Oddly enough, while it doesn't recognize my phone number when I am trying to log in, and to get a new password (I didn't forget mine, but it did), it (the ever so unhelpful bot) did send me a text message at the phone number that it doesn't recognize.

Went to cosign for a car loan for my daughter, who has no credit yet. I was confident because Transunion and Equifax have my score in the 700s. However, Experian has my score at 658. The bank is requiring a paystub to prove I work! Are you kidding me? I have worked hard to get my credit score back up after a bankruptcy 17yrs ago. I have made all payments on time. Every account on Experian says exceptional payment on time or something to that effect. But they rate me at a 658? I am beyond livid. This is not fair to the consumer whatsoever.

Experian consistently provides lower credit scores compared to the other two credit bureaus. They tend to deduct a significant number of points for minor charges and only restore a fraction of those points when you regain your previous status. Additionally, they often promote add-on services during this process. Unfortunately, we need all three bureau.

Unauthorized $24.99 Charges, No Refund, Impossible to Cancel — Experian Is Running a Scam-Like Operation. I was charged $24.99 by Experian two months in a row for a service I never knowingly signed up for. I did not authorize recurring billing, I never consented to a subscription, and the “partial refund” notice they sent never materialized. After a full day on the phone — multiple calls, hold times, and runarounds — I finally forced a cancellation. Then they charged me again the next month. This is not an honest mistake. This is a pattern of deceptive enrollment flows, opaque billing, and deliberate friction to keep customers paying. It’s a business model that profits off confusion and inertia. What happened to me (verifiable, factual):

    • Charged $24.99 without conscious authorization.
    • Received a promised “partial refund” that never arrived.
    • Spent hours on the phone to reach a human and cancel.
    • Was re-charged despite the cancellation effort.

    • Left with no confidence that my data and payment information were handled properly.

Why this is unacceptable and why you should be alarmed:

    • Experian and similar credit-monitoring services advertise convenience and protection — yet repeatedly enroll and charge consumers without clear, informed consent.
    • Thousands of consumers report identical problems: surprise charges, trial-to-paid conversions that are hard to opt out of, promised refunds that vanish, and customer service that makes cancellation intentionally difficult. (Search consumer complaint platforms and BBB/Trustpilot/Reddit for corroborating reports.)

    • A company that collects sensitive financial and identity data has no business using sneaky billing tactics. This is a breach of trust, not a service.

How Experian failed basic customer standards:

    • Lack of transparent signup and clear consent language.
    • Failure to honor promised refunds.
    • Poor cancellation process that requires excessive time and persistence.

    • No clear explanation of how or why my payment information was captured and charged.

What I want other consumers to know:

    • Check your bank statements immediately for monthly $24.99 (or similar) charges from Experian or “Experian IdentityWorks.”
    • Do not enter payment details or accept “free” trials without reading the fine print.
    • If you are charged without authorization, demand an immediate refund and keep written records of every call, date, time, and representative name.

    • Consider disputing unauthorized charges with your bank/card provider and file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the BBB.

My stance and next steps: I will pursue legal action if Experian charges me again. I will not tolerate repeated unauthorized billing, false refund promises, or intentional obstacles to cancellation. Companies that operate this way should be held accountable — legally and publicly.

Bottom line: Experian presents itself as a guardian of consumer credit — but my experience and thousands of other complaints show it acting like a predatory billing machine. This is not a minor annoyance; it’s a systemic consumer-protection issue. Avoid giving Experian your payment information, monitor your accounts closely, and do not trust their “free” offers without ironclad proof of cancellation and refund.

They claim they list credit cards that you're best matched with based on your credit profile. However, they throw in there credit cards that you're never going to get because they get paid to do so. I was just denied for a credit card 3 days prior that Experian had on my "best matched" list. They literally say it in my screen shot that they show you cards based on being paid by the card company. Credit Karma never did that to me. Experian did thia within the first week of me joining.

There is no way reach a live person that can understand the simple need to change a phone number on file. The system continually sends OTPs to a phone number I no longer have access to. I have money in my Experian checking account that I can't get access to, and they continue to charge me monthly for their credit monitoring membership. DO BETTER EXPERIAN. On June 11th 2025, I tried signing into my account at Experian. I am trying to apply for a new credit card and they check Experian so I was trying to unfreeze my credit. However, when I tried signing into my account, the phone number they used to verify my account was not mine and the email they gave me to verify the account ended in @experian.com which is not my email either. In 2023, I had gotten a notification through my bank that someone had added their name and address to my social security number but at the time I thought I had resolved it. It seems that the fraudulent name, address, phone number, and email were added to my account at Experian. So I called Experian on June 11th but could not get through to a live agent to discuss what had happened. The phone menu hung up on me at least three times.

