problem.) After continued reaching out, customer service has taken about 9-10 months to respond with a solution, and said they would provide a solution that will only help, but not solve the problem and it will be at our expense of $300-400.

We are still waiting for that and are now into the snowy season. Due to the possible injury to those who walk by, we need to put up caution tape, which blocks the walkway, whenever we have snow. We are the first home on our street to go solar, and our neighbors are concerned with the situation. I would never recommend this company due to their lack of concern for possible damage to our home and the safety of individuals.

They don't have a buyback if we are taking nights free. That's okay. One month, it has come to 73. And the other month, it has gone up to 125. When I checked, they said the solar panels are not generating as much as it was expected. The capacity might have been miscalculated. Otherwise, everything is fine. Sunrun has given a good service. Enrolling with Sunrun took longer than I expected. The system was designed for three batteries and the reps came out not knowing that. They were only going to put in one so that delayed the permit process. There were issues with the permits with Contra Costa County, which legitimately may be considered outside of the parameters of Sunrun. They don't have control over the permit process but they do have control over how it was reported incorrectly the first time. The delay cost an extra two months. We started it in April of 2021 and we got turned on October 5th.

The installation team was good. But the following day after they did the install, I had my painter come out to paint and he discovered that I had four broken roof tiles. It was from the solar install so I called Sunrun. They responded immediately. They had somebody out the next day with brand new roof tiles and they communicated to me that the installers don't normally tell us. They just come out and repair anything that's damaged. They did it in a timely manner and worked on a hot day. I'm satisfied. After we had the installation, our first PG&E bill was $19 instead of $200.

I don’t use the Sunrun much but I use the Tesla app to monitor our three power walls. It is able to tell me at a glance instantly the current production and the past, based on day, week or month. It's a phenomenal app. We had a crazy hiccup though. We were installed October 5th and around November 10th, the Tesla app showed that we had no production. We had production but we had no storage. It was as if something had been turned off. So, we set an appointment for Sunrun. It took them three weeks to come out and the technician discovered that it had nothing to do with Sunrun. Tesla had a software update and as soon as that software update was completed remotely by a Tesla technician on the phone with Sunrun, we had solar power being stored in the batteries. I could monitor it again.

I'm rooting for Sunrun. The package that we got is 25 years bumper-to-bumper repair, maintenance and replacement of the panels, the batteries and the inverter. I'm happy with that package and I'm hoping that Sunrun is here for decades to come. I sell heating and air conditioning, and every time somebody even mentions solar, I tell them to go Sunrun. So, I actively promote it.

WARNING, I regret my decision to have gone with this solar company every day. I’ve been a customer for several years. BEWARE. About a year ago I began to notice water stains on my ceiling on one whole side of my house. My roof was less than 5 years old when they installed the panels. I reached out to the company and got no response. No one was willing to come out and inspect my roof. This continued for about 3 months until I was able to get in contact with someone. Not until a month later, they came out and uninstalled the panels on the damaged side of my roof. Those panels have been in my yard since June 2021. No one has been returning my calls, no one has been back to my house to help me with the leaks.

It is now December, I finally was able to talk to a case manager last week, which is 6 weeks from when she was assigned to me (sounds like I was a real priority). They sent out a guy who inspected my roof. He told me there was no way it was the panels and it was a defect in the shingles. I contacted the reputable roofer who installed my roof professionally and he came out to inspect and told me in 40 years the shingle company has existed there has never been a defect. The only cause could be from the installation of the panels. The guy Sunrun sent out not only forged an entire story but forgot to mention all the debris that was left on my roof from sun run. Unfortunately I’m locked into a 20 year contract with them. This is the worst, most unprofessional company I’ve ever experienced in all my years of living. Their panels RUINED my roof and caused damage to not only my roof but my attic, and my ceiling. Now I am stuck repairing something THEY CAUSED. BEWARE. They called me a few days ago about receiving a refund after the first of the year. Then I haven't been able to connect through the internet to my account through Sunrun so I can track things every day if I want to. They have not fixed that yet. They said that a person would be calling me in two to three days. It's taken them a long time to get back to me on these things and I'm not happy. They should have done what they said when I signed the papers and agreement, that I would be able to track every day how my solar system is doing. If I can't connect to them, how are they connecting to my solar panels? They’re supposed to keep track if anything happens to it. I know my solar panels have snow on them.

I should have asked for the backup battery. We didn't push it because the power goes out, and the salesman at the time, who no longer works for the company, informed us that the battery wouldn't be strong enough to operate our artesian well. I'd rather have that running than my lights, refrigerator, and freezer. Unless it was in the middle of the summer, then it wouldn't take much to go down the river to get water to flush the toilet instead of the artesian well. But in the wintertime, it's frozen over.

We had called and started to do it, and then she told us to do it through her and we'd get some gift cards, which we never got, so we ended up enrolling twice. It ended up taking us five hours to get enrolled.

The installation crew was fine for the most part and they did their job. There were just a few things that got messed up in our house. The cable had to do with the roof that we bundled in with it. The guy ended up having to move a box, which apparently controlled our internet, as he had to put the Sunrun boxes right where it was, and then it got disconnected and he was not able to put it back. I was at home at the time and trying to work, and all of a sudden, I had no internet. I ended up having to pay to get our cable and internet fixed. They were gonna reimburse for the damages to the cable and internet, and then they did not. I wasn't happy about them promising things and yet they didn't fulfill. But then our energy bill has been going down. Last month it was a $500 difference and that was pretty big. Overall, it was pretty good.

By going through Costco, I got a $1,000 Costco card. We got a lot of panels put on during installation and it was a pretty hot day, and the guys still did it all that day. The only issue I had was that there was a little bit of a delay and a lot of the delay ended up being on the municipal side. But that's understandable considering the state of the world at the moment. We didn't get the system turned on until mid-October. My power bill that month was expected to be in the 300s and it dropped down to the low 200s. Then now, I just got my first full month of solar and my power bill was $13, and that’s just the basic charge.

It is sad but common these days to deal with companies who have completely lost a sense of integrity and customer service. Welcome to the new normal, I guess. Running a business is hard….I know because I own one so when I write reviews, whether good or bad, it comes from a place of value and honesty. That's how companies improve, right? I have been dealing with open issues since May involving this solar process. The first issue involves a 3rd party contracted company called Prowest.

