Liberty is recommended by AMAC and I contacted Liberty through them. I really liked my original loan person but he was fired so I had to go with another one, and they could use a little more experience. In the end, they sent me the numbers of the loan and stuff for me to sign without ever discussing with me what they were doing or how they were setting up the loan. I told them that I wanted to set up the loan in certain ways and could best benefit me according to my experience with the counseling but I never got the opportunity to discuss any of those things with them.

Liberty's loan officer was really good. She had a personality to her and her voice didn’t irritate me like one company did. This guy called me - it sounded like he was coughing and it irritated me, and I just couldn’t stand listening to him. Liberty's loan officer gave me information which helped me a lot because I was a little bit hesitant. She was very patient with me.

When I started, I had $14,000 owed to the mortgage company and I looked into three or four different places to remortgage my house. I wanted to be very careful about what I was doing 'cause my husband died in October last year and my income went down 70%. I have a mobile home and only a couple of places do mobile homes. I first started dealing with Liberty in January, and when I first called, Carol was the one I was able to reach and she took her time with me and explained how things worked.
I had financial people tell me not to do it, so I called and told her that I wasn’t going to. Then she said that maybe they don’t understand and she'll explain to them anything they want to know about how things work. She sounded trustworthy and there weren't any closing costs. It was mainly because of Carol that I decided in July that I'd rather have my loan paid off and then I can pay it back at my leisure. I wanted to get the small amount of money and invest in a car that would last for the rest of my life. Liberty put me in touch with a lady in my hometown who came out to appraise the house and a guy came to inspect the underneath to make sure that it was done according to law.
I'm 75 years old and I have a suspicious nature, but Liberty put me in contact with outstanding and good people. I appreciated the guidance I got. Now, I'm paying the mortgage off and I'm happy with the experience, but I would tell people to take their time and check carefully like I did. People can get over their head easily and end up owing more than they'll ever get out of their house and that leaves their kids with nothing, but for the people who are careful with money, it's the absolute right experience. For me, it was the best way to go.

I was running out of money to continue living in my home. And in getting a reverse mortgage, I didn’t have to pay it back. The lady that I was dealing with was very informative and she answered all my questions. And also, I called the Liberty loan officer a few times and asked her questions, and she was very good. The only problem she had with me was she could not understand my rural route address since I live out in the country. But I’m very happy with Liberty. They were very good in discussing my options and the counseling helped a lot.

Considering my age, the time I have left to pay on the mortgage and because I needed some help, I opted for a reverse mortgage. An agent in Chicago referred me to Dave from Liberty Home Equity Solutions. He was involved, concerned, more upfront and active with me. He explained everything and if I had any questions, he was open for my calls at any time and I could ask him again. He worked with me and tried to get things completed along with Karen, the lady we had to go to get this notarized. Liberty's guidance was better than what I received before. It was very pleasing to know that every time I took another step, Dave was behind me and kept me up on everything. It was a great experience and I would recommend Liberty to a friend or anybody else. Dave and Karen were very helpful and worked well with me, and I appreciated that.

Because of our age, we decided to do a reverse mortgage. Eric was the one who initially helped us at Liberty and he was very encouraging and knowledgeable. He laid out what steps we had to take and gave up the information that we needed each step of the way. He let us know what the timeframe was and we were more impressed with him. He was really good and very professional. The loan officer was also very professional, friendly and very helpful. They were very organized and always available if we had any questions, so that was good. They had excellent customer service and were very caring and concerned.

I followed up on reverse mortgage and Liberty is the one that came up. Their reps were all very pleasant, very helpful and very caring. They also did a very good job in discussing my options. My funds were running down to nothing, so I appreciated the efforts. It was long and drawn out, but other than that it was great. It was very enjoyable and the ending was wonderful.

I did an early retirement and not being able to work at a regular job and knowing I needed some repairs done to my house, I started looking into reverse mortgage a year and a half ago. I talked to a lady named Ellen at Liberty and she was always so nice to me. But I put it off for a year then several things happened to the house this year and it was just getting to me. But I felt that life is too short to be so stressed out about everything. I didn't have a job and I needed some help to take care of the repairs or just to get the stress off of my life and Liberty helped me do that.
Initially, you talk to the sales loan officer for a long time until you make up your mind. Then you get put through to other hands. Lisa was awesome and although the others were not as personable as she was, I didn't have any complaints. It was an overall good experience. I've been in my home for 17-and-a-half years when I paid it off and the thought of having to get a reverse mortgage for it scared me. But it was something that I had to do and Liberty was there for me and I'm glad. The process was lengthy and there was a lot of paperwork, but everybody was there to try to help me out.

My husband and I are seniors, and a reverse mortgage was something I wanted to take advantage of. I talked to Liberty and the next day I had information in the mail. They were informative and I found out some things that I didn’t know about reverse mortgages. And we also talked to a counselor, so that helped a lot. At first, I was skeptical and I was wondering why Ocwen was pushing for Liberty. After talking with them and Ocwen, they convinced me that they were two separate companies under the same parent company. Also, I was concerned at first because we had wanted to get refinancing for the lower interest rate, but they said they couldn’t do it because we were not behind on our mortgage. It didn’t sound right, but then they suggested we do a home equity loan. We thought about it for about a year and then we decided to do it.
During the process, I had a problem with my roof, and I thought that I would have to come up front with money, at first, to repair it. And they have given me until the next year to repair it because it’s raining in my house. But in a couple of weeks, we got that cleared up and everything went smoothly. Once they said my loan was final and we worked out all the details, like the repairs that I had to make, they sent me the money and it was great. So, I would recommend them.