I tried again to call that weekend, but again there was a ridiculous number of hoops and specific phrases you need to say to even get the chance to talk to an agent. They have made it functionally impossible to talk to a live agent if you have a specific problem. I read online that one of the only ways to get someone to respond to you was to leave a review for Experian online. So I went online and left a review with some of the facts of the case. I tried calling again the next week. I could only get through to the claims department (because as I said, it is almost functionally impossible to seek customer service of any kind at Experian). The agent there told me that there was already a case report generated for my case.

I had not been contacted by anyone at that point about this. They had left instructions for me to send in information to verify my account. So I asked the agent to repeat the instructions and then the case number. I sent over all my documents for the first time on June 17th. However, the agent repeated the wrong case number, so I faxed over all of my personal identity documents (a copy of my social security card, my driver's license, my bank statement, etc.) and heard nothing back.

I waited a week to give them time to check. I went back on to see if there was something updated only to find they have given me the wrong reference number, so I sent over my information again (which by the way I don't have a fax machine so I had to pay twice in order to fax over these documents). I called again, had to wait over an hour to talk to someone between the numerous times the phone menu hung up on me and waiting 40 minutes to talk to an agent. The agent could do nothing for me, no one I talked to could transfer me to the correct department to a live agent and none of the agents could tell me what I needed to say to the phone menu in order to talk to a live agent.

I asked to talk to a manager. There was no manager available. They told me the manager would call me back sometime in the next 72 hours (which is a wild time table considering I work) and sent me to another phone menu. I finally got through to the correct department, he told me I should upload my information to a separate link. Why they did not give this link to me in the first place, I don't know. So I uploaded my information to that link using the correct case number and documents.

The manager called back right in the middle of an important meeting at work so I was not able to pick up. I called again and got a phone menu again. I waited a couple of days to give them the chance to review the information. I signed back on the week of July 1st, only to find out they don't take credit card statements. It would've been nice to know that only bank statements would be accepted before I uploaded the documents for a third time. They also would've allowed me to send in a copy of my bills or insurance but I don't pay the bills because I live with my parents. So a bank statement was my only option. I uploaded the documents again with a bank statement from April 2025, a scanned copy of my social security card, my driver's license, my passport, a letter that explained the situation, and the correct case number. I uploaded all of those things for the fourth time the week of July 7th.

Has any single person from this organization contacted me to let me know what was happening or that I had the wrong documents? No. Has anyone given me a direct line of who to contact with questions about the case? No. It has been over a month now since I tried to correct something that wasn't even my fault in the first place. This company is pivotal to me finding a job, securing a loan, buying a house/car, and opening a credit card or bank account. Their customer service is the worst I have ever worked with. They allowed someone to add their information to an account with my social security number fraudulently, and then they can't even work with me to correct the mistake.

I have sent in my information four times now, and not a single thing has changed. I am at my limit. This is genuinely the worst customer service I have ever worked with in my life. This is so frustrating. I had to reach out and call their customer service AGAIN (for the sixth time-45 minutes spent wasted on AI phone menus every single time I called) in order to make sure someone reviewed my documents. They said they would call me last week. No response. They said they would reach out when my account was fixed.

A week has gone by with no response. I emailed back asking about a timeline. No response. I have spent over 10 hours of my own time to fix an issue that is the company's problem to begin with. They wait until three days before the time runs out on my complaint to tell me they haven't even fixed my problem. Again, A PROBLEM THAT TAKES 15 MINUTES TO FIX. I could have needed my credit available to buy a house, a car, an apartment, or a credit card.

At this point, do I have to involve an attorney to fix AGAIN a 15 minute issue for the company? I feel like I am being taken advantage of by a company that I have no way of even consenting to use. I am FORCED to go through them for my credit. This has been the most frustrating, pointless experience of my life. I even submitted this complaint to try to force them to resolve this issue and, yet this did nothing. Truly pathetic. I wish I could sue. I wish I could give them a negative five out of five.

Horrible automated phone system and service. It took me more than 45 minutes to try and figure out how to speak to a live person and this was by chance because I still have no clue how I finally did get a human on the phone. I am calling about a membership charge that came up on my debit card which I did not authorize and the agent in the membership department said she had to transfer me to the dispute department. At first it made sense but when she transferred my call to the dispute department and the agent explained that they should have never transferred my call to the dispute department because they handle the disputes from consumers to creditors not accounts payable or receivable; and that the person I was speaking with was the one who was to assist in resolving my issue.