Sunrun hired Prowest to complete the underlayment before the solar was installed. Prowest had their team come out and complete the job quickly but apparently broke roof tiles because once the job was complete, the very top capstone ridge of my house was dark red on a very light pink tiled roof. They also replaced a tile on the back side of the house with a dark purple tile, again, on a light pink roof. I sent photos to Prowest and “Netika” my install coordinator at Sunrun. I explained to Netika that this needed to be fix before 1- the solar is installed 2 - the HOA sends a violation notice. Netika from Sunrun suggested to paint the tiles, to which I agreed, in order to move forward on the installation under the agreement that Prowest would fix this mistake.

When I emailed Netika about the status of the roof tiles towards the end of July, 2 months after the install, I was ghosted. I did talk to another customer service rep who explained that she knew Netika, would get answers and follow up. She didn’t follow through either. Finally, in August I left a review on Yelp about Prowest’s work on my roof to which the company contacted me with 10 minutes to find a solution. I’m [still] working with them to fix not only the mismatched roof tiles but also to figure why I have a leak in my roof since this was a brand-new underlayment. Grrr. Keep reading….the story gets better….

Another issue with Sunrun was with our A/C unit. Again, a 3rd party A/C company was hired by Sunrun to add a “soft start” to our main unit. About 1 month after installation, the unit began to make a very loud noise on a Saturday evening so we turned off the power to preserve machine. My husband contacted a A/C company first thing Monday morning and I contacted Sunrun. Sunrun customer service opened a “ticket” and explained that someone would get back to me soon. No one did, no one ever does. The A/C company we contacted came same day, evaluated, and reported that we need to get the original company to evaluate in case the issue is covered under warranty.

I called Sunrun to relay this information along with sending the report. I was told that someone would contacted soon to schedule the A/C company to fix the issue. To make this adventure more thrilling, this was July...in Phoenix, Arizona. Finally, after 4 days and nights of 89-degree bedroom temperatures and zero communication from Sunrun, I called [again] and asked for the name of company who installed the soft start so I can get this resolved. I called the company (Steve Ultimate Air) and spoke to a very helpful lady, Irene, who explained that she was shocked that Sunrun failed to be on top of this issue, but she was able to get someone out the following morning and fix the unit. (It was a bad capacitor). THANK YOU!

The next issue, which is still an open item to date, December 10, 2021, 6 months after install: my 2 very expensive Tesla Powerwalls decorations in my garage. Sunrun has an app to graph power production from our panels and to monitor battery status. When I registered for the app, it showed a single battery (I have 2). I called Sunrun to asked if this was normal…I was told no, it should show both batteries.

In addition, it was explained several times by the Sunrun sales rep (Brooks) that I would be able to view and control my 2 Powerwalls through the Tesla app with the purpose of controlling how power is being routed during the day/night to & from the batteries. I couldn’t register with the Tesla app, so I called Sunrun about this issue but was told to contact Tesla as it was on Tesla’s end. I discussed the issue with Telsa customer service only to learn that they do not handle 3rd party Powerwall purchases and needed to return to the company I purchased the batteries. Painful sigh.

Back to Sunrun. At this point I am 2 months after install with an app showing 1 battery, no connection to Tesla and personally dealing with Prowest as Sunrun never followed through on the mismatched roof tiles (HOA violation letter…check!). Sunrun scheduled an appointment mid-August to evaluate the installation work and figure out why the batteries were not communicating with the Sunrun/Telsa apps. “Alex”, from Sunrun, admitted that Sunrun had failed to complete registration of my batteries, guaranteed me that he would see it through, offered to help set up the Tesla app once the batteries were registered and gave me his cell number.

About 1 month later with no change, I contact Alex directly. He told me that he was horrified that it still wasn’t fixed, and he would get back to me. Do you think that happen? Nope. I got really busy around September so put this on the back burner however, out of desperation, I contacted my original sale rep Brooks to help with this headache. Brooks was great with the initial sales and education process. (You can tell this is where Sunrun spend their time on training.) He was somewhat helpful but this is not his department. He didn’t get very far in the process but told me that he forwarded the issue to a manager. No manager ever contacted me about this open issue.

Fast forward a couple more months to current standing on this issue. It is now December. Now the Sunrun app shows no batteries and no charge on the batteries…since August apparently. I called and spoke to Sunrun customer service rep who admitted that the "battery issue" is still an open ticket on my account and that I will be contacted by Sunrun in 3-4 days. No one called however, I received a technical email stating: “Hello, We are contacting you with an update to your case. Our PDT professional reviewers, added DIN (Device ID Number) for Tesla communications Gateway to our systems, it was never added in properly to active Gateway asset. DIN update should bring the Tesla battery to report to our system your production within 24-48 hours. For help setting up your Tesla App so you can monitor on your own, please call our customer care to provide assistance at (855)478-6786. Thank you and have a wonderful day!” Great.

A technical solar jargon email that is not helpful at all and admitting that Sunrun STILL HAS NOT REGISTERED MY BATTERIES. So here I am…72 hours after that email…no batteries showing on their app. No power being stored on the batteries. No connection to the Tesla app. And of course…no one is calling to follow up. SO. I’m resorting to posting on many platforms to hopefully save someone from the headache of using this horrible company.

Actually, this is a follow up review regarding my horrible experience with the SUNRUN Interconnection Team. The solar project has been paid in full after they finished installing the system last August 12, 2021. The next step is filling up and submitting the Interconnection application to PG&E by the Project Coordinator, which was submitted to me for my signature approval. Three weeks later, I contacted the Project Coordinator to get status update of the project, but I was unable to get hold of her, so, I left a message on her voicemail. I called PG&E on Sept. 21st to get update on the interconnection application, but I was surprised to know that the interconnection application form that they submitted was rejected due to wrong information.

The coordinator responded with text message after 3-4 days, but not mentioning any updates. She just informed me that she was moving to a different department, so, I will be getting a new coordinator. Later on, I got an e-mail from SUNRUN, introducing herself as my new coordinator and informed me that my supposed to be coordinator got ill, so she’s going to take over the job. I mentioned to her about the problem on the form that they submitted to PG&E, so, she assured me to take care of it. She filled up a new form and have me DocuSign it online.

