We've been looking at solar energy for a long time. We got a rooftop array two years ago but it was woefully inadequate and the people who put it in didn’t really know what they were doing. My son looked at it and got his put in by Alder Energy. Dividend Solar was their finance partner. I was looking at them since then because he's having a really good luck with it and he gave me some good reviews about it. So I contacted Alder and they came in and went through the whole system with me including enrolling with Dividend Solar.
Everything I've had to do with Dividend Solar has been outstanding. They're very responsive and quick. They're also friendly and easy to work with. I started with them in the fall and filled out the paperwork before the 1st of the year. Then we were waiting for the connection with Duke Power. After they did that on the 17th of March, everything started cooking and that’s where we are now. I'm extremely happy with Dividend Solar. I highly recommend them.

Because of high electrical bills, I was looking for different solar panel options on the internet and selected Alba Energy. Then they connected us with Dividend Solar. Enrolling with Dividend Solar was a pretty straightforward process. The approval was done online. As for the solar panels, we had the Alba Energy engineer come out and look at the property and determine where to place the solar panels so that they are exposed to the sun at least eight hours of the day. He made a plan, we looked at it and approved it, and then we ordered the solar panels. And that came in three weeks later. The install took about two weeks and then we're up and going.
I'm quite satisfied with my decision to go solar. The first month was not a complete month, but we saw almost a 50 percent reduction in our bill. It's a 20-year investment. But in the long run, it does pay off knowing that I'm generating electricity and reducing my electric bill. I would recommend Dividend Solar to friends. It was an exciting experience. It didn't happen in one day and one has to be patient. But once it's up, it's very satisfying to see that I'm in a green instead of red as far as the energy consumption goes.

The payments made are solely for interest and the principal never gets paid down. The interest rate is very high compared to present low rates. While the panels were purchased on the basis of my current electric payments (about $150 per month) that is now the INTEREST each month on this very bad loan. 6.49%. For the first 16 months, interest only is the monthly payment. Very deceptive.

I was talking to a friend who had solar at his house and I gathered some details about his solar system and that's how I thought I should get my own. At the time, we were working with Trinity and Trinity introduced us to Dividend Solar so we went with them. Enrolling with Dividend Solar was smooth. It was not a big deal and it was simple. They walked me through the process, but I have a few questions about tax filing and stuff for that. My usage just started so I have to wait and watch how it works out for me but so far, so good. I will recommend Dividend to others.

I had been thinking about looking into solar energy services for 20 years. I enrolled with Dividend Solar and it was a great and seamless process. It was all electronic where my information was taken and they made it happen. It was interesting, though, because I got an email from Dividend saying that I wouldn’t see a bill until I saw power coming back off my bill and I have a bill right now that’s outstanding. Earlier today, I emailed my guy Brent at Trinity, and I asked him if I should pay this bill or not because I haven’t seen the returns yet. Otherwise, it's been easy and good so far.

Their enrollment process was totally easy and I like their little solar online portal where I can manage my usage and my loan.

Dividend put our solar panels on and I got to know them through Alba Energy. We live in San Antonio, Texas and have lots of sun and great southern exposure, and in the summertime, a high electrical bill. We wanted to explore it and I had three different companies give us these talks and Alba seemed to be the most appropriate. We installed the panels in January and then I called them because I didn't see a payment drawn on the bank. They said that until CPS hooks up and it actually starts generating electricity, I wouldn't see a draw on the account. So, they were very helpful.

We were with another company but they were just humming and harring and nothing ever seemed to get done. Then they went bankrupt. Once Dividend Solar took over, we were switched on and we started to get energy. We felt good about it. And it's only in the last few months that we've been getting energy because that’s how long it seemed to take to get the other company out.
Our solar energy service is working pretty well. I just took a look at the last PG&E bill and it was about $10. So the solar energy service is working very efficiently because we get hot water all the time. We also have a little iPhone app which I am really impressed with. And we got that from Dividend as well. They said it was a way to track and know that our system is working right. I just tap on the iPhone and it gives me the peaks and the lows, the number of kilowatts that I'm generating in a day, etc. I'm very satisfied now, especially with the bill. I would definitely recommend Dividend Solar. In fact, I was recommending Dividend to my brother because he's trying to heat his house with other alternatives and it's costing a fortune.

A whole bunch of them from Dividend Solar were calling me up for some reason. Then I talked to one of the guys and told him to cut to the chase and asked him certain questions. He was right to the point and I asked him to come over. The guy that came out was real good. He was friendly and he didn't blow out a lot of stuff at me. It only took him over about a half an hour to two hours and then I signed the papers. Also, every time I would call them they've been right there on the spot. I'm a business owner so for me, they handled the conversations and the people as I would have been the owner.
However, I haven't made a nickel on it yet. I'm waiting for them to finally tell me to give them a reading soon. They have to wait for six to 8 weeks since they installed it and expect it's been out in business. So I'll set a bank account and find out after a while what it made gross and what I'm paying. They draw in the monthly out of me for $157, but I want to see at the end of the year what I paid plus what I gained.