So of course since everyone in Experian just seems to pass the buck the agent from the dispute department told me he couldn't transfer me to a live agent in the membership department which I know is completely bogus because the membership department was able to transfer me to a live agent in dispute and of course the dispute agent transferred me back to the frustrating automated system which in turn after trying to get a live agent already going on another hour so a total of almost 2 wasted hours, I gave up! It is frustrating and I can't understand why we have to depend on a company like this with our personal criteria. My issue is still not resolved and everyone's time is valuable and now I am just going to depend on my bank being successful in trying to resolve this matter. P.S. This is my first bad review, because being in hospitality for 40 years I always give the benefit of the doubt but in this case I am appalled!!! Very Upset Customer!!!!

The educational content can also be helpful for those working to improve their credit. However, you should expect a high volume of advertisements for paid services and potential difficulties if you need to contact customer service for a dispute or cancellation.

This is what Google says about a company doing commercials about exactly the OPPOSITE of what they provide. Unbelievable, I have seen more problems with Experian free or paid membership than ever before in the last couple of years, it's HORRIFYING, we help clients in credit & finance for over 10 years now and always refer people to Experian. Logged into account and was signed up for a billed monthly subscription that I NEVER signed up for. I had recently got an auto loan so at first I thought maybe bank charged me for a credit check. However, was Experian creating income for themselves from people trying to build their credit? Interesting. 🤔 Also quick point, double checked my emails for enrollment confirmation and nothing. I cancelled and did get an email for cancellation. Through their website did not see a link/area to dispute their charges, only credit report disputes.

IMPOSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH IF YOU CAN'T RECEIVE TEXTS. Impossible to reach a human being. Impossible to deal with bad customer service. I removed my credit freeze from Equifax and TransUnion easily. Piece of cake. Went to Experian website to log in. I use a password manager (actually three, Google, Avira and LastPass) to remember bizarre strings. Experian said I had the wrong password. (Despite all three pw managers saying it was correct). So, I tried their alternate method. They said my phone number was incorrect on my account. I have had the same phone number for 25 years. I don't think so. Next, I tried their alternative method. It asks for a phone number and your SS number. Then it asks whether you want to be texted or phoned. I tried 'text'. It said it sent a text to my number.

After waiting for 10 minutes, I retried. 15 minutes later, neither text. Again. 30 minutes. NO TEXT FROM EXPERIAN. (Note: I DID receive texts from other sites, including 6 digit codes to use.) THEN, I went back and selected "Phone Call" instead. Ditto, for three consecutive tries. Yes, my phone rang once. Not Experian, though. So, being fair, I wondered if iIhad managed to blacklist the number, or if my phones junk number screening app "Hiya" off and tried again. 6 times again. Nope.

So, I called. Up til then, it was like being on a white water raft, not able to make any changes. NOW it was like going over a waterfall. I entered the same type of information on the call. The oh-so-sincere AI voice on their computer phone menu offered to text me instructions. Yep. I tried every variation on that phone menu I could, and I simply could not get a human being on the line. Most of the time I was told, by the computer, mind you, "well, we can't help you if you won't follow the instructions." You know, the instructions I NEVER RECEIVED!!!

Today, I actually received a welcome message, probably from downloading their app. (No, it didn't help. Same monumentally stupid options and no contact.) Did that mean I could now get texts from Experian? No, absolutely not. So, there you have my complaint. Experian MAY have, as their AI voice repeats endlessly, a priority of preserving the security of their data. (Hah, from hackers today?) They have certainly preserved my data from ME!!! It's amazing to me that I can receive waaayy too many spam texts, but I can't get Experian to actually correct their error. And, it must be there's from whatever phone system that they are using. I am getting calls and texts from (apparently) everyone on the planet. But NOT Experian. Pretty unforgivable from a 'tech' company. If I could hear back from a single human, I would remove this review so fast, it would leave a hole.

I am writing to formally express my horror at using Experian's Smart Money Digital Checking Account. I have encountered substantial issues with their account restrictions and customer service, which operates entirely offshore in the Philippines, resulting in financial detriment and inconvenience. On June 5, 2025, I received a payout of approximately $4,400 from my new employment through their relocation assistance program. I intended to transfer a portion of this sum to compensate the moving service I utilized via Cash App, a peer-to-peer payment service. I successfully initiated two transactions of $500 each; however, subsequent transactions of $1,000, $500, $1,500, and $400 were all declined.

Upon contacting the Experian Smart Money customer service, I was informed that my account had been restricted for 24 hours due to "unusual transactions." I spoke with four different agents from Experian's customer service for their Smart Money Digital Checking Accounts. All four agents conveyed that the restrictions would last only 24 hours. They advised me to reattempt any transactions using my virtual Cash App service after the specified 24-hour waiting period. Furthermore, I was instructed to limit the transactions to no more than $500, with a maximum of three transactions per day, and to wait 10 minutes between each transaction to avoid triggering the system's flag.