Three weeks later, I never got any updates from her as she promised, so, I called the number she gave me, but with no luck. I left a message on her voicemail, but decided to call PG&E again to get status update. I was informed that the form they submitted was rejected again for the same reason. Since I could not get hold of the project coordinator, I e-mailed her and vented out my frustrations how this same problem has not been corrected. I contacted the salesman that I dealt with before and mentioned to him the situation of the project. He was in disbelief that after 3 months, the project is still on hold. He promised to help me to escalate the problem with his manager which I think they did.

A week later, I received a new DocuSign application form from the project coordinator for my signature approval. This was the third application form to be submitted, the first two was rejected due to errors. After four months since August, there is ZERO progress made by the Interconnection Team. I’m pretty sure that these people really needs further training on how to properly fill out forms. I will just hope that this horrible experience that I’m sharing now will not happen to anyone again. Spare the Headache and Stress by getting a better and trusted solar provider.

I had used Sunrun previously in my home in California. It was a huge saving. I looked at the numbers that have been put out and I looked at my energy rating for my house, and it seemed to be a pretty decent deal. So, I went with Sunrun this time again. This time, the enrolling process was not bad, but I had to push for some information. Still, at the end of the day, I've been negotiated into a deal which was not fully disclosed.

The installation of my panels went well. The installers did a good job. It's just that when I was initially doing the consultation about the system design phase, I was not made aware of certain things. The inverter that I'm using right now backs up only part of the house. But then I, at least, have the idea that the battery backup system that I have would power the house a little bit during the day. When the night starts, it will deplete the battery and then go into using the power. But it looks like that's not how it can be set up with this existing inverter. Only the Tesla inverters do that.

They gave me two options to choose from. One was Tesla and the other one was the Delta inverters. I was looking for SolarEdge inverters, which I had experience with before. They said that it's not in use with Sunrun anymore. So, there are some kind of troubles there. As far as production, mine is good because I've installed a system at a higher capacity than what I need. Even on a cloudy day, it's a pretty decent amount of production. But then with my utilization, even though I produce, I'm unable to take advantage of the power that I'm producing because of the way the power companies are structured here in Texas. It's different from California. California gives the credits back, but I don't think Texas companies do give credits.

I have 9 kilowatt-hours of battery that is sitting there, which I cannot take advantage of at all. Only when the entire grid fails that comes online. I can use that 9 kilowatt-hours to run my entire night, in most cases. So, that's my problem. That, apparently, is only available with the other inverters. Also, the app that is connecting to Sunrun only gives power production of the previous day. I cannot see what is the power production right now if I wanted to right now. With the SolarEdge app, I was able to monitor that. With this Delta inverters, I don't have any insight. There is a 24-hour lag time, and it only shows the daytime production. I'm pretty confident there is also nighttime production because I know if there is a full moon out there, there is enough power production.

I’m kind of a very technology-savvy customer. Sunrun has gone with a deal with this particular inverter, Delta inverter, which kind of blocks me out from seeing what I want to see, just whatever Sunrun chooses to show me is what I see. So, it's kind of very limiting. I tried calling Delta. They said, “Oh, this is a custom inverter, we cannot do that.” I couldn't find anybody to help me with that as well. With SolarEdge, previously, in California, I was able to get in touch with SolarEdge. They gave me the system identifier, and so I put it in their app, and it would directly give me monitoring directly through SolarEdge. I didn't have to use a Sunrun app. SolarEdge app has way much more details than what Sunrun app provides. Sunrun’s app is more for like a simple customer that says, “Oh, I'm happy. I'm doing some production.”

I've invested $40,000 and I think that app could have been more user-friendly. The person who advised me could have given me a little more advice, saying, “Hey, you are spending this much money. Why don't you look at the other one?” Very clearly, I told him, there are two reasons I'm going for solar. One is to reduce my energy cost. Second is to have a battery backup. Essentially, I'm not building any system without a battery backup, and I was completely not advised about this other feature in Tesla.

With Tesla, apparently, you can have very good details on the batteries. Sunrun is not involved in that. So, I directly get Tesla's app, and I can follow up on that. Also, it backs up the entire house. So, I can section off parts of the house and turn off the circuit breakers, and again, save them to run it for probably a couple of days, if need be. So, that is something I'm a little bit sad about. The people who came to install were all wonderful and I had a wonderful experience, but during the design phase, the project coordinator could have done a better job of informing what is needed because we depend on their expertise to understand what needs to be done. They did not do a good job even after telling them, “I'm up to $40,000. Design a system for me that will give me the best bang for the buck in terms of saving power.”

In California, the guy who came in was so well-knowledged. He kind of gave me not only what system I need to use and why I need to use the system and what is the power company doing. I did not even know that the power companies don't do a buyback policy here in Texas until after I had installed the system and I went to the power company. They said, “Oh, we don't buy your power back. We don't need your power.” I had to call back and figure out and then all that stuff happened.

I recently purchase a house that has a system, I was told by the owner that Sunrun would get ahold of me before closing date. They did not. I was able to find a tag on one of the components with a name and phone number of the system Mfg. Call and the women I talked to told me that my system was installed by Sun Run and I will need to talk to them. She gave me their contact information. I called and was transferred to the transferring agent. His name Hemerson **. This seems to the only time I really got to talk to him on the phone, he said that all the questions I have would be answered in the paperwork he would send me the next day. And seemed that he did not want to be bother with even trying to answer my questions. And seemed the more questions I asked, the more it bother him, it was few days later when I received a copy of the original contract that was signed by the previous owner. After reading it I had questions.

Since then, I have call him at least 5 times and left messages and have emailed 1 to 2 times a week since Oct 8. It is now Dec 10. I have received emails saying that my question has been transferred to my agent and that they will get back to me in 1-2 business day. They have not. Customer Service seems to be lacking.

I tried calling the local Sunrun business and all they could do is transfer me to the call center and I did talk to another lady that was apologetic that this process was so hard but was unable to answer my questions. Said I had to go through Hemerzon. She did tell me that she would get ahold of him and make sure that he would get back to me. I have still not heard anything.

At this point I want to buy out the contract, so I don’t have to deal with them. Or have them removed and go with another company or just get away from Solar, If anybody know of a way to get this please let me know. If I would have known what I know now believe I would have walked from away from the home because of this.

The way that Sunrun's rep at Home Depot delivered his message to me when he asked the question about my PG&E bill captured my attention, and I wanted to know more. About a year before I enrolled with Sunrun, I had spoken with someone else about solar panels. But they couldn't explain it to me very well. They also told me they needed to cut the big tree down in front of my house and I didn't want that down, because that was why I bought the house. So I told them no. But Sunrun said they didn't need to cut the tree down.