Their system is producing the kilowatt hours faster than I thought it was going to. So far, I've got one deposit in my bank account for around $20 and $60 off my energy bill but it's produced over $300. Once I see that I’m getting what I think I should be getting, then I’ll be happy with it. I would recommend Dividend.

I've been in education my entire career and I felt that we needed to leave a footprint when we leave this place that isn't detrimental to our environment. Dividend Solar was one of the few companies that would put a ground mount in plus they have a very good site and I know we're producing quite a bit of electricity. The process of enrolling with Dividend Solar was initially very easy but then there was a hiccup in the middle where they were dyed in the wool in regards to putting it on my roof. I didn't want 500 holes in my roof even though they said that they would seal them. I didn't wanna take that chance and I've got a number of acres in the back, so we were able to convince them that I wanted the largest ground mount system that they could put in Massachusetts, which is what I have.
From what I'm seeing in the past couple of electric bills that we've had, they seemed to be going down quite drastically. So I'm pleased in that portion of it. But I've purchased my panels, so I'm looking to recoup the SRECs and hopefully, come this fall, I should be able to recoup some money in regards to that. Also, they had to update my panel because there weren't enough slots to do what I wanna do in the future. So, they came in and put in a brand new electric panel. It was a very expensive and good panel. They did a great job with that. I would say that I'm happy thus far and I'll be happier when I see the returns on my SRECs. But I'm already recommending Dividend Solar to people.

Solar energy being an alternative to fossil fuels, it seemed like going solar was a logical thing to do, and we are satisfied with our decision. It’s like a new toy where we check the meter almost every day. Every time we go outside we check to see what the kilowatt hours is up to. We enrolled online, and it went very smoothly. The only thing that happened, which was mainly me, was when Dividend Solar wanted to confirm that the link to our credit union was correct. I wasn’t initially aware of the fact that I had to report to them how much they had taken out of the checking account because we were trying to figure out when we could pay or send in the federal rebate. But once I realized I had to confirm that, the withdrawal went through and everything else seemed to fall into place. So now we’re waiting and we’ve put our rebate into the portal. I also wanted to know if there's any way to pay it before the date.

A company that I used in San Diego ended up using Dividend Solar, therefore, I had to use them. Everything went well. However, when they first installed the system I was confused because it looked like they were putting another entire meter in my garage. The install guy explained to me that since I'm not buying the house, the lease companies require this kind of a monitoring system. But I told him that I did buy the house and I'm not leasing it. He then asked if I was using Dividend for financing. I said yes and he said that they demand it as well.
But I found out that for the first week and a half, the system wasn't operational because it was conflicting with everything else that was going on. They had to come out, tear out all that work and replace it all because it was obviously wrong. According to my sun power monitoring system, I collected a lot of energy that went nowhere for a week and a half. But it was an honest mistake and they took care of it as soon as they figured out what was wrong. I'm happy they fixed it quickly. We're up and running and we had our best day yesterday.

Unfortunately, my salesman did not have the knowledge that I was looking for. But I ended up still getting it from them, because it’d be this guy or another guy, and I was gonna buy solar anyway.
I originally started with one location, and they installed the panels. Then we went for the other location, and that got turned on before the first location. Since I have two locations, they always kept confusing the locations. They were calling me about one, and it happened that whatever they were talking about was being done on the other one. I had a little trouble understanding what location they were referring to cause both of the locations were installed more of about the same time. But one location was barely turned on after six months. I wasn’t depending on it and it didn’t make a difference if it lasted a year for the service to be on. And I've been very impressed with the Dividend Solar website because it has been so easy to enroll. Moreover, their reps have always been quick to help. I've only received two bills from Empire District Electric Company so far and they've both been credits. And so we're definitely drawing more power than we needed at this time of the year and our bill for the panels is $46 a month cheaper than our bill for Empire was before. So I'm thrilled but we'll see in the winter if I'm still thrilled. So far, it's been awesome and fantastic. We were looking into solar energy services and about it beforehand, so when we finally decided to go solar, we're extremely satisfied. So far, Dividend Solar has been fine. Enrolling was pretty easy. We had an issue with getting the installation. We had a tree that needed cut down and they told us that we had to have it cut down by November. We got that cut down in October. Then, they were supposed to call to let us know when they will be able to install it because of their schedule. However, I had to call every single month and they kept telling me that it wasn't ready. They weren't ready to install yet for whatever reason and it wasn't until, I think, March that I got it installed.
Then, it was January when I finally talked to someone and they said, "Oh, we're waiting on you to remove your tree," and very hateful about it. I told them that it had been removed in October and then they forwarded me on to somebody else. And then he demanded that I get it scheduled on a certain day because that was their only available time. That was while I was at work. So, Missouri Sun Solar came to my work and got my garage door opener. I had an issue with them opening my house and letting my alarm go off. They wouldn't give me a reason as to why they went into my house. I had just moved into the neighborhood and my electric bill was extremely high so I started to look into solar panels. I came from The Valley and it was so much cheaper than CPS here in San Antonio. I then noticed a lot of neighbors were getting the solar panels. The gentleman, David, happened to be one of the representatives that knocked on my door. I listened to him and to several others, but I liked what he had to offer and went with Dividend Solar. The process took a little longer than what I anticipated but I was really okay with it. It allowed time for my income tax refund to come back and get the extra 30% federal incentive rebate. They put the panels on December 31st and were turned on in the middle of April. It was still cool and I wasn’t really using a lot of electricity during those months.
Then the representatives did an inspection on the roof yesterday. I’m a little upset right now because they left my gate open and my dog got out and she’s lost. I’ve put her on the neighborhood watch. I reached out to the person that told me about the appointment and he was very apologetic and offered $100 reward. But the dog was $500. She was in the family for six years and she’s a white Miniature Schnauzer. They also kept having trouble passing all the inspections like the HOA and the city inspection. There were things that Dividend had to go back and redo. Other than that, it’s been okay and I’m extremely satisfied. We had a couple of hail storms and it seemed like the solar panels are holding up fairly well. I reported the hail damage to my insurance and they’re having someone come and inspect it next week. So I might be contacting them to see about removing and putting the panels back up, if our new roof is installed.