Despite adhering to the advised 24-hour waiting period and keeping the transaction to $500, I encountered further restrictions when attempting another transaction on June 6, 2025. I once again called Experian Smart Money. Upon making another inquiry, I was informed that the waiting period is, in fact, 48 hours. Due to this misinformation, I find myself penalized as the reset of the clock continues further delaying my access to my funds.

Moreover, I was informed that there is a cap of three peer-to-peer transactions per day, a detail not disclosed in any cardholder agreement or policy documentation. Despite my requests for this policy information, I have not received any documentation from Experian. Currently, I am unable to access my funds, as I do not possess the physical debit card that I ordered over seven business days ago, which exceeds the shipping time outlined by Experian. Additionally, I am unable to transfer money to my other bank accounts, as they are not listed in Experian's search options, and Experian does not have a way of manually adding external bank accounts via routing and account number.

These restrictions have resulted in significant financial harm to me, including the accrual of late fees. I view these practices as unethical and lacking transparency for customers. All of the agents apologized. Said they "understood my frustration." No one could provide a solution, and it was "for the security of my account." Meanwhile, I confirmed my identity and verified all transactions.

Updated on 05/23/2025: TIP: Call 1-800-493-1058 and say “dispute” to the AI, then “new dispute,” followed by “123456.” This will transfer you to a real person (as of 5/23/25). Even if you can't create an online account, the representative can help you “freeze” your credit over the phone using a PIN. They CANNOT actually assist in any other way, except to transfer you to “customer service,” which just puts you back into the endless AI loop. A small step forward, but very disappointing. :(

Original Review: After receiving notification that my SSN was involved in a data breach, I attempted to set up accounts and freeze my credit with the three credit bureaus. Equifax and TransUnion were no problem; however, Experian has been a complete failure, causing countless hours of frustration over several months. When trying to sign up for an account on Experian’s website, I consistently receive the error message: “Oops, we're sorry! We are experiencing technical difficulties.” This happens across all platforms—Mac, PC, Android—and on every browser imaginable, at all times of the day and on any day of the week. The issue has persisted for months.

After calling four different numbers, I found that telephone support is non-existent. You CANNOT speak to a real person. The automated system simply routes you in circles, refers you back to the website, or hangs up entirely. This situation seems like it should be illegal. To effectively protect your credit and prevent identity theft, you must freeze your credit with all three credit bureaus. One star is too generous—I would give zero stars if I could.

My original dispute with Experian regarding a billing error from Verizon was denied, even though I submitted strong documentation. It felt like they accepted the creditor’s word without much review, and it was frustrating to see my credit score drop due to someone else’s mistake. However, after additional pressure and Verizon's admission of error, Experian did eventually remove the item and my score was fully restored. I’m glad they corrected it — but it would’ve meant more if the evidence had been taken seriously from the start.

    Original Review: May 9, 2025

I submitted a dispute to Experian regarding a $226 debt reported by Verizon — a charge I do not owe. I had canceled my Verizon Fios service in December 2024 and returned the equipment using their authorized return method. I have a UPS delivery confirmation showing Verizon received the modem, and my final Verizon bill actually reflected a $47.67 credit — not a balance due.

Despite submitting this clear and verifiable documentation, Experian refused to remove the delinquency from my report. There was no meaningful explanation, no evidence that a proper investigation was done — just a rubber-stamped denial. Experian’s handling of this situation is not just frustrating, it’s dangerous. Their failure to meet their obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is harming consumers like me who rely on accurate credit reporting for loans, housing, and more. I’ve filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and will pursue additional legal options if Experian continues to allow this false information to remain. Experian’s dispute system is broken, and they’re enabling creditors to get away with damaging people’s credit unfairly.

DO NOT sign up for a membership with Experian. You will NOT be able to cancel it! My story: I "think" I ended up with a membership following a data breach wherein 1 year of free credit monitoring was offered. In the fine print, I must have agreed to switch to paid membership once the free year expired. I don't pay close attention to my bank statements but I did finally notice a recurring $24.99 monthly charge to Experian. Thus began a months-long process of trying to cancel the membership. (I would get frustrated, give up, come back and try again later, etc. etc.)