A reverse mortgage seemed to be the right thing to do for my wife and I. Liberty Home Equity Solutions called me when I responded to something online about a reverse mortgage. My loan officer was informative and helpful in getting everything accomplished for us to sign with them. Liberty was straightforward in answering any questions that my wife and I had and was helpful in solving our problem. I would recommend them to anyone who is interested in doing a reverse mortgage.

I'm almost 70 years old, I live by myself and I'm short of cash. I retired early and I got myself in a little bit of trouble. With the reverse mortgage, I can get out and do things that I want to do. My brother-in-law did most of the research and Liberty had one of the top ratings on the internet. It was the one we went to first and it seemed to be good. The people I dealt explained it and everything else so I signed up with them. Abby was the first one I dealt with and she was tremendous. Katie was good too.
We had to go through a counseling service with a professional. That was mandatory to go over all of the intricacies of the reverse mortgage. Everything was smooth but I had to make a few phone calls. I have to make another one today because I got a check in the mail stating "for taxes already paid" and I'm not sure what that is about. I was under the impression that I still had to pay the taxes. All of a sudden, I'm receiving a check for my quarterly tax bill.
My only complaint is that I'm getting phone calls, emails and text messages. I'm also getting letters in the mail at least once a day from some sort of finance company over this reverse mortgage. I'm upset about that but I have talked to their rep Katie about it. There are certain ones that they can't block like government regulations. I sent back a form with the ones that I checked off which I don't want to have any communication with.

My wife is very sick and we don’t have any long term medical insurance. Sooner or later, one of us is going to wind up in an institution that’s going to drain a lot of our money. Looking at my assets, I have no way of paying for that, so I set up a line of credit for that particular purpose. Liberty was one of reverse mortgage companies listed to do business with online, so I saw their name and figured they must have some integrity to get on the list. I went to an education process and I was always on the phone. HUD asked me a number of questions and gave me their perspective on the line of credit. They didn’t blow the whistle while I'm doing business with Liberty and Len, the guy I worked with, thought that the line of credit was very helpful.
Len has been very helpful in assisting me. If I have any questions, I call him and he picks up the phone and answers the question. I went through the process as if I were going to move into a reverse mortgage except that Liberty had an independent party to assess the market value of the house and based on that, they set up a line of credit, which I have access to whenever I need it. It's almost a seamless process and it operates exactly the way they said. The institution that works with Liberty sends me a monthly statement, which tells me how much money I have in my line of credit, how much it has grown and what the rate of interest is. Also, I get a sheet of paper attached to a rundown, which allows me to request money without any questions asked.
I'm eligible for $80,000. I can write that amount down and they’ll send it to me. If I don’t use the money, there is no reverse mortgage, but if I get pushed into a point where I have to use that line of credit, then I can use all of it, a portion of it, or a little of it. I have the opportunity to pay it back if I want and while the money in the line of credit is not being used, it's earning interest. My experience has been very good and I'm satisfied.

My wife recently passed and my income had been reduced by a third. I needed a way to live without having to go on welfare and I thought there's an investment in the house and I don’t have anyone else to need to have it. My kids are well off and even though they don’t come visit me I go visit them. I was also facing possible cataract surgery and I didn’t have enough money to do that even with my Medicare supplement chipping in. I went online looking for a reverse mortgage and I was attracted to the title, Liberty. So that’s the one that I clicked on and started answering questions.
I first spoke with Jonathan and he was wonderful. He walked me through the paces and I must have talked to him by phone a dozen times at least. Even in the end, I followed up with him because I wasn’t getting the answers that I needed. But locally when it got put through to the closing, I understood the paperwork and everything seemed to go through okay. When I was beginning to wonder as to the taxes that needed to be paid and I wasn’t sure of how I would know that had been done, Jonathan gave the name of the group that’s handling the money that’s available to me the first year. I did the phone thing on that and even though I put in all the information, they didn’t seem to have me loaded in. So I did the wisest thing and called the treasurer department here at the City of Portland. I asked them to look up whether it had been paid then I got a call back on the day that it was due which said that it had been paid.
There were also a couple of other reps that were very good at follow up. I got a call every other day in the process that let me know what steps were being done and where I would be looking. It was on the 23rd of August that the closing occurred and three days later, in the period that I could have said no, I saw the deposit put in the bank account and that allowed me to pay a couple of debts that I planned to do initially. I was pleasantly surprised that things happened as quickly as they did. Liberty's reps have well-mastered their process and everything is going very well.

Liberty was recommended by a friend of mine. Their loan officer was very thorough, concise, precise, and he explained everything. The whole process took six weeks, which was a little longer. We bought and paid for this place and we've been here for 11 years, and it wasn’t put in our name. So, we had to jump through some hoops, and if it hadn’t been for that, the process would have taken four weeks. Overall, it was a very pleasurable experience. Doing a reverse mortgage seemed the wisest thing to do, and we're very happy we went with Liberty. And if I had to do it over again, I would definitely go back to them. I would also recommend them to anyone I know.

Our niece works for Liberty and she told us about their company. Because of our age, we decided to choose a reverse mortgage. We looked at another company, but we liked the persons from Liberty that we were working with. We worked with Carol and another young lady named Yvette. The process was arduous because of HUD and all the stipulations that they have, plus the loan stuff and the builder. But Carol was a good worker and was very much on it. She pursued everything she could until we reached the stop-gap waiting for somebody else to do something. Yvette had the part of getting the application to the underwriter and getting through that. It was a tiring process but we'd still recommend Liberty. We liked them, they did a good job and the difficulties we had were not their doing.

