Terrible customer service and cannot reach a live person. I had a dispute issue resulting in a 35 point drop in my credit...which is a huge problem that I wanted taken care of as soon as possible. I was unable to reach a live representative on the phone and their calling service leaves much to be desired, disconnecting me when I was asking for a representative. While I realize how companies attempt to force you online at all costs, much to the dismay of the general public, at least if you try long enough you can reach a live representative by saying "operator" or Representative. Experian's system just hangs up on you.
Totally disgraceful customer service in my opinion when you are dealing with something as important as someone's credit score, their ability or inability to make purchases, in other words, their livelihood! I have a letter from the bank stating they reported no instances of late payments, however Experian posted 60 days past due, so they are at fault for a 35 point credit score decline and I cannot even get them on the phone and have to submit by mail. Totally disgraceful in my opinion.

I’ve been receiving emails from Experian ever since I signed up for the class action claim for having our personal information stolen online. I didn’t receive any compensation. I noticed that their emails do not have a link to unsubscribe. I called their number, and the very first thing the automated system asked was my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!! Really??? Who does that? I hanged up immediately, and just archived the email as junk. WATCH OUT!!! You don’t need Experian services. They seem to be scammers. You can get credit report services through your bank, Credit Karma, Credit Sesame, and other reliable free companies.

Experian charges for services that it does not render; they screw around with your Credit Scores; and do nothing in the way of updating your credit information; UNLESS, you take the time to file a Dispute; after you file a Dispute, it take 4 to 6 weeks before the Experian updates it records. IF YOU NEED an updated Credit Report (all 3 Reporting Bureaus); these Experian charges a fee for producing Credit Reports that have not been updated! In addition, closes out its FICO Reports 2 weeks earlier than Equifax and Transunion; hence, forcing individuals needing an updated Credit Report (Experian, Equifax and Transunion) to pay an addition Fee; smooth move on the part of Experian; another one of its Rip-Off Schemes.

Someone should investigate the algorithms that are used by Experian. I have what is known as a "thin" credit file since I am fortunate not to have any debts (mortgage, auto, etc.). I pay off all my credit card outstandings, sometimes just before the closing date for billing. Recently, my credit score dropped by 25 points, from one month to the next (812 to 787) because I paid down a $68 charge on my credit card - reducing my outstanding to $0.00. Because I had no outstandings, Experian said I was not exercising good credit management. That is ridiculous! I have a mediocre credit score because I do not have any debt and own my house without a mortgage. That is crazy!!! The credit agencies should be investigated.

This is one of the worse services I have ever tried to use. Period. Terrible. The online enrolment did not work. So I waited online for over 1 hour to then speak to a person who didn't know what she was doing. She also could not get the account to activate. Her solution? Call back and try again tomorrow! In other words, call back and waste another hour of your time tomorrow and try with another agent. What a waste of time and energy. I guess if they cannot figure out how to activate my account there would be little hope of them ever being able to save my identity.

I always pay off my credit card balances each month. Experian claims if you stay below 30% credit utilization that it won't hurt your credit score. I tested that, and allowed my accounts to show balances this past month but stayed at 28% and my score dropped 10 points. Wtf.

Updated on 7/21/2020: This further review of Experian accompanies my earlier rating. After posting my review yesterday, despite repeated attempts to contact them, I contacted my bank manager for my SunTrust Bank, an Experian affiliate, and the sponsor of the credit card Experian has fraudulently charged. The bank manager was able to contact Experian after several tries, And verified that I was NOT a member of Experian. A fraud investigation was therefore opened with SunTrust Bank. After getting off the lengthy phone calls, I decided to check my Credit card statements. Well, it seems Experian has been billing my credit card for months, Sometimes three times a month for the same amount, $21.95. So, Watch your credit card statements, and be prepared for long telephone times to deal with this scam.
Original review: Experian is crooked. First, if you use their website once with that understanding, they will bill you monthly, and say you did it. When you try to contact Experian about it, you will find it frustrating and impossible. Then, when you dispute the charges on your SunTrust credit card, they will “say” they are legitimate. If you are a member of Experian, and try to cancel, it probably will not happen. On their website, you will be solicited to use their services to enhance your score. All bull.
I abhor dishonesty. These days, it is a rare quality. I hope you aren't a victim of this scam. It is basically the revolving charge scam. A small monthly bill comes on your credit card, then continues to be billed. You overlook it because you recognize the biller and the amount is insignificant. But consider how much is made monthly by hundreds of thousands of take it for granted billings by major companies. How did I recognize this one? I had zero balance on the credit card, and I got billed three identical monthly billings from Experian, on one day.