I was unable to cancel online because I could not log-in to the system. They would not send a password reset (even though I KNOW my user name was correct) and when I tried logging in with Google they said they sent a code to my cell (twice) but no code ever arrived. I sent emails (support@experiandirect.com) but they were unable to "locate my membership" despite me providing my full name, DOB, email and phone number. The email response said they needed my Member ID which I couldn't locate without logging in...Sigh. I called their customer service numbers 1-866-617-1894 & 1-888-397-3742, both of which are automated. They ask for your entire SSN (which should be enough) and also your zip & street number (I had moved so I actually entered info for both since I wasn't sure what they had.) Still, they were unable to verify me.

You CANNOT get transferred to a live agent. I even used Rocket Money to try to cancel unwanted subscriptions. Guess what? They were unable to cancel it either!!! I ended up having to put a "stop payment" on the charge through my bank for $36. It should NEVER be this difficult to cancel a service with any business. According to reviews here and in other places online, including Reddit, I believe a class action lawsuit is warranted and is the only thing that will force Experian to stop this predatory practice. I do NOT recommend Experian credit monitoring to anyone.

When I called regarding the charge the Experian customer service representative advised I probably signed up for one of their services in error with a trial period and they would not reverse the charge, however, they would happily cancel the service so I wouldn’t be charged again in April 2025, I cancelled although I was fuming. My instincts tell me this is a common practice given the cheerful nature of their customer service, “We won’t refund the $29.99 we already duped you into letting us charge you and you’ll have access to blah, blah, blah, until April 2025." What a croc.😡

I did find alot (67 emails) of Experian ads flooding my inbox.

I have cancelled the service, opened a dispute, and asked for any fees to be returned. Next call is to AMEX to file the dispute with them - AMEX was the card being charged. FYI - I called the contact phone number and stated "Cancellation" as the reason. Well Experian didn’t pay the bill. I had scheduled to be paid to AVANT a company that THEY referred me to for a loan with money from what I thought was my account that I earned from work at my job. This was MY money. When I called to ask what the issue was they just said, "Oh sorry Avant is blocked, you can’t pay that with this account," and my payment was returned. I ended up getting a charge for returned payment fee. I will be closing this account ASAP. The card works when it wants to and the account updates whenever it feels like it. Experian = EXTORTION. My experience: March 13, 2024 someone hacked my Credit Karma account and began applying for loans and credit cards at dozens of companies. One creditor called me and alerted me to this so a quick internet search of what to do in this situation said to place a ‘freeze’ on my credit and directed me to call Experian.

I called Experian and went through the phone tree to place a freeze and a fraud alert on my credit. After placing the freeze and fraud alert I elected to speak with a representative to see if there was anything else I could do to prevent identity theft or someone besides myself opening new credit in my name. The representative I spoke with said they could monitor my credit for $20.00 per month. I was read a script about this service. I was told they could not prevent credit from being opened in my name but they could notify me if new credit was opened. This seemed like an unnecessary service since I had frozen my credit. When I asked why I would benefit from this service I was read the script again.

I asked the representative if I could get a copy of my credit report I was told I could get a copy of my credit report if I subscribed to the $20.00 per month service. I said well I am entitled to one free copy of my credit report per year and I’d like to get a copy now. The representative said the only way for me to get a copy of my credit report is to subscribe to their service. They very clearly are able to avoid my legal rights and deny me a copy of my credit report. Forcing their service for protection is the dictionary definition of coercion which also seems a lot like extortion. These deceptive business practices prove one thing - Experian doesn’t care about consumers or the law at all!

I recently had a deeply disappointing experience with Experian, one of the three major credit reporting agencies. From the outset, it was clear that their customer service and dispute resolution processes are sorely lacking. First and foremost, the response time for disputes is unbelievably slow. While I expected some delay, I was shocked to find that my disputes took significantly longer to address than those submitted to the other two agencies. Information sat on my credit report for months, stagnating while I anxiously awaited an investigation. This was particularly frustrating because I was trying to resolve inaccuracies that were impacting my credit score and overall financial health.

What compounded my frustration was the fact that Experian did not reach out to the company with which I had the worst experience. Instead of taking the initiative to gather the necessary information or clarify the discrepancies, they seemed content to leave my claims unresolved. This lack of proactive engagement made me feel like my concerns were not taken seriously, which is unacceptable when it comes to something as critical as my credit report.

Given this experience, I would never recommend Experian's services to friends, family, or anyone else. The slow response times, lack of proper investigation, and overall indifference to customer concerns are glaring issues that need significant improvement. If you value your credit and the accuracy of your financial history, I suggest looking elsewhere.