I don’t have children so I'm not worried about leaving anything but I'd rather not have a loan against the house. I've been on disability for 15 years and when I was first sick, my insurance company cancelled me and I was homeless for a while. A reverse mortgage was so much easier than going through the bank and Liberty Home Equity Solutions was recommended by my neighbor Linda. At that time, I actually had not done my research and I was convinced that I would eventually lose my home. I really needed to know that that would not happen and the Liberty team was able to calmly, logically and naturally explain everything. My very first experience put me at ease about making the decision to get the loan and working with this particular person. And then, the next person was great too and everybody has been super nice. They've made sure I'm absolutely comfortable with the process and I do not hesitate to call if I have any questions at all.

I had quite a difficulty with the first person. He wasn’t able to understand what I wanted. But it seemed like Liberty had it together. The experience was a fairly pleasant experience when I got a hold of the right person who had the right answers. I worked with four of their representatives and three of them were pretty good. One of them was a bit naive to the whole process, but the last person who I spoke to was the most informative. The process took no more than two weeks which was very quick. The appraisal came through in three days after I requested for it. There was one incident when they wanted to close the day I was talking to them on the phone and I wasn’t quite ready for that so we closed the next day. It would’ve been faster had I gone ahead and closed the day they wanted to close on.

The first guy I talked to was Gary. I talked to about four different home equity companies and I decided to go with Liberty, because with the way I wanted to use it, Gary told me they'd work best for me and I agreed with him. Then he passed me along to another gal who did a fine job and we got it done. So far so good and I got all my questions answered. I haven't taken any of the money out yet, but it's there and ready to be used. It's nice to know that it's there if I needed it. I don't know if that changed my life, but it’s taken some pressure off my brain. Plus currently, I wouldn't have to sell my house right away and I have time to sell it.
There were a couple of things in the process that I didn't like, for instance, the unbelievable amount of paperwork and signing. I could not believe that it was necessary. Plus, they wanted to know everything about my finances, when it should have just been about the house. I don't know if that's a Liberty thing though. Why do they need to know if I have other properties or if I have other businesses or how much money is in my IRA. I didn't think it was any of their business because it's a home equity loan. It should just be what's the value of the house. They gave me 40 percent of the value of the house, so why did they need all that extra information, all documented? But the people that I was dealing with, I told them the same thing and they just said, that's what they tell them you got to get. So if there's anything in the process I would change, it would be that.

My son used to sell real estate and he looked into seven reverse mortgage providers, and he said Liberty was the best option for me. I took his advice. Liberty's loan officer was very pleasant, courteous and patient. She had a lot of information, which she explained to my son who then made it easier for me to understand. The process went smoothly because I had gone through Citigroup three months ago and tried to get a loan. The things that I needed when I got to Liberty already had the information.
At first, I thought that I would have to go to different places because I had to take a test and I had to have paperwork and stuff. Liberty came to my home and when I needed to send something, they sent envelopes with the paperwork in it and then I brought it to the FedEx place. The process scared me at first, but they made it easy. I learned a lot going through it. It was a little stressful because you never know what they're going to ask you for. When they needed the original birth certificate, which was one of the last things I had to come up with, I didn’t have it. But they took the brown one I had instead of the original. Overall, it was a great and enlightening experience.

He left me his phone number and I decided to go with him and Liberty Home Equity Solutions. I've been reading up on reverse mortgages and I knew what to expect. Greg confirmed everything that I thought but there was no pressure on his part at all. We were both worn because three months ago I had a really bad appraiser but everything went so smooth.
I've been having a rough time and he guided me. I've been very ill from 2012 and he knew it. An ileostomy was done right in the middle of us working on this. I live in Tacoma and I went down to Arizona a month after I had the ileostomy to help my daughter out. We did the majority of the paperwork down in Arizona. He set it up down there and the lady came on there. But I also got my first check down in Arizona so they already started to work here on my house before I even got home and it was odd to come home and start paying people. I'm the youngest son and I've lived here all my life. I'm 61 and I'm bound to my mother since she's been through three different accidents. She's 93 and she's having abandonment issues, memory loss and a little bit of dementia. She's gone through two nursing home type of rehabs and based on the way she was treated, I didn't want her to have to go through all of that. The alternative was to keep her in her home but she can't get around on her own, cook or keep her balance. She's had constant care and I've been paying for the doctors. I'd like keeping the home too but I'm not making any money. I'm really living off of her Social Security and this house until I get to 65 but I don’t know if we're going to make it at this rate.
We were running out of money and I didn’t know what we were going to do. Liberty Home Equity Solutions gave us a call and we talked about how this market was the seller’s market and that the value of the house had gone up. I researched that and it was the stopgap for us. Greg was our loan officer and he was always attentive to our needs. He asked the right questions and when he made a suggestion, he would research it for us. He would also tell us what he's done with other people and made it seem like we weren't alone and that this wasn't a unique situation.
Everything melted together and it wouldn't have happened unless I had somebody who knew what they were doing. Greg was very good and we got along great. Working with Liberty kept my mother in the house and happy. It also got me a burr under my saddle to get going on selling some things and trying to do some stuff. I've got a little bit of property and I'd like to do more audio book narrations. All in all, they were thorough and professional, and they looked out for their customers.

I've had a reverse mortgage before but when I called to see if I could do a new loan, that company said they don't do loans anymore and they gave me the number of Liberty. When I started, Liberty rep Mika was a darling. We got along so well because I've done this before so I knew what I was doing. She said we should be able to get the loan done in 30 days and that it's going to be an easy one. Every time I called, she was there. That first part went really well because, right away, I got my test done at the first weekend, so we didn’t have to wait on that. Then she turned me over to Chris which was a big mistake. He was very nice, but everything took twice as long. He was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. This loan ended up taking me almost 3 months, which is ridiculous. I would never do that again. Plus, they didn’t compensate me for having so much trouble and waiting so long. I would never recommend them to anyone.