A guy was walking through the neighborhood trying to sell solar energy and knocked on my door. I had already been looking into solar energy and was just trying to find the right company to go with and the biggest thing that sold me about Dividend was the fact that they have a branch devoted to the ‘solar power loans’ (Dividend Solar EmpowerLoan) and there was no money out of my pocket from the beginning. I didn’t have to even start the loan or sign up for the loan until I was up and connected. I'm very satisfied with this decision so far.
The enrolling experience was great but I just wish they had a better working relationship with the local power company, CPS, because there was a long delay in me getting connected. That wasn’t their fault though as it had to do with CPS getting me on the grid. The customer service has been very helpful in getting everything clear and understood. I’ve had a couple of interactions with them because of the delays and when the loan started as well as payments were due. We all understood delays happen when having to deal with a third party. But the company that they’re working with is really good, so I have been very happy and it worked out very well. I'd definitely recommend Divided and I already have.

Dividend Solar was very good, but the contractor was not a good experience. They damaged my roof when they did the installation. They drilled holes in my roof then left them. The rain came and I literally had rain coming through it. There was no support from them other than they did come back and make things work. They also lied to me about how installation was going to be. They said they were going to take out the old panel and replace it with a new one. They sort of did. They left the old panel but replaced it with a new one next to it. It's redundant to have a 40-year old panel that they could’ve just torn off the wall. It's a little more work but in the end result, they'd have a happier customer because that’s what I asked them and what they said they were going to do. I didn’t get it in writing, but got it verbally over the phone. I had to take the panels back down and then put them back up.
The people that they had were not qualified to be doing the work that they were doing. They were working things dangerously and their means and methods were terrible. One of their men had no safety glasses on and got no clue what he’s doing. They also shorted out a panel in front of me. They said they'll have to jump the meter so I can have electricity for the night and bring it back to Home Depot. I told them I'll see what’s going on and I had to troubleshoot them and tell them what they did wrong. It’s not what I paid for. I’m an electrical contractor and could’ve done it myself. They also didn’t give me the system they promised me, like I could have a means of adding a battery pack to the system at a later date, the transfer switch and everything else.
I asked Dividend Solar about roof insurance, which they brushed me off. I’m at odds with going after them for money for the damage they did to the roof. I’m still bouncing around in my head whether I want to take them to court for the damages and the misrepresentation. I requested them to contact me and they did not. It’s one thing I am not happy with. As far as the loan and the process, I was very happy with the way it all went down. But following through and protecting their customer against the installer, they didn’t follow through with that. I’m glad that it’s all done and over with. At least the system is working now.

During enrollment, we had some issues getting the paperwork done and also a few issues with our building since we bought a building for ours to go on. We've gotten that taken care of. However, they need to have their installers a little bit more knowledgeable about what they need to tell people and to make sure that their building people are good. Still, it has been a pretty good experience.