I would give zero Stars if possible. Anything they recommend for people that are trying to rebuild their credit is of an interest rate that years ago would have been called usury. They're more interested in trying to sell you stuff they're trying to work out any kind of solutions not that they're designed to do that but out of principle. This makes it very hard to recover in a world where no one wants to give you a second chance. I finally told him I didn't want to hear from them again and I wasn't kidding. I would tell anyone and I do mean anyone to stay clear of this company it really has no business calling itself a credit reporting agency they set you up for failure. I've never sent them a dime and I still think they owe me money that's how bad they screwed me. If you're trying to restore your credit the last thing you want is anything from this company where the interest is touching between 30 and 35%. It's impossible to recover from those numbers.

They obviously get some kind of kickback from these companies to be referred. I don't know how many of you have ever dealt with milestone credit cards but they received a payment from me at least a week it could be up to 10 days I don't know because there's no way of finding out and yet my payment down is late now I got to fight to get that taken off and after a while it just starts to beat you down. All these one star reviews aren't there just for the heck of it if you have any questions about them and you've never dealt with them take heed of what people are saying including me.

Down below there's a section that says would you recommend to friends and family obviously it's a no because if you ever did you wouldn't have that friend anymore. If Consumer Affairs ever wants to get a hold of me they are more than welcome to obviously I'm not going to put my phone number on here but they can write me a letter then I'll give them my number or call them myself.

However, for the past 2 1/2 months have dialed their number and have yet to speak to any representative. I have only reached automated voice prompts, and they are limited as to which concerns they can deal with. I would suspect that if automated voices are limited as to what issues they tend to, then they would surely set up the system where we can speak with a live representative. This in my opinion is atrocious. I would be embarrassed to work for experience if I knew that customers were being handled in this manner. It’s as if you don’t want to make direct contact with the customers who give your business success.

Secondly, it’s amazing that my score when I started was at 689 or 687. They have been no derogatory additions to my report. Somehow my score managed to drop from 687 to 600, I have since added a credit card with a $500 limit within that timeframe, and my score still dropped instead of increasing. I have made three payments on my credit card and also paid off one of my school loans in the same time frame. Guess what, my credit score still dropped to 600. I am not an expert at this, but I know this is way out of line for someone who is not being excessive with their credit. I also know that paying bills on time and paying your credit card ahead of time cause your credit score to increase. I really hope that those behind-the-scenes are not participating in another kind of racial discrimination under the umbrella of credit lines and scores.

I have had identity theft and unfortunately have no choice but to subscribe to all 3 credit agencies and lock my credit. I also monitor my FICO pretty regularly since my ID theft trying to get it back to where it was. I noticed a recent drop, but haven't done anything to cause that drop. I tried to email an Experian representative to identify what of my own information might have caused that drop as I was unable to find anything after digging on their website for 30 minutes. After several emails back and forth where I mostly got form letters, I finally decided to call. Their robot is horrid, they try really hard to hang up on you but if you are determined it will just make you really angry. By the time you do manage to get hold of someone and then to identify yourself you need to give your first born child your right arm and your left leg.

About half of the info requested was was info that I didn't even provide Experian. After they decided that they would talk to me, it turned out that they also were unable to provide any detail about my accounts more than what I had already found. So, in the end, what is the point of using Experian to track your FICO if when it goes down you can't figure out why? Again, unfortunately I need to keep doing business with them because I have ID theft and that info will never go away.

We have had numerous calls with different options on how to solve it without success. Their system defaults back to the old inactivated account and then charges him a membership fee. We are stuck in a never ending loop, so I am going to change it back to an individual account. Is this Experian's way to get more membership money by not allowing people to add family members to a plan? There is no phone number for technical support and the membership team is useless.

So first up Experian. Now mind you it has been years since I created my account. Phone numbers and emails do and have changed. So how can Experian send me a text, call me, or email me when those identifiers no longer exist. I will take some responsibility that I should have updated that information when those identifiers changed but I forgot. However Experian should allow you to create a new account. As I said cell numbers & emails, do change and in my case have changed. So as of right now I am unable to freeze my credit file.

I received a notice from them recently that I need to reconnect my bank account to the service. When I went to do so, it wouldn't accept my bank username and password. The next day, it no longer recognized my bank name. I researched this a little, and those who were having similar problems were only able to resolve them by signing up for a $24.99/month paid service. I'm not paying for that. That is when my problems started. Even after I gave them a change of address and requested a physical debit card, they continually sent my information to the wrong address. I had to keep calling them just to be transferred from one department to another. There was no cooperation between departments. No one spoke clear English and did not seem to know much of anything.