I was looking for a reverse mortgage and Liberty Home Equity Solutions was one of the larger names that came up and it looked reasonable. With a reverse mortgage, my responsibility to pay back does not necessarily have to happen and I let them take the account out of my estate. The Liberty reps were very knowledgeable and quick to send me paperwork that I needed to review. They started with one man and after they got me going, they transferred my mortgage over to another department which carried me on through where I was able to start receiving the money. Other than the fact that I had writer’s cramp after I got to sign all the papers, everything else was okay and they did a very good job. They were very professional and they let me know what happened. They deserve a raise and a coffee break after I got through asking all kinds of questions.

I decided I wanted to move. I could afford the amount of the house that I wanted, but it wasn’t going to give me any money that I could be saving. Someone suggested reverse mortgage purchase. I've heard of reverse mortgages but not reverse mortgage purchase so I did some research on it. My realtor recommended Liberty. My realtor has never done reverse mortgages before so this was a really big learning experience for them. They really appreciated me because they ended up having a class. They gave me two choices. I called one person but the guy didn’t call me so I’m not sure who they were with. And then the lady with Liberty called me back so I went with them.
Their rep, Jenna was great and super nice. She always called me back or texted me and made everything clear. Since I had sold my house, I was staying at a hotel then. Their rep drove over, and we met, and I had to sign a bunch of papers. She was super nice. Every time I had a question she always called me back, or she texted me. We did a lot of it and she made everything really clear. I learned more because the counseling was different from the first counseling that I took with the guy that my Charles Schwab people gave me. She said that they change it up every once in a while and the one I had had been a year since. I like her and recommended a couple of people that I know that were thinking about doing this too. Overall, it was a wonderful and great experience.

I heard about the reverse mortgage on TV, went online to check out the company, inquired on reverse mortgages and Liberty was one of the two companies that answered. Liberty called me and I talked to Thomas. By that time, I received another call from AIG, but that lady wasn’t very receptive and didn’t have the quality like Thomas had. She needed to get some classes on how to talk to people. Thomas, on the other hand, explained everything in detail to me. Every question I had was answered right away, and I felt very, very comfortable. He’s the best and Liberty should hire more people like him.
I consulted my son because he was the one who told me to start looking into reverse mortgages because my three surviving children have expressed that they were not interested in getting my house from loan. They thought that I should take advantage of being able to use that money for whatever I needed now before I’m gone. My son and I were inquiring about all the questions we had and we found out that in my situation, that was the best thing for me to do. We both went through the counseling session by phone and it was a three-way line. All the questions we had were answered to our satisfaction and I moved forward with that.
Thomas had my case and we went through almost three-fourths of the way when he was told to pass me on to one of his associates. After Thomas passed me onto a young lady, I had to wait until she got the answers that I was seeking and that only raised the thing that put my case. It took about two-and-a-half months to wrap, which was a little too long. The young lady sounded like she was new on the job and wasn't very much up on all the issues involved. Liberty should let the same person handling the case stay until everything is taken care of from start to end.
There were some points when I felt like giving up because it was taking too long, but it also involved the appraiser. The first appraiser Liberty hired came, did everything and vanished. Thomas and I were waiting to hear from the appraiser and it took about two or three weeks. Liberty decided to hire somebody else and that second one did a good job. Those delays are inevitable because they’re not under the direct control of Liberty, but those put clients like myself on edge because it delays the ending of the transaction. Other than that, everything was handled in a very courteous and professional manner, and it has the human touch we didn’t feel the other company had. All in all, Liberty was a life saver and they really helped me. I recommended them to my sister-in-law, but she thought differently.

I belong to a group almost like AARP and I learned about Liberty through the Association of Mature American Citizens. My wife and I looked at one other company and we had been thinking a couple of years ago of doing it. But the group that I belonged to had Liberty as one of their sponsors. We also looked online about all the reports for Liberty and they seemed pretty good. We took a reverse mortgage because of the no payment per month. We also figured it was like borrowing from our bank and the interest rate was pretty decent. We also wanted to finance a motor home to do some more traveling and we figured we'd have to pay monthly on the mortgage for the motor home plus the interest was a little bit high. So we figured we'd use our own money.
Anytime we needed anything or had a question, Liberty's reps seemed like they were always available. I'm pretty sure they were in California and we're in New York State but every time we needed them, we could call and they would answer and help us out. We also sat down and talked with our adviser in there from Liberty. We had a conference where we told him what we wanted to do, what we were thinking of and why we were doing it. He gave us other options and discussed other things but eventually we chose what we've done. It was a long drawn out process which took at least 60 days. If somehow, they could shorten it, it would seem better for their customers because the closing took quite a while. There were a few hitches along the way but not a lot. It just seemed very time consuming for the underwriters and everybody to get together.

Back in 2014, I did a reverse mortgage. I went in to take the class to be informed about it where they wrote down two names for me to call if I wanted to and I called one which was Cambridge Mortgage. I went through them because WCC and all the radio stations I listened to talked about Cambridge all the time. It's also a local and really good company. Then they sold the reverse mortgage to Liberty. And last year, I started getting offers telling me to refinance since the value of my property has gone up. One day I got a phone call when I was going to start calling some of the offers. It was Gary from Liberty and since I was already with them and I liked him, I stayed with them.
I'm retired and have a low income. I also had roof repairs and major things I needed done that I could not afford. Plus I had to continue making house payments which I couldn't afford either, so I did the refinance. I dealt with three different people from Liberty. Gary started it out then he turned it over to another gal and she turned it over to someone else.
Everyone was very nice but I found it a little disturbing that when we were ready to close on it, there was a problem with my low income versus my credit card debt. They wanted me to pay off the account I had for for my dental and med bills, and close it. But there was no way I was going to do it because it's the account that I get interest free if I pay it off. They did work it out so that it went through. But from the time we first started doing the refinance, I sent in all that information. They knew what I made and what I owed. All in all, our transaction went pretty good though. They seemed to know pretty much what was going on and handled things. They were courteous, too and it wasn't a bad experience.