When Vision Solar came around and they were affordable through Dividend Solar, I decided to do it too. It was off to a slow start but now that they’re installed, I’ve been really happy with how they’ve been producing. Also, I like their web interaction where there is a portal that I can go in to check on the daily output of the system. I also like to check it on cloudy days versus sunny days. With a monthly budget plan, we're usually paying about $285 a month on our electric bill, which was so high, so we looked into solar energy services. This person who had installed our security system – the monitoring, the computer access, and our phone access - had to come back and fix it because we changed internet providers. He told us about how he was installing the solar panels. That was something we had been interested in but we weren’t thinking about looking into it for a while. He said the installation and the equipment would be free and we would just be paying for the monthly service for 20 years for $204, and we thought that it would be good for us because we’ll be saving some money.
Dividend Solar kept me informed as to what was happening and why there was a delay. First, we had to put it off because we had some damage to our roof that we had to get taken care of first. We notified the solar company, and they installed the panels after that was done. They finally hooked it up to the electric grid, so last month, we had the bill that was about half a month and it was good. This month, we got the first whole bill, which was $204 but we had a little bit of money left over in electric bills.
Their customer service has been really good when I had to ask questions or when they contacted me monthly to let me know what’s going on. They didn’t leave me wondering. There’s one part of the contract where the bill is a large amount, so I asked about that. My system was installed by the end of last year, and they’re going to push back that amount of money. When we get money from a cash write-off, then, we’ll pay it towards Dividend. Additionally, a person I know said she has been planning on getting Dividend but she just wanted to get somebody else’s input, so when she called me and asked questions about the system, I told her that I would recommend it to anyone.

I had no issues with Dividend Solar during enrollment. The only issue I had was getting hooked up. The system was installed in October and it finally got in operation on 21st of March. Vision Solar didn’t have one meter in place so they had to rebook and to me, that was a joke. Six months was ridiculous. I’ve only got two bills since the system has been up and running. I definitely see the advantage but it hasn't been running enough to be able to bank enough electricity yet.
The first month, my power bill is $25. It was in operation for 21 out of the 29 days. This month, my bill was $55 in electricity but it was a full month of running and I’ve also got the AC running 24/7 and we had a bunch of rainy days so it wasn’t making as much. I’m keeping track of the meter readings along with the CPS to see if they took the right meter reading because I got three meters on there. But still, $55 is not bad to have a 3200 square foot house with air conditioning running 24/7. Last year, I was paying an average of $180.

There's absolutely zero financial incentive from any of my electric companies and I wanted to make a difference. I decided to look into solar energy services and went to Dividend Solar. I'm technologically savvy, so all other stuff online when enrolling with them was not a problem, although my mom would probably have been freaking out trying to do everything online. Right now, it's performing a bit under what I expected. I thought of having 80 kilowatts a day, but I'm only getting about 60 since it would not stop raining and there hasn't been a ton of sunshine. I live in South Texas so I can't complain about rain too much, but it'll be good to see what it's really gonna do once summer gets here and spring goes away.
Their customer service reps have been very courteous and responsive. I had to call them a lot because my electric company does nothing with solar and it was a pain dealing between the two. They've been very helpful anytime that I've talked to them. I've had so much irritation from my power company that it gets wrapped up in all of it. It works better within a big city and a big electric company, but it's a real pain to work with a small country electric company. But my experience with Dividend Solar has been good so far. I'm retired, trying to cut down on bills and it seems like solar energy services might help out. I haven't received my first bill yet and it does take about two or three billing cycles for everything to fall into place. The bill is lower but not as low as predicted yet. Solar is a very difficult system and is fairly new in our area. Dividend's sign-up process took much too long and it took time for them to activate me. I was away on business and I got called by Dividend telling me they would be in to replace the meters. I had my son come unlock the gate but they hadn't arrived. When I called Dividend, they said they did and finished the job. Then when they did some checking they realized they hadn't. But at the end of the day, it was all done. I had to call them back once about one of the panels that was not on the roof correctly and they repaired that after several trips back.
Customer service was perfect. They were not rude. Every time I called they were very apologetic. Everyone that I've dealt with has been super polite. However, there were a lot of situations where one person would tell one thing and then it hadn't happened and then another one was telling me something else. Also, no one could tell me how to read the meter. They sent a supervisor that had to come back to tell me how. In that respect, I would strongly recommend that when Dividend Solar finally gets the system going, they should have somebody that could answer the questions for the client.

I then decided I wasn't interested in investing my own funds at a company that wouldn't get back to me. But as far as the nuts and bolts of getting things done, it was strange that it took me so long also after I got interconnected that I was gonna access their website and that the payments began. When somebody did get back to me finally or I called and somebody answered and said that, "Well, that was basically the problem because of the installer."