Experian is not an accredited company and it shows in how they handle business. In their history I have a blocked account, then they have no one with my birthdate or social security number. You cannot have it both ways. Either I do not exist or I cannot be blocked. No one will answer the several phone numbers they have listed so you cannot communicate with them without writing a letter, adding all your private information, then hoping the mail service will deliver before next month. Very exasperating and not good for your blood pressure.

Credit report rises and drops 20 points every month when no changes take place. 0 balance on all credit cards and all purchases paid in full every month on time. Auto loans on auto pay and never late. Why the 20 point drop? No new credit? Call and they hang up on first call then get someone else and they tell me they use an "algorithm". I told her it's obviously broken. This place is a sham and is just trying to peddle their "boost" program to unsuspecting buyers looking to improve their credit after the "algorithm" Tanks their credit score for no reason. Let me be clear about this so there is no confusion to anyone reading it: Don’t sign up for a free account. Experian just ILLEGALLY charged me WITHOUT my authorization. I did not change my plan from the free plan to a paid plan, yet that’s what I was just charged for. There was no indication that they would be upgrading me without my permission. I was not, and still not, receiving any product or service to allow a charge of $24.99. They just upgraded me on their own with no notice. Even though they are always VERY VERY shady about trying to make me click an upgrade button, I NEVER fall for it.
They always try and hide the “don’t upgrade” button all the way at the bottom and so small it’s hard to see, but I have never fell for their tricks, and I’ve had the free membership for way over a year. They should not be able to get away with taking your money and refusing to give it back being that they are one of the major credit reporting agencies. But they are. They are allowed to do this despite all of the complaints by the public. Clearly, these reviews don’t phase them.

I signed up for the services to access a tri merge of my credit reports. It was a 24.99 a month service. I was able to utilize the service for 2 weeks before they begin to charge my card again for another month. I decided to cancel the services, I tried countlessly of the course of 2 weeks to reach to customer services by phone and through the web. I could not cancel through the phone. The automated services asks you to identify yourself by in entering in your SSN, zip code, and numerical # of home address. The automation then prompts you to enter 1 for membership and billing. Once you press 1 the automation asks you if you would like to cancel or have a billing issue, once you hit cancel the automation tells you that they could not find your account and prompts you to re enter your SSN, zip code, and numerical # of home address.
They have purposely made it impossible to cancel any services that you have elected to use through Experian. You will not speak directly to a person, you will not be able to cancel through the web or mobile app without paying any fees in order to cancel your account. This is a terrible services that is using the Pandemic to make money by preventing you to cancel services. If they would use this opportunity to do this to consumers then there is not a reason to trust this company when it comes to the accuracy of our credit reports.

Actually says I don't have a credit score from any of the reporting agencies. The other reporting agencies say otherwise. Upgrade, Upgrade, Upgrade! I have a Total and permanent disability (TPD) discharge for my student loans since 6/18. Never due, never late, never made any payments. Experian has all of these accounts right now as OPEN. I have 2 lines of credit, their records show I have 27! They are not allowed to list Total and permanent disability (TPD) discharges on credit reports. Sure enough, has not been verified since 2018! Not on my other 2 credit reports. Scores there average 735. At Experian it's 650!!! Says I have too many lines of credit open. Says I have too many late accounts! I haven't had ANY late accounts anywhere since way before my bankruptcy in 2011! And that's being listed as open and active too!
So 9 years after a bankruptcy it's drawing my score down. The max time is 7 years. It's 2020, they haven't verified that one since 2011. My entire credit report with these scammers is WRONG. Now they have locked me out of my account. I sent them my DL, Bill's, etc. No, can't get into dispute. I spent 3 hours uploading personal data, dl, etc. I'm still locked out! And I see others on here too are.
Says to dispute is "fast and free", no. Thats what it's required to be. Now everyone can use snail mail. I also saw pop back up store credit cards long closed, from 2003! Apparently what these scammers do is: they can't be bothered to find the account closure date. So they keep listing it as Open and Active. I have 2 accounts. Only 2 in 10 years. Experian right now has listed and verified I have 27 accounts open. And I am Disabled. Class Action please!

