Dividend Solar has engaged in deceptive, predatory, and unfair lending practices that have financially burdened my elderly grandmother, demonstrating a severe lack of ethics and transparency. She was misled into signing a loan agreement for solar installation under false pretenses, with critical financial details either misrepresented or completely omitted.
The sales representatives who secured the agreement were terminated shortly after the deal was closed, which raises serious concerns about their integrity and training. Nearly two years after making every payment on time, we discovered that her loan balance is actually higher than the original principal. The original loan amount was $65,000, yet despite her consistent payments, the balance has increased by $60 due to undisclosed daily interest (per diem) calculations. To make matters worse, over $50,000 in "finance charges" have been applied, meaning that if the loan runs its full 25-year term, she will have paid an outrageous $115,000—nearly double the original amount.
At no point was she properly informed of these excessive fees. The contract vaguely mentioned an APY of 4.99%, but it did not transparently explain the compounding interest or how the finance charges would inflate the total amount due. This lack of disclosure is not only unethical but also potentially illegal under fair lending laws.
We strongly believe that this is a case of elder financial abuse. My grandmother was not given a fair opportunity to understand the true cost of this loan, nor was she provided the full and accurate terms in a manner she could reasonably comprehend. Taking advantage of an elderly customer in this way is appalling and unacceptable.
We demand accountability from Dividend Solar. This type of predatory lending must be addressed, and we are prepared to escalate this matter to regulatory authorities, consumer protection agencies, and legal counsel if necessary. We urge others considering doing business with this company to exercise extreme caution and thoroughly review all loan terms with a trusted financial advisor before signing anything. This company’s actions reflect a complete disregard for consumer rights, and we sincerely hope that steps are taken to prevent them from exploiting more vulnerable individuals in the future.

I’ve had a very frustrating experience with this company. The customer support has been poor, and when I spoke with James, he was rude and condescending. I cannot recommend this company. I will be paying off my loan to avoid any further frustration.

I had a very frustrating experience with this lender, especially in relation to their handling of my solar panel loan. I had solar panels installed on my home and I was shocked to find out with less than 24 hrs to close of escrow that they do not allow loans to be transferred to new owners that are not going to occupy the home. This information was not provided to me prior to securing the loan and the answer I received from Dividend was that they don't divulge that information unless the question is asked.
How would anyone know to ask if an investor could assume a solar panel loan? And they waited until the day before close to tell us this unknown rule of their company. They have now caused the closing to be postponed as I am now having to pay the loan off in order to sell my home. I expected a smooth transition, especially considering that solar panel loans are increasingly common in real estate transactions. However, instead of a seamless process, I was faced with unnecessary hurdles and confusion.
The company’s refusal to allow loan transfers to the new homeowner is a major flaw and demonstrates a lack of consideration for buyers who are trying to maintain eco-friendly choices while also adhering to their financial obligations. It made a potentially great investment feel like a burden. If you're thinking about purchasing solar panels or buying or selling a home with solar panels financed by Dividend Finance, be warned that this lender will complicate the process. I would not recommend them to anyone looking for a smooth and efficient transaction.

They told me I would receive 11,000 back on taxes, but I did not. I only received about 3,000. Now, I need to pay 8,000 out of my pocket, or they want me to pay 261.28 monthly for 30 years, plus some electricity. I still get prom PSE&G. They lied to me; I will sue them.

My experience has been horrible. This company has destroyed any equity in my home and I’m gutted to have been taken advantage of like this. Currently have been trying to sell my home and it has been a nightmare. Nothing was properly explained and I have asked many times to be shown the documents that I have “signed.” They let my first month’s payment lapse and accumulate a late fee for THREE months totaling in over $600 (even though I had made multiple monthly payments at this point they waited to tell me that my first payment “never went through” and refused to waive these fees and threatened me that the solar is liened to my home and if not paid they will take my home). I have decided to lawyer up and I just want to know if anyone else has sued them? What the process is like and if you were successful.

Dividend Financing is by far the worst company to deal with. I am a real estate agent that helped a client sell their home with solar panels and had a loan through Dividend. They refused to let the buyer assume the loan, who was very qualified to buy a $650k home forcing the buyer and seller to pay off the loan entirely. They also made the entire process very difficult by not letting anyone talk to them except for the buyers and sellers, who many times wanted my help but they would not authorize the real estate agents, or title reps to speak with them to help our clients. It was all very shady! They mention everywhere that they try to make this a smooth transaction but in my entire real estate career I have never dealt with a 3rd party company that is part of the sale of a house make it so difficult for the homeowners to simply sell their house. DO NOT TAKE A SOLAR LOAN THROUGH THEM!! They will make the sale of your home a nightmare! No company should have so much control on the process of selling your home!

I had Solar panel installed and it's financed through Dividend Finance. This is worst company that I have worked so far. Lumio guy mis-guided me by attaching this company. Like any other finance company, we need to pay Principal and interest. But this bank, even you keep paying your monthly installments the loan amount will not go down.. I was surprised and shocked to see they charge interest by each day... I called customer care to check why my amount doesn't go down even I pay on time, ate agent said it's due to interest each day that I am compounding. So immediately I planned and closed this loan as it's becoming a burden each month. It will stick to your neck whole life if you don't get rid of the loan with them.