I finally spoke to a supervisor who spoke intelligibly. However, he hung up on me because I was asking too many questions about why I could not get my simple request for a change of address and a physical debit card answered. As of today, 8/18/2024, I still cannot get to my account, speak to a person fluent in English, or get my money and close the account. Experian will deceptively sign you up for its "Premium Membership" when you try to view your credit report (which is a free, legally-required service), by prompting you to add your card before you are able to view the report. There is no obvious option to decline adding your card and they claim you'll be charged $0.00 by providing them a card they have on file. So after some hesitation, you decide to get on with it, which grants you access to your credit report on the next page. However what you may have missed was that Experian had cleverly signed you up to the "Premium Membership" plan by signing up for a 7-day free trial, which is how they were able to get away with showing the $0.00 charge amount earlier on.

Follow me for a second: You, the wary consumer, are accustomed to sometimes adding your card in order to purchase a free service or product that's advertised for $0.00, so you assumed that this was for the FREE credit report. After you finish exploring and downloading a copy of your credit report, you decide to check your profile settings so you can make sure you are unsubscribed to all their email spam, when you notice that you have this $29.99/mo premium membership plan... You immediately update your plan to the free version, but just in case you're still charged, try removing your card they have on file. Except you can't. That option is not available.

Experian has a long, nightmarish existence and continues to find unique ways to scam consumers. This company has unfettered access to your personal information and are responsible to whether you are approved for a mortgage or apartment. They don't provide anything useful, accept offer services for solutions they had a hand in creating themselves. You can't refuse business with them, without finding the few financial institutions that don't use them. You can't forego, cancel, or otherwise to decline them access to your financial data in lieu of only using TransUnion or Equifax (also incredibly evil companies). So what choice do you have?

Until we're willing to reckon with these companies that make billions off of us, we'll have to continue suffering the consequences from their actions - data breaches, unfair reporting practices, and deceptive business practices, to sum up a few. We can't continue to let corporate malpractice operate like this, with nearly no meaningful accountability to the public.

That should've been an indication to double check and repeat every letter and word back to me. I had no idea he was changing my address. He should've told me. Not just assumed and changed my address. He messed my address up.

Unfortunately, my recent encounter with Experian's dark web monitoring and credit reporting services has left me deeply dissatisfied and concerned. Upon signing up for the trial for dark web monitoring, I expected a reliable and secure service to keep my personal information safe. However, instead of peace of mind, I found myself in a nightmare of compromised personal information and fraudulent accounts. To my shock and dismay, Experian reported multiple Affirm accounts and an auto loan that have absolutely no connection to me. These accounts appeared out of nowhere, causing significant distress and confusion. Despite my repeated attempts to address the issue, Experian's response was utterly unsatisfactory.

The dark web monitoring service kept flashing alerts about my compromised Social Security Number (SSN), yet it failed to prevent fraudulent accounts from being opened in my name. It seems ironic that a service meant to protect against such threats actually facilitated their occurrence. What's more concerning is that while I have not encountered any issues with other credit reporting agencies, Experian stands out as the sole perpetrator of these egregious errors. This discrepancy only amplifies my frustration and erodes any trust I had in Experian's ability to safeguard my personal information.

In conclusion, my experience with Experian has been nothing short of a nightmare. From compromised personal information to fraudulent accounts, the company's incompetence has left me vulnerable and deeply dissatisfied. I used Boost to boost my credit report. I have a company helping me negotiate some lower balances which they did. I've have asked them several times each to go in and say this was the balance, we negotiated a new balance of this amount and it has been paid. This tells people that I'm trying to increase my credit ratings and creditors were paid. They make it look like I'm not doing anything to help my credit report, or my creditors. There are 6 of these individual companies that have not done that to my credit report to help me out. They shouldn't have agreed to the negotiated new balance if they didn't like it.

So I think Boost isn't what they say it is. I might have to start listing these companies' names so that you don't get stuck in the same predicament I'm stuck in, they don't want to help you. Even though they did get paid for what they agreed to. I guess I shouldn't have busted my butt to get them settled. And of course Experian is the one every creditors runs to to read your credit file, and they rate you lower than Credit Karma. You have a hard time to win!

I needed to update a piece of my login profile contact details. Not my credit bureau - just the website, login profile for 2FA purposes. After a month of trying repeatedly, it gives an error and won’t let me make the update. The request goes through, and I get the email to verify with the code, but when you enter/confirm the change with the code, it says “we can’t update this right now”. In short - you can’t update your login profile. So I tried to call and only got the automated system, with no way to reach a human. This went on for 2 months. If you email them using the contact form on the website, no one replies.

Is anyone HOME? Is there still a company or anyone working actually or have they automated (tried, badly) the whole thing?? Websites don’t work perfectly. 2FA is critical to doing your part to keep an account safe. This should weigh a LOT given their major data breach within the last year. Finally I gave the phone a try again and actually got to a human who updated the profile contact info in less than 2 minutes. I’ve already reported this to CFPB and so far Experian has put this on “referral” auto pilot. I don’t expect a reply but the incident is at least logged.