I paid down that utilization to 0 dollars (1700.00) in total as instructed through the membership and instead it dropped my score 5 points. When I called on 04/18/2020 I spoke with representative Trisha. Who could not explain why my score would have dropped and only understood my issue and concern. When I asked her who could explain it to me from Experian she suggested I hire a financial advisor as no one in the office is trained to know the answer to my question. When I asked her next what her ID number was in order to contact escalations and inform them of her lack of knowledge she did the “I’m sorry your phone is breaking up. I can not hear you“ line and disconnected my call.
I have been having an ongoing issue with Experian falsely and wrongfully decreasing my score and not helping me in understanding why. They falsely advertise that purchasing their membership is geared to help consumers in their process of credit rebuilding but do not help when you call. This is now my second complaint being filed with consumer finance on Experian since March 2020 and I still have yet to get any answers or return calls from someone more educated in the area. Not a single person (there were 5) talked to knew how to combine the accounts successfully, let alone help us understand what the different levels of service and options were. I also wanted to understand what were my best options for creating accounts for my 2 sons who are disabled, who I am legal guardian for.
I finally asked if there was someone I could speak with who understood the ADA or disability law. Even though my current understanding is that I need to send in a bunch of paperwork for validation (no form nor list of what I actually need to send) one of my sons gets emails every day saying to please complete his application (which he actually can't do). It seems like this was done intentionally to capture more paid service memberships. Very shady business practice for someone handling my credit information, if that is the case. Extremely frustrating to say the least.

My scores with Equifax and Transunion are 800; my Experian Score has been 762 for as long as I can remember. It never changes, even though they contact me regularly to tell me that my score has been updated. They are trying to sell updated services for a fee and I suspect that if I were foolish enough take this option, my score would miraculously shoot up. The right scores appear to be on Credit Karma and Credit Sesame, so I would suggest that Experian be boycotted in favor of the other two alternatives.

However the last straw is when experian dropped my score because because my card number was stolen.

This review is intended as a notice to consumers that your financial/credit history may be at risk due to improper actions on the part of Experian and other credit bureaus. In a nutshell, Experian is violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Experian is promoting identity theft, and in my case, Experian is jeopardizing a senior citizen's financial well-being. It is highly likely Experian is playing loosely with your credit file as well.
I froze my credit account for security reasons. Experian continues to release my credit history as "soft inquiries". According to Credit.com “A soft credit inquiry gives the same information that a hard credit inquiry does, including your payment and credit history, debt management, any derogatory marks you may have and your credit score.” That means Experian is not honoring the security freeze on my account.
Experian states “Soft inquiries are usually initiated by others, like companies making promotional offers of credit or your lender conducting periodic reviews of your existing credit accounts.” Experian honoring "soft inquiries" by companies wanting to make "promotional offers" is an action not permitted by the FCRA. The Federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) states "Only a limited number of entities can see your file while a freeze is in place, including: Creditors of accounts you currently hold, Certain government entities like child support agencies, Companies that you've hired to monitor your credit file.”
The CFPB also states “A security freeze prevents prospective creditors from accessing your credit file.” I assume that a company making a "promotional offer" is highly likely to be a "prospective creditor". That means Experian is not honoring the credit freeze on my account and is willing to sell my information to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that requests the information. Experian is violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Experian does not want you or me to contact them. Experian is almost impossible to reach. I tried 3 telephone numbers. All three numbers hooked me up with a robotic answering system where I had to "talk" to a computer instead of a live person. Experian also does not offer an email address. Experian also does not respond to questions on Facebook. The only option remaining is to write to the company but they may take forever to respond or they may not respond at all, which is more likely.
Experian is one of the worst companies I have had the displeasure to work with. They appear to be violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act and even worse, they are actively promoting identity theft by continuing to release information in a frozen account. I urge you to get a copy of your credit report to make sure your credit history is safe. If you don't like the way Experian or the other credit bureaus are treating your credit history you can file a complaint with the CFPB and likely with the consumer protection unit in your state. Don't procrastinate, do it now.

