The application at Liberty was a long drawn-out process. But they were good and they did their job. They answered every question that I put in front of them. I was comfortable with them.

I went through the process of the reverse through a broker that arranged for the reverse mortgage, and then that's where Liberty came into play. The application process took a while, about two or three weeks. The timing could've been improved.

We had a very good person who was helping us with the loan but the application process is stultifying and numbing. The things that we had to provide were worse than getting a refi. We had to provide statements from Equifax. We had to get two years’ worth of payment history to the homeowners association. I've had some disputed student loans for my kids for the last 20 years, so that was out there. We had to get that off the books. It took a long time to get all this stuff and to clear up my payment status with Equifax.
Every time the rep called, which was often because we had a lot of telephone conversations, I had to listen to his agent number and he had to ask me for my date of birth, which was annoying. They sent over a notary and we signed 1,000 pieces of paper, but we've already signed them electronically. For a while, I thought the process would never get done. We’re thankful that we got it done finally but I didn't like that I had to buy a mortgage insurance. That was $20,000. It's 2% of the value of the house. The government allows a maximum fee of $6,000 to initiate the loan. Liberty charged the maximum $6,000 and I didn't like that as well. I also had to pay a lot of money to get a title insurance which I already have. All of this stuff added up to well over $30,000 to close.

They were very nice and helpful. I had to go to the class so I understood what I was doing. I also had to get certain paperwork together for them, which made a lot of sense. My loan officer kept in touch with me. If I didn't have something right, she called and told me what to do about it. If I had any questions, I just called her.

My loan officer recommended a specific woman and when I spoke to the woman, there was an instant rapport. And they weren't just telling me to do it. They were, not critical, but very careful with what they suggested. I liked them very much. My experience was relatively easy. The one thing that I had that I thought was the most critical bit of it was, I was supposed to have the trim painted on the house, and they would hold back $4,000. It was very difficult to get that $4,000. I still haven't received it. The man who did it was a legitimate businessman, but he didn't fill out the form. I asked him again and again and it just was aggravation. That was the only drawback to Liberty.

The rep at Liberty was very helpful and informative. She answered all my questions and anything that came up, I was able to call her and get it resolved. It was a smooth process. They gave me contact info to get ahold of somebody if I needed. They asked me some basic questions, sent me an email with the information I would need to supply them with so that they could process the application and see if I was gonna qualify. I sent them everything and they looked it through. They told me tentatively we could do the mortgage and I'd have to get an appraisal and pay for that. They gave me the numbers which looked fine.
At first there was an issue. They wanted me to put $35,000 into an escrow account and I told them that wouldn't work at all. We got around that because I had some income in addition to my social security that I could put towards it. The escrow account went away and we proceeded. The rate was high, but it's not as high as standard loans out there are. It's 6.69% and I was seeing 8% to 12% on other kind of products. Plus it's adjustable so if the feds decrease interest rates, mine can change. I don't like the mortgage insurance, but I can understand why they have to have it on there. Liberty has a good product that adapts with the economy. I have recommended them to a friend and he called them.

The rep was very pleasant but it was a long drawn out process with Liberty Reverse. I was constantly getting paperwork to fill out. A lot of it was FHA. I'm not happy at all. If had to do it over again, I would go with somebody else.

I started in November and it ended last March. Now, I can build my savings back up and I am satisfied with everything about it. I would certainly recommend them to anybody I come across and interested in it.

The only thing I don't like about Liberty Reverse Mortgage is it's hard to get repairs done. But as far as going through them to get the loan, it went very smooth. We closed on the new loan before I even got my roof repaired off of the old loan. They just sent me my money that they had in escrow waiting. They're wonderful people. The gal I worked with and I got right on it and she was amazing. She sent everything to me to sign electronically, so I didn't have to print stuff off, sign it, fax it. I could do it all.

Liberty Reverse was willing to work with me even though my property was potentially valued at a lower number than some of the companies were willing to work with. Overall, my experience was pretty good. But at one point, I got pretty disgusted that they would place so much emphasis on an aerial photograph of the property lines on my property, which everybody knows that they're not accurate. But it cost me $500 to get a mortgage survey done to show that my west property line coincided with the west line of the easement through my property. It slowed everything down by about a month. They wanted to make sure that my property line didn't infringe upon my neighbor's property line, even though I had old documents from the county showing that my property line and the easement property line were one and the same. They would not accept that. Part of it I took because they're from California thing.
This is a rural community in Northern Michigan. We're a little more laid back about things and we also understand that aerial photographs are not accurate and there was a county document. Although, they didn't like the look of that document. In a sense, I can understand why they were hesitant. But they never should've taken too much stock in that aerial photograph. Other than that, it was a pretty good deal. They were nice and courteous enough most of the time.

Cindy, my daughter, likes Liberty. She got the first reverse mortgage in 2019. Then, she wanted to get flooring put in her house. So, she got another reverse mortgage and she went through Leah from Liberty. Leah was good. She kept track of everything. Cindy can't talk very well because she has no time. So, Leah was texting her all the time, letting her know what was going on and helping her. Cindy was happy with the rates. She got a lot done.

Liberty Reverse Mortgage made the contact. So, I learned that would be available to me now. And with their help of learning what would be involved or what the situation was, I carefully considered whether I wanted to do the reverse mortgage a second time or not. So, it was with learning about it from them and the information that was provided that helped me make a decision about it. I gave it some thought. It wasn't immediately with the contact. I had to think about it a while. But due to their help, the information they had was good and helpful, so I went ahead with them on that plan. They were helpful to let me know what I needed to find and what information they would have to meet the requirements.
The two loan advisors that I had were pleasant, patient and understanding. And if I had any questions about what I was looking for, they helped all that a person could help from a distance like saying, "I'll come help you look for it." They could very well do that. But they kept it from being an arduous thing to do. That made a lot of difference for their company. The fact that they were pleasant, and we could find something to laugh about was very nice. It made it possible to say I enjoyed working with them when it was such a government-oriented thing. All these requirements still with the way they personally represented their company, they knew what they were doing and knew what it took. So, they were very nice to work with. It became an interesting project to me just to see how to do it.
They knew what it was about and could help what to look for. And if I had a question of, "Why do I need this or that or something else," they knew the answers of why. I'm glad to pass the word along to people that I would recommend the reverse mortgage. I would be glad to give them their name and number to use. Because I can trust that they would treat the next person as nice as they did me. And I felt like I became friends with them. It was very nice for me. I enjoyed feeling like we had become friends. So, it was a pleasant experience when you consider what all is involved. They had very nice personalities and had a compassionate way of working with their client in a very professional way. That was the way it would be done. They could add their own personality that was helpful.

Application moved along quick. Our only problem was when it came to appraisal, we had a home appraiser come out, then the government wanted another appraisal for some reason. It seemed like an appraiser connected to the same office as the first appraiser came out, so they had to disqualify that one and send a third appraiser out. We only paid for the initial one though.
The process was good, and if it wasn't for the different appraisers, which wasn't Liberty Reverse Mortgage’s fault, it would have zoomed right on through. I would recommend them. Everything that they did was fast, and they walked us through the process. The people that walked us through were really attentive, and the communication was great. We could reach them on the phone and talk to someone. If we had questions, they got right back to us. Email was great also.

