Had an old collection from a company. We moved. Closed our account and they kept billing us. We disputed and won. A new collection company bought the debt and they put it back on my report. I disputed the debt and advised Experian that they already removed it but they dropped my credit 31 points and put it back even though I proved the debt was false. I tried to call but could not get anyone to help. There are so many shady debt collectors. It's sad they side with many of them.

I have as good a credit as you can get, I signed up for Boost anyway (not smart). In doing so you give them full access to your bank accounts, my score did increase maybe 12-15 points. I changed my password at bank so they can't access my accounts, now they decreased my score 30 points on the Experian page, but if a credit inquiry is done by them it shows my credit around 30 points higher than their page shows. My conclusion is Experian wants total control of your bank account and that they only have to show the credit improvement on their site anyway. I don't believe it changes anything, just gets them your password for online banking....

For months, I have been paying down large portions of debt to the point where I will be debt free by year-end. At one time I was at credit card debt to availability ration in the high 60's, and it is now down below 40% and getting lower every month. Experian has kept me in a range from about 698 - 725 for that entire time, and now that I am below 40%, they have me back down to 700! 3 of my 5 ratings are exceptional, with the others good, and the final one (debt to availability) as Fair. They IMMEDIATELY lower your score at the drop of a hat, while painstakingly and slowly raising it when you improve.

It's a scam of the financial services industry and should be investigated!! The lower they keep people's scores, the more the banks with credit card offerings make - and I have no doubt it adds up to trillions of dollars over time. And the reporting agencies are nothing more than an offshoot of the banks! Investigate them, and pull back the curtain on this scandalous industry - Americans would be aghast at what is found!

How can a company allow all my information to be changed by a hacker and they’re the ones that is supposed to monitor the dark web to see if I’ve been exposed to fraudulent activity and then the ones being hacked. What a joke. Want to good company I go to TransUnion. Much more professional.

Experian makes it extremely, and I mean hardest I've ever experienced, getting in contact with a representative/agent. After finally figuring out how to "trick" the system to be able to talk to someone, the agent contacted was incompetent, barely spoke English, and unable to resolve the system issue that prevented me from logging on. All things considered I would rate Experian as the worst company with whom I have ever had any interaction. It is scary that they manage credit for a large population. I doubt my data is at all safe in their hands.

I have had the Experian CreditWorks Plus membership for several months. I do not really know if it helped my credit in any way. This month it would not allow me to log in, they asked me to contact customer service (Computer Prompt). I proceeded to reset my password, then I reset my username. Failing that, I finally called customer service for help. THey verified my name, DOB, SSN, Address and one of my security questions. But, when I was unable to verify the second security question they could not help me. I could give them my current password and e-mail. Unfortunately, they did not or could not help me without the security question being verified. They had me listed as a member and had my bank account information, but could not help me. I gave up and canceled the service. Even though they would not help me log in to my account, they did cancel that same account within one minute of my asking.

If only they would have been helpful to actually get in to my account. When I attempted to reach out to their customer service team, i did not receive any opportunities to actually speak with someone, just prompt after prompt. I was finally able to find a place to write them a letter, but did not find any other opportunities. I do have an email that states, "Your membership cancellation is confirmed. You won't be charged any future fees, but you'll still have access to your membership benefits until the end of the current billing cycle." Which is pretty insulting because the reason I canceled - I cannot access my account. At this point, I would not recommend this service or product.

Avoid any of the paid memberships with Experian! They have no customer support whatsoever. If you try calling, you can not speak with an actual person no matter what the circumstances are. You are given the option of pressing “1” to use the automated system or pressing “2” to end the call. I tried several keywords (including “emergency!”) to get to a live person, and there is no word or combination of words that get you out of the automated system. The automated system is useless, so that basically leaves you in the cold, whether you are paying for a membership or not.