The installation of the panels took two days and the installers were good. They cleaned up after themselves and I really liked that they were a group of young people because I have a younger son and he has a disability. And he was able to watch it. One of the guys talked to him as well so that was really good. So far, I don't hear much noise outside as I used to and that surprised me because I didn't ever think that roof was letting noise in. I always thought it was outside. And I can't hear as well from the back of the house to the front. I can't hear the noise going on in the kitchen, too. So the equipment installed cut down on a lot of noise that I used to hear. It also makes the house look uniquely built. I like the way they close the panels off by putting a flatted leaf there and didn’t leave it just exposed. And my SMUD bill is cheaper now. I would tell my neighbors how much a benefit it is to get Sunrun and that it's a good thing to invest in.

From the very beginning of the project, there was no communication. They have too many people working on the same project, nobody really in charge, and the panels took way longer to get it installed. They would show up, schedule an appointment, and after I called them for months, they'd say they were going to come and connect the system. And they came. Then the guy went out there and worked on it for a while, but said they couldn't connect it because the power company hadn't given them permission. I told them that hat was done two months ago, and I've been calling and waiting on them. He said he had no communication of that, so I showed him the email. So he went ahead and decided to turn it on.

Right now, I have been spending five weeks trying to get some new plans from Sunrun because the association came in and inspected the system. And they put in a conduit and an outlet on the outside of the house that were not in the original plans. Last week, I finally got ahold of somebody named Lina and this was my fourth phone call. She sent me the plans and finally got some painters scheduled, because also they didn't paint all the boxes that the association wants painted to match the house. But that took me calling every single week and people saying they were going to do this and that, and that they've got it in my file. The association gave me two weeks to get it done and I've had to file for extensions with them in order to not get fined.

We were also waiting for months for any response from them to get the system installed. It was so bad that we talked to the guy that we see every week in Home Depot selling Sunrun. He was the one that finally got on to schedule because I told them I was going to fire them. We actually have friends in our neighborhood that hired Sunrun, too, and after a year, they didn't have their solar panels. So they fired them and within three weeks, they had their panels installed by the new company. So I told him I was just going to stop the process. Then somebody showed up and started installing a week later. The whole thing was just bizarre.

There were a lot of positives pointed out & a $1,000 signing bonus. I signed with that in mind but said I wanted to research the issues of how the contract might affect the sale of my house & to think about it. I was reassured this wouldn't be an issue because of the tight housing market & people transferred the contract to new owners all the time.

However, I found an article about buying or selling your home w/ solar panels that laid out the facts. Buyers may be hesitant about taking on a long-term contract (this one is 25 years @ approx. $93 increasing to $172/mth w 2.9% interest) at a high cost versus a lower-cost contract with a shorter time span. (There is a $250 fee charged for the process of changing to a new owner. If the new owner doesn't qualify via their FICO score or refuses to sign, the contract states Sunrun can ask for the total amount of future payments from the contracted.) The article I read also points out that if the panels are owned outright by the homeowner it increases the value of the home, but not if the panels involve extensive contract payments at a high cost. I have some panels already in place by a different company but at a much lower cost and approx 8 years left on the contract.

Despite assurances by the sales rep, it seemed to me that I could end up paying for the duration of the contract despite selling the house or that a buyer might back out. As I want to sell my home in a few years and SMUD is amenable to my making similar payments for the yearly amount owed on the existing panels without a 25-year contract it didn't make sense to continue with the Sunrun contract.

It was also a bit scary that when I realized that this is a $30,000+ contract and the total cost was never pointed out to me, nor was I given the time to read the contract in detail. I only had 10 days to decline and discovered that the contract has a specific procedure in order to cancel the 25-year contract. This procedure wasn't shared with me & the rep continued to try to proceed w/ a site visit despite my sending him a notice (per BPC 7159 guidelines) that I had changed my mind. I later explained why at his request. He continued to proceed with plans for a site visit.

At that point, I was concerned that he was trying to run out the clock on my 10-day window. As stated in the contract, I filled out the NOTICE OF CANCELLATION in the contract and mailed it to Sunrun Installation Services, Inc. I find it bizarre that Sunrun has no fax (on purpose?). The contract states that I can mail them the notice or send it via telegram within 10 days. (I didn't think telegram was used anymore.) I did finally get the sales rep to understand that I wanted to cancel. However, I wanted to post my review as this is a serious long-term contract with heavy financial obligations that could last 25 years. I should have insisted on reading the contract prior to signing anything but am glad I figured out what to do. I would encourage others to read the contract in detail before signing and to research the costs & obligations. If canceling the contract within the 10-day window, follow the requirements set forth in EXHIBIT C.

Sunrun had to come back out and have SDG&E do another site visit to make sure that things were done correctly. Apparently, they didn't pass inspection for whatever reason. Sunrun did just show up unannounced. It would have been nice to have had a heads-up. But other than that, it looks like my electricity bill is about half right now. At least it was on the mid-cycle. So, we'll see at the end of the cycle.

The rep was lying and what I've been told is totally different with what I'm getting now. I went solar because I was thinking of saving money. I let Sunrun build the solar and I'm leasing that energy through the power company. Sunrun deals with the power company so, they screwed me around. I'm not happy and I'm gonna tell everyone to not even deal with this. They trap you in. So, I have to find a way how to get off this because if taken together, I'm paying a lot more than I used to pay.

Installation was very good. There were little hiccups and glitches, like Sunrun told me they wouldn’t install it one time, and we had to change the date. Other than that, everyone that came out was very pleasant. They tried to keep me informed along the way and did what they said they were going to do. If they said they would have it finished by that day, it was finished. The only drawback was when we had to wait almost four weeks for enCore to get around to giving the final approval. Sunrun had all the paperwork, and enCore had it too. I'm also having a little hiccup right now, but the Sunrun reps are still being very upfront and helpful.

The representative Jason was very informative, and I explained to him what my desire was. I wasn't trying to cover my whole home and produce enough electricity as I could or even try to have enough electricity to sell back to the power company. My main focus was to just have enough power that I could still comfortably stay in my home while they played with whatever they were playing with. I get a report from my electric company, saying how much my usage is, and there's been somewhat of a drop in my utility bill, but I'm not seeing a credit under my side yet.