I recently decided to place a freeze on my credit with the three top reporting agencies: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. Equifax and TransUnion were very easy processes and I could perform online within minutes. Experian has a form and after having filled it out properly with all the same information entered for the other reporting agencies, I was denied a freeze on my credit and instructed to send the request in writing with several items of proof.
I called their phone # to just get it done over the phone and once you get through the lengthy phone tree, you are directed to send the request in writing with the documentation. I then signed into my Experian account since that way I'm an authenticated user and there is no option for placing a freeze. I do however see they have a service called a credit lock for a fee and I truly believe this difficult process to put a freeze on credit is "by design" so customers will purchase their lock option which I'm sure will be activated immediately and not require mailed in documentation. - Very very very poor customer experience!!!!

On Saturday, February 1, 2020 I received an email from Experian "informing" me that my FICO credit score had suddenly gone down by 25 points - from 844 to 819. I looked at every indicator on their website and there was no explanation for the decrease. In fact, every indicator listed there: my credit card, auto loan, mortgage and delinquency histories all showed as "Exceptional". When I tried the "Contact Us" numbers shown on the Experian website, every one of them took me to an automated response unit - I was unable to get to a human being via the Experian website.
I then Googled "How to get to a human being at Experian" and it gave me a North Carolina telephone number. I called that number and was transferred by the operator to a customer service representative who subsequently transferred me to her supervisor. Both these representatives are based in Costa Rica, not the USA. Neither would divulge to me why my credit score had gone down, and instead offered me a "free" way to increase my score via Experian's new "Boost" product, which requires you to submit your bank account and routing numbers in order to potentially achieve a credit score increase.
Being unwilling to divulge my bank account information to the Experian website, I was told that there was nothing they could do to help me and suggested that I find a credit advisor.Experian is a for-profit company that has quite obviously adopted disingenuous, predatory and unethical practices to alarm their clients in order to extract more money for additional membership services. I will no longer be a member of Experian and advise extreme caution when dealing with this Ireland-based corporation.

I didn’t find out about both attempts until getting a credit alert in Oct. 2018 after signings up summer 2018. Upon contacting Chase, they agreed these were fraudulent attempts as the individual was not able to pass the credit identity verification questionnaire to move forward with the credit application. Chase requested that the inquires be masked from my credit report by Experian but when I check in late Nov 2019, the inquires were still there. I contacted Chase again.
This time Chase sent me a letter (dated Dec 22, 2019) that states they again requested those two inquiries be masked from my report yet as of today Jan 28, 2020, they are still on my credit report. Sure, one inquiry will soon fall off in March and the other this October, and hard inquiries don’t weigh heavily regarding credit applications, but that’s not the point. They are fraudulent inquires! What if it was a more serious credit error or if the culprit had actually opened the credit card? Would I still have to deal with such incompetence by Experian to resolve more serious disputes?
Honestly, these inquires never should have been reported by Chase Bank given they couldn’t get pass the credit questionnaire to verify identity, but that’s another story/issue all together. Anyway, I’ve tried to reach out to Experian but all three toll-free numbers just send callers into a loop with no real option to speak to anyone before hanging up. I’ll be filing a complaint with the BBB and Consumer Affairs until Experian removes these fraudulent inquiries!