Additionally, the “live chat” feature on the Experian website and in their mobile app always says “all agents are busy,” and never says anything else. There is no actual option to get help from Experian in any way except through their FAQ, which lists questions that don’t seem very likely candidates for the “frequently asked” classification. For both the phone support and live chat support, they list hours of operation, but they don’t actually offer support ever, at any hours. After trying fruitlessly to get any kind of help, I am left to conclude that Experian is running a scam. I submitted a notarized affidavit to Experian stating that the 15 accounts they had listed under my profile that were showing a 90-day late payment were invalid and I wanted to have the accounts updated. They wrote back stating the accounts were verified. I sent them my credit report from their direct site showing how my account payment status shows the accounts were on time and then one month they just show a 90-day late payment. This is against the FCRA and they are reporting inaccurate information to my credit profile. These accounts were never late and it's impossible for an account to have a positive status for one month and the next month be 90-days late. I told Experian in my dispute that I wanted a live person to review this case and that I did not consent to e-Oscar or any automated verification processes. They ignored my request and they still utilized automated verification processes.

I asked them to send me the verified information they had showing the accounts were reporting accurately. They ignored this request as well. I'm filing this complaint as the company has violated FCRA 611 Subsection 7: "Description of reinvestigation procedure. A consumer reporting agency shall provide to a consumer a description referred to in paragraph (6)(B)(iii) by not later than 15 days after receiving a request from the consumer for that description. Experian cannot verify information that is clearly inaccurate. A person can not have a full payment history of on-time payments and then the very next month have 90-days late. Experian's automated system is missing important facts about this dispute and it's causing me damages. If this matter is not resolved I will be filing a small claims suit for

Having paid the $24.99 "membership(?)" fee, I was greeted with a banner, "pre-approved" credit card offering. Applications for one card then another resulted in credit denials. So much for pre-approvals. Worse yet, the applications for the cards reduced my magical credit numerical value. Experian is in the business of credit evaluation but has branched out into the something-for-nothing business. DO NOT subscribe to their $24.99 per month scam as it will do NOTHING to mend your credit invisibility.

If you're in a position to obtain a credit card, do so by all means. Subscription to Experian's "service" will not help nor hinder your ability to do so. If you are "invisible" to would-be lenders/creditors, subscription to Experian's services will do nothing to change that fact. However, I saw I was charged an additional 32 bucks each time I came back to check the accounts for clarity. I then contacted customer service, which took 30-40 minutes because the automated system refused to transfer me to an actual person. As a result of my persistence with the process, I got through. The first customer service representative said that she would take care of the situation, and while I was trying to get clarity on why this takes place, the rep hung up the phone on me. Really. I then start over with the automated server trying to get through to a live person.

I finally contacted, and the second person told me that I could not get a refund for the charges. I then asked if I could speak to his supervisor, and he informed me that, "my supervisor" was "not available on the weekends." I then say, "So; you are telling me that you all are running a multimillion-dollar business with no one in a position of authority for me to speak with on the weekend." I then asked the customer service rep for his ID number, to which he replied, "I could not give you my number." The website sucks compared to the other credit bureaus. I created an account several times because the account was marked as "created", but I never received an email and I could not log on. When prompting a password reset, the website said I didn't have an account. When speaking to a customer rep, he said there was 4 different "inactive" accounts and that my PIN to unfreeze my account was sent to the email of my last account creation which I never received.

I worry about the security of the website considering how many issues I ran into. I would not feel comfortable using the website ever again. I ended up talking to Rachel, a person who claimed to be a supervisor in membership department and she was extremely rude and did not fix my issue with the account and refused to answer any questions, did not escalate any issues to tech or IT, and refused to fix my issue with the account.

Any Customer Service could have resolved the issues (no need for a high-paid Technical Specialist, just Customer Service Rep).

SOLUTIONS: Stop hiding from your paying customers that have specific or urgent account Access requests. The intended usage of this company is to drive your FICO scores up, but when they benefit from a selection they had given, and your FICO drops due to a new line of credit reported, one must reconsider such suggestions. Overall, a good company, but beware of any suggestions regarding the acquisition of additional credit cards. I will continue with them, but will never again accept their recommendations.