I wanted to remodel my picket fence around the house and I had a couple of credit cards. But I already had a mortgage with Ocwen plus I was given a loan, and I had to continue paying both. So when I talked to Ocwen, they told me about getting a reverse mortgage and it sounded like a good idea. I was already with them for 15 years and when they suggested Liberty as the first option, I went with them. The ladies that I talked to at Liberty were very nice and seemed caring. The first one explained the different ways of going about the reverse mortgage and walked me through it. I had a problem understanding at the beginning but after I've had time to read the papers over and over again, I understand it better now.
Liberty gave me a fairly good deal and told me that I got a choice to get out anytime I want to. All I have to do is pay the loan and I'm out. Everything was also on schedule as well as far as the paperwork and the time of the things that they said were going to happen are concerned. The best thing is everything is coming out like they told me and there were no pop out things that came out different. They also said I would get a statement every month showing me what's going on. I've gotten my first statement and everything looks fair and good.
But I would give them a low point on the counseling. Initially, when they told me about the reverse mortgage and I read the brochure they gave me, I asked why I would need counseling since I wasn’t sick or crazy. The lady who first came over told me that the counselor would walk me through what to expect and talk to me about how I feel about the reverse mortgage. She said they wanted to know why I want to get in it, how I found out about it and how it is going to benefit me or ii it is just going to mess me up. It sounded good and she recommended a few counselors but I wasn't aware about them so I told her to go ahead and give one to me.
When we got into it, the counseling was a different thing than what was explained to me and what was on the brochure. The counseling lady was doing it like she's done it so many times and was moving along too fast. She also seemed anxious to get out of it. She should have taken the time explaining and breaking things down into details a little bit more because new people like me who are coming into this program are naive or ignorant. I also tend to think of questions after talking to somebody. So while I was told that no question is a stupid question, she gave me the impression that I'm some dummy and when you go through people like that, you don't want to ask a question. But it's a big office and you get all types of people so it might have been just that one lady I got or it could have been just on my side.

I was always available when they called me.
It took six weeks to finalize the process. It could’ve been shorter if I did in advance what they are looking for. Jim needed copies of stuff and I got them all. But I started receiving calls that they needed two years of this and this. We would have closed in three weeks though. Since they knew in advance what we were going to need, they could have come out with a checklist stating that. Also, I’d like to have a copy of the notarized documents because I have to change my will and I can’t just make stuff up. It’d be easier to go on with legalized and notarized documents. Their loan officer was excellent and the guidance I received from Liberty in making my reverse mortgage decision was excellent as well. All of them were very helpful, informative, answered questions and very pleasing to work with.

Liberty's loan officer was magnificent and I like her. She's very friendly and knowledgeable. The experience was all good but it was disappointing that I thought we will get a little more cash on our hands because of the equity. It didn't turn out to be that way, but still, it was better than nothing. We had a referral from someone in Minnesota and she sounded good, too. But because of the relationship we developed with the loan officer of Liberty, I decided to stay with her. Although the lady from Minnesota had offered us more money.

If I had a question, she had an answer. She also sent me everything. My experience with Liberty has been great and I'd recommend them.

We thought long and hard before we did a reverse mortgage because it's a big deal. We got a hold of Liberty Home Equity Solutions, Inc.'s rep and he made it a good experience. I'm almost 80 years old and still working. I had some money saved and I need to work on my house. Their rep came down and explained to me how it worked and I'm not taking the chances anymore. They used to have a horrible reputation but he explained it in ways, more than once, that it was not scary when you work all your life. You're not losing it. He made three trips down here so he could sit down and explain and not talk on the phone all the time. He told me the things that he could do. It was all laid out good and in layman's term for everybody to understand what was going on. Also, he wasn't pushy at all. He did a good job and I was able to call him if we had any question. He took time to answer it and went in detail. So, I was really pleased with him.

I decided to do a reverse mortgage because of my age partially and the way the cash figured out, and when I called Liberty, they’d listen. Peggy first contacted me and she was a liaison with Liberty. She was fantastic and the best. When I had problems with the loan officer, Peggy would get it straightened out right away. The loan officer just seemed so confused, although she was knowledgeable but that’s once you figured out what she was doing. It all worked out in the end. I hear and tell, and I got a few laughs out of it, so no harm, no foul. They were helpful and got the job done, and overall, it was a good experience. So many people are confused about reverse mortgages and I’ve told a couple of people my age that have a similar financial situation that this is the best thing I’ve ever done.

Reverse mortgages have a lot of bad publicity and I looked into about 12 different companies that offered them on the internet. I talked to Liberty and to the number one company, which was AAA. The one who came out first from Liberty and made an appointment was Lori and she was a very good salesperson. She gave me all the information that I needed to make the decision. I would highly rate Liberty and the people that work for them. But the government had all these people come out, estimate on my house and pick a lot of stuff apart that was stupid. They caused me a lot of problems and nothing but headaches. But it was all done in spite of the estimator.
As an example, I showed them where there was a puddle of water and the estimator put on his report that it was an accumulation of water and that I had a problem with the water system. I had to take pictures and had a special person come out to deal with the puddle. It cost me money. But there was no puddle and there was no water problem. That wasn’t a person with Liberty but he was recommended. They also got a whole list of people to call to tell me all about reverse mortgages and that person read over the phone a paper that they got printed up. All they’re doing was reading stuff off so fast and I didn’t catch any of it. If it wasn’t for Lori of Liberty, I would never have gotten any information. She also spent a lot of time with me and filled me in on everything.