I am not a consumer that would automatically file a complaint or write a bad review unless I have really experienced a difficult time. I would like to recommend that Experian should modify or revise their automated phone prompts. I was simply making an attempt to inquire why a freeze was on my account. After going back and forth because to be sure I did not hit the wrong # for what I was inquiring about, I was only given 2 options. #1. If you have a security or fraudulent question press #1, Press #2 if you have a question about a freeze on your account. I hit #2 and what happened, the system automatically froze my account, it didn't give me any options to ask if I had a freeze, if I wanted to unfreeze my account or if there was a freeze, it automatically froze my account.
Now I have a freeze on my account that Experian placed on there automatically, then the automated service say if you want to make adjustment to your credit because of a freeze you can do it with your pin number. Just go to the website. Wait a minute. I don't have a pin, if you can't remember your pin, you have to wait 10 days for a pin to come in the mail. This is a total disservice to have prompts put the automatic service freeze your account without you asking just by pressing a number that is suppose to give you options. So this is to anyone calling concerning a freeze please do not hit the #2 because your account will automatically become frozen, instead of dialing the listed number for Experian, please locate the number to speak with a live operator. There is a difference. After speaking with a live operator, that will confirm that you now have to wait for 10 days to get a pin #. Not due to my mistake but an error from Experian.

When I log on to the website to check, there is no sign of the impending doom but instead I am constantly being tricked into signing up for this or that. The very first page that comes up has a button to start "free" trial for Identity Theft Protection that is really $19.99 month. What is worse than this page coming up first is that it seems easy to accidentally click "start free trial" because it looks like just another page you have to go through just to check your "alert" and scores.
Then it is difficult to get past it; do I scroll up, down, click on something else. Where are my scores? No, scrolling down is not the answer. Oh, I have to click on "Reports and Scores" on the banner. So, I click on that. Oh, it's ANOTHER offer I have to navigate! The offer is for some type of plan. On all these pages, the default button that is highlighted (which I'm sure many choose by accident) is for CHOOSING the offer. No scores. I scroll down, again. Oh look, "get your FICO score for free," I click on that. Oh, look. A form below the title "Tell us about yourself" where I am prompted to input my personal information and "create an account." Well, I already signed into the Experian website, so why do I have to input more information?
Something's not right, I DO NOT input information and, again, look for my credit scores. I scroll down. Nothing. Back up. Just the same form so, I have to click the computer's back arrow. I'm bombarded with offers for credit cards, auto financing, articles written by Experian writers. OMG! This site is NOT about giving you credit scores. It is a site that seems to hope you will inadvertently enter information and sign up for some subscription, apply for a credit card or get financing - ALL appeared to be sponsored. It's ridiculous. I'm not the only one who thought it was a one time payment. One of the top reasons for canceling provided by the website says "Cancel because you thought it was a one time payment". I called to rectify the mistake and get a refund. They transferred me around to 4 different people and had me wait for over 30 minutes. Did not get a refund and am not using this company again.

My 3 credit report scores have been typically in the 810-830 range for years with occasional dips when having made a large credit card purchase or taken out a personal loan. Since Experian started the Boost product, my Experian credit score is consistently 30 - 40 points lower. Today 11/24 my scores are 773 Experian, 817 Transunion, and 817 Equifax. I would bet if I signed up for Boost, my Experian score would magically be very close to my other scores. A sad commentary on a company that had one of the largest data breach and then acts like they are helping you.

How are we supposed to trust this company with our most important personal information when they can’t even handle customer service correctly? I would not use them if I had a choice, but in today’s climate, you have no choice but to deal with the Big Three credit reporting agencies.

I tried contacting the toll free number, I got the runaround by an automated system. No option to talk to anyone. I tried contacting corporate HQ, and finally got a hold of someone. A woman by the name of Stephanie sent me a linkup reset my password, but I was again having the same problem.
I called again and talked to someone by the name of Adrian, who closed my account and told me to open another one in a couple hours. I tried two hours later, but the e-mail address I used on my previous account was already in use! I tried using another e-mail address, but it wouldn’t recognize my info, despite it being correct! You shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to talk to someone, but it seems like they care more about saving money by using automated systems and cheap labor than protecting your credit! I just noticed that Experian has been siphoning money from my checking account WITHOUT my authorization! Apparently, ever since I got my FREE credit report from Annualcreditreport.com, they've CHARGED ME three times as a "recurring monthly debit". I DID NOT AND STILL DO NOT WANT THEIR UNTRUSTWORTHY SERVICES - especially after THEY leaked MY "secure" info to the world.
So when I noticed these charges, I signed into My Experian account, went to "contact us", and selected "Refunds" from the drop-down menu as the reason for contacting them. Then I selected "CHAT" and described my issue. Well GUESS WHAT. Conveniently, a message popped up that stated something to the fact that "All reps are currently helping other customers - please try back later" (and I took a screenshot of it). WHAT A JOKE! I'd bet a million dollars that had I selected "new customer" (or similar), a rep would've been helping me immediately!
I refuse to WASTE my TIME trying to contact an UNTRUSTWORTHY GREEDY CORPORATION who is only going to give me the RUNAROUND. I'm a busy woman, I've got health issues, etc and I can't believe their LEAR JETS are more important than MY need to pay BASIC BILLS (I'm on SSD, which they're stealing). Experian, if you're reading this, I demand you refund my money that you so sneakingly stole/are stealing. I expect to be refunded a minimum of $69.81.