I have been working for months to raise my credit score, following Experian's guidelines and paying down debt ratio. I added at least one credit card that I use regularly and pay balance each month. My credit score was slowly going up month by month, to nearly 700. This month, I did my usual and used my two credit cards/methods for purchases and paid them off before the next month. I got this notice today from Experian saying that my credit usage on one account has decreased. Okay. So I did not spend as much this month? I checked the alert at their site and they had my credit score down 15 points. When I contacted them to ask, why?, their repeated response was that I need to talk to a credit advisor, because they are not credit advisors.

What?! That is not even rational. They either do not know or simply are not required, to tell me why they dropped my score 15 points? It is unimaginable. Is this is legal? The credit reporting agencies have complete control/power over consumers' lives, as it stands. Are they not required by law to explain, or to be accountable, as to why they raise and/or especially lower ones credit score? Our entire world economy has been destroyed. How is this going to help get it back? I am now more afraid to spend than ever.

After finding out I had someone get into my Amex account. It was suggested by the food folks at Credit Journey that I contact the three credit reporting bureaus. Experian was the first logical choice due to their affiliation with Credit Journey. I attempted to log in to my free account and was unable. Given that I never used it I thought it best to recover my password. To my great dismay it the partial recovery email address was not mine. This was September 21st. I reached out to their fraud department, who discovered the hacker had taken over the account oddly upgrading it to a paid account. I imagine more information for them to steal. I had a fraud alert put on my accounts and a credit freeze at Experian. I was told that I should call back in 72 hours in order to recover my account via asking me random questions pertaining to my credit history. The wait was apparently to have the questions generated (??).

I gave it after 72 hours and days thereafter and was told the same thing. Instead somehow treating me like the fraudster instead. Let’s put aside the fact that most of these reps English language skills is rudimentary. Their attitudes were from nonchalant to belligerent, as their supervisor Fernando was on Teo occasions. Couple this with the fact that it is now September 29th and the fraudster's phone number was still there, having supplanted mine. While his California address was added. These people couldn’t put two and two together that I’m calling about fraud after this all began on September 16th? That despite my not having a connection to California.

This breach has caused me great anguish, spending 10s of hours to restore my identity, while one of the primary credit reporting bureaus, having been duped, still have the fraudster's information. In the end I cancelled two accounts as a result. One of which I’ve had since 1980. Curious given that the fraudster is in his early 30s. It boggles my mind that a credit reporting agency has been an accomplice to a known criminal who lives on the other side of the country. A place that I’ve never lived. Thus enabling my bank and American Express to send him a debit card and 3 cards. Thankfully all were invalidated before they were received. I would had been much better off without Experian in the way to help turn my world upside down for the last two weeks. Their lack of security rivals their level of gross incompetence.

We shall see if this information to all consumers makes it way to you The Consumer. I have spent time in researching the best ways legally to Dispute / or Verify inaccurate / Accurate information. Honestly if you owe the money; Pay the money! If you do not owe what a Collection Company says you owe or has placed information on your report that is reflecting Positive or Negative; every Consumer has the right to question the validity of that information. Any debt collector by law must provide Who, What, Why, How, and When. Always request in writing best utilize a (Certified Letter); and so should a creditor to have a receipt for your file. If not, this goes quickly to un-civil back and forth he said she said. And with all due respect, is not at all Professional leaving either party with no recordable resource to stand and battle with.

Honestly if you have truth and fact in your hand it's a relatively short and sweet. Read the facts and literature from the CFPB. They do outline the law but do not uphold the law for single Entities "Me" or "You". They wait till a lot of people complain on 1 company. Then Often Strike Hard! I am asking all that read this to please help stop EXPERIAN from unfair Credit Acts of not properly verifying Collection Company's information against Consumers.