The sales representative was awesome and the installation was great. The process took months and we just got up. But I don't know if it's been running or not because when it was installed, the installers never bothered to hook up the part that monitors the system so that they can see on their end and I can see on my end through my app the energy that the system is using. I made several calls to the salesman and the tech support, and they opened up four tickets. But they would never help me because they never closed the ticket before. So, I pulled out a ladder, opened the box, climbed up there and saw that they never hooked it up. They never bothered to call and never resolved the problem. So, I'd be pissed if I didn't climb up there on a ladder myself and connect the unit that sends information to them and me, but I'm the one who did that.

The salesperson was great but then, he quit contacting me even though I kept texting him and saying it was not working. He promised that he would take care of it. I even called and said they were supposed to bill us in November and I said that it's not even working and that they can't bill me. No one ever followed up. It was some person from India because they were hard to understand and they were in a different time zone so the times that they could call were very inconvenient for me because they don't start before 11 am in the morning. So, I have a big, bad mark against it. I couldn't recommend Sunrun to people because we went through all of that. And having me, as an older person, climb on a big, huge ladder to get in the box and see that they just didn't plug in the unit so that it could work.

I like seeing how much electricity the solar panels generate and I’m wondering if we're using power from TEP or is there some that is reserved for the evening hours when we use electricity at night time and there’s no sun. But I'm not ever going to call Sunrun unless I absolutely have to because the reps don't speak very good English. Hiring them saves money but that’s horrific. I wish I would have known that in advance because we wouldn't have done business with them. This has been so frustrating. If they would have sent a technician, he would have seen that it was so simple and the system would have worked. Also, they saw on their end that they couldn't read it but they still failed to send somebody out.

Sunrun helped out with everything. I was looking to do solar because my brother was pushing me. He said I have the perfect house so I started doing some investigative work. I talked to several companies and Sunrun came out with the best deal. Michael, the rep, never pushed so I wound up signing up. The installer came out in the god-awful heat and had to climb up into my hot attic. Everyone was wonderful about it. I had no issues and they took care of all that. Everything progressed exactly how the rep said.

We had one small glitch when Sunrun installed and then, we had to get the village out for the final inspection. It didn't pass. Sunrun came out right away and fixed it. They needed to ground to the water supply and that wasn't done. They said they would come out and set it up. It was Labor Day and I asked if they were going to send a crew out. The girl called me back and said that the installers said they would be out but they never showed up. I called and said that I was at work and they set it up for a couple of days later and gave me $100 because I would have worked Labor Day otherwise, and made the extra money. Sunrun compensated and took care of everything.

I feel fantastic and I love getting this $14 ComEd bill. My brother is very much into solar energy and green, and he went out and checked everything. He said that Sunrun did a nice job. My niece's boyfriend installs solar so he checked everything out and said too that it was nice. I give Sunrun’s name out to everybody. I had several people from work ask me about it and I said that it’s still new for me and we’ll wait and see how it does as we progress. I'd gone through two electric bills and I've already got solar and the kilowatts rolling, and I haven't used as much as I've produced. ComEd’s delivery fee comes to $14.34 and that's all my electric bill has been.

It’s winter and right about now, we would be under a lot of snow. I'm still producing a lot of solar although I've had a couple of days where it was one or two kilowatts. For the most part, even with the shortened days, I've been producing 25 kilowatts a day. We haven't had any snow and the weather has been quite cooperative. Once the snow hits, the kilowatts are gonna drop but I'm expecting that. The only thing is that I was hoping the solar would all be up and running quicker than it was. But it was not by any fault of Sunrun. It takes time to get the inspectors out and get the permits. But if we had gotten it up and running earlier, I would've hit a lot of that heavy duty summer months, where there are tons of sun. So I'm curious for next summer to see where it goes.

When I first started, they gave me Maria to be my project coordinator. I called her a couple of times but she never returned them. So, I called and talked to somebody else, they answered my questions and assigned somebody else to me. They sent the engineer out. It's funny because he put a hole in my ceiling. It looks like wood planks, like a shiplap almost ceiling in my family room. But it's actually like that Styrofoam board. And he was pressing on the ceiling, figuring out the strength of everything like that, because this house was originally a cottage. His hand went through my ceiling. He called his boss and within two days, they had somebody come out here and repair it and I could barely tell that it was patched. So, you can't beat that. Don't hide it. Just, “Let's see what we can do to make it right.” And they did. He did a very good job of patching.

I have to call ComEd because I was on a budget with them and it was $71. And the first month that my solar went live, they upped my budget to 94. I can see on the Sunrun website I'm producing solar. And on the ComEd website, when I went to pay my bill, it said that, “You'll start seeing solar credits next month.” And this month's bill is $94 again. This is my second full month of bills that I've paid Sunrun $45 last month and this month, but I'm not getting the solar credits on my ComEd bill. Other than that, the installers were great.

Updated on 01/19/2022: UPDATE: "Digital Engagement Specialist" told me to give him a time to call to follow-up. Didn't call me until a week later unexpectedly. Second Update: They were willing to give me a $2500 discount on their removal and reinstall of the panels. So I still have to pay $3500 for criminal behavior. But I'm stuck and they know it because I need a new roof, so I signed a contract for removal. Took a week or more to get a removal scheduled. They were removed about two weeks after that. Roof went on immediately following. So when will they be reinstalled? I asked the folks doing the removal and they said the scheduler would call. Roof done weeks ago and no call. So I called and they created a "support ticket" and someone would follow-up with me in 5 days.

A support ticket for the scheduling department to call me to set up the reinstall for over a month out?! What in the world? Why not just connect me with the scheduling department? So what can I do? I wait the 5 days. It's been over 10. No call. They don't want to reinstall these panels. I've e-mailed 3 times! They want me to pay for this? They want me to update my review to something better? I should never have to pay a dime for this sort of work. And the company that removed the panels was clearly a bunch on contracted employees paid on the cheap. Do you think I want them putting holes in my 50 year brand new roof? I'm definitely worried, but maybe my concerns are completely unfounded because they'll never actually get around to putting them back on my roof!

Third Update: MONTHS after we started this, I finally got the team to come out to start the reinstall. They installed all of framing for the panels but left at 3 PM stating they needed another two hours on a separate day to get the panels on. Seemed odd since they could have finished. But they blamed the appointment department saying for the size system it should have been a two day install. I explained that it had taken me weeks to even get calls back for appointments and that no one follows-up so I was concerned that I needed them to schedule another visit. He said, "No worries, I'll make sure someone calls you." Okay, well days later they send me an email with the appointment time for another several weeks out. Guess what? The day came and went and no one showed up, no one called. The system remains uninstalled.