They have the most impressive contact methods if the goal is to divert or avoid any contact with those trying to reach you. After 4 days of attempts I finally got through on a phone to someone, this person obviously didn't like their job. I was friendly, explained the issue. They tried to reset my account, but said that it had a problem and I'd need to call back in 24 to 48 hours to have the account reset again, as currently it was locked.
I'm now about 6 days later, and still can't get in. The amazing part is that their own system takes your information, walks you through a "Successful" password reset, only to deny your login after. Obviously this "** doesn't work". But they don't seem to care. Any attempts to reach out and let them know of any problem seem to be avoided at all costs. HOW IS THIS COMPANY HELPFUL AND IN CONTROL OF OUR LIVES WITH THEIR INCORRECT INFORMATION?

I called the phone number and without any runaround got through to a live person. I told him I had a charge I did not authorize and wanted immediately to cancel. I was asked for my debit card number, which I refused. I ended up giving him my member ID to 'confirm' my identity in order to cancel what would have been a recurring charge (he insisted I had signed up for some trial membership that expired) although I am going to dispute the charge altogether with the bank. The transaction was listed in my bank statement as EXPERIAN *CREDIT479343-8126-CA. Look at only the numbers on this, it's the same as what the phone number was listed for Experian that I called. Be wary of what information you give them when you call.

Was charge over $100 out of the blue by Experian. Tried to call but they demanded my entire Social Security Number so I hung up. Waiting for pending charge to go through and tell credit card company I never ordered it. This is a sleazy way to do business.

I called their 1-800 number half a dozen times and each time my call was dropped or I hit several dead ends in their limited menu. I finally reached a person two out of the five times, all I wanted was to update the phone number on file just so I could log into my account. They promised it was updated both times, but it's been two months and I have yet to log into the account I am paying for. It still shows my old number! Customer service is no help and their system is the worst I have ever encountered. When you try to log in via their security questions it just leads you in a never ending loop until you reach a page that says to contact their 1-800 line! It's an absolute nightmare dealing with Experian.

I have had a paid premium membership and yes the one that covers you against fraud and I have now realized I have wasted several thousand dollars. I have been trying to remove an inquiry in which I followed all of their directions which very depending on who you talk to at an OFFSHORE site to no avail for 5 months. I have emailed support 5 times and have spent countless hours of frustration and have never had them respond to me once despite my premium membership. Sure you get alerts for many things but it means nothing when you ask for their help on an issue.
My last conversation ended in me using an expletive telling them how poor if service they have provided and of course never a call to respond to my issue. I am going to report them to the Federal Trade Commission as that is what I was advised to do when I asked to speak to someone in charge or in a position to find resolution with someone in authority. I would advise to find someone else and save your money, time and sanity because Experian isn't equipped to handle the basics let alone an issue of fraud. Absolutely worthless.

Is this company legitimate? You can't get a human being on the phone. All the prompts lead you back to writing in. We are trying to buy a house. This is the only credit company that won't unlock your credit freeze. My husband mailed out the info last week, overnighted for 28.00 dollars. They received it Friday. It's now Friday and it's still frozen. It says 3 days from receipt of letter. By law these 3 agencies, are supposed to unlock your credit within an hour of a request. This agency needs to be investigated (now)! There is something going on!

Would give 0 stars if that was a selection. I attempted to contact Experian which only offers an auto voice customer service option. This malfunctioned and actually resulted in the opposite action in which I was requesting. There is absolutely no option to contact a human for customer support. Pitiful and unacceptable business practice.