Christopher was telling us everything we needed to know and he was explaining things. And when we went through the HUD certification, everything they told me, he had told us. So, he was forthright in what he was saying. We were on the phone for a couple of hours with him. He was answering questions, and we were happy with him. We didn't think he was trying to put up the wool over our heads. We were happy with Liberty's process. It took about three weeks because when Christopher told us to get something done, my wife and I got it done right away. We were hoping that we could get it done fast enough to avoid another mortgage payment, and that was the way it worked. We were able to save a whole month.
They sent us links to look at and everything was on the up and up. Documents were signed. As a matter of fact, at the very end, we even got a refund from the title company. They said they overcharged us. Working with Liberty, we feel like we have some pressure off of us. We feel that we don't have a financial problem now that we can do things and we're building money in our bank account. It's only been a month and we can see things are improving right away. I would highly recommend Liberty.

Liberty seemed as good as any company. The online application process was straightforward. The sales guy I was talking with was very helpful and knowledgeable, and I liked him. He was very good with communication and easy to work with. The only difficult part was getting the appraisal done for the house. It took almost two months. Other than that, everything went smoothly. It seemed like the first appraisal company was backed up, and then when they finally sent somebody out about two weeks into him putting the appraisal together, which he should have done in one week, he backed out because he had some kind of family problem going on. Then we had to go find another one. It went on and on. Other than that, Liberty was fine to work with.

My experience with Liberty was very good. I had a first mortgage from 2014 on, and it was nearing the end, and I got a call from a representative from Liberty. At the same time, I got a few mail contacts from different reverse mortgage office suggesting refi. My first talk with anybody from Liberty was with Elizabeth. She called to ask if I was interested in considering a reverse mortgage. We got started on this in early January, but the call was made back in December. I said, "I'm not sure at this point. But if it makes some sense, I'd be interested in hearing about it." She felt that it'd be a good idea if she called back in about a month, which she then did.
I went forward with her. With all the complexities, with all the different terms and the rest of it, you don't always get a clear answer, and in her case, everything I asked was answered carefully and clearly. So, I have nothing but good stuff to say about Liz. As far as the application and underwriting process, they were pretty timely with whatever was in the procedure. Where I had to produce some answers to the questions, I did that quickly and they responded back quickly. So the whole process, from beginning of January to the end of January, I got it all locked up by then.
Liz is a very easy person to talk to, and very understanding that, "Hey, this guy isn't aware of all the complexities of this stuff. He did it 10 years ago, but we're doing it now again." It was a good process. I received my first check right after the first of the month. When I got the check, we had already made all the progress. I explained to Liz the reason I'm considering doing this was I'm nearing the end of my original reverse mortgage, and I'm approaching 90 years of age. And what I'm trying to arrange is, make sure I get three or four more years out of a refi because it's my goal not to have to move at my age and take everything I own and figure out what to do with it.

Everything with Liberty was okay. The process just took a long time, but half of that was my fault because I was away for a couple of weeks. I was on the telephone with a lady who asked a lot of questions. It was about 45 minutes to an hour, and I didn't think it was necessary. Plus, it cost me $75 to talk to this lady. She was very nice. I saw a lot of things that I didn't know, but I thought also I didn't need to know. It was more difficult than buying a house. The people on the other end from Liberty were first-class people to talk with, but they needed things and it took a lot of time. Overall, we got it done and I'm very satisfied with the outcome.

The rep with Liberty, Eric, called and explained so much. I could ask any question. He responds even today if I will call him about something. I was impressed with his willingness to share information and explain things. The application process was easy, especially the electronic documents. The hardest part of that process was when things were turned over to the the notary. The notary had to keep coming back with documents to be signed.
There were some aspects that I did not know about and that were a surprise to me. Once the inspector came out, Liberty contacted me and told me all the things that needed to be done. I was flabbergasted because it wasn't my expectation. My mind didn't relate to inspector money. There were things that I needed to accomplish, which cost me money, which was why I was doing the reverse mortgage. That was hard because I ended up spending on credit quite a bit, which I had to pay with some of the money I received, which hurt some of my plans. I'm not a person who had a credit card at the time. The officer that I worked with was great. He took me under his wing and made me feel like he cared about me. I got a little frustrated, but it wasn't at them per se. It was just that the title company had to have this, this, and this. When the reps came out and did the home inspection, they had some things that had to be checked out. I used to be with another company but they were hard-nosed and I didn't feel comfortable when I talked to them. They wanted to me to do things, and if I did them, then they’d give me an incentive. But that was sort of giving a kid a candy or a sucker to suckle, so she'd choose you. So I dropped them and asked Liberty to take me back, which they so kindly did. But their mortgage process wasn't easy. They kept asking for things that they needed instead of asking all at once. Every time I provided what they needed, they’d give me another list. And it seemed like it went on and on.
Other than that, the rep I had was great. He had somebody working with him and he sort of turned things over to her after a while. She dragged the process out, but I was dealing with a lot of health issues at the time, so it took a long time. The other day, I contacted Liberty Reverse Mortgage because I have not received my signed documents and I did not like the lady. I couldn't understand her. I'd send them some information and it wouldn't be right or I have to send in another copy. It was a long process, but they were good with me. They worked with me on it.
My case manager even said it was taking longer than normal, but he stayed with me through the whole thing. I have all the respect I can have for him. He was really good. His demeanor was great. As a matter of fact, we felt like we were friends before it was over with. We talked about a lot of things besides the mortgage. He helped me get the information I needed. He helped me a lot in compiling figures and talking to people and getting forms. He was really good to work with.
Liberty had some people that weren't really helping a lot. We had to change a person that was working with me and him both halfway through the process because maybe they were covered up with different cases and mine was getting shuffled to the back. The process with Liberty was very trying. They knew that I was planning a trip. It was my bucket list trip. They also knew that I was planning this for October. They told me at the beginning that they could close by then. But they didn't. We made the bucket list trip when it closed. This was up to Yosemite and the Black Hills and Cody up in Wyoming and South Dakota and a lot of things were just closed by then. We missed a lot of things we would have liked to do on the trip because they closed on the 10th. We didn't have the money to go by then.
I kept getting different reasons for the delay. I got a message that it was because Oklahoma county clerks were known to keep it for a month and they had to allow them that time. I called the Oklahoma county clerk and she didn't even have it. So it was just a blatant story. They tried to tell me it was a miscommunication, but it wasn't. We still wanted to make the bucket list trip. But we were very anxious to do it. So when we did close, the amount that we were gonna receive just out of the blue went down to $19,000. We were quoted more than that that I would probably get. They never told me they were gonna do that.
My loan officer was Leah and she knew I was unhappy. She was very nice. But I felt like I got taken on down the road. For $19,000, they charged me around 7,000 plus. Then they told me, "Well, we might can do more next year.” But I told them, "I probably don't want to do next year. I well might not be alive next year." I would like to have been better appraised on what was going on. I was almost left out of the loop. I would certainly wish to be told the fact, and not something to soothe me. I would have liked it to have been above board.
I did appreciate some things that Liberty did. Since it took so much longer, I had to make two months of the home insurance, which they took out of my deal. I got on the phone with my agent and he straightened it out this week and it finally was paid. But I would tell other family members not to go that route. The charge was too high for what you get, and they don't let you know that until the last minute. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I called Liberty to inquire how reverse mortgages worked because I wasn't aware. The representative that I dealt with, Liz, was excellent and I could trust her. She had a positive attitude and helped me along the way. She had an upbeat personality and explained things to me. The only depressing part about the procedure with Liberty was I couldn't believe all the stuff that they required. I was asking, "What do you need this for? And this one?" I was getting frustrated and I almost stopped it. Liz was really patient and she was telling me, "Okay. We just need this and that and we're almost done." I did one at a time slowly. The process took two and a half months. On the whole, I'm happy to have a whole new payment on the money that I owe so I can catch up on the other small credit cards and then go from there.