I am on hold trying to figure out right now how to get them scheduled, get these 35 panels out my side yard, and finish this horrible saga. Oh, and the kicker? Sunrun has been billing me for generating power these past several months even though there are no panels on my roof. They don't even know in their own company that the panels are removed and they don't think to freeze the charges. So I'm guessing this is another several hour saga to get those charges reversed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!

Original Review: I was forced to assume a leased solar agreement from Sunrun because we bought a home where it was tied to a lien on the house. Sure, maybe you save a little money on your monthly electric bill, but you lose it all instantly (plus some) when you have to replace your shingles. This criminal company installed the whole system on an aged roof in need of repair! Of course, the lady (previous owner) who agreed to this heinous contract was buying whatever lies the door to door salesman from Vivint told her at the time so she agreed to put it on the roof. Now 3 years after the agreement was signed we need a new roof and Vivint will uninstall and reinstall for $6000! Criminal beginning to end.

Can't wait for the class action lawsuits--I'll either be bringing it myself or signing up right away! Called the team that gave me the quote and the agent said they have no problem installing on a roof in need of replacement--they just have to prove that at the time they install it is structurally sound. Who cares if they scam some elderly people who will need to replace their roof in 1 year? Well, I do and so does every other decent human being who isn't just another leech on society. Later on a "Digital Engagement Specialist" told me to give him a time to call to follow-up. Didn't call me until a week later unexpectedly.

Ultimately, they were willing to give me a $2500 discount on their removal and reinstall of the panels. So I still have to pay $3500 for criminal behavior. But I'm stuck and they know it because I need a new roof, so I signed a contract for removal. Took a week or more to get a removal scheduled. They were removed about two weeks after that. Well for a start I trusted this company right away since they are connected to COSTCO. Been a COSTCO member for a long time. I trust COSTCO so I trust Sunrun their product and efficiency. We were so excited to have our own solar panel installed believing we can really save a lot of money for our electric bill. We live in CA so electricity bill is like $600 the most especially summer time. There was no problem with the installation, Sunrun was quick and installed the panel right away.

Now it’s been like 4 months the panels still not activated. I understand that the City has to inspect it yet before the activation. The very sad and frustrating part is I am already starting paying for the loan for three months now even the solars are not working. I’m paying double $500-600 electricity bill plus $106 for the panels. I asked their office if they can at least refund the months that the solar was not working but they refused. So, it’s like they just get the money from the loan provider and not following up if their product is working or not? This company doesn’t care, as long as they get paid from the loan provider that’s it! They don’t call or follow up if the solar already works.

I filled out information at Costco. I was contacted by a sales rep and we talked by telephone, some text messages, and set up an appointment for an in-house preliminary discussion. The guy that came out had a PowerPoint and some written materials. He asked questions and looked at the property, then we set up a follow-up meeting where he would come back with some proposals. I got my wife involved and we listened to the presentation, then we discussed if we wanted to move forward. So, we moved forward with it in June or July. Once we decided, Sunrun took care of the permitting and they came back with a more accurate description of what the equipment was, what the kilowatt output and input would be, then we'd get some savings and some estimates.

Another group came out and measured the house for the equipment to make sure that we were up to code. They looked at the footprint for the installation on the roof and our attic insulation, and then turned it over to their coordinator for installation who set an install date, and then we had to go through our local power company, which is Commonwealth Edison, as they have to then set up their equipment to make sure that our metering is correct, then have to have the final inspection by our local city Highland Park. We waited another couple of weeks for them to come in to make sure that their equipment could be turned on. In the beginning of October, we got it turned on.

There were just a couple of hiccups. When our city inspector came out, he said that the installers should have replaced some particular gauge of wiring because there was a potential that there could be some ramifications of using that other wire gauge. The installers made the corrections right then and everything got done. Now, I look at my bills each month and I see what the output is, I see what the input is, I see that our kilowatt usage has reduced in terms of what we take from the energy company and what we're getting back. Overall, I'm satisfied and I recommend Sunrun.

We had to wait, though, because I was putting a new roof on and I didn't want to put any solar panels on there until I had the new roof. The opportunity came up to have a new roof, then after a bit of convincing, I got my wife to buy into the idea of solar panels. She didn’t like the idea aesthetically of them at first, but we were able to compromise, move some panels around and make it work.

I knew upfront that it could take four to six months to finally get online with the utility company, and it just happened recently. Other than the amount of time that it takes from start to finish to get things online, everything is great. It was a long, drawn out process, and there's a lot of players involved in making it work, but if anything could be done, it would be to shorten the process. The Sunrun installers did a beautiful job and got out here quickly to have the inspection, then the town had to come out and inspect their work. Sunrun also had to work with my power company to figure everything out.

It took a while for the installation to happen. When it happened, it was sudden. The crew took an extra couple of days to finish the installation. I'm just waiting right now for someone to explain the system to me. The person had come in when they did the installation and they just left. I tracked down the company to have it done to me since it's now up and running. Then there was some type of short circuit. I was away for the weekend. I came back and they sent somebody to check it. The person came and he said he had no equipment so there was nothing he could do. I had an electrician come in and change the circuit box. Still now waiting for someone to call me to come in and to check the system out. I just had to set the machine up and I had no clue.

I understand Sunrun is just a company. There's another installation services company. Then there's another company you had to deal with that has to pay this mortgage bill through. To call someone up, it was very easy to talk to the salesperson in the beginning process. Once the system is installed, I couldn’t get ahold of anybody. There are a few numbers you can call and ask questions. No one gets back to you. When you call, there's a bunch of people you can talk to. But there's no one that can really understand the English language that can walk you through things properly. So there's not only a language barrier but also the timeframe for somebody getting back to you if they get back to you.

If I knew this, I wouldn't even choose Sunrun. I’m paying for a system that I don't know how to use properly or what to do. If I could press a button and have them take my entire system back and I go to another company, I would have done that 100 times over. I'm way below dissatisfied with this company. The worst of any service I've ever had.