I wish I could give zero stars. This is the most poorly run company I have ever dealt with and I truly don’t understand how they are on par with Equifax and TransUnion. Recently, I lost my wallet with my social security card inside (I realize it was a huge mistake to have it in there, I have learned my lesson!) and realized I needed a credit freeze. Luckily, soon after I found my wallet and then tried to UNFREEZE. Experian was the WORST. I tried to retrieve my PIN online but was continuously told I had the wrong information (I think I know my own address and birthday?). I was FINALLY able to speak with a real person, but they were dismissive of all of my concerns and barely spoke English.
I received short, rude answers to all my questions and what it boiled to was I NEEDED TO WAIT 7-10+ DAYS FOR A NEW PIN TO COME IN THE MAIL. What? I am being punished for your faulty services? I asked why the online retrieve PIN feature was not working with my information and the response I got was literally “Sometimes it just doesn’t work.” ...I couldn’t believe it. I fully expect the PIN to not show up in 7-10 days. TL;DR STAY FAR AWAY FROM EXPERIAN. Do not give them a dime of your money, and only freeze if you are willing to tattoo their precious PIN on your forearm.

I was trying to get a fraudulent negative mark on my credit report removed and had to create an Experian account in order to get information on the collecting agency that owned this debt. I don't remember the exact process I went through, but I think I had to pay a $1 processing fee in order to generate the report (so, by definition, not free). That's how they get your credit card on file. I paid the fee, received my credit report, and I'm on my way. Fast forward two weeks and I notice a $22 charge from Experian. Having already been through this BS with so many other companies, I think to myself...oh crap...I bet there was some trial period I unknowingly signed up for. So, I tried finding information about a membership when I signed onto their website. No luck. Tried to find a way to cancel on their website. No luck. I finally did a Google search and found a treasure trove of complaints about this company.
So I called. It took at least 15 minutes of navigating their PURPOSEFULLY confusing automated system and redialing 4-5 times, but I finally got someone on the phone. They said that when I got my "free" credit report, I also signed up for a "free" trial, which ended after 7 days and I was automatically charged $22 for some completely bogus premium membership. Ah, that's why I've been getting three emails a day from them--it's that "premium" membership. Wonderful. So I tell the nice lady as calmly as I can (it's never their fault, remember that and be nice) that I never knowingly signed up for this. She says, “Well it's in the terms and conditions, you just have to read it.” Guess what? I've since downloaded the terms and conditions. It's more than 21,000 words long. And even after skimming it for a while, I still couldn't find where it referenced this scam.
I tell her again that I never KNOWINGLY signed up for this service. There wasn't a giant banner detailing this agreement. The representative apologizes but tells me memberships are non-refundable. So, I tell her that burying agreements in terms and conditions isn't acceptable and that what Experian (and so many other companies) is doing is essentially theft and I that I imagine she gets these calls on a daily, if not hourly, basis. She tells me to hold on one moment. She comes back and says they’re able to refund the money on a one-time basis. I guess memberships are refundable after all!
TL;DR - Experian purposely buries fraudulent schemes in their terms and conditions in order to extract $22 from every person who signs up for a "free" credit report. Likely, these agreements wouldn't stand up to a lawsuit because presuming someone is going to print out 21,000 words of legalese and read through it all to look for membership agreements isn't legitimate. So, tell them it's fraud and that they're stealing your money and they'll probably refund it.

I was reviewing my credit report through Experian. Decided to go and do this whole protection and monitor thing they have on their website. It showed me a couple of address and names I'm not familiar with. I decided to call and speak to a representative which her name is Nancy. She couldn't help me at all. And on top of that I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager. She got nervous and quickly stated, "Why? You wanna speak to one of them. I think I'm doing a great job." I asked again if I could speak to someone else. She placed me on hold to explain to them what is going on. Nancy came back from having me on hold and said, "They are not available. Can I have your number so they can reach back out to you."
"So, first you put me on hold to explain to them my situation, get back on the phone and tell me they are busy out of no where?" This is beyond annoying. Me being someone that decided to look through my credit report for accuracy and come across things that doesn't belong there. I feel they should have better understanding when it comes to people credit report. And should be able to fix it, if they ask for questions so you can verify that is your credit report you're talking about.