We bought the house from CalAtlantic and Liberty was our mortgage company. I dealt with somebody in California and in Florida. The one in Florida told me it’s good to close, and the one in California said there's no way. That went on for three times and on the fourth time, we were told to meet our realtor at their office at 4:00 o'clock, so we did. When we got there, she asked if we brought anything to eat. We said no and she replied she doesn't have any paperwork for me to sign. We sat there for an hour and ordered a pizza, and she kept waiting for something to come over on our computer. She said I got to have a mobile notary.
I sat there and thought it was going to be a waste of time, but it wasn't. She finally got the paperwork to come over on our computer. Then a guy came and printed out 200-something pages of paperwork to sign. We got out of there about 9:30 that night. But what I got mad about was they said I picked the builders' mortgage company. I'm brand-new to Florida and I don't remember picking a mortgage company. Then they said they didn’t know how to do a reverse mortgage, so they stopped with them and got somebody else. That's what delayed everything and it wasn't a pleasant experience. We got here around the 1st of May, and we sat here till the 12th of June before we closed.
Apparently, they couldn't do any pre-approved paperwork before I closed my other house and got debt-free on that one. Equifax had me as deceased, so I had to clear that up and it was a nightmare. We got that taken care of and everything worked out. All in all, Liberty worked very well and the person that works with Liberty seems very, very nice. She did her best that she could to get us the close. We got closed, we're in and we're happy. But Liberty could have done a little bit better keeping me informed of what was going on instead of telling me I was good to close and then say it's not going to happen.

It would have been simpler having to deal with one or two loan officer or a broker or somebody from their office. I'm sure they planned on making some money which is a good deal off me unless I got the reverse mortgage but everybody I talked to was friendly, knowledgeable and quite professional.
Being that it was a real estate transaction, there were rims of papers I had to sign and it’s so daunting. I sometimes don’t understand why we have to make things so complicated. That’s always a very complex procedure and the only problem I had was I didn’t know who the paperwork was coming from, which office. I'm going to be selling my house shortly because my income level went down and in preparation I have to throw some money into it, paint and do some things. So I thought that getting reverse mortgage would be the best. I went online with AAG and filled out some form then they sent it to whoever they deal with. Liberty and somebody else were rated top two and within minutes Liberty was the first one to email. The Liberty loan officer was very local so I was able to meet with him. He spent a great deal of time going over what it was. First I had to do some kind of a 10-minute or a half hour education thing over the phone. I could have done that without staying with that particular person but I decided that particular person had spent enough time with me. I understood it and so I decided to go for it.
The loan officer went over all the costs. I had gotten a comparison with some others online. I questioned a couple of things and they were able to compete and reduce some of my closing expenses. It was excellent. It was hard for me to believe but they actually closed in my house. If there was any criticism is that I closed in July and after the three-day right of rescission everything was to be released on the 21st. That occurred but when they had done their title search there was an outstanding water bill so I ahead of time said I wanted that to be paid out of the proceeds. It took the title company that they used a little longer than I thought but nothing that should make anyone lose their job and it also had nothing do with my agent. We had to go online and listen to a presentation and filled out a questionnaire afterwards. The process was pretty clear. Plus, we had a lot of information that we had gotten online from various reverse mortgage companies that sent us write-ups and brochures. The FHA inspector had pointed out a couple of things that needed to be done around the house so we set aside the money to take care of that. We did the work and submitted the invoice but there was some problem between Liberty and the contractor on getting the necessary information. But they seemed to know what they were doing and talking about so I was comfortable with the whole process.
I've talked to several different people over a certain period of time including the local representatives. Every one of them seemed to be very professional or went out of their way. But with all the FHA requirements, it seemed like there was always a request for more information so it took a long time. The whole process took about two months and it would have gone much faster, but we had a hard time demonstrating that he lived in his home since all his bills would come to my house. Overall, Liberty took a complicated process and made it easy to work with.

I went with a reverse mortgage because I couldn't afford the payments on a conventional mortgage. Linda, an agent for Liberty Home Equity Solutions, recommended the company to me. She helped me qualify in spite of many hurdles that got in the way and the guidance I received from them was excellent. I was satisfied. Also, somebody that worked in Rancho Cordova, but not my agent, sent me a personalized hand-written thank you card and I appreciated that.

The people at Liberty were absolutely marvelous. Everyone we dealt with was just terrific, from executives to the lady who had the papers signed. We had a person named Tony and this guy knows everything. He takes care of you and helps you. We had our home sold when Tony called us and explained every possible thing that there was. And he was there any time day or night. If we had to call him, he would answer anything that we needed. We then canceled the sale and stayed with Liberty and got a reverse mortgage instead. And it was perfect. We did everything that they wanted done and signed all the papers.
There were a few things that we didn't quite understand after we had done the process. So we asked them about it and they said we don't have to worry and they will take care of it for us. They answered every single question I had until we didn't have any. We know what we've got, when we're going to do it and everything that's going to happen. Liberty is an honest company. And if you had to change or do something, they'll work with you. Everything went well and I'm completely happy.