To all Consumers always dispute in writing to EXPERIAN, EQUIFAX, TRANSUNION requesting original documents be verified from the collector! If the collector cannot Provide signed Docs Showing the Correct information in 30 to 45 days in paper (the same way you requested, it has to be sent back to you) then it must be deleted or changed. Don't dispute on Experian's electronic Dispute Page. Read fine print. Dispute electronically; comes back electronically faster than writing and the only info Experian says they have to Verify is your S.S. #, D.O.B (anyone can get that now).

Experian sent me a nasty letter. After I had asked the CFPB for help. They opened an investigation on a Collection Company. Company had 60 days to show proof, it's been now 98 days. Still it's Open; No response! Company has no proof. CFPB requested EXPERIAN to help. So EXPERIAN resends to this Collection Company. They electronically verified back to EXPERIAN within 5 days. This letter I received from EXPERIAN states that they will never reinvestigate again. EXPERIAN does need to be investigated.

I had to call their Corporate Office in ALLEN, TX and just pushed 1, 2, 3 options to speak with a person. 1st one hung up, 2nd pushed me off to another and the 3rd told me (no reason to lie) that EXPERIAN does not and will not verify in Writing. They only Verify with SOCIAL SECURITY # and that is it. This was today at 4:45 Pm 9-10-21. The man STATED EXPERIAN is it own COMPANY and that if I continued to Dispute this Company I would be BLOCKED.

Thank you Experian!! Your Verification Process is letting countless collectors DEBT PARK on CONSUMERS. Mid West Recovery was caught for acts of "Debt Parking" for collecting over 24 million from consumers, by the FTC a 1.6 million dollar fine in November 2020. Experian this is quite like what you are doing. Consumers are paying hard earned money for a service that by the whole is not Lawful or accurate information ending in a result of HARM, LOSS of INTEGRITY, STRESS, MENTAL DURESS, LOSS OF NEW BEGINNINGS and HOLDING LIVES HOSTAGE making some give in eventually and just pay what is said to be owed (DEBT PARKING). All over an incorrect validation of fact.

NOT HARD. JUST LAZY and ETHICALLY WRONG. I am reading Below this. Stating Your review may not be published if it has profanity, threats or personal insults. I hope that this review is published. My writing has TRUTH AND COMMITMENT. I do not see the HONOR in allowing others to steal or be preyed upon or someone needing correct validation with your company EXPERIAN that literally have no control. I spoke to Cynthia from the disputes department where I was treated like a common criminal for wanting to dispute an Item. Cynthia refused to give me accurate information about my credit file and argued that she was unwilling to dispute or challenge the information being reported because my name was spelled wrong for years and it was too complicated and confusing. Cynthia implied that the derogatory information in my file must be correct because I have an African name.

Cynthia immediately said that because I had my name misspelled in the past, I must be the owner of an account that does not reflect the correct spelling of my name, address or middle initial, as if anyone who stumbled across a lost ID couldn't use or open an account in someone's name. It is really sad that people like this approach their jobs with the same prejudiced, racist views that she would in her personal life, especially when her job places her in a position to ruin people's lives with their own personal biases. Ms. Cynthia behaved like a cold blooded racist, she was rude, condescending and judgmental, the entire conversation, which confirmed the reason why I and so many other ** people have the hardest fight to remove or rid themselves the negative, derogatory information found therein.

The phone lines don't allow you to ever get to a person and they only give 2 Option. Get a credit report or fraud alert. I'm simply trying to file a dispute for an account that was already paid, but they keep saying dispute failed. No one can help me or tell me why.

It will also do a dark web search to see if your details come up in any questionable sites. It will also send emails when your score changes, even by a point. Overall, a great way to see how your credit score changes over time. Only minus is that if need to update any of your details online, the process takes time and it might not yield any results. Better to do it the old-fashioned way, by calling.