Liberty did all the work. When I did the application, they sent a notary here and she had me sign all the paperwork and she notarized everything. It was very easy. I worked with a man first and then, Leslie was the one who handled the paperwork part of it all or if I had federal copies of this or that. She was very good and helpful. This is the second time I did a reverse mortgage with Liberty. They answered all my questions and the communication was good. It was either by phone or by text, some email.
The people have to talk to you and ask you that you understand everything about a reverse mortgage, etcetera, etcetera, you know, and they tell you all about it and stuff to make sure that you know what's going on with it, and everybody has to do that. my husband passed away like six months ago and I needed some money to do a roof, you know, put a new roof on and stuff. So that's why I did it on the house and they helped me get it.

My husband passed away and in order for me to stay here, I applied for a reverse mortgage. Liberty has been more than cooperative. The problem is my feet dragging only because of some of the things that I had to do. Also, the application process was horrible. The signing alone was a pain. The first man that Liberty sent was all right and gave me information. He had his cell phone and was more interested in what his son had to say about the car he was buying.
He would put the paper in front of me and say, "Sign. Sign here. Name and date, name and date." He would then talk to his son. I figured, “How long can I be signing my name and a date?” What I made him do was write the number of the month, the day and the year because he was getting me confused. At 82, it doesn't take much to confuse an old person. When his son wasn't going to call back anymore, he wanted to talk about his family, his mother, the trips that they took, and the boats that they were on.
I signed the papers in May. He then said "You can't make another call until next year." I was only going to take $1,000 a month. Once he left, my granddaughter expressed her dislike and I didn't like it either. But we signed it and the next morning, I went to the post office and I did what the man said. The lady that was there was very sweet. I told her the documents had to go right then. It did and it got to Liberty.
I got a call from another rep and I had to sign again. The rep I had the second time was a beautiful young little girl from Wilmington. She was absolutely fabulous and I was hoping that she would be my go-to girl. She does just that particular thing. She was very sweet. I was told that if I wanted to draw, I was to call her and she would see to it that it got here. But that wasn't true. A man said there was supposed to be a form in my packet. We looked through the three packets and we couldn't find the form. Liberty said they were going to send it. My friend said that something came in the mail so we looked. We had papers everywhere. We had separated stuff and marks of certain things that help us understand what it was. It was rude to send a packet to an 82 year old and expect any of us to understand what the heck it was. It's too much.
In the end, we found the form and I informed the woman who called. She asked what it said and I started reading it. I said, "Well, there's a part down the bottom that says name." And she said there was not supposed to be anything on there but a place for you to do this and this and this. What I don't understand was the people that were doing the investigation. My made good money. The people only went back three months or three years, whcich was when everything broke loose. They should have gone back 20 years. We have two homes both paid for. The first time we applied, Liberty never even bothered with the Baltimore home, which was my mother's home. But when I applied the second time, they started asking me all these questions about it. From application to finish, it took a long time. They stuck my mother's house in there. All in all, I wouldn't recommend Liberty.

I appreciated how Liberty Reverse listened to me, and they responded. Their rep helped me find my way, because he dropped information to me which resulted in my 200,000 debt being paid. He sent me detailed emails about what they would need to see and what the process was. I was well informed. He kept me up front. He sent me correspondence as to what would be done and what was needed. The rep was really good. He was very personable, upfront and helped me a lot. I was under an enormous amount of stress, and he was calm enough to listen to my story of how I arrived at needing help.
This house was mine forever. I grew up in this house. It was given to me by my mother after my father passed, and I have had it for eight years. I had some medical issues and I didn't get any support from my wife at the time. She wasn't wifely. The end result was I got the annulment, but I owed her 200 grand, so I needed to find somebody that would go ahead and drop coinage to get the lien off the house. I'm a 74 years old Vietnam vet who got exposed to Agent Orange. I was K-9 in Nam and for Strategic Air Command, walking around fence lines all night long, and my knees have been replaced because I had arthritic knees. I'm on borrowed time, and I have no family. My mother and father died, and I have no children. I got some cousins, but they don't give a crap.
So here I am, and I'm happy. I got my reverse mortgage, and I got $6,000 above that so I could go ahead and do whatever I wanted around the house. I just went and put it right back into the house. I have no intention of leaving. I don't know when the next time I'll leave, forever, will happen, but I got into this and my mindset is, it's a one way street and it could end today. I'm not thinking about wall street or the federal interest rate. Everything was explained to me. If I drop today, Liberty Reverse gets the house or they're in the mix. I don't have a will. So good luck to them.

The reps were all great. Getting all the information they needed was difficult. Liberty needed papers and documentation that I had to get from the government and it was just impossible to get. Since COVID, the government has totally shut down. You can't even call a government agency. You just get an automated number. You can never get through to anybody. There was one time when I spent weeks calling every single day every hour of the day. But I got the same government answer every time I called saying, "Due to the high volume of calls, please call back at another time."
The paperwork on this mortgage is so voluminous. To get the loan, I had to sign my name about 100 times. But it's nothing that anybody can understand. I can't read my contract and understand it. The print is too small. The average person doesn't understand the legal jargon. It's crazy. When the person brought the contract to my house to sign, that process took about an hour and a half. But my first house loan took about 10 minutes. Other than that, the reverse mortgage helped a lot because of the current situation of our nation. I was satisfied.

I filled out a form and Liberty reached out quite quickly to initiate the conversation. I did a reverse mortgage as a replacement income for retirement. Christine was my rep and she was very thorough and detail-oriented. She was very pleasant and professional. She answered all of my questions and she handled it all. On my end, I was able to upload documents as needed. The whole process from the initial phone call to loan closing took probably six weeks. There were some minor delays based on the documents needed. But it was all within certainly a reasonable timeline.
Liberty's communication and explanations were really good. There were a few times when some follow-up calls took more time than needed and I had to follow up with them but it's to be expected. It was not unreasonable. Liberty has reduced the stress level that was there due to retirement and concern about maintaining the mortgage and a reasonable income. Things went as expected and as hoped. They did a great job of taking away some of the past negative reputations of reverse mortgages.