We are in our late 60s and scuffling to keep our head above water. When I stopped working, it really became our problem. My health was getting worse and my husband had two heart attacks, and it's been the reason we came out from under the pressure. We had to have some place to live regardless, so we didn't want to give up our house. Plus, there was no one to leave it to. Doing a reserve mortgage was one way that we could live in it and not feel so much of the stress of the house. I didn't like the way another company handled us and we were stressed. The gentleman didn't stay in communication and we needed that. We ended up with Liberty and had Mika one time. She connected with me and had a very sweet personality. We went with her for almost a year, but they turned us down.
They wanted us to come to the table with $2,000 and we didn't have it, so we stopped the communication and then after a year, someone told us to ask Mika again 'cause things would get worse for us, so I did. Mika kept me abreast of what was going on and the application went through. I was happy with her at that point because they took a lot of stress off of us. Deborah, the realtor, went to Liberty and she was nicer. She kept encouraging us that it was going to be different this time and that it's going to go through. We never met her, but she had good communication with us through the phone. Even when she turned us over to a financial personnel, I could still call her and she would take time to talk to me.
Liberty made me feel like I was important enough to keep my situation on the table and that they were still working on my case. I like the literature they sent us and they gave me a book to keep my contract and everything altogether. Plus, the person they found locally to come in the house was patient with us. My husband's sight is not good and I have to guide him to the line to write on. I watched her and she stayed patient with us. We were finalizing everything and it felt good that the young people we're dealing with weren't impatient with us. Overall, I had an encouraging experience that although I didn't know what I was getting into, I was led with patience and they understood my situation. They were fair with us and I would recommend them to anybody who was looking to sell or buy.

I compared two providers, and the cost and customer service was better at Liberty Home Equity Solutions so I had a reverse mortgage with them. As a result of our previous experience, I called them again for another reverse mortgage because I didn't want to make mortgage payments anymore. The first time I dealt with them, they did not have a loan officer in Arizona. But this time, they did and she was very good and customer-oriented. However, there seems to be a problem in communication between her office and the home office in California. The people in California thought they knew everything but they don't understand the laws are different in Arizona and that caused some delays.

Liberty Home was wonderful. Michael was the first guy that was working on the case and he was always on top of everything. I like him pretty well but he had an injury that was too nagging. I worked with another guy and I would always tell him to touch base with me to let me know if there are any other changes or anything that was needed. But it seemed like if I’m trying to call him, he was always at meetings. So, I got somebody else who did a great job. Everything was excellent and I would definitely recommend them.

All these advertisements on TV make reverse mortgage sound real nice. You can use your equity money for whatever you want -- pay your bills, take a nice long vacation and live comfortably with just your income. For me I needed a roof so I decided I'm going to reverse mortgage my home and use the money for it. Also I had my niece living with me but she died about seven months ago. I was here by myself and my brothers wanted me to move out and sell the house. I told them that they never helped me with payments, no nothing, so why should I leave them the house. If I die Liberty can have it.
Chris from Liberty was very nice and he explained things to me. Then with the inspectors and the ones who talked to me and my notary it was a different story. But I went ahead and did it because I needed to put a roof in my house and I can't afford it. I was also a little disappointed with handling the money because I heard about people that got reverse mortgage.
I have a friend and they gave her like $6,500 – $50,000 and they gave it to her right away. She got all her money but at that time I think her home was paid for already. They did send me $9,000 but I did pay a couple of bills. They also keep so much money for repairs. I have to have a licensed roofer who was going to charge $8,000 and they kept like $13,000 out of the money. Then I don’t get the rest of the money until next year.
I also have a lot of friends and none of them like the reverse mortgage. They say it's not as true as they advertise it. A lot of my friends were saying that I was crazy to do this. But I explained to them, “You guys have husbands. They can help you around the house.” It's hard to keep up a house. Like when my air condition broke last year it cost me $8,000 and it's a good thing that I had the money. I also knew I wasn’t going to get all the equity because it takes closing cost and everything that I had to pay. Also the people at Liberty that I talked to, women, men, or whoever I talked to were very nice.

My mother is 83 and our house is still in her name. Because of her financial situation and us wanting to keep the house in the family, getting a reverse mortgage was the best solution. And so, we decided to get one with Liberty Home. One of their loan officers, Larry came up here twice. The first time, he came to explain their reverse mortgage. The second time, he came to do paperwork in order to get the mortgage processed. In talking to Larry, the written information was very understandable and they all lined up with what I've seen on the internet. She has had the reverse mortgage for three months and at this point, it looks like it's working out really well. Overall, Liberty was very professional and their people were all very courteous and helpful. They answered all questions that my mother had along the process.

We chose a reverse mortgage as we needed some equity case. Then we checked providers on the internet and we thought that Liberty was the best. They finished the paperwork and we filled it out. It was very good except for the appraisal person and that wasn’t Liberty's fault. The appraisal company first called and said that they had to have the money upfront. My understanding was that the appraiser was gonna come out of the settlement.
The appraisal company was out of California also and they had to get somebody back here, and that took about two weeks. They got an appraiser that was fairly local but then it took him a couple of weeks to do it. He finally came over, did the appraisal and sent it in, and something was not right with the FHA deal. So, they had to come back on that and then the lagoon problem came up, and that killed another couple of weeks. The lagoon took off the value of the property. It was a health risk and so they finally called the county health department and he came out, looked at it and said to apply for a lagoon and told them that it was all right. The appraisal company just wanted a confirmation that it was okay. Liberty did the best they could about it.

As far as my mother's circumstances, Liberty was really the only option to use the equity in our home. Liberty's loan officer was very attentive and he responded to all of our questions and emails in a timely way. They were very positive interactions. The only thing is that he answered the questions as well as he could, but up to the point of underwriting, he didn't necessarily have those answers. My mom had another loan that was being paid off through this reverse mortgage, and the details there were a little unsure. But it was still all right. I just wanted to make sure that it's taken care of, which it was.

Liberty Home Equity Solutions' program suited our needs. I talked to them and they made the process easy on us and unstressful. The girl that handled it was cordial, sweet, and knowledgeable. It was like talking to a friend. She always accommodated me and would call me after 6:00 o'clock when I got home at night and would explain everything in detail. I was proactive in what they needed to do because I was a mortgage lender before. The only hiccup was they went with the first appraiser that lied to them and me as to the timing when he could get out and get the report back. It delayed us for a week but we still closed on the date that was in our buy-sell agreement.