They also have me listed as living at a couple of addresses I've never lived at, and at the same time as showing me living at the correct address. I tried to contact them to have these items either removed, or updated to the correct information, but to no avail. When you sign up for Experian they state themselves to be a “completely free” credit service. You’re given many neat and helpful features to explore. For the first two weeks this service is amazing, until you get a $30 bill you didn’t approve and now have to go about disputing. When you sign up, without providing you the choice, you are automatically enrolled in their premium account. They wait two weeks to bill you so they can just take the information you’ve provided for your credit monitoring and be able to bill you without your knowledge, or you even entering your card details. Turns out this “super neat and helpful” service is only available if you’re willing to pay $30 a month, the free version is to say the least, a bare minimum, which you could just get from Credit Karma instead, they’re actually completely free.

You are only able to even switch to this version by locating your account details and manually changing them. There is no way to cancel or delete once they’ve got you, so don’t think you can keep them out of your business ever again! For a service that advertises itself as completely free and existing to help people, they have proven to be nothing but money hungry frauds who will do anything to scam you out of your hard earned paycheck. Do not sign up. It’s not worth it. Stick with Credit Karma!

The actual services, like IdentityWorks are awesome and I think they work great. The 1 star review is to hopefully get Experian's attention that they need to change their customer service processes. I've had a problem with my IdentityWorks account for a month now, and it's still not resolved. The issue is, you cannot call them. Their 800 number is a joke. A computer answers and demands your SSN before continuing, and refuses to let you bypass the question. Once you give up and give them your SSN, the system gives you two options. If neither of those are your problem, it hangs up on you. If you choose one of the options, one tells you to go to the website, and then hangs up on you, the other gives you two new options, both of which tell you to go to the website and then hang up on you. Getting upset and hitting 0 over and over causes the system to hang up on you.

Whoever you are at Experian who's in charge of customer service, little tip, hanging up on customers will never make them feel like you successfully resolved their issue. If you Google 'contact experian' the web is FULL of different web page purporting to get you to a person, but none of them work, sadly. You know you have a customer service issue if the web is full of websites offering advice on how to actually get to a human at your company.

Also, there is a chat option, but only if pay for the IdentityWorks service (and others, I'm sure). Chat will actually get you to someone but once I finally got through on chat, which kept going offline due to "high chat volume" the person I chatted with had to submit a support ticket. I said, "And how will you contact me to tell me this is resolved?" And the reply was, "IF you're contacted, it may be by phone or email." "Really, you aren't sure they will contact me to tell me the issue, that you verified, has been resolved?" She said no, she couldn't guarantee that. I said, "How do I find out the status?" She said, "Chat back here and check on it in a few days." Perfect.

Specifically, I updated my name change to all lenders through their online systems, and my credit history with Transunion and Equifax both have my correct credit history of 7+ years, 25 active opening accounts out of 28, and name updated. Compared to my credit report with Experian, it only reflects my credit history after my name changed with total of 3 opening accounts and 2-year length in credit.

Instead of offering a solution to correct customer’s credit history, the operator suggests me to call 25 lenders to request them notify Experian to update customer’s information, according to their company’s policy. Not mentioning the fact that Transunion and Equifax both have my information corrected, Experian should at least be able to retrieve my credit history under my previous name and bring all of them over when they updated my name. To this date, I have had no issues with Transunion and Equifax, but nothing but ANGUISH with Experian. For starters, the state I live in requires that security freezes must expire after a seven year period. For whatever reason, 10 years later, there is still a credit freeze on my account, and I am presently left without a viable option to remove the freeze. (Strike ONE) For starters, the Experian website is worthless. It is basically nothing but a marketing tool to sell you additional products and services. There is an option to remove the freeze online, but I have been unsuccessful following multiple attempts. There are no options to email or contact chat/live support. (Strike TWO)

Calling the phone number listed (1-888-397-3742) is an absolute HORRORSHOW. First off, 80% of the time you will end up disconnected, with no warning or apparent reason, so be prepared for that. Second, you can’t get past the directory to speak with a live person. I’ve tried. Multiple times. It’s impossible. You LITERALLY have to give your SSN out first thing, to be even considered to move onto next steps. Assuming you do give out your SSN, now you’re entered into a hall of mirrors re-direct structure, where the menu options actually lead you in an infinite loop of irresolution. (STRIKE THREE)