Like so many others who have written about Experian it is quite an experience to attempt to freeze your credit with this provider. I was on the phone over and over and got the biggest runaround...press one, press two, etc... I tried every phone number I could get on this company to try to speak to a live person to no avail. I signed up for an account online but did not fall for the trap of paying for the premium services thank god! The other two credit bureaus were much easier to deal with online and I was successfully able to freeze my credit and apply the fraud warning. After that I made one last attempt to call Experian to freeze my credit and that time for some reason the system actually let me finish the credit freeze. Terrible company! I would never pay for their services based on their deliberate misleading phone system.

Was in the process of purchasing a new home. To do so the mortgage company had to pull the 3 credit reports. They all revealed the score except Experian. When I called them about this issue they indicated because I am not in debt they cannot report as I owe for nothing. They suggested that I call back once I get the mortgage. Mind you, I need their report to get the mortgage. True I owe nothing as my cars are paid & we do not use credit cards. We surely should be a good risk. Because Experian repeatedly refused to release or generate any type of credit score to the mortgage company, we lost $1,000.00 that we deposited with the builder. These are the dumbest bunch of people I have ever dealt with. It is scary that idiots like Experian & their employees control your life. Real losers that probably have a score of 300 as their IQ score must be lower than 50.

- two months bill utility, bank statement verifying my address
- last five years of where I lived.
- include my pin # (what good is the pin # if I have to snail mail it in?)
- this is what I remember, but I could be forgetting something....
I couldn't believe it. I tried to call Experian and could not get ahold of a LIVE representative, but instead was directed to a recording stating the above to unfreeze my credit. So, instead I can use TransUnion credit check service. I went online and immediately had my Transunion credit unfrozen. No Problem! Experian, treats you like a criminal. When I set up my secure account on their website to freeze my credit, They gave no written warning that if I froze my credit that it may take probably two weeks to unfreeze and I'd be responsible for snail mailing in all the info above to unfreeze my credit. In fact, they made it sound just the opposite. That once I created a secure account, I could easily unfreeze my credit online. Once the point of setting up a secure account with Experian if they don't even trust their own online account and force to submit A LOT of paperwork by snail mail to prove you're who you say you are to unfreeze your account!
I can't believe Experian can get away with this type of service and behavior especially when they encourage you to freeze your credit for you protection then make it almost impossible to unfreeze your credit. They give you the impression that it's seamless to unfreeze your credit, but it's not. Other credit services (Transunion) is very professional and seamless. After this experience I will not sign-up for other Experian services. Definitely the folks running this company don't care about their customers. Makes sense they were the ones who got hacked. They're only concern is to cover their **!

No one is available to talk to. No matter how I tried, I have to mail in personal documents to remove the security freeze I set up even though I have the pin and everything I was told I would need. This is incredibly inconvenient and I cancelled my membership with the company. Equifax and TransUnion are superior in comparison for customer service and ease of use. Please do not waste your time or your money on Experian. People need to speak out against their poor support services. Until they change their ways..I say BOYCOTT!

I am a victim of credit fraud. It is impossible to talk to a person at Experian. When they control the credit and livelihood of millions of people they should have to provide representatives to talk to. You can mail them. That's it. Good luck if your creditor wants to pull a credit report from this company and there is an error.

I set up a membership with Experian and froze my credit. I have been trying to unfreeze it and it is impossible. The website does not work properly and it is impossible to get someone on the phone. I have called every number and tried every possible option. I have emailed and even sent snail mail with no response. I cannot make a purchase because of my credit being frozen. I had did this to protect my identity, but instead, I was forced to send so much information to verify it was me via regular mail, that whomever opens and does not properly destroy the documents can now easily steal my identity.
This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with any company. If you think the DMV and Post Office have bad customer service, you definitely have never dealt with Experian. I highly recommend that you do not freeze your credit with them. I would recommend not giving them any money for anything because if there is a problem, you will not be able to get it resolved. My recommendation: Just stay away from this company. You will regret ever dealing with them.