I am very versed with solar as I had it back in the late 70s and early 80s. I was in Costco one day and I thought that if they were supporting this company, then I'd go and listen because I don't want a mom-and-pop operation that's here today and gone tomorrow. The representative was very nice but like a car salesman. Most people that do solar is a passion and this was more like a business transaction. But the installment crew was totally professional. My favorite was Anna and she always followed up on any single little thing because sometimes I would try to get ahold of someone and it would go several days, and I didn't hear anything. But anytime I reached out to Anna, she was back with me.

Anna told me they were actually on the stock exchange. I called my broker and he went through the history and told me that I'd be fine. I went to the stock exchange and made an investment in Sunrun because of the company. They're also on the Nasdaq and to get there at the level they are, they're not a fly-by-night company.

We had issues when our Sunrun was activated. For some reason, it wasn't catching solar for over a month. So we received an Edison bill and I didn't like that. It was frustrating because when I called in, it seemed like it was my fault or the system's fault and it wasn't Sunrun. I explained to them that this is the reason why we purchased the system. It should be up and running when we activate it. That wasn't the case and so we were going back and forth with the representative.

We had the technician come out and he was great. He did his diagnostic and found that the software was not updated so the meter wasn't reading. It was frustrating because it took a while. I know that Sunrun is short-staffed because of the COVID thing but I purchased solar so that I don't have to have any issues with a big bill. When you purchase a product, it should be running properly and effectively.

Sunrun did a great job. It was super easy process and they communicated very well all along the way. They answered all my questions and I didn't have to do much of anything as far as the permitting process. Everybody that was here was super professional. They were really quick. They looked at how they could install things the best way at my house and they took advantage of that. The install was super clean and there's not a lot of conduit running everywhere. Before going solar, my bill was $180 a month. The first month where the system must have only been a partial use, the bill was $5 and this last month, it was a $56 credit. There's a huge savings. I'm happy.

The sales rep of Sunrun was superlative. We had a couple of snafus on the installation. But they came out and they corrected it. The thing I did not like is that they would clip wire ends and leave them on the ground. I would expect that rather than littering my yard with all these dozens of wire pieces, they would have picked them up and taken them away. They didn't clean up. I'm still finding pieces of green wire in the rocks around the area. So when they clipped it, they should have a bucket when they do that. They just tossed it in there. Also, we have a heavy-duty system. We got two backup batteries and we had changed a lot of circuits because we have a lot of stuff going on. But other than that, the overall experience was fine. We're happy with the total experience.

I was looking for someone that seemed to have stability. If Sunrun was in Costco with a booth, I figured Costco fully vets who they allow to advertise. On top of that, Costco was running an incentive program so that really sealed it for me. The initial person that came out did not make me sign anything but gave me all the information and that worked out. However, I wasn't getting updates at least to what I was wanting. Communication was lacking ‘cause there was a point where I didn't know where I was in the process. No one reached out me. I didn't even know who to call anymore because the sales guy that initiated the process disappeared on me. I shot off a question at some point, but I never heard back. I wanted to go the battery route, but that didn't work out. That was the last thing that I tried to reach out to the sales guy. I asked if we could circle back to the battery discussion but that didn't happen.

At some point, someone sent me a survey on how I was doing. I told them I was really upset ‘cause I didn't know what was going on. After I made known that I wasn't happy, I immediately got contacted and they immediately fixed that problem. Overall, they were very responsive. The owner of the company reached out, and that's pretty amazing. It's really awesome when you have some issues and that person reaches out to you. However, I have seen one bill now where the system has been on for a whole month but I wasn't impressed by the difference. You add your loan to your CPS and it's the same thing. If it's not coming out for less, you're not really saving money anywhere. I'm hoping to be excited later, but I'm definitely not fully psyched right now.

My system ran for a week in the beginning. But then, somebody stole the fuse out of my fuse box. Since then, it has not been working. I got a ticket in and I should have a dude coming by on Friday to look at things, and hopefully, put another fuse in there. There was also some weirdness with the bills. My SDG&E bill was a lot higher than I expected. Then, I checked and was like, “Yeah, that makes sense. ‘Cause, my solar hasn't been working…” So, that’s fine. When I first got introduced to Sunrun, I had Megan and she was phenomenal. She's the one that helped me out throughout the process. What I did not like about the process is having to change out project managers every other month or so. When I would get lost and call them, they wouldn't know and would have to check with someone prior. It was a mess. I got Katrina and she had no idea on some of the information as far as when I was gonna get connected and stuff like that. After that, I got Gracie and she was just lost. I am a very patient individual but every time I would call her, it would go to another representative that would just take messages for her. My frustration came when Gracie would never call me back. At least Katrina would text me or call me back and we were able to communicate.

I was texting Gracie because they were texting me, so I felt that it was okay to text them and ask, “Hey, where are we at in the process, whatever?” She said that there was always a delay on the public service part or a delay on the inspector from Lakewood and stuff like that. She said that public service still has a lot of solar meters to install. I was really behind on when I was gonna get my solar meter. But I called the public service department and they said they had nothing scheduled for me. They didn't even know I had solar installed on my roof. That was a Friday and they came out here on Tuesday to install the meter. When I talked to the technician who came, he said that if I hadn't called, I would have been in limbo because no orders were put in for my address. It was very frustrating with Sunrun. Megan should have been running the whole thing. She knew what was going on.

To this day, I just text her and she's prompt to call me back. When they installed the wiring and the metal that holds the wires and stuff from the breaker box to all the other boxes that they put on the back of my house, they put the bar right underneath my water spigot to turn on and off the water for the lawn. Now I can't get it on because the bar is too thick. I couldn't water my backyard. I talked to Gracie and she said they would get that fixed next year. But then I talked to Megan and she emailed their customer escalation team. She asked for me to receive a credit for the loan payment to have the repair fixed in November.

They cancelled appointment for my panel installation the day before. I had to take my time off from work only to find out at the last minute they had cancelled it.

Few days after, "The engineer" guy came took pictures of my electrical panels, roof, ceilings, supposedly for reinstallation work. He said he will put all info right away, all I have to do from this point is to call customer service for rescheduling. I called one week later, customer service had no clue about any "engineer" etc and asked me to call back. Two weeks later today, still no clue. Useless customer services...I am crying with frustration.. I wonder how a big company cunning their customers to this limit..SAD SAD...If anyone from SUNRUN reading this, please stop laughing at your customers' frustration. Please improve your service.