So, I guess my last and final option is to WRITE AND MAIL AN ACTUAL PAPER LETTER to this dumpster fire, slipshod company. Because apparently it’s 1752, not 2020, and means of electrically communicating sans physical media haven’t yet been invented. Seriously, get your excrement together, Experian. Recently, my credit score dropped by 25 points, from one month to the next (812 to 787) because I paid down a $68 charge on my credit card - reducing my outstanding to $0.00. Because I had no outstandings, Experian said I was not exercising good credit management. That is ridiculous! I have a mediocre credit score because I do not have any debt and own my house without a mortgage. That is crazy!!! The credit agencies should be investigated.

So I waited online for over 1 hour to then speak to a person who didn't know what she was doing. She also could not get the account to activate. Her solution? Call back and try again tomorrow! In other words, call back and waste another hour of your time tomorrow and try with another agent. What a waste of time and energy. I guess if they cannot figure out how to activate my account there would be little hope of them ever being able to save my identity.

Updated on 7/21/2020: This further review of Experian accompanies my earlier rating. After posting my review yesterday, despite repeated attempts to contact them, I contacted my bank manager for my SunTrust Bank, an Experian affiliate, and the sponsor of the credit card Experian has fraudulently charged. The bank manager was able to contact Experian after several tries, And verified that I was NOT a member of Experian. A fraud investigation was therefore opened with SunTrust Bank. After getting off the lengthy phone calls, I decided to check my Credit card statements. Well, it seems Experian has been billing my credit card for months, Sometimes three times a month for the same amount, $21.95. So, Watch your credit card statements, and be prepared for long telephone times to deal with this scam.

Original review: Experian is crooked. First, if you use their website once with that understanding, they will bill you monthly, and say you did it. When you try to contact Experian about it, you will find it frustrating and impossible. Then, when you dispute the charges on your SunTrust credit card, they will “say” they are legitimate. If you are a member of Experian, and try to cancel, it probably will not happen. On their website, you will be solicited to use their services to enhance your score. All bull.

I abhor dishonesty. These days, it is a rare quality. I hope you aren't a victim of this scam. It is basically the revolving charge scam. A small monthly bill comes on your credit card, then continues to be billed. You overlook it because you recognize the biller and the amount is insignificant. But consider how much is made monthly by hundreds of thousands of take it for granted billings by major companies. How did I recognize this one? I had zero balance on the credit card, and I got billed three identical monthly billings from Experian, on one day.

I did not change my plan from the free plan to a paid plan, yet that’s what I was just charged for. There was no indication that they would be upgrading me without my permission. I was not, and still not, receiving any product or service to allow a charge of $24.99. They just upgraded me on their own with no notice. Even though they are always VERY VERY shady about trying to make me click an upgrade button, I NEVER fall for it.

They always try and hide the “don’t upgrade” button all the way at the bottom and so small it’s hard to see, but I have never fell for their tricks, and I’ve had the free membership for way over a year. They should not be able to get away with taking your money and refusing to give it back being that they are one of the major credit reporting agencies. But they are. They didn’t take my word for it but instead said the reporting collections company information was verified as correct. The collections agency was notified by my attorney. They are not helping my credit score.

My Experian score is 100 points+ below TransUnion and Equifax because they say I have high credit utilization when I have zero balances. Experian is a racket not a credit reporting agency.

Such as, when logging-in for the "free services" and finding yourself trapped on an ad page wanting your credit card information for additional paid services. It seems like this was done intentionally to capture more paid service memberships. Very shady business practice for someone handling my credit information, if that is the case. Extremely frustrating to say the least.