I could connect with Liberty the best and they were more aggressive in getting new clients. As soon as I made the first inquiry about reverse mortgage companies, I got a call from a person and not a computer. That person was personable and presented the company benefits well. I followed up, checked them out, and decided that it was good. I already had a reverse mortgage before. It wasn't a learning curve for me but was just a matter of finding out whether or not Liberty was a reputable company.
Liberty's application process was organized and not as bad as it could have been. It took about a week for everything to get completed from beginning to end. They didn’t have to drag their feet. With the current conditions, the rate I got was reasonable. My house is paid for and I only withdrew $5,000 in funding on a line of credit.
There was only one thing about the process. Since I had a reverse mortgage before, I knew about the onerous upfront fees. I also thought I knew about the number of documents that it took to close. I've been a real estate broker for 50 years, so I know closings and signings. But I had to sign 55 times and that was ridiculous. I have written over 200 pages of paper. Not a single person who has ever lived can understand those documents. If they had maybe a year to go over them, they might have some understanding but never a full understanding. And there’s no way that that’s helping the consumer on what it's supposed to be all about.
I would like to speak to Congress about this. It’s not just for Liberty. The world is getting this way to where the company thinks they’re protected. The fun thing is the guy gets there. I told him before he came, “I guess it’s about a ream of paper." But it turned out to be 220 pages. That included the appraisal. The thing is the things I wanted to see before closing, I really didn’t get ahold of like the title commitment.
The bottom line is the process of actually closing is something that I shouldn't have done. Nobody should sign that many papers. I counseled some of my friends about being able to do a reverse mortgage. I believe in the concept of it for some of us who've lived our lives the way we've had and ended up with nothing. Only desperate people would do it. Liberty did their job but it’s absolutely ridiculous to have the customer sign that many times. It was redundant but it was just protecting the different aspects of the transaction. It just really made me very angry. But I was very nice to the closer. He didn't know any better.
That aside, everybody in the process did their job well but the company itself needs to take another look at what they're asking people to do. It puts the company in the position of clearly not being willing to take a risk anywhere and that should be clear to people. If you listened to and read everything they gave you upfront, you would have no excuse. But nobody in this world is going to read all that stuff. Liberty can also actually give people the information they need without covering their own ** every word. But they do it because it is the process and it’s risky. It’s just actually being able to foreclose ultimately. It's one of those things that goes against the grain and people that are survivors and inheritors don't understand it.

One time, I couldn't do some of the documents on my iPad and my computer wasn't working properly. But with the person I was working with and myself, I was able to copy things on the phone and send the document, if there weren't too many pages. And on a couple of things, I gave her access and we did a third party call, then she was able to make an appointment with the company and get what was needed. Also, my questions were all answered and I didn't even realize I had questions until I went through that process. Everything was done very respectfully and they were most accommodating. I worked with Elizabeth at Liberty and she seemed caring and truthful. She took the time and answered any questions that I had. Every time I called out there, she wasn't always there. But she always called me back, usually on the same day, and she didn't ignore me once the process started. She was knowledgeable and she tried to make sure that I understood them before she got off the subject. But I had some problems with the process itself, not her or any of the people that worked for her. They tried to hurry the process too fast and I wasn't sure that I'd answered all her questions on the written proposal. And I didn't sleep that night thinking if I'd done the wrong thing.
I also did not care for the people that came to my house representing Washington. They had to have a printed Social Security card and I, to this day, don't understand that. I sent them my tax papers with my and my wife's Social Security on them. And that wasn't good enough. My driver's license wasn't good enough either. But those are government-ran programs and they were not good enough for them, what is? It was very disturbing to me. We started in October and that was the main ingredient that slowed everything down. We then went to the Social Security office and took out new cards. That really threw me into a tizzy. They told me my mother wasn't my mother and they told me that she had a different name. I told them that I didn't want to argue with anybody because I needed that program but they shouldn't tell me what my mother's name was. Then he came back with the card and printed on it was another's name.
They also told me that I was born in 1943 but I told them that I know for a fact that I was born in 1944. It's on a passport I used to have as well as on my driver's license and my birth certificate. It opened my eyes up to some of those things. It was nothing really big but it was just an accumulation of a bunch of little stuff like that. Aside from that, I've had local people tell me my house is worth $320,000. But Liberty's guy came out and said it was worth 265,000. I would have been happy with that had the other people not told me it was worth more. They went on the calculations of the 265,000, which was all right with me. But I didn't get near as much money as I thought I should have. We wound up getting what we’d get next year if we decided to take that out. I got 162,000 this time and next year, I get 22,000. That's $184,000 on a house that's worth $265,000. I have no idea where $80,000 will be and that's a lot of money to me.
Then, in getting the money, Liberty's rep said asked if both my and wife's names were my checking and savings account. I told her that I didn't have a savings account, only checking account. However, the checks should be in her and my name only. When we went to the bank, we had all that switched around. So, now, both of us have it and we still don't have a check that has both our names on it. So, they mailed the check to me and when took it to the bank, it was going to be eight days before I could get the money for it. Which made me question if I have done somewhere online I didn't know about because I called the bank and then I called the number they gave me to something federal and asked if they could relax the rules so I could get the money the next day. They said no.
So, I called the number again the next day and I asked why I had the check, it was in my bank, and yet I couldn't get the money. They they checked and California hadn't released it yet. California said their bank was holding it up. On the second day, we talked to a guy and he was very considerate. He said he would do some more checking. I told him that they did check the day before but there was a time difference. They were checking out there at 5 o'clock in the morning and I seriously doubt if anybody was there to okay it. So, he did it in the afternoon and 20 minutes later, the bank called me and said I had my money.

I was impressed with how smoothly the whole thing went. I was very comfortable with them. Liberty was very helpful with anything and explained everything to me and told me what I needed. The experience with Liberty Reverse Mortgage was a little rocky early on because there seemed to be a lot of information that they wanted that didn't make a lot of sense to me. I had a battle with cancer in 2016 through about 2018 which caused me to miss some mortgage payments. After that, for 24 months straight, there were no issues. But they seemed to harp more on the darkest period of my life asking, "Why did this happen? Why you didn't pay this," rather than, "The last 24 months, you've done well."
It got so frustrating and I almost ended the relationship because I had to get all my cancer doctors’ bills which brought a lot of bad memories back. Finally, one of the managers got on the phone with me. We hashed it out. She understood from my perspective and we got through it. She explained the process a little more. There was also one representative, Lea, who did a lot of the paperwork down the stretch. She was very good. We got as close to 6% as we could get. I was hoping it would have got down into the 5% but I was pleased at the end.

The original Liberty broker salesman and I had a pretty good conversation. I have been looking at different reverse mortgages and he was very good about answering my questions. That was the main reason I called them. But the application process was a pain. It extended into months because in some of the requests for my financial information, the language used by the people working the loan was a different language than me. And there was some frustration in producing things that were needed. It took some back and forth to get everybody on the same page. Then the original broker that I started with didn't finish with me. I got a second one, which was okay, but she didn't have to do much. Overall, I was satisfied and I received good feedback from other lenders.