Vision Solar was the company that Dividend partnered with to install the solar panels. They put a flyer on my front door and the flyer made it sound like you could get a solar panel subsidized at literally no cost, so that hooked me in. But after hearing the discussion and learning that I have to pay for part of it, it was still worth it with the potential value added to a home.
However, the process of getting it installed was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had as a customer. It was horrible. It took them about six months longer than was anticipated to get them installed. And they didn’t disclose initially until I went to sign a contract that I had to pay a share equal to my tax credit directly to Dividend Solar to buy into the equity by November of this year.
Dividend has been unwilling to push that to the right time frame equal to the amount that I had to wait for the solar panels to be turned on. They got turned on in late March, and the installation was done in November. So I couldn’t make payments until April, and I have to pay them $4000 by November. That was very inconvenient.
Six weeks ago, somebody was supposed to call me back or email me and I was confused if it were from Vision or Dividend at that time when I was still waiting for the solar panels to get turned on. I brought it up with somebody at Dividend who called me, and they basically acted like there was no knowledge of that and that the discussion never happened. I never got a response.
And I found out that the equity line period was not going to be moved. It was unfair that they would be willing to move it to February of 2017 where I’d have to pay the equity by because I couldn’t start trying to make payments until they turned the solar panels on. In December I had that discussion with the individual from Vision Solar who told me that it was approved or it was some sort of agreement with Dividend, that they would move that deadline to the future by a few months.
When I brought it up, I kept being told, “Well, you signed a contract that says...” It was like, “Really, you’re gonna say that?” Ultimately this is my responsibility, but I was under the auspice that the installation would be done in a timely manner but it wasn’t. I also did some of the leg work that Vision Solar should've done, so I feel like they should pay me some money because I’m the one who scheduled the inspection with CPS. It took me calling the city of San Antonio to get the inspection done so I could get my panels turned on.
When people ask me about my solar panels, I tell them I’m glad I did it because it’s a good investment. However, if they’re going to do it, don’t use Vision Solar and Dividend Solar. I specifically steer them away from this company because of the experience I had. When I go to build my new house and put solar panels on it, I’m going to a competitor to get that done in the future. The problem probably stems from Vision Solar and their lack of communication. If I could recommend anything to Dividend Solar as a company, I would cut all ties with Vision Solar. Vision wasn't prepared to handle the demand of the market here in San Antonio with all the installations they scheduled. The people they were servicing couldn’t get their equipment installed and turned on within the reasonable amount of time.
However, I am seeing a noticeable difference in my power bill. The product that was sold was doing what I was told it was going to do. We’ve even had a couple of hailstorms and luckily my house didn’t get hit too hard. The solar panels aren’t damaged. Overall, I’m very happy that I did it. It saved me a lot of money on my taxes. It’s a $4000 tax credit so it was nice. I'm disappointed in the service.

We looked at going solar as a way to save money on our electric bill and also to be good stewards of the Earth. Enrollment with Dividend was easy. They looked at my house, measured and figured out how many solar panels we could use. They also told me that we'd want to generate a certain amount because once we go over 1,000 kW within the monthly period for our electric bill, the rate goes up. We'd want to offset that amount.
However, I was frustrated with getting the system installed. There was a lack of communication between Dividend Solar and the installation company they contracted with, Duke Electric. Duke Electric was not informed about the system being ready to be connected to the grid. Too many people were involved and there was a breakdown every step of the way in the communication process.
It took almost four or five months before installation took place. We had an installation date set, so I took the day off work, but no one showed up. The next day, I called and they said that they didn't have access to the parts and that somebody will call me tomorrow. A week later, they got ahold of me and said that there was a mix-up in scheduling. Several weeks later, finally, we got it scheduled and they came, did half the work and said they would be back the next day to finish, but didn't come back until the following week.
For about two weeks, the system has been up and running but is under-performing. I called in and on Sunday, somebody came out and turned the unit off. I called again and no one knows who turned all the breakers and the converter box off. Now, a gentleman has turned it on and is trying to figure out what's going on. If I had not initiated the conversation about someone turning off my unit and the system not working properly, I don't think anybody would have contacted me. It was a negative experience with Dividend Solar all around. At this point, the system’s not operating correctly.

We dealt with Trinity Solar for putting in the panels and they put us on to Dividend for financing the panels. Solar energy is something we’ve been interested in for quite a while. We did it on another house that we owned but it was Trinity that we got the system set up through then. They were easy to deal with and then they put us on to Dividend.
We had a slight problem with paperwork because I’ve been dealing with it but my wife shows on the paperwork as the trustee in the trust that owns the property. So, we had to go back and forth a couple of times but things got sorted out last November. However, from November until a month ago, everything was at a standstill because Dividend never got the meter. They only got the meter and put it in within the past month. Therefore, we were generating some energy all winter long and because Dividend didn’t have the meter in, we didn’t get any credit for it. Dividend certainly dropped the ball. So, our experience with them was just satisfactory.

I've been an environmental nut for 50 years. I wanted to make clean energy, so that if enough of us do that maybe we can take out one of our old coal fired plants. Then I heard about Dividend Solar through Vision Solar saying, "This is the way we finance our equipment." The thing I like about Vision and Dividend is that they've kept me informed whenever needed. So I've never had any questions. It took a long time to get going, but it's been a very easy experience and process including enrolling with Dividend. I'm totally satisfied and have been very pleased going solar. I like looking out there and seeing the little arrow pointing to the energy company that the power is going back to the energy company.