It never changes, even though they contact me regularly to tell me that my score has been updated. They are trying to sell updated services for a fee and I suspect that if I were foolish enough take this option, my score would miraculously shoot up. The right scores appear to be on Credit Karma and Credit Sesame, so I would suggest that Experian be boycotted in favor of the other two alternatives.

This review is intended as a notice to consumers that your financial/credit history may be at risk due to improper actions on the part of Experian and other credit bureaus. In a nutshell, Experian is violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Experian is promoting identity theft, and in my case, Experian is jeopardizing a senior citizen's financial well-being. It is highly likely Experian is playing loosely with your credit file as well.

I froze my credit account for security reasons. Experian continues to release my credit history as "soft inquiries". According to Credit.com “A soft credit inquiry gives the same information that a hard credit inquiry does, including your payment and credit history, debt management, any derogatory marks you may have and your credit score.” That means Experian is not honoring the security freeze on my account.

Experian states “Soft inquiries are usually initiated by others, like companies making promotional offers of credit or your lender conducting periodic reviews of your existing credit accounts.” Experian honoring "soft inquiries" by companies wanting to make "promotional offers" is an action not permitted by the FCRA. The Federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) states "Only a limited number of entities can see your file while a freeze is in place, including: Creditors of accounts you currently hold, Certain government entities like child support agencies, Companies that you've hired to monitor your credit file.”

The CFPB also states “A security freeze prevents prospective creditors from accessing your credit file.” I assume that a company making a "promotional offer" is highly likely to be a "prospective creditor". That means Experian is not honoring the credit freeze on my account and is willing to sell my information to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that requests the information. Experian is violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Experian does not want you or me to contact them. Experian is almost impossible to reach. I tried 3 telephone numbers. All three numbers hooked me up with a robotic answering system where I had to "talk" to a computer instead of a live person. Experian also does not offer an email address. Experian also does not respond to questions on Facebook. The only option remaining is to write to the company but they may take forever to respond or they may not respond at all, which is more likely.

Experian is one of the worst companies I have had the displeasure to work with. They appear to be violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act and even worse, they are actively promoting identity theft by continuing to release information in a frozen account. I urge you to get a copy of your credit report to make sure your credit history is safe. If you don't like the way Experian or the other credit bureaus are treating your credit history you can file a complaint with the CFPB and likely with the consumer protection unit in your state. Don't procrastinate, do it now.

I recently decided to place a freeze on my credit with the three top reporting agencies: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. Equifax and TransUnion were very easy processes and I could perform online within minutes. Experian has a form and after having filled it out properly with all the same information entered for the other reporting agencies, I was denied a freeze on my credit and instructed to send the request in writing with several items of proof.

I called their phone # to just get it done over the phone and once you get through the lengthy phone tree, you are directed to send the request in writing with the documentation. I then signed into my Experian account since that way I'm an authenticated user and there is no option for placing a freeze. I do however see they have a service called a credit lock for a fee and I truly believe this difficult process to put a freeze on credit is "by design" so customers will purchase their lock option which I'm sure will be activated immediately and not require mailed in documentation. - Very very very poor customer experience!!!!

On Saturday, February 1, 2020 I received an email from Experian "informing" me that my FICO credit score had suddenly gone down by 25 points - from 844 to 819. I looked at every indicator on their website and there was no explanation for the decrease. In fact, every indicator listed there: my credit card, auto loan, mortgage and delinquency histories all showed as "Exceptional". When I tried the "Contact Us" numbers shown on the Experian website, every one of them took me to an automated response unit - I was unable to get to a human being via the Experian website.

I then Googled "How to get to a human being at Experian" and it gave me a North Carolina telephone number. I called that number and was transferred by the operator to a customer service representative who subsequently transferred me to her supervisor. Both these representatives are based in Costa Rica, not the USA. Neither would divulge to me why my credit score had gone down, and instead offered me a "free" way to increase my score via Experian's new "Boost" product, which requires you to submit your bank account and routing numbers in order to potentially achieve a credit score increase.