We've had Liberty from our original reverse mortgage since 2014. Then we did a refi. Since we've tried other people and nobody had satisfactory conclusions for us, we went with Liberty. I'm pretty happy with it. As far as the application process, it was pretty easy. They walked us through it. We did it all through on the computer. There was just a lot of sending photocopies back and forth, and it took a while. There was a little bickering back and forth and misunderstanding, but we got it all straightened out. The HUD’s crazy rules make things a little difficult. We had all these different figures for our line of credit and every time it looked like we had a decent amount of line of credit that we're gonna get, it turned out it was not the case. They managed to at least meet us halfway with that one whereas no other company that we tried did.
We were supposed to get an $85,000 line of credit as opposed to the 70,000 that we already had originally on a previous reverse mortgage with Liberty. Other than that, everything was good, the house appraisal was nice, and by the time all's said and done, we ended up with barely 80,000. So, it was still 10,000 more than we originally had, but one goes through all that hassle. So, we decided to go ahead and go with it. The Liberty reps were pretty good. They worked with us hand in hand. If they didn't have an answer, they got somebody that did and they got back to us. I was satisfied. They were very professional and they were very nice to us. They understood our needs and what was going on and how we felt about certain things.
Working with Liberty helped us have a little security. We're both on fixed incomes and it's nice we have our house equity. That’s what we’d like to tap into in case of emergencies. Their process moved quickly. It's just a matter of getting the proper stuff the way it needed to be and what we were trying to accomplish. That was a little bit nerve-wracking because, after all that, we're just about ready to drop it all. There were a few things I got wrong. The deal was for them to pay the appraisal. We had the appraisal with another company before them and they paid for it, but they were willing to pay them. But they also put that in the closing cost. It was like $625.
Part of the deal, which we have in writing, was that they pay the closing cost. And they didn't take it out of. When the whole loan was finally done, they didn't take it out. So, it gave us $625 less in our line of credit. Because of that, they fixed it up. We also got free counseling services. With the interest rates being as high as they are, the line of credit is pretty good. It may not sound like a lot, but when you take $625 away from the initial line of credit, it’s all compounded on top of each other. So, that's the only thing we regretted.

I got my reverse mortgage with Liberty Reverse Mortgage, they did a very good job. Everything was fine until my home was destroyed with Hurricane Ian. I got my insurance check and called PHH Mortgage (same as Liberty Reverse Mortgage) for a payoff on 10/19/2022. After getting the run around and several calls on 11/3/2022 I get a payoff. They received the check on 11/7/2022 and put the money in escrow until 12/2/2022 when they paid off my loan.
After calling and getting disconnected several time because when you call you get a person in the Philippines and they know nothing and when they try to connect to the US you get disconnected. I finally was told that it would take up to 90 days to get the overage money back to me. They are holding the money for almost 5 months and making money on the money that belong to me. So think of your love ones who may sell your house after you can live there anymore or you sell the house it will take up to 5 months to get the excess money.

We sold our home in California to move to Oklahoma to help our daughter with a business that she and her husband had started. And we got here two hours after she passed away from a bicycle accident. We had started to remodel this home when we bought it and being that she passed away, we had to pay for the funeral. So, we put a lot of money out of pocket and then, we didn't have enough money to finish the house. It was an ongoing event, but we're recouping. And Liberty Mortgage was great. The guy told us upfront the process was gonna take a long time. And it did for the most part. It was all good. So, I would recommend them to help people if they're in a financial situation.
I didn't understand reverse mortgage but I'm glad that I did it because it definitely bailed us out. In the very beginning, it seemed a little sketchy. I was a little curious. But all in all, they stayed on top of things. Now, we just have to figure out if we wanna stay in this home because we paid cash for it, so there's no mortgage. We're here at least for another year or two and after that, we're gonna have to make a decision. There's only one thing that I need to deal with the lender on. Our taxes and insurance are supposed to be taken out of their funds that they held back and the homeowners’ insurance policy was paid in full except for $80. I don't know why they didn't pay the $80 but I paid it and let the lender know. He said they would talk about it and see if they can get me reimbursed. But it's no big deal.
I sold real estate back in the ‘80s and back then, my broker encouraged me to never ever talk about reverse mortgages to people. They were not good back in those days, which was why I was a little bit leery of it. But in the same token, everything seemed to be so honest and upfront. So, we did it. It's been a great experience. They were very good. When I needed a response, I would email and Sabrina, the rep, would get right back to me. Or if I called on the phone, the manager would call me back. Everything seemed to be smooth.

During the application process, some of the stuff was redundant and time-consuming. It went from one thing to another and going back to the other, so it was something that I didn't enjoy. There could be a little bit forward information on what would be needed. They provided a list of things. I worked on the list and was constantly asking was there anything else. Of course, there was. Being transparent on what's necessary was lacking. But on the flip side, the gentleman that helped me out, Richard, was extremely patient with me and took me off the ledge numerous times. He was outstanding. At times, I got a little bit loud. I wasn't using profanity, but he could tell that I was frustrated. He never crossed the line. He was respectful.
Originally, I worked with Ron. He said the right words. He was a salesperson. After he passed me over to Richard, he reached out one time where I was getting frustrated because of the constant, “I need this now. I need that now,” but it wasn't of concern for me. It was more concerned about the fact that he thought I might not follow through on the process, of losing a customer. I was in contact with Richard many times throughout the week but never heard from Ron again at all.

I've taken additional money out and it's been fine. There was a hiccup here and there, but nothing would stop me from recommending Liberty Reverse Mortgage.
It's a scary process. You don't know if you're giving up control of your house. They make you take a course for consumers who are thinking of doing a reverse mortgage and get a certificate stating that you've completed this course. Everything was taken care of, and the credits came through that were supposed to have been. They said if I got my counseling, they would give me a $50 credit. So I went and got my own counseling, and found a place that did it for free. But they told me to do it, I would earn $50. The gal that I worked with at Liberty seemed to be combative the whole time. I had to explain the way I do business and what I expect from her. She never knew anything. She always had to talk to her boss about it.
I got a notice from Liberty saying, “Have you been out of your house for over two months?” I asked her, “Why is that? Because according to the FHA guidelines, you’re not supposed to ask that.” I said it was an infringement. But she didn't seem to know how to answer that. So she had to go back and talk to somebody else. Everything was like, “Oh, I'll have to get back to you.” So to me, I felt like I cut my teeth on a new person. Don't trust everything they do because they're learning. We all need to learn patience. But that was a little aggravated. She wasn't on my side. She basically wanted to get this thing through, and I did too.
I was getting ready to go out of town and I didn't want any delays. I was getting promises from the bank, Liberty itself, saying that if I did this, I would get that. But when I asked for it, she said, “Oh, that was something else, and that you had to do this and that.” I would say that I was getting offers for free appraisal, so I didn't want to pay for the appraisal. I wish I had done it earlier when the interest rates were lower. But I got what I got. It was a lot of extra work for me. I had to be on my toes and keep track of everything. I had to prove everything along the way. I don't even take the time to see if I got the credit, of which I was supposed to get because it's done now. It's closed. So yesterday, I got a refund for appraisal. They said 500. But I didn't check the closing statement and see how much the appraisal was. Because they charged me and they weren't supposed to.
The loan processor was amazing. He was quick and he communicated. I told him, “I don't do emails. So if you're sending me one, please text me.” So he honored what I needed. He would tell me if something was in an email. So that was very good of him. All in all, it was great loan processing, and they completed transaction on time, but it was a little weak in the area of the rep.