We're very satisfied going solar. My husband was tired of paying a $400 a month electric bill when we had our air-conditioners going. Right now, we have a credit of $50.88 with our electric company. I haven’t owed them anything for three months, which is fantastic. It's also very easy enrolling with Dividend Solar and everything was really smooth. We were supposed to start having the bill automatically taken out of our account last August and I’m waiting. Finally, January rolls around, so I called them. The gentleman was helpful and then he texted me, said that it’s up to our electric company to send me information and told me to wait and see. So we waited and then finally we’re with SREC. This is where they monitor us. Once we’re online with them, then Dividend Solar starts to send our payment. They didn't take the whole payment out but automatically took partial payments only.
My husband told me to wash my clothes during the day but we have 91 and 93 percent of sun, so we’re really satisfied with that. The people at Trinity Solar have been wonderful and they said they'd change our meter with no charge. In the winter time I can understand where the panels don’t get much of the sun plus snow on it but other than that, we’re very happy with the service.

We discussed all the questions that we had and it was great. Their rep made it easy for us to understand. In one of the questions that I had about the solar, he really laid it out for us and was able to explain where we could understand it. Now we can turn on the air conditioner, run more things, and not have the bill be so high. We're super satisfied.

The enrollment with Dividend was fairly easy. I have two levels on my roof. Half of my house is two-story and half of it is ranch-style, so there’s a bank of panels on the back of the ranch and then there’s some I sat on top of the barn. There’s metal piping that they put in as a conduit to get the wiring from the ones on top down to the ones on bottom, so it all fed into the same meter. I was on the phone with somebody from Vision the next day, asking how happy I was with it. I was like, “It’d be nice if they could’ve brought some spray paint to try to match the roof or hide it a little better.” And they’re like, “Absolutely. We’ll send somebody out tomorrow.” And I came down from work the next day and it was done. They worked real fast and customer service was good in getting all the little stuff done. Everything was taken care of on the same day.
However, I could see that there's a rapid expansion happening and people weren’t completely familiar with the process on their end. And I would get calls from different people in the same day. One day I got three calls from three different people at Dividend telling me that “This had happened, for now we’re doing this” or “You need to get this signed”. And I’m like, “Yeah, I just spoke to somebody else 20 minutes ago, and they have told me that.” New people doing a new job aren’t completely fluid with it yet, but I’m sure by the time that feedback gets to them that wouldn’t be an issue anymore.

I talked to a friend at work that had solar energy services and SunSolar arranged for the financing with Dividend Solar. Signing up with them was all done through emails. I've only been with them for two months but I'm happy with it so far. I had two electric bills and since then, they are $12 and a few cents. I've also gotten $63 in credit already billed up, so I'm not dissatisfied with them at all. However, I don't know if I can pay online. I always pay my stuff online and they wanted to do that automatic debit and I didn't want that because what if something come up like an emergency and I'm going to be a few days late. They'd have drawn the money out and I won't have the money to take care of my emergency.
Also, I talked to a guy from there because I was curious when my payments were going to start and he didn't notify me that my stuff was on the way and that I'd have payment due the 17th of the month. In fact, they never did notify me through phone or email about it. He said, "Well, we're still waiting on some stuff from SunSolar. Once we get that one, we will notify you." But I waited and waited for over a month and I never heard from them. Then I got this letter the other day saying my payment was due in about three days. It was generated on the 3rd or 5th, mailed out on the 9th, I got it on the 12th and it's due on the 17th. So there is no turnaround time here. But I wrote a check, put it in the mail and had no idea where it went. And that was the only drawback I had.

I can't get that done until I get back, and they changed the due date so when I get back, I can deal with it. In the meantime, everything has been nice.
My experience is not like most of the people because the guy who ended up doing the installation is the son of one of the people that I work with. She's a nurse, and I'm a physician, and he's her son so that’s going to change our whole dynamic. The only thing I was upset about was that I asked the price to remove panels, restore them, and reset them if I got a new roof since I was thinking about putting a metal roof around the house. I’ve always been intrigued with solar power. Even at a young age, I always said if ever own a house, I would try to purchase or build my own. I ran into one of Dividend's sales rep making the pitch to the public in a show. They went out of their way to make the purchase and the transition as easy as possible. If they can’t answer the question, they’ll find somebody who can or call me back. During the initial face of the construction, I would receive calls explaining the status of the installation.
The only dislike that I have is the web interface that I used to view the production of my solar panels. That’s a remote entity and I would like to be able to connect to the equipment directly instead of having to go through third party web services. Also, a downside is the interest rate on the loan and some of the fine print that I ended up finding out post installation. I’m happy but I’m trying to figure out how it impacts me overall. We haven’t had enough data to see how it affects our monthly bill and what the value is as an overall entity.