I only gave them one star because zero was not an option. Customer service is a joke, worst I have ever dealt with. I financed solar panels with this company in 2023. I put my home on the market in March 2024, it went under contract in early April 2024. On April 22, 2024, a lien was put on my home by this company without any notice to me, this is a shady business practice. So now, we are 2 days away from closing on this house and I cannot even get a person on the phone who can help me get the transfer process started so we can close on schedule.
I am taking the solar panels with me, but they have to "approve" it, which they say will take up to 5 business days to process, but first I need to send an email and wait for someone to send me the form I need to fill out, which could take 48 hours alone to get the form. This company has no sense of ethical business practices or customer service, from my experience. Never missed or been late on a payment, but it doesn't matter because they don't care about their customers.

We were lied to by Vision Solar from beginning, I called Dividend finance in the very beginning with my concerns and they Lied and told me everything was above board. Now here we are a year later and our panels still non-working and finding out the work that was done, was done illegally and without a permit or inspection from city. Even worse, Dividend released monies to Vision Solar for not only Incomplete work but illegal work done on our house. They approved everything. Now Vision solar are out of business and Dividend are trying to keep customers locked into these huge loans. A loan that I wasn't even aware of when the guy was in our home trying to sell us the panels. He told us this was being done through Florida, because the state of Florida wants people to go green. Lies.
Now Dividend is calling me trying to get me to agree to a "3rd party solar company with great reviews" to fix Vision Solars mess. When I asked Catherine from Dividend the name of this "third party company, with great reviews" she couldn't tell me. Then she backtracked saying well actually we haven't found one yet, but I would need to agree first. How about no. The only thing I want at this stage is those NON WORKING panels off my roof and to never do business with Dividend ever again.

Dividend Financial is a poor business partner. While trying to get the loan paid off through the sale of my house they assessed late fees because they never responded to the email sent 19 days ago. There is only one email address listed through the customer portal and apparently they don't check that email very often. When I called their customer support person he stated it should have been sent to a completely different email: billing@dividendfinance.com. This has caused a delay that can be very costly both to my personal account as well as delays in completing the escrow. They need to be more responsive and provide information on the website like how to stop and auto payment as well as where to send escrow inquiries. Aside from these issues with closing the company seemed satisfactory.

I am having the same experience as so many others. We were completely lied to by the salesman/company that sold our system. In fact, the salesman is in prison now, and the company has reorganized to avoid all the faulty installs. We were sold the system on the incredible tax advantage, which when combined with solar production made it possible to “net out”, and reduce the payment to the average monthly I pay for electricity. Then in 9 years because of the tax advantages, I could have the system paid off. We were made so many promises and none of them were true. We were sold Solar Edge inverters that have a terrible track record, and the installers have been unable to find why half my system does not produce any power.
If I had the money and know how, I would start a class action, which would include Dividend, Solstice Energy, the Utah Solar Company. We are being tied to these awful contracts that are being sold by snakes that sell, sell, sell, and disappear with their riches. I copied this from another user: This is my exact experience. "I was paying $89 a month for my electricity.. Now I have a 20 year loan and paying $245 for 20 years plus electricity $35 more.. I was lied to by the company that first sold me the panels and DIVIDEND are completely aware that this company are lying and locking you into this loans. The company that sold me my panels are out of business and I'm stuck with a loan for 19 more years.."

The potential of going green, even at no savings was too good to be true. My system is way too small to take away nearly any of my energy bill, and the price I paid I’ll never recoup. On top of that, Married with 3 kids, my tax liability was not enough to get The money I was supposed to put towards my loan, no keeping the original monthly price of $100 more a month. I’m 2 years into having this loan and till yet to recoup the “rebate” that is really just a tax liability break. I pay as much for my electric bill with more than my electric bill every month paying off a solar system that does me no good. Worst purchase I’ve ever made, and an extremely costly one.

Just attempting to inquire about assuming the loan I discovered 1. long hold times. 2. representatives who are short, snippy, and just don't seem to care. 3. incorrect information regarding system warranties, etc. To me, this all says Dividend is one of those "zig hile" companies where cash is king and everything else (including customers) can take a hike. I believe we will just pay off the solar system and steer clear of Dividend. P.S.: Dividend, if you dislike being informed on, get your issues squared up!

I am writing this as buyer beware. This company ripped me off. I got a loan through them not too bad of an interest rate however there was a clause that I have to pay them $265.10 for 13 months. I called them very soon after signing the contracts. In actuality I never signed myself. The solar company just pushed the application through on their laptop at my kitchen table. Either way I did agree but when I call Dividend Finance to see if I could pay the lump sum payment their representative told me on the phone directly that I have no choice but to wait the 13 months to pay the lump sum payment. I did have the money in the bank at the time and still do.
I knew the lump sum payment was coming up so I called to get my logon information for their payment portal. At that time the representative stated, "Oh no you could have made the payment any time and it would have activated the account so that the payments of $265.10 would have done towards your loan instead of pure interest." Now I know some people need to have that period to pay I did not there purely ripped me off. Now I am not saying they are in practice of doing that with everyone but they did it to me. Who knows if they won’t do it or something else to you. I have paid them as soon as I found this out. They supposedly did an internal investigation to say that all my phone calls to them have disappeared so they have no proof I ever called them in the first place me. I will continue to tell everyone about the business practices of this company because they are wrong.