I went with Liberty because of their reputation, but I got very disappointed in how they handled it. Instead of a normal smooth close, it took almost three months because of their underwriters. My wife had a medical letter from the doctor that her rheumatoid arthritis was so advanced. The letter was three years old. They wouldn't accept it because they said arthritis could get better. Arthritis does not get better. It just gets progressively worse. I spent a whole week getting a new medical letter for the wife to satisfy their underwriters.
Then they turned around and said we had to get a second appraisal because the first one was too high according to some regulation. I had to wait for a second appraisal. Then they said they had to go with a lower appraisal. I understand that, but it was time consuming. Four times, they sent a notary to our house. One time it went to San Antonio where my wife was at a funeral for her brother's death. None of them had any briefing from Liberty on what to do. Two of them had no idea how to handle the power of attorney. One of them had no idea how to handle a medical letter 'cause my wife couldn't write. I had to explain to him step by step what to do. For the most part, my experience with Liberty has been positive. I just got done refinancing a couple of months ago, and I ended up with some glitches, errors, and a couple of things that I wasn't really thrilled about but I'm not much of a complainer. The main thing that I was unhappy about was that they demanded that I have proof of flood insurance, which was fine. I understand that because I do live on the river. I renewed the flood insurance policy just so that the refinance could close. Then two weeks later, I get a letter from them saying that if I didn't provide proof of flood insurance, they're gonna buy it for me. So, then I have to go through the whole process again. When I called them, I gave them the flood insurance information.
They sent me two different emails saying that they were going to look into it and they would contact me back by email within five days. I never got any contact back. I'm hoping that they did not purchase flood insurance for me because I already have it. This isn't rocket science. It shouldn't be complicated like this. We just wanted to tap some equity without having to increase any monthly payments. The process took a couple of months. There was a lot of information that I had to provide that I never thought I'd have to provide. It's all related to the government and its requirements. I did have a problem when I cashed the first check at the bank. They put a stop to it because there was some history that the bank found out from the check writer that wasn't favorable. They wouldn’t cash the check right away. It worked out fine. I got the money.

I had a reverse mortgage from Liberty and I refied it. The same guy worked with me and 90% of the process was the same one that I had back in 2017. All we had to do is update it. Liberty had good people to deal with. If I had any problem, I could call them. There was some young lady I was doing business with there, besides the loan officer, and she would either find me an answer or give me an answer.

It was an easy transaction and it went very smoothly. I wish I had done the reverse mortgage a couple of months earlier because I would have dropped another percent. I had been considering selling my home. But I really love it here and working with Liberty enabled me to stay here. The sales agent, Mike, was very responsive and all of my communications with him was excellent. He was very competent and he never let me down. But the mortgage process was pretty frustrating because so many documents were required. And some of them had to be sent in several times because they got lost. Usually, that was stuff that Mike had forwarded to the other side where they process stuff and they would contend that they never received them.
There was a woman, Victoria, and she seemed to lose everything I sent her. About three weeks ago, I sent them two copies of my elevation certificate and they wouldn't accept that to get rid of the flood insurance worth $2,000 they said they required. They said to get a LOMA from FEMA and I did that. But I have not heard from them. As a matter of fact, I was just looking through my email to see if I maybe missed something from them.
I was also looking through the California stuff to see how I would report them to some consumer place there. I feel bad because the sales side was really nice and they have tried to help me get in touch with the people, but to no avail. I don't have the name of anybody on the other side where they process the stuff, so I can't really get in touch with anyone specific. And when I asked for a number to call, what I got was customer service. So, it's more than communication. They're flat-out incompetent and I would never do it with them again.

The thing with Liberty that I found a little discouraging was that I would call and I would not get a call returned and that it took four months for me to get this reverse mortgage and that was extremely long. But as it all turned out, I got the reverse mortgage, so now I'm putting a new roof on my home and new windows in it. I am very happy.
One other thing was that they would ask me for different papers and information that they needed. I would say, "Is there anything else?" They would say, "No. This is it. It's gonna be okay and not to worry. Oh, you know what? We have to have this and that.” This happened five times. They had to have something more. It took me four months before they really got all the information together that they needed. That part of it was a little discouraging, but the employees, though, when I spoke to them, were very nice to me. Andrew, the rep was also polite and very nice. The first person with Liberty Reverse Mortgage that I spoke with was professional yet likable. With him, everything was great. He went above and beyond. It was toward the end when everything got messed up. There were a couple of other people involved. They dragged their feet and made me do extensive amounts of repetitive work. They were not somebody that were inclined to do things expediently or answer me expediently.
It was not a pleasant end. By not closing on time, they made my closing cost bigger than I would have. They changed the closing cost by about $500 to $600. It should have closed two weeks sooner than it did. If they would have come in four or five days earlier, then there would be $500 less on the payoff to be paid off to the existing finance company, and I would have had that money in my pocket. I wouldn't have had to make another payment. With Kahlanie, the last person that did the work, it was like pulling teeth. I would leave emails with her but she would ignore those. My experience has been good. Sometimes a little frustrating because all the paperwork wasn't getting where it was supposed to be getting to. But all in all, I was very pleased with the professionalism of Jim and Victoria. Very good people. The interaction with Jim was terrific. He was always willing to answer my questions, give advice, not telling me what to do, but explaining my questions and answers.
I was given facts. I could call Jim on his phone, record a message. And he would call back with the answers to my questions. I asked if he would give me some advice. And he said, “I don't think I can do that. This is something that you have to decide, not me.” So, he was bold enough to make me stand on my own, but confident enough that I could make the right decisions.
Victoria was good. She was very kind. But there was a communication problem there because she told me everything was okay and it was all done. And she'd call me the next day and say, “Well, we need a copy of this.” But I just sent them all of that. So, I faxed a lot of stuff over again. But some of it, too, was because the rules and regulations of the title company changed or it wasn’t explicit of what they wanted. Other than that, I'm pleased with the decisions I've made and that Liberty Reverse Mortgage does help me in a time of need. The process with Liberty went all right. However, it was a little frustrating to try and explain to them that we wanted all of their requirements at one time and not piecemeal. We didn't wanna have to jump through this hoop and then wait and then jump through another hoop and wait. We wanted to know everything that was required so we could get it all done and not be sent down some trail that would cost us money all the way down and then find out at the end that there was something that would hold up the process or not allow the process to go through. The rate that they based their initial rate could also have been a little lower.
It's a pain to get online with the servicing company to be able to monitor and request disbursement. We still haven't been able to complete that process. Was on the phone with them yesterday for an hour that their computer runs you through this process to do, put in information and then at the very end, they're supposed to send you a code. But the email hasn't appeared.
My husband called and spoke to someone. They're supposed to call us back again today. But if that's how the servicing is going to go with lots of hiccups, that's gonna be very disappointing, ‘cause that's the whole reason for getting a reverse mortgage so that you have access to the cash when you wanted. Not have to wait to try to get through to them and have difficulty communicating with them to access your current loan information. ‘Cause that's the whole reason for having access to computer servicing ability so that you can track it online what's going on. But we were comfortable enough working with them. John, the closer, was very good. However, the person in charge of relaying the closing costs to us wasn't as experienced and didn't understand what we were asking her until she checked with John to find out what our question meant. I thought that was pretty inexperienced on her part.