Being unwilling to divulge my bank account information to the Experian website, I was told that there was nothing they could do to help me and suggested that I find a credit advisor.Experian is a for-profit company that has quite obviously adopted disingenuous, predatory and unethical practices to alarm their clients in order to extract more money for additional membership services. I will no longer be a member of Experian and advise extreme caution when dealing with this Ireland-based corporation.

Someone tried to open a credit card accounts using my social security # in March 2018 and October 2018 with Chase Bank. I didn’t find out about both attempts until getting a credit alert in Oct. 2018 after signings up summer 2018. Upon contacting Chase, they agreed these were fraudulent attempts as the individual was not able to pass the credit identity verification questionnaire to move forward with the credit application. Chase requested that the inquires be masked from my credit report by Experian but when I check in late Nov 2019, the inquires were still there. I contacted Chase again.

This time Chase sent me a letter (dated Dec 22, 2019) that states they again requested those two inquiries be masked from my report yet as of today Jan 28, 2020, they are still on my credit report. Sure, one inquiry will soon fall off in March and the other this October, and hard inquiries don’t weigh heavily regarding credit applications, but that’s not the point. They are fraudulent inquires! What if it was a more serious credit error or if the culprit had actually opened the credit card? Would I still have to deal with such incompetence by Experian to resolve more serious disputes?

Honestly, these inquires never should have been reported by Chase Bank given they couldn’t get pass the credit questionnaire to verify identity, but that’s another story/issue all together. Anyway, I’ve tried to reach out to Experian but all three toll-free numbers just send callers into a loop with no real option to speak to anyone before hanging up. I’ll be filing a complaint with the BBB and Consumer Affairs until Experian removes these fraudulent inquiries!

I am not a consumer that would automatically file a complaint or write a bad review unless I have really experienced a difficult time. I would like to recommend that Experian should modify or revise their automated phone prompts. I was simply making an attempt to inquire why a freeze was on my account. After going back and forth because to be sure I did not hit the wrong # for what I was inquiring about, I was only given 2 options. #1. If you have a security or fraudulent question press #1, Press #2 if you have a question about a freeze on your account. I hit #2 and what happened, the system automatically froze my account, it didn't give me any options to ask if I had a freeze, if I wanted to unfreeze my account or if there was a freeze, it automatically froze my account.

Now I have a freeze on my account that Experian placed on there automatically, then the automated service say if you want to make adjustment to your credit because of a freeze you can do it with your pin number. Just go to the website. Wait a minute. I don't have a pin, if you can't remember your pin, you have to wait 10 days for a pin to come in the mail. This is a total disservice to have prompts put the automatic service freeze your account without you asking just by pressing a number that is suppose to give you options. So this is to anyone calling concerning a freeze please do not hit the #2 because your account will automatically become frozen, instead of dialing the listed number for Experian, please locate the number to speak with a live operator. There is a difference. After speaking with a live operator, that will confirm that you now have to wait for 10 days to get a pin #. Not due to my mistake but an error from Experian.

When I log on to the website to check, there is no sign of the impending doom but instead I am constantly being tricked into signing up for this or that. The very first page that comes up has a button to start "free" trial for Identity Theft Protection that is really $19.99 month. Then it is difficult to get past it; do I scroll up, down, click on something else. Where are my scores? No, scrolling down is not the answer. Oh, I have to click on "Reports and Scores" on the banner. So, I click on that. Oh, it's ANOTHER offer I have to navigate! The offer is for some type of plan. On all these pages, the default button that is highlighted (which I'm sure many choose by accident) is for CHOOSING the offer. No scores. I scroll down, again. Well, I already signed into the Experian website, so why do I have to input more information?

Something's not right, I DO NOT input information and, again, look for my credit scores. I scroll down. Nothing. Back up. Just the same form so, I have to click the computer's back arrow. I'm bombarded with offers for credit cards, auto financing, articles written by Experian writers. OMG! This site is NOT about giving you credit scores.