There was some confusion since I was working with three different companies. I started off with eSolar, signed the paperwork with them, and then I never heard from them again. Then came the installation company which is again a different company. They handled everything during the installation process and then handed me off to Dividend. eSolar called and asked me if I was interested in solar panels. They have been something I've been looking into for quite a while. I was with Xcel but they gobble the rates during summertime. My bills were getting outrageous during this time because of high peak usage.
That was one of the main reasons why I started looking into solar energy. eSolar came and gave me the deal. All I had to do was sign some paperwork and I got the solar panels. I just started paying them instead of Xcel and I'm happy about my decision to go solar. I'm fairly happy now that the solar panels are up and running. The quality of work is fairly good.
However, the communication part during installation was incredibly frustrating. We set up a time for someone to look at our house. He told me they would do some shop drawings and get back to me for approval. The owner of the installation company told me that I didn't really need to approve their drawings because most people don't understand what's going on with it. I insisted though since I'm the homeowner and I know more about how the house works than they do. A couple of months passed but I never heard from the guy. All of a sudden however, as I was leaving for work, a crew showed up to set up the solar panels. I did not expect it and they sat there for a little bit. They had shop drawings but they didn't have a permit. One guy said they weren't going to hook anything up, just set the panels on my garage.
I gave them the ok as long as they don't get in the backyard since I have dogs - I didn't want to be responsible for the dogs biting crew or them letting the dogs out. When I called about 3:00 that afternoon, I found out that they have let my dogs out since they had to get in the backyard. I had a blow-up session with them on that. After that though, they were good about telling me what was going on. They also finally got a permit on the job site, although they did start installation without posting a permit which the installer company said their people wouldn't do.
Next, they sent a guy out to get the meters installed. It was upsetting because he didn't call to tell me he was coming - he arrived as I was about to leave and running late. Nevertheless, I told him to do it quickly and got that part taken care of. Then another company they hired came to install a meter when my daughter was home for lunch. The guy was rushing her about the installation when my daughter was leaving as well. Once again, I never even knew they were coming or that this was happening. I ended up having to call and make an appointment with a subcontractor for Xcel to come out and set the meter. This time, they were early for the appointment so I wasn't there once again.
As far as it all goes, they put three meters, which wasn't on the job plan. Moreover, we had a position setup for where the meter bank was going to go but they completely moved it without ever clariying that with me. It went nuts. So right now, the first thing to be seen when one looks from my back door and the back windows is the solar panel setup.

My loan agreement included handing over my utility company rebate and tax rebate. Until my tax rebate hits in 2017, I will be paying an "incentive payment". This incentive payment is an interest only payment and which means I'll be giving Dividend Solar an additional $1200 on top of my loan amount.
Hi Bert,
Thanks for your feedback. We always welcome customer feedback and the opportunity to better serve you. In this case, it appears there is some misunderstanding as to the terms of the loan agreement you signed with us. We'd be happy to clarify those terms.
As both your loan agreement and the plain English one-page summary you received and signed with your loan outline, your loan is interest-only for the first 15 months or until you make the Incentive Investment payment, which is due by month 16 of your loan. The Incentive Investment payment is an amount equal to 30% of your loan amount and meant to mirror the 30% federal tax credit that you may be eligible to receive. This is money you would otherwise owe the federal government in taxes that you're now using to own your solar system. This payment goes entirely towards principal and therefore saves you money (less interest!) over time. Our loan has no prepayment penalties, so you're welcome to pay the Incentive Investment payment at any time if you wish to end the interest-only period of your loan. We encourage you to read your loan and Loan Summary again.
Your loan is a $0-down loan. In your area, your utility offers a great upfront rebate, which amounted to over $10,000 in your case. You passed this rebate along to your solar installer to reduce the upfront cost of your system and lower the amount that you needed to finance, which is the common practice for all markets where a utility company offers an upfront rebate. This rebate reduced your system cost by over $10,000, providing you with significant benefit out of the gate.
Transparency is one of the pillars of our company, and we do want to apologize if you did not fully understand all of the terms of your loan. We aim to make the terms as clear as possible, which is why we developed the one-page Loan Summary specifically to give you a clear, plain English guide to your loan. We require all of our customers to specifically initial this document in an attempt to eliminate any confusion. It is extremely important that all of our homeowners carefully read their loan agreement and the one-page Loan Summary, which you signed and initialed in several places, to confirm your understanding of the terms.
We plan to follow-up with you with a phone call and look forward to talking to you then.