The process at Liberty was hard and it took almost a year. I was in a lawsuit and got kicked out. A lot of things were in my name that weren’t even supposed to be in my name. The people out in California did a fantastic job of checking it out and following through with it and got it cleared up for the title places. They turned it over to Rosemary but Rosemary didn't know what she was talking about. I had to get a survey because the appraisal came in at 165 and it’s because of improvements and it was two pieces of property. I have to get a survey in order to prove that the property is worth that.
I had enough. Mike called me back and said, “You're too close. Your appraisal came in good.” He said, “The two pieces of property need to be joined.” I said, “That's what I was trying to tell her. But she kept saying they'll survey. A surveyor doesn't put properties together. I have to go a different route. All I gotta do is get to town and join them.”
It took two weeks to do that because the guy that does it came down with COVID and he was out of work for a while. But he finally got it done and that's exactly all it needed. Rosemary needs to be a little bit more educated. Like the title insurance told me, "Put a railing around the top attic." I got a three-story, and I said, “There's no problem. I'm glad somebody’s making me do it because it'll be safer. I'll do it myself.” I did it and took pictures of it. I sent her pictures. She said, “How about the material?" I said, “I had the materials.” She said they needed proof I bought the materials. I said, “Rosemary, the pictures are there. You see it's up. You see what they wanted up and it's up.” She might be a nice person. But she almost made me quit Liberty. But Mike and Sue did a fantastic job.

I had a reverse mortgage with Liberty and I was redoing it for a better interest rate. However, there was something that was a little frustrating in obtaining some of the documentation. I would send something in, then it turned out it wasn't the right thing. There was a problem in that I had gotten married and changed my name and forgot to let Liberty know. Ironically, I changed it back to my original name so I got to do that all over again. But I expected that to be a little bit of time because the name on the deed was different from my legal name. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I got frustrated with the underwriter because they kept asking for little nitpicky things that made time go by, and as time went by, the interest rate changed. I don't think I got the interest rate I could have gotten had things been made clear in the beginning. There needs to be clear communication on what documentation was going to be needed.
I was supposed to get a gift card for refinancing. But someone told me it got rolled into the loan which that wasn’t my understanding from the beginning. That's what piqued my interest from the very beginning when I got a mailer and it said, “If you refinance, you have an opportunity to have a lower interest rate and receive a $200 gift card.”

Marie was our rep and she was great. Communication was top-notch. It is way easier to do this reverse mortgage with the company you're already with. There are technical things that they can overcome that would be really difficult if it was a refinance from the same company that we already had our mortgage with. With the appraisal process, they have to send notaries to do everything. They're in California and we're in Loveland, Colorado. An appraisal guy came down from Wyoming, which really surprised us. But that went pretty smoothly.
I expected a monthly statement and it's supposed to go out on the 1st or the 3rd. The statement that I got yesterday was from the first mortgage and we really want a statement from the new mortgage. We closed in mid-May. I figured it would be in the loop and we would have something by now. We have a line of credit and we want to keep track of how much money is in that line of credit that is available.
At one point, we weren't sure what we were gonna be able to get out of this deal. If it was a certain amount, we weren't going to do it. It cost over $9,000 to do the refi which goes into your next loan. We get that. Marie was able to go to bat for us and somehow, they got us a bunch more money than they were indicating we might get so we're happy with how that turned out. We ended up making just under $19,000 on the deal. That was well worth it for us. We might do this again in a couple of years. The appreciation of our home was just stupid. The was over $100,000 appreciation in the last two years. We want to take advantage of that because it may not continue that way. As far as the appreciation of our home, we maxed out at this point in this market.

Otherwise, my taxes are gonna go through the roof and it's going to be based on their screw-up number. I'm not happy right now. I sent an email today to Tom, the head of the consumer department, telling him to correct this ASAP. They asked me to give them an estimate of what I thought the house was worth. I undervalued it by $20,000. They worked out the basic numbers and said, “Yeah, that would work.” Unfortunately, this was back before all the interest rate changes started. One thing that was kind of irritating though was I had to go to a class on what reverse mortgages are. That took the longest time to get because there were too many people trying to get reverse mortgages. I waited almost a month before I could get an appointment.
Once I got that appointment, the next thing I had to get was an official appraisal of the house. I don't see why those two things couldn’t have been done in parallel rather than in serial. It took another three weeks to get the appraisal. By that time, interest rates had gone up. So, there were several changes in what the actual outcome was going to be. But, it turned out okay in the end. Communications were good and the agent assigned called at least once a week to see where we were and what was going on. He answered my questions if I had any. I've been kind of confused on what the rep said was the deal and what she said is the contract. The interest rate changed and they sent me another copy of everything just because something changed and they do it again. The last one was with the appraisers or the notary, but they didn’t send anything.

And I've received the first payment and they said the second payment would be next year but it wouldn't come automatically. I don't know what I have to do in order to get the second payment.

I worked with Liberty because of the lower interest rates but my experience was terrible. They kept wanting more money from me and they kept saying they needed more signatures. It took forever. They could make sure their people know what they were doing because half the time, I had to redo things that they couldn't find or didn't know. I was so dissatisfied with the service. Ryan, the rep I worked with, was the only one I depended on. He answered all my questions and if he didn't know or wasn't supposed to get it in his department or what, he found out.

I’m finished with the program with Liberty. We got it all taken care of. It was a little slow at first because I didn’t quite know what the heck was going on. But as we walked through it a little bit, I started to catch up a little bit more and it worked out fairly well. I like to be kept in front of what they're doing or how they're doing it, and if they need anything from me. We didn’t get ahold of anybody until all of a sudden, I needed to start doing this or that. I did not receive any paperwork and I’m used to face to face contact with people. This on the computer stuff bothers me a little bit. And I’m supposed to be getting some money in my account soon but I haven’t seen anything yet. Still, Liberty did fairly well. The reps all seem to be nice people and they work well.

The lady I worked with Christine just lied to us one lie after another. One lie after another. We were upfront our credit is not the greatest. She said and I quote, "We don't require credit." Then she calls just now and says credit isn't strong enough. "I thought you said you don't go by credit." "I never said that." Just one lie after another. When I confronted her on her statement, she got very angry, very rude and said, "I am closing your account." Fine. I go somewhere else. I am done. I tried to ask some very precise questions, she was intolerant. People stay away from this company. And you can reach me at **. I understand she has a job to do, but to outright lie one lie after another. I am done.