Enrolling with Sunrun went pretty smoothly but it took a while to get the system installed. Then, there were a couple of times initially that one part of the system would go out. But they would come over and take care of it. The representative that I initially met stuck with me the whole time and any time there was an issue, he took care of it and I’ve been really happy with it. So far, things are going well.

I watched the installation. It was done well. It was very secure. I was impressed with the look of the panels, the way they're anchored to the roof. I'm an engineer. I asked lots of questions and they gave me all the answers. I was perfectly happy with the whole affair. We got a $500 credit. We got a bill, but we haven't paid anything yet.

I’ve been wanting to do solar energy services for years. I liked that Sunrun was working with Costco. Costco offered a rebate and I think if Sunrun is being promoted by Costco, then they had to be a great company because Costco would not associate with a not very good company. Enrolling with Sunrun was very easy and straightforward. They called me on the phone. I talked to them and we started to exchange emails. It was all done remotely. The installation was incredibly fast. They pulled up one day with a truck, got on the roof and boom. It took them three or four hours and it's done. Turning on the system was a problem because they had to wait for authorization from the Colorado energy company, Xcel Energy. It took Xcel Energy a week to notify them that our system can be activated. I was not really happy about that but otherwise, everything went very smoothly.

The system has a small glitch where it's tripping a circuit breaker on the electric panel. It's an easy thing to correct, but it's extremely annoying. What I've heard from Sunrun is that this is very common. That's not very comforting. I would hope that they can figure out some way to work with Xcel Energy or their other utility providers, so that the circuit breaker is not being tripped all the time. Otherwise, it was a lovely experience. I went out and chatted with the people who installed the panels, and they were in the business because they wanted to reduce the carbon footprint of people in the United States. They were really dedicated to this. They weren't just hired help. This is a passion for them. So, I appreciate that.

The enrollment experience with Sunrun was great, but there was a lot of misunderstanding at the end. All the stuff that I was told that was gonna work out didn't work out. It took forever to get my solar panels from the date they said it was going to be done. It took longer to get installed. I kind of figured out the app a little, and I noticed that it had dropped. I wasn't generating anything because I guess there was a problem with the box. I did get a lot of help through the phone to whoever I spoke to for all these issues. But still, with my sales rep, he never got back to me. I had to chase him down to talk to him. It's a bad experience. I have two bills, I have a light bill and I have a solar bill. I'm paying $800 for my light bill plus $200 for my solar bill. I was supposed to save money, but I don't see it. I would tell everybody not to get Sunrun.

Enrolling with Sunrun was a very good experience. They said, “Okay, someone will call you,” and somebody called me. They set up an appointment and said, the installer is gonna come. They also said that they will send people because the house that we bought has a pool and the previous owner had a solar for the pool. And they told us that they needed to get that removed so that they could install the solar for the house. The people came on time.

We really like our solar. If I will do it again, I will still go with Sunrun. They have people who would follow up and they would tell me, “Okay, this is what's going on.” Because from the installation to turning it on, there were gaps because there was another organization that they needed permission from plus Nevada Power Energy needed to do stuff. There was a time when I called and I was told exactly how many days I had to wait.

The rep was awesome and he was very knowledgeable. He looked at our electricity bill and our air conditioner which was on the way out to help gauge how many panels we should put on. He said, “We don't want to overproduce, so let's put on what we think is going to work for you now and then after you replace air conditioner, we'll go ahead and look at your system, see what it's producing, and then go from there.”

The installers were very quick and efficient. Where they installed the system was right next to where my office is and I didn't hear them once. They were very quiet and discreet. It took them five hours and there were no issues. There was some sawdust in the garage where they drilled though. Other than that, our experience with SunRun is going alright. But our electricity bill hasn't gone down as far as I thought it was going to.

I did three units with Sunrun and everything went good. They had to put a new roof on one of the buildings and their roofing company did a very nice job. It was also inexpensive. But I'm having a problem because on one of my units, they made a mistake on the address. They had to reapply with the city and with PG&E, and it delayed it a couple of months. My tenants went to Israel on the 20th last month and before they left, I'm not sure if they got hooked up for autopay. I called Sunrun and asked if they were hooked up for autopay. The rep called and tried to do it but he said he wasn't able to because it had my email address. Somebody else told me it is already set up for autopay so I called in yesterday, but because I wasn't the tenant and the person that's paying it, they wouldn't even tell me if it was on autopay. But Denny, my salesperson, was very helpful. In fact, I referred somebody else and he's just put a deal together for him. That's the fourth referral I've done.

I signed a lease agreement on 06/30/2020 where it clearly states that installation and utility interconnection will be completed within 60-120 days following the execution of the agreement. As of today, Nov. 16, 2021, our interconnection application has failed, and permitting has been denied.

The county code department overseeing our project confirmed that the Sunrun engineers/architects have failed to submit additional documents requested on July 2021. We have written many emails to our project coordinator Joseph ** and called him many times over the past several months with no response or action toward resolving our interconnection/permitting issues. We have made many calls to customer service with no resolve and no consistent attention to this problem. Everyone just keeps passing the ball.

We'd like to proceed with a cancellation of our agreement and have this contract dissolve but they refuse, taking no responsibility in this matter and binding us to an agreement they have violated themselves. I have yet to hear from a supervisor or executive to help in this matter, no resolve as of Nov 16th 2021. Sunrun overpromises and underdelivers. Part of the process of shopping for solar is to see how much electrical production each company will deliver and at what price. Sunrun promised that my solar panels would produce a certain level of electricity for a certain amount of money that was less expensive than other providers.

Well, that sure is easy to do when their promises don't represent reality. They didn't come anywhere close to the promised level of electricity production. Then, they promised that they would "make a financial adjustment" to make up for their underproduction. I have it in writing. Gee, guess what? They welched on that, too. What a surprise. They're a totally untrustworthy company.

It didn't matter to me if I have a premium panel up there as long as the warranty covered the panels. It was also important that Sunrun has their own people for installation. However, we ended up having somebody else get involved in some of the installation. There were some issues but Sunrun stayed on top of it. Things get screwed up but how the screw-ups are handled is important and Sunrun did well handling the screw-ups. We thought it was gonna be August that we would produce our own energy but things got delayed as far as turning it on. It was September so we ended up paying a double bill. We paid our solar bill, and we also had to pay the SDG&E bill. Also, Sunrun sells through Costco and if I had done a little bit more homework, I could have gotten a Costco credit.