Instead of installing the micro-inverters, they decided to install the single inverter. I talked to the new contractor and he said that the single inverter was cheaper. I was interested in solar shingles because I wanted to put them all over my house but they’re expensive. The way Oscar explained it is, once I start paying for my panels, I don’t have to pay for my power bill anymore. That never really crossed my mind until he brought it up because my biggest concern was I didn’t want to be paying for solar panels and power bills at the same time. As soon as he said that, it clicked in my head and thought it was a good idea.
Our panels are having some problems though. They had a tech come out on Friday and said that a couple of our panels aren’t hooked up so we’ve been on for about a month and a half and have been underproducing. But I’m satisfied with the product. I’m ready for it to be fully working so I can see what the full benefit would be. I have already recommended Dividend Solar to people.

Solarize SC had an outreach campaign in South Carolina. We got hooked up with Sunstore, which is a local vendor around here for Filipinos. They told us about what we could have as far as a system on our house, and it sounded good. The price worked out well with the Duke Energy rebate that we're being offered and some of our state tax has been financed, so we decided to take Dividend Solar. My husband handled most of the enrollment process and he didn't had any problems. We're glad that that financing option was in place because we couldn’t have done it otherwise to install this solar energy system.

Getting solar energy looked liked a good investment. My installation (50 panels) was about $43,000 and there was a 30% tax credit off the federal tax bill and 25% off the South Carolina tax bill. That brings my actual cost down about $19,000. And now, the electricity I will produce looks like it will be $400 worth of electricity a month. It's producing on the average, right now, 90 kilowatt-hours per day and that's what they told me it would produce with Alder Energy which pays my electric and gas bill. I also got a credit from SCE&G. I went on the grid on March 15th, but after just 15 days when the March bill came in, I made enough electricity to cover my entire March electric and gas bill with $2 extra. So from now on, I expect my credit will be at least a $100 to $200 a month above my electric and gas bill. So the return on the investment is better than any stocks, or bonds, or money accounts.
And then also, there's the environmental aspect. Each panel produces electricity equivalent to 100 pounds of coal a year. The only thing that I'm not happy with is the interest rate. They charge us 6.5% and that's a little high right now. My home mortgage interest rate is just 3.5%. I'm thinking of paying off the loan to Dividend Solar before the end of the year and put that on a home equity loan, which I have in just a little over 2%. So if Dividend Solar wants to keep my business, they would have to come down on their interest rate.

I have the portal set up with Dividend Solar. So far, it seems good. I'm generating 667 kilowatts since March 8th when I turned it on. Austin Energy had a mix-up on it. My first bill came back as a shock. It said I owed them $7,500 and I used 50,000 kilowatts in two weeks, which is impossible. So I called Austin Energy and two days later, they fixed the problem. My bill for the solar portion was only $0.19, so I paid that. My electric bill came back for April and as of right now, I have a credit of about 32 bucks, which is cool.

We'd been looking into solar energy services for a while then there was an offer from Dividend Solar so we took it. Everything was straightforward when I enrolled. The gentleman who showed up explained what was going on and they also took care of everything including getting with my HOA and the city council. I barely had to do any paperwork and no physical paperwork. At the end of this month, I will see a whole month’s cycle and where our energy usage is at and how much it’s making for the month. The only issue that came up was the amount of time it took to have the panels up and running. I understood it wasn’t completely the company’s fault and they had some contractors that weren’t fulfilling their part of the bargain. But we were hoping to get that done in three months and it took us close to eight months.

I’m in the power generation industry and I looked into solar power in 2004 when we first built our house. At that point in time, it was $90,000 for about a 5 Kilowatt system that had a life of 20 years. It just didn’t make sense with a paltry $2,000 federal tax credit. Last year, when they started putting in the tax credits for doing solar, I started looking a little closer. Three of my neighbors had solar put in over the summer. I talked to the installer that did their systems and I started looking at the cost-benefit versus return and all those good things.
Duke Power was also giving an incentive to do this. I understand their business case. They can either build a new power plant or they can incentivize people who put in solar. It’s going to cost them money one way or the other. It made it very feasible because we’re now looking at a six to seven year payback versus a 25-year payback on a 20-year viable system, which didn’t make sense. The time was right and we’re very fortunate because I live on an airport community and our hangar happens to be oriented almost in the perfect orientation for solar power. So I have a very efficient system, overall.
Dividend Solar did a great job. They kind of sat on the background and took care of everything and, now, we’ve finally been connected. We got our first bill yesterday, and it was for half a month or partial month based on the connection date. Dividend Solar was not perfect but they worked real hard for us. Dividend didn't do a good enough job of educating me of the process, how it can work and the steps. Right now that it's been done, I'm having questions and issues with the local city public service provider. I got my first bill - I show on my solar meter I've reduced 89-kilowatt hours but on my bill they only gave me credit for five. Why?
Also, I can't read the new meters. Nobody from Solar or the city taught me how to read them and I can't get any help from the utility company on how to read the meters and my bill. Everything's getting way too confusing and I can't tell if the investment was worth it because I don't know what's going on.