I got a call from a lady and she wanted me to refinance because the interest rates were down. I really wasn’t interested in going through all that again but she was a little on the persistent side. I went ahead and did a refinance on my loan. Everything seemed to go fairly smoothly. She had started the process in November and we ended up doing the final close somewhere around the last week of January.
the lady was helpful and seemed to know what she was doing. She would just get a little irritated at times because I was having problems with my computer. She had to do some stuff through the library because I couldn't get my computer working. Other than that, everything went pretty good. The rate was a little bit cheaper than it was when I did my first reverse mortgage.

Whenever I need money, I just go to Liberty Reverse. You have to turn over different kinds of identification and they call and ask you different questions about the reverse mortgage. Then someone comes out and inspects your house. From then on, you send everything to them and they get started. They have a very good rate, and the people were nice to me.

I've already had Liberty Reverse once. I wouldn't come back to them if I hadn't trusted them and liked my first response with them. We've had three mortgages with them. As far as the reverse mortgage process, we had some issues with the repair set aside that they took and it took me since December to try and get it back. I just got it back this past week. I had to go all the way up to the CEO of the company and his partner in order to be able to get any results. The process didn't take long after I went to him. I went on to LinkedIn and I got to him and it didn't take long at all after I reached the right person.
Everybody else wouldn't respond to me, wouldn't call me back or email me back. When they did, they were very short and gave vague messages, and still no results. Nobody would give me a phone number for the repair. They took the money instead of giving it to me like I instructed them to. They applied it to the loan and all sorts of things happened there. But other than that, everything went fine. Everybody I dealt with was fine.

I dealt with Andrew and he was very good. He contacted me regarding the loan and I dealt with him refinancing. He's very sociable and friendly. He was a very nice person and was easy to talk to. I told him that I wanted to stay with Liberty but I wanted to get the lower interest rate. He worked with me all the time. The application process didn't take long and it was very easy. That was because they already had some of the information that they needed because we had gone with them before. I also dealt with someone from the main office to do some last-minute stuff and she was very nice. We're very happy with everything.

My husband is deceased and I'm now in charge of everything. I went ahead and refinanced. I got a lot of people asking to refinance with them but I just went with Liberty because they had our loan before and because of their interest rates dropping. For months, I've been trying to get this thing done. Liberty came through but I've been trying to reach the loan person and she's not returning my calls. Before when they wanted to get the loan going, it was communications galore. Now when I tried to call to find out everything, I haven't heard back from them since the loan went through. I'm a little confused. I hope everything is okay. The loan processor and the loan originator work in the same office but they didn't seem to be communicating the way I thought they would be.

Everything went well though the process sure took a long time. John, the fellow that I was working with, was always helpful and seemed like he was trying to get things done. He answered all my questions and I was impressed with him. But it seemed the system was bogged down. We started in October and finished up in February. We were talking about less than two months in the beginning and would up almost twice that. I talked to AAG and they were telling me it was gonna take longer than it should take that was why I went with Liberty. I talked to John and they could beat that but it turned out to be that way. I probably wouldn't have done it if I had known it was gonna take that long.

Liberty was easy to work with. The rep was always responsive. When I had questions, they got back to me rapidly either by phone or by email. They communicated when they said they would. But with the holidays, the process took a little bit longer. We had a few back and forth discussions about some of the items that I needed to clarify. Other than that, it was easy to get through. They worked with me in reducing the cost of the refinance and dropped some of the charges that were involved to make it doable. I wouldn't have been able to do it if they didn't drop that.

Everything was super awesome with Liberty. I liked them. The way the interest rates were, I was thinking I better refinance and Liberty was the natural choice for me because they had been good to me in the past. So, I went through them and it went smoothly. A pre-loan officer guy did all the legwork for me. Then, I had the actual loan officer person and she was awesome to work with. I had to work with the title company that Liberty used and they were good too. The process was quicker for me because my credit score is good and they already had a lot of my information. People should use Liberty because of the way they treated me.

I'm 78 years old and a lot about the reverse mortgage process was hard for me to understand. I just hope I did the right thing. I'm also concerned about the Doc-Solutions Incorporated papers that I got and I was going to call Chris, the rep I'm working with at Liberty, about it. I didn't like that there was no in person service and it was all over the phone. But they explained it and I understood when they explained it. They were very upfront to me. When I asked questions, they were very open about it and I felt comfortable with their answers. Still, there's so much paperwork. I'm getting it from PHH, from Liberty, from HECM, and all these different things that Chris said they're associated with. It's confusing and I just want one monthly statement that I have to deal with.
For the finances, I got a statement and it didn't show what my credit was. So, I have to talk to Chris about my statement as well. It's a different arrangement than it was before and at my age, I'm the kind of person who likes to have them right there with me and going over each sheet. I also wish I could afford an attorney and a lawyer to help me go through all these stuff. But I can't afford it. Other than that, Liberty is a good company and I'm comfortable with what I got. I would have liked to have had more and for the interest to have been less. I felt the interest rate was too high but I went ahead with it anyway and I wanted to get it over with.

The pace, the flow, the contact, everything went very well. They called and emailed us. They checked on us again, let us know what the process was and where it was after they called. So, everything was excellent. Mike from Liberty helped us understand everything. He was the sweetest man. The counseling, he made sure. Every step of the way, he was right there, even when he turned it over to the other young lady. Liberty was top-notch to me. Because my husband asked a lot of questions. I had to school him before we get on the call, and "They're gonna ask you these questions." Liberty sent us the paperwork to read it before we even had counseling. I kept talking behind my husband. I am not a word person written. But verbally, they were very off the chart to me.

The application process with Liberty was horrible. They didn't know what they were doing. When we first had an appraiser come, we hadn't paid off our solar panels. We then did that but the appraiser had not included that in his appraisal. It took months and months to be reappraised. We lost extra money that we could have had, a lot of extra time, and the interest rates went up. That was pretty bad. It took eight months to get that done even though they had proof that the solar panels were paid for. It was difficult every single step of the way. They kept delaying. At that point, you're stuck because it takes time to get another appraisal to come out. We just had to wait and it was very stressful.

Liberty's reverse mortgage process took seven months. I was a businessman for a long time. I borrowed lots of money and I knew what was supposed to be done and I was ready to do it. Every time that they needed something and I gave it to them, then I change the person that I was supposed to be talking to, and then that started all over again. Also, when they started, they asked me what my assets were and I gave them a lot down here in Mission, Texas that was paid for, and it was not part of the deal in any way and I only had it seven or eight months. They went all berserk about the dues being paid and who owed money on the dues like I've loaned money on it. Then, they finally figured out that it was part of the assets, but it wasn't part of the mortgage.

Refinancing through Liberty was as tedious as the original finance was. It ended up taking a couple of months. Most of the nonsense was the government. This is the third time I've been through counseling. They could have waived that, but it's not allowed. That was a waste of my money and time. Liberty was prompt though. People arrived when they were supposed to. They came to the house with a notary to take the application and they came to the house with an attorney to do the closing. So, they made it pretty simple on me. I didn't have to go places and look for offices. It was all handled for me.