I recently received an employment offer that required a background check. The third party company, Paycom, contracted by my future employer to perform the check used Experian to check my credit and other past details. There were some minor discrepancies in the check but enough to hold up the background check. After reviewing online, I was directed to call Experian to clear up the discrepancies, which I did.

Now, over 2 months later, I was reviewing recent activity in my checking account and noticed I had been charged $24.99 per month for a Premium Experian membership which I did not sign up for. I did not provide any financial information, credit card, debit card or banking information and yet, here are 2 months of charges totalling $49.99.

I called Experian to dispute the charges. After much discussion and demanding to speak with a supervisor, the customer service representative agreed to refund only this month's charge and cancel my "membership." I thanked him for that but still requested to speak with a supervisor to dispute the September charge. I was put on hold for approximately 5 minutes before being cut off entirely.

Updated on 08/07/2023: After I recently wrote a bad review about Experian (Boost), I knew that they would retaliate and they did. They lowered my score by 16 points for no reason. Only thing that changed was that I wrote a bad review. With Experian boost they claim that they can't find your bills to report, even though they have access to your accounts. Experian boost is a free service. After talking to a supervisor, he told me that boost is a free service and that I should consider using their upgraded service (which is almost $30 a month), and then they would be able to find all of my bills. How Experian has this much power to hold someone's fico score for ransom is truthfully criminal. I will not pay for their upgraded service. They will continue their retaliation and my next step will be to hire a lawyer.

Original Review: I will start by saying that Experian Boost is a free service. Even though, it is not really a service because their ultimate goal is to get you to subscribe to an upgraded service. They ask you for your account information so they can verify your bills. I had 5 bills, (services), that I wanted to show. Keep in mind, you must have 3 consecutive bills verified for each service to be reported.

The 5 bills that I asked to be reported were my electric, gas, rent, internet and cell phone bills. All of these bills are eligible to be reported and through my accounts you can see that I have paid these bills for several years. So there should be no problem finding 3 consecutive bills for each of these. Out of these 5 bills Experian Boost could only find 2. The two that they found were my electric and internet bills. Problem is, they said they could only find 2 bills for each service. This doesn't make any sense because as I said I have been paying these bills for years.

I phoned Experian and talked to a rep. They said that they would look into this and file a separate complaint for each bill. I do have 5 complaint numbers and when we were filing the complaint, the rep asked me to review my account and give exact dates that these bills were paid and from which account. We reviewed all 5 bills, listed prior dates of when the bills were paid and the rep told me that within 24 I would get a resolution to this problem either through a message in my account or a message to my email. To get to this point, I had called at least 10 times, been disconnected at least 5 times, talked to at least 10 different reps and in the end, the complaints actually got filed.

48 hours later, when I didn't receive any response from complaints, I phoned again. The first rep I spoke to I told her that I wanted to speak to a supervisor. After taking all of my information and accessing my account, she put me on hold. After being on hold for 15 minutes, the call disconnected. I phoned back and basically went through the same process and asked to be connected to a supervisor again. After being on hold for another 15 minutes, I finally got to talk to a supervisor. After explaining everything to the supervisor about everything that had transpired and giving him the complaint numbers, he said it could take up to a month to respond. He also said, "Well it is a free service". My response was, "Even though it is free, it is a service". They require that they have all of your account information and they still can't find your bills, even after I gave them exact dates and which account they were paid from.

Eventually the supervisor and I finally got to what the real issue is, he told me to apply for an upgraded service. I stated again, "Even though 'Experian Boost' is a free service, if it doesn't work, then it is not actually a service." With that being said, after finishing the call, I disconnected my accounts from experian so they no longer have access to them. My recommendation: Go to "SELF" credit builder. For $6.95 a month they will send all your bills to all 3 credit bureaus every month. Even though Experian Boost is a free service, they just want to have access to your account and personal information. I bet is you missed one payment, that would be an issue, but they cannot find your bills when you pay on time. Consider Self or you can pay $29.95 to Experian for their upgraded monthly service.

If they notified me during the sign up that charges would start immediately after the trial if you don't cancel, I didn't see it. It should be made clear when you're signing up, not hidden in small print. I submitted multiple support tickets on day one after they charged me, telling them to cancel the 30 day subscription and refund my $25. I was never able to speak to a human customer support agent. I got an email saying that all they would do is cancel the subscription, keep my money, and leave me with a service I didn't want for another 30 days.