I answered one of the questionnaires online then got about a million phone calls and Liberty Home Equity Solutions was the only one who really understood what I was saying so I decided to go with them. The mother of the original loan officer I worked with died in the middle of the process so we switched over to somebody else. Even so, everybody I worked with was fine and I was very satisfied with the lending process. Also, the woman who did my settlement had never dealt with Liberty before and she was very impressed with the deal I got with them. Besides that, a representative of one of Liberty's competitors, who was not quite so nice as the Liberty people, told me that I should check Consumer Affairs' website because Liberty did not have very good ratings. I checked the website and Liberty's ratings were just as good as his company’s rating.

My brother-in-law died in May 2016 and at that time the house was paid off, but our income was really diminished. I started looking and then I got in touch with Liberty in June of 2016 and they seemed to be the friendliest over others. They sent the information and then the loan officer followed up every couple of months because I told him that we were still settling the estate. Finally, in April of this year, we finally followed with him again for the last time in getting a brand new loan. I was really pleased with the representative that we had. He kept us advised of what was going on and if I sent the wrong information. Their guidance was very good and we finished the process by the end of June. Overall, it was really a nice and painless experience. We’ve never done anything like this before and between that and settling my brother-in-law’s estate, this was perhaps one of the easier things we did.

My significant other and I have been thinking about a reverse mortgage because I’m retired and my only offspring is financially set for life and doing very well. I have no other relatives nor does my significant other. We wanted to take advantage of the equity and the place, and do some repairs so we could remain here in our dwindling years. Mike, the loan officer from Liberty, was very nice to us and that’s why we chose them. He even tried to smooth things over when Liberty itself was clumsy in the handling of the finalization.
For example, when we were supposed to have the money sent, they said they couldn’t transfer it and they’d have to mail it to me. On the day that they were supposed to mail it, my homeowners' insurance company called me and said, "we gave your reverse mortgage people some information" which meant that we wouldn’t get the check that day because they didn’t prepare it properly. None of this had anything to do with Mike but with the rest of the agency. I finally got it straightened and Mike took care of us for our inconvenience. The guidance that we received from Liberty was adequate and there were no surprises. We asked for a certain amount of money, they provided that and we are working on that right now. They’ve been fine and Mike has been very good about follow-ups, too.

Something came in the mail and it intrigued me so I called Liberty Home Equity and we decided that we would go ahead and see if things would work out for us. And as it began to unroll, it was very obvious that they would. There were no dumb question except the one you don’t ask. We had a couple of glitches, but we managed to get through those and it came out with very little wear and tear on us. At first, we had trouble getting someone to check the house. But once the gal came and did it, she had the information back to Liberty within a week. I was very impressed with her too.
For the most part, I'm very satisfied with how it’s gone thus far. They’re patient and easy to work with and that was was helpful. They were understanding too. I’m old and decided on a reverse mortgage. I called one company but they didn’t answer my questions, but when I somehow got Liberty's number, they answered them. Frank came out to the house and he was good. However, there was one lady that I had a little problem with. Frank called when the paperwork got started and told me that Felicia was going to be my contact. A week later when she called and I asked questions, she acted like, “Why are you bugging me with all these stuff?” She got problems. Also, I had an appraisal and it just happened that I had a bunch of work to do in the house and I got the work all done. And when I called the guy that did the appraisal, he was on vacation in England. Then I called Felicia since she was who I was supposed to call about problems and she told me that they were getting somebody else. She said it three times when I called. But she lied.
When I talked to the appraisal company, the first lady called and told me to wait ‘till this appraiser guy comes back out from vacation and that they were not gonna get another one. When the appraiser finally came back, he came out to my house to reappraise it and he told me the same thing. He said he was told he didn't turn the internal papers in and they wouldn't know to get somebody else to come back out and check the stuff that was already done.
One time Frank called me and said that Felicia called him and that that they've got somebody set up and that I was to be notified in three days. That was a couple of weeks before the appraiser came back from vacation and I heard nothing. Frank taught me all he could but I told him that I would not deal with Felicia again. She was on vacation once and I was given a guy who was out in California. He was really good and I wanna talk to him a couple of times. Other than the issue with Felicia, I would recommend Liberty.

We didn't have enough credit to get anything else other than a reverse mortgage. I don't have an income, just Social Security. I wasn't thoroughly convinced on the guidance I received from Liberty. We received a CD in the mail from one of those actors, Tom Selleck. I thought about it and decided to try them because we weren't getting anywhere. Dealing with my loan officer was up and down for a while. We didn't know what was going on half the time but finally got it through.
First, they told us "You don't have to worry about your credit" and "no problem". Then all of a sudden the credit was an issue and then it seemed like one thing after another. They wanted us to have a $10,000 homeowners insurance policy to get something down. I'm not sure what it was. I only got a $5,000 deductible, just to keep them happy, but I wasn't happy about that. I don't know what the deal was then. Our appraisal came in less than what we had paid for it when we had it built. We paid $292,000 to have this house built and the appraisal came in at $291,000.
The overall experience was interesting. It was confusing. We didn't know why they needed an extra $3,000 if the appraisal came in under what I had said it was worth. We've had real estate people and then it was appraised. They think they could sell it between $298,000 and $306,000. And then that's still not much more. We put $150,000 down on this house and we couldn't understand what the big problem was. We only owed $142,000 on it. Finally, the loan is over. It didn't come out exactly like I thought it was going to come out but we got it anyway.
William, Thank you for providing feedback about your experience working with Liberty! We appreciate the opportunity to improve our customer experience.
